Said President Chamisa: “We know that there are people behind the police. Police officers are doing their job – we have nothing against them.

We are the next government and we will not effect changes in the police and the army.”

President Chamisa’s rally was blocked by police details.

Police Arrest, Detain Diabetic Woman For Supporting President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri|Police on Saturday arrested 13 Citizens’ Coalition For Change members- including a diabetic 68-year- old woman.

The CCC supporters were arrested for conducting a door- to door -campaign programme in Masvingo Urban Constituency.

In a statement, CCC condemned the persecution of its members by the Zanu PF regime.

“#ALERT Ward 3 candidate, Rocky Kamuzonda & 13 CCC members were unlawfully arrested .

No charge has been preferred against them. Among the detained are a 68 year old diabetic patient, Shingairai Chapura, whom the police won’t release. She hasn’t taken her meds since 2pm,” CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said in a statement on Saturday.

Ndiraya Praises Ghanaian Signings

Dynamos coach Tonderai Ndiraya praised the performances of Bill Antonio and the two Ghanaian signings, Martin Ofori and Emmanuel Paga, after they helped the Glamour Boys to a 3-1 victory over Tenax on Sunday.

Antonio was involved in all the three goals, while Ofori opened his scoring account on his debut at the club. Paga, who also featured in the starting XI, netted in his second successive match.

“I must give it to young Bill Antonio, he was so outstanding,” Ndiraya told reporters after the match.

“All the goals we scored today came from his end. He had a brilliant game today and I hope he can keep the consistency.”

The gaffer added: “I’m also happy for the two Ghanaians who scored today, particularly Ofori, who scored on his debut.

“I’m so happy for him and Paga, for that goal he scored again which took some bit of pressure off us.”

Substitute Ralph Kawondera scored DeMbare’s other goal later in the second half, while Tenax got their consolation through Joel Munsaka.

The result sent Dynamos to third position on the log with 13 points.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Manica Shoot To PSL Summit

Manica Diamonds came from a goal down to beat Triangle United 2-1 and leapfrogged Chicken Inn to the to top of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League in the process.

The Gem Boys were trailing at the half time interval but came back for the second half more determined and scored two goals to win the match.

At the National Sports Stadium, Dynamos beat Tenax 3-1.

The Glamour Boys opened the scoring in the 5th minute, when Bill Antonio left his marker for dead on the right flank before finding Martin Ofori, who made no mistake from close range, to score his first goal for the Harare giants.

Ofori should have doubled the lead barely five minutes later, when he was sent through on goal by another Antonio pass, but he wasted the chance.

Tenax levelled matters in the 28th minute, when Edson Gavara twisted and turned past DeMbare captain Partson Jaure and unleashed an unstoppable short which rocketed past Tymon Mvula.

DeMbare took the lead again just after the hour mark, Emmamuel Paga netting from close range, before Ralph Kawondera made it three with his first goal for Dynamos, five minutes later.

At Babourfields, Highlanders coach Mandla Mpofu can breathe easily again, after his charges demolished Herentals 4-0.

Pressure was mounting on Mpofu after last week’s disappointing goalless draw with Tenax but the Bulawayo giants had a brilliant start to the game and went ahead in the 16th minute, when Nqobizitha Masuku headed home Andrew Mbeba’s cross from the right.

Bosso doubled their advantage in the 64th minute through Stanley Ngala, who got his first goal for the club.

They got their third in the 76th minute, when Adrian Silla’s shot from outside the box, found the back of the net.

Substitute Lytnoth Chikukwa got Bosso’s fourth in the 90th minute to ensure a perfect day, and relief for the under-fire Mpofu.

Elsewhere, struggling WhaWha beat Yadah 1-0.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Chidzambwa Bounces Back

Former Warriors coach Sunday Chidzambwa has returned to mainstream football after he was elected in Dynamos’ board of trustees.

The new board was elected by the club’s electoral college at a meeting on Saturday.

Chidzambwa, who is one of the surviving senior former players of DeMbare, was voted as the club’s vice chairman while Ernest Kamba, another former player, came in as the chairman.

The elected ten-member board also includes Eric Aisam as the secretary and Cremio Mapfumo as the new treasurer. David George, Moses Chunga, Clayton Munemo, Labani Kandi, Makwinji Soma-Phiri and Ignatius Kapfunde complete the list.

The new management will seek to regain the control of the club after accusing Bernard Marriot of acquiring a 51 percent shareholding fraudulently following the death of most of the founding members.

The matter has since been taken to court for judgment. – Soccer24 Zimbabwe

We Were Under Pressure – Bosso

Highlanders coach Mandla Mpofu admitted his side was under pressure to win against Herentals after dropping points in the previous games.

Bosso beat the Students 4-0 on Sunday to move away from the relegation zone.

Nqobizitha Masuku opened the scoring on the quarter hour before Stanley Ngala doubled the lead from a rebound on minute 64.

Adrian Silla then got the hosts’ third a few moments later and substitute Lynoth Chikuhwa sealed the victory on the stroke of full-time.

Speaking after the game, Mpofu said: “After the Tenax match I could see the positives, what was missing were the goals and we got them.

“I believe we built from that game in Mutare to get this result.

“We were under pressure to win this match, but l am happy for the fans, the way they cheered us is just unbelievable.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

About Abortion

Based on the latest scientific evidence, these consolidated guidelines bring together over 50 recommendations spanning clinical practice, health service delivery, and legal and policy interventions to support quality abortion care.

New recommendations to improve access to high quality, person-centred services
When abortion is carried out using a method recommended by WHO, appropriate to the duration of the pregnancy and assisted by someone with the necessary information or skills, it is a simple and extremely safe procedure.

Tragically, however, only around half of all abortions take place under such conditions, with unsafe abortions causing around 39 000 deaths every year and resulting in millions more women hospitalized with complications. Most of these deaths are concentrated in lower-income countries – with over 60% in Africa and 30% in Asia – and among those living in the most vulnerable situations.

The guideline includes recommendations on many simple primary care level interventions that improve the quality of abortion care provided to women and girls.

These include task sharing by a wider range of health workers; ensuring access to medical abortion pills, which mean more women can obtain safe abortion services, and making sure that accurate information on care is available to all those who need it.

For the first time, the guidelines also include recommendations for use where appropriate of telemedicine, which helped support access to abortion and family planning services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Removing unnecessary policy barriers facilitates safe abortion access
Alongside the clinical and service delivery recommendations, the guidelines recommend removing medically unnecessary policy barriers to safe abortion, such as criminalization, mandatory waiting times, the requirement that approval must be given by other people (e.g., partners or family members) or institutions, and limits on when during pregnancy an abortion can take place. Such barriers can lead to critical delays in accessing treatment and put women and girls at greater risk of unsafe abortion, stigmatization, and health complications, while increasing disruptions to education and their ability to work.

While most countries permit abortion under specified circumstances, about 20 countries provide no legal grounds for abortion. More than 3 in 4 countries have legal penalties for abortion, which can include lengthy prison sentences or heavy fines for people having or assisting with the procedure.

“It’s vital that an abortion is safe in medical terms,” said Dr Bela Ganatra, Head of WHO’s Prevention of Unsafe Abortion Unit. “But that’s not enough on its own. As with any other health services, abortion care needs to respect the decisions and needs of women and girls, ensuring that they are treated with dignity and without stigma or judgement. No one should be exposed to abuse or harms like being reported to the police or put in jail because they have sought or provided abortion care.”

Evidence shows that restricting access to abortions does not reduce the number of abortions that take place. In fact, restrictions are more likely to drive women and girls towards unsafe procedures. In countries where abortion is most restricted, only 1 in 4 abortions are safe, compared to nearly 9 in 10 in countries where the procedure is broadly legal.

“The evidence is clear – if you want to prevent unintended pregnancies and unsafe abortions, you need to provide women and girls with a comprehensive package of sexuality education, accurate family planning information and services, and access to quality abortion care,” Dr Ganatra added.

Following the launch of the guidelines, WHO will support interested countries to implement these new guidelines and strengthen national policies and programmes related to contraception, family planning and abortion services, helping them provide the highest standard of care for women and girls.

Quality abortion care is care that is effective – delivered by health workers with the right skills, resources, and information; safe; accessible to all those that need it; timely, and respectful of women and girls’ needs and rights.

The WHO abortion care guideline updates the former edition, released in 2012, and consolidates existing and new recommendations. The digital version is available at https://srhr.org/abortioncare

Prophet Mudzidzi Wimbo’s 1957 Prophecy Of Nelson Chamisa as President?

Today is the fourth anniversary of the death of Mudzidzi Wimbo. His most famous prophecy was in 1957 when a group of nationalists led by Joshua Nkomo visited his Gora shrine. He told that among them none of them will lead an Independent Zimbabwe. But the first Leader of an Independent Zimbabwe still in the Diaspora; had the name of the Angel Gabriel.

In his own words, “Nyika ibva muhutongi hwavachena ichienda pamunhu ari kunze kwenyika ane zita reNgirozi Mutumwa Gabriel.

Zanu PF Tops February Human Rights Violations

Zimbabwe’s electoral environment is increasingly turning violent, with the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) bearing the brunt of attacks from suspected State security agents and Zanu PF members.

According to a latest Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) February report, police and Zanu PF top the list of human rights violators, mainly targeted at CCC supporters and ordinary citizens.

“Zanu PF takes a lead in human rights violations recorded this month at 41%, and the Zimbabwe Republic Police contributes 37% of human rights violations recorded in February 2022,” the report read in part.

“This month (February), ZPP recorded a significant increase in the profile and scope of the human rights violations recorded. In January, ZPP recorded a total of 55 cases of human rights violations, the majority of them were of discrimination during food aid processes.

In the February report, ZPP recorded a total of 70 cases, with the majority of them being of political violence that left people injured or dead.

“In all of this, the majority of the victims, about 89%, are ordinary Zimbabweans, with nine percent being CCC supporters. Unfortunately, Zimbabwean politics continues to be haunted by cases of violence that can be avoided if Zimbabweans were more tolerant.”

Police last month used dogs, water cannons and tear gas to break up opposition leader Nelson Chamisa’s rally in Gokwe after law enforcement agents defied a High Court ruling for the event to go ahead.

On February 27 in Kwekwe, one CCC supporter Mboneni Ncube lost his life while 17 others were left injured after suspected Zanu PF fanatics stormed Chamisa’s rally, attacking his supporters with spears, stones and machetes.

Police also arrested 13 CCC members, accusing them of holding a car rally and failing to obey police officers directing traffic. The supporters were allegedly severely assaulted by suspected state security agents during detention. Another 80 CCC supporters were arrested in Masvingo while campaigning door to door.

