By A Correspondent- An elephant that killed the Victoria Falls Anti-Poaching Unit (VFAPU) operations director on Friday morning was tracked and later shot dead by the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks) rangers.
The stray elephant had charged at Clever Kapandura (51), attacked and trampled him to death, while he was conducting an anti-poaching patrol on Friday near Bonnaise Air bush owned by the Victoria Falls City Council.
Lovemore Ndlovu from Bonnaise Air confirmed to CITE that the elephant had been gunned down. He said:
They killed it approximately five hours later at Aerodrome suburbs.
The search was not easy as it was equally dangerous, but it was spotted by a helicopter that was dispatched to join the search and it was immediately gunned down at the same spot.
The developments were also confirmed by VFAPU co- director Teddy Brightman.
However, Zimparks spokesperson, Tinashe Farawo said he was not aware of the development but commended what rangers had done.CITE

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | Ex-Health minister, Dr Obadiah Moyo was acquitted as a US$60 million trial collapsed, ‘God is faithful,’ were the words he could utter soon after his acquittal.
Dr Obadiah Moyo is a Zimbabwean politician and former hospital administrator. In 2018, he was appointed the country’s Minister of Health and Child Care. On the 19th of June 2020, he was falsely arrested and charged with three counts of criminal abuse of duty as a public officer, for his alleged participation in a scam that involves tens of millions of dollars.
Dr Masimba Mavaza
After spending the night in police cells, he posted $50 000.00 bail. Because of these false allegations which were motivated by Hopewell Chin’ono the president cde Emmerson Mnangagwa dismissed Moyo from the office of Cabinet Minister, removing him for “conduct inappropriate for a Government Minister.
Despite all this Dr Moyo remained a visionary and creative leader with a proven record of accomplishment in both medical and executive management. He is an experienced healthcare administrator who adopts a professional “hands on” approach. He is skilled in problem solving and obtaining achievements by using initiative and drive to gain results.
He is considered as a leading medical strategist in Zimbabwe. He won several international awards in recognition of his contribution to the international society in Nephrology and Pathology.
Through his achievements, he is rated as an eminent strategist in the medical industry in Zimbabwe and the region. Educated in Zimbabwe, United Kingdom and the West Indies, Dr. Moyo earned several academic qualifications and is a registered Renal Specialist, Consultant Chemical Pathologist.
His former experience includes being
• Deputy President of the Health Professions Authority of Zimbabwe.
• President of Health Professions Authority of Zimbabwe.
• Founder member of the World Council for Renal Care, and founder of the Zimbabwe Kidney Foundation Renal Services where he served as the Chairman and Executive Director.
• Chief Executive Officer of Chitungwiza Central Hospital in September 2005 a position he held until his appointment as Minister of Health and Child Care. During this time he received several honours, including in 2018 overall Zimbabwe Businessman of the year, and Zimbabwe Community leader of the year.
• Chairman of Council for the Chinhoyi University of Technology.
With all these achievements Dr Moyo saw his life being destroyed by a Twitter and overzealous ZACC incompetent officers who were interested in humiliating people and get arrests.
ZACC officers have caused more embarrassment to the war against corruption such that many have lost confidence in the ZACC system of operation. The term catch and release was coined because of what ZACC does to the accused without applying the law and due diligence.
Although each arrest has different circumstances, the reaction of family members and friends can be similar.
Arrest is usually the first stage of the criminal justice process it is when the Police carry out the initial questioning of someone suspected of a crime or an offence. In Zimbabwe ZACC has powers of arrest and unfortunately these powers are mostly abused.
The arrest of a loved one can be a very traumatic and difficult time.
Sometimes your loved one is arrested at the family home which can have a major impact on the family members, especially the children. If they witness the arrest, they may feel very anxious and distressed.
When dealing with allegations of criminal offences against persons of public interest there is a need to maintain clear public recognition of ZACC’s independence.
These cases have particular potential for attracting allegations of inconsistency, because the arrested is a high ranking public figure. But behind any public figure there a human being a father a husband a person. It is therefore important to maintain highest standards of decision making, to apply any casework standards at all stages and to ensure that case decisions are consistent with existing procedures. This idea of rushing to arrest because you can is satanic demonic and total inconsiderate.
Concern about cases of wrongful arrests has arisen in Zimbabwe and this is more prevalent in cases involving government officials or high profile persons. Some wrongly arrested individuals have spent many years in mental prisons before their charges are quashed, but little is known about the psychological effects of such miscarriages of justice on them. Substantial psychiatric morbidity and problems of psychological and social adjustment has not been considered in such cases. The difficulties of the wrongly arrested and their families are similar to those described in the clinical literature concerning other groups, such as war veterans, who have been exposed to chronic psychological trauma but the wrongly arrested or convicted do not receive such sympathy. Many people believe that once you are cleared you are fine and you should be happy about that. We always miss the most important and relevant point of the effects of long-term accusations are manifested after release from such charges by court.
Being arrested paraded in every newspaper and become a laughing stock can be an extraordinarily stressful psychological trauma.
False arrest and imprisonment can be an extraordinarily traumatic event.
It is very clearly that there is a serious psychological impairment which follows false arrest and imprisonment.
Although no clear pattern emerges, a common scenario begins with a Twitter purporting to be exposing corruption then a knock on the door and the totally unexpected confrontation with the police waving an arrest warrant for an alleged crime. The individual is summarily arrested, taken into custody, handcuffed and placed in the back of a police vehicle, sometimes in a full view of the international and national and local press.
Following booking and extreme embarrassment, the victim of a false arrest may be placed in jail, unless bail can be posted immediately and release obtained he will be placed in remand prison.
If immediate release is not obtained, the false arrest victim who is often utterly confused and terrified must face the dangers of jail, some of which can be lethal. For example, the risk of suicide within the first 24 hours of incarceration is well known.Fears of physical and sexual assault with the possibility of contracting the HIV virus are very real. If the false arrest victim is alone in a cell, fear and exhaustion may further heighten feelings of isolation, terror, and helplessness. Time sense is often lost a sudden change of environment loss of control of one’s life, even taking a
showers, delousing, being required to wear jailhouse clothes, and inedible food may produce a profound sense of humiliation and threat to one’s personal identity.
Being unexpectedly wrenched from one’s normal, expectable existence and plunged into the sheer terror of imprisonment without apparent reason is a highly traumatic, experience. This extreme, abrupt discontinuity in a person’s life experience is capable of producing psychiatric disorder, particularly dissociative disorder.
The former minister of Health became one of many people who have been falsely accused and arrested for crimes they did not commit. For weeks following the arrest, Dr Obadiah Moyo experiences flashbacks and nightmares of the arrest and incarceration and facing the social court. The flashbacks may occur when someone comes to the front door and knocks or rings the bell or when the news bulletin starts to flash on the Television. Dr Moyo have had a torrid time not wanting to be in the public. Some former friends and neighbors shun him and his family. Despite the fact that he was innocent from the beginning.
Dr Obadiah Moyo is totally exonerated, he feels that doubt has been cast upon his good character.
No one is putting a thought on Dr Moyo’s children who were taunted by some of their peers. Does anyone give a thought on his wife who continues to feel embarrassed and ashamed, avoiding her former friends in the community.
The actual circumstances of the arrest, the trauma to family members who cannot comprehend what has happened, personal embarrassment and humiliation (“treated like a criminal”), adverse publicity, and the incarceration experience itself are significant psychological stressors. The family itself may be so traumatized as to be emotionally unavailable to the arrest victim on his or her release. The problem we face is that To arrest you the police need reasonable grounds to suspect you’re involved in a crime for which your arrest is necessary.
The police have powers to arrest you anywhere and at any time, including on the street, at home or at work. But ZACC officer only need Twitter from Hopewell Chin’ono and a disgruntled permanent secretary to arrest the whole minister and embarrass him without applying the law at all.
After this protracted embarrassment Dr Obadiah Moyo was acquitted by the High Court.
At the start of Dr Moyo’s trial, Justice Pisirayi Kwenda sitting in Harare High Court tossed out the charges. This is what we have been saying all along when this writer said the charges were imprecise and did not disclose a criminal offence.
Dr Moyo was arrested for his alleged dealings with Drax International LLC, Papi Pharma and Drax Consult SAGL, companies, which ZACC claimed were illegally awarded contracts by the health ministry without a competitive tender process.
Another victim of such arrests without investigations Delish Nguwaya, a local representative of Drax International, was arrested as part of the same investigation, but his trial collapsed as well. The Advocate Tawanda Zhuwarara said the charges “could only be described as… inimical to the law, irregular in form and susceptible to impugnment”.
It has always been clear that the charges on “all three counts are not clear on what Dr Moyo did in the awarding of the contracts and which rules he had broken.”
From the beginning it showed that the contracts were done by the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe, and as such Moyo could not be held accountable for their actions.
“The minister was not involved in the decisions,” said Zhuwarara, who asked Justice Kwenda to acquit Moyo.
In a professional manner and true judgeship the judge cornered prosecutor Garudzo Ziyadhuma to explain how Moyo influenced the awarding of the contracts. He also asked Ziyadhuma to explain what the word “influence” means leading to a concession by the prosecutor that the charges were imprecise and badly drafted. The question is why was the case allowed to even go up to the High Court.
Since his arrest, the former minister and former Chitungwiza General Hospital CEO had been frequenting the courts without a trial date being set.
The whole saga to Dr Moyo was
Profoundly terrifying. Deeply shocking. It shook him to the very core and the effects will be with him for a long time. The entire event had started assuming that feeling of unreality that tends to accompany truly bad things. “Was that real? Did that happen? That couldn’t have been real. That couldn’t have just happened to him. There’s no way. Is our country in a hallucinating mood. One of the single worst experiences of anybody’s life – not from an events standpoint or even a consequences standpoint considering that the subsequent court visits were very nearly as shocking, and left him financially devastated. This did not only leave Dr Moyo financially down but emotionally wounded.
Too much power can wreak havoc to an otherwise a better Commission like ZACC. The only way to stop abuse of power is to have checks and balances, there should be checks on how ZACC use their powers of arrest. There should be a section in the Prosecution department telling ZACC that they need a reality check, this is not tyrant ville.
A good organisation can abuse power if they are unaware of the negative effects of their decisions. This is why it is dangerous for any organization with an abuse of leadership to be surrounded only by people who agree with everything that is said and done, not to question logic reasoning from what is right from wrong.
The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission [ZACC] has been outing the government at the receiving end of insults and derision from the general public, which feel it is doing less than it should to contain corruption. In an attempt to strengthen ZACC by giving its officers more powers, on 28th June, the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs gazetted Statutory Instrument 143/2019, the Criminal Procedure and Evidence (Designation of Peace Officers) (Amendment) Notice, 2019 (No. 3) [link], which designates ZACC’s officers as “peace officers” for all purposes under the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act.
SI 143 does not explain the legal consequence of making ZACC officers “peace officers”, and to understand it one must look at the Act under which it was made, the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act.
Peace officers and their powers
The Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act gives law enforcement powers to what it calls “peace officers”, a broad class of officials including police officers, prison officers, immigration officers and traditional leaders. The Act allows the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs to designate other persons as peace officers, and that is what he did for ZACC’s officers in SI 143.
Arrest must be for a proper purpose: Peace officers should not arrest people automatically even if they have reasonable grounds to believe they have committed a crime. Persons may be arrested to ensure they appear in court and stand trial, or to stop them committing a crime or interfering with the evidence. The power of arrest, in other words, must be exercised carefully and reasonably.
ZACC is a constitutional commission and its functions are laid down in the Constitution. It is possible to extend those functions through section 321 of the Constitution, which states that “An Act of Parliament may confer additional functions on a Commission”; but SI 143 is not an Act of Parliament even though it is made in terms of one.
SI 143 is yet another of the statutory instruments published recently to give effect to important government programmes ‒ in this case the anti-corruption drive whose legality is open to doubt. Ministers who need legislation to underpin their policies would be better advised to approach Parliament and persuade it to pass an appropriate Act of Parliament, rather than resorting to statutory instruments which are open to legal challenge.
The behaviour of ZACC has become very intimidatory and totally unreasonable. The ZACC officers must take courses in criminal law before they form a conclusion that a person needs to be arrested. The problem with ZACC is that it is the law unto itself, like any other commission it must not be allowed to be above the law.
Dr Obadiah Moyo was lucky his God was faithful. What about those who are not that lucky. The first step to fight corruption is to train those who will enforce the laws. Emotional arrests and playing to the gallery is satanic. In most cases the unprofessional overzealous ZACC officers descend into the arena and get blinded by the dust of the of the game.

