Harare, Zimbabwe, 16 July 2024 – In the wake of the recent attack on former United States President and presumptive Republican Party Presidential Candidate, Mr. Donald Trump, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has expressed profound condolences and solidarity with the United States.
In an official statement addressed to U.S. President Joseph Biden, President Mnangagwa conveyed his heartfelt sympathy and condemnation of the violent incident, which resulted in the loss of life. “Zimbabwe followed the news of the attack on the former United States of America President and presumptive Republican Party Presidential Candidate, Mr. Donald Trump, with shock and revulsion,” Mnangagwa stated.
“On behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Zimbabwe, and indeed on my own behalf, I wish to extend to you, my heartfelt sympathy and condemnation of the cowardly attack, which also led to loss of life,” the statement read.
The Zimbabwean leader emphasized the nation’s solidarity with the United States during this challenging time. “We stand in solidarity with the Government and people of the United States in the wake of this unfortunate and tragic development.”
Furthermore, President Mnangagwa extended his wishes for a speedy recovery to Mr. Trump and others who were injured in the attack. He also expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. “We wish the former President and the others who were injured, speedy recovery, and express our condolences to the family of the deceased.”
The letter, signed by President Mnangagwa and dated July 16, 2024, underscores the Zimbabwean government’s commitment to condemning acts of violence and supporting international peace and stability.
By Farai D Hove | ZimEye | Harare, Zimbabwe — In a twist that underscores the contradictions and ironies in Zimbabwe’s legal and political landscape, convicted fraudster Wicknell Chivayo remains a free man despite facing serious charges of money laundering and election rigging. Chivayo, who should be in jail awaiting prosecution, is living his life unfettered while his close associates, Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu, are currently on trial.
The scenario takes a more bizarre turn with Chivayo’s recent social media activity. Instead of maintaining a low profile, he has posted an old video of Chimombe during the funeral of Chimombe’s mother. In the video, Chivayo lavishly praises Chimombe, sentiments that seem more fitting for the departed matriarch. This act of misplaced adoration has sparked outrage and bewilderment, as many believe such accolades should be reserved for the grieving family and the deceased.
Chivayo’s freedom is particularly contentious given his involvement in the 2023 elections, where he is accused of corporately embezzling over USD 100 million. The elections were marred by allegations of corruption and irregularities, with Chivayo and his co-accused, Scott Sakupwanya, at the center of the controversy. As the state attempts to build its case, Chimombe and Mpofu were expected to be key witnesses, providing critical testimony against Chivayo and Sakupwanya.
However, the government’s efforts to bring Chivayo to justice appear inconsistent and selective. While Chimombe and Mpofu face the judicial process head-on, Chivayo continues to evade incarceration, raising questions about the efficacy and impartiality of the legal system. The situation has not only highlighted the deep-seated issues within Zimbabwe’s judiciary but also cast a spotlight on the intricate web of political connections that seem to shield influential individuals from accountability.
Chimombe and Mpofu’s trials are ongoing, with both men staunchly defending their innocence. Their testimonies could potentially unravel the complex mechanisms of election rigging and financial misdeeds that have plagued Zimbabwe’s political arena. Yet, the man at the heart of these allegations, Chivayo, appears unperturbed, engaging in public displays of camaraderie that starkly contrast with the gravity of his alleged crimes.
Critics argue that Chivayo’s continued liberty undermines the rule of law and sets a dangerous precedent. It suggests that those with sufficient influence and resources can maneuver their way out of legal predicaments, leaving their less connected associates to bear the brunt of the legal repercussions. This perception of judicial bias and selective justice erodes public trust in the system and fuels cynicism about the possibility of genuine reform.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the public and international observers watch closely, hoping for a resolution that upholds justice and accountability. The outcome of Chimombe and Mpofu’s trials, alongside any future actions against Chivayo, will be pivotal in determining whether Zimbabwe can overcome its reputation for legal and political inconsistencies.
In the meantime, Chivayo’s audacious social media antics serve as a stark reminder of the disparities in how justice is administered, and the ongoing struggle to achieve transparency and fairness in the face of entrenched corruption and influence. Video:

England’s 58-year wait without a major trophy might as well extend to the sixties as they lose a second consecutive EURO final
Spain have kept a 100% record all tournament long having won all their matches, they also boast of the tournament’s joint top scorer Dani Olmo (3) as well as top assister Lamine Yamal
Coincidentally, Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz also won the Wimbledon men’s final against Novak Djokovic on the same day!!
Spain are the first team to be crowned European champions four times having won in 1964, 2008, 2012 and 2024.
By Dr. Masimba Mavaza | Political violence is a barbaric crime that is never excused. The media has made it appear as if political violence is embedded in the fabric of Africa. The assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump on a Sabbath has reopened several closed files. It is surprising but true that there have been multiple instances of political violence targeting U.S. presidents, former presidents, and major party presidential candidates in America. Despite the notion that the United States is the most peaceful nation when it comes to elections, the reality is different.
Many assassination attempts, both successful and unsuccessful, were motivated by a desire to change American government policy, but in most cases, they were driven by hatred against the other candidate. This is often sponsored by opposing political parties, whether in power or seeking it. Not all such attacks, however, had political reasons, at least in America. Many attackers had questionable mental stability, and a few were judged legally insane. The Congressional Research Service reports that direct assaults against presidents, presidents-elect, and candidates have occurred on at least 15 occasions, with five resulting in death.
Donald Trump was shot by a gunman during a campaign rally on Saturday in what the FBI called an attempted assassination. Trump survived the attack but appeared to have a wounded ear. Four U.S. presidents have been assassinated while in office:
Abraham Lincoln: Killed in 1865 by John Wilkes Booth at Ford’s Theatre in Washington.
James Garfield: Shot in 1881 in Washington at a train station and died of his wounds two and a half months later.
William McKinley: Assassinated in 1901 by an anarchist in Buffalo, New York.
John F. Kennedy: Killed by Lee Harvey Oswald in 1963 in Dallas, Texas, as he rode in a motorcade.
Three presidents were wounded but survived assassination attempts:
Donald Trump: Grazed by a bullet during a campaign speech in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
Ronald Reagan: Shot in 1981 outside the Hilton Hotel in Washington but survived.
Gerald Ford: Survived two assassination attempts in 1975 without being hurt.
Theodore Roosevelt: Shot in the chest in 1912 while campaigning in Milwaukee but survived.
The history of political violence has long disgraced the United States. Ironically, America has given itself a peacemaker’s title and tries hard to lecture democracy to other countries. This year, America sanctioned the Zimbabwean president, his wife, and security chiefs, accusing them of fanning hatred, intimidation, and political violence in Zimbabwe. One wonders who will sanction Biden for the violence exhibited against Trump. Mr. Trump has suffered a lot of victimization, and if this were in an African country, the case would be considered political violence. In Shona, there is a saying that translates to “Roasting is best done by the mother; the child will extinguish the fire.”
When violence occurs in America, it is given a different name. Surprisingly, there are Zimbabweans like Dzvokora in America, Shepard Jail Guard Yuda in the United Kingdom, and an insulting moron known as Baba Chipeneti who glorify the evils of the USA. Elections for a new president in Zimbabwe are often described as chaotic by the media, but contrary to outside impressions, data point to a largely peaceful situation. Zimbabwe is a more peaceful country regarding elections. The press’s noise shows a horrible bias against Zimbabwe.
The Zimbabwean elections in 2023 had very little violence. In relative terms, Zimbabwe is as safe as heaven. Different organizations and unbiased researchers show a down slope in political violence incidents in July, ahead of the elections. Over the past year, there was a weekly average of just four events, about one-fifteenth as many as Somalia, an African country of similar population size mired in conflict. This annual average is less than one-hundredth of the crisis events experienced by some of the world’s most conflict-stricken countries like Ukraine, Myanmar, Israel/Palestine, and Mexico.
Most incidents of violence occur in densely populated areas, which are often opposition strongholds in one-party states. So what you have effectively is street gangs going at it alongside some heavy-handed police activity. In Zimbabwe, the police are not the most efficient at it. Zimbabwe is a very political place with lots of rallies, street engagement, and political parties. People talk about politics openly, almost like a sport, compared to truly totalitarian countries.
In African countries with a history of friction with the West, violence seems to be a constant fear during elections. It is true that fears of violence in Zimbabwe are far greater in people’s minds in the West than in-country. They’re exaggerated. This week in the United States, a former president narrowly escaped death. More people are killed in a bar in the USA than during an entire election period in Zimbabwe. Yet, these places are spoken about differently.
The controversy over the late arrival of some ballot papers was a storm in a teacup, affecting a small number of voting districts. The attempted murder of Trump is more significant than the issues in Zimbabwe.
Political violence in the USA started with the murder of Abraham Lincoln in 1865. The 16th president was the first to be assassinated, shot by John Wilkes Booth on April 14, 1865. His support for Black rights has been cited as a motive behind his killing.
James Garfield, the 20th president, was the second to be assassinated, six months after taking office. He was shot by Charles Guiteau and died after several weeks.
William McKinley, the 25th president, was shot in Buffalo, New York, in 1901 and died from his wounds.
John F. Kennedy, the 35th president, was fatally shot in Dallas in November 1963. His assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald, was arrested but killed before trial.
Gerald Ford, the 38th president, survived two assassination attempts in 1975. Ronald Reagan, the 40th president, was shot in 1981 but recovered. Theodore Roosevelt, running as a third-party candidate, survived an assassination attempt in 1912.
Other notable attempts include:
Franklin D. Roosevelt: Targeted in 1933, but the shooter killed Chicago Mayor Anton Cermak instead.
Harry S. Truman: Survived an attack in 1950 at Blair House.
George W. Bush: Survived a grenade attack in Georgia in 2005.
Presidential candidates have also been targeted, such as Robert F. Kennedy, killed in 1968, and George C. Wallace, paralyzed from a 1972 shooting.
These assassinations and attempts highlight the contrast between Zimbabwe and America. ZANU-PF is much stronger than the opposition, and public life in Zimbabwe is not tightly controlled, with no consistent repression or overt violence. In Zimbabwe, violence is generated by those with something to lose. ZANU-PF’s real worry is internal dissension and rival elites creating gangs or militias, which they police internally.
In all this, Zimbabwe is far better than America in terms of political violence.
Kigali, Rwanda — Rwandan President Paul Kagame has once again secured a resounding victory in the country’s presidential election, according to preliminary results released late Monday evening. With 79% of the ballots counted so far, Kagame has garnered an overwhelming 99% of the vote, the country’s electoral body announced.
Kagame, who has been a dominant political figure in Rwanda since 1994, achieved a similar landslide victory in the 2017 election. As polling stations opened at 7 a.m. local time on Monday, voters queued up patiently, eager to exercise their civic duty. By 3 p.m. local time, polling stations had closed, and the vote counting process commenced.
Across the East African nation, more than nine million people were registered to vote in this election. The high voter turnout and smooth voting process were noted by many. Barimukije Pheneas, casting his ballot at the Rwandexco polling centre in Kigali, expressed his support for the 66-year-old incumbent. “We voted smoothly without any crowding, and we are happy,” Pheneas said. “I voted for Paul Kagame because he has achieved a lot for us; he united us.”
Motorcycle taxi driver Karangwa Vedaste described the voting process as calm and peaceful, though he chose to keep his vote private. “I voted for a leader I trust. The one I voted for is a secret in my heart. We will share it when he wins,” Vedaste told Reuters.
Kagame’s two opponents in the race, Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party and independent candidate Philippe Mpayimana, were among the only eight applicants approved to run. However, the outcome of the election was largely anticipated, given the historical context and the banning of Kagame’s most prominent critics by Rwandan courts.
The preliminary results mirror the 2017 election, where Kagame similarly dominated with nearly 99% of the vote. This latest victory reinforces his longstanding grip on power, continuing his leadership that has spanned three decades in various capacities.
As the final counts are awaited, Rwanda and the international community watch closely to see the final confirmation of Kagame’s continued presidency. The results, while not surprising to many, reflect the president’s enduring influence and the country’s political landscape under his administration.- Agencies
The recently published Auditor General’s report has once again confirmed that our country is being ruled by parasitic elites with neither love nor care for the positive transformation of the suffering people’s lives.
That millions of public funds can be so brazenly looted and misused in a country grappling with over 70% of accute poverty, high levels of indebtedness, food insecurity, underdevelopment, poor public services & de-industrialisation, is treasonous & a flagrant violation of our constitution that envisages Zimbabwe to be a genuinely developmental constitutional Republic.
The AG’s report once again confirms that Zanu has no capacity to govern Zimbabwe productively, legitimately & in line with the principles of good governance enshrined in our constitution’s founding values. The AG’s report should make every Zimbabwean angry and demand that this so called second republic together with its cheerleaders and funders must go. The AG’s report demonstrates that so long as Zanu is in government, Zimbabweans must forget about the progressive realisation of socio-economic rights codified in our constitution.
Our country is being looted in broad day light and as citizens we must take a stand and collectively solve this mess and crisis of leadership.
Controversial ZANU-PF figure Killer Zivhu has urged opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa to form a church or align with ZANU-PF.
Zivhu has also claimed that the opposition is significantly compromised.
“Opposition members, wake up! Three-quarters of your leaders are on the payroll and not genuine. Consider why there are ‘coups’ after elections—new parties emerge, and leaders are ousted.

