Man Hangs Self On Electric Pole
An unidentified man is suspected to have committed suicide by hanging himself on a pylon in Emganwini suburb yesterday morning.
Residents told Chronicle that they only saw the body early in the morning. The matter was quickly reported to the police.
“Nkulumane police officers came to the scene at around 10.00 AM and carried the body of the deceased at around 10.30 AM,” said a resident.
Residents suspect that the accused might have hanged himself on Sunday night at the time when most people were sleeping.
A resident who declined to be named said the man might have been aged between 28 and 30 years.
“We went to see what had happened before the police arrived and from a distance, we saw that the accused was putting on a jean trouser and men’s slippers,” he said.
They said the deceased did not appear to have been carrying anything at the time of his death but there was an empty paper bag on the ground just close to his foot.
A vendor who preferred anonymity said the accused looked dirty as if he had walked a long distance.
“It might have happened that the accused walked a long way before reaching the Zesa pylon as he had dusty legs,” said the vendor.
Three years ago, an unknown man was also found hanging from a tree in Bulawayo’s Pumula East suburb amid suspicions that he could have committed suicide.- Chronicle
After Releasing Paedo Kereke, Minister Says Govt Concerned About Memory Machaya Rape
Barely a week after releasing convicted rapist Munyaradzi Kereke, government announces it is concerned about the plight of the late 14 year old Memory Machaya.

MINISTER: The ministry of Women Affairs.. is shocked and concerned about the painful death of a 14-year-old Memory Machaya during her childbirth in Bocha, Marange. This is a clear case of gender based violence… pic.twitter.com/qaIh0gjgYO
Women Affairs minister Sithembiso Nyoni yesterday said government was making strides towards ending sexual abuse of young girls and child marriages.
In a statement, Nyoni said progress has also been made to bring to book all those involved in the marrying off of a 14-year-old Marange girl, Memory Machaya, who was impregnated at a very tender age and died last month while giving birth at an Apostolic sect shrine in Manicaland province.
Nyoni’s statement follows a public outcry over the death of the pregnant minor, with civic society, women’s groups and the public calling for the arrest of the perpetrator for rape.
The Women Affairs minister described Machaya’s ordeal as rape and a situation which needed urgent action from the law enforcement agents.
She described the practice as “a bad vice which exposes the girl child and women as a whole, to social ills”.
“The case, however, serves to remind us the scourge of teenage pregnancies and early child marriages that continue to affect the lives of thousands of girls in the communities.
“Child marriage is a violation of multiple rights of the girl child that include denying her rights to education, health and well-being. It exposes the girl child to gender-based violence (GBV), HIV and other health-related conditions. It puts the young mother in a cycle of poverty,” she said.
Nyoni said marrying off young girls also denied them a chance to contribute to the development of their communities and the country at large.
She called for inclusive action against the bad practices, adding that religious institutions and cultures that permitted child marriages should know that they were outlawed by constitutional provisions which clearly stipulate the age of marriage as 18.
“I also wish to take this opportunity to encourage our communities to be vigilant and speak out on cases of GBV, and shun a culture of silence that continues to damage the very moral and social fabrics. It is this silence that will destroy our communities.
“With the current COVID-19 prevention and containment measures, we want to urge communities to be vigilant on GBV. We need to stand together and fight together and collectively declare zero tolerance to child marriages,” she said. Nyoni said a team had been dispatched from her ministry to Marange to assist the Home Affairs ministry to identify the culprits and bring them to book.
The country continues to experience GBV despite that each year around November and December, Zimbabwe commemorates 16 days of activism against GBV. A number of GBV cases have been recorded during the COVID-19 lockdown period. -Newsday/Additional Reporting

Mnangagwa Number One In Terms Of Killing Citizens
Tinashe Sambiri|MDC Alliance official, Antony Taruvinga has scoffed at Koffi Olomide and Roki’s Patati Patata song saying Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa can only be number one in persecuting hapless citizens.
The recording project was facilitated by Panganai Java.
Below is Taruvinga’s argument:
I have just deleted the part that gives false praises to ED. How on earth can a murderer and thief be number1?
Yes, number1 when it comes to abduction, murder, torture and dictatorship.
No amount of lies can make ED electable, even if Trump and Obama comes to campaign for him. Without the securocrats, he is nothing. I love my Great Zimbabwe but certainly not ED.

FIFA Launches Mental Health Awareness Programme
FIFA has launched #ReachOut, a campaign designed to raise awareness of the symptoms of mental health conditions, encourage people to seek help when they need it, and take actions every day for better mental health. With the support of past and current football players, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), FIFA is underlining the importance of greater awareness around mental health.
In launching #ReachOut, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, said: “This campaign is very important in raising awareness about mental health conditions and encouraging a conversation which could save a life. In FIFA’s Vision 2020-2023, we pledge our commitment to make football work for society, and I thank the players and Ms Enke, who have contributed to this important initiative.
“Depression and anxiety affect rising numbers of people worldwide, and young people are among the most vulnerable. Having a conversation with family, friends or a healthcare professional can be key. FIFA is proud to launch this campaign, supported by the World Health Organization and ASEAN to encourage people to #ReachOut.”
The campaign hears from FIFA Legends Aline, Vero Boquete, Cafu, Laura Georges, Luis García, Shabani Nonda, Patrizia Panico, Fara Williams and Walter Zenga. FIFA.com also speaks with former Bolton Wanderers and Team GB forward, Marvin Sordell, and Sonny Pike, who was labelled the ‘next big thing’ at 14, about their experiences with depression. Teresa Enke also discusses the pain of losing a loved one to suicide, and her work with the Robert Enke Foundation.
Depression affects more than 260 million people in the world while around half of all mental health conditions start by age 14. Suicide is the fourth leading cause of death in young people aged 15-29. Among active football players, 23 per cent report sleep disturbance, while 9% have reported depression and a further 7% suffer from anxiety. Among retired players, these figures increase, with 28% struggling to sleep and depression and anxiety affecting 13% and 11% respectively (source: FIFPRO)
Working from home, unemployment, school closures and social isolation have affected people around the world during the COVID-19 pandemic; the challenges for people with mental health conditions, for whom access to treatment has, in many cases, been disrupted, are even greater.
“As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, it is as important as ever to look after our mental and physical health,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization.
“WHO is delighted to support the #ReachOut campaign, spearheaded by FIFA to encourage people to talk about their mental health.”
The video awareness campaign features Legends, current players and special guests, who have lent their support to this mental health campaign, and at times sharing their lived experience. The campaign is being shared on FIFA digital channels, with multimedia toolkits provided to the 211 FIFA member associations and to media agencies to facilitate dissemination and use within Europe and beyond.
Meanwhile, players from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam reinforce WHO advice on how to help to keep our minds healthy, as well as our bodies, in the special ASEAN edition of #ReachOut.
Secretary-General of ASEAN Dato Lim Jock Hoi said, “Mental health and well-being are just as important as physical health and safety. Under the Chairmanship of Brunei Darussalam, ASEAN is taking steps to advance cooperation with external partners on mental health, in order to provide the ASEAN Community with the necessary and appropriate mental health and psychosocial support services.”
The World Health Organization (WHO) and FIFA signed a four-year collaboration in 2019 to promote healthy lifestyles through football globally.
The two organisations jointly launched the ‘Pass the message to kick out coronavirus’ campaign in March 2020 to share advice on effective measures to protect people from COVID-19.
This was followed by the #BeActive campaign in April 2020 to encourage people to stay healthy at home during the pandemic, and #SafeHome, a campaign launched to support those at risk from domestic violence, in May 2020. More recently, the two organisations teamed up at the FIFA Club World Cup to #ACTogether to promote the need for fair access to COVID-19 vaccines, treatments and diagnostics, and to encourage people to keep practicing life-saving, everyday public health measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and to protect health.

The local football family has been robbed of yet another legend- legendary former CAPS United captain Joe ‘Kode’ Mugabe has breathed his last.

He was 53.
Kode joined the Green Machine when he was 14 years old and rose to the senior team. . Since he became part of The Green Machine he was voted as the club’s Player of the Year a record four times in 1993, 1994, 1998 and 2001.

