Top Bulawayo musician Calvin “Cal-Vin” Nhliziyo is being buried in Bulawayo this Sunday morning.
Several dignitaries including the Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Kirsty Coventry will be at the burial and is expected to deliver a message on behalf of the Ministry.
Also in attendance will be the Mayor of the City of Bulawayo, Councillor Solomon Mguni and Bulawayo Province Minister of State Judith Ncube.
Calvin received a huge send off from residents of Bulawayo on Saturday when a road show organised by the arts fraternity in the city attracted an overwhelming response.

Meanwhile, Mthwakazi Republic Party has disassociated itself from some unruly elements who joined the road show blaming Cal-vin’s death on a perceived Gukurahundi hand.
Renowned Bulawayo journalist and radio personality Ezra Tshisa Sibanda extended the message from the MRP President Mqondisi Moyo.
“MRP President Mqondisi Moyo has disassociated his party from the embarrassing and mischievous behaviour by some unruly elements who invaded King Cal Vin”s funeral road show in the Western surbubs of Bulawayo this Saturday afternoon. They were carrying the banner which linked Cal Vin’s killing to Gukurahundi operations. Mr Moyo was in the rural areas, had no knowledge of that protest and told me the banner is not even from MRP and doesn’t have its logo. While MRP, like all Bulawayo people want justice for Cal Vin, they would never act so clumsy and direspct Cal Vin and his family bringing such protest to people who are celebrating the King’s life,” said Sibanda on Facebook.
Former Studio 263 actress Yvonne Mangunda who broke boundaries when she joined the sportscasters’ desk, which is a male dominated field, at Star FM eight years ago has unceremoniously left the radio station at a time when she was at her peak.
Mangunda who presented the Daily Sports Zone on Star FM on weekdays at 6PM, recently won the Sports journalist of the year award (Electronic) at the Sports Journalists Association Northern Region Awards.
She announced her departure from the radio station on her Twitter page leave fans and listeners dejected.
She leaves at a time when a number of other presenters also left the station under unclear circumstances.

A ZANU PF Member of Parliament has called on the speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda to withdraw MDC Harare West legislator Joana Mamombe from Parliament after doctors confirmed that she suffers from a mental illness.
On Thursday ZANU PF legislator for Mberengwa North Hon Tafanana Zhou moved a motion for the removal of Mamombe from Parliament after state doctors confirmed to court that she has a mental disorder and thus cannot stand trial on charges of faking abductions along with two other MDC-A activists.

My point of privilege arises from our national Constitution, Section 129 (1) (m) that states that, ‘The seat of a Member of Parliament becomes vacant if the Member is certified to be mentally disordered or intellectually handicapped under any law in force in Zimbabwe… Hon. Joanna Mamombe was certified as mentally ill by two Government doctors. I therefore Hon. Speaker Sir, ask that a Privileges Committee be set to look into the matter. And with doctors saying she cannot stand trial, Hon Zhou said the Constitution of Zimbabwe is clear on what should happen when a person is suffering from a mental illness.
“Mr. Speaker Sir. In response, the Speaker of the National House of Assembly Advocate Jacob Mudenda said Parliament will get direction from the judiciary which is handling the fake abduction matter involving Mamombe.
“We should be able to get an official response from the judiciary and the doctor’s reports accordingly and compare with whosoever is the sponsor of the honourable member.
“However, because the matter is still with our courts and the courts have not pronounced themselves as to the results of the medical findings, we shall have to be cautious in proceeding accordingly until such time that the matter has been fully ventilated by the courts.”

It is now official. Zimbabwe has become a fully-fledged banana republic.Not that people did not know that we had become a banana republic, but events surrounding the arrest of one notorious Henrietta Rushwaya reflect that Zimbabwe has gone to the dogs in terms of people, who are determining our destiny as a country.
Maybe the rot started with the State House grab of 2017, but Zimbabweans were ready to give Ngwena and his fellow Junta PF members a chance, but what is now happening in the corridors of power makes one cringe in embarrassment.
Last week we touched on the subject of whether Mnangagwa was surrounded by criminals or if he was surrounding himself with criminals.
Up to now we are still not very clear. According to what has been written and not refuted, Mnangagwa is a relative of Rushwaya, a person, who has appeared before the courts numerous times facing charges of dishonesty.
We saw Henrietta during Mnangagwa’s inauguration after the coup where she was playing some official role and wondered what he thought about her history of appearing in court facing charges of dishonesty.
Maybe he doesn’t think anything about it. Or doesn’t care about that kind of history or background.
Maybe that is why we have another Rushwaya, who is reportedly a sister of Henrietta and presumably a relative to Mnangagwa running the show at Dead BC.
We guess there is no harm in getting roles and jobs for relatives.
We certainly won’t begrudge her getting the responsibility of heading the organisation as watching Dead BC occasionally requires one to have a huge pile of painkillers to survive the excruciating torture.
The lame excuse that Mnangagwa is being sabotaged has been peddled, but that is absolute tosh.It is time Mnangagwa took responsibility for the mess that he has been creating for himself.
The president or person occupying the office may not necessarily be a respectable individual, but the office should at all times be respected and be kept clear or away from embarrassing episodes such as the ones unfolding before us.
After having interacted with Robert Mugabe for many years, surely Mnangagwa should have learnt a lot about keeping the office respected and respectable.
Snake oil salesmen and other charlatans driving their vulgar Lamborghinis and Ferraris should not be seen anywhere near Mnangagwa.
The same should be the case with shadowy conmen from Asia, who pose as businessmen.
If a president is constantly surrounded by conmen and shadowy characters, people will soon conclude that he is of a similar disposition, rightly or wrongly.
In short, last week, Henrietta Rushwaya was arrested at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport after being found in possession of about 6kg of gold, which was reportedly destined for Dubai, where a lot of donations have been coming from of late.
These donations include a plane that we can use “anytime for free” and a lot of medical donations amid interest to donate to Auxillia’s Angel of Hope Foundation.
Could that gold have been going to pay for all those opaque deals and operations?
After all, did we not have a visit recently from a senior member of the royal family of the UAE where his intention and outcome of his visit were very opaque?
Back to sister Henrietta, after being arrested, they reportedly tried to bribe civil aviation officials, who had detected the gold.
What is even more intriguing is that Rushwaya was reportedly escorted to the airport with the gold by one of Mnangagwa’s aides.
At the airport, they reportedly sabotaged the CCTV system to ensure that their movements and activities were not recorded.
Here lies the problem.
Why would an aide of the president escort a gold smuggler? That leaves room for all kinds of interpretation with most people likely to link the office of the president to the smuggling attempt.
People will also be interested to know where Rushwaya and her team got the power and influence to turn off the airport CCTV.
No ordinary person can turn off or order the disabling of the CCTV system at an international airport as there are serious security implications.
Only powerful people can do that.
This is why the president and his minders should not allow shadowy characters access to him or his office.
Another development has torched off debates around the country and beyond.
Upon being quizzed about the source of the gold, Henrietta, who was the president of the Zimbabwe Miners Federation, implicated a certain Ali, who has of late been hanging around our minister of Mines.
Ali was then arrested.
We are told that one of the aides after being nailed, told officers that the gold belonged to Auxillia and Collins — the president’s wife and son.
Right or wrong, this should not be happening as it can only do untold damage to the highest office in the land.
Surely, the illicit export of our mineral resources is one of the clearest signs of being unpatriotic sellouts as this deprives the country of any revenue inflows and results in under development.
It looks awkward when the same people associating with the president have in the past been unpatriotic to the point of throwing matches involving the national football team, the Warriors.
It smells or looks like gangsters’ paradise.
It looks untidy, Comrade President. When you are the president and not a minister where you could hide behind Robert Mugabe the Bobster, you have to be seen to be squeaky clean.
Surrounding yourself with people or relatives with a propensity for scandal and criminal activities is bound to smear you with mud and hurt your legacy as people will assume the misdemeanours have your approval or indulgence.
A 29-year-old man from Zvishavane and his girlfriend died in an accident when a Honda Fit they were travelling in veered off the road, hit a tree and overturned before landing on its roof after allegedly spending the greater part of the night drinking at a local nightspot.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident which occurred just after midnight on Friday at the 28km peg along the Gweru-Zvishavane highway. Asst Comm Nyathi said the vehicle was going towards Zvishavane and was being driven by Timothy Java with one passenger Caroline Mamvura (26) when the accident occured. He said Mamvura died on the spot while Java died on admission to the hospital.
“I can confirm that two people died in an accident on Friday at around 12.45am when the driver of the vehicle lost control on approaching the 28km peg and it veered off the road, hit a tree, overturned and landed on its roof. The car had one female passenger who died on the spot.
The driver died on admission to the Shurugwi District Hospital,” he said.
Asst Comm Nyathi said police attended the scene and Java and Mamvura’s bodies were taken to Shurugwi District Hospital mortuary.
Witnesses said the two, who are both from Zvishavane, were drinking beer at a local place for the greater part of the evening while celebrating their friend’s birthday.
A friend who declined to be named said Mamvura lived in Mapanzure on the outskirts of Zvishavane Town while Java is an artisanal miner.
The friend said the two could have been cuddling which resulted in the accident as they were discovered half naked on the scene of the accident.
“The two left the night club around midnight. Java said he would drop his girlfriend at Mapanzure before proceeding to Zvishavane Town. Soon after they left we were informed that they had been involved in an accident. The two were found not fully dressed,” said the friend.

THE Government will tomorrow convene a crunch meeting with the Apex Council to deliberate on the civil servants remuneration with a new offer on the table which will put to an end the tug of war, which has been going on since April.
Tomorrow’s meeting will be the last to be convened by the two parties and if they fail to reach a consensus, according to the law, the negotiations will be deemed as a deadlock. Both Government and the civil servants have expressed confidence that the meeting will yield positive results and that some teachers who were threatening to down tools and had taken a lethargic approach to go to work ahead of full-scale school opening next week will rethink their action.
Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Professor Paul Mavima told Sunday News that Government will bring a new offer to the table, expressing hope that the workers will accept it.
“The meeting with civil servants representatives will be held on Monday. Government has a new offer for the civil servants. We will discuss the new offer in the meeting. Unfortunately, I can’t pre-empt the offer before the meeting. While we are meeting civil servants representatives, we are urging teachers to report for duty rather than withholding the service.
“They should not hold Government to ransom. They can report for work while we finish the negotiations. The Second Republic is a listening Government,” he said.
Apex Council chairperson Mrs Cecilia Alexander said tomorrow’s meeting will be the third and final meeting between Government and the civil servants representatives. Mrs Alexander said they were hopeful that the meeting will yield positive results failure of which would be a stalemate.
“The meeting with Government has been scheduled for Monday. Legally this will be the last meeting between Government and civil servants regarding this matter. We hope that we will reach an agreement. If we do not, it means we would have reached a deadlock and we can’t negotiate any further. These are the provisions of the law. We are not privy to what Government is bringing to the table on Monday. We will be updating you on the outcome of the meeting. We have been having the negotiations since April and the Monday meeting will be our last,” she said.
The Government recently effected a 40 percent cost-of-living salary adjustment for civil servants which they started receiving last month while negotiations continue with unions representing civil servants over a final agreement on wages and other employment benefits.
The adjustment was in addition to the continuation of the US$75 a month Covid-19 allowance which are among interim steps taken by the Government to help cushion its employees while the negotiations are in progress.

Mwonzora made the remarks on Twitter where he challenged anyone without any mental malady to cast the first stone.
“The calls by a Zanu PF MP for the recall of Hon. Joanna Mamombe on account of her illness are sadistic, unfair, unjust and hypocritical. She must be given enough time to rest and recuperate. Let he who is without a mental malady cast the first stone,” said Mwonzora.
Last week, a Zanu PF legislator Honourable Tafanana Zhou moved a motion to have Mamombe removed from parliament arguing that rules of the August House requires mentally sound people only.

