As Long As Tagwirei Is Looting State Resources, Economy Will Remain Grounded – Biti

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC Alliance vice president Hon Tendai Biti has dismissed Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube’s Midterm Budget Review calling it a case of vain glory.

Hon Biti, who is also a former Finance Minister, has pointed out that as long Kuda Tagwirei is controlling State resources, the economy will remain grounded.

Below is Hon Biti’s argument:

The Mid Term Review Statement presented was a terrible exercise in self absorbency ,vain glory and narcissism.

A mid term statement is not mandatory and where there is no message or policy direction sometimes silence is golden.

The country faces humongous challenges …

It is common cause that that the Refinery has been parceled out to interests controlled by Kuda Tagwireyi and his associates in high offices. At this rate just like Banyailand became Rhodesia after Cecil Rhodes, Zimbabwe will become Kudasville after Tagwireyi. What a shame !!

Disclosures in the Mid Term Review that Regime has disposed 60% of State’s shareholding in country’s sole gold refinery Fidelity Printers& Refiners to undisclosed elements is shocking&nauseating. The cannibilization&asset stripping taking place under Mnangwagwa is primitive ..

… approve and sanction any disposal of State Assets held in entities created by Parliament itself. At a time when there is a commodity boom it is foolish and naked corruption to dispose of any commodities let alone a refinery. Such disposal is an act of treason and sabotage.

VP Chiwenga Consoles The Hariratos

By A Correspondent- Vice president and Health minister Constantino Chiwenga has sent a condolence message to Agriculture deputy minister Vangelis Haritatos following the death of his mother Angela Haritatos.

Angela (59) succumbed to COVID-19-related complications on Wednesday, 18 days after her husband, Peter (77), a former legislator and liberation war hero, also succumbed to the virulent disease.

“It is saddening that the country continues to lose people due to COVID-19-related complications,” Chiwenga said in a statement.

“The passing on of Mrs Angela Haritatos is yet another grim reminder to all of us the unprecedented threat posed to humanity by this COVID-19 pandemic. Mrs Angela Haritatos was an embodiment of fortitude and a sanctuary of humility as she ably rallied behind her late husband in serving the nation,” he said.

Vangelis said his mother was kind to her associates.

“I always knew that life comes to an end, but for me to lose you both in just 18 days is something I never once thought would happen,” he posted on Facebook.

“You were the most amazing mother a son could have ever asked for. You were so kind, caring and so loving to everyone who came into contact with you. You looked after dad so well on earth. Thank you so much mama. May your soul rest in eternal peace right next to dad.”

“Mliswa’s Statement On The Late Former First Lady Naive- Most Zimbos Are Paupers!”

By Patrick Guramatunhu- Zimbabwe has come a long way in just 40 years to become a fully-fledged Banana Republic, George Orwell’s Animal Farm.

In George Orwell’s Animal Farm, the pigs, the ruling elite, flouted the golden rule “All Animals are equal!” from the word go by keeping the milk and other goodies to themselves. It soon became the norm that whilst all the other animals on the farm worked like slaves, the pigs did very little work or none. When the other animals’ food rations were reduced again and again so that many were starving; the pigs had potbellies from feasting. The golden rule was doctored to read: “All animals are equal; some are more equal than others!” to reflect the reality on the ground.

Four decades of gross mismanagement, rampant corruption and rank lawlessness have left Zimbabwe’s economy, once upon a time robust, in ruins and left the country a Banana Republic. The economy has all but collapsed sending unemployment into the stratosphere of 90% plus, basic services such as education and health care are barely functioning and 49% of the population are now living in abject poverty.

The poverty has hit the ordinary Zimbabweans hard as the country’s Zanu PF ruling elite, the pigs in George Orwell’s allegory, creamed off the nation’s wealth to feed their own insatiable greed. The criminal waste of human and material resource is the root cause of the country’s economic meltdown, and it was a matter of time that the rising flood of poverty would soon affect the ruling elect. And the ruling elite have been squalling like pigs at the sight of a member of the ruling elite living and dying in poverty!

“In news just received I’m deeply saddened to hear of the passing of the first former First Lady, Mai Janet Banana. I’m angered by the fact she died a pauper, once again another example of Govt not looking after our National Heroes’ wives,” tweeted Mliswa, himself a former Zanu PF bigwig and now Independent MP for Norton.

“After the immense contribution her late husband made to the country, regardless of anything, she died a destitute in Luveve. I thought the 2nd Republic would address issues neglected by the 1st Republic and it’s about time we’re able to move motions in Parly to this effect.”

So, Temba Mliswa is angry about Janet Banana dying paupers has hardly ever notice the millions of ordinary Zimbabweans are born paupers, live all their days on this earth in heart breaking poverty and die paupers!

Indeed, it was this callous indifference of Zimbabwe’s ruling elite to the suffering and deaths of others that inspired Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies to ruthlessly deny the masses their freedoms and rights, including the right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country and even the right to life.

Zimbabwe is a Banana Republic, a pariah state, ruled by corrupt, incompetent and murderous thugs who have remained in power these last 41 years by rigging elections. And as long as the country remains a Banana Republic (there is no difference between Mnangagwa’s so called Second Republic from Mugabe’s the First it is the same Banana Republic under a different dictator), there will be no meaningful economic recovery.

As long as nothing is done to revive the national economy then more and more Zimbabweans will be forced to live in abject poverty and die paupers; Zanu PF ruling elite including Temba Mliswa himself will not be spared the hardships of ever-rising flood of poverty.

Parliament can pass a law stipulating a king’s ransom allowance to every member of the country’s ruling elite and their family; the country broke, the ransom will never be paid! You cannot legislate prosperity, no one can; not even you Temba Mliswa.

“I’m angered by the fact Janet Banana (wife of Zanu PF ruling elite grandee) died a pauper!” So, you expect Zanu PF’s ruling elite to be born with a silver spoon in their mouth, to enjoy a pampered lifestyle of wealth and luxury and to die in a five-star hospital in a far away land (there are no such hospitals in Zimbabwe); untouched by the rising Noah flood of abject poverty sweeping the country -poverty brought on by and fuelled by the ruling elite’s unbridled greed. How naïve!

ID Woes For Zimbos In S.A

By A Correspondent- There are fears that hundreds of thousands of Zimbabweans living in South Africa may fail to be vaccinated against COVID-19 due to a lack of identity documents.

This is despite assurances by President Cyril Ramaphosa at the start of the vaccination programme that everyone, including foreigners, would be vaccinated.

However, Migrants Workers’ Association-SA (MWA-SA) chairperson Butholezwe Nyathi expressed concern over the failure of undocumented migrants to get inoculated.

Ncube said health workers at some vaccination centres in South Africa were turning away foreigners without passports and work permits, a situation that has also affected Zimbabwean migrants.

He said there are concerns that some employers might demand proof of vaccination and that might lead to job losses.

Said Ncube:

MWA-SA has observed that the South Africa Department of Health requires proof of identity for its vaccination data system (VDS).

We are grateful that those who managed to produce their passports with permits have been vaccinated without any problems.

However, we are concerned that those who fail to produce any form of proof of their legal status in SA might be excluded.

Ncube implored Ramaphosa’s government to allow private pharmacies to inoculate undocumented foreigners.

He said there is no way South Africa’s Department of Health can attain herd immunity without vaccinating migrants — whether legal or illegal as they form a significant percentage of communities.

Zimbabwe Community in South Africa chairperson Ngqabutho Mabhena said foreigners were being asked to produce IDs, yet Home Affairs minister Aaron Motsoaledi said no one would be discriminated against.

Harare City Council Director Nabbed Over Criminal Abuse Of Office

By A Correspondent- Harare City Council’s director of works Isiah Zvenyika Chawatama yesterday appeared in court facing criminal abuse of office charges.

Chawatama (55), who was represented by Admire Rubaya, was granted $20 000 bail by magistrate Judith Taruvinga.

The city boss was remanded to August 23.

The State alleges that on February 16, 2017, one Samuel Nyabezi, the city planner, who is still at large, created a layout plan to create 12 residential stands and one institutional (police) stand at Subdivision C Portion of Strathaven C at corner Quendon/ Lyndhurst Road, Monavale, in Harare.

The stand numbers were ranging from 1138 to 1150 on the land that was allegedly set aside for Freeway Reservation.

Chawatama is alleged to have unlawfully omitted seeking the minister’s consent for change of reservation nor cause the stand numbering done by the survey division.

It is alleged that Nyabezi approved the layout plan without submitting it to the city’s environmental management committee for recommendations nor to full council for approval as per procedure.

Chawatama’s duties, among others, include supervising the city planner, whose responsibilities include creation of layout plans and applying to the Local Government ministry for the minister’s consent for change of reservation of reserved open spaces.

The State alleges that on December 17, 2019, Chawatama allegedly connived with Nyabezi and misrepresented facts to City of Harare’s finance department and the Department of Housing and Community Services through a memorandum dated December 17, 2019 that the aforementioned stands were approved and ready for disposal.

It is alleged that acting on the misrepresentation, the Department of Housing and Community Services went on to dispose of the stands to beneficiaries who were made to pay $50 000 provisional deposit for intrinsic land price.

It is alleged the layout plan number TPF/WR/65/2015 was not recorded in town planning registers and stand numbers on the layout plan do not appear in the survey registers.

Senior Citizen In Soup Over Fake Covid-19 Certificate

By A Correspondent- A senior citizen has been fined $30 000 by a magistrate or alternatively to spend six months in jail for using a fake COVID-19 certificate.

Paul Mpofu (66) of Morningside suburb, Bulawayo, was caught trying to use the bogus certificate at Joshua Mqabuko International Airport on his way to Canada.

He pleaded guilty to charges of fraud when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Steven Ndlovu.

Prosecuting, Evelyn Mutizirwa said on Wednesday, 28 July at around 4 PM, Mpofu presented the fake certificate to health personnel during the check-in process as he intended to travel to South Africa en route to Canada.

Mpofu said he was going to visit his family in Canada and asked the magistrate to feel pity for him as he is a senior citizen.

However, magistrate Ndlovu said such conduct was not expected from a senior citizen. He said:

ED Extends Olive Branch To Mwonzora

By A Correspondent- President Mnangagwa yesterday said MDC-T leader Mr Douglas Mwonzora was free to join the Political Actors Dialogue (Polad) if he wishes. He said this at State House yesterday while handing over 19 Isuzu D-Max vehicles that he promised principals of Polad so that they seamlessly implement national programmes.

The President said he met Mr Mwonzora, in line with protocols that the leader of the opposition should meet with the President, and invited him to join Polad if he wants.

“I met MDC-T leader Mr Douglas Mwonzora, who is the leader of the MDC-T. I was informed by the Speaker of Parliament that he is now the official leader of the opposition in Parliament.

“In terms of the protocols, the leader of the opposition has to meet the President. In the process, I said to him he is free to join Polad although Polad is for principals who participated in the 2018 Presidential elections.

“I thought you will allow him as a leader of a political party.”  Polad is a grouping of politicians who contested the 2018 presidential elections, that was set up to collectively discuss ways of prospering the country, at the same time indicating the oneness that exists among Zimbabweans despite different political parties.

Some contestants in the 2018 harmonised polls have declined to join Polad, insisting they wish to be engaged individually. Yesterday, President Mnangagwa honoured his pledge of providing vehicles to all Polad members so that they seamlessly implement national programmes.

The vehicles are branded with Polad stickers.

“The vehicles have been made identifiable and make sure it carries the dignity of Polad. The cars you, are not going to use them as you see it fit, except that it must be for political work or developmental work.

“Down the line, of course the other purpose belongs to Polad, now that they are given to each political party. In terms of regulations in the public sector, after three years we will then review and make sure that they can belong to you,” he said. The principals are expected to service and maintain the vehicles as well as fuelling them since there is no budget for that, said the President.

He then briefed Polad members about the Government’s commitment to fight the Covid-19 pandemic. Zimbabwe had set aside US$100 million to procure Covid-19 vaccines to inoculate 60 percent of the population to achieve herd immunity.

Said President Mnangagwa: “The pandemic has been a serious challenge to the Government but we did some programmes and projects in the country and raised US$100 million and out of that we have since spent US$93 million and we have acquired 12 million doses.  “So far we have something like 6 million doses in the country. We are still doing our best to acquire more (vaccines) beyond the 12 million to at least 20 million.” Government plans to intensify the vaccination drive across the country. President Mnangagwa said statistics show that those who have been vaccinated don’t succumb easily to the pandemic.

“We want to vaccinate as many of our citizens as possible and fortunately we are receiving cooperation from China, India and the Russian Federation.

“We have been informed that we are going to receive some allocation from the African Union. We paid US$7 million with the AU Centre. We are likely to have some vaccines. This is outside the 20 million (I spoke about).

“It will be a new vaccine, Johnson & Johnson. That’s the one they are offering and we have paid for that,” he said.

The Government, President Mnangagwa said, will do its best to look after its people and ensure the vaccination programme is carried out fairly. He added that every Zimbabwean, those in the Diaspora and those at home will get the vaccine for free.

President Mnangagwa said other people are coming from outside to get the vaccine. “We have seen people flying in at Victoria Falls Airport and Robert Mugabe International Airport, they came from South Africa in particular and some from the United Kingdom to come and get vaccinated but they pay a small fee.  “If they are Zimbabweans, they come in and get vaccinated for free and go back,” he said.

Polad spokesperson Mr Nesbert Mtengezanwa commended President Mnangagwa for his efforts in leading Zimbabwe to new heights of stability and success.

“Your Excellency, we are ready as ever before to work in unison with you in the pursuit and realisation of Vision 2030 for Zimbabwe. The occasion that has brought us here today (yesterday) is of great meaning and of immeasurable importance to Polad.

“We are here at your invitation to handover to us the vehicles you promised last year. Truly, we admit and acknowledge this gesture of giving vehicles for use by Polad in its missions,” said Mr Mtengezanwa.

