Chiefs Nearly Exchange Blows At Funeral

By A Correspondent- The long standing feud between Chiefs Council president Chief Fortune Charumbira and newly installed Chief Nemamwa recently escalated at a funeral when representatives from the two chieftaincies nearly exchanged blows over legitimacy issues.

During Serina Mangoma’s funeral in Nyoka Village near Chief Charumbira’s homestead last weekend, Charumbira clansmen disrupted the funeral programme and threatened to bash the Nemamwa chieftaincy representative Munyaradzi Mureyi who had been asked to give a speech.

The director of ceremonies called Mureyi to give a speech on behalf of Chief Nemamwa since the deceased was from the Nemamwa clan, much to the displeasure of the Charumbira clansmen who insisted they did not recognize the Nemamwa chieftainship.

Speaking to TellZim News after the incident, Mureyi said the program had been progressing smoothly until Mureyi was called him to speak on behalf of Chief Nemamwa and that is when Cephas Marashanye who is originally from Nemamwa but is a Charumbira sympathiser threatened to bash him if he speaks.

“Marashanye stood up and told me not to speak, at first I thought he wanted to speak himself since he is originally from Nemamwa but is a Charumbira sympathiser. I told him to speak instead but he said there was no Chief Nemamwa.

He then came and pushed me around and other people from Chief Charumbira’s side rose and threatened joined in shouting that there was no Nemamwa. I was pushed from around and I think it was a pre planed thing.

I later on managed to escape and the Director of ceremonies had to skip the chief’s part. I have since reported the matter to the police.”said Mureyi

Chief Charumbira confirmed the incident and said he was not there but saw videos of the clash and said the incident was not a new thing.

“I can confirm that there was an incident at a funeral involving people from Charumbira and Nemamwa.  I was not there but I got videos of what happened and it is normal where there are chieftaincy issues.

Chief Charumbira rubbished the resuscitation of Nemamwa chieftainship saying it was a fraud which has no legal basis to support it.

“However, the issue emanates from the politics at play that seeks to make  Nemamwa a chief. The move is irregular and illegal at law. It has no merit and they have no basis whatsoever,” said Charumbira.

He went on to say they were ready to contest it up to the highest court.

“We as the Charumbira people will contest that at the highest level. There are no records to show that Nemamwa was once a chief so there is nothing to revive. However, It is normal for a headman or village head to dream to become a Chief and the Nemamwa people were also dreaming.

“Nemamwa has been Headman since time immemorial and no one is interfering with that. If he wants to be a chief, he has to follow protocol and see if there is any basis for that. He was supposed to come to me as the Chief to tell me or go through the government which in turn would notify me,” said Charumbira.

Masvingo Provincial Development Coordinator (PDC), Dr Jefta Sakupwanya said he was not aware of the incident but said incidents of that nature are common between rival chiefs and revealed that the installation of Chief Nemamwa was imminent.

He said the installation of Nemamwa was stalled by the covid-19 induced lockdown saying if the situation improves they will sit with the chief’s council and deliberate on the way forward.

“It is quite normal to have such incidents. We however do not encourage people to engage in violence. We are waiting for the Covid-19 induced lockdown to be lifted, then we meet with the provincial chief’s council to discuss  the way forward.

“We are also waiting for a team from Harare that will draw the boundary lines between the feuding chiefs,” said Dr Sakupwanya.

The Charumbira clansmen are not new to controversy as they have been involved in battles against Bere clansmen before and after installation of Chief Bere.

A few years ago, government resuscitated Bere chieftaincy, a move that saw Charumbira losing a large portion of his land to Bere.

The revival and elevation of Nemamwa from headman to chief further threatens the survival of Charumbira who now presides over a few wards which lowers him to a headman.

The Second Republic is on a drive to solve colonial historical ‘anomalies’ which they say will address the case of Charumbira and Nemamwa, where the former was allegedly given land by the latter and therefore cannot be chief while the one who gave him land is a headman.

The Nemamwa clan has since nominated Tranos Manjiva as their Chief and is awaiting installation.

Government has also restored the Neromwe chieftainship and reclaimed their land from Chief Tshovani in Chiredzi.

Early white settlers on numerous acts of sabotage had abolished some chieftainships and pegged their land for white farmers while the native inhabitants were moved to other places.

Parliament Blocks Unvaccinated MPs

By A Correspondent- The Parliament has announced that unvaccinated legislators will not enter the parliament building.

Deputy Speaker Tsitsi Gezi announced Wednesday that they had tasked security personnel to block any MP showing up without proof they have been inoculated against Covid-19.

“I have to inform the House that the Committee on Standing Rules and Orders met and resolved that physical meetings can now resume for fully vaccinated Members and support staff.
“The production of Covid-19 PCR test certificate is mandatory for unvaccinated Members and staff.
“From 13th September 202, security personnel at the entrance have been instructed to demand vaccination certificates or valid Covid-19 PCR test certificates issued 48 hours earlier and will be valid for each week.”
The Deputy Speaker said a “maximum of 10 persons inclusive of Hon. Members, staff and invitees will be permitted to attend meetings physically in compliance with social distancing guidelines”.
She added, “In the National Assembly and Senate Chambers, the maximum number of persons allowed will be 100 and 80 respectively including support staff. Committees are encouraged to use a hybrid of physical and virtual meetings.
“Chief Whips have to ensure compliance with the requirements of allowable Hon. Members. Committees will determine those to attend either physically or virtually.”
Those who will not be accommodated in Committee Rooms or Chambers will participate from their hotel rooms.
Zimbabwe is keep to notch a vaccination herd immunity of 10 million citizens by end of year.
However, due to continued reluctance by citizens to show up for the free inoculation programme, government and some local firms have used the production of vaccination certificates as a condition for one to access allowances, sit for examinations or sit for a meal in a restaurant, among some of the conditions.

Madhuku Rescues Harare Man Who Rammed Into Valerio Sibanda’s Motorcade

By A Correspondent| Top lawyer Professor Lovemore Madhuku has rescued a Harare motorist who rammed into Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander, General Phillip Valerio Sibanda’s motorcade along Samora Machel Avenue last week.

The motorist Sinoia Desmond was sentenced to 12 months in jail for negligent driving but Madhuku who is also the President of the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) party was able to argue for him to be granted bail pending appeal.

Assisted by Tawanda Takaendesa, Madhuku argued that the lower court “improperly exercised its discretion in respect of sentence in that an effective sentence of 12 months imprisonment is so manifestly excessive and so disturbingly inappropriate in all the circumstances of this case as not only to induce a sense of shock but also as an instance of an exercise in irrationality.”

Justice Webster Chinamhora of the Harare High Court said Sinoia Desmond’s appeal had bright prospects of success as he ordered him released on Z$50,000 bail.

Madhuku and Takaendesa also said having decided on an effective custodial sentence of less than 24 months, the magistrate grossly misdirected herself and erred at law in imposing a custodial sentence without giving serious consideration to a non-custodial sentence such as a fine or community service.

The lawyers said the Road Traffic Act (Chapter 31:11) provides for a penalty of a fine or imprisonment for the crime of reckless driving, but Mateko improperly exercised her discretion in imposing imprisonment with giving full consideration to the option of a fine.

Desmond’s trial heard that just before 5PM on August 23, he was driving on a side road parallel to Samora Machel Avenue going towards Msasa with one passenger.

Desmond failed to give way at the intersection of Samora Machel and Glenara Avenue and ploughed into the side of Sibanda’s Mercedes Benz driven by Mandlenkosi Mpofu.

General Sibanda was sitting at the back and on the left side which was impacted by Desmond’s vehicle. Sibanda’s aide, Squadron Leader Mark Pride Mangwende, was the other passenger in the Mercedes.

No-one was injured in the crash but prosecutor Caroline Mutimusakwa – who argued for a custodial sentence – said General Sibanda was “almost killed”, adding: “Desmond wanted to plunge the nation into mourning by killing the commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces.

“He was negligent for failing to observe a regulatory provision, failing to give way at a Give Way sign, travelling at a speed which was excessive under the circumstances and failing to stop or act reasonably when accident or collision seemed imminent.”

High Court Blocks The Release Of 53 Smuggled Cars

By A Correspondent- The High Court has blocked the release by Zimra of vehicles imported by 53 people as it is suspected they were brought into the country using fake import licences in what is a far-reaching swathe of sneaky dealings in the vehicle import business.

Zimra is holding a large batch of vehicles at the behest of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, which is investigating several of its officials on allegations of corruptly issuing import licences for older second-hand vehicles.

More than eight import licence books went missing in April this year.

The 53 vehicle importers, among them car dealers, had approached the High Court on an urgent basis seeking to compel Zimra to release their vehicles.
They listed Zimra, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission(ZACC) and the Minister of Industry and Commerce as respondents.
But already, some of the import licences have been traced back to the missing licence books, the High Court was told and so Justice Esther Muremba ruled the application was not urgent and tossed it out.
In her ruling, Justice Muremba said the vehicles were imported using fake licences and were still under investigation by ZACC.

“There was no compliance with the law. It does not matter that the applicants might have not played any role in the issuance of the fake import licences,” she said.
In opposing the application, ZACC said it was investigating a case of corruption regarding the vehicles, arguing they were subjects of illegal import licences or permits.
Although it was the Ministry officials who issued the illegal import licences, it was argued that the investigations were being done to establish whether or not there was connivance with the applicants.
On its part, the ministry argued that the import licences that were used to import the applicants’ vehicles are fake, and so the detention of the vehicles was justified at law.
Justice Muremba in the ruling found the explanation that was given by the Industry Minister for suspecting collusion between the applicants and the Ministry officials who issued fake import licences was sound.
“Clearly from the foregoing, the relief that is being sought by the applicants is such that it cannot be sought on an urgent basis in view of the investigations that are still on going,” she said.

“This is one case where preferential treatment of applicants’ case is not possible because investigations into fake import licences have not yet completed by the second and third respondents (ZACC and the Industry Ministry).”
Justice Muremba said non-legal remedies might have worked well for the applicants before they rushed to court. They could have worked with ZACC to expedite investigations.
She said the applicants could not rush to court to enforce an illegality.
“Clearly the applicants jumped the gun and there cannot be any urgency in the matter,” said the judge striking the matter from the roll of urgent matters.
The applicants all paid import duty and the vehicles were delivered into the country through Beitbridge Border Post. At the instance of Zimra, the vehicles were delivered to different bonded warehouses or transit sheds for storage. That is where the applicants were supposed to collect them.
However, when the applicants went to collect their vehicles, they were not allowed to collect them because the import licences which they used to import the vehicles were said to be under investigations. Government this year, introduced Statutory Instrument I89, which barred imports of motor vehicles that are more than 10 years old from the date of manufacture without clearance.

Norton Man Hides 14-Year-Old Wife, Goes Into Hibernation

By A Correspondent- A Norton man has hidden his 14-year-old wife before going into hibernation, fearing arrest.

Tapiwa Muza went into hiding after the police launched a manhunt on him for impregnating his 14-year-old girlfriend.

The girl’s mother, who is based in South Africa, heard about her daughter’s pregnancy and threatened to take legal action against Muza, who stays with his grandmother in Glaudina.

Muza told H-Metro that he is living in fear over the threats of arrest he received and was at a safe house in Domboshava.

The girl’s mother told the same publication that she approached Dzivaresekwa police station for assistance with a view to taking her daughter from Muza.

She claimed Muza forced her daughter to switch off her mobile phone and instructed her to go to Chitungwiza where she collected her belongings and disappeared to an unknown place after they learnt that she (the mother) was in the country.

She said:

That forced me to seek guidance from police at Dzivaresekwa and the officers led me to Glaudina where Muza and the daughter were reported to have been in hiding.

I cannot allow my daughter to marry at that age and I am prepared to take her.

Muza’s uncle Elisha Marumahoko said the girl’s mother instructed them to keep the girl away from Muza until she arrives in the country. Said Marumahoko:

I was shocked to see her coming in the company of police officers demanding to see the girl and Muza.

