ARVs Shelf Life Extended

THE Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe has extended the shelf life of selected ARVs after conducting research that show that the drugs are still effective.

The move put to rest fears by some patients who had complained that some health facilities were now dispensing expired ARVs. In an e-mailed response to
Sunday News, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Child Care Dr Gerald Gwinji said the life span of the selected drugs has been extended to July.

“The Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) extended the shelf life of selected batches of Tenofovir/lamivudine 300/300mg to June and July 2019 after conducting the necessary tests.

The MCAZ processes include laboratory testing using internationally recognised protocols. The ministry has approved the distribution of the extended Tenofovir/lamivudine 300/300mg,” he said.

Dr Gwinji said all health facilities in the country that have stock and patients on the drugs should continue to dispense the ARVs until the end of the shelf life.State media

Sadomba “Sees Red” As Dembare Lose

The Glamour Boys lost the match 2-0 at Barbourfields Stadium on Saturday afternoon, and a lifeless first half saw the Harare giants conceding both goals before the break.

The hosts set the pace in the early moments of the game and were awarded a penalty in the eleventh minute which was converted by in-form striker Clive Augusto. Innocent Muchaneka followed up on minute 18 with an effort which could have doubled the advantage, but it went straight to hit the woodwork.

Nonetheless, the Gamecocks got their second goal three minutes later through Malvin Gaki who was fantastic throughout the match.

Augusto came back again, searching to complete his brace, but his effort was cleared off the line by Tatenda Muringai moments after half hour
.
Dynamos made a change towards the break, introducing Godfrey Mukambi for Jarison Selemani with a hope of turning around the fate but were dealt another blow in the 42nd minute when Sadomba received his second booking.
The expulsion triggered some crowd trouble from the Dembare stand and the play was temporarily stopped.

The restart to the second period was also affected. Dembare, however, managed to improve but failed to bury home at least an effort inside the regulation time.
The match ended 2-0 in favour of Chicken Inn who are still to lose a game this season.

At Rufaro Stadium, Mark Harrison’s gamble to field junior players paid off when his Harare City got the first win of the campaign at the expense of Highlanders.
The Sunshine Boys came from behind and beat a 10-man Bosso side 3-1.

Prince Dube opened the scoring in the 26th minute to put the visitors ahead. City responded just before the half-hour through Munyaradzi Diro-Nyenye who finished off Milton Ncube’s free-kick from the edge of the box.

Walter Mukanga then completed the turn-around on minute 32 before Tatenda Tumba hit the target early in the second half. Mukanga could have gotten his second goal of the day in the 76th minute but was denied from the spot by Highlanders goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda.
Defender McClive Phiri did not finish the game as he received a red card in the incident that led to a penalty.

The encounter between TelOne and ZPC Kariba ended in a 1-0 result in favour of Kauya Katuru-turu.

Sulu Chides Sekuru Ndunge Followers

DENDERA crooner Suluman “Sulu” Chimbetu has fired a salvo at the late well known traditional healer, Charles Makhuyana Ndunge’s followers.

Sulu has penned a song that apparently is sending shivers down the spines of the deceased clients. Sekuru Ndunge as he was fondly referred to by his family and customers succumbed to diabetes and was laid to rest at his homestead in Chipinge. He was 87.

The revered traditionalist gained popularity after serving tens of thousands of people of different races and background from across the globe. His trade spanned close to seven decades.
Among the people assisted by Sekuru Ndunge were musicians, politicians, businesspeople, dealers, clergymen and fellow traditional healers. But clients of the late traditional healer are currently jostling to repay outstanding debts, return lucky charms and all sorts of gear they received.

This follows reports that a member of an apostolic sect from the region said the late sangoma approached their church a month before passing on. Sekuru Ndunge, according to the apostolic man, was “seeking assistance and demanding that all those who still have his paraphernalia surrender them”.

Enter Sulu. He is not making it any easy for those caught in the aforementioned predicament. His latest composition urges beneficiaries of the traditional healer’s “wizardry” to “return lucky charms”.
Apparently there is high belief that some successful musicians in the local music industry use juju. And that some of them (names withheld) benefited from Sekuru Ndunge’s charms.

A verse from Sulu’s song goes: “Akatora chinhu kwaNdunge ngadzosere, chingave chaunga chero chikwambo enda unosiya ikoko, ndunge akaenda dzorera, chero tsono dzorera, zvinozokunetsa mangwana, ndunge akafa, zvakatopera.” (Who ever took anything from Ndunge should return, the man is no more and it will give you problems.)State media

Mnangagwa Speaks On His Humiliation By Grace Mugabe

Farai Dziva|Emmerson Mnangagwa says he does not have a score to settle against the former First Family because of the humiliation he was subjected to- by Grace Mugabe.

With regards to his humiliation by the First Lady prior to Operation Restore Legacy, Mnangagwa said the events are behind him.

He said at that time he remained unfazed in the face of the public attacks because he knew that the allegations levelled against him were false.

“Meanwhile there is the new Republic, we are seized with the challenges of the country and we are moving forward. What is behind us is behind us.
““To some extent I enjoyed the lies, here was the person attacking you on issues that are false and you cannot get angry when you know that if you can be given a chance to speak, you can destroy every single allegation that is being made, so you can’t get angry because the premises of attack were all false and crafted by individuals who wanted to cause me to be removed.
“ Perhaps I was standing in the way of some ambitious colleagues in the system. So I actually enjoyed the lies. This is why they probably didn’t give me the opportunity to respond in public because they knew they were lying.

“He was our leader, the revolutionary leader during the armed struggle and led to the creation of Independence in Zimbabwe.

“With that regard, I think history should put his name in its proper place.
“We in the Second Republic, recognise that he was our former commander and that cannot be taken away from him.”

President Mnangagwa said he regularly checks on Mr Mugabe adding that the former President was currently receiving treatment in Singapore.

“We have established a communication method… We can talk on telephone between me and him on a regular basis.
“He has not been feeling well. At the age of 95, I think he is reasonably in good health. Currently he is not in the country. He left on the 2nd of April to Singapore, he will be way for about 29 days and he will come back.

“I am making sure that I do the facilitation for him to receive treatment, take him to Singapore and to bring him back, all the facilities, I make sure that it is done.”State media

Govt Says It’s Begun Compensating All 1 Aug Victims Except Nelson Chamisa

VIDEO LOADING BELOW…

The Emmerson Mnangagwa led government has announced it has begun compensating victims of the 1 August 2018 elections military violence, except MDC President Nelson Chamisa of whom the military decided to kill civilians in order to change 2018 election results – the brutal deployment filmed on the state broadcaster, ZBC in Mnangagwa’s presence.

All the events leading to the military
violence on the 1st of August 2018 were broadcast on LIVE ZBC camera; it was clearly announced by Mnangagwa’s most senior office worker, his special advisor that the military would-be used to change election results so that they match an outcome that is greater than the one ZANU PF won the elections in 1980. (See video).

The government announcement conspicuously avoids Nelson Chamisa the key victim of the massacre.

The state announcement in their media broadsheet carried the following title: “Compensation for August 1 victims commences,” at a time when none of this was taking place.

The report however promised that those  who will receive compensation include direct dependents of those killed and the injured whose medical expenses will be covered. This is based on the Motlanthe commission report.

Since the 15th December 2017, soldiers had clear standing military orders to use their military firepower to create and sustain a Presidency for Mnangagwa using LIVE ammunition. There is a
LIVE broadcast video of Mnangagwa’s most senior office worker speaking in Mnangagwa’s presence, (special advisor), Christopher Mutsvangwa, announcing at the ZANU PF national conference the intention to commit acts of military level terror. (LIVE video 15 Dec 2017.) In this video, a threat was sounded to the public that the Zimbabwe Defense Forces would the following year, use their military powers to “mobilize” to ensure Emmerson Mnangagwa returns to state house after the elections with a margin greater than the 1980 poll outcome, which saw
ZANU-PF “win” by a landslide “Comrade President, we are pledging to you our support for the 2018 election. That election, you shall win on a magnitude bigger than the one which we did in
1980, we are going to work hard with our chiefs. We are going to work hard with our illustrious ZDF (the Zimbabwe Defense Forces), the best army in the world, and we want to salute our
general Chiwenga who leads the most professional army in the world…” he said.

Meanwhile the Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs permanent secretary Virginia Mabhiza told the Sunday Mail:

“we have dealt with the issue at the working party level, which I co-chair together with Foreign Affairs, and what we have done is that we have made recommendations to the Ministerial taskforce requesting a budget that should be provided through the Department of Social Welfare to compensate the victims of the August 1 post-election violence.

In terms of implementation, that will largely depend on the availability of funds, so the Department of Social Welfare, who we have brought on board the taskforce, will look into issue of facilitating the compensation.

The quantum of the compensation will have to be assessed by the Ministry of Finance, sitting together with the Department of Social Welfare – those are the people who are supposed to quantify and cause Cabinet to approve.”

ED Govt Bans Expelling Of Pregnant School Girls

School girls who fall pregnant while at school must not be expelled but be allowed to continue with their studies if they wish to proceed as provided for by Statutory Instruments 362 and 363 of 1998, an official has said.

Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Matabeleland South Legal Services and Discipline officer Mrs Sihle Nkala told delegates who attended a Masakhaneni Projects Trust conference in Bulawayo last week that heads and school authorities were not empowered to dismiss pregnant pupils. Mrs Nkala said all schools and their heads that expel female learners after they fall pregnant were violating the policy which is entailed in document P35 of the Ministry.

“Our policy is that all children should go to school. This is provided for by the Constitution which says every citizen has a right to education and as such pregnant school girls are also children and citizens. The policy says the head, after finding out, should contact the parents of the girl first and summon them to the school. After informing the parents and determining whether the pregnancy was a result of mutually consented sex or rape, the parents should make a decision whether the girl remains in school or drops out,” said Mrs Nkala.

She said if the parents are willing that their child continue learning, schools should provide support systems as set out by the Ministry’s policy. The support systems include guidance and counselling as well as constant monitoring. She, however, said the policy was not applicable to boys who must be expelled from school if they impregnate a female learner.

Mrs Nkala said a boy who impregnate another learner must be expelled and wait for a year before readmitted at another school.

The ministry, she added, introduced non-formal education in 2015 to cater for 1,2 million school drop outs who fell by the sideway due to different reasons. She said the programme allowed drop outs to further their academic education or acquire vocational training. Masakhaneni Trust has been working with schools and the ministry to try and help girls who would have dropped out of school to return to the class. Sunday News

Dembo’s Life NostaHit

How?”

That was the only question that came to Bulawayo jazz musician Hudson Simbarashe’s mind when he first saw Leonard Dembo on television after the release of one of his early hits, Venezia.

Simbarashe could not believe how the young man who used to live just three houses from him in the high density suburb of Sizinda, had suddenly managed to get on national TV, which at the time was a near impossible task for young musicians.

“I remember one of the first songs that he did was a song called Venezia. There I was, sitting at home and all of a sudden I saw Lenny on TV. Those were the early 80s and being on TV was a big deal. It was unlike today where anyone with a camera can suddenly be on TV,” Simbarashe told Sunday Life last week, a week that marked the 23rd anniversary of Dembo’s passing.

Over two decades since the sungura ace passed away, Dembo is fondly remembered and rightfully regarded as music royalty in Zimbabwe. His compositions have comfortably outlived the man who made them. His superior writing, complemented by the craftsmanship of his Barura Express, made him a genre defining artiste. Practice makes perfect, the adage goes, and Dembo’s mastery of both the pen and instrumentals must have required hours of tireless practice and refinement. This is where Simbarashe comes in. It all began in Sizinda when Simbarashe was a 15-year-old musician taking baby steps in a career that, in a short while, would eventually lead him to the doorstep of Dembo, then living with his grandmother and two brothers.

“I think when I was first playing the guitar it was back in 1975 and this was after we had gone to see a South African group called The Flames at a local bar. Later on Marks Mankwane and the Mahotella Queens would also come. Due to the fact that we were young, we were not allowed to see them at the bars where they were playing.

“During those times bars were very strict with their policies and wouldn’t allow minors anywhere their doors. If you were under 18 you just could not get in. Fortunately they came to Sizinda, the platform that they were using was a bit higher up and we could see them tuning their guitars. I don’t know but he managed to come and greet us. That was Marks Mankwane yet at the time I didn’t know who he was. When he greeted us I felt something and from that moment I was just inspired,” he said.

Simbarashe would then team up with fellow young musicians to form Montana Ray, a group that played the blues, jazz and rock. The band comprised of Simbarashe, George Phahlane, Davidson Chipembere and two other musicians he recalls only as Silver and Joseph.

“I wouldn’t say the group was successful because we weren’t getting paid but I remember we would play in places like Bambi Lodge when I was just 15 and this sparked a lot of debate at home because my father didn’t want to hear about music. I had started as a vocalist but I learnt to play the guitar with time so we started playing at Hlanganani Cocktail Bar in Tshabalala.

