Kadewere Is The Right Man To Lead Warriors Attack- Maroto

Former Dynamos striker Norman Maroto believes France-based Tino Kadewere has all it takes to lead the lead the Warriors attack provided he is given the much needed support.

Kadewere’s heroics for French Ligue side Le Havre earned him a mega move to Olympique Lyon, becoming the most expensive Zimbabwean footballer ever, and Maroto insists the former Harare City man should be the Warriors number 9.

“Some players make an instant impact while for some it takes a few more games to start firing. In Tino, we have our number 9 and if it’s about building a team for the future, we have to start building our hopes on him  and play him more. With the right support system, players do amazing stuff,” wrote Maroto on microblogging site Twitter.

Maroto’s comment comes at a time when some have criticized Kadewere for “failing for covert his form at club level to the gold and green Warriors strip.”-Soccer 24

Peter Muduhwa Finally Reports For Duty

Farai Dziva| Bulawayo giants Highlanders held a training session with a full squad for the first time on Monday, according to Chronicle.

Bosso had spent the first two weeks of their pre-season camp without several stars.

Peter Muduhwa was the last player to report for duty after missing the opening part of the camp due to “pressing family commitments”. Other late comers included Mbekezeli Sibanda, Adrian Silla, Brian Banda, Cleopas Kapupurika and Divine Mhindirira.

Assistant coaches Mandla Mpofu and Bekithemba Ndlovu, goalkeepers’ trainer Julius Ndlovu, as well as developmental coach Melusi Sibanda, who heads Bosso 90, have been taking charge of the team’s pre-season training as coach Mark Harrison waits for his work permit to be sorted.

Meanwhile, Highlanders are still assessing a couple of players on trials who include Mitchel Katsvairo, 36-year old Mkhokheli Dube, goalkeeper Chris Mverechena, Collin Mujuru from Harare City and Humphrey Ncube.

Woman Nearly Kills Hubby After Scalding Him With Cooking Oil

NATIONAL, BUSINESS, BREAKING

POLICE are keen to get to the bottom of a case where a Harare woman scalded her husband with cooking oil and left him battling for life.
Angela Nhekairo claims she scalded her husband Benson Nhekairo with cooking oil in a desperate bid to escape a beating.

However, holes are being poked into her story as witnesses come through and the police have since confirmed that investigations into the matter are well underway.

The case is being handled at Borrowdale Police Station under case number CR457/01/2020.

But as the police do their job Benson Nhekairo insists this is a case of attempted murder by a wife he labelled a pathological liar.

In an exclusive hospital bed side interview with H-Metro over the weekend an ailing Benson recalled the day he “almost died.”

“I was seated in the lounge when she poured the heated cooking oil on me. All this happened in full view of my 20 –year old daughter as well as maid,” he said.

“I am in pain and would want to rest while thanking God for saving my life but Angela’s lies cannot go unchallenged.

How does a woman who is being beaten get time to heat cooking oil for that long? She is on a mission to tarnish my image and that of the church.

“I am not an abusive husband and neither am I an elder at the church, ndingori mwana wesangano. I don’t know where the church is coming in…this a marital issue that is now being handled by our very able Zimbabwe Republic Police”
Benson, who has skin from his entire back and part of the face peeling off, claims his wife was out to take his life as part of an elaborate plan that she hatched in cahoots with a man she is allegedly having extra marital affair with.

“I am not a law expert but this is attempted murder. For 15-20 minutes she heated two litres of cooking oil before pouring it on me. It was planned. How cruel can a person be,” said Benson, struggling to contain his tears.

“I overheard my wife talking to her lover Farai Musiya… ,who she normally refers to as Baba Norm, planning to take our kids to Canada and decided to play it cool. On the fateful day I looked for my passport as well as those of the kids and could not find them in the drawer we always have them stored.

“I asked Angela about the whereabouts of the passports and she could not give a satisfactory answer. Instead of confronting her I went and sat in the lounge where the next thing I felt was a stinging heat that sent shivers down my spine.

“I have never felt such pain in my life. I took off my clothes in front of my daughter and maid, and yelled for help. We rubbed margarine and eggs on my skin in a desperate bid to reduce the pain.

As all this was happening Angela was on the phone with Cherly … and Farai Dhla… telling them that “it is done I have fixed him.”
“Clearly this thing was pre-meditated, she wanted to kill me but God is faithful, I am healing.

However, I am worried about the mental state of my daughter…she is traumatized because she watched all this unfolding,” said Nhekairo.-H-Metro

FULL TEXT: Musarara To Sue Matutu, Tsenengamu

Below is Musarara’s statement released on Tuesday, February 4:

1. On Monday 3rd February 2020, Godfrey Tsenengamu and Lewis Matutu held a press conference in Harare whereat they made allegations that I am a corrupt businessman who is engaging in unethical business practices. They said I am working with a clique of white people to divert maize meal to the black market and consequently that I am responsible for the current shortage of maize meal in the shops. It was suggested that I have abused the Government subsidy programme on maize meal.

2. The statement is false, malicious and defamatory.

3. I, as an individual or through my company, have not participated in the subsidy programme.

4. It is common cause that the country is presently experiencing a shortage of maize induced by drought. I am working, through Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe, on a private sector initiative to augment Government efforts in the importation of maize.

Contrary to the suggestion that I am responsible for the shortage of maize meal I am working to ensure that the current shortages are addressed must point out that the brands produced by my company are not available on the black market.

5. Given the irresponsible statements that have been issued which as I have said above are false, malicious and defamatory, I have instructed my legal practitioners to institute legal proceedings against the 2 gentlemen to vindicate my rights.

Zanu PF MP Assaults MDC Activist

BINDURA South legislator Remigious Matangira (Zanu PF) and his driver Tichaona Svinurai (32) are in soup after they allegedly assaulted an MDC activist.

They were remanded out of custody to February 11 for continuation of
trial.

The State alleges that on June 22 Matangira (66) and his driver came across Saymore Mashokoro (45), an MDC activist, who was walking with a friend Evamore Kakurira and insulted the activist.

Mashokoro advanced towards the two and Matangira grabbed him by the collar while stepping on his foot, and his driver slapped the activist once in the face before releasing him.

Zimbabwean economy re-dollarizing rapidly

By Victor Bhoroma| The recent public notice by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) on the payment of domestic taxes in foreign currency is nothing short of a tacit admission by the government that de-dollarization has failed. The affected domestic taxes include Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE), Value Added Tax (VAT), Corporate Tax, Capital Gains Tax (CGT) and Mining Royalties.

The notice adds to the promulgated Statutory Instrument (SI) 252A of 2018 which provides for the payment of Customs and Excise Duty for selected goods in foreign currencies other than the local Zimbabwean Dollar. The list of the selected goods is quite extensive and includes motor vehicles, leather products, cigarettes and a host of agricultural products among others.

The notice by ZIMRA came in the same week that the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) indexed minimum capital requirements for local banks in United States Dollars. It also follows the Supreme Court of Zimbabwe’s landmark ruling which declared that all debts incurred in United States dollars on or before 22 February 2019 are payable in the local currency at the rate of 1:1.

If the current Interbank rate is used, the ruling means that the taxman will now be paid less than US$261 million for tax arrears amounting to over US$4.5 billion as of December 2018. The ruling also means that the government will in effect pay about US$550 million for domestic debts that amounted to over US$9.5 billion in December 2018.

The court ruling clears any confusion that may arise with US Dollar debts that will be incurred in future and implicitly lays the foundation for efforts to re-dollarize the economy directly or indirectly via “Foreign Currency trading exemptions”.

Beyond the ZIMRA notice, the market was made to believe that SI 142 of 2019 which banned trading in foreign currency was the law. Under Section 2 of SI 142 of 2019, it is stated that the British pound, Euro, United States dollar, South African rand, Botswana pula and any other foreign currency whatsoever shall no longer be legal tender alongside the Zimbabwe dollar in any transactions in Zimbabwe. The section further says, accordingly, the Zimbabwe dollar shall, with effect from the 24th June, 2019, be the sole legal tender in Zimbabwe in all transactions.

However the ZIMRA notice means that producers can now freely trade either in local currency, foreign currencies or both provided they pay the government in the currency of trading. The notice further provides the account numbers for onward tax remittances, implying that tax payers will simply need to deposit what is due to the taxman without any questions being asked.

Soon after the promulgation of SI 142 of 2019, the government made exemptions to local petroleum marketing companies, chrome miners, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), embassies and multinational corporations operating locally to use foreign currencies for local transactions through their Foreign Currency Accounts (FCAs). The hospitality industry (Including fast food restaurants), the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) and mining sector later followed on the central bank exemptions list.

It is not the first time that foreign currency trading exemptions have been used in the local market. Back in September 2008, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) tacitly admitted to the damage caused by the hyperinflation (250 million percent in July 2008) by licensing various local producers in the market under the Foreign Currency Licensed Warehouses and Shops (FOLIWARS). The exemption initially applied to about 1000 shops but it later exempted almost all local manufacturers and telecommunications companies.

The market has accepted that the pharmaceutical producers and retailers can openly trade in foreign currency, just as much as it is done in Victoria Falls, Kariba, Bulawayo and Beitbridge. Sensing inflation inspired losses in using the Zimbabwean Dollar, the Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and the informal sector began re-dollarizing as far back as August 2019 when inflation eclipsed 289%. With the influence wielded by the informal sector in the Zimbabwean economy, it was only a matter of time. It can however be argued that the US Dollar never left the local market despite spirited efforts by the government to criminalize its use through various legislations.

It is evident that the local market (Including the government itself) has no trust in the Zimbabwean Dollar and the economy is justifiably re-dollarizing in the face of hyperinflation and low confidence in government policies. The prices that prevail in the local market are simply US Dollar prices that are simply converted to local unit using the parallel market rate in order to evade persecution by law enforcement agents, otherwise the market is partially dollarized. These Zim Dollar prices change constantly with the movements on the parallel market, piling more pressure to local producers to adopt a currency which brings stability and certainty.

The rushed introduction of the Zimbabwean Dollar in June 2019, before addressing key macroeconomic fundamentals and instituting governance reforms has been nothing short of a disaster for the Zimbabwean economy. Erosion of incomes for labour and commerce have been complemented by billions of losses in US Dollar for pension funds and the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE) market. The reality of stagflation has finally dawned on the government.

With inflation rate over 521%, economic contraction of over 6.5% in 2019 and unemployment rate of over 95%: Policy options are far and wide. Increasing money supply to boost economic growth will lead to spiraling inflation, income erosion and decline in aggregate demand while the partially implemented austerity reforms of 2019 meant decline in production in the absence of a stable currency.

Zimbabwe has walked the dollarization path before and the wave is now so powerful that government will find it difficult to ignore whilst it struggles to meet its mandate of providing public services to the citizens. The adoption of the US Dollar in 2009 left the central bank’s money printing machinery redundant but it stabilized the economy and tamed the scourge of hyperinflation (largely caused by excessive money printing to fund quasi-fiscal activities and budget deficits).

Dollarization allowed Zimbabwe to eliminate exchange rate risks, build real savings, boost lending rates, improve the investment climate, resume financial intermediation, reduce transaction costs in trade and retool production through accessing foreign lines of credit. The local currency has failed the above in less than 6 months.

The notice by ZIMRA may give the restive civil service a legitimate reason to ask for remuneration in foreign currency considering the tax collector also feels that payment of domestic taxes in a battered local currency does not equate to being paid in a stable foreign currency. Partial re-dollarization might be a soft admission strategy to allow the economy to gradually find its feet and avoid inevitable contraction in 2020. After all dollarization in 2008 was championed by the market with the government succumbing when it was inevitable.

In 2020, the market is leading the government as has been the case in countries that dollarized before Zimbabwe such as Cambodia, Venezuela, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, El Salvador, Chile and Georgia. Dollarization may also be an easier pill to swallow temporarily than implementing economic, social and political reforms that are critical in bringing sustainable economic development.

These reforms include guarantees to property rights (Including finalizing land tenure issues), rule of law, good governance and political stability, curbing corruption, cutting runaway government expenditure by simply spending below tax revenues and improving the business climate locally. Despite the tacit admission, the market hopes that the government has got a plan to significantly increase local production, tackle sovereign debt issues, unlock investment through improving investor confidence and build foreign currency reserves in the event that re-dollarization carries the day in 2020.

Government Hospital Suspends Mortuary Services

Chegutu District Hospital has suspended Mortuary services with immediate effect as the mortuary is undergoing renovations.

According to the publication, The mortuary has a capacity to carry 16 bodies but due to a fault, it was now taking 8 bodies only.

Furthermore, 6 bodies had been unclaimed for over 3 years meaning the mortuary could only take 2 bodies.

