Chamisa Promises His Own “New Dispensation” Govt In Which All Leaders Will Speak Ndebele

Below are highlights of MDC leader, Nelson Chamisa’s address to Bulawayo last week.

Chamisa extended a heartfelt thank you to the people of Bulawayo for their show of support with a huge turnout for the MDC Alliance rally on Saturday at the White City Stadium.

Chamisa said “It was a heartening sojourn into the city of Kings and Queens at the weekend as the ambience and camaraderie amply testified to a city ready to step into a new country.

The crowd was huge, the atmosphere at the White City Stadium was electric and
scintillating, arguably our biggest crowd so far.”

“The huge crowd that turned up at White City stadium on Saturday in its own unique way answered its own questions and stood testimony to the successful rebranding that the party has undergone and the growing confidence and faith that the people continue to repose in our democratic movement.

“I saw the old and the desperate, the young and the impatient, the restless and the carefree all ready to walk into a novel moment-a new Zimbabwe. Bulawayo
showed it was a city all set to step out and meet a new destiny. I saw a people ready
and prepared to shake the hand of destiny and to behold the new,” Chamisa
added.

Addressing the throng, Chamisa said in a new dispensation, the MDC wants to make sure that it is compulsory for national leaders to speak all the major languages in Zimbabwe.

“We do not want language imperialism in a new Zimbabwe. We do not want language
cleansing, where you dwarf other people’s language but you want to advance your
own. We are correcting that. It starts with your President,” he said.

“We do not want the Zanu PF culture of bastardising other communities,” he
added.

Chamisa spoke of a new governance culture in which civil servants are
not victimized for serving under an administration. He said it is the politicians
whose terms of office are altered by the people who elect them, not the civil
servants.

“Politicians are the ones who are elected, not civil servants. In a new government our
civil servants will know that their service is service to the people and not to a party.
Zanu PF does not know the difference.

Party and government are different. We need to ensure this distinction is in place.
No one should be victimized for serving in government at any given point,” he said.

He added that in the month of April, which the MDC has declared to be independence
month, it is important to redefine why that struggle was fought and how the new
generation can embrace the celebration of independence as equals knowing they too
fought for the independence of this nation.

He said independence was attained so that people could lead a better life, not the constant struggles people endure in this generation.

“We did not attain independence to see the problems we face this day. We did not
attain Independence for the suffering and fracturing we are seeing in this country. We
did not attain independence to victimize people,” Chamisa said.

He added that devolution of power was a constitutional requirement that need to
be upheld in order for the nation to start developing.

The current government has failed to implement and respect the provisions of
the constitution.

“We want areas like Matopo to be elevated to town status. It is possible. We want
devolution. Let us devolve power and authority. Devolution is our revolution.

We want to ensure Bulawayo returns to its status as an industrial hub,” he said.

Chamisa took a swipe at the government interference in the Khumalo
throne saying the government should allow communities to deal with their chieftaincy
alone according to their cultures.

“Leave the Khumalo clan do what they know best according to their culture. Leave
them alone. We must respect our culture.

Going forward, we want Matopo to be the center of annual cultural celebrations,” he
said.

Chamisa also took time to visit the Joshua Nkomo memorial museum as part of the party’s thrust to commemorate Independence month.  – Changing Times

UK Ambassador Says – Zimbabweans Must Feel Confident they Can Vote for Party Of their Choice

The British ambassador to Zimbabwe, Catriona Laing has spoken following criticism from the opposition party, MDC  -T.

Below was her full statement:

Elections aren’t far off in Zimbabwe – likely just three or four months away. The British embassy and its partners here in Zimbabwe have welcomed the commitments of the government of President Emmerson Mnangagwa to ensure those elections are free, fair and violence-free.

But commitments must be translated into real change. We and our partners continue to urge President Mnangagwa to implement the reforms necessary so that free and fair polls can be held and Zimbabweans can enjoy the future the deserve. As the UK’s ambassador to Zimbabwe Catriona Laing says, a successful election will be a “key milestone” in allowing Zimbabwe to return to normal economic and political relations with the international community.
She added: “Going forward it will be very important that there is full transparency around the voters roll and the ballot papers and that the necessary legal frameworks are updated in line with the constitution. Ultimately it is for the people of Zimbabwe to feel confident that they can vote for the party and individuals of their choice without fear or intimidation.

Need for reforms, no to political violence
Embassy officials have been meeting representatives of all the main political parties here regularly (as is the job of any embassy) and we’ve delivered exactly the same message to each party. To the government of President Mnangagwa, the UK has highlighted at the highest level the need for reforms before the polls: our Foreign Minister Boris Johnson made that position clear when he met Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa in February as (a few weeks earlier) did our Minister for Africa Harriett when she visited Harare. This has been our message right from the start: that it is only free and fair elections that will open the door to full international re-engagement. We have urged the government to allow in international observers – and we’ve been encouraged by early indications this week that this may happen. As those who follow our social media accounts will know, we’ve encouraged the new administration to make sure ALL human rights violations are tackled decisively and transparently. We have and will take up any instances of political violence with the authorities, wherever in Zimbabwe these occur and whoever is behind the violence.

BVR and support to civil society
Because voter registration and the compiling of a voters’ roll is so crucial in the holding of free and fair polls, we’ve been monitoring the biometric voter registration process from when it began back in October last year. Our teams took the lead in travelling out to rural areas to see the reality of how the registration process was progressing far from the capital Harare. The teams gave feedback to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, the minister of justice and to civil society organisations.
The UK and other donors work together to provide extensive financial and technical assistance to a wide range of civil society organisations in Zimbabwe. Our support enables and empowers these organisations to hold the state to account for its use of resources and its respect for human rights and democratic principles. Already our support for civil society is having an impact in improving access to media and information for Zimbabweans. UK support is key in promoting human rights and equality in Zimbabwe. Through it, we are improving access to justice for the marginalised – and we’re helping push for transparency and citizen engagement in the use of public resources.

Support for election litigation
As far as elections are concerned, support from the UK, and other donors, will allow domestic election bodies to carry out their critical work to provide oversight of the process and environment. Crucially, we’ve already supported a programme of litigation on local election issues – to make sure that electoral practice is in line with the constitution. Said Ambassador Laing: “Elections are of course just one part of the government’s constitutional commitments to good governance, human rights and rule of law. We look forward to seeing ongoing progress in all these areas as part of constructive dialogue with the government of Zimbabwe, its Commissions, opposition and civil society.”

MILITARY TAKEOVER: Like It or Not Zimbabwe Has Moved to Another Level

By George Chinyande| Liking it or not Zimbabwe has moved to another level. Whether that level is higher or lower depends on one’s own stupidity and idiocy.

The girl in the picture here above thinks Zimbabwe (click to read) has moved to a lower level meaning her level of idiocy and stupidity has also moved to another higher. When then Major General Sibusiso Moyo declared that “our country has moved to another level” definitely he was not lying at all. Zimbabweans spent close to 2 decades fighting a blood sucking failed senile dictator Mr ROBERT MUGABE and prayed non stop to God to offer His hand to dispose him. No one ever since creation knew or knows in what form, type and shape and hour God’s response comes.

For Zimbabwe it came through operation restore legacy which no single prophet of the several thousands claiming to be in Zimbabwe today prophesied its coming and the former cruel and failed senile dictator Mr ROBERT MUGABE was vanquished for good. Today fair minded Zimbabweans talk of a new era of democracy, human rights and freedoms. A recent independent media report revealed how for example some Mbare residents most of whom support Chinja are overjoyed with the new dispensation of unfolding democracy.

As recent as 3 days ago the chairman of Alpha Media group, who for years was more like an opposition politician could not hide his acknowledgement and realization that indeed Zimbabwe has since moved to a higher level. Even the way Dr Nero, the Bitis and Co go about doing their juvenile politics it shows and proves Zimbabwe has indeed moved to another level. Even their 5 masters representing neocons and warmongers in Washington DC who few days ago were here in Zimbabwe were shamed to discover that she has since moved to another level and what remains is how to make it sustainable.

Unfortunately it is few brothers and sisters like the one in picture above, the Bitis and bedfellows whose idiocy and foolishness have moved several degrees higher. In fact their stupidity has worsened ever since the new dispensation of unfolding democracy conforming to the old adage that give a fool enough rope to hang himself. Only a fool can bask in the past when the rest of society has moved to another level.

Only real political fools think by delving into the past that can make them win a key election fast approaching. Only fools can not see Dr Nero’s idiocy and foolishness of longing for former cruel and failed senile dictator Mr ROBERT Mugabe’s one vote and at the same denigrate the new dispensation of unfolding democracy brought about by President ED.

Only an idiot who hasn’t moved to another level when Zimbabwe has moved to another level can embrace known expelled Zanu PF political thugs like Jaboon, Shadi, Wrong Bhasikiti and the like who once terrorised and tormented chinjas but still malign the new dispensation of unfolding democracy. A good and clean person like what Chinjas claim they are must never show affection and affinity with dirty politics of hate or remain holed in former cruel and failed senile dictator Mr ROBERT Mugabe’s sociology, politics and economics of rancor and malice. Good shall always be good. Let’s move away from evil politics fellow countrymen and women. It does not help. Hati fambei nenguva.

UK Govt’s DFID Advises Mnangagwa To Review the Land Policy

By Terrence Mawawa| The British Government’s donor wing, the Department For International Development has insisted on three policy changes it proposes are key to reviving the economy.

Speaking at the launch of Zimbabwe’s Agriculture policy at the Harare International Conference Centre, DFID’s Head of DFID Zimbabwe and South Africa, Annabel Gerry emphasised three areas which are Building confidence for private sector investment, Strategic use of agriculture subsidies, and thirdly, Creating a predictable policy environment.

At the afternoon function covered by ZimEye.com, she said, “I would just like to mention three policy issues that we see as critical, to enable jobs and growth and to build the agricultural sector: the first one is very obvious – building confidence and attracting private sector investments.

“We would want to see an agricultural policy that would safeguard property, and a review of the Land policy, and implementation to revise the indigenization policy will be able to provide the (property) safeguards.

“These are difficult issues but ultimately the progress of the country seems not to be made unless Zimbabweans can talk to themselves and it is for Zimbabweans to resolve how to manage those issues,” she said.

She continued saying the government must also look into a “policy that supports the increased role of the private sector…” VIDEO LOADING – refresh to watch:

Mugabe To ED: Keep Your Zimbabwe I Will Keep My Blue Roof

By Farai D Hove| ANALYSIS| As he prepares himself to shoot off into eternity, perhaps from his Blue Roof residence, former president Robert Mugabe has told his successor, Emmerson Mnangagwa he is no longer interested in returning to the presidency.

The 94 year old who once swore that he would be President till he is 100 years old, that he would “rule Zimbabwe with firmness,” and also that people who disagree with him must either conform or suffer, says he is not returning to state house.

Mugabe accuses Mnangagwa of betrayal.

“I never thought he whom I have nurtured, brought into government and whose life I worked hard in prison to save as he was threatened with hanging, that one day he would turn against me,” he said of Mnangagwa on this day exactly a month ago.

He also spoke about the horrors of the military takeover in November last year.

