By Jane Mlambo| Controversial Norton legislator Temba Mliswa and journalist Hopewell Chin’ono who early this week engaged in a rough exchange of words have made peace after meeting at the Harare Magistrates Court today.
Mliswa accused Chin’ono of engaging in debt card fraud while in the United Kingdom before question his source of wealth.
On the other hand, Chin’ono accused Mliswa of hobnobbing with corrupt people including Kudakwashe Tagwirei.
But all that is now water under the bridge after they met at the court today with Chin’ono posting a video while shaking hands, while Mliswa posted that they have have a lot in common as they are both facing persecution from the state.
Mliswa and Chin’ono
“Bumped into @daddyhope at the court today and the engagement revealed one notable fact. We are both victims of persecution. We spoke as gentleman and indeed I look forward to the next chapter. @daddyhope continue what you do best and I also focus on my area,” said Mliswa.
Singer Kelly Khumalo skipped her appearance at the grand reopening of Garwe Restaurant in Harare, Zimbabwe on Thursday, in solidarity with media personality Somizi Mhlongo, following a controversial move to block Mhlongo’s entry into the country.
The restaurant enlisted the services of the Empini hitmaker after Mhlongo was refused entry into Zimbabwe by officials, in what has been deemed a “homophobic move” by a church organisation, which wrote to authorities requesting that the Idols judge not be granted entry into the country because he was gay.
After appearing on social media posters anticipating her replacement for her popular friend, Khumalo was a no-show at the event.
Khumalo did not comment on the matter, but Zimbabwe-based fans of the star took to her Instagram page to commend her for the move.
“Thank you Kelly for not showing up at Garwe reopening. On behalf of all Zimbabweans in solidarity with Somgaga we love you,” Instagram user Tanyas Events wrote.
Tatenda MD wrote:
Well done Kelly Khumalo for not pitching up to Zimbabwe.
A Zimbabwean church group with a fellowship of about nine million congregants wrote to government requesting that Mhlongo be barred from entering the country because of his sexual orientation.
In a letter written on November 1 and addressed to the office of the president and Cabinet, the ministries if information and publicity and foreign affairs, and to the ruling Zanu (PF), the Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe said it was “strongly against’’ Mhlongo’s entry into the country. “We represent indigenous churches in Zimbabwe and are strongly rooted to our culture and support our revolutionary party. It is after we saw an article in our leading paper Sunday Mail, October 31 edition, that a South African well known gay, Somizi Mhlongo is coming to Zimbabwe to grace the reopening of Garwe Restaurant on November 4 2021. The church is strongly against such an event in the sense that Somizi is a homosexual .
“According to our peoples’ driven Constitution, Zimbabwe does not tolerate homosexuality.’’
The church group went on to say:
If we allow Somizi to come to our land, spiritually we would have been disturbed a lot, and physically we would have openly accepted homosexuality in Zimbabwe.
Somizi’s visit to Zimbabwe, the church alleges, would even affect the country’s 2023 election and may result in Zanu (PF) failing to win a majority as people will be offended by the government giving permission for his visit.
“After reading the Sunday Mail article, our congregation felt that they were being violated. We stand firm and say to you we don’t support Somizi’s visit to Zimbabwe,’’ wrote the church group in their letter.
The church is a body of 600 indigenous Apostolic and Zionist churches and was launched in 2010 with the mandate of protecting the interests of local indigenous churches.
It is strongly aligned to the ruling Zanu (PF) party.
Mhlongo took to his Instagram to address the matter and said he was informed that he was barred from entering the country through media inquiries on Wednesday. He said:
I did not know what the whole story was, but the truth of the matter is there are people who did not want me to come to Zimbabwe based on my sexuality and they have made it clear.
Mhlongo added that this was not the first time something like this has happened to him.
“I am used to it. I am okay with it, but I am not okay at the same time because I could easily say I do not care. I live in a country where I am free to be me, it does not affect me because I do not need to go anywhere else. I am safe in my own country.” he said.
Mhlongo was immediately booked for another event in Namibia on the same night.
“What is sad is that them not wanting me to come to their country because I am gay will not change anything with regards to people being gay. I am not the reason people are homosexual. I might be the reason people feel bolder to be homosexual because I am proud of being homosexual.”
I would like to set the record straight here on the malicious& half-baked yellow story by @HeraldZimbabwe . Janet Tamangani& I have known each other since our parents were friends. They were both in Zambia. We lived in Waterfalls together& both of us went to Lord Malvern.
At some point I even assisted her to go to the UK. I have always been a person with whom she talks candidly. We have also done business together because she is a sharp business person. We have been that close. I’m an uncle to their kids and we know each other very well.
I have known about problems in their marriage for years and it’s a travesty of truth to allege that I caused the problems. The husband has always been a no-gooder, whose life revolves around sitting around, going to the gym and nothing else.
He used to draw money clandestinely from their accounts. He has always abused her, beat her up and I have previously told Janet to take the kids to boarding school so as to avoid the toxic atmosphere at home.
I advised about them about Rydings school where my own kids go to so that I could also assist when they couldn’t. When she was beaten this time I advised her to go and report to the police. That is the reason her husband is angry at me. He is a wife beater, lazy and useless.
That she came to my place with her kids after being baten is nothing unusual because I’m like her big brother. I told the husband that if he followed her to my place I would deal with him as a man. As can been seen in the video he is violent.
That video of him grabbing her was after beating her. He went on to beat the kids for taking the videos also. He has a problem. She actually has a protection order against him because of his violent behaviour. https://t.co/kvozuHKJBh
For ten years their bedroom has been closed because he has an erection problem. The reason is that he went out with many girlfriends until one of them concocted some juju on him. Now he has an erection problem. Is that my problem? https://t.co/W7J24NVI6p
Even if she were to get involved with someone else can she be blamed? He is all about suits, keeping a long beard and nothing in the bedroom. Ndiyani mkadzi anogarira sadza? Even if she were to go out with someone can she be blamed?
For him to soil me like this he will have to provide evidence or I will sue him. He has failed himself. I have actually worked hard supporting him to keep the marriage but divorce began in 2018. The marriage has been done for years.
At one point I sat with them& tried to make things work but it failed. He sees me as the one who failed their marriage only because I have supported his wife. Ndakatomuchengetera mkadzi from makoronyera thinking he would thank me but he has failed now ndotosiyawo atorwe nevamwe.
I have always been clear about whom I date. I don’t date people’s wives. They have long had problems& it’s his lack of introspection& maturity that he would blame an outsider for this. I’m self-respecting enough to know my friends from those I date. Janet is a friend. https://t.co/fFaIEegrnO

It’s a dire indictment of how the media standards at the @HeraldZimbabwe have fallen that such a paper, expected to be the standard-bearer in the industry, carries such trash as stories.

Zimbabwe face South Africa at FNB Stadium on 11 November before hosting Ethiopia three days later at the National Sports Stadium in Harare.

Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition has noted with great concern, plans by the government to restrict freedom of speech and expression through the deployment of a cyber team to monitor citizens on social media.
On November 4, 2021, Information Minister, Monica Mutsvangwa announced that the government had set up a cyber team to “monitor what people send and receive”.
The announcement comes at a time the Cyber Security and Data Protection Bill which passed through the Senate in July 2021 is awaiting Presidential assent. Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition is on record criticizing the proposed law for seeking to snoop on citizens thereby violating the right to privacy, freedom of speech as well as access to information.
The recent move by the government to set up a cyber security team to monitor citizens on social media amounts to invasion of privacy and is basically meant to instill fear in the public while limiting freedom of speech and expression.
Minister Mutsvangwa’s sentiments that the move does not amount to regulation of social media are simply meant to cover up for the government’s real motive to limit fundamental freedoms and clampdown on dissenting voices.
Over the years, human rights defenders, journalists and opposition activists have been victimized based on their posts on social media and the latest move by the government will only serve to further fuel victimization of dissenting voices.
We note with concern that the ruling party, Zanu PF continues to use harsh cyber laws to entrench political power while at the same time coming up with a raft of measures to restrict free speech, right of privacy and access to information.
Massive surveillance by the government will certainly infringe on fundamental human rights and lead to an upsurge in cases of clampdowns on pro-democracy activists.
We are concerned that the move by the government lacks a pro-human rights approach and is essentially meant to entrench political power through snooping on citizens and clamping down on dissenting voices.
The move is thus part of efforts by the government to further shrink the democratic space and violate citizens’ fundamental rights.
Social media has proved to be an effective tool in exposing rights abuses as well as corruption and the government’s recent move must be seen as an attempt to instill fear and silence whistleblowers.
We implore Zanu PF to draw lessons from the pre-independence pledge by the then party’s Spokesperson, Edson Zvobgo who said, “…we do not want to recreate Rhodesia where citizens get petrified in fear of the State…”.
Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition is perturbed by the fact that present day Zanu PF is preoccupied with power retention (at all costs) even without legitimacy.
Given the government’s bad human rights record and cases of victimization of activists based on their posts on social media, we reiterate the need for a truly independent body to monitor activities on social media rather than making it the sole responsibility of the government.
By A Correspondent- Ten (10) learners at Chemhanza Secondary School in Hwedza District were expelled this week for alleged mischief in a hostel. The learners consist of five boys and five girls.
The five boys sneaked into the girls’ dormitories at night to meet with their female counterparts and were trapped by the school’s matron Rijaina Ndhlamini.
Chemhanza Secondary School principal Saul Tadzaushe confirmed the development, saying all the 10 pupils will now seat for their final Ordinary Level examinations as external candidates.
The principal said the behaviour of the errant learners had gone out of hand, which prompted authorities at the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe-run school to send them home. Said Tadzaushe:
Some of these students got mischievous and we got the rumour about their conduct and our security led by Mutangadura set up a trap.
Through the security, we heard that there were boys who were cutting the school security fence to gain access into the girls’ dormitories at night where they were finally trapped.
The security team called their boss Mutangadura and the Chemhanza High School Matron (Rijaina Ndhlamini) who locked them in.
We then informed the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and the Ministry gave us a letter authorising us to dismiss them from Chemhanza Mission School as our boarding students.
Tadzaushe stressed that the 10 pupils were not caught engaging in sexual intercourse. He said:
No, they did not have sexual intercourse because there were security personnel keeping an eye on them from all corners.
They did not have sex, they were just continuously hugging each other in that one room, ukaona mwana anosvika pakuita sexual intercourse, ibhinya (pupils normally won’t indulge in sexual intercourse unless they are rapists).
By A Correspondent- The Gweru man who on Tuesday killed his wife and two children collapsed and died at the magistrates’ courts while waiting for initial remand.
Leo Kanyimo (38) allegedly went into a trance on Tuesday afternoon and axed his wife and two children to death.
Police had to be assisted by members of the public to arrest Kanyimo who had just turned violent while speaking in an unknown language.
Midlands provincial prosecutor Mr Samuel Pedzisayi confirmed the death of Kanyimo while he was in the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services holding cells.
“The murder accused from Woodlands suburb Leo Kanyimo collapsed and died while in prison holding cells. He had been brought to court by the police and because of his extreme violent nature, he was put in the holding cells while his record was being opened,” said Mr Pedzisayi.
He said after the prosecution opened his record and while waiting for a magistrate – prison officers alerted the prosecutors that the suspect had collapsed and died.