New South Africa Law To Regulate Employment Of Foreigners

South African Employment and Labour Minister Thulas Nxesi has published the Draft National Labour Migration Policy and Employment Services Amendment Bill for public comment.

Employers who rely on foreign nationals as part of their workforce are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the proposed new laws, which may make it more difficult to employ foreigners in future, say legal experts at law firm Bowmans..

The bill and the draft policy were developed to provide the legal foundation and framework within which to regulate the employment of foreigners while at the same time providing for their protection.

One of the key takeaways from the bill and the draft policy is that the Department of Employment and Labour will take a more active role in matters relating to the employment of foreigners as well as the emigration of South Africans seeking employment abroad, Bowmans said.

Stricter requirements The Bill is intended to amend the Employment Services Act, 2014 to, among others, more strictly regulate the employment of foreigners in South Africa by inserting a new Chapter 3A which will impose the following duties on an employer employing foreign nationals:

To ensure that the foreign nationals are entitled to work in South Africa and perform the work for which they are employed;-

Before recruiting a foreign national, to take steps to satisfy themselves that there is no one in South Africa, other than foreign nationals, with the requisite skills to fill the vacancy;- To prepare a skills transfer plan in respect of any position in which a foreign national is employed;-

To employ foreign nationals on terms and conditions that are not inferior to the terms and conditions that would be provided to a South African citizen, permanent resident or refugee; and

-To retain copies of all documents that reflect that the foreign national is lawfully entitled to be employed in South Africa.

Quota systemThe bill also empowers the minister, by way of notice, to set the maximum quotas for the employment of foreign nationals in any sector.

The notice, to be published in the Government Gazette, must specify the period within which existing, and newly established, employers must comply with the quotas. Small employers are, however, exempt from the quotas.

The bill provides for exceptions to the maximum quotas and allows an employer to employ more foreign nationals if:A foreign national is employed to fill a position in respect of which critical skills are required (as determined in accordance with the provisions of the Immigration Act, 2002); or

The employer has applied for an exemption from the applicable quota in the prescribed form, and the exemption has been granted by the Minister.

“Any person who employs or engages an employee or worker in contravention of the Act may be liable for a fine,” Bowmans said.

“In addition to this, an employee or worker is entitled to enforce any claim s/he may have against the employer or any person who is otherwise liable in terms of any statute, collective agreement or the agreement entered into between the parties.

The claim may also be enforced on behalf of an employee or worker by a labour inspector or bargaining council agent.”

The bill also seeks to expand the scope of the Act to cover both employees and ‘workers’ and introduces the concept of a ‘digital labour platform’ which is ‘an electronic entity that enables the provision of work or services by a person to any other person in the Republic’.

In terms of the bill, for purposes of the Act, a digital labour platform is an employer and any person who provides work or services in the Republic to another person by means of a digital labour platform is a worker if:-

The payment for, or terms and conditions of, such work or services are determined by the digital labour platform; and

The digital labour platform remunerates the worker.

“The intention behind these amendments appears to be to ensure that the Act applies to ‘platform workers’, such as Uber drivers.”

“The proposed amendments to the Act raise some complex issues and are already receiving strong opposition from certain groups,” Bowmans said.

CCC Now A Serious Threat To Mnangagwa

It is now crystal clear that Citizens Coalition for Change has become a household name and a very big brand posing a serious threat to the ruling party in this short period since its birth.

What happened at Rudhaka Stadium in Marondera on Saturday where riot police blocked the CCC rally speaks volumes.

How ironic is it that President Emmerson Mnangagwa called for peaceful elections when he was addressing his supporters in Karoi while turning a blind eye to the police which blocked Nelson Chamisa’s campaign rally in Marondera on Saturday?

He indicates left while turning right.

Previously, he has on several occasions denied the opposition permission to hold their rallies citing COVID-19 and it seems his insatiable appetite to suffocate the breathing space for the opposition to campaign peacefully still exists.

He sent the  police to bar Chamisa’s rally.

What he is preaching is not synonymous with having peaceful elections.

He lied to the nation after the November 2017 coup that he was a listening President.

It should ring bells in people’s minds on why such kind of treatment is being given to the opposition.

Mnangagwa’s government is  shooting itself at the foot. Whoever is advising him is losing the plot and actually doing the Lord’s work for the opposition.

They are marketing Chamisa’s CCC brand thinking that they are destroying it.

His yellow movement is growing stronger and stronger.

What CCC needs to do is to holding on longer, putting the best foot forward and refuse to be bullied by Zanu-PF’s old tactics.

The longer this frustration goes, the greater the chances of the opposition to win the elections.

Zanu-PF is falling and will continue failing. This is signalling the end of the muddy season. Currently the odds are favouring Citizens Coalition for Change.

Mnangagwa must allow the opposition to mind its business without being hindered.

His continued selective application of the law has no room in a democratic society.

This was the second one after another rally was banned in Gokwe Nembudziya.

Despite all these bans Nelson Chamisa continues to attract large crowds without hiring buses and frog-marching or throwing bread to the people.

Zanu-PF didn’t want to be outdone by the attendance at Rudhaka Stadium.

CCC is winning the hearts of many.

Mnangagwa’s government should allow freedom of expression and gathering for peace to prevail.

Police, Zanu PF Top List Of Human Rights Violators

By A Correspondent- A Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) February report says police and ZANU PF top the list of human rights violators, mainly targeted at opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) supporters and ordinary citizens.

The report comes as Zimbabwe’s electoral environment is increasingly turning violent, with CCC supporters being attacked by suspected State security agents and Zanu PF members. Reads the report in part:

Zanu PF takes a lead in human rights violations recorded this month at 41%, and the Zimbabwe Republic Police contributes 37% of human rights violations recorded in February 2022,” the report read in part.

This month (February), ZPP recorded a significant increase in the profile and scope of the human rights violations recorded. In January, ZPP recorded a total of 55 cases of human rights violations, the majority of them were of discrimination during food aid processes.

In the February report, ZPP recorded a total of 70 cases, with the majority of them being of political violence that left people injured or dead.

The majority of the victims, about 89%, are ordinary Zimbabweans, with nine per cent being CCC supporters.

Some cases:

1). Police last month used dogs, water cannons and tear gas to disperse a CCC rally in Gokwe despite a High Court ruling for the event to go ahead.

2). On February 27 in Kwekwe, one CCC supporter Mbongeni Ncube was assaulted to death by suspected ZANU PF supporters who stormed the CCC rally armed with spears, machetes and other sharp weapons.

3). Police also arrested 13 CCC members, accusing them of holding a car rally and failing to obey police officers directing traffic. The supporters were allegedly severely assaulted by suspected state security agents during detention.

4). Another 80 CCC supporters were arrested in Masvingo while campaigning door to door.

5). In January, five CCC activists were assaulted by police following their arrest on charges of public nuisance in Harare’s central business district (CBD). But one of the victims, Erasmus Nyandoro told NewsDay that they were arrested for wearing CCC’s yellow regalia.

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said he could not comment on claims by the ZPP that police topped the list of human rights violators saying he has not received the report.

Illegal Settlers Poison Cattle

By A Correspondent- Villagers at Magalani in Matopo have complained of several incidents of poisoned cattle, while some of them are reportedly being axed by illegal settlers occupying grazing land.

The illegal settlers are allegedly buying the land from “corrupt local leaders.”

Disgruntled villagers told Southern Eye that this started after the death of Chief Lenard Mathe seven years ago. One of the victims, Sibonokuhle Sibanda said her family lost several cattle after they were axed by the illegal settlers.

“Last year seven cows were poisoned. Others were axed a few months later by the invaders.

“This year again I found five cows bleeding in the bush after they were axed, and I suspect that they were attacked by the land invaders in the area.”

Sibanda said she reported the matter to the police last year who advised her to sit down with community members and leaders to resolve the issue.  She was told that people that committed the crime were minors who could not be charged.

“I applied for a peace order between me and the attackers but the court dismissed the application and insisted on a community peace meeting even though we told them that we do not have a chief in the area to facilitate and resolve such issues.

“The case then ended without resolution,” she said.

Ward 9 councillor Bekezela Moyo confirmed the matter.  Moyo blamed the criminal activities on corrupt traditional leaders.

“We have community leaders and members who sell grazing land to strangers. Now there is conflict between community members and the invaders, which has escalated making it hard for me as a councillor to solve it since we do not have a chief,” Moyo said.

“Many cows have been axed and killed. Homes have also been burnt by angry community members. Even though steps were taken to report these issues, no proper charges were laid on the criminals.”

He said several villagers lost cattle due to conflicts between illegally settlers and community members.

Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena said they had not received reports pertaining to livestock poisoning.

Mangena said anyone caught axing or poisoning other people’s livestock would be arrested.

“We urge the community to report such crimes to the police,” Mangena said.

Rent Scandal Haunts Lupane University

By A Correspondent- In  yet another scandal the top management at Lupane State University is reportedly milking the higher learning institution through paying sick money in rentals for the properties they are using which range from ZWL$50 to ZWL$300 per month.

Indications by internal sources are that staff residing in the staff quarters are paying ZWL$75 per month, while those in the halls of residence are paying ZWL$50.

“The Vice-Chancellor ( Pardon Kuipa) who stays in a three-bedroomed air-conditioned house is paying ZWL$300 per month, including electricity and water. The Vice-Chancellor does the issuance of accommodation, and his close associates get issued ahead of more deserving individuals,” said an insider.

The Insiders concluded that proximity to the Vice-Chancellor or ceding to his demands is a weapon to unlock access to resources. They noted that procedures are applied to perceived enemies and those who deny the Vice-Chancellor, for example, women who refuse to entertain his sexual advances.

“Some staff members reside in University residences and have not paid any cent, nor electricity and water bills and they are protected by the Vice-chancellor. This is sad as the lowest-paid workers have to pay for rented accommodation almost equivalent to their salaries. It has emerged that when there were suggestions to have the rentals reviewed in 2020 through the Finance Committee, the Vice-Chancellor became furious and accused some committee members of insubordination and refused to have the rentals reviewed,” said insider.

“The meeting was adjourned as there was tension in the meeting since the Vice-Chancellor refused an upward review. He wanted to continue paying ZWL$300 in his allocated house, where some of his two lovers fought after a clash. Reliable sources revealed that after the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor wrote to the Chairman of Council and the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, citing that he wanted to set an example with the Finance member, who had tabled a paper on rental review. Disciplinary processes were set on 18 December 2020, which never yielded any results because it was procedural to review rentals.”

Insiders noted that one of the council member who was part of the hearing, was immediately removed from the LSU council unceremoniously as he was viewed as a threat by the Vice-Chancellor.

