Nyambirai Rubbished For Punishing Own Workers For Merely Protesting

By Paul Nyathi| (Econet) Steward Bank icon Tawanda Nyambirai has been rubbished for removing his workers from the houses they have lived all their lives at Acturus Mine.

Nyambirai was during the week condemned for upholding the firing of his workers who were punished for merely protesting. In a statement to ZimEye, Mr Nyambirai said his workers have been dismissed “on various grounds including unlawful collective action.”

Nyambirai was responding on the article that last week revealed how elderly workers were forced out of their houses by the man himself.

The development saw the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions descending onto the mine to offer support to the workers.

One critic commented saying, “listen to this faceless Capitalist Oligarch and I quote,”The workers have been dismissed on various grounds including unlawful collective job action.” The working class is now trampled into the dirt for asking for better working conditions and better wages. Is this not what we fought for. This is exactly what Rhodesia did to blacks. This job has its hazards and is back-breaking.The miners deserve better treatment.Government must intervene, especially where they are women and children involved.”

Meanwhile, below was Nyambirai’s full statement: Dear Paul, your article is very unfair. It is also very unfair for you to bring Strive’s good name in matters that do not concern him. This is very irresponsible of you.

Tawanda Nyambirai

The 80 people whose families were evicted had their employment terminated well before I acquired the mine. They appealed against their dismissal and their appeal failed. They had been dismissed on various grounds including engaging in unlawful collective job action. They had held onto company houses because they had not been paid. As part of the deal, I undertook to clear their arrears on the basis that they would vacate upon being paid. After I paid them approximately $700,000.00, some of them engaged lawyers and refused to vacate. Some of them were involved in illegal gold panning. I had to litigate to get them evicted. I acquired Arcturus so that I can exploit its mineral resources and real estate for commercial gain. In the process, I am creating employment and contributing to the national economy. I also have rights. Why should I let people occupy my houses for free, use power that I pay for, at my expense for free, use water and sewerage reticulation facilities at my expense for free? I treat the sewage and purify the water at my expense. Why do you attack me for being a responsible investor and for following due process? If Zimbabwe is open for business to foreigners, it must also be open for business to locals like me. You should be reporting about the politically supported makorokoza who moved in heavy equipment and are processing gold illegally in part of my mine. I have an urgent application pending against them, therefore your allegations of human rights abuses is unfounded. It is my human rights that were being abused.

Kind Regards

For and on behalf of Mr Nyambirai

Mnangagwa Says: “People Don’t Eat Slogans”

Mnangagwa during his youth days…

By Farai D Hove| The Zimbabwean people do not eat slogans, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said.

He said this as he republished his picture as a young leader in former President Robert Mugabe’s government.

That picture shows him looking up while surrounded by a group of ex-Rhodesian army officers.

It was not clear at the time of writing when exactly the picture was taken.

Below was his short text: “People will embrace programmes that are beneficial to them and not political slogans that do not bring economic turnaround.”

SundayMail Says ED Has Returned Home With A Bag Full Of Billions Of Dollars In Sealed Deals

By Dorrothy Moyo| The state owned Sunday Mail reports that President Emmerson Mnangagwa has returned home from China with a bag full of billions of dollars in sealed business deals.

The report published early Sunday morning, had a flashing headline with the text: ” ED RETURNS WITH A BAGFUL.”

The article speaks of for instance the US$1 billion Hwange Thermal Power Station deal which it says was finalised and funds to start work on units 7 and 8 of the plant will be released immediately.

The rest of the report reads: The Kunzvi Project reached financial closure, with Sino Hydro and China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) committing to provide resources for a dam and water treatment plant, and to rollout installation of smart prepaid water meters.

Other projects that will get immediate funding totalling about US$1 billion include Robert Mugabe International Airport expansion, a new Parliament Building, NetOne’s expansion, refurbishment of Morton Jeffrey Water Treatment Plant, and construction of a pharmaceutical factory among others.

Zimbabwe and China also signed a US$1 billion tourism memorandum of understanding.

President Xi Jinping’s government extended a special RMB1 billion (close to US$160 million) facility for Zimbabwe to draw down over three years, and US$20 million to assist President Mnangagwa’s administration.

Chinese investors offered to fund construction of roads and railways, while one wants to build a multi-million dollar five-star hotel in Victoria Falls.

Officials from Oriental State Chinese agreed to set up industrial parks in special economic zones.

On the diplomatic level, the two countries agreed to elevate relations to Strategic Partnership Status, the highest level of bilateral co-operation.

Soon after landing in Harare yesterday morning, President Mnangagwa said: “The trip was a huge, massive success. We have now escalated our relations from the all-weather friendship status to the level of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and Co-operation.

“This is the highest level which China has with other nations so Zimbabwe has been elevated to that status. When that is achieved it means that there would now be very comprehensive economic relations.

“In that regard, when we looked at our economic relations, there were some challenges facing Zimbabwe in relation to arrears of various loans or contracts or projects or agreements which had been entered into before.

“So we are able, through the wisdom of his Excellency President Xi Jinping, to de-link the past with the present.

“The present is now being opened from a new page where all the projects which we presented have been agreed to and are going to be financed; whilst the old commitments by Zimbabwe to previous projects will be worked on, but separately de-linked from the current process.”

Briefing journalists on the State Visit, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Dr Sibusiso Moyo said President Mnangagwa’s administration had registered huge successes in China.

He said there was “real chemistry” between Zimbabwe’s Head of State and President Xi.

“This, was in summary, what I would call a rejuvenated relation between two brother nations,” said Dr Moyo

“It has been action packed in as far as concretising the economic interest of both countries. The success story is that Zimbabwe was offered Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which is higher level from the usual all-weather friendship which existed over the years.”

Dr Moyo also said China had agreed not to judge Zimbabwe on the failures of the previous administration.

“President Xi’s government accepted to de-link that whole process and gave a new blank check to Zimbabwe’s current administration.

“We pledged to be responsible for the legacy debt, but as far as those debts were going to be an impediment for us to implement the existing projects, at least that has been de-linked. Zimbabwe was given a new life line as far its economic trajectory is concerned.”

Dr Moyo said the visit had created space for major infrastructure investments.

“There were a number of memoranda of understanding that were signed to develop the road infrastructure in Zimbabwe, and these include possible roads like Beitbridge-Bulawayo-Victoria Falls, and also support was pledged to develop the road from Beitbridge to Harare and also to Chirundu, when certain aspects have been finalised.

“There have been issues around the construction and development of railway systems from Zimbabwe to a port in collaboration with Mozambican authorities, and these are infrastructure projects which are already in the pipeline and which are coming through. The success stories from China are numerous.”

Dr Moyo said Zimbabwe had been invited to be part of the Belt and Road Initiative, President Xi’s ambitious project to create a truly global economic village.

Finance and Economic Development Minister Patrick Chinamasa said the objectives of the mission to China had been achieved.

“The funding of new projects had stopped because we were required to reach an agreement with China Eximbank and also Sinosure, which guarantees most of the investment signed in China,” he said.

“So, they had stopped disbursing, stopped funding new projects. As a result of this visit we were able to persuade the Chinese authorities that our failure to pay our loans was that these loan were legacy loans; these are legacy arrears and that we should be given time to undertake our reforms.

“The result was that the Chinese authorities have de-linked three specific projects, which could not take off. These had reached financial closure but could not take off.

“For Hwange 7 and 8, the disbursements will start immediately. The NetOne Phase 1 was also de-linked, and disbursement will start immediately. The same for Robert Mugabe International Airport.

“The important outcome was to de-link new things from old things. With respect to the old existing debts, we are taking discussions and the expectations is that the discussions will conclude soon.

“This included the Harare Morton Jaffrey Water Works (refurbishment) which stopped and disbursement stalled and we fell into arrears. The Sino Pharmacy debt, National Defence University debt and Sino cement debt are under discussion.”

Industry, Commerce and Enterprise Development Minister Dr Mike Bimha said there was keen interest from Chinese investors to invest in special economic zones.

Dr Bimha said the representatives of 75 Zimbabwean private companies that went to China with President Mnangagwa also sealed deals.

“There is renewed interest in terms of special economic zones in terms of industrial parks; we have an investor who will soon be coming to Zimbabwe to establish an industrial park,” he said.

“We have an investor interested in special economic zones looking into textiles, looking into the whole value chain from cotton to textiles. There was also interest in tourism.”

On arrival in Harare yesterday, President Mnangagwa was received by Vice-President Dr Constantino Chiwenga, Cabinet ministers and other senior Government officials, and service chiefs.

IN PICTURES: US Senatorial Visit To Zimbabwe

US Senators and officials led by Senator Christopher Coons jetted into Zimbabwe to as they claimed, “explore ways of strengthening the bilateral relationship.”

The five Senators met with President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Members of the opposition and civil society, among others to discuss how best to work together to create a brighter future for all Zimbabweans.

Senator Jeff Flake expressed that the building of a more than $200 million dollar New U.S. Embassy compound was a clear indication that the United States values the relationship.

Former Brazil President Lula Da Silva Turns Himself To Police

NATIONAL NEWS

Former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva told thousands of supporters Saturday that he would turn himself in to police, but also maintained his innocence and argued his corruption conviction was simply a way for enemies to make sure he doesn’t run — and possibly win — re-election in October.

The public comments were da Silva’s first since the Supreme Federal Tribunal, the country’s top court, ruled against his petition Thursday to remain free while he continued to appeal his conviction. That ruling set in motion a series of events that would have been unimaginable just a few years ago.

Judge Sergio Moro, who oversees many of the so-called “Car Wash” cases, ordered an arrest warrant for da Silva, giving him until 5 p.m. Friday to present himself to police in Curitiba, about 260 miles (417 kilometers) southwest of Sao Bernardo do Campo, and begin serving his 12-year sentence.

Da Silva, who Brazilians simply call “Lula,” did no such thing. Instead, he hunkered down with supporters in the same metallurgical union that was the spiritual birthplace of his improbable rise to power in one of the world’s most unequal countries.

“The police and ‘Car Wash’ investigators lied. The prosecutors lied,” said da Silva, as a few thousand supporters cheered.

“I don’t forgive them for giving society the idea that I am a thief,” he continued.

Still, da Silva said he would turn himself in “to go there and face them eye to eye. The more days they leave me (in jail), the more Lulas will be born in this country.”

Da Silva did not say where or when he would turn himself in. Party leaders have suggested it would be later Saturday.

Police have made clear they do not want to take da Silva with force at the union, a confrontation that could turn violent.

“The intention is not to force compliance at any cost, but rather follow the order the best way possible, with tranquility and without a media show,” president of federal police Luis Antonio Boudens said in a statement late Friday.

While da Silva spoke, some people cried while others chanted “Free Lula!”

When he finished speaking, a sea of supporters carried him on their shoulders back into the building.

Mauricio Santoro, a political science professor at the State University of Rio de Janeiro, said that by not complying with the order on Friday da Silva “wanted to demonstrate strength and popularity, showing that he is a political leader capable of gathering a crowd in his support.”- AP

Chinese Deals To Secure A Dictatorship?

Wilbert Mukori | Let us remember where we were, and how we suffered as an isolated nation. In this new era Zimbabwe is open to the world, and governments, businesses and individuals all are looking to do business with us,” wrote President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

“We had many fruitful discussions with political and business leaders in China, including President Xi Jinping, and secured a host of deals which will make a real difference to the lives of Zimbabweans.”

Five points:

1) What “isolation” are you talking about, Sir? Zimbabwe broke relations with the West but not with the East as your predecessor President Mugabe made very clear in his “Look East” policies. Zimbabwe has failed to get any financial assistance and foreign direct investment from the East because of the country’s failure to repay debts and reputation as a corrupt and lawless nation.

Many Zimbabweans are finding your denial of Zanu PF’s decades of misrule as the root cause of the country’s economic meltdown, blaming instead everything on these mythical sanctions, an insult to our intelligence.

2) We all know that there have been no takers to your “Zimbabwe is open for business!” clarion call from anyone in the West because they have been disappointed to see that you have no intention of holding free, fair and credible elections. Investors do not do business in countries ruled by thugs, by failing to hold free and fair elections you are per se confirm Zimbabwe is still a de facto one-party state.

3) China has remained Zimbabwe’s “all-weather friend” dating back to the days of the liberation war, as you readily acknowledged the other day. China has benefited greatly from the relationship as it has been able to flood Zimbabwe with cheap Chinese products and thus forced many of our own local producers out of business and has had a lion’s share of the wholesale looting that has been going on in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe has suffered the economic meltdown which has seen unemployment soar to 90%, ¾ of our people now live on US$1.00 or less a day, etc.

Zimbabwe is now the poorest nation in Africa. China is the second richest nation on earth! So all-weather friend!

4) Among the mega deals you signed with President Xi Jinping are deals to help Zanu PF rig the elections. It is no secret that China has always help prop up the Zanu PF dictatorship and provided all the material and moral support to rig elections. It is no secret that China is doing this again now for the same selfish reason of making sure Zimbabwe remains in China’s sphere of influence.

5) Zimbabwe’s economic recovery is only assured by the country ending the criminal waste of resources born of the gross mismanagement and rampant corruptions and the return of law and order. The only sure way to achieve this is for the country to implement the democratic reforms and hold free, fair and credible elections.

By refusing to implement the democratic reforms designed to stop vote rigging you have per se condemned this nation to more years of Chinese exploitation and poverty. The next regime change in Zimbabwe will have to be another military coup or street protests, both will be bloody. This is something this nation is not going to tolerate.

With no reforms, these elections are not going to be free, fair and credible. We strongly object to the continued interference of the Chinese in Zimbabwe’s elections. These flawed elections must and will be declared null and void!

“I will therefore continue to work tirelessly for the people of Zimbabwe both at home and abroad, as we embark on this new and exciting journey together,” concluded President Mnangagwa.

By refusing to implement the democratic reforms designed to restore the individual freedoms and human rights of all Zimbabweans including the right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country you are proving the Zanu PF dictatorship is alive and well.

The only thing “new” from Mugabe’s days is that the head of the dictatorship was replace by a new one. It is “an exciting journey” for the new dictator and his cronies but not the ordinary people who continue to suffer under the yoke of the corrupt, vote rigging and tyrannical dictatorship!

Mujuru Takes Chigumba On

People’s Rainbow Coalition (PRC) presidential candidate, Joice Mujuru, has written to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) complaining over her exclusion from the political parties’ platform, where the upcoming elections are discussed.

The three political parties with representation in Parliament – Zanu PF, MDC-T and MDC – have been meeting to iron out a number of issues ahead of this year’s polls.
Mujuru said even though she is not in Parliament, PRC were a major political player and deserved to be heard.

Her coalition wrote to Zec advising of its existence and demanding inclusion in the political parties’ platform.

They were assured that they will be invited to discuss poll related issues with other parties.
Through her lawyers, Gift Nyandoro of Hamunakwadi and Nyandoro Law Chambers, Mujuru gave Zec five days to respond.

“With respect, the above development has taken our client with shocking surprise and, hence, our client writes to enquire with your office if indeed participation in the political discourse of our country more so in light of the forthcoming harmonised elections is only a preserve of parties represented in Parliament,” he said in response to reports that the three parties MDC-T Zanu PF and MDC met with Zec.

“Our client further wishes to find out if the so called electoral [law] amendments are being done under the auspices of your office given that our client is not even aware of ever having been invited to such a key political meeting whose outcome would without doubt seek to shape the future political trajectory of our country; should the possibility of holding of free and fair elections be a reality?”

Nyandoro said there were reports that the three parties held numerous meetings with Zec at a hotel in Nyanga, where electoral law reforms were discussed.

“Our client wishes to enquire on whether parties represented in Parliament are the only bona fide parties to contribute their views regarding Zimbabwe’s current political discourse that centres on the possibility of the need to hold free and fair elections,” he wrote.

“If indeed it is true that only three political actors are predominantly deciding the national question of electoral reforms, it is then our client’s view that such conduct amounts to gigantic proportion of the death of democracy in our country.” Newsday

Junta Chases Jonathan Moyo

The net is closing in on former Cabinet minister Jonathan Moyo, pictured, who has now been indicted for trial next month over serious allegations of corruption which authorities say happened during his time in government.

However, it is not clear whether the garrulous Moyo — who has been living in self-imposed exile ever since long-ruling former president Robert Mugabe was ousted from power in November last year — will return to the country to face his accusers.

