Fire Razes Down NetOne Shop

PROPERTY worth thousands of dollars went up in flames on Monday after a fire razed down a NetOne shop in Marondera.

Residents watched helplessly as the fire engulfed the building, with the police blocking bystanders from looting mobile phones and recharge cards.

Mashonaland East acting police provincial spokesperson Assistant Inspector Tendai Mwanza said he was waiting for a report from police officers investigating the incident.

Efforts to get a comment from NetOne officials were fruitless, with a junior employee, who spoke on condition of anonymity, saying the fire destroyed goods in the storeroom and kitchen.

“The destruction mainly occurred in the storeroom and kitchen. It is in the storeroom where there are machines that deal with network systems,” the employee said.

Seven Thousand Apply For Postal Voting

Utoile Silaigwana

ABOUT 7 200 people have applied for postal voting ahead of the July 30 elections, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has said.

Applications for postal voting for security officials and others that will be away on national duty on the day of voting closed last Thursday.

In a statement on Tuesday, Zec chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba said applications for postal voting were being processed.

“The Commission has received about 7 200 postal vote applications and they are being processed. However, this does not mean that all applications will be considered as some of them may not be on the voters’ roll,” said Justice Chigumba.

In an interview, Zec acting Chief Elections Officer, Mr Utoile Silaigwana, said the majority of the applicants are diplomats who are deployed outside the country.

“We have received 7 200 people who applied, most of them diplomats as well as Zec officials but we are yet to verify some of those who applied,” said Mr Silaigwana.

The country will be holding a ward-based election on July 30.

According to the law, postal voting is only available to individuals who will be outside Zimbabwe on Government business on the polling day and their spouses.

Postal voting is also only open to such people who apply to do so within 14 days after the sitting of the Nomination Court.

The successful applicants will be furnished with the voting material in advance and will be required to send their votes in sealed packets to the Chief Elections Officer at Zec at least 14 days before the actual date of the poll.

The Chief Elections Officer will then distribute the postal votes to their respective constituencies in their sealed envelopes within seven days of the date of the actual poll.

The postal votes are further dispatched to their respective ward centres before the actual poll. They are only opened for counting at the ward centre at the time of counting the votes for the ordinary poll.

Drunk Fellow Arrested For Pulling Down MDC Alliance Posters

An MDC Alliance campaign poster.

A Gweru man has been fined $200 after being convicted of pulling down MDC Alliance campaign posters.

Emmanuel Mangena (31) of Ridgemont suburb in Gweru appeared before Gweru provincial magistrate Mrs Phathekhile Msipa for contravening the Electoral Act by defacing or destroying campaign posters.

Mangena pleaded guilty and was fined $200 or two months in prison if he fails to pay the fine.

For the State, Ms Memory Chitsunge told the court that on July 1, Mangena removed and destroyed posters of MDC Alliance presidential and parliamentary candidates, which was in violation of the Electoral Act.

Ms Chitsunge said on the said date at around 1800hrs, Mangena was drinking beer at Northlea Shopping Centre in Gweru when he started defacing and destroying MDC Alliance campaign posters.

She said Mangena went around the shopping centre destroying the posters and pulling down some of them from street light poles.

The court heard that fellow patrons tried to stop him, but he threatened them with unspecified action.

Ms Chitsunge said the matter was reported to the police ,leading to his arrest. In mitigation, Mangena said he was drunk and was not in total control of his actions and pleaded with the court to be lenient.

I Didn’t Withdraw: Alliance Candidate

Tendai Biti

An aspiring MDC Alliance Member of Parliament for Bulawayo South Mr Muvirimi Francis Mangwendeza is in limbo after the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission yesterday published his name among a list of candidates who have withdrawn from the harmonised elections slated for July 30.

In a notice, Zec published a list of 48 candidates from both the National Assembly and the Local Authority who withdrew from contesting in the July 30 polls. Addressing a press conference in Bulawayo yesterday, Mr Mangwendeza said he had not withdrawn from the race.
“I note with concern that my name has been listed as a having withdrawn my candidature for the National Assembly seat in the Bulawayo South Constituency. Let me categorically state that I did not withdraw my candidature,” he said.

Mr Mangwendeza said the notice was likely to cause confusion among his supporters and derail his campaign programme.

“The Zec advertisement has the effect of causing consternation and confusion among the electorate and I have been inundated with calls seeking clarification. It is evident that this is the work of people who are trying to derail my campaign and cause confusion within the voting public,” he said.
Mr Mangwendeza said when he contacted Zec provincial offices in Bulawayo, there was no record of his withdrawal.

“I therefore request the immediate withdrawal of the Zec notice and its replacement with a notice clarifying my candidature in all media that carried the advert,” he said.

Zec acting chief elections officer Mr Utoile Silaigwana said the notice could be an error, adding that his organisation would look into the issue.

He however, said no political party has power to withdraw the candidature of an individual.

“It is only an individual who can withdraw his or her candidature not the party,” said Mr Silaigwana.

Zimbabwe is heading towards a July 30 plebiscite and President Mnangagwa has appealed to contesting candidates to ensure that the polls will be violence-free.

According to the list of names, one of the National Assembly candidates who withdrew their candidature was Zanu-PF’s Martin Dinha who had filed his nomination papers to contest in Mazowe North constituency, while eight candidates were from the MDC Alliance including Mr Mangwendeza.

Dinha withdrew his candidature from the Mazowe North National Assembly race, leaving Zanu-PF with Campion Mugweni.

A total of seven independent candidates and two MDC-T members also withdrew as well as two National Patriotic Front (NPF) members.

The People’s Progressive Party of Zimbabwe (PPPZ), the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) and Zapu had one member each withdrawing from contesting in the elections.
For the Local Authority candidates, 12 independent candidates withdrew, while three MDC-T members and two members of the MDC Alliance also withdrew.

Two NPF and two NCA candidates also withdrew their candidatures while United Republic Party (URP), People’s Rainbow Coalition of Opposition Political Parties (PRCOPP) and Build Zimbabwe Alliance (BZA) had one member each withdrawing.-state media

ZRP Says Net Closing In On Bulawayo Bombers

Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga
Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga yesterday said two suspects were arrested in Bulawayo in connection with the White City Stadium terror attack at the beginning of an intense investigation to sniff out the perpetrators of the heinous atrocity which killed two security operatives and injured 49 people.

On June 23, a grenade that was targeted at President Mnangagwa went off at the stadium, causing pandemonium.
The President escaped unhurt but two aides to Vice Presidents Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi sustained serious injuries and later died in hospital.

Addressing senior police officers during his first tour of Bulawayo province since his appointment as the police boss, Comm Gen Matanga said a joint investigative team would continue updating the nation on progress made in the bombing investigations.

He described the attempt on the President’s life as a “nefarious” and “horrendous” act but assured the nation that the perpetrators would be brought to book as police would leave no stone unturned.

“As the Zimbabwe Republic Police, we will never rest until all those behind this heinous act have been accounted for and have had their day in court. We will do whatever it takes within the precincts of the law to ensure that this objective is met. At the risk of over emphasising, I wish to reiterate that no stone will be left unturned,” Comm Gen Matanga said.

“To this end, I would like to applaud the level of co-operation and support that the joint investigation team has so far received culminating in two suspects being accounted for. We really appreciate this collaborative effort and continue to appeal for more information which may enable us to bring to book whoever had a hand in this nefarious act beyond the two suspects we have nabbed.”
He said they were closing in on those behind the assassination attempt.
“To the perpetrators of this callous act I say, be warned that we will certainly sniff you out from wherever you are hiding and you shall face the full wrath of the law,” said Comm Gen Matanga.
The Officer Commanding Bulawayo Province, Senior Assistant Commissioner Learn Ncube, vowed that his team would work tirelessly until the would-be-assassins were arrested.

“As a province we would like to assure you that we will leave no stone unturned to account for the assassins,” said Snr Asst Comm Ncube.

He said the province was fully behind the new dispensation and through police services, they will create an environment attractive for investors.

Among those injured in the attempt to assassinate President Mnangagwa were Vice President Kembo Mohadi, Zanu-PF national chairperson, Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri and national commissar, Lieutenant General (Rtd) Engelbert Rugeje.

President Mnangagwa described the bomb blast as an act of cowardice and it has been condemned globally.

Zanu-PF has said the terror attack was satanic.
Meanwhile, Comm Gen Matanga has said law enforcement agents are receiving training on Electoral laws so that they employ high levels of professionalism on Election Day.
He lauded various arms of Government for preaching peace ahead of the July 30 elections.

“As the ZRP, we heartily applaud the Government stance on zero tolerance to political violence and tirelessly preaching the need for the country to hold free, fair, credible and transparent elections,” he said.

“By equal measure, we also express our profound gratitude to the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) for their apparent effort towards promoting national peace by facilitating the presidential candidates to commit themselves and their respective political parties to a peaceful campaign ahead of the plebiscite through the signing of a high level peace pledge.”-state media

Econet Crashes, Thousands Trapped

Customers stranded
THOUSANDS of Econet customers have been stranded in recent days as the popular EcoCash mobile money transfer platform has been misfiring. Subscribers have been struggling to make payments via EcoCash since Friday last week.
The problem intensified on Monday where there was an almost total blackout with intermittent transaction challenges continuing.

Disgruntled customers have since Monday been thronging the main Econet offices in Bulawayo along Leopold Takawira Avenue to vent their frustrations.

A majority alleged the system sent them messages that they had failed to complete transactions but later deducted money for the transactions multiple times.

Others said they were completely shut out and could not access money in their EcoCash wallets.
Subscribers said they experienced major challenges as most transactions were now done via the mobile money service.

“I kept on trying to complete a transaction at Greens Supermarket and network was bad. I was buying groceries for $16 but I realised today that $64 had been withdrawn from my wallet. All the times when the system reported that the transaction had failed, it was actually deducting my money,’ said Mr Nkosilodumo Mzaca, a shopper.
Business people were also affected as most people are using plastic money due to the scarcity of cash.
“This is bad because people now generally buy using EcoCash or swipe. This puts us out of business because a huge number of our customers make transactions via EcoCash. We hope that Econet rectifies the situation rapidly because we are running losses,” said Mr Tapiwa Rujeko, a manager at a local fast food outlet.