The insiders said this is after he had challenged the unprofessional behaviour of the Vice-Chancellor and brought the meeting to a halt.

“Some highlighted that this behaviour was not surprising as the Vice-Chancellor refused to have the sale price of his contractual reviewed and paid less than an equivalent of US$200 for an SUV, which the institution bought for over US$85 000. Since 2020 the rentals have not been reviewed in any committee as the issue resulted in the Finance member facing disciplinary for reviewing rentals and the removal of one member for setting the record straight,” said the insider.

“Insiders are concerned that institutional resources are being milked by external people who will leave the institution after the expiry of their contracts and leave the place ruined and desolate. Others noted the construction of sub-standard infrastructure like offices that were constructed from precast material whose costs were astronomical as a ploy to underdeveloped the region.

The insiders said since 2020, the Vice-Chancellor has snubbed recommendations to align rentals with the cost of services for deliberations by the Council. He will then remove all agenda items that expose him. Governance systems have since collapsed, and others lamented that he has no conscience.

“He even refused the audit report that was conducted concerning the nepotism of employing her daughter Florence as the sole candidate to be presented to the Council. Up-to-date, the report was never presented to Council. The University can not follow its own procedures, but corruption and scandals are swept under the carpet, and those who practice it are rewarded. Insiders commented that one staff member who once went into the University’s results system and changed his wife’s marks was promoted and now functions as a pseudo-Pro-Vice-Chancellor,” they said.

Indications are that it has emerged that the Vice-Chancellor has power over the LSU Council as those that challenge him are removed from Council. Internal sources revealed that another Council member who was an Engineer was also removed from the Council as she demanded that the perpetual sexual harassment at LSU be investigated.

Workers Council has since written to the Chairman of Council requesting to know why senior management was paying rentals in ZWL$ yet staff members are paying rentals in US$ ranging from US$30 to US$50 where there is electricity while those that reside where there is no electricity are paying rentals ranging from US$15 to US$20.

“It’s shocking to note that top management, including the Vice-Chancellor’s Personal Assistant and the Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor who are given a housing allowance, which is a percentage of their basic salary which increases as and when there is a salary review, and they are graded under directly involved and are paying rentals ranging from ZWL$50 bond to ZWL$300,” the insider said.

Insiders lamented how top management with housing allowances twice or thrice civil servants’ salaries would pay about a dollar per month while the least paid workers pay rentals equivalent to their monthly salaries. Some lamented that rentals that management pays cannot buy a sweet.

They said student accommodation is periodically adjusted while rentals of top management make no economic sense or logic. Others scoffed, saying such amounts cannot buy a loll pop sweet, that is syphoning potential income to the institution.

“This is of great concern to the staff welfare as no one cares about staff welfare. In some meetings with staff, the Vice-Chancellor was quoted saying he did not care where the staff stayed, even on a tree and under the bridge; all he wanted was to see staff at work. This has resulted in low staff morale, and some have questioned his leadership and professionalism,” said the insider.

“One wonders who will be liable for paying penalties and interest towards rentals when ZIMRA get to know of such happenings at LSU.”

LSU spokesperson Zwelithini Dlamini said he was on the road to Lupane and promised to check with the registrar after the parliamentary portfolio on Higher and Tertiary meeting.

The ZAA UK Edition entered its 12th year of celebrating and honouring outstanding Zimbabweans in the United Kingdom and promised to uphold their commitment to celebrating Zimbabwean success stories in the diaspora.

“We are excited about what the year has in store for the ZimAchievers family as we enter into yet another era of celebrating one another,” said Skhile Khanye, ZAA UK Country Director.

“We are calling on the greater public to join our panel in nominating the high flyers over the past calendar year as we build up for the big awards night in June this year. The ZAA UK edition is the flagship of the ZimAchievers family and we remain committed to make sure every Zimbabwean success story in the UK and beyond is recognized, celebrated and honoured.”

The nomination process will be spread across four base categories of business and professional, community and sports, lifestyle, and entertainment awards and people can nominate on www.zimachievers.org

After close of nominations, the submitted names undergo an adjudication process by the ZAA Panel before announcing the final shortlisted nominees on 15 April with voting commencing the following day.

“We strive to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in the process and urge everyone to bring to the public consciousness, names of outstanding individuals and organisations whose achievements have impacted communities,” said Sakhile Khanye.

The ZAA UK edition celebrated its 10th Anniversary in a glittering ceremony at The Mayfair Hotel in London last year, having delayed the event due to the effects of the coronavirus.

ZAA was founded in 2010 to celebrate high achievers within Zimbabwean diaspora communities and have honoured various outstanding feats over the years. The organisation has, to date, branched out to other countries including the USA, Australia, South Africa, Botswana, Canada, China and keeps growing a vibrant international network of game changers in different territories.

VP Chiwenga Throws ZRP Under The Bus

By A Correspondent- Acting President Constantino Chiwenga Sunday accused the police of blocking the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) rallies around the country.

Addressing a rally in Dangamvura, Mutare, to drum up support for ZANU PF candidates in the March 26 by-elections, Chiwenga sought to absolve the government from the bans being imposed on opposition rallies. He said:

The opposition should not blame Zanu PF about the ban of its rallies.

It’s not our problem, anyone is allowed to campaign. Please, deal with the police, and don’t blame anything on the government or Zanu PF because Zanu PF is also applying to the Zimbabwe Republic Police to get clearance for its rallies.

On Saturday, police blocked a CCC rally that was supposed to be held at Rudhaka Stadium in Marondera despite High Court judge Justice Lucy Mungwari’s ruling that the rally should go ahead.

This was after police also blocked a CCC rally in Gokwe.

Economy Will Get Worse, Says Chamisa

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa yesterday warned that the economic situation will get worse because of the failure by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration to manage the local currency.

“Did you know that for every litre of fuel you buy, a total of 47 cents goes to the government in the form of taxes? That is why our fuel is the most expensive in the region. That is going to trigger massive price hikes,” Chamisa told thousands of party supporters at Dulibadzimo Stadium in Beitbridge yesterday.

Last week, the government announced another fuel hike, which saw the price of both petrol and diesel going up by 10% from US$1,51 to US$1,67 for petrol and US$1,68 for diesel. Reports suggest that an alarmed Mnangagwa blocked a mooted third increase.

The government attributed the latest price hikes to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and warned that fuel prices might continue to rise on a weekly basis.

Chamisa said apart from failure to afford basic goods and services, Zimbabweans were over-taxed.

“You will see prices of other commodities going up, that will affect your incomes and lives. CCC is a party which has the capacity to make your lives better. We will reduce the high taxation levels and ensure that fuel prices are comparative to prices charged in the region,” he said.

Chamisa said his government would enhance production and grow the economy so that the national budget will be US$100 billion as opposed to the current US$4 billion.

On elections, Chamisa said CCC would soon be taking the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) to task over the release of a biometric voters roll.

“This time we are not going to allow these guys (Zec) to rig us, we are looking at the things they are doing to rig the polls and we are clear that we want the voters roll released in biometric format,” he said.

In past elections, Zec has refused to release the biometric voters roll, citing security reasons.  It has only released the voters roll in excel format with biometrics missing.

Audits of the voters roll have revealed gross irregularities which the commission has failed to explain.

On the eve of the rally, heavily armed riot police were deployed in the border town.

Zanu-PF Beitbridge youth leaders tried to arrange a meeting at the same venue and time as the CCC rally, but police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi told NewsDay that the ZRP was in control of the situation.

CCC local authority candidates for Beitbridge are Morgan Ncube and Granger Nyoni. They were recalled in 2019 by the MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora for belonging to the MDC Alliance.

Chiwenga Absolves Govt, Zanu PF From CCC Rally Bans, Blames Police

Acting President Constantino Chiwenga yesterday accused the police of blocking the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) rallies around the country.

Addressing a rally in Dangamvura, Mutare, to drum up support for Zanu-PF candidates in the March 26 by-elections, Chiwenga sought to absolve the government from the bans being imposed on opposition rallies.

“The opposition should not blame Zanu-PF about the ban of its rallies,” Chiwenga said.

“It’s not our problem, anyone is allowed to campaign. Please, deal with the police, and don’t blame anything on the government or Zanu-PF because Zanu-PF is also applying to the Zimbabwe Republic Police to get clearance for its rallies.”

On Friday, police did not sanction a CCC rally which was supposed to be held at Rudhaka Stadium in Marondera on Saturday. This was despite that High Court judge Justice Lucy Mungwari’s ruling that the rally should go ahead as long as the CCC addressed the internal remedies that the police had cited.

On Saturday morning, police barricaded Rudhaka and turned away thousands of CCC supporters coming for the event. Heavily armed riot police formed a human wall at the stadium, blocking all entrances.

A CCC rally in Binga, which is scheduled for tomorrow, is in limbo after police did not approve it, saying that President Emmerson Mnangagwa was due to visit Hwange on March 17, and they would not have enough manpower to handle the rally.

In February, police barred CCC from using buses and lorries to transport its supporters to rallies, despite Zanu-PF bussing in its supporters to such events.

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi curtly said:  “Currently, I have not been briefed about the issue by the Officer Commanding Manicaland province. I am driving on the highway and I would want to be briefed first on the situation in Manicaland before I comment.”

Meanwhile, in his address to Zanu-PF supporters, Chiwenga aasured them that no one will die of hunger because of the drought.

“We have realised that most crops are wilting and, as government, we are going to make sure that no one suffers from hunger. We have started preparations so that we address those challenges,” he said.

“The government led by Zanu-PF has done enough to win by-elections by carrying out various projects, including road rehabilitation,” he said.

Zimbabwe goes to polls on March 26 in by-elections necessitated by recalls, deaths or diplomatic postings.

Mwonzora Says GNU Coming To Sideswipe Chamisa

MDC Alliance leader Douglas Mwonzora yesterday said a government of national unity (GNU) between his party and Zanu PF was imminent.

Addressing over 2 000 party supporters at the Zimbabwe Grounds in Highfield, who were bussed from around the country, Mwonzora said the GNU “was definite”.

“We are committed to national dialogue because it is in the best interest of the Zimbabwean people,” Mwonzora said.

At Lancaster House, there was dialogue and it brought independence. After Gukurahundi, there was dialogue and there was a Unity Accord. After the bloody election in 2008, there was dialogue and a global political agreement together with the government of national unity, which changed the lives of the people of Zimbabwe for the better.

“Then, we hereby declare that whether other people like it or not — whether they bad mouth it or not, there shall be dialogue. This dialogue shall be in the best interest of the people of Zimbabwe. No amount of hate language, propaganda, names that you give to me will change the idea whose hour has come. This is the hour of dialogue. The enemies of democracy can howl and growl, but we are going to have dialogue to end poverty, unemployment, international isolation of our country, to achieve health for all and to make sure that there are labour rights,” he said.