“Because I was never satisfied with what we could have been doing as Montana Ray, I would go back to Hlanganani to listen to other musicians. That’s when I found out that some people who went there craved an African sound. As Montana Ray we were mainly playing the blues, jazz, rock and other American styles. So I was wondering how I could cater to those people that didn’t want those American sounds. That is when I met Leonard Dembo,” he said.

In Dembo, Simbarashe had met a man who was in search of his own identity in music and together they would try to find a sound that could blend Montana Ray’s staple of jazz, blues and rock with local languages that seemed initially at odds with those alien genres.

“He was also, like me, still a teenager back then. He was already a very good writer of Shona lyrics at that age. So what we would do was that we would go and connect our instruments and we would play blues, jazz and rock songs. As we were playing, Leonard would sit down and come up with a Shona version of whatever we had been playing and people would love that.

“Then at the same venue we discovered a guy called Legion and he would play music that sounded like mbaqanga. So we would end up playing a Shona, English and Ndebele song all at once. So we formed one group. Later on we were joined by Jonah Mutuma. He was from Mpopoma but he would come all the way to Sizinda and he took over the vocals because he was a rock singer. It was a full band made of many different genres. There was no pay and we did it for the passion,” he said.

For Simbarashe and Dembo, teenagers in culturally vibrant Sizinda, music became a way of life and living three houses apart, both knew that it took only a shout to bring their partner in song running.

“With Leonard Dembo music was an everyday thing. When someone lives three houses from you, it means I could even shout his name from my house and he would respond. I would just shout Lenny! Lenny! Because that’s what we called him and he would say, let’s go. We would then just go and play music because at the time it was all purely about music. This happened until he got to Harare,” he said.

Eventually, Simbarashe’s father, who had been against his son’s chosen career path, was to get his way and he managed to pry his son away from the stage and onto the warehouses of Bulawayo’s then thriving industries. He subsequently retired, thereby making his son the family’s sole breadwinner. The coup de grace was complete and Simbarashe’s desire to follow his friend was from then on out of the question. Although he had little love for work, he would later spend 23 years a locomotive driver at the National Railways of Zimbabwe. Dembo’s own career, and life, would take a different path.

“He got work (in Harare). So that’s how he left Bulawayo for the capital. He didn’t go there because of music initially. He went there because he had found work like me. The greatest thing I remember about him was how he was sincere. Even after he had made it in Harare, he still came back this side and try to beg me to come with him. But what stopped me from going with him was that I now had responsibilities at home. If it wasn’t for that I would’ve followed him to Harare,” he said.

Now regarded as one of Zimbabwe’s finest on the guitar, Simbarashe remembers those days in Sizinda with Dembo with fondness. Another day that also still stands out in his mind is 9 April, 1996.

“I remember the day he passed away. I was going to work so I took my bag and I walked towards the gate and my son came running to me. He said there’s something about Leonard Dembo on the news. When I got to the house that’s when I found out he was dead. I had a hard time at work that day.” Sunday News

CSC Boss Retired

CSC boss

One of the country’s longest serving bosses, at a State Enterprise and Parastatal, Cold Storage Company (CSC), chief executive officer Mr Ngoni Chinogaramombe will soon leave his post after having served the entity for a period of over a decade-and-a-half.

Mr Chinogaramombe has served the country’s internationally recognised sole meat processor and marketer for almost 34 years having joined it in 1984 and rose through the ranks to become its chief executive officer in 2005. A reliable source privy to the on-goings at CSC said Mr Chinogaramombe was offered a handsome severance package by the company’s newly found strategic investor, Boustead Beef Zimbabwe, which is expected to inject a massive US$400 million over the next five years towards breathing new life into the entity.

“Mr Chinogaramombe hasn’t resigned per se but the investors highlighted that they were bringing in their own chief executive officer and financial director, rightfully so because they want to ensure direct control of the investment. He has been mutually offered a handsome exit package by the investors, including taking care of his various needs at the moment. The investors said they will continue consulting him on various issues,” said the source.

CSC, at one time the largest meat processor in Africa, handled up to 150 000 tonnes of beef and associated by-products a year and exported beef to the European Union. However, during Mr Chinogaramombe’s reign the company’s fortunes were on a downward spiral.

The company has fallen on hard times since 2000 owing to a myriad of challenges, that include difficulties in raising adequate working capital, cattle disease outbreaks, decline in the commercial herd, huge foreign debt, high staff turnover and an aged transport fleet. CSC last exported beef in 2007 because of serious outbreaks of foot and mouth diseases. The European Union (EU) stopped importing beef from the country due to illegal sanctions imposed on the country.

Mr Chinogaramombe’s exit comes after the crafting of the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act last year, which stipulates that chief executive officers of State Enterprises and Parastatals to serve for a maximum of 10 years. According to the Public Entities Corporate Governance policy, the chief executives who are already serving will complete their 10-year terms.

Mr Chinogaramombe could not be reached for comment. CSC director of marketing Mr Isaiah Machingura declined to comment while Boustead Beef managing director Mr Nick Havercroft could not be reached for a comment by the time of going to Press.

The CSC board is chaired by Mrs Sylvia Khumalo-Jiyane and she is deputised by Mr Nemrod Chiminya who is a seasoned technical person and also assists on the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board.

The other board members are Mrs Emily Mumbengegwi, Mr Peter Nyoni, Mrs Cecilia Paradza, Mr Bekhithemba Nkomo, Dr Anxious Masuka, Mrs Rufaro Mazunze, Mr Khodholo Setaboli, Ministry of Agriculture representatives, Dr Unesu Ushewokunze Obatolu and Engineer Reston Muzamhindo. Sunday News

VIDEO: Abi Inside Zimbabwe But Why The Loud Secrecy?

VIDEO LOADING BELOW…

By Own Correspondent| In a major embarassing boob, an Australian journalist flew into Zimbabwe to film a money spinning documentary on baby parentage, all based on probative DNA suggestions.

The Australian journo, is well known for making money from creating fake drama and has been fired before following a “baby kidnap” scandal.

The latest development explains how and why there was a total media blackout against Zimbabwean journalists who for several months could broadcast Abigail Prangs’ own living room since 2018, but now at the point of meeting Abi’s “parents,” Australian journalists suddenly perform everything under the cover of darkness- They fly into Zimbabwe and even the national broadcaster, ZBC is not allowed near them. Why, and what is so secretive about a story publicly known in Harare since 1983? Why should foreigners be the ones to report on what they only read?

The man, Stephen Rice intended to make money out of the Abigail Prangs story, the Zimbabwean baby found dumped in 1983 documentary which StarFM and ZimEye have worked on since last year.

The development comes after Abigail had skipped vital stages of the DNA tests. She had even avoided the local Zimbabwean DNA centre fully equipped and which was still in the way to report back on their findings.

Global DNA’s Mr Tinashe Mugabe always insisted on further tests despite an initial sibling test (with an alleged sister, Lorraine Kamonere) yielding a passive 90,8% probability.

This was as Mr Mugabe said at this stage, the supposed parents, remained just alleged parents up until conclusive paternal and maternal tests had been conducted. As at the time when Stephen Rice and his filming crew were flying to Zimbabwe, there were none of these tests, the only one done being a mere half-sibling one.

There was a disturbing twist when Abigail rushed to declare she was now interested in a commercial contract offered for a money spinning documentary by Mr Rice. She reported to ZimEye that she had signed a contract with the disgraced Australian TV producer, Stephen Rice. Abigail even got to the point of ordering that all news articles produced since 1983 be deleted from thr public domain and a new story would be published by the Australian TV producer.

The sudden rush to distort evidence was to the point of even ditching the services of the local DNA centre. Correspondence seen by ZimEye.com shows Mr Rice ordering that Mr Mugabe’s services be terminated and a different DNA centre be utilised. In a program on Tuesday, Abi was questioned by ZimEye why she had suddenly disconnected with the Global DNA. She reported back by briefly saying, “I have a lot of respect for Tinashe,” still without revealing any reasons why.

The flight from Australia to Zimbabwe came in the face of serious concerns raised by Mr. Mugabe in an earlier StarFM program when while with Tilda Moyo, he revealed that there was no excitement at all on the supposed parent’s faces when they heard news that Abi is their daughter.

Mr Mugabe said “there was no excitement” which would be expected in such a breakthrough situation. More drama however, emerged when the supposed father was found suspiciously and repeatedly skipping away everytime when the Global DNA staff members descended onto their home. For several months since December last year, Global DNA thrice visited the home in Chitungwiza seeking to complete the investigation.

Now, the 90,8% probability was to suggest that there was a likeliwood of the 2 tested individuals sharing a common parent. It was a half sibling test. However without further tests the sibling one would-be insufficient.

Scientists call the 90,8% as seen in the graph, mere “probative evidence.” It is probative, not conclusive evidence.

By Own Correspondent- A top Bulawayo lawyer Mlweliwenkululeko Ncube (38) has been arrested for rape.

The lawyer allegedly raped his ex-girlfriend who broke up with him 6 years ago.

There was drama when the police stormed Tredgold Courts in Bulawayo Saturday morning where he was attending a maintenance court session and cuffed him.

The 35-year-old victim who cannot be named for ethical reasons allegedly told police Ncube forced himself on her on April 2 in his office.

Chitungwiza Hospital Nurses Protest Against Nepotism

By Own Correspondent- -Nurses and staff at Chitungwiza referral hospital today demonstrated at the hospital parking area accusing the institution’s principal nursing officer of nepotism.

The nurses, held placards and sang songs denouncing Miriam Mangeya, whom they alleged had turned the institution into her personal empire.

Zimbabwe Nurses Association chairperson Kingstone Mutinzwa, confirmed that the extraordinary measures which had been taken by the nurses were as a result of simmering frustrations to their unaddressed concerns.

”Nurses are no longer safe to air their views because of the relatives and friends planted by the principal nursing officer, who feed negative information to her,” said Mutinzwa.

Mtinzwa claimed that efforts to engage Mangeya where not fruitful as she threatened to fire them instead.

”VaMangeya vanobva vati panoti Chitungwiza ndopanoti ini chero ukaendepi ivondavanosara, This has led the nurses to say enough is enough and stage a demonstration for voices to be heard.”

The paper also heard that Mangeya’s maiden surname is Muchakazi and her ‘two surnames’ dominated the team that benefited from a funded cholera vaccination programme.

Some of the general hands are from her church. We urge the ministry to investigate, do head counting and carry job evaluation and assess how Mangeya is administering the health institution,” he said.

Mangeya is on record admitting that she had relatives employed by the hospital but said she never had a hand in selecting people who went for the Cholera vaccination programme.-StateMedia

Bride To Be Escapes Death By A Whisker

By Own Correspondent- The accident that occurred along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road yesterday around 5am destroyed most of the wedding preparation groceries and other items of a bride to be.

Sibusiso Ncube, from Nketa 9 suburb in Bulawayo, who is set to tie the knot on Independence Day said she should have been on the vehicle that was written off but instinct told her to ride in a different car.

The vehicle steered sharply off the road and plowed into trees before coming to an abrupt stop.

Four passengers were injured and were rushed to Esigodini General Hospital for treatment.

The bride escaped unhurt as she was traveling in a different vehicle in the same convoy. Ncube, the winner of the 2019 Wedding Expo, however, lost her goods that were in a trailer that was being pulled by a Toyota Hilux double cab

She said:

“It only must have been God. I do not know how it happened really, but I just thought to myself that I must not be in the Hilux but I should rather travel in a Toyota Quantum which was following behind.

Most of my stuff has been spoiled but I just thank God that he spared me injuries and gave me the premonition to travel in a different vehicle. I pray that the injured recover safely and soon.

Witnesses claim that the driver of the Toyota Hilux just lost control of the vehicle due to slippery roads.”-StateMedia

She said:

Man Murdered For Asking For S*x

TWO Harare men were hauled before the courts yesterday for allegedly murdering a man who asked for sex from their female accomplice during a beer drink.

Trymore White and Roy Kufahakurotyi appeared before magistrate Victoria Mashamba facing charges of fatally stabbing Thabiso Chatata at a night club in Kuwadzana.

Mashamba remanded them in custody and has advised them to apply for bail at the High Court.

Allegations are that on April 10, 2019 at about 0300 hours, both accused persons were in the company of two ladies named Hilda Fourth and Nyaradzo Resoro. Chatata reportedly approached Resoro soliciting for sexual favours.

The accused persons confronted him armed with a pool stick and assaulted the deceased twice before the doorman Tinashe Chabvuta intervened, the court heard. It is the State’s case that Chatata wrestled with Kufahakurotyi over the stick and during the commotion; White drew out a knife and charged towards the deceased.

White allegedly stabbed the Chatata three times at the back, thigh and left arm and he fell down before the accused persons fled.

Mnangagwa, Chamisa Govt Of Unity In 6 Months’ Time From Today, Report Says

By A Correspondent| As the International Criminal Court received a report on Zimbabwe yesterday, latest indications in the country were that Zimbabwe is set for a Government of National Unity (GNU) in the next six months.

This came after President Mnangagwa together with MDC leader Nelson Chamisa publicly declared intentions to meet.

Human Rights Director Dewa Mavhinga confirmed that he met a ZANU PF official who stated that a GNU was the only solution to the countries economic problems.

