Emmerson Mnangagwa’s own publicist, and authorised biographer, Eddie Cross has exposed him for falsifying that he was sentenced to death for bombing a Rhodesian Train.
Cross reveals with impecable evidence that Mnangagwa did not bomb any property, and he was spared the death penalty because his crime was not that serious, Oxford academic, Miles Tendi argues.
Cross’ biography corrects falsifications of significant episodes in Mnangagwa’s life story, writes Tendi.
He continues saying: One example will suffice. Mnangagwa, in The Sunday Mail of 22 February 2015, narrated that he was spared the death penalty in 1965 for using explosives to cause damage to a railway engine, as part of early liberation struggle sabotage campaigns. According to Mnangagwa in 2015: “the age of majority then was 21. I was below 21, so I escaped the noose. My colleagues were, however, hanged”.
Cross corrects this account by reproducing the High Court of Rhodesia’s 1965 sentence in the biography.
The High Court’s sentence reads: the court accepts “the fact that you are 18 years and seven months old. That being so, in terms of this section of the Law and Order (Maintenance) Act, the court has a discretion as to whether to impose upon you the death penalty or to send you to prison for a period up to a maximum of 20 years. Generally speaking, it seems to me that where the Court has a discretion in dealing with an offender under the age of 19, the death penalty is appropriate for the worst type of case where, for example, petrol bombs have been cold-bloodedly and deliberately thrown into residential buildings occupied by persons causing them misery and suffering. This is not such a case, although it is a serious crime according to law. I do not therefore propose to sentence you to death in this case”.
Thus, contrary to Mnangagwa’s longstanding claim he was spared death because he was underage, Mnangagwa was in fact not sentenced to death in 1965 because his crime was considered by the judge as not grave enough to warrant hanging. Cross deserves commendation for setting the historical record straight in this instance.
FULL TEXT:
This authorised biography tells the life history of Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, from childhood to presidency. The biography is 153 pages long. It consists of a foreword, an editor’s note by Rachel Jambaya, 30 brief chapters, and a conclusion.
The biographer, Eddie Graham Cross, is an economist, a regular commentator on public affairs and former Secretary for Economic Affairs in the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), a party he left in 2018 after 19 years of serving in a range of executive positions at national level. Cross drew on personal interviews with Mnangagwa in order to complete the biography.
Cross has written a controversial biography of Mnangagwa.
The biography depicts vice president Constantino Chiwenga, the former general who helped bring Mnangagwa to power in a military coup in 2017, in an unfavourable light. It is also replete with conspicuous historical distortions and silences. Nonetheless, the biography does have some strengths, such as its presentation of the true version of certain important events in Mnangagwa’s life.
Cross’s corrections bring to light Mnangagwa’s mythomania. Mnangagwa penned the biography’s foreword, graced its official presentation on 5 August 2021, delightedly signed copies of the book at the launch and he did not publicly rebut any of the biography’s contents. Consequently, it is fair to conclude that Mnangagwa wholly endorses his biographer’s work.
Cross writes that following Mnangagwa’s inauguration as president of Zimbabwe on 24 November 2017, “he set about selecting a new cabinet and senior staff in the president’s office. This was complicated by the demands being made by the senior military officers who had carried out what became known as the military assisted transition (military coup). Chief among these was the commander of the armed forces, General Chiwenga”.
Cross adds that Mnangagwa’s first cabinet “received mixed reviews” partly because it contained “too many military figures”.
Elsewhere in the biography, Cross states Mnangagwa “replaced General Chiwenga with General Philip Sibanda” as commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces and he avers that Sibanda is “possibly the best soldier in southern Africa and a man that was deeply respected in the army. Mnangagwa’s actions drew little attention but what the president was doing was closing the door on any possibility of the military assisted transition (military coup) being repeated. He needed to know that the security services were led by men in whom he had confidence as professionals”.
Additionally, Cross maintains that when violence and looting occurred in January 2019, the acting President Chiwenga “demanded that a state of emergency be declared and martial law be introduced. This would have effectively meant that the armed forces took over the administration of the state”. However, Cross continues, “General Sibanda refused. He said his orders from the President were clear. What had happened was that the President had stamped his personal authority on the state. He would not tolerate any challenge”.
Cross makes reference to “hardliners” (Chiwenga ostensibly) who, before the July 2018 election, “argued that reforms to the electoral system and any relaxation of controls over the media and civil society would have serious impact on the ability of ZANU PF to win the election.
Moreover, Cross contends that a grenade thrown at Mnangagwa on 23 June 2018 during a ZANU PF rally at White City stadium in Bulawayo “was of Chinese origin and in use by the Zimbabwe National Army”.
Chiwenga was present at the White City rally and his wife Marry sustained injuries from the blast but Cross, curiously, does not mention this. Of the two vice presidents, only Kembo Mohadi is identified as present at the rally and as having sustained injuries along with 47 others.
From the foregoing, Cross appears to be casting aspersions on Chiwenga as a political operator. His biography suggests that Mnangagwa and Chiwenga are ill at ease with each other. Cross typecasts Chiwenga as obstructing political and economic reforms and as in favour of repressive and militarised state responses such as martial law. He intimates that Sibanda is a more “professional” soldier than Chiwenga who Mnangagwa trusts will not carry out a coup – a contentious assertion, given that Sibanda participated in the 2017 coup.
Let me now turn to some of the ways in which the biography corrects falsifications of significant episodes in Mnangagwa’s life story. One example will suffice.
Although Cross debunks some of Mnangagwa’s mythomania, he too is a mythomaniac. For example, Cross writes that Mnangagwa “was designated as one of the leaders” of the crocodile gang in the 1960s and insinuates that Mnangagwa was involved in the killing of Pieter Oberholzer in Chimanimani in 1964. Mnangagwa was, of course, not a member of the crocodile gang and he was not implicated in Oberholzer’s killings, as scholarly works by Baxter Tavuyanago and Terence Ranger show.
Cross’s expertise as an economist encumbered his ability to generate a credible biography of Mnangagwa. Trained economists should probably stick to writing about economics, not liberation, military and political histories, which are beyond their knowledge.
For instance, Cross refers to the Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army (ZIPRA) as the ‘Zimbabwe Independent People’s Revolutionary Army’.
In 1978, ZIPRA shot down two Rhodesian Viscount planes but Cross writes that the downing occurred in 1962 and, erroneously, uses it as an example of how the “guerrilla war was gaining momentum”.
Furthermore, according to Cross, in 1975 Herbert Chitepo was “assassinated in what is suspected as inter party violence and conflict”. This is a bizarre contention since the competing views on Chitepo’s assassination are that it was the result of an intra ZANU conflict or that the Rhodesian security forces carried out the hit. Is Cross suggesting, through the statement ‘inter party conflict’, that ZAPU assassinated Chitepo?
What is the evidence for this?
Zimbabwe entered the second Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) war to assist Laurent Kabila to fend off a rebel insurgency in 1998, but Cross, incorrectly, writes that Zimbabwe intervened “to support the campaign by Laurent Desire Kabila to take power from the long standing dictator Mobutu Sese Seko”.
What is more, the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) was created through the merger of three rival armies – the Rhodesian army, ZANLA and ZIPRA but Cross, speciously, writes that five armies merged to form the ZNA.
Then there are the biography’s historical silences.
Despite crediting Mnangagwa as having taken charge of operations during the late 1990s DRC war, Cross is silent about United Nations and non-governmental organisation reports about corruption during Zimbabwe’s involvement in the second DRC war.
Cross also seeks to downplay the role of Mnangagwa and the CIO in the 1980s Gukurahundi. Cross would have us believe that Mugabe’s instructions on Gukurahundi only went directly to "the 5th Brigade and to the Ministry Of Home Affairs and the Police on the ground" and excluded CIO, which fell under Mnangagwa’s Security Ministry.
Yet, as the CCJPZ report Breaking The Silence: Report On The Disturbances in Matabeleland and Midlands discloses, CIO was in fact central to Gukurahundi operations and it functioned from within Mugabe’s office. Cross is also silent about Mnangagwa’s role in the strong March to June 2008 political violence.
Cross’s writing radiates colonial overtones.
The scholar Kristen Harkness points out that “British martial race doctrine, developed first in colonial India, stipulated that some ethnic groups were naturally more suited to combat and military discipline than others. Once groups were classified as martial they were preferentially recruited into the British colonial forces”.
It is precisely this colonial martial race doctrine that underlies Cross’s unevidenced contention that Mnangagwa was recruited in ZAPU in 1962 partly because of “his potential from a military point of view given his Karanga tribal background and physique” – the implication being that Karangas are “naturally more suited to combat”.
Indeed, Cross largely understands the politics and history of Africans through colonial tropes like “tribes” and “tribalism”. Never mind that the notion of “tribe” is, today, bereft of analytical purchase because it lacks a sense of social scale and complexity and it presupposes savagery, primitiveness, irrational violence and ancient hatreds in Africans.
A final important silence concerns Mnangagwa’s personal dimension. Bar his early family history, we get no real sense of who Mnangagwa is today, his actual character away from political performance and the composition of his immediate family, making for a rather impersonal biography.
The wives of politicians matter. Who is Auxillia Mnangagwa and how has she impacted Mnangagwa’s personal and political trajectories? What are the ideas, thinkers or books that have shaped Mnangagwa’s political outlooks?
Perhaps Cross will care to address these crucial questions and the aforementioned shortcomings in a second edition of his biography of Mnangagwa.