Currently, Mwonzora’s party is bidding to stop the March 26 by-elections, saying the proclamation of the polls by President Emmerson Mnangagwa was not procedural.

The seats fell vacant through recalls, deaths or diplomatic postings.

Mwonzora, who critics say is a Zanu PF appendage, has been pushing for dialogue with the ruling party.

Yesterday, he said he had no ambitions to become a president or prime minister in the GNU.

“We have seen enough squabbles, violence and spilling of blood and as MDC, we are saying we do not want politics of hatred, it is of no help. We want tactical politics, of rational disputation, peaceful disputation. We want dialogue, not that one becomes a president or a prime minister. We want dialogue to improve the livelihoods of the people. Some will challenge, but it can’t be stopped. It is like cyclone rainwater, it falls all day. That is how I fight,” Mwonzora said. -Newsday

Govt Promises Online Passport Periphs For Diasporans

The rollout of electronic passports (e-passports) is continuing, with the decentralisation of their production being accelerated across the country.
Further, a system to allow for online applications is set to be completed by May, a development that will allow Diasporans to easily access the travel documents.

This was said by Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe yesterday during the Zimbabwe Diaspora Engagement forum in Dubai.

Many Zimbabweans based here had sought to find out what was being done to improve their access to travel documents.

In response, Minister Kazembe said the ultimate objective was to ensure everyone in Zimbabwe and the Diaspora accessed passports without hassles.

“We have started in Harare and we are now decentralising to the rest of provincial capitals,” said Minister Kazembe. “By the way, Your Excellency (President Mnangagwa), we are already in Bulawayo and we should start next week and from there, we are going to Gwanda then Lupane, Marondera, Manicaland, Mashonaland Central and the rest of the country.”

Minister Kazembe said by June, access to e-passports should have been decentralised throughout Zimbabwe.

In terms of the Diaspora, the Government has already identified 15 embassies where the online services would be deployed. “We will start with South Africa and for the love these people have shown you (President Mnangagwa), UAE must be second.”

“The development of the online system is now 80 percent complete and GP said by the end of April, but I want to say in May, we should have this system up and running and people can apply online,” Minister Kazembe.

Provision of passports is central to the Diaspora, who cannot get work permits if they don’t have such documents, said the Minister.

Production of passports was previously affected by the sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the West, which saw the country’s payments for critical consumables being rejected. When the payments could go, Covid-19 broke out and prevented transactions across the world due to lockdowns.

Said Minister Kazembe: “The President said we should think outside the box to resolve the challenge, as we do it, we should do it better, hence the coming in of e-passports.” -Herald

Masvingo Mourns Prominent Preacher

MASVINGO – Prominent preacher and director of Isaiah 61 Ministries International Church, Elizabeth Mabhugu Chademana died as she was praying at Mangwandi Hills on the outskirts of Masvingo at 12pm yesterday.

She was 62.

She was at the mountain with a Kenyan woman, Maureen Oboge, her spiritual daughter when she died. Obegi told The Mirror that Chademana died peacefully,

“She asked me to open the Bible and read her Psalms 124. As I opened the Bible ready to read, I realised that she was now sleeping on her back. I tried to wake her up but failed and I called people back home.

“Blaki Chawapiwa and Pastor Peter Dhima came and they also failed to wake her up. We called Mars only to confirm that she was dead,” said Oboge.

Psalm 124 generally says our enemies will not make us perish because God is on our side.

Mourners are gathered at 1443 Protea Avenue in Rhdhene and burial will be on Monday at Mangwandi Cemetery.

The deceased’s niece, Blaki Chawapiwa said that the death came as a shock as she was fit and did not complain of any ailment.

She said that the deceased woke up in the morning and watered her garden and washed her clothes before leaving for Mangwandi. Up in the hill she showed Oboge around the places before they sat down to read the bible and pray.

“I still do not believe my aunt is gone. She was fit,” said Chawapiwa.

The postmortem says she died of High Blood Pressure.

Oboge said that death came when they were on fasting. However, on the day Chademana encouraged Oboge to take food as a long journey awaited her.

The burial was delayed to allow her sister Nyaradzo Mabhugu Shato to arrive from Senegal.

Chademana was born in Nyazvidzi, Gutu. She is survived by her daughter Trust Vimbai Chademana.

Leave Me Alone – Mosimane Tells Sundowns

Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has heavily-criticised his former club Mamelodi Sundowns, saying they haven’t moved on and don’t want to leave him alone.

The outspoken tactician was in charge of the Pretoria-based side for nine years before leaving them for the Egyptian giants in October 2020 but has had tension-filled relationship with Masandawana ever since.

The Al Ahly team bus was reportedly blocked by Sundowns fans before today’s CAF Champions League Group A clash, which ended 1-0 in favour of the South African side, and Mosimane cited that, as well as other issues, to castigate his former side.

“We must talk about what happened at Atteridgeville first, when they blocked the bus. When they swore at my mother, my family,” Mosimane told reporters after the match.

“I don’t want to talk a lot about Sundowns too much, I will tell you what happened even when we played Sundowns last week. There is too many personal things. I’m over those things, I don’t want to talk about them, it’s unbelievable. I don’t want to talk anymore. I’ll talk on my book on my documentary.

“Even now before every match, they’re still after me these people. They don’t want to leave me alone, I’ve moved on. You’ve got a good team, you’ve got three coaches. What do you want? Move on, leave me I’m gone. I’ve done my best, I’ve given you a great team.

“Very dirty. I’ll reveal it one day. There’s a lot, too much. The game is played on the pitch. The goal is legitimate, no problem. Thapelo’s goal in Cairo is a good goal, why do you do other underhand stuff and all that?

“It’s unbelievable. It’s really sad to be honest, for such a big team, to be honest,” he added.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Ronaldo Hat-trick Sinks Tottenham

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 59th career hat-trick to inspire Manchester United to a 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur in a Premier League match played at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The 37-year old, who continues to show that age is just a number, was clearly the difference between the two sides, on an evening when United needed to bounce back after last week’s humiliation against city rivals Manchester City at the Etihad.

Ronaldo thrust United ahead with a well-taken shot from outside the box which gave Hugo Lloris in the Spurs goal, no chance.

Spurs were awarded a penalty shortly after, when Alex Telles was adjudged to have handled in the box and Harry Kane stepped to level matters for Antonio Conte’s men.

Ronaldo restored United’s lead in the 38th minute when he latched onto a beautiful pass from Jadon Sancho and Old Trafford came alive once again.

2-1 it was at the half time interval.

Spurs restored parity in the 72nd minute when Harry Maguire toed a cross from the left into his own net as United lost the lead again.

Ronaldo put the final nail on the coffin of the North London side when he completed his hat-trick with a brilliant header, two minutes before the 90th minute mark. – Soccer24 Zimbabwe

CCC national spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said Gomba was seized from his home on Saturday afternoon by unknown men who used three plateless white Isuzu vehicles. She said:

Former Harare Mayor, Herbert Gomba has gone missing. Unknown men stormed his home in Glen Norah C at around 14:30hrs. They used 3 unregistered white Isuzu vehicles. His whereabouts are unknown.

CCC Harare province also confirmed the development, saying Gomba’s whereabouts remain unknown. It said in a post on Twitter:

Former mayor of the City of Harare and CCC candidate for the Glen Norah Ward 27 by-election Herbert Gomba is missing after he was abducted by suspected state security agents in Glen Norah in Harare this afternoon. His whereabouts are unknown.

Gomba, and three City of Harare council officials are facing corruption charges and will be in court on 14 March for trial.

Gomba, suspended town clerk Hosea Chisango, finance director Stanley Ndemera and Charles Kandemiri, face criminal abuse of office charges for allegedly illegally selling a Golf Course in Mt Pleasant.

“It’s Sheer Arrogance”

So the government of Zimbabwe can deploy Zimbabwe National Army 5th Brigade in Matabeleland to murder more than 40 000 Matabele civilians, bury them in shallow graves, rape more than 100 000 Matabele women, burn down more than 100 000 Matabele homes, displace more than 1 million Matabeles and come back after 42 years to pay Matabeleland chiefs to lead the process of exhumation and reburial of Matabele  genocide victims just like that?

Without consequences and without an iota of regret or remorse?

The news that the Chief architect of Matabeleland genocide, President Emmerson, will launch hearings for Matabeleland genocide at a date to be announced is like a stabbing pain in our hearts. The heartless murderer and coup maker is insensitive to the pain that he has caused for Matabeles. To him it is not enough, he keeps on coming back to cause more and more pain.

No no no! Over our dead bodies! The government of Zimbabwe is misreading the anger of the people of Matabeleland concerning the issue of Matabeleland genocide. This ignorance, arrogance and underestimation of the ability of the people of Matabeleland to fight for their rights will end in political disaster and blood shed in Zimbabwe. It is not too long before Mnangagwa gets what he is bargaining for in Matabeleland.

This is a day light attempt by the guilty and panic striken genocide perpetrators to interfere with the crime scene and get rid of evidence using intimidation and money. It is pure disrepect and abuse of the rights of dead and living Matabele people. It is a total disregard of the rights of the people of Matabeleland to bury and mourn their beloved ones according to their own culture.

It is a poke in the eye of the traumatised survivors of Matabeleland genocide which calls for immediate and  necessary action to remind the perpetrators that Matabeles are human beings that have the right to live as well as the right to fight in defence of the lives of vulnerable women, children and old people.

This must be said loudly and clearly. Long gone is the era of sheep like old generation of Matabeles that feared and obeyed the genocide perpetrators like gods. This generation will not allow genocidists and barbarians to keep on terrorising us in our motherland, Matabele- land. We will not sit back and watch Shona supremacists slaughtering innocent Matabele civilians and bury them in shallow mass graves and come back after 42 years to say they want to exhume and rebury the victims of Matabeleland genocide in their own terms and conditions.

This new generation will fight this evil using any means possible. If the situation demands that we take up arms and put Zimbabwe under fire, let it be. We will do that without a modicum of regret and walk chest up and out without apologising. We have got nothing to lose but our chains.

This fight is not about retaliation for Matabeleland genocide. But it is a justifiable battle to defend the dead and living Matabele genocide victims against further abuse by the blood thirst Shona supremacist government of Zimbabwe. It is about fighting for the restoration of Matabeleland state so that the people of Matabeleland will be set free to practice self determination in the independent and sovereign Matabeleland state, free from tribal oppression and threats of genocide in Zimbabwe.