Highlanders completed a league double against rivals Dynamos, beating them 2-0 in the Castle Lager Premiership Matchday 18 encounter played at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.
Bosso, who won the first leg 2-1, cruised to victory in the return fixture courtesy of McKinnon Mushore and Godfrey Makaruse’s goals.
The first half had a pacey start, with both teams taking chances to attack in the opening minutes.
Bosso received the first goal opportunity in the third minute but Melikhaya Ncube dragged his effort from a free-kick wide.
Mushore followed up a few moments later but was denied.
Dembare’s turn came up with a couple of threats towards the quarter hour mark, with Sydney Urikhob causing all sorts of problems from the left flank.
Temptation Chiwunga had a chance at goal during the same period and failed the reach the target.
After several attempts from both sides, Mushore finally broke the deadlock on the 24th minute and put Highlanders ahead.
In the following moments, the hosts were subdued and didn’t show any intention of recovery, except for Urikhob’s two successive efforts which yielded nothing.
The game went to the break with Highlanders in the lead.
Dynamos started the second half dominating the pace and created a couple of chances but lacked precision, while Bosso keeper Reward Muza denied them in some opportunities.
The visitors later settled and started retaining some possession. They doubled the lead on minute 75 through Makaruse’s effort.
Dynamos failed to recover in remaining minutes of the game and lost the match.
BERLIN, July 14 (Reuters) – Spain’s Mikel Oyarzabal scored four minutes from time as they capped a dominant Euro 2024 campaign with a deserved 2-1 win over England in Sunday’s showpiece for a record fourth title and condemned their opponents to a second straight final defeat.
Oyarzabal finished off a swift counter-attack for the winner after England had fought back from a goal down for the fourth successive match and seemingly earned extra-time.
“I have done my job,” said Oyarzabal, who came on for captain Alvaro Morata after 67 minutes. “Just the fact of being in the 26, you value it a lot. It happened to me but could have happened to anyone.”
Spain manager Luis de la Fuente added: “I couldn’t be happier. A real team, European champions. I said I was proud and today I am even prouder. It confirms what we are. For me, they are the best in the world.”
After a cautious first half where Spain had 65% possession but England’s Phil Foden managed the only shot on target, the Spaniards struck two minutes after the restart, despite losing influential midfielder Rodri to injury at the break.
Teenager Lamine Yamal, who had been shackled completely in the first half, finally found space down the right and crossed for Nico Williams to slot home past goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
Spain then enjoyed a purple patch with a series of sharp attacks as England’s previously watertight defence lost its shape and Dani Olmo, Morata and Williams all had good chances.
England manager Gareth Southgate sent on Ollie Watkins, the scoring substitute hero of the semi-final, for an ineffective Harry Kane after an hour, with Cole Palmer, England’s most creative player in the last month, joining him 10 minutes later.

South Africa- The new Democratic Alliance (DA) Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber has launched a crackdown on ‘illegal’ foreigners employed in the country.
Schreiber says he would step up inspection teams and deploy them at various businesses across the country, targeting restaurants, spaza shops, farms, and mines, to identify and take action against those found to be illegally employed.
Schreiber says the government will focus on deporting any individuals discovered to be working in South Africa without the proper legal authorisation or documentation.
Said Schreiber:
In the coming year, Home Affairs will increase the number of inspections at restaurants, spaza shops, farms and mines by over 50% to take action against people illegally employed, including through deportations.
South Africa is grappling with a concerning issue of illegal immigration and the employment of undocumented foreign nationals within its borders.
Reports suggest that tens of thousands of illegal immigrants are currently engaged in various sectors of the South African economy, despite the clear prohibitions outlined in the country’s Immigration Act and Employment Services Act.
The Department of Home Affairs has emphasised the responsibilities of employers in this matter. Businesses are required to make a genuine effort to verify the immigration status and work authorisation of their foreign employees.
This includes checking for valid work visas or permits through the appropriate channels, as well as conducting regular immigration audits to ensure compliance.
Failure to meet these obligations can result in significant penalties for employers. Under the existing legal framework, those found in violation of the Immigration Act may face hefty fines or even imprisonment.
By Dr. Raymond Chamba |President Trump will win this election by a landslide. He was poised for a win based on normal election metrics of who is energized to vote. The party that’s out of power is naturally more energized, and the cultural and historic shifts/issues make it even more so.
After the attempted assassination, he is unassailable on the march to the White House. If he sounds tempered down in his Republican Party nomination speech, he will attract more undecided voters while galvanizing the Republican base to come out in numbers for November. While it was originally an election, President Trump has now been selected by destiny to take charge.
This he shall do whether the deep state likes it or not. It’s one of those situations where they will have to strategically live to fight another day, another election cycle. NATO, DOJ, FBI, and the other alphabets are due for a major cleanup. Though he survived the bullets, in the minds of Republicans and other fair-minded people, he has already attained rock star and martyrdom status.
Much as this makes no outward sense at all, because it’s America, nothing ever does in this great land of some very sick people. My strongest analysis is that there will be another attempt on him, the other guy, or any of the top congressional contenders. We have entered into a new season of “gun-manship,” and copycats are always an American staple. We pray and trust that it will be alright, as what happens here affects everything, everywhere.
This is America. No person was born better primed for this intrigue than Donald Trump. It’s not like old times, but sure is great show-time. For a political P.T. Barnum like him, this represents a divine expansion of the stage. Out of this may emerge a new person, a greater statesman allowing America to lead more again and avoid the rush to the precipice of internecine cultural wars and the close economic disaster they naturally torment and foster.

Today, I met with President Presidente Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique and President Mokgweetsi E. K. Masisi of Botswana in Maputo to sign a historic tripartite agreement for the Techobanine deep water port.
This US$6.5 billion project includes a port in Mozambique’s Matutuine District and a 1,700km railway linking Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Botswana.
This agreement is more than just an infrastructure project; it embodies the broader regional integration dream of widening mutually beneficial investments and promoting intra-regional trade.
Together, we are laying the foundation for a stronger, more connected Southern Africa.
In a strategic political gambit, Zanu PF’s Masvingo Province has officially urged President Emmerson Mnangagwa to pursue a third term in office.
This resolution comes in the wake of Mnangagwa’s recent statements suggesting he would not seek re-election, a claim many view as a political ploy.
During an inter-district meeting held last week, Zanu PF National Political Commissar Munyaradzi Machacha committed to presenting the province’s position to Mnangagwa.
The appeal reflects growing support within the party for the president’s continued leadership, highlighting internal dynamics as the nation prepares for future elections.
The Masvingo Province’s endorsement could be seen as a calculated effort to consolidate power and rally support around Mnangagwa, particularly as his administration faces mounting challenges.
Observers note that this push may also aim to project a sense of unity within Zanu PF, countering any narratives of discontent or division.
As Zimbabwe’s political landscape evolves, the province’s plea underscores the intricate dance of loyalty and ambition within Zanu PF, setting the stage for potential shifts leading up to the next electoral cycle.

By A Correspondent | London, UK – In a remarkable stroke of luck, Mungwaru Nyakupinda, a Zimbabwean national based in the UK, has won a lottery windfall of £167,728.20. The ecstatic winner, a subscriber to ZimEye, shared his thrilling story with our team.
“First and foremost, I would like to thank Karma,” Nyakupinda began. “On Tuesday, 9 July, I went into Sainsbury’s to buy some stuff, and I had £3 change, so I asked for a lottery ticket. I played online, so I forgot about this ticket.”
It wasn’t until a recent visit to the same Sainsbury’s that Nyakupinda rediscovered his forgotten lottery ticket in his wallet. “Yesterday, I was in Sainsbury’s again, and I saw the ticket in my wallet. I asked the shop assistant to check it. I heard the sound a winning ticket makes, but the slip said, ‘Return ticket to owner and owner needs to call the national lottery.'”
Nyakupinda decided to wait until he was home and relaxed before checking the ticket himself. The suspenseful wait proved worthwhile when he discovered his significant win. “I won £167,728.20,” he announced, clearly still in disbelief.
In a jubilant message, Nyakupinda also took the opportunity to address a past slight. “If anyone knows Kerina Mujati, who once insulted me that Mungwaru doesn’t have a car, well, I have more money than Skomota,” he quipped, adding with a laugh, “Will be laughing all the way to the bank.”
This unexpected windfall is sure to bring significant changes to Nyakupinda’s life, and his story is a testament to the unpredictable nature of fortune.
Don’t suffer for selfish leaders; join ZANU-PF or a church to save yourself,” Zivhu stated over the weekend.
Fraud charges against Tanya Rushesha, the 35-year-old daughter of Defense Minister Oppah Muchinguri, have been withdrawn. Rushesha avoided a court appearance after reaching a settlement with her accusers.
By A Correspondent| In a surprising turn of events, the Zanu PF Masvingo province has openly defied President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s public declaration that he would not seek to extend his presidency beyond 2028. This defiance is not just a regional anomaly but raises significant questions about the internal dynamics and future direction of Zanu PF, a party historically known for its strict discipline and adherence to leadership directives.
President Mnangagwa’s announcement was seen by many as a strategic move to align with constitutional provisions and demonstrate a commitment to democratic principles. However, the Masvingo province’s call for his continued leadership suggests an undercurrent of dissent or a potential orchestrated move to lay the groundwork for extending his tenure.
The Nature of Zanu PF’s Discipline and Obedience
Zanu PF has long prided itself on its disciplined ranks and a culture of following orders from the top echelon. This obedience is not just a hallmark of party unity but also a mechanism that has historically ensured the centralization of power and control. Given this backdrop, the Masvingo province’s defiance is not a trivial matter. It either points to a significant internal shift or a strategic ploy within the party’s upper echelons.
Possible Scenarios: A Reflection of Internal Dynamics
One possibility is that this call for Mnangagwa to extend his rule reflects genuine grassroots support within the Masvingo province, a sentiment that might be echoed in other regions. This could indicate a broader base of support for Mnangagwa within the party, contradicting his public stance and revealing a more complex picture of Zanu PF’s internal politics.
Alternatively, this defiance could be a carefully orchestrated move by Mnangagwa’s allies to create a groundswell of support for his continued leadership. By publicly declaring his intention to step down after two terms, Mnangagwa positions himself as a leader who respects constitutional limits. However, the unsolicited support from party regions like Masvingo could be leveraged to justify a “popular demand” for his continued leadership, effectively extending his tenure without appearing to contravene his initial stance.
Implications for Zanu PF and Zimbabwe’s Political Landscape
If the Masvingo province’s stance gains traction, it could set a precedent for similar calls from other provinces, creating a ripple effect that might pressure Mnangagwa to reconsider his decision. This scenario could lead to internal power struggles, as factions within Zanu PF either rally behind Mnangagwa or push for new leadership, potentially destabilizing the party.
Moreover, the broader implications for Zimbabwe’s political landscape cannot be understated. An extended Mnangagwa presidency could impact the country’s democratic processes and perceptions both domestically and internationally. It would also influence the opposition’s strategies and the electorate’s trust in the political system.
Conclusion: The Fine Line Between Strategy and Ambition
In conclusion, the Masvingo province’s defiance of President Mnangagwa’s declared retirement plan raises critical questions about the internal dynamics of Zanu PF and the future of Zimbabwe’s political landscape. Whether this move is a reflection of genuine support or a strategic maneuver by Mnangagwa’s camp, it underscores the complex interplay between discipline, loyalty, and ambition within one of Africa’s oldest liberation movements. As the situation unfolds, the true motivations and implications of this defiance will become clearer, shaping the future trajectory of both the party and the nation.

