Police Dodge Court for Newsday Journalists

The police have charged the two Newsday journalists arrested this week, with publishing falsehoods and denied them access to justice by diverting them from going to the courts before detaining them up to Friday when they will appear in court.
The two journalists, Nqaba Matshazi (Deputy Editor) and Xolisani Ncube (reporter) who were arrested Thursday morning after shaming the state that in December when it failed to pay civil servants, it secretly dished out salaries and bonuses to members of the Central Intelligence Organisation.
The journalists’ attorneys told ZimEye.com that the police diverted them when they were heading for the Harare Magistrate’s court for the hearing of their clients’ case.
“We were on way to the courts and from nowhere we were made to return to the Harare Central Police station upon which we were told that our clients will go to court Friday morning”, said  lawyers Taona Nyamakura and Mzokhuthula Mbuyiso of Mtetwa & Nyambirai Legal Practitioners.
They said their clients will appear in court on Friday for initial remand.

Donkey Rapist(suspect) Denied Bail

A Zimbabwean man who was thrown in jail in September last year for allegedly having sex with a donkey had his prison remand extended by a Palapye magistrates court this week.
23-year old Decent Vee Mulilo was allegedly caught having sex with the donkey at Phuduhudu lands, and while the state believes that forensic evidence will prove that he was more than taking the animal for a ride, the man has maintained his innocence.
This week a Palapye Magistrates court denied him bail as prosecutors pleaded for more time to secure forensic evidence.
He complained to Magistrate Thapelo Buang that his case was being delayed and that other suspects whose cases are also awaiting forensic results have come after him and left prison while he rots in jail. “The prosecutor brings me here and presents the same story all the time regarding my remand. The case should be withdrawn because I do not have a case to answer,” he said.
The prosecution however opposed his bail application as they said as a foreigner he was a flight risk and might skip back to his country.
State Prosecutor, Ditsapelo Emmanuel, told the court that he did not know why the forensic laboratory was delaying with the results and asked the court to have forensic experts summoned to explain the delay.
The case continues on January 20th.-The Voice

BREAKING NEWS- Police Arrest Journalists Over CIO Bonus Story

Police in Harare on Thursday arrested two News Day journalists for publishing a story in their Wednesday  publication revealing that government in December “secretly” gave members of the Central Intelligence Organisation CIO their bonuses.
The two journalists Nqaba Matshazi (Deputy Editor) and Xolisani Ncube (reporter) were picked up from their Granite-side offices and taken to Harare Central Police Station where they are being detained.
Last year the minister of Media Information and Broadcasting Services Christopher Mushowe gagged the media from reporting  on issues involving state security saying that anyone who chooses to do so should be prepared to finish “what you would have started”.

Sable Chemicals Retrenches 130 Workers

sable chemicals
Sole ammonium nitrate fertiliser producer, Sable Chemicals has laid off 130 workers, an official said yesterday.
Sable Chemicals chief executive Jack Murehwa said that the dismissed workers were working in ammonia manufacturing plants, which the firm recently decommissioned.
“In short, we used to make our own ammonia in the country using electrolysis which requires a lot of power. We do have a power deficit, so we could not continue using that much power to make the ammonia so we had to phase the ammonium manufacturing facilities offline.
“Having done that, it then meant that plants that were used to make ammonia had to be switched off and therefore all the people who were working in those areas; we had to part with them,’ he said.
Murehwa added: “We are operating on reduced power, so we had to reduce our operations. We parted with about 130 people.”
He said Sable Chemicals is now importing ammonia.
“But we still have the plants that convert ammonia to fertiliser so we import the ammonia and convert it to fertiliser. Those plants are the ones that are still running and that is the way we are now operating,” he said.
Last October, Government directed that 40 megawatts (MW) of electricity that had been dedicated to Sable Chemicals be diverted to residential areas as a result of power shortages.
At that time, the country was generating around 1 000MW a day, 400MW less than it produced before a drop in water levels at its Kariba hydropower station forced the introduction of water rationing.
Sable then responded by adopting a different production model that saw it decommissioning its high power consuming electrolysis plant which was commissioned in 1972. At full capacity, Sable Chemicals required 115MW to produce 240 000 tonnes of ammonium nitrate fertiliser per year. — New Ziana.

School girls Beat Up Teacher

Teacher beaten up by 7 pupils because she is “useless”
By Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo|In a dramatic story that sounds like a movie script, seven pupils at Earnest Kadungure Secondary School in Chivhu teamed up and charged to beat up their science teacher Stella Ndachenedzwa, accusing her of being what they termed “useless”.
Facts of the state’s case perused by ZimEye.com are that the seven form 3 girls, all aged 15, assaulted Mrs. Ndachenedzwa(48) just before their Science lesson in December, damaging her spectacles in the process. The case was heard before Magistrate Mangosi last week .
When Ndachenedzwa went to the form 3 class for the lesson she found the seven girls armed with sticks and they all stormed out of the classroom accusing the teacher of being incompetent.
The teacher left the classroom to go to her office but the girls blocked her and began to assault her with the sticks all over her body. After brutalising the teacher, the girls returned to the classroom where they were later confronted by senior staff members.
Meanwhile a senior staff member at the school put blame of the incident on peer influence and the misconceptions on television culture.
“The incident happened as a result of mob influence and group think tendency. Above all this event reflects uncouth behaviour and it is ideal for parents to control the type of television content their children view,” once staffer told ZimEye.com.

Makandiwa “An Evil Satanist,” Newsreaders Claim

attacked...Emmanuel Makandiwa
attacked…Emmanuel Makandiwa

Harare churchman Emmanuel Makandiwa is “an evil Satanist”, Newsreaders have charged claiming.
Speaking on the sidelines of the preacher’s “prophecy” that Zimbabwe is in 2016 going to have a booming economy, commentators reacted angrily to his utterances which are similar to colleague Walter Magaya’s new year proclamations.
Makandiwa said in part:

” 2016 is a year of great harvest as there will be no depression and sorrows,”
“God said to me, 2016 is the year of overflow and abundance,”

Local economist Michael Mudawa wrote charging at the preacher saying “this evil Satanist is lying through his teeth. He has said similar things in years and common sense will show that Zimbabwe is not going to have a smooth economy this year,” he said.
Another commentator wrote saying “Kuda kutidherera manje. Why do these people feel like they can just show up and suddenly start offering prophecies? Technology will be key?! Boy! Technology has been key since Zinjanthropithicus or whatever his name was thought of using a rock to crush his pistachios or whatever. And if they must prophesy, why not use it for useful stuff? Like kuti when are the rains coming, so that people do not waste mbeu like they did this year. Or when will electricity be on tomorrow, useful things that I can use. Not this rubbish about bumper harvest.”

Prophetic Healing and Deliverance ministries leader, Walter Magaya joining Makandiwa say 2016 will bring better economic fortunes despite indications of a tough year ahead.
Magaya and Makandiwa made the predictions in their New Year crossover events, saying the change in Zimbabwe’s fortune could see an “overflow and abundance” and “a great harvest”.
The two preachers, who command large followings at their separate church gatherings, told their followers that although 2015 was a challenging year, “God has something special for his people in 2016.”
“God said to me, 2016 is the year of overflow and abundance,” Magaya told multitudes of his followers gathered at his Waterfalls Church in Harare, prompting them to break into song and dance.
In Chitungwiza, it was almost a similar message from Makandiwa as he declared 2016 a year of “great harvest.”
“This is a year of great harvest as there will be no depression and sorrows,” Makandiwa said.
“I know you have suffered enough individually and as a country.
“You have sacrificed a lot and the Lord has told me that 2016 is a year of great harvest.
“Whatever you do, great harvest, in your marriages, great harvest in your finances, great harvest and all you wish for it shall come your way.
“The devil has no chance this year in your life. You shall reap in multitudes. Those who don’t know shall ask why; tell them it is a year of great harvest.”
Magaya said before he made the declaration about 2016, he had spent the greater part of December interceding and seeking God’s plans. He travelled to Nigeria for confirmation of his prophecy from his spiritual father, TB Joshua.
“I am not looking at your situation, you are listening to the declaration, God said to me, overflow into your country, overflow in your life, overflow in your marriage, overflow in your finances,” he said as the church burst into song and dance.
“This year, ask your neighbour; how big is your garage? How big is your house? How big is your wardrobe? Because it is a year of overflow,” he shouted.
“I went to ask my spiritual father and he confirmed this. Yes, I know we are going through tough times as a country, but this year, it is a year of overflow.
“I asked him [TB Joshua], my father, this is what the Lord is telling me, but look at our situation as a country, as Africa, is this true? He said it is true.”
The crossover services at both churches were attended by thousands of people drawn from across the country and beyond, including government ministers, legislators and diplomats accredited to Zimbabwe, among others.
At PHD ministries, congregates were treated to song and dance by Matthias Mhere, Blessing Shumba and others.
As the new year approached, Magaya took to the stage, ordering that all lights be switched off and everyone use an “anointed” candle to “light their lives into 2016”.
The candle light ceremony saw the entire arena being covered with little lights from thousands of candles as the electricity-powered lights were switched off for 15 minutes.

CIOs Threaten to Kill Nurses

Death Threats For Gutu Hospital Nurses| By Terrence Mawawa, Gutu|State security agents on Monday visited Gutu Mission Hospital and threatened to abduct and assault nurses if they embark on a strike against poor working conditions.
Panic stricken nurses at the Reformed Church in Zimbabwe(RCZ) run district hospital yesterday told ZimEye.com three men and “a lady” visited the health centre, moved around the premises and ordered nurses and hospital staff to continue with their duties or risk being abducted.
Morale is generally low at most hospitals since medical personnel are unhappy with the paltry salaries they are getting.
“Three big men and a lady in a short skirt came here and identified themselves as officers from the office of the president.
“They said they had a task to monitor activities in the hospitals and they moved around the nurses’ home and the school of nursing where they said everyone must report for duty. They further threatened to abduct those who dare to participate in the strike.
“They also said nurses who participate in the strike would be ruthlessly dealt with and we are in a state of panic. They said everyone is under surveillance so it is really frightening because they also warned us not to blame anyone if dire consequences befall us ,” said a nurse based at the giant mission hospital.
Medical personnel are pressing for better working conditions and a female nurse working at the Children’s ward said: “everyone is disgruntled and this is the reason why health standards have been compromised. This government must immediately resolve the matter because morale is low here.”

Civil Servants Threaten to Strike As Salary Talks Hit Deadlock

Zimbabwe’s government and its workers left a meeting deadlocked, Wednesday, over the issue of salaries and bonuses, which over the year have been delayed, staggered, and in the case of bonuses, yet to be paid.
The government had called the meeting under the guise of the National Joint Negotiating Council, hoping to de-escalate the rising tensions in the country over labor and pay related issues, but reportedly failed to address the issues to the satisfaction of the worker groups.
The chairman of the Apex Council which represents government workers, Richard Gundani, said workers were disappointed at the lack of resolve.
“There was no agreement at all on today’s meeting. The worker’s demand on the day that the bonuses are going to be paid was not answered,” said Gundani. “The dates are not available from that side.
They continue to express a commitment which is verbal. But from the workers side, from the worker’s point of view, any commitment made right now, has to be made with clear dates and implementation on where we start the process of paying.”
The cash-strapped government has been struggling to meet the wage bill for its 550-thousands workers as its coffers are empty owing to the country’s worsening economic crisis.
Economic hemorrhage

Economist John Robertson said the government is unlikely to meet its obligation to workers, who make up the bulk of the workforce, because of the under-performing economy which has resulted in company shutdowns which have reduced tax revenues. Robertson says all these are a result of government’s failed policies.
“The failure comes directly from their shrinking tax collection, which is a direct consequence of the shrinking economy, and that of course is a direct consequence of the policies that have done such damage to productive capacity,” said Robertson.
Robertson said gone are the days when Zimbabwe could generate the much needed revenue.
“We used to have considerably more production from the manufacturing sector, the farming industry and even the mining sector. Mining has survived better than the others but it too is struggling, because the prices are down and we are now producing a shorter list of minerals than we used to produce.”
Government’s failure to generate revenue to pay its workers, resulting in the delays and back-tracking on bonuses, has angered many government workers, including junior and mid-level doctors as well as nurses, many of who did not report to work for several days claiming they had no money for transport and other necessities.
The health workers had rejected the government’s offer of $1 a day for transport till their January 5th payment day, saying it was not only an insult but not enough. The doctors and nurses have since been paid, confirmed Dr. Fortune Nyamande, president of the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association, but he warned they would embark on another industrial action on January 31st if they do not received their bonuses.
Gundani said more industrial actions would follow if the government does not find a way to pay workers. He said the government must prioritize better.
“Even given that situation, they can afford to pay a bonus and they can afford to pay our salaries, for us it is a matter of priority,” said Gundani. Adding that, “And even government itself has conceded that they can afford to pay the bonuses, that is only a matter of time.”
Robertson agrees that lack of priorities has strayed the government’s focus from paying its workers.
Lack of priority and many other government workers says the government has an obligation to pay its workers, and it should find the means to
“The government does not overcome its extravagance because it is still buying new motor cars, for ministers and deputy ministers, and reserve bank governors and military generals all these people still get privileges and the government inclinations don’t change,” Robertson said.
Other civil servants angered by delayed pay, include teachers who’s salary was not only delayed until just before the New Year, but also deducted by amounts of up to $45 from their salaries for pensions.
The teachers and other public workers argue that deducting any money from their salaries is unsustainable as they are not earning much. Government is also trying to reduce its monthly wage bill estimated at $150 million and trainee teachers are the hardest hit after the government reduced their allowances from $329 to $157 monthly.
But government contends it cannot sustain pensioners as it has not been deducting money since 2009.
The president of the Progressive Teachers Union, Takavafira Zhou, said the government was negotiating in bad faith and therefore, ““sitting on a potential powder-keg that can explode any time.”
In a statement released it released Wednesday, following the meeting, the group said the government showed no commitment to paying them long standing bonuses. The statement also said government refused to commit to reducing the deductions to at most $10, as unanimously advanced by workers’ representatives. The government was also in the process of introducing new deductions of $27 Health Care Insurance and $11 to the National Social Security Authority ( NSSA) Bank with effect from January without consulting civil servants.
The group threatened further industrial action saying that’s the only language the government understands.
“The only language which the rogue elements in government may understand very well is the language of industrial action and teachers must decide to walk that road as a matter of urgency.”
Asked what options the government has at this point to appease its workers, Robertson said there’s only one unlike option.
“Part of the answer is to borrow, if you can’t get the money from taxes. But we have such a poor record of repaying debt that no-body wants to lend us anything.
Local government minister Savior Kasukuwere said he was not available to comment on the situation, when contacted by VOA’s Studio 7. – VOA

TV License Fees to be Scrapped:Govt

Charamba-George
Television viewers will pay between $3 and $5 access fee per month to watch programmes broadcast on channels that will be on the digital platform once digital migration is completed.
This subscription will only enable them to watch programmes on one full spectrum programme channel.
However, subscription fees for specific bouquets are yet to be set.
If implemented, this will end Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation’s right to licence fees since all the access fees would be paid through Transmedia.
This came up during the launch of the content production phase of the Zimbabwe digitisation programme in Harare on Tuesday.
Information, Media and Broadcasting Services permanent secretary Mr George Charamba said this was expected to build the broadcasting industry as television channels would access money from subscriptions from the Transmedia.
“Technically, it will no longer be possible for any broadcaster to pay as and when they want,” said Mr Charamba.
“How is that possible? The system we are introducing in this country is called Conditional Access System. Think of your DStv, your MultiChoice. If you don’t pay, you don’t view.
“But it also means all the broadcasters are being channelled through what is called the head-end to get all the money that is coming from subscribers.”
Mr Charamba said in the event that there was a deadlock on payments between a broadcaster and content producers, the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe was expected to immediately deliberate on the matter and come up with a resolution within three days.
He said BAZ would be entitled to instruct Transmedia to pay the content producer from the broadcaster’s dues.
Government, he said, would not allow broadcasters to delay paying content producers as that posed a threat to the industry.
In an interview with The Herald after the meeting, BAZ chief executive Mr Obert Muganyura said the access fees would be applicable to all viewers on the digital terrestrial platform.
“What it means is that if you have not paid that access fee, you will not be able to watch anything,” said Mr Muganyura.
“The money will be paid at Transmedia who will then do the remittances to the channels, to the broadcasting fund for content development and to the public broadcaster for their public service obligations.”
Mr Muganyura said access fees will only open access to one full spectrum channel while viewers will have to pay more for other bouquets.
He said while Zimbabwe had a total capacity of 24 channels, the country currently focused on 12 channels which were at an advanced stage of implementation.
Of the 12 channels that are available, the public broadcaster ZBC, will get six channels with other broadcasters getting the remainder.
It is expected that once digital broadcasting is up, ZTV will be withdrawn from DStv so that it can be accessible on digital terrestrial.
The requirement for ZBC to collect licence fees is also expected to be scrapped.

Sex with A Donkey: Man Caught, Jailed

donkeyyyyyy
An Inyathi man who was caught having sex with a donkey and justfied his action by saying he did not have a girlfriend to bed has been sentenced to 12 months in prison.
Bhekimpilo Ngwenya, 20, of Sikhuni Village was convicted on his own plea of guilty to bestiality. Bulawayo magistrate Stephen Ndlovu on circuit at Inyathi court sentenced Ngwenya to 12 months in prison.
Four months of the sentence were suspended for five years on condition he does not commit a similar offence within that period. The magistrate said Ngwenya degraded himself and his family by having sex with a donkey.
“What you did is unimaginable. You’re a disgrace to your family and the whole community and such behaviour makes you deserve to be in solitary confinement,” said Ndlovu. When asked why he committed the offence, Ngwenya told the court that he had no girlfriend and that pushed him to have sex with the animal.
“I resorted to having sexual intercourse with the donkey to quench my sexual appetite because I don’t have a girlfriend. I’ve proposed love to several women but I always get rejected,” said Ngwenya.
Prosecuting, Lungisani Dube, told the court that on September 26, Ngwenya found a female donkey grazing in a field.
“The accused who was alone found a female donkey in the fields. He tied a rope around its neck before tying it to a nearby Mopani tree and mounted it,” the prosecutor said.
“A 14-year-old boy who was passing-by noticed that somebody was making some movements on a stationary donkey and went closer to investigate only to discover it was Ngwenya having sex with the animal.
“The accused ran away after realising that the boy had seen him. He went into hiding and villagers reported the case at Inyathi Police Station leading to his arrest,” Dube said. State Media

New Pay Dates for Civil Servants: Kasukuwere

new pay dates...Saviour Kasukuwere
new pay dates…Saviour Kasukuwere

The government’s negotiators yesterday met civil servants’ representatives and gave them specific January pay dates, with everyone being paid by the end of the month, and promised to soon give them firm dates when their 2015 bonuses will be paid.
Members of the Zimbabwe National Army will get their salaries on January 16, followed by those from the Zimbabwe Republic Police on January 20. Those in education will be paid on January 27, while the rest of the civil service will be paid on January 30 and pensioners will be paid on February 5.
Civil servants were doubtful if the government would pay them their salaries within the month after shifting the pay dates last month, a move that saw some getting their salaries on Tuesday, five days after the end of the month.
In yesterday’s meeting, the workers insisted they wanted actual dates when bonuses would be paid and a reversal of the 7,5 percent pension contribution being deducted from each worker’s salary every month.
The government negotiators lined up a number of meetings with the workers this month and said bonuses would be paid at dates to be announced soon after further consultations with the Ministry of Finance and the Civil Service Commission.
Acting Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Saviour Kasukuwere yesterday said the government would take the issues raised by the workers seriously.
“I can confirm the National Joint Negotiating Council, which brings together government and civil servants representatives met today and the report of the meeting will be relayed to the relevant government arms,” he said.
“Government assures the workers that whatever concern they raised will be addressed or explained to them and we hope there will be continuous engagement between both parties such that the workers will be clear on where we’re coming from, where we are and where we’re going.”
Apex Council president Richard Gundane said while the government had, for the umpteenth time, assured them that bonuses were coming, they needed actual dates to pacify the workers. “Their staggered principle in paying the bonuses will only be understood if there are dates,” he said. “We also told them that they should give us pay dates for all the coming months and should never repeat the system of paying salaries after Christmas Day. They should engage a gear of urgency and relay back their position soon and implement what we need. A number of meetings have been lined up to fill up the gaps.”
Gundane said the workers wanted the government to do away with the pension deductions.
“The meeting didn’t meet the workers’ expectations. We haven’t agreed anything with the government and we left the meeting with the same position that we took to the meeting.
“There was hardly any progress. We’ve challenged the government to expedite everything that they’re doing to address these issues and make sure that they update us on the progress they would’ve made,” said Gundane.
He said one of the expectations was that the government would announce the bonus dates but it was not ready to do so.
“It’s unfortunate that the government is still not in a position to announce the dates for the payment of bonuses. We had a very contentious issue on the 7, 5 percent deductions from the December salaries, which went towards pension. We made a strong submission that this should be reversed because it was implemented without consultation and that there’s no space on the disposable income of the workers to deduct not only this particular deduction but any other envisaged deduction that the government is contemplating on,” said Gundane.
“During the meeting, the government came up with its rhetoric of commitment to pay bonuses. Their explanation to come up with the 7, 5 percent deductions is based on the resuscitation of the old pension scheme. From the workers’ point of view this isn’t the business that we want to talk about because we’ve talked about these issues before and we’re at a point where commitment must be realised through implementation,” said Gundane.
The government started deducting the pension this month since 2009 when every civil servant was getting $100. Despite the non-contribution, the government continued paying full pension benefits to workers on termination of employment before the situation became unsustainable as a huge back log of commutations accumulated.
“We simply want them to consider the deductions vis-à-vis the levels of income,” said College Lecturers Association of Zimbabwe president David Dzatsunga.
“The deductions mean government is progressively and unilaterally eating into the workers’ disposable income. It further takes us away from the poverty datum line salaries we’ve always clamoured for. It’s also clear that government is living from hand to mouth, but normally all pay dates should be known at the beginning of the year.”
Zimbabwe Rural Teachers Union president Martin Chaburumunda said they wanted “confidence in the system which would only come if the government honoured its pledges like paying the bonuses”.
The government is implementing a rationalisation exercise to cut its wage bill by more than $400 million annually by plugging unnecessary expenditure. As such, student teachers and trainees’ allowances have been reduced from $329 to $157, while salaries paid to teachers at trust and private schools by the state have been terminated. The government has also abolished all vacant posts and re-introduced bus fare for civil servants while funding of bridging courses has been scrapped.
Civil servants who were abusing various types of leave, tampering with pay sheets and attendance registers have been charged

Police Impound 100 Cars in Harare

cars harare
More than 100 unregistered vehicles have been impounded by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) for operating illegally in Harare.
Harare city is fast turning into a traffic jungle with illegal transport operators threatening lives of innocent citizens.
The ZRP has this year launched an operation code named ‘Mushikashika Kwete,’ to restore sanity in the capital.
ZRP National Spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba, said most of the impounded vehicles are not registered with the Central Vehicle Registry (CVR) and have various defects.
While hundreds of vehicles have been impounded, other ‘mushikashika’ operators were busy doing their movie style business where vehicles are fast turning into scotch carts.
It is however surprising that the public seems to be comfortable in using such dangerous and unroadworthy vehicles, not realising that their continued use of these vehicles gives the operators licence to continue operating.State Media

