Kim Jung Un, the Supreme pioneer of North Korea has censured the death of Qassem Soleimani Iranian general.
It was accounted for that the US airstrike executed Iran’s Soleimani the top Iranian military administrator.
Kim has promise to hold hands with Iran to complete the United States because of their presumption in the locale.
“We remain by Iran against American presumption in the locale.”
“The United States submitted three incredible missteps, and they will pay for every one of the three error.”
“The primary misstep was they damaged the Iraqis Sovereignty and domain, respectability, and on account of that they will got a reaction from the Iraqis.”
“They dropped their understanding which the United States had just abused by not educating the district.”
“They had the feeling of an enormous number of individuals from India to Russia also Iran, Iraq.”
Four teachers from Chingele Secondary School in Chiredzi have been suspended after it had been disclosed that they wrote ZIMSEC examinations for their wives and or girlfriends.
This was after investigations by a team from Zimsec in Harare found out that the schoolhead Mike Maluleke allegedly connived with his deputy Checkson Tsumele, mathematics teacher Roddington Sithole and English teacher Misheck Mahungu to write the examinations on behalf of their girlfriends at home.
“Four teachers (head, deputy and two senior teachers) were involved in improper association with schoolchildren and former schoolchildren. These four were writing examinations for the eight candidates while one teacher was writing for his second wife. Combined Science paper 3 ( practical paper) examination was written in more than two hours and no proper supervision was in place, and candidates were even discussing answers in the examination,” Dlamini said.
The development was confirmed by ZIMSEC spokesperson, Nicky Dlamini who said that the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, through the Public Service Commission suspended the four teachers. He said:

These four were writing examinations for the eight candidates while one teacher was writing for his second wife. The suspended are school head Mike Maluleke, his deputy Checkson Tsumele, mathematics teacher Roddington Sithole and English teacher Misheck Mahungu.
Dlamini also said that nine candidates will have all their results for the November session nullified as per the provisions of the Zimsec policy and combined science results for the whole school have also been cancelled.
ZIMSEC has over the years experienced the leakage of examination papers prompting some to doubt the credibility, validity and reliability of the results.
State Media|The Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (ZINARA) is struggling to repay the loan acquired from the Development Bank of South Africa (DBSA) to upgrade the Plumtree-Bulawayo -Mutare Highway due to prevailing foreign currency shortages.
This has resulted in a series of defaults, which will see the country paying much more.
This also comes at a time when the national road administrator has appointed an advisor to assess this contract entered into under Public Private Partnerships to evaluate the impact.
Zimbabwe awarded Group Five, a South African firm to rehabilitate the 882 kilometre highway, which began in 2012 and funded to the tune of US$206 million.
The scope of works on the rehabilitation of the highway, which started during the inclusive Government era between Zanu-PF and two MDC formations, involved 50 percent resealing, 29 percent shoulder widening and surfacing (7m to 10m), 21 percent reconstruction in some sections and 9 percent state-of-the-art toll gates installation.
The Plumtree-Bulawayo-Mutare Highway upgrade is probably one of the huge road investments undertaken by the Government since independence nearly 40 years ago.
Under the deal, the money for loan repayment should come from toll gate fees collections.
But the prevailing foreign currency shortages has seen ZINARA struggling to repay.
It is a 10-year loan, which should be fully repaid in the next two years, but due to a series of defaults, Zimbabwe will need more years to settle the debt.
More so, the country is left to pay huge penalties arising from failure to timely settle its obligations.
The adoption of mono-currency has also made the situation even more complicated as ZINARA now needs more local dollars to butt the US dollars.
The deal was entered during the multi-currency regime dominated by the US dollar.
Critics, however, say this might not be peculiar to ZINARA as some State-owned entities, which borrowed money from foreign financiers to fund their projects may also be struggling to settle their debts in light of forex shortages.
For instance, ZESA received a US$533 million from China to expand its Kariba hydroelectric plant but has been facing forex challenges even to import power to narrow the supply gap.
ZINARA chairman Michel Madanha told our sister paper The Sunday Mail Business that the only source of foreign currency are transit fees, not sufficient to meet its monthly obligations.
As such, the national road administrator was looking at re-negotiating repayment terms.
“The assessment of the deal is still being undertaken by the transactional advisor contracted by ZINARA and it is coming at a time when the sourcing of foreign currency to pay the DBSA loan has become difficult given foreign currency challenges in the economy,” Mr Madanha said in an interview.
“Loan repayment is currently coming from the transit fees, which is the only source of foreign currency.”
Asked whether the arrangement was yielding impressive dividends for the country, Madanha said:
“The assessment on whether the PPP is yielding dividends to the country is what the new ZINARA board and new management team are seized with .
ZINARA has engaged the transactional advisor to assess all contracts that gave rise to the PPP and evaluate whether it has achieved the intended purpose that was there at the inception of the contract.”
Efforts to get a comment from DBSA proved fruitless.
Correspondent|FINANCE and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube yesterday said Government was seized with addressing salaries for civil servants and the issue will be solved in a few weeks’ time. The Government last week offered civil servants a 100 percent pay rise, in a move that will result in the least-paid worker taking home $2 033, up from $1 023 per month.
However, civil servants rejected the offer.
They continued demanding that their salaries be pegged on the interbank rate, with the lowest-paid worker getting the equivalent of US$475 monthly.
“We are negotiating with civil servants against the vagaries of inflation,” said Minister Ncube.
“Those negotiations are making progress. When negotiating there can be disagreements and that is normal. But we as the employer, we are going to make sure there is a decent salary for civil servants.
“We appreciate the work that they do and also we are going to honour that by this cushioning allowance. It is our expectation that we come to some agreement in the next few weeks so that we can move forward.”
More than 15 civil servants’ associations and eight staff associations met in Harare yesterday to receive feedback on Government’s position on last week’s meeting.
In an interview after the meeting, Public Service Association president Mrs Cecilia Alexander said civil servant’s representatives met and disagreed with the Government offer.
“They said they are incapacitated, hence there is need to peg their salaries equivalent to US$475 at the interbank rate for the minimum worker,” she said.
“We will continue to engage the Government until our demands are met.”
An economic analyst, Mr Persistence Gwanyanya, said while experts were fully convinced about the need to improve the remuneration of civil servants in line with the rising cost of living, that should be in line with the major objectives to achieve low and stable inflation.
“Now, pegging salaries against the interbank rate does not achieve this as it’s likely to result in wage price spiral,” he said.
“This will take us back to the hyperinflation period of 2008. What this means is we should understand that we are in a transition and we can’t achieve all goals at once. We need logical sequencing of interventions.”
Mr Gwanyanya said ideally, salaries should be increased, but not to the extent of pegging them to a set US dollar figure paid out at the interbank rate.
He said Government and labour should agree with a level of salary increase that achieves the major objective of low and stable inflation whilst improving the standard of living of civil servants.
“The subsidies model currently in place has to be effectively implemented to reduce the cost of living,” said Mr Gwanyanya.
“That is where Government can provide an acceptable excuse not to increase salaries in line with the interbank rate.”
THE Meteorological Service Department (MSD) yesterday warned people to brace for more thunderstorms this week.
In a statement, the MSD said Matabeleland North, Midlands, north of Manicaland, Harare Metropolitan and all Mashonaland provinces will be mostly cloudy and will experience rain showers followed by thunder and lightning.
“Localised heavy falls remain probable. On the other hand, Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Masvingo and south of Manicaland should be mostly sunny with isolated light showers that may be thundery in places,” the MSD statement said.
The MSD said rains will not be uniform with some areas expected to experience heavy downpours while others will receive showers or no rainfall.
In cases of thunderstorms, the department urged people to avoid seeking shelter under trees or shades and to avoid outdoor activities.
The department also urged people to get rid of mosquito breeding grounds.
“Mosquitoes proliferate during this season, any areas that allow stagnation of water become breeding grounds for these vectors and people should fumigate possible mosquito breeding grounds within your vicinity,” read the statement.
Own Correspondent|Finance and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube yesterday issued government employees with surprise “cushioning allowances,” at a time when most of the workers are formulating a crippling industrial action.
Civil servants will each get between $400 and $800, depending on grades, beginning today as a once off payment.
“We appreciate the work that they do and also we are going to honour that by this cushioning allowance. It is our expectation that we come to some agreement in the next few weeks so that we can move forward.”
Minister Ncube said the Government was going to repeat what happened last year when civil servants were awarded cushioning allowances and adjustments constantly.
“Last year we did it twice during the year,” he said.
“We had a cushioning allowance and then had another adjustment in April last year, another adjustment in July and a bonus in November. So, this year again, we will follow a similar pattern with multiple points to cushion civil servants.”
More than 15 civil servants’ associations and eight staff associations met in Harare yesterday to receive feedback on Government’s position on last week’s meeting.
In an interview after the meeting, Public Service Association president Mrs Cecilia Alexander said civil servant’s representatives met and disagreed with the Government salary review offer.
State Media|Live streaming of court proceedings in cases of public interest will now be a permanent feature as the Judiciary moves to promote transparency and accountability.
Speaking during the official opening of the 2020 Legal Year in Harare yesterday, Chief Justice Luke Malaba admitted that Zimbabwe has been slow in introducing live broadcasts.
He told the gathering, including judges and lawyers, the diplomatic corps and high-ranking Government officials who attended the traditional opening ceremony that the live streaming of the 2018 presidential poll petition marked a new era for the country’s Judiciary.
“It demonstrated our Judiciary’s commitment to upholding the values of transparency and accountability,” said Chief Justice Malaba.
“In that case, I noted that live broadcast of court proceedings promotes transparency and public confidence in the justice system.”
Other cases of public interest have since been broadcast live from the Supreme Court.
Chief Justice Malaba said the broadcast of court proceedings is inescapable in the administration of justice.
“Few people are able to attend court proceedings at any given time, yet cases of public interest affect more than the litigants before the courts.
“They also affect the interests of a large section of society,” he said.
“Many reasons explain this. One of the most common impediments is the location of the court. For instance, the Constitutional Court only sits in Harare, yet people from all corners of the country are invariably interested in the proceedings before that court.
“This results in operations of courts being considered as secretive by the public.
“As a result, the ordinary man and woman may view the decisions of the courts with suspicion.
“The public have the opportunity to observe first-hand court proceedings as they unfold,” he said.
“They have the opportunity to learn how courts function in the process of hearing and adjudicating disputes between citizens on the one hand and citizens and the State on the other.”
The Chief Justice, however, said fear of sensationalism is allayed through strict regulation of the broadcasting process so as to protect the dignity of the proceedings.
“This trajectory is intended to foster public trust and confidence in the court system by debunking the myth that court proceedings are esoteric and that courts want to mask their decisions,” he said.
The battalion of 50 machete thugs arrested in Gokwe.
Own Correspondent|MEMBERS of a 40-member machete gang which invaded a police base in Gokwe North in an attempt to rescue their arrested counterparts, have been denied bail.
Gokwe magistrate Mr Musaiona Shortgame remanded the gang to 22 January for trial.
Mr Shortgame said the gang members were facing a serious crime and are flight risks if released on bail.
“The court has proved beyond doubt that there are compelling reasons as to why the accused should remain in custody. The court concurred with the State submissions that the case against the accused persons was strong and that may induce them to abscond if released,” said Mr Shortgame.
He said their release may also endanger the safety of the public.
Their defence counsel Mr Tinashe Matiyashe of Matiyashe Law Chambers argued that his clients were not flight risks since they were Gokwe residents.
But the State led by Mr Liberty Chimwaradze argued that the case should not be taken lightly since the accused posed a threat to national security.
“These are people of no fixed abode who are likely to do anything, your Honour, they are likely to abscond. I therefore pray to this court to detain the accused persons in custody,” said Mr Chimwaradze.
The gang is definitely set not to have it easy at the courts as government has adopted a tough stance against the lawless machete thugs taking over the country.
The National Prosecuting Authority recently ordered all courts to be firm when handling cases involving the thugs.
“We have noted with concern the upsurge in the number of cases of violence involving the use of machetes, especially by illegal artisanal miners. In a bid to stamp out the scourge, you are hereby directed to oppose bail and to request custodial sentences in the event of any convictions in all such cases,” wrote Justin Uladi, the National Director of Public Prosecutions.
Speaking at the opening of the 2020 Legal Year yesterday, Chief Justice Luke Malaba said special courts have been set up countrywide to deal specifically with organised machete gang attackers that are terrorising citizens, especially in gold mining areas, and show the Judiciary had capacity to fight crime and enforce the law.
The specialised courts are expected to clamp down speedily and decisively on the machete gang menace following grisly murders, including that of a Kadoma police officer, robberies and vicious assaults.
Machete gangs have become a major force in gold-rich mining towns like Kwekwe, Kadoma, Bindura and Chegutu, where they are killing and sexually abusing gold miners and civilians.
They have also moved into some towns and cities.
Chief Justice Malaba strongly warned rogue elements behind the wave of machete and knife violence.
“As we speak, the country is gripped by another spate of violence perpetrated by the so-called machete gangs,” he said.
“The Judiciary acknowledges the work being undertaken by law enforcement agencies in bringing perpetrators of that violence to book.
“May I assure the nation that the courts stand ready to decisively deal with those accused of these offences in accordance with the law. Special courts to specifically try the cases have been set up in all affected areas across the country. I call upon all stakeholders in the administration of justice to make concerted efforts to end this problem.”
Chief Justice Malaba said institutions mandated to protect citizens could not sit back and watch while a few rogue elements terrorised the nation for their selfish benefits.
Own Correspondent|Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube has agreed on a unique deal with China where Chinese investing in Zimbabwe will be allowed to take back to China in foreign currency all the profits they will have generated in the country.
“One issue that has been of concern is we need to make sure there is full repatriation of profits. The returns are guaranteed so we make sure the accounts remain in hard currency or are guaranteed to be so. Those are the issues that will allow us to unlock more resources from China.
“China is the leader in the world in terms of strategies for developing infrastructure and we want to learn from them. There is a lot of resources to tap in terms of infrastructure development,” he said.
Minister Ncube said due to the difficulties of having to service debts and liabilities for Chinese investments into Zimbabwe, they had entered into a currency swap arrangement deal.
“There are those who will be investing in Zimbabwe from China and those who require their profits to be remitted back to China, which is normal. The idea is those individuals will then swap so that those investing in Zimbabwe will be able to have the domestic currency and they use foreign currency which they are bringing to invest in Zimbabwe to pay those who are exiting.
“This will do with any country that has a similar relationship as Zimbabwe. But with China specifically, we have this special relationship and the Chinese Government has approved this currency swap. It will strengthen our capacity to honour our liabilities with China and also attract new investors from China,” he said.
Minister Ncube said the currency swap had been approved and was only awaiting implementation.
Mthuli Ncube’s flashy proposal already appears difficult to understand as China’s heavy involvement in any country, words like “exploited” and “corrupted” replace rosier depictions of the country’s activity. Recently, phrases such as “human rights abuses,” “volatile race relations,” “unsustainable trade,” and “labor violations” have resonated with most Chinese companies in the country leaving one wondering how the deal Mthuli Ncube is pushing will survive.
On the sale of State enterprises, he said they had not discussed the issue with Mr Wang, but he was of the view that any bidder globally or locally was free to bid or express interest for Zimbabwe’s partial privatisation of its assets.
Own Correspondent|Chinese Foreign Affairs Minister Mr Wang Yi completed his his five-nation Africa tour yesterday with a meeting with on leave President Mnangagwa at State House.
Mr Wang left for China after the meeting.
President Mnangagwa confirmed that they had a meeting which he called fruitful though he had to come out of his leave to meet the Minister instead of delegating Acting President Constantino Chiwenga to do the task.
“He is very happy that we had the occasion to go over our relations between China and Zimbabwe on all issues and he goes back home satisfied that our relations are on a solid foundation.
“What remains is further consolidation and deepening those relations. We scaled up relations in September 2019 from all-weather friendship between the two countries to a strategic comprehensive partnership. We, as Zimbabwe, are happy with our relations with China,” said President Mnangagwa.
In a statement, issued from the Chinese Embassy in Harare yesterday, Wang said China and Zimbabwe had achieved fruitful results and were facing important opportunities under the guidance of Presidents Xi Jinping and Mnangagwa.
He said his discussions with Foreign Affairs Minister Sibusiso Moyo were fruitful and confirmed that consensus was reached on a lot of important issues.
“First, China-Zimbabwe friendship is unbreakable. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Zimbabwe. Over the past 40 years, Sino-Zimbabwe friendship has withstood the test of strong winds and waves and has always been unswerving.
“Among others, the most fundamental experience is mutual respect, mutual trust and mutual support. China supports the efforts of the Zimbabwe people to safeguard its national sovereignty and national dignity, and supports its independent choice of a path to development in line with its national conditions.
“We also appreciate the fact that Zimbabwe has made its relations with China a diplomatic priority, and we thank Zimbabwe for its valuable support in relation to China’s core interests. We are willing to be good friends, good partners and good brothers with Zimbabwe forever.”
Mr Wang said China and Zimbabwe were at an important point of national development and rejuvenation and the two countries had to adhere to the concept of win-win cooperation, continue to carry out good cooperation in infrastructure, agriculture, mining and actively expand new growth areas.
“As a good friend of Zimbabwe, we are also willing to actively provide policy advice in accordance with the wishes of the Zimbabwe people, and share the experience of the Chinese side. The joint construction of the “Belt and Road Initiative” and the China-Africa Cooperation Forum are two major platforms for promoting Sino-Zimbabwe cooperation, and will provide an important driving force for Zimbabwe’s economic and social development,” he said.
Mr Wang said China advocated equality among countries and opposed the use of strength over the weak.
Special courts have been set up in areas hardest hit by machete gangs, while those for corruption cases will soon be ready.
This comes as judges have already been appointed, with assistance sought from Uganda to ensure investigators and prosecutors of corruption meet the required standards.

