Sex Workers Call For Legalising Of Pregnancy Termination

Terrence Mawawa

Sex workers in Masvingo are appealing to the government to legalise the termination of unwanted pregnancies.

Sex workers in the ancient city told a local community radio station yesterday they were being forced by their clients to indulge in unprotected sex resulting in unwanted pregnancies.

The sex workers urged the government to legalise abortion to avoid unwanted pregnancies.

“Whether abortion has been legalised or not, many sex workers are terminating unwanted pregnancies. So we appeal to the government to lift the blanket ban on abortion,” said one sex worker.

“We are being forced to have unprotected sex with our clients and this leads to unwanted pregnancies,” said another sex worker.

Tension Escalates As MDC Supporters Block Former Minister’s Candidature

Terrence Mawawa

There was tension in Manicaland Province at the weekend as hundreds of MDC supporters protested at the alleged imposition of former Energy and Power Development Deputy Minister Munacho Mutezo as a candidate for Chimanimani West Constituency.

On Saturday, MDC supporters in Chimanimani West gathered at Nyanyadzi Business Centre claiming Mutezo had been imposed as the MDC Alliance Parliamentary candidate.

Mutezo, of ZimPF, is contesting the election on an MDC Alliance ticket.

MDC members want local businessman Canaan Matiashe to represent them.

Matiashe yesterday said: “The voice of the people is the voice of the God and I follow what people are saying and I can’t say no to the people.”

Mutezo said the protesters were not genuine and had been sponsored by Zanu PF.

MDC Manicaland Provincial spokesperson Trevor Saruwaka said: “I am not aware of that. I am sure there will be one candidate representing the party. If other individuals decide to come as independents, it’s their choice.”

MDC-T Losses Court Case 2 Days To Nomination Court

Ruling against the MDC-T
Case against the MDC-T

By Paul Nyathi|Opposition MDCT Alliance has lost a tricky case at the courts over the imposition of a parliamentary candidate.

Blessing Nhende a member of the party youth wing took the party to court for imposing a candidate in a Ward previously declare as reserved for youths in Mabvuku.

The MDCT had imposed Barnabas Ndira who is over the age of thirty five being the cut off age for the youth to be candidate for ward 21 in Mabvuku after previously declaring it reserved for the youth.

The court ruled that the MDC-T should hold a primary election in the ward urgently before the 14th of June to get a youth candidate for the ward.

The ruling is likely to cause a mayhem in the party where several similar concerns were raised.

ZANU PF Province Rejects Imposed Losing Minister

Abednico Ncube

By Paul Nyathi|The ZANU PF Matabeleland South Provincial Coordinating Committee has outright rejected Minister of State for the Province Abednico Ncube contest as the party candidate for Gwanda South.

The PCC met in Gwanda on Monday and rejected a list sent to the province by the party commissariate with names of candidates who lost primary elections being squeezed in as candidates.

Ncube lost the primary elections to ZBC staff member Ompile Marupi in the primary elections but was brought back to contest the seat by the national commissariat who disqualified Marupi with no explaination given.

Addressing the PCC members, Zanu PF provincial chairman Rabelani Choene distanced himself from the list produced by the national commissariat saying it had a number of irregularities.

He said some losing candidates had been clandestinely allocated posts in districts where they do not come from, while in some cases losing candidates had been declared winners.

“Please note that I have nothing to do with this list, this document came from the national commissariat. If you have any concerns do not direct them at me but to Harare,” said Choene.

PCC members immediately rejected the document and drafted the final list of winners for the national assembly, women’s quarter, senate and provincial council candidates.

“Chairman, we will not accept anything that is not endorsed by this PCC, let us come up with our final list that we will send to Harare. We say no to imposition of candidates,” they said.

Speaking soon after emerging from a closed door meeting with the provincial leadership, Vice President Mohadi commended the province for ensuring transparency and fairness prevails, saying the focus should now be on winning the elections.

He reminded party cadres that there was no winner or loser in the intra-party polls, adding if there are any concerns by any individual they should be raised after the elections.

“The PCC is the authentic body so they have the right to come out with the finalist of their candidates. Those who are grumbling, there is nothing to grumble about, we are Zanu PF, we are not voting for individuals but the party. So your little battles are over,” he said.

Other changes that were made to the previous list saw Rabelani Choene becoming the Beitbridge senatorial candidate instead of Tambudzani Mohadi.

Alma Mkwebu will no longer be the senate candidate for Gwanda after Rennie Kibi was declared the winner.

Two Year Old Abducted, Killed In Suspected Election Violence

By Own Correspondent| A two year old boy was reportedly abducted and brutally killed by suspected Zanu PF activists at the weekend after his father Rambai Lumbe defected to the opposition National People’s Party (NPP) where he is Mazowe North parliamentary candidate.

Lumbe told mourners gathered at his Sunridge Farm in Glendale yesterday, that he was finding it difficult to stomach the death of his son, Professor, whose heavily bruised body was recovered about two kilometres from the family home on Sunday.

The incident, which has left residents of Mazowe north shocked has also raised fears of a repeat of the bloody 2008 elections which saw over 300 opposition MDC-T supporters killed and thousands others internally displaced by suspected State security agents and Zanu PF militia.

Lumbe, reportedly defected from Zanu PF in 2014 to join former Vice-President Joice Mujuru’s ZimPF and later NPP where he is Mashonaland Central provincial secretary.

He said prior to the incident, several ruling party activists had visited his home and warned him to leave opposition politics or risk losing his family.

“My son, Professor went missing on Saturday afternoon, but was only found dead by some kids harvesting soya beans on Sunday.

This came as no surprise considering that we are living in a politically-charged environment where I receive a number of threats on my family,” Lumbe said.

“There are a number of cases where Zanu PF activists came and threatened me saying I was not a member of Zanu PF anymore, so I didn’t deserve to stay on the land that I was given by Zanu PF. I was told clearly that my involvement in opposition politics endangers my family.

I started receiving threats in 2014 when I joined the then ZimPF (Mujuru’s first opposition party). At one point, Zanu PF youths came to my plot and tried partitioning it amongst themselves claiming since I was in opposition politics, I was supposed to leave. Their warning was straight-forward that I was putting my family in danger and I was supposed to make a choice.”

In an interview with a local publication, Lumbe, said he would not quit politics but would continue fighting Zanu PF.

Lumbe’s wife, Nomatter Midzi who constantly broke down during the interview, said it was unfortunate that her son died under unclear circumstances although she suspects that their political rivals who always subjected them to all sorts of intimidation were responsible.

“I am convinced that my son was murdered because for some time, Zanu PF people were telling us that my husband’s political activism will endanger my family at some point. They failed to destroy him and then chose to attack my son aged two years, seven months,” she said.

Contacted for comment, Zanu PF Mashonaland provincial chairman Kazembe Kazembe dismissed the allegations as “false”.

“I don’t know about that. I even don’t know NPP candidates. To be honest, I have never heard about that kind of intimidation. People must appreciate the message from our President and all of us we don’t condone violence at all. However, I have no idea of such an incident,” Kazembe said.

NPP national standing committee member and People’s Rainbow Coalition provincial elections director Julius Musevenzi condemned the intimidation and physical violence against the opposition by suspected ruling party activists.

“Whilst ED and Zanu PF are talking about free and fair elections, for us this has just become a talk of the day and artificial. The reality is that people on the ground particularly in the farming community of newly resettled areas suffer a lot of intimidation from Zanu PF. This means any former Zanu PF member who joins another party becomes an enemy,” Musevenzi said.

“These people are a threat to Zanu PF and they have a huge following. As PRC, we do condemn such kind of violence.”

Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Petros Masikati said although police were investigating a case of suspected murder, he had no knowledge of the involvement of any political party.

Human Rights Watch Southern Africa director Dewa Mavhinga said their research has established widespread intimidation, harassment, and threats of violence across the country.

“Incidents of intra-party political violence characterised primary elections, but more recently incidents of political violence between different political parties have been on the rise as elections date approaches,” Mavhinga said.

“We call upon the police to act swiftly to investigate all cases of political violence and arrest perpetrators without fear or favour. The police must demonstrate through decisive action that there is zero tolerance to political violence to enable Zimbabweans to vote freely on July 30.

“Prompt and thorough police investigations should include the Mazowe case of the NPP candidate who lost a child in unclear circumstances.”

Zanu PF has a long history of political violence and voter intimidation. In the run-up to the 2013 harmonised elections, MDC-T parliamentary candidate for Headlands, Shepherd Maisiri lost his 12-year-old son, Christpowers, under almost similar circumstances.

Christpowers was allegedly burnt to ashes when a house he was sleeping in was petrol-bombed by suspected Zanu PF supporters. Christpowers and his three brothers were sleeping in the house when disaster struck. The brothers escaped with minor burns.

Prior to the incident, Zanu PF activists had allegedly threatened to “deal” with Maisiri for causing the arrest of ruling party local militia leader Lovemore Manenji.

Manenji was in 2009 sentenced to a 52-year jail term for unleashing a reign of terror against opposition supporters in the run-up to the 2008 general elections.
In 2008, hundreds of opposition MDC-T supporters were killed while thousands were internally displaced, particularly in the bloody presidential run-off campaign.

Zanu PF supporters, government officials, war veterans and State security agents conducted brutal daily “re-education” meetings in which they beat up and tortured suspected MDC-T supporters to force them to denounce the opposition party and swear allegiance to Zanu PF at their bases of operations established in all the provinces around the country.

There was a spate of abductions and killings of known MDC-T activists and petrol bombing of their homes and offices by suspected agents of the State, Zanu PF supporters and war veterans.

During that period, MDC-T youth secretary for security Tonderai Ndira was abducted from his home in Harare by suspected security agents and his mutilated body was found a week later.

MDC-T treasurer in Mashonaland East Shepherd Jani was also abducted in Murehwa by four men and his mutilated body was found two days later as cases of political violence escalated around the country.-Newsday.

Activist Reports CIO Operative For Cellphone Theft

MBUSO Fuzwayo, secretary-general of civil rights group Ibhetshu LikaZulu, has filed robbery charges against a suspected Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) operative who allegedly confiscated his mobile phone on Saturday after finding the activists constructing a memorial plaque at a Gukurahundi mass grave at Bhalagwe, Kezi district.

Fuzwayo yesterday told Southern Eye that the incident occurred while they were erecting a memorial plaque at the mass grave site, together with villagers from Kezi.

He said four CIO operatives arrived in a white Nissan twin cab at the site and allegedly identified themselves as police officers.

“I introduced myself to them and asked them who were they since I had told them who I am. They told us that they were police officers. They started taking pictures of us at work and I also took their pictures as well,” Fuzwayo said.

“That is when an argument arose over why I was taking their pictures and I also asked why they were also taking pictures of us. They then took my mobile phone, forced us to throw away the mortar we were using, before they drove away. They later came back in the company of three uniformed police officers and two others in civilian clothes.”

Fuzwayo said the CIO operatives accused him of constructing the plaque without engaging local traditional leaders.

He said the operatives ordered them to stop the programme.

“I reported the matter to the police in Kezi on Saturday under case number 1606/2018 – RRB 3102163. That is when I was given back my mobile phone,” Fuzwayo, who claimed that he reported the matter at Kezi Police Station in the company of his lawyer, Nqobani Sithole, said.

Sithole said they were now waiting for the police to advise them on the court date.

“Fuzwayo approached us saying he was robbed of his mobile phone by the police and the CIOs and we went to Kezi to recover the phone,” Sithole said.

“When we arrived there the police officers denied the accusations and it only emerged that the person who took the mobile phone was a CIO operative only identified as Kudakwashe. So we filed robbery charges against him. We are waiting for the police to advise us on the court date. However, the police gave us the phone.”

ZANU PF Fingered In Murder Of 2 Year Old Toddler

THE July 30 election campaign trail has claimed the life of a two-year-old who was reportedly abducted and brutally killed by suspected Zanu PF activists at the weekend after his father Rambai Lumbe defected to the opposition National People’s Party (NPP) where he is Mazowe North parliamentary candidate, NewsDay has learnt.

Addressing mourners at his Sunridge Farm in Glendale yesterday, the distraught Lumbe, said he was finding it difficult to stomach the death of his son, Professor, whose heavily bruised body was recovered about two kilometres from the family home on Sunday.

