Addressing a media conference in Harare on Wednesday CCC piled pressure on the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to be neutral in the execution of expected constitutional obligations.

According to CCC, ZEC’s bias is worrisome.

Air Pollution A Major Public Health Emergency

Credit: World Health Organization

Vismita Gupta-Smith

Why does WHO consider air pollution a major public health emergency? If you live in areas with high levels of air pollution, does COVID-19 impact you differently? Hello and welcome to Science in 5, I’m Vismita Gupta-Smith. We are talking to Dr. Maria Neira today.

Welcome, Maria. Maria, let’s start with why does WHO consider air pollution a major public health emergency?

Dr Maria Neira

Hello, everyone. Well, when you have more than 7 million premature deaths every year, every single year associated with exposure to air pollution, I’m sure that everybody agrees that this is a major public health issue. Actually, nine out of every 10 people around the world, particularly those living in cities, are breathing air that is not consistent with what WHO considers the good standards according to our air quality guidelines for breathing and still be healthy. And, you know, for many years, we thought and most of the diseases linked to exposure to air pollution were considered only to be affecting our respiratory system. And this is still true. Very much. Exposure to air pollution is responsible for chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, lung cancer, pneumonia, name it. But in addition to that, we know now that these toxic particles will come to our lungs and from there to the bloodstream will reach our cardiovascular system and then be responsible for ischemic heart diseases, for neurological disorders, for stroke, for neurological problems as well in general and reproductive system issues. So, as you can imagine, all of those reasons tell us consider that air pollution is one of the biggest public health issues we are confronting today.

Vismita Gupta-Smith

Maria, if a person is living in a highly polluted environment where whether air pollution levels are very high. Does COVID-19 impact them differently?

Dr Maria Neira

Yes, we have now more and more scientific evidence. One reason is that exposure, long term exposure to air pollution will affect your immune system and therefore will make you more susceptible to any type of respiratory diseases. And obviously, COVID-19 is a respiratory disease. In addition to that, we know that exposure to air pollution will increase the risk for chronic diseases like cardiopulmonary, like metabolic diseases, diabetes. And we all know now that those diseases are the so-called co-morbidities that will increase the risk for more severity and even later outcome if you are a patient with COVID-19. So, yes.

Vismita Gupta-Smith

Maria, when we think about air pollution, it seems like the scale is so big and what can we do to reduce it? Share with us some examples of initiatives that governments and organizations took, which actually reduced air pollution.

Dr Maria Neira

Well, clearly the best way to reduce air pollution will be stop burning fossil fuels. I mean, that combustion of the fossil fuels is contributing not only to climate change, but to generate this high level of pollutants that then end up in our lungs. So changing that policy around which source of energy we are using will be one of the most effective. Legislation, go for enforcing the air quality guidelines of WHO. But if we go to concrete measures, of course at the city level, you have measures now going for change in the transport, the public transport system they have, promoting more sustainable ways of public transport, reducing the use of private cars, going for more efficient energy use of our buildings, making sure that they reduce the traffic congestion in certain areas. And we can see that all of those measures are immediate. They have immediate positive outcomes. Obviously, as an individual, the best you can do is to put pressure on your politicians, on your mayors. Make sure that there are systems to monitor the air quality that you are breathing every day in your city. And by doing so, ensuring that measures are taken at the political level. If the situation on air pollution is really bad, if we take measures, there is optimism. You can see that in European countries, for instance, or North America, the situation improved very much in the last 20 years. We are still far in other parts of the world and we still need to put in place measures on sustainable transport, a clean and modern use of energy sources and all our way of consuming, recycling. And therefore we will be able to tackle this huge problem of air pollution. Tackling the causes of climate change will bring enormous benefits as well on reducing the causes of air pollution and therefore contributing enormously to our health.

Vismita Gupta-Smith

Thank you, Maria, for explaining this link, this interconnectedness between our health and that of the planet. Thank you very much. That was Science in 5 today. Until next time then. Stay healthy, stay safe and stick with science…

Tinashe Sambiri|They say a hungry man is an angry man…

Irate Zimbabweans have vowed to dump Arnold Kamudyariwa( DJ Fantan) music over his presence at Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s rally in Epworth, Harare.

Hundreds of suffering citizens view DJ Fantan’s presence at the Zanu PF event event as an endorsement of dictatorship.

There is no doubt that Mr Mnangagwa’s “new dispensation” is losing aplomb and popularity with each passing day.

Commenting on Fantan’s presence at Mr Mnangagwa’s rally, Farai Oscar Mpinga said:
“You dig ur own grave DJ Fantan all these pple who are now against you are your true fans bt e way you disappointed them z unexplainable.”

‘Peeping’ Harare Businessman Dragged To Court

By Court Reporter| Harare businessman John Tayler has been dragged to court to answer to criminal nuisance charges.

The 72-year-old was allegedly caught peeping through a precast wall and taking pictures of a private residence belonging to Vanessa Evershed.

Tayler, who was on a horseback failed to explain his actions leading Evershed to file a report at Borrowdale police station.

Evershed, a single mother wrote in her sworn affidavit that Tayler’s actions were suspicious and disturbed her peace.

Tayler was not asked to plead when he appeared before a Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda on Tuesday.

Allegations are that on February 7, 2022 at around 9 am, Evershed noticed Tayler riding his horse up and down outside her residence in Borrowdale.

The State further alleges that, Tayler went on to peep through the precast wall and took pictures without Evershed’s consent.

Evershed called for help and one o her work colleague Yitbarek Tekie showed up before he confronted Tayler.

Evershed also alleges that Tayler intended to harm her after she recently testified against him at an ongoing arbitration involving Tayler and Tekie.

Tayler and Tekie are reportedly fighting over ownership of a local stockfeed company.

Tayler has filed a counter claim for alleged attempted murder and animal cruelty against Evershed and Tekie.

The matter has been deferred to April 25, 2022 for trial.

#OperationDudula Threatens To Shut Down Police Station

By A Correspondent- Extremist xenophobic group #OperationDudula which is led by vigilante Soweto Commander Nhlanhla Lux Dlamini has vowed that it will shut down all South Africa police stations in June 16 this year.

The planned program of action coincides with the commemoration of the June 16 Soweto massacre of 1976.

Posting on Twitter, Dlamini said, 2022 June 16 we physically close all police stations in SA  with chains & locks demanding the government to double the salaries of all law enforcement including SANDF – tired of BRIBABLE cops (sic).”

The outrage towards police officers comes a few days after the vigilante group clashed with police officers at Orange Grove in Johannesburg.

The groups claims to be fighting illegal immigrants who are allegedly committing crime, distributing drugs, and taking jobs and accommodations that should otherwise be given to South African nationals.

The program of action has received condemnation from the rival group #PutSouthAfricaFirst who are saying the extremist program will create unnecessary animosity between the citizens and the law enforcement agents.

EFFs Julius Malema has condemned the acts of the vigilante group as similar to those of international terrorist groups Al Shabab and Boko Haram.

On Saturday the group is set to besiege the notorious township of Hillbrow in a bid to reclaim it from foreigners.

Rights Lawyer “Corner”Registrar General

By A Correspondent- Human rights lawyers have pressed the Registrar General for details on how many people were issued with identity documents between November 2021 and this month.

The move comes as the main opposition and rights activist have accused the government of not issuing IDs to young people, they say in a bid to stop them registering as voters ahead of general elections next year.

Tinashe Chinopfukutwa and Paidamoyo Saurombe of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights first raised their concerns with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, which referred them to the Acting Registrar General Henry Machiri.

In a statement on Tuesday, the ZLHR said: “We have since written a letter to Machiri asking him to provide us with the number of people who have been issued with national IDs from November 2021 to date per province.”

The lawyers are also demanding details of the dates and places where the Registrar General intends to roll out a mobile ID issuance programme in March.

We are expecting to receive this information by Wednesday, failure of which we will institute legal proceedings for an order compelling RG Machiri to furnish us with the requested information and an order compelling him to conduct the mobile voter registration exercise as per his undertaking,” said the lawyers.

Chinopfukutwa and Saurombe said their request is “in the exercise of our right of access to information, which entitles us to access information held by the state or government agencies.”

Last week, Home Affairs secretary Aaron Nhepera said Garsu Pasaulis, a Lithuanian company controversially issued a tender to produce the country’s new passport documents had also been given a mandate for ID production.

“At the end of March, we are going to embark on an extensive exercise where the Registrar General will issue IDs and this will coincide with the voter registration blitz (second phase) in preparation for the delimitation exercise,” Nhepera said.

He said the Registrar General was not issuing IDs due to “challenges with consumables”, adding: “We are working with Garsu Pasaulis to ensure the RG’s Office begins to operate at an optimum level. We began with issuing passports, and now we will be moving to IDs.”

The main opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) says it is targeting the youth vote and is keen to see thousands of people who turned 18 since the last election in 2018 being issued with IDs which are required when one is registering as a voter.

Chitungwiza Resident Wins Compensation Bid After Falling Into Uncovered Roadside Trench

A Harare Magistrate has punished Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Hon. Felix Mhona by ordering him to pay more than ZWL500 000 in damages to a Chitungwiza resident as compensation for negligence after he sustained injuries when he fell into an uncovered roadside trench at Mbudzi roundabout in Harare.

The Magistrate recently granted the order after the 39 year-old Shepherd Chishiri was assisted by Tinashe Chinopfukutwa of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights to sue Mhona and City of Harare for damages arising from negligence by the two on the basis that City of Harare and the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development breached their duty of care by leaving the roadside trench unmarked and uncovered.