Polad members expressed satisfaction with President Mnangagwa’s commitment in fighting Covid-19 and spearheading economic growth.-statemedia

Oppah Muchinguri Tears Into The West Over Regime Change Agenda

Oppah Muchinguri

By A Correspondent- Defence and War Veterans Affairs Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri has criticised Western countries for advancing a regime change agenda through funding opposition aligned non-governmental organisations.

She said this on Thursday while presenting a paper on the challenges faced by the National Security Council in national defence planning and development to the students of the National Defence Course at the Zimbabwe National Defence University.

Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri said the West had been unrelenting in its attempts to overthrow the Zanu PF-led Government.

“The West has done this through sinister activities that include funding of opposition political parties and non-governmental organisations pursuing opposition agendas, the unilateral imposition of illegal economic sanctions on Zimbabwe and attempts to influence the outcome of elections in the country, among others.

“Regime change machinations continue to be witnessed up to his day with events from the opposition front testifying to their connivance with the West, particularly those that imposed illegal sanctions on Zimbabwe,” she said.

The regime change agenda, said Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri, almost climaxed in 2007 when West countries attempted to legalise their illegal economic sanctions by bringing Zimbabwe’s case as an agenda item to the United Nations Security Council.

In 2003, the West’s intrusive manoeuvres saw the Zimbabwe taking the bold decision of withdrawal from the Commonwealth to safeguard her sovereignty and territorial integrity after persistent attacks on the Government by Britain and the white Commonwealth countries.

Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri added that in 2019 and last year, recorded an increase in cases of alleged abductions of opposition figures that were always blamed on State agents, despite such abductions always coinciding with world events or high level visits to Zimbabwe, which made them suspicious.

“Efforts to investigate these (alleged abductions) have proved futile as the evidence either is tempered with or the concerned individuals refuse to cooperate with the investigating officers. Of late, the opposition, with the aid of their Western backers, have been planning demonstrations as a way of furthering their regime change agenda.

“Therefore, the security forces have an obligation to remain vigilant and nip such security vices in the bud,” she said.

The imposition of illegal sanctions on the country was also part of the broad agenda to cripple the economy and suffocate the Government’s revenue streams in a bid to eventually cause disaffection in citizens, leading to mayhem and regime change. The minister said the sanctions led to high unemployment rates and shortages of basic commodities on the market.

“Such negativities also culminated in increasing opposition forces against the Government, which however successfully withstood the pressure.

“Although the move by foreign companies to relocate their businesses to neighbouring countries negatively impacted on the Government’s ability to govern effectively, it also had a positive effect of enlightening the Government on the need to have a locally controlled economy as opposed to a foreign controlled one,” said Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri.

The West also used the media aggressively to demonise and tarnish the Government’s image through negative publicity through the use of global media houses such as BBC and CNN. Recently, some regional broadcasters were enlisted to attack Zimbabwe on allegations of human rights abuses but when worse things happen in their countries, the media houses remain mum.

Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri said Government responded by taking every opportunity at public gatherings and international conferences to correct the misinformation and lies peddled by the Western media.

Efforts were also made to have Zimbabwe expelled from the Kimberly Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) following discovery of diamonds in Manicaland, amid lies that the diamonds were a product of human rights abuses.-statemedia

Mr Cross’ Zeal With Limited Knowledge, A Danger To Macro-Economic Stability

By Jameson Dapi- Mr Eddie Cross’s article titled “Challenges facing the foreign exchange auction” made a lot of casual reading amusement, especially for those amongst us uninitiated in the domain of macro-economic analysis.

Beyond the reading, however, the article exhibited a number faults that made it imperative for us who want Zimbabwe to succeed to spring out of our comfort zones and respond with key clarifications.

In broad terms, Mr Cross’ article qualifies for a recklessly compiled mixture of lies, inaccuracies and such other high-sounding innuendoes, all targeted at spooking the markets and destabilising the current macro-economic progress.

The anti-stability tone in the article, which is anchored on disrupting the foreign exchange auction, which is credited with the successful disinflation programme, leaves Mr Cross’s article in sync with the recent rant against Zimbabwe’s progress by his long-time ally, Mr Tendai Biti.

It is no coincidence that the tirade from Mr Cross and Mr Biti came a week apart, flying in the face of reports from the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, acknowledging progress made by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government in fostering macro-economic stability.

This probable linkage is certainly not far-fetched given that opposition remains Mr Cross’s political home.

Coming back to the business of the day, the former MDC legislator was at it again, attempting to blame the country’s central bank, accusing it of allocating more foreign currency than what is available in its coffers.

While his argument may seem plausible, it ignores the seasonal realities of Zimbabwe’s foreign exchange earnings. Zimbabwe, like any other commodity exporting developing country, experiences perennial fluctuations in foreign exchange receipts.  Such a sad but factual position demands that the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) plays the smoothening role for the economy given its birds’ eye view of foreign exchange earnings, which allows it to forecast inflows over the medium to long-term with reasonable accuracy.

Of course, require the full support of key stakeholders such as exporters and the banking sector in pursuit of national interests and in a way that counters the sanctions-induced liquidity restrictions if these measures are to succeed. Unless overcome by some ruinous motive, Mr Cross should have known that even at corporate level, it is normal to have an intertemporal mismatch between revenues and expenditures. Such mismatches, at both enterprise and macro-economic levels, are not harmful for as long as they are not structural or out of sync with underlying fundamentals.

In normal macro-economic management, a central bank has recourse to official reserves as a buffer to mitigate the effects of fluctuations in foreign exchange earnings. In other words, it is common cause that neither companies nor nations operate on a cash basis like backyard tuckshops as Mr Cross wants Zimbabweans to believe. The country’s historical and current gross official reserve position is a matter of public record and hence the Central Bank’s current innovative arrangements with exporters and banks to keep the economy going.

If Mr Cross was really serious about establishing the facts, the Minister of Finance and Economic Development as well as the RBZ Governor, Dr John Mangudya, are a phone call away. After all, until recently he was a member of the Monetary Policy Committee.

Unfortunately, it is not about respecting the correctness of facts. In his myopic agenda to discredit the prevailing macro-economic stability as part of a regime change agenda, facts have become an inconvenient truth. What Mr Cross and his handlers are forgetting is that lies have got short legs; they cannot run a marathon.

Mr Cross is, however, no fool! Having worked for the colonial Ian Smith regime, where he used to occupy strategic positions at the Agricultural Marketing Authority, Dairy Marketing Board and Cold Storage Commission in the 1970s, he knows where to strike in order to destabilise the system. There is therefore no prize for guessing that his target is the foreign currency auction, whose introduction in July last year calmed markets which were in turmoil and fomenting public disenchantment against President Mnangagwa’s government.

Mr Cross obviously knows that a fluctuating figure of allocations on the auction exudes and transmit negative perception among suppliers of raw materials and other products to the economy with potential implications for unnecessary commodity shortages in the economy. Such a development, would negate the country’s current growth trajectory, reverse the disinflation gains and advance everything against the Second Republics Vision 2030.

It is, therefore, difficult to understand how such common central banking mechanics and linkages with the wider economy evaded a former RBZ insider, Mr Cross, unless it was deliberate and targeted at disrupting the markets. What further leaves Mr Cross’s article with a bitter taste is his previous efforts to sabotage and unstrategically announcing priviledged information to the detriment of the national cause. A case in point is when the former MDC stalwart almost single-handedly derailed the successful introduction of higher denomination notes after prematurely announcing their introduction.

To be precise, Zimbabwe’s external sector and other macro-economic fundamentals are fully supportive of the medium to long-term sustainability of the foreign exchange auction on account of a resilient balance of payments position, headlined by a current account surplus, monetary restraint anchored on strict reserve money targeting and fiscal astuteness.

The economy is expected grow by 7.4% in 2021 on the back of strong export growth, increased capacity utilisation by domestic industry and above all, the now demonstrable commitment of the Second Republic towards market-friendly economic policies. This background has seen the economy enjoying phenomenal export growth (31% year-on-year to May 2021), resilient remittance inflows and attainment of food self-sufficiency following a highly successful 2020/21 agricultural season entail a significant reduction in cereal imports.

The long running thread in Mr Cross’ article is his attempt to inform macro-economic policy through whipping stakeholders’ emotions using street and bar estimates of important variables such as his imagined US$3 billion worth of smuggled gold, the number of Zimbabweans in the diaspora and their remittance motives as well as the volumes of smuggled imports.

While these figures are flying out there, it would extremely irresponsible for Dr Mangudya and Minister Ncube to take such figure as inputs into formulating important policies like the exchange rate management policy. There is certainly need for well-designed studies to ascertain these variables.

My IT friend always talks of the concept of garbage-in garbage-out whereby flawed data input produces nonsense or faulty output. This concept also applies squarely in other fields, including economics.  It should, therefore, not come as a surprise that after feeding from a collection of unscientifically generated and probably politically motivated figures, Mr Cross came to a ridiculous conclusion that recklessly abandoning the foreign exchange auction system at the RBZ would turn into a magic wand that miraculously strengthens the domestic currency to its old exchange of approximately ZW$2 to the green back.

We indeed share Mr Cross’s passion for a stronger local currency but choose to follow science, fact and rationality in pursuit of that goal knowing that exchange rate and currency management decisions affects livelihoods.

Finally, Mr Cross has priviledged access to important leaders like the President, the Governor and Minister of Finance whom I believe could have willingly assisted the former MDC legislator with accurate figures and facts to guide his public rant and spare market his self-serving meant to spook the markets.

Without accusing Mr Cross of anything, I prefer in my parting shot to highlight that United States sanctions transmission methodology has always and continued to be promoting despondency especially relating to exchange rates in order to stoke inflation expectations and generate instability.

Could it be that Mr Cross’ screaming article on US$200 million auction backlog is intended to serve the same purpose or its mere coincidence? The jury is still out.

Mentally Ill Man Torches Family Home

By A Correspondent- A mentally ill man in Bulawayo’s Queens Park suburb ran amok and torched a family house following a dispute with his mother.

The man has been identified as Trevor Nyamakawo (29).

Bulawayo Fire Brigade senior divisional officer Linos Phiri confirmed the incident yesterday.

“On Thursday at 3:44pm, we received a call from residents. On arrival, the brigade found a sixroomed private residential house on fire. The fire had covered all the rooms and the roof had already curved in,” Phiri said.

“The fire brigade observed that the house was locked, with all windows closed, front windows from the lounge were smashed and the entire house was engulfed with fire. Thick heavy smoke could be observed from a distance.”

He said the fire was a result of arson.

“Household contents were severely damaged by the fire. Police officers in riot gear were standing outside the premises helpless as the entire house was engulfed with fire,” Phiri said.

“About 70% of the structure and roof were damaged by the fire. The estimated value loss is $800 000.”

Phiri said the fire brigade learnt that Nyamakawo had arrived in the country from South Africa two days before the incident.

“The son, who jetted in two days ago from neighbouring South Africa, had a dispute with his mother. He claimed his late father’s house and tried to chase his mother and other siblings out of the house,” Phiri said.

“The following day, his mother had to seek help from Queens Park Police and two officers accompanied her to the premises.

“They tried to talk with the young man to solve the family dispute and he became violent and equipped himself with a dangerous weapon.”

Phiri said Nyamakawo allegedly took a knife, forcing police officers to seek reinforcement.

When they returned, he had already set the house ablaze.-newsday

ZINWA To Shut Down Water Of Over US$2.4billion

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) yesterday went on a nationwide water cut-ting exercise to press for the recovery of $2,4 billion owed by its customers.

Zinwa spokesperson Marjorie Munyonga said no one would be spared in the latest blitz as the organisation mobilises financial resources to buy water treatment chemicals.

Yesterday, Zinwa had already cut supplies to Gwanda, and Beitbridge, home to one of sub-Saharan Africa’s busiest border posts, was next in line.

“We are not sparing anyone. The ZNA (Zimbabwe National Army), ZRP (Zimbabwe Republic Police), ZPCS (Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services)and several government departments and several local authorities will have their supplies cut,” Munyonga said.

“We are aware of what impact this will have, but we were left with no choice. We are unable to operate. We cannot pay for our electricity, we cannot buy water treatment chemicals:’ The development comes as the country is fighting a deadly third wave of the virulent COVID-19 respiratory disease, which requires that citizens regularly wash their hands with running water.

“There is nothing we can do about it. We are also on the verge of being cut off by Zesa. We also owe some $200 million,” the Zinwa spokesperson said.

Beitbridge town clerk Loud Ramakgapola said the border town owed Zinwa $205 million and it had received warnings from the water authority. Reports said Gwanda owed Zinwa $193 million.

Gwanda and Beitbridge have been trying in vain to be weaned from Zinwa in their water supplies. Most cities in the country run their water affairs. Many Beitbridge residents, hit hard by the latest COVID-19 wave, yesterday expressed displeasure at the latest development. They urged the Finance ministry to intervene.

“Everyone knows local authorities inherited this problem from a celebratory stunt by then Local Government, Public Works and National Housing minister Ignatius Chombo, who cancelled all water bills for ratepayers, but did not effect that at Zinwa,” said Granger Nyoni of Beitbridge.

Ahead of the 2013 general elections, Chombo cancelled water bills to residents, leaving local authorities on the brink of bankruptcy.

“Lockdown Regulations Fuelling Corruption”

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) has said enforcement of COVID-19 regulations has fuelled corruption in communities.

In its 2020 annual report released recently, ZHRC said the lockdown measures negatively affected citizens’ enjoyment of economic, social and cultural rights, resulting in conflicts between the public and law enforcement agents.

The commission recorded a 39,9% increase in the number of complaints in 2020 as compared to the previous year.

Most of the complaints were on service delivery and human rights issues.

“The pandemic seriously affected the enjoyment of civil and political rights and economic, social, cultural and environmental rights. COVID-19 threatened the right to life the world over,” ZHRC said.

“From complaints received by the commission and engagements with various stakeholders, it was evident that there were concerns about excesses and partiality in enforcing regulations.

