Top ED Ally Takes Over Sugar Producer Tongaat Hulett

A takeover of one of Southern Africa’s biggest sugar producers by a wealthy Zimbabwean family was never going to be sweet news for everyone in South Africa’s financial markets.

But, according to Hamish Rudland, who has just won a shareholder vote that will give him control of Tongaat Hulett, a Zimbabwean owning Tongaat is not a handicap. It is just what the troubled company needs.

The bulk of the company’s output is from Zimbabwe – at Hippo Valley and Triangle – and Zimbabwean shareholders know the lay of the land more than anyone, he says.

“With Tongaat’s largest operating business being in Zimbabwe, our local knowledge of the landscape and operating environment will be of significant benefit to Tongaat,” Rudland said ahead of the vote, in a response to questions over his intentions.

At an EGM on Tuesday, Tongaat shareholders approved the proposal by Magister, an entity led by Rudland, to underwrite a R4 billion rights offer for the company. Tongaat is desperate for fresh capital to erase a debt bill that was as high as R11 billion and to start fixing the damage from an accounting scandal.

Many side-eyed the deal. One headline said: “Zimbabwe tobacco barons’ planned capture of Tongaat Hulett”. It was capture, to the critics, and not a standard rights issue.

Before the vote, some minority shareholders opposed the deal. When minorities fail to pay for more shares in a rights issue, the underwriter, in this case Magister, gets more shares. Shareholders that don’t subscribe for more shares get less stock.

The problem is, the Rudlands knew that those shareholders – who would have had to pay for up to seven times the value of their shares – had little choice, given the state of Tongaat’s books. The rights issue is the last resort.

Selling assets and tightening spending failed to clear the debt. Magister saw an opportunity to take over Tongaat by underwriting a capital raise. Tongaat’s market capitalisation is around R740 million, compared to remaining South African debts above R6.5 billion.

Still, the Rudlands’ proposal did not exactly meet with cheers from minorities and the business press in South Africa. Rudland has been linked to ZANU PF and has had to face accusations that he is trying to clean dirty money from cigarettes.

This allegation relates to Hamish’s brother, Simon. He has been in the cigarette business since 2005, and his Gold Leaf Tobacco Corporation has previously been accused of flooding South Africa with cheap cigarettes. The controversy heightened when Simon survived an assassination attempt in Johannesburg, 2019. A City Press report had claimed that about 26.8% of all cigarettes sold in South Africa were “illicit” and that this trade was dominated by his Gold Leaf Tobacco.

Hamish insists Magister has nothing to do with his brothers’ business.

Nyaradzo Hikes Premium Charges By 500 Percent

Civil servants have protested strongly about Nyaradzo Funeral’s latest announcement to increase its monthly premium to ZWL$12, 771, 15 with effect from 1 March 2022.

The premium charges have risen by over 500% for a policyholder who had been paying ZWL$200 and now paying ZWL$12000.

“Dear [Censored Name] in order to preserve the value of your funeral policy benefits, with effect from 1 March 2022 your monthly premium will increase to ZWL$12, 771, 15. For any adjustments kindly visit your nearest Nyaradzo Life Assurance Company Office,” the company said via a message to its clients.

A civil servant and policyholder Loice Govo said, “It is very unfair and selfish of Nyaradzo because even if the government increases the salary, we are still going to continue getting the same previous salary because Nyaradzo charges have risen very high.”

Nyaradzo Group, one of Zimbabwe’s popular funeral service providers might have been affected by the continuously depreciating Zimbabwean dollar and these premium hikes come as a way to cover the cost of funerals.

The charges come at a time when salary increment talks between the government and civil servants are underway.

Chinese Miners Evict Binga Villagers

By- Chinese mining company Monaf Investments has given villagers in Muchesu ward 12, Binga, three months’ notice to vacate their ancestral land after it was granted a permit to extract coal in the area.

This is not the first group of Binga villagers to be ordered off their ancestral land to pave way for Chinese coal mining projects.

Last year, government flexed its muscles and ordered villagers in Dinde to relocate to allow for a similar project in their area after they had resisted.
Binga activist Mujopeni Mudimba confirmed the latest development yesterday.
“Due to economic challenges, they only did the exploration process, where sample holes were drilled in 2010 and they went back. Now under President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision 2030, they were given the greenlight to carry on with their investment and they came last year in October and resumed the project. They started by drilling a four-square metre hole which measures almost 64 metres deep and this is called a shaft,” he said.
“Then the eviction starts here. There are 14 homesteads on top of the coal belt, but not under the same village head. Some are under Siamulamfu, others under Ncheme 1, some under Siabutale. The meeting was held last week on Thursday January 12, 2022 in the presence of the Monaf Investments, ZimParks [Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority], district development co-ordinator, council, the President’s Office, EMA [Environmental Management Authority] and Ministry of Health representatives.”
Mudimba said the main agenda was preparation for resettlement of those affected and they were given a three-month notice to leave the area.
“All this will be done under Phase 1, but Phase 2 will be in two to five years’ time, we will see almost half of the ward being evicted, mostly Zuka village, and this village has two schools. The purpose is to build a power plant and other projects on the site, according to Monaf,” he said.
Mudimba said villagers were not happy with the evictions although the company promised to create jobs for the youth in the area.
“Each village head in the affected area has been given a period to go and look for a good resettlement site where houses will be built for the affected people, boreholes will be drilled and installed. This was a promise from the company. Good sanitation will be a task of the health sector,” he said.
“There are divisions among the villagers. Some wanted to resist the project, but since unemployment is a major economic challenge, almost half are in support of the project.”
A villager from Muchesu said Monaf was just making empty promises so that they could leave the area.
“We have seen a lot of people suffering as a result of these resettlements. It is impossible that this company will build houses for us or create jobs here. We are just going to suffer. It’s hard to leave our land. Things are not being done according to our will. Government does what it desires with our land,” said Simoni Mudenda.
Local councillor Mathias Mwinde confirmed the development, adding that they were holding a meeting to discuss the issue.
“Some arrangements are being made to resettle villagers. We are expecting to hold a meeting and discuss the concerns of the villagers because they are not really happy about being moved,” he said.

National Blood Bank Runs Dry

By- The National Blood Service Zimbabwe (NBSZ) has announced the nationwide shortage of Blood Group O, saying that it is now operating with a day’s supply against growing demand as the majority of Zimbabweans are of that blood group.

More than 52 percent of Zimbabweans are in Blood Group O.
Those in that group can donate to people in blood groups A and B, but they can only be transfused with blood from those in their group.
School pupils account for more than 70 percent of blood donors and following the extended closure of schools as part of measures to contain the spread of Covid-19, very little blood is being collected.

A pint of blood can save three lives and blood is usually needed by pregnant women during delivery, accident victims and patients requiring surgery.
A five days’ supply from a healthy blood bank is recommended at any given time and the NBSZ said it has more than seven days’ supply for Blood Group A, which is above the normal supply and could lead to expiries in the absence of increased demand.
For Blood Group B, the bank is running on about four days’ supply which is stable according to blood stocks standards and there is a shortage of Blood Group O.
NBSZ chief executive officer Ms Lucy Marowa said the institution had to adjust the frequency of donating to try and improve stocks.

“We do have a countrywide shortage of Blood Group O because it’s the most common blood group in Zimbabwe. At least 52 percent of people are Blood Group O meaning that even when we collect, the group is likely to dominate and at the same time it’s likely to run out faster compared to the others,” said Ms Marowa.
“Groups A and B can receive O blood but Group O cannot receive from any group other than O and this means we have a crisis if the situation does not improve. This means those in Group O cannot receive blood or undergo medical procedures that require blood urgently, they cannot be saved which may lead to an unnecessary loss of life.
We keep encouraging blood donors to come through and donate as often as possible and we look forward to recruiting more donors to improve our stocks.”
She added that in emergencies requiring blood, usually there is not enough time to do the matching and because group O is a universal blood type, doctors end up transfusing blood O and that gives a strain on blood group O because it moves out very quickly.
“We will also be allowing females to donate four times a year unlike in the olden days when they could donate after four months. Men on the other hand can now donate up to five times a year so that we improve.
This has been proven scientifically to be safe and we hope members of the public will come through and save lives,” said Ms Marowa.

Former VP Mphoko Faces Jail

By- Former Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko faces imprisonment after the court has said that he must now defend himself on charges that he wrongly ordered the release of two top Zinara officials from police custody.

This week, Harare regional magistrate Mr Trynos Utahwashe dismissed Mphoko’s application for discharge at the close of the state’s case.

