A new bill that was recently passed by the Zimbabwean Parliament has raised concerns about freedom of expression.
The bill, known as the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Amendment Bill, criminalizes any citizen who meets with foreign diplomats or officials if the State suspects that sanctions may have been discussed.
The bill also gives the government broad powers to prosecute anyone who is seen as undermining the country or making false statements to paint a negative picture of the country to foreign governments.
Critics of the bill say that it is a draconian attempt to silence dissent and that it will have a chilling effect on freedom of expression in Zimbabwe.
“This bill is a direct attack on our right to free speech,” said Chris Mhike, a media defense lawyer. “It is a clear attempt by the government to silence its critics and to control the flow of information.”
Mhike said that the bill is also unconstitutional because it violates the right to freedom of expression guaranteed by the Zimbabwean Constitution.
“The government has no right to tell us who we can and cannot talk to,” Mhike said. “This bill is a clear violation of our fundamental rights.”
The bill is now set to be debated in the Senate. It is unclear whether the Senate will approve the bill, but if it does, it is likely to face legal challenges.
In the meantime, the bill has already had a chilling effect on freedom of expression in Zimbabwe. Many people are now afraid to speak out against the government or to criticize its policies.
The passage of the Patriot Bill is a worrying development for Zimbabwe. It is a clear sign that the government is becoming increasingly intolerant of dissent. If the bill is not challenged and overturned, it will have a devastating impact on freedom of expression in Zimbabwe.
Former Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara has sensationally claimed that all top Zanu PF officials have acquired title deeds to the farms they grabbed from white former farmers at the height of the land reform programme.
Mutambara made the claims in his latest book, titled “Ideas and Solutions: In Search of the Elusive Zimbabwean Dream.” The book was launched in Bulawayo on Friday.
In the book, Mutambara claims that former President Robert Mugabe had no faith in the land reform programme, and often insinuated that future generations could challenge the process.
“In my book, I also reveal some interesting information,” Mutambara said. “Mugabe did not have faith in the land reform programme. He said to me: ‘Mutambara, this land reform programme will be challenged by future generations.’
“‘Fifty years from now, they will be sitting and saying those guys in the year 2000 parcelled the land among themselves. We were not there, let’s reverse this thing.’ Now, if Mugabe was of that mindset, you know what he did, he does not have a 99-year lease, he bought these farms and he had title deeds,” Mutambara said.
Mutambara said most of Mugabe’s lieutenants in the system had title deeds, adding that the 99-year leases were for some war veterans and low-ranking army officers.
“Any minister, any judge, any commander of consequence is holding onto a title deed,” Mutambara said. “I will explain how it was done. You want to know how it was done during (former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor Gideon) Gono’s tenure, during the burning of cash.
“They would first chase away the farmer from the farm and the farmer will run away, go to Australia, go to New Zealand, go to Harare and live in a shack. They can’t pay fees for their children because they are desperate and they then follow the farmer six months later and ask ‘Mr Farmer, how much is your farm?'” Mutambara claimed.
He said if the farmer would say US$50 million, they would reject the amount and offer to pay about US$4 million and out of desperation, the white farmer would take the amount and release the title deeds to them and keep quiet.
He said the top officials were “burning money” during Gono’s time to raise money to pay the desperate farmers.
“So, these guys are safe under any regime because they are holding on to title deeds,” Mutambara claimed.
He also bemoaned the closing of democratic space in the country ahead of elections.
Speaking at the launch, Citizen Coalition for Change deputy spokesperson Gift Siziba said Mutambara’s book presented solutions to resolve the leadership question in Zimbabwe.
“This book is a reminder to us as young people that this country is not short of ideas, but is short of leadership,” Siziba said. “The greatest challenge that we face 43 years after independence is the deficit of stewardship and leadership, the ability to change the lives of ordinary people,” Siziba said.
The launch was chaired by former State Enterprises and Parastatals minister Gorden Moyo and was attended by former ministers Samuel Sipepa Nkomo, David Coltart, academics, local politicians and civil society representatives.
Mutambara’s claims are a serious allegation that could have far-reaching implications for Zimbabwe. If true, it would mean that the top officials in Zanu PF have benefited personally from the land reform programme, while the country’s economy has continued to decline.
The claims could also damage the reputation of Zanu PF ahead of the upcoming elections. The party is already facing criticism for its handling of the economy and the land reform programme.
Mutambara’s claims are likely to be met with denials from Zanu PF. However, the claims have already been met with support from some opposition parties.
The Citizen Coalition for Change, which is the main opposition party in Zimbabwe, has welcomed Mutambara’s claims. The party has said that the claims are a “reminder” of the need for change in Zimbabwe.
The claims are a serious development that could have a significant impact on Zimbabwe’s future. It remains to be seen whether the claims will be substantiated, but they have already raised serious questions about the government’s handling of the land reform programme.
By-Zanu PF has captured the Apostolic and Zion Churches ahead of the August 23 national polls.
The party’s President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, addressed thousands of members of the two Christian denominations in Harare Sunday, where he said they should vote for Zanu PF. “Under the Second Republic and in the constitution you are guaranteed to freedom of worship. As Zanu PF we can assure you that you will be guaranteed of freedom of worship. Worship brings forth peace in the country,” the President said. The event was attended by several Government officials and displayed the close relationship between the Church and the ruling party Zanu PF. In his speech, the President reiterated his clarion call for peace and unity, saying Zanu PF under his leadership is committed to working with all churches to help promote the ideals. He also urged the congregates to go in their numbers and vote for Zanu PF in the harmonised elections slated for August 23. “The liberation struggle protected our inheritance and birth right. That was the reason we went to war. However, we are now protecting it through voting. That is why we are encouraging everyone to go and vote,” President Mnangagwa said. “As Zanu PF we are committed to work with all the churches. The purpose of the church is to preach peace and we as Zanu PF we love peace. In the coming elections we call upon the nation to be peaceful during campaigns and elections.” President Mnangagwa added that the relationship between the state and the church will remain in order to maintain the peace and unity in the country.
A Chitungwiza Central Hospital doctor is facing disciplinary charges after allegedly attempting to extort US$350 from a parent of a girl who was injured in a road traffic accident on Wednesday.
The accident occurred along the Harare-Masvingo Road when a Mazda T35 truck carrying 22 learners from Karrenboon Farm was hit by a bus. Five people, including four pupils, were killed and 21 others were injured.
Four of the injured pupils were taken to Chitungwiza Central Hospital, where one of them remains in a critical condition.
The doctor, who has not been named, is alleged to have approached the parent of the injured pupil and demanded US$350 in exchange for treating the child. The parent refused to pay the money and reported the doctor to the hospital authorities.
The doctor has been suspended pending the outcome of the disciplinary hearing.
The incident has sparked outrage among the public, who have expressed anger and disgust at the doctor’s behavior.
“It is absolutely appalling that a doctor would try to profit from the suffering of a child,” said one parent. “This doctor should be struck off the medical register.”
ZANU PF Secretary for Health and Child Care, Dr David Parirenyatwa, has condemned the doctor’s actions and has promised that the matter will be dealt with swiftly and decisively.
“This is a very serious matter and we will not tolerate it,” said Dr Parirenyatwa. “We will ensure that the doctor is brought to justice.”
The incident has highlighted the need for greater transparency and accountability in the healthcare sector. It is important that patients are able to trust that doctors will always act in their best interests, and that they will not be exploited or taken advantage of.
A 17-year-old juvenile from Fort Rixon has been arrested for the murder of a drinking mate, while police are searching for three other suspects who are on the run.
The deceased, Readman Ndlovu (46), from Combo village, Fort Rixon, was stabbed to death on May 27 at 10:30pm.
According to Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena, Ndlovu had advised the juvenile not to drink beer because of his age. This led to a misunderstanding, and one of the suspects stabbed Ndlovu in the stomach.
The three other suspects then fled the scene. A report was made to the police, and the juvenile was arrested.
The police are still searching for the three other suspects. Anyone with information about their whereabouts is urged to contact the police.
This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased. We hope that the police will be able to apprehend the three other suspects and bring them to justice.
In addition to the tragic loss of life, this incident also highlights the dangers of underage drinking. Alcohol can impair judgment and lead to violence. It is important for parents and guardians to talk to their children about the dangers of underage drinking and to set a good example by not drinking themselves.
We hope that this incident will serve as a wake-up call to the community and that it will lead to a decrease in underage drinking.

By Collen Kajokoto | I want to borrow your light,
For it comforts me in the night.
I want to borrow your eyes
To see all the beauty you find
Will I ever see more
What other see in Simone?
I want to borrow your lips
Just borrow your taste, just a kiss
And you I won’t miss.
I want to borrow your heart
For mine I so lost in the dark.
My Simone!!
Willingly you offer your light,
But you feel quite lost in my night,
And you offer of me your eyes
But it leaves your vision blind,
Obscure to my brewing troubles.
You melt your taste in my kiss
And now it’s the taste you miss.
You give me your beautiful heart,
I wish to hold it in all without hurt.
Cupid Simone!!
You wait for all to return
But the borrowed is taken and burned,
So lost all your love in my night,
You forget you were holding the light,
But your eyes have a vision so deep
That your heart has no choice but to keep,
So as you burn the truth in the night,
Wings start to lift you in flight.
Adorable Simone!!
See, you give but nothing is taken,
You just lose it in all the forsaken,
But the truth of your love never dies,
It just gives you the dance of the night.
In the night we give love sacrificed
Till we fall, in the empty of sight
Yet the fall is always to find
A love that is never sacrificed.
Affable Simone!!
Each time our love is taken,
Let it grow, never leave it forsaken,
For love always grow, never dies,
But the night has to be sacrificed.
This is the contrast of dark with the light
That gives every wing strength to fly.
We make love, dancing colours to life,
Making rainbows; we rain till we shine.
Raining Simone!!
It has come to our attention that prison officials at Harare Central Prison yesterday denied our leader Jacob Ngarivhume access to food brought by his family. This is a clear violation of his rights.
Not only was he wrongfully convicted by the overzealous Faresi Chakanyuka, but the rogue ZANU PF Government is still determined to destroy him even in prison.
This is a shame. Its unacceptable in a democratic society. We implore the government and prison officials to uphold prisoners’ rights as enshrined in our Constitution.
Relatedly, on 1 June 2023 we expected his bail hearing at the High Court to go ahead only to be told that the presiding judge was allegedly attending a funeral elsewhere. The matter had to be postponed to 6 June 2023. Justice delayed is justice denied. We maintain that our leader has done nothing deserving imprisonment! Demanding an end to corruption is not a criminal offense! We expect his immediate release from this wrongful incarceration!
Let’s continue to stand up and demand justice for Hon Job Sikhala, who has been unjustly detained for 352 days without trial for a crime he did not commit.
This continued persecution of our members is a clear violation of the constitution of Zimbabwe and a reminder that our country is not yet truly free, 43 years after independence.
August 23, 2023, is the optimal time for us to unite and cast our votes in significant numbers to bring an end to this injustice.
Only then can we rightfully claim to be a truly democratic and free nation. #FreeJobSikhala
Al-Ahli Saudi coach Pitso Mosimane has refused to rule out the possibility of joining Kaizer Chiefs, fuelling speculation that he might head to the Soweto giants.
The 58-year-old serial championship winning coach recently guided Al-Ahli Saudi to the Saudi Arabian Pro League but has reportedly gone for five months without being paid.
Several reports in South Africa tipped the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach to replace under-fire Chiefs Authur Zwane, whose future at Naturena is shrouded in uncertainty, after failing to guide the Glamour Boys to the CAF Champions League or Confederation Cup.
While Mosimane admitted there hasn’t been any offer from Chiefs, the former Al Ahly coach did not rule out the possibility of eventually joining Amakhosi.
“I will ask my agent, but he has never told me anything about Kaizer Chiefs,” Mosimane told Gauteng-based South Africa radio station Power FM.
“But anything is possible. I like projects, so if someone gives me a project and has a vision. I also have my say on how things can go from step one, two and three,” added Mosimane.- Soccer24 News

Bere responded by requesting a protective order be issued against her at the Kadoma Civil Court in case P0 116/23.