Honourable Peter Moyo who dumped Nelson Chamisa for Thokozani Khupe has told Parliament that President Emmerson Mnangagwa is doing his best for the country but he is alone.
The Southerton legislator said the President is fighting for every Zimbabweans to have a better life but there are others who are working against him.
Speaking in the National Assembly, the legislator said if the President was not on the forefront of fighting corruption, Henrietta Rushwaya would not have been arrested.
“The President is trying his level best, but he is alone in this fight. If he was not on the forefront to fight corruption, you can be rest assured that the person who was arrested with gold at the airport was not going to be arrested.
“People had the audacity to switch off the CCTV so that they would not be seen but we thank God, there were people who were honest to defeat this Lucifer. I am happy for those people who are courageous enough,” he said.
Honourable said the situation is the same when it comes to local authorities where the President want everyone to have a roof over their head, but other are coming to destroy those houses.
He said it was high time that President Mnangagwa look around him adding that there are big brains out there waiting to be tapped.
“You go to the local authorities out there; they sell residential stands to desperate home seekers. They have become land barons in every local authority.
“The President is fighting for every citizen to have shelter over his or her head, but some people are busy demolishing those houses. They are working against the President. It is high time the President looks around. There are big brains out there.
“There are big brains in the opposition who can take this country forward than the people he thinks love him. Even as I speak, I can be a very good Minister. I can do a better job than the people we think are in front of us and they are better equipped to do a better job,” he said.
According to Honourable Moyo, people surrounding President Mnangagwa pretend to defend him during the day but fight him during the night.
“They are working against the President but if they come here, they say ‘ah, we are here to defend the President, we are here to support him’ but during the night, they work against him. Therefore, corruption must be fought from all cylinders,” said the legislator.
Yesterday, 31 October 2020, one more person died from Covid-19 taking the cumulative total to 243 from the 8367 people who tested positive to the deadly disease since it was first reported in the country.
Five new cases were also recorded yesterday from the 681 PCR tests done while 10 recoveries were also reported to take the recovery rate to 94 percent.

PUBLIC examinations for Ordinary Level candidates will spill into January next year, while results for Grade Seven candidates will be released before year-end to allow parents adequate time to secure Form One places for their children.
The examinations commence on 1 December with around 1,2 million candidates having registered to sit for the exams countrywide. Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) board chairperson Professor Eddie Mwenje told our Harare Bureau that Advanced Level examinations will however, be completed by year-end.
“Examinations will start on December 1 with Grade Seven candidates being the first to sit for the exams. This will enable their answer scripts to be marked and the results to be published in December so as to allow parents enough time to look for Form One places. Advanced Level candidates are also likely to write and complete their examinations in December. Ordinary Level classes will have their examinations spill into January.”
He said due to the large number of subjects offered at O’Level, it was inevitable that the exams would spill into 2021.-The Sunday News
A man from Masvingo slapped and punched two women after they refused to give him their cellphone numbers, moments after he had complimented them for their body structures.
This emerged when Paul Mutero (27) was convicted by Masvingo magistrate Ms Conceptor Ngwerume of assault last week. Although he pleaded not guilty to the assault charge, the magistrate found him guilty and ordered him to pay a fine of $1 200 or face two months in jail.
Prosecuting, Ms Heather Mhlanga told the court that on 17 October, Mutero met two women, Miss Shine Mudzanga and Miss Tatenda Mudavanhu in the city at about 7pm. Mutero then started commenting on their body structures but they ignored him.
He then asked for their contact numbers but the women again ignored him.
The court heard that Mutero got angry for being ignored and grabbed Miss Mudzanga and slapped her once on the left cheek.
Miss Mudavanhu tried to restrain Mutero but he hit her on the nose and left rib, the court heard.
Mutero only stopped assaulting the women when he saw an approaching car and fled.
The case was reported at Chesvingo police who launched a manhunt and arrested Mutero.
In an unrelated incident, a woman from Chief Shumba in Masvingo assaulted her housemate with a switch after she discovered that her clay pot that was boiling with peas on the fireplace had been removed and emptied while she was away.
Shelina Marasha appeared before Ms Ngwerume on 28 October 2020 for sentencing after she pleaded guilty to the assault case. She was ordered to pay a fine of $1 640.
Prosecutor, Ms Mhlanga told the court that on 20 October, Marasha who was staying with Ms Rumbidzai Chipundo arrived home at around 12pm from a neighbouring farm.
She found a clay pot which she had left on the fire place with peas emptied and set aside.
The court heard that Marasha quizzed Ms Chipundo on why her pot was now empty and when she did not get a satisfactory answer, an argument arose.
Ms Mhlanga said Marasha then started beating up Ms Chipundo with open hands several times on the face. She then took a switch and beat Ms Chipundo several times all over the body.-The Sunday News

“He is a little bit frustrated, any striker would be frustrated, he hasn’t scored much in the last couple of games, so he has to simplify the game a little bit more,” Hunt was quoted by Soccer Laduma.
“Even in the second half, he tried to get too clever. But to be fair, in three games he’s had a good couple of chances.
“But as long as he keeps working hard, keeps running off the ball, defending and doing the right things then he will keep playing.

A clinic under Chief Sai in Gokwe South District, Midlands Province, was destroyed by fire on Wednesday living more than 30 000 families stranded.
Reports suggest that a gas leak from a refrigerator at Sai Clinic triggered the inferno which consumed drugs, medical equipment and property worth thousands of dollars.
The villagers are now forced to walk over 100km to the nearest clinic in the hot and dry district.
The incident was confirmed by the Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi. He said:
Police are investigating a fire incident which occurred at Sai Clinic on 28 October.
It is said the fire broke out in the dispensary and spread to other rooms, destroying various properties including drugs.
No one was injured and the cause of the fire is yet to be established.
Meanwhile, Gokwe Civil Protection Unit head Netsai Mushauri said they have dispatched a team to ascertain what really happened and how they can assist.-ZTN
A Marange man who is determined not to impregnate his wife due to his fear of paternal responsibilities has resorted to using condoms, The Weekender can reveal.
Responding to a maintenance claim by his ex-wife, Blessing Mandimutsira said the three children from his first marriage are enough as he is struggling to provide for them.
“Intimacy with my new wife is less exciting as we are using protection. I cannot afford to have more children. Having three children in this economy is very expensive. I am failing to take care of my children and I do not want to overburden myself by having more,” said Mandimutsira.
He had been hauled before the courts by Mispa Mukwavaya, the mother of his children.
Mukwavaya was seeking $6 000 as maintenance for her three minor children. The pair appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Lazarus Murendo.
Mandimutsira offered to pay US$10 every month for the upkeep of the children. He highlighted that he is unemployed.
“Your Worship, I am struggling and she knows that. That is why she left me. She told me that I was poor and neglecting my family’s needs, yet I had been providing for them to the best of my abilities. Now she wants maintenance from a pauper like me,” said Mandimutsira.
“During our marriage we survived from the commission I got from selling bales of second hand clothes. Now with the Sakubva Flea Market closed, l’m really struggling to make ends meet,” said Mandimutsira.
However, Mukwavaya argued that a monthly pay-out of US$10 would be inadequate for her three children.
Mr Murendo told Mandimutsira to fork out $3 000 every month for the upkeep of the three kids until they turn 18 or become self-sufficient
“You are a father and should look after your children. You cannot come here and boast about your inability to provide for your children.
A minimum of $1000 should be offered for each child, although it is still inadequate,” said Murendo.-Manica Post

Police officers last week caught a Sakubva man sodomising his girlfriend’s 12-year-old son ‘as punishment for consuming his rabbit meat’.
Victor Musonza (43) has since been hauled before the Mutare Magistrates’ Court.
He is facing aggravated indecent assault charges.
Musonza pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Ms Nyasha Kutureo on Thursday.
He was denied bail and remanded in custody to November 5 for trial.
Mr Brian Goto represented the State.
It is the State’s case that on October 20 around midday, Musonza went to his girlfriend’s home and asked the juvenile to roast his rabbit.
The boy roasted the meat but ate it.
“At around 8pm the same day, Musonza returned to collect the meat but the minor told him that he had eaten the meat as he had nothing else to eat.
“Musonza lost his temper and assaulted the boy with a wooden plank. He force-marched the child to his house. On their way there, Musonza bought some beer at a sheeben.
“Upon arrival at his house, Musonza dragged the complainant into his wooden cabin and locked the door from inside,” said Mr Goto.
The minor was forced to drink the alcohol.
Musonza then allegedly sodomised the boy.
“As he was doing so, Musonza heard some voices outside and quickly put on his clothes, thereby forgetting to wear his underwear.
As it turned out, Constables Matare and Muchiri were investigating a kidnapping case that had been reported by the minor’s mother.
They forced the door open and discovered two pairs of underwear on the floor.
The minor’s underwear and shorts were soiled with semen. When the police asked what had happened, the minor spilled the beans.

Matuke told the Daily News on Friday that members were unnecessarily labelling each other G40 members in a bid to be more appealing in the party’s upcoming elections which are part of the ongoing restructuring exercise. He said:

It’s an election, and so if someone realises that his or her competitor can win, he or she will label him or her a G40 member.
People are throwing all sorts of accusations against each other without evidence.

Assess the source
Who shared the information with you and where did they get it from? Even if it is friends or family, you still need to vet their source. To check for fake social media accounts, look at how long profiles have been active, their number of followers and their most recent posts. For websites, check the “About Us” and “Contact Us” pages to look for background information and legitimate contact details.
When it comes to images or videos, make it a habit to verify their authenticity.
For images, you can use reverse image search tools provided by Google and TinEye. For videos, you can use Amnesty International’s YouTube DatViewer, which extracts thumbnails that you can enter into reverse image search tools.
Other clues that a source may be unreliable or inaccurate include unprofessional visual design, poor spelling and grammar, or excessive use of all caps or exclamation points.
Go beyond headlines
Headlines may be intentionally sensational or provocative to get high numbers of clicks. Read more than just the headline of an article – go further and look at the entire story. Search more widely than social media for information – look at print sources such as newspapers and magazines, and digital sources such as podcasts and online news sites. Diversifying your sources allows you to get a better picture of what is or is not trustworthy.
Identify the author
Search the author’s name online to see if they are real or credible.
Check the date
When you come across information, ask yourself these questions: Is this a recent story? Is it up to date and relevant to current events? Has a headline, image or statistic been used out of context?
Examine the supporting evidence
Credible stories back up their claims with facts – for example, quotes from experts or links to statistics or studies. Verify that experts are reliable and that links actually support the story
Check your biases
We all have biases, and these factor into how we view what’s happening around us. Evaluate your own biases and why you may have been drawn to a particular headline or story. What is your interpretation of it? Why did you react to it that way? Does it challenge your assumptions or tell you what you want to hear? What did you learn about yourself from your interpretation or reaction?
Turn to fact-checkers
When in doubt, consult trusted fact-checking organizations, such as the International Fact-Checking Network and global news outlets focused on debunking misinformation, including the Associated Press and Reuters.
Information, misinformation and disinformation
Information is what we call things that are accurate to the best of our current knowledge. For instance, COVID-19 stands for coronavirus disease 2019 and is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. One of the difficulties with any new pathogen, like this coronavirus, is that information changes over time as we learn more about the science.
Misinformation, on the other hand, is false information.
Importantly, it is false information that was not created with the intention of hurting others. Misinformation is often started by someone who genuinely wants to understand a topic and cares about keeping other people safe and well. It is then shared by others who feel the same.
Everyone believes they are sharing good information – but unfortunately, they are not. And depending on what is being shared, the misinformation can turn out to be quite harmful.
At the other end of the spectrum is disinformation. Unlike misinformation, this is false information created with the intention of profiting from it or causing harm. That harm could be to a person, a group of people, an organization or even a country. Disinformation generally serves some agenda and can be dangerous. During this pandemic, we are seeing it used to try to erode our trust in each other and in our government and public institutions.
How to navigate misinformation and disinformation
It helps to think of misinformation and disinformation spreading in the same way as viruses. One person might share fake news with their friends and family, and then a handful of them share it with more of their friends and family, and before you know it, potentially harmful or dangerous information is taking over everyone’s newsfeed.
But just as we can protect against COVID-19 with hand washing, physical distancing and masks, we can slow down the spread of misinformation and disinformation by practising some information hygiene. Before sharing something, ask yourself these questions:
How does this make me feel?
Why am I sharing this?
How do I know if it’s true?
Where did it come from?
Whose agenda might I be supporting by sharing it?
If you know something is false, or if it makes you angry, don’t share it to debunk it or make fun of it. That just spreads the misinformation or disinformation further. Learn more about how you can report misinformation online.
Good places to go for reliable information are the websites of your national Ministry of Health or the World Health Organization. Remember, though: information will change as we learn more about the virus.
What WHO is doing
WHO has developed guidance to help individuals, community leaders, governments and the private sector understand some key actions they can take to manage the COVID-19 infodemic.
For instance, WHO has been working closely with more than 50 digital companies and social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok, Twitch, Snapchat, Pinterest, Google, Viber, WhatsApp and YouTube, to ensure that science-based health messages from the organization or other official sources appear first when people search for information related to COVID-19. WHO has also partnered with the Government of the United Kingdom on a digital campaign to raise awareness of misinformation around COVID-19 and encourage individuals to report false or misleading content online. In addition, WHO is creating tools to amplify public health messages – including its WHO Health Alert chatbot, available on WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Viber – to provide the latest news and information on how individuals can protect themselves and others from COVID-19.

