Green Bombers Bounce Back

By A Correspondent-The government has resumed the controversial National Youth Service training (NYS) at Border Gezi Training Camp in Mt Darwin, with youth organisations demanding the disbandment of the programme.

The militia group, popularly known as the Green Bombers, has been criticised after it turned partisan, serving only the ruling party Zanu PF’s interests.

In their petition to the government demanding the disbandment of the programme, the young people’s affiliated organisations said the government should reconsider the proposed re-introduction of the NYS until such a time when there is a national consensus on the policy guiding the programme.

The organisations, led by the National Association of Youth Organisations (NAYO), a youth umbrella body for youth organisations working in Zimbabwe included Vision Africa, Southern African Parliamentary Support Trust (SAPST),  Community Advocacy Development Trust (CADT), gave oral evidence to the Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Parliamentary Portfolio Committee last week.

NAYO coordinator Macdonald Munyoro presented the petition arguments to the committee.

“The government is re-introducing the NYS without evaluating and getting lessons learnt from 2001-2008 in terms of approach, ideology, relevance, feedback from citizens, youth themselves and without identifying gaps from previous program. No evidence and wide consultations have been done. The government should appoint a Commission of Inquiry into the alleged human rights violations and violence committed by the past NYS graduates in order to establish what went wrong,” Munyoro said.

According to the youth groups, NYS was condemned by the United Nations (UN) and Africa Union.

In their petition, the youth demanded to know if Parliament had debated the cabinet’s decision and inquire on its funding modalities.

“The NYS was characterised by the perception and belief that it was a ruling party ( Zanu PF) programme as evidenced by gathered information regarding the provision of materials from inception that consisted exclusively Zanu PF party. Where are the funds to roll out the programme being derived from and is there any parliament approval,” Munyoro querried.

NAYO also called on Parliament to exercise its oversight role to ensure consultations for a national, inclusive, non discriminatory process in shaping the issues that affect youth in the country in line with the constitution and best practice.

“The NYS should be separated from Defence ministry and close all training sites linked to the military, for instance, the Mt Darwin Border Gezi Camp is a former 2 Brigade military camp

Chamisa Tells ED To Apologise For Gukurahundi

MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has called on President Emmerson Mnangagwa to apologise for his role in the Gukurahundi massacres.
He also called for an end to the vandalism of memorial plagues erected at Gukurahundi mass graves.

The vandalism is widely believed to be done by State security agents.

Chamisa said this during a visit to Bhalagwe Gukurahundi mass graves where a Bulawayo-based pressure group, Ibhetshu likaZulu, has had two plaques vandalised.

He was accompanied by his deputies Welshman Ncube and Lynette Karenyi-kore. Posting on his Facebook page, Chamisa said: “I visited Bhalagwe in Matobo. Don’t vandalise erected plaques.”

“Memory and history can’t be vandalised. To deal with past atrocities, the State must take responsibility and genuinely apologise, allow a process of truth telling and accountability, allow for restitutive justice, restorative justice and rehabilitative justice, but not retributive justice,” he said, adding: “Allow and respect families to mourn and remember their relatives in reburials, memorial and plaques, allow for closure, healing and reconciliation.”

Contacted for comment yesterday, Chamisa said he was moved by the fact that twice the plaques had been installed at Bhalagwe and got vandalised.

“I know that there have been efforts to erect the plaque and twice it was vandalised. I wanted to touch around the issue and the region. I saw that it was vandalised and heard that there are attempts to find closure by those affected, that is why I posted on the issue,” Chamisa said.

“The best way is to be truthful about it, apologise, have the perpetrators apologise, have justice and rehabilitation of the families. We must take this issue as part of our history we can’t erase but we must build a memorial about it.”

“Under our government, that is a day one assignment. You cannot prosper without healing. We have to deal with internal acrimony. Zimbabweans are not happy and want healing. The best way to make our people happy is to deal with these outstanding issues,” he said.

“We cannot afford to play politics around this issue, we have to let the communities talk and get healed for us to move forward,” he said.

The Bhalagwe mass grave is a burial site for 12 villagers killed during the Gukurahundi massacres in 1985.

At least 20 000 people were killed by the Fifth Brigade during Gukurahundi, according to the Catholic Commission for Peace and Justice.

The late former President Robert Mugabe described the atrocities he engineered as “a moment of madness”, but refused to publicly apologise.

His successor Mnangagwa, perceived to be a key player, has tried to address the issue, with critics describing his efforts as piece-meal. -Newsday

Facts About Prostate Cancer …

Prostate Cancer
The prostate gland is an organ found only in males positioned just below the bladder and surrounds the top portion of the tube that drains urine from the bladder. The major function of the prostate is to produce fluids that nourishes and transports sperms.

This organ called the prostate gland is more likely to develop cancer. Cancer occurs when cells in the body start to grow without control.

Cells in nearly any part of the body can become cancer cells, and can then spread to other parts of the body.

Prostate cancer is a type of cancer that affects the prostate gland. It is one of the most common types of cancer in males. Many prostate cancers grow slowly and are confined to the prostate gland. However, while some types of prostate cancer grow slowly and may require minimal or even no treatment, other types are aggressive and can vastly spread to other parts of the body.

Some of the signs of prostate cancer include.

• Frequent urination.

• Weak or interrupted urine flow or the need to strain to empty the bladder.

• Frequent urge to urinate at night.

• Blood in the urine.

• New onset of erectile dysfunction.

• Pain or burning during urination, which is much less common.

• Discomfort or pain when sitting, caused by an enlarged prostate.

• Back pain and bone pain if cancer have spread.

Risk factors for prostate cancer include:

  1. Age- common in the elderly usually above 50years
  2. Race- blacks have a high risk of having aggressive and advanced prostate cancer
  3. Family history- previous history of prostate cancer or breast cancer has shown an increased risk of having prostate cancer.

How to know you have prostate cancer?

Prostate cancer sometimes in its early stages one is asymptomatic and difficult to tell if they have prostate cancer.

Even with symptoms above one cannot tell alone with that as other prostate diseases might have similar symptoms.

If one suspects or have symptoms above should consult a doctor to have a physical examination and investigations done to assess if they have prostate cancer.

Treatment can be started early and the type of treatment to be administered one will discuss with their doctor.

Heads Must Roll as Educational Genocide Emerges in Schools

By Dr Takavafira M. Zhou | As Ptuz we made it categorically clear without any equivocation or ambiguity that 98% of schools were not ready for opening but Ministry Officials claimed they were ready. Just two weeks after opening COVID 19 is spreading like wild fire in Schools in Zimbabwe. Where is the propagandist Taungana Ndoro, where is Hon Cain Matema, where is Mrs Thabela. Lies have short legs.

We challenge Cabinet Ministers to visit Nyamuka Primary (Manicaland), Kriste Mambo (Manicaland), Tongwe High ( Mat South), Neshangwe High (Mashonaland East), Masase High (Midlands), Chegato High (Midlands) and many other schools. Schools are running short of testing kits and in some schools after only testing ‘A’ and ‘O’ level students, more that 75 have been confirmed positive at one school. Worse still not all ‘A’ and ‘O’ level students have been tested as schools ran out of testing kits. When we give professional advice, Ministry officials must listen rather than make decisions from the comfort of their offices. It is prudent to prioritise the health and safety of teachers and pupils rather than throwing all cautions to the wind. There is virtually no covid abatement equipment in schools, let alone running water. The bloated classes and hostels are a cause for concern, yet medalist in verbal marathon lie through their teeth that schools are ready. For the avoidance of doubt I am a product of Masase High School and Chegato High School, and feel directly affected when students’ health and safety there and in any other school are compromised.

As PTUZ we urge govt to mellow down to a more constructive approach permeable to reason and facts rather than making decisions based on lies. Life is more important than lies. Where did the $750 million and another $500 million go to, if students have no covid abatement equipment in schools? As Ptuz we called for testing of 140 000 teachers, more than 5 million pupils, and ancillary staff before conglomeration in schools. But for some warped, vague and vacuous reasoning the Ministry officials fronted by their Goebbels, Taungana Ndoro, claimed otherwise.

If govt cannot provide health and safety to teachers and pupils, let alone address the welfare of teachers, it would be prudent for teachers, parents and pupils to safeguard their lives by all means necessary. Henceforth we urge teachers to stop teaching in all schools where covid 19 cases have been confirmed until further notice. We also urge parents to stop sending their children to such schools until fumigation of the school and covid effects are arrested. We also urge gvt to forthwith provide covid abatement equipment to all schools in Zimbabwe and stop their homelitic bellicose.

Covid is real and our haphazardous meddling and muddling in opening schools is already producing disastrous results. When education officials pride in lies and peddle such to the president, such officials must be dismissed forthwith.

Did Chiwenga Cause Chadzamira Arrest?

Tinashe Sambiri|The arrest of the Minister of State for Masvingo Province and Zanu PF provincial chairperson Ezra Chadzamira is a direct result of escalating factional battles in the former revolutionary party.

Chadzamira was arrested for fraudulently distributing sugarcane plots.

Chadzamira also controls mining claims around Masvingo Province.

Party insiders told ZimEye.com, a faction aligned to Zanu PF vice president Constantino Chiwenga is plotting Chadzamira’s downfall.

According an impeccable source, party stalwarts held a secret meeting in Gutu District, days before Chadzamira’s arrest.

“Former police officer Robson Mavhenyengwa and Masvingo North MP Davies Marapira are eyeing Chadzamira’s position.

The two are determined to remove Chadzamira from office as they feel he has become too powerful and his wings have to be clipped,” said the source.

“Things are not well, the whole thing emanates from the internecine battle between ED and Chiwenga,” claimed a senior Zanu PF official.

“Party stalwarts want to crush Chadzamira’s Team Bholato that has risen to the summit of political events in Masvingo Province,” said another Zanu PF official.

Zanu PF Confirms Interfering With Zambia’s Electoral Process.

…Cde E.D Mnangagwa was an instrumental arbiter in influencing the then incumbent Cde Edgar Lungu…

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF has admitted that it had a hand in the just ended Zambia’s elections.

On Sunday, the party’s secretary for administration, Obert Mpofu said after the elections in Zambia, President Emmerson Mnangagwa helped persuade ex-Zambian leader Edgar Lungu to surrender power graciously.

Mpofu said the following wide claims the Zimbabwean ruler was miffed by a regional opposition leader and ally to his (Mnangagwa) nemesis, Nelson Chamisa, emphatically ascending to power.

Zanu PF is apprehensive of the winds of change in the region, which also saw Malawian President Peter Mutharika lose to an opposition leader that recently could soon spread to Zimbabwe.

Zanu PF has been at pains to deny it has no issues with opposition parties upstaging ruling parties in the region.

Said Mpofu, “In no ambivalent terms, Zanu PF joins the people of Zambia in honouring and pleading allegiance to the democratic transition which saw the United Party for National Development (UNDP) assuming the terms of power under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema in Zambia.
“From the outset, His Excellency, President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa gave outright support to an absolute constitutional execution of the recent Zambian election.
“To this end, the First Secretary of Zanu PF Cde E.D Mnangagwa was an instrumental arbiter in influencing the then incumbent Cde Edgar Lungu to concede to the winds of change.”
By attending Hichilema’s inauguration August this year, Zanu PF said, Mnangagwa “demonstrated his unquestionable affinity to the election outcome which brought UPND to power”.
Zanu PF said it has “total respect for the sovereignty of other fellow African nations” adding that it “has been consistent in meeting all our diplomatic obligations with the Republic of Zambia with no bias exertions on any Zambia’s Heads of State over the years”
Added Zanu PF, “Our seasoned political experience would never permit us to be narrow preferential sentimentalism on whoever is the President of Zambia or now.”