By A Correspondent- A 22 year old Brazilian national who was convicted for dealing in dangerous drugs on Monday has been sentenced to 10 years in jail.
Guilherme Sodre Alvernaz DA Silveria, who was found in possession of more than 4 kilogrammes of cocaine worth over ZWL$30 million, was slapped with a ten-year jail term on Tuesday.
In passing the sentence, Harare magistrate, Ignatio Mhene, said the convict deserved the maximum sentence as cocaine is a dangerous drug that is detrimental to people’s health.
The magistrate added that the stiff penalty will send a message to other drug dealers that Zimbabwe is a no go area.
Da Silveria from Sao Paulo in Brazil was arrested on 7 April on landing at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport aboard an Ethiopian Airways flight.
He was found in possession of 4.3kg of cocaine with an estimated street value of more than ZWL$30 million.
Da Silveria was intercepted by a team comprising of detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics Harare, Canine Harare, CID Homicide Harare and CID Law and Order Harare.
The law enforcement agents conducted searches in his luggage, leading to the seizure of a whitish powder that was wrapped in silver foil paper stashed in the lining of the accused’s black jacket.
Preliminary field tests were done on the powder in the presence of Da Silveria and it tested positive for cocaine.
He becomes the second foreigner to be jailed in two months for illegally dealing in dangerous drugs after a South African woman was jailed for 12 years.-statemedia
By A Correspondent- Lupane State University (LSU) vice-chancellor (VC) Pardon Kuipa has been accused of se_xually abusing female employees at the institution, resulting in a protest march against him on Tuesday.
The protesting women under the banner, Umama Wesizwe sikaMthwakazi, petitioned the LSU registrar to launch a probe into reports of se_xual abuse and harassment of women by Kuipa.
LSU registrar Jairos Makunde declined to comment and referred Southern Eye to the university spokesperson Zwelithini Dlamini who confirmed the charges against Kuipa.
Dlamini said: “From the brief that l just received, l confirm that a group of women visited the registrar and presented a petition to him.
“The position of the university is that intensive sensitisation of both staff and students should be carried out so that people are adequately informed about se_xual harassment issues.
“Management has, therefore, engaged the Gender Commission to conduct workshops.”
Kuipa was appointed vice-chancellor in 2015.
Part of the petition against him read: “We have concerns of alleged se_xual harassment of women at LSU by the VC. We, therefore, demand that in the interest of justice and the fulfilment of the right to administrative justice espoused in section 68 of the Constitution, the case be investigated and the accused charged accordingly.”
“Our concern is that according to news on June 22, 2021, it was reported that a se_xual harassment scandal has rocked LSU where a female staff member accused the VC of se_xually harassing and victimising her for turning down his advances. No action has been taken against the perpetrator.”
The women said charges against Kuipa were serious as they violated fundamental rights and privileges of women as human beings as stipulated in the Constitution.
“In light of this provision, section 65 confers labour rights on every person and refers to harassment as constituting a violation of the constitutionally protected right to fair labour standards and also violates the right to full and equal dignity.
“The right to fair and safe labour standards is realised under the provisions of the Labour Act (Chapter 28:01) whose primary purpose is regulation of the employer-employee relationship.
“The Act narrowly defines sexual harassment through inference from section 8(h) which provides for unfair labour practices, such as engaging in unwelcome sexually determined behaviour towards an employee, whether verbal or otherwise, such as making physical contact or advances.”-Newsday
By A Correspondent- The Government has announced new guidelines for A2 land permit holders which must be followed to avoid repossession of the farms.
These include the need for the permit holder to settle on the land within 30 days and to have a full-time farm manager on-site within three months.
This was revealed by the acting lands development acting director in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement Cephas Magauze.
He was addressing senior lands officers from across the country attending a workshop on land management and distribution in Gweru on Monday.
He said:
There are conditions attached to the land permit. The permit holder must take up permanent residence within 30 days, the permit holder must appoint a manager to take up permanent residence in three months.
The permit holder must undertake to initiate development in accordance with the five-year development plan.
So, there are rules of engagement of which if they are breached, the farm will be forfeited by the State.
He said the permit holder shall not sublet or subdivide part of the land without written consent from the lands minister.
In case there is room for a joint venture, the permit holder must also seek consent from the Minister.
Said Magaudze:
Converting agricultural land to residential stands or other business should be done with permission from the Minister.
Poaching of wild animals is prohibited because farming is not hunting and hunting is not farming.
The natural resources on that land be it trees must be protected and no wanton cutting down of trees will be permitted.
The Minister can cancel the permit if any of the conditions are breached by the permit holder.
Magaudze said if the permit holder fails to produce anything in two successive agriculture seasons, the permit will be cancelled.
He said:
So, there is no room for holding on the land for speculative purposes or showboating. It is tantamount to failing to utilise the land and this leads to cancellation of the permit.
Magaudze also said a new permit with improved security features is now being issued to farmers to further curtail illegal land allocations.
He said:
We have introduced new securitised land permits for the A2 model settlement permit. It now has security features so that there is no room for manipulation of the permit.
There is a fidelity seal and serial number with special reflective ink, security feature embedded on the permit, underground micro text at the back, the Minister has to sign the permit and there is also a long serial number and a hologram seal.
The more securitised land offer permit is an effort to flush out corruption in the land redistribution programme which is reversing the gains of the land reform program.
By A Correspondent- Government has bemoaned the rise in robbery cases across the country and urged the police force to reduce crime, which it blames for scaring away foreign investment in the country.
Home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe said this during a Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) senior officer conference held in Harare yesterday.
He said crimes such as armed robberies derailed government efforts in luring foreign direct investment because they portrayed the country as an unsafe investment destination.
“I, therefore, call upon you to redouble your efforts and summon all your operational ingenuity to come up with policing initiatives to curb the rise in crime,” Kazembe said.
“The fear of crime, especially of violent crimes, keeps citizens apprehensive and stifles business growth.
“It is also a fact that modern policing increasingly operates under public scrutiny and this calls for enhanced accountability.”
Kazembe added:
“It is government expectation that as police, you continue to foster peace and stability which are the key drivers to economic growth.
“As government, it is our expectation that your broad objectives and key deliverables which are aligned to key national policy instruments such as the National Development Strategy 1 are achieved.
“Admittedly, these conferences are one such useful way for you as police commanders to reset the compass, determine if the organisation is still on course, observe mere deviations and make adjustments where necessary.”
Kazembe said his ministry would continue to lobby government for increased support for the police and to resource the ZRP.
Speaking at the same event, Police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga said their goal as an organisation was to combat crime.
“Our performance as an organisation is measured against our ability to tame the tide of criminality. It is my expectation that you shall come up with cogent strategies aimed at combating crime,” he said.
“The policing terrain is a rugged endeavour which needs collective efforts and continuous cross-pollination of ideas so as to navigate pitfalls that litter the field.”-Newsday

By A Correspondent- Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) activist Partone Xaba was on Monday remanded to December 9 by Bulawayo magistrate Rachel Mukanga, in a case where he faces public violence and theft charges.
This was after Xaba’s lawyer Dumisani Dube failed to attend court due to other commitments.
Xaba is facing charges of public violence, and breaching of peace or bigotry following his arrest after protesting against police conduct in April.
He is one of the nine activists who were arrested during the protest outside Bulawayo Central Police Station, accusing the police of harassing their leader Mqondisi Moyo.
The demo followed a midnight raid by the police at Moyo’s house in what MRP claimed was an attempt to abduct him.
Xaba also faces a charge of stealing US$15 000 belonging to Floyd Ambrose during an attempt by MRP activists to evict him from Tabas Induna Farm.
At the time, Ambrose was embroiled in a wrangle with white former commercial farmer Brian Davies over control of the property. Xaba denies the charges and is out of custody on $20 000 bail.-Newsday
By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Republic Police are investigating a case in which a grade one pupil kicked a fellow schoolmate in the face, who died a few days later in suspected complications emanating from the incident.
The incident happened at Tokwane Ngundu Primary School in Chivi on October 15 at around 10am whilst playing at break-time.
Tawanda Dhohwai (12) died five days later on October 20 after his health started to deteriorate since the incident happened.
Masvingo provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident and revealed that the case was under investigation.
“I can confirm the incident but the matter is still under investigation. We are still waiting for postmortem results that will confirm the actual cause of death. No charges have been laid yet”, said Dhewa.
Circumstances are that on October 15, 2021, the two boys were playing a kicking game during break time when the grade one pupil kicked Tawanda in the face, after which he fell on the ground and started to bleed.
It is reported that Tawanda was later sent home on the same day by his teacher who had noticed that he was sulky and looked ill.
The teacher had noticed unusual actions from Tawanda and asked him what was wrong before he narrated his ordeal.
At home, his aunt Remika Mutariri (76) who he stayed with, took him to Chisase Clinic and was deferred to Chiredzi General Hospital where he was given medication and got discharged.
Tawanda’s condition continued to deteriorate and he died the same day at around 8pm at his aunt’s homestead.
Sources close to the deceased’s family however say Tawanda already had some health related complications.
“This child already had other health complications and it will be unfair to blame the other kid. He might have triggered the death but I don’t think a nine-year-old is capable to kick someone to death,” said the source.
Tawanda’s brother John Dhohwai said they will not pursue the incident any further since the two boys were friends.
“The two boys were friends, it is unfortunate that my young brother sustained an injury during that time but the boys were playing and we will not blame him for Tawanda’s death,” said John.

By A Correspondent- Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has advised residents that there have been disruptions in water supply following an emergency shutdown by the City Council due to power outages. In a statement this Thursday, Bulawayo Town Clerk, Christopher Dube said the shutdown will persist until power is restored. The statement read: The City of Bulawayo would like to advise members of the public that there will be an emergency shutdown of water supplies to all residential areas in the City except for Industry and the Central Business District. The interruption is due to power outages experienced from yesterday (Wednesday, 3 November 2021) up to today at Ncema Treatment Works and Fernhill Booster Station that resulted in the loss of treatment and pumping. This has resulted in low reservoir levels across the city. Further to that, there was a loss of pumping due to a power outage at the Rochester pump station in Nyamandlovu resulting in a lack of pumping from the Aquifer. The shutdown will be maintained until the restoration of power supply and pumping to enable treatment and to allow for the supply reservoirs to gain to satisfactory levels. The City wishes to further advise that there will be a disruption to the water-shedding programme for areas supplied by the Tuli, Rifle Range and Hillside Reservoirs. The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission Distribution Company is already on the ground investigating the cause of the outage and low voltage and are working towards the restoration of supplies. Residents are further advised to conserve water accordingly and ensure that taps remain turned off in case of earlier re-supply. Bulawayo City Council wishes to apologise to its valued consumers for any inconvenience caused.
By A Correspondent- Prominent Bulawayo medical doctor and National University of Science and Technology (Nust) lecturer Muriel Fallala died yesterday after she lost control of her vehicle near Ascot race course while driving to the city’s centre to attend to a critical patient.
She lost control of her Mitsubishi SUV while driving along 12th Avenue extension.
The vehicle veered off the road, overturned and hit a precast wall at Old Miltonians Club.
A specialist family practitioner, Dr Fallala died on the spot while rushing to save another life at about 3PM.
Dr Fallala, lauded by her colleagues for her service to Bulawayo, was alone in the car when the accident occurred.
When a Chronicle news crew arrived at the scene, scores of motorists had stopped on the side of the road trying to understand how the crash had happened.
Her colleague who rushed to the scene was traumatised by the incident and had to be rushed to a local hospital.
Dr Fallala’s body was taken to a local mortuary by police.
Acting Bulawayo Chief Fire Officer Mr Linos Phiri said Dr Fallala could have been speeding.
“We are told that she was rushing to the city centre to attend to a critical patient at Galen House. She lost control of her vehicle and it rolled and hit a precast wall. She died on the spot,” said Mr Phiri.
Doctors in Bulawayo said Dr Fallala’s sudden death was sad for the medical fraternity and the city considering her immense contributions to the community.
Mpilo acting chief executive officer Professor Solwayo Ngwenya could hardly speak as he expressed his devastation following her death.
“For me it’s a personal loss, I’ve known Dr Fallala for a long time. This afternoon at 1.30PM we were together at the Royal Clinic. She had come there to see a patient and we were talking medicine and all that little did I know that she was coming to say goodbye. I’m really devastated. She is someone who had done so much for the community, for the people of Bulawayo and people of Zimbabwe. She worked tirelessly over the years to provide emergency services and deliver so many babies safely. She was still young and strong, this is a sad day for me,” said Prof Ngwenya,
Dr Fallala was a Medical and Dental Council of Zimbabwe councillor and an administrator at Galen House.
Zimbabwe Medical Association president Dr Francis Chiwora said Dr Fallala was a dedicated cadre who did not just treat patients, but also imparted knowledge to up-and-coming doctors.
The vehicle in which Dr Muriel Fallala died after the car overturned along 12th Avenue in Bulawayo yesterday
“She was a senior medical practitioner and also a senior lecturer at Nust. She had worked in Bulawayo for over 30 years. She was a very dedicated medical practitioner. We are shocked to hear about her passing on. We have lost a dedicated cadre to our profession. She was general practitioner, a family practitioner based at Galen House,” said Dr Chiwora.
“She had also specialised on what is called specialist family practitioner which is a new specialist field which started being practised in the country in the last four to six years. She was one of the few practitioners who had qualified as a specialist family practitioner. She immediately embarked on training others to join the specialist field.”
Nust communication and marketing director Mr Thabani Mpofu said Dr Fallala’s death is not just a loss to her family but the nation at large.
“The Nust community is in shock and at a loss for words over the passing away of Dr Muriel Selma Fallala in a car accident this afternoon. Dr Fallala, a Specialist Family Physician, was the Co-ordinator of the Masters in Family Medicine programme under the Department of Community Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine. She joined Nust three years ago at a time when the Faculty of Medicine was introducing new specialised postgraduate degree programmes,” said Mr Mpofu.
“She brought vast experience and expertise gained from her long-service in the medical field. Many know her as one of the leading doctors at the Galen House Emergency Clinic. Her death is a huge blow to Nust and the nation at large.
We have lost an experienced medical doctor, academic and administrator. We mourn with the Fallala family during these difficult times.”
Dr Fallala trained at Stellenbosch University in South Africa and Second Medical University in Moscow, Russia.
She was the past president of the College of Primary Care Physicians Zimbabwe and was a member of the World Organization of Family Doctors.-statemedia
By A Correspondent- A South African man died over the weekend after he was brutally beaten to death by security guards at a bank. The now-deceased was allegedly brutally assaulted by the guards after he accused Capitec Bank of stealing his money.
According to his family, Nhlakanipho Gumede (29) went to the Capitec bank in Tongaat on Saturday to inquire about R500, which had gone missing.
His brother, Jan Gumede, said Nhlakanipho was worried that the money had been stolen and did not wish his family to think he had pocketed the money for himself.
Gumede told the North Coast Courier,
“He deposited R1 000 for our family in Ngwavuma, but they only received R500, so he went back there to ask about that. He was told that he must return on Tuesday because the person who had assisted him was off duty. He asked the manager to give a written confirmation that it was the bank’s fault. That’s when an argument broke out between him and the manager.”
Unfortunately, the argument with the bank manager got heated, and the latter called the bank security guards. The guards allegedly brutally assaulted the young upcoming musician and dumped him outside the bank.
“He was left lying on the side of the road, bleeding, and no ambulance was called. I was called by people who know me. I was at work, but I had to rush there. When I got there, my brothers had already taken him to the clinic, where he was transferred to the hospital. He died on Sunday morning.”
One of the security guards has since been arrested in connection to Nhlakanipho’s death. Police spokesperson captain Nqobile Gwala said
“A 40-year-old man was arrested for murder. He is expected to appear in the Verulam Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.”
The spokesperson for Capitec Bank, Chandré Matlala, expressed shock at the death and said the bank does not condone violence.
“The security guard in question has been arrested, and we are working closely with the South African Police Service to further investigate the incident. We are also in direct contact with Mr Gumede’s family during this difficult time. We do not condone the use of violence in any form or behaviour that goes against our company values. We have offered counselling to our staff and clients who were there and experienced the event,” said Matlala.

