Caps United Sack Six Players

Caps United have terminated the contracts of six senior players, who led a revolt on Sunday.

The Green Machine’s game against Cranborne Bullets was almost called off after the Harare giants’ players refused to play in the match.

The players were protesting over low salaries and unpaid bonuses, and did not meet at the team hotel, but grouped at a different location.

They only arrived at the National Sports Stadium with private vehicles thirty minutes after the scheduled kick-off and did not hold a warm-up session.

United went on to lose the encounter 2-0 courtesy of a brace from Brian Muzondiwa.

The club hierarchy has now fired six stars, whom they believed caused the chaos.

The sacked players are Devon Chafa, Denis Dauda, Clive Augusto, Ronald Chitiyo and Rodwell Chinyengetere.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Bosso, Chicken Inn Share Spoils

Highlanders coach Mandla Mpofu and his Chicken Inn counterpart Joey Antipas expressed their concerns over how the officials who handled their game on Sunday.

The two teams met in the Bulawayo Derby and played to a 1-1 draw.

Bosso opened the scoring through Godfrey Makaruse, who tapped home in the 21st minute.

Brian Muza then cancelled out the lead in the 76th minute as the game ended in a stalemate.

Speaking after the match, Mpofu was not convinced by the referee’s performance.

“These are big games which need big match officials. The free-kick given to Chicken Inn was a soft one and it led to a goal,” the Bosso gaffer said.

Antipas echoed the same sentiments and blamed the referee for failing to control the players.

He said: “I thought the referee could have controlled the game better by flashing cards to culprits that were hitting each other.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

NetOne Employees Still Missing After Vehicle Swept Away By River

CHIREDZI – Two drums of fuel and one oil have been recovered as two Netone workers whose car got swept off Chilonga Bridge in Chiredzi this morning are still missing.

The submerged vehicle was also spotted this afternoon and a Malilangwe plane that flew over the area could not bring back any report on the missing persons.
Efforts to get a comment from Netone were fruitless. Masvingo Police Spokesman Kudakwashe Dhewa is away at the Trade Fair.

The Mirror is told that the workers were coming from refueling a generator at a mobile phone base station in Chikombedzi. An eyewitness said that the vehicle was swept away just as its front wheels got into the bridge.

Government’s delay to construct a bridge over Runde, one of the country’s largest rivers has seen dozens of people drowning each year at the flat bridge.

“ When I saw the car I thought maybe the driver wanted to wash it and I was surprised to see him trying to drive through.

The vehicle was immediately swept away,” said the canoe operator .
Ironically a Police Sub Aqua team is expected tomorrow barely a month after they lost a member at the same point.

Yesterday, ZCTU in Southern region held workers’ day celebrations in Mufakose Grounds ,Triangle in Chiredzi.

The workers day was held when Zimbabwe workers are earning peanuts whilst the prices of goods and services skyrocket.

Mr Makumbe in Chiredzi said, “Yesterday’s workers day was a moment to reflect on workers suffering. The Government of Zimbabwe and many companies are evil as they have failed to pay workers adequate salaries.”

Speaking at ZCTU workers celebrations in Triangle yesterday, the ZCTU Chairperson for Chiredzi District Mr Moses Chivange said, “Our hearts bleed because the lowest paid worker in Tongaat earns $3000 rtgs per month. This money cannot meet the needs of the workers. Prices of goods and services are increasing daily. On the other hand, rtgs money is losing value daily due to inflation. Therefore, we urge Tongaat and other companies to pay workers in us$. “

This was supported by ZCTU Southern Region head Kudzi who said, “The Zimbabwean worker has become a laughing stock due to poor salaries. We as ZCTU urge employers to pay workers us$ salaries and not rtgs.”

In Zimbabwe, prices of bread, fuel, rentals and schools fees are increasing daily beyond reach of many. However, salaries are still very low, Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe Dr. Takavafira Zhou said, majority of teachers cannot send their children to school because teachers earn around $18 000 rtgs whereas school fees are pegged beyond
$18 000rtgs.

Most schools in Zimbabwe are charging fees in us$ or from
$45 000 rtgs to $2million rtgs per term. For example, St. George College is charging $2million rtgs for this term, which starts today.

Yesterday, at ZCTU Chiredzi workers day celebrations, interim Citizens Coalition for Change Masvingo provincial youth secretary and Chiredzi urban ward 18 councillor Mr Gilbert Mutubuki said, “As Citizens Coalition for Change under able leadership of President Chamisa, we value and respect Zimbabwe workers. Zimbabwe workers deserve best treatment in terms of salaries, protective clothing, freedom of association and better lives.” Councillor Mtubuki’s sentiments were echoed by President Chamisa’s yesterday’s message to workers , when he called the government of Zimbabwe to urgently pay workers decent salaries in us$.

Yesterday, President Chamisa attended ZCTU workers day celebrations in Harare.

Councillor Mtubuki further implores the workers to register to vote. He urged workers to vote for the party that cares for the workers. In Harare, Citizens Coalition for Change vice president Tendai Biti who gave solidarity speech behalf of CCC at ZCTU main celebrations said, Zimbabwe workers must be paid in us$ and urged workers to register to vote. In addition, vice president Biti, calls for peaceful elections and urged workers to register to vote in 2023.

ZEC Wants Twitter And Facebook Help To Rig Polls

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) wants Twitter and Facebook to pull down “damaging posts” about its handling of elections.
The election management body also wants Parliament to regulate election-related material posted on social media ahead of the 2023 elections.

Zec’s credibility is in tatters following the March 26 by-elections after data experts unearthed irregularities in the voters roll, including changes to 156 polling stations while 177 000 voters were relocated from their polling stations without their knowledge.

Zec later disowned the voters roll saying it was tampered with to discredit the elections body.

Spokesperson Jasper Mangwana said: “We are trying to just follow what other countries are doing to ensure that towards an election there is no misinformation and disinformation which may cause instability and violence.

“Those who post incorrect information will be asked to pull it down because we noted that there is a lot of false information peddled online. The commission would have a proper way to ensure that there is no (bad) information which would have implications on free and credible elections.”

Mangwana’s statement immediately attracted brickbats from the opposition with Citizens Coalition for Change interim spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere, saying it is undemocratic and unconstitutional.

“Instead of stifling constitutional freedoms we expect Zec to be championing the electoral reform agenda, pushing for amendments to the Electoral Act to ensure that its work is fully facilitated and the law is aligned to the Constitution,” Mahere said.

Mahere cited sections 68 and 209 of the Constitution, which mandates Zec to be accountable to citizens, and “to act in a manner that is lawful, reasonable and fair”.

“We don’t expect them to be silencing citizens. In fact, Zec is acting in a partisan and unconstitutional manner which doesn’t want to see free and fair elections. It must act lawfully and reasonably or it should be disbanded,” she said.

MDC-T chairoerson Mogern Komichi said Parliament should not be used to rubber stamp oppressive laws to manipulate social media.

“Zec is trying to close the democratic space. It wants to be a police force and use intimidation to suppress constructive criticism. Social media is used to educate voters and raise awareness,” Komichi said.

Labour, Economists and African Democrats president Linda Masarira said: “Zimbabweans must be allowed to exercise their right to freedom of expression to raise grievances and openly criticise where they feel Zec will be going wrong so that it can use that input to correct and reform.”

Election Resource Centre programmes manager Solomon Bobosibunu said Zec should address its communication deficiencies regarding its handling of elections.

“It will be more appropriate to be proactive in providing information which is complete, accurate and on time rather than to wait and respond after citizens have looked for information elsewhere,” Bobasibunu said.

Zimbabwe Election Advocacy Trust executive director Igneous Sadziwa said Zec should stick to its mandate and commit to manage elections impartially. -Newsday

Chamisa Denies Reports He Is Talking To Mnangagwa

CCC leader Nelson Chamisa has denied reports that he is engaged or seeking to engage President Emmerson Mnangagwa on forming a coalition government under any other other name.

Chamisa was responding to reports by the Presidential Spokesperson George Charamba who said Chamisa was behind the Zimbabwe Heads of Christian Denominations proposal to have a 7 year election Sabbatical.

Said Chamisa, “I am not engaged with Mnangagwa on any dialogue regarding a government structure. The only dialogue and pact I have called for is the pre-election pact that must be done. I also disagreed with the proposal by the churches to have a sabbatical on elections and said we only need a sabbatical on election violence.”

Chamisa was addressing the media at the ZCTU May Day rally in Dzivarasekwa.

Mnangagwa Tells ZUPCO To Bring Back Order In The Public Transport Sector

PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has directed the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, and public transporter Zupco to put in place an efficient transport system that will improve the ease of movement for workers and address transport challenges during peak hours.

This comes as there have been concerns among the commuting public about inordinately long periods spent in bus queues that have given rise to unscrupulous transporters in the form of “mushika-shikas, which often rip off the public.

In his speech to mark the Workers Day, under the theme “Restoring Workers Dignity”, the President said workers are a bedrock for the country’s development and their welfare remains a priority of his administration, which is on an unstoppable mission to make Zimbabwe an upper-middle-class economy by 2030.

But in the wake of a spate of unjustifiable price increases, which is a result of imported inflation, the President assured workers of his resolve to restore their purchasing power through the provision of affordable transportation systems and other policies that respond to the aspirations of the workers.

“It is regrettable that prices have of late been increasing due to imported inflation. My Government remains seized with redressing the situation through comprehensive strategies to ensure that there is no erosion of disposable incomes.”

Such measures also include availing affordable buses that will ensure workers are not left at the mercy of unrecognised transporters that charge disproportionately high fares.

“The Second Republic is determined to retain the purchasing power of workers, through a viable public transport system. The government will not stand by and watch while the hard-earned incomes of our workers are stolen by ‘mushika-shikas’ and ‘makoronyera’. No!“You, as our workers, deserve an efficient and affordable transport system so that production time, as well as your family time, is not lost in transport queues. During peak hours, workers must be transported with the greatest ease.

“I, therefore, direct authorities at Zupco and the responsible ministry to heed this call and bring back order in the sector. There are no residential areas which are more important than others. All communities must be treated equally, for this is the true meaning of our hard-won independence and the current development drive that leaves no one and no place behind,” said the President.

As part of protecting workers, President Mnangagwa also warned companies against sitting on pensions and medical aid fees for workers.

“The incidence of non-remittance of payments for medical aid and pensions for workers by organisations will not be tolerated. I call upon workers to expose situations where they notice cases of corruption and maladministration within organisations and institutions.”

Furthermore, the President said his government respects the rights of workers and is enshrining laws to further protect workers from across sectors.

“My Government will continue to respect workers’ rights. As such. The Labour Amendment Bill is now before Parliament, in line with our commitment to ensure fair labour standards for all workers in Zimbabwe. The Bill is expected to further restore the dignity of workers by addressing some of the emerging challenges affecting workers,” said Mnangagwa.

PAY WORKERS A LIVING WAGE:
By Nelson Chamisa| WORKERS’ DAY is a special day to appreciate, salute & celebrate the amazing efforts, resilience and endurance of all the hard pressed workers who gave & continue to give their sweat and blood to building our ZIMBABWE great even under difficult and times.

Nelson Chamisa

2/This Day, we remember that everything won was through the struggle & sacrifice of working citizens. A standing ovation to all the workers who keep the show going to keep our nation ticking. Workers are the backbone of any nation, being the turbines of history & architects of any society.

3/ The historic struggle and militant tradition of the labor movement in ZIMBABWE have won us many victories that we still enjoy up to this day. Remember Burombo, Masotsha Ndlovu , Jamela , Mzingeli, Nkomo, Sibanda, Tsvangirai, Matombo, Nkiwane, Chibebe and Mutasa.

4/ Now more than ever, policymakers and employers in #Zimbabwe need to heed workers’ calls for a living and decent wage, RESTORE WORKERS’ DIGNITY and ensure that workers get a fair share in the wealth and gains they help to create.

5/ Workers are suffering. Transport is a nightmare. Wages are meager. Salaries are inadequate. Prices are roaring. The recent statistics from Zimstat shows that annual inflation as of April 2022 has surged to 96.6% while authorities have not given corresponding salary increase;

6/Current ‘real market’ exchange rate is ZWL 400 to US$1 which effectively means that workers salaries are seriously eroded by both inflation and exchange spiral but authorities are unwilling to give workers a correct living wage;

7/ Likewise, employers’ capacity to pay real wages to workers has been constrained by draconian government policies which inter alia include excessive distortions and corruption and punitive exchange rate regimes and excessive taxes;

8/ The punitive economic environment has been so toxic to the people in the informal sector (as their working capital is being eroded by exchange rate spiral and inflation) who have been trying to make ends meet in the face of high unemployment rate which is above 90%;

9/Likewise,workers are failing to put a decent meal on the table & many now in the poverty bracket. Some workers can’t afford to buy a loaf of bread daily. Our teachers can’t send their kids to standard boarding schl &the same teacher is expected to teach other parents kids?