Lieutenant Colonel Otto said the bus was travelling from Zimbabwe to Johannesburg in Gauteng Province with 65 passengers on board including the bus crew. Lieutenant Colonel Otto said the bus’ wreckage was still in the road adding that they had temporarily closed the highway and urged motorists to use the Witvlag road as an alternative.
“The bus was travelling to Johannesburg and when it reached near Witvlag turn off the driver lost control resulting in it overturning killing four people (two male and two females )instantly. Mystery as Mahofa Takes Dodgy Sick Leave

Mystery surrounds the whereabouts of Masvingo Provincial Affairs minister Shuvai Mahofa, hospitalised on suspicion of food poisoning at the recently-ended Zanu PF national conference held in Victoria Falls, who government this week assigned sick leave.
Govt officials say Mahofa is still recuperating at home and has been granted sick leave.
Although Mahofa could not be reached for comment as her mobile phone has been constantly switched off, Southern Eye established that she did not report for duty yesterday, as her subordinates said she was on leave. Newsreaders however have queried the circumstances surrounding the granting of the sick leave seeing she has been out of work for over a month to date meaning “she should really be on unpaid leave”.
Masvingo provincial administrator Felix Chikovo could also not be reached for comment, as he was said to be out of the office.
A fortnight ago, government officials denied a ZimEye.com investigation revealing that Mahofa had been poisoned, saying she had had a malaria attack.
Mahofa’s daughter Nyengeterai also denied food poisoning claims, saying: “She is out of hospital. She is actually watching television. I don’t know about those allegations and I am truly surprised at that. We, the children, don’t know of the alleged food poisoning.”
Last year, Mahofa had her office shifted to the ground floor at Benjamin Burombo Building when she was appointed Provincial Affairs minister, as she could not climb up the stairs.
She said President Robert Mugabe appointed her to the powerful post in the province because of the trust he has in her, even though she struggles to stand up. – SouthernEye/ZimEye

James Maridadi Arrested

MDC-T Mabvuku legislator James Maridadi was arrested around 4am today by police detectives at Beitbridge border post after he was found shooting videos of customs officials and other travelers visiting the country through the border.
Maridadi was also accused of entering through the border post without a passport or a valid travel document. Sources at the border said Maridadi went to the border post in the company of a relative, Natasha Jonga (24) who wanted to import a Toyota Fortuner, 2005 model which was bought from Singapore.
“They arrived at the border around 1am and went through all the processes to facilitate the clearance of the vehicle under the returning residents’ facility. The woman, Natasha Jonga was a student at the Free State University in South Africa” said the official.
He said during the processing of the documents, Natasha was requested to provide an affidavit from her parents to confirm here residence in the country as per the requirements of the Customs and Excise Act since she doesn’t own any property in the country.
The official said Maridadi then became emotional threatening the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) officials who were attending to them with unspecified action saying he had got assurance from his associates at the parastatal’s head office in Harare.
“He then started shooting videos of customs officers and other travellers within the border post and was arrested by alert security personnel who took him to the main police station” said the official. Maridadi is likely to be charged with contravening sections of the Immigration and the Protected Places and Areas Acts respectively. The provincial police spokesperson for Matabeleland South Assistant Inspector Nkosilathi Sibanda could not be reached for comment but the legislator is still detained at Beitbridge main police station. – Agencies/State Media

Wales University Students In Zim For A Cultural Exchange Programme

In an effort to tell the true Zimbabwean story to the world Love Zimbabwe charity a organisation based in Wales, UK has brought in students from the University of Wales: Trinity Saint David (UWTSD), School of Archaeology, History and Anthropology (AHA) to tour the country’s historical and community groups to learn and share different cultural understanding between the two countries.

The visiting six students who arrived on Tuesday and leave Harare in three weeks’ time will be staying in Domboshawa at a community centre which was established by Love Zimbabwe where they will be assisting the Chinamhora community in a brick moulding project.
Martha Musonza Holman, the organisation’s founder and director said this trip is the beginning of more cultural exchange programmes they have lined up.
“Zimbabwe has an admirable culture that we can share with the entire world but most of all we want to promote sustainable development projects which alleviate local people’s lives through social enterprises,”Mrs Musonza Holman said.
“These students are coming to appreciate our arts and crafts and we want them to go back and help us establishing markets in the Wales and during their stay here in Zimbabwe they are going to meet our arts producers, putting value on the finished products and go back and sell for us and the money goes directly to the producers, that’s what is why I invited them specifically”.
Love Zimbabwe was established in 2010 and aims to engage different communities in sustainable living projects which are culturally and environmentally friendly.
Love Zimbabwe has constructed a community centre where different artefacts are being produced by locals. These are then shipped to the UK where they are sold under Fairtrade principles.
Love Zimbabwe has twinned schools in Abergavenny in Wales, with Chinamhora Village, and other schools around Harare.

Police Officers Beaten Up in Chitungwiza Riots

ZRP cops were yesterday attacked and one officer was as claimed “killed” in the middle of protests in Chitungwiza while attempting to deal with clashes between touts and Zanu PF youths.
The violent clashes triggered by council “exorbitant” operating fees (of $100) on kombi operators, turned nasty when residents taking guard to resist what they termed‘random attacks by the police, began fighting back.
A YARD (Youth Advocacy for Reform and Democracy) member present at the scene told ZimEye.com “the other hwindis rallied and went on a demonstration against the authorities stoning cars, police and barricading the roads.”

ZANU PF youths also began randomly beating up innocent residents while attacking officers in the way.
Unconfirmed reports said a police officer was killed in the process.
Meanwhile state journalists reported their version stating: About nine touts and commuter omnibus drivers were arrested. Rowdy youths and residents pelted kombis and other vehicles, shattering windows and causing various degrees of damages to the vehicles.
Running battles ensued, but the police managed to restore order within hours.
A few kombi operators who remained on the road hiked fares from $1 to $4 per trip, but were later forced to stop servicing the routes by their protesting counterparts. Police were deployed to hotspots at Makoni Shopping Centre, in St Mary’s and later in the day at Chigovanyika Shopping Centre.
Drivers said they decided to air their grievances because they were also losing money to police officers at roadblocks.
Chitungwiza Commuter Omnibus Union chairman Mr Lucky Pemba said: “We came here (at the municipality offices) to engage the council and find the way forward after they passed a resolution that each commuter omnibus has to pay an operating licence fee of $100 on top of the $17,50 we pay per month as operators’ permit.
“We do not want to be involved in violence, our mandate is to carry people. So, we are saying we do not have the money that they want. We need a reprieve.”
National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said investigations were under way.
“Commuter omnibus drivers, touts and rank marshals yesterday engaged in an unlawful demonstration as they went to Chitungwiza Town Council to stage a demonstration against council officials. In the process, misunderstandings occurred and police were called in to restore order. We managed to arrest nine touts and rank marshals.”
Chitungwiza Municipality spokesperson Mr Zaphania Mandirahwe said council would engage the commuter omnibus operators to find a way forward. In Harare, the 40 accused were charged with public violence when they appeared before magistrate Mr Elijah Makomo.
They were remanded to today for bail ruling. Prosecutor Ms Idah Maromo proved that on January 3 at around 4pm, Harare municipal police officers were enforcing city by-laws under an operation codenamed “Scorpion” meant to clear illegal passenger pick-up points by vehicles popularly known as “mushikashika”.
The court heard that 10 municipal police officers were dropped at the corner of Julius Nyerere Way and Robson Manyika Avenue by a council vehicle.
It is alleged that it was during this operation that the 40 began resisting the operation.
They allegedly teamed up and, while acting in common purpose with the other accused persons who are still at large, attacked the municipal police officers using stones, cardboard boxes and various metal objects.
The court heard that as a result of the assault, the municipal police officers sustained various injuries and sought medical treatment at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
It is alleged that the 40 were arrested on the same day while still in the vicinity of the scene of the crime.

Mugabe Warning Pastor Case: State Witness Vanishes

The case against Kariba pastor Patrick Mugadza who in December protested against President Robert Mugabe, saw the State Witness yesterday failing to appear as the trial opened.

The government’s main witness meant to testify against the preacher is currently missing and as a result the hearing has had to be adjourned to next month.
ZimEye.com can reveal it will now be heard on the 1st February after the presiding magistrate Lindiwe Maphosa was met with disappointment early Tuesday.
Meanwhile Mugadza has through his lawyer Thulani Nkala applied for bail conditions to be relaxed. At present the court is still in possession of his travel documents and he is also required to report to the local police station every Friday.
The outcome of that application is to be announced as soon as a magistrate peruses it.
Pastor Mugadza was charged with criminal nuisance and a magistrate granted him $500 bail which was later reduced to $50.
He has openly warned Robert Mugabe that he must listen to the cry of the poor according to Proverbs 21 verse 13 which reads: “Whoever shuts their ears to the cry of the poor will also cry out and not be answered.”

BRIBERY CHARGES:Arrested Prosecutor, Prison Guard Walk Away Scot Free

A KWEKWE-based prosecutor and a prison officer who were facing charges of accepting $150 bribe from an accused, have been acquitted.
The prosecutor Fortunate Mbizvo, 31, and Norest Makoto, 34, were found not guilty by provincial magistrate Phathekile Msipa.
Msipa said the evidence from state witneses was inconsistent. “The trap wasn’t properly established and there was no trap certificate issued,” said Msipa while acquitting Mbizvo and Makoto.
Allegations against the pair were that on September 15, last year Mbizvo prosecuted a case of contravening the Firearm Act, in which Epimarcko Mauto was the accused person.
Mauto was convicted and remanded in custody to September 16, for sentence. On the same day at around 4.30PM Mbizvo allegedly approached Peter Mutori who is a cousin to Mauto and advised him that he would facilitate for a lighter sentence for his cousin if he gives him a sum of $150.
On September 16, Mutori and his cousin Maxwell Chibogo were allegedly approached by Makoto who informed them that Mbizvo wanted to see them during lunch hour after the court session and they waited.
During lunch hour Mutori and Chibogo allegedly tried to negotiate for the bribe money to be reduced to $100 but Mbizvo allegedly refused.
The two later reported the case to the Criminal Investigation Department who set a trap. Mutori and Chibogo went to Mbizvo with the intention to give him the $150 as per their agreement and Mbizvo instructed them to hand it over to Makoto, it was alleged.
Mutori and Chibogo allegedly gave Makoto the money leading to the arrest of both Makoto and Mbizvo.State Media

Girl (11) Disappears In Swimming Pool, Dead Body Found An Hour Later

tmp_19429-hotelimg-1186289554
A festive season holiday for a Harare family was cut short after their 11-year-old daughter drowned in a swimming pool at Hwange Safari Lodge.
The incident occurred on Thursday last week and the girl has since been buried.
The girl has been identified as Ruvarashe Bianca Gotora from Athlone Avenue in Grendale, Harare.
She was playing with other children near the swimming pool when she suddenly disappeared only for her body to be retrieved from the swimming pool an hour later.
The girl’s uncle who only identified himself as White said he was too weak to speak about the issue and referred questions to the police saying he had made a report about the incident.
“As things stand we reported the matter to the police who handled everything and interviewed everyone who was there. I don’t think I’m in a position to give a statement without the police clearance,” said White.
Police spokesperson for Matabeleland North Inspector Siphiwe Makonese could not be drawn to confirm the incident.
The girl’s other uncle Shepherd Manyenga confirmed the death of his niece in a telephone interview from Marondera.
“She had gone with my brother-in-law (White) for a holiday with other children and on the third day the adults decided to swim.
“From what we were told the girl jumped into an adult swimming pool and my brother-in-law quickly pulled her away to where other children were.
“ He later went to buy drinks and when he came back the girl was nowhere to be seen. They looked for her and no one suspected she could have gone back to the swimming pool after being rebuked,” said Manyenga.
“Later on a grounds man entered the pool and found the body. That’s all we know because we were phoned and all we did was collect the body from Bulawayo.” State Media

Man Rapes Own Daughter (2)

A father who allegedly molested his two-year-old daughter has appeared in court facing rape charges. The man was entrusted with the custody of his daughter while the mother stayed behind in South Africa where she was working. Appearing before Mr Elijah Makomo yesterday, the man was not asked to plead. Mr Makomo remanded him in custody to January 21.
He advised him to apply for bail at the High Court as Mr Makomo’s jurisdiction does not grant him powers to give bail in such cases.
Prosecutor Ms Idah Maromo alleged that on November 20 last year, the man travelled from South Africa with his daughter on holiday.
The court heard that the two slept in the same room and bathed together. It is alleged that when the girl’s mother joined them for the holiday, she noticed that the girl’s genitals were swollen but did not take any action.
It is the State’s case that on New Year’s Day the mother noticed that the baby was not wearing her diaper and asked her to retrieve it.
The baby allegedly took the diaper from the bedroom where her father was sleeping. On the same day during the night the mother heard her daughter crying while she was in the bedroom with her father and when she was called out she went to her mother without her diaper on, it is alleged.
The court heard that the mother then noticed that her daughter’s genitals were swollen and had some white fluid on it.
The baby’s mother then suspected that her husband had raped their daughter and reported the matter to the police leading to the man’s arrest on January 3.State Media

“CIOs Shoot Down” Teachers’ Apex Council Meeting

The Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (RTUZ) says the Apex Council meeting was today crushed by CIO infiltrators.
Below was RTUZ’s statement on what it called “APEX Madness”
The Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (RTUZ) is saddened by the outcome of the Apex Council meeting which collapsed amid petty jostling for posts and shameless political jockeying by the various yellow unions in the Public Service, the majority of whose leadership has sold their political souls for the proverbial 30 pieces of silver to the employer via the dreaded CIO.
RTUZ did not attend today’s meeting as its leadership was accessing treatment after being bashed on the front line of fighting for teachers and the generality of civil servants, however the union is well informed of what transpired in the botched meeting.
The much hyped meeting which has turned out to be just a dump squib was expected to discuss the collective position of government workers on the crisis facing the civil service which is punctuated by lack of bonuses, massive opaque deductions from pay checks, late payment of salaries and general lethargy of the government towards delivering its mandate.
While the RTUZ never expected anything from this meeting where a few over fed union fat cats gathered to defend their supper what angers the union is the shameless behaviour by one Richard Gundane, from ZIMTA, who is attempting to impose himself as life chairperson of the Apex council. What ridiculous thinking!
While Gundane’s actions are pathetic, those of other unionists present were also far from encouraging as they failed to put Gundane and his madness in their proper place and carry on with the business of the day. To cry like little babies will not help the workers cause, radical action is needed to emancipate the workers and rescue them from the total collapse which the government is precipitating and this calls for serious and revolutionary leadership.
However, the happenings at today’s Apex Council meeting have vindicated RTUZ which yesterday, January 4, took to the streets and sent a clear message that as teachers and government workers we are unhappy with their continued irresponsibility and heartlessness of the current regime. The majority of Unions especially those in the teaching fraternity distanced themselves from the action and even went so much as to condemn the union for taking to the streets.
The basis of the flimsy attack on RTUZ was the vexatious and misplaced argument that today’s Apex Council meeting would be the panacea to the challenges raised by workers. Truth have since come to pass and the confusion, chaos, pettiness and hubris in the Apex Council has been laid bare for all to see.
Now that all can see how cowardly elements who have hijacked unionism can in broad day light betray workers, it remains without question that RTUZ’s proposals of restoration of workers rights via payment of full salaries on time, immediate disbursement of bonuses to all civil servants and strike action in the event of failure is indeed the only practical solution to the current crisis.
The Union will however attend tomorrow’s NJNC meeting and state its unequivocal position. Those yellow unions and unruly elements masquerading as unionists must be warned that if they repeat their dastardly actions which characterized today’s meeting the Union will not tire to name and shame them.

Grace Insult Wadyajena Trial Quashed

The trial of Gokwe-Nembudziya member of the National Assembly, Justice Mayor Wadyajena, who is being accused of criminally insulting the First Lady, Grace Mugabe, failed to kick off this Tuesday afternoon after the defence counsel applied for refusal of further remand.
Wadyajena (35) was arrested in Victoria Falls soon after the 15th Zanu PF Annual National People’s Conference for allegedly denigrating the First Lady and appeared in court on charges of criminal insult.
He was later released on US$800 bail.
His lawyer, Mr Givemore Muvhiringi told the State Media the section that his client was charged on, Section 95(1a) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, was declared unconstitutional by the Constitutional Court, implying that the accused has no criminal case to answer.
The defence counsel also made an application to allow the accused to be absent from the court when the ruling on the application for refusal of further remand is made on Tuesday next week.
The application was however dismissed and the accused will be expected to appear in court for the ruling.

VIDEO: Police Brutalise Teachers Protesting

The charismatic preacher, who commands a large following across the globe, is famed for prophesying the death of the late Malawian leader, Bingu wa Mutharika, in 2012, a predication which came to pass that same year.
“End of February to April this year, peculiar months for Southern Africa. Organise prayer sessions for the leaders,” TB Joshua said, without elaborating.
He said he would not reveal anything regarding the calamity likely to befall a Southern African leader because the message was highly sensitive.
But the prophecy has ignited panic in Zimbabwe — a country that has its economy on the brink and is under the stewardship of the soon-to-be 92-year-old President Robert Mugabe.
While the prophecy could raise consternation in Zimbabwe, local authorities may take heart that two other Malawian prophets have made similar prophecies that proved to be fake.
First to strike was controversial Malawian prophet, Austin Liabunya, who told his church during a New Year cross-over service in Lilongwe on January 1, 2015 that “Mugabe’s biological clock will not tick beyond this year”.
In February 2015, another Malawian prophet, Kenneth Eagle, of the Holy Tabernacle Ministries in Lilongwe, claimed the Zimbabwean leader would not end last year alive.
Zanu PF spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo yesterday refused to comment on the matter, saying he was now seized with party policy issues and would not respond to “mere matters”.
“This year, I am commenting on policy issues only, not everything that you guys want a comment on,” he said.
TB Joshua also had a good message for South Africans, whose currency has been on a free-fall, saying the instability currently being experienced was temporary.
He, however, warned that the region would experience its worst food shortages in living memory.
“There will be scarcity and shortage of food because of little rain and at wrong times, which is not good for farming. Many farmers will be discouraged,” TB Joshua said.
As advice to the region, TB Joshua said construction of dams and irrigation projects could solve the food crisis.
The well-travelled preacher also warned governments not to surrender their companies to foreigners due to desperation.
He said the crisis bedevilling the region would come to an end by mid-year and that the countries would come out of the problems stronger than before.
TB Joshua’s prophecy is also likely to rouse interest in Zambia, where two presidents have died while in office in recent years.

New WHO, AIDS Treatment Guidelines Trouble Gvt

The new HIV treatment guidelines which have just been introduced by the World Health Organisation are giving  headaches to the country’s struggling health sector, a senior government official has said.
The latest WHO HIV guidelines mandate governments to put on treatment all people who would have tested positive for HIV on treatment within one month.
What this means is that Zimbabwe has to put more people on HIV treatment at a time the country is failing to place all people living with HIV on treatment.
There are at least 1.5 million people who are living with HIV in Zimbabwe and only 850 000 are on treatment.
Dr Owen Mugurungi the director of HIV and TB in the Ministry of Health and Child Care told reporters  attending a Health Journalists Association of Zimbabwe HEJAZ organised health talk show in Harare recently that the new WHO HIV guidelines has bought in an additional 300 000 people who should immediately be administered on  HIV treatment on top of the 905,368 who are in dire need of the life saving drug.
“As a nation we should be prepared to make hard choices to make sure that there is enough resources for the health sector because investment in health is also investment  in the future of your country because if you cannot invest in the health of your country then you have challenges and you run the risk of always be on the lookout and watch out saying what if, what if..,” said Dr Mugurungi .
Dr Mugurungi said they are hopes that the civil society and development partners might extend funding  the health sector.
“On commodity security in terms of medicines we are better and I am happy that the confirmation from the civil society that there are less drug stock outs it is a confirmation that it’s something that is reassuring, but we would want to come to a situation that there are drugs for everyone”.

Massive Livestock Deaths as Drought Hits Masvingo

cattle-deaths
By Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo |The Province of Masvingo, a perennial drought prone zone has once again been rocked by the disaster and massive deaths of livestock have been reported across the province.
Although state broadcaster ZBC weakly reported that efforts were underway to avert drought, investigations by ZimEye.com revealed hundreds of cattle and donkeys are dying in Chiredzi’s Chikombedzi, Boli and Mhlanguleni areas while villagers face looming starvation.
According to Agritex officials at Benjamin Burombo Building in Masvingo, Chiredzi, Chivi and Zimuto areas are the worst affected by the drought with villagers already surviving on one meal a day. AGRITEX further indicated government had no capacity to combat the drought catastrophe.
“We can now declare Masvingo Province “a danger zone” in terms of the intensity of Drought. Crops in Chivi, Chiredzi and Zimuto are a total write off and at the moment we are just waiting for donor assistance since the government alone cannot combat drought,” said an AGRITEX official.
Meanwhile it has also been reported villagers in Chikombedzi are selling one beast for as little as $ 50 to avoid total loss since cattle are dying in the area. Under normal circumstances one beast costs $ 400.
Villagers in Chiredzi District have been neglected by the government for years and despite the fact that the area is a Zanu PF stronghold local people have continued to grapple with poverty and drought among other social ills.

Civil Servants Free to Dissent: Mliswa

MLISWA-YARD4
YOUTH ADVOCACY FOR REFORM & DEMOCRACY (YARD) Press statement on Monday’s Continued Police Brutality Against the Peaceful Protestors who Engaged in a March Against the Government’s Delayed Disbursement of Civil Servants’ Salaries and Bonuses
4th January 2016
The Youth Advocacy for Reform & Democracy (YARD) wishes to express its abhorrence that the epidemic of police violence and brutality continues uninterrupted in our country. Moreso our repugnance overflows to the Government of the day for giving free reign to the perpetrators of such violence. We condemn and protest against the high-handed crackdown of police on peaceful teachers, civil servants and the youth in Harare today, Monday the 4th of January 2016.
The impunity enjoyed by members of the law enforcement agencies is roundly denounced and we rise in solidarity with the thousands of civil servants who have been robbed of their hard-earned salaries and bonuses and further had insult added to injury by being beaten down for daring to illustrate and display their frustrations and sheer hopelessness at the situation.
This is despite the application for the peaceful march having been dutifully and procedurally submitted to the police. The peoples’ right to dissent has been gagged by the authorities and their democratic right to protest against the government, violated. It is shameful that police could not tolerate even a peaceful protest and shockingly tried to disperse the protesters using reprehensible means.
In our observation, YARD recommends that the Judiciary, Government and Parliament immediately:-
* Ensures that there should be an immediate stop on any mode of repression on peaceful Democratic movements.
* Ensures that all instances of police brutality and excessive use of force by law enforcement officers are investigated promptly, effectively and impartially by an independent mechanism with no institutional or hierarchical connection between the investigators and the alleged perpetrators
* Ensures that reforms and the right of freedom of speech and association must be respected as enshrined in the Constitution of Zimbabwe.
* Prosecutes persons suspected of torture or ill treatment and, if found guilty, ensure that they are punished in accordance with the gravity of their acts.
* Provide effective remedies and rehabilitation to the victims
Today’s display of violence against peace loving Zimbabweans only serves as a prelude to what may be expected come the elections scheduled for 2018 and a reminder of the harshness of the system we advocate against. What is more disappointing is the fact that Zimbabwe chairs the AU and recently chaired the SADC and therefore is held in high esteem and regarded as a country with one of the highest literacy rates and yet it defies logic and is contradictory that we resort to violence and are viewed by the international community as disrespecting human rights.
The unjustified incarceration of Obert Masaraure and Pride Mukono of the Rural Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe, yet again, as well as that of Robson Chere, the YARD Provincial Committee Member for Recruitment & Mobilisation for Mashonaland East is unwarranted and we demand their immediate acquittal and release.
YARD will continue with its support of like-minded unions and organisations and looks forward to the day that will see the youth occupy their space and have 40% representation in local and national elective office.

