ZEC Postpones Mobile Voter Registration Despite Pending By-Elections

By A Correspondent| The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has postponed mobile voter registration exercise that were scheduled to start on the 6th of December 2021 in what has got the opposition worried with by-elections set to be held early next year.

In its internal letter, ZEC did not give reasons for the postponement but said the exercise has been moved to a later date to be advised.

The opposition MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa has been on a massive campaign to register new voters and this move by ZEC could scuttle their efforts to mobilize first time voters ahead of the impending by-elections and 2023 plebiscite.

I Saw The Video But Couldn’t Pickup the Smell Of Beer

Nick Mangwana

GOVT Spokesman Nick Mnangwana on Sunday struggled to defend his boss Emmerson Mnangagwa over revelations that he was drunk during the university scholarship he recently launched.

Writing on Twitter, Mangwana said Mnangagwa did not reflect any slurred speech, unsteady gait, or non compos behaviour at the function.

Mangwana said this as he failed to provide a video of Mnangagwa speaking full sentences.

,”Show a video of the President speaking full sentences (if he did this at any point), and particularly of him walking away from the podium (as he obviously did).

“That will answer all questions,” said the Australia based Thabani Sibanda.

By Farai D Hove | The below is the leaked video of ZANU PF leader, Emmerson Mnnagagwa while drunk during the launching of a university scholarship fund issued under his name.

It is of Mnangagwa during the launching of the ED-University Of Zambia scholarship program, designed to give disadvantaged Zimbabweans an opportunity to go and study at the UNZA.

In the video the politician is seen struggling to walk while strapping his tie all over his shoulder as if he is in his bedroom. He then appears in the wrong location of the building, and an unidentified woman struggles to help him with directions.

He is then assisted by the Deputy Minister Tino Machakaire and a second man, to get to his allocated place.

The embarrassing incident of Mnangagwa in a stupor

During the incident. Mnangagwa’s pink tie is seen thrown around his neck as if, a scarf.

Speaking later after the embarrassing incident, Mnangagwa, who expressed deep gratitude for the recognition and honour given him 44 years after he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the same university, said he was inspired to do more in support of the education sector in the country, including establishing synergies with regional and international universities.

“As a proud alumnus of this university, I am aware that this is the highest recognition that a university can award an individual.

“To give other young people the opportunity to experience learning at this great institution, I will be awarding Presidential Scholarships to deserving candidates to study at the University of Zambia,” said Mnangagwa.

“This Is Just The Beginning”

By Changamire Takudzwa Mukove- The Consorted Young-People Front, which is a social convergence of young persons with a drive to advance and push for youth participation in decision making at all levels, acknowledges and appreciates the judgment of the High Court.

According to the judgement, the disqualification of a Presidential candidate from contesting in the Students Executive Council Elections, who is also a member of the Consorted Young-people Front; Modester Zinhanga, on the basis of section 9 of Respondent’s Handbook, which also affected other members of the Consorted Young-people Front; Chris Zindi, Mupezeni was declared unfair discrimination and subsequently unconstitutional.

The judgment denounced the intention of Respondents to apply section 86 of the Constitution, because stipulations or regulations of Respondents do not have the status of a law of general application.

As a representative of the Consorted Young-people Front, I want to confirm that when our Candidates were disqualified, we were ready, actually always ready, to defend the rights of our candidate.

We are fully aware of our rights, in particular fundamental rights of students. Our appreciation of these rights gives us the confidence to always be ready to vindicate them.

We feel that this is just the beginning, if need be, we will always vindicate our rights before Courts in Zimbabwe and the region because we believe that Courts have a duty to protect our interests as long same are genuine and whenever they are violated.

We cannot stand to watch anyone being victimised. What we appreciate is that decisions are made by human beings, and any such decisions cannot be immortalised, neither can we be made to worship or abide by decisions that are wrong at law.

Universities have a duty as hubs of intellectual excellence to afford everyone an equal opportunity.

It becomes mind boggling when students of other Universities who are now Doctors and Professors connive to impinge on the rights of young persons in such an age of constitutional democracy.

As the Consorted Young People Front, we believe gone are the days when authorities would easily get away with murder!

We know our rights, and we will exercise all the rights available to us as a body, and through our members.

We are willing to go to any length in order to assert our rights contained in our Constitution and all liberties afforded to us because we are human beings.

Over and above the court has set a tone for us, it has created an ambiance that we forever will be indebted to. It has given us a solid ground for entrenching academic freedom at length.

“Support Zanu Pf”: Zimpapers Editors Told

By A Correspondent- The chairman of the Zimbabwe Newspapers Group (Zimpapers) has told editors to openly declare support for Zanu-PF before elections, claiming: “It happens everywhere.”

Tommy Sithole told editors at a retreat in Victoria Falls last Thursday that they should not be “ashamed” of supporting the ruling party, claiming this was a “national agenda.”

“We can do better, and we want to do the best we can to support the government, to support the system, because it’s never something to be ashamed of to be supporting a government, to be supporting the party (Zanu-PF),” Sithole, a former editor of The Herald, said.

“It happens everywhere, even in the United States and the United Kingdom that before elections, newspapers declare which candidate they are going to be supporting. It’s not something that we’re inventing, it’s something that’s there.

“The fact is that there’ not a single editor in our entire system who is going to sit there and say I’m going to do down the government.”

Zimpapers is majority-owned by the Zimbabwe Mass Media Trust on behalf of the public, with other shareholding held by private investors who bought shares on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange.

Zimpapers, which has over a dozen publications, a printing division, radio stations and a TV licence, was bought from its South African owners with money donated by the Nigerian government in 1980.

The Zanu-PF government has controlled Zimpapers through manipulating board and editorial appointments to turn the country’s biggest media group into a party mouthpiece.

Njabulo Ncube, the secretary of the Zimbabwe Editors Forum, said: “While Mr Sithole is right that newspapers around the world have been known to pick a candidate during elections, a close analysis will show that those who do so are private organisations and not public-owned entities like Zimpapers or the ZBC who have a public duty to be neutral and fair in their reporting.

“He should remind us of the day the BBC or even the SABC next door ever picked a political party during elections. Of course he can’t, never happened. His directions to the editors are therefore quite unfortunate.”

Sithole has faced accusations from Zimpapers staff of being meddlesome, particularly in editorial. Following his appointment, he demanded and was given an office at the Zimpapers head office at Herald House.

Subsequently, he created a WhatsApp group for all editors where he was daily reviewing their work. The WhatsApp group was eventually shut down after editors complained to information minister Monica Mutsvangwa.-Newshawks

Zanu PF Confusion Rocks Mash East

By A Correspondent- Confusion has rocked the ruling Zanu-PF party in Mashonaland East ahead of provincial elections as top contestants across all wings were from the same district, Wedza.

The party has since halted the polls due to the chaos.

Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs minister Applonia Munzverengwi is vying for the provincial women’s league chair post, while acting chairperson Michael Madanha is set to contest for the substantive position.

They both hail from Wedza district.

Youth leader McNorman Chitongo, also from Wedza district, was eying the youth league post, but withdrew after realising the imbalance.

“I have shelved my intentions of contesting for the youth league post,” Chitongo said.

A top party provincial official who declined to be named told NewsDay that if all candidates from Wedza win in the elections, it would create an imbalance.

“We have top contenders across all wings who are set to contest in the provincial elections. If Madanha and Munzverengwi win, then there will be disunity in the province. Some cannot stand having leaders from one district.

“The arguments by others were that at some point, Mudzi district had Ray Kaukonde as the chairman while the late Aquillina Katsande was the women’s league boss. Recently, we had the late Joel Matiza as the chairman, while Lyn Gororo is the women’s league chair. There is need to avoid that. The power matrix should be balanced,” the official said.

Madanha is set to battle it out with Kelvin Mutsvairo and Hebert Shumbamhini, while Munzverengwi will contest the women’s league top post against Gororo.

Uzumba’s Tinashe Choto, the late Matiza’s son Batsirai and a Mutoko miner, are all eyeing the provincial youth league chairperson post.

Provincial secretary for administration Kudzai Majuru said there was no provision in the party constitution that barred candidates from the same district from campaigning for posts.

“There is no hard and fast rule in the party constitution which governs this. However, it has been the consensus of the people that top posts should be shared proportionally and spread across districts which is only fair,” he said.-newsday

November Exams In Limbo As Govt, Teachers Clash Over Invigilation Allowances

Government yesterday accused teachers of presiding over the collapse of the education system by refusing to invigilate the Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (Zimsec) “O” and “A” Level examinations forfree.

The examinations are set to start today, but the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ), the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (Artuz), the Zimbabwe National Teachers Union (Zinatu) and the Educators Union of Zimbabwe (EUZ) have declared that their members would not invigilate if government was not going to pay them for the service.

Zimbabwe’s largest teachers’ union Zimta, yesterday said it would attend a National Joint Negotiation Council meeting today, whose outcome would determine whether its members would withdraw their services from the Zimsec examination process.

Primary and Secondary Education ministry spokesperson Taungana Ndoro yesterday told NewsDay that if teachers withdraw their services, government will use “anyone” to invigilate the examinations.

Ndoro also claimed that there were many teachers that were not affiliated to unions, who could supervise the examinations for free.

Last year, government resorted to using school ancillary staff and villagers to invigilate after teachers refused to supervise the examinations citing poor working conditions and non-payment for the service.

Last week, the teachers notified government that they would not invigilate the Zimsec examinations if the employer was not paying for the service.

The Public Service Commission, the Primary and Secondary Education ministry and Zimsec have all denied the responsibility for paying teachers.

Yesterday, Primary and Secondary Education ministry secretary Tumisang Thabela declined to comment, and referred questions to Ndoro, who claimed that 82% of the teachers in the country were not affiliated to any union and would invigilate for free.

“All Zimbabweans understand that teaching is a noble profession and that our teachers, despite whatever union they represent, are selfless and always ready to go to any extent to help their learners.  It gives them a great feeling of self-satisfaction when they see their learners achieve in life,” he said.

“However, in today’s world, the word ‘noble’ is misused by the likes of leaders of Artuz, Zinatu and the one-man-band EUZ. As for the second-largest teachers union in Zimbabwe, PTUZ, we respect that their teachers stretch themselves to help their learners without unreasonable expectation.

“They remain noble together with a host of non-unionised teachers that we are confident will invigilate exams with no immediate extra benefits because they are doing a noble profession.”On Friday, Ndoro told NewsDay that withdrawal of invigilating services by teachers had no impact as “anyone” could invigilate the examinations.

He said teachers should not derive motivation to perform their duties from salaries.

“We value all teachers who will not boycott invigilation as they are cognisant that their reward for the service is the happiness and satisfaction they will derive in being recognised by their learners even years after they benefited from their teaching and invigilation.

These two aspects — delight and recognition — are possible only if teachers are committed to their profession at a level that is beyond the influence of remuneration.”

But the unions accused government of using divide and rule tactics to dissuade them from fighting for a common cause.

“The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is no longer concerned about the quality of services they are providing. It has ceased to care about the situation in the education system. It is my view that the authorities are sabotaging the current government,” Artuz president Obert Masaraure.

“We are aware that for some years, education had been the pillar of Zimbabwe’s success story, but it has been reduced to tatters. If government fails in education, it has failed in everything. That is the drive with those that do not want the country to prosper.

“They are putting the success of the country under threat by sabotaging the education sector. Teachers will not stop demanding better salaries despite the divide and rule tactic. We still stand by our position that without contracts, no invigilation tomorrow (today).”

EUZ secretary-general Tapedza Zhou said: “The (Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education) can go ahead and contract ‘anyone’, who will provide invigilation services for free. Fortunately, our professional teachers are not ‘anyone’, hence are determined to avoid providing a professional service to an external entity that does not pay them.

Most of them will be relieved that MoPSE [Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education] is now engaging a guy called ‘anyone’ who will invigilate all examinations across the country. ‘Anyone’ will invigilate examinations while our professional teachers will not. Teachers have already made up their mind.”PTUZ secretary-general Raymond Majongwe said government’s failure to address concerns of teachers was compromising the quality and standards of education.

“That examinations could be invigilated by anyone is the highest contempt for teachers and their value that has ever been subjected to them,” he said.

“That contempt for teachers has taken us to where we are today. This is why the education system has been systematically vandalised. The trash talk is totally unacceptable.”

Teacher Crowned Miss Orient Zim 2021

By A Correspondent- 28 year old Bio-Science teacher Samukelisumusa Makombe was crowned inaugural Miss Orient Zimbabwe 2021 over the weekend beating nine other contestants at a ceremony held at Zimbabwe College of Music in Harare.