Zimbabwean opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa has recently emphasized the importance of wisdom amid criticisms surrounding his strong biblical principles.
In a thought-provoking Facebook post, Chamisa articulated his belief that true wisdom transcends mere education, urging his followers to seek deeper understanding through spiritual reflection.
Chamisa’s statement begins with a call to prioritize wisdom, declaring it “the principal thing.”
He posits that while education and knowledge are valuable, they become limited without the guiding force of wisdom. He asserts that wisdom cannot be confined to classrooms; rather, it is cultivated in “prayer rooms,” suggesting that spiritual insight is essential for personal and societal growth.
He elaborates on the transformative power of wisdom, stating that it not only enlightens but also sharpens one’s perspective, promoting a life of rectitude and integrity. According to Chamisa, wisdom is foundational for navigating the complexities of life, enriching it with love, politeness, and happiness.
In a world rife with ignorance, inequality, and corruption, Chamisa identifies the absence of wisdom as a primary contributor to societal woes. He contrasts contemporary views that often elevate mere intellectual prowess, emphasizing instead that true honor lies in the pursuit of wisdom and righteousness—a principle he aligns with the teachings of Jesus Christ, whom he regards as the ultimate embodiment of these values.
Chamisa’s message serves as both a personal guide and a call to action for his supporters.
He invites them to trust in divine guidance, advocating for a life that embraces wisdom through faith and righteousness. His closing remarks emphasize resilience, suggesting that those who adhere to this path will emerge as heroes in their own narratives.
As Zimbabwe faces various challenges, Chamisa’s emphasis on wisdom as a tool for personal and collective empowerment resonates strongly, encouraging a deeper engagement with both spiritual and ethical dimensions in leadership and governance.

By Reinford Khumalo | The sacking of the Deputy Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Honourable Simelisizwe Sibanda from his post of Deputy Minister for Higher and Tertiary Education by the President Dr E.D. Mnangangwa two weeks ago is an affront to constitutional justice. The constitution of Zimbabwe as amended on 30th September, 2018 stipulates and states specifically in Chapter 1 Sections 1 and 2 that the “Constitution is the supreme law of Zimbabwe and any law, practice, custom or conduct inconsistent with it is invalid to the extent of the inconsistency. (2) The obligations imposed by this Constitution are binding on every person, natural ion or juristic, including the State and all executive, legislative and judicial institutions and agencies of government at every level, and must be fulfilled by them.”
The incident of the dismissal of the former deputy minister as related by ZIMSPHERE on 1 July, 2024 avers, “His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde Dr Emerson D Mnangagwa has, in terms of Section 108 (1a) of the constitution of Zimbabwe, removed Hon. Simelisizwe Sibanda from the office of deputy minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development with immediate effect,” Rushwaya said in the statement.
The article continues to state that “the incident that led to the former deputy Mininister’s dismissal occurred during his visit to Clonnmore Primary School where he learned about a teacher struggling to teach an Early Childhood Development (ECD) class due to her inability to speak the local language. Parents had expressed their frustration over the situation.”
As an academic, in my addressing this matter, I would like to further quote Section 6 (4b) of the constitution pertaining to the promotion of languages. The section states that the state must take into account the language preferences of people affected by governmental measures or communications. In this particular case, the incumbent teacher could not speak the language of the children she was supposed to teach. How then would she benefit the children through instructing them?
As pertaining to culture, Section 16 (3) states as follows: The State and all institutions and agencies of government at every level must promote and preserve cultural values and practices which enhance the dignity, well-being and equality of Zimbabweans. Section 19 (1d) referring to the development of children states that the state must ensure that children have access to appropriate education and training. In fact, the teaching of a child even goes beyond a mere knowledge of the language of the child. The child needs someone who knows his/her cultural values as well to groom him/her effectively to be a useful citizen.
The deputy minister’s attempt to address the issue of the transfer of the teacher was likely a step towards accountability and governance. The president’s actions of dismissing the deputy minister may undermine these principles. This event may contribute to the erosion of democratic norms, the rule of law and institutional checks and balances.
Section 108 (1a) used to dismiss the deputy minister is not applicable as a response to an act of oversight and the exercise of accountability and governance demonstrated by the deputy minister. In place of applying the provisions of the cited section of the constitution in this matter, the president should have affirmed and confirmed the deputy minister in his position. Its application by the president in such a manner is a violation of the constitution and abuse of power by the president. The president’s actions, therefore, might be driven by a desire to maintain power, protect loyalists or appease their tribal base.
By firing the deputy minister for trying to address structural violence, the president may have overstepped his authority and violated the provisions for ministerial accountability and oversight.
The president’s actions may be influenced by tribal loyalty and a desire to maintain dominance rather than upholding the rule of law and protecting all citizens equally. The initial issue of structural violence perpetuated by some individuals from the president’s tribal group may have been overlooked or condoned, perpetuating a harmful status quo. Further, the president’s actions are a clear example of political interference, tribal favouritism, and disregard for constitutional principles. The firing of the deputy minister is seen as a form of retaliation against someone trying to address systemic injustices, thus further entrenching structural violence.
This incident highlights the need for stronger institutional safeguards, independent oversight bodies and a culture of accountability to prevent abuse of power. Further, our president needs strong advisers, people who shall not engage in singing praises to him but people who will be objective and uphold upright decisions. Like all of us, the president is human. He can err. However, those around him that are given the responsibility to work with him need to adhere to the principles of accomplishing good governance of the nation through the president. Good leaders have always owed their effective leadership to their able and astute advisors.

The cannabinoid market is rapidly evolving, with new products emerging that capture consumer interest and drive industry growth. One of the latest trends making waves is Delta 10 THC, a lesser-known cannabinoid gaining popularity for its unique properties. Delta 10 carts, in particular, have become a hot topic within the cannabis community and the broader business landscape.
This blog explores what businesses need to know about Delta 10 carts, including their benefits, regulatory landscape, market potential, and strategies for entering this burgeoning market.
Understanding Delta 10 THC
Delta 10 THC, commonly found in trace amounts in cannabis plants, shares structural similarities with Delta 9 THC; it offers milder psychoactive effects while offering distinct side-effects. Users report that Delta 10 provides an uplifting, energizing experience, making it appealing for daytime use or for those seeking a less intense alternative to Delta 9 THC.
The production of Delta 10 THC typically involves converting CBD or Delta 9 THC through a chemical process. This conversion is necessary due to the low natural concentration of Delta 10 in cannabis plants. As a result, Delta 10 products, including vape carts, are usually derived from hemp, making them more accessible under current U.S. federal laws.
The Benefits of Delta 10 Carts
Delta 10 carts, or vape cartridges, offer several benefits that contribute to their rising popularity:
Mild Psychoactive Effects: Delta 10 provides a more manageable psychoactive experience compared to Delta 9 THC, attracting consumers who prefer a lighter high.
Energizing and Uplifting: Users often describe Delta 10 as providing a boost of energy and focus, which can be advantageous for daytime activities and creative pursuits.
Convenient and Discreet: Vape carts are portable, easy to use, and offer a discreet way to consume cannabinoids, making them appealing to a broad audience.
Legal Accessibility: Because Delta 10 is typically derived from hemp, it falls under the legal framework established by the 2018 Farm Bill, allowing for wider distribution and sales.
Regulatory Landscape
Understanding the regulatory environment is crucial for businesses looking to enter the Delta 10 market. The legal status of Delta 10 THC can be complex and varies by jurisdiction:
Federal Law: United States farmers recently passed the 2018 Farm Bill, legalizing hemp and its derivatives that do not exceed 0.3% delta 9 THC content. Delta 10 from hemp fits within this definition but businesses should remain aware of regulatory developments as these could impact them.
State Laws: Individual states may have different regulations regarding Delta 10 THC. Some states have explicitly banned or restricted its sale, while others have embraced it. Businesses must navigate these state-specific regulations to ensure compliance.
International Regulations: For businesses looking to expand globally, understanding international regulations is essential. Different countries have varying laws regarding cannabinoids, impacting the feasibility of entering these markets.
Market Potential
The market potential for Delta 10 carts is significant, driven by several factors:
Consumer Demand: As awareness of Delta 10 grows, so does consumer interest. The unique effects of Delta 10 appeal to a broad demographic, including those who find Delta 9 THC too intense.
Product Diversification: Delta 10 adds another dimension to the product offerings in the cannabinoid market. Businesses can attract new customers and retain existing ones by expanding their product lines to include Delta 10 carts.
Competitive Advantage: Early adopters of Delta 10 can establish themselves as industry leaders. By entering the market ahead of competitors, businesses can build brand loyalty and capture a significant market share.
Strategies for Entering the Delta 10 Market
For businesses considering entering the Delta 10 market, several strategies can help ensure success:
Research and Development: Invest in R&D to create high-quality Delta 10 products. Understanding the chemical properties and potential benefits of Delta 10 will enable businesses to develop superior products that meet consumer expectations.
Compliance and Legal Guidance: Stay informed about regulatory changes and ensure all products comply with local, state, and federal laws. Consulting with legal experts in the cannabinoid industry can help navigate this complex landscape.
Marketing and Education: Educate consumers about Delta 10 THC and its benefits. Effective marketing strategies should highlight the unique properties of Delta 10, addressing common questions and concerns to build trust and interest.
Partnerships and Distribution: Establish partnerships with reputable suppliers and distributors to ensure product quality and availability. Building a robust supply chain will support business growth and market penetration.
Customer Feedback and Adaptation: Continuously gather and analyze customer feedback to refine and improve products. Staying responsive to consumer needs and preferences will enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Conclusion
The rise of Delta 10 carts presents a promising opportunity for businesses in the cannabinoid industry. By understanding the benefits, regulatory landscape, and market potential, and by adopting strategic approaches to product development and marketing, businesses can successfully navigate this emerging market.
As Delta 10 THC continues to gain traction, those who embrace innovation and compliance will be well-positioned to thrive in this dynamic and rapidly evolving industry.
Political Reporter- Supporters of a Zanu PF faction aligned with President Emmerson Mnangagwa in Masvingo have launched attacks on Constantino Chiwenga, blocking him from entering the Presidential succession race.
In a video circulating on social media, Zanu PF members in Masvingo are heard making it clear that Mnangagwa is going nowhere.
This is despite Mnangagwa recently hinting that he was stepping down in 2028.
It was widely believed that Mnangagwa would be succeeded by his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga.
The two reportedly made a gentleman’s agreement in 2017, when Chiwenga helped Mnangagwa oust the late President Robert Mugabe in a military coup, that Chiwenga would take over in 2028.
Through his spokesperson, George Charamba, Mnangagwa recently conveyed that he is currently serving his second and final term.
By Crime and Courts Reporter- The daughter of Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, Tanya Rozina Rushesha, has been arrested.
The 35-year-old Tanya was arrested on Friday on allegations of selling bulk fuel on the black market.
Tanya is accused of approaching,
“these business owners claiming to sell bulk fuel and convinced them to place large orders after giving her substantial payments. However, she has completely failed to deliver any of the promised fuel,” according to police sources.
However ZimEye reveals that there is a dramatic conflict that’s erupted between Tanya, and Tariro, daughter of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, over a contentious disagreement in their shared fuel business. The clash has resulted in Tanya’s arrest, with police accusing her of fraud, ZimEye sources state.
Tariro, who operates a fuel joint, is at the center of this high-stakes drama in an incident hints at a larger pattern of conflicts involving Mnangagwa’s children and their interactions with both relatives and the general public. The unfolding saga continues to captivate the nation’s attention, highlighting the intense rivalries within Zimbabwe’s political elite. The arrest marks the second time in 2024 that the child of a Cabinet Minister has been taken into custody.
In May, Neville Mutsvangwa, the son of Women’s Affairs Minister Monica Mutsvangwa, was arrested on charges of illegal currency dealing.
Neville and his two alleged accomplices spent nearly a month in remand prison before securing bail.
Following Neville’s arrest, Monica claimed that the arrest was “politically motivated” and accused Vice President Constantino Chiwenga of instigating the arrest.

