Mnangagwa Hoodwinks Teachers

The Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) has called on the government to give teachers a financial rescue package that will sustain them until their next payday.

In a statement this Monday, PTUZ president Takavafira Zhou said teachers are willing to report for duty but are financially incapacitated and therefore they cannot travel to their workstations. Said Zhou:

As PTUZ, we appeal to Government to mellow down to a more constructive approach, permeable to reason and facts.

Government must urgently offer teachers a rescue package that can take them to the next payday.

However, by the end of a time-framed short period, Government can commit itself to provide a panacea to teachers’ legitimate concern over the restoration of the purchasing power parity of their salaries.

Without such an envisaged rescue package it will be mission impossible for many teachers to report for work.

Teachers’ incapacitation is real and government must bail out teachers.

Zhou bemoaned the government’s failure to restore the purchasing power parity of teachers’ salaries since October 2018.

Teachers want US$540 per month or its equivalent in Zimbabwe dollars, a demand government officials have consistently dismissed as unrealistic. Added Zhou:

The November 2020 promises to redress teachers’ salary anomalies by January 2021 were high sounding nothing, and even the extension of such promises to June 2021 failed to materialise.

Teachers are parents too, and with some earning as little as $21000 this month, we wonder how government expect them to pay school fees as high as $62000 in government schools this term.

Teachers are ready to report for work even if they are given a mere rescue package to enable them to function up to payday when we expect the government to holistically resolve the long-standing challenges facing teachers.

The ball is, therefore, in Government’s hands, to positively intervene, engage teacher unions, pay a rescue package and ensure the successful opening of schools.

Schools opened their doors for examination classes, that is, Grade Seven, Form Four and Form Six, today and the rest will resume classes on 6 September.- Pindula News

Biden Celebrates The Largest Airlift In US History, 120,000 Citizens Rescued From Afghanistan

The US President Joe Biden has published the below announcement celebrating the largest airlift in United States history of over 120000 citizens. Biden said all this as he announced the end of US military presence in Afghanistan. Below was his statement:

I want to thank our commanders and the men and women serving under them for their execution of the dangerous retrograde from Afghanistan as scheduled – in the early morning hours of August 31, Kabul time – with no further loss of American lives. The past 17 days have seen our troops execute the largest airlift in US history, evacuating over 120,000 US citizens, citizens of our allies, and Afghan allies of the United States. They have done it with unmatched courage, professionalism, and resolve. Now, our 20-year military presence in Afghanistan has ended.

Tomorrow afternoon, I will address the American people on my decision not to extend our presence in Afghanistan beyond August 31. For now, I will report that it was the unanimous recommendation of the Joint Chiefs and of all of our commanders on the ground to end our airlift mission as planned. Their view was that ending our military mission was the best way to protect the lives of our troops, and secure the prospects of civilian departures for those who want to leave Afghanistan in the weeks and months ahead.

I have asked the Secretary of State to lead the continued coordination with our international partners to ensure safe passage for any Americans, Afghan partners, and foreign nationals who want to leave Afghanistan. This will include work to build on the UN Security Council Resolution passed this afternoon that sent the clear message of what the international community expects the Taliban to deliver on moving forward, notably freedom of travel. The Taliban has made commitments on safe passage and the world will hold them to their commitments. It will include ongoing diplomacy in Afghanistan and coordination with partners in the region to reopen the airport allowing for continued departure for those who want to leave and delivery of humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan.

For now, I urge all Americans to join me in grateful prayer tonight for three things. First, for our troops and diplomats who carried out this mission of mercy in Kabul and at tremendous risk with such unparalleled results: an airlift that evacuated tens of thousands more people than any imagined possible. Second, to the network of volunteers and veterans who helped identify those needing evacuation, guide them to the airport, and provide support along the way. And third, to everyone who is now – and who will – welcome our Afghan allies to their new homes around the world, and in the United States.

Finally, I want to end with a moment of gratitude for the sacrifice of the 13 service members in Afghanistan who gave their lives last week to save tens of thousands: Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Darin T. Hoover, Marine Corps Sgt. Johanny Rosario Pichardo, Marine Corps Sgt. Nicole L. Gee, Marine Corps Cpl. Hunter Lopez, Marine Corps Cpl. Daegan W. Page, Marine Corps Cpl. Humberto A. Sanchez, Marine Corps Lance Cpl. David L. Espinoza, Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Jared M. Schmitz, Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Rylee J. McCollum, Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Dylan R. Merola, Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Kareem M. Nikoui, Navy Hospitalman Maxton W. Soviak and Army Staff Sgt. Ryan C. Knauss.

New Coronavirus Variant Detected In SA

A new coronavirus variant has been detected in South Africa and authorities from across the Limpopo River say the strain is already circulating in most of the country’s provinces.

Professor Barry Schoub says the C.1.2 is still being investigated, and whether it could be more dangerous than other variants of concern, remains to be seen. He said:

It’s a potential variant of interest. It is being investigated very intensively.

The C.1.2 was first detected in May, it may have been in circulation before, but it was first detected in May in South Africa.

In most of our provinces, in six of the nine provinces, it has been found. [It has been found] in a number of other countries as well, Europe, Asia and also other African countries, like the DRC for example.

So, it’s fairly widespread. It’s not confined to South Africa but was first detected in South Africa… at this stage, it’s still being investigated.

Is it going to be more severe? Is it going to escape our vaccine? Is it going to be more contagious?

These are unknown and they’re being investigated at the moment.- eNCA

Sikhala Warns Mnangagwa Against Suppressing People’s Constitutional Rights

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC Alliance vice chairperson Hon Job Sikhala has vowed to confront the Zanu PF leader Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa over the politicization of lockdown restrictions.

Mr Mnangagwa is taking advantage of lockdown restrictions to muzzle alternative voices, according to Hon Sikhala.

Zanu PF is holding party meeting in spite of the lockdown restrictions – while blocking perceived opponents from carrying out political programmes.

Writing on Twitter, Hon Sikhala warned Mnangagwa against using COVID-19 restrictions to suppress people’s constitutional rights.

“This is exactly what Emmerson Mnangagwa is doing to us.

There shall be moments when we make the Malema pronouncements.

Using lockdown to usurp people’s constitutional rights is a recipe for disaster.

Be warned, restore our political rights. We want our right to vote back.

Marko Haruzivishe is suffering. We need to do something. One of us can’t he kept in jail for such a long time and operate as if everything is normal.

There is need to raise the bar of demanding his immediate release.

He is suffering for democracy & the future of his generation,” argued Hon Sikhala.

Mnangagwa Has Failed…

Tinashe Sambiri|The Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa has failed in every front…

This was said by MDC Alliance Youth Assembly spokesperson Stephen Sarkozy Chuma in a statement on Monday.

This has been said at a time the nation is grappling with soaring prices of basic commodities.

Read Sarkozy’s presentation:

Prices Continue To Skyrocket…

…As Bread And Other Basic Commodities Are Now Beyond Reach Of Many

Basic commodities like bread, meat, sugar and cooking oil have become a luxury beyond reach of many particularly in rural areas and high density suburbs.

This is mainly due the runway prices which are a direct result of bushy economics of Emmerson Mnangagwa’s regime.

Despite lip service by his government that the economy is on the right direction, the situation at the ground tells a different tale.

It is sad that ever since Mnangagwa seized power through a coup in 2017, life for the ordinary citizen has become a nightmare due price hikes, power cuts, demolitions, and heightened political repression among a bag of worries shouldered by the people.

The situation in the country has reached another level with ordinary citizens scrounging for food as evidenced by the return of “tsaonas”.

What is more saddening is that amidst all this excruciating poverty faced by the people, the regime spend big on POLAD cartoon characters, chiefs cars, helicopters and statues among other extravagances.

Our problems are a manifestation of an illegitimate and failed leadership. In that front, we urge all young people to register to vote as we gear towards the next elections.

Mnangagwa has failed in every front- political, social and economic.

We need a new broom!

Understanding Peptic Ulcer Disease (Ulcers)

By Dr Ellane Simon
These are sores that develop in the lining of the esophagus, stomach and small intestines. This occurs when acid damages the lining of the digestive tract.
Causes include: H-pylori a bacterial infection, anti- inflammatory pain killers such as asprin, ibuprofen. Smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol, stress and spicy food worsens ulcers but do not cause them.
Those with ulcers usually complain of: burping, passing excessive gas, bloody or dark poop, pain between belly button and breast bone when hungry, sometimes after meals or after certain types of food.
Treatment should be administered by health professionals and these include medication to treat bacterial infection, drugs that reduce acid secretion and stopping all anti inflammatory drugs.
Lifestyle modifications include:

  1. Reducing alcohol or stopping alcohol.
  2. Weight reduction if overweight or obese.
  3. Reduce fatty foods and spices
  4. Stop smoking

Transformation Without Reforms Impossible

Tinashe Sambiri| MDC Alliance vice president Hon Tendai Biti has lampooned the clueless Zanu PF regime for “attempting to rig the economy.”

According to the former Finance Minister, economic growth without reforms is impossible.

Hon Biti also accused the Zanu PF regime of presenting false inflation figures.

“We submit once more that you can rig an election but not economy. You can create mascara of GDP growth rates or low inflation figures but like all mascara it can’t stand heat&water . Scrap the auction system , repeal SI 33/19 , SI142/19 , scrap the RBZ .Scrap #ZANU.

Many are naive enough to believe that there can be sustained real growth without structural reforms .This is not possible The Dutch auction system on which the regime & its acolytes pin all of hope of stabilization is rigged & a big fraud,” argued Hon Biti.

“The working families of Zimbabwe pay a further price of the rigged auction system in the form of inflation. The huge gap between the official exchange rate and the parallel market fuels inflation .Further with money being borrowed to finance the mirage of stability ….

…social services are suffering. Public health and public education are crippled .Civil servants are in a permanent stand off and teachers have withdrawn services for 2 years. There are no social safety nets. Covid and natural disasters have exposed structural vulnerabilities,” he added.

US Presses Mnangagwa To Bing Back Dzamara

By A Correspondent- The United States Embassy in Harare has expressed concern over Zimbabwe’s history of enforced disappearances of political activists and opposition members.
In a statement Monday, the Embassy called on the Zimbabwean government to account for its missing citizens.

Zimbabwe has a disturbing history of enforced disappearances of political activists and opposition members, with some still missing after several years. The Government of Zimbabwe continues to deny its complicity in enforced disappearances. #EnforcedDisappearances.
Among the nation’s prominent citizens who are yet to be accounted for is Itai Dzamara, a journalist-cum-political activist.

