The European Union (EU) reiterates its ambition for a more constructive relationship with Zimbabwe at all levels.
The EU has reviewed its restrictive measures in respect of Zimbabwe and in this context recalls the Council Conclusions of 17 February 2020 as %/tell as the Declaration by the Ugh Representative on behalf of the EU of 19 February 2021.
Since then, the situation in term of respect for human rights has not improved in Zimbabwe. The EU is concerned about these developments Perpetrators of human rights violations should be swiftly brought to justice to end impunity. The recommendations of the Motlanthe Corrrnission of Inquiry have not been followed substantially and need to be implemented as a matter of priority and urgency. It is important that international human rights obligations are adhered to and the constitutional rights of the people of Zimbabwe respected.

The measures in place are targeted and very limited, therefore they do not affect the people of Zimbabwe. its economy. foreign direct investments. or trade. Zimbabwe continues to benefit from duty free and quota free access of its exports to the EU. while negotiations are ongoing to deepen the Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA) Economic Partnership Agreement. There is significant potential in terms of investments and jobs opportunities, if structural bottlenecks vere to be addressed. and political and economic reforms including enhancing trust in the rule of law, tackling corruption and respect for human rights, are implemented.
The EU reiterates its readiness to support credible and sustainable economic and political reforms. based on tangible commitments made by the Government of Zimbabwe. The EU will continue to support the people of Zimbabwe focusing on three priority areas as aligned with the Zimbabwe’s National Development Strategy: (i) good governance and citizens’ rights: (ii) green economic growth and (iii) social recovery and human development. The EU commits itself to enhancing common efforts on addressing climate change on the basis of the Zimbabwean and EU commitments at COP26. By-Douglas Mwonzora’s Mutare councillor Farai Bhiza who collapsed last week after losing the mayoral elections has spoken out.
Bhiza lost the mayoral seat to Nelson Chamisa’s Citizens Coalition for Change Simon Chabuka.
He said people were now mocking him for the loss as if he had lost presidential elections.
Bhiza was acting Mutare mayor when he lost the elections after Chabuka won six votes to five. He reportedly collapsed after the results were announced.
The mayoral elections were held to replace former Mutare mayor Blessing Tandi, recalled recently by the MDC Alliance led by Douglas Mwonzora.
Bhiza told NewsDay on Sunday that people are spreading lies that he fainted.
I did not faint; it is just politics at play. People are mocking me as if I lost a presidential election. We should focus on service delivery, not the gossiping. You hear about me fainting, but the mayoral elections are over and we need to work as councillors to produce the best service delivery in Mutare. Currently, I am in my ward serving my people.
Medical personnel was reportedly called in to assist him after the loss.
Mutare has 11 remaining councillors after seven were recalled and the vacant seats will be filled on March 26 when the by-elections will be held.

By SABC/Correspondent- South African Police Minister Bheki Cele has confirmed the gunning down of eight armed robbers by the police in a foiled money heist this afternoon in Rosettenvill, Johannesburg.
Two of the police officials are in critical condition and have been airlifted to the Milpark Hospital. The shootout near the South Rand Hospital happened after the police intercepted the gang of about 25 before they could attack a cash-in-transit van.
Cele said eight suspects have been arrested and police have launched a manhunt for the nine who fled. He said the police decided to open fire after the robbers shot at a police helicopter and wounded the pilot. He added that they were dealing with hardcore criminals, based on the high-speed cars as well as firearms that were recovered at the scene.
“These guys were about 25 of them, eight of them are dead and eight are arrested. We still want some more that have moved there. Except for one who comes from Botswana, they all come from Zimbabwe and KZN. They’re well-armed, they all have mostly AKs about 6 or 7 AKs here, with double magazines, which means they’re here for the business. The surprising one is the one that shot the helicopter and injured the pilot.”

By-President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Sunday failed to attend a Zanu PF rally which his deputy Constantino Chiwenga addressed in Marondera.
Bussed supporters attended the Marondera rally.
Mnangagwa failed to attend the rally at Marondera’s Rudhaka Stadium despite being advertised as the star of the rally.
More than 100 buses were used to transport supporters to Marondera, despite the police barring the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party from doing the same at its Highfield rally, which took place on the same day as well.
Only politburo members from the province attended the rally.
The few party bigwigs, who attended Chiwenga’s rally, were political commissar Mike Bimha, Patrick Chinamasa (secretary for finance) and Sydney Sekeramayi.
In his address, Chiwenga said the government was trying to fix the black market which he said had destabilised the economy.
“The black market has led to price hikes. We can’t afford our daily needs. It has also led to our local currency losing value. So the government is in the process of fixing this mess. Those found on the wrong side of the law will be dealt with accordingly,” Chiwenga said.
“We have warned you and we are going to make sure that you won’t come out of jail if arrested. We are going to introduce hefty measures. So people, please help us catch those wrongdoers who are dragging us behind.”
Recently, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe blamed the widening exchange rate premiums on the alternative market which it said was stoking inflation and price increases since July last year.
Chiwenga said the country would not adopt the use foreign currency in the future.
“Using other currencies brings nothing, but poverty. The use of United States dollars is devaluing our local currency.
“The use of US dollars came after the Global Political Agreement (GPA) and the likes of (Tendai) Biti (former Finance minister) wanted to use foreign currency. We do not want foreign currency, we want our Zimbabwean dollar,” he said.
Chiwenga, a former army general, reiterated that Zanu PF would continue to rule and that the nation will be developed without reliance on foreign aid.
Marondera town had a massive facelift ahead of the rally, with roads rehabilitated, among other infrastructure in anticipation of Mnangagwa’s visit.
Three constituencies and 10 wards are vacant due to deaths or recalls of MPs and councillors.
By-Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga Sunday rubbished civil servants’ United Dollar salary request before threatening black market money traders with lengthy jail terms.
Chiwenga rubbished civil servants foreign currency salaries request and declared that the country would not dollarize.
He said this despite a sharp weakening of the Zimdollar.
Addressing a Zanu PF rally in Marondera where most attendees were bussed to the venue, Chiwenga said black market trade was fuelling spikes in prices of essential goods and services.

By- Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa Sunday addressed thousands of his party supporters at Zimbabwe Grounds in Highfield, Harare, who defied police restrictions and marched to the venue after the law enforcement agents barred them from using buses.
Police mounted several roadblocks leading to Highfield with some car queues stretching for more than 5km, especially on roads from Chitungwiza.
Police were not allowing vehicles with more than three passengers to pass through the checkpoints.
This forced CCC supporters to walk long distances to the rally. Some of the supporters claimed that they walked from Ruwa, Glen View and other suburbs in Harare.
In his address, Chamisa said CCC had tasked some “experts” to analyse the voters roll, which exposed anomalies.
He said some of the anomalies included creation of additional polling stations and moving people from polling stations without their consent.
Chamisa said the party would engage in protests until the electoral body adhered to its mandate as stipulated in the Constitution.
Nelson Chamisa, his wife and Lynette Kore
“We commissioned experts to analyse the voters roll. I had been tipped off by some senior government officials that the document was being tampered with. We have infiltrators in government departments — we have infiltrated all government departments,” Chamisa said.
“We will not let Zec get away with its manipulation. Starting with this by-election, if Zec does not address these anomalies, it will not be well. There will be instability in the country. On the issue of voter manipulation, do not panic. We have strategies.
The first strategy is to ensure that Zec policies are compatible with the Constitution. If they don’t heed our demands, then we will take legal remedies. But we know that the courts may not be able to deliver justice fairly. We have our own solution. We will go to the streets. We will protest against Zec.”
Last Thursday, Zec disowned the voters roll that is being analysed by civic society organisations and suspended some of its employees for allegedly leaking a copy of the national voters roll and sharing the “tampered” document with an unnamed stakeholder.
Chamisa also encouraged teachers to continue fighting for their rights, demanding better salaries. He promised that his “government-in-waiting” would improve their conditions of service when it assumes power.
Teachers have been on strike since schools reopened two weeks ago, demanding better salaries.
In response, the government said it would fire teachers who would not have reported for work by tomorrow and replace them with college graduates.
“Teachers are wallowing in poverty. Civil servants have become poor. Teachers have made their demands clear. They want their Mugabe (the late former President Robert) era dignity to be restored. What is happening now? Teachers are being victimised, they are being abused, and they are being fired and accused of being aligned to Chamisa,” the CCC leader said.
CCC by-election campaign launch at Highfields Zimbabwe Grounds, Harare
“I am not the poverty. They want better salaries. Teachers — don’t be intimidated. Fight for your rights, for the meantime, but when we are in power, we will restore the dignity you had during Mugabe’s era. A teacher is the foundation of the development of the country. A teacher is the guardian of the destiny of any nation. A teacher is the compass of civilisation. All civil servants, the army, police and the central intelligence know that if this government has failed you, then you have to replace it with a capable government.”
The youthful leader told his supporters that CCC was a new political outfit, which had not yet elected its executive as consultations with the “people” were underway.
Speaking at the same event, former Zanu PF youth leader Godfrey Tsenengamu said he was rallying behind Chamisa’s promise to turn around the economy.
Tsenenagmu, now leader of the Front for Economic Emancipation in Zimbabwe, said: “I was there (in Zanu PF). I rose through the ranks up to the central committee. I am one person who supported the removal of Mugabe, hoping that he (President Emmerson Mnangagwa) would turn things around. Some people thought that he (Mnangagwa) meant change and we supported him, but we realised that there is no change. We thought looting (which took place) under Mugabe would end, but it has become worse. I am here because I support gatherings where issues of development are being discussed. We may have different ideologies, but something for sure is that you (Chamisa) are a force to reckon with.”
During the rally, journalists failed to livestream the proceedings amid claims that there was deliberate slowing down of internet services to stop the CCC rally from being publicised on social media.
An international watchdog that monitors cyber-security and the governance of the internet, Netblocks reported that there was a significant slowing of internet services for many users in Zimbabwe as CCC held its rally, which impacted multiple operators and prevented livestreaming from the rally.
Netblocks said metrics were consistent with the “slowing, or throttling of services”, but could not conclusively identify the cause of network disruption.
“Confirmed metrics indicate that internet service is degraded for many users in Zimbabwe; the incident is likely to limit livestreaming and access to online content as #YellowSunday opposition rallies are held at Highfield, Harare,” the watchdog said on Twitter. Newsday
30 MDC T Mwonzora Highfield West members including district chairperson Wilbert Mutero join Citizens Coalition for Change party today
21 February 2022
Wezhira Munya
MDC T Mwonzora in turmoil after Highfield East District Chairperson and 30 members joined President Nelson Chamisa’s party today.
Mr Wilbert Mutero the MDC T Mwonzora chair said, “We have joined President Chamisa’s party because of it’s popularity, capacity to dislodge Zanu PF and bring total transformation in Zimbabwe.”
He further added, “l left Mwonzora’s party because of its proximity to Zanu PF. There are lot of conflicts in MDC T and have no solid structures across Zimbabwe.”
Highfield West member of Parliament seat was left vaccant after Mwonzora recalled Hon Eric Murai accusing him of supporting President Nelson Chamisa.”
Hon. Eric Murai said, “We as Citizens Coalition for Change under President Chamisa welcome Mr Mutero and 30 MDC T members who joined us. We are a party that loves people. We are recruiting people to win by elections and 2023 harmonised elections. Our target is 6 million votes.”
The Highfield West CCC in on a massive door to door campaigns preparing to win resoundingly on 26 March 2022 by elections.
Mwonzora has lost many members since he took over presidency of MDC T in 2019 at violent extraordinary congress where Dr Khupe was beaten.
In addition, Khupe declared MDC T split from Mwonzora’s MDC T. Khupe went with large number of supporters across Zimbabwe.
In South Africa , former MDC T provincial chairperson Shelton Chiyangwa and many leaders dumped Mwonzora and joined CCC .
These defections affect Mwonzora’s quest to win 26 March 2022 by elections.
After 60 000 powerful supporters that graced CCC by elections launch, many people have agreed that it’s only President Chamisa and his party that have capacity to win 2023 elections.
Mwonzora and MDC T are just Zanu PF proxy pushing for Unity Government under disguise of Rational Disputation.
The writer is reliable informed that there are more defections from MDC T led by Mwonzora that are coming soon . Some senior national MDC T members , council and members will join CCC very soon especially towards 2023 by elections.
More details to follow .
By-Zanu PF recently sent a delegation to Lusaka, Zambia, led by Secretary for Administration Obert Mpofu in an attempt to improve diplomatic relations with the neighbouring country’s ruling United Party for National Development (UPND).
This comes after main opposition leader Nelson Chamisa, who is reported to be close to Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema’s ruling UPND, launched a new party, the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC).
The NewsHawks reported sources on both sides of the Zambezi River as saying the Zanu PF delegation visited Lusaka this week.
The delegation included the party’s secretary for foreign affairs Simbarashe Mumbengegwi and secretary for finance Patrick Chinamasa.
Part of the agenda of the meeting included formal party-to-party introductions; developing a fraternal relationship between the two parties which never existed and opening new lines of communication for engagement, among items.
A source told The NewsHawks:
There were many issues that arose during the meeting that Zanu PF sought. However, for Zanu PF the bottom line was sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs – a Mugabeist philosophy and mindset that still lingers on, while also isolating the CCC in. the process.
For the UPND, it was the issues that Hichilema campaigned on that mattered the most: Democracy, good governance, anti-corruption and economic reform, as well human right and change.
That is why in the end, there was no meeting of minds. Both parties hold mutual contempt for each other, hence worlds apart.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Zanu PF are reportedly worried Hichilema would snub them and support Nelson Chamisa’s CCC.
Zanu is worried Hichilema will become part of a network in the region that may support change in the region and fund the opposition, including the CCC.
Hichilema campaigned on the ticket of democracy, good governance, anti-corruption and reform – values and issues the Zanu PF-led government detests.

By A Correspondent- The government is on a collision course with human rights groups and its workers after saying its unvaccinated workers would not receive salaries.
Last week, Public Service Commission (PSC) secretary Jonathan Wutawunashe in communiqué said: “In line with section 3(a)(i) and (ii) of Statutory Instrument 234 of 2021, members not vaccinated should be barred from the workplace and should not be paid while they are barred. Any member that is not fully vaccinated without a reasonable excuse shall be subject to disciplinary proceedings.”
However, civil servants’ unions yesterday said Zimbabwe had no laws that compel people to undergo compulsory vaccinations.
“Government has an obligation to respect the rights of its workers,” Zimbabwe Nurses Association (Zina) president Enock Dongo told NewsDay.
“We actually encourage members to get vaccinated because of the many advantages which include reducing new infections, hospitalisations and deaths. But we are also saying some have genuine reasons why they don’t want to be vaccinated and they must not be forced.”
Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) president Takavafira Zhou said: “As much as we encourage our members to be vaccinated, we are against any mandatory vaccination. The government must invest in incentives for vaccination.”
PTUZ secretary for health Nyaradzo Munjodzi added: “While we encourage people to be vaccinated, we have always said compelling people to do so is violation of individual rights.”
The World Health Organisation has said mandatory vaccination should only be considered after all measures to encourage voluntary inoculation had failed.

Chiwenga, a former army general, reiterated that Zanu-PF would continue to rule and that the nation will be developed without reliance on foreign aid.

By A Correspondent- MDC Alliance president Douglas Mwonzora has revealed that talks between President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his party to form a government of national unity (GNU) were at an advanced stage.
Mwonzora made the remarks at his weekend rally at Pelandaba Hall in Bulawayo, adding that he would not seek to be prime minister (PM) in the proposed GNU.
“I presented Mnangagwa with a letter with 21 points spelling out the kind of Zimbabwe that we want as a party. Very soon, there shall be talks of dialogue. I went back to meet him in January, as MDC-T. I am not involved in these talks so that I become PM, or that some of our MPs can become ministers, but we want to bring peace and prosperity to the country,” Mwonzora said.
“All conflicts that have bedevilled the country in the past have been resolved through dialogue like the talks that culminated in a GNU.”
Mwonzora told his supporters that he regretted the split between him and his former deputy, Thokozani Khupe, who has now declared herself the MDC-T leader.
MDC Alliance national chairperson Morgen Komichi said the last battle for the party after winning several court cases against the then MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa would be to win the 2023 elections.
Bulawayo mayor Solomon Mguni and Nketa Emganwini MP Phelela Masuku, who is now the provincial chairperson of the party, as well as other MPs belonging to Mwonzora’s party attended the event.
The party fielded eight candidates for council seats who will contest in the March 26 by-elections.
By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Teachers Association (Zimta) has urged its members to return to work tomorrow ahead of a government deadline for them to stop their job action or risk being fired, but other unions resolved to soldier on until their salary demands were met.
Government said it planned to replace teachers who fail to report for duty with college graduates.
Zimta president Richard Gundani said his union, the largest with about 42 000 members, had resolved to return to work to protect the education sector.
“Incapacitation is not an imagined situation, incapacitation is not a strike, and it is a real situation which comes about with a cause, which is the salary. As a result, absenteeism becomes the order of the day. We have lessons to take away from the situation which is to say education is the loser and the learners are the losers. As we agree to go back to work from February 22, we are protecting professionalism.
We are committed educators and we respect this noble profession, and that is why we are educators. We have committed ourselves that the best foot forward is to engage in constructive engagement and social dialogue with the government so that any industrial conflict is ultimately resolved,” Gundani said.
But other unions have vowed that their members will not report for work despite the threat of dismissal.
Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Takavafira Zhou criticised Zimta, saying it has weakened the teachers’ struggle to fight for better pay.
“That agreement has ultimately affected the teachers. It is better to make decisions based on teachers that are in schools that are suffering and not necessarily on the feelings of leaders. The decision has put teachers in a quandary because we need to be united. It would be difficult to continue the war as a divided device. There is always need for unity in order to achieve maximum benefits from the employer rather than from a divided position,” Zhou said.
Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (Artuz) president Obert Masaraure said: “The union aristocrats at Zimta have always been keen to frog-march teachers back to the classroom. The rank and file teachers are consistent that only US$540 will take them to the classroom. Teachers have to decide whether to follow the instruction from leaders who are divorced from the lived realities of teachers, or they continue with the fight for a living wage.”
Last week, Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare deputy minister Lovemore Matuke told Parliament that the government had addressed their grievances after awarding public workers a 20% salary adjustment and US$100 cash which will be deducted from their local currency salary component.
“I think we should thank the government for providing such a good reward. I do not think going forward we will get teachers complaining, but as our economy improves, I think we will still revert to our Zimbabwe dollar 100%,” Matuke said.
By A Correspondent- The Supreme Court has blocked the government from seizing self-exiled former Cabinet minister Jonathan Moyo’s Patterson Farm in Mazowe, in a ruling that stated that the State should not interfere with operations at the property.
The late Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Settlement minister Perrance Shiri in 2019 withdrew Moyo’s offer letter, claiming that the farm was under-utilised. Barclos Mujuru had taken occupation of the farm since October 2020.
Moyo, through his lawyer Chris Mhike, said they were expecting the order to be effected by the sheriff soon.
“We expect service of the document to be effected by the sheriff in the coming days. It is our expectation that the Supreme Court directive will be duly fully complied with by the respondents.” Mhike told NewsDay yesterday.
Moyo, who co-owns the farm with his wife Beatrice, challenged the seizure and accused the Zanu-PF government of systematically grabbing his property and others owned by the G40 cabal.
He also alleged that the government grabbed his 623-hectare farm to “fix” him after he recently published the “hard-hitting” book Excelgate chronicling how President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Zanu-PF rigged the July 30, 2018 general elections.
The Supreme Court last Monday, however, granted an interim order in favour of Moyo stating that: “Until a final decision relating to the rights of the parties can be made by this court under case number HC290/20, or the return date of this application, whichever happens sooner, the state of occupation by applicants in respect of the remainder of Patterson Farm in Mazowe shall not be interfered with by the respondents, its employees or assignees.”
In court papers, Moyo said he was served with a withdrawal of his offer letter as he prepared for the 2019/20 farming season.
Moyo, who went into exile following the then President Robert Mugabe’s ouster in November 2017, said the withdrawal of the offer letter by Shiri was politically motivated.
Moyo said he acquired the farm from the State through a transparent process and government had not paid him back the money he paid in terms of the agreement entered into by the parties.
He also said he was not given an opportunity to respond to Shiri after the Lands minister informed him that his offer letter ha been withdrawn.
In his application, Moyo indicated that he was willing to downsize the farm for other beneficiaries.
By A Correspondent- Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has boldly claimed he will be Zimbabwe’s next president, saying Zanu-PF leader, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has no chance of winning next year’s presidential election.
He said this in his address to multitudes of CCC supporters at the Zimbabwe Grounds in Highfield, Harare, who defied police restrictions and marched to the venue after the law enforcement agents barred them from using buses and mounted roadblocks on all major roads.
Chamisa also took a swipe at the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) saying his party will wage a sustained war against the electoral body until it addresses allegations of manipulating the voters roll and alleged mismanagement of elections.
“I am going to govern this country whether you like it or not, you saw change happening in Zambia and it is going to happen here,” Chamisa declared.
Chamisa said CCC had tasked some “experts” to analyse the voters roll, which exposed anomalies.
He said some of the anomalies included creation of additional polling stations and moving people from polling stations without their consent.
Chamisa said the party would engage in protests until the electoral body adhered to its mandate as stipulated in the Constitution.
“The first strategy is to ensure that Zec policies are compatible with the Constitution.
Speaking at the same event, former Zanu-PF youth leader Godfrey Tsenengamu said he was rallying behind Chamisa’s promise to turn around the economy.
Tsenenagmu, now leader of the Front for Economic Emancipation in Zimbabwe, said: “I was there (in Zanu-PF).
By A Correspondent- Police have raised concern over an increase of rape cases countrywide where women and girls are being sexually abused by known relatives, friends and landlords.
Police also urged members of the public to desist leaving the girl child in the custody with strangers.
In their Twitter page, police said a number of rape cases from different parts of the country were trickling in where brothers, uncles, grandfathers, landlords and cousin brothers are cited as suspects.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police encourages parents and guardians not to leave their children with strangers, especially girls” read the statement.
“On February 10 an infant aged five was raped by her grandfather along the way to the garden at Janke Village, Lupane, and Matabeleland North. In another case, a 16-year-old girl was raped in her bedroom by her grandfather (45) on February 12 at Mashaba Village, Guyu in Gwanda, Matabeleland South,” said police.
“On Valentine’s Day, a 14 year old juvenile was raped by her landlord (42) in Pumula Old in Bulawayo. In another case, a mentally challenged juvenile aged 13 was raped by her brother on an unknown date in 2021 at Cheumba Village in Hwange.”
Police said members of the public must quickly report cases of rape and not try to sweep such matter under the carpet.
Last week, Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said serial rapists are on the prowl in Bulawayo, targeting teenage girls who have relatives in the diaspora.
The rapists allegedly ask the girls to accompany them to collect groceries and, on the way, they rape their victims
He said there are rapists who are on the loose, luring teenagers under the pretext that they should accompany them to collect parcels sent by their relatives from South Africa.
“Police in Bulawayo are investigating two cases of rape which occurred in Gwabalanda and Luveve on the 12th of February 2022. The complainants are a female adult aged 18 years of Njube suburb, Bulawayo and a female juvenile aged 15 years of Old Pumula, Bulawayo,” said Insp Ncube.
“We appeal to members of the public to assist with information which may lead to the arrest of the accused persons.”
Statistics from the Zimbabwe Gender Commission show that 22 women are raped daily, one in every 75 minutes.
On average, 646 women are sexually abused monthly, with one in three girls raped or sexually assaulted before they reach the age of 18 in Zimbabwe.-statemedia
Despite Zanu PF and security forces jamming the internet and putting roadblocks to deny Chamisa’s supporters access to rally.
As SABC 404, ZimParly, ZimLive, Zimeye, Radio Change and other internation and local new channels cover Chamisa’s rally
21 February 2022

