Greatman Welcomes Son With New Song

Sungura/ afro fusion musician Greatman Tongai Gwaze says the birth of his son, Karran has given him a new approach to life and he will this week release a new song dedicated to him.

Greatman, who is married to Silibaziso Masara, welcomed their first child on Tuesday at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital, where he immediately named him Karran.

According to Seven Reflections, the name Karran means extremes in fortune, health and spirituality.

Greatman, who was accompanied by his family and friends were they were picking up Silibaziso and newly baby, was excited as he revealed in an interview that all his work as a musician would now be dedicated to his son.

“I now have someone to whom I will pass the baton, someone who will make me a better person. All the music that I will do will be for him now. I will release a single any day this week and it is titled “Padzinogumira”. This song, which I worked on with Dorcas Moyo, speaks of how God begins to work in our lives when we reach our limits as humans,” he said.

He said the name Karran was a unique Indian name that he had picked from some of his favourite Bollywood movies.

“It is a unique name for a special boy’”

Greatman said the birth of his son was proof that people living with disabilities can live their lives just as much as everyone else.

“A lot of people might not understand it —but this is a sign that I can do everything that an able bodied person can do. I used to doubt that I will ever have my own child but this has proven that God really can do what we cannot do. I want to encourage people with disability to believe that anything is possible. Just because God gave you disability doesn’t mean he will not bless you with positive gifts,” he said.

He said he hoped that one day he would work with his son to produce great music and leave a legacy.

Greatman also heaped praises on his wife.

“To my wife, I want to say you are a very strong woman, and you are one in a million. That is why the world didn’t understand it because you are unique,” he added.- The Herald

Government Moves To Close “Illegal” Car Sales

The government is investigating car sales that have inundated Harare with a view to establishing their legality.

Addressing the media in Harare on Tuesday, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Harare Metropolitan Province Oliver Chidawu said there is a need to restore order in the city. Chidawu said:

We have this city being turned, in fact, all roads are being turned into car sales. We have noticed in some areas like Lomagundi Road where there are a lot of car sales.

We do not know the process that has been followed. We are now emphasising that we want orderliness.

We want to ensure that we follow planning and if people are following planning, we have no problems with them, but what we have noticed is within that, some of our members of staff probably have been compromised in doing things which may not be above the law.

Chidawu also bemoaned the conversion of golf courses into residential stands, vowing that corrective measures will be taken. He said:

We want to correct that so it is really not about a witch-hunt at all, but it is about getting things done properly. We want order in Harare and as you are aware, we had instances where golf courses were sold.

MDC Alliance Calls Ziyambi To Order: Full Text

The MDC Alliance welcomes the recent ruling by a panel of three Judges of the High Court on the unlawfulness of the purported extension of former Chief Justice Malaba’s tenure as Head of the Judiciary.

We believe in the ideals of constitutionalism, the rule of law, separation of powers, judicial independence and good governance.

These values are not negotiable as they serve to deepen our democracy. It was important for the High Court to uphold them.

However, we are extremely concerned that the Executive in general and the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs in particular, saw it fit to issue an intemperate and contemptuous statement against the judges who presided over this important matter, civic society and the MDC Alliance.

We call upon the Minister to retract and apologize for his unfounded allegations and for scandalizing the court.

We further demand that he be held to account for his unethical and dangerous remarks that threaten the independence of the judiciary and the constitutional right to protection of the law.

We believe that the undue haste with which the Constitutional Amendment Bills were handled is an indication that they were intended to achieve a sinister objective that does not enhance our democracy.

Rather, the amendments undo the will of the people as expressed in a nationwide referendum and the painstaking work that led to the crafting of our Constitution.

Respect for the will of the people demands that any process of amendment must be consultative and inclusive as opposed to the unilateralism that has been exhibited by the Minister of Justice and the Executive.

It is our respectful view that the Constitutional Amendments are fraught with illegalities, which illegalities were pointed out by our MPs in Parliament and by a number of citizens during the public hearing process. The people’s right to be heard must be respected.

We reiterate that it is imperative for laws to be aligned to the Constitution as opposed to the unlawful attempts to change the supreme law, notwithstanding the overwhelming opposition to this process.

The Constitution is the Supreme Law of the land that binds everyone and in line with our People’s Agenda, we re-affirm the citizens’ collective obligation to defend it.

Mnangagwa Says Western Sanctions Don’t Stop Production

Mnangagwa on his tour – credits, Herald

BUSINESS and Zimbabwe at large should forget about baneful sanctions that were imposed by Western countries on the country and focus on local resources through value addition and increasing exports, President Mnangagwa said.
The President who is on a nationwide tour of the country’s manufacturing sector to gauge capacity utilisation, assess challenges faced and proffer solutions, was yesterday in Mutare where he toured Wattle, Mega Market and Willowton.

Building on the success of the Second Republic interventions, including the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Foreign Currency Auction System as well as the taming of inflation, two measures that have brought economic stability, the President said his administration stands ready to create an enabling environment where businesses thrive and also promote innovation as it is an essential ingredient to the country’s quest to become an upper middle-income economy by 2030.

“Forget about the illegal sanctions. Focus on the resources in our country. We can build our country brick by brick to prosperity. We also have friends in Africa and abroad. What we need is to be united and forge ahead. Sanctions have helped us to be ourselves,” he said.

The President also saluted the manufacturing sector which has weathered not only the sanctions storm but also climate vagaries and other economic shocks such as the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The fact that locally produced goods now constitute a larger share of our country’s supermarket shelves should encourage consumers to buy products made in Zimbabwe. The developments will have a positive impact on sustainable socio-economic growth, empowerment and employment creation as envisaged in the National Development Strategy 1,” he said.

President Mnangagwa said it was crucial for the manufacturing sector to exercise prudence and discipline so that their products remain affordable to the majority of consumers.

“Allow me to state that my Government is indeed alive to the challenges that are being faced by industry, including the companies we have visited today. I urge the private sector, throughout the country, to continue to proactively engage Government and it’s agencies in the spirit of dialogue, engagement and moving our country towards a more prosperous society,” he said.

The President was accompanied by Minister of Defence and War Veterans Hon Oppah Muchinguri, Minister of Information and Publicity and Broadcasting Services Senator Monica Mutsvangwa, Industry and Commerce Minister Sekei Nzenza among other senior Government officials.

President Mnangagwa said the visit to Wattle which specialises in timber processing, Willowton which focus on edible oil and Mega Factory which is into packaging and milling, was in line with the Second Republic’s culture of a listening Government.

“It is my hope that my delegation will gain insights towards development of a robust and responsive policies for the growth of the economy.

