“Strongest Response To Violence Is Peace, Hate Is Love”: President Mnangagwa

WATCH- Drama As #1980FreedomMovement Disrupts MultiParty Liason Committee Meeting: Calls For Chigumba Resignation

Own Correspondent| The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) multiparty liaison committee meeting with political parties participating in the July 30 elections yesterday ended prematurely after a member of the opposition #1980FreedomMovement demanded the resignation of ZEC Chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba.

Dr Francis Danha, a medical doctor by profession who is contesting for the Makoni West Legislator seat disrupted the meeting on the grounds that ZEC had already rigged the election hence any attempts by the elections body to legitimise the elections and it’s outcome should be condemned.

“We only managed to field 18 out of the 120 candidates and our candidates were disqualified because ZEC did not give us the provisional voters roll so those that nominated our candidates either did not appear on the roll or they simply appeared in different constituencies,” he charged, while declaring that the meeting had been called off.

Efforts for Danha to afford other political parties’ representatives to speak were futile as he started chanting revolutionary songs emphasising that the ZEC Chairperson Justice Chigumba should resign forthwith.

Fidelity Printers To Print Ballot Papers

Qhubani Moyo

By Paul Nyathi|Two Harare based companies Fidelity Printers and Printflow have been given the task to print this year’s election ballot paper.

ZEC commissioner and chairman of the Multi-party Liaison Committee (MLC) Dr Qhubani Moyo said the ballots will be printed locally in the presence of political parties and observers.

“Now that we are going to close the withdrawal of candidates, we are going for printing next week,” he said.
“The ballots are going to be printed by local companies. The Presidential ballot and the National Assembly will be printed by Fidelity Printers and the Local Government ballots will be printed by Printflow here in Harare.

“We are going to invite contesting parties and independents to come and witness the process of the printing so that we deal with certain perceptions that we have had before, in particular to deal with the issues that we have had that the paper had elements of chromatography which allows the migration of an X from one particular candidate to another. We want to satisfy ourselves that all is well so that we deal with perceptions. You see, perceptions matter in elections so we must deal with them.”

He said selected civil society organisations and observers would be allowed to witness the printing.
“Parties and selected civil society will be invited but we can’t take that whole of Zimbabwe we can only take parties candidates and selected observers,” he said.

The opposition MDC Alliance has been up in arms with ZEC demanding to know the companies that will print the ballot paper. In the 2013 elections there were serious allegations that ZANU PF rigged the elections used a special Israeli produced ballot paper to rig the elections.

But Is Justice Chigumba A LIVE Criminal?

Mnangagwa Recounts Poisoning Ordeal

President Emmerson Mnangagwa in Gwanda on Friday

By Own Correspondent| President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday recounted his poisoning ordeal while attending a Zanu-PF rally in Gwanda last August revealing that not a single person from Matabeleland was involved in the attempt on his life.

Cde Mnangagwa who was then the country’s Vice President, was airlifted to Gweru enroute to South Africa following the incident which nearly claimed his life before doctors flushed out the poison and saved his life.

Addressing Zanu-PF supporters at Phelandaba Stadium in Gwanda (Friday), on his first rally at the venue where he was dramatically airlifted after the poisoning incident, President Mnangagwa thanked the people of Matabeleland for their support and for not participating in activities leading to the “poisoning incident”.

He told the hundreds of party supporters gathered at the Stadium that after the poisoning, he was so sick and only remembers leaving his seat from the high table accompanied by Vice President Kembo Mohadi who at that time was the Minister of State Security.

“Details regarding how I got to South Africa I was later told.

I want to refer to what happened in August. I was seated where Mai (Mary) Chiwenga was seated so I told her that ‘danger,’ That was August 12 last year when I left here, I remember standing up, I was accompanied by Mohadi and others,” said President Mnangagwa.

The helicopter which ferried President Mnangagwa on its way to Gweru flew over Phelandaba Stadium while former President Mr Robert Mugabe was addressing the 6th edition of the “Presidential interface rallies” which were later unmasked as a platform for the the notorious G40 cabal fronted by former First Lady Dr Grace Mugabe aimed at expelling all suspected members of the Lacoste faction including Cde Mnangagwa.

Undeterred by the poisoning incident, the G40 cabal increased its attack on Cde Mnangagwa and those perceived to be hus supporters especially war veterans until the penultimate “interface” rally at White City Stadium when things took a dramatic twist setting a chain of events that led to the resignation of Mugabe and the ushering in of a new dispensation led by Cde Mnangagwa.

“I don’t remember about the helicopter. I was told that the helicopter took us to Gweru, my wife told Chiwenga about what had happened and he came and took me to South Africa and I survived,” Cde Mnangagwa told the crowd.

“However, I want you to know that there is no single person from Matabeleland South who was involved in the matter.”

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga while introducing President Mnangagwa paid tribute to the province for standing with the country’s first citizen  heaping praises on South African based business man Mr Justice Maphosa for rescuing the President when he was fired and forced to flee the country following threats to his life.

“When the President became a border jumper last year, some of us were away but he was rescued by a son of Gwanda Justice Maphosa. So like the President said, you do not destroy but build,” said VP Chiwenga.

In his vote of thanks VP Kembo Mohadi described the people of Matabeleland South as a loving and rainbow community.

“We are happy that today you go back in good health and thank you for clearing the air that the people who caused your problems are not from here but those that you came here with,” said VP Mohadi to President Mnangagwa in reference to the poisoning incident.

FULL TEXT: British Embassy Interviews Tongai Dhafana

Joseph Tongai Dhafana

A Zimbabwean businessman in the wine business has been profiled by the British embassy and below is the full interview –

SATURDAY INSPIRATION: As a young child growing up in rural Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe winemaker Joseph Dhafana got into the habit of early mornings and hard work. That’s paid off in a big way. Now based in Cape Town, the 35-year-old is the proud owner of Mosi Wines. He set up the company after training first as a barman and then as a sommelier (wine waiter).

Dhafana was in Harare this week. The British embassy spoke to him briefly and asked him to share his advice for people wanting to follow in his footsteps:

Who is Joseph Tongai Dhafana?

Joseph: I’ve been a qualified wine judge since 2016. I was the third best wine taster in SA 2015. I’m the founder of Team Zimbabwe for the Blind Wine Tasting Championships.

How much did your childhood experiences shape your career?

Joseph: When I was young, my dad used to wake me and my brothers up as early as 0400hrs. We’d go to plough the fields with our cattle. I’d leave them to finish off, rush to the river to take a bath and then walk to school. It was a 10 km walk. I had to do that between Form 1 and Form 4 (start of high school to O-level). Because of that, my day is still 15 hours long. I wake up at 0500 and go to bed at 2300.

What’s been the highlight of your career so far?

Joseph: Lots of things! Here are a few: meeting people from all walks of life and giving them a hand if I can. Seeing a rural boy representing SA in the Olympics of wine-tasting in 2015. Donating wines to the oldest African school in the Cape and the Iziko School of Cookery so that they can auction the wines and help the students. All this has been a dream come true.

For the first time I’m auctioning six bottles of my own wine in August. Fifty percent of what I raise will go to charity. Obviously if all goes well I will donate to Zimbabwe.

Your advice to would-be sommeliers from Zimbabwe?

Joseph: There is no goal which is too high. Be yourself and work very hard. You can be the person you want to be if you work hard. Be determined and associate yourself with the right people. I actually failed my Ordinary-level exams in Zimbabwe but I never looked back. Turn obstacles into achievements. If young Zimbabweans want to get into this business, I’d advise them to associate with people who are already in it. That way it will be easier for them. I took the long route as I was one of the ‘pioneers’.

LIVE- Chamisa: ZEC Dodging To Produce Pictures Of Voters Roll Entrants

Nelson Chamisa in London interviewed by Simba Chikanza

By Own Correspondent| MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has exposed the ZEC for dodging to avail the pictures of voters roll entrants.

The voters roll was availed during the week, but the commission has refused to avail database entries required by the constitution of Zimbabwe. These include pictures and other bio data of entrants in the roll.

Said Chamisa, “Zanu PF is unable to create pictures to accompany its army of ghost voters; creating a fake name is easy but a picture is hard. That’s why ZEC is refusing with the pictures. Our analysts would identify when a picture from Harare is used for virtual polling station in Muzarabani.”