Chegutu DMO Dr Tonderai Nhende urged relatives to collect bodies as soon as they receive the news of their deaths.

Said Dr Nhende:
The hospital’s mortuary is undergoing renovations. As a result, we are not taking any body to the mortuary.

To that effect we would really appreciate it if we could collect the bodies of our loved ones as soon as we receive the news of their death since we do not have anywhere to keep the bodies. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.

According to the publication, patients were now forced to share wards with dead bodies due to the dysfunctional mortuary.-State media

Zanu Pf Youths Breathe Fire Over “Sinking Ship”, Are They Saying Mnangagwa Has Failed?

By A Correspondent- Zanu Pf youth leaders have accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa of failing to plug the corruption hole which was threatening the existence of the Zanu Pf led “sinking ship”.

The youths did not mince their words naming Mnangagwa’s advisor Kuda Tagwireyi as one of the forces behind the country’s economic demise.

Lewis Matutu and Godfrey Tsenengamu said corruption was behind the country’s economic woes adding that failure to plug the leakages had disastrous consequences for the country.

Said Matutu who trashed social media allegations that he was pushing a narrative of the West and its allies:

“I have not been bought by anyone… its all social media.. I am not pushing anyone’s agenda especially not the West…Like we said we are not representing anyone here we are representing ourselves and we decided that we have the right to say what we want.

What we say might be wrong but we choose to speak so we know that after we have spoken there are many things that might end up happening because what we are now doing will make many people angry.

They are going to be furious but we have no clue we do not know what their anger is going to cause or create out of this. We know that all of us are in a ship that is about to capsize we are looking to the one who is leading the ship to come and plug the hole which is bringing the water to our sinking ship…

But the problem is that those responsible are not able to stand up and plug the hole… Also because the majority of us are comfortable to think while we are sitting here because we have achieved so much in life that whatever conditions we have, we are ok.

But we have to remember that the decisions that we make today are crucial to our future… so we decided that whatever we do we have to think Zimbabwe first, our nation is a stake so we have come come to speak about the act of thefts and corruption that is tearing our future, our hopes. …”

New Twist To Marry Chiwenga’s Assault Case

By A Correspondent- Marry Chiwenga has accused her husband, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga of influencing their childminder to lay assault charges against her so that she is sent back to prison.

Marry was denied bail by a magistrate last Saturday but has gone to the High Court to push for her freedom.

In her bail application through her lawyers Nyambirai and Mtetwa, Mubaiwa denied that she assaulted her maid, Delight Munyoro.

Her lawyers said:

At the end of the day on January 27, 2020, the appellant (Mubaiwa) received reports from her older children that the younger children had shunned them. When she asked about their behaviour, they advised that Delight Munyoro, the woman who looks after them, had strongly warned them not to speak to their older siblings.

On January 28, 2020, when she went to collect the older children from school, she saw the complainant (Munyoro) sitting in a vehicle with the usual security details from the army and Central Intelligence Organisation.

She asked the complainant why she had instructed the younger children not to speak to their siblings and the complainant responded that applicant should be thankful that she was caring for the children as their father obviously cannot look after them. There was no physical contact as the complainant had armed personnel and was also sitting in the car.

Former Ghanaian President Speaks On Nullification Of Presidential Elections In Malawi

Statement by Dr Jerry Rawlings – Former President of Ghana

I have been following the elections case in Malawi.

Once again, this tiny Southern African country has proved to the whole world that it is governed by rule of law.

The Court has nullified last year’s Presidential elections.

You may argue with me that such similar nullification has occured before in Kenya. But I challenge that the Malawi case is unprecedented. There were bribery allegations.

The Judges stood for the truth and could not accept any money from any politician. We are told that a sum of about US$20 million was offered to the Judges but they refused and decided to uphold the rule of law.

If that same money was given to some Ghanaian Judges, they would sold the whole country, including selling Ghanaians abroad. But the Malawian Judges stood firm on the truth. I admire the Malawi Judiciary which stands for the truth. As Ghanaians, there is a lot we can learn from the Malawi experience.

Congratulations to the people of Malawi.

Fed Up Zanu Pf Youth Leaders In Scathing Attack Against “Captured” Politicians, Judiciary, Investigators And Journalists

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s adviser, Kudakwashe Tagwirei, is a name-dropping wealth accumulator who has amassed a fortune on the back of weak governance systems and buying the silence of politicians, investigators and journalists, the Zanu-PF Youth League said on Monday.

Tagwirei’s alleged corrupt business practices straddle fuel, mining, transport, retail, and construction, the youths said at a news conference curiously held at the Media Centre in Harare, and not the party headquarters.

“We are in a ship where some individuals are busy drilling holes for it to sink,” Youth League political commissar Godfrey Tsenengamu told the news conference called to name corrupt businesspeople.

“The reason we are doing this is to pile pressure on authorities to act,” added Lewis Matutu, the League’s deputy secretary, even as he warned that such was Tagwirei’s influence they might lose their positions in the party.

“We have prepared ourselves for this, whatever the consequences it doesn’t matter, the message has been sent. This has nothing to do with politics, it’s an issue of young people protecting their future.”

Matutu insisted that Mnangagwa was “definitely not captured” by Tagwirei, the local partner of Singapore commodities firm, Trafigura, through his Sakunda Holdings company.

Matutu also batted away suggestions that outing Tagwirei was an attack on Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, who recently admitted in an affidavit filed in ongoing divorce proceedings from his wife that Tagwirei gifted him a US$75,000 Mercedes Benz E350 for his personal use, and that he also received a US$120,000 Lexus LX 570 under the government’s opaque Command Agriculture programme bankrolled by Tagwirei’s Sakunda Holdings.

Describing Tagwirei as “the cause of our suffering and poverty”, Matutu said: “How is it that he is the supplier of fuel; he runs Command Agriculture… he’s everywhere? Even the money on the streets (parallel market) is his. How does an individual go to banks to withdraw US$500,000 cash, to do what?

“As far as we are concerned, the majority of our problems come from this person called Kuda Tagwirei. He’s the source of our problems. Our challenge is that he pretends to have someone’s protection… so, we have come here to shake the tree to see if someone will come to its rescue.”

Tagwirei, a recluse who shuns the media spotlight, is a “merciless man who doesn’t even have a heart,” Matutu charged.

“If you look at what’s happening in our country, the effort that’s being made by the government, and then you have a man taking advantage of that effort just to enrich himself, we have a problem,” Matutu said.

The youths also called out Grain Millers Association chairman Tafadzwa Musarara and Green Fuel boss Billy Rautenbach for alleged corruption in the maize meal supply chain and fuel blending respectively.

Said Matutu: “Musarara is there in the importation of maize, he’s there in the milling and he’s there in the selling of mealie-meal. But there comes the problem. There’s more maize meal on the black market than on supermarket shelves.

“The government is subsidising the price of mealie-meal, but you can’t get it from the shops. You tend to wonder what’s taking place. He can’t continue to accumulate wealth, while the population is suffering. Him and a clique of white people that he’s working with, I think they must just stop what they are doing.”

Tsenengamu said Rautenbach was enjoying a monopoly in blending petrol and ethanol, which the government has decreed to be mandatory.

“Why him alone?” asked Tsenengamu. “Why is Billy enjoying that monopoly, on top of that overpricing his ethanol to a point that fuel prices are unaffordable? Why are we creating opportunities for just one man to get rich at our expense? We have to ask if this is what our liberation war heroes died for; was it so that just a few people can eat on behalf of everyone else?”

The Zanu-PF youths have previously released a list of allegedly corrupt individuals, prompting Mnangagwa to establish a Zanu-PF committee to investigate.

Matutu said the committee had never met, and no action had been taken.

Tagwirei Corruption

Tsenengamu claimed a company linked to Tagwirei, which he did not name, had bought several mines across the country – including Jumbo Mine in Mazowe, Freda Rebecca Mine, Trojan Mine in Bindura and Shamva Mine.

“When he arrives there, he tells the shareholders that he is working with so and so, lying,” Tsenengamu said, before adding that Tagwirei typically claims to be fronting Mnangagwa or Chiwenga.

Tsenengamu said Tagwirei also had a company called PanJap, which was involved in importing government vehicles, but was now a conduit for importing vehicles for his car sales in Harare duty free.

“Let’s say there’s a government scheme to import vehicles, let’s say a 100 vehicles. He will import 40 cars for the government, and then 60 for himself. He’s working with a guy named Brighton,” Tsenengamu claimed.

Another of Tagwirei’s companies, Fossil Agro, is deeply involved in the government’s Command Agriculture, an opaque farmers’ support scheme in which a parliamentary committee says the government lost US$3 billion without trace.

“When the government said Command Agriculture will now be run through CBZ bank, Tagwirei followed and CBZ is now his. The government said fuel should no longer go through PUMA, but Trek… Trek is his,” Tsenengamu charged.

He claimed Tagwirei was also enjoying a monopoly in road construction through a company called Fossil Contracting where he was using Obey Chimuka as a “front”.

“He also has another company called Sotic International, which he is using to loot platinum. Let him come out and deny,” Tsenengamu continued.

“Then there’s another company called Landela, which is into pharmaceuticals and cooking oil. When hospitals run out of medicines, he’s the one who supplies.”

Tsenengamu also claimed Tagwirei was an active player on the foreign currency black market, where he is allegedly employing a Congolese woman named only as Danya.

He added: “Let him come out and deny, let him say we are lying and we will release all the V11s (evidence). Why we are saying this is not because we hate an individual, but imagine here is a guy who controls a pipeline that brings fuel into the country, and yet there’s no fuel in the country. He’s everywhere.

“Tagwirei is doing these things, and he’s getting this money from the RBZ. Why do they continue to give tenders to one person? We can’t be arresting small time forex dealers in the street, while leaving the RBZ vault open to Tagwirei.”

Tsenengamu said there was no correlation between the money spent by the government on Command Agriculture, and the output.

He added: “If you go to Tagwirei’s car sales, you will find top-of-the range vehicles he brought in through PanJap, under the guise of importing Command Agriculture vehicles. You will be shocked.

“This is happening because those in authority have allowed it. This is where we are also now asking leadership, to say you must choose whether you stand with Kuda, or stand with the people.”

Woes Mount For Former Minister Ignatius Chombo

By A Correspondent- Former Finance minister Ignatius Chombo’s medical aid has been cancelled by Health International, a company which provides health insurance for members in various southern African countries, because his name is on the list of local leaders placed on the sanctions list by the USA.

Chombo, who is facing a raft of corruption and abuse of office charges, has been fighting to travel to South Africa for medical treatment.

Chombo is on remand on various charges including conniving to corruptly transfer a Glen Lorne property, allocating residential stands at Whitecliff Farm and demanding and receiving a bribe from the land owner to help remove illegal settlers.

Chombo was last year allowed to travel by magistrate Elijah Singano.

He was one of the first G40 members to be arrested and brought to the courts following the 15 November military intervention which was said to be targeting criminals surrounding former President Robert Mugabe.

Although he has not yet been tried and convicted, ironically his former colleague Sarah Mahoka singled Chombo out as the only criminal.

In an interview with the Standard yesterday she said: “Even when they said they are targeting criminals around the President, I have not seen any criminal except Chombo, who is not yet tried and convicted. So all the tanks came out for one person? I was here at home; I have never stolen anything from government.”

ZCTU’s Mutasa Slates SADC Over Malawi Poll Endorsement

By Jane Mlambo| Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) President Peter Mutasa has condemned SADC for hurriedly endorsing the Malawi elections when there were glaring discrepancies that have forced the Constitutional Court to order a re-run.

Responding to SADC Executive Secretary Dr Stergomena Tax, Mutasa said SADC should be ashamed of itself over its actions.

“You must be ashamed of yourself. You hurriedly endorsed this fraud and said MEC followed the electoral laws and the Constitution. Now without apologising, you want to appear you side with citizens while you are the defender of dictators in the region,” said Mutasa.

Letter To Econet- But Why Take My Hard Earned Cash?

Writes Nigel Boss Pfumojena Tandi on facebook:

Dear Econet

I am deeply disgraced by your ecocash platform services. I did a transaction of $800 on the 17th of November 2019 and due to your system upgrade it could not be reversed immediately after several visits to your Sam Levy’s Village branch.

It was finally reported on the 27th of December 2019 and the person i sent money to had his account suspended and i was told to expect the reversal anytime after the holidays. Now 2 months down, I still haven’t received my funds and whenever i ask, I am told by your customer care that they can not review transactions dating back to November.

So as a client, i feel deeply hurt by your services which are deteriorating and my hard earned cash vanishing. I rate you 1 on a scale of 10 because you do not feel our pain and hurt financially.