A 16-year-old Bulawayo schoolgirl was shot on the cheek after a police officer discharged his firearm to stop a fistfight between two men in G-Square in Mzilikazi on Monday.
Ayanda Tshuma, a Form 3 pupil at Sobukhazi High School, is admitted to Mpilo Central Hospital .
She was just a bystander. The bullet went through one cheek and exited on the other. A witness said:
There was a fight between Thabani Goredema and Richard Magwenzi, who is a well-known drug dealer in the area. We suspect Goredema works with some police officers because they always come to his house but he is never arrested.
I don’t know why they were fighting, but when the police arrived they handcuffed Richard and started beating him. This incensed residents who asked the officers why they did not arrest Goredema as well.
Ayanda’s relative who requested to be anonymous told ZimLive that police began indiscriminately beating up people who had gathered to watch. Added the relative:
An officer we only know as Shumba fired his gun into the air and people started running all over. When he fired the first shot, one of his colleagues shouted ‘isa panyama’ (put it on the flesh) and the next thing I remember Ayanda was lying down with blood all over her face.
The relative said Ayanda’s mouth was swollen and doctors have recommended surgery after she complained of aching jaws and teeth.
The family said after the shooting, the police officers said they had called an ambulance but none arrived.
They called a friend in Nguboyenja who has a car after realising that the police were not treating the issue with urgency.
The family also made a report of the incident at Mzilikazi Police Station and they called homicide detectives to investigate.
The police officer named Shumba has allegedly offered to pay US$3 000 to Ayanda’s family so that they don’t speak on what transpired. The family says it rejected the money and only wants justice for Ayanda.

Tinashe Sambiri| MDC Alliance official Last Maengahama says he is ready to perform demanding tasks that are in line with his new appointment.
Maengahama was appointed secretary for policy and research by President Nelson Chamisa last week.
Below is Maengahama’s statement:
I am deeply humbled by the deployment to this very crucial and strategic portfolio of policy and research by President Nelson Chamisa and the MDC Alliance party.
This is indeed a huge and challenging task that demands participatory, inclusivity, grassroots and people driven approaches to policy formulation.
Our philosophy is that public policy formulation must be people driven and people centred.
The MDC is a social democratic party whose core values include participation, inclusivity, solidarity, democracy, freedom, equality and justice. The birth of the MDC came out of the struggles of the working people, the women, the urban and rural youth and the students whose future is now more precarious and uncertain.
Policy and research portfolio is the cornerstone of the party as it provides general party policy direction and the framework for the party manifesto and election message and we ready ourselves to govern.
We shall create platforms to dialogue with the working peoples in their communities, the women, the youth, the unemployed, the farmers and the peasants, the civil servants and the business community in urban and rural areas to facilitate their active participation in public policy formulation.
The MDC is the only party that will transform and transfigure Zimbabwe to Democracy and Real Development where every person is accorded an opportunity, without any form of prejudice or discrimination.
We will create an economy, state and society based on the enjoyment of civil, political, social and econimic rights are guaranteed for all, devoid of oppression, exploitation, violence – a free and fair society to humanity!
The MDC is domiciled in the base, the working people and their struggles.