Dzamara was abducted by five suspected State agents while at a barbershop in Harare’s Glenview suburb on 9 March 2015 has not been seen since.

Below is a statement by United States Secretary of State, Anton Blinken to commemorate the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances:

On August 30, the United States marks the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances as established by the UN General Assembly in 2010.
The United States stands in solidarity with victims of the egregious crime of enforced disappearance and with the loved ones who live with the agony of their absence and the added pain of not knowing their whereabouts or fate.
Every year, friends and family members vanish after being arrested, detained or abducted by government officials or those working in concert with them or with their tacit assent.
Those responsible refuse to acknowledge the deprivation of liberty or conceal the victims’ fates and whereabouts.
Human rights defenders, political activists, environmental defenders, journalists and those who exercise their fundamental freedoms are often the targets of this egregious crime.
The United States strongly condemns all enforced disappearances and calls on governments to facilitate the return of and provide information about all victims of enforced disappearances and to undertake independent and transparent investigations into all such cases.
Governments must put an end to enforced disappearances, hold accountable those responsible, reveal the fate or whereabouts of loved ones who have been disappeared and respect the human rights and fundamental freedoms of all persons.

Mnangagwa In Private Chamisa 2023 Election Disqualification Plan

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa is privately planning to amend the constitution so that it disqualifies any political party with less than five years from contesting in the 2023 election.

This is happening at a time the MDC-Alliance leader; Nelson Chamisa is planning to change the name of his political coalition.

Below is Simba Chikanza’s piece outlining Mnangagwa’s ploy to disqualify Chamisa.

By Simba Chikanza- It’ll be extremely dangerous for Nelson Chamisa to change his party name, he’s in enough danger, already. Any change of name, is a metre closer to both endorsing and assuming military level crimes committed from 1 Aug ’18 onwards.

Those advising the people’s president are misleading him as they make him underestimate the notoriety of the ED-Mwonzora coalition because Chamisa’s chances of ever running Zimbabwe will dwindle under a new name. Already Mnangagwa is preparing to amend the constitution so that only parties with 5 years of existence will be allowed to contest, so Chamisa will have to wait for 5 years to participate after changing his party name (effectively launched a new entity). He will spend the next 2 years campaigning, and come July 2023, will arrive at the polling station to be told he does not qualify.

So, while the temptation is there, the best method is the middle of the road approach: confront. I have a lot to say here, but much which I have already demonstrated myself.

Mnangagwa’s life outside the borders can be put out easily and swiftly, and before it changes name, the MDC A needs to spend the next month using its last remaining powers to put out the criminals’ life outside the borders. This is how the criminal Ian Smith regime was put to an end, not by any bullet, bayonette or bomb, but using live legal ammunition. The MDC Alliance does have this strength, and I have proved it that this great party is simply too lazy, ignorant, or both, of the powers it has. On several occasions I have deployed some of these powers which are largely based on the 2018 election victory.
I am glad that I have also deployed some tools to help the Zambian people on 13 Aug. I am ready for question and answers but for now to say, please stop pushing President Chamisa to betray the blood of the innocent 2018 victims.

You change the party name, then what, you think you’ll penetrate ZEC, and outwit the Chinese model terror machinery because you’re popular? Even if Chamisa wins with 99% of the vote, Mnangagwa will still do the counting, and Mnangagwa retains the power to announce the results after which there is no viable recourse of appeal because the judiciary is Mnangagwa himself.

New methods are needed to deal with criminality and the type that’s in Zimbabwe cannot be cured by base ballotry. Having traveled in many countries and consulted some of the best legal brains around the world, I am ready to help this great party deal with this criminality. Source: Simba Chikanza

Hichilema Fires Zambia Coup Plotters

By A Correspondent- Zambia’s new President Hakainde Hichilema has fired former President Edgar Lungu’s top military brass.

HH made these major changes in the security on Sunday after he promised to end the previous regime’s heavy-handedness.

Right groups accused Hichilema’s predecessor Edgar Lungu of leading a “brutal crackdown” on dissent, with police violence claiming at least five lives since he was officially elected in 2016.

Hichilema, who took office last week, has been arrested over a dozen times during his political career and made restoring freedoms a linchpin of his electoral promises.

In a televised address to the nation, Hichilema announced the appointment of a new army and airforce chiefs and a new head of the southern African country’s defence wing.

“I am relieving all commissioners of police with immediate effect,” he added, without providing reasons for the replacements.

He also urged police to conduct thorough checks before detaining suspects, stressing that “no one should be arrested before investigations are concluded”.

Hichilema beat his long-term rival Lungu in 12 August polls by a landslide of almost one million votes — a victory hailed as a democratic milestone for opposition movements in Africa.

During his inauguration speech last Tuesday, he promised to crack down on political “thuggery” and repression, reassuring independent media they would no longer face tear gas or shutdowns.

Politics Behind Deportation

RGM Airport

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | Every nation makes a political statement about the foreigners in their country. The feeling against foreigners dates back to the beginning of time and humanity. Millions of pounds is invested in the business of removing foreigners who have overstayed their welcome. For some strange reason many politicians blame the foreigners for any failure in their administration. Despite millions of pounds dedicated to the Home Office the UK has made slower progress than expected in managing foreign national offenders, despite increased resources and tougher powers.
“It is no easy matter to manage foreign national offenders in the UK and to deport those who have completed their sentences. However, too little progress has been made, despite the increased resources and effort devoted to this problem. The Government’s focus on preventative measures and early action is promising, but it has only just started to exploit these options. It needs to build on the momentum of its recent action plan, in particular taking advantage of relatively inexpensive and straightforward opportunities to make progress.”
Amyas Morse, head of the National Audit Office”
Deportation, as a form of expulsion regulating human mobility is a practice of state power that reinforces its own sovereignty, renovating concepts such as ‘citizens’ and ‘aliens’ that establish the boundary between those who are included and those excluded, attributing certain benefits to the former that are denied to the latter. While an examination of practices of deportation is thus located at the intersection of several oppositions – such as citizen/foreigner, home/ away, mobility/emplacement, inclusion/exclusion and deserving/un- deserving – these are uneasy binaries, constantly challenged and re- shaped by different actors.
We must always remember that deportation is the enforced removal of non nationals who have breached immigration rules, whether because they are in that country illegally or because they are ‘over stayers’.

Now coming to the UK Removal from the UK is when the Secretary of State issues a Removal Notice to an individual informing them that they are required to leave the UK. This means any person who is subject of a deportation order has been sufficiently informed and is most probably aware that his removal from the UK is imminent.
So the outcry by some corners of society blaming the Home office and the Zimbabwean government of bundling people in a plane and dump them in Zimbabwe is a figment of their imagination. There is more to deportation the life lived and ended in one flight is a nightmare one will never wake from.
The good of being in a democratic space is that you have a freedom of speech even if the speech is full of nothing. However there is always no freedom after speech.
However the first bunch of Zimbabweans who were removed in July arrived home to a less informed journalist. Rueben Barwe who is a very senior journalist on the land made the arrival of the deportees a joke. He joked and laughed at their return and their language which made the nation to look at them with scorn. What we must realise is that the deportation of foreign nationals is pushed by a great domestic politics. In the United Kingdom the general public rates the success of any government by the number of foreigners they remove from the UK. Immigration becomes a deciding issue in the UK’s political space.
“The National Audit Office highlights the fact that the number of FNOs (Foreign national Offenders)in prison and the number deported from the UK have remained broadly unchanged since 2006.
Over that period, the number of foreign nationals in prison in the UK increased slightly (by 4%) from 10,231 to 10,649, despite a tenfold increase in the number of the Department’s staff working on FNO casework. After an initial surge in the number removed from 2,856 in 2006-07 to 5,613 in 2008-09 (following the problems in 2006 when the Department found that 1,013 FNOs had been released without being considered for deportation), removal numbers have declined to 5,097 in 2013-14. “ this changed in 2017 where the government was now able to remove the Foreign National offenders in large numbers. The government would hire a plane which would carry offenders from the Sourthen Africa and drop them in their respective countries. This has made people in The UK to trust their government.
So the larger part of these deportations is aimed at gaining trust. The majority of people are now satisfied that their government in under control of the foreigners.