Man Stabbed With Okapi Knife In Beerhall Brawl

By A Correspondent- A man from Bulawayo’s Mabuthweni suburb was stabbed to death with an Okapi knife while trying to intervene in a fight.

Donovan Dlamini (26) bled to death after he was allegedly attacked by Leeroy Lovejoy Mafu.

Mafu and Dlamini were part of a group of patrons who were drinking beer at Makalanga Beer Garden on Saturday night when a misunderstanding arose before it degenerated into a fight.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident, saying investigations were underway.

“I can confirm that Donovan Dlamini was stabbed to death with an okapi knife by the accused after a dispute. The victim was playing snooker at the beer garden with his friend during which they had a misunderstanding with the suspect over an undisclosed issue,” he said.

Ass Comm Nyathi said soon after the incident, Mafu fled only to be arrested a few hours later.

“A misunderstanding arose between the accused and other patrons whose details are yet to be verified and Dlamini intervened with the intention of stopping the fight,” said the police spokesperson.

He said Mafu immediately turned the heat on Dlamini, stabbing him once on the neck.

Sources said Dlamini sustained a deep cut and bled profusely before he collapsed and died on the spot.

“Other patrons tried to apprehend the suspect, but failed as he outpaced them and disappeared into the night. An ambulance was called but found the victim already dead,” said the source.

Asst Comm Nyathi urged members of the public to desist from violence.

“We urge members of the public to exercise self-restraint whenever there is misunderstanding. We encourage people to embrace the spirit of dialogue,” he said.

The Chronicle visited the beer garden on Sunday and sources said Dlamini was a known gangster who was in the habit of terrorising patrons whenever they bet at the snooker.

“Late last year, he struck someone with an axe on the head over an undisclosed issue. The matter was swept under the carpet since the victim was also a criminal on police’s wanted list,” said the source.

Another witness, who declined to be named for fear of victimisation, said he was with the deceased drinking beer before he was called by his friends to go and play snooker.

“We were busy drinking beer and chatting when one of his friends came and took him so that they could play snooker. A few minutes later, I was shocked to hear that he had been stabbed to death on the other side of the bar,” said the witness.

A family member who spoke on condition of anonymity said they were still shocked.

“This is brutality at its highest level. How can someone be killed in a brutal manner? The perpetrators should be dealt with in a harsh manner,” he said.

Tragedy As Man Fatally Assaults Teen Daughter For Having A Boyfriend

By A Correspondent- A 42 year old Silobela man has been sentenced to five years in prison for fatally assaulting his 15-year-old daughter using a fan belt accusing her of having a boyfriend.

Appearing yesterday before Bulawayo High Court judge, Justice Martin Makonese, sitting at the Gweru High Court Circuit, facing one count of murdering his daughter was Benjamin Mpanduki of Village Mabhena, Mpinda 3, Chief Malisa in Silobela.

Mpanduki pleaded not guilty to murder but to a lesser charge of culpable homicide.

Justice Makonese sentenced him to five years in prison.

He said for the murder of his daughter, Pamela Believer, Mpanduki was going to serve four years.

Justice Makonese said the other 12 months were brought from a sentence that was suspended when Mpanduki was handed a 24-month sentence for domestic violence in 2017.

“In 2017, the accused appeared before a magistrate and was handed a 24 month sentence for assaulting his wife. 12 months were suspended on condition of good behavior and the remainder was suspended on condition he performed 360 hours of community service. The accused was then arrested before he completed his community service and he committed another crime involving violence before five years elapsed meaning the court has brought in the 12 months. So, the accused is sentenced to five years,” said Justice Makonese.

The judge said parents should exercise restraint when they discipline their children.

He said after assaulting his daughter until she could no longer cry, Mpanduki went and slept in his tuck-shop instead of taking her to receive medical attention.

“It will be a miscarriage of justice if the accused got a non-custodial sentence. Children have rights too especially the right to life even if they have erred in the eyes of their parents,” said Justice Makonese.

Prosecutor Mr Mandla Ndlovu told the court that on July 11, 2017 and at about 9PM, the now-deceased was at home in the company of her mother, Loriate Mupasa and her two siblings.

He said Mpanduki arrived and indicated that he wanted to discipline her claiming that she was having an affair with a certain Pride Chando, a young man from the same village.

“It is said that on July 11 at around 9PM Pamela Believer Mpanduki was at home with her mother and siblings when her father Benjamin Mpanduki started accusing her of having an affair with a local boy. The father started assaulting Pamela all over the body with a grinding mill belt made of rubber several times all over her body,” said Mr Ndlovu.

He said Pamela’s mother tried in vain to restrain Mpanduki.

After the assault, the court heard that Ms Mupasa took her daughter to her bedroom hut whilst Mpanduki went and slept in their tuck shop.

“The following morning at about 6AM the mother went to check on her daughter only to find her dead. The matter was reported to the police who attended the scene and observed injuries on her body,” said Mr Ndlovu.

He said Mpanduki was arrested after being on the run for some time.

Man Rapes S_ex Worker, Robs Her At Knifepoint

By A Correspondent- A married Bulawayo man who allegedly tricked a pr0stitute into accompanying him to his purported younger brother’s house before allegedly rap_ing and robbing her of a cellphone at knifepoint has approached the High Court seeking bail pending trial.

Desire Siaponeka (29) of Thorngrove suburb allegedly rap_ed the complainant on January 19 at around 9.20PM near Kukura Kurerwa Garage in Thorngrove.

Siaponeka, through his lawyers Kwande Legal Practitioners, filed an application for bail pending trial at the Bulawayo High Court citing the State as a respondent.

In his bail statement, Siaponeka is denying the charge, arguing that the complainant is a hooker whom he met at a local night club looking for clients.

“I met the complainant at a local night club where she was touting for clients. We agreed to spend the whole night and she charged me US$10, which I paid and we then agreed that we would go to a friend’s place at the ZRP Ross Camp compound,” he said.

Siaponeka said on arrival at the Ross Camp Police Station compound, they found the gate closed during which he asked the complainant to refund him.

“When I demanded to be refunded my US$10, the complainant refused to give me the money and a dispute ensued. The complainant ran away and went to the police station where she fabricated the charges against me as a way of trying to fix me,” he said.

Siaponeka said there were no compelling reasons warranting his continued detention pending trial, arguing that he was innocent until proven guilty.

He said his release on bail will not prejudice the administration of justice. Siaponeka said although he is facing a serious charge, he had no intention of absconding trial.

“The circumstances under which the crime was allegedly committed make an inducement to abscond minimal. The complainant is a commercial se_x worker whose job is to make money at all cost and she is the sole witness in this matter,” said Siaponeka.

He offered to pay $200 bail and to report once every fortnight at Mzilikazi Police Station as part of the bail conditions.

Siaponeka also offered to reside at his given address and not interfere with State witnesses until the matter is finalised.

The investigating officer, Constable Sitshengisiwe Ndlovu, in her affidavit, is opposing bail, arguing that Siaponeka was likely to abscond if released on bail due to the gravity of the offences committed. The State is yet to respond to the application.

According to court papers, it was stated that January 19 at around 9.20PM, the complainant was at a local night club where she had an appointment with her boyfriend when she was approached by Siaponeka.

He asked how much she was charging for her services, and the complainant told him that it was $150 per night.

Siaponeka offered to pay US$10 and the two agreed to spend the night together. Siaponeka told the complainant that he was a police officer staying at the ZRP Ross Camp compound and they left the pub purportedly heading to his residence.

When they arrived near the main gate at the ZRP Ross Camp, Siaponeka told the complainant that police manning the entrance would not allow them to access the premises since he had no gate pass. He then led the complainant to another gate adjacent Zupco Depot.

However, when they arrived at the gate, Siaponeka shifted goal posts and asked the complainant to accompany him to his younger brother’s place in Thorngrove under the guise that he wanted to collect his laptop.

On their way, soon after reaching a bushy area, Siaponeka allegedly produced a knife and demanded a cellphone from the complainant. He then ordered the woman to lower her pair of jeans and she complied out of fear. Siaponeka allegedly ordered the complainant to bend before rap_ing her without protection. After committing the alleged offence, Siaponeka fled from the scene.

A report was made to the police leading the accused person’s arrest.

Cops Nabbed Over Stolen Cattle

By A Correspondent- Two Zimbabwe Republic Police officers have here been arraigned before Gutu resident magistrate Mr Victor Mahamadi for allegedly clearing seven stolen cattle.

Vincent Tinarwo, 32, and Rodrey Mukaro, 27, both stationed in Gutu, were recently arrested after they cleared the beasts allegedly stolen from Gutu Mission Hospital.

The two were charged with criminal abuse of office. They were admitted to $300 bail to February 7. Magistrate Mahamadi said the court would establish whether or not the two police details followed legal procedures for stock clearance.

Prosecutor Ratchel Murape told the court that on December 29, 2019 at around 3pm, Tinarwo, who was on duty at Gutu Police Station, received a call from one Kudzai Murima, a well-known cattle buyer who intended to clear his cattle from Mazongororo Village.

It is the State case that Tinarwo met the cattle buyer at Hwiru location in Gutu, where they allegedly connived to complete the livestock clearance book in the absence of the alleged seller Jonathan Mangoro.

On the day in question, three cattle were cleared and were transported to Masvingo for slaughter. Furthermore,on January 1, 2020 at around 2pm, the other police officer, Mukaro received a phone call from the same buyer indicating that he wanted his four more cattle from Mazongororo village to be cleared.

The two again met at Hwiru where they completed clearance book (ZRP 392) for the four cattle in absence of the alleged seller of the cattle Mangoro.

The two officers were both arrested after members of the public through investigations, got wind that Mangoro never sold any cattle to Murima and that cattle belonged to authorities at Gutu Mission.

“It’s Bad Governance That Has Reduced Zimbabwe To A Banana Republic”

By Wilbert Mukori- It is one thing for political leaders to attend church services but another for them to then use the church pulpit to spread their political propaganda! Sadly, this has now become the norm in Zimbabwe!

“The Bible commands us to pray and to give thanks in whatever circumstances we may find ourselves in. 1 Thessalonians 5 verse 17-18 Pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you,” President Mnangagwa preached to the congregation attending the Zimbabwe Indigenous International Council of Churches (ZIICC) National Day of Prayer at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.

“We must always commit all our national aspirations to the Almighty God; casting our burdens to him for surely he shall sustain us.”

There is no denying that Zimbabwe is facing the toughest times in the country’s history with unemployment a nauseating 90%, the country’s education and health services have all but collapsed, an economy in total meltdown, shortages of fuel, medicine and food, etc. 90% of our people now live in poverty with 34% of them living in abject poverty, according to a recent WB report.

The root cause of the country’s economic meltdown and political paralysis resulting the country’s failure to pull itself out of the mess is bad governance, a man-made problem. 40 years of gross mismanagement, rampant corruption and rank lawlessness has reduced the country to a banana republic in economic ruins.

The people of Zimbabwe have watched whilst Zanu PF destroyed the country’s economy these last 40 years, helpless to do anything to stop the destruction, because the party rigged the elections. When some people dared to protest the July 2018 rigged elections, President Mnangagwa ordered the soldiers to shoot to kill! The message he intended to send is crystal-clear, Zanu PF will not tolerate any dissent!

So the circumstance Zimbabweans find themselves in today is serious economic meltdown, abject poverty and political helplessness after 40 years of corrupt and tyrannical oppression. Those behind the corrupt and tyrannical oppression  are arguing that “The Bible commands us to pray and to give thanks in whatever circumstances we may find ourselves in.” They have even found verses in the Bible to support their position.

This is just propaganda nonsense of the highest order! When Moses pointed to the land beyond the River Jordan, the Promised Land, God did not command the Children of Israel to “pray and give thanks in whatever circumstance” they found themselves in. The Bible is replete with stories of the Israelites having to fight for every inch of the Promised Land.

After the Zimbabwe attained her independence in 1980 we have had to fight our own battles against an enemy within our midst – those seeking to rid roughshod over others denying them their freedoms and rights including the right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country and even the right to life!

The moral of the countless stories in the Bible, especially those in the Old Testament, is that the children of Israel, God’s Chosen People, had to fight for the Promised Land. It is therefore nonsense to suggest that we, in Zimbabwe, can have a just, peaceful and prosperous nation without having to fight the corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous thugs hell bend on turning the country into hell-on-earth.

President Mnangagwa is not the first character to quote the Bible out of context for his own sinister purposes.

“Then the devil took Him to the holy city and had Him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:

“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’”

Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

Matthew 4: 5 to 7.