By A Correspondent- President Mnangagwa yesterday capped 385 graduates at Harare Institute of Technology in different disciplines as the institution positions itself to become a national and global powerhouse in innovation, science and technology.
The 385 were conferred with degrees both physically and virtually in line with the need to contain Covid-19 infections.
President Mnangagwa, who is also Chancellor of State Universities capped the 385 who included undergraduate, postgraduate diploma and Master of Technology in Strategy students.
Two best graduates were conferred with the Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa Chancellor’s Award and walked away with US$1 000.
In his address at the 12th graduation ceremony, HIT Vice Chancellor, Engineer Quinton Kanhukamwe said the university had made concerted efforts to contribute to the transformation of the economy through the provision of technology and engineering solutions responsive to the needs and challenges across various sectors.
He said HIT had been marked by unrelenting efforts to stay competitive and remain relevant with extraordinary dynamism and its trajectory had been defined by the need to have clear parameters offering technological and engineering solutions for economic transformation.
“Integral to this process, has been a deliberate and robust staff development programme. This entails the continuous training and retraining of the members of staff to reorient them to our mandate.
“To date, nearly 200 academic members of staff have attained Master of Technology degrees and the University has spent at least US$9 million drawn from internally generated resources to finance human capital development,” said Eng Kanhukamwe.
The institution, said Eng Kanhukamwe, had managed to establish fit for purpose unique departments and programmes allowing it to deliver specialised skills needed for research and development, innovation, commercialisation and industrialisation for the economic transformation of this country.
“I am pleased to advise that HIT has been successful in commercialising its research outputs despite the various challenges that we have been facing in this ongoing process. Some of our schools have contributed to the successful establishment of spin-off companies such as Instifoods, Instichem, Instisoft, Institronics, Instipharm that have operated under the HIT Holdings Company, Institech Holdings.
“The success of the products has been varied across industries but essentially, they are slowly turning into income generating entities for the University,” he said.
The university had come up with projects products and services that addressed problems in different sectors of the economy.
They included grid power optimisation system, cannabis project, production of chrome mills balls, electronic records management system, nanotechnology brick making project and a Covid-19 geotrace system among others. Those conferred with degrees were from the schools of Engineering and Technology, Industrial Sciences and Technology, Information Science and Technology and Business and Management Sciences.
Others included postgraduate diplomas in Medical Ultrasound and Dosimetry and Master of Technology in Strategy. The event was also attended by Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development Minister, Professor Amon Murwira, his deputy, Raymore Machingura, Permanent Secretary, Professor Fanuel Tagwira, the Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Province, Oliver Chidawu, Vice Chancellors of other State universities and senior Government officials.-statemedia
By A Correspondent- The leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) breakaway faction, Lucia Matibenga, has filed an appeal at the Supreme Court challenging the return of MDC Alliance Vice President Tendai Biti and his colleagues to Parliament.
Last month, Justice Joseph Mafusire ruled Biti and five other MPs, who are part of the other PDP faction, and were recalled from Parliament should return as their recalls were unlawful.
The aggrieved MPs, who include, Kucaca Phulu, Settlement Chikwinya, Willias Madzimure, Regai Tsunga, Chelesile Mahlangu had filed a court application seeking execution of Justice Mafusire’s judgment.
They said their order for execution should be granted as the appeal before the Supreme Court did not have the power to suspend the lower court’s order.
However, according to court papers, Matibenga through her lawyer Simon Simango filed a Supreme Court appeal challenging the ruling and effectively suspending its execution.
But the affected lawmakers argue Matibenga’s appeal is invalid.
“The appeal has no merit. The appeal is an abuse of the rule of law and constitutionalism. More importantly, the appeal is an assault on democracy which is protected by the Constitution of Zimbabwe.
“Furthermore, the appeal does not have the effect of suspending the order because it is an appeal against a declarator. In the circumstances, I believe we have shown a good cause for the granting of the order we seek,” reads their application.
The six MPs also argued the court should grant them an order of execution as Simango, Matibenga and Benjamin Rukanda were abusing the law and using the Supreme Court appeal to delay their reinstatement into Parliament.
They demanded the court orders Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda and Parliament to comply with Justice Mafusire’s judgment and reinstate them back into Parliament.
They are also asking that the court declare the High Court order in the present case should remain operative despite any leave to appeal being granted or the successful noting of an appeal at the Supreme Court.
By A Correspondent- Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ) chairperson Tafadzwa Musarara yesterday donated 15 000kg of mealie-meal, 3 000kg of rice and 4 000 loaves of bread towards the Zanu-PF conference to be held at the end of this month in Mashonaland Central province.
Speaking during the handover ceremony in Bindura yesterday, Musarara said GMAZ had always been supportive of Zanu-PF programmes.
“It has become our tradition that whenever our revolutionary party holds conferences, we come in as an industry and players who are beneficiary to the party’s empowerment programmes,” he said.
“We come forward to support this annual event and we believe that our guests who come to the event need to be fed by us.”
The conference fundraising committee chairperson, Lazarus Dokora, hailed GMAZ for donating to the party saying it had lessened food challenges.
“We are very grateful to receive this food donation from GMAZ since our preparations are now at an advanced stage. We have moved a step in averting food challenges. We are still waiting for other players to come up with their donations,” he said.
Dokora told NewsDay Weekender that they are expecting around 245 guests at the conference and the rest will follow proceedings online due to COVID-19 regulations which outlaw huge gatherings.
By A Correspondent- An estimated 1,5 million Zimbabweans are reported to have abandoned life in the city as the country’s economic situation continues to deteriorate.
The International Labour Organisation (ILO) said the deteriorating labour market conditions had forced 1,5 million working age citizens leave urban centres and resettle in rural areas where living conditions are cheap and flexible.
Speaking at the launch of the “Labour Market Diagnostic Analysis” report this week, ILO director in Zimbabwe and Namibia, Hopolang Phororo said labour conditions in the country had deteriorated over the past two years.
“Labour market conditions have continued to deteriorate over the last two years. In 2019, Zimbabwe’s Gross Domestic Product contracted by over 6,5 % due to fiscal consolidation, Cyclone Idai and the devastating impact of a drought that severely affected agriculture and electricity production,” she said.
This is consistent with the net-out migration of 1,5 million people from urban to rural areas throughout the period.”
Phororo said 57% of the working population in Zimbabwe was outside the labor market with the unemployment rate reaching 17% and among those working, 80% were in informal employment.
However, according to the ILO latest report, the agricultural sector created vast employment opportunities for local citizens.
“Going forward, all the fiscal reforms currently underway require allocating resources to fund investment subsidies, active labour market programmes and redistribution arrangements within the social insurance system among other measures,” the report recommended.
By A Correspondent- MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora has threatened to boycott the 2023 election unless President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government implements electoral reforms.
Addressing a Press conference in Harare yesterday, Mwonzora said Mnangagwa last month responded to his plea for dialogue, describing it as a positive development for his push for electoral reforms before the 2023 elections.
Mwonzora indicated that he was confident that his dialogue with Mnangagwa would be fruitful, adding that his party would not participate in the 2023 elections without electoral reforms.
“MDC-T remains committed to dialogue. We are going to push for electoral reforms and we are going to get them,” he said.
“Our mentality is focused on getting these reforms. We know how to get them through dialogue and this dialogue will be inclusive, genuine and unconditional.
“Therefore, with regards to what will happen if certain things do not happen in 2023, we are not able to postulate. We can’t tell which reforms we would be able to get and those we would not have attained.”
Mwonzora’s threats come a week after his national chairman Morgen Komichi called for the suspension of both by-elections and the 2023 harmonised polls to negotiate with Mnangagwa for an inclusive government.
In July this year, Mwonzora met Mnangagwa and his deputy Constantino Chiwenga under controversial circumstances to allegedly push for the suspension of by-elections as well as postponement of the 2023 polls.
Komichi on Sunday said dialogue with Mnangagwa was key to determining the party’s participation in the 2023 elections, arguing that holding elections without reforms was a waste of time.
Ironically, Mwonzora’s legislators are the majority of opposition representatives in Parliament after purging the MDC Alliance members, but his MPs have assisted Mnangagwa make controversial constitutional amendments to assist the ruling Zanu-PF party clamp down on the country’s democratic space.
“We want reforms and then elections. Unlike our colleagues in the opposition who are calling for an election whether or not there are reforms,” Mwonzora said.
“That government has not allowed reforms over some years is not a good enough reason to explain why we should not insist on them. We shall not give up until there are reforms which guarantee secrecy of the vote and security of both the vote and the voter.”
Yesterday, he refused to disclose details of Mnangagwa’s responses to his request for dialogue, saying it was a private matter.
“We will make the substantive matters available at the right time. Right now, we are consulting within the MDC-T structures then thereafter we will consult the people of Zimbabwe, based on what our structures would have said.”
The MDC-T has been under criticism for having a sinister agenda in the postponement of elections.
Observers say they are not prepared for a direct contest with the mainstream opposition MDC Alliance party led by Nelson Chamisa.
By State Media-A Harare-based self-styled faith healer (prophet) says he is sick after he was reportedly forced to drink a client’s urine during a healing session.
Madzibaba Tanya is accusing Madzibaba Steven Muchanyu of using him before duping him of US$5 000 which they had agreed on as his payment.
Madzibaba Tanya told H-Metro that Madzibaba Steven “hired” him to help him heal a client suspected to have come from Zambia seeking help. He said:
Madzibaba Steven looked so desperate when he approached me seeking help. He said he had someone who was coming from Zambia or Botswana not sure who was having problems of pulse beating uncontrollably when driving.
He also said he was having dreams in which every time he dreams of his funeral and wakes up feeling very sick.
So he begged me to help him heal the person and I accepted his request to which we agreed that I would get USD$5000 from the USD$15 000 which the client was to pay.
After five days he told me that the person had arrived but I refused to perform the miracles at his church since he would get the credit.
Madzibaba Tanya added that during the healing session, he was possessed by a strange “foreign” spirit and it was while he was in a trance that he drank the patient’s urine. He said:
I got possessed during the healing process with a spirit that I don’t even understand.
I was told that the spirit wanted me to drink the client’s urine and it was the same spirit that wanted to kill the client.
So I drank the urine in which the client got healed, hana yake yakabva yangoti zii kurova fast kwayaiita and he (client) confirmed that he was healed and was grateful.
Madzibaba Tanya said he had been promised US$15 000 but was surprised to be given US$100 instead of the agreed fee.
He said he needed US$5 000 so that he could find faith healers to heal him as he is now sick and also to be delivered from the alien spirit.
Madzibaba Tanya said that each time “I visit other churches I am told they are seeing death ahead of me due to the spirit which came upon me.”