10/ We have numerously advised and continue to advise those authorities to give workers a living and decent wage but the call falls on deaf ears, shut minds and stony hearts. Dollarize for workers to earn decent wages and to increase the domestic aggregate demand.

11/ As the incoming government,we guarantee the following:
(a) A decent &living wage.A starting min wage of US$540 for the lowest civil servant;
(b) A conducive environment which foster business growth & attract both domestic & foreign investment -the key levers of job creation;

c) We will undertake massive reforms of the state owned enterprises with a view to place them as key enablers &actors of economic transformation & employment creation.

d) The strengthening of the TNF so that it becomes a serious vehicle for negotiations for Gvt,Employers & Employees

e) Consummate a Social Contract and massive labour law reforms.
(f) Domestication of ILO Conventions that affect workers’ conditions
(g) Cessation of abuse of workers by exploitative local and foreign employers. Protect workers against any form of violence and violations.

h) We are losing a lot of workers through occupational deaths, sickness, diseases, and injuries. We will seek to drastically reduce this by ratifying and domesticating Convention 187 in order to promote a safe and healthy working environment.

i) We have looked at the 2009 ILO Commission Of Inquiry, and our government will fully implement all the recommendations.

J) Entrench workers’ rights in the constitution, including the right to demonstrate, freedom of association, collective bargaining and decent working conditions including the public sector workers.

k) Domestic Workers are workers. Our government will speedily ratify and domesticate Convention 189 to protect domestic workers and promote decent work for this important but abused group of workers.

12/ Salute to all the workers who work tirelessly and patriotically every day to bring peace, sanity, amity and happiness to their nations, families and societies. Happy International Workers’Day!

13/ A worker is a maker. Let’s make ZIMBABWE great. Workers’ day is for all workers. Let us all work for change in ZIMBABWE, register to vote or encourage another to register to vote. Let’s work to build our country great -A New Great ZIMBABWE in our lifetime!

14/ Key to providing a living wage, restoring workers’ dignity & getting rid of the old, rotten ¶sitic system sucking life out of workers is electing a Citizens government that puts workers’ welfare first and prioritize dignity at the heart of governance &all policy decisions.

15/ Give the workers their wages before their sweat dries! Better days are coming!A New Great ZIMBABWE is loading…! God bless all workers. God bless ZIMBABWE ??.God bless Africa!

We looked at both the proposed Labour Amendment Bill &Health Services Amendment Bill. They all fall short & take away workers freedoms& rights. Our Gvt will pursue a TNF driven Labour Law reform based on ILO Conventions &the Constitution. All laws must be aligned to the Constitution

Mnangagwa Admits Zupco Has Failed

By- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has admitted that his Zupco buses have failed to solve the country’s transport system.

Mnangagwa however directed the Ministry of Transport to address bring order to the transport issues that have seen commuters queuing for hours waiting to be ferried.

He made the decree in his Worker’s Day statement on Saturday.
Below is some of what he said:

The Second Republic is determined to retain the purchasing power of workers, through a viable public transport system.
Government will not stand by and watch while the hard-earned incomes of our workers are stolen by “mushika-shikas” and “makoronyera”. No!
You, as our workers, deserve an efficient and affordable transport system so that production time, as well as your family time, is not lost in transport queues. During peak hours, workers must be transported with the greatest ease.

I, therefore, direct authorities at ZUPCO and the responsible Ministry to heed this call and bring back order in the sector. There are no residential areas which are more important than others.
All communities must be treated equally, for this is the true meaning of our hard-won independence and the current development drive that leaves no one and no place behind.
Similarly, the incidence of non-remittance of payments for medical aid and pensions for workers by organisations will not be tolerated.
I call upon workers to expose situations where they notice cases of corruption and maladministration within organisations and institutions.
Private-owned commuter omnibuses (kombis) were banned in 2022 as a way to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. They remain banned but have been pirating some routes, illegally, capitalising on ZUPCO’s failure to offer transport timeously.

ZEC Wants Twitter and Facebook to Pull Down “Damaging Posts”

-Newsday

Chaos In Vic Falls As Artists Bunk Own Show

There was chaos when artists bunked their own show at the Vic Falls Carnival event.

Event organisers of the Vic Falls Carnival have since demanded that DJ Maphorisa, Kabza de Small and Shasha pay back their full booking fee, money used on flights and accommodation and “most importantly, apologise to the fans who travelled all over the world to see them perform.”
This was said in a statement released by carnival organisers who have been angered by the artistes following their failure to travel to the event.

Organisers said they did everything to ensure the artistes travel yet they did not honour the performance agreement.

“DJ Maphorisa, Kabza and Shasha were paid in full for the Vic Falls Carnival event on the 29th of April 2022 in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Booking confirmations, flight confirmations and accommodation confirmations were sent to them several times before, for some reason they did not show up at the airport on the day of the event.

“From the Vic Falls Carnival side, they honoured the contract as agreed. . . The artistes have shown total disregard for the contract and this is unacceptable. The artists should;

1. Pay back the full booking fee

2. Pay back all the flights that were booked on time.

3. Pay back accommodation that was booked on time.

4. Give Vic Falls Carnival a statement in this regard.

5. Mostly, apologise to the fans who travelled all over the world to come see them perform,” read a statement that was issued by High Yards. -Chronicle

By A Correspondent | Claims that there is a US army base in or being set up in Zambia have been dismissed.

He continued saying: “There is no any US army base in Zambia. Stop the propaganda !!!”

CCC Members Attend May Day Celebrations

President Chamisa’s Masvingo CCC party members attend May workers day in Mucheke hall.

As President Chamisa attends Workers’ day in Harare

As Masvingo Zanu PF snubs Masvingo workers day celebrations.

1 May 2022

Wezhira Munya

Today, it’s workers day. Masvingo urban workers congregate at Mucheke Hall in Masvingo.

Masvingo urban Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) members obeyed President Chamisa’s call to attend workers’ day today. CCC members in Masvingo attended today’s workers’ day.

Masvingo CCC urban organiser Mr Mapope gave solidarity speech at ZCTU workers’ day at Mucheke Hall.

Mr Peace Mapope said, “Under President Chamisa’s leadership workers will be paid a minimum salary of $540us. He further , urged Zanu PF to arrest inflation and the increase of prices of goods and services. Workers’ salaries are nolonger meeting the needs of the workers.”

Citizens Coalitions for Change under President Chamisa values ZCTU and workers in general. CCC as a party has its roots in workers, students, vendors among others.

Mrs Hlanga Masvingo ZCTU member sang the song titled “Mushandi Shinga” at today’s workers celebrations. This song was encouraging workers to stand firm in midst of problems and fight for their rights.

The guest of honour at Masvingo celebrations was ZCTU Mr Runesu Dzimiri, who is the first national deputy secretary general and he is also general secretary of food federation and allied workers union.

Mr Dzimiri chronicled the history of ZCTU and he also cried the death of economy and the low salaries. He informed the workers that ZCTU is fighting for the welfare of workers. He urged the government, campanies and other organisations to pay workers $540us as minimum wage.

Mr Dzimiri also read the message from ZCTU president Mrs Forence Taruvinga. In her speech president Taruvinga said workers are suffering in poverty as the economy has dollarise. She also said, the increase of fuel , bread and other goods have negative affected the workers. There is an urgent need to pay workers in us$.

Masvingo CCC urban ward 3 newly elected councillor Mr Rocky Kamuzondo also attended Masvingo ZCTU celebrations.

Councillor Rocky Kamuzondo was given an opportunity to give solidarity speech at today’s workers’ day.

Councillor Kamuzondo said, “I am from President Nelson Chamisa’s deployee in Masvingo urban council serving the interest of workers, vendors, students, residents among others. Workers salaries are low. There is need to increase salaries. As a council we promise to give you quality water and other services.”

Masvingo Zanu PF as a party and Masvingo Minister of Provincial Affairs and Devolutions were invited by ZCTU to attend workers’ today but they snubbed the celebrations. Government under Zanu PF has been blamed for destroying the Zimbabwe economy since it took over power 42 years ago. Under Mnangagwa led government inflation has increased, prices of goods and services have increased, Zimbabwean dollar is now useless and us$ has taken over. Majority of companies have closed under Zanu PF leadership.

Some of the organisations who were invited to give solidarity speeches at Masvingo ZCTU include Consumer Council of Zimbabwe, National Informal Economy of Zimbabwe, National Aids Council, Ministry of Labour among others.

I Am A Listening President: Mnangagwa

Then later this was - 1987 at the end of the Gukurahundi massacres. Mnangagwa doesn't look happy that the killing is over, as it were.

Full statement by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in commemoration of the International Workers’ Day, also known as Labour Day, on Sunday, 01 May 2022.

Through your hard honest work, you are bringing to reality our national development mantra, Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo/ ilizwe liyakwa ngabanikazi balo”.

Going forward, I urge the social partners to expedite the establishment of the Zimbabwe National Productivity Institute which, among other objectives, will drive the productivity consciousness across all sectors.

Fellow Zimbabweans;

A prosperous society is possible if you workers continue to play your part. As a country we commend you for your efforts that have led to the present growth trajectory in our capacity utilisation, which is now at 66%.

Through the hard-honest work of our workers, the Zimbabwean Economy has now graduated from stabilisation to growth. In this regard, your dignity as workers, your value, wages and salaries must be commensurate with the resultant improving macro-economic fundamentals.

Employers are challenged to respect and honour the efforts being made by workers in modernising and industrialising Zimbabwe. The workplace should be a place of harmony and fulfilment.

Occupational safety, health and wellness programmes must be pursued with great vigour. It is also my expectation that workplace programmes be prioritised to prepare workers for retirement.

Meanwhile, it is encouraging that the leadership of the labour movement now values the utility of social dialogue as the most efficient vehicle for finding solutions to our challenges, including those being experienced by workers.

To date, I have met the leaders of worker organisations and openly shared perspectives with them to move our country forward, guided by the national interest. As a listening President, my door remains open for more frequent engagements.

Fellow Zimbabweans;

It is regrettable that prices have of late been increasing due to imported inflation. My Government remains seized with redressing the situation through comprehensive strategies to ensure that there is no erosion of disposable incomes.

The new normal brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Fourth Industrial Revolution requires that you, the workers continuously improve yourselves.

It is now imperative that you leverage on ICTs, which have emerged as a new factor of production, to broaden your opportunities.

You must equally take up staff development programmes within your workplaces and our institutions of higher learning towards re-skilling, up-skilling and multi-skilling.

Fellow Workers,

My Government is aware of the decent work deficits being experienced by those in the informal sector.

The responsible Ministry is directed to quickly finalise the Formalisation Strategy towards mainstreaming the decent work principles.

I urge workers in the informal sector to always engage with the responsible Ministry to speed up the formalisation agenda, while enhancing their participation in the mainstream economy.

The National Social Security Authority must accelerate the establishment and implementation of programmes for the inclusion of the informal sector in social security protection.

My Government will continue to respect workers’ rights. As such. The Labour Amendment Bill is now before Parliament, in line with our commitment to ensure fair labour standards for all workers in Zimbabwe.

The Bill is expected to further restore the dignity of workers by addressing some of the emerging challenges affecting workers.

I challenge the leadership across all sectors of the economy to protect and advance the interest of all our workers.

The Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare should take a more focused and visible lead in the protection of workers’ rights.

Increased social protection coverage and reduced worker vulnerability, anchored on putting in place robust mechanisms that improve working conditions, must be heightened.

Allow me to also encourage those Zimbabweans in the Diaspora to continue working hard in spite of the many challenging circumstances they may face within their host countries.

I thus, urge you to remain resolute and focused on achieving your personal and professional goals.

Finally,

As we celebrate this year’s Workers’ Day, let us remain mindful that the COVID-19 pandemic is still with us. Get vaccinated, continue wearing masks, sanitising and maintaining social distance. No one is safe until everyone is safe.

Going forward and in line with the declaration of 2022 as the “Year of Growth”, my Government will ensure that the improving macro-economic fundamentals translate to a dignified life for workers.

Together, through hard-honest work, as a peaceful and united people, let us steadfastly continue on our journey towards attaining Vision 2030 and building the Zimbabwe we all want.

With these remarks, I wish you all a happy Workers’ Day.