Police Violently Disrupt Civil Servants Demo

Several people were injured, while three were arrested in Harare yesterday, as riot police crushed a protest march organised by the Rural Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe (RTUZ) to press the government to urgently release civil servants’ December salaries.

Police blocked the placard-waving demonstrators along Nelson Mandela Avenue close to Parliament Building and randomly beat them with truncheons and later arrested RTUZ president, Obert Masaraure, secretary-general Robson Chere and programmes officer, Pride Mkono.
Zimbabwe Activists Alliance (ZAA) national co-ordinator, Lynette Mudehwe was also assaulted in the melee, together with an unidentified woman.
The estimated 30 demonstrators comprised of RTUZ members, ZAA, vendors’ associations and students’ unions.
The demonstrators, who held placards denouncing the Zanu PF government for misgovernance, said they wanted to petition Finance minister Patrick Chinamasa to speed up the payment of civil servants’ salaries and bonuses for 2015.
Passersby were also not spared the police wrath, as they were beaten up while shops close by were temporarily closed, as the police got busy, beating up almost everyone on sight.
Shortly before the march, Masaraure had addressed the group, calling on President Robert Mugabe to cut short his annual holiday in the Far East to return home and address pressing domestic issues.
“President Mugabe is flying in and out of the country while civil servants are suffering. (Vice-President Phelekezela) Mphoko is staying in a hotel at the civil servants’ expense. We are here in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the army, police and civil servants who cannot stand for themselves,” he said.
After his address, the protesters started marching and sang songs demanding Chinamasa, Mphoko and Mugabe immediately provide funds for civil servants’ salaries.
Mkono also addressed the activists saying: “They (government ministers) drive around in cars that breathe as if they are human beings.”
Mkono continued his address even in the presence of police officers, prompting the law enforcement agents to spring into action.
“Rovai vanhu ka vakomana (Beat them up guys),” a police officer, who appeared to be the commander of the troop, was heard shouting.
Moments later, truckloads of armed officers arrived on the scene.
The activists’ lawyer Gift Mtisi said his clients were severely assaulted and he was, by late yesterday, still trying to negotiate that they be taken to hospital for treatment.
“They are being charged with participation in an illegal demonstration. I am not sure whether they will be detained or not, but I am still trying to have them released so that they get medical attention,” he said.
Meanwhile, Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe chief executive, Emmanuel Nyawo described the RTUZ demonstration as ill-timed and meant to gain political mileage by known opposition players masquerading as teachers’ representative organisations.
Nyawo said the Apex Council was meeting today and if those involved in yesterday’s demonstration were genuine, they would have forwarded their grievances for deliberations.
“If they are genuine trade unionists, let us tell them that all unions table their challenges through the Apex Council and any issues synonymous with their perceived concerns are best and formally discussed via that platform. This is why we are having the Apex Council meeting tomorrow (today) in preparation for a National Joint Negotiating Council meeting on the following day,” Nyawo said.
Chinamasa yesterday refused to answer questions on civil servants’ outstanding salaries. -newsday

Guard Sjamboks Rapist Caught In The Sex Attack

A SECURITY guard heroically rescued a Bulawayo woman from a man whom he caught allegedly raping her and trying to strangle her on Sunday at around 1AM.
The woman (name withheld) nearly choked in the savage early morning assault that occurred in an apartment at Crescent Court near the Bulawayo Power Station before Dickson Nungu used a sjambok to subdue the suspected rapist.
Nungu of Mpopoma, a guard at Esats Store close to the crime scene said he intervened after hearing the woman screaming for help for more than 30 minutes.
“I heard prolonged screams of a woman at the flat opposite my work place. For a while I thought probably it was some patient from the nearby 24 hour surgery,” he said.
“After hearing the pleading cries begging someone for help for more than 30 minutes, I got worried and stood up trying to figure out where exactly the screams where coming from.”
Nungu said he discovered the screams were coming from a neighbouring apartment when he saw scores of tenants peeping through their windows.
“I went straight to a door on the ground floor where I asked what was happening. Some tenants said they had been involved in skirmishes with robbers countless times and so wouldn’t take the risk of stepping outside to save whoever was in trouble,” he went on.
“I asked where exactly the screams were coming from and they said usually it would be in the corridors heading upstairs.”
The Good Samaritan said he rushed back to his workplace where he armed himself with a sjambok and went straight to the scene. He said he was prepared to save the victim who sounded so much in pain, no matter the risk.
“When I went up the corridor, I found a man who looked in his 30s with his pants below his knees — raping and throttling the woman who was almost unconscious. The woman who said she was 26-years-old was bleeding from the nose, mouth and had a big cut on her shoulder,” said Nungu.
He said the moment the assailant saw him, he tried to take out something from his pockets but he did not give him the chance as he feared he could take out a dangerous weapon.
“I immediately struck him once with the sjambok and he tried to retaliate, coming towards me before I gave him a second stroke.
“By then people were all over the place. Still pants down, he went onto his knees and begged for forgiveness but I quickly handcuffed him,” said Nungu.
“In no time the police were there and arrested him. Upon asking him a few questions, he responded using signs like he was deaf and dumb.”
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango said:“I can confirm receiving a report on rape and investigations are underway.” The victim was said to be admitted to a local hospital.
A neighbour who only identified herself as MaTsha said they felt helpless because they could not open their doors, which were close to the scene to save the woman.
“It’s unfortunate we’re not safe and are endangered at that apartment because of its proximity to bars and night clubs where criminals hide.
“So many times tenants have been left nursing wounds after trying to save people at night,” she said. MaTsha said the woman only revealed her age and that she had been drinking at Waverley Hotel.
“Amongst the crowd were some girls who said they had seen the assailant an hour earlier picking up the woman from the floor in the bar and carrying her on his back.
“They said they thought the two knew each other.
“The woman had begged this man to stop but it’s clear he raped her and she didn’t know him,” she said.
“It’s never wise for women to drink until they pass out because probably had she been sober she could have managed to fight this vicious man. “Imagine had it not been for this brave man, she could have been killed.” chronicle

Mujuru’s People First-UK Implodes

Way before she comes out of her hide-out, Mujuru's party struggles in UK
Way before she comes out of her hide-out, Mujuru’s party struggles in UK

Barely two weeks after it was set up, the highly celebrated People First UK Province has crumbled.
The party has dissipated into vapour after its leadership slid into accusations and counter-accusations of corruption and nepotism against one another.
The in-fighting has seen the organisation suffocating barely a month into its formation.
Chairman Josh Chigwangwa together with his committee have been dissolved following fiery allegations that one of his aides a few days ago began secretly communicating with the British Government’s Foreign Office Department.
A letter written to Joice Mujuru and Didymus Mutasa states in part:
“We respectfully request your cooperation in regards to certain changes that recently occurred in our UK province the changes that we as UK province have to adhere to for our party structures to start functioning effectively. There is a problem that is disproportionately impacting the way we operate as People First here in the United Kingdom. The list of points below illustrates the need for an overhaul of the UK executive.
(1) We have 2 groups working under People First here in the UK, one led by Cde Tichatonga and the other by Mr Josh Chigwangwa, this is causing a lot of confusion to our supporters, so we have found a perspective common ground to work together as it is crucial to our ability to better serve.
(2) We have discovered that the current chairman is sowing the seeds of division among other committee members by: disregarding and overriding positive contribution put across by other members. The UK executive’s crucial and powerful positions are comprised of mainly the Chairman’s relative and friends, recently he gave a directive to one of his top ally to request a meeting with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, without agreeing with the other committee members. As we are party of the management committee we are very much concerned about this development as we agreed that until the party is launched that is when we shall engage the international community. There is lack of transparency in UK province under Mr Chigwangwa, he is the one that have personal differences with Cde Tichatonga, Mr Maison Masiwa Table and other guys who were unconstitutionally sacked from our executive. As an executive we have decided to start restructuring of the executive for the benefit of the party not individuals we shall be working as one People First. Ever since we started operating no notes were taken down but we have a secretary, we have more members now who are patiently awaiting to start branches but the chair is not taking the issue seriously, The reason for them to rush to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office was to get access to the donor funds which they will not as long as we are there to defend the party from rogue members.
(3) Yesterday I Bernard Madzura wrote a statement on the management group demanding to know the whereabouts of the email from Commonwealth Office and to encourage all members to work as a team for the best interest of the party but I was surprised to hear the former chair Mr Josh Chigwangwa attacking me left and right, he told me to go back to MDC he told me the things I have never heard in my entire life. Few of the powerful positions that are occupied by his relatives and friends are as follows:
. Interim former Chairman Mr Josh Chigwangwa is related to the Treasure Ms Mary Marufu.
. Interim Secretary Mr Raymond Mukada related to Author Janjawa
. Interim Treasure and vice. Mary Marufu and her vice who are both related to Mr Josh Chigwangwa.
. Interim International relations: Washington Ali who was controversially appointed by Josh Chigwangwa and Raymond Mukada.
. Interim Fundraising Secretary: Mr Aurthur Janjawa
We have as a committee discovered that the above mentioned are not working in the interest of the party they are rather there for personal reasons in respect of this we as determined cadres of People First we have decided to suspend the chairman Mr Josh Chigwangwa for the above mentioned reasons, the vice chair Mr Phil Noble is now the interim chair until we have the next executive meeting. I was directed by the executive to inform you about this development.
People First is power, People First is the answer and People First is the government!!!

Hospital Horror Rages on as Govt Watches

No improvement at government hospitals.

Nurses on go slow at Mpilo Hospital today
Nurses on go slow at Mpilo Hospital today

Doctors and nurses at State hospitals continued with their go slow protest today as they wait for their December 2015 salaries the State claims it is depositing tomorrow morning.
A survey around hospitals revealed that some doctors and nurses reported for duty today but were all on a go slow exercise which saw most of them dle around the hospitals doing nothing.
Some nurses interviewed on condition of anonymity said that they reported for duty following threats from unspecified sources that if they did not report for duty “they will be dealt with.”
According to the nurses the spirit remains low amongst the health workers as they protest their delayed salaries and bonuses. The workers claim to be doing very minimal work or taking their time to carry out their duties to express their concerns with government.
The acting Minister of Public Service Dr Lazarus Dokora assured the health workers that they will receive their salaries tomorrow.
Doctors report that as a result of the strike action, mortality rates have increased at the state infirmaries.
Meanwhile the labourers have been issued payslips displaying an undiscussed 7.5% pension deduction. The workers have also in the interim been getting a dollar a day from the hospital accounts departments for transport to and from home.
Spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Nurses’ Association told media today that should health workers wake up with their salaries in their bank accounts tomorrow they will resume full operations. The union threatens that if by January 31 their full January salary are unpaid they will undertake a full fledged and indefinite strike action.

Girlfriend Killer On The Run

Gaborone, Botswanwa – Broadhurst police are on the hunt for a Zimbabwean man, Nkosinathi Ndlovu, who allegedly killed his girlfriend on Christmas eve at Ruretse and left a note for the girl’s mother.
Superintendent Bonosi Molapise confirmed the incident but said the suspect was still on the run. “We’re still pursuing the matter and the suspect is still at large. We wish to appeal to members of the public to provide any information that may lead to his arrest,” he said.
The deceased’s mother who was in Francistown at the time is said to have received a call from Ndlovu informing her that he killed her daughter, Neo Mondiya, following a misunderstanding.
She then reported the matter to Francistown police who then alerted Broadhurst police.
Mondiya’s half naked body was found on Christmas day in Ndlovu’s employer’s house who at the time was on holiday in South Africa.
Next to the body the police found a note which read in part: “I am sorry for what happened because I killed my girlfriend, she was lying to me all the time but anyway I killed myself on the river next to the the bridge…”
Mondiya’s body was taken to Princess Marina Hospital but Ndlovu was nowhere to be found. – TheVoice

Madzongwe for Presidency

Post-congress Zanu PF bigwigs opposed to embattled Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa succeeding President Robert Mugabe have vowed that a woman will return to the ruling party’s powerful presidium this year, most likely at his expense.
Speaking to the Daily News at the weekend, party officials linked to the former liberation movement’s ambitious Young Turks known as the Generation 40 (G40), who are said to be working closely with the women’s league to derail Mnangagwa, said Senate president Edna Madzongwe, and not First Lady Grace Mugabe, was likely to be the woman VP.
“It is now a question of when in 2016, not whether we will have a woman VP. Last December’s (Zanu PF) conference set a clear deadline that 2016 would be the year that gender parity would be realised in the presidium.
“Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing will stop women from realising their long-cherished dream, and that woman is likely to be Mai Madzongwe, and not Dr Amai (Grace), whom you guys wrongly accused of wanting to succeed the president,” one of the bigwigs said.
Insiders agree that if the increasingly frail Mugabe does move to appoint a woman vice president this year, in line with the wishes of Zanu PF’s women’s league and the majority of the party’s provinces, this will most likely see Mnangagwa being demoted to a lower position.
Women’s league senior member and Goromonzi West MP, Beatrice Nyamupinga — who is also the chairperson of the parliamentary portfolio committee on Women’s Affairs, Gender and Community Development — told the Daily News yesterday that while 2015 had variously been dubbed Gore Rezvidzidzo (the year of learning), 2016 was the Women’s Year.
She called on men to warm up to the idea of a woman occupying the second highest office in the land if Zimbabwe entertained any hopes of developing the nation.
“We want women to start from the top where crucial decisions are made because we have seen women do well the world over.
“They have excelled in universities and if they can shine in academia what can stop them from shining in national governance as vice president?” Nyamupinga said.
She noted that other countries in the Sadc region, such as Zambia where the vice president Inonge Mutukwa Wina was a woman, were advanced in promoting women.
And speaking while addressing Zanu PF supporters in her constituency at the weekend, Nyamupinga assured them that the party would soon have a woman deputising Mugabe.
“Do not worry yourselves folks, we made a resolution which was tabled at the conference in Victoria Falls that whenever a man leads, there must be a woman vice president and that will come to pass soon,” she said to applause.
Meanwhile, another well-placed source told the Daily News at the weekend that Mnangagwa had allegedly had a major fall out with the First Family, which — if true — further dimmed his hopes of succeeding Mugabe.
The source claimed that this was the reason why VP Phelekezela Mphoko had once again been chosen to be the acting president, for the second successive occasion, instead of Mnangagwa, while Mugabe was on his normal festive season break.
“The last time Mugabe was out of the country when he went to South Africa for the Sino-African summit it was Mphoko who was acting president.
“Under normal circumstances, it was supposed to have been Ngwena’s (Mnangagwa’s) turn but that did not happen,” the insider pointed out.
And with Mnangagwa struggling to live up to the popular caricature of his nickname, that of a ruthless crocodile, in Zanu PF’s seemingly-unstoppable factional and succession wars, his supporters are being pummelled left, right and centre by their marauding party foes.
Just like what happened a decade ago when many of his most ardent supporters were decimated after the so-called Tsholotsho Declaration, after being accused of plotting to oust Mugabe from power, history appears to be repeating itself with his close allies again being picked off one by one by their party enemies, like lambs to the slaughter.
And Lacoste himself, as Mnangagwa is fondly referred to by his loyal followers, once again stands accused of doing little that is visible in the public domain to protect leading members of his support group who are on the receiving end of the savage and unrelenting factional mauling.
Among the alleged allies of Mnangagwa who have recently come under severe pressure from inside Zanu PF are Gokwe-Nembudziya legislator Justice Mayor Wadyajena, Water minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, former Manicaland women’s league chairperson Happiness Nyakuedzwa, and the power couple of Monica and Christopher Mutsvangwa.
Wadyajena stands accused of denigrating Grace while he was allegedly engaging in “political banter” with businessman and fellow Zanu PF official Jimayi Muduvuri during the ruling party’s December conference that was held in Victoria Falls.
Nyakuedzwa and another alleged VP close ally, former Mashonaland Central youth league chairperson Godfrey Tsenengamu, were recently suspended from the ruling party for five years on allegations of fanning factionalism.
Former Harare provincial chairperson Godwills Masimirembwa, former Harare women’s league chairperson Ratidzo Mukarati and former Masvingo chairperson Paradzai Chakona — all perceived strong backers of Mnangagwa — have also suffered votes of no confidence that were upheld by the party.
Mutsvangwa — another one of Mnangagwa’s alleged close allies — also received a vote of no confidence from Mashonaland West province, putting his party and government positions in jeopardy.
Mutsvangwa’s wife, Monica — a deputy minister — was also recently booted out of the women’s league for defying the First Family, while Muchinguri-Kashiri came under severe shellacking in Manicaland and in a recent politburo meeting.
Muchinguri-Kashiri’s troubles, according to insiders who spoke to the Daily News, came after she allegedly told Grace in the politburo meeting that she was the most senior party official in Manicaland, and thus always needed to be consulted on important decisions impacting on the region — in addition to insinuating that Grace had allegedly failed to run the women’s league properly.
“This angered Amai (Grace) and as she spoke, she got angrier and angrier, saying ‘wakabvira kare uchindijairira … (You have never respected me)” — apparently going on to give Muchinguri-Kashiri a severe tongue-lashing which resulted in the Water minister crying.
And there is no record in all these cases that Mnangagwa has done much to support or protect his allies, a failing that well-placed sources say the VP was guilty of in 2004/5 when his supporters were cast into the political wilderness for fighting for him. – DailyNews

Zambia Removes its President Again This Year (2016)

Going out ....President Edgar Lungu
Going out ….President Edgar Lungu

Barely a year after its Presidential elections last year January (2015), Zambia is changing its leader.

Reuters – Zambia will hold presidential and parliamentary elections on Aug. 11 under a new constitution, a government spokesman said on Monday.
The elections are expected to be tight contest between President Edgar Lungu’s ruling Patriotic Front (PF) party and Hakainde Hichilema’s opposition United Party for National Development (UPND).
Lungu is expected to assent to the constitutional amendments on Tuesday, ratifying the election date, his spokesman Amos Chanda said.
Under the previous constitution, the president set the election date every five years.
“The new constitution has a fixed election date and that will take effect as soon as the president signs,” Chanda told Reuters.
Other amendments include a clause requiring a winning presidential candidate to get more than 50 percent of the valid votes cast, he said.
Presidential candidates will run on a joint ticket with a vice-presidential candidate, unlike the present situation where the president appoints his deputy, Chanda said.

Vast Resources Gets $7mln from US Fund

Pickstone-Peerless
London-listed junior miner Vast Resources on Monday announced that it had secured a $ 7,3 million investment from United States-based venture capital firm Crede Capital, which will take up shareholding in the company.
Vast, previously African Consolidated Resources (AFCR), owns 50 percent of Pickstone-Peerless gold mine in Chegutu — 100 kilometres south-west of Harare. It also has operations in Romania.
According to a Binding Subscription Agreement entered into by the two companies, Vast would issue Ordinary Shares to Crede Capital in four separate tranches to Creed Capital for an investment of £5 million.
In a statement on Monday, chief executive Roy Pitchford said the financing was key and may be utilised for general working capital purposes.
“Securing a long term, cornerstone investor has been a requirement of the Company since its transition from a junior explorer to a mine operating company,” said Pitchford.
Pitchford said the financing was staged to minimise dilution to existing shareholders while simultaneously providing maximum flexibility to the company.
Following the issue of the first tranche, Crede Capital would hold 156,250,000 Ordinary Shares representing 8.61 per cent of Vast Resources issued share capital.
Crede Capital is a family fund focused on life sciences, healthcare, energy, natural resources, media, social media and technology.
Since its inception in 2009, Crede has completed approximately 115 transactions, committing in excess of $900 million in capital.-The Source

Makandiwa, Magaya Prophesy Economy Boom for Zimbabwe in 2016

” 2016 is a year of great harvest as there will be no depression and sorrows,” – Emmanuel Makandiwa
“God said to me, 2016 is the year of overflow and abundance,” – Emmanuel Makandiwa

Report By The Standard

Prophetic Healing and Deliverance ministries leader, Walter Magaya and his United Families International Church counterpart, Emmanuel Makandiwa say 2016 will bring better economic fortunes despite indications of a tough year ahead.

ZBC ignores hospital crisis, CIO agents compile list of striking nurses

The state broadcaster the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation has in its news bulletins, completely ignored informing the nation about the dire situation the nation faces at the country’s major hospitals.
Doctors and nurses at hospitals countrywide have been on a massive go slow labour protest which began on the 1st of January culminating to a near full fledged strike by last night.
According to sources from the Zimbabwe Health Doctors Association and the Zimbabwe Nurses Association, about 90% of their members scheduled to had been at work last night did not report for duty. The few who turned up either just cannot cope with the workload or are on a deliberate go slow.
By late last night the situation at the hospitals was already at critical as reports of increased deaths of patients due to lack of attention began rising.
The state media down played the situation in its reportage yesterday dishing out false and misleading details of the situation on the ground.
Meanwhile, a nurse employed at the United Bulawayo Hospitals who was on duty last night reported the presence of what she described as” strange men” who arrived at the hospital late last night checking on staff who did not report for duty as scheduled. According to the nurse the people were somewhat unkind and intolerant as they demanded names and contacts of all those who did not report for duty.
As of this morning (Monday), several hospitals were reporting a record low number of nurses and doctors.
In a combined statement issued yesterday, the ZHDA and ZINA urged their members not to report for duty this morning.
The doctors and nurses have not been paid their December 2015 salaries and bonuses which government has promised to pay on the 9th of January. In the meantime, government has paid the doctors and nurses on average $20 each which is transport money at public transport rates to get them to work while they wait for their salaries.

