Removing Mnangagwa : Wiwa Calls For Unity

By A Correspondent

Fiery opposition leader Job Wiwa Sikhala has called on citizens to unite in the struggle against the Zanu PF regime.

In a statement on Sunday, Sikhala said:

“To every Zimbabwean of good moral standing:

While we may be preoccupied with our daily challenges and commitments, I address you with humility and a heavy heart. Our nation is under siege from a criminal regime that is suppressing every dissenting voice.

Since the arrest of Jameson Timba and the Avondale 78, repression against political, social, and human rights activists has escalated across the country.

An operation is underway to target all known opposition activists, with no province, district, or ward spared from persecution, especially with the upcoming @SADC_News Summit in two weeks.

I urge those whose consciences reject evil to dedicate a few minutes daily to tweet about the plight of our imprisoned brothers and sisters, including Jameson Timba and the 78 others, Robson Chere, Namatai Kwekweza, and Vusi Moyo, as well as Jacob Ngarivhume and others. A simple tweet demanding their release and condemning the injustices and persecution our nation faces will make a difference.

History will remember that you did not remain silent in the face of the injustices we collectively endure.

Thank you, my brothers and sisters!”

Zanu PF Zealot Declares Emmerson Mnangagwa as SADC Chairperson

By A Correspondent

In a striking assertion, Taurai Kandishaya, a prominent official in Zimbabwe’s Zanu PF Youth League, has emphatically announced that President Emmerson Mnangagwa will become the Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) regardless of any opposition or obstacles.

On Tuesday, Kandishaya confidently proclaimed, “Behold the Incoming SADC Chairperson and nothing will stop him.”

This declaration highlights a bold, unapologetic stance in the face of potential dissent or challenges to Mnangagwa’s anticipated role within the regional organization.

Kandishaya’s remarks underscore the Zanu PF Youth League’s unwavering support for Mnangagwa and its commitment to advancing his leadership on a broader regional stage. His statement comes amid ongoing discussions and negotiations within SADC about leadership positions and future strategies.

The audacity of Kandishaya’s statement reflects a broader trend within Zimbabwean politics where high-ranking officials and party members make definitive pronouncements about the country’s role and influence in regional affairs. This development is likely to spark discussions about Mnangagwa’s potential impact on SADC’s future direction and his administration’s broader regional ambitions.

As the region watches, the next steps in the SADC leadership transition will be closely scrutinized, with Kandishaya’s assertion likely adding to the momentum surrounding Mnangagwa’s candidacy.

Chamisa Calls For Immediate Release Of Political Prisoners

By Tinashe Sambiri

Zimbabwe has become “hell on earth,” opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa declared.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Chamisa said :

“Proper Elections and Fixing Broken Politics”

Following the controversial and disputed 2023 General Elections, Zimbabweans have faced ongoing instability and unrest.

Currently, 78 families and a one-year-old child are grieving the loss of their loved ones due to the detention of 78 political prisoners.

These individuals, who held diverse political views and exercised their right to freedom of expression, were arrested on June 16, 2024, while celebrating Africa Youth Day.

They have been imprisoned for over 45 days.

Families of individuals such as Namatai Kwekeza, a human rights defender; Samuel Gwenzi, a civil society advocate; Robson Chere, a trade unionist; Promise Munkuli; and Vusimuzi Moyo are also in distress. These individuals are detained solely because of their advocacy for a better Zimbabwe and their opposition to injustices.

Robson Chere’s family is particularly concerned about his health due to injuries sustained during his arrest. Robson, a staunch advocate for workers’ rights, only seeks a better future for Zimbabwe’s workforce.

The family of Bruce Moyo, a young Councillor from Bulawayo, is suffering due to his detention, which stemmed from his exercise of political freedom and youth representation.

Many others, both young and old, are languishing in prison after being abruptly detained for no other reason than exercising their constitutional rights to association.

In Zimbabwe, being an active, conscious citizen and being young has become a crime. The youth are being persecuted for their beliefs and their desire for a better life.

The situation has reached a point where youthfulness itself is criminalized.

This assault on citizens calls for unity across political divides to condemn and reject these violations, violence, and injustices.

To the citizens of @SADC_News and all African nations, this is not civilized politics. It is bizarre and unacceptable and must be condemned by all progressives worldwide.

Zimbabwe must be free and democratic. We, the citizens, with our faith and determination, will bring about change.

Stage Set For Jacaranda Music Festival

The 8th edition of the Jacaranda Music Festival has been slated for the 4th of October, with more local and international artists billed to perform at the annual fiesta.

This year’s edition of the festival which is slowly becoming a regional attraction will see a star-studded lineup of local and international artists from countries, including South Africa, Zambia, Spain and the United States of America performing at the Thornpark Polo Club in Harare this October.

Jacaranda Music Festival Coordinator Walter Wanyanya said, “The highlight for this year is the move from Old Hararians to Thornpark. The next exciting thing is we have more artists coming this year. We have artists from Spain, the USA, Zambia and of course Zimbabwe. We come with diversity this year. We have strategic plans in action to make this a continental festival. We have managed to partner with other regional festivals.”

Officially launching the festival, the government emphasised the Second Republic’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for arts to thrive while promoting growth in the sector.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Mr Nicholas Moyo said, “As a ministry, we have taken it upon ourselves to support an increase of such platforms. We have identified at least one festival in all provinces so that we have such platforms across the country. We want to support these festivals even financially and now even groups that will participate at national events will be remunerated and raise the quality of performers.”

The launch also brought to the fore the importance of the corporate world in growing the creative sector.

“We have a lot of talent in Zimbabwe but you know fame doesn’t pay the bills. You need support and we want to ensure that our artists get real value for the talent that they deliver to the citizens of Zimbabwe. They entertain us but it doesn’t make sense if they don’t earn a decent living. So, by supporting the Jacaranda Music Festival, we are providing employment for the artists and the many service providers that come to this festival.

“That’s a lot of wealth that flows through and it then goes beyond the festival. Other artists get noticed, they get more shows, more business and that is what we are about as Standard Bank Zimbabwe. When we say Zimbabwe is our home, we drive growth. So, it’s not just through normal banking products but through supporting the arts as we do, that’s also supporting the artists in their development,” said Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe’s head of brand and marketing, Mr Palmer Mugavha.

Among some of the international acts include South Africa’s Micasa, Casper Nyovest, Felo le tee, Zambia’s James Sakala, America’s performing arts group Backtrack Vocals and Spain’s Idoipe.

Local acts include Freeman, Feli Nandi, Nutty O, Mokoomba and Master H, among a host of other talented artists lined up for the three-day event. ZBC NEWS

Genesis Mangombe Ditches DeMbare

Former Dynamos coach Genesis Mangombe has made a swift move to Scottland FC, a rising force in the ZIFA Northern Region Division One, just 24 hours after parting ways with the Harare giants.

Mangombe resigned from Dynamos late on Monday and was immediately appointed by Scottland FC the following day. The young coach expressed confidence in his new role, highlighting the support he has received from the Mabvuku-based club.

“With the right support, we can achieve great things,” Mangombe stated. “I believe this is the place where I can truly demonstrate my capabilities, and I am confident that we will go far.”

Scottland FC has tasked Mangombe with leading the team to promotion to the Premier Soccer League. Currently, Scottland FC is in fourth place, just four points behind the leaders, MWORS FC.

Corruption In The Shadows: “Mayor Demanded Payment From Rufaro Marketing For Personal Gain”

By Dr Masimba Mavaza, Ilyana Sithole | The ongoing commission of inquiry, chaired by Retired Judge Cheda, continues to expose heart-wrenching corruption within the City Council of Harare. One of the witnesses, Rosemary Togarepi, detailed how the opposition CCC transformed the City Council into a personal cash cow. According to Togarepi, Rufaro Marketing was compromised by the CCC, exploiting tenants and undermining legitimate businesses. The corruption within the council was likened to a bitterly divorced partner looting the matrimonial home.

Rosemary Togarepi, the General Manager of Kendrick Investments, described to the Commission a complex web of corruption involving Rufaro Marketing. The entity was portrayed as being preyed upon by councillors disguised as caretakers. Togarepi’s testimony revealed a pattern of deceit, harassment, and extortion by Rufaro Marketing officials, including Juma Ulete and Ngoni Chimbalu.

At the center of the scandal is a disputed lease agreement between Kendrick Investments and Rufaro Marketing for two properties in Mbare and Machipisa. Despite having a valid lease, Rufaro Marketing created new agreements without Kendrick’s knowledge or consent, igniting a bitter dispute.

Togarepi testified that Councilor Makuwerere, accompanied by Mayor Jacob Mafume, demanded that Kendrick allocate stalls to them, without proper authority. When Togarepi refused, Rufaro Marketing began a harassment campaign, issuing false notices and attempting to collect rentals directly from tenants. The mayor’s behavior exposed a scramble for Rufaro Marketing’s resources, threatening Harare’s financial stability. Mayor Mafume is a member of the ever-changing CCC.

Further testimony revealed that Ulete and Chimbalu, executive directors at Rufaro Marketing, unjustifiably canceled Kendrick’s lease and began issuing temporary agreements to tenants, causing chaos and violence. Tenants were directed to stop paying rentals to Kendrick and instead pay Rufaro Marketing, with funds allegedly diverted to CCC for political purposes.

Togarepi’s testimony exposed a culture of corruption and abuse of power within Rufaro Marketing and the Harare City Council. The actions of Ulete, Chimbalu, and Makuwerere demonstrate a blatant disregard for the law and a desire to exploit tenants for personal gain. Consequently, the City of Harare has lost billions of dollars, with no recovery in sight.

This scandal raises serious questions about the governance of Harare City Council and its subsidiaries. How can the public trust an institution that permits corruption and abuse of power to flourish?

Many ratepayers, speaking anonymously, urged the government to take immediate action to address this scandal and hold those responsible accountable. The council must also implement measures to prevent future scandals.

Furthermore, this scandal highlights the need for greater transparency and accountability in managing public assets. The corruption exhibited by the CCC has cast serious doubts on the opposition’s ability to govern the country. The mismanagement and inefficiency observed in the opposition-run council serve as a wake-up call for the people of Zimbabwe to vote responsibly. The government is urged to act against corruption and abuse of power to ensure transparency, accountability, and justice.

Watch: Military Tankers After Chiwenga Directly Challenged Mnangagwa’s 3rd Term Bid

By Political Reporter- Military tankers have been seen making rounds in Harare just two days after Vice President Constantino Chiwenga directly challenged President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s bid for a third term.

Earlier this week, Chiwenga warned Mnangagwa’s supporters against pushing him out of the presidential race.

In 2017, during the coup that ousted President Robert Mugabe, Chiwenga and Mnangagwa agreed that Mnangagwa would serve two terms before handing over power to Chiwenga.

However, Mnangagwa is now mobilizing his supporters to exclude Chiwenga from the succession race.

In a speech captured by ZBC News, Chiwenga, dressed in Zanu PF regalia, addressed a gathering, urging party members to remain loyal not to individuals who “come and go” but to the party and the country as a whole.

Chiwenga stated:

“There is no room for factionalism at any level in the party. A party cannot be undermined by being defined in the confines of individuals. I repeat, no factionalism in the party; we are one and shall remain one. Our loyalty is not to individuals but to the bigger agenda, which is larger than us, that of the party and the people of Zimbabwe who are supreme. It is the party, it is the people of Zimbabwe who are supreme, not me as Chiwenga; I will come and go.”

Unlike other cabinet members, including Vice President Kembo Mohadi and senior party figures, Chiwenga has refused to endorse the “ED2030” slogan, which has been interpreted as a direct challenge to Mnangagwa’s campaign.

On Wednesday, tankers similar to those deployed by Chiwenga during the 2017 coup were spotted in Harare. Former CCC deputy spokesperson Ostalos Gift Siziba posted videos of the military vehicles making rounds in the city, fueling speculation about Chiwenga’s intentions.

Fuel Prices Go Up

By Business Reporter- The prices of fuel, both Petrol and Diesel, have gone up.

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) announced Wednesday that the pump price of petrol is now US$1.60 per litre, while that of Diesel is now US$1.63 per litre.

ZERA also announced fuel prices in ZiG even though the product is unavailable in the local currency.

The price of Diesel has been set at ZiG22.42 per litre, while PetrolPetrol now costs ZiG22.08 per litre. ZERA said:

The public and operators are advised that the blending ratio is at E20. Operators may sell the petroleum products below the prescribed prices depending on their trading advantages and should display prices in a prominent place as provided for by the fuel pricing regulations.

In South Africa, the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) has effected price reductions for both PetrolPetrol and Diesel with effect from 07 August.

Both grades of PetrolPetrol will come down by 15 cents per litre, while Diesel will drop by between 17 cents (50ppm) and 28 cents (500ppm).

According to IOL, following the adjustments on Wednesday, 95 Unleaded petrol will cost R22.32 at the coast and R23.11 in Gauteng, where the slightly less expensive 93 Unleaded will now retail for R22.71.

Govt In Exile Solution Against Mnangagwa

How will a govt in exile look like judging by the foundations laid by NelsonChamisa’s 7 million diaspora base? The following video provides a guide-

……

7 million Zimbabweans,
scattered across the world’s most powerful countries of the earth, have sat down to denounce criminals, to stop criminals, to block this criminal institution run by a self boasting genocide criminal of Adolf Hitler levels,

Mr. Emmerson Mnangagwa, at whose hands are the skeketons of 30,000 innocent lives, just as the figure keeps rising.

