Dudula Intensifies Xenophobic Threats

By- Operation Dudula at the weekend launched renewed xenophobic attacks on foreigners.

The xenophobic movement on Saturday marched to shops in Johannesburg, demanding foreigners leave.

Operation Dudula accuses immigrants, especially those who entered the country illegally, of taking their jobs and committing crimes like gang-raping, murder and armed robbery.
Speaking during the Johannesburg protest march one of the grouping’s leaders, Nhlanhla Lux, said all foreigners must return and fix their countries. Said Lux:
When I am looking here, it is all foreign nationals, they are occupying what we deserve in our country, we fought for this country, we fought for this freedom.
There are too many people who died here, we cannot allow you, people, to come into our country and treat our country in a mess.
This country is a country of love, and we are telling all foreign nationals that starting today you must go fix your countries. There is no war in your countries, why are you coming to our country?
You are criminals in our country, you are destroying our country, if you are not doing human trafficking, you are doing hijacking and you cannot do all of that in your own countries.
If your countries are saying Zimbabweans for Zimbabweans why not us South Africa for South Africans, we are saying Nigeria for Nigerians, Mozambique for Mozambicans.
The Zimbabwean government estimates that about 1.5 million Zimbabweans live in South Africa either legally or illegally but observers put the number at at least 3 million.
Last week, Limpopo Health MEC Phophi Ramathuba berated a Zimbabwean woman who was seeking medical treatment at a local hospital.

Details Of How Kenyan Election Results Rigged Emerge

By-It seems that IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati’s downfall is fast approaching as more evidence proving that IEBC systems were breached continues to surface, days after DCI released a forensic analysis report on electronic gadgets that three Venezuelans who were arrested at JKIA were in possession of.

Following the analysis, DCI recommended that the entire system of IEBC undergo an “urgent forensic audit to check for exploitative vulnerabilities.”

However, a forensic analysis by the East Africa Data Handlers on the six servers that IEBC used for transmission of election results indicates that a number of unauthorized personnel gained access to the IEBC system.

According to the data recovery solutions provider, there were several successful attempts to download form 34C, which Chebukati used to declare the results of the presidential elections.

Not only was the form downloaded but also edited multiple times so that the information it was bearing would correspond with that on forms 34B and 34A, which were also tampered with.

Forms 34A bear the final count of votes that each of the presidential candidates garnered in a polling station. 34B shows the results of each candidate in a constituency, while form 34C shows the number of votes each presidential candidate garnered across the country.

EADH further revealed that there was an interception of communication between the KIEMs kit and the presidential tallying center at Bomas of Kenya.

“It seems as though there was a middleware that was intercepting, receiving, and/or sending information between the Kiems kit or the county tallying servers and the presidential tallying server and verification of specific forms,” says the analysis.

EADH reveals that on  August 12, one of IEBC’s servers was accessed remotely using IP address 10.13.0.49 at 12.16pm.

“The connection was disconnected at 1:27pm and reconnected at 4:13pm, which was terminated almost immediately and then reconnected at 4:47pm,”

EADH noted that the8 communication was being intercepted by individuals who were not gazetted as IEBC election officials.

The log in details of the individuals were revealed as Dickson Kwanusu, Abdi Hadir Abdi, Harun Gathiru, Mohamud Mohamed and Isaiah Khuyole.

Kwanusu is said to have manipulated form 34C at 4,29 pm on August 14, a day before William Ruto was declared the president-elect.

“The investigation shows there were 27 attempts to generate Form 34C between August 12 athttps://chat.whatsapp.com/KD98PrFuuKc67LSs1aI7wMu 3:48pm and the time winner was declared on August 15. Ideally there should have only been one attempt to generate Form 34C after tallying of the votes in all polling centers and constituencies had been completed,” EADH report further revealed as reported by a local daily

Hadir, on the other hand, is said to have modified 659 forms 34A.

Chebukati had previously expressed confidence that IEBC systems were safe and could not be hacked.

Zanu PF Thugs Hunt Down CCC Murdered Activist Family Members

By- Zanu PF thugs in Kwekwe have forced into hiding the relatives of Mboneni Ncube, a CCC supporter whom they killed this year.

Ncube (35) was attacked with a spear and died on 27 February at Mbizo 4 shopping centre while CCC leader Nelson Chamisa was addressing a rally.

The chief witness, Brighton Nyirenda, was attacked on Sunday night last week.

The NewsHawks gathered that the suspects followed Nyirenda from Old Mbizo shopping centre and cornered him as he approached the gate to his house.

They indiscriminately assaulted him with logs all over his body.

Nyirenda confirmed the incident to The NewsHawks and said the suspects accused him of appearing in court on 18 August for their routine remand in the murder of Ncube after they warned him several times to drop from being a witness.

Judith Ncube, Mboneni’s sister, who lives in Kwekwe, said they have gone into hiding as they feel their safety is now at stake. She said:

It is not even fair. The suspects assaulted the witness (Brighton) and almost killed him so we have gone into hiding to save our own lives.

Nyirenda alleged that among the suspects who assaulted him was Albert Maketo Tembo and another one he only identified as Masparo. He said:

While they were beating me with logs, the suspects were saying why do you want to testify in the case and from where did you get the guts to go to court on 18 August.

I suffered severe injuries and went to Mbizo Police Station to report the case, that is where I got a letter to seek a medical report and get treated, but I have not done so because I do not have the money required by Kwekwe General Hospital. The murder suspects are yet to be arrested for my assault case.

Council for Peace and Justice Trust, a civil society organisation based in Kwekwe, said it was trying to help Ncube’s family as well as the chief witness.

The organisation’s director, Reverend Jackie Ngulube, said Nyirenda has been attacked twice for being a witness in Ncube’s murder. Said Ngulube:

It is a very touching issue and they feel very insecure and vulnerable at the moment. The witnessing guy is in bandages as we speak.

He has been attacked twice so far for being a witness in the matter.

Reports claim Happymore Chamba (40), a police officer who acted as an informant in the case has been transferred from Kwekwe as State machinery allegedly tries to help the accused persons who have strong links with Zanu PF.

The 16 suspects who were arrested in connection with Ncube’s murder were found hiding at Jessie Lodge in Mbizo.

The lodge is run by former State Security minister Owen “Mudha” Ncube.

Zanu PF Mocks ZEP Holders

By-Zanu PF legislators have mocked Zimbabweans in South Africa, telling them they were welcome back home in December.

Zanu PF Chief Whip, Pupurai Togarepi told them that Mnangagwa spearheaded many developmental projects to benefit everyone.

South Africa has said it will not renew holders of Zimbabwe Exemption Permits, expiring in December.

Togarepi and Nkayi South MP Stars Mathe are attending a Pan African Parliament committee in South Africa.

Togarepi told The Herald:

First things first. All Zimbabweans are welcome home anytime. They are free to come back to their country, where they are loved, where opportunities are there, and where they will live in peace. We cannot fight the laws of other countries, it’s good that our people are working here, earning incomes, and sending money back to their families. But if the laws of this land say Zimbabweans or foreigners should go back to their countries, we welcome them.
“There are programmes and opportunities by the Second Republic. The skills they got here can be very important for the efforts we are putting on the ground to develop Zimbabwe. So if any Zimbabweans in South Africa are told to leave, they should go home knowing they are welcome and leave happily for their motherland. We are looking forward to receiving them and giving them support.”

Tinashe Sambiri|The Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) wants SADC and AU to act on the deepening political crisis in Zimbabwe.

In a statement written on Monday, CCC cited escalating political violence and intimidation. The party urged both SADC and AU to resolve the political quagmire in Zimbabwe.

See CCC Namibia statement:

State-sponsored violence by the regime is a political formula to suspend elections in 2023.

27 August 2022

Progressive and patriotic citizens who champion social democracy in Namibia echo the same trajectory as the Change Champion in Chief President Advocate Nelson Chamisa on the infuriating issue of state-sponsored violence unleashed on social democrats. Cognizant of the evil intents to suspend the much-awaited harmonized elections after the change champions fight back against ZANU-PF thugs who are maiming, killing, and torturing citizens. ZANU-PF wants to declare a state of emergency before elections that is why they are provoking the majority of the citizenry.

Incessant political violence witnessed in Nyatsime, Seke, Uzumba, Wedza, Kwekwe, Masvingo, etc is an attempt to close the democratic space in the motherland. It is imperative to avert falling into the diabolic trap of the regime which is desperate to have Zimbabwe ungovernable.

As a peaceful party, we should not allow ZANU-PF to manipulate our peaceful approach to the national discourse. Defending ourselves is not violence but survival antics. What happened in Gokwe was a clear sign of panic and political ineptitude.

Operation Mango is an option for all the defenseless women, old men, and disabled who can’t run catch and mouse with the desperate ZANU-PF thugs who are used to kill innocent citizens for a bottle of Super Chibuku and mutotiro. These wayward youths must be liberated from these morons who are using state apparatus for the primitive accumulation of national resources. Citizens should put themselves on the safe side from state repression.

Citizens in Namibia support the operation since these sadists are torturing our members for putting on yellow. The best and most effective technique is to disguise the killers but knowing that the Citizens Coalition for Change is the only panacea to a New Great Zimbabwe.

The perpetual incarceration of Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala , Godfrey Sithole and the Nyatsime 14 is a direct attack on democratic values and constitutionalism since bail is a constitutional right enshrined in the constitution of 2013. Citizens should amplify their voices demanding the immediate release of the wrongfully imprisoned change champions. The culture of violence existed since the inception of the vibrant opposition in the new millennium.

SADC, AU, and the United Nations must come to our rescue. We deserve their sympathy. Citizens in Namibia are pleading with the party to hastily implement our PREPARE(Pre-Election Pact on Electoral Reforms) so that we can manage to handle ZANU-PF rigging shenanigans.

It is not true that change champions can’t fight back but the pursued ideology does not allow them to use violence as a tool to resolve political issues.

Citizens Coalition for Change Namibia condemns the arbitrary arrest of the change champion, a resident of Mutawatawa, Stephen Ndundu who was arrested on trumped-up charges. The charges were concocted after the change champion attended a well-subscribed rally held at Nhakiwa in Uzumba by the people’s president Nelson Chamisa.

Isheanesu is facing charges of having a firearm. The intention is to deter him from participating in the national discourse. He was detained at Mrewà police station before being transferred to Mutawatawa, this state repression should never be allowed. We demand his immediate release.

The political prisoner appeared before Mutawatawa Magistrates Court today and he was remanded in custody to Monday the 29th of August.

We are well informed that more are being hunted in Uzumba, Maramba and Pfungwe for belonging to the yellow train. We encourage the membership and the entire leadership to offer solidarity to the incarcerated change champions.

What Is Sexual Health

On World Sexual Health Day, WHO celebrates every person’s right to sexual wellbeing

How does the World Health Organization (WHO) define sexual health – and what do we bring to this annual, global celebration of sexual health, well-being and rights for all?

From the absence of disease to well-being: the continuum of sexual health

Sexual health is relevant throughout a person’s life, through to adolescence and into older age – not only during their reproductive years.

It is determined by the quality and safety of people’s relationships: with oneself and other individuals, with family and friends, and the society in which we live, including the gender norms that shape our experiences. These relationships are themselves dependent on whether everyone’s human rights related to their sexuality are realised and protected.

WHO’s working definition of sexual health emphasises a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, one that cannot be separated from sexual well-being:

“Sexual health is a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being related to sexuality; it is not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or infirmity.

Sexual health requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and violence. For sexual health to be attained and maintained, the sexual rights of all persons must be respected, protected and fulfilled.”

What is WHO doing to promote sexual health and well-being?

Enabling all people to achieve sexual health and well-being requires tailoring normative guidance and national programming to meet their specific needs and lived experience: welcoming and inclusive of people with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions, sexual characteristics, people living with HIV, and with disability.

“Sexual health is not a fixed state of being, and every person’s needs will change across the life course,” said Ian Askew, Director of the WHO Sexual and Reproductive Health and Research department, including the United Nations Special Research Programme HRP.

“This is why it is crucial for WHO, together with HRP, to undertake a range of activities across this continuum: from support of sexual well-being, to prevention and management of disease.”

WHO and HRP activities include:

education, counselling and care related to sexuality, sexual identity, and sexual relationships
addressing sexual function and psychosexual counselling
promoting positive sexual and psychosocial development
prevention and control of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV
prevention and management of cervical and other cancers of the reproductive system.
Sexual well-being can be conceptualised in various ways, including sexual respect, sexual pleasure, sexual self-esteem and self-determination in one’s sexual life.

Robust, transparent and comparable sexual health-related data are needed to ensure adequate services. WHO and HRP are coordinating a global research programme to better understand people’s sexual practices, behaviours and health outcomes and inform national programming to achieve sexual well-being. WHO and HRP are also exploring whether sexual and reproductive health interventions which incorporate sexual pleasure considerations improve relevant health outcomes.

What next for sexual health and well-being?

Interventions specifically intended to improve sexual well-being are gradually emerging.

A major milestone is the new edition of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) which has a chapter on sexual health for the first time. By providing the latest evidence-based definitions, WHO is facilitating the diagnosis and appropriate management for a wide variety of conditions related to sexual health. Countries will begin using this chapter from January 2022.

Comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) is a curriculum-based process of teaching and learning about the cognitive, emotional, physical and social aspects of sexuality. WHO recently collaborated with partners, including HRP, to develop guidance for out-of-school CSE programmes that are appropriate and safe for different groups of children and young people. This complements the guidance developed by the United Nations on school-based sexuality education. Both these guidance documents reiterated that sexual activity part of normal and healthy living, as is giving and receiving sexual pleasure.

Another recommendation is for policy-makers to integrate brief sexuality-related communication when possible, a clinical tool for behaviour change which takes a holistic and positive understanding of sexual health and sexuality.

Sadly, this is not everyone’s reality. Many women, girls and gender-diverse persons experience non-consensual and violent sexual activity. WHO and HRP are supporting national efforts around the world to prevent and manage the consequences of all forms of sexual violence.

To eliminate diseases that affect sexual health, WHO is developing new global strategies to address STIs, including HIV – while taking into account the current pandemic-induced health system disruptions.

Addressing challenges in sexual health and well-being

To eliminate diseases that affect sexual health, WHO is developing new global strategies to address sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV, while taking into account the current pandemic-induced health system disruptions.

Given the many evidence gaps for achieving universal access to STI/HIV services, WHO is currently prioritising a research agenda for improving the implementation of national STI programmes. This agenda will complement WHO’s leadership in developing innovative point of care tests (POTCs) for quicker and more accurate diagnostic testing, and in specifying the “Global STI Vaccine Roadmap” to guide research and development for new vaccines against STIs.

One particularly pernicious disease associated with sexual activity is cervical cancer. WHO has launched a global strategy to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer, and most recently issued a guideline for screening and treatment of cervical pre-cancer lesions, a key intervention for cancer prevention and control.

A central aspect of being human

Good sexual health is fundamental to the overall health and well-being of individuals, couples and families, and to the social and economic development of communities and countries.

While sexual health and rights and reproductive health and rights are closely linked, crucial aspects of sexual health can be overlooked when grouped under the domain of reproductive health. WHO is committed to identifying and promoting sexual health itself, so that everyone, everywhere is able to fulfil their human rights related to their sexuality and sexual well-being.

CCC Salutes Brave Gokwe Citizens

Tinashe Sambiri|Zanu PF won the Gokwe-Kabuyuni by-election through terror and massive manipulation of voters, according to CCC.

On Monday CCC deputy spokesperson Gift Ostallos Siziba commended citizens in Gokwe for showing determination and resilience in the wake of rampant intimidation.

Below is Siziba’s statement:

Thank you the brave and best of Gokwe-Kabuyuni

The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) family is humbled and inspired by the show of brave support for our candidate, Mr. Costin Muguti, in the recently held by-elections for the Gokwe-Kabuyuni constituency.

We are grateful for the 4 915 people of GOKWE KABUYUNI who,
against all odds, voted for our candidate, representing over 44% of the electorate.

It is encouraging as a party that we are closing the gap from the 2018 elections when the opposition then garnered 29% of the vote.

We had a good fight and for us this is a learning curve as we approach the watershed 2023 General Elections.

Gaining rural ground against nearly insurmountable odds shows that the message of change is gaining ground in rural communities. It is further proof that CCC is the real alternative and no amount of electoral chicanery will dampen the mood of change sweeping across the nation.

We got 4 915 votes in the midst of fear, thousands of assisted voters and abuse of traditional leaders by the dictatorship.