She added: “I am convinced it’s Zanu PF people because in many cases, since we stay close to the road, they would pass through shouting that if my husband continues with opposition politics, then they will not spare us.”

She, however, said it was unfortunate that political differences would get to this level.

Like her husband, Nomatter said everyone should be allowed to express their political views without any form of intimidation.

Mourners gathered at the funeral said it was deplorable that people could attack each other over political differences. They said since the national political leadership, including President Emmerson Mnangagwa were preaching the gospel of peace, it was only prudent to follow his wise counsel.

Contacted for comment, Zanu PF Mashonaland provincial chairman Kazembe Kazembe dismissed the allegations as “false”.

BUT WHY? – Court Inspects Kasukuwere’s Mansion For Bullets

Several bullet holes are visible which Kasukuwere claims were from rounds fired at his home, the state media reported.

Kasukuwere applied for discharge at the close of the state case on the basis that he used an undesignated port of exist fearing for his life, hence he qualified to have been given refugee status.

Frustrated MDC-T Chairman Resigns

MDC-T Masvingo Chairman James Gumbi

By Paul Nyathi|MDC-T Masvingo provincial chairperson James Gumbi has resigned from his position, very reliable sources within the party in Masvingo have told ZimEye.com.

Gumbi is reported to have submitted his resignation letter to the party provincial Secretary on Tuesday morning after he saw his efforts to impose his own choice of candidates in the province go up in smoke.

Earlier this year Gumbi had vowed that he was going to have the final say on who was going to be the candidates for the opposition paying no regard to the MDC Alliance coalition agreements.

Gumbi, who claimed that he influenced the late MDC-T founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai to appoint Nelson Chamisa and Elias Mudzuri as vice presidents in 2016, always indicated that there was no one within the party and Alliance qualified enough to tell him what to do when it comes to the selection of candidates to represent the party in the province in the upcoming elections.

Addressing aspiring MPs and councillors at party provincial offices in Rhodene in March Gumbi said the buck stopped with him. His antics took a drastic direction when he refused to present the MDC Alliance candidate for Chivi North to the MDC-T Vice President Mudzuri last week claiming that the candidate was not favoured in the electorate.

“I have the final say; I’m the one who put the final signature and no one even from national can tell me what to do,” Gumbi was quoted telling the MDC Alliance structures.

The sources indicated that Gumbi seemed to have this courage from the claims he made that he footed the late Tsvangirai’s medical bills as well as influencing the appointment of Chamisa and Mudzuri as VPs.

Gumbi’s moves threatened to shake the grass root support base of the party, leading to loyal party members turning against him in numbers resulting in his resignation from the chairman’s position in frustration.

ZimEye.com efforts to get a comment on the resignation from the MDC-T Secretary General Douglas Mwonzora were not successful at the time of writing though party sources in Masvingo insisted that Gumbi had resigned. Gumbi could also not be reached on his mobile phone which was continuously unreachable.

ZEC Turns The Heat On ZBC Over Partisan Coverage

By Own Correspondent| The national broadcaster (ZBC) is reportedly under fire from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) over partisan coverage of political parties, a development which could have led to the broadcaster covering the MDC Alliance manifesto launch last week.

According to communication glimpsed by ZimEye circulated by one of the national broadcaster’s top executives in programming, bureau chiefs are reportedly under fire for failing to adequately cover opposition parties rallies “adequately as the country heads towards the watershed polls slated for July 30.

Below is the message which was sent to ZBC bureau chiefs in all the country’s 10 provinces.

Bureau Chiefs I am deeply concerned with the manner in which diaries of political parties are going uncovered in your areas. After the proclamation, we HAVE to cover all political parties especially the Presidential rallies. I am not going to tolerate a situation where ZBC is accused of not creating a level field under my watch. Can ALL star rallies of presidential candidates be covered and the stories come in same day as we do for President ED Mnangagwa. It is a LEGAL requirement. I can’t be explaining to ZEC why a rally was not covered. Please.

Mnangagwa Was Never A Crocodile Gang Member, He Was Only Inspired By Them, Says Chando

“Emmerson Mnangagwa was not part of the famous crocodile gang. He was inspired by them but never was never a member.” – Jonathan Chando.

The below is a write up with correlates with that of the famous historian Terrence. O Ranger that Mnangagwa was nowhere near the famous five.

The Crocodile Gang comprised five-members and was formed in 1964 in Zambia under the leadership of William Ndangana.  It staged acts of sabotage under the banner of the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) party. The gang is said to have paved way for the birth of the Second Chimurenga war as it was assigned to conduct acts of sabotage meant to distract and destabilise the Ian Smith led government. It operated in the eastern part of the country, mainly in Mutare, particularly in Nyanyadzi and Chimanimani. It collapsed after the 4th July killing of Pieter Johannes Andries Oberholzer.

Election Monitors Question ZEC On Ballot Paper Printing

By Paul Nyathi|The Zimbabwe Election Support Network an electoral process watchdog has questioned the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, ZEC’s, silence on the printing of the ballot papers in its election roadmap released last week.

ZESN released the following statement in reaction to the roadmap published by the commission last week.

ZESN STATEMENT ON THE 2018 ELECTION ROADMAP RELEASED BY ZEC

The Zimbabwe Election Support Network (ZESN) notes the 2018 Harmonized elections roadmap released this week by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) which details the various processes the Commission will undertake. The Network has noted that the roadmap is silent about the process of designing and printing of the ballot papers.

Section 52A (a) of the Electoral Act states that ZEC should without delay provide information to all political parties, candidates and observers on where and by whom the ballot papers for the election are being printed. ZESN appreciates information on the dates for the publication of the number of ballot papers printed which complies with Section 52A(b) and urges the ZEC to also avail information on who will print the ballot papers and the location of the printers.

In addition, it is vital for ZEC to ensure that the voters’ roll is availed to all stakeholders in reasonable time to allow, for instance, electoral contestants to verify if the people who support their nomination are in the voters’ roll, as required by law.

ZESN reiterates its calls for the Electoral Commission to fully adhere to the Electoral Act, the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance, the SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections and international principles of election management which are independence, impartiality, integrity, transparency, efficiency, professionalism and service-mindedness.

ZESN remains committed to the promotion of democratic elections in Zimbabwe.

Mugabe Escapes Parliamentary Probe On Missing US$15 Billion Diamonds

Robert Mugabe

By Own Correspondent| Former President Robert Mugabe has escaped parliamentary probe on the missing US $15 billion diamond revenue after he was recused from the oral evidence hearing by the Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Mudenda, ZimEye has learnt.

According to a report by the Mines and Energy Parliamentary Portfolio Committee, Mugabe would not be required to present himself before parliament despite being summoned twice.

Chairperson of the Mines and Energy Committee Temba Mliswa, is on record indicating that the former President was one of the key figures to give oral evidence to parliament in order to establish whether or not the country lost US $15 billion diamond revenue.

“We will leave no stone unturned and if this means that the former president will have to come, then we will summon him” Mliswa is on record saying.

However, attempts to have Mugabe before parliament were futile as the former first citizen simply did not present himself to parliament.

Mliswa told journalists after Mugabe did not present himself before parliament that the Mines and Energy Committee would write to him again changing the time when he was expected to appear.

“We had requested that he come at 9 am and maybe he has failed to come because of his age…We are therefore writing to him again this time requesting that he comes at 2pm,” said Mliswa.

He said the committee was also open and welcomed the idea of conducting the oral evidence hearing session at Mugabe’s residence as a means of accommodating his personal needs since he was old.

“Remember the former president used to hold cabinet meetings at 2 pm and maybe because of his age, 9 am was too early for him,” said Mliswa.

He confirmed to journalists that despite being served with the summons to appear before parliament, Mugabe had not responded.

“This is not a witch hunting exercise but we are just fulfilling our oversight role where we hope that at the end of it, we will be able to come up with befitting recommendations that take the country forward and prevent any mineral lickages in the future,” said Mliswa.

According to the Mines and Energy Portfolio Committee report, Mugabe will no longer be expected to appear before the committee to provide answers regarding the missing diamond revenue.

Kasukuwere Not A Border Jumper But Refugee

Saviour Kasukuwere

By Paul Nyathi|Former cabinet minister Saviour Kasukuwere has appeared in court on charges of flouting the country’ immigration laws.

The former ZANU PF commissar pleaded not guilty to the charges of violating the country’s immigration law by unlawfully leaving Zimbabwe using an undesignated port.

Kasukuwere skipped the country’s borders in November last year when the army executed a coup on former President Robert Mugabe. He took refuge in South Africa for six months before returning home.

His lawyer Mr Jonathan Samukange applied for discharge at the close of the state case arguing that his client’s life was under threat and he qualified for refugee status.

“When a person is under threat, his life is under threat; he can leave the country as a refugee. The refugee status starts from Zimbabwe; it does not start from the foreign country. The act is very clear on that point, so that’s why my client pleaded not guilty……when he left he was already a refugee…,” said Mr Samukange.

The court will hand down its ruling on the application for discharge at the close of the state case today (Tuesday) at 08:30 am.

Chiyangwa Sues “New Grace Mugabe” For $1m

Philip Chiyangwa wants a million dollars

By Paul Nyathi|Flamboyant ZANU PF Central Committee member and Zimbabwe Football Association chairman Philip Chiyangwa is demanding a whopping $1 million dollars for defamation of character from ZANU PF Harare Provincial Women’s League leader Ratizo Mukarati.

Chiyangwa is raising the claims on Mukarati who ZANU PF supporters are calling the “New Grace Mugabe” over utterances she made against him at a ZANU PF women’s interface rally with President Emmerson Mnangagwa last week.

Mukarati who sections of the ZANU PF supporters have accused of behaving like the former First Lady Grace Mugabe by attacking senior party members in public demanded that President Mnangagwa arrests Chiyangwa who she accused of being a land baron who symphonies money from fellow party supporters.

Mukarati claimed that Chiyangwa corruptly acquired land in Harare South and was selling it at exorbitant prices to party members.

Presenting a report to President Mnangagwa during the meeting in Harare last Thursday, Mukarati said Chiyangwa has brought untold suffering to party supporters in the Harare South constituency.

“In Harare South the issue of residential stands is a big issue because of Chiyangwa who claims to be one of us,” said Mukarati.

“Zanu PF political heavyweights like Chiyangwa, Mr President are abusing party supporters after he corruptly bought land which once belonged to the State.

“He (Chiyangawa) is now demanding more money from party supporters who have already bought those housing stands as cooperatives and those who can’t afford are being chased away with their houses and properties being destroyed.”

She added; “These people are now living in poverty and struggling with nowhere to live and these are the same people who voted for Zanu PF in 2013.”

Responding to the reports, Mnangagwa said he has commissioned a land inquiry, adding that once the report is out those found on the wrong side of the law will be prosecuted.

“This report will be made public and I can assure you even those that you have mentioned (Chiyangwa) here, if he is found to have corruptly acquired (land) he will be prosecuted.”

Writing through his lawyers Chiyangwa expressed ignorance and non involvement in the issues raised by Mukarati demanding that she makes a public apology and withdraw the statements against him within twenty four hours or face a million dollar lawsuit from him.

The deadline expired on Sunday and at the time of writing Mukarati had not yet given the public apology and withdrawal of her statements.

ZimEye.com efforts to get a comment from both Chiyangwa and Mukarati were not successful at the time of writing.

Man Kicks Wife To Death

Murder accused Ricardo Sheddon

By Paul Nyathi|A Bulawayo man has appeared in court on murder charge after he allegedly kicked his wife several times on the face and chest until she lost consciousness and eventually died.

The 50 year old man, Ricardo Staddon was arrested for the murder of Kim Caterina who died five days after he brutally attacked for undisclosed reasons.

Staddon was not asked to plead on the murder charge before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Adelaide Mbeure who remanded him in custody to June 24 for further investigations.

Prosecuting, Mr Maclean Ndlovu alleged that Staddon severely assaulted his wife on May 19 at Gainsborough, Barham Green until she collapsed.

“Staddon slapped and kicked Caterina with booted feet on the face and chest until she lost consciousness. She was taken to UBH where she was admitted until she passed away on May 24 at around 8PM,” he said.