By Mark Simuuwe | For purposes of this write up, Political party Conditioning of a party is where members of a political party are encouraged to think about politics within specific frames, frames determined by the party to which they belong (Lilleker, 2014).
I have seen Patriotic Front (PF) members and semi-leaders blaming the PF loss in the just ended by-elections on disunity, challenges and infighting.
In my view, the loss has nothing to do with disunity alone. It has everything to do with failing to understand the elephant in the room.
The elephant in the room of PF is failure to understand how PF was formed and its composition, and failure to respect technocrats. As President Micheal Sata once said , “ without me, there would be a vacuum in PF”- Sata , as quoted in the Postnewspaper of about 19th July 2006.
In PF, they have no respect for the educated . This is the biggest weakness . They respect experience more than education . This is PF’s number one enemy and this is why they cannot race with parties based on a combination of education and experience.
In PF they believe that the educated and uneducated think the same way in politics- Which is a serious misnomer. This is also common in many political parties that some people think having been using insults , walking around to Mobilize and campaigning for many in years is understanding politics. Politics go beyond that because you are confronted with new situations everytime . This is why political parties come and soon get ejected in Africa .
They do not realize that there is organizational behavior which is clearly academic and is need based . The need to know is what is academic and needs technocrats to ascertain or research.
There is an educational component on management of human beings and sustainability of organizations .
This is why many political parties in Europe , Asia and USA have continued to outlive their leaders . When you look at USA political parties , there is always a group of technocrats behind the Republicans and Democrats .
The same is the case with the Communist Party of China (CPC – it has serious technocrats behind the party . Some of us have had an opportunity to study Chinese politics at Peking University to better understand their politics.
In PF, there is total dependency on experience which normally focuses on outdated politics of listening mostly to PF from the street for solutions. Use of noise, insults and daring, use of pride and force as a way of getting power is what characterize the PF.
On the unity semi-leaders like Miles Sampa are calling for, PF can never be united . You need to clear your political conscience to understand how PF was formed and what kind of members it has .
When you look at the quote for Sata above, President Sata knew what kind of members surrounded him and what kind of political appetite they possessed. Herein lies the problem. Some believe because they rubbed shoulders with Sata , then they have what it takes to manage the party . It is not a matter of having been there at the inception of PF , but how you understand political dynamics of the country.
There are too many proud leaders not wanting to let go and run under the other and that this is another weakness of PF .
In politics, you can only have one leader at a time; PF has so many leaders … most of them too proud to accept to be led .
Just as stated on the aspect of how PF views the educated, where they put political experience ahead of education and this is dangerous in modern politics. Education makes you think fast and creative . Make no mistake about it.
I am not talking of the kind of education where you simply acquire papers and take yourself as equals with those who dedicated all their time to education when they were less busy with other things; am talking of the kind of education where school and books was your only occupation; the two are different for us who have been academicians .
So those who are educated are looked down upon as theorists, thus failing to race with parties like UPND with so many thinkers .
You don’t use experience alone in politics because you are confronted with new challenges that require think-tanks.
The educated in PF can’t go anywhere in politics – they have to think above board to realize that PF is made of experience not education. The earlier the educated move out PF the better . PF can’t even rebrand – it is impossible because of the type of elements and beliefs it holds .
Solution to such crop of politicians is dissolution and new political parties formed with technocrats. The educated in PF are a laughing stock . They have been conditioned . Many of them understand what I mean by conditioning . They have been made to start thinking at the same rate with illiterates . They need to come out of PF conditioning !
It is this conditioning some of us have rejected in politics so that we are able to think independently. We support an idea when we know we have enough points on it.
Below is Chamisa’s full statement :
SEEK WISDOM…Wisdom is the principal thing. The beginning of wisdom is to get wisdom. Seeking education and knowledge without wisdom is of limited value. Education without wisdom is foolishness. And Wisdom is not found in classrooms but in prayer rooms.
Wisdom enlightens, enlarges, sharpens, and informs all astuteness and erudition. Wisdom promotes, provides and brings that highest esteem and irresistible honour.
Wisdom is a command to duty for every man. Wisdom guides in the paths of rectitude and transforms one into a model of rectitude.
Life is so precious that it ought to be spiced with the condiment of wisdom, love, politeness and happiness.
All gross ignorance and error, uncertainty and confusion, violence and wickedness, lack and poverty, inequality and insecurity, corruption and misery; come on account of the absence of wisdom.
The world calls men of genius and intellectual force its guardians of light. However, the heavenly standard, which is the true one, confers honours and esteem upon pursuit wisdom and righteousness. And Jesus Christ is the true definition of all wisdom and righteousness!
Trust this Jesus!! Try Him. Believe Him. Keep near Him. Choose His way, and whatever situations may arise in your journey of life, either of hardship or of triumph, you will be the star of the show and hero of the story ! Proverbs 4:7, 1 Corinthians 1:30 Blessed Sabbath #Godisinit
Political Reporter- Zanu PF members aligned with the party’s president, Emmerson Mnangagwa, in Masvingo have launched attacks on Constantino Chiwenga, blocking him from entering the Presidential succession race.
By Showbiz Reporter – Zim Dancehall and rapper Silent Killer has reportedly been arrested for defrauding a music promoter of US$250.
Reports say the musician failed to perform at a Chitungwiza gig after receiving a half down payment of US$250.
He is said to have been arrested yesterday and detained at Matapi Police Station in Mbare.
Efforts by ZimEye to get a comment from Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza were fruitless, as his mobile phone could not be reached.
The controversial musician recently fell out with his manager Elder Shambare, who accused him of drug abuse.
Shambare also claimed that the artist was unprofessional, displayed a disregard for business matters, lacked seriousness in both his professional and personal life, and was jeopardizing his music career due to substance abuse.
By Business Reporter- The Auditor General has unveiled massive looting at Air Zimbabwe, this time with US$5 Million missing from the national airliner’s balance sheet.
The Acting Auditor-General Rheah Kujinga, in the Auditor-General’s report for the Financial Year ended December 31, 2023, note several key issues, including discrepancies in opening balances, inventory valuation, and ongoing concern uncertainties at the national airline.
According to the report, in 2020, the Auditor-General found that opening balances did not agree with the prior year’s financial statements, with variances amounting to USD$4.89 million. Said Kujinga:
As at the beginning of the year ended December 31, 2020, Air Zimbabwe’s opening balances were not agreeing to the prior year financial statement balances.
Management could not provide a justification or correction for the variances in the opening balances amounting to USD$4.89 million.
As such, I could not satisfy myself on the accuracy of the opening balances and determine if any adjustments were necessary to the statement of financial position.
Therefore, for all balance sheet balances, valuation and accuracy of them could not be determined. The prior yearfinancial statements were modified in respect of this matter.
The AG also said an inventory count was not performed, casting doubt on the existence, completeness, and valuation of inventories. She said:
During the year ended December 31, 2020, inventory amounting to USD$14.4 million was recognised in the financial statements. An inventory count was not performed as at December 31, 2020.
As a result, I was unable to determine whether any adjustments might be necessary in respect of the recorded or unrecorded inventories. I was thus unable to satisfy myself as to the existence, completeness and valuation of the inventories.
The prior year financial statements were modified in respect of this matter.
The Auditor-General also noted that the company’s current liabilities exceeded its total assets by US$358.2 million, raising concerns about its ability to continue as a going concern. Reads the report:
I draw your attention to the fact that Air Zimbabwe incurred a net loss of USD11.1 million (2019: USD15.3 million).
The accumulated losses of USD417.4 million have been recognised to date and that the Company’s current liabilities exceeded its total assets by USD358.2 million.
In addition, there is a contingent liability amounting to approximately USD39 million arising from claims being done over the ownership of ZWPN Airbus A320.
These conditions indicated uncertainties which cast significant doubt on the Company’s ability to continue as a going
concern. My opinion was not modified in respect of this matter.
In response to the concerns raised, the Air Zimbabwe management team acknowledged the issues and committed to implementing corrective measures.
This included finalizing the relevant policy documents and aligning the organization’s accounting processes with the established reporting framework.
While the auditor noted that the organisation had made progress in addressing some of the previous audit findings, one finding from the 2021 report remained outstanding and unresolved. Said the AG:
The Commission made progress in addressing audit findings raised in my 2021 and 2022 annual reports.
I raised three (3) findings in my 2022 annual report and followed up on one (1) finding which was outstanding from my 2021 annual report.