“Imagine. They sent 40,000 soldiers against a woman(his wife, Grace) ,’’ she tells me.

“Am I really that dangerous?’’

Mugabe told the British ITV news it was never his plan to install her as the next president.

“All that is rubbish,’’ he said.

He also rejected the accusation she tried to have Mnangagwa poisoned: “She would never do that, she is a Christian.’’

On the military takeover, Mugabe said,
“I say it was a coup d’etat – some people have refused to call it a coup d’etat,” said Mugabe referring to the brief army takeover which led to Emmerson Mnangagwa assuming power after Mugabe’s resignation.

“We must undo this disgrace which we have imposed on ourselves, we don’t deserve it… Zimbabwe doesn’t deserve it,” he said.

On the presidency, Mugabe said, “I don’t want to be president, no of course,” he said. “I’m now 94.”

Mugabe told the SABC and the British ITV News he did not hate the 75 year old Mnangagwa but alleged that he had “betrayed the whole nation”.

Cornered Grace Mugabe Heaves Sigh Of Relief

Grace Mugabe

The former First Family got a reprieve this week when a mining syndicate that took them to court seeking an order to collect its mining equipment and gold ore from the family’s Smithfield Farm in Mazowe withdrew its application.

The syndicate led by Shepherd Nyazvigo had filed an urgent application at the High Court after they were driven out of the mineral-rich farm. The miners withdrew the application without giving
reasons.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP)’s Support Unit officer-in-charge and Gushungo Holdings chief security officer were listed as respondents.

“Take notice that applicants hereby withdraw their urgent chamber application against second respondent and will tender wasted costs,” read the notice of withdrawal filed on March 26 this year.
In their application, the gold miners claimed that they were ejected from the farm in 2013 by Gushungo Holdings’ officers and members of the
police force ostensibly because their mining claims fell within a protected zone.
When they queried the move by the Mugabe family, the mining commissioner – only identified as I.N. Chihota – told them that Smithfield Farm did not
fall within a protected zone.

According to the mining syndicate, Mr Chihota then ordered Gushungo Holdings (Private Limited) and other members of the security forces that were deployed at the farm not to interfere with mining
operations.

The miners claimed that the ruling by the mining commissioner fell on deaf ears.
But after November’s military intervention, which resulted in Mr Robert Mugabe’s resignation, the syndicate decided to move back to their mining claims and resumed operations, which resulted in the legal wrangle that spilled into the High Court.
The former First Family is alleged to have since deployed its security on Smithfield Farm and stopped the syndicate from further carrying out mining operations – state media

May the Spirit of Gushungo RG Mugabe Live in the Minds and Hearts Of …

Kerina Mujati

By Kerina Mujati| When Malema spoke on Saturday, he spoke the truth of our pathetic Politics. They used to say VaMugabe chete chete and DrAmai.

21 November 2017 till today they call President Mugabe an Evil man who they refer to as a Dictator who married a “prostitute”. Are they honest to themselves? Who made President Mugabe a Dictator and who used to kneel to his “prostitute” as they seek approval to be the 1st son or daughter whilst they sing Dr Amai praises? They ululated, danced and declared their loyalty to President Mugabe when Emmerson Mnangagwa was threatened to be sacked.

They distanced themselves from Emmerson Mnangagwa who they were calling a “toothless lizard” and referred to him as a treasonous Judas Iscariot, a traitor of Zanu PF and the great icon President Mugabe. 2 weeks later they were the same imbeciles singing praises of Emmerson Mnangagwa.

That’s the f**kery in our Zimbabwean Politics not only the betrayal Malema spoke of ANC to Mama Winnie Mandela. They are unprincipled and incompetent pseudo revolutionaries who are where they are today in those high positions of authority not by merit but backstabbing, deceit and bootlicking.

They follow power and are not guided by any ideology only greediness and selfish accumulation of riches at the expense of the suffering masses. They are our enemies. They made President Mugabe the “dictator” as they had shown him that they were “sissies” with no balls to condemn what he was failing as a leader.

They created the Mugabe and Winnie they turned out to hate. We see them, we know them and we don’t want them in our politics as they are worst than a dog infested in rabbies hence our fear that we all become as rabid as they are. The sad reality of our politics many give a blind eye. May Mama Winnie rest in peace.

May the spirit of Gushungo RG Mugabe live in the minds and hearts of those who truly believe in the true Black Empowerment that comes with no conditions. The scumbags will do it to Enmerson Mnangagwa if any opportunity arises….. Asante Sana. #cd3sistermwenewazvo#

Military Coup Must Be Reversed – Biti

NATIONAL, BUSINESS, BREAKING

By Farai D Hove| MDC Alliance principal, Tendai Biti yesterday said the November military coup was unconstitutional.

Biti was speaking at the MDC Alliance rally in Tembisa.

He said the upcoming election, “is the most important election of our lifetime, iwe neni, because it is an election to wrestle away power from those who seized it unconstitutionally in November 2017 back to the people of Zimbabwe.”

He began by saying, “our message this afternoon as the message of the Alliance is very simple. It is time that we transformed our country, it is time that we created opportunities in our country, that all of us we go back home and live a prosperous life. so we have three things.”

Biti then spoke on what he referred to as, “TOP” -transformation, opportunities, and prosperity.’

“It’s a top agenda, TOP said Biti. In November 2017, a military coup took place in our country led by Emmerson Mnangagwa. But this coup was not the first coup to take place in our country. We know there was another coup to prevent Morgan Tsvangirai from becoming President Of Zimbabwe in June 2008.

“So this election, the election of 2018, is the most important election of our lifetime, iwe neni, because it is an election to wrestle away power from those who seized it unconstitutionally in November 2017 back to the people of Zimbabwe, you and me; But this election is also to finish the unfinished business of the liberation struggle.

“This election is also to undo the wrongs of ZANU PF, the crimes of commission, the crimes of omission. Zvinotirwadza, I look at you and say what are you here in this country? You are are here, and we are here because we have a country that stopped treating us as citizens…that has forced us in our millions to leave Zimbabwe to live in this difficult country. I know some of you are domestic workers, some of you are waiters in restaurants.”

Mnangagwa To Fire Green Bombers Again

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration is set to fire green bombers again, indications from the Finance Ministry show.

In the latest development, Finance Minister, Patrick Chinamasa has ordered the Civil Service Commission (CSC) to revise its method of firing the contracts for the over 3 000 youth officers.

This comes after the court ruled that it had failed to comply with the law in firing them.

The Green Bombers engaged lawyers after their dismissal arguing that procedure had not been followed. Government was then forced to reinstate them and Chinamasa said,  “with respect to youth officers, as you aware, they took the matter to court and the court ruled that the procedures were not followed.”

Chinamasa was further cited by the state media saying, “so, we directed the Civil Service Commission to follow the procedures and to see that the decision we took (as Cabinet) is implemented. I think the commission will follow the right procedures which they may not have taken.”

UK: Man Brandishes Fake Gun At Kids, Jailed For 10 Years

By UK Police – A man whose use of an imitation firearm caused youths to flee in terror has been jailed for over 10 years.

Peter Brown, 29 (06.04.1989) of Hope Street, Stamford-Lee-Hope was sentenced to 10 years and nine months at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, 13 April.

He had pleaded guilty at the same court on Tuesday, 10 April, to possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear or violence.

The court heard how on Friday, 25 August 2017 at 19:00hrs, a group of young men were in Wellington Road, Newham.

Suddenly a car pulled up and the back doors opened and CCTV recorded two handguns being brandished at the youths. Understandably, the young men can then be seen to run away in terror.

As the car drove off, it stopped for moments and the guns were brandished again, and then the car made off.

A member of the public had seen the incident and alerted police.

An immediate investigation was begun by detectives from the Trident and Area Crime Command.

Brown was identified as being the driver of the car seen in the CCTV.

He was arrested at his home address on Sunday, 2 September 2017 and charged the next day and kept in custody.

Detective Rob Jones of Trident, said: “Although nobody was injured, brandishing a pistol at people causing them to fear they will be shot is a despicable act. This offence took place opposite a children’s playground on a warm summers evening. Those who were threatened can be seen on CCTV running for their lives. Incidents like this cause fear in communities and are traumatic for all those who witness it.

“Detectives at Trident were determined to find who was responsible and Brown was quickly arrested. Thanks to the evidence gathered he had no option but to plead guilty. Possession of firearms, be they imitation or not, will not be taken lightly and punished accordingly by the courts.”

Brown was also sentenced for an unrelated matter of fraud by mis-representation where two elderly women at cash points were distracted by Brown and a co-defendant, who then took the cards when the women went into the bank thinking they had been taken by the cash machine; £1,400 in cash was withdrawn. He was sentenced to three months for each offence to run concurrently.

Relations between Zimbabwe and Britain are set to improve following the new dispensation led by President Mnangagwa.

Zimbabwe has been invited to the Commonwealth Heads of State Summit that begins in Britain today and ends on Sunday, albeit on observer status ahead of planned re-admission into the bloc before year-end.

Recently, British Prime Minister Theresa May was impressed by statements made by President Mnangagwa on economic and political reforms, which have sent important signals around the world about the country’s readiness for investment.

Prime Minister May sent her envoy Mr Rory Stewart, who was then Minister of State for Africa, to meet President Mnangagwa a few hours after his inauguration on November 24 last year.

In February, Prime Minister May sent another envoy, Mrs Harriet Baldwin, who succeeded Mr Stewart as Minister of State for Africa, to meet President Mnangagwa.

Mrs Baldwin said Zimbabwe and Britain were on the cusp of a major diplomatic breakthrough that could see the two countries soon engaging in various investment ventures underpinned on mutual benefit and interest.

She was in Zimbabwe making her first overseas official visit following her appointment as Minister of State for Africa in a Cabinet reshuffle.

Mrs Baldwin held a meeting with President Mnangagwa and discussed wide-ranging issues on mutual relations and the new era in Zimbabwe.

“Given the latest events that are happening in the ruling party, the affected legislators have decided to take the game to Rugeje.

Rugeje ordered the Provincial Executive Committee to turn down the CVs from the MPs.

They are being victimised so appropriate measures are underway as part of efforts to resolve debacle,” said the Chiredzi based PA.

Drama As Khuphe Recalls Chamisa From Parliament

Nelson Chamisa recalled from parliament

By Paul Nyathi|The MDC-T dramatic wrangle for power between Nelson Chamisa and Thokozani Khuphe continues intriguing with information that Khuphe has sent a letter to parliament recalling Chamisa from the august house.

Chamisa who was endorsed as the President of the MDC-T by the party National Council in February got Khuphe out of Parliament last week when he wrote a letter to the Speaker saying that Khuphe was no longer a member of the party.

Khuphe however claims that she is the bona fide leader of the party having been elected as it’s Deputy President in three congresses.

She claims that according to the party constitution she was meant to be the party acting President until a special congress elected a leader to replace the late founding President Morgan Tsvangirai.

Part of the letter sent to the speaker of parliament by Khuphe reads;

“This letter serves to formally advise your office that Hon Nelson Chamisa is no longer a member of the MDC-T party that is currently led by acting president Thokozani Khupe.