Just in Jan 2020, he announced he will deploy the army on civilians to punish them once he suspects they are guilty of stopping the rain

Such madness has been the life of Zimbabweans’ since 1983, but it has come to an end.

Even senior members of his own party have described Mnangagwa as Hitler and as Musolini: SYDNEY-Reason Wafawarova, London-Rockefeller Zimba.

At a time when a breakaway nation of Somalia has been accepted by Kenya, the Zim govt in Exile, has been set up and received world wide.

It is made up of half of Zimbabwe’s population and it takes on the template of many other govts in Exile that were very successful in ending genocides.

The time is now.

In London the first headquarters has been set up, the embassy of the Zimbabwe govt in Exile. Zimbabweans had been praying for 37 years, today they have chosen to be the answer to their prayers.

But how much power does the Zim Govt in Exile have?

– it has the combined power of 5 of the biggest nations of the world: US, SA, Russia, EU, UK, all in one. History is unfolding before our eyes-

Chamisa Stops Mnangagwa

By Political Reporter- Opposition giant Nelson Chamisa has called for an end to the ongoing persecution of human rights activists by the Emmerson Mnangagwa regime.

Chamisa’s plea comes in the wake of the discredited and disputed 2023 General Elections, after which Zimbabweans have experienced significant unrest and lack of peace.

Chamisa highlighted the arrest of 78 political prisoners who were detained for expressing their political views and exercising their freedom of association.

These arrests lend credence to his claims about the country’s deteriorating political climate.

On June 16, 2024, these political prisoners were celebrating Africa Youth Day when they were forcibly taken to prison, where they have remained for 45 days.

Among the detained are Namatai Kwekeza, a human rights defender; Samuel Gwenzi from civil society; Robson Chere, a trade unionist; and Promise Munkuli and Vusimuzi Moyo, who were advocating for a better Zimbabwe, women’s rights, youth empowerment, and workers’ rights.

Robson Chere’s family and friends are particularly worried about his health due to injuries sustained during his arrest.

Chere’s only crime was his advocacy for better conditions for Zimbabwean workers.

Bruce Moyo, a young councillor from Bulawayo, is also detained for exercising his political freedom of association.

Many other individuals, both young and old, have been imprisoned for no crime other than exercising their constitutional rights.

In Zimbabwe, being an active, conscious citizen, especially a young one, has become a punishable offense.

This persecution of citizens for their beliefs and aspirations for better lives is a clarion call for unity across political divides to condemn these violations, violence, and injustices.

Chamisa took to his X account to express his outrage, writing:
“Fellow citizens of @SADC_News and all African countries, this can’t be civilized politics. This is bizarre, abnormal, and must be condemned by all progressives across the world. Zimbabwe must be free and democratic. We, the citizens, and Our #Godisinit will save us.”

Dr Mavaza Says Zimbos Must Desist from Demonstrating To Stop ED’s SADC Chairmanship

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | In the face of underground planned demonstrations by the opposition against Zimbabwe during SADC Zimbabweans are urged to snub and denounce such behaviour l. The planned disturbances threaten peace and the values of democratic Zimbabwe.

Dr Masimba Mavaza

Church leaders in Zimbabwe and the region must join hands in strongly strongly condemning the foreign sponsored riots that are meant to stop Zimbabwe from getting the SADC chairmanship.
The President of Zimbabwe has strongly condemned the opposition and their handlers who are clandestinely organising the youth to disturb the forthcoming SADC summit. It is the latest episode in a wave of plans and opposition shenanigans.
Zimbabwe has a “standing army” of specialist police who are ready to deal with rioting and that the justice system would be ramped up to handle those purposed to disturb our peace.

It is ironical that in the UK hundreds of arrests were made after violent disorder rocked cities across the UK over the past week. Zimbabwe has only arrested a handful of the terrorists and UK was among the loudest noise makers condemning Zimbabwe’s efforts to maintain peace.

In the UK Prime-minister Starmer convened an urgent meeting after lawlessness he blamed on “far-right thuggery” that was driven in part by misinformation on social media that whipped up anger over a stabbing rampage at a dance class that killed three girls and wounded 10 people. False rumors spread online that the suspect was a Muslim asylum-seeker led to attacks on immigrants and mosques.

“Whatever the apparent motivation, this is not protest. It is pure violence and we will not tolerate attacks on mosques or our Muslim communities,” Starmer said. “The full force of the law will be visited on all those who are identified as having taken part in these activities.”
This warning is equally the same with the warning Zimbabweans must heed. It should known that
“To all those contemplating acts of violence before, during, and after the SADC Summit: BE WARNED.*

The full force of the law will be brought down upon you with no hesitation or mercy. Any attempts to disrupt peace and stability during this critical time will be met with unyielding retribution. Zimbabwean citizens and security forces will not tolerate such malicious behaviour, and perpetrators will face severe consequences.”
One patriot Derick Goto reckoned.
The CCC Chamisa faction and Hopewell Chingono are shamelessly inciting nationwide violence in a desperate attempt to create chaos. Amos Chibaya, Gift Ostallos Siziba, Rangarirai Mutingwende, and Farai Chinobva are leading this reprehensible mission, instructing two representatives per constituency to recruit ten protesters each. These troublemakers will be bussed to Harare to spearhead the violent protests from 14 to 17 August 2024. In the meantime they have sent their mouth piece Hopewell Chingono to go to the UK to source funds for these planned riots.
The riots in England exposes the unity between the far right English and Zimbabwe opposition. This is seen in that
the Zimbabwean protests will be marked by: Barricading roads leading into the City Centre
Burning tyres,Staging abductions,Taking and disseminating pictures of arrests, Picketing and stoning hotels and SADC Summit venues,Engaging in random acts of violence and disobedience within the Central Business District (CBD)
The violent protests will be coordinated by the following Provincial leaders: Bulawayo: Pashor Sibanda and Eric Gono
Harare: Darlington Madzonga, Eric Murai, and Agency Gumbo
Manicaland: Munyaradzi Busha, Prosper Mutseyami, and Monica Mukurada. Mash Central: Dyke Makumbe and Godfrey Karembera,Mash East: Leslie Mukurazhizha and Cosmas Kanono, Mash West: Eddie Chivero and John Rolland Horton,Masvingo: Martin Mureri and Daniel Mberikunashe
Mat North: Clifford Hlatshwayo and Prince Dubeko Sibanda
Mat South: Nomathemba Ndlovu and Morgan Ncube
Midlands: John Kuka while Hopewell the Goat Chin’ono source funds in the Uk supported by HARUZIVISHE,,and John Burke.
The Security Services are fully aware of the opposition’s vile and malicious schemes to undermine President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the New Dispensation. This politically motivated sabotage, financed and coordinated by known foreign states, is a blatant attempt to provoke a heavy-handed response from the State. This response would then be exploited to isolate Zimbabwe and sustain the devastating sanctions, with the ultimate aim of toppling the government.
The opposition’s strategy of importing unknown violent protesters from various provinces is a cowardly tactic designed to hinder detection and neutralisation by Security Services. The primary culprits in this conspiracy include CCC Chamisa, the National Democratic Working Group (NDWG), Transform Zimbabwe, and numerous western-funded CSOs.It should be known that those orchestrating and coordinating these vile acts of violent political disobedience will be met with the full wrath of the law. Zimbabwe will host the SADC Summit without incident, and any attempts to disrupt this significant event will be crushed with unyielding force.
Democracy gives one way to achieve political power and relevance and it is the ballot box.

The law is the law and respects no one. It doesn’t care that you think you’re special; it will get you too.
The United Kingdom police are now going door to door to fish out those who took part or encouraged the riots. This will happen in Zimbabwe too. The rioters will have a very long time to face the music.

In the UK fake rumours circulating on social networks after the attack falsely suggested a Muslim migrant was responsible for the stabbing.
The attack, one of the worst assaults against children in the country in decades, has caused public shock in Britain, and has led to far-right and anti-immigrant violent demonstrations in several towns across the UK, which are still ongoing.

So in Zimbabwe the rumours are being sent by the CCC in a bid to remove the democratically elected government. Anti government agitators have mobilized around online misinformation and hateful, anti-Zimbabwe narratives, and urging people to attack police officers with petrol bottles and bricks, and causing maximum damage.

In the UK Over 400 people have been arrested since the riots began. In Zimbabwe we will leave no stone unturned until all perpetrators of violence are accounted for.

Newly-elected Labour Prime Minister Keir Starmer has labelled the outbreaks as ‘far-right thuggery’ and has warned social media companies that they must uphold laws that prohibit the incitement of violence online.
Zimbabwe must take a leaf from England and block the social media houses spreading falsehoods.
Zimbabweans who are agitating violence demonstrate a complete disregard of the values which underpin the civil life of our country Zimbabwe.

The actions of the few involved in violence stand in stark contrast to the work achieved by the second republic. To Zimbabweans who will preserve peace we say Thank you for all that you do in the service of the common good.

Those advocating for violence are defiling the flag they wrap themselves in when they make their sponsored noises.

Those blaming ZANU PF for their poverty must know that Social deprivation does not in any way justify this violence. The planned demonstrations as well as violence planned towards the visitors during SADC is a “stain on our national moral conscience and peace.
The planned demonstrations are absolutely disgraceful: a concerted and deliberate attempt to undermine public order and to then an attempt to grab power from a democratically elected government.

The message has to be if you allow yourself to become involved in these matters for whatever reason, then you will face the consequences.
Zimbabwe will be expecting ‘substantive sentencing’ of demonstrators when they are arrested as they surely be arrested.
The government should send a very powerful message to anybody involved, either directly or online, that you are likely to be dealt with and nobody, but nobody should be involving themselves in this disorder.”

Rioters must feel the full force of law’

We must know that the gov’s first duty is to ensure that our visitors and communities are safe.

Company Completes State House Precast Wall Project

By Jane Mlambo| Paulos Construction has finished the construction of the State House’s precast wall, with civil engineers describing the project as top class befitting of the protected premises.

There was noise when Paulos Construction was awarded the tender for the construction of the precast wall of Number 1 Chancellor Avenue, which included the President’s residence and offices.

Part of the precast wall built by Paulos Construction at State House

Close sources told this publication that the project has been concluded within the time frames stipulated in the tender documents, justifying the firm’s bid.

“All eyes were on the firm and they have delivered, justifying why they got into the race for the tender. This puts them ahead of other bidders which are known for not delivering. The precast wall was done in record time, within the agreed timelines,” the source said.

Paulos Construction is owned by businessman Paul Tempter Tungwarara who has also been spearheading a number of initiatives which have benefitted locals.

These include the countrywide borehole drilling scheme and the recently launched solar scheme in Glen View.

High Court Rules Against Tytie and Kiki for Defamation

High Court of South Africa Delivers Judgment in Defamation Case Against Social Media Personalities

By Court Reporter | ZimEye | Cape Town, South Africa – In the matter before the High Court of South Africa, Western Cape Division, case number 16255/2024, the court has rendered a judgment against the defendants, Better Kudakwashe Madhuyu and Kylie Tonsani, known by their social media pseudonyms Tytie and Kiki, for defamation.

The plaintiff, Moreboys Munetsi, represented by Advocate Isiah Mureriwa and instructed by S.E. Kanyoka Attorneys (Pretoria) c/o PVW Inc. Attorneys, Observatory, brought a suit alleging that the defendants disseminated defamatory statements on their social media platforms, characterizing him as “evil” and a “liar.” Furthermore, it was alleged that the defendants disclosed the plaintiff’s personal mobile number to their substantial online audience, resulting in harassment.

Case loss… Tytie and Kiki

The court, presided over by Acting Judge P. Farlam, found in favor of the plaintiff. The ruling emphasized the defendants’ failure to comply with the ordinary rules relating to forms and timeframes, thus granting condonation to the plaintiff and enrolling the matter as one of urgency.

Court Order:

  1. Condonation: The court grants condonation to the applicant for non-compliance with the ordinary rules relating to forms and timeframes, recognizing the urgency of the matter.
  2. Removal of Content: The respondents are directed to remove the live broadcast published on 17 July 2024 from all their social media platforms. Additionally, any video or message containing the plaintiff’s picture and personal cell phone number must be removed from such platforms. The respondents are further restrained from publishing the plaintiff’s personal information without his consent.
  3. Costs: The respondents are ordered to pay the costs of the application on a party and party basis, with counsel’s costs being taxed on Scale A.

The full quote from the judgment order states:
“I accordingly make the following order:

  1. Condonation is granted to the applicant for non-compliance with the ordinary rules relating to forms and timeframes, and the matter is enrolled as one of urgency.
  2. The respondents are directed to remove the live broadcast published on 17 July 2024 from all their social media platforms, and also remove any video or message containing the applicant’s picture and cell phone number from such platforms, as well as refrain from publishing the applicant’s personal information without his consent.
  3. The respondent is to pay the costs of the application on a party and party basis, with counsel’s costs being taxed on Scale A.”

The judgment underlines the court’s stance on the propagation of falsehoods and the consequential harm to an individual’s reputation, aligning with principles established in previous defamation cases such as Holomisa v Argus Newspapers Ltd (1996). The ruling also reflects the court’s commitment to safeguarding personal information, resonating with broader legal principles on privacy and defamation.

For respondents, Mr. Madhuyu appeared in person, underscoring the importance of legal representation in complex defamation suits. The ruling serves as a critical reminder of the legal repercussions of defamatory conduct and the necessity of adhering to legal protocols in social media communications.