Nigeria Win Throws World Cup Group D Wide Open

By Paul Nyathi|Ahmed Musa scored both goals as Nigeria swept aside World Cup debutants Iceland to leave Group D intriguingly poised with one round of games to go.

The Super Eagles would have gone out with defeat but came good in Volgograd.

Musa showed superb technique to fire Nigeria ahead on the half-volley before the Leicester player rounded keeper Hannes Thor Halldorsson to make it 2-0.

Iceland missed a late penalty – awarded after a video assistant referee review – when Gylfi Sigurdsson fired over.

The result gives a slight lift to beleaguered group rivals Argentina.

Victory over Nigeria in their final game would see La Albiceleste safely into the last 16 – as long as Iceland do not beat group leaders Croatia. In that event, goal difference would decide who progressed.

Victory in that game for Nigeria, on the other hand, would now guarantee their progress. Having started the day bottom of the group, they find themselves second – three points behind Croatia, who have already qualified for the knockout stage.

Majome Pours Cold Water On Report That She Has Been Kicked Out MDC-T

Harare West MP, Jessie Majome yesterday poured cold water on claims that she had been fired from the MDC-T after refusing to withdraw as an independent parliamentary candidate for the constituency.

Majome, a founding member of the MDC-T, vowed to contest as an independent candidate, citing irregularities during the primary elections where she was to contest another female candidate, Joana Mamombe.

On Thursday, media reports said that MDC-T national chairman Morgen Komichi had announced that all the 10 candidates that did not withdraw their nominations with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission by end of day on Wednesday would face dismissal.

But Majome told NewsDay Weekender yesterday that she had not received any formal dismissal letter, nor did she get a formal communication on the ultimatum.

“I only saw it on social media and WhatsApp messages as well as online news sources, saying that I have been dismissed from the party, but I have not been informed,”

Majome said. “There was no letter sent to me by the party to inform me about the ultimatum to withdraw as an independent candidate, or to inform me of the dismissal.”

Majome said she was not sure if the reports were true or fake, but indicated that she was unfazed.

She said she would continue campaigning as an independent and supporting the candidature of MDC-T Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa for the presidency.

“I have not had any communication from the party. Last week, I even heard that they (party) were claiming to be engaged in talks with me, but there were never any talks. I am still encouraging my supporters to vote for Chamisa during my rallies,” Majome said.-Newsday

Mutinhiri Refuses To Withdraw

ZEC Acting Chief Elections Officer, Utloile Silaigwana

By Paul Nyathi|None of the 23 Presidential candidates volunteered to withdraw their candidature with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission by end of day Friday which was the deadline.

Top of the list of those expected to withdraw was National Patriotic Front President Ambrose Mutinhiri who was invited by party colleagues to withdraw and back MDC Alliance candidate Nelson Chamisa.

Due to the lapse in the period accorded for withdrawals, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has gazetted the 23 presidential election candidates who successfully filed their papers when the nomination court sat on June 14, 2018.

The electoral management body has also gazetted chief elections officers to preside over the 210 National Assembly constituencies during the harmonised elections on July 30 2018.

Mr Silaigwana has gazetted 210 elections officers to preside over the geographical National Assembly constituencies. “It is hereby notified that the Chief Election Officer has, in terms of section 4 of the Electoral Regulations, 2005, published in Statutory Instrument 21 of 2005, appointed the persons specified in the first column of the Schedule to be Constituency Elections Officers in Constituencies specified in the second column of that Schedule at the addresses in the Third column thereto,” read the notices.

Shock Picture Of Priscilla Chigumba Wearing Mnangagwa’s Rasta Scarf, But ZEC Says It’s Fake

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) boss Justice Priscilla Chigumba has appeared in a photograph wearing a Mnangagwa scarf. See below –

The development comes as the ZEC was accused of being politically compromised.

But the ZEC commissioner, Dr Qhubani Moyo has defended her saying the picture is fake.

Writing on his Facebook account, Moyo said the picture is photoshopped.

He said the photo was done to distabilise the election process. Moyo said, “Desperate criminal political malcontents are on overdrive manufacturing fake news about Zec.

“Today a fake ballot paper design was circulated and later a Photoshop of Zec chairperson wearing a scarf associated with one political party.

“This is obviously being done by criminal political elements to destabilise the election process.

“These people have nothing to say because the process is running smoothly and they want to disturb it. In both instances it was fake news and the public must dismiss it with the contempt it deserves.”

Disgruntled Teachers To Meet Mnangagwa

Sylvia Utete Masango

THE Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has organised an indaba between teachers and President Emmerson Mnangagwa to discuss conditions of service and challenges facing the education sector.

The Presidential Indaba has been set for July 18 in Harare, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Dr Silvia Utete-Masango said.

She made the announcement yesterday while officially closing the National Association of Secondary Heads (Nash) annual conference in Victoria Falls.

The meeting comes at a time when the ministry is planning to cluster learning areas into eight platforms of related subjects.

“We are planning on an indaba which we are calling the Presidential Indaba to engage the Head of State and it will be on July 18 in Harare,” said Dr Utete-Masango.

“The issues we are looking at are to do with infrastructural development since we have a deficit in schools structures and laboratories. The skills based curriculum is emphasising Information Communication Technologies and we want to discuss ICT because we are looking at e-learning as a methodology for teaching.”

Organisers are still finalising logistics on who should attend-whether all teachers countrywide or their representatives.

On a different subject, Dr Utete-Masango said Zimbabwe was lobbying to host the annual Innovation Africa conference, a continental event held every year on a rotational basis.

She said 30 ministers of education from across Africa will attend the conference whose importance is to woo investors in the area of education.

Earlier, delegates had complained about the new education curriculum which they said was not adding value to the development of learners.

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Professor Paul Mavima shot down their concerns when he officially opened the conference on Thursday saying Government was already seized with the issue.

Yesterday Dr Utete-Masango challenged school heads to introspect on their contribution to the implementation of the ministry’s policies.

She said the ministry had come up with eight learning platforms which seek to cluster learning areas into a combination of related subjects.

Dr Utete-Masango said a circular will soon be dispatched to schools about the new learning platforms.

Outgoing Nash president Mr Johnson Madhuku said the conference was a success as some of their concerns were addressed.

Chamisa Warns Mnangagwa And Chigumba On Elections

Chamisa addressing an MDC Alliance rally

By Paul Nyathi|Opposition MDC Alliance coalition leader Nelson Chamisa has warned President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission chairperson Priscilla Chigumba not to play around with the elections set for July 30 this year.

Addressing thousands of MDC Alliance supporters in rural Gokwe on Friday, Chamisa said that he will not give the ruling ZANU PF a chance to rig the elections.

“This time we are on high alert against any rigging tricks,” said Chamisa.

“We want to warn Mnangagwa and Chigumba not to play jokes with the wishes of the people. We don’t want to understand any your jokes,” he said.

“We want to be there when the ballot papers are being printed otherwise there will be no elections,” he said.

The vibrant young opposition leader said that given a free and fair election he is going to defeat incumbent president Mnangagwa hands down.

“There is no way Mnangagwa can win in a free and fair election. This year I am winning very convincingly,” said Chamisa.

The opposition leader assured the over seven thousand supporters at the rally that his government will immediayely remove the Bond Notes from circulation on the first day in office.

ZEC Desperately Tries To Clear Chigumba ZANU PF Links

Justice Priscilla Chigumba

By Paul Nyathi| Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has taken into an overdrive trying to dismiss on going social media claims linking commission chairperson Priscilla Chigumba to the ruling ZANU PF party.

The commission said the picture of Chigumba dressed in ZANU PF regalia circulating on social media together with one featuring a ballot paper are fake and only meant to tarnish the commission’s image.

Zec commissioner Dr Qhubani Moyo took to the same media on Friday saying the pictures of the ballot paper and Justice Chigumba wearing the ZANU PF scarf were fake.

“Desperate criminal political malcontents are on an overdrive manufacturing fake news about Zec,” he said.

“Today a fake ballot paper design was circulated & later a photoshop of Zec Chairperson wearing a scaff associated with ED (President Mnangagwa). In both instances it was fake news and the public must dismiss it with the contempt it deserves,” wrote Moyo.

“This is obviously being done by criminal political elements to destabilise the election process. These people have nothing to say because the process is running smoothly and they want to disturb it,” he added.

Moyo reproduced the photo trying to highlight the Photoshop aspects.