But the State says he will stand trial on May 21, together with his former deputy in the Higher Education ministry, Godfrey Gandawa, as well as three executives from the Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund (Zimdef).

Moyo is facing a slew of allegations relating to corruption which include serious fraud, money laundering and criminal abuse of office charges, as well as claims that he benefited from

Zimdef donations that involved the purchase of bicycles which he donated to his former Tsholotsho North constituency.

“… Moyo has been indicted and will face his day in court on May 21,” Prosecutor-General Ray Goba confirmed to the Daily News yesterday.

Apart from Gandawa, Moyo will be tried together with Shepherd Honzeri, suspended Zimdef chief executive officer Frederick Mandizvidza and its finance director Nicholus Mapute.

According to the State, Gandawa and Moyo recommended and approved a request for the purchase of 10 printers worth $95 800 and a computerised embroidery machine worth $16 000 on November 6, 2015.

It is also alleged that they awarded the contract to Wisebone Trading (Pvt) Ltd, a company that is said to be owned by Gandawa’s uncle — all this without going to tender as required by the law.

Moyo is alleged to have, from November to December 2015, instructed Honzeri to get quotations for tri-cycles for donation to his then Tshlolotsho North constituency, before instructing Gandawa to transfer $19 030 to HIB Rajput Ace Cycle.

The money was said to be the balance of the money from the printers purchased from Wisebone.

Moyo, Gandawa and Mapute, according to the State, also connived to transfer $27 550 from Fuzzy Technologies for the purchase of 10 three-wheeled motor cycles.

The State says Moyo and the officials were, all in all, involved in multiple corrupt activities which prejudiced Zimdef of $450 000.

On his part, Moyo has said that he is not corrupt, and since he fled the country, he has been working hard to discredit the government by repeatedly questioning the legitimacy of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his administration, which has, however, been accepted by Sadc, the African Union and key Western powers.

Moyo has also told international media that his life is allegedly in danger, and that he has no intentions of coming back home until there is what he terms a “return of constitutional government”.

“The military specifically targeted my house and myself with a clear intention to cause harm and that is why I am not in the country, although I left legally.

“I am not at liberty to disclose my whereabouts because they have shown a very clear and determined intention to find me and harm me wherever I am,” Moyo said in an interview with the BBC.

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc), which was repeatedly thwarted by Mugabe in its attempts to have Moyo arrested over the corruption allegations, said yesterday that it expected the former Tsholotsho North MP to turn up at court to clear his name.

“All the witnesses are there and all the evidence is now there for all to see. It’s now up to the judges to deal with the matter.

“As for his (Moyo’s) extradition, that is a matter for the National Prosecuting Authority,” the head of Zacc investigations committee, Goodson Nguni, said.

But well-placed sources to the Daily News last night that they “know” where Moyo was, and that in the event that he did not turn up for court, the government had numerous options at its disposal to deal with him — including activating extradition processes which would see an international arrest warrant being issued against him.

The omens have not been good for Moyo ever since the Constitutional Court (Con-Court) dismissed his application challenging Zacc’s arresting powers.

Sitting as a full bench, the Con-Court ruled in September last year that he had erred when he rushed to the apex court on the issue, when a magistrate could have dealt with the matter.

Moyo had gone to the Con-Court in a bid to stall Zacc, which had swooped on him in 2016. He had argued that he could not be arraigned before the magistrates’ courts on the basis that the anti-graft body had no powers to arrest and detain him.

The late retired Chief Justice, Godfrey Chidyausiku, had subsequently stayed Moyo’s prosecution — pending determination of whether or not his arrest was constitutional.

Moyo, who was bitterly opposed to Mnangagwa succeeding Mugabe, also accused the then VP and key players at Zacc of waging a factionally-driven war against him.- Daily News

US Tells Mnangagwa Reforms First – Sanctions Go

US Senators on a fact finding mission to Zimbabwe led by Senator Christopher Coons have told the Emmerson Mnangagwa administration that Zimbabwe risks losing out on the opportunity to have sanctions lifted if electoral reforms that guarantee free, fair and credible elections are not implemented soon.

Senators Chris Coons and Jeff Flake, both members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, have introduced a bill to lay the framework for U.S. relations with the new government in Zimbabwe. This legislation updates the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act of 2001 and sets forth the steps Zimbabwe needs to take to have targeted sanctions lifted.

Shallow Gappah Defends ED’s Useless Jaunts | OPINION

indepth…Wilbert Mukori

Wilbert Mukori | When it was reported that Ms Gappah, the Zimbabwean international law expert and author, organised President Emmerson Mnangagwa World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland; I thought she was being very naïve.

President Mnangagwa went to Davos to woo investors and financial institutions to return to Zimbabwe after two decades of shying away. “Zimbabwe is open for business!” President Mnangagwa told everyone who cared to listen.

“You said that you need to correct for the bad economic situation Zimbabwe found itself in,” he was asked in one of the interviews he gave in Davos. “You pointed to international isolation. You would acknowledge, would you not, that it was also bad decisions by the Zimbabwe government over many years?

“The government, the ruling part; of whom you had been a key figure for many years, in many role; that made those bad decision?”

“That is correct!” President Mnangagwa ready agreed but only to bring in the land issue in the next breath – proof President Mnangagwa and his Junta regime were not ready to acknowledge the truth about Zanu PF’s dictatorial tendencies much less abandon them!

Whilst President Mnangagwa was shrewd enough to acknowledge that Zanu PF needed to shed off its pariah-State imagine to attract foreign investors. It was also clear that he and his coup plotters were not prepared to give up the party’s dictatorial powers that had kept the regime in power since independence. That is why a Zimbabwean like Ms Gappah should have known President Mnangagwa and his Junta would not give up Zanu PF’s dictatorial powers, knowing these are the individuals who had been the heart and soul of the dictatorship all these years.

Soon after the November 2017 coup, President Mnangagwa went out of his way to promise that Zimbabwe would hold free, fair and credible elections. But that was lip-service to take the sting out of the reality of the coup.

The point is, there was really no point wasting time and money in wooing Western investors back to Zimbabwe when it was clear Zimbabwe was still being ruled by lawless thugs! It is therefore shocking that Ms Gappah should now be defending her decision to organise ED’s Davos jaunt.

“MDC is criticizing ED for necessary travel. How did they think the reengagement they proposed in their 2013 manifesto would work? Did they think Zim would be part of some global WhatsApp group? Is ED supposed to just retweet stuff from Munhumutapa and make lots of Facebook LOLs?” Ms Gappah twittered.

So even with the benefit of hindsight, Ms Petina Gappah still fails to recognise the ED regime as nothing more same pariah Zanu PF dictatorship or be it with a new leader. She is naïve but so naïve she cannot even realise that foreign investors are a very politically shrewd lot; they, alike her, were never fooled by such gimmicks as calling a coup a “military assisted transition!” Ms Gappah is not just naïve, she is one of those narrow minded people who are thick and slow!

“Sour Grapes” Obert Gutu In Chamisa Twitter Attack

As White City stadium overflows with MDC Alliance supporters, former MDC spokesman Obert Gutu takes to Twitter to throw a veiled attack against Advocate Nelson Chamisa.

All Doubt Removed As White City Stadium Overflows With Chamisa Support

By Paul Nyathi at White City Stadium | Bulawayo has all but endorsed MDC-T President Nelson Chamisa.

Contrary to perceptions that the highly poltically sensitive city was going to snub Chamisa in the wake of the split orchestrated by Bulawayo based former Deputy President Thokozani Khuphe thousands of people have filled up the stadium.

At midday when ZimEye.com got to the venue, the stadium was already full to capacity with about 30 000 people already in attendance two hours before Chamisa’s expected arrival.

The mood in the city is very vibrant with business nearly at halt in the area around the stadium.

ZimEye.com is following the events at the stadium and will be making updates as they unfold.

Mujuru Fumes Over Fake Mnangagwa China Deals

The People’s Rainbow Coalition (PRC) led by Dr. Joice Mujuru has castigated President Emmerson Mnangagwa for misrepresenting Memorandum of Understandings as closed business deals, to the people of Zimbabwe.

PRC spokesperson, Advocate Gift Nyandoro in a statement said, a memorandum of understanding is an intention of the need to work together between parties subject to execution of suggested requirements.

“PRC, being the government in waiting urges Zimbabweans not to be fooled and misled by the coup President ED Mnangagwa’s falsehoods and propaganda of having signed economic deals in China.

“The Kindergarten and exaggerated praises of ED’s China visits stands out as a classical demonstration of a military administration that lacks primary understanding of definition and meaning of what constitutes a memorandum of understanding.

“MoU is just a statement of wanting to work together between parties subject to fulfilling of suggested requirements. As such, it remains an intention and for a whole military cabal to celebrate the mere appending of a signature to a statement of intention to work together between China and Zimbabwe, would obviously be no different from allowing Satan to run away with a Christian bible from Christian pulpit,” said Advocate Nyandoro.

PRC advised the government to desist from celebrating futile mega deals, as there is nothing called ‘Free Lunch’ in this era.

He said,” ED needs to appreciate that, in this 21st century there is nothing called ‘Free Lunch’ and the military administration needs to desist from celebrating the so called mega deals, which are nothing but a desperate and hopeless walk into extreme borrowing without a backup plan of strategic retreat.”

“The so called China visit is a terrible tragic tale of a scarf man without a clue on how to rescue Zimbabwe from economic turmoil; to the extent that a coup President celebrates mentioning of remote possibilities, notwithstanding absence of tangible evidence to sustain such misplaced expectations for sudden economic recovery for our country.

“In the circumstances, ED and his military handlers need to understand that the country’s economic challenges are not resolved through a borrowing tendency without a backup plan to repay. That applies both to offshore and domestic date,” he added.

PRC said it is a shame that a country, which was once the bread basket of southern Africa, is now a basket case of non-mitigated begging of individual interests, and that citizens need to appreciate that the current military regime is completely clueless, on how to take the country forward.

Lately, Zimbabwe has been engaging the global community trying to lure investors, as the country has been shunned by investors, who since former President Robert Mugabe’s days, cited unpopular investment policies as the major reason for not fulfilling signed MoUs.

Zimbabwe and Belarus recently signed several deals worth millions of dollars across various economic sectors.www.statesman.co.zw

We Vote Using Our Brains Dear Misihairabwi-Mushonga and Never Pantie Politics Again!

by Nomazulu Thata| This is just gutter politics of the highest order! Gutter politics that is below the belt in the sense of the word. We cannot be told to vote for women just because they are women. We vote for people who have a credible track record of service delivery. We vote for men and women who have concerns about the plight of our citizens at heart. We vote for people who sell credible national policies and credible clear manifestos. All citizens are able to relate to those manifestos and deem them credible enough to vote for them. We cannot be told to stoop so low and vote for a woman just because she is a woman that is absolute stupid.

MPs Thokozani Khuphe and Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga are taking feminism too far. This politics of panties and female genitals is not real politics you can offer us women in Zimbabwe but third rate politics. This is the kind of politics that has destroyed this country by women themselves. This is the calibre of women we have in our political landscape. We need new names, said NoViolet Bulawayo. It makes us believe that if you constantly talk about women without pants, it will make them hard core feminists: our questions will be.  Did you use bottom power to enter politics? Why panties and female genital politics the time you start talking? Are you now trying to use bottom power again to re-invent yourselves yet again? No dear Khuphe and Mishihairabwi, we are going to use our brains to vote, we are going to use our upper part of the pale to vote the best candidates. We are going to vote for any credible politicians: men and women who have credible track record of public service delivery and not gender to determine our vote. That kind of politics is very cheap indeed and we are not buying it.

Nkosana was right when he said we have third rate politicians in our Zimbabwean politics and it is for this reason this country has gone to the dogs. In yesterday’s video Nkosana was articulating policies he is going to implement if he was chosen to be the top civil servant. So far he is the only person who has shown by word of mouth how he is going to tackle and turn around the economic situation in his country. Can Thokozani please do the same? You are both worlds apart with the policies Nkosana promises to implement when he gets to the office. I am coming home to vote, will not waste my vote to vote for a woman just because she is a woman, sorry. So far we do not know what Thokozani Khuphe economic blue print looks likes. She is busy fighting Chamisa without end but is not yes in the election mood at all. Can she tell us what she will do if she was elected as President of Zimbabwe apart from being a woman? Can she articulate her economic policies in the way Nkosana is doing to villagers in remote areas?

Khuphe should not hide behind the fact that she got outsmarted by little Chamisa. That should never be our problem at all. When she outsmarted Gibson Sibanda we never wept so loud because we thought that was politics at play. Curiously Khuphe thinks that they can ride behind Tsvangirai’s popularity and win a landslide majority of 2008. The times have changed. She should use this time not to talk gutter campaigns but should match Nkosana and other credible aspiring leaders in the political playground. To cry so loud using gender and tribal affiliation will not assist much because in Bulawayo and Matebeleland alone, Khuphe is no longer a preferred candidate, she was once upon a time one but not of resent times: she never delivered, times have changed.

This is the time Khuphe should have shown us how capable she is as a leader under such adversaries. A true leader worth of salt comes out brilliantly in such political challenges and rise above all gender and tribal inclinations. We do not buy her female fate alone to vote for her. However, we deeply sympathize with her humiliating experience she was subjected to during the funeral events of Tsvangirai’s passing on.

It is Khuphe’s abilities and capabilities to serve this country that will make us vote for her. We shall want to know how does her political blue print, her political manifesto that she is selling to the electorate look like. What we know is that MP Thokozani Khuphe has no track record of service delivery in those constituencies she was once supposed to serve. She tries to use gender and tribe and perhaps her doctorate degree as her own legitimacy to be the leader of MDC. What did she do tangibly for her region Mathebeleland that will still make us opt to vote for her than other capable leaders in the region? Her impressive face-look, her doeks, her beautiful wardrobe is not enough, but her abilities and capabilities of a politician who knows how to lead a political party and the potential to deliver public service.

To vote just for any woman because she is a woman is politics below the belt. What about those women who will be seeing their menstruation time: are they going to be denied to vote? You are risking 50% of women voters that day alone because you say that day women are supposed never to wear under panties according to your campaign tricks? How are they going to walk in the public during their menstrual days without proper dressing? Did she ever think about that as a woman? This kind of “panty” or “dirty pants” politics is a right off the mature thinking of any credible politician. It sounds more like a comedy than reality. Even feminists in mature developed democracies will laugh this as kindergarten politics not worthy of note: when they say Africans are stupid we cringe! But they are right. This “panty” politics is stupidity of the highest order.

*We vote for people who will take this country forward.* It is leadership qualities, ability, capacity, professionalism that puts bread and butter on the table of all Zimbabweans and not female genitals. This is stooping very low. This should never be supported by any right-thinking women of Zimbabwe. It could be that these women who tell us to vote without pants, and again lift up our dresses to check if indeed we have female genitals have nothing to lose anymore: morally and otherwise: some of them are just game-over in politics. I really think that these women who talk such rubbish must have entered politics using their female genitals: and it is for this reason that they use femaleness again to reinvent themselves. I am sorry about the “unaccepted” language upfront!

It could be that Thokozani Khuphe and Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga have given up their political careers. But for goodness-sake do not sink below the pale in trying to attract voters from women. Women in Zimbabwe do not think with their genitals but with their brains. Women who have gone for girl-initiation ceremonies should know what a female panty means. A female pant is very private. A female pant is the entire dignity of a woman that must not be spoken willy nilly at political rallies. That graphic demonstration of Mishihairabwi at a Trade-Union prayer meeting was unfortunate: A demonstration how women should enter the ballot box, and if she thinks she should vote for the man, she should lift up her skirt to check if she is male of female: Sure, Sure. It is as if to say we think with our female organs: when I see it once more, it will assist me to vote rightly: below the belt in the sense of the word. Did I not know that I am a woman ever since I was born?  A prayer meeting should not turn into shebeen night clubs where they show their clients their vaginal faces as proof that they are indeed women!!!!

Grace Mugabe Allies, Chipanga And Moyo Appear In Court

Former Finance Minister Ignatius Chombo and ex-Zanu-PF Youth League secretary Kudzanayi Chipanga yesterday appeared in court for their routine remand.

The duo, who appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Tilda Mazhande, was remanded to May 10. Chombo’s trial date could not be set as his docket is still pending at the Prosecutor-General’s Office.