The civic groups and pressure groups in the UK are now satisfied with the way the government is dealing with foreigners.
In fact these deportations we see now are the political campaigns and the Zimbabwean government has nothing to do with these deportations. The politics played elsewhere I’d s being danced Else where. .
Today’s reports recognises that the barriers to removal are considerable; “include FNOs exploiting legal and medical obstacles to removal. However, the spending watchdog identifies measures and opportunities for making progress which are not being maximized.”
The thrust in these removals to Zimbabwe is to save money and secure and maintain trust of the UK majority. The deportations are political and do not reflect our foreign policy.
The British argue that removal schemes also save money. They estimate that the 37% of those who left as part of the Early Removal Scheme in 2013-14 saved £27.5 million, by reducing the average number of days spent in prison by 146. The Department and Ministry of Justice do not use cost data to manage FNOs. The NAO estimates that, in 2013-14, public bodies spent £850 million on managing and removing FNOs – around £70,000 per FNO.
Current reliance on criminal justice and punitive rhetoric about the dangers embodied in foreign citizens is used in policy to secure the border, both in the UK and elsewhere. The increasing tendency towards governance through criminal law is prevalent in the management of migration through the practices of detention, bail, reporting and deportation, which not only allows for the close monitoring of foreign nationals but also reinforces the notion that the public needs protection from them. The policing and criminalisation of foreign na- tionals thus sends the message that foreigners pose a risk to society. Harsh immigration policies may be a symbol of strength, but one indicative of an actual weakness in authority and inadequate controls – it is indicative of government’s inability to control the border.
Enduring Uncertainty
But while policy is developed and applied, it may not be carried through to the end. There is an ‘increasing inability of states to conduct the kind of mass deportation campaigns they claim to aim for. For one thing, there is often a lack of cooperation from receiving states, which refuse to provide travel documents to deportable migrants. This is a hurdle Zimbabwe has overturned by willing to provide travel documents and going further to receive their nationals who are criminals. There are legal and human rights constraints and, through immigration appeals, deportation and removal can be delayed for long periods of time. Most foreign nationals for instance, have been appealing their deportation for over two years. The non-deportability of some foreign nationals leaves them in a legal limbo where they are not included in the host society even if they are physically present as they are prevented from actively participating in it.
Most Zimbabweans who have been deported are happier that they have left the UK. Not being able to work or actively plan their future and carry on with their lives, their existence in the UK is effectively interrupted even if they are still in the country. They are not even allowed to rent a room own a car or even open a bank account.
But while the decision to exclude migrants is reduced to that particular moment of their lives, when deciding on deportation appeals, the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal (AIT) does bear in mind the ‘circumstances, conduct, experiences, or relationships that tell a different story about the individual. That their lives were now dominated by that one moment in time when they were convicted was in fact all too present in their lives. They had become labelled as offenders, which, coupled with being foreigners, not only subjected them to deportation and state surveillance but also prevented them from openly re- sisting and protesting for their rights. It is true that most deportees are being punished twice they were incarcerated and served their sentences after which they are deported. This is the dark side of deportations and the reason why they crying foul.
Double punishment in these circumstances has been equated to ‘double jeopardy’in the sense that it ‘violates human rights norms of non-discrimination and presumptions of equality of treatment before the law’ and ‘negates the historical and psychological reality of third country nationals. Here again, lived concepts of citizenship and justice are at play, and stand in opposition to legal and institutionalised ones.
In illegality studies, de- portability is constructed as inherently tied to illegality. Deportability is a means of guaranteeing a vulnerable and cheap pool of ‘disposable’ labour were ‘some are deported in order that most may remain (undeported) – as workers, whose pronounced and protracted legal vulnerability may thus be sustained indefinitely.
To a larger extend the violation of moral norms is an offence conducive to deportation, a vague term that has the potential for arbitrary use, and hence leaves immigrants in a constant state of fear that is exploited by their employers and the police. This has led to spouses who are nationals to create fictitious charges against their spouses in order to have them deported.
In most cases deportees were experiencing their deportability only after deportation action was taken against them, as prior to criminal conviction most had been living legally in the UK for a number of years. Most did not have the memory of living in fear of being caught by immigration officials prior to their first time in detention. Their deportability is nevertheless an embodied experience: one expressed not in relation to ‘being caught’ but in appealing at the AIT and performing a good case, in complying with state orders and enduring uncertainty.
The relentless experience of living with the daily threat of physical removal’ and the aggressiveness of court hearings where it is decided whether or not one is desirable to the UK is the most embarrassing knee shaking experience ever to be experienced by any human being.
Every deportee you see arriving in Zimbabwe has a story of how that experience affected her life, the uncertainty of waiting, the difficulty of making basic decisions and what is called the ‘imposition of false guilt’ feeling responsible for what your family and close friends are going through on account of your imminent deportation. In many ways, deportation narrative mirrors those of other foreign nationals facing deportation from the UK. Their narratives, as highlight how the interruption of their existence in the UK is effected long before their actual removal from the territory. It is a process developing from the embodiment of their deportability as their present and future lives become suspended by the threat of ex- pulsion from their residence of choice.
There is more than politics behind each and every deportation. There is life emotions invested then wasted time. The politics of deportation is beyond the changani bags. Every person who walks the tar mark carries a lot and needs the support of each of us.
Despite their political beliefs the politics of deportation is covered in total discrimination and veiled in racism.

Munetsi “Harasses” Lionel Messi During PSG, Reims Clash

Lionel Messi made his debut for Paris Saint-German against Stade de Reims on Sunday, but the superstar was on the receiving end of a couple of rough challenges from Marshall Munetsi.

The Argentine came on as a 66th-minute replacement for Neymar, and Munetsi was assigned to man-mark him.

However, the six-time Ballon d’Or winner was fouled three times, and it was the Zimbabwean midfielder who was the culprit during both the take-ons and recoveries.

The Warriors star even hit him on the face in one incident, but luckily, he escaped without a booking.

PSG went on to win the match 2-0 courtesy of Kylian Mbappe’s brace, while Munetsi had a goal disallowed following VAR intervention.

The midfielder mopped in a rebound from a close range after Keylor Navas parried El Bilal Touré’s header onto his way just five minutes into the second half.

But after a review, it was found the striker was offside on the initial attempt, invalidating Munetsi’s goal.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Marshall Munetsi tussles with the great Lionel Messi

Unstoppable PSG Beat Munetsi’s Reims

Marshall Munetsi had a goal disallowed by VAR in Stade de Reims’ 2-0 to PSG on Sunday night.

The Zimbabwean midfielder mopped in a rebound from a close range after Keylor Navas parried El Bilal Touré’s header onto his way just five minutes into the second half.

However, after a review, it was found the striker was offside on the initial attempt, invalidating Munetsi’s goal.

Despite this, the Warriors star still achieved an overall decent show and was among the top performers for his team. He won most duels (ten) in the game and had a pass accuracy rate of 91%.

Munetsi also made eleven recoveries and two interceptions in entire ninety minutes he was on the pitch. – Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Benni McCarthy Slams Percy Tau Move To Egyptian Giants Al Ahly

South African football legend Benni McCarthy has criticised Percy Tau’s permanent transfer to the Al Ahly.

Tau signed a four year contract with the Egyptians giants after leaving English Premier League side Brighton and Hove.

The 27-year-old struggled for game time, playing just three EPL matches in three years and spent most of his time on loan in Belgium.

He then decided to move to North Africa and according to McCarthy, this showed the Bafana striker’s lack of willpower to fight for a place in the Brighton squad, and he also believes the transfer sends a bad signal about South African players in Europe.

“I am also a bit taken aback by his decision of going to Al Ahly but he’s not gone to just any team,” McCarthy told South African Football Journalists’ Association, as cited by Goal.com.

“He’s gone to a team where he’s always going to live the limelight, but on the African continent.

“And him making that decision, which I know is probably just people’s opinion and the way they think in a negative way, has just made it kind of clear that this is what South African players are like, that they don’t have strong willpower, they don’t have a strong mentality, that when the going gets tough, they would rather take themselves out of the equation.

McCarthy added: “As good as Al Ahly is, they are still in Africa. They are not in the European continent, they don’t play against the best players in the world, they don’t play week in and week out against the Liverpool’s, Chelsea’s, Man United’s, the Tottenham Hotspur’s.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

ZLHR STATEMENT ON INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE VICTIMS OF ENFORCED DISAPPEARANCES

ON International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) calls upon Zimbabwean authorities to publicly denounce and desist from the practice of enforced disappearances.

In addition, ZLHR demands that authorities swiftly respond and investigate all reports of enforced disappearances and prosecute the perpetrators.

International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances is observed every year on 30 August in order to draw attention to the detestable practice of enforced disappearances by governments all around the world.

An enforced disappearance can be defined as any arrest, abduction or detention against one’s will that is orchestrated by or endorsed by a government official or officials, its representatives or its supporters. Significantly, the United Nations General Assembly has
declared that systematic enforced disappearances amount to crimes against humanity.

An element of enforced disappearances is that the responsible government refuses to acknowledge the deprivation of liberty or to disclose the fate or whereabouts of the persons concerned. This effectively places the disappeared outside the protection of the law and renders them extremely vulnerable to gross human rights violations at the hands of their captors. The rights that are typically affected when a person is disappeared include the right to liberty and security of the person, the right not to be subjected to torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, the right to human dignity, the right to health and the right to life, when the disappeared person is murdered. The adverse effects of an enforced disappearance extend to the victim’s relatives and friends in the form of psychological trauma and the deprivation of a source of economic livelihood, where the disappeared person was the breadwinner of the family.

In Zimbabwe, enforced disappearances remain a scourge and a constant threat to the peaceful existence of certain groups of people in the country. In the recent past, the victims of enforced disappearances have included usually human rights defenders and members of opposition political parties. The victims have been subjected to inhumane treatment at the hands of their captors and some of the victims remain missing to this day. The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has made it increasingly difficult for people to search for disappeared persons and for authorities to effectively investigate reports of enforced
disappearances. However, these challenges do not relieve the authorities of their obligation to investigate these disappearances.

In these difficult times, it becomes more imperative for the authorities to react promptly to reports of enforced disappearances in order minimise the potential harm that the victims would be exposed to. In addition, the authorities are obliged to hold the perpetrators
accountable for the disappearances through prosecutions.

On this International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances,

ZLHR calls upon:
•       The Zimbabwean authorities to publicly denounce and desist from the practice of enforced disappearances;
•       The authorities to swiftly respond to all reports of enforced disappearances, with the aim of completely eradicating this despicable practice from society;
•       Members of the public to join the rest of the world in demanding the prompt release of all victims and the prosecution of the perpetrators of the disappearances.

Wiwa Confronts Mnangagwa Over Politicization Of Lockdown ….

Skyrocketing Prices- A Sign Of Mnangagwa’s Dismal Failure- Sarkozy

“Teachers Are Being Murdered By ED;s Govt”

Teachers being emotionally and physically murdered by the Zmbabwean government through denying them a decent wage.

By Dr Tawanda Wallace Mataka- In Zimbabwe it has become a curse to be a civil servant especially a teacher. The successive governments from the former President to the current have a total dislike and hatred for teachers yet they are the same people entrusted with civilizing the children and young adults in the world.

Teachers have been emotionally murdered and some in cold blood because they are presumed to be aligned to the Movement for Democratic Change led by Nelson Chamisa and previously Morgan Tsvangirayi. The punishment by the former leader was depriving them a salary adjustment.

Lives of teachers improved between 2008 and 2018 July because they were being paid in United States dollars and the economy was stable under the stewardship of Honourable Tendai Biti. Upon the establishment of the so called second republic, life of teachers has become traumatizing. At one point their salary was under US35 dollars.

This is made worse by a cruel finance minister whose dislike for teachers is sickening. This is a man whom I have nicknamed ‘Mr Surplus’. Every time he opens his mouth, he does not skip the word surplus. He has declared surpluses but teachers have no salaries that can sustain them for a week with their families. Worse still hospital bills. Teachers in Zimbabwe cannot afford specialized treatment for any ailment.

Luck are those who have a diaspora families that have decent jobs but the majority do not have. Some ministries have caring and forceful ministers who can challenge the bullish attitude of the finance minister and his secretary.

For instance the minister of higher education has fought for his lecturers and they have a decent salary and it has happened in the ministry of health. For teachers it is unfortunate and tragic that the minister, secretary and those that claim to stand for teachers seemingly are toothless.