EcoCash clients who spoke to The Chronicle called for the mobile money services provider to consider innovating and finding ways of reversing transactions without them having to go through cumbersome bureaucratic channels.

“We have been queuing here since yesterday trying to get reversals for the money that has been deducted and the process is very slow,” said a man who declined not to be named.
Mr Knowledge Dube said he had been waiting in a queue to reverse transactions for more than three hours.

“It is a tedious process. I took time off work. I have been waiting since morning and we have since been given some forms to fill in and submit so that we can get some statements to take to the shops that were allegedly credited with our monies,” he said.

A customer service employee at the Bulawayo branch confirmed that there were network disruptions which resulted in the long queues as a lot of people had been affected.
Efforts to speak to Econet Bulawayo Main Branch Manager Mr Mpumelelo Ncube were futile as he was said to be “overwhelmed with work.”

In a statement in response to inquiries from The Chronicle, Econet Group Public Relations Officer, Mr Fungai Mandiveyi, said: “EcoCash advises that following scheduled system maintenance work, some customers have been experiencing intermittent transaction challenges.

“Our technical teams are working to resolve the challenges as soon as possible. EcoCash sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused”.-state media

Prophet Freddy Slapped With Lawsuit Over Adultery Prophecy

Prophet Freddy
Goodness and Mercy Ministries’s Tapiwa Freddy has been hit with a $100 000 lawsuit after publishing a prophecy that allegedly exposed a Harare man’s extra marital affair.

The plaintiff, Berry Mutimbe of Unit O Seke, Chitungwiza, wants Freddy to foot defamation damages of $100 000 because his community now sees him as an adulterer following the prophecy.
Mutimbe’s lawyers Bothwell Ndlovu Attorneys at Law filed the summons at the High Court yesterday leaving Freddy with 10 days to respond to the summons.

According to the summons, sometime last year Freddy, who is famed for introducing “spiritual spectacles” — uttered defamatory words and caused their publication through a local radio station and Internet via the YouTube platform.

Freddy allegedly said: “Ndirikuoneswa uine boyfriend inoshanda kuFire Brigade zita rake rinonzi Barry Mutimbe (I have been shown that you have a boyfriend who works at Fire Brigade called Barry Mutimbe) and as I am looking in the realm of the spirit ndirikuona akakutengera stand kuHopley, wakasvika ipapo ukaratidzwa stand pauri kutaura nyaya yako arikuti enda unogara ikoko (he bought you a residential stand and wants you to go and stay there).”

According to the summons, “the words were understood by the audience to mean Mutimbe had an extra marital affair with the person who was being given the prophecy.”

“It was further claimed that Mutimbe had a reckless character of being irresponsible and extravagant by buying Whisper Dzumbunu a residential stand at the expense of his economically suffering family.
“By so uttering and publishing such words Freddy demeaned Mutimbe as an adulterer who would break his good faith to his wife.

“He portrayed him as a ‘resource waster’ who could be so irresponsible to spoil a girlfriend with immovable property at the expense of his family.

“The defendant has despite being notified to stop uttering and publishing such demeaning statements continued to do so as he uses the clips to market his church on radio and the internet…further trampling plaintiff’s reputation by making him appear as an extortionist as appeared in the press.

“The plaintiff’s person has been demeaned as workmates, relatives, church mates and society at large now sees him as an irresponsible adulterer.”

It was also claimed that Freddy’s statements had torn apart Mutimbe’s family causing “the departure of his regard by others as a man devoid of real fatherhood principles in the eyes of society”. – Daily News

Obert Gutu In Trouble Over Lying In Broad Daylight

Harare lawyer Advocate Thabani Mpofu has written to the Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) seeking the censure of MDC-T vice president Mr Obert Gutu for unprofessional conduct.

Mr Gutu is also a lawyer practising under Gutu Chikowero Legal Practitioners.

Adv Mpofu, who was representing the MDC led by Mr Nelson Chamisa in the party logo dispute in Bulawayo last week, successfully sought the recusal of Justice Martin Makonese from hearing the matter.

After the judge’s recusal, he accused the lawyer-cum-politician of communicating falsehoods to the Press about what happened in the Chambers of Justice Makonese.
He allegedly caused publication of stories insinuating that Adv Mpofu had labelled Justice Makonese, a “Zanu-PF judge”.

Adv Mpofu denies ever accusing the judge of being political. He dismissed Mr Gutu’s media statements as false and an indirect attack on the judge.

Adv Mpofu argued that Mr Gutu’s conduct was tantamount to attacking the person of the honourable judge using other people’s names.

He has instructed his own lawyer, Mr Raymond Moyo of Gill Godlonton and Gerrans, to write to LSZ seeking the censure of Mr Gutu.

Part of the letter reads: “In fact, Mr Gutu attacks the Honourable judge using our client’s name and attributing the attack on our client. Our client takes the view that Mr Gutu must be censured for this conduct. Not only so, he must retract these public statements. His retraction must be given the same prominence as the allegations themselves.”

Mr Gutu’s alleged conduct, according to the lawyers, brought embarrassment to Justice Makonese and legal practitioners.

“It brings the administration of justice into disrepute,” the letter reads. Professor Lovemore Madhuku, who represented the Dr Thokozani Khupe MDC-T faction in Justice Makonese’s Chamber, is said to have also dismissed Mr Gutu’s statements as untrue.

“We are also instructed that Prof Madhuku has acknowledged the falsity of the allegations being made against our client,” reads the letter.
Mr Gutu is also being accused of behaving dishonourably.

“Our client is obviously also aggrieved that a senior member of the legal profession has behaved dishonourably and in an unethical fashion in that quite apart from the falsity of the allegations against our client, he has purportedly sought to publicise what the parties and the judge had dealt with in Chambers,” the letter reads. – state media

World Cup: England Break Penalties Curse To Reach Quarter-Final

Harry Kane scores England’s first penalty

England have put an end to their penalty shootout curse, beating Colombia 4-3 to reach the World Cup quarter-finals.

Eric Dier put away the final spot kick to secure victory, having been given the opportunity to put the Three Lions into the quarter-final after Jordan Pickford saved from Carlos Bacca.

Jordan Henderson was the first not to score thanks to a fine David Ospina save, fuelling fears of yet more shootout heartache for England, but Mateus Uribe clattered the next spot kick off the underside of the crossbar.

Kevin Tripper stepped up to draw England level, before the one-handed save from Pickford and firm finish from Dier sent England through to a last eight clash with Sweden on Saturday.

England certainly put their fans through the wringer, having been moments away from victory when Yerry Mina headed home from a corner in the third minute of injury time at the end of the second half to cancel out Harry Kane’s opener.

The set piece arrived after Pickford – who was criticised for his performance in the final group stage game against Belgium – was forced into a stunning fingertip save by a 30-yard piledriver from substitute Uribe.

It was the first real test of the night for the England goalkeeper, who had been a relative bystander for the majority of what was a feisty affair in Moscow.

Henderson, Harry Maguire and Raheem Sterling were all involved in clashes, and it was a spot of rough and tumble that looked like it would cost the South Americans until the injury time drama.

In scenes reminiscent of both England penalties against Panama nine days ago, Kane grappled with Carlos Sanchez at a set piece in the 57th minute and the referee showed no hesitation in pointing to the spot.

The skipper beat Arsenal goalkeeper Ospina from the spot – his sixth strike of the tournament.

It took him two clear of Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku and Cristiano Ronaldo in the goal-scoring charts.

But England failed to build on taking the lead and looked a shadow of the side that had played so wonderfully well against Tunisia and Panama once extra-time began.

Colombia looked brighter for much of the additional half an hour, but Danny Rose went close with a fine effort before the clearest England chance of the night fell to Dier with five minutes left.

Advocate Nelson Chamisa

By Paul Nyathi|MDC Alliance President Advocate Nelson Chamisa has responded to state media reports he met former President Robert Mugabe in Dubai and they agreed on a cabinet to be set up after elections.

This is what President Chamisa posted on Twitter.

@nelsonchamisa

The Herald’s fictitious story that I met Mugabe in Dubai, a place I have never visited in my life, and its hilarious cabinet list assigned to me; would give everyone a great laugh, only if today was April fools day. Our SMART focus is to deliver the people’s will, come 30 July.

President Donates 40% Of His Salary Ahead Of Elections

Peter Mutharika

Malawi President Peter Mutharika on Tuesday revealed that 40 percent of his salary goes back to government refuting critics that he is sticking to the seat of presidency for financial gains.

Speaking in his acceptance speech at the elective convention which took place at COMESA Hall in Blantyre, Mutharika refuted allegations that he wanted the presidency for financial gains.

“Let me reveal to you, more especially to those who think I am sticking to the seat of presidency because of money. I am here for the sake of development.

I am supposed to be receiving K 2.7 million as my salary per month for being the president of this country but I get 40 percent and I give back to government the rest,” said Mutharika.

Mutharika then added the DPP government will win the tripartite elections in 2019 for continued development in the country.

Speaking on the convention, Mutharika said the DPP elective Convention has been peaceful, accountable, transparent and outstanding compared to other party conventions Malawi has held.

“First of all let me commend the DPP officials and members for entrusting me to be the torch bearer for DPP in 2019 polls. I have accepted the offer with appreciation. And congratulate everyone who participated in the convention in one way or the other”

“This DPP convention ousted all the two conventions DPP have had in 2009 and 2013 respectively. Besides, the conventions which other parties have had of recent were not as peaceful and transparent as this one. Ours was full of democracy,” Mutharika said.

The President then called for unity in the party saying only love and unity could make the DPP party strong ahead of 2019 elections.

“I encourage those who have win various positions to work extra hard for the benefit of the party. You been elected not for your own good but for the good of the party, so let us go out there and work,” he said.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the US State Security Department, the world super power warns that there is a relative increase in the level of violent crimes and political violence as the country moves towards the watershed July 30 elections.

The American government claims that security is not guaranteed to its citizens who intend to travel to Zimbabwe and those travelling should exercise extreme caution.

“Citizens must not attend any political rallies, demonstrations or any public gatherings as incidents of political violence are reported from these,” the US government warned.

The US warning comes up following a bombing incident at a ZANU PF rally at White City Stadium in Bulawayo on the 23rd of June. Two people were confirmed dead from the incident while 49 were injured including Vice President Kembo Mohadi and cabinet Minister Oppah Muchinguri.