The Copa America trophy is on the line this weekend when Argentina face Colombia.
Only once before have Los Cafeteros been crowned the kings of South America, back in 2001, and it is quite remarkable that they have failed to reach the final ever since.
Argentina have suffered no such droughts and are out to claim a 16th Copa America to take them past Uruguay as the outright record-holders for lifting the trophy.
The defending champions have swept through this year’s tournament while only conceding one goal and got the better of surprise package Canada in the semi-finals.
Colombia topped Group D ahead of Brazil before edging Uruguay to make the final, in a game marred by clashes between fans and players in the stands.
Former President Trump Suffers Bloody Fall at Pennsylvania Rally
Butler, PA, 13 July 2024 – By David Hindlig | ZimEye | In a dramatic and alarming incident, former U.S. President Donald Trump physically fell to the ground, resulting in a bloody injury during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday afternoon.
The event took a chaotic turn when loud bangs were heard just before Trump fell. Secret Service agents quickly rushed to his aid, helping him stand and visibly bleeding from his face. The former President, undeterred by the injury, was seen yelling back to the crowd and raising his fist before being escorted off the stage.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with Trump supporters expressing shock and concern for the former President’s well-being. Despite the bloody injury, Trump appeared to be conscious and responsive as he was taken to a waiting vehicle and evacuated from the scene.
The cause of the fall and the loud bangs heard prior remain unclear, and there is no official statement yet from Trump’s team or the Secret Service regarding the nature of the incident or his current condition.
This unexpected and bloody fall has undoubtedly sparked significant concern and speculation among the public and media. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available regarding the former President’s health and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The rally, which was part of Trump’s continued public appearances post-presidency, was abruptly halted as emergency protocols were enacted. Attendees were left in a state of confusion and worry, with many hoping for a swift and positive update on Trump’s condition.
As investigations continue and the situation develops, the focus remains on the health and recovery of the former President following this startling and bloody incident.

Former Tourism Minister Walter Mzembi has criticized the Southern African Development Community (SADC) for shielding President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Mnangagwa is set to assume the SADC Chairmanship in August, despite allegations of electoral fraud in the 2023 polls.
On Thursday, Mzembi stated, “Seek first the reform of SADC @SADC_News, and your voice will be included in its agenda.
For now, it operates as a member state intergovernmental organization, with limited connection to civil society aspirations.”
Zimbabwe settled for silver after suffering a four-nil to defeat to South Africa in the CUCSA football final match played at the Tshwane University of Technology this Friday.
Contrary to reports made by several bloggers that the SADC group has endorsed Emmerson Mnangagwa or that there was no demonstration in Lusaka yesterday, the truth is that the standoff against Mnangagwa continues. Contrary to what the defense minister claimed—that ZANU PF is now okay with SADC and that the situation was not of a demonstrative nature but rather peaceful with only one person named Pardon Gambakwe—the reality is different.
There was a large group of Zimbabweans who staged a demonstration, as evidenced by footage showing numerous participants, including one speaking at the event. The statements by bloggers claiming that the regional body has let Emmerson Mnangagwa off or allowed him to go scot-free are neither factual nor truthful.
Eyewitnesses at the scene, as well as the defense minister’s own words, confirm that the standoff by the regional body members against Mnangagwa continues. Her statement mirrors one Mnangagwa made at the previous summit attended by Trust Ndlovu, indicating propaganda with no factual basis. The footage clearly shows many people present at the demonstration.
Beyond this, statements made at the SADC level continue to stand against Mnangagwa, particularly concerning the 2023 elections and recent comments he made in Russia, which have continental security implications.
By Dr. Masimba Mavaza | The Labour Party has assumed control of the United Kingdom’s government after a significant victory in the recent parliamentary elections. Sir Keir Starmer, the Labour leader, is now the prime minister, having won 412 seats and establishing a 172-seat majority over the Conservatives, who assumed the position of the opposition after 14 years in power. This result was largely expected, especially after the dramatic and tumultuous period within the Conservative Party. After 14 years in power with five consecutive prime ministers, the U.K.’s Conservative Party was voted out, ceding control to Labour, a center-left party that had run on a platform calling for “change.” The results were anticipated as public support for the Conservatives, or Tories, had eroded amid Brexit, COVID-19, and rising inflation.
Zimbabwe’s long-standing historical and cultural ties with the UK, dating back to the colonial era, mean that the outcome of the elections will impact its relations with the UK. Given the extent of British involvement in foreign development aid, Zimbabwe will be keen to see what a Labour government in the UK means for the country. The UK Labour Party has never been a friend of ZANU PF and has openly advocated for regime change in Zimbabwe. The abandonment of the Lancaster agreement was engineered by the Labour government. Relations between Zimbabwe and the United Kingdom tend to deteriorate when Labour is in power. Labour leaders are mostly dedicated to punishing ZANU PF in any way possible. Now, Zimbabwe waits to see if the incoming Labour government is transformed and reformed.
Labour’s return to power showcases the cyclical nature of British politics, especially as they return to power 14 years after a hung parliament in 2010 led to the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition government. Previously, Labour had led for 13 years under Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, and they formed the official opposition during the Conservative tenures of David Cameron, Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, and Rishi Sunak. Amidst a global economic crisis, the electorate handed power to a Conservative government that promised austerity but also showed faith in a Liberal Democrat party that had sought to carry out radical reforms in the House of Lords and in voting processes.
Cameron’s efforts were rewarded with an outright victory in 2015, partly due to his pledge to hold a referendum on the UK’s membership in the European Union. This might have marked the beginning of the party’s descent into anti-migration politics, which, under Theresa May and Boris Johnson, would result in more extensive deportation policies. Criticism over the government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, increasing stress over the country’s National Health Service, and concerns over economic proposals added to growing opposition support. Furthermore, party infighting resulted in defections, forcing May and Johnson to call elections in 2017 and 2019 respectively in varying attempts to strengthen their positions. Recent leaders Truss and Sunak had been untested by voters, adding to a growing challenge within the party.
Even though the Conservatives were known to have been tough on immigration, during their fourteen years in power, very few Zimbabweans were deported from England. Zimbabweans faced more deportations during Labour’s tenure and very few during Conservative rule. There were also very few negative press statements and publications against Zimbabwe during the Conservative Party’s tenure in office.
Labour, historically anchored in the trade union movement and socialist organizations of the 19th century, has also dealt with its own internal party challenges. After the insurgent election of Jeremy Corbyn as leader in 2015, there was a clash between centrist and socialist members of the party, especially after accusations of anti-Semitism by the party’s leadership. Observers believe that the Labour government will seek to develop closer trading ties with Africa as a way of achieving the economic growth that is a central priority of the incoming government. However, the relationship with Zimbabwe remains uncertain. Labour spells tough times ahead for Zimbabwe.
Labour’s election win, despite low personal popularity ratings for its leader, can be interpreted as more of an anti-government vote and less of a public vote supporting the party’s vision. This might make it difficult to determine the extent of support that Labour might have for its more radical policies. All this does not answer how Labour will interact with Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe was never mentioned in the Labour Party’s manifesto, and Africa was only mentioned once. However, there are two low-hanging fruits that it could seize to change the United Kingdom’s relationship with Zimbabwe to the benefit of both Britain and Zimbabwe: the discovery of oil and the abundance of lithium might make Labour reconsider its attitude toward Zimbabwe.
While many in the UK are focused on what Labour will do domestically, Zimbabwe must ask what this ‘change’ means for Zimbabwean stakeholders. Given that the UK’s relationship with Zimbabwe is not mentioned in Labour’s 136-page manifesto, it is essential to determine whether the new government will move on from the traditional, orthodox approach, which was characterized by viewing Zimbabwe as an enemy. Initially, Labour was fixed on removing Mugabe; now the focus has shifted to Mnangagwa and his party.
A new Labour government has been elected promising “change” after fourteen years of Conservative-led government, including when it comes to the country’s foreign policy, but it is “difficult to predict” what this might mean for UK-Zimbabwe relations. The Labour Party manifesto said that “recognising the growing political and economic importance of African countries, we will deliver a new approach to the continent to foster opportunities for mutual long-term benefit.” We only hope that the new approach treats Zimbabwe fairly.
While it remains to be seen what this “new approach” will mean in practice, it is believed that the government will seek to develop closer trading ties with Africa as a way of achieving the economic growth which is a central priority of the new government. However, it might throw Zimbabwe under the bus in order to please the rest of Western Europe, which is intent on destabilizing Zimbabwe and replacing its government with a group of puppets called the opposition. In its section on foreign policy, the Labour manifesto notes that “Labour’s first mission in government will be to grow our economy” and that “this will be at the heart of everything we do, including our foreign policy.” This suggests that Labour might be economy-oriented, which might mean positive changes towards Zimbabwe, considering that Zimbabwe is one of the fastest-growing economies in Africa.
Alex Vines, who leads the Africa Programme at the Chatham House think-tank in London, tells African Business that “the Foreign Secretary David Lammy has said that resetting relations with the Global South is one of his top three priorities – and he has Africa partly in mind.” This then casts a dim view on the relationship with Zimbabwe. Prior to the election, Labour’s then-shadow minister for Africa, Lyn Brown, suggested that an incoming Labour government would seek to help African countries struggling with meeting sovereign bond repayments. However, she did not clarify whether this would mean assisting African countries under the existing G20 “Common Framework” for debt restructuring, or whether the new government would seek to establish new frameworks entirely. This arrangement clearly leaves Zimbabwe behind.
A major policy focus that is not expected to change is the emphasis on development strictly through foreign policy. This approach followed Johnson’s decision to merge the government ministry responsible for international development with the foreign office in 2020. The Department for International Development was a legacy of Tony Blair’s first election win in 1997 and remains a major example of Labour’s commitment to the developing world. Despite an attempt to ensure a consolidated approach to foreign policy and development investment, the impact has been less than ideal for the UK’s global engagements.
It goes without saying that, despite a considerable focus on foreign considerations, it is not Zimbabweans who vote in a British Prime Minister. As a result, Mr. Starmer is likely to prioritize domestic considerations when determining the extent and focus of his government’s foreign interventions. Labour’s first steps for change follow that reality, and it might take some time before Zimbabwe is made aware of how the region will factor into their plans. Zimbabwe will not cry like a baby over spilt milk. Regardless, Zimbabwe can and should negotiate from a position of strength. It also means that in negotiating for trade and aid, there needs to be a clear demand for what is needed and how best to support the country. This will help ensure a pragmatic approach to communicating positions in the early days.
Recent Labour governments have been more active in pushing a regime change agenda, ensuring a more activist role for the UK in Zimbabwean affairs. However, this is not the same Labour of previous years, and it is not yet clear if there is a plan in place for how to engage with Zimbabwe. Things might be different: back in 2022, David Lammy, the new foreign minister, noted that international development should not be driven by paternalism but by mutual partnership and trust. Such sentiment is echoed with the manifesto emphasizing that Labour will “rebuild Britain’s reputation on international development with a new approach based on genuine respect and partnership with the Global South to support our common interests.”
Zimbabwe is not after donations; it expects to be treated as an equal partner. We should not be treated like beggars but partners in trade. We have a lot to offer, as does the UK. “David Lammy has told African diplomatic envoys that there will be an updated Africa strategy, but who will lead on this and what difference it will make is difficult to predict.”
By Political Reporter- There was tension on Saturday at the Johane Marange Apostolic Church, St Noah Mafararikwa Shrine in Bocha, Mutare in Manicaland province, as President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s extensive security detail invaded the shrine ahead of his attendance.
The presence of the dreaded Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) operatives, who gave strict seating instructions to congregants, created an atmosphere of discomfort and unease.
Mnangagwa, who travels with over 30 security personnel, arrived at the shrine accompanied by Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri and Youth Minister Tino Machakaire.
This heavy-handed approach mirrors that of his predecessor, Robert Mugabe, whom Mnangagwa ousted in a military coup.
Like Mugabe, Mnangagwa has adeptly utilised the church as a tool to consolidate power, manipulate elections, and obscure a litany of corruption, bad governance, and human rights abuses.
This unholy alliance has not only compromised the sanctity of religious institutions but also eroded the democratic fabric of the nation.
Mnangagwa’s regime has systematically co-opted religious leaders and institutions, turning them into instruments of political propaganda.
By aligning himself with influential church figures, Mnangagwa seeks to project an image of piety and moral authority.
This strategy is particularly evident during election periods, where church events are transformed into political rallies.
Religious leaders endorse Mnangagwa and urge their congregations to support his party, Zanu-PF.
The manipulation of religious platforms for political gain extends to outright election rigging.
There are several reports of church leaders being bribed or coerced into promoting Mnangagwa’s candidacy and discouraging dissent.
Congregants are often subjected to sermons emphasising obedience and loyalty to the ruling party, with subtle or overt threats of divine retribution for opposing Mnangagwa.
This exploitation of faith creates a coercive environment where voters feel morally obligated or fearfully compelled to support the regime.
While Mnangagwa presents himself as a devout leader, his administration is marred by rampant corruption and mismanagement.
High-profile corruption scandals involving top government officials are routinely downplayed or dismissed, with religious rhetoric used to distract the populace.
By framing political critiques as attacks on a godly leader, Mnangagwa deflects scrutiny and fosters a culture of impunity within his government.
Human rights abuses under Mnangagwa’s regime are well-documented, from the brutal crackdown on protesters to the silencing of opposition voices through intimidation and violence.
Yet, through his association with the church, Mnangagwa attempts to mask these atrocities.
Religious gatherings often feature prayers for peace and stability, implicitly suggesting that support for Mnangagwa is synonymous with national harmony.
This manipulation not only undermines genuine calls for justice and accountability but also places religious institutions in the service of oppression.
The complicity of some church leaders in Mnangagwa’s schemes raises serious ethical concerns.
While many religious figures genuinely believe they are promoting peace and stability, their actions inadvertently legitimise an oppressive regime.
Conversely, those who resist government co-optation face harassment and persecution, highlighting the perilous position of religious institutions in Zimbabwe’s political landscape.
Mnangagwa’s strategic use of the church to rig elections and conceal his administration’s corruption, bad governance, and human rights abuses represents a profound betrayal of both democratic values and religious sanctity.
This unholy alliance not only threatens the integrity of Zimbabwe’s political process but also undermines the moral authority of the church, leaving a nation in desperate need of genuine reform and accountability.