Mugabe Family Challenges The Late Leader’s Reburial Court Ruling

By A Correspondent- The family of the late President Robert Mugabe has filed an appeal at the magistrate’s court in Chinhoyi against a ruling that said the late long time ruler should be reburied at Heroes Acre.

Speaking to eNCA, the Mugabe family lawyer, Fungai Chimwamurombe said:
The ruling that came up two days ago has been appealed. Our team right now is in Chinhoyi filing an appeal against that decision. And the reasoning of the magistrate was that the 3 children of the late president were not part of the hearing that was done at the chief community court hence they should not be approaching the magistrate court. A decision which we believe was erred, hence we challenge an appeal.

The effect of filing an appeal is to suspend the decision that was made.
Chimwamurombe refused to comment on the Mugabe exhumation matter beyond the challenge to the Zvimba Chief’s decision to have Mugabe’s body exhumed.

Chamisa Confirms Working With Spies

By A Correspondent- MDC Alliance president Nelson Chamisa said the biggest problem the party faces is infiltration by Zanu-PF.

Chamisa was speaking at the party’s 22nd-anniversary celebrations held in Bulawayo on 11 September 2021.

The celebrations were cut short by the police who said the event had not been approved.

This is what Chamisa said:
We know our biggest problem has been infiltration. You see someone given a position by Zanu-PF, see someone going to State House. When you joined the organisation you were not at State House you joined in your branch, why should you go to State House? For what? Why do you want to be paraded like a brahman that is being auctioned?
Why, cheapening yourself? To lose integrity and dignity for what reason? Just because you have been given money. Life is not about money and trinkets that don’t matter.

So today as we celebrate 22 years, some are asking us, celebrating as who?’ We are celebrating the journey of this struggle, we are celebrating the idea that we have been out there for 22 years. We have seen it all. A lot has been thrown at us but we are not collapsing. We are standing and tell you what the party has grown bigger than what it was. What was done by Hichilema we will multiply by 10 here.
You have seen what has happened to our party, you have seen what has happened in Parliament, it’s now a playground for crooks. Parliament is no longer a legitimate body that has a reflection of the representation of the people because legitimate representatives have been withdrawn and replaced by unelected people.
It tells you that illegitimacy that was buffeting Mnangagwa’s seat has now migrated into Parliament so we now have illegitimacy in Parliament. Illegitimacy is the biggest problem in this country. We have people who are not elected in Parliament but what is the way forward? The only way forward is what I am now going to give you as we go we have seen Zanu-PF authoritarian consolidation dramatised – recalled, seeing people do this and that.

Chamisa’s remarks follow recent defections from his party to Zanu-PF by some members.

R200 000 Fine For Spreading Propaganda & Hate Speech During Elections

By A Correspondent- The South African government has established an institution that would monitor hate speech and false statements by politicians during election campaign periods.

The Local Government Election 2021 Disinformation Project will be monitoring communications from political parties using technological tools and data science for any disinformation in violation of the IEC Code of Conduct.

Any instances of disinformation detected will be reported to the Electoral Court.

The disinformation project also has powers to punish any politician or political party that would have been found wanting.

With the local government election date declared last week, political parties, candidates, and their agents may now face heavy penalties for spreading disinformation.

The Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma declared 1 November 2021 as the new date for the local government elections, indicating that the Independent Electoral Commission’s (IEC) Code of Conduct will come into effect.

The IEC Code Of Conduct prohibits political parties from “publishing false information about other parties” and “generally abusing a position of power, privilege or influence to influence the outcome of an election.”

These sections read together prohibit political parties from spreading disinformation – false, inaccurate and misleading information spread deliberately to deceive and manipulate the public for political gain.

Parties that violate the IEC Code Of Conduct can be fined up to R200 000, have to give up the party’s election deposit, be stopped from working in an area, have their votes in an area cancelled or can have their party registration cancelled.

“We hope that political parties will see our initiative as a deterrent and an opportunity to reflect on how they communicate with voters,” says Phumzile Van Damme, the Disinformation Project’s Coordinator. “Disinformation contributed to billions of rands in destruction of property and to the loss of over 300 lives in July 2021. Politicians must not use their words recklessly and endanger lives. We ask South Africans to join us and stand united against those who use disinformation to spread hatred on the grounds of race, nationality and incite violence in the quest for power.”

“In order to avoid the harm caused as a result of disinformation, I encourage South Africans to always turn to trusted sources for their information during these elections and whenever in doubt, they can use some simple verification tactics, which we intend to share during the course of this project,” says Adebayo Okeowo, Program Manager at WITNESS.

“We trust that all regulations especially associated with disinformation are followed, and in an instances where they are not followed, the Electoral Court will be decisive in its penalty and follow-through,” says Lazola Kata, National Communication Rights Campaigner for Right2Know.

The 2021 Local Government Anti-Disinformation Project is a first-of-its-kind common-purpose “country duty” collaborative project against disinformation and misinformation. The project’s partners are Phumzile Van Damme, Right2Know, Code For Africa, Superlinear, Dr David Rosenstein and WITNESS.

The project’s partners maintain their independence and, on a voluntary basis, are collaborating to tackle disinformation in the lead up to the elections.

Zim Youths Storm Mnangagwa Over “Green Bombers”

By A Correspondent- The country’s youths have stormed the government through the Parliament with a petition over the resumption of the National Youth Service training (NYS) at Border Gezi Training Camp in Mt Darwin.

The militia group, popularly known as the Green Bombers, has been criticised after it turned partisan, serving only the ruling party Zanu PF’s interests.

In their petition, the young people’s affiliated organisations said the government should reconsider the proposed re-introduction of the NYS until such a time when there is a national consensus on the policy guiding the programme.

City Of Harare Officials, Pokugara Properties Appear In Court For Malicious Damage to Property

By Jane Mlambo| Suspended City of Harare Town Clerk Engineer Hosiah Abraham Chisango, three other municipality officials and Pokugara Properties as represented by Mandla Marlone Ndebele had their case of malicious damage to property postponed to 22 September by the Harare Magistrates Court today.

It is the state’s case, sometime between July 2018 and October 2018, at lot 9 of 21 on consolidated number 19559 of 19828 on Harare Township corner Teviotdale and Whitwell in Borrowdale, Mandla Marlone Ndebele, Hosiah Chisango, Isiah Zvenyika Chawatama, Samuel Nyabezi, Lasten Taonezvi and Ken Sharpe who is still at large destroyed a show house constructed by Harare business George Katsimberis without a court order.

Chisango connived with Pokugara Properties to destroy a show house built by Katsimberis

The accused allegedly acted in common purpose and demolished Katsimberis’ Show house which had an approved plan without advising the complainant.

Sharpe and his Chief Operating Officer Michael John Van Blerk

Van Blerk, Ndebele and Sharpe are also in trouble for failing or refusing to disclose that the stand in question was built with approved plans and for failing to caution Katsimberis of the demolition before undertaking such a drastic measure.

The state was represented by Zivanai Macharaga while Pokugara Properties counsel was Advocate Tawanda Zhuwarara.

Mapeza To Replace Logarusic?

The Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA board is in talks with former Warriors captain Norman Mapeza for the vacant national team coach job, Soccer24 has established.

ZIFA gave in to mounting pressure from football stakeholders yesterday and wielded the axe on under-fire coach Zdravko Logarusic, who had won only one game in the 14 he took charge of.

A well-placed source at the country’s football governing body confided to Soccer24 this morning that Mapeza, who is the current FC Platinum coach, is the priority, and he has been approached.

“The board in consensus that Norman Mapeza is the first option for the now vacant head coach post. He has been approached, but its not just about us wanting him, he has to be interested as well, so we will see how it goes,” the source said.

“We will see if he can be persuaded,” he added.

Mapeza is still owed money from his previous stints at the helm of the Warriors and that will be a decisive factor in the task of convincing him to take the biggest coaching job in the country.

ZIFA in their statement confirming Logarusic’s dismissal, said a new coach will be named soon.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Confirmed: ZIFA Sack Logarusic

The Zimbabwe Football Association board has agreed to sack national team coach Zdravko Logarusic following a string of poor results.

The Croat only managed one win in fourteen games he took charge since his appointment in February last year.

A loss in Ethiopia, plus a goalless draw against South Africa in the World Cup qualifiers last, saw pressure mounting on the local football body to take action.

The decision to sack the gaffer was then made at a board meeting held on Sunday afternoon.

ZIFA will now pay a settlement fee to Logarusic for his pre-mature contract termination.

A statement by the association reads: “The Zimbabwe Football Association would like to inform the football fraternity and the nation at large that it has amicably parted ways with Senior Men’s team coach Zdravko Logarusic.

“The decision was arrived at upon consideration by the full Executive Committee of all the various relevant circumstances pertaining to the coach’s contract.”

The entire technical team has also been disbanded. It included Lloyd Chitembwe as the first assistant, Tonderai Ndiraya as the second assistant and recently appointed Benjani Mwaruwari as the third assistant.

Meanwhile, ZIFA has already decided to appoint an interim technical in the coming days.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Sakunda Holdings In Lucrative Partnership Deals With Bosso, DeMbare

Dynamos and Highlanders have secured the biggest ever sponsorship deals in local football after the clubs signed multi million-dollar contracts with energy company Sakunda Holdings.

The two Premier Soccer League giants will each get US$3 million over the next three years. The sponsorship deals, which come with $1 million per season packages, are expected to be unveiled in Harare on Tuesday.

The developments comes at a time both DeMbare and Bosso have struggled with their finances due to football inactivity in the country caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Highlanders were worst affected after NetOne pulled out as their main sponsor in January this year. The club then went on for the next eight months without any major financial support, leading to continuous player strikes.

Some players in their squad like captain Ariel Sibanda and his deputy, Nqobizitha Masuku, tried to push for exit in search of greener pastures elsewhere, but the club refused to release them.

The situation only eased this month when internet service providers Utande came on board on a short term deal until January next year.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Courts Free Zimbabweans Arrested In Last Year’s Anti-Govt Protests

NINE Harare and Chegutu residents have been set free after being hauled before the courts on charges of committing public violence for allegedly participating in last year’s anti-government demonstrations protesting against a clampdown on pro-democracy campaigners, abductions and attempts to amend the Constitution.

First to be acquitted on Wednesday 8 September 2021 were Edward Dzekwa, the MDC-Alliance Councillor for Ward 9 and the opposition political party supporter Isheunesu Chimunyemba, who were set free by Chegutu Magistrate Noah Gwatidzo after a full trial.

Councillor Dzekwa and Chimunyemba, who had been out of custody on bail, had been on trial after they were arrested by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers in July 2020 and charged with contravening section 37(b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act for participating in a gathering with intent to promote public violence, breach of the peace or bigotry.