“I have declared the Year 2020 as a year of productivity and trade. I, therefore, call upon the leadership of all churches in Zimbabwe to engage, teach and encourage their congregants to be hard working and productive. God has given us abundant natural resources throughout the country,” Mnangagwa argued.

“We must harness these natural endowments to improve the quality of life for our people.”

Indeed, Zimbabwe is a rich country endowed with fertile land and good wealth to produce food in great abundance and with vast mineral wealth and other resources. The only reason there is poverty, strive and despair in Zimbabwe is because of greed and misrule.

Zimbabwe is a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous thugs and 40 years of misrule have reduce the nation to banana republic with a few filthy rich tyrants and millions upon millions of filthy and political powerless paupers.

As long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state there will be no meaningful economic recovery. No amount of praying or hard work by the poor will revive the economy; it has not worked these last 40 years. The solution is to end the pariah state by demanding the holding of free, fair and credible elections and thus end the curse of rigged elections and bad governance.

Zimbabwe’s economic and political crisis is a man-made problem, a problem of bad governance, and well within you and me, ordinary mortals, to solve. To pray for God to stop Mnangagwa rigging elections is tantamount to putting God to the test because He does not do what man can do for himself!

China Tells Citizens To Suspend Travels to ‘Ready to Assist’ Zim

The Chinese government has urged its citizens visiting coronavirus hotspots like Wuhan in Hubei province to suspend travelling to Zimbabwe until the epidemic is contained.

Addressing the media at the Chinese Embassy in Harare yesterday, Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Guo Shaochun said China was making frantic efforts to ensure the virus did not spread to other countries.

“We have requested Chinese nationals coming to Zimbabwe to cooperate with quarantine measures at Zimbabwean ports of entry and issued four consular notices to provide recommendations for epidemic prevention,” said Mr Guo.

“We have called on the local Chinese communities and Chinese businesses and institutions to remind their members and employees who have returned to China for holiday, to raise the awareness of prevention.

“Those who have returned to the most affected regions in China, such as Hubei Province are advised to hold off coming back to Zimbabwe to reduce the risk of bringing the virus to Zimbabwe.

“Those who have returned to Zimbabwe from the worst hit areas in China are requested to undergo a self-quarantine of two weeks at home, not to go to public places, offices or any gatherings.”

China has placed Hubei province, the epidemic’s hotspot, on lockdown.

To date, 17 205 confirmed cases in Mainland China have been recorded and the death toll is at 361.

Outside China, 23 countries have recorded 146 cases, including one death.

Zimbabwe, through the Ministry of Health and Child Care, has already convened a joint Inter-Agency Coordination Committee for Health (IACCH) meeting or Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) taskforce.

Zanu Pf Youth Leader Breathes Fire Over State Media’s Divisive Tactics

By A Correspondent- Zanu Pf youth league chief whip Pupurai Togarepi has issued a warning against The Herald saying it should not publish articles aimed at dividing the ruling party’s youth league.

Togarepi tweeted:@HeraldZimbabwe should not attempt to drive a wedge in the Zanu-PF Youth League by extracting news from shadowy twitter groups.

I hope the paper will correct its dubious story without delay unless there are ulterior motives. Our position : No to corruption in all its manifestation.

The Herald today published an article that said Zanu PF Youth league distances itself from Lewis Matutu and Godfrey Tsenengamu who claim Kuda Tagwirei is a corrupt individual wrecking the economy.

It is still not clear if Togarepi is referring to this particular article since he did not specify the article the publication should correct.

Govt To Embark On National Crop Assessment

THE Government is set to embark on a national crop and livestock assessment programme as part of its strategy to explore ways of saving livestock and crops through evaluating their condition, water supply and prevalence of diseases.

This comes after erratic rains were recorded in various parts of the country between October last year and this month, especially in the southern provinces.  The assessment also comes after the 2018/19 drought that resulted in the death of livestock and wildlife due to a lack of pastures and water and destruction of crops due to moisture stress.

The southern region has over the past 12 months or so lost more than 30 000 head of cattle due to the effects of the drought with Matabeleland South being the worst affected with 17 000 deaths.

In an interview yesterday, the Deputy Minister for Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement Vangelis Peter Haritatos said the Government is worried about the effects of climate change.  This has resulted in erratic rainfall and cattle succumbing to drought and poor yields in the fields.

“Any time from now we will start the first round of national crop and livestock assessment. The underlying reason is that most field crops such as maize, soya beans, cotton, groundnuts and small grains would have been planted and the planting window closed for these crops. The purpose of this exercise is to enable the Government to establish which areas planted these different crops,” he said.

“Primarily, we want to establish the stages and condition of crops, assess disease prevalence and the overall prospects for the season including outcomes and benefits.”

Cde Haritatos said the programme seeks to provide early warning to decision makers on the possible outcome of season and identifying areas of intervention as they relate to saving the season’s crop and livestock and make recommendations.

“We want to identify areas that need to be addressed in future farming seasons and also address gaps in terms of crop and livestock production, and possibly come up with interventions for the livestock sector. Data collected will help us in our second round of crop and livestock assessment,” he said.

Cde Haritatos said the second round of crop and livestock assessment, which will be done between March and April, will effectively come up with yield and production estimates when crops would have matured at the end of the farming season.

He said dehydration due to water shortage as water sources continue to dry up earlier in most parts of the country because of drought, contributed immensely to the increase in the number of cattle deaths.

“Our Ministry is looking into urgently drilling boreholes at strategic places in order to solve the water problem caused by the current drought. It is important to note also that this programme will have a double benefit as it will also stop cattle from straying into neighbouring countries such as Botswana in search of water,” he said.

Cde Haritatos said the Department of Veterinary Services has already vaccinated cattle in drought stricken and low-risk foot and mouth disease (FMD) areas so that they can move to other areas for relief grazing.

“We would also like to highlight that livestock can be a lucrative business if managed correctly. In times of drought we encourage our farmers, through our extension officers, to destock slightly in order to be able to generate funds to buy stock feed so that the remaining livestock remain healthy and productive.

SADC Malawi Election Monitors vs Malawi Constitutional Court Judges

SADC PRELIMINARILY REPORT ON MALAWI ELECTIONS:

“In conclusion, the SADC Electoral Observation Mission observed that the pre-election and voting phases of the 2019 Tripartite Elections were conducted in a generally peaceful atmosphere. The Malawi Electoral Commission conducted itself professionally through its improved administrative procedures, and in line with the electoral law and Constitution of the Republic of Malawi…..

CONCOURT JUDGEMENT:

‘On the balance of probabilities, we nullify the elections. Even if the higher standard was applicable, it will be same conclusion. Dr Mutarika was not duly elected on 21st may, 2019. Elections to be held soon as we shall guide.
MEC ( Malawi Election Commission) failed to follow the law as it demonstrated incompetence….. PAC (Parliament ) should inquire into the competence of the Commissioner’s of MEC.’

FULL TEXT- “REDRESS THESE ELECTORAL ISSUES”: ZESN TELLS ZEC

This Factsheet is based on a summary of concerns and recommendations by several International, regional and local election observation missions who observed the 2018 Harmonised elections in Zimbabwe.

The electoral concerns and recommendations are captured under the theme ‘Electoral Framework’ in the 2018 Compendium of Election Observers Recommendations and the ZESN 2018 Harmonised Elections Report.

This is a general comment on ZEC’s mandate of voter’ registration under section 239 of the 2013 Constitution of Zimbabwe.

In essence, this Factsheet aims at highlighting several concerns that need redress in a bid to improve the general procedural and substantive issues in Zimbabwe’s electoral cycle.

Key Recommendations:

Time frame to avail the Voters Roll Access to the final voters’ roll must be improved and guaranteed for all contestants as provided by law, and within a specific time-frame.

ZEC should avail the voters roll to stakeholders in time to enhance transparency. In this vein, the Electoral Law should be amended to include specific timelines when the voters’ roll ought to be made available to stakeholders.

Further, the law must establish clear timelines for the production and distribution of the preliminary and final voter rolls, which provide meaningful opportunities for a serious audit of the quality of the voters list which should be made available prior to the nominations process.

Notification process

The electoral law must compel ZEC to inform registrants who are removed from the voters’ roll. Those put on the exclusion list must be notified, and there must be a less cumbersome process for redress.

Availing a clean and updated Voters Roll Copies of the roll must be availed to party agents at polling stations, and ZEC must invest in the procurement of integrated systems that allow one gadget to be used for multiple purposes, such as enrolling voters, voter verification on Election Day and transmission of results.

The law must provide for the publication of the de-duplication process to enhance transparency.

Independent Audit

In order to build public confidence, the ZEC should commission independent external audits to assess the quality of the voters’ roll. These must be done at key times prior to voting.

Address System

In order to ensure universal and equal suffrage as well as the right to vote, there is a need to review procedures for the identification of voter addresses (lessening the over-use of pre-commissioned affidavits), to ensure the correct allocation of polling station / ward / constituency for each voter, and to ensure a consistent format for the capturing and registering of voter addresses.

Data Publication

The preliminary (provisional) and final voters roll should be made available to contestants and other relevant stakeholders electronically and in a form that allows the data to be analysed/sorted easily and enables an audit/verification of the accuracy of the roll.

Location on Inspection centres and under-registered groups

The ZEC should enhance citizen access to the voters roll inspection process through more localized inspection centres or by placing lists of registered voters at specific polling stations.

There should be more permanent registration centres established in urban areas in view of the lowest registration statistics in Harare and Bulawayo in particular; and these should be open throughout the electoral cycle.

Conclusion

ZEC is mandated by section 239 of the constitution to facilitate voter registration, as such, ZEC has a duty to adopt a voter registration process that is transparent and accessible to the public and many other stakeholders to encourage inclusive participation in the process and promote legitimate democratic outcomes.

The Zimbabwean voter registration system has undergone various changes scientifically with the adoption of the BVR system, and progressively, can lead to more democratic outcomes if proposed changes and improvements are made.

In addition, ZEC must improve by adopting regional best practices and norms from the international system must be incorporated in the Voter Registration framework for purposes of enhancing democratic processes and outcomes which are legitimate and credible.

Olinda-Tytan Marriage Officially De-registered

Following their messy divorce last year, Olinda Chapel has officially called off her union with musician, Tytan Skhokho, real name, Njabulo Nkomo accusing her estranged husband of being an opportunist.

The 34-year-old mother of three has filed summons against Nkomo telling the High Court that she was too blinded to notice that he only married her in a bid to get British citizenship.

Titan walked out on Olinda a few months after their wedding after the couple was blessed with a baby girl.

This was after Nkomo’s wooing escapades with another woman, alleged to be Olinda’s friend, emerged.

Olinda complained that she was used as a conduit and as such, the marriage should be cancelled.

“At the time that the marriage was entered into, defendant (Nkomo) intended it to be a marriage of convenience and a conduit for the sole purpose of the acquisition of immigration papers entitling defendant to remain and reside permanently in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and by virtue of plaintiff (Olinda’s) permanent immigration status in that country,” read part of the summons.

“The plaintiff seeks an annulment of the marriage between the parties which is a nullity more particularly in that at the time that the parties entered into the marriage and exchanged vows, no valid marital union was created as plaintiff was not aware that defendant was entering into the marriage exclusively for the purpose of his acquisition of immigration papers entitling defendant to remain in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and by virtue of plaintiff’s permanent immigration status,” Olinda’s lawyers AB & David further submitted.

The summons were filed on January 31 2020.

Olinda and Nkomo got married in Harare on June 29 2018 and the marriage still subsists.

Their union has been criticised as fake by some Zimbabweans after the two jumped into marriage soon after Olinda had come out of a messy marriage and split with musician Desmond Stunner Chideme.

In her summons, Olinda supported the claim saying, “there were no valid marital union as there was no meeting of the minds at the time the parties entered into the marriage.”

She said she believed Nkomo really loved her.

The United Kingdom-based socialite said it will be equitable if she be granted custody of the couple’s minor child while Nkomo gets reasonable access.

She also wants Nkomo to pay maintenance for their little girl until she reaches the age of majority.

“It is just equitable that each party keeps the property that is in his or her exclusive possession,” she asked the court.

The parties have not lived together since July 31, 2019.

The case is yet to be set down for hearing.

“Coup Imminent”: Jonathan Moyo Insists

By A Correspondent- Self-exiled former Zanu-PF minister Professor Jonathan Moyo has defiantly stood by his stance that President Emmerson Mnangagwa will be ousted by a coup this month, and took a scathing attack on critics who dismiss his insinuations as mere ‘prophecy’.

Responding to an internet user who had tweeted that, ‘February was prophesied’ by him, the former Higher and Tertiary Education minister retorted:

“Don’t bastardise political analysis. There’s no prophecy in political science!”