Worse among them is a minister whom every time teachers complain about meagre salaries he threatens to fire them. The most worrying about the minister of finance, minister of education and secretary do not care about their own in  Matabeleland.

They are on an overdrive to destroy the few schools left in Matabelelend by making sure teachers are frustrated and resign enmass from the region, those who are keen to develop the schools in the region are frustrated until they leave. And you ask if they will be able to listen to anyone when they cannot help in their background. Further, the language they speak when faced with teachers concerns is vitriolic.

It is full of hate and anger. One wonders if they are there to serve or they are there for their personal interests. It is my strong belief that the minister of finance is on a mission to get all that he lost when his financial institution was closed and I doubt if he pays himself using useless RTGs.

To show that the minister is not for Zimbabwe, his family does not stay in Zimbabwe they stay in one of the most stable and developed countries in the world. In that regard, can you entrust the lives of the people of Zimbabwe with that person? I really doubt.

His secretary is a filthy rich individual who worked for the most prominent bank in Zimbabwe and he has enough to sustain himself and family for a life time and my assumption is that his children attend the best schools in Zimbabwe when our own are in public schools with unpaid teachers and without infrastructure.

The killing of teachers is equals to killing the children of the marginalised. Children of the poor are being deprived education by this cabal. The result is a continual intergenerational cycle of poverty. The child of the peasant will remain a gardener and a house maid of these politicians.

The child of the teacher will never become a teacher because the parent who is a teacher cannot afford to take him through school even that school he or she is teaching because the fees are beyond his/her rich.

Teachers in Zimbabwe have become a laughing stock by maids and gardeners in our neighbouring countries because they earn better and the economies in those countries are stable. This is painful, considering the role that a teacher plays in making sure that a country is stable, it is productive and it has a running economy.

When teachers complain of meagre salaries police and soldiers are send to brutalise them and the next day they send their kids to the same classes where the teacher has been beaten and injured. Zimbabwe has turned out to be a military state that no longer values civil liberties. Teachers are now surviving on other income generating activities to survive. They go to schools to teach because of the love for the innocent children.

However, the situation prevailing is a recipe for disaster. These children who are being neglected are going to be a thorn in the flesh of future governments and the country. More worse crime rate is going to be the worst in the region or even in Africa. The police and the army shall be outnumbered and illegal fire arms are going to be littered all over.

The monies that are being deprived teachers are going to be difficult to enjoy because the number of the have nots and angry citizens will be outnumbering the haves. I am utterly surprised that whoever is advising the powers that be is not being critical to this level.

Zimbabwean leaders must behave like other sensible leaders who value the welfare of teachers for a better Zimbabwe. Countries like Germany, Tunisia, Botswana, and South Africa pay their teachers and they are listened to. Whether the system like it or not the teacher will always remain the game changer in any given political set up. It is a travesty of justice to not listen to the concerns of teachers.

The children they are teaching are very much aware and one day they shall revenge on behalf of their teachers. It may be seen as far-fetched but it is going to happen and those who are busy looting shall be made to account. Leaders occupying political offices should remember that change comes or occurs when you least expect it.

Attend to the needs of teachers so that Zimbabwe reclaim its former glory as the education hub of Africa. I salute my colleagues in the trenches of Zimbabwean education who are assisting the kids in Zimbabwe. However, their love for the kids must not be taken to imply docility. They can change and once they agree that enough is enough you will not be able to handle the situation. And do not underestimate the power of those kids in schools, they can be another 1976 South African generation. Today they are in court demanding that teachers go back to school but tomorrow they will be telling you that we will not attend classes nor write exams until you pay our teachers a decent wage.

Lastly I encourage all the teachers unions in Zimbabwe to fight jointly for the life of teachers and the children of Zimbabwe. I also would like thank those members of Parliament like Temba Mliswa, Priscilla Misihairambwi and a few others to keep on fighting for the plight of teachers in parliament. It is a well-known fact that the majority of the members of parliament want to teachers suffering so that they manipulate them continuously in their constituencies.

Electric Gate Motor Thieves On The Prowl

One of Zimbabwe’s leading security companies has warned that there has been a spate of electric gate motor thefts in parts of Harare and urged householders with electric gates to ensure that their gate motors are well secured and even alarmed.

Safeguard Engineering manager Tinarwo Chiremba said there are several things that can be done to guard against gate motor theft.

“Replacing a gate motor is costly. Moreover, your premises are less secure when the gate has to be opened and closed manually as a result of your gate motor having been stolen.

“We are urging anyone who has an electric gate, therefore, to make sure it is secure, since there has been a spate of electric gate motor thefts recently,” he said.

Mr Chiremba warned those who were considering installing an electric gate to ensure they
engaged a reputable company to provide and install it.

“When choosing your installer, make sure that the company has a good track record. The
cheapest contractor is not always the best.

“Once installation is done, you need to ensure that the base of the gate motor cage has been secured deep into the ground with concrete so that thieves cannot easily pull it out. We have heard of gate motors being stolen together with the protective cage because it was not installed properly,” he said.

He said the electric gate itself should have an anti-lift bracket to prevent the gate being opened by lifting it off its rail.

The quality of the lock with which the cage is secured is important too, he pointed out.

“At Safeguard we provide steel cages which are secured by insurance-locks or queen-locks,
which are regarded internationally as some of the world’s best locks. We would recommend that locks such as these be used to secure all gate motor cages,” he said.

“After you have ensured that the physical security is up to standard you can go on further to
install a sound-bomb, which is a loud localised alarm that is triggered whenever the cage has been opened. We usually recommend that the sound bomb be placed next to the intercom in the house.

“We also recommend that a second sound-bomb be installed in the cage that will sound when the cage is tampered with. This may work as a deterrent to thieves, who may abandon their attempt to steal the motor when they hear the alarm go off.,” Mr Chiremba added.

He said those with alarm systems installed in their homes can have a sensor installed in the cage linked to the alarm so that the alarm is triggered whenever the cage is opened.

GATE TWO LAST
“If the alarm system is radio linked to our rapid response service, this will also trigger the
despatch of a response team,” he said.

Mr Chiremba said some of the new gate motors that Safeguard supplies, such as the Centurion D5 motor, come equipped with a vibrating alarm that is triggered by motion and goes off before the cage has been opened.

He said perimeter and outdoor security were important for both residential and business premises and a major deterrent to thieves.

“Electric fences can play an important role in securing your property. In addition, your electric fence energiser can be linked to your gate so that an alarm goes off whenever the gate is forced open,” he said.

“There are also a range of wireless alarms that can be installed to watch over your gate motor, swimming pool pump or any other area within your yard such as the Roboguard, which you can install yourself or ask Safeguard to install,” he added.

He explained that Roboguard is a stand-alone battery operated wireless automatic outdoor
motion detection system that uses passive infrared sensor beams that can pick up any movement up to 20 metres away.

When motion is detected, he said, an alert is instantly triggered at the HQ control panel inside the house.

Peptic Ulcer Disease (Ulcers)

Mnangagwa Secretly Changing Constitution To Ban Chamisa for 5yrs Upon Party NameChange

He will spend the next 2 years campaigning, and come July 2023, will arrive at the polling station to be told he is does not qualify.

By Simba Chikanza | PART 1 | It’ll be extremely dangerous for Nelson Chamisa to change his party name, he’s in enough danger, already. Any change of name, is a metre closer to both endorsing and assuming military level crimes committed from 1 Aug ’18 onwards.

By Simba Chikanza | PART 1 | It’ll be extremely dangerous for Nelson Chamisa to change his party name, he’s in enough danger, already. Any change of name, is a metre closer to both endorsing and assuming military level crimes committed from 1 Aug ’18 onwards.

Emmerson Mnangagwa-and- Luke Malaba-

Those advising the people’s president are misleading him as they make him underestimate the notoriety of the ED-Mwonzora coalition because Chamisa’s chances of ever running Zimbabwe will dwindle under a new name. Already Mnangagwa is preparing to amend the constitution so that only parties with 5 years of existence will be allowed to contest, so Chamisa will have to wait for 5 years to contest after changing his party name (effectively launched a new entity).

I am glad that I have also deployed some of these tools to help the Zambian people on 13 Aug.

Two artisanal gold miners died in Mushandike resettlement area after a mine shaft they
were digging for gold collapsed and trapped them on Saturday.

The trio had entered the shaft the previous evening around 8pm for the night shift when
disaster struck.

attended the scene bodies of the deceased had already been retrieved from the shaft by
their colleagues.

FULL TEXT: Desist From Practice Of Enforced Disappearance, Govt Told

Significantly, the United Nations General Assembly has declared that systematic enforced disappearances amount to crimes against humanity.

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has made it increasingly difficult for people to search for disappeared persons and for authorities to effectively investigate reports of enforced disappearances.

However, these challenges do not relieve the authorities of their obligation to investigate these disappearances. In these difficult times, it becomes more imperative for the authorities to react promptly to reports of enforced disappearances in order minimise the potential harm that the victims would be exposed to. In addition, the authorities are obliged to hold the perpetrators accountable for the disappearances through prosecutions.

On this International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, ZLHR calls upon:

• The Zimbabwean authorities to publicly denounce and desist from the practice of enforced disappearances;

• The authorities to swiftly respond to all reports of enforced disappearances, with the aim of completely eradicating this despicable practice from society;

• Members of the public to join the rest of the world in demanding the prompt release of all victims and the prosecution of the perpetrators of the disappearances.

“We Are Underutilised”: ZEC

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) says very few people are visiting its voter registration centres, saying they are seriously underutilised.

Some people choose to register to vote when a general election draws close but ZEC said that its centres dotted across the country are always open in between elections.

Responding to a Twitter user who had accused the electoral body of being controlled by ZANU PF and also demanded the establishment of more voter registration centres in urban areas, ZEC said:

Voter registration is continuous. If you are not registered, follow this link Consolidated ZEC Addresses to find a voter registration centre near you.

We are not controlled by anyone. However, more centres will be open according to demand.

Encourage your friends to use the current static voter registration centres which are seriously underutilised.

Meanwhile, ZEC added only six people to the voters’ roll in May in Masvingo Province.

The Deputy Provincial Election Officer (PEO) Maxwell Ncube told said that not too many people were coming to register to vote due to attitudes that make them want to register at the 11th hour.