Murdering unarmed civilians that include unarmed women, children and old people from a minority group is the stuff of the cowards and the weak in mind. We will leave that to the Shona supremacist government of Zimbabwe, the Goliath of our times who claims to have degrees in violence. But this pathetic Goliath  murders defenceless children, women and old people.

We will never forgive, forget nor retreat  until the Zimbabwe government pays the price for murduring innocent Matabele civilians. No one and no one should even attempt to force us to forgive and forget. No one and no one will lecture or coach us on how to bury and mourn our beloved ones that were slaughtered in cold blood by the Zimbabwe National Army 5th Brigade at the behest of the Zimbabwe government.

To Matabeleland traditional Chiefs we say ,stay clean of the blood of Matabeleland genocide victims, stay clean of the blood of your own people. Matabeleland genocide is not a cultural matter but a very political issue. When the government of Zimbabwe came to commit genocide, it never consulted you.

All the same, MLO will not consult you when we jump into the stage to defend the people of Matabeleland against the abuse by the Zimbabwe government just for the same reason that Matabeleland genocide is a political matter that needs a political solution.
To all Matabele people in general, you heard that the chief Matabeleland genocide perpetrator, Emmerson Mnangagwa, who believes that all Matabeles are cockroaches, will launch the so called genocide hearings at a date to be announced.

We ask you not to panic at all. On that day, you should  ignore him and go about your usual business. Those who drink beer, ingwebu or umqombothi must do so and forget about Mnangagwa nonsense. He is not in the right state of mind as he is  tormented by Matabeleland genocide ghosts.

To the Shona supremacist government of Zimbabwe we say the best favour you can do for us is to meet our two demands which are as follows: a)  restoration of Matabeleland state as at 3 November 1893

b)  pay US$100 billion as compensation for Matabeleland genocide, burning down and theft of Matabele properties like homes, vehicles, money in the banks, exploitation of Matabeleland resources and tribal oppression of Matabele people for 42 years, denying them the right to work, to higher education and to participate in the economy.
Anything other than the above is declaration of war against Matabele nation.

China Places Over 17million Residents Under Lockdown Over Latest Outbreak

China placed all 17 million residents in one of its biggest cities under lockdown on Sunday, as virus cases doubled nationwide to nearly 3,400 and anxiety mounted over the resilience of its ‘zero-Covid’ approach in the face of the worst outbreak in two years.

The southern tech hub of Shenzhen told all residents to stay at home as the city struggles to eradicate an Omicron flare-up linked to neighbouring virus-ravaged Hong Kong.

The lockdown and a suspension of public transport will last until March 20, a city government notice said, adding that it would launch three rounds of mass testing.

The move extends an earlier lockdown imposed on the city’s central business district.

Shenzhen reported 66 new infections on Sunday — a fraction of the 32,430 confirmed the same day in Hong Kong.

“If prevention and control is not strengthened in a timely and decisive manner, it could easily become large-scale community transmission,” Shenzhen health official Lin Hancheng said at a briefing.

The surge in infections across China has also prompted authorities to close schools in Shanghai and lock down multiple northeastern cities, as 18 provinces battle clusters of the Omicron and Delta variants.

China, where the virus was first detected in late 2019, has maintained a strict ‘zero-Covid’ policy enforced with swift lockdowns, travel restrictions and mass testing when clusters have emerged.

But the latest flare-up, driven by the highly transmissible Omicron variant and a spike in asymptomatic cases, is testing that approach.

Shanghai has so far been spared a citywide order to stay home, but individual housing compounds were being locked down as the megacity ramped up efforts to contain infections and test suspected close contacts.

Jilin — the city at the centre of the outbreak in the northeast — was partially locked down Saturday, while residents of Yanji, an urban area of nearly 700,000 bordering North Korea, were also confined to their homes Sunday.

Zhang Yan, a Jilin health commission official, said the response from local authorities had been lacking.

“There is insufficient understanding of the characteristics of the Omicron variant… and judgment has been inaccurate,” he said at a Sunday press briefing.

The neighbouring city of Changchun — an industrial base of nine million people — was locked down Friday, while at least three other small cities have been locked down since March 1.

The mayor of Jilin and the head of the Changchun health commission were dismissed from their jobs Saturday, state media reported, in a sign of the pressure placed on local authorities to contain virus clusters.

But the strain is showing, with officials increasingly urging softer and more targeted measures, while economists warn tough clampdowns are hurting the economy.

Some people in Shanghai housing compounds that have been locked down were told by authorities that the restrictions will last two days. Some schools, businesses, restaurants and malls have also been closed over close-contact fears.

Authorities also said Sunday that people cannot leave or enter Shanghai without a negative test taken in the past 48 hours.

“I have friends who I hung out with a few days ago but were suddenly quarantined recently,” Shanghai resident Serena Li told AFP.

Long lines were seen outside hospitals as people rushed to get tested.

“There’s no other way. We definitely have to do what the government has arranged,” said a data analytics worker surnamed Zhang.

Shenzhen residents told AFP earlier Sunday that they were nervous about the renewed outbreak and draconian measures that may be used to tackle it.

“It’s the worst since 2020,” a resident surnamed Zhang said.

“The closures are too sudden, my friend woke up in the morning to find her building was sealed overnight without warning. Her boss had to mail her laptop to her.”

The city, which has a large population of migrant workers, shares a land border crossing with Hong Kong — where the caseload over recent weeks has soared, alarming officials in Beijing.

Hong Kong currently has one of the world’s highest death rates from the virus, as the Omicron variant cuts through its elderly population among whom vaccine hesitancy proliferates.

As cases rise, China’s National Health Commission announced Friday that it would make rapid antigen tests available for citizens to buy online or from clinics for “self-testing”.

Although nucleic acid tests will continue to be the main method of testing, the move suggests China may be anticipating that official efforts will not be able to contain the virus. AFP

“Review ED’s Diaspora Vote Promises”

Dear Editor,

Some Government of Zimbabwe officials, led by non-other than his Excellence, the President, Comrade Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, promised Zimbabweans living in the Diaspora that preparations will be made to enable them to vote in future elections after 2018. Addressing Zimbabweans living in Namibia in January 2018 on the prospects of them voting in the 2018 harmonised elections,

President Emmerson Mnangagwa told them, “We do not have the logistics now or the capacity.” Later in March 2018, President Mnangagwa told Zimbabweans living in Rwanda that it was not possible for Zimbabweans in the Diaspora to vote from their domiciled countries “because the government does not have resources to set up polling stations in their host countries”.

President Mnangagwa repeated the same words on various other trips abroad where he had the opportunity to address Zimbabweans.

Later in the year when he went to the United Nations General Assembly, Comrade Mnangagwa addressed Zimbabweans in the United States, telling them, as accurately reported by The Herald, that a vote for Diasporans may well have been implemented for the recent 2018 elections – but his government “had not had enough time to thrash out all the attendant logistical issues”.

President Mnangagwa told the gathering that Government was looking into the logistical issues between now and the next elections in 2023 to allow Zimbabweans in the Diaspora to vote.

But before the elections, the now late Minister of Foreign Affairs had indicated that the Government had been preparing for the Diaspora vote to happen in the 2018 election, as reported by CGTN on 17 April 2018.

That was obviously too ambitious given the amount of work that needed to be done, but it sent the message that there was genuine interest in addressing the diaspora vote question as a matter of urgency.

On 6 October 2019, The Sunday Mail reported that the Minister of Justice, Ziyambi Ziyambi promised what could be a major overhaul of the local voting system where the Government was to assess the feasibility of introducing Diaspora voting to Zimbabweans living in foreign lands. Perhaps Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi may need to update Zimbabweans what progress has been made in this regard as we approach 2023.

Despite the premises by the Leader of Government and several senior officials, the Secretary for information and Publicity, Mr. Nick poured cold water on the possibility of diaspora vote, saying that Zanu PF would be disadvantaged as their officials would not be able to campaign in some countries where their officials are on targetted sanctions.

However, it is public knowledge that Zanu PF has structures in every country where they have supporters in the world. The President must demonstrate that he is not one who can be swayed by small players such as Nick Mangwana at the expense of his own reputation, which he is slowly but sure soiling through taking advice from discredited personalities like Nick Mangwana, who until his appointment to Government, living and worked in the United Kingdom, and is said to have secured permanent residence in the United Kingdom.

I salute Chief Kayisa Ndiweni for the work that he is doing to push for the Diaspora vote. His efforts must be supported by Zimbabweans living in the Diaspora. Diasporans must ask the President to fulfil his promise for the Diaspora vote. In my opinion, the Zimbabweans in the Diaspora must write to the President, deliver their letter through the respective embasses, reminding the President of is 2018 – 2019 promises as he addressed people in the Diaspora.

That letter could be copied to the Foreign Affairs Ministers of the respective countries so that they know that Zimbabweans living in their countries want their President to fulfil his 2018 election promises, asking them to assist should logistics be required.

I call upon parliamentarians across the political divide to move a motion in Parliament to implement what the President has promised the Diaspsora, who have contributed immensely to the economic being of the Zimbabwe.

The Sunday Mail of 21 March 2021 ran an editor’s brief which saluted the Diasporans for this role. Such patriotic Zimbabweans need to be acknowledged by giving them their right to vote.

I call upon members of the cabinet to seriously consider the consequences of the country failing to fulfil the Presidential promise of the Diaspora vote. We still have time to have the appropriate amendments to legislation made to ensure the Diaspora vote in 2023.

I also call upon the Southern African Development Community, the African Union and the United Nations to review President Mnangagwa’s Diaspora vote promises with a view to exerting their influence on the Zimbabwean leader to get processes speeded to ensure the Diaspora vote in 2023.

“Don’t Interfere In Our Internal Affairs” Diplomats Warned – Worst Interference Is SADC Rubber Stamping Rigged Elections

By Patrick Guramatunhu- President Emmerson Mnangagwa warned the 50 diplomatic headers accredited to Zimbabwe not to meddle in Zimbabwe’s internal affairs.

“As we begin yet another year in our relations, I challenge you, the diplomats accredited to Zimbabwe, to look through the lenses of possibilities and focus on those matters which unite us, as opposed to our areas of differences.

It is most unfortunate, however, that as Zimbabwe prepares for the 2023 harmonised elections, some forces are already seeking to influence the national discourse and destabilise the peace and stability we are enjoying as a country,” said Mnangagwa.

“Sadly, this is not new to us and is part of the decades-old regime change agenda. Those of you who may be inclined to perpetuating this blatant interference in the internal affairs of our country are urged to introspect and stop this unbecoming practice.

Let the people of Zimbabwe enjoy their unfettered right to choose their leadership. It is our democratic rights, a right which we fought for, and a right which we will protect, respect and uphold to the letter.”