Mphoko is charged with criminal abuse of office after he allegedly ordered the release of former acting chief executive of the Zimbabwe National Road Administration, Moses Juma, and former Zinara board member Davison Norupiri from Avondale Police Station after their arrest in 2016.

He had applied for discharge at the close of State case arguing that the State had failed to present evidence in court that warrants his conviction. The State opposed his application.

In his ruling, Mr Utahwashe ruled that Mphoko had a case to answer and must be put to his defence.
The matter is being held in camera although his immediate family members are allowed to attend the trial.
According to the State, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) received a case on May 6, 2016 in which Juma and Norupiri were being accused of fraud and criminal abuse of office.

Commenting on the victory, on tweeter Mnangagwa said:

Xenophobia Scare As South Africans Destroy Foreigners’ Vending Stalls

By- The are fears of xenophobia in Soweto following the launch by South Africans of an operation targeting vending stalls owned by foreigners.

The destruction of vending stalls happened at the Bara Taxi Rank in Soweto on Sunday.

The hawkers have complained that a resident-driven operation put in place to evict vendors who were in the country illegally wrongfully targeted them, resulting in them losing their stock.
The operation has also affected some local citizens. One trader said her ID book was thrown away when she provided it as proof of being a South African citizen, and that she was also accused of having obtained it illegally.
On Sunday, scores of residents, under the banner of Operation Dudula, descended on the rank to remove illegal immigrants hawking there. Watch the video below for more.
While some have criticised the South African citizens for the “xenophobic” attacks, some say blame the ANC government for failing to provide basic services to the general populace.
They say the public is expressing its anger at the wrong people, “the so-called foreigners from the other parts of Africa who are the soft targets of the frustrated communities.”

State Intensifies Mamombe, Chimbiri Persecution

By- Acting Chief Magistrate Mrs Faith Mushure has dismissed MDC-Alliance members Joana Mamombe and Cecilia Chimbiri’s application for the quashing of charges of faking their abductions, saying she had no jurisdiction to entertain their application.

Mamombe and Chimbiri, through their lawyers Mr Alec Muchadehama and Mr Jeremiah Bamu, had applied for exception and quashing of their charges saying the State allegations did not warrant criminal charges.
After Mrs Mushure dismissed their application, the duo through their lawyer, indicated that they wanted to make an application for referral of the matter to the Constitutional Court.
They had indicated that they would file a written application on January 24, but the State led by Mr Michael Reza opposed.
Mr Reza told the court that the matter had taken too long before completion and suggested that the application be made orally on an earlier date.
“They can make oral submissions because they knew that they had intention to make this application. This case has grown old,” he said.
Mr Bamu told the court that they wanted time to allow them to get a transcript of the record.
He also told the court that there was a documentary they wanted to acquire from Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) to include in their application.
Mrs Mushure ruled that Mamombe and Chimbiri make oral submissions on January 20.
On May 13 last year at around 12.30pm, Mamombe, Chimbiri and Netsai Marova, who is on the run, went to Choppies Supermarket in Warren Park 1, Harare, where they gathered with other MDC Alliance youths.
It is said they then staged a demonstration against the recalling of their MPs from Parliament and the alleged misuse of the Covid-19 pandemic funds.
On the same day, they allegedly called their friends, family and lawyers, saying they had been arrested at a roadblock near the Exhibition Park in the capital and were taken to Harare Central Police Station.
Upon receiving the communication, their lawyer Mr Jeremiah Bamu reportedly went to the police CID Law and Order.
Mr Bamu is alleged to have approached a senior officer, saying Mamombe, Chimbiri and Marova had been arrested and taken to Harare Central Police Station.
According to the State, checks were made and it was established that they were not arrested.
Social media platforms and local newspapers were awash with news that the three had been arrested, it is alleged.

Rape Accused Chief Weeps In Court

By-There were tense moments last Friday when tears ran down Chief Musarurwa’s cheeks and he rubbed them off using his hands as his attempted rape trial against a girl (14) entered its second day on Friday.
Chief Musarurwa born Enos Masakwa continuously shook his head as he sat in the dock and broke down as a young brother to the complainant, a little boy gave evidence in court.
The case was postponed to January 31, 2022.
The boy said he saw the chief’s official vehicle parked at a secluded place near his parents’ home on the day that his sister was nearly raped by the traditional leader. The marathon trial also attended by The Mirror ran from 9am to around 4pm.
None of the court officials including the Provincial Magistrate Batanai Madzingira raised any issue with the incident but it became the talking point after adjournment as people hotly debated the incident.

Chief Musarurwa is facing two cases of attempted rape after he allegedly fondled the complainant’s breasts and private parts. The first case allegedly happened inside the chief’s car and the other in his rural home.
Chief Musarurwa’s lawyer Norman Mugiya pointed out during cross examination of the complainant and her witnesses that the complainant’s evidence varied and was inconsistent. He said that the statement given to the Police was different from the one given to the Probation Officer Darlington Chigweshe and the court respectively.
Chigweshe however, said that such was normal with children and in particular when they give evidence in the presence of the accused as happened in the Friday trial. He said intimidation and fear can see children changing their statements.
The complainant’s father told the court that Chief Musarurwa gave him US$10 as an apology for fondling his daughter. That evidence was dismissed by the court.
Chief Musarurwa’s secretary also gave their evidence in court.

The state was represented by Prosecutor Corence Chimbadzwa.
It took a long time for the chief to be brought to court after the case was reported.

School Fee Rise

PRIVATE schools have continued to hike fees disregarding Government directives and the struggles parents face as a result of Covid-19 and the economic impact that have had on incomes.

Most of the schools have started online lessons, with some excluding pupils whose fees is yet to be paid.

Last week, the Acting President who is also the Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Constantino Chiwenga extended the lockdown by two weeks and further deferred the opening of schools.

Dr Chiwenga said schools and parents will be given a week after the two-week lockdown to prepare for schools’ opening if the environment is conducive.

Initially, schools were set to open for the first term of the year on January 10, except for Form One classes whose opening day was earlier on deferred to a later date as their Grade Seven results are yet to be released.

But, the President on December 30 postponed the first term 2022 schools opening to a later date citing the need to mitigate Covid-19 infections that were being recorded across the country causing a rise in deaths.

Only examination classes continued with their initial calendar, and resumed their Zimsec examinations which end on January 27.

Government recently directed all public schools that intend to adjust their tuition fees and school development levies for the 2022 first term to apply for approval from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education before effecting the changes.

However, some private schools have hiked school fees for the first term with the highest charging US$3 000.

In most cases, parents and guardians who deem fees being charged as ridiculous choose to suffer in silence, fearful that approaching the ministry will affect their children.

Dominican Convent is charging $180 000, Girls College $345 000, Christian Brothers College (CBC) US$ 1 300, Whitestone US$1 350, and S.O.S US$600 payable in local currency at bank rate.

Carmel is charging US$800, Centenary US$850, Montessori US$600 and US$50 for levy, Amazon charges US$500, Petra senior $264 000, Petra Junior is $176 000, Midlands Christian College (MCC) fees range from US$858 to US$1 408 for day scholars, and US$1 624 to US$3 872 for boarders depending on the child’s form.

A parent who spoke on condition of anonymity, expressed her frustrations at the fees increment.

“I’m not happy with the increment, especially given the fact that we don’t earn much and from the look of things, our children are not learning as expected. It’s frustrating really.

“The increment is uncalled for. Our children are also not getting enough food in boarding schools yet we pay such huge amounts of money,” she said.

Recently, Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education spokesperson, Mr Taungana Ndoro said only tuition fees structures that have been approved by the ministry will be considered binding.

Yesterday, he said fees approvals will be done on a case-by-case basis.

The Education Act states that any tuition fees adjustment must be approved by a majority of the parents at a meeting of the School Parents Assembly attended by not less than 20 percent of the parents.

Zimbabwe Teachers Association (ZIMTA) president Mr Richard Gundani said due process is not being followed by schools.

“These fees hikes must be informed by reality, and the realities on the ground are determined particularly by the parents who are the stakeholders in the schools, so what is supposed to happen is that proper information has to be given to the parents and these parents then work a plan of how they can tackle this issue looking at the budget.

“What we have realised now when we are talking to parents of children in these private schools is they are beginning to cry foul saying that the fees are now too high, then we get surprised as to who is determining this issue.

“So, the thing is, due process in most cases is not being followed in terms of determining these fees because the parents are crying foul, and in most cases that they do not get value for their money,” he said.- Chronicle

Facts About Cervical Cancer Prevention

Cervical cancer is preventable and curable, as long as it is detected early and managed effectively.

Yet it is the fourth most common form of cancer among women worldwide, with the disease claiming the lives of more than 300 000 women in 2018.