In court, Chishiri said he broke his right leg and had to undergo an operation in hospital at his own expense after he fell into an uncovered roadside trench at Mbudzi roundabout along Simon Mazorodze road in Harare on 23 February 2020 in the evening after he had disembarked from a commuter omnibus.

He blamed Mhona and City of Harare for leaving an open storm water drain and for failing to guard members of the public from foreseeable harm.

The storm water drain, Chishiri said, was unmarked such that it was impossible for him to ascertain its existence.

Chishiri told the court that he suffered a nine percent permanent disability and hence as an avid social soccer player he cannot play his favourite sport anymore and can no longer continuously drive a vehicle.

The Magistrate ordered Mhona to pay Chishiri ZWL506 949 broken down as ZWL200 000 as damages for pain and suffering, ZWL250 000 being damages for future medical expenses, ZWL50 000 for loss of social amenities in life and ZWL6 949 being special damages for medical expenses incurred.

Hon. Mhona, who through his lawyers from the Attorney General’s Office told the court that he was not opposed to Chishiri’s application and would abide by the court’s decision, was also ordered to pay US$1 470 as special damages to cover some medical expenses which Chishiri incurred.

Zanu PF Aspiring MP Hauled To Court For Theft

By A Correspondent- Zanu-PF parliamentary candidate for Goromonzi West constituency Asan Kaunda (30) and his two co-accused appeared in court yesterday facing 35 counts of unlawful entry and theft of property worth $1,6 million.

Kaunda, who was being represented by Tatenda Ndhlovu is being charged together with Jeffrey Harurapwi (21) and Peace Musekiwa (20).

The State alleges that on August 21, 2020 at around 10pm, Harurapwi and Musekiwa connived to steal from a house in Ruwa.

Kaunda then reported the matter posing as a complainant after he and his accomplices broke into the house and stole several goods.

On December 1, 2021 and February 3, 2022, Kaunda and his accomplices stole from Joseph Danger’s house in Ruwa after using an unknown object to force open a door.

This was followed by several other housebreaking cases in January this year, where they got away with cellphones, cash, television sets, blankets and several other items.

They were later arrested, but escaped from lawful custody before their re-arrest in Mhondoro where they were found selling some of the stolen goods.

Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda yesterday remanded the matter to today for bail application.

Mavaza: The Secret Behind ZANU PF Success Revealed

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | Revolutionary parties have been distinguished by a distinctive oraganizational form, a characteristic political ideology, and an intergral conception of membership..

Organizationally, the revolutionary party ZANU PF has practiced ‘democratic centalism and has maintained a people oriented rule. It has kept the values of humanity live. ZANU PF has always kept in mind the reason for going to war and it is live to the fact that the freedom of the masses of Zimbabwe was built by blood and sweat. To that extent ZANU PF takes the independence seriously and it guards it jealously. The structure of ZANU PF concentrates power to the people, subordination of all decisions by lower-ranking bodies to the will of central leaders has successfully managed internal opposition. Ideologically ZANU PF has been distinguished by adherence to Marxism–Leninism, according to which the working class can survive only by eliminating capitalism in alliance with small holders under communist leadership.

Ideology. Officially, ZANU–PF has a socialist ideology. The party maintains a Politburo and a Central Committee. However, the party’s ideology may be changing as Mnangagwa said that “all foreign investments will be safe in Zimbabwe” and calls for “increased production and capacity and new investment in the country.”
ZANU PF is a unifier and it is a product of a unity accord of 1987. The party was formed more than 50 years ago by nationalists who desired to bring about a socio economic and political dispensation that favoured the majority indigenous people. They were formed following decades of oppression by a minority white settler population that had colonized the country.
The fathers of the Zimbabwean revolution led people towards the attainment of independence and pursuit of an ideology that would bring about social justice, economic inclusion and a political voice. This then defines ZANU PF. It is these ideals which keep ZANU PF going.

Conceptually ZANU PF has defined its political identities by an all-or-nothing commitment to serve the people and to lead in a peaceful and humane manner. These traits reprise the development of ZANU PF, the original model, with whose STRENGTH most opposition parties have undergone servere decline.

What has kept ZANU PF together is its ideology and the commitment to freedom. An ideology is a set of beliefs about the proper order of society and how it can be achieved.”

An ideology is based on common understanding of fundamental issues, a common vision and a shared strategy on achieving of goals. ZANU PF is like fish and the people are the water the two cannot be separated.

When people have a common ideology they understand their challenges in the same way and they also believe in same remedies for the ills that afflict their society. They stay longer together than those who have no ideals ad or ideology.

An ideology therefore brings about social cohesion which is an ingredient for peace and development. We can safely say that ideology is what makes us,
This is what ZANU PF fought for. It then is not a surprise that ZANU OF takes the issues of power and governance personally and passionately. ZANU PF you and me have work to do.

Operating on that premises the revolutionary party ZANU PF which is people will resist people with retrogressive ideas be they from opposition or within. The party’s ideology represents a political moral code and worldview. ZANU PF is a revolutionary party whose target was to overturn the racist rule of the White minority and establish the people’s democratic power. As a ruling party it now defines new-democratic dispensation defining its tasks as controlling the state power and making the people masters of themselves. ZANU PF is the one which brought Independence and sovereignty it introduced one man one vote.

The independence of the country came after an arduous circuitous route along which thousands perished. It was a struggle to remove colonial subjugation a struggle to have the majority rule and have the people chose whom they want to lead.

ZANU PF is committed to ensure there will be no reversal of the gains of our hard fought independence. As a sovereign state Zimbabwe is answerable to God and no-one else..

The people of Zimbabwe must never allow any one who comes in any form or clout to threaten these values. That person or yellow colour or whatever form he comes in will be an enemy of our struggle.
ZANU PF now is in another struggle for Resource nationalism. The need to have control over the means of production which is at the heart of ZANU OF’s struggle.
Equitable distribution of resources and opportunities has led ED to bless devolution where resources are allowed to enrich their provinces first.
ZANU PF strive to ensure that wealth is spread as much as possible to the majority population. Despite social media The standard of living has improved greatly despite the sanctions that the nation is operating under.
Democracy is rule of the majority ZANU PF brought about democracy in Zimbabwe in 1980 and since then Zimbabwe has chosen its leaders.
Because of the ideology of the party ZANU PF has won elections and is still winning. It is clear that the word winning must have been created in the same factory with ZANU PF.
What has kept us this far is the democracy in the party. ZANU PF is for all not for individuals.
ZANU PF has established the Chitepo school of ideology for the protection of our culture and heritage.
One of the key tenets of our ideology is protection of the Zimbabwean culture and heritage.
ZANU PF has changed from a party that led the people in the struggle for seizing the state power to a long-term ruling party leading the people to control the state power; it has changed from a party that suffered external blockade and led the state building under a planned economic system to a party leading the state building under the conditions of opening up and developing a vibrant market economy. As a whole, in the new-democratic revolution period, ZANU PF as the ruling party is being punished by the external forces. They wish to wipe ZANU PF out politically, militarily, and even physically. Therefore the democracy, powers, and rights of the ZANU OF existed in no way under the system of the fascist dictatorship of Smith.
In order to lead the people of all colour and creed to topple down imperialism, feudalism, and bureaucratic capitalism, establish a new Zimbabwe and realize the revolutionary target of people’s democracy, ZANU PF used military, political, and other revolutionary forces to defeat the armed forces, smash state machines, and establish a democratically constituted authority.
After founding the Republic of Zimbabwe ZANU PF became the ruling party from a revolutionary party. The position and mission of the ruling party required and determined that, in the political field, ZANU PF must lead and support the people to establish the national political power, democratic system, and legal system under which the people are masters of the country. The ruling party does also guarantee that the people manage national affairs according to the law and embody people’s governance of the systems of the state and government. The ruling party embodies the unity of its advocates and the people’s will in constitution and law, the unity of state powers and people’s rights, and the unity of rule of law and democracy. In the economic field, ZANU PF is leading and supporting the people to control means of production, manage economic affairs in accordance with the law, and constantly release and develop productive forces. In so doing, it has created a rich material foundation and economic conditions for the people to enjoy a commonly prosperous and happy life, and fully exercise their democratic rights. In the social field, the ZANU PF has led. and supported the people to become masters of society, manage social affairs, enjoy social rights, undertake social obligations, and realize social autonomy of the people according to the law. The leadership of ZANU PF as the ruling party, the people’s democracy, and the rule of law are an organic unity. ZANU PF has always acted within the scope of the constitution and the law. It is committed to democratic and scientific governance by law. It takes a lead in enforcing and complying with the law and improving and developing the people’s democracy through various channels and forms such as the rule of law. It leads, supports, and guarantees the people’s role as masters of the country and obtains the power base and source and foundation of legitimacy continuously for its governance from its practices and development of the people’s democracy.
Under ZANU PF ZImbabwe remained one while opposition has broken into pieces. After riding a tsunami of support to re-election in 2018’s polls, the soft spoken ED is by far the most powerful Zimbabwean politician in a generation. He has reengaged and mended the bridges.
Despite the electric Charm ED has the party does not belong to an individual. ZANU PF is not for one person. It is for you and me.

Look for the ideology. Vote for a value, vote for life. Vote Zanu PF.

ZMC Boss Tafataona Mahoso To Retire

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC) chief executive officer, Tafataona Mahoso, who has served the organisation and its predecessor the Media and Information Commission (MIC) for almost two decades, is set to retire at the end of March.