Chamisa Denies Links Deported UK Thieves
By A Correspondent- The Nelson Chamisa led MDC Alliance has distanced the party from alleged links to 14 Zimbabwean nationals who were deported from Britain last month.
The party’s UK and Ireland Provincial Research and Public Policy Portfolio Secretary Danmore Sithole said they were not related to the thugs.
Sithole responded to articles written by one Masimba Mavaza and published by a local website claiming that the MDC Alliance UK and Ireland chapter is associated with criminals. Said, Sithole:
Dr Masimba Mavaza, between 20 July and 5 August 2021, penned seven articles shamelessly linking the deported criminals to MDC Alliance.
In his most recent article, he dared to call MDC Alliance supporters rogues.
He marks his crossing of the red line by the article entitled “Mass deportations exposes MDC’s double standards”, published in the Bulawayo 24 News on 20 July 2021.
Besides attacking MDC Alliance specifically, he also makes offensive remarks about the general Zimbabwean community in the UK.
What motivates him to be such a dishonest busybody? Mandla Khumalo in his article entitled “The truth about Dr Masimba Mavaza” published in the Bulawayo 24 News on 23 February 2021, states boldly that Dr Mavaza is a Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) operative planted in the UK to destabilise the opposition.
It boggles the mind how Masimba Mavaza, who is ZANU PF lock, stock and barrel, can associate MDC Alliance with criminals without providing any shred of evidence.
In any case, the crimes committed by these criminals seem to be from the Gukurahundi manual. He cannot get away with soiling the excellent name of MDC Alliance in the UK while he sings for his supper.
Sithole alleges that “Masimba Mavaza is a heartless conman” who duped him £1 400 in 2010 when he wanted to renew his visa, which was about to expire the following year.
Mwonzora Confirms Selling-Out
By A Correspondent- MDC-T president Douglas Mwonzora says he is proud of the late United African National Congress (UANC) president and former Zimbabwe-Rhodesia Prime Minister, Bishop Abel Muzorewa.
Speaking in an interview with TechMagTV, Mwonzora insisted that he rates Muzorewa highly compared to the former President, the late Robert Mugabe.
Historians have labelled Muzorewa a puppet of the racist settler regime who allegedly worked with the Rhodesians to scupper blacks’ struggle for independence.
The Cursed “National” Heroes Acre
By Ndaba Nhuku- How so ironic the national shrine is. The man, Robert Mugabe, who created the national shrine and presided over it, used it as weapon for rewarding, and punishing and demeaning fellow liberation comrades.
Only a very very small number of decent individuals were rightly accorded the status with any arguments and drama. These were those who died early after independence when there was still a resemblance of normalcy within the liberation struggle parties.
However, as time went by, most of those who deserved to be buried there but were opposed to his politics were left in the cold, their families deprived of the rewards that came with the National Hero status; state freebies, free health and education and renumerations.
Those who were his faithful lap dogs and attack dogs were promptly and richly rewarded without any debate. Thus, we ended up with well known thieves and thugs buried at the so called national shrine simply because they were His most trusted and loyal lapdogs!
Sadly, some of those rewarded with the National Hero status were only accorded this in name only, mainly because not declaring them heroes would have raised a storm from influential fellow cadres.
Memorably, Ruth Chinamano and Tongogara’s widow publicly lamented the poverty they endured as their late husbands’ comrades lived lavishly, yet they had no one caring about them. Those who opposed were deemed to oppose Mugabe, especially from Zapu/Zipra were simply ignored, emissaries sent to shed crocodile tears on behalf of the ‘People’s Government’ with the bereaved families .
Most of those who saw this stunt and Zanufication of the shrine simply opted out of embarrassing their families, and left instructions not to be buried at the shrine. However, Mugabe would at times force his way to have some of these principled cadres buried there against their will. For what reason?
Only he himself and a few of his henchmen knew. Ironically, the very man himself; Robert Gabriel Mugabe, First Secretary of Zanu, who had his first wife Sally declared the first heroine to be buried at the National Heroes’ Acre, would opt not to be interred at his own created national shrine! Even beyond death, he would refuse to be exhumed for reburial at own shrine!! What a cunning fox, betraying everyone even in death!!
How so amazing and unexpected. Today, Mugabe lies lonely, far away from the maddenig crowd of his comrades’ shrine, the very shrine he seemed to have created for others whilst he himself is buried at some unknown private shrine. This life is so full of mysteries one would think we are only at peace once dead and buried.
Enter lap dog number one turned Chief Betrayer, Emmerson Nhlupheko Dambudzo Mnangagwa, he copies exactly what his lifelong mentor Mugabe used the shrine for, rewarding and punishing fellow liberation comrades.
This is a currsed “national’ shrine that only belongs to whoever is in power; noone knows who will or will not be interred there. The mad gods of Zanu are temperamental when it comes to burial at the shrine

Mnangagwa Throws Kazembe Under The Bus
By A Correspondent- Zanu PF has reversed the party’s Mashonaland Central Provincial Chairman Kazembe Kazembe’s decision to co-opt new members into the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC).
Kazembe, who is also the Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister, recently called for a PEC meeting which he chaired and co-opted four members, three of whom are his allies.
Kazembe was accused of demoting the provincial political commissar known as Tsine to the post of vice-chairperson, a less influential post.
He also co-opted one Kararira, who is his close ally, and his right-hand man, Mudzingwa, was made the vice secretary for security.
Mazowe Central member of parliament Sydney Chidamba was also co-opted to deputy secretary for finance.
However, ZANU PF Acting National Political Commissar Patrick Chinamasa confirmed that the co-options are illegal therefore null and void.
Kazembe is accused of making the co-options in a move to consolidate his power base ahead of provincial elections set to be held in line with the ZANU PF constitution.
He reportedly faces competition from James Makamba, Lazarus Dokora, Sam Parirenyatwa, and Monica Mavhunga, who are vying for the Provincial chairmanship.
Kazembe has been accused of using his position in Government to cause the arrest of his opponents on trumped-up charges.
Bulawayo24 quoted a ZANU PF official as saying:
Nicholas Goche fell victim to Kazembe’s wrath after being arrested on livestock allegations at the behest of Kazembe, the Minister responsible for the police.
Lazarus Dokora, the chairman of the ZANU PF Mash Central working committee for the party’s National People’s conference, was demoted by Kazembe from chairman to coordinator.
Kazembe unilaterally demoted Dokora after reports that Dokora was a clear favourite to land the provincial chairmanship.
Messi Breaks Down At Farewell Presser
An emotional Lionel Messi broke down to tears following a massive round of applause from the Barcelona board and players in his farewell press conference at Nou Camp on Sunday.
The six-time World Player of the Year is leaving the Catalan giants after a glittering career spanning 17 years.
Barcelona shocked the world last week, when they announced that the 34-year old will not continue at the club.
Messi broke down to tears following a massive round of applause from the club’s hierarchy, players as well as his family.
The Argentina captain admitted that he wasn’t ready to leave the club.
“During the past few days, I have been thinking. I gave a lot of thought about what I could say here. And the truth is, I can’t think of anything,” a tearful Messi said.
“This is really difficult for me, after so many years, I have been here my entire life- Im not ready for this.”
“Honestly, with all the nonsense last year, I was convinced and I knew what I wanted to say, but this year is not the same,” he added.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Woman Turns Hubby Into Punching Bag
By A Correspondent- A man from Mpopoma suburb had to ask the law to help him after his wife turned him into a punching bag for allegedly bringing his girlfriends to their matrimonial home and sleeping with them on their bed while she was away.
Daniels Dube (45) has faced a tough time at the hands of his abusive wife Nokuthaba Moyo (27) who always beats him whenever she returns from buying her clothing stock from South Africa or Mozambique.
Dube said his wife was fed false reports by a neighbour that whenever she was away, he would bring his lover to their matrimonial home and they would booze in the living room and after that sleep on their matrimonial bed.
Dube has tried to explain to his wife that he did not have any lover and had never brought any woman to their home, but she would not believe his side of the story.
Instead she would accuse him of disrespecting her and hit him with fists in front of the children. And she would insult him saying he was a lazy man who does not want to look for a job and was only after prostitutes. Dube had to seek legal intervention at Western Commonage court.
“I’m applying for a protection order against my wife Nokuthaba Moyo whom I have two minor children with. She is in the habit of accusing me of cheating on her saying I brought my girlfriend to our matrimonial home and would drink alcohol with her and sleep with her on our bed. I have tried to explain to her that I never did that and she was lied to. She would fume at me and would pick anything in the house and hit me with it. She does this in the presence of our minor children and would tell me that I’m a lazy man and I do not want to look for a job,” he said.
Nokuthaba said: “I have enough evidence that he cheats on me. Sadly I’m the one who takes care of him and the children.”
The presiding magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube granted Daniels an interim order against his wife. Nokuthaba was ordered not to physically and emotionally abuse her husband.

