A laboratory scientist has been arrested on allegations of selling COVID-19 test kits believed to have been stolen from Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.

30-year-old Kurai Charo was not asked to plead to allegations of theft when he appeared before Harare magistrate Judith Taruvinga.

Magistrate Taruvinga remanded Charo out of custody to December 10 on $5 000 bail.

Prosecuting, Lancelot Mutsokoti said on 11 November at Fife Avenue in Harare, police received information that Charo was selling COVID-19 test kits.

Police trapped Charo by posing as potential buyers. They arrested him after he tried to sell six boxes containing 10 test kits each to them.

Charo reportedly told the police that he had got the tests kit from a yet to be identified source.

The kits were positively identified as those stolen from Parirenyatwa on 5 November.
