Heavy Army Presence at the Tagwirei-Sponsored SDA Crossover Party

By A Correspondent| The Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church’s highly anticipated crossover party, held at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) on December 31, 2024, was marked by a heavy presence of army and police personnel.

This unusual security deployment raised eyebrows, with speculation rife that authorities sought to preempt potential disruptions from fans of popular musician Winky D, whose own crossover show at the same venue had been controversially canceled.

The event, sponsored by businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei’s Bridging Gaps Foundation, attracted widespread attention following revelations that a substantial sum of US$245,000 was paid to secure the venue, effectively blocking Winky D’s planned performance.

The decision led to public outcry, with the musician’s fans accusing authorities and Tagwirei of collusion to suppress artistic freedom and dissent.

Uniformed and plainclothes police, supported by military personnel, were stationed at strategic points around the HICC, creating a tense atmosphere.

While official reasons for the heightened security presence were not provided, sources within the security establishment suggested that authorities feared protests or attempts by Winky D fans to disrupt the event.

One attendee described the scene as “unprecedented for a church event,” adding, “It felt like we were attending a political rally rather than a spiritual gathering.”

Despite the controversy and heavy security, the SDA crossover party reportedly proceeded without incident. Thousands of congregants gathered to usher in the New Year with sermons, prayers, and musical performances.

Why South Africans are Turning to Forex Trading for Financial Growth

Over the last decade, retail forex trading has grown into a major financial activity for South Africans. The foreign exchange (forex) market offers opportunities for South Africans to supplement or potentially replace traditional income sources. While trading does carry risks, its flexibility and income potential continue to draw new participants.

Key Factors Driving the Popularity of Forex Trading

A confluence of economic, technological, regulatory and social factors has contributed to the popularity of forex trading South Africa:

Economic Conditions and Aspirations

A growing middle class with financial literacy has emerged in South Africa’s developing economy. This demographic seeks new opportunities to build wealth and gain financial freedom outside traditional employment. Forex trading allows South Africans to participate in global financial markets with relatively low barriers to entry.

Accessibility and Flexibility

The forex market’s 24/5 accessibility provides convenience and flexibility unmatched by traditional investments. South Africans can trade while maintaining school, jobs, and family responsibilities. Many traders start small-scale, devoting more time as skills and income develop. This flexibility makes trading extremely appealing, particularly for the youth and unemployed.

Geographic Advantage

Located between major trading hubs in Asia, Europe, and North America, South Africa resides in an optimal time zone to access liquid forex sessions. Active traders can potentially find opportunities any time of day. This maximizes options for South Africans to trade during their preferred hours.

Technology Removing Barriers

Advances in internet and mobile technology now enable South Africans, even in remote areas, to access trading platforms, apps, and educational resources. Previously prohibitive barriers to participating in global financial markets have been eliminated through tech.

Supportive Regulation

South Africa’s Financial Sector Conduct Authority oversees the forex industry, ensuring ethical handling of trader funds. This regulatory oversight gives South Africans the confidence to trade through reputable brokers. Regulation also attracts major international brokers to offer services locally.

Potential for High Returns

The possibility of leverage amplified profits attracts traders seeking to quickly grow capital. However, leverage also increases risk, making education on proper risk management essential. Despite the risks involved, the potential rewards convince many South Africans to explore forex trading.

Trading the South African Rand

The volatile South African Rand provides local traders an edge. Familiarity trading USD/ZAR and other rand pairs allows seasoned South African traders to capitalize on swings. The rand’s legal tender status across southern Africa also increases its trading volumes globally.

Lower Barriers to Education

A vast range of free educational materials, tutorials, and demo accounts are now accessible online in South Africa. Aspiring traders can learn forex basics without large investments through these resources. Forex education is now available to South Africans across the country.

The Influence of Social Media

Success stories spread through social media have motivated many South Africans to try forex trading. While these stories tend to exaggerate, they portray trading as an exciting path to wealth and freedom. Active online communities also engage new traders, providing discussion, tips, and encouragement.

A Great Opportunity

For South Africans seeking alternative income streams outside traditional employment, forex presents an enticing opportunity. Although certainly risky, the market’s flexibility, potential rewards, and low barriers to entry will likely continue attracting new traders looking to achieve financial freedom.

Is VP Chiwenga Clever By Believing ED’s Claim that Marry’s Guilty Of Attempted Murder?

Is VP Constantino Chiwenga clever when he believes Auxillia and Emmerson Mnangagwa’s claims that Marry tried to kill her husband something which doctors and the SA hospital say is a lie? Assuming that were true, which husband did ZANU PF member Silvia Maphosa try to kill when Mnangagwa’s bodyguards shot her dead falsely accusing her of being a Chamisa supporter on 1 Aug 2018, just so he (Mnangagwa) can return to State House?

Which husband did Mnangagwa’s Harare girlfriend try to kill when her body was found mutilated in her own flat in 2014?

Which husband did the thousands of Matebele women try to kill when Mnangagwa ordered the killings in the 1980s?

Top Zanu PF Official Praises Ian Smith

By A Correspondent

Killer Zivhu, a former ZANU PF member and ex-Member of Parliament for Chivi South, has expressed admiration for the strategic foresight of Ian Smith’s administration, highlighting a key difference between the current government and the colonial-era regime.

Zivhu stated that Smith excelled in long-term planning, an area he believes the current ZANU PF government should focus on improving.

“There’s a stark difference between us and them,” Zivhu remarked. “They focused on long-term plans, thinking 100 years ahead, while we tend to concentrate on immediate concerns like Christmas and elections.”

Zivhu emphasized that the ruling party needs to shift its approach and adopt a more forward-thinking strategy, noting, “We need to embrace a more futuristic mindset to bridge the gap.”

His comments come amidst ongoing debates about whether Ian Smith’s administration or the current leadership under President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been more effective. While many government officials and ZANU PF supporters have dismissed any comparison between Smith and Mnangagwa as an insult to Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle, Zivhu’s remarks suggest a different perspective on governance and planning.

Mandla Mpofu Returns Home After Struggling in Botswana Premier League

Sports Correspondent

Former Highlanders head coach Mandla Mpofu has reflected on his time in the Botswana Premier League after his departure from Sua Flamingoes just before the festive season break.

Unlike his compatriots Madinda Ndlovu and the late Rahman Gumbo, who left a lasting legacy in Botswana’s top league, Mpofu faced significant challenges in making his mark.

Mpofu was dismissed by Sua Flamingoes following a series of disappointing results that saw the team drop to fourth place, with just 13 points from 12 games.

Now back in Zimbabwe, Mpofu is focusing on new opportunities. “I had a good time in Botswana. It was a valuable learning experience, and I was happy with the team’s environment and the results we achieved. Before my departure, we were in fourth position, 12 points behind the leaders. Now I’m back home, supporting Tshisa’s junior development initiative,” Mpofu shared.

Before his tenure at Sua Flamingoes, the former Highlanders boss also had an unproductive spell with another Botswana club, Masitaoka.

The Undertaker Seeks Delay of ZIFA Elections Amid Appeal

By A Correspondent

The much-anticipated ZIFA elections, scheduled for January 25, could face a significant delay following reports that one of the disqualified presidential candidates, Benjani “The Undertaker” Mwaruwari, has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Mwaruwari, along with Walter Magaya, Farai Jere, and Themba Mliswa, was barred from contesting the elections after failing to meet the required eligibility criteria. Mwaruwari, in particular, was disqualified due to not having the necessary five “O” Levels.

However, it is now reported that Mwaruwari has formally appealed this disqualification to CAS, which could lead to the postponement of the elections until the legal process is resolved. If the appeal is upheld, the elections may be delayed until further notice.

Mnangagwa Friend Listed Among Corrupt Leaders In The World

By A Correspondent

The Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) has released its annual report, ranking Kenyan President William Ruto as the second most corrupt leader globally.

The report, which assesses corruption and organized crime across various governments, has drawn attention to widespread allegations of corruption involving top officials within Ruto’s administration.

The OCCRP’s findings have raised serious concerns about the extent of corruption within Kenya’s political elite, with specific focus on reports of embezzlement, misuse of public funds, and ties to corrupt business practices.

Despite Ruto’s promises to fight corruption and uphold transparency, his government has been embroiled in multiple scandals, which have tarnished his reputation and raised questions about the effectiveness of his anti-corruption efforts.

The ranking places Ruto just behind other global figures often associated with corruption, and this development is expected to lead to increased international pressure for accountability in his administration. Critics argue that this high rank highlights the urgent need for comprehensive reforms to address corruption at the highest levels of government in Kenya.

Government Confirms Schools Opening Dates

By Munacho Gwamanda- The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has reaffirmed that schools will officially open for the first term of 2025 on Tuesday, January 14, with the term set to conclude on Thursday, April 10.

This clarification follows a wave of misinformation circulating on social media claiming that schools would reopen earlier on Monday, January 6.

In a press statement issued on December 31, 2024, the Ministry urged the public to disregard these false claims and treat them with the contempt they deserve.

Officials emphasised that the official school calendar remains unchanged, and no new directives have been issued.

The Ministry extended its gratitude to educators, parents, guardians, and stakeholders for their unwavering dedication and support throughout 2024.

It encouraged them to continue demonstrating the same level of commitment in the upcoming academic year.

While the Ministry lauded educators for their dedication, it comes against the backdrop of persistent challenges faced by teachers, including poor remuneration and inadequate working conditions.

Teachers have long decried their low salaries, which are often eroded by inflation, leaving many struggling to meet basic needs.

Despite these hardships, educators have shown remarkable resilience, continuing to prioritise their duties and deliver quality education to learners.

Teachers have resorted to various means to sustain themselves, with some taking on extra jobs or engaging in small businesses to supplement their meagre incomes.

This has not deterred their commitment to education, as many remain on the frontlines, ensuring that schools function effectively.

Chivhayo Extends US$5K To A Woman He Embarrassed In Vic-Falls

By Showbiz Reporter-Controversial businessman and Zanu PF apologist Wicknell Chivhayo has compensated a woman he embarrassed at Victoria Falls International Airport.

Disembarking his private jet alongside his new wife, Chivhayo, last week began handing out $100 notes to airport staff as a gesture of goodwill during the festive season.

However, chaos erupted when non-staff passengers joined the scramble for cash.

Among the unintended recipients was a woman in a pink top and blue jeans, who was publicly shamed after Chivhayo realized his mistake and denied her further money.

Despite her pleas, the incident, captured on video, went viral. Social media was awash with ridicule, with many questioning her morality for attempting to secure the cash.

Facing public backlash for his handling of the situation, Chivhayo Thursday, took to his X account and issued an apology offering compensation to the humiliated woman.

Labelling her experience a “trial turned triumph,” Chivhayo announced he had allocated $5,000 as a goodwill gesture to repair her damaged reputation.

In his post, Chivhayo stated:
“To this woman, I want you to know that in life, what may seem like a moment of humiliation can become a point of breakthrough… Please urgently contact my lawyer, Mr. Sikhumbuzo Mpofu of Munangate & Associates, and collect USD5000 cash for the reputational damage this incident has caused.”

Chivhayo’s flamboyant lifestyle and history of contentious dealings have long been under scrutiny.

From government contracts to unexplained sources of wealth, his every move seems to stir public debate.

While some commend his generosity, others view it as a calculated move to distract from his past controversies.

For now, the woman at the center of the storm has a chance to turn public ridicule into a tangible win, thanks to an apology steeped in both humility and spectacle.

Anger Management And Road Safety

Driving requires more than just the physical ability to operate a vehicle; it demands total concentration and a sense of calm. How you feel behind the wheel can significantly impact your safety and that of others on the road. Whether you’re feeling relaxed, anxious, or hot-tempered, your emotions affect your judgment, reaction times, and overall driving behavior.

It’s essential to recognize the profound influence emotions have on your driving and actively work to control them. Emotional reactions can alter your decision-making process, leading to dangerous maneuvers or poor judgment. For example, anxiety might cause you to overreact or hesitate, while anger could lead to aggressive driving and reckless behavior. Stress can cloud your focus, increasing the likelihood of mistakes.

The key to maintaining safety on the road lies in emotional regulation. Regardless of the emotional state you’re in, never allow your feelings to dictate your actions behind the wheel. Losing control can lead to dangerous situations, not only putting yourself and your passengers at risk but also endangering other drivers and pedestrians.

Here are a few strategies for managing emotions while driving:

  1. Practice Deep Breathing: If you feel stressed or anxious, take a moment to focus on your breathing. Deep breaths can help calm your mind and restore a sense of focus.
  2. Take Breaks When Needed: If you’re feeling overwhelmed, it’s always better to pull over and take a short break. A few minutes away from the road can help you regain composure and clarity.
  3. Stay Calm in Traffic: Congested roads can be frustrating, but staying calm will help you make better decisions and avoid impulsive actions.
  4. Listen to Relaxing Music: Music can be a powerful tool for managing emotions. Choose calming tunes to reduce stress and help maintain a peaceful state of mind.
  5. Practice Patience: Remind yourself that delays and setbacks are a part of driving. Practicing patience will reduce the temptation to make hasty or risky decisions.

By recognizing the link between emotions and driving behavior, and by taking steps to manage your stress, you can significantly reduce the risk of accidents. Remember, driving is a responsibility that requires a clear mind and a calm demeanor. Never let emotions take the wheel.

Simba Bhora Boss Pulls Out Of ZIFA Polls?

Sports Correspondent

Simba Bhora president Simba “Buju” Ndoro has announced his withdrawal from the ZIFA executive committee elections, which are set to take place on January 25, 2025.

This decision comes despite Ndoro having successfully passed the ethics and integrity test, a key requirement for candidates seeking positions on the board.

Ndoro had initially entered the race for one of the six ordinary board member positions on the ZIFA executive committee, a highly anticipated election that has attracted considerable attention.

His decision to pull out has raised questions about his future involvement in Zimbabwean football governance.

While the reasons behind his withdrawal have not been fully disclosed, it is believed that Ndoro may have reassessed his position or faced challenges that led to his decision.

His exit leaves a vacancy for one of the board member positions, intensifying the competition among the remaining candidates.

The ZIFA executive committee election is expected to be a crucial event for the future direction of Zimbabwean football, with several high-profile figures and key players vying for leadership positions.

Mnangagwa Ditches War Veterans

By A Correspondent

A recent survey conducted by the Zanu PF Operation Restore Legacy Facebook page has highlighted the government’s failure to address the concerns of war veterans, with the performance of War Veterans Minister Monica Mavhunga drawing particularly harsh criticism.

The survey, published on Wednesday, offers a detailed analysis of her ministry’s performance, which has sparked growing dissatisfaction among former liberation fighters and their supporters.

The evaluation scores given to Minister Mavhunga’s handling of war veterans’ issues are alarming. According to the survey, her performance in key areas has been rated poorly, particularly in providing essential support and services to veterans of Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle. The survey’s findings are as follows:

Support for Veterans: 2/10

Access to Healthcare for Veterans: 3/10

Pension & Financial Support: 2/10

Community Reintegration Programs: 0/10

Crisis Response: 1/10

This results in a dismal overall score of 1.6/10, further illustrating the extent to which war veterans feel neglected by the current administration. The survey’s authors also included a direct question to followers: “Do you agree???”

This question echoes the frustration of many Zimbabweans who feel that the government has not honored its promises to those who fought for the country’s independence.

The poor ratings for Minister Mavhunga come amid mounting complaints from war veterans regarding unmet promises and deteriorating conditions. Issues such as lack of healthcare, delayed pension payments, and insufficient community reintegration programs have been persistent concerns for this group.

Many war veterans, who are key supporters of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his government, are now expressing growing discontent.

The negative assessment of Mavhunga’s performance underscores a broader perception that the Mnangagwa administration has failed to meet the expectations of the nation’s war veterans.

Despite their role in Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle, veterans have complained about being sidelined in favor of other government priorities, leading some to question the government’s commitment to the very people who helped establish the nation’s independence.

The survey’s damning results reflect a growing rift between the government and war veterans, raising concerns about Mnangagwa’s leadership and his ability to address the grievances of one of the country’s most important constituencies.

As war veterans continue to voice their frustrations, the government may be forced to reassess its approach and find more effective ways to honor their sacrifices and support their welfare.

According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the accident took place around 8 pm and involved an Isuzu KB 250 and an overloaded Toyota Probox carrying 13 passengers.

The police report stated that the Isuzu KB 250 side-swiped the Toyota Probox, which had exceeded its recommended passenger capacity. The victims’ bodies were taken to the Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital mortuary, while the injured were admitted to the same hospital for treatment.

The accident highlights concerns about road safety and potential issues with vehicle regulation enforcement.

Zivhu Slams ZIMRA for Tormenting Struggling Citizens

By A Correspondent

Zanu PF official Killer Zivhu has strongly criticized the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) for its treatment of the country’s most vulnerable citizens.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Zivhu condemned what he referred to as “anti-people tactics” by the tax agency, accusing them of exacerbating the suffering of struggling families.

Zivhu expressed his concerns, saying, “Others are celebrating, but how can we be happy when ZIMRA’s harsh tactics are suffocating our struggling families?

They’re draining the life out of those already bleeding.”

He called for unity among traders, urging them to stand against what he views as unfair practices. “Calling all traders! Let’s take a stand against ZIMRA’s unfair practices.

If they want tax from informal traders, we demand a seat at the table to negotiate fair terms. No seizing livelihoods without dialogue!”

The Zanu PF official also expressed frustration at ZIMRA’s shift in priorities, questioning its integrity. He said, “Concerned about ZIMRA’s shift from ‘carrying the citizen’s load’ to allowing smuggling, taking bribes & seizing goods later.
Is this incompetence or intentional?”