IMF FUNDS MUST BE DISBURSED TRANSPARENTLY AND FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PEOPLE
In August 2021, the IMF implemented a general allocation of Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) equivalent to about US$650 billion. (SDR 456 billion). Zimbabwe has been allocated an equivalent of US$961m. Zimbabwe is automatically entitled to SDRs by virtue of it being a member country of the IMF. Contrary to the assertion made by Minister Mthuli Ncube, this is not a “vote of confidence” in the economy but a standard allocation that is made to all IMF members regardless of how their economies are faring.
This is not the first time that Zimbabwe has received SDRs. After the global financial crisis of 2008, the IMF released SDRs to help member states.
Under the MDC Ministry of Finance, Hon. Tendai Biti, the government of the day used the SDR’s responsibly to strengthen the country’s reserves and pay back its loans to IMF. Of the US$400m received by Zimbabwe in 2009, US$140m was used to settle IMF arrears.
By showing the world that Zimbabwe was prudent and keen on solving its external debt problem, we built goodwill with bilateral and multilateral lenders. This was a precursor to the LIMA debt management plan of 2016.
Zimbabwe’s debt problem is a time bomb that affects not only the current generation but future generations as well. The best we can do for the future of our country is ensure the next generation inherits a prosperous nation and not one laden with onerous high interest debt.
In light of this, the SDRs received by Zimbabwe should in the IMF’s own words, help “ the economic conjuncture and the stage of the COVID-19 pandemic, the adequacy of reserves, the availability of fiscal and monetary policy space, domestic and external debt sustainability and financial stability, financing constraints, and other country-specific factors.”
The IMF went further to note the risk of misusing SDR’s in countries with “unsustainable debt or weak governance.” The current levels of corruption in the country and our unsustainable debt is precisely what the IMF is warning against. The risk of mis-use is very high.
At the same time the precarious macro-economic environment which requires attention could be delayed. Zanu PF, given a bit of fiscal space, heading towards an election is likely to use the money for electioneering if not held to account.
The past is replete with examples of how the regime misuses funds to fund election campaigns. There is no reason to believe this time it will be any different.
As a government in waiting, our priority is to be vigilant and call for transparency and stronger scrutiny of how the SDR’s will be disbursed. They must be used for the benefit of the people and not be looted by political elites. Safety nets must be availed to the poor.
We call for the Auditor-General’s office to be further capacitated to audit, monitor and report timeously to the people of Zimbabwe on how these funds are being disbursed.
We further urge journalists and citizens to be alert and expose corruption wherever it manifests and to demand accountability.
By holding government to account, we will ensure the SDR’s reach the intended vulnerable members of our society and be used in the fight against Covid-19.

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has sent a condolence message to the Shaya family following the death of Dynamos legend George “Mastermind” Shaya.
In a statement on Tuesday, ZIFA Communications and Competitions Manager Xolisani Gwesela described the late as a footballer par excellence whose shoes will be difficult to fill. Said Gwesela:
The Zimbabwe Football Association conveys its heartfelt condolences to the Shaya Family and the local football fraternity at large following the sad passing of football legend George “Mastermind” Shaya, an exceptional footballer who excelled during the colonial era, one of the most difficult periods in the history of Zimbabwe.
His legacy of excellence as a serial winner and record-five time soccer star lives eternally to inspire many generations of local footballers.
Shaya (77) passed away early on Tuesday at his home in Glen Norah, Harare.
He is the only player to be named Soccer Star of The Year five times, that is, in 1969, 1972, 1975, 1976 and 1977.
Dynamos have since written to ZIFA seeking facilitation of conferment of national hero status on the late Shaya.- ZBC news online
By A Correspondent- The MDC led by Douglas Mwonzora said it had no grudge against Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema for not inviting them to his inauguration.
Hichilema invited Mwonzora’s rival, Nelson Chamisa and several other regional opposition heads of state to attend his inauguration last Tuesday.
MDC-T spokesperson Witness Dube said they held no grudges against the Zambian leader.
“Zambian President Hichilema has demonstrated the embodiment of our philosophy of rational disputation.
“It’s all about the principle of inclusivity and not about the personalities. We will not insult his gesture by discussing names of who he invited and who he didn’t,” Dube said.
He added, “We have been saying no matter our differences, we should have a high level of tolerance.
“Our reading of the invitation of opposition formations in the region says no matter which side of the political eye we look at things; we must still be able to come back and celebrate developments like the election of the Hichilema as Zambian President.”
By A Correspondent- Zanu PF government has turned down a request by Zimbabwe Football Association, ZIFA, for the football icon George Shaya to be granted national hero status.
Shaya died aged 77 in his Harare home following a long illness.
He will be buried at Warren Hills cemetery on Saturday.
Dynamos had written to Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) seeking facilitation of conferment of national hero status on the late former football star who dominated the soccer star of the year calendar in 1969, 1972, 1975, 1976 and 1977.
However, Sports minister Kirsty Coventry told the Shaya family that the football icon would get a state-assisted funeral on Wednesday.
“He is one of the greatest sportspersons to have emerged from this country,” said the minister.
“Government has, therefore, accorded him a state-assisted funeral.”
Coventry said, “The history of the game will be amiss without the mention of his name”.
By A Correspondent- The courts have persecuted a Harare man who was involved in a road accident with the Commander of the Defence Forces General Phillip Valerio by sentencing him to 12 months in jail.
Desmond Sinoia (51) is said to have rammed into General Sibanda’s car at the intersection of Glenara and Samora Machel in Harare on 23 August.
Sending him to jail Thursday, Harare magistrate Mrs Barbra Mateko also banned Sinoia from driving for the next eight months.
The accident happened when Sibanda’s aide was driving the car.
By A Correspondent- Former Zambian leader Edgar Lungu says he is still in shock and misses being at the country’s statehouse.
Lungu lost the Presidental election to his long time political rival Hikainde Hichilema.
Posting on his Twitter handle this week, Lungu said he had already missed statehouse,
” I carry with me great memories of the time I spent at State House; memories that we share with many who came as our guests. I’m thankful to the dedicated workers who made our stay memorable. My prayer is that the next residents will also create their wonderful memories,” he posted.
By A Correspondent- Another member of the Johanne Marange has been implicated in a child marriage scam.
Freddy Zonde (35) of Muzarabani is reportedly staying with a 13-year-old local girl who was in Grade 7 at Muringazuva Primary School.
This is happening at time when the nation is still to come to terms with the death of 14-year-old Anna Machaya due to labour complications in Marange recently.
Realising that the protests could result in him being arrested for marrying an under-age girl, Zonde, believed to be a vendor, is said to have whisked the young wife to St Mary’s, Chitungwiza.
Information on the marriage is being closely guarded by members of the community, which comprises mostly of the Apostolic sect members. The Herald visited the homestead of Zonde’s parents and interviewed family members with assistance from ward councillor, Alderman Norman Chizeya. Zonde’s father, Samuel Zonde, confirmed the marriage.
“It is true (that he married). He took the girl and went with her to Harare. He thought that nothing would happen. “He had no idea the case will stir a lot of interest. “Most of the people talking about this issue are fighting my family,” he said.
The father added that there were no problems with the in-laws, and they are not opening up about the case to strangers. All the other three wives are at Zonde’s father’s homestead. When The Herald later visited the homestead of the girl’s parents, no one was home and all doors were locked.
A villager who spoke on condition of anonymity said the community was angered by the marriage of Maria, adding that the girl’s parents never spoke against the marriage or reported the matter to the police, indicating they agreed to the union.
“To people, they are denying that she is married but we know that she eloped to the 35-year-old as the fourth wife. Her mother is at the forefront of the arranged marriage,” he said.
“Initially, he wanted to marry the girl’s sister, but he was beaten to her by another church member who came first and married her. Since the community started probing the issue, his cellphones are not reachable.”
Alderman Chizeya said the girl’s case was heartbreaking, and one of the many cases that go unrecorded. He added that ending child marriages was key to achieving Vision 2030 and the police must follow up on where the child was taken and take her back home so that she continues with education.
“The parents are involved and they must be held accountable. We must lead by example and we don’t tolerate child marriages,” he said. The village head, Mr Noahs Mashinye, said he was unaware of the marriage as the parties never approached him, although he has heard the rumour.
“I receive reports of such cases and we don’t tolerate child marriages. I hear about the case in the grapevine but I don’t deal with hearsay,” said. Mr Mashinye. “We work closely with councillors, health officers and the neighbourhood watch members.
“The people involved (the husband and wife) never approached me. The alleged perpetrator does not stay in the village as he is based in Harare.” Chief Muzarabani, born Alphonse Chuzu, said he had no idea about the case because such incidents were treated as top “secrets”.
The chief confirmed that child marriages among the Marange Apostolic sect were rife, adding that they had become a “culture”, among sect members. Married women in the sect allegedly sweet-talk young girls to join the marriage and become co-wives, said the chief.
Chief Muzarabani added there was need to engage the church leader since he is revered, so that he could be encouraged to change the harmful practices happening within the church.
“The village has nine village heads all from the church and when we try to probe such incidents, they deny and say such things don’t happen in their church,” said Chief Muzarabani.
“Church members know about all the developments and the young girl and her parents are in agreement. “The person who set such laws in the church is the only one who can repeal them. If not, all your prisons cells will be filled with the perpetrators and nothing will change.”
Another 35-Year-Old Johanne Marange Congregate Takes Girl (13) As 4th Wife!
Chief Muzarabani spoke strongly against child marriages, which he said were detrimental to economic development. “It is difficult to preside over these apostolic sect members before the traditional court for the child marriages cases because the practice is lawful in their church.
“The only solution is to engage their leader and he is the only one who can liberate the congregants from such laws. Muzarabani topped the list of child marriages and due to awareness campaigns, we are witnessing a decline in the practice.
“Let these young girls grow; it is our duty as a community to protect them. Parents need to play a central role in securing the girl child,” said Chief Muzarabani.
Community childcare worker Chipo Sakala, said they have put in place a robust protection system to protect children against emotional, s.e.xual and physical abuse.
“We have received tremendous support in caring for vulnerable children. We work together with our traditional leaders and we don’t hesitate to report cases of child abuse.
“We heard about the girl’s case, and although church members are denying it, police have been contacted,” said Mrs Sakala. Mashonaland Central provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Naison Ndliwayo said investigations were underway.