Fellow Zimbabweans;

It is regrettable that prices have of late been increasing due to imported inflation. My Government remains seized with redressing the situation through comprehensive strategies to ensure that there is no erosion of disposable incomes.

Girl Attacked By Crocodile While Taking A Bath

A 13-year-old Girl Killed In Crocodile Attack
A 13-year-old girl from Furawu village in Mushumbi died after being attacked by a crocodile in Hunyani River while taking a bath.

Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe said the incident happened on April 24 at around 5.30pm.

Inspector Mundembbe said the deceased, Nomatter Raymond, went with her young sister aged 8 to wash dishes in Hunyani River.

After washing dishes, Nomatter instructed her sister to go back with the dishes to the shed in the field while she remained behind to take a bath.

That’s when she was then attacked by a crocodile and dragged underwater.

Lynette Mazowe (14) and Angela Chiedza (12) who were fishing on the other side of the river witnessed the incident and started screaming for help.

People in nearby villages rushed to the river and started searching for Nomatter but they failed to locate her.

Question Raymondreported the incident to the police on the following day.

On April 26 her body was retrieved from the river 70 metres away from the scene.

She was found with a broken right thumb and wrist. She also had crocodile teeth marks on her chest and back.

Insp Mundembe urged people to stay away from crocodile-infested water bodies, especially young people.

Manchester City Demolish Leeds United

It was a tale of two set-pieces at Elland Road as Manchester City kept themselves top of the Premier League with three precious points with a 4-0 win over Leeds United on Saturday evening.

Rodri went a long way to calming early nerves when he flicked a header home from Phil Foden’s cross, but the home side didn’t let up and looked capable of denting City’s title hopes for a time.

A first-half full of fouls came to a head when Stuart Dallas badly injured himself as a result of a challenge on Jack Grealish, after which referee Paul Tierney took a less lenient approach.

Nathan Ake bundled in from a set piece to give City some breathing room, and despite an array of further chances it would stay 2-0 until the last fifteen minutes – when Gabriel Jesus latched onto Foden’s pass and scored, before Fernandinho added a fourth on the stroke of full-time.- www.si.com

Mnangagwa’s Removal And Hopewell’s Goats Part 1

By Grace Kwinjeh
The recent attacks against journalist Hopewell Chin’ono, only prove to the world, what a vindictive and cruel leader Emmerson Mnangagwa is.

Chin’ono’s apparent crime is that he recently addressed a UN Watch meeting at which he gave the watching international audience an insight into Zimbabwe’s deteriorating situation, exposing Mnangagwa’s mafia regime and the patronage based system he runs, characterised by deep structural economic rot.

Grace Kwinjeh

Going after his goats in violation of property rights, is just a scare tactic against Chin’ono and his family, an indirect threat to other people that they risk losing property if they oppose the regime. It’s not working!

Consequently, the attack on Chin’ono’s goats exposes a more sinister, diabolic agenda behind Mnangagwa’s political survival strategy beyond 2023.

Zimbabwe is haemorrhaging from the corruption, the masses are suffering; and fed up, there is no stopping a hungry man who has nothing to lose – Mnangwaga’s greatest fear.

Thus, recent political developments are not coincidental, and have to be viewed within a broader context as part of a well thought out power retention strategy by the moribund regime.

Mnangagwa came into power under the pretext that he was fighting corruption, by removing ‘criminals’ around former President Robert Mugabe. He has only done the opposite, presiding over the most corrupt government, lack of transparency and accountability being the order of the day.

Ridiculous it gets, because even the body that is set up to investigate the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) is itself under investigation for failing to account for millions of USD’s according to the latest Auditor General’s report.
All this is information Chin’ono raises which is in the public domain.

That Zimbabweans are suffering and can’t access crucial health facilities such as cancer machines is public information. Harrowing experiences are daily being shared, being a Zimbabwean is an extreme sport, because we are dealing with a cruel, insensitive leadership, that lacks a moral compass.

Mangangwa has not failed to fight corruption, he can’t because he is it’s Godfather, head of a kleptocratic ruling elite that is daily sucking the life out of Zimbabwe.
Running a mafia network of enablers, some who can be found in the opposition, story for another day.

He never intended to fight corruption, getting power was just for him and his cronies, who include his close family members access and to leverage their ability to wantonly loot state resources with no guilt or shame.

How then do we rescue ourselves out of this situation?

Mnangagwa is creating vigilantes to attack and neutralise vocal personalities in our community. They raided politician, Tendai Biti’s house, assaulting and injuring his guards.

They have invaded activist and lawyer Sipho Malunga’s Kershelmar farm in Nyamandlovu. Zanu PF vigilantes are attacking opposition members in the townships.
Advocate Nelson Chamisa has proposed a sound roadmap that is meant to transition Zimbabwe out of this sordid, cruel political jinx that we are seemingly stuck in.

The spell has to be broken.

Mnangagwa refuses democracy even within Zanu PF itself, declaring already that he is going to be the only candidate, to represent the party in 2023, warding off any potential internal challengers.

There are younger, charismatic leaders within the ruling party, who can easily turn its fortunes around, rebuild our country’s economy. Names being dropped include, exiled Savior Kasukuwere, who has years of experience in government, and the party.

It should therefore, be noted that Mnangagwa’s interest is not in a competitive Zanu PF that thrives, or promotes leaders within the party, who are pivotal to national healing and reconciliation.

The fact that Kasukuwere is blocked, is a signal to Zimbabweans, a reflection of Mnangagwa’s intransigence, even in national politics. A red flag.

And so while the roadmap that is proposed by for instance, Advocate Chamisa, reads well, it risks remaining just there on paper.

The challenge for us Zimbabweans, is a strategy to take back what is ours. Not this talk of ‘talks’ and negotiations, meant to deflect attention from the most important task at hand, which is the removal of Mnangagwa and cohorts, to usher in a new democratic government.

A thief breaks into your house, steals your property, you do not go to the police station to negotiate getting your stuff back. You get back what is yours, including justice and reparations – the thief belongs behind bars. Period!

Take or hashtag FakaPresure, means we Zimbabweans are going to resist, Mnangagwa’s evil in all its forms. Take means we are not going to be lulled into silence, by blackmail, violence or a false Government of National Unity (GNU) narrative, meant to give this deceptive regime a fresh lease of life.

Rewarding them for years of violence, corruption and misrule. Experience from yesteryear of the GNU during the days of our dear departed leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, teaches us the folly in this strategy, it does not work. You do not appease evil, to ameliorate its diabolical ways, you just feed its thirst for more blood, and it will keep sucking.
Only coordinated resistance, underpinned by basic principles and demands, such as the proposed Roadmap, leading to a free and fair election is the acceptable route. Mnangagwa and clique, have to suffer the consequences of their bad behaviour, not rewards. Zimbabweans can do it. Zimbabweans are ripe for this strategy. Aluta Continua.

Nhamoinesu Calls It A Day

Reward Workers, President Chamisa Challenges Mnangagwa

Tinashe Sambiri|Citizens’ Coalition For Change leader President Nelson Chamisa says tireless workers in the country should be rewarded as they are enduring difficult conditions.

In his Workers’ Day statement, President Chamisa paid tribute to individuals who relentlessly fought for workers’ rights.

He described the late founding MDC President, Dr Morgan Tsvangirai as a champion of workers’ rights.

President Chamisa accused Mr Mnangagwa’s administration of ignoring the plight of workers.

See statement below:

PAY WORKERS A LIVING WAGE:

WORKERS’ DAY is a special day to appreciate, salute &celebrate the amazing efforts, resilience and endurance of all the hard pressed workers who gave & continue to give their sweat and blood to building our ZIMBABWE great even under difficult and times.

The historic struggle and militant tradition of the labor movement in ZIMBABWE have won us many victories that we still enjoy up to this day.Remember Burombo, Masotsha Ndlovu ,Jamela , Mzingeli, Nkomo, Sibanda, Tsvangirai, Matombo, Nkiwane,Chibebe and Mutasa .

This Day,we remember that everything won was through the struggle & sacrifice of working citizens.A standing ovation to all the workers who keep the show going & our nation ticking.Workers are the backbone of any nation, being the turbines of history& architects of any society.

Current ‘real market’ exchange rate is ZWL 400 to US$1 which effectively means that workers salaries are seriously eroded by both inflation and exchange spiral but authorities are unwilling to give workers a correct living wage.

Workers are suffering. Transport is a nightmare. Wages are meager.Salaries are inadequate. Prices are roaring. The recent statistics from Zimstat shows that annual inflation as of April 2022 has surged to 96.6% while authorities have not given corresponding salary increase.

The punitive economic environment has been so toxic to the people in the informal sector (as their working capital is being eroded by exchange rate spiral and inflation) who have been trying to make ends meet in the face of high unemployment rate which is above 90%;

Likewise, employers’ capacity to pay real wages to workers has been constrained by draconian government policies which inter alia include excessive distortions and corruption and punitive exchange rate regimes and excessive taxes;

We have numerously advised and continue to advise those authorities to give workers a living and decent wage but the call falls on deaf ears, shut minds and stony hearts. Dollarize for workers to earn decent wages and to increase the domestic aggregate demand.

Likewise, workers are failing to put a decent meal on the table &many now in the poverty bracket. Some workers can’t afford to buy a loaf of bread daily. Our teachers can’t send their kids to standard boarding schl &the same teacher is expected to teach other parents kids?
Consummate a Social Contract and massive labour law reforms.

Domestication of ILO Conventions that affect workers’ conditions.

Cessation of abuse of workers by exploitative local and foreign employers. Protect workers against any form of violence and violations.

We will undertake massive reforms of the state owned enterprises with a view to place them as key enablers &actors of economic transformation &employment creation.
d)The strengthening of the TNF so that it becomes a serious vehicle for negotiations for Gvt,Employers & Employees.

As the incoming government,we guarantee the following:
A decent &living wage.A starting min wage of US$540 for the lowest civil servant;
A conducive environment which foster business growth & attract both domestic & foreign investment -the key levers of job creation.

Entrench workers’ rights in the constitution, including the right to demonstrate, freedom of association, collective bargaining and decent working conditions including the public sector workers.

We have looked at the 2009 ILO Commission Of Inquiry, and our government will fully implement all the recommendations.

We are losing a lot of workers through occupational deaths, sickness, diseases, and injuries. We will seek to drastically reduce this by ratifying and domesticating Convention 187 in order to promote a safe and healthy working environment.

Salute to all the workers who work tirelessly and patriotically every day to bring peace, sanity, amity and happiness to their nations, families and societies. Happy International Workers’Day!

Domestic Workers are workers. Our government will speedily ratify and domesticate Convention 189 to protect domestic workers and promote decent work for this important but abused group of workers.

We looked at both the proposed Labour Amendment Bill &Health Services Amendment Bill. They all fall short & take away workers freedoms& rights. Our Gvt will pursue a TNF driven Labour Law reform based on ILO Conventions &the Constitution. All laws must be aligned to the Constitution.

Give the workers their wages before their sweat dries! Better days are coming!A New Great ZIMBABWE is loading…! God bless all workers. God bless ZIMBABWE God bless Africa!

Key to providing a living wage, restoring workers’ dignity & getting rid of the old, rotten &parasitic system sucking life out of workers is electing a Citizens government that puts workers’ welfare first and prioritize dignity at the heart of governance &all policy decisions.

A worker is a maker. Let’s make ZIMBABWE great. Workers’ day is for all workers. Let us all work for change in ZIMBABWE, register to vote or encourage another to register to vote. Let’s work to build our country great -A New Great ZIMBABWE in our lifetime.

Beware Of Noncommunicable Diseases

WHO welcomes the establishment of a new Heads of State and Government Group to accelerate progress towards the SDG target for noncommunicable diseases ̶ a one-third reduction in “premature” deaths from diseases like diabetes, cancer, heart and lung disease and the promotion of mental health and well-being.

The decision was taken at the inaugural International Strategic Dialogue on Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) and the Sustainable Development Goals, held today in Accra, Ghana, where a new Global Compact on NCDs was launched. The dialogue was co-hosted by WHO, together with the Governments of Ghana and Norway.

Heads of State highlighted the urgency of the NCD pandemic, which kills 7 out of 10 people globally from risk factors like tobacco, alcohol, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, and air pollution.

NCDs are largely preventable and treatable, nearly 7 million lives could be saved for just US$ 0.84 per person per year from now until 2030. This investment would realize more than US$ 230 billion in economic and societal benefits and avert nearly 10 million heart attacks and strokes globally by 2030.