Chamisa Calls For International Solidarity Amid State Onslaught Against Pro-Democracy Activists

By A Correspondent| Nelson Chamisa, former leader of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), recently expressed deep concern over the country’s deteriorating state, emphasizing the plight of political prisoners and calling for international solidarity.

Chamisa highlighted the plight of 78 political prisoners, including a one-year-old child, who have been detained for 45 days. These individuals, representing a broad spectrum of Zimbabwean society, were reportedly arrested on June 16, 2024, while celebrating Africa Youth Day. Their only “crime,” according to Chamisa, was exercising their constitutional right to freedom of association and expressing their political views.

Among the detained are prominent figures such as Namatai Kwekeza, a human rights defender; Samuel Gwenzi, a civil society member; Robson Chere, a trade unionist; and activists Promise Munkuli and Vusimuzi Moyo. The families of these detainees, along with many others, have been left in anguish, deprived of their loved ones who are advocating for a better Zimbabwe.

Particularly concerning is the case of Robson Chere, whose family and friends fear for his health following injuries sustained during his arrest. Chamisa emphasized that Chere’s advocacy was solely focused on improving the conditions for workers in Zimbabwe.

Bruce Moyo, a young councillor from Bulawayo, has also been detained, highlighting the broader crackdown on young people and activists. Chamisa lamented that in today’s Zimbabwe, being a conscious, active citizen—especially a young one—has become tantamount to a crime.

The former CCC leader’s post is a clarion call for unity and resistance against what he describes as an “assault and onslaught on the citizens.” Chamisa urges fellow citizens and progressive voices across the globe, including regional bodies like the Southern African Development Community (SADC), to condemn these violations of fundamental human rights.

Macheso Drops 3 Latest Songs This Morning, Though They All Sound The Same

By Showbiz Reporter | The Embarrassing Release of Alick Macheso: A Missed Opportunity in Musical Innovation

On an otherwise ordinary Tuesday morning, the Zimbabwean music scene was shaken, not by the anticipated rhythmic resonance of Alick Macheso’s new tracks (video at bottom of article) but by a wave of disappointment. Macheso, an iconic figure in Sungura music, dropped three of his latest songs, only for listeners to quickly realize they were strikingly similar—disturbingly so. Each track shared the same key and chord progression, leading many to wonder if this was a deliberate artistic choice or a significant oversight.

The Tracks: An Unfortunate Uniformity

Upon first listen, fans were eager to delve into the fresh offerings from Macheso, hoping for the innovative flair that has characterized much of his illustrious career. However, the uniformity between the three tracks quickly became apparent. The identical key and chord progression created a sense of monotony that left even the most loyal listeners underwhelmed. Instead of showcasing a dynamic range of musical prowess, the tracks felt repetitive, each failing to stand out from the others.

A Missed Opportunity for Creative Brilliance

In a country renowned for its rich pool of musical talent, the potential for these tracks to shine was immense. Zimbabwe is home to skilled sound engineers such as Oskid, Mono Mukundu, and Juso Dementor, whose expertise could have transformed these compositions into distinct, polished works of art. The fact that Macheso did not tap into this reservoir of talent is perplexing and disappointing.

Oskid, known for his sharp ear and modern production techniques, could have provided a fresh, contemporary edge to Macheso’s traditional sound. Mono Mukundu, with his deep understanding of the Zimbabwean music landscape and extensive experience, could have infused the tracks with a richer, more textured sound. Juso Dementor, bringing innovative flair and technical prowess, could have ensured that each track was uniquely memorable. The absence of such skilled hands on these tracks is glaring.

The Art of Professional Mixing and Mastering

Professional mixing and mastering are not just technical processes; they are crafts that can elevate a track from mediocrity to brilliance. In the case of Macheso’s releases, this crucial step seems to have been neglected. Proper mixing and mastering could have balanced the elements of the tracks, highlighting Macheso’s vocals and the instrumental nuances. Instead, the tracks felt flat and lifeless, lacking the vibrancy that professional production could have injected.

The reaction from fans has been mixed, but the prevailing sentiment is one of disappointment. Many took to social media to express their frustrations, noting that the tracks, albeit promising in raw form, did not meet the high standards they associate with Macheso. Some loyal fans, however, have chosen to view this as a rare misstep in an otherwise stellar career, hoping that future releases will return to the high-quality production they expect from the Sungura legend.

You did well but the sound and the mix engineering is awful. The person who did this for you is destroying you,” wrote one Sir Marist.

Alick Macheso’s release of three nearly identical tracks should be a lesson over the importance of diversity, innovation, and professional production in music. In a landscape rich with talent and potential, settling for anything less than excellence is a disservice not only to the artist but to the fans as well. This moment should be a catalyst for reflection and improvement. By engaging with top-tier sound engineers and embracing a more varied musical approach, Macheso can ensure that his future releases resonate with the dynamic energy and creativity that has long been his hallmark.

The Zimbabwean music scene, vibrant and ever-evolving, demands nothing less. VIDEO

Arrested Over Death Certificate Fraud

A Chiredzi man has been arrested for allegedly going behind his stepmother’s back to apply for his late father’s death certificate. The arrest follows accusations that he intended to exclude his stepmother’s children from inheriting their father’s estate.

The accused, Caspel Svinurai (45), faces charges brought against him by his stepmother, Jestina Gwandongwe. According to Gwandongwe, Svinurai’s actions were part of a calculated plan to ensure her two children were left out of their late father’s inheritance.

The legal proceedings are currently underway, presided over by Magistrate Vimbai Mutukwa. Svinurai, however, denies the allegations, including the claim that he applied for the death certificate. In a surprising twist, he also denied in court that his father, Matthew John Svinurai, was married to Gwandongwe, asserting that his father had informed him Gwandongwe had left to remarry another man.

The controversy began when Gwandongwe was summoned to the registrar’s office in Chiredzi to collect the death certificate. Upon review, she discovered the document listed her late husband’s marital status as “widower,” raising her suspicions and prompting her to file a police report.

Prosecutor Ellina Fatini detailed the State’s case, stating that on October 17, 2023, Svinurai visited the Registrar’s offices and applied for the death certificate, allegedly providing false information by claiming his father was not married and that his wife had passed away.

The case has sparked significant interest and concern within the community, as it touches on sensitive issues of family inheritance and legal integrity. The court will continue to hear testimonies and review evidence as the matter unfolds.

Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the ongoing investigation, but the case underscores the complexities and potential conflicts that can arise in family estates and the legal ramifications of misrepresentation.- Agencies

Magistrate Quashes Chimombe Freedom Bid

A Harare magistrate has quashed Harare businessman, Mike Chimombe’s application challenging placement on remand in a matter he is accused of corruptly using false documents to win a US$9,2 million lights tender in Harare.

In his ruling, the Harare magistrate noted that there is reasonable suspicion that Chimombe was involved in the alleged offence since his signature is appearing on the forged documents, hence he should be placed on remand.

Chimombe had argued that he has nothing to do with Juluka Projects and Plant Hire Private Limited and a purported South African company, ENNDO Lighting and Structural, which are the companies awarded the street lights tender by Harare City Council under the false impression they had the relevant paperwork.

Chimombe is jointly charged with Moses Mpofu, who is the managing director and major shareholder of Juluka Projects and Plant Hire Private Limited.

The two, who are charged with corruptly using false documents, have been remanded to the 22nd of this month.

Meanwhile, Harare City Council Town Clerk, Hosiah Chisango together with Artkins Mandaza, the Principal Contracts Administrator in the Procurement Management Unit who are facing criminal abuse of duty charges involving a US$9.2 million botched street lights deal, will have to wait a little longer in remand prison pending bail ruling.

The ruling was set for this Monday but the presiding magistrate had other commitments, hence postponement of the matter to this Wednesday for ruling.

The pair allegedly connived with four other council officials to illegally award a tender to Juluka Enndo Joint Venture, a company owned by Mpofu who is in custody on fraud charges and accusations of falsifying documents to win a street lights tender.

Let’s Fight Mnangagwa Regime Together, Sikhala Urges Citizens

Genesis Mangombe To Join Scott Sakupwanya Team

Former Dynamos coach Genesis ‘Kaka’ Mangombe is set to join ambitious Northern Region Soccer League side Scottland after leaving the struggling Harare giants yesterday.

Dynamos announced just before midnight, after a meeting which lasted hours, that the youthful coach tendered his resignation, which was “gracefully” accepted by the Moses Maunganidze-led executive.

“We wish to advise all our stakeholders that the club has gracefully accepted the resignation of Genesis Mangombe as head coach of Dynamos football club with immediate effect,” Maunganidze said in a statement.

“We want to thank Mr Mangombe for the services he rendered to the club and for all the achievements that the club attained during his tenure.”

The former Yadah coach is on his way to Scottland, with a well-placed source at the Pedzai ‘Scott’ Sakupwanya-owned side telling Soccer24 that Mangombe joining the promotion-chasing outfit is a question of when, not a matter of if.

“It’s all systems go, he (Mangombe) will join Scottland soon. He is definitely coming, it just a question when the deal will be complete,” said the source.-Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Divine Lunga To Join Wydad Casablanca?

More details have emerged on Wydad Casablanca’s reported pursuit of Divine Lunga.

The Warriors defender was last month linked with a move from Mamelodi Sundowns to the North African giants.

The report suggested that Lunga is among a couple of players wanted by recently appointed new Wydad coach Rulani Mokwena, on permanent transfer.

The left-back worked with Mokwena before at Sundowns.

And now, according to Soccer Laduma, the South African giants are open to release the Warriors international.

However, a potential move may be complicated by a looming FIFA ban that threatens to impact the Moroccan club’s ability to register new players.

Pastor Mboro Causes Havoc

South Africa- A Church belonging to a controversial local preacher, Pastor Mboro, was Tueseday torched by angry community members after he took part in a gang which was arrested for intimidating teachers with machetes and guns.

News24 reports that the church, known as Incredible Happenings, located just behind the Katlehong North police station, was also looted shortly before it was set alight.

Several pupils in school uniforms were seen running from the burning church, and law enforcement officers were present but did not intervene.

Pastor Mboro real name, Paseka Motsoeneng, was reportedly among four people who were arrested after a group of knife-wielding men intimidated teachers at a Katlehong school on Monday.

According to the Gauteng education department, in a series of shocking videos that have gone viral on social media, Motsoeneng is seen wielding machetes and threatening to attack teachers on the school premises.

Gauteng provincial education MEC Matome Chiloane, said:

Disturbingly, another man is seen grabbing two learners, who were caught in the crossfire of this violent ordeal, while another is wielding an assault rifle.

The department said that there had been a conflict between two families over the custody of boy learners enrolled at the school, in Grade RR and Grade 2.

It is alleged that the mother of the children passed away in April this year, leading to a dispute between the paternal and maternal sides of the family.

On Monday, the children’s father and the maternal grandmother, who is the alleged guardian of the children, met with the principal separately.

During the meeting, the grandmother reportedly told the principal that a conflict had occurred during a meeting held over the past weekend at the house of the paternal grandfather, that is Pastor Mboro. Reads the statement from the department:

Following this, the deputy principal and some staff members refused to release the children without the grandmother’s permission. This led to the pastor arriving at the school with bodyguards and weapons.

The incident unfolded on Monday afternoon after school when the father of the children came to fetch them, accompanied by two men, one of them being the pastor — who was armed with two pangas while the other carried an assault rifle.

Teachers, acting on the alleged instructions from the grandmother, tried to prevent the father from leaving the school premises with the children.

In response, the pastor brandished a panga threateningly at the teachers, allowing the father to leave with the children.

Explaining himself in the audio recording during a conversation between himself, the police, a ward councillor and the school staff at Katlehong North police station, Mboro said his son had gone to the school to pick up his children but was blocked by teachers.

He also alleged the teachers locked up and beat his son up. He said:

They were throwing stones at my son and while they were kicking him, I ran to fetch the panga.

If you know that your child is locked up and is being beaten, you go fetch a panga because you don’t want your son to use a firearm because once you use a firearm there will be a pointing case. I am ready to die for my son.

Gauteng police spokesperson, Colonel Noxolo Kweza, confirmed that the four were expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon. Said Kweza:

They are facing a variety of charges including assault, handling a firearm recklessly that could endanger lives and property, rendering security services while not registered, malicious damage to property and intimidation.

Kweza said the replica firearm and the pangas have since been confiscated.

Stanbic Bankrolls Jacaranda Music Festival

STANBIC BANK JACARANDA MUSIC FESTIVAL 2024 EDITION LAUNCHED

Harare, 06 August 2024 – Stanbic Bank will once again bankroll the country’s premier annual musical event, Stanbic Bank Jacaranda Music Festival which kicks off in October this year.

The Stanbic Bank Jacaranda Music Festival was launched at a glitzy event attended by the who’s who of the arts and entertainment industry in the capital yesterday.

Leading financial services institution, Stanbic Bank is once again the headline sponsor of the annual celebration of music and culture pencilled in for 4-6 October 2024 at the Thorn Park Polo grounds.

Stanbic Bank Head of Business and Commercial Banking, Patson Mahatchi, said the institution was proud to play a pivotal role in supporting artists in their quest to enrich the Zimbabwean culture and heritage.

Mahatchi noted that the festival has grown to become one of the premier music events in the region, attracting thousands of attendees from around the country and beyond.  Last year’s event attracted about 13 000 attendees, with tickets sold out.