As a progressive party we must deal
decisively with the abuse of traditional leaders and the assisted voters provision by Zanu pf.

To this end electoral reforms remain the only solution to these electoral malpractices and we will mount a national, regional and international effort to push for all necessary reforms.

Zanu PF won on a margin of terror and a menu of manipulation consisting of violence, banning the alternative from campaigning, brazen vote buying and a captured ZEC.

The elections Commission long failed the nation and must be disbanded and in this election it failed to protect the integrity of the vote by allowing a range of malpractices to happen without any repercussions for Zanu PF. In any free, fair and credible contest the Zanu PF candidate should have disqualified for egregious infractions of the electoral law but the commission did nothing.

As we move foward, to counter the machinations of the dictatorship in our rural hinterland, Operation bull mango will take centre stage. Remain yellow at heart and green to the outsider.

Our pledge to the people of Zimbabwe is that change is here and come 2023 we must bring an end to the moribund dictatorship which has stolen our freedoms, prosperity, future and dignity as a people.

For and on behalf of the Citizens

Always

Comrade Ostallos

Sikhala Bail Hearing Rolled Over To Tomorrow

Citizens Coalition for Change legislator Job Sikhala’s bail hearing in the matter in which he is facing charges of obstructing the course of justice has been rolled over to this Tuesday.

Job Sikhala applied for bail saying he has been in remand prison for some time, but the State, led by Mr Lancelot Mutsokoti, opposed the application saying his submissions are not relevant to the records which are before the courts.

Sikhala was arrested alongside another CCC legislator Godfrey Sithole in June this year on allegations of inciting public violence.

Allegations are that between the 25th of May and the 16th of June this year, Sikhala, fully aware that police were looking for murder suspect Pius Jamba Mukandi for the alleged murder of Moreblessing Ali of Nyatsime, addressed mourners who were gathered for the deceased’s funeral at her homestead.

Sikhala is also accused of uploading videos on YouTube claiming that Ali was kidnapped and murdered by ZANU-PF supporters, thereby jeopardising police investigations.

In his initial appearance, Sikhala was denied bail after the state argued that the accused cannot be trusted with his freedom pending trial as he has the propensity to commit similar offences.

148 Malawians Sentenced To Six Months In Prison

Harare has sentenced 148 Malawian nationals to between four and six months in prison, the Malawi Freedom Network reports.

The Malawians are awaiting deportation by the Chivhu and Mvuma magistrates.

Authorities say 65 travellers were intercepted by police in Chivhu, while 83 were arrested in Mvuma, the media reported.

Chivhu Magistrate Henry Sande sentenced the group of 65 to four months’ imprisonment, wholly suspended, pending deportation.

Prosecutors told the court that on Monday that police officers manning a roadblock at the 141km peg along Harare-Masvingo Road intercepted 65 Malawians travelling by road.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police officers found 55 passengers on the Sarge bus and 11 on the other bus, according Zimbabwean news outlet Zim Eye.

Earlier this month, Zimbabwean police detained 86 Malawians suspected of trying to cross into South Africa illegally, according to online news outlet The East African.

Police said the 86 Malawians were found in a house in a town near Zimbabwe’s border with Mozambique.

“On August 15, police in Murewa arrested 86 foreign nationals comprising 76 males and 10 females, for entering the country without travel documents,” the Zimbabwe Republic Police said.

“The suspects were intercepted at a house in a medium-density suburb in Murewa after being assisted by a local transporter.”

Zimbabwe is a major transit corridor for African immigrants trying to reach South Africa.

Zanu Pf Reports Local Authority To ZACC

By A Correspondent- A well-known and vocal Zanu PF youth Jasper Mhaka has reportedly filed an array of allegations ranging from wanton mismanagement to corruption against Mwenezi Rural District Council (MRDC) with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) calling for the anti-graft body to investigate the local authority.

The outspoken Mhaka, who has on record been claiming to be on a mission to square off with corrupt officials within the district, is accusing the local authority of several misconduct cases among them corruption, nepotism, funds embezzlement and massive citizen neglect.

In an interview with TellZim, Mhaka confirmed that he had indeed reported MRDC to ZACC for investigations.

Mhaka, said although he is yet to be given the case number under which his case was filed, he had approached the country’s corruption watchdog to inquire into the local authority’s activities which he claims have gone unabated.

“I can confirm that a report has been made to ZACC against the RDC. The local authority’s budget which they presented to residents is our first dossier.

When council presented its budget last year, they presented a faulty and corrupt budget which was arithmetically wrong and had several omissions,” said Mhaka.

He further accused MRDC of neglect and recklessness in handling sanitation services also claiming that the local authority had on several occasions violated the Public Finance Management Act.

“Despite the fact that residents pay exorbitant rates, there is very poor service delivery around Rutenga growth point. Council is on record of making clandestine resolutions.

If we are to look at devolution expenditures, most of them were done without going to tender as per protocol,” claimed Mhaka.
MRDC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Albert Chivanga however rubbished Mhaka’s claims arguing that the local authority was more than ready to be investigated by ZACC and had nothing to hide.

Contrary to Mhaka’s assertions (who claimed it had been years since the MRDC got audited), Chivanga pointed out that they were last audited for the year 2018 to 2019 by the Auditor General.

“Those allegations are mere fabrications and they cannot deter us as council from executing our mandate as stipulated by laws.

We do not fear ZACC investigators because we have no case to answer. So as the local authority, we are more than ready for any investigations.

“Despite having our own internal auditors, we were audited by the Auditor General for year 2018 to 2019. As it stands, our year 2020 to 2021 books are ready for any audit,” said Chivanga.

Some Zanu PF members were recently at loggerheads with the local authority officials as they sought to be given first preference on market stall stands allocation.

Rich-Cousins Member Sucked In COTTCO Scandal

GUTAI Lisa-Marie Maropafadzo of Maropafadzo Energy (Pvt) Ltd , an ex-convict close to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his family whose company is implicated in the US$5 million Cotton Company of Zimbabwe (Cottco) fraud scandal, has been minting millions of United States dollars from government tenders through her proximity to power.

The 37-year old, who spent 22 years in the United Kingdom before returning home when Mnangagwa took over power through a coup in 2017, has been exposed as a result of the Cottco fraud and money laundering case.

She has been living the life – with her group of friends who call themselves “Rich cousins” – at her Beverly Hills-like mansion in the lavish Gletwyn Park suburb in Harare along Enterprise Road, southwest of Glen Lorne.

The “Rich cousins” is a controversial group of Zimbabwean businesswomen and socialites who include Michelle Kawome, Gina Duri, Danya Kabwebwe, Nobunkosi Ndlovu, Martha Mudzvova, Belinda Murowa, Thandie Makuyana, Marvelous Gumise and Maropafadzo.

Maropafadzo, who used to be known as Gutai Lisa-Marie Mutuke until 2020, is entangled in the fraud and money laundering case involving Gokwe-Nembudziya MP Justice Mayor Wadyajena and Cottco bosses Maxmore Njanji, Pius Makunike and Fortunate Molai, as well as Piermont Moncroix director Chiedza Danha through her company.

Her company, Maropafadzo Energy (Pvt) Ltd, which is only two years old, is accused of receiving US$2.2 million from funds allocated for the procurement of cotton bale ties for Cottco.

The charge sheet for Wadyajena, whose luxury cars and haulage trucks were impounded, and others, including Maropafadzo’s company, says: “On the 8th of March 2022 and 14 March 2022, two further payments were processed and instead of being paid to Pierpont Moncroix as per purchase Order No 124889 were laundered by the accused persons when USD450 000,00 was transferred from Cottco’s CABS account No. 1125257148 to Maropafadzo Energy CBZ account Number 02925639340021 to Maropafadzo Energy Ecobank Account No 5783600043224 respectively. A total of USD2 200 000,00 has been paid against the Purchase order of USD4 578 078-50.

“Payments made to Maropafadzo Energy (Pvt) Ltd being part of the order of bale ties were further transferred into various accounts of individuals accounts and corporates which have nothing to do with the purpose for which the money which the funds were transferred for at Cottco. No bale ties have been delivered by Pierpont Moncroix Mauritius.”

Apart from hobnobbing with the Mnangagwas and “Rich cousins”, Maropafadzo is a member of the Young Women for Economic Development – the President’s cronies – and has said she worked extra hard to set up her business.

Meanwhile, it now turns out she was benefitting from proximity to power and murky business deals.

‘‘My business is not small, it is a big business. I own a company called Maropafadzo. We have over five service stations and move fuel in bulk. I have government tenders and I have not bribed anyone. I didn’t have to go into a relationship with anyone. I don’t have a political background, but I believed in President Mnangagwa,” Maropafadzo said at a Young Women for Economic Development event in Harare last year.

“I stayed in the United Kingdom for 22 years where I lived and worked. I had become very poor. When I came to Zimbabwe that was when the New Dispensation was coming into power. I remember the President’s words when he said ‘Zimbabwe is Open for Business’. I am one of those who managed to establish a business.”

Maropafadzo is not new to scandals.

It has now emerged that was once convicted of fraud in the UK, which explains why she changed her name in 2020.

In 2015, Maropafadzo was found guilty of fraud involving over £2 000 and was sentenced to 120 days in prison, suspended for two years. She was ordered to abide by a four-month curfew to run from 8pm until 7am daily, and was ordered to pay £85 in costs and an £80 victim surcharge.

Gutai Mutuke, as she was known in Britain then, bought a number of items from online high street retailer John Lewis, a brand of high-end department shops in the UK, between June 2013 and March 2014, collecting them in person before returning them to different outlets across the south of England.

She travelled as far afield as Swindon to make legal returns before using the internet order form to get reimbursed by different stores for very similar items she had in her ownership but did not buy from the retailer.

By doing so, Mutuke, as she was known then, fraudulently gained £2 153 – an amount she was ordered by the court to pay back in compensation.

A few years after the scandal, Maropafadzo returned to Zimbabwe and changed her name to protect her identity and hide her fraud conviction.

As part of that process, in September 2020, the first notice was put in the Government Gazette of Zimbabwe of her intention to change her name.

“Notice is hereby given that, by notarial deed of change of name executed before me, Nobert Muhlolo, a legal practitioner and notary public, at Harare, on the 14th day of September, 2020, Gutai Lisa-Marie Mutuke appeared and changed her name to Gutai Lisa-Marie Maropafadzo, so that, henceforth, she shall be known on all occasions by the name Gutai Lisa-Marie Maropafadzo. Dated at Harare on this 14th day of September, 2020.— Nobert Muhlolo, c/o Muhlolo Legal Practice, Second Floor, Pasangano Building, 20, King George Road, Avondale, Harare. 424713f,” the gazette says.

Maropafadzo then officially changed her name in January 2021, according to the gazette.

“Notice is hereby given that, on the 29th day of January, 2021, before me, Beloved Dhlakama, a legal practitioner and notary public, at Harare, appeared Gutai Lisa-Marie Mutuke (born on 7th April, 1985) and changed her name to Gutai Lisa-Marie Maropafadzo, so that, henceforth, for all purposes and on all occasions she shall be known by the said name Gutai Lisa-Marie Maropafadzo. Dated at Harare on this 25th day of January, 2021.—Beloved Dhlakama, c/o Dhlakama B. Attorneys, legal practitioners, 22, Broadlands Road, Emerald Hill, Harare. 470350f.”

In between, she was known as Lisa Matuke, an employee of the First Lady’s Angel of Hope Foundation. She has been part of the foundation’s fund-raising activities.

In 2019, she went to Mhondoro with the foundation for a Christmas party treat for orphans in the area, and gave a speech on behalf of the organisation and First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa.

Who’s Gutai Lisa-Marie Maropafadzo

GUTAI Lisa-Marie Maropafadzo is a 37-year-old Zimbabwean woman, born in April 1985. She owns Maropafadzo Energy (Pvt) Ltd and is close to both President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his wife Auxillia. She is also said to be former finance minister Herbert Murerwa’s step-daughter.

Maropafadzo deals in bulk fuel supply and is a tenderprenuer. Records show that in 2020 she was the president of the Indigenous Petroleum Association of Zimbabwe. The group made a US$35 200 cash donation and provided masks to President Emmerson Mnangagwa during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. She is an active member of the Zanu-PF-affiliated Young Women for Economic Development (Young Women 4ED).

She is also actively involved with the First Lady’s charity foundation. She was convicted of fraud in the United Kingdom in 2015 after swindling shops of more than £2 000. She was ordered to pay back the money and was given a suspended sentence. She came back to Zimbabwe in 2017.

Mutuke applied for change of name in September 2020 and was granted permission to do so in January 2021. She changed her name from Gutai Lisa-Marie Mutuke to Gutai Lisa-Marie Maropafadzo.

6yr Old Byo Girl Mauled To Death By Vicious Dogs

By A Correspondent- The dogs mauled the six-year-old girl to death on Wednesday at the family’s rented home in Matsheumhlophe suburb. This is the second incident in Bulawayo where dogs have killed people following the death of Mr John Gavhera of Selbourne Park who was mauled by his two Boerboels after they reportedly mistook him for an intruder in May this year.

In the latest fatal incident, the girl, Moleen Ndlovu was home alone in a cottage which her parents are renting in Matsheumhlophe when the two dogs owned by the landlord ripped her neck which led to her death at around 7AM.While dogs are meant to protect people, dog trainers and experts have warned that some of the breeds can be aggressive to people including their owners.

Some of the breeds considered to be aggressive and dangerous include Boerboels, Pit Bulls and Rottweilers, among others. Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident yesterday.
He urged residents to build kennels for their dogs. “Investigations are being instituted into a case of sudden death where 6-year-old Moleen Ndlovu was bitten by dogs to death. The case occurred in Matsheumhlophe suburb, Bulawayo and the dogs belong to the house owner whilst Moleen Ndlovu is a daughter of a tenant at the same house,” said Insp Ncube

On the 24th of August 2022 at around 7AM hours, the now deceased left the cottage going to the main house intending to check whether there was electricity. The cottage is about 100m from the main house and there is a gate demarcating the cottage and the main house. The owner of the house heard the now deceased screaming and she looked out through the window and saw their two Boerboel dogs attacking her.

Insp Ncube said the owner of the house failed to restrain the dogs when she went out of the main house. “One of the dogs released the deceased but the other one resisted and dragged her for about 10 metres and left her dead.”
The father of the girl Mr Josiah Ndlovu told Chronicle’s sister paper, B-Metro that his daughter died when he was not home.
“As usual we had left her at home at around 06.30am yesterday (Wednesday) and went to work,” he said.

Mr Ndlovu said while he was at his workplace, he received a shock call from his landlady and he sensed that something was wrong at the other end of the call. “I heard people in the background and it quickly occurred to me that there was something bad that had happened. I tried to ask but they could not tell me and she only said I have to return home because something bad had happened at home, then I had to return home,” he said.

“When I got home I found that my child had died. They told me that the dogs bit her in the neck and ripped it open. My landlady and another woman tried to restrain them but they failed as the dogs continued attacking her

Mr Ndlovu was at a loss for words as to why the dogs attacked her since she used to play with them. “To me it’s a shock as to why they turned on her because she has been playing with them and they knew her. It’s a shock how they mauled her to death,” he said.
Recently, the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) animal welfare officer Mrs Berry Oosthuizen said pet lovers should not keep aggressive dogs without understanding their behaviour and temperament. “Dogs that usually attack people are Boerboels largely because most dog keepers don’t understand this type of breed. These dogs are not a breed that is supposed to be locked in small cages or kept in small properties because this is what makes them aggressive,” she said.

“They get frustrated and this is why they end up biting people. No dogs are born aggressive, but are only made aggressive by people who don’t properly understand them. Educating the public on how to keep dogs properly is what is needed.”

Inspectors Mzimkhulu Ncube

The officer in charge of the ZRP Bulawayo Canine Section, Inspector Mzimkhulu Ncube recently told Chronicle that boerboels easily forget and they are very dangerous and hostile, particularly to children. “We actually prefer dogs that we train so that we achieve what we want, which is why we have Labrador Retrievers and German Shepherds in the police service. Boerboels and Pit Bulls forget easily, which is why we don’t keep them,” he said.
“In most cases, these are the same dogs which attack people in homes because they are jealous. These dogs once they form a bond with their owner, they become aggressive and attack anyone who gets closer to him or her

Zanu PF October Congress Doubtful

Zanu-PF activist Sybeth Musengezi, who last year launched a bold challenge against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s legitimacy as party leader, has returned to the courts to file an urgent chamber application seeking to stop him from convening a party congress due this October.