Zivhu warned that ZIMRA’s actions could have severe consequences for the nation, particularly for children.

“The actions of ZIMRA will have devastating consequences. Many children will be forced to drop out of school. Some may even nostalgically yearn for the days of colonial rule, opting for stability and food over independence and poverty.”

In response to Zivhu’s comments, a government source defended ZIMRA, explaining that the authority’s actions are guided by existing laws.

“ZIMRA derives its mandate from stipulated laws, and customs officers are simply enforcing laws that are already in place,” the source said.

“Pinning the blame on ZIMRA is very selective, especially considering that it is given quarterly (broken down into monthly) targets.”

Varakashi Vorakasha Mutsvangwa…

By A Correspondent

The Zanu PF Operation Restore Legacy Facebook page recently published a survey evaluating the performance of government ministers in 2024, and Women Affairs Minister Monica Mutsvangwa has received a particularly poor rating.

The analysis, posted on Wednesday, paints a stark picture of her performance in key areas related to gender equality and women empowerment.

The survey’s findings are as follows:

Promotion of Gender Equality: 2/10

Women Empowerment in Decision-Making: 3/10

Access to Finance for Women Entrepreneurs: 1/10

Development & Support to SMEs: 2/10

Launch of Community Development Projects: 1/10

This leads to an overall score of 1.3/10.

The Zanu PF Facebook page included a direct question to followers, asking, “Do you agree???” in response to the low ratings.

The criticism of Minister Mutsvangwa’s performance has sparked discussions, as the evaluation seems to reflect broader concerns regarding the administration of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Some observers believe that this poor assessment is indicative of the failure of Mnangagwa’s government to deliver on its promises, particularly in addressing the needs of women and small-scale enterprises.

The survey underscores the growing dissatisfaction within certain factions of the ruling party regarding the government’s ability to meet expectations in crucial sectors like gender equality and economic empowerment.

Joy As Capitec Bank Restores ZEP Holders’ Accounts

South Africa- Capitec Bank has restored the accounts of Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP) holders, bringing relief to thousands affected by a recent freeze.

The accounts were suspended during the New Year following the expiry of the ZEP on November 28, 2024.

However, the South African Home Affairs Minister, Leon Schreiber, extended the permit’s validity by another 12 months, pushing the expiration date to November 28, 2025.

Bank accounts linked to permits, such as work or study permits, are often automated to close upon the permit’s expiry.

Despite the extension, this procedural automation may have led to the freezing of ZEP holders’ accounts.

ZEP holders are now advised to visit their banks to update their permit details and ensure continued access to their accounts.

Ngqabutho Mabhena, Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Community in South Africa, criticised Capitec’s initial decision, highlighting the significant disruption it caused for Zimbabweans who rely on these accounts for vital transactions, including supporting families in Zimbabwe.

The ZEP program, introduced in 2010, granted temporary legal status to over 180,000 Zimbabweans fleeing political and economic instability.

Initially valid for four years, it has been periodically renewed, though its future remains uncertain amidst mounting political and economic pressures in South Africa.

The extension offers ZEP holders more time to regularise their status or explore alternative solutions while financial institutions align with the updated policy.

What Makes the Forex Market the Largest Financial Market in the World

The Forex, or FX, market is presently the largest financial market globally, with recent estimates placing its daily trading volume above $7 trillion. To fully appreciate its unparalleled size and liquidity, one must first ask: What is forex trading and how does it work? This understanding is key to recognizing why the market serves as a haven for everyone, from individual traders to multinational corporations and even central banks. Appreciation of such dominance requires an examination of those singular characteristics and dynamics that set the Forex market apart from the rest.

 Unparalleled Liquidity, Unparalleled Accessibility

One of the top reasons for the Forex market’s unparalleled size is huge liquidity. On a day-to-day basis, trillions of dollars being traded grant any currency the ultimate ability to instantly be changed or sold without its price shifting hugely. Such unprecedented liquidity in turnover is critically demanded by worldwide trading and investment exchange rates that usually are steady.

Operating around the clock, five days a week, the Forex market is available for traders of every time zone in the world. Unlike any other traditional stock markets, which are confined to an hour of operation, Forex shifts with seamless ease from one global financial center to the next: from Asia across to Europe and finally to North America. This constant flux guarantees an open window of trading opportunity at any given time and speaks to the enormous size of this market.

A Global Imperative to Trade and Investment

The Forex market is very instrumental in international trade and investment. Companies involved in cross-border transactions require currency exchanges for the settlement of payments, hedging against currency risks, and cost containment. For instance, an exporter in Europe receiving payment in US dollars would need to convert the funds into euros, adding to the daily trading volume.

In addition, multinational corporations and institutional investors also participate in the Forex market to manage their exposure to currency fluctuations. The huge volume of these transactions taking place across the globe underlines the importance of the Forex market, making it the largest financial market.

A Diverse Range of Participants

There has been a far from homogeneous set of participants in a Forex market. All have moved into the currency market for their own purposes. This said, Central Banks venture into the currency market in order perhaps to stabilize that respective economy or on the other side steer rates of inflation /or interest into desirable limits. Commercial banks induce the biggest width of business out here either on behalf of their patrons or on your respective company.

Institutional investors, such as hedge funds and mutual funds, use Forex trading to diversify their portfolios or hedge against political and economic risks. Empowered by online trading platforms, retail traders have also entered the market in significant numbers. The diversity of participants ensures constant activity and contributes to the market’s immense size.

 The Influence of Technological Advances

This in return makes Forex trading more available with the invention of new technologies. Online services, automated trading systems, and algorithms have nowadays greatly improved how participants can execute precise, quick trades, whereas mobile phones with apps and real-time data feeds mean that even the smallest traders can receive equal opportunities just like the professionals.

These changes have not only widened the pool of participants but also increased trading volumes since more market participants can enter and exit positions rapidly. Technology has also promoted transparency and competition, guaranteeing fairer pricing and tighter spreads, which are further attracting traders.

The Role of Leverage and Speculation

The significant role of leverage in the Forex market is to amplify trading activity. By enabling traders to hold large positions with relatively small capital, leverage amplifies potential gains and risks. This feature appeals to speculators who seek to profit from short-term price movements, further driving daily trading volumes. Adding to this size is the speculative nature of Forex trading. Currencies are influenced by everything from economic data and geopolitical events to the actions of central banks. It is this variation that traders try to exploit for profit, adding to the dynamism and liquidity of the market.

 Conclusion

Such attributes as unequaled liquidity, accessibility, importance to trade, and investment make the Forex market the biggest among all financial markets. In addition, its participants, technology, and speculative possibilities increase its attractiveness. It serves as the platform for world commerce and as an arena for speculation, holding its position as a part of the global financial system that no other market has achieved in either size or importance.

ZEP Holders Lose Bank Accounts

South Africa- Capitec Bank has frozen the accounts of Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP) holders, leaving thousands grappling with disrupted financial transactions and remittances.

This action comes despite the South African government’s recent extension of the ZEP validity.

On November 28, 2024, South African Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber announced a 12-month extension for ZEPs, pushing the expiration date to November 28, 2025.

The extension was intended to provide relief and allow ZEP holders more time to regularise their status or explore alternative solutions.

However, the closure of accounts by Capitec has raised serious concerns about inconsistencies in the interpretation of the extension and its implications for financial institutions.

Ngqabutho Mabhena, Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Community in South Africa, criticised the bank’s decision, highlighting the distress it has caused for Zimbabweans who depend on these accounts for essential financial activities, including supporting families back home.

The ZEP, introduced in 2010, offered temporary legal status to Zimbabweans fleeing economic and political turmoil.

Initially valid for four years, it has since been periodically renewed, with over 180,000 beneficiaries using the permit to build livelihoods in South Africa.

However, its future has remained uncertain amid growing political and economic pressures within South Africa.

The freezing of accounts highlights broader challenges faced by migrants in South Africa, underscoring a complex intersection of policy, economic integration, and social inclusion.

Advocacy groups and ZEP holders have called for clearer communication and a unified approach to ensure compliance with the government’s directives without further marginalising permit holders.

Procedurally, bank accounts linked to permits, such as study or work permits, are often automated to close upon the expiry of the associated permit.

This may have occurred with ZEP accounts, initially set to expire on November 28, 2024.

However, since the ZEP validity has been extended to November 28, 2025, holders are advised not to panic.

Instead, they should visit their respective banks to update their permit information and ensure their accounts remain active.

SADC Issues Dangerous False-Statement Misrepresenting Mozambican Crisis as “Tension” and “Hostilities”

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has come under fire for issuing a statement that falsely characterizes the situation in Mozambique as one of “hostilities” and “tension” destroying property and infrastructure. Contrary to these claims, multiple live videos have surfaced showing that the destruction of property and looting of businesses are being orchestrated solely by the Frelimo government. These acts of sabotage are reportedly intended to falsely implicate civilians and the opposition.

Observers have criticized SADC’s narrative as a deliberate distortion of facts. The “tension” narrative being pushed by SADC appears eerily similar to tactics advised by the Daddy character Zimbabwean journalist Hopewell Chin’ono, who previously suggested that the Zimbabwean army accuse opposition leader Nelson Chamisa and civil society of creating “tension” as a pretext for silencing them permanently. Critics argue that this script has been imported into Mozambique to justify Frelimo’s repressive actions and deflect accountability.

Hopewell Chin’ono advice to military to falsely accuse the civil society of caution “tension”
The SADC statement

SADC’s failure to acknowledge the clear evidence of Frelimo’s agents destroying infrastructure and staging these events has cast doubt on the regional bloc’s neutrality. The statement calling for the “cessation of hostilities” and “dialogue” is seen by many as an attempt to mask the government-sponsored terror that has been documented extensively.

Community Comments

The statement has sparked outrage among the public, with many accusing SADC of complicity and aiding Frelimo’s propaganda campaign.
• Manuel Luacute Manuel (@Manuel…):
“SADC thought they could sell this same story here as in other places, but Mozambicans are not buying it. Frelimo has been exposed!”
• Wilker Dias (@wilkerDias13):
“✊? This shows how far they’ll go to silence the truth. Stand strong, Mozambicans!”
• Chris Navio (@Biggblazo):
“How can SADC talk about hostilities when it’s obvious it’s Frelimo destroying the country? Crooked and biased!”

As Mozambicans continue to call for accountability, regional and international observers are closely watching SADC’s next moves. Many demand that the bloc address the real perpetrators of violence rather than perpetuating a narrative designed to shield Frelimo from scrutiny. The focus now shifts to whether SADC will amend its stance or double down on its questionable framing of the crisis.

Structured Language Analysis: The Dangerous Legal Position Imposed by the SADC Chairperson

The language used in the SADC statement regarding Mozambique raises significant concerns about its legal and moral implications. The analysis below highlights the inherent dangers in the narrative crafted by SADC Chairperson Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan and its potential repercussions.

  1. Framing of “Hostilities”

SADC Statement:
“We are deeply concerned by the continued loss of lives, injuries, destruction of private property and public infrastructure.”

Analysis:
The use of the phrase “continued loss of lives” and “destruction of property” assumes and implies widespread, ongoing hostilities involving multiple parties. However, evidence points to a singular actor—the Frelimo government—engaging in acts of destruction and violence. By omitting the identification of perpetrators, SADC creates a false equivalency that shifts responsibility away from the government and potentially implicates innocent civilians or opposition groups.

Dangerous Legal Implication:
This broad framing could justify future state-sponsored violence under the guise of “containing hostilities” or “restoring order.” It also exposes civilians and opposition groups to baseless legal accusations, escalating human rights violations without accountability for the true perpetrators.

  1. Call for Restraint from “All Parties”

SADC Statement:
“SADC calls upon all parties to exercise restraint and refrain from actions that escalate violence and unrest.”

Analysis:
The call for “all parties” to exercise restraint implies the existence of multiple conflicting groups contributing to the violence. However, live video evidence and eyewitness reports show that the destruction is orchestrated exclusively by Frelimo government agents. This language falsely distributes blame and dilutes accountability.

Dangerous Legal Implication:
By framing the situation as involving “all parties,” the opposition and civilians could be wrongfully targeted for actions they did not commit. This narrative provides legal cover for the government to justify further repression under the pretext of responding to “escalation.”

  1. Failure to Verify Claims

SADC Inaction:
The statement makes no reference to verified evidence, nor does it mention any on-the-ground investigations, such as video calls or consultations with eyewitnesses.

Analysis:
Despite the availability of live video footage showing Frelimo agents destroying property, SADC failed to independently verify the situation. This omission discredits the statement’s neutrality and reliability, as it is based on unsubstantiated claims rather than observable facts.

Dangerous Legal Implication:
The lack of verification creates a legal vacuum where false narratives can flourish. This negligence could embolden Frelimo to escalate its actions, knowing that regional organizations like SADC will not investigate or challenge their claims.

  1. The Narrative of “Tension”

SADC Statement:
“The current situation has caused significant economic challenges on the nation, disrupted cross-border trade, and hindered the free movement of people.”

Analysis:
By emphasizing “tension” without attributing its cause, SADC mirrors tactics previously used in Zimbabwe, where journalist Hopewell Chin’ono advised authorities to frame opposition and civil society as instigators of unrest. This language obscures the deliberate role of the government in manufacturing these conditions.

Dangerous Legal Implication:
This framing legitimizes crackdowns on opposition groups and civil society under the pretext of maintaining stability. It further enables the government to suppress dissent while claiming to act in the interest of economic and social order.

  1. Legal and Moral Abdication

Omission of Responsibility:
SADC refrains from naming the Frelimo government as the primary actor responsible for the violence and destruction, despite overwhelming evidence.

Analysis:
This omission represents a failure to hold the Mozambican government accountable. Instead, it creates a moral and legal shield for the perpetrators while discrediting civilians and opposition groups.

Dangerous Legal Implication:
This abdication of responsibility may lead to impunity for government agents involved in violence and destruction. It also undermines the legal recourse for victims, as SADC’s framing denies the existence of a clear perpetrator.

Conclusion

The SADC statement’s ambiguous language and failure to verify facts pose severe legal and ethical risks. By framing the situation as involving “hostilities” and “all parties,” SADC enables the Mozambican government to exploit this narrative for further repression. Its omissions and generalizations create a dangerous precedent where state violence can be justified and victims left without legal protection.

To address this, SADC must:
1. Publicly acknowledge the evidence of government-orchestrated violence.
2. Refrain from generalized language that shifts blame to innocent parties.
3. Conduct transparent investigations into the events, ensuring accountability for the true perpetrators.

Failing this, SADC risks complicity in perpetuating violence and undermining regional stability.

Mnangagwa Twins Buy ED Terror Leader’s  Mother’s Coffin

By Munacho Gwamanda—President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s twin sons, Sean and Collins, along with their brother Emmerson Jr., have sponsored part of the funeral costs for Midlands Provincial Affairs Minister Owen “Mudha” Ncube’s mother, Edith Ncube.

Edith Ncube died over the weekend and was laid to rest on Wednesday.

Speaking at the funeral, Mudha, revealed that the Mnangagwa brothers had purchased the coffin for his late mother.

“My brothers Sean, Collins, and Emmerson Junior have shown their support by providing my mother’s coffin,” he said, further solidifying his close ties to the First Family.

Mudha and ED son

The gesture highlights the enduring relationship between Mnangagwa and Ncube, which stretches back decades and transcends political alliances.

Ncube, often referred to by his nickname “Mudha,” is a longtime ally of Mnangagwa and has played a pivotal role in his political and economic manoeuvres in the Midlands.

Social media posts from Zanu PF activist @Cde Chibage TINO also underscored the First Family’s involvement in the funeral. “Mrs. Edith Ncube, the mother of Honourable Owen Ncube, was laid to rest today. Special thanks to Collins, Sean, and Emmerson Jr. Mnangagwa for their generous contributions,” read one post.

Mnangagwa’s wife, Auxillia, also attended the funeral, further underlining the family’s support during Ncube’s time of grief.

Ncube’s connection to Mnangagwa dates back to the 1990s, when he reportedly served as a key figure in Mnangagwa’sgold mining operations in Kwekwe, Zhombe, and Gokwe.

His loyalty was rewarded after the 2017 military coup, which saw Mnangagwa rise to power.

Ncube was appointed State Security Minister shortly thereafter.

Despite internal Zanu PF power struggles that led to his dismissal, Ncube was reinstated as Midlands Provincial Affairs Minister after the 2023 elections.

This move signaled Mnangagwa’s continued reliance on Ncube as a trusted lieutenant, even amid allegations of orchestrating violence, political coercion, and benefiting from illicit gold trade in the province.

Critics argue that Ncube’s role as a political enforcer has solidified his controversial reputation.

Allegations of orchestrating violence against opposition members and securing Zanu PF’s control over Midlands through coercion have tarnished his tenure.

The death of his mother comes at a time when Ncube’s influence remains a subject of scrutiny, raising questions about his ongoing role in Mnangagwa’s political machinery.

This funeral not only served as a family affair but also highlighted the complex web of relationships and loyalties that underpin Mnangagwa’s grip on power in Zimbabwe.

Mnangagwa Caught In Magunje Villagers Eviction Saga

We, as Chasara and Kapere Villagers in Ward 11, Magunje Constituency, Hurungwe District, Mashonaland West Province, write this open letter to you, His Excellency Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa. .

We are being displaced by a proposed cement project by WHI-ZIM, a joint venture between Lebanmon Investment and West International Holdings.

We are seeking your intervention to save us in this matter.
We welcome the investment in our district, but we decry the bad sitting Your Excellency.