“This non-adherence to principles of necessity, proportionality and non-discrimination resulted in various conflicts between the public, human rights defenders and activists on one hand and law enforcement agencies on the other. The situation became a breeding ground for other vices like corruption, abuse of power and office.”

The commission condemned torture and acts of cruelty towards civilians, regardless of the circumstances.

“It should be noted that when limiting or restricting rights, there are certain factors that are taken into account, for example, whether the limitation is proportional to the intended objective, is not discriminatory, of a limited duration, respectful of human dignity and subject to review,” ZHRC said.

“The commission emphasised that certain rights could not be limited at all such as freedom from torture, cruel and inhuman and degrading treatment, right to human dignity and right to a fair trial.”

The public also raised concern over the prolonged closure of schools, saying it was curtailing enjoyment of the right to education.

The COVID-19 lockdown also affected the people’s sources of livelihoods, which resulted in food shortages in communities, according to the report.

This week, the Judicial Service Commission approved the proposed new schedule of fines for COVID-19 regulation violations, which will see offenders paying a maximum of $5 000 for violating preventive protocols.

Legislators, however, argued that the hefty fines would promote corruption as the cash-squeezed public would opt to pay bribes than go to court.

“Men Worst Affetcted In Spousal Abuse”: Report

By A Correspondent- A survey has shown that spousal abuse cases are high in the country with men being the most affected. The predominant form of spousal abuse is emotional, economic and physical abuse.

This is contained in the Zimbabwe Vulnerability Assessment Committee (ZimVAC) Rural Livelihoods Assessment (ULA) 2021 covering provinces excluding Bulawayo and Harare.

The report shows that among couples, 6,01 percent of men have suffered emotionally while 5,7 percent of women have experienced the same.

The ZimVAC report shows that 3,8 percent of men have suffered economic abuse while 3,7 percent of married women are also affected by economic abuse. It further states that 2,8 percent of married men have suffered physical abuse and 2,6 percent of women have been subjected to physical abuse.

The report says sexual abuse cases are low among married couples where 1,2 percent of men reported being sexually abused while 1,5 of women suffered the same.

“There are high incidences of emotional abuse among spouses, 6,01 percent for males and 5,76 percent for females nationally. Generally, emotional abuse was high for both males and females while sexual abuse had the lowest reported incidents,” reads the ZimVAC report.

The report is however, silent on what is causing emotional, physical and economic abuse among couples. Gender activists said various reasons may be contributing to spousal abuse. Local gender activist Ms Abigail Siziba said it was not surprising that most men were victims of economic abuse as they are expected to provide for their families.

“If you look at the statistics, they show that men are mostly being abused economically and emotionally and the major cause is poverty as most people lost their jobs due to lockdown. Culturally men are expected to be breadwinners. If there is not enough food in the house, men are to blame, leading to them being abused,” said Ms Siziba.

She said as a result of the national lockdown the whole family might be spending a lot of time at home and the demand for food increases. This, Ms Siziba said, could also be a source of emotional and economic abuse, particularly for men. He said infidelity matters may also contribute to emotional abuse.

Mrs Siziba said it was however, encouraging that men who endure abuse are now speaking unlike in the past when they suffered in silence. Another gender activist Ms Lindiwe Ndebele said a lot of social pressures were to blame for the increasing cases of emotional and economic abuse.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has affected relationships because families have lost incomes after many breadwinners lost jobs. Gender-Based Violence cases (GBV) on both sides (men and women) are on the increase,” said Ms Ndebele.

Men’s Conference executive director Mr Makhosi Sibanda said if a man as the head of the family is not happy it means that the whole family will not be happy.

“In essence we are going to breed unhappy families because men are expected to be the head of the family. Being the head of the family means being able to do more for the family. Someone who can show love to his family, someone who can provide opportunities for his family and improve the lives of the family. So, if the men are unhappy it means we are going to have unhappy communities,” said Mr Sibanda.

He said increase in abuse cases among married people could be as a result of spending more time together due to the lockdown. Enkundleni/ Padare Men’s Forum programmes officer Mr Ziphongezipho Ndelebe said the impact of emotional abuse among couples could have a serious effect on victims.-statemedia

Mola Residents Sue Govt Over Underdevelopment

By A Correspondent- Having been displaced during the construction of the Kariba Dam and now living at the peripheries of Zimbabwe’s largest hydro-electric power project, Kariba, it is only logical that the Batonga people of Mola in Siakobvu and Nyaminyami districts should have access to power. However, for the Mola residents, it is, indeed, a case of so near yet so far as they have had no electricity for the past two years.

“Our belief is that it is totally repugnant and especially exclusionary for an entire district, one which is a producer of hydroelectric power, to go for over two years without electricity, the production of which has permanently and so far, negatively altered our lives,” the Mola residents claim in a court application placed before the High Court.

The Mola residents have taken to court the Zambezi Water Authority, Nyaminyami Rural District Council, Kariba MP John Roland Houghton, Zimbabwe National Parks and Wild-life Management Authority and the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority Holdings Limited for contributing to the underdevelopment of the area.

The residents have also dragged to court several Cabinet ministers, among them Mangaliso Ndlovu (Environment, Water and Cli-mate), Cain Mathema (Primary and Secondary Education), Zhemu Soda (Energy and Power Development), Kazembe Kazembe (Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage), and Attorney-General Prince Machaya.

In a court application seen by NewsDay Weekender, in addition to power outage, the Mola residents “are effectively cut off from the rest of the world as Mola is inaccessible by phone or by road”.

“Often, we have to traverse several kilometres just to get mobile network connectivity and do simple things such as to send text messages or phone calls,” the Mola Residents Forum says in the application.

Lessons at one of the primary schools in the area, Kauzhumba Primary in Dumbula village, are conducted in the open under trees following the collapse of classrooms in 2008. The school, with an enrolment of about 400 pupils, does not meet the Primary and Secondary Education ministry standards of an examination centre, hence Grade Seven pupils walk 15km to go and sit for examinations at Marembera Primary School.

According to the court application, the residents “are seeking a declaratory order enforcing the right to language and culture, as well as the right to education, access to health care and the right to environmental protection.

“We would also assert the principles of public administration set out in section 194 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.”

The Mola people are further demanding that they be able to practise their language and culture protected under section 63 of the Constitution and that they be permitted to practise their culture of holding traditional rites and ceremonies and practice their artisanal fishing.

The Mola people are being represented by the Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights). ZimRights national director Dzikamai Bere told NewsDay Weekender that what was happening to the Batonga people in Mola was an atrocity.

“The Batonga people have paid dearly for development. Their ancestors were displaced by the Kariba Dam project in the 1950s, on a promise of a better life he said.

“Many years later, they are living like second-class citizens. The responsibility to protect their human dignity falls on all of us, including corporates.”

Over 57 000 people were displaced during the construction of the Kariba Dam.

ZimRights projects lawyer Kenias Shonhai, who is assisting the community, said in the application, “the Mola people also want freedom of movement within the Zambezi Valley and its surrounds, basic education rights for their children, environmental rights and access to public resources including locally generated electric power and water which they want to be made immediately available.”

“At the time the Mola people were relocated, they had been promised that the water will always benefit them. However, the greater part of the dam shore is leased to private players who do not tolerate any artisanal fishing, a way of life the Mola people had been accustomed to. Their way of life has greatly been altered. Fishing is now for the privileged and well-connected people,” said Shonhai.

He said their clients were worried by the neglect they are experiencing and are now demanding development in their area.

“They believe the legal route is their last hope, they are praying that the courts address their demands and force the government and all its relevant agencies to act in ensuring service provision to their community,” added Shonhai.

Funeral Service Providers Warn Of Mass Graves As Covid-19 Deaths Soar

By A Correspondent- Funeral service providers have indicated that they are overwhelmed by COVID-19 deaths and warned that the country could be forced to bury deceased citizens in mass graves if the upward trend of new infections and deaths continues.

The funeral service providers, whose profits are determined by the increase in death rate, painted a gloomy picture of the situation in the morgues at a time the country was ravaged by increased fatalities to the virulent virus.

In a virtual address delivered on Thursday, Nyaradzo Funeral Services chief executive officer Phillip Mataranyika said his firm’s morgues were overwhelmed with dead bodies, resulting in it taking longer to bury the deceased.

He said the company’s preparatory measures against the pandemic, which included doubling mortuary capacity and recruitment of more staff, were eclipsed by the surge in deaths.

“Removal of our dead to the custody of the end of life service providers has been slow,” Mataranyika said.

“Where ordinarily it took a couple of minutes, it is now taking hours. Burial has been delayed in some cases by a day or two. In other cases, we have not been given definite burial times. In some countries, there has been burial of COVID-19 deaths in mass graves because (funeral) service providers were overwhelmed. This happened in the United States and India, as examples. In Zimbabwe, we have not yet gotten to the stage, but let us not be complacent. The future is uncertain and we can very well get to that stage.”

While announcing fresh lockdown measures recently, President Emmerson Mnangagwa urged citizens to get vaccinated, stating that approximately 80% of the latest COVID-19 cases in the country were of the Delta variant, first detected in India.

This week on Tuesday, Zimbabwe recorded 107 deaths, the highest record since the beginning of the pandemic in March last year.

On Thursday, the country recorded 2 089 new cases and 81 deaths, up from 60 recorded the previous day.

“Our hospitals are full of the sick and our morgues are full of the dead,” Mataranyika said.

“Our colleagues in the health sector are doing all they can to save lives. Sometimes their efforts are not rewarded, resulting in loss of lives and this has happened on numerous occasions. Each time this has happened, morgues have borne the brunt. Because there have been many deaths, the end of life industry has faced immense pressure, resulting in delays all round.”

The warning came at a time when the United States Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has indicated that the Delta variant, which is prevalent in Zimbabwe, was as contagious and transmissible as chicken pox.

Data from the US CDC shows that the Delta variant is deadlier than earlier stated, as it could infect and be spread by people who are fully vaccinated, according to a CNN report.

Moonlight Funeral Assurance and Services director Charity Mungofa said due to the limited working hours under level 4 lockdown, the company was sometimes failing to meet the demand for burial services required per day.

She said the company still had enough space in its morgues, but was facing staff shortage.

“We would have all bereaving families wanting to lay to rest their beloved at almost the same time so that they finish the process before curfew time,” Mungofa said.

“As a result, we have a situation where the demand for undertakers is higher than the available employees.”

She said the company was providing services for an average of 15 deaths per day.

Doves Holdings Zimbabwe spokesperson Innocent Tshuma said the company anticipated an increased demand and had adopted some preparatory measures, but it was experiencing some delays in burials.

“There are several deceased coming from certain hotspots from time-totime, hence removals of bodies may take slightly longer,” he said.

“We are currently operating at less than 50% of our mortuary capacity. We have ordered new hearses, tents and other tools of the trade to ensure we are able to provide dignified sendoffs to our loved ones.”

Mpilo Central Hospital acting chief executive officer Solwayo Ngwenya said if the public continued defying COVID-19 regulations, more vicious variants, the Delta Plus and Vietnamese, could hit the country.

Speaking during a programme Isiqokoqela Sendaba, hosted on State broadcaster yesterday, Ngwenya said the country risked being hit by more vicious variants because they mutate in overcrowded places.

“Our people are disregarding all the COVID-19 measures. They are attending funeral wakes all night, visiting each other. There is too much crowding which leads to the spread of variants,” he said.

“There are two more very deadly variants that will wipe people. We have Delta Plus and Vietnamese variants. The last one is a combination of the British and the Indian variants. These are very deadly, they kill more than the Delta variant. We risk being hit by those if our people don’t change their behaviour.”

Famous Byo Doctor Succumbs To Covid-19

Dr Shamiso Matekere

By A Correspondent- A famous Bulawayo medical doctor, Dr Shamiso Matekere, has succumbed to COVID-19. She passed away on Thursday in Bulawayo.

Dr Matekere was the founder of the Elite Medical Clinic situated along corner 5th Avenue and Josiah Tongogara Street.

She was also the brains behind the medical mission which for years had been targeting underprivileged rural folk who could not afford specialists health care services.

Dr Matekere’s death was confirmed by the Zimbabwe Medical Association president Dr Francis Chiwora on Friday.

He said:

She was a young and hard-working cadre who succumbed to COVID-19 and there is nothing as devastating as knowing one of you died as a result of trying to save lives.

She indeed paid the ultimate price of trying to save lives and her death is nothing but a painful reminder of the havoc that this global pandemic is causing.

We are pained when we lose our patients to COVID-19 and it’s even worse when it’s one of us as we continue trying our best to save our people from this global pandemic.

Thousands of villagers from Lupane, Nkayi, and Gwanda benefited from medical outreach programmes which the late Dr Matekere facilitated with her pastor and leader of the Abundant Life Revival Mission International Church.

Abundant Life Revival Mission International Church founder and pastor, Prophet Itai Ukama said Dr Matekere’s death is a huge blow to Matabeleland as a region as she was also known for attending to patients free of charge even in Bulawayo.

He said:

I had the privilege to work with her, just like her name she never ceased to surprise all of us and honestly, her death is a surprise to many, we still cannot believe she is no more.

She was not just an ordinary human being because she served wholeheartedly without expecting riches in return like some of our health practitioners.

… We have lost a daughter, someone who loved the people of Matabeleland. Villagers especially from Ndamuleni Village will grieve bitterly when they hear that their doctor has died of COVID-19.

I am devastated and as a church, we know that without her our medical outreach programmes will never be the same.

Naked Twins Arrested Along Seke Road

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of two male twins who were caught walking the streets naked along Seke Road in Harare.

The Highfield twin boys (21) were seen in a video circulating on social media walking naked along Seke Road near Sunningdale.

In the video clip, the two boys were reciting the Lord’s prayer while people were heard shouting that the boys deserved mob justice.

The Lord’s prayer is a common prayer recited by Christians and is found in the Christian Bible (Matthew (6:9-13) and Luke (11:2-4).