This collective approach further lays a sound foundation for the productive sectors to scale up production, productivity and capacity utilisation for the transformation as well as diversification of the country’s industrial sector,” he said.

Modernisation, industrialisation and economic growth, the President said, remain a top priority for the Second Republic and this can be achieved through value addition in both the timber and edible oil sub-sectors among the broader sectors of the economy.

“Two days ago (Monday), I hosted the Abrosetti Chief Executive Officers Community Africa Chapter at State House. The meeting was held under the theme, ‘the future of Zimbabwe and Africa post-Covid-19 scenario’, and presented a platform for the Abrosetti Chapter an exposure to investment opportunities in our country. In this context, it is my anticipation that various sectors of the economy and provinces will follow up on the networks created by Government through such forums,” he said.

Since coming to power in 2017, the President has deliberately pursued a re-engagement and engagement policy which is now bearing fruits while his mantra that “Zimbabwe is Open for Business” has resulted in investors from across the globe trooping in.

Apart from that, the President has made devolution a key priority and yesterday challenged the province of Manicaland to scale up its production levels towards the attainment of an empowered and prosperous upper middle income economy by 2030.

“Investment by Mega Market into various projects which support the Local Content Strategy and Import Substitution Policy are celebrated. These will equally contribute to the objectives of the devolution and economic fortunes of Manicaland Province through the creation of employment and empowerment opportunities.

“Plans to set up the stock feeds and pasta manufacturing plants are most welcome and attest to the fact that Zimbabwe is a safe and favourable investment destination,” he said.

Mega Markets managing director Mr Shiraan Ahmed Muhammad, whose company is into maize and wheat milling, tomato sauce production, kapenta, popcorn and sugar bean distribution, said the policies that have been implemented by the Second Republic are inspiring.

“We are honoured that you took time to be here with us today. It shows your commitment to the business community and also Mutare at large. From the time you became President the narrative changed from what business can do for Government to what Government can do for business,” he said.

Mr Mohammed also commended Government for stabilising the economy, and the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination programme saying the two interventions allow companies to focus on their core businesses.

Infrastructural development, industrial full capitalisation, innovation and technology, along with the mining and agriculture sector are key components of the country’s economic recovery plan.

Already, the positives are being felt as local products are occupying space in the supermarkets, jobs are being created, and the agriculture sector, the mainstay of the country’s economy is on a rebound thanks to programme such as Pfumvudza and also Command Agriculture. -Chronicle

About COVID-19 Vaccines

Countries around the world are rolling out COVID-19 vaccines, and a key topic of interest is their safety. Vaccine safety is one of WHO’s highest priorities, and we’re working closely with national authorities to develop and implement standards to ensure that COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective.

Ensuring safety

Millions of people have safely received COVID-19 vaccines. All of the approved COVID-19 vaccines have been carefully tested and continue to be monitored.

Like all vaccines, COVID-19 vaccines go through a rigorous, multi-stage testing process, including large clinical trials that involve tens of thousands of people. These trials are specifically designed to identify any safety concerns

An external panel of experts convened by WHO analyses the results from clinical trials and recommends whether and how the vaccines should be used. Officials in individual countries decide whether to approve the vaccines for national use and develop policies for how to use the vaccines based on WHO recommendations.

After a COVID-19 vaccine is introduced, WHO supports work with vaccine manufacturers, health officials in each country and other partners to monitor for any safety concerns on an ongoing basis.

New vaccine technology
Some COVID-19 vaccines have been developed with an approach that uses messenger RNA (mRNA). The mRNA vaccine technology has been studied for over a decade, including in the development of vaccines for Zika, rabies and influenza.

These mRNA vaccines have been rigorously assessed for safety, and clinical trials have shown that they provide a long-lasting immune response. mRNA vaccines are not live virus vaccines and do not interfere with human DNA. For more information on mRNA vaccines, see WHO’s explainer on the different types of COVID-19 vaccines.

Safety of COVID-19 vaccines for different groups

COVID-19 vaccines have been tested in large, randomized controlled trials that include people of a broad age range, both sexes, different ethnicities, and those with known medical conditions. The vaccines have shown a high level of efficacy across all populations. Vaccines have been found to be safe and effective in people with various underlying medical conditions that are associated with increased risk of severe disease. These include high blood pressure; diabetes; asthma; pulmonary, liver or kidney disease; and chronic infections that are stable and controlled.

Those who should consult with a doctor before vaccination include people with a compromised immune system, older people with severe frailty, people with a history of severe allergic reaction to vaccines, people living with HIV, and those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Pregnancy

While pregnancy brings a higher risk of severe COVID-19, at present, very little data is available to assess vaccine safety in pregnancy. However, people at high risk of exposure to the COVID-19 virus (such as health workers), or who have a history of underlying medical conditions that increase their risk of severe disease, may be vaccinated during pregnancy after consultation with their health care provider.

There is no evidence that suggests vaccination would cause harm during pregnancy.

Breastfeeding

The vaccine can be offered to those who are breastfeeding if they are part of a group recommended for vaccination (health workers, for example).

Safety of COVID-19 vaccines for children
COVID-19 vaccine trials for children are currently under way, and when results become available, WHO will provide updated guidance for vaccination in children. Vaccine trials targeting adults were prioritized because COVID-19 has proven to be a more serious and dangerous disease among older populations.

Following proven health measures is still the best way to keep everyone, including children, safe from COVID-19. This includes keeping hands clean, practising sneezing and coughing into bent elbows, opening windows, wearing a mask if age-appropriate, and continuing physical distancing…

Top Cop Dragged In Zanu PF Factional Fights

By A correspondent- The officer-In-Charge for Headlands police station, Norbert Ngandini is in the eye of a political storm after allegedly joining Zanu PF-aligned Headlands Development Association (HDA), which deals with land issues.

The HDA is the brainchild of Headlands MP Christopher Chingosho (Zanu PF) and was formed almost two weeks ago.

It recently torched a storm when it announced that oversized farms owned by party bigwigs in the constituency would be targeted for downsizing.

Sources who attended the recent HDA meeting expressed dismay that Ngandini, who is a police officer, had joined the association.

“We are not happy that the Headlands officer-in-charge was co-opted into a political organisation called Headlands Development Association run by Headlands MP Chingosho. It’s illegal for police officers to do so as they are not allowed to join political formations,” the source said.

“The officer-in-charge is a committee member, but we are told that he is feeling the pressure over the position.”

Ngandini, however, refuted the allegations saying they were mere rumours. He said he had since approached his police bosses to discuss the issue.