“I bumped into a senior ZanuPF official today (Friday) who said a Government of National Unity (GNU) is the only viable solution for Zimbabwe and that it might happen with 6 months.” Mavhinga said.

The development comes after the International Criminal Court on Friday received a full report on prosecutable crimes by Mnangagwa regime. ZimEye can exclusively reveal an evidence based report was submitted to the ICC on Friday afternoon. (More to follow on this).

There was however no direct comment from Chamisa or his spokesperson at the time of writing to state when could be.

The last time Zimbabwe had a GNU was from (2009-2013) where the former President of Zimbabwe Cde R.G Mugabe joined forces with the late Mr. Morgan Tsvangirai the former President of the then MDC-T.

The development also comes as there was speculation that a group with ZanuPf called ” Zezuru” intends to force Mnangagwa to resign in December and handover to Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.

Pleasant Matabeleland White Farming Family Gets Eviction Order From Farm

Out you go! Parsons family evicted from farm.

Own Correspondent|Popular and otherwise pleasant white Parsons family of Ntabazinduna in Umguza Matabeleland North just outside Bulawayo has received an order evicting them from their family farm of years.

The family which is so much adored by the local community because of their general good relations with the community has been living in the area since around 1940s.

News of the eviction of the family from the farm was broken on social media by Kevin David Parsons one of the sons of the late Peter Parsons a man whose name remains highly valued amongst the community in the area over twenty five years after his death.

“My sister and brother in law received a court order yesterday evicting them from our family farm, Ntabazinduna, Matabeleland with effect from Monday 15th April 2019,” said Kevin.

“This is fifteen years after losing our own farm, Sunnyside, Mashonaland. So very sad,” he added.

The news of the eviction of the family has not been well received by people from the area and Matabeleland region as a whole with radical members from Mthwakazi Restoration groups threatening to block the evictions.

In 2015 people from Matabeleland united and resisted government efforts to evict another popular white farmer Peter Cunningham from his Ebenezer Farm in Matobo district.

The community could not even listen to then Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko until Cunningham was retained to the farm.

Several members of the community were arrested including Mthwakazi Republic Party leaders for resisting the eviction.

Gvnt To Revise Tertiary Institutions’ Regulations

By Own Correspondent| Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development minister Professor Amon Murwira has announced government’s plans to revise regulations governing tertiary institutions for enhanced performance and development.

Murwira was presenting proposals for the Amendment of the Manpower and Development Act at the Bulawayo Polytechnic College recently.

He said:

The Ministry requires that all tertiary education institution employees be transferred from being Public Service Commission employees to state granted employees so that they are just like State University employees.

This, he argued, is essential for the purposes of ensuring compliance with international best practices in relation to academic freedom and academic integrity for industrialisation, modernisation, and attainment of Vision 2030.

The professor indicated that the transformation was aimed at government attraction and retention of best skills to facilitate the industrialisation and mordenisation of Zimbabwe.

He claimed that the Act also needed amendments on the Zimdef part so that it incorporates principles of good governance.

He also stated that the alignment of the Manpower Planning and Development Act was fundamental for skills development.

Sangoma Sodomises Patient As He Prescribes Anal S*x Cure For Erectile Dysfunction

What started as a casual visit to a sangoma for help turned out to be a nightmare at the hands of a l_usty p_ervert.

A 19-year-old man from Lupane’s Jibajiba area approached a well-known sangoma in the area because he had an e_rectile d_ysfunction.

The sangoma promised to deal with the issue because it was his specialty. The treatment came in the form of anal s_x. The sangoma would instruct the patient to touch his p_enis and in turn the sangoma would do the same to him. When the sangoma’s p_enis got erect all the time he would then sleep with his patient.

After every session the sangoma would reassure his patient that he was going to be alright and all the signs of improvement were there.

The patient could not keep the treatment a secret and he confided in his father who reported the matter to the police leading to the sangoma’s arrest. Appearing before Lupane resident magistrate Ndumo Masuku facing an aggravated indecent assault charge the sangoma pleaded not guilty.

The court heard that the sangoma allegedly had a_nal s_x three times with his victim on different occasions.

He was remanded in custody to next week on Tuesday for routine remand and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

Bring Those Egyptians Here, We Are Warriors!!!

Warriors in action against Congo recently

ZIMBABWE’S Warriors will open the 2019 Afcon finals with a showdown against Mohamed Salah and the Pharaohs of Egypt at the Cairo Stadium on June 21 in a repeat of the national team’s first match at the continent’s premier football showcase in Tunisia 15 years ago.

The Warriors were the first team to be picked at the draw, held against a spectacular background of the Pyramids, and were immediately thrust into Group A which is headlined by the hosts who will be staging the tournament for the first time in 13 years.

Sunday Chidzambwa and his troops will also have another duel against the DRC, who were in their qualifying group, and Uganda, in a tough Group A.

The Warriors took four points from the Congolese, beating them 2-1 in Kinshasa before the two teams battled to a 1-1 draw at the National Sports Stadium where Knox Mutizwa’s goal, which could have given the hosts a two-goal lead, was controversially disallowed by Egyptian match officials.

And, at the end of the qualifiers, the Warriors found themselves enjoying a two-point cushion, at the top of their group, having the luxury of knowing that even if they had donated the three points they won in Kinshasa to the DRC, they would still have made it to the Afcon finals.

The Warriors have played the Pharaohs at the Nations Cup before – the Egyptians were the first opponents Chidzambwa and his men faced in their first game at the Afcon finals in Tunisia in 2004 in a match the Pharaohs won 2-1.

That game will always be remembered for the glaring last-gasp miss by Wilfred Mugeyi, which would have handed the Warriors the draw their performance deserved, while the then skipper Peter Ndlovu scored Zimbabwe’s goal.

The Warriors have never played the DRC and Uganda at the Nations Cup finals.

Mustapha Hadji, one of the best players to come out of the continent who starred for Coventry City and Aston Villa in his career, was the star who picked the Warriors from the hat.

That meant Zimbabwe would have to play Egypt in the first game in Cairo, the first competitive duel between the two nations in that city since that ill-fated World Cup qualifier in 1993 which the Pharaohs won 2-1 only for Fifa to nullify the result and order a replay.

The two teams also met in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers in Alexandria and Egypt needed a controversial last-minute penalty, converted by Mohamed Aboutrika, for them to steal a 2-1 win after Knowledge Musona had scored for the Warriors.

Salah then scored a hattrick at the National Sports Stadium as Egypt raced to a 4-2 victory.

With the top two teams guaranteed of a place in the knockout rounds, and the four best third-placed sides also going through, the Warriors can fancy their chances because they can compete against the Pharaohs while they should do fine against the Congolese and Uganda.

The format could mean that one win, in the group games, might be enough for a team to go through to the knockout stages depending on results elsewhere.

“There is a country that we never mention and I think their potential is massive,’’ retired former South African footballer Stanton Fredericks, who was a pundit on SuperSport last night, said in reference to the Warriors.

“We have so many of their players playing in our local league and that’s Zimbabwe, very exciting brand of football, going forward.

“Zimbabwe cannot be discounted in this competition.’’

The Warriors have been impressive in recent years and were the only Southern African nation at the 2017 Afcon finals in Gabon.

“Gvnt Revenue Increases”; Report

By Own Correspondent| According to the Treasury Quarterly Bulletin (2018 Fourth Quarter) released on Wednesday, government revenues have increased.

A state media report attributes the rise in revenue collected to fiscal stabilisation measures as espoused in the national economic blueprint, the Transitional Stabilisation Programme (TSP).

The report indicates that revenues rose by 43,4 percent to US$1,69 billion, surpassing the set target of US$1,18 billion. Reads the report in part:

Read the report:

“This fourth quarter performance also represents a phenomenal 60 percent increase from the collections of US$1,06 billion recorded during the same period in 2017.

Similarly, fourth quarter revenues surpassed third quarter revenues of US$1,3 billion by 31,3 percent, reflecting high inflation impact, as well as the introduction of the Intermediated Money Transfer Tax (IMTT) in November.

The report also suggests that taxes were major contributors to revenue collections. It also divulges that expenditure in the fourth quarter was higher than the projected. Employment costs, interest on debt and operations, and maintenance were cited as major contributors to the sad trajectory.”-StateMedia

African Union Under Fire For Defending Dictatorships

The old African dictators who have since been thrown down and their remaining collegues

Own Correspondent|The African Union’s silence on the modern day slavery of Africans particularly in Arab nations like Kuwait and the ill treatment of Africans in the Middle East is a particular concern.

However the continental union which consisting of 55 member states located on the continent of Africa, has been seen to be very vocal with regards dictatorships and protection of tyrants such as Omar al-Bashir.
On Thursday the AU criticised the military ouster of Sudan’s veteran president Omar al-Bashir and called for calm and restraint.

“The military take-over is not the appropriate response to the challenges facing Sudan and the aspirations of its people,” said a statement from Moussa Faki, chairperson of the AU Commission.

Social media platforms have been abuzz with many Africans criticising the AU for only focusing on protecting the African political leaders while remaining silent with regards the suffering of thousands from Africa sold and used as modern day salves.

Khama Billiat Buys Watch Worth US$165000?

Warriors’ forward Khama Billiat who is known for having an eye for goal, seems to also have an eye for the finest things in life, such as a flashy Richard Mille Bubba Watson Ceramic wrist watch for a jaw-dropping USD165,000.

Well, you might not drop a jaw at all if you’re Khama Billiat and are worth an estimated R18 million, plus with a few more years strutting your stuff on the football pitch.

Khama is still 28, and still has got a few more years with the Warriors and his South African side Kaizer Chiefs.

After once breaking social media with flashy Dolce and Gabbana shoes during the team’s photo shoot, the Warriors and Kaizer Chiefs forward is back again with a USD 165,000 watch on his wrist.

Minister Blasts Land Barons, “They Are Criminals”

By Own Correspondent| The recently sworn in Minister of State of the Harare Metropolitan Province, Oliver Chidawu has described land barons as criminals who should be dealt with.

Chidawu, who is a former Harare mayor said this in an interview with the State Media.

He said:

“Land barons is a colloquial term for people who have stolen money from needy people who wanted housing and shelter over their heads.

These are just criminals, the point is what are we going to do with the criminals who have been roaming around cheating people? It is the duty of the local authority to provide housing to the people, it is a national duty for Government.

In my time as Harare Mayor, we used to do that in places like Warren Park and Kuwadzana. We serviced the land and properly gave people land. Unfortunately, as things deteriorated, we have ended up with greedy people.

A land baron would be a person who owns land and service it for sale, but these you are calling land barons are criminals.”

Its Six Out Six For Chamisa As Mwonzora, Mudzuri Bite Dust

Jane Mlambo| The race for MDC Presidency seems to be a done deal for incumbent Nelson Chamisa who has to date received six out six nominations from the provinces that have so far held provincial elections.

This has left Secretary General Douglas Mwonzora and Vice President Elias Mudzuri who according to party sources have only been mentioned but not seconded in the ongoing internal process.

Chamisa who took over the reigns following the death of Morgan Tsvangirai seems to be enjoying an edge on his counterparts who are looking for at least a single nomination to challenge their boss.

Yesterday, the party was in Chinhoyi Mashonaland West and the template remained the same, no Mwonzora, no Mudzuri.

Mwonzora has however a ray of hope after receiving a single nomination for the position of Secretary General and would be hoping if the Presidium chances fall off can bank on squaring off with Charlton Hwende who has five nominations.

Ouster Of Al Bashir, Sudan To Learn From Zim, Opinion

By Alex Magayisa|It must be an exciting time for the Sudanese and probably a confusing moment, too. A long-serving tyrant has just been deposed, something that looked impossible for long periods of his thirty years in office.

Like other autocrats before him, Omar al-Bashir had a carved up a near-permanent seat in power, accorded strong protection from the claws of international justice by his African peers. Like all tyrants, past and present, he lived up to Lord Acton’s dictum of absolute power corrupting absolutely.

It seemed like he would never go and some may have long resigned to him staying on for life. He must have believed it too, given the arrogance with which he carried himself in office. But everything changed when a few said enough was enough before more and more joined in their thousands.

Now he is gone and there is a huge sigh of relief and collective excitement.

But then, at the same time, the relief and excitement are promptly qualified by the immediate consequence of military rule. What began as a people’s movement against a dictatorial regime has become a military coup. Amid the multitudes, when all is said and done, it is really the military that has taken over the reins of power. The military is part of the establishment. They simply got disaffected under al-Bashir and decided that the costs of continuing to support him were greater than any benefits. They saw an opportunity and seized it, in the name of the people. They made a rational choice, in their own interests.

If you are an ordinary civilian, this presents a conflict. You are happy to see the tyrant gone but you are deeply uncomfortable with military rule. You know, of course, that in the not so distant past, the same soldiers could have brutally suppressed the protests, in aid of the tyrant. You were probably surprised by their newfound friendliness and support. They allowed you to march. They even defended you against some of their counterparts when you were attacked. They were the good guys. It was a strange and surreal coalition, an unlikely romance between the ordinary people and the armed forces.