“At Stanbic, we firmly believe that Zimbabwe is our home we drive her growth and at Group level we say, Africa is our home, and we drive her growth. Our commitment to this continent and our nation is unwavering. We are proud sponsors of the Stanbic Bank Jacaranda Music Festival as we recognize the vital role of artists in enriching our culture and heritage,” said Mahatchi.

He said local events such as the Stanbic Bank Jacaranda Music Festival not only serve as a form of entertainment but also play a crucial role in boosting tourism and showcasing Zimbabwe’s vibrant culture to the world.

Mahatchi said by supporting the festival, Stanbic Bank is also contributing to the country’s efforts towards employment creation as well as creating opportunities for the many individuals who will play a part in the whole value chain of the event.

“Our efforts extend beyond entertainment. We are driving economic and cultural development in Zimbabwe. The regional and international performances featured in this festival resonate with our inclusivity mantra, celebrating the diversity and unity of our continent,” said Mahatchi.

He noted that last year the Standard Bank Group subsidiary took a significant step to empower local musicians through workshops designed to build their capacities.

Mahatchi said this initiative continues again with a two-day workshop as part of the Stanbic Bank Jacaranda Music Festival.

“This workshop aims to conscientize musicians and other creative artists on how to achieve financial returns and benefits from their clients. At Stanbic Bank, we put innovation at the forefront and are always looking for solutions to specific industry challenges,” said Mahatchi.

By supporting initiatives such as the Stanbic Bank Jacaranda Music Festival, Mahatchi said, the institution is fostering a thriving arts community, promoting economic growth, and reinforcing its commitment to the development of Zimbabwe.

Stanbic Bank Jacaranda Music Festival organiser and Director of Ngoma neHosho, Walter Wanyanya applauded Stanbic Bank for recognising the importance of arts and culture in any country’s economic and social development.

Wanyanya said it was pleasing to note that Stanbic Bank was living up to its promise of making Zimbabwe and Africa its home by hosting the 2-day music business conference, a prelude to the main festival.

“We commend Stanbic Bank for providing a platform for industry professionals, artists and aspiring musicians to engage in panels, workshops and networking opportunities through the 2-day music business conference,” said Wanyanya.

Established in 2017, the festival has grown to become one of the premier music events in the region, featuring a diverse line up of musical performances as well as a food village with bespoke food vendors.

Wanyanya said the Stanbic Jacaranda Music Festival has a rich history of showcasing some of the best musical talent from across the region and beyond.

“The 2024 edition promises to continue this tradition, with a diverse line-up of performers representing a wide range of genres and a spotlight on some of Zimbabwe’s finest performers,” said Wanyanya.

Stop Brutality Now, Magaya Tells Mnangagwa

By A Correspondent

Prominent Zimbabwean cleric Bishop Ancelimo Magaya has called on Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa to halt the widespread persecution of those perceived as government opponents.

On Sunday, Bishop Magaya stated:

“The arrest of Namatai Kwekweza, Vusumuzi Moyo, Samuel Gwenzi, and Robson Chete on July 29, followed by their torture, represents acts of extreme brutality and callousness that must be condemned by all.

When the state becomes so paranoid and rogue that it fails to protect its citizens and guarantee their God-given rights, it reaches a critical juncture. Just as Belshazzar, King of Babylon, arrogantly assumed a ‘god complex’ and defiled sacred vessels, leading to the prophetic warning of his kingdom’s end (Daniel 5:1-6), today’s actions should serve as a defining moment. The imprisoned individuals, including those at Avondale 78, embody the image of God, which must not be violated for any reason.”

President Chamisa Exposes ED On Persecution of Activists | FULL TEXT

By Nelson Chamisa | ZIMBABWE MUST HAVE PROPER ELECTIONS AND FIX BROKEN POLITICS..

Following the discredited, illegal and disputed 2023 General Elections, Zimbabweans have not known normalcy or peace.

As of now, 78 families and a one-year old child are without their loved ones. This is because the 78 political prisoners hold different political views and dared to express themselves and exercise their freedom of association. On the 16th of June 2024, these political prisoners were celebrating Africa Youth Day before being forcibly taken to prison where they remain 45 days later.

In addition, the families of Namatai Kwekeza (a human rights defender), Samuel Gwenzi (Civil society), Robson Chere (trade unionist), Promise Munkuli and Vusimuzi Moyo are without their loved ones for no reason other than their association with wanting a better Zimbabwe, advocating for women, young people, workers and speaking out against injustices.

Robson Chere’s family and friends are faced with the additional burden of fearing for his health given the injuries sustained during his arrest. Robson only wants better for the workers who sustain Zimbabwe.

The family of Bruce Moyo, a young Councillor from Bulawayo is without him because of exercising his political freedom of association as a young citizen and council representative.

Many other people (young and old) are spending nights in the prison cells after being taken abruptly and brazenly for no crime but being targets for simply exercising their constitutional freedom of association.

In Zimbabwe, being an active conscious citizen and being young has become a crime. The citizens, especially the young people, are persecuted for their beliefs and for wanting better lives.
In Zimbabwe, it has been turned criminal to be young.
This assault and onslaught on the citizens is a clarion call for unity across political divide to condemn and rebuke these violations, violence and injustice.

Fellow citizens of @SADC_News and all African countries, this can’t be civilized politics. This is bizarre, abnormal and must be condemned by all progressives across the world.

Zimbabwe must be free and democratic. We the citizens and Our #Godisinit will save us. #NewDawn #NewPolitics #FreeThemAll

Leave Macheso Alone, Zimbabweans Tell Varakashi

By A Correspondent

Angry music fans in Zimbabwe have strongly rebuffed recent criticisms of sungura icon Alick Macheso by Zanu PF Varakashi. On Monday, Varakashi accused Macheso of not uploading his new album songs on YouTube and other social media platforms due to lack of data.

In response, irate fans took to social media to defend the legendary musician:

Isheanesu Chukucha commented:
“Macheso has already done more for the community by drilling boreholes where others, including Chivhayo and even ED, failed to provide water. Why criticize someone who is helping citizens selflessly? A person with dedicated fiber optic at home still cannot manage to afford a US$3 data package, yet he has invested over US$10,000 in community projects. The hatred against him is clear.”

Ovie Chicconto added:
“Macheso draws people from all walks of life to his performances, unlike those who wield guns and seek to intimidate. His work speaks for itself.”

Leo Karuu stated:
“We ask that you refrain from such attacks. Macheso, with his compassion and dedication to helping the Zimbabwean people, deserves our gratitude. He is not a politician but a musician who loves his country and its people, regardless of political affiliations.”

The strong support from fans underscores Macheso’s revered status in Zimbabwean society, contrasting sharply with the criticisms from Zanu PF Varakashi.

Masvingo Police Arrest Tourists Over S*x Toy

Masvingo – Authorities in Masvingo detained two international tourists on charges related to a sex toy and their grievances about local utilities.

Lucas Slavik from the Czech Republic faces allegations of spreading misinformation, while Tom Ssekamwa from Uganda is charged with possessing explicit material after a sex toy was discovered in his bag.

The two appeared in court at the Masvingo Magistrates’ Court, which was heavily attended by senior police officers and intelligence agents.

Magistrate Madzingo decided to keep the tourists in custody until Monday, despite their lawyer, Knowledge Mabvure of Chihambwakwe Law Chambers, arguing that the law concerning falsehoods had been repealed years ago.

The State was represented by prosecutor Makoni.

The Czech Republic Embassy is actively working to secure Slavik’s release.

During the arrest, police confiscated their laptops, cameras, a sex toy, passports, cash, and bags.

Mnangagwa Wants to Kill Me, Sikhala Claims

By A Correspondent

Outspoken opposition leader Job Sikhala has alleged that the Zanu PF regime is plotting to assassinate him.

In a statement posted on X over the weekend, Sikhala, known as Wiwa in political circles, asserted:

“The regime in Zimbabwe, through its mouthpieces, is now openly calling for my assassination.
I urge @commonwealthsec, @GenevaSummit, @daddyhope, @MmusiMaimane, @CyrilRamaphosa, @AUChair2020, @SADC_News, @Oolusegun_obj, @Iankhama, and @UNHumanRights to take note. This is the extent to which the democratic space is being throttled in my country. My only ‘crime’ is expressing the excesses of the criminal regime in Harare, and now they are calling for my death. It is time for the world to address the crisis we are facing as Zimbabweans. I call on @ZLHRLawyers, @crimewatchzw, @ibbosnr, @AfUncensored, and @kweyaG to stand in solidarity.”

Sikhala’s statement highlights the increasing repression faced by opposition figures in Zimbabwe and calls for international attention to the deteriorating human rights situation in the country.

Another Mugabe Ousted In People’s Coup

By Political Reporter- By Political Reporter
The Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, has fled the country and subsequently resigned following weeks of deadly demonstrations against her government.

Hasina’s resignation on Monday, after 15 years in power, came in the wake of violent protests that claimed nearly 300 lives.

Her departure appears to have averted further bloodshed in the Asian nation.

In a national address, army chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman announced that an interim government would now take over and called for calm.

Hasina’s aide told international news outlets that she boarded a military helicopter on Monday as massive crowds defied a national curfew to storm her palace in Dhaka.

She landed at Hindon Air Base near New Delhi aboard a Bangladesh Air Force aircraft.

Her resignation followed a night of deadly violence on Sunday that resulted in nearly 100 fatalities and led to the imposition of a curfew.

Reports indicated that huge crowds stormed the prime minister’s palace, preventing Hasina from delivering a scheduled speech.

At least 20 more people were killed during the violence in Dhaka as protesters stormed buildings.

By early afternoon, the mood on the streets had shifted to one of celebration as news of Hasina’s departure spread.

Bangladesh experienced many years of military rule in the 1970s and 1980s following its war of independence from Pakistan in 1971.

General Waker-Uz-Zaman sought to reassure the nation, urging citizens to trust the army.

“We will ensure that justice is served for every death and crime that occurred during the protests,” he said. “We have invited representatives from all major political parties, and they have accepted our invitation and committed to collaborating with us.”

The protests in Bangladesh began a month ago over a controversial government job quota scheme.

The government responded by shutting down universities and deploying police and military forces to crack down on protesters.

Hasina imposed a nationwide curfew and cut off access to phones and the internet, but the protests persisted.

The country’s top court ruled that the highly contested quotas should be reduced from 30 percent to 5 percent, with 3 percent reserved for relatives of veterans, but the protests continued unabated.

Mnangagwa Threatens To Beat Up Citizens

By A Correspondent| Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa has threatened citizens against staging protests during the forthcoming SADC Summit slated for 17 August in Harare saying he will deal with anyone who want to cause unrest in the country.

Speaking after commissioning the Holy Cross dam in the Midlands province last week, Mnangagwa labelled opposition activists as “tumhesvamukono” mischief makers.

We have been honoured by SADC to host all the 16 countries. We want peace, let’s show our visitors that we are peaceful. I have no doubt that we will provide our visitors with hospitality. We want peace so that we leave a legacy of peace. We have mischief makers who want to cause unrest in the country. Imi tumhesvamukono, ndichakusvasvangai zvekuti heki (You mischief-makers, I will deal with you decisively),” said Mnangagwa.

Prior to this threat, state security agents have been on a rampage arresting and detaining pro-opposition activists including Namatai Kwekweza, Samuel Gwenzi, Robson Chere and many others on trumped up charges.

Tribal Zanu PF Legislator, Deputy Minister Re-Sworn In

By A Correspondent| President Emmerson Mnangagwa has re-sworn in Deputy Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation Science and Technology Development, Honourable Simelisizwe Sibanda.

Sibanda caused a social media stir when he stocked a tribal storm when he humiliated a shona speaking ECD teacher for working in a Ndebele community.

After social media noise, Mnangagwa fired Sibanda but he later publicly apologized.

Mnangagwa later re-appointed Sibanda to the same portifolio he occupied after pardoning him.

Journalist Forced to Leave Zanu PF Meeting in Chinhoyi

By A Correspondent| Studio 7 news correspondent Nunurai Jena was ejected from a Mashonaland West Zanu PF inter-district meeting in Chinhoyi, sparking concerns over press freedom and the treatment of journalists in Zimbabwe

Jena was approached during the meeting by a member of the Zanu PF political commissariat, who informed him that his presence was not permitted.

The official cited Jena’s affiliation with Studio 7 as the reason for the expulsion. Notably, other private media representatives were allowed to remain, raising questions about selective enforcement of media access.

The incident has drawn sharp criticism from media rights organizations. MISA Zimbabwe, a prominent media watchdog, issued a statement condemning the actions taken against Jena. “Such harassment and intimidation of journalists are unacceptable and threaten the constitutional right to freedom of expression and media freedom,” the statement read.

MISA Zimbabwe emphasized the importance of allowing journalists to perform their duties without fear of reprisal and called on all stakeholders to respect the rights enshrined in the country’s Constitution.

The exclusion of Jena highlights ongoing challenges faced by journalists in Zimbabwe, where media practitioners often encounter barriers and hostility.

World Council of Churches Condemns Arrest and Torture of Zimbabwean Activists

By A Correspondent| The World Council of Churches (WCC) has issued a strong condemnation following the arrest and reported torture of four pro-democracy campaigners in Zimbabwe.

The activists—Namatai Kwekweza, Samuel Gwenzi, Robson Chere, and Vusumuzi Moyo—were reportedly apprehended at Robert Mugabe International Airport in Harare, forcibly removed from a plane, and subjected to severe torture. They were subsequently handed over to police authorities the next day.