Muza is in Domboshava and the whereabouts of the girl is not known since the day she went to her mother in Chitungwiza.

We are aware that Muza impregnated a minor and it’s a case but the girl’s mother failed to be honest with her real decision.

Muza confirmed to H-Metro that he was staying in Domboshava and living in fear. He said:

I am prepared to marry the girl… I am not abusing her as alleged but I fear arrest over impregnating the minor.

The mother also revealed that she separated from her daughter’s father when she was only two years old.

The issue of child marriages has been in the spotlight of late after Annah Machaya, a 14-year-old girl, died during childbirth at a Johanne Marange Apostolic sect shrine in Bocha.

Anna’s husband, Hatirarami “Evans” Momberume was arrested and his cases are pending before the courts.

Woman Kills Lover, Burns Body

A woman accused of killing her live-in lover before burning and burying his remains on a mountain was made to dig him up with a shovel while police officers taunted her, a video seen by ZimLive shows…

A police detective yelled “fuseki iwe” (f**k you) at Siphathisiwe Sifiso Dube, 49, as she retrieved the remains of Stanley Moyo from a shallow mountain grave in Siyaphambili Village in Filabusi.

“If I had come alone, I would have made her eat his intestines,” the detective adds as Dube busily places the reported human remains in a sack.

Police later ordered Dube – said to be a mum of seven – to carry the remains from the mountain on her head.

The unusual police methods used in the recovery of Moyo’s body would horrify even rookie detectives in other countries where victims and suspects are both treated with dignity, with forensic teams often assigned to secure the integrity of crime scenes and collect evidence.

Dube appeared before Filabusi regional magistrate Abednico Ndebele last Friday accused of teaming up with her son, Mqondisi Mnkandla, 20, and brother, Bhekimpilo Nkomo, 42, to kill Moyo following a domestic dispute.

The trio allegedly buried Moyo in a shallow grave on a nearby mountain, but after a few days discovered that dogs had dug the body up and were feasting on it. They then allegedly decided to burn the body, before reburying what remained.

In the video believed to have been shot by police officers, the detectives are heard demanding to be shown Moyo’s intestines and legs which are apparently missing.

Prosecutor Shepherd Moyo did not say what led to the August 16 killing which has horrified locals.

Ndebele remanded the trio to September 16 and advised them to appeal for bail at the High Court.

Ward 1 councillor Festas Ndlovu told reporters Dube and Moyo “had a history of fighting.”

“I gather they had fought before this tragic incident. Moyo had also tried to burn the woman in one of their huts,” Ndlovu said.

Dube was a widower who took in Moyo as a live-in lover, according to Ndlovu.

“Neighbours began enquiring where the man was when he could not be seen in the homestead. I understand a child who was staying with them told friends what happened until the matter reached the elders,” Ndlovu said.

Chamisa exposes Chigumba’s 2023 Election Rigging Plan

By A Correspondent- The Nelson Chamisa led MDC Alliance has confronted the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) over the voter registration process.

The party reached out to Registrar General’s office and complained about ZEC’s failure to register new voters especially the youths.

“The existing facilities are underutilised, and it is clear that no system is responsive to reality on the ground, which are the issues we are highlighting. We are, therefore, proposing that all of us put sufficient pressure on ZEC to do what they are capable of doing by the law, and we wonder why they are not doing it.
In 2017, when the BVR (Biometric Voter Registration) was introduced, we had enough registration kits. Those kits are now gathering dust and it is a shame that we collectively allow that kind of thing to continue”, MDC Alliance Secretary for elections Ian Makone told journalists in Harare at a press conference.

Makone called on both ZEC and the registrar’s offices to decentralise their operations to enable citizens to acquire identification documents and register to vote.

Party spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said the MDC Alliance’s focus was assisting the youths in registering to vote.

” Our clear message for the young is to register to vote. Once you register to vote, the kind of change we promise is change that actually services your needs,” said Mahere.

Reforms A Must Before Polls- Election Resource Centre

As citizens continue to motivate each other to register to vote, the Election Resource Centre (ERC) reminds the nation that for the people’s will to be reflected in the outcome of any election, there is a need to strengthen electoral processes which are accepted by all and sundry.

Zimbabwe’s elections have in the past suffered a credibility test which has resulted in the electorate losing confidence in the electoral system. For Zimbabwe to increase the credibility of elections, there needs to be an urgent need to address the following five (5) key areas:

1-Public Broadcaster and Media Coverage: All political parties must be granted equal media coverage by the public broadcasters and publishers. This ensures that citizens have access to information on all political parties and candidates contesting in elections as supported by the electoral laws.

The media plays an important role in helping citizens to hold elected officials accountable thus access to information by voters and equal access to the electorate by parties and candidates is important and must be objective.

2-The Conduct of Traditional Leaders: As per the dictates of the Constitution of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Traditional leaders must not further the interests of any political party or candidate or in any way participate in partisan politics. Compliance with the law is of paramount importance in order to ensure a balanced political and electoral environment.

Traditional leaders should, instead, facilitate equitable access to communities by all parties canvassing for support and ensure that the voter has access to information necessary to make an informed decision at the polls.

3- Independence of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC):- In administering its constitutional mandate to oversee elections, ZEC must be impartial and independent. ZEC’s activities, decisions and roles MUST not be influenced by anyone. More so, there ought to be transparency and accountability (responsibility to justify actions or decisions) to citizens, political parties and independent observers.

Ensuring verifiability (demonstration of accuracy beyond reasonable doubt) and inclusivity (providing equal access) of processes will enhance public confidence in the Commission. These processes extend to voter mobilisation and education, ballot printing, results transmission and political parties and civil society engagement.

4-Conduct of The Security Services: Security services must be professional, respect the rule of law and ensure that the electoral and political environment remains conducive for free and fair elections. The security services must respect the fundamental rights and freedoms of all persons and be non-partisan, national in character, patriotic, professional and subordinate to the civilian authority as established by the Constitution, (Constitution 211 (3).

5-Election Dispute Resolution (Mechanisms): There is a need to create accessible and functional mechanisms that ensure that electoral disputes are resolved, strengthening confidence and ensuring the credibility of electoral processes.

ZEC, ZRP and ZHRC must ensure compliance with criminal and electoral justice systems including fair investigation and immediate redress of complaints and reports of violence.

The mechanism of Multi-Party Liaison Committees must be decentralised to lower levels from the current national and provincial tiers.

Conclusively, voter registration should be complemented with the implementation of electoral reforms

Grobbelaar Ready To Coach Warriors

Warriors legend Bruce Grobbelaar says he is now ready to coach to the Warriors for the last time in his career.

Grobbelaar has managed the national team before, with his first spell coming in 1997 as a player-coach and then in 1998 on a full time basis.

Speaking with Alois Bunjira on the Intouch With Legends show, Grobbelaar said he wants to return to Warriors fold should the post become vacant anytime from now.

“I would like to have the last dance with the Warriors right now,” he said.

Asked why he has taken long to approach ZIFA over the job, Grobbelaar added: “They (ZIFA) already have got someone (Zdravko Logarusic) whom I feel hasn’t been the best…

“He is probably the worst manager the country has ever had, and that’s saying something.”

Meanwhile, Logarusic has, of late, come underfire for his record with the Warriors after managing just one win and four draws in fourteen games.

The latest defeat to Ethiopia on Tuesday in World Cup Qualifiers further worsened the situation and reports are suggesting a possible sacking in the coming days.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Senior Army Officer Dies Mysteriously

By A Correspondent- A former top Zimbabwe National Army officer has been found dead at his home.

Retired Colonel Patrick Tawona Maponga was found dead at his home in Magunje on Tuesday morning. He was 60.

Maponga was a veteran of Zimbabwe’s war of independence. He lost his wife early this year.

According to a Hurungwe war veteran member, Don Nxele, the late Maponga was among freedom fighters who took the land reform seriously.

He said Maponga was first allocated a plot at the Nassau Farm near Karoi in 2001, but later moved to Mshowe Pools in Hurungwe East constituency in 2003. Said Nxele:

I remember that he was among the few freedom fighters who took farming as a business.

In 2004, he hosted African senior army officers who wanted to understand how the land reform was benefitting indigenous people at Mshowe Pools Farm.

Some came from Egypt, South Africa, Namibia and other Southern Africa countries. By then, he was into wheat and maize production.
Of late, Maponga had ventured into cattle rearing, horticulture, poultry and crocodile farming.

Maponga joined the liberation struggle at a tender age and was trained in Tanzania. He rose through the ranks to become an instructor in Mozambique before independence.

He was integrated into the Zimbabwe National Army soon after independence. He was among the soldiers deployed in Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of Congo as an instructor.

At one time, he was deployed at Magunje 2.3 Infantry Battalion before he voluntarily retired in 1997.
Burial arrangements are still yet to be announced.
He is survived by eight children

George Charamba Nakedly Shares Video Exposing Mnangagwa Bribing Masses Turning Povo Into Passengers Instead Of Owners (Ian Smith Simple)

George-Charamba

By Farai D Hove | It never rains but pours for the man who betrayed President Robert Mugabe, George Charamba who yesterday publicly shared a video that nakedly displays his new boss, Emmerson Mnangagwa for transforming members of the public into bus passengers, in contrast to the Ian Smith style in which blacks were raised to multi millionaire status so they can own whole bus fleet companies.

Charamba publicly distributed the below video (transcript) in which a man, believed to be his agent, pleads with the masses to join his party ZANU PF on the basis of a few hundred ZUPCO buses.

The unnamed agent is heard even admitting to doubts on ZANU PF’s existence in 2021. The man screams out while trying to convince the public that his party is not dead.

“The party is still there; we are still in need of people,” says the man.

Zim Ambassador To Iran Dies

Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Iran, Christopher Mapanga, has died, several media reports have claimed.

Mapanga reportedly died on Wednesday evening but the cause of death has not been revealed. Reports claim he was suffering from liver disease.

According to MEHR News Agency, the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran issued a statement on Thursday saying that the Ambassador of Zimbabwe to the Islamic Republic of Iran had died.

The statement said that after receiving information about the tragic death of the Ambassador of Zimbabwe in the Islamic Republic of Iran, in coordination with law enforcement and judicial authorities, the necessary measures to identify and carry out legal formalities were quickly taken.

It also said that the necessary arrangements have been made in coordination with the Zimbabwean Embassy in Tehran.

It’s the second death of a foreign diplomat in Tehran in less than six months.

In May, Iranian police started investigating the death of a Swiss diplomat who died after reportedly falling from a high rise in Tehran.

The Swiss woman, in her 50s, fell from the upper floors of a 20-story building in which she lived in northern Tehran, the state-run IRNA news agency reported.

Man Strips Down To Underwear Before Own Mother In Law

A woman rushed to Western Commonage Civil Court to seek an eviction order against her drunkard son-in-law who does not respect her as he moves around her house wearing boxer shorts.

Boxer strip down..man exposes self to mother in law

He also verbally abuses her.

Sithulisiwe Mafu (56) said she regrets letting her son-in-law, Arnold Mpofu (29), move in. She said when she was approached by her daughter, who is married to Arnold, asking to put up at her place, she agreed and allowed them to stay at her cottage.

She said after about a month her son-in-law started doing gardening wearing only a boxer short and that prompted her to engage her daughter to talk to him, but her efforts fell on deaf ears because he did not change.

Mafu was left with no choice but to confront Mpofu, but things got worse as he started coming home drunk and insulting her.

She decided to turn to the courts.

“I’m applying for a protection order against my son-in-law whom I’m staying with because when he is relaxing at home or doing gardening he would be wearing a boxer short. I have told him on countless times that culturally it is taboo to wear a boxer short in the presence of your mother-in-law, but he would go to a booze when he returns in the evening he would shout at me while accusing me of ill- treating him saying he is paying rent he has a right to wear as he pleases,” said Mafu.

Mpofu said: “I wore a boxer short because I took Mafu as my mother and I saw nothing wrong by wearing a boxer short.”