You are not alone. As a Zimbabwean, it’s a profoundly familiar experience. For us, your cousins who are thousands of miles away in the south of the continent, it’s like a déjà vu moment, albeit indirectly through you. I have watched the events and while there are admittedly some vast differences, I was also struck by some of the uncanny similarities.

The love-in with a previously hostile military was one of the hallmarks of the process that preceded the removal of our former leader, Robert Mugabe in November 2017. Our own military tried to be more subtle, by presenting a façade that Robert Mugabe had left power voluntarily, but even that could not obfuscate the fact that it was a coup. Your generals have shown less interest in such subtleties. Not that it makes a big difference, no.

Like you with al-Bashir, we were tired of Mugabe’s lengthy rule. In power for 37 years, and with an economy in tatters and human rights violations, he had outlived both his welcome and purpose. Like Mugabe, al-Bashir’s departure will not be mourned by many around the world. Both had, for a variety of reasons, acquired a deep international notoriety.

When news of Mugabe’s “resignation” arrived on 21 November 2017, there was great euphoria in the streets of Harare and the rest of the country. Many Zimbabweans around the world joined in the celebrations. It was the end of an era, or so it seemed. I see that it is the same in Khartoum and elsewhere. Do savour the moment, but remember it’s only a moment.

Indeed, in our case, the soldiers were feted as heroes and saviours. Some of us were a little cautious over the military coup and the future role of soldiers in government. We argued that Mugabe was part of a system and that system had not changed. The military men who had taken over were an integral part of that system. The soldiers would not give up power now that they had usurped it, we warned. But such thoughts were notoriously unfashionable at the time. In that atmosphere of euphoria, the mood was hostile to any cautionary notes. Why rain on a people’s party?

It did not take long, though, before the true colours of the new rulers emerged. As they began to smell blood, senior officials of the establishment told stunned political opponents that “chinhu chedu” (it’s our thing) claiming exclusive title to the removal of Mugabe. Opposition politicians had also joined in the euphoria, claiming a stake in the removal of Mugabe, probably hoping for a shair of the spoils.

But even as some in the establishment chose to be bashful, others were coy, presenting a deceptively soft face. When a general appeared on state television on the morning of 15 November, he told the nation that it was not a coup; that the president was safe and that they were only targeting alleged “criminals around him”. They feigned benevolence.

They promised a New Dispensation but, in fact, the old order persisted, complete with the practices and rituals of authoritarian rule. There was a new president but the institutions of repression continued. In fact, the same characters who had propped up the old establishment had simply ascended to the top. Mugabe had gone but Mugabeism had remained intact. Al-Bashir may now be history too, but if our experience is anything to go by, you will have to ask whether he has taken al-Bashirism with him, too.

The truth is that it is extremely hard for members of a tyrannical establishment to unlearn bad habits acquired under the old regime, as we Zimbabweans have discovered over the last year and a half. Old dogs struggle with new tricks. Your struggle is only half-done unless the entire system gives way. You wanted the tyrant to go, but the price for it can’t have been a retention of the system.

The annals of history have a familiar narrative: when the military takes power, it first undertakes to rule temporarily before handing over to the civilian authorities. But as one leader is reputed to have said, the truth is that power is sweet, and because of that, it is hard to let go. If there must be a transitional authority, demand that it be a truly civilian authority, not a military one. It rarely ends well. Don’t let the people’s revolution get hijacked by the establishment. Don’t them run away with it.

Meanwhile, other tyrants around the continent will not be sleeping easy tonight. There is a wind blowing across the continent and it is deeply uncomfortable for their species.

“Constitution Says I Must Do It,” E.D On Compensations

Emmerson Mnangagwa

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday defended his government’s move to compensate white former commercial farmers for improvements on farmland seized during the 2000 fast-track land reform programme, saying the decision was a constitutional requirement.

Addressing a Zanu PF national youth indaba in Harare, Mnangagwa said he would not reverse the decision because the land redistribution programme was also irreversible.

This came after South Africa’s firebrand opposition Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema on Wednesday accused Mnangagwa of reversing the gains of the liberation struggle by bowing to international pressure and pledging to compensate the dispossessed white farmers.

Malema charged that the farmers deserved no compensation because they “stole the land from the locals”.

“In agriculture, the land reform programme is irreversible and section 72 of the Constitution is very clear in this regard. However, the same Constitution provides that no compensation is payable in respect of its acquisition, except for improvements effected on the land before its acquisition, Mnangagwa said.

He added: “For a long time, government has provided through the fiscus for such payments in respect of the said compensation on improvements of the land. Government will meet its obligations as outlined in the Constitution. But for the avoidance of doubt, we fought for land and there is no way we will retract our position with regards the land reform (programme). Neither will we betray our fellow comrades who lie in marked and unmarked graves, who paid the supreme sacrifice for this land.”

Speaking at the same event, Zanu PF youth secretary Pupurai Togarepi said Malema had no right to criticise the Zimbabwe government’s policies.

“Malema must know that as a people of Zimbabwe the land question is behind us. We have our land and we don’t need anybody from anywhere to tell us anything. He has to go back to school and we advise that he goes back to the ANC (African National Congress), a more progressive revolutionary party so that he remains an African.”

The ruling party youth leader vowed to roll out a programme to economically empower their peers through various agricultural programmes.

Mnangagwa urged the youths to utilise the innovation hubs set up a various public institutions of higher learning as well as the India-Africa Incubation Hub centre in Harare for economic empowerment.

The Zanu PF leader also expressed concern over the spiralling cost of living, adding that he would soon summon captains of industry to explain the current hikes in prices of most basic goods.

“Government notes the present wanton, upsurge and ever escalating unjustified increase in prices,” Mnangagwa said.

“We urge compatriots in industry, business and commerce to desist from this inhumane trend which has brought untold suffering and misery to our people. Government is in the process of meeting stakeholders in the sector for discussions around the issue.

“We cannot have the continued exploitation of our people by those who exhibit rent-seeking behaviour.”

Muzondo Suspended Over Indecent Assault Allegations

Pauline Gundidza

EDZAI Isu Trust has suspended its director Tafadzwa Muzondo, who recently appeared in court facing charges of indecent assault after allegedly fondling songbird Pauline Gundidza’s breasts during a function in Highfield, Harare last week.

Programmes officer Obrien Makore will be the acting director.

Muzondo was remanded to April 16 on $100 bail when he appeared before Mbare magistrate Stanford Mambanje on Wednesday.

Edzai Isu chairperson Patience Gamuchirai Tawengwa said in a statement yesterday that Muzondo would be on suspension pending the outcome of the court case, with the organisation also conducting its own hearing on the matter.

“The matter is before the courts and as we eagerly await for the outcome, we have suspended him pending the outcome of the case,” she said.

“As an organisation, we do not condone violence in whatever form, so we are taking this case seriously and expect him to clear his name in court before he can continue his duties. We will also constitute our own internal hearing as soon as the court case is finalised.”

Tawengwa said they observed the principle that a person was presumed innocent until proven guilty.

“In that regard, we will not second-guess the courts and will wait on the outcome of the case before issuing out further statements,” she said.

Tawengwa said the board was also committed to facilitating the formulation of an arts industry sexual harassment policy under the guidance of the Zimbabwe Women Lawyers
Association (ZWLA) and the Zimbabwe Gender Commission (ZGC).

“Over the years, the trust has always intentionally sought to create a safe space for female artistes,” she said.

When Muzondo appeared in court this week, prosecutor Lawrence Gangarahwe alleged that on March 28, Gundidza was at Action Hub Studio where she had been invited as a guest
alongside other artistes.

The court heard that after the function, as Gundidza awaited transport with her friends, Mariane Kunonga and Rolland “Boss Kedha” Lunga, Muzondo allegedly remarked that Gundidza had beautiful breasts.

This annoyed the urban groover who then told her friends what had happened.

Kunonga and Boss Kedha allegedly warned the accused that it was not right to comment on someone’s breasts without her consent.

It is, however, alleged that Muzondo leaned towards the musician and fondled her breasts before going back to join his crew.

MDC Legislator Anele Ndebele Fumes Over State Media Reportage

By Own Correspondent| Magwegwe legislator, Anele Ndebele has criticised state media journalists for writing misleading headlines bent on defaming his character.

Ndebele said the journalists’ headlines implicated him in a bribery scandal.

Speaking before the parliament’s Mines and Energy Committee on Wednesday, Ndebele fumed:

“The Herald articles, whenever their (copies) went out on the streets, they would say ‘four members of the Mines Committee’, but we were not part of the Mines Committee at the time.

When you read the story, you do not need to be a lawyer chairman to tell that the story was written by an idiot…the title is going around the streets defaming us ‘four members of the Mines Committee’. That is attention grabbing.

I would like for this committee as I stated in my affidavit to remind journalists particularly in State owned media to go back to the ethics of journalism and practice.

We were all defamed and this has nothing to do with James Goddard. It has something to do with our rotten press in this country.”-NewZimbabwe

Next, Yoweri Museveni, “Your Days Are Numbered,” Declares Opposition

Robert Kyagulanyi

As the battle for the 2021 general elections draws closer, the man behind the People Power campaign, Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi has said President Museveni’s stay in power is numbered.

“I tell you (Museveni), your days are numbered. How can you say you went to the bush and fought for democracy yet you don’t even practice it in your NRM (National Resistance Movement) party even after 33 years?” Mr. Kyagulanyi said.

Mr. Kyagulanyi, who announced his intention to run for the presidency in 2021 general elections, asked the crowd in Arua to register for national identification cards so that they can be eligible to participate in 2021 elections and protect the votes as they did in last year’s Arua Municipality by-election.

“I ask you to have that same courage and be firm. Be assertive to your rights. Do the same like we did in August last year,” Mr Kyagulanyi said.

He lashed out at Museveni who said he should concentrate on his music career and not politics.

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party’s topmost organ, the Central Executive Committee or CEC, endorsed President Museveni as its presidential flag bearer for the 2021 polls.

The constitutional court in July last year ruled in favor of removing the limit. Last month Uganda’s Supreme Court began hearing a petition to challenge this decision.

Museveni, who seized power at the head of a rebel army in 1986, once said leaders who “overstayed” were the root of Africa’s problems.

The move by NRM’s top organ to ring-fence the position of party presidential flag bearer for Mr. Museveni follows a similar resolution by the national association of districts and lower local government councils under the Uganda Local Government’s Association (ULGA).

Uhuru Kenyatta Offered To Harbour Al Bashir

Uhuru Kenyatta with Omar Al Bashir

Two months ago, while what started as a series of demonstrations in several Sudanese cities due to spiraling costs of living and deterioration of economic conditions quickly ossified into a revolution- Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta vowed to stand firm with the hitherto disgraced strongman- Omar al- Bashir.

Around that time two months ago- in February to be precise, al-Bashir declared a state of emergency and dissolved the national and regional governments, replacing the latter with military and intelligence-service officers. On 8 March, al-Bashir announced that all of the women jailed for protesting against the government would be released.

On the weekend of 6–7 April, there were massive protests for the first time since the declaration of the state of emergency. On 10 April, soldiers were seen shielding protesters from security forces and on 11 April, the military removed al-Bashir from power in a coup d’etat.

Fallen Sudan dictator  Omar Al-Bashir was welcome to Kenya even as other nations shunned him following his war crimes indictment.

On February 6, as protests raged across Sudan, President Uhuru Kenyatta assured Bashir of Kenya’s support as calls mounted for him to quit. With his 30-year-old grip on power severed- at-least partially- Kenya is the country that Bashir now under house arrest is most welcomed to.

“Kenya will continue to support Sudan as it manages its internal affairs because the sovereignty of all Igad (Intergovernmental Authority on Development) member states is something of great importance to us. As a member of Igad, Sudan is a pillar of stability in the region,” President Kenyatta said. The President spoke as he received a special message from the 75-year-old leader, which was delivered by Vice-President Osman Mohammed Yousif at State House, Nairobi.

On April 11 last year, Deputy President William Ruto met Al-Bashir in Khartoum where they held bilateral talks that focused on trade.“I take this opportunity to ask Kenya to consider purchasing uniforms, including those of the military, from our country as we commit ourselves to increasing purchase of tea from your country,” Bashir was quoted telling Ruto.

Under Uhuru’s regime, a US report revealed in 2016 that South Sudan President Salva Kiir and former Vice-President Riek Machar, fierce rivals in a civil war that has claimed tens of thousands of lives, maintain family homes a short distance from one another in a wealthy Nairobi neighbourhood.

In addition, large sums of money was reportedly moved through accounts in Kenyan banks held by major figures in South Sudan’s calamitous conflict, says the report by The Sentry, a watchdog group co-founded by Hollywood actor George Clooney.

A compound occupied by members of President Kiir’s family sits inside a gated community in Lavington, “one of Nairobi’s most upscale neighbourhoods,” states the 65-page report entitled “War Crimes Shouldn’t Pay.”

The extensive property was found to include a two-storey, pale yellow villa that is more than 5,000 square feet in size.