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident saying investigations are still in progress. He said:

Yes, we can confirm that we received a report of two boys who were walking naked along Seke Road without even face masks, so we are waiting for medical experts to examine them and see their mental status before the matter is taken to court.

Asst Comm Nyathi said the boys were taken to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital and Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.

A mental health nurse at Sally Mugabe Central hospital who refused to be named told The Herald that the men suffer from mental illnesses and there are no issues of ritual acts as alleged by some people.

The nurse added that they were each admitted to the psychiatric units at these two hospitals.

In 2006, the Fichani twins pulled a similar stunt, walking in central Harare, Mount Pleasant and other places, wearing goatskins kilts (nhembe) that covered the essentials only but left the buttocks exposed.

Mbuya Gudo “Curses ” Mnangagwa

Tinashe Sambiri|Prominent social media user Mbuya Gudo from Dotito has declared that the Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa is unelectable.

This comes at a time Zanu PF has announced it wants to raise USD $ 140 million to bolster Mr Mnangagwa’s 2023 Presidential Election campaign.

According to Mbuya Gudo, even if Michael Jackson is to rise from the dead, Mr Mnangagwa will not win the 2023 Presidential Election.

“Chero Michael Jackson akamuka kuvafi to campaign for ED, he will never win elections!!!! I see Mnangangwa family is trying hard kuunganidza ma celebrities, 2023 will humble you all ndipo pamuchaziva kuti your father’s political career existed because of Mugabe. ED is unelectable,” declared Mbuya Gudo.

Prominent journalist Hopewell Chin’ono scoffed at Zanu PF’s announcement that USD $ 140 million will be raised towards the coming elections at a time the health sector is in a pathetic state.

“Mnangagwa is using US$140 million for his 2023 election campaign.

US$140m will run ALL of Zimbabwe’s central hospitals for 3 years, today they have no medication.

If he had delivered on his promises, he wouldn’t need to buy votes with US$140m.

Go and #RegisterToVoteZW for 2023,” argued Chin’ono.

Chiwenga Mourns Angela Haritatos

“I’m Angered Wife Zanu PF Grandee Died A Pauper” Said Mliswa – How Naïve Since 49% Of Populous Are Paupers.

How naïve!

Mnangagwa Gets A Third Uninvited Visitor At State House

A Shamva man on Tuesday visited State House in Harare demanding to see President Emmerson Mnangagwa over a dream.

The man becomes the third in two weeks to visit the highly-protected place.

Isaac Tsuro (27) yesterday appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court after he was arrested at the gate by State security agents.

Tsuro, who appeared before magistrate Judith Taruvinga, was remanded in custody to August 23. Taruvinga ordered that he be medically examined by a psychiatrist while in prison.

It is the State’s case that on July 27, at around 1620hrs, the accused was walking along Chancellor Road near the State House.

While at the place, Tsuro approached the security personnel manning the entrance and demanded to see Mnangagwa, indicating that he wanted to tell the President his dream.

It is alleged that Tsuro persisted on his demands to be allowed in, which resulted in his arrest.

Last week, Nigel Rutsito (37) was arrested at the State House gate after he lied that he was a member of the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO), while another trespasser Dylan Kanyungwe (24) stormed into the premises on the same day and demanded to see Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga.

Rutsito went to State House on July 17 at around 4am and told security personnel at the main gate that he was a CIO member and had come for duty.

He allegedly insisted on entering the State residence, but the security personnel asked for his identity document, which he failed to produce, leading to his arrest. Kanyungwe is alleged to have approached members of the Presidential Guard at around 1pm on the same day and demanded to see Chiwenga.

He allegedly became violent and tried to force his way into State House after being told that Chiwenga did not stay there.

Polad Vehicles : Losing A Presidential Election Can Get You A Car

By Tinashe Eric Muzamhindo| This evening, I decided to switch to ZTV, only to witness the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa, was dishing out state of art vehicles to losing 2018 candidates, who joined POLAD. Notably, I saw one character, Joel Mugadza, receiving his vehicle. Honestly, I can’t control my laughter, I stopped eating, honestly, where on earth have you seen, a losing candidate, in a harmonized election, being rewarded a vehicle , for joining Political Dialogue ( POLAD)? Really, have we gone below this belt, to waste state resources, when we have the following projects which could have been prioritized ;
1. Decongestion of the city
2. Creating fly overs between Harare & Chitungwiza, between Harare & Norton or between Harare & Mazoe etc
3. Refurbishment of major highways

4. Dealing with our old infrastructure ( old buildings)

5. Improving the health sector

6. Improving the welfare of civil servants
7. Improving the livelihood of the ordinary Zimbabweans

8. Industrialization. Focusing on increasing productivity

9. Creating cities around Harare

10. Deploying Resources around critical sectors of the economy such as infrastructure development, mining, Agriculture, industry , tourism and Mining

Where on earth, have you seen this? What is this honestly? We need leadership therapy. All things being equal, all Zimbabweans must go through mental vaccination, or we need some therapy, because of the prolonged toxic nature of our environment.

Diasporans Keep Zim Economy Running

Zimbabweans living abroad have channelled US$746.9 million in diaspora remittances in the first half of this year, something set to spur economic development in their financially troubled homeland.

This was revealed in parliament Thursday by Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube while presenting his 2021 Mid-Term Budget and Economic Review statement.

“Between January and June 2021, the country received US$746.9 million in diaspora remittances compared to US$288.7 million received during the same period last year.

“Remittances are projected to continue to drive the current account surplus in 2021, with end year projection of US$1.3 billion,” said the minister.

Responding to Ncube’s address, MPs called for incentives to be afforded to citizens channelling funds through the formal system.

Zanu PF MP for Gutu South, Pupurayi Togarepi called for government to invent strategies that would ensure citizens channelling their hard earned resources back home do not lose to unscrupulous intermediaries, among them, land barons.

He added, “I think it is critical that we support the diaspora and continue to open and come up with attractive investment opportunities for these people so that we rake in that money and that money can then support development in our country.”

Uzumba MP Simba Mudarikwa said “Diasporans must be supported left, right and centre”, adding that “we must even have a diaspora support system where we have a register and virtual conferences with Zimbabweans in different countries.”

MDC MP for Hatcliff, Allan Norman Rusty Markham called on Treasury to ensure the money channelled through remittances is utilised correctly to encourage citizens living abroad to continue remitting their money to the country, through forms of security to their investments.

He called on government “to register the diaspora so that we can make them feel wanted back home so that they continue bringing money to us”.

In his response, minister Ncube acknowledged diaspora remittances were an important component to national development adding that “we will be able to announce a few products going forward targeting our Diaspora”.

Ncube was however quick to admit government could only do so much in terms of harnessing diaspora remittances towards national development adding that “remittances are voluntary transfers by Zimbabweans abroad either for investment of their own choice or to support their families”.

“Perhaps we cannot really direct it but rather we can offer instruments and incentives for it to be attracted in specific areas,” he said.

Ngozi Torments Rusape Family. ..

A RUSAPE family’s murder secret of seven years recently came out in the open as the avenging spirit of a slain teacher is now giving them a torrid time.

The Maziofa family of Masvosva Village under Chief Chiduku are begging for forgiveness from the Chigweses after one of them was abducted in the presence of school pupils seven years ago.

Edward Maziofa is alleged to have teamed up with Patrick Mupfekeri (now late) to kill Bernard Chigwese in cold blood following a botched cattle selling deal.

The two men allegedly performed some rituals on Chigwese’s body.

However, the Maziofas have now revealed that they have been having sleepless nights as Chigwese’s spirit is allegedly tormenting them, with some members developing mental illnesses and experiencing bad omens.

Last month, the avenging spirit struck hard when Francis Maziofa committed suicide by hanging from a tree branch in Makoni Country Club Golf Course. Francis’ father, Mekia allegedly played a key role in shielding Edward from facing justice for Chigwese’s murder.

Mupfekeri and Maziofa allegedly abducted Chigwese at Masvosva Primary School and dragged him to a nearby bush where they fatally assaulted him.

They allegedly dumped his body in a nearby bush with a bottle containing unknown substances and a candle on his body.

His body was discovered the following day by fellow villagers.- Manica Post

Mthuli “Pampers” Defence Ministry Again

By A Correspondent- The government spent higher amounts funding operations of the Defence and War Veterans ministry during the first half of the year, compared to expenditures committed to crucial sectors, such as health care, data released by the Ministry of Finance has revealed.

Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube’s Mid-Term Budget Review presented on Thursday showed that the amount of money channelled towards defence was higher than the funds that were deployed to fighting the coronavirus.

The data showed that the Defence and War Veterans Ministry had already expended ZW$14,5 billion (US$169,4 million) during the first half of the year, which represents 61% of its annual vote totalling ZW$23,8 billion (US$278 million).

In contrast, the Ministry of Health and Child Care spent ZW$9,4 billion (US$109,8 million) during the same period, out of the ZW$54 billion (US$630,8 million) 2021 budget allocation.

Further, the Defence and War Veterans Ministry expenditure was way above the national average of expenditures.

The Office of the President and Cabinet, whose annual budget is ZW$14,2 billion (US$165,8 million), had utilised ZW$8 billion (US$93,4 million) during the first half of the year.

This is just ZW$4 billion (US$46,7 million) below the ZW$9,4 billion (US$109,8 million) spent on health and child care during the same period.

Mbuya Gudo Tears Into Mnangagwa

Tinashe Sambiri|Prominent social media user Mbuya Gudo from Dotito has declared that the Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa is unelectable.

This comes at a time Zanu PF has announced it wants to raise USD $ 140 million to bolster Mr Mnangagwa’s 2023 Presidential Election campaign.

According to Mbuya Gudo, even if Michael Jackson is to rise from the dead, Mr Mnangagwa will never win the 2023 Presidential Election.

Former Warriors Star Blasts Kaizer Chiefs

Former Warriors left-back Charles Yohane, believes Willard Katsande still had value to Kaizer Chiefs more than veteran striker Bernard Parker, but Amakhosi chose to show him the exit door because he is a foreigner.

The Amakhosi hierarchy decided to not extend the 35-year midfield workhorse’ contract and he is leaving the club after a decade of service, but Yoahane believes it is in Chiefs’ nature to treat foreign players like that.

“It was an awful way of sending him off after 10 years of service to the club. I felt the sending off should have had some respect,” he told South African publication Kick Off.

“With Willard having been the senior player that he was, his sending off shouldn’t have been like that of any other player that they decided not to keep. Chiefs already knew that they will not keep Willard, so I feel they should have let him know about it in advance rather than waiting to let him know at the last minute like they have done now. Where does he go next? Even if they are offering him something within the club, should he now make a hasty decision? Chiefs should have prepared him for this instead of just dumping him just like that. Chiefs showed no compassion for Willard.”

“How do you release a player after playing in a Champions League final? Chiefs had been his home for 10 years and earned his respect but now he had to be treated like he is old and useless. I don’t think all of this is sitting well with him, and there is no way he would be in a good space considering how this all happened. I feel Willard still had more value in that team than [Bernard] Parker.”

Continued the former Bidvest Wits defender: “I don’t understand how Chiefs show so little respect for someone who gave his heart for 10 years. He was playing regularly for all those 10 years and suddenly he is pushed out just like that at the last minute. How are other players going to be motivated to stay long if the reward is that you will be treated this way at the end? I don’t think it was a matter of Willard not being able to play anymore. Whenever he played, he gave his all, including in the recent CAF Champions League semi-finals and finals.”

“Maybe Willard was treated this way because he is a foreigner because this is the same thing that happened to Tinashe Nengomasha after 10 years with the club. Nengomasha was not finished upon leaving Chiefs and this tells me that at Chiefs, you can never retire there as a foreign player, they will send you away regardless of what you did for the club,” he concluded.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Why You Need To Quit Smoking Today

  1. Smokers have a greater risk of developing a severe case and dying from COVID-19.

Tobacco affects your looks almost immediately
  2. Everything stinks! From your skin, to your whole house, your clothes, and your fingers and breath.
  3. Tobacco causes teeth to yellow and creates excess dental plaque.
  4. Smoking tobacco and the use of smokeless tobacco cause bad breath.
  5. Tobacco makes your skin wrinkly, making you look older faster. Smoking prematurely ages the skin by wearing away proteins that give the skin elasticity, depleting it of vitamin A and restricting blood flow.
  6. These wrinkles are more apparent around the lips and eyes and tobacco also makes skin leathery and dry.
  7. Tobacco smoking increases the risk of developing psoriasis, a noncontagious inflammatory skin condition that leaves itchy, oozing red patches all over the body.

It threatens the health of your friends and family – not just you.

  1. Over 1 million people die every year from exposure to second-hand smoke.
  2. Non-smokers exposed to second-hand smoke are at risk of developing lung cancer.
  3. Cigarettes remain an important cause of accidental fires and resulting deaths.
  4. E-cigarettes also expose non-smokers and bystanders to nicotine and other harmful chemicals.
  5. Being exposed to second-hand smoke may increase the risk of progression from tuberculosis infection to active disease.
  6. Being exposed to second-hand smoke is associated with type 2 diabetes.

Smoking or using e-cigarettes around children compromises their health and safety

  1. Smokers’ children suffer reduced lung function, which continues to affect them in the form of chronic respiratory disorders in adulthood.
  2. Exposure of children to e-cigarette liquid continues to pose serious risks. There is a risk of the devices leaking, or of children swallowing the liquid.
  3. E-cigarettes have been known to cause serious injuries, including burns, through fires and explosions.
  4. School-aged children exposed to the harmful effects of second-hand smoke are also at risk for asthma through inflammation of the airways to the lungs.
  5. Children under 2 years of age who are exposed to second-hand smoke in the home could get middle-ear disease possibly leading to hearing loss and deafness.
  6. Quitting smoking decreases the risk of many diseases related to second-hand smoke in children, such as respiratory diseases (e.g., asthma) and ear infections.

