Businessman Who Killed His 7 Year Old Daughter To Evade Maintenance Given The Death Sentence

A MUREWA man has been slapped with the death penalty after murdering his seven-year-old daughter in 2017 as he sought to evade paying $30 maintenance.

Charles Kavhumbura has been committed to custody while awaiting his execution for strangling his daughter to death.

In his ruling, High Court judge Tawanda Chitapi noted that although debate on the death sentence was still topical, it would be applied guided by the Constitution.

“The discretionary power to impose the death penalty should be exercised judiciously and reasonably lest the exercise may turn out to be arbitrary and capricious…In as much the convict will have subtracted from society one of its members, the court when imposing the death penalty seeks that society should, again using the law, consume one of its own on account of having killed another,” Chitapi said.

Kavhumbura said he had murdered the child to lessen the burden of paying maintenance which had been granted at $30 per month for three of his children with his ex-wife Pedzisai Kachepa.

“The accused killed the child in order to avoid a lawful maintenance obligation imposed by a court of law. Such conduct naturally offends one’s sense of justice and increases the level of moral blameworthiness which is attached to the accused’s conduct,” Chitapi said.

The State proved that on October 14, 2017, around 10 am, the now deceased, Rufaro, went to her father’s grinding mill with her sibling, Tanaka.

The court heard that Kavhumbura told his daughter to return by herself.

When she returned, Kavhumbura strangled his daughter and carried her lifeless body to a pond where he intended to dump it.

However, when he got to the pond and placed the body on the ground the girl stood up, but was very weak and Kavhumbura strangled her again until he was sure that she was dead.

After dumping his daughter’s body into the pond, he then went back home. The girl’s mother went to Kavhumbura’s residence looking for her, but he professed ignorance about her whereabouts.

The body was later discovered by children who had gone to drink water at the pond and police were alerted.

Kavhumbura then called one James Butau, a traditional healer to assist him to appease his deceased daughter’s avenging spirit.

Covid-19 Deaths On The Increase In Zimbabwe

While the national recovery rate stands at 80%, Zimbabwe has seen an increase in the number of deaths, with 13 new deaths being recorded this Wednesday following the 11 recorded on Tuesday.

The total number of deaths now stands at 179, with 103 of these being in Harare.

Of the 13 new deaths announced by the Ministry of Health and Child Care, 10 were in Harare, two in Matabeleland South and one in Mashonaland East.

55 new cases were recorded this Wednesday taking the cumulative total to 6 251.

The number of active cases now stands at 1071 following an increase in the number of recoveries by 40 to 5 001.

Harare remains the worst-hit province with 2 498 cases and 103 deaths, although it has recorded 1 962 recoveries. Bulawayo has 1 260 cases, 29 deaths and 1 140 recoveries while Matabeleland South has 632 cases, four deaths and 436 recoveries.

“ZACC Officials” Walk Away US$23k Richer After Raiding A Gold Dealer’s Home At Night

State Media

A GOLD miner lost US$20 000 after three suspects masquerading as Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) officials stormed his house in Gwabalanda suburb and demanded documents authorising him to conduct mining activities before they took away his money.

The suspects ordered the complainant to get into their car under the guise that they were taking him to Luveve Police Station for further investigations. They dumped him along the way and disappeared with his money.

The incident occurred on August 4 at around 2am, but the complainant only reported the matter to the police over the weekend after he got suspicious when the suspects failed to contact him again.

The victim was asleep when the trio knocked on the door in the early morning hours. When he opened the door, they stormed into the house and demanded mining documents. The victim failed to produce them and the suspects searched his house and took a bag containing US$23 000 and a gold detector. They ordered him to get into their getaway car and later dumped him along the way.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident yesterday, saying investigations are underway.

“I can confirm that we have launched a manhunt for three suspects who posed as Zacc officials before they robbed a Bulawayo man of US$23 000. What is of concern to us as police is that the incident occurred on August 4, but the complainant only reported it a few days ago,” he said.

“The complainant was asleep at his house in Gwabalanda when he heard a knock on the door at around 2am. Upon opening the door, the three suspects stormed into the house and demanded mining documents, which he failed to produce.”

Asst Comm Nyathi said the suspects searched the house and took a gold detector and a bag containing US$23 000 and left the house together with the complainant whom they later dumped along the way.

“Initially, the suspects took the complainant with him under the pretext of taking him to Luveve Police Station. They returned his gold detector before they later and dumped him along the way and drove away,” he said.

“It appears the suspects knew that the complainant was into mining and posed as Zaac officials. As police, we urge people who are into business to be extra careful. They must not release information regarding their businesses to strangers, especially in terms of how they run their business.”

The incident occurred at a time when police have intensified campaigns to educate members of the public against keeping huge amounts of money in their houses. Of late there has been an increase in the number of cases where unsuspecting victims have been losing money and other valuables to thieves who steal from houses and cars.

In June, a gold mine manager lost nearly US$50 000 to thieves who broke into his car minutes after he had sold gold to a dealer in Bulawayo.

West Nicholson-located Jessie Gold Mine manager only identified as Mr De Villiers (54) is alleged to have lost $46 830 to thieves who broke into his car while he had entered a shop in Belmont industrial site.

Bushiri Accused Of Holding Women Into “Manifestation” Then Raping Them While Hypnotized

ENCA

Self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri might be facing more than just fraud and money-laundering charges.

Police have confirmed they’re investigating the multi-millionaire leader of the Enlightened Christian Gathering church for the alleged rape of two women.

Their stories of alleged sexual abuse at the hands of the prophet are remarkably similar.

Thandi (*not her real name) is a mother who went to church often.

She claims the prophet would stare at her during the services, sometimes even coming to stand next to her while he preached.

It didn’t take long for a church elder to tell her that Bushiri wanted to meet her at a hotel to pray.

This is when things took a sinister turn.

She claims he insisted on a hug, and then tried to kiss her.

“I’m like no you can’t do this to me. You are married. He said, I don’t care, I shouldn’t worry about that. I was like no I can’t. That’s when from there he touched me here (forehead) so that’s when I manifested, I don’t know I was under the power. That I don’t even know. So from there he took off the clothes then he raped me.”

She said the man told her to take R5,000 and leave

Thandi is not alone.

Another young woman, Lerato (*not her real name) also shared a story of being lured to a hotel.

After one of his sermons, she says Bushiri asked her and her cousin to join a special service the following day.

They were going to meet at church but then the pastor allegedly suggested they meet at a hotel.

When Lerato arrived, she says found the pastor naked.

“He then asked me to take my clothes off! He told me to turn around and I did that shaking…afraid… I didn’t know what to do. That’s when he came up to me and everything happened. And then after that, he told me to take out 5K out of the drawer, to go book myself another room.”

Both women have opened cases with the police and while they wait for justice, they’ve stopped attending the church.

Police have confirmed they’re investigating the allegations.

One investigation is still ongoing while another is already complete and a docket was sent to the NPA at the beginning of last year for a decision on prosecution.

It’s not the first time Bushiri has faced rape allegations.

In 2018, a Sunday newspaper reported that the Hawks were investigating him after a Pretoria woman had come forward. She later recanted her story.

The Enlightened Christian Gathering church was given more than 48 hours to respond but the church hasn’t availed itself for comment.

The two women say they’re now pinning their hopes on the justice system to finally vindicate them so they can finally start the healing process.

Sikhala’s Freedom Bid Flops

By A Correspondent- Harare magistrates Lanzini Ncube on Thursday dismissed an application by MDC Alliance vice-chairperson, Job Sikhala who sought to be removed from remand.

The magistrate made a ruling after leading evidence, state witness, Collins Makore from the CID law and order narrated to the court that they had difficulties arresting Sikhala who was hiding in the ceiling.

They told the court that the Zengeza West legislator only cooperated after threats of being teargassed. The development was announced by his legal representatives, the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights who said:

Hon Sikhala will remain in prison after magistrate Ncube dismissed his application challenging remand. He says state succeeded in proving that there is reasonable suspicion that Hon Sikhala committed an offence.

Sikhala was arrested last week Friday after a month of evading police who had indicated that they wanted him for questioning in connection with the foiled 31 July antigovernment protests.

He is accused of inciting public violence after he, together with others, planned the demonstrations and encouraged the public to participate.

The magistrate ruled against Sikhala despite him arguing that he was receiving death threats from Chikurubi Maximum prison boss and that he was exposed to the coronavirus pandemic in prison.

NewsDay journalist Rex Mphisa and Zimpapers sales representative Charles Marerwa were on 27 August 2020 acquitted by Magistrate Ania Chimweta on charges of violating the COVID-19 regulations.

The magistrate ruled that the State had failed to prove its case beyond any reasonable doubt.

Mphisa and Marerwa were arrested on 15 May 2020 in Dulivhadzimu, in Zimbabwe’s southern border town of Beitbridge.

Kaizer Chiefs, Sundowns Meet In Explosive League Tie

Stadium

The question as to whether the ABSA Premiership trophy will have yellow or gold and black ribbons will be answered when log leaders Kaizer Chiefs host defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns at the Orlando Stadium this evening.

Masandawana coach Pitso Mosimane has downplayed the clash being the title decider but realistically, it is.

Three points separate the two giants heading into the encounter and a win for Sundowns will see them level on points with their title rivals while a triumph for Amakhosi will see them extend their lead at the summit of the table to six points heading into the final three games.

“Mathematically the title will not be won on Thursday but we would love to win on Thursday,” said Mosimane.

His Kaizer Chiefs counterpart Ernst Middendorp  refused to be drawn into what he labelled as ‘mind games’ ahead of the title-influencing battle.

“It’s a huge game. We respect each and everybody that’s part of the club. Core values – respect the other one. Do it in a right way‚ with the right focus,” he told reporters.

The German has to do without top-scorer Samir Nurkovic, who is suspended for the clash while Mosimane will be without Brazilian defender Ricardo Nascimento for the same reason.

Kick off is 18:00 on SuperSport 4.

Barcelona Block Messi Bid To Leave Camp Nou

Messi

Barcelona have reportedly turned down Lionel Messi’s request to exit the club for free based on a clause on the contract that allows him to leave at the end of the season.

The player informed the executive on Tuesday about his decision after growing frustrated with how things were happening at Nou Camp.

According to Marca, Barca have turned down the request, insisting that the clause in the contract expired on June 10 and that the player’s contract is now fully active.

This clause had to be activated before June 10, 20 days before the end of the usual footballing year, but there was delayed off-season due to the coronavirus-enforced pause in the campaign.

The Spanish outlet also claims that the club has informed Messi of the new developments and told him that they hope he can complete his career at the Camp Nou-Soccer 24

SA Side Offloads Gabriel Nyoni

Gabriel Nyoni

Zimbabwean winger Gabriel Nyoni is no longer on the books of ABSA Premiership side Maritzburg United, it has emerged.

The 27-year-old joined the Team of Choice from Harare giants CAPS United in July last year but his debut season in the South African top-flight has been hampened by injuries, which constantly kept him out of Eric Tinkler’s team.

His future at the Pietermaritzburg side has been uncertain for a while, with South African media reporting at some point that he was going to be shown the exit door.

Well-placed sources in South Africa have revealed  that the former Highlanders captain parted ways with Maritzburg before the ABSA Premiership returned from the Covid-19 enforced break.

Details of the separation are sketchy, so are those of his next destination-Soccer 24

Alec Mudimu’s UEFA Champions League Hopes Shattered

Alec Mudimu

Warriors defender Alec Mudimu’s UEFA Champions League dream for the 2020/21 season hit a brick wall last night when his Sheriff Tiraspol were eliminated by Azerbaijan side Qarabak FC.

The Moldovan champions succumbed to a 1-2 loss in the second qualifying round as Colombian striker Frank Castaneda’s second half strike proved to be just a consolation.

Mudimu, who moved to Sheriff from Welsh side Cefn Druids in  December, was not in coach Zoran Zekic’s side in Wednesday’s defeat presumably through injury.