The Heads of States and Governments Group announced that it will gather countries championing the NCD agenda and will convene annually at the UN General Assembly. The first meeting is expected to take place in September 2022.

The NCD Compact will focus on five key areas of commitment:

saving, by 2030, the lives of 50 million people from dying prematurely of NCDs by implementing the most cost-effective measures to prevent and control NCDs;
protecting 1.7 billion people living with NCDs by ensuring that they have access to the medicines and care they need during humanitarian emergencies;
integrating NCDs within primary health care and universal health coverage;
comprehensive NCD surveillance and monitoring; and
meaningfully engaging 1.7 billion people living with NCDs and mental health conditions in policy-making and programming.
The economic, as well as the health, benefits of investing in NCDs was a clear theme at the Dialogue. Norway has been a frontrunner in investment in the fight against NCDs, investing internationally, becoming the first donor country to include NCDs in its international development strategy.

Mr Nana Addo Dankwa Afuko-Addo, President of Ghana, outlined the successes of Ghana in implementing tobacco demand-reduction measures and introducing guidelines for NCD management, but also highlighted the challenges for lower-income countries in accelerating action.

Statements from the meeting:

Mr Nana Addo Dankwa Afuko-Addo, President of Ghana:

“Tacking the phenomenon of NCDs requires leadership to provide visibility to NCD issues. I ask my Heads of State colleagues to join hands with me as we establish a Presidential Group (non-binding), and as we find solutions to NCDs with a roadmap of universal health coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals. In our time, this will be our legacy”.

Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization:

“Apart from the lives they take, NCDs take a heavy toll on economies, cutting down people in their most productive years. Overcoming this challenge requires technical, financial, and above all, political commitment. I thank the Governments of Norway and Ghana for establishing the first Global Heads of State and Government Group on NCDs, and launching the Global NCD Compact 2020-2030.”

Mr Jonas Gahr Støre, Prime Minister of Norway:

“Investing in stronger health systems, service delivery and the prevention of NCDs will make vulnerable populations more resilient to COVID-19 and future pandemics. This is also vital for promoting universal health coverage. NCD prevention, and access to treatment and medicine must be a core component in the efforts to enhance pandemic preparedness and response, and in building back better in the post-pandemic recovery.”

Dr Matshidiso Moeti, WHO Regional Director for Africa:

“Noncommunicable diseases account for nearly a third of deaths in Africa, where they not only pose a grave threat to health and well-being, but also blunt socioeconomic development. The commitment reached today marks a crucial step in speeding up the progress against these diseases and their risk factors as well as the suffering and deaths they cause.

More than a dozen similar incidents have been reported at Chilonga this season alone with scores of people including Police divers and civil servants dead amid louder calls for Government to build a proper bridge into one of the most important constituencies in the country.

The NetOne vehicle was on its way to refuel a cellular phone base station in Chikombedzi.

Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson, Kudakwashe Dehwa said he is yet to receive the report. There are, however, impeccable witnesses who said they saw the car being swept away who called The Mirror. Efforts to get a comment from Netone were.

Mavaza Says Zambia Has Invited Trouble for Zimbabwe By Hosting US Army | FULL TEXT

By Dr. Masimba Mavaza | A story is told of two neighbours who lived in Zengeza 3 Chitungwiza. Every morning one neighbour observed the other neighbours as they went off and came back from work. She confronted her husband and said have you ever taken time to see how the neighbours do? The husband is so romantic. He opens the door for his wife and closes it for her.

Yesterday he bought a brand new Toyota Corola for his wife. Still he opens the door for her. Why don’t you be like him. Ask him how he does it,” the husband was embarrassed he summoned courage and went to chat with his neighbour. That evening he sat with his wife and started “ my sweet dear wife, I would like to do what our neighbour does. I will start tonight.

But I need you to know how our neighbour became so romantic. He made his wife’s sister and the maid pregnant. So he is being nice to atone his sins. The Toyota was a sorry offering for having a child with his secretary and making the other receptionist pregnant. So in the morning i will pass through our maid’s room on my way to the car”
Sometimes copying our neighbours while we do not have any knowlledge of why they are where they are now.

This story reminds me of Chamisa and his party who celebrated the win of Zambia. Chamisa has copied everything HH of Zambia did to win Zambian elections. Even to adopt yellow as a colour of the party. But behind all the excellence shown by HH and Zambia there was always America behind their backs.

HH was very correct when he said during one of his campaigns “ I will have America here with dollars as soon as I enter the office.” Chamisa even stole the same saying and repeated it verbatim in one of his rallies”
But true to his word HH shocked Africa on April 25, the U.S. government announced the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) will open an Office of Security Cooperation at the U.S. Embassy in Zambia.  Visiting AFRICOM Brigadier General Peter Bailey, Deputy Director for Strategy, Engagement, and Programs, made the announcement during a meeting with His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema.
Building on the foundation of U.S.-Zambia shared security interests, the new Office of Security Cooperation will enhance military to military relations and expand areas of cooperation in force management, modernization, and professional military education for the Zambian security forces.
General Bailey commended President Hichilema and his New Dawn Administration for its steadfast commitment to regional peace and stability and stated the U.S. government looks forward to building on its strong bilateral ties with Zambia to enhance security cooperation.  General Bailey also praised the Zambian Defence Force for its professionalism and contributions to United Nations peacekeeping missions.

During his visit, General Bailey will also meet with the Minister of Defense, Honorable Ambrose Lufuma, and will represent AFRICOM at the official opening ceremony for the start of pre-deployment training for the eighth Zambia Battalion (ZAMBATT VIII).
This is a thank you to America for assisting HH to beat Edger Lungu in the past General elections.

This is what Chamisa will do he will give part of the land to America and most of his handlers.

The opening of the Command centre in Zambia gives America an opportunity to spy on Zimbabwe without any problems. While U.S. embassies in Africa have been woefully understaffed for decades, the U.S. military presence has increased, serving as a crucial signal to African partners that the United States is a steadfast ally. This clearly means America now controls Zimbabwe by spying on it from the comfort of Zambia.
It is not a secret that America has a frosty relationship with Zimbabwe. Now stationed in Zambia America poses a serious security threat for. zimbabwe. This is what our neighbour has brought unto us.
You can see the seriousness of the matter.

While we are wondering as to what America will do next Zambia gets the envelope and claim that they are geniuses in economic management. But why the U.S. Military Presence in Africa is Vital Beyond Counterterrorism The most profound benefits to U.S. national security from military engagement in Africa have little to do with the headlines. The expansion into Southern Africa is a ploy to control and change governments which are deemed to be against America. With Zidera still warm in the oven there is no doubt that America is spreading its arms towards Zimbabwe. Foreign military motivations is not always good but it spells evil for those in the bad books.

Knowing that Zimbabwe is on its knees because of ZIDERA. It is clear that not only the Horn is the epicentre of foreign military activity in Africa. Foreign troops have been deployed there to counter threats to international peace, subdue terror groups and pirates, and support foreign security initiatives but there is really no reason to stretch to Southern Africa. Southern Africa is not known for terrorism or piracy. American presence in Zambia is a security concern for Zimbabwe.
The U.S. occupation of Africa has become self-justifying. The U.S. military now must stay in Africa to protect the interests of the U.S. military in Africa. This is how strange this is.

The current government of Zambia has clearly told us that it is better the devil you know than the one you do not know.
Past presidents of Zambia had resisted the American expansion. They realised the treachery America was employing, they realised that their own pleasures was not important than the freedom of Africa.
The heroes of African freedom are turning in their graves. You can imagine how Nkwame Nkurumah will feel on seeing the colonialism in a new shape being assisted by our own children. Liberation Heroes like Samora Machel,Kenneth Kaunda, Julius K Nyerere,Patrice Lumumba cde Robert Mugabe and many others.

The behaviour of Zambia is clearly a betrayal the nations give to the youth.
Zambia gives a very sharp warning to the Zimbabwean youth.
Do not say you have not been warned.

Tendai Biti even boasts that once he is in power he will start speaking in Oxford and Cambridge accents. He told Zimbabwe of people who will come and call him Mr Bhiti. Chamisa declared that he is a phone call away from flooding Zimbabwe with the white people. True to their word they do not have manifest or simply they do not have any plan except a phone call after they win elections. No constitution why bother the owners of the party will be taking over.
The role of the U.S. military in Africa isn’t clear to anyone. And that will only hurt American interests.

The U.S. military has been expanding its presence and operations in Africa over the past decade. In doing so, it has obscured the nature of its actions through ambiguous language and outright secrecy. It limits the amount of information available about the objectives of its operations, how those operations are carried out, the facilities it uses, and how it partners with governments in the region.

At times, this has involved subverting democratic processes in partner countries, an approach that runs counter to years of diplomatic engagement ostensibly designed to strengthen governance institutions. Zambia is simply giving Africa in the hands of America.
Zimbabweans should draw lessons from Zambia. Indeed the youth have been told that Zambia did it and Zimbabwe can do it too. What was there to be done. The youth was busy being sold a snake wrapped in a golden cloth.

America’s expansion is not a development for Zambia. It is a clear exploitation.
Since the September 11, 2001 attacks, U.S. military and security agencies have claimed an unlimited mandate to pursue what they deem terrorist threats. For the Zimbabwe’s neighbour the Americans are there to stay without limitation.

The new wave of the youth in government alone is a new destructive path Africa has been plunged in.
Having unprincipled people who have no respect of the values which made them people is a disaster.

When Zambians cried change in the streets of Zambia they never realised that they are selling their birth rights to America. Why foreign countries are scrambling to set up bases in Africa.
Recent media reports claim that a covert Kenyan paramilitary team is responsible for the unconstitutional killing of terror suspects in nighttime raids. The reports are based on interviews with US and Kenyan diplomatic and intelligence officials.
The team was trained, armed and supported by US and British intelligence officers.
It has been reported that since 2004, a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) programme has been operational in Kenya without public scrutiny. For its part, the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) has played a key role in identifying, tracking and fixing the location of targets.
This has drawn renewed attention to the reality of widespread foreign security operations in Africa. This mechanism of unchecked military operations on those who are suspected of being terrorists will come back to haunt us.
In preparation of a blood bath in Zimbabwe the American and CIA sponsored party CCC has started labelling the Zimbabwean government as a terrorist government. This is a preparatory stage so that when the CIA trained Zambian or Zimbabwean snipers kill Zimbabwean citizens they will be justified since the government is already considered to be a terrorist government.
Are we listening are we seeing around us.