A MAN from Inyathi in Bubi District, Matabeleland North province who allegedly ganged up with his mother and fatally struck his father with an axe before the woman attempted to conceal the murder, has been arrested.
Musawenkosi Ncube (18) who had been on the run after allegedly axing his father Mr Sipho Ncube (42) more than a week ago, a crime his mother Beauty Ncube (40) allegedly tried to cover up, was arrested at the weekend.
Mr Ncube died at Mpilo Central Hospital last Wednesday due to injuries sustained during the attack.
Beauty allegedly attempted to conceal the murder by giving a false report to the police that the deceased was injured after he fell on a rake.
Beauty and Musawenkosi of Mahlabathini village jointly appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Nomasiko Ndlovu facing a murder charge and they were remanded in custody to January 30.
Prosecuting, Mr George Rufumoyo said on January 5, the deceased and his wife had a misunderstanding in which Mr Ncube accused Beauty of engaging in an extra-marital affair with another man.
“The dispute degenerated into a fight resulting in the deceased striking Beauty on the head with a harrow,” said Mr Rufumoyo.
The court heard that when Musawenkosi discovered that his mother was under attack, he picked an axe and allegedly struck his father once on the head.
Beauty hit the deceased once on the ribs.
The deceased died three days later at Mpilo Central Hospital where he had been admitted.
It is alleged that Beauty tried to cover up the crime by allegedly lying that her husband was drunk and fell onto a rake.State media
Farai Dziva| Outspoken Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho has expressed his disappointment after Tottenham lost at home 1-0 to Liverpool on Saturday.
Roberto Firmino scored the only goal of the match in the first half to extend the Reds’ remarkable unbeaten league run to 38 games.
The tie had its controversial moments especially in the build-up to the goal. The ball appeared to have touched Sadio Mane’s shin on its way out but the throw-in was given to Liverpool.
The visitors scored from that throw-in, something that irritated Mourinho.
In a post-match interview with Sky Sports, the Portuguese said: “Yesterday (on Friday) we spent half an hour defending throw-ins and we lost the game on the throw-in.
“I think the refs did a very good job, but the assistant on the opposite side didn’t see that Mane touched the ball [in the build-up to the goal].”
The gaffer also revealed his frustration with Andy Robertson’s crude challenge on Japhet Tanganga going unpunished.
“I told you they would win the league when they beat Manchester City three or four months ago. They were lucky – they could have conceded a goal and got a red card for Robertson’s challenge.”
Farai Dziva|Zimbabwean teachers are now earning the equivalent of US $35 per month.
See below Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union statement :
The over 5 000 members of Amalgamated Rural Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe, ARTUZ have unanimously resolved to desist from reporting for duty until the salary dispute is fixed.
The teachers are severely incapacitated since they are earning an equivalent of US$35 per month.
The proposed increment by the government falls way below the legitimate expectations of the hard-working teachers.
Teachers are demanding a United States dollar interbank rate indexed salaries.
The 97% offer by the government comes at a time when government services have been hiked by over 500%.
Government is even charging some of its services in United States dollars, for example, an emergency passport fee of US$318 from RTGS$ 318. We are simply asking to be accommodated into the national economy.
Government last paid teachers a full salary in September 2018, we have been earning 7% of the last negotiated income. Attempts to engage the government have been futile since then.
The employer has been calling for endless pity parties which have not yielded any positive result. Countless petitions have been submitted but no favourable response has been received as yet.
An ordinary teacher salary cannot fend for food, shelter, transport, education and health care. Teachers cannot afford transport to go back to work.
Our members stationed at far-flung schools like
Gokwe but domiciled in
Manicaland , for example, cannot make it back to work under these circumstances. Such a member would fork out RTGS$ 700 for transport alone.
School fees are now beyond the reach of teachers and teachers cannot afford the service they provide. It is rumoured that parents are now incentivizing teachers to report for duty, it should be noted that rural communities cannot afford to pay these incentives.
The responsibility for providing education solely lies on the shoulders of the government, other actors can only play a supporting role.
Our recently convened congress resolved to deploy our leadership to engage the Joint Operations Command, (JOC) to avert the victimization of teachers by state agents.
We warn the government and school administrators to refrain from the sick culture of targeting teachers who are tabling genuine labour grievances. We will pursue all remedies to put an end to this debauchery.
We encourage the government to urgently pay teachers a living wage to save our education from collapse. The pursuit of Sustainable Development Goals is derailed by the underfunding of critical sectors like education.
Teachers will not pretend to be teaching under these untenable conditions lest we hazard destroying the future of our learners and our nation. The drop in 2019 grade 7 pass rates is a clear testimony of erosion of the quality of our education.
We call upon like-minded sister unions and the broader working class to join this noble fight aimed at rescuing our education.
Parents are encouraged to keep their children at home, there will be no teachers to attend to the learners at school.-ARTUZ
TWO people died while three others, including a toddler, sustained serious burns following a suspected petrol and liquefied petroleum gas explosion at a house whose occupants illegally sold fuel at Nkayi Centre, Matabeleland North.
The incident occurred on Friday evening at a Government house occupied by a Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Services officer.
Businesspeople at Nkayi Centre said the explosion rattled widows at buildings and sent black smoke billowing into the sky.
Nkayi District Development Coordinator Ms Matilda Mlotshwa yesterday confirmed the incident.
“Yes, there is a sad development that occurred on Friday and I don’t even know where to start. The information that I have received from the police is that two people have died following a fuel explosion while three others including a one year-two-months old baby are battling for life at Mpilo Central Hospital.
“One of the deceased is the baby’s mother who died yesterday (Sunday) and a 28-year-old man who died on the spot,” said Ms Mlotshwa.
She said it was a very tragic incident which could have been avoided.
“We have lost very young people and my appeal is that people should not keep flammable and dangerous fuels in their homes.
This is fuel that should have been left at a fuel station instead of bringing it at home. The explosion is said to have been caused by an open fire and petrol or diesel but it’s all speculation because those involved cannot speak due to burns they sustained while others are dead,” she said.
She said the incident occurred at a Government house occupied by a prison officer whose wife died while a minor child is battling for life at hospital.
Nkayi South MP Stars Mathe expressed shock over the incident.
“What is clear is that the fire explosion was caused by fuel that was stored at home. The house occupants had been raided by police three days prior to the incident but they restocked.
However, at the moment we are not sure what really sparked the explosion because their neighbours said there was a serious explosion. We are waiting for police to complete their investigations.
Some are suspecting that the explosion was caused by contact between petrol and a lit gas stove yet others are saying the explosive fire was ignited by a lit candle as there was no electricity,” said Mathe.State media
Dancehall rapster Shinsoman endured hours on end of horror at the hands of a machete-wielding gang in Chegutu as he was forced to repeat the same song over and over.
The incident happened despite the presence of police stations in the town.
The musician last week spoke of the experience saying he was performing at a show in Chegutu, Mashonaland West province, when armed men forced him to sing a song for hours on end.
“The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) would like to condemn the detention of musician ‘Shinsoman’ by armed men in Chegutu who are alleged to have forced him to sing one song for many hours for their enjoyment. The council would like to encourage enforcement agents in the country to increase their presence in public gatherings to avert such cases of abuse,” read the statement.
Chegutu is the same place where last week a group of men armed with machetes gang-raped and brutally killed an 80-year-old granny and her granddaughter (16).
In 2018, Zimdancehall musician Winky D could not finish a show at Solomon’s Hotel in Kwekwe after machete-wielding thugs threatened to besiege his show. He escaped through an emergency exit. Machete-wielding gangs have been making headlines over the past few weeks mostly for terrorising people, killing, robbing and fighting with law enforcement agents.
Last week in Fort Rixon, a gang brandishing an AK47 besieged a village there. Late last month a police officer was bludgeoned to death, while his colleague was injured in an attack by machete-wielding artisanal miners who had invaded Good Hope Mine in Kadoma. -Chronicle/state media

A Victoria Falls man who was arrested for beating up his wife has claimed that the woman was in the habit of “baptising” him with urine.
Thulani Ncube (38) of Chinotimba suburb pleaded guilty to physically abusing Ms Caroline Ngwenya when he appeared before Victoria Falls magistrate Ms Rangarirai Gakanje.
The magistrate slapped him with a four months jail sentence which was wholly suspended on condition that he completes 140 hours of community service.
Ncube said he got angry when his wife poured a bucket of urine on him after a misunderstanding in November last year.
“We had a misunderstanding after I came home late. She poured a bucket of urine on me as she usually does,” said Ncube.
The couple has no children but Ncube has three from a previous marriage. Prosecuting, Mr Onias Nyathi said Ncube punched his wife before pulling her hair.
“On November 6 and at 8.45pm, the two had a misunderstanding after the accused arrived home late. The accused punched the complainant on the face and pulled her dreadlocks,” said the prosecutor.
A report was made to the police leading to Ncube’s arrest.- – Chronicle
Some are suspecting that the explosion was caused by contact between petrol and a lit gas stove yet others are saying the explosive fire was ignited by a lit candle as there was no electricity,” said Cde Mathe.
She said if CMED had not stopped supplying fuel to Nkayi the disaster could have been averted.
“I’ve no kind words for CMED as it stopped supplying fuel to Nkayi nearly two years ago saying the place is far. Is it the only place that is far in the country? As it stands there is no fuel station at Nkayi centre and some people try to take advantage of the gap the parastatal left. This accident could have been avoided if the parastatal had continued to provide fuel to the district,” she said.
Mathe however warned members of the public against keeping fuel at home. – Chronicle
Following the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on the 21st of December 2019 at ZIMA House, and a subsequent inception board meeting held on the 11th of January 2020 at the ZADHR offices, the Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights (ZADHR) wishes to announce to the public and all stakeholders of the election of a new board to steer the work of the organization for the next three years.
The new board comprises the following; Dr Fortune Nyamande (Chairperson), Dr Fungisai Mazhandu (Vice-Chairperson, Dr Norman Matara (Secretary), Dr Mufudzi Mushaninga (Treasurer), Dr Tendai Tsuro, Dr Artmore Chakanyuka, Dr Ratidzo Mugumbate, Mr Jeremiah Bamu (legal advisor), Dr Nyamande takes over from Dr Brighton Chizhande who served the ZADHR board with distinction and previously served as the Spokesperson of ZADHR.