The Gweru queen walked away with hampers courtesy of various sponsors and cash prize amounting to $200 while the first princess went to Chiedza Mawere of Harare.

Lupane tourism and hospitality student Charmaine Murerabvudzi was voted the second princess.

Both princesses pocketed $100 and hampers.

Makombe, who was the crowd’s favourite from the start each time she goes on ramp, sailed well during the question and answer segment.

Asked, in line with the pageant’s theme, how would you empower the marginalized rural girl, Makombe said:

First I would empower the girl child by engaging them in my already running campaign and project of teaching young girls to believe in themselves, understand the importance of education and abuse among others.

I am also working on the issue of early child marriages which is also rampant especially where I come from. I am a teacher at Nashville High and this has helped me understand the girl child more as I am much involved with them.

Makombe said she was not new to pageantry as she once took part in the Miss NUST 2017 and was crowned Miss Personality.

The Miss Orient Zimbabwe ran under the theme, “Catwalk to empower marginalised rural girl child” in a bid to promote and give the girl child, especially those in the marginalised, a chance to showcase their talent.

It was a brainchild of Wendy Mapindu who said somehow the girls in such areas seem to be neglected.

ED Lawyer Reported For Unprofessional Conduct

By A Correspondent- Attorneys representing Zanu-PF member Sybeth Musengezi, who has taken the ruling party and five senior officials to court over contentions of installing President Emmerson Mnangagwa as new leader illegally, have reported the President’s lawyers, particularly senior counsel Edwin Manikai, to the Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) for “unethical” and “unprofessional” conduct.

The Bulawayo-based Ncube Attorneys, whose correspondence law firm in Harare is Mbidzo, Muchadehama and Makoni, has reported Manikai of Dube, Manikai & Hwacha (DMH) Commercial Law Chambers to the LSZ – the professional body representing lawyers in the country – over a letter which it says reflects improper and unscrupulous behaviour, as well as “bullying tactics”.

In a dramatic escalation of tensions over the Mnangagwa legitimacy battle, Ncube Attorneys wrote in a letter dated 18 November 2021 acknowledging receipt of Manikai’s earlier correspondence of 11 November 2021, while simultaneously complaining about DMH’s conduct.

“We confirm receipt of your letter dated 11 November 2021. The contents of your letter have been considered and for the record, what is clearly being demonstrated by your letter is unethical and unprofessional conduct,” Ncube Attorneys’ letter says.

“We note with great concern that you are using ‘bullying’ tactics and as such your conduct has been reported to the Law Society of Zimbabwe. Our client shall be filing an answering affidavit and the matter shall proceed to be heard in court.”

Manikai is a senior partner at DMH. He chairs Mnangagwa’s moribund Presidential Advisory Council, which has all but collapsed, amid governance dysfunctionality, as it proved inapt and inept beyond its public relations function. Besides, Manikai is related to Mnangagwa.

Musengezi in October took Zanu-PF to court over Mnangagwa’s disputed ascendancy. The first respondent is Zanu-PF. Mnangagwa is second, Obert Mpofu (third), Patrick Chinamasa (fourth), Phelekezela Mphoko (fifth) and Ignatius Chombo (sixth).

Early this month, Manikai filed the respondents’ opposing affidavit before turning around and demanding withdrawal of the case lest the applicant and his lawyers suffer the consequences, in a clear case of litigation by correspondence. This prompted the complaint by Ncube Attorneys.

Ncube Attorneys protested, but said there is no question of withdrawal of the case. They are due to file their answering affidavit anytime soon.

The reporting of DMH to LSZ follows a letter written by Manikai to Ncube Attorneys relating to the Musengezi case, in which he is suing Zanu-PF and its senior officials over how they appointed Mnangagwa to the helm through what they say was an unconstitutional and unlawful Central Committee meeting on 19 November 2017, making him an illegitimate and illegal party leader. After filing the opposing affidavit in which he pleads presidential immunity for Mnangagwa – who is not the main respondent as Zanu-PF actually is – amid claims Musengezi has no locus standi (legal standing), Manikai now wants the matter withdrawn.

“We refer to the above matter in which we act on behalf of 1st to 4th respondents (Zanu-PF, Mnangagwa, Mpofu and Chinamasa respectively) whose behalf we filed notice of opposition and opposing papers on the 5th of November, 2021 (opposing papers). We note that your client did not specify his address of residence or business, as required by the High Court rules, and thereby risking our clients in effort to recover costs that might be made against him in this matter,” Manikai says.

“Following opposing papers filed on 5 November 2021, the respective views of our clients has not changed. The respectful stance taken by our clients (which we agree with) is that your client has no case and the present application is devoid of merit, has been brought for ulterior motives and illicit purposes, including seeking the glory of publicity and for political purposes. lt has, therefore, been made in bad faith, is frivolous and is intended to play to the gallery, and thereby is an abuse of the privilege of the Honourable Court.

“It is therefore advisable for your client to withdraw his application unconditionally at this stage, tendering wasted costs, to avoid further abuse of process and privilege and forcing the respondents to incur additional costs defending this spurious and vexatious matter.

“In the event of your client not heeding this clarion call, our clients would be left with no other alternative but to seek costs de bonis propriis against you, on the basis and grounds that your client is facing primarily legal and supremely incontrovertible contestation; proceeding further would be evidence of gross negligence, and with respect, frivolous action in the advice rendered to your client.

“There is a plethora of relevant case law in this regard , including but not limited to the following: Matamisa v City of Mutare & Others SCfia / 98; Manpac (Private) Limited v People’s Own Savings Bank & Anor HCLLO26/L4; South African Liquor Traders Association and Ors v Chairperson, Gauteng Liquor Board and Ors 2009(L) SA 565 (CC).

“We reiterate that your client has no locus standi to bring this matter as he is not a member of the Zanu-PF, no leave has been sought to sue the President of Zimbabwe, the present matter has prescribed by law, and the matter is moot having been overtaken by events, and at any rate there are now material disputes of fact which cannot be resolve on the papers. Further, your client has not exhausted domestic remedies and the relief being sought by your client is incompetent. All these factors point to the conclusion that this application is ill-founded and ought to be withdrawn.

“This proposal is open for acceptance by your client and yourselves within seven days of the date of this letter, after which it should be treated as having been withdrawn and of no force and effect, unless extended prior to the expiry. In the event, our clients would be placing a copy of this letter before the Honourable Court in motivation of the prayer for costs de bonis propriis.”

Lawyers said Manikai’s response was unethical, unprofessional and unnecessarily threatening.

Commenting on social media, Bulawayo lawyer Sindiso Mazibisa described it as “litigation through correspondence”, which he said is “laughable”.

United Kingdom-based legal expert Alex Magaisa said on a Facebook post accompanied by the letter: “I have noted request for a comment regarding the letter (by Manikai) to Sybeth Musengezi. It may not be appropriate to do so at this stage except to refer to the wisdom of the ancestors that when a blind man challenges you to a stone-throwing contest it is probably because he has his foot on a stone!”

Magaisa – emphasising that the matter is mainly between Musengezi and Zanu-PF while Mnangagwa was enjoined as it affects him as an interested party – added: “I’m with Sindiso. The letter doesn’t reflect the high station of the lawyer whose name is attached to it (Manikai). If it had come from a young, junior and inexperienced lawyer who has limited appreciation of decorum, I would look past it. It’s too emotional and threatening suggesting panic, also that there is foreknowledge of the outcome. I know Bla Edwin and he is far too balanced for this type of communication. If he indeed penned this as the signature suggests then maybe on a better day he might reconsider it.”

Another senior lawyer, who preferred anonymity, said Manikai’s letter had undertones of “aggression, entitlement and impunity”.

“Attorney-client relationship is the most important aspect of professional life of lawyers. When lawyers enter into professional relations with their clients they become bound by several ethical and professional duties and obligations,” the lawyer said.

“Some of those basic ethics include that lawyers should avoid conflict of interest and not adopt a client’s cause. An effective justice delivery system requires ethical and professional lawyers. As torch bearers of justice and officers of the court, they have to be professional. Every legal practitioner must be cognisant of that.

“With this in mind and in this case, it is clear Manikai is close to the client (Mnangagwa) – thus proximity to power –; he has almost adopted his client’s cause, and tied himself in knots in the process. His letter has ethical and professional implications, which is what his colleagues are complaining about.”

The lawyer added: “One of the most common mistakes clients make is to assume that their lawyer is doing a great job due to the number and nastiness of their letters to the other side. That’s litigation by correspondence. It is absolutely a waste of time and money. A nasty letter usually causes the other side to dig in more as we can see in this case. It costs money, but does not resolve anything. It escalates conflict instead of de-escalation. Such correspondence is not evidence, thus has no value in court.”-newshawks

Govt Moves To End Mining Wars

Government is undertaking a restructuring exercise in the Mines ministry and plans to introduce extension officers that will work in communities to regulate mining activities.

This follows a public outcry over a rise in conflicts between mining companies and communities.

Senators on Thursday last week grilled the Mines ministry over rising illegal mining activities which they said were causing environmental degradation.

Legislators also said companies were failing to submit their environmental impact assessment (EIA) certificates before starting mining activities, and to rehabilitate the environment after mining.

Mines deputy minister Polite Kambamura said government was aware that illegal mining activities had become an issue of concern, hence the need to regulate the activities at grassroot level.

“We believe that there are a lot of illegal miners throughout the country, and we have raised this issue with the Home Affairs ministry and other law enforcement agencies to look into it,” Kambamura said.

“We encourage all miners to be registered with government. In the interim, the Mines and Mining Development minister (Winston Chitando) is working on a structure that mirrors the structure that is at the Ministry of Lands, whereby we have Agritex officers at the districts and they are there to supervise and regulate the farming operations.

“In the same manner, the Mines ministry is restructuring and very soon, we will be having mining extension officers who will be right down to where the miners are to regulate and control all mining activities and also to monitor if miners are operating as per law.  They need to be fully registered and they need to have EIA certificates.”

The ministry also wants the Environmental Management Act to be amended to ensure that companies are obligated to rehabilitate the land damaged from mining activities.

“We are amending the Environmental Act or the Ema Act to also include such requirements so that the miner is duty-bound or obligated to ensure that they cover the holes that they would have excavated.

“We have a team that was put together with the Environment ministry that consists of inspectors from the two ministries who are going to inspect mining locations so that we urge our miners not to leave pits uncovered because it is a danger to livestock and to people who will be moving around. It also disturbs farming activities.”

Centre for Research and Development executive director James Mupfumi told NewsDay that government needed to align mining legislation with the Constitution to effectively control illegal mining and conflicts between mining companies and community members.

“How can a mining extension officer control a miner who is empowered by the supreme Mines and Minerals Act? Why is government reluctant to table the Mines and Minerals Bill in Parliament? The Mines and Minerals Act needs to be harmonised with local government laws to address adverse human rights impacts. Without a transparent legal regime, this exercise is just another promotion for the boys to pocket money through corruption,” Mupfumi said.

Gvt Accuses Teachers Over Collapsing Education System

By A Correspondent- The government Sunday accused teachers of presiding over the collapse of the education system by refusing to invigilate the Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (Zimsec) “O” and “A” Level examinations for free.

The examinations are set to start this Monday, 22 November 2021, but the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ), the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ), the Zimbabwe National Teachers Union (ZINATU) and the Educators Union of Zimbabwe (EUZ) have declared that their members would not invigilate if the government was not going to pay them for the service.

Zimbabwe’s largest teachers’ union ZIMTA, yesterday said it would attend a National Joint Negotiation Council meeting today, whose outcome would determine whether its members would withdraw their services from the Zimsec examination process.

Primary and Secondary Education ministry spokesperson Taungana Ndoro on Friday told NewsDay that if teachers withdraw their services, the government will use “anyone” to invigilate the examinations.

He said:

Invigilation and teaching in class are two separate issues. Invigilation can be conducted by anyone…

On Sunday, Ndoro said while teaching was a noble profession, some teachers’ unions were no longer concerned about the education of learners.

He said:

However, in today’s world, the word ‘noble’ is misused by the likes of leaders of ARTUZ, ZINATU and the one-man-band EUZ. As for the second-largest teachers union in Zimbabwe, PTUZ, we respect that their teachers stretch themselves to help their learners without unreasonable expectations.

They remain noble together with a host of non-unionised teachers that we are confident will invigilate exams with no immediate extra benefits because they are doing a noble profession.

But the unions accused the government of using divide and rule tactics to dissuade them from fighting for a common cause.

EUZ secretary-general Tapedza Zhou said EUZ members are not “anyone” who can provide invigilation services for free adding that teachers have made up their mind about not invigilating for free.

PTUZ secretary-general Raymond Majongwe said the government’s failure to address the concerns of teachers was compromising the quality and standards of education.