They will now resume their Moldovan League title defence on the 11th of Semptember.-Soccer 24

Coronavirus: Always Maintain Required Physical Distance To Remain Safe

Coronavirus

Stay aware of the latest information on the COVID-19 outbreak, available on the WHO website and through your national and local public health authority. Many countries around the world have seen cases of COVID-19 and several have seen outbreaks.

The situation is unpredictable so check regularly for the latest news.

You can reduce your chances of being infected or spreading COVID-19 by taking some simple precautions:

Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.

Why?Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands.

Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.

Why? When someone coughs or sneezes they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person coughing has the disease.

Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth

Why? Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick.

Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.

Why? Droplets spread virus. By following good respiratory hygiene you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and COVID-19.

Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance. Follow the directions of your local health authority.

Why? National and local authorities will have the most up to date information on the situation in your area. Calling in advance will allow your health care provider to quickly direct you to the right health facility. This will also protect you and help prevent spread of viruses and other infections.

Keep up to date on the latest COVID-19 hotspots (cities or local areas where COVID-19 is spreading widely). If possible, avoid traveling to places – especially if you are an older person or have diabetes, heart or lung disease.

Why? You have a higher chance of catching COVID-19 in one of these areas.

ZINASU “Rejects” Online Exams

UZ

By ZINASU Secretary-General Tapiwanashe Chiriga

We have noted several notices and communiques from state institutions of higher learning to the effect that this semester’s examinations will be taken online using the google classroom platform.

We would like to register our deepest disapproval to this elitist move that is meant to disenfranchise the poor of us who happen to constitute the majority of the students’ community.

We object to online examinations and we would like to invite you to consider the following factors:

1. A lot of students simply do not have the gadgets to enable them to access the said google classrooms for purposes of examinations.

It would be a great injustice to deny them of their deserved right to sit for exams to end a semester they equally paid for, on account of poverty and a pandemic none of us invited.

2. As you are obviously aware, the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company has notified the entire nation of the decrease in power supply which will mean a lot of students will be affected by power cuts on examination day.

It would be sad if students will be made to fail by tragedies, not of their making.

3. Just as we cautioned against proceeding with online learning without providing students and lecturers with data bundles, we vehemently oppose and reject attempts to shut out the poor from examinations to end a semester they paid their all for, even beyond their capacity.

We believe it is within the capacity of your office to ensure that access to affordable education is not eroded simply by half-hearted attempts to save the calendar while excluding the majority of the students from the process.

We, therefore, ask that you direct institutions of higher learning to
1. Find means to allow students to physically finish their semester as did some classes before the reintroduction of the stricter lockdown at the end of July 2020.

2. Ensure that online learning platforms are accessible at a zero rate
3. Provide data bundles to students as per their promises in May for purposes of revision

4. Come up with an arrangement that allows students to access gadgets like tablets, phones and laptops through a loan facility that is payable over a long period of time.

We hope your office will treat this matter with the urgency it so deserves

“Sanctions Are Causing Incapacitation And Fuelling Corruption” – Do Tell, What Incapacitations Diamonds Looters Are Suffering

By Nomusa Garikai- ”There is a relationship between sanctions and corruption, whereupon due to incapacitation of Government or the private sector to provide competitive salaries in the region, workers end up engaging in acts of corruption to supplement what they get which is, however, unfortunate,” said Zanu PF acting spokesperson and former Minister of Finance, Patrick Chinamasa.

“The illegal sanctions have affected our economy and continuously affect the value of our currency and consequently our returns. Again, due to sanctions our institutions mandated to fight corruption have been incapacitated to investigate swiftly both local and external cases.”

Rubbish! Former Health Minister Obadiah Moyo and his associates including relatives of high ranking Zanu PF were involved in the US$60 million Drax Scandal are not poor by any stretch of the imagination.

When we talk of corruption, we are talking of the wholesale looting taking place in Marange and Chiadzwa and those benefiting are the Godfathers of corruption. The looting has been going on for decades and former Police Commissioner Augustine Chihuri is the only one who has been named. He is being asked to explain the source of his US$32 million fortune. Again, he is not poor!

Corruption was rampant before the sanctions were imposed. The EU has lifted all the sanctions imposed on Zanu PF leaders and corruption has not reduced but has, instead, continued to soar like a hunting eagle.

As long as Zanu PF remains in power, there is no hope of stamping out corruption because the party’s ruling elite are the Godfathers of corruption.

The only way out of the political and economic mess Zimbabwe finds itself in, is for the country to completely overhaul its rotten political system that has allowed the gross mismanagement, rampant corruption, rank lawlessness and 40 years of repeated rigged elections.

The country needs a new GNU that will be tasked to implemented the democratic reforms which the 2008 to 2013 GNU was supposed to implement but failed to implement even one token reform.

The new GNU will be identical to the 2008 to 2013 GNU except for one thing – both Zanu PF and MDC leaders will play no party in this new GNU. The two parties are an integral part of the rot, they cannot be trusted to reform themselves out of office as the events of the last GNU have shown.

After 40 years of blundering from pillar to post, what Zimbabwe needs is men and women with common sense and courage to admit our past mistakes and with the vision to boldly seek a better tomorrow! It will be insane and unforgivable to settle for yet another Zanu PF led GNU just to appease the country’s thieving ruling elite!

Patson Dzamara Was Perceived As “Enemy Of The Zanu PF Regime” -President Chamisa

Patson Dzamara

Farai Dziva|Patson Dzamara was viewed as an enemy of the Zanu PF regime and there is a possibility that he was harmed, President Nelson Chamisa has said.

The MDC Alliance leader has also revealed that during his tenure as a Cabinet Minister he never took food offered to him by the State for fear of being harmed.

President Chamisa made the remarks while addressing mourners at the Dzamara family home in Glen View on Thursday.

“For 5 years in cabinet, I didn’t even touch a cup of tea. Until Mugabe asked me:’ Who told you I practice witchcraft?” said President Chamisa.

President Mnangagwa, you need to attend to Political acumenship, legacy & perceptions !!!

By Tinashe Eric Muzamhindo- In 2013, the former Zimbabwe President, Robert Mugabe, upon his arrival at Harare International Airport, speaking to journalists, shortly after his arrival , he said in Shona , ” Nhai weduwe imi, tonzwa kuti mitengo yakwira mumashops, kwete, hatidi izvozvo, mangwana chaiye, ngaudzokere payanga iri”.
This was Robert Mugabe, those who knew him, and by the time, he arrived in town, with his Zim one, motorcade, most shops would be seen removing stickers, and reducing prices, putting new prices, and when Mugabe spoke, the whole nation knew it was serious business, he had none of it, and people would know that a Statesman has arrived.
Do you know, during Mugabe’s reign, if he called for a rally, someone would travel for a long distance, from Mutungagore, Mukamba, Chigora, to Rukweza, to see Mugabe, going back without eating anything, simply to go and see Mugabe.
Some would call it in Shona, I quote , ” Mugabe, airema”, meaning he had a lot of respect. After the event, in the evening, people would spend the whole evening discussing what Mugabe had said during the rally, and still continue, the following morning. That’s political acumenship. His Presidency was still carrying a lot of weight.
In 1994, Mugabe made a star rally appearance at Rukweza, in Nyazura, 211 km from Harare, along Dorowa road. Rukweza High school, is next to Dorowa – Murambinda Road. When all people had gathered there, it was an exciting moment, and even those who were herding cattle, refused to go , they wanted to witness Mugabe, the First Republican President of Zimbabwe.
I still remember very well, I refused to herd cattle, I insisted it was not my duty, because I wanted to see Robert Mugabe. Surprisingly, Mugabe came by road, and people were still waiting for him at the grounds, yet he was already at the stage. Everyone laughed, and he made stunning jokes, sharing lighter moment with villagers, the venue was fully packed, noone was driven to the rally, and it was day to remember, and diarised.
During Mugabe’s reign, everyone would remember all Cabinet Ministers, Defence you would know it is Moven Enoch Mahachi, Finance , Patrick Chinamasa, Education, Water and rural social amenities, Emmerson Mnangagwa, Information Minister, Prof Jonathan Moyo, Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Mbembegwi, and Minister without portfolio, Edson Zvobgo etc, and you would experience his Statesmanship, and his Presidency would carry a lot of weight.
To be quite honest, I only remember, two or three members in Mnangagwa’s Government, the daily appearence Minister of Information, Monica Mutsvangwa, Mthuli Ncube and who else by the way? , Perhaps, Kazembe Kazembe. No-one is interested to watch news.
Mr President, you need to re-organize your team, and set a new tone of weight and respect within your Statesmanship in the Government of the day. Noone is interested to watch ZTV anymore, the moment they see Monica Mutsvangwa after that very song, she is always briefing journalists on daily basis, perhaps, people have entered into campaign trail of succession battles, ahead of elective conventions or Congress, and positioning themselves for future roles.
Honestly, how can someone be on ZTV, on daily basis? Leadership, sometimes, you can use your juniors, I have never seen the Information Perm Secretary on ZTV, barely you would see Energy Mutodi, when he was on ZTV. I only saw Mutodi, on ZTV when he was distributing undergarments and COVID 19 resources to villagers.  Something is wrong in the Government, and honestly this must be corrected.
In Mash Central, in 2008, during the code – named campaign trail, ” VaMugabe mu office”, almost everyone had made a decision that the old man must retire from Presidency, it was high time, he should pass the button to someone else, perhaps the MDC Leader, Morgan Tsvangirai. During a live televised star rally, Mugabe would make jokes, even if you didn’t want to laugh, you were forced to laugh, and on your way home, people would discuss his speech, and this is what we call Presidency.
I never attended any single politburo meeting, one Former Zanu PF Minister whispered to me this other day, Mugabe would chair a Politburo meeting at Zanu PF Headquarters, and from 10 am to 1500 hrs, noone would even cough, or utter a word, and people when he made jokes in the meeting, people were left in stiches, and everyone was in agreement of what he said during his presentations. There would be silence in the meeting. When Mugabe, called for a meeting, noone would dare to abscond .
A fortnight ago, it was reportedly that Mnangagwa was explaining to the Politburo meeting why some members absconded, and it was shared that more than 7/10 members absconded, giving few excuses on why they decided not to attend the meeting.
I follow Zambian Presidency and news a lot, His Excellence Edgar Chagwa Lungu, who succeeded Michael Sata, the PF founder. I now see the reason why, Sata insisted that a private jet be send to Namibia to pick Lungu, who was on Government business, when Michael Sata, seriously fell ill. When Lungu arrived, Sata signed the instruments of power, and handed them over to Edgar Lungu. When Lungu speaks, Zambian listens. He doesn’t speaks always, and he is not on ZTV always, he may even take seven days to respond to any issue, sometimes he even delegates to his Ministers, and the Presidency is not vulnerable or exposed.
In 2018, during the Mashonaland Central rally in Bindura, when President Mnangagwa was addressing the rally, I saw videos of people running away from the rally, Zanu PF supporters, police wrestling with them, to allow the President to finish addressing first, before they allowed anyone to leave the venue. It was rare during Mugabe’s reign to witness such kind of barbaric behavior. We witnessed that kind of behavior, during his last days, when his wayward and motormouthed wife spoiled his legacy by interfering in Zanu PF internal politics. President Mnangagwa must reflect on what happened during Bindura rally, and his internal Advisors, and those surrounding him, must give him the Honest opinion, on why all this happening to him.
When Zim 1 motorcade was passing during Mugabe’s era, everyone would come outside, even from buildings, some would leave their cars open, just to witness Mugabe inside the vehicle, though it was tinted, citizens would have joy after having a glimpse of the convoy.
Few months ago, President Emmerson Mnangagwa addressed a rally in Kuwadzana, where he told residents that they must survive on Vegetables and potatoes, and he vehemently said ” Munofanira kudya muriwo nama potatoes”, and most residents, the few that had come, started walking away. Within minutes, I saw the statement circulating on social media, pumped with a lot of insults heeped on the incumbency. Why? I always ask myself this question, but why Mr President?
Mnangagwa must begin to reflect, and dump those around you, giving you wrong advise which make you expose yourself at crucial meetings.
I have to be frank and honest with you Mr President, you are slowly losing the grip. No- one listens to you anymore, even in public places. You listen to people’s comments in bars, on the street, at markets or shops, the citizens are openly attacking you from left, right and centre. Please, quickly reflect, and work on what went wrong from November 27, 2017.
You need to deal with perceptions, particularly those around you, doing propaganda and defending your views. The moment people see Monica Mutsvangwa and Nick Mangwana on ZTV , people switch to other channels, which makes it complicated for Government programs to be implemented faithfully. Why would someone be on ZTV on daily basis? What is the reason?
There are some things you have said since the beginning of your tenure, as President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, positive views, but the moment people see you on ZTV or on the program, they change their mind, and switch on to other issues. Reflect why. This is the question you must be dealing with.
You need to work on perceptions.
What are perceptions?
Perceptions – The ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses .
” The normal limits to human perception”
2. The way in which something is regarded , understood, or interpreted
3. Perceptions – Refer to the set of processes we use to make sense of the different stimuli, we’re presented with”
I want President Mnangagwa to take number one definition, and underline the phrase ” Ability”, and proceed to take note of three strong phrases:
1. See
2. Hear
3. Become
The above three words, combined with the word ” Ability”, will shape your legacy. It would be sad for you to have a sad departure, after your predecessor, left in a dramatic way from office. The reason why people restrained themselves on the former President, it is simply because there was a little semblance of respect on him, if it happens on you, it may be difficult, even your own people, or inner circle to restrain themselves on you.
Legacy is very important. You have children, who may still want to buy bread one-day, after your departure, how will they walk in public places?
What will be named after you ?