ZimEye.com could not immediately get a Zimbabwean government response on the allegations by the Americans.

“You Don’t Deserve Another 5 Year Mandate”: Zanu Pf Told

Failure to act on corrupt ministers is a clear reflection that the new dispensation is not committed to walking the talk on “restoring legacy” writes 21 year old Patience Nyirenda.

Below is the full text of her Open Letter to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.

I wrote this to you on both myself and many born frees that feel the same as I do.

As born frees most of us have either abstained from voting in previous elections or voted for the opposition.

After the momentous events of November 2017 (Restore Legacy) we went to the streets and celebrated with citizens from across the political spectrum and saluted you and the members of the armed forces that took this bold and incredible step to restore our captured Zimbabwe back to the hands of the citizens.

Many felt that we would be faced with a government of “same same” and when you re appointed many previous ministers to their same posts we felt very let down but gave you the benefit of the doubt and watched.

We saw you re appoint ministers with questionable pasts like Obert Mpofu, Supa Mandiwanzira and Joram Gumbo. The truth is there is no one from the previous regime whose hands are clean, so we accept some had to be left in place but we really thought with the new dispensation there would be a change of heart and ministers would tow the new line.

This we see has been done by the majority of ministers including ones with questions except the likes of Joram Gumbo. Your excellency Gumbo has become front runner of corruption and inefficiency and for some reason Un be known to all of us he seems to enjoy immunity from the presidium and is left to plunder and loot all entities he comes in contact with.

When asking elders in the party or “people close to the system” we are all told to wait till after the election and “ED” will clean things up. We can’t believe this to be true. Are we going to be faced with the same crookery as before restore legacy or are we in for the same situation as before.

Your excellency on the 30th July 2018 me and many of my generation were going to put our X next to your name and that of ZANU PF but your clear protection and ignoring Gumbo with his Air Zimbabwe / Zim Air, NRZ, Geiger, Zinara and the list goes on stealing and plunderinghas made us think twice and rethink giving you and Zanu PF the mandate to govern for another 5 years.

Mthwakazi Proponents Petition Pick And Pay South Africa On Tribalism Allegations

MRP leaders outside Pick and Pay headquarters in South Africa after delivering their petition.

A delegation of Mthwakazi Republic Party, led by party President Mqondisi Moyo on Tuesday handed over a petition to the management of Pick n Pay in Johannesburg.

The delegation included, the national spokesperson Mbonisi Gumbo, national chairperson Mqondisi Ndebele, national organiser Malwande Nyathi, Foreign Affairs Secretary Njabulo Ngwenya and some S.A. executive members.

The Pick n Pay management has officially acknowledged receipt of the petition.

The petition reads as follows:

MTHWAKAZI REPUBLIC PARTY
National Executive Committee

ATT: MANAGEMENT
PICK ‘N PAY – HEAD OFFICE PICK ‘N PAY OFFICE PARK
2 ALLUM ROAD, SOUTH KENSINGTON
JOHANNESBURG
2094
30 June 2018

REF: PETITION TO ATTEND TO TRIBAL ISSUES AT Pick n Pay IN MATABELELAND:
Mthwakazi Republic Party appreciates the investments by Pick n Pay group in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. This largest and consistently successful retail has, however became a liability to the people of Bulawayo and Matabeleland in general, through meddling in tribal politics of the current regime.

It is this unfortunate environment that compels us to petition your company to commit to the following:

* Reinstatement of all affected employees that have been dismissed on tribal grounds.

*Immediate dismissal of your tribal manager, Mr. Livingston Ntini who claims to be an untouchable Zanu PF MP, his supervisors Patel Matoyi, Chiedza Lorraine Mukwize, Reason Mhofu and branch manager Munyazadzi Mudhoni.

*Carry out an investigation into the allegations of institutional tribalism in your Bulawayo and Matabeleland branches.

*Commit to an open employment policy that gives priority to the residents of your territories of operation.

*Reinstate Ndebele managers who were sacked clandestinely, who include Jeremiah Mabhena, Sherpard Msipha and Nhlanhla Mpofu.

Currently, five Bulawayo residents and two former Pick n Pay employees have been arrested and released on bail for demanding justice and good corporate governance from your company.

We will unfortunately come to a point of identifying Pick n Pay as a part of the institutionalized hegemonic and tribal system exercised on the people of Matabeleland. The victimization of our people through your company will force MRP to mobilize for political solutions to this predicament.

We plead with Pick n Pay to commit to the above demands by the 14th of July 2018.

Rugby Africa Apologises To Zimbabwe

Zimbabwean Rugby players sleeping in the street.

Rugby Africa and the Tunisia Rugby Union have apologised to the Zimbabwean national team after they were forced to sleep on the streets of the north African country.

Images have surfaced on social media of the Zimbabwe national team lying and sleeping on the streets in Tunisia, allegedly as a result of appalling accommodation and a lack of funds.

They are due to play Tunisia in a Rugby World Cup qualifier there this weekend.

In a statement released by Rugby Africa on Tuesday, the governing body apologised and said alternative accommodation had been arranged for Zimbabwe.

“We would like to reassure the Zimbabwean Ministry of Sports, Zimbabwe Rugby Union, and all partners and fans that the situation was addressed immediately, and an acceptable solution has been found this morning. Tunisia Rugby Union took the Sables management to visit another hotel which was accepted,” the statement read.

“Rugby Africa and Tunisia Rugby Union would like to express their sincere apologies to the Sables team and management for this unfortunate situation. This does not reflect the standards of the Rugby Africa Gold Cup competition and we sincerely regret any prejudice caused.”

Khaled Babbou, executive member of Rugby Africa, is currently on his way to Beja to inspect the facilities and meet with the Sables team.

He commented: “I apologise on behalf of Tunisia Rugby Union, we pride ourselves in hosting Rugby Africa tournaments every year and make every effort to meet the best international standards in terms of accommodation and other infrastructure.

“Something went wrong for which I am sorry, but this was corrected this morning in consultation with the Sables management team. I can assure you that there was absolutely no intention to destabilise our opponents and we will make every possible effort to ensure they have a good preparation ahead of Saturday’s match.”

The president of Rugby Africa, Abdelaziz Bougja, added: “Our hosting agreements are signed by the six participating unions in the Rugby Africa Gold Cup and are very clear and strict in terms of accommodation standards.

“We rely on our unions to make sure the requirements are met and it is unfortunate that it seemed not to be the case with this hotel in Tunisia. However, Tunisia Rugby Union has our trust, they are long term partners to Rugby Africa, hosting several matches and tournaments on our behalf every year.

“I know for a fact that hospitality matters to them and they have taken this issue very seriously and are rectifying it. Player welfare is at the heart of our preoccupations, so we are not taking this lightly. We wish both teams the best for Saturday’s game.”

Earlier, one of the Zimbabwe players, flank Takudzwa Mandiwanza, told Zimbabwean radio station Capitalk FM that the tour has been a “shambles”.

“We have not been paid our daily allowances for our duration in Kenya, including our match fees that we did not receive. Now we’re in Tunisia, we were detained at the airport for close to six hours, with no allowances given to us.”

He added that coach Peter de Villiers had bought the players sandwiches and drinks out of his own pocket.

“We’d be hungry right now. The situation is very frustrating and disheartening.”

Shocking Pictures Of Zimbabwe Rugby Team Sleeping Like “Rats” On The Street

By Paul Nyathi|The Zimbabwean men’s senior rugby team has spent a night in the streets of Tunisia ahead of their Rugby World Cup qualifier encounter due to bundling on their travel arrangements.

Former Minister of Education David Coltart broke the news on his Facebook page on Tuesday morning.

Our national rugby team the Sables are being treated in the most appalling way in Tunisia. They have been forced to sleep on the streets as the accommodation they were provided with is disgusting.

On arrival they spent 6 hours held up at border and the authorities have taken their passports claiming they need to pay for visas amounting to 600 euro which they cant pay as they dont have funds. Most team members only had 2 hours sleep last night. The ZRU board appear to have done nothing about the situation along with the SRC. Coach De Villiers and the managers are on the street with the players.

Come on Zimbabwe. How can we allow a national team, our flag carriers, to be treated like this?

What is the Minister of Sport doing about this? Can our nearest ambassador help? Trudy Stevenson – can you?

It is time to restore our national pride.

Ncube Says, Its MDC Alliance Vs ZANU PF, Others Wasting Time

MDC president Professor Welshman Ncube addresses MDC Alliance supporters at a rally held in Mahatshula, Bulawayo.

MDC Alliance spokesperson Professor Welshman Ncube has said the real contest in the forthcoming harmonised elections is between Zanu-PF and the MDC Alliance, describing other parties as a bridal team.

Addressing an MDC Alliance rally in Bulawayo’s Mahatshula suburb on Sunday, Prof Ncube, who is also the MDC president, compared the coming election to a wedding.

He said in this instance Zanu-PF and the MDC Alliance were the groom and the bride.

Prof Ncube said other political players, whom he described as the bridal team, would not make a difference in the polls.

“When going to a wedding, you are invited by the bride and the groom. Don’t be fooled by the bridal team, no matter how smart they are. The real contest in the coming election is between MDC Alliance and Zanu-PF. All these other parties are just the bridal team. It’s not their ceremony,” he said.

Prof Ncube said the electorate should not be fooled by overnight political parties who will sink into oblivion after the polls.

He said it was senseless that Bulawayo is having 204 candidates contesting for 12 Parliamentary seats in the province.

“In Bulawayo we’ve 204 people who want to be MPs in Bulawayo’s 12 constituencies. Bulawayo has fewer constituencies than any other province in the country. But it has the highest number of individuals wanting to be MPs. It has an average of 17 candidates per constituency,” he said.

“Could this be hunger? Even if its hunger, people you can’t be that hungry. The stampede means that no one wants to lead and fix, instead they want to go and eat. Some of them we have never heard of them. We just saw them on nomination day and you want to vote for them? You want to vote for names that you’ve never heard of before.”

At the rally, he also introduced the MDC Alliance parliamentary and council candidates for Bulawayo East constituency.

Messi Fan Commits Suicide After World Cup Exit

Lionel Messi

By Paul Nyathi|A 20-year-old Messi and Argentina fan from India, committed suicide in Habibpur which is in West Bengal’s Malda district after the Albicelestes went down 4-3 to France in the Round of 16 of the ongoing World Cup in Russia.