“These are just rumours, people are saying all sorts of things. I think you can contact my bosses at the district and provincial levels over the matter. I last met MP Chingosho a long time ago, and you can even ask him,” Ngandini said.

Chingosho yesterday said he could not comment on the issue as he was in a meeting.

But reports in Headlands revealed that Chingosho was at loggerheads with party bigwigs like former Agriculture minister Joseph Made and former Finance minister Patrick Chinamasa over land issues. Chinamasa is reportedly eyeing Chingosho’s Headlands constituency in the 2023 harmonised elections.

Chamisa said this in his new election campaign message this week where he exposed plans by Zanu-PF to steal the forthcoming elections.

MDC Alliance Delegation Blocked From Seeing Makomborero Haruvizishe

Tinashe Sambiri|A delegation of MDC Alliance Assembly Of Women members was on Monday barred from seeing jailed human rights activist Makomborero Haruvizishe.

In a statement the MDC Alliance Assembly Of Women Harare Province castigated the Zanu PF regime for suppressing the rights of those in prison:

Yesterday as the Harare Province Women’s Assembly Management we went to Harare Remand Prison to visit the national youth chairman Obey Sithole.

He was in high spirits despite his current incarceration and told us that in prison everyone hates Zanu PF because of its continued abuse of Zimbabwean citizens.

He encouraged us to find ways of aligning the laws so that there is a stipulated maximum period that one can spend in remand prison without his case being tried.

As there are currently prisoners who have been in remand for more than 8 years just because a judgement has been set aside. All prisoners deserve their day in court and proper legal representation as one is innocent until proven guilty.

We later went to Central prison to see leader Makomborero Haruzivishe but we were denied entry to see him which is a right that every prisoner has but the Mnangagwa government are further persecuting Mako while in prison.

Katsande Keen To Coach Warriors

Former Warriors skipper Willard ‘Salt and Vinegar’ Katsande has revealed his ambition to become the national team coach after retiring from playing.

The 34-year old tough-tackling Kaizer Chiefs midfielder was somewhat forced to retire from international football, allegedly by the Philip Chiyangwa-led ZIFA board after the AFCON finals in 2017.

Katsande however aspires to still contribute to the Warriors, but in a different role.

“I’m doing a couple of things, and at the same time I’m going to venture into coaching, but I want to be the Zimbabwe national team coach,” Katsande said on Vodacom’s interactive show on YouTube, Ringa Nathi.

“When I retired I told them ‘I am still going to come back to the national team but not as a player, but as a coach’ so, I’m going to chase my dream on that and maybe one day I am going to coach Chiefs. Obviously I’m very demanding on myself, but other than that I have a few businesses that I am trying and also studying but at the same time, time is not enough,” he added.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Mighty Warriors Clash With Eswatini Postponed

Mighty Warriors’ qualifying campaign for the 2022 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations has been postponed to October, CAF has confirmed.

The national women’s team was supposed to play Eswatini in the first round of the qualifiers next month and had already started the preparations.

In a letter sent to ZIFA and other member associations, CAF said the postponement was based on similar reasons that delayed the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June.

The qualifiers were put on hold because of the condition of several stadiums across the continent and travel restrictions related to COVID19.

“CAF’s Organising Committee of Women Football decided to postpone the qualifiers of the women Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2022 In line with the postponement of the Men World Cup Qualifiers,” CAF said.

“The reasons of the postponements were based on the actual conditions of certain stadiums in Africa and the restrictions related to COVID19.

“The 1st round will now take place in the FIFA window of 18 to 26 October, 2021 and the second round will take place in the FIFA window of 14 to 23 February, 2022.”

The postponement will help the Mighty Warriors adequately prepare for the game after spending several months without playing football due to the pandemic.

They missed a chance to play a friendly game against South Africa last month after facing logistical issues.

Maid Who Axed Employer And Fled To Mozambique Nabbed

By A Correspondent- A maid who allegedly murdered her employer,  robbed her and fled to Mozambique has been finally arrested, 3 years after committing the heinous crime.

23-year-old Tabeth Mashizha of Muzanenhamo Village Chief Chirau was nabbed by the police after she attended a prayer session held by an apostolic sect in Zvimba.

Vigilant police officers apprehended Mashizha who appeared before Chinhoyi provincial magistrate Tamari Chibindi facing murder charges.

During the court hearing, the prosecution laid out the state’s case against Tabeth Mashizha. The state alleged that Mashizha committed the crime together with her husband Stanford Mazibiye.

Mashizha and Mazibiye, who also uses the name Farai Sithole, were both employed at the Masabera homestead as domestic workers.

In August 2018, Mashizha and her husband plotted to steal from their employer. When they were left at the homestead alone with Netty Mangachaya the two decided to take their opportunity. Husband and wife armed themselves with an axe and a hammer and attacked Mangachaya with the weapons. The prosecution alleges that the two struck Mangachaya repeatedly using the axe and the hammer until she died.

With no one to hinder their plan, husband and wife then ransacked their employer’s house and made off with US$6 000 cash. The two fled to Mozambique, where Mazibiye’s parents have a home.

The officer who had investigated the original murder case, detective Sergeant Morris Mlilo testified that Mashizha should not be granted bail because she is a flight risk with well-established roots outside the country.

He also told the court that Mashizha is an experienced border jumper who was well versed with the illegal crossing points into Mozambique.

Magistrate Chibindi remanded Mashizha to 31 May. The magistrate also denied her bail and advised her to apply for bail at the High Court instead.

About COVID-19 Vaccines And Pregnancy

Jealous Wife Teams Up With Sister, Assault Hubby’s Small House

By A Correspondent- A jealous wife from Muriel Mine in Mashonaland West teamed up with her younger sister to assault her husband’s adulterous lover, colloquially known as a small house.

30-year-old Priscilla Femera received information from undisclosed sources that her husband was having an illicit affair with Precious Munyaradzi, 39.

This did not go down well with Femera who enlisted the help of her younger sister Anna Phiri to assault the alleged ‘homewrecker.’

The two sisters then agreed to go teach Munyaradzi a lesson at her place of residence. The two went to Munyaradzi’s home and Femera called her outside.

When Munyaradzi came out, Femera immediately attacked her and did not give her a chance to say or explain anything. The angry wife dragged Munyaradzi to the flower bed and furiously assaulted her. Phiri also joined in the fray as the two sisters assaulted their alleged love rival.

One of Munyaradzi’s neighbours, Godfrey Chapanda heard her screams of anguish and rushed to her aide, where he managed to restrain the two sisters.