Few diseases reflect global inequities as much as cancer of the cervix. Nearly 90% of the deaths in 2018 occurred in low- and middle-income countries. This is where the burden of cervical cancer is greatest, because access to public health services is limited and screening and treatment for the disease have not been widely implemented.

An ambitious, concerted and inclusive strategy has been developed to guide the elimination of cervical cancer as a public health problem.

A global strategy
In May 2018, the WHO Director-General announced a global call for action to eliminate cervical cancer, underscoring renewed political will to make elimination a reality and calling for all stakeholders to unite behind this common goal.

In August 2020 the World Health Assembly adopted the Global Strategy for cervical cancer elimination.

Now is the time to act to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health problem.

Achieving elimination
To eliminate cervical cancer, all countries must reach and maintain an incidence rate of below four per 100 000 women. Achieving that goal rests on three key pillars and their corresponding targets:

Vaccination: 90% of girls fully vaccinated with the HPV vaccine by the age of 15;
Screening: 70% of women screened using a high-performance test by the age of 35, and again by the age of 45;
Treatment: 90% of women with pre-cancer treated and 90% of women with invasive cancer managed.
Each country should meet the 90-70-90 targets by 2030 to get on the path to eliminate cervical cancer within the next century.

Why do you lie so much?

Top Masvingo Cop Labours To Stop Zanu PF Violence

By- Officer commanding Masvingo Province David Mahoya was Tuesday forced to descend on the venue of a Zanu PF PCC meeting at the Great Zimbabwe Univesity School of Education to stop escalating violence.

The Masvingo Provincial Co-ordinating Committee meeting chaired by a new chairman Robson Mavhenyengwa for the first time after Ezra Chadzamira was ousted just after Christmas had to be abandoned Monday as machete wielding thugs from Mashava caused havoc.

Efforts to get a comment from Mavhenyengwa were futile but The Mirror understands that the two factions, one led by Chadzamira and the other by Mavenyengwa were fighting to bring their delegates into the venue.
Chadzamira who is accused of using violence at the venue could not be reached for comment.
The meeting is supposed to elect and announce the new PCC executive following last December elections today. Each faction is fighting for a majority in the province’s most powerful structure.
Assistant Commissioner Mahoya using a large contingent of riot Police had to drag some party members out of the meeting.
Police had by 11am today removed kombis which brought machete wielding thugs into the venue.
Masvingo Police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa could also not comment on the matter.
Masvingo Urban Ward 10 councillor Sengerai Manyanga stormed out of the meeting alleging that the numbers do not constitute a quorum.

Masvingo Burns As Machete Weilding Chadzamira Supporters Attack Party Rivals

By-Former Zanu Pf Masvingo provincial chairman, the area’s Minister of State Ezra Chadzamira, has allegedly hired thugs and disrupted his party’s Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting.

Masvingo Mirror reports that Chamira hired machete-wielding thugs who assaulted newly elected provincial committee members forcing the postponement of the meeting.

The meeting was scheduled to start at 11 am but failed to kick off because of violence and closure of the gate to the venue by the thugs who claimed that Mavhenyengwa was trying to rig the provincial executive election.

Police officers deployed at the PCC stood with arms akimbo as the thugs ran amok.

Chadzamira did not come to venue.
Incoming secretary for science and technology Tavara Mudukuti and John Chikomo had to seek medical attention after reporting the cases at Masvingo Central.
Zanu PF Masvingo Province chairperson Robson Mavhenyengwa confirmed the violence to The Mirror and said it was architected by Chadzamira’s brothers who coordinated the thugs.
The meeting had to be postponed because the thugs denied all provincial members entry into Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) school of education in the industrial area where the meeting was supposed to take place. Some elderly women sustained various degrees of injuries after they were pushed and shoved by the drunk thugs.
“It is true that machete wielding gangs from Mashava disrupted our PCC meeting. They attacked Tavara Mudukuti, John Chikomo and Kunaka. I am yet to do a follow up and check how they are doing and whether they have filed Police reports. The thugs are not party members and we do not know them.
“Three of Chadzamira’s brothers were leading the violence acts including Dennis,” said Mavhenyengwa.
Masvingo province Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa referred questions to national Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi who could not be immediately reached for a comment.
Chadzamira’s close allies including his younger brother Dennis who has a pending assault case, Ron Muvenga, Energy Mutodi, Korona Manyama and Chivi RDC chairman Godfrey Mukungunugwa most of whom were ousted from the provincial committee were seen hovering with the thugs by The Mirror.
Mudukuti was attacked at around 1 pm by Bizilias Mhisha who is a younger brother to Chadzamira’s driver Julius, as he tried to enter the venue. Sources close to the matter told The Mirror that Mudukuti filed a Police report.
The thugs who were sitting in a grey kombi with registration plates AEK 2352 near the gate into venue blocked every elected member aligned to Mavhenyengwa from entering the premises.

“The thugs began drinking in the morning and Police officers watched from a distance as the thugs harassed and blocked PCC members from entering the meeting venue, sources said.
Efforts to get a comment from Chadzamira were futile as his mobile phone rang unanswered.
The Mirror also witnessed the thugs pushing an elderly woman to the concrete pavement for saying they should let elected members into the venue. She suffered bruised elbows.
Sources also said that Police did not make any arrests at the instruction of Chadzamira who is also shielding his younger brother Dennis from being arrested after severely assaulting a political opponent in Zanu PF elections on December 28, 2021 at King Mine Hall in Mashava.
Dennis’ matter was reported to Masvingo CID Law and Order under CR 96/12/21 and Police is yet to arrest him and other involved suspects. Sources told The Mirror that Chadzamira barred the officers from arresting his brother.

Violence At Zanu PF Masvingo Meeting

By-There was violence Tuesday at an aborted Zanu PF Masvingo Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting after the party’s defeated provincial and the area’s Minister of State Ezra Chadzamira had allegedly hired thugs and disrupted a meeting.

Man Kills Wife For Refusing To Leave Beer Booze

By- A Bulawayo man killed his wife after she had refused to go home and wanted to continue drinking beer at a local bar.

The incident occurred on Saturday, and the suspect s since been arrested.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed.
“Police in Bulawayo arrested Stewart Munyapwa aged 32 in connection with a case of murder which occurred at a bushy area at Trenance Suburb on January 15, 2022. The suspect fatally assaulted the victim, Khethiwe Moyo aged 61 with open hands and a sjambok while on their way home from a local bar after a drinking binge.

Zupco Crashes Into Padestrains, Kills One

By-One person was killed while two others were injured after a Zupco bus in Bulawayo ploughed into a crowd at TM Hyper on Monday.

The state media reports that the accident occurred just outside the government Dental Clinic, along Herbert Chitepo Street, between 10th and 11th avenues at around 5PM.

Witnesses said, the driver was speeding and tried to avoid another bus before hitting a pole. He then ran over a bus conductor and two women; one dressed in the uniform of a local chain of supermarkets and a female security guard. The female security guard died on the spot.
She was allegedly in the company of, according to witnesses, her husband, who is apparently in the same trade.
He was said to have been standing next to her on the pavement when the bus ran over her.
When a Chronicle news crew arrived at the scene, paramedics were administering first aid to the injured, while manoeuvring around the blood-stained pavement.
A red blanket covered the body of the deceased. Scores of people gathered at the scene, with many baying for the bus driver’s blood. This was after police details had taken a statement from the security guard whose wife was reportedly lying dead on the road, and he started sobbing, as reality set in that his better half was no more.
It seemed that the driver slipped away in the commotion, as he was in the bus that had ploughed into the crowd.
“This isn’t the first time that Zupco has run over people in this area. There was an old man who was run over by a bus last month. Last time it was a woman at the flyover along Luveve Road and a police woman along Khami road. Something has to be done,” said Mrs Karen Dube.
Another person who refused to be named said it was high time Government’s relevant departments thoroughly inspected all Zupco buses for safety.
Last year, a traffic police officer was crushed to death by a Zupco bus in Bulawayo along Khami Road near the flyover where the cops were manning a roadblock. The bus dragged the female cop for about 30 metres, breaking her into pieces.

BREAKING: Chadcombe Robbery Case, ZACC Targets Police Officer

By A Correspondent | As the trial of the ZB Bank accused ‘gang’ some who were named in the shooting at former Detective Joseph Nemaisa’s home in December 2021, is underway, some of the loot from the ZB Bank robbery has gone missing from the strongroom, it has emerged.

Harare Magistrates Court

The Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission has discovered that of the USD100,000 found inside one of the lories purchased from loot money, USD70,000 has gone missing while in police hands.

A cop surnamed, Jachi has been accused of theft.

