Norton legislator Temba Mliswa has predicted a big surprise in the 2023 elections saying the youth vote will constitute 50 percent.
Mliswa said only a massive turn out of ‘unhappy’ youths to vote will stop the military from interfering in the elections.
Below is Mliswa’s Twitter thread:
1/ Zim youth will speak in 2023. “There’s nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come” – Victor Hugo. I’m crystal clear about that. They’re watching what is going on, they know there are leaders who are brutal, who can kill and persecute @YARDzim2023
2/ So 2023 will be one big surprise and no one will do anything about it. Even the military which some may perceive will be involved, will not when the people come out in their numbers.
3/The youth vote will be big. YARD stats are very clear. In 2013 the youth vote was 5%. Mobilisation, through the various political party youth structures to raise awareness for youth participation and voter registration began. This exercise saw the youth vote rise to 30% in 2018
4/ Come 2023, you’re looking at the youth vote constituting over 50% of the total voters. You can’t stop that wave, you can’t stop that wave! Everything points to the fact that they’re not happy. @ZANU_PF_YL @MDCYouthAssembl @moysarzim @zimyouthcouncil
5/ Nothing is being addressed. Review Statements from ministers are political, there is no execution or implementation. Cabinet does not review the budget itself to see how they’ve performed. Resultantly, you have a big problem in all these areas.
By Showbiz Reporter | The socialite Madam Boss (Tyra Chikocho) was downgraded at the weekend by Zimbabweans who are complaining about her recent shooting down of a campaign against child marriage in Marange.
The development comes after she passed comments seen by many as mocking women who are protesting against the death of 14 year old child rape-victim, Memory Machaya.
Madam Boss’ FB page with comments downrating her.
Speaking in a live video during the week, Madam Boss said those complaining must do it on their own.
While flashing out a snarl, Madam Boss said:
“Congratulations ladies, after you have finished your protests…do set off on your journey to Marange on your own.
“After you have finished come back to us to announce to us what you have done, we will just post It saying: job well done.”

Meanwhile, Madam Boss, has offered an apology saying she was quoted out of context. Her unedited comment states:
Once Again Am Sorry to all my fans and all the corporates that I represent
I’m a very peaceful person who mostly like to keep to myself and stick to what I know best , entertaining my fans even those that mock me , I’ve been accused of many things and called different names but I have never cared because I know myself, I’m a mother and also a women and my heart bleeds each time I see a women or a girl child suffer. That’s why I always post any issues concerning abuse of a girl child . I chose not keep quiet on this occasion because the Marange shrine issue is one that has touched my heart and I’m pained that my live video a few days ago was taken out of context however I’m here today apologizing to each and everyone that was offended by that video and also to say I’m personally against child marriages and strongly hope the culprits of the Marange shrine be brought to book. JusticeForMemory.
But Zimbabweans have continued complaining her actions, with some comments stating that she does not support the girl child.
some of the comments.
Commenting on the development, Minesotta African Women Director Comfort Dondo said: “We need a new set of social influencers who have sober minds and renewed minds who are seeking to influence and inspire than just the popularity.
“On the instance of Madam Boss with these comments,in such an insensitive manner I am appalled, considering she is a woman who has a daughter and also followed by a lot of women.
A 40-year-old Mvurwi woman was arrested on Wednesday after she allegedly wrapped her newly born baby with a sack and a stone before throwing it in a dam.
Jessica Matadya of Dangamera farm, Mvurwi is assisting police with investigations.
Acting Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Naison Dhliwayo confirmed the case.
“I can confirm a case of infanticide where a mother threw her newly born baby in a dam wrapped in a sack, the dead body was discovered by little children who were playing close the dam and alerted their elders,” said.
A police report was filed at Velvekia police base and following a tip off the police managed to arrest Matadya who divulged how she committed the offense.

As churches open for sit-in services today, police have said they will keep a close eye to ensure worshippers heed regulations that all congregants must be fully vaccinated.
This comes after the Government last week said churches could reopen on condition their members have taken both doses of Covid-19 vaccines while also abiding by other existing coronavirus protocols.
Authorities ordered the closure of churches in June this year following a spike in Covid-19 cases as a result of the Delta variant that has seen increased deaths.
In an interview with The Sunday Mail, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said churches should comply with the vaccination order announced by Cabinet last week.
“Churches are implored to strictly comply with the vaccination directive for congregants as stipulated by Cabinet last week. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) will assist health officials to ensure compliance and arrest anyone defying the safety protocols. Police will also take action against those who might try to take advantage of the directive and produce fake vaccination certificates,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.
Church leaders from across the religious divide said their members were responsible citizens and would abide by the law.
A survey by The Sunday Mail yesterday showed that some churches in Harare were preparing for the safe reopening of sit-in services by fumigating premises while others mobilised personal protective equipment (PPE).
Church leaders said they would continue engaging the medical fraternity to initiate programmes that educate church members on the benefits of Covid-19 vaccination.
Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe (ACCZ) leader Archbishop Johannes Ndanga said after a long hiatus in lockdown, the decision to resume in, person church service was welcome.
He said the decision by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Government to get people vaccinated works and was not the work of the devil.
“I implore all apostolic sects to get vaccinated and follow all regulations, vaccines have been there since time immemorial and we believe they work. We encourage all leaders under ACCZ to make sure that only the fully vaccinated members attend in-person church services and those not yet vaccinated should not expose others and themselves to Covid-19,” he said, adding that most of their members had received both the first and second jab and were happy to be returning to church.
Leader of the Inter-Religious Association for Peace and Development Zimbabwe Bishop Albert Chikuni, whose organisation seeks to unite religions to achieve sustainable development, said vaccines were the best weapon to fight Covid-19.
“The efforts that are being put by the Government to make sure every life is preserved show that we have leaders that are proactive. We will continue to play our part in making sure people have been informed and educated on the vaccines,” he said, adding that the Government was better informed in matters of health than the religious organisations.
Zimbabwe Heads of Christian Denominations (ZHOCD) urged all churches to adhere to all safety precautions. ZHOCD represents all four strands of the Christian community: The Zimbabwe Council of Churches, which groups the older protestant and reformed churches, the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference, the Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe, and the Union for the Development of Apostolic and Zionist Churches in Zimbabwe and Africa
“The churches cautiously appreciate the process of opening up of society, business, and public life after almost two years of restrictions because of Covid-19. Though welcome by the churches, this staggered opening of churches on the condition of being vaccinated raises both theological and practical challenges,” reads part of the ZHOCD statement released last week.
The Methodist Church in Zimbabwe said they appreciated the announcements by Cabinet and would officially open their churches on August 20, after fumigation and procurement of personal protective equipment.
Covid-19 response chief coordinator Dr Agnes Mahomva said the Government would ensure strict enforcement of regulations as churches conduct their services.
“We have said this before, people should follow protocols, and law enforcement agents will also assist to ensure that people are following the recommended measures to contain the spread of Covid-19”