Paris Saint Germain have confirmed Kylian Mbappe is pushing for an exit at Parc des Princes.
The 22-year old is now in the final year of his contract at the French giants, and has yet to agree on a contract extension.
Real Madrid are being touted as a potential destination for the striker and a €160 million (£137m/$188m) bid was submitted earlier this week.
PSG’s sporting director Leonardo, however, has claimed Madrid are behaving “illegally” in their pursuit of the forward.
Leonardo said: “Kylian Mbappé wants to leave, that seems clear. If Real Madrid are making an offer, that seems clear… Me I am giving a position, that, I think, is clear for everyone.
“We cannot, the week before the end of the window, change our plans. If he wants to leave, we will not hold him back, but on our terms.”
He added: “In terms of our position on Real, it seems like a strategy to try to get a no from us, to show that they have tried everything and to wait for a year to get him for free.
“For the last 2 years, Real Madrid have been behaving like this, it is not correct, illegal even because they contacted the player. It is unacceptable for us, because it is not correct.
“It is proof of the strategy: an offer comes 1 year before the end of his contract and 7 days before the end of the window. They want us to reject to show to Kylian that they tried everything and to start negotiating for next year.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe
FIFA president Gianni Infantino has joined the calls for the UK government to exempt players from red-listed countries from the mandatory quarantine upon their return from international duty during the September window.
Several African countries, including Zimbabwe, have been affected by this stance as clubs are now refusing to release the players to avoid the quarantine.
The Warriors stand to miss the services of seven players in the World Cup Qualifiers – Group G games against South Africa in Harare on September 3 and away in Ethiopia four days later.
The stars include Aston Villa midfielder Marvelous Nakamba, Luton striker Admiral Muskwe, Ipswich forward Macauley Bonne, Bournemouth defender Jordan Zemura, David Moyo of Hamilton Academical and Wigan Athletic captain Tendayi Darikwa.
In a statement, Infantino said he has written to the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson over the issue.
“On the issue of quarantine restrictions in England, for players returning from red-list countries, I have written to Prime Minister Boris Johnson and appealed for the necessary support, in particular, so players are not deprived of the opportunity of representing their countries in qualifying matches for the FIFA World Cup, which is one of the ultimate honours for a professional footballer,” said the FIFA boss.
“I have suggested that an approach similar to that adopted by the UK government for the final stages of the Euro 2020 be implemented for the upcoming international matches.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Tinashe Sambiri|Citizens of the Republic of Zambia have declared that MDC Alliance leader President Nelson Chamisa will win the 2023 Presidential plebiscite resoundingly.
President Chamisa and Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa are seen as the main players in the 2023.
However, the Zanu PF leader is grappling with internal party wars and a waning economy.
Citizens of the Republic of Zambia believe Mr Mnangagwa, whose political record is punctuated by gross violation of human rights, will not win the 2023 polls.

Tinashe Sambiri | MDC Alliance deputy chairperson Hon Job Sikhala has described George Charamba’s crude language against perceived Zanu PF opponents as high-sounding gobbledygook meant to silence dissenting voices.

By Dorrothy Moyo | Emmerson Mnangagwa is preparing to drop Poladite Douglas Mwonzora, latest indications show.
A top ZANU PF protégé for economic development, the former Deputy Finance Minister Terence Mukupe, has flung the stick for Zimbabwe to follow the Botswana and Kenyan models of leadership in which the real opposition leader is given a mini role in running the country.
Mukupe has a reputation of several years as ZANU PF’s young face for policy formulation, and his statement is widely viewed as a yardstick for what is about to happen inside the ruling party.
He earlier in the week released the below statement saying:
My mentor, General XX, has asked me to stay off social media and to stop commenting on political things but I’m sorry I just couldn’t help it on this one…
Our politics in Zimbabwe needs to mature…
I as Terence Mukupe believe that our politics in Zimbabwe needs to mature if we are to get anywhere as a country… I’m happy that my significant military friends do agree..
It’s a well known fact that I don’t like Tendai Biti as a person, our kids were at the same school and we’d be at the same school events and would not even greet each other… It’s a fact that Tendai Biti’s right hand man Jacob Mafume has been my child hood friend and if I was to die today, he probably would be there running around at my funeral taking charge of events… likewise I have a very cordial relationship with Chamisa … I have no problem with what the MDC purports they want to do for our country as long as it advances the well being of our people
The same scenario above is true even within my own Party Zanu PF, there are people in my party I will not even greet and who likewise are sickened by my mere presence… and there are those that have true brotherly love for me… I also strongly believe in what is enshrined in the constitution of Zanu PF and the advancement of the original principles of our party… pasi nevanoda kuita Zimbabwe a private company yekungo mora!!
The problem we have in our country is that of intolerance. We have an opposition that has become a master at agitation propaganda … such-as the abductions, job Sikhala having sadza nemazai in the bush lol…and wanting power at all costs even if it means the ordinary person suffers. On our part as Zanu PF I strongly believe we can do more in accommodating those in the opposition in advancement of the national agenda… truly and sincerely open up the zbc radio and tv… we can’t have the same three people dominating news everyday…
The recent inauguration of HH in Zambia gave me pause. I’ve had the chance of interacting with HH once before and he definitely is a very sharp gentleman and whom I believe will give it his all to build on the good work done by my Sekuru Lungu. I know my friends from the KK family such as Duncan and Lekela Kaunda are elated with the election results.
Forget the Famba Dougie Famba craze… It’s a fact that the two most important people politically at the moment in the eyes of the ordinary person are my President ED and Advocate Chamisa. I know first hand behind the public grandstanding, generally the two gentleman respect each other even as they differ fundamentally politically. Their differences are ideological and not on a personal level… Chamisa when we have engaged, speaks glowingly of my President and more so on my favourite and very capable General Chiwenga whom I can’t wait to become the next President!!!
Some history lesson for you.
When Jomo Kenyatta died in 1978, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, his first Vice-President, with whom they had fallen out politically, attended the lying-in-state of the body at State House, Nairobi, and wept too after saying a prayer in Dholuo. After the dirge, he told the media he had no fundamental differences with Kenyatta. Fast forward both fathers are dead and the sons have taken center stage. In both official and personal interactions, President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga address each other as “ndugu” (brother). Raila at times officiates at functions on behalf of the President!!!
The Botswana President often has the leader of the opposition accompanying him… as he did at HH’s inauguration.
What Zimbabwe needs is generational consensus. VaMugabe and Tsvangirai are our Jomo Kenyatta and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga combo… we have turned a new leaf with the second republic… let’s be more accommodative off each other…
The toxic agitation propaganda isn’t getting us anywhere… I just want a better Zimbabwe for my children. It pains me that the bulk of us politicians have our kids in developed countries enjoying their best lives and yet here in Zim we engage in politics of self hate…
At some point something has to give and generational consensus has to carry the day!!!

By A Correspondent- Samsung televisions stolen during the looting last month in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng have been “blocked” so that criminals won’t be able to use them.
Samsung’s Cato Ridge distribution centre was raided during the unrest, but all of the stolen televisions were equipped with a “television block function”, the company said in a statement.
That means televisions can be disabled remotely.
Samsung activated the “TV block” function on all its TVs stolen on 11 July.
The blocking comes into effect when the user of a stolen television connects to the internet, in order to operate the television.
Once connected, the serial number of the television is identified on the Samsung server and the blocking system is implemented, disabling all the television’s functions.
“The aim of the technology is to mitigate against the creation of secondary markets linked to the sale of illegal goods, both in South Africa and beyond its borders,” said Mike van Lier, director of consumer electronics at Samsung South Africa in a statement.
The technology is already pre-loaded on all Samsung TV products, the company said in a statement.
Should a customer’s TV be incorrectly blocked, the functionality can be reinstated once proof of purchase and a valid TV licence are shared with Samsung.

By A Correspondent- ANC offices throughout the country will be closed on Thursday as a result of a planned strike action by workers.
This follows repeated challenges of late salary payments.
In June, disgruntled workers took to the streets after they were informed in April that their salaries would be late. As previously reported, the party said the problem of late payment will continue for the next three to six months due to ongoing financial problems.
The ruling party’s financial woes started in December 2019 and the situation worsened in April and June this year.
In a letter to staff on Wednesday, the ANC general manager Febe Potgieter indicated that the party’s finances were not in good shape.
“This is to indicate that we are not yet in a position to pay outstanding salaries for July 2021. Unfortunately, August 2021 salaries, due on the 25th of this month, will be delayed. I do regret the hardship and the uncertainty that this cause (to) staff and their families, and this is deeply regrettable.
“This is the first time that we are delayed with three months payment,” Potgieter said.
Just hours later, ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe issued a statement on the planned industrial action set to kick off tomorrow.
“The ANC management has received notice from ANC staff that as from today, 26 August 2021, they will go on strike in support of grievances submitted on 15 June 2021, including the payments of late salaries.
“As a result of this wildcat strike, ANC offices throughout the country will be closed as of tomorrow. The ANC management will continue to engage with staff representatives on their grievances, with a view to find a solution so that we can resume normal operations,” said Mabe.