Moyo wrote on the picture “Check the desperate identification of Photoshop on Zec Chairperson,”

Opposition MDC Alliance Senate candidate David Coltart dismissed Moyo’s claims that Chigumba was Photoshopped in the ZANU PF regalia.

“If its photoshopped it’ll be easy to prove. This looks like a photo taken with a friend by a friend – so it should be simple to produce the original photo. I am surprised this hasn’t been done already given how serious the issue is – it goes to the root of ZEC’s independence,” said Coltart.

Political commentator Alex Magaisa however gave ZEC the benefit of the doubt applauding Commissioner Moyo for trying to play down the photo.

“If it’s photoshop, it’s beyond political banter but it’s good to see efforts to distance ZEC from the scarf,” he said.

Shock Move As Mnangagwa Commits To Devolution Of Power

President Emmerson Mnangagwa in Gwanda on Friday

By Paul Nyathi|After years of denial, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has committed that his Zanu PF government will implement the devolution of power principle as in The Constitution.

Speaking at a hugely attended Zanu PF rally in Gwanda on Friday, Mnangagwa said that if he wins the landmark July 30 elections he will implement Section 14 of the Constitution which has been widely ignored in the last five years by the party he leads.

Mnangagwa acknowledged that the current government was ably implementing the decentralisation of government functions which does not constitute the devolution of power principle.

“We know that for example, the Ministry of Education runs a full decentralised system with offices in the regions, provinces and even down to the districts and wards but that is not enough,” said Mnangagwa.

“There is another decentralisation of power that has not been done called devolution which is separate from decentralisation. Devolution would require the surrendering of some amount of power to the provinces under the provincial councils,” he said.

“In terms of our constitution this will give provinces authority to manage their resources and then the provincial ministers’ role will change from chanting party slogans to an economic role. They must look at the resources of their provinces and find best ways of exploiting these resources to benefit their respective provinces.”

Mnangagwa’s commitment to the devolution of power is a completely new definition from his predecessor former President Robert Mugabe who always insisted that the current decentralisation of governemnt roles was complete devolution of power.

The commitment by Mnangagwa comes as a direct challenge to opposition parties that have been pushing the devolution of power principle as their manifesto.

Mnangagwa said after the elections each province will compete in terms of economic delivery.

“When we finish the July 30 elections, the Second Republic will come into place. Under the Second Republic, each province will have its own economic planning programming from ward, to district to provinces, we initiate the provincial council as provided for by the constitution, run province by province in a devolved power,” said Mnangagwa.

“There is no province without resources, each province has particular resources. Under the second republic coming in August, if you don’t want to be rich don’t walk close to us,” he said.

Mnangagwa echoed calls by some opposition parties that Matabeleland South must reap from the income generated by Southern Africa’s busiest inland port of entry, Beitbridge Border Post. He said that the Border Post will under go a major facelift before elections.

“Cabinet passed a resolution that Beitbridge Border Post should be modernised so we awarded a company a tender to modernise it. We hope that by Thursday next week work will start at the border,” he said.

Mnangagwa Leaves Gwanda In Good Health

President Emmerson Mnangagwa in Gwanda on Friday

By Paul Nyathi|Giving a Vote of Thanks and closing remarks at the end of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s rally in Gwanda on Friday, Vice President Kembo Mohadi said that the people of Gwanda and Matabeleland South province were happy that he was leaving the town in good health.

Recounting Mnangagwa’s historic last visit to Pelandaba Stadium in the town, the day he was poisoned while attending a Zanu-PF rally last August, Vice President Mohadi thanked President Mnangagwa for clearing the air that non of the people from Gwanda and Matabeleland South were involved in the poisoning incident.

“We are happy that today you go back in good health and thank you for clearing the air that the people who caused your problems are not from here but those that you came here with,” said Mohadi.

Mnangagwa who was then the Vice President, had to be airlifted to a military hospital in Gweru enroute to South Africa after eating suspected poisoned ice cream at the rally addressed by former President Robert Mugabe.

Addressing about 20 000 Zanu-PF supporters at his first rally after the alleged poisoning incident and his first at the venue as President and Zanu-PF First Secretary, Mnangagwa said not a single person from Matabeleland South was involved in the attempt on his life.

“That was August 12 last year when I left here, I remember standing up, I was accompanied by Mohadi and others. I don’t remember about the helicopter. I was told that the helicopter took us to Gweru, my wife told Chiwenga about what had happened and he came and took me to South Africa and I survived,” Mnangagwa said.

“However, I want you to know that there is no single person from Matabeleland South who was involved in the matter, those who did it came with me from Harare,” he said amidst loud cheers from the crowd.

Welcoming Mnangagwa to the province, the Zanu-PF provincial chairperson Rapelang Choene congratulated Mnangagwa for surviving the poisoning incident which brought a huge dent to the province.

“This is the place where the enemy wanted to finish you but today I promise you that you won’t die, God is with you. This is your home, those who wanted to kill you, God has shown them that he has power,” said Choene.

“As Matabeleland South, we are happy that you are here today alive and well after all the hardships you faced.”

If Mnangagwa Was Poisoned, Where Is The Evidence?

By Dorrothy Moyo| Was President Emmerson Mnangagwa ever poisoned last year in August? If he was poisoned, who did it and why? It could only be the then first lady Grace Mugabe and or at least her aides, Jonathan Moyo, Patrick Zhuwao, and Saviour Kasukuwere. If there was any evidence of poisoning why is it that a police case was not opened at least in South Africa where it would have been detected? Furthermore the Gwanda incident was not the first such occurrence. There was another incident of cyanide poisoning in the man’s office, and his two secretaries were hospitalised during the scare. But a report conducted by the CIO and vice president Kembo Mohadi revealed that the so-called cyanide was a white powder substance of whom mealie meal is more lethal than it.

So far the Mnangagwa aides have shifted names for the so called “poison,” from pallidium, to pollonium, and in recent days, to a nuclear substance only found in Russia and Israel.

Of the Gwanda incident, Mnangagwa’s own health advisor, Dr. David Parirenyatwa says there was no poison at all. He says it was just gastroenteritis, or better said, diarrhoea.

But Mnangagwa yesterday recounted the day he says he was poisoned while attending a Zanu-PF rally in Gwanda last August.
The state media report continues saying: Mnangagwa who was then the Vice President, had to be airlifted to Gweru enroute to South Africa where doctors flushed out the poison and saved his life.
Addressing Zanu-PF supporters at Phelandaba Stadium in Gwanda, his first rally at the venue where he was dramatically airlifted after the poisoning incident and also his first at the venue as President and Zanu-PF First Secretary, Mnangagwa said not a single person from Matabeleland South was involved in the attempt on his life.
The President told the thousands gathered at the Stadium that after the poisoning, he was so sick and only remembers leaving his seat from the high table accompanied by Vice President Kembo Mohadi, then Minister of State Security and the rest of the details of how he got to South Africa, he was later told. “I want to refer to what happened in August. I was seated where Mai (Mary) Chiwenga was seated so I told her that ‘danger,’ That was August 12 last year when I left here, I remember standing up, I was accompanied by Mohadi and others,” said President Mnangagwa.
The helicopter, on its way to Gweru flew over Phelandaba Stadium while former President Mr Robert Mugabe was addressing the 6th edition of the infamous “Presidential interface rallies” which were later unmasked as a platform for the the notorious G40 cabal fronted by former First Lady Mrs Grace Mugabe meant to discredit and push out from Zanu-PF cadres with liberation credentials including Mnangagwa.
Undeterred by the poisoning incident, the G40 cabal upped the ante in its attack on the person of Mnangagwa until the penultimate “interface” rally at White City Stadium when things took a dramatic twist setting a chain of events that led to the resignation of Mr Mugabe and the ushering in of a new dispensation led by Mnangagwa.
“I don’t remember about the helicopter. I was told that the helicopter took us to Gweru, my wife told Chiwenga about what had happened and he came and took me to South Africa and I survived,” Mnangagwa told the elated crowd.
“However, I want you to know that there is no single person from Matabeleland South who was involved in the matter.”
Earlier when he was introducing Mnangagwa, VP Chiwenga paid tribute to the province for standing with President Mnangagwa heaping praises on South African based business man Mr Justice Maphosa for rescuing the President when he was fired and forced to flee the country following threats to his life.
“When the President became a border jumper last year, some of us were away but he was rescued by a son of Gwanda Justice Maphosa. So like the President said, you do not destroy but build,” said VP Chiwenga.
In his vote of thanks VP Kembo Mohadi said the people of Matabeleland South were a loving and rainbow community.
“We are happy that today you go back in good health and thank you for clearing the air that the people who caused your problems are not from here but those that you came here with,” said VP Mohadi to President Mnangagwa in reference to the poisoning incident.
In his welcome remarks, Zanu-PF provincial chairperson Rabelani Choene said God had shown his power by protecting President Mnangagwa and saw him through the poisoning incident.
“This is the place where the enemy wanted to finish you yesterday but today I promise you that you won’t die, God is with you. This is your home, those who wanted to kill you, God has shown them that he has power,” said Choene.
“As Matabeleland South, we are happy that you are here today after all the hardships you faced.”