By A Correspondent- There was drama at Vonabo farm, Glendale where a suspected go between who was in the habit of pimping boyfriends for a married woman was bashed by four assailants at a nyau traditional dance ceremony at the farm.
The matter came to light at Concession magistrates courts yesterday where Tobias Chimutsaro, Richmore Chimutsaro, Maxwell Chimutsaro and Josphine Zimunya pleaded guilty to assault charge before magistrate Nixon Mangoti.
The court heard that on October 17 the complainant Bruce Marata was at Vonabo farm watching Nyau dance when the quartet approached him accusing him of facilitating boyfriends for Tobias’ wife.
The charged four took turns to assault Marata with open hands.
He subsequently fled for his dear life and filed a police report.
The quartet were lucky to escape jail after the magistrate cautioned and discharged them after considering the degree of attack and that of the provocation in the case.
By A Correspondent- Minister of Energy Zhemu Soda has been accused of bribing Zanu PF Mashonaland Central provincial members to support him as Muzarabani district coordinating committee (DCC) chairperson.
Soda who is allegedly using president Emmerson Mnangagwa’s appointment as a tool to be uncontested is reported to have bribed provincial youth members to threaten district members to vote him or risk being expelled on factional grounds.
Sources who spoke to a local publication said the youth provincial members are working parallel to party orders of provincial members not to be involved in DCC elections.
“There has been an outcry on the instructions that provincial members should not take sides in these DCC elections. In Mzarabani cdes Lancelot Magede and Nhemachena are causing confusion They are the Provincial members for Youth wing but pipo have bn paid by Soda to threaten pipo not to go against Soda as he was appointed by HE,” said the source.
“In Hoya last month they used Ward Assembly chair to threaten villagers who were going against Zhemu that they risk being chased away from Chief Kasekete’s area.
“The other candidate Naison Mutahwa was chased away from the Hoya meeting after saying why are you contesting a presidential appointee,” added the source.

His next weekly press conference should begin with confession and truth telling failure of which he must shut it down.
He must confess that him (Patrick Chinamasa), President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Vice President, Constantino Chiwenga, State Security Minister, Owen Mudah Ncube, Foreign Affairs Minister, Sibusiso Moyo, Mines Minister, Winston Chitando, Reserve Bank Governor, John Mangudya Business man, Kutakwashe Tagwirei (Mnangagwa’s business front man) and many others are corrupt international gold and diamond smugglers, also involved in hard cash externalisation using proxies.
And then tell the truth that the economic and political crisis in Zimbabwe is not caused by targeted sanctions but Shona culture of stealing and corruption imbedded in their DNA. And that the looting and plundering of the country’s resources is led by him and other international smugglers and thieves mentioned above.

For one Bulawayo woman, an innocuous remark that the wind her husband passed “smelled horrible” resulted in a horrible misunderstanding that led her to desert her matrimonial home.
This was heard when the woman, Pamela Sibanda, approached the Bulawayo Civil Court seeking a protection order against her husband Philani Sibanda.
Pamela who has since deserted their matrimonial home in Morningside claimed her husband was in the habit of verbally and physically harassing her.
She said she was now living in fear after her husband swore that she was going to die in his hands.
“Philani Sibanda is my husband and I left him over a month ago as a result of his violent behaviour. A day before I left, he insulted me after I overheard him talking on the phone with another woman, and he then damaged my phone saying it has evidence against him.
“On 4 October 2020 he sent me a threatening message saying I should brace myself for what is coming. He went on to send another message saying all hell will break loose because he has nothing to lose anymore.
“He is constantly threatening me saying I will die in his hands and I do not know what he meant with that. Because of his continuous threats I am now living in fear that he will harm me,” said Pamela.
In response, Philani said trouble started after his wife accused him of being responsible for the “horrible smell” that had engulfed their bedroom.
“I had never insulted her. I only reacted after she started attacking me. On the day in question she alleged the room was smelling because I was ‘puffing’ and she started spraying perfume all over. I only got hold of her hair and asked her if she wants to fight with me.
“I never threatened her or physically abused her. She left home after we had a misunderstanding and she always refers to the past. I however, admit that I sent her a message saying all hell will break loose because she was refusing to come back home,” responded Philani.
In her ruling presiding magistrate Marygold Ndlovu ordered Philani not to threaten his wife in any way.-statemedia
By A Correspondent- A bid by a 23 year old man from Esiphezini area in Umzingwane District in Matabeleland South Province, to rein in his 15-year-old wife after he found her in bed with another man in their matrimonial house backfired when he was later arrested for sleeping with a minor.
This was heard when Joel Mwembe who is also an illegal gold panner appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Shepherd Munjanja charged with physical abuse.
Allegations were that on 16 October 2020, Mwembe was at home with his wife whose name is being withheld for ethical reasons since she is a minor, when they had an argument over a love message which the latter found in his phone. It is alleged that when his wife prodded him over the love message, Mwembe reportedly flew into a rage and started assaulting her.
The matter was reported to the police leading to his arrest and subsequent appearance in court. In court it was heard that Mwembe assaulted his wife several times with a belt until it broke into pieces. He then took a cooking stick and beat her up with it until it also cracked and he threw it away. After that he allegedly took a switch and assaulted her.
The complainant sustained injuries all over the body and was referred to hospital for medication.
Mwembe defended himself saying he assaulted his wife after he caught her having sex with another man in their matrimonial home but to no avail.
“It is not true that I assaulted her because of love messages that she found in my phone. She lied to cover up her infidelity after I caught her red-handed having sexual intercourse with another man. On the day in question I was not at home. I was at work and I had even bought her some goodies as I wanted to surprise her as my wife,” said Mwembe.
He continued: “When I opened the bedroom door, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I found her in the act with another man. While trying to come to terms with what was happening, her partially naked boyfriend pushed me away and bolted out of the room.
“With the help of our neighbours some whom I also work with at the mine, we chased the boyfriend who also stays nearby and we apprehended him. We called his (boyfriend)’s relatives who came and witnessed the drama. I was surprised when she told the police that I assaulted her for confronting me over a love message she saw in my phone.-statemedia

A family member, a niece described Anna as ‘a loving mother who was always hardworking.’
She passed away following a combined struggle with COVID and colon cancer.
She had colon cancer before and was later diagnosed COVID positive after hospitalisation, a church elder told ZimEye.