Dr Machar, the leader of South Sudan’s armed opposition, also has family members living in a luxury home in Lavington, says the report.

This property includes “a large backyard with a large stone patio and a teardrop-shaped, in-ground swimming pool,” reveals The Sentry. The Machar property “is located a short drive from the Kiir home,” notes the report.

Four of President Kiir’s grandchildren attend a private school in a Nairobi suburb that costs about $10,000 (Sh1 million) a year, The Sentry adds, citing a “knowledgeable” anonymous source. “President Kiir officially earns about $60,000 per year,” The Sentry points out.

Posts on social media show Kiir family members “riding jet skis, driving in luxury vehicles, partying on boats, clubbing and drinking in the Villa Rosa Kempinski — one of Nairobi’s fanciest and most expensive hotels — all during South Sudan’s current civil war,” says the report.

Not left behind is the family of General Paul Malong Awan, chief of staff of South Sudan’s army, described in the report as “the architect of immense human suffering” in the course of the conflict. His family owns a villa in an upscale community within Nyari Estate in Nairobi.

When the said Malong fell sick, Uhuru rushed to his hospital bed.

“The home includes marble floors throughout, a grand staircase, numerous balconies, a guest house, an expansive driveway and a large, in-ground pool,” states the report.

Prostitutes Protest Against Prostitution

DURBAN – A group of working and former prostitutes gathered at the Durban High Court this morning to protest against the trade being decriminalised.

Inside court, the man accused of murdering Siam Lee by burning her to death, along with a raft of other charges, was about to appear in the dock ahead of his trial. He is out on bail. He has not yet pleaded.

“This case is evidence that prostitution can never be made safe,” said Mickey Meji, founder of the country-wide sex worker survivor movement, Kwanele, who led the protest, and reiterated her concern against the decriminalisation of sex work.

Lee disappeared from a brothel in Durban North early last year and was found two weeks later, burned to death, in a sugar cane field near New Hanover, in the Midlands.

“We are calling on the President not to offer us to men, pimps and brothel owners to be bought and sold and exploited as a solution to systematic failures and that he actually addresses the systematic failures of the Republic of South Africa,” said Meji.

Meji added that the pro-decriminalisation lobby comprised “academic people who use figures and numbers and posh English” and that those at the coal face were not heard “simply because we are not educated”.

“Prostitution in South Africa bears the face of poor, black women from disadvantaged backgrounds with limited levels of literacy.”

Kwanele proposes that plans should be made to enable such women to take up proper employment.

“The Second Republic, Under Mnangagwa, Is Rolling Out Freedoms In All Spheres”

PREPARATIONS for the 39th Independence Day celebrations are at an advanced stage amid calls for President Mnangagwa’s administration to maintain the level of liberalism and freedoms being enjoyed under the Second Republic.

The nation celebrates Independence Day next Thursday.
The Second Republic, under the stewardship of President Mnangagwa, has been rolling out freedoms in all spheres, a complete departure from the previous era.

This year’s celebrations follow the peaceful, free and fair elections held last July where political parties campaigned and held meetings freely while Zimbabweans can openly critisise Government without fear of retribution.

As the reform agenda gathers momentum with the intention of attaining Vision 2030, democratic space has been opened up and Government is repealing statutes such as the Public Order and Security Act (Posa) with the Maintenance of Peace and Order Bill while the Protection of Personal Information Bill is repealing the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (Aippa).

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa yesterday said preparations for the Uhuru celebrations were progressing well.
The celebrations will be held under the the theme: “Zimbabwe @39; Embracing Devolution for Vision 2030”.

“Preparations are at an advanced stage and almost all the things are in place,” Minister Mutsvangwa said.

“This is an important event for us as it is the first after our harmonised elections in the Second Republic and we are encouraging all the people to attend regardless of political afficiliation. The main event will be at the National Sports Stadium in Harare and we are also working to ensure the events in all the 10 provinces take place well. Entertainment has been lined up and it will be a day to remember.”State media

“Ignoring The Issue Will Not Make It Go Away, ” Mnangagwa Buys Into Chamisa’s Manifesto And Rushes To Compensate White Farmers.

Nelson Chamisa

Own Correspondent|President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his finance Minister Mthuli Ncube have all but bought into the opposition MDC leader Nelson Chamisa’s election promise that former white farmers will urgently need to be compensated for all the improvements on the land they lost during the land resettlement exercise.

Chamisa spoke vividly on the issue of the compensations during his campaigns and emphasised the issue as a priority in the MDC Government.

Said Chamisa, “Our manifesto is clear. The 99-year leases have failed to satisfy the banks. We need a quick land audit followed by title deeds to all resettled farmers. Land freed up by the audit will go to new beneficiaries. All former white farmers must be fully compensated for their losses.”

President Mnangagwa’s government sees the paying of compensation to white farmers as key to mend ties with the West, and has set aside $17.5 million in this year’s budget to that end. The initial payments will target those in financial distress, while full compensation will be paid later.

“The registration process and list of farmers should be completed by the end of April 2019, after which the interim advance payments will be paid directly to former farm owners,” Government said on Monday.

Zimbabweans from different walks of life have condemned the government’s decision to compensate white farmers forcing President Mnangagwa to clarify that he is not paying farmers for the land but for the improvements done on the land.

Drama As Man Snatches Neighbour’ s Wife

BUTHOLEZWE Nxumalo is heartbroken after his wife of about 10 years reportedly eloped to her married lover who is also their neighbour.

Narrating his ordeal, Nxumalo of Ziyadinga Village in Esigodini said he was still to come to terms with his wife Samkeliso Dlamini’s decision to take the Biblical advice “love thy neighbour” the other way round when she deserted him to co-habit with their neighbour.

Nxumalo exposed his wife after she approached the court seeking a protection order against him claiming he was verbally and physically abusing her.

“I was married to Butholezwe Nxumalo since 2010. On 16 February this year, I was arrested for looting and when I went home on 13 March after being released from prison, Butholezwe started harassing me while accusing me of infidelity. He accused me of lying to him that I was in prison.
“He hit me on the face with fists.

I reported the matter to the police who later referred me to hospital for medication. When I went back home I was shocked when I found him with another woman in our matrimonial bedroom. Out of anger I chased that woman away, and was surprised when he followed her and never came back.

“He came back home after some days and during my absence and took some of the household property and keys to our shop,” complained Dlamini.

She insisted that she left her husband because she did not want to continue living in an abusive relationship.
Meanwhile, Nxumalo didn’t refute his wife’s abuse claims saying it started after he discovered that she was dating their married neighbour. He said he was shattered when he discovered that his wife had dumped him for the married neighbour.

“She moved out after I discovered that she was dating our neighbour who is also married. I am now staying alone after she eloped with that married neighbour. I can confirm that I assaulted her and this was after I confronted her on why she was dating a married man and destroying another woman’s marriage.

“I was also shocked when I discovered that she had been arrested together with her married lover. As a family, we once had a meeting over her adulterous relationship and it was also after she secretly sold our five beasts and spent the whole money with her lover. It is now clear that she no longer loves me after she moved on with our neighbour and I don’t have a problem with that,” responded a livid Nxumalo.State media

CHAMISA ELECTION PETITION LATEST: CHIEF JUSTICE LUKE MALABA STILL WITHHOLDLING JUDGEMENT REPORT 8 MONTHS RUNNING

Almost eight (8) months after the Apex court heard the matter in front of millions of Zimbabweans locally and abroad, the Constitutional Court of Zimbabwe, led by Chief Justice Luke Malaba, is yet to deliver its full judgment in Advocate Nelson Chamisa’s elections petition.

Walter Nyabadza queries why Chief Justice Malaba has not yet published the full judgement in the opinion article below.

Writes Nyabadza:

“The Constitutional Court of Zimbabwe, led by Chief Justice Luke Malaba, is yet to deliver full judgment in Advocate Nelson Chamisa’s elections petition,it has emerged.

This comes almost eight (8) months after the apex court heard the matter in front of millions of Zimbabweans locally and abroad.

When asked to comment on the Constitutional Court proceedings, the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) responded, through its Africa Programme Director Arnold Tsunga, “We are aware that the African Judges and Jurists Forum (AJJF) issued an exit statement that focused on procedural aspects of the case and not the substance of the outcome.

The fact that the case was held in open court and parties to the dispute given equal time to present their cases and that the decision was handed in open court and within the timelines provided for by the law is the reason why the AJJF possibly came out that way on exit.

However since the court did not hand the full judgment with reasons it is better to wait for the full judgment and reasons for such judgment before we comment on substantive aspects of the judgment.

At this stage we were surprised by the order of costs against the litigant as that is not normally done in matters where the application is not frivolous and involves a significant public interest issues as this one did.”

In Zimbabwe, the Courts can go for several months, if not years, without handing full judgment in a case.

It still remains to be seen how long it will take Zimbabwe’s apex Court to deliver full judgement with reasons in this much publicised electoral challenge.

THE Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) has threatened to deregister driving schools that do not meet stipulated standards.

In a telephone interview, TSCZ communications manager Mr Tatenda Chinoda said with effect from May 1, the TSCZ will conduct an inspection of all driving schools countrywide.

“The TSCZ will, in accordance with SI309 of 1985, carry out a compliance inspection of all driving schools .The countrywide exercise will be carried out by inspection teams from our various regional offices. All principals and proprietors are expected to provide up to date vehicle registers, instructors’ registers and student registers to the inspectors,” he said.

Mr Chinoda said all vehicles in use must display a valid certificate of road worthiness, vehicle badge and a board with adequate information.

“Any driving school that does not adhere to these standards is going to be deregistered. As soon as we do so, we alert the Vehicle Investigation Department (VID) as well the Zimbabwe Republic of Police (ZRP) to make sure that culprits cease operating,” he said.

Mr Chinoda said 90 per cent of road fatalities recorded in the country are caused by drivers’ errors which has pushed the traffic council to investigate how these drivers obtain licences.

“Driver error accidents are on the rise and it is very worrisome. 90 per cent of road deaths are caused by drivers who act recklessly. We are saying we have to trace these drivers if they are being trained by licensed schools or by bogus people who do not impart competence-based lessons,” he said.State media

Gvt Spokesperson Maintains Zim Is Under “Sanctions”

Farai Dziva|Government spokesperson Nick Mangwana says nobody should dispute the fact that Zimbabwe is under sanctions.

Zanu PF bigwigs are facing restrictive measures as a result of human rights violations.

“There are a lot of things we disagree on as Zimbabweans. It’s understandable we are diverse and hold different views. But can we at least agree on this one reality and we can discuss the wherefore later; Zimbabwe is Under Sanctions.”

“On one hand both the UK and EU say there are no sanctions against Zim, on the other hand the British are grappling on how to continue to impose sanctions on us outside the EU framework and still claim that they are not sanctions. But their legal instruments term them Sanctions,” claimed Mangwana.

Warriors To Face Mighty Pharaohs

ZIMBABWE’S Warriors will open the 2019 AFCON finals with a showdown against Mohamed Salah and his Pharaohs of Egypt at the Cairo Stadium on June 21 in a repeat of the national team’s first match at the continent’s premier football showcase in Tunisia 15 years ago.

The Warriors have played the Pharaohs at the Nations Cup before – the Egyptians were the first opponents Chidzambwa and his men faced in their first game at the AFCON finals in Tunisia in 2004 in a match the Pharaohs won 2-1.State media

Losing Opposition MP Candidate Turns Into A Fraudster To Make A Living

Jackson Lunga

A GWANDA Central parliamentary candidate for the Zimbabwe Partnership for Prosperity (ZIPP) in last year’s elections has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for conning residents of about RTGS $800.

Jackson Lunga of Spitzkop North suburb collected the money from five people after offering them houses which did not belong to him to rent, .

He was convicted on his own plea of guilty to five counts of fraud when he appeared before Gwanda magistrate, Mrs Nomagugu Ncube. Lunga was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment of which four months were suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offence within the next five years. Five months were further suspended on condition that he performs 175 hours of community service at Gwanda Urban Police Station. The remaining nine months were further suspended on condition that he pays $824 restitution to the complainants.

Prosecuting, Miss Faith Mutukwa said between July 27 last year and March 6 this year, Lunga collected money from five people that were looking for houses to rent.

“On 27 July Ms Sinenkosi Mikazhu sent a message on AmaJahunda Whatsapp Group indicating that she was looking for a house to rent. Lunga responded on the group and said he had a house that was for rent and claimed the house belonged to him. Ms Mikazhu paid $160 through EcoCash to Lunga and went to clean the house in preparation to move in.

“The caretaker of the house heard that there was someone at the house and went to check and found Ms Mikazhu. The two realised Lunga had conned Ms Mikazhu. On 2 February Mr Velile Moyo posted on the same Whatsapp group that he was looking for a house to rent and Lunga responded and said he had a house. Mr Moyo paid him $125 EcoCash for the house and later realised that he had been conned,” she said.

Miss Mutukwa said on March 3 Mr Jobe Mabhena posted on the same group looking a house to rent and paid $140 to Lunga. She said Mr Mabhena later learnt that the house did not belong to Lunga and that he had conned him. She said on March 6 Mr Ephraim Moyo posted on the same Whatsapp group looking for a house to rent and paid $179 to Lunga and later realised he had been conned.