More Trouble For City Women After Goblin Cleansing Ceremony

IT seems the ‘death’ of the troubling goblins Qobola and Mike did not bring peace to Cowdray Park suburb as expected because many issues have arisen resulting in chaos in the suburb.

Residents have been left divided following the cleansing ceremony and now it turns out there is a ghost goblin only troubling women by having sex with them.

On the other hand, it is reported that there are people demanding the naming and shaming of the goblin owner so they could get compensation as some of their property was destroyed by the goblin.

The same people are reportedly accusing Prophet Siziba of planting goblins if he fails to publicly announce the goblin owners.

Although some people claim to be finally having peace, there are some women complaining that the ‘goblin’ was still having sex with them.

On the other hand, Prophet Siziba has not had peace after the cleansing ceremony. He has been getting phone calls from a private number threatening him with death.

There’s chaos in the suburb and it seems people have got mixed feelings following the incident.

“Since the cleansing ceremony, we have not had incidents where property was destroyed by the unseen creatures; it is really quiet in the suburb.

“Unfortunately, it is now residents’ fighting each other as some are demanding to know the goblin owner so he can repair their destroyed property. However, the community leaders and Prophet Siziba claim the police instructed them not to reveal names,” said one resident, Timothy Sibanda.

Another resident who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed that the goblins had stopped stoning houses but there were some women who complained that they woke up in the morning with clear indications of having sexual intercourse during the night.

“As women we are worried that it seems there is now a goblin only targeting women or it’s Qobola’s ghost, we are not sure.

“We have reported the matter to the community leader because another cleansing ceremony is needed to deal with this ‘ghost,” said the woman who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The residents chairman Johannes Nyoni could neither confirm nor deny the allegations, but revealed that on Saturday they would have an emergency meeting to discuss a number of issues.

“I have not had reports of houses which were stoned ever since the cleansing ceremony. People are talking a lot and therefore we have called for an emergency meeting on Saturday so we could discuss as we need a peaceful suburb.

“I cannot deny that there is a goblin sleeping with women, but all I know is that there is only one woman complaining and I think it’s a family problem,” said Nyoni.

Prophet Siziba confirmed receiving threats, but said he would first report the matter to police before opening up.

Prophet Siziba did not charge residents for trapping and killing the troubling goblins Qobola and Mike. He claims to have done it free of charge.

Cowdray Park residents from Section 17 had their houses stoned by unseen creatures during the month of May and the mysterious creatures were reportedly having sex with women which resulted in residents calling for a cleansing ceremony.

Tongogara Death, ‘I Think It Was Deliberate’ Says Dabengwa

According to Dabengwa, Tongogara’s crime was his decision to openly support Nkomo’s candidature as Patriotic Front leader ahead of Mugabe after the two liberation war movements had principally agreed to contest the 1980 polls as one unit.

“That was one (when asked about murder linked to integration of forces) and secondly because he had almost openly said it during the Lancaster House discussions that as far as he was concerned, Nkomo should be the leader of the PF because Nkomo is a natural leader who has got the experience and who has got the focus whereas as far as he was concerned Mugabe was good only for administration and that that’s the position he should occupy, probably as secretary-general of the PF
“Those were Tongo’s views and unfortunately he said them out during informal discussions with other people at Lancaster House but he was direct, he said it to me. And he was very clear,” Dabengwa said.

Tongogara died in a mysterious car accident in Mozambique on December 26, 1979 while driving back home at the end of the liberation war. Mugabe pulled Zanu out of the PF on the eve of the elections and went on to form the first independence government in Zimbabwe after a slender majority victory.

Dabengwa said Tongogara’s death was not a normal accident.

“We came back in 1980 and unfortunately Tongogara was killed in that so-called accident. I really do not want to believe it was an accident. I think it was deliberate,” he said.

“The whole structure of the PF had been created and what remained was to name the people, the individuals that would fit into the different posts and when they tried to do it during the Lancaster House talks in the United Kingdom, some people like (the late) Enos Nkala were strongly opposed to it and said it must be left, that decision will be taken at home,” Dabengwa said.

Dabengwa added that efforts to bring the two liberation parties together hit a brick-wall with Mugabe’s supporters in the military particularly “dodgy.”

“That already complicated our integration process and we saw it, but we were busy with the ceasefire arrangement and each time we tried to discuss this issue with (the late commander Solomon) Mujuru and (Vitalis) Zvinavashe and so on, they were dodgy.

“When we tried to say to them that this is what we have decided on with Tongogara in London… they dodged the whole issue until after the elections and the results were known,” he said.

Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga in December last year hinted Tongogara may have been murdered, but did not say much.

Besides declaring him a national hero, Mugabe never really honoured Tongogara during his 37-year reign, but his successor, President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently renamed the country’s biggest military garrison, KGV1 after the revered nationalist.

Croatian Defender Mocks Argentina

Terrence Mawawa

Croatian defender Sime Vrsaljko mocked Argentina claiming they were ‘crying like girls’ after their loss in the FIFA World Cup 2018 on Thursday.

Goals from Ante Rebic, Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic guided Zlatko Dalic’s men to a resounding win in the Group D clash.

Argentina struggled to contain Croatia, particularly after Willy Caballero’s awful error gifted Rebic a 53rd-minute opener.

“I saw Argentinians falling on the floor and crying like girls.

“We were firmer, better, had better chances. They will have to do well in the next game [against Nigeria] to progress to the second round, if they even progress.”

Argentina were left with one point in the group and needing other results to go their way to reach the last 16.

Adulterous Intentions, Obsessed Man Pesters Pregnant Woman For Se-x

ADULTEROUS intentions of a Msasa Park man were on Wednesday exposed when a married woman whom he was pestering for sex, rejected his request and informed her husband.

Grace Chiutsi said she decided to inform her husband Trust Gumbudza that their fellow tenant Sylot was requesting sexual favours from her because she wanted to protect her marriage.

“I am happily married to my husband and I am not a woman of loose morals. I felt so disrespected by the fact that someone who knows I am married proposes love to me.

“His (Sylot)’s proposal came to me as a great shock. I never expected him to stoop so low considering that we stay at the same house as tenants.

“To protect my marriage I then informed my husband about it because I didn’t want him to get the information from anyone else because it would then imply as if I was consenting to Sylot’s request,” she said.

Sylot confirmed soliciting for sex from Grace but he however claimed that he was out of his mind when he was making the requests.

“I am really ashamed of myself because I don’t even know what had got into me.

“I wasn’t in my normal senses. I think I was demon possessed because I don’t see how I could have fallen for her considering that she is pregnant with her husband’s child.

“I know it’s hard for both Grace and Trust to accept my apology but I am really sincere that I have learnt my lesson and this will never happen again,” he said.

H-Metro is in possession of messages that Sylot was sending to Grace asking her to sleep with him.

Meanwhile, Trust said he was now planning to move out of the house considering what had happened.

“I was hurt because this is something that I never expected from him. When my wife told me about it I took days to ask him (Sylot) why he was doing that because I wanted to see if he was serious.

“To my surprise he continued sending my wife messages advising her to divorce me.

“I think if the landlord does not evict Sylot I am going to leave the house because I cannot stand to see him every day.

“With the way he is in love with my wife I am afraid that he might even kill me just to have her,” he said.

Meanwhile, when H-Metro arrived at the scene, Sylot had sprayed Trust in the eyes when he asked him why he was proposing love to his wife.

WORLD CUP UPDATES: Nigeria Destroys Iceland

Nigeria has beaten Iceland 2-0 to bag all three points.