“Hon Chamisa’s membership of the party has been terminated after he has wilfully and deliberately violated the constitution of the MDC-T by passing himself off as the president of the party.”

Section 129(1)(k) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe says: “If the member has ceased to belong to the political party of which he or she was a member when elected to Parliament and the political party concerned, by written notice to the Speaker or President of the Senate, as the case may be, has declared that the member has ceased to belong to it.”

Spokesperson of Dr Khupe’s camp Obert Gutu confirmed to the media that their faction had recalled Chamisa.

“I can confirm that our leader, Dr Khupe, wrote to the Speaker of the National Assembly to ask him to recall Mr Chamisa from Parliament.

“We feel that this is the right thing to do and in line with the constitution of our party.

“We expect the Speaker of Parliament to respond promptly and act accordingly to our request because Madam Khupe is the legitimate leader of the MDC-T.”

On Saturday Khupe’s lawyer – Professor Lovemore Madhuku – told state run media that he will file a Constitutional Court appeal on Monday challenging his client’s expulsion from Parliament.

“Our arguments are that Parliament is abusing its privileges. The Speaker cannot decide who or not to believe,” said Dr Madhuku.

“We have chosen the Constitutional Court because the High Court has handled matters like this previously, but it has not given its justification for taking sides so we feel that there is need to look at the constitutional provisions.

“There is no basis for saying that a person who has been voted into office can be recalled on the basis of a letter.”

MNANGAGWA BLAST: Expensive Shiny Brand New Cars And 15 Million Caps And T Shirts Purchased for Elections

Expensive brand new cars are seen being moved through the borders.

Expensive brand new cars are seen being moved through the borders. They are already painted in ZANU PF colours in preparation for the upcoming elections. They’re part of a large fleet being imported by the ruling party as it gears for the polls.

Zanu PF has refused to disclose the source of millions of dollars oiling its campaign machinery ahead of crucial elections later this year after former Higher and Tertiary Education minister Jonathan Moyo exposed the ruling party’s abuse of State resources to fund its participation in previous polls.

Moyo, who fled Zimbabwe in November last year when the military moved to topple former president Robert Mugabe, revealed that in previous elections, Zanu PF spent a staggering $70 million buying campaign regalia from China and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The former Zanu PF strategist claimed the money was diverted from diamond revenues and warned similar manoeuvres were already being made to bankroll President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s campaign.

This was after Zanu PF commissar retired Lieutenant-General Engelbert Rugeje revealed that the ruling party had bought 15 million T-shirts, 15 million caps and two million body wrappers for women.

Moyo claimed Mnanagwa used the trip to China to get campaign materials and State funds were abused. According to Zanu PF’s own records, the party is insolvent.
Last year, Zanu PF had a $19 million debt and membership card sales, its key revenue source, were down by a 75%.

The ruling party had a $1,2 million outstanding telephone bill and its companies were insolvent.
Zanu PF secretary for finance Patrick Chinamasa dismissed Moyo’s claims that the party was diverting money from State coffers to bankroll its campaign, but refused to disclose the source of the millions of dollars used to buy the regalia.

“That [Moyo’s claim] is obviously a lie. It’s false anyway,” he said. “That [source of funds] is confidential, but obviously we are on a fund-raising mission to raise the money to fund our elections.
“That we always do, but I am not in a position to give details of that.”

Obert Mpofu, the Zanu PF secretary for administration, also brushed aside Moyo’s allegations, but said he did not know where the money for the previous election campaign came from.
“It’s an allegation [$70 million diverted from sale of diamonds to fund the 2013 campaign] that will remain an allegation,” he said.

“I am not aware of that and the party has always mobilised its resources for its programmes.
“I have been secretary for finance of the party although by that time I wasn’t.

“I have no record whatsoever to confirm what he is saying.

“He was a member of the politburo, but I don’t think he was privy to the operations of the finance department.

“If he has evidence to that effect, let him provide it than to speculate on something that he has no record of.”

Mpofu said Zanu PF relied on its members to fund election campaigns. He said the party had already secured funds for this year’s campaign.

“We have resources and we are ready for the elections. All that needs to be done will be done. I can assure you the resources are not from any institution of government,” the Home Affairs minister added.

“We mobilise for elections like any other party does. Our system is very efficient. We always mobilise for our programmes and actually we have a very big membership in the country and our members alone contribute a substantial amount of our operational budget and no one should worry about that.

“[Moyo] was a politburo member and was also making contributions to the party. We have the biggest membership in the country and we have the biggest number of well-wishers in the country and even outside the country.”

Besides the regalia, Zanu PF has also bought top-of-the-range cars and buses to use ahead of the watershed elections. Mpofu could not be drawn into revealing how the vehicles would be used during the campaign.

“We have not yet publicly announced our programmes,” he said.“We are coming up with a big function to launch our manifesto and our roadmap and it is then that you will be told what Zanu PF intends to do in preparation for the elections.”

Former Finance minister Tendai Biti said Zanu PF had always abused State institutions during election campaigns.

“This shows that Zanu PF is a criminal party. It is a predatory party that has captured state institutions so these institutions have also become predatory and it’s a problem,” he said.
“It’s a criminal political party that has commodified the state. The state is now a commodity, the state can now be sold and this is what they are doing.

“This is why there are a lot of fights in African states because it’s a commodity open to the highest bidder. He who has money will capture the state.”

Biti, who is the leader of the opposition People’s Democratic Party, said the only way to end the abuse of state resources by the ruling party was to send those at the forefront of the looting to jail.
“The way forward is to send them to Chikurubi [Maximum Security Prison],” he charged.
“We should also make sure that there is genuine change in Zimbabwe so that these institutions become independent and serve the people of Zimbabwe, not a tired, old and bankrupt political party.”
His sentiments were echoed by MDC-T spokesperson Tabitha Khumalo, who said there was nothing new about the theft of government funds to fund Zanu PF activities.

“Zimbabweans are aware that Zanu PF has been looting resources of this country. This started soon after gaining independence. These people must be brought to book and be accountable,” she said.
“As the incoming government, we will make sure that those that have committed those crimes must pay back.

“We are sick and tired of living like nomads in our own country when others are munching into the national resources. This is so unacceptable,” she said.

Dewa Mavhinga, a political analyst, said nothing would stop Zanu PF from repeating the 2013 tactics in this year’s elections.
“Unfortunately, Zimbabwe’s anti-corruption institutions are either too weak or too partisan to effectively deal with such problems, leaving the door wide open for Zanu PF to again do the same in the 2018 elections,” he said.

Harare-based activist Patson Dzamara said there was need to build strong institutions to protect the country’s resources from plunder by selfish politicians.

“Since the attainment of independence, Zanu PF has plundered the resources of this nation on avarice and greed,” he said. “It’s totally repugnant how that party has treated Zimbabwe and its resources as its private property,” he said.

“There is just, but one way to stop this madness: we must vote Zanu PF out. Zimbabweans must resoundingly vote for a better Zimbabwe this year. We cannot afford to prolong our suffering.”
Harare Residents’ Trust director Mfundo Mlilo said the failure to separate the ruling party from the State was the root cause of most of Zimbabwe’s problems.

“The conflation of the state and party is a major political problem in Zimbabwe,” he said.
“There is widespread abuse of state resources both at the centre and even peripherally in state enterprises and even local authorities.

“It is the Achilles heel of the reform movement and opposition in the coming elections. It is a clear sign that the new administration is not new after all.”

Farai Maguwu, who rose to prominence while campaigning for transparency in the mining of Chiadzwa diamonds, said the $70 million figure raised by Moyo could be an understatement.
“We all know Zanu PF doesn’t run a single thriving company and yet they run very expensive campaigns,” he said. “They have bought hundreds of vehicles for the party and chiefs to ensure they win the forthcoming elections.

“Where is the money coming from? Is it part of the missing $15 billion stashed somewhere whilst our hospitals have become death traps?”

Former president Robert Mugabe once alleged $15 billion worth of diamonds were looted from Chiadzwa, but has since recanted the claims, saying he only threw in the figure to illustrate the extent of the plunder. Standard

Opposition Faction Leader Declared A Conman

Declared as a conman President Derreck Lupembe of ZimFirst faction.

By Paul Nyathi|The Maxwell Zeb Shumba led ZimFirst party has issued a public warning against the party faction leader Derreck Lupemba declaring him a fraudster.

A press statement released by the party’s information department on Saturday reads as follows:

Re: ZimFirst Presidential Candidate Dr. Maxwell Zeb Shumba and CODE Position

The ZimFirst Party herein communicates to the public and the media that a Dereck Lupemba who is issuing statements in the name of our party is no longer with ZimFirst. It is material fact that Dereck Lupemba was once appointed to the Presidential pre-election campaign national executive committee as non-elected office holder, a position he held until February 28, 2018.

ZimFirst Party is concerned with the reports that he has been approaching unsuspecting people seeking financial help using our party’s name, making claims that he is some Interim President of ZimFirst and claiming that ZimFirst is still a member of CODE. He is a fraud and those claims and the press statements he is issuing are both bogus and contemptuous. We wish to advise the public and the media that if they are approached by this man they need to inform ZimFirst via our email address at [email protected] or call the Party Spokesperson Pamela Nyabadza on +263738005226 or the Presidential Campaign National Executive Human Resources Director Mr. Peter Kanyuchi on +447786930281 or ZimFirst Campaign Chief Executive Officer Eleazar Hunter Gapare on +263772817507. Our party’s lawyer, Advocate Thomas Nyakunika of Mupindu Legal Practitioners is currently seized with this matter.

On CODE membership, we further reiterate the ZimFirst position that has been previously widely published in the media that ZimFirst Party officially left CODE on March 3, 2018 and accordingly ZimFirst was not party to the April 14, 2018 CODE launch. For the record, Dr. Maxwell Zeb Shumba will be the Presidential Candidate in the 2018 elections and the party is looking forward to a very competitive race as we are confident that he will be the best candidate on the ballot. We are also happy to inform all concerned citizens and stakeholders that ZimFirst has started preparing for elections in earnest and is currently going through its Candidates Selection process that is headed by the party’s Election Committee Chairman Mr. Kesari Nyathi. The Party expects to field candidates in all 210 constituencies. In addition, ZimFirst is currently focused on selling on its country first, people first vision under the able and credible leadership of our Presidential Candidate Dr. Maxwell Zeb Shumba.

Mphoko’s Blesser To Contest ZANU PF Primaries

Businessman Raj Modi going into politics.

By Paul Nyathi|The man who helped former Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko develop his Choppies Supermarkets brand in Zimbabwe, Mr Raj Modi has submitted his name to contest in the ZANU PF primaryelections set for May 5.

Modi who is probably Bulawayo’s wealthiest business man submitted his application to contest the Bulawayo South Constituency.

Modi ran the first Choppies Supermarket in the country before roping in Mphoko into the venture and eventually selling his stake to the former Vice President.

In a ZANU PF list of contestants leaked to ZimEye.com, Modi will face off with Douglas Gangaidzo, Bafana Andy Dube, Sibekithemba Mafengu, Makunga Moyo, Nomalanga Gumede and Jameson Msika.

In the other constituencies in the metropolitan province, about 200 members of the ruling party have made known their intentions to contest the elections set for July this year.