“A post mortem which was conducted on May 28 showed that the assault was the cause of death.”

Parliament Gives Up On Mugabe

Former President Robert Mugabe

By Paul Nyathi|After all the drama and hype around former President Robert Mugabe’s involvement on the alleged missing $15 billion diamonds revenue, the stingless Zimbabwean parliament has officially announced failing to bring the former head of state for a formal hearing on the matter.

The August House officially revealed on Monday that it has excused Mugabe from attending a hearing on the diamond leakage at Chiadzwa during his tenure as Head of State and Government.

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy had summoned Mugabe to explain the alleged disappearance of diamonds worth $15 billion under his watch.

The former president absconded the hearing twice.

Mugabe had been given an ultimatum by the committee to attend the hearing on the same day, with its chairman Temba Mliswa threatening to charge him with contempt of Parliament if he failed to turn up.

Presenting a committee report in the National Assembly last week on the diamond sector in Zimbabwe for the period 2009-2016, Mliswa said after consultations, it had been resolved to excuse Mugabe from attending.

“The former President, His Excellency Cde RG Mugabe, was unable to attend at the appointed hour and the committee was due to meet to consider summoning him as a measure of last resort but after consultations with the Honourable Speaker, he was recused from attending,” said Mliswa.

The committee recommended that the next Parliament should pursue the $15 billion and summon Mugabe to explain himself.

“Closure on the alleged missing $15 billion diamond revenues is possible if the former President clears the air on the context he made the assertion that the country lost such amount. The Ninth Parliament must pursue the matter to its logical conclusion,” said Mliswa.

Parliament has since adjourned pending its dissolution on July 29 ahead of the general election slated for July 30.

On two occasions, Mr Mugabe failed to appear before the committee without giving any reasons prompting Parliament to write him a final letter.

At one time, the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy resolved to send a final letter to Mr Mugabe warning that he could be arrested for contempt of Parliament if he continued to dodge the hearing.

Speaker of Parliament Advocate Jacob Mudenda confirmed that all business of the 8th Parliament had been concluded.

“It has been adjourned until the 29th of July when it constitutionally automatically dissolves. All the committees have concluded their business. It adjourned on the Thursday last week on the 7th of June but should a matter of importance arise, which requires the decision of Parliament, it can be recalled anytime before the 29th of July,” said Adv Mudenda.

Section 147 of the Constitution states that “on the dissolution of Parliament, all proceedings pending at the time are terminated and every Bill, motion, petition and other business lapses”.

Section 143 of the Constitution, which outlines the duration and dissolution of Parliament, states: “Parliament is elected for a five-year term which runs from the date on which the President-elect is sworn in and assumes office in terms of Section 94(1) (a), and Parliament stands dissolved at midnight on the day before the first polling day in the next general election called in terms of section 144.”

Unheralded Tawanda Macheke Shines For Dembare

Terrence Mawawa

Harare Giants Dynamos returned to winning ways following their 1-0 win over Mutare City at Vengere Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Glamour Boys had last picked up maximum points in round 11 and the victory propelled them to 17 points but remained on 13th place.

Substitute Tawanda Macheke scored a late goal in the 83rd minute – which made the difference at the end of the encounter.

Both teams created good chances before, with Dembare’s Valentine Kadonzvo and Cleopas Kapupurika getting countless opportunities but they wasted them all.

Rovers also had a goal ruled out for offside in the 20th – which could have changed the complexion of the game.

Results:
Mutare City Rovers 0-1 Dynamos
Highlanders 0-1 Bulawayo Chiefs
Shabanie Mine 2-2 Black Rhinos
Yadah 3-0 Chapungu.

Mnangagwa’ s Liberation War Remarks Rile Zimbabweans

President Emmerson Mnangagwa

By Terrence Mawawa| Like his predecessor and mentor Robert Mugabe, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has warned the people of Zimbabwe against trampling on the values of the liberation struggle.

According to ZBC Online Mnangagwa said the people of Zimbabwe should never take the values of the liberation struggle for granted.

Responding to Mnangagwa’ s remarks social analyst Antony Taruvinga said:

“Bring us back to where we were before this
independence nonsense.

Actually, we were still going to get independence
anyway even maybe without the barrel of the gun. There
are a lot of African countries that got their
independence without waging any war.

All African
countries are free now. Take your independence and
we will fight for our freedom.”

Cee Gospell also wrote:
“Emmerson keep your independence and we will take
our Zimbabwe and our Freedom.”

“Emmerson who you threatening?” posted Dany Muzenda.

Step Down To Avoid Humiliating Defeat, Analyst Tells Mnangagwa

Terrence Mawawa

Hard-hitting social media analyst Antony Taruvinga has urged President Emmerson Mnangagwa to step down to avoid an embarrassing defeat in the July 30 election.

Taruvinga wrote on Facebook yesterday:
“The irony of the Incumbent’s failure.
Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF hoodlums should just step down.
Do not waste time and national resources
seeking office and promising new things when you
have already failed the simplest of tasks that you
promised to achieve.

‘You can rig an election but you can’t rig the
economy’ so said the late icon Dr Morgan Richard
Tsvangirai.

What it simply means is that the business sector
has no confidence in Emmerson Mnangagwa and things
will never change even if he wins the
election.

The “coup” President must admit he has failed
and step down because his promises have come to
nought.”

Mnangagwa Unelectable- MDC

Terrence Mawawa

PICTURE BLAST- CHAMISA RIDING A BICYCLE

MDC Alliance President Nelson Chamisa

The picture of MDC Alliance President Nelson Chamisa riding a bicycle has set the social media ablaze with commentators saying it is not surprising to see the other aspiring Presidential candidates riding either motorbikes, scotchcarts or donkeys in their quest to appear as servant leaders to the electorate.

Chamisa’s picture, as seen above has also attracted controversy with other commentators accussing the Alliance presidential candidate of being an attention seeker who requires orientation of his role as leader of the opposition.

Zanu Pf Strongholds Record Higher Numbers Of Registered Voters

By Own Correspondent| Traditional Zanu Pf strongholds registered an unusually higher concentration of registered voters, the Zimbabwe Election Support Network (ZESN) has said.

According to a report by the ZESN, Zanu PF’s traditional strongholds, namely Midlands, Mashonaland West, East and Manicaland provinces recorded higher numbers of registered voters when compared to opposition MDC-T strongholds.

Bulawayo, Matabeleland North and South which are considered opposition strongholds, recorded the least.

A detailed analysis of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) data by the electoral watchdog, revealed that Epworth and Harare South had an unusually high voter registration turnout.

“Of concern to ZESN are the higher numbers of registered voters in Goromonzi South with 65 539, Epworth (63 961), Dangamvura-Chikanga (58 000) and Harare South (60 270) constituencies.

“This points out to the need for more polling stations in the respective constituencies and the need for a delimitation exercise post 2018 elections,” said ZESN in a statement.

Epworth, Goromonzi South, Harare South and Chikanga-Dangamvura are currently held by Zanu PF legislators and populated by mostly resettled farmers and illegal settlers.

The fight for electoral victory will also be in Zanu PF strongholds – Midlands (717 510), Manicaland (66 943), Mashonaland West (611 751) Mashonaland East (585 198) and Masvingo (583 599), accounting for over 60% of registered voters, while Bulawayo has only 211 276 registered voters.

“ZEC provisional BVR statistics show that a substantial proportion of adult Zimbabweans 2 039 056 did not register in the BVR blitz.

Harare has a projected adult population of 1,3 million [1 345 818], but had fewer than 800 000, who have registered to vote,” ZESN said.

The 2018 general elections will be dominated by young people, who make up over 70% of the registered voters.-Newsday.

1 Million Men Get Circumcised In Zimbabwe

Dr Owen Mugurungi

By Paul Nyathi|The state run Chronicle Newspaper reports that at least one million Zimbabwean men have been circumcised, in a development that will scale up the country’s progress towards reaching the global 2030 HIV targets.

According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care, 1 144 061 men have undergone voluntary medical circumcision (VMMC) so far, a figure that is likely to go up by the end of 2018. The country missed its target to circumcise 1,3 million people by 2015 .

The Aids and TB Unit director in the ministry, Dr Owen Mugurungi, said efforts were still in place to get more men circumcised as figures show that only 21 percent of men have undergone the surgery that reduces chances of HIV infection by up to 60 percent.

“From programme inception in 2009 till December 2017, a total of 1 144 061 males have been circumcised in Zimbabwe. In 2017 alone, 301 366 men were circumcised across the 10 provinces in our country,” said Dr Mugurungi.

“The programme is now nearing attaining its initial target of 1,3 million men. However, when we reach this target sometime this year, we will not stop, but will continue providing this much needed service as we have come up with more targets until 2021 so that we ensure a good number of men are circumcised in Zimbabwe.”

He said the Ministry will continue providing services that will lead to the reduction of new infections.

“We continue to encourage men to seek more information regarding VMMC and make that important decision to get circumcised. It is still for free and is provided by trained doctors and nurses in many of our provincial, district and mission hospitals across the country, including some private clinics in Bulawayo and Harare,” added Dr Mugurungi.

Zimbabwe launched a Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision campaign in 2009, aiming to put 1,3 million men under the knife by 2015 after studies showed circumcision reduced the risk of contracting HIV by 60 percent.

“Tell Investors To Bank Locally”- President Mnangagwa Urged

By Own Correspondent| President Emmerson Mnangagwa today met a Chinese delegation of over 60 business people who are in the country to explore investment opportunities.

President Mnangagwa said the benefits of Chinese investment in the country would see increased job creation, the benefits of which would soon trickle down to the ordinary citizens.

Said President Mnangagwa on his facebook post:

“Great meeting this morning with 60 Chinese businesspeople here to explore investment opportunities and to attend the China-Zimbabwe business forum.

Investment brings jobs. And while turning an economy around takes time, our international outreach is beginning to bear fruit, and the benefits will be felt by the Zimbabwean people!”

Citizens reacted to President Mnangagwa’s post calling on him to ensure that the Chinese investments benefits the country.

Said Wiriranai Mutizira, “Extensive research indicate that the Chinese, since time immemorial, have not brought any significant or positive development in Africa. So my question is, why do we have African leaders still turning to them for so called “developmental initiatives”?”

Albino Trust of Zimbabwe To Open Special Needs Technology Centre

By Own Correspondent| The Albino Trust of Zimbabwe will be commemorating International Albinism Awareness Day with the official opening of a special needs resource centre on 13 June 2018 at its Borrowdale offices.

The organisation revealed this in a statement adding that the centre was a response towards addressing access to information challenges faced by people living with albinism.

Said the organisation in a statement:

Visual impairments of people with albinism hamper their access to information. Most information of public interest is in print and not braille.

The Albino Trust of Zimbabwe realises that poor access to information impacts negatively on academic performance and employment of people with albinism.

Ending poverty through self-sustainability has been on the centre of the organisation’s goals. The Albino Trust of Zimbabwe encourages use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) that enables people with disability to read and work independently without challenges.

Currently the organisation is working on exposing its beneficiaries to a computer software called JAWS in a bid to promote access to information and the internet.

The resource centre bridges lack of knowledge and skill of using computers and will also be a platform to train teachers that work with students with disabilities and other special needs.

The Albino Trust of Zimbabwe looks forward to running a project where there will be installation of at least one computer with JAWS in every school as part of inclusive education.

The guest of honour for the event will be the Minister of ICT and Cyber Security, Supa Mandiwanzira and members of the public and private sector are also invited to attend.

ZANU PF Supporters Thoroughly Beat Each Other At Hero Burial

Godswill Masimirembwa

By Paul Nyathi|ZANU PF supporters on Sunday showed their usual violent character when they thoroughly beat each other up at Stodart Hall in Mbare during the body viewing at the burial of National Hero John Chingumba.

The fight ended with three supporters of the ruling party’s parliamentary candidate, Tendai Savanhu, severely injured and hospitalised.

The fracas was as a result of clashes between Savanhu’s supporters and rivals from losing primary election candidate Emmanuel Mahachi’s camp.

Witnesses said Mahachi’s allies stormed the hall and caused mayhem, accusing Savanhu and his supporters of using dirty tactics to win the party primary polls held last month.

