MDC Alliance Calls Ziyambi To Order

Tinashe Sambiri|The MDC Alliance has challenged under pressure Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi to apologize for disrespecting the court of law.

Incensed by the High Court reversal of Luke Malaba’s reappointment, Ziyambi accused the presiding Judges of “working with the opposition to bring down the new dispensation.”

The MDC Alliance has described the harassment of Judges by the Zanu PF regime as unfortunate and disturbing:

The MDC Alliance welcomes the recent ruling by a panel of three Judges of the High Court on the unlawfulness of the purported extension of former Chief Justice Malaba’s tenure as Head of the Judiciary.

We believe in the ideals of constitutionalism, the rule of law, separation of powers, judicial independence and good governance.

These values are not negotiable as they serve to deepen our democracy. It was important for the High Court to uphold them.

However, we are extremely concerned that the Executive in general and the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs in particular, saw it fit to issue an intemperate and contemptuous statement against the judges who presided over this important matter, civic society and the MDC Alliance.

We call upon the Minister to retract and apologize for his unfounded allegations and for scandalizing the court.

We further demand that he be held to account for his unethical and dangerous remarks that threaten the independence of the judiciary and the constitutional right to protection of the law.

We believe that the undue haste with which the Constitutional Amendment Bills were handled is an indication that they were intended to achieve a sinister objective that does not enhance our democracy.

Rather, the amendments undo the will of the people as expressed in a nationwide referendum and the painstaking work that led to the crafting of our Constitution.

Respect for the will of the people demands that any process of amendment must be consultative and inclusive as opposed to the unilateralism that has been exhibited by the Minister of Justice and the Executive.

It is our respectful view that the Constitutional Amendments are fraught with illegalities, which illegalities were pointed out by our MPs in Parliament and by a number of citizens during the public hearing process. The people’s right to be heard must be respected.

We reiterate that it is imperative for laws to be aligned to the Constitution as opposed to the unlawful attempts to change the supreme law, notwithstanding the overwhelming opposition to this process.

The Constitution is the Supreme Law of the land that binds everyone and in line with our People’s Agenda, we re-affirm the citizens’ collective obligation to defend it.

Greatman Composes Song For Baby Boy

Sungura/ afro fusion musician Greatman Tongai Gwaze says the birth of his son, Karran has given him a new approach to life and he will this week release a new song dedicated to him.

Greatman, who is married to Silibaziso Masara, welcomed their first child on Tuesday at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital, where he immediately named him Karran.

According to Seven Reflections, the name Karran means extremes in fortune, health and spirituality.

Greatman, who was accompanied by his family and friends were they were picking up Silibaziso and newly baby, was excited as he revealed in an interview that all his work as a musician would now be dedicated to his son.

“I now have someone to whom I will pass the baton, someone who will make me a better person. All the music that I will do will be for him now. I will release a single any day this week and it is titled “Padzinogumira”. This song, which I worked on with Dorcas Moyo, speaks of how God begins to work in our lives when we reach our limits as humans,” he said.

He said the name Karran was a unique Indian name that he had picked from some of his favourite Bollywood movies.

“It is a unique name for a special boy’”

Greatman said the birth of his son was proof that people living with disabilities can live their lives just as much as everyone else.

“A lot of people might not understand it —but this is a sign that I can do everything that an able bodied person can do. I used to doubt that I will ever have my own child but this has proven that God really can do what we cannot do. I want to encourage people with disability to believe that anything is possible. Just because God gave you disability doesn’t mean he will not bless you with positive gifts,” he said.

He said he hoped that one day he would work with his son to produce great music and leave a legacy.

Greatman also heaped praises on his wife.

“To my wife, I want to say you are a very strong woman, and you are one in a million. That is why the world didn’t understand it because you are unique,” he added.- The Herald

S*x Workers Are Holier Than Zimbabwean Prophets, Masvingo Cleric “Confesses”

Own Correspondent|
According to African tradition it’s an abomination for a woman to sell her body…

However, controversial Masvingo preacher and slayqueens godfather, Isaac Makomichi has shocked the world after claiming that God loves prostitutes.

Makomichi has also claimed that some sex workers are even closer to God than Zimbabwean pastors.

Makomichi said people should not judge s*x workers because they are struggling to take care of their families.

Below is Makomichi’s statement:

“As Christians we must respect s*x workers. God loves them and He wants them to seek the Kingdom of Heaven.

Those people they are humble, even if you are ugly or dirty they will still give you their services wholeheartedly, I salute them.

They are holier than us…

Some prophets pray and visit vapfumi chete but s*x workers visit even the poor, God hates pride.

Vakadzi vakaroorwa vanotohra asi ma sx workers havana varume uye vanozviitira kuriritira mhuri dzavo.”

Reports says Makomichi is the one who helps single ladies to snatch married men

However a church elder had this to say about Makomichi:

“Makomichi is evil, he talks nonsense and he is the one who gives love charms to slayqueens, that’s why he supports s*x workers.”

Malawi Burns 20k Of Expired AstraZeneca Vaccines

By A Correspondent- Malawi has burned nearly 20,000 doses of expired AstraZeneca vaccines, defying calls not to do so from the World Health Organization and the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Malawi’s Health Minister Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda presided over the incineration Wednesday at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe, the capital.

Malawi becomes the first country in the world to publicly destroy expired Covid-19 vaccines.

“We are destroying (these vaccines) because as government policy no expired health commodities are to be used,” she said. “Historically under the expanded immunisation program of Malawi no expired vaccine has ever been used.”

She said the burning of the vaccines will prevent those with a negative perception of inoculations from using the excuse of expired vaccines from getting the shots.

“We are destroying publicly in order to stay accountable to Malawians. The vaccines that expired are not being used during the vaccination campaign,” she said. “On behalf of the government, I assure all Malawians that no one will be given an expired Covid vaccine.”

The burned vaccines were the remainder of 102,000 doses that arrived in Malawi on March 26 with just 18 days until they expired on April 13. All other doses of the shipment, donated by the African Union, were successfully administered, she said.

The health minister thanked WHO, the African Union and India for donating the vaccines.

“This has made it possible for Malawi to embark on the Covid vaccination campaign currently underway,” she said, without mentioning the WHO’s pleas not to burn the vaccines.

The calls not to destroy the vaccines came too late for Malawi, a small southern African country of about 20 million people, ministry of health spokesman Joshua Malango told The Associated Press.

“We had stopped observation of proper storage mechanisms and the vaccines would have still been damaged in one way or the other,” he said.

The destruction of the vaccines was witnessed by several top officials “in order to enhance transparency,” health secretary Charles Mwansambo said.

Malawi will still have adequate stocks of Covid-19 vaccines in both public and private health facilities, he said. The government has not said where it will get more vaccines.

Malawi’s got its first consignment of 360,000 AstraZeneca doses in early March from the U.N.-backed COVAX initiative which is providing vaccines to low- and middle-income countries.

The country received another batch of 50,000 AstraZeneca doses from the Indian government. With the AU donation, Malawi had a total of 512,000 AstraZeneca doses.

So far 212,615 doses have been given in Malawi. The country has 34,216 confirmed cases, including 1,153 deaths, according to the Africa CDC.

Currently, the country is seeing a decrease in infections, with the seven-day rolling average of daily new cases in Malawi dropping from 0.07 new cases per 100,000 people on May 4 to 0.04 new cases per 100,000 people on May 18. Official deaths from Covid-19 are also declining, according to statistics from Johns Hopkins University.

Malawi, like many other African countries, has relied on the AstraZeneca vaccine that has been distributed by COVAX and the African Union. But now supplies of the vaccine have become more scarce because India, the main supplier of vaccines to COVAX, has stopped exports until it has adequately vaccinated large numbers of its population of 1.4 billion people.

The Serum Institute of India says it hopes to start delivering coronavirus vaccines to COVAX and to other countries by the end of the year. The delay will significantly set back global efforts to immunise people against Covid-19.

India’s Serum Institute is the world’s biggest vaccine-maker. The company said in March that it was postponing all exports of coronavirus vaccines to deal with the explosive surge of cases on the subcontinent. At the time, the World Health Organisation said it expected Covid-19 vaccine deliveries from India to resume by June and the interruption would affect about 90 million doses.

Govt’s Command Approach Blasted

By A Correspondent- Teachers unions have accused the Primary and Secondary Education ministry of employing a “command” and “haphazard” approach in implementing the new examination model, starting with the ongoing workshops for educators across the country without providing for their food and transport needs.

Government in March announced plans to introduce a new examination model which includes continuous assessment and examination marks for the final 2021 Grade 7, Form 4 and Upper Sixth learners.

Under the model, final year students will be assessed on different aptitudes such as knowledge, skills, abilities, values and trends to ascertain the achievement of desired learner exit profiles.

However, it is not clear how marks will be allocated under the Continuous Assessment Framework (CAF), which was announced after the release of poor 2020 Grade 7 results.

As part of the implementation of the CAF model, the ministry early this week began rolling out workshops across the country, but without any budgetary support to cater for meals and travelling allowances for attendees.

“They were not promised, but administratively, they have a right to expect (allowances) as that is government’s standard practice. The Public Service Act sets out these legitimate expectations,” Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Obert Masaraure said.

Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Takavafira Zhou added that CAF was a recipe for failure as teachers were already too poor to be burdened with extra expenses.

“The truth that must be said to level-headed Zimbabweans is that, in spite of the fact that CAF is a brilliant programme, it cannot be implemented by incapacitated teachers, without a budgetary allocation, without adequate pilot projects and broad engagement with teachers, and in a command, haphazard, muddling and meddling through,” argued Zhou.