Dear Customer Following the gazetted amendments to the Finance Act (No. 8 of 2020), please note that the collection of Intermediated Money Transfer Tax (IMTT) has been extended to include transfers of foreign currency with effect from 1 August 2020. Kindly note the amendments that have come into effect:
A tax rate of 2% of the transaction value shall apply on foreign currency transactions, including Telegraphic Transfers, Mastercard and Visa transactions.
The tax-free thresholds in local and foreign currency transactions have been revised to ZWL300 and set at USD5 respectively.
Transaction values equivalent to or exceeding ZWL2.5 million and USD100,000 will attract a flat tax rate of ZWL50,000 and USD2,000, respectively.
In line with these new requirements of the Act, please be advised that CABS will be deducting IMTT, in retrospect from 1 August 2020, from all qualifying foreign currency transactions on which this tax was not deducted.
By A Correspondent- Retired Major General Paradzai Zimondi has officially handed over the reins at the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS), to incoming Commissioner-General Moses Chihobvu.
Zimhondi was forced to go on three months of pre-retirement leave after 22 years at the helm of the country’s prisons.
His successor becomes the substantive head of the service with effect from November 1 (tomorrow). Speaking at the handover-takeover ceremony conducted at the depots’ parade square in Ntabazinduna, Zimhondi said:
Growth and change are inevitable. When the time has come one must go. I have selflessly served my nation. The time has come for me to retire into civilian life.
Incoming Commissioner-General Moses Chihobvu pledged to build on his predecessor’s achievements to promote the country’s Vision 2030.
He also thanked President Emmerson Mnangagwa for showing “confidence” in him by appointing him to the post.
The Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, said the changeover of command ceremony was a befitting one to Zimhondi’s who did his “job well” as ZPCS commander.-statemedia
By A Correspondent- A Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) ecologist, Exeverino Chinoitezvi, who was reported missing from the wreckage of a crashed light aircraft has not yet been found, contrary to an earlier report.
Following the plane crash on Friday last week, ZimParks, deployed four light aircraft and helicopters, sniffer dogs and a party of 25 people the following day.
A South African national died in the accident while two other men – the Zimbabwean pilot and a South African wildlife expert – were critically injured and are admitted at a local hospital.
It is not yet clear what caused the light aircraft to come down but ZimParks has commended the pilot for his heroics in trying to save the plane.
ZimParks spokesman Tinashe Farawo said:
We understand the pilot made a heroic effort to save the aircraft. The particular area they were flying over is mountainous, and we understand the pilot battled to land the aircraft as best as he could on a gentler escarpment, possibly saving three lives.
Reports indicate that Chinoitezvi walked away from the wreckage of the Cessna 182 aircraft which crashed in the Zambezi Valley’s Chewore wilderness to look for water to drink on Saturday.
By A Correspondent- Police officers last week caught a Sakubva man sodomising his girlfriend’s 12-year-old son ‘as punishment for consuming his rabbit meat’.
Victor Musonza (43) has since been hauled before the Mutare Magistrates’ Court.
He is facing aggravated indecent assault charges.
Musonza pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Ms Nyasha Kutureo on Thursday.
He was denied bail and remanded in custody to November 5 for trial.
Mr Brian Goto represented the State.
It is the State’s case that on October 20 around midday, Musonza went to his girlfriend’s home and asked the juvenile to roast his rabbit.
The boy roasted the meat but ate it.
“At around 8pm the same day, Musonza returned to collect the meat but the minor told him that he had eaten the meat as he had nothing else to eat.
“Musonza lost his temper and assaulted the boy with a wooden plank. He force-marched the child to his house. On their way there, Musonza bought some beer at a sheeben.
“Upon arrival at his house, Musonza dragged the complainant into his wooden cabin and locked the door from inside,” said Mr Goto.
The minor was forced to drink the alcohol.
Musonza then allegedly sodomised the boy.
“As he was doing so, Musonza heard some voices outside and quickly put on his clothes, thereby forgetting to wear his underwear.
As it turned out, Constables Matare and Muchiri were investigating a kidnapping case that had been reported by the minor’s mother.
They forced the door open and discovered two pairs of underwear on the floor.
The minor’s underwear and shorts were soiled with semen. When the police asked what had happened, the minor spilled the beans.
By Wilbert Mukori- One of the biggest Zimbabwe foreign policy blunders the British government has ever made in the last decade was to believe Mnangagwa’s foolish rhetoric that Zimbabwe had changed for the better following the November 2017 military coup.
The British believed village idiots like Professor Stephen Chan that Mnangagwa deserve a chance to prove himself.
Well; three years on, Mnangagwa has proven beyond all reasonable doubt that he is the same corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous tyrant he was during Mugabe days. A leopard will roll in elephant dung to hide its scent, it does not lose its spots too.
The British government should have listened to then Labour MP Kate Hoey who condemned Mnangagwa and his regime for blatantly rigging the July 2018 elections and recommended that the regime should receive no support. It is refreshing to see that the British government has finally come to its senses.
“The Sanctions and Anti-Money Laundering Act 2018 now provides the legal basis for the UK to impose autonomous sanctions, and we are in the process of considering our approach to the future sanctions regime in Zimbabwe,” said UK Minister of State for Overseas Territories and Sustainable Development Baroness Elizabeth Sugg.
Baroness Sugg was responding to a question raised by British MP and former anti-apartheid campaigner, Lord Peter Hain who asked what specific steps the UK government was taking to sanction Zimbabwe for gross human rights abuses.
40 years of Zanu PF corrupt and tyrannical rule have left Zimbabwe in economic ruins, basic services such as education and health have all but totally collapsed and millions of Zimbabweans now live in extreme poverty.
The corona virus pandemic has overlaid its own health and economic problems turning a tragic situation into a catastrophe of Biblical proportion. Zimbabwe is standing on the edge of the precipitous abyss.
40 years of corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship have dragged this nation to the edge of the abyss. Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies must now be stopped before they dragged the nation over the edge. All pressure must be brought to bear of Mnangagwa and company to accept the reality that economic situation in Zimbabwe is unsustainable, to accept the reality that Zanu PF dictatorship is the root cause of the economic meltdown and must therefore be dismantled.
Without meaningful democratic change, Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown will continue and drag the nation over the edge into the abyss. All pressure must therefore be brought to bear on Zanu PF to accept democratic and peaceful change now before it is too late. The targeted sanctions imposed by the west are a part of that cocktail of democratic pressure.
Of course, every thinking Zimbabwean welcomes the British government’s decision to renew the sanctions on Mnangagwa and his cronies. The alternative to peaceful pressure is the violent change brought about by street protests or worse. The consequences of violent change are death and destruction; no thinking person wants that!
The renewed sanctions must be a lot more than the token sanctions of the past to reflect the seriousness and urgency of the present situation. The sanctions must target the usual suspects but rope in new players too.
Sell-outs like Professor Mthuli Ncube and Minister Kirsty Coventry must be added to the sanctions list for working with the regime knowing fully well that it rigged the elections. And opposition leaders too must be included on the list for participating in flawed elections and thus giving the Zanu PF regime some modicum of legitimacy.
“We note, as deeply unfortunate, the implied threat of more sanctions from the UK and the assurance given to the Lords that such measures are currently under active consideration in London,” commented Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sibusiso Moyo.
“Equally unfortunate is the clear acknowledgement by the British government that it is actively engaging others, including the African Union, the European Union, the Commonwealth, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and South Africa with a view to further intensifying pressure upon Zimbabwe.”
Zanu PF must be left in no doubt that the party will not be allowed to get away with yet another rigged elections in 2023. AU and SADC turned a blind eye to rigged 2018 elections; the British government is right in making sure that SADC and AU do not make the same mistake ever again.
It is now over two years since the rigged July 2018 elections; Zanu PF has not implemented even one reform to ensure the 2023 elections are free, fair and credible. There is nothing to suggest the party has any intention of implementing any reforms. Zanu PF is determined to stay in power until 2023 and will go on to rig those elections.
Ideally, pressure must be brought to bear on Mnangagwa and company to step down a.s.a.p. so the country can appoint an interim administration that can bring order and sanity, end the economic and political chaos and mayhem and stop the nation taking the final step over the edge.
The interim administration will also be tasked to implement the democratic reforms to guarantee free, fair and credible elections; the pre-requisite first step back from the brink. Free and fair elections is Zimbabwe’s ticket out of this corrupt, tyrannical and dysfunctional dictatorship into a healthy and functional democracy.
If we cannot get Zanu PF to step down and get the democratic reforms implemented before the 2023 elections then we must make damn well sure the 2023 elections are declared null and void and a Zanu PF regime declared illegitimate.
The last thing Zimbabwe wants is a Zanu PF government beyond 2023; it will be the last push over the edge, if the nation has not tumbled over the edge already.
By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZimStat) has reported that the total cost of living in Zimbabwe continued on an upward trend in September.
The Agency observed that the consumption poverty line (TCPL) for a family of five rose to nearly ZWL$18 000 in September.
Zimstat also reported that the September 2020 food poverty line (FPL) for an average of five persons in Zimbabwe stood at $7 382 translating to a 2,4% increase $7 210 recorded in August. In a statement on Wednesday, the Agency said:
The TCPL for an average of five persons stood at $17 956,87 in September 2020. This means that an average household required that much to purchase food and non-food items for them not to be deemed poor. This represents an increase of 4,1% when compared to the August 2020 figure of $17 244,07.
The cost of living is sadly going up when workers are complaining that the salaries they are earning are very insignificant particularly in this inflationary economy.
Teachers who are reportedly earning around US$30 have refused to return to work since the re-opening of schools on 28 September this year.

By A Correspondent- Businessman Ali Muhamad has distanced himself from the alleged attempt by Zimbabwe Miners Federation president Henrietta Rushwaya to smuggle 6kg of gold out of the country on Monday.
Muhamad on Friday challenged his placement on remand saying he was not at the airport when Rushwaya was arrested but was at his home playing with his children. His lawyer Tinashe Robin Tanyanyiwa (Snr) told the court:
He was not at the airport and was not found with gold or any gold despite being subjected to three searches by three different teams of police officers from two different departments of the CID in a space of four days.
During the occurrence of these developments, he was at home playing with his children. If he was involved in smuggling, on the day in question when he was at home, what did he smuggle and where?
Tanyanyiwa argued that Ali was a legitimate businessman who buys and exports gold from Fidelity Printers with the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe paying him through off-shore accounts.
He said Ali was only implicated in the smuggling syndicate because he is simply a director in Ali Japan, with business interests in Tokyo, Geneva and Zimbabwe.
Rushwaya was arrested at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport with the gold haul on her way to Dubai.
Also arrested were security agents Stephen Chenjerai Tserai and Raphios Mufandauya and Gift Karanda on charges of smuggling and illegal possession of gold.
Harare magistrate Ngoni Nduna remanded Rushwaya, Ali, Tserai, Mufandauya and Karanda in custody to Monday.
Nduna is expected to make a ruling on Ali’s application to be removed from remand and the five bail applications.
Meanwhile, in another court, two police officers Douglas Shoko and Paul Chimungu were charged with criminal abuse of office stemming from the gold smuggling attempt.
Deputy Chief Magistrate Bianca Makwande also remanded the two in custody to Monday for bail application.-statemedia

By Israel Dube- The noisy ZANU PF Acting Spokesman, Patrick Chinamasa, has been exposed as one of top ZANU PF leaders and government Ministers involved in the smuggling of gold and diamonds worth billions of US dollars and externalisation of billions of US dollars hard cash.
His next weekly press conference should begin with confession and truth telling failure of which he must shut it down.
He must confess that him (Patrick Chinamasa), President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Vice President, Constantino Chiwenga, State Security Minister, Owen Mudah Ncube, Foreign Affairs Minister, Sibusiso Moyo, Mines Minister, Winston Chitando, Reserve Bank Governor, John Mangudya Business man, Kutakwashe Tagwirei (Mnangagwa’s business front man) and many others are corrupt international gold and diamond smugglers, also involved in hard cash externalisation using proxies.
And then tell the truth that the economic and political crisis in Zimbabwe is not caused by targeted sanctions but Shona culture of stealing and corruption imbedded in their DNA. And that the looting and plundering of the country’s resources is led by him and other international smugglers and thieves mentioned above.
Matabeles, the world and indeed the Zimbabweans cannot be fooled by thieving crooks like you and your comrades anymore.
Given the clear destructive acts of theft and corruption that have brought the country’s promising economy to its knees and caused political instability, we urge and implore the international community to intensify the sanctions and freeze all offshore accounts of all thieves mentioned above, their proxies, spouses, concubines and children.
Every stolen cent must be recovered and the corrupt looters masquerading as leaders must face justice for theft, corruption, racketeering and money laundering.

If fake qualifications can be found at the heart of The Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE), how about at all the other government institutions.
The system www.everify.org.zw is built and ready for implementation, the resistance we got from the academic institutions proves a point that is now in the public domain that some of those who are at the helm of government institutions do not possess the qualifications that they claim to have in fact they hold fake qualifications ,thus they resist and failed to see the importance of having a verification system as a country.
Having communicated with a lady who was in charge of verifying qualifications at the ministry of education, she advised me that she was fired after she exposed that 50% of qualifications submitted were fake.
For transparency sake the nation should be challenging those in positions of authority to make their qualifications public starting with the leadership of this great nation and moving down to the ministers, Permanent Secretaries, all head of parastatals, corporates, etc .
To put an end to these fake qualifications racket. We call on all academic institutions to ride on www.everify.co.zw a verification system and fake qualifications will be eradicated.
Mind you there is also faking of CVR documents, Drivers licences, Death Certificates,Passports the list is endless.
We need Information and Communication Technology (ICT) solutions to completely eradicate fake documentation and corruption in Zimbabwe’s economic sectors.
Last but not least, I would like to congratulate Daniel Nemukuyu for exposing this, others are being paid to stop exposing fake qualifications.
The truth is we all know someone who possess fake qualifications and we do not do a dame thing.
By A Correspondent- Dressed in a mini-skirt and blouse, Esther Kamupunga stood in semi-darkness waiting for men looking for sex the latest Zimbabwean to lose her job in a deepening economic crisis, worsened by the new coronavirus.
When the first COVID-19 case was detected in March, Zimbabwe rapidly went into lockdown, and the 24-year-old single mother and waitress was laid off in the eastern city of Mutare.
“Life was better until the advent of this coronavirus. Our business came to a standstill due to lockdown … unfortunately I was one of the people who were retrenched,” she said, shielding her face from passing car headlights.
“I have two children. I could not watch them going to bed without eating anything. I had no option but to follow some friends to this shopping centre,” she told the Thomson Reuters Foundation, declining to publish her real name.
The southern African nation is experiencing its worst economic crisis in a decade, with crippling hyperinflation, unemployment, strikes by public workers and shortages of food, medicine and foreign currency. Commercial sex workers and charities providing them with health care services said the number of women selling sex has increased, particularly young girls facing hunger at home.
“We have a lot of cases coming to us of girls who were now engaged in transactional sex because of the increase in the household poverty,” said Beatrice Savadye, director of Roots Africa, a local charity supporting young people.
Savadye said she received 350 reports of children having sex in exchange for money or gifts from March to June double the previous year in Mazowe, a mining town 40 km north of Harare.
Her charity has been giving food parcels to hungry families.
Ordinary Zimbabweans say life is difficult, with inflation above 700%, rocketing prices for basic goods, electricity and petrol, and lagging salaries prompting teachers to refuse to return to work without a pay rise last month.
“Hunger drives us into sex trade,” said Hazel Zemura, who has sold sex for a decade and works for Women Against All Forms of Discrimination, which runs health programmes for sex workers.
“As our incomes, like the cross border trading the importation of weaves and makeup kits from China for resale got eroded during the lockdown, we had to turn to men for survivor The latest government data shows 16% of Zimbabweans were unemployed in 2019, but many regard this as an underestimate. The lockdown, followed by a curfew in July, forced traders off the streets, while the closure of Zimbabwe’s borders for all non-essential travel cut off a lifeline for 1 million informal cross-border traders, said economist Victor Bhoroma.
“COVID-19 has exacerbated an already dire situation in terms of employment:’ the independent analyst said from the capital Harare, adding that about 6 million Zimbabweans who work in small businesses and informal trade were severely affected.
“The lockdowns in the tourism and hospitality sector, transport, aviation and leisure services, manufacturing, fast food and retailing and sports have resulted in massive retrenchments and layoffs in the last seven months,” he added.
Zimbabwe has recorded some 8,300 coronavirus cases and about 250 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University. Unprotected sex Coronavirus restrictions have made sex work riskier as women have been unable to get free condoms from their usual clinics and illegal brothels in residential areas and downtown nightclubs have closed.
“Some sex workers, because they do not have condoms, they would put a cloth up their vagina to prevent pregnancy and contracting HIV. After sex they would remove the cloth and wash it for reuse with another client,” said Savadye of Roots Africa.
But Zemura said some of her members chose not to use condoms because they can charge more.
“Unprotected sex pays more. So at times we have it despite the risks,” she said.
The closure of brothels has pushed sex workers into riskier places, like secluded fields and deserted buildings, said Charmaine Dube, programme coordinator for the sex worker rights group Pow Wow in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second largest city. Many brothels remain closed, although the easing of the curfew with people told to stay home from 8pm to 6am has allowed sex workers back on to the streets, she said.
Kamupunga, the ex-waitress, takes cients who pay for a “short time” to an open field, for which she charges about $2, although she is often pushed to accept half that.
“We lie on a cloth spread on top of the grass. It provides comfort suitable for a short time,” she said, adding that taking clients to her home known as “night” costs them about $10.
Although coronavirus infection rates are falling and most children have returned to school this month, many women fear they will not be able to return to their old jobs.
International borders have yet to reopen, forcing one former trader, who used to buy kitchen utensils and clothes in South Africa for resale locally, to keep selling her body to provide for herself and her child.
“Some goods are being illegally imported into the country but the bribes that traders pay to the police makes the business unprofitable:’ the 26-year-old said one night while waiting for men in the backyard of a closed nightclub.
“My daughter stays with my mother … I send money to them every month.”
She hopes to return to her old job when borders reopen in December. But Bhoroma, the economist, was sceptical. The economy still has challenges in terms of high inflation, foreign currency shortages, high costs of production and depressed local demand,” he said.-ThomsonReuters
By A Correspondent- Scores of disgruntled Zanu-PF supporters in Marondera on Tuesday night stormed the ruling party’s provincial party offices accusing their leaders of imposing candidates ahead of primaries for the Marondera Central by-election.
The supporters were protesting against alleged disqualification of Lawrence Katsiru, who is set to contest in the primary elections against longtime rival Cleopas Kundiona.
The Marondera Central seat fell vacant following the recall of MDC Alliance’s Caston Matewu by the Thokozani Khupe-led MDC-T.
A Zanu-PF official told NewsDay Weekender that the disgruntled party members were angry over reports that Katsiru’s CV had been tampered with by the vetting team in order to disqualify him.
“Most of the people who are here are against the imposition of candidates. It is rumoured that Katsiru’s CV was tampered with by the vetting team.
We are against the imposition of candidates in this province,” one official, who requested anonymity, said.
NewsDay Weekender is reliably informed that there is a faction pushing for Kundiona to go uncontested, but the move has since been met with resistance. Kundiona lost to Matewu in the 2018 general elections.