The problem started when Zanu PF
provincial chairlady, Ratidzo Mukarati, complained over the poor turnout at the burial, where she was told Mahachi had threatened to unleash his supporters to disrupt the event.

The violence allegedly broke out when Mahachi showed up at the hall and received a hero’s welcome from his backers, before provincial chairman Godwills Masimirembwa openly reprimanded
him for fanning violence.

Masimirembwa was manhandled in the process, only to be rescued by a Zanu PF provincial deputy youth chair Samuel Chikukwa.

This, according to party sources, angered Mahachi’s supporters, who immediately charged toward Masimirembwa before turning to Savanhu’s followers and attacked them using various weapons.

“Mahachi’s so-called bodyguards started beating up youths and three were seriously injured. One of the bouncers, known as Yadda, had a steel rod and chain, which he used to beat up youths
from the rival camp,” one of the Zanu PF sources said.

The three injured youths were taken to Harare Central Hospital, where one was feared to have had a fractured arm and had eight stiches on the back of his head. The other had a broken leg.

Contacted for comment, Mahachi denied that his supporters were behind the violence.

“It has nothing to do with me, but Savanhu and the people of Mbare who do not like him. I heard there was some scuffle between the people and Savanhu’s backers who were blocking the people from boarding kombis to the National Heroes Acre,” he said.

His supporters claimed the clashes were between Savanhu and disgruntled Zanu PF supporters who were accusing him of rigging the primary elections.

Masimirembwa professed ignorance about the violence, but admitted that some unruly elements were at the hall to disrupt the proceedings.

He also admitted that he summoned and reprimanded Mahachi over his conduct.

“There were some unruly elements, but I don’t know if anyone was assaulted because I had gone to the National Heroes Acre,” Masimirembwa said.

“I talked to Mahachi to try to advise him to embrace each other for the good of the party because primary elections were concluded and Savanhu was confirmed as the winner.”

Police said they were yet to receive a report.

Mnangagwa Throws “Briefcase Businessman” Chivayo Under The Bus

By Own Correspondent| President Emmerson Mnangagwa has hinted that controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo faces prosecution and risks being jailed over failure to satisfy his contractual agreement at the Gwanda solar project.

President Mnangagwa said the mistake made in awarding Chivayo the Gwanda solar project should not be repeated since he is a “fly by night briefcase businessman”.

Speaking soon after touring Nyangani Renewable Energy, a solar power project in Mutoko, President Mnangagwa said government had learnt from the Gwanda solar project which was fraudulently awarded to Chivayo.

Mnangagwa urged government to avoid dealing with businessmen like Chivayo in the future before adding that Chikurubi is not full according to The Herald.

“Both experiences are good because we should never repeat what happened in Gwanda. So both experiences give us good lessons. Here is a project recently started and we are having 2,5 MW in the national grid and soon it will be 10MW in the national grid.

In Gwanda, it is in the third year now and nothing has happened. We need in the future to have committed people who have experience in projects of this nature, not these fly-by-night briefcase businessmen,” he said.

Waitress Scores A Fortune From Harare Big Spenders

A HARARE waitress, Debra, left many envious of her job yesterday after a receipt from new nightclub, Sankayi showed a bill of $8 862 with her tip being $805.

Over the years, waitresses have been looked down on especially considering that most get paid up to $150 a month. But this tip from one table — which is double the salary of most civil servants — has got people talking with some waitresses from as far off as Bulawayo saying they need to relocate to the capital.

Club Sankayi that is located in the Harare CBD and is run by pompous businessman — Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure — is certainly taking over from Pablo’z VIP Club that had positioned itself as the “big spenders” home in Harare.

Now, it seems the big spenders — most whom are Ginimbi’s friends — are now hanging out at Sankayi.

An interview with a patron who frequents the spot showed that a lot of women — especially strippers — were flocking to Sankayi in search of jobs.

“Sankayi is the place to be. Already, about two strippers from Private Lounge have left their trade to work as waitresses at Sankayi as they know the club attracts wealthy men. It seems to be paying off for them because Genius and his crew know how to party and spend money on women,” said the patron who requested anonymity.

On the receipt, Armand de Brignac champagne, Ace of Spades, which is sold for $1 200 per bottle at the club was the most expensive followed by other popular champagnes Veuve Clicquot Rich and Moet.

Club Sankayi, which is barely a month old, has already attracted big names such as DRC’s Fally Ipupa who was there two weeks ago.

Former Zanu Pf Bigwig To Contest Elections Under MDC Alliance Ticket

By Own Correspondent| Former Zanu Pf stalwart Kudakwashe Bhasikiti is set to contest the forthcoming polls slated for July 30 under an MDC Alliance ticket.

Bhasikiti, who was chucked out of Zanu Pf in 2015 by former President Robert Mugabe for “being in the wrong basket” for allegedly supporting the ascendancy of former vice president Joice Mujuru to the presiding was during Mugabe’s reign Masvingo’s Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and legislator for Mwenezi East.

However, since his expulsion from the ruling party, Bhasikiti has openly declared his allegiance to the Gamatox faction pledging that his faction was in support of the MDC Alliance and its candidates.

After being ousted by the Mugabe led administration, Bhasikiti joined Zimbabwe People First then led by Dr Mujuru before joining the MDC Alliance.

Last Saturday, Bhasikiti was introduced by MDC Alliance presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa during the party’s campaign rally held at Rutenga Growth point.

Chamisa introduced Bhasikiti to the crowd and said MDC Alliance is like a church which welcomes everyone.

Said Chamisa, “We think Bhasikiti will be our best foot forward in Mwenezi as our candidate in the July 30 elections, does anyone disagree? I think he will make a good candidate for us.

Yes it is true that he was once in the wrong basket but he is now in the right place. The MDC Alliance is like a church where members worship under a tree, such a church will never fill up and we welcome everyone.”

Mnangagwa Buries Hero In Low Key Burial

President Emmerson Mnangagwa hands over the national flag to Locardia Chimbandi widow to the late John Chimbandi.

By Paul Nyathi|President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Sunday presided over the burial of national hero John Chimbandi with the nation taking very little concern on the burial. In fact much of the nation’s attention was taken away by a highly attended MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa rally which was being held at the same time in Chiredzi.

Chimbandi died at Arundel Clinic in Harare on June 2, after battling chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder and heart enlargement, which affected his breathing. He was declared a national hero by the ZANU PF politburo.

Celebrated as a workaholic who continued to serve the nation after suffering a stroke which partially paralysed the left side of his body, Chimbandi’s burial drew a low turnout of predominantly family members and ZANU PF supporters.

Proceedings began in the morning with people drawn from business, politics and academia thronging Stodart Hall in Mbare for a brief ceremony and body-viewing.

President Mnangagwa and First Lady Auxilia Mnangagwa led the body-viewing session followed by Cabinet ministers, service chiefs and other dignitaries.

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and his wife Marry Chiwenga, Vice President Kembo Mohadi, Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda, Deputy Speaker Mabel Chinomona, Environment, Water and Climate Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, Home Affairs Minister Obert Mpofu, Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, Minister of State for Harare Provincial Affairs Miriam Chikukwa and ZANU PF Politburo member Sydney Sekeramayi, attended the ceremony.

Chimbandi’s body was ferried to its final resting place at the national shrine on a gun carriage.

His daughter Annah said her father was a humble man.

“He was a man of few words and a humble person. “He was a protective father and very generous.”

Chimbandi was born on October 01, 1950 to Anna and Martin Chimbandi in Hwedza’s Zviyambe area.

He attended St Annes Mission, Goto and Ranch House College in Harare for secondary education from 1964 to 1969. Chimbandi obtained a Bachelor of Political Science degree from the University of Botswana between 1969 and 1971.He received his military training in Tanzania after joining the liberation struggle in 1972.

At independence Chimbandi joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Assistant Secretary for Africa and the Middle East. He later served in various capacities in the diplomatic circles until his retirement last year.

ZEC Refuses With Access To Voters Roll Server

Justice Priscilla Chigumba ZEC Chairperson

By Paul Nyathi|The Zimbabwe Electoral Commision has declared that no one, including the opposition MDC Alliance will be allowed to have access to the Biometric Voter Registration server.

In a statement responding to demands made by the opposition MDC Alliance through a petition last week, the ZEC chairperson Priscilla Chigumba said that the server which carries the voters roll is a state security item and will not be made accessible to anyone as is with all other national security items.

“The issue of access to the server is controlled in the same way as is the case with all institutions that keep custody of information of a security or confidential nature,” said Chigumba.

The opposition Alliance in its demands last week requested that ZEC allows a panel of experts from the party to inspect the server for any possible irregularities.

Justice Chigumba also dismissed demands by the MDC Alliance for it to be involved in the procurement and movement of the ballot paper.

“One of the issues raised in the petition had to do with the procurement and movement of the ballot paper and I would like to reinforce that such is the exclusive right of the commission in terms of Section 239 of the Constitution,” said Chigumba.

She added: “This is an administrative matter for which the commission is not subject to the direction or control of any person. However, as a consensus-building gesture in order to foster transparency, the commission has resolved to allow political parties and other stakeholders to observe the printing of the ballots when the time comes.”

Chigumba also said that her Commission does not have the mandate to call off an election once it has been proclaimed as was demanded by the opposition party.

“Our response to the conditions precedent for holding elections, our response would be the commission is bound by the Constitution to carry out its mandate. Once a proclamation has been issued it is required by law to proceed with preparations for elections and it can only be stopped by a court of law”.

ZEC Demands For Equal Airtime On ZBC For All Candidates

A ZBC TV crew covering live the MDC Alliance manifesto launch

By Paul Nyathi|The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has written to Zimbabwe Media Commission demanding that all political parties taking part in this year’s elections be given equal coverage on state media including the ZBC.

Commission Chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba indicated in a statement responding to a petition on electoral reforms presented to the Commision by the opposition MDC Alliance last week.

The Alliance had raised concern on equal access to the media by parties contesting the elections.

Justice Chigumba said: “The commission has written to the Zimbabwe Media Commission and the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe in line with section 160 of the Electoral Act. The best time to ensure there is access to and equal coverage of all political parties by the media would be after June 14 when the commission knows who will be contesting.”

The ZBC has been accused of only covering the ruling ZANU PF election campaigns and ignoring other political parties. The issue was included in a host of electoral concerns raised by the opposition MDC Alliance when it held a demonstration which was attended by about 10 000 people in the capital last week.

Two days after the demonstration, the ZBC appeared to have reformed and went on to broadcast live the opposition MDC Alliance manifesto launch on both radio and television.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has repeatedly assured the world that this year’s elections will be free, fair and credible.

The Government has invited observers from all over the world to witness the election.

Victorious Zim Warriors Travel Back By Road

Warriors at Beitbridge border post

The 2018 COSAFA Cup champions, Zimbabwe’s Warriors arrived back home on Sunday evening from South Africa by road after conquering Southern Africa for a record 6th time.

The triumphant warriors were spotted by ZimEye.com readers in a long queue at Beitbrdge border post on Sunday afternoon waiting to do customs and immigration formalities.

The site of the warriors at the border travelling by road raised ire amongst the Zimbabwean football fans who questioned how the football mother body ZIFA failed to raise airfares for the team.

Grace Mugabe And Allegations Of “Becoming MDC Alliance Vice President,” Claims By Jim Kunaka

By Farai D Hove| ANALYSIS| Many Zimbabweans have said they are burning to see what could be of former First Lady Grace Mugabe’s rumoured desire to be installed as Vice President in the MDC Alliance.

These claims were made by NPF party stalwart, Jim Kunaka on Friday. He made the comments while reacting to the firing of his boss, Ambrose Mutinhiri from the party presidency by spokesman Jealousy Mawarire.

ZANU PF bigwigs said there is “a striking coincidence” of the development coming at a time when Professor Jonathan Moyo accidentally shot a LIVE video of himself discussing about a female donor of the NPF. During the video-recorded discussion, Moyo could be heard discussing with Robert Mugabe’s nephew, Patrick Zhuwao on the identity of the donor and another one, only titled, “Muchembere.” One of the donors reportedly donated 20,000 party t-shirts.