Gold miming is the new industry that is keeping the country afloat with main beneficiary being what l call the “bank” .
The bank are those that buy Gold from the small scale mines through a long list of mediation or middleman that they themselves will never meet . Because of availability of money lots of cash a lot of antisocial activities take place which are “normal” to the miners themselves but are slowly destroying the environment and society itself .
I will briefly list them then cover the causes and where possible the solution. 1 land degradation Gold is not always there sometimes you hit a dry spell because of different reasons ranging from hitting a barren level at the reef , striking water veins that stops mining itself or sudden collapse of shafts inorder to sustain themselves they start digging alluvial Gold in what is known as rubble or bhalaza found in loose stones this causes serious land degradation because it usually covers vast lands needs no capital just a shovel and a pick . When this happens no official can monitor or stop that because of two reasons first its the “bank “.
Second one this is source of livelihood very sensitive it’s a matter of survival here not just mere talk where else can they go or do to survive. Most claims are in remote areas access is difficult by law enforcement agencies but the damage to the environment is huge including tree cutting. 2 in proper use of PPE The main purpose of PPE is to protect you not for officers proper use of PPE is crucial in the event of an accident.
Helmet is meant to cover the head must be worn all the time and firmly to the head just in case a loose stone falls to your skull or when you fall off on your way into the shaft . Most cases people fall head first and hit the ground with bare head when a loose Helmet has fallen off. Helmet should be tightened all the time . Safety shoes .
Its now a new norm to use safety shoes and worksuits as fashion gear but the whole purpose of safety shoes is to protect toes and feet from any Falling objects , a proper safety shoe must have metal infront for those using gumboots should also use type with metal infront at all times whether hot or cold weather’s.
3 Disused shafts crisis When a shaft is no longer safe for use it must be refilled and Lan rehabilitated which is theory because in reality all the rocks mined would have been transported to another what do you use to refill at whose expense. Such shafts usually have tempting pillars of rocks with visible gold .
Note this is a pillar left to support the shaft but it has tempting gold which cannot be resisted in tough times. Most fatal mine accidents are caused by these and both the mine manager and mine owner won’t be aware of such activities of mining a pillar until disaster strikes and life is lost and mine is suspended.
Child labour crisis. Most activities if not all are done by self employed people no known employer hires people those looking for way of survival employ themselves.
The issue of age is no longer considered because kids ranging from 12 to 17 who drop out of school for different reasons end up employing themselves in this lucrative but dangerous business.
Since they are their noone can prevent child labor either they work at the mine or find a worse source of income in crime ranging from stealing, armed robbery to stock theft . This has no solution unless the ministry of social welfare intervens to solve not arrest . This is coupled with undocumented mine workers with absolute no form of registration from birth certificate upto national ID .
Reasons vary some never applied for an documentation because poverty and lack of knowledge some cases its the father without ID , then kid automatically no registration In worse cases upto grandson . Some cases particulars could have been lost while moving around or burnt in plastic houses . Complex societies .
Since mining is now a source of livelihood people travel around to look for gold and end up building homesteads that complete a village with people from different backgrounds, different tribes , different cultures and norms thereby creating what l call complex societies.
These have have no culture a new culture is developed subconsciously where the bank is the law around . Respect for marriage people marry , dirvoce and remarry in such a short time such that marriage looses absolute value. Plight of the girl child is threatened child are there but rare . What’s common is child sexual exploitation .
The majority know its criminal offense but somehow ignore usually money (bank) is the silent control here .
These complex communities are haven of criminals though they are a small percentage of gold mine infact insignificant proportion but they hide there hiding from offense ranging from murder , robbery ; theft and so on…
As the ruling party prepares for the harmonised elections scheduled for August, Emmerson Mnangagwa will be in Gweru today to oversee activities at the official opening session of an induction workshop for prospective Zanu-PF candidates.
Emmerson Mnangagwa
Numerous party members, including the 210 prospective MPs, arrived in Gweru yesterday evening in preparation for the five-day orientation and induction programme, which begins today.
Senior party officials, all prospective lawmakers, and the women’s quota will be present during the induction workshop, which is also anticipated to be officially launched by President Mnangagwa.
National political commissar Dr. Mike Bimha stated that all was prepared for the high-level meeting following a visit of the workshop location, the 5,000-seat Zanu-PF Conference Centre on the Gweru-Mvuma Highway, yesterday night.
“I have just toured the venue, our party’s Conference Centre along Mvuma Road, and everything is now in place for the official opening of our workshop,” he said.
“The accreditation is still on and we hope that come tomorrow, it will be complete to allow the workshop to kickstart. The President, His Excellency the President, Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa, will officially open the workshop.”
Dr Bimha said the workshop will mainly focus on spelling out the roadmap leading to the harmonised elections at the same time being an induction process for the new aspiring members of Parliament.
“You will realise that we have quite a number of new MPs who are coming for the first time. So, it’s an orientation workshop, basically to prepare our candidates, an induction of what is expected of them ahead of the campaigns,” he said.
Dr Bimha said the revolutionary party was a peace-loving organisation hence the workshop will also emphasise on the need to get into campaigns peacefully as the party prepares its road to a resounding election victory.
Zanu-PF Midlands provincial chairman who is also the Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Senator Larry Mavima, said as the host province they were ready for the event and happy to be the centre for guiding the party towards harmonised elections.
“We’re raring to go and very happy as a province to host this important workshop as we get into the election mode,” he said.
“Zanu-PF is a party of excellence and we are proud as the Midlands to host this important event that will catapult us into the election campaign mode.”
Most of the hotels and lodges in Gweru were already fully booked with some delegates and legislators intending to attend the workshop only securing accommodation in Kwekwe and Zvishavane.
“All the accommodation in Gweru is full and some of our colleagues had to go as far as Zvishavane to get their bookings,” Harare East Constituency aspiring Member of Parliament, Mavis Gumbo said.
Meanwhile, scores of delegates from Matabeleland provinces who were also on their way to Gweru expressed excitement about the meeting given its significance to the campaign period.
Bulawayo Provincial Affairs Minister and Devolution Minister, Judith Ncube, said all candidates from the country’s provinces will attend the week-long meeting to strategise on the party’s campaign plan.
“This is part of our mobilisation strategy. I can’t divulge what the strategy is about but after this meeting, we will have a tactical move in our national campaign towards the harmonised elections, slated for 23 August this year,” said Ncube.
Among the new Zanu-PF candidates for Bulawayo is prominent artiste, Sandra Ndebele-Sibindi, an energetic youthful leader who is expected to be part of the team to lead the restoration of Bulawayo development.
“What is inspiring most about our youthful candidates is that they conscientize youths about their past and future, as well as to drive Vision 2030 that will see the country attaining an upper middle-income economy status,” said Ncube.
She said she was particularly impressed by the manner in which Bulawayo was generating interest in political participation and development.
“We have a lot of surprise candidates. They are full of life, energy and ideas. They are in touch with all generations and are the future of the country.
“They need to rally behind what has been laid down for them by our founding fathers, particularly the ruling party. Look at what we have managed to achieve as a party and developed for the youth. Without this we are lost,” said Ncube.
“We are tired of drugs and abuse. We as a party will rain down upon all perpetrators. The scourge has to be destroyed,” she said.
Minister of State Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Matabeleland North, Richard Moyo said the meeting was expected to provide a basic campaign structure for the election.
“We will talk after the workshop. We are strategizing our campaign, you shall know as time goes on,” said Moyo.
Cholera is an acute diarrhoeal infection caused by ingestion of food or water contaminated with the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. Cholera remains a global threat to public health and an indicator of inequity and lack of social development.
Symptoms Cholera is an extremely virulent disease that can cause severe acute watery diarrhoea. It takes between 12 hours and 5 days for a person to show symptoms after ingesting contaminated food or water (2). Cholera affects both children and adults and can kill within hours if untreated.
Most people infected with V. cholerae do not develop any symptoms, although the bacteria are present in their faeces for 1-10 days after infection and are shed back into the environment, potentially infecting other people.
Among people who develop symptoms, the majority have mild or moderate symptoms, while a minority develop acute watery diarrhoea with severe dehydration. This can lead to death if left untreated.
History During the 19th century, cholera spread across the world from its original reservoir in the Ganges delta in India. Six subsequent pandemics killed millions of people across all continents. The current (seventh) pandemic started in South Asia in 1961, reached Africa in 1971 and the Americas in 1991. Cholera is now endemic in many countries.
Vibrio cholerae strains There are many serogroups of V. cholerae, but only two – O1 and O139 – cause outbreaks. V. cholerae O1 has caused all recent outbreaks. V. cholerae O139 – first identified in Bangladesh in 1992 – caused outbreaks in the past, but recently has only been identified in sporadic cases. It has never been identified outside Asia. There is no difference in the illness caused by the two serogroups.
Epidemiology, risk factors, and disease burden Cholera can be endemic or epidemic. A cholera-endemic area is an area where confirmed cholera cases were detected during the last 3 years with evidence of local transmission (meaning the cases are not imported from elsewhere). A cholera outbreak/epidemic can occur in both endemic countries and in countries where cholera does not regularly occur.
In cholera endemic countries an outbreak can be seasonal or sporadic and represents a greater than expected number of cases. In a country where cholera does not regularly occur, an outbreak is defined by the occurrence of at least 1 confirmed case of cholera with evidence of local transmission in an area where there is not usually cholera.
Cholera transmission is closely linked to inadequate access to clean water and sanitation facilities. Typical at-risk areas include peri-urban slums, and camps for internally displaced persons or refugees, where minimum requirements of clean water and sanitation are not been met.
The consequences of a humanitarian crisis – such as disruption of water and sanitation systems, or the displacement of populations to inadequate and overcrowded camps – can increase the risk of cholera transmission, should the bacteria be present or introduced. Uninfected dead bodies have never been reported as the source of epidemics.
The number of cholera cases reported to WHO has continued to be high over the last few years. During 2020 323 369 cases, 857 deaths were notified from 24 countries 3. The discrepancy between these figures and the estimated burden of the disease is due many cases not being recorded due to limitations in surveillance systems and fear of impact on trade and tourism.
Prevention and control A multifaceted approach is key to control cholera, and to reduce deaths. A combination of surveillance, water, sanitation and hygiene, social mobilisation, treatment, and oral cholera vaccines are used.
MASVINGO – Gutu West CCC aspiring Parliamentary candidate, Ephraim Murudu spent two nights in the cells fromTuesday to Wednesday after he clashed with a Forever Associates Zimbabwe (FAZ) activist at Mbirikira polling station in Soti-Source where he was checking his name in the voters’ roll.

A list of registered Zimbabwean orchards and packing facilities for exporting fresh citrus to China has been made public by the General Administration of Customs of China.
This will significantly improve trade ties between Zimbabwe and China, which has grown to be the country’s main source of foreign direct investment.
The citrus trade protocol was agreed between the governments of Zimbabwe and China last year, and it is intended to make it easier for Zimbabwe to export citrus products to the Asian nation and therefore increase its market share.
This completed the process that was started in 2015 when the nation looked for a market for citrus growers who were small-scale participants in the Shashi irrigation programme.
The Chinese Embassy in Harare published a list of the companies that have been given permission to export fresh citrus fruits on its official Twitter account.
Citrus sinensis (sweet orange), Citrus reticulata (mandarin orange), Citrus paradisi (grapefruit), Citrus limon (lemon) and Citrus aurantifolia (lemon) and Citrus aurantium (sour orange) are among the fresh citrus items to be transported from Zimbabwe to China.
“On June 1, 2023, the General Administration of Customs of China released the list of registered Zimbabwean orchards and packhouses for citrus exporting to China.
“Zimbabwean fresh citrus can now be exported to China, which is the largest market of citrus consumption in the world,” announced the Chinese Embassy.
The approved citrus orchards include Bishopstone Estates, BK Cawood P/L, Nottingham Estate P/L and Luhawde P/L from Beitbridge as well as Barry Warwick PVT Ltd, Broadbridge Investments T/A Mazowe Citrus Estate and Forester Estates from Mazowe.
The other citrus orchards are Harleyton Farm/GMR Eastwood, Roslin Farm/Verdun Services from Beatrice, Home Produce PVT Ltd (Makoni) and Corleinor Pvt Ltd (Zvimba).
Approved citrus packhouses are Bishopstone Estates, BK Cawood P/L, Nottingham Estates P/L all from Matabeleland South, Postwood Investment, Broadbridge Investments t/a Mazoe Citrus Estates (Mashonaland Central) and lastly Mashonaland West’s Corleinor P/L.
The Chinese Embassy said that orchards and packhouses that want to export citrus to China must be registered by Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement and approved by both the Ministry and China Customs(GACC).
“The registration record must be forwarded by MLAWCRR to GACC for approval prior to the export season.”
Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development permanent secretary Dr John Basera said that the release of the list of citrus orchards and packhouses by the GACC marks the successful conclusion of preparations to export into the Chinese Market by Zimbabwean growers.
“Now that the compliance issues have been achieved, all registered growers are eligible to export to China subject to pre-shipment inspections by inspectors from the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development,” he said.
“My ministry will provide support to ensure that the long-awaited citrus exports are achieved in line with engagements being done by the Second Republic that have led to the widening of market access to include China.”
Basera also disclosed that his Ministry is now drafting new export agreements for blueberries, avocados, and chillies with China.
Zimbabwe exported 57 283 tonnes of citrus produce in 2017 to Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Zambia.
Ms. Virginia Dende, a 27-year-old resident of Kadoma, says she is still in disbelief after winning a brand-new Ford Ranger worth US$60,000 in Saturday’s OK Zimbabwe Grand Challenge.
She buys her first car, an expensive new Ford Ranger.
Because she didn’t think she would win any of the items up for grabs, Ms. Dende didn’t even show up for the draw, which was held in front of a large crowd at the Borrowdale Racecourse in Harare. She claimed she was taken aback when OK Zimbabwe called to inform her that she had won the Ford Ranger.
The elated Ms. Dende spoke in an interview with the state media yesterday from her stronghold in Kadoma and said:
000 OK Grand Challenge horse race.
Mashonaland Turf Club vice chairman Mr Scott Buchan said the partnership between them and OK had transcended into more than just a horse race.
“It is more than just a national sporting event and if I may acknowledge OK’s obvious transformation over the last two years, their investment into our sport has grown to be the largest yet, with US$90 000 being put across the races held on the day,” said Mr Buchan.
OK Grand Challenge is the biggest and longest running retail promotion in Zimbabwe, having been launched 1988.
The group skipped the 2020 edition owing to Covid-19.
The group continues to grow its branch network under diverse brands like OK Stores, OK Mart, Bon Marche, and the recently acquired Food Lovers, (all but one separately franchised branch) as well as specialty stores like pharmacies.-state media