Since the announcement of bye elections by Zanu PF president Mnangagwa, there was political discourse around which is a powerful and popular political party in Zimbabwe. The question could not be answered because of COVID-19 induced lockdown.
However, the COVID-19 lockdown was uplifted and now political parties are allowed to participate freely except Citizens Coalition for Change whose campaigns across Zimbabwe has been met with police brutality.
Politics is a game of numbers. Numbers shapes people’s perceptions about the party, it’s popularity and election performance.
A lot had changed since 2018, harmonised elections where President Chamisa contested under MDC Alliance banner and had over 2million votes. Zanu PF president had over 2million votes and MDC T led by Khupe had
45 000 votes.
However, Zanu PF under Mnangagwa and MDC T had an agenda to destroy President Chamisa and MDC Alliance. Their plan was successfully executed by Constitutional court, where President Chamisa was regarded as illegitimate MDC T leader. The Constitutional court gave MDC T leadership to Khupe on acting basis. In December 2019, Zanu PF sponsored MDC T with Zupco buses and money to hold ordinary congress. The congress was marred by massive vote rigging and violence by Mwonzora faction against Khupe , Komichi and Mudzuri. Mwonzora became the president of MDC T. To consolidate his power Mwonzora vindictively used recalls as his weapon to instil fear in elected MDC Alliance councillors and members of Parliament. He successfully recalled members of Parliament and councillors who showed their support to president Chamisa. To incapacitate President Chamisa, Zanu PF and MDC T Mwonzora collectively stole political funds , Harvest House, Alliance name, party symbols, provincial party offices , party cars and other aspects from President Chamisa.
However, Zanu PF and MDC T failed to steal millions of voters and supporters from President Chamisa. To support this argument, yesterday 60 000 vibrant yellow submarine supporters attended Chamisa’s rally. This is despite police brutality and roadblocks. Surely, political capital are the people.
A day before the rally, 70 Chamisa’s supporters were arrested in Masvingo, 13 supporters arrested in Harare on 18th February 2022 and one supporter in Harare East was beaten by Zanu PF violent thugs.
Contrary, MDC T led by Mwonzora had its first rally at Zororo ground in Harare without any intimidation from police and busing people but only 300 people attended. Last week on Saturday 19th February 2022, MDC T led by Mwonzora held its rally in Phelandaba Hall, the oldest and smallest hall in Bulawayo. It has sitting capacity of 70 people.
On the other hand, Zanu PF held its first bye election rally in Epworth in Harare where thousands supporters were bused from as far as Mutare and Masvingo.
Both Zanu PF and MDC T Mwonzora’s rally had a positive coverage on ZBC TV.
But, yesterday, Chamisa’s supporters walked to Zimbabwe grounds, some use their private cars and some used bicycles. Police was on full force denying supporters access to the rally venue. Due to resilience and love for their party, 60 000 congregated and president Chamisa delivered one of his best speeches.
Although internet was jammed, President Chamisa’s supporters who were denied access to attended the rally physically depended on internet platforms: Approximately over 4 million people followed president Chamisa’s rally.
Random stats are as follows: 54 000 viewers watched ZimParly, 15 000 watched Zimeye, 80 000 viewers followed Radio Change, Millions followed SABC 404 which covered Chamisa’s rally on 1pm and 6pm news bulletin and had CCC spokesperson at 9pm special program yesterday. Studio 7 also had many viewers following CCC rally news.
In politics, there is no bad publicity, yesterday, ZBC TV 8pm news covered president Chamisa’s rally in a negative way. The headline of ZBC T news reads: “Chamisa urge his supporters to topple the government”. President Chamisa never said this in his speech yesterday.
By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) has introduced new Zimbabwe General Certificates of Education (ZGCE) certificates at Ordinary and Advanced levels that have advanced security features to reduce fraudulent qualifications.
Zimsec said the new certificates will be rolled out before the end of this month, with the issuance of the November 2020 public examinations results certificates. The council said certificates issued before 2020 remain valid both locally and internationally.
“Zimsec would like to inform its valued stakeholders of the introduction of ZGCE certificates at Ordinary and Advanced levels. The first batch of the new certificates has been rolled out this month with the issuance of the November 2020 certificates,” reads the statement.
“The introduction of the new ZGCE certificates is an important and progressive move in line with global assessment trends. This will improve the security and safeguard the integrity of the certificates and qualifications through the new advanced security features which have been included. Notwithstanding, all Zimsec certificates issued prior to 2020 remain valid for use both local and internationally.”
Zimsec also said it offers a facility where certificates can be verified for authenticity to curb the use of fraudulent qualifications.
The service is offered to private and public institutions/ corporations, educational institutions, embassies and regional and international qualifications authorities.
According to Zimsec, certificates are issued for subjects in which candidates achieve grade E or better and it cannot combine grades obtained from various sittings into a single certificate.
“Candidates are advised to laminate certificates for protection against natural elements such as weather and against fraud. When a certificate is lost, Zimsec does not issue a duplicate certificate but can provide a certifying statement of results for a fee,” Zimsec said in a separate statement on its website.
“A prospective employer or tertiary institution can request for a confirmation of results for a specific person from Zimsec. Certifying statements and confirmation letters do not accommodate any subsequent name changes by individuals. Certificates tampered with, such as those altered by pen or computer, are nullified by Zimsec without replacement.”-statemedia
By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has urged parents and guardians not to leave their children with strangers, especially girls.
This comes after a 12 year old juvenile was allegedly raped by a herdboy at Gohole Village, Chief Nyangazonke, Maphisa on Thursday.
The victim had been left home with the suspect as the aunt went to the fields.
Police have since arrested the suspect and he is expected to appear in court soon.
By A Correspondent- Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has urged teachers not to be intimidated by the Government for asking for a living wage.
Last week, the Zimbabwe Public Service Commission (PSC) gave all teachers, deputy heads and heads of schools who are on strike to report for duty by Tuesday 22 February 2022 or be deemed to have resigned from the service.
Thousands of teachers have not reported for duty since schools reopened on 7 February, demanding the restoration of the pre-October 2018 salaries.
Addressing thousands of CCC supporters who braved the high daytime temperatures to throng the Zimbabwe Grounds in Highfield, Harare this Sunday, Chamisa said he will restore teachers’ salaries if voted into office. He said:
I know that teachers are suffering, workers are suffering. Teachers are not asking for much, they are just asking government to pay it the same amount they got under (late President Robert) Mugabe, under then finance minister Tendi Biti but they are now being beaten, threatened, they are now being fired and accused of being sent by Chamisa.
If people get hungry they have every right to ask for food. Teachers go ahead and get angry, do not be intimidated.
The moment we get into governance we will pay you what you were being paid by Mugabe or more because teachers are the backbone of a nation.
Chamisa, a 44-year-old lawyer and pastor, formed CCC in January, making a break from the country’s longtime opposition party, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).
His maiden rally as CCC leader attracted thousands of people despite police mounting roadblocks on major roads leading to the venue.
Vice President Constantino Chiwenga hired more than 100 buses to transport supporters to his Marondera Rudhaka Stadium function, despite the police barring the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party from doing the same at its Highfield rally which took place on the same day.