This discussion was triggered on micro blogging website, Twitter by the ZANU PF UK Chairman Nick Mangwana. Activists claimed that Grace Mugabe could be headed to the influential post in the MDC Alliance following party spokesman Jealousy Mawarire’s declaration of support for the MDC Alliance in Harare last week.

It was the issue of joining the MDC Alliance which was last Friday criticised by the Mutinhiri faction as they conjoined it with the allegations of Grace Mugabe being behind the move and this with the intention of eventually becoming Nelson Chamisa’s deputy.

But party leader Nelson Chamisa has said Grace is nowhere near coming to the Alliance.

“Now they say Grace Mugabe wants to be VP in Alliance I see you panicked. Friends if Mnangagwa abused Grace’s name to chase Mujuru from Zanu Pf then used Grace’s name to justify a coup then do not be surprised when he uses Grace’s name to try to steal voters from MDC Alliance.

As far as we know Grace Mugabe retired from active politics and she is not coming anywhere near the Alliance,” said Chamisa on his Facebook page.

Below was the full text of Chamisa’s statement:

There Will Be Sideshows, Propanganda; Infiltration!

As the freedom train roars across Zimbabwe, there will be every effort by the junta to use scare tactics to deceive you, do not easily believe.

When they said Chamisa lost in court you panicked, when they said Chamisa wrote to Mnangagwa for GNU again you panicked.

Now they say Grace Mugabe wants to be VP in Alliance I see you panicked. Friends if Mnangagwa abused Grace’s name to chase Mujuru from ZANUPF then used Grace’s name to justify a coup then do not be surprised when he uses Grace’s name to try to steal voters from MDC Alliance.

As far as we know Grace Mugabe retired from active politics and she is not coming anywhere near the Alliance.

Fear not Zimbabwe, our eyes are firmly on the prize as we criss-cross Zimbabwe, expect worse things because these are the people who brought you Ari Ben Menashe and tried to send away Morgan Tsvangirai for treason. Remain steadfast, musacheuke semukadzi waLot.

Keep singing to promises of SMART our economic revival policy, tell rural communities that DURA is here which will make rural agriculture easier, every village a tractor, no more hard labour of using hoes to till the land, tell the hopeful that we want to take them to the next level through Transformation Opportunities & Properity (TOP).

Do not be scared, look forward, do not seek sideshows otherwise you will argue with ghost accounts, use that time to reach out to the rural folks who need to hear the gospel of change.

The voters roll is coming out soon, it is key for Free, Fair and Credible elections, you have your part to play in making it genuine.

Keep listening as we will give you instructions on how to play your part. This freedom is for everyone, all hands on deck. It is not exclusive to MDC members but every Zimbabwe is a war veteran for freedom. #StrongerTogether

Chamisa MDC Spokesperson On Allegations Of Plagiarising South Africa’s Constitution

By Dorrothy Moyo| The Nelson Chamisa led MDC has responded concerning allegations of plagiarising the South African constitution.

Social networks were abuzz at the weekend with many Zimbabweans attacking the party on being copy-cats.

The new MDC-T spokesperson Thabitha Khumalo said it is not a bad idea to copy the South African Constitution.

She was quoted by the state media responding to reports that the MDC Alliance plagiarised Section 2.11 of the South African Constitution, which it presented in its manifesto as Chapter 10.

Khulamo told the Herald although she was yet read the MDC Alliance manifesto, there was nothing wrong about learning from other people. She said, “I have not had the opportunity of reading it through-out at the moment but I do not think there is anything wrong about that. We need to use benchmarks.

“I do not think that is a bad idea. We learn from other people. When we do manifesto we need to consult far and wide. We are a unique country. We break all records. We have to find solutions on how other countries have done it and cross pollinate. Is that wrong to share notes?, ” she added.

ED Rejects Reforms And Cherry Picks “No Violence” Code – We Demand A La Carte Menu

By Patrick Guramatunhu| When President Mnangagwa took over power after the November 2017 coup and promised to hold free, fair and credible elections; every thinking Zimbabwean was overjoyed because the country’s failure to hold free and fair elections was universally accepted as the root cause of our economic and political mess.

Their joy was short lived as it became clear that President Mnangagwa was not going to implement any of the raft of democratic reforms everyone agreed at the onset of the 2008 GNU were the pre-requisite for free and fair elections. He has his own ideas of how free and fair elections could be delivered without implementing the reforms.
“I would want every leader, including myself, to commit to non-violence, to a clean campaign, a free election, a credible election. We must remain united, and the future of this country is bright. The new era is coming and together, let us enter Cannan while united,” President Mnangagwa told his supporters.

Of course, every thinking Zimbabwean is very disappointed with President Mnangagwa’s proposal of doing away with implement the reforms in favour of adopting a gentlemen’s agreement, not enforceable in a court of law. The code will only address the problem of violence, offering a temporary solution at best, and sweep all the other election problems under the carpet.
There is no denying that the Police, Judiciary, snd others have so far failed to stop Zimbabwe’s culture of political violence because Zanu PF has systematically eroded these institutions’ independence turning them into Zanu PF departments in all but name. The Police have turned a blind eye to Zanu PF inspired political violence; indeed they have even played an active role in the wanton violence of 2008 and 2013.

Whilst implementing the democratic reforms would have restored the Police’s, and all the other state institutions, independence and power to enforce the country’s laws without fear or favour; the code is doing no such thing. President Mnangagwa wants us to retain the status quo and so the Zanu PF thugs restrained by the code can be unleashed again at the drop of a hat.
The more subtle forms of violence such as the Chiefs threatening to boot all opposition supporter out of their areas will remain.

Besides ending the culture of political violence, important as this is, is not enough to guarantee free and fair elections. We want a free public media, ZEC must produce a verified voters’ roll, Zanu PF must be stopped from robbing the nation blind to bankroll the party’s vote rigging schemes, etc.
Zimbabwe is in this economic and political mess because the country has been stuck for 38 years with a corrupt and incompetent regime that rigged elections to stay in power. The code of conduct will limit one of Zanu PF’s vote rigging options on the strict condition the party can opt out whenever it wished. Of course, this is totally unacceptable; we need to restore all the conditions for free, fair and credible elections a.s.a.p. if the country is ever to get out of this mess.
“No violence. We want free, fair and credible elections. We have invited foreign election observers because I am very confident,” concluded President Mnangagwa.

With not even one democratic reform in place it is impossible to see how anyone, anyone at all, can ever judge these flawed and illegal elections free, fair and credible. The best outcome for Zimbabwe is to have these flawed elections condemned so the country is forced to revisit and finally implement the raft of democratic reforms agreed at the onset of the 2008 GNU. – zsdemocrats.blogspot.co.uk

Chikurubi Is Not Full: ED Warns Wicknell Chivayo

CONTROVERSIAL businessman Wicknell Chivayo faces prosecution with the risk of doing time behind bars after President Mnangagwa said the mistake made in awarding him the Gwanda solar project should not be repeated.
The President said this soon after touring Nyangani Renewable Energy, a solar power project in Mutoko, Mashonaland East on Saturday

President Mnangagwa said Government had learnt a lesson from the Chivayo debacle compared to the success of the Nyangani project.

“Both experiences are good because we should never repeat what happened in Gwanda,” he said.

“So both experiences give us good lessons.”

He commended the Nyangani project adding that Government would in future avoid dealing with businessmen of Mr Chivayo’s ilk.

“Here is a project recently started and we are having 2,5MW in the national grid and soon it will be 10MW in the national grid. In Gwanda it is in the third year now and nothing has happened.

“We need in the future to have committed people who have experience in projects of this nature, not these fly by night briefcase businessmen,” President Mnangagwa said before abruptly adding a reminder that “Chikurubi is not full”, a reference to the maximum security prison on the outskirts of Harare

Mr Chivayo was awarded the Gwanda solar project in 2013 and was paid over $5 million for pre-commencement works.

There is little progress on the Gwanda project yet Mr Chivayo has been flaunting his riches on social media.

He recently took a selfie of himself with stacks of South African rands.

He often boasts on social media about his riches, and that he always laughs last.

Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy chaired by Norton legislator, Mr Temba Mliswa, carried an inquiry into the award of the tender to Mr Chivayo and has exposed several irregularities in the deal. A tour by the parliamentary commitee of the project site in Gwanda, Matabeleland South Province, found two wooden cabins.

Mnangagwa Promises To Prosecute Chiyangwa

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has indicated that his long time “Tsholotsho Coup Ally”, Phillip Chiyangwa will be prosecuted if found guilty of corruption.

Mnangagwa was speaking during a Zanu-PF Women’s League meeting on Thursday.

Mnangagwa promised to rein in on Chiyangwa.

Mnangagwa said, “this report will be made public and I can assure you even those that you have mentioned (Chiyangwa) here, if he is found to have corruptly acquired (land) he will be prosecuted.”

He was referring to questions on a report presented by Zanu-PF Women’s League Harare provincial chairperson Ratidzo Mukarati which fingers Chiyangwa for acquiring land in Harare South. Mukarati said Chiyangwa is demanding more money from Zanu-PF supporters who bought those housing stands as cooperatives. She said those who cannot afford are being chased away with their houses and properties being destroyed. – state media

Chamisa Promises In Trouble Prison Officer His Job Back

Nelson Chamisa assuring John Mahlabera his job back.

By Paul Nyathi|Firebrand MDC-T leader Nelson Chamisa has promised that he will reinstate to his job a Zimbabwe Correctional Services Officer who was suspended from work for praising him at the expense of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Chamisa who paraded the man, John Mahlabera, in front of a packed Stadium in Chiredzi on Sunday assured him that he will get his job back on the 1st of August when he wins the presidential elections set for July 30.

Mahlabera who is a Senior Prison Officer based in Chiredzi was last week summoned to appear before the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services internal disciplinary hearing after he allegedly heaped praises on the main opposition MDC-T president Chamisa, allegedly describing him as “my president”.

In the summons (case number 2929948A,) Mahlabera is being charged with contravening section 3 (1) of the Prisons (Staff) Discipline Regulations 1984 of “using traitorous or disloyal words regarding the President or the government” or alternatively section 3 (46) of “being guilty of any other act, conduct, disorder or neglect of duty to the prejudice of good conduct or discipline”.

According to the charge sheet, on April 9 near Chiredzi Prison, Mahlabera “unlawfully” made political comments on his Twitter handle after an MDC-T rally held at Jerera Growth Point in Zaka, which was addressed by party president Chamisa.

Mahlabera, according to the charge sheet, wrote: “Come to Chiredzi my President” on his Twitter account, thus showing loyalty to the opposition party president, while exhibiting disloyalty and disgraceful contact (sic) to the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and Head of State and Government and the Commander-in-chief-of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces or his office”.

The summons, on a prisons letterhead, were written by officer-in-charge of prisons police, one M Ferenando, and copied to the officer commanding prisons in Masvingo province.

Mahlabera’s lawyer, Collins Maboke, of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), said his client is set to appear before the disciplinary hearing on June 12 in Masvingo.

Maboke said the allegations infringe on his client’s freedom of expression

“First of all, they do not have evidence to the effect that the Twitter account belonged to my client. Secondly, how did they come to the conclusion that he was referring to the president of the MDC-T, Nelson Chamisa? What if he was referring to another president of an association or President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Again, the Constitution guarantees freedom of expression,” he said.

Mahlabera joins a long list of 200 other Zimbabweans-according to the ZLHR, who have been arrested and prosecuted in courts by the previous administration of ex-president Robert Mugabe for undermining the authority of and insulting the president.

The party has attracted criticism from analysts and parties opposing the MDC Alliance.

MDC Primaries, Job Sikhala Speaks

Job Sikhala

Dear MDC-T Alliance Family.

I write to you after a long time from my Facebook page because of the overwhelming commitments I had despite our nation being confronted with an impending election. As you know, I contested in our party’s primary elections seeking the mandate from the people to represent them in the constituency of Zengeza West against the ZANU PF candidate. The internal party process to chose the candidate for Zengeza West took place weeks ago. I never minded to broadcast it to the world because it meant nothing to me.

