President Chamisa Tears Into Emmerson Mnangagwa

By A Correspondent

Opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa has strongly criticized Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube’s touted economic revival measures, describing them as mere cosmetic changes.

Chamisa asserts that Zimbabwe’s currency crisis stems from a lack of confidence, which cannot be resolved by implementing currency boards or structured frameworks alone.

Previous attempts, such as introducing bond notes and gold coins, failed to address the underlying issues.

Chamisa highlights the importance of transparency and public trust, which he believes are undermined by the opaque nature of the proposed measures.

He argues that successful implementation of currency boards elsewhere relied on accountability and adherence to legal frameworks, qualities he finds lacking in Zimbabwe’s governance.

While acknowledging the success of currency boards in other countries, Chamisa emphasizes that Zimbabwe’s unique challenges, including a confidence deficit and external shocks, weaken the effectiveness of such measures.

He criticizes the government’s reliance on ineffective fiscal and monetary policies, calling for genuine political and economic reforms prioritizing accountability and transparency.

Botswana Opposition Angered By Electoral Commission Visit To Zimbabwe

A Botswana opposition party has accused the Botswana Electoral Independent Commission (IEC) of visiting Zimbabwe to “learn tricks on rigging elections”.

IEC faced allegations of rigging in the 2019 elections and has been accused of conducting secretive registration processes for the upcoming 2024 elections.

These allegations have eroded public trust in that country’s electoral process and raised doubts about the IEC’s commitment to transparency and fairness.

Botswana National Front Secretary General, Ketlhalefile Motshegwa said the visit to Zimbabwe by IEC was an endorsement of Zimbabwe’s disputed electoral system.

Motshegwa said Zimbabwe’s elections have been marred by irregularities in the past, and IEC should not be seen to be associating itself with such a system.

“Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has become known as a disastrous and atrocious electoral institution run mafia style, aided by those in government,” Motshegwa said in a statement.

“This comes at a time when President Mokgweetsi Masisi and his Zimbabwean brother, as they call each other, Emmerson Mnangagwa are enjoying cosy personal relations as bosom buddies to push joint personal businesses using offices of President to set up electoral crime syndicates.”

He added: “It was, therefore, not surprising when just last week the two Presidents failed to explain to journalists what kind of notes they are exchanging in an effort to enhance democracy in Botswana and Zimbabwe through electoral reforms to deliver credible, free and fair elections.”

In a statement dated February 13, the IEC said it visited Zec to exchange notes on best practices.

“The Zec’s accreditation machine has been hailed as the best in various reports in terms of expeditious issuance of the accreditation cards,” the IEC said.

“Therefore, the IEC’s idea is to see what Zec has and compare with what other countries in the region have, with a view to see what can work for us in Botswana, as the commission prepares for the 2024 general elections.”

Botswana’s electoral body denied the accusations of election rigging, calling them “inaccurate and untruthful”.

“Consequently, the commission would like to inform its members of the public that these accusations are inaccurate and untruthful.

“In the commission’s assessment, the accusations are merely based on unfounded suspicion, belief and fear unnecessarily held by some of the Commission’s stakeholder who peddle them,” it said.

Mudenda Declares Mt Pleasant, Harare East Vacancies

By A Correspondent| The Speaker of Parliament, Advocate Jacob Mudenda, announced in the National Assembly that vacancies exist in the membership of Parliament in respect of Mount Pleasant and Harare East constituencies, following the resignations of Fadzayi Mahere on 29 January 2024 and Allan Markham on 31 January 2024.

Mahere and Markham resigned in solidarity with Nelson Chamisa who abruptly quit on 25 January 2024 and ran away from the leadership of his CCC party, which was formed after the 23/24 August 2023 harmonised general election based on a two-page constitution which named Chamisa as the sole constitutional office-bearer.

Below is the announcement made by the Speaker, as captured in yesterday’s Hansard:

‘THE HON. SPEAKER: On the 29th and 31st of January 2024, Parliament received letters from Ms. Fadzayi Mahere and Mr. Allan Markham respectively, advising of their resignation from Parliament with immediate effect, in accordance with Section 129 (1) (b) of the Constitution.

Section 129 (1) (b) states as follows: “… a seat of a Member of Parliament becomes vacant upon the Member resigning his or her seat by written notice to the President of the Senate or to the Speaker, as the case may be…”. Ms. Mahere was a Member of Parliament for Mount Pleasant Constituency and Mr. Markham was a Member of Parliament for Harare East Constituency. Consequently, vacancies exist in the membership of Parliament, in respect of the two constituencies, and in terms of Section 39 (1) of the Electoral Act [Chapter 2:13], His Excellency the President and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, shall duly be notified in writing of these vacancies.’

Regarding when the by-elections in the two constituencies might be held, section 158(3) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe provides that:

Polling in by-elections to Parliament and local authorities must take place within ninety days after the vacancies occurred unless the vacancies occur within nine months before a general election is due to be held, in which event the vacancies may remain unfilled until the general election.

Accordingly, ZEC is expected to notify @edmnangagwa for the by-elections in Mount Pleasant and Harare East to be held within the prescribed period.

Mthuli Ncube Grilled Over Late Payment Of Farmers

Finance minister Mthuli Ncube was on Wednesday grilled in Parliament over late payment of farmers for deliveries to the Grain Marketing Board (GMB).

Legislators from Zanu-PF and the opposition said they had received distress calls from farmers who were worried that the delay would erode their outstanding dues given the inflationary environment.

This is despite the government’s perennial assurance that GMB would pay farmers within 72 hours of grain delivery.

Ncube said Treasury had plans to cover late payment for grain deliveries and acknowledged that inflation was eroding their dues.

“The RTGS component is in reference to the time when they supplied their products to GMB. With the inflation we are experiencing, it has affected the value of the RTGS component,” Ncube told parliamentarians.

“Coming to the payment, we are paying in Zimbabwe dollar in one portion and another portion in US dollars.”

Farmers have been complaining that late payment affected their farming business as well as discouraged them from delivering grain to GMB.

Ncube acknowledged the inconveniences that farmers face over late payment.

“We have been trying very hard to pay as quickly as we can before the Zimdollar component loses value. That is our strategy,” Ncube pledged.

“We have not been paying interest or compensation at all, but we endeavour to pay as quickly as possible before the situation gets worse.”

He added: “We will be making an announcement in this regard where(by) we believe it will be a last blow to increases in prices and generally inflation.”

Ncube said they now had a new policy to ensure that all arrears are cleared before the next cycle.

“That is exactly what we are going to do going forward to clear all arrears for the next season so that we can encourage the farmer to go back to the land, otherwise they will get discouraged and then see our agriculture going down as a result,” he said.

“Going forward, we will make sure that all these arrears are cleared before the next season resumes.”

Ncube also told legislators that they are making progress in introducing the Zimbabwe Mercantile Exchange (ZMX), a platform to facilitate the buying and selling of a wide range of agricultural products.

“The process of introducing the ZMX has taken quite a while, but we are pleased that we made very good progress. It is beginning to work,” he said before explaining how the ZMX would work.

“What we do at the beginning of each season is something very simple. We always announce a planning price so that the farmer can plan and see whether the price that the government is signalling is the right one and they want to take the risk and go on to the land and farm,” he said.

“We have been approached by the private sector players working with ZMX to also market commodities such as chrome for example, in addition to maize, wheat, sorghum and other commodities.

“We will see the commodity exchange begin to broaden its activities across a variety of commodities, both agricultural and mineral.”