The presiding magistrate Shepherd Mnjanja granted Mafu the eviction order which compels Mpofu to move out of the house after three months. In addition to that he was ordered not to verbally abuse his mother-in-law and to dress decently since he was still staying at her house. -B Metro

Sabbath School Summary
By Dr Elder MASIMBA MAVAZA

Longing for More

Lesson 11.

Memory Text: 1 Corinthians 10:6
“Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did”

INTRODUCTION
The Queens Museum of Art in New York, United States, houses the world’s largest architectural model of a city, depicting all of the buildings of New York. On a scale of 1:1,200 (where 2.5 centimeters or 1 inch corresponds to 33 meters or 100 feet) it covers nearly 870 square meters (9,335 square feet). It was originally completed in 1964 by 100 craftsmen who had worked for more than three years to complete the project. It has been updated to the 1990s and does not reflect the 2021 cityscape. It is an amazingly intricate and detailed copy of the original.

In the end, though, it is still just that: a copy, a model, a representation of something grander, bigger, deeper, and much more intricate than the model itself.

That’s how all models are, actually. They are not the original but function only as symbols of the originals. A model helps us grasp the essence of the original, but it can never replace it. Rather, it is there to help people better understand what the original is all about.

SABBATH: Model designs are still large element of architecture. They are used to mirror what a real city looks like & give a comprehensive depiction of the city. The New York Queens Museum of Art harbors one of the most largest models of a city. Made by 100 craftsmen in 1964, it mirrors the city of New York in the 1990s. Yet, it’s just but a copy. In the Bible, there are mini-models for us to grasp a bigger thing (Heb. 4).

SUNDAY: The Bible is full of “types” & “antitypes”. The word “type” is a Greek noun (“typos”) which means “example”. A type always points to an antitype. Types are models of larger things (1 Cor. 10:1-11 & Heb. 8:5). E.g; the earthly sanctuary (a “type”) & the heavenly sanctuary (an “antitype”); rock, bread of life, living water (types) means Christ (antitype); (Exod. 25:9, 16:31-35, 1 Cor. 10:4, John 6:48 & 4:10).

MONDAY: Not a dot is without value in the Bible. Even a jot/single word convey essential spiritual truths such as the rituals in the OT (Lev. 4:32-35, John 1:29; 1 Pet. 1:18-21). Details were given by God on what to do & which animal to sacrifice. Explanations are not always given. Israel might have understood its meaning (Lev. 17:11). Blood was key for atonement. The blood of Christ was shed for us (Lev. 4:32-35).

TUESDAY: The greatest sin of Israel was their faithlessness & rebellion. They received the gospel but with the spirit of unbelief. Many failed to trust God & disobeyed Him (Heb. 4:1-11 & 3:7-19). As a result, God’s true rest eluded them. Faith & rest in God are inseparable. God made rest; to enter it, you need to trust God. The early church believed the OT, Jesus as the Lamb & had faith in His saving sacrifice (Heb. 4:2, 3).

WEDNESDAY: Those who possess a soft & contrite heart find rest in God. Israel hardened her heart & failed to taste God’s rest. God’s grace took the new generation to the Promised Land, but their lack of faith hindered many from tasting the reality of salvation in Christ (Heb. 4:4-7, Ps. 95:8-11). Canaan was just part of the rest in Christ. God bids us not to harden our hearts. Now is the time (Ps. 95:7).

THURSDAY: Hebrews 4:8-11 points to God’s special end-time rest that has been present since Creation. Anytime we celebrate the Sabbath rest, we have a taste of the world to come (the end-time rest). This rest was & is not only for the Jews, for Joshua did not give Israel rest. It’s for all who accept Christ as their personal Savior (Gal. 3:26-29). The Creation account assures us that we can cease from our own works & trust God’s promise of salvation.

FRIDAY: Humans can cry with us but only God can dry our tears. Humans can offer us sympathy but only God can solve our problems. Oftentimes, we’re inclined to pour our trials & woes to human ears. We are not always willing to come to Jesus for aid. God’s promises are precious & sure. We must study His word, know His will, & confide in Him. Christ is waiting to hear our pleas & never forsakes. Have hope!

Discussion Questions

? What’s so special about the seventh-day Sabbath that it prefigures God’s heavenly rest for His people? That is, how does the Sabbath rest give us a foretaste of eternity?

? Atonement means reconciliation and indicates the way back to God. Think about this important statement found in Romans 5:11: “And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation” (NKJV). If someone were to ask you, “What does it mean to be reconciled to God, and what difference has this reconciliation made in your life,” what would you answer?

? How can we avoid majoring in minors in our Christian life? What keeps us focused on the big picture offered in God’s Word?

? Think again about all the mistakes made and the lack of faith the children of Israel manifested in the wilderness. Though the details of their challenges are different from ours (we’re not wandering through a vast desert), what common principles are there? That is, how in our own Christian walk might we be confronted with the same challenges they were, and how can we learn from their mistakes?

Granpa Violently Struck with Iron Bar For Being Allegedly Stubborn

A 53-year-old man from Makokoba suburb in Bulawayo escaped death by a whisker after he was allegedly struck with an iron bar several times all over body by his 16-year-old grandson who claimed he was disciplining him for being stubborn.

Alexander Maphosa was injured after he was allegedly assaulted by his grandson Tonderai Musavengana at their home in Makokoba suburb.

Circumstances are that on 4 September 2021 and at around 8pm Tonderai went into his grandfather ‘s bedroom making noise.

His grandfather reportedly asked him to lower his voice and at the same time asked him the purpose of his visit to his bedroom.

In response, Tonderai reportedly told him that he had come to discipline him for being stubborn.

It is alleged that he then took an iron bar which he used to strike his grandfather several times all over the body.

The grandfather sustained injuries as a result of the savage attack and was taken to Mpilo Hospital for treatment. The matter was reported to the police leading to Tonderai’s arrest.

For the offence he has since appeared in court charged with physical abuse as defined in Section 3 (1) (a) as read with Section 4 of the Domestic Violence Act Chapter 5:16.

He was not asked to plead and was remanded out of custody to 17 September 2021. – Herald

Zimra Wants To Release 53 Cars To Smugglers

The govt tax authority, the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority, wants to release 53 uncleared cars to smugglers, it has emerged.

Beitbridge -shopping-mall

The High Court has since blocked the release by Zimra of vehicles imported by 53 people as it is suspected they were brought into the country using fake import licences in what is a far-reaching swathe of sneaky dealings in the vehicle import business.

-Herald

Key Facts About Hypertension

Key facts

Hypertension ̶ or elevated blood pressure ̶ is a serious medical condition that significantly increases the risks of heart, brain, kidney and other diseases.

An estimated 1.28 billion adults aged 30-79 years worldwide have hypertension, most (two-thirds) living in low- and middle-income countries
An estimated 46% of adults with hypertension are unaware that they have the condition.
Less than half of adults (42%) with hypertension are diagnosed and treated.
Approximately 1 in 5 adults (21%) with hypertension have it under control.

Hypertension is a major cause of premature death worldwide.
One of the global targets for noncommunicable diseases is to reduce the prevalence of hypertension by 33% between 2010 and 2030.
What is hypertension?
Blood pressure is the force exerted by circulating blood against the walls of the body’s arteries, the major blood vessels in the body. Hypertension is when blood pressure is too high.

Blood pressure is written as two numbers. The first (systolic) number represents the pressure in blood vessels when the heart contracts or beats. The second (diastolic) number represents the pressure in the vessels when the heart rests between beats.

Hypertension is diagnosed if, when it is measured on two different days, the systolic blood pressure readings on both days is ≥140 mmHg and/or the diastolic blood pressure readings on both days is ≥90 mmHg.

What are the risk factors for hypertension?
Modifiable risk factors include unhealthy diets (excessive salt consumption, a diet high in saturated fat and trans fats, low intake of fruits and vegetables), physical inactivity, consumption of tobacco and alcohol, and being overweight or obese.

Non-modifiable risk factors include a family history of hypertension, age over 65 years and co-existing diseases such as diabetes or kidney disease.

What are common symptoms of hypertension?

Hypertension is called a “silent killer”. Most people with hypertension are unaware of the problem because it may have no warning signs or symptoms. For this reason, it is essential that blood pressure is measured regularly.

When symptoms do occur, they can include early morning headaches, nosebleeds, irregular heart rhythms, vision changes, and buzzing in the ears. Severe hypertension can cause fatigue, nausea, vomiting, confusion, anxiety, chest pain, and muscle tremors.

The only way to detect hypertension is to have a health professional measure blood pressure. Having blood pressure measured is quick and painless. Although individuals can measure their own blood pressure using automated devices, an evaluation by a health professional is important for assessment of risk and associated conditions.

What are the complications of uncontrolled hypertension?

Among other complications, hypertension can cause serious damage to the heart. Excessive pressure can harden arteries, decreasing the flow of blood and oxygen to the heart. This elevated pressure and reduced blood flow can cause:
Chest pain, also called angina.
Heart attack, which occurs when the blood supply to the heart is blocked and heart muscle cells die from lack of oxygen. The longer the blood flow is blocked, the greater the damage to the heart.

Heart failure, which occurs when the heart cannot pump enough blood and oxygen to other vital body organs.
Irregular heart beat which can lead to a sudden death.
Hypertension can also burst or block arteries that supply blood and oxygen to the brain, causing a stroke.

In addition, hypertension can cause kidney damage, leading to kidney failure.
Why is hypertension an important issue in low- and middle-income countries?

The prevalence of hypertension varies across regions and country income groups. The WHO African Region has the highest prevalence of hypertension (27%) while the WHO Region of the Americas has the lowest prevalence of hypertension (18%).

The number of adults with hypertension increased from 594 million in 1975 to 1.13 billion in 2015, with the increase seen largely in low- and middle-income countries. This increase is due mainly to a rise in hypertension risk factors in those populations.

How can the burden of hypertension be reduced?
Reducing hypertension prevents heart attack, stroke, and kidney damage, as well as other health problems.

Prevention
Reducing salt intake (to less than 5g daily).
Eating more fruit and vegetables.

Being physically active on a regular basis.
Avoiding use of tobacco.
Reducing alcohol consumption.
Limiting the intake of foods high in saturated fats.
Eliminating/reducing trans fats in diet.
Management

Reducing and managing stress.
Regularly checking blood pressure.
Treating high blood pressure.
Managing other medical conditions.
What is the WHO response?
The World Health Organization (WHO) is supporting countries to reduce hypertension as a public health problem.

In 2021, the WHO released a new guideline for on the pharmacological treatment of hypertension in adults. The publication provides evidence-based recommendations for the initiation of treatment of hypertension, and recommended intervals for follow-up. The document also includes target blood pressure to be achieved for control, and information on who, in the health-care system, can initiate treatment.

To support governments in strengthening the prevention and control of cardiovascular disease, WHO and the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (U.S. CDC) launched the Global Hearts Initiative in September 2016, which includes the HEARTS technical package.

The six modules of the HEARTS technical package (Healthy-lifestyle counselling, Evidence-based treatment protocols, Access to essential medicines and technology, Risk-based management, Team-based care, and Systems for monitoring) provide a strategic approach to improve cardiovascular health in countries across the world.

In September 2017, WHO began a partnership with Resolve to Save Lives, an initiative of Vital Strategies, to support national governments to implement the Global Hearts Initiative.

Other partners contributing to the Global Hearts Initiative are: the CDC Foundation, the Global Health Advocacy Incubator, the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the U.S. CDC. Since implementation of the programme in 2017 in 18 low- and middle-income countries, 3 million people have been put on protocol-based hypertension treatment through person-centred models of care. These programmes demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of standardized hypertension control programmes.

Church’s Answer To Suicide

There is a pandemic that has lasted far longer than COVID. It’s also been more deadly. It’s more difficult to treat, and there’s no vaccine for it. Masks are ineffective in stopping it and may actually make it worse.