By A Correspondent- A suspected fraudster hacked an Econet Wireless mobile number and used it to gain access to several WhatsApp groups where he purported to be exchanging Zimbabwe dollars for US dollars at a favourable rate.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said several relatives of the victim of the hacker responded positively to the message and in no time they had deposited $2 580 000 into three ZB Bank accounts.
In a post on their Twitter page, ZRP said when one of the victims tried to call the number, it was not being answered, prompting him to alert the bank to freeze the account.
The police did not indicate if the money was withdrawn from the accounts or identify the individual in whose name the accounts were opened.
Police said:
The ZRP is investigating a case of fraud where an unknown suspect hacked mobile number 0772967506 on 16/02/22 and accessed some WhatsApp groups where he advertised for an exchange of RTGS transfer for USD currencies.
Several family members responded positively and $2 580 000 was deposited into ZB Bank account numbers 4506676529200, 4506301678200 and 4528281444200.
After depositing the money, one of the victims tried to call the number and it was not being answered prompting him to alert the bank and freeze the mentioned account numbers.
By- MDC-T president Douglas Mwonzora continues to attract little figures after an estimated 300 people turned up for his Bulawayo rally Saturday.
The rally was held at Phelendaba Hall in Bulawayo.
It was rally was the first one in the city since his ascendency to the MDC-T leadership in December 2020.
Mwonzora was in the second largest city to drum up support for his candidates ahead of the March 26 by-elections.
Addressing his supporters, the former MDC-T Secretary General reiterated his desire to dialogue with Zanu PF and President Emmerson Mnangagwa in a move which he said is the only solution to suffering Zimbabweans.
“Very soon we will be starting the issue of dialogue. We are going for dialogue, not to become ministers, but to fix the country’s problems. Our discussion points are that in Zimbabwe there should be everlasting peace,” Mwonzora said.
“The blood that was shed of our people is enough and we say enough is enough. We don’t want again here in Zimbabwe, to have one beating another or kill another over politics. This is exactly what is on our agenda for dialogue,” he said.
He described himself as one of the bravest person and country for approaching Mnangagwa for the dialogue.
“When I left the State House many accused me of being a sellout, but I said no I didn’t. But the problem is that you are scared of Mnangagwa, you only resort to insulting him on twitter, Facebook and Whats App where he can’t see you. But myself, I went to see him face to face. I am never afraid, so I should be praised for that,” boasted Mwonzora.
Commenting the break -away of her Deputy Thokozani Khupe who formed her own splinter party Mwonzora said he had tried everything to unite the leadership after the party’s extra ordinary congress.
“When I won the elections, I tried to unity the party by embracing all my contestants. I said Dr Khupe you should remain as vice president. I appointed Ellias Mudzuri as the second vice president and said to baba Morgan Komichi you should continue with your chairmanship,” he said.
“I was surprised on January 21 when a press conference was held saying they have split the party because the president has said he has joined the alliance. We then sat as national council and we said as MDC, our constitution does not have a split. And also there is no one who can become a president without going through congress, so if someone calls herself a president, they have left the party,” he added.
“It’s never something that we wanted, we wanted a united party, but as the president what could I have done. So, I am sorry that this had to happen. But what consoled me is that Bulawayo province wrote a letter saying they were not in agreement with what had happened, they said they didn’t want a split, as did all other provinces.”

Newsday

By A Correspondent- Former Zanu PF youth league national political commissar and leader of the Front for Economic Emancipation in Zimbabwe (FEEZ) leader Godfrey Tsenengamu on Sunday addressed the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) rally at Zimbabwe Grounds, Highfields, Harare.
Tsenengamu at the rally said that his party would work with like-minded opposition political parties in Zimbabwe to attain democratic change.
The former Zanu PF youth league national political commissar castigated President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government for alleged corruption.
Tsenengamu said Zanu PF leaders were stealing public resources as if the world was coming to an end.

Faced with a looming defeat at the upcoming polls, Douglas Mwonzora has announced he is calling for a government of national unity.
The MDC-T leader has revealed that talks between ZANU PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa and his party to form a government of national unity (GNU) were at an advanced stage.

Watch: Thousands Attend President Chamisa Rally At Zimbabwe Grounds
Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa yesterday declared war on the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) until it addresses allegations of manipulating the voters roll and alleged mismanagement of elections.
Chamisa yesterday addressed thousands of his party supporters at Zimbabwe Grounds in Highfield, Harare, who defied police restrictions and marched to the venue after the law enforcement agents barred them from using buses.
-Newsday

Tinashe Sambiri|ZIMSEC is battling to pay teachers currently marking both Ordinary Level and Advanced Level examinations, it has emerged.
There is furore following failure by troubled ZIMSEC to pay markers stipulated allowances.
The markers accuse ZIMSEC of hoodwinking them.
“Own goals don’t come this easy. ZIMSEC has just paid resident markers RTGS9k and non-resident markers RTGS19k, as living allowances.
When failure hits you, it doesn’t announce. This is total failure on the leadership at ZIMSEC. Markers have walked out in most venues,” Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe(PTUZ) observed.
PTUZ also denounced intimidation and harassment of educators by the Zanu PF regime.
“No sane parent can blame teachers. The demands by teachers are NOT illegal. The current problem has a name; it is called the Gvt of Zimbabwe, represented by @ZimTreasury.”
Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe has also condemned the disruption of its meeting by unruly Zanu PF members.
” Zanu pf thugs disrupted a lawful meeting that was being conducted by
@ARTUZ_teachers
no amount of intimidation will destroy teachers resolve we remain bold and determined no “cops and robbers” tactics will stop the battle for $540.”
By Dr Masimba Mavaza | Recent election campaign events are raising questions about the role of police at political rallies. Many people wonder whether police are there to keep the peace or to do the bidding of campaigns.
There has been outrage over the video which shows police officers in Harare assaulting some people believed to be CCC members. The reports the incident heightens questions about the role of law enforcement officers at political rallies.
Zimbabwe Republic police has been inserted into the 2021 By Elections in ways arguably unseen since the 1980. A month before March 26 elections, a group of CCC voters marching to a location in Highfields grounds Some claimed that the police assaulted them for putting on yellow T-shirts.The police deemed the march “unsafe and unlawful,” while civil rights organizations referred to police intervention as voter intimidation. and oppression.
Commentators noted that there should be “a way to close the book on voter suppression and police violence if we are to start a new chapter in our story.
The question flying around is do we have a Police Ford that recognizes the importance of protecting everyone’s right to vote.”
The members of the CCC are quick to forget. The way we see it, protesters and hecklers have it pretty easy. They blocked the roads made noise and disturbed peace. In the colonial old days, this doesn’t happen because they used to treat them very, very rough. And when they protested once, you know, they would not do it again so easily.
The opposition did not only do this in Highfields just last night, but the truth is, this has almost become a routine part of their campaign appearances. Wherever the CCC goes there is chaos and noise and the CCC leadership will boast of having the West on their side should they be arrested.
But the CCC actually manages to disrupt normal life and peace then yes, there’s enough of a reason to ask them to stop and, if they don’t stop and it continues to be disruptive, to ask them to leave.
But sometimes things get a little grayer then these protestors are ejected by uniformed police, either on-duty cops or off-duty cops working security. If the protesters get the impression that their rally is being regulated by the state, courts might take a closer look. It comes down to whether the police are penalizing someone because of what he’s saying and not just because he’s being disruptive. As a people we must see that there’s more at stake here than just what the law requires.
The constitution allows people to gather peacefully. The question is not what happened to rally only. The police look at the behaviour of the people during the build up to the rally. The rally itself is not the problem. People must realise that they have a freedom to express themselves and have a freedom of gathering as they wish. But the most important thing is that your freedom ends exactly where someone’s rights begins. If the rights of the yellow donning demonstrators overlaps and infringe the rights of the peace loving road users and Zimbabweans in general the police have the right to disperse them and maintain peace snd law and order.
If the people are playing anywhere close to that line, you should be worried that people would think this is someone who doesn’t respect the law. If you cross the line there will be some consequences. The police are not tools they are professionals. The Police’s only concern is security and that it would not be arresting people in jail for protesting. The police constitute both a critical infrastructure and symbol of political power.
But they take no sides. They are blind to colour and slogans. Around the world, police and politics are intertwined in deeper ways than may seem evident. The Politics of the Police, engages with the seemingly inevitable tendency of the police to get embroiled in controversies and political contestations. Police and politics are “terrible twins” policing is highly sensitive to the political climate, and the process for supervising police chiefs is not necessarily apolitical.
Whenever Chamisa holds a rally the scene will always be violent and chaotic:
The situation of the rallies is always horrible the images reinforced a common and a valid complaint that police can be callous toward the demonstrators when seeking to preserve order.
So the important question
is How do police show enough force sufficient to maintain calm without becoming a provocation and without inclining to one side of the politicians.
In most cases people blame the police for deploying armed riot squad officers and tear gas and using them aggressively against protesters. But nobody takes time to see whether the police acted reasonably.
We know that officers must walk a fine line: to appear in control without appearing threatening.
That’s a very difficult judgment area, when dealing with the thugs in yellow. Some officers might be in uniform, while others are in plain clothes and some in yellow to blend in. Violent protesters may have to be kept separated or persuaded in a police way to go back home.
As the custom of the opposition some demonstrators come with the full intention of getting arrested, and some are causing problems to achieve their goal. The goal of depicting the government as intolerant.
The Police officers are in a tough place,If they have too many, they get yelled at. If they don’t have enough, they get yelled at.
The violence surrounding protesters that has been seen at several rallies in recent days has raised concerns about potential dangers at campaign events and in the electoral process in general.
So the police have no choice but stand up to the occasion. Those who come willing to expose that the police are violent will not be spared. The police are not going to allow lawlessness simply because one person is in yellow.
If you break the law the police will remind you and will surely deal with you according to the law. So this idea of blaming the police for doing their work is immoral idiotic and cheap politics.
It is true that the the opposition cause problem so that they get a reaction. The police even though they are aware that the people are out to have a confrontation they do not fold their hands they act for the sake of peace.
Real Madrid dug deep in a 3-0 home win against lowly Alaves, scoring all three in the last 27 minutes of the game after the visitors gave them a few scares early on and threatened to pull off an upset at the Bernabeu stadium.
Madrid entered Saturday’s match on frayed nerves following their loss at Paris Saint-Germain in Champions League play earlier in the week, and a listless first half on Saturday led to boos and jeers among the Real Madrid fans.
Marco Asensio roused the Bernabeu in the 63rd minute with a brilliant curled shot into the top right corner from outside the box.
Vinicius Junior extended the lead a few moments later, and Karim Benzema added one more with a last-minute penalty kick.
The LaLiga leaders moved up to 57 points from 25 games, seven ahead of Sevilla and 14 clear of Real Betis — both of whom have a game in hand over Real.
Champions Atletico Madrid are fourth with 42 points, three more than Barcelona.- espn