Grace Blitz as Kasukuwere Threatens To Fire Masvingo Bosses

kasukuwere_412x232
By Terrence Mawawa Masvingo|Zanu PF Political Commissar and Local Government Minister, Saviour Kasukuwere has threatened to fire Masvingo City Council bosses over their defiance of a party directive to donate towards his party’s annual conference held in Victoria Falls in December.
Authoritative sources at the City Council told ZimEye.com last week Kasukuwere demanded an explanation from the Town Clerk, Adolf Gusha on the city council’s failure to make donations towards the Zanu PF conference. Gusha is a known Zanu PF sympathiser who has been shielded by the ruling party over the past years.
The Council sources said the city fathers were quaking in their boots since Kasukuwere threatened to visit the troubled local authority to effect disciplinary action on named officials .
“Kasukuwere ordered Gusha the Town Clerk to explain why council failed to donate towards the Zanu PF conference. Now the minister is expected to come to Masvingo on a fact finding exercise.
“He also threatened to dismiss those who defied the ruling party’s directive and the bosses are in a quandary.
“The council is also grappling with a ballooning debt in excess of $4 million dollars,” said a council employee . Zanu PF ordered parastatals, private companies and the informal sector to donate towards the party’s conference where some 300 delegates including President Robert Mugabe were flown to the resort town.
Kasukuwere who is said to be the architect of the G40 faction, is reportedly unhappy with the council management’s defiance of the Zanu PF directive and is expected to weed out those perceived to be against the First Lady Grace Mugabe.
Many local government institutions and also companies are struggling to breathe financially as a result of unfavourable economic conditions in the country.

Makandiwa Hit By Wife Belly Bulge

MAKANDIWA-HIT-BY-WIFE
United Family Church founder Emmanuel Makandiwa who last year claimed he flattens fat bellies, has been hit by reality-scare from his own wife’s bulging belly.

In June last year Makandiwa after he was exposed for having faked a fat belly miracle, began defending himself challenging journalists to come forward to have their bellies flattened. But six months later the preacher popularly known as “The Prophet,” has failed to flatten his wife’s bulging belly. Pictures of Ruth Makandiwa show her belly as worse than even the women the preacher said he healed (in the state they were shown to be by his church cameras).

The below footage show the ZimEye.com expose on the preacher’s embarrassing claims.

Chiyangwa To Remove Asiagate Bans

Zifa boss Phillip Chiyangwa is set to review Asiagate bans. The Zimbabwe Football Association Executive Committee will at its next meeting deliberate on reviewing Asiagate bans and other sanctions that were imposed on various individuals by the previous board whose mandate was revoked last October.
“In an effort to find closure , I will propose that the issue of reviewing Asiagate sanctions be discussed at our next executive committee meeting”, ZIFA President Dr Phillip Chiyangwa told the Association’s official website www.zifa.org.zw.
“We understand some players, officials and journalists were banned for their alleged role in the Asiagate scandal.
“We feel it is prudent to review such sanctions and unite members of the football fraternity,” said Dr Chiyangwa.
The term Asiagate was coined in reference to a widely publicised match- fixing scandal that involved players and officials of the Zimbabwe National Football Team between 2007 and 2009. It is alleged that these underwent fixing syndicates-sponsored tours in mostly Southeast Asia between 2007 and 2009 and were paid varying sums of money to deliberately lose several hastily arranged friendly games by predetermined scores for betting purposes.
A Singaporean national, ex-convict Wilson Raj Perumal, reportedly played a pivotal role in the Asiagate scandal. Perumal has been described as “the world‘s most prolific match-fixer” for his involvement in several cases of match-fixing across six continents.
He has admitted in his book, Kelong Kings, to lead a syndicate that makes millions in profits every year from its fixing activities.

Society says I’m Blind, But I “See”

Harare Engineer Kicked Out On Forced Leave

zvobgo-christopher
Harare Water director Engineer Christopher Zvobgo, has been sent on forced leave with immediate effect to pave way for investigations following rampant illegal water connections to the city’s main line.
Eng Zvobgo’s forced leave follows a directive from Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister Saviour Kasukuwere that he be suspended.
Harare Mayor Bernard Manyenyeni yesterday confirmed receiving the letter and said Eng Zvobgo would be away until mid-January while a report of the investigation was being finalised.
“I can confirm that we received the minister’s communication over that matter, which is already in the public domain. As council, we are considering the contents of the letter,” he said.
“Eng Zvobgo is now on leave pending examination of the matter which exercise is nearly finalised so we expect some position on the matter when council resumes business in 2016.”
This is not the first time Eng Zvobgo has been in trouble. The city dismissed him in 2001 after the Local Government Board approved his firing on allegations of mismanagement.
This resulted in long-running labour dispute in the Labour Court and High Court in which Eng Zvobgo won and was reinstated.
Minister Kasukuwere during a fact- finding tour of some areas where houses were demolished and several co-operatives dotted around Harare recently, said there was need for a shake-up at Harare City Council to restore order in the city, adding that Eng Zvobgo should be in the know of what was going on with regard to water supplies to these areas.
Council then received an official communication from the minister that Eng Zvobgo be suspended as he was the authority behind the connection of illegal housing co-operatives to Harare water.
The minister’s order comes a few weeks after councillors and council officials were fingered in shoddy dealings that involve the siphoning of $200 000 from Harare Municipality Medical Aid Society and the illegal setting up of housing co-operatives and illegal structures.

Woman Raped for A Loaf Of Bread

Bakers Inn White-600x450
A 53-year-old Bulawayo barber allegedly raped a mentally challenged woman and gave her a loaf of bread to buy her silence.
Bernard Muronza, of Thorngrove suburb, allegedly bought his 20-year-old victim a bottle of coke and a loaf of bread before raping her.
Muronza appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Tinashe Tashaya facing a rape charge.
He was not asked to plead and was remanded to January 20 on $50 bail.
Prosecuting, Nkathazo Dlodlo said on December 29 last year between 8amand 10am, the complainant left home intending to go for a haircut in Nguboyenja suburb.
“Unfortunately, the barber who does her hair was not available.
“She then proceeded to Burombo where there were other barber men operating under a tree. “Upon arrival at Burombo grounds, she approached Muronza and paid for the hair cut,” said Dlodlo.
The court heard that after the haircut, Muronza offered to buy her food at the shops.
Dlodlo said the woman refused but Muronza grabbed her arm and force marched her to Burombo tuckshop.
“Muronza, still holding her left arm, bought a loaf of bread and 300ml bottle of coke and took her to his place of residence in Thorngrove. He then locked the door before raping her once.
After the rape, the accused gave the complainant the loaf of bread and ordered her to go to her house, the court heard.
Dlodlo told the court that when she arrived home, the complainant reported the rape to her guardian who informed her mother. A report was made to police leading to Muronza’s arrest

Pasuwa Demands “Real Deal” from Chiyangwa

Pasuwa demands long contract from Chiyangwa
Pasuwa demands long contract from Chiyangwa

Warriors gaffer Kalisto Pasuwa is expected to finalise his contract deal within the next 48 hours is demanding a long-term contract, amid revelations that Zifa wants to give him the job basing on performance.
Pasuwa is on the verge of putting pen to paper after having worked for more than 12 months as Warriors head coach without a contract.
Both Zifa and Pasuwa’s manager Gibson Mahachi have confirmed negotiations between the two parties were going smoothly.
Pasuwa has been in and out of the job, especially during the Cuthbert Dube era because of non-payment of salaries and allowances. A similar scenario nearly recurred two weeks ago when the nation woke up to stunning news that the newly-appointed Zifa board led by businessman Phillip Chiyangwa had fired Pasuwa.
However, Chiyangwa moved with speed to reinstate Pasuwa after the Sport and Recreation minister Makhosini Hlongwane raised the red flag. Speaking on behalf of the Zifa board, Edzai Kasinauyo said after spme considerations they had decided to give Pasuwa a contract based on achieving success in major competitions, in this case looking at the 2017 Afcon qualifiers.
Mahachi yesterday admitted having received the offer from Zifa and said negotiations were going on smoothly, unlike before.
“We have received the offer from Zifa. After sitting down with my client, we highlighted areas that needed attention. We are in the process, but as I speak, we are almost through,” he said. What is left is for us to take back our counter offer to Zifa and wait to hear from them. But I can tell you, the contract issue will be finalised in the next two days.”
Pressed to reveal details of the negotiations, Mahachi only said the contract had been one of the major obstacles so far.
“After having worked for more than 13 months without a contract and with what he has achieved, I think Zifa should have confidence in my client such that they wouldn’t want to be so cruel as to give him a short contract,” he said. Pasuwa has proved to everyone that he can do the job. At least a contract with a minimum of two years will make all parties happy.”
Kasinauyo said Zifa was happy to give the coach a long-term deal.
“I think it will be very fair for us to do things that way,” he said. We have crafted the contract in such a way that Pasuwa majors with qualifying us to major tournaments, in this case the Afcon 2017. We cannot judge Pasuwa with the African Championship [Chan] finals that are just around the corner, no. He has to take us to Afcon 2017, period.”
He added: “The thing is as Zifa, we have made our offer to Pasuwa and everything has been sent to his manager who said he was still looking at the offer. We are just waiting for their counter offer.”
Meanwhile, Pasuwa has been dealt a heavy blow in his preparations for the Chan finals in Rwanda after skipper Danny “Deco” Phiri finally left camp to recover from a knee injury at home.
“Yes, I can confirm that Deco will not be part of the Chan squad. Doctors looked at him before we left for a short break. What they told me was that it will take time for the skipper to recover. It is indeed a sad development but we have to remain focused,” Pasuwa said.
Apart from Deco, Pasuwa also lost Tafadzwa Kutinyu and Hillary Bakacheza through injuries.
“This then means that we have lost three players. The doctor told them to stay at home after the break because all the three will not recover in time,” he said
During training yesterday, Pasuwa took to task every player that showed signs of fatigue due to the short break as the Warriors put final touches to their preparations for the Chan finals in Rwanda in two weeks time. -Standard

Soldiers, ZRP Cops Storm into Bulawayo

Heavy police presence in Bulawayo – soldiers “on standby”

An unusually large number of police officers and soldiers has been noted in the streets of Bulawayo this evening(Sunday).
Residents in the city report that there is an extremely unusual patrol by heavily armed police in anti riot gear around the city’s CBD and major townships.
Police vehicles carrying officers in anti riot gear here were noted early Sunday evening around Mzilikazi, Makokoba and Thorngroove areas. More vehicles were spotted later traveling along Luveve Road and areas around Pumula and Magwegwe high density suburbs.
By around 8pm the city’s CBD areas was reported clear as police officers intimidated people out of the city. Most bars and drinking places were reported to be closing early at the time of writing this as patrons made their way home earlier than usual following reports of heavy police presence around the city.
Some residents from Mahatshula area claims to have also noted an increased number of soldiers and heavy army artillery at Brady Barracks. One resident suggests that the soldiers could be on standby to compliment the police in their unusually heavy patrols in case there is need for reinforcement.
It was not clear why the police suddenly intensified their patrols in the city.
Some analysts however attributed the patrols to a social media message making quick runs around the country calling on all civil servants and other workers to stay away from their work places tomorrow.
Meanwhile, as at the time of this article, unconfirmed reports claimed that police have fired teargas canisters in the streets of Harare. The reports were still very sketchy and ZimEye correspondences are on their way to the scenes of the suspected teargas firing.
There is a generally tense atmosphere around the country following government’s failure to pay civil servants’ December salaries as scheduled. Doctors and nurses across the country are already reportedly on a mass labour action with most not reporting for duty today or on a go slow at their work stations.

Horror Hits Hospitals as Doctors Vow No Return

Zimbabwe’s hospitals have been hit by a wave of record deaths as doctors and nurses vowed they are not returning to work.
HEALTH CRISIS INTENSIFIES – PRESS STATEMENT By ZHDA and ZINA
As the nationwide campaign for bus fare and basic allowances intensifies the ZHDA and ZINA leaderships has called for the government to act to avoid the continued loss of life and suffering by ordinary patients. It has been noted that by end of day yesterday more than 90 percent of nurses and 80 percent of doctors have heed the call by ZHDA and ZINA. It has also been noted that the cases of martenal and neonatal mortality have also been on the increase since the first of January. The government has embarked on a shameless propaganda campaign to deliberately misinform the public that normalcy has prevailed at the country’s health institutions. The Sunday mail of 3 January 2016 in an act of desperation and violation of media ethics published a false article claiming that Mr Dongo the ZINA secretary general advising his members to go to work. The ZHDA and ZINA leaderships condemn this action by the Sunday mail and wholy dismiss the article as trivial, frivolous and vexatious. The state must instead solve the root causes of the problem than to deliberately misinform the public.
As we write this statement there are cases of nurses who have been evicted from their houses as a result of non payment of rentals. Some doctors have also been arrested for defaulting to pay maintenance as they have not been paid. The ZHDA has also received reports of a doctor who almost committed suicide this morning due to financial challenges and is currently recuperating at a local private hospital.
The ZHDA and ZINA executive committees continue to call their members not to report for duty until they receive their salaries. We maintain that doctors and nurses deserve to live in dignity and will not be swayed by the shameless propaganda being distributed by the Sunday Mail. Should there be no action by the government the ZHDA and ZINA leaderships call upon the few remaining health workers who had remained in the hospital to down tools from Monday 4 January 2016. We maintain that there is nowhere in the world where health workers work for free. Every Zimbabwean has the right to be paid for the services they will have rendered and any attempts to coerce health workers to work for free is tantamount to reintroducing slavery and this shall be ostensibly rejected.
No money, no free health workers.
Dr Fortune Nyamande( ZHDA president) and Mr E Dongo ( ZINA secretary general)

LATEST:Demolition of Airport Houses

Zanu PF political Commissar and Harare South legislator Shadreck Mashayamombe says he has stopped the Harare City Council from demolishing 5000 houses at Dunstan Farm along the Airport road.

Harare City Council had already started demolishing the settlement after President Robert Mugabe’s directive recently that settlement was an eyesore.
Mashayamombe said he had managed to convince Harare City Council to “immediately” halt the demolitions while “we” move the settlers to StoneRidge Farm which is in the same constituency.
“This is a rainy season and there are a lot of diseases associated with it and we have said can you wait and give us ample time to finish the relocation process which has begun in earnest and then you can come and demolish the structures which will however be empty structures,” said Mashayamombe.
He said the new settlement they have found for the “illegal” settlers accommodates 1600 households. “We have so far managed to relocate close to 1 500 families against a target of 2000 families and we have managed to provide proper surveyed stands to these families,” he said.
At the weekend ZimEye.com passed through the “illegal” settlement and found hundreds of families in the open.
“Our children and our properties are outside, and we have nowhere to go because they just came here and destroyed our houses,” said a middle aged woman.
“The MP (Mashayamombe) came here and promised us that he was going to give us alternative accommodation but never returned,” shouted another unidentified man.
Another woman said only a handful of settlers were taken to StoneRidge, “those who have been relocated are made to share one stand imagine three families sharing one stand,” she said.
“We do not know if its proper healthwise to be settled where there is no water and no toilets,” another woman voiced out.

Mahofa Still In Mysterious Coma

Masvingo Minister Shuvai Mahofa is still in a mysterious coma after her hospitalisation just after the ZANU PF conference in December.
Mahofa (74) is currently in secret confinement at a private hospital in Harare, over an mysterious ailment which some ZANU PF sources say is of food poisoning at the party’s Victoria Falls conference.
Beyond those claims however, she has lately been visibly struggling to officiate at State functions due to old age and ill health.
A picture of her revealed by ZimEye.com taken last year (with her grandchildren) shows her body ballooning in weight.

Last year in July, Mahofa demanded that her Benjamin Burombo House office in Masvingo be moved from the second floor to the ground floor because she was having trouble climbing the steep stairs.
In August this year, she failed to lay wreaths on graves of provincial heroes in Masvingo and declined an invitation to deliver her speech at the podium.
“She is still to recover I will let you know if the situation changes,” a top source close to her told ZimEye.com while refusing to disclose the exact diagnosis conducted on her.

Mliswa to Youths: Fight All Govt Abductions

fight all government abductions....Mliswa
fight all government abductions….Mliswa

The leader of the Youth Advocacy for Reform and Democracy organisation, Temba Mliswa has told the youth that they should fight all government abductions.
In his new year message the former ZANU PF strongman said that the abduction of Itai Dzamara must not be repeated and youths have the power to block them. His statement came as two YARD activists Obert Masaraure and Pride Mukono were attacked by police officers in Harare – CLICK HERE TO READ MORE.
Beginning his speech (below), Mliswa said 2016 will be a year of determining factors.
Below was his full message:
I greet you in the spirit of 2016 and trust that we all crossed over with Grace.
“There is nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come”… Victor Hugo.
2015 indeed marked a year of many changes and tumultuous experiences for me. I lost my Chairmanship of Mashonaland West Province, was expelled from ZANU PF and further lost my seat as an MP for Hurungwe West, all in a short space of time. However little did I know that the Lord was not finished with me yet and had a greater plan for my life and destiny!
I became a tool for growth and direction to the youth through the Youth Advocacy for Reform & Democracy (YARD) where I now impart my experiences and knowledge to mobilise the youth to make a better tomorrow for themselves through active participation and representation in local and national elective offices and to be a determining factor in the political landscape.
This is not about me, it is beyond that, as you, the youth discover that you are the driving force of the future and can make Zimbabwe into a powerhouse. Our most strongest resource is human and Zimbabwe is blessed with intellectual human resources. However this intellect is nothing without courage and you must be courageous to make a peaceful stand with the country’s constitution as your guiding principle, mapping your processes and procedures as you become the drivers of your own destiny.
We need to see an change in the mindset and operations of the executive, judiciary and legislative arms of this country. You are the millenials and it is time to occupy your space. I cannot regret my experiences as I know they were for a greater plan and Holy Spirit driven and I am grateful for the energy that God has bestowed upon me.
Democracy is key in restoring the credibility and leadership in our country. There is nothing wrong with the centre of power if it follows and is guided by the constitution and that they maintain the mandate from the people. The Itai Dzamara abduction could happen to anyone and ours is to ensure a democratic and more secure Zimbabwe for our children and their children’s children for generations to come. Today, whilst others celebrate a family has no father, has lost a bread winner and knows not of where or why?
The gains and sacrifices of the gallant sons and daughters of the liberation struggle are fast being eroded and it is imperative that we uphold that legacy and cherish its impact upon our lives today.
Let our structures be sound and let us perform our YARDly duties with zeal and professionalism. We are the emerging force leading now as we pray for Divine direction and guidance. I am pleased with the healthy debate engaged in through our What’sApp chat groups and trust that this spills over to our various other social media platforms to encourage wider participation and interest in YARD. The discussion regarding registration as voters is extremely important and something I hope will not end through verbal intercourse but will lead to the practical implementation as we ensure registration in our numbers…are you registered?
YARD must be the conduit through which imbalances are corrected that come 2018 we achieve our 40% youth representation and that a credible, free and fair voting process is realised.
Let us continue to make inroads and ensure our visibility. There was a very good article in the Daily News of yesterday, 31st December 2015 on page 7 and a further one, today, 1st January 2016 on page 5 and this should be emulated going forward.
If I have been harsh with you it is because I want the best for you so that you do not let your generation down. We are not political party but parties must embrace you failure of which will necessitate that we reconvene for a way forward.
2016 will be a year of determining factors and I am forever grateful for the inspiration and motivation projected in YARD and I look forward to us resolutely walking the road of 2016 in unity and progress and above all in tolerance. Happy New Year to you all and may God continue to Bless and protect us all.

Fake Zim Docs Hit South Africa

Staff Reporter, Johannesburg | Zimbabweans living in South Africa are presenting a varied range of fake IDs that have hit the country.
Fake documents ranging from the so said “hard to dodge” Zimbabwean passport, to affidavits, and birth certificates, are being cooked in the streets of Hillbrow predominately by Nigerian nationals.
In a shock revelation, ZimEye.com met up with a Mozambican national in possession of a tampered with Zimbabwean passport displaying a special dispensation SA work permit. The passport looked so genuine that only Zimbabwean immigration officials could realise that is has been tempered with.
The Mozambican claimed that he bought the passport from named Nigerians in Hillbrow who use their information technology skills to remove the face of the original owner and embed a picture of the person buying the document.
On further survey, ZimEye.com discovered that most Zimbabwean drivers in South Africa are using fake Zimbabwean International Driver’s Licences. The documents are also being manufactured at various internet caffes’ run by Nigerians in Hillbrow. So obviously faked is the document that anyone who knows the original will not need an expert to pick the fraud up. A genuine international driver’s licence is issued in Zimbabwe by the Automobile Association of Zimbabwe.
The genuine licence is in the form of a small white booklet with a watermarked cover. The fake ones produced in Hillbrow come in different forms with some produced in laminated credit card size cards some in green and branding a Central Vehicle Registry Harare stamp.
At Beitbridge several cross border transporters were seen selling ready signed and stamped blank affidavits from various police stations in Harare and Bulawayo. The affidavits are a prerequisite for a single parent travelling with a minor from the other parent authorising them to cross the border with the minor.
A Nigerian national-run business shop in Hillbrow is also making a killing producing Zimbabwean Police Clearance Certificates which people use when applying for Residence Permits in the rich Southern African country. The clearance certificates bear a fake Harare Central Police station stamp.
Abridged Zimbabwean birth certificates are also being produced in the highly criminal streets of Hillbrow. The hand written birth certificates look so original that it is hard to detect the difference.
Copies of Zimbabwean child birth records and even death certificates were seen lying idle on the desk of the so called business documents producer along the busy “Claim Street” in the heart of Hillbrow. South African asylum seekers permits and South African identity documents are also part of the fake documents Zimbabweans are buying from the Nigerians in order to stay in South Africa.
A Zimbabwean national who was interviewed by ZimEye.com said that they could not avoid getting the fake documents from the Nigerians in Hillbrow as the processes of attaining them back home are too tedious and expensive.