Zanu-PF is set to hold its elective congress 26-29 October this year with Mnangagwa looking set to keep his job as the ruling party’s number one.

But the veteran politician has the Musengezi hurdle to clear first.

Musengezi, whose own party membership status has been challenged by Mnangagwa’s sympathisers within the party, is adamant he is indeed a legitimate Zanu-PF member and still sticks by his earlier position that Mnangagwa was not legitimate.

Mnangagwa muscled himself to both Zanu-PF and state leadership after he masterminded a 2017 military coup that removed Zimbabwe’s long time ruler Robert Mugabe.

The coup was followed by a hastily arranged Zanu-PF special session central committee meeting that confirmed the incumbent as new party leader.

But Musengezi, in his court challenge, is adamant the event was illegal in that it was convened in contravention of the party’s constitution.

The activist last year filed a court application seeking a declarer to this effect.

In his latest court challenge, he cited Zanu-PF as first respondent.

Mnangagwa, Obert Mpofu (Zanu-PF secretary for administration) and Patrick Chinamasa (Secretary for Finance) were cited as second to fourth respondent’s while Zimpapers and Herald editor Hatred Zengeni are the fifth and sixth respondents.

“My application undercover of case number HC5687/22 is rooted in a complaint about illegality attendant to the convening, deliberations and resolutions of the Special session of Zanu-PF Central Committee that convened on the 19th of November 2017.

“The basis of my complaint is that the person who convened the said Special Central Committee session had no authority to do so in terms of Zanu-PF’s Constitution.

“The person who presided over the said meeting had no capacity/authority to preside over such meeting in terms of the Constitution of Zanu-PF.

“Zanu-PF’s office bearers therein elected in the said meeting were therefore elected in an unlawful process.

“The resolutions proceeding from the unlawful process of the said meeting were and still remain unlawful,” he said.

Musengezi said he got worried when the Herald on August 22 published that Mpofu, as Zanu-PF secretary for administration, had announced that the elective Congress will be held in October, allowing Mnangagwa to preside over the meeting.

“The persons who intend to convene such meeting, Mnangagwa, Mpofu and Chinamasa are illegal where they stand in that the positions occupied by them are by virtue of the choices made at the impugned 2017 Special Session of Zanu-PF’s Central Committee.

“Thus, if allowed to proceed with the National People’s Congress as envisaged, such effort will still be an illegal outcome,” he said.

The matter is yet to be heard.

Panic As Council Confidential Document Leaks

By A Correspondent- There was panic in the City Council senior employees after a confidential legal opinion from the Senior Partner of Coghlan and Welsh Promise Ncube interpreting High Court order in the case of former Deputy Mayor Tinashe Kambarami vs City of Bulawayo and others.

The confidential letter was directed to the City of Bulawayo by the above lawyers.

The letter was quoted in a Sunday News article titled   Bulawayo tug of War takes new twist.

The lawyers in their legal opinion had told the City of Bulawayo that Kambarami who was expelled as Ward 3 Councillor and ousted as Deputy Mayor must resume his Ward duties and his duties as Deputy Mayor removing the current Deputy Mayor Mlandu Ncube after the court had set aside his expulsion as Councillor null and void.

A senior director in the City of Bulawayo who spoke to this reporter on condition of anonymity said after the article was published there was pandemonium in the rank and file of a certain section of the management of the Council with phone calls being made back and forth question where the leak may have come from.

“We spent the rest of the morning and a better part of the afternoon exchanging phones calls over the leaked confidential information,” the director said. “One of the issues of concern is that such a highly confidential document from our lawyers was leaked either from one of our management or from our lawyers but we said it cannot be our lawyers because they practice attorney-client privilege.”

Political analyst Nicholas Ncube said the leak of such a sensitive document revealed that there is a mole in the  Council.

“There is clearly a mole in the council who leaked the document.” Ncube said. “What we may not know is what is the agenda behind the leak. Could it be to push a public narrative or is it signs that there cracks in the management of the Council and following the public leak of the document to the public before it being formally placed before the full council is an administrative challenge as it can not be of any value to the Councillors and prejudices Councillor Mlandu Ncube who is likely to be prejudiced by the implementation of the resolution.it remains to be seen how the whole council shall handle the crisis?

Telegraph Report: How nurses recruited from Zimbabwe are being caught in UK ‘bonded labour’ schemes

Zimbabwean care workers are being tricked into coming to the UK by unscrupulous middlemen who withhold up to half their wages and force them to live in squalor.

The scam, which plays on the acute shortages of nursing and care staff across Britain’s hospitals and care homes, has echoes of the debt bondage schemes recently revealed to be impacting Indonesian farmers.

Zimbabwe is in economic crisis and thousands of trained care professionals are seeking employment abroad. However agencies – often run by Zimbabweans in the UK and unregulated – are exploiting them, a Telegraph investigation has found.

“When you are working for an agency [in the UK], they pay you 50 per cent of your total salary,” said Jim Moyo*, who moved to the UK from Harare in November 2018 to work in a care home in Margate. “You are getting paid £14 per hour, but then these guys will pay you £7.”

He added that, once tax was deducted, he was left with just £4 per hour for “rent, food and all sorts of expenses”.

“[The agency] tells you: ‘I paid for your accommodation, flights, visa, [I’m] your sponsor’. It’s like a hideous loan,” said Mr Moyo.

While Zimbabwe’s nurses have found work in Britain for years, hiring care workers is a new phenomenon, and experts told the Telegraph that a lucrative ecosystem of manipulation has been built around it.

“Exploitation does not start on arrival [in the UK],” said Hillary Musarurwa, a Zimbabwe-born social scientist in England. “It starts during the application process [in Zimbabwe].”

One route to the UK is by completing a Red Cross care worker certification programme.

“It’s like cow barns, Red Cross academies are filled to seams with UK-hopeful care-work trainees. It’s ex-teachers and geologists desperate to retrain for UK care work,” said Joseph Zuze*, a trainee nurse at Mutare Hospital, who plans to emigrate to the UK when he graduates.

‘Huge web of corruption’
The Certificate of Sponsorship (COS) is highly coveted, which has led to it being exploited by middlemen, according to locals.

Mr Zuze said his wife had been scammed by “agents” who charged $380 to put her on the training waitlist, despite the official Red Cross certification costing just $300. These agents are not in any way employed, endorsed or contracted by Red Cross Zimbabwe and there is no evidence Red Cross Zimbabwe is aware of them.

Closed WhatsApp groups, seen by the Telegraph, show that so-called agents then ask care workers to pay up to £5,000 if they want to be linked with UK-based care agencies.

“This has created another huge web of corruption; care agencies in the UK, run by Zimbabwe nationals, [are] gifting the COS to their relatives and friends first and anyone else [faces] hefty fees that reach £4,000,” said Mr Zuze.

Another Zimbabwe-born nurse working for the NHS in North London added that she knew someone in the UK “charging £7,000”.

This clearly contradicts British law, according to Taffi Nyawanza, head of immigration at Mezzle Law in Birmingham who is well-known in Zimbabwe’s UK diaspora community.

“UK law is clear. A recruitment agency cannot charge a fee for ‘placing’ an employee. The person who ‘assigns’ or prepares and allocates the [COS] must not be related to the prospective employee. [If] this is the case, the relationship must be fully disclosed to the Home Office,” he said.

However regulation of these agencies is weak, and the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) suggested that – although it is unacceptable that some overseas-based agencies are charging fees to place candidates with jobs in Britain – their hands are tied because the actors are not under UK jurisdiction.

“We understand repayment clauses may be used by some organisations to recoup upfront costs if internationally recruited staff do not meet the terms of their contract,” a spokesperson said.

“The vast majority of care workers are employed by private sector providers who ultimately set their pay, terms and conditions independent of central government. However, we would be concerned if repayment costs were disproportionate or punitive”.

Experts said the schemes have taken advantage of chronic staffing issues across the UK’s social and health care systems – the NHS alone is currently trying to fill 40,000 nursing positions – which has triggered a surge in international recruitment.

This week, the DHSC signed a deal with Nepal for 100 nurses to work at Hampshire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, under a pilot scheme that could pave the way for thousands more Nelapese nurses to come to Britain.

But the ethics of the move are “debatable at best”, according to Sir Andrew Goddard, president of the Royal College of Physicians, as Nepal is on an international recruitment red list – operated by the World Health Organization (WHO) – to prevent developed countries from actively recruiting from regions with a lack of health workers or an undeveloped health system.

“That the UK should have [to] do special deals with other countries to support its own NHS workforce is in itself a marker of how workforce planning for the NHS has failed,” Sir Andrew told the Telegraph. “That we are taking from a country that has substantially lower numbers of healthcare workers than many countries have is something we should have serious reservations about.”

NHS England has also been accused of “emptying” Zimbabwe of health workers – although the country is not on the red list, experts have warned of a “critical shortage” of staff.

In 2020, the UK issued 1,059 skilled visas to Zimbabweans, a figure which jumped to 5,549 in 2022, placing the southern African country among the UK’s top five skilled visa grantees.

Yet the recruitment drive has drained Zimbabwe so badly that Bulawayo municipality, in the southwest, recently complained that 13 nurses out of its skeleton staff have moved to the UK since January.

Extreme poverty is stalking Zimbabwe, and nurses are seeking a better life CREDIT: JEKESAI NJIKIZANA/AFP via Getty Images
That’s despite a vast difference in the number of health professionals per population. In 2018, there were 1.9 nurses and midwives per 1,000 people in Zimbabwe, compared to the UK’s 8.2 nurses and midwives per 1,000.

But extreme poverty is stalking Zimbabwe, and nurses – who are paid just $79 a month and expected to juggle a high patient load – are seeking a better life. Inflation has shot to 479 per cent this year alone, according to Steve Hanke, director of the Troubled Currencies project at the Cato Institute.

However, many find themselves no better off when they reach the UK – a situation experts say is now too large to ignore.

Rumours of agencies overcharging workers exploded publicly on Twitter in June, with leaked care-worker pay slips purportedly showing salaries of £2,255 drained by their employers under guises of administrative fees until just £604 was left.

Mr Moyo, who left the UK after a matter of months due to the conditions, said he was not alone in seeing his wages cut dramatically, or living in cramped conditions. While in Britain, he was forced to pay £70 a week to share a house with eight others.

“I’ll never return to the UK as a care worker,” he told the Telegraph, describing the schemes as a form of modern slavery. But the experiences of those who were undocumented were even worse, he added.

“I met with guys who told me, ‘I have been [in the UK] since 1999 and don’t have papers, so I do care work, I work for an agency and [I’m] left with 300 pounds. You just do what they ask you to do’,” Mr Moyo said, referring to colleagues he met in Margate. He added that some workers were so impoverished that they slept in the clients’ homes.

‘Slavery happening in front of our eyes’
Though UK law allows employers to dock wages for “reasonable costs”, any employee must not be left with an income that is below the UK national living wage of £9.50 an hour, Mr Nyawanza said.

These workers are also subject to zero-hours contracts, which means an employer does not guarantee the individual any hours of work, according to Tich Dauramanzi, a Zimbabwe-born engineer who ran a legitimate care staffing agency in Stoke-on-Trent until 2017.

“This is slavery happening in front of our eyes. I strongly believe we are going to have a court case very soon. Most of these employers owe people more money than they can ever pay,” he said.

The DHSC told the Telegraph that it takes reports of illegal employment practices seriously, and that the Gangmaster and Labour Abuse Authority prosecutes lawbreakers, though it’s not the DHSC’s responsibility to penalise agencies.

The Home office has cracked down on similar practices in some Asian and East European recruitment companies in the past, with some success. But Zimbabwe-owned care agencies have a clever tactic up their sleeve, according to Mr Dauramanzi.

“They are recruiting a lot of young [Zimbabweans]. For some, this is the first time they have been employed. Most of them are gripped by the fear factor. They’re told ‘here’s your only chance to come to the UK,’” he said.

Meanwhile the UK’s strict immigration regime has also exacerbated exploitation, according to Justine Currell director at the anti-slavery charity, Unseen.

“The Hostile Environment is creating an ability for people to be [living] in exploitation, to be kept in exploitation, and to not to want to come to authorities for fear of repercussions,” Ms Currell said.

The hostile environment policy was introduced in 2012 by then-Home Secretary Theresa May, with the intention of making life in the UK difficult for those who cannot show the right paperwork. Such policies prevent people from accessing housing, healthcare, education, work, bank accounts, and benefits.

Though Unseen runs a help fund for victims to report anonymously, the reality is that “people feel they have no options but to continue working,” Ms Currell said. “[It’s] very difficult [to] get info from individuals because there are no easy routes to get support. It’s quite tragic.”

Bizarre As Quartet Collapse, Duo Die On The Spot In The CBD

By A Correspondent- Four people collapsed within minutes of each other in the same general area in Harare’s central business district (CBD) on Saturday in what has been described as a bizarre occurrence.

Two of the four people were later declared dead on the scene.

The strange incidents occurred near the intersection of Robert Mugabe Road and Julius Nyerere Way in Harare’s CBD.

The bizarre incidents and deaths were confirmed by the police.

According to an eye witness who spoke to the Sunday Mail, the chain of events started when a Mercedes Benz and a Volkswagen Amarok were involved in a high-impact accident.

A few hours after the crash, an elderly pirate taxi driver who was driving a Honda Fit collapsed while at the wheel.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical first responders. An eyewitness added that while the ambulance personnel were attending to the taxi driver, another woman collapsed nearby.

“During the time the ambulance crew was attending to the man, a woman collapsed at the entrance of a shop, and they had to rush to her, but she appeared to have died.

Just minutes later, a cyclist also collapsed nearby. While people were trying to make sense of the events, a fourth person, a woman,  collapsed in a nearby boutique.

The bizarre events were confirmed by the police. Zimbabwe Republic Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi told the publication,

“We had some unfortunate incidents in Harare today. There was an accident involving a Mercedes Benz and Amarok at around 4 am along Robert Mugabe intersection with Julius Nyerere and Innez Terrace that portion of the road. Then coincidentally, after some minutes, we had a pirate taxi which was being driven by a certain man and the man suddenly collapsed in the vehicle and passed on.”

“Some few minutes later, we had a cyclist who also suddenly collapsed in the same area. We also have a woman, who was coming out of a supermarket along the same area, who just collapsed and died.

Barcelona Star Robbed At Gun Point

Several armed men robbed and beat Barcelona forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after breaking into his home.

Four intruders climbed into the back garden of Aubameyang’s home in Castelldefels.

Aubameyang, 33, was threatened with firearms and iron bars, and was even beaten, according to police sources reported by El Pais.

The thieves also intimidated Aubameyang’s wife, Alysha Behague, with weapons until they managed to get the safe open.

Several jewels were taken from the home and the four men fled in a white Audi A3, per witness reports.

Catalunya police are now searching for who may have been involved.

A number of high profile football players in Spain have been subject to robberies.

However, most of the break-ins happen while the footballers are playing – making Aubameyang’s incident unusual.

The scary attack on his home may make Aubameyang want to leave Barca sooner.

Aubameyang has been linked with a return to England to play for Chelsea after falling out of favour under Xavi.

Despite netting 13 goals from January until the end of last season, following a free transfer from Arsenal, Aubameyang was replaced this summer.

Ballon d’Or 2021 runner-up Robert Lewandowski was brought in.

However, like Aubameyang, Lewandowski quickly encountered thieves in Barca as his luxury £59,000 watch stolen outside Barca’s training ground.

Before an evening training session, the Poland hitman stopped to greet fans outside the club’s Ciutat Esportiva complex.

But one crafty thief used the distraction to open Lewandowski’s car door and make off with the high-end time piece.

The striker sprinted after the culprit, who was eventually caught by police and the watch was then returned to a grateful Lewandowski.

Chelsea, managed by Aubameyang’s former Borussia dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel, are keen on bringing the striker back to England.

Manchester United have also been linked with a move.

Mboneni Ncube’s Relatives Go Into Hiding Over Murder Suspects Attack

By A Correspondent- The relatives of Mboneni Ncube, a CCC supporter who was killed by suspected ZANU PF activists this year, have gone into hiding after the murder suspects attacked the key witness in the case.

Ncube (35) was attacked with a spear and died on 27 February at Mbizo 4 shopping centre while CCC leader Nelson Chamisa was addressing a rally.

Apostolic Sect Calls On Members To Get Vaccinated

By A Correspondent- The Mugodhi Apostolic Faith Church (MAFC) has urged its members to have their children vaccinated against measles.