Halder, an ardent Messi fan, was heartbroken after his favourite team’s ouster from the elite competition. He skipped dinner on Saturday night and went off to sleep locking the doors of his bedroom.

On Sunday morning, even after several attempts when he did not open the door, the police was informed. The door was breached by the police and Halder’s dead body was found hanging from the ceiling.

“My son had no illness. He was an Argentina fan and every day he used to remain glued to the TV since the world cup had started. He was distraught after Argentina’s loss to France. But we never thought he would do something like this,” said Mongol Halder, father of the deceased.

Meanwhile, Malda police have started a probe. “We are investigating the case. It seems that he has committed suicide since Argentina lost in the world cup,” said the police.

Another incident of suicide had been earlier reported from Kerala when a 30-year-old’s body was recovered from of a nearby river in Kottayam. The youth had penned a suicide letter and went missing after Argentina’s humiliating 3-0 defeat against Croatia on June 21.

Both Kerala and West Bengal are footballing hotbeds of India and South American countries like Brazil and Argentina are hugely popular among the masses.

“ZEC continues to manipulate the 2018 election,” MDC Alliance

Statement by Jameson Timba MDC Alliance Presidential candidate Chief Election Agent:

We are disgusted and utterly dismayed by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s continued manipulation of the election in clear violation of the law, the constitution and complete disregard for transparency and fair play.

This morning, I met with the ZEC chairperson to raise import issues pertaining to the management of the election. She has failed to provide answers on the critical issues.
ZEC has in a space of a few days committed or omitted the following acts that go to the heart of transparency and ultimately the credibility of the election.

1.Despite assurances and announcing that ZEC was going to provide the true and accurate BVR Voters’ Roll as a pdf file, no such Roll is being provided. The real question is why is ZEC deliberately lying to the world or is ZEC actually lying or perhaps just handicapped to implement its own decision?

a. ZEC has refused to avail the Voter’s Roll as required by Law

b. ZEC has refused an independent audit of the Voter’s Roll because they know it is illegitimate

c. Our own random audit has unearthed scandalous and embarrassing details on the Voter’s Roll.

d. We have discovered some of the oldest people on our Voters’ Roll aged around 150 years old who don’t exist

e. We have discovered many houses that have tens of people registered but the houses do not exist

f. We have discovered many people with the same IDs

g. We have discovered many people with same IDs for different faces of people

2. Despite assurances that political parties were going to be allowed to observe the printing of ballot papers; ZEC invited parties to the printers three days after the printing had already commenced. Further no observation was allowed but instead parties were just pointed, at a distance, through glasses of the purported printing process i.e.

a. no printed ballot paper was inspected

b. the actual quality and features of the ballot paper are not known other than a blank sample.

Khupe Slaps Chamisa With $1,8mln Lawsuit

“Thokozani Khupe was fired by Parliament and she doesn’t have any MPs on what basis is she is now claiming the money from Parliament. Mai ava vakutodhunya”

By Farai D Hove| THE RENEGADE and expelled former deputy president of the MDC-T Thokozani Khupe has sued her former boss, Nelson Chamisa for $1,8 million.

This was after Chamisa withdrew his court case in which he was suing her over using the party name, MDC-T.

Following the development Khupe’s deputy Obert Gutu has said “this shows that we are the legitimate MDC-T.”

He said “the legitimate, lawful and constitutional MDC-T led by Hon. Dr. Thokozani Khupe, has instructed our lawyers to institute legal action to recover the sum of $1,8 million that was improperly and fraudulently paid to our erstwhile comrades in terms of the Political Parties (Finance) Act.”

But the Chamisa group told the US based VOA, the Khupe faction is daydreaming.

Stanford Mukasa, publicity and information secretary of the MDC-USA Assembly, told VOA Studio 7 that “they are wasting their time as this won’t even win them an election.”

Khupe and Chamisa have been fighting over the control of the party following the death of MDC founding president Morgan Tsvangirai early this year.

The MDC Deputy Treasurer General, Chalton Hwende also waded in saying,
“Thokozani Khupe was fired by Parliament and she doesn’t have any MPs on what basis is she is now claiming the money from Parliament. Mai ava vakutodhunya”

BOMB ATTACK: Criminal Attempts To Blow Up Njelele Shrine

By Terrence Mawawa| There was an attempt to blow up the Njelele shrine at the weekend.

Sources in the area say that there was an attack on the Shrine the first of it’s kind since independence 1980.

The shrine, located just outside Matobo Park, has been host to many local spirtualists seeking pilgrimage here.

The motive for the attack was not clear at the time of writing.

Journalist and CITES founder, Zenzele Ndebele also added saying, “some unknown assailant tried to blow up the Njelele shrine over the weekend using dynamite.

Ndebele added saying “they also went into the cave and blew up all the cultural relics.

“What kind of a person would want to destroy such a place.I thought it was only ISIS which has such kind of thinking,” he said.

Khupe Takes Chamisa To Court on $1.8m Party Funds

Dr Thokozani Khupe

The Thokozani Khupe led MDC-T faction says it has instructed its attorneys to institute legal proceedings against the Nelson Chamisa-led MDC-T to recover $1.8 million allocated to the party under the Political Parties (Finance) Act.

According to the party’s deputy president, Obert Gutu, this follows the withdrawal of a court case in which the Chamisa group was seeking an order to stop the Khupe faction from using the party name and logo.

The Chamisa MDC-T wants the case to be on the common court roll instead of being handled by the courts as an urgent matter.

In response to the move, Gutu said “this shows that we are the legitimate MDC-T.”

He noted that as a result, “The legitimate, lawful and constitutional MDC-T led by Hon. Dr. Thokozani Khupe, has instructed our lawyers to institute legal action to recover the sum of $1,8 million that was improperly and fraudulently paid to our erstwhile comrades in terms of the Political Parties (Finance) Act.”

WHAT’S GOING ON NOW? ZEC Rubbishes Chamisa On Ballot Paper Printing Transparency

Priscilla Chigumba on 26th June

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) yesterday dismissed claims by the MDC Alliance that the design of the ballot for the presidential candidates for the July 30 elections favours the incumbent, President Mnangagwa. In a statement yesterday, ZEC chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba also rapped some political parties, saying their demands to be close to the ballot printing machines in a high security area was an abuse of the right to transparency.

Justice Chigumba’s statement followed complaints by MDC Alliance presidential candidate Mr Nelson Chamisa’s chief election agent Mr Jameson Timba, who claimed that the design of the presidential ballot where President Mnangagwa is the first on the second column favoured him ahead of other candidates.

Addressing journalists at the party headquarters, Mr Timba alleged that they had failed to observe the printing process.

He claimed that they were left at a balcony 20 metres away from where printing was taking place. Justice Chigumba said the Constitution empowered ZEC to have the sole responsibility on the designing, printing and distribution of the ballot paper.

“According to Section 239(g) of the Constitution, the designing and printing and distribution of ballot papers are the sole responsibility of ZEC,” she said. “Anyone else other than ZEC demanding to be involved in these functions directly or indirectly is deemed by the commission as one attempting to usurp the powers and independence of the electoral management body.

“However, the Multi-Party Liaison Committee is currently tasked with building consensus around this area. To enhance transparency in the electioneering process, the law also compels the commission to publish the name of the ballot paper printer and the number of ballots printed. This will be done at the conclusion of the printing process.”

Justice Chigumba dismissed claims by the MDC Alliance that over 400 people on the biometric voters’ register shared the same residential address in Chitungwiza.

“The stand number 100086 Unit G, Chitungwiza, alluded to by some press reports is in fact a church shrine with 122 voters, which is contrary to some press reports that it has 400 voters,” she said.

“We urge all stakeholders to report responsibly and conduct themselves in a manner that promotes peace and tranquillity in the electoral process. We urge all stakeholders to verify their information before going public.

“After all, the right to reply is a tenet of responsible reporting. It should be noted that through the use of affidavits, a residential address can have many registered voters.”

On accessing the printing process by political parties, Justice Chigumba said while there were no legal obligations compelling the election management body to invite stakeholders, they did so in the spirit of promoting transparency.

“In the spirit of transparency and stakeholder engagement, the commission invited stakeholders, including representatives of all political parties contesting presidential elections, local and foreign observers, embassies, as well as civic society and faith-based organisations to witness ballot paper printing at Fidelity Printers last Friday,” said Justice Chigumba.

“However, the commission noted with concern demands by some political parties to get very close to the printing machines which are located in an area with high security documents belonging to other clients. The commission views such demands as an abuse of the right to transparency.”

Mr Timba complained at the MDC Alliance press conference that the manner in which the presidential ballot was designed benefited Zanu-PF presidential candidate Cde Mnangagwa.

“We are made to understand that they have come up with a design specifically to benefit one candidate in the name of President Emmerson Mnangagwa,” he said.
“They have looked at 23 candidates and have created two columns and number 1 up to 14 and number 15 starts at the second column.

“By designing and laying out the ballot that way, they are ensuring that (President) Mnangagwa, presidential candidate for Zanu-PF, becomes the number one candidate on the second column. This is obviously discriminatory. By approving such a design, ZEC has behaved in a biased manner that all Zimbabwean candidates sitting on that ballot are less important to (President) Emmerson Mnangagwa.”

On postal voting, which closed on June 28, Justice Chigumba said they received 7 200 applications and were currently processing them.

“However, this does not mean that all the applications will be considered as some of them may not be on the voters’ roll,” she said.

“If the commission is satisfied that the applicant is entitled to a postal vote, the Chief Elections Officer shall issue a postal ballot paper to the applicant by placing it in an envelope addressed to the applicant.”- state media

Zhakata Who Praised Tsvangirai Donates 300 Trees On Own Birthday

Tree donation on birthday
While birthdays are celebrated in different ways, musician Leonard Zhakata has donated 300 trees to eight schools in Kadoma as part of his golden jubilee celebrations.
The Mugove hit-maker turned 50 on June 25.

“I have decided to celebrate my birthday by playing my small part on the Friends of the Environment Group (FOTE) initiative, to give away fruit trees and eucalyptus seedlings to schools and interested organisations in and around Kadoma.