The duo was also charged with unnecessary movement during a national lockdown as defined in Section 4(1)(a) of the Public Health (COVID-19 Prevention, Containment and Treatment) (National Lockdown) Order 2020, Statutory Instrument 83 of 2020.

However, Magistrate Gwatidzo acquitted Dzekwa and Chimunyemba, who were represented by Douglas Chikwangwani of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), after ruling that the State failed to prove the alleged case against them and that State witnesses, who were police officers
gave inconsistent evidence during trial, which could not convince him that they were telling the truth.

On Friday 10 September 2021, Harare Magistrate Stanford Mambanje set free lawyer and opposition MDC-Alliance party spokesperson Advocate Fadzayi Mahere together with six other Harare residents namely Tinotenda Muskwe, Tinashe Murapata, Jessica Drury, Nyasha Musandu, Josse Lotter and Simon Drury after ruling that there had been an inordinate passage of time without commencement of their trial.

Mahere, Musandu, Muskwe, Murapata, Drury, Lotter and Drury had been on remand for more than one year after they were arrested by ZRP officers on 31 July 2020 and charged with participating in a public gathering with intention to promote public violence, breach of peace or bigotry as defined in Section 37(1)(b) of Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

Mahere, Muskwe, Murapata, Drury, Musandu, Lotter and Drury were also charged with unnecessary movement during the COVID-19 National Lockdown without any exemption with prosecutors pressing a charge of contravening section 4(1)(a) of the Public Health (COVID-19 Prevention, Containment and Treatment) (National Lockdown) Order Statutory Instrument 77/2020.

They were accused of participating in an illegal demonstration in Harare’s Mt Pleasant suburb while holding some placards written “Free Zim”, “#Free MDC Trio”, “#Stop abductions” and “#Hands off Constitution”.

On Friday 10 September 2021, Magistrate Mambanje ruled that there is no prejudice to be suffered by the State as it can still summon the seven Harare residents to appear in court if it intends to prosecute them.

The ruling came after the Harare residents, who were represented by Chris Mhike of ZLHR and David Drury of Honey & Blanckenberg Legal Practitioners, argued that there had been an inordinate passage of time without commencement of trial and that there has been significant prejudice suffered by the seven people as a result of excessive delay to commence trial.

The lawyers also argued that there are risks to the health and life of the seven Harare residents as a result of frequent remand court appearances and the non-readiness of the State to commence trial.

MDC Alliance Namibia Statement On 22nd Anniversary

Mdc Alliance Namibia commemorates 22 years of fighting under the theme:

Bringing citizens together to win Zimbabwe for change.

11 September 2021

On this fundamental and historic day in the national democratic revolution, Mdc Alliance Namibia joins the rest of the globe in celebrating the day that the political behemoth was formed.

We are quite jovial and jubilant to commemorate 22 years since the inception of our revolutionary cause, founded on the dire need to erect a democratic Zimbabwe and deliver positive change and socio-economic transformation to the suffering masses. It inspires social democrats in Namibia to witness young Zimbabweans, some born shortly before or after its formation, taking ownership of the meaningful idea that it represents.

The district lauds with enormous satisfaction the exhibition of extraordinary energy, commitment, dedication, courage and determination to prosecute the struggle to its logical conclusion. Despite desperate efforts by the Harare regime to annihilate the fight for freedom, the popular movement has remained resilient and fortified.

Since the inception of the people’s party on 11 September 1999 when the movement was led by the late doyen of social democracy, President Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai to the current generation championed by the political mountain, President Advocate Nelson Chamisa, Zanupf has been trying relentlessly, albeit without success ,to decimate the political formation. May the dear soul of President Morgan Richard Tsvangirai rest in power!

In line with our 2021 agenda, the theme:Bringing citizens together to win Zimbabwe for complete change is a reflection of our quest to unite and confront the satanic Zanupf regime which has started our country down the slopes poverty and economic decay. As social democrats,we shall soldier on with the fight against the arbitrary arrests, torture and high levels of human butchery.

Mdc Alliance Namibia feels energised to invest more moral, material and financial support to accomplish the journey commenced by our forebears; rest in power President Morgan Richard Tsvangirai, Susan Tsvangirai, Tonderai Ndira, Rebecca Mafikeni, Talent Mabika, Joshua Bakacheza, Learnmore Judah Jongwe only to mention but a few. Your blood and sweat shall continue to water the freedom tree.

Moreover, President Hichilema’s sweet victory against dictatorship in Zambia strengthened our resolve to continue demanding justice and freedom.

The success reminds us that the pursuit of social democracy requires principled and focused leadership anchored on resilience ,consistency ,determination and strategy. He did not halt because the opposite side had thwarted him several times before he finally won after 26 years of fighting gross misgovernance in Zambia. Like the Zambians,we shall never give up because of persecution by prosecution. We are not going to surrender because there are clueless Zanupf naysayers who are seeing their removal as a fallacy. As a district, we drew astonishing lessons and inspiration from that experience.

Furthermore, Mdc Alliance Namibia needs to categorically make it clear to the satanic regime that our vibrant democratic revolution led by President Advocate Nelson Chamisa is based on an idea that is tightly woven into the fabric of society. It is evident that Zanupf looters have tried several things and they will keep on trying, anticipating to eradicate the democratic party forever but that will never happen to us like what happened to Tekere Edgar , Joshua Nkomo and others who were swallowed as a sure way of establishing a primitive stone age style of leadership.

Mdc Alliance Namibia is confident that they shall continue to fail dismally because our movement is bigger than the material things they are grabbing and destroying exploiting state apparatus for the primitive accumulation of national resources. Zanupf and their surrogates should know that our people are rooted and headquartered within their hearts and minds not at Morgan Tsvangirai House.

Over the past year after the Supreme Court judgement, we evidenced a sustained and determined insatiable appetite by Zanupf thugocrats to undermine and derail the freedom train.

We are quite aware that the politically inept Zanupf regime despises a strong opposition because it prefers the absolete politics of one- party state which suffocates and paralyses the alternative. Mdc Alliance Namibia have seen the dictators in Zimbabwe exploiting counterfeit democrats as opposition to deliberately impersonate the real people’s project, usurp the People’s assets and to illegally expel constitutionally elected political representatives from elected bodies.

Moreover, they diverted public funds that were legally owned by the Mdc Alliance led by President Advocate Nelson Chamisa based on the party’s performance in 2018 elections.

Social democrats in Namibia know very well that the idea is to suffocate us politically and financially and drive us to extinction but that will never transpire because the diaspora is ready to subscribe and donate to the political generator. Mdc Alliance Namibia supposes that Zanupf and their enablers are suffering from a fundamental delusion since they are busy mistaking buildings for institutions, confusing money for votes.

In a nutshell, Mdc Alliance Namibia invites all Zimbabweans globally to the Citizens Convergence for Change to win Zimbabwe for the change that delivers. Lets all register to vote, vote in 2023 and defend the vote. It must be clear to all social democrats that if you do not vote, do not complain. Lets take revolutionary lessons from Zambia, Malawi, Morocco only to mention but a few. We need to embrace participatory democracy as we approach 2023.

President Hichilema won after 26 years of confronting dictatorship in Zambia.

What Is Prostate Cancer?

Police Officers Demand Bribes From S_ex Workers

By A Correspondent- Police officers have been accused of extorting bribes or demanding s_exual favours from s_ex workers in order for the latter to operate after curfew hours.

The Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) August monthly monitoring report stated that a number of thigh vendors who  operated after stipulated curfew hours in Marondera and Mutoko accused male police officers of demanding bribes or sexual favours.

“In Marondera and Mutoko, commercial sex workers operating after the curfew time accused male police officers of asking for bribes and in some cases, the police officers allegedly demanding sexual favours from the commercial sex workers in return for freedom.”

The ZPP also noted that most of these cases were recorded in Mashonaland East province, New Zimbabwe reports.

Recently, President Emmerson Mnangagwa extended curfew hours to between 22:00hrs and 05:30hrs. Before then, curfew hours were between 19:00hrs to 06:00hrs.

In a similar incident, iHarare reported that a Rusape woman was found not guilty of trumped-up charges filed against her by a spiteful police officer whose sexual advances she had turned down.

Chikunguru works at Rusape General Hospital, where she is employed as a mortician by Heritage Funeral Parlour.

The police officers charged her with assaulting or resisting a peace officer as defined in section 176 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

She was accused of refusing to be apprehended by shouting and throwing stones at Constable Brian Kasu who was enforcing Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.

Other members of the unit included Assistant Inspector Chisenye, Assistant Inspector Dhambu, Constable Muza, Constable Makwarimba and Constable Masuka among others.

Sikhala Dares Komichi To Recall

By Jane Mlambo| Zengeza West legislator Job Sikhala has dared MDC-T National Chairman Morgen Komichi over his threats to recall him and his Hwange Central counterpart Daniel Molokele from parliament.

Addressing the MDC-T 22nd anniversary celebrations, Komichi urged his party leader Douglas Mwonzora to recall remaining legislators who are aligned to youthful politician Nelson Chamisa.

Though Mwonzora watered down Komichi’s request, Sikhala said he is not moved by the threats.

He further challenged Mwonzora to expedite the process of recalling him saying he does not care.

“I hv received several telephone calls from different pple including journalists whether I heard threats frm Morgan Komichi of an ultimatum of recall. Who honestly cares? He should go ahead as expeditiously as he wants. Threats are dangerous. Even ED can go to hell with threats,” said Sikhala.

Mwonzora has recalled more than 30 legislators and tens of councilors across the country for siding with Chamisa.

Gvt Pleads With Civil Servants Over Salaries

Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Paul Mavima has pleaded with civil servants to exercise patience, saying the government is committed to improving their conditions of service in line with the prevailing economic environment.

Mavima said the Government will increase civil servants’ salaries guided by stabilisation of the economy which will take a bit of time to achieve due to fiscal limitations.

This comes after the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education revealed that some teachers, who make up the bulk of civil servants, were not reporting for duty citing incapacitation.

Said Mavima:

We call upon civil servants to be patient with the Government which is committed to improving their conditions of service.

Government is committed to reviewing their salaries in line with the prevailing economic conditions.

The review of salaries will be a continuous process through quarterly meetings of the National Joint Negotiation Council.

Teachers are pushing for the restoration of the pre-October 2018 salaries that were pegged at over US$500 per month or the equivalent in Zimbabwe dollars.

Mavima admitted that the slashing of civil servants’ salaries in October 2018 has become a bone of contention between the government and its workers.

He said:

The so-called bad blood emanated from the monetary changes that took place in 2018 when the Government was on a stabilisation programme.

Due to fiscal limitations, it will take a while to claw back to 2018 salary and wage levels and we remain committed to improving their conditions of service. There is a need for patience on the part of employees.

Government is sincere in making sure that there will be conditions that sufficiently motivate our public service employees for effective performance.

He said the review of salaries will be a continuous process through quarterly meetings of the National Joint Negotiation Council (NJNC), with the next indaba set for the last quarter of the year.

Apex Council deputy secretary-general Gibson Mushangu said they last had a meeting with the Government under NJNC on 11 August.

He also said civil servants want Government to conduct workshops for them so that they are abreast with its programmes that are aimed at improving their conditions of service.