Auction System Forex Backlog To Be Cleared
By A Correspondent- The government intends to clear the foreign currency backlog at the auction system within a month-and-a-half, Secretary for Finance and Economic Development George Guvamatanga has said.
Guvamatanga said this while speaking at the post-Mid-Term Budget and Economic Performance Review hosted by Business Weekly in partnership with Zimpapers Television Network (ZTN) and the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI)
Although Guvamatanga did not specify the amount involved, former Monetary Policy Committee member Eddie Cross is on record saying the backlog is approximately US$200 million.
He said with inflation coming down and production growing, the exchange rate should be strengthening.
Said Guvamatanga:
We would want to assure the market that within the next 30 to 45 days we will clear the backlog that is there in the auction system. We know what it is and it is very much manageable.
What we receive on a monthly basis is very much adequate to support industry growth and demand for foreign currency.
Guvamatanga said the local banking sector is now sitting on US$1.7 billion in foreign currency deposits which banks are failing to utilise. He said:
We have banks today who are sitting on 50 per cent of their deposits which they are not lending, so the ecosystem is actually disrupted because we have US$1.7 billion sitting in foreign currency accounts which is not circulating in the economy.
So if banks were lending that money, the companies which are currently coming to the auction would stop coming to the auction and that would actually complete the ecosystem of the economy.

Lobola Refund- Man Torches In-laws’ Home
By A Correspondent- A bitter Mutasa man reportedly burnt his mother’s hut and proceeded to torch his in-laws’ hut after he was dumped by his wife.
The bitter man reduced his close relatives’ property to ashes as he demanded to get a refund for his lobola.
Knowledge Manhanga, 31, destroyed property worth $67 000. He appeared before Mutare magistrate Rumbidzai Kabasa and he was convicted on his own plea of guilty.
The State represented by Ann Chibvongodze proved that some time in July, Manhanga had a misunderstanding with his wife who then left for her parents’ homestead.
It was the State’s case that Manhanga accused his mother of conniving with his wife to desert him. While his mother was away, Manhanga went to his mother’s homestead in Domborutinhira Village and set her hut on fire.
On the same night, Manhanga also went to his in-laws homestead in the same village where he had an argument with his father-in-law while demanding lobola refund and threatening to destroy their homestead if his demands were not met.
He later torched a hut at the homestead. Manhanga was arrested after a police report was made, Manica Post reports.
iHarare had also reported that the saying “hell hath no fury like a scorned woman” came true after a woman locked up her husband, sister and maid inside a house before setting it on fire.
Zion Christian Church (ZCC) leader, Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi’s niece, Princess Mutendi torched the house in which her pregnant young sister Fiona was. This happened after Princess had discovered that Fiona was having an affair with her husband.
The accused Princess Mutendi and Fiona are reportedly daughters of Levite Mutendi who happens to be Bishop Nehemiah’s brother.
Details leading to the love affair between Princess’ husband Alex Marange and her younger sister say it all began when Princess’ husband relocated her to South Africa whilst he remained behind in Zimbabwe.
While his wife was settling in South Africa, Alex is alleged to have started a love affair with his wife’s younger sister Fiona.
However, all hell broke loose after Princess discovered the love affair between her husband and sister.

Soldiers Languish In Remand Prison
By A Correspondent- Seven South African soldiers who are accused of facilitating the smuggling of stolen vehicles from their country to Zimbabwe have been denied bail by a Musina magistrate court sitting in Louis Trichardt.
The court proceedings were moved to another town last Thursday after the Department of Employment and Labour Occupational Health Safety (OHS) inspectorate prohibited the use of Musina magistrate court.
This follows a complaint raised by workers in June this year over the unsafe environment at the area.
Limpopo’s department of public prosecutions spokesperson Ms Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi said the accused persons were arrested between 21 and 22 June. She said the case was postponed to 1 September pending further investigations and the suspects will remain in custody.
Rapula Reuben Maidi (49) from Ikageng, Edward Lepokola (48) from Sebokeng, Bulelani Danti (29) from King Wiliams Town, Ludwe Gwedashe from Port Elizabeth, Thembani Mjelo (31) from East London, Marks Funeka (49) from Carletonville, Peter Thato Namane (51) from Soshanguve, have been languishing in remand prison since their arrest.
“In denying them bail, the court indicated that there are no exceptional circumstances adduced by the applicants in their application for bail as the offence fell under Schedule 6. During the bail proceedings, the applicants did not testify and filed affidavits in support of their bail applications. The prosecution, in opposing bail, led the evidence of the investigating officer and three other police officers,” said Ms Malabi Dzhangi.
She said police officers had testified that they had received a message that the accused persons were allegedly planning to escape from custody.
In addition, she said the police officers had alleged that the group was arranging to hire a traditional healer (sangoma) to eliminate the investigating team and the prosecutor. Ms Malabi-Dzhangi said from June 2019 to February 2020 the suspects allegedly accepted a bribe of R15 000 to allow each stolen vehicle to cross the border to Zimbabwe.
“The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) received information about SANDF members who were assisting vehicle smuggling syndicates to smuggle suspected stolen vehicles through the Limpopo River. The Hawks and the military police in a joint operation ‘Night Vigil’ managed to arrest the suspects,” she said.
The smuggling of vehicles along the Limpopo River is rife and most of the vehicles will be en-route to Malawi, Mozambique, and Tanzania while some will be destined for the Zimbabwean market.

Drama As Zupco Driver Is Kidnapped By Honda Fit Team
By A Correspondent- A Zupco bus driver is lucky to be alive after he was pulled from his vehicle and bundled into the boot of a Honda Fit by a driver and his partners in crime who were chasing after him.
Mlondolozi Moyo (35) was driving a Zupco-owned Toyota Hiace from Pumula South to Zupco depot in Kelvin North on Thursday at around 5.30pm.
Along the way Bornwell Moyo (36) who was driving a Honda Fit with two men on board hooted at him to stop but Mlondolozi did not stop as he suspected that it could be criminals who were up to rob him, said a source.
Mlondolozi increased his speed and drove to the depot. The Honda Fit followed him in hot pursuit.
The source said Mlondolozi drove into the depot and parked his car but before he could disembark Bornwell parked his Honda Fit beside Mlondolozi’s vehicle.
“While wielding an iron bar, Bornwell and his accomplices jumped off their car. One of the guys grabbed Mlondolozi and pulled him from his car and they bundled him into the boot of their Honda Fit,” said the source.
They pummelled Mlondlozi with open hands and hit with him an iron bar, said the source.
Mlondolozi screamed for help prompting other Zupco drivers who were at the depot to come to his rescue. They blocked the Honda Fit from driving off, said a source at the Zupco depot.
Another source who witnessed the incident said: “Within a few minutes’ people had gathered at the scene. They stoned the Honda Fit and assaulted Bornwell and his accomplices.”
The source went on to say some people from the crowd punctured the tyres of the Honda Fit and smashed its windows.
ZRP Western Commonage attended the scene and dispersed the crowd.
The Honda Fit was taken to Western Commonage Police Station.
Mlondolozi made a report of kidnapping at the police station while Bornwell made a report of malicious damage to his property. He was then arrested.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.