“Fruits are nature’s marvellous gift to the humankind; indeed, they are life-enhancing medicines packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and many phytonutrients (Plant-derived micronutrients). They are an absolute feast to our sight, not just because of their colour and flavour but of their unique nutrient profile that helps the human body be fit, rejuvenate, and free of diseases,” said Zhakata.

Zhakata is a partner of the FOTE, a not-for-profit organisation of like-minded individuals and corporate entities championing the re-greening of Zimbabwe through tree planting.

The initiative was pioneered by Nyaradzo Group in July 2010 when they started planting a tree with every burial they did, culminating in the registration of FOTE as a trust in November 2010. It targets to plant 500 million trees by 2026.

Zhakata chose schools as children are the future of any given society.
“Children are the future and they need to have a culture of caring for the environment for a better tomorrow,” he said.

After the donation, Zhakata went on to share the stage with Peter Moyo and Mostaff at Odyssey Hotel in Kadoma on Saturday.

Born in 1968, Zhakata became the youngest Zimbabwean musician to sell more than 100 000 copies of an album at the age of 26 after his smash hit Maruva Enyika sold more than 120 000 copies.

The historic album Maruva Enyika in 1994 propelled Zhakata to stardom and since then he remained consistent as a force to reckon with in the showbiz.

Back in the day, the Zora maestro made waves in music industry with trademark glittering outfits, a type of dressing that was peculiar to himself and his band.

His popular songs over the years include Unochemei, Vagoni Vebasa, Upenyu Mutoro, Nzombe Huru, Zvangu Zvaita, Dhonza Makomborero and Madam Boss just to mention but a few.

In 2016, Zhakata clinched the top three positions on Radio Zimbabwe Coca-Cola Top 50 a feat which made him walk away with the entire $6 000 prize money on offer. – Daily News

ED Says He’s Repatriated $850mln

President Emmerson Mnangagwa says a total of $850 million has been repatriated back in Zimbabwe through the measures put in place by the new political dispensation to fight corruption.

With only seven months since the advent of the new political dispensation in Zimbabwe, President Mnangagwa has already demonstrated his commitment in fighting corruption through various strategies which began when he declared a three month moratorium to those involved in illicit financial transfers that have prejudiced the country of billions of United States dollars.

After the moratorium deadline expired another month was given to allow those who had faced challenges to comply, after which a name and shame list of companies and individuals who had not complied was published in the media.

Steps are now being taken to bring to book through the courts those who have failed to account for their illicit external financial transfers.

In his contribution to the 31st African Union (AU) Summit theme entitled, “Winning the Fight against Corruption-A Sustainable Path to Africa’s Transformation” in Mauritania, President Mnangagwa said from Day 1 of the new dispensation in Zimbabwe, government prioritised the fight against corruption and established special anti-corruption courts and made it mandatory for ministers to declare their assets as well as establishing a new Anticorruption Prosecution Unit within his office and the enactment of the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act.

Besides the new initiatives by the new dispensation, Zimbabwe adopted the convention on preventing and combating corruption which has been ratified by 40 countries.

Zimbabwe has also signed and domesticated SADC, AU and UN legal instruments meant to fight the scourge of corruption and it honours the reporting obligations including to the AU board on corruption.

President Mnangagwa said the country also has an anti-corruption commission which serves as a whistle blower highlighting and exposing cases of corruption, adding that corruption networks are becoming more and more complicated, hence the need to enhance information sharing amongst member states and their law enforcement agencies and related institutions on the continent and beyond.

He called on governments, the private sector and civil society to play their part in the fight against corruption saying that is a battle that African governments must win.

He paid tribute to Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari for championing the AU theme – “Winning the Fight against Corruption-A Sustainable Path to Africa’s Transformation”.

While most of the African countries spoke of the various constitutional bodies that they have put in place to fight corruption, it appears the cancer is on the increase with the illicit flows amounting to US$50 billion annually.

The speakers were the Presidents of Algeria, Mozambique, Morocco, Burkina Faso, Egypt, and Botswana among others.- state media

CAR ACCIDENT: Former ZANU PF Youth League Boss Nearly Killed

in hospital…Absalom Sikhosana
ZANU-PF Politburo member Absalom Sikhosana (69) narrowly escaped death after a vehicle sped over a kerb dividing a road and collided head-on with his along Khami Road in Bulawayo.

The driver of the other vehicle, a South African registered Toyota Hilux, identified as Collen Gift Nyathi (37) died on the spot following the horrific crash on Saturday just after midnight.

As traffic police officers attended the scene another vehicle rammed into Sikhosana’s Nissan NP300 vehicle and its driver, Mr Gerald Moyo (28) sustained serious injuries. Mr Moyo was rushed to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) where he is under intensive care.

Around 10pm and before the two incidents, Sikhosana had hit a push cart vendor with his vehicle before rushing him to Mpilo Central Hospital. Sikhosana was later rushed to the same hospital where he is still admitted.

The Chronicle yesterday caught up with the former Youth League boss who narrated how “an exciting day” turned out to be “near fatal” for him.

He said the day began well as he attended the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission meeting where July 30 elections’ candidates were urged to conduct themselves in a manner that promotes free and fair elections.

Sikhosana said he later attended Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube’s campaign launch in Makokoba before visiting victims of the recent White City Stadium bombing who are still admitted at Mpilo Central Hospital.

He said as he left the hospital a series of unfortunate incidents befell him, resulting in him returning to the same facility as a patient.

“When I left the hospital, I tried to evade traffic congestion by driving along Basch Street to connect to the city centre by driving past Manor Hotel.

However, near Manor Hotel a man pushing a push-cart swerved towards my car. I tried to avoid him but unfortunately I hit the push cart and it hit him and injured him in the process,” he said.

Sikhosana said he took the injured man to Mpilo Central Hospital where he left him being attended.

He said he took away his push cart so that he could leave it at the injured man’s home.

Sikhosana said while he was driving to the western suburbs along Old Khami Road, near Khami Cafe he was involved in the head-on collision that left the other driver dead.

“While driving along the dual carriage way on my side of the road, a car from the opposite direction suddenly jumped the road division and flew towards my car. I could not do anything to avoid a collision,” said Sikhosana.

He said he is not sure of what happened next, as he only remembered being assisted into an ambulance while some women were being pulled out of the other car.

Sikhosana said he later learnt that the driver of the other vehicle had died on the spot.

He said while at Mpilo Central Hospital where he had just got an X-ray examination, he was informed that another vehicle had rammed into his car as it was being towed away.

Prior to the accidents, ClSikhosana survived a bomb blast at White City Stadium on June 23 that was targeted at President Mnangangwa.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango confirmed the accidents.

She urged motorists and the public to exercise caution on the roads. Meanwhile, police in the city are investigating two fatal hit-and-run accidents.

Insp Simango said the bodies are still unclaimed at UBH mortuary.

“The first accident occurred on June 22, at about 8PM along Khami Road opposite the Ministry of Transport Stores, Bulawayo.

“The now deceased is a male adult, light in complexion, approximately 25-years-old, 1,6 metres in height. He was wearing a black jacket written Creamy Inn on the front right breast, brown long sleeved shirt, navy blue trousers, black shoes and white socks, and a red hat written Telecel. He was carrying a black satchel containing a blue church crown with white belts,” she said.

The second accident happened along Intemba Road near Inzwananzi Primary School on June 25 at around 12AM.

“The now deceased is a male adult who could be between 26 and 35-years-old and 1,7 metres in height. He was wearing green trousers, grey jacket with green stripes, black T-shirt, brown shoes and grey jersey.

“He was carrying a white sack containing blue jeans, black cap, orange sun hat, black jacket written rugby on the left breast, black jacket written Nautica Competition and black plain jacket,” said Insp Simango.

“Anyone with information or missing relative with the above description should contact Bulawayo traffic west Inspector Mubwere on (09) 412953 or (09) 402551 or any nearest police station,” she said.- state media

Chihuri Sued For $45K Debt

Augustine Chihuri one of his picture moments a few months before the coup
Former Police Commissioner-General Dr Augustine Chihuri has been taken to the High Court for failing to pay a water bill amounting to $44 984.

Dr Chihuri consumed water at his Inyika Farm in Shamva, but failed to pay for it.

That prompted the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) to sue him at the High Court.

Zinwa is also claiming interest plus costs of the suit.

Chirenje Legal Practitioners are acting for Zinwa in the matter. Zinwa, a body empowered to administer all water in Zimbabwe, entered into an agreement with the ex-police boss to supply raw water at his farm for a fee.

Water was sold and delivered to Inyika Farm on the agreement that Dr Chihuri would pay for it monthly. “In breach of the agreement, the defendant failed and or neglected to make due and punctual payment for all monthly charges.

“The cumulative amount due to the plaintiff by the defendant for the water charges is the sum of $44 894,24, which amount is due and payable,” reads the plaintiff’s declaration.
The breach of agreement, according to the water authority, attracts an order for costs at a punitive scale.

“The defendant’s breach had unnecessarily caused the plaintiff to incur legal costs to recover the amount owing. The defendant must, therefore, pay the plaintiff’s costs of suit on an attorney-and-client scale,” reads the declaration.

Dr Chihuri is yet to respond to the civil claim at the High Court.- state media

MDC Alliance Calls On ZEC To Stop Ballot Paper Printing

Addressing journalists in the capital Harare (Monday), MDC Alliance Presidential Candidate Chief Elections Agent, Jameson Timba accused the ZEC of continuously manipulating the 2018 election in favour of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Zanu Pf.

Unless the Zimbabwe Electoral commission is stopped, there is no chance of a free, fair, credible and legitimate election taking place on the 30th of July 2018.

ZEC has been indicating left and turning right at every junction. The real questions are: why is ZEC, a Constitutional Body that is supposed to be independent acting in this manner? Is ZEC actually in charge of this election? Is all the reneging on agreements and assurances not because ZEC has no power to carry out its operations? Who is running ZEC, then?

I have flagged these issues with our Principal President Chamisa. This election cannot happen under these conditions.

In conclusion, we are sure Zimbabweans will not be railroaded into a sham election to sanitise an illegitimate election meant to steal their hope.

Hon. Jameson Timba
Chief Election Agent for President Nelson

By Own Correspondent| The MDC Alliance has called on the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to temporarily stop printing the ballot papers and address the grievances of aggrieved partners if the country is to hold credible, free and fair elections.