ZACC was on Wednesday caught up in the matter investigating what is happening, which comes days after one of the dead suspects in the Nemaisa house robbery (Charles Chirara) case received military 21 gun salute honour during burial in Hurungwe.

Chirara’s family who produce bullet evidence that contradicts ex cop Nemaisa, have continued to allege that their loved one was unfairly accused. They say that Nemaisa’s claim that he shot Charles Chirara at the chest is not credible because the post mortem says he was shot at the thigh.

They also say Nemaisa’s account to the ZBC that he exchanged fire with the accused before gunning down 3 of them at his house in December, is inconsistent with his other interview with ZimEye where he said he outsmarted the gang and aimed at them unawares because it was totally dark outside, giving him perfect view of the inside of the house.

Nemaisa says the stribog-firearm he used to kill the 3 accused belongs to the gold oligarch ‘Scott’ Pedzisai Sakupwanya.

The trial continues at the Harare Magistrates Court. – MORE TO FOLLOW

Hopewell Chin’ono Reveals 2022 Voters Roll Has Dropped by 63,131 People

Award winning Investigative journalist, Hopewell Chin’ono has revealed that the 2022 voters roll has dropped by 63,131 voters.

Writing on his Facebook page Tuesday morning, Chin’ono youths are sabotaging themselves. He said, “the 2022 total registered voters is LOWER than the 2018 total registered voters by 63,131 voters.

This is despite the fact that between 2018 and 2022, more than 1 MILLION young people turned 18 years old.

Youths, we are sabotaging ourselves.” PACHEDU

I want to tell Zimbabweans the hard truth.
If the youth don’t register to vote, their suffering will get worse for another 5 years up to 2028.

If the MDC Alliance does not lead a coherent voter registration campaign, Nelson Chamisa will not go to State House.

If you listen to idiots who tell you that voting doesn’t matter, you will suffer alone when your medical bills require payment after 2023 when ZANUPF retains power because you chose not to vote.

Ngaapinde Hake Mukoma means nothing if you don’t register to vote, it will just be another empty slogan.

Those are the facts! “

Rape Accused ‘Prophet’ On The Run

Self proclaimed Prophet, Samuel Guta of Power of Unity in Christ Church, who is on trial for rape, is believed to be on the run.

Judgment in the case was set to be handed down last week. However, the accused did not turn up for the court proceedings.

Guta had been remanded to appear in court on January 7, by the magistrate Gloria Takundwa.

But, he didn’t turn up, prompting her to issue a warrant of arrest.

Guta is accused of raping a 22-year-old congregant during a prayer and cleansing session.
The self-styled prophet denied the allegations.

He claimed she had been in the habit of luring him to bed and would complain that her husband was no longer satisfying her desires.

The State, led by Cecilia Mashingaidze, said on January 7, 2021, Guta allegedly called the woman for a cleansing ceremony at a certain mountain, between Riverside and Churu farms, near Harare.

It is alleged he told the woman to bring three lemons to the mountain so that he could also pray for her three-year-old child.

The court heard that the woman went to the mountain with her child.

Guta allegedly told her to return the child home since they were likely to delve into ‘sensitive matters’ with her.

It is alleged the woman complied and returned her baby. It later started raining and Guta invited the woman into a tent.

The woman is said to have initially refused but Guta threatened not to help her unless she got into the tent.

Guta allegedly took a lemon, prayed and gave the woman a piece to eat while he ate the other piece.

The court heard that Guta asked the woman to rub a piece of lemon under her feet and chest.

The woman is said to have suddenly lost consciousness only to wake up to find herself without her undergarments.

Guta allegedly told the woman that evil spirits had removed her clothes upon manifestation.

He allegedly prayed for the woman again and she fell unconscious, for the second time, after which she woke up to find him raping her.

The accused prayed for the complainant for the third time, and she again lost consciousness and woke up lying face down, without clothes.

She asked the accused what had happened and Guta told her that an evil spirit had come out of her.

He claimed she had removed her clothes while she was manifesting. The woman informed her aunt who reported the matter to the police.

ZIMRA Transfers Over 300 Corrupt Staff

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra)’s new manager at Beitbridge Border Post, Kenneth Mungati, has reportedly ordered the transfer of over 300 staff members from the border town after accusing them of corruption.

Mungati took over from Innocent Chikuni, who was transferred to Harare last year.

Sources told a local publication that Mungati had refused to work with the staff at Beitbridge accusing them of being corrupt.

NewsDay gathered that the first batch of targeted officials left on December 31, 2021 for their new workstations.

Others are expected to have left by the end of next month with their replacements arriving in corresponding batches.

“All the affected officers have been given letters of transfer and informed of their new destinations. The transfers were almost indiscriminate and some, who had just arrived at Beitbridge, had spent less than six months,” an affected Zimra official told NewsDay.

“The new manager refused to work with us because he alleged that we were corrupt. He was here recently as the assistant regional manager to Chikuni,” said a disgruntled junior officer.

Ironically, most of the officers coming to replace those leaving Beitbridge were here and they also unceremoniously left in 2016 when Mungati allegedly refused to work with them because they were also “corrupt”.

Each officer leaving Beitbridge is entitled to slightly more than a month’s salary as “disturbance” allowance to cushion them during the relocation exercise.

The salaries for customs and excise officers range from $70 000 to $80 000.

This means that government has to fork out around $48 million to fund the transfers.

Zimra spokesperson Gladman Njanji said all transfers were above board.

“The authority has been meeting its set target over the years due to the commitment and dedication of our staff, as well as an effective system of collecting revenue and facilitating trade and travel. The authority has the prerogative to make a business decision that may result in movement of staff anytime,” he said, adding that the revenue collector conducted staff transfers each year whenever it sees it fit to do so.

“Every year, the authority sets aside funds to meet the cost of the members of staff who will be transferring or rotating from one station to another in keeping up with the relevant policies, procedures, business decisions and as part of best practice of revenue administration.”

Njanji said at no time were the transferred officers labelled “corrupt”, adding that the authority had procedures to eliminate corruption.-newsday

Police Brutality Victims Acquitted

By A Correspondent| Kwekwe Magistrate Samukelisiwe Gumbo has discharged and acquitted two victims of police brutality who had been on trial for allegedly defeating or obstructing the course of justice.

The two Deon Jane Craig and Menard Moyo, who are residents of Gweru and Kwekwe, were assaulted by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers stationed at Mbizo Police Station in Kwekwe, when they were arrested on 8 January 2021 for allegedly harbouring a suspected thief and charged with defeating or obstructing the course of justice as defined in Section 184(1)(g) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

During trial which commenced in October 2021, prosecutor Kudakwashe Mazorodze claimed that the duo threw stones at some police officers who intended to arrest Maxwell Moyo thereby disturbed them from effecting an arrest on him.

Craig told Magistrate Gumbo that he was shot on her left leg and foot and was hospitalised at Kwekwe General Hospital, where she received specialist treatment while Menard stated that he was assaulted with open hands and fists all over his body and also had to be treated in hospital.

On Wednesday 12 January 2022, Magistrate Gumbo set the duo free at the close of the prosecution case after ruling that the testimonies of the three State witnesses showed that there was no evidence tendered during trial linking Craig and Moyo to the alleged commission of the offence.

Craig and Moyo were represented by Nosimilo Chanayiwa and Jabulani Mhlanga of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights.

Villagers Breathe Fire Over Land Sale

By A Correspondent- Some village heads in Goromonzi reportedly sold a piece of land valued at US$45K for just US$15K to a local businessman attracting the wrath of local residents who have vowed to block the move.

Masimba Manyanya, coordinator of Simukai Residents Trust said the land was allocated to the community in the 1980s. Manyanya said:Three villages namely Yafela, Gwaze and Muchatota were allocated a piece of land by the government.

It was to be administered by the Village Development Committee (VIDECO).

So for over 40 years this land was all grass.

However, because of encroaching urbanization the place has become a possible commercial centre because of its proximity to the road.

Recently some village heads sold the land to a local businessman triggering a huge stand-off with the community.

This past month, our village headmen and their proxies allegedly sold the land which has a commercial value of US$45 000 to a local businessman who is reported to have acquired it for a paltry US$15 000.

The businessman wants to put a supermarket at the place from the information we gathered.

The SRT Coordinator revealed that there was a physical confrontation at the site with residents vowing to stop construction.

He said he personally chased some of the workers at the site with sticks.

Manyanya added that the local councillor has intervened to calm the situation but the tensions are high warning that violence can break out any time.

While the matter is said to have been reported to the anti-corruption body, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Corruption (ZACC) the commission’s spokesperson John Makamure said he is yet to receive the report.-open council

Byo City Road Rehabilitation Budget Requires Almost US$1 Billion

Bulawayo City Council needs US$700 million to rehabilitate roads around the city which are now in a deplorable state, the local authority disclosed Monday.