The former senior Zanu-PF official is facing abuse of office charges from his time as Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing.

It the State’s case that Chombo allegedly connived with Psychology Chiwanga, Rejoice Pazvakavambwa, Iben Fransisco, James Chiyangwa, Theresa Chenjerayi, Elias Choto and Lazarus Chimba to forge documents used to transfer a Glen Lorne, Harare, property from the Harare City Council to Alois Chimeri.

The High Court granted Chombo $5 000 bail coupled with stringent conditions. Similarly, a trial date could also not be set for Chipanga, who is facing charges of making false statements and undermining public confidence in the military. He is on $500 bail.

Chombo and Chipanga are being represented by Professor Lovemore Madhuku.

“We Are Truly On The Road To Victory” – Chamisa

Nelson Chamisa

MDC-T President Adv. Nelson Chamisa’s remarks to the press

Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House, Harare, 5 April 2018

1.Introduction

Almost two months after the untimely death of the national legend and founding leader, the iconic President Morgan Richard Tsvangirai. Notwithstanding the sad loss of our leader, whom the country continues to mourn to this very day, the party remains a strong and formidable unit ready for the watershed polls due in a few months time.

We are a solid family of democrats that is growing stronger every day. Our footprints in all that we do have shown that we are sticklers to constitutionalism and the rule of law. We are the game changers, the movers and shifters.

As a party, we are proud social democrats that eschew the values of empathy, solidarity, tolerance, freedom and justice.

On the national scale, I remain touched by the people’s sorry predicament. The cash shortages persist and citizens are finding it hard to access their hard-earned cash. Unemployment continues to be a huge challenge while the few that are employed are finding it hard to survive due to inadequate remuneration.

Civil servants, including our hard working doctors and nurses are struggling to survive. The paltry salaries of just over $300 do not befit the dignity and status of civil servants who expend sweat and tears to keep our country running.

The national crisis is crying out for a new government that will truly respond to the needs of the people.

2. Redefining the narrative—April is Independence month

Indeed, we are a proud pan-African political formation whose broad mandate is to complete the unfinished business of the liberation of struggle.

It is in line with our character as a proud-African movement and pan-liberation movement that we have declared April the independence month.

For us, as a day is not enough to accord the befitting veneration to our liberation struggle in which so many of our patriotic sons and daughters paid the ultimate price.

April is therefore an independence month in which we will take part in many activities to celebrate our liberation struggle; the bloody and intractable struggle in which we shed blood to rid the country of oppression, subjugation and racism.

It is in line with that redefinition and rebranding that as a party, we will seek to play a prominent role in all national events including the country’s national Independence Day activities.

National days must be inclusive and must not continue to be arrogated or dominated by a single political party. It is demeaning of our independence to ascribe it to the sole efforts of a political party. It was a struggle by all Zimbabweans that must be celebrated by all.

As I have already said, under our leadership, we will set aside the whole month of April—and not just a single day—to the celebration of our uhuru.
April will indeed be an Independence month.

3.Election Preparedness
Within the context of independence, it is important to restate that the party remains strong and ready to participate in the forthcoming polls. Our liberation struggle was mainly about one-man-one-vote and we stand ready to participate in a truly free, fair and credible plebiscite.

To attest to our readiness, the party’s Elections directorate has received CVs from aspiring candidates who wish to stand in the local government and parliamentary polls. We have received a total of 3 911 CVs from aspiring candidates and this attests to the willingness of Zimbabweans to represent the party at both parliamentary and local government level.

Our preparation is well on course and in the next few weeks, we will have a complete panel of candidates that will represent the party at all levels.

We are determined to meet the 50 percent threshold for women and the 20 percent youth quota in line with the constitution and the resolutions of the supreme organs of the party.

3.1 Electoral reforms
Last month, we launched our Plan and Environment for a Credible Election (PEACE). That document has 10 key demands of what we want addressed if we are to have an undisputed election.

We will do all that is possible to ensure that Zimbabweans are given a chance to freely express their sovereign will in fair and credible poll.

Our 10 demands include, but are not limited to:

1.Independence of the Zimbabwean Electoral Commission (ZEC), including the independence and professionalization of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission Secretariat.

2.The creation of an authentic biometric voters’ roll properly audited and signed off by all stakeholders.

3.Full disclosure and transparency around the ballot paper, its technical status, its printing and its distribution thereof.

4.The complete de-securitisation of election institutions and the electoral process, incorporating the exclusion of Zimbabwe’s security sector from managing the incumbent ZANU PF’s election campaign.

5.Provision for Zimbabweans residing in the Diaspora to vote in the election.

6.Media reforms allowing for equal access to public media by all contenders in the election.

7.The enactment of major amendments to the Electoral Law and the repealing of restrictive laws such as: the Public Order Security Act (POSA); Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (AIPPA); and the Broadcasting Services Act (BSA).

8.Allowing entry of international monitors and supervisors at least 3 months before the 2018 election and provision for the United Nations to supervise the poll.

9.Absence of violence and intimidation before, during and after the election.

10. Political impartiality of traditional leaders, including abolition of politicized food aid in election campaigns.

Conclusion: The road to Victory (R2V)

As a party, we are ready to roll. We are fine-tuning our policy programme and our people’s manifesto that will truly respond to the challenges facing the despondent citizens of this nation.

We have rebranded and revamped this movement and in the next few weeks, we will be unveiling the detailed policy programmes of how we will rescue this country from the abyss.

We have done it before and we will do it again. Zimbabweans are under no illusion about the MDC’s capacity to govern, given our record during our stint of delivery between 20019 and 2013.

With our competent hands on the wheel of government, the future can only be bright for the people of Zimbabwe.

The party is ready; Zimbabweans are ready and they continue to show their confidence judging by their participation in the party’s activities. The region and the world are anxious for a truly new dispensation that delivers to the people.

We are truly on the road to victory.

I Thank You.

Chamisa A Dagga Smoking Political Toddler, Says Mujuru Chairman

Joice Mujuru

By Paul Nyathi

An overly excited Joice Mujuru led National People’s Party provincial chairman has come trailblazing on youthful MDC-T President Nelson Chamisa describing him as a political toddler who will not be voted for.

Speaking to a handful of his party members in Bindura over the Easter weekend, the Mashonaland Central chairman of the party Godwin Chimombe described Chamisa as a political toddler, who can not be compared to Mujuru.

“You can not compare Chamisa to Mujuru, he is still a political toddler who even failed to respect the constitution of his party and rushed himself to the leadership of the MDC-T,” said Chimombe.

Speaking in the presence of his party leader, Mujuru and other senior party leaders, Chimombe said Zimbabweans should not entrust Chamisa with the running of the country as he will disregard the country’s constitution.

He further castigated the young MDC-T leader claiming that young people can not be trusted to lead the country as they are intoxicated in drugs.

“How do you expect him to follow the Constitution of the country?” he said.

“He thinks the election can be won by youths, but the youths are intoxicated by dagga. Our election will be won by women.”

Chimombe is himself a former MDC-T youth leader. He left the MDC-T to join Mujuru’s party at its formation in 2015.

Mujuru has also previously castigated Chamisa also describing him as very immature and not a befitting replacement of the late MDC-T founding President Morgan Tsvangirai.

Mnangagwa Ready For Marriage, But … – Melasi

By Robson Melasi| All my life I never seen a girl who has matured and ready for marriage going from town to town telling men that she is ready for marriage.

A girl who is aware of her maturity and readiness will stay in her town, men will notice her, talk among themselves and come to ask for her hand in marriage.

If Zimbabwe is really open for business and ready why is our President going from country to country chasing after investors who seem to be running away with their money? Does that not show desperation? Like the example of the girl, men will suspect there is something wrong with her. I believe there is something wrong with our president. He has no confidence in his country to attract the investors.

Rush For Amacimbi Harvest, Chief Orders People Out Of His Area

Amacimbi or Mopane Worms In Kezi

CHIEF Nyangazonke of Maphisa in Kezi, Matobo District has warned people who are descending on his area in search of amacimbi to stay away or risk being charged at his court for looting a resource that belongs to locals.

Speaking in a telephone interview with the state owned Chronicle newspaper on Thursday, the chief said the mopani worm harvesters were also bathing and relieving themselves in or near rivers.

He said amacimbi are meant to augment locals’ food supply and to be sold to help communities pay for children’s school fees, among others.

“If there is anyone who is still in my area harvesting amacimbi and does not belong here, they should leave with immediate effect. If they cannot abide by our community rules, then they face arrest. Non-locals who are coming Nicodemously for our natural resource are not welcome. This is a natural resource that should be benefiting the community as a whole, especially in these tough economic times,” said the chief.

“Locals should harvest them in abundance and raise money for school fees, and for barter trade with other basic commodities. Most people in my community have serious challenges in paying fees and providing for their families. It is our gift from Mother Nature and locals should benefit. We never go to other areas for their gold or diamonds or whatever natural resource that they have, they should leave us alone with our food.”

The chief said the mopani worm harvesters were living in makeshift camps under squalid conditions that could prove to be a breeding ground for diseases.

“These people who have come to squat in our area are posing a major health risk to the community and livestock. They are defecating in the open, littering the bush with plastics and this is not good for our livestock. Our cattle now eat faeces and plastic and get sick and we have to foot the bills for veterinary treatment. They are bathing upstream in the rivers that we drink from,” he said.

Matobo District Administrator Mr Robert Muzezewa shared the chief’s sentiments.

He said the campers were cutting down trees indiscriminately, leading to massive deforestation in some parts of Matobo.

“People come to harvest worms and wild fruits and they don’t do it while considering conservation methods that the locals do. They just destroy and go because it is not their place. A lot of umnyi trees have been cut down by urbanites who do not consider that next year that tree would have borne more fruit.

They are also cutting down mopane trees for the worms that would be in higher branches; it’s just bad for the environment and is unfair to locals,” he said.

“Chinese Deal Will Secure Better Lives For All,” Says ED – Mean Secure Zanu PF Dictatorship

By Nomusa Garikai| “Let us remember where we were, and how we suffered as an isolated nation.

– zsdemocrats.blogspot.co.uk

Why Chamisa’s Wife Will Never Appear In Public With Nero At MDC Rallies

By Tadmore Yoga | Amid an ongoing heap of attacks and insinuations against MDC leader Nelson Chamisa, details have emerged on the reasons why Chamisa’s wife, Sithokozile, “does not play” an Auxillia Mnangagwa or a Grace Mugabe.

Nelson Chamisa and his wife, Sithokozile

ZANU PF youths have made a wild claim against Chamisa and saying that this is the reason why she does not appear in public with her husband like a normal First Lady would. According to (US) White House rules, the First Lady is supposed to accompany her husband on all public appearances and visits. The woman has to come out holding her husband’s hand and there is a particular way this is done. Without this, protocol is broken and humiliation follows. This is the way it is done in the United States, and in the next episode we shall look at how it is done in Zimbabwe.

Now coming to the real issue why Chamisa’s wife rarely appears in public with him: while the man himself has chosen not to speak, sources close to the MDC politician have told ZimEye.com Chamisa “will never be Barack Obama or Donald Trump.

“Did you not know she is a lawyer working for an NGO and her employer bars her from participating in politics?  Participating in the MDC as a First Lady the way Elizabeth used to, will render her jobless,” the highly placed source said.

Once Sithokozile pursues the First Lady job, she will need to fit the below criteria and she will have to work without a salary:

How did the role of first lady come to be?

According to Andrea Gonzaez, Martha Washington is considered to be the first “first lady,” but the term wasn’t used until after her death. Her main function was to play hostess for social events, and she set the standard for the subsequent first ladies.
The role has historically been reserved for the president’s spouse, but some first ladies have not been married to POTUS. Emily Donelson took over the hostessing duties during the presidency of her uncle Andrew Jackson, a widow. Harriet Lane did the same during the administration of James Buchanan, who never married.
However, our contemporary understanding of the role can be traced back to Eleanor Roosevelt, according to Dr. Katherine Jellison, chair of the history department at Ohio University, who has studied extensively the topic of first ladies.
During her time at the White House, Roosevelt expanded her duties beyond just being a hostess, spending her time working on social reform projects.
“She is the first first lady to have press conferences, she is the first first lady to have a significant number of staff working for her,” Jellinson said. “She is the one who made the role of first lady as high profile as it is today.”

What are some of the first lady’s responsibilities?

Contemporary first ladies are expected to perform public and ceremonial duties. While they’ve always hosted state dinners and other official events, now they also serve as surrogates to their husbands’ administrations, taking on particular social projects or causes.

Magava Commits Suicide, Shoots Self

…the late Magava

State Media- A man from Bulawayo committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with a pistol for yet unclear reasons.

Mr Dominic Magava (59), a divorcee who lived with his elderly mother in Woodville suburb, was found dead inside his car yesterday morning.

Relatives suspect he shot himself on Thursday at around 8PM. Mr Magava’s younger brother discovered the body and alerted the police.

He allegedly shot himself under the chin and the bullet went through his head, damaging the skull in the process.

Bulawayo Metropolitan province police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango confirmed the incident.

“I can confirm that we received a report of sudden death by shooting of a 59-year-old man. The deceased was seen by his younger brother seated on the driver’s side of his car and there was a revolver in between his thighs.

“The deceased had gunshot wounds on the chin and head and as police we are still investigating so that we are able to establish circumstances leading to his death,” she said.

The revolver believed to have been used in committing the alleged suicide was registered under Mr Magava’s name.

Insp Simango said the body was taken to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) for a postmortem.

MNANGAGWA FULL TEXT: Why I’m Flying Over-Seas

By Emmerson Mnangagwa| Today, I conclude my first state visit outside of Africa, an historic visit which will help bring further crucial momentum to our economy.

We had many fruitful discussions with political and business leaders in China, including President Xi Jinping, and secured a host of deals which will make a real difference to the lives of Zimbabweans.

The refurbishment of Hwange Power Station Units 7 and 8 is set to increase power generation by 600 megawatts, while we also secured a massive infrastructure development deal under which the world’s largest infrastructure development company will set up a regional office in Zimbabwe. They will focus on road, rail, air and dam construction projects and will be true partners in the development of the new Zimbabwe.

Our two countries also signed numerous agreements to advance areas of economic cooperation, skills development, education and other facets of the economy.

I have seen some comments here asking why these foreign trips are necessary at this time. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and I appreciate your opinions.

Let us remember where we were, and how we suffered as an isolated nation. In this new era Zimbabwe is open to the world, and governments, businesses and individuals all are looking to do business with us. The new Zimbabwe must embrace the international community in order to secure crucial foreign investment. These projects will create jobs, and foreign investment will inject crucial cash into our economy.

I will therefore continue to work tirelessly for the people of Zimbabwe both at home and abroad, as we embark on this new and exciting journey together.

May you all have a blessed weekend.

EU Sanctions On Makandiwa, Magaya Needed

–       New type of deadly Religious Extremism.

–       Sponsored cancerous culture

       Discovering the real Mugabe.

–       Even after 6 Presidential changes…doom

New type of deadly Religious Extremism

With Emmanuel Makandiwa, declaring that he is above the judiciary and evidence emerging that Walter Magaya has paid more than $100,000 to subvert the course of justice, it has become clear that the principal tyrants of the Zimbabwean community who are arguably Spiritist Prophets commanding churches, are responsible for the cancerous culture of moral retrogression and these people are the chief sponsors of the political chaos. Through deception and the criminal pillars they have erected, they manipulate the people’s poverty (material and ideological) and suffering while directly sponsoring ruling politicians, as the world faces a new type of deadly Religious Extremism in which masses for instance are forced to eat poison as a religious ritual.

They are also responsible for destroying industry, severely marring government economics to facilitate their occult business and there are several examples of collapsed industries directly linked to these Preachers.

These people who are a handful of mainly male occult leaders, will continue to destroy Zimbabwe and even the rest of Africa unless their acts are put to a stop now. In our position is also evidence of global criminal activities they are involved in which include money laundering, card crime, the endangering (even killing) of people en masse, and the trapping of millions of citizens under a state of terror and self defeat. This way, tyrants continue to thrive as people are made to act more like irrational animals and real humanity caused to dissipate.