It is important to note that the WHO has been leading global efforts to combat COVID-19, and any lockdown measures would need to be based on scientific evidence and expertise.
The situation is being monitored, and any further developments will be reported.”
On July 10, 2024, police arrested Daisy Ivy Makanaka (25) in connection with the death of her husband, Talent Golden Masuku (40), which occurred at Masvosva Village, Mwenezi.
According to preliminary investigations, Makanaka allegedly struck Masuku on the head with a log and stabbed him in the back with a kitchen knife after finding him with his ex-wife, Shingirai Mativenga (44).
Masuku was pronounced dead at the scene.
Makanaka also allegedly assaulted Mativenga, striking her on the head with a log and biting her on the cheek.
The motive behind the incident is still unclear, and the case is currently under investigation.
By Crime and Courts Report- More than 10 cars have been burnt to ashes at ZRP Southerton Police Station complex.
Southerton police houses two police units, the Duty Uniform and the CID Vehicle Theft Squad.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident on Friday afternoon, saying that the fire originated from an electricity pylon close to the property and quickly spread throughout the yard.
In the process, a total of 12 vehicles parked within the police station complex were severely damaged and burned.
The ZRP has not yet disclosed the potential cause of the fire and no injuries to police officers or other personnel have been reported so far.
Reads the statement:
The ZRP confirms that investigations are being conducted in connection with a fire incident which occurred this afternoon at the ZRP Southerton Police Station complex which houses the Duty Uniform Branch (DUB) and CID Vehicle Theft Squad (VTS). The fire emanated from an electricity pylon and spread through the yard. In the process, 12 vehicles were burnt.
A statement issued earlier on Friday by the City of Harare reads:
Initial reports about the inferno at Southerton Police Station are that it started as a grass fire and then engulfed vehicles parked in the Vehicle Theft Squad yard damaging seven Trucks, one bus and four light motor vehicles. Our fire brigade managed to contain the fire and used approximately 21000 litres of water. The City firefighters once again did a splendid job to contain a fire which was threatening to escalate.
By Crime and Courts Reporter- The Auditor-General (AG) has unveiled massive car tender corruption involving a number of government ministries.
The AG revealed significant issues regarding the government’s procurement processes in a report for the Financial Year ending December 31, 2023, tabled before the Parliament recently.
The report highlights how the government has paid large sums of money for a variety of items, including cars, laptops, and furniture, but has often failed to receive the expected deliveries.
Furthermore, the report indicates that little has been done to recover the misappropriated funds or the undelivered goods.
According to the report, unscrupulous individuals have been exploiting the government’s procurement system to their advantage.
These individuals have been awarded lucrative tenders, collected the associated payments, and then neglected to fulfiltheir contractual obligations to supply the goods.
These actions have often gone unpunished, with no apparent consequences for the perpetrators.
One such example highlighted in the report involves the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development. In December 2022, the ministry placed an order with Tsapo, a car dealership, for seven Toyota Hilux GD6 vehicles.
However, the report indicates that the ministry never received the ordered vehicles, despite the substantial payments made to the dealership. According to the Office of the Auditor-General (OAG):
The seven vehicles had not been delivered at the time of concluding the audit in September 2023.
According to the report, the Ministry of Finance visited the supplier several times to enquire about the delivery. The officials told the auditor:
An email was sent on March 20, 2023, after three physical visits were made to enquire about the delivery. Thereafter, a formal letter of follow-up was sent on March 23, 2023, as the supplier indicated that they were experiencing supply challenges on the production line. A final demand letter was then sent on April 13, 2023, and the supplier responded that delivery would be done in two weeks’ time.”
However, by May 2024, the cars were still to come according to the Auditor-General.
In another case, in September 2023, the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development ordered a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado VXL and Toyota Land Cruiser 79 for US$193,000 from Burnett Motors.
The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado VXL was delivered in April 2024 but without the papers needed for a change ofownership. The Toyota Land Cruiser 79 was still to come by May this year.
In 2022, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage ordered 35 cars from Faramatsi Motors for ZWL$182,621,960, according to the Auditor-General’s report.
The government was to pay half of the money before delivery in four weeks. The Ministry paid ZWL$ 175,000,000 before supply. Faramatsi delivered 11 cars, leaving 24 outstanding in May 2024.
The Ministry blames currency depreciation, saying when the order was made, the cost was equivalent to US$1.8 million.
The payments that the government made in 2022 were worth US$888,874, enough for just 17 cars. The Ministry says Faramatsi Motors has now delivered 15 cars and two are left.
The Auditor-General’s report also shows that the Ministry of Sport bought 17 Nissan Navara cars in December 2022 for ZWL$393 171 724 from AMTEC.
Only seven were delivered in 2023, and the rest had still not arrived by May 2024. Reads the report:
In addition, out of those seven vehicles delivered, four of them were yet to be registered in the name of the Ministry.
By Political Reporter-The ruling Zanu PF party has celebrated the failure of an anti-President Emmerson Mnangagwa demonstration in Lusaka, Zambia.
Diaspora-based activists had mobilized funds from donors and flown to Zambia with the intent to protest during the 26th SADC Ministerial Committee of the Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation.
Their goal was to pressure SADC not to transfer the regional bloc’s chairmanship to President Mnangagwa, as Zimbabwe is set to take over from Zambia next month on a rotational basis.
However, the activists’ efforts were thwarted by Zambian police, who intervened as they staged a demonstration without proper notification to the authorities.
Reports suggest that the activists were trying to justify the thousands of dollars they had received from donors for the demonstration.
Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, speaking to reporters upon her return from the SADC meeting, laughed at the activists’ failed attempt.
“The information that we got from our own security and intelligence wing was that there was one Zimbabwean who managed to sneak into the conference centre. He was just by himself, but the Zambians were very alert and they quickly removed him from the conference centre. I understand he was trying to mobilize people to demonstrate, but people didn’tturn up.”
By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Masvingo, Zimbabwe – July 12, 2024 | The Masvingo City Council is under intense scrutiny following allegations of corruption against Town Clerk Edward Mukaratirwa. Mr. Mukaratirwa is accused by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe of criminal abuse of duty and fraud. These serious charges have sparked significant concern among residents and local activists.
Prosper Tiringindi, a prominent human rights activist, has voiced the community’s concerns in a letter addressed to the Mayor and Councilors of Masvingo City Council. Tiringindi highlights the questionable handling of the situation, particularly the decision to place Mukaratirwa on leave rather than suspend him pending the investigation.
The letter raises several critical questions:
1. When was the resolution regarding Mr. Mukaratirwa’s leave made by the Mayor and Councilors?
2. Was a special full council meeting convened to discuss the corruption allegations and appoint an acting Town Clerk?
3. Who is currently acting as the Chamber Secretary in the interim?
4. Why was the Chamber Secretary appointed as the acting Town Clerk without proper consultation?
Tiringindi and concerned residents argue that placing Mukaratirwa on leave, rather than suspending him, appears to be an abuse of power and deviates from standard procedure. They demand transparency and accountability in the Council’s decision-making process and call for a special full council meeting to address these serious allegations.
In addition to concerns about the handling of the corruption case, residents are also troubled by the misuse of funds and high water rates. Tiringindi’s letter emphasizes the need for the Council to prioritize the interests of the residents over individual interests and urges the Mayor and Councilors to take immediate action.
The community demands that the outcome of any council resolutions be made public through local newspapers to ensure transparency. They have also warned that if their concerns are not addressed satisfactorily, they may organize a peaceful demonstration at the Town House.
This situation continues to develop, and residents are closely watching for the Council’s response to these pressing issues. The call for integrity and transparency in the governance of Masvingo City is louder than ever.

Four Harare Officials in Court for Corruption Charges*
By A Correspondent | Harare, Zimbabwe – July 12, 2024 | The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe has announced that four senior officials from the City of Harare are facing charges of criminal abuse of duty as public officers. The officials, Never Murerwa (62), Jabulani Mukomazi (44), Denford Zhungu (69), and Tawanda Mutenhabundo (29), hold positions as Manager Supply Chain, Principal Buyer, Principal Accountant, and Engineering Technician, respectively.
On March 15, 2024, the City of Harare issued an invitation to tender for the rehabilitation of street lighting across the city. Among the companies that responded was Juluka Ennd Joint Venture (Pvt) Ltd. However, the joint venture was disqualified after failing to meet the tender requirements. Despite this, the accused officials are alleged to have improperly awarded the tender to Juluka Ennd Joint Venture, ignoring their disqualification.
Investigations revealed that the decision was influenced by the accused officials’ personal connections with individuals in the company, which had previously failed to deliver on a tender awarded for a biogas digester in 2019. The company’s history of failing to execute contracts properly made it an unsuitable choice for the street lighting project.
The accused officials have been implicated in the unlawful preparation and signing of a contract with Juluka Ennd Joint Venture, valued at USD 294,328, which included an advance payment. The officials were remanded to July 15 for further bail hearings.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe emphasized its commitment to combating corruption and upholding the integrity of public office.