Opposition MDC stronghold Bulawayo East has the biggest number of candidates with 10 applicants.

Those eyeing to contest confirmed MDC Alliance coalition candidate David Coltart are little knowns Emmanuel Kanjoma, Josephine Danda, Kevin Muzvidziwa, Nkosana Mkandla, Sweet Sweet, Manala Moti, Minias Mpofu, Mathew Smith, Shorai Zonde and Enerst M Shora.

Lobengula constituency has seven candidates, Christopher Sibanda, Patisani Dube, Micah Micheal Sikhosana, Aaron Ncube, sitting MP Maideyi Mpala and Golden Ndlovu.

Pelandaba-Mpopoma also has seven candidates where sitting MP Joseph Tshuma will battle it out with Marshall Rusike, Itai Stephen Chitepo, Joshua V Mlambo, Sibangani Joseph Malinga and Alfred Mpofu.

Nketa-Emganwini has five candidates namely Eliphas Mashaba, Honest Moyo, Albert Mavhunga, George Tshabangu and Livingstone Chikuni.

Bulawayo Central also has five aspiring candidates who are Mlungisi Moyo, Russell Thomas Nyatsimbo, Raymond Mutomba, Patrick Zharare and Mark Ncube.

In Luveve four candidates will contest against incumbent MP Ntandoyenkosi Mlilo. They are Garikai PC Zonde, Bornface F Ndebele, Maxwell Chigerwe and Lazarus Runganga.

In Pumula four candidates submitted their CVs including the party’s provincial youth chair Khumbulani Mpofu who will battle with MP Godfrey Malaba and Kalfinos Charumbira and Mazwine Gumbo.

Makokoba MP Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube who will face his former personal assistant Nothiwani Dlodlo and Peter Baka Nyoni, the husband to Cabinet Minister, Sithembiso Nyoni.

Nkulumane MP Killian Sibanda will battle it out with his long term rival, Central Committee member David Ndlovu.

The ZANU PF Bulawayo provincial executive last week refused to disclose the names of people who had submitted their names for the primaries indicating that only the head office in Harare was going to do that.

The party strongly warned against the list being leaked but it has since found its way into the media.

ZANU PF has never won a parliamentary seat in the national elections since the formation of the MDC in 1999. The party only won seats at the recent by elections when the MDCs declined to participate in the primaries.

MDC-T Shake Up As Musekiwa Returns From Exile

Tafadzwa Musekiwa (left) with late MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai and former chairman Isaac Matongo in 2001.

By Paul Nyathi|The opposition MDC-T is set for a major shake up as exiled founding young members begin making the great trek back home to claim their spaces in the party.

One of the MDC-T’s most active founding young members Tafadzwa Musekiwa jetted into the country on Saturday ending a fifteen year self imposed exile in the United Kingdom.

Musekiwa was elected as the youngest MP in Zimbabwe in the year 2000 at only 22.

Due to the heavy political violence in the country at that time, Musekiwa fled Zimbabwe later in 2003 to the United Kingdom fearing for his life after fellow legislator and best friend Job Sikhala and his lawyer was detained and tortured.

Besides numerous efforts by the MDC to have him return home and assume his legislative duties in parliament, Musekiwa resigned from his MP position in 2003. He was later spotted selling sculptures for survival in the UK.

Musekiwa comes back at a time when his best friend, Sikhala, has also bounced back to contest his former constituency Zengeza in the upcoming elections.

ZimEye.com could not immediately establish if Musekiwa had submitted his application to stand for elections as an MDC-T candidate.

Chamisa Secrets: Why I Visited Silveira Hospital

By Own Correspondent|   MDC leader Nelson Chamisa has spoken concerning his visit to Silveira Mission Hospital.

Chamisa was mocked on micro-blogging website, Twitter on why he visited the hospice and in particular why he became emotional to the point of laying hands on a young boy hospitalised there(praying for the lad).

Chamisa praying for the young lad at Silveria Hospital

Unbeknown to many, Chamisa was in fact born at the hospital 40 years ago in 1978.

Chamisa told ZimEye.com, “During my visit and tour to hospitals and clinics in Bikita this weekend I had occasion to pray for this young boy who is anaemic at Silveira hospital I was born at this hospital in 1978 on the 2nd of February.”

PICTURE BLAST: Robert Mugabe Attended Chamisa’s Rally?

Today marks exactly 5 months after Mugabe was removed from power.

By Dorrothy Moyo| The below picture was yesterday circulated around social networks with MDC supporters claiming that it shows former President Robert Mugabe tucked inside the crowd at party leader Nelson Chamisa’s rally. The picture shows the tight lipped Mugabe look alike’s face-circled in red listening attentively to Chamisa. ZimEye can however reveal that the man is just a look alike, although the latest developments do show Mugabe supporting opposition parties.

Today marks exactly 5 months after Mugabe was removed from power by the military in the dark wee hours of the 15th November 2017.

Mangoma Launches His CODE Coalition

By Paul Nyathi| Desperate Renewal Democrats of Zimbabwe leader Elton Mangoma yesterday launched his Coalition of Democrats, CODE.

Mangoma launched his coalition in an event with just about 100 people at the Freedom Square in the capital on Saturday.

The former MDC-T Deputy Treasurer unveiled his coalition which he claimed housed five political parties his RDZ, Dumiso Dabengwa’s ZAPU, Mavambo/Khusile/Dawn led by Simba Makoni, African Democratic Party led by Marcellin Chikasha and a ZimFirst faction led by Derreck Lupemba.

Of the so called principals to the coalition only his self confessed loyal follower Lupemba attended the launch.

Dabengwa and Chikasha announced their pull out from the coalition on the eve of the launch and advised all their members not to attend the launch.

The official ZimFirst led by Dr Maxwell Zeb Shumba pulled out of the coalition at the beginning of March leaving faction leader Lupemba in the coalition.

The party through its lawyers warned Mangoma on Friday to withdraw its name from all CODE activities as it was no longer a part of the coalition.

Dabengwa and Chikasha also advised Mangoma of their withdrawal from the coalition ordering him not to use their party names at the launch of the coalition.

All the parties that pulled out of the coalition accused Mangoma of being a dictator who enjoys centralised power and decision making.

Simba Makoni of MKD was a surprise no show at the launch as he has not made any official withdrawal from the coalition.

Addressing the handful group most of whom were just passers by and family members, Mangoma said that they are willing to join hands with others coalitions including the MDC Alliance provided dictatorship issues and presidential powers are dealt with first.

Mangoma said the party was being accused of being hot-headed by refusing to join with other coalitions when in actual fact they have issues they need to be resolved for an opposition grand to work.

“We currently have three coalitions, CODE, MDC Alliance and the Rainbow Coalition, we want to unite with others but we have three things that we want to be addressed first,” he said.

“We are not hot-headed simply because we want Mangoma to be president. We don’t want any more dictators so if someone doesn’t want the reduction of Presidential powers we cannot support them. We cannot have one centre of power.

“Our political representatives for the five parties under CODE, no one can differentiate which party they are coming from, we select the best based on merit because we want the work to be done, however in other coalitions positions are given by force and principals want their own people in Parliament who follow them such that when they disobey they recall them from their seats.

“Thirdly is the issue of dictatorship and forcing candidates on people, we are democrats and people should choose their leaders by themselves, these are the things hindering unity otherwise we can negotiate with others,” said Mangoma.

Mangoma would not give ZimEye.com a comment on the flopped launch of the coalition.

Mangoma Launches His Cold CODE Coalition

The small crowd at the CODE coalition launch in Harare on Saturday

By Paul Nyathi|Desperate Renewal Democrats of Zimbabwe leader Elton Mangoma has launched his preconceived Coalition of Democrats, CODE.

Mangoma launched his coalition in a very low key event with just about 100 people at the Freedom Square in the capital on Saturday.

Khupe Could Shock The World And Beat Chamisa At Court, Expert Indicates…

Thokozani Khupe

A legal expert writes indicating that the expelled former MDC-T Deputy President Thokozani Khupe still has legal armoury which could easily see her winning against her former boss, Nelson Chamisa.

Khupe was on Thursday kicked out of parliament in running events following her expulsion two weeks ago.

The following day her lawyer failed to turn up at court. That development made it appear as if she is now history

But in the below piece published on his website, Lloyd Msipa says Khupe has full rights to legal recourse:

By Lloyd Msipa|  The MDC-T feud has escalated with the Mr Chamisa led faction asking the speaker to recall Dr Khupe from parliament as she is part of the trio ‘fired’ that include Obert Gutu and Abednico Bhebhe. A few days ago we had the ZEC chairperson writing to the Chamisa faction advising them of the notice put forward by the Khupe faction with the intention to use the MDC-T name in the elections. Khupe has hired constitutional law expert Lovemore Madhuku to defend her. The stage is now set for a brutal legal battle.

The matter of who is the legitimate leader of the MDC-T will soon come under the spotlight. The courts will be asked to interpret the MDC-T constitution and pronounce who the legitimate leader is in terms of the MDC-T constitution following the death of Morgan Tsvangirai. The controversial rise of Mr Nelson Chamisa will soon be interrogated. In the event of the court’s ruling against him, this may mean surrendering everything associated with the MDC-T registered name which may include but not limited to the palm symbol, the colour Red, the vehicles and maybe harvest house. This case will be of public international interest and hence the courts have to demonstrate absolute impartiality. Interesting times ahead.

Mr Chamisa has so far scored some legal victories against Dr Khupe – winning the Bulawayo offices in fact it is an interim relief, and there some unconfirmed reports that his faction has also been given the funds under the Political Finance Act.  It is expected that the Chamisa faction which approached the courts in Bulawayo will also respect Dr Khupe’s right to seek the court’s intervention in the matter of legitimacy. The MDC-T is a legal person that can sue and be sued and it is in their constitution.

By refusing to Congress Mr Chamisa took a very high risk strategy ahead of elections and he was helped to interpret the constitution generously by his supporters who seemed to have vested interests. Democracy is on trial in the MDC-T and the rule of law has been the MDC-T’s mantra so it cannot escape the courts.

There are very interesting scenarios that we must brace as the drama unfolds. Firstly, should the Courts decide as many argued that the congress elected Dr Khupe as the Deputy President while Mr Chamisa was a mere appointee reporting to the now President of the party and decide that in terms of the party constitution Dr Khupe is the acting President then Mr Chamisa has to form another party. The problem becomes complicated when it comes to the current MPs as they would have to either work with Dr Khupe or be recalled at a time the electoral laws are being debated in preparation of the 2018 harmonised elections.

Even more interesting, the decision would have found Mr Chamisa as someone who cannot even uphold his own party constitution and it will cast aspersions on his suitability to be elected as the President of the country because how will he be entrusted to defend the constitution of the republic

The other big challenge for Mr Chamisa should he loose will be the issue of all the bank accounts and the party resources and symbols. This will mean that Mr Chamisa will have to start afresh and the implications will be serious on the MDC Alliance because it means they will be forced to ditch the MDC-T.

The situation will be difficult for the MDC funders as they need to be sure that they are funding a democratic project so against the court case has the potential to chase away funders. The resources that should be used to oil Mr Chamisa’s campaign are now being used to fight a court case, and the money that should have been used to fund the congress are now being used to fund a court case.