Some of our family members were relocated in 1993 because of the construction of Magunje Dam.The cement site is less than 1.5 km away,in the dam’s catchment area and upstream. The site is also less than 100m from one of the tributaries that feeds into the main river,Murereshi, where the dam is on.
ZINWA and EMA have both confirmed the site to be ok.
The proximity to the dam will, with time, pollute the tributaries in the vicinity.
However, we note the following:
ZINWA is the custodian of all surface and underground water bodies but not responsible for aquatic organisms, domestic, humans, animals that rely on the dam, and its catchment areas .
As long as the factory is upstream of the dam, negative environmental effects can not be downplayed .
We challenge both ZINWA and EMA to make available which site plan they used in their assessments because at the time these ‘reports’ were made public, the site plan even up to date, are not yet available from the Department of Physical Planning.

Our constitutional rights have been violated.
We were never consulted at all on this matter.
Neither were we engaged in the processes as everything was done outside.
We raised our concerns in letters we have written to the Ministry of Local Government, Mashonaland West State and Devolution Minister, District Development Coordinator, Hurungwe Rural District Council and there has not been any response.
We engaged parliamentary portfolio committee on lands, they too have not responded yet.

We are very much aware of a letter from Vice President Kembo Mohadi asking Hurungwe Rural District Council Chair, Mary Mliswa, to ‘facilitate for the acquisition of that land’ dated 5 June, 2024.
The reason we have been writing to the various government departments is to seek clarification on whether ‘that land’ is our fields and pastures or there was some misunderstanding somewhere, otherwise we would have put the case to rest with at least an understanding.

Given that the investor had been allocated 50ha in Magunje Growth Point Industrial Park by HRDC in a letter dated 24 January, 2024, we were of the opinion the investor had been well catered for in a hub where it was deemed suitable for cement production.

We have hung on to Presidential Affairs Press Statement that investors, industry and all commercial entities must not occupy rural communities fields and pastures and kuti hakuna munhu mutema mu Zimbabwe asina musha nemafuro with such hope but we seem to have hit a brick wall because every department is turning a deaf ear.

Chief Chanetsa has allocated 135ha, part of which are our fields and pastures to the investors and left us at the mercy of the investor to compensate and relocate us according to the EMA Certificate, 10000034346 conditions.
In The Herald newspaper article published earlier this year, we read that no one would be affected and relocated.

Your Excellency, you have emphasized all the time that as we embrace private sector led development and industrialisation, villagers must be consulted and engaged and their views taken on board.
We have not been engaged nor consulted.
There is a deafening silence.
Kune ninga rino vigwa vana Chief Nematombo as we speak, raka vhurwa rika iswa peg marking ye red and white kumusoro nepasi
(A sacred cave where Chief Nematombo is buried was opened. A red and white peg marks the place now)

We are supposed to have prepared for the agricultural season, half our fields have been taken over, and the pastures. The said investors, accompanied by armed police, occupied our fields and gardens one night in July 2024.
Our fellow villagers were arrested when they went to investigate movements and lights in the fields.
Subsequently, four elderly women were arrested as they tried to gain access to their gardens, and another one tried to do land preparation. The matters are still before the courts.
The gardens were burnt down, banana plantations and cassava destroyed, including the seasonal crops

It has become very apparent that your Excellency, ndimi mega muno kwanisa kuti betsera nenhau iyi as no government department according to our understanding, is willing to engage us.

We remain hopeful that your listening ear will save us.

We, the displaced villagers of Chasara and Kapere, Ward 11,
Magunje Constituency.

Man Beaten To Death For Stopping Fight

By A Correspondent

A senseless act of violence has claimed the life of 34-year-old Douglas Dube in Gokwe, Zimbabwe. According to a statement released by the police, Dube was brutally murdered on December 27, 2024, after attempting to stop a fight near Makwakwa Business Centre.

“The victim had intervened to stop the suspect, Descent Gumbi, from assaulting Trust Manyemwe, who was being accused of dating the suspect’s girlfriend,” said the police. “The victim succumbed to the injuries on the way to the hospital on December 28, 2024.”

Police reports indicate that Dube was hit with a knobkerrie all over his body, resulting in fatal injuries. The suspect, Descent Gumbi, 22, is currently on the run, and the police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

“We invite anyone with information to report at any nearest Police Station,” said the police.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the need for conflict resolution and violence prevention strategies.

Prisons Queen Stabbed To Death

By Crime and Courts Reporter- A dedicated member of the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) and a talented player for the Prisons Queens Soccer Team, Priscilla Tshuma, was stabbed to death by her uncle on Christmas Day in Bulilima District, Matabeleland South.

The attacker, Khuliso Tshuma (35), is an x-convict who recently benefited from the Presidential amnesty.

The late Priscilla Tshuma

The incident occurred at around 8 am on Christmas day.

Nine years ago, Khuliso was convicted of raping Ms Tshuma and sentenced to prison in 2016.

He was released in April this year under the Presidential amnesty programme.

The officer commanding police in Bulilima-Mangwe District, Chief Superintendent Cabinet Thomas, confirmed the gruesome murder, saying investigations are underway.
“The suspect used an Okapi knife to stab the deceased twice, once in the neck and once on the arm. Priscilla was sweeping the house while the suspect was drinking beer on the veranda. Without warning, he attacked her,” he said.

Ms Tshuma’s grandmother, Ms Sibusisiwe Ndlovu, attempted to administer first aid but was unsuccessful.

Khuliso fled the scene immediately after the attack but was apprehended later that day, about seven kilometres from the crime scene.

The Okapi knife used in the attack was recovered by the police.

Chief Supt Thomas said their investigations revealed the suspect’s criminal history, including his prior conviction for raping the deceased in 2016.

“We arrested the suspect some seven kilometres away from the scene of the crime. Investigations revealed that the suspect is an ex-convict who had been incarcerated for raping the now deceased,” he said.

Chief Supt Thomas also urged the public to refrain from violence and work towards fostering peace during the festive season.

“As we are still in the middle of the festive season, everyone ought to live in harmony to avoid regrettable situations. We further appeal to members of the public who have information on criminals who fled after committing crimes to notify us,” he said.

ZPCS spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Meya Khanyezi expressed condolences on behalf of the organisation.

“As Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Tshuma family and loved ones during this difficult time.
“Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic event, and we are committed to ensuring that all necessary actions are taken to bring the culprit to book,” she said.
“Our thoughts are with the Tshuma family and the entire ZPCS family as we seek to find answers and bring justice to those affected.”

Zimbabwe Excluded From Top 100 Best-Performing CEOs in Africa in 2024

The chief executive role is a tough one to fill. From 2020 to 2024, about a quarter of the CEO departures in Africa were involuntary, according to our analysis. The fallout from these dismissals can be staggering: Forced turnover at the top costs shareholders millions of dollars in lost market value annually. Those figures are discouraging for directors with the hard task of anointing CEOs—and daunting to any leader aspiring to the C-suite. Many otherwise capable leaders and boards are getting something wrong. The question is, what?

The knock on most business leaders is that they don’t take the long view—that they’re fixated on achieving short-term goals to lift their pay. So which African CEOs delivered solid results over the long run? Our 2024 list of top performers provides an answer.

It is worth noting that most of Africa’s top-performing CEOs aren’t household names. The AfricanCEO magazine‘s ranking of CEOs is meant to be a measure of enduring success. We tracked and analysed each CEO’s performance starting from day one of his or her tenure. Our goal is to create a list that gets beyond the most recent quarterly or even annual results and truly evaluates long-term performance.

Our ranking is not based exclusively on hard stock market numbers. We looked at total shareholder return, as well as the change in each company’s market capitalization. (For more details, see “How We Calculated the Ranking.”)

We like that the ranking is based solidly on data and not on reputation or anecdote. Yet it also felt incomplete because it failed to account for the many aspects of leadership that go beyond mere market performance.

In the long term, social and environmental issues become financial issues. So, we took into account measuring each company’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance. For this, we relied on researching each company’s ESG or sustainability report. We now weigh long-term financial results at 80% and ESG performance at 20%.

Our methodology focuses on CEOs who took the reins before 2020 though there are a few exceptions. We analysed the performance of those CEOs as well, using the returns generated from 2020 onward. The decision to add CEOs who began before 2020 also shook up our ranking. About seventy percent of this year’s top 100 started the job before then, meaning few are new in the CEO role.

At the AfricanCEO magazine, we continue to experiment with the perfect measure of a CEO’s worth, and we look forward to getting our readers’ input. Are we right to include these critical, but less easily quantifiable, measures?

Are there further ways of fully evaluating companies and their CEOs?

Our view is that, in an era of big data and greater transparency, consumers and investors increasingly want to understand a company’s culture and values. They want to analyse its social behaviour, not just its share price. These new measurements will only get better over time.

Peter SaSellu, the publisher and editor of the AfricanCEO magazine argues that “the business of business is longer business.” As Peter puts it, “I would change that to say the business of business is business—but with a long-term perspective.” And in that calculation, social and environmental issues are critical.

What’s included and how did we do the ranking?

The 100 CEOs represent 18 nationalities and 100 companies located in 18 African countries. Women represent 15 percent of their male counterparts, which is a significant move towards having more women in leadership or CEO roles in large corporations on the continent.

However, many CEOs in Francophone countries often move from country to country, making it difficult to track their progress. We also took into consideration stability on the job or job retention as a CEO. With this, we discovered that Nigerian CEOs last longer on the job or in the CEO position when compared to CEOs in other regions or mostly Francophone countries. Little or Less information is “readily” available on Francophone country CEOs as to those of the English-speaking CEOs or regions. This posed a major challenge in our analysis.

To make it an Africa-centred initiative, only CEOs who are of African origin or nationals of African countries are considered, even though non-African or foreign CEOs are heading companies with larger assets in many African markets.

In conclusion, Nigerian CEOs top the list because they have more available information compared to CEOs from other countries or regions, followed by Kenya and South Africa with more accessible information such as CEO tenure, age, education and qualification, date of appointment, etc.

About the African CEO magazine’s Top 100 CEOs List

The African CEO magazine’s Top 100 CEOs in Africa annual list is an initiative to profile the Best-Performing CEOs on the continent. The list is calculated by measuring financial returns during each CEO’s entire tenure and factoring in two assessments of each company’s environmental, social, and governance practices. Africa’s Top 100 CEOs initiative will help drive discussion of how society should measure a business leader’s performance. The goal of the listing is to help promote discussions in the business environment focusing on leadership, growth/return on investment, ESG, and sustainability across Africa.

The editorial team considers and priorities CEOs whose companies are listed on a stock exchange because their companies are regulated because they follow strict rules and in some instances, are expected to meet certain reporting standards, such as good corporate governance, sustainability reporting, accounting, and financial reporting, etc. to meet stakeholder and shareholder expectations.

Overzealous Policing Backfires As Top Cop Killed, Another Injured At Roadblocks

By Crime and Courts Reporter- A senior police officer based in Mvurwi tragically lost his life after being struck by a haulage truck at a roadblock, while another officer sustained injuries in a separate incident.

Both cases have reignited public anger over the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s (ZRP) heavy-handed tactics.

The fatal accident occurred on December 30 along the Mazowe-Centenary Road.

Commissioner Paul Nyathi, ZRP spokesperson, confirmed the incident, saying:

“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 30/12/24 at around 1750 hours at the 42 km peg along Mazowe-Centenary Road, Mvurwi, in which a police officer was killed. The officer was conducting roadblock duties when a Freightliner Columbia truck, traveling towards Mazowe, evaded the checkpoint and hit him on the head with the trailer. The truck then collided with a stationary Nissan X-Trail vehicle. The officer was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mvurwi Hospital.”

In a separate incident on Monday, another officer was injured while directing traffic in Masvingo near the Chevron Hotel.

The officer sustained a swollen heel after being struck by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene.

The incidents have drawn attention to the widespread perception of police misconduct at roadblocks.

Motorists often accuse ZRP officers of harassment, extortion, and excessive force.

Common complaints include officers snatching car keys or confiscating driver’s licenses to coerce bribes for fabricated or trivial offenses.

These actions have fueled public resentment, with many viewing the police as adversaries rather than protectors.

Officers have also endangered public safety by physically confronting kombi (commuter omnibus) drivers, risking harm to passengers.

Outgoing Commissioner General Godwin Matanga, who succeeded Augustine Chihuri after the November 2017 coup, admitted early in his tenure that the police had alienated the public.

He apologised to the nation and pledged to professionalise the force—a promise many believe remains unfulfilled.

65 Dangerous Prisoners Escape Gallows

By Political Reporter- Over 65 prisoners facing the death penalty have escaped the gallows after the Government Tuesday abolished the death penalty.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa signed the Death Penalty Abolition Bill into law before he commenced his annual leave yesterday, effectively marking the end of capital punishment in the country’s legal statutes.

At least 65 convicts are facing the gallows in the country’s two maximum Prisons, Chikurubi and Khami, respectively.

Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Martin Rushwaya, made the announcement in an Extraordinary Government Gazette published yesterday.
“The following laws, which were assented to by His Excellency the President, are published in terms of section 131(6)(a) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe—Death Penalty Abolition Act [Chapter 9:26] (No. 4 of 2024),” reads the notice.

The Government’s decision to expunge the death penalty will see the country moving with international trends and best practices, as capital punishment has since been regarded as inhumane.

The Bill was initially introduced by Dzivaresekwa, a member of parliament, Mr Edwin Mushoriwa, before the government took over, given its importance.
Following the gazetting of the Act, a person convicted of murder in aggravating circumstances shall be liable to a jail term of between 20 years and life imprisonment.
In abolishing the death penalty, Clause Two of the Act reads as follows: “No court shall impose sentence of death upon a person for any offence, whenever committed, but instead shall impose whatever other competent sentence is appropriate in the circumstances of the  case.
“The Supreme Court shall not confirm a sentence of death imposed upon an appellant, whenever that sentence may have been imposed, but instead shall substitute whatever other competent sentence is appropriate in the circumstances of the case, no sentence of death, whenever imposed, shall be carried out.”

Mnangagwa Deletes Death Penalty

By Political Reporter- The Government has abolished the death penalty and pardoned all inmates who were on death row.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa signed the Death Penalty Abolition Bill into law before he commenced his annual leave yesterday, effectively marking the end of capital punishment in the country’s legal statutes.

The Bill, which sailed through Parliament last month, is set to save more than 65 convicts facing the gallows, as the Government takes bold steps to remove capital punishment from the statutes.

Mnangagwa Appoints Bushiri’s Son, Wicknell Chivayo Friend Acting President In Chiwenga’s Stead

The Nightmare Unfolding: Chiwenga Grapples with Mnangagwa’s Devastating Betrayal

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Constantino Chiwenga is sitting alone in his office, staring in disbelief at the official letter bearing the presidential crest. His hands tremble as he reads the words over and over again, each sentence cutting deeper than the last. It’s not just a routine announcement—it’s a dagger, carefully crafted and plunged straight into his back. The man who risked his life and reputation to secure Emmerson Mnangagwa’s rise to power is now watching his own political future being dismantled in broad daylight.

Kembo Mohadi—scandal-plagued, derided, and unworthy in the eyes of many—has been named acting president for a full 20 days. Chiwenga, the architect of the 2017 coup that ousted Robert Mugabe, has been relegated to a mere afterthought, given just 11 days to act before Mnangagwa returns. The letter is a clear signal: Mohadi, Shepherd Bushiri’s spiritual son and business associate of the controversial Wicknell Chivayo, is the favored one now.

Video: Shepherd Bushiri spiritual son Kembo Mohadi

Chiwenga slams the letter onto his desk, the sound reverberating in the cold, empty room. The betrayal is unmistakable, and the parallels to 2017 are impossible to ignore. Back then, Robert Mugabe handed power to a deputy in his final days—an ominous move that precipitated his own political demise. Now, Mnangagwa has done the same, leaving Zimbabwe in the hands of a man whose character is steeped in controversy and prophecy.

The words of Bushiri’s 2016 prediction come rushing back: “Kembo Mohadi will one day wear the crown.” Chiwenga’s stomach churns as he realizes the prophecy is no longer a distant threat—it’s unfolding before his very eyes. His boss, his comrade, the man whose presidency he secured, has turned him into a relic of the past. The mockery is unbearable, but the implications are worse. This is not just about humiliation; it’s about survival.

The letter is more than an insult—it’s a declaration of war. Chiwenga knows this move is not accidental. It’s deliberate, calculated, and designed to weaken him. He glances at the clock. Time is slipping away. If this is the beginning of the end, he must act swiftly and decisively. The room feels suffocating as he reaches for his phone. Plans must be made. A counterstrike must be executed. The coup-maker now finds himself on the brink of becoming the next casualty of Zimbabwe’s unrelenting political chessboard.

Harare—President Emmerson Mnangagwa has stirred controversy with his decision to entrust Vice President Kembo Mohadi with the role of acting president during his month-long vacation, bypassing Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, who will only assume the role for a brief period afterward. The decision has drawn sharp criticism and intense online debate, with many questioning the suitability of Mohadi for such a significant responsibility.

The press statement, dated December 30, 2024, outlined Mnangagwa’s vacation plans and confirmed that Mohadi would lead the country from December 31, 2024, to January 19, 2025. Chiwenga would take over only after Mohadi’s term ends. This has been interpreted by many as a deliberate sidelining of Chiwenga, who played a pivotal role in orchestrating the 2017 military coup that brought Mnangagwa to power.

Social media erupted with reactions, including heated exchanges. Prominent political commentator Obey Shava remarked, “VP Mohadi has been given 20 days as acting president whilst Chiwenga got 11. I hope Chiwenga will not feel that he has been unfairly treated. I hope he won’t think that he’s as half as valuable as Mohadi in the eyes of the President.” This comment quickly gained traction, sparking debate over the implications of Mnangagwa’s decision.