A collegiate in the congregation of fools who wants to be the most shining imbecile of all, Energy Mutodi must be warned that sooner rather than later he and his sadistic equals shall find themselves running into caves like the non believers during the era of Noah who never believed that torrential rains shall come. By direct threat to the security of the people of Zimbabwe that his party is going to unleash murderers on the people of Zimbabwe using the national security services is the most dangerous utterances from this fool. Seeing an unresponding citizenry does not mean madness or docility. If Mutodi and his like minded fools in his party carry this threat this time we will not fold our arms.

These devils have been killing our people since 1980 to present. The genocide in Matebeleland is still in our memories. The assassination of multiple ZUM supporters in 1990 is still deposited in our minds. The new century genocide from 2000 up to the present against our people is not forgotten or not being taken stock of. Enough is enough. This time just try it by killing just a single soul and see how the sleeping giant of people power will rise.
I urge all the people of Zimbabwe to take heed of the serious threats announced by Energy Mutodi on behalf of ZANU PF that they are intending to kill enmass all of us.
They have been doing this since time immemorial and allowed to get away with it. Not any longer the people of Zimbabwe. Like a 50 kg of sugar that has been emptied by a teaspoon if we remain cowed to death we shall all perish. Blood sucking tradition that we have allowed to be part of our life since independence is coming to an end. Let me reassure you that enough is enough.
I would like to announce to the people of Zimbabwe that if Mutodi carries the threat he announced, I am going to make a public pronouncement of a new game plan in town. We must all be ready for the word that will emancipate us forever. There shall be no killing of a single soul in Zimbabwe because of political beliefs again.

By A Correspondent | The people of Kuwadzana, Harare are some of the worst brutalised by soldiers in August 2018 when Emmerson Mnangagwa deployed the army to kill many while changing election results, and on the 4th August local clinics told ZimEye.com of how military trucks would arrive at night and officers begin assaulting residents. Being reminded of these atrocities could not be any more hurting.
But the ZANU PF leader last week said he will re-deploy the army to assault the people of Kuwadzana upon discovering they have bad wishes of the nation’s rainfall (loosely translated to mean anyone stopping the rain).
Addressing Kuwadzana residents Mnangagwa said, “Asi deno taiziva kuti vanhu vekuKuwadzana vasingade kuti mvura inaye taingoti army kombai tirove.” – once we discover that it is the people of Kuwadzana who wish the rain not to fall, we would (or will) deploy the army to surround them so we assault them.” Directly translated VIDEO LOADING BELOW….

If all Zimbabweans would utilise all the energy wasted in political power struggles and bickering and direct all that into working for the benefit of Zimbabwe’s socioeconomic development, we wouldn’t be having all these problems we face today as a nation.
We spend too much time on politics of heroworshipping our leaders to the extent that some can even kill on behalf of the leader he/she doesn’t even know.
Our leaders underestimate Zimbabwe’s economic potential and are ever looking for external relief rather than empowering Zimbabweans for sustainable socioeconomic progress.
If Japan did it after WW2 and if Malaysia managed it from the 80s, why can’t a united Zimbabwe do it even better considering our vast mineral and agricultural potential?

Farai Dziva|Chief Justice Luke Malaba has called for transparency and accountability in the judiciary system.
He made the remarks at the official opening of the 2020 legal year.
See part of his statement below :
A system of accountability is executed through various mechanisms and reforms that ensure openness. The two concepts are mutually inclusive.
Unless there is accountability, transparency is of little value. In the same vein, without transparency it becomes impossible to hold public officials to account.
Transparency is a priceless prerequisite for any modern judiciary. It operates as a mechanism of governance, administration and management by the Judiciary.
It allows for control and participation by citizens in public matters. The administration of justice by the courts is one such public matter. Public power is exercised by the judiciary on behalf of the citizens.
Transparency and accountability foster within the public a sense of ownership and trust in government.
The concepts reinforce the notion that judicial officers are employees of the people.
Public decision-making processes ought to reflect the will of the people. It is for this reason that section 162 of the Constitution provides that judicial authority derives from the people of Zimbabwe.
In that regard, citizens are major stakeholders in the business of the courts. The courts must therefore, from time to time, account to the citizens on how they are performing their functions.
Such is the importance of transparency and accountability that the preamble to the Constitution lists them amongst the values which need to be entrenched to guide institutions of the State at every level in the discharge of constitutional obligations. The preamble states that there is “the need to entrench democracy, good, transparent and accountable governance and the rule of law”.
The concepts of transparency and accountability exist as indispensable components of democratic governance. Democratic governance, simply put, entails the system by which government and its institutions operate according to democratic processes and norms.
Transparency and accountability are crucial in the maintenance of a sustainable relationship of reciprocity and trust that must exist between the government and its people.
From this viewpoint, the Judicial Service Commission’s (“the Commission”) and the Judiciary’s understanding of transparency is one of openness in relation to activities. It lays bare what is being done, where, how and for what reason and the results thereof.
In the context of central government, transparency directly relates to the obligation by government to provide the public with access to information about the government. It is a duty to disclose on the part of the public office bearers and a right to demand disclosure on the part of the citizens. It plays the crucial role of countering private and public corruption, excesses in the use of public power.
As a result, there is reduction of abuse of discretion and political manipulation. It protects individual rights and ensures the security of persons and their property. Public confidence in the integrity of government processes increases.
Transparency is particularly important in judicial institutions because it promotes accountability, combats corruption and helps to eliminate arbitrariness.
Courts wield enormous power, the exercise of which can affect the interests of citizens.

BULAWAYO
Dear Sir,
RE: SYNERGY ESTATES ZIMBABWE (PVT) LTD v DUMISANI MOYO AND THE REGISTRAR OF DEEDS N.O CASE NO. HC 493/19; HC 1567/19
We refer to the above matters.
Pursuant to receipt of the Notice of Set Down for Pre-Trial Conference under Case No HC 493/19, we confirm that our Miss V. attended at the High Court on 15th November 2019 and appeared before the Honourable Justice M.
The legal practitioners for the Plaintiff were not in attendance, neither was there any communication from their offices. Consequently, the matter was removed from the roll with the Plaintiff being ordered to pay wasted costs of the Pre-Trial Conference on an ordinary scale.
We advise that at the time of attending the Pre-Trial Conference, we became aware that the Plaintiff had withdrawn its Summons and Application for Joinder but failed to tender costs of suit which, if desirable may be pursued. However, the effect of the Plaintiff’s withdrawal of both matters is that there is no longer any pending litigation between the parties. Please find herewith copies of the Notices of Withdrawal for your information.
We further confirm that, subsequent to the Plaintiff’s withdrawal of its Summons and Application for Joinder, the Plaintiff’s legal practitioners served us with Notices of Renunciation of Agency in both matters confirming that they no longer represent the Plaintiff in the same. Copies of the Notices of Renunciation are annexed hereto for your records.
We now await to hear from the Plaintiff.
Kindly find attached hereto our further statement of account for settlement by return.
Yours faithfully,

I am slowly getting to the bottom of this and its my wish to bring together parties concerned and solve the matter as quickly as possible. It’s our duty as a community to help the 8 ladies recover their money. I’m currently speaking to legal teams from both sides.

IN MEMORY OF STATE BRUTALITY….It all started exactly a year ago to the day with the midnight press conference addressed by ED himself announcing a massive fuel price hike.
The people’s peaceful response to the resultant price hikes was met with an orgy of massive State brutality in which over 19 innocent people lost their lives. Today, we remember.

By A Correspondent| MDC national vice chairperson, Job Sikhala has rejected a Masvingo legal practitioner appointed by the State to represent him on the treason charge he is facing.
Sikhala was approached by Charles Ndhlovu saying he was instructed by the Masvingo High Court registrar to represent him on “pro deo”.
A fuming Sikhala told a local publication:
How did the registrar just pick a legal practitioner when it is clearly indicated on the indictment papers that they were served to my legal practitioner.
I wonder what their motives are. At law, someone can be allocated a legal practitioner to represent him or her on two grounds.
Firstly, when the accused person has requested it and, secondly when the accused person is not able to choose a legal practitioner of choice on a serious offence.
A pro deo refers to legal representation availed by the State to a person accused of a capital offence but is unable to afford a legal practitioner.
Sikhala is being represented by the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR).
By Own Correspondent| Chief Justice Luke Malaba said that special courts have been set up to deal with the infamous machete wielding criminals commonly referred to as Mashurugwi.
Malaba made the remarks while officially opening the 2020 legal year at the Constitutional Court in Harare on Monday. He said:
The country is gripped by another spate of violence perpetrated by the so-called machete gangs.
The judiciary acknowledges the work being undertaken by the law enforcement agencies in bringing perpetrators of that wave to book.
May I assure the nation that the courts will decisively deal with the accused of these offences in accordance with the law.
Towards the end of 2019, there was an upsurge in cases of robberies perpetrated by gangs of people wielding machetes mainly in the mining communities.
In December, a machete gang attacked and killed a police officer who was guarding a mine in Kadoma.
By A Correspondent| The MDC youth wing has vowed to press ahead with plans to hold gatherings in commemoration of the 19 people killed last January during protests triggered by a sharp fuel price hike.
The party’s national youth chairperson Obey Sithole told a local publication on Sunday that they will continue to demand answers until the killers are brought to justice.
He said:
As young people, we are going to do everything within our means to remind the world that on that day a gross crime against humanity was committed under (President Emmerson) Mnangagwa’s instruction.
We will continue to demand answers on the efforts that have been made to bring the culprits to book. We are going to have commemorations across the country.
Meanwhile, Deputy Information minister Energy Mutodi on Sunday chillingly warned that the government will not hesitate to employ the shoot-to-kill policy on violent demonstrators if necessary.
In the last few years, security forces have been accused of using disproportionate force against unarmed protestors resulting in the death of dozens.
By A Correspondent| The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has called upon all workers, formally employed and those in the informal sector, to come together and confront the government in protest over slave wages.
ZCTU secretary-general Peter Mutasa scoffed at President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s remarks that people should not pine for meat but rather eat vegetables for their health.
Said Mutasa:
The issue that is bringing us all together as people is that of hunger. Every person who is working in this country must not be forced to eat vegetables and potatoes. A worker must get money enough to purchase foods that constitute a balanced diet.
Our message is that we do not have any other way to go because most avenues have been closed, but we now need to fight oppression and exploitation of workers. We do not have any other choice.
So that is our first message (to workers) that we are going ahead with demonstrations and we are going to maintain our stance of fighting government policies which are oppressing the people.
In January 2019, ZCTU called for a mass stay away after the government had unilaterally hiked the price of fuel by over 130 per cent.
Protests erupted across the country in response to the price hike and Union leaders were subsequently charged with treason.
Manchester United have reportedly slashed Paul Pogba’s asking price from €180million to just €100m after his struggles this season.
The France international has missed much of the campaign so far through injury, and this followed an indifferent run of form for the Red Devils anyway.
It seems this may have seen Pogba’s stock massively fall as Don Balon report on this big change in stance from United, while they add that Real Madrid also seem to be focusing on signing Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek instead.
It remains to be seen if Pogba can come back from this, but Man Utd are perhaps now planning for life without the 26-year-old at Old Trafford.
If this report is accurate, it could mean the former Juventus man leaves for relatively cheap in the near future, while other midfielders seem to be on their way in.
Paul Pogba is now reportedly available for just €100million
A report from A Bola, as translated by Sport Witness, suggests a deal for MUFC to sign Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes is edging closer, and he could fill a similar role to Pogba in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.
Meanwhile, they’ve also been linked with Wolves ace Ruben Neves by Goal, and Tottenham’s Harry Winks by The Athletic.
Zimbabwe-born defender Tivonge Rushesha has signed his first professional deal at Swansea City.
Tivonge Rushesha PIC: Swansea City
The 17 year-old is a product of the Welsh club’s academy and made his senior debut in the Carabao Cup this past August 2019.
Rushesha has featured for Wales at Under-17 level and played in the Uefa Under 17 qualifiers.
Although he has represented Wales at age-group level he is still eligible to play for the Warriors. He was in fact drafted in 2021 Afcon qualifiers team but the Zimbabwe Football Association was not able to secure his passport on time.
At the time of the call-up Rushesha said:
“I feel privileged to be in such a position… I visit Zimbabwe very often, on average every two years, because that’s where I was born, and it’s home.”
Rushesha has signed the professional contract with Swansea City, which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2022.
The young defender, whose existing deal was due to expire at the end of the season, has put pen to paper on his first pro deal with the Swans.
Zimbabwean-born Rushesha has made great strides with Swansea since joining the academy at under-12 level.
After signing a two-year scholarship in the summer of 2018, the full-back made 19 appearances for the under-18s last season, while he was also part of the under-19s side that lifted the FAW Youth Cup for a record-breaking 10th consecutive year.
Rushesha also broke into the under-23s squad under Gary Richards and Cameron Toshack – making five appearances during the development side’s run to the Premier League Cup semi-finals.
A member of Wales’ under-19s squad, the 17-year-old has further cemented his place in the Swans’ under-23s side this season – playing 12 times in all competitions – while he also made his first-team debut as a substitute in August’s Carabao Cup victory over Cambridge United at the Liberty.
The MDC youth wing has vowed to press ahead with plans to hold gatherings in commemoration of the 19 people killed last January during protests triggered by a sharp fuel price hike.