The ministry has reportedly called for total compliance with CAF for every learner before schools close on June 4. Teachers have, however, pleaded incapacitation and are reporting for work twice or thrice per week.

“The earlier we abandon the attempt and concentrate on capacitation of teachers, syllabus coverage under previous conditions, preparation for CAF proper implementation in three years’ time and resource mobilisation for its successful implementation would be best for the country,” Zhou added.

He argued that education was not a terrain for weird experimentation.

Primary and Secondary Education spokesperson Taungana Ndoro yesterday defended the “unplanned” training workshops as necessary to enable teachers to understand CAF.

“We are holding workshops to bring them up to speed with the framework,” Ndoro said without responding to allegations that CAF workshops were rushed, unplanned and burdensome.

A ministry document on the new education strategy argues that CAF will accord teachers and facilitators the opportunity to participate fully in the assessment of their learners to prepare them for different roles in society and the real world of work.

Man Stabbed Over Opened Grave

By A Correspondent- A man who lost his daughter who stayed in South Africa suffered double tragedy after he got stabbed by his younger brother after a misunderstanding over a hole which was found on the late daughter’s grave.

Anthony Chengetanai of Rudhanda village under Chief Bota area woke up one morning to find a deep hole on the grave of his daughter who had been buried for almost one week.

As the family tried to come to terms with the incident, Chengetanai and other family members disagreed on the next step resulting in him being stabbed by his younger brother.

Masvingo Provincial Police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said they had not received any report of both the assault and the grave incident.

“We have not received any report of both incidents, we however urge members of the public to report cases of similar nature to the police,” said Dhewa.

Chengetanai’s daughter, Evidence died on March 05, 2021, after a short illness in South Africa where she was working and was repatriated back to Zimbabwe where she was buried in Zaka on March 13.

Chengetanai told TellZim News that the mystery surrounding the gaping hole on his daughter’s grave led to friction among family members as people suspected each other of performing dark rituals on the grave.

“My child died in South Africa after short illness. We buried her at our family grave site and as per custom, we went there the following day and all was well.

“After a week we visited the grave site with the intention of putting up material for the unveiling of the tombstone. We were shocked to find a deep hole close to the headstone but there was no footprints,” said Chengetanai.

Chengetanai said that they consulted some prophets who told them that there were some people who had tempered around with the deceased.

“We went to consult some prophets who told us that there are some family members who tempered with my daughter’s spirit and could be using it to do something bad,” said Chengetanai.

He went on to claim that other family members were against the idea of backfilling the hole, a disagreement which got him stabbed with a knife.

Chengetanai said he suspected the sibling who stabbed him had something to do with what happened at the grave as he was opposed to the hole getting plugged.

“I was stabbed by Lovemore who seemed to know something about what is happening and is trying to silence me before I expose those involved. I was rushed to Musiso Hospital where I was stitched on the wound and was discharged.

“We need help because we now hear some strange noises at home during the night; mysterious footsteps of people running and mysterious voices,” said Chengetanai.

MPs Corner Ziyambi Ziyambi Over Attack On High Court Judges

Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi was tongue lashed in Parliament yesterday after he refused to respond to questions regarding his attack on judges of the High Court who he accused of being captured by foreign governments.

Ziyambi at the weekend threatened judges for ruling against the extension of former Chief Justice Luke Malaba’s term by five years.

Temba Mliswa (Independent) said Ziyambi should resign because he was irresponsible, and demanded that the minister explains to the House why he chose to go against the principle of separation of powers.

“My understanding is that in the doctrine of separation of powers which we must all understand, the Judiciary is independent, so is the Executive and Parliament,” Mliswa said.

“Now that the matter has been appealed already, the judges that are handling this matter are already compromised. They are under threat. It has never happened where a Minister of Justice, who is the father of justice, issues a statement like that and goes political in saying that some judges belong to the opposition.

“We never knew anything (about) that any judge belongs to the opposition as much as we believe that his discharge of duty as a minister is for the interest of the people of Zimbabwe. There is now a constitutional crisis.”

Mliswa added: “Other than that, he must resign but he must be given a chance because his credibility and that of the justice delivery system of Zimbabwe which must exercise judicial prudence has been failed by one person.”

But Ziyambi refused to be drawn into discussing the issue saying: “There are those that wrote a letter indicating that they want that application to be subjected to the High Court, and so it is sub judice.”

Mliswa refused to accept Ziyambi’s response adding: “When I say I want to hit you, I do not mean I will hit you, and so the matter is not before the courts. I do not have to teach you law as I am not a lawyer…. and this time I hope he will not comment on High Court rulings.”

Ziyambi responded: “I respect my brother Temba Mliswa, but I did not come to Parliament to say something that is false. I have papers that were sent to the High Court with the same complaint and it is still something that is totally wrong to comment about it. I will await the direction of the courts.”

Mliswa retorted: “If indeed the matter is before the courts, we should allow due process, and maybe I should be the Minister of Justice next time.”

Fears Of STI Outbreak As Hurungwe Runs Out Of Condoms

By A Correspondent- Hurungwe district ran out of condoms in the first quarter of this year, a district Aids action committee stakeholders meeting heard yesterday.

Stakeholders raised fears of outbreaks of sexually transmitted infections during the ongoing tobacco selling season as there are at least 14 tobacco merchants in Karoi with commercial sex workers coming from Harare, Chegutu and Chinhoyi to ply their trade.

Hurungwe district Aids co-ordinator Rumbidzai Manatsa said the condoms that were being given for free at health facilities were being sold at some places.

“We are worried that at one point we ran out of condoms during the first three months of the year under review. We look forward to seeing the distribution of condoms improving for our clients in the farming and mining areas,” she said.

Zimbabwe People Living with HIV and Aids Positively (ZNNP+) provincial coordinator Tawanda Kamidza called for “robust tracing” so that condoms were made available.

Public Service Commission (PSC) district officer Charles Bandera called for continued HIV and Aids awareness campaigns at all public offices.

The complainant was offered a place to sleep in the same room with the couple.

During the night Nyarira jumped on top of the complainant and raped her.

His wife heard some noise and ordered the complainant to go back to her home.

Man In Soup For Bedding Girlfriend Before Paying Lobola

By A Correspondent- A man from Monyoroka village, Triangle landed himself in trouble with the law after he bedded his girlfriend for two weeks before paying lobola/roora.

Bismack Zhou (25) appeared before Chiredzi Regional Magistrate Judith Zuyu facing rape allegations after his girlfriend reported him for having sexual intercourse with her before paying lobola to her parents.

It is in the State’s case that on September 11, 2020, the accused invited the complainant to his house for formal introductions to his siblings.

After dinner, the accused locked the complainant in his room and declared that they had been officially married as husband and wife without the accused’s consent.

The court heard that the accused went on to have sexual intercourse with the complainant without her consent while his brothers were on guard.

The accused’s sister would accompany the complainant to the toilet whenever she felt like relieving herself so as to prevent her from escaping.

They stayed together having sexual intercourse several times from September 11 until the accused managed to run away on September 26, 2020.

In his defense, the accused said on September 05, 2020, he went to his girlfriend’s place (complainant) and told her that he wanted to marry her and she agreed. He said they proceeded to his homestead and stayed together until September 26, 2020, when she ran away from his house.

When the accused phoned the complainant asking about her whereabouts, she told the accused that he must pay lobola first to her parents so that they could stay together formally.

The accused said he had no money during that time and that is why the complainant made a police report and filed a rape case.

It is reported that Zhou later went to the complainant’s parents to discuss compensation and he produced only an identity card saying he had no money.

According to TellZim, the case was moved to a later date for trial continuation.

Govt Blames Car Sales For Prostitution And Drug Peddling

Government is planning to launch a blitz on car sales in Harare and Chitungwiza, accusing them of turning the urban areas into havens of drug peddling and prostitution.

The move will likely spell doom for the flourishing business which has taken advantage of the huge appetite for used cars by Zimbabwean mainly imports from Japan.

Car dealers have also been under siege from the tax collector, the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority, which has been pursuing cars whose customs duty was undervalued.

Harare Metropolitan Affairs minister Oliver Chidawu announced on Tuesday that government was concerned over the mushrooming of car sales in the capital which he accused of causing environmental degradation and illegally occupying council and State land.

“We have this city being turned, in fact, all roads are being turned into car sales. We have noticed in some areas like Lomagundi Road where there are a lot of car sales. We don’t know the process that has been followed. We are now emphasising that we want orderliness,” Chidawu said.

“We want to ensure that we follow planning. We have realised some of our members of staff probably have been compromised in doing things which may not be above the law.”

Chidawu also said government was taken aback by instances where recreational land such as golf courses were being sold and turned into residential stands.

“We want to correct that so it is really not about a witch-hunt at all, but it is about getting things done properly. We want order in Harare and as you are aware, we had
instances where golf courses were sold.”

Provincial development co-ordinator Tafadzwa Muguti said there was an outcry from residents over an increase in car sales.

“People are cutting down trees, taking over playgrounds and road servitudes without consulting the residents.”

Acting mayor Stewart Mutizwa said there was need to investigate and ensure all car sales across the city have proper documentation.

Tout Hauled To Court For Parading Corpse

B A Correspondent- A 29 year old tout from Mabvuku in Harare was yesterday arraigned before the courts after he allegedly paraded a corpse of his deceased colleague.

Wishes Mukungurutse denied the charge when he appeared before magistrate Denis Mangosi.