Previously considered the spin-doctor of Zanu-PF politics, Moyo recently asserted that, this time around a coup will not occur in November but this February. The late long-ruling Zimbabwe’s former President Robert Mugabe was dramatically ousted by a military coup that propelled Mnangagwa to the presidency in November 2017.

Following Mugabe’s ouster, Moyo and a host of other Zanu-PF heavyweights aligned to the extinguished G40 cabal purportedly fronted by Mugabe’s wife Grace, fled the country. Moyo has been vaguely saying that Zimbabwe will be plunged into something unthinkable this month.

“For keen students of Zimbabwean history, this February is threatening to replace November as the month of momentous events! Varakashi and their boss need running shoes. Their time to run run run run is coming; soon and very soon! The ideology of varakashi is Mnangagwa; and their policies are Mnangagwa, whose only objective is that 2030 anenge achipo. The varakashi phenomenon is just a whole lot of bull expletive”, said Moyo in comments posted on his Twitter handle.”

Angry Employee Splashes Beer On Presidential Aspirant In A Labour Dispute

Presidential aspirant in the 2018 harmonised elections, Bryn Mteki, has claimed that he received death threats from one of his employees after he lodged a police complaint over the way they were mishandling his business affairs.

Mteki, who recently rejoined the ruling Zanu-PF party, took Kelvin Tapera, Belinda Toro, Charles Mutusva, Oline Musuwo and Cleopas Madzemwa (who is Toro’s husband) to the Harare provincial magistrates’ court where the employees denied ever threatening Mteki and another complainant, Tonderai Nyagunzu.

Prosecutor Ms Linda Gadzikwa said on January 24 at around 3:30pm, the five went to Mteki’s BrynBands offices in Harare, intending to serve him with papers prepared by their lawyer detailing their grievances against him. Mteki is said to have refused to entertain them.

Allegations are that Tapera then started shouting at Nyagunzu before Toro allegedly threatened him by saying “unofira mahara. Ndiwe wakatisungisa uye tichapedzerana (You are going to die. You caused our arrest and we will deal with you).”

The court heard all the five charged towards Nyagunzu, forcing him to close his screen door. It is said after hearing the noise, Mteki came out of his shop to see what was taking place. One of the five is alleged to have poured beer on Mteki in a fit of anger.

Madzemwa is said to have shouted at Mteki saying: “Ndiwe munhu watiri kuda, wakacreator macharges kuti vanhu vasungwe and uri kuseenzesa Tonderai mahara, mese muchafira mahara (You are the person we want to deal with. You caused our arrest on false charges).”

Through their actions, the five were said to be in violation of their bail conditions as they had other pending cases against Mteki before the same court.

They are expected to be back in court on February 18 for trial.

ZANU PF MP In Trouble For Assaulting MDC Activist

BINDURA South legislator Remigious Matangira (Zanu-PF) and his driver Tichaona Svinurai (32) are in soup after they allegedly assaulted an MDC activist.

The matter came to light at Bindura Magistrates’ Courts where the duo appeared before the provincial magistrate Tinashe Ndokera on Thursday last week.

They were remanded out of custody to February 11 for continuation of trial.

He sustained a swollen foot and face. Mashokoro filed a police report resulting in the arrest of the suspects.

Clement Kuwanda prosecuted.

“Will This Trial Ever Commence In This Lifetime,” Mphoko Trial Magistrate Screams

Phelekezela Mphoko

A Harare magistrate has expressed disquiet over “delay tactics” being employed by the defence team of former Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko, who is facing charges of criminal abuse of office.

The trial was supposed to start on Thursday last week, but his lawyer Mr Zibusiso Ncube sought a postponement to enable a new advocate to handle the case.

This was the fifth time the matter was deferred at the instigation of the defence, which cited various reasons each time the matter was brought to court for trial.

The postponement did not go down well with both the trial magistrate Mr Hoseah Mujaya and the prosecution which accused the defence of playing games with the court.

Mphoko, who all along was being represented by Advocate Tawanda Zhuwarara, advised the court that he had sought the services of Advocate Thembinkosi Magwaliba.

In this regard, he requested for a postponement to February 13 to allow Adv Magwaliba to familiarise himself with the case and prepare the defence.

Mr Mujaya asked: “Will this trial ever commence in this lifetime. We cannot continue postponing this matter. All we seem to do is gather here and look at each other and leave the court. We need progress.

“It is not only about the interest of your client, the interest of justice requires to be protected. I am worried about these several postponements.”

Mr Mujaya then requested that the trial commences on February 1, which was a Saturday last week.

“I am against the date you proposed,” he said. “Court is willing to have the matter start on February 1 and inconvenience myself and everyone else so that we put a start to the matter. Courts are allowed to express displeasure and demand some sort of progress.”

In response, Mr Ncube rejected the date proposed by the court, saying they were members of the Seventh Day Adventist church, hence they did not work on a Saturday.

He said he could not compromise on the Sabbath.

Representing the prosecution, Mr Lovert Masuku and Mr Andrew Kumire said they were ready to proceed to trial.

Mr Masuku said: “Your Worship, the record speaks for itself. The defence has been making several applications for postponements. We are opposed to their application. They promised to serve us with the defence outline on January 24, but up to now they have not served us.”

After several arguments and submissions, the State and the defence reached a consensus and agreed that the matter be remanded to February 13 for trial.

Mr Mujaya then remanded Mphoko to the agreed date.

Mphoko allegedly instructed junior officers at Avondale Police Station in Harare to release from detention cells, former Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) acting chief executive Moses Juma, who was facing abuse of office charges.

Doctors And Nurses Tell It All To Parly, Hospitals Are Just Walls With Nothing Inside

Government, doctors and nurses have agreed on the urgent need to equip and stock public hospitals to provide efficient services.

This came out when Health and Child Care Minister Dr Obadiah Moyo, Deputy Minister John Mangwiro, Zimbabwe Nurses Association (ZiNA) and the Senior Health Doctors’ Association (SHDA) leadership appeared before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Health.

The committee, chaired by Dr Ruth Labode, will today tour Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals and Sally Mugabe Central Hospital (formerly Harare Central Hospital) to assess the situation.

The doctors, who were represented by SHDA president Dr Shingai Nyaguse, Dr Aaron Musara and Dr Bothwell Mbuvayesango expressed concern over the deterioration in standards at major hospitals and the welfare of doctors and nurses.

Nurses were represented by Zimbbwe Nurses Association (ZINA) secretary-general Mr Enoch Dongo.

Dr Moyo said the Government was aware of the plight of its workers and responded by awarding a salary increment.

“We require US$500 million. We do not have money. We have managed to get only US$40 million out of the US$500 million required.

“Our warehouses are empty. I have tried to be innovative, to find ways of replenishing them. We are also restructuring for the purpose of modernisation,” he said.

Doctors claimed some hospitals were operating without water, while ablution facilities were dysfunctional.

Hospitals, they said, do not have critical equipment such as ICU machinery and ventilators, with Kwekwe Hospital relying on a borrowed machine which could be taken by the owner at any time.

The doctors decried the shortages of medication and nurses due to the introduction of flexible working hours.

They said the new system whereby nurses work for two to three days a week, puts patients at risk as there is no longer hand-over-take-over, as the nurses will be rushing to catch Zupco buses home.

However, Mr Dongo said nurses were reporting for duty because they were duty-bound, but they were working under difficult conditions.

“The nurses are incapacitated unlike doctors who are getting $10 000. For the flexible working hours we approached Government. This is not the first arrangement in Zimbabwe, we did this in 2007, 2008 and 2009. It is also being done in other countries. We only reduced the number of shifts and increased working hours.

“Doctors came to Parliament to complain when they themselves do not come to work. The deterioration of services is caused by doctors. Doctors leave patients with nurses while they attend to their patients at private hospitals,” he said.

“After every shift we do hand-over-take-over. Lack of supervision is being caused by doctors. There is need to restructure the Health Ministry.”

Doctors also raised concern over equipment which was imported from India which they said “only 10 percent of it is functional”.

On the issue of the equipment from India, Dr Moyo said it was important that the end users select the equipment they require to avoid wrong purchases.

Deputy Minister Mangwiro said he did not go to India to buy equipment, but was on a different mission.

He, however, ended up assisting because it was an emergency.

Dr Mangwiro said he contacted staff at the Zimbabwean Embassy in India and they identified the suppliers.

“I was given a list by Faith Muchemwa. The choice of the company was not mine, but was done by health and embassy officials. All I did was to carry the list. I did not buy or distribute the equipment.

“When the equipment came, the company sent its engineers who came and went back and they are expected to come back to commission the equipment,” he said.

Dr Moyo said the Government had started identifying accommodation for junior doctors.

“It was disappointing that junior doctors who lived at hospitals were also not going to work. We have discovered that there are some people who are not supposed to be stationed at the institutions. We have also identified flats that belong to NSSA and they are being refurbished. Six blocks have been identified.

“We have also put in place a facility for smaller vehicles for all our staff and this is awaiting approval,” he said.

The doctors expressed concern that some central hospitals had embarked on public private partnerships, but instead of improving service delivery, the arrangement had not ease the plight of patients.

Some of the interventions being made by the ministry include free meals for doctors on duty. We secured $20 million for the refurbishment of accommodation and infrastructure.

Dr Moyo said council clinics formed part of the broader health delivery care in Zimbabwe. Government cannot sit and watch while patients suffer, hence the move to capacitate the local clinics.

“It’s not every doctor who was on strike. Those who remained at work volunteered to help the clinics in treating patients, but only those needing emergency services.

“It should not be ignored that the health minister together with his counterparts made all the necessary efforts to capacitate the workforce and that is why the majority remained at work.

“Government can only capacitate its workers within its budgetary allocation,” he said.

Pressure Group Sends Open Challenge To Matutu And Tsenengamu

By Own Correspondent| Chipinge based pressure group Platform for Youth and Community Development (PYCD) Director Claris Madhuku has challenged the Zanu PF youth leaders Lewis Matutu and Godfrey Tsenengamu to go beyond words and confront controversial business tycoon Billy Rautenbach whom they accused of bleeding the economy through corrupt operations.

Posting on Facebook, Madhuku said the call by Matutu and Tsenengamu vindicates his organisation which has over the past decade fought Rautenbach over his ethanol business operations which have displaced thousands of Chisumbanje villagers in Chipinge.

“One of the ‘Take Aways’ from the ZANU PF Youth league is that confirmation on the centrality of Billy Rautenbach in the corruption conundrum in the country.

“Whether diversionary or clear determination, some of us who have been shouting from the mountains are genuinely calling for action beyond those words. If Lewis Matutu and Tsenengamu are ready to be our heroes , we invite them to Chisumbanje and Chinyamukwakwa and surely Billy will not last a day,” wrote Madhuku.

He further invited the Zanu PF duo to visit the affected communities urging them to go beyond words if they are genuine in their fight against corruption.

“I am sending an open challenge to the ZANU PF Youth league…”

Addressing the press in Harare yesterday Matutu and Tsenengamu questioned Billy Rautenbach’s monopoly in the ethanol production, further accused the tycoon of selling the sugar-cane made fuel at very high prices.

Nurses Tell Govt To Tell Strive Masiyiwa To Pay Them Too

Correspondent|Nurses working in the public health system want Strive Masiyiwa’s HigherLife Foundation to grant them a financial package as it has done for doctors.

Zimbabwe Nurses Association (ZINA) president Enock Dongo told Members of Parliament on Monday that the government should talk to Masiyiwa on their behalf so that they also get a golden handshake. Said Dongo:

“We are imploring to the government to say a health delivery system is like a body. There is no way that you can work effectively without the other part. We complement each other.

“So when the doctors were on strike, it seems as if going on strike pays more than those who were at work. Nurses were at work suffering without resources.

“Those who were abandoning patients, going on strike they then come now with an offer they have been given by somebody and say all the nurses come back to work five days a week. Munhu iyeye arikutaura ane ZW$10 000 irikudziya pahomwe umwe haana chaakapihwa.

Under the Highlife Foundation arrangement, consultants get ZW$10 000, ZW$5 000 for junior doctors, and ZW$7 500 for the seniors, per month.

Coronavirus: Chinese Taxi Driver Kicks Out Foreign Passenger From Taxi After Coughing As Zimbabweans In China Raise An SOS.

Own Correspondent|A video has been shared online showing a Chinese taxi driver throwing out a coughing passenger out of the car.

In the now-viral footage, the masked driver appeared alarmed as soon as he heard his customer cough.

The passenger got into the cab wearing a mask and asked the driver to take him to the hospital. As soon as the passenger coughed, the driver immediately asked him why he was coughing.