Miss Mutukwa said on March 10 Ms Sikhulile Moyo posted on the group looking for a house to rent and paid $220 to Lunga. She said the complainants reported the matter to the police who carried out investigations resulting in Lunga’s arrest.

As if that was not enough, Lunga went on to threaten state media reporter, Reboni Noko if she published the story.

“I was going to the shops before Jackson Lunga confronted me and threatened me. He said if I proceed and write fake news about him, he will deal with me,” Noko narrated her ordeal.

She added that the politician also threatened to cut short her career.

“He said I must remember that he can easily tarnish my image and destroy my career,” said the journalist.

ZCTU Divided Over MDC A Congress?

A showdown is looming between the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) and its membership over the labour representative body’s decision to join MDC-Alliance ahead of the embattled party’s crunch congress next month to elect new leadership, The Herald has learnt.

The turmoil brewing in the labour body comes after MDC-Alliance resolved at its national standing committee (NSC) meeting to allot a quota of posts to the trade union.
The resolution irked the trade union’s general council members, who expressed alarm over conspiracies by the ZCTU leadership to conflate labour and opposition politics.

According to documents gleaned by The Herald, ZCTU president Mr Peter Mutasa and secretary-general Mr Japhet Moyo are being accused of abusing their authority by unilaterally forcing the labour body to join opposition politics.

Mr Mutasa reportedly wrote to MDC-Alliance leader Mr Nelson Chamisa, formalising the request for the allocation of a quota of posts in the opposition party.
“The request was discussed and approved during the MDC NSC meeting which was held at the Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House on 5 April 2019,” reads the document.State media

Senior Gvnt Official Denied Bail For Looting Cyclone Idai Aid Weeps In Court

By Own Correspondent| A top government official who allegedly stole an assortment of Cyclone Idai donates wept in court uncontrollably after she was denied bail.

Christine Chideme (63), a deputy director in the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development was arrested after being found with goods worth $3 000 that were donated by well-wishers towards Cyclone Idai survivors.

Chideme appeared before resident magistrate Mr Farai Gwitima who remanded the matter to April 17.

The public prosecutor, Themba Dhliwayo, told the court that Chideme was coming from Silver Stream command centre and driving Toyota Landcruiser (WAG-CD23) heading to Chipinge when she was flagged by Terrence Majonga, a soldier. Said Dhliwayo:

Majonga requested to search the vehicle and the accused person accepted.

She told Majonga that she was carrying some groceries which were on a voucher she was given by members of the civil protection committee at Silver Stream in Chimanimani.

After finalising the search Majonga found out that the groceries which were written on the voucher were fewer than the goods loaded in her vehicle. Upon interrogation, Chideme failed to give a satisfactory statement leading to her arrest.

Some of the goods which were stashed at the back of the vehicle included 6×35g peanut butter, 3×30 cotton pads, 6×10 Happy pads, 11×500ml Bonaqua mineral water, 2×125 Tanganda tea three leaves, 4×2,5kg porridge, 12×125g Arenel biscuits, 4×2,5 tsabanga porridge, 5×2kg rice, 2×6 pack candle, 8 boxes of 6×25g bathing soap,1kg mega salt, 6×2litre orange crush and 12 pure drop cooking oil.

Transform Zimbabwe President Jacob Ngarivhume Speaks On Sudanese “Coup”

By Own Correspondent| Transform Zimbabwe President Jacob Ngarivhume says Zimbabweans should draw lessons from Sudan where the military staged a coup against long-time strongman Omar Al-Bashir on Thursday.

The Sudanese people have rejected the proposal to form a Transitional Military Council to govern the country for the next two years. The citizens have demanded a civilian government now.

Said Ngarivhume:

“The Sudanese people are now demanding a civilian transitional authority because they have learnt from the last 5 coups that the Military Is not meant for governance.

I hope it doesn’t take Zimbabwe 50 years. Zimbabwe badly needs a Civilian Transition authority without political leaders.

Zimbabwe has a deficit of people who are honest driven political leaders. It appears people are willing to do and say anything for political positions and such people can never be trusted with the nation.

It is also important to come to terms with the fact that Freedom for our nation will never come through the ballot box. For freedom to come through the ballot we would need reforms in the electoral system. I can confidently say that ZEC is a ZANU PF entity and it will never reform voluntarily.

Reforms also have to be pushed through in PARLIAMENT and OPPOSITION does NOT have the numbers to push such reforms and as long as opposition continues to field double candidates and self-sabotage there will never be enough numbers to push for reforms in Parliament and this reality faced by all instead of lying to ourselves about a Victory in 2023.

Sometimes facing our reality instead of entertaining unrealistic notions is important. facts to face when it comes to ZANU PF.

ZANU PF will never change, ZANU PF will never Reform, ZANU PF will always promise you the moon and the stars but you never get anything and if ZANU PF gives you something there is a price tag on it and they will collect.

Zimbabweans need to understand that we are in this together, Black, White Asian, Shona or Ndebele we must be UNITED.

ZANU PF will never relinquish power through the ballot. ZANU PF Is already planning how they will rig the next election.

They are ten steps ahead as ZANU PFs Primary business is the business of staying in POWER. Somewhere in the ZEC Office, the Presidential results for 2023 are already being plotted.

The toughest reality we must face is that it will probably take a people-driven revolution to remove ZANU PF. meaning we the people will have to take the lead in getting our lives and the future of our children back from the grip of ZANU PF.

When a politician or Political party says they will win in 2023 be good to yourselves Zimbabweans and ask them, What reforms have they pushed or currently pushing that will ensure the elections are free and fair and that ZEC will announce opposition as the winner? If the answer is in the negative, then the chances of winning are next to none.”

MDC Congratulates Sudan Over Ouster Of Dictator Omar Al Bashir

By Own Correspondent| Opposition MDC has congratulated the Sudanese people for pushing for the removal of the country’s long-time dictator Omar Al Bashir.

Below is the full text of the MDC statement:

“The MDC congratulates the people of Sudan for successfully pushing for the removal of a longtime dictator, Omar Al Bashir.

Despots must fall in no particular order. They defined African politics and defined it in the wrong way.

On his part, Al Bashir was involved in crimes against humanity.

He must be held accountable for the genocide and civil war. Everyone else who did the same must be subjected to the justice delivery system in line with International Law.

We are, however, quick to mention that the AU must be worried that elections in Africa have ceased to be the basis of authority.

Modern functional states exist on the sole basis of a liberal construct in which the masses are the masters of their own destiny by choosing those who govern them.

The focus must be to ensure a smooth civilian transition. The AU must urgently underwrite the process otherwise left on its own, the process may develop into a military State.

In Zimbabwe, the push for Mugabe to leave office which had gone for close to two decades was hijacked by the military and now the people have to fight again.

This pattern must not be allowed to happen as it will be bad for the citizens of Sudan. We speak from experience as this anarchy is bad for the continent.

Mutodi Clarifies On White Farmers’ Compensation, “We Are Mending Relations With The West”

By Own Correspondent| Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Energy Mutodi said that the government’s decision to compensate white former commercial farmers is meant to mend relations with Western countries.

Mutodi was speaking to a local publication in response to utterances made by South African opposition politician, Julius Malema.

Malema told South African journalists in Johannesburg on Wednesday that President Emmerson Mnangagwa has sold out Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle by compensating the whites and will not finish his term in office.

Said Mutodi:

“Government is clearing all obstacles that have hampered cordial and co-operative relations with Britain and the whole European Union bloc. The Second Republic is focusing on re-engagement.

The compensation of the former white farmers is necessary to instil investor confidence. We are implementing a number of reforms that ensure that we create a clear break from the past and lay a firm foundation for investment. That is the (direction) this government has taken.

We are compensating for improvements and not for the land itself and it’s only fair that we handle the land issue in that manner so as to bring finality to the land reform exercise that has caused a lot of disquiet and lack of confidence in our commitment to the rule of law.”-Newsday

“Dialogue Is Not Power Sharing”: Zanu Pf Youth Wing Tells Opposition

By Own Correspondent- Zanu Pf’s 55 year old youth leader Pupurai Togarepi has warned opposition political parties against mistaking dialogue with President Emmerson Mnangagwa as a power sharing platform.

Togarepi, added that Zanu Pf had been given the sole mandate to rule by the people of Zimbabwe hence should not share power with any political party.

He said Mnangagwa was a good and accommodating leader who welcomed dialogue but the youth wing would not tolerate power sharing by “their elected leader”.

Said Togarepi:

“You are our President you saw it fit to talk to all of them (opposition political parties). But as the youth league, we do not want all those who hear about dialogue to think that it is negotiation. Dialogue we can talk, we can interact, we can hear their views but the mentality that the power that was given to Zanu Pf by the people of Zimbabwe can be shared, that mentality should be thrown away.”

Gvnt Rejects Senior Director’s Resignation

By Own Correspondent| Government has rejected the resignation of senior director in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development.

Angeline Karonga handed in her resignation letter a few days after corruption charges were levelled against her.

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development Joel Biggie Matiza told the state media that Karonga tendered her resignation at a wrong time as she has a case pending before the courts.

Said Matiza:

Yes, her resignation was turned down until her case which is before the courts are finalised. Her resignation letter states that she has served long enough and wants to resign, but it was felt that she should wait for the finalisation of her case.

Karonga is currently on bail on corruption charges. She was jointly charged with Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe general manager David Chawota.

The duo allegedly used a company they had formed, called Akodac Consultancy Services in 2009 which was awarded a tender by the Zimbabwe Road Admisitrauon Authority (ZINARA) in the same Ministry were Karonga is a director.

The company was then contracted to supply bitumen to Zinara and was paid US$1 234 004,72.8.-StateMedia

“Respect National Boundaries”: Malema Warned

By Own Correspondent| Permanent Secretary in the Information ministry Nick Mangwana has blasted neighbouring South African opposition political parties against interfering in the country’s national issues.

He implored the opposition parties to respect Zimbabwe’s sovereignty and stop the “big brother mentality”.

The statement follows EFF leader, Julius Malema’s recent utterances where he blasted President Emmerson Mnangagwa for wanting to reverse the land reform program.

Said Mangwana:

Memories Of Gukurahundi Atrocities “Tormenting” Mnangagwa

Farai Dziva|Expecting Mnangagwa to resolve the Gukurahundi issue is like hoping that a mosquito will treat malaria victims, a ZAPU official has said.

Mnangagwa played a pronounced role in the Gukurahundi atrocities, according to ZAPU.

ZAPU spokesperson Iphuthile Maphosa attacked Mnangagwa for toying around with the sensitive matter.

“Mnangagwa can never be sincere on Gukurahundi because it is on him. How does a mosquito invent a cure for malaria and compensate those it already killed?

That’s why this whole discussion rushes to healing while glossing over acknowledgement, responsibility taking, justice and reparations. It’s all a huge joke and Mnangagwa is simply continuing with his deception as he buys time in as far as facing justice for Gukurahundi is concerned,” Maphosa said .

Tribal War Erupts In Chiredzi

Farai Dziva|A tribal war has erupted in Chiredzi District as Shangani people in the area battle with Shona speaking teachers ” for territorial supremacy.”

Angry Shangani people have vowed to fight for the removal of Shona speaking teachers from Chiredzi District.

Last week Chief Tshovani declared that he would fight tooth and nail to remove Shona speaking teachers from his area.

“This is unfair, we have our ethos and values yet the government continues to deploy Shona speaking teachers to Chiredzi District.

We are in the process of negotiating with the responsible government officials because we no longer want Shona speaking teachers here,” said Chief Tshovani.

“The deployment of Shona speaking teachers is affecting our cultural values and beliefs. The teachers who are coming here cannot utter even a single Shangani word,” added Chief Tshovani.

LIVE: Sudan’s Coup Leader Steps Down A Day Later

VIDEO LOADING BELOW..

BBC – The head of Sudan’s military council has stood down a day after leading a coup that toppled long-time leader Omar al-Bashir amid a wave of protests.

Defence Minister Awad Ibn Auf announced his decision on state TV. He named as his successor Lt Gen Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman Burhan.

It comes after protesters refused to leave the streets, saying the coup leaders were too close to Mr Bashir.

The army has said it will stay in power for two years, followed by elections.

Mr Bashir’s downfall followed months of unrest that began in December over rising prices. At least 38 people have died in the protests.

Mr Ibn Auf was head of military intelligence during the Darfur conflict in the 2000s. The US imposed sanctions on him in 2007.
Protesters in Khartoum celebrated his departure.
The Sudan Professionals Association, which has been spearheading the protests, said Mr Ibn Auf’s decision to step down was a “victory” for demonstrators.

They are demanding a transition to civilian rule before they return home.

Mr Bashir has been indicted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity over the Darfur conflict.

What happened on Friday?
Despite the removal of Mr Bashir on Thursday, demonstrators refused to disperse, camping out outside the army headquarters in the capital, Khartoum, defying a curfew declared by the military.