Several African governments are hosting foreign military bases. This is despite the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council’s ongoing concerns about the proliferation of foreign military bases on the continent. The AU is also concerned about its inability to monitor the movement of weapons to and from these military bases. Regardless, a host of bilateral agreements between AU member states and foreign powers underlie the spread of foreign military forces across the continent.
At least 13 foreign powers have a substantial military presence on the continent. The US and France are at the forefront of conducting operations on African soil.
For some observers it might seem like foreign governments are imposing their militaries on Africa, but, in fact, many African governments are keen to host them. This is the situation in Zambia. The so called new dawn government has posted the sun towards a wrong direction. There is no new dawn.
Bilateral agreements with major powers generate income for African states. So Zambia did not wait to think for others. It did not wait to give a thought to their actions. Their behaviour is very careless.
African countries are not agreed on how to regulate foreign security and military activities. The approach so far has been disjointed.
Though Africa’s peacekeeping capacity has increased significantly, the AU is still highly dependent on external funding and resources for its peacekeeping operations. It does not have the freedom to take independent strategic, operational and even tactical decisions in its operations.
As long as these shortcomings exist in Africa’s response to armed conflict, foreign militaries and intelligence services will continue to operate on the continent.
These are matters that have to be addressed before African states can heed the AU Peace and Security Council’s concerns about extensive foreign military involvement on the continent.
Zambia has effectively sold out and Zimbabwe must consider this as a serious warning. With general elections coming next few months our sovereignty is at stake.
Some African countries are so desperate for donations and are prepared to sell their soul for a song. Africa is poised to become one of the world’s most important economic regions. When the 54-country African Continental Free Trade Area is fully implemented, it will comprise the fifth-largest economic bloc in the world, representing a huge source of jobs, consumers, innovation, and power to shape the global economy.2021.
This explains why the West is stampeding to Africa. Leaders of African countries are naive and quickly surrender their birth rights for donations.
The choices made by Zambia are seriously hard to swallow. . The situation in crucial parts of the continent has taken a clear turn for the worse in the last four years, with earlier hopes for an “African renaissance” now replaced by the reality of spreading conflict and the impending devastation caused by AIDS. Attempts by the United States to mediate and promote negotiations in African conflicts have not brought peace anywhere, while gaining the country few friends but many enemies. Support for economic reform in Africa has led to growth in only a few countries, but has also created mounting resentment against externally imposed structural adjustment programs. Most seriously, such reforms have given renewed credibility in African countries to the same concept of inward-looking and state-controlled development that created their economic crisis in the first place. Governments that feel, and rightly so, that they have made much progress in restoring war-devastated countries feel unjustly criticized for not having done even more; efforts by international organizations to curb corruption are seen as attempts to distract attention from the failure of western-imposed economic reform programs, putting the blame instead on Africans. And the demands of activists from the industrialized countries seeking to protect workers’ rights or the environment are perceived by many Africans as manifestations of a new and insidious form of protectionism that can only hurt the poorest countries.
It should be equally obvious that the military can’t be the foundation of U.S. relations with a rising Africa. So Zambia has no reason to have a command post established in their country. If the Pentagon may be able to provide weapons, training and vehicles to African militaries, why can it offer trade deals, infrastructure projects or advice on agriculture. The U.S. military may attempt, with varying levels of success, to professionalize African militaries, but it can’t work with civilian governments, political parties or social movements to promote democracy and human rights. Indeed, Washington’s obsessive counterterrorism focus in Africa has little positive to show for its efforts, and actually risks increasing unlawful removal of democratically elected African governments.
Simply put, the U.S. military is attempting to prepare African countries to fight an enemy they actually may not have (or at least not to the extent that Washington imagines), while the U.S. government is failing to help those same countries deal with the real killers — namely, poverty and corruption.
Zimbabwe has been put in a precarious position and its a pity these so called progressive movements are progressing towards reversing the fruits of independency.
We should be very thankful to Zambia for showing us that our future is bleak with these now now political parties.
This is the time to stand up and protect our country. We mudt never ever be carried away by the winds of CCC it is demonic and satanic. Zimbabwe is the only country we can call ours in the whole world. We must defend it. It is now for our country and for peace.
Do not envy what is coming from your neighbour what looks romantic stinks. Stand up Zimbabwe and be counted.
The new dispensation has made vital contributions across the nation to economic integration, security, democracy, climate, health, and more. Zimbabwe has made it under Zidera.
Zimbabwe’s strengths is undeniable a dynamic democracy, a robust economy, and a very powerful civil society.
The challenges we face are undeniable as well including the disruption and insecurity caused by sanctions and opposition which is controlled by the foreign powers.
Then there’s Zimbabwe’s cultural influence.
But in short, what happens here in Zimbabwe is felt around the world and this must never be threatened by actions of our neighbour. Zambia makes her decisions we can only complain but we should believe in ourselves. We are Zimbabweans we must be confused by the colour of the enemy.
We know that, on most of the urgent challenges and opportunities we face, Zimbabwe will make the difference.
Zimbabwe is not just a leaders, they are increasingly prominent around the world beyond this region, and they’re deserving of a prominent seat wherever the most consequential issues are discussed.
The United States must know that it’s time to stop treating Zimbabwe as a subject of geopolitics – and start treating it as the major geopolitical player it has become and a sovereign state.
Zimbabwe is a country of young people – energized, innovative, hungry for jobs and opportunity we must not be taken advantage of by the greediness of our neighbours.
Zimbabwe is going towards a highly contentious and likely tumultuous presidential election that could alter the future of the country’s political system if the Americans are allowed to take over the government through CCC. Zimbabwe will hold general elections to elect the president, members of the National Assembly and Senate, and various county positions.
However, the presidential ballot is shaping up to be a hotly contested race, with two political gladiators as frontrunners president Mnangagwa and Nelson Biden Chamisa.
The implications of the results of the elections on Zimbabwe could be far-reaching, especially if America wins through Chamisa. Zimbabwe has to trust in its people to succeed because many countries lime Malawi Zambia are already being controlled towards side lining Zimbabwe unless America wins through Chamisa.
Hichilema and President Lazarus Chakwera’s victories in Zambia last year and in Malawi in 2020 respectively changed the electoral narrative in the region where incumbents hardly lost power through polls. America assisted these parties by starving the citizens to rebellion. They applied the politics of stomach and the Pan African leaders were kicked out. It is only now the cat jumped out of the bed. We know why the Americans are interested in regime change in Zimbabwe.
Hichilema visited South Africa recently as an invited guest speaker at a book launch where he met Chamisa. He also paid a courtesy call on South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at his Mahlamba Ndlopfu official residence in Pretoria.
Hichilema was guest speaker at the launch of a book titled Expensive Poverty: Why Aid Fails and How it can work written by his friend Greg Mills, director of the Brenthurst Foundation, a Johannesburg-based organisation established by the Oppenheimer family in 2005 to promote new ideas and innovation to strengthen economic performance in Africa.
The same foundation has secretly sponsored CCC and they are the known funders of Hopewell Chin’ono.
We might have our eyes closed but we are awake.

It is not proper for America to play big brother to Zimbabwe or Africa at large simply because they are powerful.
America will not lose sleep if Zimbabwe is wiped off the face of the earth because that is exactly what they would want and being in Zambia is a step forward to their evil plans against Zimbabwe.
So Americans did not lose sleep when their lawmen spent long days and nights crafting the Zidera document, or perhaps they didn’t as Biti drafted it for them.
And so Americans don’t lose sleep if Zimbabwe is destroyed but lose sleep when Job Sikhala and Chin’ono are arrested or that Mamombe be allowed to demonstrate? America will not be a good neighbour especially where it is called ZAMBIA.

At the end of the century, nearly 40 percent of the world’s population will be African. Yet, instead of preparing to build a relationship that can grow with the continent, based upon diplomatic cooperation, the United States is doubling down on more than a decade of reliance on its military as the primary vehicle of engaging with Africa. The consequences, as one might expect, are overwhelmingly negative.
This growing military presence is displacing diplomacy. Military advisers outnumber diplomats in embassies across the continent. Career diplomats who focus on Africa are often ignored in favor of military commanders.
It should come as no surprise then that the aggressive U.S. military presence has done little to strengthen U.S.-Africa ties so Zambia must not expect anything better from allowing the American army to camp on Zambia. Protests against bases and troop deployments have taken place in Ghana, Niger, Cameroon, Liberia and several other countries. U.S. Africa Command is actually headquartered in Germany, largely because no African country wants to host it. The unease with American militarism is likely only to grow — particularly as countries become less dependent on U.S. aid, and as certain U.S. military missions potentially provoke an increase in violent extremism.

So the question remains. ZAMBIA PLEASE ZAMBIA WHY?

Masarira Condemns USAfrica Command Office Of Security Cooperation In Zambia

Press Statement

29 April 2022

The current government of Zambia led by President Hakainde Hichilema is a security threat to SADC and Zimbabwe’s territorial integrity. Zimbabweans must be wary of the US maneuvers in Zambia as they pose a great threat to national and regional security as well as sovereignty of all SADC states.

I call upon all the Zambian people to resist such betrayal before America turns the rest of Africa into the current state of Libya. As the President of Labour Economists and Afrikan Democrats,

I vehemently condemn the US-Africa Command Office of Security Cooperation in Zambia as it is a direct threat to Zimbabwe’s territorial integrity. US is fighting to democratize Africa to control Africa and it’s resources.

They are fully aware that leaders without a military background are gullible and easy to manipulate. The US is clandestinely invading Africa in the the new scramble for Africa agenda.

Firstly, ee know that the Zambia-US Partnership is not just about Zambia. The target country is Zimbabwe and the DRC. The US is coveting minerals in the 2 countries that are neighbors to Zambia while Britain has established herself in Rwanda.

This is imperialism of Africa and it has always been coming ever since Hichilema took over the reigns in Zambia. This move is posing a security threat to the African continent and not only is it going to cause instability in Southern Africa through inviting the American Enemies to attack Southern Africa.

America has numerous enemies and having military offices in Zambia attracts Islamic Terrorist attacks and creates a launchpad for the US to carry out regime change invasion on countries that are not agreeing with it’s foreign policy and Zimbabwe is number one target because of its stance of land and black economic Empowerment.

This move was first resisted by Thabo Mbeki in 2006 when they wanted to establish a similar office in Botswana. It is appalling that Hichilema is naive and has no understanding of the history and geopolitical context of Africa and the complexities of decolonization. Hichilema is selling out the struggles of founding fathers of Zambia Kenneth Kaunda and the Frontline States principles.

Zambia suffered the brutal attacks from the colonial Smith Regime who unleashed brutal force at Freedom camp and Mukushi, killing hundreds of Zimbabwean liberation war fighters that were housed by Zambia. In all honesty,

Kenneth Kaunda should be turning in his grave to see this happening now. What Hichilema is doing is a betrayal of fellow African countries and is creating a room for proxy wars that ravaged Middle North Africa and the Middle east countries like Libya and Syria.

The SADC troika and SADC heads of state must educate him of the risks that he is dragging Zambia into by allowing himself to be the Zelensky of Southern Africa. Government of Zimbabwe should put more effort into uniting the people of Zimbabwe and boosting the morale of the security sector.

President Mnangagwa should play an active role into uniting SADC states against the impending recolonization of Africa which is being launchpadded in Zambia. History has a way of repeating itself,

Zambia was used a a benchmark of the liberation of all SADC states and the neocolonialists agenda of the new scramble for Africa has strategically planned the recolonization agenda of Africa starting from Zambia.

This is a real cause of concern to all SADC states which must not be taken lightly. In conclusion, Yes. President ED Mnangagwa is his capacity as Head of State should engage his counterpart in Zambia President H Hichilema and counsel him on the historical context and the implications of AFRICOM presence in the SADC region,

fellow Liberation movements in the SADC region should engage each other and find a way of dealing with this impending threat of neo colonialism and regional security.

Chamisa Bemoans Poor Civil Servants Salaries

By- The Nelson Chamisa led CCC, said they were concerned about poor salaries and harsh working conditions the workers are enduring.

CCC said this in its International Workers Day celebration message on Sunday.

CCC tweeted:

Today we join the rest of the world in commemorating #InternationalWorkersDay.We remain committed to the struggle for improved working conditions for workers in Zim. In the new Zim,the dignity of workers will be restored.Workers will earn a living wage& be treated with respect.

LEAD’s Workers Day Statement

LEAD President Workers Day 2022 statement

1 May 2022

As the whole world celebrates Workers day today, my heart bleeds with sorrow about the current working conditions of the majority of workers in Zimbabwe who are struggling to make ends meet.

One of the struggles that led to the Chimurenga liberation struggle was the worker’s struggle, need for self determination, equal opportunities and land to all native Zimbabweans.

42 years after independence, workers are now in a worse off situation than they were in the colonial era. The gains of the liberation struggle have been reversed by a governance system that is anti-workers and leaders who are greedy, selfish and corrupt across the political divide.

Politicians continue using the worker’s struggle for their own political grandstanding at the expense of the worker. The struggle for emancipation by the Zimbabwean workers has its roots in the happenings of the late 19th Century.

After obtaining the Rudd concession the whites did not stop but rushed to obtain the royal charter from the Queen of England. If one reads this colonial document together with the Rudd concession they will realize that it was these documents that stripped the Zimbabwean people of their right to own resources and turned them into labourers.

The 1893 and 1896 rebellions were efforts by our ancestors to reject being reduced to second class citizens in their own land. THE First Chimurenga was not only a fascinating protest and African struggle rallying against colonialism but a rejection of the colonial socio-economic system.

However due to superiority of fire power we lost and the whole nation was turn into a reserve of labourers for the emerging colonial state. The Africans were forced into tribal trust lands (marginal farming areas characterised by poor climatic and soil conditions) while the whites not only took the best farming lands but also began to fashion out an agro based industry.

The harsh economic conditions in the reserves had few survival options and black people had no choice but to turn to the whites for wage labour. Gradually a new type of African man who depended on wage labour emerged. To keep the Africans coming the whites not only treated these workers as subhuman but offered them very low wages.

As early as 1910 the Afrikans began to organize themselves to challenge not only the low wages but the whole idea of having to be treated as subhuman yet they were the means by which the white economy grew. In 1914, the Matabele National Home Movement became vocal in denouncing plans to reduce the size of reserves which was a means to further impoverish the Afrikans so that they could provide cheap labour to whites.

In 1922, there was a referendum on whether to have ties with South Africa but only 60 out of the 900 000 African workers and their families were eligible to vote. In response, Abraham Twala, a Zulu Anglican teacher wrote:

“Experience has taught us that our salvation does not lie in Downing Street.” Surprisingly that it’s now over 100 years and yet we the Afrikan workers are still yoked to the same forces that forced Twala to sound these words of protest.