Meanwhile Dr Khupe is planning on holding her Congress this weekend which means that if the congress elects her the party president then she will approach court challenging Mr Chamisa as unelected leader. Mr Chamisa made the fatal mistake of being anointed and not being elected.

Dr Khupe can however still loose the case and sink into oblivion, but that is what her fight is about. If at least she cannot win the party presidency she needs to win the argument that Mr Chamisa illegitimate and is the one who should be recalled together with his supporters and facilitators of the illegality.

Douglas Mwonzora and Mr Mudzuri are not happy with the situation and the way Mr Chamisa rose to power, although they quickly adapted to save their political careers but all that can now create a problem as they will be called as witnesses or even defendants. Dr Khupe has nothing to lose after all she has been abused terribly while fellow party members stood aside and looked. Douglas Mwonzora and Mr Mudzuri may soon be compelled to take positions consistent with the impending reality.

Zanu PF Vote Rigging Juggernaut Well-Oiled With $4b to MDC’s $2m – Will Bullet Train Beat This?

By Nomusa Garikai| In 2013 SADC leaders wanted Zimbabwe’s elections to be postponed to allow the implementation of the democratic reforms designed end Zanu PF’s carte blanche powers to rig the elections.

“If you take go into the elections next month you are going to lose; the elections are done,” SADC leaders warned Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends at the Maputo SADC summit in June 2013.

SADC leaders were able to judge the election as “done” months before the first ballot was cast because of Zanu PF’s electoral superiority is also every field of the contest. One of these areas was finance; Zanu PF was awash with cash.

Zanu PF parliamentary candidates were given all the t-shirts and other campaigning materials, $10 000 in cash plus a brand new Ford Ranger‚ Toyota Hilux or Ford Everest. Everyone, including the losing candidates, was allowed to keep the new vehicle.

“Former Zanu-PF member Jonathan Moyo‚ who was part of the party’s 2013 election campaign and is now in political exile‚ took to Twitter to reveal the alleged source of Zanu-PF’s 2013 campaign funds. He claimed that diamond revenue and state funds to the tune of at least US$70m were used,” reported Bulawayo 24.

Professor Moyo is way off the mark! The cash and new vehicles for 200 Zanu PF parliamentary and 89 senatorial candidates alone would cost more than $70 million. Add the $58 million in University fees arrears Mugabe to Presidential Scholarship student; $10 million paid to NIKUV, the vote rigging specialists; millions paid to PR companies in UK, SA and USA; hundreds of millions paid to hired crowds and party youths who were bussed around; etc. Many people believe Zanu PF’s 2013 elections campaign bill must be $4 billion plus!

In contrast, MDC-T parliamentary candidate got $700 and council candidate got $100 each, according former MDC-T cabinet minister Samuel Sipepa Nkomo. MDC-T total budget would be $2 million, maximum.

So Zanu PF out spend MDC-T by a staggering 2 000 to 1 in the 2013 elections!

Zanu PF’s financial situation is even rosier this year. The party has already splashed millions of new twin cab Isuzu trucks for each of the country’s 282 Chiefs, $ 60 million on new vehicles for party leaders.

“Last week Zanu-PF’s national commissar‚ Retired Lt-Gen Engelbert Rugeje‚ told members the party would soon distribute millions of campaign materials to the masses,” reported Bulawayo 24.

“As for regalia‚ we have 15-million T-shirts‚ 15-million caps and some of them have already arrived‚” he said. “We also have 2-million [body] wrappers for women.”

“When the party won‚ we kept the cars‚” said an election candidate from the Midlands‚ who lost. If his candidature is approved‚ he is due for another car.”

All told, Zanu PF will probably spend $6 billion this time round! The party has kicked out most other players in Marange including the party’s “all weather friends” the Chinese. So the consolidated loot from diamonds is considerable!

MDC Alliance’s financial position has not improved. The donors who deserted the party in droves just before the 2013 elections in disgust for the party’s failure to implement even one reforms during the GNU have continued ignore the party.

“We are likely to see Zanu-PF outspending other political parties on regalia‚ campaign vehicles and a sustained media blitz in terms of visibility. I foresee Zanu-PF being miles ahead of the MDC Alliance‚ People’s Rainbow Coalition by end of May. Whether that will translate into votes will be known once election results are announced‚” Political analyst Prof Philani Moyo from Fort Hare University.

It is ironic that MDC Alliance, party with a shoe string budget, should be the one holding rallies up and down the country bussing supporters around at great expense and the race has not even started! Even bullet trains need a source of energy to keep them going. In terms of funding alone, it looks like the Nelson Chamisa bullet has “enough gas to take you to the nearest petrol station,” as car salesman would say. And Chamisa is wasting the gas on warn-ups!

Starbucks Apologizes After Worker Calls Police On Black Men Waiting At Table

Washington, US – Starbucks apologized Saturday to two black men arrested at a Philadelphia store in an incident that has led to accusations of racial profiling by the company and police.

Cellphone videos captured the tense moment Thursday afternoon when at least six Philadelphia Police Department officers stood over two seated black men, asking them to leave. A man named Andrew Yaffe arrives to tell police that the two men were waiting for him. The officer says that they were not complying and were being arrested for trespassing.

“Why would they be asked to leave?” Yaffe says. “Does anybody else think this is ridiculous?” he asks people nearby. “It’s absolute discrimination,” Yaffe adds. The two unidentified men are taken out in handcuffs soon after. They were released early Friday with no charges filed.

One of the videos of the arrest rocketed across social media, with 4.5 million views by Saturday evening.

Lauren Wimmer, the attorney for the two men, told The Washington Post that her clients told a Starbucks employee that they were waiting for Yaffe. Shortly after, a white female employee called the police, Wimmer said.

Wimmer said Yaffe, who runs a real estate development firm, said that he was there to meet the men to discuss business investment opportunities.

The two men, whom she declined to identify, were taken to a police station, fingerprinted and photographed. One officer suggested that they faced charges for “defiant trespassing,” Wimmer said. They were held for nearly nine hours before they were released, she said, after prosecutors said they would not pursue charges.

Benjamin Waxman, a spokesman for Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, said the office decided that there “wasn’t sufficient evidence to charge [the men] with a crime.”

In a statement on Twitter, Starbucks apologized to the two men and said it was “disappointed this led to an arrest.”

An employee called the police for help to get the men out of the store but later regretted that it escalated into an arrest, said a company official familiar with the incident, who declined to give a name to freely describe internal discussions. The employee was doing the right thing according to store policy, the official told The Post, but the company is evaluating its guidance out of concern that the options and decisions may not be clear.

“Did we set her up with the right protocol?” the official asked. – NDTV/Washington Post

Chiwenga In South Africa For Winnie’s Burial

Mama Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was a symbol of the liberation movement and a voice for the oppressed people of the region, Vice-President Dr Constantino Chiwenga has said.

In a telephone interview with The Sunday Mail after a farewell service for Mama Madikizela-Mandela at Orlando Stadium in Soweto, VP Chiwenga said her courage had been an inspiration for many.
The Vice-President was among scores of dignitaries who joined thousands of people to pay their last respects to the ANC Women’s League former leader.

Mama Madikizela-Mandela died aged 81 on April 2 and was buried yesterday at Fourways Memorial Park north of Johannesburg.

Said VP Chiwenga: “She was not just for South Africa; she became a symbol of the revolution for all those who were fighting for their independence in the Southern African region.

“When her husband, Nelson Mandela, was incarcerated at Robben Island, she became the voice of the liberation movement, the voice of the ANC in South Africa and for all liberation movements.
“Her courage encouraged girls, women and men as well to pick up guns and go and fight for their liberation.”

He added: “Mama Winnie’s voice reverberated across the whole world, and that is why we had to come to pay our final respects as the Government of Zimbabwe and representing the people of Zimbabwe.
“If there was any voice that made the world understand what South Africa’s struggle was about and what Africans were fighting for, it was the voice of Mama Winnie.

“That is why she became the Mother of the Nation; and that is also why she was villified and accused of doing all sorts of things that she did not do.”

VP Chiwenga said Zimbabwe was happy that South Africans recognised the role she played and would honour her in a fitting manner.

In his eulogy, South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa said Mama Madikizela-Mandela was a visionary who championed reconciliation.

“We gather here not only to pay our final respects to a great African woman, but to affirm the common humanity that, through her life, she revealed in us,” he said.
‘’She was the Mother of the Nation because she cared for all and hated corruption. The title of Mother of Nation was more befitting and she carried it with respect and honour.’’

President Ramaphosa said Mama Madikizela-Mandela had undergone extreme torture and humiliation but never surrendered.

“In death, she has brought us all together, from near and far, across many nations and continents, to mourn, to pay homage, to remember and to fondly reminisce.

“In death, she has demonstrated that our many differences along political party and racial lines and the numerous disputes we may have are eclipsed by our shared desire to follow her lead in building a just, equitable and caring society,” he said.- state media

Man Who Announced Mugabe’s Removal SB Moyo Flies To UK Commonwealth Summit

NATIONAL NEWS

The man who announced Robert Mugabe’s removal LIVE on television last year, who is now the Foreign Affairs Minister, is flying to the United Kingdom to an event that is set to see the re-admission of Zimbabwe into the Commonwealth. The event will be historic as the former colony begins to be recognised 15 years after it pulled out of the powerful block of countries.

State Media – Zimbabwe has been invited to the Commonwealth Heads of State Summit that begins in Britain tomorrow and ends next Sunday, marking the latest high-level sign of thawing of relations between Harare and London.

Zimbabwe will have observer status, ahead of planned re-admission into the bloc before year-end.

Before the Summit, there will be an official call on the United States, where Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Dr Sibusiso Busi Moyo will meet American government authorities.
Following the mission to the United States, Dr Moyo leads his delegation to Europe, as President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration builds bridges with countries that were hostile to Zimbabwe because of the previous regime’s policies.

In an interview with The Sunday Mail, Secretary for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Joey Bimha said the Commonwealth invitation was an indication of reciprocity to Zimbabwe’s re-engagement efforts.
“The minister has been invited by his British counterpart for a visit. He is going to attend the (Commonwealth) meeting, but he will not participate,” he said.

“We are not privy to the agenda of the Summit since we are not participants . . . But this shows that our re-engagement exercise is working,” he said.

After London, Dr Moyo heads to Brussels where he is scheduled to meet European Union head of Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Ms Federica Mogherini.

Ambassador Bimha said Zimbabwe’s re-engagement missions had been going well.
“The President has been on record as saying we should make overtures to woo the West again following a long period of isolation. I think the exercise is going on well. We have been to Japan, UK Portugal, China and Spain.

“To signal the level of reciprocity Zimbabwe has been enjoying from the West, delegations have visited the country from the European Union, the UK, the US and other countries,” he said.
President Mnangagwa’s first foreign visitor following his inauguration was then British Minister for Africa, Mr Rory Stewart.

UK minister for Africa in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Department for International Development, Mr Harriet Bladwin also visited him in February.
Last month, Finance and Economic Development Minister Patrick Chinamasa was in Britain where he met Foreign Minister Boris Johnson.