State Security Agents Put Motswana Nationals On Surveillance

By Staff Reporter| The Zimbabwe State Security agents have allegedly put some Motswana of Indian origins who are gathered in Masvingo on surveillance after they allegedly received information that they were working bailing out opposition leader Nelson Chamisa during his intended rallies nationally.

President Chamisa Outwits Security Forces

By A Corresppondent- As the “Ngapinde Hake Mukomana” slogan continues to grow, opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has also continued to outsmart the security forces by meeting the masses.

Yesterday, the young leader braved heavy rains in Goba areas, Bulilima East in Plumtree and met hundreds of villagers.

Once more, Chamisa resorted to cunning ways which left security forces monitoring his movements with an egg on the face.

While addressing the masses deep in the heart of Bulilima District Chamisa promised people that the new Zimbabwe was inevitable.

“The Zimbabwe we all want is coming. Let us all remain vigilant and urge each and everyone to go and vote for change.”

The young leader was welcomed by joy and ululation as visibly soaked but happy villagers resorted to music and dance.

To his credit, Chamisa has also abandoned his large entourage and security and is only accompanied by his aides.

“My dream has come true’ said one villager who managed to take a selfie with him.

Over the weeks Chamisa has embarked on a nationwide tour meeting the people while also dodging bullets.

The youthful leader was at times spotted walking long distances to meet the people while on some instances he used a motorcycle.

However, his next destination is not known as the leader has chosen to play his cards clause to his cards while causing sleepless nights to ZANU PF.

Mwazha Angers Congregants

By A Correspondent- Some members of the African Apostolic Church attending the church’s annual pilgrimage have spoken about the untold frustration they endured on the way to Mapembe Shrine in Odzi near Mutare.

This happened as the battle to control the Archbishop Paul Mwazha-led church rages on.

The annual pilgrimage, which was held simultaneously with Mwazha’s 103rd birthday celebrations, drew more than 10 000 congregants.

The three-day event started last week on Thursday and ended on Saturday.

Motorists driving to Mapembe Shrine were selectively stopped, thoroughly searched, and others spent the night at traffic check points after a fallout with law enforcement agents.

Congregants who attended the pilgrimage told The Manica Post that they went through countless incidences of interrogations, accusations and frustration, especially at police roadblocks.

Joshua Daka, who drove all the way from Karoi for the Mapembe Shrine pilgrimage, said:

We endured a difficult time on our way. It was really sad to see some traffic officers frustrating us as if they were clearly under instructions to do so.

As we drove from Karoi, our worst experience was in Macheke where we were harassed at two roadblocks.

Chengetai Sithole, who drove with his family from Mt Darwin, said:

I also encountered problems in Macheke. We literally slept at the Macheke roadblock. It was a nasty experience that we least expected.

What surprised us was that the officers were accusing us of being ‘tsindondi’ and telling us not to trouble ourselves since we do not have many people behind us.

They actually spoke with authority on internal matters of our church.

“Tsindondi” is a term used in the African Apostolic Church to refer to those who subscribe to prayers in the mountains.

Contacted for comment, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said:

It is difficult to comment on that because it depends on whether they (congregants) lodged formal complaints, when and at which police station.

That is the only way we can ascertain the genuineness of their plight and take appropriate action.

Meanwhile, one of Mwazha’s sons, Alfred Kushamisa declared himself the archbishop and successor to his aged father.

However, in October the Supreme Court upheld part of a High Court ruling on the succession dispute in the AAC nullifying the appointment of Kushamisa as successor to his father.

Unlike Zimbabweans, Sudanese Reject Coup

By A Correspondent- Sudan’s Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok has been reinstated after he signed a deal with Sudan’s top general Abdel Fattah al-Burhan on Sunday.

The signing of the deal restores the transition to civilian rule nearly a month after a military coup.

The 14-point deal, signed in the presidential palace in Khartoum, also provides for the release of all political prisoners detained during the coup.

The deal also stipulates that a 2019 constitutional declaration be the basis for a political transition, according to details read out on state TV. Hamdok said:

I should begin by saying that our country is guarded and preserved by God Almighty and whatever we reach at dead end, my fellow Sudanese people are capable of restoring our country back on course.

When I then accepted the designation as an interim prime minister, I realised that the road was not strewn with roses, it would be a daunting task, fraught with risks and dangers.

However, by joining hands, we can all prevent our country from plunging into the unknown.

We should all come together to let the people decide who will take and hold the reigns of power.

Signing this framework political agreement will open doors to address all the pending issues of the transitional period over the past two years and under this partnership, we have managed to achieve a lot.

We have brought Sudan back into the international community, lifted its name from the terrorist blacklist and many other achievements.

However, we still have many challenges lying ahead.

In his remarks after Hamdok’s reinstatement, al-Burhan pledged to work towards the preservation of the transitional period. He said:

We will continue to work towards preserving the transitional period until all your dreams of democracy, peace and justice are achieved.

Over the past five or six days, a group among ourselves has been making maximum efforts.

All the credit goes to them for reaching this agreement and we believe this will pave the way for a total and complete transitional period.

Meanwhile, the Forces of Freedom and Change (FFC) civilian coalition, which had been sharing power with the military, said it did not recognise any agreement with the armed forces.

The Sudanese Professionals Association (SPA) on Sunday also rejected the political deal.

Sudanese people have been taking to the streets in large numbers since the military takeover late last month, which upended the country’s fragile transition to democracy.

The agreement comes just days after doctors said at least 15 people were killed by live fire during anti-coup demonstrations.

Hamdok was held under house arrest by military leaders for weeks.

Troubled Mwazha Church “Unleashes Police” On Congregants

Nick Mangwana Fails To Defend ED From Drunkenness Footage

ORIGINAL STORY BELOW….

Chaos In Mash East As All Contestants Pop Out As VP Chiwenga Homies

VP Constantino Chiwenga

Will ZANU PF survive after all Mash East contestants were revealed as VP Chiwenga Homies?

The latest development means that contrary to denials VP Chiwenga’s faction is truly engaged in a race against his boss, Emmerson Mnangagwa. Chiwenga moves might be triggered by Mnangagwa’s Karanga-rising of the cabinet as at January this year.

Chaos has hit the ruling Zanu PF party in Mashonaland East ahead of provincial elections as top contestants across all wings were from the same district, Wedza.

However, it has been the consensus of the people that top posts should be shared proportionally and spread across districts which is only fair,” he said. -Newsday/ additional reporting

“Mnangagwa Is Heartless”

Mr Mnangagwa

Tinashe Sambiri| MDC Alliance vice chairperson Hon Job Sikhala has described Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa as an unelectable leader.

Mr Mnangagwa is heartless and insensitive to the plight of suffering citizens, according to Hon Sikhala.

Former President Robert Mugabe, despised for tormenting thousands of opposition supporters, warned the nation of Mr Mnangagwa’s callousness.

“Mugabe died after warning us kuti munhu uyu ane hutsinye. He doesn’t deserve to be anyone’s leader.

He forced Majonga to sit on a hot stove & 2 jump frm the 2nd floor because of a woman.

We ridiculed Mugabe because of his unpardonable sins but we see it today. Blaz havaiti ava,” Hon Sikhala said.

He also accused Zanu PF MP for Bikita East, Johnson Madhuku of forcing schoolchildren to attend a party rally.

“The Bikita East ZANU PF Member of Parliament Madhuku threatened schools to give him children to address them at his flopped RALLY.

This abuse of school children must stop as soon as possible.

Mnangagwa Fired Spokesman Buried At Heroes Acre Today

The man who fired Emmerson Mnangagwa in 2017 will be buried at the National Heroes Acre today.

Khaya-Moyo, a former Zanu PF Politburo member, who has been described by many as a true patriot, courageous and selfless freedom fighter, succumbed to cancer last week at Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo.

Heroes Acre

He was 76.

Covid-19 regulations will be adhered to.

President Mnangagwa is expected to preside over the proceedings.

Khaya Moyo was declared a national hero in recognition of his contribution to the liberation and development of the country before and after independence.

His body arrived in Harare on Saturday ahead of burial today.

In an interview yesterday Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe confirmed that a huge number of mourners is expected to attend the burial.

“Cde Khaya Moyo played a major role towards the development of the country during and post-Independence, hence he deserves a befitting send off. Each and every province is expected to have a representative but adhering to Covid-19 protocols though the figures are declining,” said Minister Kazembe.

Permanent Secretary, Mr Aaron Nhepera said according to a provisional burial programme, the body of the hero will leave One Commando for burial at the National Shrine.

“We expect many people at the National Shrine. Covid-19 principles however will be applied. The body will leave One Commando for burial at the Heroes Acre. Proceedings will start at 9.30,” he said.

Zanu PF Harare interim executive chairman Goodwills Masimirembwa said all was set for a befitting send off of the hero.

“We have secured 30 buses to ferry mourners to the National Heroes Acre. We know people have the zeal to bury a national hero in the mould of Cde Khaya Moyo. We are ready to go” said Cde Masimirembwa.

She said Bulawayo, Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South provinces have also been provided with three buses to ferry 30 mourners per each province to Harare to bid farewell to the hero.

Khaya-Moyo, a career diplomat and former Cabinet minister, was the Senator for Bulilima and Mangwe constituencies at the time of his death.

He served his apprenticeship as a young political secretary to the liberation struggle icon the late Vice President Joshua Nkomo during the armed struggle.

At independence Khaya Moyo started working in the Ministry of Home Affairs as an assistant secretary and rose through the ranks to a Cabinet minister and diplomat.-Herald

Seized Haulage Trucks Gone Forever, Supreme Court Rules

The Supreme Court has confirmed the forfeiture of five haulage trucks smuggled into the country by a local company saying they were tainted property.

Madefit Investments (Pvt) Limited is said to have been in the habit of smuggling trucks into the country and change identities of the vehicles to assume the identities of vehicles, which would already have been registered in terms of the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Act.

The offence came to light after police received information about Madefit criminal activities that would result in the offending vehicles carrying false identities, in contravention of the registration law.

Acting on this information, the police impounded seven motor vehicles from stand number 301/99 Tilco Industries, Chitungwiza, being the Madefit’s place of business, and took them for forensic examination.

The examination of the vehicles was carried out on January 10 2020 at the Criminal Investigations Department Vehicle Theft Squad in Southerton, Harare, and established that five of the seven trucks were tainted property.

The tainted commercial vehicles include four Frieghtliner horses with the following registrations numbers:

AEZ 0790

ADZ 4104

AEG 6695

ADS 0982.

The fifth one is an international truck, registration number ADZ 4880.

This prompted the Prosecutor-General’s Office represented by Chief Law Officer Mr Chris Mutangadura to approach the High Court applying for an order to confiscate the vehicles at the centre of smuggling.

In April this year, the High Court granted an application by the Prosecutor General to have the five forfeited to the State.

However, Madefit sought to appeal the decision at the Supreme Court when the permissible timeframe to note an appeal had since lapsed.

Dismissing the application for late filing of the appeal last week, Supreme Court judge Justice Tendai Uchena, ruled that Madefit’s grounds of appeal were weak.

“In the circumstances, it seems to me that the court a quo applied the law fairly and equitably in order to make an objective assessment of the motor vehicles’ liability for forfeiture and the applicant failed to prove that the decision of the court a quo is likely to be set aside if its late noting of the appeal is condoned. I am therefore of the view that the applicant has no prospects of success on appeal.

“Accordingly, it is ordered that the application be and is hereby dismissed with costs,” ruled Justice Uchena.

Mr Mutangadura, who heads the National Prosecuting Authority’s Assets Forfeiture Unit appeared for the PG while Advocate Tawanda Zhuwarara represented Madefit Investments.

The application for a civil forfeiture order was brought in terms of Section 79 as read with s80 of the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Act (Chapter 9:24) (MLPCA).

The State’s contention was that Madefit’s five motor vehicles were tainted property and should be forfeited to the State.

The court noted that the original chassis numbers in respect of all the vehicles could not be restored even when the vehicles were subjected to the forensic examination procedure called chemical etching. Ridges, furrows or linear marks (striation marks) stood where the original chassis numbers were placed by the vehicles’ manufacturer, a testament to force having been applied to remove the original chassis numbers.

Further the court noted that despite bearing a new, and different chassis number, the vehicle now appearing as ADZ 4880 was resilient to the extent that remnants of the original chassis number, JH537341, were restored under the forensic examination.

Yet, in applying for and obtaining approval for restoration not only of the engine, but chassis number, Madefit had supplied the chassis number as IHTRLOOO85H652 998.

This meant the application for restoration of the chassis number was deceptive and the court said the company could not rely on the deception to resist forfeiture of this vehicle.- Herald

Penia Mavaza The Hero Who Was Betrayed By His Own.