A source privy to the development alleged that the chief operations officer of higher education who lied that she was a holder of an Ordinary and Advanced level education including a tertiary institution qualification Florence Chimbumu was exposed and reportedly fired.
Said the source:
“She was a government official yet she is not a holder of the above mentioned qualifications. She had produced fake certificates. She is yet to be arrested but she was fired with immediate effect.”
Efforts to get a comment from Chimbumu was work in progress by the time of publishing.

An 80 year old man has appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court claimed to have set his dogs to lick his 31-year-old girlfriend’s privates in a bid to arouse her sexual feelings while he took photos of the appalling scenes.
At the same time, the 89 year old man has got the girlfriend to court accusing her of hiring a bogus soldier to block him from entering his premises.
Melody Chitambo and the ‘soldier’, Charles Mapfumo were in court after she took him to court accusing him of having let his dogs arouse her.
It was her allegations that Urs Joseph Ettillin would threaten to post the photos on social media if she refused to comply.
In the present case, the bogus soldier was charged with unlawful possession of army uniform and wearing it.
Ettillin dragged Chitambo to court accusing her of extortion.
The octogenarian said his girlfriend tried to extort money from him by placing a bogus soldier to deny him access to his home.
Chitambo appeared before Harare magistrate, Barbara Mateko who did not ask her to plead.
According to the state outline, earlier this month, Chitambo maliciously framed rape against Ettillin, who was subsequently taken to court and was granted bail.
It is state’s case that when he went back to his Highlands home after being freed, Chitambo then denied him access to the home.
Chitambo allegedly went ahead to hire Mapfumo as private security at her boyfriend’ house.
Court heard Mapfumo would wear army camouflage uniform while ‘on duty’.
Ettillin made several attempts to gain access to the house but was blocked by Mapfumo.
Mapfumo was arrested after he was seen by a team from military police putting on a green t-shirt inscribed ‘army’ and army black combat shoes.
According to the state, Mapfumo was employed under the strictest instructions he should block Ettillin from entering his home and to instil fear in him so that Matambo would enjoy complete ownership of the house.
Prosecutor Lovemore Siyamunda opposed bail which was however granted and pegged at $15 000.
Tanzania’s President John Magufuli has won re-election with a landslide victory in a poll that the opposition has described as fraudulent.
Mr Magufuli’s main rival, Tundu Lissu, has said his party’s agents were prevented from entering polling stations during Wednesday’s election.
The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has dismissed the claims of fraud.
In its final results, the NEC said the president took 84% of the vote, while Mr Lissu received 13%.
An observer mission from the East African Community said on Friday that the election was “conducted in a regular manner”.
On Thursday, Mr Lissu, who was the candidate for Chadema, said he would not accept the results saying the vote “was not an election by both Tanzanian and international laws. It was just a gang of people who have just decided to misuse state machinery to cling to power.”
He alleged that ballot boxes were tampered with while his party representatives were not present.
Magufuli was first elected in 2015 The US embassy in Dar es Salaam said that “irregularities and the overwhelming margins of victory raise serious doubts about the credibility of the results… as well as concerns about the government of Tanzania’s commitment to democratic values”.
The head of the National Electoral Commission, Semistocles Kaijage, said allegations of fake ballot papers were unsubstantiated.
As well as taking part in the Tanzanian elections, voters on the semi-autonomous archipelago of Zanzibar were also electing their own president, and the CCM candidate Hussein Mwinyi has been declared the winner with 76% of the votes.
His main rival, Maalim Seif Sharif of ACT-Wazalendo, got 19% – his biggest defeat in any presidential election he has taken part in.
On Thursday, Mr Seif Sharif was arrested shortly after saying that the polls had been rigged and calling for mass protests. He was later released on bail.

The arts fraternity in Bulawayo has gathered to pay their last respects to renowned artist in the city Iyasa founding and longest serving member, Sibonisiwe Sithole, who died in Bulawayo on Thursday morning.
It is reported that she complained of chest pains on Wednesday and was rushed to hospital, firstly at Mpilo Central Hospital and then to United Bulawayo Hospitals where she died on Thursday morning.
Speaking on her death, Iyasa posted on their social media pages saying Bonnie’s name would forever be engraved in their hearts.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the sad passing on of our founding member and brilliant dancer/singer Sibonisiwe Sithole. She played a huge role to build this institution and was an inspiration to a number of our current crop of stars. Bonnie is part of the early 2000 crew that brought in hits and changed the game.
“Your name is forever engraved in our hearts. We extend our deepest sympathies to the Sithole family and friends at this difficult time. May her Soul Rest In Peace. Gone too soon Special Star,” wrote Iyasa.
Known as Bonnie Bonnie or Queen Bonnie the Original, Sithole served Iyasa from its inception in 2000 when she joined the likes of Sandra Ndebele, Nomathamsanqa “Nkwali” Mkhwananzi, Roben Mlauzi and Futurelove Sibanda.

“I am one of the most privileged citizens to serve this country in different capacities,” said Major General (Rtd) Zimondi.
“My special thanks go to His Excellency President Mnangagwa for his guidance right from my days with ZNA to ZPCS.
“I will continue to avail myself sharing ideas whenever necessary for the good of ZPCS and the nation,” he said.
Commissioner General Zimondi is handing over the reins to Commissioner-General Moses Chihobvu.

School teachers in Zimbabwe could soon call off their job action if authorities accept their revised demand of monthly salaries of at least US$360.
This comes after teacher representatives met President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday.
Another round of stakeholder meetings is lined up, with the National Joint Negotiating Council scheduled to convene next week. Government is expected to table an “improved offer” at that interface.
The teachers pled “incapacitation” when schools opened last September and have been clamouring for a US$500 base salary. Though undeclared, their failure to report for duty has widely been viewed as a strike with potential to encumber public examinations.
Their revised demand has ignited optimism in education circles that parties will find common ground.
An internal memo seen by ZTN gives the strongest indication that they are angling for at least US$360 per month.
Zimbabwe Teachers Association chief executive Dr Sifiso Ndlovu was confident of breakthrough when ZTN spoke to him. “We are expecting significant movement,” said Dr Ndlovu.
“We need to urgently address the issue of opening of schools. We must allow educators to go and do what they love best, which is teaching. The children are longing to learn. “So, we are expecting something that will bring about that transformation. We hope there will be a meeting of minds.” Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Professor Paul Mavima said Government will table an “improved offer”.
“There is going to be a new Government position, but we cannot give details as yet. I am glad that the meeting is now taking place and I hope that Government and civil servants will find common ground.”
Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions secretary-general David Dzatsunga quipped: “…it’s difficult to say what we expect. We are just going there to hear what the Government is offering.
“We hope that they have an offer that is acceptable to the generality of the Civil Service.”