FULL TEXT- LEAD PRESIDENT LINDA MASARIRA’S HEROES DAY STATEMENT
9 August 2021
Heroes Day is a day of remembrance to commemorate the commitment of Zimbabweans to the struggle for Independence. Today we remember the gallant daughters and sons of the soil who perished during the war of liberation.
The onus is on us now to ensure that the struggle they fought for is achieved. The fallen heroes fought for majority rule, land and socioeconomic justice. Yes, we attained majority rule, we have the land yet over half of the population of Zimbabwe is living in poverty.
As the President of Labour Economists and Afrikan Democrats, I urge all Zimbabweans regardless of political affiliation, race, tribe or gender to unite in our diversity and identify with the concept of nationalism.
We need to put Zimbabwe first beyond our own personal aspirations. It is imperative to recognize that there is need for the youths of this generation to father the nation today and not tomorrow.
The liberators of this country were young girls and boys yet 41 years after independence the youth of this country remain marginalized without equal opportunities to create wealth. We recognize the significance of the liberation struggle and the contributions of the war veterans who waged it.
LEAD is not ignorant of the reasons that drove many gallant sons and daughters of the soil into various jungles to fight exclusion, oppression and repression to ensure a free Democratic sovereign state.
We recognize the founding values and principles of Zimbabwe in reference to section 3 of our constitution. We, the disciplined members of LEAD pledge to fight to safeguard the gains of the liberation struggle and to ensure that Zimbabwe becomes an egalitarian society.
It is important for all Zimbabweans to pledge to uphold and defend the supremacy of the constitution of Zimbabwe. As we commemorate this day, we should understand that there should be room for the youth in national discourse as directed by section 20 of our constitution and that there should be social mobility in this land of our ancestors.
Our fathers fought for this country so that we can enjoy; therefore, we should enjoy! Young people from the age of 10 selflessly sacrificed their lives to liberate Zimbabwe. The onus is upon this generation of young people to emulate the brave acts of the young people who spearheaded the liberation of Zimbabwe in 1980.
LEAD resolved to stand up against any further undermining and privatisation of the liberation struggle. We refuse any form of discrimination and inequality based on tribe, race, disability or sex but to promote a culture of inclusion and unity of purpose.
In the spirit of Ubuntu we, the LEAD family are committed to restoring the family legacy believing that we, the current generation are responsible for shaping the future of this country. We are all Zimbabwean and equal, therefore we all deserve to live in peace, joy and happiness.
Our children should never again have to be second class citizens in their own country. As we celebrate the liberation heroes today, we celebrate all our doctors and nurses on the Frontline who have been working tirelessly with the covid-19 patients.
We salute you and appreciate your sacrifices. We remain patriotic and will remain united in our resolve to build Zimbabwe into a strong nation not divided along any false ideologies. No one should be allowed to reverse the gains of the liberation struggle.
Therefore we are determined to ensure that we restore the true legacy of Zimbabwe. A legacy of unity of purpose to ensure sustainable human development and economic growth.
We all have a responsibility to rebuild Zimbabwe and to leave a legacy for our children, grandchildren and great grand children.
Happy Heroes Day Zimbabweans.

“We Must Create Our Own Democracy Devoid Of Bloodshed”
“Mugabe Was The Epitome Of A Cursed Leader”
By Nomusa Garikai- There is overwhelming evidence out there to show Nelson Madiba Mandela was a visionary leader his greatest legacy to South Africa is a stable democratic system of government.
On the other hand, Robert Gabriel Mugabe is the very epitome of a cursed leader; corrupt, incompetent and a murderous tyrant; whose legacy is the Banana Republic of Zimbabwe. The two leaders are poles apart, it is hard to see how anyone could ever confuse them. John Kamau not only confused the two but even has the murderous tyrant, Mugabe, as a hero!
“Forget what you may have read in Western press about the late Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe. Forget the propaganda and Western hate. Forgive the excesses of his rule – human rights abuse and extremes that could run from Cairo to Timbuktu. But on land policy, Mugabe was right. Yet he was vilified for that,” wrote Kamau.
“Had he done nothing on the white-owned farms and left them intact, he would be ranked by Western media alongside Nelson Mandela.”
This is just the renting of a village idiot arguing that people must forget the danger to life posed by swimming in a dam teaming with hungry crocodiles and focus on benefit of the cooling swim! Of course, it is foolish!
Robert Mugabe cared about absolute power and the influence and wealth it brought him. In his search for absolute power he did not hesitate to ride roughshod over the ordinary people, denying them their basic freedoms and rights including the right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country and even the right to life.
Zimbabwe’s economy has been in decline ever since 1980 when the country gained her independence. Today, a staggering 49% of Zimbabweans are living in abject poverty and living alongside them are the country’s filthy rich ruling elite and their cronies.
The worldwide corona virus pandemic has hit Zimbabwe very hard as it found the nation in economic ruins and its health care service collapsed after decades of gross mismanagement, rampant corruption and rank lawlessness that had seen the country regarded a pariah state and shunned by investors. To rub salt into the open wounds of the impoverished majority the thieving ruling elite have been looting corona virus donations.
“Auditors noted systematic abuse of funds, including how fake names, identity documents and mobile phone numbers were used in the grant looting scheme in which $890 million may have been stolen,” reported New Zimbabwe the other day.
“The audit was funded by World Bank (WB) and it focused mainly on how Covid-19 relief funds were disbursed, management of quarantine centres and isolation centres, among other issues.”
This is not an isolated incident; a few weeks ago, the Auditor General reported that only 1% of the cash and materials donated to help victims of the 2019 Cyclone Ida reached the intended, the rest was looted or otherwise wasted.
The people of Zimbabwe have watched the country go to the dogs and were helpless to stop the rot because Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies have rigged the elections starting with the 1980 elections. Zimbabwe is a de facto one-party, Zanu PF, dictatorship. Mugabe has murdered over 30 000 Zimbabweans in his 37 years in power to establish and retain the dictatorship.
Mugabe was finally booted out of office following a palace coup in 2017 and his former henchman, Emmerson Mnangagwa took over. Zimbabwe is still a Banana Republic, a pariah state, or be it under new management.
The Mugabe ethos of seeking absolute power and demand the lion’s share of the nation’s wealth is born out of the belief that as the nation’s liberation heroes he and his cronies are entitled to whatever they wish. Sadly, this ethos has permeated from the top right down to the bottom; even the village head is as keen as mustard to demonstrate their loyalty to Zanu PF and, in return, wield their power and authority as befitting the tyrant.
Uprooting the Zanu PF dictatorship mentality will take generation if at all it is ever accomplished. The country has far too many tyrants and dictators who having tasted power are addicted to it and will not want to give it up.
“Mandela failed to address the land inequity in South Africa, even when goodwill was on his side. Mugabe decided to give it a shot,” continued Kamau.
“Mayhem.
“In his lifetime, especially at the tail-end of his rule, Mugabe was the most maligned president in Africa for doing what was right, on land, for his people.”
Even if one was to follow Kamau’s advice and ignore all Mugabe’s economic, social and political shortcomings and focus on the land issue; Mugabe’s handling of the issue is a total disaster.
Mugabe did not embark on his land redistribution until 2000, 20 years after the country’s independence. Up until then, Zimbabwe produced enough food to not only feed her people but to be the breadbasket of the region and earned a fortune from such cash crops as tobacco. It is no exaggeration to say the agricultural sector was the engine of Zimbabwe’s booming economy.
Within a few years of Mugabe starting his land redistribution, the country’s agricultural production collapsed and with it the economy. Zimbabwe has lost the breadbasket of the region accolade to gain mocking basket case of a failed state, depending on donated food aid. in society.
Whilst other nation have turned deserts into blooming orchards, we in Zimbabwe are starving in a land which for all intent and purposes is the Biblical Garden of Eden; a damning testimonial in failed national leadership!
The reason why Mugabe started his land redistribution 20 years after independence is obvious; by then he was running out of loot to dish out to his ever demanding and wasteful cronies and the only other resource of value left was land. He knew giving away the land to his cronies would damage the agricultural production and with it the economy because his cronies would be wasteful, as with everything else. He still went ahead regardless because all he cared about is retaining his cronies’ loyalty and with-it political power.
Robert Mugabe was a corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and ruthless and murderous tyrant and, which is often forgotten, a consummate racist. Everything Mugabe did or said was calculated to prove that blacks are not inferior to whites and so one can only imagine how he must have felt when a few years after independence his promise of mass prosperity, “Gutsa ruzhinji!” as he called it, was slowly but surely turning into mass poverty.
The total economic collapse following the farm seizures in 2000 to 2008 turned Zimbabwe into a failed Banana Republic and confirmed Mugabe’s position as just another corrupt, incompetent and murderous African dictator. Mugabe’s response was to blame the west for all Zimbabwe’s misfortune.
Mugabe’s vitriolic anti-white diatribe became the high point at the UN General Assembly and all international forums in which he was given half a chance to speak. He had a ready-made audience in all Pan-African blacks who had a grievance against the whites dated back to the days of slavery!
Mugabe’s anti-white rhetoric was shadow boxing, particularly blaming the west for Zimbabwe’s economic collapse when it was as clear as day that mismanagement and corruption were the real causes.
The seizure of the former white owned farms was accompanied by gratuitous violence against the white farmers to please his naïve and gullible Pan-Africanists. They did not notice or did not care that the gratuitous violence against the white farmers was a prelude to violence against all Zanu PF’s critics and political opponents who were all accused of siding with the whites and the west in opposing the party’s land redistribution.
As far as Mugabe and his Zanu PF regime was concerned all those demanding free, fair and credible elections and meaningful democratic change were seeking one thing and one thing only regime change so they can reverse Zanu PF’s land redistribution. Of course, it is nonsense that Zimbabwe only one issue on the national agenda – land.
As it happened, Zanu PF’s land redistribution was a disaster for the nation for it triggered the collapse of the agricultural sector and with it the economy and since the country is a dictatorship in which whatever Zanu PF’s ruling elite decree is law, the nation was stuck with the failed system.
Nelson Mandela gave South Africa a healthy and functioning democracy; the nation has successfully held free, fair and credible elections; and so if the majority of South Africans are not happy with the nation’s land policies or any other issue, they can vote for leaders with alternative policies.
If Nelson Mandela had tackled the country’s thorny land issue and came up with a perfect solution but left the country’s a weak and feeble political system in which corrupt, incompetent and murderous tyrants ruled the roost, then the chances are they would have reversed Mandela’s good policies by now. And so, securing a healthy and functional democratic system of government for SA was a wise decision befitting of the visionary leader.
It pays in the end to get the best in the beginning, especially when it comes to national leaders who legacy for good or bad will last for generation; this is clearly something the naïve, gullible and myopic African nationalists and their fanatical followers have never ever understood!
“On land, Mugabe walked path other African leaders would not!” Yes, but look where he landed Zimbabwe!
FULL TEXT: Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum Issues Heroes Day Statement
9 August 2021
Each year Zimbabwe sets aside a day to remember the heroes and heroines who stood up against oppression and all forms of human rights violations.
Today, the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum (the Forum) joins the rest of the country in commemorating this day and saluting the living and departed heroes and heroines of the continuing struggle against all forms of domination, oppression and violation of human rights.
The Forum acknowledges that the work of the heroes and heroines of the armed struggle will never be complete until all the people of Zimbabwe are truly free and their rights and freedoms are respected and protected.
Regrettably, this day has lost meaning for the generality of the people owing to the increasing insecurity for many vulnerable people due to the worsening economic situation, rising political tensions and the unending attack by the State on vulnerable citizens.
This Heroes Day is an opportunity for us as a nation to reflect on the long-forgotten ideals of heroes of yesteryear, including respect for the fundamental rights and freedoms guaranteed by Chapter 4 of our Constitution.
The 2021 Heroes Day commemorations occur when continuous violence is being perpetrated against civilians for political expediency.
The Forum laments the cyclic human rights violations occurring at the hands of the security forces, which are the heirs of the armed struggle heroes.
The Zimbabwean state has failed to capture human security ideals and transform itself in the service of human dignity.
In every Heroes Day statement issued by the State since independence, commitments to human rights have been rhetoric or cosmetic at best, which has resulted in further repression. The security sector remains at the centre of violence, which the Forum continues to condemn.
The war on human dignity spreads beyond the State’s direct violence, as witnessed on 1 August 2018; 14 January 2019 and the COVID-19 lockdown violations in 2020 and 2021.
As the nation reflects on the work and ideals of our yesteryear heroes, the question that all citizens have “is this the Zimbabwe our heroes envisaged?”
The Forum, therefore, calls on the State to:
- urgently put in place structural reforms, which include the substantive and comprehensive transformation of the security forces to ensure non-recurrence so that citizens of Zimbabwe can enjoy their rights without fear of repression in an independent country.
- Implement an inclusive human-centred approach to economic development that prioritises the welfare of the people.
- Take advantage of this year’s Heroes’ Day to initiate a truly professional security force, which is driven by the ideals of ending repression drawn from our heroes.
Long Distance Buses, Passengers Fined
By A Correspondent- Police have fined three long-distance buses ZWL$2 000 each and their passengers ZWL$200 each for violating the COVID-19 intercity travel ban.
The three buses, which were impounded on Monday last week, are Silver King, Graca and Smart Express.
Chipinge Officer Commanding (Dispol) Kennedy Nyaumwe confirmed the matter to Chipinge Times, saying the buses were travelling from Mutare to Beitbridge.
He said Silver King and Graca were arrested at Nyanyadzi but they had no passengers.
It is suspected that the buses dropped off the passengers just before the roadblock with the plan that they would walk past through the bushes to avoid police.
Smart Express which was heading towards Masvingo was intercepted at Birchenough Bridge. Said Nayumwe:
We discourage members of the public from making unnecessary movements and instead, follow guidelines set by WHO and health officials.
The roadblocks will be there 24/7 and we hope our counterparts in various districts are doing the same.