Gwanda Student Takes Teachers To Court Over Industrial Action

A learner at Mafuko Primary School in Gwanda district in Matabeleland South has
approached the High Court on an urgent basis seeking an order barring teachers in public
schools from embarking on an industrial action over poor salaries and working conditions.

In papers before the court, the Zimbabwe Teachers Association (Zimta), Zimbabwe
Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions, Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe
(PTUZ), Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ), the chairperson of the
Public Service Commission, Dr Vincent Hungwe, Primary and Secondary Education
Minister Cain Mathema, Minister of Public Service, Labour and social Welfare Professor
Paul Mavima and Minister of Finance and Economic Development Professor Mthuli Ncube,
were cited as respondents.

The application follows the recent threats by teachers not resume work when schools
reopen for the second term in the event their demands for better working conditions are
not met by the Government.

Teachers are demanding that Government pay them US$550 or its equivalent in local
currency.

In her founding affidavit, Ms Nyathi said the actions of the cited teacher unions and their
members to refuse to take up classes over salary grievances and improved working
conditions teachers coupled with the non-intervention of the Government constitutes a
violation of the children’s rights to education as enshrined in sections 75 and 81 of the
country’s Constitution.

She wants the teachers’ unions together with their members interdicted from boycotting
classes with all teachers being directed to report for duty within 48 hours of the granting
of the order.

“I further seek ancillary relief to the effect that the Government be ordered and mandated
to provide teaching staff to ensure that there would be no interruption of teaching services
or classes in all public primary and secondary schools in Zimbabwe so that the rights of
the children are not violated,” said Ms Nyathi.

The applicant said in the event that the teachers refuse to comply, Government should be
directed to take all measures to ensure that there is no interruption of classes in all public
schools.

Government recently warned that teachers going on strike will be fired or at the very least
face suspension of pay after activation of systems to track the malpractices.

It is standard labour practice around the world that striking workers are not paid, even
when their strike is considered legal. Those whose strike is legal cannot be fired for not
attending work, but are still not paid while away.

Learner Approches The Court Seeking To Bar Teachers’ imminent Industrial Action

By A Correspondent- A 9 year old learner at Mafuko Primary School in Gwanda district in Matabeleland South has approached the High Court on an urgent basis seeking an order barring teachers in public schools from embarking on industrial action.

The minor Amohelang Ulukile Dube, who is being presented by her grandmother, Senzeni Nyathi, through her lawyers Ndove and Associates, filed an urgent chamber application at the High Court in Bulawayo.

Dube wants the High Court to bar teachers from going on strike over poor salaries and working conditions.

In papers before the court, the Zimbabwe Teachers Association (Zimta), Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions, Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ), Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ), the chairperson of the Public Service Commission, Dr Vincent Hungwe, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Cain Mathema, Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Professor Paul Mavima and Minister of Finance and Economic Development Professor Mthuli Ncube, were cited as respondents.

The application follows the recent threats by teachers not to resume work when schools reopen for the second term.

The teachers are pushing for US$550 per month or its equivalent in local currency from the government and have threatened to boycott classes if their demands are not met.

In her founding affidavit, Nyathi said the actions of the cited teacher unions and their members to refuse to take up classes constitutes a violation of the children’s rights to education as enshrined in sections 75 and 81 of the country’s Constitution.

She wants the teachers’ unions together with their members interdicted from boycotting classes with all teachers being directed to report for duty within 48 hours of the granting of the order.

The applicant said in the event that the teachers refuse to comply, Government should be directed to take all measures to ensure that there is no interruption of classes in all public schools.

Madam Boss In No Show At Young Women For ED Event?

By A Correspondent- Social media celebrity Tarisai Chikocho, popularly known as Madam Boss in showbiz circles, was conspicuous by her absence on Friday when a group of women under the banner Young Women for ED (Economic Development) met President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Pictures of the women, especially Madam Boss’ fellow comedienne Felistas Murata Edwards, aka Mai TT, posing for photos with Mnangagwa at State House went viral, but Madam Boss, who has a penchant for photo shoots, could not be located in any of the pictures.

This publication also established that when the Young Women for ED project was launched by first lady Auxillia Mnangagwa on August 13, Madam Boss was not part of the proceedings.

The Young Women for ED project is one of a plethora of schemes spearheaded by Zanu PF-aligned businesspeople to prop up support for Mnangagwa.

The project and many others, according to sources, are being coordinated by businesswoman Zodwa Mkandla.

Mkandla was recently appointed among a six-member fundraising committee for Zanu PF that will be reporting to the party secretary for finance Patrick Chinamasa.

The committee is chaired by flamboyant businessman Philip Chiyangwa and other members include businessman Tafadzwa Musarara, miner Scott Sakupwanya, Mkandla and Antony Pote.

The much-debated song by Rockford Roki Josphats featuring Congolese rhumba star Koffie Olomide and Tanzanian sensation Rayvanny titled Patati Patata is also part of the grand plan that seeks to lure the youths to rally behind Mnangagwa in the 2023 election.

“Madam Boss was recently ‘united’ with frenemy Mai TT and they have been hanging around together,” said a source close to the goings on.

“The duo recently showed off latest cars acquired for them by the businesspeople, popularly known as mbinga, and were handed over to them through Prophet Passion Java.”

Since receiving the top-of-the-range, Mercedes Benz Compressors from Java, the comediennes have been seen on numerous ocassions in the company of the controversial preacher and Roki.

However, on Friday Madam Boss was not part of the women who visited the president at State House and Mai TT was the entertainment personality there.

“Madam Boss could have snubbed the State House visit in a bid to save her underfire image and disassociate herself from Zanu PF,” the source said.

“She has been representing many corporate brands that might not want her to associate their name with Zanu PF and ED [Mnangagwa].”

Madam Boss has made insensitive remarks, trivialising protests over the death of a minor giving birth at a Marange church shrine.

Social media users came out guns blazing attacking Madam Boss over her insensitive remarks.

Zanu PF Seke-Chikomba women’s quota MP Tatenda Mavetera, a former actress, said the Young Women for ED initiative had nothing to do with the ruling party, but was actually an agenda meant to empower young women.

“This programme was launched on August 13 by first lady Auxillia Mnangagwa through Honourable Oppah Muchinguri,” said Mavetera.

“The notable people, who participated on the day, are Fungisai Mashavave, Sandra Ndebele, Mai Titi and Pauline Gundidza [Roki’s ex-wife].

“What we just want is to have an all-inclusive agenda which fosters economic development being spearheaded by President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Thats what we want!

“Since it is an all-inclusive agenda we even had Linda Masarira from the opposition and agro-based people because it’s an agro-based programme, which will look at advancing development at all levels.

“We are happy that the second republic has an all-inclusive agenda. But what we need to appreciate is that we as young women are happy to that, where we felt left out we are being recognised.”

Mavetera, without mentioning names, said some members of the initiative did not attend the State House event.

ZAMBIA: Is HH Paranoid?

By Chimwemwe Mwanza| The sight of an unfamiliar aide de camp (ADC) presiding over President Hakainde Hichilema’s (HH)’s security detail at his inauguration, elicited a sharp rebuke from Raphael Nakachinda.

The charge? Nakachinda who is the former Water Development and Sanitation Minister in the PF government lashed out at HH accusing him of excessive paranoia – this as demonstrated by the President’s decision to co-opt civilians in his security team. While it may be tempting to dismiss Nakachinda’s rebuke as mere politicking, his message certainly has a tacit bearing on HH’s political judgement or lack-off.

Then amidst this moment of madness, UPND Secretary General, Batuke Imenda releases an unsolicited statement to the effect that HH won’t be taking up residency at state house but would instead be conducting his state duties from his private residency in New Kasama. This clumsy statement simply lent credence to Nakachinda’s charge.
A subsequent but balanced view from Lusaka lawyer Dickson Jere not only exposed security lapses at HH’s private residency but justified reasons for the urgent need by the President to move to State House. As a former Press Aide to the fourth Republican President Rupiah Banda, no one is a better subject matter expert on State House security than Jere – he has obviously traversed every inch of State House hence his view inadvertently served to reinforce Nakachinda’s assertion.

Here is a simple interpretation of both Nakachinda’s narrative and Imenda’s reckless statement. Simply put: HH is clumsy or at least is a reckless leader, period.
So, what then is Nakachinda’s angst? Easy to comprehend. The fact that the new President has set a high moral bar is indisputable. HH’s victory speech delivered shortly after he was declared winner of the Presidential polls was a master stroke – very conciliatory and magnanimous which is why, no mud thrown at his persona has stuck to date. He has displayed nothing but political maturity since assuming office –and there seems to be a return of decorum to the Presidency.
Enter Nakachinda – this spoiler is fast becoming a poster boy for mud-slinging politics. While his grievances border on pettiness, he seems to have an uncanny way of elevating these to national discourse; and he knows very well how to land a sucker punch, at least give him some credit. For example, look at his views on free education as espoused in the UPND manifesto.

Although reckless in the manner of delivery, he is within his right to ask Zambians to stop paying school fees – this to honour UPND’s promise of free education once it assumes power. In truth, it is UPND and not Nakachinda that authored this manifesto, and all he is simply doing is holding them to account. Yet the caveat is that the manifesto does not give a time frame by when UPND would implement its promise, and this is something that he willfully forgets to mention.
The strategy is to prey on frustrations of the struggling working class. It is this segment of a mass coalition that helped to eject his former employers from government and his hope is to use the same base to help reverse the roles, come 2026. Who knows, five years from now, the free education mantra could well become the UPND’s comeuppance – pretty much like a PF’s ‘More Money in Your Pockets’ moment.

Is HH paranoid?

Only he can answer. In the absence of a firm response, attention will shift to his actions and optics do matter in politics. But here is a critical point. HH has no obligation whatsoever to return former President Edgar Lungu’s securocrats. In fairness, they have consistently demonstrated their bias against his security interests. It is sacked Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja that sent a battalion of policemen to smoke him out of a bunker in his house – from where he was hiding in fear of persecution.

Having charged him with a laughable treason case, the same police establishment threw him into a tiny Lilayi prison cell where he spent almost 100 days in solitary confinement. It is them that consistently blocked him from crisscrossing the country in the build up to elections. It is them that denied him air permits to fly and campaign across the country. It is them that locked him at the airport for almost three hours before granting him a permit to campaign in Chipata. It is them and a part of the PF establishment that were on standby in the streets ready to pounce on him and possibly send him back to Lilayi had he lost the election – lest we forget the ‘umulandu tawu bola’ reminder issued by one losing Presidential candidate prior to the elections.