America’s pandemic of despair shows up most obviously in the mounting number of suicide and suicide attempts. According to the Centers for Disease Control, suicide rates are higher today than at any other time since the Great Depression. Unless one takes into account just how different our world is today, it’s impossible to grasp what that data point really means. Today, we have emergency rooms, a much better knowledge of poison and poison control, better technologies, and emergency medications like NARCAN. These incredible, life-saving medical interventions mean that a large percentage of patients who attempt suicide survive. But adjusting for these medical advances, we are likely living through the worst suicide crisis in our nation’s history.

This is a crisis that is, at its root, fueled by despair. Hopelessness afflicts individuals and entire communities. Deeper than economic hardship or access to firearms and opioids, we have created, to borrow words from my friend Matthew Sleeth, “an unlivable society.” Loneliness and isolation are the norm, and they pre-existed this Coronavirus.

Matthew’s latest book is the most direct, helpful, and clarifying book for Christians on this topic of suicide. It’s called Hope Always: How to Be a Force for Life in a Culture of Suicide. In it, he combines his first-hand knowledge of America’s suicide crisis as an emergency room doctor with statistical insights, a biblical overview of the topic, and an incredible amount of wisdom. His conclusion is nothing less than a calling. When it comes to addressing this culture-wide pandemic, if not the church stepping up, who will?

Scripture, as Dr. Sleeth points out, says a great deal about suicide, and therefore has a huge role to play in preventing it. From the beginning, Satan tempted Adam and Eve in the Garden to, in effect, kill themselves. Ever since, demons, both literal and figurative, have been whispering lies and words of despair into human ears.

Throughout the book, Sleeth threads an important needle. On the one hand, he argues against a materialistic view of suicide. Humans are, he argues, the only creatures that knowingly take our own lives. Thus, this terrible decision has an irreducible spiritual component. On the other hand, Sleeth warns Christians not to ignore the very real medical and mental health factors that drive people to self-harm.

By holding together the material and moral sides of suicide, Sleeth addresses the issue from the best foundation available: who humans are as image-bearers of God. Thus, Sleeth makes clear why Christianity has proved to be the most powerful and effective response to those whispering demons that call us into the darkness.

Near the beginning of Hope Always, Sleeth tells an especially touching story of two patients from his time as an emergency room physician. The first was an able-bodied young man, full of promise, who chose to shoot himself in the temple. The other was a joyful, wheelchair-bound man, slightly older with a permanent neurological injury, who had come in for a minor infection.

A nurse asked Dr. Sleeth if he recognized the patient. “It’s the man you saw last spring who shot himself.” The two patients, as it turns out, were the same person. As the young man’s parents later told Dr. Sleeth, after surviving his suicide attempt, their son had found a reason to live. In their words, “He got his faith back,” and his faith had given him fresh hope. (This kind of powerful storytelling, born in his wealth of experience, is just one example of Matthew Sleeth’s compelling writing style.)

To be clear, having a Christian faith is no guarantee that, ultimately, the demonic voices will go away, or won’t steal, kill, and destroy a life. Still, especially in this area, only the Church is properly grounded in both Scripture and science. Only the biblical vision of the imago Dei, of our creation and fall, can address the fullness of the human condition. In light of this, I say with Matthew Sleeth, if not the church on this issue, then who?

Come to BreakPoint.org and we’ll tell you how you can get a copy of “Hope Always.” And be sure to check out Matthew Sleeth’s outstanding interview with Shane Morris on our Upstream podcast, and his incredible talk at the 2021 Wilberforce Weekend.- Christian Headlines

Chamisa Confronts Chigumba Over Voter Registration

By A Correspondent- The Nelson Chamisa led MDC Alliance has confronted the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) over voter registration process.

Mwonzora To Lose 2023 Elections Despite Using Tsvangiari’s Name -Ncube

By A Correspondent- MDC Alliance vice president Professor Welshman Ncube, said Douglas Mwonzora will not get votes despite clinching on to MDC-T party name.

The MDC Alliance and MDC-T have been on each other’s throats since a Supreme Court ruling in 2020 nullified Chamisa’s takeover of the MDC-T presidency soon after the death of founding party president Morgan Tsvangirai in 2018.

Mwonzora backed by a Supreme Court ruling, has been on the rampage, recalling legislators and councillors who continue to rally behind Chamisa.

Despite all this commotion, Professor Ncube said there will be no confusion at the polls. Speaking in an interview with CITE on the Breakfast Club Monday, Prof Ncube said:

There would be no confusion mark my words. There will be a lot of hot air, debate, anxiety among a lot of people but the ordinary average voter in Zimbabwe is clear.

Even if we assume we were to go to the election and there’s MDC Alliance led by Douglas Mwonzora and Nelson Chamisa on the ballot box leads MDC Alliance, there still will be no confusion.

If we use our symbol, which is an open palm hand with Chamisa’s face, let Mwonzora dare put his face there as well, there will be no confusion.
Put the face of Chamisa and the face of the state-sponsored opposition, people will vote accordingly. I really don’t see the confusion.

The only risk, Prof Ncube cited were shenanigans the state might employ during the candidate nomination process. He added:
But if the usual practice is followed, mark my words – the people are very clear.
In fact, wherever we go people are anxious, they want this election tomorrow so they can speak and reaffirm who they support in this country and who they want to be leaders.
There can be no doubt from the majority of the people, even small kids.

Magaya In The Middle Of Mugabe Nephew Divorce

By A Correspondent- Controversial preacher Walter Magaya has been implicated in the divorce of president Robert Mugabe’s nephew, Jason Zhuwao.

The married preacher, Magaya, who has several proven cases of sleeping with his church congregants, was exposed once again for his fornication dark arts in which he beds women, including teenagers.

As Zhuwao announced he is divorcing his wife of barely 2 years, Lorraine, Walter Magaya was publicly named as secretly bedding an Instagram socialite, only identified as Stacate (picture).

The woman (age not given) had moved to mock Zhuwao appearing as if she is an interested party in Zhuwao’s private life.

She said Zhuwao was “busy portraying a happy picture on social media deep down uchiziva uri kuzvichengeta. Muchazvirega henyu (you shall certainly stop what you’re doing.)

“ It was at that point that digi-mobs threw bricks at her saying she is dating Walter Magaya. Somewhat responding to this, her profile description was swiftly changed from ‘Mai Mufundisi…Pastor’s Wife,’ to something more generic, “Mother Of 3 Beautiful Girls.”

Magaya has a long history of cheating on his wife and his bodyguard raised a whistleblowing case to his wife detailing several proven cases.

Efforts to get a comment from Stacate hit a brick wall as she did not respond to questions sent her.

Magaya has been contacted on several accounts and on one occasion, attempted to bribe journalists from this news network.

Wiwa: Lies Grounded On Hatred And Persecution Will Always Fail

By Hon Job Wiwa Sikhala | Yesterday I watched from a distance some State apparatchik pontificating and spreading lies targeted at my family through falsely alleging that my son Job Sikhala Jnr was involved in the murder of a person accused of midnight robbery at my neighbor’s house.

Job-Sikhala

Today as my son was appearing in Court I allowed one of the most brilliant young lawyers Zimbabwe has ever produced Fred Michael Masarirevu to handle the case. I went for the trial case of my client at Rotten Row and in the same vein attend Hopewell Chin’ono’s trial resume.

After realizing the futility of the accusations bundled into the Form 242, a document that police use to keep individuals on remand on purported need to investigate, the Court released my son today.

My confidence in the legal ability of Fred Masarirevu proved me right. He handled the matter with his usual meticulous ability.

He has been released on the same conditions Apostle Mupereki and his sister were released on. What the regime doesn’t know is that I don’t get moved by such ludicrous stupidity. Attack on my family is cowardice of the highest degree only practiced in outposts of uncivilized societies and autocrats.

Continue bringing it on and I will fight. Fighting is in my veins. I am not a character easily moved by madness. Only that the regime misunderstands what I am made of. I am difficult and sophisticated.

Tichapedzerana chete.
Kudos Fred.

Magaya Implicated In Mugabe Nephew Divorce Mess

By A Correspondent | The announced divorce of president Robert Mugabe’s nephew, Jason, caused a stir when the controversial preacher Walter Magaya’s name was dropped.

The married preacher, Magaya, who has several proven cases of sleeping with his church congregants, was exposed once again for his fornication dark arts in which he beds women, including teenagers.

Former To Army Official Drops Dead

ZIFA To Fire Logarusic?

The Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA board is set to wield the axe on under-fire Warriors coach Zdravko Logarusic…

Logarusic oversaw yet another lifeless display by the Warriors, who failed to score in the two World Cup qualifiers against South Africa at home and Ethiopia away.

It was the defeat to Ethiopia in particularly, which irked football fans in Zimbabwe, as calls for Logarusic’s dismissal grew louder.

A source at ZIFA revealed to Soccer24 this morning, that a decision to sack the coach has already been made, but it is one just to please the fans, as the Kamambo-led board does not entirely believe the team’s poor performance is down to the coach only.

“Look, it was just a decision made to please the fans and react to the pressure being mounted by football fans and stakeholders. The coach will be relieved of his duties, but we don’t believe only him should be blamed for the team’s poor performance,” the source said.

“We are waiting for the team to arrive, then we read the report by the head of delegation and then announce our decision, that’s all,” he added. – Soccer24 Zimbabwe

How Can The Burden Of Hypertension Be Reduced?

Scottish Govt Raises Concern Over Zimbabwe Deportations

By A Correspondent | The Scottish government has raised concern over deportations to Zimbabwe by the UK administration.

Nicola Sturgeon

In their response to Chris Goshomi, a PhD Candidate for Politics and International Relations at a UK university, who wrote to Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister of Scotland, the govt said, “The Scottish Government believes that the UK Government’s approach to immigration is damaging to Scotland’s demography, economy and society.”

Lucy Alan writing on Sturgeon’s behalf and responding following the departure of two charter flights, continued saying: “a one-size-fits all approach to immigration is no longer appropriate, and the case is overwhelming for the Scottish Government, accountable to the Scottish Parliament, to be able to set the rules for migration in a way that will attract and retain people with the skills we need. We want Scotland to continue to be a diverse country and a confident and responsible global citizen.

“Scottish Government Ministers have repeatedly raised their concerns with the UK Government’s hostile environment approach to migration.

“They will continue to push the UK Government for an immigration system that meets Scotland’s needs, recognises individual circumstances, and provides a welcoming environment for new Scots and their families,” she concluded.

Goshomi who is also the former Chairman of the Zimbabwe Leeds Community (ZLC), is taking the UK govt to task over the issue of Zimbabwe deportations since they were launched 2 months ago. WHAT’S THE FUTURE FOR ZIMBABWEANS WITHOUT PAPERS IN UK & SA? Goshomi will be speaking on ZimEye at 7pm(UK time) during news review.

Mugabe Nephew Divorce Exposes Walter Magaya Fornication Dark Arts

By A Correspondent | The announced divorce of president Robert Mugabe’s nephew, Jason, caused a stir when the controversial preacher Walter Magaya’s name was dropped.

The married preacher, Magaya who has several proven cases of sleeping with his church congregants, was exposed once again for his fornication darkarts in which he beds women and teenagers.

Walter Magaya

As Zhuwao announced he is divorcing his wife of barely 2 years, Lorraine, last night, Walter Magaya was publicly named as secretly bedding an Instagram socialite, only identified as Stacate (picture). The woman (age not given) had moved to mock Zhuwao appearing as if she is an interested party in Zhuwao’s private life.

She lifted the heavy finger against Zhuwao saying he was “busy portraying a happy picture on social media deep down uchiziva uri kuzvichengeta. Muchazvirega henyu (you shall certainly stop what you’re doing.) “

It was at that point that digi-mobs on the social networking website, rose up to throw bricks at her saying she is dating Walter Magaya. Somewhat responding to this, her profile description was swiftly changed from ‘Mai Mufundisi…Pastor’s Wife,’ to something totally different, “Mother Of 3 Beautiful Girls.”

Magaya has a long history of cheating on his wife and his bodyguard raised a whistleblowing case to his (Magaya’s) wife detailing several proven cases (VIDEO).

Efforts to get a comment from Stacate hit a brickwall as she did not respond to questions sent her. Magaya has been contacted on several accounts and on one occasion attempted bribing journalists from this news network.