Speaking at the church’s annual 10-day gathering in Dorowa, Murambinda on Sunday, MAFC spokesperson Mike Mukarati said the sect fully supports the government’s vaccination drive against measles.

Said Mukarati:

We urge the apostolic sect to accept the measles vaccination programme. We are in support of the government programme to vaccinate children against measles.

We value our health, hence we need to make sure that we get the necessary medication and treatment.

On 16 August, Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said that 157 children had succumbed to measles since the outbreak of the disease in Mutasa District, Manicaland Province, on 10 April this year.

Health and Child Care Ministry permanent secretary Jasper Chimedza blamed apostolic church sects (mapostori) for the surge in infections, saying measles was largely prevalent among those who had not received vaccinations.

Meanwhile, the Mugodhi Apostolic Faith Church urged young women to shun and avoid child marriages. Added Mukarakati:

This gathering is meant for youths and we are here to empower them with life skills. We are saying no to child marriages and this platform is meant to discourage them from rushing into marriages.

The MAFC event was attended by Buhera North legislator William Mutomba (ZANU PF), Chief Chitsunge and several ZANU PF politicians from the district.

Gvt Does Not Impose School Fees Amounts

By A Correspondent- Government does not impose school fees amounts, but in terms of the Education Act, any tuition fees adjustment must be approved by a majority of parents at a meeting of the School Parents Assembly attended by not less than 20 percent of the parents.

School authorities are then supposed to tender an application for an adjustment accompanied by minutes of the meeting and the school budget to the Ministry for processing.

Schools Development Association/Committees secretary, Mr Evaristo Jongwe, said there is a need for schools to comply with the Government directive on use of the USD component.

“Government policy says goods and services can be payable in US dollar or for local currency at prevailing interbank rate. We are urging schools to comply with Government policies and are also looking into the issue to rein in schools that defy the law.

Dudula Renews Xenophobic Threats On Zimbabweans

By- Operation Dudula has renewed its attacks on foreign nationals.

At the weekend, the xenophobic grouping marched to shops in Johannesburg demanding that foreigners must leave.

Chamisa Concedes Defeat

By James Gwati- The opposition CCC leader Nelson Chamisa has accepted the weekend Gokwe-Kabuyuni by-election results which went in favour of Zanu PF.

Zanu PF candidate Spencer Tshuma won the by-election.
According to the official results, Tshuma garnered 10 727 votes, while the CCC candidate Costin Muguti polled 4 800 votes

Commenting on the results, Chamisa said the by-election was a learning moment for the opposition party.

He tweeted:
A SALUTE TO BRAVE CITIZENS & CHANGE CHAMPIONS IN GOKWE KABUYUNI…This was a good fight, a learning moment, and it’s a process. We’re doing well against all odds. We continue excelling. We must deal with fear, forced voting, and abuse of traditional leaders. We will WIN BIG! #fakapressure

The Gokwe-Kabuyuni seat fell vacant following the death of Leonard Chikomba who died in a car accident on 28 May this year.

Muguti once held the seat under the MDC-T ticket between 2008 and 2013 after defeating Chikomba but lost after serving for only one term.

Govt: We’ll Build 1,000 Houses Per Month

National Housing and Social Amenities minister Daniel Garwe says government will be constructing 1 000 housing units per month.
“We have adopted the use of new technologies which I think next month you will see the next block of flats being constructed which enables us to deliver at least 1000 units per month throughout the country,” Garwe said this last week while touring Arlington Estates developed by Cardinal Corporation.

This has, however, been dismissed as mere politicking and a dummy.

Almost half of Zimbabweans are tenants and working in the informal sector, an indictment for a country hoping to attain upper-middle income status by 2030.

According to the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZimStat) 42,7% of those interviewed during the national population and housing census have no place to call home.

Garwe noted that Cardinal Corporation managed to respond to the dictates of the national human policy settlement by processing nearly 600 title deeds for residents at the estate.

“There are few things that we are witnessing here. First is the developer’s response to the dictates of the national human policy settlement that no houses will be built before services are provided and that certificates of compliance are issued, then title deeds processed. We are witnessing that developers have already processed about 600 title deeds,” Garwe said.

He stated that the provision of title deeds was going to stifle the operations of land barons who have been allocating illegal settlements to desperate home seekers.

“That kills land barons or informal human settlements” Garwe said.

Arlington Estate has, however, been under the spotlight following utterances by Harare Provincial Affairs and Devolution secretary Tafadzwa Muguti early this year that houses built near Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport were in a red zone.

“In terms of suggestions that this might be demolished, I think it’s highly unlikely. The first thing is any developer has to subscribe to the laws of the land which we have done. We have been doing this for 16 years. It seems unusual that anyone would want to demolish it in the sixteenth year,” Cardinal Corporation executive chairperson Jeremy Brooke said.- Newsday

CCC Speaks On Gokwe-Kabuyuni By-Election

By- The opposition CCC has said that the weekend by-election in the Gokwe-Kabuyuni constituency was stolen.

The party’s spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere posted on Twitter lamenting alleged electoral fraud and indirectly blaming Zanu PF and ZEC for the party’s loss.

“This is not victory. It’s electoral theft. We thank the thousands of brave citizens in Gokwe who voted for change.
We’ve engaged the region & international community over the escalation of political violence. Security of the vote & voter are integral for 2023,” she said.

Zanu PF candidate Spencer Tshuma won the by-election.
According to the official results announced by Constituency Elections Officer Kudzai Nkomo, Tshuma garnered 10 727 votes, while the Citizens’ Coalition for Change’s (CCC) candidate Costin Muguti polled 4 800 votes
. The Gokwe-Kabuyuni seat fell vacant following the death of Leonard Chikomba who died in a car accident on 28 May this year.

Govt Suspends ZUPCO Buses Over Chamisa Kariba Rally

Public transporter, Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (Zupco) yesterday stopped local services in Kariba in a move allegedly aimed at reducing the number of people expected to attend Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) rally which was held yesterday at Nyamhunga Stadium.
Zupco services for buses coming to Kariba over the past two days were also affected.

Kariba resident Panashe Kondowe said he had to walk from Mahombekombe high-density suburb to Nyamhunga Stadium for the rally.

On Saturday, soccer fans were also
forced to walk for the Dynamos-ZPC Kariba match at the same venue.

“We cannot suffer because some people feared CCC supporters might attend a rally today (yesterday). That is a child mentality,” Kondowe said.

But Zupco Kariba operations manager Paul Karemba dismissed the assertion, citing shortage of fuel as the reason for the suspension of services.

“It is unfortunate that people think evil of us, but the truth is we did not have enough fuel to cover all areas for the past two days. There is nothing I can do because it is a national problem,” Karemba said. -Newsday

Another Paedophile Arrested

Police have arrested another boy scouts leader for sexually abusing boys with police saying more victims are coming up to build cases against the perpetrators. Christopher Mackenzie (29), himself an alleged victim of sexual abuse by another scout leader, Norman Scott who died earlier this month in his 70s, is said to have turned into an abuser.

The first arrested suspect

He is facing several counts of indecent assault and aggravated indecent assault cases against young boys. Mackenzie is said to have been one of more than 50 boys who were abused by the late Scott for a period of more than 40 years. Scott died before victims could get justice with victims decrying the slow wheels of justice as some of them had lived with the trauma for nearly 40 years as the abuse allegedly started in late 1970s.

It is alleged that Mackenzie later grew to become Scott’s protégé in sexually abusing boys where they used their positions within the Scout Association of Zimbabwe to commit the crimes. The boys’ sexual abuse is said to have gone for more than 40 years undetected until last year when one of the victims opened up on the abuse with more survivors later sharing their experiences.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed Mackenzie’s arrest. “Yes, we have a report for the late Norman Scott who you reported about and Christopher Mackenzie, the dockets are now at the Regional Court (Matabeleland South),” said Ass Comm Nyathi. He said witnesses are still coming forward and there are certain issues, which have been raised by the courts, which the police are attending to.

Ass Comm Nyathi could, however, not give the number of counts that Mackenzie is facing but said more victims were coming forward. “There are several cases and complainants are still coming. I can’t say now how many counts he is facing as more victims are coming,” he said.

Asst Comm Nyathi said it was worrying that individuals who were trusted to protect minors became their abusers.

He said providing safety to children has to be prioritised and individuals of integrity should be the only ones entrusted with the responsibility of protecting the interests of minors. “People who look after these youngsters while conducting these activities need to be people of repute and need to be people who are trustworthy. It’s really sad when children are abused by people who are supposed to protect them,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.

He urged parents and guardians to be open to their children to enable them to freely discuss issues affecting their social life so that such issues are nipped in the bud.

Reflecting on Scott’s death one of his victims said Mackenzie would perpetuate Scott’s legacy of sexual abuse if justice is not served. “He was a victim of Norman Scott and later became an abuser. Norman Scott’s legacy of sexual abuse of young boys will live on through his protégé, Chris Mackenzie unless justice is served by the Zimbabwean legal system. It’s time that the circle of abuse is stopped once and for all to safeguard our children,” said one of the victims who could not be named.

“This 29-year-old is a real threat to society and needs to be stopped from sexually abusing young people”.

The victim said Scott and Mackenzie turned an organisation, which was designed to develop boys into confident citizens who are able to tackle societal challenges to a place that reduced them to hapless traumatised individuals.

The victim said Scott even infected some of his victims with sexually transmitted diseases. “Over the past few months, I have been in contact with many victims of your 40 years of sexual abuse. I have been horrified by the irreversible harm you have done to so many boys that trusted and looked up to you,” said the victim.

He said there are several that have battled mental health issues and have contemplated taking their lives to end the torment caused by Scott’s depravity. “I have been sickened to hear details of the horrific sexual acts you subjected young boys to, and these have become horrific as time went on including passing on sexually transmitted diseases to young boys.”

He said it was worrying that the boy scout association was their hunting ground where they would get easy prey. Globally the scout movement has been rocked with boy sexual abuse scandals amid claims that some of the cases are not reported to protect the organisation’s name.

The association has faced similar sexual abuse cases in countries such as United Kingdom, Australia and America

Research shows that more than 80 000 individuals are reported to have been sexually abused within the Scouts Association of America where it is also being sued for trying to keep a secret some of the abuse cases.– Chronicle

Last week Zanu PF agents attacked President Chamisa’s motorcade in Gokwe.

The CCC leader wrote on Twitter:
“A SALUTE TO BRAVE CITIZENS & CHANGE CHAMPIONS IN GOKWE KABUYUNI…

Mnangagwa Using Violence To Justify Postponement Of Polls

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa’s “Operation Mango” is giving Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa sleepless nights.

Operation Mango urges citizens to wear green while they are yellow inside.

According to CCC Namibia, Mr Mnangagwa’s administration wants to use violence to justify postponement of elections.

See full statement below:

Operation Mango is an option for all the defenseless women, old men, and disabled who can’t run catch and mouse with the desperate ZANU-PF thugs who are used to kill innocent ciizens for a bottle of Super Chibuku and mutotiro.

Citizens Coalition for Change Namibia condemns the arbitrary arrest of the change champion, a resident of Mutawatawa, Isheanesu Chirisa who was arrested on trumped-up charges. The charges were concocted after the change champion attended a well-subscribed rally held at Nhakiwa in Uzumba by the people’s president Nelson Chamisa. Isheanesu is facing charges of having a firearm. The intention is to deter him from participating in the national discourse.

Musengezi Determined To Remove Mnangagwa

ZANU PF youth league member Sybeth Musengezi has filed an urgent High Court chamber application seeking a ruling stopping President Emmerson Mnangagwa from calling and presiding over Zanu PF’s upcoming elective congress.

“Take notice that the applicant intends to make an urgent chamber application to this honourable court seeking to interdict the first, second, third and fourth respondents from convening and presiding over the first respondent’s national people’s congress as announced by Obert Moses Mpofu, first respondent’s secretary for administration,” Musengezi submitted in court papers filed yesterday by his lawyers Nqobani and Associates.

Zanu PF, Mnangagwa, Mpofu, party finance secretary Patrick Chinamasa, Zimbabwe Newspapers and Herald editor Hatred Zengeni were cited as respondents in the matter.

“First, second, third and fourth respondents are aware of a pending court application for a declarator filed by the applicant and issued out of the court under cover of case number HC 5687/21,” Musengezi’s lawyers stated.

“Applicant’s application aforesaid seeks to declare unlawful, the process by which the second, third and fourth respondents assumed the positions that they now hold, which positions the second and third respondents are now acting upon to convene the congress.”

Musengezi’s first application where he challenged Mnangagwa’s ascendancy to the party presidency in November 2017, is still pending at the High Court.

“Respondents are, therefore, acting on the basis of powers and authority of positions that the same acquired through a process that is impugned in a case that is still pending resolution by this honourable court.”

Zanu PF has said Mnangagwa enjoys presidential immunity.

The ruling party has also said Musengezi could not challenge Mnangagwa’s legitimacy since he was a “bogus” party member.

S*x Party Organisers Face Arrest

Organisers of a Mutare s_Ɛx party whose fliers were recently circulating on various social media platforms have been strongly cautioned by the police against such activities.

The s_Ɛx party was allegedly being organised by s_Ɛx workers from Dangamvura.

After week-long investigations, The Weekender has established that the party, which was scheduled for August 21, was cancelled on the 11th hour after the organisers realised that they had attracted too much attention.

It is, however, understood that the s_Ɛx party has been moved to October, although some people had already paid their money.

“Takuita October zvambonyarara,” (We have rescheduled it to October after the noise dies down) responded one of the organisers only identified as Ninilet on a WhatsApp group created to push the message.

The party’s flier even listed the names of the ladies who were scheduled to attend the party, including Ninilet, Fairness, Mai TK and Mellisa.

The flier stated that the four would be readily available to offer inti_macy services to male ‘guests’.

Among other requirements, the organisers said those interested in the s_Ɛx party should bring their own refreshments and pay a cover charge of ZW$2 000.

But as Manicaland residents speak strongly against the audacity of the s_Ɛx party organisers, The Weekender has established that a WhatsApp and a Telegram group named ‘Ninilet Hookup and Adult Lounge’ has been formed for the same purposes.

By Wednesday morning, the WhatsApp group had 375 members and nine administrators.

By Wednesday midday, the Telegram group had more than 700 participants.

In the groups, people hook up with each other, while explicit messages are the order of the day.

It has been established that the social media groups now have participants from as far as Harare, Beitbridge, Masvingo, Gweru and Bulawayo.

Ninilet also sells her n_ude pictures and videos via WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram and Twitter for ZW$2 000.

It is also understood that she has profiles on popular p0rn websites and it is suspected that videos of the orgies might end up on the websites without the consent of the ‘guests’ at the lined up s_Ɛx party.

Police this week came out guns blazing saying the originator of the flier, those circulating it, organisers and would-be organisers of s_Ɛx parties will be arrested to face the music.

“We are aware and the police are seized with the matter. This morning I will be engaging the Criminal Investigation Department (CID)’s Officer-in-charge to appraise him about the matter,” said Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Norbert Muzondo.

“Investigations have commenced to flash out organisers and would-be organisers of such events in Manicaland. This is a serious crime and perpetrators will face the music.

“The person who designed the flier and those circulating it on social media platforms with the intention of luring clients will face the music.

‘‘The originator of the flier has already committed an offence and we have since launched a manhunt to bring him or her to book.

“The scene of the crime is the cyberspace so people on social media should be aware that we are also policing the space,” he said.

The issue has been received with great reprimand on social media.

Zimbabwe Is Not Zanu PF – President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri|Zimbabwe is not Zanu PF and every citizen has the right to travel to all parts of the country, CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa has said.

Last week Zanu PF agents attacked President Chamisa’s motorcade in Gokwe.

The CCC leader wrote on Twitter:
“A SALUTE TO BRAVE CITIZENS & CHANGE CHAMPIONS IN GOKWE KABUYUNI…

This was a good fight, a learning moment and it’s a process.

We’re doing well against all odds.We continue excelling. We must deal with fear, forced voting, abuse of traditional leaders.
We will WIN BIG! #fakapressure.”

CCC deputy spokesperson Gift Ostallos Siziba wrote on Facebook:

“When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty.

Let it be known to zanupf and all the headmasters of chaos that you will never wish us away!
We will resist and fight any such attempts!

We will continue to organize and gather, we have the right and freedom to do so.

Revealed :Mnangagwa Using Violence To Justify Postponement Of Polls

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa’s “Operation Mango” is giving Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa sleepless nights.