The Zanu-PF government has on several occasions accused Western powers, particularly the United States and Britain of funding opposition parties to pursue a regime change agenda.

The really infuriating thing is that Zanu PF has ruthlessly denied the ordinary Zimbabweans their basic freedoms and rights including the right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country.

The people’s cry for free, fair and credible elections have been ignore under the pretext that no ordinary Zimbabwean want that only foreigners and their local puppets seeking regime changed wanted free elections.

For the first time ever in the country’s history both SADC and AU refused to rubber stamp the 2008 Zimbabwe elections as a free and fair process and thus forcing Zanu PF to accept the need to implement a raft of democratic reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections.

Sadly, the task of implementing the reforms were given to the late Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends. They sold out and failed to implement even one reform in five years.

SADC proposed that the 2013 elections should be postponed to allow the reforms to be implemented. SADC leaders told Tsvangirai and company to their faces; “If you participate in next month’s elections, you will lose.

The elections are done!” MDC leaders ignored the advice. And SADC leaders have since given up on getting Zimbabwe back on a democratic path.

Zimbabwe’s worsening economic and political situation has made the country unstable and now threatens to drag the rest of the region into the abyss. SADC leaders have no choice but to sit up and try find a solution to Zimbabwe’s economic and political mess.

Zanu PF has rigged Zimbabwe elections starting with the 1980 when the party made it clear the bush war would continue if the party lost the plebiscite.

Except for the 2008 elections SADC and AU have turned a blind eye to the rigging and rubber stamped the results giving Zanu PF legitimacy. This constitutes interference in the internal affairs of the country is the most negative way possible by helping to perpetuate the culture of rigged elections and bad governance.

Zanu PF is rigging the 2023 elections – the regime is refusing to produce a verified voters’ roll, it has denied 3 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora the vote, the wanton violence of 2008 is back, etc., etc.

The long suffering people of Zimbabwe are asking SADC leaders to call out the real 2023 election results based on the observed evidence, for a change – that is not too much to ask.

“Beware Of Fake Nurse Aide Certificates”: Zimbabwe Red Cross Society Raises Red Flag

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe Red Cross Society (ZRCS) has raised concern over the mushrooming of bogus institutions and agencies offering fake nurse aide and first aid certificates.

Lately, there has been a proliferation of agencies and institutions in the country purporting to offer nurse aide and first aid training due to the high demand of trained healthcare workers in Europe, Australia and the United States.

ZRCS is among a handful of organisations that have been offering internationally-recognised nurse aid and first aid certificates.

The organisation’s secretary general Elias Hwenga said there was need to tighten the noose on institutions and agencies that offer bogus nurse aide and first aid qualifications.

Hwenga said this while receiving a donation of 500 first aid kits from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Thursday.

“Lately, we have witnessed an increase in the number of bogus agencies offering nurse aide or first aid training in the country,” Hwenga said.

“We want to warn those who are doing so that the law will soon catch up with them and will be brought to book.”

He said there were so many organisations purporting to be working with the ZRCS in the training of nurse aides.

“As an organisation we are looking into the matter and we are doing investigations to get to the bottom of the story with regards to these bogus agencies,” Hwenga said.

He said the donated first aid kits take the Red Cross back to its ethos of alleviating human suffering.

ICRC head of delegation for South Africa Mamadou Sow said his organisation will continue supporting the ZRCS in various ways.

“The first aid kits are meant to respond to emergencies and going forward, ICRC will keep on supporting the national society,” he said.

Sow said he was impressed by the work being done by volunteers, whom he described as the “mainstay of the Red Cross movement”.-standard

Robbery, R_ape Suspect Says Victims Gave False Evidence

By A Correspondent- A robbery suspect recently denied 21 counts of robbery when he appeared in court last week claiming the victims gave false evidence about him.

Handsome Ncube who has been in custody since May 2021 in connection to 21 robbery cases appeared before Bulawayo Regional magistrate Elisha Singano.

Prosecutor Patience Sibanda told the court that Ncube together with Joshua Honest Maseko and Innocent Ncube were driving along Intemba road Hyde Park in Pumula North, Bulawayo offering lifts to residents with the intention to rob them of their property.

The trio was in the company of their accomplice Sonnyboy Sibanda who is still at large.

It is the state case that after they offered the lifts to various people, they would produce Okapi knives before robbing them of their property and money.

Indications were that they continued to do the same to other passengers until they committed 21 counts of robbery and the reports made to the police led to their arrest.

Team Pachedu Condemns Failure To Produce Verified Voters’ Roll But Not CCC For Participating In The Flawed Elections

By Nomusa Garikai: A few weeks ago, Team Pachedu, a group of IT savvy Zimbabweans, revealed some pretty shocking irregularities and illegalities in the voters’ roll such as the transfer of some voters from one Polling Station to another in another ward or constituency, away from their registered home addresses which had not changed. Only ZEC staff could have done this!

It took some IT expertise to extract these irregularities and illegalities the voters’ roll data Team Pachedu had received from ZEC. It should be noted that ZEC has never ever produced a verified voters’ roll in the country’s 42 years since independence. And ZEC has never ever produced a voters’ roll in the format suitable for analysis and auditing although this is a legal requirement.

The European Union had a 246 strong team of election observers for the 2018 Zimbabwe elections. The team was not impressed with ZEC’s conduct of the elections.

“The electoral commission (ZEC) lacked full independence and appeared to not always act in an impartial manner. The final results as announced by the Electoral Commission contained numerous errors and lacked adequate traceability, transparency and verifiability. As such, many aspects of the 2018 elections in Zimbabwe failed to meet international standards,” state the EU Observer Mission final report.

Team Pachedu’s findings was the smoking gun the EU Observer Mission report lacked!

ZEC was clearly surprise at the detailed revelations uncovered by Team Pachedu and the commission’s knee-jerk reaction was to discredit Team Pachedu.

“We would like to put it on record that Team Pachedu has, indeed, submitted our concerns to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) and it has not responded,” said Team Pachedu in a statement.

“We have also personally sent it requests for various information which it has ignored. (We had asked for a full list of candidates from the January 26 nomination court, as well as a full list of accredited observers for the March 26 by-elections). ZEC has not responded to our request.

“ZEC’s claim that it is only accountable to Parliament is also false. The Electoral Act requires ZEC to keep voters and the general public informed.

“One such way to do that is to gazette any changes it makes to the voters roll which have not expressly been requested by the voter.

“ZEC has never gazetted a list of the changes it made.”

ZEC has since fired most of its IT personal. They will be replaced by the Israel NIKUV vote rigging experts or some such experts.

Team Pachedu will find it very difficult to get any voters’ roll data from ZEC and even if they get any data, it will be near impossible to decipher.

ZEC is obliged by law to produce a verified voters’ roll but we can be 100% certain that, once again, ZEC will not produce one. We can also be 100% certain that Zanu PF is rigging these elections.

Ironically, we are also 100% certain that the MDC/CCC will participate in the 2023 elections, knowing fully well that Zanu PF is rigging the elections and that by participating they are giving Zanu PF legitimacy. Chamisa and his MDC/CCC friends are participating for the same reason they did not implement even one token reform during the 2008 to 2013 GNU when they had the golden opportunity to do so – greed.

Robert Mugabe bribed Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends with the trappings of high office they forgot about implementing reforms. “Mazivanhu eMDC adzidza kudya anyere!” (MDC leaders have learned to enjoy the gravy train good life; they will never rock the boat!) boasted Zanu PF cronies when asked why MDC leaders were not implementing the democratic reforms during the GNU.

Zanu PF has since learned that the MDC/CCC will participate in the elections giving Zanu PF legitimacy regardless how flawed the process got as long as they are assured of winning a few gravy train seats. Since the 2018 elections Mnangagwa has sweetened the bribe by offering all presidential race candidates additional perks and benefit if they joined POLAD.

“This time I assure you, there will be no rigging, I now have eyes in ZEC, I am being briefed about their every move and even if they want to rig, we will know in advance and act to avert it,” Nelson Chamisa assured his 40 000 strong supporters in Gweru last weekend.

Before the 2018 elections Chamisa made a similar claim. “MDC A has stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections” he said in Mutare. It was all just hot air as Zanu PF blatantly rigged that election. Likewise, Zanu PF is rigging these 2023 elections.

As much as Team Pachedu would want 2023 elections to be free, fair and credible; to have a clean and verified voters’ roll, at least; it is clear that will never happen when ZEC is ignoring request and legal obligation to gazette voters’ roll changes, produce a verified voters’ roll, etc. Team Pachedu know that Zanu PF is rigging these elections and they also know that Nelson Chamisa and company are determined to participate in these elections regardless hence the reason why Team Pachedu have questioned ZEC’s refusal to produce verified voters’ roll but will not question CCC’s folly in insisting in participating in the flawed elections.

Consumers Warned To Brace For Price Increases

By A Correspondent- Former Consumer Council of Zimbabwe (CCZ) chairperson Phillip Bvumbe has warned that consumers will continue to be affected by price increases due to hikes in fuel prices triggered by conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Experts expect the decline in fuel output to continue until the war in Eastern Europe ends.

However, as reported by the central bank last month, the average income is below $50 000 per month.

Experts say apart from high rates of unemployment, even those formally employed continue to earn below the poverty line. Bvumbe told Standardbusiness:

If you look at the CCZ breadbasket for the end of January it stands $75 000, up from December 2021 which was $72 000.

Now, when you look at the majority of minimum wages, they are below $50 000 and yet the family basket now stands at $75 000. So, that nature would incline that most of these people are living below the consumer council basket, which means they cannot afford to access basic commodities, which are in the basket for a family of six.

The problem worsened when the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority last week raised the price of fuel per litre by 10% to US$1.67 and US$1.68 for petrol and diesel, respectively, within one week.

Bvumbe said workers in the top-notch sectors including the banking sector were also earning below the PDL (poverty datum line).

His remarks echoed reports first made by ZIMSTAT which in a recent report found that 80% of the employed persons from both formal and informal sectors were earning a monthly income of $20 000 in October 2021, against a cost of living of $42 708, for a family of six.-standard

ZAPU “Rejects” Joining CCC

By A Correspondent- ZAPU has rejected an offer by Nelson Chamisa, leader of opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) to join the newly-formed political outfit in a bid to dislodge the ruling ZANU PF from power.

ZANU PF which has been in power since 1980 when Zimbabwe got independence from Britain is accused of running down the Southern African country.

Addressing his supporters at White City Stadium in Bulawayo last weekend, Chamisa said his party was open for coalitions with any political outfit with the objective of removing the ruling party.

He specifically mentioned ZAPU.