Zimbabwe player Benjamin Lock has been named ITF World Tennis Tour Player of the Month after a momentous – and record-breaking – May.
The 30-year-old Harare born player not only won back-to-back professional singles tournaments for the first time, but also claimed the record for the most ITF singles titles by a player from Zimbabwe, reaching double figures ahead of nine-time champion Takanyi Garanganga.
To cap it all, he did so at the first professional tournaments ever held in Ethiopia – in his native Africa – and is projected to rise to a new career-high ranking of No. 348 after Roland Garros.- ZBC News

Murudu who is a war veteran was charged with indecent assault for allegedly touching a FAZ activist’s breasts. Sources however, said this is just a framed-up charge after Murudu refused to give his details to FAZ activists loitering in the inspection center.
FAZ is an unregistered Zanu PF NGO suspected to be a front for rigging elections. Its members in Gutu were recruited from unemployed youth who are receiving allowances of US$400 a month. FAZ reports and operates directly from the offices of the CIO, according to statements made by CCC MP Tendai Biti in Parliament this week.
Murudu failed to appear in court yesterday allegedly because the cop dealing with his case was not at the station. The Mirror understands that he was finally released on Thursday.
Murudu is represented by the Zimbabwe Human Rights Lawyer Omen Mafa. The case is that Murudu went to Mbirikira Primary School to check his name in the voters roll and he refused to give his details to the FAZ members. His name was also allegedly missing from the voters roll…Masvingo Mirror
By-The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has admitted that there were anomalies on the voters’ roll and said they would rectify them before the elections in August. In an interview with Sunday News on Friday, Zec Chief Elections Officer, Mr Utoile Silaigwana likened the voter inspection exercise to an audit where Zec will then take the results of the audit and effect the necessary changes. “We would want to assure the general populace that they need not to press panic buttons at all. All those that are registered, we are assuring them that they will find their names in the voters’ roll come voting day. As Zec we deliberately took the voters’ roll out to the people so that the voters’ themselves, who are the owners of the roll, can do an audit of the voters’ roll, check their names if they are there, if they are correctly spelt, if all their details are there and so forth,” said Mr Silaigwana. He added: “After any audit, if it picks up an anomaly, the anomaly has to be rectified. It is therefore for that reason that we wanted the voters themselves to point out such anomalies so that Zec then corrects them. We are thus now cleaning the voters’ roll, so there must be no fear at all.” Mr Silaigwana said the process was necessary especially after the delimitation exercise where there had been a number of changes in wards, constituencies and transfers of voters. He said political players should desist from using the voters’ roll as a political tool, noting that there was a need for social cohesion and the avoidance of overly sensationalising a process that was clear and guided by the country’s laws. “What we are saying is that the issue of the voters’ roll must not be used as a political tool, for example there are some politicians here in Bulawayo, who went on social media claiming that their names were not on the voters’ roll but when they checked with our offices, they found that all was in order. We especially appeal to the political leaders and opinion leaders that we need not cause alarm and despondency by over sensationalising a purely electoral process, which is administrative and if there are any anomalies they can still be corrected,” said Mr Silaigwana. He reiterated that once they come up with the final voters’ roll that will be used during the elections and the sitting of the nomination court, every candidate that successfully files their papers will be given the voters’ roll free of charge. “Now that the voters’ roll has been closed, Zec will now effect all the corrections, update the voters’ roll so that we come up with a final voters’ roll that is credible and usable for the elections. I must also point out that while we say the voters’ roll closes two days after the proclamation of the election date, voter registration does not stop but those who register after the two days will not be able to participate in this election. Surprisingly, we already have some people coming to us saying we should give them the voters’ roll, but we just finished the inspection. Give us time first so that we update it and come up with the final roll. “By the way all candidates who will successfully file their papers at the nomination court are going to be gifted with the voters’ roll and we have done that for every election,” said Mr Silaigwana. He noted that the members of the public can still check their details on the voters’ role electronically, by dialising *265# on the mobile phone platform. They can also use the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) facility on the Zec website or the physical copy that will be supplied to every candidate. Mr Silaigwana also encouraged potential candidates to immediately start getting their nomination forms and adhering to the set requirements so that come nomination day, they are not found wanting. He said candidates were free to engage Zec officials well before the nomination day so that they were advised on the processes to follow. “In the case of nomination fees, we refer the public to Statutory Instrument 144 of 2022, which sets the fees, for example if you are a serious contender wanting to participate in the Presidential elections, you pay US$20 000 or equivalent in the local currency, using the prevailing rate. “However, regarding the complaints on these fees being high, it’s like the issue of electoral reforms, many people say Zec must do this and that, but people forget that Zec is not a legislator, what Zec can do is to recommend certain legislative reforms, but it is up to the people in parliament to legislate or not to legislate,” said Mr Silaigwana. “The beauty of elections is that everything is in terms of the law, they are not a logical matter, they are a legal matter.” Mr Silaigwana allayed fears of insufficient funding saying they were adequately funded by Treasury for the holding of the elections and do not expect any complications specially with the availability of election material and the holding of the elections in general. “I can assure the nation that Treasury is funding us, there is no shortage of ink or the paper for the ballot paper. I can comfortably say that all is in place, we will not have any shortage of election material; we are ready to conduct these elections. After the nomination courts we will then start the designing, printing of the ballot papers because we will now be knowing all the candidates who are participating. We will also do stakeholder engagement where we will engage everyone, we don’t want an information gap,” he said. Sunday News
By-Over 1 000 Zimbabweans who worked in South African gold mines under the Witwatersrand Native Labour Association (Wenela) are set to benefit from the provisional compensation pool of R5 billion that has been set aside. The number of ex-Wenela workers from this country could, however, double, as the vetting is still underway. The authorities are currently involved in engagements to ensure full operationalisation of the payment process. The workers will receive payments ranging from R10 000 to R500 000 per individual, for contracting silicosis and tuberculosis (TB) from the mines. Tshiamiso Trust, which was set up in 2020 after ex-Wenela workers won a class-action lawsuit in the High Court of South Africa in 2019, is responsible for handling the compensation process. In an interview with this publication, Tshiamiso Trust executive for stakeholder relations and communications Ms Lusanda Jiya said enough money had been set aside for payment to the beneficiaries. “The settling parties agreed to an amount of R5 billion. This amount is uncapped; the settling parties agreed to pay beyond the R5 billion if the trust finds more eligible claimants. “Our database shows that there are over 1 000 potential claimants in Zimbabwe. “We see that there is a possibility of getting more than 1 000 potential claimants, and we are projecting that we might get any figure between 1 500 and 2 000,” said Ms Jiya. “This means the total amount that will be disbursed to Zimbabwe cannot be specified until we get the exact number of those who passed our vetting process. “Once the operational framework is in place, the funds will be disbursed accordingly,” said Ms Jiya. She added that the trust respects each country’s laws, and they are waiting for the greenlight from Government. According to Ms Jiya, each claim will be assessed individually, and the amount a claimant receives depends on the class that he/she is certified for. Other factors that are considered include the period worked at a qualifying mine, the risk level of the work, and severity of the lung impairment due to silicosis or work-related TB. “There are processes that we are following before our full operationalisation of the country payouts this year. “All eligible claimants (living and dependants of the deceased) who lodge a claim will be compensated. Claimants would need to lodge a claim with the trust at one of our lodgement offices. However, in Zimbabwe, we do not have these services pending our negotiations with Government,” she said. The trust is considering workers who were employed by African Rainbow Minerals, Anglo American South Africa, AngloGold Ashanti, Gold Fields, Harmony Gold and Sibanye-Stillwater. The compensation is applicable to employees who carried out risky work at these mines between March 12, 1965 and December 10, 2019, and were diagnosed with silicosis before December 2021 — or those who contracted tuberculosis while working at the mines — or within a year of leaving the mines. As of March this year, Tshiamiso Trust had paid over R1 billion for more than 11 000 claims from ex-workers from other countries such as Malawi, who went to South Africa at the same time as Zimbabweans. Recently, Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Permanent Secretary Mr Simon Masanga said the compensation was long overdue. “This is what ex-Wenela workers have been yearning for. What they need to do is to compile all the necessary documents to prove that they worked for the said companies. “Contractual documents are crucial if they are present, but affidavits cannot be taken as evidence in the process, according to the Tshiamiso Trust representatives who visited the country late last year,” said Mr Masanga. Ex-Wenela Miners Association of Zimbabwe national chairperson Mr Charles Nyawacha said the process is going on well, as Government’s intervention helped to lay the roadmap. “The process, although it seems to be long, is going on well. “Government’s procedure requires Tshiamiso Trust to sign a memorandum of understanding with the National Social Security Authority, and this week, we are having a meeting with Government representatives on the matter,” he said. “Once the process is complete, eligible beneficiaries will start to get their dues.” During the mid-century gold rush, thousands of Zimbabweans migrated to South Africa, where they ended up contracting respiratory diseases such as TB and silicosis as a result of poor ventilation in the mines. -State Media
B-A Zimbabwean man (49) and his 23-year-old pregnant daughter were found dead in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape, which has caused a stir in the community. The police have opened a murder case and inquest docket. The victims ran a bakery together and lived on Hill Street.