In the clip, the concerned driver commented on the passenger’s accent, which doesn’t sound local. He then asked the passenger if he had flu after hearing him sniffle.

The driver finally pulled over and told the passenger to get out of the vehicle.

China is currently experiencing a coronavirus outbreak.

Wuhan, the capital of central China, has approximately nine million people under quarantine after the city was sealed due to the spread of the virus.

According to latest reports, over 20 000 cases have been reported in China with an estimated 500 deaths.

Social media users had mixed reactions to the video.

“That is kind of heartless,” Marine CafeBlog said on Twitter.

“First, he lied to the taxi driver. I agree with taxi driver. Kick all the lies,” Moamera Sumitro said.

“I think this was rude as hell. I understand people are scared but he should have asked him before he got in the car. If that were your son or relative how would you feel if someone did that to you? Does not mean the young man was infected,” TweetThis Babe said.

“Nobody wants to be infected, he just did the right thing.” WrapUrMind said.

“Very hard to get the moral side from these vids. On one side it’s against morals and humanity just to get rid of a sick person on the street but on another side, there is a plaque around the country,” Hilman Anjaz said.

“Heartless is when he did not tell the taxi driver that he was feeling sick when asked first,” Ammar Mani said.

Meanwhile, Zimbabweans in China have raised an SOS call to be evacuated from the country.

Big Dhara Togarepi Sides With Matutu, Tsenengamu

By Jane Mlambo| In yet another twist to the Zanu PF Youth League confusion over Deputy Secretary Lewis Matutu and Political Commissar Godfrey Tsenengamu’s name and shame list of corrupt cartels in the country, Secretary for Youths Affairs in the ruling party, Pupurai Togarepi has sided with the duo while dismissing a tweet by the youth league.

Following the press conference by Matutu and Tsenengamu, the Zanu PF Youth League Twitter handle posted a message distancing the organ from the duo’s action while urging those with incriminating evidence to approach the law enforcement agents.

The state owned Herald went on to carry a story based on the youth league remarks but Togarepi said the newspaper had extracted news from a shadowy twitter group.

“Herald should not attempt to drive a wedge in the Zanu-PF Youth League by extracting news from shadowy twitter groups. I hope the paper will correct its dubious story without delay unless there are ulterior motives. Our position : No to corruption in all its manifestation,” said Togarepi.

It seems battle lines have been drawn in the youth league and it remains to be seen how things will unfold going forward.

Matutu And Tsenengamu Told To Learn From Kudzanai Chipanga

Godfrey Tsenengamu

Correspondent|MDC secretary for education Fadzayi Mahere has dismissed ZANU PF Youth League leaders, Tongai Matutu and Godfrey Tsenengamu as lapdogs who are being used by old men.

Matutu and Tsenengamu held a press conference on Monday where they accused prominent businesspeople, among them Kuda Tagwirei and Billy Rautenbach of corruption.

Mahere also warned Matutu and his colleagues that they risk being used and then spit out as happened to Kudzanai Chipanga. Mahere wrote on Twitter:

“Zanu PF youths have no agency of their own. They are lapdogs for the old, wasted men at the top for whom they bark in return for trinkets. Their poorly choreographed slideshows are a weak attempt to distract us from the real issues.

We want food, fuel and forex.

Musatinyaudze!”

“Zanu PF youths learnt nothing from Kudzai Chipanga. These old men will use you then spit you out. You’re better off fighting for a constitutional democracy made of strong institutions so that you are safe when disaster strikes.”

Chipanga was a ZANU PF youth leader towards the end of the Robert Mugabe era and is famous for daring military Generals a few days before the November 2017 coup. He was subsequently arrested and fell out of favour with the ruling party.

And on my left is Lewis Matutu also representing himself and his children, and those to come after us. We are not representing anyone else.

I will continue to mix languages because speaking is difficult so fathers and mothers we are meeting here in this house we have come to you as the children of Zimbabwe with the way we are are suffering as we look into the future for our children and children’s children we decided that if we do not rise to represent those to come those who will go go come after us will come back to us to ask u’s what we have done.

Like we said we are not representing anyone here we are representing ourselves and we decided that we have the right to say what we want what we say might be wrong but we choose to speak so we know that after we have spoken there are many things that might end up happening because what we are now doing will make many people angry they are going to be furious but we have no clue we do not know what theur anger is going to cause or create out of this. We know that all of us are in a ship that is about to capsize. We are looking to the ones who are responsible. We are not able to stand up, so we are comfortable to think while we are sitting here because we have achieved so much in life that whatever conditions we we have have are crucial to our future so we decided that… the nation is at stake so we have  come to speak about the act of theft
[2/3, 12:39] ZimEye: We have come to denounce the acts of many people who are greedy, those who are gathering wealth against our future let us see that by now we should have have achieved so much these people have been gaining so much against us but we have decided to say no because if we remain quiet the worst will come because the way they are behaving will destroy us
[2/3, 12:39] ZimEye: Last time we decided but now there are things that we cannot say today we are not talking about these other things which happened in another place
[2/3, 12:40] ZimEye: First let me speak on the story which I would like to narrate, it should not trouble us or be difficult.. but the way in which they are are being greedy is affecting all of us, they are being selfish
[2/3, 12:42] ZimEye: They are all over even here inside here they are are present and we tell them go back and tell them that the whole country is not happy, some people are asking us Youth League when did you become the anti-corruption unit but I don’t have much to say but we will not keep quiet while these things are happening but many times we are raising questions that when will the police and the anti-corruption unit do the job?
[2/3, 12:42] ZimEye: These things and right now as we are speaking if they release 1% of the money that they have a mother who is in the rural areas will cry because of that money but this money where are they getting it today they are arresting children who are in the street calling them money changes but they are leaving the real people who are benefiting at the top
[2/3, 12:43] ZimEye: This is where we have a challenge we have people who are mining gold or other minerals they are taking everything to themselves the old people are there the Young all over so we have said and the problem that they have caused is that even right here inside this room there are some who have been sent to say that we here are the ones who have captured the whole country but we asked them what about how they have captured the country
[2/3, 12:44] ZimEye: These thieves began way back when Joyce Mujuru was around
[2/3, 12:45] ZimEye: They were sponsoring the G14 and the Lacoste factions.. they have never been politicians and where they are stealing they are taking away wealth simply because they are thieves
[2/3, 12:46] ZimEye: We know that there are consequences for the things that we are going to announce today these cartels are very powerful they are not connected to any political party why because they are everywhere because they are gender is that whoever comes into power they will continue stealing so the fight has got nothing to do with a party the fight has got nothing to do with politics for us it is a generational fight we are perishing so this is what has motivated as to come and address you today against the powerful cartels our thoughts are centred on one person once we have named a person we will state who they are they are some hotels in the Diamond some are in the fuel some are in the transport sector some in the retail sector they are all there
[2/3, 12:46] ZimEye: This is the story that I thought to introduce to you you to let you know this is what we have for you you
[2/3, 12:47] ZimEye: So I thought to tell you all that that everyone must bear their cross
[2/3, 12:48] ZimEye: So this behaviour of hiding behind leaders we will not tolerate we cannot allow such a situation so now let me me Bring Out My Relative called Matutu…

Some were now saying Tsenengamu what is he and Matutu up to now?
[2/3, 12:48] ZimEye: You are selling your soul to the devil before because of 20 pieces of silver so now over to you Mr Matutu
[2/3, 12:49] ZimEye: I was on the phone talking to someone who was trying to bribe me and I refused.
[2/3, 12:49] ZimEye: Our problems have got nothing to do with politics or a political party they are all to do with the nation we believe that the nation of Zimbabwe comes first our conduct must reflect Zimbabwe as my self this is what we are here for
[2/3, 12:50] ZimEye: We should not keep quiet because there are some people…. here where we are we we have decided that we will not keep quiet on corruption issues
[2/3, 12:50] ZimEye: My relatives here looking at how old we are we must ask ourselves let’s say you have been given 10000 US dollars then what now
[2/3, 12:51] ZimEye: Ask yourself. We believe in equal distribution of wealth in our country… how then do we get to a situation where one person is the one who is is building toilets who is assembling solar panels
[2/3, 12:52] ZimEye: We as the youth believe that our president Emmerson mnangagwa deserves our genuine support those who believe in him will understand that the president needs genuine support the other people who are stealing who are then going behind that is ending today we want a situation where if I am a thief I must be be dried and sent to prison this is the approach that we are are taking up up we thank the efforts by the government and we are hoping that things improve but are all local people must not teach that that corrupt people must be allowed to continue that is wrong and this is what we want to talk about today
[2/3, 12:53] ZimEye: Some people we once told them. . Whatever the consequences whatever happens today day we are not concerned because the message will have been sent the nation will know what we have said
[2/3, 12:54] ZimEye: Let me know talk about this man called .. who is in charge of fuel we talked about how he is in command agriculture now we are waiting for him how does an individual go to the banks and withdraw money to the tune of $500,000 to do what
[2/3, 12:54] ZimEye: The accounts were once frozen but they were unfrozen
[2/3, 12:54] ZimEye: But what I want to say is that all problems are coming from this person called
[2/3, 12:57] ZimEye: My concern is that the other people who have got nothing to do with this to try and say that there is nothing going on with this person but let him prove his case there are some who are working with him some of them we have talked about them but because we cannot connect things that are unrelated I may not mix two issues now looking at these two issues this person you will see a man who doesn’t even have a heart if you look at the things that are happening in the country the government then you’ll see one person wanting to take advantage and make money on his own for himself but when you do that that let you let people know that you are the one causing all the suffering we want to clarify something there may be political organisations who would want to ride on our struggle against corruption and come up with a narrative no relax this has got nothing to do with politics it is an issue we are just speaking because someone something we have have a speaking on a position of privilege we have seen some people writing on Twitter so this is the first person that I would like to talk about
[2/3, 12:57] ZimEye: Let me tell you about this person I know you are going to talk about him right about this and be bribed by him but I’m not concerned
[2/3, 13:12] ZimEye: We cannot go and arrest the children in the street while leaving the Big Fish what are inside the officers if you go to the council’s the top of the range of cars that they brought in through a scheme called command this and that you will be shocked because they have been given permission by people in authority to do that so this is where we are now asking leadership asking them to choose to stand with with or to stand with the people this is where we are going asking them to stand with Kuda or you stand with the people..

I have talked about Billy now I should be talking about others this one deals with gold what is his name by the way? AsI am speaking he is unsettled because he is part of the gold cartel. Now let me rest.

Matutu: we are crying because of the judicial services commission is currently on holiday but we are crying because on all these issues of corruption there are three conditions they might not reach that number but what are they doing to the people who are stealing from the country are they part of it is there someone who is telling them not to prosecute perhaps it is so because this is like someone who has been raped they then …appear together with someone who who has raped after two weeks imagine how that will be to the public
[2/3, 13:12] ZimEye: All of a sudden the technical the now appear as if they know more than anyone else
[2/3, 13:12] ZimEye: Why are they leaving the people who are committing these crimes
[2/3, 13:12] ZimEye: I bet the last drop of my blood….
[2/3, 13:13] ZimEye: Inasmuch as we would like to talk about these things it is time that we come open those who want to criticize us should keep quiet because they are people who are bribing
[2/3, 13:13] ZimEye: It is time we take the right direction if we want this country to be a country yes after this it is time something is done.

NAMED ACCUSED PERSONS:

Kuda Tagwirei , Tafadzwa Musara, Pan Pap, Billy Rautenbach, Brighton, phocil agro, Phocil Contracting, Obey Chimuka, Landela Pharmaceutical, Danya, a Congolese.