Don’t Interfere With Electoral Processes- Watchdog Challenges Security Forces

Pressure Group Demands Equal Coverage For All Parties On National Television

Three Bodies Of Minors In Uniforms Found Floating In A River

By A Correspondent- Cops are investigating the deaths of three children who were found floating in a river on Tuesday, 7 September.

The bodies of Nonjabulo (9) and Themba Ngomane (8), and neighbour Katlego Sibande (15), were found in the Mohlaletse River, outside Groblersdal in Limpopo.

The three left their homes in Ga-Phooko Village on the morning of Monday, 30 August to go to school, but never returned. They might have been kidnapped as they were allegedly seen getting into a white Toyota Avanza.

Provincial police spokesman Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said a missing persons case was opened and cops, assisted by villagers, immediately started a search. He said a kidnapping case was opened after reports of the children boarding the Avanza emerged.

“A herdsman walking along the Mohlaletse River found the three bodies floating and called police. The children, still dressed in their school uniforms, were retrieved by search and rescue members.

“The deceased were identified by their families and a post mortem will be conducted to determine how they died,” he said.

Nonjabulo and Themba’s aunt, Staffnurse, (50) said the family had hoped they’d be found alive.

“Everyone is a mess at home and can’t accept they’re gone. We are shattered and I’m speechless.”

Katlego’s father, Michael Rakgwatla (41), said he was heartbroken.

“The family is devastated as we were not expecting this to happen.

“We don’t know how we’ll heal from this tragedy,” he said

Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe ordered a speedy investigation into the circumstances leading to the kids’ deaths.

Councillor Rose Ratau said the community was very angry.

“Villagers tried to block roads in protest, but we’re trying our level best to control the situation.”

Social Development MEC Nkakareng Rakgoale said she was concerned about the increasing number of missing people in the province.

“We’ve sent a team of social workers to start providing psychosocial support to the family.

“August A Politically Charged Month”: ZPP

August 2021 was a politically charged month in Zimbabwe.

The social media buzz over the opposition victory in neighbouring Zambia translated into more campaigns and increased political activity by the ruling Zanu PF and the MDC Alliance parties in Zimbabwe

Despite the COVID -19 lockdown in place, Zanu PF continued with its campaigns and restructuring like it was business as usual.
.

As a result of being politically active, Zanu PF contributed to over 21 percent of erpetrators of human rights violations in August 2021.

This was mostly due to the fact that party officials and activists coerced citizens to be part of the party’s activities, in the process infringing their freedom to associate .

The main opposition party, the MDC Alliance and its breakaway, the MDC -T, both contributed to just under 0. 2 percent of the perpetrators
.

All this happened as Zimbabweans experienced an increase in the cost of living and the worsening of the public transport crisis

The unavailability of safe and reliable public transportation has become a major human rights issue in Zimbabwe as government continues to maintain a ban on public transport operators at a time when the government owned Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) has not managed to build its capacity to cater for the huge demand for its services.

Members of the public therefore end up resorting to using trucks and other vehicles, popularly known as mushikashika as public transport, or spend hours queuing for ZUPCO buses, exposing themselves to COVID -19 and losing productive time
.

We take a look at the issues affecting the public transport system
.
We also delve into the story behind the forcing of young girls into marriage scandal at the Johane Marange apostolic sect and focus on how the sect, which enjoys political protection, uses various means of suppressing the rights of children and women
.
Charged with the responsibility to enforce COVID -19 lockdown measures, the police contributed to just over 50 percent of the human rights violations
.

This is mainly because the officers used brute methods, or simply did not follow arrest procedures while enforcing measures such as the 6 .30 pm curfew
.

In one of the cases, some commercial sex workers who were found loitering after the curfew in Marondera alleged that police officers demanded sexual favours in return for freedom
.

The police were also responsible for the ten cases of unlawful detention.

We also look at the human rights issue around government’s failure to avail national registration documents considering that for one to write public exams, vote in national
elections, or access aid and some financial and government services, they need to either have national identity card or birth certificate

Unions Respond To Gvt Official Statement Telling Broke Teachers To Borrow Money And Travel To Work

Teachers unions have demanded an apology from the government following remarks by Primary and Secondary Education secretary Tumisang Thabela that educators who could not afford to travel back to their workplaces should borrow money.

They said the government was mocking them for being broke when it was failing to pay reasonable salaries which have resulted in some of them failing to travel to their respective workplaces.

At a post-Cabinet media briefing on Tuesday, Thabela admitted that not all teachers have been attending classes since schools reopened for the second term last week.

She said only 70% of teachers had turned up, adding that there were two unnamed provinces where attendance was even lower.

Prior to reopening of schools, the unions urged government to increase their salaries. They are demanding that government reverts to the pre-October 2018 salaries of between US$520 and US$550 or the equivalent in local currency.

But on Tuesday, Thabela asked the broke teachers to borrow money so that they could travel to their workplaces, a statement which sparked wide public criticism yesterday.

“From our daily check of attendance for the previous week, the number of teachers who were coming as compared to the number we are expecting was over 70%. There is one or two (provinces) which are still depressed but generally, we are over 70%. So those who are supposed to not have enough money or whatever (sic), we are hoping that by the end of next week, they would have borrowed enough money to go back to work,” Thabela said before she broke into laughter.

Teachers were outraged by Thabela’s statement, and dismissed her claims that 70% of teachers were attending classes, saying the true figure was under 35%.

“When a whole profession is reduced to this, how do we inspire our kids?” Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe secretary-general Raymond Majongwe retorted in response to Thabela.

“Why reduce us to beggars? We are a joke. The damage is colossal.”

Zimbabwe National Teachers Union chief executive Manuel Nyawo said teachers would not borrow on behalf of the employer, but would continue demanding improved working conditions and higher salaries.

“The unfortunate, damaging, insulting, provocative and misplaced remarks by the Permanent Secretary cannot go unchallenged,” Nyawo said.

“This behaviour smacks of an individual or individuals who have no feelings for the teachers as they care less about us. How can we borrow to be able to go to work? Is it not evidence that confirms our declared position of incapacitation? We are more than seriously incapacitated as confirmed by the Permanent Secretary who turned into a trade unionist before Cabinet.

“The Permanent Secretary must never forget that she is one of us and must always speak for us. Next time she appears before Cabinet, she must tell them that the bulk of the teachers countrywide are not teaching, but seated in disgruntlement. Teachers must be paid what they deserve.”

The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (Artuz) said Thabela’ remarks had exposed the government’s incompetence and lack of willingness to address their concerns.

“Artuz has noted with deep concern and utter shock the lies being peddled by a high ranking government official, the Permanent Secretary of Primary and Secondary Education, Madam Thabela, who blatantly lied through her teeth to the nation and indeed to herself by conjuring up fictitious figures on teacher attendance,” Artuz said in a statement.

The teacher union said Thabela’s 70% figure was utopian, claiming very few teachers were at their work stations.

Thabela refused to comment on the matter when NewsDay contacted her.

“All communications are directed to the ministry spokesperson,” she said.

Gweru Councillors In Soup Over Mwonzora Cabal Meeting

By A Correspondent- At least 11 Gweru urban and four Vungu Rural District MDC Alliance councillors who last week attended a meeting chaired by MDC-T secretary for local government Faith Musarurwa Kamutsungira have expelled themselves from the party, MDC Alliance Midlands spokesperson Takavafira Zhou said yesterday.

Zhou’s sentiments come after some of the councillors reportedly wanted to make a U-turn saying they attended to “just hear what MDC-T wanted to say”.

But fresh details have emerged that the councillors wrote to MDC Alliance secretary for local government, Sesel Zvidzai seeking advice following the MDC-T invitation to the meeting.

The councillors were advised not to attend the gathering.

“Some councillors inquired what they should do when invited to the meeting by the Mwonzora cabal,” Zhou said.

“We advised them that an MDC Alliance councillor who attends another political party meeting would have expelled herself or himself.”

A letter by Zvidzai to one of the defectors, chief whip Gideon Mugariri (ward 7) revealed the directive given to the councillors following the meeting invitation by MDC-T.

“In line with our Constitution MDC Alliance councillors cannot attend meetings of other political parties,” Zvidzai wrote to the councillors before the meeting.

“Accordingly you are advised not to attend the meeting with MDC-T officials.”

The 11 councillors including four from Vungu, however, proceeded to attend the indaba.

Those who left MDC Alliance at Gweru City Council include Notal Dzika (ward 8), Charles Chikozho (ward 10), Trust Chinese (ward 15), Catherine Mhondiwa (ward 13), Tawanda Magidi (ward 16), Doubt Ncube (ward 3), Farai Muza(ward 17), Godfrey Giwa (ward 6), Gideon Mugariri (ward 7), John Manyundwa (ward 18) and Edson Kurebgaseka (ward 9).

The only four opposition councillors in the Vungu RDC, Benjamin Mpala (ward 7), Spiwe Moyo (ward 8), Nyika Parirenyatwa (ward 16) and Rest Muswere (ward 10) also attended the meeting.

Before the meeting, Silas Mangono, MDC-T local government and parliamentary affairs director threatened unspecified action to councillors who fail to attend the meeting.

“I have been asked by the secretary for local government, Mrs Faith Musarurwa Kamutsungira to inform you that she will be coming to Gweru on September 2, 2021 at 9am to meet with all Gweru, Vungu and Shurugwi MDC-T councillors,” Mangono wrote.

“So you are required to attend. Failure to attend will be interpreted to mean that we are not working together and appropriate action will be taken. Please liaise with the Gweru mayor and chief whip for the venue.”

BRING BACK KOMBIS

By Leonard Koni | Banning commuter omnibuses which were serving most routes in Zimbabwe without a viable alternative was an ill timed thought which lacked scientific research.

By Leonard Koni

Current Zimbabwean leadership is gripped with knee jerk policies. The introduction of old, dirty delapitating Smith regime’s locomotives trains for its urban commuters to mitigate transport crisis shows the lack of seriousness of our government in terms of planning.

These locomotives surely are as much as outdated and not compatible with modern facilities. If we managed to phase out Peugeot 404 which was very popular in the early 80s why is the government bringing back such very old trains to operate.

People need comfort and I don’t think such trains have the comfort like the Gautrain in South Africa for example.

We should learn to embrace new technology than celebrating on the trains which were unveiled by Ian Smith in 1965.

The epitome of incompetence within this new dispensation leaves a lot to be desired.

When MDC-Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa talked about bullet trains some Zanu PF apologists laughed at him and surprisingly this week we have witnessed the old trains being unveiled with Zanu PF leaders ululating and cheering on mediocrity. They are allergic to change and enjoy living in the past.

These government ministers must park their state of the art cars and travel in those trains and feel the comfort of them.

I know very much that they don’t have charging ports for passengers to recharge their phones. Surely these ramshackle trains are not fit to ferry passengers but probably stock feeds.

These old trains are a disaster in waiting and cannot be trusted. There is no proof that exceeds this kind of failure.

By resuscitating these century old rail coaches, it has proved that some of these political leaders are still using the rear view mirror, reflecting more on the past than the future. God bless Zimbabwe.

“It Is Illegal To Turn Away Pupils Over Fees”: Gvt Tells Schools

By A Correspondent- It is illegal for schools to turn away pupils due to non-payment of levies and tuition fees, Primary and Secondary Education secretary Tumisang Thabela has said.

Speaking during a tour of Westlea Council Primary School in Harare on Tuesday to assess interventions put in place to curb the spread of COVID-19 following the reopening of schools, Thabela warned schools authorities against turning pupils away for non-payment of fees.

She said learners’ right to education was an inalienable right which could not be compromised.

“I would like to remind parents and our heads that no child will be sent away from school because they have not paid fees. That is what the Education Act says . . . The contract of fees is between the parent and the school. They have to agree on terms of payment, as they have to approach the school and make agreements on terms and not interfere with the child’s education journey.”

Several schools have reportedly been chasing away pupils who have not settled their fees, particularly those in boarding schools. School authorities were said to be demanding cash upfront before children could enter school premises.