By A Correspondent- A vendor in Chivhu was severely mauled by police dogs on Sunday and then made to pay a fine of ZWL$1 000 for allegedly violating current Level 4 COVID-19 lockdown regulations.
Police officers on patrol allegedly unleashed dogs on Enerty Chimedza, accusing her of remaining at her vending stall after the 3:30 pm business cut off time.
Chimedza is appealing to members of the public to assist her with money to buy prescription medicine given her by the doctor for the wounds. The drugs prescribed for her treatment cost US$140.
Speaking to Masvingo Mirror, Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachiii said he was yet to receive the report.
He said:
I am yet to receive that report however what the police officers did is not acceptable and why could they hide the Memo pertaining to such a tragic incident.
Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) spokesperson Kumbirai Mafunda condemned the police brutality describing the incident as a true sign of human rights abuse by the law enforcement agencies.
He said:
We condemn this kind of brutality by the police on this poor woman.
We are concerned about increasing cases across the country where the police are not executing their duty professionally.
They should not take the law into their hands and they should respect human rights.
Chimedza said that vendors at the market stall close at 3.30 pm but they leave one person to guard their wares until 6 pm when a security guard comes for the night shift.
She said: On this day I was on duty to guard the wares until the guard came. Police details found me at the market and accused me of violating COVID-19 regulations by doing business after 3. 30pm. They assaulted me before unleashing their dogs on me.
After her arrest, Chimedza was taken to Chivhu Police Station. She was made to pay ZWL$1 000 despite having been injured.
Chimedza said she was only given a letter by the police on Monday to get treatment at Chivhu General Hospital.
She went to see Chivhu General Hospital nurses on Monday and got a prescription for injections which cost US$140. The nurses told her that there were no drugs at the hospital.
Police did not bother to get her treated for the wounds and the spokesperson Chazovachiii said he was going to make a follow up on the issue.
Ward 9 Councillor Christopher Muchenje described the Police action as barbaric and lamented the concerned cops for showing no remorse for their heavy-handedness.
Meanwhile, vendors in Chivhu also accused cops of demanding sex from the women that they arrest and this is one of the conditions for getting one’s freedom.
They also accused Police in Chivhu of corruption and in particular they go around the small town taking bribes.
By A Correspondent- The Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) has slammed the government for announcing the dates for the resumption of classes barely 24 hours after extending the COVID-19 lockdown.
On Tuesday evening, Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa announced the extension of the national lockdown by another two weeks.
But following a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Mutsvangwa said examination classes would open on 30 August 2021, while non-examination classes would open on 6 September.
In a statement yesterday, PTUZ president Takavafira Zhou said the government had “ambushed” teachers and parents as it did not give them time to prepare for the reopening of schools.
Below is Zhou’s statement on teachers’ reaction to the government’s school reopening time frames in full:
We have not yet received formal communication from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in terms of time frames for the reopening of schools, but understand that such time frames were given today by the government.
Against even its own indicators, we are really surprised that the government has enunciated that examination classes would open on 30 August 2021, while non-examination classes would open on 6 September.
This is surely an ambush, a day after the government had even enunciated an extension of lockdown for two weeks which ordinarily entailed that the issue of opening of schools would be determined after two weeks.
Teachers Unions also made suggestions for the successful reopening of schools and one would have thought that there would be an attempt to reconcile various Union submissions before the government would announce the dates for reopening of schools.
However, this has not happened as the tragedy in life is that those who make decisions may not necessarily have ideas, while those with ideas (teachers) do not make decisions.
Our projection as Ptuz was to the effect that schools could open around September payday taking advantage of hot temperatures and more vaccination to contribute to the decline of COVID-19 cases and giving the government adequate time to provide covid abatement equipment to schools, let alone providing running water to many schools.
It was also our hope that schools would open after the government would have addressed the quandary of teachers’ starvation wages.
Now that the government has come with this ambush, disregarding logic and common sense, and bearing in mind that teachers are grossly incapacitated and cannot even travel to their respective working stations, let alone pay school fees, it is incumbent upon them to respond to government’s enunciation.
We, therefore, urge PTUZ members in particular and teachers in general to communicate their response over the untimely announcement for the opening of schools to their respective district leaders across the country and the districts to the respective provinces, and in turn the provinces to PTUZ HQ.
As PTUZ leadership, we are merely conveyor belts of teachers’ interests and feelings and will resolutely and resiliently stand by resolutions that teachers would make.
Hope teachers would treat this communique with the urgency it deserves.
By A Correspondent | 7 Zimbabweans deported from the UK arrived at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe Airport at around 9am aboard a Boeing 767, chartered from London’s Stansted Airport.
The 7, down from an initial 9, are now heading to Zipam quarantine centre where they will stay during the mandatory 10 days of isolation.
Sources at Gatwick Airport told ZimEye, scores of Zimbabweans were bundled up at 5pm yesterday en route for deportation to Zimbabwe.
Although there was no traceable detail on flight tracking websites, a chartered jet is expected to arrive with the group of deportees at RGM airport on Thursday morning.
The phone number of Zimbabweans deported could not be determined at the time of writing.
The deportations are part of an agreement between the British Embassy in Harare and the Foreign Affairs Ministry in which 6,000 Zimbabweans classified as foreign offenders are being sent back to their country if birth.
By A Correspondent- Zanu-PF Mazowe district co-ordinating committee chairperson Tafadzwa Musarara has blasted Mvurwi police and the local council for harassing vendors.
Musarara was speaking at a funeral of a Zanu-PF official, Alfa Nyangoni in Mvurwi on Saturday.
“I am being advised that the police and council were harassing vendors in this town. That should stop. We want vendors to be free. The DCC is promising you that we are going to engage both the police and the council on that matter,” he said to wild cheers from vendors. Vendors, who spoke to NewsDay, said they were losing their goods to council officials and accused the local authority of charging exorbitant fees per day for them to operate on the streets.
“We are being harassed by the police who are using their cars to chase us. Most of the time, we leave our goods on the streets as we flee and they confiscate them. We hope with this new leadership, we are going to be assisted,” Dudzai Mabwe said.
Another vendor, Ian Gomwe said Mvurwi Town Council was charging US$1 per day for a temporary vending stall.
“The council is charging $1 per day and that amount is too much for a temporary place where there is no toilet. If you sum up that money per month, it will be US$30 while other market places in other towns are charging US$10 per month. We demand action on that issue,” Gomwe said.
Council chairperson Alderman Shereni Mazhambe promised to act on the matter. “We have heard the vendors’ concerns and we are surely going to take action,” he said.
By A Correspondent- Enforcement of the Covid-19 lockdown is being intensified with 36 students and nine teachers from a private Harare college arrested on Tuesday, when police found the college operating in defiance of the lockdown. Sixty revellers and bar owners were also arrested over the weekend after illegally opened bars were raided.
The students and staff from ZMC College in the city centre were arrested following a tip-off from the public, much the same as the assorted raids on opened bars and nightclubs were done after information was passed on to the police.
Under Level 4 lockdown measures, face-to-face lessons at all schools and colleges have been suspended, and all bars and nightclubs have been closed since the start of the lockdown in March last year, although bottle stores can sell take-away alcohol during normal shop hours.
Those caught in the raids are usually released after paying admission of guilt fines, although the police reserve the right to take culprits to court if they reckon the offence is more serious than a deposit fine can cover.
In addition, the police pass on details of any business that opens in defiance of the regulations, or opens outside the permitted hours, to the appropriate licensing authority, which could suspend or cancel the business licence. When it came to ZMC College, the staff and students were all taken down to Harare Central Police Station for processing and most were released after being fined.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi thanked the public for their help and issued the standard warnings that those who break the law will face the consequences.
“The ZRP applauds the public for supplying credible information which goes a long way in fighting crime. This comes after police in Harare acted on a tip off and arrested 36 students and nine staff members at ZMC College for conducting lessons in violation of Covid-19 protocols,” he said.
Asst Comm Nyathi urged the public to continue observing Government’s Covid-19 health, safety and security protocols by wearing face masks, practising social distancing and sanitisation.
Faced with a growing spate of shebeens, bars and clubs quietly opening, police have warned bar owners and shebeen operators that they will not hesitate to arrest them if they continue defying lockdown orders. And in these arrests the liquor on the premises is seized as an exhibit. Asst Comm Nyathi said: “Shebeen operators are warned that the law will take its course without fail.
On Saturday, police in Masvingo arrested two people at a shebeen in Mucheke and recovered several crates of liquor.” On Monday at around 11pm, police arrested Richard Musindo aged 50 for breaching the Covid-19 lockdown after he was found selling liquor at Lagoon Night Club in Majange, Masvingo.
Over the weekend police also conducted some raids on some rogue bars, beerhalls and night club operators and arrested at least 60 people who were found drinking beer in Harare. Several people including bar operators were arrested and most of them were released after being fined.
The raids were conducted in the city centre and various suburbs in and around Harare. On Thursday last week, police arrested Tendai Mosaland at Eastview 4 in Harare after he was found selling liquor. Several alcohol brands were recovered from the premises.
Last Saturday night, they also arrested Christina Zilala (37) and Clifford Takaendesa after they were found selling beer to people in Chitungwiza. Police impounded several crates of beer. There were recent reports that owners of bars, beerhalls and night clubs who breach lockdown regulations face arrest and will be reported to the Liquor Licensing Board, which may revoke their licences, the police have warned.
Bars, beerhalls and night clubs have to remain closed. While bottle stores can sell alcohol, their customers cannot drink on site. Police said they will ensure that licences are handed over to the relevant Government arms for the stipulated penalties to be effected.
The lockdown at all levels targets social drinking as a major incubator of Covid-19, and the higher levels of lockdown target restaurants with sit-in customers although they are allowed to sell take-away food and drink. Restaurants at lower levels can have limited sit-in diners, so long as they are spaced out. A major problem with drinking and eating is that people cannot do this while masked, and in a social environment they tend to ignore all the other safeguard.

By A Correspondent- The Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces General Phillip Valerio Sibanda was nearly killed in an accident when a motorist rammed into his motorcade on Monday, a magistrate court heard yesterday.
Sinoia Desmond (51) appeared before magistrate Barbara Mateko yesterday and pleaded guilty to a charge of negligent driving.
Magistrate Mateko remanded him in custody for sentencing today.
The State said on August 23 this year and at around 1650hours, Desmond failed to give way along Glenara Avenue intersection and hit a vehicle that had General Valerio Sibanda and his aide, Squadron leader Mark Pride Mangwende on board.
Prosecutor Caroline Mutimusakwa said the accused person should be handed a sentence that would deter would-be road offenders.