In response to critics, Shava added, “The irony of it… you might be the right candidate for the word ‘dofo’ which you’ve used against me. Go back and read the whole memo and immediately thereafter, beat your chest and say, ‘Ndiri dofo rine dzungu (I am a fool with no sense).’” His sharp retort highlighted the tensions and divisions the announcement has caused.

Meanwhile, another commenter, Makomborero Shoko, questioned the official memo, asking, “Where does it say to 1 February?” referring to the end of Chiwenga’s acting presidency. This reflects broader concerns over the ambiguity and potential manipulation of the timeline in the statement.

Kembo Mohadi’s appointment has drawn sharp criticism due to his controversial past, including his alleged ties to fugitive pastor Shepherd Bushiri and businessman Wicknell Chivayo. “How can we entrust the country to a man whose integrity is so questionable?” asked Rita Moyo, a civil society activist.

Analysts believe this decision could further deepen tensions within the ruling ZANU-PF party, with Chiwenga’s sidelining seen as a significant slight. “Chiwenga risked his life and career to bring Mnangagwa to power in 2017. This decision is not just a snub; it’s a calculated message,” said political analyst Tinashe Madondo.

The weeks ahead will be critical for Zimbabwe as the country watches Mohadi’s temporary leadership and anticipates Chiwenga’s brief stint. For now, the controversial decision has cast a shadow over Mnangagwa’s presidency and raised questions about the future dynamics within Zimbabwe’s leadership.

Is It Fair to Blame Transporters for Road Accidents?

By A Correspondent

The issue of road traffic accidents has once again sparked debate, with the government placing a significant amount of blame on transport operators. Recent statements from the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) urge transport operators to stop imposing unreasonable targets on drivers, claiming these pressures contribute to an increase in accidents. But is it fair to single out transporters for road crashes, and what role does the government play in ensuring road safety?

According to TSCZ statistics, 94 percent of road accidents are caused by human error. This figure underscores the importance of driver behavior in preventing accidents. However, TSCZ managing director Mr. Munesu Munodawafa emphasizes that unrealistic targets set by transport operators are pushing drivers to exceed their limits, resulting in dangerous driving practices, particularly speeding. “When you do an analysis of the accidents, particularly during this festive season, they are a result of speeding, and we believe they are a result of targets given to drivers that forces the driver to go beyond their limits,” he stated. “Our appeal to operators is to avoid giving those targets, they are not helpful, they endanger passengers.”

While transport operators’ role in creating a high-pressure environment for drivers cannot be overlooked, it’s crucial to ask: is it fair to place the blame entirely on them? Transport companies may prioritize timely deliveries or operational efficiency, but the drivers themselves are the ones who ultimately make decisions on the road. Human error, often under pressure, seems to be a primary contributor to accidents. However, are there broader systemic factors at play?

The government’s role in this issue is significant. The TSCZ’s call for safer practices highlights the lack of comprehensive regulation or enforcement in ensuring that transport operators prioritize safety over speed and efficiency. The government must enforce stricter regulations, hold transport companies accountable, and ensure that safety guidelines are effectively communicated and followed. Without robust policies, it is difficult to ensure that operators are not overburdening drivers with targets that compromise road safety.

In addition to holding transporters accountable, the government must continue its work on improving infrastructure, enhancing driver education, and enforcing road safety laws. “It is not just about blaming one party, but about creating a culture of safety on the roads,” Mr. Munodawafa said.

Ultimately, road safety is a shared responsibility. While transport operators must be mindful of the pressure they place on drivers, the government must ensure the implementation and enforcement of policies that support road safety. Both sectors need to work together to prevent the rising number of accidents.

President Chamisa’s Message of Hope as 2025 Beckons

By A Correspondent

As Zimbabweans prepare to welcome 2025, opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa has urged citizens to stay hopeful and united in the coming year.

In a heartfelt statement released on December 31, Advocate Chamisa reflected on the year gone by and offered a message of optimism for the future. He said, “GOODBYE 2024!! This is the last day of the year 2024. Enjoying the indigenous wild fruit sour plum (nhengeni). Thank you all for standing together this exciting year 2024. Good morning 2025! #Godisinit.”

Magpies Fly High, Stun Red Devils

First-half headers from Alexander Isak and Joelinton propelled Newcastle United into fifth place, while handing Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United side their third consecutive league defeat.

The action began early, with Isak scoring his 12th goal of the season in the 4th minute, heading in from a brilliant cross by Lewis Hall. Joelinton doubled the lead shortly after, making it 2-0 before the 20-minute mark. Although Manchester United showed signs of improvement as the match progressed, they never truly threatened to overturn the deficit.

Eddie Howe’s team climbed to 5th, just three points behind 4th-place Chelsea, who suffered a shock defeat to struggling Ipswich Town at Portman Road. Meanwhile, Manchester United remained in 14th.

Newcastle started the game with confidence, quickly going ahead 1-0 thanks to an expertly crafted build-up and a well-placed cross from Hall that Isak finished off with a header. The visitors extended their lead soon after, with Joelinton outjumping Lisandro Martinez to head the ball past Andre Onana. A potential third goal from Isak was ruled out for offside.

At the other end, Rasmus Hojlund came close with a shot just wide, and Casemiro missed an opportunity from close range after a misstep by Fabian Schar. United’s struggles were evident, with their lack of control in midfield allowing Newcastle to dominate.

The defeat marked a historic low for Manchester United, as it was the first time since 1979 that they had suffered three consecutive league losses at Old Trafford. Despite a few fleeting moments of pressure, Newcastle’s early goals proved enough to seal the victory.

How To Control Emotions for Safe Driving

Arteta Speaks On Saka Injury

Sports Correspondent

Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Bukayo Saka will be sidelined for at least “more than two months” following surgery on his injured hamstring.

The 23-year-old winger was forced off in the first half of Arsenal’s 5-1 victory over Crystal Palace on 21 December and was seen leaving the stadium on crutches.

After Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Ipswich Town on Friday, Arteta shed light on Saka’s injury.

“He had a procedure,” Arteta explained. “Everything went well, but unfortunately he will be out for many, many weeks. I said many weeks, so I think it will be more than two months. I don’t know exactly how much longer.

It will depend on how the scar tissue starts to heal in the first week or so, and the mobility of that. Let’s see, it’s very difficult to say.”

Saka’s injury comes at a critical point in the season, with Arsenal fighting on multiple fronts.

The team still has ongoing campaigns in the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, and League Cup. In January alone, Arsenal will play nine matches.

Chivayo Continues to Squander Looted Cash as Zimbabweans Struggle with Poverty

By A Correspondent

Controversial Zanu PF businessman Wicknell Chivayo is once again in the spotlight for his lavish spending, even as millions of Zimbabweans continue to struggle with poverty.

Chivayo, who has faced accusations of looting millions of dollars in State funds through his failed Gwanda project, seems undeterred by the mounting criticism. His actions have sparked outrage among many, including members of his own party.

On Monday, Zanu PF Varakashi took to Facebook to blast Chivayo for his extravagance. A post from the Zanu PF Operation Restore Legacy Facebook page read:

“While some are struggling to buy a bicycle worth 70 US dollars, there’s a son of the soil somewhere enjoying his New Private Jet worth 12 million US dollars, flying with his girlfriend.”

The post continued with a pointed proverb, criticizing the disparity between the rich and the poor:

“These are what we call lanes, I will leave you with a Proverb that says, ‘A rich man marries using his wealth, but a poor man marries using the strength of his manhood.'”

It concluded with another proverb reflecting the divide: “A rich man spanks with money but a poor man uses his bare rough hands.”

Chivayo’s continued display of wealth has fueled anger among many Zimbabweans who are facing a tough economic situation, highlighting the stark contrast between the elite and the struggling masses.

Mnangagwa Goes on Leave, Appoints Mohadi as Acting President

By A Correspondent

In a move that highlights ongoing power dynamics within Zimbabwe’s ruling Zanu PF party, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has announced he will begin his annual leave on December 31, lasting until early February.

In a statement issued on Monday, Acting Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, George Charamba, confirmed the details of Mnangagwa’s leave.

“The President plans to spend his vacation in the country and will be available for commitments requiring his personal attention as State President and SADC Chairperson,” Charamba said.

During Mnangagwa’s absence, Vice President Kembo Mohadi will take over as Acting President.

“Vice President Kembo Mohadi will be the Acting President from this Tuesday until the 19th of January,” Charamba explained. “After that, Vice President General (Retired) Dr. Constantino Chiwenga will assume the role of Acting President until President Mnangagwa returns in early February.”

The decision to rotate the acting presidency between Mohadi and Chiwenga has fueled speculation about internal power struggles within Zanu PF, with observers closely monitoring the movements of the country’s leadership.

Mnangagwa’s Gold Runner & Midlands Terror King’s Mother Dies

By Munacho Gwamanda—President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s top aide and gold runner and Midlands Provincial Affairs Minister Owen “Mudha” Ncube’s mother, Edith Ncube, has reportedly passed away.

Zanu PF activist @Cde Chibage TINO announced the death on social media.

The post, which did not disclose the cause of her death, read:

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Edith Ncube, the beloved mother of our esteemed Zanu-PF Midlands Province Secretary for Security, Honourable Owen Ncube. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Honourable Ncube and his entire family during this time.”

Several senior Zanu PF officials including Farai Marapira and the party’s National Political Commissar, Munyaradzi Machacha, attended the funeral Monday.

Farai Marapira & Owen Ncube

Ncube, a longtime ally of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has a history deeply intertwined with the Midlands’ political and economic undercurrents.

Known by his nickname “Mudha,” Ncube reportedly served as a linchpin in Mnangagwa’s gold mafia operations across Kwekwe, Zhombe, and Gokwe, activities dating back to the 1990s.

Mudha’s influence was cemented when Mnangagwa appointed him as State Security Minister shortly after orchestrating a military coup to unseat Robert Mugabe in November 2017.

However, internal party power struggles within Zanu PF’s Midlands Province eventually led to his dismissal.

Despite this, Mnangagwa reinstated Ncube after the 2018 elections, assigning him the role of Midlands Provincial Affairs Minister, signalling a relationship that transcends political convenience.

Critics argue that this appointment further entrenched Ncube’s position as a central figure in the province’s gold-related violence and political coercion.

Ncube’s notoriety as a political enforcer is well-documented.

Allegations of orchestrating violence, intimidating opposition members, and securing illicit gold profits for Zanu PF have haunted his tenure in Midlands.

His actions have earned him a reputation as a trusted but controversial executor of Mnangagwa’s regional power plays.

The death of his mother comes at a time when the shadow of his tumultuous past continues to loom large over Midlands, leaving questions about his enduring role in Mnangagwa’s political machinery.

Opposition Leader Calls on Mnangagwa to Retire and Rest

By A Correspondent

Jealous Mawarire, the spokesperson for the National Patriotic Front, has stated that while he does not wish any harm to President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, he believes it is time for the president to leave office and enjoy the future prosperity of Zimbabwe.

Mawarire made the comments in response to a question from a follower on X (formerly Twitter) who asked if he would like to see Mnangagwa in trouble.

“I don’t wish him any harm, and whoever is circulating such a picture is being callous,” Mawarire said. “I want him out of power, but I certainly don’t wish any harm on him.

If anything, I want him to retire and enjoy a free and prosperous Zimbabwe that is definitely coming after him.”

Mawarire has been a vocal critic of Mnangagwa’s leadership, recently declaring that the president has “gone rogue” and should be removed from office. He also criticized Mnangagwa’s attempts to extend his tenure, describing it as unconstitutional.

“If the constitutional provision on term limits is amended, it can’t benefit the sitting president,” Mawarire argued. “That’s why the push to have ED [Emmerson Dambudzo] as president in 2030 is unconstitutional and illegal.”

Mnangagwa Extends Retirement Age For Soldiers

By Political Reporter-The government has increased the retirement age for members of the security forces in a controversial move analysts say consolidates Zanu PF’s reliance on the military for political dominance.

The retirement age for uniformed forces has been raised from 50 to 55, with options to extend service up to 60 years and up to 65 years for war veterans.

Commissioned officers in the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) will now retire at 65, with an option to extend their tenure up to 70 years.

These changes, outlined in Statutory Instrument (SI) 198 of 2024, will take effect on January 1, 2025. The SI, signed by the Minister of Defence, reads in part:

“A permanent member shall, whatever the length of his or her pensionable service, retire on attaining the age of fifty-five years: Provided that… if the Minister, on the recommendation of the Commander, considers that it is desirable in the public interest, he or she may allow that member to continue to serve for a period of five years until he or she attains the age of sixty years…”

War veterans can now remain in service for up to 65 years, while commissioned officers can serve until they are 70.

This development has drawn sharp criticism, with civil society organisations and opposition parties alleging that it serves Zanu PF’s strategy of militarising state institutions.

Observers note that the extension in service terms might ensure the continued loyalty of military personnel who have been pivotal in influencing election outcomes through voter intimidation, suppression of dissent, and logistical support for Zanu PF campaigns.

Zimbabwe’s military has long been accused of being a key pillar in Zanu PF’s grip on power.

During past elections, soldiers have been deployed in rural areas to intimidate voters, enforce Zanu PF’s agenda, and ensure compliance with the party’s directives.

Military chiefs have openly declared their allegiance to Zanu PF, warning that they would not recognise any government led by opposition parties.

This increase in retirement age comes as the country braces for a potentially volatile electoral period, with Zanu PF looking to consolidate its position amid waning public support.

Critics argue that the move will strengthen Zanu PF’s ability to manipulate future elections by maintaining a pliant military force deeply embedded in the political machinery.

The extension of service terms is also seen as a reward to loyalists within the armed forces, ensuring their continued benefits and privileges.

Analysts warn that this might deepen the politicisation of the military, further eroding democratic principles in the country.

Mnangagwa’s AI-Generated Photo Sparks Outrage in Zanu PF

By A Correspondent

The Zimbabwean government has voiced its strong concern over a disturbing AI-generated image that depicts President Emmerson Mnangagwa lying down with what appears to be blood stains…

The image has caused significant outrage within the ruling Zanu PF party, prompting swift calls for action.

Presidential spokesperson George Charamba took to his Ghost X handle (@donzamusoro007) to condemn the image, urging the police to investigate the matter. “JUST CHECK THIS MACABRE, AI-GENERATED IMAGE!!! Kuti zvidii nhai @cozwva? I hope @PoliceZimbabwe has seen this criminal act!!!!!!,” Charamba posted, expressing his shock and anger at the image.

The image, which has circulated publicly, is believed to have originated from the Children of Zimbabwe War Veterans Association (COZWVA) handle on X (formerly Twitter). Charamba’s outburst reflects the government’s frustration with the image, which he described as a “criminal act” and a malicious attempt to tarnish the President’s image.

Political analysts have suggested that the image is more a reflection of public discontent, rather than a serious attempt to incite violence. Nonetheless, Charamba’s call for police intervention highlights the seriousness with which the government is treating the issue.

Why the unemployed remain invisible and voiceless

By Taruberekera Masara |Poverty of shame is one of serious issues bedeviling Zimbabwe as a country. It is shameful that in a glaring case of acute unemployment Emmerson Mnangagwa’s stay beyond constitutionally prescribed 2 terms becomes a big and central issue. It seems to me that he is more visible than the suffering nation.

Discredited youth leaders in the mould of Taurai Kandishaya and his cabal choose to ignore the sickening unemployment levels in the country and peddle the succession battles as if they are so important more than the livelihood of the masses of the unemployed youth which they claim to represent.

It’s so mad.

Reason Wafawarova once highlighted that ZANU Pf politicians hate to look into the mirror. They fear seeing how bad they’re. The choose a discourse with feel good morphines than to address the pressing issues weighing down our country.

Unemployment in Zimbabwe should litter our public sphere.Unfortunaty it doesn’t,some peripheral issues take the fore.

Unemployment in Zimbabwe doesn’t get as much attention and urgency in terms of public policy that it deserves. One of the reasons is that the unemployed suffer from the worst combination possible: invisibility and voicelessness. According to British poet Stephen Spender they are not “starvingly visible and shoutingly audible”.

They can’t speak for themselves. No organisation represents them. They are simply not seen and unheard. We, you and me, and policymakers — talk about these citizens only in statistical terms. They have no faces, no families. President Emerson Mnangagwa will comfortably present us the parliament, the Senate, his cabinet, but won’t show us her unemployed twin.

As if to confirm the invisibility of the unemployed, unemployment data speaks of certain figures that beats even first world countries. The concerned minister,  will strongly contend that the numbers were accurate, the unemployed weren’t seen on the streets. And you will be shocked.

By the end of the June 2024 there were more than 5-million of them. At the height of the Great Depression in 1933 about 12.8-million Americans were unemployed, according to the Franklin D Roosevelt Presidential Library & Museum, a rate of about 25% in statistical terms.

The US Federal Reserve describes the Great Depression as “the longest and deepest downturn” in the history of the modern industrial economy. It lasted for more than a decade.

Zimbabwe is in no similar depression. Yet more than 67.83% of its labour force — or measured, another way, 78% of the population aged between 15 and 64 — are without jobs. That has been the case for a decades and more.

That figure includes more than 3-million people who are classified as discouraged work-seekers simply because they hadn’t been out searching for jobs in the four weeks preceding the date of the survey by UNICEF. To be shoved into this tent of discouraged work-seekers, a person must also have given one of the following reasons: there were no jobs available in the area; unable to find work requiring his/her skills; and lost hope of finding any kind of work.

To have such a figure of people unemployed, and for this long, should have spurred the nation to pull out all stops to try and get them into jobs.It is the invisibility and the voicelessness that even the politicians, whose lack of modesty of ambition (promises) is well known, have become modest in their electoral promises.