Harare Destroys Snooker Fun Spots

Harare City Council has embarked on an exercise to confiscate eighth-ball pool tables that are placed at most bus termini and shopping centres.
Yesterday morning, the City Council conducted a raid at Simon Muzenda Bus Terminus (Formerly Fourth Street bus terminus) and confiscated some snooker tables.
The City’s corporate communications manager, Mr Michael Chideme said the exercise is part of measures to restore sanity in the city.
“It is an ongoing exercise to rid the city of illegal activities in such places. The pool tables that were at the Fourth Street bus terminus were illegal because there were not at approved areas and the owners are not paying anything to the City Council,” he said.
“It is a sustained programme that we are carrying out across the city as we respond to our vision of attaining a world class city by 2025.”
Of late, snooker tables have been sprouting across the city, especially at bus termini, illegal tuck shops, bars and shebeens in most residential areas.
According to the Urban Council Act Section 18(2) of the Urban Councils (Model) (Use and Occupation of land and buildings by laws statutory instrument 109/1979), snooker tables at undesignated sites are illegal structures and local authorities can confiscate them.
Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA) Chief executive officer, Mr Mfundo Mlilo said there is need for the council to find strategies that will be bring lasting solutions to the challenge of illegal structures.
“We support the idea of restoring order and sanity in the city by the council but there are chances that these pool tables will be back on the streets sooner than we think,” he said.
“Look at what happened with the vendors, the council fought with them without thinking of a sustainable strategy.
“Council should ask if this is an economic problem or people are simply trying to entertain them themselves.
“This will help them in planning and solving the problem in the long run.”
Last year, Harare City Council embarked on an exercise to remove illegal vendors who had invaded pavements, street islands, intersections and car parks in the CBD in search of lucrative business.
Designated areas outside the CBD were set for them.
However, the vendors are back on the streets.-State Media

Desmond Tutu’s Gay Lass Weds

Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu’s daughter, Reverend Mpho Tutu who is a lesbian got married on Wednesday.
Her lesbian marriage stands in stark contrast to her Tutu parents, who recently renewed their wedding vows on the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary.
Mpho Tutu exchanged vows in a small private ceremony, with her longtime partner Professor Marceline Furth in Oegstgeest a town and municipality in the province of South Holland in western Netherlands.
Their wedding will be celebrated in Cape Town in May.
Furth is a professor in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the Vrije University in Amsterdam and Tutu is currently the executive director of the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation, and holds the Desmond Tutu Chair in Medicine at the university.
This is the second marriage for both.
Canon Tutu, the youngest daughter of Desmond and Leah Tutu, was married to Joseph Burris. They had two daughters, Nyaniso and Onalenna. She and her then husband lived in Virginia.
She is an ordained Episcopal priest and also the executive director and founder of the Tutu Institute for Prayer and Pilgrimage, Chairperson Emeritus of the board of the Global AIDS Alliance, Chairperson of the Board of Advisors of the 911 Unity Walk, and a Trustee of Angola University.
Anglican Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu – fondly dubbed the Arch – and his wife Leah celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary by renewing their vows at St. George’s Cathedral in Cape Town.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who led a decades-long fight against racial discrimination in South Africa, says the oppression of gay people around the world is the “new Apartheid.”
Tutu says he will never worship a “homophobic God” and will rather go to hell.
The retired archbishop was speaking at the launch of a UN-backed campaign in South Africa to promote gay rights.
“I would refuse to go to a homophobic heaven. No, I would say sorry, I mean I would much rather go to the other place,” Archbishop Tutu said at the launch of the Free and Equal campaign in Cape Town.
“I would not worship a God who is homophobic and that is how deeply I feel about this.”
Archbishop Tutu said the campaign against homophobia was similar to the campaign waged against racism in South Africa.
“I am as passionate about this campaign as I ever was about apartheid. For me, it is at the same level,” he added.

ZRP Cops Attack YARD Youths

PRESS STATEMENT FROM YOUTH ADVOCACY FOR REFORM & DEMOCRACY (YARD)
29 December 2015

Youth Advocacy for Reform & Democracy roundly condemns the recent unlawful and wanton incarceration and barbaric assault by members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police of Obert Masaraure, Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (RTUZ) President and YARD National Committee Member for Information and Publicity and the inhumane treatment and torture suffered by Pride Mukono, RTUZ Programmes Officer.
We stand in solidarity with the thousands of teachers and civil servants who have been indiscriminately robbed of their pittance deemed salaries and bonuses and the opportunity to enjoy their festive season and indeed to indulge in the bare necessities of life.
We keenly await the judgement in this matter and our prayer is that the Judiciary will finally show its teeth in dealing with issues of this nature and in line with the constitution pertaining to freedom of expression.
It is indeed another sad, dark day in Zimbabwe where the masses suffer and bear the brunt of another’s heartlessness and inconsideration. We abhor such violent practices perpetrated by the police and the withholding of people’s hard earned salaries and lawfully due bonuses. The ruling party and Government must be accountable and speedily intervene to avert this crisis rather than waste their time senselessly fighting each other, they must instead channel their energies to the people who put them into these positions of power. We urge Vice President Mphoko to comment on the delayed salaries and bonuses debacle instead of basking in his four (4) million United States dollar home after a year of squandering hundreds of thousands of dollars residing in a hotel for the past year. Imagine the number of households that that money could have made a difference to…..?

Zimbabwe Runs Out Of Maize

  • Serious “Security Matter”.
  • Harare starved Matabeleland by refusing maize imports from South America.

Zimbabwe’s has run out of maize with Matabeleland grinding to a halt this weekend.
Information leaked to ZimEye.com reveal the last 7 days were the end of the entire Matabeleland’s remaining stock.
Despite attempts by ZANU PF to conceal the embarrassing information, ZimEye.com can reveal the nation has been thrown into a crisis. A letter written to the Minister of Agriculture by Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe Chair Mr T Ndhlovu, copied to the presidium and the rest of ZANU PF’s heirarchy, states that this is now a “Security Matter”.
“Pursuant to several submissions submitted by our Chairman, Mr. Tafadzwa Musarara, concerning the urgent need to open all fronts to import maize from anywhere in the world, we write to advise that the maize situation in Matabeleland provinces is now dire and degenerating into a security matter,” part of the letter reads.
It continues, “I regret to advise you that maize supplies for commercial milling in Bulawayo currently stand at one-week supply and the situation will deteriorate to no supply level very soon. Our chapter is deeply disappointed by your ministry decision to decline application of maize imports from South Africa and South America for the milling of maize meal and livestock feeds.
“We are at loss as to why you are declining to issue permits for maize from these above-mentioned countries. Zambia has put an export ban of Food Reserve Agency maize. This has affected this region badly and this is very unfair to the businesses and people of Matabeleland. Food is a constitutional right and we are entitled to demand, as we hereby do, for your office to start, forthwith, to issue permits to all grain traders which are mentioned in the maize importation action plan submitted to you by our national office. However, if we fail to get your cooperation in this regard we will have no option but to seek the intervention of courts to compel your office to do the same.”

“Spiritual Fathers” Supported by The Bible?

Are “Spiritual Fathers” Supported by The New Testament?

By Kato Mivule

One of the popular teachings today in Evangelical circles is that of “Spiritual Fathers”, individuals who are supposed to act as mentors, guides, and accountability partners between a Christian and Jesus Christ. Often success, prosperity, fame, blessings, and attaining “the anointing” are tied to this mentor, a.k.a. Spiritual Father, without whom, the believer cannot attain the full blessings of God.
This teaching has become popular due to the trend that Christians today have in the pursuit of monetary success and prosperity. The teaching is also tied to the “Breaking the Curse” teaching, in that believers who don’t have a “Spiritual Father” often “suffer” the prolonged consequences of curses and lack of monetary success and prosperity.
However, the question that critical thinking Christians must ask themselves before submitting to one of the “Spiritual Fathers”, is this teaching biblical, is it supported anywhere in the New Testament? What did Jesus Christ say about “Spiritual Fathers”?
The New Testament does not at any time support the teaching on Spirituals Fathers. The word “Spiritual Father” is not found anywhere in the New Testament. Just like many other extra biblical teachings, the proponents of “Spiritual Father” often take one or two scriptures in the New Testament out of context and then build on that with heavy out of context reliance on the Old Testament as their back up.
Matthew 23:8-10 (NKJV)
8 But you, do not be called ‘Rabbi’; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren. 9 Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. 10 And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ.
Jesus Christ was very clear that we do not call anyone ‘father’ here on earth as we have one Heavenly Father, our Heavenly Spiritual Father, God Creator of Heaven and Earth. The New Testament uses Father in reference to God in Heaven and He is the only one who has authorized blessing for us believers through Jesus Christ, by Grace and not works. No “Spiritual Father” on earth or inside your Church can grant you any blessing, none…
Ephesians 1:2-4(NKJV)
2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love,
On the contrary, The New Testament does support Christian Church Leadership and that must not be confused with “Spiritual Fathers”. Yes, the New Testament speaks about leaders in the Church, Paul the Apostle appointed various leaders in the Churches he opened. However, never did he refer to them as “Spiritual Fathers”. Never did Paul state that blessings and success come from “Spiritual Fathers”.
The concept of “Spiritual Fathers” is used by some for control, manipulation, and monetary gain, driven largely by a Christian’s fear of being “cursed”. The more people who call some individual a “Spiritual Father”, the more that “Spiritual Father” can gain in terms of influence.
When it comes to “Receiving the Anointing”, there is no New Testament backing for such teachings and a Christian does not need a “Spiritual Father” to be anointed. As a matter of fact John the apostle tells us that we are all anointed by the Holy Spirit as Christians after we receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
1 John 2(NKJV)
26 These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you. 27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.
The anointing you received from The Holy Spirit is able to teach you all things, that is to say, The Holy Spirit should guide you through God’s Word and your mentor should be Jesus Christ and not a Man who will fail you the next day. The Teaching on “Spiritual Fathers” is about placing a level of trust in a human being but that is disastrous to your spiritual faith as you will discover that humans fail and therefore your true mentor should be Jesus Christ and what He taught and said.
Nowhere does it say in the New Testament that you receive an anointing from your “Spiritual Father”. Yes, we do have Church leaders and their duty is to guide you in your PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP with Jesus Christ so that you receive directly from The Lord and relate with Him personally, not to serve as intermediaries between you and Jesus Christ.
The most misquoted verse by the proponents of the “Spiritual Fathers” teachings is 1 Corinthians 4:15-16 in which Paul tells the Christians in Corinth that they may have many instructors but not many fathers …
1 Corinthians 4:15 (NKJV)
15 For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. 16 Therefore I urge you, imitate me.
Paul was not trying to act as an intermediary between Christians and Jesus Christ, he was not telling them to emulate to him per say, but rather that they should submit to Jesus Christ just as Paul had submitted to Jesus Christ. It is reason that Paul used the phrase, “imitate me”. Many proponents of the “Spiritual Fathers” teaching stop there but in 1 Corinthians 11: 1, Paul completes that phrase, “imitate me as I imitate Christ”.
1 Corinthians 11(NKJV)
1 Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.
The teaching on “Spiritual Fathers” is not found anywhere in the New Testament and contradicts the Teachings of Jesus Christ on that subject. You don’t need a “Spiritual Father” to be anointed and blessed. Our Heavenly Father has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in Jesus Christ and anointed us by The Holy Spirit with an anointing that abides with us. Cultivate your personal relationship with Jesus Christ and have no spiritual intermediaries, let Jesus Christ and His Words be your Mentor, and let God of Heaven be your Spiritual Father.
God Bless You.

Are we giving fellow humans God’s glory?

– Moses Mulondo explores the concept of spiritual fathers –
LAST month, I attended a pastor’s conference at Zion Wakening Centre in Bweyogerere, where a Pentecostal bishop from Kenya told believers that those who wished to be successful in church ministry should have both a vision and a spiritual father. One of the participants opposed him, citing St Paul who never had a spiritual father nor any spiritual leader who taught him salvation, yet became one of the greatest apostles.
The pastor was referring to Galatians 1:11-17 where Paul says: “I want you to know, brothers the Gospel I preached is not something that man made up. I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.” Pastor Martin Ssempa also opposes the doctrine of calling fellow believers spiritual fathers. “This question needs to be resolved once and for all. There are many people calling themselves our spiritual fathers but let it be known that our one and only spiritual father is God the creator of heaven and earth,” Ssempa argues. The teaching of spiritual fathers has, for long, been emphasised in the Catholic Church more than in any other denomination, as evident in the head of the Catholic Church — the Pope, called the Holy Father.
The Pentecostal church, which started at the beginning of the 20th Century, never classified Jesus’s followers into fathers and children or sons and daughters. They believed that all believers related as equal brothers and sisters working together. They carried the notion that calling some spiritual fathers created inequality in the Church. But today, they teach the importance of having spiritual fathers.

Former Tsvangirai MP Arrested Over Debt

By Terrence Mawawa Masvingo
Former MDC Member of The House of Assembly for Chiredzi West Moses Mare has been arrested over failure to settle a furniture debt.
Mare who left the MDC’s early last year to join Tendai Biti’s PDP purchased a four piece Bali Lounge suit and a Univa stove on credit at a local shop in 2013 and has been defaulting on the monthly instalments such that the interest ballooned to $ 2815 .The court summons also indicate Mare has to pay an additional interest of 60% for defaulting on the instalments.
The former Tsvangirai frontman was also ordered to settle the amount in a period of seven days from December 18, according to summons seen by ZimEye.com.
Mare is now expected to appear in court since there are no indications he will settle the debt ,according to court records.
It has emerged former legislators who dumped Tsvangirai for Biti have fallen on hard times and some have been begging the former premier for a comeback while some are jostling for posts in Mujuru’s People First.
The embattled Mare who won resoundingly in the 2008 parliamentary contest for Chiredzi West reportedly approached the MDC leadership in Chiredzi seeking a comeback .
Mare also stands accused of blowing the Constituency Development Fund during his term as MP with the Chiredzi electorate blaming him for spending the money on luxury.
Millions of Zimbabweans have been taken for granted by politicians who canvass for support only to satisfy personal desires at the expense of the suffering people.

Teenagers Steal A Gun

Two teenagers from Gweru who broke into two  houses in Daylesford and Senga surbubs where they stole R25, $255, a pistol and goods worth over $1,200 have been arrested.
Prince Mhenyu, 17, and Blessing Nowake, 19, both of no fixed abode appeared on initial remand before Gweru Magistrate Judith Taruvinga facing charges of unlawful entry and theft.
They were not asked to plead and were remanded in custody to January 8 for trial.
Prosecuting, Daniel Tafuma told the court that between December 25 and December 28 Mhenyu and Nowake went to a house along Dudley road in Daylesford, Gweru.
They broke into the house by forcing a locked door open using an unknown object.

Tafuma said the duo then stole a Lama pistol, R25, $255 and a duvet and ran away.
“Again, on December 28 around midnight Mhenyu and Nowake proceeded to a house in Nehosho Suburb in Senga and used duplicate keys to gain entry,” he said.
“Whilst inside, they stole a home theatre, DVD player, a desktop monitor and keyboard, a brown monarch bag and seven dinner plates and went away.”
The court heard that the duo was arrested the following day at around 5PM, and was found in possession of some of the stolen property.
The police found them with evidence that indicated they committed the offences. The duplicate keys they used to open the door and $300 worth of goods were recovered. –  state media

Smallhouse Demands $500 Child Maintenance

A woman from Bulawayo dragged her married lover to the Maintenance Court demanding $500.
She argued and pointed out that he used to give her $1,500 per month when times were good and before she became pregnant.
Brian Moyo pleaded with his girlfriend Yvonne Mabhena to accept his offer of $100 in child support.
Moyo told magistrate Sheunesu Matova that he could no longer afford to give his girlfriend a luxurious life.
“My business is low now and my wife lost her job. I can no longer afford to provide for my own family because my income has changed,” he said.
Mabhena refused to accept Moyo’s offer alleging that he was no longer interested in her because she now had a child with him.

“He no longer cares for me because I’ve a child with him. He now has other girlfriends. I know he can afford to give me $500 a month because he used to give me about $300 weekly when we used to date,” she said.
Mabhena told the court that she could not prove Moyo’s income as he sells cars and spare parts.
She said he had no office and worked through communicating on the phone.
She told the court that he was able to pay the maintenance saying his children were attending fancy schools and the wife was employed.
Magistrate Matova ordered Moyo to pay $200 towards the upkeep of his two month old daughter. – state media

Ghana:Minister Quits Job Over Electricity Failure

By Reuters – ACCRA: Ghana’s power minister has resigned after failing to resolve a three-year-old electricity crisis that President John Mahama, who seeks re-election this year, had promised to fix, government sources said on Friday.

Minister Kwabena Donkor
Minister Kwabena Donkor

Power Minister Kwabena Donkor told voters in February he would would resign if the crisis was not resolved by Dec. 31.
“The president was unhappy with his performance, particularly in handling the crisis. He has accepted the resignation and thanked him for his service,” one of the sources said.
President Mahama will contest what is expected to be a close-run vote in November against opposition leader Nana Akufo-Addo.
The power crisis began in the 2012 election year and the opposition New Patriotic Party says it is a sign of government mismanagement. Ghana was one of Africa’s top economies but growth based on exports of gold, cocoa and oil has slowed sharply due to lower global commodities prices.
At the same time, the government is following an International Monetary Fund loan programme to restore fiscal stability.
“The biggest problem the government has is lack of credibility so trust and empathy are the next to go,” NPP policy advisor Boakye Agyarko told Reuters..
The Ministry of Power was created in 2014 to fix the blackouts. Donkor, its first head, submitted his resignation on Thursday, a source close to the presidency told Reuters.
A day earlier, he had said planned power cuts were over due to increased capacity the government installed in 2015.
His statement appeared to be an attempt to show that the government was upholding its promise but it was soon contradicted by another state institution that said power capacity, while improved, remained inadequate to meet demand.
“The president wants to ensure that people entrusted with responsibility deliver and Donkor is no exception,” another government source said, adding that Mahama would have dismissed the minister if he had not resigned. Attempts to contact Donkor were not successful.
The key issue is voter confidence in the president’s ability to keep his promises, John Gatsi, a senior lecturer in the business school at the University of Cape Coast, told Reuters.
Voters “want to see the president exerting his authority and all his appointees showing due respect,” he said.
In a national address on New Year’s Eve, Mahama said he would ensure appointees uphold their promises to citizens.
“Those who fall short of that commitment have been, and will continue to be, asked to tender their resignations,” he said. The Transport Minister Dzifa Attivor stepped down last week over a spending scandal.

Valentine Mayekiso, from Erdington, gave birth to little Nathan at 12.22am on New Year’s Day.
The tot came into the world at Sutton Coldfield’s Good Hope Hospital weighing 3.11kg after Valentine went into labour at 9am on New Year’s Eve.
Valentine, 26, is orginally from Zimbabwe and said she hoped Nathan, her first child, would embrace different cultures as he grew up.
The proud mum said: “It took so long that I wasn’t thinking about having the one of the first babies of the New Year – I just wanted him to arrive as it was taking forever.
“At one point I felt like giving up because I was tired and hungry but the staff were amazing, they really took care of me.
“The doctors and midwives were very encouraging.”
Valentine lives with her South African husband Thembela.
She is a qualified accountant but plans to spend time at home with her new arrival before possibly going back to work two or three days a week.
She attends the Power of the Word Ministries in Birmingham and hopes Nathan will adopt good Christian values while also learning about other cultures.
“I want him to grow up and achieve his dreams and be a good person,” she said.
“For me, as a Christian, I would like my child to go to church with me.
“At our church we are from different cultures but we are all one.
“I would also like him to travel and experience different cultures, and to come home having learnt something.
“I want him to get the best out of life.” – Birmingham Mail.

Mugabe Inclusive Govt The Only Way – Pastor Mugadza

Pastor Patrick Mugadza, who staged a one-man demonstration against President Robert Mugabe at the annual ruling Zanu-PF party conference held recently in the resort town of Victoria Falls says the president should form an all-inclusive government that has technocrats to turn around Zimbabwe’s hemorrhaging economy.

Mugadza of The Remnant Church was arrested on 11 December, brought to court, fined and then freed on Thursday after Victoria Falls magistrate Lindiwe Maphosa agreed a variation of his bail from $500 to $50.
He is charged with contravening Section 46 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23 for allegedly demonstrating against the president.
State prosecutor, Listen Nare, alleged that Mugadza, who resides in Kariba, Mashonaland West province also disturbed the movement of Zanu-PF party supporters who were on their way to the conference.
Mugadza carried a banner written, “Mr. President. The people are suffering. Proverbs Chapter 21 verse 13.” The verse says, “Whoever refuses to hear the cry of the poor will also cry himself, but he won’t be answered.
Pastor Mugadza was represented by lawyer Thulani Mugadza, a member lawyer of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights.
His trial is scheduled for January 5th in Victoria Falls, Matabeleland North province. Pastor Mugadza told VOA Studio 7 that the country’s worsening economic crisis inspired him to protest and he does not fear abduction and disappearance like human rights activist Itai Dzamara.
Dzamara, a prominent critic of Mr Mugabe’s government was on the 9th of March 2015 forced into an unmarked vehicle in Harare and has not been heard from since.-VOA

Natalie Cole Dies

Dead. Dead at 65... Natalie Cole

Dead at 65… Natalie Cole

Grammy award-winning singer Natalie Cole, the daughter of jazz legend Nat King Cole, is dead at the age of 65.
Cole died Thursday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles from “ongoing health issues,” according to a family statement. The statement said Cole “fought a fierce, courageous battle, dying how she lived — with dignity, strength and honor.”
In quoting her most identifiable song, the family also said, “Our beloved mother and sister will be greatly missed and remain UNFORGETTABLE in our hearts forever,” putting the name of the song in capital letters.
Celebrity gossip website TMZ said Cole died from congestive heart failure, but that it had been told the underlying medical issues were complications from a kidney transplant and hepatitis C. Cole had struggled with drug and alcohol problems in the past and underwent a kidney transplant in 2009.
‘Unforgettable’ career
Natalie Cole began her career as an R&B singer and had hits that included the Grammy-winning song, “This Will Be.”
Cole’s career, however, reached superstar status when she recorded the 1991 album, Unforgettable…With Love, which paid tribute to her father, who died in 1965. The album included reworked versions of some of his best-known songs. The title song, “Unforgettable,” featured Natalie Cole’s voice spliced with her father’s. Engineers used technology that was considered cutting edge at the time to make it appear as if father and daughter were singing a duet.
The song was a hit for Nat King Cole in 1951. The song and the album garnered several Grammy awards for Natalie Cole. In addition to R&B, Natalie Cole delved into pop and jazz music. Other hits included “Our Love” and the reworked “Pink Cadillac,” a song originally by Bruce Springsteen.
Civil rights leader Jesse Jackson was among those paying tribute to Natalie Cole.
In a tweet, he described her as a “sister beloved … of substance and sound. May her soul rest in peace.” VOA

Mujuru’s Thick Smell of Crocs and Cocks

By Prof Masiyiwa Snr| Joice Mujuru has been caught smelling of both crocs and cocks and that stench has not left her despite her savoury association with democratic forces. READ ON…

"innocent"? ... Joice Mujuru
“smelling of croc and cock…Joice Mujuru” … Joice Mujuru

Her former boss Robert Mugabe joined politics in 1960 under NDP. 55 solid years living with Mugabe and aiding him in his desire to stay glued to the throne until kingdom come, a certain group of people have come out guns blazing as opposition demanding space “immediately or we will give Mugabe legitimacy in 2018”.
They have, infact denied association with Mugabe and his party’s system in all the bad deeds, but however accepted association with him in good deeds.
If anything, Didymus Mutasa, Jabulani Sibanda, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti, Rugare Gumbo and Joice Mujuru’s cases must be a reminder to anyone, including those still in ZanuPF, that political violence is bad and should never be tolerated.
During the just ended year, these ZanuPF leaders and a few supporters, some of who had become dormant and mute after the 2008 election horrors, began to raise their heads, happily parading their political allegiance to ZanuPF before their one man Vic Falls congress. Believing that time had erased the horrific images of their party’s conduct in 2008 and those of 2013, and after failing to get the required attention and positions in ZanuPF, some became too vocal, claiming to be opposition “democratic” figures fronting what they called People First Movement.
Others, who previously wore MDC colours and even claimed political protection in foreign lands on the basis of alleged persecution by ZanuPF, have begun coming out and making all sorts of noises in the Diaspora, telling MDC supporters and the nation at large to get over the 2008 violence and other evil deeds pepertuated by ZanuPF which they have been part of, saying that it’s all in the past and that people must just forget about it and move on. They, infact, demanded that the opposition rally behind them as they seek to democratise Zimbabwe, defining themselves as “tried and tested” leaders, who must exercise their abilities in opposition politics ahead of the MDC and other opposition political parties.
We have argued in response, that a country does not move on if it buries its head in the sand and pretends that such things as the Gukurahundi genocide and 2008 re-run massacres did not happen, because as sure as the sun rises every morning, state-backed violence would happen again and again.
Now, the chicken began eating its own eggs. The leopard started eating its own children, saying in justification, that they smell like goats. They painfully fell off and are now at the mercy of ZanuPF, seeking sympathy from opposition circles.
Should the opposition, formerly at the end of such treatment be celebrating? No. The natural instinct is to say, you deserve it. But all that ever does is perpetuate the cycle. It has to stop somewhere. We have to bring the former ZanuPF, or PF to the negotiating table, but definitely not on their conditons. The conditions have to be set by a “combined opposition” that encompass four MDC formations and other parties in the opposition. Definitely not on the so called PF’s conditions.