“BAT Bribed The Late Robert Mugabe”: Report

By A Correspondent- An investigation by BBC Panorama has found evidence that suggests one of the world’s largest tobacco companies, British American Tobacco (BAT), bribed the late Robert Mugabe to have its illegal surveillance charges dropped.

Leaked documents show that BAT contracted a South African private security company, Forensic Security Services (FSS) to sabotage BAT’s rivals. Officially, FSS was contracted to fight the black-market cigarette trade, however former employees told the BBC that the security company broke the law to sabotage BAT’s rivals.

In one operation, FSS staff were instructed to close down three cigarette factories run by BAT’s competitors in Zimbabwe. FSS paid an unnamed Zimbabwean firm to conduct surveillance on a Savanna Tobacco factory in 2012, but the company got caught.

Three of the firm’s directors were charged in connection with the illegal surveillance. The arrests prompted the then president, Robert Mugabe, to make a speech condemning the men’s actions and BAT’s suspected involvement. A man who was sent by BAT to negotiate a deal with Mugabe who spoke to Panorama said he bribed a number of government officials to secure a meeting to discuss the arrested directors’ case.

Documents seen by the BBC confirm that the man was provided with the equivalent of US$12,000 in local currency. They also suggest the money for the bribes was provided by BAT. A memo suggested that the amount of the donation would be in the region of between USD300,000 to USD500,000 to Zanu PF.

While the leaked documents do not show if the bribe was paid, the three directors were released within days of the deal being offered. BBC reports that BAT declined to answer Panorama’s questions about the Zimbabwe payments, but it did not deny paying a bribe to Robert Mugabe.

It is against UK law for a British company to pay bribes, no matter where the payment takes place.

Crocodiles “Save” Illegal Makeshift Bridge Linking Zim And SA

By A Correspondent- Crocodiles have prevented SAPS officers from destroying an illegal makeshift bridge over the Limpopo River linking SA and Zimbabwe.

In defence, police shot at the advancing crocodiles while retreating from the wooden bridge.

Limpopo police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said the crocodiles wanted to “feast on police officers” and the reptiles “were in abundance, patrolling the area” when the incident happened on Thursday.

He added that the bridge would be destroyed in the coming week but this time with the help of the SA National Defence Force (SANDF).

“A small part of the bridge was destroyed. The SANDF was notified and they will also come assist,” he said.

The wooden bridge, 3km west of the main border post, was erected by smugglers about a month ago to move goods between SA and Zimbabwe.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police got wind of the bridge from reports carried by a local online publication, Beitbridge Eye, and engaged their SA counterparts last week on Monday.

Since it was easier to destroy the bridge from the SA side, it was agreed that the SAPS would undertake the operation.

The Beitbridge border has been closed for human traffic for months due to Covid-19 containment measures by both countries. This has led to an increase in smuggling involving cross-border traders.

The “Wooden Border Post” as it came to be known became a conduit for groceries, electrical goods, fuel and other basic commodities needed in Zimbabwe.

From Zimbabwe it provided a passage for undocumented travellers, contraband cigarettes, and precious minerals.

The Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce estimates about R1bn of revenue is lost annually through smuggling from SA.

Zimbabwean police have, since January, arrested 46,000 people for border post-related crimes, the majority of them smuggling.

The arrests accounted for R500,000 (US$35,000 or ZW$110m) in fines and penalties for smuggled goods.

Goods worth at least R14m were confiscated by the Zimbabwean authorities.-TimesLive

Private Sector Owes Zimra Over $6billion In Unpaid Taxes

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe’s private sector owed the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) $6,5 billion in unpaid taxes at the end of last year, according to an annual report released by the tax collector.

Zimra said parastatals owed government $1,4 billion, while local authorities owed $306 million, with importers owing $521 million during the period.

Out of a total debt of $8,7 billion, Zimra recovered $3,2 billion during the review period.

Total revenue in the period under review stood at $182 billion.

In 2019, the private sector owed $3,4 billion before the figure rose to $6,5 billion last year, parastatals owed $1 billion, importers owed $187 million and councils owed $175 million.

Failure to pay taxes by companies has hamstrung the government efforts to fund public sector programmes including the construction of roads and dams.

“Outstanding debt position as at 31 December 2020 closed at $8,669 billion which translates to a debt to revenue ratio of 3% against a target of 5%,  a decrease from 21% in 2019.

“Despite the increase in debt from $4,791 billion as at December 31, 2019, debt to revenue ratio improved due to increased revenue collected during the year,” Zimra acting commissioner-general Rameck Masaire said.

An analysis of the tax heads showed the debt in respect of value added tax (VAT), including penalties and interest, was $2,7 billion, pay as you earn (Paye) $2,6 billion, income tax $1,6 billion, withholding tax $1,3 billion and customs duty $521 million.

The private sector has blamed Zimra taxation measures’ heavy-handedness saying they do not encourage the thriving of formal businesses.

But Zimra is optimistic that its strategies, used in managing the debt, will yield positive results.

These include prosecution of tax and customs duty defaulters.

“Zimra is now carrying out criminal investigations to prosecute taxes and customs defaulters.

“The authority also enforces the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime (Amendment) Act, 2019.

“A campaign on the unexplained wealth orders has been launched and will be run in collaboration with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission and the National Prosecution Authority,” the annual report said.

ZCTU Turns Down Mwonzora Invitation To Attend 22nd Anniversary

By A Correspondent| The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Union (ZCTU) turned down an invitation to attend the Douglas Mwonzora led MDC-T’s 22nd anniversary celebrations held at the party headquarters at Morgan Tsvangirai house on Sunday.

According to MDC-T Organising Secretary Gift Chimanikire, they send invitations to current ZCTU leadership but were told that the labour movement is aligned to the Nelson Chamisa’s MDC Alliance.

“I understand kuti when we send an invitation to the current ZCTU kuti huyai kuno, vamwe vacho vakati tiri kwa Chamisa, iyazve, waivapo here patakatanga, wanga asipo, ndowataipa lift, kumutakura from one place to another tichienda kwakasiyana siyana, kumba uko anga ane ma trouse maviri ekhakhi nemashirt maviri ekhakhi, ndichivatakura mumota mangu imi, zvino kana learner roti instructor we driving ndiye ava learner, chingava chokwadi ichocho,” said Chimanikire.

Chamisa’s MDC Alliance held its own celebrations on Saturday in Bulawayo with the event disrupted by police who said it had not been sanctioned.

“Institutions That Deliver Elections Are Captured And Infiltrated By The Military”: Ruhanya

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe’s security forces are the biggest threat to free and democratic elections because of their partisan nature, human rights watchdogs have said.

The army has been widely implicated in partisan political behaviour and electoral interference, including voter intimidation and violence targeting opposition figures as well as manipulating results.

The security forces, not the ballot-box, are playing a decisive role in shaping Zimbabwe’s political landscape according to the Human Rights Watch (HRW).

Launching the position paper on military factor in Zimbabwe, under the theme Partisan security forces: Zimbabwe’s biggest election risk on Thursday last week, HRW director Dewa Mavhinga said security forces were Zimbabwe’s biggest election risk.

“We have seen that over the years, the politicised and highly-partisan security force has played a role in directing the political and electoral affairs of Zimbabwe,” Mavhinga said.

“So, the key to ensuring credible, free and fair elections in Zimbabwe really has to do with the removal of the security sector from being involved in the country’s civilian and political affairs.” Mavhinga said.

He said the security forces had been involved in politics in the country since 1980, culminating in the November 2017 coup that toppled long-time ruler, the late former President Robert mugabe.

Zimbabwe Democracy institute director, Pedzisai Ruhanya, who presented the second paper titled: The military factor: Zimbabwe’s centre of political gravity, echoed Mavhinga’s sentiments.

“Literature has it that the military has been the power block that stands between the people and their freedom that prevents possible democratic transition to freedom,” Ruhanya said.

“The institutions that administer elections are captured and infiltrated by the military and i can give you an example of the Zimbabwe electoral Commission.

“Since it was called the Zimbabwe election supervisory Commission, the chief executive officer and secretariat of Zec were captured by the military from the late Lovemore Sekeramai to the current chief executive officer Utoile Silayigwana and in the provincial set up, it is the military or intelligence that runs the secretariat. The electoral machinery is captured.”

The virtual discussion was organised by the Crisis Coalition of Zimbabwe.

Rhoda Mbofana (36), along with her younger sister, Esther Mbofana (18) and Fearless Manuere (20) on Saturday appeared before Harare magistrate Shane Kubonera charged with murder.

They were advised to apply for bail at the High Court and were remanded in custody to September 23.

The State alleged that on September 9 this year, Rhoda had a misunderstanding with her boyfriend, Tawanda Chembere who had visited her at her Mt Hampden home.

Manuere and Esther allegedly intervened.

However, the trio called the police and claimed that Chemhere had fallen into a nearby pit but the law enforcement agents noted a deep cut on his head consistent with an assault and arrested them.

George Charamba’s ZANU PF Now Dead Video

George Charamba

….

https://twitter.com/ZimEye/status/1435863377969098752?s=19

By Farai D Hove | It never rains but pours for the man who betrayed President Robert Mugabe, George Charamba who on Thursday publicly shared a video that nakedly displays his new boss, Emmerson Mnangagwa for transforming members of the public into bus passengers, in contrast to the Ian Smith style in which blacks were raised to multi millionaire status so they can own whole bus fleet companies.

Charamba publicly distributed the below video (transcript) in which a man, believed to be his agent, pleads with the masses to join his party ZANU PF on the basis of a few hundred ZUPCO buses.

The unnamed agent is heard even admitting to doubts on ZANU PF’s existence in 2021. The man screams out while trying to convince the public that his party is not dead.

“The party is still there; we are still in need of people,” says the man.

He says in full:

My guys, my guys, Cde ED is a Chibaba. These ZUPCO buses which are entering the Beitbridge Border Post, live and direct not this thing of hearing from Harare on Facebook and WhatsApp, lying to each other with the boys from Chinja.

Come to the real party with action that has got power and people, the one that fulfills the desires of the people, the one that belongs to Cde Mnangagwa who fulfills all the needs of the people. Look at these buses that are being fuelled right now, Bvupfuwo Checheche, there are so many of them entering the border. They are coming, all these are now receiving diesel on their way to Harare.

You will be boarding these buses tomorrow you Chamisa, courtesy of Cde ED Mnangagwa. Isn’t this sweet, what do you call this great accomplishment? Look at this; what else would do you want? Even you yourself when you are being deceived by these boys who are worthless, these are the buses that are getting diesel. This is Bvupfuwe, they are so countless these buses, this is ZUPCO-transport for the people that is cheap. They are so countless and this is the first batch that is coming in, there are more than 30 buses that I hear but more than 200 others, in the border, right now.

Up with ED Mnangagwa. This thing of your madness, lying to each other. The party is still there; we are still in need of people, the pockets of Zanu-PF will never be full, all the people come and support the party, look at these buses. Checheche Zupcos that are coming in here, you’ll be boarding them all the way to Harare for free. The country being fixed, the border is being fixed, the country becoming so sweet to the tap tap sound; while Hwange Power station the electricity is being fixed, so that they are sweet; Not this thing that you spend time lying to each other, with Chamisa, these boys who travelled to America to beg for sanctions on their own; to board a plane to go to America to beg for sanctions, so that people can suffer. Look at these are the buses here, they are waiting for each other so that they become a convoy so that they can travel in batches, look at these buses, so that they can travel in batches; so that they can travel to Harare-free public transport, courtesy of His Excellency Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa.