A fortnight ago, a five-member delegation of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee visited Zimbabwe and met President Mnangagwa; and last week EU International Development Commissioner Mr Nevin Mimica also paid him a visit.

MDC Alliance Rolls Out Rural Outreach Program

Jacob Ngarivhume

STATEMENT: Yesterday the MDC Alliance held a rally in Magunje as part of the Alliance Rural engagement program. TZ President, Jacob Ngarivhume addressed the rally. Senior Alliance delegates included Morgan Komichi (MDC T), Manyengavana (PDP), Mandivenga Zhou (MCD) plus Ndonga and Zim Pf representatives.

Suspected army personnel took over the Alliance venue where they gathered some youths for a football match, in a glaring move intended to sabotage and frustrate the Alliance rally. An alternative venue was immediately sought and people still attended in droves.

In his address, the TZ president Jacob Ngarivhume rebuked the actions of the army imploring the rank and file of the army to respect and stick to their constitutional apolitical mandate of protecting territorial sovereignty of the nation.

Ngarivhume went on to say, “We are having this meeting a few weeks from our independence day celebrations. As the Alliance and as TZ we respect and value the sacrifices made by the gallant sons and daughters of Zimbabwe who died for this nation. Their bravery, patriotism and resilience is something we admire and greatly respect.” Ngarivhume informed the gathering that Alliance principals had resolved to attend this year’s independence celebrations.

Ngarivhume gave special mention to Dr Tsvangirai, whom he called the father of the Zimbabwean democracy, and led people to observe a minute’s silence in his owner.

In his main message, Ngarivhume highlighted policy positions necessary for Zimbabwe to transform its political and economic fortunes for the better.

1. We are going to promote Industrialisation of our nation so as to create the jobs our people need. We shall do this by availing funds to this cause which we shall get from trading our minerals as well as investments from local busines people and international investors.

2. We are going to make sure that we have good governance in this nation. The three arms of government must be independent, and the chiefs and traditional leaders must be apolitical. The army must be devorced from the political and simply focus on the protection of the nation.

3. We are going to improve the Social Service in each province. With regards to health, we are going to strive that there be a clinic in every ward and hospitals in every district which are fully staffed with a permanent doctor stationed at every center. We are going to increase schools in every province and we are going to make sure our road networks are reconstruction and fully maintained

4. Empowerment of Citizens shall be another key pillar of the Alliance government. Our children must be empowered through education. In that regard, all primary level children in public schools shall have free education. Remarkable students shall be supported even from A level through to university level by the government.

5. In conclusion, Ngarivhume highlighted that Zimbabwe now needs a Transformational Leadership, a leadership which fears God. “The failure of Zimbabwe has been a failure of leadership. Instead of using the nations’ resources to benefit the people, we have had a leadership that has used the resources for self benefit and selfish gains. Zimbabwe now needs a generation which fears God to take this nation forward.

The meeting ended on a high note, with people enlightened of where the Alliance is going and fired up for change, come elections this year.

Khupe Drags Chamisa To Constitutional Court

By Talent Gondo| Embattled former MDC T Vice President, Thokozani Khupe, who is leading a splinter faction of the party has taken MDC T President and Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa to the Constitutional Court challenging recent developments where she was recalled from parliament.

Khupe’ s lawyer, Professor Lovemore Madhuku revealed in an interview with the national broadcaster, ZBC that his client is approaching the Constitutional Court to seek redress over her dismissal from parliament.

“She is in parliament representing the people who elected her into office and it is unconstitutional for the party to recall her from parliament,” said Professor Madhuku.

“It is obvious that the party has split, but parliament must not take sides and it is not a court, ” he said.

Madhuku accused parliament of favouring the other faction of MDC T over his client since it had headed calls to recall her despite Khupe’ s communication to the Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Mudenda that the party was facing leadership challenges which were to be addressed through the party’ s internal process of holding a Congress.

“There is need to look at the Constitution seriously,” said Professor Madhuku, emphasising that political parties had no mandate recalling parliamentarians from parliament since they were elected by voters.

“Political parties must not play with the electorate. We are not even sure who wrote that letter to parliament so for parliament to say Know was recalled is unconstitutional, said Madhuku.

In a related development, Khupe disclosed that she was still the acting President of the party.

“I am the constitutionallv elected acting president and until we go to Congress I am leader of the MDC T,” said Khupe.

Do Not Be Excited About Big Numbers At Rallies, Analyst Warns Chamisa

Terrence Mawawa

Respected political analyst has advised popular MDC leader Nelson Chamisa to encourage his followers to register to vote in numbers ahead of the watershed polls.

“The game is both quantitative and qualitative.

Nelson Chamisa is doing well at the quantitative
game but perhaps the MDC Alliance should look at
the quality of these quantities; make sure these
quantities are registered, have good quantity agents

“Mugabe Backed” G40 Party Overshadows Mnangagwa In South Africa

By Own Correspondent| The so called “Mugabe backed” National Patriotic Front(NPF) party has sideswiped ZANU PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa, becoming the first Zimbabwean party to feature in the South African television media at the late Winnie Mandela’s burial.

The NPF dispatched a three-member delegation to attend the burial of former South African First Lady and anti-apartheid struggle icon, Winnie Madikizela Mandela.

As ZimEye.com reveals, even Mnangagwa’s arch enemy Sarah Mahoka is there. (see picture below)

NPF’s National Chairperson addressing the media at Orlando Stadium at the funeral of Winnie Mandela today

The party reveals that a delegation, comprising the party’s National Chairperson, Hon Eunice Sandi-Moyo, Women’s League Secretary, Hon Sarah Mahoka and the National Spokesperson, Jealousy Mawarire, was welcomed by top ANC Women’s League officials who facilitated the trio’s accreditation to attend the event.

Hon Sandi-Moyo described the passing on of Winnie as a saddening event which, however, reopens discussion on the principles of self-determination, building of a just and equitable society and there turn of natural resources to black indigenous South Africans, and indeed to all Africans whose heritage was looted by colonialists during the colonization of Africa.

“We remember Winnie as a sister in the struggle, and an incorrigible freedom fighter who defied all odds to fight for the end of apartheid while single handedly raising a family, after her husband, Nelson Mandela, was incarcerated.

CHAMISA LATEST: Mnangagwa Duped Us

MDC leader Nelson Chamisa has said that President Emmerson Mnangagwa duped the whole nation.

Speaking at Jerera Growth Point, Chamisa said Mnangagwa played with sweet words when he in November announced that his administration has brought a New Dispensation.

Chamisa’s speech signifies a radical departure from his earlier position. Since the November coup, he had been saying the Mnangagwa regime is better than Robert Mugabe’s.

This time addressing over a crowd of over 6,000 supporters, Chamisa screamed into the microphone pejorative statements against Mnangagwa’s political slogans.

The rally was one of many others being held around the country under the MDC Alliance banner.

He said, “Some are calling this a new dispensation while some are saying we have a new leadership. We cannot have a new dispensation with someone who has been around for 38 years who suddenly returns declaring that they are now new. Who baptised you? Whatever was done by Mugabe you were also approving it. Him being a pastor, you being a deacon. Now you want to criticise and lie to us saying ‘this church was a bad one it had a bad pastor’ but you were the one endorsing him. You are not fools you people of Zimbabwe, you cannot be lied to or deceived,” he said.

He also added saying, “we hear you saying Zimbabwe is open for business. Who had closed it?”

Said Chamisa:

Some are calling it a new dispensation. Some are saying we have a new leadership. We cannot have a new dispensation with someone who has been around for 38 years who comes and declares they are now new. Who baptised you? Whatever was done by Mugabe you were also approving it. Him being a pastor, you being a deacon. Now you want to criticise and lie to us saying ‘this church was a bad one it had a bad pastor’ but you were the one endorsing him. Khupe Found Naked, Just Like She Said

By Redley Mugabe|  Since the day she claimed Morgan Tsvangirai sent thugs to beat her up, today marks exactly 224 days, or just 32 weeks later.

On the 2nd September 2017, Thokozani Khupe began her journey into “Satan’s abyss.” On that day, she made an official report that she was beaten up by a sick man, Morgan Tsvangirai. This was on top of her giving the man a lot of trouble by humiliating him, refusing to participate in the MDC Alliance, all because she did not want to cede parliamentary seats to her old time nemesis Welshman Ncube. 7 months later she would claim that she was never against the MDC Alliance.

Now fast forward to February 2018, Khupe suddenly shifted from her ever boiling, unresolved war against the late Tsvangirai, and launched another battle, this time as she began claiming that she is the legitimate Party Acting President, not Nelson Chamisa. This was against a National Council(the party’s highest decision making body in between congress) resolution that spoke unanimously to appoint Chamisa.

She also opposed her colleague Elias Mudzuri who had his own wrangle that he is the legitimate leader appointed during Tsvangirai’s dying moments.

When the National Council Resolutions were read out, millions of Zimbabweans (party supporters) affirmed that position as legitimate.

Fast forward 2 weeks, pastors, bishops, and leading statesmen flocked to her house in Bulawayo to reason with her particularly at a time when it became clear Chamisa was not out to eliminate any of his opponents. To this day people like for instance Elias Mudzuri continue their works of dissent totally untouched.

Now fast forward to the 13th April 2018, the parliament of Zimbabwe’s Speaker, Jacob Mudenda declared that she was the outcast. She was ordered out of the house and on Friday night her spokesman Witness Dube said she is now suing Chamisa. In the below interview, he said she is only suing ” for posterity’s sake.”

But how much posterity if any does Khupe have? After her team threatened to literally remove their underwear in protest, how many clothes does Khupe still have on her? She does not have community covering as Southern Region leader, Jenni Williams distanced her organisation from her(Khupe). She no longer has party clothes as she has been derived and expelled. At Parliament, she is now jobless. On a more serious note, after declaring to literally and phusically strip down to underwear level, is she still covered?

Mudzuri Finally Says Chamisa Is Boss

PICTURE BLAST: Mutsvangwa’s Wife With Jonso Aside Winnie

...from the past..

Below is a moving picture of prof Jonathan Moyo with Presidential advisor Chris Mutsvangwa’s wife, Monica, as the two met the late Winnie Mandela in South Africa. Back then no one fathomed that Mutsvangwa would years later organise a whole national army to remove the man who is on the left side. So what happened then? The answer is perhaps very simple: “Mugabe happened”. PICTURE –

The two are now arch enemies.

ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE- Nurses Strike Next Week

By A Correspondent| Barely a few weeks  after after hospitals endured one whole month of junior doctors’ protest, Zimbabwe nurses have announced that they are downing their tools next week.

The Zimbabwe Nurses Association (Zina) secretary-general Enock Dongo has reportedly confirmed that they will go on strike next week Monday after thr government failed to address their demands for better pay.

This also comes as their 14-day notice for strike has expired.

Dongo, speaking to the local Daily News, refused to comment any further, only saying, yes we are going on strike on Monday.

Nurses, had earlier on, appeared appeased by a March 30, 2018 collective bargaining agreement negotiated through the Health Service Biparte negotiation panel.