In a statement BCC Corporate Communications Manager, Nesisa Mpofu, said the city’s overall road network is approximately 2 400km with 75% of its network in poor condition requiring urgent rehabilitation works.

“Approximately US$700 million is required to bring the network to good condition, and to a relatively modest road system. To increase roads in good condition by 15% (360km) in the next 5 years, a minimum level of investment of US$15 million per annum is required,” said Mpofu.

“Traditionally, government allocations through the Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (ZINARA) and revenue accruing to Council have been the primary sources of funding for road infrastructure. Year on year, budget allocations have compared unfavourably with funding considered inadequate to maintain road network. As a result, the road network has continued to deteriorate due to the gap between maintenance requirements and funding.”

Mpofu acknowledged that following the rains, the state of the roads has further deteriorated, a development that has made it difficult for motorists to move from one point to another.

“The City of Bulawayo notes that most of its roads are in a poor state, following the rains which have been received and also due to the fact that most of the city’s roads have outlived their economic life,” she said.

“The state of the city’s road network has been declining due to a large and growing backlog of deferred maintenance programmes which is attributed to lack of funding for decades. Road infrastructure shortcomings have resulted in increased travel time, rampant potholes, leading to a decline in road safety and high vehicle operating costs.”

She highlighted that the city’s road implementation strategy for the year 2022 is to focus on existing road network and do minimum to address safety concerns, preserve those roads in fair condition and keep city’s roads trafficable.

“The Emergency Roads Rehabilitation Programme and Devolution funding will be used to implement this strategy, which will include premix overlay works covering approximately 18km length of road, reseal works covering approximately 20km length of road, reconstruction covering approximately 13km length of road, and  upgrading of street lights and traffic signs on improved roads,” Mpofu said.

“The city has focused its maintenance programmes in recent years on public transport routes, arterials, and collector roads, roads leading to institutions and the Central Business District, while the majority of the network especially the local streets cannot be attended to due to financial constraints and continue to deteriorate.”

Mpofu said owing to recent rains, all road maintenance works have been halted due to wet ground with the exception of minor storm water drainage works and will resume once the rains subside.

Two Zimbabweans Who Escaped From S.A Prison Nabbed

By A Correspondent- Four Zimbabwean prisoners being transported to a South African court escaped after armed men ambushed a police van and sprung them free on Friday.

Augustine Nqobani Moyo, Nkululeko Nkomo, Mbongiseni Mkandla, Thulani Dube and South African national Robert Hlatshwayo were due to appear in court on charges of armed robbery, attempted murder and possession of an unlicenced firearm.

South African police said Hlatshwayo and Nkomo were re-arrested on Friday night, and the search continued for the three other escapees.

The prisoners were being transported to Vosloorus Magistrate’s Court on Friday morning, when a silver Audi allegedly cut off the police van at the corner of Barry Marais Road and Rondebult Road in Brakpan.

Three armed suspects exited the Audi and allegedly released the awaiting trial prisoners before fleeing the scene.

The police were outnumbered. It was two vehicles that were involved in this incident. One blocked the police vehicle from the front and a number of armed suspects, with rifles, then indicated to the police officers that they must stop the vehicle,” Muridili said.

The men were arrested in connection with a robbery at a business in Dawn Park, police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili said.

Gauteng police commissioner Lieutenant-General Elias Mawela commended the swift apprehension of the two fugitives.

“We thank the public for all the tip-offs that the police have been receiving on the whereabouts of the fugitives. The public is our eyes and ears in the communities and plays a vital role in the fight against crime,” said Mawela.

He added the tip-offs were all assessed and followed up to ensure the police “do not leave any stone unturned in the quest to bring all the escapees back to prison”.

Ken Sharpe’s Airport Road Construction Deal Riddled With Irregularities, Says Harare Legislator

By A Correspondent| Harare North legislator Norman Markham has poked holes into a controversial agreement between City of Harare and a controversial land developer Kenneth Raydon Sharpe for the construction of Airport road.

Sharpe was later given vast tracts of land as payment for the construction of Airport despite completing only a kilometre out of the targeted 10.

According to an answering affidavit filed by Markham in response to an ongoing High Court challenge against the transfer of City of Harare land to Sharpe, he said the agreement was entered by a caretaker council which ordinarily does not have authority to execute contracts on behalf of the municipality.

A resolution to enter into an agreement with Sharpe’s Augur Investments which Markham exposed as a shelf company was done by a caretaker commission adding that at no time did duly elected councillors approve terms of the Agreement.

“The agreement between the City of Harare and Augur Investments OU concluded in May 2008, was entered into by a body that had no authority to carry out and execute contracts on behalf of a lawfully executed Council. The fact that Minister Chombo appointed a Commission so soon after the 2008 election when councillors where in existence, is an indictment and an unanswerable hurdle against the agreement. It is illegal and void ab initio,” said Markham.

He also demanded that Augur Investments produce its own Resolution to enter into an Agreement with City of Harare.

He also questioned City of Harare’s decision to proceed with the agreements without going to tender which is against the Procurement Act of Zimbabwe.

Markham dismissed Augur Investments claims that everything was above board insisting that it was incontestable that City of Harare transferred huge amounts of land to Sharpe through his numerous satellite companies without following the Urban Councils Act.

He said Augur Investments was a shelf company with different locations and domicile from different countries in Europe to Mauritius and to Zimbabwe.

“On the other hand, it has operated principality through Aleshina Tatiana, Kenneth Raydon Sharpe and Michael John Van Blerk. These are the principals,” said Markham.

Mwonzora Says: Supreme Court Deleted Nelson Chamisa’s Career, So Any Name He’ll Create Is Mine | HOW FAR WILL DOUGIE GO?

“We Do Not Adjudicate Political Parties’ Names”: ZEC

By A Correspondent- ZEC chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba on Monday shed light on the expected confusion when the nomination court sits on January 26. She told ZimLive:

ZEC does not adjudicate who has the right to the name of a political party because there is no legal framework that mandates the commission to regulate, deregulate and register political parties.

On January 26 the nomination court will operate on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. ZEC will not respond to letters for clout from political parties over party names.

If politicians want to stop a political party from using a party name or symbol, they must approach the electoral court which determines political parties.

MDC Alliance spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere on Monday maintained that their party would remain MDC Alliance, at least for now, as pressure mounts from supporters for Chamisa to rebrand. she told ZimLive:

We remain MDC Alliance until otherwise advised. We have safeguards in place to ensure there is no confusion come election day. The people know who their leaders are.

Chigumba said politicians were in the habit of blaming ZEC over political name disputes when the commission does not register political parties but only recognises them as prescribed by the electoral law.

Elections will take place in 28 parliamentary races and 105 municipal seats on March 26.

Most of the seats fell vacant when the MDC-T recalled elected MDC Alliance officials, armed with a March 2020 Supreme Court ruling which nullified Chamisa’s elevation to lead the MDC-T following the death of Morgan Tsvangirai a year earlier.

Mnangagwa Fires Another Party Boss Over Election Rigging

By A Correspondent – Zanu PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa has fired another party director over internal party election rigging.

Mnangagwa fired the head of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Mr Munyaradzi Katsande; a few days he did so to the suspended party’s director for administration Dickson Dzora.

Katsande was fired for tampering with registers for the voters in the recently held provincial elections.

Zanu PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Christopher Mutsvangwa, confirmed the development at a press conference held at the party headquarters in Harare yesterday afternoon, saying that there was a major shake-up at the party headquarters.

“We have our director general Cde Dickson Dzora, he is on suspension. He was suspended on the instruction and directive of President ED Mnangagwa. He has been unhappy about many wayward activities, which have been going on at the party. But the last straw was the gross incompetence and perhaps they were connived by Dickson Dzora and his team to run the last elections and just generate chaos all over the 10 provinces. That was really enough for the President,” said Mutsvangwa.
During the just-ended provincial elections, there were reports of delays in the disbursement of ballot papers at most voting centres across the country
“There was also an investigation which was carried out by the party’s security department on the abuse of tender procedures to favour ghost companies, which may have been related to him. So he has gone. He is under suspension. It has been confirmed this morning (yesterday) by Cde Obert Mpofu who is the Secretary General of the party,” said Mutsvangwa.
On the expulsion of Cde Katsande, Ambassador Mutsvangwa said he was found tempering with the provincial registers for voters.