Mwonzora’s MDC- T Okays Mayoral Mansion Worth Over US$290k
By A Correspondent- The Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC-T supports a proposal by the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) to construct a mayoral house in Selbourne Park for ZWL$25 million (almost US$295 000).
However, the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa believes those funds can be used to improve service delivery.
BCC, dominated by Councillors loyal to Mwonzora, proposed to construct a new house rather than renovate a double-storey council property which had been identified as the mayoral official residence, located in Hornung Golf Club in Burnside.
According to a confidential council report obtained by CITE, the Burnside property is run down and if it was to undergo extensive renovations it would cost the local authority US$146 364.70.
Speaking during an interview with the publication, MDC-T National Spokesperson, Witness Dube said the city mayor deserved proper accommodation, as it was a standard procedure all over the world. Said, Dube:
The mayor is not an executive mayor. This will be a council house and part of council property so given a house to stay in goes with the job. This is standard everywhere in the world.
It was odd that we had a mayor who doesn’t stay in a council house. There is nothing new with him given a house.
Dube argued there was no question of extravagance as far as the mayor’s house is concerned saying, “as in this case if you convert ZWL$25 million it is less than US$300 000.” He added:
If council approves the budget, they should stick to it and finish the construction on time so that costs don’t escalate.
We know ratepayers come first, but it doesn’t mean the mayor getting a house will abdicate his responsibility to them.
MDC Alliance Bulawayo Provincial Spokesperson, Swithern Chirowodza, indicated that the proposal was not discussed with Bulawayo residents during the current financial year budget consultations. He said:
Therefore, this is not provided as an expenditure item. MDC Alliance feels the money can be better spent repairing burst sewer pipes in Old Magwegwe where raw sewer flowed into more than 50 houses four days ago and the opportunity cost of a mayoral mansion is that of stopping that raw sewage.
The incumbent, Councillor Solomon Mguni, currently resides in Nkulumane suburb and Chirowodza pointed out that he would “live far from his voting constituency once the mayoral mansion is completed.”
The provincial spokesperson also declared Cllr Mguni was no longer part of the MDC Alliance. Said Chirowodza:
Mguni has never attended a single meeting since he was elected into office in 2018 despite him being part of the Provincial Executive Committee. Mguni never repudiated statements in which the MDC-T claimed him.

“Zimbabwe Will Not Forget Your Sacrifice”: ED’s Heroes Day Message
Blow For Kazembe Kazembe
By A Correspondent- ZANU PF Mashonaland Central Provincial Chairman Kazembe Kazembe suffered humiliation after the party’s commissariat department reversed his decision to co-opt new members into the Provincial executive committee.
The Home Affairs Minister is said to have called for the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) where he chaired and managed to co-opt four members, three of whom are his allies who were allegedly put to fight in his corner.
Kazembe was accused of demoting the provincial political commissar known as Tsine and promoted him to vice-chairperson, a less powerful post.
He also co-opted one Kararira who is his close ally and his right-hand man Mudzingwa was given the vice secretary for security and Mazowe Central member of parliament Sydney Chidamba was also co-opted to deputy secretary for finance.
ZANU PF Acting National Political Commissar Patrick Chinamasa confirmed that the co-options are illegal therefore null and void.
Kazembe is accused of making the co-options in a move to consolidate his power base ahead of provincial elections set to be held in line with the ZANU PF constitution.
The embattled Kazembe faces a stiff challenge from James Makamba, Lazarus Dokora, Sam Parirenyatwa, and Monica Mavhunga who are vying for the Provincial chairmanship.
Mashonaland Central ZANU PF officers accuse Kazembe of using his home affairs portfolio to arrest and intimidate opponents and those believed to be backing his opponents.
“Nicholas Goche fell victim to Kazembe’s wrath after he was arrested on livestock allegations at the behest of Kazembe who is the Minister responsible for police,” a ZANU PF member told this reporter. “Lazarus Dokora the chairman of the ZANU PF mash central working committee for the party’s National People’s conference was also demoted by Kazembe from chairman to coordinator. Kazembe unilaterally demoted Dokora after reports that Dokora was a clear favorite to land the provincial chairmanship.”