Cancer is one of the world’s leading causes of death, and its burden is growing. In 2021, the world crossed a sobering new threshold – an estimated 20 million people were diagnosed with cancer, and 10 million died.
These numbers will continue to rise in the decades ahead. And yet all cancers can be treated, and many can be prevented or cured.
Care for cancer, however, like so many other diseases, reflects the inequalities and inequities of our world. The clearest distinction is between high- and low-income countries, with comprehensive treatment reportedly available in more than 90% of high-income countries but less than 15% of low-income countries.
Similarly, the survival of children diagnosed with cancer is more than 80% in high-income countries, and less than 30% in low- and middle-income countries. And breast cancer survival five years after diagnosis now exceeds 80% in most high-income countries, compared with 66% in India and just 40% in South Africa.
Furthermore, a recent WHO survey found that cancer services are covered by a country’s largest, government health financing scheme in an estimated 37% of low- and middle-income countries, compared to at least 78% of high-income countries.
This means that a cancer diagnosis has the potential to push families into poverty, particularly in lower-income countries, an effect that has been exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Closing the care gap
For all of these reasons, the theme for this year’s World Cancer Day is “closing the care gap”.
And fortunately, much is being done to bring quality cancer care to countries for which, up until now, it has been out of reach.
WHO’s efforts are focused on breast cancer, now the most common cancer; cervical cancer, that can be eliminated; and childhood cancer. The focus for each of these initiatives is low- and middle-income countries, where the biggest public health gains are to be made.
These integrated global cancer initiatives are being implemented by more than 200 partners around the world, including many development banks who have significantly increased their investments in cancer research, prevention and care.
National cancer centres: key to a comprehensive approach
Experience has shown the importance of national cancer centres in ensuring a comprehensive approach to cancer treatment. Bringing services for prevention, diagnosis, multidisciplinary treatment and supportive care together in one place makes it easier for patients to navigate services and leads to a greater concentration of expertise, and subsequently better health outcomes. Furthermore, cancer centres serve as training and research hubs, and in this way, help build country capacity and expertise.
Setting Up a Cancer Centre: a WHO-IAEA Framework, being released by the World Health Organization and the International Atomic Energy Agency for World Cancer Day, proposes a framework for both establishing a cancer centre and strengthening the provision of services in existing centres. Intended for policy-makers, programme managers and health professionals, it provides details of the infrastructure, human resources and equipment required for essential services, taking into consideration local context and resources available.
Facilitating decisions on screening
Screening is another important element of comprehensive cancer prevention and control but decisions on what to include in a cancer programme require consideration of a number of complex factors. To support decision-making on such issues in countries, WHO has just released A short guide to cancer screening. Increase effectiveness, maximize benefits and minimize harm.
Reinvigorated efforts to increase access to radiotherapy
Radiotherapy is among the most cost-effective, efficient and widely-used cancer treatments, and may be considered as a treatment option for an estimated half of cancer patients. Despite being a critical component of cancer care, however, worldwide access to radiotherapy is still inadequate, particularly in lower-income countries.
To reinvigorate efforts to address this problem, WHO is joining forces with the IAEA, as it launches Rays of Hope. This new project will prioritize a limited number of high-impact, cost-effective and sustainable interventions in line with national needs and commitment, starting in Africa.
Scale-up critical given the impact of the pandemic
Increased efforts to scale up high quality cancer programmes at international, national and community levels are all the more important given disruption to cancer programmes during the COVID-19 pandemic. In a survey published in October 2021, more than half of countries reporting indicated that cancer screening and treatment had been partially or completely disrupted during the pandemic.
By collaboration, commitment and solidarity, however, hope can be provided to the many millions of people for whom cancer treatment has in the past been little more than a dream.

The much-anticipated Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match between FC Platinum and Dynamos ended goalless at Mandava Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
This was the first meeting between the two clubs since the Chibuku Super Cup semi-finals at Baobab Stadium which FC Platinum won 1-0 en route to winning the title.
In the early stages of the match, Petros Mhari denied Evans Katema after he connected Emmanuel Paga’s cross.
FC Platinum followed up with a quick counter-attack, but Brian Banda failed to finish the move.
DeMbare dominated possession for long spells afterwards and created a couple of big chances with captain Patson Jaure failing to beat Mhari in a 1-v-1 in the 23rd minute.
Ralph Kawondera also had a shot at goal but was denied by Mhari. The game went to the break with both times tied at 0-0.
The second half followed a similar pattern to the first but things became heated up towards the hour mark.
Match officials were forced to stop the match for about five minutes after FC Platinum fans clashed with their Dynamos counterparts.
Both sides seemed to retreat and continued concentrating the play in the midfield with just flashes of attacks on either end.
The biggest chance of the match was to fall to FC Platinum’s Thando Ngwenya in the 75th minute but he blasted his effort over from a few yards out.
The scoreline remained unchanged, and the game finished goalless.-

A 39-year-old woman from Bulawayo’s Pumula South suburb has launched a solo campaign to encourage eligible residents to register to vote ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Cora Ndebele launched a campaign titled “Be registered voter campaign, no to harbouring non-registered voters in our homes” to target women to ensure they influence their family members to register.
Ndebele told CITE that her campaign was motivated by the low numbers of registered people in Bulawayo and the Matabeleland regions that may result in the provinces losing constituencies in the delimitation exercise set for this year. She said:
We, women, are the ones who bear the burden of suffering of all kinds yet as women we also make things happen at our homes.
We turn a house into a home in the same vein, let’s encourage all our family members to be responsible and register and appear on the voters roll.
Ndebele warned that if the situation doesn’t improve, women could withhold certain privileges from their partners. She added:
Your ‘hubby’ that we love so much, should register. If not ingubo kazitholi (not to sexual intercourse) until he is registered. He must show you his registration slip to show that he is registered.
Even our boyfriends, bosisi should register. You can’t be in love with an irresponsible citizen. No hugs, kisses and everything until he is registered.
Our tenants should be registered, if not give them notice or they show you their registration slip to prove he or she is a responsible citizen.
Zimbabwe has a total of 210 constituencies of which only 38 of them are in the three Matabeleland provinces – Bulawayo (12), Matabeleland South (13) and Matabeleland North (13).
The remainder is spread across the seven other provinces outside Matabeleland, namely the three Mashonaland provinces (East, West and Central), Manicaland, Midlands, Masvingo and Harare.- CITE

ZANU PF recently sent a delegation to Lusaka, Zambia, led by Secretary for Administration Obert Mpofu in an attempt to improve diplomatic relations with the neighbouring country’s ruling United Party for National Development (UPND).
ZANU PF is worried Hichilema will become part of a network in the region that may support change in the region and fund the opposition, including the CCC.
Hichilema campaigned on the ticket of democracy, good governance, anti-corruption and reform – values and issues the ZANU PF-led government detests.