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | Zimbabwe’s Independence has seen the blood of thousands of Zimbabweans who came out to fight the British rule and gave their lives to break the shackles of oppression. Even though we know a lot of names of these brave people, there are many names which got lost over the years.
While we all know how cde Robert Mugabe, Emmerson Mnangagwa, Tongogara Chitepo Takawira Joshua Nkomo and many others paved the way for Zimbabwe’s Independence, there are several others who were equally valorous freedom fighters.

There are many lesser-known brave fighters who were a part in marking Zimbabwe’s history. Some belonged to the parties or factions which lost. As human nature is always selfish their names have been forgotten very fast.

Zimbabwe is a place where cultural heritage and diversity is explicit. What makes Zimbabwe so unique is that millions of people living in different atmospheres and surroundings make big names for themselves and for the nation. I take pride to say that every Zimbabwean citizen is a fighter. Someone or something that provides a great benefit, has done very good work, has performed some heroic deed or function, to see Zimbabwe free but has not received the credit or recognition they deserve.

It’s the volunteers who are the real unsung heroes of this country. They’re the ones who put in countless hours without pay to ensure that everything runs smoothly from beginning to end.

Such Individuals not famous or celebrated as they deserve to be lie in the cold earth their families suffering they are our unsung heroes.
Penia Mavaza was a revolutionary, who became actively interested in Zimbabwe’s independence movement as a nationalist and patriot. In the 1960s he took part in the Civil Disobedience movement and was arrested for destroying dip tank and voicing against the white minority. Penia Mavaza joined hands with Sydney Mukuya and many others to fight the white minority. He did not care which party he belonged to as long as it was fighting colonialism. . To much of his families anger there are no plans to honour ‘unsung’ freedom fighters.
All what the families ask is to showcase unsung heros and little-known groups and events of the freedom struggle.
Zimbabwe needs several events and lectures to be organised to underline their contribution. Zimbabwe in the last four decades has missed some opportunities to celebrate those who did not get any acknowledgment yet for their role in Zimbabwe’s freedom struggle.
My brother remembers vaguely when Penia was arrested. There were three black officers and one white one the white officer was called Mujonhi. Penia was taken to Goromonnzi Police station. He was tortured and was accused of leading a group of people to destroy dip tanks. That time the colonialists used blacks against blacks. Black police officers were taken from different provinces and they used to be very cruel on their brethren. Penia was then moved from Goromonzi police to Gonakudzingwa. That time his pregnant wife gave birth to a son and he was called Gonakudzingwa. Unfortunately the wife left while Penia was still in prison. The other wife Madube waited patiently for her husband.
My brother who was older at the time Taunus Mavaza remembers going to Hwahwa where Penia was finally transferred. He narrated how it was freezing cold in Gweru. He would remember when he set his eyes on Penia, he said he started crying, Penia cried too. The Jail guards were not sympathetic but mocked him asking him if he came the whole journey just to cry. Penia suffered and all that was for Zimbabwe.
During the war in 1978 Penia Mavaza who has been in Prison for over ten years for fighting the colonial rule was released. He was released together with

Dozens of other black freedom fighters who were jailed without trial. In Prison Penia met cde Robert Mugabe Joshua Nkomo and many nationalists who were celebrated ahead of Mavaza.

The irony of the matter is that Penia Mavaza was tortured by the freedom fighters and killed by his own people.
After his release from Prison the people viewed him as a traitor. They wondered how was he released and others were left behind. But unknown to those who judged him his release was not engineered by him. The colonisers wanted to show that they are committed to negotiations. So they released a number of these detainees to pave way for discussions.
Penia Mavaza was a forceful fearless man. He would call a spade a spade.
One day after his release from Prison a group of militias who were then called the DAs came to our village. They gathered the villagers at St Judes Mavaza primary School. They started threatening people but Penia stood up. He confronted them and told them that they are fighting their own people by supporting the white regime. He lectured them on nationalist politics. We were so scared that they will kill him. But they did not.
Four days letter Penia was taken at night and taken to a nearby village Chikodzonga village. The comrades as they were known were camping there. He was interrogated the whole night and he was freed in the morning. During the interrogation Penia emphasised on the unity of purpose in order to defeat the enemy of the people. He was a political lecturer.
Again after few days the comrades came to camp at Mavaza village Penia was summoned to a pungwe which was a nightly ritual. The comrades asked if anyone knew them. The unspoken rule was that you must say I don’t know you. But Penia said he knew them and he had met them at Chikodzonga village. That standing for the truth could have sealed his fate. Four days latter he was taken from his home at night. He was tortured then he was led to a bush where they planned to kill him. Penia fought the captors and escaped. But as a loving father he hid in the bush for sometime and he decided to go to his wife and Children. The wife had waited for him when he was in Prison. He could not just let her to be tortured by the comrades. He had small children at home. He had to save them from the jaws of death.

He sacrificed his life for his family. Family was everything to him. He was a true Mavaza a family man.

As he tiptoed home he did not know that his captors had laid siege at his house. This time the captors included his brother’s children and one uncle. He was captured again for the second time.

Penia was led to another village called Mabhureza village. The comrades ordered that Penia be released but monitored. However his own people turned against him. One of his maternal uncle hit him with a pick head in the head on the forehead. This crushed his scull. With a pick in his head Penia fought like a lion but he was over powered. He died a painful death few days after his release from prison. From a frying pan to fire.
The following morning the news spread that Penia was killed by the comrades. People were told not to cry. If you were caught crying you were going to be killed. Joyce and Juliet Penia’s daughters were distraught. They were thirteen and fourteen when their father was killed
The captors were not done, they dumped him in a shallow grave.
They decided to go and take his wife. But by the time they arrived at Penias house the wife had escaped. They followed her in hot pursuit but God protected her. She made it to Bhora shopping centre and caught a lift to Harare. She took her children with her Pine, Janet and Jenifa, Percy and Pardon Joyce and Juliet and Nduna to Bulawayo.
Petros and Gonakudzingwa were left home were their life was hell. They were tortured and lived a horrible life. Gonakudzingwa was born when Penia was incarcerated at Gonakudzingwa prison.
Penia’s brother Josiah Mavaza who was the first born in their family sat together with his siblings and agreed to preserve Penias body for burial after the war.
They agreed the only way to preserve his body was to protect his head. So his skull was taken and was to be hidden in Josiah’s sugarcane garden.
The hero was gone Penia was killed by those who were freed by his blood. Those who gained an interest in his blood.

His killers aside Penia’s colleagues in prison looked the other way. His children did not benefit their lives were altered for the worse and yet the name of their father has become insignificant.

Praises can be heaped on the living but Penia Mavaza is the unsung hero.
I remember after independence a proper funeral was held. He was to be buried at his house up the hill at the borders with Nhau Village.
Penia Mavaza is survived by five Children and several grandchildren.

Effects Of COVID-19 And Tuberculosis

The COVID-19 pandemic has reversed years of global progress in tackling tuberculosis and for the first time in over a decade, TB deaths have increased, according to the World Health Organization’s 2021 Global TB report.

In 2020, more people died from TB, with far fewer people being diagnosed and treated or provided with TB preventive treatment compared with 2019, and overall spending on essential TB services falling.

The first challenge is disruption in access to TB services and a reduction in resources. In many countries, human, financial and other resources have been reallocated from tackling TB to the COVID-19 response, limiting the availability of essential services.

The second is that people have struggled to seek care in the context of lockdowns.

“This report confirms our fears that the disruption of essential health services due to the pandemic could start to unravel years of progress against tuberculosis,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “This is alarming news that must serve as a global wake-up call to the urgent need for investments and innovation to close the gaps in diagnosis, treatment and care for the millions of people affected by this ancient but preventable and treatable disease.”

TB services are among many others disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, but the impact on TB has been particularly severe.

For example, approximately, 1.5 million people died from TB in 2020 (including 214 000 among HIV positive people).

The increase in the number of TB deaths occurred mainly in the 30 countries with the highest burden of TB[1]. WHO modelling projections suggest the number of people developing TB and dying from the disease could be much higher in 2021 and 2022.

Challenges with providing and accessing essential TB services have meant that many people with TB were not diagnosed in 2020. The number of people newly diagnosed with TB and those reported to national governments fell from 7.1 million in 2019 to 5.8 million in 2020.

WHO estimates that some 4.1 million people currently suffer from TB but have not been diagnosed with the disease or have not officially reported to national authorities. This figure is up from 2.9 million in 2019.

The countries that contributed most to the global reduction in TB notifications between 2019 and 2020 were India (41%), Indonesia (14%), the Philippines (12%) and China (8%). These and 12 other countries accounted for 93% of the total global drop in notifications.

There was also a reduction in provision of TB preventive treatment. Some 2.8 million people accessed this in 2020, a 21% reduction since 2019. In addition, the number of people treated for drug-resistant TB fell by 15%, from 177 000 in 2019 to 150 000 in 2020, equivalent to only about 1 in 3 of those in need.

Global investment for TB falls
Funding in the low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) that account for 98% of reported TB cases remains a challenge. Of the total funding available in 2020, 81% came from domestic sources, with the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russian Federation, India, China and South Africa) accounting for 65% of total domestic funding.

The largest bilateral donor is the Government of the United States of America. The biggest international donor is the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

The report notes a fall in global spending on TB diagnostic, treatment and prevention services, from US$ 5.8 billion to US$ 5.3 billion, which is less than half of the global target for fully funding the TB response of US$ 13 billion annually by 2022.

Meanwhile, although there is progress in the development of new TB diagnostics, drugs and vaccines, this is constrained by the overall level of R&D investment, which at US$ 0.9 billion in 2019 falls far short of the global target of US$ 2 billion per year.

Global TB targets off track
Reversals in progress mean that the global TB targets are off track and appear increasingly out of reach, however there are some successes. Globally, the reduction in the number of TB deaths between 2015 and 2020 was only 9.2% – about one quarter of the way to the 2020 milestone of 35%.

Globally, the number of people falling ill with TB each year (relative to population) dropped 11% from 2015 to 2020, just over half-way to the 2020 milestone of 20%.

However, the WHO European Region exceeded the 2020 milestone, with a reduction of 25%. This was mostly driven by the decline in the Russian Federation, where incidence fell by 6% per year between 2010 to 2020. The WHO African Region came close to reaching the milestone, with a reduction of 19%, which reflects impressive reductions of 4–10% per year in South Africa and several other countries in southern Africa, following a peak in the HIV epidemic and the expansion of TB and HIV prevention and care.

“We have just one year left to reach the historic 2022 TB targets committed by Heads of State at the first UN High Level Meeting on TB. The report provides important information and a strong reminder to countries to urgently fast-track their TB responses and save lives,” said Dr Tereza Kasaeva, Director of WHO’s Global TB Programme. “This will be crucial as preparations begin for the 2nd UN High Level Meeting on TB mandated for 2023.”

The report calls on countries to put in place urgent measures to restore access to essential TB services. It further calls for a doubling of investments in TB research and innovation as well as concerted action across the health sector and others to address the social, environmental and economic determinants of TB and its consequences.

The new report features data on disease trends and the response to the epidemic from 197 countries and areas, including 182 of the 194 World Health Organization (WHO) Member States.

Confirmed: Inmates Seriously Injured After Being Struck By Lighting

Thirteen (13) inmates from Hwange’s Mbalila Prison are battling for their lives in hospitals in Hwange and Bulawayo after they were struck by lightning while they were having lunch on Friday.

Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) national deputy spokesperson Superintendent Peter Chaparanganda confirmed the development.

He said among the injured male inmates, four of them have been transferred to Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo because their injuries were severe. Said Chaparanganda :

“On 19 November 2021, a bolt of lightning struck Hwange Prison in Matabeleland North province and 13 convicted male inmates were affected.

The inmates were inside the prisons’ yard and this happened around 11.30 hours whilst inmates were being fed lunch.”

He said initially the 13 were rushed to a local hospital where the four were transferred to Bulawayo due to the seriousness of their condition. – VicFallsLive

Teacher Sues School Committee After Being Accused Of Satanism

A Chipinge teacher who was transferred from Chimana Secondary School after she was accused of being the ring leader of an alleged satanism cult at the school is suing the School Development Committee (SDC) and village heads for $5 million for defamation.

The teacher, Mercy Mutando approached the Chipinge Civil Court on Tuesday accusing the Chimana SDC led by Tafara Sithole, and village head, Walter Mushavanhu, and the other 12 members of the community of calling her a satanist.

Chipinge magistrate, Elizabeth Hanzi presided over the case, while Tariro Tazvitya, of Bere Brothers Legal Practitioners, represented the defendants.