President Chamisa Hints On Party Name Change

Nelson Chamisa

By A Correspondent- MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has suggested that his party was moving towards changing its name after a rival faction started angling to claim its name.

Douglas Mwonzora and his MDC-T faction have claimed ownership of the MDC Alliance name and are planning to use it in the 2023 general elections, a move likely to trigger confusion among voters.

The MDC-T has recalled several MPs and councillors belonging to MDC Alliance and used armed police and soldiers to take over the party’s Morgan Richard Tsvangirai headquarters from its rivals following a controversial Supreme Court ruling that dislodged Chamisa as party leader in March last year.

Asked about the possibility of changing the party name ahead of the 2023 polls, Chamisa said the MDC Alliance was building “a citizen movement” that will “be distinct” from “Zanu-PF-funded parties.”

“We are in the process of building a citizen movement, a people’s movement, a citizen alliance across the board,” Chamisa said.

“We want an omnibus, a broad church that accommodates everyone, a broad organisation that accommodates everyone so that we are able to deliver change.”

Chamisa was speaking in Bulawayo, a day after his address on the party’s 22nd anniversary in the city was disrupted by police who claimed it was unsanctioned.

“Some are saying it is a new name, no, it’s a new direction. Some are asking; are you going to give us a different name yes; it is a different force altogether that galvanises all the people of Zimbabwe.

“A lot is happening, there will be no confusion for the people when the time to vote comes.”

Some party officials have been advocating for the adoption of MDC Chamisa as the new party name, while others insisted on using MDC Alliance.

However, others feel the Chamisa Chete Chete would be easy to popularise, at the same time, avoiding party members confusing it with any other name.

Police Deny Arresting Passengers Over Mushikashika

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has denied that it has been arresting people for boarding kombis not operating under the Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (Zupco) franchise.

The police made the claim, while responding to an application by the Passengers Association of Zimbabwe (PAZ) at the High Court seeking to block the police from arresting commuters who board pirate taxis after failing to get Zupco transport services.

The association argued that there was no prescribed law which criminalises the use of vehicles other than Zupco buses.

Government recently ordered the arrest of passengers who board pirate taxis known as mushikashika and that the offenders should pay a $2 000 spot fine.

In the High Court application, PAZ and Charles Nyone, who was fined for hitchhiking and George Tsiurayi, a private vehicle owner, cited Commissioner-General of police Godwin Matanga, Officer Commanding Harare province Walter Tembo and Home affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe as respondents.

But in his opposing affidavit to PAZ’s High Court application, Tembo denied that the police were arresting passengers in illegal pirate taxies. He claimed the police were only arresting pedestrians and motorists for allegedly flouting traffic regulations and not for boarding non-Zupco vehicles.

“Police are simply carrying out their constitutional mandate of maintaining law and order through traffic enforcement and arresting offenders and is part of routine work,” Tembo said.

“Applicants were arrested not for boarding mushikashikashika as alleged, but for hitchhiking at undersigned places. To that end, applicants were charged for contravening traffic regulations and paid deposit fines.”

Here is the summary of his lockdown review announcement.

  • All gatherings indoors restricted to 250 people or outdoors to 500 people
  • Funerals limited to 50 people

Joy In South Africa As Ramaphosa Extends Beer Drinking Times

By A Correspondent- The Beer Association of South Africa (BASA) has received with happiness President Ramaphosa’s announcement of increasing beer consumption times under the new lockdown measures.

Ramaphosa last night moved the country’s lockdown from level Three (3) to level two (2).

The move from level lockdown three (3) would see a new curfew of 23h00 to 04h00; on-consumption alcohol sales being allowed seven(7) days a week until 22h00, and off-consumption sales from Monday to Friday between 10h00 and 18h00.

Soon after the announcement, BASA said it was cautiously happy with the new lockdown measures.

Below is the complete statement by BASA:

The further easing of restrictions will provide some reprieve to those businesses that have survived the four alcohol bans, which forced the industry to shut down for 161 days since March last year, putting just over 240 000 jobs at risk.

However, with a Covid-19 fourth wave expected to hit at the beginning of December, any recovery seen in the sector will be eradicated should government enforce another ban over the festive season. With this period also being the busiest time for liquor outlets and establishments, another alcohol ban will no doubt be the final nail in the coffin for thousands of businesses and the jobs they support.

BASA, therefore, continues to call for a proper consultation by the government before considering any new regulations to stop the spread of Covid-19 over the coming months. Our industry, and the over 450 000 livelihoods it supports, can simply not afford the President announcing another immediate ban on the legal trade of alcohol without any prior warning or an opportunity to properly engage with the government.

The beer industry will continue rolling out reasonable interventions that can save both lives and livelihoods during the pandemic. We call on all liquor outlets and establishments to continue playing their part by enforcing the wearing of masks and social distancing in their establishments. We also call on consumers to drink in moderation and continue taking the necessary precautions to protect themselves and others from Covid-19.

Finally, we also encourage all South Africans over the age of 18 years to get vaccinated. This is the only way we will be able to reopen the economy and resume our normal lives fully.

Chisango Back In Court For Perjury Trial

By A Correspondent| Trial for corruption accused and suspended City of Harare Town Clerk, Hosiah Abraham Chisango kicked off at the Harare Magistrates Court on Friday.

Chisango is answering to perjury after he reportedly filed a false written statement claiming that land developer George Katsimberis built a show house at Pokugara Estate without approved plans when in fact those plans were approved by the City of Harare.

It is the state’s case that on the 2nd of October 2018 at the High Court of Zimbabwe Civil Division, Harare, Chisango, in his personal capacity and as well as the Town Clerk of City of Harare, jointly filed a sworn affidavit under High Court case number HC 8943/18 and lied in that affidavit that there was no payment that was made to the City of Harare for the approval of building plans which were attached to Georgios Katsimberis’ founding affidavit.

Katsimberis’ affidavit for the same case had proof of payment attachments showing that US$3,707 had been paid towards the approval of the said plans.

Chisango and other City of Harare officials namely Priscila Charumbira, Isaiah Zvenyika Chawatama, Samuel Nyabezi and Laston Taonezvi are also accused of acting inconsistent with their duties by showing disfavour to Katsimberis by claiming that he had built a show house on stand 9 of 21 on consolidated stand number 19559 of 1 828 Harare Township corner Teviotdale and Whitwell Borrowdale Harare without approved plan while favouring Pokugara Properties (Pvt) Ltd in a dispute between complainant in this case and Pokugara Properties (Pvt) Ltd which is owned by controversial businessman Kenneth Raydon Sharpe.

The state was represented by Zivanai Macharaga.

Simba Suffered A Stroke That Left Him In A Coma And Paralysed On His Left Side.

Melissa D Smith | My partner Simba suffered a stroke…that left him in a coma and paralysed on his left side. When he woke up, his hospital in Sheffield presented him with a bill for £93,000 for the life-saving treatment he had been given.

Simba on his hospital bed

Simba has lived in the UK for most of his life, but because of his immigration status he is being charged for his NHS care.

Our local community in Sheffield have launched the Justice for Simba campaign. Together, we are calling for:

  1. All of Simba’s debt to be written off, and Sheffield Trust to oppose charging for migrants
  2. The Home Office to grant him refugee status
  3. An end to all NHS charging

Simba’s family moved to the UK from Zimbabwe in 2004. In 2009 his dad Victor had to apply for asylum after his criticism of Robert Mugabe’s government led to a warrant being issued for his arrest. When Simba turned 18, he applied for asylum himself but his claim was unjustly refused. All of Simba’s family has been fighting for many years to have their right to asylum recognised.

Please sign the petition to support Simba!

It’s likely Simba would not have had a stroke if he had been able to access the NHS services he needed. He was known to have a blood clotting condition and had been receiving treatment, but after his first few appointments, Simba got a call from the finance department demanding payment of over £6000 for his treatment.

The hospital was forced to make Simba pay upfront for his appointments – policies being enforced by the Home Office. He could not afford it. He did not see his specialist team for months, when he suddenly had a stroke and was taken to A&E. It was then that we received his bill for £93,000, for the life-saving treatment he received.

We are worried about Simba’s life, and we are determined to bring justice and dignity for him. Please help us by signing and sharing this petition as widely as possible. CLICK HERE TO SIGN THIS PETITION

SA Beer Industry On Cloud Nine Over Alcohol Drinking Adjustment Times

By A Correspondent- The Beer Association of South Africa (BASA) said it was cautiously welcoming the announcement by President Ramaphosa last night that the country would, from today, move to adjusted level two (2).

The move from level lockdown three (3) would see a new curfew of 23h00 to 04h00; on-consumption alcohol sales being allowed seven(7) days a week until 22h00, and off-consumption sales from Monday to Friday between 10h00 and 18h00.

Inside A ZUPCO NRZ Train

By Nkhambala | Before I narrate my train experience which I got yesterday, I have to tell you that it was not my first train ride. I boarded a train before back in 2008 when I was coming from Mutare. Back then, the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) had trains which plied 2 intercity routes, the Harare – Bulawayo, and Harare – Mutare routes.

The train had an option for one to book in a sleeper locomotive so that you can travel while sleeping as it travelled through the night. Most of the beds in the sleeper carriage were old and uncomfortable, but good enough to provide some comfort for one to sleep.

From then, I did developed interest in trains again. But recently when government announced that it was merging NRZ and the Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) in efforts to contain transport problems which are rife in Harare, I grew an interest to board one to find out if the trains are still good enough to ferry people considering how old they are as they were made in the 1960s. .

When I arrived at the NRZ station in Harare, the site was a bit unpleasant to see. Old and Rusty locomotives is what welcomed me. What instantly comes to one’s mind is how on earth did the country neglect such great infrastructure? But that is a story for another day!

I was warmly welcomed by ZUPCO stuff members at the gate where you pay your train fares. How much is it from town to Mufakose? I asked. Its Rtgs$40! An ever smiling young lady replied. This is very affordable, I said to myself while entering the premises. I was expecting to see a few people inside considering how people ridiculed the introduction of trains to provide public transport on social media when it was announced. But Alas, thousands of people where making their way to board the train.
I asked one of the employees at NRZ if people were coming in their numbers everyday and he said, “My friend, wait until departure time and see how many people will be chasing it to get in.“

When I got inside the train, I noticed that the seats and the general outlook was that of an old set up. But what I liked is that it was very clean and fresh. I believe the NRZ stuff took their time to clean up the trains. The most interesting part was the environment inside.
Everyone seemed excited to be in the train. Young people were excited to feel the experience of riding a train which was probably their first time. Older people were excited by being spared from the hustle of waiting long queues for busses in ranks.
A gentleman who was seated on the same seat as mine called Tonderai said queuing for busses had become a hustle to him so he came to board the train to avoid that. “I stay in Mufakose. For me to board a bus, I would wait for 2 hours in the queue. But here you don’t wait in the queues, you just pay an get in. So I think this is a better option than waiting for buses, “ said Tonderai.