JSC Forced To Act On Insensitive Travesty Of Justice After Rights Lawyers’ Protest

THE Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has sprung into action by assuring an aggrieved victim of assault that it has adequate sign language interpreters, who can assist him during the trial of an aggressor, after it had stalled for close to one year.

The trial of Tendayi Nyambuya, the Headmaster at Kachimana Primary School in Mudzi in Mashonaland East province, on allegations of assaulting Kudzanayi Karota, who lives with a disability, had been halted since March, after the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) withdrew charges before plea, preferred against the school head, who had been scheduled to stand trial answering to charges of assault as defined in section 89 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

When he appeared in court in 2023, Nyambuya was accused of assaulting Karota, who was one of the people who were in attendance at a School Development Committee meeting held at Kachimani Primary School, where the school head had an altercation with a fellow teacher during the meeting in the presence of parents and guardians.

Karota was reportedly shoved by Nyambuya and fell on the ground resulting in him sustaining an injury on his hand.

Karota then engaged Kelvin Kabaya and Tinashe Chinopfukutwa of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, who on 24 January 2024, wrote a complaint letter to Magistrate Sekai Chiwundura, who is the Provincial Head for Mashonaland East province, under which Mutoko Magistrates Court falls, protesting against gross travesty of justice and complaining about the withdrawal of the charges before plea, by the NPA, whose prosecutors argued that it was meant to enable the Magistrate to secure an interpreter to assist Karota, the complainant in the matter, who suffers from a speech impairment.

Kabaya and Chinopfukutwa charged that since the withdrawal of the charges and the stoppage of the assault trial in March 2023, the matter had not been re-enrolled and an interpreter had not been appointed for purposes of commencement of the trial of Nyambuya.

The human rights lawyers protested that the inordinate delay in the commencement of the trial of Nyambuya violated Karota’s right to equal protection and benefit of the law and the right to access to the courts as provided for in section 56 and 69 of the Constitution.

The human rights lawyers asked the Resident Magistrate to take immediate steps to appoint a requisite interpreter to facilitate the commencement of Nyambuya’s trial.

Kabaya and Chinopfukutwa reminded the Resident Magistrate to bear in mind the individualised needs of Karota so as to ensure that she will be able to understand and follow court proceedings due to the unique nature of her disability.

The lawyers asked the Regional Magistrate to consider invoking the provisions of section 319A-H of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act, which entails appointing an intermediary or support person for Karota, for purposes of trial and to also consider an expert assessment in order to ascertain the nature and extent of her impairment, the nature and extent of her communication skills, and how to maximise effective communication with the court.

In response to the letter of complaint, Magistrate Chiwundura assured Karota’s lawyers that she had since advised the NPA that the JSC has some sign language interpreters in its employ, who are ready to offer their services during Nyambuya’s trial.

Magistrate Chiwundura made a guarantee that whenever the NPA is ready to set down Nyambuya’s matter for trial, the JSC will facilitate the availability of sign language interpreters to assist with the provision of their essential interpretation services.

Presidium Meets To Discuss the Demolitions They Ordered On Their Own

PRESIDIUM CONVENES TO ADDRESS DEMOLITIONS AMIDST SELF-ORDERED CRACKDOWN ON ILLEGAL SETTLEMENTS

The nation’s highest leadership is poised to convene early next week to confront the repercussions of demolitions they themselves ordered on national television, aimed at curbing the surge of illegal settlements on State and council lands.

**Inter-Ministerial Committee Report:**
In response to directives from Acting President Kembo Mohadi and Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, the inter-ministerial committee, led by Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development, Dr Anxious Masuka, will present a comprehensive report to the Presidium. The report will assess the efficacy of the demolition campaign undertaken as part of ‘Operation No to Land Barons’, which unfolded between January 10 and February 9.

Dr Masuka underscored the importance of upholding the law against land barons, with numerous apprehensions made during the crackdown. He stressed the need for ongoing public education regarding the illegality of settling on State land without proper authorization.

**Government’s Stand:**
Minister Masuka reiterated the government’s unequivocal stance that State land is not for sale and urged adherence to established procedures for land acquisition. Expressing concern over the illicit sale of land by village heads, he emphasized its detrimental impact on efforts to maintain order in resettlement areas.

Meanwhile, Minister of Local Government, Winston Chitando, condemned the unlawful occupation of greenways and unauthorized parceling of land, reiterating the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law.

**Enforcement and Food Security:**
The government’s crackdown on illegal settlements has resulted in the arrest of over 3,700 land barons, with ongoing investigations into illegal settlers. Concurrently, efforts are underway to bolster food security by increasing the Grain Marketing Board’s strategic reserves to 1.5 million tonnes, in line with Cabinet directives.

However, challenges persist in achieving food security objectives, as the Grain Marketing Board grapples with reduced purchasing capacity due to liberalized marketing arrangements for grain.

**Future Outlook:**
As the Presidium prepares to deliberate on the demolitions and settlement issues, stakeholders await further guidance on the government’s strategy to address the multifaceted challenges of land management and food security.

The impending meeting underscores the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability, as it confronts the ramifications of its own directives in the public eye.

Ivy Kombo On Trial

Lawyers for Gospel Musician Ivy Kombo and Husband Accuse Prosecutor of Unethical Conduct

In a developing legal saga, the legal representatives of renowned gospel musician Ivy Kombo and her husband, Admire Kasi, have lodged a formal complaint against the handling of their case by the prosecution. The couple, embroiled in allegations of unlawfully acquiring conversion certificates to practice law in Zimbabwe without the requisite examinations, find themselves at the center of a contentious legal battle.

The controversy escalated following actions by the trial prosecutor, Anesu Chirenje, who is accused of attempting to introduce previously rejected evidence into the court record. This move has sparked outrage from the defense team, who have since expressed their grievances to the National Prosecuting Authority, labeling the prosecutor’s actions as an attempt to “smuggle evidence” into the proceedings.

Admire Rubaya, leading the defense for Kombo and Kasi, has penned a scathing letter to the authority, condemning the prosecutor’s tactics. Rubaya’s letter highlights a significant procedural misstep: the introduction of an email extract as evidence, which had not been disclosed to the defense prior to the trial. This, according to Rubaya, constitutes not only a breach of ethical standards but also a prejudicial act against his clients.

The defense’s letter criticizes Chirenje’s oversight in failing to include the crucial email extract with the initial affidavit, which contained only a schedule. Rubaya argues that this lapse in diligence demonstrates a concerning negligence on the part of the State, accusing the prosecution of employing “unfair, unlawful, abusive, and unprocedural” tactics.

Rubaya’s stern rebuke of the prosecution’s attempt to retroactively introduce evidence emphasizes the defense’s stance on the sanctity of procedural fairness and ethical conduct within the legal system. He asserts that the prosecution’s actions are not only detrimental to the integrity of the trial but also unjustly disadvantageous to Kombo and Kasi as they prepare their defense.

This legal confrontation sheds light on the intricate dynamics of justice and the paramount importance of adherence to procedural norms and ethical standards in Zimbabwe’s legal system. As the case unfolds, the spotlight remains on the actions of both the prosecution and the defense, underscoring the critical balance between legal strategy and ethical responsibility.- State Media

Julius Malema Shoots for Re-Election as EFF President

In a significant political move, Julius Malema, the president of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has announced his intention to run for re-election at the party’s forthcoming national conference later this year. Since its inception 11 years ago, Malema has been at the helm of the EFF, steering the party through its various political endeavors.

The announcement came during a media briefing following the EFF’s manifesto launch at the Winnie Madikizela Mandela House, the party’s headquarters in Johannesburg. Malema expressed his readiness to accept the nomination for another term, emphasizing the growth and achievements of the party under his leadership. “I am going to accept the nomination. What else can I do? Under this leadership, we have managed to bring the party where we are now,” Malema stated, showcasing his commitment to continue his work with the EFF.