Described in some circles as ‘Zimbabwe’s media hangman’ Mahoso (65) was unpopular with civic society and advocates for media freedom and plurality, who accused him of being used by the repressive Robert Mugabe regime to frustrate the growth of the media industry.
Mahoso was appointed chairman of the MIC in 2003 at the time the government was using the now-repealed draconian Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (AIPPA) to silence private media and served until 2008 when he was removed from office following a court judgement that he was politically-biased.

He was later controversially reappointed to a Zimbabwe media board in October 2009.
During his tenure at MIC Mahoso was behind the closure of The Tribune and its sister newspaper The Weekend Tribune and was also accused of fighting to deny a licence to ANZ, publishers of the Daily News, which had been shut down by the government.

In 2010, during the coalition government era, the former Harare Polytechnic lecturer was controversially appointed ZMC chief executive.

ZMC, which has already started scouting for a new chief executive, confirmed Mahoso’s imminent exit from the commission.

“That’s true,” said ZMC chairperson, Professor Ruby Magosvongwe, adding Mahoso will be leaving in March month-end if all goes well.

Prof Magosvongwe said Mahoso who has been with the commission since its inception had already run his “good race,” adding it was time to inject new blood into the organisation considering the media industry keeps evolving.

“Not that old people do not have what it takes, no,” said Magosvongwe.

“We are saying, we train, we develop, we pass on the baton and it carries on and on.
He is not being retired, he is going on retirement. He has always looked forward to retiring, even if you were to talk to him, he has always looked forward to it.”

Magosvongwe added: “We have engaged him on the subject from the time we got in as a board and he has always expressed willingness to go on retirement. It’s only that the whole idea of institutional memory is critical. He has been at the helm which means he has been the one who holds the memory of the development of the entity from inception to where it is now.”

In a recent vacancy notice, the ZMC board said it was seeking to recruit a holder of a Masters or Ph.D. degree in Journalism, Communication, or any other social science degree with at least 10 years of experience to lead the commission urging qualifying Zimbabweans to apply. Cite.org.zw

Harare Businessman Guns For ‘Biased’ State Prosecutor Michael Reza

By A Correspondent| Harare businessman George Katsimberis has filed an application seeking for the recusal of prosecutor Michael Reza from presiding over his case citing bias against him.

Katsimberis is embroiled in a number of court battles with Pokugara Properties owner Kenneth Raydon Sharpe following a botched joint venture agreement for the construction of cluster houses at the corner of Teviotdale and Whitwell road in Borrowdale.

Through his lawyer Charles Warara, Katsimberis accused Reza of having misled the court and also taking sides in the matter.

“In making the application for recusal, it is emerging that the transcripts to this matter show disturbing conducts of Mr Reza towards this matter. Why is he seeking to mislead the court and has biased interest and is acting in a manner that is not acceptable.

“He is misleading the court on the nature of investigation, he knows intimate details about the on goings at City of Harare. Why is he taking sides as he is against the accused? Why is he defending Chawatama (a city of Harare official) and others, he has acquitted Chawatama whilst he wants my client convicted,” Warara charged.

Chawatama together with other City of Harare officials and Pokugara properties are facing perjury charges where Katsimberis is a State witness whilst at the same time he is a witness in Katsimberis’ case.

Warara said Reza’s situation is akin to conflict of interest and his actions should be above reproach. He further questioned why he was circumventing the dates that Katsimberis reported his cases before Pokugara made a counter report two months later.

Magistrate Letwin Rwodzi is expected to make a ruling on the application on February 22.

Magaisa Left Fuming As Jonathan Moyo Engineers Khupe Return To Chamisa

By A Correspondent| A picture of former MDC-T leader Thokozani Khupe together with CCC Vice President Professor Welshman Ncube and former MDC-T Organising Secretary Abedinico Bhebhe in what appears to be process to reconcile the former deputy Prime Minister and Nelson Chamisa has ruffled feathers in the newly formed yellow movement.

While exiled former Zanu PF politburo member Professor Jonathan Moyo is celebrating the success of his engineered move, the Kent University lecturer Alex Magaisa is not amused and has expressed a strong sentiment against the lack of communication on the move.

Moyo hailed the move as an exhibition of leadership in a tweet shared earlier.

Jonathan Moyo and Magaisa have previously traded blows on social media and have not found each other despite being key players in the CCC name change and developments happening in the main opposition movement.

In a threaded tweet early this morning, Magaisa appeared to hit at the CCC leadership over the move which he said had the potential to cause panic and confusion in the movement.

“The bond of trust between political elites in the cockpit and the passengers is very important. It is fragile and must be handled with care. People don’t want to be taken for granted or to have their emotions on a merry-go-round. Explain your movements,” said Magaisa.

While he has been a key part of the name change process as revealed by a BSR he released soon after Chamisa broke the news to his followers, Magaisa appears to have been left in the dark over the move.

This could be explained by the fact he is not getting along with Jonathan Moyo following their recent public spat on Twitter.

Magaisa said lack of communication leads to speculation which will not help the newly formed movement especially at a time when it is under attack from the Zanu PF regime.

“True, sometimes those in cockpit must make tough decisions as they steer the plane. But communication with the passengers remains important, lest there’s uncertainty, confusion and panic. Lack of communication or half messages lead to speculation which is equally unhelpful.

“When you make important decisions, explain to the people what’s going on and why. People want to believe their leaders have the wisdom to make the right decisions. But don’t leave in a position where they must speculate. Communicate. Communicate. Communicate.

“The CCC has the ball at its feet & everyone wants it. That’s why there’s a flurry of propaganda & other destabilisation efforts from the regime. But the Yellow Train is moving. The only people that can derail it are the leaders of the CCC if they lose focus & make mistakes.

“Whatever decisions they take, they must be smart, well thought out & well-timed. An otherwise good decision made at the wrong time can have terrible consequences. But above all, don’t keep your people in the dark. Communicate with them. Show them some respect.

“If you see your people speculating too much or asking “What’s going on here?” it suggests you’re not communicating well with them. It’s not a good habit. Keep your people onside by communicating well with them. If it’s good news they will support you. If not, hear them out,” said Magaisa.

Felix Mhona Punished Over Road Negligence

Hon. Mhona, who through his lawyers from the Attorney General’s Office told the court that he was not opposed to Chishiri’s application and would abide by the court’s decision, was also ordered to pay US$1 470 as special damages to cover some medical expenses which Chishiri incurred.

CCC Opens Up On Viral Khupe Photo

By A Correspondent- The opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) has finally spoken on a photo of the party’s vice president Welshman Ncube who was pictured with former MDC-T vice president Thokozani Khupe and former MDC-T organising secretary Abednico Bhebhe seemingly emerging from a meeting.

The picture has been circulating on social media platforms since Tuesday, prompting some opposition political activists to speculate that the three could be working together, having been senior members of the original MDC at the turn of the Millenium.

In a statement, CCC said Ncube, Khupe and Bhebhe’s meeting was a private meeting that had nothing to do with the party’s programmes. CCC said:

We note concerns raised by this image. It would appear it was a private meeting. CCC is a new citizens’ project.

The rollout of the program of action and all matters incidental will be announced.

Citizens mustn’t be confused or panic about the health and well-being of their project.

CCC was responding specifically to a Twitter user, Dakarai Chikara, who had expressed disappointment over the picture.

Chikara said:

Disappointed with that picture. Please, we do’t want Khupe in @CCCZimbabwe, she has done more damage to our struggle. Moving away from MDC was a cleansing ceremony.

For us to take that dirt back is very irresponsible. We have enough support all needed is to do a crusade for people to VOTE.

Commenting on the photo, freelance journalist Hopewell Chin’ono cryptically said Khupe’s “dress sense is consistent”. Wrote Chin’ono:

MaKhupe’s dress sense is consistent. You can never say that you are not sure of her taste in dressing.

You can’t complain in the future when she turns up on a date with her usual type of dress when you knew already that she likes those types of dresses. That is her style.

Khupe was recently suspended and subsequently fired by MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora after she announced a split of the party.

Transport Minister Fined ZWL$500k For Negligence

By A Correspondent| A Harare Magistrate has punished Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Hon.

Media Hangman Retires

By- Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC) chief executive officer, Tafataona Mahoso, who has served the organisation and its predecessor the Media and Information Commission (MIC) for almost two decades, is set to retire at the end of March, CITE has established.

Cite.org.zw

Mbappé Stunning Goal Buries Real Madrid

Kylian Mbappé scored a stunning individual goal in stoppage time to give Paris Saint-Germain a 1-0 home victory over Real Madrid and spare Lionel Messi’s blushes after he had missed a penalty in their Champions League last-16, first leg on Tuesday.

It took PSG 94 minutes to find the winner with a brilliant run by Mbappé, who danced in between two defenders and calmly slid the ball into the far corner to earn PSG a deserved victory after they had dominated the encounter.

PSG missed several chances and were thwarted by Real keeper Thibaut Courtois, who denied Mbappé on several occasions before superbly pushing away Messi’s spot kick in the second half.

“It was a great game for us and I’m always ready to help my team, there are no distractions,” Mbappé told reporters.

“We have to be humble and the second leg is still open. It will be a hard game but we will have the advantage and are very confident.”

Madrid struggled to find any rhythm
Real Madrid finished the game with zero shots on target while PSG had eight, with almost 60% of possession.

Madrid will be without Casemiro and Ferland Mendy for the second leg at home on 9 March. The pair were both shown yellow cards and will be suspended for collecting three yellows in the competition.

“Our counter-attack didn’t work today,” Courtois told reporters. “It’s hard to lose but the second leg is wide open. We have to win and we will try to do it in front of our fans, what is a great advantage.”