Tamangani is denying ever bashing Janet claiming that her relationship with Mliswa was causing mayhem in his family.
Tamangani told the court that Janet relocated to Mliswa’s house for three months before she came back home trying to evict him with a peace order.
Tamangani also claimed that he was in possession of Janet’s pictures with Mliswa.
He further submitted that he reported her to the police after she stole US$1, 5 million from a safe.
Tamangani told the court that Janet’s medical affidavit was doctored as he did not hit her.
The court heard that on June 7, the complainant arrived home from an outing in the company of her four children and discovered that the bedroom was locked when she tried to enter.
It is alleged that upon asking for the keys from Tamangani, a misunderstanding ensued.

By A Correspondent- Bulawayo residents and the government have mourned the death of Dr Muriella Fallala.
Dr Fellala was also a freedom fighter who joined the country’s liberation war and was sent to study medicine in Russia to save in independent Zimbabwe. She was 69. Dr Fallala died after her vehicle overturned while driving to the city centre on Wednesday as she was coming from her home in Ilanda suburb, rushing to Galen House to attend to a patient. Described as an iron lady of uncompromising character, Dr Fallala, served Bulawayo for nearly 40 years in the medical field.
She started practicing as a doctor at Mpilo Central Hospital in 1982 upon returning home from the Soviet Union where she was deployed to train as a doctor after joining the liberation struggle in 1976. While some freedom fighters were engaged on the frontline, others like her were sent to learn in friendly nations where they were equipped with skills to run an independent Zimbabwe. Dr Fallala, who trained at the Second Medical University in Moscow between 1976 and 1981, is among the skilled personnel who served the country when there were still a few trained black doctors operating in the country. Bulawayo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Judith Ncube said the province had been left exposed following Dr Fallala’s demise.
“Dr Fallala was committed to giving quality service to the people of Zimbabwe and more so to Bulawayo residents. She loved people and we are hurt with her death. It has shocked us, sometimes we find solace when someone dies after falling ill. But her sudden death due to an accident is more painful as it traumatises us who are left behind. We are left with questions we cannot answer,” said Minister Ncube. “We mourn with the Fallala family, Bulawayo residents and the nation at large. We also mourn with freedom fighters at the loss of their compatriot. She participated in the liberation struggle and was dedicated to fighting injustices hence the reason she joined the liberation struggle. She fought for equal opportunities and through her service she aimed to provide equal opportunities for all.” The Minister said she was in consultations with relevant institutions for Dr Fallala to be accorded due recognition for her works and service to the Bulawayo community. “I’m in consultation with others at the moment. I can’t comment on what exactly we are doing but we are pushing for her recognition because her works already speak for herself. Automatically because she is a war veteran, she is being recognised as a heroine. But we are pushing that she gets recommended for a certain status,” said the Minister. Bulawayo Provincial Medical Director Dr Maphios Siamuchembu said Dr Fallala’s death was a big loss for the province following her long service to the community.
“She was the pioneer of the family medicine practice specialty and she was teaching that at the National University of Science and Technology (Nust) medical school. She has served the community of Bulawayo for many decades; a lot of people have been her patients and she has served humanity with determination and humility. A lot of people have had to learn something from her and doctors had continued to learn something from her,” said Dr Siamuchembu, “She was a great asset to the province and the people of Bulawayo. We are really saddened that she had to depart suddenly under the circumstances that she has departed. We mourn together with her family. May it be comforted by the Lord.” Her subordinates at Galen House said they were devastated by her death. A sombre atmosphere engulfed the medical institution yesterday, although it continued to provide services to patients. Galen House administrator Ms Nothando Dube said by attending to patients, they were doing exactly what Dr Fallala would have wanted to do. She said they will continue to carry on with her legacy describing her as an iron lady who never hesitated to speak her mind. Ms Dube said it was worrying that Dr Fallala died within two years after her other partners Dr Nicholas Ndebele and Dr Gary Ferguson had also died.
“We are really at a loss following the death of Dr Fallala in a tragic accident on November 3. Dr Fallala was a mother to all of us. She was the senior personnel here. She had so much passion for her work. I think from 2015 she had not gone on leave; that shows so much passion about the place and she wanted to maintain the legacy of Galen House after the death of Dr Ndebele and Dr Ferguson,” said Ms Dube. “She wanted the Bulawayo community to get all the services that she could offer. Just in October she was running a cancer awareness campaign and captured a lot of women and some men that had the condition and assisted them. She has stood by almost all the staff members, each and everyone one of us. She was very principled and she did not want things that would go haywire.” She said Dr Fallala was a very private person but from time to time she would open up a bit about her life including that she did her secondary education in Kenya. She said Dr Fallala would also tell them that she joined the liberation struggle and that is how she ended up in Moscow. Ms Dube said while Dr Fallala was very private her works impacted a lot of people. “She has really contributed to the development of the community. She would talk about political issues although she would not delve much into details. But she was passionate about the country, she worked very hard for the development of Zimbabwe. We are really at a loss. It was a shock and we are passing our condolences to the family.
We wish we could continue with her legacy as she did following the passing on of her other partners Dr Ferguson and Dr Ndebele,” she said. When a Chronicle news crew visited Dr Fallala’s home in Ilanda suburb yesterday, the family said they will only be able to comment on her death today as they were still waiting for other relatives who are outside the country. As the news of Dr Fallala’s death swept across the city, scores of city’s residents took to social media platforms to pay tribute to Dr Fallala outlining how she changed their lives. Others spoke about how she delivered their babies while others narrated how she saved their lives. Dr Fallala had a long career which started at Mpilo Central Hospital in 1981 before she was appointed an obstetrician and gynecologist at the same hospital in 1983 and served until 1989. She then moved to the Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council where she served as medical officer for the southern region from 1989 until 1992.
In 1992 she joined Galen House as a general practitioner and in 2014 she did further studies to become a Specialist Family Practitioner. She joined Nust in 2018 where she served as family physician practitioner. Dr Fallala was part of several medical professional bodies including Zimbabwe Medical Association (ZiMA), College of Primary Care Physicians of Zimbabwe, World Organisation of Family Doctors. She was also a councillor at Gwanda State University.

The landlady Vonile Moyo (50) was briefly detained at Masvingo Provincial Hospital after sustaining injuries.
The duo was sentenced to 10 months each in prison by magistrate Patience Madondo when they appeared before her on October 9 2021.

The state media reports that the Council has issued the owners with 21-day notices for appropriate measures to be taken or face the demolition of the structures.
BCC has in the past couple of months been on an exercise of identifying some of these illegal structures in the city and in its latest report, it said it identified 17 structures in Selbourne Park and one in Hillcrest built illegally.
The list also includes a property owned by Ward 14 councillor, MacDonald Chunga in Selbourne Park. The report reads in part:

WHO is kicking off the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030 today in Geneva, with the ambitious target of preventing at least 50% of road traffic deaths and injuries by 2030. WHO and the UN regional commissions, in cooperation with other partners in the UN Road Safety Collaboration, have developed a Global Plan for the Decade of Action, which is released today.
Globally, over 3500 people die every day on the roads, which amounts to nearly 1.3 million preventable deaths and an estimated 50 million injuries each year – making it the leading killer of children and young people worldwide. As things stand, they are set to cause a further estimated 13 million deaths and 500 million injuries during the next decade, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. These unacceptable numbers, both in absolute and relative terms. Road traffic crashes have remained a major cause of death globally, even though every one of those deaths and injuries is preventable.
“The loss of lives and livelihoods, the disabilities caused, the grief and pain, and the financial costs caused by road traffic crashes add up to an intolerable toll on families, communities, societies and health systems,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, “So much of this suffering is preventable, by making roads and vehicles safer, and by promoting safe walking, cycling and greater use of public transport. The Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety lays out the practical, evidence-based steps all countries and communities can take to save lives.”
Recognizing the importance of the problem and the need to act, governments from around the world declared unanimously – through UN General Assembly Resolution 74/299 – the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030 with the explicit target to reduce road traffic deaths and injuries by at least 50% during that period.
“One of the best ways to save and improve lives is to make our streets safer — but that work often doesn’t get the attention it deserves,” said Michael R. Bloomberg, founder of Bloomberg LP and Bloomberg Philanthropies and WHO Global Ambassador for Noncommunicable Diseases and Injuries.
“Bloomberg Philanthropies has been working to improve road safety since 2007 by strengthening laws, increasing enforcement, redesigning streets, and using data. I’m glad to say that the WHO’s ambitious global plan for road safety includes many of the strategies that we’ve used to save lives, and it will help encourage governments around the world to make road safety the high priority it should be.”
This Global Plan describes the actions needed to achieve that target. This includes accelerated action to make walking, cycling and using public transport safe, as they are also healthier and greener modes of transport; to ensure safe roads, vehicles and behaviours; and to guarantee timely and effective emergency care. It is aimed to inspire countries, including governments and partners to act boldly and decisively, using the tools and knowledge gained from the last Decade of Action to change course.
“More than 50 million people have died on the world’s roads since the invention of the automobile. This is more than the number of deaths in World War One or some of the worst epidemics.” says Dr Etienne Krug, the Director of the Department of the Social Determinants of Health. “It is time to put in action what we know works and shift to a much safer and healthier mode of transport. This new plan will lead countries onto a more sustainable path.”
The Global Plan outlines recommended actions drawn from proven and effective interventions, as well as best practices for preventing road trauma. It should be used as a blueprint to inform and inspire national and local plans that are tailored to local contexts, available resources and capacity. The Global Plan is aimed not only at senior policy-makers, but also other stakeholders who can influence road safety, such as civil society, academia, the private sector and community and youth leaders.
GOVERNMENT has appointed a team to monitor what Zimbabweans post on social media around the clock, Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa said.
Mutsvangwa was, however, quick to state that the government did not intend to regulate social media.
“We have actually come up with a cyber-team that is constantly on social media to monitor what people send and receive since we cannot wish social media away,” Mutsvangwa said.
“We are also appealing to the Zimbabweans and top government officials that whatever message they post on social media should be to build not to destroy the community.”
Mutsvangwa blamed the late former President Robert Mugabe for maintaining a tight grip on media while praising his successor Emmerson Mnangagwa for “ensuring free speech”.
“People used to have fear and respect on social media during Mugabe’s time, but all that is no longer there in the second republic.”
Harare Polytechnic media studies lecturer Spanyoge Madziwa said the government had no role in regulating social media since it did not own any social media network.
“With the advent of technology, we have seen an improvement in the use of digital space for people to air their concerns without fear. So there is no need to regulate social media, people must be free,” he argued.
Madziwa also spoke out against promoting hate speech on social media, saying this tarnishes the country’s image.
He added: “People should use proper channels when they need clarification from relevant authorities. However, social media is a tool used by whistleblowers, especially on corruption.”
Mnangagwa’s government is currently working Cyber-Security and Data Protection Bill which will, apart from punishing social media abusers, allow snooping on private communication among citizens.- NewsDay