The upcoming national conference will not only be a platform for Malema’s potential re-election but will also see the election of new leadership positions within the party. This pivotal event in the party’s calendar underscores the dynamic nature of political leadership and the importance of continuity in achieving the party’s goals.

Malema also addressed criticisms regarding the turnout at the manifesto launch, countering claims of an underfilled stadium by highlighting the event’s success in attracting a substantial number of young attendees from KwaZulu-Natal. He took pride in the youthful energy of the crowd, noting the scarcity of older attendees as a sign of the party’s appeal to younger demographics. “I struggled to find old people at the stadium,” he remarked, indicating a strong youth presence which aligns with the EFF’s forward-looking vision.

As the EFF gears up for its national conference, the focus on leadership and future strategies becomes increasingly significant. Malema’s bid for re-election signifies a desire for stability and continued progress within the party, setting the stage for a critical assessment of its direction and policies in the years to come.

Charamba vs Jah Signal : Who Is Right?

By A Correspondent

In a surprising turn of events, Jah Signal’s chart-topping track ‘Sweetie’ has been unceremoniously removed from YouTube.

The move has left fans bewildered and sparked a heated debate over copyright infringement in the music industry. What makes this situation even more intriguing is the revelation that ‘Sweetie’ was allegedly a remix of Pastor Charles Charamba’s gospel song ‘Kana Vanhu Vangu’.

Jah Signal’s rendition of the track had garnered over 6 million views before it was abruptly taken down following a copyright claim by Pastor Charamba and his group, Fishers of Men.

The saga traces its roots back to 2019 when the copyright dispute first emerged. Since then, tensions have simmered between the gospel musician and the dancehall sensation.

The removal of ‘Sweetie’ from YouTube has brought this long-standing feud back into the spotlight, igniting fresh conversations about artistic integrity and intellectual property rights. The crux of the matter lies in the alleged infringement of Pastor Charamba’s original work.

While Jah Signal’s ‘Sweetie’ enjoyed widespread acclaim and commercial success, its origins have come under scrutiny.

The similarities between the two songs have raised questions about artistic inspiration versus outright plagiarism.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the complexities surrounding copyright law in the digital age.

With the ease of access to music and the prevalence of remix culture, artists must tread carefully to avoid stepping on each other’s creative toes. While sampling and reimagining existing works can lead to innovative creations, they also carry the risk of legal repercussions if not properly attributed or licensed.

The removal of ‘Sweetie’ from YouTube underscores the need for greater clarity and transparency in copyright enforcement mechanisms.

It highlights the challenges faced by artists, platforms, and rights holders alike in navigating the intricate web of intellectual property rights.

As the debate rages on, both Jah Signal and Pastor Charamba find themselves at the center of a contentious battle for control over their respective musical legacies.

Whether this dispute will be resolved amicably or escalate into a protracted legal showdown remains to be seen.

In the meantime, fans are left to lament the absence of ‘Sweetie’ from their playlists, while industry stakeholders grapple with the broader implications of this copyright conundrum.

Mai Titi Addresses Rumours Of Relationship With Wasu

By Showbiz Reporter | Socialite and entertainer Felistas Murata, popularly known as Mai Titi, has publicly responded to the swirling rumours of neglecting her male friend, Wasu, who stood by her during her 2023 prison sentence. Reports have been rife with allegations that Wasu has been left in the lurch, abandoned by the very person he supported through thick and thin.

However, Mai Titi, in a heartfelt statement, vehemently denies these accusations, shedding light on the nature of her relationship with Wasu and the extent of her contributions to his life. “Do you know that if I die, Wasu won’t inherit a thing. I built his life as he lived here, for free. I built his life. He has a license which I gave him. So what do you want me to do? Stop spreading rumours about me… Wasu is not my blood. He also needs to marry,” she expressed, emphasizing the significant role she played in enhancing Wasu’s livelihood.

Wasu was still to supply his own comment to Mai Titi’s allegations. WHAT WILL HE SAY?

The allegations of neglect had stirred a considerable buzz on social media, with many fans and critics alike debating the dynamics of Mai Titi’s relationship with Wasu and her responsibilities towards him. Putin’s Challenger Dies In Prison

Moscow-Russia’s prominent opposition leader, Alexei Navalny, has died while imprisoned in an Arctic Circle jail, according to the prison service.

Navalny, known as President Vladimir Putin’s fiercest critic, was serving a politically motivated 19-year jail term. He had been transferred to one of Russia’s harshest penal colonies in late 2023. The prison service in the Yamalo-Nenets district stated that Navalny fell ill after a walk on Friday, losing consciousness shortly afterwards, BBC reported. Despite the immediate response of emergency medical personnel, resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful. Navalny’s cause of death is currently under investigation.

Navalny, aged 47, was seen alive and in good spirits during a court hearing just a day before. His mother, who had visited him in prison on February 12, stated that he was alive, healthy, and happy. She said:

I don’t want to hear any condolences. We saw him in prison on 12th [February], in a meeting. He was alive, healthy and happy.

Navalny’s lawyer and close aide have expressed shock and are awaiting further information.

International reactions poured in soon after the prison service announced Navalny’s death. France highlighted his sacrifice in resisting Russian “oppression,” while Norway held Russian authorities accountable for his demise. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, attending a security conference in Munich, called attention to the weakness and corruption within Putin’s system and placed responsibility on Russia for Navalny’s death.

Navalny’s return to Russia in January 2021, following a poisoning incident with a Novichok nerve agent, marked a bold move against Putin’s regime. He had been barred from running in the 2018 presidential election and was subsequently arrested upon his return from Germany, where he had received medical treatment. Navalny’s opposition to Putin’s rule began as an anti-corruption campaign. His death follows a pattern of prominent Russian figures who have faced fatal consequences while challenging the Russian president’s authority.

Navalny’s imprisonment was met with concerns about his well-being, although he consistently downplayed them. Despite being moved to different penal colonies, including his final location in the Arctic town of Kharp, Navalny maintained that his conditions were better than before. However, he faced repeated punishments, including solitary confinement, during his time in prison. Human rights activists have criticized the detrimental effects of prolonged isolation on his health.

TaffyTheMan’s advice to Jah Signal is heartfelt and straightforward: apologize to Pastor Charamba. He emphasizes the importance of acknowledging the mistake and seeking forgiveness directly from Pastor Charamba, to possibly have the copyright strike withdrawn. This would not only mend fences but also prevent Jah Signal’s YouTube channel from facing potential closure due to accumulated strikes.

TaffyTheMan’s message is a blend of wisdom and practical advice, underlining the power of humility and the effectiveness of direct communication in resolving conflicts. He reassures Jah Signal of Pastor Charamba’s good nature and fairness, encouraging a respectful approach to resolving the issue.

Chiwenga Fires Shots At Gays

By Political Reporter- Zimbabwe’s Vice President, Constantino Chiwenga, has denounced a scholarship offer allegedly to lure young Zimbabwean students into Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) activities.

In a statement, Chiwenga said LGBT activities are unlawful in Zimbabwe and that the scholarship offer is a challenge to Zimbabwe’s sovereignty.

He said Zimbabwe, as a Christian nation, has no room for “such alien, anti-life, un-African and unchristian values”. Reads the statement:

The Government of Zimbabwe strongly and firmly rejects and denounces as unlawful, unchristian, anti-Zimbabwean and unAfrican insidious attempts by foreign interests to entice, lure and recruit, Zimbabwe’s less privileged but able students into Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender activities and malpractices through offers of educational scholarships.