In one video at a conference, for instance, a Zimbabwean preacher, Makandiwa’s personal friend (Uebert Angel) is seen instructing citizens to manipulate cash machines “so that God can bless them,” literally. Unless this is stopped, Zimbabwe will not progress. The global community cannot continue to ignore the perverse violation of human rights.

Surely the European Union and other international bodies cannot look away or ignore the glaring evidence before them of masses of people (millions) who are being violated by these greedy men (they are all named and documented) and being reduced to brainwashed “cabbage citizens.” They must be stopped and our proposals are that punitive measures, travel and economic restrictions be effected on them until they stop these acts.

Elections & Presidential succession

Zimbabwe’s problems are deeper than petty politics, (they are all to do with a  sponsored cancerous culture). This is the reason why the EU needs to start looking at curbing in particular the criminal pillars erected by these religious occult leaders who currently serve to perpetuate the corrupt politicians – they are essentially the politicians’ virtual army base.

Even after 6 Presidential changes… doom

Unless something is done, Zimbabwe’s chaos will continue, and to illustrate these observations, a case study can be drawn from Zimbabwe’s neighbour, Zambia whose people and culture are tightly related to Zimbabwe. There is a lot of proof showing that Zambia in many respects is still as worse as it was under its founder (a Robert Mugabe age -mate), Kenneth Kaunda 30 years ago.

6 Presidential changes from Kaunda, the country is still struggling in its fibre of morality. There is evidence to show that Zambia’s latest elections were rigged and much of this filmed on camera. 27 years after Kaunda quit politics, Edgar Lungu’s ballot figures were found inflated and in one case the government’s election manager on LIVE television announced results with a straight 29,000 figure inflation stashed inside superseding the total absolute number of voters in one constituency.

This strongly suggests that Zimbabwe’s progress will not happen until and unless the real Mugabe, not the person, but the concept/spirit is dealt with once and for all. The real Mugabe is the Religious Occult leadership whose tyranny and notoriety continue, and it is convincing that these issues once addressed, will enable us to fix Zimbabwe in less than 2 months’ time. – EDITORIAL OPINION

Prophets Banned On National Television, ZBC

By A Correspondent| The national broadcaster, ZBC has banned all programming covering “prosperity and miracle prophets.”

In this first of firsts, ZBC says it has taken in complaints from the community. For years miracle prophets have milked the public using advertorials which have sparked public outrage particularly after ZimEye.com exposed fat belly healing claims by spiritist preacher Emmanuel Makandiwa.

The latest development on this phenomenon has seen Emmanuel Makandiwa making claims that he does not answer to the courts. This was on a case in which Makandiwa is being sued for fraud.

A sitting High Court judge ended up issuing a verdict against Makandiwa declaring that, “every person is fallible. No one is …. immune to making mistakes.” SEE BELOW

The latest report covered by the Daily News notes that there has been an unprecedented coverage of prophets at the expense of news, sports, business, entertainment and other programming.

ZBC acting head of Radio Services Albert Chekayi confirmed the public broadcaster had halted prophets’ programmes to assess if they were not infringing on the rights of their diverse audience.

Chekayi said once the process is complete, the broadcaster will re-engage those whose programmes would have been affected.

The ZBC operates four radio stations and one television station.

“What has happened is we have temporarily suspended the programmes to allow us to have a re-look considering the many complaints that we have received from the public who are the owners of the radio stations since we are a public broadcaster,” Chekayi said.

“This decision was taken by us… as we are answerable to the listeners. Remember, a public broadcaster does not just target profits but the interests of those who pay licences. Once the process is complete, it will inform us what steps to take.

“Remember, Zimbabwe is a country that upholds freedom of religion but guided by the Bill of Rights in our Constitution the freedoms one enjoys do not need to infringe on the rights of other citizens.

“So, as a public broadcaster, we have the balancing role of ensuring that no section of the country’s population is offended by the content we broadcast,” he added.

Recently, head of the European Union (EU) delegation in Zimbabwe, Ambassador Philippe Van Damme, said he was amazed with the over population of prophets in this country.

“In biblical tradition in the bible in the Old Testament you have quite some prophets but never with the density as in this country,” he said.

“I observe the sociological phenomenon from where I can observe them and my observations lead me to conclude ‘as you have fake news you have fake prophets’ driven by commercial interests,” he said.

This comes as Star FM listeners continue to complain about a glut of prophet adverts, with listeners taking to social media to vent their frustration.

Man Dies After Cholera Attack

By Talent Gondo | A 46 year old man has died from cholera in Stoneridge, Harare, the Harare City Council (HCC) ZimEye can reveal.

Michael Chideme, Harare City Council Corporate Communications Manager confirmed the death adding that the local authority was making frantic efforts to curb the spread of the disease.

“A 46 year old man died in Stoneridge but we are making frantic efforts to trace all those whom we think may have been in contact with the deceased,” said Chideme.

He revealed that council had deployed water bousers to Stoneridge while at the same time setting up emergency mobile clinics so that residents have easy and quick access to health services.

“We have set up emergency tents so that anyone with suspected cholera symptoms can be screened,” said Chideme.

Commenting about the cholera death on their website, HCC said Stoneridge is an illegal settlement.

“Council has been making frantic efforts to bring sanity in the area without much success because illegal settlers there have been resisting,” said the HCC.

“Council has always argued against illegal settlement because of the problems they present such as the spread of diseases.”

Caused by the bacterium called vibrio cholerae, the disease leads to dehydration and even death if untreated.

It is spread by eating food or drinking water contaminated with the cholera bacterium.

Grace Mugabe Plots Coup Against Mutinhiri | Report

Former First Lady Grace Mugabe is suspected to be plotting a coup against the National Patriotic Front (NPF) leader Rtd brigadier Ambrose Mutinhiri.

A few weeks ago Mutinhiri, a former Marondera West legislator, dumped Zanu PF after being appointed NPF interim president, with the backing of former President Robert Mugabe and members of the G40.

The local Daily News quotes well-placed sources saying there were already serious ructions within the political outfit, with Mugabe’s wife Grace and a few of the former Zanu PF bigwigs who are linked to the new party apparently now saying Mutinhiri lacked both the capacity and the energy to go toe to toe with the ruling party and the MDC Alliance in this year’s national elections.

However, sympathisers of the former securocrat and Mashonaland East provincial minister leapt to his defence yesterday saying he had been “set up to fail” when he was surprisingly catapulted to the leadership of the party.

“There is war inside the party, with Grace and her close former G40 kingpins now pushing for Mutinhiri’s ouster, claiming that he is incompetent and that she (Grace) is better qualified and placed to lead the party into this year’s elections.

“I really sympathise with Mutinhiri, as looking at the issue in retrospect it’s now clear that he was set up to fail, as NPF only exists on paper with neither a structure nor followers.

“It is also clear now that he was used, just like what Grace and the G40 kingpins did to poor (former Cabinet minister Sydney) Sekeramayi whose name they expediently threw into the Zanu PF succession mix last year when they in fact wanted Grace to succeed Mugabe,” one of the insiders said.

This comes as the NPF was due to announce its full team in the run-up to Easter, but inexplicably failed to do so — although it was not immediately clear whether this was linked to the emerging differences.

However, NPF spokesperson Jealousy Mawarire accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government of peddling falsehoods against the party.“I have not heard any complaints about … Mutinhiri’s leadership and therefore cannot comment on falsehoods planted by the junta to elicit information about our party.

“We have all our feet on the ground and our hands on the wheel. We will shake the regime in a big way and will certainly save our people from the shackles put on them on November 15, 2017.

“We will send Mnangagwa and his fellow coup organisers out of government through the harmonised elections this year,” Mawarire said.

The NPF spokesperson also said they had deferred releasing their list of the party’s leadership after learning of the intelligence community’s “machinations” — which he claimed had been foiled by their delay.

“We know the junta has been desperate for that list, and has tried to come up with its own list of our leadership and we are enjoying the desperation and panic shown by this illegal regime.

“We are strategic in our planning and the execution of our strategy. We are a party formed in the midst of a coup and operating in a country under a military junta, hence it will be both unprofessional and unstrategic for me, or any organ of the party for that matter to lay bare our strategy to our opponents.

“We have clear plans and processes that we are following which will culminate in the unveiling of the full complement of our leadership and the portfolios they are occupying. This process and related events are determined by our party, not the junta or its agents,” Mawarire told the Daily News.

The NPF, whose interim leader Mutinhiri abruptly resigned from Zanu PF, was said to be Mugabe’s antidote to Mnangagwa and the ruling party, following the nonagenarian’s stunning fall from power last November.

Mugabe has surprised both authorities and ordinary Zimbabweans alike in recent weeks by re-entering the political arena, and holding several meetings with opposition leaders — including openly lending his support to the NPF. The NPF has since revealed that Mugabe has endorsed the party, after he met Mutinhiri at his “Blue Roof” mansion in Harare, although it denies that the 94-year-old has a formal role in its activities.

Political analysts also told the Daily News yesterday that Mutinhiri lacked both the charisma and the popularity that was required to win against Zanu PF and the MDC Alliance.

“I would agree with those saying he is not popular enough. He is actually a big unknown and I don’t think he will leave a mark at the elections, especially given his links to the G40 and former first lady Grace Mugabe.

“It (NPF) was meant to be a spoiler but not a very big spoiler. I don’t think it would have sufficient time to craft its message, build and consolidate its structures before the elections.

“It doesn’t have any chance to make any big difference on the outcome of the elections,” Eldred Masunungure, a respected University of Zimbabwe political science lecturer, said.

Another political analyst, Tawanda Zinyama, concurred with Masunungure saying both Mutinhiri and the NPF would be a “hard sell” to the discerning Zimbabwean electorate.

“I don’t think it (NPF) will be sellable to the electorate. The characters are not known and Zimbabwean politics is about personalities. The association of the party with former president Mugabe also undermines its credibility,” Zinyama said.”

“Any party formed on the basis of an agenda other than to serve people is bound to suffer a stillbirth as the demons of power contestations will manifest as soon as possible.

“Other than expressing unhappiness with the manner of Mugabe’s removal, I have not heard what else NPF represents,” another analyst, Rashweat Mukundu, said.

When it emerged last month that Grace was facing a probe over her alleged dealings in illegal ivory trade, the NPF leapt to the defence of the former first family, and accused Mnangagwa of harassing the Mugabes.

“If Zimbabwe is open for business, it should be open to political business. Hence, people — regardless of their past positions in government — should be allowed freedom of association, choice and expression.

“These rights are fundamental to the freeness and fairness of the forthcoming election, and we hope ED goes beyond his mantra of a free election and acquaints himself with the Sadc guidelines and principles governing democratic elections in the region.

“These are very clear on what constitutes a free and fair election and we believe he should leave … Mugabe and his family to freely participate in the next elections if they so wish, because it’s their constitutional right to do so … we have engaged regional powers to look into the matter of Mugabe,” Mawarire said then after the NPF had written letters to regional leaders to protect Mugabe from the nonagenarian’s alleged political harassment.

“If you ignore this … you will ignore the Constitution of Zimbabwe, history and your responsibilities and obligations as Sadc, and the consequences will be too ghastly for everyone concerned, in Zimbabwe and in Sadc and the African Union,” the NPF added then.

Mugabe’s 37 uninterrupted years in power were brought to an inglorious end when the military launched Operation Restore Legacy on November 15 last year, which saw the nonagenarian and his then influential wife being placed under house arrest. Several Cabinet ministers linked to Zanu PF’s vanquished G40 faction, who had coalesced around Grace, were also targeted in the operation which ended just before Christmas — with the military only retreating back to their barracks after five weeks of executing the operation. The annihilated G40, with the visible help of Mugabe and Grace, was — before the military intervention — locked in a bitter war with Mnangagwa and his supporters for control of both Zanu PF and the government.

Chiwenga Meets Namibian Envoy

Namibia has described the political transition in Zimbabwe as the best in SADC and beyond.

This comes as more countries are coming to partner Zimbabwe in various economic activities.

The new government of Zimbabwe has opened doors to other countries willing to invest in the country, a development which has opened the floodgates of potential investors.

The development has given hope to Zimbabweans whose policies over the years have been scaring away potential investors.

After paying a courtesy call on Acting President Retired General Constantino Chiwenga, the Namibian representative in Zimbabwe Ambassador Balbina Daes Pienaar revealed that her country is happy with the developments in Zimbabwe and is willing to strengthen the already existing relations.

Ambassador Pienaar said Zimbabwe and Namibia can further explore bilateral relations in agriculture, education, mining and tourism among other areas.- state media

VP Mohadi, CIO Boss, Chinamasa, Chihuri In Trouble Over Missing $15bn

By Talent Gondo | The Mines and Energy portfolio committee has summoned Vice President Kembo Mohadi, Central Intelligent Organisation (CIO) boss Isaac Moyo, Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa and several other individuals and organisations over the missing USD 15 billion.

These people and organisations have been summoned to present oral evidence before parliament as the hunt for the missing USD 15 billion diamond money intensifies.

The committee chaired by Norton’s Independent legislator Temba Mliswa revealed that ZIMRA Commissioner General Faith Mazani, ZDC Chairperson and businessman, Lovemore Kurotwi, Former ZRP Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri and the current ZRP boss Godwin Matanga, Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Permanent Secretary Francis Gudyanga and Willard Manungo the Permanent Secretary in the Finance and Economic Planning ministry will also give their oral evidence before the portfolio committee.

ZMDC, ZCDC and MMCZ management and their board members have also been summoned before parliament on April 9 2018.

Former Finance Minister Tendai Biti has already tendered an apology indicating he will not be able to attend the session.

The parliamentary oral evidence hearings follows revelations by the former President Robert Mugabe, that Zimbabwe lost over USD 15 billion in diamond revenue through massive looting by mining firms and individuals.

Speaking to the ZBC on the occasion of his 92nd birthday, Mugabe stunned the nation when he said the country had been fleeced of over USD15 billion diamond money.

Mliswa is however on record that parliament is not on a witch hunt but was in the process of “seeking answers to the allegations by Mugabe”.

Sikhala Secures The Release Of Arrested MDC Official, The Rest Remain In Police Custody

Staff Reporter | Lawyer Job Wiwa Sikhala has secured the release of Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), District Youth Chairman Victory Mufambirwi, from St. Marys Police station after he was arrested earlier this afternoon.

The vocal lawyer and MDC politician said Mufambirwi and others were arrested after riot police came to Zengeza 2 Shops this afternoon,” looking for MDC people accusing them of having taken part in the Chitrest demonstration that took place few days ago.”

“They have however refused to release the trio of Bonanza, Julius Marambakutongwa and Serio Billiard,” explained Sikhala while still at St Marys police station.

Sikhala also explained that, “Some culprits at Zengeza 2 started to identify our party cadres who were going about their business at Zengeza 2 and rounded them off accusing them of having been the ones who participated in the demonstration.”

Senior Govt Official Fights Over Condom Use With Wife

Terrence Mawawa, Gutu | A senior government official severely assaulted his wife for refusing to have unprotected sexual intercourse with him last Friday.

According to court records, Memory Potera is a Provincial Veterinary Officer based in Gwanda and his wife, Letween Chimbi, is a teacher at Mupandawana High School in Gutu.

“Potera wanted to have unprotected sexual intercourse with his wife but the latter declined.

This angered Potera who assaulted his wife with clenched fists,” read the State outline.

However, Potera claimed a strange man knocked at the house and vanished when he realised that Chimbi’ s husband was around.

Gutu Magistrate Edwin Marecha sentenced Potera to three months in prison with the option of paying $ 150 fine.

Zvirekwi Bounces Back

The influential player had to be amputated on his left wrist as it was badly injured.

Zvirekwi ran 10 laps before fitness trainer Majaha Ndlovu took him through some drills.

The club announced the development in a post on Facebook yesterday.

” Hardlife Zvirekwi graced the training ground today (yesterday) and did light training,” read the brief statement.

CHINA JAUNT: Mnangagwa Returns Empty Handed

President Emmerson Mnangagwa returns home from China tomorrow without the US$1,5 billion liquidity rescue package, which government desperately needs, although he managed to secure funding for infrastructural projects and elevated relations between the two countries to a higher strategic level.

Sources close to the Chinese embassy said during his visit, Mnangagwa clearly learnt that China is not the proverbial Santa Claus and that everything which Zimbabwe gets must be on the basis of commercial arrangement and sustained strategic engagement for mutual benefit.