The agreement reached through the Health Service Biparte negotiation panel improved allowances for standby nurses stationed at rural health centres as well as introducing new allowances to nursing staff that acquire approved qualifications. There was also an introduction of an allowance to nurse managers on a non-claimable rate of $350-$450 per month.

Mnangagwa Govt Blames Biti For Economy Disaster, Says He Left $217 In Bank Account

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration has blamed the current economic mess on former Finance Minister Tendai Biti.

They said Biti left only $217 in the bank account.

Deputy Finance minister Terrence Mukupe told the senate Mnangagwa inherited a bankrupt ministry.

He said Tendai Biti who was the finance minister during the Government of National Unity left only $217.

He said, “You still remember when we had the Government of National Unity, there used to be talk of ‘eating what you kill’ under the Biti-Gono (former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor Gideon Gono) era.

“What happened during that era was that there was an expansionary credit programme that was put in place. The nice thing is figures do not lie.

“In January 2013, the former minister of Finance … Biti announced that government had only $217 in its coffers when he left office. He left office with a situation where government had a domestic debt that was running close to $5 billion. What …(Patrick) Chinamasa inherited was basically a bankrupt ministry of Finance where only what was available was debt.” – DailyNews

Edmund Says Chamisa Is “A Strange Animal” | KUGOCHA KUNODA KWA-CHAMISA

By Dorrothy Moyo| The Sunday Mail’s former editor, Edmund Kudzayi has thrown daggers at MDC leader Nelson Chamisa.

Writing on Saturday morning while commenting on Chamisa’s hospital visit to Silveria Mission hospice yesterday, Kudzayi mocked Chamisa’s act of laying hands to pray for a sick child. He referred to Chamisa as “a political animal’ Zimbabwe’s voters are now set to react to.

In the same thread, he also at another point compared Chamisa to Emmerson Mnangagwa’s wife, (Amai)Auxillia who has also been visiting hospitals and has received numerous negative reactions.

Kudzayi appeared to be dancing on the famous Shona proverb- Kugocha Kunoda KwaAmai (Amai is always right), but in this case, the antithesis is Kudzayi’s point which is, “Kugocha kunoda kwaChamisa.”

Kudzayi’s point appeared thus to say when Auxillia does it, it is wrong, but when Chamisa does the same, it is all okay.

Below was his comment…

BREAKING – UK, US and France Launch Attacks On Syrian Chemical Sites

The US, UK and France have bombed multiple government targets in Syria in an early morning operation targeting alleged chemical weapons sites.

The strikes were in response to a suspected chemical attack on the Syrian town of Douma last week.

Explosions hit the capital, Damascus, as well as two locations near the city of Homs, the Pentagon said.

Russia’s ambassador to the US responded by saying the attack on its ally “will not be left without consequences”.

“The nations of Britain, France, and the United States of America have marshalled their righteous power against barbarism and brutality,” President Trump said in an address to the nation from the White House at about 21:00 local time (02:00 BST).

“The purpose of our actions tonight is to establish a strong deterrent against the production, spread, and use of chemical weapons,” he said.

The wave of strikes is the most significant attack against President Bashar al-Assad’s government by Western powers in seven years of Syria’s civil war. – BBC

Khupe Screams: I’ve Been Hit And It’s Unfair

The expelled former MDC-T Deputy President Thokozani Khupe has screamed out saying she has been hit by a deliberate discrimination play-up by the Zim Parliament.

She compared herself with the MDC-T’s former Secretary General Tendai Biti who was expelled in 2014 by the late parry leader, Morgan Tsvangirai.

Khupe said,  “When Biti split the money was shared. Why not this time? Is it because Khupe is a woman or because she comes from a different region? The Biti issue set precedence. I have been treated unfairly and am not getting protection from anyone while Chamisa is being protected by the system. That’s why I am sticking to the constitution. What Parliament did is not acceptable and it’s evident that the system is taking sides because how can Parliament decide on the fate of a political party’s members.” – state media

Khuphe Accuses Mnangagwa Of Backing Chamisa

Thokozani Khuphe

By Paul Nyathi| Defiant, expelled former MDC-T Deputy President Thokozani Khuphe has accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government of backing Nelson Chamisa against her in the ongoing factional fights in the opposition party.

Addressing a sizeable group of about 400 sympathetic MDC-T members in Victoria Falls on Friday, Khuphe blamed what she called the government system for taking sides in the internal affairs of the MDC-T.

Khupe’s outburst comes a day after she was expelled from Parliament after the Nelson Chamisa faction wrote to the Speaker saying she no longer represented the MDC-T interests in the august house.

Khuphe claimed parliament erred by accepting a letter from Chamisa to expel her from parliament ignoring her letter she submitted to parliament before hand.

“I wrote a letter to the Speaker of Parliament telling him we have leadership problems hence the House should not accept any correspondence from any of us without consulting the other.

“I did the same in relation to the Political Finances but to my surprise some money was deposited into the account of the MDC-T run by Chamisa. I phoned the Clerk of Parliament because the Speaker (Adv Jacob Mudenda) was on leave and we have communicated with the Ministry of Justice demanding our share. We had already opened a bank account which we initially didn’t have and our lawyers are already working on an urgent appeal,” said Khupe.

She said precedence was set when Tendai Biti left MDC-T to form the People’s Democratic Party and still received similar funds.

“When Biti split the money was shared. Why not this time? Is it because Khupe is a woman or because she comes from a different region? The Biti issue set precedence.

“I have been treated unfairly and am not getting protection from anyone while Chamisa is being protected by the system. That’s why I am sticking to the constitution. What Parliament did is not acceptable and it’s evident that the system is taking sides because how can Parliament decide on the fate of a political party’s members,” she added.

“I was elected deputy president in 2006, 2011 and 2014 where the congress unanimously endorsed me.

“As such we remain the original MDC and we are going to call for an extraordinary congress on April 21 where a leader will be elected. Right now we are busy going around drumming up support for the congress and as acting president I have declared interest for election. I could hire crowds like them but that is only mobocracy and it doesn’t vote, such people don’t vote,” said Dr Khupe.

“I will remain resolute. They have made me stronger and they can’t break my spirit. I can’t be fired by them, how do you fire somebody who is not with you?

“We stated categorically on March 18 that we dissociate ourselves with the Chamisa group when they deviated from the constitution. It’s possible for me to recall them because I am the leader of the original MDC but we can’t talk about that now since we are waiting for the appeal which I have instructed my lawyers to file today,” she said.

The party expelled Khupe and her allies Abednico Bhebhe and Obert Gutu who were organising secretary and national spokesperson respectively before recalling her.

ZIFA Coup, Chiyangwa Bans Ex Presidents For Life From All Football

By Paul Nyathi| The troubled Zimbabwe Football Association President, Phillip Chiyangwa has banned at least two former ZIFA Presidents from all football activities for life.

In a statement released by the football mother body on Friday afternoon the football body advised that it had banned for life former Presidents Trevor Carelse Juul and Vincent Pamire amongst others after they led football stakeholders to purge the ZIFA President Chiyangwa allegedly for chaotic administration of the country’s number one sport.

“The Zimbabwe Football Association has provisionally expelled Trevor Carelse-Juul, Eusebio Maseko, Rafiq Khan and Vincent Pamire from partaking in any association football-related activities in Zimbabwe for violating the ZIFA constitution,” said the statement signed by Joseph Mamutse the General Secretary of the football body.

Mnangagwa’s Mkwasha Fights For Heath Streak

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son in law has launched a fight for the fired cricket coach, Heath Streak.

Streak is challenging the decision to fire him and yesterday his lawyer wrote to Zimbabwe Cricket compelling them to shelve their plans to hunt for a new technical team.

Streak, the highest paid Zimbabwean coach in the history of the game at $23 000 a month, said his dismissal was unprocedural and unlawful.

The man received a massive round of support on Sunday after being accused of being racist below of which were some of the reactions:

The former coach is also mulling suing for defamation over the alleged racial remarks made by the ZC chairman, Tavengwa Mukuhlani.

Streak refused to accept the initial communication of the termination of his contract on a technicality before the board on Monday made an interesting decision to reinstate him and then hours later sent another letter of dismissal on three months’ notice, according to Zimbabwe’s Labour Law.

His lawyer Gerald Mlotshwa, a senior partner at Titan Law, yesterday replied to ZC managing director, Faisal Hasnain, questioning most of the sections quoted by the association in their final contract termination letter.

“Our clients are in possession of correspondence purporting to terminate their employment contracts on notice. Particular reference is made to correspondence dated 9th April, 2018 addressed to Mr Streak, and purportedly signed on your behalf.

“Our clients note, with bemusement, the consistent bungling, amounting to harassment, associated with the unlawful attempts to terminate their employment contracts with Zimbabwe Cricket. We wish to point out that:

“1. The section 12 (4a) and 12 (4) of the Labour Act 28:01 sought to be relied upon in terminating our client(s) contracts are of no force and effect. They simply do not apply in the present circumstances.

“2. Any attempt to terminate our clients’ employments contracts on notice, is, for the record, also of no force and effect at law.

“3. Any attempt to employ any other person in the positions our clients are presently employed by ZC is, and will be, patently unlawful, and also of no force and effect,” read part of the letter.

ZC have indicated they want to move with speed to appoint the technical team with advertisements for the coaching positions set to be flighted in the media without delay.

The association are looking to have put in place a new technical team by the time Zimbabwe host a triangular series involving giants Pakistan and Australia.

But while some in the technical department have accepted their fate, Streak, batting consultant Lance Klusener and fitness trainer Sean Bell have refused to go down without a fight.

The coaches’ lawyers also alleged that the letters were signed by an unauthorised personnel, therefore were null and void.

“Our clients note not with concern that all correspondence directed at them from Zimbabwe Cricket is presently signed by unknown persons, purportedly on behalf of the managing director of Zimbabwe Cricket.

“Our clients, on the basis of advice, do not, in addition to the grounds set forth above, accept that this faceless and nameless character, signing the said correspondence, has any lawful authority to do so from Zimbabwe Cricket Board.

“Indeed, we hereby demand, forthwith, a copy of a resolution signed by ALL board members, lawfully authorising an identified human being to sign all such correspondence on behalf of the managing director.”

And amid the sledging that has almost turned personal, Streak also threatened to sue for defamation for the “racial insinuations” allegedly made by Mukuhlani.

“Our clients, in particular, Mr Streak, note with concern the continued defamatory statements long churned out by Zimbabwe Cricket, in particular the union’s chairman, the latest being insinuations of racism on the part of Mr Streak.

“You will agree that this is absolute and unmitigated nonsense on the part of the chairman of Zimbabwe Cricket.

“We advised our client of the legal consequences of these careless and mischievous utterances. He will in fact hear from ourselves shortly in respect of his statements. Please be guided accordingly,” wrote Mlotshwa. – state media

CIO And ZRP Looted Diamonds As Govt Minister Watched

The Central Intelligence Organisation( CIO) and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), were assisted by the former mines minister Obert Mpofu to loot diamonds an masse, parliament was told.

In long parliamentary grillings covered by ZimEye.com, former CIO boss Happyton Bonyongwe and the current ZRP bosses, spoke on disturbing alleged activities the security bodies were engaged in in Mutare.