MDC Alliance Presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa’s Chief Elections Agent Jameson Timba said failure by ZEC to urgently respond to the concerns of his party would see the country failing to hold the much expected harmonised polls on July 30.

Below is the full text of the statement by Timba.

ZEC continues to manipulate the 2018 election

“We Never Observed Ballot Printing”: MDC Alliance Reminds ZEC

By Talent Gondo| Opposition political parties contesting the forthcoming polls under the MDC Alliance have accused the country’s elections body, ZEC of paying lip service to transparency and accountability on the electoral process especially the printing of the ballot papers.

MDC Alliance Presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa’s  Chief Elections Agent, Jameson Timba today (Monday) denied media reports that opposition political parties witnessed the printing of the presidential ballot paper last week accusing ZEC of merely playing a formality as they allowed them to observe the printing process from a 20 metre distance.

Timba said this at a press conference at Morgan Tsvangirai House in the capital Harare.

“ZEC is lying that political parties witnessed the printing of the ballot paper. Yes of course we were called to go to the Fidelity Printers. Upon arrival, we were held in a room divided by a glass and then pointed to a machine which was 20 meters away.

What we did cannot be called observing. We do not know what kind of a paper is being used. This is not being fair if I am to comment. Who knows what they are planning by hiding all this from us,” asked Timba.

Timba said there was no transparency on the printing of the ballot paper adding that the process should be stopped.

“The printing of the ballot papers can  be done within a short space of time as long as there is consensus……and this can be done in neighbouring South Africa,” said Timba.

He said the MDC Alliance had held a meeting earlier on in the day with the ZEC but the elections body had not given them good answers promising to get back to them as soon as possible.

“Fidelity Printers is not independent and the institution cannot be trusted since it is controlled and owned by President Emmerson Mnangagwa,” said Timba.

Efforts to get a comment from ZEC were futile.

Bank Applies For Civil Imprisonment On Mukupe On Another Debt

By Paul Nyathi
|Trust Bank a registered financial institution has applied for the High Court to inflict civil imprisonment on Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Development Terrence Mukupe.

According to a court roll, Mukupe is set to appear in the court soon over an undisclosed outstanding amount.

Civil imprisonment is when a person fails to pay their debts and have nothing of value that can be recovered to offset the debt, either because they have hidden their assets or they have nothing to attach.

Trust Bank joins a host of other institutions that have gone to the courts to recover their debts from the deputy minister. Steward Bank recently applied for a similar civil imprisonment claim against Mukupe over a debt of $100 000.

Opposition parties have continuously questioned how Mukupe has managed to remain in the Ministry of Finance when he is failing to manage his personal finances.

Khupe Working In Our Favour – ZANU PF Official

By A Correspondent| The expelled MDC renegade, Thokozani Khupe is working in ZANU PF’s favour, a top official has indicated.

Writing on his microblogging portal, ZANU PF UK leader Nick Mangwana said “there is the Linda Masarira factor” which is working in ZANU PF’s favour for number-tilting.

He used the figures of the 2013 elections  to show that  zanu PF could easily win  by mere virtue of the Khupe breakaway faction’s straining the numbers.  Below was the tweet –

Will Independent Candidates Dominate 2018 Polls?

Terrence Mawawa

The selection of Parliamentarians and councillors on the basis of political affiliation is now a thing of the past, according to political analysts.

In Masvingo Urban Constituency, independent candidates for both House of Assembly and local government elections are enjoying massive support from the electorate and they are likely to turn the traditional political former book upside down.

Independent aspiring MP for Masvingo Urban Constituency, Sam Chapfudza yesterday said:

“I believe in honesty, transparency and determination.

This election is about development and economic empowerment.”

Independent aspiring candidate for ward 7 Masvingo Urban Constituency Edson Chivurukute also said:”My vision is to introduce empowerment programmes and sustainable income generating projects for women and youths.”

Mobile Data Cost Slashed To 5 cents per mb. MISA Analyses Whether this is Truly Affordable

By MISA| Last week POTRAZ and the Ministry of ICT and Cyber Security announced an almost 60% reduction in out-of-bundle mobile data.

This was welcomed as a progressive move that would promote Internet access in the country. With effect from 1 July 2018 out-of-bundle mobile data will be going for 5 cents per megabyte. This short article seeks to determine whether this revised rate is affordable and what the reduction will mean for the average consumer.

Internet access has become an important part of social and professional life. It is, therefore, normal that in Zimbabwe the bulk of communication occurs via Internet-based services such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Skype, and general email.

The amount of Internet access in any specific place relies on a number of factors such as network infrastructure, availability of power, and most importantly the cost of accessing the Internet. POTRAZ sector performance reports consistently show that the majority of Internet users in Zimbabwe access the Internet by means of mobile devices, usually mobile phones, and tablets.

The high uptake of instant messaging applications such as WhatsApp and Facebook has increased demand for mobile data in Zimbabwe. This high demand for instant messaging and social media services have directly influenced how mobile network operators package and sell their mobile data.

It is cheaper for a consumer to buy a social media bundle that only gives access to WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter or a combination of social media services. On average, consumers across Zimbabwe’s three Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) pay an average of $5 for a 30-day social media bundle. The cost of these social media bundles remains unchanged by the reduction announced last week.

Other services such as email and general websites are not accessible through mobile data bundles.  A consumer must, therefore, buy mobile data at out-of-bundle rates that are far more expensive when compared to bundled data. A natural consequence of the current pricing regime is that the majority of consumers will opt for bundled data as opposed to the more expensive out-of-bundle data.

This means the reduction in out-of-bundle data will not benefit as many consumers as initially thought because most consumers do not use out-of-bundle data anyway.

The discussions around the price reduction also showed how hard it is to measure the affordability of Internet access. One common way is to take a comparative look at what other countries in the region charge for mobile data.

An example of such a comparative approach is the RIA Africa Mobile Pricing Indices (RAMP). According to RAMP, Zimbabwe has the fourth most expensive mobile data in Africa. This is based on the average cost of $30 for 1 gigabyte of out-of-bundle data.

One major disadvantage with the comparative approach is that it does not cater to unique market forces that determine the cost of mobile data within the different countries compared in the research.

For example, Zimbabwe’s MNOs state that the reason their mobile data prices are high is that they are still paying off their network capitalisation costs. The case is probably different for MNOs in more developed African countries.

The Alliance for Affordable Internet (A4AI) has come up with a formula that caters to each country’s unique conditions. The A4AI argues that Internet is affordable if 1GB of mobile out-of-bundle broadband data is priced at 2% or less of average monthly income.

If for example, the Zimbabwean average monthly income is $400 a month, then 1 gigabyte of mobile data must cost less than $8. Under the new data price regime, 1 gigabyte of out-of-bundle data will cost a minimum of $50. This is much higher than the A4AI threshold, a clear indicator that Zimbabwean mobile data is still exorbitant.

MISA Zimbabwe has in its engagement with government and POTRAZ always pushed for the reduction of Internet access costs. The current reduction in out-of-bundle data is a positive step, but MISA urges the government to act on the price of bundled data which is more widely used than out-of-bundle data.

Limiting the reduction of mobile data only to a specific class of data that is only used by a minority of the market will not improve Internet access in any significant and meaningful way.

BREAKING – Chamisa Party Set To Boycott Elections…If ZEC

By A Correspondent|  The Nelson Chamisa led MDC has announced it is set to boycott the upcoming elections due to mal-practices by the Zimbabwe electoral commission.

This was made known by senior party official, Mr. Jameson Timba Monday morning at the party’s headquarters.

He was being grilled on the sidelines of their presser.

(see timeline 32.00 to 35:00)

Said Timba, “we are calling a special meeting (musangano) with other parties. If vaMnangagwa as another candidate is allowing this…I believe his party will also attend that meeting. In that same meeting we will take up one request and take it up…

“Tati izvi kana zvisina kugadziriswa izvi, musi wa 30 July kunenge kusina election…my young brother, we said if these things are not fixed on the 30th July there will be no election. There is no communication in Shona that is clearer than what I have told you my young brother.”

Chamisa Withdraws MDC-T Name Case From Court

Name winner, Thokozani Khupe

Splinter Dr Thokozani Khupe led MDC-T Deputy President Obert Gutu reports that the mainstream MDC-T led by advocate Nelson Chamisa has withdrawn from the High Court roll the matter against leaders of the splinter group on the use of the MDC-T name.

According to Gutu, the withdrawal makes the Khupe led splinter the genuine MDC-T which Chamisa was contesting.

Gutu wrote on his Facebook page on Monday shortly after the court sitting.

Our erstwhile comrades,h ave this morning i.e.Monday.July 02,2018, applied to have their matter against Thokozani Khupe, Obert Gutu and Abednico Bhebhe removed from the High Court roll. The matter was heard before Honourable Justice Dube in chambers.

Our lead Counsel, Professor Lovemore Madhuku, consented to the matter being removed from the roll with costs being in the cause, because, essentially, our erstwhile comrades have thrown in the towel and realized that their case against the three (3) of us was ill-advised and unwinnable. Our erstwhile comrades were represented by Advocate Thabani Mpofu.

What this essentially means is that the MDC-T led by Hon.Dr.Thokozani Khupe continues as the legitimate and lawful MDC-T.

Chiefs Granted Peace Order Against Obert Mpofu

Obert Mpofu

Three chiefs here have been granted a peace order against Home Affairs minister Obert Mpofu and nine others they accuse of unleashing a reign of terror against them.

The trio — Felix Nhlanhla Ndiweni, Neville Ndondo and Deli Asher Mabhena — allege the minister was throwing spanners into their work and social life.

Some of the respondents cited as respondents by the traditional leaders include Zanu PF provincial chair who is also the Umguza aspiring MP Richard Moyo, David Moyo, Moses Siphuma, Jonathan Sibanda, Remigious Kombani, and Beverly Sibanda, among others.

Yesterday, magistrate Adelaide Mbeure ruled in favour of the chiefs, immediately stopping Mpofu from interfering with their works.

“I hereby order that the respondents should cease to threaten the applicants in any way and not communicate in any way that is threatening abusive and vulgar. Respondents should hold their peace towards the applicants,” Mbeure ruled.

In their court application, the chiefs — represented by lawyer Dumisani Dube of Mathonsi Ncube Law Chambers — accused Mpofu of targeting them.