It’s very cruel how our relatives are being treated. They were arrested for simply complaining kuti 16000 rtgs (less than USD$100) that they earn monthly isn’t enough.
About 9 war veteran were yesterday arrested by police while visiting Minister of Finance and Economic Development Mthuli Ncube to ask for payment of their unpaid gratuities.
The group were Thursday, still incarcerated at Harare Central Police station. It was not clear at the time of writing, if they have been charged.
The war veterans, now elderly people, were scheduled for a meeting with Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube when they were surprised by police who bundled them to Harare Central Police Station, journalist Rex Mphisa reported.
National Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi told the journo he had not been advised of the arrest.
“I have not been advised of this arrest. I was busy attending to a visit by Minister of Local Government (July Moyo) and was not informed of this development,” said Nyathi.
An unidentified female war veteran said she was part of a group of the former freedom fighters but slipped away when police rounded them at the Finance ministry headquarters.
“We were invited to attend a meeting with the minister this Wednesday but we found police waiting for us and I slipped away denying I was party to the group,” she said.
War veterans are pressing for the disbursement of their High Court awarded gratuities of the equivalent of US $2 000 monthly after winning a legal battle against Government.
Since their court victory, they have never received a cent and are now impatient.
Those arrested yesterday had not been charged after those in charge of Harare Police District were reportedly jittery on what charges to press although they refused to release the ageing former freedom fighters.
“The Dispol for Harare who is said to have ordered for our comrades arrest said he was off duty and asked the Law and Order Section to take over.
“Our comrades had an appointment and were not violent. We are surprised at this reaction,” another war veteran said.
Since the leadership of the late former president Robert Mugabe deposed in 2017 war veterans have been pressing for their gratuities.
Some claim the government used them towards elections and dumped them soon after securing mandate.
While it is not clear where funds to compensate displaced white commercial farmers were from, the veterans are against the move being done before their gratuities are disbursed.
“Many of our comrades are dying in abject poverty. The country should reward us for our sacrifices,” said one of the freedom fighters.
Zanu PF which is gearing for a landslide 2023 general election victory has already appealed to the veterans of the struggle to mobilise voters.
Yesterday some members of a social group of war veterans said they would approach their lawyers to secure the release of their comrades held at Harare Central Police. – Rex Mphisa/ Additional
By A Correspondent- A Rusape Town Council police officer – who went missing over the past three weeks – was on Friday found dead on the shores of Rusape Dam, plunging his family and the community into mourning.
The body of Jairosi Ishmael Chirinda was, however, retrieved from the gigantic water reservoir by the police sub-aqua unit and council police officers on Saturday morning.
Rusape police spokesman Assistant Inspector Muzondiwa Clean confirmed the retrieval of Chirinda’s body from the dam and said investigations were in progress.
Asst Insp Clean said Chirinda disappeared on July 30, 2021, around 11pm, prompting the family to make a missing person report early this month.
The body was first found by some fishmongers on Friday, who made a report at Rusape Urban Police Station.
RTC chairman Cllr Lyton Sithole said Chirinda’s body was taken to Rusape General Hospital mortuary.
“The body is expected to undergo pathological tests in Harare early this week. The body was still intact though it had slight deformities on the face,” said Clr Sithole.

What ZANU PF spokesman Simon Khaya Moyo said that Zimbabwe will never be run by the opposition has proved an empty theory, MDC Alliance Youth National Chair (Acting) Cecilia Chimbiri writes.
With a bold face Ian Smith once said: “I don’t believe in majority rule ever in Rhodesia… not in a 1,000 years.”
He said white rule would last for a li years, but this prophecy was destined to be drowned in bloodshed. .
People like Simon Khaya Moyo and Emerson Mnangagwa will only be remembered as a small-minded Canutes. For those of you who have come across the story of Danish king of England (Canute).
He is only remembered for standing in front of the sea in order to show people that he was not able to order the water that was moving in towards the land to turn back. The story is often changed to suggest that Canute really thought that he could turn back the sea.
It can’t and it won’t if these Canutes do not realize that a wave of change and its winds are sweeping inexorably across Africa . #RegisterToVote
By A Correspondent- A gogo is traumatised and is too scared to live with her son.
This comes after her 41-year-old late husband’s son tried to kill her on 2 August, accusing her of wanting to sell her house. The gogo (81) from Khayelitsha, Cape Town, told Daily Sun she has a big water bill, so she was being helped by a relative to take the matter to court to cancel the bill.
When her son saw the court papers, he allegedly became angry and accused the gogo of wanting to sell the house behind his back.
“This is my house. I bought it with my late husband. But his son said it was his ‘inheritance’ and I must never think of selling it. He pressed a knife against my neck and asked me to recite my last prayer. I asked him to read the papers properly, but it made him angrier. He said I think he’s dumb.”
She said she was tormented for more than an hour.
“When I begged him to allow me to go to the toilet, he told me to kak in my pants. He doesn’t care.”
Gogo said she was sitting on a sofa near the door and when her son stood up to go to the toilet, she managed to open the door and scream for help. Neighbours came to her rescue, leading to her son’s arrest.
A neighbour said when she arrived, the gogo’s son almost hit the gogo with a plate full of food.
Even though her son was arrested, gogo said she didn’t want him anywhere near her if he is released.
She said he must collect his clothes in the presence of cops.
“I would rather kill myself if he wants to live with me again,” she said.
One of gogo’s relatives has been living with her since the incident as the gogo’s other child is in Free State. However, on the day of the incident, another relative had come to help clean the house.
“I would have been dead if she was not present. When I was being attacked, she was told to sit next to me and was only allowed to fetch water and food for me,” said gogo.
The woman said she had helped the gogo clean the house on several occasions, but had never seen her son angry like that.
Police spokesman Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said: “The matter was reported on Monday, 2 August. The argument became heated and the man assaulted the victim. Lingelethu police are investigating a case of common assault.”

Shaya, arguably the greatest Zimbabwean footballer of all time, will be buried on Saturday at Warren Hills Cemetery in Harare.
Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Minister, Kirsty Coventry, conveyed the message to the Shaya family, on Wednesday.
She said:
First of all, I would like to convey my heartfelt condolences to the Shaya family, following the passing on of the great George Shaya.
He is one of the greatest sportspersons to have emerged from this country.
Government has, therefore, accorded him a state-assisted funeral.
His death is not only a blow to the Shaya family, but to Zimbabwe, as a whole.
The history of the game will be amiss without the mention of his name.
Coventry, who was accompanied by her deputy, Tino Machakaire, also took time to chat with the legends, who were in attendance.
They included Sunday “Mhofu” Chidzambwa, John “JP” Phiri, Raphael Kaondera, Stewart “Shutto” Murisa, David George and George Nechironga.
On Tuesday, Dynamos appealed to authorities to consider honouring Shaya with national hero status.-statemedia

The Uebert Angel supporter Mudiwa Hood was on Thursday challenged to produce his title deeds, following his statements discouraging women against keeping men who are struggling financially.
The development led to the late president Robert Mugabe’s son Chatunga, chipping in to criticize Mudiwa, saying material possessions should not be the defining factor of what a man is.

By A Correspondent- Bulawayo City Council (BCC) is struggling to fill nursing posts as more health personnel leave the local authority for greener pastures.
Council, government and private health institutions are battling an exodus of personnel, particularly to the United Kingdom.
In Bulawayo, council clinics are already reportedly operating below 50% staff capacity as the council is losing at least 10 nurses every month.
In May, the Local Government ministry approved a council request to fill 400 vacant posts. The local authority had written to the ministry requesting permission to hire 1 341 staffers over a four-year period, citing a human resources crisis.
However, Bulawayo deputy mayor Mlandu Ncube yesterday said despite the Local Government ministry approval, there had been not much improvement in staffing levels as more nurses continue to leave the local authority.
“Government did approve our request to hire about 400 workers. We have managed to fill some of the posts, but we still have challenges in terms of shortages of nurses at our clinics. The major challenge is that, for example, when you hire 10 nurses, you realise that 15 nurses are quitting at the same time,” Ncube said.
In 2010, the government in terms of section 313 of the Urban Councils Act declared that no local authority would employ at any level or grade, including casual or contract workers, without written permission from the minister.
The local authority has also been blaming staff shortages for failure to attend to service delivery issues such as burst pipes on time.
She said:
On this day I was on duty to guard the wares until the guard came.
By A Correspondent- Two Ordinary Level students, who were denied their results over alleged cheating have sued the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) demanding their release.
The students, Ashley Mutandwa and Jimmy Chinembiri have approached the High Court seeking an order compelling Zimsec to release the results of their Maths examination papers
They submitted that they sat for their examination at Vimbai High School and passed Mathematics Paper 2 with high marks, but in some instances, provided wrong workings with correct answers.
Zimsec failed to prove that they had cheated.
“Chinembiri and I are among ‘O’ Level students that sat for a Mathematics Paper 2 (4004/02) in the November 2020 session. Pursuant to having written the examinations, and on the 8th June 2021, Zimsec communicated to our respective schools that it had withheld all our results on the basis that we were part of a group of students who had ‘accessed’ the Mathematics Paper 2 question paper via social media,” Mutandwa said in his affidavit to the court.
“Zimsec has failed to link either of us to the examination malpractice and only base their argument on the fact that we passed one paper with flying colours and failed the other.”
They said the refusal by Zimsec to release their results was infringing their constitutional right to proceed with their education.
“Zimsec has not treated this matter fairly and with the urgency that it deserves,” the pair’s lawyer, Nyasha Chiota submitted.
“Zimsec has failed to prove that indeed there was a commission of an examination malpractice by the applicants.”
The matter is pending.