While Zimbabwe battles with rehabilitating its dilapidated road network due to the high cost of tar, neighbouring South Africa has come up with an alternative to the high cost by using recycled material.
Plastic bottles are being recycled to make roads in South Africa, with the hope of helping the country tackle its waste problem and improve the quality of its roads.
Potholes cost the country’s road users an estimated $3.4 billion per year in vehicle repairs and injuries, according to the South African Road Federation, as well as damaging freight.
In August, Shisalanga Construction became the first company in South Africa to lay a section of road that’s partly plastic, in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) province on the east coast.
It has now repaved half a kilometre stretch of the road in Cliffdale, on the outskirts of Durban, using asphalt made with the equivalent of almost 40,000 recycled two-liter plastic drinks bottles.
Dear Colleagues RE: TEACHER INCAPACITAITON AND OPENING OF SCHOOLS
1.1. This circular letter updates our several nuggets in 2019 and the 2020 National Secretary General’s New Year message. It further conveys the National Executive’s decision of 21 December 2019 on the above captioned subject.
2. TEACHER INCAPACITATION DEEPENS AND WILL NOW AFFECT THE OPENING OF SCHOOLS
2.1. ZIMTA National Executive now rallies its members to desist from worsening their situation by over borrowing so as to facilitate their transport and subsistence back to work. This is the employer’s responsibility. To that end, National Executive stands by all its members who have indicated that they will wait for the employer to capacitate them before going back to schools.
2.2. Sustaining one’s living on a salary deficit of ninety three percent (93%) is impossible and can only be done miraculously, by any breadwinner.
2.3. The employer should take full responsibility for this development and for carelessly handling our members’ requests for meaningful salary adjustments in 2019 through 2020.
3. WAY FORWARD
3.1. Members are advised to take the following measures when incapacitated, so that this state of affairs is not interpreted as collective job action, but be understood to be what it is, incapacitation.
3.2. Advise your colleagues, superiors and those with a legal obligation to supervise or superintend over your work, about your whereabouts.
3.3. Remember you are not on strike but you have been made redundant by your employer.
3.4. Avoid being “cushioned” by enslaving increases that do not transform your situation or seeking refuge in institutional accommodation and getting pacified by such ineffective ways.
3.5. ZIMTA has cautioned the employer of this eventuality and continues to request the employer to intercede in a meaningful and impacting way.
4. CONCLUSION
4.1. Members are advised that the National Executive’s decision to support members on this was reached after a wide consultation and analysis over a period of time.
4.2. You are advised to keep in touch with your Association, should you find yourselves in an invidious position on matters related to this or work.

Teachers, lecturers, and students are planning to coalesce with the rest of the civil service for a strike that could cripple essential services and the start of the school calendar tomorrow.
Government workers last week rejected an offer by the government to double their wages and the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) is planning “mother-of-all” demonstrations to press the government to address key national issues and reverse “anti-poor people policies”.
The 97% salary hike would have seen the lowest-paid government worker getting $2 033.
But the civil servants demanded that their salaries to be indexed to the United States dollar equivalent to those they earned during the dollarisation period.
Alternatively, the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ), Zimbabwe Teachers Association and Zimbabwe National Students Union (Zinasu), as well as the rest of the civil servants, are pressing the government to raise wages to bring the lowest paid civil servant to a monthly salary of $5 000.
The confrontation is likely to start tomorrow when schools open, with PTUZ secretary-general Raymond Majongwe calling for a united front with pupils, parents, and teachers to confront the government.
“Government must be taught … economic volatility in this country is increasing every day. Economic and political frustration is increasing every day. It’s better they engage people and they give us what we are worth because we are offering our labor to the country for the benefit of the nation and we need solidarity from everybody, the kids the parents and everybody out there,” he said.
“Why do people want to justify that they will seat and smile as government behaves like a bull in a china shop? You can’t tell me that somebody who is asking to be paid $6 000 for them to report for duty is asking for too much!”
Acting Primary and Secondary Education minister Amon Murwira said he was aware of the concerns by teachers, but said the matter was being handled by the Public Service Commission (PSC) and an announcement would be made soon.
“We have hope, I have hope, but at the moment, this is being dealt with the PSC and an announcement will be made regarding that,” he said.
The government has failed to effectively deal with the industrial action by junior doctors, which has continued for over four months, with hospitals partially closed.
Munyaradzi Gwisai, leader of the International Socialist Organisation in Zimbabwe, has called on all workers to have a joint demonstration and a shutdown of government business, saying workers have had enough and should not allow themselves to work for slave wages.
“We now need a united front of all victims of austerity to lead the resistance against austerity and the junta. Students, workers, youths, vendors and the villagers … we have to learn the lesson that the late Morgan Tsvangirai, as secretary-general of ZCTU, learned then that sometimes negotiations yield nothing. You can’t keep talking to people who are not listening.
There is no bigger army that the power of the workers and villagers,” Gwisai said.
Irked by the increase in college fees against poor salaries, Zinasu has also warned it will be taking to the streets to protest what it called attempts to push them out of school.
“They pay student teachers $150 and not even constantly, they pay our mothers $100, then they proceed to us students and demand $5 000 per term, $15 000 per year exclusive of other necessities … They must be stopped, they must be resisted. They are evil,” Zinasu said in a statement in response to a statement from Seke Teachers College, which increased fees for resident teacher students from $2 416 to $5 016 effective January 10.
The ZCTU has already declared 2020 as a year for resisting slave wages and confronting government over poor policies and the poverty-inducing austerity measures.
“We have been mandated by the workers to ensure that we resist all these slave wages and engage in peaceful and constitutional action, which will end the suffering of workers, toiling every day yet they can’t pay just rentals or send their children to school. As we speak right now, many of our members are being evicted from their homes. Action has to be now,” ZCTU secretary-general Peter Mutasa said.
He added that it was important for all workers to join hands and fight from the same corner.
“Our message is that it is no longer effective for workers to fight from their different unions or groups. It is no longer tenable for the doctors to protest alone. It is also no longer effective for teachers to fight the government alone. The same goes for nurses, bank employees or those (who) do general cleaning. They can’t fight from their corners,” he said.
“It is also now impossible for workers who work for famous companies to fight without joining hands with those who are self-employed. So we are saying let us have unity of workers who work in formal and informal sectors. We now also want to see unity in the protests between the workers who work in cities and those who work in rural areas.”
Mutasa lashed out at President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s call for people to avoid meat and eat vegetables and potatoes.
“The issue that is bringing us all together as people is that of hunger. Every person who is working in this country must not be forced to eat vegetables and potatoes. A worker must get money enough to purchase foods that constitute a balanced diet,” he said.
Mutasa said workers no longer had any other way of dealing with the government to solve the multi-layered national crises than to take to the streets.
“Our message is that we do not have any other way to go because most avenues have been closed, but we now need to fight oppression and exploitation of workers. We do not have any other choice. So that is our first message (to workers) that we are going ahead with demonstrations and we are going to maintain our stance of fighting government policies which are oppressing the people,” he said.
The ZCTU has also said it was against the government’s introduction of a mono currency and maintained workers must be paid either in US dollars or the equivalent of their salaries in the greenback as at September 2017.
Through the Zimbabwe Hospitals Doctors Association (ZHDA), the doctors — who have been on strike for more than four months now — have vowed to press on until their demand for better wages is met.
“It has been four months since our members declared incapacitation, our employer has to date offered a net salary of $3 600 equivalent to less than US$170. A clear breach of our contractual agreement of net US$1 800. We remain steadfast in our call for a decent wage for our members,” ZHDA said.
THE judiciary has established special courts to deal “decisively” with the notorious machete gangs known as Mashurugwi.
Officially opening the 2020 Legal Year at the Constitutional Court in Harare Monday, Chief Justice Luke Malaba said the terror gangs could create anarchy if they were not quickly neutralised.
“As we speak the country is gripped by another spate of violence perpetrated by the so called machete gangs”, Malaba said.
“The Judiciary acknowledges the work being undertaken by law enforcement agencies in bringing perpetrators of that wave of violence to book.
“May I assure the nation that the courts stand ready to decisively deal with those accused of these offences in accordance with the law,” he said.
“Special courts to specially try the cases have been set up in all affected areas across the country. I call upon all stakeholders in administration of justice to make concerted efforts to end this problem.”
Malaba added; “Institutions mandated to protect the citizens cannot sit back and watch a few rogue elements terrorise the entire nation for their selfish benefits.
“We hear stories of callous murders of ordinary Zimbabweans and law enforcement agents, citizens’ rights of freedom of movement, freedom to conduct their affairs without fear and freedom of association are being violated with impunity.
“Courts must demonstrate to the public they are possessed of real capacity to enforce the law and punish crime.” Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Justice Elizabeth Gwaunza officially opened the 2020 Legal Year at the Bulawayo High Court where she also implored stakeholders in the administration of justice to make concerted efforts to end the machete killings.
Gangs of artisanal miners are roaming in gold mining communities injuring and killing people using machetes before stealing gold, cash and other valuables.
According to the Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) October 2019 report, 105 murders and 221 cases of assaults were reported in gold mining areas, but no arrests have been made.
Recently, a Kadoma-based machete gang killed Constable Wonder Hokoyo at Good Hope Mine in Battlefields, Kadoma.
Last week, robbers pounced on a Chegutu family, gang-raping an 80 year-old woman and her 16 year-old relative before killing them. The gang also attacked and seriously injured three minor members of the family.
Below is a commentary update on the UK organisation, Qoki in which there is a dispute over a £80,000 lumpsum.
Wrote broadcaster Ezra Tshisa Sibanda: The law in Zimbabwe is clear on the sale of stands and just checked everything. We need to solve this issue once and for all. These questions are directed to both the ladies and Mr Moyo who is alleged to have swindled Qoki Women’s Group. My investigations are showing so many anomalies and Qoki name is not appearing on the said stand but Synergy. I thought this Company is owned by Mr Dumi Moyo and on checking names and confirming with my sister Sithule Tshuma, it has her name and one Karen as owners.
It is a prerequisite that the land should be subdivided prior to the sale of stands. Why were the stands sold without the requirements. Tittle deeds is one of the conditions. Are we saying selling of these stands was fraud on its own? How does the alleged man come into this first stage?
Can someone tell exactly why the alleged man is refusing with the Titledeeds.
What was the agreement ?
Can we have a sight of the contract agreement and then we take it from there?
How did the money get to Zimbabwe?
We understand this case is in the court law there, can someone tell us what exactly is the position or state of the case as of now.
Who are the lawyers for all the ladies if indeed they paid money Qoki or Moyo so that we can get more information directly from them.
Please confirm whether or not all the ladies names were included in the purchase of the property, if not why?
Is it not the case that all the ladies names should have been included on the agreement or somehow be part of the property ownership?
What was the reason or strategy of buying the property in the first place?
Were the ladies told at the time of buying the stands that the land did not exist?
Was the property not supposed to be a Qoki project as alleged here, if so how does the company Synergy Zimbabwe come into it?
Was the property being bought by the Synergy or by ladies who contributed their money.
Was there no suggestion by the ladies lawyers at some point, that all women who contributed their money should be added as property owns, if so, what then happened?
Did anyone deny the right to the tittle of the ownship of the alleged property.
The alleged individual is a man of integrity and perhaps want the right and fair things to be done for all ladies involved, can the gentleman explain?
Did the ladies have a legal right to sell the stands according to the law of Zimbabwe. All ladies names should have been submitted to Companies office to secure their financial right and ownership, was this ever done, did anyone explain all this to the ladies who are accusing the alleged man?
Did this man run away with the money or parties failed to agree on some of the points not raised here?
It is not clear what happened about the money.
It seems the alleged individual is accused of fraud, do we have any evidence of these allegations, please supply?
Did this person run away with the money or what?
Is the case in court a fraud case or civil matter?
How was the money paid? Once again can someone explain how such money was transferred to Zimbabwe?
If l get this l promise to investigate and give all the relevant information to the public and solve this once and for all. – waitingpatiently