Courtois repeatedly frustrated Messi and Mbappé. His best save came early in the second half when Messi stepped up for the penalty after Mbappé had been fouled inside the area by Dani Carvajal. The Belgian stretched low to his left to stop the Argentinian’s shot with his hand.

But 30 minutes later Mbappé found the winner and Courtois could only watch as the ball went through his legs and into the corner of the net.- en.as.com

ZEC Totally Fails To Clear Rigging Evidence

Tinashe Sambiri|Cornered Zimbabwe Electoral Commission( ZEC) is battling to spruce up its battered image following clear evidence of rigging brought forward by pressure groups.

Vibrant pressure group Team Pachedu has pointed out that ZEC is manipulating electoral processes in a bid to tilt votes in favour of Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Zanu PF party.

Below is ZEC’s feeble attempt to clear rigging allegations…

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission would like to dismiss allegations of rigging purportedly exposed by an analysis of a national voters’ roll requested by a political party as pure malice bent on diminishing the public’s confidence on the voters’ roll and the country’s electoral processes. The so-called analyses being posted on social media platforms are clearly targeted at confusing the electorate and tarnishing the image of the Commission.

The Commission wishes to make it clear that any voters’ roll that is requested in terms ofsection21(3) of the Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13) is a valid document as at the date of issue and is subject to subsequent addition of any new registrants or removal of voters because of death or disqualification. Please note that voter registration and the maintenance of the voters’ roll is a continuous process in terms of section 17A of the Electoral Act Thus, the removal of deceased voters, duplicates and other malcontents is a continuous exercise necessary for the update of the voters roll in an effort to keep it accurate, complete and current. The state of the voters roll is always very fluid save for cases where rt is deemed dosed for purposes of an election in terms of sections 26A and 121A of the Electoral Act, as the case may be, and in this instance, for wards and constituencies being contested on the 26 March 2022 by-elections whose voters’ rolls have already been closed and compiled.

The public should also know that the Commission has come across a few cases of several different people using the same national identity cards and sometimes, the same physical addresses to register as voters. Investigations have revealed that there are some people who engage in the illegal practice of giving their identity documents to relatives for use. In some cases, the identity documents are stolen and used without the owner’s knowledge. The Commission’s Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) does not pock such anomalies since the fingerprints of the registrants are different because they are indeed different people sharing the same identity cards. However, when the Commission identifies such irregularities, it removes the entries from the voters’ roll and puts them on an exclusion list pending regularisation of the identities by the Civil Registry.

Regarding allegations of too many transfers, the public is hereby informed that the Electoral Law permits any voter who has become resident in another constituency or ward to transfer their registration to that constituency or ward upon production of their proof of identity and requisite residence documents. It is incumbent upon registered voters resident in that constituency or ward to object to the new registration if they feel that that is not the case. ZEC has no authority to deny a voter his or her right to transfer.

The Commission would like to state that the allocation of polling stations to registrants is purely determined by their proofs of residence presented to voter registration officers. Voter registration officers are not duty-bound to go and physically check whether

the details on the affidavits and other proofs of residence presented to them by prospective registrants are correct or not. It behoves on all eligible voters and other stakeholders to act in good faith in relation to all electoral processes and the public is reminded that an affidavit is a sworn statement and If one presents fake information on affidavits used as proof of residence, they commit an offence of perjury.

ZEC is not secretly changing boundaries as alleged by the so-called analysts and no boundary delimitation has started. Delimitation is a public exercise involving stakeholder consultations and it shall only commence after the conclusion of the national population census. The allegations are therefore unfounded and meant only to tarnish the image of the Commission and to mislead stakeholders.
The Electorate is advised that the Commission, in line with the provisions of the law, wiN publish a notice of its intention to commence the delimitation exercise and the public will be informed of this development in due course.

Fantan Angers Fans After Attending Mnangagwa Rally

Zanu PF has defended Zim Dancehall record label, Chillspot Records, after it was criticised for their performance at the party’s weekend star rally in Epworth.

Chillspot Records producers Arnold Kamudyariwa better known as Fantan and Rodger Tafadzwa Kadzimwe, also known as Levels, led a team of artistes who entertained ZANU PF supporters at the rally.

Posting on Twitter, one Luckson Chinanga, expressed displeasure over the decision by Fantan and Levels to perform at the ZANU PF rally. He wrote:

When one decides to side with the oppressor, the oppressed are bound to react.

In the days of the liberation war, such people like Fantan who betrayed the struggle faced a painful death.

However, ZANU PF defended the Mbare-based music producers, saying people should leave them alone. The party said:

Any political party which fights Chillspot is bound to fail. Trying to separate Chillspot from youths is asking to separate dancehall and reggae from ghetto youths. People should allow artists to thrive.

Fantan was derided by some social media users on Twitter when he openly endorsed ZANU PF, going as far as thanking President Emmerson Mnangagwa for “the good roads he is building”.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services ministry permanent secretary, Nick Mangwana, was seemingly surprised by the level of intolerance displayed after Chillspot’s performance. He tweeted:

I have seen some scathing attacks against Fantan and others who attended some political function.

These astounding attacks betrayed serious intolerance issues among those who falsely claim to advocate for human rights and democracy.

Some of these are just self-serving cyber-bullies.

ZANU PF is reportedly giving cash to influential young celebrities like Fantan, Passion Java and DJ Towers to help support the party’s in the upcoming by-elections and 2023 general elections.

Warriors Legend Shot Dead In SA

Former Warriors defender Charles Yohane has died. He was 48.

Yohane was shot dead in South Africa by armed carjackers. Details are still sketchy but a family member confirmed that they received news about Yohane’s death and were traveling to South Africa on Wednesday.

Yohane’s close friend and former Orlando Pirates defender Innocent Chikoya who also hails from Mbare has been communicating with the family in Zimbabwe.

Yohane played for Fire Batteries in Zimbabwe before moving to South Africa where he played for African Wanderers, AmaZulu, Bidvest Wits and AK FC. Yohane was part of the first group of Warriors to the Africa Cup of Nations in 2004.

He was also part of the second group of Warriors to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations in 2006. He was capped 23 times with the Warriors. May His Dear Soul Rest In Peace.

Sulu Bunks Show ?

By-Dendera musician Sulumani Chimbetu failed to pitch up for a scheduled family show at Spirtzkop Leisure Centre in Harare on Sunday.

Instead, Afro-fusion musician Carlos Green ended up serenading fans, warming up the stage in anticipation of Sulu’s arrival.

The Alice Mbewe hitmaker kept fans waiting until curfew hours, resulting in fans protesting.

They threw missiles on stage, compelling Carlos Green to stop his performance.
“We saw the posters saying that Sulu would perform here at a family show, but we are surprised he has not pitched up. We fear it’s getting late and we are towards curfew,” said Addlife, one of the fans.
“We did not see any posters of this Carlos Green guy, but his guys were the ones collecting the entrance fees at the gate.”
Takunda Maravanyika, who runs the joint, felt betrayed by Sulu.
“We had agreed that Sulu would perform at a family show dubbed Ndiwe Chete Mudzimai Wangu as a pre-Valentine’s Day gig, surprisingly the musician did not pitch up,” Maravanyika said.
“We had organised the show with Sulu’s manager Carlton Mparutsa and they even acknowledged by advertising the show on the musician’s Facebook page.”
“People protested after this guy (Carlos Green) kept on singing. We even checked with Carlton for Sulu’s arrival time and he kept promising us that he was on his way.”
Maravanyika added: “Fans became impatient and demanded their money back, arguing that they had come to see Sulu. It was Sulu’s team that had added Carlos Green to curtain-raise, not us. We did not negotiate any deal with Carlos Green.”
“We were forced to reimburse some of the fans as a way of maintaining our good brand.”
Mparutsa yesterday said he was not aware of the show.
“I can’t comment on that as I am not informed. I was away in Honde Valley for a funeral and only arrived last night,” he said. Newsday

Vanguard Africa Denounces Biti Arrest

Tinashe Sambiri|Citizens’ Coalition For Change spokesperson Advocate Fadzayi Mahere has blasted the State media for claiming that the party’s vice president Hon Tendai Biti was not arrested.

The panicky regime arrested Hon Biti for no apparent reason in Harare on Monday.

Hon Biti was arrested by police officers from the Law and Order Section as he was addressing a rally in Greendale.

A State-run publication claimed :” Biti Not Arrested”

In response Advocate Mahere said:
“Stop lying! Hon BitiTendai was arrested and detained at Harare Central Police Station then moved to Rhodesville Police Station where no charges were preferred against him. Why did those 3 police officers deprive him of his liberty & arrest him without charge? Shameful lot!”

Vanguard Africa also condemned the arrest of Hon Biti.
“We are informed that @BitiTendai’s been released without charge. His treatment, however, is beyond unacceptable. This is classic authoritarian behavior often exhibited by the @edmnangagwa regime: Frustrate, impede and intimidate the opposition.”

illegal gambling slot machines to prevent unregistered casino operators from
flourishing.

The operation was launched at Morris Depot in Harare
yesterday.

The campaign was attended by senior police officers and
officials from the Lotteries and Gaming Board, Bookmakers Association and the
Casino Association.

Malvin Ndlovu, an official from the Casino Association,
expressed concern over a rise in money-laundering and illegal gambling crimes,
as well as the prevalence of drugs at illegal gambling hubs.

“We need to stop illegal gamblers by reporting them to the
police,” he said.

Exposing ZEC Rigging

Tinashe Sambiri|The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission( ZEC) is finding it difficult to rig elections in favour of Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Zanu PF party.