While having conversations with various people, a loud horn started beeping. An NRZ train worker got inside and started telling people all the safety precautions which passengers should follow while boarding the train.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we are about to take off. Make sure you are seated when the train starts moving. Those who are standing must hold on to something to avoid falling because the train may shake you when it starts moving. I encourage people to avoid disembarking on a moving train because it is a dangerous thing to do,” the gentleman said.
From that moment, the train started moving. The ride was not so smooth as it was shaky. I assume the rail road is no longer smooth hence the shaking. The train also moved very slow, about 60km per hour. But as we were traveling, I realized that the train arrived earlier than most motorists because the latter face traffic congestion in the roads.
We made our first stop at an industrial site called lions where industrial workers were picked up. These people are the ones that are benefiting most from the service as they are picked and dropped at the doorstep of their work places.

We made 2 more stops in industrial areas before we arrived in Mufakose. At the stop, busses were waiting to shuttle people to their respective destinations on the same Rtgs$40 ticket.

The train made its final stop at Cabs area in Budiriro where everyone finally disembarked. It took us 25 minutes from town to Budiriro.
From this trip, I came to appreciate that a lot of people who live along the route have welcomed the introduction of the train services whole heartedly because it has made traveling much easier for them.
Some even enquired if the train was available on weekends because they no longer want to go through the hustle of struggling to board busses.

An NRZ official revealed that weekend trips would be introduced soon, subject to demand.

What I think should be improved however is the lighting inside. The trains have no lights so passengers travel in total darkness when the sun sets. NRZ workers gave us assurances that the lights would be fixed.
But I believe they need to be fixed as a matter of urgency to make boarding them pleasant.

The question in everyone’s mind at this moment is this: Is the Zupco train initiative good? My answer from the personal experience I had is this: the train is serving its purpose!

Thousands of dwellers in Mufakose and Budiriro can now travel without much hustles.

The train itself carries triple the amount of people carried by busses. That alone is very instrumental in decongesting urban areas. It is an undeniable fact that the trains are old and in need of attention. I believe with the beginning of this initiative, NRZ will start working on improving its locomotives and railway lines for the better. The lack of activity at NRZ might have been a major inspiration for neglect.

But with activity restored, more attention will be given towards resuscitating the national trains.

Stunner Speaks Out On Competing For Music Fans

By A Correspondent- Zim Hip-hop star, Desmond Chideme, AKA, Stunner has said that he had since past the age of competing with other local musicians.

Writing on his social media platforms last week, Stunner said musicians should concentrate on entertaining the crowds, than comparing each other’s music.
Below is what he wrote:
Hi guys , to which page or whom it may concern…….. Can we please move on way past this ! I would be ashamed of myself if ever I woke up 22yrs later in the game and I’m still trying to be the best better than whoever, I have done my part and continue to do what I can for rap music even though I switch here and there into other genres for the love of music. I competed when I was little boy but now I just want to have fun with my fellow musicians and create crazy sounds from kanindo to hip hop . A lion does not walk around the jungle trying to prove its a lion and neither does a shark in the water. I don’t think myself , @winkyddibigman or @jahprayzah , @mrputiti even vabati vaJehova are in the studio now trying to be the king of anything but they are just trying to make good music for the people and in the process make a living. These posts are childish especially when you are posting people who have proved themselves artistically. All my respect goes to every Zim artist doing his or her thing to entertain households in these trying time.

German Chancellor Inspires The World

By A Correspondent-The outgoing German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, has inspired the world for leaving her position after taking the western country’s economy to be the strongest in the world.

The world’s most respected Leader, a physics and chemistry scientist turned politician, the Chancellor of Germany, leaves office this October.

She is credited for leading the most robust economy in the EU and one of the most important in the world.

Throughout year tenure of offices, she received no free state service, no housing, no electricity, no gas, no entertainment expenses, no personal chef, no water, no free phone from the Federal Republic of Germany budget, and lived her life humbly like any other German citizen.

She does her own shopping, carries her own shopping bags, pays for her purchases, and if she receives a parking ticket, she pays out of her own pocket.

A journalist recently asked her, “Do you remember I took a photo of you in this same dress ten years ago?

She told him: “My mission is to serve my fellow Germans, not to be a model.”

Merkel was elected Chancellor of Germany in 2005. She served as Leader of the Opposition from 2002 to 2005 and as Leader of the Christian Democratic Union from 2000 to 2018.

A member of the Christian Democratic Union, Merkel is the first female chancellor of Germany

Floodgates As Unvaccinated Church Members Granted Permission

Bulawayo

Floodgates were opened when Government lifted the ban on public gatherings and gave churches the green light to accommodate unvaccinated members during services.

In the past few weeks churches in the city had a low turnout of congregants as they only allowed vaccinated people to attend.

However, yesterday the numbers increased because everyone including unvaccinated people such as children, were allowed to attend.

Cabinet last month gave churches the green light to resume physical services with only those fully-vaccinated against Covid-19 allowed to attend and this resulted in a low turnout.

The regulations have since been relaxed in line with Level Two protocols announced by President Mnangagwa last week.

According Statutory Instrument 228B of 2021 of the Public Health Act (COVID-19 Prevention, Containment and Treatment) (National Lockdown) (Number two) (Amendment) Order, 2021 (No. 34), gatherings inclusive of church services and burials that were permitted 50 and 30 people respectively can now take up to 100 people.

Vaccination cards can, however, be demanded only in areas that have been designated as Covid-19 hotspots.

President Mnangagwa last week also met representatives of church bodies during which it was agreed that church gatherings could take place without demanding vaccination cards, as long as they adhere to the WHO prescribed guidelines and the Government cap of 100 people.

Worshippers throughout the country had gone for months without congregating in their places of worship in line with the renewed Level Four lockdown regulations initially announced in January by Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga, who is also Health and Child Care Minister.

Some churches had resorted to conducting virtual services and livestreaming their services.

A Chronicle news crew yesterday visited selected churches in Bulawayo and observed that there was largely some form of adherence to the prescribed measures aimed at curbing the spread of Covid-19 such as maintaining social distancing and hand sanitising.

At Brethren in Christ Church (BICC), Bulawayo Central where Women Affairs, Community and Small and Medium Enterprises Development Minister Dr Sithembiso Nyoni was also in attendance, the news crew observed that congregants were being sanitised and their temperatures were also being checked at the gate.

Inside the church, congregants maintained social distancing with less than 100 people in attendance.

Senior Pastor in charge of BICC Bulawayo Central, Rev Ndabezinhle Nyathi said they conducted three services with all health protocols being observed.

“Our numbers were low and the first service had about 60 people and the other two had less than 50 and this was caused by the confusion revolving around the issue of vaccination. Most people wanted to come but because they are not vaccinated, they couldn’t as they were not yet sure,” he said.

“By next week, we expect to have more people attending our services since the issue of vaccination has been clarified. We are however, continuing livestreaming and posting our sermons and musical audios on various social media platforms so that we reach out to everyone.”

Rev Nyathi said as a church they continue to urge their members to get vaccinated.

“People were quite excited when we resumed face-to-face services. What touched me mostly is that some of our congregants lost their loved ones to Covid-19 hence today’s service centred on comforting them. The services were more of a memorial session as we remembered our congregants who succumbed to the coronavirus,” he said.

The Apostolic Faith Mission of Africa (AFMA) leader Reverend Rosewell Zulu said they were excited to congregate at their traditional place of worship and thanked President Mnangagwa for easing the lockdown regulations by lifting the ban on church gatherings.- Chronicle

ZIFA Cancels Meeting On Logarusic Fate

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has denied claims that two of its board members are vehemently opposed to the sacking of Warriors coach Zdravko Logarusic fearful that their alleged corrupt deal with the Croat will be exposed.

Journalist Stanley Gama claimed “lunatics” at ZIFA are unwilling to show the Croat the exit door because they went into a corrupt payment deal with him. Gama posted on Twitter:

I’m being told that the lunatics at ZIFA are dragging their feet making a decision on Loga fearing he could expose two board members who allegedly went into a payment deal with the controversial coach. My sources say that whatever Loga is getting as salary, he is sharing with them.

The two corrupt board members are the ones who are fiercely defending him. So how will our football develop when we have such greedy board members? They must go together with Loga.

In response, ZIFA challenged Gama to provided the evidence to back up his claims and taunted him for “seeking relevance by tweeting falsehoods”. The Association said:

We are very aware of your agenda @gama_stanley to hoodwink innocent football lovers and whip up some emotions. This is very unethical and coming from a senior journalist. What do you teach your juniors?

ZIFA is not an individual cde. It is very clear that you are propagating unsubstantiated claims. Present evidence cde and stop masquerading as a Twitter ‘Warrior’. By tweeting baseless claims you are continuously losing credibility as a journalist.

The ZIFA board was scheduled to hold an emergency meeting on Friday but the indaba failed to take place due to the unavailability of some members.

The meeting was set to seal the fate of Logarusic who has come under fire for poor performance.

The Croat has only won one match and drew four in the fourteen games he has taken charge of since his appointment in February last year.

Joel Ngodzo Returns To Bosso

BULAWAYO based Premier Soccer League (PSL) teams have declared their readiness for the resumption of football this month, with the bulk of them putting in arrangements to start training.

Highlanders, Bulawayo City, Bulawayo Chiefs and Chicken Inn are the Bulawayo based PSL teams. Following all sporting activity being allowed in the country last Tuesday, the PSL advised clubs to adhere to Covid-19 protocols in relation to testing and vaccination in preparation for the resumption of football.

Clubs are expected to start training from tomorrow ahead of continuation of action in the Chibuku Super Cup at the end of this month. Highlanders media and communications officer, Ronald Moyo said as has been the norm, they should be doing Covid-19 tests before the coaches take over.

“As has become the new normal, we will conduct Covid-19 tests first, then from there the coaches’ programme will then resume. The club is working on all those logistics to make sure that we resume training early this week,” Moyo said.

Some Highlanders players were said to have walked out of the club after their employer failed to pay salaries but Moyo said the only changes in the just ended transfer window was the registration of players who could not participate in the opening matches in the Chibuku Super Cup as they did not have international transfer certificates.

Joel Ngodzo, Winston Mhango, Keith Mavhunga, Lynoth Chikuhwa, Peter Muduhwa are now registered, which means coach Mandla “Lulu” Mpofu can use them when the Chibuku Super Cup matches resume.

“Our squad is unchanged, serve for the fact that some players who were not registered are now registered and available for the coaches. It’s a transfer window that came when there was no football, when there was uncertainty about the resumption of football. So, there are no squad changes to talk about,” said Moyo.

Bulawayo Chiefs media officer, Thulani “Javas” Sibanda indicated that they plan to conduct Covid-19 testing prior to embarking on fine tuning sessions.

“Yes, Bulawayo Chiefs is ready to resume training protocols, we are scheduled for Covid-19 testing soon before we hit the training ground. We made action towards beefing our squad and we will soon make an announcement of our final squad,” said Sibanda.

Amakhosi Amahle have been busy on the transfer market with Elvis Moyo, Ian Nekati and Mandlenkosi Gasela some of the notable signings from the just ended transfer window.- The Sunday News

Hallucinating And Fabricating Falsehoods About Chamisa and Hichilema

When Activism Loses Its Cause-And-Effect!

By Nomazulu Thata | Activism has multiple dimensions and interpretations: Every individual defines for herself/ himself what one wants to achieve at the end of the day.