“President Mnangagwa himself fired another official in the ICT department, Cde Katsande. He was fired because he was found tampering with registers for the voters for the past provincial elections in the party”.
Mutsvangwa said, Mnangagwa was determined to run a clean show at the party headquarters so that the membership can be confident on the administration of all the affairs of the party including the all-important elections.
“You can now all see that we take our elections seriously. We want them to be clean as can be. It doesn’t matter that you are a big fish, if you fall foul, President Mnangagwa will move against you. He is not the only one. It has happened at the Government level. Somebody else has just left his job in the Cabinet. So the signal is out there,” said Mutsvangwa.

Arrested MDC Alliance Masvingo Members To Appear In Court Today

Arrested Masvingo MDC Alliance members to appear in court today.

18 January 2021

Wezhira Munya

Yesterday, Masvingo Criminal Investigation Department police officers arrested ward 4 member Mr Alec Tabe, ward 4 coordinator and Masvingo youth provincial member Ms Alaika Time.

Tabe and Nerupandai slept in police cells and will appear in Masvingo Magistrate court today at 9am.

Advocate Martin Mureri said, “Yes, l can confirm that Tabe and Nerupandai were arrested yesterday and slept in the cells at Masvingo Central police station. They will appear in court today at 9am.”

The police are accusing Tabe and Nerupandai for organizing ward 4 MDC Alliance meeting violating COVID-19 regulations.

It seems MDC Alliance led by President Chamisa is a banned organisation.

MDC Alliance members are subjected to ill-treatment from police. Interestingly, Tabe and Nerupandai have been arrested after Mnangagwa proclaimed 26th March 2022 as day for by elections. MDC Alliance members are not allowed to campaign.

Contrary, Zanu PF had violent provincial meeting yesterday at Great Zimbabwe University Education Campus in industrial site. No Zanu PF member was arrested , as Chadzamira and Mavhenyengwa faction fight each other yesterday.

On saturday last week, MDC T in Masvingo held their meeting to select candidates and no one was arrested.

MDC T led by Mwonzora and Zanu PF are being treated with kind gloves by police.

Tabe is represented by advocate Mafa and Nerupandai is represented by advocate Martin Mureri.

Mliswa To Meet Chamisa After Weekend Kasukuwere SA Encounter

By A Correspondent- Norton member of parliament (independent) Temba Mlisawa said he was planning to meet with the MDC-Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa.

Mliswa said this to NewDay when the private daily asked him why he was with the former Zanu PF political commissar Savior Kasukuwere.

Mliswa’s pictures with Kasukuwere and expelled former Zanu PF MP for Chivi South, Killer Zivhu went viral on social media at the weekend.

Mliswa said there was nothing wrong with his meeting with Kasukuwere and Zivhu. He said:

People are coming up with all sorts of conspiracies just because we were together.

I was expelled from Zanu PF by a faction involving Kasukuwere — and if anything, I should not be with him, but there is more to life than politics.

We were not plotting anything, and I will continue meeting whoever I need to. Soon I will post pictures with Chamisa too; he is my sekuru (uncle) just like Kasukuwere or Jonathan Moyo (former Higher Education minister).

The intricate web of totems links us. Now, should I shun that because of politics? No.

Mliswa and Zivhu are both Zanu PF critics but claim they are fully behind Mnangagwa’s “vision”. Added Mliswa:

As for Zanu PF, as a party, it’s clear that it has lost itself and in its current state, it is a rogue entity that is going against the principles of the liberation struggle.

It has been hijacked by a lot of mafikizolos who have no DNA of the party. The Zanu PF I belonged to stuck to the founding principles of the struggle.

Thus on the basis of those principles I have never been out of Zanu PF. The current power holders in the party have kicked out people with the real DNA of Zanu PF.

Killer Zivhu Tears Into Norton Perennial Loser Mutsvangwa

By A Correspondent- Fire former Zanu PF MP for Chivi South, Killer Zivhu has likened Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa to a public toilet and a bus terminus.

Zivhu was responding to a press statement issued by Mutsvangwa after his (Zivhu) meeting with former Zanu Pf political commissar Savior Kasukuwere and Norton MP Temba Mliswa in South Africa.

The images of the trio meeting went viral on social media and shook Zanu PF resulting in Mutsvangwa issuing a two-page lengthy and verbose press statement attacking the three.

Zivhu, Mliswa and Kasukuwere were are all expelled Zanu PF cadres.

Responding to Mutsvangwa’s statement, Zivhu had no kind words for former Zimbabwe’s envoy to China.

“Chris Mutsvangwa tinyarewo hauna kana munhu anokuda iwe, you can’t win an election saka dzungu ndereyi, you are more dangerous to ED than Kasukuwere , hautengeseki kuvanhu se nyama yechidembo , just shut up, Chirungu haasi mavhotsi vanhu vanokusema iwe kunge toilet mu Norton,” said Zivhu.

Chitungwiza Municipality Destroys Vending Stalls

By- Chitungwiza Municipality has started demolishing what it called illegal vending stalls across the town.

The municipality said they are doing this to clean up Harare Metropolitan province.

The local authority is accusing MDC-led councils, whose officials have over the years, for what it said was turning a blind eye on the mess.

Municipal police were at the weekend leading the demolitions while armed Zimbabwe Republic Police officers were on standby in case of violent clashes.
The demolished structures were in Makoni Shopping Centre, Zengeza 2 along Hombarume Road, Unit L and C-Junction.
While some had heeded a council ultimatum issued last Friday and removed their wares and illegal structures, others remained defiant and lost valuables.
At Makoni Shopping Centre, among the demolished structures was a container situated opposite Chicken Inn which had been divided into shops.
A few metres from the container, some traders whose structures were demolished, could be seen removing valuables such as metal sheets for reuse.
Chitungwiza acting town clerk Mrs Evangelista Machona at the weekend said the demolitions were targeting all illegal structures especially along road servitudes. Herald

Rape Accused Prophet Skips Bail

By- Self proclaimed Prophet, Samuel Guta of Power of Unity in Christ Church, who is on trial for rape, is believed to be on the run.

Teenager Runs Over Minor After Stealing Car Keys

By A Correspondent- A Bulawayo teenager is in trouble after he stole car keys belonging to a visitor at his residence and drove the vehicle before running over a juvenile while trying to reverse.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the matter to NewsDay last Thursday.

“On January 12, a 16 year old boy was reversing a vehicle with Botswana registration numbers belonging to a male adult who had come to visit some of the people staying at his house in Entumbane. Mahere Blasts Mwonzora

Tinashe Sambiri| MDC Alliance spokesperson Advocate Fadzayi Mahere has blasted Mr Douglas Mwonzora for attempting to confuse the electorate by peddling falsehoods.

Mahere also described Mwonzora as a man with a “chameleon character.”

Mwonzora is shifting goalposts to please his handlers, according to political analysts.

  1. You said the MDCA was a party before the 2018 election
  2. After your 2020 judgment, you said the MDCA no longer existed cause the Alliance agreement had lapsed
  3. You recalled MPs for belonging to the MDCA
  4. Now you claim to be the MDCA!

Why do you lie so much?

Mwonzora responded :
“This God you talk about is not for you and your colleagues alone Fadzie. He is my God too. Fortunately He is a just God.”

Cervical Cancer Elimination

Vaccination: 90% of girls fully vaccinated with the HPV vaccine by the age of 15;
Screening: 70% of women screened using a high-performance test by the age of 35, and again by the age of 45;
Treatment: 90% of women with pre-cancer treated and 90% of women with invasive cancer managed.
Each country should meet the 90-70-90 targets by 2030 to get on the path to eliminate cervical cancer within the next century.

The Short Cat Statement On Warriors Catastrophe

By Japhet “Short Cat” Mparutsa

We lost to Malawi and the focus will be on the coach. But can we look beyond the coach and do a root and branch analysis.

Our football has been going down for a while. Qualifying for Afcon has covered over the cracks. However the cracks are there to see and soon it will be the whole building collapsing.

I was lucky enough to play in a star studded junior team soon after independence in 1980.We had Ephraim Dzimbiri, James Takavada, David Zulu, Joel Shambo, Stanley Ndunduma, David Mwanza, John Phiri,Edward Katsvere among others. Guess what? All these players were in the team which won the Cecefa Cup in 1985.

In 1982,i won the Soccer Star of the Year award I was only 19. Stanley Ndunduma also won the award when he was only 20.

How was it possible that we had a glut of so many good young players in most clubs and who also played for the National Team? I became Zimbabwe number 1 keeper at 19.Why do we not have exciting young talent emerging from our league.?

The answer lies with the junior structures. We need a development plan to ensure we revive the age groups such as the Under 17,20 and under 23. We need full time coaches who work with the junior teams under the supervision of the National Coach. The coaches should have enough time to visit teams and conduct coaching clinics. They should cover every corner of Zimbabwe.