Operation Mango urges citizens to wear green while they are yellow inside.

According to CCC Namibia, Mr Mnangagwa’s administration wants to use violence to justify postponement of elections.

See full statement below:

Operation Mango is an option for all the defenseless women, old men, and disabled who can’t run catch and mouse with the desperate ZANU-PF thugs who are used to kill innocent ciizens for a bottle of Super Chibuku and mutotiro.

Global Impact Of Drowning

Today, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a call for people around the world to “do one thing” to prevent drowning.

As one of the leading causes of death globally for children and young people ages 1–24, and the third leading cause of injury-related deaths overall, drowning tragically claims more than 236 000 lives each year. To galvanize action and mark World Drowning Prevention Day, the Jet d’Eau in Geneva will be illuminated in blue this evening, accompanied by similar actions in other cities around the world.

––

More than 90% of drowning deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries, with children under the age of 5 being at highest risk. These deaths are frequently linked to daily, routine activities, such as bathing, collecting water for domestic use, travelling over water on boats or ferries, and fishing. The impacts of seasonal or extreme weather events – including monsoons – are also a frequent cause of drowning and these impacts are largely preventable through a number of interventions.

“Every year, around the world, hundreds of thousands of people drown. Most of these deaths are preventable through evidence-based, low-cost solutions,” said WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “Today, cities around the world are lighting up their monuments in blue light as a call to action for each of us to do our part to prevent drowning. Let’s put a stop to drowning.”

“Drowning is a global public health challenge, and at Bloomberg Philanthropies, we’re focused on implementing solutions to prevent it.

Today, we’re joining our partners around the world in recognizing World Drowning Prevention Day and taking action,” said Michael R. Bloomberg, founder of Bloomberg Philanthropies and WHO Global Ambassador for Noncommunicable Diseases and Injuries. “In many cases, we know what works to prevent drowning. We’ve developed tools and guidance to help governments implement solutions – and if we do more together, we really can save thousands of lives.”

WHO recommends 6 evidence-based measures to prevent drowning, including installing barriers controlling access to water; training bystanders in safe rescue and resuscitation; teaching school-aged children basic swimming and water safety skills; providing supervised day care for children; setting and enforcing safe boating, shipping and ferry regulations; and improving flood risk management.

This year, the theme of World Drowning Prevention Day invites the global community to “do one thing” to prevent drowning. Examples of actions that can be taken are as follows:

Individuals can share drowning prevention and water safety advice with their families, friends and colleagues, sign up for swimming or water safety lessons, or support local drowning prevention charities and groups.

Groups can host public events to share water safety information, launch water safety campaigns, or commit to developing or delivering new drowning prevention programmes using recommended best practice interventions.

Governments can develop or announce new drowning prevention policies, strategies, legislation or investment, convene multisectoral roundtables or parliamentary discussions on drowning burden and solutions, and introduce or commit to supporting drowning prevention programming domestically or internationally.
Many countries in the world have committed to drowning prevention programmes.

Bangladesh has started a 3-year program to reduce drowning among children throughout the country. As part of the program, the government will take over the 2 500 daycares established and funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies since 2012, and will expand the program by adding an additional 5 500 daycares to provide supervision to 200 000 children ages 1–5 years.

Mother elopes country with kids from abusive ex-CIO father

A Zimbabwean  mother has resettled in the Republic of Ireland after fleeing an abusive ex-CIO husband and father of her three daughters.

Nelson Choto who was one of former President Robert Gabriel Mugabe’s most trusted personnel and tasked with approving what Mugabe ate, descended into depression after losing his job in the 2017 power shift. He became abusive to his wife at several points the later calling for  separation.

Things got out of hand when their first daughter who was a student at Dominican Convent School became a teenager and active on social media.

A source close to the school alleges Choto would often stalk his daughter’s social media communications coming up with weird conclusions and blaming the school for promoting child promiscuity and homosexuality, a claim the school vehemently denied and distanced themselves from.

Choto, according to the mother’s claim, has hit his daughter on a number of occasions in the presence of the mother and sibling resulting in the mother making desperate move to emigrate out of Zimbabwe in fear of her husband.

“I Attempted Suicide Thrice”: News Anchor

By A Correspondent- Having gone through a number of challenges in my life, including trying to commit suicide, I grew a passion and desire to reach out to other people since 2015.

I developed an aspiration to talk about mental health as I realised my personal experiences were similar, or even better, to what other people were going through.

In 2020, I thought I was ready to go public and talk about mental health. However, it was never easy and I procrastinated till June this year

My name is Vickie Maponga but some call me Vickie Mlilo. I am known by some to be a news anchor for the main news on ZBC television (ZBCtv).

Some two years ago, in commemoration of World Suicide Prevention Day, I was one of the people who were asked to dissuade people against suicide.

That was the first time I said in brief that I tried to commit suicide.

When the advert started running, someone texted me and said they knew I had not tried to commit suicide as I was “only doing it” for television.

That really hurt me!

I realised that is why most people do not reach out and talk about this subject. They do not want to be judged as some people do not take mental health issues seriously. What people see and concentrate on is how a person looks on the outside, we never get to see or care about how a person is on the inside.

If you are not strong on the inside, you will not be strong .

Suicide is a result of unattended mental health issues as there is a lot of stigma around it. The stigma, misunderstanding and labelling is just too much that a lot of people prefer to suffer in silence.

I tried to commit suicide three times.

I lost my child and during that time, I was devastated, depressed and always locked myself in a room. I suffered from anxiety. Losing a child and then failing to conceive for years, causes

anxiety, you get into a deep depression mode.

All these things affect a person’s mental well-being.

You can imagine going into labour to deliver a child you will never get to see and hold. These are some of the wounds that affect our mental wellbeing and some of these wounds do not completely go away, the pain gets better with time but there are days and moments when one just cries.

A lot of people are suffering and trying to make themselves strong but dying on the inside. If you die on the inside, you will eventually die physically because there is no full health without fitness in mental health.

Mental health is an important part of our lives.

It is unfortunate that when we hear about mental health, most of us think about a mad man in the streets. We do not think, know and realise that mental health is a problem anyone faces, and can cause depression, suicidal thoughts and worse still committing suicide.

When a person is going through mental health challenges, all they want is identification.

With cynical depression you lose interest in almost everything that you used to like.

I would spend most of the day sleeping. I was bedridden for a month, the only thing I could do was to wake up then go back to sleep. Sometimes I would stare at the ceiling and start thinking how useless I am, how much of a failure I was.

You are just filled with negativity around you and do not want to see or talk to anyone. I tried to read and the whole day struggled to go through a single sentence.

I found myself crying every single day and moment; tears just flowing. At times you cannot tell why you are crying because your mind will be loaded with issues.

I used to visit the doctor every other day and week as I would be in pain, headaches, everything would be sore. At some point I was checked for breast cancer, heart problems. Everything would be sore but results would come out fine.

At least four doctors took turns to examine me until I was diagnosed and started getting treatment.

Take note, most of these things I am telling you about happened when I was not on TV, not known yet. I am saying this because I wish to break this notion that “celebrities” get into depression too much, “celebrities” are committing suicide.

It is not about “celebrities”, but mental health.

When I tried to commit suicide, back then life was tough all around me

It was only the last time that I confessed to one of my sisters after a couple of months and told her “that time I was throwing up, it wasn’t n’ongo (bile), I had actually drank more than 50 tablets and just covered myself, hoping not to wake up.”

I only told her six months later.

That is the time I just decided; “hey, let me wait for the day that I will die and not try to kill myself anymore but instead make the most with the life that God has given me

Troubleshooting

What we often do not realise is that suicide is not the problem.

Suicide, just like depression and drug abuse, is what is spoken about more. It is what we see but what we do not realise is all these things are just results of mental health issues.

No one plans to be a drug addict.

The reason why most people get into drugs is because they have a problem which they are unable to solve.

They then resort to trying to find solutions to deal with that problem by getting into drugs or alcohol.

Likewise, no one just wakes up and decides to kill themselves. A person may be going through a very difficult moment which he or she feels there is no solution for.

Because of the stigma around mental health, we are losing lives, potential and future leaders since people suffering from mental health issues feel there is no one to understand them.

I have even suffered and was treated for cynical depression and would drink a chunk of tablets every day for several months before I got tired and just stopped taking them.

At that time, I just said, “God; now it has to be you, me and my mind.”

I noticed that everything was in my mind as it (mind) is the master power that molds and makes a person, as a man thinks in his heart so is he.

I believe tablets play their own part when one is suffering depression but to really fight it and win, you need to work on your mind…its mental health.

Depression, suicide, affects everyone!

I have my own definition of mental health. I always say “Mental health is like having a headache, it can be triggered and caused by so many things. But you need to deal with the root cause.”

We have so many problems which people face in life and we can never write all of them down.

We cannot quantify all issues; but people have problems that include financial, marriage, work, employment, family, background issues and school fees etcetera.

If one fails to deal with a problem, does not find coping skills, strategies or mechanisms, we end up seeing people going to the extremes and taking their lives or becoming alcoholics.

Today, I do not speak as a victim. I do not speak as if I am above anyone, but do so as a person who knows that mental health is everywhere, with everyone. It is real and we need to normalise talking about it and break the stigma around it

Latest on ZEP

By A Correspondent- The Government has reaffirmed its commitment to assist thousands of Zimbabwe Exemption Permit (ZEP) holders who are living in South Africa as the 31 December deadline for the expiry of the special permit regime beckons.

An insignificant percentage is reported to have made representations to the Department of Home Affairs on why their permits should be extended, with media reports last week saying about four percent of permit holders have made applications to the South African government. Reports indicate that those who stand a bright chance to have their permits renewed are those in critical skills fields like engineering, science, health, mechanical engineering, Information Communication Technology and Finance, among others.

The expression of commitment comes amid revelations that the Department of Home Affairs in South Africa has started visiting companies and instructing them against hiring undocumented foreigners, while in some instances banks have started to deny permit holders due to expire the opening of accounts.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador James Manzou said while it was true that there has not been movement in terms of the deadline, there was continuous engagement between the two countries.

He advised those facing problems in South Africa before the deadline to approach the Zimbabwean Embassy in that country and get assistance.

“There is constant communication between ourselves and our South African counterparts on the issue of the deadline dates. The recent one being the Foreign Ministries Mid-Term Review Meeting of the third session of the Bi-National Commission between Zimbabwe and South Africa,” he said.

Amb Manzou hinted that they were being apprised on the developments on a day-to-day basis as they were in constant contact with the South African Embassy on various other issues including the developments as the calendar ticks towards the expiry of the permits date.

“As the date gets nearer and nearer towards the expiration of the permits on December 31, we are making engagements. There has not been a change of the dates but we are saying if there are any Zimbabweans that are facing those kinds of challenges, they have to approach the Embassy in South Africa and state their cases so that they get assisted,” said Amb Manzou.

He said the Government was aware of some of the challenges that people were facing and was ready to help if approached through the Embassy.

“Any help that our citizens may need they can get from there. We are ready to assist them if ever they are having problems of any kind. The Embassy in South Africa has been briefed on the situation and the South African Foreign Affairs Ministry has also been briefed on the issue,” he said.

The Zimbabwe Exemption Permit is a special dispensation document that was established more than 10 years ago and it provided legal protection to a number of Zimbabweans who live, work and study in South Africa.

In January this year the South African government decided that the arrangement should be terminated by December and that permit holders should apply for a visa to remain in South Africa on the basis of a list of critical skills.

In June, the Helen Suzman Foundation (HSF) took the government to court for discontinuing the permits, saying that the decision will turn ZEP holders in South Africa into undocumented migrants and force them to return home.

However, in the court papers, Home Affairs director-general Mr Livhuwani Tommy Makhode said the minister had allowed ZEP holders to apply for visas as contemplated by the Immigration Act. Mr Makhode said a decision not to grant further exemptions had not been made. “This is clear from the fact that ZEP holders are entitled to and were invited to make representations as to why their ZEPs should not be terminated and/or why their ZEPs should be extended for a period longer than [the] 12-month extension granted by the minister,” he said.

He said only 6 000 of the approximately 178 000 ZEP holders have taken the opportunity to make representations to the minister. The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) last week quoted the chief executive for the National Employers’ Association of South Africa, Gerhard Papenfus, lamenting the loss of a hard-working workforce.

“It’s very unfortunate because these are very valuable employees in the hospitality sector so business is very unhappy with this arrangement. They work very hard and are very reliable. Losing good employees is very difficult

Zimbabwean, Nigerian National Abducted

By A Correspondent- Suspected bandits have killed one soldier and kidnapped two officials of a farm company in Anchau town, Kabau Local Council of Kaduna state.

The bandits invaded the company around 1:30pm on Wednesday and abducted a Zimbabwean national and a Nigerian.

1.2k Farmers Nabbed Over Failure To Dip Cattle

By A Correspondent- At least 1200 farmers have been arrested this year for not dipping their cattle, a senior government official has disclosed.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services Nick Mangwana says it is a criminal offence for farmers not to dip their cattle.

The Communal Act of Zimbabwe and the Animal Health Act obligate farmers to take their cattle for dipping.

“Failure to do so is a criminal offence.

“This year 1200 farmers have been arrested for not doing so,” he says.

The law is there to protect animals from conditions like January Disease.

Meanwhile, the government is on record saying it will do everything in its power to protect the national herd.

Zimbabwe’s economy is agro-based meaning crops and animal husbandry is key to the country’s prosperity.

Man Threatens To Kill Own Mother For Hiding His Sister He Ra_ped

By A Correspondent- A 51 year-old widow from Ngozi Mine squatter camp in Bulawayo is living in fear of her son who is threatening to kill her for causing his arrest in 2016 after he ra_ped her daughter.

Her son was released from jail in October last year.

Since his release from prison, the 29 year-old has allegedly been pestering his young sister, now in Form 3 to commit incest with him.

At one point, he allegedly thoroughly beat her with dry tree branches after she refused to sleep with him before disappearing, she said

Since then, the widow and her daughter have been receiving death threats from him through text messages.

“There were days when we slept outside the house fearing that he may come and burn down the place as he is behaving like an animal since his release from prison,” she said.

“In 2016, he rap_ed my daughter when she was 11 years old. Then he spent five years there and was released last year in October.”

According to the woman, she has since taken her daughter to a safe house in the neighbouring Cowdray Park suburb.

“My son got furious that the sisters had hidden the little sister from him. When he saw her the next morning, he beat her up using dry tree branches which he had gathered, boxed her and kicked her, threatening to kill her,” she said.

“Now he has been sending threatening messages saying we hid his ‘wife’ from him.

“In one of the texts, he says I must count my days, and I will die and leave his “wife” who is his younger sister.”

“We live in fear with our grandchildren as we don’t know his whereabouts.”

The matter was reported to the police.

The area village head Sithembile Ndlovu-Tshuma confirmed the incident before appealing for assistance.

“He has been threatening saying the young sister must pay and the mother should make a plan. They have sought refuge for the daughter elsewhere but this is not enough. The family needs assistance,” Ndlovu said.

Zimbabweans Abused In the UK

By The Telegraph- A Report by the  Telegraph has discovered that Zimbabwean nurses were being tricked into going to the United Kingdom by unscrupulous middlemen who withhold up to half their wages and force them to live in poverty.

The agencies – often run by Zimbabweans in the UK and unregulated – are reportedly taking advantage of the acute shortages of nursing and care staff across Britain’s hospitals and care homes as well as poor wages in Zimbabwe to lure the health care workers to the UK.

Jim Moyo (not real name), who moved to the UK from Harare in November 2018 to work in a care home in Margate, told Telegraph that exploitation of Zimbabwean health professionals in the UK is rampant. Said Moyo:

When you are working for an agency [in the UK], they pay you 50 per cent of your total salary.

You are getting paid £14 per hour, but then these guys will pay you £7.

He added that, once the tax was deducted, he was left with just £4 per hour for “rent, food and all sorts of expenses”. Said Moyo:

[The agency] tells you: ‘I paid for your accommodation, flights, visa, [I’m] your sponsor’. It’s like a hideous loan.

Hillary Musarurwa, a Zimbabwe-born social scientist in England, said:

Exploitation does not start on arrival [in the UK]. It starts during the application process [in Zimbabwe].

Not only health care workers are leaving Zimbabwe for the UK but also ex-teachers and geologists are retraining for UK care work, according to Joseph Zuze (not real name), a trainee nurse at Mutare Hospital, who plans to emigrate to the UK when he graduates.