He was remanded to June 3 on $5 000 bail.

The State led by prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti alleges that on May 16, 2021 at Tafara cemetery, Mukungurutse, together with his accomplices who are still at large, violently and forcibly took a coffin with Romeo Matavire’s corpse from a Nyaradzo Funeral Services vehicle.

The accused persons placed the coffin onto a Wish motor vehicle driven by Mukungurutse. He then sped off with corpse, skidding with his motor vehicle.

Chinese National Hauled To Court Over Bribe

By A Correspondent- A Chinese national and his two local accomplices were yesterday remanded in custody pending ruling on their bail application on allegations of attempting to bribe a police officer.

The accused, Mei Dong (31) of Credence Mining Corporation, Leegwan Mavhunga (36) and Velaphi Maposa (38) allegedly offered US$1 500 bribe to an investigating officer to destroy evidence in another matter involving Dong which is pending before the courts.

Dong is on bail on another case under CR 1823 04/21 in which he is being charged with fraud or alternatively obstructing or defeating the course of justice.

The State alleges that on May 12, 2021, Mavhunga called the investigating officer, only identified as Inspector Bota, and told him that he had been sent to talk about Dong’s case.

Mavhunga told the police officer that he had been sent by Dong to offer him money so that he destroys incriminating evidence against him and facilitate his removal from remand on the pending matter.

The investigating officer requested to speak with Dong over the phone to confirm what Mavhunga had told him.

Dong admitted that he was the one who sent Mavhunga.

The investigating officer notified his superiors about the matter, who decided to set a trap for Dong and his colleague.

On May 14, Mavhunga, who was with Dong, sent a message to the investigating officer informing him that he wanted to meet him in Hatfield and give him US$1 500 so that he destroys evidence in the fraud case, but the officer told them that he would meet them the following day.

On May 16, Mavhunga again called the investigating officer requesting to meet and give him the money and the officer opted to meet him in Mbare.

Mavhunga and Dong went to Mbare in a white Toyota Vanguard vehicle, registration number AEW7872, which was being driven by Maphosa.

Mavhunga gave the officer the money but he demanded to see Dong in person, before accepting the money.

Not knowing that it was a trap, Dong agreed to meet the officer and gave Mavhunga US$1 480 for him to hand over to the police officer who accepted it.

The three accused were arrested by a team of police officers who were monitoring the developments from afar.

The bribe money was recovered.

The State opposed bail for the trio arguing that there was overwhelming evidence against them.

The accused, through their lawyer Job Sikhala, filed their submissions in response to the State’s arguments yesterday. Lancelot Mutsokoti appeared for the State.

MDC Must Avoid Inter-Party Fighting To Win 2023- subtleties Of Rigging Are A Mystery To Simpletons

By Nomusa Garikai- The one thing Zanu PF apologist and propagandist have done well since the 2008 to 2013 GNU is convince the brain-dead MDC leaders and their supporters that the democratic reforms SADC leaders set out in the 2008 Global Political Agreement that gave rise to the GNU were all unnecessary because MDC had massive popular public support.

MDC will win the elections regardless how much Zanu PF tries to rig the elections. And the result was that MDC leaders failed to implement even one token reform during the GNU.

When Zanu PF rigged the 2013 elections to secure a landslide victory, Morgan Tsvangirai and many of his MDC leaders were shocked! They were speechless!

MDC-T resolved the party will never again participate in future elections until all the democratic reforms were implemented. “No reform! No elections!” The other MDC factions soon followed suit and adopted the resolution as their position too.

The Zanu PF double-agents knew MDC leaders’ weak point, Achilles’ heel, was greed. As long as Zanu PF continued to dangle the few gravy train seats to all those who participated in the elections regardless how flawed and illegal the process happened to be they knew the MDC leaders’ resolve to demand reforms before elections will disappear like the morning mist. All the double agents needed to work on is provide the excuse why MDC lost the 2013 elections – fit that and victory was certain.

We are being told here that opposition will win 2023 elections is the various factions are united.

“Avoid inter-party and intraparty fighting,” wrote Canisio Mudzimu.

“The infighting and Mickey Mouse battles that have characterised the opposition in this country have managed to divert its attention from the reason for its existence — opposition.

“It is paradoxical that the energy, resources, time and effort expended on the fights have moved opposition parties’ eyes from the ball and by the time they smell the coffee, it will be too late.”

What Mudzimu is conveniently forgetting is that the two MDC factions he is arguing to unite contested the July 2018 elections one united coalition, the MDC Alliance. Once again, Zanu PF prevailed because the party rigged the elections.

Zanu PF has used its carte blanche coercive powers to reduce the rural voters, constituting 60% plus of the votes, into nothing short of medieval serfs beholden to their overbearing landlords. Every time the party has felt its strangle hold on the rural populous threatened the party has gone up a gear to counter the threat.

It is no secret that President Mnangagwa’s cocky “Zimbabwe is open for business!” mantra is dead in the water. The flood of investors, he was sure would come, has never materialised.

By blatantly rigging the 2018 elections Mnangagwa confirmed to all, especially the shrewd investors, that Zimbabwe was still a Banana Republic, a pariah state, and the November 2017 military coup had changed nothing of substance.

Investors have shied away from investing in Zimbabwe because it is notoriously difficult to do business in a pariah state. And as long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state there will be no meaningful economic recovery.

The Zimbabwe economy has all but collapsed, unemployment has soared to 90%, basic services such as health care and education have all but collapsed, 49% of the population now live in abject poverty. The people are restless for change and we all know desperate people do desperate things like defy the overbearing Zanu PF landlords.

President Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies are not going to give up their electoral advantage without a fight and have thus responded to the threat of electoral rebellion by going up a gear or two on the party’s coercive machine. Starve those who dare challenge the party’s authority.

“Some Zanu-PF leaders purchased all the subsidized mealie-meal and went on to sell it to Zanu-PF members only, thus depriving thousands of people desperately needing the staple food, but did not have Zanu-PF membership cards,” reported Justina Mukoko’s Zimbabwe Peace Project.

“The partisan distribution of government food aid is a recurring problem in most rural areas which have been extensively reported on by various civil society organisations. It has left thousands of people food insecure when they desperately need food assistance during the difficult times of COVID-19.”

President Mnangagwa has already started mobilising the war veterans and the party’s youth militia, the green bombers, these are the party’s foot-soldiers if the party should see the need to go up a few more gears to coerce the voters. In the 2008 elections Zanu PF launched the “Operation Mavhotera papi!” to punish the voters for having reject Mugabe and the party in the March vote.

The party went into overdrive, as the party’s foot-soldiers supported by the Army, Police, CIO and Prison Services personal destroyed property worth millions of dollars, harassed, beat and/or raped millions and over 500 were murdered.

“What was accomplished by the bullet cannot be changed by the ballot!” thundered Robert Mugabe to spur the wanton violence on!

In 2018 MDC A was a united opposition but failed to win the elections because Zanu PF rigged the elections. Why is that simple reality so difficult to comprehend?

This idea that the opposition will win rigged elections is as nonsensical as someone who stubbornly continue betting on the coin landing Tail even thou the last 100 tosses plus have landed Head! The village idiot cannot comprehend the reality of a dodgy coin with two Heads! Stick two coins Tail side to Tail side and you have a dodgy coin with two Heads!

After 41 years of trying to win rigged elections, has it ever occurred to Mudzimu that we can have the democratic reforms implemented so we finally hold free, fair and credible elections!

Of course, it is insane to keep participating in flawed and illegal elections and give the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy. The alternative is to refuse to participate deny Zanu PF legitimacy as happened in 2008 only this time we must make sure the GNU implements the democratic reforms to guarantee free, fair and credible elections.

There are some people who have made up their minds to participate in the 2023 elections convinced the opposition can win rigged elections; they have but failed to imagine how anyone can rig elections, they are simpletons, and so believe Zanu PF cannot do so either. There will be many Win In Rigged Elections (WIRE) strategies the next two years, all with one thing in common – pointless nonsense!

Reactions To Zimbabwe Voting Against Ending Genocide

By A Correspondent| Zimbabwe has been shamed by the United Nations for voting against a UN resolution on responsibility to protect and prevent genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity.

Of the 158 countries that voted, 115 voted YES, 15 including Zimbabwe, China, Russia, Bolivia, Egypt and many others.

Now Zimbabweans have come guns blazing against the government for its decision to back genocide and war crimes.

Former tourism minister Walter Mzembi said Zimbabwe missed an opportunity to brand itself as a genuine New Dispensation.

“Mugabe, Stalin,Mao, Chavez, Castro, Sung , etc for all the listed NOs would have objected even today. They rule from their graves. An opportunity for Zimbabwe to Rebrand itself and affirm its ” New Dispensation ” tag has been missed , Nothing New,” said Mzembi.

Kent University lecturer, Alex Magaisa said Zimbabwe had exhibited traits of the old order by continuing to associate with the bad boys gang.

“2018 I had a conversation with a diplomat at the UN in New York. He said the “New Dispensation” was going to take a new direction in international relations by ditching the image of being with the “bad boys gang”. It would abstain rather than vote. But some things never change,” said Magaisa.

Mukuru Duo Hauled To Court Over US$100k Theft

By A Correspondent- Two employees of Send Money Home trading as  Mukuru.Com  appeared in court facing allegations of stealing US$100 000 from their employer.

It is alleged that the money was reserved for a bus company, Inter Africa.

Branch manager Alexander Zengeni, 30, and Raphael Ruduvo, 34, his assistant at the Sam Nujoma branch in central Harare appeared before Harare Magistrate Dennis Mangosi facing theft of trust property charges.