[2/3, 13:16] ZimEye: Let me finish by a matter which is frightening if if we get to a stage where because of what we have spoken like this we appear as if we have have overstepped the Mark you have all been listening… if anything happens to the two of us don’t keep quiet about these issues we expect people to react but we don’t expect the Voice of Reason to keep quiet some of us are not comfortable of these things and perhaps there are a lot of people who can’t even say but if it sore happens where we have been incapacitated do not keep quiet about this because generations to come will have have to ask we have prepared ourselves we know what what could happen to us but there are reasons why we should push this agenda for us as young as as young people if we are to move together let’s move together to ensure that corruption is dealt with yes they are some things that could bring our nation down so much resources are being taken by a few people so this must end and must End right now My Relative my friend let me now go quiet.
[2/3, 13:18] ZimEye: One matter that I would like to raise his that we have to hold people accountable for whatever they are doing because if we go to the police they will tell you that they arrest if you go to the prosecuting authority they tell you that they do prosecute you go to the judge they tell you that they are not the ones who bring the evidence you go higher and you are told that we are not the ones who should bring the evidence so the people who are supposed to deal with these crimes the commissioner of the anti-corruption commission tells you that they are also worried about the things that are happening this is the chairperson of the Zimbabwe anti-corruption commission we asked the leaders and they told us that they are worried about the catch and release so everyone and you then ask are you responsible for this what will you say about this who is responsible for the catch and release so this fight will not be confined to us alone it is a generational fight for us to fight as the Citizens of Zimbabwe so we are inviting all the zimbabweans to come and join this fight where will they join it ..we have decided to create a platform that we decided to agree all of us as children of Zimbabwe who will have have decided we have we are in anti-corruption commission of our own as citizens we become a own watchdog
[2/3, 13:20] ZimEye: So we are taking this fight to it’s rightful owners the Citizens of Zimbabwe in the next 2 days that platform of citizens and we will need to be having we could do not know the law and everyone who is winning to fight corruption and the next thing that we are going to propose to do is to say let’s organise and anti-corruption conference where we call the national prosecuting authority they’re Zimbabwe anti-corruption commission the police the Justice the Ministry of Justice the judiciary to ask them please come here zimbabweans deserve to know who is the problem and where is the problem and we asked president Emerson and I want to ask him father come here and listen to the problems here that people are speaking and we ask people to come to rainbow Towers or the other international Conference Centre to explain to us us to the people who are giving out tender to only one person why are they doing this they want to benefit on their own please explain to us how money is coming out of the reserve bank of Zimbabwe and going onto the street so when we do that when we are going to invite them in the next few days into the public we are going to invite them
[2/3, 13:23] ZimEye: It’s an all stakeholders Gathering people should know those will not have come why don’t we remove the logs that don’t have smoke and then we decide as citizens we will not invite the Press we want this not to be an event but to be a process of Life to make sure we are up to date with the day-to-day issues that are happening with corruption issues we will create a toll free number that when a person has reported an anti-corruption matter we can follow up with the commission.

It will be an independent commission so we as citizens we have a right to ask and follow up on the matter so the task force will operate on its own and no one can Can Stop Us from doing this because we have freedom of association because the cartels that we have talked about they are well organised so if we fail to organise ourselves we will perish so let me invite those who would like to ask questions you ask questions and we start with you you Blessed…

[2/3, 13:24] ZimEye: Question: Just a few weeks ago the vice-president admitted on his own that he was given a car; in public from the same person, Tagwirei you are naming as corrupt how do you separate?

[2/3, 12:38] ZimEye: my name is Godfrey Tsenengamu representing myself, my children and those to come after me.

Chinese Embassy In Zim Stops More Chinese From Coming Into Zim

Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Guo Shaochun

State Media|The Chinese government has urged its citizens visiting coronavirus hotspots like Wuhan in Hubei province to suspend travelling to Zimbabwe until the epidemic is contained.

The team is responsible for setting up priority areas in response to the coronavirus threat.

No cases have been reported in Zimbabwe.

Secretary for Health and Child Care Dr Agnes Mahomva said the ministry had stepped up the monitoring process by screening everyone coming from affected areas.

The surveillance team remains on high alert at all points of entry and health facilities.

As MDC We Haven’t Moved Away From July 30 2018

By A Correspondent| Hopes of MDC President Nelson Chamisa joining Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Polad club were dashed early this morning when a senior MDC official said the MDC remains resolute.

Speaking during an early morning discussion on Tuesday (with analyst Wilbert Mukori, the MDC North America Chairman, Chief Svosve (Tawanda Dzvokora), said the MDC has not moved away from its position in July 2018.

Chief Svosve said: “… as MDC we are still where we were on July 30, 2018 that the elections were rigged.

“And this election was rigged twice at the same time, we were rigged by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, and the election was rigged by the constitutional court; and we haven’t moved away from that.

“And we are still pursuing this issue and of course following a political agenda and like I said if there is a possibility any hope that this case can be opened with the new evidence that was talked about by president Chamisa and the new evidence that was brought about by the publication of Jonathan Moyo’s book and also what happened in Malawi today; if there is any hope that lawyers legal experts, legal minds, can sit down and try to see if there is that possibility, I’m sure it will be welcome.

“But as a party we haven’t lost hope, we will continue to follow every channel and other means to ensure that what happened in 2018 does not happen again.”

Malaba Defers Hearing Chiwenga’s Appeal Against High Court Ruling

Justice Luke Malaba

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s urgent chamber appeal hearing challenging the recent High Court decision to allow his estranged wife, Marry Mubaiwa, to have custody of the couple’s three minor children has been deferred to tomorrow.

It emerged yesterday that the hearing was moved to tomorrow to allow lawyers to file their heads of argument by today.

Chief Justice Luke Malaba directed VP Chiwenga’s lawyer Advocate Lewis Uriri, instructed by Manase and Manase law firm, to file his heads of argument yesterday while Mubaiwa’s lawyers Mtetwa and Nyambirayi Legal Practitioners are expected to file today, according to sources close to the matter.

VP Chiwenga’s appeal to the Supreme Court follows Justice Christopher Dube-Banda’s ruling granting Mubaiwa the relief she sought, and restraining the VP from interfering with her access to the Borrowdale Brooke mansion.

Mubaiwa had approached the High Court seeking custody of the minor children after VP Chiwenga allegedly took the children and barred her from accessing the matrimonial home.

However, VP Chiwenga did not agree with the High Court ruling resulting in him approaching the superior court.

The noting of the appeal by the VP effectively suspended the order for him to surrender custody of the children to Mubaiwa until the ruling of the Supreme Court.

“We Are In A Sinking Ship,” ZANU PF Youth Leaders Declare

Lewis Matutu

Own Correspondent|The Zanu PF Youth League deputy secretary Lewis Matutu and political commissar Godfrey Tsenengamu have described their party as a sinking ship made worse by un-curtailed corruption activities by a few people close to the top leadership of the country and party.

Matutu and Tsenengamu convened a Press conference in Harare yesterday where they accused three leading businessmen of bleeding the economy through corruption.

They accused the three of controlling the fuel, mining, transport, retail, construction and grain milling industries.

Matutu and Tsenengamu said they were speaking in their individual capacities.

“We are in a ship where some individuals are busy drilling holes for it to sink,” said Tsenengamu.

“Our action to name and shame the corrupt are driven by our patriotism. This a generational fight because if we leave this to continue, future generations will curse us for turning a blind eye to a cancer which is tearing the social and moral fibre of our country.

“These corrupt cartels are very powerful and have been left to do as they please for a long time. Their actions are driven by greed. They are fuelling all black market activities and claim that they are related or close to the national leadership. They have become the untouchables.”

Matutu said the country’s leadership deserved genuine support.

“Some of these people take advantage of their closeness to the leadership to loot resources,” he said.

“Why is it an individual is almost everywhere, be it fuel or Command Agriculture? How come some individuals are allowed to withdraw as much as $500 000 from the bank. Most of our problems are coming from this heartless individual.”

Turning to the gold sector, Tsenengamu said they had managed to identify some of the companies buying gold from machete gangs.

“Some of the artisanal miners are now being jailed for up to two years, yet the big players in illegal gold activities are not being held accountable for their actions,” he said.

“We are happy that the national leadership has come in to deal with this problem. Individuals are now having a major stake in gold mining companies through their proxies. They are now controlling the whole mining sector.”

Mkhokheli, Tarumbwa To Return To Bosso?

HIGHLANDERS trained with a full squad for the first time this year, with defender Peter Muduhwa being the last to report for pre-season.

Bosso are in their third pre-season week and Muduhwa, who cited “pressing family commitments” as the reason for joining camp late, alongside another late comer Mbekezeli Sibanda, who started training on Friday, will work “extra shifts” to catch up with the rest of the squad.

Other late comers that will join the “catch-up” programme are defensive midfielder Adrian Silla and central midfielder Divine Mhindirira, who clocked in last Wednesday.

Brian Banda and winger Cleopas Kapupurika make up the final contigent of late comers.

“It’s good to have all players in camp. Some are already a gear up and for those that came late we will design a special programme that they have to follow to catch-up with the rest of the players.

We’ve been balancing ball work and physical exercises, training twice a day, but this week we’re reducing the workload, training once for all the other days so that the players recover. While the rest of the squad trains once a day, those who reported late will train twice,” said a member of the technical team.

With coach Mark Harrison waiting for his work permit, assistant coaches Mandla Mpofu and Bekithemba Ndlovu, goalkeepers’ trainer Julius Ndlovu, as well as developmental coach Melusi Sibanda, who heads Bosso 90, have been taking charge of the team’s pre-season training.

Highlanders’ spokesperson Ronald Moyo said the technical team will continue assessing trialists as well as players from their developmental side.

Ex-Kaizer Chiefs striker Mitchel Katsvairo (30), veteran striker Mkhokheli Dube, who turns 37 in June, 24-year-old goalkeeper Chris Mverechena, who was discarded by Caps United, 21-year-old Aces Youth Academy product Collin Mujuru from Harare City last season and Humphrey Ncube (27) from Bulawayo City are training with Bosso.

Bosso are reportedly closing in on reuniting with striker Obidiah Tarumbwa, who is presently with Talen Vision in the Zifa Southern Region Division One League.-State media

Suicide Cases “Declared” A National Crisis

NATIONAL University of Science and Technology (Nust) Vice Chancellor Professor Mqhele Dlodlo has said suicide cases in the country must be treated as a looming national crisis amid revelations that 1 641 people took their lives in 2018.

Addressing delegates during a two-day Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Prevention Seminar at the University campus which focused on mental health issues and finding ways to prevent them, Prof Dlodlo said statistics showed that 1 641 cases of suicide were recorded in 2018 while 1 838 people perished through road traffic accidents the same year.

University students are part of the statistics although it could not be established exactly how many of them have taken their lives.

“According to WHO, 1,3 percent or 1 641 deaths were due to suicides. To put this in perspective, in the same year, 2018, it was reported that 1 838 people died due to road accidents. What this clearly indicates is that we must treat suicides in Zimbabwe as a looming crisis just the way we do road traffic accidents,” said Prof Dlodlo.

He added that most cases of suicide were by hanging.
“Most such deaths are by hanging. Police reported 142 such cases in the first three months of 2019,” Prof Dlodlo said.

The Nust Vice Chancellor said the seminar was the first one to be held and hoped that similar programmes were going to be implemented in other institutions.-State media

Man Stabbed To Death While Attempting To Stop A Fight

A MAN from Bulawayo’s Mabuthweni suburb was stabbed to death with an Okapi knife while trying to intervene in a fight.

We encourage people to embrace the spirit of dialogue,” he said.-State media

Man “Kills” Daughter For Having A Boyfriend

A 42-YEAR-OLD Silobela man has been sentenced to five years in prison for fatally assaulting his 15-year-old daughter using a fan belt accusing her of having a boyfriend.

He said Mpanduki was arrested after being on the run for some time.-State media

HUGE BLOW FOR MNANGAGWA AS SUPREME COURT ….

Malawi’s Supreme Court yesterday annulled last year’s disputed presidential election results (which ZANU PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa had endorsed as free and fair) citing “widespread” irregularities and ordered a new vote.

The election last May returned the sitting president to power, leading to deadly confrontations and widespread unrest.

The development is a loss to not only him, but his regional backers.

Furthermore the verdict serves as a judicial precedent that can be used in neighbouring Zimbabwe. Legal experts said that with the recent revelations submitted in writing before Zimbabwe’s Parliament by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission concerning the 2018 polls, the Malawi development could combined strengthen chances of a new ConCourt appeal by MDC President Nelson Chamisa. Constitutional Court expert Dr Lovemore Madhuku told ZimEye, Chamisa can certainly appeal based on new evidence (click here to listen).

Speaking during his nation address in Mbare last week, Chamisa announced how there is now new evidence officially submitted by ZEC that shows the 2018 polls were illegally conducted. In an appeal, the Malawi case can now be cited. Mnangagwa had endosed Malawi’s polls as free and fair

Dembare To Play Friendlies In SA

Dynamos are set to take their pre-season preparations beyond the Zimbabwe borders as the club announces a tour of South Africa.

The Glamour Boys will play a couple of practice matches against top-flight teams as well as those from the lower leagues. The games are likely to be played behind closed doors as the South African season is still underway.

Club spokesman Tinashe Farawo confirmed the news to the Herald, saying: “We are holding several camps in the country’s resorts and next week we will continue with those bonding camps in Shamva. Of course, we will tour several countries in the region including South Africa this pre-season.

“Plans for the team to go to South Africa for a pre-season camp where we will play practice matches against both top-flight and lower division teams in that country are advanced.”

Farawo also said Dynamos will sign partnership agreements with some of the region’s big teams which will see the country’s biggest and most successful team exchanging notes and personnel with those clubs.