RBZ Announces Payment Dates For Outstanding Dues To Gold Miners

By A Correspondent- The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has announced that it will start next week to pay gold producers their outstanding amounts.

The announcement follows a meeting between the RBZ governor Dr John Mangudya and the Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) officials who expressed concern over the late payments.

ZMF president, Henrietta Rushwawa said the RBZ governor had apologised for the late payments.

She said:

We just came out of a meeting with the RBZ Governor and he has apologised and committed that outstanding FPR Bullion Payments will be done starting next week. Any inconvenience that has arisen out of this is sincerely regretted.

Let us continue sending our Bullion to Fidelity and if we experience payment challenges thereafter, kindly feel free to raise the alarm through our ZMF Secretariat for engagement with FPR/ RBZ.

Mining Zimbabwe reports that miners have been going for weeks without payments, a situation that resulted in some resorting to selling their gold on the parallel market.

In a move to curb gold leakages, the country’s only gold exporter, Fidelity Printers and Refineries recently announced that gold producers would be given 100 percent of their money in foreign currency.-MiningZimbabwe

Mr Brands Director Hauled To Court Over Fraud

By A Correspondent- A prominent Harare miller, Wayne Moss, the managing director of Mr Brands, and another local company director on Wednesday appeared before Mbare’s Magistrates Court facing fraud charges.

The state alleges Moss and his coaccused, and Kudakwashe Gambanga, approached a local businessman and told him that they were in urgent need of US$25 000 cash for payment of lobola.

They reportedly claimed that they had off-shore free funds in the United Kingdom resulting in the businessman giving them the money.

The state argued that before giving them the money, the businessman asked Moss to transfer the money to his United Arab Emirates account and provide proof of transfer.

Moss is said to have later emailed the businessman a fake proof of payment for the transfer of the money from a United Kingdom Metro Bank account into the businessman’s bank account.

The fake proof prompted the businessman to send US$25 000 to Moss’ account in batches of US$4 000 and US$21 000.

Unfortunately, the money which Mos said he had sent did not reflect in the businessman’s account prompting him to make a follow up with Moss.

The businessman was referred to Gambanga but still failed to recover his money and resolved to report the matter to the police.

Anglican Bishops Add Weight To Catholics Bishops Statement- Says Indeed “The March Is Not Ended”

By A Correspondent- Local Anglican bishops have thrown their weight behind their Catholic counterparts who were recently publicly chastised by President Emmerson Mnangagwa for highlighting human rights abuses in the country.

Government recently blasted local Catholic priests for releasing a hard-hitting pastoral letter outing the State’s heavy handedness on civilians.

In an equally strongly-worded pastoral letter dated August 24, 2020, the Anglican Council of Zimbabwe (ACZ) said the government should not threaten the church
for carrying out its spiritual duty of “speaking on behalf of God’s people” and calling political leaders to order when they deviate from the norm.

“We write this message to highlight our concerns and emphasise that indeed the ‘March is Not Ended’ unless and until the issues raised by the people of Zimbabwe and also echoed by the (Catholic) bishops are attended to and resolved holistically,” the Anglican bishops said.

The letter was signed by ACZ chairman Ignatios Makumbe of the Diocese of Central Zimbabwe, Godfrey Tawonezvi (Diocese of Masvingo), Cleophas Lunga (Diocese of Matabeleland), Erick Ruwona (Diocese of Manicaland) and Farai Mutamiri (Diocese of Harare).

“We wish to register our concerns to the several responses of the government which we feel were counter-productive to the efforts being made by many stakeholders including the church to unite the nation,” the letter read in part.

“ACZ notes with concern the several responses by the government of Zimbabwe to the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference which seem to dismiss the fact that the church is called to exercise its prophetic role, which can mean challenging our political leaders on their conduct of affairs, particularly if this affects the people of God.”

Mnangagwa last week told a Zanu-PF politburo meeting that the Catholic bishops had deviated from their mandate and dared them to join politics.

But government’s stance attracted backlash from regional and international Christian bodies which stood in solidarity with the Catholic priests.

“We make it abundantly clear that since time immemorial, the church in Zimbabwe has spoken against injustice and has been consistent in that regard. Any view or postulation to the contrary would be an attempt to rewrite that narrative in order to promote a negative picture of what the church stands for,” the Anglican leaders said.

They added: “The church has the biblical mandate to speak without fear or favour, particularly to a government which believes that ‘the voice of the people is the voice of God’.

“As Anglican bishops, we desire to see an engagement of all stakeholders (as requested by Zimbabwe Heads of Christian Denominations and respect of the Constitution of the land and institutions thereof for the good of our nation and (Proverbs 11:14); victory for the nation as we, together, overcome all our challenges.”

The Anglican priets also called on the government to stop arbitrary arrests of citizens and corruption that has flourished under Mnangagwa’s watch.

Zimbabwe is currently going through an unprecedented socio-economic and political crisis which has been exacerbated by gross human rights abuses and a collapsed health delivery system, but government insists there is no crisis.-newsday

Home Remedies For Mosquito Bites

Health

Cold temperatures slow the rate of inflammation.

Applying an ice pack to the area as soon after a bite as possible will reduce inflammation, itching, and discomfort.

Avoid putting ice directly on the skin, wrap it in a cloth or towel first.

Applying a topical antihistamine to a bite may help treat itching.

One study suggested that some antihistamines might be an effective treatment for mosquito bites.
Histamine is a chemical that the body releases as part of the inflammatory response to a mosquito bite.

It is histamine that causes itching, and antihistamines help to prevent histamine from taking effect.

People can take antihistamines in pill form, but other options include topical creams that a person can apply directly to the bite.

Hydrocortisone cream is a topical medication that can reduce inflammation and itching.

Hydrocortisone is available over the counter and on prescription but may not be suitable for everyone.

Children, pregnant women, or those with skin infections should not use hydrocortisone cream.

People should use these creams in moderation and only over short periods, or for as long as a doctor recommends in the case of prescription hydrocortisone.

Concentrated forms of heat might be useful for treating mosquito bites. One study from 2011 in Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology looked at the effectiveness of a device that emits concentrated heat. In most cases, the device was able to reduce the discomfort resulting from insect bites within 10 minutes of its application.

The study took place at beaches and bathing lakes in Germany. It is important to note, however, that of the 146 people in the study, only 33 had mosquito bites, with the majority having wasp stings.

There is some evidence that aloe vera can treat skin conditions, including
psoriasis. It has a wide range of potential uses and people usually apply the gel to the skin to relieve burns, frostbite , and
cold sores.

Some research on rats showed that Aloe littoralis, which is a close relative to aloe vera, might have anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties.

The scientists concluded that A. littoralis might help reduce the inflammation from mosquito bites and applying a gel may soothe the area, too.

Honey may have properties that make it useful for healing wounds .

Applying honey to a bite may help reduce inflammation and prevent infection, and in a similar way to aloe, applying it to the skin may also help soothe the area.

A person should see a doctor if a bite lasts longer than a week or shows signs of infection.
Sometimes, mosquito bites and other insect stings can cause allergic reactions. This can lead to an anaphylactic shock in extreme cases.

Anyone who experiences any of the following symptoms will require immediate medical attention:

breathing problems, swelling,
nausea,
vomiting,
dizziness.

It is also possible for mosquito bites to cause an infection.

If the bite lasts longer than a week or causes significant discomfort, consult a doctor.

Although it is difficult to avoid mosquito bites completely, people can reduce their chances of being bitten by:

using insect repellent
covering exposed skin as much as possible
using mosquito nets at night
installing mosquito screens on windows and doors
being aware of visiting places with a high density of mosquitoes or other insects
Avoiding all mosquito bites can be difficult.

However, home remedies can help reduce itchiness or irritation and provide comfort until a bite fully heals.

I Never Touched Even A Cup Of Tea For Five Years In Cabinet – President Chamisa

President Chamisa

Chamisa Says He Never Touched A Cup Of Tea In Cabinet For Fear Of Being Poisoned

MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has confirmed theories of food poisoning against perceived enemies of state saying during his time as a cabinet minister he never consumed food offered by the state for fear of being harmed.

Addressing mourners at the Dzamara family home in Glen View today, Chamisa says the compative activist was marked as an enemy of the state and may have been harmed.

Chamisa also spoke about his time in government and how he never ate food offered during cabinet meetings.

“Zim Crisis Is Fake News Peddled By Detractors”: Chinamasa

By A Correspondent- The ruling ZANU PF party has accused civic rights groups, the United States of America, the opposition MDC and “ghost” social media accounts of spreading “fake news” claiming that there is a crisis in Zimbabwe.

ZANU PF acting spokesperson Patrick Chinamasa on Tuesday told reporters that sections of the local media have also been recruited to spread “malice” about the country.

Chinamasa challenged foreign countries to seek clarity on what is happening in Zimbabwe from the government instead of relying on “faceless” organisations. Chinamasa said.

We have noted the desire to present Zimbabwe as being in a crisis that is sponsored by civic rights groups working with the US and its allies to spread malicious fake news that Zimbabwe is in a crisis of human rights violations.

Working with the MDC and ghost social media accounts and trolls created by one person, these groups are taking every opportunity they get to spread lies against the situation in our country.

They also have recruited some sections of the local media to spread the malice, some who we know are paid to do that.

While we reiterate that there is no crisis in Zimbabwe, we call upon concerned countries to seek clarity from the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Information Ministry or ourselves or visit Zimbabwe and experience the beauty, love, unity, peace and stability of our nation rather than relying on faceless organisations like Tajamuka.

Just In: Madhuku Joins Ngarivhume Legal Team

By A Correspondent| Top constitutional lawyer Professor Lovemore Madhuku has joined the legal team representing incarcerated opposition leader Jacob Ngarivhume.

Madhuku was spotted at the High Court today where Ngarivhume’s bail appeal was set for hearing before the state requested for more time.

The National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) leader has crossed path with the bigger opposition MDC Alliance following his decision to join the President Emmerson Mnangagwa initiated Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) which appeared to be an endorsement of the Zanu PF leader who is accused of rigging the 2018 presidential elections.

Madhuku’s coming on board raises hope for Ngarivhume who has had three bail applications thrown away by the Harare Magistrates and High Court.