This article provides a concise summary of the legal proceedings involving the Harare officials, highlighting the key details and charges.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has fiercely condemned the leaking of an affidavit related to the high-profile VBS Mutual Bank case. This affidavit, reportedly penned by former VBS chairperson Tshifhiwa Matodzi, implicates Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema and his deputy Floyd Shivambu in the looting of VBS via Sgameka Projects (PTY) LTD, a company registered under the name of Shivambu’s younger brother, Brian Shivambu.
NPA spokesperson, advocate Mthunzi Mhaga, emphasized that the leaking of the affidavit undermines the administration of justice and endangers several individuals, including members of the investigation and prosecution team. “The NPA is considering legal options in this regard,” Mhaga stated.
Mhaga further highlighted that the leaking of confidential documents in complex corruption cases like VBS jeopardizes the extensive work of investigators and prosecutors. “This work involves a multi-pronged and long-term prosecution-guided strategy requiring the utmost discretion and confidentiality, including in the handling of documents, and cooperation agreements with accused persons,” Mhaga said.
In response to the leak, the NPA leadership has directed the Director of Public Prosecutions in Pretoria to collaborate with the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI/Hawks) to ensure a thorough investigation. “Those responsible for the leak will be held accountable,” Mhaga assured.
This development follows the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court’s sentencing of Matodzi to 495 years of direct imprisonment for charges including corruption, theft, fraud, money laundering, and a pattern of racketeering activities that led to VBS Mutual Bank’s collapse. Matodzi pleaded guilty to 33 charges and entered into a plea agreement with the State, resulting in a 15-year sentence for each count.
Hawks spokesperson, Katlego Mogale, clarified that although the combined sentence totals 495 years, the court ordered the sentences for counts two to 33 to run concurrently with count one. Consequently, Matodzi will serve an effective 15-year imprisonment and has been declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The EFF has yet to release an official statement regarding these allegations. However, Malema cryptically responded by sharing an image captioned, “For any inquiries, please refer to the archives for answers,” maintaining his long-standing assertion of innocence in the VBS Bank looting saga.
This leak adds a dramatic twist to an already contentious and high-stakes investigation, further complicating the legal proceedings and casting a shadow over the quest for justice in the VBS scandal.
The recent deaths due to alleged ‘flu-like illnesses’ of footballer Norman Maroto and opposition legislator Murisi Zwizwai are most unsettling.
In fact, this is not simply unsettling but positively unnerving and a cause of great concern.
What were these ‘flu-like illnesses’ that were able to take the lives of seemingly healthy individuals?
The government of Zimbabwe was swift to allay any fears of a resurgence of the deadly COVID-19 disease – which wrecked untold havoc across the globe between 2019 and 2021.
To date, an estimated 7 million people worldwide have reportedly succumbed to the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus – with nearly 6,000 in Zimbabwe.
This resulted in the imposition of suffocating travel and gathering restrictions – which brought the world to a standstill in order to curtail and curb the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the height of these unprecedented severe restrictions and lockdowns, the world was left with no choice but to hold important international events online.
Even the 75th session of the UN General Assembly, which opened on 15th September 2020, was held virtually for the first time in history since the UN was founded in 1945.
Our own regional body was not spared either, as the 40th SADC Summit – hosted by Mozambique on 17th August 2020 – was, for the first time in history, also held in a virtual format.
This so-called ‘new normal’ proved to be a blessing in disguise – in spite of the undeniable tragedies – as novel ways of doing business and interaction came into force.
Conducting very importing meetings online caught on really quickly – which proved extremely cost effective since this significantly reduced (or even totally eliminated) travel, accommodation, food, and sundry expenses.
One can just imagine the millions of dollars saved by many countries throughout the world, as a result of their leaders not having to travel all the way, for instance, to New York (USA) for the UN General Assembly.
At the same time, this introduced a new culture of inclusivity, whereby marginalized communities or people could now actively participate in events that they, previously, could not have afforded to attend.
However, over the past three years, the disease has been relatively under control – practically going to the back burner and forgotten by many – save for a few cases here and there in a few countries.
In so doing, the world went back to the ‘old normal’.
Unfortunately, instead of embracing and consolidating the positive ‘silver lining’ which emanated from the dark cloud of COVID-19, the world reverted to the expensive and extravagant way of doing things.
This resulted in the wastage of resources that could have been channeled towards more pressing needs that benefitted the general populace.
Right now, as Zimbabwe prepares to host the 44th SADC Summit on 17th August 2024 in Harare, millions, if not billions of dollars, are being channeled towards the comfort and luxury of the expected heads of state.
How much would have been saved had the meeting been held virtually?
In the midst of a devastating El Nino-induced drought, over 7 million Zimbabweans face hunger.
President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s government is prepared to beg the international community for US$2 billion in aid – yet, not having any problems at all splashing millions on a one-day event!
However, there is a more troubling aspect to Mnangagwa’s eagerness, which borders on desperation, to impress his fellow southern African counterparts.
The WHO (World Health Organization) recently issued a warning on the return of COVID-19.
This is most disturbing.
The UN agency urged governments to be extra vigilant by enhancing surveillance and bolstering hospital capacity for patient treatment.
This stern warning comes after an increase in COVID-19 cases reported in several countries.
As much as the Zimbabwe health ministry has sought to downplay the possible reemergence of COVID-19 in the country – the deaths of Maroto and Zwizwai, due to ‘flu-like illnesses’, however, do not help matters.

Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration is considering eliminating the US Dollar in favor of the Zimbabwean currency, ZiG. However, economic experts have cautioned that this decision could have severe consequences.
A government insider stated, “A country should ideally operate with its own currency,” echoing Mnangagwa’s previous assertions.
According to Zanu PF sympathisers, one of Zimbabwe’s major financial missteps was adopting a multi-currency system in January 2009.
Now, after 15 years, they claim it is time to restore the ZiG as the exclusive legal tender in the country’s economy.
Rwanda has donated 1,000 tonnes of maize to Zimbabwe to address the challenges posed by El Niño-induced drought.
This assistance comes in response to President Mnangagwa’s declaration of the 2023/2024 agricultural season as a disaster due to poor yields.
Foreign Affairs Minister Ambassador Frederick Shava announced the imminent arrival of the maize, commending Rwanda’s solidarity and the spirit of ubuntu demonstrated by President Paul Kagame and the Rwandan people.

By Crime and Courts Reporter- Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s ally and controversial businessman Frank Buyanga and his two attorneys have been sucked into a US$500 000 fraud case.
The two lawyers, Martin Murimirambewa (53) of Mapaya and Partners and Shakespear Karuwa (55), a conveyancer with Karuwa and Associates, were remanded out of custody to September 3 pending finalisation of investigations.
A private daily report states that the two were granted US$100 bail each.
The complainant is Monoliser Investments (Pvt) Ltd, represented by Chamunorwa Matsika. The court heard that sometime in June 2009, Matsika, a co-director of Monoliser Investments (Pvt) Ltd, got a US$30 000 loan from Frank Buyanga, the director for Hamilton Property Ltd. An agreement of sale was entered into and Lot 1 and Lot 2 of Mvagazi in Hurungwe worth over US$500 000 was offered as collateral. Sometime in November 2009, Matsika made efforts to pay back the debt, but discovered that Buyanga’s office had been closed. It is alleged that Matsika came across an article in one of the daily newspapers saying Buyanga was on the run after having defrauded about 42 people. Matsika approached the Deeds Office to check the status of his property and he discovered that it had been changed in favour of Hamilton Property Limited. Matsika initiated civil proceedings against Hamilton Property Limited. However, in 2023, Matsika was served with an eviction order which led him to report the case to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission.
By Political Reporter- People who collected donations for their Zambia demonstrations have begun blaming ZANU PF for their flopped Lusaka protest.
The group has accused Zanu PF begged Zambia it to stop Zimbabweans who are protesting against the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Chairmanship of President Emmerson Mnangagwa in Lusaka.
Yesterday, the Zambia Police Service (ZPS) barred Zimbabwean citizens from holding a demonstration in Lusaka.
Dozens of Zimbabwean activists had staged protests against the upcoming assumption of the SADC chairmanship by Mnangagwa next month.
The activists also planned to protest at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka on Friday.
ChangeRadio, has falsely claimed that the ZPS cancelled the demonstration under pressure from Zimbabwe’s ruling ZANU PF party.
Reported Change Radio:
Today (11 July 2024), the Citizens delegation, led by Mr. Trust Ndlovu from South Africa, Mr. Chambara from Namibia, Mr Marufu from South Africa, Mr. Maphosa from Zambia, and Mr. Mavhoko from Botswana, successfully handed over the petition to the Zambian Permanent Secretary for onward transmission to His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema.
The petition seeks to highlight the deteriorating governance and human rights crisis in Zimbabwe, for instance, the arbitrary detention of innocent citizens like Senator Jameson Timba and the Avondale 78 among others.
SADC should not hand over its chairmanship to Mr. Mnangagwa, who is Zimbabwe’s president through a shambolic election that the SEOM report highlighted.
Mr. Mnangagwa and Zanu-PF will feel vindicated, therefore continuing on the destructive path harmful to not onlyZimbabwe but SADC as a whole.
SADC should facilitate dialogue to get Zimbabwe out of the perpetual governance crisis causing untold suffering to Zimbabwe citizens through economic mismanagement, among other problems.
The immigration crisis in SADC is a testament to the governance crisis in Zimbabwe.
A poster circulating online reads: “No to ED’s SADC Chairmanship. Zimbabwe is under a military dictatorship characterised by corruption, nepotism, poverty, and open repression. Let us rise up.”
Mnangagwa and the ruling ZANU PF party have made it clear that they will not tolerate any form of dissent or opposition ahead of the upcoming SADC Summit in August, where Mnangagwa is expected to assume the chairmanship of the regional bloc.
Earlier this week, the prominent human rights organization, Human Rights Watch (HRW), urged SADC to speak out against the intensified crackdown on the opposition and civil society organizations by the Zimbabwean authorities, ahead of the regional bloc’s upcoming summit in Harare.
According to HRW, since Mnangagwa assumed power through a military coup in 2017, his government has committed serious human rights violations and has demonstrated a failure or unwillingness to institute lasting human rights reforms.
The rights group called on SADC to use the Harare summit as an opportunity to address the deteriorating human rights situation in Zimbabwe and to press the Mnangagwa government to end its crackdown on dissent and uphold fundamental freedoms.