I am not disparaging at all against those who took it upon themselves to announce it to the world that I have won the right to represent my party in Zengeza West because these are people who wished me well in my endeavours. Thanks to those comrades and friends. For me, I took it as a normal process which should be respected in an institution like ours. I would like to thank my party with the democratic and peaceful way they allowed the process to take place in Zengeza West. There weren’t been funnies. The party allowed the people of Zengeza West to express themselves. People should learn that in internal processes there is no winner or loser as long as the process is done freely and fairly. The winner must never and I emphasise, must never take himself and herself as the paragon of knowledge and wisdom. Rather it should humble every true leader that being elected by the people among a troop of contestants doesn’t mean to say that you are the wise men from the East. It is merely being bestowed with the responsibility to carry their voice. This must humble even the most arrogant in the village.

I have seen many people who misconstrued the responsibility thrust upon by the people as meaning being the wisest in the vicinity. It’s not true. I humbly thank you the people of Zengeza West for bestowing your confidence in me to be the midwife of the problems we face as a community.

This could not have been possible had it not been of unprecedented and overwhelming financial support I obtained from good and solid friends from across the world who teared when they head about my intention to stand in Zengeza West. Tafadzwa Musekiwa and his wife Tariro made the most contribution to this success. I wonder whether they spared any money for their food as they contributed almost half of the £30 000 I got from my genuine friends. My sibling Harry Sikhala, Memory Mucherahowa Mwendamberi, Nathaniel Mphisa, Brian Musekiwa, Charles Mutama, Arthur KD, Mirirai Bere, Thomas Maseko, Nqobile Ndlovu, Dewa Mavhinga, Moses Oburu, and many others. I was even surprised by your love and confidence in me. Thank you colleagues. You are true friends.

However, the main objective is to make sure that we create a dream Zimbabwe. To all members of the MDC T Alliance family primary elections come and go. The objective remains the same. We might all not been satisfied by how the process might have been handled in our constituency. No process is 100% perfect. We must not lose focus of the bigger picture. Nelson Chamisa needs to win. The passing on of our unifying icon leader must teach us the struggle for our freedom can only be obtained through unity. I am sorry and take this opportunity to apologise to anyone who might have been offended along the way in our internal process to elect our representatives. It is now time to congregate around the idea and our dream. Our dream and idea is around the policies which are being articulated by our President Nelson Chamisa around how we are going to extricate our country from the jaws of poverty.

Primary elections should not blind us from focusing on removing these pretenders who have been presiding over our nation for decades. There is no hope except despair if these people who came to power through a coup win the forthcoming elections. There will be loads of empty promises and hopelessness if tikaita chiramwa chegurwe. Unity in our ranks is our only hope. I am sorry to those who play factional politics in our family. We are one and nothing should divide us. Factionalism is the creation of a mindset. A mindset that is toxic and unproductive. Our factional focus should be around Chamisa to deliver victory for all of us. Lets be focused and finish the business we started years ago. It has taken long but the destination is near. Victory is ours and ours only to lose. I love you all. In in unison victory is attainable.

I thank you. Lets rally behind our president.

Veteran Presenter Unimpressed With Current Crop Of DJs

Ezra Tshisa Sibanda

AVID listeners of various radio stations all over
Zimbabwe idolise and revere the young crop of
presenters that have since emerged and have been
under the spotlight since the mid-2000s.
For many, the likes of KGV, Phathisani and Delani
Makhalima just to mention a few are a formidable
force to reckon with but renowned radio personality,
Ezra Tshisa Sibanda does not share the same
sentiments.
The outspoken social media fanatic has condemned
some radio presenters, arguing that their
performance on radio is not up to standard.
“The problem is I am a very busy man and I don’t
get time to listen to all radio stations. The few DJs I
have listened to are shockingly pathetic yet some
are good. The problem is they lack originality, no
creativity and no real identity of who they are.
They imitate and one can tell they want to be
someone else,” said Sibanda.

Further expressing himself, not bound by anything he
sets focus on the radio stations themselves,
highlighting that they sounded the same. With his
vast experience in radio, he has this to say.
Stopping at nothing, he went on to strike a
comparison between the radio presenters that
rocked the stations decades ago and those of today,
whose case is perhaps that of paper fire.

“You ask yourself, we left radio in 2002 but 16 years
down the line people still remember us, they still
remember Brenda Moyo, Peter Johns, Eric Knight,
James Maridadi, Englam Nyathi etc because we
were broadcasters. We took our job seriously and
each one of us was clear of what was expected of
them as radio personalities and we created our own
identity.

We were passionate and we are still
embedded in most people’s hearts, look at how
many presenters have been on radio since we were
made redundant but listeners have forgotten them
yet they still remember Ezra Tshisa Sibanda,” said
Sibanda.

To buttress his views on radio and the presenters of
nowadays, he had this to say: “Most of these
presenters lack proper training and I wonder if some
of them were really auditioned or were just thrown
behind the microphone. If I am in Bulawayo I listen
to Babongile Sikhonjwa and Possenti they sound
different from the lot and they are themselves. There
are other youngsters who have potential. All I can
say is that some of these radio presenters should
stop trying to sound foreign. They should not suffer
from an inferiority complex,” he said.
For his word to be heard across the nation, he still
has not lost hope in applying for a radio licence.
“I applied for a radio licence two times, a national
commercial and Bulawayo.

I was denied both times.
It’s so painful because
I am a simple radio personality who loves his job
and wanted to give people an example of a
professionally run radio station which will connect
with the people. I still need a radio station and I
know I can do better for our listeners. There can be
many radio stations but listeners can tell the
difference between a real radio station and a
wannabe.

I hope the new dispensation will open up
airwaves. Let’s have competition and the best will
always take over the listening audience.”
Sibanda is currently based in the United Kingdom
and is still on radio.

He is the brand ambassador of a fast growing
company Senditoo which deals with airtime where
people from abroad can buy and top-up airtime for
their relatives all over the world. He is also the brand
ambassador of Cassava Remit a UK-based
subsidiary company of Econet where people can
now buy goods and services for their loved ones in
Zimbabwe.

People can also send money through
EcoCash from UK to Zimbabwe.

Back home he is involved in charitable work under
the Ezra Tshisa initiative which deals with education
and well-being of children who come from poor
backgrounds. His initiative is currently sponsoring
children around Matabeleland and Midlands with
school fees and uniforms. Some of the sponsored
children have completed their degree programmes at
local universities- Sunday Times

Three Feared Dead Following Violence In Mnangagwa’s Hometown

By Own Correspondent| Three people are feared dead after violence rocked Mbizo suburb in President Emerson Mnangagwa’s hometown Kwekwe on Friday.

Sources from the National Patriotic Front (NPF) alleged that the violence was perpetrated by Zanu Pf supporters against its members.

On Friday, it is alleged that machete wielding Zanu Pf youths went on a rampage attacking NPF supporters in violence which saw two people die soon after the attack while the third person succumbed to injuries sustained from the clashes yesterday (Saturday).

Former Kwekwe Central Member of Parliament Masango Matambanadzo confirmed the deaths saying the bodies of the three were at Kwekwe General Hospital.

Matambanadzo told an NPF rally that the increasing number of people who were axed to death by Zanu Pf supporters was worrisome.

“The number of people being axed to death at illegal gold mining sites by alleged machete wielding Zanu Pf supporters is worrisome,” said Matambanadzo.

Zanu Pf’s aspiring candidate Vongai Mupereri, a close relative of President Emmerson Mnangagwa was reportedly fingered to be supporting the violence. However, Zanu Pf’s Midlands Provincial Spokesperson, Cornelius Mupereri dismissed claims that the attacks were politically motivated adding that this was purely a criminal case.

“The people involved are not Zanu Pf and I think this violence was not politically motivated,” he said.

“I believe that the Mbizo violence is a criminal case. I am however not privy to the details but I think that this is a criminal case. I do not know anything about the deaths,” he said.

Efforts to get a comment from the police were futile.

NPF National Political Commissar, Jim Kunaka last week alleged that Zimbabwe would not hold free, fair or credible polls under President Mnangagwa’s administration.

Kunaka alleged that because Zanu Pf was a political party with violence in its DNA, as the election date draws closer, violence would be unleashed to citizens.

“Mnangagwa preaches peace when he is in public.

Free, fair and credible elections is mere rhetoric for podiums but on the ground, things will get worse as we head towards elections,” alleged Kunaka.

Wealthy Obert Mpofu Neglecting Mugabe Old Grandfather

Obert Mpofu at one of his numerous farms.

HOME Affairs minister Obert Mpofu has been accused by parliamentarians of neglecting a 94-year-old farm employee who is said to be taking care of an Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (Arda) estate that the minister is said to have run down.

Outgoing Mabvuku-Tafara MP James Maridadi raised the issue during a debate on Parliament’s public accounts committee (PAC) report on Arda in the National Assembly last week.

The report presented by PAC chairperson Paurina Mpariwa revealed that most Arda estates were under-utilised.

Maridadi seconded the motion and claimed that during a visit to the Arda estate run by Mpofu, they discovered that the government property was run down and the minister’s employee was being neglected.

“Mpofu is one of the individuals in ownership of one of Arda’s estates, and we went to visit the estate as a committee. “but I tell you if we were to show you the pictures of that estate, every one of you will be angry,” he said.

“The person who was said to be taking care of the estate is an old man around the age of 90 years [and] of foreign descent, and he told MPs that he was a security guard at the farm.”

Maridadi said the man looked very frail and ill, adding that it was evident that he needed urgent medical attention.

“I will not even be surprised if one day that old man is found dead, and what Mpofu is doing to him is gross violation of human rights — and for it to be done by a minister in government is immoral, inhumane and despicable,” he said.

Maridadi produced pictures of the man in Parliament.

“The old man cried and said he had not been paid for months, and it was evident to us that even if Mpofu were to give the guard $50, it would go a long way and would make him happy,” he said.

“It is sad that Mpofu is a man of means, but the house where the guard lives is fit for a dog, the blankets were not washed and there was a strong stench coming from the house.

“I would urge the Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda to send a delegation so that the old man can be assisted.

“If President Emmerson Mnangagwa were to see this old man, Mpofu would be out of his job.”

Mugabe Prosecutor Faces The Chop

Ray Goba

PROSECUTOR-general Ray Goba risks losing his job after the Judiciary Service Commission (JSC) asked him to give reasons why a tribunal should not be set up to investigate his suitability to hold office.

The JSC wrote to Goba after deliberations with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) boss on Thursday centred around a litany of charges.

Goba, who was appointed under controversial circumstances last year, is accused of failing in his duties to prosecute several corruption cases.

He is also accused of putting his office into disrepute by trading insults with lawyers and has allegedly been sneaking out of the country, on certain occasions, without Cabinet’s authority.

According to sources close to the matter, the step taken by the JSC showed that it was satisfied with complaints that Goba was not fit for the office of NPA boss.

“What happens is that a complaint is received from whoever would have made it and after looking at the complaint, the JSC then decides whether or not the allegations are worth pursuing and if so, the commission then writes to the PG and asks him to respond,” the source said.

“In this case, yes a letter was sent to him to respond.”

JSC acting secretary Walter Chikwanha said the commission’s deliberations were highly confidential and he was unable to comment on Goba’s case.

However, the sources said Goba was likely to be investigated by a tribunal in line with section 187 (3) of the constitution.

Yesterday Goba would neither deny nor confirm that he received the letter from the JSC.

“Where did you get that from? That is very interesting, that’s my comment,” he said.

Tomana was accused of refusing to prosecute former Telecel acting chairperson Jane Mutasa and former Bikita West MP Munyaradzi Kereke, who was later convicted of rape.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently appointed an anti-corruption commission unit in his office, saying the NPA had failed to effectively deal with corruption cases. – The Standard

Ngezi Platinum Stars Finally Lose At Home

FC Platinum players celebrate

By Paul Nyathi|FC Platinum finally brought to an end Ngezi Platinum Stars’ 31-match home unbeaten run.

It was Ngezi’s first defeat, at home, since August 13, 2016 when they went down 2-0 at the hands of the now defunct How Mine.

Two late goals by Winston Mhango and second half substitute Never Tigere saw FC Platinum open a three-point lead at the top of the log table. Mhango converted from the spot in the 89th minute after Gift Mbweti had been brought down by Frank Makarati, in a scoring position, forcing referee Norman Matemera to point to the spot.