Popular pressure group Team Pachedu has vowed to expose ZEC’s rigging tactics.

“We have taken note of ZEC’s statement.

Sadly, the statement does not explain anything, e.g., the mass movement of voters across wards and constituencies when addresses HAVE NOT changed.

We urge ZEC to provide statistical counterevidence and not these empty statements.

ZEC lied in its statement that there was no mass-movement of voters across wards.

This list shows that many Bubi Constituency Ward 22 residents have now been moved to totally different wards, yet their addresses have NOT CHANGED,” Team Pachedu argued.

We Are Clean – ZEC

Biti Speaks On Monday Arrest

By- Citizens Coalition for Change vice president Tendai Biti said his arrest by the police Monday showed that Zimbabwe needed fundamental changes for the rule of law to be observed.

Biti was arrested in Greendale and taken to Law and Order Department at Harare Central Police Station before he was transferred to Rhodesville Police Station.

Posting on Twitter this Tuesday, Biti said:
They arrested us yesterday without charge or cause while on our campaign at Letombo Spar in Msasa. They took us to Law and Order Department at Harare Central Police Station.
They eventually released us without charge at Rhodesville Police Station. This was wanton abuse of our rights and the rule of law.
Yesterday’s events demonstrate why real and fundamental change is required in Zimbabwe.
A brand new consensus based on putting citizens first based on trust, justice equality and inclusiveness.
We are however grateful to Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) lawyers, Tino, Idi, the indefatigable Alec Muchadehama for help.
We express our indebtedness to countless citizens all over for their love and concern.
We express gratitude to [journalist Hopewell Chin’ono], [The NewsHawks], [Makomborero Haruzivishe] and many others.
They can bend us, kill us or detain us but there will be a change in Zimbabwe and soon. We shall never give up. Zikomo zikomo.
Biti was arrested while on a “meet and greet” campaign as he is the CCC candidate for Harare East constituency in the 26 March by-election.
His arrest comes after ZANU PF held a rally in Epworth on Saturday which was attended by thousands of people.
The MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora also staged a rally in Highfields also on Saturday with hundreds of people in attendance. In both instances, the ZRP did not make any arrests.

Chamisa Disowns Fired Mutare Mayor

By-The Nelson Chamisa’s Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has disowned Mutare Mayor Blessing Tandi, who MDC-T has recalled.

Mwonzora recalled Tandi on allegations that he was working with Chamisa.

But CCC Manicaland spokesperson David Panganayi said:

Tandi was no longer with us anymore as he was floating between Zanu PF and MDC-T.

We never propelled any propaganda since it was his right to join any party of his choice.

He exercised that right when the first batch of councillors was recalled.

We understand he was part of the list of recalls, but we never bothered to enquire about the reasons for a delay.

We strongly believed he had joined Zanu PF or MDC-T.

We are the Citizens Coalition for Change and everyone including Tandi is free to join us so that we can finish the job at hand.

MDC-T national spokesperson Witness Dube revealed that Tandi was recalled some time ago.

He said the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works delayed notifying the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) for unspecified reasons. Said, Dube:

Basically, the main reason for Tandi’s recall is incompetence. The party is tightening its grip on public officials particularly the mayors who are failing to lead in the level of excellence expected from our local authorities.

Mwonzora Purges Another “Chamisa” Sympathiser

By-MDC-T president Douglas Mwonzora has recalled Mutare Mayor Blessing Tandi on allegations of secretly working with Nelson Chamisa’s Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).

MDC-T Manicaland spokesperson, Sekai Gombe, confirmed Tandi’s recall in an interview with New Zimbabwe on Monday. Said Gombe:

Former mayor Tandi was working with CCC but some kind of propaganda was propelled to seem as if he was working with the Mwonzora-led party to evade a recall.

He should have been recalled a very long time ago but local government ministry officials were delaying the process.

Meanwhile, CCC, formerly MDC Alliance, has distanced itself from Tandi saying they believed he had joined either MDC-T or ZANU PF. CCC Manicaland spokesperson David Panganayi said:

Tandi was no longer with us anymore as he was floating between Zanu PF and MDC-T.

We never propelled any propaganda since it was his right to join any party of his choice.

Woman Burns Bedroom Over Valentine Messages

By-A 20-year-old Kuwadzana woman on Sunday set her lover’s bedroom on fire for ignoring her Valentine’s messages and calls.

Diana Maphosa burnt furniture, a laptop, radio, clothes and blankets belonging to her lover Kudakwashe Mushumbi.

He had blocked her on his phone when she wanted to know of their Valentine’s Day plans.

Diana travelled almost three kilometres from Kuwadzana 6 to Kuwadzana Extension and scaled the security wall to gain entry into the house where Kudakwashe’s father was asleep.

She is alleged to have set Kudakwashe’s room on fire, after removing only his certificates.
Kudakwashe and his mother were attending a church service when Diana struck.
She was spotted by neighbours, leading to her arrest.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tendai Mwanza, confirmed the arrest saying Diana was facing arson, unlawful entry and theft charges.
“Police are investigating a case in Kuwadzana involving a woman believed to have unlawfully gained entry into the house of her lover’s parents where she set a room on fire,” said Insp Mwanza.
“She was reported to have taken three certificates and a tablet belonging to her lover before setting the room on fire.
“She was spotted jumping over a pre-cast wall by neighbours and they ran after her.
“In the house was her lover’s father, who was reported to have been asleep when she started the fire.
“He only escaped after the house was engulfed in smoke.
“On being questioned, she claimed the certificates belonged to her brother, and neighbours informed the lover leading to her arrest.
“She was detained at Kuwadzana Police Station and is expected to appear in court tomorrow,” said Insp Mwanza.
Kudakwashe’s mother told H-Metro Diana had confronted her a day before the incident claiming that she was her daughter-in-law but her lover had been ignoring her calls and messages.
“This lady came on Saturday introducing herself as my daughter-in-law,” said Kudakwashe’s mother.
“Her argument was that Kudakwashe started ignoring her love messages and blocked her calls when she asked him about their Valentine’s Day preparations.
“She threatened to deal with Kudakwashe if he continued ignoring her considering that he had sexually abused her.
“I left my husband asleep when I attended church with Kudakwashe only to be called after neighbours spotted her leaving our house, which was engulfed in smoke.
“Baba vanga vachatofiramo nekuti tavasiya vakarara mumba kwakutozobuda vakachidzwa neutsi,” she said.

All Eyes On Lionel Messi As PSG, Madrid Clash

Paris Saint-Germain coach Mauricio Pochettino has described tonight’s potentially epic Champions League round of 16 first leg against Real Madrid, as a big night for Lionel Messi.

The two sides meet at the Parc des Princes with the eyes of the football world firmly on the contest.

No player in history has scored more goals against Real Madrid than Messi, with the Argentine magician netting 26 times for Barcelona before his move to Paris.

Pachettino believes the 7-time World Player of the Year will be decisive tonight.

“The team is doing well; we don’t really need to talk about form. There’s a lot of motivation for this game; all the players are highly motivated. Lionel Messi is in good shape and showing a lot of desire. It’s a big night for him with his talent and his experience,” Pochettino said ahead of the clash.

“We want to have things clear in our minds and be certain that we’re doing the right thing. We can share things with the players so that we’re in agreement, but the most important thing during these last three days of training is to be sure that we’re going in the right direction. That’s key, as we’ve got the talent. I think that with our qualities, we can exploit Real Madrid’s weaknesses and counteract their strong points,” he added.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Senegal Names Stadium After Sadio Mane

A football stadium in the south-western city of Sedhiou in Senegal has been named after Sadio Mane after the Liverpool forward led the Teranga Lions to their maiden Afcon triumph.

Mane captained the side, and his outstanding performances won him the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award at the tournament. He scored the winning penalty against Egypt as the West Africans won 4-2 on penalties in the final.

Senegal’s minister of culture and communication, Adboulaye Diop, confirmed the news this past week.

“I would like, through this decision to give the name of Sadio Mané to the Stade de Sédhiou, to express the recognition of all the daughters and sons of the region, towards a man who makes known to the humanity as a whole, Bambali and its regional capital, namely Sédhiou,” Diop said, as cited by BBC.

“Sadio Mané really deserves this honour.”

Outside the pitch, Mane has also been involved in charitable acts in his home town by pledging money to build a hospital and school, contributing to constructing mosques and providing funds to aid the fight against Covid-19. – Soccer24 Zimbabwe

How Does Air Pollution Affect Your Immune System

Credit: World Health Organization

Vismita Gupta-Smith

Why does WHO consider air pollution a major public health emergency? If you live in areas with high levels of air pollution, does COVID-19 impact you differently? Hello and welcome to Science in 5, I’m Vismita Gupta-Smith. We are talking to Dr. Maria Neira today.

Welcome, Maria. Maria, let’s start with why does WHO consider air pollution a major public health emergency?

Biti Harassment Beyond Unacceptable – Vanguard Africa

Team Pachedu Grills ZEC Over Plot To Rig Elections

Where Are We Going As Teachers?

Nurses expressed their grievances long back . They demanded a living wage only to be notified that they had been fired.

As student teachers we stand in solidarity with our mentors. Teachers are incapacitated and they can’t breathe.

If teaching is the mother of all professions this must be reflected in their salaries. We have reduced our teachers to beggars in society. A  teacher in Chiredzi hired a donkey to carry his bag to his work station and this sums up the plight of teachers. The bar is on the flow.

Teachers are demotivated. How is a teacher who earns less than $200 usd expected to teach your child whilst he is not able to pay for her /his child’s fees. Teachers are human beings who deserve a living wage.  They need to pay bills for their own families, wear presentable clothes and other necessities. Lets pay teachers and not  threaten them.