By Farai D Hove | Has Joseph Chinotimba joined the Bhora Musango army? The outgoing Buhera South MP has for the second time filmed himself dancing inside his car, contradicting his enemies the incoming ZANU PF candidate Joseph Mudekunye’s expectations that he would be saddened over losing the party seat to the younger politician. Last month Chinotimba came out while bumping up and down inside his small car singing, “kumagumo!,” which means I shall have the last laugh, at the end of the story. Outside context this seems to indicate that the MP has mooted a secret attack against his enemies who are at present celebrating his fall. Chinotimba was still to comment to the allegations at the time of writing. VIDEO

The pardoned rapists have been told to vote for ZANU PF and its President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Kasukuwere made the below comments during a spaces discussion:
It has never been the boy. It has always been the girl child… there are certain crimes that can never be pardoned… if you murder somebody… if you rape… you can’t be pardoned.
— Windhoek Cables Network ???? (@WindhoekCables) June 1, 2023
When the law was made, it was never meant to set aside those types of crimes. Statutory rape should never be pardoned, says @Hon_Kasukuwere
I was personally disturbed by it… Yes, I belong to the Marange (church), but I think we have done away with some of these practices… whoever made that decision, they made a big blunder… how do you release a 65-year-old man who raped a 9-year-old? asks @Hon_Kasukuwere
If it was me, I was going to look for those men and throw them back into prison, says @Hon_Kasukuwere
Imagine the psychological trauma, that girl has not yet been counselled, and now suddenly the same is out of prison…
By A Correspondent| Controversial socialite Susan Mutami resurfaced on social media on Saturday after nearly a year of absence.
Susan Mutami latest pics
Mutami’s last public appearance was in August 2022, when she made a series of damaging allegations against President Emmerson Mnangagwa, including claims of sexual assault.
There were fears that Mutami could have been killed as no one could confirm her whereabouts for several months.
However, she dispelled these rumors on Tuesday when she shared a picture of herself on Twitter with the caption, “proof of life, salibonani” (Shona for “hello”).
Mutami’s resurfacing has sparked a flurry of reactions on social media. Some people have welcomed her back, while others have expressed skepticism about her motives.
“Today is the day of resurrection,” tweeted Alistair Chibanda, “It’s good to have you back online. And I must say you’re looking stronger together with the little man. God speed.”
“Hello Susan, you were greatly missed here,” tweeted Israel Ncube. “We hope you’re doing well.”
“Wadzoka that’s good,” tweeted Only One, a Zimbabwean social media user. “Now wotiudzawo zvakarongwa naana Ed kuti vabirire maelection” (You are back, that’s good, now tell us what ED has planned to rig the elections).
It remains to be seen what Mutami’s plans are now that she has resurfaced on social media.
However, her reappearance is sure to be a major talking point in Zimbabwe in the coming days and weeks.
Anjin Investments (Pvt) Ltd., a Chinese diamond miner, has threatened to fire employees who walk out in opposition to subpar pay and working conditions.
Prosper Munemo, the deputy manager of the mine, wrote the following to the mining, plant and workshop employees on May 31: “I have heard the stance that you took at your meeting with the workers committee in which you pointed out that you are not going to work tomorrow (Thursday). However, everyone working the day shift in the plant, mine, or workshop must report to work tomorrow without fail.
“What you ought to understand is that these are negotiations which take a bit of time to come to a consensus, so as the negotiations are going on, everyone should be at work.
“Failure to go to work will be taken as AWOL (absent without official leave) since you did not follow the right procedure about resorting to a collective job action as laid out in section 104 sub-section (2) of the Labour Act (Chapter 28.01).”
Anhui Foreign Economic Construction Company in China and Matt Bronze Enterprises, a special purpose vehicle owned by the Zimbabwean army, jointly own Anjin.
In the Chiadzwa diamond fields of Manicaland province in Marange communal lands, Anjin Investments is engaged in diamond mining and prospecting.
However, Justice Chinhema, the secretary of the Zimbabwe Diamonds and Allied Minerals Workers Union, urged Anjin management to cease intimidating employees in a letter dated June 1.
Chinhema said that the management of the corporation must act quickly to address employee complaints and carry out the decisions made at a works council meeting on May 11, 2023.
“A properly constituted works council is resolved and there is no other board or structure that can recede or change the resolutions besides the Labour Court. Further, unless the matters listed hereunder are addressed, workers have resolved not to report for duty and will continue with the current collective job action across all departments,” Chinhema wrote.
“The other issues that the workers are demanding to be resolved are poor working environment (safety and health issues), workers are working without proper clean ablution facilities, health facilities including ambulance and medical doctor, working under dusty conditions without suitable and adequate protective clothing.”
Chinhema added: “The general working conditions are deplorable and we need to bring to your attention that workers are employed to work and after working, they expect to get paid a living salary so as to bring food to their families, pay school fees, medical bills for them and extended families, buy clothes and enjoy life for someone employed by a diamond mining company.
“The ball is in your hands and if your management continues to ignore, workers are happy to continue with their industrial action. We wait to hear from you before the situation at the mine degenerates into chaos.”
A former cabinet minister Professor Jonathan Moyo has urged Dr Thokozani Khupe to step aside for Professor Mthuli Ncube in the upcoming parliamentary election in Cowdray Park.
Posting on Twitter, Moyo said Dr Khupe is a “beloved figure” in the region, but that Mthuli Ncube is the best person to represent the area in Parliament.
“Dr Khupe has done a lot for the people of Cowdray Park, but she has been in Parliament for 20 years and has not been able to achieve all that she set out to do,” the minister said. “Professor Ncube is a fresh face with new ideas, and he has the experience and the connections to get things done.”
Moyo also said that Dr Khupe would be better off using her experience to support Professor Ncube in his campaign.
“Dr Khupe could play a key role in Professor Ncube’s campaign,” the minister said. “She could help him to connect with the people of Cowdray Park and to get their support.”
Dr Khupe has not yet announced whether she will stand for re-election in Cowdray Park. However, she has said that she is committed to serving the people of the region.
“I will continue to fight for the rights of the people of Cowdray Park,” Dr Khupe said. “I will never give up on them.”
The election in Cowdray Park is expected to be closely contested. Dr Khupe is facing a challenge from Mthuli Ncube, as well as from several independent candidates.
The election will be held on August 23, 2023.
CHIREDZI -The Shangani people of Chiredzi including their chief are against an alleged proposal to change the name of Chambuta Refugee Camp to Auxillia Mnangagwa Children’s Home.
Sources said that the first Lady Auxillia will be in Chiredzi this Saturday for the ceremony and is expected to change the name.
Chief Chilonga, born Tiyani Chilonga confirmed the first lady is coming on Saturday, but complained about the proposed change to The Mirror. He described it as an adulteration of history adding that his people are comfortable with the current name. He detested the fact that Government was always imposing changes on his people.
Chiredzi District Development Coordinator (DDC), Lovemore Chisema repeatedly said that he was in a meeting. Sources said the proposal to change the name is coming from the First Lady and the reasons for the proposed change are that she has been sourcing resources for the home for over three years.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has concluded his three-day State visit to Malawi, with the two heads of state describing the state visit as a huge success.
It has been a busy three days for the two heads of state from the time President Mnangagwa arrived in Lilongwe on Wednesday.
The three days were comprised of not just business meetings, but visits to significant places like the Mausoleum where the remains of former Malawian President Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda are interred as well as the Malawi Parliament.
The two Presidents rounded up the visit in Blantyre where they issued a joint media briefing at Sanjika Palace.
President Chakwera expressed his joy for the successful state visit.
“Words are insufficient to express the joy I feel during this visit. In the 3 days, he has been to 4 regions of our country… He did all. This in a short space of time.”
On his part, President Mnangagwa expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome.
He took the opportunity to remind African citizens of their responsibilities to build their economies.
“It is a mistake to admire nations built by their own people. You must build yours,” he said.
Earlier, President Mnangagwa visited Mount Soche, one of the areas affected by Cyclone Freddy in Malawi’s city of Blantyre.
The President handed over a consignment of goods to the affected people and highlighted the strong bond developing between the two countries and the spirit of Ubuntu.
Having spent the first two days of his visit in Lilongwe, this Friday President Mnangagwa went to Blantyre and his first port of call was Mount Soche where over 200 people lost their lives during Cyclone Freddy.
President Lazarus Chakwera showed him the areas that were hit by the cyclone at the foot of Mount Soche.
Some in the area are currently housed in makeshift houses.
After viewing the damage, President Mnangagwa handed over a consignment of goods to assist those affected by the cyclone.
The goods included cement, groceries and kitchen utensils amongst other basic necessities.
President Mnangagwa said the region needs to do more to mitigate the effects of climate change and said as Zimbabwe they hope Malawi can restore what was damaged and return to their way of life.
“I managed to see Mount Soche where huge rocks fell during the cyclone. I was saying to my brother these incidents continue to affect us due to climate change. We were affected by Idai, but it was not as severe as Freddy. We need to look for strategies to deal with these disasters.”
President Mnangagwa said in bad and good times, African nations will stand together.
President Chakwera says Malawi will be forever grateful for this unprecedented level of support in their time of need in Zimbabwe.
“Let me express my deep gratitude from the people of Malawi to President Mnangagwa. This level of generosity is unmatched,” he said.
From Soche, President Mnangagwa and his counterpart visited the Mboma tea factory.

Stare Media – In a departure from the custom of holding elections on weekends, Emmerson Mnangagwa chose to hold this year’s harmonised elections midweek on Wednesday, August 23. By doing so, he ensured that all registered voters, including those from various religious groups, had the opportunity to cast their ballots.
It is said that members of several religious sects formerly found it challenging to participate due of conflicting schedules, especially when election dates coincided on Saturdays or Sundays.
On June 21, 2023, the Nomination Court will convene.
Ziyambi Ziyambi, Minister of Justice, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs, claimed in an interview with the state media that the President selected a day that would be practical for all eligible voters.
“His Excellency, the President has shifted the election date, which traditionally fell on weekends, to a midweek date.
“The main reason is that on Fridays, we have some members of Apostolic sects who go to church, and on Saturdays, we have some churches such as the Seventh Day Adventist Church that strictly observe the Sabbath, as well as some Apostolic sects that also go to church,” said Minister Ziyambi.
“Then on Sundays, we have other religious groups that also go to church.
“This is why his Excellency decided that we should have the elections on a day when no one will be going to church, hence he decided that we have elections during a weekday.”
Election preparations had begun in earnest, Minister Ziyambi said, with Parliament suspending automatic adjournment times to clear outstanding business in order to ensure parliamentarians seeking re-election have adequate time to campaign.
“As Parliament, we are also rushing to finalise business of this current session. Hence, we had suspended the automatic adjournment times and we were working late into the night so that we clear the Government business that is before Parliament.
“I am glad that the majority of the Bills are out of the way,” he said.
“We will be finishing them and allowing our MPs to go out to campaign . . .”
Although the country will not be able to use some provisions in the Electoral Amendment Bill, particularly after last week’s proclamation, most of the amendments were already provided for in the country’s supreme law.
“When the President proclaims an election date, we cannot change any electoral laws.
“So, effectively, we are not going to pass the Electoral Amendment Bill that is before Parliament,” he said.
“However, the majority of amendments in the Bill are actually covered under the Constitution and in the current Act.
“For example, the women’s quota that we extended, it was already provided for in our laws, and we were already applying it since 2013. The youth quota provision is there in the Constitution,” he said.
“So, we have everything that we need, even if we do not pass the current Bill that is before Parliament.
“There are sufficient legal provisions to ensure that we proceed with elections without affecting any democratic processes.”
Provincial and metropolitan councils will also be included in this year’s harmonised elections, with Government set to enact legislation that enables the councils to function.
The country’s electoral laws, he added, compare favourably with those in the region and provide a framework for free and fair polls.
Political analyst Mr Methuseli Moyo, a lecturer at the National University of Science and Technology, said the move to hold the harmonised elections midweek respects people’s right to worship.
“It is very good that President Mnangagwa chose a working day.
“This affords those who worship on Saturdays and Sundays the opportunity to cast their votes.
“Religion is a serious aspect of human life and must be respected,” he said.
CCC’s Tendai Biti has pointed out that Zanu PF is unwilling to implement reforms before polls.
Biti has also accused the Zanu PF regime of playing hide and seek with citizens.