By A correspondent-MDC-Alliance deputy chairman, Job Sikhala has described as embarrassing, Zanu PF’s catch and release game of own party heavyweights nabbed for corruption allegations.
Sikhala expressed his annoyment this week after the courts’ acquittal of the former Health Minister, Obediah Moyo.
Moyo was facing corruption charges involving millions of United States dollars Covid-19 pharmaceutical tender.
Posting on his Twitter handle, Sikhala questioned who in Zanu PF would ever be convicted of corruption?
Labour Economists and Afrikan Democrats (LEAD) appreciates the State of the Nation Address (SONA) by President ED Mnangagwa yesterday.
We feel that some issues expressed were over exaggerated and thus we respond on the contentious issues raised by the SONA.
We applaud the efforts of road rehabilitation by the government and expect the project to be completed by mid 2022 all over Zimbabwe. Considering that Zimbabwe is a landlocked country, we expect commitment by government to prioritize Rail rehabilitation and restore NRZ to it’s former glory of a fast, efficient and affordable bulk transporter of goods in Zimbabwe.
Rail transport has the capacity to lure the much needed forex if the rail regulations are followed according to the book as was before. Government must desist from appointing political or military people into the rail sector who have no understanding whatsoever about the operations of the once economic giant organization in Zimbabwe.
Expansion of Robert Mugabe International airport and Joshua Nkomo airport is not a priority at the moment. Funds should be injected into the health sector to ensure quality healthcare for all Zimbabweans as enshrined in section 77 of the constitution of Zimbabwe.
For a country with nearly a quarter of the population suffering from chronic diseases priority should be allocation of funds to acquire state of the art machinery for public hospitals like CT scans, radiotherapy machines for cancer patients, dialysis machines, etc for all the referral public hospitals in Zimbabwe.
Commitment by Government of Zimbawe should be on ensuring affordable quality healthcare in all public health facilities and sufficient stock of drugs and essential medical supplies.
Government has collected AIDS levy for decades yet it has failed to ensure total implementation of the new curriculum of education since inception by introducing an education levy. Instead of expanding airports funds should be used to upgrade schools and investing in quality education of all students regardless of background or class in society.
Students in rural and Peri urban areas have been disenfranchised of quality education and prejudiced from knowledge of the new world fundamentals nowadays like ICT. The new curriculum of education made ICT a compulsory subject in primary and high school education yet no investment whatsoever has been made by government to ensure that every government school has a well equipped computer laboratory, qualified ICT teachers and Wifi.
Teachers have complained time and again about shortage and non availability of the new curriculum text books which is making their work a mammoth task. These are the issues we expected the Honorable President Mr. Mnangagwa to address yesterday as they are issues affecting real people and the future of Zimbabwe.
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is good for the country. We reiterate that government should create an enabling environment for Local Direct Investment (LDI). The Ease of doing business should be afforded to local people instead of giving tax exemptions to foreigners who are already milking our country dry. Opportunities for wealth creation should be afforded to native grassroots Zimbabweans first.
President Mnangagwa stated that FOREX rates are stable and we must equivocally respond that, it was a slap in the face for the majority of Zimbabweans who have to endure exorbitant pricing of basic commodities which are pegged on the black market rate by both retailers and wholesalers in Zimbabwe.
The multi currency system has brought immense suffering to the ordinary Zimbabwean who can nolonger transact in local currency because government prefers USD to our local currency, fuel companies prefer to sell fuel in USD other than ZWL, property owners don’t want to be paid in local currency, healthcare providers use black market rate for local currency payments, in short every sector is pegging goods and services using the black market rate which means there is no FOREX stability at all.
The is the real state of the nation Mr President and we should desist from putting lipstick on a frog. Early this year we suggested that USD should be not be used for local transactions and as usual our suggestions fell on deaf ears because the government of the day is out of touch with the lived realities of ordinary Zimbabweans. To LEAD Mr President is to care for the livelihoods of the people you are in charge of as the President of this country. It has been 8 years since the new constitution was enacted and new, not so new, rather old constitution is not being observed as the supreme law of this land.
We honestly can’t speak of government being committed to aligning laws with the constitution of Zimbabwe 8 years later. The cabinet, Parliament and Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary affairs are sleeping on laurels.
We demand the issue of alignment of laws to take precedence as a lot of people are being prejudiced by the inconsistent laws in this country. Indeed GMB must pay farmers on time. We condemn the paltry rates being paid by GMB to farmers and implore the relevant authorities to revise the rates of grains and stop shortchanging farmers.
Condemnation of drug abuse is not enough Mr President. The way forward to help and save our youth is to establish public and affordable drug rehabilitation centres in all the ten provinces to save our youth. Chrystal methamphetamine (Mutoriro) should be criminalized and made illegal as soon as yesterday.
Mutoriro is now a deadly pandemic in our country which has also increase crime rate as young people addicted to this deadly drug end up involved in crime to get funds to sustain this vice. Lastly, there is little effort to ensure gender balance .
Saying that government is committed to ensure gender equality is an understatement as it is not visible practically in all organs of the state, public sector, boards and parastatals. We demand gender equality to be a reality as it is a constitutional provision which should be adhered to. Mr President, your predecessor the late former President Robert Gabriel Mugabe left a legacy of educating Zimbabweans and taking back land.
What will be your legacy? What are you going to be remembered for? Make Zimbabwe comfortable for all Zimbabweans.
Restore the dignity of all workers and be sincere in curbing corruption which is an evil that has destroyed the economy and potential of our great nation.
By A Correspondent- Grave diggers at Bulawayo cemeteries are overwhelmed and the council has proposed that mourners do the back-filling of the graves while it recruits more staff.
According to the latest council minutes, health services director Edwin Sibanda also revealed that Athlone cemetery was fast filling up, while Luveve and Umvutcha still had each a lifespan of 10 years.
The minutes also revealed that bodies repatriated from South Africa were topping the list of people recently buried in the city, while in July alone, the cemeteries had 269 bodies of people who died due to COVID-19.
“The committee considered the matter and councillor Joyce Ndlovu sought clarification on the number of mourners allowed per burial in the city’s cemeteries,” part of the minutes read.
“In view of recent relaxation on COVID-19 regulations, Joyce Ndlovu noted that cemetery staff was overwhelmed by grave back-filling and more mourners were allowed.
“Maybe consideration could be given to allowing the mourners to do the back-filling.”
The minutes further read: “Athlone West Cemetery recorded burials from outside the city as follows: South Africa 15, Botswana 1, Plumtree 1, Bubi 2, Matopo 1, Gweru 1, Marondera 1 and Umguza 2. Luveve Cemetery recorded burials from outside the city as follows: South Africa 9 and Umguza 2.
“Two hundred and sixty nine COVID-19 related deaths that occurred in the city were buried at our cemeteries during the month of July 2021. All the burials were supervised.”
The council minutes also stated that a total of 20 cremations — seven males and 13 females — were carried out during the month.
“Councillor Felix Mhaka enquired if the council had enough burial space for the future. The chairperson councillor Sinikiwe Mutanda supported the council to continue with 30 mourners per burial as COVID-19 was still a reality and needed to be controlled.”
In response, town clerk Christopher Dube advised that human capital development had undertaken a work study and the number of cemetery staff would be increased.
“A detailed report would be submitted accordingly. It was prudent for the council to continue with 30 mourners per burial at the city’s cemeteries so as to ease congestion. Currently, funerals were considered as super spreaders for COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, the city was operating three cemeteries, namely Athlone extension, Luveve and Umvutcha,” reads the minutes.
“Athlone was fast filling up. However, the other two had enough burial space that could last the city 10 years each. Pumula South and Marvel cemeteries had also been gazetted. Marvel Cemetery was awaiting the construction of a railway level crossing bridge.-newsday
By A Correspondent- Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe’s efforts to keep ZANU PF Mashonaland Central Province under his belt are under threat amid fierce competition from former Minister of Education, Lazarus Dokora.
Kazembe has fallen out of favour in his Province and is now trying every trick to serve his dying political career.
This comes after the Minister hijacked a program which was supposed to be done by Zanu PF conference fund raising chairman Dr Lazarus Dokora and Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe(GMAZ) chairman Mr Tafadzwa Musarara today
GMAZ donated 15 000kgs mealie meal, 4000kgs rice and 4000 loaves of bread and Kazembe Kazembe has since claimed credit even if he is not part of the fundraising committee which is led by the Former Minister Dr Dokora who is also eying the provincial post.
Sources close to this publication revealed that Kazembe Kazembe was seen running around like a headless chicken just to attract recognition as he had seized to exist in most of his clansmen political lenses. The embattled minister even told the media that he was the supper provincial chairman whilst Dokora was only conference chairman.
ZANU-PF members who were present including acting ZANU-PF youth league chairman Nheta were not happy with the presence of Kazembe in the fundraising committee.
Kazembe Kazembe is also accused of sending thugs to burn Tafadza Musarara’s trucks in 2018.
By A Correspondent- A haulage truck driver was on Tuesday arrested for setting an empty fuel tanker on fire after selling the precious liquid.
Donald Daniel (28), who was detained at Southerton Police Station was arrested by detectives following a review on the vehicle tracker.
Daniel stands accused of draining the fuel from the truck in Kuwadzana and drove an empty truck to Chinhoyi where he allegedly set it on fire.
Andrasdon Investments, where Daniel works, wrote a letter of remission of duty application for petrol lost in transit to Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) Chirundu Station Manager. The application letter signed by MacDonald Nehanda read:
Andrasdon Investments is applying for the remission of duty on petrol that was lost.
Our tractor unit and tanker were also destroyed on the 29th of September 2021.
The transit load was coming from Beira going to Lusaka.
The driver left Willowvale Truckstop Harare around 6 pm on the 28th of September saying he was going to sleep at Banket in the Chinhoyi area before curfew.
Upon review of lorry movements based on our vehicle tracker, I have noticed the vehicle was driven to an address near the roundabout of Glen Eagles and Bulawayo Roads.
The driver arrived there around 6:45 pm and the lorry was parked in that yard until 11 pm.
The driver then proceeded to leave that address just before 11 pm and claimed our lorry exploded with fuel in it at the Chinhoyi area.
I suspect it was already empty given the four-hour time he was parked near Glen Eagles Road and Bulawayo Road roundabout.
I also suspect the ZIMRA seals were already compromised by the time the lorry was set on fire.
ZIMRA officials have already attended to the scene.
We are appealing to your office for remission of duty as the product was not consumed by us and based on the driver’s movements and communication that night I am convinced it was foul play.
H-Metro reported sources close to the company as saying that Daniel was aware that the tracker was yet to be paid for and the truck owner rushed to clear the bill following the mishap.