Parents have been complaining over the rushed schools reopening, saying they needed to be given time to raise fees after their incomes were severely affected by the COVID-19 lockdowns.

Parents also say the situation has been worsened by the decision by the government to authorise a 33% fee hike after introducing a school term with 80 days.

Thabela urged parents to lodge complaints through the ministry’s toll-free line if they are faced with challenges relating to learners being turned away by school authorities.

“Parents who have queries about schools raising fees without approval from the permanent secretary or sending children away, we now have a toll-free line 317 where you can tell us your problem and will try to the best of our ability to assist.”

Thabela challenged schools to lead and initiate viable income-generating projects to supplement finances.

“We cannot continue to deal with schools as if they are at a position where we just have to be drawing money from parents for survival. COVID-19 showed us that fees are not there all the time, but schools need to survive to pay its employees. Through our ministry, we came up with a commercial projects policy where every school should be run as a commercial entity and be able to survive from other disruptions,” she added.

Security Sector Raises Red Flag Over Police Amendment Bill

By A Correspondent- Stakeholders from the security sector have misgivings over provisions of the Police Amendment Bill which seeks to reform the force, according to findings of the joint parliamentary committee on Peace and Security and Defence, Home Affairs and Security.

The Police Amendment Bill seeks to align the Police Act with the Constitution, particularly section 219 which sets out the establishment and functions of the country’s police service and the Police Service Commission in line with regional practices such as in South Africa.

The commission is supposed to play an oversight role of the police service.

However, there is resistance to the Bill from sections of the security sector, according to findings from virtual public hearings on the Bill held on August 4 and attended by various stakeholders, including members of the public.

“While it is necessary to align the Police Act to the Constitution, there were mixed views on interpretation of some provisions of the proposed piece of legislation,” legislator Levi Mayihlome said at the Second Reading of the Bill on Tuesday in Parliament.

“Though acknowledging that this was a progressive and crucial stride, some stakeholders, particularly from the security sector, were of the view that certain provisions, if enacted had detrimental effects on effective policing and ultimately on national security.”

“Others, especially individual members of the public and civic society organisations, applauded the Bill for further responding to the call for the police service to uphold and respect human rights through working together effectively with constitutionally established commissions such as the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission and Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission, among others.”

The joint committee received written submissions from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and civic society organisations such as legislative watchdog Veritas.

“On the contrary, stakeholders in the security sector, were of the view that the Bill assigned the making of Standing Orders to the PSC when in fact, it was supposed to be the prerogative of the Commissioner-General of Police,” Mayihlome said on submissions to the formulation of Standing Orders.

“They contended that the head of the police service, who is well versed with the day-to-day operations and administration of the organisation, was better placed to deal with issues relating to discipline and orderly conduct of members of the organisation. It was, therefore, proposed that the Commissioner-General of Police be reposed with the power to formulate Standing Orders.”

According to Mayihlome, the committee was in support of the Bill.

“The establishment of the Police Service Commission is in itself a great move in the right direction as it will go a long way in improving service delivery in the sector through its oversight role as well as collaborating and complementing the efforts of other constitutionally established commissions,” Mayihlome said.

Launch Of Book On Former President Robert Mugabe On The Cards

By A Correspondent- Leaders for Africa Network (LAN) in partnership with renowned academic Ibbo Mandaza’s regional think-tank, the Southern African Political-Economy Series (Sapes) Trust, will today launch a book tracing the philosophical footpath and political grounding of the late former President Robert Gabriel Mugabe in Harare.

The book, Re/Membering Robert Gabriel Mugabe: Politics, Legacy, Philosophy, Life and Death by Leaders for Africa Network’s Research Unit, LAN Readers, will be launched at an extraordinary session of the Sapes policy dialogue.

Monday marked two years after the death of Mugabe, who died at a hospital in Singapore.

The former strongman died a bitter man after he was pushed out of power by his military chiefs in November2017.

LAN research and publication co-ordinator Pofela Ndzozi in a statement said the book highlights Mugabe’s statecraft milestones and pitfalls before and after independence in April 1980.

“The launch of the book, Re/Membering Robert Gabriel Mugabe: Politics, Legacy, Philosophy, Life and Death, is a befitting homage to (the late former) African leader.

“Through this book launch, LAN and Sapes Trust join Zimbabwe and the rest of the world in commemorating the second-anniversary of the passing on of Mugabe’s on September 6, 2019,”he said.

“The essays in the book also interrogate Mugabe’s statesmanship within the broad-based ideological benchmarks of African nationalism and pan-Africanism.”

The 14-chapter volume draws its contributions from a cohort of reputable and upcoming academics and practising politicians such as Zanu-PF’s secretary for administration and a long-serving cabinet minister in Mugabe’s government, Obert Mpofu.

Other notable figures, who contributed to the book include Professor Jairos Kangura, Enerst Jakaza, Isaac Mhute, Nelson Mlambo, Richard Muranda, Lenin Chisaira, and Avoid Masiraha, among others.

The book was edited by Namibian-based Zimbabwean scholar Collen Sabao, Richard Runyararo Mahomva, the executive co-ordinator of LAN, and Lawrence Mhandara, a senior lecturer with the University of Zimbabwe’s Department of Governance and Public Management.

Murder Suspect Runs Amock, Attack Police Officers During Arrest

By A Correspondent- Two police officers were seriously injured after they were attacked by a murder suspect whom they were attempting to arrest in Mudzi, Mashonaland East province.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the suspect, Steven Nyakarenda (37) of Mafuta village, went on the run after he had allegedly killed his two-year-old son, before striking and injuring two officers.

Nyathi said police received information that Nyakarenda had killed his son and a team attended the scene.

The police then ordered him to accompany them to Nyamapanda Police Station. But Nyakarenda struck one police officer, a Constable Shiri on the head with a stone and struck the other, an Assistant Inspector Kugotsi on the head with an axe.

“The ZRP is concerned with the conduct of some criminals who are resorting to attacking police officers while in the process of effecting arrests” Nyathi said. “In this regard, the police will brook no nonsense in dealing with such criminals.”

Police are appealing to the members of the public for information about Nyakarenda’s whereabouts.

Former Army Chef Found Dead

By A Correspondent- Retired Colonel Patrick Tawona Maponga was found dead at his home in Magunje on Tuesday morning.

He was 60. The late Maponga lost his wife early this year.

A former freedom fighter, joined the liberation struggle at a tender age and was trained in Tanzania. He rose through the ranks to become an instructor in Mozambique before independence.

Maponga was integrated into the Zimbabwe National Army soon after independence.  He was among the soldiers deployed in Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of Congo as an instructor. At one time, he was deployed at Magunje 2.3 Infantry Battalion before he voluntarily retired in 1997.

He was a farmer who was first allocated a plot at the Nassau Farm near Karoi in 2001, but later moved to Mshowe Pools in Hurungwe East constituency in 2003. A Hurungwe war veteran member, Don Nxele said the late Maponga was among freedom fighters who took the land reform seriously.

‘I remember that he was among few freedom fighters who took farming as business. In 2004, he hosted African senior army officers who wanted to understand how the land reform was benefitting indigenous people at Mshowe Pools Farm. Some came from Egypt, South Africa, Namibia and other Southern Africa countries. By then, he was into wheat and maize production,” Nxele said.

‘‘Of late, Maponga had ventured into cattle rearing, horticulture, poultry and crocodile farming,” he said.

In a statement, the liberation war veterans said: “Cde Maponga, whose pseudonym was Cde Mazuva, lost his wife a few months ago and was still grieving, but death took him as well.”

Chido Sanyatwe

By A Correspondent- Chido Sanyatwe, the wife to Zimbabwe ambassador to Tanzania and former Presidential Guard commander, Anselem Sanyatwe, is reportedly leading the race to take over as the Manicaland ZANU PF provincial women’s league chairperson.

Sanyatwe, who is Nyanga North MP, is said to have the backing of several districts ahead of the elections expected to be held next month.

She is facing competition from the incumbent, Happiness Nyakuedzwa, who is determined to return her seat despite being dumped by her district, Makoni, last month.

A women’s league provincial member who spoke to NewsDay on condition of anonymity for fear of victimisation said:

Cde Sanyatwe has done a lot for her constituency, she has been helping women with poultry projects, sewing machines among other projects, so people are appreciating what she has been doing and she is being supported by many districts in upcoming provincial elections.

What is interesting in the women’s league elections Cde Nyakuedzwa is not wanted in her own Makoni district; this is an advantage for Sanyatwe. Mutasa district is supporting Sanyatwe.

Sanyatwe was elected into the leadership of Manicaland province and was promoted to the secretary for administration in the women’s league in 2013.

After being elected into Parliament in 2018, Sanyatwe is a member of the portfolio committee on Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs and the Portfolio Committee on Public Accounts.

Meanwhile, ZANU PF acting political commissar Patrick Chinamasa recently warned party members to desist from campaigning as this was disturbing the party’s restructuring process.

However, aspiring candidates who are eyeing provincial positions are allegedly holding secret campaigns.

Chinhoyi Man In Soup Over S_exual Relationship With 14yr Old Minor

By A Correspondent- A 25 year old Chinhoyi man will forever rue the day he proposed love to an underage girl from his neighbourhood, which led to a se_xual relationship.

Masimba Alfred Tachiona of Rusununguko suburb in Chinhoyi appeared for initial remand Wednesday before magistrate Melody Rwizi facing charges under Section 70 (i) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23, which pertain to “having se_xual intercourse with a young person.”

He was granted bail while a trial date is yet to be set.

The state case led by Odrah Chitoro is that sometime in July this year, Tachiona visited the 14-year-old complainant’s residence, which is a few houses away.

He found her alone as her mother had left for Mhangura and proposed love to the minor.

The court heard the girl accepted the proposal, a development which saw the accused person visiting the girl on numerous occasions as the two were now lovers.

On the day in question in the evening, Tachiona visited as usual and led the girl into an unfinished room at the property where he started f0ndling her breasts.

The accused person then had se_x with the girl.

Upon the girl’s mother return from Mhangura, she got suspicious and quizzed her daughter who confessed to bedding the dread-locked neighbour.

The matter was reported to the police before the complainant was taken to the hospital for medical examination.

Accused was later arrested for ‘statutory rap_e.’

Gvt Tells Schools To Stop Turning Away Pupils Over Fees

Unvaccinated Legislators Barred From Parly

Parliament has issued a ban on unvaccinated legislators with security personnel at the entrance instructed to block any MP who shows up without proof they have been inoculated against Covid-19.

Deputy Speaker Tsitsi Gezi announced Wednesday that MPs who have not yet been vaccinated can be allowed access to the building upon production of negative Covid-19 tests results.

“Bring Back Kombis”

Banning commuter omnibuses which were serving most routes in Zimbabwe without a viable alternative was an ill timed thought which lacked scientific research.

By Leonard Koni- Current Zimbabwean leadership is gripped with knee jerk policies.

Nelson Chamisa Will Ride ZUPCO Bus, Charamba Shared Video Says

https://twitter.com/ZimEye/status/1435863377969098752?s=19

By Farai D Hove | MDC President Nelson Chamisa was mocked as Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesperson, George Charamba shared a video that nakedly displays his boss, Mnangagwa for transforming members of the public into bus passengers.

This is in contrast to the Ian Smith style in which blacks were raised to multi millionaire status so they can own whole bus fleet companies.

He says in full:

My guys, my guys, Cde ED is a Chibaba. These ZUPCO buses which are entering the Beitbridge Border Post, live and direct not this thing of hearing from Harare on Facebook and WhatsApp, lying to each other with the boys from Chinja.

Come to the real party with action that has got power and people, the one that fulfills the desires of the people, the one that belongs to Cde Mnangagwa who fulfills all the needs of the people. Look at these buses that are being fuelled right now, Bvupfuwo Checheche, there are so many of them entering the border. They are coming, all these are now receiving diesel on their way to Harare.