Terrence Dzvukamanja has revealed that he wants to stay at Orlando Pirates for another season.
The Zimbabwean striker’s contract is set to expire at the end of June.
The 29-year-old was set to leave the club in search of regular game time as he pushed for an exit in the January transfer window but the club blocked the move.
However, following his return to top form in the second half of the campaign, the situation has changed, with the player now hoping to remain at the club.
“I don’t know. I can’t put anything in if they come [and give me a contract I will be happy], but hence I’m saying that you can speak with my agent (Mike Makaab). He is the one who will say ‘this is what’s on the table,” Dzvukamanja said, as cited by the SowetanLive.
“If there is something good or not, I will take it from there. Obviously, [I want to stay] every player wants to play for this team and there is the CAF Champions League also and everyone wishes to play for this team.”
Since Dzvukamanja started getting some game time in the second half of the campaign, he managed to score eight goals in 18 matches, including Saturday’s winning goal against Sekhukhune United that gave Bucs the Nedbank Cup on a 2-1 victory.- Soccer24 News

By Dr. Masimba Mavaza | The United Nations Convention contains a philosophy of national sovereignty. This implies that every state is the same, regardless of its economic situation. No matter its size or power, a nation must be able to govern itself without outside influence.
The United Nations works to maintain international law, which was broken when sovereignty was breached. American exceptionalism, on the other hand, is the practise of setting norms for others while exempting oneself from those rules. This is an exemption that it has given itself. America ratifies conventions and demands that other countries do the same. America, meanwhile, ruthlessly enforces international laws while refusing to do anything to uphold the same laws in its own country.
We will never forget that although America supports the international court of justice, they chose not to join. America is not obligated by it because it did not agree to it. The ideology of exceptionalism, according to which America enforced laws from which they were exempt. Do as I say, not as I do is essentially what American exceptionalism is saying. The American embassy in Zimbabwe tweeted a billboard about the elections in Zimbabwe that claimed to be encouraging peace but included people waving two fingers in support of the CCC opposition party.
Only when you feel that your state’s interests are being violated will another state interject. However, they are handled democratically. You reach a decision using democratic procedures. Governments are not changed; instead, deplomagic relations and protocols should be terminated. By meddling with the election, America intends to change Zimbabwe’s leadership. In the event that friends disagree, we won’t incite your kids to rebel against their own father.
The internal affairs of a sovereign state are being interfered with by America by tweeting a billboard about the elections in Zimbabwe. The actions taken by America are anti-democratic, diabolical, and brutal. This emphasises disdain. They won’t comment on elections in any other nation besides Africa; they won’t do it in Europe or Japan. Why is it done in Africa? because they were able to enslave them in their own regions after releasing them from their own.
They liberated the slaves from America and thought they ought to use them as slaves in their own countries. America chooses the rulers and refers to this as serving American interests abroad. This is how people in the West refer to American slaves abroad. who is enthusiastic about Washington. They want Zimbabwe to be in this circumstance.
Americans are acting in this way because they think Zimbabwe is of interest to them. Similar to house arrest, this is. Although we are free, we are imprisoned in our homes and countries. There is a superpower that is interfering with our sovereign actions. Comparing independent nations to Anglo-Saxon nations is absurd. This only occurs in Africa; it never occurs in India or Pakistan. Africans actually did not experience freedom; therefore, we do not appear to be free, which is why America has no shame and disrespectfully twitted that poster. This story is about sanctions that appear to be intended to promote democracy. They were working to reform the government. Now that they are disrespectful, all of their actions revolve around changing the government.
The situation at CCC is dire. It will not be placed in the voting booth. America is represented at the voting booth. You will be voting for America if you cast a CCC ballot. They desire to have control over the new administration. How are we going to get away from them. They might stabilise things, produce a few jobs, and turn us into content slaves. They will give Zimbabwe 4 billion but take away 300 billion. They will invest ten billion and flee with trillions in the long run. They are interfering with the case phrases and associating with them. meddling with Zimbabwe’s affairs. It is appropriate to formally challenge the American ambassador. We need a statement from our foreign affairs minister. This should not be tolerated any longer because it is against diplomatic procedure.
Interfering in the internal affairs of a sovereign state is undoubtedly wrong. We should consider not interfering with a sovereign state, which America is definitely doing. The embassy must follow specific rules of conduct. Insofar as they go beyond domestic concerns, diplomats represent American transcended interests. It transcends national interest. If someone feels they have been treated unfairly, we should address this according to diplomatic protocol. The role of opposition activists by diplomats is forbidden. Election-related matters are private and should not be influenced. Standing on a prominent platform is simple when America is abusing other nations. They charge RSA with providing Russia with weaponry. How on earth can a nation sell arms to a superpower. America is a blatant bully meddling in Zimbabwe’s internal affairs. We have long maintained that the installation of puppets is directly related to American sanctions. We have always claimed that the CCC and its forerunners are American puppets. Things are coming to light now that everyone is aware that America beats a dog while concealing the stick.
In the Masvingo magistrates court, there is a tale about one particular attorney. He would use cannabis while using the loo to build up his bravery. He would therefore smoke while using the loo and then go outside to see if anyone was approaching. He will eventually get so high that he will smoke outside before going inside to check things out. America once smoked inside the bathroom while looking outside. They are currently smoking marijuana outside while using the loo. America nowadays has no shame. It no longer conceals, therefore it plays pranks by Twitt. The way Americans treat black people has a longer history. While you are in your own country, America enslaves you. This is not how America would conduct itself towards a European nation. Americans prescribe to others who they should do business with while trading with rogue nations. They are unable to tweet from any country. That Zimbabwean poster was disrespectful by tweeting. the Tune is being called by a very obvious party The CCC won’t be casting a vote. The American government and its Western Allies will be seen where people encounter the CCC. Real parties, not proxies, must be chosen. America, or any other nation, has no right to meddle in Zimbabwe’s elections. Choosing who should be elected and who should be removed from office is wrong. How democratic is it for a man to choose who represents us in Thsolotso and Chikwaka in America? America is claiming that black people are not human while it promotes democratic concepts and imposes laws on Africans. Interfering with Zimbabwe’s election is rude and a cowardly act. Without interference from the American Embassy’s Twitts, which are used to disrupt Zimbabwe’s peace and tranquilly, Zimbabwe must be allowed to conduct its own elections. We reject foreign meddling because it is evil, extremely gloomy, and astonishing.

By-At least 15 prisoners who were released under the Presidential amnesty last month have been re-arrested.
The 15 have been rearrested for offences including murder and armed robbery.
Last month, 4 270 prisoners countrywide were allowed to go home after their sentences were reduced. President Mnangagwa issued the clemency order to de-congest national prisons and promote better living conditions. The inmates were released following a meticulous process of verifying potential beneficiaries. In an interview yesterday, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that a total of 15 had been rearrested countrywide. “They were arrested for offences such as theft, unlawful entry and theft, stock theft, armed robbery and murder,” he said. Of the 15, one was arrested in Harare for murder, two in Matabeleland South for armed robbery and one in Mashonaland West Province for stock theft. The rest were arrested for theft and unlawful entry. Some of them have been convicted while others still have their cases pending before the courts. A Harare man who recently benefited from the Presidential clemency is back behind bars after being sentenced to an effective one-year jail term for stealing blankets, an inverter and phones from a house in Borrowdale, Harare. Brian James (23) was convicted of unlawful entry charges on his own plea of guilty by Harare magistrate Mrs Ethel Rutendo Chichera. Initially, Mrs Chichera sentenced the unrepentant James to 15 months in jail, but suspended three months on condition of good behaviour. The State proved that on May 21 at around 10.45am, Ms Amanda Nkobwe left home going to church, leaving all windows closed and doors locked. Ms Nkobwe left the keys on the lower part of the roof, where she usually left them, just in case her house-mates returned home earlier. James confirmed to the court that he used the keys to unlock the doors after seeing Ms Nkobwe placing them on the roof. As soon as Ms Nkobwe had left for church, James went to the house and took the keys from the roof, unlocked the door and entered the house. He then stole a Huawei cellphone, an Itel cellphone, an inverter and two blankets. Herald
By- The Emmerson Mnangagwa-led Government is planning to enact laws against the use of foreign currencies to ensure that Zimbabweans embrace the Zimbabwe dollar.
In an interview with the Third Eye and Brick By Brick magazines this week, Mnangagwa ruled out dollarisation, saying there was no turning back to using other countries’ currencies.
He said the multi-currency system was adopted to deal with hyperinflation but there is no country that can develop without its own currency. Said Mnangagwa.
What we might do is legislate against foreign currency to make sure we use our own currency.
Our people must know that our currency is there to stay but foreign currencies of other countries are not there to stay.
Calls for full dollarisation have been amplified in recent weeks following the precipitous devaluation of the Zimbabwe dollar on both the formal and informal market.
The majority of businesses, especially those in the informal sector, are no longer accepting Zimbabwe dollars, instead insisting on foreign currency.
This has resulted in trade unions demanding USD salaries and wages for workers to make ends meet.
IN a horrifying case of family violence, two innocent children were stoned to death along with their 81-year-old grandfather at Mhari Village in Bikita last Saturday.
The children, aged two and five years, were ordered to lie on top of a grave by their mother, Modina Mavhunga (28) and struck on the head with stones until they died.
Modina murdered her kids just after she teamed up with her brother, Clever Mavhunga, 35, to assault their father, Anisto Mavhunga, to death.
National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said Modina and Clever have been arrested.
“Police in Masvingo arrested Clever Mavhunga and Modina Mavhunga in connection with murders which occurred on Saturday at Mhari Village in Bikita,” said Ass-Comm Nyathi.
“The suspects took turns to indiscriminately assault their father aged 81 with sticks all over the body after accusing him of practicing witchcraft.
“After the incident, Modina took her two daughters aged 2 and 5, to the family graveyard where she ordered them to lie on top of a grave before hitting them with stones on their heads until they died on the spot,” he said.
Meanwhile, Police in Ngundu are investigating a case of murder which occurred on Saturday in a bushy area near Ngundu Business Centre.
The suspects, Fredrick Shamba, 36, and Nyenyesai Tevera, tied the victim with a rope before assaulting him with switches all over the body until he died.
They accused him of stealing Nyenyesai’s money.
Ass-Comm Nyathi said police arrested Fredrick, while Nyenyesai Tevera is on the run.
TWO Harare men appeared in court yesterday for allegedly defrauding CABS Bank of $8 187 878.
Elijah Mugidho (51) and Patrick Nyamusangodza (40) were granted $200 000 bail each and had their case remanded to July 4 by magistrate Dennis Mangosi.
The court heard that Mugidho was employed as an executive kitchen chef by CABS, while Nyamusangodza is the director of Mbeko’s Cleaners, a company which supplied cleaning materials to the bank.
Allegations are that between 2019 and 2020, the two connived to steal from CABS after Mugidho created purchase orders which Nyamusangodza would use to generate fake invoices to demand payment although the company would not have supplied cleaning materials to the bank.
The alleged scam was exposed by the bank’s finance department, leading to the duo’s arrest.
Police have expressed concern over cases of kidnapping in which schoolchildren are being targeted.
This comes after two pupils aged 11 and 12 were kidnapped in separate incidents in Harare and Chinhoyi recently.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Police are investigating the cases. He said:
The ZRP is concerned with cases of kidnapping in which learners are being targeted.
Police in Harare are investigating a case of kidnapping in which a Grade Six pupil aged 11 was kidnapped while going to school by four unknown suspects who were travelling in a black Toyota Noah on Monday at around 6.30 AM in Glen View.
The victim was later dumped along 13th Avenue in Glen View 3.
In another case of kidnapping, a 12-year-old Grade Seven learner was abducted in Chinhoyi on Tuesday.
The victim was kidnapped near Chengetanai Old People’s Home by three unknown suspects travelling in a white kombi. The victim was later dumped in Avlon Park.
In March this year, a 12-year-old girl was abducted while she was looking for transport near a primary school in Eastlea, Harare.
Three unknown assailants in a blue Toyota Hiace were involved in the kidnapping.
The girl managed to escape from the three men after they had parked the vehicle in the Hillside area and hid in a nearby maize field.
Here are some tips parents and guardians can teach their children to avoid being kidnapped:
Stay away from strangers.
Stay away from anyone who is following you on foot or in a car.
Run and scream if someone tries to force you to go somewhere with them or tries to push you into a car.
Memorize a secret code word. Tell your child not to go with anyone under any circumstances unless that person also knows this code word.
You don’t need to help an adult. For example, a child shouldn’t trust grown-ups who ask kids for directions or for help finding a puppy or kitten.
Always ask for permission before going anywhere with anybody.