Zimbabwe has legislated against all such deviances, making any offers predicated on the same aberrations both unlawful and criminal, and a grave and gross affront to our national values and ethos as a Christian Nation.

To that end, Government sees such scholarship offers as a direct challenge to its authority, and thus will not hesitate to take appropriate measures to enforce national laws and to protect and defend national values.

Our schools and institutions of higher learning will not entertain applicants, let alone enrol persons associated with such alien, anti-life, un-African and unchristian values which are being promoted and cultivated by, as well as practised in decadent societies with whom we share no moral or cultural affinities.

Zimbabwe is a sovereign, African State with definite laws and values which typify it, cutting it apart from other mores.

Young Zimbabweans who qualify for enrollment into tertiary institutions here and elsewhere, should approach Government Departments tasked to give grants and scholarship support to deserving cases.

They should never be tempted to trade or sell their souls for such abominable and devilish offers.

3.   Leverage Visual Content

When it comes to boosting a brand’s visibility, visual content plays a pivotal role. Visual content enhances engagement on social media and other platforms, as netizens tend to like and share posts with images rather than just text-based posts. Due to this particular reason, many brands invest in designing unique and attractive photos for each post.

By using an online reverse image lookup tool, you can effortlessly locate and utilize the most pertinent and exceptional visual content, such as images. This advanced image search tool allows you to discover royalty-free and relevant photos in a matter of moments, giving you the ability to enhance the visual appeal of your website or social media profiles. However, while selecting an influencer, check their followers’ count, reputation, and authority in your business domain. If you choose a random influencer without analyzing all these things, you may not achieve your selected goals and regret your choice.

6.   Follow Trends

If you want to stay relevant and want people to talk about your brand more, stay up-to-date with the ever-changing trends on social media and capitalize on them. For instance, you can use some dialogue from viral memes in your posts. This trick can help you get more likes and shares. Your brand could become the talk of the town, and your message could also reach a wider audience.

Many companies already use this strategy, and most are successfully achieving their goals. Although this trick takes a minimum of time, it offers exceptional results in return.

So, you should also perfectly incorporate trends into your marketing strategies and increase online visibility.

7.   Apply the Best SEO Strategies

Regarding visibility, nothing is more crucial than ruling the SERPs against the selected keywords. No matter what, if you want more and more people to visit your online store or website, you need to create an outstanding SEO plan and execute it perfectly. It can help you appear on Google’s first page and enhance organic traffic. You can generate thousands of leads daily if you successfully rank your website against high-volume keywords.

Conclusion

The competition in the business world is mounting every day. Many new players are entering this world to gain market share. For that, they utilize different online platforms and make their presence on them. That’s the right approach to generate more leads and conversions. As a business owner, if you want to succeed in this competitive world, you should also improve your visibility on different online platforms. Sooner or later, you will surely succeed in achieving all your desired goals.

Sweetie Controversy: Is It Fair To Slam Charles Charamba For Claiming Copyright Infringement?

President Chamisa Dismisses Mnangagwa’s Cosmetic Economic Reforms

Chamisa rejects superficial solutions and urges Zimbabwe to embrace comprehensive reforms that address the root causes of its economic woes.

See Nelson Chamisa’s statement below…

THE STRUCTURED CURRENCY AND CURRENCY BOARD TOO LITTLE AND TOO LAME!

The currency crisis Zimbabwe faces is basically a crisis of CONFIDENCE.

This confidence deficit crisis can’t be addressed by setting up currency board nor establishing a structured currency framework.

This is why previous efforts which include the introduction of bond note, gold coins and ZIG failed dismally.

Moreover, the lack of transparency surrounding this process only fuels suspicion and undermines public trust.

As for the proposed currency board my assessment of where this has happened successfully shows that the success hinges on accountability, transparency, and adherence to legal instruments—qualities sorely lacking in Zimbabwe’s current governance.

The pervasive state policy inconsistency erodes confidence in the system’s integrity. Without these critical success factors in place, the currency board is doomed to fail.

For avoidance of doubt, I know that currency boards have been used in over 38 countries with notable success because of the “confidence effect” especially in circumstances where credible people of integrity and high standing were appointed into the board.

I am also aware that currency boards work well in circumstances where central bank holds sufficient foreign which will match demand for foreign currency at a pegged exchange rate.

Our situation is so dire because it is characterized by a confidence deficit, exogenous shocks (drought & subdued commodity prices) which have a net effect of depleting our forex will weaken the effectiveness of the so – called structured currency and currency board.

It’s clear that the they are resorting to ineffective fiscal and monetary policies as the economy continues to suffer from currency leakage and a lack of value generation, exacerbated by the refusal to implement a single currency status and abandon the flawed interchange auction system.

Instead of tinkering with ineffective superficial solutions, Zimbabwe needs genuine comprehensive political and economic reforms that prioritize accountability, transparency, and the rule of law.

President Chamisa Humiliates Stomach Politicians

15 February 2024.

The political prostitutes and belly politicians are exposed following the unceremonious departure of the political generator from the contaminated CCC.

Those who blamed the organic president are now shivering and quacking in front of a presidential vacancy in the infiltrated party. Right now, it is quite perturbing that people are fighting Chamisa with more energy than the supposed author of our suffering.

ZANU-PF’s incapacity to create employment for the unemployed graduates has created permanent greed in the nationals.

It has corrupted the minds to the extent of surrendering the democratic project to the enemy daylight. This is pathetic politics! We demand politicians who are ready to serve their constituencies.

Most of these stomach politicians who struck a shady deal with the sunken Harare regime through the imposter are the ones who grabbed 40k bribery from their masters.

It is now imperative to scrutinize ourselves before asserting a political position. Genuine cadres must rise to the accasion embracing the able leadership of President Chamisa.

It is on record that President Advocate Nelson Chamisa rejected the Leader of Opposition nonsense after thumping Mr Mnangagwa in 2018, with a motorcade and some trinkets on the table. He was invited to Polad where cars and other benefits were gotten by Madhuku et al but he did not give in. The people of Zimbabwe know that the only panacea to socio-economic economic transfiguration is ‘mukomana’.

There is nothing to doubt about the ability of Nero, he is a tried and tested cadre in the national democratic revolution. The oppressed masses are being illegally displaced and terrorized for building nice houses.

We need a return to legitimacy, rule of law, and constitutionalism in the motherland. Embracing dangerous freedom is the only answer.

The fight for justice, equality, and freedom should continue unabated. We should not be diverted by those who use state apparatus as spring boards for the primitive accumulation of the national cake.

How can a democrat sell struggle because he craves to be in the August house forever? It boggles the sane mind.

Donating our hard won seats to the desperate regime for three pieces of silver is the greatest betrayal in the history of mankind. They are refusing with our President’s face saying it is their intellectual property.

ZANUPF lite led Biti, Ncube, Mafume, Gomba, etc should now elect their leader will make a mark on the political horizon.

The Zaka Villager
Speaks Again!

But Is Charles Charamba Right in Claiming Copyright Against Jah Signal When the 2 Songs Are Miles Apart?

PUBLIC STATEMENT ON THE WITHDRAWAL OF JAH SIGNAL’S SONGS ON YOUTUBE We have noted the YouTube striking down of Jah Signal’s songs, “Shinga Muroora” and “Tengai Mafuta”. We are alive to the various reactions and also requests by some media houses on our response to the same. We wish to set the record on this matter.

1. Sometime in 2018 Jah Signal released his song, “Shinga Muroora”. The song was a rendition of our own song, “Kana vanhu vangu,” which we released in 2001.