The Certificate of Sponsorship (COS) is highly coveted, which has led to it being exploited by middlemen, according to Zimbabweans.

Zuze told Telegraph that he and his wife had been scammed by “agents” who charged $380 to put her on the training waitlist, despite the official Red Cross certification costing just $300.

These agents are not in any way employed, endorsed or contracted by Red Cross Zimbabwe and there is no evidence Red Cross Zimbabwe is aware of them. Said Zuze:

This has created another huge web of corruption; care agencies in the UK, run by Zimbabwe nationals, [are] gifting the COS to their relatives and friends first and anyone else [faces] hefty fees that reach £4,000.

Another Zimbabwe-born nurse working for the NHS in North London claimed that she knew someone in the UK “charging £7,000”.

Taffi Nyawanza, head of immigration at Mezzle Law in Birmingham who is well-known in Zimbabwe’s UK diaspora community, said:

UK law is clear. A recruitment agency cannot charge a fee for ‘placing’ an employee.

The person who ‘assigns’ or prepares and allocates the [COS] must not be related to the prospective employee.

[If] this is the case, the relationship must be fully disclosed to the Home Office.

However regulation of these agencies is weak. The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) suggested that although it is unacceptable that some overseas-based agencies are charging fees to place candidates with jobs in Britain, it cannot do anything about it because the actors are not under UK jurisdiction. Said a spokesperson:

We understand repayment clauses may be used by some organisations to recoup upfront costs if internationally recruited staff do not meet the terms of their contract.

The vast majority of care workers are employed by private sector providers who ultimately set their pay, terms and conditions independent of central government.

However, we would be concerned if repayment costs were disproportionate or punitive.

According to Tich Dauramanzi, a Zimbabwe-born engineer who ran a legitimate care staffing agency in Stoke-on-Trent until 2017, the health care workers are also subject to zero-hours contracts, which means an employer does not guarantee the individual any hours of work. He said:

This is slavery happening in front of our eyes. I strongly believe we are going to have a court case very soon. Most of these employers owe people more money than they can ever pay.

[Recruitment companies] are recruiting a lot of young [Zimbabweans]. For some, this is the first time they have been employed.

Most of them are gripped by the fear factor. They’re told ‘here’s your only chance to come to the UK.

ZEC Chases Away Teachers From Polling Stations

By- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, Saturday chased away teachers recruited as polling officials for the by-election in Gokwe-Kabuyuni.

Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe announced this on Twitter, saying that ZEC accused these teachers of supporting CCC leader Nelson Chamisa.

ARUZ said:
Some teachers in Gokwe who were recruited and trained as polling officials were chased away from their polling stations last night.
The teachers claim that they are accused of supporting Nelson Chamisa and his party CCC.
These teachers do not hold posts in the party and have never campaigned for them.

Mnangagwa Jails 148 Malawians

By- Harare has jailed one hundred and forty-eight (148) Malawian nationals found without legal documents.

The 148 were each sentenced to between four and six months in prison while awaiting deportation by Chivhu and Mvuma magistrates, respectively.

Sixty-five travellers were intercepted by Police in Chivhu, while 83 were arrested in Mvuma.

Chivhu Magistrate Henry Sande sentenced the group of 65 to four months imprisonment, wholly suspended pending deportation.

Prosecutors told the court that on Monday, police officers manning a roadblock at the 141-kilometre peg along Harare-Masvingo Road intercepted 65 Malawians travelling by road.

The foreign nationals were aboard two buses; Boundary with registration number AFQ 5485 and Sarge with registration number JF24GLGP.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers discovered that there were 55 passengers on the Sarge bus and 11 passengers on the other bus.

All 65 passengers were travelling with no valid documents permitting them to enter or remain in Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, 83 Malawians who were intercepted at the 188-kilometre peg along Chivhu–Masvingo road appeared at the Mvuma Magistrates Court, for a similar offence.

The group was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment wholly suspended pending deportation.

Help Treat the Tortured Gokwe ChangeChampion Elder, Hamandishe

By Chris Goshomi | I have just managed to get some details about this unfortunate elder, Christopher Hamandishe, this morning, following requests from some well wishers who wanted to help with his treatment in the @ZLC (Zim Leeds Community) last night. Unfortunately due to the “political sensitivity” of the matter the ZLC administration has decided that the case needs to be coordinated on the ZWB (Zimbabwe Without Borders) platform.

The man has now been taken to Gweru for treatment, and further details will be revealed this afternoon.

The man is from Nembudziya for those who are familiar with Gokwe.

Chris Hamandishe’s burnt leg

There are some people who have already put some donations for his treatment in the following account.
Those who wish to put your little donations, can also use the same account.

ZACC Recovers Paltry USD2mln In 2years

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s anti-corruption fight has been exposed as nothing but hot air following revelations that less than US$2 million out of identified US$7 billion ill-gotten wealth stashed outside the country has been recovered in two years.
Mnangagwa promised a crackdown on corruption after being sworn into office after a coup removed the late former president Robert Mugabe in November 2017.

He said an estimated US$900 million had been externalised outside the country, and gave the alleged culprits a three months grace period to return the stolen proceeds, or face arrest.

In March 2018, he released a list of 1800 alleged looters which included manufactures, miners, small businesses, state-owned entities and even churches including individuals.

In February 2020, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) said it had also identified US$7 billion in cash and properties stashed worldwide by corrupt former and current senior government and Zanu PF officials and other politically connected persons.

The assets were said to be stashed in South Africa, United Kingdom, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Mauritius and Kenya among other countries.

Two years later, the anti-corruption body now says it managed to recover only US$1.5 million in assets, before admitting that it was failing in its ambitious plan to recover US$7 billion of assets it had identified.

“Zacc is in the process of recovering assets from U.A.E, UK and South Africa. Assets from South Africa have been located with a value of approximately US$1.5 million,” Zacc spokesperson John Makamure told The Standard in an emailed response.

“The use of mutual legal assistance tends to take time thereby extending the time frame for investigations. Interpol has been helpful.”

When asked how far Zacc has gone in pursuing prosecutions from the recovered US$1.5 million of assets, Makamure said: “We deal with the civil aspect of Zacc cases. Investigations prefer charges.”

According to Makamure, locally, the anti-corruption body is struggling to trace some of the identified US$20 million assets acquired from proceeds of crime as they have allegedly been hidden.

“Properties are not registered in the subjects’ names so searches tend to elongate the recovery processes,” he said.

“The rise of people buying vehicles on behalf of others thereby registering vehicles in different names makes tracking of vehicles difficult

“Stakeholders are still hesitant to signal corrupt practices especially real estate properties especially where people purchase properties using cash. They tend to ‘protect’ their clients at the loss of the nation.”

The anti-corruption body has been quick to seize assets of ordinary citizens accused of corruption, leaving political bigwigs who have been mentioned in several reports in their involvement in grand corruption.

At some point, the Zacc earned a ‘catch and release’ moniker over its failure to secure convictions or recover alleged stolen assets from bigwigs.

The anti-corruption fight has also assumed factional lines, with politically exposed persons being subjected to arrest.

Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) spokesperson Fadzai Mahere said Mnangagwa’s tenure in office has been characterised by absence of political will to fight corruption.

“From the US$3,5 billion that was looted under command agriculture, the NSSA scandals, Rushwaya’s gold smuggling case, the Zinara episode, the Cottco scandal, Draxgate, Covidgate all the way to the dirty Pomona deal, the last four years have been replete with corrupt deals, elite state capture and a pandemic of looting that have cost the nation over US$2 billion annually,” Mahere said.

“This excludes the over US$100 million lost to gold smuggling every month. The big wigs are repeatedly caught and released with very little done to recover the looted funds or hold those responsible to account.

“The only solution is to vote in our millions for change in 2022 and install ethical leaders who have the political will to fight corrupt and put the welfare of the citizens back at the centre of all decision-making.”

Political analyst Vivid Gwede said there was no political will in the fight against corruption.

“The anti-corruption drive should not be about sound bites or internal Zanu PF fights, but radically returning the country on the visionary path envisaged by those who fought for independence,” Gwede said.

Anti-corruption watchdog, the Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development (Zimcodd) also weighed in doubting the capacity of Zacc to recover stolen assets from abroad.

“We can consider the issue of capacitation to recover the assets, thus are they sufficiently equipped? Do they have the technical know-how to recover and retrieve these external assets?” Zimcodd programs manager John Maketo asked.

“What are the international protocols and regulations for the recovery of such assets? I strongly believe that Zacc does not have the sufficient capacity to follow up on those issues.

“Also there is not enough evidence to show that Zacc has the political will to recover siphoned assets both locally and externally. We have seen numerous examples of catch and release. Hence for Zacc to effectively deal with corruption there is need for capacitation and political will.”

Reports indicate that corrupt gangs within and outside the government are creaming off assets worth billions of dollars annually from the country. Standard

Mnangagwa Solidarity March Hits Snag

By- A pro-President Emmerson Mnangagwa march planned for this weekend has flopped.

Organisers of the march under the banner MenBelieveED fronted by one Justice Matsatsira, said they have moved the march to an unspecified date.

Matsatsira told NewsDay that they postponed the march to pave the way for the weekend by-elections set for the Gokwe-Kabuyani constituency on Saturday.

The seat fell vacant following the death of Zanu PF legislator Leonard Chikomba.

 Matsatsira said:

Those people who think that this march will not succeed are daydreaming. I have been supporting Mnangagwa since way back. We are a big thing, we have been encouraging our members to register to vote and our database is growing.

We have the numbers and we also have the support of the Zanu PF party. We have the resources. We will never fail because we have the resources. We were empowered by the new dispensation.

He said they plan to bus an estimated 10 000 people per province to Harare for the march.

In 2016, the Zanu PF youth league organised a “One Million Men March” in solidarity with the late President Robert Mugabe in a bid to extend his rule despite calls for him to step down.

President Chamisa Exposes Perpetrators Of Violence

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC leader, President Nelson Chamisa, has challenged Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa to stop abusing holy places.

Mr Mnangagwa has a penchant for speaking at church gatherings.

On Thursday he seized an apostolic sect gathering.

Addressing a media briefing in Harare on Friday, President Chamisa accused Mr Mnangagwa of blasphemy.

He also challenged the regime to stop abusing traditional leaders.

” Our chiefs are in trouble, our kraal heads are in trouble…

The level of violence is shocking. On Thursday we were attacked by men with guns .

All the same change is unstoppable. We salute the people of Gokwe for refusing to be intimidated by the regime.

To our surprise, July Moyo and Larry Mavhima were directing police operations,” said President Chamisa.

CHURCH IS FOR WORSHIP NOT POLITICAL CAMPAIGNING ..Politicians must desist from defiling places of worship and prayer by bringing contaminating toxicity and politics…turning holy ground into hunting ground for votes and political advocacy & canvassing.

All politicians who visit church gatherings for political grandstanding should sincerely introspect and check if they are in their lane. Let’s go to church to worship and praise God Almighty and seek God’s blessings rather than turn Church gatherings into political rallies.

Man Arrested For Spending 7mln Deposited Into Own Account

A Bulawayo businessman allegedly took $7 million erroneously deposited into his account by AutoWorld Bulawayo and allegedly spent it on his and his wife’s upmarket lifestyle and building their dream home, a court has heard. Accused number one in this case is a company called Galdras Investments trading as Clear Waters Auto which is located at Number 124A along Jason Moyo Street between 12th and 13th Avenue in Bulawayo while accused number two is Zororo Mhondiwa (40) who resides at number 654 Emakhandeni in Bulawayo and is the company’s director.

Appearing before regional magistrate Mr Mark Dzira, Mhondiwa and his company were charged with theft.

According to the State, represented by Acumen Khuphe, on 6 April, AutoWorld’s accounts clerk, Ms Tsitsi Diana Samuriwo received requisitions from the company’s departments with invoices attached. Among the invoices was Clear Waters Auto’s invoice which had an amount of ZWL$33 250 worth of car parts to be paid.

Ms Samuriwo then initiated an online transfer of $33 250 which was to be paid from AutoWorld’s Cabs bank account into Clear Waters Auto’s Agribank account number. She was also supposed to transfer a total of $7 million into her company Head Office’s Cabs Bank account, but instead, erroneously captured Clear Waters Auto’s Agribank account as the account to be credited.

After having initiated the above stated online transfers, Ms Samuriwo sought authority from the complainant’s finance manager, Carmen Green who granted and made the payments into the two accounts. Clear Waters Auto’s Agribank bank account was credited with both $33 250 which was due to the company and $7 million which was not due to them.

Proof of payment, both complainant and accused’s bank statement indicating the amount transferred and received into accused’s account “maybe produced before the court as evidence.”

On the same date, Mhondiwa being a signatory of Clear Waters Auto’s account started withdrawing and using the $7 million despite knowing that the money was not due to his company. Clear Waters Auto’s bank statement indicates that the $7 million was received into the account and how it was used.

The error came to light on 20 May, when Ms Samuriwo was conducting parts reconciliation with the AutoWorld Head Office in Harare, she discovered that there was no payment of $7 million made to the head office. After careful inspection of the proof of payments made, she discovered that the money had been transferred into Clear Waters Auto’s account. She then informed AutoWorld’s representative who contacted Mhondiwa requesting him to return the money.

On 23 May, Mhondiwa allegedly returned back to AutoWorld’s account a total of $1 million instead of the $7 million he had erroneously received. There is proof of payment of the $1 million transferred by the accused into AutoWorld. As a result of the accused’s actions, the complainant has suffered an actual prejudice of $6 million as only $1 million out of $7 million was recovered.

The matter was reported to Criminal Investigation’s Department (CID) Cyber Crime Division who quickly made the arrest after their investigations into the matter. Meanwhile, the accused will appear in court again on 7 September when Mr Dzira is expected to issue his judgement on Mhondiwa’s application for discharge. -Chronicle

The Parent’s Agony When A Child Gets Sick In Diaspora

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | I sat in bed with my 13 year-old son, he looked up at me through tears and asked, “Do you think my brother will have a long life or a short life?”

It was a big question from a little boy, but not an unexpected one.

Queens Medical Centre

‘A Deep and Hollowing Pain ran through my spine. It was very difficult to think. My son was lying in hospital with some heart ailment. All sorts of thoughts blind your mind. For the first time you feel a strong force sucking your faith away. The child poses questions which are so difficult to answer.

These are times you as a parent would want God to come down and talk to you. Why becomes a question which haunts you but it cuts through your ears like a hot knife slicing through a lump of butter. Your confidence is utterly battered. Your pride is wounded.

This is the time you realise that you are useless and helpless. Those you have considered as friends wax away. One by one they distance themselves from you. It is hard for parents to share Stories of Caring for a Sick Child.
The child looks into your eyes and boldly say we are not praying today me and God are not talking.

All of a sudden you slip into the grim and frequently heart-breaking reality of child’s sickness. This sharply opens a window on the reaction of a surprisingly tender world of close families and devoted family members who quickly drop the veil and show you how important some people are. Parents have always had a deep-seated desire to look after their offspring to see them live a pain free life. Faced with the desperate reality of a child falling ill, the niceties of gender or manly behaviour perhaps ceased to matter. You are exposed to the inner self and it is at this time when you embrace the weaker you inside you. This is the time you shed a tear. Yes men sometimes do cry. It is human to cry to God and demand to see God’s hand
It is terrifying for all of us. For a mother the panic is palpable. Her heart would race. She would sob and sweat and look at me desperately for reassurance that her son was not going to stop breathing and die. She is seeking assurance from a man who is looking for the same assurance too.

After my son was got sick people often told me, “he will be all right,” and while I understood the sentiment, I found it an immense oversimplification. The path to “all right” would undoubtedly be long, winding and, ultimately, up to God.

Life for a sick child has often been depicted as a pretty miserable experience, characterised by pain physical hardship, and aloof and strict medical regime. It is as well his time and his God.

In the hospital ward you read grief in all corners of the room, it also brings to life often heart-rending moments when you sit helplessly at the child’s bedside, and your child will be trying to keep your spirits up even as he struggled for breath.
This sombre moment provides an unusual level of insight into what life is like at the time, especially for children who are in pain and locked in a ward.
This the time you take time to understand more about society’s attitudes to children, and how doctors and laypeople approached the task of treating them. I remember taking the call from a doctor, and hearing him say, ‘This is bad, it’s really bad. I began to shake uncontrollably and had to steady myself by holding on to the hospital counter. I felt as though I might fall over and not be able to stand up again.”More questions gash in Why? Why him and not me? I have lived, he is just beginning his life-no matter how old he might be a child is a child.