“The idea is to make Dynamos a big entity. So we are strategising on how we will go about it. There are teams in the region, including of course in South Africa, which we are talking to at the moment.

“We will partner some and twin with others. Football needs modern strategies and that is one of the ways to go,” he said.-Soccer 24

ZEC Boss Retires: I’m Leaving A Good Legacy

Matebeleland North Provincial Elections Officer, Mr Mark Ndlovu, has retired.

Speaking at a farewell party attended by family members, friends and Zimbabwe Electoral Commission Matabeleland North staff in Bulawayo on Saturday, Mr Ndlovu said he was retiring a satisfied man after serving his country well in various capacities and portfolios.

“I am leaving a happy man having liberated this country, served in the Zimbabwe National Army and joined Zec and now am going home leaving a good legacy,” he said. Mr Ndlovu said working in Zec is challenging because contesting parties are difficult to satisfy.

“Elections are so contextual, those whom we serve are all our stakeholders and it is difficult for them to be satisfied. They will say they are not happy with the way you have conducted the elections but on our part, we do everything within the confines of the laws of the country,” he said.

Mr Ndlovu said he was going to venture into farming and contribute towards the national economy. “I like new challenges and from here I am going into full time farming. I want to contribute to the turnaround of the economy,” he said.

Mr Painos Buligwamano, Binga District Elections Officer, said Mr Ndlovu was leaving a legacy of hard work and dedication.

“Mr Ndlovu is leaving a legacy of hard work, commitment and working within the legal framework. It was a pleasure working under him and we even nicknamed him ‘Mr legal framework’ because of his commitment to constitutionalism,” he said.

Another colleague, Mr Sifelani Mhlanga said Mr Ndlovu was a hard worker who wanted things done correctly every time.

“He is a man who always emphasised on punctuality. He always said ‘do the right thing the first time. There is no room for mistakes,” he said.

Family members said though retired, Mr Ndlovu was not tired. “Yes, my father is retiring but he is not tired,” said one of his children Saziso.

An official who preferred anonymity said Mr Ndlovu is retiring because he has reached the retirement age.

“It’s a normal procedure in the commission. When one reaches retirement age its automatic,” he said.

Mr Ndlovu was born on January 31, 1955 in Bulilimamangwe District. He joined the liberation struggle in 1976.

Upon independence, he was attested into the army and rose through the ranks to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He retired in 2005.

He then joined the then Electoral Supervisory Commission in 2005 until its reconstitution into Zec in 2007. state media/Chronicle

ZANU PF Councillor Rejects Headmaster From School For Accepting A Prize Giving Donation From An MDC Member

Correspondent|MAZOWE ward 13 councillor Edward Mutyavaviri (ZANU PF) is alleged to have chased a St Albans primary school head away after receiving a donation from a MDC official on their speech and prize giving day last year.

The school head Cleopas Nembawari left the school last week Monday with Anglican officials who came to enquire about the matter.

Mutyavaviri is reported to have threatened the head   with unknown actions.

The councillor confirmed conducting the meeting with various village heads who unanimously agreed to chase the head away.

“We held a meeting with a number village heads who were disgruntled with the conduct and informed the Anglican officials who then took him away after the meeting,” said Mutyavaviri before switching off his phone.

MDC chairperson George Gwarada who was part of the guests on the speech and prize giving day and donated two tonnes of cement to the school expressed disgust on the behavior of Mutyavaviri and has since filed a police report.

“As MDC we are very disturbed with this Zanupf councillor the speech and prize ceremony was a non political and my donation was for the development of the school but we begin to wonder when we see such rogue councillors victimizing civil servants,” fumed Gwarada.

“We have since filed a police report at Glendale police station under CR 10042 /01/20 and we hope police will act on the matter.”

Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe could neither confirm nor deny the case saying he will look into the matter.

“I have not received that case but let me look into the matter and will get back to you as soon l get the details,” Mundembe said.

An Anglican Church official who declined to be named said the situation was tense hence they had to take their head away fearing for his life.

“The councillor was very furious about the donation and mobilized village heads who vowed to deal with the head if he remains in charge of the school so we had no choice than to withdraw him from there because we never knew what they would do to him,” said the source.

Alick Macheso Refuses To Be Paid For Supporting Selmor Mtukudzi

Alick Macheso

Selmor Mtukudzi this past weekend proved that she is the rightful heiress to Tuku Music with a successful album launch.

The album, Dehwe ReNzou, produced by South Africa’s Steve Dyer has 11 tracks —Mandidzimbira, Mbodza, Zvine Basa Rei, Unconditional Love, Tanda Mbizi, Wadzipwa, Uchafinhwa, Tawanda Sei?, Ngoma Ngaitsve, Usareve Nhema and Babe Can I?

Performing in front of an appreciative audience at the RM Garden Hall Exhibition Park in Harare on Friday evening, it was clear Selmor is destined for dizzy heights as she performed like a professional.

Sulumani, son of the late Simon Chimbetu wowed the audience after he made a cameo appearance on stage and helped Selmor sing one of her late father’s tracks. After the performance, he said he could not resist joining Selmor on stage as her show reminded him of when his father died.

“I just want to say to my sister Selmor and her husband, this road that you’re walking is the same as the one I travelled after the death of my father. My advice to you is just be cool, humble, stay focused and you’ll go forward.

“You have the support of the fans and ours so you’re doing just fine,” said Sulumani.

Moments after Sulumani left the stage, Selmor was joined on stage by Sungura maestro, Alick Macheso for yet another cameo appearance. He also performed one of her father’s tracks with her and the crowd went into a frenzy.

Interestingly, it was later revealed that Macheso who closed off the show, refused to be paid for his performance.

“When we asked Macheso how much he’d want for his performance, he refused saying Selmor was his daughter so he would just come to perform as a way of supporting her career,” event promoter, Josh Hozheri said while commending Macheso for his gesture.

But as fate would have it, Macheso may just have left with more money than he would have been paid by the promoter as people who were in the VIP and VVIP sections kept pulling him to the side during his performance to put US dollars into his pockets.

After Selmor concluded her performance, she, unlike other artistes, took time to meet and greet fans as well as pose for photos, something which endeared her to the fans.

Khama Billiat Takes Pestering Baby Mama To Court Seeking Protection From Her.

Correspondent|Khama Billiat has filed court papers to bar the mother of his alleged love child from ‘harassing’ him.

According to the Sunday Sun, the Kaizer Chiefs star wants the 22-year-old to stop calling him, visiting his work or home and to do interviews with media regarding her relationship with him.

A friend of the young mother confirmed to the Sunday newspaper that the unnamed baby mama went to Chiefs’ training grounds to speak to Billiat, but he refused to come out.

“It’s not easy to get in there. When you arrive at the gate, they have to call him first. If he refuses to grant you entry as a visitor, then security doesn’t allow you to come in,” the friend is quoted as saying by the Sunday Sun.

Amakhosi communication manager Vina Maphosa confirmed he has met Billiat’s baby mama.

“I don’t have reports. I will find out,” said Maphosa.

“The lady once came to the Village and just like any other walk-ins I received her, listened to her query with utmost compassion and gave her advise on the club protocols of dealing with private matters.”

“Linking Young Highlanders Player With The Coronavirus Is Nonsensical”

Prince Dube

By Ezra Tshisa Tshisa Sibanda|To suggest Highlanders player Prince Dube is under surveillance for coronavirus disease because he was in China recently is misplaced and laughable. Prince Dube has been in the country for a while now after his trial stint at a Chinese Team located over 700 Kms from Wuhan, the Coronavirus origination point. He was never prone to the disease which broke out after he had left China.

The reports about Highlanders superstar being on surveillance has left Prince being prone to name calling, abuse and causing unnecessary panic especially to his team mates and instilled fear amongst his family, friends and supporters of this great club. Definition of the word surveillance is very clear. It means close observation, especially of a suspected spy or criminal. How & why is that process “done” on Prince Dube yet he is not of interest to anybody. If anyone suspected he might be infected with this deadly disease, they should have done blood tests on him at the airport, checked symptoms if indeed they suspected him, then isolate him for at least 3 days to MONITOR him and others from China. Suspected people are closely monitored and isolated by health professionals and no surveillance is unleashed on them because following someone cant stop infection spreading.

The health official who “confirmed”, if indeed he did, that Prince was on surveillance is a shame to the Health Profession and Ministry. He should have said the Ministry is monitoring the virus on people who recently returned from China just like other countries are doing. No trained person, professional or doctor would mention, let alone confirm any health doubts or illness of anybody to 3rd parties or to the press. This was reckless from ministry official and those who believe in that official. Leave Prince Dube from unnecessary gossip and pressure. The boy wants to play his football and concentrate on winning things with Highlanders FC.

Lets not lie to the public, no one can see the disease with a naked eye, not even those torches used at the airports, whatever you call them can detect the virus.
There are more than 17,000 confirmed cases of
the virus in China. Some 361 people have died
in the mainland alone. Outside China, there are more than 150 confirmed cases of the virus and one death, in the Philippines. No reports from Zim Government indicating any one infected or any victims that have died from the disease.

George Chigova Battling To Avoid Relegation From S.A. Premiership

Chigova and co. flirting with relegation after latest setback

Struggling Polokwane City’s woes continue after they succumbed to yet another defeat, this time a 0-1 loss to fellow relegation candidates AmaZulu.

The Limpopo-based side, home to the Zimbabwean trio of George Chigova, Walter Musona and Charlton Mashumba, have lost 14 of their last 16 games in all competitions, sinking in the murky waters of relegation places in the process.

In fact, Rise and Shine are now bottom of the ABSA Premiership table with a paltry 17 points from 21 games.

Yesterday’s game presented City with a golden chance to move off the bottom of the table as they played AmaZulu, whom they are now 3 points adrift as the relegation battle escalates.

Zimbabwe’s Gabriel Nyoni Praised For Hearty Apology After Injuring Goalkeeper In A Clash

Gabriel Nyoni

MARITZBURG United’s Zimbabwe winger Gabriel Nyoni has been praised for his sportsmanship after his hearty apology to Cape Town United goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh on Friday night.

Nyoni was shown a straight red card five minutes before the break when he planted a boot into Leeuwenburgh’s face during an Absa Premiership match at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

The Zimbabwean had been released by a through ball from Daylon Claasen and with the scores at 0-0, Nyoni stretched his leg hoping to get there first.

It was an ill-timed decision and the referee had no option but to send the Maritzburg winger off.

There was a 10-minute stoppage as medics attended to Leeuwenburgh, who had taken a serious blow to his nose.
In the end, the Cape Town goalkeeper had to be replaced by Sage Stephens as he could not finish the game.

After the game, Nyoni made it a point to visit the Cape Town changing room to offer his apologies to Leeuwenburgh and the rest of his teammates.

“I pray and wish Peter Leeuwenburgh a quick recovery. I apologise for my misjudgment on the pitch which led to his injury and am sorry that he couldn’t finish the match because of it. I also extend my apologies to his family, friends and Club,” Nyoni wrote on Twitter.
Respected South African sports broadcaster Robert Marawa commended Nyoni’s action.
“Speedy recovery Peter…And you Nyoni will continue to fly like the bird that you are. Class,” he wrote.

SuperSport broadcaster Mpho Letsholonyane, who is married to former Kaizer Chiefs star Reneilwe, was also impressed with Nyoni’s conduct in the aftermath of the sending off.

“It was a genuine mistake on your part. No malice intended…Speedy recovery to Peter. Keep your head up. Some lessons are tough but we grow from them,” she wrote.

After the sending off, the Team of Choice, who had been the dominant side, had to switch gear and it was no surprise when Cape Town took the lead nine minutes after the break. Thabo Nodada tapped in from close range after he was left unmarked to meet Bradley Ralani’s cross and beat United goalkeeper Richard Ofori.

Despite being a man down, the Team of Choice refused to crumble as they finally got back into the game courtesy of Jeremy Brockie’s equaliser 17 minutes from time.

The draw saw United remain in sixth place on the log with 27 points from 20 games to trail leaders Kaizer Chiefs by 18 points.
Maritzburg coach Eric Tinkler was pleased with how his team responded following Nyoni’s red card.

“I thought we didn’t take our chances. Our transitions in the first half were very brilliant, I think we should have taken the lead in the first 20-30 minutes,” Tinkler said.

“We were always threatening from the diagonals and the balls from the wings but we didn’t put the ball in the back of the next.
“I think the game completely changed when Gabriel got sent off.
“We had to go into defensive mode, we had to change the system but I’m very proud of my boys.

“They worked their socks off tonight which is something I asked and I requested and they gave it to me tonight so they can be very proud of themselves to come back after going 1-0 down and still showed the character.”