“We had made all the relevant preparations for the acting president’s visit but the roads there are in a bad state due to floods and Hoya river is also flooded so the visit has been cancelled,” said the source.
United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights Defenders
Professor Rémy Ngoy Lumbu
African Commission Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders and Focal Point on Reprisals in Africa
Dear Sirs,
Re: Urgent Request for Intervention in the Case of Human Rights Defender, Tito Elia Magoti.
We, the undersigned civil society organizations (CSOs) working to promote and defend human rights across the globe, including in Tanzania, urgently write requesting your intervention in the arrest and detention of human rights defender, Tito Elia Magoti. We are not only concerned that his arrest and detention is in retaliation for his legitimate human rights work but that the manner of his arrest, indicates a pattern by the State of disregarding due process procedures. We are further concerned that the charges against him, more specifically that of “money laundering” which automatically denies him the right to bail under Tanzanian law, poses an existential threat to all human rights defenders, journalists and civil society in Tanzania. Those charged under this law, regardless of the frivolousness of the allegations, can be indefinitely detained without trial.
On December 20, 2019, Mr. Tito Magoti, a young lawyer and Program Officer with the Legal and Human Rights Center (LHRC), was reportedly abducted by four unidentified men, handcuffed and driven off in what seemed to be a civilian vehicle.[1] LHRC is a Tanzanian based organization that works to promote, reinforce and safeguard human rights and good governance in the country.[2] Members of LHRC and other human rights organizations frantically visited various police stations in search of Mr. Magoti but were unable to locate him. It was feared he had been abducted. In the evening of December 20, 2019, the Dar es Salaam Zone Police Commander, SACP Lazaro Mambosasa, eventually released a press report indicating that he had not been abducted but was in police custody with several other arrested individuals.[3] No mention was made of where he was being detained or what allegations he was facing.[4] Police Commander Mambosasa’s statement was subsequently contradicted by the Regional Police Commander for Kinondoni region, where Mr. Magoti was arrested, alleging that he had no knowledge of the arrest.[5]
On December 23, 2019, having failed to locate their employee, LHRC filed an urgent petition against the Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander and the Attorney General demanding the release of Mr. Magoti whose whereabouts and charges against him had yet to be divulged.[6] It is only after this application was made that Mr. Magoti together with his colleague, Mr. Theodory Faustin Giyan, a software developer and commentator of matters of public interest, were brought before the Kisutu Resident Magistrate Court in Dar es Salaam, on December 24, 2019, and jointly charged with (i) leading an organized crime; (ii) possession of a computer program designed for the purpose of committing an offence; and (iii) money laundering. (The charges are attached as Annexure “A”)
We are gravely concerned with the manner of arrest and detention of Mr. Magoti. Regional and international human rights standards are clear that an accused person has the right to be immediately informed of the reason for his arrest; the immediate right to legal representation; and the right to inform his family of his arrest; and where he is being detained.[7] The State also has a legal obligation to present an accused before a court of law within 48 hours of arrest.[8] Mr. Magoti’s arrest by unidentified men who subsequently held him in incommunicado detention for four days was not only a violation of his due process rights, but such practices raise the risk of cruel and inhuman treatment or torture while in custody as well as disappearances.[9] (The Tanganyika Law Society’s statement clearly outlining the failure of the Tanzanian government to respect due process procedures in the arrest of Mr. Magoti is attached as Annexure “B”)
There have been numerous reported cases of abductions in Tanzania including those of prominent government critics.[10] In July 2019, investigative journalist, Erick Kabendera was forcefully removed from his home by unidentified men who claimed to be the police.[11] Similarly, for several days, his family and lawyers did not know where he was being detained as he was moved from station to station and denied access to his lawyers.[12] In November 2017, investigative journalist, Azory Gwanda disappeared under suspicious circumstances and has not been seen since.[13] Given this environment, it is of paramount importance that the Tanzanian government when arresting citizens refrain from abductions by the police and respect fundamental due process procedures recognized under its own constitution and regional and international standards.
We strongly believe that the allegations against Mr. Magoti are in retaliation for his legitimate human rights work. During Mr. Magoti’s unlawful detention, he was reportedly questioned for his use of social media (Twitter) and his association with media owner and activist Maria Sarungi-Tsehai; former Tanganyika Law Society President Fatma Karume; and opposition politician Zitto Kabwe, all of whom are vocal critics of the Tanzanian government, and are all currently facing various forms of retaliation for demanding government accountability and transparency.[14] We are even more concerned with the specific charges of “money laundering” against Mr. Magoti and his colleague. According to the charges, the joint accused, between February 1, 2019 and December 17, 2019, “willfully organized a criminal racket namely possession of a computer program that is designed for the purpose of committing an offence, thereby acquiring a sum of money amounting to Tanzanian Shillings, Seventeen Million, Three Hundred Fifty-Four Thousand, Five Hundred Thirty-Five only”. It is further alleged that the accused acquired the above sum knowing that the money was proceeds of a predicate offense, namely “leading organized crime” and as such charged with “money laundering” under the Anti-Money Laundering Act as read with the Economic and Organized Crimes Control Act.[15] Under Tanzanian laws, money laundering which is an economic crime is a non-bailable offence.[16] As such, Mr. Magoti is not entitled to bail and the resident magistrate postponed his case to January 7, 2020.[17] His case was again postponed to January 24, 2020 for further investigation.[18]
Erick Kabendera mentioned above, who was also charged with “money laundering”, has been in detention since his arrest in July 2019, with his case being postponed at least 10 times while the prosecution “carries out investigations”.[19] Individuals charged with non-bailable offences have reportedly spent months and even years in detention without trial.[20] We fear that Mr. Magoti and his colleague can be held in pretrial detention indefinitely. A fundamental principle of any criminal justice system is the presumption of innocence which dictates that an accused person is innocent until proven guilty by a competent and independent court. The right to pre-trial release is recognized under regional and international law which dictates that as a general rule, bail should be granted and only in certain circumstances denied. Each case must be judged on its own merits with courts taking into consideration factors such as (1) the seriousness of the alleged crime (2) whether there is overwhelming evidence against the accused (3) possibility of the accused interfering with witnesses and evidence; and (4) where the accused poses a flight risk or is a danger to the community if granted bail.[21] Even then courts must strive to put conditions that favour the liberty of an accused in order to minimize the risk of an innocent person serving a sentence prior to conviction. Tanzania’s blanket denial of bail for certain crimes without individual assessment of each case is thus inconsistent with international standards.
There is an undeniable clampdown of civil society in Tanzania. Organizations have documented the “unwarranted closure of media outlets, judicial persecution and harassment of independent journalists, the targeted assassination of opposition party members, blanket restrictions on peaceful protests and the introduction and invocation of a raft of laws to undermine freedom of online speech”.[22] It is our deep fear that the arrest of Mr. Magoti and his colleague are but one of many cases of the continued targeting of government critics. We are additionally concerned with the developing pattern of charging government critics with the crime of “money laundering” thereby denying them the right to bail and condemning them to indefinite prison sentences.
Civil society especially human rights defenders play an important role in promoting and protecting the rights recognized under international human rights treaties, and help ensure that States respect economic, social, cultural, civil and political rights. The United Nations Declaration on the Rights and Responsibilities of Individuals, Groups and Organs of Society to Promote and Protect Universally Recognized Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (Declaration on Human Rights Defenders)[23] specifically recognizes the right that everyone, including human rights defenders, have to “discuss, form and hold opinions on the observance … of all human rights … and, through these and other appropriate means, to draw public attention to these matters…”[24] The government of Tanzania has an obligation to create a conducive environment where civil society can contribute to the development of Tanzania which involves holding the government transparent and accountable. Under international law, no one shall be arrested for exercising their fundamental rights and if so, that arrest is arbitrary.[25] It is deeply troubling when the criminal justice system is being used in such a manner. If left unchecked, this is a very dangerous practice that threatens civil society and the very fabric of Tanzania’s democracy.
In light of the above, we respectfully request that your offices urgently intervene in the case of Tito Magoti and other human rights defenders and journalists in Tanzania, who are facing criminal prosecution for exercising their fundamental rights and urge the government to immediately drop these charges. We also urge that you strongly remind the government to ensure that all citizens, from the moment of their arrest for any crime, are afforded the full due process of the law without derogation.
Sincerely,
Africans Rising

Own Correspondent|Exiled former ZANU PF spin doctor Professor Jonathan Moyo turns 63 years today and his close associate and former President Robert Mugabe’s nephew Patrick Zhuwao has shared a video of him dancing on his birthday.
Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa is overhauling the Constitution barely seven years after it was adopted amid protests that he is reducing democratic space in the country.
President Mnangagwa is accused of trying to use changes to the Constitution to entrench his rule.
According to the amendments approved by Cabinet, the president will directly appoint his deputies, the prosecutor general, a public protector and control the promotion of judges.
The Constitution, adopted in 2013 as part of a power sharing deal between former president Robert Mugabe and late opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai, provided for the direct election of vice presidents.
Judges were selected through a process that involved public interviews and this was seen as a progressive move in a country where the justice system is viewed as biased towards the ruling elite.
Although the amendments are yet to be approved by Parliament, the opposition is unlikely to block them as President Mnangagwa’s ruling Zanu-PF party enjoys a two-third majority.
Civil society groups and opposition parties have accused the ruling party of trying to tighten its grip on power and reduce the democratic space.
“Any amendments to the Constitution must seek to further entrench democracy and protect rights of citizens,” said Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC), a group representing dozens of civil society groups.
“In our view, the proposed amendments seek to entrench the interests of individuals and dent the independence of an already captured judiciary,” CiZC added.
In 2013, Zimbabweans voted overwhelmingly for the new Constitution to replace a charter that was adopted when the country got its independence from Britain in 1980.
Referendum
A decade earlier the late Mugabe, who had ruled Zimbabwe since independence, suffered his first electoral defeat in a referendum after his party tried to impose a Constitution it had crafted on its own.
However, seven years after the historic vote the government is yet to align the majority of the country’s laws to the new Constitution amid criticism that President Mnangagwa is not keen on reforms.
The 77-year-old ruler is also accused of trying to use the changes to the Constitution to ward off a potential challenge from one of his deputies, Constantino Chiwenga.
Retired General Chiwenga led the military coup that toppled the late Mugabe and is viewed as President Mnangagwa’s most likely successor.
In terms of the current Constitution, Gen Chiwenga and another vice president would be the president’s running mates in the 2023 presidential elections.
“The rationale for this provision was to introduce a nondisruptive succession plan while ensuring that in the event of a vice president taking over the office of president, they would have the people’s mandate,” the Law Society of Zimbabwe said.
“The effect of the proposed ammendment to section 94 means that vice presidents will no longer be elected but appointed by the president. This removes the transparence and democratic process sought to be achieved by the Constitution in relation to the assumption of these important offices,” the Law Society of Zimbabwe added.
In the run-up to the 2018 elections, President Mnangagwa said he was aware of a plot by some aspring Zanu PF MPs to impeach him before he completes his term.
If the president were impeached, his deputy would take over.
President Mnangagwa narrowly won the polls amid claims of vote rigging by his main rival Nelson Chamisa, of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change.
There have been reports of a major falling out between the president and Gen Chiwenga over alleged attempts to sideline the former army commander and a perceived lack of ethnic balance in the new government.
Prominent lawyer Advocate Thabani Mpofu said the proposed constitutional amendments were poorly thought out and showed that the government was not interested in reforms.
“The proposed amendments are a sovereign disgrace and show the lengths to which the government is prepared to go in undercutting the spirit of the Constitution,” Mr Mpofu said.
When he came into power on the back of the coup, President Mnangagwa promised that a “new kind of democracy” was unfolding in Zimbabwe.
However, two years on he is being accused of resorting to former president Mugabe’s tactics, which include regularly sending the army to crush protests against his policies.