Zengeni and Ruduvo were not asked to plead and will be back in court on Thursday for their bail ruling.

According to court papers, on February 23 this year, the two allegedly received US$100 000 from Fawcett Security Company guards for safekeeping on behalf of Inter Africa.

It is alleged that the trunk carrying the money was secured with two security seals, which the two accused persons acknowledged by signing relevant documents before securing the trunk in a vault.

Zengeni and Ruduvo were the only employees with access to the vault.

However, Ruduvo was in April transferred to Send Money Home headquarters at Tendeseka office in Eastlea, Harare and before his transfer, Ruduvo allegedly handed all the valuables in the vault excluding the trunk in question to one Fiona Musandirire who had been promoted to replace him at the Sam Nujoma branch.

Musandirire is said to have noted that the trunk’s seals had been tampered with and broken. She brought this to Zengeni and Ruduvo’s attention, but was told not to worry about the trunk and its contents.

On May 3, Fawcett Security guards were sent to collect the trunk from Send Money Home after Zengeni had been advised by one Anthony from Inter Africa.

Zengeni then instructed Musandirire to process the transaction and surprisingly Ruduvo who had already transferred to head office emerged  behind the security guards and offered to assist.

Ruduvo then purportedly removed the broken seals and caused the Fawcett Security guards to replace the seals without even checking if the money was there or bringing the matter to his employer’s attention.

It is alleged that the trunk was collected and sent to the client who discovered the cash was missing.

CCTV footage showed Zengeni and Ruduvo stashing the money inside their pockets and the two were also seen breaking the trunk seals which led to their arrest.

Emergency Meeting In Manicaland Over Ritual Killings

By A Correspondent- Traditional healers, prophets and community leaders in Manicaland province held an emergency meeting in the wake of ritual killings that have been reported in the province in recent months.

In April, two Mutasa Grade One pupils were brutally murdered and their bodies dumped into a disused Blair toilet.

Dilan and Melissa Benza (both seven-year-olds), who were cousins, were murdered on their way home from Mbaza Primary School.

A week later, a 57-year-old tractor driver, Grey Chirimo, who was employed by Allied Timbers, was found dead in Nyangani Dam, five days after he had disappeared with the tractor he was driving when he was last seen.

The tractor was found by members of the police sub-aqua unit two days before his body was discovered in Nyangani Dam.

The ritual killings have brought traditional leaders under the spotlight, amid accusations that they are the ones who prescribe human body parts to be used as charms.

A spokesperson for the Zimbabwe National Practitioners Association (ZINPA) Petronela Yeukai Chiusaru said recently they held a meeting which was attended by the police, chiefs, headmen, and traditional healers including prophets.

ZINPA Vice President Dr Hatizivi Nyamandwe urged the public to consult registered healers. He said:

It was agreed that a database of all registered practitioners in that area is to be produced to the police as well as chiefs.

Healers are not allowed to practice witch-hunting in the area.

Chipinge Man Killed Over Stolen Dog

By A Correspondent- A Chipinge man was reportedly assaulted to death after he sold a dog which he had stolen from a local villager.

It was reported that the now-deceased Lucky Tsegure (39) of Mukumba Village under Chief Mapungwana sold a dog to Clement Chibvepi.

The dog is reported to have been stolen from a local man only identified as Chimene.

Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luxson Chananda said on May 12 at around 1700hrs, Tsegure and Solomon Mudimba Mutisi went to Themba Ndambi homestead to partake illicit beer known in the local lingo as sope New Zimbabwe reports.

Clement, his brother Christopher Chibvepi and Martin Chitemera Dube (39) of Mwandipfura Village under Chief Mutema were also at the same homestead drinking illicit brew.

When the trio saw Tsegure, it accused him of selling a stolen dog to Clement.

The buyer realised he had purchased a stolen dog after he was confronted by the owner.

Clement started assaulting him. Ndambi tried to restrain him but failed.

The other suspects joined the fracas and reportedly dragged the deceased to Budzi River 3 km away.

Along the way, they assaulted him using sticks and fists calling him a thief.

Tsegure’s body was found the following day around 6 am by Bothell Sithole without his trousers on.

Sithole reported the matter at Chipinge Rural Police Station.

After investigations police could not find the three suspects as it is believed that they did not return to Ndambi’s homestead after committing the offence.

Tsegure’s body was taken to Chipinge District Hospital for a post mortem.

Sticks used to assault the deceased were found at the site where his body was dumped and taken as  an exhibit.

Unpaid Bills To Cost Ratepayers Their Homes

By A Correspondent- Bulawayo City Council (BCC) Town Clerk Christopher Dube said the local authority will take drastic action that could see ratepayers losing their homes over unpaid bills.

BCC is owed over $1.1 billion by residents, businesses and Government departments in the city and its ballooning debt has left it technically insolvent as its debtors almost equal its creditors.

As of March 2021, the local authority was owed $1.13 billion while it owed $1.06 billion.

Dube told a media briefing on Tuesday that water disconnection was not an effective debt recovery strategy and Council will be forced to take radical measures to force ratepayers to clear their debts. He said:

We are not going to be using one strategy (water disconnections), we are going to use so many of these strategies.

First, we will disconnect you, if it doesn’t work, we will take you to court and, in the end, you will end up losing your property.

We try to conscientise our residents through various forms of media and also through our councillors.

We also try to make sure that the money that has accumulated through a 10 per cent retention scheme is also used in various wards so that people can understand that payments is good for everyone maybe that will also encourage the residents.

The serious one would be taking you to court and take away properties, unfortunately.

The Council is under fire from residents due to failure to attend to burst sewers on time, dilapidated road networks, failure to consistently provide water and collection of refuse.

Pensioners Scoff At NSSA’s Mobile Clinics

By A Correspondent- Pensioners say the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) should pay them sustainable payouts to enable them to seek medication anywhere instead of introducing mobile clinics.

Bulawayo Pensioners Forum co-ordinator Winos Dube said mobile clinics were welcome although they were a short-term measure. Said, Dube:

In our presentation to the minister (Labour and Social Welfare), we had indicated that the issue of mobile clinics despite it being of help would not be very effective.

Our argument is that by the time the mobile clinic will be in Gwanda, what will be happening with the people in Bulawayo, Tsholotsho and other places.

What we are saying is that they better have clinics in every area so that pensioners will be attended there.

If pensioners were being paid sustainable payouts, they would be able to seek medication anywhere in the country.

This comes after NSSA deputy director for marketing Tendayi Mutseyekwa said they were going to introduce mobile clinics across the country to cater for pensioners.

But Dube that the mobile clinics will benefit very few people at any particular point.

He said:

They have started to do it here in Bulawayo but we are saying if the clinic is going to open on May 22 from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm, how many people will have been attended to?

We are talking of pensioners with some failing to walk to Barbourfields Stadium where the mobile clinic will be.

Meanwhile, Mutseyekwa also said NSSA had increased payouts and introduced grocery vouchers for pensioners and widows.

Knowe Residential Area Gets Facelift

By A Correspondent| Knowe, Norton an upmarket residential area which has been a turf of attrition between the land developer and residents is undergoing facelift after the land developer Eddies Pfugari (Pvt) Limited started implanting a High Court order which compelled them to develop the area.

The court had initially sentenced founder of the company Nyanyiwa, popularly known as Eddies Pfugari, to a civil imprisonment for failing to implement the order.

He however died soon afterwards and the Knowe Residents and Ratepayers Association made another application seeking to have the ruling effected on Edward Jnr who inherited the company.

The High Court dismissed the application.

The association then appealed at the Supreme Court and the case is yet to be finalised.

Notwithstanding, Eddies Pfugari (Pvt) Ltd is already on the ground paving roads in all Knowe’s four phases and laying the groundwork for the water and sewer reticulation system to be put in place.

“We are currently servicing Phase 1, we are maintaining roads and filling holes. As you know this year we had heavy rains and they damaged our roads. We will soon be paving roads in Phase 2, 3 and 4. This is an ongoing process that will take some time but we expect to finish before the end of the year,” Eddies Pfugari (Pvt) Ltd projects manager Stanley Banda said.

In an interview yesterday, Eddies Pfugari Jnr said he is being forced to repeat the work his father once did because of a major dispute with his siblings over his father’s estate.

He said his father had actually obtained compliance documents showing all the works were approved by council but they have gone missing.

“As the managing director of the company (Eddie’s Pfugari Pvt Ltd) I am disappointed to repeat the work that my father already did because of family fighting. The documents showing the compliance were among the documents stolen in the office, therefore I couldn’t prove to the Norton town council or either the Knowe residents,” he said.

“But I am ready to comply with court order as well as further my development obligations as Knowe developer,” he added.

Knowe residents said they were happy to see development works being undertaken.

“They are doing a lot of work. There are caterpillars and bulldozers working round the clock servicing the area,” said forty-three year Gift Mukono, adding: “I hope Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority will soon come to the party and avail electricity.”

Another resident Karikoga Munemo said: “We are glad that the land developer has decided to spring into action. We know that there has been friction between them and the town authorities but as residents we prefer the land developers to develop our residence because once this work is entrusted into the hands of the town council, that’s the end of the story.”

NUST Lecturer Attacked, Husband Dies

By A Correspondent- A couple from Pelandaba suburb in Bulawayo was attacked by robbers, leading to the death of the husband while the wife escaped with chest stab wounds.

The incident also brought to the fore the collapse of the city’s emergence services after they failed to show up to ferry the victims to the hospital.