Johane Marange Apostolic church has confirmed the death of a married 14-year-old Johanne Marange Apostolic Church girl Memory Machaya.
Reports suggest that Memory Machaya, who was from Kwekwe, was forced to drop out of school when she was in form 1 to get married to Evans Momberume.
She died during childbirth at the church’s shrine in Marange, but, the location of her grave is in dispute. Her family insists that she was buried at the shrine soon after death, but the church denies the allegations.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi has said police were conducting investigations that were expected to be complete before Friday.
Momberume and everyone who may have facilitated that marriage will likely be arrested if it’s established that Memory was underage.
The church’s coordinator and spokesperson, Mr Nyasha Marange, told The Herald that the church would not stand in the way of law enforcement agents as they probe the case. He said:
It is true that Memory was married to Evans Momberume. The police should probe the case to its logical conclusion. She died after giving birth and her baby is with the Machayas in Kwekwe.
As the Johanne Marange Apostolic Church, we will not protect any of our congregants being investigated by law enforcement agents for any criminal offence, be it murder, rape or marrying a minor.
The police should carry out their duties without fear or favour. No one is above the law and if any of our congregants has a case to answer, let the due process take its course.
As a church, we have been preaching against marrying of minors. During our Saturday church meetings, elders take time to preach against child marriages. No one should be married before the age of 18.
Marange said he did not know where Memory was buried but vehemently denied that she was buried at the church shrine saying the tradition is that if one dies at the shrine, arrangements are made to ferry that person’s body to their place of origin.
Machaya family spokesperson Ms Alice Mabika last week insisted that her niece was buried at the shrine.- The Herald
Govt will intensify the fight against child abuse following the death of 14-year-old Memory Machaya while giving birth at a shrine in Manicaland, Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Professor Paul Mavima has said.
This comes amid revelations that the girl’s paternal aunt, who is reportedly married to one of the church’s top leaders, arranged for Memory to be married-off after taking her from her parents in Kwekwe.
In a statement, Prof Mavima said: “The ministry would like to reassure the general public that it will intensify its efforts in the fight against child abuse and requests the collaboration of communities in this cause because it takes a village to raise a child.
“The ministry further urges the nation to desist from violating children’s rights and to report all cases of actual or suspected abuse to make Zimbabwe a country where every child is free from abuse and thrives to attain their full potential for the betterment of the nation.”
Government, Prof Mavima said, had noted with concern an upsurge in sexual abuse, teen pregnancies and children being married off, especially since the outbreak of coronavirus. In an interview yesterday, Memory’s maternal aunt, Ms Alice Mabika, said her niece was taken from her parents by her paternal aunt who is married to one of the church’s top leaders.
“Her aunt, who is married to Mr Marange (one of the church leaders), took her to Mutare. She is the one who married her off in the church. My sister (Memory’s mother) didn’t grow up in this church. She only realised that her husband’s family goes to the church when she went to his rural home,” she said.
In a statement, the Zimbabwe Child Rights Coalition (ZCRC) said Memory’s sexual exploitation and circumstances surrounding her death were disturbing.
“As a result of that harmful practice, Memory was denied enjoyment and access to some of her fundamental rights, including education, as she was forced to drop out of school and her right to healthcare as she delivered her baby.”
Zimbabwe outlawed marriage of girls under the age of 18 in 2016, but the practice has continued in some religious sects.

Newly promoted Norwich City were handily beaten 3-0 by Liverpool to Carrow Road in the Premier League this evening.
The fixture represented a baptism of fire for the Canaries after their previous campaign in the top flight ended in a rather dismal relegation, with their attacking philosophy picked apart by higher quality teams.
They have lost their star player in Emiliano Buendia, who scored 15 goals and added 16 assists last season, but they have significantly bolstered their squad with the signings of Milot Rashica, Josh Sargent and Billy Gilmour among others.
All featured as Liverpool visited this evening, but they could not prevent Jurgen Klopp’s side from earning a straightforward victory as the Reds began their quest to reclaim the Premier League crown from Manchester City. Diogo Jota opened the scoring after pouncing on a heavy touch by teammate Mohamed Salah, stabbing home a finish from close range.
The Portuguese was replaced in the second half by Roberto Firmino, who required just five minutes to double Liverpool’s lead with a clinical finish.
Salah, who had added to his assist of Jota with a more intentional assist for Firmino, got on the scoresheet later with a whipped finish through a sea of bodies from the edge of the Norwich box. That fine strike rounded out the scoring and a comfortable victory for Klopp’s team. – Independent
AS the enervating Zanu-PF factional wars threaten to rip the party apart, Politburo member, Ziyambi Ziyambi this week launched a scathing attack on Mashonaland West provincial youth chairman Vengai Musengi for fanning divisions and attempting to grab lucrative gold mines using the party name.
Musengi is widely seen as a possible contender for the provincial chairmanship vacated by the Justice minister two months ago.
Speaking during a Zanu-PF provincial coordinating committee (PCC) meeting held at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) Thursday, Ziyambi deplored the use of social media to settle differences, saying organisations affiliated to Zanu-PF had no business setting the agenda, but should wait for directions from party leaders regarding party policies and stances.
Ziyambi chided Musengi for trying to wrestle gold mines using the party name.
“We have become the worst province, with Zanu-PF members taking their fights to social media. I was shocked when l was elevated to the Politburo, l thought it was going to be an occasion of celebrating, but it became an occasion for fighting for the chairmanship. It became an occasion to say ‘there is a vacancy and l should be the one to fill the position’. Insults were exchanged on social media, and up to this day members are still attacking one another,” Ziyambi said.
He added: “We don’t have party policy that says we must go out there and grab mines. We must mind our language and desist from actions that soil the party name by saying AAG has endorsed takeover of mines. Zanu-PF affiliates wait for the party to make policy and give direction accordingly which affiliates then follow.”
“I don’t want members claiming the Justice minister was there when it was agreed that property rights must be violated, no, no.”
Musengi, and his leadership team, are being accused of wrestling gold mines from an empowerment trust, Zuvarabuda Empowerment Trust (ZET), which is wholly owned by the governing party.
ZET has since lobbied President Emmerson Mnangagwa to stem the shenanigans of the party’s youth provincial leadership.
The accused officials including Musengi, Timothy Masviba, Givemore Nyanhowe and Taurai Bota, are also accused of name-dropping the party’s national leadership in the alleged takeover of gold mines in the province.
Musengi allegedly imposed his team at Pickstone Peerless Mine in Chegutu replacing the party youths who had initiated the empowerment project.
Also at Midwinter Mine (4 Stumper) Pickstone area, the all-too-powerful youth chairman is said to have imposed his gangs to loot gold.
Reports further claim that Musengi allegedly worked in cahoots with Breckridge Mining Directors to displace Danangwe District Youth Mining Co-operative (DDYMC).
DDYMC and Danangwe District Youth chairman Stewart Luckford are said to have resisted Musengi’s takeover bid.
Musengi allegedly claims he is the president’s nephew.- NewsDay