Schools should also take Sports and Football in particular seriously. All the benefactors who offer houses and money to the Warriors should start with the Junior structures.Let this money go to the kids.

How do you build a house without a Foundation? The Foundation are the schools, the junior teams and the Academies. These should be monitored to ensure that the proper football curriculum is being followed.

The Football Leadership should made up of people who care about football. People who want to see football development. There are many such leaders, we just need to give them a chance.

What we used to do in the past allowed a lot of young players to emerge. It made teams like Dynamos, Highlanders and Caps United very strong and with that the league was very competitive . A strong league will feed into the National Team and we will compete again.

The Diaspora constituency must strengthen the development trajectory. Here we need unity of purpose among the stakeholders. The young players who are 17,18 or 20 should come through the junior teams. This is why we need the junior structures to be vibrant. Once we have these up and running, it will be easy to utilise our best talents.

With the Warriors, there is always hope which is quickly replaced by disappointment. But it is not too difficult to do the right thing.

Let us revive those dead structures. Let us have a deliberate strategy. At the moment we have no strategy and hence we cannot expect miracles.

We can do it and I for one am ready to help.
Let’s Build!!
Be Blessed.

Kasukuwere Denies Plotting Mnangagwa’s Ouster

By A Correspondent- Exiled former Zanu PF political commissar Savior Kasukuwere said he had no links with Zanu PF youth Sybeth Musengezi, who is challenging the legitimacy of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Musengezi has instituted legal proceedings against the ruling party over processes that led to Mnangagwa’s rise to power in 2017.

Speaking to NewsDay on Sunday, Kasukuwere dismissed the allegations as “childish ramblings and conspiracy theories”.

NewsDay was interviewing him on his meeting with

outspoken former Chivi South MP Killer Zivhu and Norton MP Temba Mliswa (Independent) met in South Africa last week.

Kasukuwere, Zivhu and Mliswa were pictured together, raising speculation in Zanu PF that the trio could be plotting a comeback.

Kasukuwere, a former cabinet minister during the Robert Mugabe era, is in exile in South Africa along with other G40 members.

Police Round Up Motorists, Arrest 2 230

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has announced that they have arrested over 2 238 drivers of unregistered, plate-less and unlicensed vehicles during the ongoing nationwide operation.

The police said they arrested were meant to get rid of criminal elements and make all motorists comply with registration, insurance and licensing laws.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi announced the arrests.
“On January 16, 2022, 1 271 arrests were recorded on an operation targeting unlicensed, uninsured, unregistered motor vehicles. The cumulative number of arrests stands at 2238,” he said.

The arrests come after the Zimbabwe Republic Police recently warned motorists driving unregistered vehicles that they have embarked on an operation with effect from tomorrow targeting such cars.
The operation came after an increase in crime perpetrated by some motorists with unregistered cars.
According to police, there is no special exemption for anyone, including Government vehicles to move around without any registration number plates.
Police were also deeply concerned by the deliberate disregard of road traffic regulations by drivers of unregistered vehicles and those without number plates.

Unregistered and plate-less vehicles are also being used to commit crimes such as robberies, murder, kidnapping, rape and other heinous crimes.

By-The Government says the erection of Gukurahundi memorial plaques at the Bhalangwe mass graves site, Matabeleland South province, was an unlawful act.

The plaque, that was erected recently by pressure group, Ibetshu Likazulu, was bombed last week by suspected state security agents.

Speaking in an interview with CITE, Deputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet (Presidential Communications), George Charamba, said:

I think a criminal act was committed when an act was done out of the policy and the state was indifferent.

You don’t just in a sovereign country with a competent government just go and erect a monument in a community without involving the state. Where is that done? We are not a lawless society.

You don’t cherry-pick chiefs of the like mind of the activists and say you have chiefs on your side. It doesn’t work like that and we are talking tough on that one.

Charamba said the Government has nothing to do with the destruction of the plaques and will not get involved in the matter. He said:

Let that be very clear, they should never (erect plaques). It’s unlawful. So if anything becomes of that unlawful deed, it can’t be a problem of the state to explain on what basis, it’s an unlawful deed.

You take a risk which is an unlawful step, you live with the consequences and deal with those whatever becomes of it, it’s their business isn’t they feel strongly about it outside state parameters.

We are working on fixing wounds from early independence and if you listened to the President’s statement on the Unity Accord commemorations, we said the negative forces trying to sort of reactivating the spotlight on the conflict must be kept at bay and we meant it.

You can’t expect the police to police illegality or to account for it when it gets demolished, on what basis?

From your little hovel, you stand up to say you are going to raise a monument, as who?

Why don’t you win elections and establish your own government where you can do that?

You put your squatter camp along Umguza River and it’s raised to the ground by your girlfriend or boyfriend, you expect the police to be on standby to protect you?

There has been concern over theft and vandalism of Gukurahundi memorial plaques.

The plaques were erected in memory of thousands of people killed by the North Korean trained Fifth Brigade in the Midlands and Matebeleland provinces between 1982 and 1987.

Zivhu Likens Mutsvangwa To A Disused Public Toilet

By A Correspondent- Fired former Zanu PF MP for Chivi South, Killer Zivhu has likened Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa to a disused bus terminus public toilet.

Zivhu was responding to a press statement issued by Mutsvangwa after his (Zivhu) meeting with former Zanu PF political commissar Savior Kasukuwere and Norton MP Temba Mliswa in South Africa at the weekend.

The images of the trio went viral on social media and shook Zanu PF resulting in Mutsvangwa issuing a two-page lengthy and verbose press statement attacking the three.

Zivhu, Mliswa and Kasukuwere are all expelled Zanu PF cadres.

Owen Ncube In Another Political Misfortune

By- Fired CIO minister Owen “Mudha” Ncube’s has lost his self imposed Zanu PF Midlands provincial vice chairmanship.

Mudha lost his party’s top post barely a week after he was fired from the cabinet by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Ncube was, however, given a far less influential position of secretary for production and labour during a rescheduled provincial coordinating committee (PCC) held in Gweru at the weekend.

The PCC was rescheduled after violence unleashed by Ncube’s thugs the previous weekend ended the meeting prematurely.

A ZANU PF insider told NewZimbabwe.com that Ncube was given the position as a mere consolation. He said:

He was given the position of provincial secretary for production and labour as a mere consolation but politically he is finished.

At the previous meeting, Ncube had smuggled a controversial list that was supposed to make the provincial executive. It was however rejected by ZANU PF structures in Midlands.

The controversial list, which was packed with Ncube’s loyalists, included former Mbizo Legislator Vongai Mupereri as secretary for administration, Shurugwi South MP, Edmund Mkaratigwa as finance Secretary, among others.

Instead, former ZANU PF youth league deputy secretary Edward Chakanyuka Chiherenge will deputise provincial chairperson Larry Mavima, who was imposed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Mkaratigwa is now the secretary for administration, Chirumhanzu MP Barbara Rwodzi becomes secretary for finance, Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Paul Mavima is the new secretary for legal affairs.

In his address to the new executive, Mavima called for unity and implored party officials to stop denigrating each other. He said:

My plea to you comrades as your chairman is that we unite and or at the least attempt to unite.

In retrospect, our differences are very minor as we all claim to be 100% behind HE E D Mnangagwa our current and future President in 2023 and one united Zanu PF party led by our current praesidium who have all clearly stated their support for Cde Dr E D Mnangagwa as the sole candidate for the 2023 General. elections.

Let us now put our personal differences aside and rally to win the Bye Elections and the 2023 General Elections. I as your chairman.

Inyathi Women “Raped” By Mysterious Snake

By- Villagers in Inyathi’s Village 5 claim a mysterious snake is “raping” women, inflicting weak erections on men and stealing their money.

B-Metro reports that the villagers said that they believe the snake belonged to a fellow villager who was using it to make money.

Said one of the villagers:

Our husbands work tirelessly to feed the families, but we don’t see the outcomes as whatever money they earn just disappears into air thin without being used and this seems to be happening in many homes because everyone is complaining of the same that is why we suspect that this is someone’s snake.

The snake was reportedly first seen in a sack on a mountain by a hunter who alerted the village head.

However, when the village head and villagers went to the mountain to see the snake, there was nothing in the sack except used pampers.

Self-styled exorcists, the Tsikamutandas, were invited by some villagers to cleanse the whole village and find the snake and its owner.

It is alleged that a whirlwind rose and moved about until it stopped at the homestead of a woman suspected to be the owner of the snake.

