Investigations confirm that Clever Hills residents created an unauthorized path cutting through private property on Mt Breezes to access a tarred road. The road is not part of any approved subdivision layout.

Wilson Mhuri, spokesperson for the Mt Breezes Residents Association, highlighted that Crowhill’s 2013 subdivision plan includes a designated road leading to a public roundabout, making the illegal path unnecessary. He added, “We gave Clever Hills residents four years to build their own road, but they have failed.”

A 2020 High Court ruling (HC 4174/2020) upheld Mt Breezes’ rights, confirming no legal public road exists between the properties. Despite the ruling, Clever Hills residents have continued using the unauthorized route, prompting Mt Breezes to install surveillance cameras and pursue legal action.

Goromonzi North legislator Ozias Bvute emphasized the need to respect court orders and accused a local land baron of fueling the conflict by selling illegal plots. He urged residents to prioritize lawful infrastructure development.

“It’s unfortunate that there are elements that have chosen to misaligne by infactually saying things that are not true. At the instant, Mt Breezes is a private development that obtained a court order which enables it to enclose their community and adjoining roads within their development.

“It would be irresponsible to encourage the residents that I represent in the greater Goromonzi to disregard court orders. Court orders must be respected and negotiations should be held with Mt Breezes that allow for an amicable resolution to the current impasse. But the premise is that court orders should be respected. Essentially, that’s what constitutes the upholding of the rule of law, which is what normal people are encouraged to do,” he said

He added, “the residents are being fronted by a prominent land baron who has illegally sold pieces of land that dont belong to them and by virtue of being put under pressure by the people she sold to is now trying to create confusion from issues around their settlement which is illegal.”

Mt Breezes maintains that it cannot accommodate illegal activities on its private property and encourages Clever Hills residents to construct a legal road as per their approved plans.

The SAMIDRC mission, which has been tasked with supporting the DRC government in stabilizing the volatile eastern region, will be a central topic. As its mandate nears expiration at the end of December, SADC leaders will likely review the mission’s progress and consider renewing its mandate.

The situation in the DRC, however, continues to deteriorate, with militia violence and instability persisting in the region.

This ongoing failure to curb conflict raises serious questions about SADC’s effectiveness under Mnangagwa’s leadership, especially given the organization’s past shortcomings in addressing similar crises.

Three armed robbers have been sentenced to a total of 114 years in prison after being convicted on 10 counts of robbery at the Bindura Magistrate Court on Tuesday.

Ladma Mutesa (39), Tapiwa Nyakudya (31), and Sande Saini (32) were each handed an effective 38-year sentence following their conviction for a series of armed robberies.

Magistrate Felix Chauromwe initially sentenced each of the men to 50 years in prison, but suspended 12 years of their sentences on the condition of good behavior.

According to state documents, the trio carried out a series of robberies in Nyakudya Mazarura Village, located in the Chief Masembura area of Bindura, in April. They reportedly used iron bars to break into homes, stealing electrical appliances, cash, groceries, and other valuables.

In one particularly violent incident on April 21, 2024, the robbers broke into a home where six people were sleeping, assaulting the victims before making off with their possessions. Authorities say the robbers were aided by accomplices who are still at large.

In a shocking incident, Munetsi Munemo, a 41-year-old man from Murape Village in Dema, was convicted of physically abusing his 70-year-old mother, Shupikai Munemo. The altercation occurred when Munetsi’s mother refused to give his son money for Civvies Day at school.

On Friday, at around 7 am, Munetsi sent his child to ask his mother for money, but she replied that she had none. Enraged, Munetsi woke his mother up, pointed at her, and punched her in the mouth.

During the trial, Munetsi justified his actions, stating that he didn’t have money to give his child and wanted his mother to provide it instead.

The court initially sentenced Munetsi to eight months in prison, with four months suspended on the condition that he wouldn’t commit a similar crime within the next five years.

The remaining four months were converted to 280 hours of community service.

This sentence aims to hold Munetsi accountable for his actions while also providing an opportunity for rehabilitation.

Zimbabwe is grappling with a fresh cholera outbreak, mere months after declaring the end of a previous epidemic that claimed over 700 lives in just 18 months.

This latest wave of infection has been confirmed in the Kariba District, where 21 cases have been reported, and one individual has died. Health officials are now scrambling to contain the situation as the country confronts its recurring battle with waterborne diseases.

Dr. Godfrey Muza, the district medical officer for Kariba, outlined the government’s response to the outbreak. In a statement to Voice of America (VOA), he explained the urgent measures being taken to address the crisis:

“We have set up a cholera equipment camp and some oral rehydration points within the affected villages. Zimbabweans turning 18 years old will soon be automatically added to the voter roll under a new system set to be introduced before the 2028 elections.

Speaking on the matter, Sikhala said, “The extraordinary @SADC_News Summit to be convened in Harare in a few days time is a lobbying gala by the party, which congratulated the false winner in the election held in Mozambique before the official announcement of the results.”

He further emphasized that the summit would not lead to any substantial decisions, stating that “The Extraordinary @SADC_News Summit will just be a talkshow as the Mozambique Constitutional Council hasn’t announced its verdict on the election outcome.”

The controversy surrounding Mozambique’s elections has been growing, with opposition parties accusing the ruling party, FRELIMO, of electoral fraud.

In an interview with South African State broadcaster, Rusere revealed that his organization has launched an investigation into the role Zimbabwe played in the Mozambican electoral process. The allegations stem from claims that Zimbabwean nationals were involved in voting in Mozambique’s election, potentially swaying the outcome in favor of the ruling party, Frelimo. The National Electoral Commission of Mozambique declared Frelimo’s Daniel Chapo as the winner, but opposition party PODEMOS, led by Venacio Mondlane, has strongly disputed the results, accusing Frelimo of electoral fraud.

“We have launched an investigation to find out what exactly transpired in Mozambique, which led us to understand that there has been interference by the Zimbabwean President and the ruling party,” Rusere said. “We believe there are credible reports that Zimbabweans were being sent across the border to vote during the Mozambican elections, which could have influenced the election outcome.”

Storm Devastates Mberengwa, Killing Grade 3 Learner and Injuring 14 Others

Mberengwa, Zimbabwe – November 13, 2024 | A devastating storm has wreaked havoc in Mberengwa, claiming the life of a Grade 3 learner and injuring 14 others at Zvemukonde Secondary School after the school’s roof was blown off. The tragedy unfolded during intense rains and strong winds that caused widespread destruction across the district.

The young girl, dressed in her school uniform, was killed when the roof of a nearby grocery store collapsed on her. “The girl, who was in school uniform, was hit by rubble and died on the spot,” confirmed Mberengwa District Development Coordinator, Mr. Vafias Hlabati.

School and Hospital Devastation

At Zvemukonde Secondary School, 14 learners were injured when flying roofing sheets from a classroom block struck them. They were rushed to Zvishavane District Hospital for treatment. “From the information I got this morning (yesterday), all were treated and discharged,” said Mr. Hlabati.

The storm also caused extensive damage to Mnene Hospital, the district’s major referral facility. Several wards had their roofs blown off, and critical water tanks supplying the hospital were damaged.

Widespread Damage

The storm impacted 21 schools, two district hospitals, and 54 homesteads. Many of the affected schools have been forced to suspend lessons and examinations, further disrupting education in the district.

Local authorities are now appealing for urgent provincial assistance to address the damage. “The district has since approached the provincial office for support,” said Mr. Hlabati.

The loss of life and damage to essential infrastructure have left the community reeling. Parents and teachers expressed shock and grief over the tragedy, calling for measures to ensure school safety during storms.