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF has threatened to storm Garwe Restaurant if they insist on hosting Simozi Mhlongo, a South African gay celebrity they had invited to officiate the reopening of the food outlet.
Garwe Restaurant has since dumped Simozi and they replaced him with another South African singer, actress and dancer, Kelly Khumalo.
In a statement on Wednesday, according to Zim Morning Post, ZANU PF youth league acting secretary-general Tendai Chirau said:
I’ve engaged the owner of the outlet Ms Mandi expressing concerns by different societal groups over the invitation of one of the highly controversial guests (Mhlongo), a declared ngito (a derogatory term for homosexual).
I’m glad to announce that the owner took heed of the great concerns and elected to remove the said ngito from the guest list and never associate themselves with the said character again.
Speaking after accepting the invitation, Kelly said she “can’t wait” to grace the red carpet event. She said:
I’m so excited to come back to Zimbabwe for the grand reopening of the Garwe Restaurant. Thank you so much to Mandi for hosting me and I can’t wait to meet all your patrons. See you guys on Thursday at 6 PM.

Khumalo’s invitation comes after churches and the ruling ZANU PF party blocked South African celebrity Somizi Mhlongo over his sexual orientation.
The Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe (ACCZ) threatened to hold a demonstration at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport upon Somizi’s arrival as well as at the restaurant to make sure that the South African would not attend the event.
The churches said allowing Somizi to attend the event meant they would have openly accepted homosexuality in Zimbabwe which is against the constitution.

By A Correspondent- A Gweru vendor who killed his wife and two children on Tuesday collapsed and died this Thursday before he could answer to murder charges at the Gweru Provincial Magistrate Courts.
Leo Kanyimo (38) allegedly went into a trance on Tuesday afternoon and axed his wife and two children to death.
Reports suggest that police officers had to be assisted by members of the public to arrest Kanyimo, who had just turned violent while speaking in an unknown language.
Midlands provincial prosecutor Samuel Pedzisayi confirmed the death of Kanyimo while he was in the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services holding cells. Said Pedzisayi:
The murder accused from Woodlands suburb Leo Kanyimo collapsed and died while in prison holding cells.
He had been brought to court by the police and because of his extreme violent nature, he was put in the holding cells while his record was being opened.
Meanwhile, The Mirror reported sources as saying that Kanyimo (38) who was an ardent AFM member, had an altercation with his wife Chipo Shava (30) over a US$1 that the latter allegedly used to buy jiggies for the kids resulting in a misunderstanding.
In anger, Kanyimo bludgeoned his wife and two children to death using a log.
The cause of Kanyimo’s sudden death is yet to be established, but a report claims that he had a scar on the head, which he sustained when neighbours mobbed up and restrained him before tying him up with ropes.

Mbungu Secondary School in Gokwe South District has reportedly been closed after suspected goblins attacked female learners at the school premises.
In a video that has emerged on social media platforms, there is pandemonium everywhere as scores of parents and pupils appear in a state of shock because of the strange events unfolding right in front of their eyes. Several girls in schools uniforms can be heard crying loudly and running wildly as if mysterious forces were pummelling them.
Some community members wearing what appear to be religious regalia are seen in the video praying for the pupils.
By A Correspondent- A famous Bulawayo medical doctor and National University of Science and Technology (Nust) lecturer Muriel Fallala has died in a car accident.
Dr Fellala died yesterday after she lost control of her vehicle near Ascot racecourse while driving to the city’s centre to attend to a critical patient.
She was still young and strong, this is a sad day for me,” said Prof Ngwenya, Dr Fallala was a Medical and Dental Council of Zimbabwe councillor and an administrator at Galen House. Zimbabwe Medical Association president Dr Francis Chiwora said Dr Fallala was a dedicated cadre who did not just treat patients, but also imparted knowledge to up-and-coming doctors.
She immediately embarked on training others to join the specialist field.” Nust communication and marketing director Mr Thabani Mpofu said Dr Fallala’s death is not just a loss to her family but the nation at large. We mourn with the Fallala family during these difficult times.” Dr Fallala trained at Stellenbosch University in South Africa and Second Medical University in Moscow, Russia. She was the past president of the College of Primary Care Physicians Zimbabwe and was a member of the World Organization of Family Doctors.

Harare City coach Lloyd ‘Lodza’ Chitembwe is set for a reunion with his boyhood club CAPS United, it has emerged.
The Green Machine parted ways with coach Darlington Dodo this week, with less than a week before the 2021 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season gets underway.
Chitembwe left Makepekepe to join the Sunshine Boys in 2019 and signed a lucrative 2-year deal, which is set to expire in the next few months.
All indications point to Chitembwe returning to the club he won the league with, both as a player and as a coach.
The former Warriors assistant coach led CAPS to the league title in 2019.