Sabbath School Summary_
LESSON 9
By Dr Elder Masimba Mavaza | The Rhythms of Rest
_Memory Text: Genesis 2:3
Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made”
INTRODUCTION.
Who can imagine what the acts of Creation—light amid dark-ness, oceans brimming with life, birds suddenly taking flight—must have been like? And the supernatural creation of Adam and Eve? We can’t even begin to grasp how God did it. But then, after all of this active creating, God turned His attention to something else. At first glance, it did not seem as spectacular as leaping whales or dazzling feather displays. God simply made a day, the seventh day, and then He made it special. Even before humanity would dash off to our self-imposed stressful lives, God set a marker as a living memory aid. God wanted this day to be a time for us to stop and deliberately enjoy life—a day to be and not do, to celebrate the gift of grass; air; wildlife; water; people; and, most of all, the Creator of every good gift.
This invitation would continue even after the first couple was exiled from Eden. God wanted to make sure that the invitation could stand the test of time, and so, right from the beginning, He knit it into the very fabric of time itself.
*SABBATH*: Mind cannot grasp the beauty of the world when it was first launched by its Maker (God)—the world beaming with light, the birds taking their first flight, the ocean brimming with life, & the supernatural creation of man. God made a special day (the 7th day) & rested as a marker for all lives to pause & enjoy creation. This rest was & is perpetual. From start, God knit it into the fabric of time itself.
*SUNDAY*: God called the world into being in the beginning. He dressed it with beauty; light & darkness on the 1st day; firmament, sky, & seas on the 2nd day; plants & dry land on the 3rd day; the sun, moons, & stars on the 4th day; animals on the 5th & 6th day, & man on the 6th too (Gen. 1-31). It’s false that the sun & moon are deities. God shaped man, gave him breath of life, & blessed him with marriage (Gen. 2:7, 21-24).
*MONDAY*: The 7th day was made by God as a special day to crown the work of creation. It was God’s gift to man. Even in Paradise, God saw that man needed rest (Gen. 2:3). Sadly, sin marred the beauty of creation. Man lost direct contact with God, had to toil & there were painful births. Yet, the Sabbath, the memorial of creation was forever. Israel was to keep it after slavery in Egypt (Exod. 20:8-11, DA, p. 281).
*TUESDAY*: Accustomed to the lack of faith of their parents, the new breed of Israelites after 40 years of wandering in the desert sinned. Their parents died & they had little memories of Egypt. Yet, they were blessed to have the sanctuary. God was to them a pillar of cloud by day & a pillar of fire by night. They were reminded about the need to keep the Sabbath in the manna miracle (Exod. 16:14-31, Deut. 5:6-22).
*WEDNESDAY*: Repeatedly, the new generation of Israel were told that the Sinai covenant was not for only their parents but for them too. After their conquest of other nations, the Decalogue was spelt to them. They were to “observe” the Sabbath & “remember” (Exod. 20:8-11; Deut. 5:12-15). They’d have been slaves if God had not saved their parents in Egypt (Isa. 43:15). The Sabbath symbolizes creation & redemption.
*THURSDAY*: Keeping the Sabbath holy is a command. We may not have all the details on how to keep it, but what is sure is that it is a joyous celebration of Creation & Redemption in God (Ps. 92 & Isa. 58:13). It should be a delight. To keep it holy, one must plan for it from the first day of the week (Mark 15:42). The day is for; fellowship (friends & family) & worship (Lev. 19:3, 23:3, Luke 4:16, Heb. 10:25).
*FRIDAY*: The Sabbath as a memorial of Creation bid us to behold the handiworks of God & give glory to Him. This day is special above all other days. It is a time to reflect on the signature of God in nature. God can be felt & experienced through nature. Israel were redeemed to keep the Sabbath of the Lord. This was reiterated by Moses & Aaron to Israel (Exod. 5:5). They were not to recall Egypt & be sad but to rejoice.

*Discussion Questions*
? Some Christians, including even some Adventists, consider theistic evolution a viable explanation of Creation. How does the Sabbath show theistic evolution and Seventh-day Adventism to be incompatible? What purpose is there in keeping the seventh day holy in commemoration of billions of years, especially when the Word of God is explicit about its being made holy after the first six days of Creation?
? What do you say to the argument that the day doesn’t matter, just as long as we have one day of rest a week? Or, on the other hand, how do we respond to the claim that Jesus is our Sabbath rest, and, therefore, there is no need to keep any day as a day of rest?
? How can keeping the Sabbath holy be a reminder of freedom and liberation? How can we avoid making it restrictive and legalistic?
? Some claim that keeping the seventh-day Sabbath is an attempt to work our way to heaven. What is the logic, however, in claiming that by resting on the seventh day, we are trying to work our way to heaven?
By A Correspondent- A Beitbridge man hanged himself after suspecting that his wife was cheating on him.
The incident occurred on Monday in Tongwe, Beitbridge District at around 3PM.
Timothy Ndou (51) under Chief Sitaudze’s area had a long-running dispute with his wife Happiness Ngulube whom he allegedly accused of cheating on him leading to domestic violence.
The couple’s marriage is said to have been rocky for the past months.
On Monday, Ndou allegedly assaulted his wife and she ran away and told Ndou’s brother who lives near their homestead.
The brother called them for counselling but Ndou left while they were being counselled.
When his wife returned home, she found him hanging in their bedroom.
The matter was reported to the police and the body was taken for postmortem.
Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena said Ndou suspected that his wife was cheating on him and that led to a misunderstanding that drove him to commit suicide.
“I can confirm that Ndou hanged himself after suspecting that his wife was cheating on him. Ndou’s brother called the couple to solve the issue and before resolving the issue Ndou left his brother’s house and went to his house where he was found hanging in their bedroom.” she said.
Insp Mangena urged members of the public to seek counselling from local leaders, pastors and police instead of committing suicide when they face such problems.
Two weeks ago, an unidentified man was found hanging on an electricity pole in a Bulawayo suburb.
Last year, a man from Filabusi committed suicide after killing his wife after suspecting that his wife was cheating.-statemedia

By A Correspondent- An Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) pastor was kidnapped by a rival faction and threatened with death if he failed to surrender church property as the wrangle to control the religious group between Amon Madawo and Cossam Chiyangwa escalates.
Odzi assembly Pastor Daniel Veru, from a faction led by Madawo, told NewsDay that he was kidnapped on August 15 after the government had allowed the reopening of churches. He has since filed a report for kidnapping at Odzi Police Station under RRB4656105.
Madawo was recently declared the legitimate AFM leader by the Supreme Court, following a similar ruling by the High Court in 2019.
“After the Supreme Court ruling, which we won the right to control the church; we went to court so that Simbarashe Chizunza from Chiyangwa’s faction return our church property, Chizunza was ordered to return the property to me,” Veru said.
“Chizunza complied and returned the property, but recently, when the government ordered that the churches should be reopened on August 15, I went to church with my wife so that we could reopen the church only to be shocked to see Chizunza and members of his faction camped at the church premises.”
He added:
“I was manhandled and kidnapped together with my wife. They held me captive for almost five hours; they told me never to set my foot at the church as they would kill me. They forcibly took away keys of the church building and took musical instruments and chairs.”

By A Correspondent- Nine (9) veterans of Zimbabwe’s liberation war were arrested on Wednesday and charged with inciting public violence after they allegedly besieged Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube’s office demanding better pensions.
The war veterans, who are members of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA), were arrested at the New Government Complex in Harare’s central business district.
The ex-combatants are Faith Chananda, Nyasha Mangena, Wonderful Kabarauta, Shorai Nyamangudo, Isso Madzivanyika, Daphne Kanoti, Mazikana Marron, Sthyine Maphosa and Jordan Mberadzina, all above 60 years of age.
They were demanding that government should raise their current monthly pension around $16 000, which they said was not enough to meet their basic needs. One of the veterans who spoke to NewsDay said:
We were not demonstrating. We were actually adhering to COVID-19 regulations while waiting for the minister to bring a response to us.
We were blocked by staff members at the Finance Ministry on several occasions from meeting the minister so that we table our grievance before him.
We were informed that the Finance Ministry had forwarded our grievance to the Public Service and the State Security ministries.
We then demanded to see the copy of the letter which was sent to the ministries and we were told to come today to collect it. That is when we were arrested.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said he had not yet received the report of the incident.

By A Correspondent- Government has moved to digitalize the Covid-19 vaccination programme in an effort to combat fraud and corruption which is reportedly marring the vaccination programme across the country.
Director of Health Informatics in the Ministry of Health and Child Care, Dr Simukai Zizhou told TellZim News that the Ministry of Health and Child Care is currently working on fully digitalizing the vaccination programme.
“The Ministry of Health and Child Care has designed a new proof of vaccination card that has a barcode as a security feature,” said Dr Zizhemu.
He also said that those who were vaccinated before the introduction of the barcode security feature can go back to their vaccination centers for card replacement.
“People who were vaccinated during the early days of the programme should revisit their vaccination centers and get their cards replaced with new cards that have security features that cannot be forged,” said Dr Zizhemu.
He also shed light on the issue of card replacement in instances when the card gets lost or stolen.
“If one loses or misplaces his or her vaccination card, they can visit their vaccination center and get a new card with all their details,” said Dr Zizhemu.
This comes at a time when a couple of health officials were arrested for engaging in underhand vaccination deals while some have been arraigned before the courts for passing out vaccination cards to unvaccinated people.