The attack occurred last Wednesday shortly after 6 PM at Pelandaba Cemetery.

Misheck Rindai Mapeta (54) and Sarudzai Portia Showa (43) of Pelandaba West, both devout members of the Mugodhi Apostolic Faith Church for the past 20 years, were walking home from a nearby bus stop using a footpath.

Chronicle reported sources as saying one of the suspects grabbed Showa by the right hand, dragged her to the side of the road and stabbed her with a knife thrice on the chest and once on the head.

Said the source:

The other two suspects attacked Mapeta as they demanded money and cell phones. They indiscriminately stabbed him on the right eye, back, right rib and head.

Showa, a National University of Science and Technology senior lecturer, escaped leaving her husband at the mercy of the robbers.

She alerted neighbours who accompanied her to the scene where they found him lying unconsciously in a pool of blood.

Mapeta died before he and his wife were taken to the hospital.

Shylet Phiri, a neighbour, said a week hardly passes by without an incident involving rape and robbery in the suburb.

She said:

We are having cases of people being mugged and raped at the cemetery almost every week, but sadly police are not doing anything in terms of arrests. The moment it gets dark, the cemetery and surrounding areas turn into a no-go area.

These robbers waylay people at the cemetery soon after dropping off at the bus stop. Residents, especially women are no longer safe particularly in the evening because we don’t have buses accessing the suburb because of poor roads.

Acting Bulawayo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said no arrests have been made.

She urged members of the public to avoid using bushy footpaths, especially in the evening as they risk their lives.

Bulawayo Chief Fire Officer Linos Phiri said they will investigate his charges’ failure to respond to the call for help.

Epworth Family Nabbed For Theft From Relative

By A Correspondent- A 15-year-old Shurugwi girl and her father (41) have been arrested for allegedly stealing US$12 500 and RTGS14 000 from their relative who was looking after the girl.

The girl discovered that her relative- a businesswoman from Shurugwi- was keeping large amounts of money in her house and allegedly tipped her father.

Taking advantage of the businesswoman’s absence, the father broke down the bedroom door, ransacked the room and allegedly stole $12 500 and RTGS 14 000.

The father was allegedly arrested at his hideout in Epworth.

This was heard during the appearance of the girl (name withheld to protect her identity) and her father Moses Munikwa before Shurugwi Magistrate Mr Percy Mukumba facing a charge of theft and unlawful entry.

The duo was not asked to plead.

She runs several businesses and has buildings that she rents out.
They heard that she was staying with the accused’s daughter including paying her fees at Booms College in Shurugwi.

From February 2021 up to the end of March 2021 the complainant collected rentals from her shops and kept them in different places in her house.
On April 4, 2021, at about 930am when the complainant and the girl left the house for church, the father is said to have been left hiding under some steps inside the house by her daughter.

After church, the complainant got home first as the girl remained in town looking for bread and on getting there discovered that her bedroom was upside down with the key lock broken.

She realised that US$12 500 and RTGS$14 000 RTGS which was in a purse was missing.

Her son Maxwell reported the case to Police and investigations led to Munikwa’s arrest.

Greatman Welcomes Son With New Song

Government Moves To Close “Illegal” Car Sales

The government is investigating car sales that have inundated Harare with a view to establishing their legality.

Addressing the media in Harare on Tuesday, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Harare Metropolitan Province Oliver Chidawu said there is a need to restore order in the city. Chidawu said:

We have this city being turned, in fact, all roads are being turned into car sales. We have noticed in some areas like Lomagundi Road where there are a lot of car sales.

We do not know the process that has been followed. We are now emphasising that we want orderliness.

We want to ensure that we follow planning and if people are following planning, we have no problems with them, but what we have noticed is within that, some of our members of staff probably have been compromised in doing things which may not be above the law.

Chidawu also bemoaned the conversion of golf courses into residential stands, vowing that corrective measures will be taken. He said:

We want to correct that so it is really not about a witch-hunt at all, but it is about getting things done properly. We want order in Harare and as you are aware, we had instances where golf courses were sold.

MDC Alliance Calls Ziyambi To Order: Full Text

Mnangagwa Says Western Sanctions Don’t Stop Production

Mnangagwa on his tour – credits, Herald

BUSINESS and Zimbabwe at large should forget about baneful sanctions that were imposed by Western countries on the country and focus on local resources through value addition and increasing exports, President Mnangagwa said.
The President who is on a nationwide tour of the country’s manufacturing sector to gauge capacity utilisation, assess challenges faced and proffer solutions, was yesterday in Mutare where he toured Wattle, Mega Market and Willowton.

Building on the success of the Second Republic interventions, including the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Foreign Currency Auction System as well as the taming of inflation, two measures that have brought economic stability, the President said his administration stands ready to create an enabling environment where businesses thrive and also promote innovation as it is an essential ingredient to the country’s quest to become an upper middle-income economy by 2030.

“Forget about the illegal sanctions. Focus on the resources in our country. We can build our country brick by brick to prosperity. We also have friends in Africa and abroad. What we need is to be united and forge ahead. Sanctions have helped us to be ourselves,” he said.

The President also saluted the manufacturing sector which has weathered not only the sanctions storm but also climate vagaries and other economic shocks such as the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The fact that locally produced goods now constitute a larger share of our country’s supermarket shelves should encourage consumers to buy products made in Zimbabwe. The developments will have a positive impact on sustainable socio-economic growth, empowerment and employment creation as envisaged in the National Development Strategy 1,” he said.

President Mnangagwa said it was crucial for the manufacturing sector to exercise prudence and discipline so that their products remain affordable to the majority of consumers.

“Allow me to state that my Government is indeed alive to the challenges that are being faced by industry, including the companies we have visited today. I urge the private sector, throughout the country, to continue to proactively engage Government and it’s agencies in the spirit of dialogue, engagement and moving our country towards a more prosperous society,” he said.

The President was accompanied by Minister of Defence and War Veterans Hon Oppah Muchinguri, Minister of Information and Publicity and Broadcasting Services Senator Monica Mutsvangwa, Industry and Commerce Minister Sekei Nzenza among other senior Government officials.

President Mnangagwa said the visit to Wattle which specialises in timber processing, Willowton which focus on edible oil and Mega Factory which is into packaging and milling, was in line with the Second Republic’s culture of a listening Government.

“It is my hope that my delegation will gain insights towards development of a robust and responsive policies for the growth of the economy.

This collective approach further lays a sound foundation for the productive sectors to scale up production, productivity and capacity utilisation for the transformation as well as diversification of the country’s industrial sector,” he said.

Modernisation, industrialisation and economic growth, the President said, remain a top priority for the Second Republic and this can be achieved through value addition in both the timber and edible oil sub-sectors among the broader sectors of the economy.

“Two days ago (Monday), I hosted the Abrosetti Chief Executive Officers Community Africa Chapter at State House. The meeting was held under the theme, ‘the future of Zimbabwe and Africa post-Covid-19 scenario’, and presented a platform for the Abrosetti Chapter an exposure to investment opportunities in our country. In this context, it is my anticipation that various sectors of the economy and provinces will follow up on the networks created by Government through such forums,” he said.

Since coming to power in 2017, the President has deliberately pursued a re-engagement and engagement policy which is now bearing fruits while his mantra that “Zimbabwe is Open for Business” has resulted in investors from across the globe trooping in.

Apart from that, the President has made devolution a key priority and yesterday challenged the province of Manicaland to scale up its production levels towards the attainment of an empowered and prosperous upper middle income economy by 2030.

“Investment by Mega Market into various projects which support the Local Content Strategy and Import Substitution Policy are celebrated. These will equally contribute to the objectives of the devolution and economic fortunes of Manicaland Province through the creation of employment and empowerment opportunities.

“Plans to set up the stock feeds and pasta manufacturing plants are most welcome and attest to the fact that Zimbabwe is a safe and favourable investment destination,” he said.

Mega Markets managing director Mr Shiraan Ahmed Muhammad, whose company is into maize and wheat milling, tomato sauce production, kapenta, popcorn and sugar bean distribution, said the policies that have been implemented by the Second Republic are inspiring.

“We are honoured that you took time to be here with us today. It shows your commitment to the business community and also Mutare at large. From the time you became President the narrative changed from what business can do for Government to what Government can do for business,” he said.

Mr Mohammed also commended Government for stabilising the economy, and the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination programme saying the two interventions allow companies to focus on their core businesses.

Infrastructural development, industrial full capitalisation, innovation and technology, along with the mining and agriculture sector are key components of the country’s economic recovery plan.

Already, the positives are being felt as local products are occupying space in the supermarkets, jobs are being created, and the agriculture sector, the mainstay of the country’s economy is on a rebound thanks to programme such as Pfumvudza and also Command Agriculture. -Chronicle

About COVID-19 Vaccines

Countries around the world are rolling out COVID-19 vaccines, and a key topic of interest is their safety. Vaccine safety is one of WHO’s highest priorities, and we’re working closely with national authorities to develop and implement standards to ensure that COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective.

Ensuring safety

Millions of people have safely received COVID-19 vaccines. All of the approved COVID-19 vaccines have been carefully tested and continue to be monitored.

Like all vaccines, COVID-19 vaccines go through a rigorous, multi-stage testing process, including large clinical trials that involve tens of thousands of people. These trials are specifically designed to identify any safety concerns

An external panel of experts convened by WHO analyses the results from clinical trials and recommends whether and how the vaccines should be used. Officials in individual countries decide whether to approve the vaccines for national use and develop policies for how to use the vaccines based on WHO recommendations.