Nigeria’s Ahmed Musa hit the net twice punishing the wasteful Iceland team.

Iceland squandered an opportunity in 82nd minute when Gylfi Sigurdsson missed a penalty as he blasted the ball over the bar.

Nigeria who lost their opening match to Croatia needed a win against Iceland to give themselves an opportunity to proceed in the competition.

The Nigerians play Argentina in the last group stage matches, a game that promises fireworks as the misfiring Lionel Messi would be in full drive to avoid early exit from the tournament.

Argentina drew one all with Iceland in the opening match and suffered a humiliating defeat to Croatia yesterday, going down by 3 goals to nil.

“Only ED Deserves Your Vote,” Argues Dr Mavaza – How So, Fool; He is One Wielding the Veto

By Patrick Guramatunhu| People like Dr Masimba Mavaza have such poor memory, they forget yesterday’s troubles with sleep. “Kukangamwa chezuro nehope!” as one would say in Shona.

“The world believes that only ZANU PF has the policies that will protect and advance the lives of ordinary people. Only ED will invest in skills and training. Only ED will build the homes so urgently needed. Only ED can be trusted with our children’s education. Only ED can make work in this country pay. In less than six months the face of Zimbabwe has changed for better. The civil servants had their pay increased and nurses had their grievances solved,” he wrote.

Yes, ordinary people like Mavaza who cannot remember what happened yesterday much less these last 38 years will be foolish enough to trust President Mnangagwa and his junta with their lives. The rest of the world would not do so because they know Zimbabwe is in this economic and political mess because of Zanu PF.

Except for Robert Mugabe, Professor Jonathan Moyo and one or two others booted out of the party following last November’s military coup – the rest of the world call it a coup because it was a coup, but the coup plotters have convinced the naïve and myopic to it was a military assisted transition – the same faces who have been in power for the last 38 years are in power today. They have presided over the economic rot and, worse still, have used all manner of vote rigging dirty tricks including brute force and mass murders to make sure Zanu PF remain in power regardless of the economic rot and the tragic human suffering it brought.

Last November’s coup was called “Operation Restore Legacy” because it was about wrestling power from Robert Mugabe who wanted to hand it over to his wife and her G40 faction. President Mnangagwa, VP Chiwenga and all those constituting the core of this junta regime, the Lacoste faction, who had been the bulwark of the Zanu PF dictatorship, staged the coup to ensure they retained power.

Yes, President Mnangagwa has ditched some of Mugabe’s flagship policies like the indigenisation law and has hit the ground running in wooing the West and foreign investors. “Zimbabwe is open for business!” has been his cockcrow each time he opened his mouth.

He has also spoke endless about “a new political dispensation” and promised to hold free, fair and credible elections; even he must have realised that Zimbabwe could not be open for business as long as it remained a pariah state. But by refusing to implement even one democratic reform to designed to take away Zanu PF’s carte blanche dictatorial powers, he once again proved to the world that, post the November coup, Zimbabwe was still a nation ruled by thugs.

The flood of foreign investors that the regime was cocksure was coming has failed to materialize. Only day-dreamers like Dr Masimba Mavaza are still hanging on to the illusion of mega deals, jobs for everyone, etc. An illusion because with no foreign direct investment to kick start the economy now in a comatose state Zimbabwe is going nowhere.

President Mnangagwa and his junta are set to win these elections not so much because the regime has managed to hoodwink naïve and gullible people like Dr Mavaza into believing the regime has changed although this an important part. Zanu PF is set to win with a landslide victory because the party has managed to retain all its carte blanche power to rig the vote.

President Mnangagwa has done a great job in making sure the party’s thugs, war veterans and the state security personal who have been the root cause of all the in-your-face politically motivated violence are all on a short leash this time. Still the Chiefs, the war veterans, 5 000 soldiers and party thugs directed by Zanu PF National Political Commissar, Engelbert Rugeje, a notorious party thug in his own right, have been out to remind the people the wanton violence of 2008 will return if Zanu PF was to lose these elections. “Operation harvest fear”, as one analyst has called it.

However, Zanu PF is relying on the lack of free public media, ZEC has failed to produce a verified voters’ roll throwing the door wide open to all manner of vote rigging by NIKUV and the Chinese experts, the party has billions of dollars looted from the impoverished citizens to bankroll its varied and expensive vote rigging schemes, etc.

“If you go into next month’s elections, you will lose; the elections are done!” SADC leaders warned Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friend on the eve of the 2013 elections. SADC leaders wanted the elections postponed so the democratic reforms agreed at the onset of 2008 GNU could be implemented first.

Zanu PF has never held free, fair and credible elections, never; in all its 38 years in power. The regime has gone through the electoral ritual of voters’ roll, election manifestos, campaigning, voting, vote counting, etc. but only to confirm a pre-determined outcome – a landslide victory for Zanu PF. This year’s elections are no different; “these elections are done!” as SADC leaders would say.

Zanu PF has always been careful to make the simple-minded Zimbabweans feel they have a vote and it counts. The reality is where the ordinary people had the vote the Zanu PF ruling elite have always seen to it that they have the veto.

President Mnangagwa and his junta are not offering any the economic magic bullet that will transform our bust economy into boom. The regime’s “Zimbabwe is open for business!” call has fallen on deaf ears because the investors can see Zanu PF is still a party corrupt and vote rigging thugs masquerading as democrats. To vote for this junta on the believe it will bring economic prosperity is to go chasing a mirage!

But even if the junta was offering some workable economic policies such as ending corruption, just like some of Mugabe’s policies were good; there is no guaranteed that the junta will follow through and implement these policies. Indeed President Mnangagwa has promised to end corruption but in all his nine months in office, he has yet to arrest one corrupt official. How can he deal a telling blow to corruption when he, VP Chiwenga and many others in the junta are themselves corrupt!

If these elections are not going to resolve Zimbabwe’s economic mess, they should resolve the political conundrum, the curse of rigged elections, the curse of veto that trumps the people’s vote, which is the root cause of all the economic problems.

“On the 30th of July, only ED deserves your VOTE,” Dr Mavaza argue.

Even after 38 years of rigged elections, the penny has yet to drop that the vote only counts when elections are free, fair and credible. Where elections are blatantly rigged, as is the case in Zimbabwe, the ruling elite have the veto. So, before you get all excited about these elections and whom the people should vote for, first take away the ruling elite’s veto! What is the point of casting a vote when you know someone will veto it if they so wish!

These elections are about restoring the people’s right to a meaningful say in the governance of Zimbabwe, restoring the people’s right to a meaningful vote by taking away the ruling elite’s veto.

President Mnangagwa has promised to hold free, fair and credible elections, to restore the people’s meaningful vote and give up Zanu PF’s veto; he and his junta must deliver or step aside.

Holding free, fair and credible elections is the only sure guarantee for competent and democratically accountable government. The greatest mistake this nation has ever made was to allow Zanu PF to rig elections and get away with it time and time again. The greatest challenge of this generation is to make sure that no one, absolutely no one, this junta Zanu PF regime or anyone, ever again rig the elections and get away with it! – zsdemocrats.blogspot.co.uk

Denver Mukamba

Child ‘Punches’ Trump Under The Belt Over Hostile Migrant Laws

A Time magazine cover depicting Donald trump welcoming a lone migrant child to America is trending on social media following US president’s inhuman policy of separating migrant children from their parents on arrival at U.S borders.

Trump has since reversed his policy after criticism from all corners of the world but the wide publicity to the story has left U.S status on human rights completely dented.

Time Magazine selected original photo by John Moore to illustrate the cruel reality of Trump’s immigration policy, an illustration showing Trump welcoming a ‘lone’ child migrant who could hardly reach Trump’s hip in height.

Below is the video behind the Time magazine cover illustration.

Mnangagwa Aide Maphosa Seeks To Escape To Zimbabwe

South Africa-based Zimbabwean business mogul and Big Strategic Group boss Justice Maphosa, who has of late been in trouble over citizenship and tax fraud issues, is set to make massive investments across many sectors of the local economy worth multi-millions, the businessdigest has learnt.

Maphosa, who sheltered President Emmerson Mnangagwa after fleeing the country in November last year following his dismissal by ex-president Robert Mugabe, says the investments were first mooted three years ago.