However, Mnangagwa’s bag was not completely empty when he left as he received the usual gifts given to visiting African heads of state by China. Although it is not clear how much he got, China usually gives out a token of between US$20-30 million to visiting African leaders, which they are free to use at their discretion.

On top of Mnangagwa’s agenda on his visit was the financial bailout. This comes at a time government is desperate for funds to ease the liquidity crunch and cash shortages gripping the economy.

Mnangagwa also wanted acceptance and to legitimise his leadership, as well as to cement international relations. This was Mnangagwa’s first state visit outside Africa since seizing power in November last year through a military coup.

Government has always considered China as its “all-weather friend”. The relationship dates back to the liberation struggle, where the Asian nation assisted Zimbabwe with weapons and provided training to many cadres, including Mnangagwa.

Moreover, in 2008 China defended Zimbabwe at the United Nations (UN) Security Council when some members of the UN wanted sanctions to be imposed on the country.

Mnangagwa arrived in China on Monday. A grand welcome ceremony, where he received a 21-gun salute and inspected a guard of honour, was held for him on Tuesday.

He held talks with Chinese president Xi Jinping for one-and-a-half hours, where the two presidents discussed economic, political, cultural issues and people-to-people exchanges, among other topics.
Mnangagwa and Xi agreed to elevate relations from being “all-weather friends” to comprehensive strategic level, meaning the relations will have a strategic dimension going forward. Mnangagwa also met Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and chairman of the National People’s Congress Li Zhanslu.

On the rescue package and Zimbabwe’s economic problems, Chinese leaders pledged their support, although they could not avail a rescue package.

“Frankly speaking, no one will do it (provide a rescue package) now. What China can do is try its best to assist. That is the promise,” a Beijing source said.

“Zimbabwe’s difficulties cannot be resolved within a day and only the Zimbabwean government can solve the problems. If you have good policies, good environment, fix issues to do with the ease of doing business, develop and tap your national resources, you will have foreign currency flowing in.

“I must say, we are very happy with the direction the government is taking. We are pleased with amendments to the Indigenisation Act and efforts to have a one-stop investment office.”
Sources said that Zimbabwe is seeking liquidity support from China and talks were underway over the matter.

Mnangagwa sent Finance minister Patrick Chinamasa and Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor John Mangudya to Beijing to engage the Chinese authorities over the matter.

“Negotiations are still going on. They engaged the China Industrial and Commercial Bank and China Exim Bank. They will hold more discussions to see whether China can assist in terms of what Zimbabwe asked for, which is the liquidity bailout. If it materialises, then Zimbabwe may get some liquidity support,” the source said.

On a positive note for Mnangagwa, he managed to secure project funding for the refurbishment of Hwange Power Station’s units 7 and 8, as well as the Robert Mugabe International Airport.
The initial agreement for the Hwange Power Station deal was signed in August 2014 when former president Robert Mugabe visited the world’s second largest economy.
China agreed to extend loans to Zimbabwe, amounting to over US$1,1 billion for the expansion of the power station.

However, insurance firm Sinosure refused to guarantee loans from Chinese banks to Zimbabwean companies including a loan meant for the expansion of the power station because of the government’s failure to repay arrears already owed to China.

Former Chinese ambassador Lin Lin, who left Zimbabwe in 2016, in an interview with the Independent, warned of the possibility of Sinosure refusing to guarantee new loans.

“For any new projects, which need more loans from the Chinese side, we should also consider the capability of the Zimbabwean side. The banks and even insurance companies have their own terms for providing or giving guarantees for any lines of credit, so it needs goodwill and good understanding on both sides. I hope there will be more co-operation and more projects with the help of Chinese institutions,” said Lin at the time.

The impasse has persisted because Zimbabwe still owes US$160 million to China Exim Bank and Sinosure.

Sources close to the Chinese government explained why funds will be released for the Hwange Power Station and the Robert Mugabe International Airport, despite Zimbabwe’s poor loan repayment record.

“In the past we discussed arrears and why the Chinese banks have been reluctant to release funds. However, this time around, the Chinese took into consideration the concerns of Zimbabweans,” said an official.

“It is said that China and Zimbabwe have made special agreements on the Hwange thermal project and the Robert Mugabe International airport. It’s a very special arrangement and a good gesture. However, payment for the loans extended to Zimbabwe are still expected to be paid and the China wants Zimbabwe to respect its end of the bargain.”

To boost trade, investment and tourism arrivals into Zimbabwe, the two governments agreed that, going forward, Chinese nationals will not require to apply for visas before coming to Zimbabwe.
“As you know there have been a few tourists in Zimbabwe who are Chinese nationals unlike in countries such as Kenya and Mauritius. This is because of the stringent conditions on the issues of getting the visa. However, from now on, the Chinese nationals will now get their visas at the airport,” a diplomatic source said.

Mnangagwa, who held an investment conference in Beijing, will today host a similar event in Hangzhou before flying out of the Asian country at night. He is expected in Zimbabwe tomorrow. Zimbabwe Independent

Furore Over Bosso New Kit

Highlanders FC’s new kit has finally arrived from China amid mixed sentiments from the club’ s diehard supporters.

The kit bears a black and white stripe design much to the chagrin of Bosso fans who feel the jerseys do not depict the club’ s traditional identity.

The home jersey has two white and three black stripes on the front.

The black stripes have a thin line running in the middle. The club’s logo is on the
top right side while the sponsors’ tag, OneFusion runs across the shirts inscribed in orange and black colours.

On the top left side, is the technical sponsors’ label.

Unlike the old Adidas kit, the top has a round neck with a darker black colour.

The away kit takes an all-white theme, with black stripes on the sleeves.

People from Harare, Bulawayo, Mutare and Masvingo have flooded our area so we will impose some regulations very soon,” said Village Mandla Khumalo.

Court Orders Police To Escort Demonstrators

By Talent Gondo

A Harare Magistrate, Lanzini Ncube has ordered the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to provide escort and security to participants of the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) peaceful demonstration for electoral reforms.

Magistrate Ncube, set aside a prohibition order which had been issued by ZRP stopping CiZC from holding a public procession in Harare to demand the implementation of electoral reforms and issue petitions to both government and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

In a press statement issued today by the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), the court ordered CiCZ to go ahead with their public procession on Wednesday 11 April 2018.

“The ZRP should provide escort and security to participants of the public procession and members of the general public,” ordered the court.

“The ZRP should also ensure free movement of human and vehicular traffic.”

The ruling follows a ZLHR challenge over the ZRP’S prohibition of CiCZ’s public procession to demand implementation of electoral reforms.

Through the ZLHR, the CiZC hauled the ZRP to court seeking an order to stop the law enforcement agency from interfering with a demonstration which was held on Thursday 05 April 2018.

The ZRP, through Chief Superintendent Ncube, the Officer Commanding Harare Central District, barred CiZC from marching from the central business district to the offices of the ZEC, where the coalition intended to hand over a petition to the election management body and to Parliament, demanding the speedy implementation of electoral reforms.

In a letter written to CiZC Acting Director Thulani Mswelanto, Chief Superintendent Ncube said CiZC should shelve the march because “violations of other road users’ freedoms are highly likely during the march” and that the flow of traffic along the proposed route will be “highly disturbed”.

Chief Superintendent Ncube said CiZC could only gather at Africa Unity Square from 1000hrs to 1200hrs from where the civil society organisation could then hand over its petition to Parliament.

This prompted CiZC to engage the ZLHR who filed an exparte application at Harare Magistrates Court, which was heard early on Thursday 05 April 2018.

In the application filed on Wednesday 04 April 2018, human rights lawyer Noble Chinhanu of ZLHR, argued that the conditions and amendments set by Chief Superintendent Ncube of confining the protesters to Africa Unity Square only, takes away the right of CiZC to hold a procession.

Chinhanu argued that the decision by Chief Superintendent Ncube was made without inviting CiZC representatives to a consultative meeting to explore options to prevent any threat if any and to allow the coalition to proceed with its march.

I Sell Mbanje To Support Vulnerable Children, Man Tells Court

Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo

A local magistrate has dismissed claims by a Zaka man that he sells mbanje to raise money to support vulnerable children.

Taruvinga Chavingira(68) of Chapfuwa Village in Zaka appeared before Masvingo Magistrate Peter Madiba on Wednesday facing charges of growing and selling the dangerous drug.

Chavingira pleaded guilty to the charges and asked for clemency from the court.

“My Lord I grow and sell mbanje to raise money to take care of orphans and vulnerable children in my home area,” said Chavingira in mitigation.

Magistrate Madiba however dismissed Chavingira’ s argument and sentenced him to three years in prison.

“Not only are you growing a dangerous drug but the plant is not under the Command Agriculture Programme as well,” said Magistrate Madiba.

Vote Buying Allegations As ZANU PF Chefs Go For Primaries

Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo | Zanu PF fat cats are alleged to be dangling cash in a bid to buy loyalty ahead of the party’s primary polls.

Party insiders disclosed that the primary elections, set for May 5, would be characterised by the battle of the pockets.

Business tycoon and former Confederation of Zimbabwe Industry (CZI) president Calisto Jokonya will take on Jonathan Wutawawunashe in the battle to represent the party in Gutu South Constituency.

Higher Education Minister, Amon Murwira is eyeing Gutu North Constituency while former Mimosa Mining Company boss Winston Chitando is hoping to land the Gutu District Senatorial Post.

Masvingo State Minister Josaya Hungwe’ s stranglehold on the Chivi Mwenezi Senatorial Seat is likely to come to an end as he faces stiff competition from a businesswoman in the same area.

“We are in the process of collecting CVs from aspiring candidates and we will then proceed to the next stage, ” said Zanu PF Provincial Chairperson Ezra Chadzamira.

What Were Mnangagwa And SB Moyo’s Sons Doing With The Zim Delegation In China?

Ray Nkosi | There has been a social media uproar over the presence of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Sibusiso Moyo’s sons in China.

In what social media critics described as ‘Babies Day Out’ the two boys were pictured together with their friends with the Zimbabwe delegation in China, bringing back memories of the former President Robert Mugabe and his family abusing such trips for selfish ends.

Zanu PF politician Nick Mangwana has attempted to explain what really was going on.

Regarding Minister SB Moyo’s son and Collins Mnangagwa, it is my understanding that the 2 live in China and naturally they went to meet up with their parents. They did not fly with their parents on taxpayers’ tab.

Poverty Hit Zanu PF MPs Fail To Raise US$600 “Subscription Fees”

Poverty hit Zanu PF MPs are reported to be sweating to raise US$600 ‘subscription fees’ for party membership over the past five years.

The legislators are reported to have cited  “financial challenges due to the current economic problems characterised by a chronic liquidity crunch and cash shortages.”

The weekily Independent quotes potential candidates saying; “We had just come from submitting our CVs (curriculum vitae) at Davies Hall (Zanu PF Bulawayo provincial offices), but we were shocked to be told that we have to pay US$600 each for the last five years or we will not be able to contest in the party’s primaries,” one MP complained. “Should this happen, we will be unable to seek re-election in our constituencies during the forthcoming general elections.”

Another legislator said the move was unacceptable, as this now amounted to a ploy by the provincial leadership to elbow them out of their seats, so as to impose preferred candidates or those with money.
Zanu PF is expected to fight for its parliamentary dominance against a resurgent MDC Alliance and motley groupings of fringe political parties involved in the polls.

“This is a very clear strategy of exclusion,” the MP said.
“They want us to fail to pay so that they can they put their own people in our constituencies. They know that most of us are unable to pay such amounts and they see this as an opportunity to sneak in their friends and allies.”

Checks by the Independent showed that most of the legislators were relying on parliamentary allowances for their sustenance. Some of them have no independent means of survival, making the allowances their only source of livelihood.

“If you check, most of these MPs are unemployed. Some of them are retired; others are ex-liberation fighters. They have been relying on parliamentary allowances to sustain their lives and families. Now if you ask them to pay US$600, they can’t afford that,” a senior Zanu PF official in Bulawayo said.
“The party’s commissariat needs to carefully look at this issue and resolve it otherwise the party will lose elections here because of these electoral barriers and effectively imposed or moneyed candidates.”

In an interview yesterday, Zanu PF Bulawayo provincial secretary for administration, Elphas Mashaba, said the money being demanded from the legislators was not exclusively from them alone but all party members. He added the money was part of a systems re-introduction programme at the party.

“It is funny that some people see this as a ploy to exclude them from their seats,” Mashaba said.
“What we have done as a party is that we have said in Bulawayo, for instance, we need to put in place administrative systems. These are necessary systems for the functionality of the party.

“Part of the systems require that members update their membership. For all general members, for example, one is expected to pay one dollar per month, which is US$12 a year, hence US$60 for the last five years.

“For other senior provincial members, those in the politburo and central committee members, the monies differ according to the different levels and positions one occupies; that is how we get US$600, which covers the last five years.”

Mashaba said payment of subscription fees by party members was a show of commitment to the party. He said those that would have failed to pay the subscriptions would be dealt with according to the party’s laid down procedures.

“We have a circular from the party’s commissariat which deals with these issues. Anyone who fails to pay will have to be dealt with through provisions in the circular.

Disqualification of any candidate on the basis of failing to pay his or her subscription is something that we will have to look at as a party, but in line with the dictates of the circular from the administration department.

Chamisa Demands Investigation Into Soldier Deployment In Rural Areas

MDC president Nelson Chamisa is disgusted by the deployment of soldiers in the rural areas, challenging the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) to investigate and deal with the matter.

The local Daily News reports that this comes after a former army brigadier, Ambrose Mutinhiri, who quit Zanu PF last month  to protest the removal of former president Robert Mugabe, claimed that at least 5 000 soldiers have been deployed to rural areas ahead of elections in July. The army has refused to comment on the allegations.

Addressing journalists at the party headquarters, Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House  in the capital, the MDC Alliance presidential candidate said both his party and  the ruling Zanu PF supporters were reporting that members of the military were demanding voter registration slip serial numbers.

“I can confirm to you that we are receiving reports of people who are probably masquerading as the army and most of them are under what are called champion farmers while some are called commissars,” Chamisa told reporters.

He also alleged that others were intimidating villagers masquerading as Agritex officers   in various wards countrywide.

“We are in the process of compiling the list of names of the individuals, they are stationed in the villages. Some are under the auspices of Agritex officers and they are across the over 1 958 wards in the country.

“It is incumbent upon the Zec to ensure they deal with the issue of the so-called ‘boys on leave’. We need to establish why they are in the villages and now they are coordinating serial numbers and marshalling traditional leaders into that process which is a violation of the Constitution and it’s a big issue.

“They are telling people that they are going to repeat what they did in 2008 and we all know what happened.”

There was a brutal response to former president Mugabe and the ruling Zanu PF’s loss in general elections in March 2008 that saw the ruling party launching a campaign of violence against MDC activists and supporters, mobilising a system of repression and violent intimidation marked by widespread abuses, including killings, torture, beatings, looting, and burning of property.  At least 200 people were killed and some 5 000 were tortured or beaten, with tens of thousands more displaced by the violence, which eventually forced the winner of the first round of polls Morgan Tsvangirai, now late, to withdraw from the poll, leaving Mugabe to declare himself the winner of the one-man contest.

Chamisa urged Zec to take immediate steps to prevent a repeat of 2008 political violence in mid-year elections.
“They are telling traditional leaders that if Chamisa wins  they are all going to be dismissed. There is now polling station-based intimidation, it has been localised because we are doing polling station-based voting,” Chamisa told the news conference.

“What is surprising is that Mnangagwa has not said anything about the abuse yet he is aware of it. We have brought it to his attention but he has not responded and this is what worries us  because he is a lawyer himself but he has not uttered a word. What he has only told us is that Zimbabwe is open for business. Why is his government open for business when it is not open to political accountability?”
Mnangagwa has said Zimbabweans must brace for free, fair and credible elections.

But Chamisa, who has written to Mnangagwa seeking a meeting with him to discuss these and other electoral issues, said his nemesis was not sincere. He said if Mnangagwa does not accept the MDC’s demands for comprehensive electoral reforms, then there won’t be an election.

“We will not boycott the election but will not accept this Zanu PF tomfoolery. Make no mistake about it; we will not accept a movie of an election. We are prepared to surrender ourselves first before we surrender our rights,” he declared.