In her submissions to the court, Mutando claims that she lost her dignity in the community as everyone accused her of initiating pupils at the school into satanism.

She said her name was tarnished all over the world because of the allegations raised by the defendants. Mutando said:

My name was tarnished and was all over social media because of the unfounded allegations raised by the defendants.

They gave false information to the District Schools Inspector, police and Chief Mapungwana that I was responsible for the mysterious happenings that were reported at the school.

I was disturbed by these allegations, and my employer had to transfer me to another school since my life was in danger at the school.

In April this year, bizarre incidents took place at Chimana Secondary School, with some pupils collapsing, while some fell into trances.

As a result, three school inspectors visited the school and recommended its closure.

The village head and the community staged a demonstration at the school resulting in Mutando being transferred from the school.- Manica Post

Selmor Mtukudzi Releases Nine Track Album

By A Correspondent-Selmor Mtukudzi, daughter to the late music icon and national hero, Dr Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi, has vowed to keep her father’s legacy alive through fresh compositions that carry the departed singer’s trademark touch.

The songbird launched her seventh studio album, “Ndangwara”, at a strictly-by-invite dinner held in Harare on Thursday before the album was officially unveiled to the public the following day.

Speaking to The Sunday Mail Society, Selmor said the late music superstar heavily inspired the nine-track album.
“This new offering is a carbon copy of my father’s work. I am pulling all stops to make sure that we keep his legacy and genre alive,” she said.
She, however, was quick to plead with fans not to compare her with the departed legend.
“To be honest, the shoes left by Dr Tuku are way too big. Many other musicians and myself cannot easily fill them, if at all we can. But, I am trying day and night to match the set standards. I hope one day, through the name of Jesus Christ, I will make the grade.”
The musician said she is aiming for excellence despite the numerous challenges she currently faces in her music career.
Some of the tracks on the album include “Ndangwara”, “Haisi Nyore”, “Bvubvuru Bvubvuru” and “Pfuma Yevana”.
“Female artistes are often underrated. This might be the reason why some people think I cannot fill the void left by my father. I will not say much, but will only let my work do the talking,” she said.
“At times we face changes as we go about our music business, but we simply persevere.”
Last year, she released “Dehwe reNzou”, which received positive rave reviews from music critics. The Steve Dyer Tribe Studio produced 11-track album captured the singer’s feelings and thoughts before and after her father’s demise.
Some of the tracks featured on the project included “Zvine Basa Rei?” the title track “Dehwe reNzou” and “Mandidzimbira”.
Zimdancehall chanter Guspy Warrior has released a 12-track gospel-laden album.
Simply titled “Emmanuel”, the reggae-gospel album has left the singer’s fans as well as fellow musicians puzzled.
“Asi makuita zve gospel here, tibudireyi pachena tizive,” commented one of his fans only identified as DJ Towers.
King Shaddy, his fellow Zimdancehall artiste, said: “Mukoma Guspy, mavakuita zve church, you are following your father’s DNA (sic).”
However, Guspy Warrior told The Sunday Mail Society that the album was a dedication to his father Mechanic Manyeruke, who recently retired from music.
“My intention was to give a warm farewell to my father, who retired from music after over three decades in the industry,” explained Guspy.
“I have no intention of abandoning hardcore Zimdancehall. It is what I love and know best.”
Mechanic Manyeruke (71) said he was appreciative of his son’s gesture.
“I am now tired and need to rest . . . I want to thank my son for showing me this kind of love and honour. It means a lot,” he said.
Zimdancehall sensation Seh Calaz, real name Tawanda Mumanyi, and the charismatic prophet-cum-music promoter, Passion Java, are at “war”.
Seh Calaz recently dropped his new album titled “Bvopfiro Pariro” with tracks like “Hatibvume Kupusa” and “It’s Okay It’s Okay” being some of the outstanding compositions.
However, it is the track “Hatibvume Kupusa” that seems to have sparked friction between the two.
The song is more of a direct attack, rather response, to Java who is well known for making the “bvuma kupusiswa” chant.
Initially, Java appeared to have a soft spot for Seh Calaz’s new release. But that has changed now.
“What is ‘Bvopfiro Pariro?’ Mukoma wangu apa wakashaya, ndosaka usina ma views because hapana anoda kuterera mbodza idzi,” commented Java on his Facebook page.
The statement infuriated the chanter.
“Mukuru, ma ghetto youths are tired ne pride dzenyu. Hapana kana anokuda kuno; vanhu vanokudira mari chete. Huya usina uone kuti pane anokuda here,” said Calaz in his response on social media.
The comic Java swiftly countered, saying: “Inini handikwatiswe nema ghetto youths, ndokukoporayi mese, musatambe neni.”
Could this be a marketing gimmick for Seh Calaz’s new album? Only time will tell.
However, speaking in an interview, the “Mabhanditi” singer said he resents people that have no respect for ghetto youths.
“Passion (Java) should come to the ghetto and apologise otherwise we will fire salvos at him.”

Ngezi Platinum Through To Chibuku Super Cup Final …

Ngezi Platinum Stars edged Cranborne Bullets 1-0 in a Chibuku Super Cup semi-final match played at the National Sports Stadium on Saturday.

Bruno Mtigo’s goal early in the second half was all Roderick Dhlakama’s charges needed to book a place in the final of the tournament.

In-form Denver Mukamba almost fired Madamburo ahead as early as the third minute but his effort came off the crossbar.

It was all Ngezi in the early stages but Bullets settled and crawled their way back into the game.

Chances were far in between the for the two teams but neither of them could break the deadlock in the first half.

Two minutes after the restart, Ngezi took the lead.

Bruno Mtigo’s effort from close range somehow found its way into the back of the net, though the Bullets goalkeeper should have done better.

Wonder Kapinda almost levelled matters for Bullets in the 70th minute but his well-taken shot from outside the box hit the crossbar, with Nelson Chadya in goal for Madamburo, beaten.

The final five minutes of the match were rain-soaked but Ngezi held on to book a place in the final, in which they will play either Dynamos or FC Platinum.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Zivhu Mocks Mnangagwa Says Mugabe Was Never Drunk Nor A Druggie

Killer Zivhu…

By Farai D Hove | The expelled former ZANU PF legislator Killer Zivhu has indirectly mocked the ZANU PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa saying his predecessor was never drunk.

The development comes after a leaked video of the ZANU PF leader while drunk during the launching of a university scholarship fund issued under his name.

Said Zivhu: “One good thing about Mugabe aiva asingadakwi kana kusvutsa fodya. – ONE GOOD THING ABOUT ROBERT MUGABE IS THAT HE WAS NEVER DRUNK OR A SMOKER.”

Mnangagwa replaced his former boss in a violent military coup in 2017, and has since then struggled to hold the nation together, amid mass looting of state money and a sharp rise in drunkenness and drug taking in the community.

Zivhu’s comment shoots-straight-in the-eye of Mnangagwa’s recently leaked video during the launching of the ED-University Of Zambia scholarship program, designed to give disadvantaged Zimbabweans an opportunity to go and study at the UNZA.

VIDEO LOADING BELOW…

ZLHR STATEMENT ON WORLD TOILET DAY

ON World Toilet Day, Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) calls upon the relevant authorities to ensure that there is greater access to toilets and adequate sanitation facilities around the country.

World Toilet Day is celebrated every year on 19 November. It is an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of toilets in society and the need to address the global shortage of safe and functional toilets.

It is an opportunity for the public to take action towards resolving the global sanitation crisis by advocating for increased investment of public and private resources into the construction of more toilets. Moreover, World Toilet Day serves as a reminder of the global commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6), which is sustainable sanitation.

The theme for World Toilet Day in 2021 is ‘Valuing Toilets.’ The themeemphasises how toilets are important to the collective wellbeing of society.

The lack of access to toilets by some poses a threat to the health of the general public since poor sanitation leads to the spread of waterborne diseases and contamination of drinking water sources.

Ultimately, poor sanitation has the potential to overburden health care systems with patients suffering from avoidable waterborne diseases.

Despite the importance of toilets to public health, billions of people across the globe do not have access to proper toilets and other sanitation facilities. The United Nations (UN) estimates that over 700 children under five years old die from diarrhoea which is linked to
poor sanitation.

The UN estimates that over 2 billion people across the world drink contaminated water due to a lack of access to properly managed sanitation facilities.

The availability of adequate toilets is also essential for the protection of the fundamental right to human dignity. Everyone has a right to live a dignified life and this includes a life which is free from the dangers of a lack of access to safe and proper toilets, which
include ill-health and death in some instances.

Moreover, increased access to safe and functional toilets is vital because it will help achieve substantive equality.

In Zimbabwe, many communities lack access to safe and functional toilets and this has created a sanitation crisis in these communities. The state has a constitutional obligation to address this crisis by taking comprehensive steps to ensure access to adequate toilet
facilities.

The state actors have the duty to protect, promote and fulfil the fundamental rights which are entrenched in the Constitution of Zimbabwe. The need for adequate toilet facilities impacts a number of rights which include the right to human dignity, the right to life, the right to a clean environment, the right to access to health care and the right to equality. In light of this, the state has a duty to expedite the measures it has adopted to address the sanitation crisis in Zimbabwe.

On this World Toilet Day, ZLHR calls upon:

•       The public to join the rest of the world in calling for greater access to toilets and adequate sanitation facilities;

•       The authorities to adopt comprehensive measures that are designed to address the dire shortage of safe and functional toilets in Zimbabwe;

•       The authorities to expedite the steps that are being taken to increase access to toilets because public health depends on the availability of toilets and adequate sanitation facilities.

•       The authorities to ensure access to adequate sanitation services because access to adequate toilets and related sanitation facilities is crucial for the protection of constitutional rights.

The matter came to light at Guruve magistrates courts on Friday where Abel Kavhura was slapped with $10 000 fine for violating the domestic violence act.

Prosecutor Albert Charehwa told the court that on  October 30 Kavhura followed his wife Alice Nyemba to the growth point and demanded the grocery money he had given her.

The wife refused and the husband became violent before removing her clothes, biting her thumb and severely assaulted her with open hands.

He was restrained from futher assaulting her by a mob.

Sand Poachers Wreck Havoc In Cowdray Park

By A Correspondent- Illegal sand poachers are now targeting undeveloped housing stands in Bulawayo’s Cowdray Park suburb, leaving unclaimed pits that pose a danger to children.

Two children drowned in one of the unclaimed pits in 2020.

Cowdray Park residents said the illegal sand poachers frequented the suburb at night in search of the material, which has a ready market in the construction business.

“The poachers come here during the night and steal sand from unoccupied stands.

“The majority of land owners are based in South Africa,” Nomathemba Dlamini said.

“Last year we lost two children after they fell into one of such pits.”

Another resident, Vusumuzi Ndlovu said the city council must ensure that all stands were occupied to reduce land degradation caused by the sand poachers.

“All we are asking for is that the city council must take action and make sure that such pits are filled for the safety of our children,” Ndlovu said.

“If someone fails to develop the stand for more than five years then something has to be done.”

In February, a 15-year-old Pelandaba West boy drowned in an abandoned pit. The same hole claimed the life of a 12-year-old girl, who drowned in December 2020.

Ward 28 councillor Kidwell Mujuru confirmed the sand poaching activities in the suburb.

“It is very true that poachers have destroyed almost half of the Cowdray Park area,” Mujuru said.

“Some residents are responsible for what is happening.

“They usually sell pit sand when they are broke or in exchange of intoxicating substances for those who are consuming them.

“This has been happening for a long time with the aid of residents. River sand and pit sand are in demand.”

Sand poachers  charge  between US$80 and US100 for a truck load.

Mujuru added: “We are going to call a meeting with residents to come up with a long-term solution for this problem because it poses a threat.

“We will also create a neighbourhood watch group that will ensure that such things don’t happen.

“The city council has been trying to help through deployment of rangers, who patrol the area during the day.

“The challenge is that these people operate during the night and the ranges will no longer be there.”

“Highlanders CEO Contract Will Not Be Renewed”

By A Correspondent- Highlanders Football Club have decided not to renew the contract of their chief executive officer, Nhlanhla Dube when it expires at the end of the year.

Dube is on leave after his employer last month asked him to take a break since he had accumulated a lot of days. Ronald Moyo, the Highlanders media and communications officer is the acting CEO. It has since emerged that Dube, a former Highlanders secretary will cease to be a Bosso employee at the end of his contract on 31 December 2021.

Highly placed sources told this publication that Highlanders have formally written to Dube to inform him of the decision not to renew his contract so as to give him enough time to look for alternative means of survival while he winds up his contract with Amahlolanyama. The Bosso executive committee is said to be in agreement in their evaluation of Dube that he has not done much to earn a contract renewal.