By A Correspondent- The MDC Veterans Activists Association( VAA) has declared that ZEC is an extension of Zanu PF following its failure to carry out duties and programmes objectively.
The association accused ZEC of attempting to subvert the will of the people by excluding the MDC Alliance from key meetings.
Read full statement below:
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has proved Beyond reasonable doubt that it is indeed a player and referee in the Zimbabwean political field by denying the MDC Alliance a chance to be part of the ongoing stakeholders consultations.
ZEC has not only proved that it is an extension of ZANU PF but has also proved that it is not credible to run free, fair and credible elections.
ZEC’s conjoined relationship with ZANU PF is no longer questionable as the ZEC Spokesperson clearly spelt out the Commission’s quest to be guided on whether to invite MDC Alliance to these consultations or not by unnamed authorities outside the ZEC hence jeorpadising its independence.
Commissioner Joyce Kazembe’s brazen attempt to steal the elections again will not go unchallenged. Her naive allegation that ZEC does not know who the MDC Alliance is is not only stupid, lame and an expose’ of ZEC’s partisan conduct of national elections but also an expose’ of how Elections are stolen. This is the beginning of their devilish journey to steal the people’s will again. As peace loving citizens we shall resist such unlawful and biased conduct by the ZEC.
The MDC Alliance is the biggest opposition party in the nation hence barring it is tantamount to playing and refereeing at the same time.ZEC must not be an interested party in the fights currently obtaining in the Zimbabwean politics.
If ZEC is to hold stakeholders consultations then all stakeholders should be consulted. It must not be selective in choosing stakeholders as this will be met with resistance by all progressive forces.
Zimbabwe is for all of us and we should build it brick by brick together as a citizenry not as blue eyed boys of the dictator.
We demand impartiality and independence in ZEC’s conduct so that we build a better Zimbabwe together. We will not accept an extension of Zanu pf to masquarade as ZEC. The people,s power must guarantee the independence of ZEC, as well as protection of votes in order to guarantee free, fair and credible elections. Disputed elections are a liability to sustainable development.
ZEC must not only retract its statement but should be disbanded for being partisan, selective and a threat to future free, fair and credible elections.
By A Correspondent- Talent Dzitiro from Entumbane suburb in Bulawayo is reportedly demanding his lobola money back from his girlfriend.
This comes after his girlfriend Lwazi Mhlanga leaked her own nudes on Facebook.
Dzitiro who could not fathom the thought that everyone was getting a glimpse of her naked body on Facebook decided to demand his lobola money back.
A local tabloid reports that the matter only came to light after Mhlanga approached Magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube seeking a protection order against Dzitiro who had threatened to kill her.
Mhlanga told the court that after Dzitiro discovered that she posted her nudes on Facebook last week, he lost his temper and threatened to kill her.
“My ex-boyfriend threatened to kill me last week. He forced me to board a commuter omnibus and took me to a lodge. He locked me inside and threatened to kill me. When we left the lodge he took my bag so that I would not leave him. He later locked me inside his house until I was rescued by the police,” Mhlanga said in her application.
Mhlanga claims that Dzitiro visits her workplace and embarrasses her. In addition to that, she revealed that he sends her nasty audios and messages. Mhlanga said she now fears for her life as he threatened her with some unspecified measures.
She pleaded with Magistrate Ncube to order Dzitiro not to come to her place of residence and not to threaten or assault her.
In his mitigation, Dzitiro refuted claims that he threatened to kill her arguing that he only reprimanded her for posting nudes on Facebook.
He, however, revealed that after the discovery, he has no plans to pay off the lobola balance, instead, he now wants his lobola money back.
“I am opposed to the application. It is the first time that I’m hearing that I’m her ex-boyfriend. The thing is I always reprimand her about her style and her dressing. Recently I reprimanded her for posting nudes on Facebook.
When I met her she had a child and I paid the bride price. I was supposed to pay off the balance soon. I want my bride price money back.”he said
Presiding over the matter, Magistrate Ncube ruled in Mhlanga’s favor. He ordered Dzitiro not to threaten Mhlanga anymore and not to communicate or visit her place of residence.
By A Correspondent- A Dangamvura couple has known no peace in their home since the wife bought her husband a smart phone as they are constantly bickering over the gadget.
So bad are the squabbles that they degenerate into fights, resulting in the wife confiscating the phone she had bought for her better half as a present.
This emerged at the Mutare Magistrates’ Courts where Takazvida Chakwanda had dragged her husband, Simbarashe Mutore accusing him of bashing her.
Mutore appeared before Mutare provincial magistrate, Mr Langton Mukwengi facing physical abuse charges.
Ms Tafadzwa Chiwanza prosecuted.
A remorseful Mutore admitted assaulting his wife, and pleaded with the court for leniency.
He also begged his wife for forgiveness.
“I am at fault, Your worship. I wronged my wife, and may she, please, forgive me. It was only out of anger that I acted that way because she had taken the phone I was now using for business as well as chatting with my relatives.
“This will never happen again,” he said.
Mutore promised that he will not let things get out of hand again over the phone.
His wife expressed disappointment with how he was misusing the gadget as she claimed Mutore was now in the habit of flirting with other women on the phone.
“I am the one who bought him that phone as a present, and I was bitter to see him chatting with his girlfriends on social media platforms.
“He even saved their pictures in the phone, and I decided to confiscate it.
“This did not go down well with him, and he assaulted me,” said Chakwanda.
Mr Mukwengi fined Mutore $10 000 or 20 days in prison for physically abusing his wife.

By A Correspondent- Former Mayors have formed a coalition against the MDC-Alliance ahead of the 2023 elections.
The newly formed grouping, the Former Mayors Association of Zimbabwe, comprises former mayors and councillors from all over the country’s towns and cities which were controlled by the once-vibrant opposition MDC since its formation in 1999.
Most of these former city fathers have since joined Zanu PF.
Some of the mayors and councillors who talked to Zimeye.com said they were frustrated by how the Chamisa led MDC treated them.
” We have seen that the new crop at MDC-Alliance is not accommodative. They want docile people who can not ask them where they would have gone wrong. The leadership wants bootlickers who ululate mediocrity. For that reason, they have dumped all the founding party members and go for the Mafikizolos they can control,” said one of the former mayors.
” We decided to move on with our political careers out of this clueless opposition which does not have new ideas of taking over power. They just oppose the government just for the sake of opposing without giving practical solutions. As experienced politicians who have a history of serving the people, we have seen it prudent to join the government,” said another former Mayor.
Farai Nyandoro
The Association’s spokesperson, the former Marondera Mayor, Farai Nyandoro, confirmed the existence of their coalition.
” We are mobilising all former mayors who served under the original MDC and they are all responding very well. The Association aims to help the government with our experience of running the affairs of the towns and cities. We started this initiative with 20 members (former mayors), and now the membership has ballooned to over 100,” said Nyandoro without commenting on the anti-Chamisa plot.
However, Madzibaba Steven disputed the allegations, accusing his erstwhile friend of unspecified action. He said:
I have issues with this man. We used to pray together before I left him over his conduct of getting drunk whilst at the shrine.
He would also sleep with married women in the bushes, so he is trying to tarnish my image so that my church collapses. He is lying.

By A Correspondent- Six Chinese nationals have been burnt to death in a mining gas explosion in Mazowe.
The six died with other two locals following an explosion of gas cylinders in a blast furnace in two separate incidents on Wednesday and Thursday.
The blasts occurred at SAS Mine, Lowdale, under Mazowe Rural District Council where seven people, including six Chinese died on Thursday night with another miner having died the previous day.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi yesterday confirmed the deaths saying: “The Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating the circumstances in which six foreign nationals as well as two Zimbabweans died after some gas cylinders exploded at SAS Mine, Lowdale on October 7, 2021.” Mines and Mining Development Deputy Minister, Polite Kambamura, and Mazowe South Member of Parliament Cde Fortune Chasi visited the site together with other Ministry of Mines officials who were conducting preliminary investigations. Deputy Minister Kambamura said they ordered the temporary closure of the mine following the first incident on Wednesday to pave way for investigations.
“Unfortunately, the mine management defied that order and continued to work, leading to the loss of more lives on Thursday,” he said. Cde Chasi said according to reports, a 21-year-old man died on Wednesday at the mine after an oxygen tank he was trying to open exploded. “Unfortunately, yesterday another gas tank exploded killing six Chinese workers and one Zimbabwean worker. In total eight people died at the mine. The situation at the mine is tense and workers are traumatized by the event,” he said. The Herald visited the mine and spoke to witnesses who narrated the horrific incidents. It was all gloomy as workers were trying to come to terms with the tragic event, with body parts of the deceased being taken to a local mortuary.
The gate to the mine was locked with a number of security guards manning the area.
One of the workers who witnessed both incidents and asked for anonymity for fear of victimisation, said the first victim who died was a youth who had just started work a few months ago. “He had just married and his wife is pregnant. He went near the blast furnace around 6pm and in line with his everyday duties, he tried to open a gas bottle and it then exploded. “We heard a loud sound and we are still in shock. We just saw some body parts strewn all over the place. It was quite scary for those of a nervous disposition as all his body parts were contained in a plastic bag,” said the worker. Another worker said the death of the seven occurred the following day in almost a similar manner. “Unfortunately on this fateful day, most workers including myself were defying orders to work. We were still traumatized by the death of our colleague the previous day. “However, as fate would have it, some insisted that they wanted to go inside and work. Around 7pm while workers were changing shifts, we heard an unusual loud bang. Little did we know that more colleagues had perished,” said the worker.

By A Correspondent- MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora has made another public President Emmerson Mnangagwa endorsement.
Mwonzora endorsed Harare on Friday during a press conference when he demanded the West remove sanctions against the Zanu PF government.
“Our position as the MDC-T is that we support the international re-engagement of Zimbabwe with the international community. Zimbabweans must actively participate to ensure that these measures are removed. We have been under sanctions for over two decades, the lives of the Zimbabwean people have not improved, the economic system has not improved, the social system has not improved; therefore, we think that the sanctions are not working,” Mwonzora told journalists in Harare Friday.

Makhadzi made his maiden perfomance in Zimbabwe this week when he serenaded guests at Secretary for Finance George Guvamatanga’s lavish birthday party.
The Murahu hitmaker appears to have fallen in love or music promoters may have realised Zimbabweans hunger for Makhadzi after his post announcing his journey north of Limpopo attracted interest from thousands of people who wanted to know the venue of the show.
Below is Makhadzi’s poster with a list of shows she has lined up before the end of the year.