Addressing the gathering, Mutambara said Bona’s divorce court case opened a can of worms after it came out that she owned several properties.
“If Bona Mugabe has 21 farms, how about her father? You should ask yourself how many farms does the late President Robert Mugabe and his other two sons have?” Mutambara said.
“How many do you think the Vice-President and other ministers have?”
According to court records, Bona and her estranged husband, Simba Chikore own vast swathes of land in prime residential areas in Harare, 21 farms, an US$8 million mansion in Dubai and a fleet of luxury cars.
Zanu-PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa dismissed the allegations.
Police in Kwekwe have arrested a nine-member gang of armed robbers who are linked to a spate of unlawful entry and robbery cases in and around Kwekwe.
The nine-member gang targeted mines, which they robbed of gold carbons and other mining equipment during the period extending from December 2022 to May 2023.
So far, the gang has cleared about 16 cases of unlawful entry, theft, robbery and investigations are still ongoing. Pride Kunze (26), Elijah Majarure (26), Obvious Kunze (25), Everthough Chigodo (29), Theymore Mafudza (25), Tobias Mangisi (30), Tapiwa Ncube (35), Owen Chigoya (52) and Alexio Chipatiso (21) were rounded up by police while aboard a Honda Fit vehicle at Bluetech Service Station.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the development saying the gang was arrested following a tipoff.
“The suspects raided mines on separate occasions armed with a 303 rifle. They robbed their victims of mostly gold carbons and other valuables with a total value of US$60 956-00,” said Inspector Mahoko.
Their arrest led to the recovery of the rifle, magazine with six rounds, 200kgs pregnant gold carbon, solar panels, generator, two water pumps and various cellphones.
Some of the victims have since positively identified their property. Some of the mines that were raided include Golden Zone, Moss 24, Tristan South B, LC Investments, Small Nest, Moss 8, Tritan, W and E Mining Syndicate, Moss 19, Magamba, Mos 11 and Rothamstead, among others. Police applauded the public for a job well done. “We appreciate the spirit of working partnership between the public and the police which led to the arrest of the suspects,” he said.
Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) governor John Mangudya yesterday claimed that past experiences, rather than basic economic issues, were to blame for the country’s exchange rate volatility, as he ruled out dollarisation.
Over the past few weeks, the southern African nation has been experiencing severe exchange rate volatilities, prompting people to call for full dollarisation.
But in his address to delegates attending the Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe (CoMZ) annual conference in Victoria Falls, the central bank chief ruled out dollarisation, arguing the country does not have capacity to dollarise.
“Thirty percent of our deposits in this country are Zimbabwe dollars, 70% is US dollars. That’s the composition of our deposits in this country. But when you see the rate moving because of the Zimbabwe dollar, that’s because of the self-fulfilling negative inflation expectations,” he said.
“There is the hysterical scenario or otherwise the once beaten, twice shy scenario, whereby people were beaten before by hyperinflation in 2008 and were beaten also in 2019 when we came up with new currency reforms. Human beings are rational.
“So, because human beings are rational, they always think about the negative of whatever they would have seen. So, what they do whenever they get excess of the local currency, they try to go and buy foreign currency in the parallel market. The demand for foreign currency in a dual currency system is unlimited.”
He continued: “It’s only limited to the extent of the foreign currency which you are carrying because you want to convert it. That’s what’s happening. It’s not an economic fundamental challenge. It’s a behaviour which is based on past experiences.
“So, I am saying to colleagues, let’s believe in ourselves that we’ve worked very hard in the mining sector. We don’t want to throw the baby away with the bath water. We’ve worked very hard as a country to get where we are today.”
Mangudya begged Zimbabweans to embrace the local currency, saying it was the only way the country could develop.
“Let’s be resolute to maintain that to go forward. The only country that we have is this country. My message is that the country cannot sustain itself by using other people’s foreign currency. So, you need to embrace our own. That’s what it means. That 30% should not drive the other 70%, they should co-exist properly without manipulation,” he said.
With the introduction of the African Continental Free Trade Area, Mangudya said it was going to be difficult for local companies to compete when the country dollarises.
“This year up to the 30th of April, 70% of the exports came from mining. So, you are consistently performing well. The foreign currency belongs to the exporter because 75% of the money belongs to the export.
“I have read that many people are confused that we can now dollarise because of these funds. These funds aren’t ours. You can’t take it from Zimplats or Unki or Mimosa’s accounts and then we go and dollarise the economy. We have no capacity to dollarise because the money in the banks is not ours.
“It belongs to the exporters so that they can export more. Now people are always confused that this US$11 billion is ours, no it’s not ours,” he said.
He said the largest exporting companies in the country were Zimplats, Unki and Mimosa, followed by gold companies.
“The numbers don’t lie. If you can measure it, you can manage it. Ours is 25% which is supposed to go through the rest of the economy. That’s what we use for auction, for reserves and for paying debts. That’s what it is,” he added.
Zanu-PF Churu constituency candidate, Ephraim Fundukwa, has hit the ground running after rolling out several projects in the area in line with President Mnangagwa’s clarion call of leaving no one and no place behind.
More than 5 000 women in Ushewokunze and Southlea Park received free range chicks donated by Fundukwa yesterday. At least 12 500 chicks were donated to women as part of empowering them.
The poultry scheme is set to increase their income and alleviate poverty through commercialising urban poultry production, and each group of 10 women in the area was handed 100 chicks.
Addressing thousands of women at a rally in Southlea Park and Ushewokunze areas in Harare yesterday, Fundukwa, who is also Zanu-PF Harare provincial vice chairman, said the free range poultry scheme is set to provide a new revenue stream for women in urban centres.
“We have handed over 12 500 chicks in ward 1 and 6 for women empowerment projects. We are fulfilling President Mnangagwa’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind. President Mnangagwa wants everyone to benefit from the party’s policies which are people centred,” he said.
The rally was also attended by Harare Provincial Political Commissar Kudakwashe Damson. Damson urged women to vote in their numbers for the ruling party candidates from councillors to the President.
“We want a resounding victory in the coming elections. What we want to assure the electorate is that more projects are coming. The party is looking into the welfare of the people, despite some economic saboteurs who are inflating prices as a way of sabotaging Government efforts,” he said.
Damson said women should apply their knowledge of rearing indigenous poultry, popularly known as road runners, which will later be sold leaving the people economically empowered.
Fundukwa also donated school uniforms and is paying fees for a number of under privileged students in his constituency
He encouraged women to take up poultry farming seriously to upgrade their living standards.
The electorate, Fundukwa said, should vote for President Mnangagwa for urban renewal which is currently at the centre of Zanu-PF’s policies. The elections, to be held on August 23, offer the electorate an opportunity to boot out incompetent and often corrupt opposition councillors from the cities.
Over the past two decades, when the opposition has been running cities, service delivery has ground to a halt — roads are potholed, garbage goes uncollected while the city fathers line their pockets with loot from council coffers.
The deplorable situation in urban areas has often seen central Government stepping-in to rescue the urbanites — through construction of dams to end water woes, and rehabilitating roads in fulfilment of President Mnangagwa’s pledge to initiate development that leaves no one and no place behind.
President Mnangagwa has already issued title deeds in Epworth with more expected for urban dwellers.
Government has also built new water sources — such as Kunzvi Dam that is already under construction and is expected to end Harare’s perennial water woes — and several development projects across the country in line with the devolution agenda which is being financed to the tune of $40 billion this year.
Police in Bulawayo are investigating a hit-and-run road traffic accident that occurred last week on Wednesday and claimed a man’s life.
Posting on its official Twitter handle, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP)said the incident happened at around 9.30PM along Robert Mugabe Road between 5th and 6th Avenue. The deceased is yet-to-be-identified and is suspected to be aged about 30-35 and died on the spot after being hit by an unknown motorist.
“The victim was wearing black trousers, a blue work suit jacket and navy-blue Puma tennis. Anyone with information to report at any nearest Police Station,” said the police.
Such incidents have been rampant lately with the police expressing concern. In December, police initiated a manhunt for at least 20 motorists who were engaged in hit-and-run incidents before fleeing the scene without helping the people they ran over.
Johnson and Johnson baby powder containing taic has been banned with immediate effect by the Ministry of Health and Child Care due to the ingredient’s propensity to cause cancer.
Health inspectors were instructed to destroy or return any Johnson & Johnson baby powder goods they found in local markets by Air Commodore Dr. Jasper Chimedza, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Child Care.
This development follows news that Johnson and Johnson, an American multinational corporation, had assumed the responsibility of paying US$8.9 billion to the medical industry in compensation for claims that the company’s baby powder was contributing to cancer on April 18, 2023, according to Consumer News and Business Channel (CNBC).
It also comes at a time when the company was facing over 40 000 lawsuits in the US alleging that baby powder contaminated with asbestos caused ovarian cancer or mesothelioma. But Johnson & Johnson did not attribute the switch to that controversy, calling it a “commercial decision” that “will help simplify our product offerings, deliver sustainable innovation, and meet the needs of our consumers, customers, and evolving global trends.”
“Corn starch based Johnson’s Baby Powder is already sold in countries around the world,” the company said in a statement announcing the change. “Our position on the safety of our cosmetic talc remains unchanged,” the statement continued.
“Research by the American Academy of Paediatrics unearthed that the taic used in the production of the baby powder was highly toxic due to contamination with carcinogen asbestos,” said Dr Chimedza in a directive published on May 24, 2023.
Dr Chimedza also said countries such as Tanzania, through its Tanzania Bureau of Standards had on April 19, 2023, also moved to ban the importation, distribution and sale of Johnson and Johnson baby powder containing the taic ingredient.
Permanent secretary noted that Johnson and Johnson baby powder is still popular in South Africa and given the “significant importation of health products by Zimbabwe” from the neighbouring country there was a possibility the product could find its way into the country.
“There is a high risk that contaminated baby powder could still be finding its way into the Zimbabwe market,” said Dr Chimedza

The poor run has left Dembare in eighth place on the Castle Lager Premiership table.
“The Human Capital Committee meets after every five games to review the performance of the team, said Maunganidze as quoted by the Herald. “Today (yesterday), the committee went at length discussing the poor showing by the team in May.
“We failed to win any match and obviously, the committee had to set some conditions as a way forward.”
The chairman added: “It was resolved that the team should win the next two games without fail or the technical team will be restructured.”

By-Zanu PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa said he could meet with the main opposition leader, Nelson Chamisa.
Mnangagwa said Chamisa and all opposition political party leaders should feel free to approach him and should not use proxies, the media and third parties.
President Mnangagwa, who has kept an open door policy to all Zimbabweans, has established the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) platform where he regularly interacts with all opposition political parties. In an interview with the Third Eye and Brick By Brick magazines this week, President Mnangagwa said all opposition leaders should not seek dialogue outside conventional means as that was not the hallmark of true leadership. “He (Chamisa) goes to the press to want to talk to me, if you want to talk to me, come to me not the press. I will not reply to statements in the press. A solid leader knows what to do if you want to talk to a colleague.” Turning to the use of the Zimbabwe dollar, President Mnangagwa said there was no turning back as using other countries’ currencies had crippled the economy before in the early 2000s. He said the Government would put in place measures that would see increased confidence and strengthening of the local currency. “The sanctions succeeded in destroying our Zimbabwean currency. You needed to carry $2 billion to buy bread, and that was not feasible so that’s when we abandoned our currency and allowed multiple currencies to apply and that stabilised our situation but there is no country that can develop without its own currency. “So we’ve reached a stage where we must have our own currency that is under serious attack but we will never abandon it. What we might do is to legislate against foreign currency to make sure we use our own currency,” he said. President Mnangagwa said the use of the Zimbabwe dollar as legal tender was irreversible adding that the country was not only politically independent but also economically independent. “Our people must know that our currency is there to stay but foreign currencies of other countries are not there to stay. Initially, we got political independence in 1980 but thereafter 1990 we assumed full independence because the Lancaster constitution expired and we are independent both in terms of politics and our resources, no one gives us directions in terms of what we must do with our resources,” he said. Meanwhile, Zanu PF along with several other global political parties have rallied behind Russia in its quest to end the United States dollar’s hegemony. Speaking during a virtual meeting of the Organising Committee of the Forum of Supporters Against Modern Practices of Neo-colonialism, the ruling party’s Secretary for External Relations, Cde Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, who was representing the national Chairman Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, said the stance had been necessitated by the need to put an end to imperialism. “When we gathered not so long ago in our inaugural constituent session, we set out on a journey, seeking to checkmate contemporary forms of imperialism and colonialism which are threatening international security including that of the Russian Federation. “I am confident that the issues we are addressing in the forthcoming constituent Forum of Supporters Against Modern Practices scheduled for October cover a wide range of challenges confronting the rest of the world due to the nefarious activities and machinations of imperial forces. “We must therefore make a deliberate and strategic decision as members of the international community to ensure that we will play a larger and long-term role in shaping international affairs, now and in the future in close partnership. After all, all our countries have a profound interest in the emergence of a peaceful and prosperous international community,” said Cde Mumbengegwi. Speaking at the same meeting, the Chairman of the United Russia Party, Cde Dmitry Medvedev, said there was need to counter colonial forces. “Colonialism in its new form is becoming a challenge for many countries and the false rhetoric about human rights by the United States is causing great harm,” he said. Cde Henrique Fontana of the Labour Party of Brazil said it was imperative that nations join and unite against neo-colonialism. “Society now understands the neo-liberal consequences and so there is a need for a real productive engagement,” he said. Representatives from Indonesia, Venezuela, South Africa, Mozambique, Myanmar, Pakistan and Nicaragua, among others, called for a world balance of power and reaffirmed their support to Russia.
By- A Chigodora’s Manicalnd province bedridden and a year-long wheelchaired elderly woman has died before her ex-lover could reverse the sex lock spell (runyoka) he allegedly cast on her for ending their affair.
Last week on Saturday, Gogo Maundu appeared before Headman Chigodora’s court pleading for the traditional court’s assistance in reversing the curse. She accused Edmund Maziwei of ‘fixing’ her through runyoka when she terminated their relationship. Headman Chigodora confirmed Gogo Maundu’s death. He also said Maziwei vehemently denied casting a spell on Gogo Maundu when they appeared before his court. “Gogo Maundu passed away last week on Saturday night after she had appeared before my court on Saturday afternoon. She was suffering from runyoka but Maziwei denied being behind it. They . In fact, Maziwei vehemently denied ever being in a relationship with Gogo Maundu. For that reason, he said he was not in a position to perform any ritual to set Gogo Maundu free from the spell. “I had to force Maziwei him to conduct the ritual but unfortunately Gogo Maundu passed on before it could be done,” said Headman Chigodora. During her court appearance, Gogo Maundu insisted that Maziwei had the remedy to her ailment. She said she dated the married Maziwei for a year and later decided to end their relationship. “I dated him for a year from 2021 to 2022. He would come and see me at my house since he is married. I later realised that our relationship was not working and terminated it. “He didn’t want to let go and threatened me with unknown consequences. I started felling unwell but I never thought he could be behind the ailment. “I went from one hospital to the other trying to find cure for my ailment, all in vain. My children took me for X-rays, all to no avail. The doctors could not establish what was wrong with me,” she said. Gogo Maundu then consulted traditional healers and was told that Maziwei was behind her ailment. She was told that only her ex-lover could heal her by immersing his belt in water and giving her that water to drink it. “I visited three spiritual healers and three prophets. They said Maziwei put runyoka on me. This is why I cannot walk now and I am struggling with my health. “I want to be healed and I am prepared to appease him because my health is deteriorating with each passing day,” said Gogo Maundu. She also said she even sent her grandchildren as emissaries to Maziwei, but they came back empty-handed. “I have sent my grandchildren thrice to engage Maziwei, but he is not budging. He does not want to help me. He is enjoying my suffering. “I know it was wrong to date a married man, but the punishment is unbearable,” she said. Manica Post
By-United States President Joe Biden tripped on a sandbag on Thursday and fell on stage at the Air Force Academy in Colorado.
Biden (80), had delivered the commencement address to graduates of the military academy, had just shaken hands with a cadet and had begun walking back to his seat when he fell.
He landed on his right hip before lifting himself up on his right hand, according to CNN.
A group of men, including an official with the Air Force Academy and two Secret Service agents, helped him back to his feet.
As he got back up, Biden pointed back toward the ground where he tripped, indicating he stumbled on something.
He returned to his seat in the stands without assistance and appeared in good spirits as the ceremony concluded.
Biden had spent more than 90 minutes handing out diplomas and congratulating hundreds of cadets.
Biden is the United States of America’s oldest president and is running for a second term in 2024. He’s had previous stumbles in public.
Despite those incidents, Biden’s doctor has said is physically fit to serve in office