How convenient then that he should suddenly be made to feel guilty for taking responsibility of his own security detail? Mind you, the likes of Nakachinda are graduates of the PF’s vuvuzela and social media mob that easily drowns intellectual discourse. Theirs has been and is still diversionary politics whose mission has been to litigate and relitigate non-existent issues so their target or critics could be vilified in a court of public opinion. Thanks in part to an electorate weary of regurgitated lies, their luck has finally run out – hence the flood in public apologies we are reading and heading HH’s way.

Here are facts though. HH is in no way a political messiah that has come to liberate Zambia from poverty, and he needs to stop pretending as such. The election is over, he better start tapering down and focus on moderating people’s expectations. His recent statement that state coffers were empty made shortly after he announced Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane’s appointment as the new Finance Minister was not only a start but offered an indication that he is slowly awakening to reality.

And the reality is that the economic wrought presided over by PF has effectively hollowed Zambia’s economic and industrial base. For example, ZESCO’s debt alone is north of 25% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Any recall of the power utility’s loans by its lenders would be catastrophic enough to plunge the country into economic distress. Our mining industry is literally limping amid a commodities boom. But such is our reality that it seems as if the PF’s raison d’etre was to destroy every productive sector of the economy.

In addition, the Covid-19 pandemic has not only cut the global supply chain but will continue to impact key industries such as tourism. The task of rebuilding the economy will require tough choices and possible elimination of social spending – a development that will likely alienate the UPND from its electoral coalition. The consolation though is that he has both the goodwill and social capital including an emphatic mandate he could use as a buffer for speaking truth to reality.

He not only has investors waiting to deploy capital into Zambia, but the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is waiting to lend a hand. That the local currency and its dollar bonds appreciated to become the world’s best performers barely a week since he assumed office is telling of investor confidence in his regime. As a proven businessman, he sits on the right side of integrity, yet all this could count for nothing if he fails to meet even a fraction of his promises to the electorate.

Yet he needs to be consistently reminded that running a country is different to managing a business which is why no one is better placed to provide these checks and balances than the likes of Nakachinda and his ilk.

Mliswa Exposes Zanu PF Over War Veterans’ Welfare

By A Correspondent| Norton legislator, Temba Mliswa has exposed the Zanu-PF government of dismally failing to look after ex-combatants since independence in 1980.

Posting on his Twitter page, the controversial politician expressed shock that despite being led by war veterans, the government had done too little to improve the welfare of the former freedom fighters.

Mliswa’s remarks comes a few days after nine war veterans were arrested for picketing at Finance minister Professor Mthuli Ncube’s office demanding better pensions.

“This war veterans issue has triggered a lot and revealed how they need to liberate themselves. Government has failed to look after them, failing to deliver basics such as healthcare since 1980,” Mliswa wrote.

“It is ironic and pitiful how a government run by war veterans has failed to look after their own. They were once given money from the United Nations way back, but it was squandered and the government later had to go into a national fiasco after they demonstrated.”

Shock As Boyfriend Catches Girlfriend In Bed With Own Brother

By A Correspondent- A Rushinga man bedded his sister in bid to have her healed as directed by prophets.

David Jonasi of Chitange area performed the se_xual healing process on his married sister who had been unwell for some times before she was sent back to her patrimonial home for her family to help her get medical attention.

“I did that because I was so desperate to be healed of my illness and we performed the act three times – twice in the forest under a tree and the last one at home,” said Jonasi’s sister.

The incestuous case was unearthed by one Blessmore Mavura who was a boyfriend to Jonasi’s sister.

Mavura said he suspected an indecent act between Jonasi and his sister such that he tracked their movements and finally he arrived at Jonasi’s home during the night and he knocked the door expecting to get a response from his girlfriend but Jonasi replied him shouting.

“Jonasi fumed while inside his sister’s room.

“I called alarming the neighbours and some villagers gathered at Jonasi’s home to witness the act,” said Mavura.

Jonasi was manhandled by the mob and it was referred to Headman Chitsakani.

Headman Chitsakani fined them five beasts and five goats.

Hindu Temples Reopen in Harare For Vaccinated Devotees Only

By A Correspondent| Two Hindu temples in Harare, run by Hindu Society Harare (HSH), which have reportedly been closed for months due to COVID-19, have reopened; but entry is restricted for community members “who have had both doses of COVID 19 vaccination”.

Society’s notice issued on August 27 states: …The Anson Road Mandir is also open for all prayer and bhajan groups who wish to recommence their sessions…Please show the guard your vaccination card at the point of entry of the Anson Road Mandir…

Janmastami (which celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna) day ceremonies; which include bhajans, thaal arti, prasad; will be held at Anson Road Mandir on August 30 from 03:30 pm to 05:30 pm. But the evening Janmastami ceremonies, performed by priest and his family at Anson Road Mandir will be broadcast live on YouTube and Society’s Facebook.

Commending HSH for attempting necessary precautions and actions to combat deadly coronavirus and educating the community, distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, urged Hindus to draw closer to God through prayer during COVID-19.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, suggested Hindus to pray at least twice daily in their home shrines with total devotion and pure heart. These prayers might include making offerings to ista-devata, chanting mantras, reading sacred texts, performing aarti and bhajans, doing puja, etc.

Hindus are God’s people, full of courage and generosity. Petition God for the common good of all the local and world communities during these times of confusion and suffering, Rajan Zed says.

Cameron Street Shree Omkar Mandir celebrated 90th anniversary in February 2019, while 25th anniversary of Ridgeview Shree Omkar Mandir was observed in 2017. HSH “intends to publish a written record” of the hundred years of “community’s existence in Zimbabwe”.

In the pre-COVID-19 times, HSH reportedly had been conducting various bhajan events, twice-weekly yoga classes, Hindi lessons, cultural/social activities; organized daily aarti at both the temples with Havan on Sundays; and offered funeral assistance for bereaved families; etc.; besides running Mahila Mandal, Shishu Mandal and Yuvak Mandal. HSH has also been running various schools—Westridge High School, Westridge Primary School, Gujarati School.  Hinduism is the oldest and third largest religion of the world with about 1.2 billion adherents and moksh (liberation) is its ultimate goal

Cheating Woman Threatens Suicide

By A Correspondent- A young Rushinga wife who had been threatening her husband with committing suicide after being caught having adul_tery was finally allowed to separate after the boyfriend was fined by Chief’s Court.

Ruth Kamuriwo appeared before Chief Rusambo saying her husband Andrew Gwati had been neglecting her for almost nine months while staying in Harare.

“I need to know that we are still together or I’m no longer your wife?

“If so please I need to know the truth before this court,” said Kamuriwo.

Gwati said he was the one who was supposed to file for divorce not the wife who was caught cheating.

“I’m totally dumbfound.

“I am a victim of her misdeeds; she committed an adul_tery.

“When I was told that I kept my composure because I was away in Harare and I came home and she admitted to cheating.

“My wife threatened me to commit suicide if I disclosed the case to the people but I told my parents and my aunty and we forgave her,” said Gwati.

Gabriel Gwezere who is Kamuriwo’s boyfriend pleaded guilty and was fined three beasts.

Chief Rusambo also warned Gwati that he should not have hesitated to report his wife after committing such act.

“Zambia Taught Army, They Are Employed By Povo Not Zanu Pf” Said MDC A, Being Naive Or Conning Povo

By Nomusa Garikai- The sheer naivety of Zimbabwe’s opposition is certainly one of the top-five main reasons why the country is stuck is this economic mess and political paralysis – as both the ruling party and the opposition are clearly clueless how to get the nation out of the mess.

“This (the election of Hatiendi Hichilema in Zambia) encourages us to go and register to vote. It educates that the military, central Intelligence organisation officers and Police must know that they are employed by Zimbabweans not a political party,” said Felix Magalela Mafa Sibanda, MDC Alliance deputy spokesperson.

“In short that means institutions of government must be professional knowing that they work for the nation not a political organisation, because political ruler-ship may end.”

So, MDC A leaders acknowledge Zimbabwe’s institutions of government including the Army, Police, Judiciary and ZEC have NOT been professional. This would be seen as significant progress on the part of Nelson Chamisa and company, if only the leaders would remember and, better still, act on the realities.

Nelson Chamisa and his MDC friends certainly forgot, if they had ever acknowledged it, that Zimbabwe’s state institutions were not professional throughout the five years of the 2008 to 2013 GNU. How else other than forgetfulness can only explain why MDC leaders failed to implement even one reform to break the strangle hold Zanu PF has on all state institutions.

Of course, acknowledging that the Army, Police, etc. are not profession was one thing; knowing what must be done about it in another. It is disheartening to note that Mr Nelson Chamisa and his team are convinced what has happened in Zambia is enough to “educate” our Army, Police, ZEC, etc. that they are employed by the people and not Zanu PF! How naïve and gullible these MDC leaders are!

Thanks to MDC A’s naivety, Zanu PF is going ahead with its plans to blatantly rig the 2023 elections, confident the opposition will participate and thus give the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy.

“Chiefs in Zimbabwe have recently allegedly been trained as Zanu PF commissars at the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology to mobilise votes for the ruling party ahead of the 2023 elections, it has emerged,” reported Bulawayo 24 in one article.

So Zanu PF is going full steam ahead with one of the party’s flagship vote rigging plans – making sure rural areas remain Zanu PF stronghold where the rural voters have been reduced by these partisan Chiefs, other traditional leaders and Zanu PF operatives into medieval serfs beholden to the overbearing Landlords.

The rural voters have only once, in March 2008, dared to vote for the opposition. They were promptly punished in June 2008 run-off when Zanu PF launch a military the Operation “Mavhotera papi!” (Whom did you vote for!) The wanton violence that followed was one of the worst election violence the nation has ever seen, and Zanu PF operatives have threatened the violence will return if the people dared to reject Zanu PF ever again.

“Mwonzora’s party was on Friday given $59 940 000 by the government while Zanu-PF got a whopping $140 million, igniting fresh debate about the MDC-T and MDC Alliance battle over the control of funds meant for parties with a sizeable representation in Parliament,” reported Bulawayo 24 in the next article.

The $60m above is MDC -T’s share of the annual Political Party Finance Act pay out; part and parcel of the Zanu PF bribe to entice the opposition to participate in the elections regardless how flawed and illegal the process gets. Mwonzora and his lot will certainly participate in the 2023 elections, the payment has whetted their appetited and are hungry for more. Chamisa and his lot are licking their dry lips with envy and will be desperate to win back some of the bait on offer.