After a COVID-19 vaccine is introduced, WHO supports work with vaccine manufacturers, health officials in each country and other partners to monitor for any safety concerns on an ongoing basis.

New vaccine technology
Some COVID-19 vaccines have been developed with an approach that uses messenger RNA (mRNA). The mRNA vaccine technology has been studied for over a decade, including in the development of vaccines for Zika, rabies and influenza.

These mRNA vaccines have been rigorously assessed for safety, and clinical trials have shown that they provide a long-lasting immune response. mRNA vaccines are not live virus vaccines and do not interfere with human DNA. For more information on mRNA vaccines, see WHO’s explainer on the different types of COVID-19 vaccines.

Safety of COVID-19 vaccines for different groups

COVID-19 vaccines have been tested in large, randomized controlled trials that include people of a broad age range, both sexes, different ethnicities, and those with known medical conditions. The vaccines have shown a high level of efficacy across all populations. Vaccines have been found to be safe and effective in people with various underlying medical conditions that are associated with increased risk of severe disease. These include high blood pressure; diabetes; asthma; pulmonary, liver or kidney disease; and chronic infections that are stable and controlled.

Those who should consult with a doctor before vaccination include people with a compromised immune system, older people with severe frailty, people with a history of severe allergic reaction to vaccines, people living with HIV, and those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Pregnancy

While pregnancy brings a higher risk of severe COVID-19, at present, very little data is available to assess vaccine safety in pregnancy. However, people at high risk of exposure to the COVID-19 virus (such as health workers), or who have a history of underlying medical conditions that increase their risk of severe disease, may be vaccinated during pregnancy after consultation with their health care provider.

There is no evidence that suggests vaccination would cause harm during pregnancy.

Breastfeeding

The vaccine can be offered to those who are breastfeeding if they are part of a group recommended for vaccination (health workers, for example).

Safety of COVID-19 vaccines for children
COVID-19 vaccine trials for children are currently under way, and when results become available, WHO will provide updated guidance for vaccination in children. Vaccine trials targeting adults were prioritized because COVID-19 has proven to be a more serious and dangerous disease among older populations.

Following proven health measures is still the best way to keep everyone, including children, safe from COVID-19. This includes keeping hands clean, practising sneezing and coughing into bent elbows, opening windows, wearing a mask if age-appropriate, and continuing physical distancing…

Father & Daughter Arrested For Theft From Relative

The girl was remanded out of custody while her father was remanded in custody 10 June 4.

The court heard that the complainant Mrs Elizabeth Nkala (72) is a businesswoman in Shurugwi.

She runs several businesses and has buildings that she rents out.
They heard that she was staying with the accused’s daughter including paying her fees at Booms College in Shurugwi.

The State alleges that the girl realised that Nkala kept a lot of money in the house and she told her father about this and the two connived to steal it.

Top Cop Dragged In Zanu PF Factional Fights

By A correspondent- The officer-In-Charge for Headlands police station, Norbert Ngandini is in the eye of a political storm after allegedly joining Zanu PF-aligned Headlands Development Association (HDA), which deals with land issues.

The HDA is the brainchild of Headlands MP Christopher Chingosho (Zanu PF) and was formed almost two weeks ago.

It recently torched a storm when it announced that oversized farms owned by party bigwigs in the constituency would be targeted for downsizing.

Sources who attended the recent HDA meeting expressed dismay that Ngandini, who is a police officer, had joined the association.

“We are not happy that the Headlands officer-in-charge was co-opted into a political organisation called Headlands Development Association run by Headlands MP Chingosho. It’s illegal for police officers to do so as they are not allowed to join political formations,” the source said.

“The officer-in-charge is a committee member, but we are told that he is feeling the pressure over the position.”

Ngandini, however, refuted the allegations saying they were mere rumours. He said he had since approached his police bosses to discuss the issue.

“These are just rumours, people are saying all sorts of things. I think you can contact my bosses at the district and provincial levels over the matter. I last met MP Chingosho a long time ago, and you can even ask him,” Ngandini said.

Chingosho yesterday said he could not comment on the issue as he was in a meeting.

But reports in Headlands revealed that Chingosho was at loggerheads with party bigwigs like former Agriculture minister Joseph Made and former Finance minister Patrick Chinamasa over land issues. Chinamasa is reportedly eyeing Chingosho’s Headlands constituency in the 2023 harmonised elections.

MDC Alliance Delegation Blocked From Seeing Makomborero Haruvizishe

Tinashe Sambiri|A delegation of MDC Alliance Assembly Of Women members was on Monday barred from seeing jailed human rights activist Makomborero Haruvizishe.

In a statement the MDC Alliance Assembly Of Women Harare Province castigated the Zanu PF regime for suppressing the rights of those in prison:

Yesterday as the Harare Province Women’s Assembly Management we went to Harare Remand Prison to visit the national youth chairman Obey Sithole.

He was in high spirits despite his current incarceration and told us that in prison everyone hates Zanu PF because of its continued abuse of Zimbabwean citizens.

He encouraged us to find ways of aligning the laws so that there is a stipulated maximum period that one can spend in remand prison without his case being tried.

As there are currently prisoners who have been in remand for more than 8 years just because a judgement has been set aside. All prisoners deserve their day in court and proper legal representation as one is innocent until proven guilty.

We later went to Central prison to see leader Makomborero Haruzivishe but we were denied entry to see him which is a right that every prisoner has but the Mnangagwa government are further persecuting Mako while in prison.

Katsande Keen To Coach Warriors

Former Warriors skipper Willard ‘Salt and Vinegar’ Katsande has revealed his ambition to become the national team coach after retiring from playing.

The 34-year old tough-tackling Kaizer Chiefs midfielder was somewhat forced to retire from international football, allegedly by the Philip Chiyangwa-led ZIFA board after the AFCON finals in 2017.

Katsande however aspires to still contribute to the Warriors, but in a different role.

“I’m doing a couple of things, and at the same time I’m going to venture into coaching, but I want to be the Zimbabwe national team coach,” Katsande said on Vodacom’s interactive show on YouTube, Ringa Nathi.

“When I retired I told them ‘I am still going to come back to the national team but not as a player, but as a coach’ so, I’m going to chase my dream on that and maybe one day I am going to coach Chiefs. Obviously I’m very demanding on myself, but other than that I have a few businesses that I am trying and also studying but at the same time, time is not enough,” he added.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Mighty Warriors Clash With Eswatini Postponed

Mighty Warriors’ qualifying campaign for the 2022 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations has been postponed to October, CAF has confirmed.

The national women’s team was supposed to play Eswatini in the first round of the qualifiers next month and had already started the preparations.

In a letter sent to ZIFA and other member associations, CAF said the postponement was based on similar reasons that delayed the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June.

The qualifiers were put on hold because of the condition of several stadiums across the continent and travel restrictions related to COVID19.

“CAF’s Organising Committee of Women Football decided to postpone the qualifiers of the women Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2022 In line with the postponement of the Men World Cup Qualifiers,” CAF said.

“The reasons of the postponements were based on the actual conditions of certain stadiums in Africa and the restrictions related to COVID19.

“The 1st round will now take place in the FIFA window of 18 to 26 October, 2021 and the second round will take place in the FIFA window of 14 to 23 February, 2022.”

The postponement will help the Mighty Warriors adequately prepare for the game after spending several months without playing football due to the pandemic.

They missed a chance to play a friendly game against South Africa last month after facing logistical issues.

Maid Who Axed Employer And Fled To Mozambique Nabbed

By A Correspondent- A maid who allegedly murdered her employer,  robbed her and fled to Mozambique has been finally arrested, 3 years after committing the heinous crime.

23-year-old Tabeth Mashizha of Muzanenhamo Village Chief Chirau was nabbed by the police after she attended a prayer session held by an apostolic sect in Zvimba.

Vigilant police officers apprehended Mashizha who appeared before Chinhoyi provincial magistrate Tamari Chibindi facing murder charges.

During the court hearing, the prosecution laid out the state’s case against Tabeth Mashizha. The state alleged that Mashizha committed the crime together with her husband Stanford Mazibiye.

Mashizha and Mazibiye, who also uses the name Farai Sithole, were both employed at the Masabera homestead as domestic workers.

In August 2018, Mashizha and her husband plotted to steal from their employer. When they were left at the homestead alone with Netty Mangachaya the two decided to take their opportunity. Husband and wife armed themselves with an axe and a hammer and attacked Mangachaya with the weapons. The prosecution alleges that the two struck Mangachaya repeatedly using the axe and the hammer until she died.

With no one to hinder their plan, husband and wife then ransacked their employer’s house and made off with US$6 000 cash. The two fled to Mozambique, where Mazibiye’s parents have a home.

The officer who had investigated the original murder case, detective Sergeant Morris Mlilo testified that Mashizha should not be granted bail because she is a flight risk with well-established roots outside the country.

He also told the court that Mashizha is an experienced border jumper who was well versed with the illegal crossing points into Mozambique.

Magistrate Chibindi remanded Mashizha to 31 May. The magistrate also denied her bail and advised her to apply for bail at the High Court instead.

About COVID-19 Vaccines And Pregnancy

Shock As Woman Kills Granddaughter For “Stealing” 100 Bond

CHIPINGE – A Chipinge woman has appeared in court after she allegedly whipped her seven-year old grand-daughter to death after accusing her of stealing ZWL$100.
Edinah Makuyana (56) of Maengeni Village Daisyhill Chipinge appeared before Franklin Mkwananzi at Chipinge Magistrates Court facing murder charges.