It is sad that this waste of human potential isn’t enough to galvanise all of us to do something, including kicking politicians hard in their backside to get them to act with urgency and purpose.

Spender articulated the problem clearly in his autobiography, World Within World.

“So our generation was driven into politics because world events presented us with situations in which it seemed impossible for us not to take sides. The first of those was the Wall Street crash of 1929, producing millions of unemployed not only in America but also in Europe.”

“Today we see the unemployed more often on television screens. They are images moving across glass screens, harvested for us from all over the world by a camera crew and some reporter who interprets them for us.

“These are three-dimensional figures transformed almost to abstractions — while we sit in our rooms perhaps eating dinners or high teas and watch them. The viewer may be shaken or depressed or distressed by these images, but they do not step out of the screen into his room, or shout from the street up to his windows. Everything today is spectacle.”

In 1929 the unemployed “were starvingly visible and shoutingly audible”.

This moved young writers, himself included, who had thought that as artists politics wasn’t for them. They woke up to the fact that the economic system that had “enabled them to go (say) to university (and, in my own case, had provided me with a small private income)” could not provide the unemployed with jobs. The unemployed, the young writers noticed, were also being subjected to a means test “before they could receive the dole”.

So, taking a cue from Spender, Zimbabwe ’s unemployment isn’t going to get the urgency and public policy seriousness it deserves because many of us who continue to benefit from the country’s economy think politics isn’t for us. And we will continue to think so because the unemployed aren’t starvingly visible and shoutingly audible in our living rooms.

Govt Hires 8,000 Teachers For New Curriculum Rollout

By Munacho Gwamanda-The government has announced plans to recruit over 8,000 teachers to implement a revamped education curriculum and improve the quality of learning nationwide.

This initiative, set to begin in the first school term on January 14, 2025, aims to reduce the teacher-pupil ratio, enhance hands-on learning, and replace the controversial Continuous Assessment Learning Activities (CALAs) system with a more practical approach.

Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Dr Torerai Moyo, highlighted that this recruitment builds on the hiring of over 5,000 teachers in 2024, which significantly reduced class sizes. The new drive targets a teacher-pupil ratio of 1:30 or 1:35.

“We’re also addressing the challenges faced by teachers in remote areas, including offering hardship allowances for those traveling long distances,” said Dr Moyo.

He added that the government has solar-powered 150 rural schools this year, with plans to expand the initiative in 2025.

To bridge the urban-rural education divide, the government is upgrading facilities in rural areas, constructing 2,800 schools to reduce the distance learners travel, and ensuring access to digital tools and learning materials.

Dr. Moyo noted that decentralising teacher recruitment allows for better deployment to underserved areas.

This strategy ensures that even remote schools are staffed by qualified professionals.

“Some teachers prefer working close to home, but decentralisation helps us fill gaps in rural areas with competent candidates,” he said.

While the average African child walks 15km to the nearest school, post-colonial Zimbabwe has reduced this to 5km.

Additionally, only one in 10 Zimbabwean children under nine struggle with literacy, compared to nine out of 10 across the continent.

Fake Gogo Chihoro Facebook Accounts On The Prowl

Harare | A fraudulent Facebook account impersonating Gogo Chihoro has been exposed for misleading unsuspecting clients by sharing false contact details and claiming she is unavailable in the country.

The fake account has been providing a South African number to deceive clients while falsely claiming that Gogo Chihoro is currently out of Zimbabwe.

Contrary to these false claims, Gogo Chihoro is fully operational in Harare and available to serve her followers.

Speaking out against the rising cases of fraud targeting her name, Gogo Chihoro clarified that she has only one official Facebook account and has no ties to the fraudulent accounts spreading misinformation.

“I want to assure everyone that I am in Harare and actively operating. The fake accounts tarnishing my name must be disregarded,” she stated.

These scams not only erode public trust but also disrupt Gogo Chihoro’s genuine efforts to assist communities. Victims have been duped into sending money or engaging in fake services under the guise of her name.

Gogo Chihoro’s team is working tirelessly to report and have these fraudulent accounts removed. They are urging social media users to verify any interaction with her through the official Facebook account and to report any suspicious accounts or activities.

Law enforcement has been notified, and efforts are underway to track and prosecute the perpetrators. Gogo Chihoro remains steadfast in her mission to protect her supporters and preserve the integrity of her work.

To avoid falling victim to these scams, followers are encouraged to connect directly through Gogo Chihoro’s official platforms for verified updates and services.

ED Stays Put, Amid Coup Plot Fears

Political Reporter-President Emmerson Mnangagwa will spend his one-month-long vaccination in the country.

The President’s annual leave begins today; traditionally, he is supposed to go abroad, refresh, and re-set.

George Charamba, his spokesperson, made the announcement on Monday, fueling speculation that Mnangagwa is deeply concerned about a potential coup, especially from his ambitious deputy, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.

Mnangagwa, who seized power from the late President Robert Mugabe in a 2017 military coup spearheaded by Chiwenga, has never taken leave outside Zimbabwe since assuming office.

This decision appears calculated, reflecting fears that he could face the same fate as Mugabe if he were to leave the country, given the ongoing power struggles within the ruling Zanu PF party.

Mnangagwa and Chiwenga’s alliance has long been fraught with tension.

Following Mugabe’s ousting, insiders reported an informal agreement that Mnangagwa would serve a single term before handing over power to Chiwenga.

However, Mnangagwa’s actions suggest he is determined to hold onto power beyond his two constitutional terms, sidelining Chiwenga.

The former military commander and the face of the 2017 coup, Chiwenga, is viewed by many as a powerful figure who commands significant loyalty within the security sector.

His frustrations with Mnangagwa’s broken promises are now public, with reports of heated confrontations and factional battles within the party.

Announcing the president’s staycation, Charamba said:
“His Excellency, the President, will spend his vacation locally and will remain accessible for responsibilities that require his direct involvement, both in his capacity as Head of State and as Chairman of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).”
During Mnangagwa’s absence from routine duties, Vice President Kembo Mohadi will act as President from December 31, 2024, to January 19, 2025. Thereafter, Chiwenga will assume the role until Mnangagwa resumes duties in early February 2025.

Political analysts interpret this arrangement as a balancing act to keep Chiwenga placated while ensuring Mnangagwa’s grip on power remains secure.

By staying in the country, Mnangagwa minimizes the risk of an organized coup or internal party rebellion.

Mnangagwa’s Decision To Extend ZRP Pensionable Service Sparks Debate

    By A Correspondent

In a controversial decision, President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced on Monday that the pensionable service period for officers of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) would be increased from 20 years to 30 years. This new policy will take effect from January 1, 2025.

The change was confirmed by Zanu PF’s Operation Restore Legacy page, which shared the news with the public:

“Good news for Zimbabwe Republic Police – ZRP. President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has increased pensionable service for police from 20 years to 30 years, starting on January 1, 2025.”

This move has raised questions about its implications for the ZRP and the broader political landscape in Zimbabwe.

    Loyal People Mnangagwa Has Betrayed

By Mandla Dlamini | As Zimbabwe slowly rolls into the new year we take time to look at those who worked very hard for Zimbabwe in their different ways. It is sad to note tha these undung heroes have worked so hard for their country but they have not been rewarded. This shows us that ZANU PF will never recognise those who hard for it. It is a party which works people and reward those who do not work. In closing this year we look at few people who sacrificed their lives for Zimbabwe and ZANU PF and CCC buy were kicked right in the face.
The behaviour of ZANU PF against those who work hard for it exposes Mnangagwa’s ungrateful character and his discrimination against those who are not from his province.

This is a lesson to all those who support blindly, some will be gaining and get rewarded while hardworking cadres are completely ignored. On behalf of progressive and hardworking Zimbabweans I would like to say Thank you for all the hard work you put in daily! Know that it is recognized and greatly appreciated by Zimbabwe even though ZANU PF led government will never appreciate or even to say thank you. Thank you for stepping in and saving the day in this difficult times where you have carried the Zimbabwean story. So glad we have you as a Zimbabwean upright men and women. Thanks for being so dedicated and hard-working!
Putting your country on the map is an incremental part of your everyday life.
A man who has fought so hard for Justice and defending the human rights and yet not recognised by his party the CCC this year is Mr Tawanda Dzvokora. Many people know him as Chief Svosve. Dzvokora’s voice has become a pain in the ears of the ruling party. Dzvokora has highlighted the plight of Zimbabweans in any platform. He has singularly taken Mnangagwa to task. Dzvokora has continued to be the lone voice in the wilderness. Unfortunately no one has recognised him for the work he has done. He is our 2025 opposition fighter of the year. It is a pity that even his leader Chamisa jumped the ship and left Dzvokora sinking it.
There are many Zimbabweans who have tried to point out the plight of Zimbabweans. Their efforts though not recognised by their country the world has been made aware of the events in Zimbabwe. There some like Advocate Masiye, Masotcha, and many in South Africa. We havesome strong criticsof Mnangagwa’s regime like Sherpard Yuda, Patson Muzuwa and many others. But we recognise Mr Dzvokora chief Svosve.
While we look at the opposition we can not ignore those in ZANU PF who worked very hard for Zimbabwe and for ZANU PF but have not been recognised by their party.
The man who worked tooth and nail in defence of his country, and received total abuse from many Zimbabweans abroad and at home is Dr Masimba Mavaza. Successful people in every field are often said to be “blessed with talent” or even just lucky. But Masimba Mavaza is fearless defender of ZANU PF. While everyone around him is voicing his concerns against Mnangagwa and his government Dr Masimba Mavaza stands for his party ZANU PF. While I must make it clear that I do not like ZANU PF and I am not happy with Mnangagwa Dr Masimba Mavaza will defend ZANU PF with all his power to an extent that you will end up believing him. Dr Mavaza worked harder than the average person can even imagine to defend ZANU PF and Mnangagwa.
Mavaza argues with passion for his party. The commitment he shows for his party is beyond comprehension. Mavaza is known for waking up early and working toward a goal while other people are still in bed, and staying later than everyone else too in defense of his country and party. He applied what is called
Old fashioned hard work. To those who are in doubt about what to think about Zimbabwe must know that Mavaza is an inspiration.
Dr MASIMBA MAVAZA had prodigious physical gifts. But as his party ignores him it is hard work that made him a legend in debates and in writing. Dr Mavaza’s defining characteristic isn’t his talent, but having the humility to know he had to work constantly to be the defender of his none caring party. Dr Mavaza is an example of how ZANU PF does not care for you no matter how you fight for it.

Dr Mavaza must be a frequent consumer of wake ip products to maintain his frenetic schedule. Many people in the Social Media have said Mavaza has graced social media to turn around the party. He writes two articles a day for several online papers. One would think that he is being paid by ZANU PF but no ZANU PF will never recognise you unless you are related to the senior guys.
One social media fighter warned Mavaxa that he is being used by the ruthless ZANU PF. While we admire his passion for his country we take his commitment as a warning to all that You support ZANU PF at your risk. Dr Masimba Mavaza ends this year 2024 as our hard worker on ZANU PF side.
It is equally important to state that Mavaza, is the most insulted abused and hated person in Zimbabwe and on Social media.
He gets all the cyber bullying and yet his party looks the other side. You join ZANU PF at your own risk. Mavaza continues talking to overseas publications even later at night from home and engages in debates. He goes into the office on Sundays and reads emails from his thousands of followers.
While Mnangagwa rewards his sons and cronies Dr Mavaza and those Varakashis toil and scratch wounds of poverty for no reward.
The irony of all this is that the hard workers are not rewarded the corrupt ones get everything.
I will say well done Dr Mavaza and all those who were behind the scenes.
2025 has a lot in store. Come out and lead a crusade to have Zimbabwe a better country again.
We acknowledge all the journalists who heralded the plight of Zimbabwe and all who are going to do the same in this coming year.

    Have a wonderful 2025.

Is Trent Alexander-Arnold Moving to Real Madrid?

    Sports Correspondent

With Arne Slot’s Liverpool team emerging as strong favorites to secure the title by May, they may still require additional support to seal the deal. As the January transfer window approaches, Liverpool could be considering moves to strengthen their squad.

However, major decisions loom over several key players in their roster. Below, we examine the latest rumors surrounding Liverpool’s potential transfers.

According to AS, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s transfer to Real Madrid is “almost complete.” The right-back is expected to join the Spanish giants at the end of his contract, although an official announcement will be delayed out of respect for Liverpool.

In other news, former Liverpool target Anthony Gordon has committed to winning a trophy with Newcastle before contemplating a move away from St James’ Park. Speaking to The Chronicle, he stated, “I’ve got a long contract here, and I intend to see that out.”

Reports from Spain suggest that Alexander-Arnold is poised to wear Real Madrid’s white kit next season. The Spanish club has been eyeing the player as his contract with Liverpool nears its final six months. While there were initial discussions about a move in January following Dani Carvajal’s long-term injury, it now appears the terms of the deal have already been settled.

From Chimurenga to Contemporary Struggles: Examining Ian Smith and Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Leadership in Zimbabwe

The Generational Fight for Freedom: Social, Economic, and Political Challenges Across Eras

Story by Prosper Tiringindi, a Human Rights Defender

Zimbabwe’s history has been shaped by two prominent leaders—Ian Smith and Emmerson Mnangagwa—whose governance periods reflect glaring contradictions. While both leaders are credited with infrastructural development, their tenures are also marked by systemic human rights abuses, political oppression, and unaddressed socio-economic inequalities.

Ian Smith’s Leadership: A Catalyst for Chimurenga

Ian Smith served as Prime Minister of Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) from 1964 to 1979, leading a white minority government that unilaterally declared independence from Britain in 1965. His administration prioritized infrastructure development, creating modern road networks, industrial zones, and efficient urban services. However, these advancements primarily benefited the white minority, leaving the black majority in abject poverty.

Socially, Smith’s government enforced segregation through oppressive laws that marginalized black communities, limiting access to quality education, healthcare, and land ownership. Economically, policies favored the minority elite while relegating the black population to poorly paid, exploitative labor in agriculture and mining.

Politically, Smith’s regime was notorious for brutal crackdowns on dissent. Freedoms of speech, assembly, and political organization were heavily suppressed. Opposition to the regime, especially from liberation movements like ZANLA and ZIPRA, was met with violence and detentions. Reflecting on this era, Smith infamously remarked, “The more we killed, the happier we were.”

The socio-economic and political injustices under Smith became the rallying point for the Chimurenga liberation war. Black Zimbabweans demanded land redistribution, political representation, and socio-economic equity. The war’s success in 1980 heralded the end of white minority rule, yet its promises remain unfulfilled for many.

Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Leadership: The Betrayal of Liberation Ideals

In 2017, Emmerson Mnangagwa ascended to power following Robert Mugabe’s resignation. Touted as a reformer, his presidency initially inspired hope. However, his administration has since faced allegations of corruption, economic mismanagement, and human rights abuses, echoing the authoritarian tendencies of his predecessors.

Socially, Mnangagwa’s government has failed to address the enduring inequalities inherited from colonial rule. Healthcare and education systems are in decline, with ordinary citizens bearing the brunt of economic hardships. The promise of land redistribution has been marred by corruption, with political elites capturing the best agricultural land.

Economically, Mnangagwa’s tenure has been characterized by hyperinflation, currency instability, and high unemployment rates. Despite promises to attract investment, widespread corruption and mismanagement have deterred economic growth. Essential services like water, electricity, and sanitation remain inaccessible to many.

Politically, Mnangagwa has cracked down on opposition parties, activists, and journalists. Freedom of assembly and speech remains restricted, with protesters frequently arrested or subjected to violence. In March 2024, the United States sanctioned Mnangagwa under the Global Magnitsky program for corruption and human rights abuses.

    Generational Demands: Then and Now

The demands of the Chimurenga generation—land, freedom, and equity—resonate with the struggles of today’s youth. However, the current generation also grapples with additional challenges:

Unemployment and Poverty: Zimbabwe’s youth face limited job opportunities, driving many into informal work or migration.

Corruption: Public resources are siphoned off by political elites, denying citizens access to essential services.

Lack of Political Voice: State surveillance and repression stifle activism and political participation.

Despite the differences in context, the fight remains the same: an equitable society where citizens enjoy social, economic, and political rights.

Analysis: Infrastructure Without Rights Is Futile

Both Ian Smith and Emmerson Mnangagwa presided over periods where infrastructure development was undermined by systemic oppression. Under Smith, infrastructure served a racial minority, fueling the liberation struggle. Under Mnangagwa, infrastructural promises are overshadowed by corruption and repression, leaving the majority in despair.

As Prosper Tiringindi, a human rights defender, asserts: “Infrastructure development is meaningless if citizens are deprived of basic rights. A society cannot thrive under oppression, regardless of its physical advancements.”

The generational fight for freedom in Zimbabwe is far from over, as the current leadership has yet to fulfill the promises of the liberation struggle. The call for justice, equity, and accountability echoes across decades, uniting past and present generations in their quest for a better future.

Kwekwe Hospital Grapples with Doctor Accommodation Crisis

    By A Correspondent

Kwekwe Provincial Hospital is facing a severe shortage of accommodation for doctors, hindering the recruitment of critical medical staff.

The crisis began in 2022 when a fire ravaged the hospital’s doctors’ quarters, which the government has yet to rebuild.

District Medical Officer, Dr. Nyasha Mwasunda, highlighted the urgency of the situation, stating that the lack of accommodation is a significant obstacle in attracting and retaining essential technical staff.

The district is currently experiencing a 16% shortage of critical personnel, including pharmacists, nurses, and doctors.