2. We got to know about the song when it was sent through WhatsApp by his manager who was asking for our permission. After listening to the song, we were so concerned about the changing of original lyrics into romantic words. We declined the proposal through text as well. We mentioned that the changing of meaning brought to the song was not good for a song known to be Gospel. We found it blasphemous and mockery. In no time the song was released. There was a very clear infringement of copyright laws.

3. We were naturally not pleased, but chose not to raise issue with this. We accepted the reality and moved on. We did not even wish to get any payment for this. This remains our position to date, we do not want any share of royalties or damages. We also communicated to ZIMURA that we were not interested with sharing monies with the artist. Furthermore, have no desire to sue Jah Signal, he’s our son, just like many other young artists.

5. We had no plans to act after six (6) years. A few months ago, (September 2023), Jah Signal released another song called ‘Tengai Mafuta”. The song is a remix of “Tengai Mafuta” by Mai Charamba. Just like “Shinga Mumma”, it’s about romantic overtones. Though we had been doing the clean-up on our music for the past three years, we had spared “Shinga Muroora “on the basis that it had made too many views. The further infringement on ‘Tengai Mafuta” prompted us to act on both songs and other “infringing songs” which had been spared for a long time.

6. No consent was sought, no consent was granted and for us this was a very clear infringement of copyright laws. For both songs, he did not acknowledge the original composer which is the norm. There’s also a breach of moral rights.

7. We are not more special than anyone in God’s eyes. Any can ask for our song if they want reproduce it just like what Dr Tawanda has done to •Tauya Kuzomutenda”. We do not claim to own any word from the Bible but we have rights to the melodies on which those words sit.it is allowed for all pf us to sing the same verse of the Bible, it is God’s Word.

8. Music is now a technological product that is controlled and monitored by various software that scan the various platforms. Abuses and copyright infringements are flagged and action is sometimes taken even without the awareness of the owner.

9. YouTube has its laws and regulations regarding copyright infringements on its platform and ways in which these are addressed. We also strive to follow them. The same platform offers opportunities to appeal if one feels otherwise.

10. As elders we wish Jah Signal well in his life and in his career. We have no desire to see him fail. We have never declined engagement with him. We are currently making efforts to avoid a third strike even afters we noticed his channel still has the infringed songs. We are keen to communicate or engage him so that we can together protect his channel from being closed.

11. We would urge fellow artists and music managers to always guard against copyright infringement, seek and obtain consent, acknowledge copyrights. This will always avoid complications that may arise or wrong perceptions.

12. Though we have been misunderstood by some people, we are hopeful that no one among our blessed youths will ever be sued for cases like these. We shall also undertake to do some teachings on related subjects. Musicians are also encouraged to attend music workshops so that they can exchange knowledge with others.

13. We have not been cruel to Jah Signal. We have actually been victim to copyright infringement. As mentioned, we are working to avoid another pending strike which may cause his channel to be deleted.

14. We are sincerely sorry to those who don’t understand the copyright law, we are trusting that they will grasp the concepts in the future. Be that as it may we pray for success for Jab Signal and in his career. We love him wholeheartedly. May God bless us all.

Celebrated Music Producer Mono Mukundu Speaks On Jah Signal-Charamba Dispute

By Clive Mono Mukundu| If you are one of my social media followers, you are probably aware that I have more than 10 video essays dedicated to discussing and clarifying matters related to plagiarism and copyright issues.

The most common form of plagiarism is when someone adds their own lyrics to someone else’s melody(tune). A song consists of words(lyrics) and a melody(the tune). The lyrics are protected as a literary work, and the melody is protected as a musical work (the composition). These two are typically protected collectively in a song.

THE BIBLE VERSE ISSUE:
While it is true that Pastor Charamba’s song uses 2 Chronicles 7:14—a biblical passage that is not protected by copyright—But the issue is that the melody(tune) is entirely Pastor Charamba’s original composition.

Now let’s address the elephant in the room: was Pastor Charamba’s song plagiarised? The answer is unquestionably yes.

The video I’ve included below provides a detailed explanation of the plagiarism.
It was part of my speech two years ago at a workshop organized by Mushandirapamwe trust in Highfields Harare.

Chamisa Rips Into Govt Over Currency Board Plans

Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has strongly criticized the government’s proposed introduction of a currency board as an attempt to revive the struggling Zimbabwe dollar, stating that it will ultimately fail.

Earlier this week, Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube announced that the government was contemplating implementing a currency board to stabilize the local currency, which has been experiencing significant depreciation.

Under this plan, the currency board would tie the exchange rate to tangible assets like gold.

Chamisa denounced the currency board proposal as yet another futile effort by the government to restore confidence in the local currency.

“The currency crisis facing Zimbabwe is fundamentally a crisis of confidence. Simply establishing a currency board or implementing a structured currency framework cannot address this confidence deficit crisis. Past endeavors, including the introduction of bond notes, gold coins, and ZIG, have all ended in dismal failure,” remarked Chamisa.

Expressing skepticism towards the asset-backed currency approach, Chamisa highlighted previous unsuccessful attempts, such as the introduction of gold-backed digital coins, which resulted in discounted gold sales and increased resource smuggling out of the country. He also criticized the lack of transparency surrounding the proposed strategy, undermining public trust.

Chamisa questioned the government’s capability to execute the proposed plan successfully.

“In countries where currency boards have succeeded, accountability, transparency, and adherence to legal frameworks have been crucial—qualities sorely absent in Zimbabwe’s governance. The prevailing state policy inconsistency further erodes confidence. Without these essential elements, the currency board is destined to fail,” he asserted.

Chamisa acknowledged the potential effectiveness of currency boards in certain contexts but emphasized the need for credible and trustworthy leadership to implement them. He also stressed the importance of adequate foreign reserves to support the pegged exchange rate.

The currency board represents the latest effort by the government to stabilize the local currency, which continues to depreciate, with most Zimbabweans preferring the US dollar.

Earlier this month, President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced plans to establish a “structured currency” to combat Zimbabwe’s hyperinflation.

Chamisa argued that comprehensive political and economic reforms are necessary to address the country’s deep-rooted challenges, including a confidence deficit, external shocks like drought and fluctuating commodity prices, and currency leakage. He criticized the government’s reliance on ineffective fiscal and monetary policies, advocating instead for genuine reforms prioritizing accountability, transparency, and the rule of law to build a stable and prosperous economy.

Charumbira Still Sidelined From Pan African Parliament (PAP)

By A Correspondent| Deputy President of the Chiefs Council, Chief Fortune Charumbira remains sidelined at the Pan African Parliament despite claims by the regime enablers that he remains in charge.

Charumbira was elected President of the Pan African Parliament following massive lobbying from countries in the Southern part of Africa who felt West Africa was dominating the body.

His election, a major victory for the region was however shortlived as he soon faced serious problems resulting in him being finally sidelined.

According to recent executive decisions made at PAP, the third Vice President Lucia Maria Mendes Goncalves Dos Passos has been seconded to be the acting President of the body while they finalise the election of a new President.

“Pending the finalization of the election, the Third Vice President, Hon. Charumbira was elbowed out of the hot seat amid allegations of favoritism and sidelining other countries in favour of Zimbabwean people.

Harare Women Sentenced for Assault, Public Humiliation

By A Correspondent

Four out of the five women from the Hatcliffe suburb in Harare, accused of assaulting and publicly humiliating another woman suspected of an affair with a colleague’s husband, will receive their sentencing tomorrow.

Zelpa Kanduza (19), Natasha Kanduza, Fortunate Tembo, and Olleyn Vinyungwi pleaded guilty to the assault charges, while Mitchel Kariwo denied the allegations.