ZAPU however, turned down the offer saying it believes the 2018 coalition with the MDC Alliance did not yield anything for the party. Mthulisi Hanana, the ZAPU secretary-general, said:

We are not joining Chamisa.

We never said we are joining CCC.

In the party we first get consciousness with grassroots before we take such decisions.

We have never done that and Chamisa has not approached us.

So we have not made any commitment with CCC and Chamisa cannot invite us at a rally.

This has caused a rift between the leadership and grassroots.

Remember in 2018 we had an alliance with Chamisa, but Zapu got nothing out of it.

In as much as we accept that Zapu cannot be as big as CCC at the moment, we want to occupy our democratic space and we are still gaining support.

We stand for an alternative voice in the country.

ZAPU spokesperson Msongelwa Ndlovu said Chamisa’s call is a confirmation that the work being undertaken by ZAPU after the elective congress which ushered in the leadership of Sibangilizwe Nkomo is bearing fruit. Nkomo is the son of the late former Vice President Joshua Nkomo.

Ndlovu reiterated that any forms of cooperation and unity of Zimbabweans against the government of President Emmerson Mnangagwa is welcome and must be encouraged by all well-meaning countrymen.

Prevail International To Sink Boreholes For Chitungwiza Residents

By A Correspondent- Boreholes being sunk under the Presidential Borehole Scheme spearhead by Prevail International in partnership with the ruling ZANU PF party are expected to address perennial water challenges in Chitungwiza.

Residents of St Mary’s in Chitungwiza have been recycling and reusing water from dishwashing and laundry for a prolonged period of time.

Beatrice Shenje, a young mother in St Mary’s suburb said the absence of running water exposed them to unhealthy living conditions. She said:

We don’t even have a tap here because running water is not available, so we fetch water a distance away and store it in buckets.

Mr Paul Tungwarara, Prevail International CEO, said solar-powered boreholes are being sunk under the Presidential Scheme to restore the provision of safe tap water in the suburb. He said:

The programme is progressing well so far we have sunk 15 holes and they should be 20 by Tuesday. From then, we expect to have tanked and solarised. From St Mary’s we are moving to Harare East and expect to sink 60.

ZANU PF St Mary’s aspiring Legislator Nobert Jinjika said his constituency has never seen tap water therefore borehole water is a relief.

He said they will finish installing the boreholes and President Emmerson Mnangagwa will launch them all at once.

ZBC News reports that fifteen boreholes have been sunk during the past week in St Mary’s, with the programme targeting to complete 40 in Chitungwiza.

Most urban areas have struggled to access portable water regularly with local authorities citing the inadequacy of resources as the main challenge.

“Don’t Bother Me With Petty Issues”: Passion Java Speaks On Deportation Petition

DON’T bother me with petty issues.”

This is the message of defiance from Prophet Passion Java in the wake of a petition by a Zimbabwean political activist to try and get him deported from the United States.

The flamboyant prophet, through his spokesperson Boss Lashan, said there was very little on the case to worry him.

Godfrey Kurauone, a political activist, has been leading the campaign with an online petition.

This is a petty issue that we would not want to dwell on. I would rather not comment about it,” said

Businessman Wicknell Chivayo was also reported to have signed the petition.

However, statements on social media, which have been widely distributed, appear to suggest Chivayo has distanced himself from the plot.

“The US will never deport a millionaire because random people signed a petition, I am a strong ZANU PF supporter and I side with all ED loyalists,” Chivayo is said to have clarified.

The petition, which was raised by Kurauone, has received mixed reactions on social media.

“TV Sales And Home Slowly Losing It”: Disgruntled Customers Take To Facebook

She was 62.

She was at the mountain with a Kenyan woman, Maureen Oboge, her spiritual daughter when she died. Oboge told The Mirror that Chademana died peacefully.

“She asked me to open the Bible and read her Psalms 124. As I opened the Bible ready to read, I realised that she was now sleeping on her back. I tried to wake her up but failed and I called people back home.

ED’s Special Envoy’s Double Identities Mystery Unearthed

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s special envoy to Europe and the Americas Uebert Angel Snr has two identity documents while his British passport has a different date of birth raising serious questions about his integrity.

Mnangagwa last year appointed Angel Snr, aka Uebert Mudzanire, to the new position of special envoy to the president and ambassador at large to the Americas and Europe “to promote investment for the country.”

An investigation by The Standard established that the man of the cloth has two different Zimbabwe national identity cards.

His first ID, with registration number 83-099297X83, was issued at the Zaka registry offices in Masvingo in 1996 while the second one, with the registration number 29-195587H83, was obtained in Gweru in the Midlands a year later.

The two identity documents show that Angel Snr was born on September 6, 1978, but the ID numbers are different.

1). A check at the registry showed that Angel Snr has more than one national identity registration.

2). He used the 1997 ID to secure a passport in Zimbabwe, passport no ZE 306043.

3). His British passport, number 464932598 issued on November 6, 2009, showed that he was born on March 4, 1972.

4). On March 9, 2021, Angel Snr appeared before a Harare lawyer, Tichavona Mutebere, where he made an application to change his name from Uebert Mudzanire to Uebert Angel Snr claiming he was born on September 6, 1978, a birth date inconsistent with his British one but consistent with his two Zimbabwean national IDs.

5). Angel Snr has a biological brother, Samson Mudzanire, ID number 83-066977R83, who was born on April 14, 1972, which means that if he sticks to the 1972 date, then his mother, Rose Mudzanire, gave birth to two sons in 1972 within 40 days of each other.

There are also questions around Angel Snr’s academic qualifications with evidence suggesting that some of his degrees are fake.

The United States Department of Justice through Operation Gold Seal flagged Angel Snr’s Bachelor of Business Administration degree obtained from Saint Regis University as fake.

Angel Snr denies buying a fake online business degree with a “diploma-mill scheme” that was eventually shut down by the US.

Mazowe Zanu PF Officials  In Abuse of Office Storm

By Own Correspondent| A Zanu  PF  Central Committee member for Mazowe District John Nhamburo has come under scuritiny for abusing his political office to interfere with farm workers’ welfare at Blackforby and Tavydale farm in Nyabira.

Nhamburo together with his accomplice, right hand man to Kazembe Kazembe, Muwandi, allegedly harrassed a delegation that had visited the two farms owned by Nicky Mattison on a fact finding mission to establish reports on child labour at the farm.

The delegation which was reportedly led by provincial labour officer Nyekete, National Employment Council (NEC)  and labour unionist from the Progressive  Agriculture and Allied Industries Workers Union of Zimbabwe (PAWUUZ) was  bullied by the duo which chanted Zanu PF  slogans.

In a leaked letter that was addressed to Kazembe Kazembe written by the union this week, the secretary general Mr Phillip Mafundu expressed concern over the interference in union business by Nhamburo and Muwandi.

“The two political ruling members interfered and disrupted the meeting held at Tavdale Farm by Ministry of Labour of Labour Officers Mashonaland Central, NEC officials, workers  committee union officials.

“The two John Nhamburo and Shadreck Muwandi hijacked , disrupted  the meeting  chanting political slogans uncessarily name droping, threatening and insulting officials,” reads part of the letter.

“The two were dressed in ruling party regalia while  their behaviour was so riotous and aggressive.”

In their letter PAWUUZ alleges that the same happened on the 4th of March 2022 at Tavydale farm.

Efforts to get a comment from Nhamburo or Muwandi were fruitless.

However, it is not the first time Nhamburo has been implicated in violent disturbings.

In the build up to Mazowe DDC Zanu PF elections, he was allegedly accused of leading   terror gangs against the now Mazowe DDC chairman Tafadzwa Musarara.

Mnangagwa Stops Another Fuel Price Rise | REAL or PURE FALACY?

The State owned Sunday Mail celebrates how the ZANU PF President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, well known for the most draconian price shoots, has blocked another fuel price hike.

Is it practical, and will it be effected? The development comes against the background of the state failing to do basic economic tasks like staying on top of inflation currents, as well as struggling to pay civil servants.

The paper reports how Mnangagwa has directed the Government to enforce domestic remedies, including a reduction of duty on petroleum products, to control the price of fuel which went up last week on account of geopolitical factors caused by the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The rest of the piece reads:

These fresh interventions have seen the Government forestalling another price hike.

There has been a sharp increase in local fuel prices in the last fortnight after the international price for a barrel of oil increased to an average of US$130 from about US$95 since the conflict began.

Locally, fuel prices increased twice by a about US$0,30c inside a week, leaving diesel and petrol selling at US$1, 68 and US$1, 67 per litre, respectively.

As such, players in the energy sector have raised alarm over the surge saying the knock-on effect could be harmful to the recovering economy.

In an article in this edition, President Mnangagwa called for calm saying Government has taken measures to shield the economy from the global disruptions.

“We are looking at the whole duty framework to cushion our economy from shocks and pressures from galloping fuel prices,” he said.

“There is no need for panic. I have already directed the Ministry of Energy and Power Development to review and reduce duty and surcharges on fuel so the pump prices of petrol and diesel remain manageable.”

The President said Cabinet will soon deliberate on sustained implementation of the measures.

“We need stability in the fuel market so we minimise imported inflation for price stability in the economy. Cabinet will be seized with this issue in days and weeks ahead.”

As of March last year, Zimbabwe’s total taxes and levies on diesel and petrol amounted to about US$0,30c per litre.

In an engagement with players in the insurance sector on Wednesday last week, Finance and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube said the Government was already in the process of reducing fuel taxes.

“The geopolitical developments pose a risk to our economic recovery. These are what we typically call global spill overs,” he said.

“The channels of transmission of such global spill overs is through the oil price and we have seen the price of local fuel move to US$1, 68 per litre because of that movement of the FOB (Fuel on Board) price, which is a direct translation of the global oil price.

“It’s not easy to come up with risk mitigation measures, but one thing we have done is to lower the taxes on fuel from about 12,7 cents (US) to 8,7 cents (US), and that’s where we are now.”

Prof Ncube said the Government is looking to reduce the taxes further.

“We could lower it further, but it’s difficult to get to zero because we have pressures as Government, such as civil servants’ salaries and so forth,” he said.

“By the way, we have been doing that without you noticing since September (2021).”

Energy and Power Development Deputy Minister Magna Mudyiwa yesterday told The Sunday Mail that her ministry has heeded the President’s call.

“It’s true that our fuel prices are among the highest, especially in the region due to some domestic taxes and duty. The reduction of these (duty, tax and surcharges) will definitely see our fuel prices significantly going down.

“We will be reviewing the situation and provide further information in due course.”

In a statement yesterday, the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) said Government in consultation with players in the petroleum industry last week forestalled another price hike.

“The fuel prices continued to increase during the past week,” reads the statement.