Experience should be teaching us that our salvation does not lie at the factory door but it lies in parliament. Experience should be teaching us that our salvation does not lie at the tripartite negotiating table but lies in the August house that fashion the laws.

We desperately need laws that are pro poor at the same time protecting the interests of the worker. The case of the Zimbabwean worker today is a sad story which has seen over 80% of the working class living below the living wage or the poverty datum line.

The remainder of Zimbabwean workers have been forced to seek economic refugee in foreign lands where they not only sell their labour cheaply but work under conditions which can be referred to as modern day slavery.

These gallant sons and daughters of the Zimbabwean soil are riling under xenophobic attacks in countries like South Afrika and Botswana. To make matters worse the agents of imperialism stripped Zimbabwe of its national dignity by taking away its investment power the Zimbabwean dollar.

Without a local currency Zimbabwe is not able to create meaningful wealth to cause economic growth. In the year 1999 we the workers formed what we thought was a workers’ party to try to avert a looming economic crisis.

Unfortunately the neo-colonialists saw through our vision and sneaked into our ranks and again diverted our revolutionary efforts. Instead of championing the cause of the citizens the party worked hard to advance the interests of our former colonisers until it split several times because of power struggles.

This has been evidenced by its call for the imposition of sanctions on our motherland and the creation of an atmosphere of political intolerance and hate. It is also sad to realise that despite having given birth to the party we, the workers and citizens no longer have a voice in the movement.

We the workers and disadvantaged groups of Zimbabwe also realise the spirit of Pan Afrikanism which fueled the revolutions for political emancipation resulting the formation of the Organization of Afrikan Union has died.

We therefore take it upon ourselves to work starting in Zimbabwe to rekindle this flame and push fellow workers throughout Afrika to redirect the Afrikan effort towards getting Afrika take her seat at the table of continents on an equal footing.

In doing so we want to go into the world wielding our formidable resource and labour power which for years has been used to develop Europe and the United States of America. It’s no robbery for Afrikan labourers to demand the humane treatment of the Afrikan and the refusal by Afrika to be referred to as a third world.

We have developed cultural values and technologies which have contributed immensely to the modernization of the world and demand fair treatment. As such LEAD will be advocating for reparations from Britain and other countries that benefited with our mineral resources and cheap labour during the colonial era.

We implore government to give priority to find lasting solutions to the plight of all civil servants, war veterans and workers in Zimbabwe. The government is on record stating that “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo” which we agree to and also add that “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo vakaguta, vanezvikwanisiro zvakakwana.”

In the spirit of “Leaving no one behind” which was this years National Independence theme, we humbly request the President of Zimbabwe Cde ED Mnangagwa not to leave the worker’s behind as they are the key enablers of inclusive economic growth and achievement of NDS 1. A demotivated worker is unproductive.

We demand decent salaries for all workers and safe working conditions. To redirect our efforts to achieve full economic potential with a generational mandate we have decided to regroup under a new banner. In a show of resilience we are reorganized ourselves as Labour, Economists Afrikan Democrats (LEAD).

In this renewed existence we are applying all our efforts towards reclaiming the worker’s revolution for all Zimbabweans. • Experience has taught us that the issue is not about salaries. •

Experience has taught us that the issue is note about the cost of living. • Experience has taught us that it’s not about prizes of goods. • Experiences has taught us that it’s all about governance.

As long as we the workers are not in government nothing will change. We will not stop until all the means of productions are in the hands of a worker’s government. We will not stop until we have taken over government.

We will not stop until we have created a social democratic society directed by a workers’ government it’s time to LEAD!!!!

Together we can achieve labour reforms united in our diversity.

Gono Resurfaces

By- The former Reserve Bank Governor Gideon Gono has resurfaced, this time as an investor.

Gono had his series of multi-million-dollar tourism projects for the northern shores of Mutirikwi Dam in Masvingo approved by the government.

The Mirror has a copy of a letter dated February 19, 2021, written to Gono by Jorum Gumbo who is the Minister for Presidential Affairs and Monitoring Implementation of Government Programmes confirming the approvals.
One of the projects is a high end restaurant sitting on a rotating floor built at the highest peak of the park and giving guests 360-degree experience. The other is a top notch golf course.
The projects are to be undertaken by a company called Simply Wild in which Gono, Emmanuel Runganga Gumbo and Clifton Marcus Reed Sparrow are shareholders. Simply Wild holds a 400-hecatre piece of land at the dam where it keeps 10 lions.
Gono was invited into the company as a shareholder by Gumbo and Sparrow in 2021 and according to Gumbo; Gono has already injected US$400 000 into the project.
The proposed mega-projects are however, already blighted by the poor running of the place that has seen 21 workers going on strike complaining that they have not been paid salaries since Gono came in 2021.
The lions are also said to be getting emaciated because they are not having meat and water regularly.
Gumbo is the Zimbabwean Ambassador to Sudan and Sparrow was the original owner of Simply Wild until he ran to South Africa after his conservancies including one of the biggest in Masvingo were compulsorily taken over by Government at the height of the land reform programme in 2008.
Efforts to get a comment from Sparrow and Gono were futile but Gumbo confirmed the developments. Gumbo said Zimbabweans should look forward to massive transformation of the dam environs through mega projects by Simply Wild. He hailed Gono as a big financier.
Simply Wild’s project proposal in the hands of The Mirror shows that the company plans a 3 – 7 star holiday resort with a top notch golf course, the High-end-restaurant, Luxury cruises will also be introduced. Tree chalets, fishing and hunting are the other attractions.
“Pursuant to your meeting with His Excellency the President on February 3, 2021, I am pleased to inform you that his Excellency approved all the projects. I proceeded to write to the individual Ministers under whose jurisdiction the different projects reside. I also had telephonic conversations with each of the Ministers regarding the urgency of the same,” reads Gumbo’s letter.
Elasto Mapanzure, a worker at Simply Wild said workers are wallowing in poverty without salaries. He said that there appear to be a lot of misuse of money by managers and pointed out the current manager Levison Phikelele as a culprit. We want Gono to come and address workers,” said one worker.
Phikelele however, insisted that he fired Mapanzure and wanted him out of the company premises. He said most of the people who claimed to be on strike were not workers but prostitutes and criminals including murderers wanted by Police who are staying at Simply Wild. He said that the company now only had three workers.
Gumbo said he was extremely worried by the said situation of workers and said is not be on the shareholders but Phikelele who is the manager on the ground.
He also bemoaned the statement by his manager that there were criminals staying at Simply Wild.
“I will not react to utterances allegedly made by Phikelele that Simply Wild is harbouring murderers and prostitutes. I am a law abiding Zimbabwean so are the other two directors. There is no way murderers would roam free on our property.
“About Simply Wild allegedly having only three workers at the present moment, I can tell you that I am not aware about that. What I know is that our operations at Simply Wild cannot be undertaken by three workers alone,” said Gumbo.

Chin’ono Raises Alarm Over Zanu PF Goats Raid Threats

By- Journalist and social justice rights lobby activist, Hopewell Chin’ono has approached the police seeking to stop a Zanu PF youth league member from invading his rural plot to “steal” his goats in Murewa today.

In a letter addressed to the Officer in Charge Highlands Police and copied to the Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga and Officer in Charge Law and Order Section, Chin’ono lawyers, Mtetwa and Nyambirai Legal Practitioners said Taurai Kandishaya’s plot was criminal.

“We request that you liaise with your colleagues at Murewa Police Station to secure our client’s rural home in order to protect members of his family, employees, and all his property.
“It is our view that the police are obliged to take all steps necessary to avoid possible breaches of the peace, which may lead to loss of life and property,” the lawyers said.
“As some of the police’s functions in terms of the constitution of Zimbabwe include preventing crime in addition to protecting and securing lives and property and maintaining law and order, we request that these functions be carried out without delay as the threatened invasion is imminent and requires immediate preventative measures.”
Kandishaya threatened to seize Chin’ono’s goats in a series of posts on Twitter.
In one of the tweets he said: “I noticed Hopewell has sent (sic) my pictures standing with the President ED (Emmerson Mnangagwa).
“Just like his pictures with (Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson) Chamisa.
“Stealing goats has nothing to do with the president.
“We are coming for the goats and we are unstoppable.
Chin’ono we are coming, don’t worry. You got the goats from the government as a pass-on project.
“Your stand was even extended by the government to accommodate more goats. We have evidence.”
Chin’ono, an anti-corruption campaigner, has been arrested for supporting anti-government protests and exposing wrongdoing.
His troubles began after he used social media to expose allegedly corrupt coronavirus-related contracts for the US$60 million acquisition of protective equipment for healthcare workers. Standard

“Ritual” Burial For Mutare Mbinga

By-The late Mutare-based socialite Obert Karombe‘s burial has sparked controversy after it emerged that he was buried at night.

Many were left wondering what could have caused his family to bury him ‘late’ using torches with some concluding that there might be ‘black magic’ involved.

However, Obert Karombe’s family is yet to issue a statement on the issue.

Some said, traditionally, Kings were the ones who were buried at night, not common souls.

Obert Karombe died in a car accident whilst travelling with his girlfriend last weekend.

His girlfriend who uses the name @mamagirl_aley on Instagram survived the crash but is reported to be suffering from a broken spine.

Following his death, some people sympathised with him while others suggested he used black magic.

To support the black magic argument, some used a story reported by H-Metro reported that two years ago in which a bolt of lightning struck his cattle, at his Beatrice farm, killing 15 beasts.

The incident happened at 4 pm.

Karombe is said to have disposed of the beasts by burying them.

Meanwhile, Christ Redemption Ministries International pastor Prophet Mellontik Orasi has claimed that he had seen Karombe’s death and warned him but the Mutare-based socialite ignored and mocked him saying he hangs out with real prophets.

Zanu PF Indoctrinates Civil Servants

By- Zanu PF is forcing top civil servants to undergo indoctrination lessons at its school of ideology.

The training will be cascaded to the rank and file of the public service.

The Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology which exhibited under the Zanu PF stand at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) was first mooted after the country gained Independence from British colonial rule in 1980.
A push to operationalise the college gathered momentum in 2016 to allegedly instil a sense of patriotism and understanding of Zanu PF’s ideology by civil servants and others, who did not participate in the liberation struggle.
In 2016, a resolution was passed by Zanu PF that no candidate would represent the party in national elections without passing through the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology.
This publication gathered that top civil servants, including directors in ministries have undergone the indoctrination lessons modelled under the controversial national youth service, the difference being that there is no “military-type” training.
“It’s on course (training of civil servants at the school of ideology).
“Currently, directors in ministries have gone through that already,” a Cabinet minister confirmed yesterday.
Chitepo was chairperson of the war council of Zanu during the liberation war.
He was assassinated on March 18, 1975 in Lusaka in a car bomb and the mystery surrounding his death remains unresolved.
Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa was not available for comment while her deputy Kindness Paradza referred The Standard to Zanu PF for official comment.
Zanu PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu referred The Standard to the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology principal Munyaradzi Machacha, who confirmed the indoctrination lessons.
“It’s basic orientation for about five days although we have other customised courses for different groups and institutions to address their specific needs,” Machacha said.
“We have done the basic orientation courses in ministries, parastatals and in the Zanu PF structures.”
Machacha went on to say opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) members, including their leader Nelson Chamisa must undergo the indoctrination lessons to inculcate a culture of patriotism in them.
“The school is really a national heritage school where we treat every citizen equally regardless of political affiliation,” he said.
“If Chamisa were to come, we would put him through the same course to teach him patriotism and national conscience and to defend Zimbabwe’s national interest, which is lacking in our opposition who hero-worship our colonial masters and want the same to come and superintend over us.
“We wish every citizen to come and join this course and have a national belief system that makes us all unite in defence of our national interest.”
Machacha denied charges that the courses were partisan, in favour of the ruling party.
“Chitepo is not a party institution, but a national heritage school detached from the ruling party,” he said.
However, unions representing civil servants on Friday condemned the indoctrination lessons as unconstitutional and partisan.
“It is very unfortunate that the Zanu PF government continues to manipulate our civil servants, forcing them to participate in training that is clearly partisan.
“We condemn such acts, which really violate the constitution of our people and the fundamental rights of the civil servants,” Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) president Obert Masaraure said.
“We still have an inherent right of freedom of association and assembly. We can’t be forcing people to associate with the ruling party against their will.
“If we force them to be partisan, we are then dividing an already divided nation.”
Progressive Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe president Takavafira Zhou weighed in, saying there is nothing national about the Chitepo School of Ideology.
“It is a Zanu PF ideological college and not at all national. Anything that is partisan must be resisted by all level-headed Zimbabweans, and as teachers and civil servants, we don’t see any need to be affiliated to any political party,” Zhou said.
“The whole aspect of trying to send civil servants to an ideological college is the issue of propaganda, propagating propaganda so that civil servants parrot a political party propaganda.
“That in itself is not enviable, and we will resist that by all means necessary.”
In October 2021, the government attracted criticism from unions representing nurses after proposing to introduce patriotism and induction modules for health workers.
The proposed modules were meant to cover public health service orientation, which speaks to national heritage and patriotism among others.
In the recent past, there were plans to have civil service jobs reserved for youths who went through the notorious Border Gezi national youth service (NYS).
The NYS programme, launched by the late Youth minister Border Gezi in 2001, was introduced with the aim of drilling revolutionary and patriotic ideologies into the country’s young citizens. Standard

Stolen Car Crashes Into live Electricity Transformer

By-A 21-year-old man from Bulawayo’s Luveve suburb was arrested by the police and charged with negligent driving after he rammed into an electricity pole and damaged a transformer.