This incident is part of a broader crackdown on civil society, coinciding with the upcoming Southern African Development Community (SADC) meeting set to begin in Harare on August 17.

The WCC has expressed deep concern over the shrinking space for civil society organizations in Zimbabwe, highlighting the increasingly repressive measures taken by the government against those advocating for democracy and human rights.

“The World Council of Churches condemns in the strongest terms all forms of torture and clampdown on civil society,” the WCC stated, urging Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa to address these violations. The organization emphasized that such actions undermine Zimbabwe’s constitution and violate international human rights laws.

The WCC’s statement underscores its long-standing commitment to the people of Zimbabwe, tracing back to its support for the country’s liberation from colonial rule through the WCC’s Programme to Combat Racism. “We stood with Zimbabweans in the past; we will stand with them today,” the WCC affirmed.

This call to action also echoes sentiments from the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC), which recently addressed the “politically fragile and polarized political environment” in the country during its 47th General Assembly. The ZCC urged the nation to recommit to constitutional principles and the rule of law, warning of the dangers posed by political instability.

The WCC has called on the SADC to play a proactive role in addressing the ongoing governance issues in Zimbabwe, which threaten not only the country’s stability but also that of the broader region. The organization concluded with a prayer for peace, freedom of speech, and the upholding of human rights and dignity in Zimbabwe.

As Zimbabwe faces critical challenges, the WCC’s call serves as a reminder of the international community’s watchful eye and its support for those fighting for justice and democratic freedoms

Zama Zama Ring Leader Shot Dead By Police

Ekurhuleni, August 5, 2024 — A dramatic police shootout in the Marathon informal settlement, Primrose, ended with the death of a notorious zama zama kingpin on Friday. The incident unfolded after local law enforcement, acting on an intelligence tip-off, identified a man in possession of firearms within the area.

According to police reports, the suspect opened fire upon noticing the approaching officers. This led to a fierce gunfight, during which the police successfully neutralized the threat, resulting in the suspect’s death. In the aftermath, authorities recovered a significant cache of ammunition and a rifle at the scene.

The deceased has been identified as a leading figure in the illegal mining community, commonly known as zama zama operations. This shootout marks a significant blow to criminal activities in the region. Further investigations are underway to determine the full extent of his operations and any potential connections to larger criminal networks.

Malema Party Official Gunned Down

In a tragic and shocking development, Moshe Mphahlele, a prominent PR Councillor for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has been gunned down. The incident was confirmed earlier today through the EFF Sub-Region group, sparking a wave of disbelief and sorrow among supporters and colleagues.

Mphahlele, a well-regarded figure from 10th Avenue in Alexandra (Alex), was noted for his selfless commitment to his role and his dedication to the values of the EFF. His untimely death has left the community and his fellow fighters in mourning, as they grapple with the loss of a leader who was widely respected for his dedication and service.

Details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting are still emerging, and authorities have yet to release an official statement. The EFF has called for calm and unity as they await further information and work to support Mphahlele’s family during this difficult time.

The news of Mphahlele’s death is a stark reminder of the often perilous nature of political life and the challenges faced by public figures in their commitment to their causes.

Church Leader Condemns Persecution Of Human Rights Activists

The arrest of Namatai Kwekweza, Vusumuzi Moyo, Samuel Gwenzi and Robson Chete on July
29 and their subsequent torture are acts of utter brutality and callousness that must be condemned
by all.

When the state becomes this paranoid and rogue, failing to protect its citizens and
guaranteeing their God given rights assuming a “god complex “then it is at such a historic juncture
that must be a defining moment. As Belshazzar (King of Babylon) flagrantly assumed that kind of
“god complex”, defiling the precious vessels in wanton display of power (Daniel 5 vs 1-6), the
finger from God wrote on the wall announcing the end of Belshazzar’s kingdom.

The arrested and
tortured young people together with the Avondale 78 wallowing in prison (among many) carry the
image of God that cannot be violated for any reason.

To the President, this is happening under your watch.

Any advisor (whether legal, political and
spiritual) close to your office who does not raise these issues of national concern does not
genuinely love and will be held accountable on the judgement day (Ezekiel 3 vs 18).

Unless real
spirit conviction driven repentance happens with attendant works showing such repentance on your
part we are deeply (out of love) concerned that the God that does not remain quiet in the face of
repressions may not forbear. This is written out of love for the nation.

We call for soul searching on our national leaders and the SADC Presidents.

It is not only ironic
that these violations are happening at a time that the Zimbabwean President is taking over SADC
chair, but that SADC has itself proceeded in handing over the chair to Zimbabwe (without calling
for dialogue) when its own observer mission condemned the elections as not free, fair and credible.

This is an untold huge puncture in the confidence of our African leaders.
Oh Lord Help!
What a contradiction.
Once again, we call for a genuine pro-people, all-inclusive dialogue to serve our country from
these cycles of traps.

FC Platinum Lose Top Spot as Castle Lager Premiership Drama Unfolds

Sports Correspondent

In an eventful Castle Lager Premiership Matchday 22, FC Platinum’s grip on the top spot was relinquished after a narrow 1-0 defeat to CAPS United. The solitary goal, scored by Wilfred Manondo in the 36th minute, was enough to shift the dynamics at the summit of the league table. With this result, FC Platinum dropped to second place, allowing Ngezi Platinum to climb to the top after their victory on Saturday.

The match also marked a notable debut for Cameroonian recruit Manuel Joseph Mbollo, who made his first appearance for CAPS United in this crucial encounter.

In another significant fixture, Dynamos continued their inconsistent run of form, drawing 1-1 against Bulawayo Chiefs.

The R8 Million Bull Is Originally From Zimbabwe

By Business Reporter – The Bull that was bought by a Hwedza-based farmer, Collins Tafireyi, for R8 million in South Africa was bred in Zimbabwe.

A cattle expert identified as Bothwell Chikombora revealed this information and said the father of that bull was killed by lightning two years ago in Zimbabwe.

He said before the father of the bull died, its sperm had been sold to a South African farmer whom Tafireyi bought the bull from.

The amount of money Tafireyi paid for the bull has raised several critical questions and concerns, especially considering the struggling economy of Zimbabwe.

The sheer amount spent on a single bull seems extravagant and imprudent.

Tafireyi made headlines over the weekend by purchasing a bull in South Africa for a staggering R8 million (US$444,000).

Tafireyi broke the auction record at the Hurwitz Farming Production Auction by acquiring a remarkable Boran Stud bull, Lot 10 Cyclone, for an unprecedented price.

The auction took place at Bull Ring Auction House and drew widespread attention within the cattle breeding community.

Tafireyi, a Boran breeder from Sinyo Boran Stud in Hwedza, Mashonaland East province, Zimbabwe, outbid his friend and neighbor, Rogers Sithole of Black Ox Farming, in a fiercely contested bidding war.

This record-setting acquisition marks a significant milestone for Tafireyi, who is only three years into the specialized cattle breeding business.

“This is not about the price; it’s about getting what I want,” Tafireyi said. “I’m building the biggest and best brands in Africa. Cyclone really caught my eye six months ago, and when he became available, I was determined to get him at any cost.”
While Tafireyi’s determination and ambition are evident, his purchase has raised several critical questions and concerns:

In a country where many citizens struggle to meet basic needs, such an extravagant expenditure on a bull appears disconnected from the economic realities faced by the majority.

This disparity can provoke public discontent and raise questions about the sources of such wealth.

The origin of the funds used for this purchase warrants scrutiny.

In a nation with prevalent economic challenges, the ability to spend US$444,000 on a bull could suggest access to substantial and potentially questionable financial resources.

While Tafireyi emphasizes the importance of genetics and future potential, the immediate tangible benefits of such an investment are not clear.

The long-term gains from improved genetics must be critically evaluated against the immediate financial outlay, especially in a volatile economic environment.

This high-profile purchase may affect public perception of the agricultural sector and the individual involved.

It could either inspire other breeders to invest similarly in high-quality genetics or provoke backlash against perceived elitism and misallocation of resources.

While the acquisition of Cyclone may signify a strategic investment in the future of cattle breeding in Zimbabwe, it also raises critical questions about economic priorities, financial transparency, and the broader implications of such an expenditure in a struggling economy.

Tafireyi’s bold move underscores the complexities and contradictions inherent in investing large sums in specialized livestock breeding amid widespread economic hardship.

WestProp Unveils State-Of-Art Apartments

By Business Reporter- TRENDSETTING Westprop Holdings is introducing the first ever apartments north of Harare Drive at the US$4 billion Pomona City, dubbed “ a city within a city” because of its mixed-use features which combine residential, commercial and recreational, creating a mini-city within its ecosystem.

The apartments are part of the package for the live, work, shop and play-themed gated estate, which comes with a shopping mall, schools, churches, recreational facilities, office complexes and a mixed-use tower building.

Construction of the 24 blocks of walk-up flats comprising 384 units begins this year and is a “deliberate response to middle income accommodation”.

The four-floor apartments will be built in phases 1, B, and C. They will have 1 and 2 bedrooms with options to make some of them three-roomed depending on market demands.

Westprop Holdings CEO Mr Ken Sharpe is upbeat with the upcoming development, describing it as “a game-changer in providing accommodation and in helping reduce the housing unit backlog”.

“We have listened to the market and understood its needs. We are going ahead with the construction of the apartments at Pomona City to address the growing housing demand,” he said.
“There will be lots of activity at Pomona. Very soon people who bought into phase 1A will start erecting their buildings while those in phase 1B and C are already doing so,” said Mr Sharpe.

The requisite offsite services for the apartments’ site is already available while in phase 1 roads construction is underway.

Chief Projects Officer Mr Mandla Ndebele has previously indicated that because of the asphalt roads being constructed Pomona City will be “the best place to live and enjoy street driving”.

Pomona City is a gated community providing a secure and private environment for its residents setting it apart from its neighbours.

Chief Operating officer Mrs Tatiana Ellis says Pomona stands out from other developments because it has its own urban plan that includes roads, public spaces and utilities which further reinforces its “City within a City” status.

Key infrastructure such as the Pomona US$630k multi-purpose gatehouse is already operational together with water storm drains and water reticulation.

The lifestyle community development combines use of technology, communal living spaces and unique social amenities that differentiate the estate from the traditional suburban designs.

The social amenities are exclusively reserved for the owners of properties to preserve privacy and uphold value.

$444,000 Bull Purchase When $20 Was Enough for More Than One

By Farai D Hove | Harare, August 2, 2024 – The recent purchase of a Boran Stud bull for a staggering USD 444,000 by Zimbabwean cattle rancher Collins Tafireyi has sparked widespread controversy and criticism within the agricultural community. Experts argue that this expenditure is not only extravagant but also an egregious waste of resources.

An agronomist told ZimEye that “the Zimbabwean who has paid USD 444,000 for a South African bull could have paid a paltry USD 20 for a bottle of sperm from the same bull.” This revelation highlights the impracticality of Tafireyi’s investment, suggesting that the same genetic benefits could have been achieved at a fraction of the cost.

Even if Tafireyi wanted the very same bull, industry records indicate that he could have paid no more than USD 15,000. This casts a cloud of mystery over why Tafireyi decided to spend almost half a million American dollars for a single bull, raising questions about his financial judgment and motivations.

The stud herd has been in Zimbabwe since the Rhodesian days, and superior bulls are readily available across the country within the large population of the Goran bull society. This fact further underscores the unnecessary nature of Tafireyi’s purchase, as better and more cost-effective options are available locally.

Critics argue that Mr. Tafireyi’s decision to externalize such a substantial amount of money on a bull that is already domesticated across Zimbabwe is not only illogical but also detrimental to the local agricultural economy. The funds spent on this bull could have been better utilized to support local breeding programs, improve infrastructure, or invest in modern farming technologies.

As ZimEye prepares to interview Mr. Tafireyi, scores of farmers have published various opinion pieces slamming him for what they perceive as a reckless and wasteful expenditure. Many in the agricultural community are baffled by Tafireyi’s decision, seeing it as an unnecessary extravagance that benefits neither his business nor the broader industry.

“This is not about the price; it’s about getting what I want,” Tafireyi stated, defending his purchase. However, his justification does little to mitigate the concerns raised by experts and fellow farmers who view this as a glaring misuse of funds.

The auction at Hurwitz Farming Production Auction at Bull Ring Auction House, where Tafireyi made his record-breaking purchase, is a prominent event in the cattle breeding industry. While it attracts buyers and Boran enthusiasts from far and wide, Tafireyi’s lavish spending has overshadowed the auction’s achievements and shifted focus to the impracticality of his investment.

The controversy surrounding this purchase highlights the importance of making informed and judicious financial decisions in the agricultural sector. Investing in top-quality genetics is crucial, but doing so within reasonable financial limits is equally important to ensure sustainability and growth.

In conclusion, Collins Tafireyi’s USD 444,000 expenditure on a single bull appears to be an extravagant and wasteful decision, especially given the availability of more cost-effective alternatives. The agricultural community continues to question the rationale behind this purchase, urging a more prudent approach to such significant financial commitments in the future.

Macheso Humiliates Mnangagwa Minister

By Showbiz Reporter- Sungura music maestro Alick Macheso has exposed Youth minister Tino Machakaire for lying.

Macheso Friday night blasted Machakaire for promising him a truck two years ago.

Machakaire has not delivered the truck he promised.

Macheso spoke out after Machakaire had just gifted him with US$ 10,000 at his new album launch.