SC: Many of the things that are coming on Zimbabwe; right now, I have just met some Tanzanians who were criticising us, heavily, just here.
Well, we are being told that we are now 7 times worse, more, than when we were during Robert Mugabe times. I think that is one matter that I am going to need a short engagement with you Sir.
Mudenda: There are exigencies (sic)
SC: Excuse me?
Mudenda: There are exigencies (sic)
SC: Let me just, while we are, let me just get a picture with you if you don’t mind Sir.
SC: Right, where are we here? Right so, here. Meeting Advocate Mudenda.
Mudenda: Thank you.
SC: You seem to have forgotten me, I don’t know why.
Mudenda: Yeah, I am trying to recollect.
SC: Splendid. Looking forward, I will be with you shortly.
Mudenda: Yeah
SC: Thank you Sir.
Mudenda: Someone will be joining me soon.
SC: Oh, someone will be joining you?
Mudenda: Yes.
SC: Okay, so someone will be joining you. Okay. So what I will do maybe, once they come maybe, I will go away. I am just having a very light one.
Mudenda: Okay.
SC: Oh, thank you Sir. Yeah, the criticism against us is very scathing, it is very heavy, this gentleman from Tanzania who was saying he runs an NGO, and works between Uganda and Tanzania, and he says your country is now 7 times worse than when Robert Mugabe.
Mudenda: What reasons does he give?
SC: Err, we didn’t go into deep, we didn’t get deeper than that, other than him saying the conduct of both government and institutions. He alleges the judiciary as well, and parliament and he mentioned specifically the withdrawal of allowances. Sir.
Ndokutorerai (shall I get you a ) chair?
SC: Sir, the withdrawal of allowances Advocate Mudenda, that has extremely, extremely criticised yourself. On what basis. You have here a topic, local and international policy analysts here, they say you have caused the deterioration of parliament, and.
Mudenda: I have what?
SC: You have made parliament to deteriorate. The value of parliamentarianism is, should be.
Mudenda: Into what?
SC: You are now a spokesman of a military cartel rather than parliament. And in this case Advocate Mudenda, you have a discussion, a topic, that you yourself, you allowed into parliament, you brought this discussion, and that is the 1 August brutality. It is clear even ZBC broadcast this.
Mudenda: (nod and sound in affirmation).
SC: They broadcast this, announcement that the military would be used to change 2018 election results.
Mudenda: (nod and sound in affirmation).
Mudenda: Yes
SC: The same MPs who are meant to be part of your own parliament Advocate Mudenda, they are part of your parliament. And you are the one who allowed this discussion to get into. You allowed it to be discussed.
Mudenda: No, you see the members of parliament have threatened to go to court, so that matter is subjudice.
SC: Sorry?
Mudenda: The matter is subjudice and I am not discussing that.
SC: Because they have threatened to go to court?
Mudenda: Yeah I’m not discussing that.
SC: But then, Sir, aren’t you concerned?
Mudenda: I am not discussing that.
SC: Aren’t you concerned?
Mudenda: I am not discussing that. I am not discussing that.
SC: That we have a clear matter.
Mudenda: I am not discussing that.
SC: You talked about a threat Sir, you talked about a threat advocate.
Mudenda: I am not discussing that.
SC: You talked about a threat.
Mudenda: Can you stop it. Alright?
SC: Advocate, Advocate, a crime is being committed right now. People are dying.
Mudenda: Go to court. Go to court.
SC: Go to court where? People are dying right now in Zimbabwe advocate.
Mudenda: I am not.
SC: I have got; I have got victims of 1 August.
Mudenda: Can you also respect my point of view. Alright?
SC: Do you also respect the people who are suffering, Sir? Do you respect the victims who still have bullets in their bodies, Sir…the victims who still have bullets in their bodies right now?
Mudenda: Can you stop it. Alright. Can you stop it.
SC: Advocate, Advocate, you are the highest you are the most respected person in Zimbabwe you are here to represent parliamentarianism. What parliamentarianism is. You are the person we refer to; we respect you sir. We respect you. And I’ve come to you to ask you about this thing which we are being criticised for; our nation is being criticised right here, Sir.
Mudenda: Can you still stop it. This is not the forum.
SC: Why is it not the forum Sir?
Mudenda: Can you stop it.
SC: But you are the Speaker of Parliament.
Mudenda: Can you stop it. Haaah.
SC: I have got people who are crying I have got victims. Are you concerned that you are no longer the Speaker of Parliament you are now the Speaker of a military cartel?
Mudenda: Can you stop it.
SC: Stop what advocate, stop what?
Mudenda: Can you stop it.
SC: Stop what?
Mudenda: Can you stop it.
SC: But you are destroying our country. You are destroying a whole community. You are right now, even the perception of our nation (sic) Advocate Mudenda.
Are you happy that parliamentarianism has been violated advocate Mudenda? Tell me.
Mudenda: [NO RESPONSE]
So you are not willing to address concerns about parliamentarianism, you are here to represent parliamentarianism and you are mentally torturing MDC MPs adding to the physical torture to victims of violence on 1 August which was done to change election results and this was broadcast on the ZBC. Sergio Ramos scored the decisive spot-kick as Real Madrid beat Atletico Madrid 4-1 on penalties to win the Spanish Super Cup.
The Real captain sent Jan Oblak the wrong way to secure the trophy after a goalless 120 minutes in Saudi Arabia.
Saul Niguez and Thomas Partey missed their penalties for Atletico.
Real Madrid had ended the game with 10 men after Federico Valverde was sent off in extra time for fouling Alvaro Morata when he was clean through.
Spanish Super Cup – who, why and where?
The dramatic finale was at odds with what was a largely turgid encounter at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah.
Joao Felix had the best opportunity of a quiet first half, but he could only shoot wide from the edge of the box after he had been gifted possession by Ramos.
Real were much brighter at the start of the second period, with Serbia striker Luka Jovic driving just wide after he had wriggled past two Atletico defenders on the edge of the area.
Atletico did not manage a shot on target until the 79th minute, Kieran Trippier’s searching pass finding Morata, whose volley from the edge of the six-yard box was parried away by Thibaut Courtois.
The game’s major flashpoint came with five minutes remaining in extra time when Valverde cynically hacked down Morata just outside the area when he was clean through on goal, sparking a melee involving both sets of players.
In the shootout, Saul saw his spot-kick hit the post before Thomas’ effort was saved by Courtois, giving Ramos the chance to secure Real’s 11th Spanish Super Cup triumph.
The tournament had a new format this season, with the top two from La Liga and the Copa del Rey finalists playing in a four-team competition rather than the two winners playing each other.-Soccer World

Bacillus anthracis, the causative agent of anthrax.
Anthrax is a zoonotic disease to which most warm-blooded animals are susceptible. The disease is more common in animals and humans are incidental hosts. Human infections usually result from contact with infected animals or animal products. Direct exposure to secretions from cutaneous anthrax lesions may result in secondary cutaneous infection, but there have been no known cases of person-to-person transmission of inhalation disease
Anthrax in humans
Three main forms of anthrax infection in human exist, depending on where anthrax spores enter the body:
Cutaneous (or skin): due to spores entering a cut or break in the skin (about 95% of cases)
Inhalation: from breathing airborne spores into the lungs (about 5% of cases)
Gastrointestinal: from ingesting spores in raw or undercooked food (negligibly rare)
Clinical manifestations of anthrax in humans
Fever (38-40oC), being the only systemic symptom, may be accompanied by chills or night sweats.
Flu-like symptoms
Cough, usually non-productive
Chest discomfort, shortness of breath
Fatigue
Muscle aches
Sore throat, followed by difficulty swallowing, enlarged lymph nodes, headache, nausea, loss of appetite, abdominal distress, vomiting or diarrhea
A sore, especially on the face, arms or hands, that starts as a raised bump and develops into a painless ulcer with a black area in the center known as an eschar
Anthrax can enter the human body through
The skin (cutaneous) contact with spores, spore contaminated materials or infected skin lesions Infection usually requires an existing break in the skin to initiate infection, though in many cases this may be so small as to be unnoticed
The lungs: inhalation of spores
The intestines: ingestion of contaminated meat
People at risk of getting anthrax disease
Human cases usually occur in industrial or agricultural environments.
The most vulnerable groups to anthrax include
Farmers
Butchers and skinners
Tanners
Abattoir workers: e.g. meat inspectors, packers and graders
Veterinary workers
Leather/skin handlers
Consumers of uninspected meat
Food handlers
In Zimbabwe, most cases are not related to occupation. People are unwilling to forego the chance of eating meat or selling the hide even if it is from an infected animal.
In places where religious prohibitions (such as the apostolic sect in Zimbabwe) may prevent people handling and eating meat of animals that are sick or animals that die on their own, anthrax is uncommon.
Anthrax in animals
Most warm blooded species are susceptible to anthrax. The anthrax disease commonly occurs in wild and domesticated herbivorous animals that ingest or inhale the spores while grazing or foraging.
Clinical manifestations of anthrax in animals
The signs and symptoms of the diseases include
Cease feeding and drinking
Staggering and falling
Tremor, convulsions
Massive oedema
Swollen neck region lymph nodes in dogs and pigs
Difficulty in breathing
Bleeding from all orifices due to failure of blood clotting
Sudden death in cattle, sheep and goats
Note: Most infected animals die within a few days after infection
The characteristic findings on dead animals include
A rapidly decomposing carcass with a
blotted abdomen
Dark tarry blood stained exudates from all natural openings
Absence of rigor mortis
Un-clotted intravenous blood
Septicemia indicated by small petechial hemorrhages throughout
the body
Enlargement and softening of the spleen, and liver
Subcutaneous swelling (mainly neck and throat)
Note:
Since intense bacteraemia precedes death all the organs in the animal are infected. Even sun- dried bones from a rotten carcass remain an important source of infection. Meat and milk from infected animals should not be consumed.
Carcasses suspected of anthrax should NEVER be opened as this precipitates spore formation and contamination of the environment
High risk transmission areas in Zimbabwe
Areas where previous outbreaks have occurred
Drought prone areas (Region IV and V)
Areas with Calcium rich soils
Overstocked areas, mainly over-populated communal farming areas
Prevention and control in animals
Vaccination
Vaccinate animals within 12 kilometers radius from the nucleus of the outbreak area
Annual cattle vaccinations are recommended for high risk areas
Treatment of sick animals
Isolation and treatment of all symptomatic animals will be done using Penicillin or Tetracycline
followed by immunization of the animals on completion of treatment
The animals should not be used for food until a few months have passed
Prevention and control in human
Avoid eating meat and milk from affected areas
If anthrax is suspected avoid contact, skinning the animals and avoid contaminating the areas with animal products
Avoid skinning and opening up the carcasses as this releases the bacteria and promotes spore
formation which contaminates the environment
Protect carcasses of suspect cases from scavenging animals
Report all cases of animal sudden death to the police, Veterinary Department or Health Workers
In the event that the Veterinary Officer cannot be found, bury the carcass 2 metres deep with
quick lime or burn with paraffin/fire wood
Seek early treatment if one develops unexplained wound during the time when animals are
dying mysteriously
Allow mass vaccination of animals by the Veterinary Officers
Do not buy uninspected meat from vendors
Avoid handling of carcasses and products of suspected infected animals: hides, milk, dried
meat, etc…

Dear Secretary General
RE: RESIGNATION AS THE PRESIDENT FOR ZHDA
I cannot thank all the doctors enough for the opportunities the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA) has provided me. Working with you has been incredibly instrumental in my personal growth and I will never forget the struggle we go through everyday, trying to come up with a functional health delivery system that benefits all Zimbabweans and our welfare as doctors. ALUTA CONTINUA!
I regret to inform you that I am resigning from my position here, immediately as the President for ZHDA for personal reasons. I do not intend to inconvenience you with this news, and I hope you will accept my most sincere apologies in making Friday, the 24th of January 2020 my last day as the President of the aforementioned association, I know this is unexpected, but am happy to assist the association in the replacement process to help alleviate the transition.
I loved my job and I will look back on my time here with wonderful memories. May you all stay blessed!
Farai Dziva|Red-hot Warriors striker Tinotenda Kadewere is now a subject of a “bidding war” following recent reports that English Premier League sides Aston Villa and Newcastle have joined the race to sign Zimbabwean forward.
The 24-year-old Warriors striker, whose impressive form for French Ligue 2 side Le Havre has culminated interest from a host of clubs across Europe, has also seen his price tag rise from £10 million to £15 million as teams scramble for his signature in the January transfer window.
Football Insider exclusively revealed yesterday that Aston Villa, home to another Zimbabwe international Marvelous Nakamba, and the Steve Bruce-coached Newcastle, are keen on signing the former Harare City man.
Aston Villa have lost record signing Wesley Moraes to injury for the rest of the season and are more than likely to sign a replacement as their fight for top-flight football status continues.