The shortage of accommodation has resulted in the hospital struggling to fill vacant positions, exacerbating the existing staffing shortages. Dr. Mwasunda emphasized the need for prompt action to address the accommodation crisis and ensure the hospital can provide quality healthcare services to the community.

Mnangagwa Fears Coup, Spends Leave At State House

By Political Reporter-The Government has announced that President Emmerson Mnangagwa will begin his annual vacation on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, but will remain in the country.

Mnangagwa, who seized power from the late President Robert Mugabe in a 2017 military coup spearheaded by Chiwenga, has never taken leave outside Zimbabwe since assuming office.

Political analysts interpret this arrangement as a balancing act to keep Chiwenga placated while ensuring Mnangagwa’sgrip on power remains secure.

By staying in the country, Mnangagwa minimizes the risk of an organized coup or internal party rebellion.

Mnangagwa Extends Pensionable Service for ZRP Officers from 20 to 30 Years

Another #Mazion4ED Official In Horror Crash

By James Gwati– Another official, this time with the Mazion for ED movement has reportedly been involved in a serious car accident en route to Bulawayo.

The Mazio4eD official had an accident on the same day the #Vapostori4Ed was also involved in an accident while mobilising people for President Mnangagwa in Bulawayo.

Sources close to the incident say the official (name with-held) was heading to preparations for the National Thanksgiving Day, a government-declared event championed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Social media platforms are now flooded with images of the mangled vehicle, raising concerns about the official’s condition.

The National Thanksgiving Day, which Mnangagwa introduced after his rise to power through a military coup in 2017, has become a strategic tool in his political arsenal.

Held annually in Bulawayo, the event is positioned as a day of intercession for national prosperity and blessings, emphasising the role of faith in Zimbabwe’s development.

However, critics argue that the day serves as a veneer for Mnangagwa’s 2030 Agenda, a campaign to solidify his rule while sidelining political rivals, including Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.

Mnangagwa has leveraged religious platforms to bolster his legitimacy.

Key allies like Reverend Andrew Wutawunashe, founder of the Faith for Nation Campaign, have played pivotal roles in this strategy.

Wutawunashe Sunday even composed a song praising Mnangagwa, declaring him the nation’s leader until 2030.

Such acts are seen as direct endorsements of Mnangagwa’s agenda, further entrenching his influence within the religious sector.

Efforts to contact Madzibaba Moses Gwasarira, the national chairperson of Vapostori and Zion for ED, for comment were unsuccessful.

Gwasarira had attended the Sunday event, where Mnangagwa’s religious-political alliance was on full display.

ZimEye is working to confirm details of the accident with law enforcement authorities, but the incident has already sparked speculation about its timing, given the intensifying power struggles between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga.

ZIFA Polls: Mliswa Blasts Tagwirei for Attempting To Hijack Football

    Sports Correspondent

Former Norton MP and ex-Democratic Movement for Zimbabwe (Dembare) fitness trainer, Temba Mliswa, has strongly criticized businessman Kuda Tagwirei for allegedly attempting to take control of Zimbabwean football. Mliswa, who was recently disqualified from the ZIFA presidential elections, claimed that powerful cartels are using the ZIFA elections as a platform to advance their own interests.

Mliswa stated, “It’s unfortunate that the ZIFA elections have become an arena for cartels to flex their power and influence, redirecting the course of Zimbabwean football for their own benefit.”

While acknowledging Tagwirei’s success as a businessman and his potential to be a great sponsor for local teams, Mliswa accused him of misusing his power to manipulate the football sector.

“Kuda has been an astute businessman and could be a great sponsor, funding and supporting local teams,” Mliswa continued. “However, he has abused that power to try and influence the entire football sector, using proxies like Magwizi and his company, Sakunda.”

Mliswa warned that this kind of influence sets a dangerous precedent that could harm the long-term development of Zimbabwean football. He pointed out that while Delta has been involved in local football for years, they have never tried to manipulate the sport for their own private interests or supported specific candidates for office.

“Kuda Tagwirei is my ‘mzukuru’ and I will always speak frankly with him,” Mliswa added.

“This approach is wrong. It would be more prudent and beneficial if he focused on sponsoring the sport. However, this sudden involvement in corporate social work appears to be aimed at supporting a specific candidate.”

The Importance of Emotional Control for Safe Driving

Two Chivayo-Donated Cars Crash on Same Day

    By A Correspondent

Two vehicles donated by controversial Zanu PF businessman Wicknell Chivayo were involved in separate accidents on the same day, sparking questions about the source of the tycoon’s wealth.

According to a report from the Zanu PF Operation Restore Legacy Facebook page, the accidents involved two prominent individuals connected to the religious and political circles.

The spokesperson for Vapostori and Mazion for President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Madzibaba Obey Mapuranga, was involved in an accident while traveling to Bulawayo for the advance mobilization of the Prayer Day event. The report states that the accident occurred as Mapuranga made his way to the city.

The second accident involved Madzibaba Owen Velvet, who was traveling back from Bulawayo. Velvet’s car was reportedly caught in heavy rains, which led to the crash.

The Facebook page, known for its affiliation with Zanu PF, expressed concern about the incidents, with a post reading: “The Spokesperson of Vapostori and Mazion for ED Madzibaba Obey Mapuranga had an accident on his way to Bulawayo for the advance mobilization of the Prayer Day, also Madzibaba Owen Velvet had an accident on his way back from Bulawayo due to heavy rains. Sir Wicknel vapamhai futi,” a statement made in reference to Chivayo’s involvement in donating the cars.

The accidents have raised eyebrows regarding the true origin of Wicknell Chivayo’s wealth, a subject that has been widely debated in Zimbabwe due to his controversial business dealings. Chivayo, known for his ties to the ruling Zanu PF party, has faced scrutiny over various financial dealings, with critics questioning the legitimacy of his wealth.

Opposition MP Reveals Shocking Food Crisis

    By A Correspondent

Hon. Mutsa Murombedzi, the opposition proportional representation MP for Mashonaland West, has expressed her concerns over the growing food crisis in her home area.

    Below is her statement:

“Sunday in the village began with a moment of reflection and community connection at church. Later, I applied AN fertilizer in the fields to combat a stubborn worm that is damaging crops. Villagers have shared that the worm is becoming more resistant due to changing climate conditions, and they have resorted to using Surf detergent as a remedy.

In the afternoon, I joined some women fishing in the leftover ponds of Mupfure, balancing children on their backs while they sought food for their families. Hunger is a pressing issue, but they remain hopeful that a full Mupfure flood will bring better catches.

Unfortunately, it was a no-catch day for me, but it is through conversations like these, hearing their stories of resilience, that I find inspiration and a deeper understanding of their daily struggles.”

By A Correspondent| Mutare-based singer Captain Britain has set social media ablaze with his freestyle videos, in which he comments on his music career and addresses challenges, including the lack of local support for his artistry.

    Captain Britain

The controversy reached new heights during a recent *Cup Clash* in Harare, where Captain Britain made a brief appearance before being ejected by the event’s MC, Marondera-based singer Van Chichi.

Following the incident, Captain Britain took to his social media platforms, claiming he was unfairly disqualified and insisting he would have won the coveted prize—a BMW vehicle—ultimately awarded to Ngwere Lite.

Captain Britain has also publicly criticized the people of Mutare for their lack of support, pointing to a poorly attended show at Beit Hall, which, despite extensive promotion, drew only one attendee. However, he has since reconciled with his Mutare fans, acknowledging their recognition of him as “Chibaba Chemangoma”.

He has made a video begging for a Toyota Aqua from controversial businessman Wicknell Chivhayo.

Mnangagwa Declares Only ‘Dictators of Zimbabwe’ Are Allowed To Pray For It

Bulawayo – “Zimbabwe Can Only Be Prayed For by Its Captors”: Mnangagwa Declares Himself Sovereign Over Nation’s Destiny

By Dorrothy Moyo | ZimEye | In a bold and polarizing declaration, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has proclaimed that only Zimbabwe’s “owners”—a term many interpret as its ruling elite—have the right to pray for the nation. The statement, made during a church gathering at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair grounds, comes at a time when Mnangagwa has increasingly styled himself as a modern-day King Munhumutapa, ruling over a nation he views as his personal dominion.

    https://x.com/zimeye/status/1873431750682234969?s=46

This symbolism extends beyond rhetoric. Mnangagwa has established the Mutapa Investment Fund, a state-controlled wealth fund headquartered in the former home of the late opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai. This audacious move has been widely seen as a deliberate act of mockery toward Tsvangirai’s legacy, serving as yet another declaration of Mnangagwa’s complete dominance over Zimbabwe’s political and historical narrative.

By intertwining divine imagery with sovereign authority, Mnangagwa has rebranded himself as both the spiritual and political custodian of Zimbabwe. But in doing so, he has drawn sharp criticism from those who see his statements as a chilling assertion that the nation remains in the grip of its captors, who dictate its fate, its prayers, and even the legacy of its fallen leaders.

Mnangagwa stirred controversy yesterday during a church service at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) grounds, declaring that only the “owners” of Zimbabwe are permitted to pray for the country. The remarks came after Prophet Andrew Wutaunashe anointed Mnangagwa as the nation’s president until 2030, proclaiming a divine endorsement of his leadership.

“You will be performing signs and wonders till 2030!” Wutaunashe declared, as Mnangagwa stood alongside his deputy, Kembo Mohadi. Notably absent from the gathering was Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, fueling speculation about shifts within Zimbabwe’s power structure. The prominent presence of ZANU-PF chairwoman Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri beside Mnangagwa suggested she may be positioned as Chiwenga’s replacement amid growing calls within the military deep state for Mnangagwa to hand over power to Chiwenga.

    Mnangagwa’s Vision for the Future

Following Wutaunashe’s prophetic blessing, Mnangagwa addressed the congregation, proclaiming a brighter future for Zimbabwe underpinned by divine guidance and national development.

“As we look to the future, our nation is emboldened by the goodness of Almighty God that saw us liberate ourselves from colonial bondage and repossess the land stolen from our forefathers,” Mnangagwa said. “Today, we stand proud and tall as a truly free and independent people, enjoying freedom of worship and advancing Godly values alongside a people-centred national development agenda.”

He urged citizens to focus on the country’s Vision 2030 goals, citing biblical scripture to inspire productivity and responsibility. “Genesis Chapter 1, verse 28 instructs us to be fruitful and subdue the earth,” Mnangagwa said, reinforcing the ZANU-PF national philosophy: “Nyika inovakwa, inotongwa, inonamatirwa nevene vayo” (“A country is built, ruled, and prayed for by its owners”).

    Political Intrigue Deepens

The absence of Vice President Chiwenga and the elevated profile of Muchinguri-Kashiri at the event adds fuel to ongoing speculation about internal power struggles within ZANU-PF and the military. Reports suggest a faction within the military is pressuring Mnangagwa to cede power to Chiwenga, his former ally in the 2017 coup that ousted Robert Mugabe.

The symbolic anointing of Mnangagwa until 2030 and the exclusion of Chiwenga at such a high-profile religious event is seen by analysts as a deliberate move to consolidate power and assert Mnangagwa’s dominance over party and state structures.

    Public and Political Reactions

Mnangagwa’s remarks about the “owners” of Zimbabwe have drawn criticism, with opposition leaders and civil society groups questioning the exclusionary undertones of the statement. Critics argue the rhetoric could alienate sections of the population and deepen divisions in an already polarized nation.

Meanwhile, the prophetic endorsement by Wutaunashe has been met with mixed reactions. Supporters within ZANU-PF hailed it as a sign of divine favor, while skeptics dismissed it as an attempt to use religion to cement political authority.

    The Road Ahead

As the political landscape evolves, the focus remains on whether Mnangagwa can maintain unity within ZANU-PF and fend off mounting pressure from rival factions. With Vision 2030 at the center of his rhetoric, Mnangagwa is attempting to project stability and progress amid growing calls for change both within and outside his party.

This unfolding drama is sure to dominate Zimbabwean politics in the months ahead. Stay tuned for updates as the situation develops.

Kasukuwere Vows to Block Mnangagwa “Selfish” Agenda

    By A Correspondent

Saviour Kasukuwere, former ZANU PF Political Commissar and leader of the Generation 40 (G40) faction, has forcefully rejected President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s efforts to extend his time in office beyond the constitutional limits.

Mnangagwa, who has been consolidating power within his party, is pushing for constitutional amendments that would allow him to stay in office beyond his current term, which is set to end in 2028. However, Kasukuwere was quick to dismiss the proposal, labeling it as “daydreams.” He vowed to stop Mnangagwa’s plans, pledging to take action during the 2025 elections.

Kasukuwere’s comments came in response to remarks made by ZANU PF Central Committee member Jenfan Muswere, who stated that the resolutions passed at the party’s recent Annual People’s Conference were binding, having been adopted unanimously by delegates. Muswere emphasized that there were no objections when the resolutions were read aloud at the conference.

One of the key resolutions proposed extending Mnangagwa’s presidential term by two more years, until 2030, to allow for the completion of his Vision 2030 agenda. The resolution reads: “The Delegates to the ZANU PF 21st National People’s Conference resolve as follows: the President and First Secretary of ZANU PF Party, His Excellency, Cde. Dr E. D. Mnangagwa’s term of office as President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and First Secretary of ZANU PF be extended beyond 2028 to 2030. The Party and Government should, therefore, set in motion the necessary amendments to the National Constitution so as to give effect to this resolution.”

Despite the official stance, Kasukuwere, who has previously argued that Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 will not come to fruition, is determined to block this proposal. He boldly declared, “It’s a Tingiringo resolution. I will handle it in the coming weeks. For now, let’s rest.” Kasukuwere’s statement underscores his commitment to preventing Mnangagwa from extending his rule beyond 2025.

Zanu PF Seeks To Extend Influence Beyond Politics

    By A Correspondent

In a bold and controversial statement, Zanu PF Youth League deputy secretary for Commissariat, Taurai Kandishaya, recently declared that the ruling party has the power to influence not just political elections but even sports-related contests in Zimbabwe.

Kandishaya made these remarks on Saturday, taking a jab at the perceived factionalism within the party while asserting Zanu PF’s dominance in every form of election in the country.

Kandishaya’s comments were made with a dose of sarcasm. He remarked, “If you think there are fights within ZANU PF then call for an election and see what is called unity of purpose. Even School Development Committee Elections, even burial society elections. ZANU PF aligned candidate will win.”

He continued by suggesting that the ruling party’s influence extends far beyond the political arena, even joking about the upcoming ZIFA (Zimbabwe Football Association) elections set for January 2025, saying, “Handina kumbotaura zveZIFA ini” (“I haven’t even mentioned ZIFA”).

The statement has sparked concern among critics, particularly within the sports community, about the potential politicization of the ZIFA elections, which traditionally are independent of government influence.

Kandishaya’s comments underscore Zanu PF’s long-standing tendency to assert control over various spheres of Zimbabwean society, a trend that has raised questions about the independence of institutions and democratic processes in the country.

While Kandishaya’s words may have been delivered with sarcasm, the implication is clear: Zanu PF is prepared to ensure the success of its aligned candidates in all forms of elections, even those unrelated to politics.

The ruling party’s self-proclaimed ability to sway results in such a wide range of areas—from school boards to sports associations—points to the significant power it wields over Zimbabwe’s institutional framework.

The forthcoming ZIFA elections, in particular, could serve as a battleground for political maneuvering, with many fearing that the governing party’s influence may undermine the autonomy of football administration in the country.

Critics worry that such political interference could harm the integrity of football and other areas traditionally governed by non-partisan bodies.

Mnangagwa Preaches Gospel of Love in Bulawayo: Do You Think He Is Sincere?

    By A Correspondent

On December 29, 2024, President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa addressed a large congregation during the 8th Zimbabwe National Thanksgiving and Dedication Service in Bulawayo, preaching a message centered on unity, love, and gratitude to God for the progress the country has made. The President’s speech, however, raises the question: is his commitment to these values truly sincere, or is it a political move to solidify his leadership in the eyes of the public?

In his address, Mnangagwa spoke of the importance of love and unity, citing Biblical references that emphasized these virtues. He quoted John 15:12-13, where Jesus commands, “Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” He further proclaimed that “love, peace, unity and harmony are the greatest gifts that we must bequeath to future generations,” urging the people of Zimbabwe to embody these values in their daily lives.

Mnangagwa’s message of peace and unity was complemented by his assertion that the country is progressing under the Second Republic, with notable strides in agriculture, infrastructure, and economic development. He attributed these successes to the guidance of the Almighty, stressing that “our nation is being renewed day by day towards Vision 2030.”

In his speech, Mnangagwa also expressed gratitude to the Church for its role in nation-building, acknowledging the leadership of various denominations. “I particularly recognize the leadership of our churches for being godly spiritual shepherds,” he said, while also commending congregants for spreading the gospel and nurturing spiritual growth.

He made an emotional appeal to the youth, urging them to resist negative influences that might lead them to “hate or look down upon their own motherland.” “Open your eyes and hearts to truly love and be committed to the land of your birth,” Mnangagwa emphasized. This was particularly poignant as it came after years of internal strife and economic challenges that have made many Zimbabweans question the country’s trajectory.

However, while his words were uplifting, some might wonder if the President’s actions align with the message of love and unity he preached. Critics of Mnangagwa’s administration point to the ongoing economic hardships and human rights issues that persist under his leadership. Despite the President’s calls for prosperity, there remains significant skepticism about the government’s ability to deliver on promises of development and social cohesion.

The message of patriotism, echoed through Bible verses like Psalm 137, which calls on people to “prefer Zimbabwe above my own joy,” underscores a strong nationalistic tone. Yet, it begs the question of whether these calls for love and national unity are being genuinely embraced by the President’s policies, especially in light of the challenges facing many Zimbabweans today.