In the LIVE first video coverage below, CIO operative Bonyongwe explains what happened.

refresh this page to watch LIVE

Meanwhile, it was told how the two bodies reportedly muscled their way into the Gye Nyame Resources (Pvt) Ltd diamond project in Marange diamond fields in order to finance their operations and for the personal benefit of top officers, documents show.

Documents in the Zimbabwe Independent possession submitted to parliament, show that Mpofu, currently serving as Home Affairs minister, instructed Gye Nyame to work with the ZRP in the diamond project, although the police did not contribute any capital.

The police later took a valuable diamond box containing gems worth millions of dollars.

Sources told the Zimbabwe Independent that ZRP’s involvement was necessitated by the need to grab the company for personal benefit and fund ZRP during former Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri’s reign.

Gye Nyame was originally a joint venture company between the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation (ZMDC) and Bill Minerals (Pvt) Ltd. The company was given diamond mining rights over Block G of Marange Diamond fields.

The document reveals that upon signing the joint venture, the parties involved were then instructed by Mpofu to work with ZRP even though this was not part of the JV.

“In November 2011 upon signing of the JV, we were instructed by the then minister of mines that ZRP through some investments vehicles will be part of the joint venture and Commisioner (Grace) Ndebele, Commisioner (Mekia) Tanyanyiwa and Assistant Commissioner (Naison) Chivayo would be part of the management team,” reads the documents.

“We (were) instructed to give them a 5% shareholding initially, but then further instructions increased the shareholding to 20% without capital contribution. There was no official written instruction to that effect from either the Ministry of Mines or ZMDC.”

Sources say after grabbing the company the ZRP went to the Companies Registry and amended the CR14 document to add its own directors.

“The CR14 is the only document linking the ZRP to the Gye Nyame diamond project. The minister’s instruction for the ZRP to be part of the deal was verbal,” the source said.

A copy of the CR14 shows ZRP put representatives as the first directors and pushed down the directors of Bill Minerals and ZMDC. The police bosses imposed as directors were Charles Mfandaidza, Justice Chengeta, Tanyanyiwa, Grace Ndebele and Samson Siziba.

Chengeta, Tanyanyiwa and Ndebele were retired in January.

Government has constantly argued that the seizure of the diamond mine was necessitated by the fact that it failed to renew its mining licence, that it did not have an exploration report and that Bill Minerals and Gye Nyame did not have a bank account.

However, information at hand proves otherwise. It turns out that it was not Bill Minerals’ obligation to renew its licence as the mandate was given to ZMDC. The company also had an exploration report which was signed in Parliament.

The agreement between ZMDC and Bill Minerals states that by virtue of being a holder of special grants, ZMDC or its nominee had the right to, inter alia, prospect and mine diamonds at the concession areas.

Furthermore, government’s claim that the companies involved did not have bank accounts also turns out to be untrue as evidence show that Gye Nyami held a bank account with MetBank and Bill Minerals had an account at Ecobank.

Ecobank financed operations of Gye Nyame to the tune of US$3,7 million. MetBank provided US$4,5 million capital expenditure and US$1,5 million working capital.

The government also seized the company claiming there was no production. However, officials say the productivity of the mine was proved beyond doubt by the diamond box which was grabbed by police.

“It was said that the mine was not productive, however there was a diamond box which contained 1 000 diamond stones which was stolen. The gems are called the octahedral gems and are worth millions of dollars, proving that the mine was productive,” a source said.

Although government also claimed that the company did not have working capital, documents show that Gye Nyame managed to secure funds from Eco bank and MetBank for their operations.

“When local component of the investors comprising of Itayi Munyeza and Blessmore Chanakira invited the Ghanaians to form Bill Minerals it was with the understanding that they would secure funding externally. However, this did not go according to plan resulting in the local shareholders securing funds in Zimbabwe so that the operations would not be hindered.

“The decision to raise money locally was done mutual with the Ghanaian. The funds secured locally were used in the development stage of the mine,” reads a report submitted to parliament.

The report states that some of the Ghanaian investors allegedly engaged in illegal gold activities and eventually left the country, although one of them was convicted of the crime.

“ZRP attempted to impose a new investor, Soleil Investments, a suspected investor from South Korea, represented by one William Muza into the project. The ZRP went to South Korea to undertake a due diligence on Soleil Investments without any mandate,” the report reads.

ZRP, documents say, had created parallel structures at the mine which report to them, making the management of the company difficult.

The police also attempted to remove the company’s chief executive, Munyeza, but did not manage to and ended up removing the Ghanaians from the site using the illegal gold dealing case.

“ZRP abducted and obtained dot box keys by force from Munyeza. This resulted in removal of all diamonds from the dot box and to date no one really knows what happened to the diamonds except a few stones handed over to ZMDC,” reads the report.

According to a letter written by Gye Nyame’s lawyers Musunga and Associates to Mpofu, Chihuri, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Misheck Sibanda and former director general Central Intelligence Organisation Happyton Bonyongwe, the grabbing of the dot box was done on the evening of July 11 2013.

“The heavy-handed approach of the police and the manner in which the dot box keys were taken has exposed bad faith in this arbitration process. Additional reporting – Zimbabwe Independent

Mangoma’s “Most Stable Coalition” Collapses Ahead Of Launch

No nonsense taker, ZAPU leader Dumiso Dabengwa dumped Mangoma

By Paul Nyathi|Hardly two days after Elton Mangoma declared that his Coalition Of Democrats, CODE coalition, was the most stable, it has lost probably its most important alliance partner ZAPU.

The ZAPU leader Dumiso Dabengwa announced in a statement on Friday that his party was inevitably pulling out of the coalition.

ZAPU pulled out of the coalition just twenty four hours ahead of the much talked about launch of the coalition set for Africa Unity Square in Harare on Saturday.

Mangoma’s Friday the 13th could be the most horrific as he also received at the same time a letter from the official Zimbabwe First Party lawyers ordering him and his coalition principal partner Derreck Lupemba to immediately withdraw using the ZimFirst name as one of the coalition partners.

Dabengwa said that the party will be issuing a full statement over the weekend on why they opted out of the coalition.

ZAPU incorporated former CODE principal Barbara Nyagomo’s Progressive Democrats of Zimbabwe into its structures to establish a united party in the name of ZAPU.

Nyagomo and ZimFirst leader Dr Maxwell Zeb Shumba both accused Mangoma of being a dictator and failed political leader when they quit CODE.

Comment could not immediately be obtained from Mangoma on the issue and plans for Saturday launch in the wake of the new developments.

PICTURE: Zambia Adopts “Chamisa’s Spaghetti Idea”, Spaghetti Road to Cover 120 kilometres

By Farai D Hove| Four (4) weeks after MDC leader Nelson Chamisa was mocked by Zimbabweans for his spaghetti road idea, Zambia has adopted the ambitious concept. The neighbouring country’s Daily Mail paper reports on the development in a screaming headline titled, “Lusaka born again”.

The paper’s Steven Mvula reports saying Lusaka is poised for a milestone transformation into a city of international standards following the launch of a US$289 million roads construction project.

The project, which was launched by President Edgar Lungu and his Indian counterpart Ram Kovind yesterday, is aimed at decongesting Lusaka by building roads and fly-over bridges by Afcons International, an Indian construction company.

President Lungu said the project, which will cover 120 kilometres of major roads, is timely because traffic congestion in Lusaka is now negatively affecting the country’s economic development. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE – http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/

Chiwenga’s Wife Seizes Govt Farm

Mary Chiwenga, Vice President Gen Constantino Chiwenga’s wife, has grabbed the farm belonging to the Agriculture Rural Development Authority (Arda).

In an investigation which also quotes her directly, she is said to have even taken over the seeds at the 300-hectare property and armed men who are protecting the property said,

“Arda Seeds is(sic-are) no longer here; this is now the vice-president’s property”

The farm is located just outside Harare along Domboshawa Road and has for years been used to produce crop seed for farmers.

Another property near the place is used by the Ministry of Agriculture to develop the Zero Tillage technology.

A report in the weekly independent says Mary reportedly claimed that she wanted to build a school at the location after failing to get the property in 2013.

The report quotes a former worker who said,

“On 15 February, they took over Arda Seeds. Mary said to workers ‘this is our farm.’ It was not the first time that Chiwengas came to the farm. In 2013, they came and said they wanted to build a school.”

Mary Chiwenga hails herself as the Second Lady of Zimbabwe.

When she was contacted, she said the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture and Resettlement was fully aware of the matter. She said, “the best I can do is to direct you to the ministry. They know everything about this matter. You can speak to the director of lands.”

Khupe Slaps Chamisa With Lawsuit On Friday the 13th | WHAT WILL HAPPEN NOW?

“Friday the 13th. That day again!,” wrote Nelson Chamisa’s spokesman, Luke Tamborinyoka.

By Farai D Hove| As she received backing from Harare based activist Linda Masarira, the expelled MDC Deputy President Thokozani Khupe today slapped her former boss, Nelson Chamisa with a lawsuit over use of the party name.

Khupe was de-robed and simultaneously expelled from the MDC-T party after nearly 8  months or bitter fights with the late Morgan Tsvangirai and later Chamisa who is now Tsvangirai’s successor.

Masarira last night criticised Chamisa saying, “this was the worst decision made by the Chamisa faction. At this juncture I am forced to follow the voice of reason to support constitutionalism and to protect the interests of a woman politician. Zimbabwe Women In Politics condemns this move and will stand in solidarity with Dr Thokozani Khupe.”

Following that outrage, Khupe has today, Friday the 13th, sued Chamisa. Khupe’s spokesman, Witness Dube last night told ZimEye.com Dr. Khupe is erecting her barbs against Chamisa.

The expelled former Deputy President of the MDC party, Thokozani Khupe’s spokesman spoke to ZimEye.com just after her removal from parliament. – CLICK BELOW TO LISTEN-

Earlier on Dube said in writing,

“MDC-T Acting President, Hon Dr Thokozani Khupe, finds her recall from parliament as a malicious act of interfering into the internal matters of a political party, considering that she had long written to parliament notifying them of a leadership crisis in the party. This leadership crisis is currently awaiting settlement before the High Court of Zimbabwe, and it is therefore difficult to understand what legal criteria the Parliament of Zimbabwe used in taking sides with the other faction of the party. The Acting President has instructed her legal counsel to seek legal relief on this matter.”

S.A Murambatsvina, Man Throws Baby From Rooftop In Protest

By Paul Nyathi| A South African man has been arrested for attempted murder after he threw his two year old baby from a four metre high rooftop.

South Africa media, HeraldLive captured jaw breaking images of the man throwing the baby from the rooftop after negotiations between him and the police to spare the child failed.

The media house reports that, the man went on top of his illegally constructed house at Joe Slovo Informal Settlement in Richards Bay which was due for demolition by government.

When authorities started executing the demolishing order, the man took his baby up the house and threatened to kill the baby if his house was not spared.

Police engaged with him in a half an hour long negotiation to let go the baby but failed to guarantee him that his house would be spared demolition resulting in him throwing the baby.

Alert members of the public and police officers safely caught the baby before hitting the ground.

HeraldLIVE photographer Werner Hills captured the moments of the whole ordeal.

The man was arrested, and social services were contacted.