Ngarivhume was arrested on the 20th of July and charged with inciting public violence after he posted on his Twitter account mobilising Zimbabweans to protest against worsening corruption levels in the country.

He together with journalist Jacob Ngarivhume have clocked 39 days in detention.

“It’s A Fine Line If Crossed Turns Yesterday’s Liberators Into Today’s Oppressors”

By Nomusa Garikai- Let me say from the on set that I totally subscribe to the notion of freedom of expression but in exercising one’s freedoms and rights one must always be careful not to step trade on other people’s freedoms and rights.

A fine line which, if crossed, turns yesterday’s liberator into today’s oppressor. Some people are making a habit of criss-crossing the line willy nilly.

“As MLF (Mthwakazi Liberation Front), we would like to warn Jenni (Williams) that, whether she is into the so-called Gukurahundi Resolution chamber through bedroom relations with Mnangagwa or she received bribes from Zanu, she should always bear in mind where this will all end,” said a statement from MLF.

“She must start considering a residential shift from Mthwakazi to Zimbabwe. If she wants to stay in Mthwakazi, we advise her to keep away from the gukurahundi issue because we cannot sit and watch her and her Matabeleland Collectives, a Zanu project, striving to let the perpetrators of the killings of our people walk scot free.

“For starters, Jenni is unqualified to sit in the resolution chamber, representing Mthwakazi people on basis that she knows nothing about the pain that Mthwakazi went through during the Gukurahundi era and the pain that she still reels in today.”

This is the threatening and posturing the people of Zimbabwe have heard these last 40 years from Mugabe and now Mnangagwa and the rest of the Zanu PF thugs. Anyone who dares say anything critical of Zimbabwe much less Zanu PF is labelled a traitor and a puppet and is subjected to all manner of harassment, physical abuse and many have even been murdered in cold blood.

MLF leaders have clearly learned the threatening and posturing from Zanu PF. Only MLF members know best on what to say and do on such matters as Gukurahundi and everyone else must be as silent as a grave! Dreads to think what would happen to Ms Jenni Williams and the rest of the Matabeleland Collectives members if MLF thugs had power and opportunity to act on their threats as Mugabe and Zanu PF have enjoyed all these years. Yet another massacre!

The root cause of the Gukurahundi massacre was Mugabe’s political intolerance and desire to dominate others. The same forces are at play here  MLF or be it the party has them cloaked as a burning desire for justice the Gukurahundi massacre! Mugabe had his desires disguised as drive for unity and development.

MLF members have turned a Mugabe and Zanu PF Gukurahundi crime into a crime where all the Shona are guilty, benefited and must now face retribution. Other than the consequences of the massacre itself, everyone in Zimbabwe across the board has suffered from the 40 years of Zanu PF corrupt and tyrannical rule.

After 40 years of Zanu PF blood shed, oppression, corruption, economic chaos and God knows what else besides, the people of Zimbabwe are yarning for peace, order and economic progress. But that is clearly not want MLF members want from the growing tempo of their sabre rattling!

The same intolerance and burning desire to dominate and deny others their freedoms and rights led to the Gukurahundi massacre. We do not want to be dragged into yet another senseless conflict for the same foolish reasons!

Zanu Pf Says Pastoral Letter Was Written By Chamisa, Biti

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF acting spokesperson Patrick Chinamasa has claimed that the Pastoral Letter issued by the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference (ZCBC) on 14 August was written by MDC Alliance leaders Nelson Chamisa and Tendai Biti.

Addressing journalists at the party’s headquarters in Harare on Tuesday, Chinamasa said the hard-hitting letter released by Catholic Bishops could only have been written by Chamisa and Biti.

Said Chinamasa:

We dismiss these allegations with the contempt they deserve, not only as baseless but pandering to the demands of the MDCs.

The language was clearly tilted. In fact, you would say that the language seemed to have been written by Chamisa or Biti, most likely Biti.

We are saying to the bishops, before you speak, please ask for dialogue with our President. We are open to any dialogue on any issue that affects Zimbabweans, that affects their lives.

We will not allow any tendencies that precipitate us to violent situations or which give encouragement to noises that want to precipitate violent outcomes for our country.

In their pastoral letter, the Catholic bishops called on the government to order over human rights violations and corruption.

The government immediately responded by calling the bishops “genocidal”, “evil-minded” and a “self-righteous Ndebele minority”.

Mwonzora Quashes Reports Of Internal Fights

26 August 2020

INTERNAL MEMORANDUM

FROM: Secretary General

TO: All National Council, National, Provincial, District and Ward Executive

Members

RE: RECALLS AND HEALTH OF THE PARTY

There has been a lot of mainstream and social media reports suggesting that there is infighting in the leadership especially between the Acting President and the Secretary General. These reports are just false and malicious. They are calculated to sow seeds of disharmony within the Party. There is absolutely no problem between the Acting President Dr Khupe and the Secretary General Senator Douglas Mwonzora.
Further, there are reports suggesting that the recalls of Members of Parliament and some councilors were a unilateral act on the part of the Secretary General. Again, these reports are totally false. The hierarchy of authority within our party is very clear. We have the Acting President as our highest ranking executive, clothed with full authority in terms of the constitution, while the Secretary General’s duties are also well delineated.

Our procedure before any person can be recalled from Parliament or Council, again is very clear. Concerned wards, districts and provinces make their recommendations to national leadership in writing. Then leadership debates each name and the reasons given. If national leadership agrees with the recall, it then instructs the Secretary General to effect the recall. The Secretary General does this by notifying the appropriate authorities in writing.
Regarding the recent recalls of the Harare Mayor and the other councilors, this recommendation came in writing from Harare Province. It was fully debated in the Standing Committee on more than one occasion before a resolution was arrived at. At the end of the deliberations, the Secretary General was instructed to effect the recalls which he proceeded to do in writing within the deadline provided. This was so whether or not the Secretary General personally favors that decision. It was a collective decision. It is wrong therefore, to suggest that this was a unilateral decision. That is why the Standing Committee has not varied it to date despite meeting last week. All the people who were recalled were recalled on the basis that they had ceased to be members of the MDC-T in terms of clause 5.10.a. of the constitution of the Party. The minutes of all deliberations leading to the recalls are available for scrutiny by party members.

The false reports are calculated to simply de-brand certain leaders. We must all remain vigilant as we continue with our efforts to build the people’s movement.
Victory is Certain

JUST IN: Bail Hearing For Ngarivhume Set For Tomorrow

The High Court will tomorrow preside over a bail hearing for incarcerated 31 July protests coordinator Jacob Ngarivhume after the state requested for more time to respond to heads of arguments filed by his defense team which has now been joined by top constitutional lawyer Professor Lovemore Madhuku.

The matter had initially been scheduled for today.

Ngarivhume is making his fourth bid for freedom after he was arrested on the 20th of July and charged with inciting public violence.

Meanwhile, the Harare Magistrates Court is currently presiding over MDC Alliance vice Chairperson Job Sikhala’s bail application after his appeal against placement on remand was thrown away.

MLF Members Have Turned A Mugabe And Zanu PF Gukurahundi Crime Into A Tragedy Where All The Shona Are Guilty

The same intolerance and burning desire to dominate and deny others their freedoms and rights led to the Gukurahundi massacre. We do not want to be dragged into yet another senseless conflict for the same foolish reasons!

“There Is Beauty, Love, Unity, Peace And Stability In Our Nation”: Zanu Pf

“Pastoral Letter Was Penned By Chamisa, Biti”: Chinamasa

<div class=”2s6GYF87″>

The language was clearly tilted. In fact, you would say that the language seemed to have been written by Chamisa or Biti, most likely Biti.

</div>

Watch Nick Mangwana Outlining “Mnangagwa’s Achievements” In The Two Years In Office

Own Correspondent

Emmerson Mnangagwa

Yesterday, the 26th of August marked the 2nd Anniversary of Emmerson Mnangagwa’s substantive First Term since his inauguration in 2018.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Nick Mangwana has articulated what he calls Government achievements in the two years, in a two-minute video on Twitter.

Watch the video downloading below.

“The Voice Of The People Is The Boice Of God.” Anglican Church Bishops Warn Mnangagwa As They Back Catholic Bishops Position

The Anglican Church Bishops have come out in support of their Collegues in the Roman Catholic Church in blasting President Emmerson Mnangagwa’sgovernment over human rights abuses.

The Bishops echoed Mnangagwa’s statement that the voice of the people is the voice of God, warning him to listen to what the citizens are saying instead of arresting them.

Below is their full statement:

“Son of man, I have made you watchman to the house of Israel; therefore, hear the word at my mouth and give them warning from Me”. (Ezekiel 3:17)

The Anglican Council of Zimbabwe (ACZ) writes in solidarity to the pastoral letter issued on 14 August 2020 by the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference entitled “The March is Not Ended”.

ACZ notes with concern the several responses by the Government of Zimbabwe to the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference which seem to dismiss the fact that the Church is called to exercise its prophetic role, which can mean challenging our political leaders on their conduct of affairs, particularly if this affects the people of God.

We write this message to highlight our concerns and emphasize that “Indeed the “March is Not Ended”
unless and until the issues raised by the people of Zimbabwe and also echoed by the bishops are attended to and resolved holistically.

We wish to register our concerns to the several responses of the government which we feel were counterproductive to the efforts being made by many stakeholders including the Church to unite the nation.

We make it abundantly clear that since time immemorial, the Church in Zimbabwe has spoken against
injustice and has been consistent in that regard. Any view or postulation to the contrary would be an attempt to re-write that narrative in order to promote a negative picture of what the Church stands for. The Church has the Biblical mandate to speak without fear or favour, particularly to a government which believes that “The voice of the people is the voice of God.”

The prophetic ministry of the Church mandates it to speak for God and for His people as it is the ambassador of Christ and God is appealing through it. (2 Cor. 5:20).

As Anglican Bishops, we desire to see an engagement of all stakeholders (as requested by Zimbabwe Heads Of Christian Denominations (ZHOCD) and respect of the Constitution of the land and institutions thereof for the good of our nation and (Proverbs 11:14); victory for the nation as we, together, overcome all our challenges.

We also call upon the citizens of this our beautiful nation to remain calm, pray for peace and to work
towards all that promotes peace and the common good. We also call upon all Christians and other religions to pray for our leaders and the nation at large for peace, stability and prosperity. To our brothers and Roman Catholic Church in particular, we say we are holding you in our prayers and
May the Blessing of the Almighty God strengthen you and be with you now and forever.

Amen.

Ramaphosa Faces Tough Parliament Question And Answer Session Today

Correspondent

President Ramaphosa will find himself in the National Assembly’s hot seat today, as political opponents fire tough questions during a long-awaited question and answer session.

While Ramaphosa has welcomed initiatives aimed at exposing the rot of corruption and collusion between public officials and unscrupulous private sector stakeholders, the looting of funds intended for coronavirus relief efforts is a hot topic which is destined to dominate today’s parliamentary proceedings.

John Steenhuisen, leader of the official opposition party, the Democratic Alliance (DA), will be quizzing the president over official reports of corruption related to departments, provincial governments and public entities during the period of the National State of Disaster.

Kenneth Meshoe, leader of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), is also set to grill Ramaphosa over the Special Investigating Unit’s (SIU) mandate, progress and relation to the controversial ANC-led Ministerial Committee tasked with looking into coronavirus-related corruption.

On Wednesday evening, Ramaphosa welcomed the publication of “all COVID-19 related government expenditure” saying:

“By publishing these lists we have honoured our promise to the South African people. They enable proper scrutiny of the details of all companies who have received tenders for COVID-19 related services.”

The ATM, which has of late driven a social media campaign against foreign nationals working in South Africa, will ask a question in this regard.

The questions are:
ANC MP Jacqueline Mofokeng: “With reference to the work the government has done to address the scourge of gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide, the adoption of the National Strategic Plan and the work towards establishing the Council on GBV, (a) what is intended to be the composition of the Council on GBV and (b) will women from rural areas with different cultural, racial and class backgrounds be represented thereon?”