Bogus Political Parties Flock POLAD
By A Correspondent- The government-funded opposition coalition body, The Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD), said bogus political parties are flocking their offices with applications to join the state resources looting vehicle.
The alleged applications come immediately after President Emmerson Mnangagwa handed over 19 brand new vehicles to POLAD principals, a move that has attracted criticism from some quarters.
Critics feel that the government’s move to award cars to POLAD members was meant to lure more members to the platform and to them into being “submissive” to the government.
POLAD head of secretariat Virginia Mabhiza said most of the applications are from political parties that did not field presidential candidates during the 2018 polls.
Ever since the issuing of vehicles to POLAD principals, I have been overwhelmed by an influx of requests and applications of political parties requesting to join POLAD. Some of the political parties are not even known or registered. I’m overwhelmed right now.
If I just flip my (email) page right now, there are about eight applications. There are more than these that have come forward since the issue of vehicles came out.
Mabhiza singled out LEAD president Linda Masarira as one of the political leaders who have applied to join POLAD long before the donation of vehicles.
In a letter to Mabhiza, The African Democrats (TAD), one of the several opposition parties that participated in the 2018 polls but did not field a presidential candidate, has formally requested to join POLAD.
TAD president Marco Machona who is based in South Africa confirmed the development. Reads a letter recently written by Machona to Mabhiza:
We intend to join POLAD and explore the opportunities to learn, to also share our own ideas, and be catalysts in progressive politics and development in our country.
We would like your assistance in directing our organisation on how it can be part of POLAD.
Machona said POLAD should open its doors to all political parties that did not field presidential parties during the previous election.
Mabhiza confirmed that POLAD’s code of conduct only limits participants to the 2018 losing presidential candidates.
POLAD was formed to address the humanitarian, economic and political crises in the country which some analysts believed was being worsened by the deadlock between ZANU OF and the MDC Alliance.
The platform has also been pushing the engagement and re-engagement agenda the government embarked on in 2017.
Several opposition parties pulled out of POLAD following its formation in May 2019, while others, such as the MDC Alliance, led by Nelson Chamisa, never joined.

By A Correspondent- A Mutasa man ran amock and burnt down his in-laws’ hut before demanding his lobola money back after his wife dumped him.

Knowledge Manhanga, 31, destroyed property worth $67 000. He appeared before Mutare magistrate Rumbidzai Kabasa, and he was convicted on his plea of guilty.
The State represented by Ann Chibvongodze proved that Manhanga had a misunderstanding sometime in July with his wife, who then left for her parents’ homestead.
In the State’s case, Manhanga accused his mother of conniving with his wife to desert him. While his mother was away, Manhanga went to his mother’s homestead in Domborutinhira Village and set her hut on fire.

Outrage As Suspended Junior Employee Buys Council Belvedere House
A Harare City Council junior employee in the housing department, who is on suspension over allegations of abuse of office and corrupt parceling out of stands, has become the owner of an expensive low-density suburban council house in Belvedere, meant for rent to a top manager, against all council policies.

This comes when council is overwhelmed with applications by serving senior managers and other staff seeking to be accommodated in council-owned houses and with a general policy that council-owned houses cannot be sold.
Investigations by The Herald revealed that Mr Aaron Tayerera, a clerical officer in Grade 11, who is among several council employees on suspension over corrupt land deals, was allowed to buy 49A Lancaster Avenue (also known as Stand 1448 Belvedere) for an undisclosed amount, stripping the local authority of its assets.
Normally he would be several grades too junior to be even allocated the expensive house as a rented property.
Sources say the property was sold for US$80 000, which raises the question of how the purchase was funded considering a council employee in Grade 11 gets a monthly salary in the region of $30 000, just under US$350 at the current auction rate.
But regardless of the price, which could be on the low side as well as too high for a clerical officer, the house is supposed to remain under council ownership accommodating serving top managers in need.
Access to decent accommodation is often necessary to attract top-end staff into council service.
Harare Acting Mayor Councillor Stewart Mutizwa confirmed the transaction and said it was totally unacceptable but had happened before his appointment.
“I am aware of the case but the position is no one is allowed to buy an institutional property. The circumstances under which the house was sold were unusual. Houses meant for our employees cannot be sold to anyone, no matter what grade the purchaser holds. Institutional houses must remain council property accommodating those employees in need.
“We are actually sitting on a backlog of employees in need of institutional accommodation and stripping council of its assets that way is unacceptable,” said Cllr Mutizwa.
Investigations by The Herald revealed that MDC-A councillors, some jointly implicated in the land deals with Tayerera, approved the sale of the property.
Asked to comment on the case, Tayerera said: “I don’t discuss such matters on the phone,” before hanging up. Further efforts to locate Mr Tayerera failed.
The criteria used in allocating Tayerera the house remains unclear considering he had never stayed at the property before and his grade is too low for renting the house, let alone for special permission to buy it.
In a criminal case pending at the Harare Magistrate’s Court, it is alleged that between 2018 and 2019, Tayerera and former housing director Matthew Marara hatched a plan to irregularly convert a public open space in Strathaven under council ownership into a residential stand and then sell it for personal gain.
They allegedly demarcated the land, gave it a fictitious stand number and sold it to an unsuspecting land seeker Aaron Gomo, allegedly for US$20 900, the court heard.
To cover up for the offence, the pair, it is alleged, created an offer letter and agreement of sale backdated to 2017, which they signed and handed to Gomo. The offence was discovered by the City of Harare Investigations department through a tip off.
Allegedly fraudulent and fake documents including a fraudulent file, fake layout plan, offer letter and agreement of sale manufactured by the pair are being held as exhibits. Herald

Go Well Kode From Mabvuku
By Marshall Shonhayi
Kode from Mabvuku!
Sad to hear the passing on of one of Caps United’s illustrious sons Joe Mugabe.
One of the finest midfielders to ever come from Zimbabwe. He was part of the all conquering cup kings class of 1996, one of the best assembled Green Machine sides which had the likes of Alois GQ Bunjira Stewart Murisa, Silver Chigwenje, Mpumelelo Dzowa, Frank Nyamukuta and many, many other legends.
96 is up there with the class of 1979 and Mhlauri’s 2001/2 side. Just a few days back the coach of that legendary Makepekepe Steve “The Dude” Kwashi also passed on.
I remember Kode’s last match for Caps United in Rufaro stadium should have been in 2000/1 or there abouts. We lost to the bitter enemy (you know who ) 2-1.
The sight of Gift “Umbro” Muzadzi hold Kode’s hands and leading him to the Vietnam stand where the whole Dembare faithfuls stood up to give Kode one last standing ovation will forever remain etched on my memory. What a send off! That is the beauty of football. No wonder it is called the most beautiful game in the world.
Rest now Kode from Mabvuku, and thank you for the beautiful memories.

COVID-19 Pandemic: Government, Private Hospitals Clash Over High Admission Fees For Patients
Most private hospitals offering Covid-19 treatment are turning the pandemic into an economic and psychological nightmare for patients, with some of the institutions charging admission fees of up to US$1 000 per night.
With most Government hospitals already overwhelmed by Covid-19 patients, the only hope available for those needing treatment is private care, whose costs have spiralled beyond the reach of many.
A survey carried out by The Sunday Mail over the last few days revealed that the cost of admission of a Covid-19 patient at private clinics such as West End and Avenues Clinic is ranging from US$800 to US$1 000 per day in the intensive care unit (ICU). Montagu Clinic, which operates under Avenues Clinic in Harare, caters for five-day admissions and is reportedly charging US$3 500 for a general ward, US$5 100 for its high-dependence unit (HDU), US$4 000 for a private ward and US$7 600 for the intensive care unit (ICU). Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo is demanding a deposit of US$5 000 for patients who need ICU hospitalisation, an eye watering amount.
Most Covid-19 patients now have bills running into thousands of US dollars, while some patients are losing their lives after opting out of the private hospitals.
Chief co-ordinator of the National Response to the Covid-19 in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Dr Agnes Mahomva, said the Government would look into the issue. She said while charging Covid-19 patients was an administrative issue on the part of the Ministry of Health and Child Care, it was the Government that gives permission to private hospitals to test and treat Covid-19 patients.
“Since this is a global pandemic, the Government roped in the private sector to help in treating and testing of Covid-19 patients. We encourage people to go to the public health institutions and follow the correct channels, they will receive help,” she said.
The Medical and Dental Private Practitioners of Zimbabwe Association (MDPPZA), a body of medical practitioners in private practice, said the charges were justified.
MDPPZA president Dr Johannes Marisa said healthcare workers treating coronavirus patients faced extraordinary risks to themselves and their families.
“Inputs needed to manage and treat a Covid-19 patient are very expensive, especially the procurement of oxygen. We are not funded by anybody and in essence we are left with little to nothing after treatment of a Covid-19 patient,” he said.
Dismissing the allegations of profiteering, Dr Marisa said: “We provide research-backed cutting-edge care and our outcomes are comparable to the best. This does make Covid-19 care expensive.”- The Sunday Mail