It will make a powerful combination with SITA’s portfolio of solutions, including biometrics, computer vision, digital travel, and airport operations management.
8 July 2024 – SITA, the global leader in technology solutions for the air transport industry, has announced record results for 2023 as revenues reached almost US$ 1.5 billion.
This represents a rise of 7% on the prior year, with all signs so far in 2024 indicating similar positive performance this year.
Unveiling the results at SITA’s Annual General Assembly in June, SITA CEO David Lavorel also cited growth in margin and EBITDA, which exceeded plans by 4%.
“Every one of our customers and members benefits from our strong performance and growth,” said Lavorel. “It means we can self-fund our portfolio evolutions and explore further innovation opportunities. This is vital as we address the big trends now facing travel and take on new technologies to shape our industry’s future. Our portfolio developments and innovations are preparing the industry for the years ahead, delivering seamless and touchless journeys, operational efficiency, resilience and agility, sustainability, and more.”
SITA also saw record contracts and partnerships to transform travel at airports and borders, through digital identities, biometric and mobile-enabled self-service, and digital borders. Examples include biometric touchpoints for airline passengers at Frankfurt Airport, a digital travel and sustainability collaboration with the Arab Air Carriers Organization, and continued world-leading trials in Aruba, using ICAO’s Digital Travel Credential (DTC) standard.
In addition, SITA’s agreement with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) will see the latest passenger processing solutions and cloud-enablement for 44 airports in India, preparing the country for a future of increasing growth in passenger traffic.
With the return of travel comes the need to make operations efficient. The launch of new services for the SITA Connect Go SD-WAN solution gives the industry the opportunity to achieve this goal, as a platform for industry digitalization. Qatar Airways and Biman Bangladesh Airlines became early customers, using the solution to help fuel growth.
In another major trend, collaborative IT for aircraft is helping to make flights more efficient and sustainable, using AI and data-driven operational tools. In 2023, airlines eagerly took on SITA OptiFlight® to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by better planning fight paths.
They include Azul, Singapore Airlines, AIX Connect, Vistara, and many more. AI and flight optimization services are critical to help aviation’s journey to a carbon net-zero future.
“We’ve significantly over-achieved the first year goals of our business plan to grow SITA. As a result, we entered 2024 with a strong tailwind,” said Lavorel.
“With 75 successful years behind us, we’re looking to the future of travel. Our mission is to prepare our customers to deliver the ultimate travel and transport experience, with the most advanced, efficient, and sustainable technologies.”
Continuing the focus on travel industry operational efficiencies and sustainability, 2024 has seen the launch of SITA Total Airport Optimizer. Using an AI-powered platform, it helps airports to manage every aspect of their operations.
Through a partnership with Univers, the solution also brings sustainability into the heart of operational decision making. It means airports can monitor and report energy usage, emissions from aircraft and other vehicles, and their carbon footprint.
The momentum in 2024 continued with SITA’s acquisition of Materna IPS, leader in passenger handling for airports and airlines, and Self Bag-Drop market leader. The move will reshape aviation, creating the world’s most powerful passenger portfolio for airports and digital travel.
SITA followed that acquisition with the launch of SmartSea through an agreement with Columbia Shipmanagement, world-class ship manager and maritime service provider.
SmartSea will reshape the maritime industry by giving it access to the same advanced technology that is transforming the air transport industry. The launch comes as part of SITA’s expansion into cruise and rail, as well Urban Air Mobility, such as Vertiports.
Soon after, SITA acquired ASISTIM, a company renowned for its managed airline flight operations services.
This paves the way for airlines of all sizes to outsource part of their flight operations, through a fully-fledged airline flight Operations Control Center (OCC) managed service.
“This is an exciting time for the travel industry,” added SITA’s Lavorel. “Major trends such as digitalization and sustainability will uproot the way we work, forever.
For 75 years we’ve helped air transport step into the future. Now we’re positioned to help the wider travel and transport industries to create ever more frictionless journey experiences, achieve operational efficiencies and resilience, and address sustainability requirements.”
Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu has cautioned his charges not to read much in the chaos that have affected Dynamos’ preparations for their Sunday’s meeting in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
The Dembare camp was rocked by strikes for three days after players refused to train, citing outstanding bonuses.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Thursday, Kaindu predicted a tough encounter for his team.
He said: “It makes it very difficult when you are playing a team that has its in-house problems. You may be misled and it may also affect you one way or another, but we don’t know what is happening behind closed doors.
“If you look at a game of this magnitude it does not matter if they have trained or not, it’s a game everyone wants to come and watch. Whether they are training or not we are not dwelling into that. We just want to focus on the game and get a positive result.”
The Castle Lager Premiership matchday 18 encounter is scheduled for Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.
The two giants renew their rivalry at the iconic venue for the first time since 2019.

By Dr. Masimba Mavaza | Skeptics suggest that “folk politics”—marches, protests, and the like—distract from addressing real issues. Many detractors aim to introduce their own rules through confusion, filling the streets with protesters to gain power. To prevent such behavior, many governments have enacted laws to regulate street protests, ensuring they are in the best interest of the country’s citizens.
Protests often deepen divisions rather than unite factions, leading to counterarguments, counter-protests, tension, violence, and polarization. Effective protests occur without ulterior motives, gaining the attention of those in power who may consider the issues raised. The right to protest is crucial, but protesting at the wrong time for the wrong reason can lead to severe consequences, like imprisonment, which doesn’t aid political discourse. Violent protests can also result in the protesting group being labeled as radical, hindering proper public discussion.
In the UK, the right to protest is protected under the European Convention of Human Rights, but this applies only to peaceful demonstrations, excluding acts of violence or damage. To curb unwarranted protests, Serious Disruption Prevention Orders were introduced as part of the Public Order Act 2023. Breaching such orders is a criminal offense, punishable by up to six months in prison and/or an unlimited fine. Despite the British government advocating for protesters’ rights internationally, protests in the UK are not without restrictions.
New public order powers in the UK aim to prevent individuals from causing repeated serious disruption, empowering the police to intervene before serious disruptions occur, especially for those with previous protest-related offenses. These orders can impose restrictions such as preventing individuals from being in certain areas, participating in disruptive activities, associating with protest groups, or using the internet to encourage protest-related offenses. The court determines the specific restrictions, which can last up to two years and be renewed if necessary.
Former Home Secretary James Cleverly emphasized the democratic right to protest, while noting the need for limitations. Recent months have shown individuals causing severe disruption, prompting new powers to prevent ongoing turmoil. The new orders are part of the government’s efforts to ensure the police have the necessary tools to keep streets safe.
Even with short-notice marches, organizers must inform the police promptly. The police can change the protest location, limit its duration, restrict the number of attendees, and stop sit-down protests that block traffic or public walkways. While these regulations are legal in the UK, they are often seen as heavy-handed when applied in Zimbabwe.
In both the UK and the USA, protesters must avoid blocking access to sidewalks or buildings, disrupting counter-protests, or engaging in obscene speech, false statements, or incitement to immediate disruption or danger. Some jurisdictions may require permits for street marches and adherence to local traffic rules.
In Zimbabwe, invoking laws to limit demonstrations is justified. Street protests are not solutions to Zimbabwe’s economic and political crises for three reasons: they have previously led to unnecessary destruction, they risk loss of property, limbs, and lives, and there are better alternatives like addressing issues through MPs.
Following the Black Lives Matter protests, eight American states passed laws increasing penalties for unlawful behavior during protests or riots, defining “riot” as a gathering of three or more people that threatens public safety. It is perplexing that while the West enforces strict protest laws, they criticize similar measures in Zimbabwe as human rights violations.
In 2003, despite widespread protests against the Iraq war, the conflict proceeded. Protests rarely achieve their intended outcomes, and the West’s sponsorship of such activities in other regions is hypocritical. Zimbabwe must enforce its laws to maintain peace, rejecting external influence.
Zimbabweans should not be misled. Leaders like Job Sikhala, who incite protests while in hiding, should be scrutinized. Zimbabwe needs to abandon planned demonstrations and invoke its laws to deal with protesters firmly. Zimbabwe is our only home, and its peace must be protected.
Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has expressed optimism regarding the recent protests in Kenya, suggesting they symbolize hope for the troubled citizens of Zimbabwe.
In a post shared on X, Chamisa noted, “Kenya A Sign,” highlighting the significance of the events unfolding in that country.
The protests in Kenya, fueled by public discontent, prompted President William Ruto to take decisive action by dismissing his entire cabinet.
This move is seen as an attempt to address the grievances of the citizens and restore faith in the government amid widespread calls for change.
Chamisa’s comments resonate deeply in Zimbabwe, where citizens are facing their own challenges.
He emphasizes that the situation in Kenya could inspire a push for reform and accountability in Zimbabwean politics.
As Kenyans rally for their rights, Chamisa urges Zimbabweans to remain hopeful and engaged in the fight for a better future.
Dr Raymond Chamba | The political tragi-comic proportions of some of our situations in Zimbabwe deserves a third eye examination. By nothing more than rotation we find ourselves assuming the SADC Chairmanship but don’t tell it to those candidates for Ngomahuru who have taken to the highest mountain proclaiming themselves Munhumutapa. Perhaps in the baby making Olympics but certainly not by the baptismal of a most corrupt order ever since Albion send a mission to these lands between the great Zambezi and Limpopo rivers.
The colonial project once seen as headed for a disastrous end had its master planners create moles within the revolutionary movement. Some were even put into prison for good measure and cover for a great legend. Some were send up north to infiltrate the great movement and found themselves by structured marital design assuming positions of power and influence. It’s indeed an inside joke when you hear them froth at the mouth “Pasi ne Mhandu”. It’s humorous but not funny because at the conclusion of the colonial project they are the clear enemies and everywhere you see them imagine and cultivate legendary revolutionary credentials….
Never in the history of pimping and prostitution has someone completely surrounded themselves by their concubines and call that gender mainstreaming in politics. Never in the modern institution of an independent Republic has anyone actually esconsed themselves with their children, family and cattle herding buddies from a narrow ethnic enclave and called it a national government. The god’s must be crazy to have the pestilence of such iniquities flourish and find expression as chereographed good leadership.
The gods must be crazy to have the bambling, halt speaking, ill mannered, murderous, incorigibly thieving “dzororos and mbororos” among us to have the chutzpah to try create a legacy out of this tragedy. Every joke has an ending and every damnation surely runs it’s course and so we expect divine justice to provide a most inglorious end to this circus for the sake of creating an eternal lesson in the folly of stealing and stalling divine destiny-the great peace and prosperity of Dzimbahwe long deferred.
It’s enough to endure the uninvited and unfortunate dalliances of a political and economic rapist. But “this one” forgets the misfortune of the situation and pines for the second and third round to ravish a nation long disadvantaged. Hamunzwewo tsitsi here kuruzhinji rwatambura (have you got any thought nor mercy for a nation driven into mass destitution and despondency). The gods must be crazy to imagine that this devil’s spawn is the best we can do for a great people and nation.
The most dangerous leadership is one that is totally indifferent to the mass indignation of its citizens. Commanding elements of administration have shown an unfortunate lust to take from the people and an unquenchable thirst to rub it in the face of the very same people they steal from. Surely they must be some natural justice to put this charade to bed once and for all. Fortunately the gods and spirits of this realm of Dzimbahwe are not crazy and neither are they resting. The “deep damnation of the taking off” of the wicked amongst us is not only quite upon us but the lessons of their demise shall be forever instructive.
This drum of criminal indifference, gross personal ego tripping and indeed murderous appetite is having its last sonorous notes playing out. Very soon a deep dirge and cloud of regret shall envelope the perpetrators. Chisingapere chinoshura. The Almighty GOD and our ancestors are not crazy. Muchamhanya Paguta. Zinwamhanga Mira…….