“Nhlanhla Dube has been informed that his contract as Highlanders CEO will not be renewed. The club officially wrote to him recently so he now knows that he is not returning to his post,” said the source.

Dube has since his initial two-year contract expiry on 30 April 2019, been a source of division at Highlanders. Vice-chairman Modern Ngwenya together with the then secretary Israel Moyo were in 2019 suspended after the two voted against adopting recommendations from the club’s human resources committee to extend Dube’s contract to the end of that year. His contract has been getting periodic renewals since then, with the extensions coming under the chairmanship of Kenneth Mhlophe, who early this year lost in the elections to Josphat Sibanda.

Ngwenya and Moyo were eventually expelled from the committee after a full hearing but appealed that decision and returned to their positions a few months later. Moyo eventually lost the secretary’s post to Morgen Dube in the elections held early this year.

Highlanders chairman, Sibanda proffered a diplomatic response when a comment was sought from him about Dube’s status at the club.

“We don’t comment about employer and employee contracts in the media and public, that’s confidential information. I can’t comment on that,  that is the policy of the club,” Sibanda said.

Gvt Mulls New Radar Installation

By A Correspondent- The Government says it is working on installing a new radar to improve the surveillance of civilian airspace, amid fresh revelations of a crisis in the air traffic control system.

An association of the country’s air traffic controllers (ATCs) in May told the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) board of directors that they had operated without the aid of a working radar system since 2010.

However, Transport and Infrastructure Development permanent secretary Theodius Chinyanga, in an interview with The Standard said the aviation system always had surveillance equipment in place.

Chinyanga refuted a report claiming that private aircraft were sneaking in and out of Zimbabwean airports without detection due to poor surveillance.

He was quick to admit though, that the surveillance equipment was installed a long time ago and, therefore, needed to be replaced. Said Chinyanga:

Any aircraft that is of a civilian nature files its flight path papers before departing, so there is no chance of sneaking in and out.

He said the current refurbishments at Robert Gabriel Mugabe (RGM) International Airport included the instalment of a new surveillance system. Chinyanga said:

CAAZ have a radar, but it is old technology. The new installation would be based on the current generation of radars.

The current upgrades on infrastructure should entail all facets of surveillance as well.

On reports of private planes flying at low altitudes in and out of the country, Chinyanga said low-flying aircraft was the responsibility of the Defence ministry.

Defence minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri reportedly said she was in a meeting when contacted by the publication.

She is said to have ignored several other calls and WhatsApp messages.

But in an interview with the government-controlled media in December last year, Muchinguri-Kashiri admitted to the possibility of aircraft arriving and leaving undetected. She said:

There are too many airstrips and we know that there are some small aircraft that fly very low and are difficult to identify.

This is due to the old radar system that urgently needs replacement.

… We are working with CAAZ to close the gaps used by these small aircraft to smuggle minerals, especially gold.

Harare Pastor, Colleague Hauled To Court Over Money Laundering

By A Correspondent- Harare pastor and colleague have been arrested for alleged money laundering involving over US$2,2 million which they had splurged on houses and vehicles.

Edmore Chipiso (33), a pastor at Hatcliffe-based Reality of Fire Ministries who lives at 119 Broadlands, Emerald Hills, and a colleague, Roselyn Dunga (31), an aviation security employee of 16433 Stoneridge, Waterfalls, appeared before Harare Magistrates’ Court charged with contravening Section 8 (1)(a)(b) of the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Act.

They were not asked to plead when they both appeared before Mr Stanford Mambanje and were remanded out of custody to December 3 on $20 000 bail each.

Prosecutor Mr Lancelot Mutsokoti told the court that on an unknown date, but between August and November 2021, the pair laundered over US$2 million.

The source of the money is yet to be established.

The duo reportedly bought a house at number 12 Giraffe Crescent, Borrowdale West, for US$580 000 and house number 14256 Leggate Street in Gunhill for US$400 000.

They also went on to buy a property in Selous – the remainder of Coburn 23 Plot measuring about 200 hectares – for US$130 000.

Mr Mutsokoti said after acquiring the properties, Chipiso and Dunga started buying vehicles.

The cars include a black Mercedes-Benz S350 (registration number AFG 2419) worth US$95 000, an Iveco truck, three DAF XF 105 truck horses, three flatbed trailers and 42 000-litre fuel tanker worth US$1 million.

However, they were arrested after the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) flagged their suspicious transactions. Overall, the pair reportedly laundered over US$2,2 million.

Mat South Records Malaria Cases Decline

By A Correspondent- Matabeleland South province has recorded 800 malaria cases and four deaths since January this year down from 2 823 registered cases and 11 fatalities during the same period last year.

Matabeleland South provincial epidemiology and disease control officer Andrew Muza said there has been a general decrease in malaria cases compared to 2020.

As of May 2020, statistics show that Matabeleland South recorded 2 823 cases of malaria and 11 deaths with Beitbridge accounting for 89% of the cases.

In 2019, the province accounted for 583 cases and nine deaths down from 1 966 cases and 10 deaths in 2018 during the same period.

“As a province we have reported about 800 malaria cases in 2021 and four deaths.

“Our incidence is generally low at 1/1000 population/year.

“Beitbridge and Gwanda have relatively higher incidences within the province,” Muza said in an emailed response to questions.

“Our province is in malaria elimination and our districts record 10 to 20 cases of malaria in one year except Beitbridge and Gwanda.

“Beitbridge East, which borders Chiredzi district in Masvingo province is a high malaria burden area that can have as much as 700 to a 1000 cases in a year.”

Muza said the epidemiology department is implementing elimination activities including malaria diagnosis and treatment to affected patients.

“Other activities include biolarviciding, indoor residual spraying to outbreak areas per rising need,” he said.

“We have strengthened surveillance systems as a response pillar to malaria elimination as well.

“As we are getting into the malaria season, which usually begins after the rains, we urge members of the public to cooperate with health officials by participating in malaria community vector control activities.

“Those that have been given nets need to use them for their intended purposes and use them correctly as taught.

“If anyone has symptoms suggestive of malaria-like fever and chills, generalised body weakness, vomiting and headaches they need to visit their nearest health facility early for prompt diagnosis and treatment.”

Malaria remains a public health problem in Zimbabwe.

Between 2011 and 2015, the malaria incidence was less than one case per 1000 population at risk in all districts save for Beitbridge and Gwanda.-the standard

Seh Calaz Buries Passion Java

By A Correspondent- The war of words between chanter Seh Calaz and controversial preacher Passion Java turned nasty with the musician claiming that the flamboyant skit preacher sacrificed the life of the late Soul Jah Love.

At the time of his death early this year, Soul Jah Love was under the management of Passion Java Records and recorded songs under the label.
Last week Java took to Instagram to mock Seh Calaz, describing him as a spent force who has three albums in one year, but with no achievements to talk about.
Seh Calaz responded with a video saying Java was just bitter because he turned down his offer to join Passion Java Records.
He went on to release a diss track dubbed Handibvume Kupusiswa, produced by Lazy T. In the song he samples Soul Jah Love’s part in Ndakamukwapaidza. He goes on to say that Java had tarnished Soul Jah Love’s image.
He said that Java was not a promoter, but a culture vulture whose intentions are to use musicians for clout before dumping them.
In response to the diss track, Passion Java under his recording label dropped an unreleased Soul Jah Love song dubbed Nzwisiso.
The video of the song features Java showcasing mick mouse dances and Soul Jah Love’s brother, Tendai Musaka.
Seh Calaz and Soul Jah Love once divided, not just music fans in their widely publicised beef, which saw fans from the respective camps Mabhanditi and the Conquering Family clashing every time there was a musical gathering.
The beef, which promoters tried to settle on stage, would end in violent skirmishes. In 2014 their clash lasted nearly 15 minutes at the City Sports Centre as violence became the order of the night.
In a video that has gone viral on social media, Seh Calaz said he was now starting to believe rumours that Java knows what caused Soul Jah Love’s death.
“When Soul Jah Love died, his mobile phone and laptop with music went missing, raising suspicion of foul play and even his post mortem was never revealed, even though I don’t want to believe that you sacrificed Soul Jah Love, but what you are doing and saying right now might prove that you did it (killed Soul Jah Love),” said Seh Calaz.
“Wakachekeresa mwana (Soul Jah Love) that’s why you always drag his name in everything you do. Now wakuunganidza vanhu nemumvuri we mwana, (you are attracting the masses through Soul Jah Love’s name).”
The Mabhanditi kingpin went on to claim foul play and said that Soul Jah Love might have died at his house before being taken to Mbuya Dorcas Clinic where he was pronounced dead.
“I don’t believe that Soul Jah Love died at Mbuya Dorcas clinic, but at his house then you took him there. I knew everything about Soul Jah Love and he also knew about me, of all the people who were very close to him, how come you were the first to confirm and break the news of his death yet others such as Waddis, Changara, and Chippaz didn’t know about it. You know nothing about Soul Jah Love, he was not your close buddy.
“Leave Soul Jah Love to rest in peace and stop using his name to fight me and also stop misleading President Emmerson Mnangagwa that you will harvest the youth vote and help with the five million votes for Zanu PF yet you speak ill of the same poor youths you claim to represent.”
In a follow-up interview with Seh Calaz, he said he had nothing further to say and would let the music do the talking.
“All the answers are in the music and the live videos I did. I was provoked and reacted and music is the only way I express my feelings. It’s a closed chapter now and I am moving on with my music,” he said.
Efforts to get a comment from Passion Java were fruitless as he did not respond to messages sent to his mobile phone. Standard

Mugabe Campaign Preacher Resurfaces, Backs Mnangagwa

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF-aligned cleric Obadiah Musindo, of the Destiny for Afrika Network (Danet), they are targeting to mobilise more than one million votes for President Emmerson Mnangagwa ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections.

Musindo was very active in campaigning for Zanu PF during the late former President Robert Mugabe era. He could use his “church” and non-existing residential stands to lure voters for Mugabe during that time.

Zanu PF has said that it is targeting five million voters while the main opposition MDC Alliance is eyeing six million voters in its ongoing voter mobilisation drive.

Musindo said his organisation plans to mobilise “virgin voters” and the marginalised communities through the provision of housing and empowerment projects and voter registration. Musindo said:

We have launched a programme where all our beneficiaries must ensure that their families are registered voters.

Voting is a civic duty that we are obliged to do and we must do so as patriotic Zimbabweans.

Everyone must ensure that their kids are registered to vote and they must vote for ZANU PF starting with the forthcoming by-elections.

There are 133 vacant seats in Parliament and Local Government following the recall of MDC Alliance legislators and councillors.

President Mnangagwa recently told party supporters in a mini-rally in Chimanimani that by-elections will be held in the first quarter of 2022.

By A Correspondent- Armed soldiers and members of the dreaded Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) have reportedly forcibly beaten up police officers manning Mazowe roadblock.

Mnangagwa Speaks On Drug Abuse

By A Correspondent- President Mnangagwa has implored children to be disciplined, hardworking, respectful and also abstain from drugs and wayward behaviour if they are to be competitive in a globalised world.
Speaking in an interactive session with children drawn from Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana and Namibia during the World Children’s Day forum that was held here yesterday, President Mnangagwa said while children have their expectations, their governments also expect good behaviour from them.
“Today’s interactive meeting informs us leaders what you think we should do for you. But you should also apply your minds on what you think we as your leaders should do for you, for us to help. We want discipline. Respect your parents, respect your teachers, lecturers and professors. Abstain from drugs and wayward living, that is what we would want you to be. We feel better that you the young, who are going to be leaders of these countries — these communities, are discussing these issues,” said the President.

Zimbabwe’s young people were represented by Nkosilathi Nyathi, a UNICEF climate change activist from Victoria Falls who passionately pleaded with the regional leaders to give children space to express themselves.
President Mnangagwa said in the past it was rare for children to be afforded platforms where they would interact with their leaders, but now times have changed and the progressive leaders of today have roped children on board to hear their concerns.
“I am really thrilled and impressed that President (Botswana President Mokgweetsi) Masisi thought he should assemble us to discuss these issues. I have no doubt that leaders would want to leave behind a society that is focused, a society that is competitive, we are living in a digital world and it is necessary, therefore, that we teach you digital technology as early as possible,” the President said.
President Mnangagwa joined his Botswana counterpart Dr Masisi, Namibian President Hage Geingob and Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema at the quadripoint where Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana and Zambia meet.