Education is the key to success. This blanket suspension of teachers must condemned by all with the contempt it deserves. The unions are clear, they want restoration of their 2018 salaries.

Teachers used to be role models of society but now they are the poorest members of society and no one wants their child to be a teacher anymore.

As student teachers we are standing in support of the restoration of 2018 salaries and better working conditions.

The fight will not end until the teacher’s dignity is restored. We demand

  1. Living salaries and wages
  2. Good working conditions
  3. Restoration of teachers dignity and pride

Zinasu is standing with all progressive movements supporting better living conditions and  good working conditions for teachers

5 Zimbabweans In Identity Fraud Storm In Newcastle

A gang of fraudsters targeted rural County Durham addresses in order to intercept their post and steal identities.

The five men, some of whom are refugees from Zimbabwe, stole post and got hold of personal details so that they could then obtain “numerous” credit cards.

It’s estimated around £165,000 worth of credit was obtained by the gang in total in 2018, some of which was used to buy expensive items during shopping trips to Newcastle and the Metrocentre.

A member of the group also used a false name to book a stay at Headlam Hall Hotel in Darlington where he ordered champagne and dinner.

Tendai Dlamini, 41, Gray Gwewo, 26, Raphael Munemo, 33, Vincent Zhanje-Zwouche, 31, and Tacu Ndhlovu, 27, appeared at Durham Crown Court on Monday to be sentenced for the fraud conspiracy.

Paul Abrahams, prosecuting, said the men were caught as part of an investigation led by the North East Regional Special Operations Unit (NERSOU).

The gang “deliberately targeted” rural addresses in York and County Durham where the post boxes were located away from the homes and on main roads.

Their post was then intercepted by the gang and credit was then applied for using their personal details.

After that, victims’ accounts would be “taken over”.

Mr Abrahams said the fraud had a “great impact” on the victims, some of whom ran farms.

Zambian-born Munemo was said to be the leader, and booked a stay at Headlam Hall where he ordered champagne and dinner, the court heard.

He made shopping trips to Birmingham, Newcastle and the Metrocentre and obtained around £105,000 credit – £23,928 of which was used.

Zhanje-Zwouche was said to have had a “lesser role” to Munemo, and used around £24,000 credit.

Gwewo stole post on behalf of the others and used around £45,000 credit.

Dlamini, who had 22 previous convictions for offences of theft and violence, used £2,000 credit and was found guilty after a trial.

Ndhlovu was said to be “less involved” than the others, but used £22,000 credit.

Defending barrister, OlaJide Lanlehin, for Dlamini, said he was “deeply apologetic” and had a “deep sense of remorse”.

Dlamini, who appeared via link from HMP Durham, also read out a tearful letter to the court, pleading for forgiveness.

Stephen Tete, defending Munemo, who also appeared via link from HMP Durham and was found guilty after trial, said he had now “changed in character”, and had arrived in the UK at the age of 17 following the loss of his parents.

Judge Ray Singh indicated that the other three defendants would receive suspended sentences.

The judge said the gang “committed identity fraud which led on to applications to a number of banking and credit card institutions”.

He said credit cards were issued “without difficulty”.

Dr Khupe Warms Up To Alliance

By A Correspondent- Self appointed MDC-T president Thokozani Khupe has revealed that her party would soon announce the formation an alliance with other political parties as the country heads for the 2023 plebiscite.

This was revealed by her spokesperson Ntando Ndlovu who told NewsDay that it was high time opposition political parties spoke with one voice in demanding electoral reforms.

He also said that his party was running a campaign under the theme #Beat the Pot; No Vote for Mwonzora; No Vote for Zanu-PF in various wards where by-elections would be held throughout the country.

Last month, Khupe announced that she was breaking away from the MDC Alliance after Mwonzora announced that he was its leader and she declared herself the MDC-T leader.

“We deliberately did not field candidates in the upcoming by-elections because we took a principled position not to split the opposition votes.

“We are currently running a campaign which we launched a week ago under the theme #Beat the pot; No Vote for Mwonzora; No Vote for Zanu-PF.

“The president of the party,  Khupe will soon make an announcement on who we are urging MDC-T supporters to vote for in the by-elections because the party is conscious that a complete boycott of the polls will give advantage to Zanu-PF,” Ndlovu said.

Efforts to get a comment from Mwonzora’s spokesperson Llyod Damba were fruitless yesterday.

Meanwhile, Ndlovu also said the electoral playing field was not level as there was unequal access to State media.

“In some areas, we have witnessed police officers disrupting opposition activities and there is this worrying claim that Zec is clandestinely moving voters to different polling stations. We urge all the political parties to speak with one voice in demanding electoral reforms. In particular, we are urging the regional bloc, Southern Africa Development Community, to work with Zimbabwean political actors in guaranteeing a free and fair 2023 election.”

S_exual Harassment Claims For S.A Professor At Harvard University

By A Correspondent- Sexual harassment claims have been levelled against a South African professor at Harvard University.

In a statement, the university said that three students lodged complaints against Professor John Comaroff.

According to Harvard’s website, South-African born Comaroff, 77, is a professor of African and African American studies and anthropology at the institution and an honorary professor of anthropology at the University of Cape Town.

Harvard University said on Thursday that it had conducted “thorough reviews” and found that Comaroff engaged in verbal conduct that violated the sexual and gender-based harassment policy and the professional conduct policy of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS).

“Sanctions for that conduct were issued by the FAS on 20 January 2022 and included, among other things, unpaid administrative leave for the spring semester and limiting Professor Comaroff’s teaching and advising activities through at least the 2022/23 academic year,” the statement read.

News24 was not able to reach Comaroff for comment at the time of publication.

The Harvard Crismon reported that Comaroff denied the allegations of misconduct, saying the University had not accorded him a “fair process”.

According to the Washington Post, the three students launched a lawsuit against the university on Tuesday last week. They claimed the university ignored complaints about the alleged sexual harassment.

They alleged that Comaroff used his position to “exploit aspiring scholars” by kissing and groping students without their consent. He also allegedly made unwelcome sexual advances to students and threatened to sabotage students’ careers if they complained, the report stated.

In response to the lawsuit, the university disputed the allegations.

“Harvard University disputes the allegations of the lawsuit brought by Sanford Heisler Sharp, LLP, which are in no way a fair or accurate representation of the thoughtful steps taken by the university in response to concerns that were brought forward, the thorough reviews conducted, and the results of those reviews,” it said.

Following disciplinary action against Comaroff, a letter was signed by almost 40 faculty members who questioned the results of the misconduct investigation, the Harvard Crimson reported. In the letter Comaroff was reportedly described as “an excellent colleague, advisor and committed university citizen”.

Since the lawsuit was launched, almost all the signatories have reportedly retracted their support.

ZANU PF Youths Launch Emmerson Mnangagwa Cup

Banket – A ten-team national sports tournament is set to be launched soon by the ZANU PF youth league.

The Sports tournament which will be known as the Emmerson Mnangagwa Youth Cup Tournament will see the ruling party’s youths battle out in both male and female soccer, netball and volleyball disciplines.

ZANU PF Mashonaland West Provincial Youth League Chairperson, Tapiwa Masenda revealed about the tournament whilst addressing the party’s youth inter-district meeting at Banket Sports Club on Sunday.

“Our President (Emerson Mnangagwa) has donated sporting kits to us as we are going to launch a sports tournament which will be called ED Youth Cup. We got uniforms from the President for netball, volleyball, and both men’s and women’s soccer. The President has urged our party to embark on talent identification and development. The tournament will start from the district level up to the provincial tournament where we will pick the best teams that will participate in the national Ed Youth Cup tournament. This is meant to bring all young people together to foster unity as we peacefully campaign for our President so that he wins the 2023 elections resoundingly,” he said.

Masenda said all provinces have already received the sports kits.He admitted that the current voter registration exercise has seen few young people being registered as voters as most of them don’t have national identity documents.

The politician said plans are underway for mobile national identity documents rollout programme so that young people contribute to the 5 million votes for the ruling party.

“A lot of young people I know you don’t have national identity documents. We cannot win the election by our set target if we as young people don’t get registered. We have been assured that plans have been made that you get IDs through the mobile identity documents exercise just similar to the mobile voter registration blitz.”

He revealed that the ruling party’s provincial youth league is reprimanding the youths to desist from social media abuse by posting party internal squabbles on various social media platforms“Desist from the habit of using social media for personal scores. The opposition will take this up against us. If you have any grievances, don’t take them to social media but use the proper channels, I will deal with anyone posting sensitive party issues on social media,” he said.

Masenda said the youth league will demand to know how the economy is doing by putting various government leaders to account including demanding knowledge of how funds distributed from the government through various channels such as community development fund (CDF) and devolution funds are being used.

He also called for the youth league involvement in the selection and monitoring of the Presidential Scholarship program.

“The scholarship is from our President. It is ours so we need to know who is benefitting from our youth league. The youths are the first preferences for the scholarship. We want to monitor the exercise so that those going out to study abroad don’t become sell-outs,” he added.

“State Of The Voters Roll Fluid”: ZEC Dismisses Rigging Allegations

Letter to the President of Zimbabwe. Death penalty is imperatively needed

Dear His Excellency President Emerson Mnangagwa

Mr. President I write this letter as a concerned citizen of Zimbabwe. Our country is no longer peaceful  at all.

There are now more criminals than before. Our people are being robbed with knives, guns and other weapons. Our citizens are now living in fear of criminals.