You will be boarding these buses tomorrow you Chamisa, courtesy of Cde ED Mnangagwa. Isn’t this sweet, what do you call this great accomplishment? Look at this; what else would do you want? Even you yourself when you are being deceived by these boys who are worthless, these are the buses that are getting diesel. This is Bvupfuwe, they are so countless these buses, this is ZUPCO-transport for the people that is cheap. They are so countless and this is the first batch that is coming in, there are more than 30 buses that I hear but more than 200 others, in the border, right now.

Up with ED Mnangagwa. This thing of your madness, lying to each other. The party is still there; we are still in need of people, the pockets of Zanu-PF will never be full, all the people come and support the party, look at these buses. Checheche Zupcos that are coming in here, you’ll be boarding them all the way to Harare for free. The country being fixed, the border is being fixed, the country becoming so sweet to the tap tap sound; while Hwange Power station the electricity is being fixed, so that they are sweet; Not this thing that you spend time lying to each other, with Chamisa, these boys who travelled to America to beg for sanctions on their own; to board a plane to go to America to beg for sanctions, so that people can suffer. Look at these are the buses here, they are waiting for each other so that they become a convoy so that they can travel in batches, look at these buses, so that they can travel in batches; so that they can travel to Harare-free public transport, courtesy of His Excellency Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa.

FULL TEXT: MISA Writes To SADC Over Freedom Of Expression And The Media In The Region

7 September 2021

His Excellency Elias Mpedi Magosi
SADC Executive Secretary
SADC House
Plot No. 54385, Central Business District
Gaborone
BOTSWANA

RE: FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION AND OF THE MEDIA IN SOUTHERN AFRICA

The above matter refers.

The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA), by virtue of this letter, proffers its sincere greetings and compliments to you on your elevation to the post of SADC Executive Secretary.

Your elevation to the position comes at a critical time for both the Southern African region and the African continent as a whole, particularly in terms of the media freedom environment and the safety and security of journalists.

SADC’s Vision for 2050 is for the region to remain peaceful and stable, thus enabling the further prioritisation, pursuit and achievement of its objectives of socio-economic development, poverty eradication and regional integration.

Your Excellency, we wish to reiterate that a free and secure media is needed to support SADC’s Vision for 2050.

However, the past 18 months have shown how the media in Southern Africa continues to be vulnerable to attacks through arbitrary arrests and detention, physical assaults, crippling fines, closure of media houses, enforced disappearances, use of, or introduction of laws that are inimical to freedom of expression.

Your Excellency, let me also take this opportunity to bring to your attention, key issues that we are grappling with as a region as far as freedom of expression, access to information and media freedom are concerned.

These issues, which are of great concern to us, pertaining to the disappearance of Azory Gwanda of Tanzania, and Ibraimo Mbaruco of Mozambique; the continued persecution of Hopewell Chin’ono in Zimbabwe, and persecution of Eswatini journalists Eugene Dube and Zweli Dlamini, and the general targeting of journalists in that country, and the state of insecurity in northern Mozambique.

Furthermore, we are worried by the propensity of Southern African countries to introduce purported cyber security laws that have a chilling effect on media freedom and freedom of expression. Lesotho, Tanzania and Zambia, have introduced such cyber security laws.

These laws fall far short of regional and international standards and instruments on human rights such as the African Union Convention on Cyber Security and Personal Data Protection (Malabo Convention), which sets the standards for cyber security and personal data protection laws as well as capacity building, knowledge exchanges and experience sharing, among signatories.

In addition, Zimbabwe is in the process of enacting such a law, which will have a grave impact on freedom of expression and of the media.

In February this year, Citizen Lab, a Toronto-based research organisation, conducted research on the use of spyware. It detected that there were seven African countries using the Circles spyware to snoop on citizens’ communications.

Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana, are among the seven African countries from SADC that were identified as using the Cycles spyware. This is in violation of both domestic laws and the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) frameworks that protect the right to privacy.

Your Excellency, another cause for great concern is the propensity of Southern African governments to resort to fake news laws.

MISA is concerned with the seeming regional consensus on the need to snoop on the Internet without much attention and due regard to the enjoyment of fundamental human rights, particularly the protection of citizens’ right to privacy.

Your Excellency, equally worrying is the reflex by Southern African member states to internet shutdowns, disruption, and throttling, especially when citizens petition through demonstrations and during elections. This was the case in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Eswatini, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Further,  the fake news regulations which started with South Africa, triggered similar laws in Botswana, Zambia, Eswatini and Namibia, among others.

With this in mind, and through your able leadership, MISA calls on regional governments to take all necessary measures to guarantee the safety and security of journalists. The media can only play its role in promoting sustainable development and regional integration if it is allowed to operate freely.

In addition, MISA urges SADC governments to ensure that the region’s cyber security regulations are informed and guided by the revised principles of the ACHPR Declaration of Principles on  Freedom of Expression and Access to Information which recognises the Internet as a fundamental right.

In cases where countries have developed repressive legislation and regulations against fake news following the COVID-19 outbreak, MISA requests for a roadmap on when these laws will be repealed.

SADC member states could emulate and take a cue from Namibia and Ghana, notwithstanding other challenges, which are ranked at number one and two on the continent;   and 24 and 30 respectively, on the global scale by the Reporters without Borders (RSF) 2021 World Press Freedom Index.

Your Excellency, MISA remains open to constructive engagement with the Governments of Southern Africa, through the SADC Secretariat, and is more than willing to share and offer its expertise on these issues that require immediate attention.

We look forward to hearing from you and engaging with you more on the work we are doing to promote media freedom,  freedom of expression and access to information in Southern Africa.

Yours Sincerely,

Golden Maunganidze

“I Did Not Call First Lady A Pr_ostitute”: Zanu Pf MP For Headlands

Christopher Chingosho

By A Correspondent- The MP for Headlands, Christopher Chingosho has vehemently refuted allegations that he called First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa a pr0stitute adding that this was a ploy by his enemies to get him fired from the party.

Chingosho also dismissed allegations that he pointed a gun at Chief Makoni’s wife Gwasira. He said these were stories cooked up by those who are eyeing his seat.

“Politics is repeating itself, they want me out the G40 way. It is a political game that is loading to eliminate some vocal politicians from the party especially as we move towards the 2023 election,” said Chingosho in an interview with Chipinge Times.

Chingosho was arrested on Saturday when he allegedly called the First lady a pr0stitute. He allegedly resorted to name calling after being snubbed at a function where the President’s wife was the guest of honour.

The function was held at the Chief Makoni’s homestead in Rusape.

He was released on Sunday.

Chief Makoni’s wife Gwasira is the complainant in the case which is yet to be placed before the courts.

Chingosho’s political life is certainly on the line after ZANU PF Secretary for Finance and Acting National Political Commissar Patrick Chinamasa wrote on his twitter handle that all those who undermine the First lady and traditional leaders must be condemned.

“If what we are picking from social media involving our ZANU PF Honourable Chingosho is what transpired, all ZANU PF members and supporters nationwide must rest assured the party will leave no stone unturned in getting to the root of the matter and taking action against such indiscipline” he further wrote.

Political analyst Ruvarashe Muyambo said the brave politician is being victimised because he has strong links with the G40, a ZANU PF faction that was booted from the party following the November 2017 military coup that disposed strongman Robert Mugabe from power.

Gvt Imports More ZUPCO Buses: Report

By A Correspondent- Public transport continues to grow with the latest batch of 50 new Golden Dragon buses from China passing through Beitbridge at the weekend to join the Zupco fleet and the new train service linking central Harare with Mufakose and Budiriro at peak hours getting into its stride with a growing number of regular passengers.

Over the last 12 months, Government has imported more than 400 buses from China, not only boosting the Zupco fleet, but starting the process of standardising models easing maintenance and allowing good stocks of spares.

The new buses are shipped like the previous batches to Durban. They crossed the Limpopo on Sunday and Monday morning and were cleared through customs in batches of 10 to avoid congesting the border post.

The actual cost of each bus could not be readily verified, but Golden Dragons sell for just over the equivalent of US$50 000 each in China. The commercial deal for the buses was set up by President Mnangagwa on visits to China.

Zupco acting chief executive officer Mr Everisto Madangwa said he will give more details regarding the import later when the buses arrive in Harare.

It is understood that more than 1 000 buses have been acquired from China and Belarus and they are being delivered to the country in batches of between 50 and 100 buses.

The Government has since reaffirmed its commitment to ease transport challenges by availing reliable and affordable transport to the people in line with Vision 2030.

A few days ago Zupco entered into a deal with the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) to ease transport problems in major urban areas starting with Bulawayo and Harare.

The first service, that between the city centre and the main heavy industrial area and the huge suburbs of Mufakose and Budiriro, started on Tuesday afternoon as an integrated train and bus service. Using a single $60 ticket commuters use buses to get to the railway line then take the train to town and on the return trip use the train and the feeder buses, again on a single ticket.

It is expected that the integration of bus and train services on single tickets will avoid the many problems that earlier commuter trains saw.

The City-Ruwa and City-Tynwald services in Harare start soon and the scheme is being rolled out to Bulawayo.

The three Harare services will add the equivalent in passenger capacity of more than 50 long buses, helping to boost the public transport system as well as given commuters from the served suburbs a faster and more comfortable ride.

Yesterday afternoon the new service worked well with more passengers and more now knowing exactly how it operated. It took exactly 45 minutes for passengers to arrive in Mufakose from the city centre.

Most of the passengers aboard the train described it as affordable and reliable.

Among the passengers was Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Mr Nick Mangwana and other Government officials who also talked to the passengers.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Mr Nick Mangwana (right) was among the passengers on a ZUPCO/ National Railways of Zimbabwe train bound for Mufakose in Harare yesterday. — Picture: Kudakwashe Hunda.

The train left Harare station at 5.30pm, convenient for many now that business hours have been restored to normal, before arriving in Mufakose around 6.15pm, although some passengers were dropped off along the way.

The train stopped at Lever Brothers, Lonchivar and Kambuzuma dropping off passengers at the stations where Zupco buses were waiting to take them to their final destinations.

Before boarding the train the passengers had their hands sanitised with security staff making sure that they were wearing their masks in line with the Covid-19 regulations.

Each passenger was then made to pay $40 for the trip by Zupco conductors who were manning the platform access gates or on the door to gain access to the train. This is lower than the advertised $60 fare.

NRZ security staff then moved around the train urging people not to disembark while it was in motion as it was dangerous and could cost one’s life.

One of the passengers, Mrs Zvikomborero Nyanzira of Budiriro 5B said it was her first time to board the train and applauded Government for bringing back the commuter trains.

“This is a good move by the Government because these trains save time and they are cheap and reliable at the same time. During the journey you don’t experience any traffic congestion and harassment from the touts who have now resurfaced and are playing hide and seek with the police,” she said.

Another passenger, Mr Simbarashe Semba of Mufakose said Government had done so well as this would get rid of mushikashika.

“With these trains, all you need to do is just buy your ticket and then get a seat. You can sit anyway you want without any hustles. They are also no long winding queues that most people experience at some of the bus terminuses in the city waiting for transport,” he said.

Passengers are already suggesting improvements. One who identified herself as Mai Gamu from Budiriro urged the relevant authorities to ensure that they put adequate lighting inside

She said Government should avail more trains and reliable transport to other areas to cater for the people.

In an interview, Mr Mangwana said Government is concerned about the lives of the urban dwellers and it had done a lot to improve their lives besides alleviating transport problems, including improving lighting systems, traffic system, the water system and the rehabilitation of the road network, among others.

He said the new commuter trains would alleviate transport problems being faced by the people.

“I have used a number of metropolitan railway lines and trains in my very short life and this matches any that we have used in terms of comfort, keeping to the timetable and the lack of rowdiness on the train.

“Actually in some metropolitan cities you feel unsafe because there will be drunk people who will be very rowdy to make you feel uncomfortable but in this one we were seated decently with people having conversations. Women felt settled and nobody was being molested and even when it got a bit darker, it was still ok,” he said.

He added: “Yes the carriages are a bit older. There are some touch ups that are needed and there is no question about that. We will need lighting in there and as you can see it’s a little bit darker and people will be safer if there is lighting but it’s the safest mode of travel.