Logarusic To Stay…
HAVING been spared the axe despite public outcry over poor results, under-fire Warriors coach Zdravko “Loga” Logarusic flew out of the country Friday night for yet another vacation.
This means there will be no drastic measures against the embattled Croat gaffer.ations made by the association’s technical and development committee on Logarusic’s future was also called off.
The Bryton Malandule-led ZIFA technical and development committee met last month soon after Zimbabwe’s disastrous performance at the 2021 COSAFA Cup, in which the Warriors finished bottom of the 10-team tournament.
The committee immediately forwarded its recommendations to the ZIFA board, which has, however, not sat up to this day.
A board meeting that was set for yesterday was called off and instead it was “Loga” who had the luxury of flying back to his native country for another holiday.
The countdown for the crucial 2022 World Cup opening qualifier against South Africa has begun. The Warriors host Bafana Bafana at the National Sports Stadium on September 1.
Logarusic has already made his selection for the crunch clash and letters of invitation have been sent to various clubs.
ZIFA communications manager Xolisani Gwesela explained Logarusic’s latest sejourn.
“He went to Croatia for a short leave.
“Everyone needs some time off their duties and to be with their families.
“Our coach has just gone back to Europe.
“He left on Friday night and he will be back for duty as soon as possible,” said Gwesela. – The Sunday Mail

Mai Titi Gives Police Ultimatum To Arrest Man Who Impregnated Girl(14)
PUBLIC NOTICE TO THE ZIMBABWE REPUBLIC POLICE
I note with grave concern the ongoing issue about a minor Child who died whilst giving birth in Marange area.
I am writing this statement as a mother of two beautiful daugthers, a woman, and a Zimbabwean who is particular about Child rights.
It is Edmund Burke who once noted that, “The only thing necessary for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing”. I refuse to do nothing.
This statement is a public notice to the Zimbabwe Republic Police to apprehend the suspect Evans Momberume in 24 hours of this notice.
In the event that there is no arrest in stated period, I am driving personally to Marange area and conduct a Citizen arrest against the suspect, and bring him to the nearest Police Station.
I shall be broadcasting from the location so that whole of Zimbabwe sees in real-time the events.
My heart bleeds as I hear plans to send a 9year old to replace the child who is now deceased. Whilst, we are free to pursue our own faiths, any faith and practice that endangers the welfare and security of minor children is a nuisance in our society.
We need to look out for each other, and protect our vulnerable Children.
Yours Mai Tt

Chikanga Woman Attempts Suicide Over Conjugal Rights
By A Correspondent- A Chikanga woman contemplated taking her own life after being denied c0njugal rights by her husband for over a year.
This emerged at a Mutare Civil Court where Nyarai Makuyana had dragged her husband, David Wasiwo, seeking maintenance and a protection order against him since their marriage has irretrievably broken down.
Makuyana told Mutare magistrate, Mr Mr Xavier Chipato, that it took the intervention of a stranger to stop her from committing suicide.
She said she also received counselling from her parents following her attempt to take her own life.
The couple has since separated after Wasiwo accused his wife of cheating.
He took custody of three of their four children.
However, Makuyana denied ever having an extra marital affair.
“I never cheated. The man my husband is accusing me of dating was the one who actually intervened when I was about to take my own life.
“I was really depressed as Wasiwo was denying me my conjugal rights for over a year and I wanted to take my life, but that man stopped me. I also got counselling from my parents and other concerned people after that incident,” said Makuyana.
She alleged that Wasiwo destroyed her home.
“This man destroyed the shack I was living in so that he could have custody of the children.
“After reporting him to the police, they advised me to secure accommodation first before getting the children back. His sister offered shelter for me and the children. I pray this court orders him to surrender the children back,” she said.
Makuyanaalso wants Wasiwo to pay $12 000 monthly maintenance for his family’s upkeep.
She also begged the court to bar him from harassing and assaulting her.
Wasiwo told the court that while he can afford to pay for the children’s school fees, he cannot afford to pay $12 000 every month as he is unemployed.
“I am not employed and cannot afford the amount she is asking for. I am only able to pay $2000 as well as the children’s school fees. One of the children’s fees is paid under the Basic Education Module Assistance (Beam) programme. We are also receiving food hampers worth US$70 from donors, but she sells the groceries and converts the money to her personal use.
“I do not know what she wants that the $12 000 for. I am staying with three of our four children and $2 000 should be enough for the one child in her custody,” Wasiwo argued.
However, Mr Chipato ordered him to pay $8 500 to cover school fees, while Makuyana will cater for the groceries.
He also granted the protection order in Makuyana’s favour.-manicapost

Fake Traditional Healer Vanishes With Client’s Car

Byo Man Defrauded By Fake Silo Belmont Manager
By A Correspondent- A 58 year old man from the Killarney suburb in Bulawayo allegedly lost $567 500 to a fake Silo Belmont distribution manager who had promised to sell him rice and mealie at a discount.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident and said the complainant has not recovered anything yet.
It is alleged that the accused, Bothwell Nyabani, who is on the run, called his victim on July 29 and told him to take advantage of the “special” offer and order in bulk mealie-meal at a reduced price of $350 per 10kg and $85-00 for 2kg rice.
Said Inspector Ncube:
Police in Bulawayo are investigating a case of fraud where the complainant was defrauded of $567 500 and nothing was recovered. The accused person is a male adult only known as Bothwell Nyabani who claimed to be a distribution manager from Silo Belmont, Bulawayo.
On 29 July 2021, at around 09 AM the complainant received a call on his mobile number from the accused person informing the complainant that his company, Silo Belmont was running a sales promotion for mealie-meal and rice.
Insp Ncube said the complainant was convinced and agreed to buy 10 tonnes of mealie-meal and five tonnes of rice for a total amount of $567 500.00 which was to be paid through a bank transfer to a CABS account provided by the accused person.
The complainant sent the driver to collect the order from Silo Belmont but the accused person phoned the driver whilst he was on his way informing him that the order was not yet ready.
After trying in vain, on numerous, to collect his order from Nyabani, the complainant became suspicious and proceeded to Silo Belmont where he was told that the company does not have such a worker by the name of Bothwell Nyabani.
He reported the matter to the police who are now handling the case.
Inspector Ncube urged members of the public to be cautious when dealing with such proclaimed company managers as they risk being duped of their hard-earned cash.
He emphasized the importance of insisting on having landlines to call and verify or visit the place, if possible, for due diligence.

Tribute To Kode From Mabvuku
The local football family has been robbed of yet another legend- legendary former CAPS United captain Joe ‘Kode’ Mugabe has breathed his last.

He was 53.
Kode joined the Green Machine when he was 14 years old and rose to the senior team. . Since he became part of The Green Machine he was voted as the club’s Player of the Year a record four times in 1993, 1994, 1998 and 2001.
He was part of the trailblazing CAPS class of 1996 and was a Soccer Star of the Year finalist in 1994, 1995, 1996 and 2001.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Go Well Joe Mugabe”Kode From Mabvuku”

Mutasa Man Torches In-Laws’ House Over Marriage Dispute
By A Correspondent- A bitter Mutasa man reportedly burnt down his mother’s hut and proceeded to torch his in-laws’ hut after his wife dumped him.
The bitter man reduced his close relatives’ property to ashes as he demanded a refund for his lobola.
On the same night, Manhanga also went to his in-laws homestead in the same village. He argued with his father-in-law while demanding a lobola refund and threatening to destroy their homestead if his demands were not met.
He later torched a hut at the homestead. Manhanga was arrested after a police report was made, Manica Post reports.
President Chamisa Speaks On ED Mentorship
By A Correspondent |MDC Alliance leader President Nelson Chamisa is a man of integrity and wisdom.
On Friday he outwitted Zanu PF sympathizers who attempted to persuade him to authenticate Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s biography.
The biography has already been trashed by renowned scholars.
President Chamisa says he has nothing to learn from the book…
Responding to one Tendai Mwakwara’s remarks, President Chamisa said:
He ( Mnangagwa) is not my “college”. I hope you meant colleague. He is neither of both.I learn nothing from that lot.
Reggie Munyaradzi commented:
“You will find a mentor in ED to help you mature. You really need a mature and wise mentor”
President Chamisa responded:
“Honestly, you are joking. How can I have a mentor who has an evil past and present?
We are God fearing and cannot associate with such.”

Mai Titi Issues Ultimatum On Arrest Of Suspected Marange Rapist Evans Momberume

Covid-19 Nightmare For Cash Strapped Patients
By A Correspondent- Most private hospitals offering Covid-19 treatment are turning the pandemic into an economic and psychological nightmare for patients, with some of the institutions charging admission fees of up to US$1 000 per night.