TWO children were killed in Buhera on Thursday and three others were seriously injured while playing with a metal “rocket-shaped” object that exploded.
Buhera South legislator Joseph Chinotimba said the children intended to sell the object to local school teachers who are in the business of buying and selling scrap metal.
Five-year-old cousins Ozil Chipadza and Tivakudzeishe Chipadza of Chipadza village under Chief Nyashanu, died on the spot while Dessy Chipadza (10), Listen Muforo (11) and Isabel Muzombi (10) were seriously injured.
A similar metal object was yesterday found in the same village and police safely secured it to allow explosives experts from the military to ascertain its type and to compile a report on the blast.
Even 40 years after the liberation war ended, odd pieces of ordinance are still occasionally discovered every now and then and kill when handled.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said on Thursday morning, “Tracey Murove (40), sent her daughter Dessy to drive home their goats and along the way, Dessy picked an unidentified object with a rocket shape and brought it home.
“She went to fetch water from a nearby well in the company of Listen and Isabel. In the afternoon, Ozil and Tivakudze started playing with the object around the yard and their mother ordered them to throw the object away. As the children took the object away, it exploded, prompting the mother to rush outside to investigate. She saw the body of Tivakudzeishe with one leg dismembered. A few metres away, Ozil’s body was also found.”
Asst Comm Nyathi said the survivors — Listen, Dessy and Isabel — were found lying on the ground, bleeding profusely. “The bodies were taken to Murambinda Hospital mortuary while the injured were rushed to Birchenough Bridge Hospital.
“It is a sad incident and we urge parents and guardians to educate children not to pick and play with suspicious objects which they would have come across. Investigations into the incident are being conducted.”
Chinotimba said police secured the second object which was found by villagers.
“There are reports that one of the teachers at Murove Primary School had asked children to bring scrap metal for a fee.”
Chinotimba said he had since assisted the bereaved families with food for the funerals.
He appealed to parents and guardians to report to police any unknown and suspicious objects.
In a related incident, a Banket man was injured and lost property when a metal object, suspected to be from a rocket launcher, exploded. He was trying to cut it into smaller pieces after picking it up in the bush.
“The man did not realise that it was an explosive and decided to break it for scrap metal. The public is warned against tampering with objects which they are not familiar with as this may put their lives and that of others in danger,” Ass Comm Nyathi said.
A Zvishavane teacher has died in the least expected form for a qualified professional after he accidentally fell headlong in a mine tunnel, as he tried to use a manual hoist to lower a colleague underground, where they were panning for gold.
Pesanai Chiresve had abandoned classes at the nearby Gorge Chipadze Secondary School in search of the precious mineral together with colleagues Tafadzwa Makasi, Aneas Makaya and Celopas Gumbo, when he met his fate.
Thousands of teachers have recently left classrooms unattended as they go out into various informal economy activities to fend for money to feed their families as their salaries get eroded by the economy everyday.
Most have been found in illegal gold mining fields with some vending in the streets of most cities.
Makasi, who was being lowered underground using a tin tied to a rope, is said to be recuperating at Zvishavane District Hospital after sustaining fractures.
National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said the incident occurred on Thursday morning near Dadaya High School on the outskirts of Zvishavane.
“Police are investigating a case in which one Mr Pesanai Chiresve who was a teacher at George Chipadze Secondary School in Zvishavane died after he lost control of a hoist he was using to lower a colleague at a mine where they were illegally panning for gold,” he said. “He lost footing and fell headlong into the mine tunnel.”
Asst-Comm Nyathi said police attended the scene and Chiresve’s body was retrieved and taken to Zvishavane District Hospital mortuary.
According to witnesses, Chiresve, together with his colleagues, left school on Wednesday morning to embark on illegal mining.
The teachers had approached the owner of a mining claim seeking permission to pan for gold.
They then teamed up and went into the mine using a tunnel.
Chiresve will be buried at his rural home in Chivi today.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has officially ceded his Gukurahundi victims reburials programme to the National Council of Chiefs under the chairmanship of Chief Fortune Charumbira besides the issue being part of the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission agenda and strategic plan.
The move is likely to raise a storm amongst Matabeleland activists who have been demanding to have localised solutions to the Gukurahundi issues especially the reburials.
The endorsement was made during a meeting between the National Council of Chiefs and President Mnangagwa at State House in Bulawayo.
The meeting was a follow-up to previous ones held between chiefs and President Mnangagwa, the last one being a consultative engagement at the same venue between the Head of State and chiefs from Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South last Saturday.
In the last meeting, it was resolved that traditional leaders will now take over the exhumation and reburials of victims of Gukurahundi in Matabeleland and Midlands while the Government will be involved in funding the process as part of initiatives meant to address the issue and promote national healing.
Giving a brief after the closed-door meeting which was also attended by Cabinet ministers and senior Government officials, yesterday evening, Local Government and Public Works Minister July Moyo said National Council of Chiefs president, Chief Fortune Charumbira reported on the breakthrough with regards to finding a resolution to Gukurahundi.
“The president of the Chiefs Council briefed the meeting on the outcome of the deliberations from an earlier meeting of National Council of Chiefs. He noted that traditional leaders had made a major breakthrough with respect to issues of Gukurahundi. All the 36 members endorsed the initiative of traditional leaders taking leadership in resolving issues of Gukurahundi,” said Minister Moyo.
He said it was further resolved that chiefs will work out their methodology within their respective areas of jurisdiction, agree on the methodology which is suitable to their communities and that the methodology should include all stakeholders.
He said in response, President Mnangagwa acknowledged yesterday’s meeting as a culmination of the process that was initiated by Matabeleland Collective, a grouping of non-governmental and church organisations from the region.
“It was in that process that the role of the chiefs was espoused leading today’s collective position taken by the chiefs which puts the chiefs at the centre of the resolution of Gukurahundi,” said Minister Moyo.
“His Excellency mentioned that Gukurahundi was now an open issue which can now be discussed freely.”

Impressive death bowling from Shaheen Afridi and Wahab Riaz helped Pakistan secure a 26-run victory over Zimbabwe in the first ODI in Rawalpindi.
Despite a record-breaking century from Brendan Taylor, Zimbabwe could only muster 255 in their pursuit of Pakistan’s 281/8. This meant that the hosts secured 10 points in their first Cricket World Cup Super League fixture.
Batting first, Imam-ul-Haq knocked a steady 58 for the home team before he was run out in a mix-up with Haris Sohail, with Pakistan at 119/3 just after the halfway point. However, Haris made amends by holding the fort at one end, scoring an impressive 71 before falling to Sikandar Raza in the 41st over.
At 205/6, Imad Wasim (34*) and Faheem Ashraf (23) upped the scoring rate to help the home team finish on a respectable 281/8 from their allotted overs. Blessing Muzarabani (2/39 in eight) and Tendai Chisoro (2/31 in five) were the pick of the Zimbabwe bowlers.

POLICE in Zimbabwe say they have arrested a man in connection to the hit and run accident which led to the death of Zimbabwe rap king Cal Vin.
Cal Vin was reportedly run over by a white Mazda Familia car just a few metres away from his home of Luveve 5 after watching football at Emakhandeni Cricket Club.
In a tweet, Police said the suspect handed himself over to them on Wednesday.
“On 28/10/20 Police in Bulawayo arrested one suspect in connection with the fatal hit and run accident which led to the death of musician Calvin Nhliziyo. The suspect handed himself over to the police on 28/10/20.”
THE chief operations officer of the regulator that supervises higher education, the Zimbabwe Council of Higher Education (Zimche), had just one O Level pass although reportedly produced fake certificates saying she had five O Levels plus tertiary qualifications.
The embarrassed education quality regulator and Mrs Florence Chimbumu have now parted company, although it is unknown if she resigned or was fired, after Zimche found via Zimsec that she had just one O Level and the Higher Examination Council (Hexco) dismissed her tertiary qualifications as fake. She was caught out by the Zimche internal auditor who did the checks normally done before hiring by human resources officers.
An internal memorandum circulated at Zimche informing other staff of Mrs Chimbumu’s departure was vague and only stated she was no longer on the staff.

Zimche has since reported the fraud to Borrowdale Police Station under RRB 458 9132/2020 and investigations are underway.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed receiving the report, saying the suspect had not yet been arrested.
“I can confirm that a police report was made to the effect that the suspect used fake or doctored educational qualifications to get a job.
“We are currently investigating a case of suspected fraud although the suspect has not yet been picked up,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.
Zimche internal auditor Mr Takwana Mangwende, who noticed the anomalies and verified with Zimsec and Hexco, was summoned to Borrowdale Police Station to assist with investigations.

“I cannot comment on an individual because we are carrying out a skills audit to ensure quality control in the ministry. All employees are being audited and we will release a comprehensive report once we are done with the exercise,” said Prof Murwira.
Sources at Zimche said Mrs Chimbumu’s case came to light when the internal audit department recently asked all staff to submit copies of their academic and professional qualifications.
“The internal auditor, Mr Mangwende, asked all of us to submit copies of our educational and professional certificates for vetting. During that exercise, the auditors noticed some anomalies on Mrs Chimbumu’s qualifications before sending the Ordinary Level certificate for verification at Zimsec.
“Another suspicious Hexco qualification was also sent for verification and both papers turned out to be fake,” said the source.
A Zimche committee on risk and audit recommended criminal investigations.
Sources said Mrs Chimbumu panicked and tendered her resignation letter to Zimche but the human resources department, after consultation with legal experts, went on to suspend her. In a sudden turn of events, she finally left the organisation yesterday.
Zimche chief executive Professor Kuzvinetsa Dzvimbo refused to comment on the issue and referred the writer to the organisation’s human resources director Mrs Nyakurerwa.

Health and Child Care Minister Constantino Chiwenga
Cuba is set to increase the number of medical doctors operating in Zimbabwe on a Government-to-Government arrangement, a development that is expected to deepen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Cuba’s ambassador to Zimbabwe, Carmelina Ramirez Rodriguez, said more doctors, including specialists, are expected in Zimbabwe once discussions between the two countries were concluded.
Ambassador Rodriguez said this while briefing journalists soon after meeting Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, who is also Minister of Health and Child Care, at his Munhumutapa offices.
“Today we came to meet the Vice President in his capacity as Minister of Health and Child Care, as you know we have a cooperation agreement in the medical field where we have doctors in Zimbabwe,” she said. “We intend to increase the cooperation by raising the number of the medical profession and in different specialities.
“Now we have 32 senior doctors in different provinces. We have Bulawayo Mutare, Chinhoyi, Harare.”
Asked how many medical doctors they will deploy, Ambassador Rodriguez said they were still discussing those requirements with the Zimbabwean Government.
“It is up to Zimbabwe, but Cuba is always open to help Zimbabwe and to increase that cooperation,” she said.
She said the discussion with VP Chiwenga centred on the higher and tertiary education sector, where Cuba has professors working as lecturers at Bindura University of Science Education “We also talked about cooperation in education, particularly about Bindura University,” said Ambassador Rodriguez. “We need to increase professors at Bindura University, we have looked at the possibilities to increase the number of professors.”
Turning to challenges, Ambassador Rodriguez said the language barrier had always been an impediment during the initial stage of deployment as most Cubans did not speak English, but Spanish.
“But when they leave after the end of their tour of duty, they will be able to speak good English and Shona, the other one is to integrate the Zimbabwean culture,” she said.
She said Harare and Havana enjoyed deep-rooted relations, which dated back to Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle.
When she met Senate president Cde Mabel Chinomona last year, Ambassador Rodriguez called for stronger ties between Zimbabwe and Cuba.
Zimbabwe and Cuba share a common history, with both countries reeling under unjustified United States sanctions, which seek to influence global politics either through war or other punitive measures.
Ever since revolutionary icon and extraordinary political figure Fidel Castro launched the Cuban medical doctor diplomacy soon after 1959, the Caribbean island nation has used this as a major source of diplomatic soft power and pride.

Goverment has finally conceded that the troubled National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) is on the verge of a total collapse.
Transport and Infrastructure Development minister Joel Biggie Matiza revealed that the once very viable state entity has accumulated a huge debt which has left it on the verge of collapse.
Speaking at the commissioning of the company’s museum as a National Tourism Development site in Bulawayo Friday, Matiza pleaded with President Emmerson Mnangagwa to bail out the company.
“Your Excellency, government is aware of the NRZ’s Achilles heel at the moment which has hindered its efforts to attract capital both long term and short term.
“This burden is its huge debt which has literally put the organisation in the insolvency category.
“We appeal to government to instil confidence in the NRZ again with a total debt assumption to ensure the organisation refocuses on a boom trajectory,” said Matiza.
“NRZ has accumulated huge debt mainly due to decreased capacity levels which have seen the organisation retrenching its workforce and witness a sharp reduction in tonnages from a high of at least 14 million tonnes in 1998 to an average of 2,7 million tonnes annually.
“At present day, the entire railway industry in the country needs concerted rehabilitation and overhaul programme to bring back the parastatal,” he said.
Matiza said the NRZ new management has requested government to support the company to acquire 41 locomotives, 300 wagons and 300 coaches so as to improve the parastatal’s capacity to break even.
The NRZ believes if government supported its initiative especially around commuter and intercity trains, it could find ways of breaking even especially balancing the resources vis-à-vis the service.
“We request government to support the passenger train service project with 300 state of the art coaches which can signal our drive towards government’s vision 2030 expectations,” he said.

Ali Mohammed, who was bundled into Henrietta Rushwaya’s gold smuggling case and was arrested over it has denied any links with the embattled Zimbabwe Miners Federation president.
Making his initial court appearance, Mohammed said he was a registered gold dealer claiming that all his operations were above board and only dealt with government’s Fidelity Printers.
Rushwaya was buste at the RGM Airport while attempting to smuggle 6kg of gold to Dubai and implicated Mohammed as the owner of the loot.
Mohammed lawyer Tanyanyiwa said Friday, “None of the accused persons implicated Mohammed and nothing was recovered from him linked to the offence despite several searches.
“My client buys gold for Fidelity Printers and exports it for the same, how could he smuggle it with such a legitimate business!”
The State, through Prosecutor Garudzo Ziyadhuma, applied for placement of the accused on remand indicating that he had a plan with Rushwaya to smuggle gold to Dubai without acquiring the licence to do so.
He said Mohammed is one of the holders of the permit in question and documents produced by Rushwaya at the airport showed Mohammed originated a commercial invoice purporting that the ex-ZIFA boss had signed an agreement with his Dubai based company in the business of gold trading.
“The invoice gives the impression that Rushwaya had been despatched from Zimbabwe to Dubai, to deliver the gold. It reflects that there is a contract between Rushwaya and the company,” said Ziyadhuma.
But Mohammed’s lawyer said his client was never found in possession of gold, hence could not be accused of any smuggling.
“Mohammed was not present at the airport, neither was he found in possession of any gold despite being subjected to three searches by three different police departments in a space of four days,” he said.
The lawyer said the fact that his name was written does not mean that he was also involved in the scandal.
He also complained that the state refused to show the defence the commercial invoice found with Rushwaya.