ZRP chase Kills Pedestrian

police zrp zrp
By Terrence Mawawa, Gutu | A high speed chase involving the police and a Toyota Ipsum vehicle resulted in the death of a pedestrian yesterday.
According to eyewitnesses the incident happened around 8 am near Buhera turnoff 3km from Mupandawana town when the police forcibly stopped the Toyota Ipsum driver demanding a bribe but the driver sped off at high speed with the cops in pursuit.
During the melee the pedestrian, a member of the Vapostori sect, was knocked down and died on the spot.
High speed chases involving the police and motorists have been repeatedly fatal in the past few months and the police been blamed for concentrating on bribes instead of executing their duties. The bribe demands have also increased during the festive season with police sources saying the officers are not happy following their failure to get bonuses.
Although Masvingo Police spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula was not readily available for a comment, officers in Gutu confirmed the incident but would not release the name of the deceased saying their next of kin were yet to be informed.
Gutu police claimed the Toyota Ipsum driver did not observe the stop sign at the roadblock and the officers manning the place had to forcibly stop him.
But eyewitnesses maintained the police reacted in an overzealous manner leading to the death of the pedestrian. One eyewitness said “the police are too ambitious. They wanted a bribe from the driver who immediately sped off and hit the Vapositori member. There is need to avoid loss of life because these high speed chases are always fatal.”
Drivers brandishing Zanu PF regalia have been exempted from paying such bribes as the police also continue to execute their duties in a partisan manner.
One driver told ZimEye.com the only way to avoid police trouble was to wear Zanu PF colours.

Mujuru Special 2016 Message

joice mujuru mother
NEW YEAR MESSAGE FROM MAI MUJURU
MY FELLOW CITIZENS, COUNTRYMEN AND FRIENDS,
As we come to the end of 2015, an eventful year politically, we wish to thank the Almighty for seeing us through. We wish to commend our law abiding and peace loving citizens. As a nation, we are confronted by a sluggish and dying economy, lack of democratic space and plenty of poverty on the majority of our people, which is a result of a corrupt political leadership without focus on the well being of the people. We should realise that without an understanding and a commitment by the country’s leadership to BUILD a vibrant economy for the benefit of our people, we are doomed. The liberation struggle was about the restoration of self-determination, self-dignity and self-pride which we had been denied by the minority settler regime.
We have a situation where in order to survive, everyone is a vendor, but there are no buyers, because the workers (buyers) have either been laid off or not paid for months, resulting in a lack of currency in circulation. We see people rendered homeless in this rainy season due to demolitions by the corrupt authorities or well-connected and corrupt individuals. The erection of structures now deemed illegal was sanctioned by either the responsible authorities or well connected individuals. The issue is that at some stage it was politically expedient to allow the structures to go up or outright corruption at play. The end loser and sufferer is the ordinary man, woman and child.
Is there hope in the future?
Constitutionalism
In a constitutional democracy, the ordinary man and woman have the ultimate weapon of freedom of association and expression. This manifests itself in a political call for action and change to address the adverse economic and social conditions. In a constitutional democracy, no person would feel threatened or risk personal harm, as these are constitutionally enshrined rights. In a constitutional democracy, there is a clear separation of the Party and the State for the benefit of all citizens, as non-Party members are not prejudiced, targeted or victimised on political grounds. Where there is rule of law, all the people who authorised the erection of illegal structures, which are now being demolished, would be brought to book. Women, Youths, Children and the Disabled are the hardest hit by these adverse conditions. We should embrace, reflect and uphold the letter and spirit of our State Constitution in our various statutes.
Economy
Faced with an imminent drought season, and a political management team without focus, there is no credit finance, irrigation infrastructure, or marketing mechanisms to mitigate the agricultural challenges that lie ahead. The investment environment is crowded by multiple incoherent policies, inadequate and unaffordable credit finance and an urgent need to reform a parasitic, non-performing parastatal sector. This has given rise to economic decay and ghost city status to once thriving commercial and industrial hubs like Bulawayo, Gweru, Harare, Masvingo, Mutare and other towns across the country. We should adopt investor friendly and market driven policies to curb corruption and stimulate economic activity.
Inadequate and dilapidated infrastructure.
We have to urgently create a conducive environment for investment whilst highlighting opportunities presented by our challenges. There is a huge investment potential from our severe energy shortfall. There are opportunities in both new and renewable energy sectors. Our dilapidated rail and road networks, inadequate water supplies and poor sanitation in our cities, towns and rural centers also present other investment opportunities. We should encourage and build on the healthy competition emerging in the telecoms sector, without stifling this with crude State participation, other than as a regulator for the common good.
International Relations and National Security
No man is an island, therefore Zimbabwe cannot run away from the fact that it is a sovereign State, that is part of a global village, with responsibilities to its people and the world at large. We should therefore engage all, East and West, North and South who can help us achieve and enhance the well being of our people. We should build bridges with our perceived foes and consolidate our relations with all those who wish to be our true friends. We pay tribute to our security forces for the peace and tranquility that we presently enjoy and we do not for one moment take it for granted. If anything, this calls for the maintenance of a professional and well-resourced security sector.
Social Space
As we see in the New Year, we should acknowledge the urgent need to address the education, health and housing sectors that are under severe stress due to inadequate and limited resources. During 2015, the economic and social hardships faced by our people were on the increase as depressing poverty took root everywhere. We should realise that the bulk of our people are not fully or properly served by our education, health and housing sectors due to lack of economic capacity to fend for themselves. We should have a government that empowers its people to address basic day-to-day challenges. We should have a government that promotes institutions that are well resourced to ensure service delivery to the ordinary people without political or partisan discrimination and interference. The dire housing situation resulting in the exploitation of the poor by the corrupt and well connected in society should be stopped. We should have consistent and predictable policies that are enforced vigorously, where all economic or social culprits are brought to book without fear or favour.
Let us not lose hope; we are masters of our own destiny.
Iwe neni tine basa rekuvaka Zimbabwe murunyararo.
Wena lami silom’sebenzi wokwakha iZimbabwe elokuthula.
Together we can BUILD Zimbabwe in peace.
GOD BLESS ZIMBABWE.

Mugabe MPs Meet Mujuru

Mujuru meeting her growing team of aides in Harare
Mujuru meeting her growing team of aides in Harare

The worst nightmares of President Robert Mugabe’s warring post-congress Zanu PF could soon be confirmed as dozens of the party’s legislators are holding meetings with former Vice President Joice Mujuru with the intention of joining her People First movement, the Daily News can reveal exclusively.
Well-placed sources confirmed yesterday that many post-congress Zanu PF MPs (names supplied but withheld on request) — a significant number of them from Mashonaland East Province — met Mujuru in Harare on Tuesday and pledged that they would soon come out in the open in support of her.
If the MPs follow through on their promises, this will set the cat among the pigeons in the post-congress Zanu PF which is reeling from its deadly and seemingly-unstoppable factional and succession wars.
Ruling party insiders who spoke to the Daily News last night said the mooted move by the concerned legislators would deal “a fatal blow” to the brawling former liberation movement ahead of the country’s eagerly-anticipated 2018 national elections.
“We had fruitful discussions with Mai Mujuru yesterday and pledged our commitment to the cause of democratising the country to the benefit of millions of suffering Zimbabweans.
“She wanted us to state our position unequivocally regarding the People First project and the majority of us happily pledged to go with her,” one of the legislators who plan to ditch the post-congress Zanu PF said.
Contacted yesterday to establish whether he was one of the disgruntled ruling party MPs who had met with Mujuru, Maramba Pfungwe legislator Washington Musvaire accused his Zanu PF rivals of working overtime to get him expelled from the party.
“I know that there are malicious people in the party fighting me because they are still bitter that they lost to me in the primary elections. I am not feeling well right now and I am not aware of the meeting with Mujuru,” Musvaire said.
But post-congress Zanu PF insiders said the soon-to-be departing MPs, many of whom are said to be either serving suspensions or facing expulsion, were keen to leave as they were frustrated by the ruling party’s mindless bloodletting and its bigwigs’ lack of appreciation for them.
“Mai Mujuru, being the experienced politician that she is, who also knows Zanu PF inside out, is simply taking advantage of these useless fights to build People First.
“We cannot continue pretending that all is well with us when it is clear that we are no longer reading from the same page with the people who now control the levers of power in Zanu PF.
“In any case, the ship is clearly sinking and you have to be foolish to still believe that the party can take Zimbabwe somewhere,” a Zanu PF central committee member said.
“The beginning of 2016 will be very interesting because there will be dozens of parliamentary by-elections as many MPs join Mai Mujuru and People First.
“The general feeling among many people is that there is no more room in Zanu PF for loyal and honest cadres,” the official added.
People First spokesperson, Rugare Gumbo, confirmed that many post-congress Zanu PF MPs were contemplating joining the yet-to-be officially-launched party.
“There are many of them who are meeting her (Mujuru). Remember, they are politicians who are being chased away by their party. Where do you want them to go? They are obviously looking for a new political home and they feel welcome here,” he said.
In the meantime, analysts say should the Mujuru MPs, who are said to number well over 100, proceed to jump ship; the move could trigger early national polls, which could crank up the heat on the bitterly-divided ruling party which is already reeling from its seemingly-unstoppable factional and succession wars.
Zanu PF is also under pressure from the looming pact among the country’s opposition parties following the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding between opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s MDC and other parties to demand key electoral reforms before 2018.
The agreement is widely seen as a prelude to a more comprehensive electoral pact, which could see all opposition parties rallying behind a single presidential candidate against Mugabe.
Mujuru also recently launched her Blueprint to Unlock Investment and Leverage for Development (Build), throwing Zanu PF into panic mode and even provoking the open ire of Mugabe, who bizarrely went on to threaten the independent media for propping up his former second-in-command.
The latest developments corroborate a Daily News lead story last week which revealed plans for a second “Bhora Musango”, after it emerged that a number of Zanu PF legislators were readying themselves to join Mujuru.
“While many of us were hopeful that the recent conference in Victoria Falls would calm the rampant factionalism in the party, things are getting worse and not looking good at all going forward.
“As you may know, more than 200 senior officials, a good number of them legislators, have either been expelled or suspended from the party over the past year, which has bred the ideal climate for more chaos and infighting.
“The worry we have is that if dozens of MPs resign en masse, and some say up to 100 legislators could join Mai Mujuru ahead of 2018 because many of them feel unwanted anyway in the party, things could get a whole lot worse both in the party and the country,” a senior Zanu PF official said dejectedly.
A fortnight ago, the Zanu PF Mashonaland East provincial executive recommended the expulsion from the party of legislators Felix Mhona (Chikomba Central), Simbaneuta Mudarikwa (Uzumba), Musvaire (Maramba Pfungwe), Phineas Chihota (Seke) and Tendayi Makunde (Murewa North).
Contacted by the Daily News for comment then, Musvaire said Zanu PF would be shooting itself in the foot if it carried out this threat, alluding to the fact that many provincial and district officials were thinking of resigning from the party en masse in protest if this happened.
He said while he would “respect the party’s decision because I am very junior and they are my elders”, his Maramba Pfungwe constituency was in turmoil and a fertile ground for Mujuru to make rich pickings as the ruling party’s factional and succession wars continued to escalate.
“While we as leaders are trying our best to calm people down … those below us may not understand all this. We know the party leadership has not sanctioned our expulsion but rather lower ranking officials who lost to us in primary elections.
“What is saddening though is that all the party structures that supported us in the primary elections have been labelled Gamatox (Zanu PF code for Mujuru supporters) and district chairmen throughout the constituency are threatening to resign,” Musvaire added.
Another post-congress Zanu PF official said with Mujuru said to be launching her party in February next year, the ruling party was “clearly panicking” and hence the “irrational threat” to ruthlessly purge all officials who were suspected to be working with the former VP.
A legislator who has been “falsely accused of being Gamatox” also told the Daily News that he and many other Zanu PF MPs were indeed contemplating jumping ship “because we are not wanted”.
“If bad things can happen to the likes of (War Veterans minister Christopher) Mutsvangwa, imagine what can happen to little ones like us in this mad war. It is very clear that they want to finish us all one by one, and so we will not allow them to dictate to us.
“What our chefs (leaders) don’t realise is that what is happening is political suicidal and could backfire in spectacular fashion as it could open floodgates for en masse resignations not only by us MPs, but also by other party officials who have been labelled Gamatox,” the MP said.DailyNews

Broke Govt Offers Doctors $2 Bus Fare to Avert Strike

Zimbabwe is bracing for an industrial action Friday by state doctors and nurses after the cash-strapped government only offered them $2 per day as transport fee after failing to pay their salaries and bonuses this month.
In a letter dated December 29, secretary for Health Dr. Gerald Gwinji urged chief executives of government hospitals and provincial medical directors to brace for the worst-case scenarios, saying: “Following the threat of work stoppage by some health workers, you are hereby requested to make contingency plans to ensure that all hospital critical areas are adequately staffed and remain functional during the said period January 1-5 2016.
“All institutions are required to provide support to health workers in critical areas by providing transport or bus fare.”
President of the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association, Dr. Fortune Nyamande, says there is no going back on their industrial action as the money being offered by government to meet their transport demands is an insult.
“The figures which are being circulated are insulting and they are not even worth mentioning on air, because we understand that they are giving doctors $2 to fuel their cars so that they can go to work. How can a respectable person like a doctor or nurse go to a service station with that amount to fuel the car? It’s an insult and not well thought out.”
Dr. Nyamande says the promise by the government to pay health workers on the 5th of January is incensing them. “How are we supposed to survive? We were last paid on November 27, 2015”
SENIOR HEALTH OFFICIAL ON HOLIDAY
Reached for comment the executive director of the Health Services Board, Dr. Lovemore Mbengeranwa, said he was on holiday.
Dr. Mbengeranwa referred all further questions on salaries to Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa, who together with Health Minister, Dr. David Parirenyatwa, were not picking their mobile phones.
But permanent secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Dr. William Manungo, said he was not in a position to comment as he was driving. Voice of America’s Studio 7 for Zimbabwe, however, failed to reach him again by the time of going on air.
Meanwhile, as the situation gets desperate, central bank chief Dr. John Mangudya met Tuesday with representatives of the public service.
Secretary general Raymond Majongwe of the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe says Mangudya requested the meeting.
“It was at the behest of Dr. Mangudya. I would want to thank him whether he did it on his own or he was sent by the politicians but the most important thing is that there was dialogue.”
On the issue of bonuses Majongwe says it is clear from their interaction with the central bank chief that there are bound to be very long delays.
CENTRAL BANK CONFIRMATION
Dr. Mangudya confirmed holding the meeting saying they are routine as he prepares for his Monetary Policy Statement next month.
Workers though said they would have wanted officials from the Ministry of Finance to be present. Dr. Mangudya acknowledged that it would have made a lot of sense if the officials attended the meeting.
At the same time, in a statement, Public Service Association chairperson, Jeremiah Bvirindi, said government’s inability to communicate effectively had made things worse and created an atmosphere of mistrust between the employer and workers.
He said government should be warned that an industrial action is almost inevitable, saying “while we understand the hard times facing government, we expect continuous engagement with our employer on issues of mutual benefit to both parties. At this juncture we are finding it difficult to convince our members to be calm at this sad development.”
Education Minister and Acting Labor Minister Lazarus Dokora said government is ready to engage civil servants and denied allegations that cabinet ministers are not willing to engage with workers.
BALOONING CIVIL SERVICE
The number of government workers increased from about 315,000 in 2009 to about 550,000 in 2014 and with government coffers dwindling due to the economic crisis, the situation is set to worsen.
Speaking ahead of his 2015 national budget presentation, Chinamasa admitted to International Monetary Fund (IMF) officials that he was embarrassed that staff costs were gobbling up about 75 percent of government revenues.
“I am embarrassed that our wage bill is some 76 percent of whatever revenue we receive. It’s not good, it’s not sustainable,” said Chinamasa during a meeting with IMF official, Domenico Fanizza.VOA

SA King Who Attacked Zuma Jailed 12 Years

Johannesburg. – A South African traditional king from Nelson Mandela’s Thembu ethnic group began a 12-year prison sentence yesterday for arson, kidnap and assault of his subjects, after a long battle to stay out of jail.

Jailed... King Dalindyebo
Jailed… King Dalindyebo

King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo reported to the Mthatha Correctional Centre in Eastern Cape province overnight after failing in an 11th-hour bid to evade incarceration by seeking a retrial or a presidential pardon.
In 2009, the controversial king was convicted of manslaughter, arson and assault charges for offences committed more than two decades ago.
He was sentenced to 15 years in 2009, but in October the Supreme Court dropped the manslaughter charge and reduced his sentence to 12 years on appeal.
This week he sought to further extend his bail, but a High Court judge in Mthatha, the largest city near Mandela’s rural home of Qunu, threw out the request.
“We confirm that King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo handed himself to the head of Mthatha Correctional Centre,” the justice ministry said in a statement.
He is expected to serve his sentence in Wellington Prison, outside Mthatha.
The 51-year-old king, a self-confessed marijuana smoker, was found guilty of torching dwellings that housed some of his subjects and tenants who had resisted eviction.
He was also convicted of publicly assaulting three young men who had already been brutally beaten by his henchmen, and of kidnapping a wife and children of one of his subjects whom he considered a dissident.
The Supreme Court concluded that the king “ruled with fear and trepidation” and that “his behaviour was all the more deplorable because the victims of his reign of terror were the vulnerable rural poor.”
It also accused him of “obstructive” action for changing his lawyers 11 times, causing 34 postponements of the case.
Dalindyebo became king of the Thembu, a Xhosa ethnic group that boasted Mandela as its most prominent clan member, in 1989.
The royal family will meet next week to discuss whether a successor should be chosen due to their monarch’s imprisonment.
Kings have no official power in modern South Africa, but still command loyalty among millions of people.
They are recognised in the constitution as traditional leaders and receive government funding.
Two years ago the king publicly disparaged President Jacob Zuma, an ethnic Zulu, but later apologised. – AFP.

Peter Moyo In Car Accident

Nearly killed...Peter Moyo
lucky to be alive…Peter Moyo

Utakataka Express front man Peter Moyo was yesterday morning involved in a car accident on his way from Masvingo to Beitbridge for a show. His BMW veered off the road and hit a tree when he tried to avoid an oncoming vehicle that had encroached into his lane.
Moyo who sustained minor injuries was travelling together with some of his band members who also sustained some injuries and were all ferried to Beitbridge Hospital.
In an interview soon after being discharged from the hospital, the musician said he was coming from a show in Masvingo and was heading for Beitbridge where he was supposed to perform on New Years Eve.
“I had a show yesterday night (Wednesday) in Masvingo and was supposed to be performing in Beitbridge today, (yesterday) that is where we were heading to when the accident occurred,” he said.
“I was trying to avoid a car which came into my lane and ended up hitting a tree, my car is damaged and I don’t think it will be on the road again,” he said.
He said he was feeling much better after being discharged but was worried about his band members who were still hospitalised.
“I’m now feeling better. I was taken to hospital where I got some medication after some x-rays. I sustained some injuries but it was not serious and I was given some pills to recover,” he said.
Commenting on the Beitbridge show, Peter said he was not sure if the show would go on or not since some of his band members were still hospitalised by the time of going to print.
“I don’t know if we can still make it to today’s show since Willow, Servy and Bismark are still in hospital and at the same time it’s difficult for me to conclude that we have cancelled the show since I have not communicated with the promoters of the show yet,” he said.
This is not the first time that the young musician has been involved in an accident.
He was involved in another accident which was reportedly to have occurred in Hillside, Harare, when his Jeep Cherokee rammed into another vehicle.State Media

Pastor Who Told Mugabe The Truth Wins 1st Case

A Kariba based Pastor who told President Robert Mugabe “The Truth,” Phillip Mugadza, has won his court case for a reduction of the bail amount.
The court on Thursday slashed Mugadza’s bail from $500 to $50.
He is being charged for allegedly obstructing traffic en-route to the ZANU PF conference in December and his court case will be heard on the 6th January.
On the day the ZANU PF Conference opened he held out a poster reading, “Mr President The People Are Suffering.”
Mugadza is now expected to leave police cells and spend the new year crossover with his family.

NO Tariff Increases On Service Delivery In 2016-Harare City Council

Harare city council has announced that there will be no tariff increases on services delivery because of the stressed economy which residents are going through.
“There is no tariff increase proposal for main line services (water, property tax, health services and refuse fees) in 2016,” said the city  council  this week.
The city fathers say they have  noted that the prevailing economic environment where thousands are in the informal sector will make life more difficult for them “should we increase” tariffs on service delivery.
“Your council is once more proposing a largely standstill budget on the back of the economic environment  which essentially is characterised by deflationary pressures , receding disposable income , liquidity constraints , company closures, burgeoning debts  and general mutation of the economic landscape( in formalisation )”.
“The interplay of the above dynamics dictates to us that tariff increases lack merit   and justification and will easily constitute a heavy financial strain on the populace,” Harare city council noted.
Harare city council is owed $380 million by government departments, private entities and residents.
The city fathers who are also failing to remit $180 million it owes ZIMRA and NSSA in tax retention and workers pensions contributions during the Christmas holidays announced that it was offering a 30% discount on ratepayers for 2016 who would have settled their bills by 31 December 2015 as a way of persuading residents to clear their arrears on unpaid rate bills.