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC Alliance leader President Nelson Chamisa has described the imposition of command vaccination on churches as unfortunate.
The Zanu PF regime was supposed to hold wide consultations with church leaders before imposing command vaccination, according to President Chamisa.
He wrote on Twitter: “REOPENING OF CHURCHES…
Church representative bodies and pastors must have been engaged and consulted before any decision affecting them was made.
No Gvt command decision must be made without prior & adequate consultation with those to be affected. This we will change!Happy Sabbath.”
“Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex and harass certain of the church.
When Herod stretches forth his hand to vex the church..then Herod was eaten by worms and died. Acts 12:1 Blessed day friends,” added President Chamisa.
By A Correspondent | MDC Alliance vice president Hon Tendai Biti has said Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa is a hypocrite.
This follows the imposition of the vaccination programme on churches.
Mr Mnangagwa’s administration has announced that fully vaccinated congregants would be allowed to attend sit-in services.
“Whilst we support unreservedly the vaccination agenda , it is unconstitutional ,unlawful, discriminatory & hypocritical to require vaccination as a precondition to enjoyment of the right to worship.Only masking & social distancing should be a requirement,” argued Hon Biti.
He also accused the regime of stealing pension funds.
“A class action is required against the atrocities of pension funds, particularly @OldMutualZW & @FirstMutualLife
.Secondly Parliament must enact a Bill actualizing the recommendations of the 2017 Justice Smith s Commission of Inquiry into Conversion of Pension & Insurance Funds.”
By A Correspondent- The new defence minister Thandi Modise was recalled from parliament to the national cabinet allegedly to position her for the Vice President post in President Cyril Ramaphosa’s administration during his second term.
The Sunday Times reports that Modise’s name is said to be high on the list of female leaders Ramaphosa’s faction is considering lobbying ANC structures to support for the post of deputy president when the ANC elects new leaders next year.
Ramaphosa appointed Modise as his defense minister in place of Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula who was fired from the cabinet after she contradicted the president’s assertion that last month’s protests amounted to an insurrection. She later backtracked on her comments.
The ruling African National Congress’s parliamentary caucus said in a statement on Tuesday that Mapisa-Nqakula was its choice to fill Modise’s post.
This comes amid pressure on the ANC to elect a female leader. Ramaphosa’s opponents are flirting with the idea of putting up a woman to oppose him next year. The Ramaphosa grouping wants to counter that move — and show that Ramaphosa is preparing a woman to succeed him. Said an insider close to Ramaphosa:
Modise qualifies for the job. She’ll make a good deputy president.
In the run-up to the Nasrec conference in 2017, Ramaphosa publicly urged his supporters to vote for international relations minister Naledi Pandor for the deputy president position.
This comes as leaders of the ruling African National Congress are debating whether South African Deputy President David Mabuza is medically fit to remain in office.
The TimesLive reported that the party’s National Working Committee discussed Mabuza’s prolonged absence once he returned to South Africa following treatment in Russia for an unspecified ailment.
The 60-year-old Mabuza previously claimed to have been poisoned in 2015 and made his first visit to Russia then for specialist medical treatment.
Tinashe Sambiri| MDC Alliance Secretary General Honourable Charlton Hwende has pointed out that the popular movement is the authentic voice of the suffering citizens.
Despite frantic attempts by the Zanu regime to soil President Nelson Chamisa’s image, the vibrant leader’s popularity is rising with each passing day.
According to Hon Hwende, President Chamisa is poised for victory…
“The MDC Alliance led by Advocate Nelson Chamisa is the authentic voice of the toiling masses in Zimbabwe.
We are the biggest opposition party in Africa today operating under the most vicious autocratic dictatorship that is not afraid to kill opponents in daylight.
We have been stripped of everything Assets, MPs , Cllr’s and resources by this despotic regime but we are still standing strong because we have a PLAN.
You don’t get 2.6 Million voters without a PLAN. Ask anyone who has tried to form a political party how important it is to have a Solid PLAN.
We are growing daily and improving on the quantity and quality of the new cadres we are recruiting. In President Nelson Chamisa we trust and believe,” Hon Hwende wrote on his official Facebook page.
Tinashe Sambiri| MDC Alliance vice chairperson Hon Job Sikhala has scoffed at claims by the desperate Zanu PF regime that he was caught with a married woman.
Hon Sikhala dismissed the claims as desperate measures by the Zanu PF regime to soil his image.
Zanu PF intelligence sources say the regime is desperate to discredit perceived political rivals.

FIFA has launched #ReachOut, a campaign designed to raise awareness of the symptoms of mental health conditions, encourage people to seek help when they need it, and take actions every day for better mental health. With the support of past and current football players, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), FIFA is underlining the importance of greater awareness around mental health.
In launching #ReachOut, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, said: “This campaign is very important in raising awareness about mental health conditions and encouraging a conversation which could save a life. In FIFA’s Vision 2020-2023, we pledge our commitment to make football work for society, and I thank the players and Ms Enke, who have contributed to this important initiative.
“Depression and anxiety affect rising numbers of people worldwide, and young people are among the most vulnerable. Having a conversation with family, friends or a healthcare professional can be key. FIFA is proud to launch this campaign, supported by the World Health Organization and ASEAN to encourage people to #ReachOut.”
The campaign hears from FIFA Legends Aline, Vero Boquete, Cafu, Laura Georges, Luis García, Shabani Nonda, Patrizia Panico, Fara Williams and Walter Zenga. FIFA.com also speaks with former Bolton Wanderers and Team GB forward, Marvin Sordell, and Sonny Pike, who was labelled the ‘next big thing’ at 14, about their experiences with depression. Teresa Enke also discusses the pain of losing a loved one to suicide, and her work with the Robert Enke Foundation.
Depression affects more than 260 million people in the world while around half of all mental health conditions start by age 14. Suicide is the fourth leading cause of death in young people aged 15-29. Among active football players, 23 per cent report sleep disturbance, while 9% have reported depression and a further 7% suffer from anxiety. Among retired players, these figures increase, with 28% struggling to sleep and depression and anxiety affecting 13% and 11% respectively (source: FIFPRO)
Working from home, unemployment, school closures and social isolation have affected people around the world during the COVID-19 pandemic; the challenges for people with mental health conditions, for whom access to treatment has, in many cases, been disrupted, are even greater.
“As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, it is as important as ever to look after our mental and physical health,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization.
“WHO is delighted to support the #ReachOut campaign, spearheaded by FIFA to encourage people to talk about their mental health.”
The video awareness campaign features Legends, current players and special guests, who have lent their support to this mental health campaign, and at times sharing their lived experience. The campaign is being shared on FIFA digital channels, with multimedia toolkits provided to the 211 FIFA member associations and to media agencies to facilitate dissemination and use within Europe and beyond.
Meanwhile, players from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam reinforce WHO advice on how to help to keep our minds healthy, as well as our bodies, in the special ASEAN edition of #ReachOut.
Secretary-General of ASEAN Dato Lim Jock Hoi said, “Mental health and well-being are just as important as physical health and safety. Under the Chairmanship of Brunei Darussalam, ASEAN is taking steps to advance cooperation with external partners on mental health, in order to provide the ASEAN Community with the necessary and appropriate mental health and psychosocial support services.”
The World Health Organization (WHO) and FIFA signed a four-year collaboration in 2019 to promote healthy lifestyles through football globally.
The two organisations jointly launched the ‘Pass the message to kick out coronavirus’ campaign in March 2020 to share advice on effective measures to protect people from COVID-19.
This was followed by the #BeActive campaign in April 2020 to encourage people to stay healthy at home during the pandemic, and #SafeHome, a campaign launched to support those at risk from domestic violence, in May 2020. More recently, the two organisations teamed up at the FIFA Club World Cup to #ACTogether to promote the need for fair access to COVID-19 vaccines, treatments and diagnostics, and to encourage people to keep practicing life-saving, everyday public health measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and to protect health.