Second half substitute Tigere sealed the victory for the defending champions four minutes into added time from a well struck free-kick on the left flank.

Donald Teguru had put the hosts in front four minutes from the break after breaking loose on a counter attack.

Ngezi Platinum Stars coach Tonderai Ndiraya who has made it known that he is gunning for the title felt disappointed with the result but said he was not throwing in the towel yet.

“It is a disappointing result for us, I thought we had done enough to collect three points but due to a case of loss of concentration we conceded a silly goal, from a silly penalty.

“We knew it was matter of time and now that we have put ourselves in this situation. We have to take ourselves out of it.

“There are still 18 games to play and we are still in it,” said Ndiraya.

Mapeza sang the same tune with his counterpart Ndiraya stating that it was too early to talk about the championship.

“After conceding that first goal, I saw that players were dejected and I had to go into the pitch and tell them to calm down and be patient. It’s still too early to talk up about the championship.

“If you guys (media) want to decide who is going to win, it’s up to you but I know it’s game on for us.

“There are still 18 games to be played and there will be twist and turns in the title race,” said Mapeza.

Mnangagwa Sets Up Own Prosecution Unit

President Emmerson Mnangagwa

By Paul Nyathi|President Emmerson Mnangagwa has announced that he has officially set up his own anti corruption prosecution unit.

Mnangagwa revealed that he set up a seven-member team of lawyers to constitute an Anti-Corruption Prosecution Unit in his office which he created recently in his efforts to intensify fights against graft.

The President has since his inauguration last year pledged to fight corruption, which he singled out as stymieing economic growth and scaring foreign investors away.

President Mnangagwa said those engaging in corruption should be warned that the law will soon catch up with them.

Mnangagwa said this while addressing ZANU PF supporters at a rally at Chinzanga Primary School in Mtoko Mashonaland East Province on Saturday.

“This new dispensation says down with corruption, down with corruption, down with corruption. I hear that here, there are councils, rural district councils and urban councils that are corrupt,” said the President to thunderous cheers from the bumper crowd.

“Now, I want those who are engaging in corruption to listen. Today, before I came here, I had a meeting with seven lawyers, prosecutors.

“I have assembled a team of seven well experienced prosecutors. I have established the Anti-Corruption Prosecution Unit in the Office of the President to deal with corruption issues. So (those engaging in corruption) be warned.”

Mnangagwa Reiterates Call To Meet Chamisa

Rivals Nelson Chamisa and Emmerson Mnangagwa

By Paul Nyathi|President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reiterated his desire to meet opposition MDC-T President Nelson Chamisa.

Addressing multitudes of ZANU PF supporters at a rally at Chinzanga Primary School in Mtoko on Saturday, Mnangagwa said that he is still waiting for the opportunity to meet with leaders of all opposition parties to discuss the forthcoming harmonised elections.

The hugely attended rally was meant to drum support and unveil the ruling party’s candidates for Mashonaland East Province ahead of elections pencilled for 30 July.

President Mnangagwa said he was confident Zimbabwe will hold free, credible and violent-free elections.

“My leadership, my colleagues are very confident that we are capable of holding free and fair elections.”

“That is why I wanted to meet other leaders from contesting parties so that they commit themselves to ensure that we hold non-violent elections, but the meeting could not be held because I am told we now have so many political parties.

“So we need to wait until the nomination court sitting to know who will be contesting.

“I would want every leader, including myself, to commit to non-violence, to a clean campaign, a free election, a credible election. We must remain united, and the future of this country is bright. The new era is coming and together, let us enter Cannan while united.”

Government, he said, was informed by the stubborn belief in the country’s capacity to preside over a democratic plebiscite to invite several election observer and monitoring teams.

“We have elections that are coming in July. We have invited all Sadc countries, African Union, EU (European Union) the United Nations and even other countries in the East to observe our elections,” said the President.

“We have invited them because we do not want violence.”

“No violence, we want free, fair and credible elections. We have invited foreign election observers because I am very confident,” he said.

The MDC-T leader has also openly expressed his willingness to meet with Mnangagwa and wrote a letter to the President requesting for the meeting.

Ncube Whips Truant MDC-T Supporters Into Order

Professor Welshman Ncube at Nyangeni Business Centre in Gwanda North on Saturday.

By Paul Nyathi|Leader of the MDC Professor Welshman Ncube has hit hard on MDC-T members who are denigrating on the MDC Alliance coalition agreement and presenting themselves as candidates in constituencies reserved for other coalition partners.

Addressing a hugely disappointing MDC Alliance rally at Nyangeni Business Centre in Gwanda North on Saturday Ncube blamed the MDC-T supporters for deliberately dividing the people of Zimbabwe in order to push their own selfish aspirations.

Ncube who is the spokesperson of the MDC Alliance narrated how the idea of the Alliance was muted by the late MDC-T founding President Morgan Tsvangirai calling on members of the Alliance partners to respect the wishes of the late opposition leader.

“President Tsvangirai took time to go around the country consulting everyone on what should be done to defeat ZANU PF and everyone asked that we reunite as the founding members of the MDC of 1999,” said Ncube.

“It was in that spirit that we agreed to formulate the MDC Alliance coalition beginning with uniting the three splinter parties the MDC, PDP and the MDC-T hence the name MDC Alliance.”

Ncube then went on to explain the highly contested allocation of parliamentary seats amongst the Alliance partners expressing disappointment at the MDC-T members who are bulldozing themselves into constituencies allocated to other partners.

“We set down with Tsvangirai and agreed that the MDC-T will provide the Alliance Presidential candidate which is why he was the candidate and Nelson Chamisa took over from him,” he said.

“When we came to the issue of parliamentary candidates we agreed that these will be allocated based on the 2008 election results where the MDC had seven seats here in Matabeleland South.”

“We however agreed as a party to cede three of those to the MDC-T leaving the MDC with four constituencies including this very one.”

Ncube’s outburst came after members of the MDC-T called for a counter rally at the same time with the Alliance rally within the same area and called on its members to ignore the candidate presented by the Ncube led MDC. The members declared their own candidate as the one contesting the constituency.

Ncube said that the issue of who the MDC Alliance candidates will be, will be finalised on Thursday at the nomination courts.

“The true final candidates of the MDC Alliance coalition will be known on Thursday at the nomination court,” he said.

“Those of us with selfish agendas that stand against the wishes of the people of Zimbabwe will be exposed on the day and we shall know them,” said Ncube.

The MDC-T structures in most parts of the country have been turning against the MDC Alliance coalition agreement fronting candidates in constituencies reserved for other coalition partners resulting in fears that the Alliance might collapse before the elections.

ZimEye.com efforts to get a comment from the MDC-T National Chairman Morgan Komichi who is in charge of the party candidates identification process were not successful at the time of writing.

Chigumba Tells Chamisa: You’re Pre-Mature In Demand For Voters Roll

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission head Priscilla Chigumba has told off MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa on his demands for a copy of the voters roll to be used for the upcoming elections.

Publishing  in the state media on Sunday, the ZEC said the demand is premature.

Their statement was in response to the 5th June 2017 march.

The ZEC in their message said :  “The demand by the Alliance for an electronic copy of the provisional voters’ roll is premature. We provided aread onlycopy of the printed voters roll because it is subject to correction. Section 21 of the Electoral Act [Chapter 2:13] does not refer to a _provisional voters’ roll but a final voters’ roll for an election. In particular, Section 21 (4) provides that within a reasonable period of time after the calling of an election, the Commission should provide every political party that intends to contest the election and accredited observer who requests it with a voters’ roll to be used in the election whether in printed or in electronic form as the party or observers may request. The voters’ roll referred to here is a final one for the election and it cannot be a provisional one. That is the Commission’s reading of the law. It is the final voters’ roll which must be in an analysable format not the printed voters’ roll.

“It is only rational in the circumstances, for the Commission to be allowed to complete its process and produce a new voters’ roll which stakeholders would have every right to raise questions and objections on. The Commission is at the tail end of the process of cleaning and updating the roll following the inspection period which was conducted from the 19th to the 29th of May 2018 and urges all stakeholders to be patient. It is confident that the BVR exercise coupled with the use of the MIS will produce the desired product for the country. In all fairness the country needs to start on a new slate on the voters’ roll. It is our considered view that availing a provisional voters’ roll to stakeholders will only create confusion and raise unnecessary questions for it is an imperfect document still fraught with errors and duplications.”

“Mugabe” Party Challenges Mnangagwa On Arresting Criminals

The Robert Mugabe aligned National Patriotic Front has challenged President Emmerson Mnangagwa on his corruption claims as well as the justification for the November 2017 coup.

Speaking in Harare on Friday, the newly appointed leader, Sandi Moyo said the Mnangagwa administration’s claims of ” arresting criminals surrounding the president,” were laughable.

Her statement came within two days of President Mnangagwa revealing that he has set up a seven-member team of lawyers to constitute the recently established Anti-Corruption Prosecution Unit in his office, as the fight against graft intensifies.

The state media says he has since his inauguration last year pledged to fight corruption, which he singled out as stymying economic growth and scaring foreign investors away.

The rest of the articke reads: Corruption became pervasive in the past two decades under the old administration led by former president Mr Robert Mugabe, resulting in Zimbabwe being listed among the most corrupt countries in the world.

President Mnangagwa said those engaging in corruption should be warned that the law will soon catch up with them.

He was addressing multitudes here yesterday at a rally at Chinzanga Primary School, meant to drum up support and unveil the ruling party’s candidates for Mashonaland East province ahead of elections pencilled in for July 30.

So (those engaging in corruption) be warned.
President Mnangagwa said he was confident Zimbabwe would hold free, credible and violence-free elections.

Government, he said, was informed by the stubborn belief in the country’s capacity to preside over a democratic plebiscite to invite several election observers and monitoring teams.

“We have elections that are coming in July. We have invited all Sadc countries, the African Union, EU (European Union) the United Nations and even other countries in the East to observe our elections,” said the President.

“We have invited them because we do not want violence. As a party, why would we want to fight with small puppies? Let the puppies roam around as we ignore them.
“No violence, we want free, fair and credible elections. We have invited foreign election observers because I am very confident.

“My leadership, my colleagues are very confident that we are capable of holding free and fair elections. We are mature in Zanu-PF.

The new era is coming and together, let us enter Cannan whilst united.”

President Mnangagwa said he was pleased with the numbers that turned out for yesterday’s rally, emphasising that Mashonaland East province is the backbone of the ruling party.

“Ndafara ndichikuvonai neuwandu hwenyu. Kuno muri musvo weZanu-PF. Muri musvo zvekuti izvo kana Mashonaland East ikatadza kuendesa vanhu kuParliament, ahh, Zanu-PF inenge yatoremara.
“Mashonald East is the backbone of the party. This is where the party is. Your numbers are testimony that this is a no-go area if you are not Zanu-PF.

“I can feel my blood flowing smoothly when in I am here because I am in the midst of people who support Zanu-PF.”

President Mnangagwa urged those seeking to represent the party in next month’s elections to respect traditional leaders. He said chiefs were the custodians of the land and areas under their jurisdiction.
“I want to plead with the leadership of the party that they should respect the traditional leaders in the areas they come from.

“I also urge Government employees to respect traditional leaders in the areas they work in.
“The Government has said it will look after the welfare of the chiefs because our traditions and values are safeguarded by the chiefs.

“We have respect for our traditional leaders and they have a space in our national Constitution.
“But the traditional leaders must remember that there is a party called Zanu-PF.
“You lead subjects in areas within your jurisdiction, but Zanu-PF leads the whole country. So be united with Zanu-PF and work with it.”

President Mnanagwa said he is aware of the cash crisis, saying the challenges had mostly affected the rural folk who have little access to electronic financial systems.

The Head of State and Government said a significant chunk of money had been set aside under the Basic Education Assistance Model (Beam) to afford children a right to education.
The new dispensation, he added, had brought hope to the country.

“We are a new dispensation, we are a new Zimbabwe, we are a new era, (and) we want a new future,” he said.

“We are a new dispensation that has brought about a new hope for this country.
“We are bringing hope for the young, hope for the old, hope for our children, hope for our grandparents. We are a party of hope, a party that must preserve the heritage of our country.