Following the assault, Munyaradzi filed a police report. She also alleged that she had lost her iTel A16 mobile phone and US$65.

The two sisters appeared before Chinhoyi provincial magistrate Tapiwa Banda facing assault charges. They were found guilty and sentenced to 30 days in prison.

However, magistrate Banda spared them from going to prison after he gave them the option of paying a fine of $10,000 each.

Bogus Soldier Nabbed For Fleecing Potential Recruits

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) last week nabbed a bogus soldier, Munamati Mkuhuleki Nyathi (36), for duping potential recruits while masquerading as a recruiting agent.

He was arrested for defrauding potential recruits in Guruve where the ZNA was conducting a recruitment.

In a statement yesterday, ZNA director public relations Colonel Alphios Makotore said: “A bogus soldier Nyathi Mkuhuleki Munamati (36) was apprehended by members of the ZNA military police at Guruve Centre last week for defrauding potential recruits US$140.

“Nyathi was discharged from the force in 2020.”

Col Makotore said circumstances around the issue were that Nyathi approached the complainants Michael Gunje (23) and Tatenda Chitsiga both from Guruve and promised to facilitate their recruitment into the ZNA.

He then gave the complainants assurance that they would get the job, citing that he was going to be assisted by a General since he was well connected.

Col Makotore said Nyathi further took the complainants to Harare on the pretext that he was going to introduce them to the said General where he allegedly dumped them near Harare Central Prison along the road leading to Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks.

He said the matter came to light when the complainants made a report at the Harare District military police department, leading to the arrest of Nyathi.

Col Makotore said Nyathi was handed over to Guruve Police Station and appeared at Guruve Magistrate Courts last Saturday and remanded in custody.

He advised members of the public that the ZNA did not engage third parties in its recruitment processes.

“The ZNA would once again like to warn members of the public that it does not engage third parties on recruitment practices, neither charge a fee on applicants wishing to join the force,” said Col Makotore.

“Members of the public who are approached or come across these bogus soldiers should immediately report to the nearest police station or ZNA Military Police branches.”

Harare Businessman Reports Ken Sharpe To NPA Over Counter Move To Confuse Judiciary

BY A CORRESPONDENT| A prominent Harare businessman George Katsimberis has written to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) over criminal charges filed by controversial land baron Kenneth Raydon Sharpe against him in a bid to confuse and frustrate the justice process.

Katsimberis wants his fraud charge to be scrapped off the role to allow him to freely testify against Sharpe and his accomplices without the threat of being punished for it.

Through his lawyer, Tendai Biti, Katsimberis said charges against him were filed months after he had reported Sharpe and his accomplices who include the now suspended City of Harare Town Clerk Hosiah Abraham Chisango for malicious damage to property and perjury.

He is the key witness on the two charges and now has to juggle from one court room to the other in what he believes is a breach of his rights to protection by the law.

“We write to you at the instance of our client Mr George Katsimberis who is facing criminal charges with the above reference number in the regional court.

“Mr Katsimberis, trial, is supposed to commence on 15 April 2021. We confirm that we have made several complaints against the Regional Prosecutor. The complaints on behalf of our client have been the following;

“That in any event, our client is facing charges, in a matter in respect of which in the very same court he is the key State Witness in charges by the State against witnesses in his own criminal proceedings namely, Michael Van Blerk, Pokugara Properties and others,” said Biti.

“In view of the above it will clearly be unconstitutional and in breach of our right to equal protection and benefit of the law and our client’s right to fairness, if our client were to face criminal proceedings,” further reads Biti’s letter.

Katsimberis has previously raised the same complain with the Special Anti-Corruption Unit in the office of the President (SACU) who promised to look into the issue.

In its letter to the Prosecutor General, SACU said the first reported case should be completed which in this case would have seen fraud charges against Katsimberis being scrapped off.

“SACU, therefore by copy of this letter advises your esteemed office and all the concerned parties to take note and consider how best justice can be saved in this case. SACU is of the view that the case which was reported first must be completed without threatening a witness with criminal charges on the same facts.

“It should be noted that these two cases relates to the same approved plan for the same stand. It should be made clear as well that George Katsimberis was the first to report and Pokugara Properties and Michael John Van Blerk were the first to be charged and after that a witness and complainant George Katsimberis was charged for the same facts before he took his stand on the witness stand,” said SACU head Thabani Mpofu.

He further urged the Prosecutor General to deal with corruption cases in a coordinated manner to avoid putting a witness in a situation where he feels as if he is being punished for testifying against Sharpe.

“Corruption related cases should be handled in a well-co-ordinated manner and a witness who is about to stand to testify in a case should not be made to be put in a situation which appear like he is being charged or punished for testifying against certain individuals,” added Mpofu.

Professor Jonathan Moyo, Why Do You Want Us To Participate In Flawed Elections To Give Vote Rigging Zanu PF Legitimacy?

By Wilbert Mukori- “Some people have said to me, ‘If you want us to believe you are no longer working for Zanu PF then tell us how Zanu PF rigged the elections!’ They say that expecting some Mafia like, Movie like, ways that are used to rig the elections. No!” Professor Jonathan Moyo told his audience in a recent SAPES Trust panel discussion.

“The major, major thing with ZEC vote rigging is undercounting the opposition votes by having 14 or 15 ballots in a supposedly 10 ballot – lot; whilst overcounting Zanu PF votes by having 7 or 8 ballots in a 10 ballot -lot. ZEC will do the same with 10 lot – bundles.”

He went on explain the critical importance of having election agents, “each Polling Station should have at least four election agents”, he said.

Even if one had eagle-eyed election agents who saw to it that very candidate, Zanu PF or opposition, 10 ballot – lot had exactly 10 ballots, every bundle had exactly 10 lots, etc. Counting may be the “major, major thing” still it is not the only thing that can go wrong.

Even the eagle-eyed elections agents will not be able to check everything that all the ZEC officials especially since it is common knowledge that very often loyal Zanu PF officials and/or CIO double up as ZEC officials. The eagle-eyed election agent will not know that known Zanu PF supporters who are not on the voters’ roll are being allowed to vote whilst opposition supporters are being denied the vote under the pretext they are not on the voters roll when they are.

The 2008 elections were a watershed in that they revealed the wide spectrum of Zanu PF’s vote rigging capabilities from the blatant cheating in the six weeks “recounting” of the March vote to the use of wanton violence to turn over Tsvangirai’s 73%, according to Mugabe’s Freudian slip, to a massive 84% for Mugabe.