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | It is stranger than fiction. Sometimes things happen and one wonders how did you get or chose that name. Many people have characters similar to their names. I have a friend called never true to his name he will never give you a penny.
He will never say yes. We chose things which give us a curse. The curse of the Yellow brigade. Yellow is a primary color. It sits between orange and green on the color wheel. In other words yellow is not faithful to anyone but itself. It is quick to apportion blame so yellow is not a good colour to-be your theme. Being associated with the sun, it should stand for optimism, joy, enlightenment, but surprisingly yellow stands for duplicity, cowardice, betrayal.
Yellow Can Be Aggressive
While it can be an energetic color, this intensity can also have a downside. Sometimes yellow can come off as very aggressive and even confrontational. In great quantities, people may be left feeling irritated or even angry when surrounded by yellow.
The colour of jealousy and deception: different beliefs and superstitions rotate around yellow, but there are also those who have studied effects on the body and mind and spontaneous associations of this colour with a decidedly more scientific approach, obtaining rather interesting results.
Despite its associations with optimism and happiness, yellow carries a number of negative connotations. It stands for cowardice, deceitfulness, impulsiveness, egoism. High levels of exposure to yellow can also lead to aggression and irritability. Yellow personality types can often be too judgmental, spiteful, and have a lack of empathy. It is even found that babies cry more in yellow painted rooms, as well as that people tend to get angry when around this color for too long. Yellow personality types have been associated with choleric temperament in a way that they are often described as violent, vengeful, and short tempered. yellow carries a surprising number of negative connotations. Yellow is a symbol of cowardice, of sickness, and of mental illness. It’s the color of sensationalism and even of excess. Vibrant yellow is typically used with caution by designers, though paler yellows can certainly have a murderous effect. Too much bright yellow can easily overwhelm a project.
People surrounded by yellow are irrational and suffer from extreme mental illness.
The history of color yellow
Yellow was one of the first colors used in art due to the wide availability of yellow ochre pigment. Ancient Egyptians painted their gods in yellow so that it would resemble gold. But to the general populace of the Egyptians yellow represented demons the demon of the greedy. From the 14th century onward, yellow has become the color of envy, jealousy, treason, the color that cannot be trusted. Once the color of the sun and gold, yellow became one of the least popular shades. Its dubious reputation has endured until today; compared to other colors, yellow often stands as a symbol of negative personality traits. Yellow is a colour of those who cheat and chronic liar. In tradition and common sense, it is the colour of happiness and hope, of positivity, energy and optimism. Yet for some it also has negative meanings: it is often linked to jealousy, cowardice, deception. Where do these connections come from? Is there any foundation or are they just cultural constructions?
For Leatrice Eisman, colour specialist and executive director of Pantone Colour Institute, much of this is due to the natural association between yellow and the sun. Over the last thirty years, Eisman has conducted several studies on the association between colours and words, involving thousands of people. With respect to yellow, there seems that the “innate” positivity of it is not everything: even if the studies on these themes are not yet very numerous, some researchers have found a really extraordinary power in this colour the colour used by the devil or by those who worship the devil or idols. Yellow contaminates the mind it intoxicates and turns the majority of people wild.
As with everything else, you should be careful not to exaggerate: excessive exposure to yellow can lead to a loss of concentration, making it very difficult to complete a job. Too much yellow slows down your thinking capacity. Every year, with the arrival of autumn and then winter, several people show symptoms of what has been identified as a mood disorder:
Easy irritability, laziness, melancholy, difficulty in interpersonal relationships, increased appetite, decreased sexual desire, insomnia or hypersomnia: for those who suffer from this disorder, the bad season is synonymous with a change of their state of health and well-being. The seasonal frequency of the disorder is linked to the yellow colour.
Many patients say they have benefited from the introduction of a fluorescent light box in their homes designed to create a more balanced light space, which gives the impression of being outdoors on a pleasant sunny day. Others, on the other hand, wear glasses with yellow removing effects that aim to block the yellow light rays typical of these seasons, which affect the production of melatonin and consequently the tendency to sleep a lot, often present in those who suffer from yellow SAD.
The magic of yellow
Long before science attributed yellow to these characteristic features and this power of influence, esotericism and popular beliefs gave the colour of the sun a privileged place. Those who are interested in precious stones and believe that each of them corresponds to a specific power, for example, think that yellow stones are useful to clarify important decisions, promote concentration, increase energy and even help to alleviate burnout symptoms, anxiety, nervousness and fatigue.
Even in the different local cultures yellow has taken on multiple meanings and values: in Japan, for example, it is the colour of courage, in many African countries it is linked to wealth and success, in India it is the colour of merchants. But it is the case of Thailand that is the most curious and particular: in the country of Southeast Asia yellow is considered a colour of good luck, especially on the first day of the week. It is a very popular colour especially because it is associated with King Bhumibol Adulyadej, ruler of the country from 1946 to 2016 and was born on Monday. During his reign, it was customary for many Thai people to wear something yellow on the first day of each week, to pay homage to the sovereign. And seen from a Western perspective, it seems that yellow has really managed to create magic: to make someone, or rather more than someone, appreciate “Mondays”.
The colour experts however have found that Yellow is the colour of immaturity and total confusion. Yellow makes one believe that he is in control even though all around him shows something different.
Yellow gives a false courage and it is a danger to society.

Ghana’s four Afcon trophies have reportedly gone missing at the country’s FA headquarters.
According to Saddick Adams of Accra-based Angel FM, the replica trophies, which the Black Stars received after winning the 1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982 editions, cannot be traced.
“You know that CAF gives you a replica when you win the trophy but then, you get the golden one when you win it for keeps [three times],” Adams said on his programme on Wednesday.
“Before the 2019 AFCON, I asked questions about the four trophies that we have won, and I was told that we lost the trophies during the Coup when the National Sports Council Office was ransacked.”
Meanwhile, the Black Stars have not won the Afcon since 1982 when they beat hosts Libya on penalties.
They have since lost three finals, two against Ivory Coast and one against seven-time champions Egypt.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

A 20 year old Mutare man drowned in a swimming pool on Saturday, over a week ago, during a birthday party held at a rented Weirmouth property.
Ralf Fungai Getsi Murera’s relatives suspect foul play in his death as the people who were with him just before his death are not speaking about what really transpired.
The party was a joint birthday bash for the Munongwa twin brothers that was held at Plot Number 40, Weirmouth.
Murera was among the invited guests at the poolside party where DJs 37 OFF, Zintronix and Stavoe were entertaining the guests.
Ezra Kurewa (17), who saw Murera diving into the swimming pool said he expected that he would resurface safely.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said police have so far gathered that Murera was drunk when he jumped into the pool and drowned. He said:
Takudzwa Munongwa (20) and his twin brother, Tinotenda, held a birthday pool party last Saturday.
They invited several guests, including the now deceased. At the party, Murera and other guests were drinking beer and swimming in the shallow part of the swimming pool.
At around midday, Murera jumped to the deeper part of the swimming pool and drowned. He was retrieved by Metro Hondo (21) who was among the guests.
First aid was rendered on Murera. Wellington Maradza (21) volunteered to ferry Murera to Dangamvura Polyclinic using his motor vehicle.
Upon arrival at the clinic, Murera was transferred to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital where he received treatment and later died around 6 pm.
The owner of the house, 85-year-old Tracy Makoni told police detectives that the twins asked her to use her home for the party and she consented.
However, Murera’s brother, Reuben, has refused to rule out foul play in the death. He said:
It is painful my brother. We are at a loss for words as a family. He was a fine young man who was peaceful and loving. There are issues that are not clear.
We are not pointing fingers at anyone, but we are not sure why people who were said to have picked him and took him to the hospital are not opening up on what exactly happened just before he breathed his last.
It is suspicious as people who saw him dying are not forthcoming to shed more light on what really transpired.
I learnt that he was rushed to the hospital by three people. At least if these people open up, we will understand what really happened.
It is depressing that none of the people who were present at the pool party is willing to shed more light on what happened.
We are hearing that he was naked when he was taken to the hospital. All we have now is just hearsay.
We suspect foul play. The post mortem is saying the alcohol he consumed may have contributed to his death.
Nothing is being associated with drowning. On Saturday evening, hours after his death, blood was oozing from his mouth. Could that be drowning?- manicapost