DA interim leader and leader of the opposition John Steenhuisen: “Whether he has received, as directed on and/or about 6 August 2020, the comprehensive report containing the full details of all tenders and contracts that have been awarded by each national department, provincial government and public entity during the period of the national state of disaster from the committee of ministers appointed by him to deal with allegations of corruption associated with the Republic’s response to the coronavirus pandemic; if not, by what date does he envisage to receive the report; if so, (a) on what date did he receive the report and (b) what are the main findings of the report?”

ACDP leader Kenneth Meshoe: “Whether the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) that was authorised by him to investigate any unlawful and/or improper conduct in the procurement of goods and services during the national state of disaster requested assistance from the Cabinet to provide the names of companies and the details of tenders and contracts that were awarded to national departments, provincial governments and/or public entities during the period of the national state of disaster; if not, what necessitated the appointment of a committee of six ministers, led by the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, to look into alleged corruption in the procurement of goods and services sourced for the purpose of containing and responding to the Covid-19 pandemic when the SIU is well able and resourced to do the work on their own; if so, whether the SIU has ever requested such assistance from the Cabinet before; if not, what is the position in this regard; if so, what are the relevant details?”

ANC MP Phoebe Abrahams: In light of the fact that the government has reached almost R3 trillion in debt exposure (a) what measures has the government put in place to ensure that it honours its commitments to finance debt repayments while at the same time maintaining expenditure on socio-economic rights (details furnished) and (b) how will government spending in the medium-term help to address the challenge of rising unemployment that deepens poverty and widens the challenge of inequality?

ATM MP Thandiswa Marawu: “In view of the many job losses in the formal employment market and the youth unemployment rate at just over 60%, what steps does he intend taking to (a) ensure that trading in the informal economy is reserved only for South Africans and (b) instruct the Department of Home Affairs and the Department of Employment and Labour to review all work permits given to non-South Africans for the purpose of revoking all permits issued for work that South Africans can do?”

ANC MP Sakhumzi Somyo: “In light of the fact that Covid-19 has exposed a great deal of maladministration within the state, particularly among public servants as well as officials that are conducting business with the state, what additional measures will he put in place to root out corruption within the public sector, especially where public servants and senior political leaders are involved by having consideration that it is within the context of restoring ethics in the public service?”

The Presidency on Wednesday in part answered Steenhuisen’s question in a statement, announcing the online publication of a list of all Covid-19 related government expenditure on National Treasury’s website.

“By publishing these lists we have honoured our promise to the South African people. They enable proper scrutiny of the details of all companies who have received tenders for Covid-19 related services,” Ramaphosa said, according to the statement.

Questions are allocated proportionally to parties represented in Parliament, with the smaller parties rotating.

Therefore, the EFF does not have a question on Thursday.

Its MPs, like all the other MPs, will have the opportunity to ask follow-up questions.

The virtual plenary is scheduled to start at 14:00.

Govt Pledges To Support All Civil Servants Who Fall Ill To Covid-19 At Work Until Fully Recovered

State Media

Civil servants who fall ill with Covid-19 while on duty will be fully looked after while they recover, even if there are complications that delay full recovery, with the Government now granting up to six months of sick leave on full-pay as well as paying all medical bills of front-line health staff.

Generally, civil servants are entitled to 90 days’ sick-leave on full salary if they are incapacitated by ill-health.

Although most people recover quickly from Covid-19, with the World Health Organisation’s latest protocols giving two weeks as the longest recovery period, there have been cases in other countries of people who, while no longer infectious, still suffer from complications and recurring symptoms, and this is a worry for front-line medical workers.

But, after realising the sacrifices and the risk associated with the frontline workers and essential services, the Government says over and above meeting their medical expenses, they will be given more time to recuperate if they need this.

Public Service Commission Secretary Ambassador Jonathan Wutawunashe, who announced the change, said the commission was looking at several adjustments to protect its workers.

“We have adjusted a lot of things to protect our workers, such as for how long can you be ill and still being paid a full salary. It has been adjusted from 90 days to 180 days. It is an adjustment of what is normal.

“There is normal coverage of the medical expenses for all civil servants, and we are also taking care of the medical expenses for frontline workers,” he said.

“We have said most Government workers should work from home. You will recall that we said 15 percent should report for their workplaces physically and that move is receiving huge support.

“But we realised that there is a need for more adjustments to cater for those who are going to work, risking their health and life to provide essential services to the people. As Government we are very grateful for the sacrifices and effort being put by our workers during this period,” said Ambassador Wutawunashe.

The negotiations are still continuing on a final agreement on improving civil servants’ terms of employment including their salaries and wages. Despite disruptions caused by Covid-19 restrictions, the Government is willing to conclude negotiations with unions representing civil servants over wages and other employment terms this month.

This follows President Mnangagwa’s authorisation of an interim salary increment and the US$75 a month Covid-19 relief allowances, paid outside the negotiations, to help civil servants while the details of a new package are being worked out. The pay rise and allowances were an interim relief measure pending the outcome of negotiations on employment packages.

Khupe To Execute Disciplinary Measures On Douglas Mwonzora For Recalling Harare Mayor Without Approval

Daily News

Douglas Mwonzora

MDC-T leader Thokozani Khupe is reportedly pushing for disciplinary action to be taken against the party’s secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora.

The Khupe faction is accusing Mwonzora of making decisions unilaterally and fomenting violence in the Supreme Court-recreated party.

Party insiders told the Daily News on Tuesday that the recent recall of Harare mayor Herbert Gomba and five other MDC Alliance councillors by Mwonzora angered other MDC-T bigwigs. The officials said:

The fact that standing committee members only got to know about the recall on social media did not go down well with everyone.

Khaliphani Phugeni (Khupe’s spokesperson) was very angry about this because what should have happened before the letter was written to these people was to bring the names recommended by the party structures to the national standing committee to go through them one by one, while also justifying why they should be recalled.

That did not happen and this was viewed as disrespect of the standing committee. It is a punishable offence to disrespect the standing committee.

Since the controversial Supreme Court ruling in March resurrected the MDC-T’s defunct 2014 structures, Khupe and Mwonzora have ganged up to decimate the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa by expelling from Parliament the party’s legislators.

Last week Khupe nominated herself, her spokesperson Khaliphani Phugeni and 13 other MDC-T members to replace Chamisa’s MPs who were expelled from Parliament for supporting the youthful leader.

Douglas Mwonzora Concedes That The MDC-T Is Now Operating Outside The Boundaries Of The Supreme Court Ruling

Pindula

Thokozani Khupe

Interim Secretary-General of the opposition MDC-T, Senator Douglas Mwonzora has said the Supreme Court was yet to grant the application for an extension of the party’s Extraordinary Congress.

Mwonzora was responding to a question by Alex Tawanda Magaisa a law lecturer in the United Kingdom and former Chief of Staff in the office of the former Prime Minister, the late Morgan Tsvangirai.

The party was stopped from holding the court-sanctioned congress on 31 July with authorities citing the coronavirus pandemic as the hurdle. Magaisa had asked:

Did the Supreme Court grant your party an extension to the 31 July deadline for the EC (Extraordinary Congress)? … Did you get an extension? It’s a yes or no answer.

In response, Mwonzora said:

The Supreme Court is yet to grant the application for an extension Doc.

The congress was premised at electing a replacement to the party’s founding leader, Morgan Tsvangirai who died in 2018.

Since his departure from the political arena, the party he founded has being submerged under a serious leadership crisis that has spilt into courts.

MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa and MDC-T interim president, Thokozani Khupe have been the main contenders for the presidential post.

Meanwhile, members of the MDC Alliance say they will not attend the congress as it has nothing to do with their party.

ZANU PF Eliminated Patson Dzamara – MDC Alliance Branch

MDC Alliance Namibia would like to send its condolences to the bereaved Dzamara family, MDC Alliance and all Social democrats in Zimbabwe for the unimaginable loss of the youthful, vibrant and ardent fighter Patson Dzamara.

As as a party, we were hypnotised upon receiving the devastating news that Dr Patson Dzamara our National Executive Member in the Mdc Alliance is no more. May his soul rest in power and let God bless his beloved family that has gone through a lot of horror and tragedy at the hands of satanic Zanupf morons.

We have lost a gallant fighter for socio-economic transformation. He fought so hard for his brother’s justice and was arbitrarily arrested and tortured including being injected with an unknown substance in 2016. Patson Dzamara confessed that the state security agents injected an unknown substance but the Zanupf denialists accused him of alarming and stage-managing his circumstances. These are the repercussions of the unknown substance. He was technically eliminated by Zanupf since he vowed to use all his organs to force the regime to bring back his brother Itai Dzamara who was abducted in broad daylight.

To quote him verbatim, he usually said, ‘ I will never be mute until Itai Dzamara is accounted for. I will never be silent until Zimbabwe is fixed from the Zanupf mess’. Patson Dzamara was determined and committed to confront corruption, looting, arbitrary arrests and abductions in Zimbabwe. He is the fourth person that social democrats know in the past two years who has been afflicted by some form of colon cancer including our Icon of Democracy the late Mdc Alliance leader Morgan Richard Tsvangirai, may his dear soul rest in power. The common denominator is that they were all political activists that have at one point been arrested, tortured and in some cases reporting being injected. These are the satanic repercussions of evil injections from Zanupf terrorists.

As Mdc Alliance Namibia, our message is that the deaths of ITAI AND PATSON DZAMARA shall continue to inspire all social democrats in the national democratic revolution. We will complete the fight against senseless and barefaced corruption. The people will win as usual. Thanks to all those who had been contributing to Fund our leader’s intended operation. May God bless you and your caring families. We shall forever put political and diplomatic pressure on the autocratic regime to respect people’s freedoms and livelihoods.

Job Sikhala To Remain In Prison Awaiting Trial

Own Correspondent

MDC Alliance National Vice Chairman Job Sikhala will remain in prison after Magistrate Ncube dismissed his application challenging refusal of remand. He says State succeeded in proving that there is reasonable suspicion that Hon. Sikhala committed an offence.

Sikhala is one of the latest arrested after being in hiding for weeks following police accusations that he was mobilising anti-government protests.

The latest arrests came as journalist Hopewell Chin’ono and opposition politician and government critic, Jacob Ngarivhume, were denied bail for a third time since being arrested for agitating for protests.

The demonstrations were banned because of Zimbabwe’s anti-coronavirus measures.

Ngarivhume, the leader of Transform Zimbabwe, and Chin’ono have been in jail since July 20 on charges of inciting public violence.

More than a dozen demonstrators who tried to protest, were detained from the streets. They were charged with inciting violence and then freed on bail.

Two Minors Killed In Horror Crash On Masvingo Beitbridge Road

State Media

Four people, including two minors, were killed yesterday when two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision eight kilometres outside Beitbridge town along the Masvingo-Harare Highway.

The accident occurred at around 7pm.

Those who died were in a Toyota Wish that was travelling towards Masvingo, while the majority of the injured were travelling in a Nissan Elgrand that was driving towards Beitbridge.

Police were by last night still conducting investigations and transporting the injured to Beitbridge Hospital.

Beitbridge District Civil Protection Unit representative who attended the scene, Mr Jahson Mugodzwa, said they were yet to get a full report from the police and health officials.

By late night emergency workers were still trying to retrieve the remains of a man and a woman that were trapped under thewreckage.

All the injured, who incurred mostly leg injuries, were admitted at Beitbridge District Hospital.

Notorious Thugs Moved To Harare In Heavy Support Unit Guard

State Media

The gang of eight most wanted suspected armed robbers, including the notorious Musa Taj Abdul (46) and their police officer host who were arrested in a major raid in Beitbridge on Monday, is now in Harare for further investigations.

A manhunt is in progress for four other suspects who managed to escape during the raid.

The eight arrested were moved to Harare under heavy Support Unit guard on Tuesday by CID Homicide.