By Wilbert Mukori- It is great to be a dictator; you can say whatever you like, make all manner of promises knowing fully well you will never ever be held to democratic account for it!
“Zimbabwe has set an ambitious objective of reducing carbon emissions by 40% per capita by 2030. The removal of illegal sanctions which have been imposed on my country will go a long way in helping to enable the achievement of this target,” announced President Emmerson Mnangagwa in his speech to the on-going UN conference on Climate Change in Glasgow, UK.
Just as well, President Mnangagwa was addressing empty chairs because he would have struggled to be heard above the hum of suppressed laughter! He announced very bold and ambitious carbon emission reduction targets indeed, not that anyone believed him. Still, they wanted to hear how Zimbabwe would meet those targets.
Instead of hearing the explanation of how Zimbabwe will reduce its green house gas emission by 40% in nine years time; the President went on to give an excuse, not just an excuse but a feeble excuse, why will not deliver on its emission promise – sanctions!
It is impossible not to laugh!
2030 is a big year for Zimbabwe, Zanu PF’s Zimbabwe to be exact; the party has promised the nation will attain “upper middle income” status that year; vision 2030. The President, Minister of Finance Professor Mthuli Ncube and the rest of the Zanu PF leaders insist the nation is on course to attain this goal.
All the economic indicators for meaningful economic recovery increased investment, better infrastructure, increased trade, strengthening local currency, increasing employment opportunity and better wages, etc. are not there.
Indeed, the economic recovery that Mnangagwa promised with his much heralded “Zimbabwe is open for business!” mantra when he toke over following the 2017 military coup has not materialised. The mantra was dead in the water even as the regime was going around on the no expense spare to promote it.
“Zimbabwe is open for business!” was premised on the idea that the November 2017 military coup had transformed Zimbabwe from the Banana Republic, a pariah state, ruling by corrupt, incompetent and vote rigging thugs into a “democratic new dispensation, a Second Republic,” as Mnangagwa went to great pain to point out.
The truth there for all to see; Zimbabwe was still a pariah state; the military coup was just a meaningless musical chairs booting out some thugs to promote others. The failure to hold free, fair and credible elections in July 2018, confirmed nothing had changed.
As long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state, there will be no meaningful economic recovery, vision 2030 will remain a mirage. President Mnangagwa’s promise to reduce Zimbabwe’s greenhouse gases in just another mirage.
If anything, Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown, a result of 41 years and counting of gross mismanagement and rampant corruption under Zanu PF rule, has accelerated the cutting down of trees for firewood and land degradation. The country’s worsening economic situation will only mean the greenhouse gases emissions and land degradation will get worse!
This Zanu PF regime had the detailed plans for Batoka Gorge Hydro when the country gained her independence in 1980 and has done nothing about it to this day. How many trees would have been spared the axe if this second Kariba Dam had been built, to say nothing of the other economic benefits!
It is hoped that many developed nation will honour their pledge to give US$100 billion to help developing nations cope with the challenges brought by global climate changes. It is almost certain Zimbabwe will not get its fair share of the assistance because of the country’s reputation of being corrupt and wasteful.
A Zimbabwe government audit report showed that 90% of the aid the country received following the Ida Cyclone two years ago was either wasted or looted. 90%!
It is interesting to note that last week, when President Mnangagwa was polishing up his Glasgow speech, the UN Special rapporteur, Ms Alena Douhan, told him Zimbabwe address its underlying problems and stop using sanctions as an excuse for its failures.
“Time is ripe for the sanctioning states and key national stakeholders to engage in a meaningful structured dialogue on political reform, human rights and the rule of law and abandon rhetoric on sanctions as an advocacy tool,” said Ms Douhan.
“Zimbabwe will reduce greenhouse gases by 40% by 2030!” From a regime that has failed to deliver free election in 41 years!
By Patrick Guramatunhu- “Emmerson Mnangagwa’s panicky administration has deployed hundreds of police officers, many in riot gear, in Harare amid fears of an imminent uprising, it has emerged,” reported Zimeye.
“Security sector sources revealed that in addition to the cops, who have maintained a heavy presence in Harare’s central business district (CBD) for over a week, the government has also secretly deployed significant numbers of undercover agents, mainly from the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) to gather intelligence.
“The deployment comes at a time the governing party, Zanu PF, has been spooked by MDC Alliance Nelson Chamisa’s trailblazing nationwide campaign which it has sought to violently thwart.
“It also comes amid a general apprehension occasioned by growing discontentment over worsening economic problems.”
It is ironic that the one of justifications for the November 2017 military coup that toppled Robert Mugabe was to end the economic meltdown and avert the threat of social unrest to protest economic hardships.
It is four years this month since the November 2017 coup and the economic recovery has not materialised. Mnangagwa’s much heralded “Zimbabwe is open for business!” has failed to attract the flood of investors because by the country is still a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent and vote rigging thugs.
MDC leaders have failed to implement even one democratic reform to stop the vote rigging when they had the golden opportunity to do so during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. And since the GNU debacle, they have participated in the flawed and illegal elections for the sake of the few gravy train seats Zanu PF has gave away as bribe. Zanu PF needs the opposition to participate to give the rigged election process some credibility and, by extension, give vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy.
MDC leaders have known they cannot win rigged elections and have banked on the people staging street protests to vent their frustration over rigged elections and/or worsening economic hardship and finally boot Zanu PF out of office. Zanu PF knows this is the only real threat to end the regime’s iron grip on power hence the reason regime is always on the edge ready to ruthlessly crash all civil unrest, peaceful or otherwise.
Last week the regime rounded up war veterans, many of them in the 60s and some could hardly walk let alone throw a stone at the regime. They were voicing their anger over government’s repeated failure to increase the pension. They receive a pittance US$ 90 per month in a country whose PDL is US$ 650 per month!
The triple tragedy with MDC’s street protest strategy are:
If MDC had not sold-out and remained focused and implementing the democratic reforms, Zimbabwe would have had free, fair and credible elections by 2013 at the lasted and out of this mess. As it is we are still stuck with Zanu PF and it could be many more moons before the long awaited street protests finally happen.
Street protests are going to be a violent confrontation, the people, MDC and Zanu PF know that; there will be lost property, broken limbs and lost lives. It is sobering thought that this would have been avoided if only MDC had implemented the reforms.
The street protest will, no doubt, deliver some political change but not necessarily all the democratic changes the nation wants and so the nation will end up with a weak political system that will deliver mediocre government for generations to come. At worst, the street protests may mark the beginning of endless national fragmentation and infighting as has happen in Libya.
It is disheartening to note that SADC, EU, USA and anyone with democratic sense have all argued for the reforms to be implemented BEFORE elections.
It is the MDC leaders who have insisted in participating in the flawed elections under the pretence the opposition have devised “winning in rigged elections (wire) strategies”. The people of Zimbabwe have believed this nonsense time and time again even after 42 years of rigged elections.
One thing is certain Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown is taking a heavy toll on the nation with unemployment a soaring 90%, basic services such as education and health care all but collapse, 49% and rising of the population now live in abject poverty.
The situation cannot continue and, by refusing to implement democratic reforms, the only other way to deliver change is violence civil unrest and/or another military coup.
We are sleep walking into yet another violent revolution whose outcome is anyone’s guess!
By A Correspondent- After being blocked from attending a red carpet event in Zimbabwe, South African celebrity chef, Somizi Mhlongo finally broke his silence.
Somizi was scheduled to be the guest chef at the reopening of Garwe Restaurant in Harare.
His invitation to grace the iconic restaurant which has hosted big international visits, such as Nigeria’s P-Square duo, Sean Paul and Brick & Lace has caused a lot of controversy in the country as different players have weighed in. Churches in Zimbabwe mobilised to block Somizi from attending the function.
In a letter addressed to the Office of the President and Cabinet and several government ministries and the churches asked the government to block Somizi from the country because of his se_xual orientation.
Somizi posted a video on his Instagram account explaining to his fans how disappointed he was to have been blocked from coming into Zimbabwe.
“I have some sad news…I was booked to be in Zimbabwe as part of my cooking thingy. There is a reopening of a restaurant. Everything was done properly, they had made the payment and they started saying no because I haven’t posted the event, they want their refund and want to cancel,” he said.
He claims that something felt offish when they contacted him telling him that they wanted to cancel their arrangement because he didn’t post the event on his Instagram.
”I suspected something was off. From last week Thursday, I didn’t have my phone and I don’t have my login details for Instagram and I made clear to them that I won’t be able to reach my Instagram because my phone is in for repairs and the other phone I have doesn’t have Instagram….”
Somizi rubbished claims that they cancelled him because he didn’t post the event as he claims that he informed the restaurant management prior that he didn’t have access to Instagram.
He claims that he only got to discover yesterday that he was blocked from going to Zimbabwe when he logged in to his Instagram and was about to post that he is jetting into Zimbabwe.
Somizi said his suspicions were confirmed when he found his inbox flooded with messages from people asking him to comment on the issue.
He said, he was not banned because he still wants to go to Zimbabwe. Somizi revealed that there are people who don’t want him to come because of his se_xuality.
”They are people in Zimbabwe who don’t want me to come based on my sexuality, they have made it clear. And this is not the first time this has happened to me, am used to it, am okay with it but am not okay at the same time.”
He bemoaned how some African countries are not yet accepting LGBTQI+. He added that hom0phobes were no different from xenophobes and racists.
Masvingo – A man from Tsvakai Village under Chief Shindi in Chivi threw his 15-year-old daughter onto his bed and attempted to rape her after offering to pay US$15 for the act.
Earlier Isheanesu Chikova (48) had offered to buy her daughter a battery for her old phone or buy a new phone completely if she was to accept his demands.
When the girl refused Chikova pushed the daughter onto his bed and went on top of her, pinned her down, lifted her dress to above the waist and removed her tight skin. The girl only managed to free herself after biting the father with her teeth. Chivi magistrate Patience Madondo sentenced Chikova to 1-year in jail after he appeared before her on October 9 2021.She suspended .He will serve an effective 1 year in prison.
It is the State case that on October 7, 2020, Chikova came back home from the beerhall at around 4am. He found his fifteen-year-old daughter sleeping with her two younger siblings and sent the complainant to the kitchen to collect a winnowing pan whilst he went to his bedroom.
The complainant proceeded to her father’s bedroom with the winnowing pan where she found him in his underpants only. Chikova then offered his daughter US$10 and told her that he wanted to have sexual intercourse with her. She refused and the accused raised the stakes and offered to buy her a new battery or a new phone.
She again refused and Chikova then grabbed her and threw her onto his bed. When the girl ran out of the room, Chikova threatened to kill her if she told anyone about what had just happened. She told the girl that these were just family secrets. The matter was reported to Police leading to the arrest of Chikova.- Masvingo Mirror
By A Correspondent | The ZANU PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa was on Wednesday 3rd Nov met with humiliation when he was blocked off his own Zimbabwe Presidential Investment Meeting.
The meeting was held at the Cross Basket Castle in Blantyre.
Holed up inside his hotel … Emmerson Mnangagwa
In an intrigue, the man who travelled with over a hundred delegates from Zimbabwe saw less than 45 people turn up for his investment showroom. The 44 who turned up included his own staff such as Mthuli Ncube and others, meaning the number of real investors, if any, falls far below the 40 marker.
The Zimbabwe Presidential Investment Conference was a bid to unlock foreign direct investment (FDI) for Zimbabwe and had been confirmed by Ambassador to the UK, Christian Katsande.
The invitation read:
“On the occasion of hosting Emmerson Mnangagwa, President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, and on behalf of Retired Colonel Christian Katsande, we are delighted to invite you to attend the Zimbabwe Presidential Investment Conference in Glasgow on the morning of the 3rd November.
“The event will start from 9 am until 1:30 pm, followed by a seated plated three-course lunch and networking. The venue is within 15 – 20 minutes of central Glasgow and full details will be provided on your confirmation.”
When it eventually kicked in, Mnangagwa was told by the British govt authorities the only places he is allowed to visit are UN function premises, his hotel room, and lastly the airport for exiting the country, an impeccable source who declined being named, told ZimEye.
Their claim was confirmed by that the man would truly fail to attend. The meeting lasted for over 3 hours and Mnangagwa peeped into the meeting via a Zoom link (see pictures).
He held question and answer sessions with attendance delegates over the several hours.
It could not be established at the time of writing, which business investors Mnangagwa managed to convince, as the Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube, chairing, did not disclose anything near such an achievement.
The last time Mthuli Ncube was in the UK, he falsely claimed while at q Chatham House meeting that no investor funds would be raided by the treasury (see video below Mthuli Ncube being grilled by ZimEye’s Simba Chikanza who revealed that the raiding of bank accounts had already begun and there were exhibits on the very day.)
The development comes a day after Zimbabweans demonstrating at the COP26 Climate Change Conference managed to block Mnangagwa attending his galla at the Trades Hall, Glasgow charity building.
Scottish Police were seen protecting protesters instead of Mnangagwa in a twist, and Film Director and activist Silvano’s Mudzvova told ZimEye, the Charity’s Trustees announced that Mnangagwa was no longer coming.
Commenting, government spokesperson Nick Mangwana described his trip as “a very successful trip.”
He ended his comment by saying in Shona, “Apa hapana chakaipa hapo!”
The Diaspora gave His Excellency resounding welcome. Tomorrow, welcome home Your Excellency from a very successful trip. Apa hapana chakaipa hapo! pic.twitter.com/5ItqVDrMSi
Contacted for a comment, ZANU PF leadership claimed saying Mnangagwa was never meant to attend. Advert material however was clear that it was Mnangagwa’s Galla, and many of his own attendants told ZimEye, they were disappointed that the ZANU PF leader is no longer coming. Leo Kanyimo (38) of Woodlands, Gweru, who was trending for the wrong reasons after killing his wife and two kids in cold blood collapsed and died in a court cell this morning as he was due to go for a hearing at the Gweru Magistrate’s Court.
Sources who spoke to CommuTalk said Kanyimo supposedly succumbed to apprehension wounds. An inside source told CommuTalk that police who attended the scene have observed that the now deceased had stitched deep cuts in his head, which he sustained as he resisted apprehension by the community.
“He is dead, and police have already attended the scene. Police who attended the scene say Kanyimo had stitched deep cuts in his head that he probably sustained during apprehension,” the source said.
An eye witness to Kanyimo’s arrest, Elton Gobha also confirmed that community members had resorted to hitting him with stones, having realized that he was attacking anyone who tried to get near him.
“The guy was ecstatic, wild and speaking in an unknown dialect. About 12 strong men were overpowered by Kanyimo single-handedly.
Community members started attacking him with stones, also to have him release one of his now-deceased kids, who he was holding in his hand.
“It is one soldier who braved up to get even nearer and grabbed from him the wooded hoe he was using to attack people.
He also used the weapon to hit him on both knees, which weakened him leading to police managing to apprehend him,” Gobha narrated.
Midlands police spokesperson, Ass Insp Emmanuel Mahoko however said he could not comment on the issue noting that it was being handled at the national office.
By A Correspondent- The City of Bulawayo (BCC) has identified 18 properties in the affluent suburbs of Selbourne Park and Hillcrest where the owners built illegal structures.
The council has since issued the owners with 21-day notices for appropriate measures to be taken or face the demolition of the structures.
The Director of Housing and Community Services (Mr Dictor Khumalo) reported that in terms of the model building by-laws (1977), no construction should be done without approved plans and requisite inspections by Council.
As such the developments should be regularised if they met all Council by-laws and policies subject to relevant penalties paid. If they could not comply, then the development had to be removed accordingly.
The Department carried routine inspections around the city. Appropriate 21 days notices had been issued.
If no corrective action was taken penalties would be charged and where appropriate demolishing procedures instituted.
Several months ago BCC condemned 51 buildings in the Central Business District (CBD), which are in a poor state and considered abandoned, dilapidated or derelict.
HON. R. MAKONI: My question is directed to the Minister of Finance and Economic Development. Most of the local authorities in Zimbabwe are charging their rates in RTGS yet they buy their fuel in US dollars. What plans does Government have so that councils can access fuel in RTGS?
*THE DEPUTY MINISTER OF FINANCE AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT (HON. CHIDUWA): About two weeks ago, we all heard what was happening at the RBZ auction system whereby some oil companies were abusing the facility. The apex bank moved in and suspended all gas and oil companies because they could afford to access the foreign currency on their own. As a Ministry, we then designated NOIC to import fuel using their own duty in RTGS. That fuel which is being imported by NOIC is the one that is given to local authorities and Government departments for use in their day to day programmes. Right now, we are making sure that there are service stations that can sell fuel in RTGS to local authorities.
*HON. T. MLISWA: So why did you not arrest them?
*THE DEPUTY MINISTER OF FINANCE AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT (HON. CHIDUWA):Thank you Hon. Mliswa for your question. It is true we have several companies that we realise were getting forex but abusing it. However, following the violations that took place, we have civil penalties in place. The financial intelligence unit is carrying out audits. The Minister of Energy and Power Development is here. He might give us the statistics if he has them at hand, but the audits are being carried out by the Financial Intelligence Unit and the RBZ. All those found guilty, some of them will be charged penalties while some will have their accounts closed. Some were now involved in money laundering but the penalties that we have are just civil penalties and not criminal penalties.
*HON. T. MLISWA: Madam Speaker, I was requesting that we do our work diligently. I would like the Minister to bring a list of all the companies that were involved so that we know them.
THE HON. DEPUTY SPEAKER: Hon. Mliswa, you are not connected?
HON. T. MLISWA: I am connected through Hon. Mutsvangwa. Madam Speaker, I am saying this is good news to this Parliament. May the culprits, the list of all those who violated the regulations be brought to this august House so that we can know who they are and exercise our oversight.
*HON. CHIDUWA: As Treasury, we set precedence when we published some names, but we once published some names of those companies. If you check on the previous list that we released, you will see that those companies are listed there. The list also includes those companies that sell fuel. I do not think that there is anything wrong in us bringing the list to Parliament, but we stand to be guided by the Prosecutor-General’s Office.
HON. GONESE: Supplementary question Madam Speaker. Thank you very much Hon. Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Development. My supplementary question emanates from the fact that there is a disparity between the auction rate and the parallel market rate. Are we not likely to see a scenario where people are going to buy fuel at those designated service stations in Zimbabwean dollars and then resell the fuel at a profit in United States dollar terms because we are not tackling the root cause of the problem which is the growing disparity between the two rates of exchange and the other trying to deal simply with the symptoms because arresting people does not seem to be solving the problem, Hon. Deputy Minister.
HON. CHIDUWA: Thank you Hon. Gonese. Our problem especially with regard to the disparity between the official rate and the parallel market rate, yes, inasmuch as we are saying arresting people is not a solution but I think it is largely a behavioural problem which also requires some of these enforcement measures. Yes, we have got the economics to deal with. Quite a number of people think flouting the exchange rate is a solution. It may not necessarily be a solution as long as we have got people that have got behaviour that is not consistent with rational economic agents.
So with regards to the issue where you are saying it is likely to be abuse because of the disparity that is there between the exchange rates, we are going to be guided by the Ministry of Energy and Power Development. All those service stations that are going to be given the right to sell fuel in RTGS are supposed to have a fuel management system. The fuel management system is the one that we are going to use to ensure that we reduce cases of corruption and cases of abuse of the system. So that is our fallback position. The fuel management system which we hope is going to assist us in curbing abuse and corruption. Thank you.
(v)*HON. MAFUTA: My question is directed to the Acting Leader of the House. What measures are in place pertaining to some mining companies that are refusing rentals in local currency in preference to United States Dollars?
*THE MINISTER OF INFORMATION, PUBLICITY AND BROADCASTING SERVICES (HON. SEN. MUTSVANGWA): Thank you Madam Speaker. I also want to thank Hon. Mafuta for her question about mine workers who are paying rentals in United States Dollars whereas our country is using multi-currency. So people should not be deterred from using local currency because our policy is that we are using multi-currency. I thank you.
HON. M. KHUMALO: My question is directed to the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development. It is in connection with the Emergency Roads Rehabilitation in the country. We are approaching the rain season and the planned roads on that programme have not been attended to. I think we have travelled throughout the country and a lot of roads are still not passable. What is the Ministry going to do to attend to that problem because deliveries of grain and seed for planting will not take place in those areas where roads are bad? Thank you.
THE MINISTER OF TRANSPORT AND INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT (HON. MHONA): Thank you Hon. Madam Speaker Ma’am. Let me also thank Hon. Khumalo for that important question on Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme.
Hon. Madam Speaker Ma’am, let me share with the august House that this programme is running for three years until February 2024. What it means is that it is an ongoing programme. As we speak and maybe to allay the fears of Hon. Members and the citizenry, some roads are even constructed during the rain season and those roads are even stronger than the roads that we construct during the normal period. So I want to allay the fears of Hon. Khumalo that yes, we are approaching the rain season and there is something that we are going to be doing during this time.
Also to say that the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development superintends over a number of road authorities, inter alia the Department of Roads that falls under its purview. We also have local authorities, rural district councils and DDF. So at times, it is not in the public domain to say who owns this road but like I always say, at the end of the day, it comes to the Minister but there are road authorities mandated to look and manage their own roads. In particular, if you then go especially to the rural constituencies, some are under DDF rural district councils.
What happened during the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme was to take roads but it is so sad Hon. Madam Speaker Ma’am that some of the local authorities, even after having received funding from ZINARA have not used that funding. I will come before this august House with a report of whatever went through to a local authority, rural district council, DDF and how they utilised that money towards road rehabilitation. You will find that in other areas, the money is seated, as we speak, in their accounts – which is quite sad. The motive behind, you will be wondering why because we have not taken all the roads as the Ministry, we have earmarked certain roads and I am sure the august House can concur that tremendous work has been done on some of the roads. We cannot rehabilitate all roads.
The assumption is that funding that was coming from ZINARA was supposed to go to the local authorities and rural district councils so that they take their day to day programmes of rehabilitating roads and of late, some were not doing that. So I urge even to work closely with Parliament over the oversight role to say, those who were given funding, why are they not using that funding, which is something to me that is contrary to the public expectation. This is something that we are also going to be doing. I want to thank Hon. Khumalo that yes, the noble idea by His Excellency, Hon. Mnangagwa to declare a State of Disaster was for us to then move with speed in trying to rehabilitate our roads. This is the only initiative and reason why we are here so that we rehabilitate and promote passability on our roads. I thank you.
By A Correspondent- Chinhoyi municipality has suspended the Sister-in-Charge at its Mzari Polyclinic, Charity Muzani over 27 vaccination cards that went missing under unclear circumstances last month.
Council Director of Health, Dr William Mayabo revealed to H-Metro that the local authority had suspended Munaki pending investigations as the matter has already been handed over to the police. Said Mayabo:
The Sister-in-charge of Mzari clinic has been suspended over 27 COVID-19 vaccination cards that went missing at the clinic last month.
As the sister-in-charge, Munaki was supposed to know where the cards went because she is the one who had custody of the keys, in which she is the only one who fills in stock cards and everything, but she just said the cards are missing.
So the action that we took is the issue was reported to ZRP, which referred the case to CID. It is still under investigation.
He said the town clerk, Maxwell Kaitano managed to come up with a board of inquiry.
“Our internal audit is seized with investigations as well.
We want to audit from the start including all the medical equipment at Mzari Polyclinic.”
Mayabo, however, refused to disclose if the Sister-in-Charge was suspended with full benefits.
Several cases of missing vaccination cards have been reported across the country amid reports that the documents are selling like hotcakes.
People who have refused to be vaccinated against COVID-19, mainly due to religious beliefs or under the influence of conspiracy theories, prefer to buy the cards to avoid trouble at their workplaces.
By A Correspondent- Transport and infrastructure development minister Felix Mhona has attributed the road accidents along Harare Bulawayo road to reckless drunk drivers calling on citizens to be careful when driving on the cpuntry’s roads.
He said this while responding to a question from Hon Shava who probed the government plans for the Harare- Bulawayo Road which does not have humps to accomodate crossing pedestrians especially school children.
Responded Mhona:
I thank you Hon. Speaker and I thank the Hon. Member for her question. It is true we are losing a lot of lives on our highways. I would however want to say that we cannot put humps on highways because this will be dangerous.
We do put rambles so that motorists will reduce speed when approaching those areas. This is not the major problem; the major problem is that we are not following rules and regulations on the road. A lot 0f people are driving whilst drunk so it is my plea that drivers must exercise caution when driving.
We must keep on reminding each other that no matter how well we repair our roads, it is the responsibility of every driver to follow the rules and regulations on the road. Most accidents are caused by drivers.
If you have places that you know are dangerous Hon. Member, you are free to alert us so that we see how we can move forward