Prosecutor Timothy Katsande said on Friday last week, at around 330pm, Makuyana checked her money which she kept in an empty camphor cream container and found nothing. She asked the two siblings Tadiwanashe Sithole and Sithandikile Masunungure who at first denied and later after threats Tadiwanashe admitted that she took the money.
Makuyana took a sjambok and assaulted Tadiwanashe several times all over the body, the court heard.

After beating her, Makuyana told Tadiwanashe to sit under a mango tree. Tadiwanashe complained that her body was getting weak and she went and rested in the bedroom.

Makuyana checked on her at around 6pm and found her lying lifeless on a mattress.
The accused was not asked to plead and the matter was remanded to May 24, 2021.

She was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.- The Mirror

Overzealus Prison Guards Block MDC Alliance Delegation From Seeing Makomborero Haruvizishe

All prisoners have rights

Jealous Wife Teams Up With Sister, Assault Hubby’s Small House

By A Correspondent- A jealous wife from Muriel Mine in Mashonaland West teamed up with her younger sister to assault her husband’s adulterous lover, colloquially known as a small house.

30-year-old Priscilla Femera received information from undisclosed sources that her husband was having an illicit affair with Precious Munyaradzi, 39.

This did not go down well with Femera who enlisted the help of her younger sister Anna Phiri to assault the alleged ‘homewrecker.’

The two sisters then agreed to go teach Munyaradzi a lesson at her place of residence. The two went to Munyaradzi’s home and Femera called her outside.

When Munyaradzi came out, Femera immediately attacked her and did not give her a chance to say or explain anything. The angry wife dragged Munyaradzi to the flower bed and furiously assaulted her. Phiri also joined in the fray as the two sisters assaulted their alleged love rival.

One of Munyaradzi’s neighbours, Godfrey Chapanda heard her screams of anguish and rushed to her aide, where he managed to restrain the two sisters.

Following the assault, Munyaradzi filed a police report. She also alleged that she had lost her iTel A16 mobile phone and US$65.

The two sisters appeared before Chinhoyi provincial magistrate Tapiwa Banda facing assault charges. They were found guilty and sentenced to 30 days in prison.

However, magistrate Banda spared them from going to prison after he gave them the option of paying a fine of $10,000 each.

Bogus Soldier Nabbed For Fleecing Potential Recruits

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) last week nabbed a bogus soldier, Munamati Mkuhuleki Nyathi (36), for duping potential recruits while masquerading as a recruiting agent.

Nyathi was once a member of the ZNA and was discharged from the force for disciplinary reasons last year.

He was arrested for defrauding potential recruits in Guruve where the ZNA was conducting a recruitment.

In a statement yesterday, ZNA director public relations Colonel Alphios Makotore said: “A bogus soldier Nyathi Mkuhuleki Munamati (36) was apprehended by members of the ZNA military police at Guruve Centre last week for defrauding potential recruits US$140.

“Nyathi was discharged from the force in 2020.”

Col Makotore said circumstances around the issue were that Nyathi approached the complainants Michael Gunje (23) and Tatenda Chitsiga both from Guruve and promised to facilitate their recruitment into the ZNA.

He then gave the complainants assurance that they would get the job, citing that he was going to be assisted by a General since he was well connected.

Col Makotore said Nyathi further took the complainants to Harare on the pretext that he was going to introduce them to the said General where he allegedly dumped them near Harare Central Prison along the road leading to Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks.

He said the matter came to light when the complainants made a report at the Harare District military police department, leading to the arrest of Nyathi.

Col Makotore said Nyathi was handed over to Guruve Police Station and appeared at Guruve Magistrate Courts last Saturday and remanded in custody.

He advised members of the public that the ZNA did not engage third parties in its recruitment processes.

“The ZNA would once again like to warn members of the public that it does not engage third parties on recruitment practices, neither charge a fee on applicants wishing to join the force,” said Col Makotore.

“Members of the public who are approached or come across these bogus soldiers should immediately report to the nearest police station or ZNA Military Police branches.”

Harare Businessman Reports Ken Sharpe To NPA Over Counter Move To Confuse Judiciary

BY A CORRESPONDENT| A prominent Harare businessman George Katsimberis has written to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) over criminal charges filed by controversial land baron Kenneth Raydon Sharpe against him in a bid to confuse and frustrate the justice process.

Katsimberis wants his fraud charge to be scrapped off the role to allow him to freely testify against Sharpe and his accomplices without the threat of being punished for it.

Through his lawyer, Tendai Biti, Katsimberis said charges against him were filed months after he had reported Sharpe and his accomplices who include the now suspended City of Harare Town Clerk Hosiah Abraham Chisango for malicious damage to property and perjury.

He is the key witness on the two charges and now has to juggle from one court room to the other in what he believes is a breach of his rights to protection by the law.

“We write to you at the instance of our client Mr George Katsimberis who is facing criminal charges with the above reference number in the regional court.

“Mr Katsimberis, trial, is supposed to commence on 15 April 2021. We confirm that we have made several complaints against the Regional Prosecutor. The complaints on behalf of our client have been the following;

“That in any event, our client is facing charges, in a matter in respect of which in the very same court he is the key State Witness in charges by the State against witnesses in his own criminal proceedings namely, Michael Van Blerk, Pokugara Properties and others,” said Biti.

“In view of the above it will clearly be unconstitutional and in breach of our right to equal protection and benefit of the law and our client’s right to fairness, if our client were to face criminal proceedings,” further reads Biti’s letter.

Katsimberis has previously raised the same complain with the Special Anti-Corruption Unit in the office of the President (SACU) who promised to look into the issue.

In its letter to the Prosecutor General, SACU said the first reported case should be completed which in this case would have seen fraud charges against Katsimberis being scrapped off.

“SACU, therefore by copy of this letter advises your esteemed office and all the concerned parties to take note and consider how best justice can be saved in this case. SACU is of the view that the case which was reported first must be completed without threatening a witness with criminal charges on the same facts.

“It should be noted that these two cases relates to the same approved plan for the same stand. It should be made clear as well that George Katsimberis was the first to report and Pokugara Properties and Michael John Van Blerk were the first to be charged and after that a witness and complainant George Katsimberis was charged for the same facts before he took his stand on the witness stand,” said SACU head Thabani Mpofu.

He further urged the Prosecutor General to deal with corruption cases in a coordinated manner to avoid putting a witness in a situation where he feels as if he is being punished for testifying against Sharpe.

“Corruption related cases should be handled in a well-co-ordinated manner and a witness who is about to stand to testify in a case should not be made to be put in a situation which appear like he is being charged or punished for testifying against certain individuals,” added Mpofu.

Professor Jonathan Moyo, Why Do You Want Us To Participate In Flawed Elections To Give Vote Rigging Zanu PF Legitimacy?

By Wilbert Mukori- “Some people have said to me, ‘If you want us to believe you are no longer working for Zanu PF then tell us how Zanu PF rigged the elections!’ They say that expecting some Mafia like, Movie like, ways that are used to rig the elections. No!” Professor Jonathan Moyo told his audience in a recent SAPES Trust panel discussion.

“The major, major thing with ZEC vote rigging is undercounting the opposition votes by having 14 or 15 ballots in a supposedly 10 ballot – lot; whilst overcounting Zanu PF votes by having 7 or 8 ballots in a 10 ballot -lot. ZEC will do the same with 10 lot – bundles.”

He went on explain the critical importance of having election agents, “each Polling Station should have at least four election agents”, he said.

Even if one had eagle-eyed election agents who saw to it that very candidate, Zanu PF or opposition, 10 ballot – lot had exactly 10 ballots, every bundle had exactly 10 lots, etc. Counting may be the “major, major thing” still it is not the only thing that can go wrong.

Even the eagle-eyed elections agents will not be able to check everything that all the ZEC officials especially since it is common knowledge that very often loyal Zanu PF officials and/or CIO double up as ZEC officials. The eagle-eyed election agent will not know that known Zanu PF supporters who are not on the voters’ roll are being allowed to vote whilst opposition supporters are being denied the vote under the pretext they are not on the voters roll when they are.

The 2008 elections were a watershed in that they revealed the wide spectrum of Zanu PF’s vote rigging capabilities from the blatant cheating in the six weeks “recounting” of the March vote to the use of wanton violence to turn over Tsvangirai’s 73%, according to Mugabe’s Freudian slip, to a massive 84% for Mugabe.

The 2008 Global Political Agreement (GPA) was a SADC initiative in which Zimbabwe was tasked to implement a raft of democratic reforms to ensure the vote rigging of 2008 would never be repeated ever again. The primary task of the 2008 to 2013 GNU was to implement the democratic reforms. Sadly, not even one reform was implemented.

SADC leaders wanted Zimbabwe’s 2013 elections to be postponed until the democratic reforms were implemented. “If you go into elections next month, you are going to lose; the elections are done!” SADC leaders warned Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends, according to Dr Ibbo Mandaza who attended the June 2013 SADC summit in Maputo.

Zanu PF refused to have the elections postponed and played their trump card. Patrick Chinamasa, Zanu PF Minister of Justice and Parliamentary Affairs in the GNU called a press conference to explain.

“As Zanu PF we are of course contesting the idea that there is any need for reforms whether its media reforms, whether it’s Posa, whether it’s Aippa, we are contesting and we made it clear in the summit that the MDCs are accustomed to making generalised calls for reforms,” said Chinamasa.