An application was made to the Harare Magistrates Court for a warrant to hold the armed robbers a little longer for questioning at Harare Central Police Station.

Warrants of arrest for Abdul go back to 1999, with further warrants in 2005 and 2006.

He managed to elude all attempts to handcuff him until Monday. Others have warrants outstanding from 2018 and 2019.

Of the four who escaped when a Beitbridge house was raided, Abednigo Dhlamini and Elias Mpofu, alias Jabulani or Obasanjo, are believed to have crossed into South Africa, but Brian Murape and Carlington Marasha are suspected to be still in Zimbabwe.

The gang is suspected to have committed most of its robberies in Harare.

Police have been chasing Abdul for close to two decades, but his run came to an end on Monday when he was grabbed together with a fired former Masvingo Central police officer Rudolf Kanhanga alias Tapiwa Munatsi (29), Liberty Mupamhanga (29), Prince Makodza (31), Godfrey Mupamhanga (27), Charles Lundu (47) and Innocent Jairos (32).

A silver Noringo pistol with an obliterated serial number and a magazine with 11 rounds, 19×12 bore gauge live rounds in a webbing belt placed in a black satchel stashed in a washing basket, and a pair of number plates AEX 1577 were allegedly recovered from the suspects. A balaclava was found stashed in their getaway car.

The gang has been sought in connection with a number of armed robberies, including the Mashwede case in Harare recently.

Investigations will be looking at the chain of evidence that could tie the arrested men to the robberies, with any prosecutions having to show, beyond reasonable doubt, that those in custody are the ones who committed the suspected robberies.

Sources said Abdul, who was once convicted in 1995 for tampering with a motor vehicle, is also wanted for questioning in Botswana and South Africa over robberies in those countries, and Zimbabwean police will soon advise their counterparts.

It is believed the gang owns several properties in South Africa, bought through proceeds of criminal enterprise.

In one of the recent cases, members of the gang are suspected to have been the robbers who raided Trauma Centre in Borrowdale and stole a safe containing an undisclosed amount of cash and cellphones, using two rented cars in the robbery — a silver Toyota Fortuner and a Honda Fit.

The Fortuner, suspected to have been driven by Abdul (alias Musa Mahommed or Kedha), was rammed by a senior manager of the centre and was then dumped in Borrowdale, while the gang escaped in the Honda.

Investigations revealed that before raiding the medical facility, the robbers had first raided a house in Queensdale where they got away with cellphones and masks.

The arrested men are also suspected to be the gang that undertook a spate of armed robberies in Harare starting on December 20 last year when at around 3.30pm they allegedly pounced on Culdees Honye (33), Wilfred Motsi (51) and Cornelius Mutandwa at Wessec Sol Enterprises, pointed guns at Honye and ordered her to lie down before they grabbed Motsi, who was a customer making inquiries, searched him and took his Tecno Spark 4 and Samsung cellphones.

Honye then showed the robbers two safes containing US$14 000, $150 240 and R21 500.

The robbers took the two safes and loaded them into an Isuzu KB 240 single cab truck owned by Motsi.

The robbers then confronted a security guard with Fawcett Security, disarmed him of his service firearm and drove away in the stolen vehicle which was later found abandoned in the Arcturus area together with the two safes which had been forcibly opened.

The suspects are also thought to be the gang that broke into the house of Jealous Chuma 10 days later at 11pm. While inside, the robbers assaulted Chuma with logs and shovels demanding cash and valuables and after ransacking the house stole a 20 litre bucket containing $25 000, US$900 and R800, which was in a cashbox inside the bedroom and vanished with it.

A third robbery thought to have been committed by the gang took place on February 5 this year when robbers pounced on Jairos Jeke (33) and his brother, Simbisai (30) at Makoni Shopping Centre at around 2pm.

Upon arrival in a car, they fired several shots into the air from their pistols and an AK47 rifle before confronting the victims, whom they assaulted with metal bars demanding cash and valuables.

One of the robbers, who was brandishing an iron bar, broke Jairos’ motor vehicle windows and ordered him to surrender his firearm and then searched Simbisai’s motor vehicle and took a bag, which had $37 000 and a Samsung S9.

They allegedly barged into Jairos’ car and drove off at high speed following their getaway vehicle towards Dema.

In Jairos’ vehicle, the robbers took US$7 000 and two small Nokia cellphones. The total amount stolen was US$12 000 and $37 000, and nothing was recovered.

In a fourth case in which the arrested men are suspected of being involved, robbers pounced on Rodney Dangarembizi (40), Dumisani Moses Dube, Tinashe Masango (28), Faith Nyambirai (27) and Betty Chitando (22) on 26 February at around 7.50am, confronted Dangarembizi, who was standing beside his vehicle in the garage at home, assaulted him with open hands demanding cash and valuables, before taking US$3 000 from his pockets.

The robbers demanded more cash and force-marched Dangarembizi into his main house which they combed and stole US$37 000 cash, jewellery, several pairs of shoes, an Apple laptop and car keys which were in his bedroom.

They went on to open a gun cabinet where they stole a 9mm Star pistol and 120 rounds of ammunition, a Samsung AZ core and a Huawei Nova 4.

Dangarembizi was force-marched at gunpoint to his garage where the robbers ordered him into his Honda Fit. One robber took charge of a white Hyundai belonging to the businessman, and demanded to know the whereabouts of Mr Tawanda Nyambirai, the owner of the TN Holdings premises next to Dangarembizi’s home.

Dangarembizi led the gang to the TN Holdings premises where they confronted other complainants. The gang searched Dumisani Dube and stole US$250, an HP laptop and his Samsung J1.

The robbers demanded to be taken to the offices of the company’s CEO and the location of his safe.

Dube led the robbers to the CEO’s offices on the second floor, where they forced open the door and stole a Chubb safe with US$180 000 cash and an Acer laptop.

The robbers loaded the safe into the Hyundai stolen from Dangarembizi and drove away.

They later dumped the two stolen vehicles at the Mazowe Citrus kiosk along Harare-Bindura road. Dangarembizi lost US$227 250, R28 000 and two motor vehicles valued at US$10 000.

In South Africa, Abdul is thought to have been arrested several times but released with the help of his police connections.

There Is No Crisis In Zimbabwe, Crisis Is In The MDC Mugwadi Tells SABC

State Media

ZANU-PF director for Information and Publicity Tafadzwa Mugwadi yesterday said the only noticeable crisis in the country was the one in opposition political parties that were haggling over leadership and were suffering from serious policy bankruptcy.

Speaking on a live SABC programme, African Perspective, Mugwadi said the challenges being faced in the country did not amount to a crisis.

He said besides being hamstrung by economic sanctions imposed by the European Union (EU) and the United States (US) for over a decade, Zimbabwe had managed to institute measures to mitigate the devastating effects of Covid-19.

The high number of recoveries indicated the effectiveness of measures being implemented by Government.

Mugwadi said opposition parties were resorting to blackmail by manufacturing spurious allegations of human rights abuses.

“There is no crisis in Zimbabwe. What we have seen as a crisis is that which is happening in opposition groups, some of which have become leaderless. We do have a crisis as a nation, we have challenges with Covid-19 just like any society across the world and we are on course to addressing that,” said Mugwadi.

Responding to allegations of abductions raised by MDC Alliance secretary for international affairs, Gladys Hlatshwayo, Mugwadi said any such cases must be reported to the police.

He gave the example of a Hurungwe MDC-A councillor, Lavender Chiwaya, whom the opposition claimed was killed by State agents saying the allegations have since been proven false.

Mugwadi said police had issued a statement ruling out foul play in the death of Chiwaya.

Douglas Mwonzora Apologises For His Gukurahundi Utterances

MDC-T interim Secretary General, Senator Douglas Mwonzora has said the 1980s massacres that were carried out by the 5th Brigade in Matebeleland and Midlands which are popularly known as Gukurahundi, were actually a genocide.

He also speaks after President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently met stakeholders from Matebeleland in an endeavour to address the issue that has lingered for years now.

Mwonzora speaks after a recent Facebook post in his name had teermed the massacres a civil war. Below is Mwonzora’s statement:

CLARIFICATION ON GUKURAHUNDI Press statement 26.08.20

A recent Facebook post in my name loosely referred to the Gukurahundi genocide in a way that was open to various interpretations, including that it was a “civil war” where both the perpetrators and the victims could be viewed to have had an equal responsibility.

The casually worded post was interpreted by some to suggest that the actions of the government of the day was justified.

I wish to set the record straight in line with my publicly stated view, that Gukurahundi was in itself a genocide which targeted ethnically and culturally distinct communities for indiscriminate mass killings in order to achieve political goals. More than 20 000 such innocent victims in Matebeleland and Midlands lost their lives between 1983 and 1987. a dark period of our history which only ended with the Unity Accord of December 1987.

Whilst the loose wording of the post was unintentional and a genuine blind spot. I most heartily and unreservedly apologise for the insensitivity and inaccuracy of the same, seeing that it caused anguish and pain to some people.

May I also take this opportunity to reiterate the position I have articulated in my previous posts and interviews that the Gukurahundi genocide victims have to be compensated as pan of post conflict restorative justice which must include truth telling and reconciliation.

Ngiyaxolisa kakhulu ngembanxa zolimi ezidunge imibono yami ngombhuttazwe we Gukurahundi.

Mayuyu mahlabezulu, ayilume ikhafule.

KAIZER Chiefs will grind with everything they have for a second huge Absa Premiership victory against Mamelodi Sundowns in the 2019-20 season’s title race‚ Amakhosi midfielder Willard Katsande has said.

With the gap having been painstakingly whittled down to three points by second-placed defending champions Sundowns‚ Chiefs know that they can relinquish their advantage in the championship battle in the clash at Orlando Stadium on this evening
Given 2016 Caf Champions League winners Downs’ trophy-clinching experience‚ and Chiefs having not won silverware in the past four seasons‚ a betting man might be inclined to put their money on the Brazilians from the current situation.

Chiefs‚ ninth-placed finishers in 2019-20‚ also were not given much hope of a victory in the corresponding away fixture in October‚ when a 2-0 win to Amakhosi signalled the Soweto giants would challenge for the title in their 50th anniversary season.

“When we played them in the first round people never gave us a chance‚” Katsande said in a pre-match online press conference.

“And we knew what we wanted and we knew that if we applied the tactics that the coach told us we were going to come out victorious‚ and we would have been good visitors at the capital city.
“Going into this match‚ we know what’s at stake.

We just want to try to improve‚ keep going forward‚ keep on doing well.
“Because we started this journey when everyone was not even giving us a chance as we were coming from a bad season not even finishing in the top eight.

“So we just need to approach this match with respect to our opposition. At the same time that we are calm‚ we are very aggressive.

“We know what’s at stake. We are still in control. It’s up to us what we are going to dish in this match.-The Herald

Schoolboy Hangs Self

A 17-YEAR-OLD boy from Nkayi in Matabeleland North allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree at Mafela Primary School in Bulawayo’s Nkulumane suburb.

Mpilo Khumalo’s body was discovered by residents who alerted authorities.

He was a Form Three pupil at Nesigwe Secondary School in Nkayi.

Mpilo, who is said to have been suffering from mental illness, had visited his relatives who stay in Nkulumane suburb soon after Government imposed a national lockdown in April.

When a Chronicle news crew visited the site of the incident, police had just removed the body from the school in the presence of his relatives and local councillor Rodney Jele.
It is not clear how he managed to access the school but his brother said when they woke up on Tuesday morning he was not at home.

His brother, Xolani, said in the past few days Mpilo seemed distraught, stating that he wanted to return to his rural home in Madliwa Village under Chief Madliwa.

“He was staying with my sister in Nkulumane 12 but yesterday he came to where we stay in Nkulumane 5.

He slept over when we woke up today, he was not home. We started looking for him and failed to find him.
Later on, we learnt that someone had committed suicide at Mafela Primary School and I discovered that it was my brother,” said Xolani.

He said while he did not expect him to end his life, he seemed troubled.