By A Correspondent- A 19 year old Nyanga man recently appeared before Acting Chief Saunyama’s court for dating a married woman, Ruth Manhimanzi, who is aged 21.
The teenager, Peter Mutonhora, of Dumba Village was fined a cow by the chief’s court.
He will, however, perform three months of unpaid work at Mount Melleray Mission Hospital after pleading with the chief for a lesser sentence.
Mutonhora told the traditional court that Manhimanzi had tricked him into believing that she was an unmarried virgin. He said:
I am still young and do not have any cattle. I did not know that she is married. In fact, l thought she was a virgin.
Mutonhora further claimed that he would chat with Mandimanzi from 7 pm to around midnight as he believed that she was single. He said:
She was always available when I wanted to talk to her over the phone. We would talk late at night.
It is rare to find a married woman entertaining other men during those hours.
Because of that, I believed that she was unattached and continued my relationship with her.
Where was this alleged husband when I was talking to her at midnight?
Asked whether he had not noticed that Ruth was heavily pregnant, Mutonhora said he wasn’t aware that she was pregnant. He said:
She looks like a ‘Sweet 16’ to me up to this day.
I was shocked when her husband told me that she is expecting their second child. I wanted to marry her.
However, Manhimanzi told the court that she revealed her marital status to the teenager but he would have none of it. She said:
He wouldn’t let me go and insisted that we would cross the bridge when we get caught.
We have now been caught, so this is the bridge we are crossing.
Manhimanzi’s husband only identified as Raphael (28), said initially he had a dream that revealed his wife’s shenanigans. He told the court:
I told her about my dream and she dismissed it as hogwash. I told her that if indeed it was true, I would catch her in no time.
He said he realised that his wife was always chatting with someone on her phone late into the night. Said, Raphael:
I took her phone and discovered her affair with Mutonhora. I started texting Mutonhora using her phone and he would respond.
I saw a message where they were planning to meet in the bushes. I followed them and caught them in each other’s arms.
Raphael said that during Mutonhora and his wife’s affair, the two had not indulged in sexual intercourse, hence his decision to forgive his wife.
By A Correspondent- MDC-T president Douglas Mwonzora continues to attract trifling figures after an estimated 300 people turned up for his Bulawayo rally Saturday.
The rally was held at Phelendaba Hall in Bulawayo.
It was rally was the first one in the city since his ascendency to the MDC-T leadership in December 2020.
Mwonzora was in the second largest city to drum up support for his candidates ahead of the March 26 by-elections.
Addressing his supporters, the former MDC-T Secretary General reiterated his desire to dialogue with Zanu-PF and President Emmerson Mnangagwa in a move which he said is the only solution to suffering Zimbabweans.
“Very soon we will be starting the issue of dialogue. We are going for dialogue, not to become ministers, but to fix the country’s problems. Our discussion points are that in Zimbabwe there should be everlasting peace,” Mwonzora said.
The blood that was shed of our people is enough and we say enough is enough.
By A Correspondent- Former MDC legislator Blessing Chebundo has launched a scathing attack on the Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC), saying the opposition political party was a loud-sounding nothing.
Having been part of the opposition, Chebundo says he believes the Mr Nelson Chamisa-led party has nothing to offer to the electorate. Chebundo, who crossed floor to join Zanu-PF last year, said the opposition party had no identity.
“The CCC yellow party has no basis. It is a venture with nothing to offer to the people and no rational person can follow it.
“The yellow party has no constitution and structures and everything is only about Chamisa which reduces it to a one-man project.”
The former Member of Parliament pledged full support to Kwekwe Central Zanu-PF candidate, John Purazi in the 26 March by-elections, adding that Zanu-PF will record a resounding victory in next year’s general elections.
The Kwekwe central constituency seat fell vacant after the death of MP Masango Matambanadzo who was a member of the National Patriotic Front.
“I pledge my full support to the Zanu-PF candidate in the coming by-election in Kwekwe because it’s the only stable party with clear ideology, values and structures. The electorate is not docile.
“People follow ideologies, clear vision and this is what makes me so confident that Zanu-PF is going to win,” he declared.
Chebundo applauded the President Mnangagwa-led government for furthering development in the country and having a people centered approach. “Everyone can see that there is a wave of development across the country.
“The country is taking the right trajectory where roads are being modernised and Zanu-PF has a lot to tell in the positive,” he said.-statemedia
By A Correspondent- Several boarding schools across the country are cashing in on the sale of uniforms with some schools charging between US$400 and US$600 for a set.
Parents, especially of Form 1 students who spoke to The Standard accused schools of swindling them of their money by demanding mandatory purchase of “overpriced” uniforms at their institutions.
They said schools like Goromonzi High, Sandringham and Murewa Mission were demanding them to pay an arm and a leg for the uniforms.
“I sent my child for Form 1 at Goromonzi High School and the school demanded that we pay around US$600 for the uniforms only,” said one parent on conditions of anonymity.
“This money is separate from the tuition fees and other levies that we paid for. It’s for the uniforms only.”
Goromonzi High School headmaster Norman Gombera could not be reached for comment yesterday despite having called him on his mobile phone and sending messages on WhatsApp.
This publication established that Murewa High School was charging US$527 for uniforms while at Sandringham High School parents are forking out between US$400 and US$600.
However, teachers and headmasters’ organisations had different opinions with regards to the prices of uniforms in schools.
Zimbabwe National Union of School Heads secretary general Munyaradzi Majoni said the procurement and pricing of school uniforms was solely spearheaded by the School Development Committees (SDCs).
“As far as we are concerned as school heads we do not have control over the issue of uniforms,” Majoni said.
“As a matter of policy, we do not encourage any of our members to be involved in the procurement of uniforms.
“Heads of schools are not involved .The process is spearheaded by the SDCs.”
National Association of Secondary Heads president Arthur Maposa defended the pricing model of school uniforms as necessary to raise money needed for the running of the learning institutions.
“Schools have been hit so much by Covid-19 and schools like Goromonzi High were not spared,” Maphosa said.
“There was so much damage in schools that we are trying to sort out such as desks that promote physical distancing, replacement of torn mattresses and other things, which cannot be mentioned separately and, therefore, fit under uniforms.”
Maphosa said the prices were justified by the set of uniforms that the student gets that include uniforms for the summer and winter seasons as well as blazers, track suits and even sport attires.
“You can compare the price with some uniform retailers and other uniform manufacturing companies and you will see that schools are even cheaper as they have been trying to industrialise,” he said.
Petra Schools Trust chairman and former Education minister David Coltart said it was surprising that uniforms cost so much.
“Sadly, this can only be addressed through achieving the correct economies of scale and through government action in ensuring that the input costs for school uniforms are reduced, which can be done through tariff structures,” Coltart said.
“However, the overriding problem is that the economy is in crisis and most people have limited disposable income, which is a direct result of Zanu-PF’s ruinous economic policies and endemic corruption.
“Until that is tackled most people will continue to battle even to provide school uniforms for their children.”
Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Obert Masaraure said the burden to fund basic education should ordinarily fall on the shoulders of the State.
“Parents are being forced to carry the State’s burden and the ministry’s position is that schools should not fleece parents through selling of uniforms,” Masaraure said.
“SDCs should stamp their authority and ensure that they defend the interests of the parents.
“Unfortunately, SDCs are usually captured and corrupted, so parents should make sure that they elect SDCs that are credible and independent.”
Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Takavafira Zhou added: “This is true and is unfortunate and ill conceived, more so when schools have a monopoly over selling of such uniforms.
“Uniforms should be affordable and parents should be given an opportunity to source uniforms from any provider,” he said.
Educators Union of Zimbabwe president Tafadzwa Munodawafa said the prevailing situation was being caused by the gross incapacitation of teachers.
“They are trying to cash in in any way that they can and the only person they have much access to is the parent,” Munodawafa said.
“It is indeed unfair. All parents out there are struggling as well as teachers.”
Director of communications and advocacy in the Primary and Secondary Education ministry Taungana Ndoro said it was not mandatory for parents to buy uniforms from schools.
“Parents are free to choose where to buy uniforms as long as the colour codes are the same,” Ndoro said.-standard
By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating a suspected bomb explosion that injured two minors in Tsholotsho on Friday.
Police said the two minors, aged 3 and 12, were playing in the bush at Magotsha line, Chief Ngqoya, Tsholotsho, when they picked up what they thought to be just metal and started playing with it before it exploded. ZRP said:
One of the victims sustained a laceration on the nose, left knee, thigh and groin area while the other sustained injuries on the stomach, nose, right hand, chin and thigh.
Investigations are underway to determine the nature and type of the explosive device.
In November last year, a Beitbridge man and his son died in a horrific explosion after the father tried to open a motor bomb he had picked up in the bush.
Realise Mpofu (26) of Mandate Village under Chief Matibe’s area and his son (7) were killed when the father used pliers and a hammer to open the bomb whose origins is not known.
An internal police document at the time indicated that Mpofu got his legs and palms blown off in the explosion.
By- MDC-T president Douglas Mwonzora said Zimbabweans should praise him for meeting President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House.
Mwonzora also claimed that other opposition leaders mock Mnangagwa on social media platforms were afraid of meeting him face to face.
Mwonzora has met Mnangagwa twice at State House since he was controversially elected leader of the MDC-T in December 2020.
He made the remarks on Saturday while addressing MDC-T supporters at Pelendaba Hall in Bulawayo.
Said Mwonzora:
When I left the State House many accused me of being a sell-out, but I said no I didn’t.
But the problem is that you are scared of Mnangagwa, you only resort to insulting him on Twitter, Facebook and WhatsApp where he can’t see you.
But for myself, I went to see him face to face. I am never afraid, so I should be praised for that.
Mwonzora told his supporters that dialogue with Zanu PF was the only route towards solving the country’s chronic socio-economic crisis.
By- Sihlesenkosi Dube nee Ndlovu (65) still fondly remembers how eager she was to walk more than two kilometres from her home to Mvundlana Primary School, Tsholotsho in the 1970s, just to receive a letter from her prospective boyfriend.
Back then, letters were the quickest form of communication and the only way she could keep in touch with a man who had proposed love to her.
She had made a covenant with her heart to give Mehluli Dube a hard time before saying yes to his proposal, at least that made sense to her generation.
The long walks to the school lasted five months and in all his letters, Dube maintained the fact that he loved and wanted to marry her.
She eventually gave in and this year she celebrates 46 years of blissful marriage with her sweetheart whom she spotted in April 1975 during a church service at a Seventh Day Adventist church in Tsholotsho.
The love struck ‘girl’ said she still does not regret saying yes to her husband who has maintained his love, romance and commitment for the past years.
Dube who was working at Datlabs then could not frequent Tsholotsho to see the ‘petite girl’ whom he knew was going to be his wife.
Sharing her love story with Chronicle this week, Gogo Dube said hers was love at first sight and she does not regret meeting the man of her dreams.
“I met him after church sometime in April and he confessed that he had been admiring me from afar and was interested in a relationship.
I liked him there and then but I could not show my interest immediately, he could have thought I was an easy target,” she said laughing at the thought.
“He used to write me letters begging and asking that I give him a chance. After five months I decided to give in and 45 years later, I am still happy to be his woman,” she says with eyes full of love.
Gogo Dube said her husband was a romantic charmer boy from day one, one who is not shy praising her at gatherings and gets her presents even up to today.
“I have been a fan of Choice Assorted biscuits and toffee sweets from day one and after such a long time, Khulu buys them and still hides some little surprises for me under the pillow, just like he did during our first day in marriage.
It’s like I fall for him every single day and I can confirm that true love exists because this man has never made me doubt his commitment from the day we got married on 29 June 1976,” she said.
She also said Khulu Dube still gets her presents for birthdays, Mother’s Day and anytime gifts to keep their love burning.
“Our sex life has been amazing too and I sometimes wonder what I did right because Khulu has never cheated on me, not that he is perfect but he commits to our love daily and that keeps me glowing, as old as I am,” she said.
For Gogo, the secret behind her happy marriage has been prayer, trust, patience and showering each other with love despite circumstances.
“I have been a housewife my whole life but Khulu never gave me reason to wish I was working because even financially he has been amazing.
I think the other reason is because I have respected him from day one and that keeps him motivated to shower me with all the love,” she said. She said young couples should never tire in mastering love languages and working on improving their unions daily.
“Marriage is hard work, you can never get to a point where you can relax, and now you put in efforts every day of your life,” she said.
To younger women, Gogo said they should always respect their man, put an effort to maintain clean homes and be patient with men for happier homes.
“We cannot have women who are always sick and will have excuses on why they are not having sex or doing other chores which are part of their duties as wives.
Khulu always likes it when I wash his clothes and iron myself that I still do even today because I know it makes him happy. I think couples should focus on basics and small gestures that can surprisingly keep their love lives burning,” she said.
For ‘sweet’ Khulu Dube who is turning 73 this June, his sweetheart was an answered prayer and he draws inspiration from the Biblical Adam who loved his wife more than himself.
“Love is the only gift from God that keeps us going and I aim to love my wife till the end of time because she deserves it. When I first spotted her back in 1975 while visiting my aunt, she was a petite shy girl and after consulting my elders I knew that she would be my wife,” said the slim built Khulu Dube who spots a unique hairstyle “umqhekezo”.
“It is possible to maintain happy homes as long as both parties play their roles in keeping each other happy. There is no perfect marriage but I believe two people can agree to make their marriage the best by how they treat each other,” he said.
Khulu Dube said the high number of divorces these days is fueled by the fact that people chose not to be content. He said marriage should be founded on real love and not material things like beauty and wealth as these may vanish.
“We should commit ourselves to loving one woman and if you teach yourself to be content you will be able to love only one woman. I also encourage men to also learn to say sorry, it really helps to keep happy homes,” he said. Khulu said due to the undying love for his wife, he had already finished payng her bride price as she was worth everything.
“Yes, we fight and have disagreements but we talk about them and find a solution together because we are a team. I believe I should never ever give my wife a reason to regret why she said yes to me 45 years ago. It’s my daily aspiration,” he said as he cast a loving eye on her.
He encouraged couples to refrain from entertaining other people interfering in their marriages including parents, relatives and friends.
“We should respect our wives and protect them even from our own families to sustain marriages. They are not sex slaves, in fact sex should be enjoyed by both parties without restrictions or excessive demands.
We must spice things in the bedroom. God should reign in our hearts and he will inspire us to lead happy and abuse-free homes so that we stay longer in marriage,” he advised. The couple said while many wait for days like Valentine’s to buy gifts, to them love is expressed daily.
“Men should love their women, provide for them and ensure that they do everything to keep them happy. It is easy to love and commit to one woman if you are connected to the Source of Love –God Himself,” added Khulu Dube.
The Dube family was blessed with four children, three girls and a boy who have borne six grandchildren in total. They used to stay in Entumbane suburb before Khulu Dube retired at Datlabs in 2014 and they have moved to their homestead in Mtshazo Village, Gongwe Area, Gwanda, Matabeleland South.
Their happy, unflinching love story is well-known in their village. Chronicle
By A Correspondent- MDC-T President Daglous Mwonzora has spoken out on the collapse of his party.
Mwonzora at the weekend told his supporters in Bulawayo that he regretted the split of the opposition movement.
MDC-T recently spilt after the party’s deputy, Thokozani Khupe, announced that she was now leading another faction. That was after Mwonzora had fired her for insubordination.
Mwonzora said he did not want the split.
“It’s never something that we wanted; we wanted a united party, but as the president, what could I have done? So, I am sorry that this had to happen.
But what consoled me is that Bulawayo province wrote a letter saying they were not in agreement with what had happened.
They said they didn’t want a split, as did all other provinces,” said Mwonzora.
By- There are leaked audio recordings of Zanu PF officials plotting to work with ZRP to disrupt Nelson Chamisa’s CCC star rally to be held in Highfields today.
The audio has gone viral on various social media platforms.
ZRP has also set stringent conditions Chamisa’s Sunday rally.
The police have said that they warned that they would disperse the gathering if the conditions were not met.
By-Zanu PF has been shaken by the Nelson Chamisa-led Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), planned star rally.
Chamisa is today holding a star rally to launch the party’s by-elections campaign.
Zanu PF national spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa told the state media that they were not working in cahoots with the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to sabotage CCC rallies and programmes.
He said:
The issue of the size of the crowd is neither here nor there. A rally attendance is not a voting booth.
A rally in a particular place is definitely not an arbiter of total national power dispensation.
The deep chasm of mistrust and the questionable loyalty of the MDC-Chamisa Chete Chete personalised political outfit to the Zimbabwe State would be of concern.
Here it needs to be recalled that the state of free Zimbabwe is two decades older than the later arrivist MDC-CCC opposition.
This is an issue the late (Morgan) Tsvangirai (the late MDC president) was finally grappling with as he matured in national statecraft.