The Continuous Assessment Learning Activity (CALA) has turned into a cash cow for teachers who are being paid to award more marks to candidates, while others are writing coursework on behalf of pupils, The Manica Post has established.
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, through the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC), introduced CALA this year as a candidate assessment procedure that requires pupils to perform, demonstrate their knowledge, understanding and proficiency in their learning areas before the main exam.
Under the regime, ZIMSEC candidates’ academic aptitude is assessed continuously (coursework) to contribute 30 percent to their final marks.
Summative or knowledge skills assessed during examinations contribute 70 percent to the candidate’s final grade.
External candidates wishing to sit for their exams this year have to approach their examination centres for assessment.
However, a two-week investigation by this newspaper into how CALA was being implemented in schools revealed that rogue elements within the education sector were charging varying amounts to candidates willing to get high coursework marks.
Apart from being paid to award more marks, some teachers were being paid to write the coursework on behalf of candidates.
During the investigation, this reporter negotiated and paid US$10 to a Grade Seven teacher at a Sakubva school to write the coursework for a candidate purported to be under his (the reporter’s) guardianship.
BUHERA – Headman Neshava (Janson Mubaiwa) from Buhera is headed for a fierce clash with village head Simon Chimhau who he accuses of hiring tsikamutandas into the area and using them to extort subjects.
Neshava told Chipinge Times that he wants Chimhau fired for the alleged crimes and has written a letter to the District Development Co-ordinator (DDC) who has the powers to initiate the firing of errand traditional leaders.
Headman Neshava accused Chimhau of bringing tsikamutandas from as far as Harare and using them to terrorise and extort villagers. The tsikamutandas accuse villagers of practicing witchcraft and then order them to pay hefty sums of money, heads of cattle or goats to be exorcised.
Chimhau confirmed that tsikamutandas were causing havoc in his area but refuted allegations that he was involved.
Buhera DDC Freeman Mavhiza said it is a crime for tsikamutandas to go around witch hunting and called on headman Neshava to make an immediate report to the Police.
He said he was also going to call the headman over the issue and tell him to make a report to Police.
“I however, have not yet received Neshava’s letter but I must emphasise that what the tsikamutandas are doing is a crime and they must be reported to the Police at once.
MASVINGO – Justice Garainesu Mawadze, a senior High Court Judge surprisingly sidelined in recent Judiciary service promotions narrowly escaped death on Friday when he was involved in a horrific road accident.
Judiciary Service Commission (JSC) secretary, Walter Chikwanha confirmed the accident which happened at around 7pm, 20km from Zvishavane along Masvingo – Zvishavane Highway.
He crashed into a herd of cattle that suddenly appeared in the road and hit five of them, said sources. The herdsmen allegedly ran away and disappeared into the darkness.
His E300 Mercedes Benz was reduced to a heap of metal.
Chikwanha told The Mirror that Mawadze who is based at the High Court in Masvingo was coming from a business trip in Zvishavane going back home. He was alone in the car.
Justice Mawadze declined to comment and referred questions to Chikwanha. The Mirror however, understands that Mawadze is recuperating at home.
Efforts to get a comment from Midlands Police Spokesperson, Emmanuel Mahoko were futile.
In terms of the law, Mawadze who is now the most senior Judge at the High Court was supposed to automatically assume the position of acting Judge President when the incumbent Justice George Chiweshe was elevated to the Supreme Court two months ago.
He was sidelined in flagrant disregard of the law and the development caused public outcry both in and outside the legal fraternity.
Mawadze was also overlooked when the President eventually made the substantive appointment for the post.
“The Judge was coming from a business when he was involved in an accident, 20kmfrom Zvishavane.
I talked to him an hour before the accident. It came as a surprise to me when I learnt that he had been involved in an accident.
“I can’t say what he was doing in Zvishavane as you know judges visit courts for different reasons including assessing or holding workshops. All I can say is he was on duty,” said Chikwanha.
By A Correspondent| Man of the moment, Tinashe Mugabe popularly known as the DNA Man has shot down claims by popular comedienne and her accomplice Tanaka Dube who alleged that the DNA Show concept was stolen from them.
Tanaka Dube and Madam Boss went public claiming that they had a meeting with Mugabe over a show they wanted named Baba Ndiani alleging that the DNA man then took it and implemented it as his own.
According to Dube, after meeting Mugabe, they proceeded with plans for the show only to find out that he was already doing it,
“Tinashe Mugabe stole our DNA paternity show Baba Ndiani months after we approached him for a collaboration. Madam Boss was supposed to host the show, we even had a meeting with her at Rainbow Towers pertaining to the show, the show was created by Rumbidzai Chihera Mambokadzi, myself, Nomagee Sibanda, and Munya. We were still working on the show when we found out that Tinashe was already doing it without us yet we had discussed it with him. Recently we tried having a meeting with him and he kept on post posting and surely it’s not good that one person capitalizes on other people’s ideas, he could’ve at least told us before producing the show,” said Dube.
Madam Boss responded to Dube’s post confirming that indeed Mugabe stole their show.
“Tanaka Vibes Dube I remember kuti maive nemapurisa team yema therapist and also accommodation for vanenge vanzi chibva pano nemwana wako.
“You had huge plans
“But nevertheless ngatiitei jika majika,” said Madam Boss.
But Mugabe shot back saying;
Its like you have been driving a Toyota wish all along (4 years) contemplating to upgrade into RANGE ROVER VELAR. Then start making some savings towards the purchase. Then booom, a complete stranger inbox a proposal to you saying, “DNA MAN can you bring your VELAR savings & WISH value and put all these resources together & bring it so we give all to a certain person (celebrity), one way or the other you might have the opportunity to ride on the VELAR when she’s around. The DNA MAN declines and even refuse to give audience to the stranger and went ahead to buy the VELAR that he’s riding on these days. Now the stranger bounces back and say that VELAR is mine and the DNA MAN stole it from me…THE ALLEGED PROPOSAL IS EXCLUDED AS HAVING ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE CLOSURE DNA SHOW, THE PROBABILITY OF RELATEDNESS IS 0%…MUCHISHONA TIRIKUTI HAPANA KANA CHENYU MU SHOW IYI… SAKA AMAI, baba ndiani

AT least 27% of young people in Zimbabwe aged 15 to 24 are suffering from depression, some of it caused by COVID-19, a research conducted by the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) has revealed.
A report, titled The State of the World’s Children 2021-On My Mind-Promoting, Protecting and Caring for Children’s Mental Health, which was released on Wednesday, listed Zimbabwe as one of the leading five countries out of 21, whose young people suffer from depression.
About 20 000 people aged 15 to 24 and older people aged up to 40 years were part of the sampled population in the research conducted between February and June 2021 in Zimbabwe and 20 other countries.
Cameroon was adjudged as the country with the highest number of youths suffering from depression at 32%, followed by Germany, France and the United States at 24%.
Unicef said the COVID-19 pandemic hardships had exacerbated mental disorders among the youth and urged governments to put in place measures to promote good mental health among children.
“Children around the world have been locked out of classrooms, sequestered in their homes, and robbed of the everyday joy of playing with friends, all consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic,” the global children’s organisation said.
“Millions more families have been pushed into poverty, unable to make ends meet. Child labour, abuse and gender-based violence are on the rise. Many children are filled with sadness, hurt or anxiety.
“Some are wondering where this world is headed and what their place is in it. The COVID-19 pandemic has raised huge concerns for the mental health of an entire generation of children. But the pandemic may represent only the tip of a mental health iceberg — an iceberg we have ignored for far too long.”
It is estimated that globally, more than 13%, which is about 166 million adolescents aged 10 to 19, live with a diagnosed mental disorder, as defined by the World Health Organisation.
Unicef identified poverty as a critical social determinant of mental health that shapes the lives of children and their caregivers.
“Children’s and young people’s mental health is forged by experiences and environments. It is moulded in the world of parents and caregivers, of communities and schools, and of poverty, conflict and diseases,” it said.
“At critical moments of child development, these experiences and environments can harm mental health. Or they can be shaped to promote and protect it. Poverty can also have a profound psychological impact on children’s and adolescents’ capacity to seek opportunity and realise their dreams. The amount of exposure to poverty also matters. Indeed, the longer a child lives in poverty, the greater the risks to mental health.”
Unicef said there was an urgent need for investment in child and adolescent mental health across sectors to promote access to mental health.
Three MDC Alliance activists, who were arrested and arraigned before the courts for criminal nuisance, were yesterday acquitted by Harare magistrate Barbara Mateko.
Kudakwashe Butau, Ngonidzashe Mupumba and Patrick Shumba were acquitted at the close of the State case, while another opposition activist, Vongai Tome was put to her defence.
When Tome, a senior MDC Alliance official was arrested in April this year, she complained that she had been fondled by a police officer who was trying to disperse party youths gathered at the court premises in solidarity with convicted party member, Makomborero Haruzivishe.
But she was picked by the police together with Butau, Mupumba and Shumba and charged with disorderly conduct.
Her application for discharge was dismissed by Mateko at the close of the State case.
In her ruling, Mateko said two police witnesses testified saying Tome had insulted them on the day in question.
Thandekile Moyo, the Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association official said it was unnecessary for the police to discharge a gun on defenceless residents.- Zimlive
Ideas Party of Democracy leader, Herbert Chamuka has embarked on a food distribution drive to marginalised communities in an effort to end hunger for people in need.
Chamuka’s party has, throughout the COVID-19 induced lockdown, been parcelling out relief funds meant to help the seriously affected people, particularly in the Matebeleland regions.
Speaking from his base in South Africa, Chamuka said the drive is born out of the need to ensure that no family goes hungry during this time.
“During the COVID-19 era, we have helped people financially, our party doesn’t have much but it managed to help people financially and we are giving people food, as of now we have a lot of food in Chitungwiza that we are giving people in the few days to follow. We are also giving food in Matebeleland North and South provinces as well as Masvingo,” Chamisa said.
He dismissed that the food distribution is part of vote-buying, which is synonymous with politicians during election time.
According to the World Food Program, more than four million Zimbabweans are in need of food aid as the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic kick in.
Meanwhile, the IPD party is set to be launched officially in Zimbabwe, adding to the already ballooning number of opposition parties in the country.
In the past month, three new political parties emerged which challenged the ruling party and the leading opposition party, MDC Alliance, led by Nelson Chamisa.
Chamuka declared that his outfit is confident of upsetting both Zanu-PF and MDC Alliance parties in the 2023 elections.
“In December we will launch our party and manifesto hence we urge you to attend. The congress will also show you our MPs.
“We believe that the IPD is a party with the potential to win the elections because since we started, our party is in the top three. We want to free Zimbabwe through elections, not through violence so we thank our supporters who have heeded our call to remain civilized.
“Since we started we don’t have any people that have been arrested, beaten or beat other people. Our party is of maintaining democracy, what we teach the people in our party is democracy so if we win the elections, we want to show Zimbabwe what democracy is because since 1980 our party is the first one to bring democracy,” Chamuka said.
Dynamos Football Club chairperson Bernard Marriot Lusengo, who is being accused of fraud after allotting himself 51% shareholding of the popular club, has indicated he wants to approach the Constitutional Court for recourse.
Lusengo, whose lawyer Hebert Mutasa was barred from representing him, has since hired prominent advocate Tawanda Zhuwarara to fight for the reinstatement of his lawyer.
Zhuwarara said he would file the written court application by October 5 challenging the removal of Mutasa from representing Lusengo.
The application followed last week’s ruling by magistrate Barbara Mateko that Mutasa was conflicted as he had represented the club at the time the offence was allegedly committed.
Prosecutor Tapiwanashe Zvidzai consented to respond by October 12 and on October 15, there will be oral submissions.
Lusengo is being accused of fraudulently allotting himself 51% shareholding without a board resolution.
Mutasa is said to have played a role in the distribution of shares without a board resolution.
The prosecutor said in 2010, Dynamos Football Club through its management held a meeting to look into the share allotment issue and approached a law firm where Mutasa is a partner.
He further said Mutasa was then nominated to represent the club.
Magistrate Mateko ruled in favour of the State.
The complainant is Dynamos Pvt Limited represented by Robinson Rundaba, head of directors at the company. Lusengo is one of the directors.
It is alleged that sometime in 2008, Dynamos Pvt Ltd’s subsisting articles of association was replaced through a special resolution.
The net effect of the articles of association was to allocate shares to people who were active members of the club between 1963 and 1968.
This was in accordance with the recommendations of the Sports and Recreation Commission. A three-member committee was set up to look into the issue of allocation, payment, distribution and issuing of share certificates.
The committee consisted of Rundaba, Lusengo and Casper Muzenda.
However, the committee never met to deliberate on the allocated task and the allocation of shares and issuance of certificates was not done.
The issue was never revisited, but the agreement on allocation of shares for beneficiaries still stands.
Sometime in 2019, Rundaba received a call from one Chitambo of Sakunda Holdings advising him that Lusengo had approached their company seeking sponsorship for Dynamos FC and that he was claiming to be the sole owner of the club.
Rundaba allegedly then convened a meeting with Chitambo in the company of Simon Sachiti and one Nyamandwe in which Chitambo claimed that Lusengo had retracted his earlier claim and was now saying he owned 51% of the company shares.
Lusengo’s claim to Sakunda Holdings that he was the sole owner of the company prompted Rundaba to make a police report.
Investigations revealed that Lusengo had awarded himself majority shareholding in the club without the knowledge or approval of Rundaba.
The State alleges that Lusengo’s conduct could cause a potential prejudice of 51% shares to Dynamos. The CR14, CR2 and articles of association for Dynamos will be produced in court as exhibits.- NewsDay
Opposition MDC-T president, Douglas Mwonzora has reinforced calls for the removal of sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by western countries saying they are being used as scapegoat for incompetence and looting.
Mwonzora said this during a press briefing at the party’s headquarters in Harare earlier today where he was reacting to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s State Of The Nation Address (SONA).
The Manicaland senator said Mnangagwa’s call for the removal of sanctions was welcome as the restrictive measures were being used as a scapegoat for incompetence.
“We believe that Zimbabwe’s international isolation must now be removed. This international isolation is not benefitting the people of Zimbabwe. Rather, it is benefitting the very people targeted by the sanctions. Sanctions as things stand, give a ready explanation for people to explain away their incompetence,” Mwonzora charged.
He added that sanctions have made Zimbabwe’ systems non-transparent, as people are smuggling minerals out of the country under the guise of busting the embargo.
The United States and the European Union (including the United Kingdom) imposed sanctions on top Zanu PF officials and companies linked to the government over alleged human rights abuse and disregard for rule of law.
Mwonzora urged government to work on issues behind the sanctions saying only positive movement in terms of addressing human rights issues and rule of will the sanctions be removed.
“We support the international reengagement of Zimbabwe with the international community. But this reengagement on the part of the international community must be matched by an equally positive movement on the part of Zimbabwe in instituting key social, political and economic reforms.”
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed that the club will move to a different home venue for one year to allow redevelopment at Nou Camp.
The planned works will begin in 2022 and will involve expansion of the sitting capacity from 99,000 to 110,000 spectators and refurbishment of the club store and museum at the stadium.
The Nou Camp redevelopment will cost Barca €1.5bn ($1.74bn) and the club is in talks with investment bank Goldman Sachs to finance the project.
Speaking on Catalan radio Rac1, Laporta said they are considering using the Johan Cruyff Stadium. The venue is currently where Barcelona Women play their home matches.
“We are considering different possibilities, but the strongest candidate is the Johan Cruyff Stadium.”
The other option is Montjuic Stadium. The municipal facility hosted the opening ceremonies of the 1992 Summer Olympics and was home to Barcelona’s cross town rival Espanyol for several years.
“(The new Camp Nou) is fundamental for the viability of the club and its immediate future,” Laporta added. “The impact it will have for Barça is critical so that we can compete with our competitors who have already done what is needed.”