“It is true that Big Time Strategic Group South Africa has set up a group of companies in Zimbabwe. This has been ongoing for three years now and the plans are at an advanced stage where we are now talking about the launch of these companies. The launch will be in a few months from now. We are still perfecting our technologies and setting up the required infrastructure needed to make this work,” said Maphosa.

Big Time Strategic Group is looking at investing in the financial services, agricultural, insurance services, transport and logistics and health sectors of economy.
Maphosa said his proposed investments were purely driven by patriotism and the new “Zimbabwe is open for business” thrust by Mnangagwa.

“For a start, we as a business believe in our country Zimbabwe. It is a good country. As such, we see many investment opportunities in Zimbabwe. Our country is lagging behind by so many years when it comes to infrastructural development and technology. Why must this be left to anyone else to come in at this particular time?” he said.

Maphosa said investing now would see investors reaping the rewards of early entry into the economy. He also could be looking for a safe haven in the wake of tax charges in South Africa and deportation threat.

“I am not going to be one of those watchers and moaners in the economy. We will invest in our own country. Every investment has its element of risk. And one cannot be very sure of any investment they partake in. Even our investment tools and science factors and theories we factor into these equations, do not make the investment immune to the market, social and political conditions that may shift these tectonic plates for the best or even worst. This is the nature of business. It is very unpredictable and very volatile,” he said.

Maphosa, who has been convicted of tax fraud and is paying about R1 million as a result and recently faced deportation from South Africa, says there was no need to dwell in the past.

“Yes it is true. We have had our own brushes with the law before. It is part of our learning curve. Nevertheless, this story is so old now. This is in 2010 and our accountants made a big mistake and were fired for that,” he said.

Maphosa, who describes Mnangagwa as a father, says his relationship with the 75 year old was purely professional.

“We see and view President Mnangagwa as our leader, a father figure, an elderly man, a political leader, a President on his seat driving and championing the cause for a new Zimbabwe that is thriving, working and solving its problems internally. That is how we see him. That is what our relationship with him and us as a business starts and ends,” said Maphosa.

Maphosa said Mnangagwa was a likeable character, adding that he supported his business thrust.

“Personally, l have met him as you heard him speak and tell all of you about his struggles when he was fired and ended up in diaspora. I am fond of him. He is a likable leader who never misses a moment to educate you about this and that as a young man, when you do find a moment to sit down and quiz his brain. I have no father, mine passed away, so l always take time to learn from the aged, the old and those with wisdom,” he said.

Maphosa, with business interests in property, technology, events management and agriculture, among other sectors, says investing back home provided security for his business ventures which have often come under scrutiny and threat in South Africa

With the Chinese, French, British, Germans among other economic power houses, having expressed interest in investing into the country, Maphosa is also seeking to benefit.
A source close to Maphosa told the Zimbabwe Independent that the business tycoon, who relocated to South Africa as a young man, would continue with business plans even if Mnangagwa were to lose the July 30 general elections.

But it is, however, not a coincidence that the investments will come after elections as he seeks a safe haven for his capital.

Independent Candidate Takes Early Lead- Analysts

Terrence Mawawa

Independent aspiring candidate for Masvingo Urban Constituency, Sam Chapfudza is likely to beat his rivals in the July 31 election, analysts have said.

Although the general trend of elections in Zimbabwe depicts that independent candidates find it difficult to win, political analysts in the ancient city believe Chapfudza will romp to victory on July 30.

Chapfudza will battle it out against Zanu PF’ s Benjamin Taguma Mazarire, Jacob Nyokanhete of the MDC Alliance, Francis Nyakurita (People’s Rainbow Coalition) and Mike Taderera of NPF.A total of nine candidates will contest in the constituency.

“So far independent candidate Sam Chapfudza is ahead of his rivals. I listened to his presentation at a Public Debate held last night. He managed to articulate social ills in the local community,” said a Masvingo based lecturer.

“People are concerned about topical issues not else,” said a Masvingo based lawyer.

Govt To Raise $150 million To Fund 470 000 Housing Units By 2028

The government will in the next few weeks float a $150 million bond to kick start the command housing project across the country.

The plan which is being made through government housing investment vehicle, Urban Development Corporation (UDCORP) will see pension funds, insurance companies, private investors and banks taking part in the floating of the housing bonds.

UDCORP head Mr Hashmon Matemera told the ZBC News after a presentation of the command housing that the funds are aimed at developing 470 000 housing units across the country in the next ten years.

“We will do all we can to raise the required funds for the project to be a success,” he said.

The government is still committed to affordable housing projects, said the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Mr George Magosvongwe.

“We shall do our best to honour the projects,” he said.

Zimbabwe has in the past 20 years experienced limited housing projects due to lack of fiscal space and a challenging macroeconomic climate.

‘Only Black Coach At The World Cup’, Senegal Coach Aliou Cisse’s Disappointment

Football coach Aliou Cisse of Senegal has reignited the debate on race and sport as he turns out to be the only black coach at the current World Cup tournament.

Black football managers both at club level and international scene are very few whilst most leagues have lots of black players around the world. Most European national teams now have black players in their squads with France and England in the lead, but the reality is there is still no black managers at top level.

Senegalese coach might be happy that his team beat Poland in their opening match but says the reality of being the only black manager at the World Cup annoys him.

Senegal coach Aliou Cisse: “Indeed I am the only black coach in this tournament. It’s a painful reality that annoys me, i believe that football is universal, i believe that skin color has little importance in the game”

Most African countries prefer foreign coaches in pursuit of football success but some commentators believe there is no proof that this brings success at the end.

When Winners are Losers

Dear Family and Friends,

Under a bright blue sky and with the golden grass swaying in the cool winter wind, Zimbabwe is holding its breath this June. Our neighbourhoods and gardens are filled with the clear, alluring voices of Orioles and Shrikes and the piercing whistles of young Hawks and Eagles as they learn to hunt.  Standing in the sun to get warm  is our  national preoccupation at this time of year and while we do we watch, listen, shake our heads and chuckle at the propaganda, promises and puffed up posturing of prospective politicians.

There’s a very strange feeling in the air in Zimbabwe as the July 30thelections get closer. Daily life is sort of normal but totally abnormal at the same time. The supply of bank notes is now almost non existent. The queues outside the banks never go away and you consider yourself lucky to get a bag of ten dollars worth of Bond coins. “Counting the browns,” is the new catch phrase as you wait in shops and supermarkets while tellers count little piles of five and ten cent Bond coins. Handbags, purses and pockets get longer and heavier as we all carry around bags of Bond coins. At the tollgates on the highways the cars move slower and slower as motorists don’t have cash to pay the standard US$2 toll fee so they have to use debit cards or mobile phone apps. Above our run down towns the helicopters clatter overhead two or three times a week; helicopters on the election campaign trail looking for our votes while on the ground below we don’t have enough coins for a loaf of bread. Looking up at the helicopters from the pavements, intersections and roadsides, are the masses of unemployed Zimbabweans selling all manner of goods for a few cents profit in order to survive. The contrasts are dramatic if you choose to see them.

23 candidates representing 22 political parties are vying for the Presidential post in Zimbabwe. The two main contenders are Zanu PF, in power for 38 years and the MDC Alliance. We are holding our breath, waiting for something to happen, not really believing that we can trust the people telling us that this time round Zimbabwe is going to have a peaceful election.  Free and Fair, Peaceful, Transparent, Credible; these are the adjectives we are hearing every day but they are hard to swallow coming from the same party who have masterminded and overseen repeated violent elections dominated by violence, threats, intimidation, harassment and fear.

All the adjectives aside, the fact is that Zimbabwe has not forgotten the events of the last four decades while the ruling Zanu PF party have been in power; events that took place on their watch, at their hand. History recalls them with mere phrases and statistics: 20,000 people  killed in a genocide in Matabeleland in the 1980’s by Zimbabwe’s army; compulsory land redistribution leaving 800,000 people unemployed and homeless in the 2000s followed by nearly two decades of food insecurity, imports and international food aid; 800,000 people homeless and destitute after Operation Murambatsvina’s  bulldozers destroyed their lives in 2005;  four million citizens fleeing to the Diaspora from 2000 to now, escaping economic collapse, political violence, oppression and unemployment. Everyone knows it wasn’t just one man responsible for this but for now they say nothing.