“I have come from far promoting him. I am a businessman. He is my best man, I love you. Mai Shero, Baba Shero, I love you. So all Baba Shero fans, let us show everyone that we are a team. Let us switch on our [mobile phone] torches and salute Baba Shero,” said Machakaire.
Macheso then said : “Pano apa ndangopiwa mathousand asi vakandivimbisa kuti rori riri munzira ririkuuya [Here I have just been given thousands [of US dollars], but he promised me a [haulage] truck?].”
Flustered the minister said: “Vanonyora musanyore zvekunyepa, Baba Shero ishamwari yangu. Rori ravo ririkuuya asi handisi kutaura pano apa. [Journalists, don’t write lies. Baba Shero is my friend. His truck is on its way, but I don’t mean right here.”

Massive Corruption Unearthed in Harare City Council: Mavaza

Harare’s Dirty Little Secret: A Billion Dollar Mess – Millions Diverted to Fund Opposition Political Party-

By Ilyana Sithole and Dr. Masimba Mavaza | The ongoing City of Harare Commission of Inquiry has revealed a staggering pattern of corruption and mismanagement within the City of Harare’s procurement department, based on testimony from the Acting Auditor General. The city council’s actions have been shrouded in secrecy, but the Commission has uncovered evidence pointing to a massive cover-up and opposition political involvement.

Dr Masimba Mavaza

At the heart of the scandal lies the city’s procurement process, a system so flawed that it has allowed for the unchecked pilfering of millions of dollars. The city council’s attempt to do direct procurement, despite being turned down by the Special Procurement Oversight Committee, raises serious questions about its commitment to transparency and accountability. Through unauthorized deals, the City Council has lost millions, which can be traced right to the CCC doorsteps.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The testimony reveals a complex web of corruption that goes all the way to the top of the City Council. Rufaro Marketing, a subsidiary of the city council, was used as a slush fund to finance the opposition party, Citizens for Coalition Change (CCC). Properties were disposed of without transparency, and the company was not audited during the tenure of its former CEO, Daniel Mutiwadirwa. City council recreational properties, like football grounds, were subdivided into small tuck-shops for CCC councillors.

The rot goes even deeper. The city’s financial management system collapsed in 2019, and there has been no credible financial reporting system since then. The city’s subsidiaries, including Sunshine Holdings, City Parking, and Rufaro Marketing, have not had their financial statements consolidated, making it impossible to track the flow of money. Millions of US dollars are unaccounted for as no financial books were ever inspected.

But what’s even more alarming is the city council’s brazen disregard for the law. The city borrowed $32.5 million without Ministerial approval, a clear violation of the Urban Councils Act. And when questioned about it, the city council’s response was deafening silence. The borrowed $32 million is now missing.

The Commission has learned that the city council’s actions have been shrouded in secrecy, with key documents and information withheld from the public. Through evidence presented during the hearings, the Commission uncovered a trail of evidence pointing to a massive cover-up.

### Key Findings:
– The city council extended its use of a temporary enterprise resource planning system from 12 months to 36 months without authorization.
– The city council recommended a company, Manisoft, for a contract worth $47 million, despite having a budget of only $500,000, putting ratepayers in unreasonable debt. The company has strong links to the opposition.
– The city council’s finance and audit committees lacked basic financial and accounting skills to perform their oversight role effectively.
– The city council borrowed $32.5 million without Ministerial approval, and the money cannot be accounted for. The city’s finance books resemble a dog’s breakfast.
– Rufaro Marketing was used as a slush fund to finance the opposition party, CCC.
– Properties were disposed of without transparency and sold or rented to CCC officials at little or no cost.
– The city’s financial management system collapsed in 2019, with no measures put in place to protect and track public funds.
– There has been no credible financial reporting system since 2019.
– The city council’s procurement department has been operating without a functional general ledger since 2019, and millions of dollars cannot be accounted for. The city council’s bank accounts have not been reconciled since 2019.
– The city council’s asset register is incomplete and inaccurate.

Perhaps the most egregious aspect of this scandal is the city council’s decision to fund a political party with ratepayers’ money. What could possibly justify using public funds to finance a political party? Is this not a clear violation of the public’s trust?

Meanwhile, the residents of Harare continue to suffer. The city’s infrastructure is crumbling, with potholed roads, burst pipes, and uncollected trash. The healthcare system is in shambles, with hospitals lacking basic medical supplies. The education system is underfunded, with schools lacking textbooks and qualified teachers.

And yet, the city council sees fit to use public funds to finance a political party. It’s a staggering display of misplaced priorities and a clear indication that the city council is more interested in serving its own interests than those of the people of Harare.

“The people of Harare deserve better. They deserve transparency, accountability, and a city council that serves their interests, not just the interests of a select few. It’s time for a full investigation into the city’s procurement department to uncover the extent of the corruption and mismanagement. Those responsible must be held accountable for their actions,” commented Harare resident Masimba Machando.

The Commission is not yet done with this inquiry. Many more acts of theft, sabotage, fraud, and thuggery in the City of Harare are expected to be revealed as the inquiry progresses.

Sei Muchifananidza Macheso Nezvinhu Zvisina Basa?

By Music Fans-The recent comparison between Aleck Macheso and Mark Ngwazi has sparked debate, with some suggesting that Macheso could learn from the newcomer. However, this view fails to recognize the vast differences in their careers and contributions to Zimbabwean music.
Aleck Macheso, born in 1968, is a celebrated figure in Zimbabwean music, known for his innovative and influential career. His journey began with his debut album Magariro in 1998, which featured hits like “Pakutema Munda” and “Baba naMai.” Macheso’s ability to blend lyrical genius with impressive guitar skills and dynamic dance moves set him apart from his peers. His 2000 album Simbaradzo, which included tracks like “Mundikumbuke” and “Mai Varubhi,” remains the best-selling album in Zimbabwean history, solidifying his status as a music legend.
Macheso’s influence extends beyond his music. He popularized the Borrowdale dance, a staple of Sungura music, and has been a mentor to many young artists. Despite facing personal and professional challenges, including a highly publicized divorce and accusations of unconventional practices, Macheso has remained a resilient figure in the industry. His philanthropic efforts, such as annual benefit concerts for Chitungwiza General Hospital, further underscore his commitment to his community.
Mark Ngwazi, who entered the music scene in 2017, has quickly gained recognition with his unique sound and compelling lyrics. Despite being relatively new, Ngwazi has shown immense talent, earning him the title of the “king of Sungura” by some fans. However, with only four albums, Ngwazi’s career is still in its early stages compared to Macheso’s decades-long influence.
Ngwazi’s potential is undeniable, but it is premature to compare him directly to Macheso. While he has the talent and drive to leave a significant mark on the music industry, he needs time to build a legacy that can stand alongside Macheso’s.
Comparing Aleck Macheso and Mark Ngwazi is not only unfair but also overlooks the substantial contributions each has made to Zimbabwean music in their own right. Macheso’s long-standing career and mentorship have shaped the industry, while Ngwazi represents the future of Sungura. Both artists deserve recognition for their unique contributions without being pitted against each other. Celebrating their individual achievements will enrich the music scene and inspire future generations.

Sikhala Pleads With Zimbabweans Over State Onslaught Against Opposition Activists

Former Zengeza West legislator Job Sikhala has pleaded with Zimbabweans to make noise about incarcerated opposition activists and pro-democracy campaigners saying the country was under siege from the Zanu PF regime.

Posting on X, Sikhala said Zimbabweans can help by tweeting to demand their release from pre-trial incarceration.

Below is Sikhala’s message;

Plea to every Zimbabwean of good moral standing:We might be preoccupied with our daily challenges and commitments as individuals, but I come before you with humility and a heavy heart.

Our nation is under siege from a criminal regime that is crushing every dissenting voice. Since the arrest of Jameson Timba and the Avondale 78, there has been escalation of repression throughout the country against all political, social, and human rights activists.

An operation to hunt down all known opposition activists throughout the country has been put in motion. No province, district, or ward is going to be spared without being persecuted because of @SADC_News Summit that will be held in two weeks’ time.

I plead to men and women whose conscience despises evil to spare some few minutes daily to twit about the plight of our brothers and sisters who are fighting for the good of our nation who are currently under lock and key, that is, Jameson Timba and 78 others, Robson Chere, Namatai Kwekweza, Vusi Moyo. Jacob Ngarivhume and others. Just a twit demanding their release and lamentation against the injustices and persecution that has visited our nation.

History will remember you, that you were not silent on the face of the injustice we are facing collectively as a nation. I thank you my brothers and sisters!!!

Auxillia Mnangagwa Namedroppers Denied Bail

Gerald Saidi (39) who is a lawyer, Lovejoy Mujali (35), Nigel Chimbwanda (39), Nathan Gowoko (33), and Timothy Gowo (37) appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court on allegations of fraud.

Count 1
Allegations are that in 2022 the accused persons connived to defraud the complainant, Andrew Sean Baker who is a property developer. Pursuant to their plan, they offered him a vacant stand in Kuwadzana for USD1 700 000. Some time between May and October 2022 the complainant paid for the stand in full through the first accused person’s law firm. He also paid USD51 000 in Capital Gains Tax and about USD65 000 for transfer fees. The accused persons gave him fake receipts and documents from the relevant government and council offices. In 2024 the complainant proceeded to Kuwadzana with the intention of fencing the stand. He was stopped from making any developments by the residents who claimed that the land belonged to them. The total value defrauded was USD1 816 000 and nothing was recovered.

Count 2
Further allegations are that the accused persons misrepresented that there was another piece of land in Marlborough which was going for USD2 000 000. The complainant paid the amount in full some time between January and June 2023. He also paid USD100 000 in Capital Gains Tax and USD78 800 as transfer fees. On the 22nd of July 2024 a criminal trespass report was filed against the complainant for trespassing on the Marlborough land. The total value defrauded was USD2 178 000 and nothing was recovered.

Count 3
The accused persons also manipulated the complainant into purchasing a Toyota Land Cruiser which was purported to be a donation to a charity organization. The Toyota Land Cruiser was recovered from a car sale where it was up for sale. The total value defrauded was USD100 000 and all was recovered.

The accused persons were denied bail and will appear in court on the 27th of August 2024.

Foreigner Arrested for Possession Of Bedroom Toy

In a controversial move highlighting Zimbabwe’s stringent censorship laws, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Masvingo arrested two foreign tourists yesterday. The charges stem from the possession of a sex toy and complaints about water shortages and power outages, actions deemed “indecent” and harmful to public morals under the country’s “censorship and entertainments control” law.

Lucas Slavik from the Czech Republic faces charges of spreading falsehoods, while Tom Ssekamwa from Uganda is accused of possessing pornographic material after a sex toy was found in his bag. Both were brought before the Masvingo Magistrates Court today, which was notably packed with senior police officers and CIO operatives.

Despite defense lawyer Knowledge Mabvure of Chihambwakwe Law Chambers arguing that the law on falsehoods had been repealed years ago, Magistrate Madzingo remanded the two men in prison until Monday. The State, represented by Makoni, contends that Slavik’s actions disrupted public order.

The Mirror reports that the Czech Republic Embassy is making urgent efforts to secure Slavik’s release. Police have confiscated the tourists’ laptops, cameras, passports, cash, and bags.

The incident began when Slavik, staying at Back Packers Lodge in Masvingo, was disturbed by noise from mourners outside. Upon investigating and recording the scene, he commented on the lack of water and electricity, and the rising prices in Zimbabwe. This video led to his arrest for allegedly spreading falsehoods. Ironically, during the court proceedings, the power outage in the courtroom drew laughter when Mabvure queried if stating the court had no electricity constituted a falsehood.

Following Slavik’s arrest, police discovered a sex toy in Ssekamwa’s bag at the lodge, leading to his arrest under laws that classify such items as “indecent” and “obscene.”

This case underscores the harsh realities of Zimbabwe’s censorship laws, where owning a sex toy can result in imprisonment, reflecting the stringent measures imposed to maintain public morals.- Agencies

Is ED About To Drop Dead? Why Are ZANU Provinces Stampeding To Endorse Him?

Dangers of Unanimous Political Endorsement

By Dorrothy Moyo | ZimEye | In any democratic society, the health and vibrancy of the political landscape depend on a diverse range of opinions and the open debate of ideas. However, when an entire community converges to uncritically endorse a single politician as if they are the sole thinker or savior, several significant dangers can arise:

  1. Erosion of Democratic Principles: Democracy thrives on diversity of thought and competition of ideas. When a single politician is universally endorsed, it can stifle dissent, marginalize minority opinions, and undermine the democratic process that relies on checks and balances.
  2. Cult of Personality: Elevating a politician to a near-messianic status can lead to the formation of a cult of personality. This phenomenon can cloud public judgment, making it difficult for citizens to critically evaluate the politician’s policies and actions. It can also lead to an environment where the politician is above criticism, which is dangerous for accountability.
  3. Suppression of Opposing Views: A society that rallies entirely behind one political figure often discourages or outright suppresses opposing views. This can lead to censorship, self-censorship, and a lack of open discourse, which are critical for a healthy democracy.
  4. Risk of Authoritarianism: Unquestioned support for a single politician can pave the way for authoritarianism. When one leader is perceived as infallible, they may be tempted to consolidate power, bypass democratic institutions, and erode civil liberties.
  5. Polarization and Division: While unanimity might seem like a sign of unity, it can actually deepen divisions within a society. Those who disagree may feel alienated and marginalized, leading to social fragmentation and increased polarization.
  6. Stifling Innovation and Progress: A single perspective dominating political discourse can hinder innovation and progress. Diverse viewpoints and healthy debate are essential for addressing complex societal issues and finding effective solutions.
  7. Economic and Social Instability: The concentration of political power in one individual can lead to decisions that are not in the best interest of the broader society. This can result in economic mismanagement, social unrest, and instability.
  8. Loss of Trust in Institutions: When the populace places its faith entirely in a single politician, it can undermine trust in democratic institutions such as the judiciary, the press, and the legislature. This can weaken the very foundations of governance and the rule of law.