The 2008 Global Political Agreement (GPA) was a SADC initiative in which Zimbabwe was tasked to implement a raft of democratic reforms to ensure the vote rigging of 2008 would never be repeated ever again. The primary task of the 2008 to 2013 GNU was to implement the democratic reforms. Sadly, not even one reform was implemented.

SADC leaders wanted Zimbabwe’s 2013 elections to be postponed until the democratic reforms were implemented. “If you go into elections next month, you are going to lose; the elections are done!” SADC leaders warned Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends, according to Dr Ibbo Mandaza who attended the June 2013 SADC summit in Maputo.

Zanu PF refused to have the elections postponed and played their trump card. Patrick Chinamasa, Zanu PF Minister of Justice and Parliamentary Affairs in the GNU called a press conference to explain.

“As Zanu PF we are of course contesting the idea that there is any need for reforms whether its media reforms, whether it’s Posa, whether it’s Aippa, we are contesting and we made it clear in the summit that the MDCs are accustomed to making generalised calls for reforms,” said Chinamasa.

“In particular I made a point that in 2011, July 2011 they were making these generalised calls and I specifically asked them to make their proposals specific and to table them with the forum of negotiators but up to now since 2011, no specific proposals to Posa or Aippa or to any of the pieces of legislation they complain about have been tabled for our consideration.

“We can only implement that which we have agreed, we cannot implement disagreements, they are not implementable. We can only implement that which we have agreed. If we do not agree then there is nothing to implement, until we agree on a particular reform then there is nothing to reform. If there are disagreements then it is up to the political parties to take those issues to an election so that those disagreements are part of the election manifestos of the respective parties…”

Professor Jonathan Moyo attended the post SADC summit press conference hosted by Minister Chinamasa. Of course, Professor Moyo knew the full import of both SADC leaders concerns on holding elections without first implementing the reforms and of Chinamasa’s statement blaming MDC leaders for having failed to submit reform proposals.

What is really infuriating is that MDC leaders themselves knew Zanu PF was rigging the 2013 elections and the “obvious” thing to have done was to boycott the elections. They continued and participated regardless out of greed as David Coltart readily admitted in his book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the (2013) elections,” wrote Coltart.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

David Coltart was an MDC-N Minister in the 2008 to 2013 GNU.

The July 2013 Zimbabwe elections went ahead with no democratic reform in place and Loo Behold Zanu PF blatantly rigged the plebiscite just as SADC leaders had predicted. By participating in the flawed elections MDC leaders gave the process “credibility” and by extension gave the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy, as MDC leaders knew.

It is important to emphasise that once MDC leaders had ignored SADC leaders’ warning not to participate in the flawed elections, the regional leaders were powerless censure Zanu PF for rigging the elections.

In 2018 history repeated itself because nothing had change, not even a token reform was implemented since the rigged elections in 2013, and so Zanu PF once again blatantly rigged the elections. All the opposition parties participated giving the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy.

History is set to repeat itself yet again in 2023 because, again, not even one token reform has been implemented and with two years left it is too late to implement any. It is clear, Zanu PF will rig the elections.

Nelson Chamisa and his MDC A, Douglas Mwonzora and his MDC–T and all the other opposition politicians who participated in the last election will do so again giving the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy. Frankly, it would be hypocritical for any of them to boycott the elections to demand reforms because they did not do so in the past.

The SAPES Trust topic of discussion was “The Stampede Towards 2023 Elections: Is History about to Repeat itself in Zimbabwe?”

Of course, one would expect Professor Jonathan Moyo, a political academic and seasoned political practitioner, to know what the 2008 to 2013 GNU’s primary task was to implemented the raft of democratic reforms to stop the blatant vote rigging of 2008 being repeated ever again. Professor Moyo knows not even one reform saw the light of day, knows that Mugabe bribed the MDC leaders to forget about the reforms and, most important of all, he knows until we implement the reforms there will be no free, fair and credible elections. And knows that the opposition’s participation in these flawed elections is only giving legitimacy to vote rigging Zanu PF!

Yet Professor Jonathan Moyo has not only encouraged Nelson Chamisa and his MDC A to participate in the flawed 2018 elections and is he is doing so again for the 2023 elections knowing fully well this is foolish. It is no secret that Professor Moyo was Zanu PF’s chief strategist and propagandist and has played a major role in the establishment and retention of the de facto one-party dictatorship. And so one comes full circle to where we started and ask again; ‘If you want us to believe you are no longer working for Zanu PF then tell us why you want us to participate in rigged elections?”

Police Boss In Hot Soup Over Decision To Join Zanu PF Aligned Land Organisation

Headlands police officer-in-charge Norbert Ngandini is in the eye of a political storm after allegedly joining Zanu-PF-aligned Headlands Development Association (HDA), which deals with land issues.

The HDA is the brainchild of Headlands MP Christopher Chingosho (Zanu-PF) and was formed almost two weeks ago.

I think you can contact my bosses at district and provincial levels over the matter.

MDC Alliance Councillor In Road Maintanance Initiative In Chikanga, Dangamvura

By A Correspondent- MDC Alliance Councillor for ward 17, Chikanga Dangamvura Constituency and other party members yesterday maintained roads in their ward.

Unlike Zanu pf members who are highjacking government projects and trying to use them as their projects  ahead by elections which are coming soon, MDC Alliance Councillor and members are using their own resources, truck, diesel and other tools.

Speaking to ward 17 Councillor John Nyamhoka he said, “We are maintaining the road not because we are going for a by election any time soon but it is our duty as the residents.

“We used to do it since long back using our own resources with MDC Alliance members without being paid.”

Last week, Chikanga Dangamvura Constituency Zanu pf Candidate Esau Mupfumi who was rejected by the people during the 2018 election was seen taking a selfie in front of a Road department grader working in ward 17 and posted on social media platforms claiming that the project was his.

A week before, Mupfumi tried to hijack the Council program of free medication. He made noise on social media and said the project was his again.

In the last election, Mupfumi was heavily defeated by MDC Alliance’s Prosper Mutseyami. The electorate from the constituency rejected him for his known behaviour of donating things and taking them after elections.

He is also a known lier. He is on record lying that he put Wi-Fi for the Youths in the Constituency yet he put it at the office which he used when he was the Member of Parliament.

He also donated an ambulance at Dangamvura Clinic but took it after he was defeated.

Missing Chikanga Man Found Dead

By A Correspondent- As cases of murder continue to surge, another missing man from Chikanga was found dead in a waterlogged trench near St Mary’s Secondary School, Mutare.

The dead body of Ashley Muranda (29) who went missing on Sunday night was only found yesterday floating in a trench by pupils on their way from school.