For the last eighteen years I have been telling the story of Zimbabwe every week, determined that this unbelievable litany of events that has so ravaged our country and people would not just be statistics and phrases. Because it was us, real people caught up in the horrors: Mums and Dads, children and grandparents, black and white; we are a country traumatized, broken, scarred and waiting, ever waiting for justice and accountability.

With just six weeks before the elections I am pleased to announce the release of  my new book, “When Winners are Losers ” which tells the story of what happened in Zimbabwe when the winners of the 2008 elections were forced to share power with the losers.  It had taken ZEC (Zimbabwe Electoral Commission) five weeks to release the 2008 election results and when they did the MDC had won but they said the results were not decisive and called for a second vote. In the two month interim hundreds of MDC supporters were killed, thousands more fled the country and the MDC said a quarter of a million people were displaced from their homes. To stop the bloodshed and relieve the suffering of all Zimbabweans the MDC entered into a government of National Unity with Zanu PF. “When Winners are Losers” records the events of the years 2009-2013 when we had dared to hope but it was never realized.  “When Winners are Losers” is available internationally from www.lulu.com/spotlight/CathyBuckle2018 and in Zimbabwe please contact: [email protected] . Mutare College Rocked By A Disturbing S*x Scandal

A PRIVATE college in Mutare has been rocked by a disturbing s*x scandal that was recently laid bare following the leakage of a se* tap laden with wicked clips showing a pupil and a student teacher getting dirty. The video has since gone viral and the Alpha Institute’s administration is now implementing fire fighting methods to contain the situation and protect the integrity of the institution.

While it is every parent’s wish to have his or her children get a good education, many of today’s youths are singing from a different hymn book.

They seem not to appreciate the sacrifices parents make and, instead of concentrating on school work, they have virtually turned into sex maniacs.

The s** tape is shocking and despicable.

An investigation by The Weekender soon after the sex tape went viral revealed that the pupil at the private college was getting naughty.

In the video, the student teacher — Frank Nyambonga — from Mutare Teachers’ College filmed himself and Mazvita Dube having sexual intercourse.

The love birds filmed themselves having unprotected se* reportedly at the student teacher’s rented accommodation at Chitakatira Growth Point. Speaking to The Weekender, Dube — who is doing Form 4 — said she was now 18 years old and had the right to have se*.

Said Dube: “My boyfriend Nyambonga filmed the video and sent the se* tape to a rival suitor out of jealous.”

She said she was not ashamed to be on the video, insisting that she was in love with Nyambonga and was now married to him.

Nyambonga then forwarded it to a rival suitor who was also proposing love to Dube. This was as a measure meant to stop him from chasing after his girl.

However, the unnamed rival suitor could not stomach what was showing before his eyes, seeing his potential girlfriend having unprotected sex with someone else.

He thus shared the sex tape with the whole world.

Alpha Institute principal director Mr Nangisai Marange and the headmaster Mr Ngundu confirmed the sex tape.

They said they have since began investigations.

Said Mr Marange: “We are investigating this case and so far we have interviewed the girl who interestingly is asserting that she is now married to this student teacher. But we still have many unanswered questions and we have decided to summon the girl’s parents for a meeting.”

Efforts to get a comment from Nyambonga were after he failed to show up despite promising to do so.

Dube’s mother, who declined to be named said that she would rather have her daughter married to Nyambonga because no man would ever love her because of the sex tape.

Apart from the Dube se* tape, the school authorities revealed that they were also handling another sex scandal involving Kevin Katsande and several other girls at the school. Kevin is Willard Katsande’s young brother.

Willard Katsande arrived at the school when The Weekender was conducting interviews over the issue.

He was quickly approached to comment on the case involving his brother.

“I have come to talk to the school authorities about my young brother’s case. The rape allegations that are being laid against him are fake. The aspect of consensual se* cannot be ruled out.” – state media

Mukupe Taken To Court On Another Debt

Terrence Mukupe

FINANCE deputy minister Terrence Mukupe continues to swim in debt with a local school joining the long list of institutions that have taken him to court over debts.

The school, which could not be named to protect the minister’s minor children, filed its summons against Mukupe on June 18, claiming the minister owed

$29 948 fees for his two children.

“Defendant (Mukupe) is the parent and natural guardian of two minor children (names withheld). As per the educational services offered to the defendant’s children, plaintiff (name withheld) charged tuition and levy for the same,” the school said in its declaration under case number HC5614/18.

“The customer ledger for the defendant shows that the defendant owes the plaintiff a total of $29 948 for the services rendered to the defendant’s children. The period for the amount above is August 2017 to April 2018. The above amount is still owing and accruing interest. Despite demand, defendant has failed, neglected, denied and/or delayed to pay the capital debt in question,” the school’s lawyers, Musoni Masasire Law Chambers, said.

Mukupe is yet to respond to the litigation.

On Wednesday, a Harare magistrate ordered Mukupe to return a mobile phone handset, Samsung S7 Edge, he allegedly grabbed from NewsDay journalist Blessed Mhlanga following an altercation which occurred during a live radio programme early this month.

Magistrate Richard Ramaboea ruled in favour of the provisional order prepared by the journalist’s lawyer Chris Mhike.

Just recently, Trust Holdings’ banking subsidiary, Trust Bank Corporation (Ltd), petitioned the High Court seeking Mukupe’s incarceration over a five-year old $32 593 debt.

Mukupe, who is Zanu PF’s Harare East aspiring Member of Parliament, had obtained a loan from the financial institution.

Sometime last month, a Chinese-owned construction company also approached the court seeking an order to compel Mukupe to pay $28 000 following a botched building agreement signed between the parties in February this year.

In April this year, a local seed company, Seed Co Zimbabwe (Pvt) Ltd, also petitioned the High Court seeking Mukupe’s incarceration following his failure to pay $15 000 for seeds supplied to him in December 2013.

Madhuku Wants To Write A New Constitution

Lovemore Madhuku

Professor Lovemore Madhuku says he will lead a process to write a new, “people-driven” Constitution to replace the current one which was a product of negotiation between Zimbabwe’s main political parties, zanu-pf and MDC formations in 2013.

Prof Madhuku, a law lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe (UZ), is a perennial campaigner for constitutionalism and his party, the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA), was born out of a movement advocating for a new national charter at the turn of the millennium.

Prof Madhuku says his party is not anachronistic as it is also focused on addressing major socio-economic challenges facing the country.

“If we succeed in our endeavours, this country will get a genuinely new, democratic and people-driven Constitution,” he said in an interview yesterday.

“The (2013 (Constitution-making) process was a defective process; the process was actually a zanu-pf and MDC process which was then sold under the misleading notion that it was the people but we all know that the Constitution did not come from the people — it came from those two political parties and we can never be cheated. That is why we are standing alone as a party and the future will know that the generations of 2013 were cheated by the two political parties and the NCA is going on to the political stage to demolish that.

“So, we will certainly urge a new process that will repeal the current constitution. The current constitution cannot be a constitution: it is so much centred on one person — the President — and that cannot be a Constitution.”

MDC-T Members Demand Welshman Ncube Out Or “Bhora Musango”

MDC Alliance in deep trouble

By Paul Nyathi
|Shurugwi South constituency MDC-T members have petitioned their leader Nelson Chamisa to get a Welshman Ncube MDC member to withdraw as a candidate for the MDC Alliance coalition in the constituency or they won’t vote for the alliance.

In a petition dated June 17, sent out to Chamisa, the MDC-T members called on him to resolve the issue of the parliamentary candidate for the constituency saying they were not comfortable with the seat being reserved for the candidate from the Ncube-led MDC.

The members demanded that MDC-T member Daniel Mabonga should represent the alliance as Shurugwi South candidate alleging that Ocead Mutunami of Ncube’s party was not popular in the area.

Mabonga recently filed his nomination papers as an independent candidate after he was advised that the seat had been reserved for Mutunami.

“The community in Shurugwi South is very worried about having two candidates with one under MDC Alliance and the other one as independent,” said the members in the petition.

“The community who include chiefs, priests and village heads had spread in the constituency that the alliance candidate is Mabonga after you had declared to them that he was the candidate. What has changed now? How can we have an unkown candidate who stays in South Africa representing Shurugwi South?”

The MDC-T national chairman Morgen Komichi on Monday gave an ultimatum to all party members registered as independent candidates to withdraw their nominations by end of day on Wednesday. Mabonga did not withdraw with the members calling on Mutunami to instead withdraw.