By A Correspondent- The Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe (ACCZ) wrote a letter to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, asking him to block South African media personality Somizi Mhlongo from officiating at a restaurant in Harare.
Somizi, who is gay, was set to host the Garwe Restaurant VIP reopening in the capital this afternoon at a cost of R250 000 but organisers of the event bowed to pressure from local groups to drop him.
ACCZ said it was vehemently opposed to Somizi attending the event as Zimbabwe’s constitution doesn’t tolerate homosexuality.
The church grouping said:
We represent indigenous churches in Zimbabwe and are strongly rooted in our culture and support our revolutionary party.
It is after we saw an article in our leading paper “Sunday Mail, 31 October edition” that a South African well known gay, Somizi Mhlongo “Somiz” is coming to Zimbabwe to grace the reopening of Garwe Restaurant on the 4 of November 2021.
The church is strongly against such an event in the sense that Somizi is a homosexual, hence according to our People’s driven Constitution, Zimbabwe doesn’t tolerate homosexuality.
The Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe warned that that Somizi’s attendance would cost ZANU PF votes in the 2023 elections. It said:
It is therefore our question if we allow Somizi to come to our land, spiritually we would have been disturbed a lot, and physically we would have openly accepted homosexuality in Zimbabwe hence affecting our children.
This move will also affect our revolutionary party ZANU PF by disturbing the 5 million votes win needed in the next 2023 harmonized elections for it is publicly known that our party strongly stands against homosexuality.
ACCZ said it was planning to hold a peaceful demonstration at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport upon Somizi’s arrival as well as at the restaurant.
In most African countries, homosexuality is considered “un-African” and a deviant Western ideology.
By A Correspondent- A notorious drug pusher in Chinhoyi has been jailed 18 months for unlawful possession and trafficking of a banned substance.
Pamela Chiwara (32) of Coldstream suburb was convicted of possession of 3,9 kilogrammes of dagga, which was found stashed at her house.
However magistrate Tamari Chibindi suspended six months of the sentence on condition of good behaviour.
The state case, led by prosecutor Review Nikisi had argued that on October 23, 2021, at around 10 am, detectives were on patrol in Coldstream when they received a tip off to the effect that Chiwara was in possession of dangerous drugs.
Acting upon the information, cops went to her house, where they found the accused person.
A subsequent search led to the recovery of 3,9kg hidden in her bedroom, stashed in a pillowcase concealed in the lower compartment of her wardrobe.
Chiwara was requested to produce a licence or permit authorising her to be in possession of dagga but she failed, leading to her arrest.
The recovered dagga was forfeited to the state for destruction.
In sentencing the accused person, the presiding magistrate lamented the high prevalence of drug-induced crimes and devastating effects drugs have had, particularly on the youths.
She said deterrent jail terms were appropriate to curb the vice which had wrecked society.
By A Correspondent | The ZANU PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa was on Wednesday 3rd Nov met with humiliation when he failed to enter his own Zimbabwe Presidential Investment Meeting.
By A Correspondent- Two lovers who were sharing their love together, sadly also shared their death together.
This comes after they were killed in an alleged hit-and-run accident on Tuesday, 2 November.
According to Reaction Unit of South Africa spokesman Prem Balrum, an unidentified woman was killed and her partner critically injured after they were run over by a truck on the R102 between Ottawa and Verulam, north of Durban.
“A member of the unit was travelling on the south-bound lane when he was flagged down by pedestrians. Upon investigation, the officer noticed a mangled body of a female lying face-down on the tarmac next to a metal barrier. The woman appeared to have been dragged between the barrier and the truck for about 15 metres.”
Balrum said upon inspection, a man was discovered in the overgrown bush next to the road.
“Witnesses informed the officer the two were run over by a truck that did not stop at the scene. Details of the truck were circulated to unit members responding to the scene.”
He said medics assessed the woman and found she was fatally injured. He said the man sustained critical injuries from the high-impact collision.
“His clothing items were located several metres from the scene. CPR commenced by paramedics from Netcare 911, Metro Police and the unit on the critically injured man after his condition rapidly deteriorated. After re-establishing a pulse, the patient was rushed to hospital, where he died up arrival.”
Balrum said officers search for the truck and located it near the Ottawa and Parkgate intersection.
“The driver and his assistant were found seated in the vehicle. When questioned, they informed the officers they were unaware they had knocked the pedestrians over, but the left headlight was missing from the truck.”
Captain Nqobile Gwala said two pedestrians were crossing the R102 between the Ottawa and Verulam intersection, when they were knocked by the vehicle. The female victim sustained injuries and was certified dead at the scene, while the male victim was taken to hospital for medical attention, where he died: “A case of culpable homicide was opened at the Verulam Police Station for investigation.”
Barely a week after a man killed his wife and children in a horrific murder case in Gweru, another man has been killed in the Midlands town this morning.
According to a ZimEye source, the man in picture below was hit by a brick died on the spot near the Gweru clock tower along First street.
Details on the murder case are still sketchy but police were already on the crime scene attending conducting forensics while scores of people had gathered at the scene.

The passer-by spilled some water on the toilet floor, prompting the Muridzi to force the boy to clean up as the passer-by had left.
The boy complied but Muridzi started shouting at him, accusing him of delaying.