Luveve suburb was plunged into darkness after the transformer was severely damaged so much that it has to be replaced.

The man, Ngqabutho Sibanda, who was on a joyride, is yet to provide the police with his driver’s licence.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident. He said:

We confirm that accident, what we know is that it was a sole part, Ngqabutho Sibanda aged 21 years who is yet to produce a driver’s license.

Insp Ncube said Sibanda was driving along an unknown road in Old Luveve when he lost control of the vehicle and hit a transformer.

The three passengers were injured and taken to Mpilo Central Hospital for treatment.

Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) Acting Western Region General Manager Lloyd Jaji said affected residents will be without power for some time. He said:

The structure was totally damaged so we have to supply a new structure.

It is difficult to tell when people will have electricity because we will have to buy material because we did not have the material in stock so we have to get material first and install it, it’s like we are starting from scratch.

Boris Rubbishes Mnangagwa Commonwealth Readmission Plea

By- British parliament has said that Zimbabwe does not qualify to be readmitted into the Commonwealth.

Speaking in the House of Lords on Tuesday, Minister of State for the Pacific and the International Environment, Frank Zacharias Robin Goldsmith said Zimbabwe should first respect the rule of law and human rights for UK sanctions to be lifted and to be readmitted to the Commonwealth. Said, Goldsmith:

Indeed, respect for democratic principles, alongside human rights, the rule of law and civil society space, is central to Zimbabwe’s stated desire to see the UK sanctions regime lifted and to rejoin the Commonwealth.

As noble Lords are aware, the decision about whether Zimbabwe rejoins the Commonwealth is for all Commonwealth members.

In due course, we would, of course, like nothing more than to see Zimbabwe rejoin.

However, Zimbabwe cannot yet credibly be said to meet the principles set out in the Commonwealth Charter.

The Commonwealth is an association of 54 countries, most of which are former British colonies.

Zimbabwe withdrew from the Commonwealth in 2003 after the organisation refused to lift the southern African country’s suspension.

Zimbabwe had been suspended in 2002 on allegations of contravening the basic principles of the Commonwealth, as outlined in the Harare Declaration, issued at the 1991 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) held in Harare.

LEAKED AUDIO: Mnangagwa Demands USD20 Million Bribe From Food-Aid-Donors To Qualify to Feed Hungry Zimbabweans

By Own Correspondent| ZANU PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa demanded a bribe of USD20 million for food aid to be released to his own people, a top ZANU PF senior Simbarashe Marumahomo alleges in an audio leaked in October 2019.

The allegations which have remained unchallenged for over 2 years, are contained in the audio Marumahoko is heard screaming in anger. Says Marumahoko in the clip:

“Mnangagwa sold the country. What kind of the president is that? Dont talk fuc**ll about Mnangagwa he is an idiot. He is not ZANU PF, Our musangano (party) of ZANU PF has collapsed because of him.”

Another unnamed man is then heard in the background as Marumahoko tells him to go ahead to record the allegations.

He continues charging:

“Record this I don’t care. I am Simbarashe Marumahoko. I don’t care about this. I am Simbarashe Marumahoko. Imagine a person who demands 20 million bribe in order to allow his own children to access food aid. What kind of an idiot are you when you even call yourself a president?,” he asks.

Nearly 3 years later, Mnangagwa’s spokesperson George Charamba is still to respond to the damning allegations .

Long Wait… Census Results In 3 Months’ Time

THE Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (Zimstat) says it will release findings from the 2022 Zimbabwe Population and Housing Census that ended yesterday in three months’ time.
However, a mop-up exercise will run for another week to cater for those who may have been omitted in the initial count.

The census started on April 21.

Speaking to The Sunday Mail last night, Zimstat spokesperson Ms Mercy Chidemo said the three months is for analysing the data which was gathered by enumerators across the country.

“We expect results to be ready in three months’ time. We have a data quality management team which has been working on cleaning the data that was being synced to the server.

“We are having a mop-up exercise from May 1 -5, 2022 for those who were not found at home by enumerators,” Ms Chidemo said.

This year’s census was paperless, as enumerators used tablets to capture the data.

The new technology facilitates logic checks, validations during the interview, skip patterns, and makes the census more efficient in assuring high quality data enters the server without mistakes.

For the first time since 1901 when the first ever census was conducted, Zimstat introduced a dashboard that monitors the enumeration process and events on the field in real time.

In Zimbabwe, a census is conducted every 10 years and it informs how policies are crafted.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) completed the second phase of its Mobile Voter Registration blitz yesterday.

In a statement, ZEC chief elections officer Mr Utoile Silaigwana said those who want to register to vote should visit their offices in different districts across the country.

“…the commission’s 63 districts and 10 provincial offices will remain open during normal working hours for purposes of continuous voter registration in terms of 17A of the Electoral Act,” he said. -Sunday Mail

Woman Caught On Camera Abusing Boss’ Son

A Bulawayo woman who was employed as a maid has been arrested for sexually abusing her employer’s three-year-old son.

CCTV

The incident came to the fore when the toddler told his father that he was forced to fondle the maid’s breast prompting the father to check through a video of the close circuit television (CCTV) that he installed at his Montrose suburb house.

The maid, child and the parents cannot be named to protect the identity of the minor.

Last week, the maid appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Nomagugu Maphosa to answer to charges of child abuse.

She was remanded out of custody to tomorrow for trial.

Prosecuting, Mr Owen Mugari told the court that on 25 March the maid allegedly made the boy to fondle her breast when his parents were away.

When the father came back from work around 6pm, the court heard, the maid and the toddler opened the gate for him.

The child jumped into the car and as the father was driving to park the car, he generally asked his son how his day was and that is when the kid told him that he was “playing with the accused breast during the day and it was fun”.

The father then proceeded into the house and checked what was happening during the day by playing the videos in his phone which is connected to the CCTV system of the house and that is when he discovered that indeed the maid had been making his son to fondle her breast and even went on to remove her bra.

“I do not agree to the charges levelled against me, the child came to me playing, fondling my breast and I did not turn him away because I thought it was normal behaviour for kids when playing,” she said. –Chronicle

Prerequisites of A Developing Country’s Economy

By Pepukai Begede | Author of Economic Evolution of Communities.

*The prerequisites of a Developing Country – Financial Intelligence or Basic Economics intelligence.

Intelligence is a necessary ingredient for every Citizen of a given country. It is unfortunate that most people think intelligence is for the elite class who are academically gifted. The difference between seeing things through ignorance and intelligence defines the socio-economic interpretation of activities in a nation.

Mainly because individuals want to be financially stable, life coaches and motivational speakers spend abundant time educating people on financial intelligence which merely benefit a small section of the society. The impact of financial intelligence in a developing country is weaker because it mostly impacts those in cities which is a small scale in terms of rating.

Basic Economics intelligence is freedom to the poor. Poor countries are usually characterised with high inflation and unemployment. These two in my opinion are a result of lack of basic knowledge in economics fundamentals. Generally in poor communities the uneducated think that “increasing prices is making profit” and “becoming vendors is entrepreneurship”

This is a serious mistake and misunderstanding which can only be corrected by learning basic economics. Failure to give the Youth this information is killing the future of developing countries.

# basic economics learning should be compulsory in schools!

Dollarize To Do Away With Market Distortions

Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson Chamisa has urged government to dollarise and do away with market distortions that are threatening to collapse the economy.

Posting on Twitter Friday morning, Chamisa said the economic problems currently facing the country were a result of bad leadership and poor governance by the ruling Zanu PF government.

“The economy is tanking and Zimbabweans are suffering at the hands of bad leadership, poor governance and porous economic policies. As the alternative government, we propose the following to be considered and adopted:”There is a crisis of confidence in the market, citizens are suffering from the price hikes and deepening poverty level. All government policies must be demand driven, inclusive &fully consultative. The recent attack on CZI position paper by Government is regrettable and must never be tolerated,” said Chamisa.

He urged the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe to stop the foreign currency auction system and adopt the United States dollars as the sole currency while working on a roadmap towards future de-dollarisation.

“Stop the auction system and go for full dollarisation – this will immediately remove distortions, multiple pricing, arbitrage, secure stability and save exporting companies from imminent collapse and help all businesses and economic agents to preserve capital.

“In line with (3), we should immediately work on a de-dollarisation road map which is inclusive and evidence based and build on consensus as opposed to command economics and threatening businesses with statutory instruments,” added Chamisa.

The former MDC Alliance leader also called for an end to corruption, saying the country was losing US$2,8 billion dollars through illicit financial flows and graft within state enterprises.

“Stop corruption and save US$2.8bn,being the US$1.8bn through illicit financial flows and US $1bn wasted in state owned enterprises and line ministries). This money, if saved, is a real game changer. Greedy, indiscipline and corruption stand as the biggest threat to the economy!

“We must embrace a genuine social contract, which is inclusive to move forward as a nation. Also Expedite a Pre-Election Pact on elections & reforms, constitutionalism and respect of human rights so we restore our integrity in the family of nations. Genuine dialogue is key,” said Chamisa.

Dynamos winger Bill Antonio says sometimes he still pinches himself to make sure the reality that he plays for the Glamour Boys is not just a dream.

The 18-year’s rise to stardom in the blue half of the capital has been remarkable — from being just a Prince Edward School pupil, to one of the best players not only at DeMbare, but in the Premier Soccer League, within a very short period of time.

What Are Noncommunicable Diseases?

The NCD Compact will focus on five key areas of commitment:

saving, by 2030, the lives of 50 million people from dying prematurely of NCDs by implementing the most cost-effective measures to prevent and control NCDs;
protecting 1.7 billion people living with NCDs by ensuring that they have access to the medicines and care they need during humanitarian emergencies;
integrating NCDs within primary health care and universal health coverage;
comprehensive NCD surveillance and monitoring; and
meaningfully engaging 1.7 billion people living with NCDs and mental health conditions in policy-making and programming.

Important Facts About Noncommunicable Diseases

The NCD Compact will focus on five key areas of commitment:

saving, by 2030, the lives of 50 million people from dying prematurely of NCDs by implementing the most cost-effective measures to prevent and control NCDs;
protecting 1.7 billion people living with NCDs by ensuring that they have access to the medicines and care they need during humanitarian emergencies;
integrating NCDs within primary health care and universal health coverage;
comprehensive NCD surveillance and monitoring; and
meaningfully engaging 1.7 billion people living with NCDs and mental health conditions in policy-making and programming.

President Chamisa Dismisses Mnangagwa’s “Porous ” Economic Policies

Tinashe Sambiri|There is no doubt that the poor state of the country’s economy is a direct result of bad governance, Citizens’ Coalition For Change leader President Nelson Chamisa has said.

ED Tears Into Gvt Saboteurs

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has accused business of sabotaging his government.

Officially opening the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Bulawayo, Mnangagwa said: “We must practise honest and ethical business practices. Businesses cannot purport to support the government by day and sabotage the same government by night and then after play the victim. It is imperative for us all to make strategic choices for the best interests of our country.”

Businesses have been increasing prices of goods and services as well as selling goods exclusively in US dollars, citing rising inflation to hedge against losses and the cost of hard currency on the black market.

Prices of basic goods and commodities have spiralled this month, with bread now costing $480 per loaf and a 10kg bag of mealie-meal going for $1 300.

Inflation on Tuesday also spiked upwards to 96,4% up from 72,1% in March, raising fears of a possible return to hyperinflation.

But Mnangagwa said he was optimistic that the economy would turn around, despite analysts predicting gloom ahead.

Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe exports, at about US$10 billion last year, showed that his government was making strides in transforming the economy.

“Zimbabwe’s economy has moved from stabilisation to growth, hence industry must accordingly go beyond merely staying afloat,” he said.

“All sectors are, therefore, challenged to adopt entirely new business structures anchored on innovation strategy for the long-term benefit of our economy and higher quality life of our people.”

He also said the National Development Strategy 1 was registering notable results, with the economy growing last year by 7% and is expected to grow 5,5% this year.

“Equally, we have to manage risks, reduce costs and improve efficiencies and overall competitiveness. Products and services of industry must continuously address the needs of our people and our economy,” Mnangagwa said.

VP Chiwenga In Nairobi For Former Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki Funeral

By A Correspondent- Vice President Constantino Chiwenga yesterday joined several African Heads of State and government in paying last respects to former Kenyan President Emilio Mwai Kibaki during a State funeral.

The State funeral, which was attended by thousands of people, was held at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.

Leaders who attended included South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa, South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit and Tanzania Vice President Philip Isdor Mpango.

President Kibaki died last week at the age of 90.

He became Kenya’s third president after his election in 2002 and led the East African country until 2013.

In his tribute, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday said former President Kibaki was “one of the greatest African statesmen of his generation”.

He added that President Kibaki was a man of few words but of “decisive action.”

Ethiopia President Sahle-Work Zewde described President Kibaki was a true friend of her country before and after his ascension to Kenyan presidency.

In his prepared speech, VP Chiwenga said Zimbabwe was overwhelmed by the “sudden news” of President Kibaki’s death because “we had watched with deep admiration his sterling contribution to the nation building of Kenya”.

In an interview later on, VP Chiwenga said Zimbabwe and Kenya have “close relations which date back to many years ago”.

“After our independence, we kept our relationship and we immediately opened an embassy here and Kenya opened an embassy (in Zimbabwe).

“What is more important is that we now have a Commission (Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation) between the two countries which led to the signing of seven MoUs (memoranda of understanding) when the President came.

“Three were supposed to be signed if this (death of President Kibaki) had not happened, if President Kenyatta had managed to come to Zimbabwe.

“So there is an economic relationship which has developed between our two countries,” said VP Chiwenga.

President Mnangagwa recently visited Kenya on a three-day State visit to attend the Zimbabwe-Kenya JPCC, which seeks to enhance collaboration in various fields between the two countries.

ZIMSTATS Applies For 5 Day Census Extension

The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (Zimstat) has applied for an extension of the 2022 national housing and population census by five more days to enable the enumeration of those who have not yet been counted.

Zimstat Director-General Taguma Mahonde said that the extension of the census period will enable Zimstat to count everyone in order to have accurate data. Said Mahonde:

The enumeration exercise has been going on well with the exercise having been made easier by the use of technology. The process is now simple.

We appreciate that there are people who have not yet been enumerated because of various reasons and we have applied for an extension of the enumeration exercise which is our mopping-up phase so that everyone gets a chance to be counted for us to have accurate data.

On the issue of “weird” questions that are being asked by enumerators, Mahonde said the questions are relevant to the planning and development of the nation. He said:

We are always guided by the United Nations in our line of questioning and this year they wanted us to concentrate more on housing issues, that is why we had questions that had something to do with houses.

All questions asked were relevant to the planning and development of the nation.

The census was supposed to end on Saturday, 30 April, but there are pockets of households across the country that are yet to be counted.

The preliminary report of the census is expected to be out in the next three months with the final report expected to be out in six months’ time.

After Zimstat tables the final census report, electoral boundaries will be redrawn ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Chamisa’s Pre-Elections Pact On Reforms Is A Pseudo Pre-marital Power Sharing Agreement- No Reforms Will Be Implemented

By Wilbert Mukori= If I was in a position to do so, I would make reading George Orwell’s book, Animal Farm compulsory reading for all Zimbabwe for two reasons:

  1. The book is an allegorised allusion to the betrayal of the Russian Revolution by Joseph Stalin and his acolytes. The are many parallel with the betrayal of the Zimbabwe Revolution by Mugabe et al or be it the later is a hell lot more chaotic.
  • By making it compulsory reading one hopes the nation will finally learn why we are in this seemingly intractable mess of our own making.

I would go one step further and pay commission to sequel to the book in which the Boxer, the horse, supported by the sheep try to take over the farm from the pigs; which is where we are in our political history in Zimbabwe.

To those who have not read Animal Farm, Boxer took as much time to learn the five letters of the alphabet as the average animal took to learn the whole alphabet. It took him just as long to learn the next five letters and by that time he had forgotten the first five letters. The sheep are even worse than Boxer; they only thing they mastered was slogans which they would repeat without knowing what they meant!

Chamisa and his MDC cum CCC friends are Boxer and the wildebeest CCC herd are the sheep.

The people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb to elect MDC into power for the express purpose the party would implement the democratic changes necessary to end the Zanu PF dictatorship. After 22 years, 5 of which in the 2008 to 2013 GNU, MDC has failed to implement even one token reform. Not even one!

There is evidence to suggest MDC leaders failed to implement the reforms because they are corrupt. Yes, Mugabe did bribe them with the trappings of high office and with their snouts in the feeding trough they forgot about the reforms.

Still, it would be rich to believe every one of 110 MDC MPs, 40 Senators, 30 Ministers and deputy Ministers, 2 Deputy PM and the PM Tsvangirai himself were duped for five years of the GNU. The truth is the MDC leaders were and are to this day not just greedy but worst of all they are breathtakingly incompetent. Like it or not MDC leaders have failed to implement even one reform because they have never understood what the reforms are much less how they were to be implemented.

The MDC supporters, the sheep, have repeated the “Change! Chinja!” slogans and the party has returner change its name even after rebranding but they too have no clue what the changes are. And so when MDC sold out during the GNU by failing to implement even one reform the followers were none the wiser and so never took the leaders to task.

Many people have advised MDC leaders on the folly of participating in the elections without first implementing the democratic reforms they did not listen just as they did not listen when advised to implement reforms. And so the nation has been dragged into one meaningless elections after another only to give Zanu PF legitimacy.

Right now Chamisa et al are hell bent on participating in the 2023 elections knowing fully well Zanu PF is set to rig them and that, by participating, CCC will, once again, give Zanu PF legitimacy. It really is a political nightmare!

“The CCC BY-ELECTIONS LANDSLIDE VICTORY has put the world on notice that CCC is the next government in ZIMBABWE. On this, Zanu PF is panicking and cowardly disrupting our Citizens dialogue Assemblies,” Chamisa posted on twitter.

“The road to 2023 must be signposted by Pre-Election Pact on Reforms (PREPARE).”

“It’s about 60 weeks to the 2023 general election. Any dialogue must be about reforms & the road to 2023 not a GNU. As Zimbabweans, we must find each other to avoid a yet another disputed election and all it’s undesired consequences. We need a Pre-Elections Pact on Reforms (PREPARE).

“Whoever Wins an undisputed mandate in 2023 must then unite the nation, a credible inclusive Team ZIMBABWE and deliver prosperity and happiness. The next 5 years must be about nation building-transforming and developing our economy not just politics and unseemly politicking.”

There will be no meaningful reforms implemented before the 2023 election even if Zanu PF was arm-twisted to do it; with 60 weeks to go, there is no time. Chamisa knows that. And so Zanu PF will blatantly rig the 2023 elections just as it has done in the other elections in past. Chamisa and company know that too!

Still CCC will participate in these flawed elections flawed elections because they also know that Zanu PF will be giving away a few gravy train seats to entice the opposition to participate. Zanu PF needs the opposition to participate to give the flawed process some modicum of credibility and legitimacy. Chamisa et al are participating out of greed, pure and simple; they are after the few gravy train seats on offer.

As the main opposition party in the 2018 elections, Chamisa felt he and his MDC A friends were entitled for more than just the few gravy train seats they had won. Mnangagwa rebuffed his demands. Once beaten twice shy! This pre-election pact is Chamisa asking Mnangagwa to agree to appoint some CCC leaders into cabinet or agree to paying them as shadow ministers.

Mnangagwa would happily agree to this pseudo pre-marital agreement was if Chamisa dropped all this talk of reforms. Mnangagwa created the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) for the sole purpose of rewarding all the opposition presidential candidates in the 2018 and would have no problem paying a bit more to rewarding Chamisa and company.

However, to get the POLAD benefits the members had to publicly endorse the elections were free and fair and Mnangagwa was the legitimate winner. Chamisa must endorse the elections are free and fair and thus rule out the need for reforms.

The claim that this “Team Zimbabwe” will transform and develop the country is just wishful thinking. Everyone will know that Zanu PF will be calling the shots and, worst of all, the country will revert to its present status of a pariah state with the Zanu PF dictatorship back in power at the end of the day.

SADC proposed the 2008 Global Political Agreement forcing Zanu PF to agree to the implementation of the democratic reforms. And so, the 2008 to 2013 GNU had chance of transforming the country if the reforms were implemented. The inclusive government Chamisa is calling for is nothing but a variation of the existing POLAD, no meaningful reforms will be implemented because Zanu PF, the principal player, insists the elections are free, fair and credible.

A revolution once betrayed develops its own inbuilt mechanism of self-perpetuating. Russia is stuck with the Stalin style corrupt and tyrannical totalitarian dictatorship. Likewise, Zimbabwe is stuck with the Zanu PF corrupt, chaotic and tyrannical dictatorship. Chamisa and his MDC/CCC friends are so corrupt and incompetent, they will never change anything, they are just Zanu PF acolytes in all but name.

Man Crashes Stolen Car, Plunges Suburb Into Darkness

By A Correspondent- A 21 year old man from Bulawayo’s Luveve suburb was arrested by the police and charged with negligent driving after he rammed into an electricity pole and damaged a transformer.

“Extend Voter Registration Blitz”: ZEC Urged

By A Correspondent- Civic Society Organisations (CSOs), political parties and political analysts have urged the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to extend the mobile voter registration beyond 30 April 2022 to enable more people to register as voters.

The mobile voter registration was being conducted at the same time as the Registrar General’s (RGs) mobile registration exercise which was issuing national identity documents (IDs) and birth certificates.

In an interview with NewsDay, Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) Bulawayo spokesperson Swithern Chirowodza said the twenty days for the voter registration blitz was not enough.

Ibhetshu likazulu secretary-general Mbuso Fuzwayo said the mobile voter registration exercise should be extended as few people are getting national identification cards. Said Fuzwayo:

The voter blitz must be extended. They must make sure people get documentation before those doing voter registration and the number of people getting identity documents in a day is far too little which shows that the government was not ready logistically.

A political analyst, Mkhululi Tshuma, said thousands of youths are yet to get IDs, therefore, the voter registration blitz should be extended to cater for them. Said Tshuma:

It’s wrong for voter registration to be closed. The first mobile registration closed when very few people had registered mainly due to the fact that many people had no identity documents.

On the eve of the second mobile registration, the registry office started issuing IDs which was commendable.

There are still challenges in the process as thousands of people, most of them youths, are yet to acquire national IDs.

There is no one denying the fact that the second mobile registration window attracted more registrants than the first.

But this still falls short of the mark as there still remain thousands more who are still unregistered.

All you need to do is follow the queues that are still forming in the mobile registration being done by the registry office.

These are all potential voters that must not be excluded as far as voter registration is concerned.

The allocated time wasn’t enough especially seeing that there have been many logistical challenges posed especially by lack of ID documents.

We can’t talk of the time allocated without noting logistical challenges that have severely affected the process.

Former MDC-T vice president Thokozani Khupe’s spokesperson, Ntando Ndlovu said ZEC should extend the exercise for maximum benefits. Said Ndlovu:

There is no doubt whatsoever that the exercise must be extended because the teams were not enough and therefore unable to cover all the wards.

In some cases, there was little information on mobile registration centres. What is needed now are permanent registration centres in each and every ward.

We have sampled various areas in Bulawayo and the two rural Matabeleland provinces; it’s clear that most unregistered voters failed to take advantage of the current exercise.

This was mainly due to a lack of identity documents and the unavailability of information on mobile registration centres.

The allocated time was not enough; there’s a need to establish permanent registration centres in each and every ward.

ZEC and other non-state actors must intensify voter education in all the villages and towns.

Meanwhile, ZEC Chief Elections Officer Utoile Silaigwana said that the mobile voter registration exercise ends today, 30 April 2022.

In a statement released on Saturday, 30 April 2022, Silaigwana said members of the public can still register as voters at ZEC’s district and provincial offices. =Newsday/CITE