The government has been blamed for “condoning” child marriages, a practice widespread in the Johane Marange apostolic sect. This follows the death of Memory Machaya, a 14-year-old girl who died at a Marange church shrine while giving birth to her first baby.
Several voices have been calling the government to act and authorities have so far conducted investigations only.
Theologian Lewis Emmanuel Chasara accuses the government of “continuously letting us down by letting the Johane Marange sect continue its practice of child marriages.”
He said:
The current government has been in a long relationship with the Johane Marange sect but has failed to confront them about the issue of child marriages this meaning that our own government continued to look the other way on this issue of child marriages being practised by the Johane Marange Sect. Memory Machaya was a minor and the Johane Marange sect influenced her death due to their common practice of child marriages.
The Johane Marange sect is known for its ignorance when it comes to professional medical health care. The Johane Marange sect discourages modern health care. This is seen when Memory Machaya was denied health care and medicine. Memory Machaya was denied visits to the clinic even if they knew she was pregnant but the Johane Marange sect denies any visits to a doctor or clinic/hospital. Hence this resulting in Memory Machaya’s death. Salt and water are considered the only medicine in this white garment sect. As for the death of Memory Machaya, it is a clear murder since she was poisoned by paraffin which was poured into her nose this catalysing her death. If Memory Machaya was sent to the hospital in time of her sickness she would probably be alive today.
He added that the Zimbabwe Republic Police is not enforcing the law of child marriages and the Johane Marange sect, therefore, takes advantage of this inaction or negligence by law enforcers.
Chasara called upon members of the public to fight against.- IHarare

PRESIDENT LUNGU DECLARES GENERAL ELECTION NOT FREE AND FAIR LUSAKA, (Saturday 14′, August, 2021)—His Excellency, Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia has said his party, the Patriotic Front, is Consulting on the next course of action concerning the general election held on Thursday. 12Th August, 2021. President Lungu says the general election in three provinces, namely, Southern Province. North Western Province, and Western Province, were characterised by violence, rendering the whole exercise a nullity. The President said Patriotic Front polling agents were brutalised and chased from polling stations, a situation that left the ruling party’s votes unprotected in the three provinces. The President also cites the killing of Patriotic Front North Western Province Chairman Jackson Kungo, during voting, and Mr Samuel Chihili, shortly before the voting, as criminal acts that rendered the general election not free and fair. “Right now, some of our agents and supporters are in hiding because of these criminal acts. How can the elections be fair when people have been murdered and many others are in hiding after being brutalised. Is that democracy? We have written to the Electoral Commission of Zambia but they have continued announcing the results. So, we are consulting on the next decision we have to make,” the President said, and added, “with polling agents having been attacked and chased from polling stations, we were reduced to competing in seven provinces while our opponent was contesting in 10 provinces.” ISSUED BY: Isaac Chipampe SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO THE PRESIDENT (Press and Public Relations) PATE HOUSE
The MDC-T is in panic mode and there are reports that senior party members were spotted last night at the house of controvesial preacher Isaac Makomichi.
Sources claimed the senior MDC-T officials were searching for spiritual powers to win 2023 general elections.
“We saw them entering his gate at night, one of them was saying with this prophet we will win the general elections.
I was once an MDC-T official member as I was suprised to see my former bosses seeking spiritual powers.
They are hopeless and now they think this Makomichi will help them with spiritual powers. To win elections and moving a mountain are two different things. It’s sad for sure,” said one eyewitness.
“Makomichi might be powerful but I don’t think he has those powers to cause people to vote for Mwonzora,” added one political analyst.