“China’s unwillingness to share data and information relevant to identifying the origins of COVID-19 is truly shameful.” – Senator Jim Risch
“…a laboratory leak origin is certainly plausible…” – Senator Rubio .
By A Correspondent | At a time when the Zim government is dismissing it all, the US Senate investigation has agreed with claims by Zimbabwe’s Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri’s damning allegation that China is hiding information on the origins of COVID-19.
In January, Muchinguri who is Zimbabwe’s COVID Taskforce Chairperson alleged to ZimEye in an interview saying, the Chinese know what they did, as she sad COVID-19 was their experiment which went wrong.
Hours before its release, the Chinese embassy in Harare yesterday was at pains complaining against the release of the investigation report saying:
“We urge the US side to bear in mind the lives and health of its own people and people around the world, stop politicization and return to the track of science-based origins study at an early date.
“We urge the US to disclose and test data of early cases at home and invite WHO experts to conduct origins research in the US so as to give the international community and the American people an explanation based on science and justice.”
The development comes as the U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement on the reportedly inconclusive intelligence assessment on the origins of COVID-19 briefed to the president earlier this week:
“China’s unwillingness to share data and information relevant to identifying the origins of COVID-19 is truly shameful. Yet, the work to identify how this virus started and spread must continue.
“As I wrote to the president last month, if the 90-day intelligence community effort does not yield definitive conclusions, the intelligence community and others in the U.S. government must continue to prioritize this inquiry. I expect the administration to provide a briefing to senators on the 90-day inquiry when we return next month so we can decide what needs to happen next.”
“Our experience with COVID-19 also requires a thorough re-examination of research collaboration with China on gain-of-function, synthetic biology, and other areas that pose dual use concerns. That is something I will continue to push alongside my Senate colleagues to ensure the United States is not funding or supporting technological and military advancements that benefit our adversaries,” Risch said.
The development comes as Zimbabwe’s Foreign Affairs Ministry in January distanced itself from Muchinguri with spokesperson, Constance Chemwayi saying Zimbabwe did not hold China responsible for the emergence and spread of Covid-19.
“Reference is made to a purported telephone conversation between the Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs, Honourable O.P.Z. Muchinguri-Kashiri and a journalist, Simba Chikanza, that is circulating on the social media platforms,” she said.
“We wish to make it clear that the sentiments expressed do not reflect the position of the Government of Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe and China enjoy excellent relations. The government does not hold the Chinese Government responsible for the emergence and spread of the coronavirus that has affected every global citizen.
“Government appreciates that China has exercised global leadership in efforts to find both the cause and a solution to the pandemic.”
Yesterday the U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, urged the Biden Administration to immediately declassify the inconclusive intelligence community report on the origins of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Rubio also called on Congress to pass his COVID Act of 2021, which would authorize sanctions and other restrictions if the CCP fails to allow for a credible and comprehensive investigation into the origins of COVID-19 at laboratories in Wuhan that studied coronaviruses.
“The American people deserve to know what our government does and does not know about the origins of COVID-19,” Rubio said. “The Biden Administration needs to immediately transmit the classified report to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and provide a declassified version for the American people.”
“There is now a considerable body of circumstantial evidence, both the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) cover up of the initial outbreak as well as unusual molecular features of the virus itself, to suggest that a laboratory leak origin is certainly plausible, if not even likely,” Rubio continued.
“Beijing blocked a forensic investigation into the origin of COVID-19, silenced whistleblowers, forced doctors and researchers to destroy early virus samples, and imposed political screening of publications to ensure that no research findings could emerge from China to shed light on the origin.”
“The World Health Organization (WHO) is calling on Beijing to allow the WHO to investigate the labs in Wuhan, and the United States must do everything in its power to ensure we get those answers,” Rubio concluded.
Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema has released a series of pictures which show that his meeting with Emmerson Mnangagwa after his inauguration, was one of many others. By A Correspondent- The minister who failed to boldly stand out for abused minors given into marriage, was pounced on by burglars.
Three suspected burglars have since been arrested for breaking into Minister Nyoni’s house in Chisipite.
The thieves got away with household items worth US$10 500.
On Wednesday, the three, Justin Nyamakanga Dodzo, Godfrey Magadu and Tafadzwa Mupfuurira appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court facing four counts of unlawful entry.
They were not asked to plead to the charges when they appeared before magistrate Judith Taruvinga who remanded them in custody today to continue their bail application.
Through the investigating officer, the State opposed the granting of bail to the trio, saying they were flight risks and also likely to commit similar offences.
Lancelot Mutsokoti from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) told the court that on 21 July this year, Minister Nyoni left Clinton Nkala, who is a caretaker and Steady Chikwaya from the police protection unit, manning her house.
The next day, Nkala, locked the doors and left Chikwaya on guard.
On 23 July, at around 5.45 am, Nkala was awakened by Chikwaya who wanted to know why he had left the doors open during the night.
Nkala is said to have told Chikwaya that he had locked the doors when he retired to bed.
They conducted a check around the house and noticed that the television set was missing and further checks revealed that various household items had been stolen.
Minister Nyoni’s son, Dumisani, reported the matter to the police.
The three men were arrested after they committed several other burglaries in Harare, including in Vainona on 9 August and Chisipite on 16 August.
One Godfrey Chamunoda was spotted at Chisipite Shopping Centre riding a bicycle that had been stolen from Joseph Mudehanha who confronted him. Chamunoda then told Mudehanha that he had bought the bicycle from Magadu.
Magadu then led police to Glen Norah B in Harare where Dodzo and Mupfuurira were arrested at their residences.
By A Correspondent- Three banks in Chiredzi have reportedly refused to open bank accounts for Zimbabwe’s main opposition party, the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa.
The bank account is for the party’s Chiredzi West District and the funds deposited therein were going to be used to support developmental projects in the constituency.
The party’s Chiredzi West spokesperson, Tobias Muzamani told Masvingo Mirror that they tried to open a bank account with CBZ, but their efforts were in vain.
He said they were even advised to circumvent the party and open an account as a co-operative in some cases.
Muzamani suspected that the banks were afraid of reprisals from the ruling Zanu PF.
“We made applications to more than three banks and they all showed a lot of reluctance to open an account in the name of the MDC A. We feel strongly that they are afraid of reprisals from Zanu PF”.
Masvingo Mirror reported they could not reach CBZ public relations manager, Moliyn Musemburi for a comment.

By A Correspondent| Former Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBCTV) News Anchor Lee Ann Bernard was yesterday viciously horned out by the late President Robert Mugabe’s son Bellarmine Chatunga over the latter’s post where he differed with musician Mudiwahood’s statement that ‘being broke is a mindset’.
Chatunga proved the full force of his name, a bull that horns out everything in its way, when he argued that Bernard was altogether wrong to insult men who are fighting to earn a living.
Posting on Twitter, Chatunga lashed at people who mock those trying to make ends meet saying some have made it in life due to connections while some have tried everything possible but still failed.
Chatanga said he had in the past come across people fighting hard to make things work without success.

The debate was ignited by Hip Hop musician Mudiwahood who in his book ‘Shut Up And Make Money’ said poverty was a choice people make.

On Monday this week, Ndou allegedly assaulted his wife and she ran away and told Ndou’s brother who lives near there homestead. The brother called them for counselling but Ndou left while they were being counselled. When his wife returned home, she found him hanging in their bedroom.
The matter was reported to the police and the body was taken for post mortem. Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena confirmed the incident. She said Ndou suspected that his wife was cheating on him and that led to a misunderstanding that drove Ndou to commit suicide.
“I can confirm that Ndou hanged himself after a dispute that he had with his wife. Ndou’s brother called the couple to solve the issue and before resolving it, Ndou left his brother’s house and went to his house where he was found hanging in their bedroom.” she said.

Bafana Bafana forward Percy Tau will be available for the game against Zimbabwe in the World Cup qualifiers next month.
The forward was included in the final 23-man squad for the trip to Harare on 3 September but his availability was cast into doubt following the English Premier League’s announcement that players from red-listed countries will not be released for international duty in the September window.
Both Zimbabwe and South Africa are on the list that contains the riskiest countries that have the potential to reimport the virus into the UK.
But it has now been revealed that Tau will not be affected by this move as he is no longer with English top-flight club Brighton and Hove.
Speaking on the Ultimate Sports Show on Metro FM, South Africa national team coach Hugo Broos said:
“We sent an invitation to Brighton (requesting Tau’s release for international duty) and thirty minutes later, we had a response from them saying he is no longer their player.
“We looked for information and we know, at the moment, he is in Egypt negotiating the final details of his transfer.”
Tau will join Al Ahly in the coming days to reunite with coach Pitso Mosimane.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa midfielder Marvelous Nakamba will not form part of the Warriors squad due to the EPL’s stunt.
Other players that could be affected by this situation include Wigan Athletic captain Tendayi Darikwa, Bournemouth fullback Jordan Zemura, Luton Town striker Admiral Muskwe and Plymouth Argyle defender Brendan Galloway.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe
By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe’s senior doctors on Wednesday questioned the government’s latest Covid-19 lockdown extension, calling it “unscientific” in the face of declining infections and hospitalisations.
Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa announced Tuesday that the alert level 4 lockdown had been extended by another 14 days – guaranteeing that schools will remain closed at least until September 7, more than two months after they were due to open.
Mutsvangwa said the decision was “necessitated by the realisation that although there has been a notable decrease in the number of Covid-19 infections and deaths, more efforts are required to contain the third wave of the pandemic.”
“We cannot afford to let our guard down until we are all safe. Members of the public are therefore urged to take this opportunity to get vaccinated. It is also important that we continue to wear our masks, social distance and maintain all other preventive measures so that we overcome this pandemic as a nation,” she said.
The Zimbabwe Senior Hospital Doctors Association, in a short statement on Wednesday, criticised the latest extension.
The doctors said: “Data from the ministry of health clearly shows Covid-19 infections well below resurgence threshold. Most Covid hospitals countrywide have significantly reduced admissions. Lockdown has achieved its aims. If we are basing decisions on stats and science, what’s the justification for the extension?”
On Tuesday, Zimbabwe reported 319 new Covid-19 infections and 27 deaths. There were 402 people in hospital with the virus while the number of people who have taken at least one dose of a vaccine topped 2,380,000.
The government has been accused of using the Covid-19 lockdown to narrow the democratic space for opposition parties after imposing a ban on campaign rallies, protests and by-elections during the lockdown.
The lockdown has also hit businesses, with opening hours restricted between 8AM and 3.30PM. Bars remain closed, sporting events are banned and churches have only just been allowed to re-open but only for the fully vaccinated. A dusk to dawn curfew is also being enforced by the police.

Press Statement:
Launch of Voter Registration Program for Students.
August 25th, 2021
Pursuant to the #OneMillionCampaign volunteers program previously launched by our Youth
Assembly, the MDC Alliance Students’ Council today launches the #StudentsForChangeZW
campaign.
This initiative serves to mobilize students in all tertiary institutions within the
parameters of the borders of our country to register to vote.
Students are the torchbearers of every national democratic agenda; to achieve and even surpass
the one million first time voters’ target, we have seen it worth to put students at the forefront
of this democratic exercise of registering to vote. Through this campaign running under the
harsh tag #StudentsForChangeZW, the MDC Alliance Students’ Council plans to register to
vote more than 100 000 students across the nation. The campaign will be in motion from
September 2021 when students begin their new semester until July 2023, when the nation will
once again go to the polls.
Other than volunteers for mobilizing students to register to vote, we also seek volunteers to
provide transportation to ferry students from their institutions to the Zimbabwe Electoral
Commission District Offices where they will register to vote.
Transportation will also be needed to take them back to their institutions after registration. We also welcome those who would like to provide voter and civic education, help us source regalia and even lunch for
students during this exercise.