By- The Emmerson Mnangagwa-led Government may enact laws against the use of foreign currencies to ensure that Zimbabweans embrace the Zimbabwe dollar.
In an interview with the Third Eye and Brick By Brick magazines this week, Mnangagwa ruled out dollarisation, saying there was no turning back to using other countries’ currencies.

Calls for full dollarisation have been amplified in recent weeks following the precipitous devaluation of the Zimbabwe dollar on both the formal and informal market.

This has resulted in trade unions demanding USD salaries and wages for workers to make ends meet.
By-The Parliament of Zimbabwe has passed a law that criminalises criticising the government.
The Criminal Law Codification and Reform Amendment Bill (Criminal Code) contains a clause often called Patriotic Act.
The clause criminalises “wilfully damaging the sovereignty and national interest of Zimbabwe.”
According to the Legal think tank Veritas, Clause 2 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Amendment Bill, inserted a new section into the Code, creating the crime of “wilfully damaging the sovereignty and national interest of Zimbabwe”. Said Veritas:
The crime will be committed by a citizen or permanent resident of Zimbabwe who takes an active part in a meeting involving or convened by an agent of a foreign government, if the citizen or resident knows or has reason to believe that the object of the meeting is:
to consider or plan armed intervention in Zimbabwe by the foreign government, or
to subvert or overthrow the constitutional Zimbabwean government, or
to consider, implement or extend sanctions or a trade boycott against Zimbabwe, or against an individual or official if the sanctions or boycott affect a substantial section of the people of Zimbabwe.
Penalties for the crime differ according to the object of the meeting:
if the object of the meeting is to consider or plan armed intervention, the penalty for participating in it is the same as for treason, namely the death sentence or imprisonment for life,
if the object of the meeting is to subvert or overthrow the government, the penalty for participating in it is the same as for subverting constitutional government, namely imprisonment for up to 20 years, and
if the meeting is about sanctions or a trade boycott, the penalty for participating in it is a fine of up to Z$200 000 or imprisonment for up to 10 years or both. And in addition, if the crime is committed in aggravating circumstances (i.e. if sanctions were implemented as a result of the meeting or if a non-binding advisory was issued with the same effect as sanctions, or if the convicted person made a false statement during the meeting) and if the prosecutor so requests, the court may impose any of the following penalties:
deprivation of citizenship, if the convicted person is a citizen by registration or a dual citizen,
cancellation of residence rights, if the convicted person is a permanent resident of Zimbabwe,
prohibition from being registered as a voter or from voting, for a period between five and 15 years, or
prohibition from holding public office for a period between five and 15 years.

After unfreezing the bank accounts of the implicated GOLDMAFIA crooks, Zimbabwe’s governor of the central bank, Dr. John Mangudya, has urged people to use the local currency saying forex is needed for critical needs such as electricity.
While the Government has permitted the use of foreign currency in conjunction with the local dollar as an official medium of exchange, at least through 2025, with the ultimate goal being a full return to the Zim-dollar system, some economic players are aggressively pushing for full dollarization citing the local currency’s declining value as a store of value.
Mafia accounts unfrozen…announcement
Although Treasury acknowledges that the dual currency system is a helpful transitional solution for the economy, it openly said that the long-term goal is to de-dollarize.
In the midst of this situation, speculative market forces have been utilising the window to fuel exchange rate volatility on parallel markets, which has caused price inflation and a decline in consumer purchasing power.
Dr. Mangudya stated during a seminar hosted by the Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe that Zimbabwe has roughly US$2,4 billion in deposits, half of which is retained as liquid assets by banking institutions for their exporters’, primarily mining industries’, clients to use as funding.
Contrary to the widespread belief that the government earns enough foreign currency to be able to dollarize, he claimed that more than 70% of the nation’s exports came from the mining industry and that the money earned does not belong to Treasury.
His remarks came in response to worries expressed by conference attendees that the Government was withholding foreign currency for the importation of energy, among other difficulties the mining sector was facing. This is in light of worries that power company Zesa is having trouble importing electricity due to a paucity of foreign cash, among other issues. The difficulty is hindering productivity in the mining industry, which needs roughly 2000MW.
Dr. Mangudya claimed that the mining industry was boosting the economy because it had given the industrial sector a boost and given new life to several businesses whose locations had been used as churches for a while.
He argued that it was odd that a nation that cannot import energy because it lacks foreign cash would wish to dollarize its economy. According to him, a small group of people and exporters want to dollarize the economy and abandon the use of many currencies.
“Because you are consistently exporting, people say we can now dollarise. This money is not ours — it belongs to the exporter,” said Dr Mangudya.
“It means that we have no capacity to dollarise because already we have a shortage.”
The RBZ Governor said the best solution was for citizens to have confidence in their own local currency. The Government has always expressed concern over citizens’ lack of confidence in the local currency and has chided businesses and individuals that inflate prices of goods in local currency as a desperate way to discourage local dollar usage.
As such, Dr Mangudya said there was a need for stakeholders to fully embrace the local currency for local purchases and spare foreign currency for importation of electricity and other critical services.
“The country has no sufficient foreign currency to dollarise. As you heard Zesa cannot import enough electricity because there is no foreign currency,” he said. “What it means is that what people are asking for, we have no capacity to dollarise. We have more than US$2,4 billion in our deposits and of those deposits, US$1,4 billion is in banks as liquidity for them to fund their customers,” said the Governor.
“That money belongs to few people and companies that are the largest exporters. Most of the money belongs to the mining sector so it means me and you we don’t have foreign currency.
“So, people who want to dollarise are individuals but we don’t have capacity and what it means is that we need to embrace our local currency for local purchases so we reserve foreign currency for imports,” said Dr Mangudya.
He said there is a need for more robust discussions on the way forward as a country, noting that the demand in the economy for electricity shows lack of capacity to import enough power, and appealed to citizens to understand that numbers do not lie.
He said the market clearing exchange rates only focus on clearing foreign payments and not domestic payments hence there is rampant duplication of resources for local payments and foreign payments.

PSG head coach Christophe Galtier has confirmed Lionel Messi will leave the club at the end of this season.
The Argentine superstar’s contract will expire in June and he won’t renew it after turning down a new offer.
In a statement today, Galtier said: “I had a privilege of coaching the best player in the history of football. It will be Leo’s last match at the Parc des Princes against Clermont.”
The Parisian side will host Clermont for the final game of their domestic season on Saturday night.
Messi’s former club Barcelona are among the sides looking to sign the player on a free transfer.
However, the Spanish giants will have to balance their financial books first before they can re-sign him.
Barca are banned from entering the transfer market in the next window unless they raise £178million from selling current players.
American MLS club Inter Miami, which is owned by David Beckham, also approached Messi for a possible deal but it was not considered.
There has also been reports that the player has received a mega offer of $234m-per-season from Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal.- Soccer24 News

This was said by CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa.

“2023 is a year we will end hunger, anger.Everyone is hungry in Zimbabwe.Everyone is angry in Zimbabwe.
We want a transparent voters roll before polls. We will reject a shoddy and dubious voters roll. All the same we will not boycott polls, how can we abandon our own process ?
We know FAZ is intimidating citizens in rural areas. FAZ sinister operations must stop with immediate effect.”
CCC’s Tendai Biti has pointed out that Zanu PF is unwilling to implement reforms before polls.
Biti has also accused the Zanu PF regime of playing hide and seek with citizens.
The tough-talking politician also dencounced Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s shadowy FAZ.
” What is this creature called FAZ? There is political interference in Zimbabwe s election delivery system by a shadowy group known as #FAZ .We recognize & respect Security Forces set up in Chapter 11 of the Constitution, namely the Army,Police,Prisons & the Intelligence Services. #FAZ is not a constitutional body,” Biti wrote on Twitter.
He also dismissed the Patriotic Bill.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has accused opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa of demanding dialogue through the media saying if he genuinely wants to talk he knows what to do.
In an interview with a Zanu PF aligned Third Eye, Mnangagwa said he will not reply to statements made in the press.
“He (Chamisa) goes to the press to want to talk to me, if you want to talk to me, come to me not the press. I will not reply to statements in the press. A solid leader knows what to do if you want to talk to a colleague.”
Turning to the use of the Zimbabwe dollar, President Mnangagwa said there was no turning back as using other countries’ currencies had crippled the economy before in the early 2000s.
HARARE – The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) said on Thursday that the Patriotic law is “unclear, ambiguous, imprecise and likely to be misused by the law enforcement”.
Zanu PF Wednesday invoked its parliamentary majority to muscle through, the controversial Criminal Law Amendment Bill – better known as the Patriotic Bill – which seeks to impose death, at the very extreme, on citizens “willfully damaging the sovereignty and national interest of Zimbabwe”.
The law, fiercely opposed by the opposition, sailed through with a 99 affirmative vote while 17 opposed it.
Among its gamut of punishable offences, the law criminalises active participation by citizens in meetings inside and outside Zimbabwe on issues of military intervention, subverting, upsetting, overthrowing or overturning the constitutional government, or on economic sanctions and trade boycotts.
The law seeks to punish any person who engages foreign governments’ officials or embassies without prior government authorisation amid strong fears this could endanger the works of journalism.
“The law does not define sovereignty and national interest, which could be broadly and subjectively interpreted to criminalise the lawful conduct of those expressing their freedom of expression,” the lawyers’ group said.
The law also applies to actions done outside Zimbabwe, meaning one could be charged in Zimbabwe for allegedly committing the crimes abroad.
ZLHR added, “We are deeply concerned about the harsh penalties for deliberately injuring the sovereignty and national interest of Zimbabwe, which include the death penalty, long imprisonment, loss of citizenship, ban from registering or voting as a voter for at least five years”.
ZLHR said that the death penalty in the law violates section 48 of the national constitution, which only allows capital punishment for murder in aggravating circumstances.
The government claims that there is nothing wrong with the law, and compares it to the Logan Act in the United States, which forbids unauthorised American citizens from negotiating with foreign governments that have a dispute with the United States.
Only two people have ever been charged with violating the Logan Act, one in 1802 and the other in 1852. Neither was found guilty.
University of Zimbabwe (UZ) lecturers have declared incapacitation, joining a growing list of workers in the private and public sectors pushing for United States dollar salaries.
In a letter addressed to the Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare ministry, the Association of University Teachers (AUT), which represents the interests of academic staff at universities, said UZ lecturers were now failing to make ends meet.
“To illustrate the situation, as of October 2018, a junior lecturer’s monthly salary was US$2 258, (“pre-October 2018 salary scales”) …,” the letter read in part.
“By September 2022, the situation had reached unconscionable levels of a salary worth less than US$200 for a junior lecturer. Such a salary was lower than the lowest paid general worker in the private sector.”
They further indicated: “By the commencement of 2023, the situation had sharply deteriorated. The deductions for normal services like medical aid, pension, funeral policies and motor vehicle insurance were now more than the salary.
“In fact, staff was now earning what the university termed ‘negative salaries’. Deductions deducted were more than the salary.”
AUT said the lecturers could no longer afford to come to work, feed their families and meet other normal expenses such as school fees, medical bills and rent.
According to AUT, they have been trying to engage Higher and Tertiary Education minister Amon Murwira over their plight without success.
“The minister was not sympathetic and disclaimed responsibility for the welfare of employees of State universities,” AUT said.
“He categorically stated that the responsible authorities and employers were the university councils and not the government.
“He stated that the government only provided a grant to assist the universities, which were expected to come up with their own other independent means of self-funding.”
Murwira could not be reached for comment.