NOMAZULU-THATA

There was an article written by one Mandla Ndlovu insinuating flagrant and daylight fabrication about the “connection and the friendship” between Chamisa and Hichilema. In his style we all know best, Nomusa Garikai picked it up espousing the article and spinning it out in hot political verbosity and air to get traction and attention of the frontline states and beyond. They are again informed by activist Nomusa about the “terroristic” intentions of the newly elected President Hakainde Hichilema and his friend Nelson Chamisa.

It is either personal hatred against Chamisa and Hichilema that has driven Nomusa Garikai to write a reckless article peddling falsehoods he knows will attract attention to Zanu PF to react: Or is Garikai so envious about these two politicians who are apparently friends. Both suspicions are not far from the truth. A genuine political activist would have challenged the contents of the article by Mandla Ndlovu as figment of his hallucinations and dismiss it with contempt it deserves. Nomusa Garikai’s article, however, is meant to feed Zanu PF with a different narrative about Hichilema’s success presidential victory: an action meant to fuel Zanu to systematically injure Chamisa and Hichilema. According to my definition of activism, that is not genuine activism. In Shona we say: “huroi” in Ndebele “ubuthakathi” to think and act in the manner Nomusa has done.
Nomusa Garikai’s sudden spin of his activism is intended to harm he is otherwise an above average and politically enlightened persona about SADC regional politics and its challenges. Has his activism turned suddenly to inexcusable hatred for Chamisa especially? His article is saying loudly: Zanu, look closely into the “relationship” between Chamisa and Hichilema, they are planning something in the continent of Africa. He is putting Chamisa in a situation that will hurt him personally together with Hichilema. Garikai knows the monster Zanu PF and how it will pick this message up and dwell on it in the style we know best. We talk about satanic verses! Be it Chamisa or Hichilema have the capacity to destabilize Africa.

In Ndebele we say, you do not need to carry around harmful herbs to be labelled a witch; harmful thoughts that one harbours about the other could be witchy. When has Nomusa started talking the language of “western sponsored Chamisa and Hichilema”? This is meant to deliver Chamisa and Hichilema on the spotlight of Zanu done deliberately to attract Zanu attention to react on both Chamisa and Hichilema. Politics is indeed a dirty game: but when even activists who are supposed to be vanguards of positive change start to insinuate and begin to be peddling falsehood to people and politicians whom they oppose, then it defeats the purpose of activism altogether.

I happen to know Nomusa Garikai his real name; an active blogger that wants to cover his activism is several names, which is also good in the way he chooses. He has penned more than 500 articles most of which are repetitive in their content: I do not how many times he has written articles and recycled them with the same message and content: hundred times? Seeing his articles without reading it, we can already predict what has been written; The MDC leaders have failed to implement even one democratic reform in five years, FIVE YEARS, of the GNU. Writes Nomusa Garikai. This has become his daily song and prayer for years and curiously he is so full of it!

How the MDC-Tsvangirai failed to implement one single reform in their GNU has been the song sung to us permanently we cannot even breath because of this one fact; by the way it is a fact: the question is, saying it a thousand times will solve what? Repetition of a fact of 2009 is going to change what in 2021? Will his repetition of the same meant to reverse time or the calendar to 2009 – 2013 and as according to his wishes, MDC-T starts to negotiate genuine reforms with Zanu PF that will usher and guarantee free and fair elections in future?

Wilbert Mukori or Nomusa Garikai or Patrick Guramatunhu does not listen to advice from anyone: He thinks this repetition is right course of activism. Mention to anyone the name Nomusa Garikai or Wilbert Mukori, the reaction is the same. People out there are fed-up of the same message coming from him.
Curiously, Nomusa Garikai’s articles quotes Albert Einstein’s famous statement a thousand times. If you do something repeatedly expect different results are clear symptoms of insanity. Strangely he does not realize that this statement can apply to him equally. To continuously pound on a narrative repeatedly: MDC forfeited reforms during the GNU period of 2009 to 1013 is symptomatic madness: There is no rational: several people have commented on this fact but because Nomusa Garikai has pedestalized himself so high, will not take advice from simpletons. He thinks his political bar is beyond reach: Such people are dangerous. People of the mould of Nomusa Garikai, given power to rule will be despots and at the same breath justify their despotic rule intelligently.

“The opposition MDC-Alliance and the recently elected UPND of Zambia, have reportedly developed a plan to annihilate all long-standing ruling parties, especially former Liberation Movements in Africa by 2030 a senior MDC Alliance official from Harare who spoke to this reporter on condition of anonymity said.” Nomusa Garikai repeats this statement with hidden intentions bent to fuel a narrative and to spin falsehood into facts. This is the recklessness of activism without proper direction that is grounded on ideology but instead fuelled with hatred to anyone who opposes his views. The powerful messages that activists have in societies cannot be wished away. In that vein Nomusa knows the power of his articles and how they influence even governments. To say he cannot be blamed because Mnangagwa Zanu have already bagged Chamisa and Hichilema as targets to eliminate is wholly irresponsible and perfidious. Nomusa Garikai equally wants the two politicians eliminated: the purpose of his article.

The young man Chamisa could be our son. We dislike his politics and hence we critique him to lay bare his political shortcomings as means to reviews his political trajectory for the betterment of the party. We do not criticize him to deliver him to murderous party Zanu that pries on the blood of the innocent people. I wrote passionately about the intensions of Zanu to incarcerate President Chamisa having declared him a terrorist. Curiously, we never read one article from Nomusa Garikai condemning Zanu regime for labelling Chamisa a terrorist. Was Nomusa Garikai okay with Zanu accusing Chamisa of terrorism which he is not?
I believe in the sanctity of life that is precious. Much as I am anti-Chamisa politically, I least want to see him harmed by Zanu PF who have no respect for life. I am bringing home the message that activism must have positive meaning and direction. We must ask questions constantly; what we want to achieve at the end of the day. Activism should not be seen to give fuel to situations harmful to the people intended to liberate. True activism demands from us to standing back and reflecting the cause and effect of our political conviction.

It is easy for us activists to lose focus when we personalize issues frustratingly when we do not get the intended results we want. Activism has never been about political end results but about shedding light to politics that will be taken on board by politicians, and they orient their political trajectories with the critiques we shall have highlighted.

I hope Nomusa Garikai, or Patrick Guramatunhu or Wilbert Mukori will learn to take advice from lesser mortals. You are not alpha and omega in the scheme of things. You have been in the trenches of activism for long hence it is easy to pedestalize yourself as the only voice in the room. You are advised to lean back: take a break. Continue to critique Chamisa but do not affect critiques that is detrimental to him personally. At the end of the day Chamisa is our son. How would I feel if someone picked on my Nqobizitha, wrote an article detrimental to his person? Empathy should be our signature in activism; if not, then better leave activism altogether: Quitting and resigning from political activism is better than to turn into a counter revolutionary.

We ask President Hakainde Hichilema to watch his back carefully. He can be assassinated by hidden forces building up against him in the region and beyond. Ba Hakainde Hichilema tili kabotu chitondimwe: Please be careful. Your fight for democracy successfully is an envy to many who are not happy about your rise to power. Be careful: watch your back: Lungu may not harm you but despots in the region may do. Do not be afraid to create democratic space for millions in SADC region: To be careful is not synonymous to be fearful of enemies. I am sending this article to Lusaka Times so that President Hakainde Hichilema can get this information somehow or other. Giving this caution, Zambian secret service may be aware of. Please guard your newly found Zambian democracy jealously.

VP Chiwenga Fingered In Chadzamira’s Arrest

By A Correspondent- The arrest of the Minister of State for Masvingo Province and Zanu PF provincial chairperson Ezra Chadzamira is a direct result of escalating factional battles in the former revolutionary party.

Prof Madhuku Tears Into Mwonzora, Chamisa

By A Correspondent- National Constitutional Assembly President, Professor Lovemore Madhuku has blasted MDC-Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa and Douglas Mwonzora of the MDC-T, saying that none of the two can lead the country.

Madhuku who was addressing Twitter spaces on Sunday said both Chamisa and Mwonzora lost; they were nowhere near the original MDC party’s founding principles.

Madhuku said the two leaders of the MDC factions were clueless.

Impoverish Povo Forced To Subsidise War Veterans – Such Medieval Serfs Have No Free Vote

By Nomusa Garikai- As much as Zimbabwe’s opposition would like to pretend Zimbabwe is on the same political trajectory of peaceful free, fair and credible elections as Zambia; the reality on the ground tells it own story.

“On 22 August close to 30 villagers were forced to convene at Nyamuyaruka Business Centre, Ward 10 in Mudzi North. It is alleged that Zanu-PF activists Portia Chijaka and John Sarafunga forced villagers to convene before forcing them to contribute money to assist local war veterans and war collaborators. Villagers with no cash were told that they could support the process through providing maize grain and groundnuts,” reported Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP).

“Vendors were told that only Zanu-PF supporters would be allowed to sell their wares at the Murewa vegetable market.”

In Chegutu district, artisanal miners, “makorokoza”, have realigned themselves with the ruling party Zanu PF and are now terrorising residents.

Ever since the country’s independence in 1980, rural areas have remained Zanu PF strongholds not because the people in the rural areas have prospered in any way. Indeed, the rural people are at the bottom of the economic packing order and therefore have suffered the consequences of the country’s economic melt down the hardest.

Zanu PF’s continue political hold on the rural populous is derived from the  party’s total control and domination of ever facade of human life in the rural areas. The party operatives have but reduced the rural people into medieval serfs beholden to the overbearing landlords – Zanu PF operatives. The villagers are frog marched to attend Zanu PF rallies and, when the time comes, to vote for the party. They do not dare do otherwise!

“Matabeleland South province, in Silozwana village, Matobo North, a Zanu-PF activist identified as Martin Sibindi allegedly intimidated villagers telling them that they shall be monitored if they vote for the MDC Alliance,” continued the ZPP report.

“It is said that Sibindi made these remarks during a community meeting as he was encouraging people to register to vote. It is reported that Sibindi warned that a mechanism had been drawn up to monitor and punish those that might vote for other MDC Alliance and other parties.”

This was not an empty threat as Zanu PF has devised various ways of knowing whom the individual voted for. In the 2008 elections, for example, there were 2 000 Polling Stations or 10 Polling Stations in each constituency. Each Polling Station had the same constituency voters’ roll so the voters could cast their vote in anyone of the 10 Polling Stations.

Zanu PF, without consulting anyone else, has since increased the number of Polling station to over 11 000 in 2018 or 50 Polling Station per constituency. This time there was a Polling Station specific voters’ roll and so only those of the roll could vote. With 500 or so on the voters’ roll it was much easier to guess how each one of them would have voted, especial in a rural community setting where there are few strangers.

How can the elections be free, fair and credible when the majority of the rural voters, 50% plus of the voters, are hostages to one contestant, Zanu PF?

Zanu PF has many other ways of ensuring electoral advantage such as denying the Zimbabweans in the diaspora the vote. There are 3 million plus Zimbabweans in the diaspora, a considerable number given Mnangagwa won the 2018 presidential race with 2.4 million votes or 50.8% of the cast votes.