On Friday, a spokesman for the military council said the army was not seeking power and Sudan’s future would be decided by the protesters – but said the army would maintain public order and disturbances would not be tolerated.

The military council also said it would not extradite Mr Bashir to face the ICC charges – which he denies.

It has imposed a three-month state of emergency, with the constitution suspended.

Awad Ibn Ouf has stepped down to be replaced by a general the senior military hope will be more acceptable to the protesters. The momentum is with civil society.

The regime has floundered since this phase of protests began. The old ways of coercion haven’t worked and they face a civil society that is well organised and disciplined. This is a further retreat. It is unlikely to be last.

And there’s the economic crisis brought about by misrule, corruption and loss of oil revenues. Even the regime’s friends in the Middle East and Asia will think twice about rescue packages if it looks like a new version of the old venality and brutality. That’s an important pressure.

This is an exciting moment. Just think about the role of women in all of this, of social media and civil society. It’s happening in Sudan but the significance of these forces working peaceful for change is universal. Yes it’s very precarious, but also full of possibility.

Male Nurse Dismissed After Telling Patient To Undress To Lower High Blood Pressure

Male Nurse Asks Female Patient To Undress To Lower Blood Pressure. The female’s mother says that the female was terrified after the event that occurred.

A nurse in South Africa was temporarily relieved from his duties after accusations of him sexually harassing a female patient. The man reportedly asked the female to take off her bra and unfasten her pants to help decrease her blood pressure. The 32-year-old is claimed to have then unfastened his pants and rubbed his private parts on the woman’s face.

Dharmendra Parekh, the manager of Isipingo JMH Hospital, says that the nurse has been temporarily relieved from his duties instantly on 3 April. The hospital is planning on conducting an examination. The manager of the hospital says that the patient’s relatives came to the hospital after the claimed sexual abuse.

The female’s mother says that the female was terrified after the event that occurred. The mother says that she was also terrified and had a hard time sleeping when the female told her about the event.

The mother says, “I only told my son what happened the following morning and he insisted we notify the hospital and the police.”

The family is well acquainted with the male nurse as he also used to help the female patients older sister at the Isipingo JMH Hospital. The older daughter went to the male as part of a check-up to go work overseas, the female patient also went to the doctor because she found a job overseas. According to the mother, the male nurse called a doctor and the doctor reportedly told him to tell the female patient that she needs to take off her bra and unfasten her pants.

The nurse then persuaded the female into switching off her cell phone. The mother saw that the female patient was not looking good but as she tried asking the female why she wasn’t looking good, male nurse started disturbing the conversation telling them that he’ll escort them out. The mother says that the female was broken down by the incident that occurred. The matter was sent to the police and a male was at the uMlazi Magistrates Court on Friday.

The party that started off in 1999 with workers, commercial farmers, students and other forces is set to be dominated by former student leaders after Nelson Chamisa, Chalton Hwende, Jacob Mafume, Tererai Obey Sithole, Tendai Biti and Daniel Molekele among other former student leaders have so far been nominated for key positions in the opposition MDC party.

zifmnews.com

So far Chamisa remains the only one to have been nominated for the party top post with five out of five provinces having finished the process.

Chamisa, a lawyer and former Harare Polytechnic student leader is in the race to take the party leadership with former student leader, Tendai Biti, also a lawyer eyeing the vice president post.

Biti so far is in contest with top lawyer, Welshman Ncube for the post.

Others nominated for the vice president’s post are Paurina Mpariwa, Morgen Komichi among others.

Another student leader eyeing a top post in the MDC ahead of the party congress in May is Chalton Hwende who has been nominated for the post of secretary general, a very key post in the party.

Hwende was the secretary general in the Zimbabwe National Students Union while Job Sikhala, another nominee in the MDC congress dynamics was the spokesperson.

Molekele, formerly known as Fortune Mguni, who cut his political teeth when he deputised former MDC spokesperson, the late Learnmore Jongwe at the University of Zimbabwe in the late 90s, has been nominated also for the prestigious secretary general post.

Article Says Mnangagwa Has Offered To Resign But It Has Double Negatives

An opinion analysis article published by a Europe based website claims that president Emmerson Mnangagwa has offered to resign.

Emmerson Mnangagwa

The Spotlight article states that this was as a result of pressure from the military. The piece went viral on Friday morning. The article however has got double negatives or rather double doubts in the credibility of its source content. Part of this is profiled in the graphic below.

Beyond this issue, It was noted that the core sources behind the article are all faceless.

FULL TEXT:
The game is all but over for President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s young presidency, as hardline army generals are reportedly said to have read the riot act to him, over a sheaf of serious issues caused by his leadership seen as compromising national security, resulting in Mnangagwa allegedly offering to step down to avoid a flood of political chaos in the country, Spotlight Zimbabwe, can exclusively reveal.

Image result for mnangagwa spotlight zimbabwe
Intelligence sources close to the Office of The President and Cabinet (OPC) said the securocrats, who include serving and retired generals close to vice president, Rtd General Constantino Chiwenga, fired the warning shots to Mnangagwa on Tuesday after they informally met among themselves for a security briefing, as it’s now emerging that VP Chiwenga it might seem, is running a parallel unit of the Joint Operations Commnad (JOC), which is full of high ranking military officials still loyal to his command.
JOC is a shadowy quasi military organ, bringing together the country’s military-security complex which includes the army, and its military intelligence wing and Presidential Guard, Air Force, Police, Prisons and the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) to manage homeland security affairs.

Chief among the generals concerns based on military intelligence findings, is Mnangagwa’s failure to fix the economy, which they believe is likely to cause “the mother of all civil revolts” in the country’s history, as inflation continues to soar at an all time high of 59.39 percent as of February 2019 according to Trading Economics, while the so called transitional RTGS currency is fast losing value with a current exchange rate of RTGS$1 to US$3,0675. Fuel queues have resurfaced across Zimbabwean cities and towns, with Harare holding the dubious record of being home to the world’s most expensive petrol. The average price of petrol around the globe is $1.12 per litre, yet Zimbabwean motorists suffer an exhorbitant amount of $3.40 per litre.

Image result for spotlight zimbabwe logo
As first reported by Spotlight Zimbabwe on 17 October 2018, Mnangagwa was warned by the army to urgently put the nation’s economic house in order, as they feared a possible popular uprising over his embattled regime’s extortionate taxes, uncontrollable price escalations, and growing shortages of fuel and food, all which he has dismally failed to arrest.
Other political hot issues raised by military intelligence include Mnangagwa’s move to compensate white farmers for losing their land under former President Robert Mugabe’s fast-track land reform of 2000 at a time government is broke, as his administration through the ministries of agriculture and finance annonced on Monday that it would start paying compensation to the former white commercial farmers this year, with a $17.5 million budget already in place to allow initial payouts to those in financial distress, while full compensation will be paid later.

Image result for spotlight zimbabwe logo
“Mnangagwa is definately in big trouble and his presidency is over,” said one of the sources based at Defence House in the capital. “An informal meeting consisting of top military brass officials was held on Tuesday, by generals who are currently serving together with some retired, where important security issues were discussed. From what we know, they’re not happy with the political leadership of Mnangagwa and that his failure to fix the economy together with questionable policies by one minister in particular are compromising national security. Military intelligence is pointing fingers at the ministry of finance, and there is strong concensus that the finance minister must be shown the door. The decision to pay compensation to white farmers has his fingerprints all over, as he hopes to curry favor with rthe World Bank and IMF to secure loans. So serious is the matter that the riot act was read to him (Mnangagwa), and he ended up offering to resign in private to the General (VP Chiwenga), to avoid political chaos in the country, as a good number of ruling party politicians also want him gone and are reviving and intensifying their bid to impeach him over gross economic mismanagement. The opposition we understand is also preparing a vote of no confidence for Mnangagwa in parliament. December 2019 might be far, he is surely going to resign to avoid humiliation like Mugabe.”

Zimbabwe’s white farmers are credited with turning the country into Southern Africa’s bread basket during the economy’s heydays, when surplus produce was exported to the region and beyond.

The sources also said one retired general currently serving in cabinet had also been told about a possible capture of the presidency by the finance ministry, as most of Mnangagwa’s policy pronouncements now appear to be the brainchild of the finance minister, and this has reportedly infuriated Chiwenga.

Image result for SB Moyo and Chiwenga
“They are very close (foreign affairs minister SB Moyo and Chiwenga). Minister Moyo has a dosssier on the possible capture of the president’s office by finance. When you look at the bigger picture it is the finance ministry peddling all these controversial policies, such as allowing 100 percent ownership of mining rights by foreigners in diamonds and platinum. In fact very soon all the remaining strategic minerals including untapped uranium reserves and the lithium we have will be wholly owned by foreign interests, which amounts to scrapping native empowerment. The story does not end there, another example of capture, is when Mnangagwa abondoned his World Economic Forum trip to Davos in Switzerland in January, to address the protests at home. I don’t need to mention the name of the person sent over to represent him at the Davos summit. Economic policy coming out from the minister’s office is dangerous and detrimental. How do you choose investment over ownership of natural resources. Who in their right senses does that?”

South African opposition leader, Julius Malema of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) came out guns blazing against Mnangagwa on Wednesday, saying his decision to compensate white farmers was a “sell-out position” warning that he is unlikely to remain in office for long.

Image result for Malema suit
“It’s a sell-out position, Mnangagwa is selling out,” Malema said during a news conference in Johannesburg.
“I can tell you now he won’t finish his term. The way he’s going about it, he’s not going to finish his term. That country is swimming in a pool of poverty; they can’t afford basic things like primary health care, good education and infrastructure. They get money and they go and give to people who are not deserving of such money. It’s a sell-out position, it’s unsustainable. He’s reversing the gains of the revolution and very soon the people of Zimbabwe will turn on him and he’ll have nowhere to hide. We don’t agree with Mnangagwa. They (white farmers) don’t deserve any compensation, and therefore anyone who compensates them for stolen land is a sell-out. So Mnangagwa is a sell-out. He must know that he’s bad, he’s a sell-out. We thought he was going to bring fresh air in Zimbabwe but he’s continuing to be worse than what we’ve experienced before. He’s a sell-out and he must know that.”
Another South African, renowned political commentator on Zimbabwe, Professor David Moore, from the Faculty of Humanities Department of Anthropology and Development Studies at the University of Johannesburg, has previously echoed the same sentiments as Malema, telling South African television station eNCA in an interview on Zimbabwe in August 2018, that Mnangagwa will be lucky to remain in office for the next five years.

“Zanu-PF too is going to be regrouping by October, because remember Mnangagwa himself thinks he might be impeached because there’s subterranean G40 people who are there,” said Moore. “Mugabe could hold his factions together. Morgan Tsvangirai at times he could, but at another times he couldn’t. You know Thokozani Khupe that whole thing. If Emmerson Mnangagwa can do a Mugabe for the next five years even, he’ll be very lucky.”

Image result for spotlight zimbabwe logo
Last month we reported that, a special delegation of senior military officials reportedly told Chinese generals that Mnangagwa’s political reign will expire in 2020, and that he was going to be an interim caretaker president up to the period, before the military replaces him with their preferred successor, a few days prior to ex-ruler Mugabe’s November 2017 coup.
Today we can also report that VP Chiwenga if all goes well, will be the next Zimbabwe president should his military confederacy insist that he takes up the position. There are also reports that foreign affairs minister SB Moyo and agriculture minister Perence Shiri, are likely to land very senior positions in a Chiwenga government as vice presidents in the presiduim. There also has been speculation by online reports, that the country’s richest man Strive Masiyiwa, might also land the vice presidency and is being considered to play a key role in a looming post-Mnangagwa dispensation.

The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) public relations department yesterday said they had no clearance to comment on our story as all matters concerning JOC are best addressed by the defence minister.

ESwatini Central Bank Denies Keeping Gaddafi Money For Zuma

The Central Bank of eSwatini denied holding money from a former president of South Africa following reports that Jacob Zuma had stashed the late Muammar Gaddafi’s money in that country.

“The Central Bank of eSwatini wishes to inform the nation and the international community that it is not holding and has never held money from a former president of the Republic of South Africa as it has been alleged in recent media reports locally and abroad.

“By law, and indeed in practice, the bank only holds money for the eSwatini Government and locally licensed commercial banks.

“The Central Bank of eSwatini would like to apologise to His Majesty the King Mswati III, Her Majesty Indlovukazi, the entire Swazi nation at large and anyone adversely affected by these false allegations.”

The statement was signed by Majozi Sithole, governor of the Central Bank of eSwatini.

The Sunday Times reported last weekthat Gaddafi, the late Libyan leader, gave Zuma an estimated $30m for safekeeping before Gaddafi was killed in 2011.

The money was reportedly secretly moved to eSwatini earlier this year from Zuma’s Nkandla residence, where it had been ostensibly hidden.

King Mswati III reportedly confirmed the existence of the money to President Cyril Ramaphosa during a meeting at OR Tambo International Airport.

According to the Sunday Times’ sources, Zuma travelled to Libya in 2011 with then intelligence minister Siyabonga Cwele, where the delegation offered the Libyan leader safe passage to SA as rebel forces closed in.