They appeared before Magistrate Mr. Gamuchirai Gore and were remanded in custody until tomorrow when the magistrate will deliver the sentence for those who pleaded guilty. Kariwo’s trial is set to begin on February 20.

During proceedings, it was revealed that the four accused are married women. Natasha Kanduza, initially claiming to be 17, apologized for misleading the court after her national identity card revealed she is 20 years old.

In their plea for leniency, the defendants sought forgiveness for their actions against Alice Chaichai.

Mrs. Chaichai, in response, detailed the physical and emotional toll the incident had taken on her health and marriage, urging the accused to clarify the truth to her husband.

Prosecutor Ms. Kenchelskis Ropi presented evidence that on February 1, at around 1 pm in Hatcliffe Extension, the group confronted Mrs. Chaichai at her residence, accusing her of infidelity with Zelpa Kanduza’s husband.

Despite her denials, the group violently assaulted her, dragging her out of her house and stripping her clothes off before leaving her unconscious.

A bystander provided aid and Mrs. Chaichai was later hospitalized and treated for her injuries.

The incident was reported to the police, leading to the arrest and subsequent trial of the accused women.

Mnangagwa Concedes Failure

By A Correspondent

In a significant shift, Zimbabwean President and Zanu PF leader, Emmerson Mnangagwa, has openly admitted to the technological gap facing Zimbabwe and emphasized the importance of leveraging international partnerships for progress.

During a visit to the Dubai Police Headquarters, Mnangagwa marveled at the advanced technology in Dubai, highlighting the stark difference between the capabilities there and those in Zimbabwe.

He underscored the urgent need for collaboration, particularly in the science and technology sector, to bridge this gap.

“After witnessing the remarkable technological advancements here in Dubai, it’s evident that Zimbabwe lags far behind. We must acknowledge our shortcomings and embrace cooperation with countries like the UAE to propel our technology forward,” stated Mnangagwa.

He directed his Science and Technology Minister, Hon. Tatenda Mavetera, to prioritize learning from Dubai’s example and fostering partnerships that would enable Zimbabwe to adopt similar expertise and capabilities.

“Instead of reinventing the wheel, we should focus on adopting proven technologies and practices from elsewhere.

The UAE has shown willingness to assist Zimbabwe in this endeavor, and we must seize this opportunity for mutual benefit,” Mnangagwa emphasized.

The acknowledgment of failure and the call for collaboration mark a significant departure from previous rhetoric, signaling a willingness to address the challenges head-on and pursue avenues for progress.

Mnangagwa’s words reflect a pragmatic approach to advancing Zimbabwe’s technological landscape, recognizing the importance of learning from global leaders in the field.

Lovemore Chinoputsa Quits Politics

February 14, 2024

Wezhira Munya

Today, on February 14, 2024, Mr. Lovemore “Destroyer” Chinoputsa, who previously held positions as a student leader at the University of Zimbabwe pursuing a degree in Social Work, as well as MDC National Youth Secretary General, Zaka Central losing parliamentary candidate under the MDC Alliance, and unsuccessful candidate for the Hunyani parliamentary seat in the 2023 harmonized elections under CCC, has announced his resignation from active politics.

Below is his letter of resignation from CCC and active politics:

I address you on this significant day, the 14th of February 2024, a day marked by the passing of the iconic former Prime Minister of the Republic, Dr. Morgan Richard Tsvangirai. May his soul rest in peace.

Today holds historical significance in our struggle for democracy, a journey intertwined with challenges and aspirations for a better Zimbabwe.

For the past two decades, I have diligently worked alongside fellow comrades in the pursuit of genuine democracy, freedoms, and economic emancipation for our nation.

Originating from the University of Zimbabwe, our vision extended beyond academic freedoms to the collective endeavor of building a better Zimbabwe.

However, within our movement, there emerged significant elite contradictions regarding our direction and approach in combating electoral fraud.

The recent resignation of the CCC President marked the culmination of internal strife, rendering our political outfit ineffective in delivering meaningful change to Zimbabweans.

The unfortunate recalls instigated by certain individuals further weakened our movement, facilitating the donation of parliamentary seats to ZANU PF.

Such treacherous politics, exemplified by individuals like Tshabangu and Phulu, deserve condemnation, as they undermined the integrity of our movement and its representation of the Zimbabwean people.

Internal infighting fueled by personal agendas has created factions within our ranks, perpetuating toxicity and hindering progress.

As a result, I have come to realize that this is not the path I envisioned when I joined the struggle.

My conscience and ideological principles compel me to dissociate from partisan politics and embrace a role as a private citizen.

I acknowledge the need for unity and order in Zimbabwe, underpinned by leadership committed to economic, social, and political stability.

We require a unifying figure capable of transcending political divides and steering our nation towards prosperity.

As I withdraw from active politics, I hope that God will raise a leader capable of fulfilling this crucial role.I express my gratitude to all those who have supported me throughout this journey.

Xenophobic SA Opposition Targets Zim Schools Teaching Shona

By Political reporter- On Monday, the Patriotic Alliance (PA), an opposition political party in South Africa, organised a protest at Esikhisini Primary School in Pretoria, Atteridgeville, due to the inclusion of Shona language teaching.

The Esikhisini Primary School Governing Board chairperson is a Zimbabwean national, and approximately 20% of the school’s enrollment consists of Zimbabweans.

Deputy President Kenny Kunene of the PA voiced the demand for prioritising South Africans and called for the expulsion of Zimbabwean learners.

Kunene stated:
“The school has applied to the Department of Education to introduce Shona language instruction. We spoke with the principal, Mr Nkabinde, who claims he hasn’t applied for Shona instruction, but our information suggests that the SGB chairperson, who is Zimbabwean, is working with the department to introduce Shona.”
“This is a public school. Shona is not part of the curriculum. We understand that the department is considering this proposal. We’re here to express our anger and dissatisfaction with what they’re trying to impose on our communities.”
Kunene expressed concern about South African parents facing difficulties enrolling their children due to the admission of foreign nationals’ children. The PA members pledged to conduct door-to-door visits to identify parents who might have been rejected from the school to facilitate their admission.
The PA also advocated for the replacement of a Zimbabwean official with a South African. This protest is occurring in the context of upcoming general elections in South Africa, where some far-right political parties have targeted foreigners as part of their campaign strategy to attract voters.

Land Ownership: Govts Are There To Protect the People Not To Exploit Them

By Engineer Jacob Kudzayi Mutisi | The govt of Zimbabwe has been grappling with a persistent issue that threatens the stability and welfare of its citizens, the rampant illegal sale of land and subsequent illegal settlements orchestrated by ZANU PF land barons. This alarming trend has created a cycle of injustice and suffering, as the government often responds by demolishing structures once the situation spirals out of control. It is high time for the government to take proactive measures to address this issue, including educating Zimbabweans about property ownership and deeds to prevent future scandals, while also holding those responsible accountable for their actions.

Illegal land sales and settlements have become a pervasive problem across Zimbabwe, with ZANU PF land barons taking advantage of vulnerable citizens. These unscrupulous individuals exploit the lack of awareness and understanding among the population regarding property ownership rights and legal land transactions. They engage in fraudulent activities, selling land to unsuspecting individuals without proper documentation or titles. As a result, innocent Zimbabweans find themselves embroiled in illegal settlements, only to face the devastating consequences of demolitions when the government intervenes.