Muranda’s mother, Preacher Chidende told Manica Post that her son was drunk when he was last seen at around 10 pm on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the police confirmed the incident and said investigations are in progress.

This comes barely a day after the body of a  Chitungwiza Central Hospital physiotherapist who went missing a fortnight ago was found in a well a stone throw away from his home.

The body of George Oposi, 38, was found in a decomposing state near his Nyatsime Phase 3 home after a thorough search by his relatives and Zengeza 4 friends, who intensified the search in groups on Sunday afternoon.

Police officers had to guard the place on Sunday night after a report was made.

His body was only retrieved by the police sub-aqua unit a day after his friends had reported having found a body in a well.

Oposi was reportedly last seen on May 5 at around 10 pm after watching a televised football match.

A medical kit with medical gloves, face masks, an empty beer bottle, and a loaf of bread were also retrieved from the well.

Cash, in both local and foreign currency, mobile phone, and identification particulars were also found on him.

‘ZANU PF Continues Politicizing Food Aid’

Politicisation of subsided mealie-meal and food aid by ruling Zanu-PF party officials during the COVID-19-induced lockdowns compounded hunger among vulnerable communities in most parts of the country, a Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) report has revealed.

ZPP alleged that the ruling Zanu-PF party was denying food handouts to opposition party supporters.

In its April 2021 report released yesterday, ZPP claimed that only Zanu-PF card-carrying members received food aid during the lockdown period.

“Some Zanu-PF leaders purchased all the subsidized mealie-meal and went on to sell it to Zanu-PF members only, thus depriving thousands of people desperately needing the staple food, but did not have Zanu-PF membership cards,” the report read.

“The partisan distribution of government food aid is a recurring problem in most rural areas which have been extensively reported on by various civil society organisations. It has left thousands of people food insecure when they desperately need food assistance during the difficult times of COVID-19,” the ZPP said.

Zanu-PF national spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo could not immediately comment on the allegations as he said he was in a meeting.

But the ruling party has in the past denied reports of politicising food aid.

The ZPP added that assessments by the World Food Programme, the Southern African Development Community and the Zimbabwe Vulnerable Assessment Committee confirmed that over eight million people, which is about 60% of the population faced hunger, starvation, and food insecurity.

“A study conducted by ZimStat in June 2020 showed that about 84% of people in the rural areas were unable to have a balanced diet due to lack of money to buy nutritious foods.”

The human rights watchdog stated that government had failed to provide adequate assistance to the vulnerable during the COVID-19 pandemic due to lack of funds.

“The broken and dysfunctional social service delivery system in the country cannot withstand the impacts of the pandemic due to several years of underfunding and neglect by government. Nonetheless, there is an opportunity to redress the ongoing crisis by ensuring that socio-economic rights are placed at the centre of the COVID-19 response and recovery plans.”

ZPP urged government to urgently release funds for disbursement to vulnerable and marginalized people.

“You Will Not Be Retrenched”: Gweru City Council Tells Workers

By A Correspondent- Gweru City Council has assured its restive workers that they will not be retrenched when the local authority implements its staff rationalisation exercise.

Mayor Josiah Makombe last week said that the downsizing exercise would happen naturally as those that retire or resign would not be replaced, including deceased employees.

Makombe said the job evaluation exercise was carried out six years ago, and would be implemented anytime soon as it was expected to reduce council’s wage bill.

“You would remember that in 2015, a job evaluation exercise was carried through the help of the German International Co-operation,” he said.

“As council, we are at an advanced stage in implementing this exercise. The job evaluation is aimed at cutting the workforce from the current 1 400 to 790.

“It should, however, be understood that although the evaluation would see us reducing the workforce by almost half, no worker is going to be retrenched.”

Makombe said downsizing would ensure that workers that were not in critical departments were not replaced when they left employment.

would save for service delivery. Over the years, council has been shelving plans to implement the job evaluation exercise after management and councillors said they needed more time to consider the merits and demerits of the exercise.

The local authority collects around $1,2 million every month in revenue, but employment costs gobble about $1,3 million monthly, leaving nothing for service delivery.

Govt Fires Warning Shots At Illegal Car Dealers

By A Correspondent- The government is investigating car sales that have inundated Harare with a view to establishing their legality.

“Zanu Pf Denied Food Handouts To Opposition During Covid-19 Induced Lockdown”: Zimbabwe Peace Project

“Listen When The Courts Speak”: ED

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa said that his government respected the decision on former Chief Justice Luke Malaba’s case made by the High Court on Saturday.

In a tweet on Tuesday night, Mnangagwa said the administration respects the independence of the country’s judiciary, hence, every citizen should respect court rulings. He wrote:

In Zimbabwe, the independence of our judiciary is vital to the survival of our democracy. When our courts speak, all Zimbabweans should listen.

The Government of Zimbabwe wholeheartedly respects the independence of our judiciary.

This comes after Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi had threatened unspecified action on the three judges who ruled against the extension of the former Chief Justice’s term of office by five years.

A few hours after the ruling was delivered on Saturday, Ziyambi accused the three High Court judges – Justices Happias Zhou, Jester Helena Charehwa and Edith Mushore of being captured by foreign forces.

Meanwhile, Ziyambi and Attorney-General Prince Machaya on Monday appealed the High Court ruling at the Supreme Court.

Factionalism Rocks Zanu PF Mashonaland West Structures

By A Correspondent- Factionalism has rocked Zanu PF Mashonaland West provincial structures with war veterans clashing with the newly elected party leadership.

War veterans led by Happison Muchechetere who was recently elected the Zanu PF Veterans of the Liberation Struggle League (ZVLSL) Mashonaland West provincial chairperson is clashing with Kindness Paradza the deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, and Zanu PF Makonde District Coordinating Committee chairman.

Muchechetere at the Zanu PF Zvimba North inter-district weekend meeting held at Kamwaza Hall in Raffingora publicly challenged Paradza.

The meeting came after violent clashes between ZANU PF factions at the party’s DCC meeting in Chinhoyi recently with reports suggesting that some of the involved youths were in Kindness Paradza’s camp.

Speaking at the weekend, Muchechetere warned:

What is happening in some areas like Makonde cannot be tolerated. We as war veterans will come to fix it. If we hear of any youth who continues committing offences we will not hesitate to deal with them, we won’t let them do as they please.

What we watch on social media pains us as war veterans, seeing youths, after being offered alcohol, dare point fingers at the chairman in public. A chairman of the party?

Some break bottles saying ‘we want to fight’. Do you know war? If you have an appetite for violence we can take you to Mozambique where there is real war so that you appreciate real war.