“In particular I made a point that in 2011, July 2011 they were making these generalised calls and I specifically asked them to make their proposals specific and to table them with the forum of negotiators but up to now since 2011, no specific proposals to Posa or Aippa or to any of the pieces of legislation they complain about have been tabled for our consideration.

“We can only implement that which we have agreed, we cannot implement disagreements, they are not implementable. We can only implement that which we have agreed. If we do not agree then there is nothing to implement, until we agree on a particular reform then there is nothing to reform. If there are disagreements then it is up to the political parties to take those issues to an election so that those disagreements are part of the election manifestos of the respective parties…”

Professor Jonathan Moyo attended the post SADC summit press conference hosted by Minister Chinamasa. Of course, Professor Moyo knew the full import of both SADC leaders concerns on holding elections without first implementing the reforms and of Chinamasa’s statement blaming MDC leaders for having failed to submit reform proposals.

What is really infuriating is that MDC leaders themselves knew Zanu PF was rigging the 2013 elections and the “obvious” thing to have done was to boycott the elections. They continued and participated regardless out of greed as David Coltart readily admitted in his book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the (2013) elections,” wrote Coltart.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

David Coltart was an MDC-N Minister in the 2008 to 2013 GNU.

The July 2013 Zimbabwe elections went ahead with no democratic reform in place and Loo Behold Zanu PF blatantly rigged the plebiscite just as SADC leaders had predicted. By participating in the flawed elections MDC leaders gave the process “credibility” and by extension gave the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy, as MDC leaders knew.

It is important to emphasise that once MDC leaders had ignored SADC leaders’ warning not to participate in the flawed elections, the regional leaders were powerless censure Zanu PF for rigging the elections.

In 2018 history repeated itself because nothing had change, not even a token reform was implemented since the rigged elections in 2013, and so Zanu PF once again blatantly rigged the elections. All the opposition parties participated giving the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy.

History is set to repeat itself yet again in 2023 because, again, not even one token reform has been implemented and with two years left it is too late to implement any. It is clear, Zanu PF will rig the elections.

Nelson Chamisa and his MDC A, Douglas Mwonzora and his MDC–T and all the other opposition politicians who participated in the last election will do so again giving the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy. Frankly, it would be hypocritical for any of them to boycott the elections to demand reforms because they did not do so in the past.

The SAPES Trust topic of discussion was “The Stampede Towards 2023 Elections: Is History about to Repeat itself in Zimbabwe?”

Of course, one would expect Professor Jonathan Moyo, a political academic and seasoned political practitioner, to know what the 2008 to 2013 GNU’s primary task was to implemented the raft of democratic reforms to stop the blatant vote rigging of 2008 being repeated ever again. Professor Moyo knows not even one reform saw the light of day, knows that Mugabe bribed the MDC leaders to forget about the reforms and, most important of all, he knows until we implement the reforms there will be no free, fair and credible elections. And knows that the opposition’s participation in these flawed elections is only giving legitimacy to vote rigging Zanu PF!

Yet Professor Jonathan Moyo has not only encouraged Nelson Chamisa and his MDC A to participate in the flawed 2018 elections and is he is doing so again for the 2023 elections knowing fully well this is foolish. It is no secret that Professor Moyo was Zanu PF’s chief strategist and propagandist and has played a major role in the establishment and retention of the de facto one-party dictatorship. And so one comes full circle to where we started and ask again; ‘If you want us to believe you are no longer working for Zanu PF then tell us why you want us to participate in rigged elections?”

Police Boss In Hot Soup Over Decision To Join Zanu PF Aligned Land Organisation

Headlands police officer-in-charge Norbert Ngandini is in the eye of a political storm after allegedly joining Zanu-PF-aligned Headlands Development Association (HDA), which deals with land issues.

The HDA is the brainchild of Headlands MP Christopher Chingosho (Zanu-PF) and was formed almost two weeks ago.

I think you can contact my bosses at district and provincial levels over the matter.

MDC Alliance Councillor In Road Maintanance Initiative In Chikanga, Dangamvura

By A Correspondent- MDC Alliance Councillor for ward 17, Chikanga Dangamvura Constituency and other party members yesterday maintained roads in their ward.

Unlike Zanu pf members who are highjacking government projects and trying to use them as their projects  ahead by elections which are coming soon, MDC Alliance Councillor and members are using their own resources, truck, diesel and other tools.

Speaking to ward 17 Councillor John Nyamhoka he said, “We are maintaining the road not because we are going for a by election any time soon but it is our duty as the residents.

“We used to do it since long back using our own resources with MDC Alliance members without being paid.”

Last week, Chikanga Dangamvura Constituency Zanu pf Candidate Esau Mupfumi who was rejected by the people during the 2018 election was seen taking a selfie in front of a Road department grader working in ward 17 and posted on social media platforms claiming that the project was his.

A week before, Mupfumi tried to hijack the Council program of free medication. He made noise on social media and said the project was his again.

In the last election, Mupfumi was heavily defeated by MDC Alliance’s Prosper Mutseyami. The electorate from the constituency rejected him for his known behaviour of donating things and taking them after elections.

He is also a known lier. He is on record lying that he put Wi-Fi for the Youths in the Constituency yet he put it at the office which he used when he was the Member of Parliament.

He also donated an ambulance at Dangamvura Clinic but took it after he was defeated.

Missing Chikanga Man Found Dead

By A Correspondent- As cases of murder continue to surge, another missing man from Chikanga was found dead in a waterlogged trench near St Mary’s Secondary School, Mutare.

The dead body of Ashley Muranda (29) who went missing on Sunday night was only found yesterday floating in a trench by pupils on their way from school.

Muranda’s mother, Preacher Chidende told Manica Post that her son was drunk when he was last seen at around 10 pm on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the police confirmed the incident and said investigations are in progress.

This comes barely a day after the body of a  Chitungwiza Central Hospital physiotherapist who went missing a fortnight ago was found in a well a stone throw away from his home.

The body of George Oposi, 38, was found in a decomposing state near his Nyatsime Phase 3 home after a thorough search by his relatives and Zengeza 4 friends, who intensified the search in groups on Sunday afternoon.

Police officers had to guard the place on Sunday night after a report was made.

His body was only retrieved by the police sub-aqua unit a day after his friends had reported having found a body in a well.

Oposi was reportedly last seen on May 5 at around 10 pm after watching a televised football match.

A medical kit with medical gloves, face masks, an empty beer bottle, and a loaf of bread were also retrieved from the well.

Cash, in both local and foreign currency, mobile phone, and identification particulars were also found on him.

‘ZANU PF Continues Politicizing Food Aid’

Politicisation of subsided mealie-meal and food aid by ruling Zanu-PF party officials during the COVID-19-induced lockdowns compounded hunger among vulnerable communities in most parts of the country, a Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) report has revealed.

ZPP alleged that the ruling Zanu-PF party was denying food handouts to opposition party supporters.

In its April 2021 report released yesterday, ZPP claimed that only Zanu-PF card-carrying members received food aid during the lockdown period.

“Some Zanu-PF leaders purchased all the subsidized mealie-meal and went on to sell it to Zanu-PF members only, thus depriving thousands of people desperately needing the staple food, but did not have Zanu-PF membership cards,” the report read.

“The partisan distribution of government food aid is a recurring problem in most rural areas which have been extensively reported on by various civil society organisations. It has left thousands of people food insecure when they desperately need food assistance during the difficult times of COVID-19,” the ZPP said.

Zanu-PF national spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo could not immediately comment on the allegations as he said he was in a meeting.

But the ruling party has in the past denied reports of politicising food aid.

The ZPP added that assessments by the World Food Programme, the Southern African Development Community and the Zimbabwe Vulnerable Assessment Committee confirmed that over eight million people, which is about 60% of the population faced hunger, starvation, and food insecurity.

“A study conducted by ZimStat in June 2020 showed that about 84% of people in the rural areas were unable to have a balanced diet due to lack of money to buy nutritious foods.”

The human rights watchdog stated that government had failed to provide adequate assistance to the vulnerable during the COVID-19 pandemic due to lack of funds.

“The broken and dysfunctional social service delivery system in the country cannot withstand the impacts of the pandemic due to several years of underfunding and neglect by government. Nonetheless, there is an opportunity to redress the ongoing crisis by ensuring that socio-economic rights are placed at the centre of the COVID-19 response and recovery plans.”

ZPP urged government to urgently release funds for disbursement to vulnerable and marginalized people.

“You Will Not Be Retrenched”: Gweru City Council Tells Workers

By A Correspondent- Gweru City Council has assured its restive workers that they will not be retrenched when the local authority implements its staff rationalisation exercise.

Mayor Josiah Makombe last week said that the downsizing exercise would happen naturally as those that retire or resign would not be replaced, including deceased employees.

Makombe said the job evaluation exercise was carried out six years ago, and would be implemented anytime soon as it was expected to reduce council’s wage bill.

“You would remember that in 2015, a job evaluation exercise was carried through the help of the German International Co-operation,” he said.

“As council, we are at an advanced stage in implementing this exercise. The job evaluation is aimed at cutting the workforce from the current 1 400 to 790.

“It should, however, be understood that although the evaluation would see us reducing the workforce by almost half, no worker is going to be retrenched.”

Makombe said downsizing would ensure that workers that were not in critical departments were not replaced when they left employment.

would save for service delivery. Over the years, council has been shelving plans to implement the job evaluation exercise after management and councillors said they needed more time to consider the merits and demerits of the exercise.

The local authority collects around $1,2 million every month in revenue, but employment costs gobble about $1,3 million monthly, leaving nothing for service delivery.