By A Correspondent- A 21 year old Zimbabwean man has been jailed for an effective 13 years for teaming up with two other people to rob at gunpoint a shopkeeper of money and a cellphone at a clothing boutique in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Carlos Mhlanga who was arrested in July last year was sent to prison on Friday following a full trial at the Johannesburg Magistrates Court.
He was brought to court charged for aggravated robbery and was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Johannesburg police spokesperson, Captain Xoli Mbele confirmed that Mhlanga had been convicted due to diligence on the part of the investigating officers.
“The accused and two of his accomplices robbed Clifford Boutique Clothing Shop at the corner of Bree and Polly Streets on July 13 last year at around 5 pm.
“The trio entered the shop pretending to be customers and later pointed a cashier with firearms, before taking an undisclosed amount of money from the till.
“They also searched him and took his cell phone, after which they fled from the scene in different directions,” said Capt Mbele.
He said the cashier followed one of the suspects while screaming for help.
A taxi queue marshal came to his rescue and apprehended the man who then recovered the firearm, live ammunition, and the complainant’s cellphone.
“We hope this sentence will scare away would-be offenders from committing a similar crime,” added Capt Mbele.-statemedia
She immediately embarked on training others to join the specialist field.” Nust communication and marketing director Mr Thabani Mpofu said Dr Fallala’s death is not just a loss to her family but the nation at large.

By A Correspondent- A well known Chitungwiza businesswoman was yesterday killed in a horror crash along Seke road.
The woman, identified as Blessing Chiedza Matanhire was involved in a head on collision after a lorry that was travelling in the opposite direction encroched into her lane crashing her car.
the late Blessing
Sources privy to the details said she was travelling with her child. It could however not be established if the child died on the spot.
Said a source who witnessed the tragic accident:
“There was a lorry that was travelling in the opposite direction and it is alleged that the driver was on the phone while driving. His vehicle encroached into the other lane which is used by the cars that are travelling from town and going towards Seke. The drivers of many of the vehicles going towards Seke saw how this driver was now a danger and they avoided him.
Unfortunately, Blessing did not see what was happening because she was travelling in her lane. She was involved in a head on collission with the lorry. I dont think the child that she was travelling with survived because the impact was horrific.”
By A Correspondent- Zambia’s ruling United Party for National Development (UPND), spokesperson Joseph Kalimbwe said his country’s President would never hire a private jet and address an empty auditorium at the climate change conference in Glasgow, Scotland.
Kalimbwe on Wednesday suggested that the benefit of travelling to Glasgow might not have produced results comparable to the cost of travelling as many leaders addressed empty auditoriums.
He said Wednesday:
In Africa, we must understand that buying/hiring private jets is not a sign of economic success. We measure economic success by how many people can easily find jobs, how many can afford a decent living. These are the fundamentals of a nation’s economic success – not private jets!
We can use $1 Million to fund public school projects & get kids back into school – to jumpstart their future. Theirs is a future we must protect. Our leadership will not burn private jet fuel from Lusaka to go address 4 people overseas when we can save money & fly commercial!!
Some observers view Kalimbwe’s statement as a direct jab at President Emmerson Mnangagwa who reportedly hired a private jet from Azerbaijan, a former Soviet Republic, for an average of US$415 000 for a one-way trip from Harare to Glasgow.
The estimate suggests Mnangagwa is spending close to USS$1 million on travel alone.
By a Correspondent- Emmerson Mnangagwa’s panicky administration has deployed hundreds of police officers, many in riot gear, in Harare amid fears of an imminent uprising, it has emerged.
Security sector sources revealed that in addition to the cops, who have maintained a heavy presence in Harare’s central business district (CBD) for over a week, the government has also secretly deployed significant numbers of undercover agents, mainly from the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) to gather intelligence.
They are required to submit daily reports. The heavy riot police presence has been witnessed in the city center every day since police officers clashed with a grouping of war veterans who were protesting the low allowances they receive from the government. The deployment comes at a time the governing party, Zanu PF, has been spooked by MDC Alliance Nelson Chamisa’s trailblazing nationwide campaign which it has sought to violently thwart. It also comes amid a general apprehension occasioned by growing discontentment over worsening economic problems. “The is a general fear among police commanders at the moment that the worsening hardships could trigger civil unrest and this was worsened by war veterans taking to the streets recently,” a police source said. “The idea is to showcase as much firepower as possible and scare away any potential rioters. This is precisely why you have seen police trucks on the streets and increasing roadblocks on the city’s main feeder roads. It’s psychological warfare taking place,” the source said. Another source said: “Reports that have been received generally show that there is a gloomy mood in the country which may crystalize into civil unrest. The entire security sector is currently on alert and ready to step in if the need arises.” NewZimbabwe.com went under-cover to interview some of the riot police officers who have been spending whole days on the city’s pavements and they professed ignorance on why they were deployed. “We don’t know why we were told on the streets. Normally, such information is kept away from us. We are simply told to go and occupy the streets and wait for further instructions,” a pair of female police officers who have been camped near the new government complex in Harare said. “In short, we don’t know why we are here,” they said, clearly showing exasperation. National police spokesperson Paul Nyathi confirmed there has been an element of civil unrest which occasioned the deployment. “The police have a mandate to maintain order,” Nyathi said. “I may not be aware of what you are calling huge numbers, but police patrols or moving around in vehicles or on foot is part of that responsibility of maintaining police visibility and assuring the public of their safety,” he said. Asked who specifically has threatened public security, Nyathi said: “I do not know what you mean by asking if the public safety is under threat. Remember police have a duty to conduct patrols in the country and patrols are conducted by the police moving around and being seen by the public, so I do not know if there is a problem if the forces are patrolling.

By A Correspondent- Over 2000 Lubimbi villagers in Binga are facing eviction to pave the way for the construction of the Gwayi-Shangani Dam.
Through the dam construction committee, the government said it had identified a piece of land in the Nakanono area, which they believe is suitable for their resettlement.
Dam committee chairperson, Edmond Sibanda, said the assessment has been completed.
Sibanda said:
Communities have agreed on Nakonono area, which is the former Kana Block farms. The land is near Shangani River, and is also close to the Victoria Falls-Bulawayo Road. However, we are still waiting for a response from the government. That is the land we want as a community and it is big enough to support meaningful livelihoods for all the affected communities. However, Lubimbi ward councillor Chrispen Munkuli said they were still debating the issue because the council has not yet visited the place for assessment. He added:
We were advised that workers from the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency also have to visit the place and give a way forward on the valuation exercise. The government recently carried out an assessment on the value of the property which is likely to be affected by the expansion of the Gwayi-Shangani Dam in Lubimbi with a view to compensate the evictees in United States dollars. The Gwayi-Shangani Dam project, which is part of the Zambezi Water Project, is scheduled to be completed by December 2022.