Libyan military authorities had reportedly asked Ramaphosa to help recover the estimated R442m which belonged to Gaddafi and which was believed to be in eSwatini.

Zuma took to Twitter and posted that he knew nothing about the money.

“Sigh! I owe millions in legal fees… I’ve asked you to assist with that one title deed in order for me to sell that house. I now hear that I have been keeping money belonging to my late brother Gaddafi. Where’s this money because His Majesty knows nothing about it,” said Zuma.

On Friday Cwele was attending a bilateral meeting at the Oshoek border post with eSwatini with his counterpart, Princess Lindiwe Dlamini, according to Government Communication and Information Services.

Chitungwiza Hospital Nurses Down Tools

Principal Nursing Officer Miriam Mangeya

CHITUNGWIZA Central Hospital nurses yesterday temporarily downed tools and demonstrated against their boss over nepotism.

The nurses took to the car park holding placards and beating drums alleging that the principal nursing officer Miriam Mangeya had turned the institution into her empire where she surrounds herself with her relatives at the expense of other nurses.

Zimbabwe Nurses Association chairperson Kingstone Mutsinzwa said nurses’ concerns had been turned off for some time forcing them to take the extraordinary measure.

“Nurses are no longer safe to air their views because of relatives and friends planted by the PNO who report negatively to her,” said Mutsinzwa.

Mutsinzwa said efforts to engage Mangeya were futile as she instead threatened to fire them.

“VaMangeya vanobva vati panoti Chitungwiza ndopanoti inini chero ukaendepi ivondovanosara.

“This has led the nurses to say enough is enough and staged a demonstration for their voices to be heard.

“They met as a team demonstrating. Mangeya relatives did not turn up but they sent names of those who were active during pre-demo meeting.”

Mandeya’s maiden surname is Muchakazi and these two surnames dominated the team selected that benefitted from the funded cholera dose programme.

“Some of the general hands are from her church.

“We are urging the ministry to investigate, do head counting and carry job evaluation and assess how Mandeya is administering the health institution,” he said.

Mandeya is on record admitting that she had relatives employed by the hospital but said she never had a hand in selecting people who went for cholera vaccination.

ZANU PF Will Never Criticise ZEC As That Will Further Dent Mnangagwa’s Credibility

Munyaradzi Mangwana

Correspondent|ZANU-PF legal affairs secretary Munyaradzi Paul Mangwana disclosed yesterday at a national multi-stakeholder post-election review conference in Nyanga that the ruling party blocked its candidates from filing their election petitions as that would have discredited the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

Mangwana said the ruling party would not criticize the ZEC because that would cast aspersions over President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s victory.

“In my capacity as secretary for legal affairs, I faced this challenge from Zanu PF candidates who had not succeeded in the last elections. They came forward to me and said we want to challenge the result of the election because we feel that Zec did not do its work very well,” he said.

Mangwana added: “If you were in my position, what would you do? Your party has won the election and has vigorously defended its victory in the Constitutional Court, but your (parliamentary and local government) candidates are coming to you, saying Zec did not do its work well, if they had done it well, I would have won the election.

“Any new process still requires to be reviewed with an intention of improving it to perfection if possible. I cannot stand before you to say the electoral process was perfect, but it was good for it to present a credible outcome. There are areas which do require improvement starting with the BVR (biometric voter registration) process itself,” he said.

The opposition has often accused Zec of playing mother to the ruling party and favouring it with information and internal secrets pertaining to its running of the polls, allegations denied by both Zanu PF and Zec.

When the MDC took their case to the Constitutional Court, all the nine judges on the benches threw it out as there was no sufficient election residue to prove that there was vote rigging.

Mangwana, however, claimed that there was an abuse of commissioned affidavits by political parties, leading to voters being registered in wards they did not reside.

Zanu PF said it wanted this problem to be solved by allowing political parties access to the voters’ roll three months ahead of polls to iron out challenges pertaining to voter egistration.

“You would find sometimes 70 people registered as staying in one room … through the relaxation of rules there was abuse, I am not saying by which political party, but political parties because they want to win at all costs can abuse relaxation of rules and that is what gave rise to the situation whereby people were simply getting pre-made affidavits by political agents,” Mangwana said.

Govt Turns Down Resignation From Senior Official Who Is On Corruption Charges

Joe Biggie Matiza

Government has turned down the resignation of senior director in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development Ms Angeline Karonga, who is facing charges of corruption involving a tender awarded to her company by the Zimbabwe National Road Administration.

Ms Karonga, who is the Ministry’s legal director, tendered her resignation a few days after she was arrested and arraigned before the courts on corruption charges.

Questions were raised over the timing of her resignation since her case was still before the courts. Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Joe Biggie Matiza confirmed the development to the Herald.

“Yes, her resignation was turned down until her case which is before the courts is finalised,” he said.

“Her resignation letter states that she has served long enough and wants to resign, but it was felt that she should wait for the finalisation of her case.”

Ms Karonga, who is on bail, is being charged together with Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe general manager David Chawota.

The pair formed a company called Akodac Consultancy Services in 2009, which was then awarded a tender by Zinara, a parastatal in the same ministry where Karonga is a director.

Akodac Consultancy was contracted to supply bitumen to Zinara and was paid US$1 234 004,72.

You Killed My Husband, Pay Up, Woman Demands From Mnangagwa.

Army Generals announcing Mugabe coup.

The wife of killed Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) boss Peter Munetsi, who died in military detention during the November 2017 coup which ousted former president Robert Mugabe, Rossie, is demanding her late husband’s post-mortem report and US$600 000.

Rossie has filed an application at the High Court seeking an order to compel the government, police and Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals to release her late husband’s post-mortem report.

Munetsi’s death has reportedly been under investigation by the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s Criminal Investigations Department. However, the police have not been forthcoming with the post-mortem results, forcing the family to engage lawyers.

The matter could open a can of worms by providing fresh insight into the circumstances leading to a number of deaths during the dramatic coup, which the government claims was “bloodless”.

Munetsi died on November 15, 2017 at the age of 55 and a memorial was held for him in Harare on January 27, 2018.

“We act on behalf of the estate of the late Peter Munetsi, please kindly note our interest herein. The now deceased Peter Munetsi was a member of the ununiformed forces employed as such by the Central Intelligence Organisation as a District Divisional Intelligence Officer.

“Peter Munetsi died in military detention on November 15, 2017. His death is the subject of your investigations,” a letter from lawyer Denford Halimani of Wintertons Legal Practitioners reads.

The correspondence was addressed to the officer in charge of the CID’s Law and Order section at Harare Central Police Station.

Halimani said the post-mortem is needed “so as to ascertain the cause of death and to forward the report to his insurers who require it as a precondition to redeem his insurance policy. The post-mortem is also required to consider seeking compensation for wrongful death and loss of support”.

“It is therefore extremely necessary for the post-mortem report to be promptly availed to us.”

He said the state-run Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, which conducted the post-mortem, referred the family to the CID Homicide department for the results.

“We are aware that the post-mortem is available. In this regard the post-mortem was signed off by the pathologist Dr (Tsungai Victor) Jabangwe. However, the post-mortem was not availed to us by the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals which indicated that it would be availed through the investigating officer and/ or the Officer in Charge at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals Police post,” said Halimani.

“We managed to have sight of the contents of the post-mortem report and are aware of its contents. We approached the Police Post at Parirenyatwa who referred us to CID Homicide at Harare Central Police Station, which is the reason for us writing this letter to you.”

Police spokesman Paul Nyathi said he was not aware of the matter. “I am not aware of the letter and I am not privy to any information which you are asking,” Nyathi said.

Reliable sources in the security sector maintain that some people, among them Munetsi, were killed during the coup.

The army operation left a trail of destruction at properties owned by government officials perceived to be loyal to Mugabe. The walls and doors were plastered with bullet holes and there was blood on the floor at some of the properties. Bullet casings and fragments were also found scattered around the properties.

There were blood stains around former finance minister Ignatius Chombo’s home, while casings and bullet fragments were found at the homes of former ministers Jonathan Moyo (higher education) and Saviour Kasukuwere (local government).

Former Zanu-PF youth leaders Kudzanai Chipanga and Innocent Hamandishe were detained and tortured by the military during the coup. Munetsi, a career spy, was captured by soldiers during the dramatic events.

However, late last year, Defence minister Oppah Muchinguri told parliament that no one was killed during the coup.

“As you are aware that Operation Restore Legacy spanned over the period 17th November, 2017 to 18th January, 2018, if the honourable member was referring to people who died of the various ailments, then that is best answered by the Registrar-General’s Office that deals with registration of births and deaths . . . However, if the honourable member is referring to victims of casualties of Operation Restore Legacy which I believe he was, Mr Speaker Sir, the answer is none. As far as we are concerned, no one was killed during this operation,” she said in October last year.

Her statement contradicted Presidential spokesperson George Charamba, who had earlier on that year, in April, admitted that a CIO officer died.

“We had one officer from the Central Intelligence Organisation who was arrested alongside a few others for standing in the way of an operation.

“That particular officer apparently was diabetic and because of the shock of that arrest, we lost him. It was a very sad incident that happened,” Charamba said.

Gvt Responds To Malema’s Remarks

Farai Dziva|South African opposition leader Julius Malema’ s moral compass is twisted, a government spokesperson has said.

Malema on Wednesday told South African media that Mnangagwa “is a sell-out.”

Speaking to Newsday over Malema’s jibes, Information ministry secretary Ndavaningi Mangwana claimed that the government was morally bound to compensate the white farmers for the infrastructure they built on the land.

“Mr Malema’s comments are ill-informed and they betray a failure to grasp Zimbabwe’s policy regarding land reform.
But that’s quite understandable because when one plunges into the domestic affairs of a neighbour based on tittle-tattle on social media, their chances of getting it very wrong are amplified as is the case here.

Zimbabwe’s policy is a very fair one. Our policy is not to compensate for land, but for farm improvements. The money set aside by the government in the budget is to pay for that.

Now if anyone believes that it’s right not to compensate for a house, an irrigation system, barn, borehole or school, then their moral compass is skewed and we have to question their sense of right and wrong,” said Mangwana.

Diego Costa Slapped With Eight-Match Ban

Farai Dziva |Atlético De Madrid striker Diego Costa has been slapped with an eight-match ban for insulting referee Jesus Gil Manzano’s mother during the 2-0 loss to Barcelona last weekend.

The 30-year-old was shown a straight red card in the 28th minute and had to be ushered from the field by Gerard Pique after initially refusing to walk.

Manzano said in his match report that Costa grabbed his arm and used a Spanish phrase that referred to defecating on his “prostitute mother”.

The Spanish Football Federation met on Wednesday and determined that Costa must sit out eight La Liga fixtures. The suspension means the former Chelsea player will miss the rest of the season.

Harare City Ready For Bosso

Farai Dziva|Harare City coach Mark Harrison will make changes in the team that will take on Highlanders on Saturday.

The Sunshine Boys have lost their opening two matches of the season, and it’s the performance against Manica Diamonds on Sunday that has forced the coach to look for other options.

Speaking to the press on Thursday, Harrison said the technical team is considering resting senior players and give youngsters some game time.

“We have been using experienced players, but so far the results haven’t followed, so this weekend you might see one or two youngsters coming in because at the end of the day I need to get results.

“If you see the senior players are not doing it, you look up to the younger players to do it,” the coach said.

Younger players such as Tellmore Pio, Learnmore Muyambo and Tatenda Tumba have all started from the bench this season.

The match will be played at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday and kick-off is at 3 pm.

Gvt To Deal With “Pricing Madness”

GOVERNMENT is working on mechanisms for the National Competitiveness Commission (NCC) to work with industry on a framework for pricing of goods, standards and service delivery. This was said by Industry and Commerce Deputy Minister Raj Modi in his key-note address during the 4th retailers and wholesalers’ Indaba 2019 in Harare yesterday, organised by the Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers (CZR).

Deputy Minister Modi’s remarks come at a time prices of goods and services have risen by between 25 percent and 75 percent in recent months, eating into the pockets of consumers.

But the NCC, which was set up in 2017 to examine cost drivers to improve business competitiveness using the value chain approach, has largely been invisible in all this pricing madness. Deputy Minister Modi said the NCC was understaffed while its chairperson Mr Kumbirai Katsande, was reportedly running the show on his own, a move that curtails his chances of attending to all pertinent issues affecting the market.
Deputy Minister Modi said the NCC was currently doing “the best they can under the current circumstances”, as the organisation still does not have a CEO and other critical staff.

However, Government says the NCC has been playing a critical role in addressing issues around bread prices. Deputy Minister Modi wants the NCC to be resourced so that it carries out its mandate, in conjunction with industry.

“I hope that industry players in all sectors of the economy will work closely with the commission,” said Deputy Minister Modi.
“My ministry is also looking at how the NCC can, together with suppliers, wholesalers and retailers, engage to come up with best practices on pertinent issues of pricing, standards and service delivery.
“There is need to agree on how our products can be priced using reasonable mark-ups especially between wholesalers and retailers as your role is critical to consumers.”State media