It is the rock-solid guarantee that the opposition will participate in the elections no matter how flawed and illegal the process got that gives Zanu PF the confidence to ignore calls to implement reforms and blatantly rig the elections.

“Events in Zambia have taught Army they are employed by the people and not Zanu PF!” I cannot make up my mind whether MDC leaders are really that corrupt, incompetent and naïve or they are just conning the ignorant and desperate povo into believing this nonsense so they can get their reward from Zanu PF for getting the people to participate in the flawed elections and give Zanu PF legitimacy.

By A Correspondent- The National Social Security Authority (NSSA) has closed accounts for widows and widowers, in a move the organisation says is meant to weed out ghost pensioners.

The move has however triggered an outcry as it affected genuine beneficiaries who say they could not register on time due to travel restrictions in the prevailing coronavirus environment.

In an interview with NewsDay on Sunday, Masvingo Pensioners Forum co-ordinator Charles Gonzi described the move as inconsiderate.

He said:

NSSA closed accounts for those with deceased husbands and wives who could not register on time.

We were told we needed to bring our children regardless of where we are coming from. In this COVID-19 pandemic, movement is very difficult. How are people supposed to travel in this environment?.

Gonzi said NSSA should have reached out to pensioners first before making the move. He added:

How are we supposed to register, they did not consider the inconveniences of travelling at such a time. NSSA should do outreach programmes so that everyone registers.

They just closed the accounts and said none will get money.

Contacted, NSSA deputy director of marketing Tendai Mutseyekwa said they carried out an outreach programme to register pensioners.

Said Mutseyekwa:

We carried a programme between April and June. The life certificate renewal exercise was published everywhere, including on radios. We set up offices everywhere in the country and we reached pensioners everywhere in the country.

The need to renew these certificates is to close ghost beneficiaries. We are trying to protect NSSA funds and the pensioners as well.

Mutseyekwa said they need proof in order for them to renew those certificates.

Pensioners in the country have been living like destitutes due to unsustainable payouts amid the economic crisis.

Angry Ex Torches Family Home

By A Correspondent- A Mwenezi family in Mukweva village under Chief Negari lost all its belongings to fire after an enraged South African based man allegedly torched their houses over failure to reconcile with his former wife who is a relative to that family.

The suspected arsonist, Edmore Chidhava is alleged to have followed his estranged wife of eight years who ran away from South Africa to seek refuge at her Uncle Katini Dhaimani’s place in Mwenezi on August 2, 2021.

Mukweva village head Elton Chauke confirmed the development saying the incident has left nine family members homeless because of the arson though they did not identify the assailant.

“The tragic incident occurred on Monday August 2 around midnight. The family lost several valuables. Katini Dhaimani’s main house, kitchen and cattle pen were set on fire by an unknown assailant but on that same day there was a misunderstanding between Dhaimani and his niece’s husband who had come to reconcile with his wife,” said Chauke.

A source close to the matter allege that Chidhava went to Dhaimani’s house to reconcile with his wife Enia Dhaimani.

“Chidhava came from South Africa and pretended to seek reconciliation with his wife Enia. The uncle could not give in to Chidhava’s demands for reconciliation as he advised him to go and come back with his family members, while the ‘in-laws’ made their own consultations as a family before deciding on the matter.

“He went away but is suspected to have come back later at night with about four litres of petrol which he used to raze down the houses and the cattle pen,” said the source.

Dhaimaini said Chidhava visited him on Saturday and left on Monday morning after threatening him.

“He came during the weekend and told me that he wanted to reconcile with my niece Enia who was his wife of eight years. I advised him to bring his relatives after which he left on Monday morning after threatening me with unspecified action. On that same day at midnight we woke up to fire gutting our houses down,” Dhaimani said.

The matter was reported to Neshuro Sub Office police station who attended the scene a day later.

It is said the two had been facing marital problems for quite some time, which resulted in the wife leaving him some weeks ago to seek refuge at her uncle’s place.

Dhaimani is appealing for well-wishers to assist him with food, money, blankets, clothes, kitchen utensils and other essential goods.

MDC Alliance Scoff At Douglas Mwonzora’s Name Grab

By A Correspondent- The MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa has lambasted the Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC-T for claiming its name.

Last week Mwonzora said he held a meeting with the MDC Alliance principals which his party dubbed the MDC Alliance Leadership Forum.

However, Welshman Ncube and Tendai Biti who were the major principals when the alliance was signed were not part of the meeting held at Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House.

MDC Alliance deputy spokesperson Felix Magalela Sibanda told a local publication that they are not bothered by Mwonzora’s purported meeting with MDC Alliance principals, describing him as a ZANU PF puppet and opportunist.

Sibanda said:

No one should be bothered by this known puppet and opportunist, Douglas Mwonzora. He is adhering to his mandate by ZANU PF to cause more harm to the people’s agenda by some progressive political parties, like the genuine MDCA headed by Adv Chamisa.

ZANU PF is panicking about the fresh momentum by Adv Chamisa and MDC A to change the status quo.

Mwonzora is digging graves in his stupid mind and belief that the dead have magic wounds to oil his defunct MDC T at all costs.

He said as a people’s party, the MDC-A is focused on improving all Zimbabweans economically without discrimination.

Added Sibanda:

Our main objective is to let people enjoy their constitutional and human rights and be able to elect their own government in 2023, not otherwise.

Mathematically 1 000000 x 0 = 0 ( zero). Therefore, those flight by night political parties are inconsequential to our mandate.

Mliswa Tears Into Failing Zanu Pf

By A Correspondent- Norton’s Member of Parliament Temba Mliswa (independent) says successive Zanu PF governments have dismally failed to look after war veterans since 1980.

In a statement on his Twitter page, Mliswa said it was despicable how a government run by war veterans fail to look after its own.

This comes after nine war veterans were arrested when they allegedly demonstrated at Finance minister Mthuli Ncube’s office, demanding better pensions.

Mliswa also took aim at the fawning culture in Zimbabwe politics

“Critiquing policies should not be generally redacted and framed as personal attacks,” Mliswa said.

“Now, if a leader was surrounded by people whose expertise is all about gossip it is a problem. They can only give what they have and are. The result is that this will be seen in the actions and policies.”

Mliswa said the government had focused on pleasing white farmers by compensating them while its own people were suffering.

Zambia’s New President Sacks Army, Air Force, Police Chefs

By A Correspondent- Zambia’s newly-elected president Hakainde Hichilema has sacked Commanders of the Zambia Army, Air Force, National Service, and Inspector General of Police and appointed new Service Chiefs in their place.

Rights groups accused Hichilema’s predecessor Edgar Lungu of leading a “brutal crackdown” on dissent, with police violence claiming at least five lives since he was officially elected in 2016.

In a Sunday night announcement from his residency in new Kasama, Hichilema thanked those that served and called on Zambian citizens to respect them as they have served the country with diligence and urged that they be not demonised.

President Hichilema appointed Zambia Army Deputy Commander Dennis Alibuzwi as Army Commander and consequently promoted him to the rank of Lieutenant General with immediate effect.

Lieutenant General Alibuzwi replaces Lieutenant General William Sikazwe who served as Zambia Army Commander for two years and eight months since his appointment in 2018.

Hichilema recalled Brigadier General Geoffrey Zyeele and appointed him as the new Deputy Army Commander and Chief of Staff, and consequently elevated him to the rank of Major General.

At the Zambia Air Force (ZAF), Hichilema retired Air Commander, Lieutenant General David Muma and replaced him with Brigadier General Collins Barry, who he subsequently promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-General.

Further, Brigadier General Oscar Nyoni has been appointed as ZAF Deputy Commander and has been promoted to the rank of Major General.

President Hichilema also made changes at the Zambia National Service (ZNS) by relieving ZNS Commandant Lieutenant General Nathan Mulenga of his duties and replacing him with Brigadier General Patrick Solochi, who has since been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-General.

Lieutenant General Patrick Solochi will be deputised by now Major General Reuben Mwewa who was before this appointment and subsequent promotion, at the rank of Brigadier General.

Meanwhile, the President recalled and appointed Remmy Kajoba as new Inspector General of Police, replacing Kakoma Kanganja.

Hichilema appointed Milner Muyambango to the position of Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of operations and also appointed Doris Chibombe as Deputy Inspector General in charge of administration.-LusakaTimes

Woman Steals US$3 000 Using Forged Receipt

A Bulawayo woman has appeared in court for allegedly defrauding a man of over US$3 000 after forging a receipt that she presented claiming she had paid for a business stand for him in Esigodini.

Sithandazile Ncube (40) of Cowdray Park suburb appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Steven Ndlovu facing charges of fraud and forgery. Ncube pleaded not guilty to the charges and was remanded in custody to September 9.

The court heard that Ncube approached Mr Even Chinzombe of Thorngrove suburb in October last year at Renkini and informed him that there was a business stand which was on sale in Esigodini and Chinzombe said he was interested in buying it.

She told him that the stand was being sold for US$6 000.In June this year, Chinzombe paid her part of the money, US$3 060 for the alleged stand.

Ncube allegedly forged a receipt purporting that she had paid money to Umzingwane Rural District Council for the stand.

Representing the State, Mr Mandla Ndlovu said Ncube allegedly forged a receipt and used it to defraud Mr Chinzombe of his money.

“On a date not known by the prosecutor but in the month of October last year at Renkini Bus Terminus, Ncube allegedly forged a receipt and purported it to be acquired from Umzingwane Rural District with the intention of defrauding Mr Chinzombe, realising that there was a risk or possibility of defrauding him,’’ he said.

“In June this year, Ncube made a misrepresentation by producing a forged receipt to convince Mr Chinzombe that she had paid US$3 060 to Umzingwane Rural District Council towards Mr Chinzombe’s business stand intending to deceive him realising that there is a risk or possibility of deceiving him and intending to cause him to act upon the misrepresentation to his prejudice”.

Mr Chinzombe went with the receipt to Umzingwane RDC offices and noticed that the receipt he was given by Ncube was a forged one and she had not paid any money towards the stand.

He reported the matter to the police leading to Ncube’s arrest. The US$3 060 he gave Ncube was not recovered.- Chronicle

Mwonzora In Another Chamisa Coup

By A Correspondent- Daglous Mwonzora of the MDC-T is planning to recall more than five members of parliament from the Nelson Chamisa’s MDC Alliance.