The new board comprises of the following; Dr Fortune Nyamande (Chairperson), Dr Fungisai Mazhandu (Vice-Chairperson, Dr Norman Matara (Secretary), Dr Mufudzi Mushaninga (Treasurer), Dr Tendai Tsuro, Dr Artmore Chakanyuka, Dr Ratidzo Mugumbate, Mr Jeremiah Bamu (legal advisor), Dr Nyamande takes over from Dr Brighton Chizhande who served the ZADHR board with distinction and previously served as the Spokesperson of ZADHR.
It is our conviction as ZADHR that the new board will further entrench the values and pursue the mandate of the organization to ensure that the health and human rights of Zimbabweans are promoted, protected and defended.
We have no doubt that the esteemed new board of these outstanding individuals will bring new ideas for the growth of the organisation during their tenure.
As we welcome the new board and wish them the best as they work to continue serving the medical fraternity and the Zimbabwean citizens as a whole, we also take this opportunity thank Dr Chizhande and his team and wish them the best in their endeavours.
If I ever became Minister of Education, my first order of business would be introducing Civics to the school curriculum. People must know, read & understand their Constitution. They must be able to apply it to their daily lives. People will then understand why it's so important. pic.twitter.com/QxZcin2zgD
By A Correspondent | The United Kingdom has announced news laws that will see foreign spies being stopped from working in the country.
The new treason laws enforce registration for foreign agents and bring in toughened powers under the official secrets Act. They are developed to tackle hostile activity conducted by foreign states.
The revelations were made in Queen Elizabeth’s speech at the end of 2019.
She said, “Measures will be developed to tackle hostile activity conducted by foreign states.”
A BBC editor, Mark Urban commented saying, ”
“The Queens Speech statement ‘measures will be developed to tackle hostile activity conducted by foreign states’ heralds a long awaited push to update the Official Secrets Act + possible update to Treason Act & a US-style Aliens registration law.
“Although MI5 & police feel the secrets’ act has become largely unusable, Law Commission proposals in 2017 to update it sparked fears among journalists that a new law could be used to crack down on leaks to the media.
“Doubtless Whitehall mandarins want a more robust system for prosecuting leaks (Section 2 under the existing act), but they see the need to tackle foreign espionage, Section 1, as a more important driver for reform, e.g in making hacking of UK secrets from overseas an offence.
“So the proposed legislation will open up big questions about official secrets reform, whether it addresses ’21st Century Threats’ as promised & whether it has a chilling effect on reporting + whistle blowing.”
Also commenting on the development, Zimbabwean legal expert Dr Masimba Mavaza told ZimEye, “the proposed laws to combat activities of foreign states and official secrets act are a step towards eradicating terrorism. With the volatile situation in the Middle East, the laws will come in handy.
“While Iran is wounded, the chances of other countries taking up arms or engage in sabotage is very high.
“Any other country can cause or engage in terrrorist attacks in revenge of the events in the Middle East.
“So each nation has an obligation to maintain peace within its borders and to spread the peace abroad.”

Sometime ago I pointed out the current city council leadership must take a leaf from former Mayor Clr H.Fidze in terms of public relations.
Clr Fidze would take his time to use social media and various other platforms to inform residents about problems the city was facing. This is totally lacking…
If the leaders are media shy why cant they assign one of their top management person to do media briefings?
It’s a pity that after a local weekly newspaper published that the City Council is pumbing untreated water to residents there was no response from the council
Our leaders must understand that the story of untreated water is a very big health issue for every resident of Masvingo.
Farai Dziva|MaShurugwi are becoming more dangerous with each passing day.
On Thursday night MaShurugwi kidnapped a woman who was relieving herself in the bush before force-marching her to the homesteads where they stole money amounting to $2 000, US$300, P10 and four cellphones, according to Sunday News.
Deputy National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Blessmore Chishaka said:
“I can confirm that we recorded an armed robbery case which occurred at Mount Royal area in Fort Rixon. A gang of nine male adults who were armed with an AK-47 rifle and a pistol came across a lady who was relieving herself in the bush and they kidnapped her.
They force-marched her to a homestead in the area which is owned by a gold dealer.
“They forcibly gained entry into his house and demanded cash from him at gunpoint.
He gave them $1 000, US$30, P10 and three cellphones. They went to a second homestead where they also demanded cash and left with $250 and US$30.
They proceeded to another homestead where they robbed the complainant of $220 and US$32. The gang further went to another homestead where they demanded cash and they left with $500 and a cellphone. In each homestead they robbed, the gang force- marched their victims out of their homesteads and took them with them.
The gang went to a fifth homestead where they ordered their victims to lie on the ground facing down. They threatened to shoot anyone who would raise their head before fleeing the scene. The matter was reported to the police who attended the scene.”

Dear Colleagues RE: TEACHER INCAPACITAITON AND OPENING OF SCHOOLS
1. INTRODUCTION

Farai Dziva|A rogue Zanu PF councillor, Sengerayi Manyanga invaded the offices of Masvingo based radio station Hevoi FM on Saturday night and threatened to beat up head of current affairs Regis Chingawo.
See below a statement released by Masvingo Media Centre:
Press Freedom Crackdown In Masvingo
The Zimbabwe Union of Journalists, ZUJ, is deeply concerned by increasing threats to journalists working in Masvingo Province.
This follows threats made to Hevoi FM News Editor Regis Chingawo by a ruling Zanu PF councillor, Sengerayi Manyanga.
The councillor reportedly wants to control the radio station’s social media policy but his attempts have been thwarted.
Chingawo, a member of the ZUJ National Executive, told the national office last night that he did not feel safe and believed his life was now in danger.
The threats were made at the radio station’s offices towards midnight on Saturday 28 December in Masvingo town.
The small community of journalists in Masvingo has been left traumatised by the developments as they have recorded a huge increase in threats to freedom of expression in the province in the last quarter of the year.
According to information received from Masvingo, the councillor for ward 10 in Masvingo town is reported to have laid an ambush at the Hevoi FM News offices on the night.
Upon realising that Chingawo would not reveal himself , the councillor angrily confronted the security officer at the radio station and demanded to know Chingawo’s whereabouts and threatened to mobilize against the senior journalist.
The councillor was accompanied by a mob which remained in the background as he laid siege on the radio station.
A police report was made at Masvingo Central Police Station today.
ZUJ Secretary General Foster Dongozi said the issue of the safety and security of journalists continued to be a major concern for the Union with political parties and some security forces continuing to be the major culprits.
“We have also noticed a worrying trend in Masvingo Province in which the safety of journalists is threatened by rogue politicians and security details.
“The same rogue councillor has threatened to close another media organisation in the province while Masvingo Mirror senior journalist Nkulumani Mlambo was hounded out of a public event attended by donors by security aides in Chiredzi recently.”
The Secretary General called on the Zanu PF leadership in Masvingo to condemn acts of violence and impunity against journalists and freedom of expression.
“If journalists are harmed in Masvingo we will know who the culprits are. But beyond that, we can also see that there are some rogue and renegade elements who want to frustrate Zimbabwe’s global re engagement policy by continuing to soil its image so that it remains a pariah state.
“The government has assured us at the highest level that it does not have a policy of impunity against journalists and we would want it to take stern measures against those violating the rights and safety of journalists.”
Jane Mlambo| Chief Justice Luke Malaba has issued a strong warning against Machete thugs who of late have struck a chord of terror in the country.
Malaba issued the warning during his speech to mark the official opening of the 2020 legal year in Harare this morning.
He also expressed concern over poor salaries being given to Judges mainly as a result of hyperinflation and called for more funding to the Judiciary Services Commission in order to improve service.
Malaba also implored the National Prosecuting Authority to be diligent in its work and guard against bringing before the courts weak cases which end up frustrating the course of justice.

Zimbabwe Republic Police has banned machetes, knives and axes in the machete gang-infested Midlands as a way to restore order.
The ban comes after reports have suggested that the machete-wielding gangs known as Mashurugwi have been beating, killing and sexually abusing gold miners and civilians, particularly in gold mining towns.
The ban was announced by Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko who told the Daily News this Saturday that the ban which is expected to last for three-months will be with effect from January 14. He said:
The prohibition order which we seek to renew after every three months makes it illegal to carry dangerous weapons like machetes that can be used in the commission of crimes.
Those who fail to heed the call will be punished through being sent to jail for six months or instructed to pay a fine that doesn’t exceed level five.
Goko also told Daily News that gold-rich areas such as Chirumanzu, Gokwe North, Gokwe South, Gweru, Kwekwe, Mberengwa, Shurugwi and Zvishavane are the ones targeted by the ban.
Analysts have been saying that the machete gangs were enjoying impunity because they are highly connected.
Press Statement: The ZANU PF Youth League in its entirety condemns the heinous acts by the machete wielding gangs who have descended on the Mining sector and society at large. Many innocents have fallen victim to the callous act, lives have been lost and a number have been injured by the marauding criminals. It’s is also a matter of concern that some police officers on duty have also fallen victim to these criminals. As a public service gesture, the ZANU (PF) Youth League implores all our structures and the peace loving people of our beloved motherland Zimbabwe to be on alert and share with law enforcement agents any information which may lead to the arrest of the gangs who have caused havoc in our peaceful society.
In light of this unfortunate wave of criminality, the ZANU PF Youth League applauds the current efforts by the Zimbabwe Republic Police of hunting down these criminals. As a wing of the Party we do not condone such criminal acts by the heartless, deviant and callous gangs.
In addition, the League encourages the National Prosecution to valiantly oppose bail for those accused until their matters are finalized.
Furthermore, machete wielding gangs are a worse societal evil compared to even cattle rustling and as such should carry severe deterrent sentences like life imprisonment and lengthy sentences. We pray in this regard that Judicial Officers may give the maximum possible sentence for all individuals convicted of crimes involving machetes.
We also further hope the judicial system shall expedite these cases in sentencing, such that any one outside who feel obliged to follow in these terrible ways are quickly discouraged.
As a youth League we embrace the ethos of productivity, peace and unity and we are in solidarity with progressive institutions which are committed to end the wave of criminality by the machete wielding gangs.

Acting President Constantino Chiwenga’s estranged wife, Marry Mubaiwa has taken her husband to court accusing the retired military boss of abducting the couple’s minor children while she was languishing in remand prison.
In her urgent chamber application she filed in the High Court Thursday through her lawyers, Mtetwa and Nyambirai Legal Practitioners, the embattled former model claims she arrived at the family’s Borrowdale home soon after her release this month to find she was being barred from accessing her matrimonial premises.
She was in the company of family members and her legal team who witnessed her being blocked from entering the house.
“The applicant has not been given her three minor children,” reads part of the affidavit accompanying the court application.
“As a mother in an unregistered customary law union, the Applicant is the sole guardian and custodian of all children born in the union between the parties.
“Upon separation by whatever cause, she is entitled by operation of law to have the children delivered to her. This has not been done. The youngest of the children is five years old and needs the care and attention of the Applicant.
“The children had exclusively lived with the Applicant for a period of more than four months preceding their unlawful removal from her custody.”
Marry has also been barred from her business premises in Domboshava with some of her property from the Orchid Gardens having been taken away by a “military vehicle”.
Marry gave Chiwenga 24 hours to respond to the application, failure to which the matter will be set down for hearing at the High Court without further notice given to the retired General.
The VP’s young wife faces charges of attempting to kill her husband who was battling for life in a South African hospital sometime last year.
She also faces externalisation, money laundering and fraud, charges she all denies.
Her fresh troubles are seen in some quarters as an attempt to punish her by the VP following a messy fallout between the one time most powerful soldier and herself.
A Zanu PF councillor in Shurugwi’s Tongogara area has been arrested on allegations of stealing 10 bags of food aid meant for starving villagers in his area.
Tapiwa Ndawana of ward 10 was arrested on Tuesday following a report filed by Shurugwi assistant district co-ordinator Desmond Anele Gumbochuma, who is also chairperson of the district’s drought relief programme.
According to a leaked police memorandum, Ndawana (42) of Ndawana village under Chief Banga, received 919x50kgs bags of maize from Tongogara Grain Marketing Board on January 6.
He allegedly transported the first batch of 330 bags of maize to Donga Council, while the remaining 589 bags were delivered to Banga and Matsika business centres for distribution to needy villagers.
Ndawana then allegedly connived with his co-accused Taurai Dongo (36) of Mhangami Mahachi village, Chief Banga, to steal 37 bags of the maize, claiming there was a shortfall at Matsika Business Centre.
Ndawana allegedly instructed a security guard at the council workshop to hand over the 37 bags of maize to Dongo, who then hired a commuter omnibus, registration number AEG 4293, and took the 37 bags of maize to Gweru, where he sold the grain to Tondereai Muzanenhamo for $4 800.
Police received a tip-off about the scam, leading to the accused’s arrest and recovery of only five bags of maize.
The total value of the stolen grain is $6 722 and $1 055 was recovered. The case was investigated under ZRP Donga Post RRB number 4152573.
Ndawana and Dongo yesterday appeared before Shurugwi magistrate Sthabile Zungula and were remanded in custody to January 15.
There was drama before the court hearing when a traditional healer believed to have been hired by the councillor performed some rituals inside the court premises before he was whisked away by security officials.

According to an eye witness Claris Madhuku, the Toyota Landcruiser which was pulling a trailer full of fish overturned along the Ngundu-Tanganda highway, though no one was injured.
“The reason for the accident was a combination of speed and mechanical fault. The trailer carrying a dam of fish lopsided first in response to sudden breaking causing the car to overturn twice .We helped to disconnect the battery from the car since fuel was now spilling with a possibility of the car catching fire.
“With the villagers who had gathered we assisted the trio to get their most treasured items inclusive of their cell phones and monies. Correspondent|There’s nothing quite like a 6-1 loss to the reigning Premier League champions to highlight your club’s need for a new striker.
Aston Villa were at their comedic worst in defence against Manchester City on Sunday – home fans were already walking out before half an hour had even been played – but Dean Smith’s side didn’t show anywhere near enough on the ball either.
Villa will likely be without summer signing Wesley for the remainder of the season, and it was Anwar El Ghazi who deputised for the injured Brazilian on Sunday.
The Dutchman is sound technically. He can pass well and is very confident with the ball at his feet. But El Ghazi isn’t a target man who can occupy defenders and bring his teammates into play – he isn’t a Wesley.
It’s bad enough for El Ghazi trying to play as the lone striker against most teams, but City’s more than 65 per cent possession made his impact on the game even more important – and even more important when nothing came off.
Villa will get points off teams in and around them simply due to the individual quality they have on display and that might be enough to keep their heads above water, but the club will put themselves under unnecessary pressure if they don’t bring in a new striker this month.
Wesley wasn’t perfect. No one is trying to suggest that he was. But the 23-year-old has been a useful player against the big teams specifically, while his hold-up play has allowed Jack Grealish to be the star man against the rest.
Without the Brazil international against City, both El Ghazi and Grealish were isolated in attack and couldn’t get themselves on the ball. Playing with a back three didn’t help that either, as the visitors won (or, more accurately, were given) free reign in midfield.
Aston Villa’s defence will grab the headlines on the back pages and rightly so. It was among the most self-destructive performances from a back-five that you’ll be able to think of off the top of your head.
But for the club to move forward and most importantly to stay in the Premier League beyond this season, signing a new striker is absolutely the most important thing for Aston Villa to do during the January transfer window.
Villa shouldn’t limit their January spending to just a new striker because their defence desperately needs a facelift, but things won’t improve in the West Midlands until a replacement forward is brought into the club.