This year’s annual World Children’s Day was held under the theme, “Reimagining the Future”, a new initiative that seeks to give children and young people the space to engage in defining the vision they want for their future and future generations.
The Kazungula Bridge was lit in blue, symbolising that children have no limitations to their hopes and aspirations.
“This occasion gives an opportunity to us the leaders to hear the children express themselves, their aspirations and what they expect from us. But before I go into detail, I would like to challenge the children; besides expecting us to do things for you, we as leaders also have expectations of you,” said President Mnangagwa.
“Our education systems, in the respective countries, it is necessary that we begin to address issues of capacitating our young people, from primary to secondary and institutions of higher learning, we need to create an environment where you can excel, where those who have talents can express themselves”.
The President said as young men and women, their generation used to aspire to be teachers’ clerks and nurses, with fluency in English a status symbol, but now times have changed.
“Our education was structured not to make us think about creating products and services, to modernise and industrialise our nations, but today this has changed and the burden is now on you.

“Satanist” Teacher Sues School

The village head and the community staged a demonstration at the school resulting in Mutando being transferred from the school.

Goblins Terrorise Nyanga Family, Eat Cooked Food

By A Correspondent-A Nyanga family is reportedly starving as alleged goblins are feasting on its cooked food before replacing it with soil on a daily basis.

The Nyikayaramba family also lost two huts to a mysterious fire recently amid claims that the goblins belong to some of the elderly Nyikayaramba family members who are reportedly trying to get rid of them.

The goblins are now tormenting Gogo Nyikayaramba and her three grandchildren.

The three juveniles doing Grades six, one and Early Child Education (ECD) have dropped out of school as a result and staring starvation in the face.

Acting Chief Saunyama confirmed the case to The Manica Post which is happening at the Nyikayaramba homestead in Ward 14 of Kute Village. He said:

I can confirm the mysterious occurrences happening at the Nyikayaramba homestead. The children who are all below the age of 11 are manifesting.

They are being tormented by goblins that take away their prepared food, and eat it before replacing it with soil.

This has been happening for some time now and has left the family living in abject poverty after two huts were recently reduced to rubbles by a mysterious fire.

The fire destroyed household property as well as clothes and foodstuffs. The origins of the fire are yet to be ascertained.

The children often fall into trances, and some of them are now staying at a local prophet’s homestead, a development that is compromising their safety.

A neighbour who requested anonymity revealed that they have informed Chief Saunyama and other relevant authorities such as the Department of Social Welfare to act on the issue. Said the neighbour:

It is a serious case. Their food disappears from their plates especially when the three juveniles and Gogo Nyikayaramba are about to eat.

This has severely traumatised the kids and their health is failing. Villagers are also perplexed.

The goblins are reportedly being unleashed by Gogo Nyikayaramba’s relatives who want to get rid of them.

Acting Chief Saunyama summoned the Nyikayaramba family to his traditional court and were set to appear before him yesterday (Friday).

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe National Traditional Healers Association (ZINATHA) president, George Kandiero urged Gogo Nyikayaramba to come clean on the issue.

T Freddy Rape Case, Another ZBC Staffer Arrested

By A Correspondent- An engineer at ZBC Friday appeared in court on allegations of attempting to extort Goodness and Mercy Ministries leader Tapiwa Freddy of US$20 000 after threatening to expose a love affair between the self-styled prophet and radio presenter Rutendo Makuti.

Mutetepi Maushe (36) was not asked to plead to extortion charges when he appeared before magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi, who remanded him to December 7 on free bail.
Maushe is likely to be jointly charged with Makuti, who is facing similar allegations, when he returns to court.

It is said sometime last year, Freddy was involved in a love affair with Makuti.
The court heard that during the subsistence of their relationship Mutetepi allegedly connived with Makuti to extort money from Freddy and started threatening him saying he was a brother to Makuti. He was using the name Tapson Makuti.
Allegations are that Mutetepi instructed Freddy to pay Rutendo Makuti US$20 000 for their love affair not to be exposed to the public and to avoid allegations of rape against him.
Mutetepi allegedly called Freddy purporting to be Makuti’s brother and demanded the US$20 000.

Sometime this month, Mutetepi called Freddy and allegedly gave him an ultimatum of up to the end of the day to pay the US$20 000 and sign a document admitting that he raped his alleged sister.
Freddy noted the extortionist tendencies and reported the matter to police.
Makuti was arrested when she was lured to meet Freddy to discuss the signing of the document and the payment of the US$20 000.
She then allegedly implicated Maushe.

Ken Sharpe’s Borrowdale Houses Condemned

Harare Provincial Development Coordinator (PDC) Tafadzwa Muguti has condemned controversial businessman Kenneth Raydon Sharpe’s Borrowdale houses which were constructed on a wetland saying they are not good for the environment.

Muguti made the remarks while addressing residents’ associations during a Harare Wetlands Trust meeting at Town House last week.

Muguti accused Sharpe of grossly disrespecting wetlands.

“Let me echo my displeasure, it is very bad that we have people who believe that because they are building larger property development projects they are actually to an extent immune,” Muguti said.

“There are people who feel protected by council, I am very worried about developments happening around the Borrowdale racecourse area. I grew up watching those wetlands, you wake up in the morning and there is a grader that is already building roads and you can see that stands are going to come,” added Muguti.

He accused the City of Harare and the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) of corruption, questioning why they would allow development to proceed on a wetland.

“Unfortunately we have had so much corruption in this great nation of ours over the years such that when I drive around and see people building three story buildings on wetlands I am actually in shock and wonder which blind person from EMA allowed such development. What I have promised your minister is that from now on if there is a wetland that has been given an EIA certificate, we to build on a wetland we should allow people to challenge that certificate. We cannot connive in offices and agree at the expense of residents who are on the ground,” said Muguti.

He further noted that residents have been rendered powerless as City of Harare wantonly disregards their adverse reports against developments on wetlands.

“We all know that Harare has a greater master-plan, the areas which are wetlands have not been built on for a reason, they were left out of the master-plan for a reason. It was not an omission; it was actually part of the plan that they be left out. There is also the issue to do with large property developers, while they are good for us as a province they need to also be good for the environment,” Muguti said.

Nick Mangwana Blasted For Advertising Billy Rautenbach’s Houses

By Jane Mlambo| Norton legislator Temba Mliswa has blasted Information Secretary Nick Mangwana for advertising Billy Rautenbach’s Aspindale flats saying such actions strengthens the controversial businessman’s behavior of intimidating people using government links.

Responding to Mangwana’s post where he was announcing the official commissioning of the Aspindale flats by Housing minister Daniel Garwe, Mliswa had no kind words for the information Secretary.

“Ko why is @nickmangwana advertising private flats by Billy Rautenbach. This is the capturing of Gvt that we talk about. Instead of showing us real government housing programs for the masses you are selling private flats.

“This is how Billy intimidates people by showing them Gvt links in issues where he has no legal standing. It’s unfortunate that Gvt channels state machinery and systems to promote his private business instead of national housing programmes,” said Mliswa.

Mangwana had posted the message below;

“Minister Garwe has commissioned Aspindale Aspire Heights flats in Aspindale near Kambuzuma.
This is the first block with 16 units. 12 more blocks are under construction. Flats are open to everyone. One pays US$20 000 deposit and then US$4000 per month for a year.”

Meanwhile, social media users have also reacted angrily to Mangwana’s post which they said exposes government’s elitist approach of marketing properties which civil servants cannot afford to buy.

Opposition Transform Zimbabwe leader Jacob Ngarivhume had this to say; Not sure if I should laugh or cry.4000 USD/month is a mortgage for an upper middle class family. This is so troubling.

Chiredzi Woman Bitten By Scorpion While Sleeping Outside Due To Scotching Heat

The scotching heat in Chiredzi has caused the death of a woman who was bitten by a black scorpion while sleeping outside the house with her husband on Sunday.

The couple was sleeping on a mat on the ground to escape unbearable temperature inside the house.

Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson Kudakwashe Dehwa confirmed the death.

“I can confirm that a woman who was sleeping with her husband outside their house was bitten by a snake and died two hours later in Chiredzi,” said Dehwa.

Dehwa said that Flora Munorwei (40) of Zunguza Village, Chief Gudo went to bed with her husband Kesias Muzundi outside the house as it was too hot inside.

At around 9pm, Munorwei who was already asleep screamed that something had bitten her on the left shoulder and her husband checked and saw a big black scorpion and called the kids to kill the scorpion.

The scorpion left a black mark on Munorwei’s shoulder and they rushed her to St Joseph Gudo Clinic in a wheelbarrow where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Her body was taken to Chiredzi General Hospital for post mortem.

Black scorpions known as parabathus transvaalicus are known to be poisonous. In Zimbabwe they are found in the most dry parts of the country which is the Lowveld and Southern Region.

A Ministry of Health official who is the Masvingo Provincial Medical Director, Amadeous Shamu said cases of deaths resulting from scorpion sting are a few and mostly people who are bitten by scorpions survive.

“Most patients who are bitten by scorpions survive but however we have rare cases of deaths depending on the type of scorpion since we have some scorpions which are very dangerous,”said Shamu.

Hwange Inmates Injured After Lightning Strikes Prison

Thirteen inmates at Hwange Prison were on Friday afternoon injured, four of them seriously, when they were struck by lightning inside the prison yard while having lunch.

Zimbabwe has started experiencing summer rains which are mostly accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) national deputy spokesperson Superintendent Peter Chaparanganda told Sunday News that all the affected inmates were rushed to hospital.

“On 19 November 2021 at around 11am a bolt of lightning struck at Hwange Prison in Matabeleland North Province and 13 convicted male inmates were affected.

The inmates were inside the prison yard while they were having lunch.

All the 13 inmates were rushed to St Patrick’s Hospital and upon arrival four of them were reported to be serious while the other nine were said to be stable.

The four were referred to Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo for further management,” said Supt Chaparanganda.

He said as of yesterday the four inmates were in a stable condition.

Although he could not be drawn to reveal the extent of injuries sustained, sources told Sunday News that the burns were third degree, while the other nine had mild burns.

Third degree is a severe type of burn that extends through every layer of the skin.On Thursday last week, the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) issued a warning that some parts of the country could experience storms with winds strong enough to blow off roofs.

“Moisture is drifting into the country from Botswana through Matabeleland North and South provinces. This coupled with high temperatures over much of the country should result in thunderstorms which may be violent in some places (coupled with strong winds, lightning, hail and heavy rains in some places). This is normal for the first time of the year, especially in a season which is expected to have normal to above normal rains,” said MSD.

The Government has since activated disaster response teams through the Civil Protection Unit in anticipation of extreme weather related eventualities and Treasury has already allocated funds to conduct awareness campaigns on rain related hazards.

Members of the public have also been called on, to where necessary to stay indoors, avoid travelling in open trucks or working on the fields and hiding under trees when it rains.

President Mnangagwa Orders Pumps To Produce Z$ Fuel | CLEVER or STUPID?

The fuel will be available to all those who want to access it, according to an instruction President Mnangagwa has given to the Ministry of Energy and Power Development…

By Dorothy Moyo | ANALYSIS |

In what is clearly the ordering of fuel stations to produce Zim dollar rated fuel, the ZANU PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa has promised a facility in which imports of fuel will be sold in local currency by service stations starting at the end of this November.

The fuel will be available to all those who want to access it, according to an instruction President Mnangagwa has given to the Ministry of Energy and Power Development.

Most fuel at present is sold in foreign currency, with imports done through free funds, largely the foreign currency paid by users.

There were modest imports using foreign currency auction funds, with some cheating and selling this in foreign currency, but few have been bidding recently for auction funds for fuel, hence the need for the direct Government action.

Last month, the energy sector regulator, the Zimbabwe Energy Regulation Authority (Zera), flighted an advert inviting fuel station owners and distributors who wished to participate in supplying fuel in local currency.

So far, 57 fuel station owners and distributors have responded and the first tranche of 15 distributors and fuel station owners is now working with Zera and the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe on modalities to ensure that the facility is water tight.

Acting Energy and Power Development Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere confirmed the development yesterday.

According to details made available, the Zimbabwe dollar fuel facility will also be extended to State-owned enterprises and strategic Government contracts for roads and dams construction.

The ministry has already developed some of the modalities and frameworks in monitoring the implementation of the Zimbabwe dollar fuel scheme.

They include that all fuel companies should have the national fuel management system installed, that designated service stations should sell in local currency only and Zera will monitor and analyse the specific supplier, including banking transactions.

Companies are also expected to submit weekly returns to Zera, and ensure that service stations selling fuel in local currency are advertised in the print and electronic media.

Companies participating in the facility must have at least three service stations in different provinces.

Containers are banned for the Zimbabwe dollar fuel, which will prevent people buying in local currency and selling in foreign currency.

The participating companies will be barred from uplifting fuel from the National Oil Infrastructure Company depots before reconciling the previous allocation.