By A Correspondent- A beneficiary of the land reform programme at Sailor Jack farm in Nyamandlovu, Umguza district, Matabeleland North province has resisted efforts to evict him from a farmhouse he has occupied since 2003.
Qondekhaya Khaya Ndlovu is among other settlers who were allocated land at the farm in 2001 at the height of the land reform programme.
In 2003, the Lands ministry gave him rights to occupy the farmhouse, which he has partly turned into a tuckshop, according to documents from the ministry.
“Please be advised that the holder of this note, Q Ndlovu has the authority from the government’s Lands ministry — Matabeleland North province and the District Administrators office to use this homestead at Sailor’s Jack as a temporary trading site.
“The usage of the homestead by any other person besides Q Ndlovu is illegal — from the chief lands office,” a notice from one M Sibanda, lands officer (estate management — Matabeleland North province) read in part.
Ndlovu recently clashed with a local village head Abit Dube who wanted him out of the property.
“That homestead has been a source of contention ever since I settled there. I am the rightful owner.
“Instead of concentrating on my farming business I am finding myself spending a lot of time in courts, and losing money fighting this attempt to remove me from the property,” Ndlovu said.
In April, Tsholotsho provincial magistrate granted a peace order against Kaliyathi Meke, Zebedia Mthombeni, Robina Ndlovu, Abraham Nare and Abit Dube after they attempted to grab the farmhouse from Ndlovu.
In July 2006 and February 2017, Bulawayo High Court judges Justice Mafios Cheda and Nokuthula Moyo respectively ruled in favour of Ndlovu following attempts to evict him from the farmhouse by one Rebecca Dlamini.
“The defendant and all those claiming through her be and are hereby ordered to vacate Sailor Jack farmhouse within 48 hours of granting of this order failing which the sheriff of Zimbabwe with the assistance of the members of the ZRP be and are hereby directed to evict the defendant and all those claiming through him from Sailor Jack farmhouse and give vacant possession of the house to the plaintiff,” Justice Moyo ruled.
By A Correspondent- A suspected Ruwa drug dealer, who is also involved in the transport business, appeared in court yesterday facing allegations of fatally assaulting at his house and in a car a suspected thief whom he was interrogating over the loss of crystal meth (mutoriro), US$400 and other valuables.
After the man died and his death confirmed at a Ruwa clinic, Masimba Makoto of Damofalls Phase 1 allegedly dumped the man’s body at the 62km peg along the Harare-Bulawayo Highway on the other side of Harare.
Makoto appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi charged with murder and he was not asked to plead to the charges before being remanded to September 2.
Bail can only be granted by the High Court. His alleged accomplice Wallen Mupunga has since appeared in court on similar charges. Makoto is alleged to have teamed up with Mupunga and a third man only identified as Elton, alias Gaza, and confronted the now dead Tinotenda Mandiyanike and Stanely Kahari, whom they accused of stealing drugs, money and clothes.
Miss Monalisa Magwenzi, appearing for the State, alleged that on May 22 around midnight, Makoto, Mupunga and Elton confronted Mandiyanike and Kahari, accusing Mandiyanike of stealing US$400, seven pairs of jeans and spanners from Makoto’s house, while Kahari was accused of stealing crystal meth.
The three allegedly stuffed cloths into the mouths of the two to muffle their cries for help, tied their hands and legs using shoe laces, and then severely assaulted them with electric cables, car battery jumpers, batons and open hands.
After being badly beaten, the court heard that the two eventually admitted to stealing, and were bundled into a blue Mercedes Benz C180 to go to Mandiyanike’s house.
The three searched for the goods in the presence of Mandiyanike’s sisters, Miriam Mangozho and Vivian Mandiyanike, but didn’t find anything. It is alleged that they took Mandiyanike back into their car and drove to Sunway City area where they continued to assault him until he fell unconscious.
They allegedly drove him to the near-by Windsor 24-hour Medical Clinic in Ruwa where they lied to the doctor that he was assaulted by a mob after being accused of stealing a cellphone.
The doctor checked for a pulse, but could not see any signs of life and advised them to report the case at ZRP Ruwa. It is alleged they drove along Harare-Bulawayo Road where they dumped Mandiyanike’s body at the 62km peg.
Kahari was rescued by his friends Stitch, Michael and Tyman, who were also looking for mutoriro to buy.
By A Correspondent- A 2020 O-Level student, Ashley Mutandwa, has written to the Zimbabwe School Examination Council (Zimsec) demanding the release of her results seized on allegations of examination cheating.
Zimsec withheld Mutandwa’s examination results claiming that she illegally accessed the November 2020 Mathematics paper 2 question paper before entering the examination room at Intellect College in Norton.
Through her lawyer, Alex Majachani, Mutandwa has written to ZIMSEC in a letter dated June 21 also copied to Intellect College, Mashonaland West provincial director, district school’s inspector and Mashonaland West Zimsec regional manager, denying the allegations levelled against her.
Reads part of the letter:
I am writing this letter deeply moved and disturbed by the determination you took to withhold my Mathematics O-Level results.
I strongly reject and refuse totally the allegations you are levelling against me. I did not see or have access to the alleged Mathematics paper which was circulating on social media.I set the examination on the date of her burial and I was heavily depleted, but did write the examination as a fulfilment.
The outstanding performance in paper 2, written on December 10 2020, is a result of me gaining my strength, motivation a week after the loss. The performance exhibited in the paper is complementary to my few revision tests.
My presentation and workings in the exam is clear testimony that I did not cheat, but had prepared thoroughly. I absolutely pronounce that I did not breach the Zimsec Act section 34, subsection 1 and paragraph C of 1994. May your board reconsider its determination and release my results.
She said she performed badly in her Mathematics paper 1 because she wrote the examination grieving over the loss of her neighbour, Gogo Gava Rusariya Tapererwa, who was buried the same day.
Mutandwa also wrote to Zimsec assistant director identified as Mashingaidze, demanding the release of the results.
By A Correspondent- A security guard under Blackshark Security Company reportedly connived with a shift manager and stage-managed a robbery at Chicken Inn Chisipite before getting away with US$1 730 and ZW$4 000 recently.
The security guard, Robson Tawanda Chiriseri, 28, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court on Monday and the matter was remanded to 13 August for bail application.
According to court papers, on 6 August 2021, at Chicken Inn, Chisipite, Harare, the accused person, who is a security guard under Blackshark Security Company and was on duty the day in question, hatched a plan with his accomplice, Talent Mushoshoma, a Shift Manager at Chicken Inn, Chisipite, who is still at large, to steal from the company, and they stage-managed a robbery.
It is alleged that the accused person left the company doors unlocked to give his accomplices easy access into the rooms.
Further allegations are that, once inside the rooms, Mushoshoma took the safe keys which had been left on the shelf, unlocked the safe and stole cash amounting to US$I 730. 00, and ZW$4 000. 00.
Mushoshoma then proceeded to where Chiriseri was seated and was given handcuffs and pepper spray which the latter had on duty.
It is the State’s case that Mushoshoma then “handcuffed” Chiriseri with the handcuffs and pepper-sprayed him to make it appear as if he had been robbed. Afterwards, he(Mushoshoma), went away with the money which they were to share between themselves later.
By A Correspondent- Memory Machaya’s mysterious death has reportedly taken a new twist as her body which was allegedly buried at the Johanne Marange Apostolic Church shrine remains unaccounted for.
Contrary to Memory’s family claims that she was immediately buried at the church’s Mafararikwa Shrine in Marange soon after her tragic death, the Johanne Marange Apostolic Church claims she was never buried there.
Speaking during an interview with Manica Post, the church’s coordinator and spokesperson, Nyasha Marange, vehemently denied claims that Memory was buried at the Mafararikwa Shrine when she died.
He said;
“There is no graveyard at our shrine. If a congregant dies during our gatherings, arrangements are made to ferry that person’s body to their place of origin. The shrine is only used for gatherings and Memory’s body was not buried in the shrine as alleged.”
Nyasha Marange argued that their church doesn’t have a secret graveyard at the shrine as this is against the country’s laws.
He, however, refused to shed any light on Memory’s final resting place.
The family still insists Memory was buried at the shrine and believes this is just a cover-up by the church to evade arrest.
Memory’s death caused a nationwide uproar amid a delay by authorities to investigate the matter.
Meanwhile, the Council of Indigenous Churches of Africa (CICA) president, Golden Zininga condemned Johane Marange’s church practice. He called upon the police to get to the bottom of the case.
“This is just the tip of the iceberg. As the Council of Indigenous Churches of Africa, we totally condemn such practices in the church. Sections 19 and 81 of the country’s Constitution empowers the State and its machinery to safeguard children’s rights, said Zininga
The relevant authorities have since been implored on to thoroughly investigate Memory’s mysterious death which has caused national outcry
By A Correspondent | Prominent Church leader, Bishop Ancelimo Magaya of Zimbabwe Divine Destiny has denounced the imposition of the vaccination programme on churches.
According to Bishop Magaya, violation of human rights is typical of Zanu PF DNA.
See statement below:
Whilst we acknowledge the fact that as Zimbabweans and in particular as churches we need to comply with WHO Guidelines to ensure we minimise the spread of this pandemic, we reject totally out of hand government’s approach this commandist iron fist like approach which has been in the ruling Zanu Pf party DNA to violate peoples rights, the rights to freedom of conscience, the rights to worship, the rights to assembly. It is discriminatory.
Yeah It is discriminatory and that should be rejected.
Why is it that government fails to use an approach where they campaign and persuade people, educate people and put in place measures that are not commandist to expedite the process of making sure that people get vaccinated?
Now it such an approach that promotes not only resistance but corruption as we hear that there are some vaccine cards that are being sold already.
Furthermore, we are aware that some Zanu Pf meetings under the guise of government business have never stopped.
Zanu Pf politburo meetings have been going on. Amai Auxilia’s Angel of Hope meetings have been going on. Have all these people been vaccinated?
We know that most if not all the Marange people where a 14yr old girl died whilst giving birth were not vaccinated. The government should stop diverting people’s attention from real issues such as their failure to prosecute blood suckers who force children into marriage.
We know that it is for political mileage that they cannot enforce this law to this vampire apostolic sect guising itself as church. This is hypocrisy of the highest order, it should be resisted.
We have already been responsible and we do not need this iron fist like commandist like approach.
It is bad when people begin to taste the sweetness of power even to this extent.
By A Correspondent- Zanu PF internal fights have marred preparations for the party’s Mashonaland East province elections.
A recent meeting at the provincial party offices in Marondera resulted in the provincial women’s league boss Lyn Gororo ordering committee members to issue prohibition orders against her deputy, Lucy Chitaka, provincial secretary for finance Petronella Kagonye and secretary for administration Sphiwe Mukunyaidze in a bid to bar them from contesting the elections.
The three were reportedly accused of being “too close” to Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs minister Apolonia Munzverengwi.
“There are threats to issue Mukunyaidze, Kagonye and Chitaka with prohibition orders, thereby barring them from participating in the process. They are being accused of supporting government programmes being spearheaded by Munzverengwi. We are saying Munzverengwi is moving around implementing Vision 2030 among other things,” the official, who preferred anonymity, said.
Munzverengwi is eyeing the provincial women’s league post held by Gororo.
Gororo became the chairlady after taking over from Nyarai Tsvuura last year.
Tsvuura was accused of gossiping against Senate president Mabel Chinomona, an allegation she denied.
“I heard that there is a prohibition order on me. I am yet to get the written order,” Mukunyaidze said.
NewsDay is reliably informed that the main wing of the provincial leadership is currently divided as the race to replace the late Joel Biggie Matiza intensifies.
It is reported that youth league boss Kelvin Mutsvairo is eyeing the provincial chairmanship.
Mutsvairo is likely to lock horns with acting provincial chairperson Michael Madanha.