“Pump prices were supposed to increase but after consultations with the Government and industry, it was agreed to maintain the current prices while monitoring market developments.

“The public and operators are advised that the blending ratio remains at E0 (Ethanol 0). Operators may sell the petroleum products below the prescribed prices depending on their trading advantages and should display prices in a prominent place as provided for by the fuel pricing regulations.”

Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) president Mr Takura Matsheza said the obtaining fuel hikes have hit industry hard and are threatening ongoing economic recovery efforts.

“It’s a very difficult situation for us as industry and the Government as well because they depend heavily on taxes from the energy sector,” he said.

“But at the moment it appears that there is no other way than to reduce taxes and levies to protect the economy as a whole and we have already made this proposal to Government.”

In a positive development, the prices of precious metals like gold have gone up.

President Mnangagwa said the fact that Zimbabwe produces some of these precious metals means the Government can leverage on their firming international prices to minimise economic shocks.

“As I write, prices of key minerals which Zimbabwe has and offers to the world, are firming up on the world market. Gold is creeping towards US $2000 an ounce; palladium which is part of our PGMs is well above US$ 3000; the price of platinum is firming daily, pointing to bright prospects.

“Lithium, already enjoying a pride of place because of the seismic shift to green economies, can only bring rich rewards to our economy.”

Mnangagwa said investments in chrome, tin and iron are also on an upward trend.

“Diamonds are holding their own, in fact rising. My recent meeting with representatives of the World Diamond Council in Brussels showed a great appetite for our parcel,” he said.

“Soon our Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company will be in the market with several parcels.

“All these good auguries in the mining sector make our USD$12 billion target realistic and achievable by 2023 if not much earlier.” -Sunday Mail

Latest On Nakamba Injury

Marvelous Nakamba is expected to return to action after the March international break, Aston Villa coach Steven Gerrard has revealed.

The Zimbabwean picked a knee injury in Villa’s visit to Liverpool in December, and the knock required surgery.

The diagnosis pointed a medial collateral ligament (MCL) damage.

After almost four months out, Nakamba is already back at training and is expected to be available for selection for the game against Wolves on 2 April.

“Obviously, Nakamba is going to be another three to four weeks, hopefully, it will be three,” Gerrard told reporters earlier in the week.

Before the injury, Nakamba had established himself as the first choice in the Villa’s central midfield. He made five successive starts under Gerrard, who took over the reins in mid-November.

Zanu PF MP Blocks Donations From Own Party Official

Zaka Central Member of Parliament Davison Svuure left villagers shocked after he blocked food aid donations sourced by ward 13 councilor Manfred Mada meant to benefit villagers, claiming that he was the only one with the right to source such donations, a move some said is a bid to consolidate his position as the front runner for the 2023 harmonized elections.

Mada said Svuure went further to write a letter to the District Development Coordinator (DDC) Memory Dhliwayo dated February 22, 2022 instructing him to stop the donations.

“I however have reservations over the activities of one Tzuchi Foundation, an affiliate of Miriro Trust for which I apparently happen to be a Founding Board Member. I noted with concern as I have observed this organization being hijacked by Mr Manfred Mada, its local representative, and transformed into a campaign vehicle in pursuit of his political aspirations.

“Mr Mada happens to be the councilor for ward 13 in Zaka Central Constituency, a known political activist and an aspiring candidate for the forthcoming House of Assembly elections. Mr Mada coordinates the activities of Miriro Trust/Tzuchi Foundation and he has literally transformed this organization into a vehicle for his political expediency,” read part of the letter by Svuure.

The letter went on to stipulate that volunteers are being used as campaigners in different wards.

“I have seen the sprouting up of unsanctioned programmes across the constituency which initially started in wards 13 and 15 but now spreading to ward 19 and others. I have also noticed an establishment of campaign agents disguised as volunteers who have been set up in the above mentioned wards. Their real purpose has remained a guarded secret but they masquerade as community workers. This group of so called volunteers ironically now brooding discontent because of these recruits are of an antagonistic, vindictive and disloyal personality who are undoubtedly poised for a confrontation and have lately been causing problems especially on input distribution programmes, which have been characterized by looting, especially in ward 19,” the letter read.

However contacted for comment Davison Svuure said he had no comment over the issue.

“I have no comment on that. Besides, l have a way of addressing that and other issues that pertain people that vote for me like you say and I do not believe doing that through the press is the best,” said Svuure.

Mada said that Svuure was frustrated as villagers claimed that he has done nothing towards development of the constituency since he was elected MP.

“I have a donor named TzuChi Foundation from Taiwan, an organization which has a well signed MOU with the government that was giving the villagers rice and other things, so this frustrates MP Svuure as the villagers are complaining that he has done nothing towards development of the constituency as compared to me. This led him to write a letter to DDC blocking people from receiving food aid. When l tried to talk to the DDC she said she will not get involved because its politics,” said Mada.

Efforts to get a comment from Dhliwayo were fruitless until the time of publishing.

It is said that Mada is eying Zaka Central constituency come 2023 hence the clashes with Svuure.

This is not the first time the two have clashed as they once clashed in 2021 when councillors demanded accountability from Svuure for the 2020 Constituency Development Fund (CDF). It is reported that Svuure accused Mada of having no knowledge on how CDF works.- TellZim

Exposed: City Council Boss Corruptly Distributing Land Via Own Ben 10

Dear Editor- A serious scandal is rocking the city of Harare.

A lady by the name Rita Chipo Barbara Mugocha(45) is fraudulently parcelling out land to her young boyfriend she stays with…

What is happening is the boyfriend Kudzai Elton Mawondo (33) looks for people who want land
and sends them to her.

They then overcharge, remove the extra mark up and share it between themselves.

Then they then surrender the actual figure to the city council after subtracting their loot.
This means the two are benefiting twice and acting as if they are not aligned.

The lady works in the department of town planning and at times she presents herself off as a town planner yet she is not.

There are audios of conversations between Mawondo and Mugocha.

There are so many anomalies in the manner she gave her Ben 10 land alongside his Boss Kuziva Mamvura, a businessman in the transport industry where they specialize in carrying pitsand and river sand just to mention a few.

Since she personally works at council in the department of town planning- was a tender flighted for the said land since it’s for commercial purposes?

If they intend to make it a residential stand- were they put on the waiting list? Was due process done or the deal was sexually transmitted?
One wonders if the rot is now from the top to bottom. As evidenced In one phonecall she, Miss Barbara Mugocha mentions the Director ? Which Director in council is this & how deep does the rot go? Even after a complaint tabled before them will they truly investigate and expose this or they are now covering up for one of their own?

ED Reads Riot Act To “Nosy” Diplomats

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday read the riot act against foreign diplomats, accusing them of meddling in the country’s internal affairs and fuelling political tension ahead of next year’s general elections.

Addressing over 50 diplomats accredited to Zimbabwe during a virtual New Year reception for heads of diplomatic missions and international organisations, Mnangagwa said diplomats must stay in their lane and focus on issues that foster unity.

“As we begin yet another year in our relations, I challenge you, the diplomats accredited to Zimbabwe, to look through the lenses of possibilities and focus on those matters which unite us, as opposed to our areas of differences. It is most unfortunate, however, that as Zimbabwe prepares for the 2023 harmonised elections, some forces are already seeking to influence the national discourse and destabilise the peace and stability we are enjoying as a country,” Mnangagwa said without naming the alleged meddling diplomats.

He added: “Sadly, this is not new to us and is part of the decades-old regime change agenda.

Government has also threatened to deregister several non-governmental organisations and civic society organisations which it claims were being funded by the West to work with the opposition to destabilise the country.

Relations between Zimbabwe and the US have been frosty since Washington imposed sanctions on Harare in 2001 under the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act over gross human rights abuses and electoral theft.

Last month, the US and the European Union extended sanctions on Harare, saying the southern African country’s human rights situation had not changed.

The US also accused Mnangagwa of cracking down on human rights defenders and introducing more oppressive laws to stifle dissent.

On Wednesday, the UK Parliament urged Mnangagwa to end political violence ahead of the March 26 by-elections after an opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) supporter was killed by suspected Zanu-PF activists at a rally in Kwekwe on February 27.

In his address to diplomats, Mnangagwa said his government was now pinning hope for the lifting of the sanctions on a report to be submitted by United Nations special rapporteur Alena Douhan, which claims that the restrictive measures are hurting ordinary people.

“It is my government’s expectation that the independent, evidence- based report being compiled for submission to the UN Human Rights Council in September 2022 by the special rapporteur on the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights will trigger a rethink among those that are maintaining these punitive illegal sanctions against us,”  he said.

“Recently, Zimbabwe presented its reports to the UN Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) working group for the third time. The feedback we receive from these periodic review sessions is invaluable and will undoubtedly enrich our quest to entrench a more democratic culture and realise an equitable society for the good of our people,” Mnangagwa said.

Local opposition parties have dismissed Douhan’s findings, saying they were pre-determined and biased.

MPs Call For 60yr Jail Terms For Rapists

By A Correspondent- Members of Parliament have called for 60-year mandatory sentences for rapists saying the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform Act) Chapter 9:23 does not prescribe deterrent sentences.

This came out in a report tabled in the National Assembly on Thursday by the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Women Affairs, Community and Small-to-Medium Enterprises Development.

The committee recommended that rape of children and people with disabilities should attract life imprisonment.

“Raping or sodomising, especially children and persons living with disabilities, in particular where the rapist is aware that he is HIV positive should attract life imprisonment, while 60 years would be the minimum sentence for any convicted case of rape,” said committee chairperson Chido Madiwa (Zanu-PF).

The Ministry of Finance should urgently strengthen the ZRP and the whole criminal justice system, through adequate provisions of financial resources, manpower and transport facilities, in order to improve the process of receiving, investigations, and prosecution, convictions and sentencing of rape cases by end of June 2022.

“The Ministry of Home Affairs must improve the victim friendly system in the country as well as decentralise it to all provinces.

“In addition, the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs should introduce trials of rape cases in camera to protect the victims from stigma and humiliation as well as increase special jurisdiction for regional magistrates in respect of all sexual offences to address the challenge of backlogs of rape and other sexual offences cases,” Madiwa said.

“The Criminal Law (Codification and Reform Act) Chapter 9:23 should be amended to ensure that it involves the victims in the sentencing process by making use of a victim impact statement in considering sentences as this would inform courts on the extent of harm suffered for purposes of imposing an appropriate sentence, in particular compensation of the victim.

“The Ministry of Women Affairs, Community and SMEs Development in conjunction with Ministry of Home Affairs should intensify community engagement to disseminate on how to handle rape and issues of sexual violence, as well as help with change of attitude towards reporting of all rape cases.”-newsday