Chamisa added: “We requested a meeting with him and we got a response to acknowledge receipt of the letter but no date has been set. Maybe he is too busy for us but time is not on his side because very soon we will also be too busy for him.”

Meanwhile, Chamisa said his party will be heading to Bulawayo at the weekend to drum up support for his party.

Pressed to say whether the rebellion launched against him by former MDC vice president Thokozani Khupe will not affect his campaign, Chamisa said the former Makokoba MP’s resistance was inconsequential.

“That she masquerades as MDC-T does not bother us because we are dealing with that so that she stops masquerading. Don’t worry about her, this is not the first time this has happened.”

The polls, which will be held in three months’ time, will  be Chamisa’s first  test  at the national level after he took over as MDC leader following the death of Morgan Tsvangirai in March. Daily News

Mangoma Warned As Battle Over ZimFirst Name Intensifies

– As splinter ZimFirst distances itself from CODE launch

By Talent Gondo | ZimFirst President, Doctor Maxwell Shumba has threatened to take the Coalition of Democrats (CODE) leader to court over the continued use of his party’s name in CODE activities.

Dr Shumba, who also distanced ZimFirst from the planned CODE launch set for April 14 2018 at the Freedom Square in Harare said CODE President, Elton Mangoma should stop soiling his party’s name by communicating falsehoods and portraying ZimFirst as one of the parties within his coalition.

Dr Shumba, who fell out from the Mangoma led coalition which now has only 4 political parties revealed that he will soon take CODE to court over the continued use and association of his party’s name in CODE activities and as a member of the coalition.

“We will be taking Mangoma to court for his continued soiling of our name,” said Dr Shumba.

“ZimFirst is not party to the April 14 CODE Rally and any mention of ZimFirst name on any CODE flier is a fraud and is the reason why we are taking CODE and Mangoma to court.”

Efforts to get a comment from CODE President or it’s spokesperson, Mjobisa Noko were futile.

CODE is however set to launch its coalition and election campaign on April 14 2018 at the Freedom Square in Harare.

The parties set to participate at this launch are the Renewal Democrats of Zimbabwe (RDZ) led by Mangoma, Derek Lupemba’s (ZimFirst), Marceline Chikasha’s African Democratic Party, Dumiso Dabengwa’s ZAPU and the Simba Makoni led Mavambo Kusile Dawn.

Mnangagwa Snubs Fomer Ally Mujuru

Mujuru and Mnangagwa back in the day

Statement | People’s Rainbow Coalition (PRC) led by Dr J. R. Mujuru notes with serious concern that despite writing to Mr E. D. Mnangagwa a plea for political and electoral reforms on the 23rd of February 2018, and which correspondence was also copied to Zimbabwe Electoral Commission on the same day; PRC’s plea has neither been responded to or acknowledged by Mr E. D. Mnangagwa’s office. Further, there is nothing on the horizon of Zimbabwe’s political landscape to demonstrate that the current military regime has the will power to ensure that electoral reforms are done besides globe trotting and misrepresenting to the world that Zimbabweans are now in a new era. Yes the regime could be given the benefit of doubt that Zimbabweans are now in a new era of worse of dictatorship. PRC, as the government in waiting, insists that electoral and political reforms are a must; should the country hope for a free, fair and credible elections.

To that end, PRC now puts the regime on notice that should key reforms be ignored for the holding of free, fair and credible elections, then PRC as the government in waiting is going to take every constitutional means available in order to protect the Zimbabwean democratic vote. PRC hereunder reminds the military regime of its unwavering demand for reforms as follows;

Preamble
The People’s Rainbow Coalition (PRC) consisting of the Democratic Assembly for Restoration and Empowerment (DARE), National People’s Party (PDP) and Zimbabweans United for Democracy (ZUNDE).

Concerned with the military activities of 13, 14 and 15 November 2017 which reproduced a crisis of legitimacy through an unconstitutional change of Government of Zimbabwe

Believing that any election that takes place in a context that is poisoned by military diffusion into the political arena can neither be free, fair or credible;

Noting that elections should be held within the next six months;

Concerned with political violence against members of the opposition including the brutal attack on the PRC Presidential Candidate Dr Joice Mujuru on the 1st of February in Glen View Harare; and

Desiring to restore constitutional order and legitimacy of Government in Zimbabwe.

Hereby demand that the following key Political and Electoral Reforms be urgently implemented ahead of the forthcoming Elections in Zimbabwe.

Electoral Integrity
PRC calls upon SADC, AU Commission and UN to assist Zimbabwe with maintenance of purity and transparency of the 2018 election process. We implore these supranational bodies to ensure that the forthcoming elections are conducted in line with the SADC Principles and Guidelines governing elections as well as the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance among other regional and international instruments which guarantee the integrity of elections.

Traditional leadership authority
PRC calls for the immediate depoliticisation of the fetishised institution of the traditional leadership authority. Section 281 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe stipulates that traditional leaders including chiefs, headmen/women and village heads must remain apolitical, impartial, fair and inclusive in their communities. Like the colonial regime before it, ZANU PF has usurped the institution of the traditional leadership authority and made it an extension of itself and this must be stopped immediately to allow rural voters to freely exercise their right to elect a government of their choice without fear and intimidation.

Demilitarization of the electoral process
PRC calls for the demilitarization of the electoral process. All members of the security forces, in adherence to the Constitution must first and foremost protect the Zimbabwean citizens despite their political affiliation. ZANU PF Commissariat and government have deployed an estimated 3000 military officials in civilian clothes into both urban and rural communities to campaign for ZANU PF ahead of the elections. These and other security personnel deployed in various institutions including Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) should be weeded out urgently. They have no role in an election except maintaining peace and security for all. Above everything else; PRC demands the military should make a public declaration of non-interference with electoral processes before the elections of 2018 are held.

Political violence and intimidation
One of the defining epithets of elections in Zimbabwe is political violence. Widespread intimidation of voter persists and organized ZANU PF thugs spread fear across communities in the build up to the 2018 elections as witnesses on the 1st of February 2018 against the PRC Presidential Candidate Dr Joice Mujuru and her supporters. ZANU PF party officials are also going around the communities recording serial numbers of Voters Registration Slips as an election intimidation tactic. PRC therefore demands an end to the recording of serial numbers of potential voters. PRC also demand that the electoral environment must be free from political violence, selective prosecution and suppression of political campaigns, repressive laws and practices and protection of electoral criminals.

Media reforms
PRC believes that the media plays a pivotal role in elections and therefore reiterates its call for substantial and urgent equal access to the State Media both print and electronic. All political parties have the right to have their content aired on State Television and Radio Stations. PRC further demands that State Newspapers and Reporters report news in a professional and impartial manner. Further, the public must not be used to promote hate speech against sections and views of those opposed to the ruling party.

Zimbabwe Electoral Commission
PRC demands the immediate dissolution of Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) and the creation of New Electoral Management Body that should be negotiated by all political parties in an inclusive platform. The current ZEC in not independent, and has been at the centre of all the flawed electoral process in Zimbabwe.

Diaspora vote
Despite the clear directions of the Constitution on the rights of all Zimbabwean citizens to vote, ZEC is yet to make arrangements to enable the Diaspora to exercise this right. Section 67 of the Constitution provides that every Zimbabwean citizen has the right to vote in all elections and referenda. We demand that Zimbabwean Diaspora should be allowed to vote in the next general elections wherever they are. Arrangements should be made for the Diaspora population to register to vote wherever they are and cast their votes in the 2018 elections.

Voters roll
PRC demands that the voters roll must be published on website and be advertised electronically and be given to any Zimbabwean upon request.

Election materials
PRC demands that all electoral stakeholders, including Political parties, be part of the decision making of the procurement, storage, counting, dispatch and use of all election material which include, ballot papers, ballot boxes, indelible ink, voting pens and al polling station material, at any and all stages of the election.

Independent election material audit
PRC demands that there be independent election material auditors at each stage that involves election material, procurement, storage, counting, dispatch and use, right up to after the announcement of the election results to ensure that every piece of material particularly the ballot papers, are counted for and their use verified by an independent body.

Election observation ad monitoring
PRC demands that all the processes of the forthcoming elections be observed by accredited observers and monitors from civic society and regional and international community. The Regional and International bodies are urged to urgently deploy their teams in all parts of the country and particularly in remote areas.

Independent electoral courts
PRC calls for the creation of wholly independent, impartial accountable and fair electoral courts with at least one such court in each and every province in the country. Their scope, independence and impartiality must be enshrined in the Electoral Act.

Independent mechanism for receiving complaints
PRC calls for the establishment of an independent mechanism for receiving and investigating complains from the members of the public about the misconduct on the part of members of security services and for remedying and harm caused by such misconduct as defines by Section 210 of the Constitution.

Election stakeholders
PRC demands that all interested political parties must be consulted on all issues pertaining to the forthcoming elections as opposed to the current situation where only parties that are represented in Parliament are consulted. The 2018 election will be a new election with new players whose input is crucial if Zimbabwe is to ensure electoral integrity. The guarantee of independence of ZEC depends a great deal on the trust nd credibility it enjoys with all political parties, media and ivil society.

Electoral roadmap
The issue of when the elections are due and how they will be administered must be outlined as a matter of urgency. The roadmap should include the critical elements such as the reforms outlined above, printing of ballot papers, nominations, campaigning and regulations that will guide these elections.

Conclusion
In conclusion, PRC believes that only a firm political will and commitment to reform, with support from citizens, media, SADC, AU, and UN can enable the country to put in place the political and electoral reforms that can truly provide a level playing field to all and fulfill the criteria of free, fair and credible elections in Zimbabwe.

Zuma Appears In Court

South Africa’s ex-President Jacob Zuma appeared in a Durban court Friday to face multiple corruption charges relating to a billion-dollar arms deal in the late 1990s.

It’s a dramatic U-turn for Zuma, who just weeks ago held the highest office in the land. He resigned on February 14, forced out by the leadership of the ruling African National Congress, his own party.
Thousands of people turned out to support Zuma as he arrived at the high court for his first hearing. They had been asked not to wear ANC colors, but many wore wraps and T-shirts with the former president’s image.

Zuma supporters demonstrate outside the High Court in Durban on Friday.

Some supporters sang as Zuma entered the courtroom. He turned, smiling, to acknowledge them.
The former President is charged with 16 counts of corruption, money laundering and racketeering, stemming from the billion-dollar government arms deal. He is accused of receiving 783 questionable payments in connection with the deal.
Zuma, who has always said he wanted his day in court, denies any wrongdoing.- CNN

Who is Jacob Zuma?01:17
After a brief preliminary hearing, the judge adjourned court proceedings to June 8.
Despite its brevity, the hearing was notable in a continent where leaders — former or current — don’t generally face the law.
Andrew Feinstein, a former ANC member of parliament, has long accused Zuma of corruption. “But the question is, can Zuma keep himself out of court using legal machinations?” he asked.
Up until his Durban court appearance, Zuma’s legal team had been successful in doing just that with a series of mostly procedural maneuvers.
In court Friday, his defense team said it would challenge the decision to prosecute.

Slew of scandals

The arms deal controversy clouded Zuma’s reputation for decades, even before a slew of other scandals rocked his presidency.
In 2005, Zuma’s former financial adviser Schabir Shaik was convicted for “overwhelming evidence” of corruption and found guilty of organizing multiple payments to Zuma to help facilitate and protect an arms deal with a French arms company.
In 2009, the charges against Zuma were dropped just before he ascended to the presidency. They were reinstated after years of legal wrangling.
“On one level, Zuma has just run out of legal options, but there has also been a political change and it is unfortunate that that political change has meant that the National Prosecuting Authority is doing what it should have done all along,” said advocate James Grant, a former professor of law at Witwatersrand University.

Council approves renaming Third street after the late opposition icon, Morgan Tsvangirai

By Talent Gondo | Harare’s Third Street will soon be renamed after the late Movement for Democratic Change founder and President, Morgan Richard Tsvangirai.

Harare Mayor, Bernard Manyenyeni confirmed the development saying the renaming of Third street was a council resolution from yesterday’s full council meeting.

Manyenyeni however said, while council had endorsed the proposal, the process of renaming Third Street after Tsvangirai would have to go through cabinet.

“Yes, council resolved to rename Third Street after the late Tsvangirai,” said Manyenyeni.

He however said the resolution would soon be tabled before cabinet for approval before it is implemented.

“It has to go through cabinet and that is due process,” said Manyenyeni.

Following the death of the opposition icon on February 14 2018, councillors within the MDC T dominated Harare City Council began tabling the proposal to name one of the streets in the central business district (CBD) after their late leader.

Tsvangirai, succumbed to colon cancer aged 65.

The late opposition leader is credited for changing the face of Zimbabwean politics after winning against former President, Robert Mugabe in the 2008 harmonised elections.

Rugare councillor, Peter Moyo moved the motion to have one of the roads named after Tsvangirai during a full council meeting in March 2018.
Moyo argued that since the late opposition leader had not been accorded hero’s status by the Zanu Pf led government, there was need to rename one of the streets in the CBD after Tsvangirai as a way of honouring and remembering his contribution towards democracy in Zimbabwe.

Shock As Dad Kills Son Over Cell Phone

NATIONAL NEWS

A 58 year old man from Bulawayo allegedly beat his 35-year-old son to death after accusing him of stealing his cellphone.

Frazer Sibanda from Mpopoma suburb allegedly assaulted his son Dennis with a plank all over the body on Wednesday last week. The son died in hospital on Sunday. Sibanda allegedly lied to police that his son had died of Aids.

He produced his medical cards and claimed his son had stopped taking his medication leading to his death. Sibanda allegedly destroyed the murder weapon but a postmortem showed his son had died as a result of a violent attack.

The accused yesterday appeared before Western Commonage magistrate, Mr Stephen Ndhlovu, facing murder charges. He was not asked to plead and remanded in custody to April 19.
Mr Ndhlovu advised Sibanda to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecuting, Mr Petros Shoko said On March 28 at around 11PM Sibanda, his son and Francis Washington Sithole were in the sitting room.

“The accused left the two in the sitting room and got into another room where he brought with him plank which was about a metre long which he used to assault his son several times all over the body accusing him of stealing his cellphone,” said Mr Shoko.

He said after the assault, Sibanda allegedly destroyed the plank which he had used to assault his son. Dennis sought medical examination on the following day as he was frothing through the mouth and he died on Sunday.

The court also heard that Sibanda went to the police to report his son’s death and he brought with him his son’s medical cards which indicated that he was on antiretroviral therapy. Sibanda, said Mr Shoko, told the police that his son had died of Aids but the postmortem results indicated that he had died from assault.

Investigations were carried out leading to Sibanda’s arrest. A month ago, another Bulawayo man was arrested for allegedly fatally assaulting his maid whom he was having an affair with after discovering that she was HIV positive.

Godson Zondo (36) from Emganwini suburb allegedly assaulted his maid Khethiwe Zimba with a plank all over the body in February after he discovered that she was on ART.
The maid, who was having an extra-marital affair with Zondo, had not told him that she was HIV positive.

Zimba died in hospital a day after the assault from excessive bleeding. Zondo’s wife was working outside Bulawayo and the alleged crime is said to have been committed while she was at work. Chronicle

MDC Chamisa Vets Primary Election Candidates, Halts All Internal Campaigns

Staff Reporter | The MDC led by Advocate Nelson Chamisa has suspended all primary election campaigning until full vetting of all prospective candidates is completed.

ZimEye.com spoke to MDC National Chairman, Morgen Komichi, who explained the internal procedure; “Those confirmed by the National Council will then start campaigning. The vetting of potential candidates will include if they are persons of good standing, have no criminal record. Also if not an infiltrator, because we need to look at that, when the euphoria is so high your opponent will easily deploy people to your camp.”

The MDC leader said by the 26th of April all vetting would be complete and candidate lists ready. Below is the circular sent to all party provinces;

Provincial Chairs: The Party is currently working on the establishment of the Candidates Panel. We have not yet finished compiling the list of the legitimate candidates. The National Council shall announce all the qualified candidates to go for Primaries. Those who have started campaigning now are showing a high level of indiscipline. So Stop It. I put full responsibility on the Provincial Chairpersons to stop the practice in their respective areas. Those aspiring candidates who do not take heed of this instruction face very serious censure.

Mpofu Bounces Back, Eyes Khupe Post

Former MDC youth leader, academic Bekithemba Mpofu has bounced back to the political arena and is reported to be eyeing the Vice President post which was previously held by Thokozani Khupe.