Mnangagwa promised the Zimbabweans in the diaspora will have the vote in 2023. Zanu PF has since announced the diasporans will not have the vote “as long as the sanctions imposed by the West on some Zanu PF leaders remain”.  Why ordinary Zimbabweans should be denied their fundamental right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country over something they had no say over beggars belief!

At least 2 million of the Zimbabweans in the diaspora are in SADC countries or some other countries that have not imposed sanctions on the Zanu PF leaders. Why are these Zimbabweans being denied the vote too?

How can the elections be legal, free, fair and credible in when 3 million Zimbabweans out of a potential 8 million voters are being blatantly denied the vote?

President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia was elected last month with 60% of the popular vote. In 2008 Morgan Tsvangirai garnered 73% of the popular vote, by the late Robert Mugabe’s Freudian slip, and still that was not good enough to secure him the presidency.

After 41 years of rigged elections it is clear as day that Zimbabwe will never ever hold free, fair and credible elections without first implement the democratic reforms designed to take away Zanu PF’s carte blanche powers to hold the rural voters to ransom, deny whatever segment of the electorate the vote, etc.

There is a simple reason why Nelson Chamisa and his MDC A friends are ignoring the overwhelming evidence the 2023 elections will not be free, fair and credible and remain resolutely determined to participate in the elections. It is the same simple reason why Chamisa and the 21 others contested the 2018 presidential rat race. The same simple reason Chamisa, Tendai Biti, Morgan Tsvangirai and the rest of the MDC leaders failed to implement even one reform during in the 2008 to 2013 GNU. The simple reason in all above is greed.

Mugabe bribed Tsvangirai and company with the trappings of high office during the GNU and they forgot about implementing the democratic reforms. Mnangagwa is dangling the offer of a few gravy train seats, a cut of the annual Political Party Finance Act payout, generous perks to the presidential candidates who join POLAD and ambassadorship to those opposition politicians who have proven particularly affable to the Zanu PF dictatorship.

The people of Zimbabwe have risked property, livelihood, life and limb in the fight to end white colonial oppression and exploitation only to be betrayed by Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies. Zanu PF has denied the people their freedoms and rights including the right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country and even the right to life.

Zanu PF has murdered over 35 000 innocent Zimbabweans since independence in 1980 for the sole purpose of establishing and retaining the de facto one party dictatorship that has remained to this day.

The people of Zimbabwe have once again risked it all, personal comfort and even life, in the fight to end the Zanu PF dictatorship. There have been many golden opportunities to end the dictatorship but MDC leaders have wasted them all because they are corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent. Ever since the GNU debacle, MDC leaders are the one keeping Zanu PF in power by participating in flawed elections and thus giving vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy.

Zimbabwe has been drifting deeper and deeper into this man-made hell-on-earth for the last 41 years. As long as the country remains a Banana Republic, a pariah state, ruled by corrupt, incompetent and murderous thugs; there is no hope of stopping the rot. We have been stuck with this corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical Zanu PF regime because it rigged elections and denied us, the people, a meaningful say in the governance of the country.

Nothing of any substance or meaning can ever be accomplished until we cure cure ourselves of the curse of rigged elections and bad governance. Nothing!

It is most disconcerting that the MDC leaders, the men and women nation had risked all to elect into power for the express purpose of ending the Zanu PF dictatorship, are the ones helping to perpetuate it!

Both Zanu PF and MDC are equally determined that the 2023 elections must go ahead regardless of the overwhelming evidence Zanu PF is rigging the elections. There is little we can do to stop the elections going ahead. What we can do is making sure the elections are seen for what they are a farce and thus dismissed as null and void.

The 2008 to 2013 GNU failed to implement the democratic reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections, we must the opportunity created by the 2023 to produce a legitimate government to appoint a GNU that will implement the reforms.

“Marry Mubaiwa Is Not Forgotten At All”

By Nomazulu Tata- To be a woman activist in Zimbabwe is totally different from being an activist in the comforts of Germany.

I have come to terms with this fact. Women activism especially in our societies does not mean firing unguided missiles to General Chiwenga in the hope to effect change in Merry’s life. The women in Zimbabwe especially those women’s organisation have realized just how vulnerable they are.

Zimbabwe is a military state, has been since the coup of 2017. People have been gunned down cold blood for demonstrating peacefully. Doctors who are taking care of Merry wellbeing are petrified with fear of writing any document that will relieve Merry of personally attending her numerous pending court cases. Merry is unwell, ill!

Yes, I was one of them who condemned women organisations in Zimbabwe for doing less regarding Merry’s case. It is not that they ignore her case: They know the Zanu government they are dealing with. General Chiwenga is a Zimbabwe government unto himself.

There is no law he will respect when it comes to his divorce case with Merry; her ‘money laundering accusation and the attempted murder cases Merry is accused of having committed against General Chiwenga. The women’s organisations have their hands tight to render assistance to Merry. That said, it does not mean we have resigned from assisting her even emotional assistance.

Women especially those on the ground are weighing their options as to how to assist in her case without being victimized themselves. I realized early that women in these organisations have young families to look after. Courage is a virtue; not at the detriment of one’s personal circumstances.

A realistic approach to activism is paramount. Societies should not expect wonders from activists all the time: we do have our limitations. We should be allowed to say, “we tried but failed” and we take stock as to how we could in future approach circumstances different and effect change we want to see.

It is more realistic especially in despotic countries like Zimbabwe to focus on young girls’ empowerment so that they do not fall into situations such as that of Merry Chiwenga. We take Merry Chiwenga Mubayiwa as a textbook case whereby young women learn from her life circumstances.

Poverty determines how we perceive marriage institutions in Zimbabwe. Let us be fair to our girl-children and be transparent with them: facilitate wisdom with them that marriage is good and can be a successful if a girl-child goes to the institution marriage already empowered and never to see marriage as a gate way from poverty to riches.

Let us tell our girl-children that going to marriage with back-up plans is better than going to it empty-handed. Young women must see beyond marriages: go to marriage with questions in your mind: “what if” and “how am I going to survive in the event the marriage failed”? There should be a plan B in your mind all the time. Our economy is cash: for this reason we are compelled to think and focus on the economy at the home.

A man who tells a woman that money is not the most important thing in marriage is down-right deceitful; do not waste time with that relationship because it is based on falsehood. We remember the lyrics of Miriam Makeba she said in one of her songs: “never marry a man without those cows for mama and papa”. The same is true for a woman who will enter marriage institution with nothing to fall back on just in case of eventualities that may happen in the marriage.

Let us take it upon ourselves to ask daringly questions it did not matter how painfully true they can be: if a young woman tells us she wants to get married. “What have you to show in the marriage ahead of you?” Is it the man’s riches an incentive to marriage? Do you love him or are you seeing the position the man has attracted you to go for a kill?

I would imagine that Merry saw his riches and the position of General Chiwenga that made her fall for him. It does not hold water to tell us that the bedroom politics with the General did not add up. Those are immediate markers she should have considered long before she married him but not in the middle of a nasty divorce.

I would imagine that women’s organisations in Zimbabwe are pressed with immediate cases that demand their attention more than one media dominating case of Merry Mubayiwa. The number of cases related to domestic violence; the child marriages are prevalent.

We had a case of a girl as old as 14 who died giving birth. Her early marriage; was not yet biologically mature to give birth. I would imagine that the focus is mostly on major cases in hundreds. We have poverty levels that are a death sentence to girl-children as they are sold off to “rich men” so that the family gets pittances of lobola to survive another day.

Reading the daily social media: the cases of women murdered by their partners and spouses are alarmingly high. The global pandemic exacerbated a fragile economic destitution without the bailout from our government. Information about the dangers Covid 19 is now dawning on the societies:

Covid 19 is not a myth but real. Children are not getting formal education; this factually means that there will be a section of our children who will lose out completely from getting formal education. I can imagine that women’s organisations are focusing on painful issues of this nature on their hands.

Women’s activism should focus mostly on service delivery in towns and cities. There is great concern about the quality of water and sanitation: raw sewages randomly penetrating homes in densely populated townships is now a daily occurrence. Our grandchildren play in open sewages.

Water is a basic human right enshrined in the UN convention. People who are mostly affected by the scarcity of water are women and girl-children the ones with domestic duties of fetching water for domestic use. Has it become typical African failures: we recently got heavy rains this last season, but all the rainwater was washed away to major rivers off to the oceans?

Immediately after the rains, BCC restricted water in most Bulawayo townships. To avoid insults I will not talk much or comment openly about glaring incompetence of BCC City fathers and mothers. It is not BCC specific but, in all towns, and cities in Zimbabwe.

Merry Mubayiwa is not forgotten at all. The gender-based challenges are overwhelming the women’s organisations. With limited resources women’s organisations can do that much. It is for this reason that we envisage a radio project that will focus on girl-children and women’s issues specifically.

The radio is not only for Zimbabwe, but for most of the regions of “Sub” Sahara Africa. The radio is a chance, a platform to give girl-children, young women; women of all ages must be given a voice to share similar challenges patriarchal societies share.

Cops Discover Truck Transporting Cargo Of Corpses

By A Correspondent- A weighbridge on the N2 at Somerset West in the Western Cape was temporarily closed after traffic officers discovered an overloaded truck was transporting a cargo of corpses.

The officers were conducting routine checks at the weighbridge on Saturday when the driver of the overloaded vehicle told them he was transporting bodies to the Eastern Cape.

Provincial transport and public works MEC Daylin Mitchell said the officers immediately closed the weighbridge and handed the scene over to the department of health and police for further investigation.

Health department spokesperson Mark van den Heever said the truck was transporting the bodies of people who had died from Covid-19 and other causes.

He said the driver worked for an undertaker and everything was in order. However, health department officials flagged issues relating to the state of the coffins which needed to be addressed when the truck arrived at its destination in the Eastern Cape.

A spokesperson for the company transporting the bodies reported that funeral undertakers were taking bodies to Gqeberha as local crematoriums in Cape Town were unable to process the large volume of corpses.

The company that organised the transportation of the bodies said after the inspection by the authorities, another truck was organised, and both trucks were given a green light to continue the journey as all the coffins had the necessary paperwork.

Police spokesperson Col Andrè Traut said the truck was released after a preliminary investigation. “An inquiry was registered to look into the circumstances surrounding the matter,” said Traut.

The weighbridge was reopened at 6pm on Saturday

Ngema And Tino Chinyani Suddenly Split

By Showbiz Reporter | In what has become any more snow break up the singer Simphiwe ‘Simz’ Ngema and model Tino Chinyani have fallen off each other.

In a too sudden twist, what was described as a “beautiful weekend” together quickly turned the opposite direction as it was announced the two are no longer together.

The couple who has a 1 year old son, Tiyani, confirmed the development on social media.

Ngema wrote saying:

“This has been one of my greatest experiences, a beautiful love story of two people fighting all the odds to be together. I have learnt to love again, to feel again, to live again and to smile again.

“I will forever be grateful for Everything you have taught me. I pray that God gives us the strength and wisdom to raise our beautiful son. @tiyani_chinyani we will always be great parents to you and we will always be there for you,” she said.

She continued pouring out: “No tears here, just lessons learnt and beautiful memories. I really had a beautiful fun weekend. Here’s to friendship and dope ass co-parenting.”

The spilt comes barely a week after Ngema wished Tino a happy birthday describing him as a happy responsible father.