Roki, Koffi Mnangagwa Praise Song Hits 2 Million Views In One Day
By A Correspondent- Man of the moment Rockford ‘Roki’ Josphats’ has just broken his record after the recently released music video “Patati Patata” hit 2 million views in just one day.
Roki smashed his own YouTube record of 1,2 million views which he achieved with another hit song, “Uchandifunga”.
It featured the legendary Congolese soukous singer, Koffi Olomide, and Tanzanian BET award winner, Rayvanny.
Despite what others deemed ‘controversial lyrics’, Roki is riding high and conquering Africa simultaneously with this new music video.
Jerusalema Hitmaker, Master KG, and Tanzanian musician, Diamond Platnumz amongst other local artists, have since endorsed Roki’s new track. At the same time, it was also premiered on Trace Africa on the same day it was released.
After a long sabbatical from the microphone during which many had already written his music career as done and dusted, it seems the 35-year-old music legend is back to conquer the music scene just as the old days.
Critics Recycle Damning Mugabe Anti-Madhuku Video
By A Correspondent- Suspected opposition politics members are circulating a late old President Robert Mugabe’s interview, which was carried by the state broadcaster many years ago in which the late ruler was denouncing National Constitutional Assembly leader, Professor Lovemore Madhuku.
In the interview, the late President, portrays Madhuku as a greedy person who mobilises citizens, makes them demonstrate against him, get arrested before getting paid for that by the west.
During his heydays, Madhuku gave Mugabe torrid times and staged a series of successful protests against Mugabe’s powers that the late ruler used to abuse.
Madhuku would collaborate with like-minded civil society organisations, university students, and the opposition and shut down the entire nation.
The recycled video is circulating when Madhuku, one of the Political Actors Dialogue members, recently made headlines for receiving a POLAD car from the government.
As if Madhuku is the only one who got the POLAD car, his haters pretend to view the NCA leader as a sellout who is now wining and dining with Zanu PF, the party he used to denounce.
The Constitutional law expert parted ways with the opposition MDC of the late Morgan Tsvangirai in 2008 when the latter decided to form a unity government with Zanu PF.
Before parting ways, Madhuku made it clear that the unity government would destroy the country’s opposition.
He also disagreed with opposition on giving in to Zanu PF’s demands of tasking the unity government with the responsibility of writing a new constitution.
Commenting on the old circulating video, political analyst and brother to the NCA President, Claris Madhuku, on his social media platform, said those denouncing the University of Zimbabwe Law lecturer were missing the point.
Below is Claris’ opinion:
It makes Professor Madhuku a very critical player in our local politics.
He is not very ordinary in his approach, i want to argue. He is not in the class of NC. He is more irritating as a critic because of his precision.
Then( when the interview was done), he was the undisputed leader of the Civic society in terms of defiance in Zimbabwe. It reveals how irritating he was to the government of Mugabe.
The reference had very little to do with his personality or greediness but the imagery of western donor support and confrontation politics. Mugabe had problems with the west( sponsors of regime change).
MDC Alliance has not learnt from the past and continues to use the tired approach of confrontation that is budgeted from the western narrative of calling for sanctions.
Madhuku has changed tact and strategy on the basis of reading the current leadership style being applied by ED.
ED can be neutralised by ideas and by engaging. He has also neutralised the west through the same.

POLAD “Proposes” Postponing 2023 Elections
By A Correspondent- The Political Actors Dialogue (Polad) platform set up by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in 2018 yesterday exposed a serious rift in the group over whether the country should postpone the 2023 elections.
Some of its members have also poured cold water on calls by the MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora to delay the polls.
This comes after recent reports that Mwonzora approached Mnangagwa and asked him to postpone the harmonised 2023 elections on the premise that they would be costly and divisive.
Some Polad members yesterday told NewsDay that some members had a broader plan to have the elections postponed and to push Mnangagwa to incorporate them in government and Parliament.
President of the little known Republican Party of Zimbabwe, Kwanele Hlabangana, who is also a member of Polad, said such calls were dangerous and should not be entertained.
“Those people that want the 2023 elections postponed are very dangerous because elections in any country are a constitutional matter, and we don’t hold elections based on the wishes of people. We hold elections because we follow the Constitution. I don’t see any argument or debate around elections because we have a Constitution in this country,” Hlabangana said.
“What sort of a country will we be running if we just decide that there are no elections? Polad cannot have a different position to the constitutional position. The only thing we are doing as Polad is we are pushing for electoral reforms. We believe elections should not be disputed like the situation we had in 2018. We want to have free and fair elections where the winners win and we don’t want excuses. We are working on all reforms, security reforms and everything to do with the Constitution,” he said.
But other Polad members said elections were an exercise that would cost the country a lot and were divisive, hence the need to postpone them and appeal to Mnangagwa to incorporate them into government and Parliament.
“That is a more progressive move that we are pushing (Polad). We cannot be perpetually in election mode and with what we have achieved in Polad, we are in the right direction, and so that should proceed,” a Polad member, who preferred not to be named, said.
Last week, National Constitutional Assembly chairman Lovemore Madhuku said Polad was in Zimbabwe to stay as a permanent body. He said it was an important platform to push for electoral reforms.
Polad has been criticised as a Zanu PF and Mnangagwa project meant to hoodwink the international community into believing that there is unity in the country.
The grouping consists of political parties and individuals who contested and dismally lost in the July 2018 elections. Some 19 Polad principals last week received brand new vehicles from Mnangagwa.
They were also pampered with diplomatic passports, and are currently waiting to be allocated farms by government.

Gumbura’s Death Exposes Zimimbabwe’s Poor Prison Conditions
By A Correspondent- The death of the incarcerated Robert Martin Gumbura yesterday has exposed the government’s unpreparedness to protect inmates from health hazards.
Gumbura died from Covid-19 on his way to the hospital from Chikurubi Maximum Prison.
He contracted Covid-19 from his detention cells.
Chikurubi maximum security Prison has become a hot spot for covid 19.
A psychiatric section with 400 psychiatric inmates 257 tested positive to covid 19 during the week, ZimEye can reveal.
The situation has forced the authorities to introduce forced vaccination and testing to officers. No one can enter Chikurubi maximum security Prison gates without a vaccination card and testing certificate.
There has been no running water at the prison complex for two weeks now, forcing the infection rate to surge.
Both officers and inmates are fetching water from unprotected wells.
The development also comes when the prison facility has gone for more than four months without cooking oil for prisoners’ food.

EXCLUSIVE: How Gumbura Ran Out Of Luck At The Last Minute
By A Correspondent | The following story narrates how the late jailed preacher Robert Martin Gumbura Ran out of both luck and life as he was to be released from prison this year.
Gumbura’s Lawyer, Lovemore Madhuku tells ZimEye the man was set to be released this year, meaning his sentence of 40 years was being cut down.

Gumbura died today and it was reported that he died due to COVID-19.
The ZANU PF card carrying member, was fighting his conviction for rape passed 7 years ago.
For years he maintained that he was innocent.
Speaking to ZimEye, Prof Madhuku said after getting bail pending appeal, his chances of getting bail were now very high, adding that this was to happen this year.
Below is an exclusive interview with the late preacher’s lawyer Lovemore Madhuku on Saturday evening. Prof Madhuku spoke to ZimEye’s Simba Chikanza.
Madhuku: It’s a very devastating death I am quite sad about it I am still not aware of what exactly happened, because I just got the news; I am out of Harare. I am still to check what happened.
Qu: So you are not aware of these reports that say he died because of covid?
Madhuku: that’s what I just got but that’s only come out at the same time as the news of his death. but we never got to know about the fact that it was because of covid-19.
Qu: when was he due to be released?
Madhuku: yes we had actually succeeded in getting his yes and sentence reduced from the sentence of 40 years to any effective sentence of 20 years and he had served a substantial portion of it.
We had also obtained relief for him to appeal, he had actually filed an appeal and we were now in the process of wanting to get bail pending appeal.
Qu: so that would mean that he would be released this year then?
Madhuku: I missed what you said. What I can tell you is that…
Qu: He was likely to be released this year, then, most likely?
Madhuku: Yes I think we were going to get something like that. Because after Kereke got bail pending appeal, his chances of getting bail were also very high, now.
Qu: Do you know enough about the conditions of the prisons?
Madhuku: under this current COVID situation they are really bad conditions there. I think the death really shows that something has to be done about the conditions, I think they have to improve; we have to attend; that death sends a message about the conditions.