There is now no more fear of the law among our citizens. Now our people live in fear of criminals instead of criminals fearing the people.

Mr President I ask you to implement death penalty for capital offenders. These evil people who are robbing, raping and killing innocent people must be put to death.

Our country does not need them. Even Chikurubi Maximum Prison does not need them. Resources can’t be wasted feeding them. They must get capital punishment.

If you look at the Arab countries you can see that death penalty will act as a greater deterrent to violent crime.

Mr President our country has become evil. With a lot of people now practicing witchcraft. I ask you to direct the parliament of Zimbabwe to repeal Suppression of Witchcraft Act.

As you are aware majority of our people have turned to witchcraft as result of envy and jealousy. We can’t be a society that does not allow our people to speak out against these sadists practices.

There is power in words those who practice such shenanigans must be exposed and condemned. But this law, Suppression of Witchcraft Act which was enacted during colonial times is preventing and suppressing  our citizens from speaking out.

Mr President your authority and position can create much good in our Zimbabwean society.

We  want to be a society with less crime and where our citizens live in peace. I kindly ask you to excercise the authority God has given you in countering crime and protecting peace loving Zimbabweans.

Thank you so much. May God bless you.

Yours Faithfully,

Collen Makumbirofa

God Is For Everyone, Jonathan Moyo Tells ED

Exiled former Zanu PF politburo member and minister Jonathan Moyo has made startling claims President Emmerson Mnangagwa has assembled a hit squad to track him down and other ex-party loyalists to assassinate them.

Moyo, once fiercely opposed to Mnangagwa’s spirited manoeuvres to succeed then President Robert Mugabe, fled to Kenya when the now incumbent muscled his way to power November 2017.

However, distance has not shut him from being an influential factor capable of influencing the trajectory of Zimbabwean politics as he has used his Twitter handle to reveal some goings on within both government and Zanu PF.

Moyo has also emerged as a strong supporter of Nelson Chamisa’s opposition CCC, which poses a significant threat to unseat Mnangagwa in crucial elections next year.

In a fresh twit Monday, Moyo claimed Mnangagwa is out to eliminate him.

“Dear Emmerson,” he wrote, “I have impeccable information that you’ve put together a joint hit squad with elements from CIO Counter Intelligence and MID to go after me and other exiled Cdes; you have targeted since your Nov 2017 Army coup. All I can say is that God is for everyone!”

Teachers Accuse Unions Of Betrayal

By A Correspondent- Some teachers who have not been taking classes since last week citing incapacitation, have accused the Zimbabwe Teachers Union (ZIMTA) and the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) of betraying them.

One aggrieved teacher who spoke to NewsDay on Monday castigated the unions for allegedly conniving with the government to suspend them.

Said the teacher:

ZIMTA and PTUZ are selling out but we are not going to go back to work as we are still incapacitated.

However, ZIMTA secretary-general Goodwill Taderera denied selling out the teachers. He said:

I wouldn’t call it selling out. We are just working on what was discussed with the National Joint Negotiating Committee (NJNC).

There is a circular that ZIMTA put out urging teachers to go back to work.

PTUZ president Takavafira Zhou yesterday also denied the allegations that his union has let down teachers. Zhou said:

I have a track record to protect. To whom will I even sell the struggle when the government does not want to see my face in any meeting as they accuse me of supporting the regime change agenda?

I cannot salivate at ZANU PF predatory leaders, thuggery and thievery.

The majority of teachers and headmasters at public schools initially rejected the Government’s 20% salary increment to all civil servants and a US$100 allowance to be converted from the local currency salary component.

They vowed not to return to work until the Government restored their pre-October 2018 salary of US$540.

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Evelyn Ndlovu responded by suspending all the striking teachers, but the move has been challenged in court

Zim Woman Nabbed Over Heroin In India

By A Correspondent- A Zimbabwean woman believed to be in her forties was arrested at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai, India, on Saturday night for smuggling heroin.

The airport customs officials arrested the woman for trying to smuggle heroin and methamphetamine worth close to ₹60 crores to India.

The woman has been identified as Harare resident Rosie Diamon, a cancer patient believed to be from a poor background.

She had arrived from Harare to Mumbai via Kigali on Saturday by RwandAir flight WB-500.

An official from the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU), Mumbai, confirmed the arrest. Said the official:

The examination of the baggage resulted in the recovery of 7,006 grams of yellowish powder tested as “Heroin” and 1,480 grams white crystal granules tested to contain a combination of Heroin and ‘Methamp’ (short form of Methamphetamine). The said drugs were subsequently seized.

The official added that the seized drugs collectively weighed 8.486kg and are worth approximately ₹59,40,20,000 in the illicit market.

The drugs were reportedly concealed inside the trolley bag, in the executive bag and two file folders.

During questioning, the Zimbabwean woman informed investigators that the drugs were handed over to her in Harare and the same were to be delivered in New Delhi.

She said after reaching Mumbai, she was supposed to travel to New Delhi by train a few days later.

This was to ensure minimum risk of travelling with contraband to the capital.

An AUI officer said the suspect was offered free medical treatment in India in lieu of trafficking drugs.

She now faces a sentence of 20 years.

The Zimbabwean woman claimed that she was told that the person who was supposed to receive the delivery of the contraband would himself contact her on reaching Delhi.

Customs officers were reportedly scanning her phone and were trying to find out details of her associates.

The suspect has been to India before. She visited the country in 2019 but she did not smuggle any contraband at the time.

Diamon was charged under relevant sections of the Customs Act for smuggling drugs.

She appeared in court and was remanded in judicial custody to 25 February.

After her RT-PCR test, she would be lodged in jail.

Kit Kat Chocolate Recalls Products Laced With Pieces Of Glass

Kit Kat

By A Correspondent- Authorities in Mozambique are collecting Kit Kat chocolate products in that country following reports that they could be laced with pieces of glass.

Mozambique’s National Inspection of Economic Activities (INAE) launched the campaign to collect the products after the food and beverage company Nestle South Africa announced the voluntary withdrawal of some of its products from the market.

The products that are being withdrawn in connection with the potential presence of pieces of glass are Kit Kat Mini Bag Milk 32 per 200 grams and Kit Kat Two Finger Milk 36 per 20 grams, with expiry dates of 30 September and October 31, 2022, respectively.

On a positive note, as of Friday last week, Mozambican inspection teams had not found any of the products suspected of containing pieces of glass in official markets. INAE inspector general Rita Freitas said:

According to Nestlé, the product was not exported to Mozambique, but our fear is that the chocolates have entered illegally and are already on the market, so we urge people to report them if they find them for sale.

In a press release, Nestle said that to date, no complaints or injuries have been reported. It said:

We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution having discovered the presence of small pieces of glass during our quality and safety checks.

Nestle said the voluntary recall is limited to products with the production codes listed below only. No other sizes and variants of KitKat products (dark chocolate and white chocolate) are affected by the recall. Nestle has recalled the products listed below:

Nestlé KitKat 2 Finger Milk 36x20g UTZ MB with production codes “13590177″‚ “13600177″‚ “13620177″‚ “13630177″‚ “13640177″‚ “13650177″‚ “20010177″‚ “20100177″‚ “20110177″‚ “20100177″‚ and “20110177″ visible on the back of the packaging; and Mini Bag Milk 32x200g UTZ with production codes “20120177″‚ “20010177″‚ “20020177″‚ “20030177″‚ “20080177″‚ “13620177″‚ “13600177″‚ and “13610177″ visible on the back of the packaging.

On 2 February, Nestle SA announced the voluntary recall of the chocolate bars listed above due to the possibility that they may contain pieces of glass.

Apostle Chiwenga, Apostle Newman: Chamisa Taking Over Presidency In Yellow Power

Talent Chiwenga

Below is the video of the street preacher Talent Chiwenga changing his own prophecy. In the compilation is Chiwenga’s original video between 2014 and 2016, and the last one comprises his statements around and after the 2018 elections which he had earlier on announced saying would make Chamisa President of Zimbabwe.

Tinashe Sambiri
A west African prophet has delivered an oracle saying ZANU PF President Emerson Mnangagwa faces imminent death.

The prophet, Apostle Newman, said Mnangagwa is mislead by false prophets. He added saying the future of Zimbabwe is in the hands of a young man called Chamisa.

He said in full:

The current President of Zimbabwe if you don’t leave office when your time is genuinely due, you will die there, you won’t even see the next term. Zimbabwe is a nation loved by God and a nation that loves God.

There are still people who are praying in Zim for the will of God to be done even though there are many false dirty prophets, carrying themselves. There is a man called Emeritus as well, if I am not mistaken they made him His Excellency. I don’t know if he was made Excellency by this same president.

Mr President you must be desperate; making prophet excellency doesn’t mean the excellency is in you. The great excellency is Jesus. Mr President of Zim get on your knees and seek God’s face yourself. If you want to hear the truth God’s will for you, God’s plan is for you to finish your term, and go to your house, Zimbabwe oh Zimbabwe, hear this: tell your president, if he wants to live long, let him finish your term, and let him retire to his house.

Don’t be fooled because if you die these same prophets, these excellencies, and her excellencies and all these Passion Fruit, navigation javas, they will not die with you. Go and read the Bible these prophets have mislaid many Kings in the past and they die, by not listening to the voice of God. Nobody can cheat Zimbabwe of her destiny. God is particular about Zimbabwe now, do you know the future of Zimbabwe is a young man called Chamisa?