I then remembered that sickness isn’t a problem that needs fixing because you can not fix it. I’m always trying to help others understand that sickness is not pathology. It needs a natural response to a hard situation, and it’s rooted in your love for your person. and the love of others. My son’s sickness is a part of reality — I can’t change that. Instead, I will try my hardest to bear witness to his suffering. It won’t be perfect. I won’t always get it right, but we’ll do it together.
We always believe that the reality may often have been quite the opposite, however.”I am not able to say one word more, but at this time there is not a creature in the world which has not gone through sickness
The experience of child sickness also appears to have brought out the close bonds between family members and blurred gender distinctions. Mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, grandfathers and grandmothers all turn up in the historical record coming to each other’s aid. By faith I believe that the treatments ‘delivered’ the boy of his infestation, so that when he is visited two years later, he would tell you he had never been troubled with it since.
Always in the midst of all these fake friends show no remorse. Never worry about them God is always in control.
It is at that time that you see him walk out of the hospital room. His mind set for home.
Then Jeremiah said “For How Long’
“Righteous art thou, O LORD, when I plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments: Wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? wherefore are all they happy that deal very treacherously? Thou hast planted them, yea, they have taken root: they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit: thou art near in their mouth, and far from their reins. But thou, O LORD, knowest me: thou hast seen me, and tried mine heart toward thee: pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.

How long shall the land mourn, and the herbs of every field wither, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein? the beasts are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our last end.”

Memory Text: “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I say, rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4, NKJV).

INTRODUCTION.

It’s always easy to shout with joy to the Lord when we feel joy. It’s not so easy, however, when things are bad, when we are in the worst situations imaginable, when the crucible heats up. Yet, it’s precisely then that we need—perhaps more than ever—to praise God, for praise is a means of helping us sustain faith.

Indeed, praise can transform even our darkest circumstances, maybe not in the sense of changing the facts around us, but in the sense that it can change us, and those around us, in a way that helps us face challenges.

Praise is faith in action. It may not always be natural to us, but when we practice praise so that it becomes a natural part of our lives, it has the power both to convert and to conquer.

SABBATH: Faith is praising God even in the storm. Your attitude & gratitude determines your altitude. While it’s easy to be joyful when all is well & hard to praise God when life is hard, He has done much for us already to deserve our praise. When the crucible heats up, God is needed more than ever. When you focus on the storm, you remain in it. But when you praise God in the storm, He takes you out of it.

SUNDAY: “Believe to the end, even if all men go astray… praise God in your loneliness”; the words of the Russian writer, Fyodor Dostoevsky, who was death sentenced & at the last moment had his verdict cut to just a prison time. Paul was not depressed in prison but wrote about the need to rejoice always. Times may not be good or we may not feel like rejoicing, but praising God is an act of faith (Phil. 4:4-7).

MONDAY: “To be painted into a corner” is a scenario where you paint a floor & find yourself in a corner such that you cannot get out unless you walk over the fresh paint. In life, our faith like the wet paint traps us at times. We either reject our faith (God) or it compel us to believe in the impossible. The Israelites were cornered by God but He did not forsake them (Josh. 5:13-6:20, Ps. 66:1, 2, Heb. 11:30).

TUESDAY: Praising God even in good times may seem unnatural. How much more hard to do it in bad times? (Ps. 145). Praise till it becomes an ambience you live in. C. Spurgeon wrote a book, “The Practice of Praise”, on Ps. 145:7 to show 3 things to aid in praise; 1. We see God is great when we look around us 2. We praise God when we recall what we have seen & 3. Praise is practiced as we talk of it.

WEDNESDAY: Godly praise has the power to both convert & conquer. Stripped & beaten, Paul & Silas still rejoiced (Acts 16:16-34). Bound in chains, the duo praised God in the darkness of the inner prison. The other inmates listened to them as they prayed & sung (vs 29). After the earth tremor, no prisoner had escaped. The jailer asked Paul & Silas what he ought to do for him to be saved (see Phil. 1:29, 30).

THURSDAY: A singular method of fighting an enemy is by praising God. Jehoshaphat discovered this & subscribed to it. When enemies encamped Judah at all sides, he did not rely on trained armies or fenced cities but God. Their battle song was praising & exalting God & they were able to conquer their foes with God (2 Chron. 20:1-30). Though God was going to fight for them, they still had to face the foe.

FRIDAY: “Let us educate our hearts & mood to speak of the praise of God for His matchless love. Let us educate our souls to be hopeful & abide in the light shining from the cross of Calvary.” We should not forget that we’re God’s children. We should have faith in Him even in the storm. Magnify God’s name. Praise Him even when you fall into darkness & even in temptation. Rejoice always, again I say rejoice!

—Ellen G. White, “Jehoshaphat,” pp. 190–203, in Prophets and Kings; “The Fall of Jericho,” pp. 487–498, in Patriarchs and Prophets & Testimonies for the Church, vol. 2, pp. 593, 594.

Keywords

God can bring you to Jericho/Red Sea- This expression means that God can lead you into difficult situations to build your faith in Him. He’s always there to save us if we hope in Him.

The “shout” at Jericho- When God called the Israelites to “shout,” it was the same type of shouting that David writes about in Psalm 66.

Fyodor Dostoevsky’s quote- “Believe to the end, even if all men go astray and you are left
the only one faithful; bring your offering even then and praise God in your loneliness.”

Gun-Wielding Zanu PF Agents Attack President Chamisa Motorcade

ZANU PF Gokwe members Armed with AK-47 guns disrupt President Chamisa’s by election campaign rally in Gokwe- Kubuyini yesterday

As Zanu PF members beat and injured four journalists and blocked President Chamisa’s convoy

26 August 2022

Wezhira Munya

Fear of by election defeat caused Zanu PF to unleash violence in Gokwe. Gokwe was turned into war zone yesterday as Zanu PF thugs beat CCC supporters and journalists.

Yesterday, the Zanu PF satanic forces manifested in Gokwe as Zanu PF members with AK-47 guns, machetes and other weapons beat and injured four journalists who were covering President Chamisa’s rally in Gokwe yesterday.

ZimLive reported that, “4 Zimbabwe journalists were beaten and forced to delete their footage by the ruling Zanu PF supporters in Zimbabwe. The journalists are: Chelsea Mushayambire, Pellagia Mpurwa, Tongai Mwenje and Teneo Rutsio.”

In addition, the journalists cars were badly damaged by Zanu PF thugs.

After beating journalists, Zanu PF thugs blocked President Chamisa’s motorcade from accessing the rally venue.

However, the intelligent President Chamisa had to use another way to reach the rally venue and addressed fearless Citizens Coalition for Change supporters.

Interestingly, the police could not stop Zanu PF thugs from blocking the roads.

CCC national organizer Hon Amos Chibaya said, the police cleared CCC rally but are not protecting us.

Before President Chamisa arrived at the rally, Zanu PF officials in Gokwe launched a high speed chase with President Chamisa’s motorcade for 45 kms in the dusty road. Zanu PF members wanted to beat or even kill President Chamisa in Gokwe. However, President Chamisa’s well trained security outpaced Zanu PF members.

Zanu PF had 29 cars chasing President Chamisa’s convoy.

CCC spokesperson advocate Fadzai Mahere writes on her twitter said, “These Zanu PF official cars launched a high speed chase against President Chamisa’s convoy. The thugs were armed and stoned our vehicles. They are running scared but we haven’t even started yet! This is pre-game warm up and they are already sweating.”

In addition, CCC member in Gokwe Mr Zhou said, “We have received reports that Zanu PF Midlands Provincial Chairperson Larry Mavhima and Zanu PF minister of Local Government July Moyo were coordinating the orgy of violence in Gokwe today. Zanu PF thugs were using over 29 cars and armed with AK-47s guns and other weapons were involved in a high speed chase against President Chamisa’s convoy.”

Gokwe is in Midlands province is where Zanu PF president Mnangagwa comes from. CCC supporter Mr Ncube was killed and other CCC supporters were injured at CCC Kwekwe, Midlands by election campaign rally in March 2022 by Zanu PF thugs.

Commenting on the violence against CCC in Gokwe yesterday, former Zanu PF member Dr Walter Muzembi writes on his Twitter , “Zanu PF is not responding to your (CCC) pacifist strategy, they are war mongers. You need to RESET,
77 X 7 doesn’t work with thugs, you give them the ‘other cheek they will still clap you! By year end rural areas will be no go areas, this is not politics it’s war.”

Dr Muzembi further explained and projected that, “After Zanu PF October congress , No rural area will be accessible to “CCC” opposition, infact there will be a competition of sorts on whose District is a No Go Area and politically impenetrable. Read Signs , when this party (Zanu PF) faces defeat it’s Default mode is violence.”

The above analysis by Dr Muzembi and events in Gokwe resonate well with 2008 Zanu PF violence and Gukurahundi.

Interestingly, CCC members in Gokwe yesterday were not intimidated by Zanu PF violence as they attended the rally. The situation was tense, as heavily armed riot police came at the rally venue to maintain peace. President Chamisa addressed the rally. President Chamisa encouraged Gokwe citizens to vote for CCC candidate Mr Constin Muguti during by election on Saturday 3rd August 2022.

There is a by election in Gokwe -Kubuyini after the death of Zanu PF member of Parliament Leonard Chikomba in road accident in May 2022.

The by election in Gokwe will be the battle between CCC candidate Mr Costin Muguti and Zanu PF candidate Spencer Tshuma.

Costin Muguti represented MDC Alliance under President Chamisa in 2008 as member of Parliament won against the late Zanu PF member Leonard Chikomba. Costin Muguti had 7 234 votes and Zanu PF Chikomba had 7 156 votes in 2008.

Because of CCC candidate Muguti’s popularity , Zanu PF has resorted to violence. Zanu PF is afraid of free and fair elections. The newly born party CCC has been winning majority of council and parliamentary seats during by elections.

The unpopular and “zerorized” MDC T (Alliance) under Mwonzora has failed to field candidate to contest Gokwe-Kubuyini by election on 27th August 2022. In Gokwe, MDC T under Mwonzora does not have structures and members.

Under President Chamisa , CCC has been winning in once perceive Zanu PF rural areas.

This victory has caused Zanu PF to be at six and sevens.

President Chamisa commented on the fearlessness of Gokwe citizens on his Twitter , “Gokwe humbled me. They waited and braved all intimidation and violence by Zanu PF today.”

The “structureless” party CCC through it’s Mugwazo concept that it is using to recruit and mobilise it’s support based is causing headaches among Zanu PF. This winning strategy is a game changer.

Government Running Country Like School Tuckshop

Tinashe Sambiri|Vibrant pressure group, Communities in Action Platform (CAP), has challenged the government to stop running the country’s economic affairs like a school tuckshop.

According to CAP, millions across the country are suffering due to rapid economic deterioration.

See CAP statement :

COMMUNITIES IN ACTION PLATFORM (CAP) POSITION ON THE STATE OF THE ECONOMY AND HOW IT IS AFFECTING LOW INCOME FAMILIES AND ZIMBABWE AT LARGE

As a community based movement that operates in rural and marginalized areas, the Communities In Action Platform (CAP) has noted the seriously deteriorating state of the economy in the country and specifically within the rural and marginalized communities and by extension the rest of the country. The socio-economic fabric of the country is being torn and ravaged due to a plethora of unsound economic policies bordering on fascism meant to benefit a few and disadvantage the majority, the economic structure of rural and marginalized communities has been relegated to the stone age together with standards of living and basic survival has given rise to a sense of hopelessness and facilitated extreme and chronic poverty whilst the means of production have been colonised by a greedy cabal that has organized itself into cartels of destruction and facilitators of misery.

The Zimbabwean Mines and Minerals Act of 1961 has seriously contributed to the corruption and politicisation of the sector as it benefits only the political elites and even the Mines and Minerals Amendment Bill of 2015 failed to address the glaring inconsistencies.

The Total Consumption Poverty Line (TCPL) for the month of July stood at 23 479rtgs per person whereas an ordinary Zimbabwean teacher receives a monthly salary of 45 000rtgs per month and juxtaposing this with the high levels of unemployment and inflation rate which is the highest in the world at 595%/year is a recipe for disaster. To put this into perspective it is fundamental to understand a few statistics: poverty affects 76,3% of Zimbabwean children living in rural areas, half of Zimbabwe’s population live below the food poverty line and about 3,5 million children in Zimbabwe are chronically hungry.

The social service and humanitarian aspect is in disarray, about 69% of rural Zimbabwean women face period poverty in that they lack access to menstrual supplies or education and girls who experience period poverty miss an estimated 20% of their school life hence debunking the myth of, “LEAVING NO ONE BEHIND.”

The government has chosen to major on the minor such as the unwise decision to introduce gold coins as to stabilise the rtgs currency which in all aspects is an elitist measure that has so far failed to bring about any meaningful change but only glorified propaganda in state media.

The government should be focusing on providing proper solutions to this rising national crisis whose ripple effects are being felt everywhere, CAP has noted such a calamity and stands to remind the responsible authority of their constitutional mandate.

CAP calls upon the government to seriously interrogate its approach in fixing the national economic crisis by including the views of all stakeholders, to equitably distribute national resources such as precious minerals without giving monopoly to a few individuals with ties to the government.

CAP also demands that the government adopts the use of the USD denomination so as to rescue the economy from the catastrophic consequences of blindly adopting the Zimbabwe RTGS
The command policy of attempting to command an economy into submission is akin to squeezing water out of a stone, failure to put corrective measures into practice that will drive the country of the current economic quagmire. This will result in CAP mobilizing communities to demonstrate against the bad elements of governance and against poverty for the power to govern is derived not from plush offices but it is derived from the people. The sensible thing a reasonable government can do is to improve and make better the standards of living for people through ending poverty and bringing the economy back on track

….. Zimbabwe cannot continue to operate as if it is on autopilot and the economy cannot continue to be run like a school tuck-shop, it is irresponsible to disregard the suffering of millions of people, change can be slow and ponderous and at times tiresome but when thing come to a head it can be sudden and cataclysmic and things are coming to a head.

Auxilia Mnangagwa Torments Journalists

By- Security details guarding the first lady Auxilia Mnangagwa have chucked out a group of Bulawayo-based journalists covering the celebration of the city’s centenarian residents.

Auxilia was officiating at the event held at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair on Thursday.

ZimLive.com reports that it turned out those who were permitted to cover the function were Harare-based ZBC and Herald journalists who now form her entourage.

Journalists based in Bulawayo were initially allowed to cover a march from the City Hall to the ZITF before the first lady arrived.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a journalist said Mnangagwa’s security was very open in its position that only journalists assigned to cover the first lady were the only ones welcome. ZimLive.com cites the journalist as saying:

The boys in suits surrounded one photographer who was taking pictures and asked him what he was doing. They told him that the first lady has her own team.

They then approached the Provincial Information Officer and instructed him to get all the Bulawayo-based journalist out of the venue which he did.

This is a Bulawayo event and the centenarians being celebrated are our people from the city. Since we were denied the opportunity to cover them, our listeners have been denied the right to hear about this event

Journalists who were barred from the event also felt mistreated by the first lady’s communications team which failed to inform them beforehand that they were not welcome.

The event to celebrate and honour the city`s senior citizens who are 100 years and above was organised by the SPA Community Trust in conjunction with various organisations which include the Bulawayo City Council.

Last week the same happened in Marondera, where Auxilia’s photographer, John Madzongo, chased private media journalists from a Prison event.

The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zimbabwe has reminded authorities to allow all journalists to enjoy their constitutionally-guaranteed rights of access to information of public interest.

The picture indicates that the elderly man and the young woman are madly in love.

However, the big question is : does age difference affect the marriage bond?

Kaizer Chiefs Coach Defends Billiat

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane is not worried about Khama Billiat’s slow start to the 2022/23 season.

Billiat has struggled to hit top form and faced criticism from the club’s fans. The Zimbabwean is yet to get on the score sheet and has one assist after five games.

When asked about the performance of the former Warriors midfielder and Keagan Dolly, who is also struggling, in a presser on Thursday, Zwane said it’s too early to start judging them.

“I’m not really concerned,” he said.

“I’ll tell you why I’m not concerned. It’s still early in the season. We can only judge in the middle of the season. It might be a case of a slow start, but at the end of the day, we still need them.

“They’re still key players. We need them on the field. Last season they played a crucial role in helping us collect maximum points in certain games, so we can’t judge them based on what is happening. I know they will come back.