Arts guru Cont Mhlanga has blasted politicians for abusing artistes and the arts industry to advance their political careers.
Mhlanga was reacting to the recent trend whereby artistes have turned to politicians for revenue streams.Chillspot Records’ Levels and Fantan performed at President Emerson Mnangagwa Zanu PF star rally in Epworth.
Sandra Ndebele is leading the Bulawayo chapter of the Young Women for ED movement while Mai TT openly supports the Zanu PF leader.
Comedian and musician Kapfupi also openly confessed his admiration for Mnangagwa while urban grooves pioneer Sani Makhalima, Loraine Guyo, Seh Calaz among others have also been rooting for the leader of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change, Nelson Chamisa.
“It’s all about the confusion in the arts industry. The confusion was deliberately caused by politicians, after there was a rise in opposition,” Mhlanga said.
“Politicians are desperate for numbers so they moved into using arts which is a huge constituency; hence they used artists for mileage.“The arts industry is dead, we are only left with the political industry hence artists have ceased to be artists, and we now have activists masquerading as artistes.
“If one aligns himself or herself to a certain political party you are no longer an artist, but a political activist. You will be compromised to then give people artistry, which is free and fair.”
Mhlanga said the audience was not gullible to follow trends and politicians.“The audience is not that gullible and they can see what the artistes are doing and stop aligning with them,” he said.
“The people are not fools, look at the artists who have aligned themselves with politicians, most of them if not all have not performed for a paying public in years, which should show you that people are not gullible.”
Mhlanga added that the advent of new television channels and new media platforms will soon free arts from political capture.
“With the advent of new television channels and other forms of media there will be more demand for content and artistes will go to the new platforms and politicians will be left with no one,” he said.
“The television revolution will change content consumption and the artistes that are going to survive the revolution are the ones that are not part of political campaigns.”

The Government is still finalising legal instruments to operationalise a recent Cabinet decision for land borders to be opened to vaccinated ordinary travellers, it has been established.
Immigration officials yesterday said they have not been given the green light to allow ordinary travellers to pass through but were still handling essential travellers as before.
Regional Immigration officer-in-charge of Beitbridge Mr Joshua Chibundu told Sunday News yesterday that although they were yet to get the legal instruments in line with the Cabinet decision, they were fully prepared to handle the anticipated high volume of general travellers.
“We are ready to deal with any volume of traffic like we have done before and currently, we are waiting for the standard operating procedures to be complete before the new regulations may kick in.
At the moment it’s business as usual, the travellers are very cautious and we haven’t had any issues with people being turned away for failing to qualify under the essential travellers bracket. We are hopeful, that soon we will be having a clear position on what needs to be done, but generally everyone is ready to deliver in line with their mandates.”
So far, an average of 2 500 people are crossing the Beitbridge Border Post daily and these are being subjected to tight screening for Covid-19 by health officials. Beitbridge is the only land border that links Zimbabwe and South Africa and the rest of the countries north of the Zambezi River.
Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the border would handle at least 15 000 people daily and the figure would increase to 35 000 during peak periods.Matabeleland South Provincial Medical Director Dr Rudo Chikodzore, said last week that they will continue using tight screening and surveillance measures at the ports of entry in line with the set Covid-19 protocols.
“We have been very busy during the lockdown and we are ready to deal with huge volumes of traffic. Adjustments will be made depending on the context of the situation on the ground. In fact, it’s going to be business as usual for our teams which we beefed up during the lockdowns. These have been dealing with huge volumes of traffic mainly of returning immigrants averaging around 500 daily.”
Cabinet last Tuesday approved the opening of all land borders which have been closed for the general public since the pandemic struck, as a measure to contain the spread of Covid-19.
Prior to the latest decision, only commercial cargo,Zimbabweans with permits to study or work in other countries were allowed to depart via land borders. Already, stakeholders countrywide have lauded the Government’s latest decision.
Beitbridge Town Clerk Mr Loud Ramakgapola said, “The opening of the border will help spur the informally dependent economy of Beitbridge. Our town relies heavily on its growth through cross-border trade. The opening of the border is thus very welcome.”
Zimbabwe Chamber of Informal Economy Associations (ZCIEA) and president of Street Net International, Ms Lorraine Sibanda said the opening of land borders was a positive move for informal traders.
She said cross-border trade makes up a large part of the informal economy worldwide.
“For many women working in the informal economy, cross-border trading is a source of livelihood and income. The closure of land borders due to the Covid-19 pandemic took away the opportunity to work and subsequent loss of income for many informal traders and their dependents.”
Meanwhile, bus operators that ply the Bulawayo-Johannesburg route said they have not yet reduced their fares. Before Covid-19 induced restrictions, the bus operators were charging between R250 and R500 for a one way trip to Johannesburg.
However, when the strict travelling arrangements were introduced the bus operators raised their fares to between R1 000 and R2 000 even for returning citizens who had all the necessary documents.
Operators who spoke to Sunday News yesterday said depending on the volume of business, they will consider new fares once borders start allowing ordinary travellers to pass through.
Announcing the decision to open borders after last Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said the country took the decision after realising the declining numbers of Covid-19 cases and deaths.
“With a declining testing positivity rate that is indicating that the community transmission has gone down, all ports of entry be reopened but ensuring that all the recommended Covid-19 prevention measures are adhered to,” she said.
In addition, Cabinet resolved that all persons entering Zimbabwe must have undergone a valid Covid-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test not more than 48 hours from the time of their departure for Zimbabwe, and should be fully vaccinated.