Tobacco use has negative social consequences

  1. You want to be a good example for your kids, friends, and loved ones.
  2. Tobacco use can affect social interactions and relationships negatively.
  3. Quitting means there are no restrictions on where you can go – you can mingle socially, without feeling isolated or having to go outside to smoke.
  4. Quitting can make you more productive – you won’t have to stop what you are doing to have a smoke all the time.

It’s expensive – you could be spending your money on more important things

  1. One study found that smokers burn through an average of $1.4 million in personal costs, includes spending on cigarettes, medical costs and lower wages brought on by smoking and exposure to secondhand smoke.
  2. Tobacco use affects the health and productivity of workers making them prone to missed days at work.
  3. Tobacco use contributes to poverty by diverting household spending from basic needs such as food and shelter to tobacco.

Woman Caught Arranging S*x Romps With Lover

A Gwanda man stumbled upon sleazy WhatsApp messages in his wife’s phone in which she was arranging sex romps with her alleged lover.

A distraught Tawanda Kaseke shared his ordeal with B-Metro, sensationally revealing the dirty stuff which his wife Miriam Neshiri was sharing with her unidentified lover.

Besides discovering saucy WhatsApp messages, in which the two were sharing, there were also hordes of photos in the phone of the two “gridded” in cosy mood.

Some of the leaked chats clearly revealed that the pair were having amorous feelings for each other with the boyfriend passionately begging for sex while also seducing Miriam with some hot, playful and steamy text messages.

The chats also exposed the two lovebirds planning for a place where they were going to meet for sex trysts.

“Ende mudiwa tichamboramba tichis….** pa WhatsApp kusvika wazonyatsakugutsikana kuti wakuda kundipa be* rako uye togadzira nzvimbo yekus….” (dear we will continue sexting until the time you will be ready to have sex with me).

The chats also show Miriam warning her lover to be careful of her husband who seemed to have been suspicious of their shenanigans.

“Iribho shars ndine stress. I think comrade is up to something. I can’t even forward ma charts anditumira kwawuri eiiiish shaa kana azvida anogona kukusiya panguva yakawoma plizz be careful kana ukangowona phone call kana kuti mamessages from someone ini hangu handidi kukusiya panguva yakawoma sha ini ndakachata”. (I’m stressed I think the comrade is up to something else. He sent me some chats please be careful if you receive phone or text messages from someone you don’t know. I don’t want to put you into trouble as I’m a married woman).

Speaking to B-Metro, Kaseke said he discovered his wife of 15 years’ unsavoury shenanigans after he managed to get hold of her phone which she was always guarding like a monkey with nuts.

“I discovered the illicit affair after she forgot to lock her phone and when I took it that is when I discovered the chats and the pictures which the two were exchanging.

“Sensing trouble, she quickly came and grabbed the phone before I even took the phone number of her lover,” said Kaseke.

He said when he confronted her about the saucy chats and pictures his wife showed no remorse leading him to send her back to her parents in Bulawayo.

“The discovery shocked me and when I asked her why she was keeping the pictures in her phone as a married woman she was not even remorseful. Fearing that I would end up beating her up, I took her to her parents in Bulawayo who also seemed to have supported her adulterous behaviour,” said Kaseke.

Four Kariba Boat Tragedy Bodies Accounted For

Kariba Dam

By A Correspondent- Two missing bodies from the Kariba boat tragedy have finally been retrieved ending a week searching mission on Lake Kariba.

The body of a woman, Faith Dzauwa, was the first to be retrieved on Thursday. It was found floating from where the boat capsized.

The last body to be recovered was of the father of a four-year-old baby, Noah Mwinde. It was found about five kilometres away from the place where the boat capsized.

An eyewitness, Zambezi, who is part of the rescue mission said:

The body of the woman was found floating and retrieved. After that, they retrieved the body of Mwinde at around 10 pm, as it was pushed far away by the waves about five kilometres away. All the four bodies have now been accounted for.

Meanwhile, the body of Tafadzwa Mashingaidze, a Zimbabwe National Army fitness trainer who died in the tragedy, was buried at Mudzimu, Hurungwe on Thursday.

The accident occurred around 4 am last Friday when the vessel hit turbulent waters, stirred by strong winds, near Ndomo fishing camp.

Byo Residents To Police Own City

By A Correspondent- Bulawayo residents have declared that they are taking over the role of policing the city from the Zimbabwe Republic Police due to the ineptitude of law enforcement agents who in most cases complain of lack of transport to attend scenes of crimes when cases are reported.

The development therefore allows criminals to escape justice.

The residents’ remarks come in the wake of the spike in increased crimes in Bulawayo with several armed robbery, housebreaking and murder cases being reported within a very short space of time.

The residents said relying on police has of late proved fruitless and useless and they had now decided to take matters into their own hands.

“When we call the police they do not come at all or come after it’s already too late with claims of being short-staffed or having shortage of vehicles to reach crime scenes. Therefore our youngsters have been most helpful in chasing away these thieves at night and we are looking forward to having them patrol at night for our safety,” said Beatrice Mlambo

Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association (BPRA) chairperson Ambrose Sibindi said the police have failed and accepted defeat as far as crime-solving is concerned.

“It is very clear that housebreaking and armed robberies are so rampant in Bulawayo of late and what is very unfortunate is that even if these cases are reported it seems the police are totally overwhelmed by the situation. So it’s now clear that something needs to be done as a matter of urgency because the police have failed to contain the situation. I have even read in the media when the police boss said they are incapacitated, so to me he has just accepted defeat,” Sibindi said.

Sibindi said since the police are failing to control the situation because of incapacitation, the residents must take action.

“There are a lot of suggestions and one of the members of parliament suggested that because of the increase of crime rate why not bring the army to assist if it means that the police have failed. However, because of the constitution, the army cannot deal with internal affairs,” Sibindi said.

“The ball is now in our hands as residents to come up with watch guard groups that will have timetables in which each group will patrol the whole night because surely we can’t rely on the police alone. We have to act because we can’t have a country where people are being butchered day in and day out. That’s unacceptable.”

Sibindi said they hope the police will put their act together and the government must address the issue of shortage of police vehicles in Bulawayo with urgency.

Police Officer commanding Bulawayo province Commissioner Patton Mbangwa recently admitted incapacitation of the police in terms of vehicles and also blamed security companies for using fake guns and unarmored vehicles which make them fail to deal with armed robbers.

His remarks came in the wake of a robbery that occurred recently at the Parklands Choppies shop that ended in the theft of seven trunks of money involving Robicon security company.

ZRP Fires Warning Shots At Kombi Operators Blocking Zupco Buses

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says it has enough manpower to deal with illegal transporters who are blocking Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) buses from transporting passengers to and from town and will not hesitate to arrest them.

This comes after traffic movement was affected along Luveve road on Thursday night and Friday morning as illegal kombi drivers and Honda Fit drivers blocked ZUPCO buses and kombis.

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said police have the situation under control. He said:

Some rowdy Kombi operators blocked Luveve road and Pumula road and in the morning, they also blocked roads in Cowdry Park. Our teams went there and cleared them.

We want to warn them and any like-minded people that we have enough manpower to handle the situation. It is in their best interest to comply with the law. We are not going to live anything to chance.

“Emmerson Mnangagwa Unelectable”

Tinashe Sambiri|Prominent social media user Mbuya Gudo from Dotito has declared that the Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa is unelectable.

This comes at a time Zanu PF has announced it wants to raise USD $ 140 million to bolster Mr Mnangagwa’s 2023 Presidential Election campaign.

According to Mbuya Gudo, even if Michael Jackson is to rise from the dead, Mr Mnangagwa will never win the 2023 Presidential Election.

#BREAKING- SHONA FERGUSON DIES

By A Correspondent- Connie Ferguson’s husband, Shona, has died.

Shona passed away at the Milpark private hospital in Johannesburg on Friday afternoon.

The media mogul was admitted there last week after suffering from chest pains.

It was later discovered that he had heart problems and he underwent a major heart operation.

A source to the family confirmed the matter.

“I can confirm that he just died. Connie is busy with the funeral arrangements,” said the source.

Attempts to solicit comments from Connie drew a blank as her phone, understandably, just rang unanswered.

Earlier this week, Sunday World reported that Shona was on a ventilator in ICU and his condition had recently worsened.

Mambo Chipuriro Sets The Record Straight On Mavhuradonha

Mambo Chipuriro

By Mazvita Makuyana- Mr Clever Masviki, popularly known as Mambo Chipuriro said he welcomes development in his area including the controversial Mavhuradonha area without any discrimination as long it benefits the locals.

The Mavhuradonha Wilderness is situated in the north-east of Zimbabwe, about 180km from Harare.

The name ‘Mavhuradonha’ roughly translates from Shona language as ‘dripping water’, which describes the delicate rain that sometimes descends on the slopes of the nearby mountains.

In an interview, Mambo Chipuriro said in line with the devolution agenda by the Second Republic, he is ready to open up to investors who are there to develop the community as well as create jobs for his people.

This follows media reports allegedly saying villagers around Mavhuradonha had indicated that they wanted investors as far away as possible from their cultural site as it was destroying the environment and disregarding their views through the construction of roads across their fields.

The matter received attention in the local and international media.

However, Mambo Chipuriro said he was also allowed to have a say in what goes on in his ancestral land.

“We allowed mining activities in consultation with Ministry of Mines, National Monuments, Environmental Management Agency EMA and other government agencies,” he said.

“The area belongs to us not Chief Chiweshe and we are the ones that conduct rituals there. We welcome any investor irrespective of race or color as part of developmental agenda. Mining, tourism and other economic activities can coexist.

“My boundary stretches to Musengezi, Mukwadzi and Hunyani rivers. I am in charge of this area including as far as Kanyemba now known as Mbire. It is the land of my ancestors, of the Soko totem,” he said.

Mambo Chipuriro was responding to the allegations that a Chinese firm dug dangerously deep pits and constructed roads exploring for chrome in Mavhuradonha Wilderness.

Afrochine, the country’s biggest ferrochrome producer, says although it holds claims to the mining areas, it is yet to commence operations there and has complained that illegal activities currently taking place there are prejudicing the company.

Body Mix Up At Funeral Parlour

By A Correspondent- A family in Emakhandeni, Bulawayo, was forced to exhume the purported body of a family member following a mix-up involving the dead body of a suspected COVID-19 patient.

The mix-up was done at Exodus Funeral Parlour in the city.

Ntombiyolwandle Magagula, nee Phiri (74), died on Sunday night after a long illness and burial was expected at Luveve Cemetery.

The other body involved in the mix-up was that of Annah Ndlovu (77) who is said to have succumbed to COVID-19.

The matter came to light when the Magagula family went to claim their body for burial only to discover it had been collected by the Ndlovus and buried at Athlone Cemetery on Tuesday.

Magagula’s body was exhumed on Wednesday.

Speaking to CITE, Magagula family representative Christopher Dube said the family had a funeral policy with Kingdom Blue Funeral Services.

But when they went to Luveve Police Station to notify the police of Magagula’s death, the police reportedly contacted Exodus to collect the body.

Said Dube:

We have a policy with Kingdom Blue, when Ntombiyolwandle (Magagula) died her children went to Luveve police station to report, the police said they did not have contacts for Kingdom Blue Funeral Parlour and they contacted Exodus to collect the body.

Janet Magagula said when they went to collect the deceased’s remains the following day at Exodus, they were charged US$280.

Magagula added that they could not lay the blame on Kingdom Blue as they were not involved in handling the bodies.

The exhumation process took place at Athlone cemetery after all other funeral services which were scheduled for the day at the graveyard were over.

After the exhumation process, the body was taken back to Kingdom Blue where the family positively identified Magagula.

Meanwhile, the Ndlovu family representative Sibongile Ndlovu said their relative had died of COVID-19 and due to regulations, could not conduct body viewing.

Kingdom Blue marketing manager, Andrea Shumba apologised for the body mix-up.

“Covid-19 Testing Centres Demand Forex Payments”

By Jacob Mutisi- It is12 midnight and I have all the effects of COVID-19. Zimbabwe is battling with the COVID-19 pandemic, one of my employees tested positive for the coronavirus (doc attached).

The fact that we were in contact on a regular basis,  I made a decision to get tested and went to MARS. Ignorantly, I joined the queue and when I got to the payment area,I was advised that all payments should be in USD, that did not bother me. I said to them that we can swipe using the black market and they said I can buy the USD on the black market.

I further said to them all I want is to be tested to save my life and they advised me that they wanted USD not swipe.  I then suggested that they can give you USD1 to ZWL200 since I had the symptoms of the COVID effect. Mars was not bothered at all,  they wanted only USD. I pleaded with the gentleman advising him all I wanted was to save my life and he could not be bothered.

Please can you advise me if it is:

Government policy that COVID testing should be in USD in a country where there is a shortage of USD.

Is it allowed for testing centres to turn away a potential COVID spreader without testing the individual.

It should be mandatory that no one should be turned away from testing centres if they advise and prove that they have been in contact with someone who has tested positive and can prove it.

It should be mandatory that all testing centres should take local currency in any form and should be arrested for demanding foreign currency of any form which is not a legal tender according to the laws of the land.

I am extremely disappointed of the kind of service I got and hope this will be the first and the last.

Please can Mars advise me why they could accept my payment and any of those who came before me and after me in these times of the COVID pandemic.

I have copied the governor of RBZ, the Minister of Finance, the Ministry of health and MDCPZ to immediately address this pathetic and unacceptable kind of behaviors. I pay and hope that I live to get the answer from MARS.

If you need me to elaborate or explain further please do not hesitate to contact me on 0772278161 or on [email protected].

Robbers Pounce On Forex Dealer, Get Away With $4k

By A Correspondent- Four unidentified robbers recently pounced on a forex dealer in Rujeko suburb in Masvingo and went away with over US$4 000 after threatening him with gunshots before assaulting him.