Zimbabwe’s Only Hope For Redemption: Demystifying The People First Movement
By Setfree N Mafukidze
Columnists Note:
It is indeed a great honour to be allowed space on this publication to demystify the myths surrounding the popular and celebrated People First Movement.
To start with I must point out that the idea to come up with an alternative political force in Zimbabwe came up as a result of  the unconstitutional purging of party members in the post December  2014 elective congress of Zanu-PF.
As given by the Zanu-PF constitution then, the congress held at that time was meant to elect the party’s leadership and as a result of the continued growth in popularity of the then Vice President Dr Joice Teurai Ropa Mujuru was clearly identified as a threat to the continued hold on to power by President Robert Mugabe leading to Vice-President Mujuru being accused of plotting to topple the President through witchcraft and assassination plots which up to this day one year later have not been substantiated .
This led to Dr Joice Mujuru’s ouster from the ruling party alongside several senior party officials viewed to be sympathetic to her.
It is against this background that an idea to challenge President Mugabe and Zanu-PF was mooted, taking into consideration the effects of Zanu-PF misrule on the nation had become alarming. Of course Dr Mujuru and others had been part of the same party and government for over 3 decades, but clearly saw things differently as evidenced by her ouster from Zanu-PF.
What many people may have failed to comprehend, or may have deliberately ignored, is that Dr Mujuru’s ouster is a result of her endeavour to transform ZANU PF from a personality centred party into a people centred party. She was initiating an inclusive approach within ZANU PF and the country at large, as evidenced by her refusal to overly castigate the opposition during the GNU and her overtures to engage the foreign diplomats to try and re-engage and bring back Zimbabwe to the membership of the League of Nations. This is what in essence irked Mugabe and resulted in her expulsion.
The People First Movement came up as a result of the People calling on Dr Mujuru to lead the masses out of the continued suffering that had been brought about through Zanu-PF misrule.
Over the past year recruitment and mobilisation has taken off with a seemingly overwhelming response.
At first one would have assumed those purged from Zanu-PF were the only people interested in creating a new political home but the outcome has proved that even those in other opposition parties were joining in numbers. Mobilisation of a support base which is still ongoing for the People First Movement clearly indicates the desire by the masses to work towards a people oriented party that will centre on assuring the demands of the people are put ahead of those of the leadership .
The obvious question would now be why should people support this new political outfit?
On the 8th of September 2015 Dr Joice Mujuru shared the Blueprint to Unlock Investment and Leverage for Development ( BUILD ). The blueprint is a proposal of a vision on how to bring a better Zimbabwe for all Zimbabweans. It may be pointed out that the Blueprint is not a policy document but a precursor to the real policy document, yet to be presented.
Covered under BUILD are important clusters namely
1.Constitutionalism
2 . Economic
3.Infrastructure
4 . International and National Security
5 . Social
Under these clusters they are several advancements that are meant to turn around the fortunes of our country and which are highly practical which include Manufacturing sector,Mining sector,Parastatal,Agriculture, Civil service and many other areas noted as requiring government attention to restore sanity in the country.
But why is Dr Mujuru the preferred candidate to depose Mugabe and takeover the reigns in 2018? What does she have that other opposition leaders, who have tried ever since don’t possess?
Here is an analysis of her credibility over other candidates.
1) Dr Mujuru is a liberation icon of note, whose record is impeccable and no one can soil it no matter how they try. Tsvangirai may have trumped Mugabe in 2008 but his disadvantage was mainly the lack of liberation credentials and it messed up his potential to assume power. Given the history of our country, the liberation badge stands to matter seriously in any power takeover. Our populace, especially the rural folk are very conversant of the experiences and the processes of this country’s sacrifices made by their sons and daughters to free them from the colonial york, that they would not sacrifice it to a liberation non-entity at this stage.
Dr Mujuru meets this requirement, and has the respect of the security sector, and the support thereof.
2) Dr Mujuru has worked hard since her entrance into government, to upgrade herself academically and intellectually till she acquired her doctorate in 2014, a qualification aptly necessary for the office of the president.
3) Dr Mujuru has been in government and knows the intricacies of office bearing, procedure, protocol and etiquette. Since she entered government as the youngest ever Minister and Member of Parliament at 25 in 1980, to the time she was purged, having spent ten years of it as VP, she has learnt the ropes of governance and how it operates. She will immediately settle down into office without having to be hand held and shown the ropes of governance.
4) Dr Mujuru has the support and adoration of the citizenry, both from the ruling party, the opposition and the  non-aligned members of society.  She is in the hearts of many a Zimbabwean and can score points over her rival contenders. She has always acted as a unifier, God fearing and has never castigated anyone, be they ZANU PF or opposition.
5) Dr Mujuru is a mother, who understands the pain of parenthood, suffering and family life, which resonates well with the populace. She is compassionate, level headed and calculative in both her speech and her action. She is a good listener, who takes time to hear the other side before making any decision.
6) Dr Mujuru has always had an open heart- open mind approach, and has never sought to isolate the country from the global village by targeting a certain race, region or country, even though she had to endure the autocratic imposition of disastrous policies by her former boss. She has always believed, not in fighting those in disagreement with the country’s interests, but in dialogue and convergence of common interests and to agree to disagree on those interests detrimental to Zimbabwe’s progression and livelihood. She has always believed in engagement with both the east and the west for the benefit of the country while protecting the Zimbabwean economy and ensuring benefication from our resources and inclusive participation as espoused in the blueprint. Locally she is a good listener and gives an ear to people of all parties and society.
It is therefore, based on the above, plus the blueprint she unveiled, safe to conclude that in Dr Mujuru as leader of People First the country has at it’s behest, the most formidable and qualified torch bearer for our country for 2018 to land the presidential seat for 2018.
Having said this it should be noted that the People First Movement considers the People the biggest resource and as such the very same citizens are free to add flesh to the already existing BUILD document for the purpose of improving livelihood within Zimbabwe.
Supporting the People First Movement means one accepts the need for reforming our country and remove it from the quagmire it is in.The party is open to all races, tribes as equal members of our society who all deserve to benefit from our  national and natural resources.
A political analyst and social commentator, Comrade Setfree N Mafukidze is a young Zimbabwean leader, a former member of Zanu PF, who is passionately committed to reforming and resurrecting the nation of Zimbabwe. He writes in his personal capacity.

Harare Runs 30 Dodgy Bank Accounts

State Media| Harare runs 30 bank accounts• Signatories unknown •
Harare City Council is reportedly running over 30 bank accounts, prompting councillors to order an urgent audit of the accounts and their signatories. Ten of the accounts are reportedly active, while 20 are said to be dormant.

The Urban Council Act is silent on the number of bank accounts local authorities can operate at a time, but financial experts say multiple bank accounts raise suspicion of underhand dealings.
Councillors have asked the city’s audit committee to investigate the bank accounts and their signatories after city officials failed to provide the information upon request by the city fathers.
An audit of a reconciliation of all the city’s bank accounts carried out last year revealed that the city had 35 accounts and that council had not reconciled all of them in three years from 2009 to 2012.
Recent minutes of the Finance and Development Committee show that councillors expressed concern that a report detailing the number of the city’s bank accounts and the signatories had not been submitted.
“During discussion, the committee noted with concern that the finance director was encountering challenges to obtain the requisite information on this matter.
“The acting town clerk (Mrs Josephine Ncube) also highlighted that she had been made aware of the matter and advised that she had called for a meeting where she would meet the finance director and his senior officials to discuss the matter,” read the minutes.
“The committee expressed concern on the development and urged the acting town clerk to take corrective action as a matter of urgency. The committee felt that the matter had to be referred to the audit committee to establish the number of the city’s bank accounts and its (sic) signatories and advise this committee accordingly.”
The committee also referred to its request to be provided with the finance department’s organogram and expressed concern that this had not been submitted.
The committee referred the matter to the Human Resources and General Purposes Committee to consider the matter and advise.
Following discussions, the committee resolved that the matter regarding the number of council bank accounts and the signatories be referred to the Audit Committee to investigate and advise it.
Last year, the then town clerk Dr Tendai Mahachi told the audit committee that despite the city having this huge number of bank accounts, 25 of them were dormant.
During the deliberations, council resolved that the acting finance director ensures the number of operational bank accounts and cash books are reviewed downwards.
It also recommended that bank accounts be reconciled to the cash books on a monthly basis.-State Media

Horror Accident: 10 Killed On Spot After Police $2 Bribe

$2 police bribe kills ten people in road accident

Staff Reporter| At least ten (10) people were killed in a road horrific accident 10km outside Zvishavane on the Masvingo to Bulawayo highway yesterday.
The accident happened when a suspected drunk driver of a Honda Fit vehicle drove head-on to an approaching Toyota Noah mini bus causing an instant explosion in the process.

All eight passengers in the Honda Fit died on the spot when the vehicle caught fire and they were all burnt beyond recognition. Two people who were in the front seat of the Noah also died on the spot. Eight other people in the Noah escaped with minor injuries.
According to witnesses, the driver of the Honda Fit who was operating a pirate taxi between Masvingo and Zvishabane had been drinking beer at a local bar while waiting for his turn to load passengers.
What is shocking to witnesses is that the Honda Fit had just gone through a police roadblock. The small vehicle can only carry a maximum of five people and it’s surprising how the vehicle made it past the roadblock with eight people in it.
Police manning the road block claim that the driver of the Honda Fit who appears known to them fled past the roadblock when he was signalled to stop. A witness who claims to have been driving behind the vehicle however disputes the police story claiming that the driver of the vehicle was stopped and had a casual chat with one police officer who received a bribe from the driver.
Another pirate taxi operator who spoke to a ZimEye.com correspondent claimed that they are all aware of the roadblock and they all normally load about seven people in their small vehicles and pay a $2 bribe through the roadblocks on their way. The driver claims that the taxi operators now refer to the road block as a tollgate.

Burundi President threatens to Kill Peacekeepers

threat...Pierre Nkurunziza
threat…Pierre Nkurunziza

Reuters| NAIROBI: Burundi President Pierre Nkurunziza said on Wednesday that Burundians would fight against any peacekeepers sent into the country by the African Union, in his first public response to the AU’s plan to deal with an escalating political crisis.
The African Union said this month it was ready to send 5,000 peacekeepers to protect civilians caught up in months of violence, invoking for the first time powers to intervene in a member state against its will.
“Everyone has to respect Burundi borders,” Nkurunziza said in comments broadcast on state radio.
“In case they violate those principles, they will have attacked the country and every Burundian will stand up and fight against them … The country will have been attacked and it will respond,” he said.
Other government officials have already said any peacekeepers arriving without Burundi’s permission would violate its sovereignty.
Nkurunziza also reiterated the government’s position that any opposition members who had taken part in a failed coup in May should be barred from participating in peace talks, which kicked off this week in Kampala, Uganda.
“We saw them the other day in Kampala as government opponents,” he said. “We can’t accept this. They must be arrested… Instead of bringing them to talks, they should instead bring them to the court.”
The talks, brokered by the East African Community regional bloc, were expected to reconvene in Tanzania next month, but it remains unclear if Burundi’s government will participate if they do not agree on which individuals represent the opposition.
More than 400 people have been killed and 220,000 have fled to neighbouring countries since the crisis erupted in April, triggered by Nkurunziza’s bid for a third term.
Opposition groups took to the streets saying he was violating constitutional term limits. But he pointed to a court order allowing his campaign and was re-elected in a disputed July vote.
Continued clashes and targeted assassinations in the central African nation have unsettled a region where memories of the 1994 genocide in neighbouring Rwanda are still raw.
In his comments on Wednesday, Nkurunziza also appeared to praise Rwandan President Paul Kagame, who Burundi has accused of supporting rebel groups’ efforts to recruit Burundian refugees and of interfering in Burundi’s affairs. Kagame denies this.
“I want to inform Rwandans that the relations with Rwanda will always be good as long I will be the president of Burundi,” Nkurunziza said.

Police Attack Civil Servants

Police in Harare have brutalised the leaders of the Rural Progressive Teachers Union Zimbabwe (PTUZ) and former Zimbabwe National Students Union-Zinasu Pride Mukono for organising a demo’ against government’s failure to give civil servants their salaries.
Mkono and company were on Tuesday raided at Kuwadzana 2 shopping centre by armed police officers who mercilessly beat them up before arresting them.
The activists were working on a strategic planning meeting on January 4, 2016 in Harare where they wanted to stage a demo.
The crew on Wednesday appeared before a Mbare Magistrate court who remanded them out of custody.

Erect Manhood at Work Nurse Jailed 13 Years

By Terrence Mawawa, Chiredzi| A male nurse who walked around and performed his work duties with a visibly erect manhood has been jailed for 13 years by Chiredzi magistrate Judith Zuyu.
Believe Mauswa, a male nurse based at Chizvirizviri clinic became aroused after fondling a female patient’s private parts under the pretext of doing an antenatal test.
He fondled the patient’s private parts claiming he was doing some medical check-ups in the laboratory. Mauswa ordered the woman to undress and stroked her clitoris for seven minutes until his manhood was erect, as described by witnesses.
In passing the judgment in court attended by ZimEye.com, magistrate Zuyu said Mauswa failed to behave in a professional manner and took advantage of an unsuspecting woman to satisfy his sexual desire.
The confused patient informed Mauswa ‘s superiors, leading to his suspension and a police report was made leading to his arrest.
The woman said: “He pulled my clitoris and rolled cotton wool inside my private parts. I told him I no longer wanted to continue with the test but he did not listen and I also noticed his manhood was erect. The test lasted for seven minutes .”
A senior medical officer in Chiredzi said Mauswa acted in an unprofessional manner.
“We expect medical personnel to act in a professional manner. In the first place there was no need for the woman to undress,” he said.

CRISIS CAUSES REVOLUTION PRESIDENT MUGABE

By Francis Mufambi | It is common sense that a legitimacy crisis of a sitting government emerges when there is a relationship breakdown between the rulers and the ruled. In Zimbabwe the crisis is in sync with the Zartman theory. While it has never reached the ripe moment, at irregular intervals it approached climax point.
The current civil service Salary Crisis is a pointer to a crisis that is more likely to cause unrest and render your government absolutely illegitimate Mr. President.
Cde Mugabe, let me educate you on the exemplified political panoramas which ended up in violent clashes between the rulers and the ruled and in many cases the rulers lost the war. By analysis of social psychology as done by Scholars such as Heywood (2012), all government removals and overthrows are caused by a particular motivation. In this vein relative deprivation or in simple terms the inability for a government to meet rising public expectations leads to political instability.
In our national case, the expectation of benefiting from two million jobs, the expectations by civil servants to receive 13th cheque bonuses and salaries on time especially during the traditional December festive season can be the spark to the end of your long and increasingly unpopular rule.
It takes no rocket science to understand that public dislike of a government begins when the public recognises a weakness and tendency towards deliberate dishonesty in the affairs of government.
We have recognised that your government is a mere recycling system of tried, tired and failed politicians who have no snowball’s chance in hell to appreciate modern systems of governmental innovation and service delivery. We have realised that Mr. President, your personnel is simply a club of gluttonous piranhas who want to milk the proverbial cow until it drops dead to the disadvantage of the less powerful citizens. It is crystal clear that while you have done more harm to Zimbabwe ever since the day you took office you are oblivious of the image of decadence and failure staring back at you in the mirror and if left to your devices you will take this potential filled country to your afterlife.
These are facts which even your gardner will confirm to you and my humble submission is that you should avoid driving the country into destructive nationwide demonstrations that will destroy infrastructure and cause loss of lives.
If we are to delve into history books we can see where we are heading by what befell France and Russia. In France the ensuing fiscus crisis and economic woes as a result of conflicts with England coupled with severe droughts pushed Louis XVI to meet with State General authority creating expectations among the peasantry for reforms. Such an expectation and its failure to produce results was the reason for the revolution that saw Loius XVI and his extravagant Marie Antoinette ouster.
In Russia, the war she fought against Germany drained most of the strategic resources and fiscus, in the process worsening conditions of the general citizens. The rising expectation as a result of promised reform in the 44 years between 1860 amd 1904 led to the realisation of a weakness and in no time a revolution took place.
The main challenge Mr. President is that you are failing and have always failed to do an honest self introspection as well as an unbiased analysis of the manpower at your disposal and this more that anything else has made you the chief protagonist personally millitating against development.
Lets take for instance the present reality. You have taken your yearly leave and flown to the comfort and tranquility of Asian countries in search of better personal medical care or so the nation believes. But back home government workers have not been paid and thus can’t afford an ordinary chicken, rice and salad meal for Christmas. These are your direct employees as the head of state and His Excellency. Are you aware that almost all youths across the social strata are jobless as you take your vacation in the far east? Why dont you take your leave and go to Rural Zvimba by bus and whenever you want medical check up you visit Kutama Rural Hospital?
Mr. President Sir, Zimbabwe geographically and in terms of population is very small. This being an undeniable fact, why do we have such a big cabinet, parliament and security personnel. Are you aware that India on its own has a population bigger than Africa as a whole but it is run by one Prime minister and a cabinet less than that of Zimbabwe? Cde President, Costa Rica is performing very well as a nation without an army.
We have a problem with your penchant for seeking to please and reward your friends through duplication of ministries. It is shocking that a very country like ours which is beset by crisis of enormous scale can continue to have a Ministry of Primary and Secondary education, a Ministry of Higher and Tertiary education, a ministry of Psychomotor and a Ministry of Sports and Culture all of which can be collapsed into one ministry to save resources.
In short Cde President, I am saying Zimbabwe is becoming poor because of poor planning and stale leadership. Decisions which are made under your watch are not progressive.
It is good for the future of the nation and for what remains of your legacy as founding president for you to resign and stop holding the nation at ransom.
Please take a minute and listen to the voices of Zimbabweans and not those of the cabal which is holding you hostage, this includes your wife. They’re only interested in keeping you in office while they scheme and gain advantage in the race to succeed you. All of these have no consideration for the suffering masses or your legacy. I can assure you that given a chance they will be the first to deny you three times before the Jongwe’s third crown and if needs be deliver you to the justice system set up by the vapambepfumi.
I hope you heed my words Mr. President Sir
I fear that if you don’t then your grave will be spittle covered by future generations.

Bosso Star Arrested For Murder

Former energetic Highlanders goalkeeper, Edmore Sibanda has been arrested for allegedly fatally assaulting a man over a woman in 2006.
Sibanda, who was popularly known as MaMkhwebu during his best days with the Bulawayo giants, appeared in court yesterday facing a charge of murder.
Prosecuting, Nkathazo Dlodlo told the court that on August 19, 2006, Sibanda teamed up with two others who are still at large and assaulted a man leading to his death.
“Sibanda in the company of Andrew and Shelton Magutshwe pummelled Wesley Tawanda Nyamupungidze with empty bottles. They punched and kicked him all over the body in a fight over a woman,” said Dlodlo.
The man later died.
Sibanda was represented by his lawyer, Byron Sengweni applied for $100 bail.
“Your worship, my client isn’t a flight risk. I don’t know why police say he had been on the run because he has been coaching Hwange juniors and never ran away as alleged by the police,” said Sengweni.
He said the State case against his client was weak as it had failed to charge a driver who ran over Nyamupungidze leading to his death.
“Your worship, the deceased was hit by a car as he was trying to flee some people whom he was fighting with. A case of culpable homicide was opened against the driver and the State failed to prove its case and it was dropped. After failing to charge the driver, they decided to open a murder case against my client,” said Sengweni.
Magistrate Tinashe Tashaya remanded Sibanda in custody to today for bail application ruling.
Sibanda is among the prominent Bosso stars having played for the Bulawayo giants between 1999 and 2004.
The eccentric ex-goalkeeper was a crowd favourite.
Now he is an assistant coach at Hwange Juniors.

Paediatric ART Intake Improves To Over 75%

The Ministry of Health and Child Care says HIV and AIDS treatment on children has improved to over 75% from less than 40% in the past two years.
There are 156 000 children who are living with HIV with only 46,319 (40%) of them being on treatment.
The low uptake of Anti retroviral treatment on children has been caused mainly by the “delicacy” nature of infants which has not only left paediatric ARV expire hospitals but also claimed thousands of children’s lives.
Head of HIV and TB unit in the Health and Child Care Ministry Dr Owen Mugurungi told journalists attending a health talk show on new HIV guidelines set by World Health Organisation which was organised by the Health Journalists Association of Zimbabwe in Harare that paediatric ART has improved to over 70% in a space of two years.
“I am happy to announce that as at the end of 2013 we were at 39% in terms of ART coverage on children, and end of 2014 we got slightly at above 56% and as at the end of this year we are actually even better in paediatric than in adults which I think with satisfaction that we have done a lot in improving and making sure that more children are put on treatment,” said Dr Mugurungi.
“In adults we are slightly around 70% and in children we have moved beyond 75% in terms of coverage which is a good thing which we feel we can also maintain and sustain”.
Dr Mugurungi said they have superseded   the problems which were leading to the low uptake of paediatric ART.
“Initially there were no paediatric formulations, we used to break the tablet and crush it and that itself was a challenge but we now have paediatric formulations,”Dr Mugurungi said.
“The second issue was that in adults we used the CD4 count machines (to measure the amount of the virus) and in paediatric we used to have percentages and so we calculated and not everybody was good at that”.

Man Stabs Five Over Rand Comment

A South Africa based man from Gutu allegedly stabbed five men with a knife on their buttocks while drinking beer after they reminded him that the South African rand had become worthless.
46 year old Timothy Mabika, of Chief Gutu allegedly stabbed Tendai Shoko, Menaart Hungwe and brothers Reuben, Miros, Trymore Jazira leaving them with serious wounds at Mpandawana Growth Point.
The men were rushed to Masvingo General Hospital with their trousers soaked in blood following the attack on Boxing Day.
Gabriel Majomba, a relative to one of the victims, said what started as a simple argument went wrong when Mabika put a hand in his pocket and drew a knife before stabbing the five men on their buttocks.
“Mabika was drinking beer with the five victims at Mpandawana Growth Point at around 4 PM. He was the one buying them beer,” he said
“One of them, probably after having one too many told Mabika that his money was valueless. Trymore Jazira told him that the South African rand was useless and people no longer wanted it in Zimbabwe.”

He said Mabika told Trymore to stop speaking badly about the currency that was buying him beer.
However, Trymore allegedly persisted and his friends joined in.
Majomba said an irritated Mabika drew a knife and charged at Trymore who hid behind his brother, Reuben.