The government of Zimbabwe bears a significant responsibility in allowing such illegal activities to persist. By failing to implement effective oversight and regulation, the government has inadvertently created an environment where these land barons thrive. The absence of stringent monitoring mechanisms has emboldened them to continue their exploitative practices at the expense of unsuspecting citizens. The government’s reactive approach of demolishing structures once the situation becomes uncontrollable is merely a band-aid solution that fails to address the root cause of the problem.

To prevent future scandals and protect the rights of Zimbabwean citizens, education is paramount. The government must prioritise comprehensive educational programs that raise awareness about property ownership, land rights, and the significance of valid land deeds. By equipping individuals with the knowledge and understanding of their rights and responsibilities as property owners, they can make informed decisions and avoid falling victim to fraudulent land transactions. Public awareness campaigns, community outreach programs, and collaborations with civil society organisations can contribute to this educational endeavour.

Holding those responsible for illegal land sales and settlements accountable is crucial to restoring public trust. The government should conduct thorough investigations into the activities of ZANU PF land barons and ensure that they face appropriate legal consequences. This will send a strong message that such exploitative practices will not be tolerated. Simultaneously, the government should establish stronger oversight mechanisms and regulatory frameworks to prevent future occurrences of illegal land transactions.

The government of Zimbabwe must rise to the occasion and address the pressing issue of illegal land sales and settlements orchestrated by ZANU PF land barons. By implementing comprehensive educational programs, enhancing oversight and regulation, and ensuring accountability for those involved, the government can protect the rights of its citizens and prevent future scandals. The empowerment of Zimbabweans through education on property ownership and deeds is critical to creating a society where property rights are respected, and citizens are safeguarded from unscrupulous individuals. It is time for the government to act decisively and fulfill its duty to its people. It is the duty of the government to protect its citizens.

Long live Zimbabwe. Power to the people

Martial Arts Star Blasts Mnangagwa’s Incompetent Sports Minister

By A Correspondent

Themba Gorimbo, a Zimbabwean UFC star currently based in the United States, has taken aim at Sports Minister Kirsty Coventry, accusing her of nepotism and corruption.

In a recent statement, Gorimbo expressed his concerns about the state of sports in Zimbabwe and pointed fingers at Coventry for what he perceives as mismanagement within her department.Gorimbo, known for his prowess in martial arts, didn’t mince words when he addressed the issue. He highlighted his love for his country and acknowledged positive developments such as infrastructure improvements.

However, he couldn’t overlook what he considers a significant flaw: the deterioration of sports under Coventry’s leadership.”

I stand by my country and love every single development happening in my country.

The roads are beautiful, things are changing but only one thing.

Sport is dying because we have the worst sports minister who let her family run the department and her meetings are run by her husband,” Gorimbo asserted.

The accusations of nepotism and corruption strike at the heart of concerns about fair governance and transparency within Zimbabwe’s sports administration.

Gorimbo’s critique sheds light on broader issues facing the country’s athletic community, where talent and potential could be overshadowed by favoritism and alleged impropriety.

Kirsty Coventry, a former Olympic swimmer and multiple gold medalist, assumed the role of Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation in 2018.

Her appointment initially garnered optimism, given her stellar athletic background and international recognition.

However, Gorimbo’s accusations raise questions about her effectiveness in addressing the challenges facing Zimbabwean sports.

Nepotism, the practice of favoring relatives or close associates, can undermine meritocracy and erode public trust. If true, allegations of family members wielding undue influence within the sports ministry could tarnish Coventry’s reputation and hinder efforts to foster a fair and competitive sporting environment.

Furthermore, accusations of corruption within the ministry can have far-reaching implications, not only for athletes but also for the broader populace.

Mismanagement of funds or resources intended for sports development could deprive aspiring athletes of essential support and infrastructure, impeding their ability to compete on a global stage.

In response to Gorimbo’s criticisms, Minister Coventry has yet to issue a public statement.

However, it is imperative for government officials to address such allegations transparently and take appropriate measures to uphold accountability and integrity within the sports sector.

Themba Gorimbo’s outspoken stance reflects a growing call for accountability and reform within Zimbabwean sports.

As the country seeks to overcome socio-economic challenges and build a brighter future, ensuring fair and equitable opportunities for athletes of all backgrounds must be a priority.

Only through transparent and inclusive governance can Zimbabwe unleash its full sporting potential and inspire the next generation of champions.

Mnangagwa Finally Admits Failure

In a significant shift, Zimbabwean President and Zanu PF leader, Emmerson Mnangagwa, has openly admitted to the technological gap facing Zimbabwe and emphasized the importance of leveraging international partnerships for progress.

Botswana Electoral Commission Under Fire Over Trip Of Shame To Zimbabwe

By A Correspondent| The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) of Botswana has been forced to issue a statement to quash claims that its visit to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) was to ‘learn how to rig an election.’

In its statement, IEC said they visited Zimbabwe to look at ZEC’s accreditation machine for Election observers.

“Relating to the IEC’s visit to the ZEC, t is true that on Monday the 12th February 2024, the Commission dispatched its Manager responsible for voter education and the Chief Public Relations Officer to the Republic of Zimbabwe to specifically look at the ZEC’s accreditation machine for election observers.

“Therefore, the IEC’s idea is to see what the ZEC has and compare with what other countries in the region have, with a view to see what can work for us in Botswana, as the Commission prepares for the 2024 General elections,” said Phatodi Nacane, IEC Public Relations Officer.

There is therefore, no benchmarking trip by the IEC to Zimbabwe aimed at learning how to rig an election as alleged in the statement. The IEC cannot and will not rig elections

A coalition of opposition parties in Botswana (Botswana National Front) had IEC for traveling to Zimbabwe accusing them of being a bird of the same feather with ZEC.

Ketlhalefile Motshegwa, spokesperson for the opposition Botswana National Front, expressed disappointment at the commission’s trip.

“One would have expected the IEC to benchmark in more developed democracies and systems with effective electoral institutions as an indication that they really want to achieve excellence in their mandate,” Motshegwa said.

“The mission of Botswana’s IEC benchmarking in Zimbabwe is simple: Just to learn how to rig an election,” he added.

Sikhala Sentenced to Nine Months In Prison

By Jane Mlambo| Harare magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka has sentenced former Zengeza West legislator Job Sikhala to nine months prison term wholly suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit a similar offense.

Sikhala who was last week convicted of communicating falsehoods was also fined US$500 to be paid by 4 March 2024 failing which he shall spend two months in prison.

Addressing journalists outside the Harare Magistrates, Sikhala’s lawyer Harrison Nkomo said his client had been sentenced as follows;

“As you are aware, we just coming out of court for the sentencing of Job Sikhala for contravening section 31 subsection 1 paragraph 3 of the Criminal Law Codification basically a law criminalizing publication of falsehoods, a law nullified by the Constitutional Court, the highest court of the land in 2014, that not withstanding the magistrate proceeded to pronounce a sentence and Job Sikhala has been sentenced as follows; 9 months imprisonment wholly suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit a similar within the specified period, further to that he has been ordered to pay a fine of US$500 failing which he shall spend an effective 2 months in prison and has been ordered to pay that on the 4th of March 2024.”

Nkomo said they will file an appeal against the judgement which they believe has no foundation as it is based on a section of the law that was struck off the statutes.

“We are going to file our appeal as a registration of our displeasure of the judgement, we disagree with it, it has no foundation, it is not sound, the law nolonger exists and it is wrong for a court to convict someone on law that no longer exists. the effect of a striking of a section by the Constitutional Court means it is dead, how does it resuscitate no ways it cant,” said Nkomo.

Meanwhile, Sikhala still has two outstanding cases which were both concluded and waiting rulings.

Opposition Man Dumps CCC, Quits Politics

By Political Reporter- Lovemore Chinoputsa, a long-serving Opposition member, has announced his resignation from the CCC and politics.