Emmanuel Chidyausavi (29) of Rujeko C lost US$4 260 to robbers who fired gunshots inside his house and later assaulted him with an iron bar, leaving him with injuries on his left leg.

Masvingo Provincial Police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident and said police investigations are underway.

“We received the case in which Chidyausavi was robbed of cash amounting to $US 4 260 at his homestead in Rujeko C and police investigations are underway,” said Dhewa.

Circumstances are that four male armed robbers forced their way into Chidyausavi’s house just after midnight while he was sleeping with his family through a screen door.

Chidyausavi allegedly heard some noise and tried to block his bedroom door with his wardrobe to stop the robbers from getting inside.

After attempting to penetrate into the bedroom in vain, the robbers then proceeded to the bedroom window and fired one gunshot, warning Chidyausavi to open the door but he did not comply.

They then returned to the bedroom door and kept pushing until they made their way inside where they took money from Chidyausavi’s wallet in wardrobe.

They then assaulted Chidyausavi on his left leg with an iron bar and fled the scene with a total amount of $US 4 260.

“We encourage members of the public to avoid keeping large amounts of money in their homes,” said Dhewa.

Masvingo is experiencing a high number of robbery cases this year and recently police recovered property worth over US$ 10 000 in Runyararo West and Victoria Ranch.-tellzim

Shock As Gokwe Man Dates Father’s Second Wife

By A Correspondent- A Gokwe man has shocked his community after he “took over” his late father’s second wife and started an intimate relationship with her. Killen Majaji and his late father’s second wife Plackie Duma have horrified their local community with their illicit love affair.

Under African tradition as well as Christianity it is taboo for a father and son to sleep with the same woman.

The pair’s illicit affair was exposed by Majaji’s wife who was not amused by her mother-in-law’s shenanigans. She is reported to have become incensed since her husband was now neglecting her preferring to be with his ‘mother.’

A source who spoke to weekly publication B-Metro said,

“Majaji’s wife, who felt that her mother-in-law had no right to sleep with her son, confronted her leading to a misunderstanding. Incensed that she had been exposed and in a bid to fix her, Duma went to the police and filed a false assault report leading to the arrest of Majaji’s wife.

“Investigations by police officers later established that Duma had lied against Majaji’s wife.“It was also after some villagers notified the police that Duma acted out of bitterness that Majaji’s wife had confronted her over the incestuous affair.

”The matter was reported at traditional leader Chief Nemangwe’s court. The two are supposed to appear at the traditional court to answer to charges of incest. “I heard about the issue and I have summoned the two-Killen Majaji and Plackie Duma to appear before my court. It is taboo for someone to sleep with his father’s wife and we do not accept that in our culture.

“The matter came to my attention after Majaji who is reportedly on the run assaulted his wife for revealing the incestuous relationship,” he said.  The matter is still pending at the courts

Man Beaten For Telling Co-tenant To Stop Proposing To His Wife

By A Correspondent- When Wilson Nyoni (35) got wind that his co-tenant, Livingston Gwandira (26), was proposing love to his wife, he asked him to stop, but Gwandira got angry and turned him into a punching bag and stabbed him.

Nyoni, who had been brushing aside rumours that Gwandira was after his wife, decided to act after his close friend confided in him that Gwandira was proposing love to his wife.

“Nyoni fumed at the news after that he waited for Gwandira who came home at around 7.30 pm. When he saw that the light in his room was on, he dashed to Gwandira’s room and asked him why he was in the habit of proposing love to his wife while there were many women out there who are not married or attached to any man,” said an insider.

The situation spiralled out of control as the two traded insults and at the height of the brawl, Gwandira unleashed a heavy blow on Nyoni.

Gwandira who was boiling with anger, rained blows on Nyoni causing him to fall to the ground.

He continued pummelling him with fists and kicked him all over the body.

When their landlord tried to restrain him, the muscular Gwandira violently pushed him away.

A neighbour, who heard the commotion, rushed to the scene and restrained Gwandira from further assaulting Nyoni who was bleeding while trying to evade fists which were coming hard and fast.

Gwandira then stabbed Nyoni with a knife on the head.

Neighbours restrained him and took him to a police station, leading to his arrest.

Nyoni was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital where he is being treated.

Nyoni said: “I heard on several occasions that Gwandira was proposing love to my wife but I ignored that. I had to confront him after a friend confided in me that Gwandira was proposing love to my wife. When I tried to engage him he got angry and hit me. He also stabbed me with a knife.”

Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the stabbing incident: “I can confirm that we arrested a man who stabbed his co- tenant after he asked why he was proposing love to his wife.”

Asst Insp Msebele advised members of the public to seek advice from third parties such as pastors, ZRP’S Victim Friendly Unit (VFU) or elders in the community than to take the law into their hands.

Chipinge Villagers Sleep In The Open After Green Fuel Displacement

By A Correspondent- Villagers from Magokova in Chipinge who were evicted from their “ancestral land” are reportedly sleeping in the open since their displacement by Green Fuel.

Nine families have to endure the harsh winter as they have nowhere to go since they were evicted from their custodial land by force.

Headman Phineas Chinyamukwakwa confirmed the development to TellZim News, saying 34 people were left without shelter and have no other option.

Said Chief Chinyamukwakwa:

I can confirm that 34 villagers are sleeping outside in the open spaces as they lost their houses during the eviction.

These nine families have nowhere to go because this is the only place they have known since they were born.

Director of Platform for Youth and Community Development (PYCD), Claris Madhuku said they were deeply shocked that the government is not acting to resolve the disaster facing locals.

Madhuku said:

The initiative to challenge these evictions by Green Fuel has been taken and the matter is now before courts.

The community in Chinyamukwakwa and Magokova are defiant and ready for all the unfolding events, knowing fully well that the battle shall be won by the people.

Madhuku also said food and a temporary shelter was being organised for the victims and they are also helping the affected people by interpreting their constitutional rights.

Some of the villagers are reported to have fled to Mozambique after losing their land to business mogul Billy Rautenbach who owns Green Fuel.

Green Fuel security guards destroyed crops of over 1 000 villagers demanding that they vacate the land.

Media Lobby Groups Expresses Concern Over Cyber Security And Data Protection Bill

By A Correspondent- Media lobby groups have expressed concern over the potential abuse of the Cyber Security and Data Protection Bill by the government to stifle people’s right to information.

The Bill was passed by the Senate without debate on Wednesday and now awaits President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s assent to become law.

Media Institute of Southern Africa (Misa) Zimbabwe director Tabani Moyo said his organisation made several recommendations to unbundle the Bill which were ignored.

He said:

We are concerned as Misa Zimbabwe with the pro-security approach towards Cyber Security Bill and in our submissions, which tally with the contributions from the public consultative meetings, there were issues, specific recommendations, that they need to unbundle that Bill so that it does not lump complex issues together. They are lumping electronic transactions, cybersecurity and data protection.

Secondly, we were concerned about the issue of creating a monster institution, where Potraz [Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe] became the horse of Potraz itself, data security centre, authority, there is a cybersecurity crime centre and so forth.

This compromises the security of data and creates massive surveillance in society. The issue of remote logging keys, the issue of our failure to feel the whistleblowing protection, among other things.

Those issues, we were still pushing them back and advising the Lower House to attend to those issues that have been raised by the public as reflected in the portfolio commit report on what the public had recommended.

The public had recommended exactly what I said, unbundle them, and do not merge these institutions, the cybersecurity centre, data authority and Potraz. Keep them separate so that you don’t make people’s data vulnerable.

Of course, the cybersecurity centre is a military arm and you cannot lump it together with Potraz because it has access to the back end of mobile network operators which have conventional data for everyone in the country.

Moyo said he hopes that the Bill that has been passed reacts to the need to have a pro-human rights approach toward the regulation of cyberspace.

Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe executive director Loughty Dube had this to say:

The law is more dangerous to journalism where sources, often protected by the law, will no longer be able to give information knowing they are being snooped at.

Once signed into law, it will regulate the use of the internet and social media activities to curb computer crimes such as the spreading of pornographic content, and other internet-related fraudulent activities.

It will prescribe a 10-year sentence for hate speech at a time when some Zimbabweans have, in the past, been arraigned before the courts for denigrating the President.

Rusape Family Confesses To Murder 7yrs On

A Rusape family has confessed to murder, 7 years after the deed after being tormented by the vengeful spirit of their victim, ngozi in local parlance.

The Maziofa family of Masvosva Village under Chief Chiduku have been plagued by a series of misfortunes since 2014. This has forced the family to finally confess to the murder of Bernard Chigwese.

The family is attributing the misfortunes to Chigwese’s avenging spirit. The situation is so bad that the Maziofa family approached the traditional leader, Headman Lazarus Mudyarabikwa and confessed to the murder.  ]

The Manica Post reports that the late Chigwese was a school teacher. Edward Maziofa and Patrick Mupfekeri allegedly abducted and murdered him following a botched cattle selling deal. Mupfekeri is now late. The teacher was allegedly abducted in broad daylight and in front of witnesses. Maziofa and Mupfekeri allegedly killed Chigwese in the bush and performed some rituals on his body.

When Chigwese’s body was discovered the police arrested Maziofa and Mupfekeri. However, the case did not go anywhere as the two are reported to have only appeared in court twice.

Maziofa’s relatives are alleged to have actively shielded him from justice.  Tobias Maziofa, a representative from the Maziofa family told Headman Mudyarabikwa that since the murder, the family has suffered calamity after calamity.

Tobias told the traditional leader:

“We are here before this court to represent the Maziofa family. We have been sent to openly admit that it was our relative, Edward Maziofa, together with Patrick Mupfekeri, who killed Bernard Chigwese in 2014.

“They were arrested but we ensured that the case died a natural death. However, Chigwese’s spirit is now haunting our family, we no longer know any peace. The family is now experiencing misfortunes all the time, while some are developing mental illnesses.

“Last month, one boy started hallucinating, shouting ‘makandiurayirei (why did you kill me)’ before bolting out of the house. We later found him hanging.“We have suffered enough and have decided to come out in the open and appeal for assistance from this court to facilitate dialogue with the Chigweses. We are prepared to pay for our sins.”

Headman Mudyarabikwa declined to handle the case. Instead, he referred it to Chief Chiduku’s court due to the seriousness of the allegations. He also ordered the alleged murderer, Edward Maziofa, to present himself at the Chief’s court.

What Next As Zanu Pf Bans Defiant NGOs?

By A Correspondent- Harare provincial development co-ordinator (PDC) Tafadzwa Muguti has banned all non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and private voluntary organisations (PVOs) which defied a directive to report to him.

Muguti yesterday said government would unleash law enforcement officers on NGOs, PVOs and civic society organisations (CSOs) that continued operating despite the ban. Only 40 NGOs will remain operating in Harare following Muguti’s action.

Yesterday, Muguti published the names of the organisations that submitted their credentials to his office, giving them the greenlight to continue operating, but under his office’s regulation.

The organisations include ActionAid Zimbabwe, Plan International, Caritas Zimbabwe, Goal Zimbabwe, Youth Advocates and Helpline Zimbabwe among others. Several human rights organisations are not part of the list.

Muguti last month wrote to all NGOS, PVOs and CSOs ordering them to report to his office, a move viewed by NGOs as intended to clamp down on them.

In the letter, he ordered the NGOs to submit monthly work plans of their intended activities and summoned directors of the NGOs to his office.

Two weeks after Muguti’s order, his counterpart in Masvingo, Jefta Sakupwanya also summoned NGOs operating in the province and ordered them to report to him.

But NGO representatives yesterday insisted that they will not comply with Muguti’s directive, claiming that his office was established outside the dictates of the Constitution.

The Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum, Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition, ZimRights and youth organisations among others, told Muguti that they would not report to him because his directive was ultra vires the Constitution.

“The enlisted NGOs have been permitted to conduct their operations within Harare Metropolitan province subject to complying with the outline procedures,” Muguti said in a statement.

“Those that failed to comply with the request on June 30, 2021, shall with immediate effect be stopped by law enforcement from conducting any operations whatsoever until they fully comply with the policy, in particular obtaining a resolution from the provincial development committee and recognition by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution.”

A coalition of 10 youth CSOs recently wrote to Local Government minister July Moyo imploring him to rein in his subordinates, vowing that it would not take orders from Muguti.

On several occasions, the Zanu-PF regime has threatened to deregister NGOs accusing them of operating outside their mandates and/or propping up the opposition.

Zanu-PF acting commissar Patrick Chinamasa last month accused CSOs of being sponsored by hostile Western powers to cause regime change in the country.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa, while giving a state of the nation address last year, said government would craft laws to regulate NGOs. He also accused them of straying from their core business for which they were registered.-newsday

Man Devastated After Discovering Sleazy Whatsapp Messages In Wife’s Phone

By A Correspondent- Infidelity is heart-wrenching and being cheated on by someone you love can be devastating.

For a Gwanda man it apparently hit him like a punch to the gut when he stumbled upon sleazy WhatsApp messages in his wife’s phone in which she was arranging se_x romps with her alleged lover.

Some of the leaked chats clearly revealed that the pair were having amorous feelings for each other with the boyfriend passionately begging for se_x while also seducing Miriam with some hot, playful and steamy text messages.

The chats also exposed the two lovebirds planning for a place where they were going to meet for se_x trysts.

“Ende mudiwa tichamboramba tichis….** pa WhatsApp kusvika wazonyatsakugutsikana kuti wakuda kundipa be*** rako uye togadzira nzvimbo yekus….**” (dear we will continue se_xting until the time you will be ready to have se_x with me).

Fearing that I would end up beating her up, I took her to her parents in Bulawayo who also seemed to have supported her adulter0us behaviour,” said Kaseke.

Spirited efforts to get comment from Miriam through her mobile phone were fruitless

Headmistress Shares Own Picture Of Shaved Privates On Whatsapp

By A Correspondent- She is tasked with dealing with children and keeping them in line and she is damn good at it.