Mwonzora is targeting Chamisa’s Matabeleland North lieutenants.

Morgen Dube, the party’s Matabeleland North provincial chairman, recently wrote to the MDC-T top leadership that included Mwonzora demanding the recalls saying they were “no longer serving the party interests.”

It has emerged that Hwange Central legislator Daniel Molekele is one of the officials targeted for recall.

“We kindly request the recall of a member of the Upper House of Assembly, House of Assembly member, provincial council members, and local government members as listed below,” he said.

The said members are no longer serving the party interests but have shown allegiance to the MDC Alliance.

Provincial council members who are set to be recalled include Caroline Ndlovu, George Siachuma, Sharon Ndlovu and Chiratidzo Mdimba.

Councillors targeted for recalls include Steve Chisvosve, Salome Chirwa, Teresa Mtara, Tendai Sibanda, Bakani Kwidini, and Edmore Zhou from Hwange West and Central constituencies.

Dube said the provincial executive had tried to persuade the officials to join Mwonzora’s camp to no avail as the mentioned individuals continued to contribute and attend MDC Alliance meetings.
Molokele said he “does not care at all” adding that he was “more than ready to be recalled. I remain 100 per cent behind Advocate Nelson Chamisa.”
Posts of recalled legislators and councillors are likely to remain vacant as by-elections were suspended indefinitely over the prevalence of the coronavirus pandemic.

So Called New Dispensation…Prices Continue To Skyrocket

Prices Continue To Skyrocket

Hichilema Fires Lungu Aligned Millitary Junta

Zambia’s newly-elected President Hakainde Hichilema has fired that country’s top military bosses and appointed new ones.

HH did this on Sunday after his promises to end the previous regime’s heavy-handedness.

In a televised address to the nation, Hichilema on Sunday announced the appointment of new army and airforce chiefs, as well as a new head of the southern African country’s defence wing.

During his inauguration speech on Tuesday, he promised to crack down on political “thuggery” and repression, reassuring independent media they would no longer face tear gas or shutdowns.

Zimbabwe is a disputed State.”

No Transformation Without Reforms- Biti

Take Action Against Ministers Absconding Parliament

By A Correspondent- President of the Senate, Mabel Chinomona has asked President Emmerson Mnangagwa to take action against ministers who have been absconding Parliament.

On Thursday, during the question and answer session, Chinomona tasked the leader of the Senate, Monica Mutsvangwa, who is the Information minister, to notify Mnangagwa that some ministers were increasingly failing to attend parliamentary sessions without providing any reasons.

Ministers are constitutionally required to field questions from senators every Thursday afternoon, but the majority of them never attend the sessions when legislators have to ask questions on key policy issues.

Last Thursday, there were only four ministers and two deputy ministers in attendance, leaving senators with no one to respond to their questions.

Senator Morgen Komichi (MDC-T) said it had become routine that the ministers would snub the Parliament business every week, hence there was need for authorities to bring the negative habit to an end.

He named Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga and the Health minister, whom he said was heading a key ministry, but was not in attendance, hence it was important to ensure that if he was engaged with other businesses, his deputy John Mangwiro always attended to respond to some issues in his ministry.

“My question is very simple, Madam President. Every Thursday, we raise our complaint over the attendance of ministers, that they are not taking this business seriously,” Komichi said.

“They are not taking it as one of the duties that they should discharge to the people of Zimbabwe. On Tuesday, there was a Cabinet meeting, do we get such excuses? I think the answer is a very simple, no, because they plan that they will all attend and they are 90% present. All these ministers have their own deputies, but there are a few deputy ministers here. Does it mean that on Thursday, when we have such an important occasion in the country, all the ministers will be busy?”

Chinomona said she concurred with Komichi that ministers were taking Cabinet business more seriously than they did the Senate.

“If I may support what Hon. Senator Komichi said, it is not only the Cabinet, but the National Assembly, ministers make sure they do attend,” Chinomona said.

“That one I have noticed. Also, it is no use to have someone send an apology every Thursday yet he has never attended the Senate. If I may ask the honourable minister and leader of the House, would you please make sure that the President knows about this and he gives us an answer? We send you because you represent us in Cabinet.”

Teachers Warn Of Increased School Dropouts

By A Correspondent- Teachers unions have warned of unprecedented school dropouts as parents struggle to raise school fees following a government-imposed 33% hike for the extended term.

Schools reopen today for examination classes, but parents have accused the government of ambushing them as they were given only four days to raise fees and related costs for the new term.

Permanent secretary in the Primary and Secondary Education ministry Tumisang Thabela said government had approved schools fees increases on a pro rata basis, which translates to a 33% hike, since the term was 80 days long, unlike the usual 60 days of an ordinary term.

In the circular, Thabela said examination classes would attend schools everyday while the rest of the learners will be alternating to allow adherence to COVID-19 protocols.

Teacher representatives, however, notified government that it was unlikely their members would attend lessons today as they were incapacitated.

They urged government to utilise part of the funds received by the government from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) under the Special Drawing Rights to revamp the education sector.

According to the new calendar announced by government, non-examination classes will reopen on September 6, 2021 and schools will close on December 17, 2021 for all learners.

Amalgamated Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (Artuz) mobilised teachers and parents to stage a demonstration today, saying they were all not prepared for the reopening.

“We conducted a snap survey among parents in Zimbabwe’s 72 education districts and the result showed that the parents were not ready for schools to reopen because they can’t afford the fees being charged,” Artuz president Orbet Masaraure said.

“There are various outstanding issues, hence reopening of schools will be a flop. Both teachers and parents are incapacitated. The COVID-19 lockdowns wiped away citizens’ savings and teachers have not been spared. The date of the reopening of schools was announced at a time teachers had already used up their meagre earnings. By the way, teachers don’t last for a day with their salaries. Teachers have a significant number of children in school and they can’t afford to pay for their fees, let alone travel to their work places.”

Zimbabwe National Teachers Union chief executive Manuel Nyawo said government’s policy guidelines on reopening schools were vague and likely to cause confusion.

Nyawo wrote a letter to Thabela, dated August 27, 2021, demanding that government revise the guidelines and address concerns raised by teachers on salaries and working conditions to ensure smooth reopening of schools.

“We would be happy madam if you will give clarity on more serious concerns regarding the reopening of schools,” Nyawo said.

“Our members, including those from sister unions, are disgruntled. It should not surprise you if you get the usual bad news that there is no effective teaching and learning in schools as teachers are generally disgruntled over salaries. You allowed schools to technically increase fees under a naive argument that is devoid of logic, but you could not demand that teachers should be paid reasonably in order to motivate them as they go back to work.”

Zimbabwe Teachers Association secretary-general Goodwill Taderera bemoaned lack of COVID-19 statistics to inform stakeholders about the preparedness of schools for reopening.

“We believe that more consultations could have been done in order to ensure that stakeholders such as staff associations, parents, donors and communities are involved in mobilising resources, to ensure that schools run smoothly amid the COVID-19 pandemic,”Taderera said.

Education Coalition of Zimbabwe acting national co-ordinator Clemence Nhliziyo told NewsDay that there was need to invest in the education sector using part of the IMF grant in procuring personal protective equipment (PPEs) and making sure that schools were safe.

Some parents were sceptical that the schools would reopen because as the impasse between teachers and government over salaries was unresolved. Some said they had failed to raise fees for their children as there had been limited industrial activity during the
COVID-19 lockdown.

Others raised concern over the safety of their children as they were financially incapable of providing enough PPE as required by government.

Addressing a post-Cabinet media briefing recently, Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa said when schools opened, parents would be asked to help government by providing PPE.

Government has also imposed mandatory vaccination by barring its uninoculated workers from workplaces but has remained mum on unvaccinated teachers, amid reports that majority of them had not yet received their jabs.

Contacted for comment Thabela said she was not aware of the government position on unvaccinated teachers. She said she had been out of office and referred questions to ministry spokesperson Taungana Ndoro.

“I am travelling and I have been out of the office,”Thabela said.

“The spokesperson might know whether there is any communication from the relevant ministries on that issue.”

Ndoro’s number was not reachable.-

“Do Not Send Pupils Home”: Govt

By A Correspondent- The government has implored schools not to send pupils home for failure to pay the full amount of fees on time but to make payment plans with parents and guardians.

Speaking to State media on Sunday, Primary and Secondary Education Ministry spokesperson Taungana Ndoro said they want all pupils to be allowed to attend classes while parents engage schools authorities on payment plans. Said Ndoro:

All things go ahead as both learners and teachers are ready for the resumption of examination classes.

In terms of school fees, schools are allowed to do payment plans with parents.

We want learners to go back to school first, parents should just engage authorities with their payment plans, but no one should be sent home.

The three examination classes, that is Grade Seven, Form Four and Upper Six resume in-person learning this Monday.

They have 80 lesson days in the 16 weeks, with no exeat weekends and no public holidays.

Other classes, which start next Monday, have 75 school days in a 15-week term.

Meanwhile, parents have bemoaned the rise in the prices of food and uniforms and a rise in schools fees.

They also said it was hard to prepare for their children given the short notice.

Zanu Pf Unfazed By Chamisa Snub Of POLAD

By A Correspondent- ZANU PF is not worried by main opposition MDC Alliance’s refusal to join the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) platform, a ruling party official has said.

Tafadzwa Mugwadi, who is ZANU PF director for information and publicity, said his party “does not lose sleep” over the Nelson Chamisa-led political outfit’s refusal to join POLAD.

He was speaking during a virtual meeting convened by the Heal Zimbabwe Trust (HZT) in partnership with the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC).

The meeting was held under the theme: Political Polarisation: Has Zimbabwe Found the Remedy? ]

Said Mugwadi:

Polarisation is a choice and ZANU PF does not lose sleep over the refusal of the opposition to come to the table and join the brotherhood.

We acknowledge their right not to join. With Polad, Zimbabwe is beginning to come together and speaking with the same voice and conviction on issues to do with national interests.

All political parties are on board and only one opposition party has decided not to join. Please enjoy outside. Of course, we know very well it is cold outside.

However, MDC Alliance representative, Harare mayor Jacob Mafume said there was a need for an enabling environment to allow independent institutions to thrive.

He said:POLAD is unable to deal with and address pertinent issues and past hurts, but as the opposition through the able leadership of our president, Chamisa has put together a platform for dialogue that seeks to address issues of human rights justice and issues of impunity.