They said Mabonga had covered much ground in the constituency using his own resources.

“The situation needs attention to avoid dividing votes,” the petition further read.

“MDC Alliance Shurugwi South District does not recognise him. Infact he (Mutunami) never visited them (MDC-T Shurugwi district members) for a courtesy call but moves alone throwing T-shirts like confetti (sic).”

MDC Alliance Midlands South provincial spokesperson, Munyaradzi Mutandavari confirmed that Mabonga was among party members who filed as independent candidates in the province.

Croatia Cuts Out Messi For Argentina

Lionel Messi after the merciless massacre by Croatia on Thursday night.

By Paul Nyathi|Argentina are facing the prospect of an early World Cup exit after a dreadful error from goalkeeper Willy Caballero set Croatia on their way to victory and a place in the last 16.

On a night when so much was expected of Argentina captain Lionel Messi, Caballero made the most telling contribution to his team’s fate with an attempted chip over Ante Rebic that backfired badly, allowing the striker to volley into an exposed net in the 53rd minute.

Messi – adrift for much of the match, especially during a pedestrian opening half – rallied his side, but neither he nor substitute forwards Gonzalo Higuain and Pablo Dybala could find a way through in Nizhny Novgorod.

The closest Messi came was a half-chance, a snatch at a rebound from a Maximiliano Meza shot which was blocked by Ivan Rakitic and turned behind to safety.

It was a dogged defensive second-half display from Croatia, illuminated by a moment of magic from their own masterful number 10, Luka Modric.

His curled shot from range drifted beautifully beyond Caballero’s gloves to put his side two ahead, before Rakitic’s injury-time tap-in sealed a victory that moves the Europeans through to the knockout stage and also leaves them in a strong position to win the group.

Argentina are no longer in control of their own destiny. This defeat follows their opening 1-1 draw with Iceland, in which Messi missed a penalty, and now even a heavy win over Nigeria in their final game on Tuesday may not be enough to send them through to the next round.

Should Iceland beat Nigeria in their second Group D game on Friday, Iceland would need only a draw against Croatia in their final match.

For Messi, a prolific performer at club level with Barcelona, this was another harrowing chapter in his recent history of pain and disappointment in the international game.

“We Can Stop The Election,” MDC Alliance Threatens ZEC

James Timba

By Paul Nyathi|The country’s biggest opposition party the MDC Alliance has warned buoyant Zimbabwe Electoral Commission ZEC that it can stop the 2018 General election from going ahead as scheduled.

The opposition party said this in a statement responding to ZEC chairperson Priscilla Chigumba’s infamous declaration that nothing except an earthquake would stop the elections from going ahead.

Addressing her inaugural weekly media briefing on Monday, Justice Chigumba said the July 30 harmonised elections could not be stopped for whatever reason, with aggrieved candidates only being able to challenge the outcome of the polls.

“Once the President has proclaimed the election date, there is nothing short of an earthquake which can stop the election, so whether candidates scrutinise the voters’ roll, whether they see any anomalies in it, whatever the anomalies are, whatever legal recourse they have will not stop the election,” she said.

“I want that to be very clear that is the law.”

Chigumba made the dogmatic declaration following the MDC Alliance submissions that the election should not go ahead before some major reforms to the electoral process are implemented.

MDC Alliance presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa’s chief election agent James Timba said Zec should apologise to the people of Zimbabwe for election hiccups including the delays in availing the voters roll rather than saying only an earthquake will stop the election.

“We do recognise and respect Zec’s role as a referee in this election, but it is important that Zec understands that other than an earthquake, the players on July 30 can stop the election by refusing to participate in a shame election,” said Timba.

“In addition, outside an earthquake, and the players, the people of Zimbabwe who are tired of these shenanigans can refuse to participate in the said shame election that would have failed to meet the test outlined in our constitution and the enabling electoral act and Zec regulations irrespective of what Zec says.

MDC Alliance supporters demonstrate against ZEC on election reforms recently.

“Zec’s efforts must, therefore, be directed at assuring the public that it is doing all it can to conduct a free, fair and credible election and be seen to be doing so. That’s their duty period.”

Timba said Chigumba’s utterances were a serious cause for concern.

“With all due respect to the chairperson of Zec, Justice Chigumba, these utterances are not expected from a public officer whose task amongst others is to instil confidence in an electoral process by assuring the nation that preparations for the plebiscite are being done with due care and transparently,” he said.

A record 23 presidential candidates were cleared by Zec last week to contest in the harmonised elections set for July 30.

Analaysts said it would be impossible to stop the elections because of an MDC Alliance boycott, considering the high number of candidates and political parties that are partcipating in the election.

TRUE or STUPID? Herald Says Chamisa Wants To Manipulate The Voters’ Roll To Win Polls

FULL TEXT:

MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa recently swore to his supporters in Chiredzi that he was sure to win the forthcoming presidential election. “It’s now or never,” he declared in his trademark excitable fashion.

If his wish; not that of the people; does not prevail in the elections, scheduled for July 30, Chamisa has threatened violence. More offensively, on several occasions he has threatened to block the holding of the harmonised elections if his “electoral demands” are not met. He doesn’t care how many other people, the other 22 presidential aspirants included, want them to go ahead.

Two weeks ago, Chamisa and his Alliance staged a demonstration in Harare, to press for the so-called electoral reforms. Wisely, the Government let the alliance enjoy its moment of triumph, strutting on the stage and making all sorts of dire threats before handing over to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission their petition.

(We hope election observers and other visitors to our beautiful and peaceful country will quickly realise that Chamisa’s threats belong to a previous era, another dispensation which Zimbabweans broadly consigned to history in November 2017. He inherited its methods without the tools of State and power, and is deploying its language at every turn.)

Last week, ZEC chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba responded to the petition, indicating some of the demands were outside the ZEC remit while others reeked of “mischief”.

We don’t need to remind anybody that Zimbabwe is enjoying its most peaceful ever pre-election period. That President Mnangagwa has allowed all political players to enjoy the freedoms enshrined in the Constitution. He has also declared his commitment for the country to hold peaceful, free, fair, transparent and credible elections.

This last week he went out of his way, offering to fulfil his pledge to meet the other 22 presidential contestants before elections so that they speak to their respective supporters the same message of peace, love, unity and hope. This has not been reciprocated by his challengers.

Tellingly, it is only Chamisa and his party who have insisted on the language of violence. Without ever promising to respect the outcome of the elections, Chamisa has instead sought to drag the military into the mud, demanding that they make a public declaration to respect his presumed victory.

Lately, the MDC Alliance has ganged up with foreign-funded NGOs, in particular Veritas, to try to cripple ZEC’s operations through a torrent of court cases. They want access to servers for the biometric voters’ roll. They want to be involved in the selection of the supplier of material for the ballot papers, to be involved in the selection of the printer, to be involved in the printing and storage of the papers.

Last week they escalated their demands, asking ZEC not only for both the hard copy and electronic version of the voters’ roll. They want what they describe as “analysable” voters’ roll.

Justice Chigumba would know better which section of the law allows for what appear to be petty, vexatious and preposterous demands. But we sense something utterly sinister. These are people who have condemned the outcome of the elections more than a month before they are held. That tells us they want an analysable voters’ roll which they can manipulate by altering dates or names or deleting data, all to discredit Justice Chigumba in person and ZEC as an institution.

Their language tells us they are spoiling for a fight and will find every excuse to claim to have been cheated by ZEC. But before we even get that far, it is instructive that ZEC has become the sole focus of their attacks. The aim being to frustrate Justice Chigumba and force her to quit, to create maximum chaos a few weeks before election date.

That would be another major victory for Chamisa who wants elections only on his own terms, not in accordance with the law.

Since the launch of Operation Restore Legacy Zimbabwe has enjoyed peace and unparalleled freedom by all political parties. A whole nation can’t be held to ransom by the vaulting ambition of one man who thinks he is God’s anointed.

Chamisa Wins: Khupe Loses Case Against Gift Banda

A Correspondent| The renegade former MDC Deputy President Thokozani Khupe’s case against Chairman Mr Gift Banda who is part of 5 of the 12 activists she accused of violence earlier this year, has flopped

Bulawayo Magistrate Sithembile Ncube yesterday acquitted five of the 12 Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) members charged with contravening section 36(1) (a)(b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23 (Public Violence).