“On Monday he was not chatting with anyone; he was just quiet and would only respond when asked something.

He wanted to return to our rural home having been in Bulawayo since the start of the national lockdown.

He came here to seek medical treatment for mental illness and he had seemed to be doing very well but it’s unfortunate this has happened,” he said.
Clr Jele said it was saddening that a young life had been lost.

“This is very tragic and what makes it even more tragic is that this happened at a school premises.

We urge residents to monitor the activities of their children, especially those with special needs. There should be a clear communication channel which can avert such incidents,” said Clr Jele.-Chronicle

Shock As Man Stabs Married Lover To Death

Knife

Police in Bindura have arrested a 32-year-old Mvurwi man suspected of stabbing to death his neighbour’s eight-month pregnant wife whom he was allegedly having an affair with.

Fidelis Chido of Gallowway Farm in Mvurwi was arrested in Kanyemba after he went on the run on August 19.

Acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Fidelis Dhewu said Chido was assisting the police with investigations.

The deceased is Sharon John (33).
Asst Insp Dhewu said allegations are that on August 9, this year at around 7am, John’s husband Joseph Farau (39), who is a cattle herder at a farm in the area, went to work leaving his pregnant wife at home.

About 40 minutes later, Chido — whose affair with John was well-known — was seen walking towards the house.

A few minutes later he was seen by a neighbour — Innocent Muganhu (38) — bolting from the house, holding a blood-stained object while his clothes had blood on them.

“Muganhu alerted other neighbours who gave chase, but failed to apprehend him.

One of the neighbours Gerald Bvunza (30) went inside the house and found the deceased lying in a pool of blood,” he said.
A report was made at Mvurwi Police Station and police attended the scene.

The deceased had a deep cut on the neck suspected to have been caused by a sharp object and the body was taken to Mvurwi Hospital mortuary.
Chido was arrested on August 25 at Kanyemba Village.

Recently, a 38-year-old Concession man killed his wife over infidelity accusations, locked doors and windows of their house before committing suicide.
Their bodies were found six days later.

The wife, Christine Gwedeza (35) was found lying in a pool of blood with head injuries and a swollen face while the husband Tinashe Mbasi (38) had no visible injuries.
The police did not find any weapons or poisonous substance in the house.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Mbasi assaulted his wife and later committed suicide.

A suicide note written by Mbasi was found in the house at number 638 Housewood in Concession and it indicated that the couple had fought over Gwedeza’s alleged infidelity.

The couple was heard quarrelling at around 8pm by their co-tenant Dadirai Nyandoro.-The Herald

Passport Fees Too Expensive: Zimbabweans In SA

Government has been asked to review passport application fees downward by Zimbabweans in South Africa.

The Zimbabwe Community in South Africa’s (ZimComSA) spokesperson, Mr Bongani Mazwi Mkwananzi said they “call on the Government to reduce the passport fees in solidarity with the working people who are under global lockdown following the outbreak of Covid-19,” he said.

He said Government could reduce the passport fee by at least 50 percent and still recoup production costs.

Mkwananzi said they had put forward a request to the Zimbabwe Consulate for them to courier passport application forms to Harare for passport processing given the current lockdown conditions.

The Consul General, he said has since informed them that engagements were underway with the Register General and other Government departments.

“We understand that talks are ongoing to see how this process can be done.”

Mr Mkwananzi said many people in the Diaspora were unable to travel to Zimbabwe to submit passport application forms, making it difficult for them to renew their passports before they expire.

He said they had proposed that the passport fees be paid at the Consulate, including courier fees by applicants.

“We hope that this discussion will be concluded soon so that our members will not have to bear the burden of sending on their passport forms via their relatives for submission at the passport office in Zimbabwe,” said Mkwananzi.

He advised those with expiring passports to use the Consulate booking process as recently announced. -Herald

MDC Alliance Statement On Death Of Patson Dzamara

26 AUGUST 2020

MDC ALLIANCE NAMIBIA CONDEMNS ZANUPF ON THE UNTIMELY DEATH OF PATSON DZAMARA.

COVID-19: Prevention Tips That Will Save Your Life

Ingutsheni Central Hospital clinical director Dr Wellington Ranga said it was difficult to point out what could have led to the suspected suicide case.
He said in most incidents there was no link between mental illnesses and suicide cases. Dr Ranga observed that depression could trigger suicide among mental patients and the general members of the public.

“For some people suicide has been seen as a way out from difficult situations which might not be the answer. I will urge for a strong support system for those with depression and creation of clear communication channels so that those with mental illnesses do not see suicide as a way to address problems,” said Dr Ranga. -Chronicle

Chinamasa Claims Biti Wrote Pastoral Letter On Behalf Of Catholic Bishops

Tendai Biti

Farai Dziva|Jittery acting Zanu PF spokesperson, Patrick Chinamasa has accused MDC Alliance leaders Advocate Nelson Chamisa and Tendai Biti of “authoring” the Catholic Bishops letter.

Chinamasa, quoted by NewsDay claimed that the Pastoral Letter issued by the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference (ZCBC) on 14 August was written by MDC Alliance leaders Advocate Nelson Chamisa and Tendai Biti.

Said Chinamasa :

We dismiss these allegations with the contempt they deserve, not only as baseless but pandering to the demands of the MDCs.
The language was clearly tilted.

In fact, you would say that the language seemed to have been written by Chamisa or Biti, most likely Biti.

We are saying to the bishops, before you speak, please ask for dialogue with our President.

We are open to any dialogue on any issue that affects Zimbabweans, that affects their lives.

We will not allow any tendencies that precipitate us to violent situations or which give encouragement to noises that want to precipitate violent outcomes for our country.

Jittery Chinamasa Accuses Opposition, NGOs Of “Bashing” Own Country

Patrick Chinamasa

Farai Dziva|Acting Zanu PF spokesperson, Patrick Chinamasa has claimed Zanu PF detractors are “desperate to portray Zimbabwe as a nation facing a serious crisis.”

Chinamasa made the remarks in the capital, Harare on Tuesday.

Zanu PF is persecuting its perceived opponents and several human rights activists and opposition members have been arrested.

Said Chinamasa :

Mmusi Maimane Says Current Arrests By ZANU PF Govt Typical Of Arrests On Dumiso Dabengwa And Lookout Masuku

Dumiso Dabengwa

Mmusi Maimane, the former leader of the Democratic Alliance, an opposition party in South Africa has said the recent arrest of government critics in Zimbabwe reminds of the late Dumiso Dabengwa and General Lookout Masuku whom he said were wrongfully detained in the early 1980s by the Zanu PF regime.

He speaks when a number of government critics including journalist Hopewell Chin’ono and opposition leader Jacob Ngarivhume were arrested and detained for encouraging the public to participate in anti-government protests. Maimane added:

We have seen this tactic. To report on corruption, on upcoming protests, to personally express disgust at corruption, none of these are acts of treason in a free country.

He urged the president of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa who is also the current chair of the African Union to do more to address the Zimbabwe governance and human rights crisis. Maimane said:

… we truly need a better action from you (Ramaphosa) than the envoy which was not even afforded a chance to speak to other critical role players from the opposition and civil society. As SA we carry the cost.

Opposition MDC Alliance and some members of the diplomatic call believe that the state is sponsoring the abuse of human rights in the country.

ED’s Human Rights Record As The President Of Zimbabwe Under Scrutiny

By Masimba Mavaza and Amanda Mavhaza | Zimbabweans dotted through out the world woke up on the morning of 14th January 2019 not feeling particularly patriotic. Tired of long queues, runaway prices very grumpy not patriotic anymore. Very few people begin their day with a reaffirmation of their undying love for country. But those who are not in Zimbabwe start with looking for faults. There is a general insulting belief in the West that Zimbabweans are not capable of governing themselves. A full Member of parliament in England called to recolonise Zimbabwe. Surprisingly some Zimbabweans led by their ever destructive opposition members screamed in agreement.

But on that day, the 14th of January 2019 people stormed the buildings, streets and any thing moving in Zimbabwean towns. We will never forget it; we were glued to our screens, and phones watching in shock and sadness as the chaos unfolded. Thousands of Zimbabweans across the world felt it viscerally, as if it were an attack on their very selves. Some would even venture to say that we felt patriotic as a citizenship that day – a concept often described as anathema to polite Zimbabwean society, especially as it recasts itself in agreement to the virulent, incandescent nationalism that is characterizing our modern moment.

So the calling of a demonstration on the 31st July 2020 brought back the ugly memories of 2019. Zimbabwe needed protection from the vandals and making it even worse calling for a huge gathering during COVID 19 was in itself selfish and mischievous.

Zimbabwe needed a leader who will arise above the hooliganism which was being created by the activist who were simply doing it for their own pockets and not for the nation.

However, from a vantage point as Zimbabweans we can see that since ED came into power through a common popular uprising Zimbabweans do the concept of democracy a disservice when they conflate it with peaceful demonstrations. There was no peace neither was there patriotism in the actions of those who invaded the generally peace loving society of Zimbabwe. We should remember that patriotism is about loving your country and tends to be iterative over time; nationalism is about expressing the superiority of your country over another’s, a snapshot that ossifies national identity into something absolute.

Instead, we ought think of patriotism as duty to community and to country, as one of the most potent forces driving justice and progress in an increasingly divisive time and as a tool for empowering citizens by generating a more inclusive definition of patriotism. Zimbabwe must not look up to the West in seeking to topple your own government. Remember there are those who are always looking for wrong things about Zimbabwe.

The behaviour of most of those who wants a demonstration is treasonous unpatriotic and indeed subversive and an open act of terrorism.
To love your country is to want it to be better. To truly love a country is to say that we as educated citizens cannot and will not accept an erasure of the past nor an apathy of the present. But those who couch their hatred in the language of obligation to the state miss what exactly it means to be an engaged citizenry, what it means to critically question and protest in pursuit of a more just society.
Those who engage in subversive actions are the first ones to run abroad to get and spread bad publicity of the country.

“We must as Trump said reject the ideology of globalism and accept the doctrine of patriotism. We only have one country we can call ours in the whole world. This country is called Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe is a sovereign one, and every nation is on its own.
The Discussion about Zimbabwe in America by secretary Pompeo were He expressed disgust with the way Zimbabwe handled and pacified a lawless situation which was brought about by the perpetrators of violence masquerading as journalists showed that America is not sincere in the reengagement activities Zimbabwe is trying to bring.

Zimbabwe is governed by Zimbabweans and the way it maintains peace must not be measured by the events of one day.

Together, Zimbabweans must choose a future of patriotism, prosperity, and pride. Zimbabwe must choose peace and freedom over domination and defeat. All Zimbabweans all over the world must stand for our country and its citizens we must be forever strong, forever sovereign, forever just, and forever thankful for the sacrifice our fathers did in making us people again. Listening to Biti describing Zimbabwe to his masters in the West one may think that the country has fallen apart.

One three years ago, ED stood before Zimbabweans for the first time as the president of Zimbabwe He addressed the threats facing our country and he presented a vision to achieve a brighter future for all of citizens as he opened Zimbabwe for business.

As Mnangagwa starts a war against corruption and sharing the extraordinary progress we’ve made the detractors who had promised to spoil the spot embarked on the most violent attack on the nation and its fragile economy.

In less than two years, ED’s administration has accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of our country but in three days the built resurgent name of Zimbabwe was brought tumbling down like a deck of cards by the thump soldiers leaning on the side of the opposition.

Zimbabwe’s economy is booming like never before and the effects of this growth is seen in the pains of adjustment. Since ED’s election Zimbabwe had seen relentless attack from the West and the opposition parties in the region like the DA in South Africa the EFF of Malema Silima all engineered by the opposition.
Britain dedicated hours in parliament to discuss Zimbabwe. After a peaceful arrest of terrorists and a preemptive attack by our alert police officers and managed to stop a demonstration which was meant to be very violent the West took turns to demonise the way Zimbabwe dealt with the unconstitutional uprising on its own door steps.