“Any player can lose form. Two or three games doesn’t mean the player is not good enough to play for Kaizer Chiefs.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Facts About Drowning

Family Torn As Livingstone Sunhwa’s Inconclusive DNA Results Are Released

By A Correspondent- The family of the missing St Matthias Tsonzo High School Form Four pupil Livingstone Sunhwa will have to wait a bit longer to find closure after the eagerly awaited Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) tests on his presumed remains came back inconclusive.

DNA testing is said to be inconclusive when it fails to produce information that allows an individual to be either included or excluded as the source of the biological evidence.

As a result, additional tests are now set to be conducted on teeth that were found in a forest to establish whether the remains are Livingstone’s or not.

Blood samples were collected from Livingstone’s mother, Selina Tadya and sister Pride Sunhwa, together with part of the skeletal remains, for DNA testing.

According to The Manica Post, a meeting involving Tadya, investigators and the DNA testing service providers was held in Mutare last week on Friday, with the inconclusive results being presented there.

Tadya confirmed the meeting to the publication saying that if further tests are inconclusive, the family will not give up its quest for closure. Said Tadya:

We are at a dead end, nothing is moving for seven weeks since the discovery of the remains. No concrete answer could be reached with the collected samples.

They told us that the samples did not yield enough DNA, hence there was no conclusive answer.

It will drag on because they have collected additional samples, the teeth, which they say can also be a reliable source of DNA in post-mortem testing.

They explained the challenges they are facing, but due to the gravity of this case, they said they cannot declare inconclusive results, hence the need for another round of trials with additional samples.

This means waiting for another 21 days. If they fail to come up with conclusive results within 21 days, they will then recommend that the samples be sent for further testing either in South Africa or Botswana where there is more advanced technology.

Their main argument is that the remains were exposed to the rain and the sun for a very long time such that DNA was eroded.

However, from my side they did not collect additional samples as the ones initially collected are still valid.

Tadya, a widow who was working in South Africa before she rushed home following his son’s disappearance, said her life is in limbo. She said:

It is painful and it’s straining me, my life is on hold. I can’t do anything. I cannot go back to work in South Africa. I am just seated at home with no money, yet everything is demanding money.

Soon schools will be open, I need to raise school fees for Livingstone’s sister. Where will I get the school fees when I am not working as I wait for the DNA test results? We desperately need conclusive results to bring closure to this case.

It hurts us as a family because we are still mourning and we do not know when the mourning will end. We are not at peace.

We can only be at peace after ascertaining whether those are his remains or not and accord Livingstone a befitting burial. What we are going through is awful and devastating.

Livingstone (19) disappeared from St Matthias Tsonzo High School in Mutasa on 6 December and is yet to be accounted for.

Prior to his disappearance, had been arrested on theft charges but was allegedly released as he was due to sit for his English final exam paper.

He never showed up for the examination and has been missing ever since then.

“New ZEC Fees A Blow To Democracy”: UZA

Elisabeth Valerio

Press Statement

20 August 2022

UZA notes with concern the recently gazetted unrealistically high fees on candidate nomination, voters roll inspection and election observation.

According to a statutory instrument 144 of 2022 which amended SI 153 of 2014, ZEC announced that for a political party to field a presidential candidate, it now costs US$20 000 up from US$1 000, US$1 000 from US$50 and US$200 for senators and councillors from US$100.

Our party believes that ZEC is a Constitutional body whose mandate should be to uphold Constitutional provisions including provisions of the Electoral Act which guarantee political players and citizens the right to participate freely in the country’s democratic processes.

The ZEC functions must ensure that citizens have access to the voters’ roll and all the relevant material that support and aid a transparent, free and fair election.

It is a dark day for democracy considering that the new fees gazetted by ZEC are designed to disenfranchise the poor, young people, the elderly and independent candidates.

Such fees are segregatory as they will shut out the majority of voters from inspecting the voters roll and accessing it.

Such a development is fertile ground for a disputed electoral process and even taints the credibility of the elections body.

Besides disenfranchising prospective political players, the fees will also increase voter apathy especially among youths, women, people living with disability and the elderly.

Section 1: 3 (d) (ii) of the Electoral Act which speaks to constitutional provisions guarantees every political actor the right to reasonable access to all material and information necessary for him or her to participate effectively in the election process.

The Act also states that citizens and political players have a right to inspect and access copies of the voters roll .

“Every voters roll and every consolidated roll referred to in Section 20 (4a) shall be a public document and open to inspection by the public free of charge during ordinary office hours at the office of the Commission or the registration office where it is kept.

The Act also guarantees citizens that the fees prescribed for the purposes of subsection 3 or 4 shall not exceed the reasonable cost of providing the voters roll concerned.

Our party is appalled that the ZEC has gazetted such fees at a time when citizens are struggling to make ends meet.

This will make the elections process a preserve of an elite few thus defeating and violating the Constitution.

What justification does the ZEC have for such an exorbitant increase for one to access the voters roll or participate in elections?

It is equally sad that ZEC is pegging these fees in United States dollars at a time when high tanking government officials were quoted verbatim claiming that our local currency in the strongest in the region.

Democracy should be inclusive and should be for everyone and not a privileged few.

UZA is calling on ZEC to review these fees downwards and make democracy accessible and inclusive.

Every Zimbabwean has a right to participate in elections as guaranteed in the country’s supreme law- the Constitution.

The Parents Agony When A Child Gets Sick In Diaspora

By Dr Masimba Mavaza- I sat in bed with my 13 year-old son, he looked up at me through tears and asked, “Do you think my brother will have a long life or a short life?”

It was a big question from a little boy, but not an unexpected one.

Then Jeremiah said “For How Long’
“Righteous art thou, O LORD, when I plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments:

Wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? wherefore are all they happy that deal very treacherously? Thou hast planted them, yea, they have taken root: they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit: thou art near in their mouth, and far from their reins.

But thou, O LORD, knowest me: thou hast seen me, and tried mine heart toward thee: pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.

How long shall the land mourn, and the herbs of every field wither, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein? the beasts are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our last end.”

VID Boss Caught With Business Tycoon’s Wife

A MAN, believed to be a Vehicle Inspectorate Department (VID) official, was severely bashed for allegedly dating the wife of a prominent Harare businessman.

In a video circulating on social media, the man is seen bleeding from the mouth and being hit by unidentified men.

The victim has been identified as Dzikamai Musiza.

Although the area could not be established, the man was seated on a couch, surrounded by five people, and being ordered to apologise to the businessman (name withheld) for dating his wife.

He pleaded with them to forgive him and to stop the savage attack.

“Taura kuti urikukumbira ruregerero rwei? Taura kuti wakanyenga amaiguru,” a male voice is heard saying. Police are on record discouraging people from pursuing mob justice.- H-Metro

“No Compromise”: ZUJ Condemns Journalists Attacks

Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) has condemned the recent brutal attack of four Techmag TV crew members by suspected ZANU PF members while filming ZANU PF and CCC  rallies that were held 800 metres apart in Gokwe.

In a statement on Friday, 26 August, ZUJ urged the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to bring the perpetrators to book as this “will send a loud and clear message to all merchants of violence” that violence has consequences. ZUJ said:

ZUJ condemns the recent attack by alleged ZANU PF supporters of four Techmag TV crew members for filming activities at competing ruling ZANU PF and opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) campaign rallies in Gokwe.

The four, comprising Toneo Rutsito, Tongai Mwenje, Pellagia Mpurwa and Chelsea Mashayambire, were allegedly beaten by at least 12 suspected ruling party activists for filming the party’s campaign activities that were being held adjacent to those of the CCC.

The two rallies were reportedly held about 800 metres apart. The four Techmag crew have since filed a police report (RRB Number 5075126) at Chitekete Police Station in Gokwe.

The heinous attack-which saw Rutsito reportedly losing a tooth and Mwenje sustaining a deep gash on the forehead-goes against the spirit of promoting freedom of the media in the country.

Journalists/media workers should be allowed to do their work without having to fear for their safety.

The security of journalists is a constitutional issue and should always be guaranteed by both political actors and government security agencies.

ZUJ, therefore, calls upon the police to thoroughly investigate the alleged assault of the journalists in Gokwe and bring the culprits to book in what the Union hopes will send a loud and clear message to all merchants of violence that freedom of the media should be upheld always and everywhere. There should be no compromise.

Zanu Pf “Dumps” Wadyajena

By A Correspondent- Zanu-PF yesterday expressed fears that Gokwe-Nembudziya legislator Justice Mayor Wadyajena’s US$5,8 million fraud charge may cost the ruling party dearly in today’s by-election set for Gokwe-Kabuyuni.

The seat fell vacant after the death of Zanu-PF legislator Leonard Chikomba in a car accident.

Zanu-PF and the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) have emerged as frontrunners in the by-election.

Addressing a Press conference in the capital yesterday, Zanu-PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa indirectly threw Wadyajena under the bus and said the fraud case had a bearing on the vote outcome.

Wadyajena faces fraud and money-laundering charges involving US$5,8 million.

He is charged alongside his accomplices, Cotton Company of Zimbabwe (Cottco) managing director Pious Manamike, marketing manager Maxmore Njanji, Fortunate Molai also of Cottco and Chiedza Danha, director for Pierpont Moncroix Mauritius.

They were granted $200 000 bail each last week and remanded to September 8, 2022.

“… always accepting some of the shortcomings and correcting them like what’s happening now in Cottco is what the government is working on and it has a bearing on voters, especially in that area. We need Cottco to be properly run as a business entity so that people who farm are paid in time and their money doesn’t depreciate,” Mutsvangwa said.

“Our teams are busy on the ground. The politburo appealed to the people in Gokwe to campaign and vote quietly. We want the people of Kabuyuni to vote peacefully and decide who they want to represent them.”

Meanwhile, divisions have rocked the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) amid reports of attempts to tamper with evidence implicating Wadyajena.

Internal fights within Zacc reportedly forced the anti-corruption entity to make a U-turn in its earlier public alert that was posted on its Twitter handle, where it was claiming that evidence against Wadyajena was overwhelming.

In a statement posted on Twitter, Zacc had implored the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe to do “justice” to the case.

The tweet was immediately deleted and reposted several times since being initially posted on Thursday afternoon, before it was permanently deleted yesterday.

Zacc insiders told NewsDay Weekender that there were divided opinions on how to deal with Wadyajena’s case amid claims that some “outsiders within government” were plotting to tamper with the evidence against the youthful legislator.

“Some senior government officials gave a directive for Zacc to alert the public on the need for Wadyajena to face the wrath of the law, a decision challenged by others,” a source within Zacc said on condition of anonymity.

Zacc spokesperson John Makamure unwittingly confirmed the infighting on Thursday night saying an individual within the organisation had posted the statement without authorisation from superiors.

“This is an internal matter which needs not to be publicised. Whoever uploaded the statement on our Twitter handle did so without authority from the superiors. The statement does not represent the position of Zacc as an institution,” Makamure said then.

Efforts to get a comment from him yesterday were in vain as he was not picking calls.

Zacc chairperson Justice Loice Matanda-Moyo said she was at a funeral when NewsDay Weekender contacted her for comment.

Zan”I am at a funeral,” she said. “You can call me later.”

MP Calls For VIP Prisons

By A Correspondent- Legislators have demanded for a VIP section at prisons and correctional facilities complete with good gyms so that they do not suffer from stress and mix with common criminals.

This was suggested in the National Assembly by Norton legislator Temba Mliswa (Independent) while contributing to a debate on the supplementary budget.

“I am kindly asking you to supplement money for jails, especially in the VIP section. There is too much corruption, so we want a section done so that the VIP members do not mix with the general public,” Mliswa said.

“May you please increase money for rehabilitation of jails because I am foreseeing a lot of them (VIPs) going to those jails? May you please build VIP jails with good gyms and other facilities for them so that they do not mix and mingle with those who will have committed crimes like armed robberies and murder and they will not get stressed.”

Matabeleland South Proportional Representative MP Sipho Mokone said government should improve prison facilities in Gwanda.

“There is a Gwanda provincial correctional facility that has been on the cards for quite some time now. Every year, we are told that it is going to be built. May you kindly provide funds for that project so that it is done expeditiously,” Mokone said.

MDC Proportional Representative MP Yvonne Musarurwa said women in prisons should also be considered.

“May you please build more spacious jails so that they live comfortably. They are incapacitated in terms of accommodation, may you please help them so that we reduce overcrowding. May you please increase the budget to $20 billion,” Musarurwa said.

In response, Finance minister Mthuli Ncube proposed to increase the budget for the Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs ministry by $1 billion.

“Implement Operation Mango”: Chamisa Tells Supporters

By A Correspondent- Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has urged his supporters to lie low to protect themselves from violent attacks from Zanu-PF loyalists as tempers between the two major political party rivals continue to flare ahead of next year’s general elections.

Addressing a Press conference in Harare yesterday, Chamisa, whose campaign rally in Gokwe was blocked by rowdy Zanu-PF activists on Thursday, urged his supporters to adopt what he termed “Operation Mango — green outside and yellow inside”, where they pretend to be Zanu-PF supporters in public while remaining opposition at heart.

They have localised violence to make sure that they will stop me. I want to say to Zanu-PF, I will go anywhere, and everywhere, you will not stop me,” Chamisa said.

“I have been telling people that if they want to kill you for T-shirts, don’t worry about them. Let’s go Operation Mango — yellow outside, green inside. Why? To preserve yourselves. Be Zanu in their slogan, be Zanu-PF wherever you are going, but show and maintain your integrity to support the change.”

His statement came in the wake of violent clashes which erupted in Mashonaland East and Midlands provinces this week, where suspected armed Zanu-PF youths disrupted CCC rallies and attacked Chamisa’s campaign vehicles.

Several CCC supporters and journalists were injured in the skirmishes that occurred at illegal roadblocks reportedly mounted by Zanu-PF youth in Wedza and Gokwe to stop Chamisa’s campaign rallies.

But the youthful opposition leader declared that he would not be cowed into submission, adding that he would “fight peacefully” for his constitutional rights.

“You are not the owners of this land. Zimbabwe belongs to Zimbabweans. Mr (Emmerson) Mnangagwa, accept fair competition, don’t resort to your tactics that you have been using. They will not work. I can tell you that I am ready to fight peacefully,” he said.

“Just in the past six months alone, it’s shocking that we have had over 26 arrests of mainly opposition leaders. Just in Gokwe alone, 13 people were injured. I saw all of them.”

Analysts and human rights watchdogs have predicted a violent run-up to the 2023 polls.

The run-up to the March 26 by-elections were also marred by political violence.

A CCC activist, Mboneni Ncube, was speared to death by suspected Zanu-PF supporters at a rally addressed by Chamisa in Kwekwe in February ahead of the by-elections.

Chamisa also bemoaned the involvement of senior Zanu-PF officials in the violence that erupted in Gokwe and urged authorities to put in place measures that promote peace.

He was referring to Local Government minister July Moyo and the ruling party’s Midlands provincial chairperson provincial chairperson Larry Mavhima and former chairperson Mackenzie Ncube, who were witnessed by NewsDay Weekender directing the police to block Chamisa’s rally in Gokwe.

“Government ministers are behaving like thugs. They literally incite violence, sponsor violence and co-ordinate violence, which is very unfortunate. What we want is to insist on peace,” Chamisa said.

He added: “As I have said, rural areas have become centres of mass victimisation.  Intimidation and terror against citizens, particularly those that are in the alternative is on the rise. Our chiefs are in trouble. Village heads are in trouble. They are being subjected to incessant harassment.  Food and support from government is being weaponised.

Violence has also become a big issue. The human rights situation in the country has gotten to another level. What is clear is that the subject of the matter is human rights in the rural areas. People do not have access to basic services.”

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) yesterday red-flagged a rise in political tension in the country ahead of the 2023 polls.

In a statement, ZPP said: “ZPP is concerned about the violence that is meant to violate the right to freedom of assembly and association. Political parties should always rein in their supporters so that they respect the rights of all citizens even if they are their political rivals.”

Zanu-PF has often accused the opposition of stage-managing the violence to attract the attention of their “Western funders”.

On Wednesday, President Emmerson Mnangagwa described Chamisa as “a mad man”.

Addressing congregants at the Johane Masowe Vadzidzi VaJesu shrine in Madziva, Mashonaland Central province, Mnangagwa said: “We also have a mad man in our midst who thinks that Zimbabwe will be developed by the British or Americans. We cannot stop him but he will continue to bark without ruling.