Scores of disgruntled Zanu PF supporters in Marondera on Tuesday night stormed the ruling party’s provincial party offices accusing their leaders of imposing candidates ahead of primaries for the Marondera Central by-election.
The supporters were protesting against alleged disqualification of Lawrence Katsiru, who is set to contest in the primary elections against long-time rival Cleopas Kundiona.
The Marondera Central seat fell vacant following the recall of MDC Alliance’s Caston Matewu by the Thokozani Khupe-led MDC-T.
A Zanu PF official told NewsDay Weekender that the disgruntled party members were angry over reports that Katsiru’s CV had been tampered with by the vetting team in order to disqualify him.
“Most of the people who are here are against the imposition of candidates. It is rumoured that Katsiru’s CV was tampered with by the vetting team. We are against the imposition of candidates in this province,” one official, who requested anonmyty, said.

Opposition Transform Zimbabwe leaderJacob Ngarivhume’s visit to Chimanimani this week has exposed government lies and unfulfilled promises after he witnessed deplorable living conditions of victims of the Cyclone Idai which hit Zimbabwe almost two years ago.
The cyclone idai victims are still living in tents despite government commitment to build houses for them.
Posting on Twitter, Ngarivhume said the situation is terrible questioning how government used donations made by development agents towards supporting cyclone idai victims.
“In the last 48hrs, I was in Chimanimani were I saw first hand the state of living of the Cyclone Idai survivors. Mnangagwa is on record confirming that he received hard currency to help the people, yet he has done nothing. Where did the money go? The situation is terrible,” said Ngarivhume.

The British believed village idiots like Professor Stephen Chan that Mnangagwa deserve a chance to prove himself.
Well; three years on, Mnangagwa has proven beyond all reasonable doubt that he is the same corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous tyrant he was during Mugabe days. A leopard will roll in elephant dung to hide its scent, it does not lose its spots too.
The British government should have listened to then Labour MP Kate Hoey who condemned Mnangagwa and his regime for blatantly rigging the July 2018 elections and recommended that the regime should receive no support. It is refreshing to see that the British government has finally come to its senses.
“The Sanctions and Anti-Money Laundering Act 2018 now provides the legal basis for the UK to impose autonomous sanctions, and we are in the process of considering our approach to the future sanctions regime in Zimbabwe,” said UK Minister of State for Overseas Territories and Sustainable Development Baroness Elizabeth Sugg.
Baroness Sugg was responding to a question raised by British MP and former anti-apartheid campaigner, Lord Peter Hain who asked what specific steps the UK government was taking to sanction Zimbabwe for gross human rights abuses.
40 years of Zanu PF corrupt and tyrannical rule have left Zimbabwe in economic ruins, basic services such as education and health have all but totally collapsed and millions of Zimbabweans now live in extreme poverty. The corona virus pandemic has overlaid its own health and economic problems turning a tragic situation into a catastrophe of Biblical proportion. Zimbabwe is standing on the edge of the precipitous abyss.
40 years of corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship have dragged this nation to the edge of the abyss. Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies must now be stopped before they dragged the nation over the edge. All pressure must be brought to bear of Mnangagwa and company to accept the reality that economic situation in Zimbabwe is unsustainable, to accept the reality that Zanu PF dictatorship is the root cause of the economic meltdown and must therefore be dismantled.
Without meaningful democratic change, Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown will continue and drag the nation over the edge into the abyss. All pressure must therefore be brought to bear on Zanu PF to accept democratic and peaceful change now before it is too late. The targeted sanctions imposed by the west are a part of that cocktail of democratic pressure.
Of course, every thinking Zimbabwean welcomes the British government’s decision to renew the sanctions on Mnangagwa and his cronies. The alternative to peaceful pressure is the violent change brought about by street protests or worse. The consequences of violent change are death and destruction; no thinking person wants that!
The renewed sanctions must be a lot more than the token sanctions of the past to reflect the seriousness and urgency of the present situation. The sanctions must target the usual suspects but rope in new players too.
Sell-outs like Professor Mthuli Ncube and Minister Kirsty Coventry must be added to the sanctions list for working with the regime knowing fully well that it rigged the elections. And opposition leaders too must be included on the list for participating in flawed elections and thus giving the Zanu PF regime some modicum of legitimacy.
“We note, as deeply unfortunate, the implied threat of more sanctions from the UK and the assurance given to the Lords that such measures are currently under active consideration in London,” commented Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sibusiso Moyo.
“Equally unfortunate is the clear acknowledgement by the British government that it is actively engaging others, including the African Union, the European Union, the Commonwealth, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and South Africa with a view to further intensifying pressure upon Zimbabwe.”
Zanu PF must be left in no doubt that the party will not be allowed to get away with yet another rigged elections in 2023. AU and SADC turned a blind eye to rigged 2018 elections; the British government is right in making sure that SADC and AU do not make the same mistake ever again.
It is now over two years since the rigged July 2018 elections; Zanu PF has not implemented even one reform to ensure the 2023 elections are free, fair and credible. There is nothing to suggest the party has any intention of implementing any reforms. Zanu PF is determined to stay in power until 2023 and will go on to rig those elections.
Ideally, pressure must be brought to bear on Mnangagwa and company to step down a.s.a.p. so the country can appoint an interim administration that can bring order and sanity, end the economic and political chaos and mayhem and stop the nation taking the final step over the edge.
The interim administration will also be tasked to implement the democratic reforms to guarantee free, fair and credible elections; the pre-requisite first step back from the brink. Free and fair elections is Zimbabwe’s ticket out of this corrupt, tyrannical and dysfunctional dictatorship into a healthy and functional democracy.
If we cannot get Zanu PF to step down and get the democratic reforms implemented before the 2023 elections then we must make damn well sure the 2023 elections are declared null and void and a Zanu PF regime declared illegitimate. Mdc Alliance Namibia lauds the illegally suspended Justice Ndewere and the resolute judges who unravelled incontrovertible evidence of the state capture of the judiciary system through an affidavit and a petition undersigned by diverse judges, written to Mr Munangagwa, citing Chief Justice Malaba as the threat to justice in Zimbabwe. It has been brought to the attention of those who were still doubting the weaponisation of the law by clueless Zanupf to settle political scores. The grieving judges made it clear that the capture of the courts is not a fabrication or trumped-up story, it is in fact the veracity.Our Judges are operating with extreme terror and trepidation given the current phobia which exists within the judiciary.
It is imperative for all social democrats to gear up towards earnestly requesting a fresh hearing of 2018 July rigged elections petition without the biased and partisan Malaba.
We also demand new court hearing for the case which robbed Mdc Alliance of its MPs who were unconstitutionally recalled by the Zanupf surrogates exploiting the captured courts.
Mdc Alliance Namibia advocates for the enactment of an objective and independent panel to investigate how the Chief Justice routinely interferes with Magistrates and their legal opinions through the Chief Magistrates’ office. The compromised Malaba must step down together with all tainted and corrupt judges.
Moreover, in the petition, the judges noted that elevation destitute of questioning and evaluation of superior personnel within the Judicial Service Commission implies that complaints fall on deaf ears as high-ranking ineligible officers of court are there to shield their jobs and the brawny or powerful perks that go with their handsome jobs. It is quite pathetic to learn that judges no longer trust their ancillary service providers as they are compelled to conceal their legal opinions for fear of being directed to alter these by the Zanupf official disguised as an officer of the court. Chief justice Malaba was incriminated in the affidavit by Justice Ndewere. He tried in vain to frog-march the patriotic Judge to deny bail to Job SaroWiwa Sikhala, the vibrant Mdc Alliance Vice-Chairperson and Prisca Mupfumira.
Moreso , he was sombrely throwing a monkey wrench in the autonomous Judges on the election petition from the People’s President Advocate Nelson Chamisa after a historic rigged election in 2018. The fact that the Chief Justice can tell the individualistic judges to change their sagaciousness must be confronted with equal measure. Zanupf must immediately stop their manipulation of the law using partisan judges, as Mdc Alliance Namibia, we advocate for sound judgements that come from commutative and self-governing judges.
Furthermore, the judges also unearthed what the Zanupf Chief Justice calls “judgement by consensus”, a euphemism for dissuading contentious judicial decisions. Basically, the Chief Justice has the final say on the Supreme and Constitutional Court judgements that are released giving him the evil power powers to victimise inferiors. These courts are therefore the Chief Justice’s courts where no judge has the effrontery to disaccord with him for fear of chastisement. There are also multitudinous direct battle royal of interest issues that we see every now and then in the judiciary system. It is this apparent capture of the courts that is being enjoyed by Zanupf surrogates led by Khupe and Mwonzora who decided to surrender the freedom project to Zanupf Satanists. They are also the obvious failures where like is not treated with like. A complainant against Justice has been granted permission to discharge and it is clear that Chief Justice sent a personal emmisary to him schooling him on how to respond, this is clear judicial rot that needs imminent confrontation from genuine social democrats who subscribe to Constitutional Democracy. Harare West MP Joana Mamombe should be removed from parliament because she is “mentally disordered”, a Zanu PF MP demanded during a debate in the National Assembly on Thursday.
The 27-year-old was abducted from a police station by state agents in May and tortured for two days with two other female MDC Alliance officials. They were dumped in Bindura after suffering horrific sexual abuse and trauma.
Police have however accused Mamombe, Cecelia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova of faking their abduction. Their trial on charges of faking an abduction has been delayed after two of three state doctors who examined Mamombe told a court that she was suffering anxiety attacks which made her unfit to stand trial.
Mberengwa North MP Tafanana Zhou urged the Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda to begin a process of removing Mamombe as a member of Parliament.
“Our national constitution, Section 129 (1)(m) states that, ‘The seat of a Member of Parliament becomes vacant if the Member is certified to be mentally disordered or intellectually handicapped under any law in force in Zimbabwe.’ Honourable Joana Mamombe was certified as mentally ill by two government doctors. I therefore ask that a Privileges Committee be set up to look into the matter,” Zhou said.
Mudenda said parliament should be “cautious in proceeding” because the matter was still in the courts.
“We should be able to get an official response from the judiciary and the doctor’s reports accordingly and compare with whosoever is the sponsor (political party) of the Hon. Member,” Mudenda said.
“However, because the matter is still with our courts and the courts have not pronounced themselves as to the results of the medical findings, we shall have to be cautious in proceeding accordingly until such time that the matter has been fully ventilated by the courts.”