“The group tried to restrain Mabika but he overpowered them. They started fleeing with Mabika in hot pursuit. He caught up with them and stabbed them on buttocks one by one leaving them seriously injured,” he said.
But at the time of writing no police report was filed.
Masvingo spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula said:
“That isn’t to our knowledge, the case could have happened and the victims decided not to report.”
However, hospital officials said the five were admitted on Sunday after they were rushed to hospital on Saturday with deep stab wounds on their buttocks.
“Five men were admitted at our hospital’s male surgical ward and had stab wounds on their buttocks. They all gave a similar account of how their drinking mate, based in South Africa stabbed them following an argument over the value of rand,” said an official.
Masvingo provincial medical director Dr Amadeaus Shamu declined to comment saying doing so is unethical according to the patients’ charter. – State Media

Trees Threaten to Kill President Mugabe

President Robert Mugabe’s life is in danger and the Head Of State’s long hoary life could easily be ended by natural trees planted at his official State House premises, security bosses have been warned.
These observations were communicated on Monday when a top police officer and ZRP Harare boss, Senior Assistant Commissioner Shadreck Mubaiwa was smashed to death by a falling tree planted just outside State House.
Several trees planted around the premises where Mugabe walks and drives around are old and can crash down at any time from now. Recently a Chinese man was lucky to be alive when together with his baby they had another huge tree bludgeon his car while driving.
CIOs have since been told to ensure that the trees around State House are properly maintained as the Monday accident is not the first and annually Harare trees have been falling onto cars.
There were wide suggestions claiming that the tree was hit by lightning. But it was not raining at all on the day, analysts noted. One analyst writing in the ZimEye Newsroom, Eric Chapanduka commented on his worries saying, “I still do not understand what could have caused the tree to fall and break instantly. Maybe the tree was diseased.
“The ZANU PF government has no history of proper maintenance of trees even those at State House. There are several causes. It could be soil erosion. But there is no such construction work allowed at State House.”
“So that theory should be dismissed and since there is no excavation work , all this means the roots of the tree were intact. And if this was so it is likely the toppling of the tree could have been caused by a severe storm or heavy rains but this theory is again dismissed since it was not raining and there were neither storm nor heavy winds.
“Then one likely scenario from natural causes is the ZANU PF planted tree was brought down by decay but for this to be possible decay should have been at the roots to bring down the giant healthy looking tree. But again decay does not mean the tree could be vulnerable to fall in the absence of a storm because the action of wind is needed to bend the branches and cause the tree to sway and bring it down . But if one insists on this theory, it doesn’t make sense.
“But again as said this is not the first time that this has happened to a seemingly healthy tree at State House. So these trees could have been grown on shallow soil. Then if the soil is shallow it leaves us to speculate what could be underground at State House.”

Govt Brings Back Green Bombers

Government has brought back the controversial National Youth Service with the graduation of over 80,000 entrants now to be called Green Bombers.
The State calls it the National Youth Service (NYS) but opposition parties say it is a mere ZANU PF program part of the wider terror network to be used to intimidate voters at election time.
President Robert Mugabe’s nephew and Youth Minister Patrick Zhuwao said the 80 000 graduates scattered around the country should have a hand in economic development.
He made the remarks after meeting the NYS Association members in Harare yesterday. “We have 80 000 graduates that are willing to make this economy move,” he said.
“This is a huge amount of human capital that we should be taking advantage of. I am going to co-ordinate your interactions with Government because the solution to the Zimbabwean economy lies with us Zimbabweans. Foreigners will only come to assist us and they do that on our terms. We are taking a strategic focus which focuses on Zim-Asset and the 10-point plan and we looking at localising the 10-point Plan so that it is implemented at ward level and co-ordinated to the constituency level.”
Zhuwao added: “In line with the economic empowerment strategy that the ministry is finalising, the NYS will play a crucial role through programmes such as Youth Build Zimbabwe, Youth Feed Zimbabwe and Youth Secure Zimbabwe which will be implemented at community level. Special emphasis will be on in-situ training.”
Zhuwao quoted by the state broadcaster said his ministry was working on the legislative framework to regulate the NYS programme and was re-institutionalising training in line with the directive by President Mugabe in February.
“Cabinet of June 16, 2012 directed the ministry to make legislative amendments to the National Service Act (Number 19, Chapter 11:08 of 1979) and we are currently working on that,” he said.
“It was during this period that camp-based NYS training stopped due to inadequacy of financial resources. The principles of the NYS Bill are now under consideration and will be submitted to the Attorney-General’s Office to pursue the enactment of a NYS legislation.”
He said since President Mugabe’s directive, camp-based training had been re-introduced at Dadaya Training Centre in Midlands with 112 people graduating two weeks ago.
Zhuwao defended his move saying it was unfortunate that “certain narratives” were being created to downplay the importance of NYS yet many countries, including Western ones, had a similar programme.
He said NYS graduates had also immensely contributed to the peace and security being enjoyed in the country as they also went through conflict prevention, management, resolution and transformation skills.

Pastor who told Mugabe the Truth Languishes in Prison

A PASTOR arrested for telling President Robert Mugabe the truth while waving a simple message that ‘Zimbabweans are suffering’, is languishing in prison cells since the Christmas period and now set to cross over into the new year behind bars.
Pastor Phillip Mugadza, a family man, is being persecuted by the State for exercising his constitutional rights of free protest against Mugabe, and needs $360 to secure his bail release.
While in Victoria Falls early this month, Mugadza held out a humble placard that simply read, “Mr President The People are Suffering.” It also quoted Proverbs 21:13 from the Bible, which reads, “Whoever shuts their ears to the cry of the poor will also cry out and not be answered”.

The message came at a time when civil servants and other workers under Mugabe’s desk are failing to access their salaries.
The State in prosecuting however says he committed a crime stating it is that of obstructing party traffic en route to the ZANU PF conference.

BLOODY MURDER: Pastor Kills Wife, Daughter

A Pastor based in Kwekwe allegedly hacked his wife and stepdaughter to death before hanging himself in a bush following a misunderstanding over infidelity.
Lazarus Dube, 44, brutally axed his wife Lucy, and stepdaughter Mary, 18, on Monday at around 9AM.
He allegedly committed the gruesome crime in his staff house at Sirmic Enterprises, industrial site. Dube allegedly accused his wife and stepdaughter of being prostitutes before chopping them up.
He called his uncle Nickels Sibanda barely 30 minutes after the murder, telling him he had killed his family.
Sibanda who travelled from Insiza to Kwekwe told the State Media at Kwekwe Police Station that his nephew, a pastor with an Apostolic Sect based in Mbizo 18, told him he killed his family because they refused to repent from prostitution.
“I can confirm that my nephew axed to death his wife and step daughter on Monday morning accusing them of being prostitutes,” he said.
“I was in Insiza when my nephew called me. He told me that he had killed them because they were involved with many men. He said he had asked them to repent but they had refused to listen to him and continued being promiscuous.”
He said he received Dube’s call on Monday at around 9.30AM.
Sibanda said he asked Dube to go and report the matter to the police.
He said his nephew told him that he was going to commit suicide behind his employer’s premises, Sirmic Enterprises.
Sibanda said as he attempted to talk him out of committing suicide, Dube hung up on him.
“I went to Mbembesi Police Station and told them about my conversation with my nephew. The police called Kwekwe Central Police Station. My nephew’s body and those of his daughter and wife were then discovered by the police,” he said.
A distraught Sibanda said they were going to bury the bodies in Kwekwe today.
“We’ve no money to take our nephew to our rural home. So we’re burying him here. He was a quiet person and I’m shocked by what has happened,” said Sibanda.
“My nephew grew up in Lochard and moved to Gweru where he married his first wife who passed on. He then moved to Kwekwe where he married the second wife that he has murdered,” he said.
Sirmic Enterprises manager, Edmore Gomera said Dube was a caretaker living in the staff quarters.
“It’s unfortunate that he killed his daughter and wife at our premises. He then hanged himself near our company,” said Gomera.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko said:
“We received a sudden death case in Kwekwe involving three family members.”

Donkey Kills Goat, attacks 5 yr Old Girl

A Donkey mauled a five-year-old child and killed a goat in Tsholotsho, raising fears of a rabies outbreak in Matabeleland after two similar incidents in Matabeleland South recently.
Mpaninziba villagers told the State Media the tot was hospitalised with serious bite wounds.
They said they feared for their lives following the donkey’s strange behaviour on Tuesday.
The villagers said the animal was still roaming free.
Chief Tategulu yesterday said:
“The child was attacked last month and the goat was killed on Tuesday. I don’t have finer details on how the biting and killing took place but the donkey is still being kept by its owners.”
He said the donkey might be infected with rabies.
The chief said donkeys are among the tamest domestic animals and it was unheard of that they would attack people and kill livestock.
“The village head of the area told me about the incident. I was even asking why the donkey is still alive when it’s supposed to be killed as it has rabies symptoms. A donkey doesn’t attack people if it’s not infected with rabies,” he said.
Chief Tategulu said the donkey should be put down to prevent spread of the disease.
Matabeleland North provincial veterinary officer Dr Polex Moyo said chances are high that the donkey is infected with rabies but said he did not want to cause alarm as tests have to be conducted before concluding there indeed was a rabies outbreak.
“People should go for testing. It’s unusual for a donkey to do such a thing. The first thing to think in such a case is rabies. But I’m not confirming as laboratory tests have to be done first,” he said.
Dr Moyo said villagers must develop a culture of reporting unusual animal behaviour in their areas.
“I don’t know why farmers are not reporting these cases. We sometimes read about them in the newspapers but we have district offices everywhere,” said Dr Moyo.
“When there is crime people report to the police, when they get ill they go to the doctors. They should do the same when they face these incidents.”
He said unreported cases may result in deaths urging members of the public to approach the veterinary department.
Two weeks ago, the State Media reported a case where donkey killed and ate a goat in Halali area Matobo District.
Last month, two people in Filabusi were mauled by a donkey.
Rabies may be deadly if not treated and in February two people died in Tsholotsho after they were infected by the virus.
Rabies is a viral disease that affects mammals. Symptoms of the disease can take up to 10 days to be noticed and some notable signals include general body weakness, appetite loss, salivation, hydrophobia, indiscriminate biting, delirium and convulsions.State Media

Pasuwa Handed 3 Year Contract

Pasuwa with Chiyangwa today(Tuesday)
Pasuwa with Chiyangwa today(Tuesday)

Zifa has offered Warriors coach Kalisto Pasuwa a three-year contract after paying some of his outstanding salaries and allowances.
This comes at a time the country’s national soccer squad is enjoying a new lease of life.
The good news is that Pasuwa, who was kicked out recently under controversial circumstances and reinstated following a public outcry and ministerial intervention, is about to sign a contract with the football association.
Pasuwa and Zifa were not at liberty to discuss the details of the contract though the Warriors mentor indicated that he is currently looking into the contract handed over to him a few days ago.

He did not have a contract under the Cuthbert Dube-led Zifa board, which was booted out of office a month ago and replaced by one led by businessman Phillip Chiyangwa, following accusations of failing to properly run soccer in Zimbabwe.
Meanwhile, for the first time in years, Zimbabwe Warriors are enjoying life in camp with no complaints over accommodation and food or non-payment of allowances.
All the players called are in camp with the exception of goalkeeper Takabva Mawaya of Hwange who has returned home due to a shoulder injury and Teenage Hadede of Highlanders who has been excused to attend to his sick mother.
The Warriors are in camp preparing for the 2016 Africa Nations Championships or Chan, which will run in Rwanda from January 16 to February 7.
There is so much happiness and unity in camp that captain Danny Phiri, who has not been training due to an injury, is promising that the Warriors will this time around reach the final or probably bring the trophy back home.
Phiri makes his promise to Zimbabweans as a whole.
Even coach Kalisto Pasuwa is a happy man after receiving his dues as a fulfillment of a promise made by Zifa president Phillip Chiyangwa during election time.
Just like his captain, Pasuwa is confident that the Warriors will negotiate their way from the group stages and go all the way to the final.
As part of their preparations, Chiyangwa says they have arranged a friendly match against neighbours Mozambique at a date still to be announced.
He told the players to compensate their loss of participation in the 2018 World Cup with a good show in Pan African football, adding that Zifa on their part will do their best.
The last time the Warriors were at the Africa Nations Championships, the Zimbabweans finished fourth behind winners Libya, runners up Ghana, and third-placed Nigeria.
The Africa Nations Championship is a tournament for players who ply their trade for clubs in their home countries.
The Warriors who are drawn in the same group with Mali, Uganda, and Zambia are set to depart for Rwanda on January 10.-VOA

Pastor Buys Married Woman Underpants As Christmas Present

underwear christmas present
By Terrence Mawawa Gutu |A daring pastor here stunned his congregants when he bought a married woman a pair of underpants as a Christmas present.
Innocent Bhera, a pastor with a local pentecostal church was fined two beasts by Chief Nyamandi after buying the married woman a pair of underpants as a Christmas gift but he appealed at the Gutu Magistrate Court and magistrate Edward Marecha is yet to make a ruling on the appeal.
Bhera lured the woman to an all night church service and later handed her a wrapped parcel containing underpants.
He also told the woman to open the parcel later since it was a Christmas surprise. Anticipating a holy gift from the clergyman the woman was shocked to see a pair of underpants and she later informed her husband who reported the matter to Chief Nyamandi.
The matter was heard at the Gutu Magistrate Court last week but Bhera said he did not have the capacity to pay the woman’s husband Leonard Machingauta the two beasts.
Meanwhile congregants under Bhera’s stewardship have expressed shock at the clergyman’s behaviour while others claimed he had an affair with the married woman who feared her husband would discover the secret affair. Men of the cloth have of late been caught up with married women, raising questions about their sincerity.
Prominent figures like Eubert Angel, also from the same area, have also been caught abusing their authority for their sexual gratification.
Magistrate Marecha is yet to make a ruling on Bhera’s case.

War Vets And Zanu PF Land-Grabbers Sell Govt Irrigation Equipment

Top Zanu PF officials and War veterans who benefited from the controversial land reform programme are  selling irrigation equipment which government sourced for farming production , a senior government official has complained.
Part of the equipment which is being sold includes equipment which government under former Vice President Joice Mujuru secured from Brazil  last year.
Deputy Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation Development minister Davis Marapira made this revelation to state journalists on Monday when he said the development was going to worsen the country’s food security which is already at stake.
Marapira said the unproductive farmers are removing pumps, as well as computer and gear boxes from the centre pivot irrigation equipment and selling them on the black market.
The deputy minister said vandalism of irrigation equipment was rife in Mashonaland West and Masvingo provinces.
“We are in the process of investigating these culprits and we will prosecute them through the Ministry of Lands and Rural Resettlement,” said Marapira.

Grace Invades Masvingo as Presidential Candidate

  • Police Officers seen openly campaigning for Grace as she invades Masvingo.
  • Villagers ordered to “vote for Dr.Amai.”

By Terrence Mawawa, Gutu| Police officers at Chinyika Police post in Gutu surprised all and sundry when they were seen distributing Grace Mugabe posters and flyers to villagers who gathered at the business centre to receive farming inputs.
The incident witnessed by ZimEye.com happened on 24 December at Madondo supermarket.
Hundreds of villagers were surprised when three police officers began to distribute Grace Mugabe posters and flyers during the farm inputs distribution exercise.
The latest incident also confirms the fact that Grace Mugabe is now in charge of both government and Zanu PF programmes.
Villagers collecting the inputs were made to chant maxims praising Mrs Mugabe (Dr. Amai) for making the donations.
“We were ordered by our bosses to distribute Grace Mugabe’s posters and flyers and mind you there is no option but to comply with the directives from above. By the look of things Mrs Mugabe is now in charge of government affairs. Those receiving the inputs were also made to take home Mrs Mugabe’s posters and flyers,” said a police source.
The police details presiding over the process also told the villagers to vote for those who make donations, literally confirming Grace’s presidential ambitions.
The police officers at Chinyika are at present travelling to distribute Grace ‘s posters at neighbouring schools.
Sources also said another police officer in uniform has been distributing Mrs Mugabe’s flyers at Chinyika Rural Hospital particularly during an immunisation programme which began last week.
Despite denying the fact that she harbours presidential hopes Mrs Mugabe’s supporters are secretly campaigning for the versatile and controversial First Lady.
Contacted for comment earlier, Presidential Spokesman George Charamba told ZimEye.com he will not speak on Mrs Mugabe’s campaign programs as they are neither State House nor government affairs.

The documented sex abuser of women says he is the possessor of a Ph.D certificate.
His claims are reiterated in writing in one of his latest books “Prayer Banks”.  On the expression cover of that release [pictured] Angel (real name Hubert Mudzanire altered after he was listed for academic fraud in the US,) claims he is the holder of a Ph.D.

Upon an extensive search however, there was not a single trace of his published works in academic repositories as is characteristic with all acclaimed doctorates.

The man is on record openly ordering thousands of church members to go and raid cash machines so “God can bless” them.

He has also publicly announced intention to physically attack and commit acts of violence on journalists.

He is also wanted in Zimbabwe for serious fraud involving a $300,000 Bentley Car.

Despite his dented conduct, hundreds have continued to worship him as their “Spiritual Father” as they are also told that they will be cursed by God if they ever question his behaviour.

Meanwhile introducing that same book, Angel writes claiming it is a guarantee to answered prayer. “This book is a MUST READ and a guarantee to answered prayer,” he says.

How To Make 2016 Resolutions That Actually Work

Taka Sande

‘Failing to plan is planning to fail.’

Linda woke up this week in the morning and stared deeply at the mirror. “Oh my God. Am I really that fat?” she said to her sleepy husband. “Jack, I swear this new year I’m gonna lose this weight! I can feel that 2016 is my year to do this.”
And then she went on to update her Facebook status, bought a copy of a ‘How to Lose Weight Without Effort,’ and goes to the gym three times in January 2016. End of the story!
The same conversation is repeated again end of December 2016. And by the way, poor Jack is fade up with this annual weight lose conversation. As a good husband he has no choice but to support his wife.
Does your new year resolutions end up just like Linda’s?
Each New Year we sent each other best wishes for the year. Many people hope that the New Year will be better than the previous. This year, 2015, in January you also made some New Year resolutions about things you want to stop doing, and things you want to start doing. Some of you even take time to reflect and pray for the New Year. There is absolutely nothing wrong with all this. This is a great attitude.
I always wonder if all this effort produces the desired results on the promises. I wonder if each New Year turns to be a better year. Think about it seriously. Year after year many people do this. Many people religiously make resolutions to do this and that. If these things were really working then each year was going to turn out to be better for each one of them. Isn’t it? Why is it we always come back, I mean 90% of the people, to the same point; ‘a bad year.’ It’s rare to see at the end of the year someone saying ‘What a good year!’
You see, every year is exactly the same, 365 days made of minutes and seconds. If you want to change the year, change what you do. It does not matter whether you have 122 resolutions or if you gold plate them to the wall right at the front door. What you do ‘each minute of the year’ makes the difference, especially the things that depend on your choices. So, do not look up somewhere for a good year, make one! Make 2016 a great year by taking the advice below on ‘How to Make 2016 Resolutions That Actually Work.’
Ladies and gentlemen, make 2016 the best year of your life. You need to make life happen, not life happen to you. First you need to know and believe beyond doubt that you are in charge of your life. The power of life and death, failure and success, to live the lifestyle you want, to have inner fulfilment, to live your dream and conquer, is from within and is within reach. Do not allow other peoples systems to run your life – economic systems, social systems, political systems or financial systems. Do not be a victim. Take over your life and turn these systems to work for you, instead of against you.
Life Does Not Just Happen

Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe – Abraham Lincoln.

In order to carry out you calling successfully in 2016, you need to manage your life. Life does not just happen. You have to plan your life, organise your life, lead yourself and have monitoring and control measures.
Remember to make balanced resolutions. A good balance includes career or business, family, health, spiritual, finance, networks or friends, fun or holiday, physical, mental, mental or intellectual, training or development, social, and mentors or advisors.
The two most common characters of ‘super-achievers’ are 1) relentless commitment to constant learning and 2) have detailed clear goals, with a plan of action on how to achieve them. No matter how much passion you have, if you do not have a clear plan of action you will end up going in circles. After ten years you will find yourself right where you started, just like Linda.
How to Make 2016 Resolutions That Actually Work

“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”

Here are some critical steps and points on How to Make 2016 Resolutions That Actually Work:

  1. Have a purpose or vision or aim. Make it quantifiable. Do not just aim to ‘lose weight’ like Linda but aim to ‘lose 10kg by December 2016.’ Be specific!
  2. Assess your current position. Know where you are and the state of your situation.
  3. Develop and list the steps or goals that must be taken to reach the vision.
  4. Setting goals is not about writing a “wish list” in January and stick it on the fridge or wall, and for the rest of the year wait for your life to change. Your plan must be crystal clear. Draw a map of exactly how you are going to get there. Put management and control systems necessary to operationalize your plan, to keep you on track, to measure and monitor performance.
  5. Identify your resource. What resources; finance, networks, friends, skills, mentors or time does it require? Allocate these to each goal. In most cases you have to spend a lot of effort and time developing a skill that will then take you to your final purpose. Go ahead and do it. Remember this is a life purpose, it won’t happen in a day.
  6. Do a cost-benefit analysis. As you put up the plan constantly do a cost benefit analysis. Of course choose a route that gives you maximum benefit with minimum effort. But it’s rare to find such a route. Some benefit or efforts are short term others are long term. Identify the risks, things to watch out for and obstacles along the way. Identifying them is not good enough, put in a plan to deal with them. This is called risk management.
  7. In the same way list the benefits, rewards and advantages that you will harvest along the way. These are important to motivate you in days when things are not good.
  8. Finally, fit in the ‘motivational pressure.’ Something that will make you not turn back on you goal. If you want to lose weight? Sign up for a marathon like the comrades in 7 months in an exciting foreign country, and book the non-refundable flights and accommodation now. If you want to really go on holiday in future, set the date and pay a non-refundable deposit now.

Don’t jump on Facebook to announce your New Year resolution. It gives you a short term ego buzz now (“Look at me! I’m so awesome!”), but does nothing to change your behaviour. If you want to engage friends, be real. Do not make it a show.
Most of all, wishful words alone will get you there. Nearly everyone fails their new year’s resolutions. Just saying words doesn’t make a thing happen. It is the action that accompanies the words.
Ensure that your support systems are in plan; the right associates, the right advisers and the right mentors. Your environment matters! In short, create the right environment that supports the achievement of your New Year resolutions!

‘For which of you, wishing to build a farm building, does not first sit down and calculate the cost [to see] whether he has sufficient means to finish it?’ Luke 14:28

I wish you the most awesome and prosperous new year ever!

Grace Summoned by Angry War Vets

By Terrence Mawawa, Gutu | First Lady Grace Mugabe has been summoned into line by angry war veterans.

The disquieted ex soldiers here have described Grace as a traitor who has betrayed the gains of the liberation struggle.
The war veterans from Gutu North Constituency met at Chitsa Business Centre, ward 12 on Sunday and resolved to demand an explanation from president Robert Mugabe over his wife’s persistent attacks on former freedom fighters.
They also accused Grace of undermining the role played by the former freedom fighters during and after the liberation struggle.
Speaking after the crisis meeting, Themba Ndisavaka of Ndisavaka village, who identified himself as a coordinator, said another meeting would be held early January so that a delegation would meet Mugabe over Grace’s attacks on war vets.
“We are not happy with the way our leaders are belittling the former freedom fighters. Even the First Lady has been savaging the freedom fighters and I think she must be advised on the proper way to address war veterans.
“Such utterances come from traitors who are determined to reverse the gains of the liberation struggle. It is shocking to hear such arrogant words from our leaders.
“We are therefore going to meet the president so that we can voice our concerns,”said Ndisavaka .
At the meeting the war veterans concurred Mrs Mugabe had gone too far in a bid to please her supporters .
Grace and her husband have been on a warpath against the former freedom fighters with Mugabe himself savaging the war veterans.
According to party insiders Mrs Mugabe personally sacked war veterans minister Christopher Mutsvangwa fearing an uprise against her ascendancy .Grace and her ageing husband who are currently out of the country for Mugabe ‘s annual leave are likely to face protests from the former freedom fighters who also blamed Mrs Mugabe for attempting to protect her personal interests at the expense the entire nation.