But her tidiness does not extend to her smartphone as her people got more than they asked for, when the headmistress at Kumalo Primary School, Stella Mhlanga, accidentally shared a picture of her shaved privates on her WhatsApp status.

Mhlanga quickly deleted the picture, but not before it was picked up by some of her contacts and reshared.

She apologised for turning her WhatsApp into a mini p0rn site.

“Good evening, sorry for what was posted on the status, someone had borrowed my phone. My sincere apologies people. It’s not my character and I don’t post such in my status. Please delete,” reads the impassioned apology.

The apology did not stop social media police, who had already downloaded it using WhatsApp GB and taken screen shots, from circulating it widely on social media.

“It was an embarrassing and emotionally charged experience for her. It has really depressed her and I pity her,” said a source from the school who declined to be named.

B-Metro could not get a comment from Mhlanga as her mobile phone was not reachable.-BMetro

Fire Destroys City Supermarlet, Destroys Property Worth ZW$500k

By A Correspondent- Fire gutted a supermarket in the city on Tuesday, destroying property worth ZW $500 000.

The fire at Ashy’s supermarket which is located along Lobengula street started just after 6PM on Wednesday.

Bulawayo City Council’s Chief Fire Officer Linos Phiri said they were called to attend to the building that is used as a supermarket and a fast-food outlet.

The fire brigade managed to put out the fire before it could spread and the supermarket was open yesterday at the section that was not affected.

Mr Phiri said the cause of the fire was a result of a chip frier which was left on unattended. The premises were locked and all workers had knocked off when the fire started.

Vendors who saw the building on fire quickly alerted the fire brigade.

“The fire started in the chip fryer and was contained there without spreading to other parts of the building,” said Mr. Phiri.

The chip fryer was well alight with flames gaining momentum and highly visible from outside.

Mr Phiri said the fire brigade used bolt cutters to cut a burglar bar on the window and broke the glass to gain access. “The fire outbreak that consumed property in the Supermarket destroyed an estimated property of ZW$510 000,” said Mr Phiri.

He urged members of the public to switch off electrical gadgets when they are not on their premises or at home.

“People must ensure electrical gadgets are switched off if no one is guarding them at the time also once.

Maxwell Vengai of Dambo Village under Chief Budzi died after he was stabbed with a knife by his friend Wilson Mudurirwa (32) who had sent him to buy Chibuku Super at Chikuku business centre in Bikita.

ZimRights Demands Information On Beneficiaries Of Tax Holidays

By A Correspondent| On 27 July 2021 the Zimbabwe Human Rights Association, (ZimRights) filed a Request for Information on “Tax Holidays” with ZIMRA and the Ministry of Finance.

In terms of section 7 of the Freedom of Information Act, [Chapter 10:33] any citizen can request the disclosure of government policy and other information in the public interest. The law requires that every public entity, public commercial entity or holder of a statutory office SHALL have a written information disclosure policy through which it discloses information in the interests of public accountability or that is required for the exercise or protection of a right.

ZimRights is convinced that both or one of them ZIMRA or/and the Ministry of finance are the custodians of information relating to the granting of tax holidays to certain corporates. It is in this light that ZimRights has written to these public entities requesting the following information;

1. A written information disclosure policy in terms of section 5 of the Freedom of Information Act if any; and

2. Particulars of the tax exemption policy in force especially;

2.1 Type, and business sector of persons, including corporate persons exempt from liability for corporate or other income tax in Zimbabwe in the example format:

2.2 The criteria in use to assess eligibility for granting of tax exemption to corporate entities for the period 2019 to date.

2.3 If there is a register of tax-exempt corporate entities or individuals (resident shareholder`s tax payable on dividends);

2.3.1 If yes, to kindly avail an updated copy of the register of exempt persons.

ZimRights believes this information is important for the pursuit of transparency and accountability as envisioned by the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

On 1 July 2021, a US Based group, the Sentry published a report “Shadows and Shell Games: Uncovering an Offshore Business Empire” which exposed potentially corrupt practices by government officials. A follow up family dialogue was convened by ZimRights, ZIMCODD and the Constitutional Law Centre (CLC) in which citizens and experts recommended pursuit of accountability.

Section 194 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe obliges the government to foster transparency by providing the public with timely, accessible, and accurate information. The government and all its agencies are duty bound to keep the public informed

Zim Woman Donates Own Body To UZ School Of Medicine

Rosalie Majecha Chigariro

By A Correspondent- A Zimbabwean woman who died in South Africa on Sunday has donated her body to the University of Zimbabwe School of Medicine to be used in advancing the study of medicine.

The woman, Rosalie Majecha Chigariro (64), died after she went into a diabetic coma.

The donation is one of the few made by Zimbabweans in the cause of the advancement of science.

In one of the audios in Masvingo Mirror’s possession, Chigariro is heard instructing that after body viewing, her body be sent to the University.

She adds that after the studies, the body can then be cremated.

The publication says it has also seen a letter dated 26 July 2021 from the University’s Department of Biomedical sciences requesting Nyaradzo Funeral Services to surrender the body to the school.

Professor Rangarirai Masanganise who is the Dean of UZ College of Health Sciences said that the University receives bodies from time to time for use in the studies.

“Vaccinate Teachers Against Poverty”: Mudzuri Tells ED

By A Correspondent|Former Movement for Democratic Change Change MP for Zaka Central Constituency, Harrison Mudzuri has accused the Zanu PF regime of neglecting teachers.

Mudzuri is the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe national coordinator.

According to Mudzuri, teachers should also be ” vaccinated against poverty.”

“The fact that teachers are not happy with their meagre salaries means that opening or not opening of schools is one and the same thing-no meaningful teaching and learning will take place.

Forcing teachers to be vaccinated against Covid 19 is not a sign of care by the govt of Zimbabwe.

The same teachers still need living salaries that vaccinate them against poverty. Improved living conditions means good food which boosts immunity against all kinds of diseases.

If teachers in Zimbabwe do not fight for salaries they deserve they are encouraging poverty through their silence,” argued Mudzuri.

Briefing journalists at Defence Headquarters in Harare on Thursday morning, Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri said the contingent will consist of 303 instructors and one specialist officer to the coordinating mechanism of the SADC Force Headquarters in Maputo.

Man Bashes, Stabs Co-tenant For Accusing Him Of Dating Wife

CHEATING is dangerous!

When Wilson Nyoni (35) got wind that his co-tenant, Livingston Gwandira (26), was proposing love to his wife, he asked him to stop, but Gwandira got angry and turned him into a punching bag and stabbed him.

Asst Insp Msebele advised members of the public to seek advice from third parties such as pastors, ZRP’S Victim Friendly Unit (VFU) or elders in the community than to take the law into their hands.- B-Metro

TOUCHING PICTURES: Top Coach Kwashi In His Hey Days.

By Japhet Short Cat Mparutsa | Sad to hear about the death of Legendary player and coach Steve “Bla Steve” Kwashi. He was also known as “The Cool Dude”

Many of us might not know that I played with Steve Kwashi at Dynamos, he was my number 7 after Shaya retired. He used to call me “Tafi…” and I wondered what that meant.

Years later, I went to his shop In Sport and again he called me “Tafi..” I decided to ask him what the nickname meant.

“You are tough, so I call you Tafi..!” That was Bla Steve for you, always humorous. He was a a good man and easy to relate with.

He played for Chibuku, Black Aces, Zimbabwe Saint’s ( he lived in Harare then Salisbury and travelled to Bulawayo for matches). This shows what a special player he was.

It is such a shame that the horrific accident took away a large part of his football life. Without the accident, he would have become one of the best coaches that Zimbabwe ever produced.

We thank the family for standing with him and looking after him to the best of their abilities. Could we as a Football family have done more to help? I think so but as is usually the case in all football matters.. It is out of sight, out of mind.

We should do better as a football community, stick together in dark times. We should not forget our heroes.

Go well Bla Steve, you fought a good fight. Your football story will live on.

All of us here.. Be Blessed.

Mthuli Ncube Midterm Budget Review Statement

Agriculture
Growth of the agriculture sector in 2021 has been revised upwards on account of higher-than-expected performance of almost all crops particularly maize, groundnuts, and sorghum. The sector is, therefore, estimated to grow by 34%, up from the original Budget projection of 11%. The positive performance is on account of a good 2020/21 rainfall season, supported by adequate planning and preparation. The Meteorology Department records indicate that the country largely received normal to above normal rainfall during the past season, with even distribution in space and time. Crop and Livestock Assessment Report indicates an overall 23% increase in area planted for crops to 3.5 million ha in the 2020/2021 season.

Maize
Maize output for the 2020/21 cropping season is estimated at a record 2.7 million tonnes, about 193.1% up from 0.9 million tonnes produced in the 2019/20 season.

The maize output will be complemented by increases in the output of other grains, which include sorghum, pear millet and finger millet. This level of output surpasses the national cereal requirement of an estimated 1.8 million tonnes and 450 000 tonnes for human and livestock consumption, respectively. Government has designated the GMB as the sole buyer of grain. Out of the grain stock produced, it is anticipated that 1.9 million tons of grain, valued at ZWL$67.7 billion, will be delivered to GMB by farmers country wide.

Government has put in place mechanisms for paying for the deliveries, mainly from proceeds from sale of grain, AMA Bills Facility and fiscal revenues. As at 26 July 2021, grain deliveries by farmers to GMB depots stood at 637 000 tons valued at ZWL$20.9 billion, of which 567 000 tons was for maize, 58 000 tons traditional grains, 11 000 tons soya beans and 661 tons wheat. Payments against these grain receipts stood at ZWL$13.3 billion, leaving a balance of ZWL$7.6 billion which is currently being processed.

Tobacco
The area under tobacco increased by 6.1% from 117 976 hectares cultivated in the 2019/20 season to 125 176 hectares in the 2020/21 season with 84 000 hectares under irrigation, while the rest was under dry land. The bulk of the crop was in the traditional tobacco growing areas of Mashonaland and Manicaland Provinces. From the increased hectarage, tobacco output is projected to increase by 8% to 195 million kilograms in 2021 compared to 184 million kilograms recorded in the 2019/20 season. The anticipated improvement is partly attributed to the good rains received during the season and increased financing by contractors who provided sufficient inputs during the season.

Cotton
Benefitting from timeous distribution of inputs and better rainfall, area planted for cotton increased by 37.5% to 239 619 hectares in the 2020/21 season, from 174 212 hectares, as farmers responded well to the Government incentive aimed at resuscitating the cotton to clothing value chain.

Resultantly, initial estimates put cotton output to at least 140 000 tonnes during the 2020/21 season, a 39% increase from 101 000 tonnes produced in the 2019/20 season. The crop output benefited from continued support from the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe (COTTCO) administered Presidential Cotton Free Inputs Scheme, complemented by private players who also supported cotton farmers through contract farming.

Sugarcane
The above-normal rainfall season has significantly enhanced water security for the sugar cane industry. Tugwi-Mukosi Dam spilled for the first time since its commissioning in May 2017, while Lake Mutirikwi reached over 60% of its capacity. This water resource is adequate to cater for 75% of the sugar industry’s irrigated cane area for at least three seasons. Sugarcane production is, therefore, projected at 4.35 million tonnes, which is 1.8% increase from 4.27 million obtained in the 2019/2020 season.

Sugar production for the year is projected to increase on the back of expected improvements in yields, cane quality and milling efficiencies.
Wheat
In 2021, winter wheat output is projected at 280 000 tonnes, 32% up from the 212 000 tonnes produced in 2020 on account of the 66 000 hectares of winter wheat planted during the winter season. Wheat yield is also expected to be enhanced from timeous provision of inputs. Projected higher output is on account of:

Adequate water availability, with average dam levels reported at 95.9% of capacity by May 2021; Availability of chemicals and fertiliser on the market; and Expected stability of electricity supply.
Mining
Government recognises the importance of capacitating the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development in order for the country to derive value from its minerals.

Therefore, the 2021 National Budget allocated ZWL$1.4 billion towards the operations of the Ministry. A total of ZWL$561 million (40%) has so far been disbursed, with the following selected milestones having been achieved.
Harare-Masvingo-Beitbridge Road
To date, a total of 180.45 km have been completed and opened to traffic.

This is, however, below the targeted 200kms anticipated to have been completed by December 2020. Work stoppages arising from COVID-19 imposed lockdowns as well as disruptions caused by the heavy rains affected project implementation. The target to deliver 200kms during 2021 remains on course with funding modalities having been put in place to ensure smooth implementation of the project.

Gross Domestic Product (GDP)
GDP growth for the year 2021 is projected to remain strong at 7.8%, slightly above the 2021 National Budget growth target of 7.4%. The strong rebound of the economy is anchored on better 2020/21 rainfall season, higher international mineral commodity prices, stable macroeconomic environment and managed COVID-19 pandemic. 28. Higher growth rates are projected in agriculture, electricity generation, manufacturing as well as financial services.

CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT BUDGET
Capital spending as at 30 June 2021 amounted to ZWL$67.4 billion, against a target of ZWL$58 billion.
Major expenditures were incurred towards:
Infrastructure development projects, ZWL$21.2 billion;
Equity and investment shares, ZWL$21.6 billion; and
Grain procurement ZWL$13.5 billion.

Debt Servicing
Government has been making debt service payments on active portfolios so as to unlock new financing and trigger disbursements to ongoing projects. During the first quarter of 2021, debt service payments amounting to US$17.04 million were made towards token payments (US$1.6 million), other multilateral creditors (US$ 4.11 million) and bilateral Non-Paris Club (US$11.33 million).

From January to June: Revenue – ZWL$198.2 billion, attributed to taxes and non-tax revenue. Expenditure – ZWL$197 billion Surplus – ZWL$570 million
As at 26/7/21, Grain deliveries to the GMB stood at 636 000 tonnes, valued at $20.9 billion
Capital spending amounted to $67 billion against a budgeted $58 billion.

Cumulative revenue collection 198.2 Zim dollars against a target of 182.1 million, giving a positive variance of 8.8 percent.
Spending within budget has improved public finances.