“We also got here on time. We didn’t run into traffic. We were not gridlocked somewhere, which you will get when you are driving. Yes Government has taken this country in the right direction on this one.”

He assured the public that the whole system was going to be modernised but at the same time urged people to help stop vandalism and help look after the assets so more money was spent on improvements and expansion and less on replacing damaged equipment and avoidable repairs.

The new Harare commuter train services started on Tuesday afternoon on the Mufakose route with those trying it out given a free test ride.

The Ruwa route is expected to start today and the third service, the Tynwald route, is expected to start Monday next week.

The trains have 10 coaches each and a carrying capacity of 100 passengers per coach. So each train can carry more than 15 bus loads of passengers.

Brothels Rile Mabvuku Residents

By A Correspondent-Residents of Tafara, Mabvuku and Caledonia in Harare have expressed concern over an influx of sex workers whom they are accusing of contributing to moral decay and fuelling criminal activities.

The prostitutes have allegedly turned these high-density suburbs into an extensive red-light district.

Women in Action (WA), a women’s group whose major task is to fight prostitution in Caledonia, says most of the sex workers come from as far as Goromonzi and Ruwa in Mashonaland East. Cecilia Mutenga, chairlady of WA said:

In our case, we have sex workers that are coming from such far-away places as Goromonzi and Ruwa, among others.

By dusk, these scantly dressed ladies will be lining our streets, making suggestive gestures to whoever passes by.

These ladies must be driven away since they are bringing with them vices and moral decadence.

Mutenga said her group, which falls under the Caledonia Residents Association Trust (CRAT), wants the buildings in which the sex workers use as their love nests to be destroyed.

Bush S_x Lands Couple In Trouble

By A Correspondent- A decision to play ‘hide the sausage game’ in the car in a bushy area ended in tears for man after two armed robbers, stabbed and robbed him of a car and cash.

The incident happened on Wednesday night, in a bushy area, near United College of Education in Bulawayo.

Two unknown men, armed with an axe, stick and knife pounced on the man, while he was having sex in a car with his lover.

The tried to fight the robbers and got stabbed in the thigh.
They also took turns to assault him with fists and a stick all over the body.
After beating him to submission they searched him and took US$455 and R4000.

The two robbers then turned their attention to the woman and she gave them US$400 and her cellphone at knifepoint.

They then took off in car.

Efforts to get a comment from the couple were fruitless as they were not reachable.

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.

“We urge people to use lodges and hotels when they want to have leisure. They can also use a house than to go to the bush because it is very risky. These people could have used US$20 at a lodge than to lose a car, US$855 and R4000 to robbers,” said Inspector Ncube.

Zanu PF MP Refutes Calling Auxilia Mnangagwa A Prostitute

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF member of parliament for Headlands, Christopher Chingosho, has refuted allegations that he called First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa a prostitute.

In an interview with Chipinge Times, Chingosho also dismissed allegations that he pointed a gun at Chief Makoni’s wife, Gwasira. He said:

Politics is repeating itself; they want me out the G40 way. It is a political game that is loading to eliminate some vocal politicians from the party, especially as we move towards the 2023 election.

Chingosho was arrested last week when he allegedly called the First lady a prostitute after being snubbed at a function where the President’s wife was an honour guest.

The function was held at the Chief Makoni’s homestead in Rusape, Manicaland Province.

Chief Makoni’s wife, Gwasira, is the complainant in the case, which is yet to be placed before the courts.

Political commentator Ruvarashe Muyambo said the brave politician is being victimised because he has strong links with the G40.

Generation 40 (G40) was a ZANU PF faction that was booted from the party following the November 2017 military coup that disposed the late former President Robert Mugabe from power.

Mnangagwa Top Allies In Coup Plot

By Kelvin Kasiwulaya- State Security Minister Owen Mudha Ncube and Local Government Minister July Moyo have been implicated in the Zanu PF Midlands Provincial coup.

Sources within the Zanu PF Midlands provincial structures said Ncube and Moyo had formed a cabal to illegitimately remove the Incumbent Provincial Chairman Mackenzie Ncube and his deputy Ronald Robson Nyathi.

The Moyo – Mudha cabal is said to have recruited footsoldiers in Shurugwi, Gweru and Kwekwe to destabilize the province and cause a commotion.

Sources withn Zanu PF’s Midlands provincila leadership said Shurugwi South member of parliament Edmund Mukarakigwa, party’s Shurugwi District Coordinating Committee Chairman Shepherd Mudhara, Shurugwi Assistant District Administrator Tavonga Mufarachisi, and secretary for information and publicity in the Midlands Province Cornelius Mupereri had been recruited by Mudha and Moyo to execute the coup.

The sources further said Ncube and Moyo were masquerading as the custodians of the second republic; they claim that if it was not for them and their strategies, President Emmerson Mnangagwa would have never tested power.

” The Two are fueling factionalism and confusion in the party hence derailing the 2023 5million Votes mantra.

” Party members here in the Midlands Province have sworn to stand with Cde McKenzie Ncube and Cde Ronald Robson Nyathi, and we have ignored what Mudha and July Moyo are telling people,” said one senior Zanu PF official who refused to be named for fear of victimisation by Mudha.

Mudha and Moyo are also bribing state media journalists to tarnish Cde Mackenzie and label him a G40 member.

” Zanu -PF is a democratic party which respects the will of it’s members , so Mudha and Moyo should not come and lie to us telling us that they have been sent by the President, we know our President when it comes to party issues he speaks through the Politi-buro,” said another Zanu PF member.

Chiefs Exchange Blows Over Funeral Speech

By A Correspondent- The long-standing feud between Chiefs Council president Chief Fortune Charumbira and newly installed Chief Nemamwa recently escalated at a funeral when representatives from the two chieftaincies nearly exchanged blows over legitimacy issues.

According to TellZim News, the near fist-fight incident occurred during Serina Mangoma’s funeral in Nyoka Village near Chief Charumbira’s homestead last weekend.

The Charumbira clansmen disrupted the funeral programme and threatened to bash the Nemamwa chieftaincy representative Munyaradzi Mureyi who had been asked to give a speech.

The director of ceremonies called Mureyi to give a speech on behalf of Chief Nemamwa since the deceased was from the Nemamwa clan, but this irked the Charumbira clansmen who insisted they did not recognize the Nemamwa chieftainship.

Speaking to TellZim News after the incident, Mureyi said the program had been progressing smoothly until Mureyi was called him to speak on behalf of Chief Nemamwa.

He said that was when Cephas Marashanye who is originally from Nemamwa but is a Charumbira sympathiser threatened to bash him if he spoke. Said Mureyi:

Marashanye stood up and told me not to speak, at first I thought he wanted to speak himself since he is originally from Nemamwa but is a Charumbira sympathiser. I told him to speak instead but he said there was no Chief Nemamwa.

He then came and pushed me around and other people from Chief Charumbira’s side rose and threatened to join in shouting that there was no Nemamwa. I was pushed from around and I think it was a pre planned thing.

I, later on, managed to escape and the Director of ceremonies had to skip the chief’s part. I have since reported the matter to the police.

Chief Charumbira confirmed the incident and said he was not there but saw videos of the clash and said the incident was not a new thing.

He rubbished the resuscitation of Nemamwa chieftainship saying it was a fraud which has no legal basis to support it.

Meanwhile, Masvingo Provincial Development Coordinator (PDC), Jefta Sakupwanya said he was not aware of the incident but said incidents of that nature are common between rival chiefs and revealed that the installation of Chief Nemamwa was imminent.

He said the installation of Nemamwa was stalled by the COVID-19 induced lockdown saying if the situation improves they will sit with the chief’s council and deliberate on the way forward.

ZRP Statement On Level 2 Lockdown Restrictions

The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges the public to take note of the COVID-19 national level two safety measures announced by His Excellency, President ED Mnangagwa on the 7th September 2021.

The Police will ensure compliance by the public through roadblocks, checkpoints, surveillance and general patrols in Central Business Centres (CBDs), residential and industrial areas.

Business operators are therefore implored to co-operate with police officers by strictly observing the operational hours of 0800 hours to 1900 hours.

The public is urged to observe COVID-19 protocols which include, wearing face masks, practising social distancing and sanitization while accessing various services in banks, supermarkets, health facilities and restaurants.

Beer hall operators and nightclubs who defy the Government’s order to remain closed will be arrested.

This includes those who are operating shebeens in various cities and towns in the country.

Zimbabweans are reminded that Police will ensure that public gatherings are limited to not more than 100 people.

Gatherings should be held within the stipulated period and not cross over into curfew hours.

In this regard, the Zimbabwe Republic Police warns the public against unnecessary movements during the curfew period which now runs from 2200 hours till 0530 hours the next morning.

Anyone found to be hosting parties or any other gathering during the curfew period will be arrested.

Transporters who have been allowed to engage in intercity movements should lead by example and observe all the stipulated COVID-19 protocols.

Above all, they should co-operate with law enforcement agencies to promote and ensure road safety to the travelling public.

We also urge bottle stores, restaurants, hotels and lodge operators to observe the stipulated COVID-19 safety measures set by the Government.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner-General of Police has directed police commanders at Provincial, District and Station Level to ensure that police officers on the ground minimize unnecessary delays to the public at roadblocks and checkpoints.

As most sectors of the economy open, motorists should avoid causing traffic congestion, driving against the flow of traffic, proceeding against red robots and exhibiting reckless driving conduct. The police will ensure that the law takes its course on such drivers.

Let us be responsible citizens and collectively assist in the maintenance of the law and order as the country fights the COVID-19 pandemic.

Harare Magistrate Spares Mamombe From Going Back To Chikurubi

By A Correspondent- A Harare magistrate Stanford Mambanje has dismissed an application by the National Prosecuting Authority for the revocation of Harare West MP Joana Mamombe’s bail.

The NPA wanted Mamombe jailed for reporting to a police station a day late as part of her bail conditions.

In his ruling, Mambanje said that Mamombe had valid reasons to default.

Election Resource Centre Piles Pressure On Mnangagwa To Implement Reforms

Mnangagwa Takes Nation Back To Ian Smith Era

Tinashe Sambiri|Respected political analyst, Dr Pedzisai Ruhanya says the Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa has run out of ideas needed to revive the waning economy.

Dr Ruhanya scoffed at the “reintroduction of ancient and outdated passenger trains” supposedly to ease transport problems in urban areas.

He also described the so called second republic as “refurbished Rhodesia.”

“They say
@nelsonchamisa

New Imported ZUPCO Buses Are Auxillia Mnangagwa’s Personal Fleet

The new fleet of white buses being imported from China belong to Emmerson Mnangagwa’s wife, Auxillia. The revelations are contained in audit reports revealed by ZimEye in 2020.

The expose also comes at a time government over the last 12 months, has imported more than 400 buses from China, not only boosting the Zupco fleet, but starting the process of standardising models easing maintenance and allowing good stocks of spares.

About Hypertension Symptoms

Nicky Mahlangu Has Died-British Police

Dear Editor

Newham Police in London are appealing to Zimbabweans in UK and abroad to help identify relatives of a man known as NICKY MAHLANGU who was found dead at his house this morning. Police told me they can’t find any links to relatives and the phone numbers in his mobile phone are those for workmates and former workmates at Newham Council. They have failed to get the next of kin and they only contacted me because l’m a registered Newham, London resident from Zimbabwe. I’m told he wasn’t feeling well sometime last week and was sent home to recover. He died alone at his home and postmortem will confirm when exactly he died, police said.

The police are stranded and desperately need to trace his relatives. There is no picture of the late Mahlangu and his suspected facebook page has no picture or enough info about his life. His colleagues and ex colleagues all confirm he told them he was originally from Zimbabwe but knew non of his family members or relatives. The deceased is described as approximately 1.6 metres tall and is believed to be in his late 40s or early 50s, with no tattoos or any distinguishing marks on his body. Please help people. Anyone with information please contact Newham police or call London Borough of Newham Enforcement, phone number 00442033730660