The woman, however, told B-Metro that other villagers were jealous of her family’s success and have attributed their prosperous lives to a non-existent snake. She said:

I also heard that there is a snake terrorising people but the allegations held against me that I am its owner are all lies, I don’t know anything about that and I have not seen any snake.

She said her neighbours are now afraid of her and wherever she goes, people point fingers at her and her children are being shunned and humiliated at school.

Villagers now want the Tsikamutandas to go door by door to cleanse and protect every homestead from the snake.

The Village Headman, Frank Hlalakuhle, ruled out the move saying it is not only expensive to hire the Tsikamutandas as every household would be required to contribute financially, but also illegal. Said the headman:

The villagers have been complaining about this snake for quite some time now.

The law does now allow us to search people’s homesteads even if we suspect that they own the snake.

However, the chief said whoever has fallen prey to this snake should hire tsikamutandas to cleanse their homes.

It is not within my powers to let the tsikamutandas go door by door.

Mliswa Plans To Meet Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri

Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ambassador to China on Saturday honoured President Nelson Chamisa’s MDC Alliance when he shared an announcement for an official function held by the abducted activist Netsai Marova and Chamisa’s Secretary for Policy Joana Mamombe.

The ambassador forwarded the message to a group of Zimbabweans set to be addressed by MDC Alliance MP Joana Mamombe and the MDC’s Secretary For Diaspora Affairs, Clifford Hlatshwayo.

The meeting was starting at 8pm on Sat and the ambassador only came back to distance himself after 10pm saying he had accidentally reposted the MDC Aliance Chamisa announcement.

The meeting had ended by that time, which was over 2 hours later.

Ambassador Chedondo claimed his post “was an accidental repost.”

He said he, “was scrolling the citizens posts when this happened.

“I will never be a messenger for the MDC.For the record I remain ZANU Pf and as Ambassador I serve all Zimbabweans.

“Once again I encourage all to desist using the platform as a vehicle for party political messages disguised as goodwill posts. “

“But the ambassador can’t say I made a mistake…because if you’re forwarding something, you would know your contacts, that is the group you are directing it to,” a source told ZimEye.

The meeting was an engagement for students in China.

Mauritania, Zim Crash Out Of AFCON Tournament

Three teams have, so far, qualified for the Afcon 2021 Round of 16 following the conclusion of Matchday 2 group games on Sunday.

Nigeria are the only team, so far, that have been confirmed as group winners after winning their first two games in Group D, while Morocco also secured a qualifying spot in Group C.

Zimbabwe and Mauritania, meanwhile, are the only teams that have been eliminated after Matchday 2.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

CAF Suspends Black Stars Striker

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed a three-match ban for Ghana striker Benjamin Tetteh at the Afcon 2021.

Tetteh was shown a straight red card after the 1-1 draw in Yaounde on Friday night after he was caught punching a Gabonese player.

A statement by CAF reads: On 13 January 2022, Gabon played Ghana at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde. Cameroon. The match officials indicated in their report that at the final whistle, Ghana player Benjamin Tetteh allegedly assaulted a Gabonese player.

CAF Disciplinary Board decided to:

To suspend player Ghana player Benjamin Tetteh for one additional game match in addition to his automatic suspension of two matches. Consequently, the player has been suspended for three matches.

The Disciplinary Board has also issued a stern warning to both teams for their unsportsmanship behaviour after referees’ full time whistle.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

El Hadji Diouf Bemoans Senagal Dismal Performance

Former Senegal star forward El Hadji Diouf has rubbished Sadio Mane’s claim that the Lions of Teranga are not playing well at AFCON 2021 due to the timing of matches.

Aliou Cisse’s charges have had a dismal campaign by their standards. They scrapped past Zimbabwe courtesy of a stoppage time penalty and played out a goalless draw with Guinea, who lead Group B.

Mane was asked by journalists after the stalemate with Guinea and insinuated they didn’t play well in their two matches so far because both were played at 14:00.

“It’s unfortunate to play twice in a row at 2 p.m., when teams haven’t played at that time, that they are shifting their matches. It’s not fair. The pitch is dry, not watered. We are not at all happy,” said the Liverpool star.

However, Diouf, who is with the team in Cameroon, has downplayed the effect of match timing saying it doesn’t affect performance in any way.

“A team like Senegal which aspires to win AFCON 2021 should in no way give excuses match schedules. Be it at 2 p.m. or 10 a.m. We must be match fit. We have to be ready to go for the win at any time,” Diouf said, when asked about Mane’s comments.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Martial, Rangnick Clash Over Aston Villa Tie

Anthony Martial has dismissed Ralf Rangnick’s claim that he refused to feature in Manchester United’s squad for Saturday’s EPL game against Aston Villa.

The French forward was not part of the selection that drew 2-2 at the Villa Park.

Explaining his absence, coach Rangnick said the 26-year-old did not want to travel to Birmingham as he pushes to leave before the January transfer window closes.

“Yes, he didn’t want to be in the squad,” Rangnick told reporters after the game.

“He would have been in the squad normally but he didn’t want to and that’s the reason why he was not travelling with us yesterday.”

But Martial has refuted the claim in an Instagram post: “I will never refuse to play a match for Man United,” Martial said on Instagram.

Biti Slams Mnangagwa Over Warriors Disastrous Performance

Tinashe Sambiri|The Warriors’ woeful performance at the AFCON Tournament in Cameroon emanates from Zanu PF bungling, MDC Alliance vice president Hon Tendai Biti has said.

The Warriors lost 0- 1 to Senegal and fell 1- 2 against the Flames Malawi.

Hon Biti said coach Norman Mapeza and his technical should not be blamed for the Warriors catastrophe- rather the Zanu PF regime led by Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa dented the team’s overall performance due to corruption and looting of resources.

Hon Biti said:

Norman Mapeza & his team need to be congratulated for effort . But truth is they stood no chance. Thanks to #ZANU bungling there has been no football for 2 years despite science & bubbles allowing sport to be played safely in COVID conditions.

Truth is regime does not care about sport or anything else. That stadia had been allowed to collapse & that Zim had no stadium allowed to hold an international match is an indictment .In

Mahere Exposes Mwonzora Lies

Mnangagwa Speaks On Zanu PF Bickering

President Mnangagwa on Saturday urged party leaders and supporters to uphold party values and reiterated his warning against use of coercion and chicanery as tools to attain political power.

Addressing members at the 359th Session of the Politburo, he indicated that the party is supreme and individuals sowing divisions will never be tolerated.

He also reminded people that no one can claim ownership of the party except the people.

“Acts of violence and political chicanery, sowing divisions will never be tolerated. The party remains supreme and we are a party that has a revolutionary legacy and let no one at any stage of our development seek to undermine or destroy this history.

“Zanu PF is a colossal party on the basis of its principles, values and norms. It is the people’s party and no one can claim ownership and sense of entitlement of the party,” he said.

The reminder comes after the dismissal from Government of former National Security Minister, Owen Ncube last Monday for “conduct that was deemed inappropriate for a Minister of Government”.

Ncube was fingered in the recent disturbances that rocked Zanu PF Midlands structures.

Zanu PF held successful provincial elections on December 28 with elected leaders advised to work for the people and implement the party’s development agenda.

President Mnangagwa also mandated the party’s political commissar to come up with strategies that ensure a resounding victory in the forthcoming elections.

In the first Politburo meeting of 2022 held two weeks ago, the President said the revolutionary party would decisively deal with rogue elements causing disharmony within its structures.

“Irregularities and political chicanery across party structures must be decisively dealt with and expunged from the party,’’ he warned then.

A violence-free environment has enabled Zimbabwe in the Second Republic to embark on major economic projects in the mining, energy, infrastructure and telecommunications sectors, among others.

On Thursday, the revolutionary party will hold primary elections to choose candidates representing the people in the forthcoming by-elections scheduled for March 26.

The by-elections were necessitated by parliamentary and council recalls within the opposition MDC-Alliance and some due to deaths of the representatives.

The President called on party members to ensure they had an increased political consciousness at all levels and emphasised that victory in the forthcoming by- elections will be a launchpad to winning the 2023 general harmonised elections.

“As leaders of the Politburo and Central Committee level, we must provide leadership by addressing lower structures, ensuring unity and that everyone is pulling in one direction which is aimed at accelerating the achievement of Vision 2030,” the President added.- The Herald

Learn More About Cervical Cancer Prevention

Vaccination: 90% of girls fully vaccinated with the HPV vaccine by the age of 15;
Screening: 70% of women screened using a high-performance test by the age of 35, and again by the age of 45;
Treatment: 90% of women with pre-cancer treated and 90% of women with invasive cancer managed.
Each country should meet the 90-70-90 targets by 2030 to get on the path to eliminate cervical cancer within the next century.