By Patrick Guramatunhu- History will show just how close the late Nelson Mandela’s “Rainbow democratic South Africa” came to collapse and become just another African Banana Republic like Zimbabwe during former President Jacob Zuma’s time in office.
The shocking truth of what happened during Zuma’s time in office is coming out!
“Many of the incidents of corruption that would in time be described as ‘state capture’ became known to me as they did to the general public through the work of journalists, civil society organisations, and institutions such as the Public Protector and Auditor General,” reads President Cyril Ramaphosa’s statement to State Capture Commission, the body tasked to investigate corruption during President Zuma’s time in office.
“Reports of court cases and disciplinary proceedings, together with the commendable work of investigative journalists and whistle-blowers, gave insight into corruption in both government and the private sector.”
South Africa’s icon leader, President Nelson Mandela’s greatest legacy to the nation was the gift of democracy, healthy and functioning democratic institutions like media, judiciary, without which the corruption in South Africa would have been swept under the carpet. The critical importance of such democratic institution in stamping out corruption is best appreciated if one was to compare with what happened in Zimbabwe.
There are so few “investigative journalists” in Zimbabwe they, for all practical purposes, an endangered species! The odd ball like Geoffrey Nyarota with his Willowgate scandal, was left in no doubt of just how much the country’s ruling elite disapproved of his work. And it was not just Robert Mugabe and one or two others in the Zanu PF ruling elite who disapproved the notion of a robust and independent media, judiciary, etc. the whole Zanu PF ruling elite disapproved.
“As it became increasingly clearer – through the so-called Gupta Leaks and other revelations – that a network of individuals was seemingly colluding with senior government officials to occupy key positions and ‘capture’ key institutions, the question that arose was how to respond,” continued President Ramaphosa’s statement.
“The first option available to me was to resign from the Executive. While I would have earned praise from many quarters, this action would have significantly impaired my ability to contribute to bring about an end to state capture.
“This was a question that not only I had to grapple with, but also other members of the Executive who were deeply concerned about these developments. I had five options: resign, speak out, acquiesce and abet, remain and keep silent, or remain and resist.”
Since the 2017 military coup that toppled Zimbabwe’s dictator Robert Gabriel Mugabe; his successor, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has tried to distance himself from Mugabe’s corrupt and tyrannical rule. He has been selling his administration as clean and democratic, “new dispensation and Second Republic”. All nonsense, Mnangagwa had not only colluded with Mugabe for 37 years but had been the dictator’s henchman who carried out all the dirty work of rigging elections, looting and murder of the regime opponents.
By A Correspondent- Cross-border transporters commonly known as omalayitsha have expressed concerns over the police officers allegedly demanding bribes based on luggage they are carrying to allow them to cross the Beitbridge border post between South Africa and Zimbabwe.
The cross border transport operators said failure to pay the wanted money one risked getting his vehicle confiscated.
“The police officers will tell you to choose between them confiscating your car or you paying an amount of 5 000 rands or more depending on the luggage you are carrying,” he said.
He accused the police officers of using the government orders as an excuse to demand money.
We are tired of the police who ask for a lot of money from us from the border until we reach the end of our journey,” he said.
“Now they are telling us that only ZUPCO vehicles are allowed to travel and transport goods. How is that possible? How are they expecting us to survive? What about families whose lives depend on their relatives in South Africa? The government needs to think for the people.”
Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena could not comment on the issue.
“I’m not allowed to comment on general issues like this one. I’m given authority to speak on matters of Matabeleland South Province,” she said.
Due to COVID-19 outbreak counterfeiters of United States dollars and South African Rands have now moved from the streets to online.
Just searching online for counterfeit United States dollars or South African Rand there is always a website that is ready to sell and deliver whatever amount you require. Africa has become a major destination for counterfeit money and pirated goods and there is a lot more people who are prepared to take the risk.
According to the South African Reserve Bank, in the 2020/21 financial year, it measured fake money at 5.68 parts per million it said in its annual report.
In the previous year that number had been 10.76 parts per million, for a decline of 47% in the incidence of counterfeit money in one year. Some of that money filters into Zimbabwe which has its major currency trading as the United States dollar.
Zimbabweans have become so desperate due to the country’s economic challenges and the allure of counterfeiting is obvious.
Imagine, If one could do it without getting caught, if one is able to print their own money and buy whatever you want with it. Counterfeiting is the ultimate technology for criminals who want to get something for nothing.
Yester-year counterfeiting was a difficult and expensive endeavor to start. It required large printing presses and the ability to cut intricate designs by hand into metal plates. With advanced technology, it is much easier to create counterfeit bills.
As the world becomes smaller and easy to travel more and more people are discovering every year advanced technology every year, if one is willing to break the law, they can create fake money with just a PC, a scanner and a colour inkjet printer in about 10 minutes.
There are also websites like https://www.billsdoc.com/ who publicly advertise that you buy Canadian dollars, British Pounds, Euros, Australian dollars and USA dollars. In this article, we will look at the technology of counterfeiting.
“We produce and sell quality undetectable counterfeit money all around the world, We print Anti-counterfeit banknotes for all currencies. Here is your chance to be a millionaire. PRICE $500 for 10000 Notes, $700 for 15000 Notes, $900 for 20000 Notes, $1000 for 25000 Notes.
They even have the audacity to include their contact telephone number and all the other details that one may require to contact the counterfeiters.
Zimbabwean authorities should find a way to either detect and block these counterfeit websites from being accessed in Zimbabwe and work with other law enforcement agencies to stop this illegal method of doing business.
Zimbabwe needs a law enforcement unit whose role is to monitor the “dark internet” where some of these illegal activities are prevalent.

By A Correspondent- A Victoria Falls landlord, Gift Kazembe is facing attempted murder charges after he removed his tenant’s eye over US$3 rent arrears.
Kazembe appeared before a Victoria Falls magistrate for plugging out Brian Karemba’s eye in June when his monthly due was short by US$3.
The court heard that Karemba told his 44-year-old landlord that he did not have the money as he was struggling as he was no longer working, but the latter allegedly used a log to attack his tenant and injured his eye in the process.
Victoria Falls magistrate gave the case a more prolonged remand to next month due to Covid-19 regulations and allowed Karemba to heal after doctors removed the eye on June 17.
“It was around 11 PM when he got back from Shoestrings nightclub, and he came to my room where he asked for his outstanding rentals. I told him that l did not have enough money as I was short with US$3”.
Kazembe punched Karemba several times, causing him to sustain injuries on the face and head and a deep cut on the left eye.
Karemba was rushed to Victoria Falls Hospital and was transferred to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) where he was admitted until being operated on to remove the eye on June 17.

By A Correspondent- Hoards of angry Chitungwiza residents have mobbed and killed a local man for unlawfully entering a neighbour’s house.
Zimbabwe Republic Police Thursday confirmed the murder.
“Members of the public are urged to report criminal matters to the Police and shun meting instant justice on crime suspects. On 12/08/21 at around 0200hrs a man (34) was murdered on allegations of unlawful entry and theft at a certain house in St Mary’s, Chitungwiza,” posted ZRP on Twitter.
Reported the state media:
Paul Masarakufa, 23, died around 6am in St Mary’s suburb of Chitungwiza after being beaten and had salty water poured on him while being handcuffed.
Masarakufa was going to Zengeza 3 after having a misunderstanding with his girlfriend Sheila Manyika, 28.
Police have since picked up one Pastor Werren Mupereki and his sister Mai Kuda who handed themselves to the police on realising that Masarakufa had died; two others are still at large.
An eye witness said Mupereki and his sister thought that Masarakufa was one of the thieves who had stolen a cellphone at their house earlier on in the night.
“He (Masarakufa) was beaten while handcuffed and tied to a tree.
“Salty water was poured on him while being beaten as he denied stealing until his last breath,” the eyewitness said.
He said the mob also contributed in beating him.
“Only Mupereki and his sister and the other two kept on attacking him till he died; the others stopped beating him when they realised that they were in the process of killing a person.”
Masarakufa’s girlfriend Manyika said:
“He came from a party and he was drunk.
“He started causing a lot of noise until my uncle asked what was the noise about. He then said he came to apologize to me for being adulter0us.
“I told him to bring his girlfriend and tell her in my face that he was now back to me,” said Manyika.
She said they had been dating for the past five years.
“This year was going to be the fifth together.
“He worked at the mine as mukorokoza and I know when he had money he would give me too.
“I asked him why he treated me that way only to come back apologising.
“But all I know is he is not a thief and never stole even a single dollar from me,” she said.
She said she did not know how Masarakufa left her place as she had left for her friend’s place as Masarakufa continued to cause chaos.
Young brother to the deceased Kudakwashe said his brother had left for his girlfriend’s place after partying in Zengeza.
“I was with him yesterday at a party in Zengeza.
“He was drunk and I separated with him when he was going to his girlfriend’s place.
“I’m so saddened and disheartened to hear about his passing on and how they treated him because my brother was not a thief.
“Never in a day even as we grew up that he stole anything from anyone,” he said.