High Court judge Justice Tawanda Chitapi has dismissed bribery charges levelled against property developer Felix Munyaradzi.
Munyaradzi, who is chief executive officer of Delatfin Civil Engineering, had been accused of bribing Thomas Mabgwe of the Zimbabwe Republic Police with residential stands to avoid prosecution over alleged offences involving land.
But Justice Chitapi ruled that Munyaradzi did not commit any crime as alleged.
“It is ordered that the decision of the magistrate in September 2020 under CRB 108/20 be and is hereby reviewed and set aside,” Chitapi ruled. “The placement of the applicant on remand be and is hereby revoked on the basis that the facts as presented by the State do not constitute a criminal act.”
The State had alleged that Mabgwe, who is attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters, was allocated two residential stands in Sandton Park, Mt Hampden, Harare, in September 2015 to cover up Munyaradzi’s alleged illegal land deals.
Mabgwe was later arrested on the same charges, but the High Court, in granting him bail also stated that the offence was not clear.
Justice Pisirayi Kwenda said: “In my view, the allegations of bribery are far-fetched. The facts as presented to me are weak and the trial court ought to have taken that into account.
“I am satisfied that the trial court misdirected itself in failing to appreciate that the allegations did not disclose the offence. I am not told that the appellant was investigating the Delatfin matter nor was the CID. I do not see how in the circumstances there would be any need to bribe him.”
The State had alleged that Mabgwe was given a bribe by Munyaradzi in his capacity as Delatfin CEO to protect the businessman from pending criminal charges.
Chitapi, however, said it was the duty of the State to prove that Munyaradzi committed the offence and in this regard, the State failed.
“The applicant has no onus to prove anything,” Chitapi ruled. – Newsday
Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ) chairperson Tafadzwa Musarara yesterday donated 15 000kg of mealie-meal, 3 000kg of rice and 4 000 loaves of bread towards the Zanu PF conference to be held at the end of this month in Mashonaland Central province.
Speaking during the handover ceremony in Bindura yesterday, Musarara said GMAZ had always been supportive of Zanu PF programmes.
-Newsday
Tinashe Sambiri| MDC Alliance vice chairperson Hon Job Sikhala has described the Zanu PF leader Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s State of The Nation Address(SONA) as a compilation of high- sounding empty words.
According to Hon Sikhala, Mr Mnangagwa is clueless, hollow and hopeless.
Hon Sikhala also said he has since stopped listening to Mr Mnangagwa’s speeches.
“I was phoned by one of the journalists asking me about Mnangagwa’s SONA?
I wondered whether people still have got time to listen to Mnangagwa. I don’t have time to listen to that dude.
POLICE in Chivhu, Mashonaland East province, allegedly tortured and killed a woman whom they accused of concealing money stolen by her sister, the Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) has claimed.
In its latest report titled It’s Politricks All Over, ZPP adjudged the police as the major perpetrators of human rights violations that occurred in Mashonaland East in September.
ZPP alleges that Sharai Mukaro was allegedly tortured by police officers during interrogation on September 12, 2021.
ZPP said a medical report showed that she suffered internal bleeding around her heart and that could have resulted in her death.
“Police officers were among the main perpetrators of human rights violations that occurred in Mashonaland East. The police were perpetrators of 40% of the human rights violations that ZPP recorded this month. In one of the cases, police officers in Chivhu in Chikomba district tortured a woman to death during interrogations on September 12.
“She was suspected of withholding money allegedly stolen by her younger sister who had been arrested in Harare. According to an autopsy shown to the ZPP, the deceased, Sharai Mukaro, suffered massive pericardial clot, had large amounts of blood in the upper mediastinum (which contains the heart, thymus gland, portions of the oesophagus and trachea, and other structures) and had raptures in the area of the aorta,” the ZPP report read.
The human rights organisation said there was no record of any disciplinary measures taken against the killer police officers.
“This conduct by the police is of great concern and the ZPP continues to demand that police conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with their constitutional mandate and should be able to handle arrested persons without using unconstitutional means such as torture. This is not the first case of people dying at the hands of the police.
“ZPP calls on the police to act within their mandate when dealing with suspects. The Constitution clearly outlines the procedures to be undertaken during the investigation of a crime. Torture should be a punishable crime and we call on the Home Affairs ministry to ensure that perpetrators are brought to book in order to infuse confidence into the criminal and justice system of the country.”
Previous reports by ZPP show that for the past two years, police have been the leading human rights violators in the country.
The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights has threatened to pursue the matter and have the culprits brought to book.

Tinashe Sambiri|The MDC Veterans Activists Association( VAA) has declared that ZEC is an extension of Zanu PF following its failure to carry out duties and programmes objectively.