Mzaca’ Ngulube and three other assailants were late last year convicted of burning three cars and property of a house belonging to Zanu-PF Bulawayo provincial women’s league chairperson Eva Bitu.
Ngulube (34), Fortune Masuku (29), Melusi Moyo (32) and Otilia Sibanda (34) were found guilty of malicious damage to property during the violent January protests.
Lavenda Moyo (66), their co-accused, was found not guilty and acquitted.
Mzaca Ngulube’s lawyer Nqobani Sithole said that the Prisons and Correctional Services indicated that they were transferring Ngulube and his colleagues to Harare on unclassified security reasons.
He said that they will try to resist the transfer as the activists do not have relatives in Harare who will be able to visit them and provide them with food as they have been doing at Khami Prison.
Ngulube has since challenged the incarceration.
Ngulube contested last year’s parliamentary elections as an independent candidate in Bulawayo South constituency before joining the MDC early this year.
Sithole said Ngulube was in “high spirits” though having some health challenges.
“He is in high spirits. We knew that regardless of his defence the probability of his conviction was high…he was prepared and not taken by surprise by the unfair conviction…otherwise, we are filing an appeal at the High Court against his unfair conviction,”
Own Correspondent|President Emmerson Mnangagwa will today yet again break his official leave to meet with the visiting Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Under normal circumstances, Yi should have held the closed door meeting with Acting President Constantino Chiwenga but highly placed sources within the presidency have indicated to ZimEye.com that Mnangagwa has bulldozed himself back into the office to meet with Yi.
The sources indicated that Mnangagwa appears to be jittery on Chiwenga’s relations with China and would not have his deputy meet with the Chinese alone.
Mnangagwa is officially on leave until the end of January but last week took a surprise appearance when he decided to meet the Presidential Advisory Committee which was meant to have met with Chiwenga as the Acting President.
Historically, former President Robert Mugabe would take his leave and go out of the country throughout the period but uncertain Mnangagwa opted to have his leave in the country where he has been making sporadic appearances at his official duties.
Chiwenga was treated in China for over four months and on his return to Zimbabwe after a long spell was met by the Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe with Mnangagwa not aware of the unexpected return of his deputy.
Speculations are high that Chiwenga is working with the Chinese on a plan to remove Mnangagwa from power in another coup.
Mnangagwa was propelled to presidency by Chiwenga who was then commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces in a military coup over former President Robert Mugabe.
Illegal mining is mining activity that is undertaken without state permission, in particular in absence of land rights, mining licenses, and exploration or mineral transportation permits.
Illegal mining can be a subsistence activity, as is the case with artisanal mining, or it can belong to large-scale organized crime, spearheaded by illegal mining syndicates as witnessed in Kwekwe and the Mashurugwi menace. On an international level, approximately 80 percent of small-scale mining operations can be categorized as illegal. Despite the President of Zimbabwe embracing the illegal miners calling them artisan mines some of the artisan miners have become a liability to the nation.
With the laxity in the affairs of the illegal miners and their Mashurugwi brothers the nation has been faced with a lot of long term problems caused by these miners.
The artisan miners are barely supervised by the mining inspectors as a result a lot of illegal things are done in the mining areas.
Urban water is heavily contaminated and Zim have no capacity to eliminate heavy metal toxins and Dissolved chemicals. Remember these impurities are from the source point (lack chivero) Morton Jeffrey plant is designed to eliminate organic waste and bacterial contamination. What we need is a plant that is designed to test heavy metal contaminates.
With unknown chemicals used by these miners the water in our dams is polluted by poisonous chemicals and these chemicals are not separated from the domestic waters and only God knows the effects of such chemicals.
For example water sources like mazowe river are no longer safe as artisanal miners have contaminated the water with mercury a heavy metal that have inhibiting properties plus cyanide a serious poison. These chemicals have killed fish and other creatures which normally deal with the echo system in our waters. The absence of these creatures create an un purified waters. Our water cleaning system does not normally target this as the plants were designed to deal with fresh water sources.
The artisanal miners supported by Mashurugwi normally use mercury which is used in artisanal and small-scale gold mining.
Mercury is mixed with gold-containing materials, forming a mercury-gold amalgam which is then heated, vaporizing the mercury to obtain the gold.
This process can be very dangerous and lead to significant mercury exposure and health risks. In some jurisdictions, mercury use may be illegal or restricted in certain ways.
Because of the lack of inspection the Mashurugwi will dispose the mercury in the drinking waters and that which escapes in the ground contaminated the water tables.
The Minamata Convention on Mercury, a global agreement for reducing mercury pollution, recognizes the risks of using mercury in artisanal and small-scale gold mining, and calls upon nations to reduce, and where feasible eliminate mercury use in this sector.
Although many miners use mercury in artisanal and small-scale gold mining, it is possible to safely and economically recover gold without it. Mercury-free techniques are safer for miners, their families and local communities.
They may also help miners market their gold at higher prices.
Many artisanal and small-scale miners are achieving high rates of gold recovery without mercury, benefiting their health, the health of their communities, and the environment.
With the violent reception at the hands of Mashurugwi inspection becomes dangerous.
The Mashurugwi have most recently graduated from Machetes to AK 47 and handguns in their illegal wielding of power.
Most illegal Gold mining is sponsored by the trusted ministers.
This past week Dexter Nduna MP and a senior police Officer stationed in Chegutu were arraigned before a Magistrate for illegal mining and behaving like Mashurugwi.
A well known senior minister in Kwekwe is suspected of funding the Mashurugwi.
Only few years back there was a massacre of elephants by poachers using cyanid poison.
Some senior police officers where arrested in the cyanid scandal.
Now the Cyanid and mercury makes a dangerous concoction which is dangerous and destructive.
Dr Promise Mnikwa stated that the effects of cyanid and Mercury will kill half of Zimbabwe in few years.
The dangers faced by the nation are unimaginable. Mr Tongai NCUBE a scientist from UK said things are falling apart and the nation will be halved soon if action is not taken.
The government can introduce ways of producing gold without use of Mercury.
Concentration means increasing the amount of gold in ore or sediment, by selectively removing lighter particles. If employed effectively, concentration methods can eliminate or greatly reduce the need for mercury.
Before concentration can begin, ore must be crushed or milled to liberate gold particles from rock and to decrease grain size.
Concentration works best when grain size of the milled material or sediment is relatively consistent, so that most particles are of similar size. An appropriate grain size can be achieved using screens or sieves.
. Magnetic or chemical properties can also be exploited to enhance concentration.
Each mining operation is unique.
Concentration methods must be selected after considering factors such as the type of ore or sediment, other minerals present, gold particle size, and the availability of water and electricity.
Panning uses water to separate heavy gold particles from other lighter particles within a medium sized pan.
In this process sediment or ore thought to contain gold is placed in a wide, curved pan along with water. The miner moves the pan in a series of motions designed to eject lighter sediments. The density of gold keeps it on the bottom of the pan as lighter material is ejected along with water.
After a series of successful iterations have been completed, gold will be exposed on the bottom of the pan for the miner to recover.
Then miners can employ gold recover methods such as direct smelting although many panning operations lead to directly recoverable gold.
Panning offers miners a low cost method of gravity concentration but it requires time and skill to be effective.
Sluices use water to wash ore or alluvium down a series of angled platforms.
As water washes sediment down a sluice, gold particles sink and are captured by material covering the bottom of the sluice, often carpets. Sluices are usually inclined at 5 to 15 degree angle. As moving water travels down a sluice, it generates greater force and keeps gold particles from sinking easily. For this reason most gold is captured at the beginning of the sluice.
Carpets or other capturing devices on the bottom of sluices can be removed and washed in a bucket to remove the captured dense material.
Sluice design can lead to higher gold recovery if the force of the water traveling through the sluice is decreased. A series of rifles can help break the flow to improve recovery.
A zig zag sluice also achieves this by creating a drop between the first and second platform that disrupts the velocity of the water as it travels down the sluice.
A simpler alternative to the zig zag sluice is a combination of two sluice surfaces. The first is tilted at a steeper angle then the second, decreasing the velocity of the water as it hits the second sluice, increasing gold recovery.
Sluices can be relatively expensive or affordable depending on the complexity of their design.
Simple sluices can be a single angled platform a few feet in length and others can be very elaborate.
Having an available and consistent water supply is necessary to have a functioning sluice operation. This can be done with piping, drums, buckets, or natural flowing water bodies. A constant flow will be better than a bucket-driven flow.
Sluices are good at concentrating large amounts of ore and sediment in a relatively short time but often do not yield concentrates with high amounts of gold. The resulting concentrate must usually undergo further methods of concentration, such as panning.
Magnets can be used to remove magnetic minerals such as magnetite from concentrate. They can be used after or in conjunction with other method of concentration.
One technique for extracting magnetic minerals is to place hand held magnets on the bottom of a pan containing dried concentrate to separate metallic from non metallic material. Care must be taken to avoid losing gold particles during the separation. It can be helpful to cover the magnet with a piece of paper. After magnetic minerals are attracted to the surface of the paper, it is removed to easily discard the metallic material.
Separation methods, like the ones described above, if employed properly, should yield a high-grade concentrate with a large proportion of gold relative to other materials.
However, this gold still needs to be separated from the other remaining minerals before it can be sold. At this point in the process, direct smelting can often be employed as the final stage of gold recovery.
In direct smelting high-grade concentrate is heated until the gold melts. The liquid is then cooled to form a solid mass of gold dore, a semi pure gold alloy, that can reach upwards of 95% purity.
If concentrate is of poor quality (low gold percentage and high amounts of other minerals) the melt may need to be poured into another structure, such as a cupple, to separate the impurities from the gold. When melt is poured into the cupple, gold and other metals will sink as silicates and other minerals rise to the top, forming slag. When these materials harden the gold can be easily separated from the slag.
The slag frequently contains addition gold that can be recovered through reprocessing.
Cyanide is often the preferred chemical used in leaching. Cyanide is highly toxic and great care must be taken when using it.
However, in contrast to mercury, cyanide is does not persist in the environment.
Who can help in these.
Own Correspondent|Aston Villa slipped back into the Premier League relegation places with a big loss on Sunday.
After two wins from three in the top flight, villa were brushed aside by Manchester City losing 6-1 at Villa Park.
Coupled with Watford’s 3-0 victory over fellow relegation candidates Bournemouth earlier in the day, it means they are still firmly entrenched in relegation trouble.
Smith handed a debut to on-loan Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater, one of three changes from the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg draw with Leicester City.
Conor Hourihane and Ahmed Elmohamady were the other two to come in, while Frederic Guilbert, Marvelous Nakamba and Trezeguet dropped out.
City, as expected, bossed the ball early on and penned Villa back into their own half. They opened the scoring after 18 minutes.
Sergio Aguero played square, Kevin De Bruyne’s lovely dummy allowed the ball to reach Riyad Mahrez. Mahrez took the ball on, waltzed into the box past weak challenges from Drinkwater and Kortney Hause, and fired in at the near post.
The second arrived six minutes later and it was more poor defending from the hosts. Drinkwater was robbed of the ball in his own box by David Silva, following good work from Aguero, and the ball fell to Mahrez, who slammed home from ten yards
A devastating 10-minute period was completed by Aguero. De Bruyne was the architect as he fed his team mate, about 20 yards out, to rifle one past Orjan Nyland for 3-0. The shot did have power, but Nyland got hands to it and couldn’t quite keep it out.
fourth could have arrived before the 45th-minute, but it was 4-0 on the stroke of half-time when De Bruyne charged into the vacant space down Villa’s left, sent in an excellent low cross and Gabriel Jesus was on hand to fire home.
The fifth arrived 12 minutes after the restart, David Silva the provider this time to Aguero, who skipped past Elmohamady, Tyrone Mings backed off, and Aguero curled into the bottom corner from about 12 yards.
The visitors could have had more – notably when Mings cleared one off the line and Jesus twice came close – and a sixth did arrive nine minutes from time.
It was the matchball for Aguero as Hause gave the ball inexplicably to Mahrez, who played in Aguero and he finished with aplomb to seal an emphatic win that moved them back to second in the table.
El Ghazi did score a penalty with the last kick of the game but it meant little in the grand scheme of things.