“We are a party that is non-selective and we are saying everyone in Zimbabwe should benefit from our legacy.”

President Mnangagwa said Zanu-PF’s primary elections were, like any political game, bound to lead to clashes and disputes, but the losing candidates should accept defeat.
The country and party had reached a stage where it was under siege from a few individuals, but the nation would not allow itself to be held to ransom, he said.

He said the new political administration had come up with a programme to guarantee food security. He said the new economic thrust was to modernise and mechanise agriculture to ensure the country puts 350 000 hectares of land under irrigation.

Currently, irrigation equipment is being imported from India, Spain, Brazil and China to ensure a good harvest each year, he added.

The rally was attended by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and his wife, Mary, the ruling party’s national chairperson, Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, Zanu-PF Politburo and Central Committee members and others from various party organs.

Fixing Roads 7 Weeks Before Elections, Govt Pours $20 mln

As the nation prepares for the upcoming elections, government has poured over $20 million to fix roads in the space of under 2 months.

The timing of the expenditure fits into the pre-election period.

State Media report: Government has availed at least US$20 million for the rehabilitation and construction of over 2 000km of roads in the next two months as it moves towards its target of rehabilitating 50 000 km by year end.

At least 21 000km have been constructed and rehabilitated since the beginning of the year. The progress follows years of road neglect that had rendered the infrastructure impassable due to potholes.

According to an Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme Report seen by The Sunday Mail, Mashonaland East Province will have 1 074km of road being rehabilitated while US$2,5 million has been set aside to work on roads in Harare between now and end of next month.

The report shows that Mashonaland Central and West provinces will have 296km of roads rehabilitated, while 342km of roads will be worked on in Matabeleland South Province with 111km targeted for both Masvingo and Midlands provinces.

About 86km will be done each in Manicaland and Matabeleland North by the end of next month.
The Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme was launched last year in March in response to the poor state of roads as a result of incessant rains during the 2016-2017 season.

However, no significant progress was registered owing to funding shortages.

The report also shows at least 18 bridges will be attended to countrywide.
According to the report: “Building on the success recorded under the programme this year, Government will sustain the level of investment to the road sector in order to reclaim our road network by 2019.

“Beyond the current interventions, Government will ensure establishment of sustainable funding for the road sector, with resources being drawn from the budget road fund as well as the private sector through joint ventures partnerships.

“A total of $20 million has been set aside for national consolidated ‘hotspots’ road projects for the period June-July 2018.” The Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme complements Government efforts to rehabilitate the country’s entire road network.

Currently, Government is receiving bids to construct and rehabilitate the country’s major trunk roads, airports and railways which are estimated to cost US$2,7 billion.

VIDEOS: SECRET MUGABE MEETING: Bob Told Me To Start Anti Mnangagwa Party, NPF

National Patriotic Front (NPF) interim president Brigadier-General (Retired) Ambrose Mutinhiri has said he was handpicked by former president Robert Mugabe and given a kick start to launch a political party which would challenge zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Mutinhiri (see the ZimEye LIVE coverage below), said he was chosen on the basis of his military training and reputation which would stand out against Mnangagwa.

Brig-Gen (Rtd) Mutinhiri said: “I formed this party after I met former president Mugabe. Soon after the military intervention, I told him that I did not agree with how the soldiers had used the gun to take power. He also told me that he did not agree with it. He said to me you are the right person who should lead the party. He said you are the first person whom I have seen to have the right credentials. You have the right credentials to challenge these men who took power because they know you.

“He said to me, you were their commander and they will listen to you if you speak, even the whole country knows you. Uri munhu akatswakatuka semu Zimbabwean, asina corruption, enda unoita basa. This is what he said to me and soon after, I formed this party,” he said.

Brig-Gen (Rtd) Mutinhiri said NPF will not join the MDC Alliance, and laughed off his purported dismissal from the party.

“As your president, my position is that I am not joining the MDC Alliance. Some who were part of us jumped the gun and proceeded to announce that they had joined the Alliance. I did not agree with that and it did not come from the people. If they want to join the Alliance, they should do so on their own accord and not on behalf of the party,” he said.

NPF, he added, will go it alone in next month’s polls, with aspiring candidates for parliamentary and council seats to be finalised by Tuesday, in time for the nomination court that sits two days later.
He fired a salvo at Mrs Sandi Moyo and Mawarire, saying they could not fire him from the party he had formed.

“I did not even know who Mawarire was. He came to me requesting to join the party and we made him spokesperson after he had spoken about his experience in journalism.

“Sandi Moyo has no political clout to write home about. I know for certain that for 38 years she never won an election.”

On Friday, NPF national political commissar Mr Jimmy Kunaka said former First Lady Mrs Grace Mugabe secretly funded the Sandi Moyo faction as part of her plot to angle for the vice presidency in the MDC Alliance. – state media

Supa Mandiwanzira Wants To Fine Econet, Others For Disappearing Airtime

NATIONAL, BUSINESS, BREAKING

Information Communications Technology (ICT) and Cyber Security Minister Mr Supa Mandiwanzira intends to fine Econet Wireless and others over what he terms, “questionable billing.”

Government will soon announce new tariffs for the mobile telecommunications sector, and plans are underway to begin imposing hefty fines on industry players that offer substandard services such as dropped calls and questionable billing, it has emerged.

Mandiwanzira told The Sunday Mail on the sidelines of the Potraz Consumer Awareness road show yesterday that the pricing regime was borne out of consultations with operators.
“There are consistent meetings between the regulator and the operators in terms of cost structures and I will be announcing together with Potraz some major movements in terms of the price (data and telephony); I will not tell you whether we are going up or down,” said Minister Mandiwanzira.

Potraz, he added, is also importing hi-tech equipment to monitor the quality of service provision by telecommunication companies.

The industry regulator is also drawing up industry standards expected of local telecoms companies.
Service providers that fail to meet the set standards will face huge penalties.

“A couple of months ago, a lot of people complained about NetOne, especially their product called One Fusion, saying that they had lost a lot of money.

“What they had been promised by NetOne did not happen and they were reported to Potraz, and Potraz took action and all those people were refunded.
“I do not know how many hundreds of thousands of dollars that was, but the reality is that the consumer ended up getting the benefit for the loses they had incurred,” said Minister Mandiwanzira.

“In terms of quality of service, there has to be an agreed standard of quality of service that is offered by network operators and Potraz has just been investing in new equipment and if that threshold set by Potraz is not met, there are huge fines that will be paid by the operators,” he said.

According to Minister Mandiwanzira, there was need to educate Zimbabweans on the benefits and dangers of using new technologies.

“The amount of people who are using telecommunications is increasing. “Starting with just mobile telecommunications, the penetration has increased significantly. ‘‘We are sitting at 95 percent active penetration and we are more than 105 percent mobile phone activity.
“But the truth of the matter is that the people who are using these services do not understand their rights and the operators have not taken enough time to tell the people what their rights are in terms of the subscriber contracts they sign.

“It is the responsibility of Potraz to educate Zimbabweans on their rights in terms of the use of telecommunication services,” he said. New players, he also added, were welcome in the sector.

“If you consider our situation, that we have three mobile networks, the chances of an investor coming in to set up a fourth network is limited, but if we have an investor who is serious and who is committed to investing and creating jobs, we will certainly consider.

“We are open for business and we will not say no to anyone who wants to invest, as long as it makes commercial sense, and as long as it allows commercial viability within the market.
“We also do not want to allow situations where there is a flood which makes everybody in the business unprofitable,” he said.

Minister Mandiwanzira also donated 10 computers to Nyamhuka Primary School.-state media

ED: I’m Your Servant

The colours that painted Mutoko yesterday said it all, some bit of yellow here, some bit of green there.

Mashonaland East woke up to a hive of great activity; the ruling party was coming to town; and with it some hope for a brighter Zimbabwe.
One could almost touch the excitement that was being brewed by the sky-high anticipation.
As early as 7am, the great trek led to Chinzanga Primary School, the venue for Zanu-PF’s election campaign Mashonaland East leg.

President Mnangagwa, who is Zanu-PF’s numero uno, was expected to deliver a message of peace, hope and political tolerance.

An estimated 30 000 people from across the province dedicated the afternoon to hear President Mnangagwa speaking about his vision for the country.
They were not disappointed.

As soon as the President got onto the podium to deliver his keynote address, Jah Prayzah’s tune, “Kutonga kwaro”, bellowed from the speakers.
It was time for the signature presidential dance, which has become popular at all Zanu-PF rallies and is trending on social media.

Once upon a time, it is this same dance that earned the then Vice-President Mnangagwa a nasty stick from former First Lady, Mrs Grace Mugabe.

“Hanti munoona, anotamba achizvinongedza kudai kana achitamba ‘Mdhara achauya’.”
Mrs Mugabe, who was clearly annoyed by the dance, imitated the moves at the last rally she addressed at Rufaro Stadium in Harare. But that was then, and this is now.

At all ruling party rallies, several people now take to the dance floor to mimick the presidential dance.

Yesterday, Zanu-PF Secretary for Women Affairs, Cde Mabel Chinomoma; Chairperson Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri and Politiburo member Cde Sydney Sekeramayi, among others, proved that they have mastered the dance very well.

And when it was time to deliver the much-awaited speech, with dust still in the air, President Mnangagwa rode on the festive mood, pledging servant leadership.
“I am your President due to deployment. I am your servant,” he said, whipping the crowd into a frenzy.

“We have a programme for this country. We have a programme for Zanu-PF. The first thing for this new dispensation is to ensure food security. Hakuna unofa nezhara.
“We are blessed with good soils, a good climate and natural resources in this country. That is why we continue to invest heavily in Command Agriculture, irrigation and mechanisation.”
He went on to delve into the energy, education and health sectors, among others, clearly articulating his Government’s plan once given a new mandate come July 30.

A bright vision for the country had been painted through amazing craftsmanship.
“The future is bright. And together, let us enter Canaan. Kune uchi nemukaka,” said the President in conclusion.

With the sun heading west, it was time for the jubilant crowd to disperse.

There was a new sense of purpose, a renewed vigour for tomorrow.- state media

Breaking: Chamisa Speaks On Grace Mugabe Joining MDC Alliance

Former First Lady Grace Mugabe

By Own Correspondent| MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa has broken the silence regarding claims by the NPF led by Retired Brigadier General Ambrose Mutinhiri refuting claims that plans were afoot for the former first lady Dr Grace Mugabe to land a Vice Presidency post within the coalition of 7 political parties.

Chamisa said the former first lady is nowhere near coming to the Alliance and the statements were divisive propaganda by President Emmerson Mnangagwa meant to scare and deceive the electorate and steal votes from the MDC Alliance.

Below is the full text of Chamisa’s statement.

“Alliance Has No Desire To Be Associated With Mugabe”: Welshman Ncube

By Own Correspondent| The MDC Alliance has refuted claims by National Patriotic Front (NPF) Spokesperson, Jelousy Mawarire that the coalition of 7 opposition political parties was in talks with the party which was made up of mostly Zanu Pf’s G40 faction.

Spokesperson of the Alliance, Professor Welshman Ncube said while the coalition welcomed and was open to the idea of joining forces with like minded opposition political parties ahead of the July 30 plebiscite, the Alliance had no desire to be associated with the terrible rule of the former president Robert Mugabe or his wife, Dr Grace.

Ncube’s statement follows revelations by Mawarire that his party, which is reportedly endorsed by the former president, Mugabe would on Monday July 11 make an announcement regarding joining an alliance as part of their efforts to defeat President Emerson Mnangagwa in the forthcoming harmonised polls

“We do not know the extent to which Robert Mugabe is or is not behind the NPF. We read in the press that he might be the godfather or the motivator.

We have no desire whatsoever to be associated with the terrible rule of Robert Mugabe. Make that clear,” said Professor Ncube.

Professor Ncube also denied that the Alliance was in talks with NPF even though some of its members attended the electoral reforms match on Tuesday.

“All we are saying is that there is a common minimum denominator that ‘do you want an end to quasi-military rule; are you prepared to vote for our candidate in order to assist us to remove that junta from power?’ If your answer is yes, we say please work with us to that limited extent.

There has been no discussion on border policy issues with NPF. We do not necessarily know what they stand for but there is only that minimum common denominator that we are talking about,”