US President Joe Biden has tripped and fallen while handing out diplomas at a graduation ceremony for the US Air Force Academy in Colorado.
Mr Biden, who is the nation’s oldest serving president at 80, was helped back up to his feet and appeared to be unhurt.
The president had been standing for about an hour and a half to shake hands with each of the 921 graduating cadets.
The White House communications director said earlier “he’s fine”.
“There was a sandbag on stage while he was shaking hands,” Ben LaBolt wrote on Twitter after Thursday’s fall.
“I got sandbagged,” the smiling president joked to reporters as he arrived back at the White House that evening.
A White House press pool report earlier said Mr Biden had tripped on a black sandbag while moving on stage.
Footage of the incident shows Mr Biden appearing to point at one of two sandbags used to prop up his teleprompter as he was helped up by an Air Force official and two members of his Secret Service detail.
He was seen walking back to his seat unassisted and later jogging back to his motorcade when the ceremony ended shortly after the accident.
The pool reporter added that the president did not take questions when he returned to his plane.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Mr Biden was feeling “totally fine” and had boarded the plane flashing “a big smile”.
Critics have said Mr Biden is too old to run for a second term as president.
Recent polls suggest a majority of US voters are concerned about his advanced age. He would be 82 at the start of a second term if he wins.
This fall, in addition to previous stumbles from his bicycle and on the way up the Air Force One stairs, could add to those concerns.
Former President Donald Trump, the Republican frontrunner to face Mr Biden in the 2024 White House election, reacted to the incident from a campaign event in Iowa, saying “the whole thing is crazy”.
“I hope he wasn’t hurt,” said Mr Trump, 76, who has often poked fun at Mr Biden’s age. “That’s not inspiring.”
“You got to be careful about that because you don’t – you don’t want that. Even if you have to tip toe down the ramp,” added Mr Trump, apparently referring to his own careful walk off a stage that made headlines in 2020.
He said at the time that the ramp at the US Military Academy in West Point, New York, was slippery, and brushed aside the ensuing media questions about his own health as fake news.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, another 2024 contender for the Republican nomination, also reacted to the fall during a campaign event in New Hampshire: “We hope and wish Joe Biden a swift recovery from any injuries he may have sustained.
“But we also wish the United States of America a swift recovery from the injuries it has sustained because of Joe Biden and his policies.”
Mr Biden’s last physical examination took place in February.
White House physician Dr Kevin O’Connor wrote at the time: “The President remains fit for duty, and fully executes all of his responsibilities without any exemptions or accommodations.”
Dr O’Connor added that Mr Biden walks with a “stiffened gait”, largely caused by wear and tear on his spine and nerve damage in his feet, but that his condition was unchanged from a previous physical in November 2021.
Mr Biden is hardly the first commander-in-chief to lose his footing in front of the cameras.
President Barack Obama tripped walking up stairs at a 2012 event, while President Gerald Ford fell down the stairs of Air Force One in 1975.
By-Zanu PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa said he was free to meet with the main opposition leader, Nelson Chamisa.
THE Premier Soccer League has made a sensational somersault after confirming that Bata Stadium will host PSL matches with the match day 12 fixture between Sheasham and Herentals scheduled for Gweru.
This comes after an uproar over the PSL’s decision to force Sheasham to use Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane even though Bata Stadium had been approved by the ZIFA First Instance Board.
The PSL was subsequently accused of overstepping its jurisdiction and ill-treating the new boys, who failed to fulfil their week 10 fixture against CAPS United at Mandava, owing to financial challenges.
The PSL has since confirmed through the match day 12 fixture list that action will return to Gweru this weekend when Sheasham host Herentals at Bata Stadium on Saturday.
Action, however, kicks off on Friday as Simba Bhora seek their fourth win in six matches when they battle Triangle at the National Sports Stadium.
On Saturday Cranborne Bullets battle CAPS United at the National Sports Stadium, while Chicken Inn will be up against bottom placed, Black Rhinos at Luveve Stadium in Bulawayo.
Meanwhile, troubled Bulawayo Chiefs have declared war against Highlanders when the city rivals clash in a low-key derby penciled for Sunday at Barbourfields Stadium.
Chiefs have been excellent on the field of play, but industrial action has been the order of the day off the pitch with players constantly demanding their unpaid dues.
Bulawayo Chiefs are undefeated since overcoming Dynamos 3-2 in April, while Highlanders last collected a set of three points after their home tie to Hwange six matches ago.
Chiefs are ready to add more misery to Bosso whose strikers have been firing blanks.
“Highlanders are our big brothers, but unfortunately at this level we need three points. As Bulawayo Chiefs we are ready for Sunday’s game and we want to be there in numbers as we kill another giant,” said Bulawayo Chiefs Supporters Association Spokesperson, Prosper Phiri.
On the other side Highlanders fans are hopeful of a change of fortune.
“Of late we have been drawing, but being a city derby we expect to rediscover the form. We are desperate for a win. Yes we occupy a good position on the log, but we have been dropping points something worrying everyone associated with the club,” said a fan.
“Bulawayo Chiefs are not push overs. They have had a good form, but we are hopeful we will overcome come Sunday,” noted another.
In other matches set for Sunday, a battle of the teacher and student is on the cards as Norman Mapeza’s FC Platinum visit Rodwell Dhlakama’s Green Fuel at Gibbo Stadium.
Dynamos take on ZPC Kariba at the National Sports Stadium as Hwange return to the Colliery for a date against Manica Diamonds.
Match Day 12 action concludes on Monday when Yadah welcome log leaders Ngezi Platinum to the National Sports Stadium.- ZBC News

By A Correspondent| The National Social Security Authority (NSSA) general manager Arthur Manase has reported online publication News Hawks senior journalists to the police for cyber bullying.
Manase says News Hawks has soiled his image with false information and in the process dragging President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s name into unverified reports.
He says two news articles under the headlines “Mnangagwa in spotlight over the massive Nssa corruption” and “Suspended Nssa boss mired in US$353 000 luxury cars scandal” which were published by News Hawks and written by Gagare and Mpofu were defamatory and acts of Cyber bullying, alleging he was on suspension on corruption related allegations yet no such thing exists.
In a letter to Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga, Manase through his lawyer Admire Rubaya, is seeking the two to be investigated for violating the Data Protection Act by publishing falsehoods. “It is our client’s view that the statement that the newspaper article which The News Hawks Newspaper published is false and defamatory. . .
“If the Newspaper had done its investigation well, it would have discovered that:Our client has never been suspended from NSSA, no corruption charges have never been preferred against our client.”
Our client has never received benefits beyond what is provided in his employment contract in his capacity as the General Manager including the vehicle loan which was properly signed for by then Board Chairman – Mr Clifford Matorera and the Honourable Minister Professor Paul Mavima, the current Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare,” the letter reads.
Manase believes the News Hawks is being used to whip public emotions and ask the police to investigate how they got hold of an un released report which is still in the president’s office.
“The intentional nature of their conduct stems from the fact that the reported articles are purportedly based on a draft forensic report which is currently with the Office of the President and Cabinet of Zimbabwe (hereinafter “the OPC”), which report has not yet been made public.
“In fact, it is our client’s assertion that the News Hawks Newspaper and its correspondents need to be taken to account for how they are in possession of a report which is currently privy to OPC alone.
“The allegations are not only unfounded and malicious, but they are also meant to pre-empt the release of the report, shape public opinion against our client, harass and psychologically bully him and destroy any prospect for his employment and economic wellbein,” the letter reads.
It is Manase’s argument that the News Hawks is being used by another faction within Nssa, being two directors who are currently on bail for criminal offences.
He avers that the News Hawks is pushing the agenda of the two and dragging the president’s name in a bid to force him to act and also soiling the public service minister’s name in the process.
“It is within the public domain that Newshawks has aligned with a faction in NSSA fronted by two Directors, said to be personal friends of the Editor who are currently on bail on fraud charges.
“Our client’s continued stay at NSSA has been construed as militating against the interests of these two and the NewsHawks Newspapers is being used as part of their strategy to destroy our client and the Honourable Minister Professor Mavima who is also seen as a stumbling block to their agenda.
“The name of his Excellency the President is being abused and smuggled into the articles by Newshawks as a way of pressuring him to Act according to their agenda,” the letter reads.
In his report to the police, Manase calls for an investigation into the conduct of the two journalists.
“. . . we urge you to consider Section 164B, 164C of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act [Chapter 9:23] as amended by the Cyber and Data Protection Act [Chapter 12:07] to investigate The News Hawks Newspaper, and in particular, its two correspondents namely Owen Gagare and Bernard Mpofu, whom we assert have committed offences relating to Cyberbullying, harassment and transmission of false data messages intending to cause harm,” the letter reads.
By-Pretoria High Court is still to pass its judgement on the case of over 180 000 Zimbabweans living in that country with Zimbabwean Exemption Permits, with the Lawyers representing Zimbabweans saying they would appeal if the court rules in favour of the Government.
ZEPHA legal counsel, Advocate Simba Chitando, is seeking the court to grant ZEP holders permanent residence in South Africa.
ZEP expires on 30 June 2023, but there are no indications as to when the Pretoria High Court will deliver its ruling on the application by ZEPHA and other human rights organisations, such as the Helen Suzman Foundation (HSF).
HSF has argued that the decision by South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs to terminate the ZEP scheme without proper public consultation is unlawful and wants the court to set aside the directive.
Asked on SABC News what the plan was if the court rules in favour of the South African Government, Chitando said:
The litigation has been brought not just by the Helen Suzman Foundation but also by several other parties.
If successful in that litigation… we will wait for the relief and the relief will give us direction about what will happen to the ZEP holders.
Some of the parties that have instituted the litigation sought permanent residence… which is what the institution I am representing is seeking while the Suzman Foundation wants the Government to reconsider their decision.
Either way, we are bound by the court decision and we do not know when it will take place.
If we are successful… the Government would have to take a decision on whether they are going to appeal the judgement and obviously if we are unsuccessful I can guarantee you that we would appeal the judgement that is not in favour of ZEP holders.
The Zimbabwe Exemption Permit (ZEP) system was introduced more than a decade ago to regularise the status of Zimbabweans who were illegally in SA due to political and economic hardships at home.
The Department of Home Affairs last year announced that the ZEP system would be terminated in June 2023, by which time ZEP holders would have to apply for “regular” SA visas.
Several Lesotho nationals living and working under the so-called Lesotho Exemption Permit have likewise been told that their services are no longer required.