While strong leadership is important, it is equally crucial to maintain a balanced and critical perspective. Citizens should be
to engage in open dialogue, question their leaders, and support a plurality of voices within the political landscape. By fostering an environment where multiple viewpoints can coexist and be debated, societies can safeguard their democratic values and ensure sustainable and inclusive progress.

Active civic participation, education, and a free press are vital components in preventing the concentration of power and maintaining a healthy democracy. Citizens must be vigilant and proactive in demanding transparency and accountability from their leaders. Encouraging a culture of critical thinking and respect for differing opinions will help to prevent the dangers associated with the unanimous endorsement of a single political figure.

Ultimately, the strength of a democracy lies in its ability to embrace diversity, encourage debate, and remain resilient in the face of challenges. By recognizing and addressing the potential dangers of unanimous political endorsement, society can protect its democratic principles and promote a more just and equitable future for all.

Mnangagwa Doomed

By A Correspondent

Zimbabwean opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has forecasted the end of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s regime.

Chamisa, known for his eloquent and poetic style, addressed his political rival in a statement on Saturday.

Drawing from biblical imagery, Chamisa remarked, “THE TEMPORARINESS OF ALL WICKEDNESS… I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a native green tree. Yet he passed away, and behold, he was no more; indeed I sought him, but he could not be found.”

He referenced Psalm 37:35-36 to emphasize his belief that no power, however formidable, is permanent. Chamisa concluded with a message of hope, “Sabbath blessings!”

Mnangagwa Performs Duties Of A Ward Councillor

By A Correspondent

Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has proudly announced the reconstruction of the Holy Cross Dam in Chirumanzu, a project he claims as a significant achievement of his administration.

The dam, which had collapsed in 2007, was officially recommissioned on Friday.

In his statement, Mnangagwa highlighted the importance of the dam, stating, “Today, I had the honour of commissioning the rebuilt Holy Cross Dam in Chirumanzu District.

This vital infrastructure has been reconstructed to benefit our community by providing water for irrigation, drinking, and agriculture.”

Mnangagwa positioned this project within the broader context of his Vision 2030, underscoring its role in improving food security and stimulating economic activities.

The dam is expected to support local schools, a hospital, and businesses, contributing to regional development.

Despite the President’s enthusiastic endorsement, some observers argue that commissioning such a project is a task that could be handled at a local government level, such as by a Councillor.

Nonetheless, Mnangagwa’s announcement reflects his ongoing commitment to infrastructure development and his vision for a prosperous Zimbabwe.

Mnangagwa Apologist Says Kalimbwe Is A Nobody In Zambia

By Taurai Kandishaya

I’m currently in Zambia, celebrating President ED Mnangagwa’s new role as SADC chairman.

The excitement here is truly amazing, and I’ve had the chance to discuss this landmark event on two of Zambia’s major TV stations, Muvi TV and Diamond TV. Both channels have done a fantastic job capturing the enthusiasm and joy of this moment.

While here, I’ve discovered something interesting.

Joseph Kalimbwe, who has been making bold claims about his influence, is actually not known in Zambia. After talking with journalists from major media outlets, it’s clear that ‘no one here knows him’.

His supposed influence appears to be a fabrication by some groups in Zimbabwe, pushing their own agendas.

One such agenda is the suggestion to move the SADC Summit from Zimbabwe; an idea that reflects a schoolboy’s understanding of diplomacy.

This suggestion not only reveals a lack of basic diplomatic knowledge but also raises a red flag about the credibility of those behind it. Many Zambians find this proposal both surprising and amusing!

For Zimbabweans, it’s essential to realize that engaging with Joseph Kalimbwe does not translate to engaging Zambians.

His opinions do not reflect the sentiments of the Zambian people. Given this situation, it’s important to set the record straight.

I challenge Kalimbwe to a public debate here in Zambia. Let’s clarify the facts and address any misinformation.

CIO Rounds Up Foreigners In Masvingo

By Political Reporter- State security agents in Masvingo last week rounded up two foreign nationals and arrested them from their lodgings.

One of the foreigners had complained about water shortages and load shedding in the town.

Lucas Slavik, a national from the Czech Republic, and Tom Ssekamwa from Uganda were charged with spreading falsehoods and possessing pornographic material, respectively.

The two appeared in a packed courtroom at Masvingo Magistrates on Friday, attended by senior police officers and CIO operatives.

Despite their lawyer, Knowledge Mabvure of Chihambwakwe Law Chambers, arguing that the law pertaining to falsehoods had been repealed years ago, Magistrate Madzingo remanded them in custody until Monday.

Makoni stood in for the State.

The Mirror understands that the Czech Republic Embassy is making frantic efforts to secure the release of its citizen.

Police confiscated the men’s laptops, cameras, a sex toy, passports, cash, and bags.

According to the State, Slavik, who was staying at Back Packers Lodge in Masvingo, was disturbed by riotous noise outside.

Upon investigating, he discovered it was a group of mourners whose relative had been run over by a vehicle.

Slavik began recording a video in which he stated that Zimbabwe lacks water and electricity and that prices are rising.

Police officers saw and arrested him, charging him with spreading falsehoods based on the recording.

Ironically, the courtroom where Slavik appeared had no power, leading his lawyer to ask the magistrate, “Would it be a falsehood if he says there is no electricity in court?”—prompting laughter from the courtroom.

Mabvure also informed the magistrate that Masvingo had been without water for several days and electricity for 12 hours.

After arresting Slavik, police went to the lodge and found a sex toy in Ssekamwa’s bag, leading to his arrest.

Zim Farmer Attacked For Buying A Bull For R8 Million

South Africa – The purchase of a bull for R8 million by a Zimbabwean farmer, Collins Tafireyi, has raised several critical questions and concerns, especially considering the struggling economy of Zimbabwe.

The sheer amount of money spent on a single bull seems extravagant and potentially imprudent.

Another Wicknell Chivhayo Style As Zim Farmer Buys A Bull For US$500 000 In SA

By Business Reporter | Davel, Mpumalanga, South Africa– Zimbabweans have questioned the logic behind the purchase of a bull in South Africa for a staggering R8 million (US$444,000 by Zimbabwean cattle rancher Collins Tafireyi.

Tafireyi broke the auction record at the weekend by purchasing a remarkable Boran Stud bull, Lot 10 Cyclone, for an unprecedented ).

The Hurwitz Farming Production Auction took place at Bull Ring Auction House.

Tafireyi, a Boran breeder from Sinyo Boran Stud in Hwedza, Mashonaland East province, Zimbabwe, outbid his friend and neighbor, Rogers Sithole of Black Ox Farming, in a fiercely contested bidding war. “This is not about the price; it’s about getting what I want,” said Tafireyi. “I’m building the biggest and best brands in Africa. Cyclone really caught my eye six months ago, and when he became available, I was determined to get him at any cost.”
The Hurwitz Farming auction is a prominent event in the cattle breeding industry, attracting buyers and Boran enthusiasts from far and wide. Hurwitz Farming, with nearly 30 years of involvement in the Boran breed, is one of the pioneers of this breed in South Africa.
Intense Battle and Investment in Genetics
During the auction, Tafireyi’s determination was evident. “I spoke with Rogers last night about the investment,” he said. “We knew it was going to be a tough battle, but I was prepared.”
Rogers Sithole, who also made significant purchases at the auction, acknowledged the quality of the cattle on offer. “The quality of the cattle today was amazing. Collins bought an incredible bull, one of the most perfectly bred I’ve ever seen. We continue to invest in good genetics to improve our stock.”
The auction highlighted the importance of investing in top-quality genetics for the improvement of cattle breeds. “It’s not just about the money; it’s about the potential for the future,” said Sithole. “We are excited about the possibilities this brings to our breeding programs.”
The Future of Cattle Breeding in Zimbabwe
Tafireyi’s purchase is expected to have a significant impact on the cattle breeding industry in Zimbabwe. “Our goal is to elevate the cattle breeding standards in Zimbabwe,” he explained. “We aim to transform our cattle industry into one of the best on the continent by investing in top genetics and knowledge sharing.”
Hurwitz Farming’s high standards and successful auction have set a new benchmark for the industry. “The bar has been set very high,” said Sithole. “We look forward to seeing what they will do next year, but for now, we are focused on bringing these top genetics home and improving our herds.”
As the auction concluded, it was clear that the investments made by Tafireyi and Sithole are poised to bring significant advancements to the cattle breeding industry in Zimbabwe and beyond. “We are committed to making Zimbabwe a home for the best Boran cattle,” Tafireyi said. “This is just the beginning.”

War of Words Erupts Over Alick Macheso’s Latest Song Release

By Showbiz Reporter | Alick Macheso’s latest song release has ignited a heated debate among fans, with strong opinions being expressed on social media. The comments reflect a variety of perspectives on the new track.

Prince Tembo Chakuringa:
“I am a true fan of Macheso, but here the boss poured water especially on the vocals, and then you say that there will be something you will love when you are listening to the guitar when Jonas comes in and the whole song is arranged.”

Cheso poster

Tafadzwa Challenge:
“Prince Tembo Chakuringa, tell me about the atomic bombers in Japan and at the same time why put the skis for the live show in the Studio, Mike, Maikoro 5 times and the guitar dialed ummmm haaa the boss is talking.”

Hope Suit:
“Tafadzwa Chanetsa, the way I enjoyed that song, so it means to enjoy it differently. You chimbo do about popo popo Sungura belongs to us adults.”

Alfred Repent:
“Prince Tembo Chakuringa, give yourself time to listen to all the songs.”

The passionate exchange highlights the strong emotions and differing opinions among Macheso’s fan base regarding his latest musical offering.

In terms of performance, Alick Macheso’s recent work has been a subject of intense scrutiny. While some fans praise the innovative guitar arrangements and the intricate layering of sounds, others feel that his vocals fell short of their expectations. Macheso’s ability to fuse traditional Sungura rhythms with contemporary elements continues to draw admiration, yet this experimentation also seems to divide his audience. The interplay of traditional and modern musical techniques in his new release is indicative of an artist attempting to evolve within his genre, but the mixed reactions suggest a challenge in balancing innovation with the established musical identity that long-time fans cherish.

Mnangagwa Boasts of Reconstructing Holy Cross Dam

George Charamba Has Unleashed Thugs To Kill Me

CCC Heavyweight Prince Dubeko Sibanda Alleges Threats from Presidential Spokesman George Charamba

Harare, Zimbabwe – August 4, 2024

By Farai D Hove | ZimEye | In an early Sunday morning tweet, Prince Dubeko Sibanda, a prominent figure in Zimbabwe’s opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) and former Member of Parliament, has publicly accused George Charamba, the presidential spokesperson, of orchestrating a terror campaign against him.

Sibanda made these allegations via a post on social media, where he directly addressed Charamba, known on social media as @dhonzamusoro007. In his post, Sibanda claimed that Charamba had dispatched thugs to various locations, including Harare (Hre), Bulawayo (Byo), and Victoria Falls (Vic Falls), with the intent to harm him.

“I have seen all the thugs you have unleashed to kill me,” Sibanda’s post read. “They’ve been all over, Hre, Byo, Vic Falls. I told them to go back to the sender. Meanwhile, I am in Hre. Tell me when you are free for a man-to-man fight. I can meet you at Karigamombe building.”

The social media post was accompanied by a stern photograph of Sibanda, highlighting the seriousness of his allegations. This accusation has sparked immediate concern among his supporters and the broader public, raising alarms over the state of political safety and freedom in Zimbabwe.

In response, ZimEye suggested a more peaceful resolution, proposing that Charamba should apologize to Sibanda. “On another note, your jokes do lighten up the space sometimes,” the post read, seemingly trying to defuse the tension while acknowledging the gravity of Sibanda’s claims.

The CCC, known for its vocal opposition to the ruling party, has yet to issue an official statement regarding these allegations. However, Sibanda’s public appeal for a “man-to-man fight” indicates a readiness to confront these threats head-on.

As of now, there has been no response from George Charamba or any official statement from the government regarding these serious accusations. The situation remains fluid, and further developments are expected as the day progresses.

This incident underscores the ongoing tensions within Zimbabwe’s political landscape, where allegations of intimidation and violence have often marred the country’s democratic processes. The international community will likely be watching closely to see how the situation unfolds and whether there will be any formal investigations into Sibanda’s claims.

For now, Prince Dubeko Sibanda remains defiant, standing his ground in Harare, awaiting a response from those he has accused. The CCC and its supporters will undoubtedly be rallying around him, calling for justice and protection from political violence.

Fresh Details On Mnangagwa, Chamisa Dialogue

By Political Reporter- Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa has spelt out his position on engaging with opposition politician Nelson Chamisa.

George Charamba, Mnangagwa’s spokesperson, said his boss had closed the door to any dialogue with Chamisa.

This stance was reiterated in response to an appeal by economist Gift Mugano, who had urged Zimbabweans from all political backgrounds to engage in dialogue to address the country’s pressing issues.