“The first respondent ‘Mpofu’ who is local member of Parliament and minister of Home affairs has abused his office and authority by constantly throwing spanners into the chiefs’ work using his agents and thugs who include the second to the tenth respondents,” Ndiweni said.

“He has verbally attacked the applicants in various political and social fora at York House in Bulawayo and in Umguza District. Sometime back he sent bandits of thugs and hoodlums to harass and torment the applicants and villagers who refuse to dabble in his succession politics,” he said.

Ndiweni further noted that through his direct control of 17 out of the 19 wards in Umguza District, Mpofu intimidated and harassed the applicants through “derogatory insults, threat of violence, abduction and extermination as he is a feared and very powerful politician”.

He also indicated that attempts to report the minister to police had yielded nothing “as police officers are afraid of the politics”.

Ndiweni concluded: “I accordingly, implore this court to order the respondents to stop threats against our lives or being abusive to us. Respondents must also stop using vulgar language towards us or inciting threats death or harm to us.”

“If you do not vote for me, Mugabe will do so.” Chamisa

Nelson Chamisa addressing the rally in Mvurwi

By Paul Nyathi|Opposition MDC Alliance presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa has declared that he has the full backing of former President Robert Mugabe and is assured of his vote in the upcoming elections.

Addressing thousands of his party supporters in Mvurwi Mashonaland Central province over the weekend, the youthful opposition presidential aspirant disclosed that the former Zanu PF strongman Mugabe had endorsed his candidature.

“How can we lose an election to a disjointed ruling party? Mugabe pledged to vote for me. So if you do not vote for me, Mugabe will do so. Hence, if I happen to lose, I will know that it is you, not Mugabe, since I already have his vote,” he told the rally.

Chamisa also called on Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga to take a break from politics, saying the former military commander had failed to find his feet in the country’s fast-shifting political terrain.

“Chiwenga is a military man. He should relax and leave us the young people to govern the country. Recently, he said people of Zimbabwe should not worry about cash. Honestly, how can he say that cash is not important? Give me a chance in government and enjoy life,” Chamisa pleaded.

He took the opportunity to endorse MDC-T aspiring legislator Tulani Ndlovu ahead of MDC Alliance candidate Tinashe Muchenje.

“We know you had problems with your candidates here, but we have seen that Ndlovu is more popular and with him, we are assured of winning the seat. He stands a better chance against the incumbent MP Martin Dinha (Zanu PF),” he said.

ZANU PF Says MDC Has No Right To Challenge Mnangagwa On Chiefs

MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa

By Paul Nyathi|President Mnangagwa and the ruling Zanu-PF have told the High Court that the Nelson Chamisa led MDC-T has no legal right to challenge the electoral processes as the party is not taking part in the elections.

The party said this responding to an MDC court application seeking to compel the ruling party from alleged interferrence with the independence of traditional leaders ahead of the harmonised election.

Advocate Lewis Uriri of the Temple Bar (Inns of court) instructed by Mr Aston Musunga are representing the President and the ruling party in the matter.

The lawyers argued that the Chamisa-led MDC party had no locus standi to file the election-related challenge because it did not register to participate in the forthcoming election. Only the MDC-T led by Dr Thokozani Khupe and the MDC Alliance led by Chamisa are participants in the elections.

“The fact is that, for purposes of the election in issue, it (MDC) has not registered its intention to participate,” the lawyers said.

“Only two parties with the prefix “MDC” have indicated their participation. These are the MDC-T led by Dr Khupe and MDC Alliance led by Mr Chamisa.

“The applicant (MDC) is neither of these. It clearly has no interest in the election in its capacity as a participant.”

The respondents further argued that the MDC just filed a frivolous application to lay the basis for filing of petitions after the elections.

“The second object is to create one of several intended bases for election petitions after the applicant’s demise at the forthcoming polls,” reads the response.

An order has since been issued against Chief Fortune Charumbira and the Chief’s Council in another High Court matter, to stop meddling in politics, but the MDC last week filed a fresh application seeking almost the same order.

The Chamisa-led MDC party argued that President Mnangagwa had early last month urged his party’s candidates in the harmonised elections scheduled for July 30, to offer trinkets to chiefs and traditional leaders to procure their support in the elections.

The opposition party argued that President Mnangagwa’s utterances, which were made on June 9, 2018 to Zanu-PF party supporters in Mutoko in Mashonaland East province, motivated some ruling party members to engage in corrupt practices for the purposes of vote buying ahead of the elections.

Shebeen Child In School Explicit Video

TWO pupils from Inyanda Secondary School in Bulawayo’s Gwabalanda suburb are in trouble after a steamy video with sexual acts that was seemingly recorded behind classroom blocks at the school leaked and has gone viral.

Bulawayo Provincial Education Director Mrs Olicah Kaira said she saw the video and they were investigating the matter.

“I can confirm that there is video of two pupils suspected to be from one of our schools. We are investigating the matter and will be able to give more details once we conclude the investigations,” she said.

Mrs Kaira decried moral decadence among young people as pupils across the country have recently made news for immoral behaviour.

“I don’t know what is wrong with our children nowadays. We are having a serious case of some pupils showcasing behaviours that are not synonymous with childhood and it becomes a challenge when we think of what kind of disciplinary measures we need to take on the pupils as we need to address the root cause. Some of these children may be in need of counselling,” said Mrs Kaira.

She described the video as gross, highly immoral and appalling.

“I saw the video myself. The acts of the pupils are highly immoral, despicable and cannot be associated with Ordinary Level pupils. They are very embarrassing and such public indecency is just unacceptable, especially in our schools. We just cannot have such happening,” said Mrs Kaira.

Media is in possession of the video in which two pupils, a boy and girl, whose names have been withheld as they are both minors, are seen touching each other’s genitals in a sexually explicit manner. The boy is fondling the girl’s breasts and buttocks and she is making “sexual” sounds while another pupil can be heard cheering them on in the background.

Residents who spoke to the media after seeing the video said the girl stayed with a close relative who operates a shebeen at her home near the school.

Neighbours alleged that the shebeen queen often forced the girl to engage in sex with her patrons in exchange for money, but that could not be verified immediately.

A neighbour whose name has been withheld for fear of victimisation said the shebeen queen is often raided by police but the woman is defiant as she continues to sell beer from home.

“The shebeen is just a cover up for prostitution that takes place at the residence. It is so bad because she is exposing her own child to sexual abuse as she is only interested in money,” said the neighbour.

Khupe Celebrates Name Use Victory Over Chamisa

Obert Gutu

By Paul Nyathi|Buoyant Thokozani Khupe led MDC-T Deputy President Obert Gutu says that the Nelson Chamisa led MDC-T is chickening out of the court case over the use of the name MDC-T and the party symbol.

Writing in his Facebook page over the weekend, Gutu said that the Chamisa led faction is developing cold feet on the case as they realise that they can not win the case.

Wrote Gutu:

Our erstwhile comrades, have, once again, developed cold feet.Their lawyer,Advocate Thabani Mpofu,is not at all keen to represent them in the High Court trial since he seems to appreciate that his clients have got a snowball’s chance in hell of winning the case.Accordingly, our erstwhile comrades are virtually chickening out of the High Court legal battle.

The case was supposed to commence this morning ie Sunday,July 01,2018 before Honourable Justice Dube at the High Court in Harare. As we expected, our erstwhile comrades are certainly in no mood to have the case kick off. Therefore, our lead Counsel,Professor Lovemore Madhuku, will be approaching Justice Dube in her chambers on Monday morning,July 02,2018,to seek directions on how to proceed with the matter since the Applicant is now playing hide and seek and is apparently no longer keen to prosecute its case to finality.

It’s the Applicant who is dominus litis and as such, they’re legally obliged to prosecute their case to finality. They have got an unwinnable and utterly hopeless case both on the facts and on the law.We have got the Applicant exactly where we want them to be ie in a legal cul de sac out of which they cannot successfully manouvre themselves. In the Shona language,we say “kana wadenha mangwiro, wotokwinya” simply meaning that if you start a fight with a tough opponent you have got to be resilient. We’re prepared and indeed, more than ready,to fight this case to the bitterest end.

In the meantime,we are urging all the MDC-T candidates and party cadres to continue with their campaigns peacefully and without any stress. We have now entered the homestretch.

Simba Chikore Exposed As Fake Aviation Captain

FRESH details have emerged showing that former president Robert Mugabe’s son-in-law Simba Chikore (whose official surname on his identity and travel documents is Mutsahuni) is certainly not an aviation captain, but a first officer although he has publicly claimed that he is one.

Chikore’s false claims to be a captain also comes as it also surfaced that dodgy airline Zimbabwe Airways (ZimAirways) hired an expatriate, Ionica Radicanu, as a manager in charge of quality and safety, when she is not registered with the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe — hence not qualified for the job.

As the ZimAirways saga takes another twist, two of the airline’s Boeing 777 planes could be impounded in Malaysia due to delays by the Zimbabwean government in paying over US$1 million maintenance fees incurred over the last two years.

Contrary to reports that the recently purchased ZimAirways Boeing 777, which had already been delivered to Zimbabwe, had left Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport for the south-eastern Asian country on Africa Day for “A Check” routine service, investigations by the Zimbabwe Independent have shown that the aircraft left Harare after senior management advised government that it would incur more costs while parked at the airport. The two planes — Z-RGM which was delivered in April and the yet-to-arrive Z-NBE — now risk being impounded as the airline wallows in debt.

Sources said the decision to fly back the controversial plane to Malaysia came after Transport minister Joram Gumbo last month summoned senior Air Zimbabwe officials to his offices following the national airline’s refusal to accommodate the Boeing aircraft in its hangars citing risk, among other issues.

Aviation industry sources privy to developments told the Zimbabwe Independent that while ZimAirways consultant and de facto chief executive Chikore was in the United Kingdom undergoing three-week simulator training, the plane was flown back to Malaysia for storage until all the registration and paperwork has been completed.

This decision, however, infuriated Chikore who was expecting to carry out his line training using the same aircraft, confirming earlier reports by this paper that he was not a full captain. Boeing Captain Mark Pierce, according to sources, was supposed to oversee Chikore’s line training.

Sources said Chikore was in the UK between May 3 and May 28 where he attended a Boeing simulator training school in London. The training, sources added, cost US$40 000.