A young man is the future of Zimbabwe not the man that is there now. Let the true prophetic voices in Zim start speaking, and not these entertainers, Passion Fruit Navigating Javas, these men are pocketing your national cake in their pockets, claiming God is speaking through them. Africa’s hope is not in old men. Zimbabwe, man who is in his 70s and 80s, telling you he wants to rule you. Zimbabwe oh Zimbabwe; your destiny is in the hands of a young man, called Chimasa, or Chamisa or something like that.

Mavaza: Decline And Fall Of Cities Under Opposition | OPINION

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | Why do councils fail? What happens when they do?

Dr Masimba Mavaza

As a party ZANU PF has been grappling with these questions for some time, but just at the moment they seem more pressing than ever. It’s not just Harare and Bulawayo and the spectre of other councils but every council in Zimbabwe has been limping and crawling after being abuses and violated by the MDC led councillors. Failure is often many years in the making. Councils become less outward looking, more introspective, more defensive – they develop narratives about themselves and their own performance which increasingly bear no relation to reality.
On the national stage we see the end product of this gradual slide when it escalates into the public domain – often precipitated by events that make no sense to outsiders. How can this have been allowed to happen? Failure seems so obvious and self-evident that we fool ourselves that we couldn’t fall into the same traps and yet failure continues to happen.
We’re worried that we don’t, in our party have the mechanisms to deal consistently with council failure – particularly as the risks (not only financial) continue to grow. This is because almost all the councils are under the opposition. We actually need to reclaim these towns back so that we will be able to bring back sanity in our towns.
Opposition is an articulation of the key factors that lead failure to happen. ZANU PF needs to explore the current national landscape around failure and improvements and tries to chart a course for how Government, and sector led, improvement and intervention might be enhanced – in particular, by more attention being paid to the strength of governance at a local level.
ZANU PF promises to so better at identifying and arresting the risks of failure reducing the risk of intervention further down the line and feeding into the existing party led improvement
framework.
We recognise that there are plenty of people out there with their own views around local failure and improvement. This is because of the unguarded social media which parrots the failures of the MDC led failures and heap them on the feet of ZANU PF.
The party is keen to hear people’s views – in towns as we plan to refine and develop our thoughts on strengthened local governance, by speaking to a range of people involved in intervention at a local level, to really dig in to what failure looks and feels like, and by so doing help others to recognise it and draw themselves back from the edge – particularly where the risks are imminent.
The electorate must not be fooled the problems in our towns where we have been put fifty years back is the work of the opposition. They want to rescue our city statuses and blame their inefficiency on ZANU PF.
The MDC has been in council dominance since 2002. We have suffered enough. There needs to be a “thorough rethink” about how to approach failure in local government, the blame lies squarely on the opposition.

Methods of addressing failure in local government are “no longer fit for purpose”
There are four main types of failures which include a failure of culture, a failure of service, a failure of function and a failure of duty. The opposition led councils experiencing these types of failure often become less outward looking, more introspective and more defensive. The government’s recent experience of working with local authorities shows that it is time for a thorough rethink about council failures.
“Failure in councils is not something that is going to go away – in fact, a range of looming pressures mean that the problem is likely to become more prevalent in the years ahead unless the opposition is kicked out of the towns. Those in towns need to prepare for increasing instances of failure in the years ahead unless they remove MDC and CCC councillors.
ZANU PF is clear that improved scrutiny processes at the local level will be crucial in this effort.”

“The circumstances leading to failure – in councils as well as in the public sector more generally poorly understood.
“The impact of corporate collapse is always most acute for people whose lives depend upon vital local services, so it is crucial that we gain a more informed understanding of what causes failure, the better to detect the warning signs and bolster local intervention and improvement measures at the earliest opportunity.
There is no improvement without your input. You need to vote ZANU PF in the council elections. You can not have a country without council.

A local councillor will have numerous roles and responsibilities. It is a wide ranging and onerous position but can be very rewarding and some councillors seek re-election, some of them serving for 20 years or more but you must ask yourself one question what has been achieved by the opposition led councils in the past twenty years.

They had a duty to represent the views of the community and their needs. This is not restricted to your own ward as you must be objective and take into consideration the needs and well-being of all residents and the community as a whole.
Councillors also spend a great deal of time with their constituents through holding drop-in surgeries and corresponding and engaging with their constituents on a wide range of matters. When last did you see a councillor in towns calling you for a meeting. The opposition councillors have taken you for a ride far too long. This is time to stand up and be counted. Chose a new councillor. If a Councillor is also a member of a political party, they will be expected to attend political group meetings especially before council meetings, and also be required to attend party training, campaigns and events. So which party was your councillor reporting to.
It f a Councillor is also a member of a political party, they will be expected to attend political group meetings especially before council meetings, and also be required to attend party training, campaigns and events. process.
Each council has their governance arrangements detailed in its Constitutional documents, which will be outlined as part of induction.

The primary role of a councillor is to represent the ward and the citizens who live in it. Members of political parties may find that their party offers guidance on doing this. Councillors have a central part to play in making decisions that impact on their ward and across the whole council. They will be involved in decision-making through: so for the past 20 years what decisions were made by your councillors on your behalf.
You can not vote for the failed councillors over and over again. There will be no change. Vote for ZANU PF give the councils back to the party of excellency.

Prison Officer Murdered, Killers Walk Free

By- A family of a murdered prison officer from Insiza District in Matabeleland South are still looking for answers as they claim that those involved in the crime are known but roaming the streets scot-free.

Nhlanhla Siziba (40) died two weeks ago after unknown people assaulted his brother until he fell unconscious, before turning on him.

He was found dead on the highway after he was knocked down by a car.
His brother Mr Charles Siziba was having a drink with his sibling and after the attack is believed to have been carried home. This is where he heard of the news of Nhlanhla’s death from a family friend Ms Sithembile Ndlovu who was returning from Bulawayo. Nhlanhla, a prison officer at Khami Prison, was buried a week ago in the Gadade area.
Mr Siziba, who has a deep cut at the back of his right ear said the family was to meet with the driver of the car that reportedly knocked down and killed his brother.
We have been in contact with the person who knocked down Nhlanhla and as a family we are supposed to meet him. From this we shall establish what happened from his point of view. He shall tell us what he saw. So, I’m waiting for our parents who are travelling from Gwatemba to meet up with the man tomorrow (today),” said Mr Siziba.
He said he has been hearing reports that the men who attacked him and his brother are walking around the village.
“What surprises me is that people who I’m speaking to are telling me that those who attacked us are walking around the village. I’m not sure what is happening and my brother should not die in vain. It’s suspicious that his trousers were found metres away from the body. This to me shows that they were trying to rob us,” said Mr Siziba.
He said he has been told to travel to Shangani Police station to be updated about the death of his brother.
National Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said they were investigating the case.
“The alleged assault occurred whilst people were drinking beer. They later on had a scuffle and the prison officer tried to run across the road, then was struck by this vehicle and he died. We are conducting investigations in two parts, the assault and the road traffic accident,” said Asst Comm Nyathi. Chronicle

Government “Fires” Unvaccinated Workers

By- The government has announced that all unvaccinated civil servants without any underlying medical conditions have been barred from work without salary.

The state media reports that those with underlying conditions should produce medical certificates to justify their positions.

While some ministries were working with skeleton staff, the rest of the vaccinated Government workers working from home have been ordered to return to work with immediate effect and must adhere to the current lockdown normal working hours.
Public Service Commission Permanent Secretary Ambassador Jonathan Wutawunashe announced the latest move in a circular addressed to all ministries dated February 11, 2022, referenced measures for Covid-19 containment within the public service.

“In view of the announcement by the Acting President General (Rtd) Dr C.G.D.N Chiwenga on January 2022, regarding measures for Covid-19 containment in the country, heads of ministries are directed to adhere to the underlisted measures with immediate effect, all vaccinated members to return to work with immediate effect.
“Face to face interviews now permitted in strict adherence to Covid-19 health measures, office hours shall remain the same and in line with Section 3 (a) (i) of Statutory Instrument 234 of 2021, members not vaccinated should be barred from the workplace and shall not be paid while they are barred,” reads the circular.
According to the circular, any member that is not fully vaccinated without a reasonable excuse shall be subject to disciplinary proceedings while those with medical conditions that require exemption from vaccination should provide a medical certificate for a medical practitioner who certifies that the member’s condition can be worsened by the vaccine.

It further directed that all other health protocols such as wearing of face masks, social distancing and sanitisation should be adhered to.
According to the circular, Ambassador Wutawunashe urged all ministries to cooperate as the employer remains alert in combating this pandemic, which it said will be overcome through adherence to conduct and protocols prescribed by Zimbabwe Health officials and the World Health Organisation.

Can ZEC Be Trusted ?

Business Rejects Zim-Dollar

By- The business community told the Reserve Bank governor John Mangudya that they did not want the Zimbabwe dollar as it was not a sustainable currency.

This happened at a review of the 2022 monetary policy statement hosted by the Zimbabwe Economic Society two days after the MPS was released.
The Zimbabwe dollar was reintroduced in 2019 after a decade of absence following its collapse in 2008 when Zimbabwe recorded record hyperinflation of 231 million per cent as per official statistics.
Since its reintroduction, the local unit has been losing value against other currencies. The official forex rate stands at US$1:$118,87 while the parallel comparative is US$1:$240.
The exchange rate was US$1:6,36 and US$1:10 on the official and parallel markets, respectively, on June 26, 2019, the day the local currency was reintroduced.
Even workers are rejecting the local currency citing its loss of value against other currencies. They are demanding the restoration of their 2018 salaries that were United States Dollar-denominated.
Meanwhile, authorities have indicated that they will not be redollarising again as that was not “good for the economy.”