We implore youths to uphold the party ideology to respect elders, even the Bible and clergyman say ‘respect your father and mother so that your days on Earth are multiplied.

Violent clashes in Chinhoyi reportedly erupted after one youth officer confronted Paradza, pointed a finger accusing him of failing to lead the DCC.

Police in Chinhoyi last week arrested four Zanu PF activists Simbarashe Guvheya (40), Zivanai Busai (37), Ruth Chikukwa (40) and Mirriam Mudoti (42) popularly known as “Boko Haram”.

Simbarashe Guvheya and Zivanai Busai are said to be loyal to Paradza.

Police had to fire tear smoke to quell the riotous situation that unfolded at the ill-fated meeting of 45 Zanu PF DCC chairpersons from the Chinhoyi constituency.

The activists have since appeared in court for alleged involvement in intra-party violence and were released on a $10 000 bail each.

Robbers Target Pensioners

By A Correspondent- Public Service Commission (PSC) has warned pensioners of fraudsters who are targeting them, judging by the number of reported cases.

There have been several cases of fraud in recent months as criminals hack into pensioners’ bank accounts.

In a statement, the PSC urged pensioners to stay alert as far as their bank accounts are concerned to avoid falling prey to the fraudsters.

“The Public Service Commission advises its valued pensioners and those with pensioner relatives that there are mounting incidents of financial fraud targeting pensioner bank accounts. The commission urges all pensioners to stay alert where their bank accounts are concerned, to avoid falling prey to pension fraudsters,’’ read the statement.
PSC advised pensioners not to give out personal information to anyone asking online or over the phone and to ignore unexpected investment offers on their pensions.

“Never give out personal information to anyone asking online or over the phone, personal information such as personal identification number (PIN), ID number, date of birth, bank account number, next of kin, phone numbers and email address,’’ read the statement.

“Ignore unexpected investment offers on your pension unless you trust the source. If you are contacted for these details, rather go in person to the bank where the message claims to originate from.’’

Personal and financial information is used by criminals online. With stolen identity, a criminal may be able to access bank accounts or obtain credit/debit cards or loans in one’s name and potentially take all savings.
The PSC encouraged pensioners to notify financial institutions and the police if their particulars are stolen.

Last month, police arrested two suspects on allegations of fraudulently applying for a SIM replacement card belonging to another person before using it to dupe several people of cash.

Ramakhopa: Zim Govt Copies Britain, Starts Charging Foreigners Quarantine

Monica Mutsvangwa

At a time when Chinese citizens are allowed into the country without any checks since January last year, a situation that’s worsened COVID levels, after a year and 4 months, Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government has decided to charge its own returning citizens quarantine fees.

Yes you could charge all travelers, but Mnangagwa’s (dubbed Ramakhopa)’s administration could surely do better than forcing its own taxpayers while giving strangers smooth massage.

This is in line with the Statutory Instrument No 108 of 2021 in relation to the country’s ports of entry and exit, it was announced yesterday.

In a post-Cabinet briefing yesterday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa encouraged members of the public should to go to their nearest health facility to receive their Covid-19 vaccine.

She said this will help the country achieve the required herd immunity to control the spread of the disease.

“Cabinet wishes to advise that citizens returning to Zimbabwe will now be quarantined at their own expense. Furthermore, those travellers found to be positive for Covid-19 will be isolated at an isolation centre at their own expense,” she said.

“With regard to stepping up surveillance of the public transport system, the nation is informed that the Vehicle Inspectorate Department, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) are flushing out the unregistered vehicles.”

She said 7 012 vehicles have been impounded for failure to display number plates and illegal operations (mshikashika).

“Cabinet also wishes to inform the public that the Public Health (Covid-19 Prevention, Containment and (National Lockdown (No.2) Order, 2020 published in Statutory Instrument (SI) 200 of 2020 was amended on Friday 14 May 2021 and published in SI 119,” she said.

“The major highlight of the amendment is that it now defines persons entering Zimbabwe into three categories. These include returning citizens or residents of Zimbabwe; and nationals or ordinary residents of a Sadc country in transit through Zimbabwe to another Sadc country.”

Cabinet also heard that a Covd-19 patient from Kwekwe died on arrival at Kwekwe General Hospital on May 12, 2021.

“Contact tracing has detected positive cases in the family of the deceased, further there was a student who had arrived from India on the 29th of April 2021 and the student was PCR negative. Another test was conducted on the student after the death of the Covid-19 case and results were negative,” she said.

Minister Mutsvangwa said to date, 11 Covid-19 cases are linked to the case of the person that died in Kwekwe.

She advised the nation that Genomic sequencing tests are being done to determine if there was an import of the Covid-19 strain that is wreaking havoc in India.

Minister Mutsvangwa said the country remains on course to conduct a census within the prescribed timeframe for the 2023 elections.

“The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works is expected to conclude the boundary proclamations for Wards, Districts and Provinces in order to ensure that enumeration areas are correctly assigned. Thereafter, the Census Field Mapping Exercise can be finalised before actual enumeration proceeds,” she said.

“Census field mapping involves subdividing the whole country into smaller geographical units called enumeration areas with an average of 80 to 120 households.

Cabinet is pleased to report that 55 percent of the country has so far been successfully mapped, despite up to 10 months of programmed time having been lost to Covid-19 restrictions.”

For the first time in the history of Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe National Statistical Agency (ZimStat) will go paperless during census enumeration since the Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) technique will be employed during data collection.

Given that this is the first time Zimbabwe will use the paperless CAPI technique, more than one pilot census will be run to test the technology, with re-tests being conducted.

“This will last up to the first quarter of 2022. The actual population census will therefore start in April 2022, with the Census results expected in August 2022, paving way for the Constituencies Delimitation in October 2022 as 31 December 2022 is the last day allowed for delimitation,” she added…Herald/additional  analysis

Third Diarrhoea Outbreak Hits Bulawayo

BULAWAYO has recorded a third diarrhoea outbreak in 11 months with about 50 cases being reported in the high-density suburb of Emganwini.

Zanu PF Funding Thuggery While Economy Is Burning…

By Clifford Hlatywayo
MDC Alliance deputy spokesperson

Instead of mastering the art of running the country properly, ZANU pf has mastered the art of violence, hate, terrorism, abuse, and killing innocent people.

ZANU pf and its handlers delight in unleashing violence on the people they are supposed to serve.

Violence, murder, corruption among other delinquencies are the characteristics of this political outfit.

Instead of sponsoring developmental projects in the country, they sponsor criminal activities (killings, rapes, abductions, vote-rigging, creating bogus opposition outfits).

The party abuses state institutions to achieve its nefarious agenda.