Zambian opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema took an early lead as the first results were announced from Thursday’s cliffhanger election.
With results tallied from 15 of the 156 constituencies, Hichilema had 171,604 votes versus President Edgar Lungu’s 110,178, chief electoral officer Kryticous Nshindano said Saturday. Total valid votes counted so far are 287,996, he said. The partial count may not be an accurate indication of the final outcome, which is expected to be announced within three days.
In 2016, initial results from urban centers showed Lungu, 64, well ahead of Hichilema, 59, in what was ultimately a close race that the opposition United Party for National Development claimed was rigged. Its legal challenge was thrown out of the Constitutional Court after the party’s lawyers ran out of time to make their case.
Investors are keenly awaiting the outcome of the plebiscite in Africa’s second-biggest copper producer, with Lungu facing his toughest vote yet amid growing poverty and surging inflation. Whoever wins will need to revive an economy in default on its Eurobonds and secure a long-sought loan from the International Monetary Fund.
Dear Reader, President Edgar Lungu of Zambia performed dismally in the general election held on 12 August 2021. Results from polling agents indicate that the United Party for National Development’s Alliance leader Hakainde Hichilema (HH) is going to win with more than 50% of the vote. HH had support of 10 political parties. Reader, the political victory is already entrenched in the public’s mind. However, Zambia has to wait for the official declaration by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), the statutory body mandated to run elections. Meanwhile the nation is on the edge. What are the possible four scenarios?
Scenario 1: Democratic transition
The best case scenario for democracy is for the ECZ to speedily announce the official results. So that HH, who evidently has more than 50% of the vote, becomes the President elect in line with section 101 (2) of the national constitution. This will pave way for HH to be sworn into office on the Tuesday following the seventh day after the date of ECZ’s declaration. Meanwhile, Lungu will have to do the honourable and gracious act. That is to phone H.H., congratulate him and concede defeat. Naturally, losing elections is devastating. However, democracy requires that once candidates have been submitted to the people the vote becomes supreme. H.H. has already sent messages indicating that ‘he will take care of Lungu’ in order to signal a peaceful transfer of power. Some losing Presidential candidates like Dr Nevers Mumba have already accepted the will of the people and called on Lungu to follow suit. That will result in a peaceful democratic transition and make Africa proud especially after Donald Trump’s failed theatrics to remain in office after losing the vote in America.
Scenario 2: Prolonged transition
However, Lungu can choose to continue occupying the saddle of state power for a while and prolong the transition. He can lodge an election petition to nullify the election of the President elect [read HH) if he can prove that the election laws were not complied with. He will have to file the petition with the constitutional court within seven days after the ECZ’s declaration of the President elect. Faced with such a petition, the constitutional court will have to hear the case within 14 days of the filing. The constitutional court can: (a) uphold the election of the President-elect of which he will be sworn in on the Tuesday following the seventh day after the declaration or (b) nullify the election of the President-elect which means a new presidential election will have to be held within 30 days. A decision of the constitutional court will be final. Within this period, the law will allow Lungu to continue to perform the executive functions except dissolving parliament or making appointments. Most commentators doubt the independence of the constitutional court because it was appointed by Lungu and it has been making controversial rulings in his favour. The judges were also trained by Zimbabwe’s controversial Chief Justice, Luke Malaba, on how to handle electoral petitions in May 2021. Nevertheless, even if the election is nullified, it will be a herculean task for Lungu to make a political comeback in 30 days. The people of Zambia want HH this time. Political allegiances change.
Scenario 3: Derailed transition
On the other end, Lungu can try to manipulate state institutions and ECZ to rig the results in ways that can lead to his victory but more realistically a run-off. It is important to note that if none of the presidential candidates receives more than 50 percent of the votes, a second round of the presidential vote shall be held within 37 days of the first round. In the run-off, only candidates with the highest and second highest number of votes will be eligible to participate. Technically this means Lungu and HH will have to face each other in a second round. Political winds of change sweeping through Zambia cannot allow Lungu to turn the tide in just 37 days. Losing presidential candidates endorsing HH are likely to back him in the run-off. If anything, Lungu is likely to be isolated and defeated by even a wider margin in such a scenario. Maybe he will try to go for broke.
Scenario 4: Blocked transition
This will mean a suicidal attempt to refuse to surrender power and dig in at all costs. Under this scenario, the judiciary can be manipulated to disqualify HH as a Presidential candidate in the run-off based on trumped up charges of violating the constitution or election laws. The technical elimination of HH will result in a blocked transition. Lungu can also try to manipulate the judiciary to order an injunction against the ECZ despite that it is a state institution doing its constitutional duties. This will be meant to stop the ECZ from announcing results especially from HH’s stronghold constituencies citing violence and irregularities. Lungu’s last wild card in trying to block the transition can be to order the military to unleash terror against the citizens and make the country ungovernable. This is far-fetched and undesirable. Citizens are likely to build on Zambia’s democratic political culture of peaceful transfer of state power to resist. In addition, the international community is watching and there is no shared appetite to breed a pariah state within the judiciary, army and other state institutions.
So the best way for President Edgar Lungu is to enable democratic and peaceful transfer of state power and salvage some legacy.

An MDC Alliance councillor for Chitungwiza appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court yesterday facing fraud charges after selling a non-existent residential stand to a unsuspecting homeseeker.
Darlington Musonza appeared before magistrate Stanford Mambanje who remanded him to September 30 on $20 000 bail.
Musonza, who was represented by Lorretta Makumbe, is councillor for ward 12 in Chitungwiza.
Allegations are that sometime in 2017, the complainant Kudakwashe Chatima approached a Chitungwiza-based real estate agent Vincent Tom-Barris intending to buy a residential stand.
A few days later, Tom-Barris advised Chatima that Musonza was selling residential stands in Chitungwiza.
Tom-Barris then introduced Chatima to Musonza, who indicated that there was a stand, number 14557 in Zengeza 3 Extension, on sale.
It is alleged that Chatima showed interest in the stand and agreed to purchase it for US$3 800.
On March 13, 2017, Chatima made a payment of US$3 230 through a bank transfer from his CABS bank account to Musonza’s Steward Bank account.
Chatima made a further cash payment of US$570 to Musonza to reach the agreed purchase price.
After receiving full payment, Musonza and Chatima then signed an agreement of sale.
The complainant was then given an allocation letter with a letterhead from Cone Textiles Housing Co-operative by Musonza and was advised to proceed to Chitungwiza Municipality offices to process change of ownership.
However, the Chitungwiza housing director could not locate the file records for the stand.
Chatima then made a report at the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission and investigations revealed that the stand number 14557 was an open space and not for residential purposes. As a result of Musonza’s misrepresentation, Chatima lost US$3 800.
The South African National Editors’ Forum (SANEF) has expressed concern over the refusal by Zimbabwe’s High Court to temporarily release Hopewell Chin’ono’s passport to allow him attend the Nat Nakasa Awards Gala where he was scheduled to deliver a keynote address tomorrow. Chin’ono applied for the release of his passport on August 6 and the court acknowledged the urgency of the matter, but delayed making a ruling until his date and time of travel passed.
In a statement, (SANEF) urged the government to acknowledge and respect the constitutional rights of journalists, arguing that an independent press is at the heart of any democracy.
“It is regrettable that Chin’ono continues to be a victim of the Zimbabwean government’s political persecution. Journalism is not a crime, and journalists should not be treated like common criminals for practicing their craft.
“The South African National Editors’ Forum (SANEF) is disappointed by the failure of the Zimbabwean High Court to hand over the passport of renowned journalist Hopewell Chin’ono. Chin’ono was due to travel to Johannesburg where he was to deliver a keynote address at the Nat Nakasa Awards Gala dinner on Saturday 14 August 2021. Chin’ono was supposed to have travelled out of Harare today to attend the SANEF-organised awards,” SANEF said.
SANEF also urged regional block, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to pressure Zimbabwe’s government saying the persecution of journalists was unjust as they should be allowed to do their work freely.