Armed robbers pounced on a Mukuru branch (money transfer agent) at Rutenga Growth Point in Mwenezi, Masvingo and robbed US$10 000 after forcing an employee to open a safe at gunpoint.
The unidentified two suspects descended on N&R Wholesalers at the growth point which houses a Mukuru branch and looted cash after firing two warning shots into the air to scare away employees on Wednesday afternoon.
The suspects also got away with two Mukuru Samsung phones worth ZW$40 000 and also lifted the N&R Wholesalers till where they got away with nearly US$2000 and over ZW$21 000.
Police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said the suspects first clapped a Mukuru customer who was being served by a teller at the Rutenga branch Mr Wayne Mugwagwa after entering the shop.
One of the suspects allegedly jumped into a booth and took two Mukuru phones before force-marching Mr Mugwagwa to the safe at gunpoint.
Mugwagwa allegedly opened the safe and one of the suspects took US$10 000 and 110Rands.
The suspect then proceeded to the N&R Wholesalers till and ordered Ms Constance Tsopo, a till operator to lie on the ground facing downwards before looting US$1795 and ZW$21 460 in cash.
Inspector Dhewa said after the robbery, the suspects bolted out of the shop and sped off in their unregistered Toyota Probox vehicle.
Police suspect that the vehicle might be one stolen last month in the Bikita armed robbery in which a mushikashika driver was shot and seriously injured before being robbed of cash and his Toyota Probox.- The Herald

By A Correspondent| High Court Judge, Justice Tawanda Chitapi has ruled that the magistrates court grossly misdirected itself by placing land developer and businessman, Felix Munyaradzi on remand.
In acquitting Munyaradzi, Justice Chitapi said the lower court grossly misdirected itself by making a finding that there was a nexus between the Munyaradzi and the alleged offense.
“The learned magistrate grossly misdirected herself by making a finding that Delatfin Civil Engineering Pvt Ltd to the applicant in circumstances where it was the company that dealt with Thomas Mabwe and as such criminal liabilities could not be attributed to the applicant,” said Chitapi.
Chitapi further stated that the lower court grossly misdirected itself in making a finding that the conduct of the applicant gave rise to reasonable suspension that he had committed an offense.
Munyaradzi was arrested by the police last year and brought to court for his initial remand on 2 September 2020.
The circumstances surrounding the matter were that Munyaradzi bribed a police officer Thomas Mabwe by awarding him two residential stand so as to ‘gain protection in return’.
Munyaradzi was accused of dishing out residential stands and double allocation, offenses he allegedly committed as the Chief Executive Officer of Delatifin Civil Engineering Pvt Ltd.
When Munyaradzi appeared for his initial remand, he challenged his placement on remand saying the allegations levelled against him did not raise a reasonable suspicion that the he committed an offense.
Warriors Players Now In Camp For Epic Duel With Black Stars
All the players in the Warriors squad to face Ghana in the World Cup Qualifiers tomorrow are now in camp after Brendan Galloway and Teenage Hadebe joined their teammates on Thursday.
The duo failed to arrive in Ghana on time after facing visa issues and missed the team’s first training session.
The Warriors are camping in Cape Coast, about 150 km out of capital city Accra.
Meanwhile, the national team will hold a training session at the match venue, Cape Coast Stadium, tonight.
The kick-off for the game is at 6 pm Zim/CAT.
Goalkeepers: Washington Arubi (Marumo Gallants), Martin Mapisa (Zamora CF), Talbert Shumba (Free State Stars).
Zimbabwe has been removed from UK’s coronavirus red list just days before the national team host Ghana in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
The Warriors face the Black Stars in Harare on 12 October, and there have been fears that the England-based stars in the squad would miss the encounter due to regulations required on all players visiting red-listed countries.
The quartet of Marvellous Nakamba, Tendayi Darikwa, Brendan Galloway and Jordan Zemura was allowed to travel for the game but under some expensive arrangements.
Zifa then decided to drop them for the Harare game.
But after the UK government confirmed the removal of Zimbabwe from the red list starting from 11 October, there is now a possibility that fully vaccinated players might come for the game without facing these regulations.
However, this would only be based on whether English clubs will also revise their travel regulations on players released to countries removed from the initial red list ahead of the current international break.
An update posted by the UK government reads: “Zimbabwe Will move off the red list at 4 am Monday 11 October. If you arrive in England before then, you need to follow the red list rules.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

By A Correspondent- A video of a top Zimbabwe government official has gone viral after he promised to pay South African artists 5 times what they had billed him for performing at his birthday party.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, George Guvamatanga hired top SA artists Makhadzi and Mafikizolo to perform at his lavish 50th birthday party celebrations.
The private party was held at the exclusive Padonhodzo events venues in Sunninghill, Harare.
The South African artists performed so well, that the Permanent secretary felt compelled to be generous and declared that he would pay 5 times what they had charged.
We publish reactions to the video …..
The Decor lights on that video are not very Bright because of the So-called Sanctions targeted on Zimbabwe. Not to mention the poor Camera taking the video, results of sanctions too.
The trouble with the Zimbabwean Govt is that they’re prepared to host lavish parties & pay foreign artistes in forex, even to the extent of multiplying the invoiced bill by 5 – out of “generosity” BUT they pay teachers slave wages in RTGS.

Mr Mukwengi fined Mutore $10 000 or 20 days in prison for physically abusing his wi

By A Correspondent| Harare Magistrate Barbra Mateko on Thursday 7 October 2021 set free two Harare residents who had been on trial on charges of disorderly conduct for allegedly chanting a slogan while attending a court session for pro-democracy campaigner Makomborero Haruzivishe in April 2021.
The two Harare residents Ngonidzashe Mupfumba and Kudakwashe Butao, who were out of prison custody on bail, had been on trial after they were arrested on 6 April 2021 and charged with disorderly conduct as defined in section 41(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
During trial, prosecutors alleged that Mupfumba and Butao, who were represented by Gift Mtisi of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, engaged in disorderly conduct by chanting a slogan “Ahoi Macomrades, Ahoi” outside Harare Magistrates Court after attending a court session for Haruzivishe and where some police officers were attempting to disperse people.
But Magistrate Mateko on Thursday 7 October 2021 discharged Mupfumba and Butao at the close of the prosecution case and ruled that State witnesses contradicted each other glaringly in their testimonies during trial and failed to corroborate each other’s evidence.
A suspected serial rapist, who terrorized female commuters using a Toyota Wish vehicle, appeared in court yesterday facing new charges of escaping from lawful custody after he escaped from the Harare Remand Prison on October 1 with the assistance of prison wardens.
Sam Muropa (31), who appeared before magistrate Barbara Mateko, pleaded guilty to escaping from lawful custody. He said his brother organised his escape.
He did not disclose who assisted him, but it is believed that two prison officers have been arrested for allegedly facilitating his escape.
Muropa is also facing theft of a motor vehicle, an offence he committed after escaping from lawful custody.
It is alleged that on August 16 this year, Muropa appeared at Harare Magistrates Court facing several counts of rape and armed robbery and was remanded in custody at the Harare Remand Prison, where he was committed to D Class.
But on October 1, at around 6:45pm, Muropa unlawfully escaped from custody and the offence was discovered on the same day during a physical count of inmates.
Detectives from CID Homicide Harare received information on the whereabouts of the accused, leading to his arrest in Kuwadzana, Harare.
It is alleged that on October 6, the accused person made indications at Harare Remand Prison on how he escaped from lawful custody and a video footage of the indications will be produced in court as exhibit.
Bruce Mupotsa is the complainant in the theft of the motor vehicle.
It is alleged that on October 5 at around 7pm, Mupotsa parked his unregistered white Toyota Wish vehicle at Kuwadzana 2 shopping centre where he was having drinks.
During that time, Muropa approached Mupotsa and requested to hire his car to pick up his girlfriend. Muropa requested to charge his mobile phone in the car. Mupotsa handed him the car keys and he sat on the driver’s seat charging his phone. He, however, closed windows, started the vehicle and sped off.
Muropa was spotted in Kuwadzana driving the vehicle, leading to his arrest.
He ordered Dzitiro not to threaten Mhlanga anymore and not to communicate or visit her place of residence

By A Correspondent- Zanu-PF Mazowe district is yet to complete internal elections amid a number of challenges which include improper party cell structures, lack of resources as well as alleged manipulation of the process.
The elections, which began a fortnight ago, are yet to be finalised in Mazowe and Bindura districts due to alleged factional fights.
Mazowe district co-ordinating committee (DCC) spokesperson Kushinga Dutiro confirmed the development, blaming a shortage in human resources for the delay.
“It is true that elections in Mazowe are still on-going,” Dutiro said.
“This is because the constituency is very big. We have four constituencies in Mazowe, yet Bindura, which is supervising the elections, has got only two, hence human resource shortage is the biggest challenge.
“We also have other challenges such as fuel shortages. As Mazowe, we had to give people in Bindura fuel to come and conduct elections, but when we went to Guruve, we used our own fuel. So as a district, we are sponsoring two districts on logistics.”
Dutiro said they were taking their time on Mazowe West constituency, which was always a problem constituency due to the polarisation of supporters alongside two camps led by Home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe and Tafadzwa Musarara, who is the DCC chairman.
“We also have challenges with Mazowe West where party supporters are divided and the cell structures are not proper, hence as DCC, we want to perfect it and avoid the chaos that always comes from the divided supporters. We are uniting them. Since we are looking at five million votes as a party, it takes time to preach this gospel of peace.”
In some parts of Mazowe that conducted their internal elections, most of Kazembe’s backers allegedly lost.
The delay, according to some supporters, is to allow manipulation of the polls by Kazembe’s camp. Kazembe is battling to retain the provincial chairmanship in elections to be held at a date to be advised. He will likely to battle it out with Musarara and businessman James Makamba.
“In areas where elections were held in Mazowe North, Central and South, Kazembe’s camp lost. Kazembe’s camp is sponsoring the chaos being witnessed in the district that has resulted in some delays. The camp is plotting manipulation of the vote to regain lost ground.” Kazembe has denied leading a faction.
By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s office yesterday denied reports that Sakhile Mnangagwa, who was duped of US$68 000 in a car importation deal, was linked to the First Family.
Presidential Communications permanent secretary Regis Chikowore accused the country’s three local dailies of linking Sakhile to the First Family without “verifying facts”.
“The Office of the President and Cabinet is dismayed by a malicious story appearing in three of our local dailies today linking the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, ED Mnangagwa, to a court case in which the president is not a respondent,” Chikowore wrote.
“The said story directly links one, Sakhile Mnangagwa, involved in the case to the First Family, creating an erroneous impression that the First Family is vicariously answerable. This is outright malice. If the three dailies had bothered to verify their facts as they should always do before going to print, they would have not dragged the First Family into the said court case.”
In the court case, Sakhile also gave his home address as Lot 1 Sherwood Block, Kwekwe. It could not be established if it is the President’s Sherwood Block’s Precabe Farm.
In January, he was also named as the President’s son in a case in which a Harare man attempted to bulldoze through Beitbridge Border Post claiming he was running errands for “Sakhile, President Mnangagwa’s son”.