“Since purchasing the plane, maintenance costs accrued to Advanced Air Traffic Systems (AAT) of Malaysia have reached US$1 million and now the plane risks being impounded. The company is owed US$644 000 for maintenance and components for Z-RGM and the US$500 000 for Z-NBE. AAT can hold the planes as surety. The decision to take it back to Malaysia was arrived at after technical personnel realised that nothing much had been done by government in terms of making sure that the plane was secure when it was taken delivery of in April,” an aviation source said.

“Engineer Martin Gwafa would write weekly reports on what needed to be done when the plane landed at Robert Mugabe airport, but little progress was made so management advised minister Gumbo to fly back the plane to reduce the costs.”

The sources said to keep up with its maintenance programme, some of the requirements that were required while the plane was in Harare included daily maintenance, fly 100 hours a month, a hangar and Boeing 777-rated engineers.

Efforts to get comment from ZimAirways were in vain. Contacted for comment on whether or not Chikore had attended simulator training in London, a terse Gumbo said there was nothing amiss with that.

“I cannot be reporting every day about what my officers are doing every day. That is not my mandate,” said Gumbo.

“Who doesn’t know that Simba is a pilot and that he can also undergo training? Who doesn’t know that officers who operate trains also undergo training? Please give Simba some peace, he is also human.”

Gumbo and Chikore got entangled in a US$70 million aircraft purchase scandal which involves state-owned Air Zimbabwe and ZimAirways.

The saga has also sucked in Finance minister Patrick Chinamasa who tried to clear the air over the issue, together with Gumbo, although their intervention only managed to provoke more questions than answers.

Gumbo and Chinamasa’s explanation was that the four Boeing 777-200 planes were bought from Malaysia Airlines through their sole agent PricewaterhouseCoopers Kuala Lumpur, but are now being leased to ZimAirways via the Zimbabwe Aviation Leasing Company (ZALC). They claimed ZimAirways and ZALC are owned by government. Prior to that and to the contrary, Gumbo had always maintained these are private companies owned by Zimbabwean diasporans.

Mnangagwa Rubbishes Chamisa On Chiefs

President Mnangagwa and the ruling Zanu-PF have described as mere political grandstanding, an application by the MDC seeking to compel the ruling party from alleged interferrence with the independence of traditional leaders ahead of the harmonised election.

Responding to the urgent chamber application, President Mnangagwa, through Zanu-PF’s secretary for legal affairs Munyaradzi Paul Mangwana, urged the Electoral Court to dismiss the application.

He said it was a way of undermining the elections before they were even held.

“It is pure grandstanding,” said Mangwana. “It does not have, as its object, a judicial pronouncement in the interest of the democratic process. It is meant to make a political statement for the benefit of external forces thought to have an impact in the conduct of international relations, bearing in mind that international relations are based primarily on the principle of recognition.

“The object of this application is to find a basis for undermining the recognition of the Government of the people that will be elected on July 30.”
Advocate Lewis Uriri of the Temple Bar (Inns of court) instructed by Mr Aston Musunga are representing the President and the ruling party in the matter, while Mr Alec Muchadehama is acting for MDC.

The respondents further argued that the MDC just filed a frivolous application to lay the basis for filing of petitions after the elections.

“The second object is to create one of several intended bases for election petitions after the applicant’s demise at the forthcoming polls,” reads the response.

The lawyers also argued that the Chamisa-led MDC party had no locus standi to file the election-related challenge because it did not register to participate in the forthcoming election. Only the MDC-T led by Dr Thokozani Khupe and the MDC Alliance led by Mr Chamisa are participants in the elections.

Mangwana urged the court to dismiss the application with costs on a higher scale.

The respondents also argued that the law did not allow a sitting President to be sued in his personal capacity in matters of that nature and that the court should simply refuse to hear the matter.

They argued that the MDC-T leadership wrangle was still pending before the High Court and that Mr Chamisa and his faction cannot be allowed to hold themselves out as the legitimate MDC before determination of matter.

“The Chamisa faction cannot seek to undermine the pending litigation by holding itself out in these proceedings as the legitimate MDC,” the respondents argued.

On the merits, President Mnangagwa denied ever encouraging candidates to bribe traditional leaders.

“By the applicant’s own admission, the first respondent does not state that aspiring candidates must proceed to bribe traditional leaders,” reads the papers before the court. “He does not make that encouragement. He does not direct traditional leaders to take bribes nor does he threaten them. The words attributed to him must be understood in their everyday grammatical sense.” – state media

ACCIDENT: 3 Soccer Players Killed

FOUR people including three football players and a member of the Nembudziya FC technical team died after a lorry they were travelling in ploughed into a herd of cattle in the early hours of yesterday.

The three soccer players, whose team plies in the Zifa Midlands Division 2B league, died on the spot while the fourth person is said to have succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident on admission to Gokwe North District Hospital.
The lorry had 45 people on board and 38 people who suffered various degrees of injuries are admitted to Gokwe North District Hospital. Mr Austin Brian Chishanga, the Zifa Midlands chairperson, confirmed the accident which he said happened at around 12:30 am in the Kuwirirana area.

He said Nembudziya FC was returning to Gokwe following a fixture they had fulfilled against BM Academy from Redcliff Town on Saturday afternoon.

“It is with profound sadness that I have to inform you that Nembudziya FC were involved in a road accident while travelling back to Nembudziya from a league game against BM Academy. Four people lost their lives and four other people who are critical have been transferred to a Harare Hospital. The others are admitted to Gokwe District Hospital, “he said.

Mr Chishanga said they were saddened by the loss of lives, adding that the team was an integral part of the league and was developing football in Gokwe in particular and the Midlands Province at large.
“We will give a full report as soon as details are received. We as Zifa Midlands are very sorry, our deepest condolences to all families who have lost their beloved ones. May their souls rest in lasting peace,” he said.
Mr Chishanga said indications were that the fatal accident happened at around 12:30 am.
“As they were approaching Nembudziya, the lorry, which had 45 passengers on board, ploughed into a herd of cattle that was on the road allegedly following a brake failure resulting in the death of the players while others were injured,” he said.

According to Mr Talent Moyo, the Nembudziya FC team manager, the accident happened in Kuwirirana near Nembudziya Growth point.

“We were travelling from Gokwe town centre to Nembudziya from a match against BM Academy which we won three zero. On the approach to Kuwirirana there is Gokwe mountain. As we descended, the lorry’s brakes failed. The driver tried to control the vehicle but to add to the danger were cattle lying on the road. The truck hit the cows before spilling the passengers and overturning once,” said Mr Moyo from his hospital bed at Gokwe North District Hospital where he and other team members are admitted.- state media

Olinda Tytan Wedding, WHAT THEY SAID

Tytan, Olinda wedding
RAPPER Stunner’s ex-lover, Olinda Chapel, is now Olinda Nkomo after tying the knot with musician Tytan Skhokho (real name Njabulo Mayibongwe Nkomo) during a private ceremony held in Harare on Friday.

Already, on her social media pages, she has appended Tytan’s surname to hers even though this was not the “actual wedding”, but a small ceremony to legalise their relationship.

Pictures of the union started circulating on social media late Friday afternoon showing the couple with beaming smiles as they put pen to paper.

Some of the pictures were of the couple’s marriage certificate which was a Chapter 5.11, according to the Marriage Act of Zimbabwe.

Comedian Tyra ‘Madam Boss’ Chikocho, who was at the ceremony, featured in most pictures and convinced many that she was Olinda’s best girl. However, Olinda set the record straight that her sister Tsitsi Zireva was her best girl.

While thousands sent congratulatory messages to the newlyweds, Olinda’s ex-lover’s girlfriend – Dion Chasa – seemed a bit jealous as she posted saying she was waiting for the couple’s divorce.

Olinda swiftly replied to her and said: “May you wait till kingdom come. Taiti kuroya requires rusero, tudhori and being stark naked. I guess even kuroya has evolved in 2018.”

As for Stunner, he posted: “Finally I’m free” on his Facebook page. This drew as much laughter and criticism from fans with some saying the message was not directed at Olinda and Tytan while others said Stunner was pained that his ex-wife had found happiness after their tumultuous marriage.

However, Stunner, responding to comments on his post, said he meant that he had finished recording his latest album and was now free to do as he pleased.

Away from the Stunner and Dion shade, Olinda said the real wedding is set to happen soon. Though the dates for the wedding are yet to be advised as the two are keeping tight lids on their plans, Olinda has already given her friends and family tasks to do.

At her wedding, she said, she wants VIP Hosting luxury wedding planners to do the decor before honeymooning at a beach and then having a baby with Tytan.

“I want a full big wedding with thousands of guests. I want a custom made wedding dress with Tendai Kevin Zhou, Craig Zoowie and Lungi Dlodlo doing some out of this world decor with upside down hanging from the ceiling cakes.

“The honeymoon will be somewhere with blue water and white beaches. I want an amazing baby shower with an out of this world gender reveal,” posted Olinda.

Olinda and Tytan have been grabbing headlines with people questioning their relationship considering their age difference.

In March this year, the duo was in the limelight with social media users claiming that Chapel had given Tytan money to pay for her lobola. – state media

Notorious Robber Escapes Prison Inside Helicopter

In real movie style, a notorious murderer sentenced to 25 years over the death of a policewoman, has escaped from prison in France using a helicopter.

The chopper was armed.

French police yesterday began a manhunt for Mr Redoine Faid, 46.

This is not his first time – in 2013 he literally blasted his way out of prison with explosives concealed in tissue paper, only to be arrested at a hotel six weeks later.

Officials said Redoine Faid’s escape only took “a few minutes” on Sunday and no-one was either injured or taken hostage.

It was reported “an armed commando landed in a helicopter in the courtyard as the prisoner was in the visiting room” of Reau Prison, south of Paris.

The man’s first case was that of armed robbery.

MNANGAGWA BREAKTHROUGH: Hospital Blood Now Absolutely Free

By Dorrothy Moyo| In what could be the Mnangagwa administration’s latest achievements, the government has slashed the cost of blood to $0,00.

It was not clear at the time of writing how and why this sudden change was arrived at. It was neither clear what the source of funding for the upkeep and maintenance of the blood will be. For years the Zimbabwe Blood Transfusion services has argued that they have to charge for blood in order to cover for the cost of maintenance. Below was the letter which reveals that the move is with effect from yesterday 1st July 2018, 30 days before the upcoming polls.