CHIREDZI – Chiredzi East MP Denford Masiya has vowed to fight against the renewal of the Neromwe chieftainship in defiance of a pronouncement made by President Emmerson Mnangagwa to restore the traditional crown.
Masiya who is a Shangani told mourners gathered at Chief Tshovani’s ceremonial burial on Friday last week that he was not going to rest until his people take back their land from the Neromwe chieftainship.
This, he said, would fulfil the late Chief Tshovani’s wish and struggle during the later part of his life.
“We the Shangani people are the owners of this land and we know that some of you here came and claimed our land. Who do you think you are? Even my brother (Chief Tshovani) here died fighting for that issue,” said Masiya.
Mnangagwa restored the Neromwe chieftainship in 2018 which is said to have survived in the 18th century but was dismantled during the time of colonialism. The first Chief Neromwe who is of the Gumbo totem Clemence Mudzingwa was installed the same year.
The late Chief Tshovani has a pending case in the courts where he was fighting against the restoration of Neromwe which he alleged took away land that was under him. The land now under Neromwe was largely a commercial farming area for whites until the land reform programme in 2000.
“Neromwe claimed land which is not his. Who is he, he is not Shangani and he came from nowhere to claim part of Chief Tshovani’s area of jurisdiction. “The matter is before the courts and they will decide and we know we will win,” said Masiya.
Chiredzi District Development Coordinator (DDC), Lovemore Chisema could not comment directly on the matter but said that Government appointed a commission of inquiry to look into Chief Neromwe’s issue after Neromwe claimed that he was the rightful chief for the area.
“When issues like that happens Government usually appoints a commission of inquiry to look into the issue. The Government’s interest will be to establish the facts of the matter,” Chisema told The Mirror.
Chief Neromwe could not be contacted for comment. Five of the seven chiefs in Chiredzi five are Shangani, one is Ndau while Neromwe is the only Shona chief. The shangani chiefs are Sengwe, Tshovani, Chilonga, Gezani, and Mupapa. Gudo is Ndau.- The Mirror

By A Correspondent- The founder of Tag a Life International (TaLI), a Women and girls’ rights organisation, Nyaradzo Mashayamombe has urged socialite and comedienne Madam Boss to upgrade her education to avoid making public blunders.
Madam Boss, also known as Tyra Chikocho real name Tarisai Cleopatra Chikocho, said she would not join the protests thereby attracting criticism of her followers on social media. She later issued a statement saying she was sorry. Pindula News presents her statement.
*****Once Again Am Sorry to all my fans and all the corporates that I represent *****
I’m a very peaceful person who mostly likes to keep to myself and stick to what I know best, entertaining my fans even those that mock me, I’ve been accused of many things and called different names but I have never cared because I know myself, I’m a mother and also a women and my heart bleeds each time I see a women or a girl child suffer. That’s why I always post any issues concerning (the) abuse of a girl child.
I chose not (to) keep quiet on this occasion because the Marange shrine issue is one that has touched my heart and I’m pained that my live video a few days ago was taken out of context. However, I’m here today apologizing to each and everyone that was offended by that video and also to say I’m personally against child marriages and strongly hope the culprits of the Marange shrine be brought to book. #JusticeForMemory
The “apology” attracted varying responses with some saying that was not an apology as she was not admitting that she was wrong.
TALI founder, Nyaradzo Mashayamombe suggested Madam Boss could have avoided the scandal if she was educated.
She said:
Madam Boss I love you. Have said it before will say it again. Enrol yourself in a diploma or degree, it will help you. You are underutilized in this space If you don’t challenge yourself to a degree of sorts, an education will improve you on many levels including how to not continue apologizing for same issues. You are a lovely soul who will keep repeating same mistakes if you keep uneducated. Enrol ku Women’s University in Africa on age basis you will be just fine. I listened to your Interview with Butterfly all the rough edges will polish a bit with education.
While some agreed with Mashayamombe, another social media user suggested that Madam Boss’ issue had to do more with lack of moral values and not education perse.
Tinashe Sambiri|While Zanu PF apparatchiks are crying for the removal of sanctions, their incompetence has been exposed by the awarding of a pipeline tender to a dodgy UK based company.
The regime has threatened to arrest prominent journalist Hopewell Chin’ono for exposing rampant corruption and looting of State resources.
Chin’ono wrote on Facebook:
“Each time I expose corruption, looting or plunder, I am threatened with arrest.
This afternoon I tweeted about how the pipeline tender was awarded to a bogus UK company, I am now receiving calls threatening me with arrest!
Why should journalists be arrested for doing their work?”
MDC Alliance spokesperson Advocate Fadzayi Mahere slammed the Zanu regime for deliberately misinforming the nation.
“The regime has awarded a UK company a US$1.3 Billion Beira-Harare pipeline tender.
The company is 1 year old.
The office address is a 1-bedroom residential flat in London.
Corruption scandals are like flies’ eggs in Zimbabwe. They’re everywhere. We need new leaders,” Advocate Mahere argued.
Tinashe Sambiri|Prominent Church leader, Bishop Ancelimo Magaya of Zimbabwe Divine Destiny has denounced the imposition of the vaccination programme on churches.

A suspected Ruwa drug dealer, who is also involved in the transport business, appeared in court yesterday facing allegations of fatally assaulting at his house and in a car a suspected thief whom he was interrogating over the loss of crystal meth (mutoriro), US$400 and other valuables.
-Herald

By A Correspondent-Government spokesperson, Nick Mangwana has blasted the Church for challenging President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s directive of turning away unvaccinated followers from attending church gatherings.
Early this week government allowed churches to resume conducting gatherings and said that only covid-19 vaccinated congregates should be authorised to assemble.
In a joint statement, the Zimbabwe Heads of Christian Denominations (ZHOCD), made up of the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC), Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference, Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe and the Union for Development of Apostolic and Zionist Churches in Zimbabwe Africa, said government’s decree was impossible to implement.
“Theologically, the Church is an open and welcoming space for everyone with no restrictions. No one qualifies for church service as it is a place of God’s grace,” part of the statement read.
“The Church will find it very difficult to turn people home because they do not have a vaccination certificate. However, would it be responsible for meeting in an uncontrolled environment where possibilities of spreading the virus are high?”
Posting on his Twitter handle, Mangwana said the Church was misguided.
“When you are banned from having people in the pew, no problem. Then you are told, now you can have people in the pew subject to safety measures, you have a problem with it? God Help us!”, posted on his Twitter account Friday.

“Practically, less than 10% of the population has been vaccinated. A group of citizens does not get vaccinated due to age or because they have not yet had a chance to be vaccinated. It will be difficult for the church to deny people to receive the means of grace simply because they have not been vaccinated when access to this vaccination is restricted.