The day 23 October 2021 will go down in history as a special one for the Barura Express and Dembo Families. This was a day when Dembo’s close relatives, friends and fans met to reflect on the life of one of the greatest sons of Zimbabwe in the music industry, Leonard Musorowenyoka Kwangwari Gwaendepi Tazvivinga Dembomavara a.k.a Leonard Dembo. Dembo left us on 9 April 1996 and was laid to rest at his rural home at Chaka.
The historic event to celebrate his life in death after twenty five years was convened at Chaka, in Chirumanzu district in the Midlands province of Zimbabwe. Chaka is located thirty kilometres from Mvuma along Masvingo road. The Dembo homestead is exactly two kilometres from the Chaka centre, next to Gonawapotera Secondary School under Village Head Mhere.
As a loyal cadre of the Dembo legacy, I travelled overnight on 22 October 2021 to be at the venue. Surely, I could not afford to miss this great moment in my life. The preparations for the event had been going on for several months and it had been a packed and busy moment for the Dembo family as they prepared for the day, yet, it was only one day, a great and necessary day indeed. The man (Dembo) himself would always say “Gadziriro yako Mudiwa…izuva rimwe chete paGore asindinorikonewaaa…”. The important thing is that the “Dembo @25 years in Death Commemoration” event was a huge success.
Anever-to-missevent
I had always regarded myself as the greatest of Dembo supporters. Yes, I am, but reader, I was surprised to note that there are also some fans who belong to my class. Upon arrival at the Dembo homestead, I noted that the GOAT (greatest supporters of all times) was already there. The GOAT had travelled to Chaka a day before. Edfree January (Chairman), Nicholas Mugauri (Treasurer); Rambisai Munetsi (Secretary); Joseph Jongwe and Dr Johannes Marisa were already there.
Reader, a separate article will be written where I share with you the calibre, history and role of the GOAT in promotion of Dembo legacy. This is the core team that worked closely with the Dembo family to ensure that the unveiling of the tombstone of Leonard is successful. The GOAT, as they call themselves are a special group of the Dembo fans, made up of very committed people. The Chairman, Mr January, is a strong but nearly firm man. Nicholas (Monya), is a humble but very emotional man when it comes to the Dembo legacy. Rambisai is a bit stable but very sensitive about Dembo things. Joseph is a particular fan who has the capacity to sacrifice everything in the name of Dembo-he travelled all the way from Mozambique for the event. Dr Marisa, an all whether friend of the Dembo family. Let me not pre-empt what I will say in the promised article on this team.
The “Dembo @25 in Death Commemoration” event was also attended by Dembo’s close relatives, friends and other fans outside the GOAT; media houses (electronic and print); government officials; Chirumanzu community members and music promoters who worked with the late musician (including Partson Chimbodza and Grammar Records).
Participants had travelled from as far as Mozambique and South Africa to be with the Dembo and Barura Families on this day. By the way, I always argue that the Barura Express Family is bigger than the Dembo Family!
ASpecialHonourforMebutforallDemboFans
I was greatly honoured by the Dembo family to preside over this great event. I was thrown in the “deep” end to drive the event as the Event Director (some prefer to call it ED…or Master of Ceremonies). Waal… what a great honour for me and the Barura Express family at large! Thank you Dembo family for showing trust in me, and indeed, I am sure I did not disappoint.
It became an opportunity for me to represent the millions of the Dembo fans who could not physically be with us in Chaka due to other commitments.
I thought then and still believe, that I knew what the Dembo fans expected from the Government, media, and other stakeholders. Yes, they had always been sharing their proposals, aspirations, concerns and wishes regarding the status of Dembo in the Zimbabwean society through various platforms including the famous DEMBO THE LEGEND group.
I knew that Dembo supporters wished for their departed hero to be accorded an official hero status by the Government. The fans had been enviously observing how other Zimbabwean musicians’ work had been officially recognised by the Government (both the First and Second Republics), yet, their own musician (Dembo) seemed not to have received that honour despite his clear influence on our social, economic and cultural lives.
I knew too that the fans were worried about the way the Dembo sons were being unfairly treated by the media (and also by some section of the Dembo fans themselves)- who put them (the sons) under unnecessary pressure.
The fans were also concerned that the Dembo music is not fully benefiting the family, yet, on a daily basis it rocks all our local, regional and global radio stations and public places.
Indeed, Dembo fans had also been reflecting on possibilities of developing a more sustainable way of collectively supporting the Dembo legacy.
The fans had further been worried about the level of piracy that continued to rob the Dembo family of the potential proceeds from their father and husband’s sweat.
Therefore, my role as the ED of the day, allowed me to convey these wishes of the Dembo fans to the relevant audience present at the event and across the nation. I conveyed the key message to the representative of Minister Kirsty Coventry, Mr Shackson Reward. The message was clear that, we expect our beloved and “listening” Government to seriously consider honouring our legend through according him a hero’s status.
I further officially complained to our media for their discouraging reports about Dembo sons and I reiterated that it is not fair to compare Tendai and Morgen, not even any other Zimbabwean musician to Leonard. Learnard was a rare breed of an artist-he can never be compared to any other mortal musician, thus, his shoes were too big for his sons to fill.
Yet, the media and some Dembo fans should work to support the sons and not discourage them.
GogoMunatsiandGogoDembo “ WereNotPresent ”
While we gathered in Chaka to celebrate the life of Leonard, while we danced to Chitekete, Mazano, Ruva Rashe, Sarura Wako, Kutinya Marimba, Tinokumbira Kurarama, Nzungu Ndamenya, Fungai, Dudzai, Ziviso and others, two women who occupied a special place in the late musician’s life were visibly not there-Gogo Munatsi and Gogo Dembo. They could not even celebrate with us.
You will remember reader, that Dembo always sang about “Ambuya vangu ndingavatenda neiko….vakandizvarira chivaraidzo changuwoooo…”. He was grateful for his mother in law had given her fruits (Eunice Dembo) to him (Leonard). Dembo’s mother in law could have added the flavour of joy to the @25 years in death commemorations had she been around.
Dembo always sang about his mother, our mother and everyone’s mother. Countless songs from Dembo remind us of the need to respect and take care of our parents.
Surely, Gogo Dembo should have been happy to learn that his son was still being loved even in death. She should have been there to witness this great honour bestowed unto her son.
Sadly, Dembo family lost these two special women (Gogo Munatsi and Gogo Dembo) within almost a month apart, barely a few weeks before the great day (23 October2021).
On behalf of all the Barura Express family, as the ED, I took the opportunity to pass our condolences to the Munatsi and Dembo families for their loss of the two special women.
FormerWorkmencouldhavetoldusmoreaboutthelegend
The participants at the Chaka event would have loved to personally and physically interact with members of the Barura Express who directly worked with Leonard.
Innocent Mujintu (only surviving member now according to available sources) could not make it to the event due to last minute commitments. The rest of the other members are unfortunately late: Alexander Muudzwa, Chrispen Zimburu, Cosmas Nyathi, Kidson Madzorera and Shepard Akim. This was the special team that shaped the Dembo music during the last moments of our hero on earth.
EmotionallyFilledSpeechesfromtheDemboFamily
The Dembo family members were given the opportunity to share their thoughts about their son, father, brother and husband. Leonard’s brother, Gift, delivered an emotional speech chronicling the life of his elder brother. He also shared some insights into the private life of his brother, his character and aspirations for his extended family. Gift, a cool but very unassuming man, thanked the Dembo fans for gracing the event.
Another key member of the Dembo family, Rabson Mhike whose father (now late) was Leonard’s elder brother, also emotionally narrated his stay with his uncle (Babamunini Leonard) and Mainini (Eunice Dembo). Rabson is now a successful businessman working closely with his uncle, Gift, and he owes this to Leonard’s support in his early life.
Dembo sons (Morgen and Law Tendai) and daughter, Fenistia Linah (Fenny) emotionally narrated how their mother took care of them after the death of their father. They were grateful for the unending support they continue to receive from the greater Barura Express family.
Critically, though, Leonard’s children appealed to the fans and the media not to give them unnecessary pressure by expecting them to match the standards reached by their father. What they need is support and not pressure.
They however committed to working with their father’s fans in protecting, promoting and even defending the Dembo legacy.
For me, the event was a huge milestone in my continued search for the true history of Dembo. I finally met, the queen herself, Mrs Eunice Dembo (VaChihera), the wife to the legendary musician. Here is a strong woman and one who loved her husband. One could tell that she still misses her partner.
I will reserve a lot more detail about this special woman for a separate article because, indeed, the @25 years Dembo commemorations gave me the opportunity to know more about my hero through his wife.
Mrs Dembo narrated how she met Leonard in Masvingo, the growth of their love, the successes in their life, their children, the death of her husband and the subsequent tombstone unveiling on this great day. She briefly shared, on the side-line of the tombstone unveiling session, that indeed, Leonard loved his family. It was indicated that he would even take his children to his shows. “Fenny uyu, aiendwa naye kumashows….achitenderera pamakumbo ababa vake vachiridza gitari ravo…..Dai kuchema kwaimutsa munhu, dai murume wangu akamuka nokuti ndirikumuchema nguva dzose…” she said.
I can only say that, Mrs Dembo has all we need to know about our hero. She is indeed the legitimate source of that history. As a historian myself, I was particularly interested in every word that Mrs Dembo said. That for another day!
DembowasaCommunityMan
Leonard interacted with his Chaka community members each time he visited his rural home. Village Head Mhere and Headman Chaka confirmed that the late musician was a humble and simple man. The two traditional leaders thanked the Barura Express family for the support it gave to the Chaka community through Leonard. Chaka community’s profile was catapulted to the international level through Leonard Dembo.
In her speech, Mrs Dembo also appreciated the support her family always gets from the traditional leaders while she is in Harare. She also shared that Leonard would buy some goodies for the elderly members of Chaka community whenever he happened to be around. This was confirmed by some women I talked to at the graveyard where Leonard lies.
Nicholas Mugauri, a GOAT, asked a certain butcher man at Chaka regarding Leonard’s conduct when he was at Chaka and the answer was “the man was very humble and he would come and play with his band at this veranda….”
TheGovernment’s “ Commitment ”
Over the years, the Dembo fans had been eagerly waiting for that moment when their hero’s annual commemorations would attract the attention of the Government. Thanks to the GOAT, this time around, the event was graced by a Senior Civil Servant. The Minister of Youth, Sport, Art and Recreation, Dr Kirsty Coventry was represented by Mr Shackson Reward, the Midlands Provincial Arts, Culture Promotion and Development Administrator.
Mr Reward narrated the history of Leonard from his birth in 1959 at Masvingo General Hospital, his music career and influence in our society. He indeed agreed with the fans that Leonard deserved to be formally accorded a hero status. He had this to say in his speech “Dai Leonard akafa munguva ye Second Republic, nyaya yacho hamaiihwina Changamire, dai arere pachikomo.. (If Leonard had died during the reign of the Second Republic, he would have been accorded a national hero’s status and would have been laid at the National Heroes Acre)”.
Mr Reward reiterated that the media needs to contribute towards the protection of the Dembo legacy. He further committed that in all future high profile events in the Midlands, the Barura Express will be invited to play as a way of supporting it.
In response to the Minister’s commitment, a Clergyman, Rev Zihove who had led the Church Service requested for Government to consider naming one of the roads after Leonard Dembo as this would comfort the late musician’s fans.
As fans we have faith in our Government, that one day, “Dembo Day” will be officially recognised.
TheGiganticTombstone
The climax of the event was the unveiling of Dembo’s tombstone. The Minister, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Dembo Family members and the Church leadership led the procession to the graveyard which is located about half a kilometre from the Dembo homestead. The fans were particularly impressed by the size and quality of the tombstone that befitted their hero. The tombstone is very unique-it almost has got four faces. From each side you will see Dembo’s pictures, all his albums and key messages from his wife, sons and daughter. As he was of the Shumba (Lion) totem, a big lying but very alert lion is also pictured in very expensive and attractive materials. Then “Dembo’s Guitar” is also hanging at the top part of the tombstone. Reader, this tombstone is unique, nice, big, and very attractive.
Speaking at the graveyard, Mr Reward called for the Chaka community leadership to consider building a Mausoleum in order to protect the tombstone from rains, sunlight and animals. He further argued that the tombstone can also be used as a tourist attraction feature.
Rev Zihove then challenged the Church to also consider hidding the call by erecting a fence around the graveyard. This structure is actually the best that the Dembo family could offer to our hero and as fans we are grateful.
Indeed, the Barura Express under Tendai is “Mayaas”. I can boldly confirm this. When Dr Marisa warned that the Barura Express has remained a force to reckon with when he delivered his speech on behalf of millions of Dembo fans, I had not taken him seriously.
The band played a couple of Leonard’s songs and the community members were treated to an early Christmas. Tendai’s lead guitar is “Mayaas”. For me, Tendai is now almost 90% close to his father. The man surprised many and surely you would think that he had been in the Barura Express of the early 1990s.
While it will be very difficult to fully imitate the way his father did it, Tendai’s future is very bright. I was also personally impressed by the drummer, the rhythm and baas players, the dancers and the vocalist. With full support from the Dembo fans, this band has the potential to reach high levels. Let us support the group for the sake of Dembo legacy!
MorgenLaunched “ ChikaraKununa ”
I was also honoured to officially announce the arrival of another excellent work from Morgen Dembo, “Chikara Kununa” Album. I am currently reviewing the album and will be able to share my full appreciation of the project in the next few days. I have already sampled a few songs and indeed, Morgen has very good voice. With time, we will surely have Leonard’s voice back through Morgen.
During the commemoration of his father’s @25 years in death, Morgen teamed up with his sister, Fenny to back the Barura Express as they sang “Sunga musoro wedendende musungo wakanaka…dendendede…” The crowd enjoyed and called for more. Well done Moggie.
And …. TheDemboDocumentaryisloading ….
Meanwhile, Fenny is leading a Dembo documentary development process. The documentary will cover Leonard’s life, career, and all that we may need to know about our hero. I am happy that I managed to give my input into the documentary.
This promises to be an exciting project that will allow the Dembo fans to have a full and true picture of Dembo’s life beyond the bits and pieces that we continue to pick in the media. However, this will be also an opportunity for the fans to support the Dembo family as the project will be monetised. This will be our small and humble way of supporting the family of the man who continues to entertain and educate us even in death.

Tinashe Sambiri|Controversial political figure Linda Masarira is being roasted on social media platforms after attempting to defend beleaguered Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Mr Mnangagwa addressed an empty auditorium at United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow on Tuesday.
The troubled Zanu PF leader is facing protests in Glasgow with human rights activists calling for his expulsion from the conference.
Masarira wrote on Twitter: “When @HHichilema from Zambia was addressing, it was empty. Zambians aren’t mocking their President about it. We need to take time & introspect as Zimbabweans.
Brand Zimbabwe is more important than the bitterness most Zimbabweans harbour. We only have one Zimbabwe.”
However, angry citizens say Masarira’s attempt to endorse Mnangagwa is futile.
“Mr Mnangagwa is unsellable,” observed one Manners M.
“Sit down Linda, Mnangagwa is doomed,” Marry J commented.
PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday addressed an almost empty auditorium at the Climate Change (COP26) summit in Glasgow, Scotland.
Mnangagwa made his address before empty seats, as did all the leaders who delivered their addresses during the 9am to 1pm slot.
Over 120 heads of State and 25 000 delegates are attending the summit.
As Mnangagwa was addressing, scores of United Kingdom-based Zimbabweans were picketing outside the conference room, denouncing him over the country’s bad human rights record, while others extolled him for his re-engagement efforts in the face of adversity.
This is not the first time Mnangagwa has addressed an empty auditorium. In September 2019, he addressed a near empty 1 800-seater auditorium at the 74th United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York.
It is not customary that State Presidents would address packed auditoriums as many leaders would be following proceedings from other venues or attending other ongoing events elsewhere.
In his address yesterday, Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe was battling the effects of climate change which had resulted in severe droughts and cyclone-induced floods.
“It is most unfortunate that the impact of climate change is disproportionately borne by vulnerable communities that have contributed the least to the current stock of atmospheric carbon,” he said.
“Vulnerable countries must, therefore, be capacitated to mitigate, adapt and build resilience to climate change. The expectation is that the major emitters will scale up mitigation action and show greater interest in adaptation.
“Decisions at this COP26 should strengthen the implementation of current nationally determined contributions.
“It is further imperative that the set emission reduction targets are anchored on supporting, financing and equipping countries to gradually and sustainably migrate from fossil to renewable energy.”
He added: “Notwithstanding that as a country we are ‘a net sink’, I am pleased to highlight that Zimbabwe has revised its nationally determined contributions, a committed conditional 40% per capita greenhouse gas emissions reduction target by 2030.
“Comprehensive strategies are being implemented towards mainstreaming climate change adaptation and resilience across all sectors of our economy.”
Mnangagwa repeated the call for the lifting of sanctions.
Social media users reacted differently to Mnangagwa’s address, with some saying he did not deserve an audience at the climate change summit since his government was contributing to environmental hazards.
Mnangagwa’s government has been widely criticised for approving the construction of houses on wetlands and unsustainable mining activities, particularly by Chinese companies, with detrimental effects to the environment.
Presidential spokesperson George Charamba, posting on his @Jamwanda2 Twitter handle, said there was nothing untoward about the empty auditorium during Mnangagwa’s address.
“Absolute confusion in terms (of) who the audience for UN summits are,” he said.
“The unschooled think the audience is in the immediate auditorium of delivery. Quite sad, embarrassing in fact!!!!”- NewsDay