Mnangagwa’s address also touched on the country’s independence and the reclaiming of land, referring to Zimbabwe as a “land of valleys and hills,” rich in resources. He reminded the nation of its self-liberation, stating, “We are our own liberators.” This echoed the rhetoric often used by his government, emphasizing national sovereignty and the need for Zimbabweans to take ownership of their future. But some critics argue that while the President speaks of prosperity, tangible results remain elusive for many ordinary citizens.

Despite the lofty ideals presented in his speech, some Zimbabweans may question whether these values of love and unity will be truly realized under Mnangagwa’s leadership. As the nation moves forward, it will be up to both the government and the people to embody these principles in practical, everyday ways that uplift the country as a whole.

In conclusion, while President Mnangagwa’s sermon in Bulawayo undoubtedly carried a powerful message of love, unity, and patriotism, the sincerity of his commitment to these ideals remains under scrutiny. His government’s actions will ultimately determine whether the nation can move from rhetoric to real progress, and whether the gospel of love he preaches will be more than just words.

    Senior Government Officials;
His Worship, the Mayor of Bulawayo, Councillor D.
    Coltart;
    Bishops and Church Leaders here present;
    Congregants.

It is a great privilege to fellowship with you, at this 8th
National Thanksgiving and Dedication Service. Us in
Government always look forward to such gatherings,
organised so that we can come together as a people to express our gratitude to the Almighty God for the many positive milestones which surround our nation. We do so humbly and boldly, giving thanks for the year behind us and dedicate the year ahead. The Bible reminds us not to lean on our own understanding, but to acknowledge
Almighty God, in all our ways, and He shall direct our
    paths.

The word of God in Psalm Chapter 107 verse 1, further exhorts us to, ‘Give thanks to the Lord, for His mercy endures forever.’ We are aware that every good, perfect and pleasant gift comes from Almighty God, with whom there is no variation or shadow of change.

    Mwari havashanduki, zuro, nhasi, namangwana.
Guided by First Thessalonians, Chapter 5 Verse 18, I
encourage the Church, to rejoice and to carry on praying and interceding for our beloved motherland, Zimbabwe, in all circumstances. This is the will of the Almighty God.

    Nyika inonamatirwa, inotongwa, inovakwa nevene
    vayo/ ilizwe li-khu-le-ke-lwa, libuswe, lakhiwa
    ngabanikazi balo.’
We have confidence that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us, and that He shall grant our requests.

(First John Chapter 5, verses 14 and 15.)
As such, we ‘Enter His gates with thanksgiving, His
courts with praise and we bless His name. The Lord is
good, His mercy endures forever, His faithfulness lasts from generation to generation.’ (Psalm 100 Verses 4 and
    5)

The theme of this years’ Service “Our Nation – Our
Opportunity: Celebrating the Progress, acknowledging the Potential of our Country Zimbabwe,” is both inspiring and energising.
Looking back at the successes we have scored under the Second Republic, we are seeing the goodness of the Lord in our land of Zimbabwe. We are not in despair and Almighty God has never abandoned us. Our nation is being renewed day by day towards Vision 2030.

Communities are being transformed to be empowered and more prosperous.
We are leaving no one and no place behind. For these, and many other gifts, we thank Almighty God.
Allow me to commend the remarkable contributions of Churches across all denominations in nation building.

I particularly recognise the Leadership of our Churches, in their various offices, for being Godly spiritual shepherdsover the people of our country. The Lord says in Jeremiah 3 verse 15 ‘I will give you shepherds according to my heart, who will feed you with knowledge andunderstanding.’

Thank you all for remaining true to the offices you hold, within the Churches, in our country. Your individual and collective, wholehearted service is appreciated by my Government. More-so that you have preached the uncorrupted word of God, which remains the beacon of hope, source of wisdom, and guidance for the people of our nation.

I, further applaud congregants as a whole, for spreading the gospel and nurturing the spiritual growth of many people from different backgrounds, inspiring them to live according to God’s teachings of love, unity, compassion and service.

This Thanks-giving Service is, therefore, also a tribute to the profound impact and unity of purpose which has been demonstrated in our communities, by the Church as a whole.

    Fellow Congregants;
As we look to the future, our nation is emboldened by thegoodness of Almighty God that saw us liberate ourselves from colonial bondage and ultimately repossess the land stolen from our forefathers by those who occupied our beautiful country. Today, we stand proud and tall as a truly free and Independent people, enjoying freedom of worship and advancing Godly values as well as a people-centred national development agenda.

In the year ahead, unflinching focus on our national Vision, goals and aspirations, coupled with hard honest work;production and productivity; should see us live up to the instruction given to us in Genesis Chapter 1 verse 28.

It is, our responsibility and duty to be fruitful and to subdue the earth. We remain anchored on our national philosophy,
    ‘Nyika inovakwa, inotongwa, inonamatirwa nevene
    vayo/ ilizwe, lakhiwa, libuswe likhu-le-kelwe,
    ngabanikazi balo.

Through the theme of this year’s National Thanksgiving and Dedication Service, the Church in Zimbabwe is rallying us all, to progressive, Godly and Biblical
    patriotism.

Indeed, the land, Zimbabwe which the Lord has
given us, is an exceedingly good land. We are thankful to Almighty God.

Further, development initiatives and programmes, for the upliftment and prosperity of our people, have become the solid foundation upon which we are building our country brick by brick and stone upon stone.

Us the people of Zimbabwe are our own liberators and using our indigenous resources, skills and talents. Others are welcome to assist us.

In the agriculture sector, as a Government and a people, we are not folding our arms and surrendering to the vagaries of climate change. Numerous dams are being built and boreholes sunk to mitigate the impact of climate change.

In relation to the current uneven rainfall patterns,
“Let us ask for rain from the Lord, for it is Almighty God who makes storm clouds and gives showers of rain to
    everyone”
    . (Zachariah Chapter 10 verse 1)

We raise up our arms in thanksgiving for the rapid
modernisation and expansion of our infrastructure as well as increased inflows of economic investments and diaspora remittances, which are having transformational impacts on economic growth.

The areas of remarkable progress are vast and cut across all sectors such as mining, manufacturing, tourism, ICTs,education and other social services.
Zimbabwe is rising as a force of indigenous heritage-based development. We pay tribute to the revolutionary values, ideals and national pride bequeathed to us by our forebears.

    Fellow Citizens and Brethren;
The future of Zimbabwe is growing brighter and brighter.

    We declare Deuteronomy Chapter 8 verses 8 to 10, which says, in part;
“For the Lord our God brought us into a good land,
a land of valleys and hills. A land of wheat, and
barley, and vines, a land wherein we shall eat bread
without scarceness. A land whose stones are iron,
and out of whose hills we dig precious stones.
Hence, we bless the Lord our God for the good land
which He has given unto us.” Hallelujah.

In pursuit of our National Vision 2030, I call upon us to embrace true patriotism and genuine love for our country and our people. Borrowing from the exhortations in Psalm
137 Chapter urge us, individually verses 5and 6

I also and collectively to patriotically proclaim that,
If I forget I“ , let my right hand forget Zimbabwe . skill her If I do not remember nor prefer Zimbabwe above my own joy, let my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth.

The youth of our country are particularly challenged to resist the machinations by detractors to have them hate or look down upon their own motherland, Zimbabwe. Never be blind to the vast potential of our land. Open your eyes and hearts to truly love and be committed to the land of your birth. You, the youth, are the future of this great country.

Meanwhile, we thank Jehovah God that our SADC region is united in purpose, to bring peace, development and prosperity to all our peoples.

In this spirit, I recognise and warmly welcome those who are in this service from across the SADC region. Please feel at home, away from home.

Fellow Congregants; As the Church in Zimbabwe, let us remain inspired by the wise counsel of the Lord Jesus Christ in John Chapter 15
Verses 12 and 13 which says, ‘My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you, Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends’.

Love is indeed the common denominator in the way we relate with Almighty God and with one another. Love should remain ingrained within the Church and among the people of our nation. Love, peace, unity and harmony are the greatest gifts that we must bequeath to future generations. According to First Corinthians Chapter 13 verses 8 to 10, ‘Inspired speech and prophecies will one
    day end.

Praying in tongues will end. Understanding
will reach its limit, but love never fails.’

Additionally, it is critically, important that our trust and
confidence remains anchored in the mighty power and faithfulness of Jehovah God. He shall surely fulfil His promises and plans over our families, communities, provinces and the nation as a whole.
Finally, as we dedicate our nation and consecrate ourselves to the work that lies ahead, let us embrace and advance initiatives and innovations that propel our development, modernisation and industrialisation agenda.

Individually and collectively, we must hold firm each
other’s hands, as we develop our country. Deuteronomy Chapter 28 verses 1 to 6 assures us of the abundant blessings that come about as a result of obedience and walking in the fear of the Lord.
If Zimbabwe fully obeys the Lord our God; and
carefully follows His commands that He has given us, the Lord our God will set us far above other nations.

We will be blessed in our cities and blessed in the
countryside. Our children will be blessed; and the crops of our land; and our livestock; Our herds and our flocks will also be blessed.

Zimbabwe will be blessed when we go in, and blessed
when we go out. If we obey the word of the Lord, Almighty
God will grant that the enemies who rise up against us, will be defeated before us. They will come to us in one direction, and flee from us in several.

The Lord will send a blessing on everything our nation
    sets out to do.
The Lord, Almighty God will bless Zimbabwe in this
land He has given us and we shall be established.

As we enter 2025, the Lord will grant Zimbabwe abundant prosperity, if we continue to follow His commandments. Standing on these promises, we therefore, dedicate ourselves and our nation to Jehovah God.

We commit to forge ahead in unity and in one accord; as one people and one great nation. May God bless our efforts for more historic milestones towards the realisation of Vision 2030 and beyond.

With these remarks, it gives me great pleasure to wish you all a happy, blessed and prosperous 2025.
May the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the
fellowship of the Holy Spirit remain with you all, now and forever more.

    Alleluia.
    God bless you.
    God bless Zimbabwe.
    I thank you.

Slot Cautions Liverpool Despite Comfortable Lead

    Sports Correspondent

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has urged his players to stay vigilant, reminding them that their current seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League could quickly evaporate if they become complacent.

The Reds extended their advantage with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Leicester City on Boxing Day. Despite falling behind early to a goal from Jordan Ayew in the sixth minute, Liverpool responded with goals from Cody Gakpo, Curtis Jones, and Mohamed Salah to secure the win.

In reflecting on the title race, Slot pointed to Manchester City’s dramatic drop from first to seventh as a cautionary tale.

“When you’ve been in this game for a long time, you know that with 20 games to go, you don’t pay attention to the table,” Slot said after the match. “Just a month ago, we were one point behind City, and look at where they are now. This can happen to any team, so it’s far too early to celebrate. We’ve all witnessed the challenges, and many of our victories haven’t come easily. It shows how tough it is to win, even with a full squad. We must continue to take it one game at a time.”

Venâncio Mondelano’s CNN Interview English Transcript

    (transcript by ZimEye)

    Guest Introduction:

On CNN Fim de Tarde, Venâncio Mondelano, a candidate for the presidency of Mozambique, discusses a new phase of protests starting soon. This phase is tied to the upcoming transition of power, with the president and new legislature set to take office by January 15-17. The protests aim to express rejection of the disputed electoral results, which Mondelano claims are deeply flawed, as noted by Mozambique’s Attorney General, legal experts, and international observers.

On Allegations of Violence and Protests:

Mondelano denies advocating for arming the population but highlights state violence against protesters, calling it a “massacre.” He mentions instances of police brutality and killings during peaceful demonstrations, including the use of live ammunition against unarmed citizens. He points out that various trained groups in Mozambique, including some within the official armed forces, are ready to defend the people exercising their constitutional right to protest.

    Possible Civil War:

Mondelano acknowledges the risk of civil war due to escalating tensions but emphasizes his efforts to prevent violence. He describes his approach as one of containment, introducing peaceful protest measures to avoid widespread unrest. He blames the government and police for initiating violence.

    International Support:

Mondelano has engaged with the European Parliament and international bodies, highlighting irregularities in Mozambique’s elections. He notes significant solidarity from Portuguese citizens and intellectuals, though he criticizes the Portuguese government’s response as uninformed. He hopes Portugal will play a key role in Mozambique’s integration into Europe and support its democratic aspirations.

    Transition of Power:

Mondelano rejects the legitimacy of the upcoming inauguration of Daniel Chapo from the ruling FRELIMO party. He plans to establish a “People’s Constitutional Court” to validate his claim to the presidency, emphasizing legal and peaceful means to challenge the results.

    Proposed Dialogue and Mediation:

Despite the government’s alleged use of violence, Mondelano remains open to dialogue. He calls for international mediation, involving the United Nations, international human rights organizations, the International Criminal Court, and key actors like Portugal, the European Union, the U.S., South Africa, and the Vatican.

    Closing Remarks:

Mondelano reiterates his commitment to peaceful solutions and thanks CNN for the opportunity to discuss Mozambique’s political crisis.

The following is the interview’s text translated word for word into clear English:

    Host Introduction:

Our guest on CNN Fim de Tarde is Venâncio Mondelano, candidate for the presidency of Mozambique. Good afternoon, welcome to CNN Fim de Tarde. Recently, you’ve been speaking about a new phase of protests, the details of which will be revealed next Monday. What is this phase, and what scenario should the country expect?

    Venâncio Mondelano:

Thank you very much to CNN Portugal for this opportunity. This phase, let’s say, is the phase that precedes the final stage of the electoral calendar. As you know, strictly speaking, by January 15, 16, and 17, the President of the Republic and the new legislature of the Assembly of the Republic must take office. In this final phase, we will have a set of measures for protests and demonstrations of rejection, which will be entirely different from the approximately four phases before that began on October 21 and ran, let’s say, until last Friday. Certainly, I won’t give details about this, for obvious reasons, but it’s nothing more or less than the continuation of protests—a continuation of the demonstration of rejection of this agreement, which is more than proven. The agreement by the Constitutional Council had more than enough grounds not to have been validated.

The Attorney General’s Office, which is a competent and qualified institution for this purpose, stated that the elections—the provisional results of the National Electoral Commission—were unfounded, contradictory, and riddled with irregularities, making them unfit for validation. Furthermore, the legal opinion of the Bar Association highlighted the gross irregularities in the electoral process, and the European Union observation mission also pointed out irregularities that, under normal circumstances, should have prevented the Constitutional Council from even considering validating these results.

    Host:

You’ve been accused of threatening to arm the Mozambican population protesting the election results. Will this new phase include that step? What needs to happen for you to take such a step, and what is your objective in considering it?

    Venâncio Mondelano:

No, I did not suggest arming the population. From the beginning, we’ve always identified ourselves as a purely civil movement. What I said was that what’s happening is a massacre in Mozambique against protesters. The official numbers released are the ones that are convenient to the government. For instance, following a staged prison escape at Mozambique’s largest prison, there are over 100 bodies in the morgue at the Central Hospital labeled as unidentified. This indicates far more unidentified victims of the massacre.

What I’m saying is that there is, in fact, an armed government that is disproportionately suppressing the constitutional right to protest. It is killing citizens indiscriminately. What I mentioned was that there are various groups in Mozambique, including within the official armed forces, and other militarily trained forces, that are now offering to defend the population when they exercise their constitutional right to protest. We now feel compelled to accept the help of these forces that see the need to protect the population during what I would describe as a genocide taking place in Mozambique.

    Host:

With the intensification of protests in this new phase, could Mozambique be on the path to a civil war? Do you admit this possibility?

    Venâncio Mondelano:

Yes, let me say this. I once spoke to the President of the Republic and told him that, strictly speaking, the Mozambican government, the FRELIMO party, and the president himself should feel gratitude toward me. From the start, since October, the general sentiment of the Mozambican population has been one of deep and burning revolt. People wanted to resort to extreme violence immediately.

The steps I’ve introduced, with their somewhat suggestive names, are precisely to contain the population and prevent an escalation of extreme violence. That’s why the measures I announce are, in truth, ways to contain the burning desire of the people to resort to violence.

    Host:

So, you’re saying that the violence comes from the other side—the authorities?

    Venâncio Mondelano:

Naturally. Let me give you a simple example. When we began the first protests on October 21—the reference date for all processes—I called for a national strike to paralyze all work in Mozambique. Two days earlier, on October 19, my personal lawyer and national representative were murdered with 25 bullets from a military weapon. I invited the population to simply show rejection of this barbaric assassination of my lawyer.

When the national strike happened, all activity ceased. I personally, in front of international journalists and some Portuguese media outlets, was attacked by the police while giving an interview. From the outset, the police intended to create situations to justify extreme violence and kill people. On October 21, I was personally hit by a tear gas canister during the protests.

Even during our second phase of protests, which included symbolic, peaceful measures such as stopping the country at noon and singing the national anthem, police shot people kneeling while singing. The goal of the National Police has always been to assassinate citizens and use extreme violence, which continues today.

    Host:

What kind of contact have you had with the international community, and have you received any support for your cause?

    Venâncio Mondelano:

We don’t have anything definitive yet, but we’ve made preliminary contacts. I had a high-level opportunity to speak with the European Parliament and its member parties, thanks in part to Portuguese MPs from initiatives like the Liberal Initiative. I explained Mozambique’s situation to the European Parliament.

I believe that the Portuguese people, based on my observations and conversations, are very supportive of Mozambique. However, the Portuguese government and the EU should treat Mozambique’s crisis with the same urgency given to Venezuela or Georgia. The recent EU observation mission concluded that the elections in Mozambique were neither free, fair, nor transparent and were marred by severe irregularities that should have prevented their validation.