Hefty penalties will be applied on companies that fail to account for proper application of fuel sold in local currency.

Fielding questions from backbenchers in the National Assembly on Wednesday, Dr Muswere said the framework was being developed, which will see Zera working closely with the Reserve Bank and fuel suppliers and distributors to come up with a list which will then be published by the Ministry of Energy and Power Development.

Responding to a question from Buhera South legislator, Cde Joseph Chinotimba (Zanu PF), who wanted to know how soon the facility would be ready, Dr Muswere said: “What I would like to assure him and this House is that before the end of this month, the Zimbabwean dollar fuel facility will be fully functional.” – Additional reporting, State Media

Council Mulls Constructing Solar Plant At Pelandaba Cemetery

By A Correspondent- The Bulawayo City Council is working on establishing solar farms within their water pumping stations which will help solve the problem of power outages which have forced the local authority to introduce a 72-hour water shedding schedule.

The local authority last week increased its water shedding schedule from 48 hours a week to 72 hours as the power outages continued to affect water pumping in the city. According to the Town Clerk, Mr Christopher Dube, the power outages resulted in subsequently subdued abstraction and pumping.

Speaking to Sunday News the Mayor, Councillor Solomon Mguni said council has submitted a number of solar generation projects to the Zimbabwe Investment Development Agency (Zida) which will see the power outage problem being resolved in the city. He said the aim was to have the solar farms also feeding into the national grid.

“When we came into office, if you recall, we advertised for those with free funds to take up solar generating projects in and around the city. We were earmarking some of those to be within our water treatment sites. The expressions of interest showed that we got an overwhelming response.

We forwarded those investments to the Zimbabwe Investment Development Agency for approval as per norm in terms of investments for projects of that magnitude, so we are still waiting for confirmation whether those projects meet the test in terms of requirements for such kind of investments,” said Clr Mguni.

He said if the city could get a few of the projects approved it will be able to generate electricity within Bulawayo hence being able to consume part of that electricity that will be produced and also feed into the national grid.

Clr Mguni further bemoaned the high levels of daily water consumption by the city, noting that this was also contributing to the strained supplies being experienced in the city.

“Consumption has also been high of late because of the high temperatures, the heat that we are facing. Where we are supposed to consume an average of 140 mega litres per day, the consumption is shooting to between 160 and 180 mega litres a day, which is quite difficult to contain and manage.

“Further the Tuli catchment area, whose reservoir supplies most of Eastern suburbs, is giving us a lot of problems in terms of balancing the rate of consumption. We suspect that individuals are doing a lot of agriculture activities at their homes,” he said.

Meanwhile, the local authority has submitted a partnership proposal to Zida that will see a solar plant being constructed at the Pelandaba Cemetery.

The project was also presented to delegates at COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland early this month as a profitable and innovative project by a public sector partner, with win-win benefits for the private sector, residents and the environment.

According to a council confidential report, the project will be spearheaded by the local authority together with Scottish company, Chitendai Limited.

“Management had since received an expression of interest from Chitendai Limited to develop and build a solar plant at Pelandaba Cemetery in the city of Bulawayo, with the intention of supplying clean, reliable and more affordable electricity to the regional utility companies.

The project will create employment and improve the economy of Bulawayo. If allocated the area, Chitendai Limited will undertake feasibility studies at their own cost.

They were also aware and acknowledge that if the results of the feasibility study show that the site was not suitable for solar installations their costs were irrecoverable,” reads the report.

The local authority noted that if successful, the initiative would invite other project investors to participate in similar projects and would draw lot of global attention to the city.

“You said you wanted Shumba, Murambwi, President Mnangagwa, a competent leader, a leader who will be our candidate in the 2023 elections, so that he can achieve his vision 2030. Ezekiel Guti Defeated By Student In High Court Over Speaking In Tongues Orders

Ezekiel Guti

By Farai D Hove | The ZAOGA church owner, Ezekiel Guti’s university leadership has been defeated in the High Court after ordering that students must first speak in tongues for them to be elected to student-union leadership positions.

The matarenda-money built, Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University had been taken to court by a student who the institution barred from leading

High Court judge Justice Webster Chinamora on Thursday ruled that ZEGU’s decision to disqualify Modester Zinhanga is illegal.

Ezekiel Guti
Ezekiel Guti sitting at Mnangagwa’s high table (file copy).

Justice Chinamora ruled as follows, that:

1. The decision to disqualify Applicant is unfair discrimination and a direct violation of section 56 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

2. *All students* who qualify as registered and enrolled with the First Respondent with *at least a semester of study* at the 1st Respondent have an equal opportunity and equal benefit of the law which must be promoted and protected and must be afforded the equal opportunity to run for elections in the student body.

3. That the decision of Respondents should be confined to what the First Respondent’s University Charter permits as fair discrimination under the supreme and ultimate guidance of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

4. The whole section 9 of the  Students Handbook 2021 Edition is *unconstitutional* to the extent of its inconsistency.

5. Respondents to pay costs of suit.

In a brief statement, a student body announced in writing saying it acknowledges and appreciates the judgment of the High Court, which declared that disqualification of a Presidential candidate from contesting in the Students Executive Council Elections, who is also a member of the Consorted Young-people Front; Modester Zinhanga, on the basis of section 9 of Respondent’s Handbook, which also affected other members of the Consorted Young-people Front; Chris Zindi, Mupezeni as unfair discrimination and subsequently unconstitutional.

I Call Heaven And Earth

Choose Life

Lesson 8

Memory Text: Deuteronomy 30:19 ‘I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.’

INTRODUCTION.

Always, it’s a sad story: a young person, in this case a 22-year-old woman, diagnosed with a deadly disease. Brain tumor. Even with all the marvels of modern medicine, nothing could be done until the inevitable. But this young woman, “Sandy,” didn’t want to die.

So, she had a plan. After she died, her head would be put in a deep freeze, into a vat of liquid nitrogen, in hopes of preserving her brain cells. And there it would wait, fifty years, one hundred years, a thousand years, until sometime in the future, when technology had advanced enough so that her brain, composed of neural connections, could then be uploaded into a computer. And yes, Sandy could “live” on, maybe even forever.

Sad story, not just because a young person was going to die but because of where she put her hope of life. Like most people, Sandy wanted life, wanted to live. But she chose a path that, in the end, surely won’t work.

SABBATH: In the age of modern medicine, some are selling the idea of living eternally through the use of liquid nitrogen. Cryonicists say that it’s wrong to refer to a dead body as a corpse. Instead, the dead is just “deanimated.” Sandy who had cancer had a plan to also preserve her brain in this liquid after death believing that future technology will revive her. Eternal life is only in God (the Giver).

SUNDAY: Adam & Eve, the leaves & rocks didn’t choose to come into existence. Such is our case. What God offers is the choice to remain in existence—to choose eternal life in Him. Eden had the “tree of life” which could prolong life. When Adam sinned, the pair lost access to the tree. From onset, man had two choices; eternal life or eternal death (Gen. 2:8, 9, 15-17, 3:22, 23, GC, p. 532,533, Rev. 2:7, 22:2, 14).

MONDAY: We work for God or for Satan. Either we’re wholeheartedly Christians or none at all. There’s no middle ground—we are hot or cold. Man has always had only two choices. Those who are willing to make any sacrifice for eternal life will have it (John 3:16, Gen. 7:22, 23,Rom. 6:23, 8:6, 1 John 5:12, Matt. 7:24-27). At the end of the great controversy, sin & sinners will be destroyed (2 Thess. 1:9).

TUESDAY: The long discourse in Deuteronomy about the result of disobeying God ends with a message of grace. All repentant sinners would be saved. Though the Israel may go into exile, God will restore the nation. God has always be plain with man; we’re to choose good over evil if we’re to have eternal life (Deut. 30:15-20). Sin brings death, evil, & curses. Use the gift of free will wisely.

WEDNESDAY: God offers grace but not cheap grace. Christ died for us. We have a sacrifice to make to earn God’s grace. We shall find everything worth dying for if we want eternal life. No task will be too hard for us (Deut. 30:1-10). God’s promises to Israel would do the nation no good if they sinned against Him. We’re to love God back for His love (Deut. 30:11-14, COL, p. 333, Rom. 10:16-10).

THURSDAY: God doesn’t accept partial obedience. He is a jealous God. We either worship Him who brings life or other gods which brings evil & death. Worship was key in God’s covenant with Israel. Unlike other nations, Israel was the only nation who worshipped the true God (Deut. 32:39, 4:19, 8:19, 11:16, 30:17, 4:24, 5:9, 6:15). God won’t force us to worship Him like the beast (Rev. 13:1-15; 14:6-12).

FRIDAY: We cannot alter our DNA, but the power of choice is ours. Daily, out of willful choice we make a decision to serve God or Satan; to be saved or lost. God has not predestined some to be saved or lost. The gift of freewill comes with the sacred duty of choosing blessings or curses. Sin leads to eternal death not eternal torment. God bids us to choose life not death (Rom. 6:23, Deut. 30:15).

Discussion Questions

? In class, talk more about the idea presented in Tuesday’s study, about whether it is God who directly brings punishment here and now for disobedience or whether it comes as a law-like consequence of the acts of disobedience. Or might it be both? Might there be cases where it is one or the other? How do we understand this topic?

? What do the texts we looked at in the Ellen White statement today teach us about the power of God available to us to overcome sin?

? Read Romans 10:1-10, where Paul quotes from Deuteronomy 30:11-14 as he expounds on salvation by faith in Jesus in contrast to seeking salvation and righteousness through the law. Why do you think he used these verses from Deuteronomy? Pay special attention to Romans 10:10: “For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (NKJV). What point is Paul making?

ZBC Engineer Nabbed Over T Freddy Extortion

By A Correspondent| In another twist, an engineer at ZBC on Friday appeared in court on allegations of attempting to extort Prophet Tapiwa Freddy of US$20 000 after threatening to expose a love affair between  the prophet and radio presenter Rutendo Makuti.

Mutetepi Maushe (36) was not asked to plead to extortion charges when he appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi, who remanded him to December 7 on free bail.

Maushe purported to be Rutendo’s brother in the alleged bid to extort.

Rutendo was married to 2013 Presidential candidate, Kisinoti Munodei Mukwazhe who died in November 2019.

According to the State, sometime last year, Goodness and Mercy Ministries leader T Freddy was involved in a love affair with Makuti.

During the relationship, Mutetepi allegedly connived with Rutendo to extort money from Freddy and started threatening him as a brother to her. He was using the name Tapson Makuti.

Allegations are that Mutetepi instructed Freddy, in a phone call, to pay Rutendo US$20 000 for their love affair not to be exposed to the public and to avoid allegations of rape against him.

Sometime this month, Mutetepi called Freddy and allegedly gave him an ultimatum of up to the end of the day to pay the US$20 000 and sign a document admitting that he raped his “sister”.

Freddy noted the extortionist tendencies and reported the matter to police.

Meanwhile, Radio Zimbabwe presenter Rutendo appeared in court on November 12 accused of extorting Freddy for US$35,000.

Rutendo, 33, was granted Z$5,000 bail by Harare magistrate Sheunesu Matova, who remanded her to December 9.

The court heard that sometime in 2020, Freddy had an affair with Makuti who later threatened that if he did not meet her financial and material demands, she would expose the affair.

It is alleged that sometime in August 2021, Freddy was summoned by Chief Chikwaka of Goromonzi. Upon his arrival at the chief’s homestead, he received information that there were some police officers who wanted to extort him at the chief’s residence.

Freddy, says the prosecution, drove off without entering the chief’s home.

The preacher was stopped by police officers at a roadblock on Mutoko Road not too far from the chief’s home.

The officers, the court heard, told Freddy that they had been given instructions by their superior, an Inspector Jaji, and Chief Chikwaka not to allow him passage.

PSL Reviews Gate Charges

The Premier Soccer League has, for the second time, reviewed the gate charges for the Castle Lager Premiership matches in the 2021 season.

The PSL had initially pegged the lowest at $20 when fans were allowed into stadiums in October before putting it at $10 following a major outcry.

After consultation with stakeholders, the League has again reduced the lowest ticket to $3.

In a statement, PSL said: “The Premier Soccer League has engaged various stakeholders including club supporters associations concerning gate charges for PSL matches.

“While the PSL notes that clubs suffered huge financial losses during the Covid-19 pandemic and continue to incur a lot of costs in preparation for matches, we also understand the need to make our matches appealing and affordable to football fans who are the heartbeat of the game.

“Taking into account the above, the PSL has reviewed gate charges for all PSL matches effective from the Chibuku Super Cup Semi-finals to be played this weekend”