Yours Comradely

I was 18 when I moved from Harare Hospital Football Club to join Dynamos in 1981. By that time Mudhara George as we called him was very close to retirement.
His replacements had already been recruited, the late Steve Kwashi and to a great extent July “Jujuju” Sharara.
The two had big shoes to fill. They tried their best but to be honest there was only one George Shaya. The man was special, irreplaceable so to speak. Noone could play like him.
I was privileged to train and play with the great man briefly in 1981. He was a man of few words. When we travelled to Kadoma to play Rio Tinto, I sat next to him.
“Hallo sonny!” is all he said before he pulled out his novel and started reading. All the way to Kadoma he said nothing else.
At Kadoma Ranch hotel, again we shared the same room. “Good night sonny!” he said tucking himself in his bed. His novel next to him. He loved reading!
I can safely say we played together for not more than 4 matches. I arrived as he departed but what an honour to have been in the same team with him.
He tried his hand at coaching but I think the level that he expected of his players was too high. He expected them to be as good as he was and to make better decisions on the pitch.
I remember one day at training, one player dribbled past everyone but his cross hit the side netting. Mudhara George shook his head in frustration.. “Why… You have done all the good work and you do that.. Why?” He just could not understand the poor decisions that some players made.
Because he himself was the Mastermind, he expected everyone to be just as smart. But the levels of talent were different. Noone could reach his level. So he soon gave up coaching.
Zimbabwe Football has lost an icon, a man who deserves to be honoured with even a statue, a football stand named after or even a street name.
Under normal circumstances, this should have happened a long time ago but it did not. It is sad!
I want to extend my gratitude to those who helped the icon when his health deteriorated. Dairiboard provided a vehicle for him and other forms of support, others chipped in with groceries. This should be applauded.
Shaya is a National Treasure and his legacy should be protected.
Rest in peace Mudhara George, The Mastermind!!
Blessings to you..

By A Correspondent- Sandra Ndebele is a female Zimbabwean musician, director, actress, choreographer and dancer. She has made a name for herself in Zimbabwe as a versatile performer, having performed in India, Dubai, China, United Kingdom, Russia, Canada and Japan.[1].She is currently an ambassador for Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe, National Blood Service Zimbabwe, Mpilo Central Hospital and Suzuki. In 2018 Sandra rebranded herself as well as her music. She now dons a more modern look and has a high energy dance sound
She born on January 3, 1982 in Bulawayo and was raised in Tshabalala Township before her family moved to Nkulumane Township. She did her secondary education at Founders High School and is married to Nkanyiso Mbusi Sibindi and the couple has two children.
She did her secondary education at Founders High School in Bulawayo. In 2016 she sat for O’ Level Mathematics exams after doing revision lessons at Foundation College in Bulawayo. She said she was writing Mathematics exams as she wants to start teaching music. But for her to be able to do so, she needs to enrol at the Hillside Teachers College for a diploma in education majoring in music, of which Mathematics is a prerequisite. She also spent some time learning how to play the guitar at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo where Kwabatsha, through the Key Music project, were running a musical school.[2]
Sandra started singing in church where she was an active member of the youth choir. While at Founders High School, she won first prize in the National Association of Secondary School Heads (NASH) public-speaking competition after she presented the speech Black and Proud, by famed Zimbabwean poet, Albert Nyathi. She was later incorporated into a lead role performing with Mpopoma High School performing theatre, music and dance. This troupe was the founding of Iyasa which toured Zimbabwe, Austria and the Czech Republic.
She later embarked on a solo career. She released her 10-track debut solo album, “Tshaya Tshaya”, in February 2003. In the same year of the release, she was nominated in three categories in the inaugural Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMA) which was held at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) in December 2003. Sandra’s arrival on the scene was emphatic to the extent of being nominated in the same category with Alick Macheso and the late Oliver Mtukudzi for the Best Live Act award at Zimbabwe Music Awards. She was nominated in the Most Promising Artiste, Best Female and Best Urban Grooves (Female) Award categories.
In 2007 she donated a Baumanomet machine to Princess Margaret Rose Clinic in Bulawayo. The machine is used to check blood pressure. At the time of the donation, the clinic had gone without a Baumanomet machine for months. Her passion for assisting children with education saw her in 2004 holding a fundraising show at SOS Hermann Gmeiner Primary School in Bulawayo. SOS School Orchestra, the school’s marimba band, curtain raised for her, during the show that was held to fund raise for library books. In 2005 she performed at a number of primary schools in the country to assist them in raising funds. In Bulawayo she performed at schools which include Tategulu in Cowdray Park, Robert Tredgold in Makokoba, Mahlabezulu in Tshabalala and Barham Green Primary School. In Gwerushe performed at Munga Primary School in Ascot, Riverside Primary Schoo in Athlone and Matinunhura in Mkoba.
She also held shows to fundraise for Midlands State University. The shows were to raise funds for the building of a multipurpose hall, boosting the university library and improving gender awareness programmes. In 2006 she opened a culture centre, Umuzi Wakwethu and a restaurant specializing in traditional foods at Amakhosi Township Square Cultural Centre.[1]
Sandie, as she is popularly known in show business, was set to feature as Siphetho in Cont Mhlanga‘s drama called The Nyaminyami. She plays the part of a wife of a farm manager, played by Thulani Mbambo. Mhlanga said he was surprised and impressed by the mother of two’s performances during the auditions.[3]
Sandra provides a wide range of traditional Ndebele mastery in the art of beadwork. Traditional beaded garments include Necklaces, bracelets, imisisi (traditional skirts) and even bras are available in the form of beads. She is also an aspiring fashion guru, bringing in the latest fashion trends for resale in Zimbabwe.[6]
In 2011, Sandra’s star-studded wedding held at the Nesbitt Castle was illuminated by South African diva Nani Ntengo, who together with Platform One had the crowd up on its feet and dancing for the “makhoti”. She wedded Nkanyiso Mbusi Sibindi, a lawyer based in the United Kingdom. Sources say the two met in 2000 when Ndebele was still a rookie trying to make a name for herself. A few years later Sibindi went to live and work in the United Kingdom. Those who know Sibindi said he was a very private person who kept to himself and a man of sober habits. The couple had a two-year-old son named Nkanyiso Junior by the time of the wedding and seemed their family was already expanding with baby number two on the way — one could not ignore the bulge on Sandra’s wedding gown.
Entertainment was provided by the group that gave Sandra a name — Iyasa — and the director of Iyasa was also given a platform to tell the guests how he got to know Sandra and her exploits in the arts. There was an interesting song done by an SDA acapella group that spoke of the bride being theirs and that they did not want to see her at nightspots. Does this mean the end of Sandra’s music career? The likes of Sobuza Gula-Ndebele, Jeys Marabini, Lorraine Tsoanele Maphala, Sibusisiwe Dube, Sipho Mazibuko, Sarah Mpofu – Sibandaand a lot more social butterflies made up part of the guest list.[7]
It was her unique style of dancing that saw her rise to stardom and was arguably one of the best artistes in the country. However, her dance style soon earned her all sorts of names and was described as loose and likened her act to a sign of moral decadence.

By A Correspondent- Three suspected burglars have been arrested for breaking into Women’s Affairs Minister Sithembiso Nyoni’s house in Chisipite.

Charamba, early this year, posted on Twitter a statement labelling UPND leader and now Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema a sellout.
Mnangagwa’s spokesperson repeated the same utterances this week despite Hichilema winning the Zambia elections.
Hichilema’s Party spokesperson Joseph Kalimbwe told NewsDay that it was wrong for Charamba to attack his boss when there was no previous relationship with the new Zambian leader.
“In my own personal view, it is catastrophic. (The comments) cannot be taken lightly. What is worrisome is that he is using a fake name because he cannot come out openly as a spokesperson of a head of State to be saying such shameless statements,” he angrily said.

Victims of abduction and torture at the hands of alleged state security agents says they will not allow their past experiences to stand in their way of fighting for democracy in Zimbabwe
Opposition activists Joana Mamombe, Cecelia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova were abducted and tortured by suspected state security agents while coming from a demonstration organised by their party youth wing.
They were taken to a secret location where they were tortured and later dumped near Bindura.
“They intend to silence us to stop mobilizing the youths to participate in politics. We will not be stopped by that. We are going to continue speaking truth to power,” Mamombe said.
Despite glaring evidence of the hand of the state, government accused a third force of engineering the abductions to soil the image of Zimbabwe on the international arena.
Mamombe, who is the Harare West legislator said the harassment and torture were meant to stop them from what defending the rights of Zimbabweans.
“Jestina [Mukoko, director for Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP)], Tabitha [Khumalo, MDC Alliance Bulawayo East legislator] Cecelia Chimbiri, Netsai Marova, Maureen Kademaunga [MDC Alliance national executive member], are among thousands of women victims who have suffered as a result of their political association in Zimbabwe.”
Popular comedienne Samantha Kureya was also abducted in the middle of the night and forced to drink her own urine among other inhuman actions she was subjected to by her abductors.
Kureya said the government must be held accountable and her duty is to use political satire to interrogate corruption, abuse of power by political figures.
“I am not scared at all. They can do whatever they want but I am not going to stop satire in our acting,” said Kureya.
Mnangagwa’s government and Zanu PF are afraid of losing power and want to use force and cohesion to intimidate anyone that doesn’t support them said another activist Maureen Kademaunga.
“My cousin sister Tapiwa Munetsi was also victimized only because we are relatives. That’s desperation. A friend of mine who Eunice Venge who was victimized because she is a friend of mine. So this government is capable of doing anything,” Kademaunga said.
While there are witnesses who saw some of these women being abducted, the state has charged them with faking their abductions.