Benni McCarthy Set to Become Harambee Stars Head Coach?

    Sports Correspondent

Benni McCarthy is reportedly poised to take over as the new head coach of the Kenya national football team, Harambee Stars.

McCarthy, who has been without a club since leaving Manchester United in June, where he served as assistant coach to Erik Ten Hag, is said to have emerged as the top candidate for the role. According to reports from both Kenya and South Africa, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) recently conducted interviews and has made the decision to appoint the former Bafana Bafana striker.

The 46-year-old South African is expected to begin his tenure in January 2025.

McCarthy will take over from Engin Firat, who resigned earlier this month after a three-year stint as the national team coach. Firat’s resignation followed Kenya’s elimination from the race to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, with Zimbabwe playing a key role in ending their hopes.

    The Seatbelt And Driver’s Protection

Seatbelts are one of the most vital safety features in any vehicle, designed to protect drivers and passengers in the event of an accident. Much like airbags, seatbelts serve as a life-saving measure, reducing the risk of injury or death during a collision.

Despite the proven effectiveness of seatbelts in preventing serious injuries, many people still choose not to wear them while driving or riding in a vehicle. This reckless behavior significantly increases the risk of harm in the event of an accident.

When a person fails to wear a seatbelt, they are at a much higher risk of being ejected from the vehicle during a crash, which can be fatal. Even at low speeds, the force of a collision can cause severe injuries to unrestrained individuals. Seatbelts keep occupants securely in their seats, preventing them from being thrown around inside the vehicle or from being ejected through the windshield.

The benefits of seatbelt use are undeniable. Studies consistently show that seatbelts reduce the risk of fatal injury by 45% for drivers and 60% for passengers.

For children, the risk is even more significant, as seatbelts, when used correctly, can prevent serious injury or death.

While seatbelts are an essential safety feature, their effectiveness depends on consistent and correct usage.

Simply having a seatbelt in the car is not enough; everyone in the vehicle, regardless of age or seat position, should always buckle up. It is crucial for drivers to set an example and encourage all passengers to wear their seatbelts.

In conclusion, the importance of seatbelts cannot be overstated. They are a simple yet effective tool that saves lives and prevents serious injuries. Those who choose not to wear them are putting themselves in great danger. Buckling up should always be a top priority for anyone behind the wheel or riding as a passenger.

Earthquakes Threaten To Burst Kariba Dam

By Munacho Chimonyo—A series of earthquakes shook the Kariba region earlier this week, with authorities confirming multiple seismic events but reporting no major damage or casualties.

The Zambezi River Authority (ZRA) attributed the tremors to reservoir-induced seismicity caused by fluctuations in water levels within the Kariba reservoir.

The most significant quake, recorded on Monday, had a magnitude of 4.9 and was centred approximately 19 kilometres southeast of the Kariba Dam, near Antelope Island in Zimbabwe.

ZRA Chief Executive Munyaradzi Munodawafa explained that such seismic activity has been an occasional feature in the area since the construction of the dam, reassuring residents about its safety.
“The earthquakes in Kariba, Siavonga, and surrounding areas are relatively small and have not caused ground vibrations significant enough to pose a threat to the dam wall’s stability,” Munodawafa stated.

Since December 1, 2024, six other earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 4.1 to 4.7 have been reported in the region.

The epicentres were located within the Kariba reservoir or nearby areas, such as the Charara Safari Area, between 19km and 40km southeast of Kariba Town.

ZRA confirmed that inspections and data analysis following the tremors showed no unusual activity, with the dam continuing to operate under normal conditions.

Residents have been advised to report any irregularities or concerns as a precautionary measure.

The Kariba Dam, jointly operated by Zambia and Zimbabwe, remains a vital infrastructure project, providing the region with hydroelectric power, water storage, and flood control.

While the earthquakes have unsettled locals, authorities remain vigilant, with continuous monitoring to ensure public safety and the dam’s structural integrity.

Kasukuwere Vows To Block Mnangagwa’s Unconstitutional Stay In Office

    By A Correspondent

Saviour Kasukuwere, the former ZANU PF Political Commissar and leader of the Generation 40 (G40) faction, has made a firm vow to block President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s efforts to extend his time in office beyond the constitutional limit.

Mnangagwa has been working to consolidate his power, with the aim of amending the country’s constitution to allow him to remain in office beyond his current term, which is set to end in 2028. However, Kasukuwere dismisses these efforts as unrealistic, vowing to prevent Mnangagwa from achieving his goal in the 2025 elections.

This statement came in response to remarks by ZANU PF Central Committee member Jenfan Muswere, who asserted that the resolutions made at the party’s recent Annual People’s Conference are binding, as they were unanimously adopted by the delegates.

Muswere emphasized that when the resolutions were presented during the conference, there were no objections from the attendees. Among the resolutions passed was one to extend Mnangagwa’s term by two years, allowing him to continue his Vision 2030 agenda.

The resolution stated: “The Delegates to the ZANU PF 21st National People’s Conference resolve as follows: the President and First Secretary of ZANU PF Party, His Excellency, Cde. Dr E. D. Mnangagwa’s term of office as President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and First Secretary of ZANU PF be extended beyond 2028 to 2030. The Party and Government should, therefore, set in motion the necessary amendments to the National Constitution so as to give effect to this resolution.”

Despite this official stance, Kasukuwere, who has previously stated that Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 will not come to fruition, made it clear that he would personally tackle the issue in the near future.

“It’s a Tingiringo resolution. I will handle it in the coming weeks. For now, let’s rest,” he said, underscoring his determination to challenge the move and prevent Mnangagwa from remaining in power beyond 2025.

Kasukuwere Labels Mnangagwa a Daydreamer, Vows to Stop His “Selfish” Plans

    By A Correspondent

Saviour Kasukuwere, the former ZANU PF Political Commissar and leader of the Generation 40 (G40) faction, has strongly rejected President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ambitions to extend his time in office beyond the constitutionally mandated limit.

Mnangagwa has been working to consolidate his hold on power, aiming to amend the Zimbabwean constitution in order to remain in office beyond the current term, which is due to end in 2028. However, Kasukuwere dismissed these efforts as “daydreams” and vowed to thwart Mnangagwa’s plan during the 2025 elections.

Kasukuwere’s comments were made in response to statements by ZANU PF Central Committee member Jenfan Muswere, who claimed that the resolutions passed at the party’s recent Annual People’s Conference are binding, having been adopted unanimously by the delegates.

Muswere highlighted that when the resolutions were read out during the conference, there were no objections from any of the delegates. One key resolution called for extending Mnangagwa’s term by two additional years to ensure the completion of his Vision 2030 agenda.

Despite this official stance, Kasukuwere, who has previously insisted that Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 will not be realized, made it clear that he will confront this issue head-on. “It’s a Tingiringo resolution.

I will handle it in the coming weeks. For now, let’s rest,” he declared, emphasizing his commitment to blocking Mnangagwa’s attempt to stay in power beyond 2025.

Zanu PF Vows to Influence ZIFA Elections

Mnangagwa Starves War Vets On Christmas

By Political Reporter-War veterans, once the backbone of Zanu PF’s political machinery, face a bleak festive season as government neglect and financial crises plunge their welfare into turmoil.

Since September 2024, the Treasury has failed to meet its obligations to war veterans, leaving them without critical payouts, unpaid medical bills, and insufficient educational support for their children.

The Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs, responsible for their welfare, has admitted it is in a financial bind.

Albert Nguluvhe, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Defence, Home Affairs, Veterans of the Liberation Struggle, and Security, detailed the dire situation in a recent 2025 post-budget analysis report.

“The Ministry owes ZWG10.25 million to medical providers, with unpaid surgeries totalling ZWG6.52 million. Annual costs for dialysis and chemotherapy are ZWG11.18 million and ZWG3.03 million, respectively,”

Nguluvhe disclosed that the allocated ZWG121.84 million healthcare budget for 2025 is a mere 40% of the ZWG312.83 million required.

This shortfall is expected to leave veterans without vital healthcare services by May 2025.

The education of veterans’ children is similarly underfunded, with ZWG137.22 million allocated for 2025, far below the ideal ZWG315.25 million.

Much of this allocation will cover 2024 arrears, leaving only ZWG26.26 million for the new year—insufficient to cover even a single school term.

“The Ministry needs an additional ZWG218.78 million to adequately support 6,395 students. Current funding levels only worsen the crisis,” Nguluvhe added.

The gap between rhetoric and reality has sparked outrage among war veterans.

Petros Sibanda, Secretary General of the ZPRA Veterans Association, decried the neglect, calling on the Treasury to reprioritise its expenditures.

“Many veterans remain unpaid, including those vetted as far back as 2022. The government must address this injustice urgently,” Sibanda said.

The neglect of war veterans underscores a glaring contradiction in Zanu PF’s strategy.

For decades, veterans have been instrumental in the party’s election tactics, often deployed to intimidate opposition supporters and consolidate rural votes.

However, their growing discontent now threatens to fracture this alliance.

“Veterans sacrificed their youth for Zimbabwe’s liberation. It is a travesty that they are now treated with such disregard,” Sibanda concluded.

Govt Introduces New Curriculum, Dumps CALAs

Harare—The Government has announced the phasing out of Continuous Assessment Learning Activities (CALAs) in favour of School-Based Projects (SBPs), signalling a positive shift in Zimbabwe’s educational landscape.

The new curriculum framework, branded the Heritage-Based Curriculum, is set to be implemented in 2025.

It aims to address educational needs of the future by incorporating updated teaching and assessment strategies that align with global trends and digital advancements.

CALAs, introduced under the 2015–2022 curriculum framework, faced widespread criticism for being hastily imposed without adequate consultation with key stakeholders, including educators, parents, and learners.

The approach was often seen as burdensome, lacking in practical value, and poorly aligned with real-world applications.

Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education spokesperson, Mr. Taungana Ndoro, emphasised that the Heritage-Based Curriculum will equip students with essential skills for a rapidly evolving digital world. “The new framework focuses on ensuring students are better prepared for future challenges through modern teaching methodologies and practical assessment strategies,” he said.

The SBPs, which replace CALAs, are designed to foster critical thinking, creativity, and hands-on learning.

Unlike CALAs, the SBPs aim to integrate seamlessly into the broader curriculum, ensuring relevance and enhancing students’ overall educational experience.

These projects will contribute significantly to students’ assessments, providing a more practical and skills-based approach.

The transition marks the end of the 2015–2022 curriculum for the 2024 cohorts of Grade Seven, Form Four, and Form Six learners.

Mr. Ndoro clarified that these groups would be the last to graduate under the old framework, paving the way for the Heritage-Based Curriculum.

“This new curriculum framework represents a broader effort to enhance educational quality and relevance, aligning with Zimbabwe’s developmental goals while preparing learners for the demands of the future,” he added.

The police warned motorcyclists who are riding or moving on the roads without helmets, with some carrying passengers, that arrests will be effected and the law will take its course without fear or favour.
Police were also taking action on those engaging in drug and substance abuse, adding that as the public celebrates the cross-over into the New Year, individuals, institutions and businesspersons must adhere to provisions of the law on the use of fireworks, fire crackers and other gadgets that may disturb the safety and security of the people.

    Of Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Sleepless Nights

    By A Correspondent

Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has indicated that significant changes are on the horizon, with a Cabinet reshuffle expected soon.

The Zanu PF leader made these remarks during a recent interview with ZBC News at State House.

Sources suggest that Mnangagwa is preparing to restructure his Cabinet to reduce the influence of those perceived to be loyal to his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga.

This move is seen as part of an ongoing power struggle within the ruling party.

“Ndiri kumirira kuti vanhu vapedze kufara ndozovaudza vanofanira kudzoka kubasa nevanofanira kugara kumba depending ne performance,” Mnangagwa stated in the interview. In English, he said, “I am waiting for people to finish celebrating, then I will tell them who should return to work and who should stay at home, depending on performance.”

This statement has fuelled speculation that the reshuffle may be a calculated move to strengthen Mnangagwa’s grip on both the party and government by sidelining those whose allegiance may lie with Chiwenga.

Tensions have reportedly been rising within Zanu PF, with various factions vying for power and influence following the 2023 elections.

Additionally, with constitutional provisions stating that Mnangagwa is not expected to remain in office beyond 2028, these moves could also be seen as preparations for a transition of leadership.

As Zimbabweans await the reshuffle, Mnangagwa’s comments have set the stage for potential political shifts, with many closely monitoring the developments within the ruling party.

BUS ACCIDENT: Six Injured in Toyota Hilux and Bus Collision on Bulawayo-Beitbridge Highway

Bulawayo – Six people were injured yesterday when a Toyota Hilux collided head-on with a bus along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge highway, near the Bulawayo Student Accommodation Complex. The accident occurred after the Toyota Hilux driver veered into the oncoming lane of the bus traveling from the Kensington, Sihlengeni area.

    The aftermath

The victims included the drivers of both vehicles and four bus passengers, who sustained varying injuries. Bulawayo’s chief fire officer, Mr. Nhlanganiso Moyo, reported that the fire brigade received the emergency call at 4:30 PM and arrived at the scene within six minutes.

    The Scene and Vehicle Conditions

The Toyota Hilux, as seen in the aftermath, suffered severe front-end damage. The impact left the vehicle almost unrecognizable, with the hood, bumper, and front-right wheel area completely crushed. The windshield was shattered, and the structural integrity of the front cabin was significantly compromised. The bus also sustained notable damage but remained intact enough to avoid passenger entrapment.

Emergency services swiftly removed the injured individuals from the vehicles, transporting them to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) for medical attention. Thankfully, there were no fatalities, and the fire brigade confirmed that none of the victims were trapped within the wreckage.

    Emergency Measures Taken

The fire brigade also decontaminated a 100-meter stretch of the highway that was heavily affected by oil spillage from the vehicles. This was done using a special detergent to ensure road safety and prevent further incidents.

Mr. Moyo commended the quick response of the emergency teams and urged drivers to avoid reckless overtaking and speeding, particularly in areas with blind spots.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible driving, especially on busy highways. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.

Bail Hearing for Chivayo’s Former Business Partners Rescheduled …

    By A Correspondent

The bail hearing for Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu, former business partners of Wicknell Chivayo, in the Presidential Goat Pass-On Scheme fraud case, has been rescheduled to January 3, 2025.

According to The Herald, the pair is seeking bail under new circumstances. Initially set for January 17, 2025, the hearing was moved forward after their legal team informed Judge President Mary Dube of a crucial legal requirement.

Bail applications are required to be heard within 48 hours of filing, with appeals to be resolved within 96 hours. The hearing was originally postponed to December 27, 2024, but the prosecution, citing a lack of preparedness, requested a delay to January 3 to provide a comprehensive response. Both parties agreed to the extension.

Chimombe and Mpofu face charges of defrauding the Presidential Goat Pass-On Scheme of US$7.7 million. Earlier this month, their attempt to have the case referred to the Constitutional Court was dismissed by Justice Pisirayi Kwenda. The pair had argued that their arrest, detention, and pre-trial processes infringed upon their constitutional rights, warranting intervention from the Constitutional Court.

xplosive Leaked Audio Exposes Tensions Between Mai Titi, Bruno, and Aide Jenel

A leaked audio file featuring a private conversation between Jenel, a close aide of Zimbabwean entertainer Mai Titi (Felistas Murata), and Bruno from Bruno Furnitures, has sent social media into a frenzy. The audio reveals deep-seated frustrations, personal betrayals, and hints of a crumbling relationship within Mai Titi’s inner circle.

During the conversation, Bruno is heard urging Jenel to distance himself from Mai Titi, saying, “You must leave Mai Titi; she is wasting your future, seeing all you’ve told me.” Jenel appears to agree, expressing frustration over being drawn into what he describes as Mai Titi’s personal dramas.

“How long are we going to fight the fights of moms?” Jenel remarks, referring to Mai Titi by her nickname. Bruno responds in agreement, stating, “You don’t lie at all.”

The conversation takes an even more startling turn as Jenel claims that Mai Titi expressed indifference toward Bruno, saying, “When I heard that you are now working together, she told me she does not care about Bruno and all. I got shocked.” He goes on to reveal that the drama eventually involved reaching out to the Nyathi family, though the specifics of their involvement remain unclear.

Jenel laments the constant turmoil surrounding Mai Titi, saying, “Moms has her wars, but sometimes she expects us to join her silly wars.” Bruno concludes the conversation on a resigned note, saying they should “just go ahead God’s way.”

My Goal Is To Transform Football: Sabelo Maphosa

Former football referee and CAF referees’ instructor, Sabelo Maphosa, is eager to bring her extensive experience in football to the ZIFA board. With over two decades in the sport, Maphosa is confident that her background in officiating and leadership will enable her to contribute to the growth and development of Zimbabwean football.

Maphosa’s journey in football began in 1986 when she started refereeing and progressed to the position of match commissioner. She is now a CAF-certified referees’ instructor, having gained invaluable knowledge and experience along the way. “I have been involved in football for over 20 years and I believe I can offer a lot to the development of the game in Zimbabwe,” she said.

A key area Maphosa is passionate about is addressing the lack of Zimbabwean referees in international assignments. She believes this issue needs urgent attention, highlighting that poor officiating has negative effects on the sport, including disappointing sponsors and teams. “We need officials who maintain high standards and uphold the rules of the game, free from external influences. The decisions of referees should be final, and good officiating can be achieved by focusing on qualified officials starting at grassroots levels, such as NAPH and NASH,” she explained.

The ZIFA board will elect six members to help shape the future of Zimbabwean football, and Maphosa is eager to play her part in the nation’s football renaissance.