Joe Biden took a different approach. He invited Zwelibanzi Moyo-Williams and Leonardo Williams, the owners of Zweli’s Kitchen, which is thought to be the only Zimbabwean restaurant in the US.
They were contacted the day before the event by a Biden staffer, who asked them how fast they could make their way to Nashville. They live in Durham, North Carolina, so they rented a car and drove overnight to get there.
“It was surreal,” Moyo-Williams told the Mail & Guardian. “We were sitting with his wife, Dr Jill, and his granddaughter, and we had some really nice conversations with them.”
Moyo-Williams grew up in Bulawayo, but moved to the United States 20 years ago to study hospitality and tourism. She met her husband, Leonardo, at college, and they created a happy life together. But there was always something missing — it was the taste of home.
“I missed home. Growing up back home in Zimbabwe, I used to love to cook a lot. Traditional food. When I came to this country it was so difficult for me to try to explain the flavours to people. Every time I would make food for someone, they were uncomfortable with it. They were uncomfortable seeing me eat sadza with my hands. But when they tried it they really liked it,” she said.
In 2018, the couple opened Zweli’s Kitchen, serving southern African classics such as peri-peri chicken, oxtail stew, magwinya and chakalaka. Boerewors, made specially for them by a Zimbabwean who owns a butchery in rural North Carolina, is a big hit. It sells for $16 (R260), with two side orders.
The restaurant received rave reviews in the local newspaper, the News & Observer. It noted the similarity between southern African cuisine and comfort food from America’s Deep South, which is closely linked to the African American community.
In January this year, disaster struck the Durham neighbourhood where the restaurant is located. A spate of mysterious illnesses in a public housing complex was traced to increased levels of carbon monoxide, and the complex was evacuated overnight. Suddenly, more than 700 people were homeless — and they needed to eat. “We own a restaurant,” explained Leonardo Williams.
“So we used our restaurant to feed the community.” Over the course of several weeks, they served 47 000 meals to families in desperate need.
It was this community service that attracted the attention of the Biden campaign.
The couple has urged their community to vote in the upcoming election, regardless of who they are voting for.
By Jane Mlambo| Zanu PF members on social media have sided with musician Jah Prayzah in the ongoing debate sparked by journalist Hopewell Chin’ono who accused the ‘kutonga kwaro’ hit maker of not doing enough to condemn government excesses.
The debate which dominated social media yesterday saw people taking sides with some feeling Chin’ono was bullying Jah Prayzah by forcing him to take a particular route with his music while some felt the lanky crooner was failing society unlike his counterparts in other parts of the world who openly condemned injustices through their music.
Chin’ono gave an example of the late music hero Oliver Mtukudzi whom he said had a catalog of songs that spoke about wrong things being done by government while Thomas Mapfumo was undisputably a master at protest music.
As the debate unfolded, Zanu PF members could not stand on the sidelines, joining in the discussion and urging Jah Prayzah to disregard Chin’ono’s pressure.
One such person is Jones Musara who urged Jah Prayzah to sing what he likes without being pressured.
“Music is your forte JP. Keep singing zvaunoda. You cant please everyone!,” said Musara.
Former Zanu PF youth secretary, Lewis Matutu also joined in saying musicians should not be reduced to partisan tools.
“Our artists must never be reduced to political tools or even forced to support any political narrative. JP isn’t interested in politics even if others would want to suggest otherwise and l think it’s only fair for Zimbabweans particularly Hopewell to respect his space. It is also wrong for politicians to create unnecessary divisions and hatred among Zimbabwean artists and celebrities simply because they are not interested in bad politics,” said Matutu.
Through its official Twitter account, Zanu PF Patriots, the party urged Jah Prayzah to be strong in the face of increasing pressure.

The rally will be held in ward 11, Zaka North Constituency.
Senior party officials are expected to address the rally.
“Tomorrow we will be in Zaka North Constituency for our Youth Assembly rally.
We will not say much at this juncture but everything is in place.
Our aim is to strengthen our support base in the rural areas.

TWO children were killed in Buhera on Thursday and three others were seriously injured while playing with a metal “rocket-shaped” object that exploded.
Five-year-old cousins Ozil Chipadza and Tivakudzeishe Chipadza of Chipadza village under Chief Nyashanu, died on the spot while Dessy Chipadza (10), Listen Muforo (11) and Isabel Muzombi (10) were seriously injured.
A similar metal object was yesterday found in the same village and police safely secured it to allow explosives experts from the military to ascertain its type and to compile a report on the blast.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said on Thursday morning, “Tracey Murove (40), sent her daughter Dessy to drive home their goats and along the way, Dessy picked an unidentified object with a rocket shape and brought it home.
“She went to fetch water from a nearby well in the company of Listen and Isabel. In the afternoon, Ozil and Tivakudze started playing with the object around the yard and their mother ordered them to throw the object away. As the children took the object away, it exploded, prompting the mother to rush outside to investigate. She saw the body of Tivakudzeishe with one leg dismembered. A few metres away, Ozil’s body was also found.”
Asst Comm Nyathi said the survivors — Listen, Dessy and Isabel — were found lying on the ground, bleeding profusely. “The bodies were taken to Murambinda Hospital mortuary while the injured were rushed to Birchenough Bridge Hospital.
“It is a sad incident and we urge parents and guardians to educate children not to pick and play with suspicious objects which they would have come across. Investigations into the incident are being conducted.”-The Herald

Chegutu Rural District Council independent councillor for ward 23 alderman Ngoni Mupfudza was arrested and arrained before Chegutu magistrate on charges of embezzlement of Pfumvudza inputs amounting to 12 100 kgs.
Mupfudza (51) was charged together with Agritex officials Margaret Manda (49) and Patricia Chemhazo (53), a police constable, Bridget Mutondoro, two soldiers, Talent Chihota and Perfect Dhliwayo (36) and Dominic Zinyakatira.
The eight accused appeared before Chegutu magistrate Noah Gwatidzo who ramanded the case to 11 November.
He granted them $5000 bail and they are expected to stay at their given addresses.
It is the state’s case that on 25 October 2020 at around 11am, the police received a tip off that Pfumvudza inputs were being embezzled at Grain Marketing Board, Chegutu.
The accused persons who were supposed to distribute AN fertilizers, Compound D Fertilizers, and Panna seed maize to Wards 12-29 in Chegutu District would allegedly tamper with the lists, inflating numbers and converting the remaining inputs to their own use after distribution.
On 26 October at about 1500 hours, details from the Criminal Investigation Department in Kadoma reacted to the tip off and managed to arrest Mamvura and 100kgs of fertiliser was recovered at Durawall Home Industry, Chegutu.
Mamvura also led detectives to shop number 168 Mukwati Street, Chegutu Industrial area where 42 X 50kgs bags of fertilisers and 3 X 5kgs of seed maize were recovered in a wooden cabin and also implicated Dhliwayo.
Investigations made by the CID crack team led to the recovery of 12 100kgs of fertilisers and the arrest of more accused persons.
Police officers last week caught a Sakubva man sodomising his girlfriend’s 12-year-old son ‘as punishment for consuming his rabbit meat’.
Victor Musonza (43) has since been hauled before the Mutare Magistrates’ Court.
He is facing aggravated indecent assault charges.
Musonza pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Ms Nyasha Kutureo on Thursday.
He was denied bail and remanded in custody to November 5 for trial.

It is the State’s case that on October 20 around midday, Musonza went to his girlfriend’s home and asked the juvenile to roast his rabbit.
The boy roasted the meat but ate it.
“At around 8pm the same day, Musonza returned to collect the meat but the minor told him that he had eaten the meat as he had nothing else to eat.
“Musonza lost his temper and assaulted the boy with a wooden plank. He force-marched the child to his house. On their way there, Musonza bought some beer at a sheeben.
“Upon arrival at his house, Musonza dragged the complainant into his wooden cabin and locked the door from inside,” said Mr Goto.
The minor was forced to drink the alcohol.
Musonza then allegedly sodomised the boy.
“As he was doing so, Musonza heard some voices outside and quickly put on his clothes, thereby forgetting to wear his underwear.
As it turned out, Constables Matare and Muchiri were investigating a kidnapping case that had been reported by the minor’s mother.
They forced the door open and discovered two pairs of underwear on the floor.
The minor’s underwear and shorts were soiled with semen. When the police asked what had happened, the minor spilled the beans.
A Marange man who is determined not to impregnate his wife due to his fear of paternal responsibilities has resorted to using condoms, The Weekender can reveal.
Responding to a maintenance claim by his ex-wife, Blessing Mandimutsira said the three children from his first marriage are enough as he is struggling to provide for them.
“Intimacy with my new wife is less exciting as we are using protection. I cannot afford to have more children. Having three children in this economy is very expensive. I am failing to take care of my children and I do not want to overburden myself by having more,” said Mandimutsira.
He had been hauled before the courts by Mispa Mukwavaya, the mother of his children.
Mukwavaya was seeking $6 000 as maintenance for her three minor children. The pair appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Lazarus Murendo.
Mandimutsira offered to pay US$10 every month for the upkeep of the children. He highlighted that he is unemployed.
“Your Worship, I am struggling and she knows that. That is why she left me. She told me that I was poor and neglecting my family’s needs, yet I had been providing for them to the best of my abilities. Now she wants maintenance from a pauper like me,” said Mandimutsira.
“During our marriage we survived from the commission I got from selling bales of second hand clothes. Now with the Sakubva Flea Market closed, l’m really struggling to make ends meet,” said Mandimutsira.
However, Mukwavaya argued that a monthly pay-out of US$10 would be inadequate for her three children.
Mr Murendo told Mandimutsira to fork out $3 000 every month for the upkeep of the three kids until they turn 18 or become self-sufficient
“You are a father and should look after your children. You cannot come here and boast about your inability to provide for your children.
A minimum of $1000 should be offered for each child, although it is still inadequate,” said Murendo.-Manica Post
A JOHANNE Marange Apostolic Church member lost four front teeth after being bashed by her husband for attending a church service without his approval.
Ramwai Bhasera (63) recently appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Nyasha Kuture, facing domestic violence charges and was remanded out of custody on $3 000 bail.
As part of his bail conditions, Bhasera was ordered to continue residing at his given address in Marange and not to interfere with State witnesses.
This was after he had denied the charges.
Ms Kuture adjourned the matter to November 11 for trial.
Mr Brian Goto prosecuted.
It is alleged that on October 15, Bhasera’s wife, Servie Munyoro (58) attended a church service near her homestead in the absence of her husband.
When she went back home, Bhasera voiced his disapproval over the fact that Munyoro had attended the church service without his approval.
He then stormed out of the house and put up for the night at an unknown address.
“When he came back home the following day, he started shouting at Munyoro again. He proceeded to assault her all over the body. Munyoro lost four front teeth in the process. She managed to escape and sought refuge at a neighbour’s house,” said Mr Goto.
A report was made to the police, thereby leading to Bhasera’s arrest.-Manica Post

Mdc Alliance Namibia lauds the illegally suspended Justice Ndewere and the resolute judges who unravelled incontrovertible evidence of the state capture of the judiciary system through an affidavit and a petition undersigned by diverse judges, written to Mr Munangagwa, citing Chief Justice Malaba as the threat to justice in Zimbabwe. It has been brought to the attention of those who were still doubting the weaponisation of the law by clueless Zanupf to settle political scores. The grieving judges made it clear that the capture of the courts is not a fabrication or trumped-up story, it is in fact the veracity.Our Judges are operating with extreme terror and trepidation given the current phobia which exists within the judiciary.
It is imperative for all social democrats to gear up towards earnestly requesting a fresh hearing of 2018 July rigged elections petition without the biased and partisan Malaba.
We also demand new court hearing for the case which robbed Mdc Alliance of its MPs who were unconstitutionally recalled by the Zanupf surrogates exploiting the captured courts.
Mdc Alliance Namibia advocates for the enactment of an objective and independent panel to investigate how the Chief Justice routinely interferes with Magistrates and their legal opinions through the Chief Magistrates’ office. The compromised Malaba must step down together with all tainted and corrupt judges.
Moreover, in the petition, the judges noted that elevation destitute of questioning and evaluation of superior personnel within the Judicial Service Commission implies that complaints fall on deaf ears as high-ranking ineligible officers of court are there to shield their jobs and the brawny or powerful perks that go with their handsome jobs. It is quite pathetic to learn that judges no longer trust their ancillary service providers as they are compelled to conceal their legal opinions for fear of being directed to alter these by the Zanupf official disguised as an officer of the court. Chief justice Malaba was incriminated in the affidavit by Justice Ndewere. He tried in vain to frog-march the patriotic Judge to deny bail to Job SaroWiwa Sikhala, the vibrant Mdc Alliance Vice-Chairperson and Prisca Mupfumira.
Moreso , he was sombrely throwing a monkey wrench in the autonomous Judges on the election petition from the People’s President Advocate Nelson Chamisa after a historic rigged election in 2018. The fact that the Chief Justice can tell the individualistic judges to change their sagaciousness must be confronted with equal measure. Zanupf must immediately stop their manipulation of the law using partisan judges, as Mdc Alliance Namibia, we advocate for sound judgements that come from commutative and self-governing judges.
Furthermore, the judges also unearthed what the Zanupf Chief Justice calls “judgement by consensus”, a euphemism for dissuading contentious judicial decisions. Basically, the Chief Justice has the final say on the Supreme and Constitutional Court judgements that are released giving him the evil power powers to victimise inferiors. These courts are therefore the Chief Justice’s courts where no judge has the effrontery to disaccord with him for fear of chastisement. There are also multitudinous direct battle royal of interest issues that we see every now and then in the judiciary system. It is this apparent capture of the courts that is being enjoyed by Zanupf surrogates led by Khupe and Mwonzora who decided to surrender the freedom project to Zanupf Satanists.