Mugano, posting on X (formerly Twitter), emphasized the importance of unity and dialogue in overcoming national challenges, citing historical examples such as the 1987 Unity Accord between ZANU and ZAPU, and the Government of National Unity (GNU) formed with the MDC.
Mugano wrote:
“Fellow Zimbabweans, we have it on record that when we sit down and dialogue as Zimbabweans, we make progress as a country. Striking examples of what dialogue can do are the talks between ZANU and ZAPU; and ZANU PF and MDC which produced the 1987 Unity Accord and GNU, respectively. Likewise, we have it on record that when we unite, we move mountains. We united as one people against the Smith Regime and defeated them during our hard-won armed struggle. Demonstrations will not help us to resolve our differences/challenges. Likewise, crackdown on citizens will not help us to resolve our challenges/differences… I appeal to our leaders from the business community, churches, civil society, political parties, GOZ, academics, labour, etc to rise to the challenge and provide leadership towards the establishment of an inclusive dialogue aimed at providing permanent solutions to our differences/challenges.”
Despite Mugano’s appeal, Charamba dismissed the notion of dialogue with Chamisa, stating that the opportunity for such talks had already passed. He accused Mugano and human rights lawyer Advocate Thabani Mpofu of misleading Chamisa, resulting in Chamisa’s political isolation. Charamba stated:
“Professor, here is my honest view from inside: Nguva yataida nhaurirano yakapfuura. That’s the truth. Those keen on talks took up the chance and are communicating with the State. Those who chose to stay out of dialogue because of cheap advice from you naAdvocate Fulcrum, will remain outside the circuit of dialogue. What you are harvesting are the disutilities of your amateurish political exuberance in the run-up to elections. You fortified Chamisa on the wrong; today he is in the wilderness you created, and you want to sound constructive, reasonable and level-headed. You are part of the cabal of pseudo-intellectuals who misled the young man. Today you seek to salve your conscience by abortively appearing to re-negotiate for his Second Coming. IT CAN’T!”
Since January, Chamisa has been politically adrift after announcing his departure from the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), a party he helped establish in 2022. He cited infiltration by ZANU PF as his reason for leaving.
Nelson Chamisa remains a significant figure in Zimbabwean politics. His potential to galvanize opposition forces and challenge the ruling party is recognized, despite current setbacks. The ongoing discourse around dialogue and political reconciliation highlights the complexities of Zimbabwe’s political landscape and the enduring relevance of Chamisa’s leadership in shaping the country’s future.

100 Arrested Ahead Of SADC Summit

By Political Reporter- More than 100 human rights and political activists have been arrested ahead of the 44th SADC summit due in Harare in two weeks’ time.

Zimbabwe is preparing to assume the chair of the Southern African Development Community and to host the SADC Summit on August 17 in Harare.

The Zimbabwean Lawyers for Human Rights, representing most of these activists and other rights groups, have raised concern over Harare’s human rights abuses.

The latest is the abduction, torture and arrest of four pro-democracy activists who were taken from a plane at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.

Jameson Timba, an opposition politician with 77 opposition activists, has been in remand prison for two months. They were arrested while commemorating the International Day of the African Child on June 16.

They are being held in horrific conditions and repeatedly denied bail.

South Africa’s opposition party, the Democratic Alliance, released a statement, calling on the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola, to exercise South Africa’s right as a SADC member and urgently demand that the upcoming SADC summit be moved to a different location.

Zimbabwean Cattle Rancher Sets Auction Record in SA with R8 Million Purchase

By Business Reporter | Davel, Mpumalanga, South Africa– In a groundbreaking event for the cattle breeding industry, Zimbabwean cattle rancher Collins Tafireyi shattered auction records in South Africa by purchasing a remarkable Boran Stud bull, Lot 10 Cyclone, for an unprecedented R8 million (US$444,000). The auction took place at 11 a.m. today at the Hurwitz Farming Production Auction at Bull Ring Auction House.

Inconsistency and Lack of Zeal in Opposition Ranks: A Gift to Zanu PF

By Itayi Tawona Muchemwa | The current state of the opposition in Zimbabwe is a far cry from the vibrant, united, and determined force that emerged in the early 2000s. Today, inconsistency, disorganization, and a lack of zeal have become the hallmarks of the opposition, costing them dearly and handing a golden opportunity to the ruling Zanu PF government.

The opposition’s inability to present a united front, articulate a clear vision, and demonstrate a consistent stance on key issues has created an environment of uncertainty and skepticism among citizens. This disorder has gifted Zanu PF a goal, allowing them to capitalize on the opposition’s weaknesses and maintain their grip on power.

Despite the people’s desire for change, the opposition’s lack of zeal and inconsistency will likely lead to a familiar outcome: Zanu PF retaining power. The people will be forced to vote for the devil they know, rather than risking their trust on an opposition that has failed to inspire confidence.

It is time for the opposition to reflect on their strategy, reunite their ranks, and rediscover the zeal that once drove them to challenge the status quo. Only then can they truly represent the people’s aspirations and bring about the change that Zimbabwe so desperately needs.

Fake Doctor Caught After Performing 4 Surgeries

Gokwe, Zimbabwe – In a shocking revelation, another fake doctor has been uncovered in Gokwe, highlighting a troubling trend across Southern Africa. Admire Munyeki of Mbizo 5, Kwekwe, has been convicted of performing four unauthorized surgeries, posing a significant threat to patient safety.

Munyeki appeared before Gokwe Magistrate Grace Tupiri, facing four counts of contravening the Medical Act by practicing as or representing himself as a medical practitioner. He pleaded guilty to all charges.

The state, represented by Tatenda Mandishona, detailed Munyeki’s fraudulent activities:

  • On January 5, 2024, at Givemore Masteck homestead village Maluma 2, Chief Samuchembu, Gokwe North, Munyeki falsely claimed to be a dental practitioner. He extracted two teeth from Stella Sibanda, who later experienced severe pain and reported to Samuchembu Rural Health Center, exposing the fraud.
  • On March 1, 2024, Munyeki performed a circumcision on Daison Chelo, who subsequently suffered complications and reported to the health center.
  • Munyeki also posed as a medical doctor to operate on Taimon Ndege, who had a hernia. Ndege developed complications and was taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital, where the deceit was discovered.
  • Additionally, Munyeki conducted a minor surgery on Erisha Siakachoma’s neck to remove a growth. The offense came to light when Siakachoma reported to the health center.

Munyeki was apprehended at a funeral in Chirape area, Gokwe North, on Monday. He will be sentenced on Thursday.

This alarming case in Gokwe is part of a broader issue affecting Southern Africa, where fraudulent health practitioners are endangering lives. The medical profession is increasingly targeted by fraudsters, particularly in South Africa, where fake qualifications are estimated to run between 15% and 18% across various professions.

Several countries in Southern Africa are grappling with this problem. Medical councils are investigating how these culprits infiltrate systems, especially as such frauds gain popularity on social media.

The Well-Attired Intern and the TikTok Doc

In 2017, Malawi police arrested Lloyd Chisoso, who posed as a doctor at Malmed Clinic in Blantyre. He had previously applied under a different name and swapped a registration number to impersonate a legitimate doctor. His ruse was uncovered when the clinic’s management noticed discrepancies in his patient interactions.

More recently, South African authorities have cracked down on fraudulent doctors. Last summer, they arrested 124 bogus doctors in a nationwide sweep. South Africa’s Minister of Health, Joe Phaahla, noted that unregistered doctors evade the system by joining the private sector, often being paid in cash or working within registered practices.

One high-profile case involved Matthew Lani, a TikTok star arrested in October for claiming to be a medical doctor. Lani used Helen Joseph Hospital in Johannesburg to create misleading content, despite not having any medical qualifications.

Strained Economics and the Rise of Fake Doctors

The rise of fake doctors in Southern Africa points to deeper economic issues. Many individuals posing as medics have attended medical schools but lack job opportunities or have not completed regulatory exams. Victor Mithi, president of the Association of Medical Doctors in Malawi, explains that the turnover of healthcare workers and the lack of proper identification materials make it easier for fraudsters to blend in.

“These individuals often engage with patients, issuing prescriptions or demanding money, causing harm and endangering lives,” Mithi says. “Our healthcare systems need to be more vigilant to prevent such dangerous deceptions.”

As Munyeki awaits sentencing, the exposure of another fake doctor in Gokwe serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against medical fraud. The situation calls for heightened vigilance and stricter regulations to safeguard the integrity of the medical profession and ensure patient safety across Southern Africa.

Warriors Star Faces Uncertain Future

Wolves coach Gary O’Neil has admitted that Tawanda Chirewa may depart on loan this summer with the club yet to make a decision on his future.

The Warriors international’s breakthrough came in the previous season after making his senior debut against Brentford in the FA Cup.

He went on to became a regular in the senior matchday squads and registered 10 first-team appearances in total.

Speaking to English publication, Express and Star, O’Neil believes it will be a positive move for Chirewa if he leaves on loan since Wolves’ depth in attacking areas means the youngest may get limited game time.

“That’s still undecided,” the gaffer told the publication when asked if Chirewa will leave on loan.

“He has shown potential, but obviously we have more attacking players available at this moment than we did last year.

“Maybe it will be more difficult for him to push up, not to say it’s impossible but we will do what’s right for. him.”

Chirewa is currently with the senior team in USA for pre-season camp.

The forward was spotted wearing a much lower jersey number, 28, from his previous number 62 which he wore as an academy player in the senior squad.

Kariba Lake Water Levels Plummet, Threatening Hydropower Generation

By A Correspondent

The Kariba Lake, a crucial reservoir for hydropower generation, is experiencing a notable decline in water levels due to persistently low inflow rates.

As of July 29, 2024, the lake’s water level stands at 477.04 meters, marking a significant drop from 479.69 meters on the same date in 2023.

This decline corresponds to a reduction in usable storage capacity, which has decreased from 29.56% to just 10.63% over the past year.

Designed to operate effectively between 475.50 meters and 488.50 meters, with an additional 0.70 meters reserved as freeboard, Kariba Lake is a critical resource for generating hydropower in the region.

The ongoing drop in water levels threatens the lake’s ability to maintain optimal hydropower generation, posing risks for energy supplies.

The reduced inflow has compounded concerns about the lake’s future operational stability and the broader implications for energy security. If the trend continues, it may necessitate adjustments in power generation strategies and increased efforts to address water management and conservation issues in the region.

Zimbabwean Man Caught With USD 828 Million Worth of ‘Mutoriro’ Meth in Australia

Sydney, Australia – In a significant drug bust, a Zimbabwean man has been apprehended in Sydney for allegedly smuggling 900 kilograms of methamphetamine, commonly known as “Mutoriro” in Zimbabwe, into Australia. The illicit haul, valued at an astonishing USD 828 million, marks a dramatic escalation in the international narcotics trade involving the drug that has wreaked havoc in Zimbabwe.

The suspect, Michael Charumbira, 31, was arrested at a property in Warwick Farm, Sydney, after an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers led authorities to a shipping container at Port Botany. Inside, Australian Border Force officers discovered the methamphetamine concealed within two industrial computer numerical control (CNC) machines, originally shipped from the United States.

The arrest- Aussie Federal Police

Authorities report that the methamphetamine was packaged in individual wraps, ready for distribution. The drugs were believed to have been part of a sophisticated “piggybacking” operation, where contraband is sent to a legitimate business with a history of importing goods, and then diverted to criminal syndicates upon arrival.

Detective Superintendent Peter Fogarty of the Australian Federal Police (AFP) stated, “Methamphetamine is the second-most-consumed illicit drug in Australia, and its impact can be felt across the community, in our homes and in our hospitals. This seizure will have a significant impact on the drug trade in New South Wales.”

The Zimbabwean origin of the methamphetamine highlights a worrying trend. “Mutoriro” has been a scourge in Zimbabwe, contributing to a surge in substance abuse, particularly among the youth. Studies by Gunda and Mbwirire (2020) and Nhapi (2019) have documented the devastating effects of drug addiction on students in rural Zimbabwe, leading to severe physical, psychological, and social problems, and even mortality.

No one anticipated that the trafficking of Mutoriro would extend beyond Zimbabwe’s borders, let alone on such a massive scale. The Australian Federal Police allege that the drugs were intended for distribution across the eastern seaboard, indicating a well-organized international drug syndicate.

Charumbira, who has been charged with attempting to possess a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug, faces a maximum penalty of life in prison. Another man arrested alongside Charumbira was released pending further inquiries.

“This case underscores the global nature of the drug trade and the ongoing battle against narcotics that continue to devastate communities worldwide. The collaboration between international law enforcement agencies was pivotal in this operation,” said AFP Commissioner Reece Kershaw. “The information provided by the US Homeland Security Investigations agency was crucial in alerting us to the shipment.”

The bust is a testament to the collaborative efforts between international law enforcement agencies. Information from the US Homeland Security Investigations agency was crucial in alerting Australian authorities to the shipment.

Peter Dutton, Australia’s Minister for Home Affairs, commented on the successful operation: “This significant seizure demonstrates the effectiveness of our law enforcement agencies and their commitment to keeping these dangerous drugs off our streets. We will continue to work closely with our international partners to disrupt and dismantle these criminal networks.”

This case underscores the global nature of the drug trade and the ongoing battle against narcotics that continue to devastate communities worldwide. The AFP has indicated that further arrests are anticipated as investigations continue.

As the legal proceedings against Charumbira unfold, the international community watches closely, recognizing the critical need for heightened vigilance and cooperation to combat the pervasive threat of illicit drugs.- Sky/Australia Federal Police