Those crying fowl and mobilising neighbouring countries to speak against Zimbabwe have never condemned the attack on Zimbabwean police officers and security forces by the demonstrators. No one has talked about the actions of the opposition and the civic organisations.

Those who called for the stay away on 31 July set up road blocks to force people to stay away. But our police force were on too of the situation. The army brought in sanity and peace and Zimbabweans do applaud them.

In other words, Zimbabwe is stronger, safer, and a richer country than it was when ED assumed office less than three years ago.
We must stand up for the country and its people. Zimbabwe must not be threatened by those who lost elections like the EFF in South Africa and their handlers in the West.
This is great news for our citizens and for peace-loving people everywhere. It must be known that when people respect the rights of their neighbors, and defend the interests of their people, they can better work together to secure the blessings of safety, prosperity, and peace in their country.

Every Zimbabwean is the emissary of a distinct culture, a rich history, and a people bound together by ties of memory, tradition, and the values that make our country like nowhere else on Earth.

Zimbabwe must not be told how it should be itself.

President of America Trump once said if you kill our police we will kill you. It was strong but it must be known that the reaction of a government to violent demonstrations is proportionate to the level of violence.
Zimbabwe only asks that those declaring themselves policemen of Zimbabwe honour our sovereignty in return. Zimbabwe is not torturing its citizens. Soldiers quelled violence. Yes there were some overzealous Lunatics behind the guns who crossed the lines. For those people are urged to report to the authorities.

It must be a highest honor to represent Zimbabwe abroad.

Despite the bad things said about Zimbabwe there are many who helped us reach this moment — a moment that is actually far greater than people would understand; far greater — but for also their support and the critical support that we will all need going forward.

Zimbabweans must stand before the world to share the extraordinary progress we’ve made and not to vilify demonise and scandalise it. Gone are those days when workers are forced away by those with an agenda against the country.
But those days are over. We will no longer tolerate such abuse. We will not allow our workers to be victimized, our companies to be closed against their will and Zimbabwe must never apologize for protecting its people.
Many countries are pursuing their own unique visions, building their own hopeful futures, and chasing their own wonderful dreams of destiny, of legacy, and of a home. Why is Zimbabwe not allowed the same.

Zimbabwe is richer, humanity is better, because of the stunning peace keeping by our forces each very special, each very unique, and each shining brightly in its part of the country.
In each one, we see awesome promise of a people bound together by a shared past and working toward a common future.
Zimbabwe must not be extorted into abdication of power to those who are not elected and not electable.

It has become clear that the chaos which endured the week of the 31st July 2020 was sponsored.

Thousands of the yellow vests were blinded injured arrested and killed in France but no one said anything. Criminals were arrested in Zimbabwe and the air is polluted with noise.
All we can see is that Zimbabwe is under serious attack from within and from outside. The enemies of the state have managed to turn the people against their own country. The former colonisers move motions to recolonise Zimbabwe. How do we survive this onslaught. Will Zimbabwe be a colony again?

ZANU PF Defiance, F Word Information Officer Deployed To Speak On SABC

Paul Nyathi

Tafadzwa Mugwadi

Zanu PF Director of Information Tafadzwa Mugwadib who last week insulted an Al Jazeera journalist, the Stream presenter Femi Oke during a live virtual debate has been deployed by the party to represent it yet again in a foreign television news channel.

Mugwadi will represent ZANUPF in an SABC News programme on Wednesday night at 9pm.

In a debate that was themed “Are Zimbabweans being silenced?”, Oke was reading the audiences’ comments, Mugwadi started laughing interrupting her and said, “This is rubbish. F*ck you.”

The live discussion included Human Rights Watch’s director Dewa Mavhinga and main opposition MDC Alliance national spokesperson Fadzai Mahere.

The emotional information officer’s utterances last week leave him highly exposed with members of the public fearing he may lose his temper yet again and utter more scary stuff.

Top Harare Businessman Arrested For Swindling Another Businessman US$25k

State Media

Harare miller Wayne Moss (46), the managing director of Mr Brands, and another local company director were recently arrested on allegations of duping a city businessman of US$25 000 cash after misrepresenting to him that they had off-shore free funds in the United Kingdom.

Moss, who is jointly charged with Kudakwashe Gambanga (35), a director of Avanteguard (Pvt) Ltd, yesterday appeared at the Mbare Magistrates’ Court on fraud charges and the two were remanded out of custody to September 3.

They are alleged to have connived to defraud the businessman of the money by manufacturing fake proof of payments. The State alleged that Moss approached the businessman and introduced Gambanga in absentia, claiming that he was in urgent need of the money to pay lobola for his fiancée, Pride Gono of Borrowdale, but could not access his free funds in cash.

He further suggested that Gambanga was offering to meet any foreign obligations for anyone, who could give him the US$25 000.

The unsuspecting businessman is reported to have believed him and offered to assist on condition that Moss should present him with a proof of transfer for the money into his bank account in the United Arab Emirates.

According to the State, Moss later emailed the businessman a fictitious proof of payment for the transfer of the money from a United Kingdom Metro Bank account into the alleged victim’s bank account.

The businessman then released the money in batches of US$4 000 and US$21 000 to Moss.

However, the money never reflected in the businessman’s account prompting him to make a follow up with Moss, who then gave him Gambanga’s contact details. But the businessman allegedly failed to recover his money so he reported the deal to the police leading to the arrest of Moss and Gambanga.

Mr Zebediah Bofu prosecuted.

STATEMENT: What Patson Dzamara told The Cancer Support Network.

PUBLIC STATEMENT: SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT.

By Simba Chikanza | I am so saddened to hear our Patson Dzamara is no more, and I send my deepest condolences to the Dzamara family. While we’re all in such a sad grief, a certain, Mr. Kuda Musasiwa, has begun taking opportunity to use his plight to make false allegations. He last week discouraged the Cancer Support Network I interviewed from assisting Patson Dzamara claiming that they are “herbalists.”

This time Musasiwa has come back today on Wednesday 26th August 2020 once again to claim that they are “herbalists.”

The Cancer Support Network had offered to (including bringing in their expertise) take care of all expenses and handle everything in the process of Dzamara’s treatment. The Cancer Support Networks has done this in the past for other patients, and I have interviewed them in the same manner; they have never done herbal treatment or at any time mentioned or inferred such.

This was an organisation trying to help and they have in the past demonstrated good will to assist patients.

I have never in my life interviewed a herbalist nor do I personally take in their methods to the extent of publishing their work in the news. This cancer organisation, the only one I interviewed is a fully registered British company – their certificates and qualifications are online, they do not at all do herbals as alleged.

TIMELINE:
– On Wednesday 19th Aug a fund was set up to help Patson Dzamara and the announcement made that he has been diagnosed with cancer.
– An article was published on ZimEye on the same publicising the fund.
– The same day many people came up seeking to assist Mr Dzamara.
– On the same day the Cancer Support Network came up offering to assist in the same way they have done other patients in the past.
– A confusing tweet by Pachedu alleging that Cancer Support Networks is an organisation of herbalists, was quickly deleted on the 20th Aug following Mr Dzamara’s personal intervention, and below is their message – reproduced below:

In their benevolence, Cancer Support Networks had called for urgent treatment to be done on Patson Dzamara last week, indicating that his case was an emergency (the full timestamped interview is below). They recommended that despite the diagnosis having been stage 2B, condition was very aggressive and treatment should be commenced  immediately, he should not wait for for foreign based treatment which would only be possible weeks later.

. The cancer support network is on full record having been interviewed twice last week demanding that treatment be done immediately, and that people should not wait for foreign travel.

“…This is a very aggressive cancer and we need to act very fast now…. treatment has to commence now,” was their response in the below interview.

They were immediately labelled “herbalists” by Kuda Musasiwa who said they deserved to be ignored with contempt.  Musasiwa seems to have his own agenda and I have reported on the man in previous news articles for among others, demeaning the office of President Nelson Chamisa.

We have the messages from Pachedu confirming their interactions with Mr Dzamara last Thur/Friday.

Patson Dzamara communicated directly with the Cancer Support Network and he listened to their advice that treatment needs to commence immediately locally instead of waiting for foreign treatment which would happen more than 3 weeks later, caused by quarantining requirements in different countries. But the Cancer Support Network could only go so far, after they were hindered being being labelled “herbalists.”

– Between the 20th Aug and the 24th Aug, all attempts by the Cancer Support Networks were paused as a result.

Mr Dzamara said he had communicated with Musasiwa and Pachedu to clear all misconceptions. That Musasiwa continued to make the allegations  throughout the weekend, is still not clear, as far as his intentions since Patson Dzamara had already spoken about it.

– On Monday 24th Aug at 1741h, Dzamara wrote to the Cancer Support Networks saying: “Whatever help you can render to me will go a long way. Right now i need to go through the surgery as a matter of urgence [sic]this coming week.”

That was the last communication he sent.

– On that day, Cancer Support Networks reached out to send some money for his needs. They sent GBP 1038.00 raised in one day.

Meanwhile, Musasiwa has presented some screenshots of communications as evidence to claim that the org does herbal treatment. I have looked in their company records, and the person inscribed thereon, has no link or association whatsoever with the Cancer Support Network.

Furthermore the company does not do herbal treatment at all.

I enclose a copy of their registration certificate, and below is the interview with the Cancer Support Network:

In the same light there is a man named Wellence Mujuru previously exposed for running a fake cancer organisation, and has never at any time disputed the numerous articles that are over two years old. The many news articles are only published by several news websites. Today, Mujuru took opportunity to use the nation’s loss of Patson Dzamara to lay claim that the findings in the articles exposing his fake organisation, he called RWISA CANCER are false.

I am extremely saddened that my brother has passed on, and I feel it is immoral to use this time of mourning to settle personal scores. Let’s mourn our departed brother.

Keep Away From Gukurahundi Or Shift Residence” MLF Threaten – Yeah, Same Unbridled Desires Led To Gukurahundi

There Is Peace, Harmony In Zimbabwe, Claims “Mr Bin” Patrick Chinamasa

Patrick Chinamasa

Farai Dziva|Acting Zanu PF spokesperson, Patrick Chinamasa has claimed Zanu PF detractors are “desperate to portray Zimbabwe as a nation facing a serious crisis.”

Chinamasa made the remarks in the capital, Harare on Tuesday.

Zanu PF is persecuting its perceived opponents and several human rights activists and opposition members have been arrested.

Said Chinamasa :

Zanu Pf Maintains There Is No Crisis In Zimbabwe

By A Correspondent- The ruling ZANU PF party has accused civic rights groups, the United States of America, the opposition MDC and “ghost” social media accounts of spreading “fake news” claiming that there is a crisis in Zimbabwe.

ZANU PF acting spokesperson Patrick Chinamasa on Tuesday told reporters that sections of the local media have also been recruited to spread “malice” about the country.

Chinamasa challenged foreign countries to seek clarity on what is happening in Zimbabwe from the government instead of relying on “faceless” organisations. Chinamasa said.

Zanu Pf Makes Shocking Claims On Authors Of Catholic Bishops Letter

By A Correspondent- Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has said Zimbabweans are under siege from the current administration and the human rights abuses have increased under the current regime.

Addressing the medi outside Harare magistrates court Wednesday, Chamisa said it was unbelievable that in a free country, a citizen would be denied bail basing on assumptions.

Said Chamisa:

“The human rights abuses in this country are unbealivable….In a free Zimbabwe someone is denied bail. It can’t be normal. A journalist being victimised for saying what they have seen. Zimbabweans are under siege.”

Itai was allegedly abducted by state security agents while he was at a barbershop in Harare.

Antonio Conte will continue as the coach of Inter Milan after holding a ‘constructive meeting’ with the club’s Chinese president Steven Zhang on Tuesday.

The gaffer’s future had become uncertain after he publicly slammed his employers for failing to back the team in the face of heavy criticism and that his efforts had not been recognised.

The claims were said to have created a rift between the two parties, but following the meeting, Conte will remain the coach at Inter.