Mpofu, a senior academic at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, took to social media to announce his come back. He talks to the local Newsday.

NN: Who is Dr Mpofu?
BM: I consider myself as one of the true Matabeleland South sons of the soil. With origins in Mtshabezi, I was born at Mpilo Central Hospital in 1973 and l did most of my primary and secondary education in about five schools in the province (Matabeleland South): Fairbridge Primary, Bezha Primary, Beitbridge Primary, Beitbridge Mission Primary and Mzingwane High School. Like most kids those days, I spent most of my holidays in the village herding cattle, in the fields and/or playing football. My political interests started at the University of Zimbabwe, where l held various positions including being a member of the Student Representative Council. I then joined the MDC as a member of its interim leadership led by the late Learnmore Jongwe. At the inaugural congress, I was elected as the first secretary general of the youth assembly of the party under the leadership of our president, Nelson Chamisa. Wonderful years we had as we worked so well together, complementing each other.
Apart from political interests, I am a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute (FCMI) and a Certified Member of the British Institute of Facilities Management (CBIFM). I obtained a PhD in Financial Economics (Econometrics) from the University of St Andrews and an MSc in International Finance from Westminster University on a Chevening Scholarship as well as hold a professional real estate qualification from the Real Estate Institute of Zimbabwe, a BSc (Hons) in Urban Studies, and a Master of Business Administration, both from University of Zimbabwe.

I started my career in the real estate sector in 1995 as a university intern, then took up another internship (as a junior project quantity surveyor) with FMI Costain, and later became property investment portfolio manager at a Financial Holdings company. I then joined a building society as a senior bank executive, with remit for mortgage valuations, housing development projects, administration and banking premises facilities management. Prior to taking up a Chevening scholarship, and then St Andrews scholarship to study for an MSc in International Finance and PhD, l was the principal and shareholder in a property consultancy firm. I have also worked as an associate dean in a university in the United Kingdom and a senior academic at a South African university.

NN: What has made you pack your bags from UK and seek political office?
BM: I, like many concerned Zimbabweans, have felt hopeless and helpless watching the Zanu PF government run down Zimbabwe to its current, unacceptable state. So last year I relocated so that I can offer my experience and knowledge to the struggle by availing myself as a candidate for public office. A few of my friends felt and still feel my decision is irrational because they think nothing can change given that some believe Zanu PF will not step aside even when they lose an election and they correctly cite the 2008 election. Personally, I believe in fate, and when the opportunity to relocate presented itself I knew this year is our election, it is the year the new generation ushers a new path for Zimbabwe. I firmly believe that in Nelson Chamisa we have a leader whose vision for Zimbabwe has been clear since our youth leadership days.

Now back to your question, why seek political office: I have worked in the private and education sectors since graduating from the University of Zimbabwe in 1998 and the experience I have gained from the different senior positions has improved my own ability to lead teams in developing solutions for complex issues. I believe Zimbabwean problems require practical solutions; thinking outside the box; a modern approach/outlook to these challenges, and this is what I know I can offer in public office. Moreso having worked as the secretary-general of the youth assembly, I know how these experiences can be applied to a political environment with appropriate care and consideration.

NN: Is it true that you are eyeing the vacant MDC-T deputy presidency post?
BM: Like any dedicated party member, I am committed to the idea of being deployed to any position our members believe can best serve the interest of the party. If that position is VP then I will be honoured.

NN: Why do you think you deserve the VP post?
BM: The word deserve is not only inappropriate, but irrelevant in this case or in the political environment. For a start, there are a number of deserving party leaders, second leaders are elected to lead in positions the party members believe best serve the party and personally, the notion that one deserves a particular post is incongruous with the politics I believe in unfortunately.

NN: What is the nature of your relationship with Chamisa and other MDC-T members in Matabeleland, for example Tabitha Khumalo, who is said to be eyeing the VP post?
BM: President Chamisa is my friend, we have worked together for an number of years (since 1999) within and outside party structures. We chat here and there about issues and how Zimbabwe can be transformed into a better society. One thing I like about him is that he is a good listener and takes constructive advice seriously.

I am not aware of anyone currently eyeing the VP position, but I work well with party members in
Matabeleland. At the weekend, I was chatting to Mxolisi Ndlovu the acting chair of Matabeleland
North about this weekend rally, and this morning I have been chatting to my provincial chair and provincial secretary separately. So I consider my relationship with party leaders very good as we need each other to turn the 2013 tables in this year’s elections. Newsday

Mujuru Says NO To Electoral Reforms Pact With ZEC

Ready to go to court to block electoral reforms agreement, Joice Mujuru.

By Paul Nyathi

Leader of the People’s Rainbow Coalition Dr Joice Mujuru has legally challenged the electoral reforms agreement entered into between the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission and three political parties currently represented in parliament.

In a letter to ZEC from her party’s lawyers Hamutendi and Nyandoro legal practitioners, Mujuru challenged ZEC to immediately cancel the agreement because it did not include her political outfit.

According to Mujuru, ZEC erred in only engaging the three political parties ignoring all other opposition parties in coming up with the agreement.

The letter by the lawyers claims that ZEC promised that it will involve the PRC in all its engagements when it registered the party in it’s data base in January which makes the reforms agreement invalid as it excluded her party.

The three political parties represented in Parliament, ZANU PF, MDC-T and MDC on Tuesday agreed on electoral reforms that have since been submitted to the Ministry of Justice and Parliamentary Affairs for consideration.

Parliament is in the process of amending the Electoral Act ahead of the country’s elections to be held by August this year.

Zanu-PF, MDC-T and the Professor Welshman Ncube led MDC, the only parties whose members are legislators, have been working on an electoral code of conduct that they want to be part of the Electoral Act.

The political parties tentatively agreed on a roadmap that will provide tolerant and violent free elections. The parties agreed to disclose to the public details of the agreement when the agreement is crafted into law through parliament.

“We have submitted our agreement to the Ministry of Justice. We want the code of conduct to be made part of our electoral laws. There is an amendment before Parliament and we are hoping that the electoral code will be included in the electoral law amendment,” said ZANU PF Secretary for legal affairs Paul Mangwana in an interview after the meeting.

“We resolved that there should not be any political violence during our elections, that there should be peaceful campaigns and that the political parties undertake to respect one another,” Mangwana said.

MDC secretary general Ms Miriam Mushayi said the Ministry of Justice and Parliamentary Affairs guaranteed them that their submissions would be taken on board.

“We are happy with the code that we have produced but remember these documents are living documents and are determined by the current context, current political environment. We’re cognisant of the fact that documents of this nature will always remain living documents to an extent that there is a need to have a relook at them. But at the moment we’re really happy with contributions that we have made,” said Ms Mushayi.

She said the code of conduct calls for equal access to the media for political parties as well as objective reporting on elections.

Ms Mushayi said as political parties they recommended that the electoral code should also govern other institutions including traditional leaders and civic society organisations as they are actively involved in political processes.

Mujuru has given ZEC a week to reverse the agreement or risks having the issue taken to court.

Khupe Gets “No Underwear” Protest Backing

“Priscilla Wa Bantu” urging women not to put on underwear to the polls

By Paul Nyathi| The expelled former MDC Deputy President, Thokozani Khupe yesterday received backing from a cluster of women in politics.

The female activists at the weekend held a solidarity gathering with the troubled politician over alleged victimisation by male politicians on her simply because she is a woman.

The women met at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair grounds in Bulawayo as they held a prayer session for fellow female politicians in the country.

Among the scores of women who attended the gathering was MDC parliamentarian Priscilla Misihairabwi Mushonga who called on fellow women to go to the polls without their underwear to underscore their support for Khuphe and remind them that they are women.

“Some of us women are beginning to forget who we are and agreeing to be subjected by men,” she said.

“When we go to the elections this year we will be protesting this and we will go there without our underwear to remind ourselves that we are women and not vote for any male candidates,” she said.

Misihairabwi Mushonga hailed the women who attended the meeting claiming that their presence diffused the perception that women are divided and always fail to support each other.

Addressing the same gathering, leader of the People’s Democratic Party splinter party Luciah Matibenga also urged women to vote for fellow women candidates in the coming elections.

Matibenga also hailed the women for coming in their numbers to give Khuphe support at a time when she is being tormented by the MDC-T leadership that denied her leadership of the party to give it to Chamisa outside the provisions of the party.

“This is a very important day for us as women and especially for our sister Khuphe who is being persecuted for being a women in the MDC-T,” she said.

Matibenga urged women in the country to unite and give their full support to Khuphe as an injury to one woman is an injury to all women.

Khuphe thanked the women for giving her the support especially for attending the gathering organised by her supporter Lorraine Ncube in a short notice.

“I want to thank you so much for coming in your numbers and for the support and want to assure you that I will never give up this fight,” she said.

Dismissed MDC-T National Organising Secretary Abednico Bhebhe was the only visible high profile male person at the ceremony.

The three women, Khuphe, Mushonga and Matibenga are meanwhile reported to be cementing a women biased coalition with People’s Rainbow Coalition leader Joice Mujuru.

Khuphe, Bhebhe and Obert Gutu were dismissed from the MDC-T recently and have since formed their splinter MDC-T preparing to contest elections in this year’s plebiscite.

DOKORA BOOKS: Govt Blows $9 Million On New Curriculum Literature

Government has gone ahead to implement controversial former Education Minister, Lazarus Dokora’s dejected curriculum.

This comes despite protests from hundreds of thousands of parents and teachers who since last year have been complaining that the curriculum change was too sudden, unplanned and disorderly. Two days ago teachers particularly in the capital city told ZimEye.com the whole education system has been overhauled by and this in a destructive way.  The latest development comes as teachers announced that they are preparing legal papers to take the government to court over what they say is not only a violation of their employment contracts, but also an abuse of students and pupils.

Notwithstanding, Dokora’s successor, Prof Paul Mavima yesterday  moved ahead to launch the second batch of new curriculum textbooks in Harare, procured under the $9 million Education Development Fund (EDF) facility, which is administered by UNICEF.

Mavima said the total number of textbooks procured for the whole country in Phase 1 was 1,2 million. He was quoted by the state media saying, “these books were bought at a total cost of $1,8 million. The textbooks distributed were for ECD A, Grades 1 and 3 as well as Forms 1 and 3. During today’s launch, we will see 60 726 textbooks for the updated curriculum being distributed to three districts – Mazowe District (37 primary and nine secondary), Shamva District (18 primary and five secondary) and Zvimba District (74 primary and 16 secondary).

“The exercise will continue to the rest of the districts, we expect them to get books before the start of the second term. The books for the primary schools are 54 992 and for the secondary schools are 5 734.”

Chamisa Punishes Khupe-rites

By A Correspondent| MDC leader Nelson Chamisa has reportedly resolved to punish with explusion all rebels who support the party’s renegade banished Deputy President, Thokozani Khupe.

Khupe was removed from her post after a protracted period of nearly 10 months in fights with the late MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai and later Chamisa himself.

The development comes as thousands of MDC suppoters screamed out against Khupe.

The party’s acting spokesperson, Ms Thabitha Khumalo, is quoted by the state owned Herald paper saying provinces have been ordered to compile lists of “rebellious” members whose fate “is already sealed.”

“It was a resolution made by the national council that all provinces must go back and everybody who has joined the Khupe cabal must be expelled. That is the national council resolution. It’s a matter of being identified and provinces should advise and we take the necessary action,” said Ms Khumalo.
She said she was aware of several individuals in Bulawayo who have been recommended for expulsion.
“Mguni (Nomvula) provincial secretary, declared that she is now the provincial chairperson for the Khupe faction. So she is expelled and women’s assembly chairperson, Tamani (Moyo) as well,” she said.

“It’s going to be determined by what provinces send to the national council. Because we need proof that the identified individuals are no longer part of the MDC-T. If anyone declares his or her position, the national council’s resolution will be activated.”

Hon. Khumalo said Adv Chamisa will soon appoint a replacement for Dr Khupe in line with the party’s constitutional provisions.

She said with elections fast approaching, the party will also be replacing other expelled members.
“In line with the party’s constitutional provisions president Chamisa is empowered to disappoint and appoint people who will be working in those positions because we cannot work in a vacuum; nature doesn’t allow that. We have three months to the elections. We have to make sure that the cockpit is intact,” she said.

Khumalo said Dr Khupe’s faction should also cease using the party’s name.
“We expelled them; they are no longer our members. They are masquerading and that is fraud. They should come up with their own party. The constitution is guiding us on the course of action to take. If they continue to do what they are doing, we will take corrective measures,” said Ms Khumalo.

UK: Outrage As Pensioner Burgled By Well Known Thug, Attacked Him, Now Is Suddenly Charged For Murder

…this man has worked all his life paying taxes. Bought a home and now retired. A burglar brakes into his home. He defends his home. Burglar dies. Pensioner arrested.

London – There was outrage in the UK when a 78 year old pensioner who was burgled and to his defence reportedly attacked the intruder, the latter who died as a result of injuries, was later charged for murder.

The development has seen the suspected burglar being revealed as a well known individual on the police database for a previous break in.

The burglar, Henry Vincent, 37, was named on Thursday who was fatally wounded at the London home of the 78 year old Richard Osborn-Brooks.

Mr Brooks has since been arrested on suspicion of murder.

According the report, Vincent together with an accomplice threatened the 78-year-old with a screwdriver during the burglary in the early hours of Wednesday morning and Vincent was stabbed after a struggle broke out.

A witness told reporters the alleged accomplice dragged Vincent away towards a white van before leaving him for dead. He described seeing a white Vauxhall Astra van pull up next to a man “moaning and groaning” and ”bleeding heavily from his chest through his shirt”. – Agencies More to follow…

Mnangagwa Chinese Romance Sees Withdrawal of Beitbridge Harare Highway Australian Tender

By Paul Nyathi| President Emmerson Mnangagwa has announced that his government has resolved to start afresh the tendering process on the dualisation of the accident prone Beitbridge Harare Highway.

Mnangagwa revealed this in China to Chinese engineers on Thursday announcing the withdrawal of the tender awarded to Austrian firm, Geiger in May 2016.

Briefing the Anhui Foreign Economic Construction Corporation (AFECC) Mnangagwa said Government had become impatient with lack of construction activity on the very busy highway whose condition has deteriorated badly leading to massive deaths caused by accidents on the very bad road.

“In the area of infrastructure development, we need bidders for the dualisation and widening of the Beitbridge-Harare-Chirundu Highway,” he said.

“For two years we have had problems with Geiger, so Cabinet has taken a decision to institute a legal process to terminate the deal as a result of non-performance.”

Mnangagwa who obviously looked kin to engage the Chinese company take over the road works told AFECC executives that there was room for the firm to take up some of the oppportunities presented in infrastructure development in the country.

He commended AFECC for investing in Zimbabwe.

“We are very grateful to AFECC for taking the risk to invest in Zimbabwe at that time during which only very few companies could do so,” said President Mnangagwa.

AFECC has so far constructed the Zimbabwe National Defence College in Harare, Longchen Plaza also in Harare and the Golden Peacock Hotel in Mutare, and intends to put up a hotel and conference centre in Victoria Falls.

The company worked with the Chinese companies that looted diamonds revenue in the Chiadzwa Diamond fields during former President Robert Mugabe’s government.

Edward Zuma In Daddy’s Defense

The junior Zuma has been a vocal proponent of his embattled father in his latest brush with the law.

He appeared in a bright yellow ANC T-shirt at an ad hoc protest outside the Durban University of Technology on Thursday night.

He had earlier this week locked horns with ANC NEC member and Police Minister Bheki Cele over the flying of party colours outside the Durban High Court.

The ANC has warned its members not to wear party colours when attending the court case and instead show support as individuals.

In a statement‚ Edward said: “As a member of the ANC myself I shall be attending court in my own ANC shirt unfortunately leadership.

“I wish to take this opportunity and assist my leader comrade Bheki Cele by putting things into perspective. Firstly‚ the Zuma family we did not mobilise any support nor are we in the business of such.

“It is people of South Africa who correctly believe that they need to support the former president Jacob Zuma as it’s clear that the witch-hunt against JZ is being intensified from all corners and levels.