Members of state security are abused on a daily basis. They are instructed to instigate violence on the ordinary citizens and members perceived to be MDC Alliance linked.

ZANU pf is one party that enjoys inflicting pain on people.

We need more than 72 hours to chronicle all the abuses that this cruel and clueless party has done on the citizens.

People were killed, abducted, illegally detained without trial, properties destroyed including houses, livelihoods destroyed, a lot injured with others permanently disabled, people displaced, marriages were destroyed, livestock forcefully taken, women and children were forced to spend nights on the cold kumaBase where people were beaten and raped.

ZANU pf has robbed the people of their future. It abuses state institutions to rig elections and in 2018 stole the people’s victory.

Recently, after the High Court Judges agreed to constitutionally terminate former Chief Justice Luke Malaba’s term of office, ZANU PF member Ziyambi Ziyambi masquerading as Minister of Justice issued a stern warning on Justice Happias Zhou who gave the judgment.

This shows the wickedness of this desperate regime.

The time has come for the people to come together and join hands to put a final nail and end dictatorship in Zimbabwe.

Let’s converge as citizens to win Zimbabwe for Change.

The People’s victory is coming soon.

The People’s President Advocate Nelson Chamisa is ready to lead the nation for the better.

Message Of Hope From Obey Sithole

All prisoners have rights

COVID-19 Vaccines: Ensuring Safety For Different Groups

MDC Alliance Blasts Ziyambi Ziyambi

Opposition MDC Alliance has said attempts by the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Ziyambi Ziyambi to drag the Nelson Chamisa-led party into the legal proceedings that resulted in the ouster of former Chief Justice Luke Malaba was an act of desperation.

The party remarks after Ziyambi had issued a statement attacking the “captured” judiciary and MDC Alliance, whose members he accused of “being paid monthly allowances for causing turmoil in this country and for being arrested.” Ziyambi had said:

The situation now in this country is that there is a risk of judicial capture where the Judiciary has been captured by certain elements both within and outside Zimbabwe who want to destabilise the second Republic.

We are also aware of certain members of the opposition, the MDC Alliance, who are being paid monthly allowances for causing turmoil in this country and for being arrested.

The time may now have come to expose all these malcontents and economic saboteurs who are not sleeping until they bring down the second Republic.

We are now going to poke the enemy in the eye and confront it….

I want to make it clear today that we do not accept the decision of the High Court. We have a serious situation of a Judiciary that has been captured by foreign forces in this Country.

We are going to exercise our right in terms of the law and file an appeal against this baseless and meaningless decision of the High Court.

In response, MDC Alliance echoed Alex Magaisa’s sentiments that the constitutional crisis that resulted in the ouster of Malaba was due to a lack of interest in doing the right thing by the Ministry led by Ziyambi. Said the party:

The attempt by Minister Ziyambi to rope the MDC Alliance into its web of illegalities is an act of desperation. The Constitution must be respected. The failure to do so lies squarely at the hands of the Executive which has created this Constitutional crisis. #SaveOurConstitution- Pindula News

Bulawayo Health Care System Collapses As Nurses Resign En Masse

By A Correspondent- More than 140 healthcare workers have resigned from Bulawayo’s central hospitals, due to a government’s reluctance to address their plight.

Most of these healthcare workers are said to be trekking to the UK which recently embarked on massive recruitment in the face of Covid-19.

A total of 52 registered general nurses and two doctors resigned at the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) this year.

The public institution has 659 nurses and 171 doctors to cater for all the hospitals within UBH.

Mpilo Central Hospital lost 77 nurses and seven doctors, a development which authorities say has crippled operations.

The 1 000-bed central hospital has 535 nurses and 196 doctors.

Both institutions serve patients from the southern region which includes Bulawayo, Midlands, Masvingo, Matabeleland North and South provinces.

International Award For Winky D

By A Correspondent- Zimdancehall musician Winky D has scooped another international award after winning the Best African/ Dancehall Entertainer at the 39th edition of the International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) held on Sunday in Jamaica.

The “Sekai” hitmaker was up against South African-based Zimbabwean Buffalo Souljah, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy of Ghana and Nigerian singer Patoranking. Early in January, Winky D won the Best Dancehall Artiste 2020 Award at the African Entertainment Awards United States of America (AEAUSA).

Commenting on his Facebook post, Winky D said: “Blessing MaGAFA, your votes have counted!! This accolade will not push me onto an ego trip, far from it. It makes me realise that l should always appreciate the simple details of life.

“There is no act without an audience, as such l am forever indebted to all the Gafas and Gafaresses who sacrifice their time and hard earned money to attend my shows. For me, it’s a compromised act without good instrumentalists, so allow me to take time to big up the Vigilance Band, and more importantly honour the late uniquely talented ‘Scara the Drummer’.

“Hearty appreciation also goes to those who believed in my music from the day when l started preaching the ordeal of the ghetto youths when it was still unfashionable to talk reality. I will admit the love we exchanged during live shows, l also can’t wait for a return to normalcy.”

The IRAWMA awards show was hosted by Jamaican artistes Gramps Morgan and D’Angel.

The event was staged virtually due to Covid-19, with performances from top acts in reggae and dancehall, as well as other international performers.

It is the second consecutive year that the event is being staged online due to the onset of Covid-19, forcing the organisers, Martin’s International, to cancel the usual glitz and glamour of the red carpet.
It was broadcast free on IRAWMA’s YouTube Channel, Irie FM, OnStage TV and PBC Jamaica with over 500 000 individuals across the globe watching the event.

Among the artistes who performed were Ziggy Marley, Beenie Man, Papa Michigan, Flourgan, Master KG of South Africa and Shatta Wale from Ghana.

Earlier, according to Ephraim Martin of Martin’s International, this year’s staging focused on heavy African influence.
He said many artists from the African continent got support from their respective countries.

“This is the first time that we are seeing such a huge show of African entertainers,” said Martin.

“Africans just went crazy this year. One of the reasons is that in South Africa and Zimbabwe, in particular, the major media really stepped it up and made a huge thing and encouraged their people to participate and represent their country, as if it’s a sport.”

According to the organiser, more than 100 000 individuals across the globe participated in the voting process, which started on March 23 and ended on April 20 and was tallied by an ‘‘independent and reputable accounting firm”.

Josef Bogdanovich, Ziggy Marley and Papa Michigan, received special awards which were not opened for public voting.
Bogdanovich got the award for Special Philanthropist, Marley for IRAWMA Hall of Fame/Lifetime Achievement for over forty years of contribution to reggae music, and Papa Michigan will receive the IRAWMA Award of Honour.