Food imports will be lower following an excellent 2020 agricultural season.
Current account balance for 2021 is projected to remain in a surplus position of 611.6 million compared to 1.1 billion recorded in 2020.

The banking sector is safe and sound, even under the impact of the covid-19 pandemic.
Inflation projected to drop to between 22 and 35% by December 2021
GDP growth projected at 7% for 2022

Man Beds Own Father’s Small House

NATIONAL, BUSINESS, BREAKING

IN African traditional culture, it is taboo for a father and son to “dip” in the same well or sleep with the same woman.
A man from Gokwe seems to have committed abomination of the highest order when he “inherited” his late father’s second wife and started sleeping with her.

Killen Majaji from Majaji Village and his late father’s second wife Plackie Duma left their family and fellow villagers dumbfounded when they stole each other’s hearts and fell head-first in love.

The shocking relationship was exposed by Majaji’s unidentified wife who was angry that her husband was sexually starving her as he was now spending several nights at Duma’s house.

B-Metro gathered that the woman, who revealed the incestuous relationship, was Majaji’s second wife after the first one deserted him over the same issue.

“Investigations by police officers later established that Duma had lied against Majaji’s wife.

“It was also after some villagers notified the police that Duma acted out of bitterness that Majaji’s wife had confronted her over the incestuous affair,” said a source who declined to be named.

The source said the two’s unacceptable relationship was brought to Chief Nemangwe’s attention. The chief confirmed the incident, saying he had since summoned the two to appear before his traditional court to answer to incest charges.

“I heard about the issue and I have summoned the two-Killen Majaji and Plackie Duma to appear before my court. It is taboo for someone to sleep with his father’s wife and we do not accept that in our culture.

The matter came to my attention after Majaji who is reportedly on the run assaulted his wife for revealing the incestuous relationship,” he said.

Meanwhile, in 2015 another Gokwe man who is also a businessman was caught red-handed having sex with his 77-year-old mother. Goliath Mapolisa of Mantiya Village, under Chief Njelele in Gokwe, was found by village head Mantiya sleeping with his mother, Mrs Ester Mapolisa.

People suspected that he could have been doing that for ritual purposes to enhance his business. -B Metro

Muguti Bans NGOs That Refuse To Report To Him

Harare provincial development co-ordinator (PDC) Tafadzwa Muguti has banned all non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and private voluntary organisations (PVOs) which defied a directive to report to him.

On several occasions, the Zanu PF regime has threatened to deregister NGOs accusing them of operating outside their mandates and/or propping up the opposition.

Zanu PF acting commissar Patrick Chinamasa last month accused CSOs of being sponsored by hostile Western powers to cause regime change in the country.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa, while giving a state of the nation address last year, said government would craft laws to regulate NGOs. He also accused them of straying from their core business for which they were registered. …

Mthuli Says Economy To Grow By 7,8 Percent Measured In RTGS | GREAT or UTTER NONSENSE?

Zimbabwe’s economy is doing well with growth prospects strong and on track, despite the stalking shadow of Covid-19, leading Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube yesterday upgrading the projected growth this year from the initial 7,4 percent to 7,8 percent.

This strong economic growth trajectory this year is anticipated to spill over into the forthcoming year, with Minister Ncube projecting another 5,4 percent growth.

This year’s growth includes a recovery component while next year’s comes on top of a high-growth year.

Zimbabwe’s economy is also expected to outperform its regional peers, with the sub-Saharan Africa forecast to grow by a modest 3,4 percent this year, a slight upward review from the initial projection of 3,1 percent.

Presenting the Midyear Budget Review to Parliament, Minister Ncube said the economy would grow faster this year driven by strong agricultural output, a global commodity price boom, stable economic conditions and the Government-spearheaded Covid-19 response.

The actual budget of Government spending saw a projected deficit of $7,7 billion in the first six months of this year turn into a budget surplus of $507 million thanks to extra revenue of just over $16 billion, part of which was used to hire more nurses and teachers.

He saw no need for changes in policy, so there were no new taxes or tax concessions but just a commitment to carry on.

The Finance Minister projected strong growth in agriculture, electricity generation, accommodation and food sectors, as well as financial services.

Building on the momentum of the current year, Minister Ncube said the economy would grow by around 5,4 percent in 2022, anchored on growth in sectors such as mining, manufacturing, electricity generation, among others.

This economic growth target is consistent with the attainment of Vision 2030 of an upper middle-income status by 2030 and meeting the targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

It was critical to stay the course of obtaining growth momentum and stability, with current policies yielding desired results, hence he left any tinkering with policies to the 2022 national budget.

Minister Ncube said in light of the current strong economic growth trajectory, it was critical to focus on building resilience and recovery of the economy in the middle of the Covid-19 storm.

“Mr Speaker Sir, the domestic GDP growth for the year 2021 is projected to remain strong at 7,8 percent, slightly above the 2021 National Budget growth forecast of 7,4 percent,” Minister Ncube said.

In view of the persistent Covid-19 pandemic, which has seen an upsurge in positive cases, he said intensive vaccination remained unavoidable and the long-term solution to save lives and livelihoods, using the savings from last year to buy the vaccines.

To date, the Finance Minister said, the Government had spent US$93,2 million on vaccines alone out of the US$100 million set aside for vaccine acquisition.

But Minister Ncube reckoned, it will be critical to mobilise additional resources to take the programme further with an eye on attaining herd immunity, which will be critical precondition to relax or remove Covid-19 restrictions and fully open up the economy.

“The Covid-19 response measures, coupled with the vaccination exercise currently underway globally and domestically, continue to give hope to the sustained economic recovery,” Minister Ncube said.

Quoting author and behavioural scientist Steve Maraboli, Minister Ncube said: Life doesn’t get easier or more forgiving; we get stronger and more resilient. Therefore, let’s focus on building resilience and recovery of the economy in the middle of this Covid- 19 storm.”

Breaking down the economic performance for the past six months, Minister Ncube said fiscal and monetary consolidation had managed to push back inflation, which fell from an annual rate of 837,5 percent in July last year to an annual rate of 56,37 percent this month.

“Month-on-month inflation is expected to remain stable at less than 3 percent during the second half of 2021. Consequently, annual inflation is expected to decline further by end August 2021 and further to between 22 percent and 35 percent by December 2021,” he said.

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe continued to implement the monetary targeting framework which balances the need to sustainably anchor inflation expectations and simultaneously provide appropriate levels of liquidity in support of economic activity.

“The monetary targeting framework has helped to contain money supply growth, which in turn has stabilised the exchange rate and eased inflationary pressures in the economy,” the minister said.

The 2021 national budget had been premised on revenue projections of $390,8 billion (16,4 percent of GDP) and expenditures of $421,6 billion (18,2 percent of GDP) with a targeted budget deficit of $30,8 billion. But Zimbabwe did better.

The first half year budget execution indicated continued dividends from the fiscal consolidation measures being pursued since the Transitional Stabilisation Programme so cumulative revenue collections for January to June this year amounted to $198,2 billion against a target of $182,1 billion, resulting in an extra $16 billion or 8,8 percent.

This positive performance was attributed to both extra tax revenue of 5,3 percent and extra revenue from non-tax sources, mainly ministry service fees, which almost quintupled rising by 392 percent as cost-recovery fees were set.

Overall, expenditures during these six months was able to rise as a result and stood at $197,6 billion, implying expenditures were above the half year target of $189,8 billion by $7,8 billion.

“As a result, expenditure on Government programmes during the period under review, was 41 percent of total budget against a half year target of 45 percent,” Minister Ncube said.

The minister said major expenditures were on compensation of employees at $80 billion against a target of $73,8 billion and non-financial assets (capital budget) at $67,4 billion against a target of $58 billion.

The extra staff costs arose from the hiring of more health staff and more teachers and the January and April salary reviews.

In terms of capital programmes, the minister said, financial resources were disbursed mainly towards the completion of ongoing works, as well as sustaining works on projects at advanced stages of completion.

Devolution resources facilitated implementation of various projects across the country in areas of health, education, roads, water and sanitation.

Social benefits cost $14,5 billion against a budget of $6,1 billion and subsidies cost $2,9 billion, against the budget of $1,4 billion but these extra costs, largely due to Covid-19 and the lockdowns, were paid through reallocations.

Spending has remained within the budget that has resulted in improved public finances while managing the budget deficit, and hence, the public debt within sustainable levels.

“In the outlook to December 2021, budget expenditure target of $421,6 billion will be maintained as we try to contain expenditures, save for exigencies managed through reallocations, where necessary,” he said.

Zimbabwe’s external sector position, Minister Ncube noted, has remained strong in support of the country’s balance of payments requirements, as well as stabilising the exchange rate.

He said the current account balance for 2021 was projected to remain in surplus, that is the amount of foreign currency flowing in would exceed the amount flowing out, albeit at a moderate level of US$611,6 million, from US$1,096 billion in 2020. He was expecting a small trade deficit of around 2 percent as productive sectors imported more machinery and raw materials as they expanded, but with this easily offset by diaspora remittances more than doubling and other payments.

Minister Ncube said the banking sector remained adequately capitalised, with aggregate core capital of $64,21 billion as at March 31, 2021, an increase of 20,74 percent, from $53,18 billion from December 31, 2020.

Exports are projected to increase by 4,2 percent, from US$4 931,9 million in 2020 to US$5 139,8 million in 2021.

Mineral exports are expected to maintain strong growth driven by platinum group metals, chrome and carbon ferrochrome.

Imports are also projected to increase by 11,1 percent to reach US$5 245,7 million in 2021, from US$4 719,9 million in 2020, driven by increases in fuel, machinery and raw material imports, the Treasury chief said.

He said between January and June 2021, Zimbabwe received US$746,9 million in Diaspora remittances compared to US$288,7 million in the same period last year. The inflows are projected to close the year around US$1,3 billion. -Herald

Zanu PF is using various platforms to unleash vitriol against the MDC Alliance in a bid to reshape public opinion.

Below is the MDC Alliance response to Zanu PF politicking:

They steal and loot.

We champion wealth for all.

They go abroad for healthcare.

We seek better health for all.

They jail the young.

We let the young lead.

They blame sanctions.

We fight corruption, state capture & the politicization of state institutions.

They refuse to pay teachers.

We champion education, better pay and jobs for all.

They demolish homes and evict villagers.

We champion property rights, investment and economic stability.
They politicize food aid.
We champion skills, food and opportunity for all.

They play catch and release.

We champion accountability, transparency and justice.

A man or woman who is building a house does not move around showing the plan.

Only a mad man will take his plan to a beerhall to show off. Strategy is no longer a strategy if its public knowledge. #ManWithAPlan

Mudzuri Blasts Mnangagwa Administration

Tinashe Sambiri|Former Movement for Democratic Change Change MP for Zaka Central Constituency, Harrison Mudzuri has accused the Zanu PF regime of neglecting teachers.

Prophet Boasts Of Distributing Love Muti To Ladies

Masvingo clergyman and slayqueens godfather, Isaac Makomichi, has claimed that more than 30 000 Zimbabwean ladies have collected love charms from him.

The preacher recorded a video footage in May this year while he was in Ghana to collect the love charms.

He also claims that a lady will never enjoy love life is she is not using his “anointed love herbs.”

“Zimbabwean ladies must pray for their husbands, they must also use my anointed love potion to avoid heartbreaks.

So far I have distributed it to 30 000 ladies, nearly 96% of these received the love charms for free. The herb is not a muti.

It is the Holy Spirit who revealed the herb to me.The herb heals bitter relationships,” claimed Makomichi.

Malawi President Flies Own Family To Online Summit In UK

The British media has taken on Malawi President and exposed him as a liar, a clown and an ignorant president who can’t even answer basic questions about how to run his country.

It started with the London based *Times* in an article named “Leader flies family to online summit in UK” on Tuesday.

This British news article summarily portrays Chakwera as a clown who flies 7000 miles on a chartered plane to an expensive London Hotel where he sits on his laptop to attend a virtual meeting which he could have attended while in Malawi.

The Times of London also exposes Chakwera as an unreasonable nepotist who flies his family cronies to the summit instead of proper government officials who could handle issues at the meeting. Nonetheless, and here comes the humour, the government officials attended the meeting virtually seated in Malawi while the President flew with his family to attend the same meeting in the United Kingdom.

It is on record that Chakwera applied to travel with 61 people to attend the online conference but the British Government refused and told him to travel with 10 people only. British sources say their Government could not accept such wastage of resources for a country that they assist with aid.

The dust of *Times* had hardly settled when the BBC bludgeoned President Chakwera with questions he couldn’t answer. Chakwera miserably appeared on BBC Hardtalk program as a clown yet again, a joke with a big mouth but without a brain or substance.

The BBC exposed Chakwera as a liar who can’t honour any promise to his people and a clueless leader who cannot answer basic questions on how to run a country, or articulate progress on the electoral promises he made.

When asked how many jobs Chakwera has created, he says there is an affordable input program for farmers. The Malawi president quotes numbers of farmers who received affordable fertilizer as an answer for jobs created. Chakwera cannot even know the difference between creating jobs and giving handouts.

Ironically, the farms input program Chakwera cites as his job creation was begun by the Democratic Progressive Party where his predecessor President Peter Mutharika championed creation of skills and building community colleges to create self-employment but never cited farm inputs as job creation.

In its promotion of the Hardtalk program advanced on its website, the BBC calls Chakwera a mere “preacher turned politician” who is practicing nepotism. The advert says Chakwera is about to take on the SADC leadership when he cannot “even honour promises he made to his country.” The derogatory use of the phrase “he cannot even honour” suggests that Chakwera is failing to lead his small country in basic things and becoming a regional leader is only a nice dream.

In short, the BBC thinks Malawi has a leadership crisis. The Times of London thinks Malawi has a clown of a president. The British Government thinks Chakwera is a joke, a time waster and an extravagant globe trotter wasting billions of poor Malawians.