“It would be absurd to deny people the opportunity to show and vent their support and anger at this ludicrous charges laid against Jacob Zuma. The name of the ANC was never used by the ZUMA family but its members of the ANC who are and we can’t stop them‚ hence as a member of the ANC myself I shall be attending Court in my own ANC shirt unfortunately leadership.”

Zuma made good on his promise to wear the yellow‚ black and green. I want to be with the people who are innocent and I am one of them‚” he said.

“I have not spoken to my father but I would suppose that as an innocent man he is not worried‚” he added.- TimesLive

Mujuru Sued Over Dodgy Tractor Deal

Former vice president and National People’s Party (NPP) leader Joice Mujuru (pictured) has been dragged to the High Court for failing to pay $387 000 in a tractors deal.

Peppy Motors (Private) Limited, trading as Agritech, Sabrina Sarpo and Tony Sarpo are the complainants, while Mujuru, Ruzirun Investments (Private) Limited and a bank (name withheld) are cited as respondents.

The court heard that Agritech entered into a loan facility agreement with the bank in 2012, in which it demanded $350 000 for the purchase of various tractors. According to court papers, the maturity date for the loan facility was July 31, 2013 and the Sarpos bound themselves as sureties to the facility.

“On July 25, the tractors which were purchased by the first plaintiff (Agritech) using the loan facility were in turn sold and bought from the first plaintiff by the second defendant (Ruzirun Investments) represented by the first defendant (Mujuru) in terms of which the final payment to the first plaintiff would be due by April 2015 and in terms of which there remained an outstanding balance of $226 000 upon which an agreed monthly interest charge of 23 percent per annum would be charged,” the court heard.

According to court papers, Mujuru paid  $10 000 to the bank and did not make any further payments.

The Sarpos are now seeking an order for them to be replaced by Mujuru and her company as debtors to the bank and pay the outstanding $387 583, 22.

In the alternative, the Sarpos are seeking “an order that first and second defendants, jointly and severally pay to the first plaintiff as represented by the second and third plaintiffs the capital sum of $226 000 due in terms of an agreement of sale between the parties dated 25th July 2014.

“An order that first and second defendants, jointly and severally pay to the first plaintiff as represented by the second and third  plaintiffs interest in the amount of $169 821, 77 due in terms of an agreement of sale between the parties dated 25th July, 2014.”

Mujuru has not yet respondent to the application.- Daily News

Pamire Mocks ZIFA Leadership

Former ZIFA boss Vincent Pamire has challenged the football mother body’s leadership to adhere to its own constitution.

This follows widespread debate on the right to stay in office of the ZIFA structures.

Debate has centred on whether the Phillip Chiyangwa board still has a mandate to run the association after it assumed office to complete the former president, Cuthbert Dube’s tenure.

In the midst of the debate two executive members, Piraishe Mabhena and Felton Kamambo, stepped down citing they strongly hold that elections are due and that as executives they have completed their tenure.

Pamire, the man who was at the helm of the soccer mother body in the country when Zimbabwe qualified to its first AFCON in Tunisia 2004, urges the football administrators to abide by the constitution for the sport to retain its respectability.

“They must go by the book. Follow their constitution and not have personal interests and protect the game. They are not protecting it. I’m sorry, a lot of people including sponsors are losing interest. We hope common sense will prevail,” he said.

Pamire went on to advice the ZIFA leadership that failure to sort out the issue would incite the involvement of government to correct matters which should not be the case.

“They mustn’t in the end cry foul when the government gets involved because there is no way a government can just watch this thing falling apart. The most important sport in the country is football and if football goes down, the government also goes down. So i would be surprised if the government lets them do as they wish because it is not their sport. It belongs to all of us,” said Pamire.

Fifa has recently indicated that it was closely studying the ZIFA congress resolutions and would be making their position public soon.- state media

Hundreds Defy Armed Police To March For Free And Fair Elections

Crisis In Zimbabwe Coalition members march through the streets of Harare demanding electoral reforms.

By Paul Nyathi

Hundreds of civil society members on Thursday defied a blockage by heavily armed anti riot police to continue with a scheduled demonstration for electoral reforms in the streets of Harare.

About five hundred members of civil society organisations affiliated to the Crisis In Zimbabwe Coalition assembled at the Africa Unity Square in the capital mid morning preparing to march into the city before police details attempted to block them.

Holding onto a police notice from Harare central police clearing the demonstration, the marchers took to the streets and proceeded to deliver a petition at the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission offices in the city before proceeding to drop similar demands at the Ministry of Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.

The march ended at the Parliament of Zimbabwe where another petition signed by 162 civil society organisations was delivered for the Speaker of Parliament.

Speaking to journalists at the end of the march, the Crisis In Zimbabwe Coalition director Thulani Mswelanto took swipe at the police for attempting to disrupt the march.

“Its unfortunate that police attempted to deny people of their constitutional right to demonstrate and petition,” said Mswelanto.

Mswelanto said that the demands from civil society were genuine demands for a free and fair election which they have been raising with government for the last three years with no joy from the government.

“We are demanding for the implementation of the electoral reforms presented to government in a petition by the Election Resource Centre in a petition three years ago,” he said.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been going around promising that his governement will this year thrive to present a credible, free and fair election.

Government has however deliberately continued to ignore implementing the reforms with just under five months to the next election.

‘ZEC Must Deregister Incompetent Political Parties’

NATIONAL NEWS

Terrence Mawawa | Respected human rights activist and political analyst, Joy Mabenge has said ZEC must deregister all political parties that fail to garner at least a single seat in the coming elections for sanity to prevail.

Mabenge said too many political parties were creating discord within the opposition ranks.

“For sanity to prevail in the Zimbabwean political space, all parties that fail to get at least one seat either at council or parliamentary level in the forthcoming 2018 elections must be deregistered. There will be at least two parties to join,” wrote Mabenge on Facebook.

“On behalf of the government and the people of Zimbabwe, Zanu PF party and on my own behalf, I wish to express our deepest condolences to Your Excellency and through you to the government and the people of the Republic of South Africa, the ANC as well the Madikizela and Mandela families on the loss of this legendary heroine,” said Acting President Chiwenga.

Acting President Chiwenga said in Cde Madikizela-Mandela Zimbabwe had friend and Cde in arms to rely on.

He expressed confidence that the people of South Africa, ANC and the Madikizela-Mandela family will find solace in her rich legacy bequeathed to them all and to those still fighting for liberation against forces of oppression.- state media

Nyagura Approaches High Court Over Grace Mugabe Degree

University of Zimbabwe vice chancellor Levi Nyagura, who is accused of corruptly awarding a PhD to former first lady Grace Mugabe, has approached the High Court seeking to stop his trial before the Harare Magistrates’ Court.

In the urgent chamber application, he cited Harare magistrate Tilda Mazhande and the State as respondents.

“This is an urgent chamber application to stay criminal proceedings being presided by the first respondent (Mazhande) under CRB 2287/18 pending the determination of an application for review currently pending in this court under case No.HC2653/18,” Nyagura said.

He applied for review after Mazhande ruled that he must stand trial over the allegations of criminally abusing his office.

“I have an inalienable right not to be deprived of my liberty arbitrarily or without just cause by virtue of Section 49 (1) (b) of the Constitution and by virtue of Section 50 (1) (e). I am entitled to challenge the lawfulness of my arrest before a court. These are the rights I seek to enforce under case No. 2653/18, which is pending before this honourable court. I aver that those rights are clearly established.

“If the interim interdict I herein seek is not granted, I fear that I will suffer irreparable prejudice. The Constitution authorises deprivation of my personal liberty where there is reasonable suspicion of my having committed a criminal offence. Without a reasonable suspicion my remand is unconstitutional,” he said.

He said if criminal proceedings against him before the Harare Magistrates’ Court are not stopped and the process is quashed on review, he would suffer prejudice, through waste of time and resources.
He further said there were high chances that his charges would be quashed through his application for review.

“I had given notice that I intended to challenge my placement on remand. I requested, before formally making the application, that the investigating officer be present so that a factual inquiry can be conducted. The first respondent directs me to put my request in writing. I do so, and also outlines the procedure to be followed where existence of a reasonable suspicion and the lawfulness of an arrest are put in issue.

“The first respondent hands down a ruling which dismisses the application I intended to make, before I have made it. The effect of the ruling is to close the doors for me to make the application on the same grounds in the future, for they now stand determined.

“The effect of the ruling is to deny me my right to challenge my placement on remand in what I consider the best way to do so.

“Therein lies the gross irregularity justifying interference in pending proceedings. Therein lies the grave injustice to the applicant,” Nyagura said. The High Court is yet to make a determination in the matter.

Allegations against Nyagura are that sometime in 2011, he single-handedly accepted and approved Grace’s application to study for a PhD in Sociology without the knowledge of the Department Board and Faculty of Higher Degrees Committee.

The court heard that Nyagura then appointed two professors to supervise Grace’s thesis without the board’s approval.

Nyagura is further accused of usurping the powers of the UZ senate by single-handedly appointing examiners for Mugabe’s research in violation of the UZ Act chapter 25:16 and Ordinance 1998/99.
Sometime in 2014, Nyagura allegedly led supervisors and examiners to Grace’s Mazowe Estate where the defence oral examination was purportedly done without knowledge and approval of the academic committee.

According to State papers the oral examination is supposed to be done on UZ premises. Daily News

Dembare, Epoupa Bury Hatchet

Dynamos and their Cameroonian star striker Christian Joel Epoupa Ntouba
reached an agreement after holding a crucial
meeting yesterday.

The Harare Giants owe the Cameroonian in excess
of $16 000 in signing-on fees and other allowances
and the player, under instruction from his manager
David Sengwe, has been refusing to play for the
team until they pay him at least half of that amount.

But the manager told The Herald that the forward
would resume playing for the Glamour Boys again.

“We are still to discuss other issues but, at the
moment, I can safely say Epoupa is now available
for selection if Dynamos make sure he has his work
permit,’’ said Sengwe.

“If they successfully apply for the document by
Friday, then he will play for them in their next
assignment – which I understand is on Saturday
against ZPC Kariba.

We will have a meeting tomorrow (today) just to tie
some loose ends otherwise it is now done and
dusted.”

Dynamos face ZPC Kariba at Nyamhunga Stadium in a must win game at the weekend.

Two Women Brutally Attacked On Way To Join Bank Queue At Night

Zimbabweans desperately queuing for cash at a bank.

By Paul Nyathi

Two innocent women, a mother and daughter were brutally attacked by a lone thug in Gwanda town on their way to joining a bank queue for cash in the early hours of Thursday morning.

A relative close to the pair told ZimEye.com that the two were attacked by a knife branding male thug at around 3am when they were on their way to join a bank queue at a bank in the town centre.

The two women who were identified to ZimEye.com by the relative were each stabbed numerous times all over their bodies by the thug after they failed to comply to his demand for cash and any valuables on them.

The two were assisted by a security guard at premises about 200 metres away from the scene after the younger woman managed to walk the distance to seek for help.

An ambulance was called and took the two to Gwanda Provincial Hospital where the mother was immediately transferred to the United Bulawayo Hospital in a critical condition.

Sources at the hospital confirmed that the younger woman is still admitted in Gwanda and in a stable condition.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been insisting that the cash crisis in the country has stabilised and people no longer need to spend nights at the bank.

The situation on the ground however remains dire and desperate as banks are failing to provide the cash needed by the population especially those from rural areas who have limited access to other methods of payments.

The rural populace, especially pensioners, are having to spend days up to a week sleeping outside banks that give them a maximum $20 withdrawal a day.

Strive Masiyiwa Mourns Winnie Mandela

Terrence Mawawa

Iconic Zimbabwean business tycoon Strive Masiyiwa has described the late Winnie Madikizela Mandela as a true champion of the struggle for economic emancipation in Africa.

Below is Masiyiwa’ s statement on Winnie Madikizela Mandela’ s death:

The day Winnie Madikizela-Mandela came to
visit me.

“She is here! It’s her, and she is sitting waiting for
you in our board room!” said my PA, barely able to
contain herself with excitement.

“Who?!” I asked.
“She told me not to tell you, because it’s a surprise.”

So I followed her, not knowing who she was talking
about.

“My boy! My son!” she shouted gleefully as she
rushed from her seat, and with those words she
enveloped me with the huge hug of an African
mother!

She was bubbling with joy as she greeted me.
I can still see her now, in this amazing headwear
that only she could wear with such abandoned
elegance.

It was Winnie Mandela!
We had never actually met, but it didn’t seem like
that. It was as though I had known her all my life!
Which in a way was true.

As I was growing up in Zambia (amongst the exile
communities from Zimbabwe and South Africa)
Winnie Mandela’s life and travails were daily fare for
us.

We may not have had social media platforms
like Facebook and Twitter, but we all “followed” her
like any celebrity today.

She was our celebrity, our heroine, our symbol of
defiance with courage and dignity.
My mother had two older sisters (both now late) and
their own husbands were in political detention in the
then Rhodesia.

One served 11 years, whilst the other
collectively did more than 20 years. The pain in the
lives of those two women was like the life of Winnie
Mandela without the fame. And even though my
mother never met Winnie Mandela, to her she was
the public face of her struggling sisters.

In those days, when pictures of the beautiful Jackie
Kennedy would appear in magazines, my mother and
her friends would just scoff and say, “She is not as
beautiful as Winnie Mandela!”

Now she was in my office, looking like she had
walked off a movie set!
That evening I called my mother.
“Guess who came to my office, Mama… Winnie
Mandela!”

“Shuwa! Shuwa!”
“Shuwa, Mama!”
“Ah!Ah!” she exclaimed. “So how was she dressed?”
“Like a queen Mama! Even Jackie Kennedy could
not dress like that!”

“Then you have met my Winnie!
Winnie Mandela had heard that I was being
persecuted back home in Zimbabwe, and wanted to
make me welcome in South Africa.

She told me she
would fight for me “if Thabo Mbeki tries to send you
back to Mugabe”!
I assured her I didn’t think it would come to that. We
then chatted over a cup of tea about charity work,
and she told me about her non-political interests.

Then she was gone like a fragrant gust of wind. I
was not sure what to make of it, but I appreciated it.

That was nearly 17 years ago.
I did not see her again, except at occasional public
events, but if she spotted me, she would always
come over and ask how I was doing. I appreciated
it.
Like everyone else, I have read a few things about
her, both good, bad and sometimes also
disappointing.

I will leave that all to the great Judge
Himself now.
Today I thought to just share this little memory to
celebrate her life.
That day when she came to visit me at my office, is
my own memory of her captured and stored forever.

My deepest condolences to her family, and the
people of Africa who saw her as a mother in the
struggle for Africa’s dignity.

May God strengthen you with peace.

Gone are the days when news reporters used to be crammed in urban areas.

Media Centre and its partners invaded Mashonaland East Province previously regarded as a no go area for Non Governmental Organisations and successfully held a training programme for citizen journalists on Tuesday.

“We carried out a Citizen Journalism Training Programme in
Mash East Province where community members
from Mudzi, Murehwa, Mutoko and UMP were
trained on how to become effective and authentic news reporters.

This was a move necessitated by the need to
involve the citizens in spearheading the advocacy for
pro-development initiatives within their communities
and also as way of demanding accountability and
transparency from their local and national leaders.

We also incorporated BVR_Education , emphasising
the need for those not registered to visit their
nearest ZEC District offices as a matter of urgency.

We also emphasized the
need for the participants expose perpetrators of violence during and after the polls,” said Media Centre Director Earnest Mudzengi in a statement posted on Facebook.

German Broadcaster Boss’ Comments On Investing In Zimbabwe

By Staff Reporter| LIVE-BLAST: The visiting German broadcaster, Deutshe Welle’s boss has made a comment on Zimbabwe as an investor friendly nation.

Speaking during a panel discussion with Zim journalists at Meikles Hotel in Harare, Mr. Peter Limbourg was quizzed by TV presenter Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa who said, “Mr Limbourg are you willing to invest in Zimbabwe?”

He replied saying,  “I think well, I am not a private entrepreneur. If I would be a private entrepreneur, I would probably invest in Zimbabwe because given that your government is doing the right things; because I believe this is a great country, great people and highly educated, and dedicated, so I think people should invest in Zimbabwe if the rules of engagement are sufficient, and if you know as an investor that this is going to be a solid investment, then for us at DW we have correspondents here…we hope to get closer but we saw the past the international media wasn’t so much welcome, and we hope to see…”