In a six-page letter posted on his Facebook page Wednesday, Chinoputsa said he was frustrated by the lack of vision in the opposition.

Below is his letter:

I come to you on this day the 14th Of February 2024, a significant day in the history of our struggle which brought a lot of changes to the political landscape of the Country.
It is a dark day in which all democracy loving citizens of this Country were dealt a major blow following the passing on of the Iconic Former Prime Minister Of The Republic Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai. May His Soul Rest In Peace.

I Chose to speak on this day as it carries a significant in the history of opposition and where we are now as the Alternative.
I am convinced beyond doubt that we have digressed from the aspirations of President Tsvangirai who sought to create a democratic vehicle to fight the excesses of the ruling ZANU PF .
It is in that respect that I will attempt to bring out to the fore some of the biggest challenges that we have faced as a country and as a political outfit that sought to replace a corrupt ZANU PF government.
It is in the public domain that I have for the past two decades worked tirelessly together with many Comrades in the pursuit of genuine democracy , freedoms and economic emancipation of the people of this great Country .
This is a journey that has its roots at the University Of Zimbabwe where we understood the task at hand that although we were fighting for academic freedoms we also carried an extra responsibility as citizens to pursue and collaborate with like-minded individuals in the fight for better Zimbabwe.
There have been serious elite contradictions within the movement in terms of which direction to take going forward and what could be the best approach to persecuting a protracted mass driven onslaught against the electoral fraud that continues to be witnessed in every electoral cycle.
The resignation of the President of the CCC was the final nail into the coffin of the short lived political outfit which despite so many false narratives was actually born out of a protracted struggle with fellow compatriots in the then MDC Alliance.
The outfit which was buried and taken to the dustbins of history with the resignation of the face of that movement was brought about by a significant life changing decision of the then MDC Alliance National Council Meeting that mandated the President to sit down with a smaller team to configure the party and come up with a vehicle that was not tainted and that could be used for the purposes of the by elections that were upcoming.
The rest is history and will not belabour you with that historical narrative as it does not form the gist of my address to you fellow Zimbabweans, suffice to say that what followed as the pronouncements leading to the formation of the outfit was a total departure from the agreed position, as a completely new outfit was formed which sought to depart from how the Party had been run in the past.
The recalls as instigated by one Tshabangu led to the total decimation of the CCC as a competent vehicle to deliver meaningful change to the people of Zimbabwe.
There were willy nilly recalls of legitimately elected Members of Parliament which as we are all aware led to the donation of several seats to ZANU PF by a cabal that was never supposed to be making decisions on behalf of the party.
The treacherous politics as represented by Tshabangu, Phulu and a few others who have openly and indirectly supported this decimation deserves the highest condemnation by any well-meaning individual in this country.
I unequivocally state that I have never understood the paternity of Tshabangu shenanigans and I in unequivocal terms call out his treacherous politics for what it is. It is a diversionary tactic that was put in place to weaken the Movement and derive many communities of legitimate representation and it casts a serious doubt on the impartiality of our judiciary system.
It is in my view a collaboration with ZANU PF to decimate and destroy the movement as well as diverting people from the failure by ZANU PF to deliver on the electoral promises they made.
The events in the Movement has not been short of drama in the past few months. The infighting that rocked the party had created fissures and alignments that were based on whether you were willing to support the leader against all odds or you were supposed to take a stance of fighting the leader by any means necessary even if it meant collaborating with ZANU PF.
This toxicity and hatred amongst colleagues left many of us who cannot be cajoled into perennial in-house fighting with no home. The jostling that had become the order of the day has inevitably brought two main factions where you either swallow hook line and sinker the machinations of the ever scheming boys and girls who I call the See No evil and Hear No Evil Brigade and remain committed to centralising decision making in one individual or you had to be on the other side with a grouping of people who will do anything to ensure that they take down the Leader by any means necessary even if it means colluding with the evil ZANU PF Regime.
However, with the resignation of the leader it seems more factions have been created and I can number them to four or five. The sum of it all is that the toxicity coming from all the factions is sickening and energy draining.
These champions of mudslinging continue to make it difficult for individuals who cherish shared responsibilities, values justice fairness, equity and meaningful solidarity with nowhere to belong to. In all this, we have people amongst fellow Comrades who have deliberately and conveniently began to use the machinations of ZEC and the Shenanigans of Tshabangu as an excuse to entrench dictatorship, muzzling of people’s views and opinions all in the name of defending the Leader.
It is a given fact that there many Conflict-preneurs who are amongst the opposition contingent who have seized every opportunity to malign and alienate others from the project. They remain wolves in sheep clothing who have taken it upon themselves to gate keep and frustrate many people out of the party.
These pseudo revolutionaries feed into the fears of the Leader to constantly whisper into his ears that there are people who want to wrestle leadership from him. Their end game cannot be understood, their motives cannot be understood, their handlers remain a mystery and I suspect that they are strategically positioned around the leader to ensure that he is in constant fear on a non-existent threat.
I wonder how such behaviour can ever win Zimbabwe for change when numbers are constantly and consistently being reduced every day. In my view, there are many people now who cannot keep up with this madness and who would rather watch from the terraces as the dog eat dog situation in the opposition continues unabated. There are many in the trenches who do not subscribe to this mudslinging .
They would rather see order prevailing .Many like me seek to see the movement back on its feet , focused on the task at hand .They want an Institution , they want systems, they want things to work , they want the collective voice to return, they wish to see leaders working together, they want to see their leaders being able to co-exist , they don’t expect their leaders to like each other but just to be able to work together.
They want to see a platform where issues can be tabled, deliberated freely and have the emerging superior views carrying the day. There are many well-meaning individuals in the opposition that I know who would want to see this happening.
They wait for the day when sanity will be restored. They are waiting for the day where everyone will accept that the Strategic ambiguity era is over, that the strategic ambiguity as a political strategy had more weaknesses than benefits. Leadership entails owning up and accepting that things did not go the way we expected. Confronting such difficult questions of the day will save the opposition and ultimately give the people of Zimbabwe a fighting chance against the Zanu pf Regime.
The efforts of President Morgan Tsvangirai has surely gone to waste with the way the opposition is being run in this country.
May His Soul Continue To rest In Peace.Let me address some of the issues that I feel has brought us to where we are. The first thing is to apologise to the people of Zimbabwe for the pretence by many of us that things were working smoothly in their beloved party.
I and many of our leaders have willingly been contributing to the mess in the opposition by keeping quiet where we ought to have spoken out, for accepting to be overpowered by a few excitable characters, for elevating a mortal man to the levels of a semi-god who cannot be questioned, who cannot be held accountable, who should think and do everything alone and who should always have his views taken as the superior views of the day.
We all did this in the name of wanting to be politically correct. I am part of the many that have aided in the creation of a dictatorship. I apologise and wish to state that I have reached my Damascene moment and will never be found perpetuating such anti –revolutionary tendencies.
I make this apology fully aware that there are many Zimbabweans who are blinded by the desire to want to see the back of ZANU PF and that they will unashamedly support and perpetuate this kind of leadership for expediency.
I am also aware of the fact that just because I have met my Damascene moment, it does not automatically follow that everyone should see things in the same manner that I see them now. I raise these issues for posterity.
I know for a fact that at this point it may not be clear to everyone but I want the people of Zimbabwe to refer back to this statement 5 years or 10 years from now and reflect on the issues that I raise today. I fully make this statement fully aware that challenging and exposing the excesses of a popular brand will come with its fair share of criticism, name calling and labelling.
I do not seek to find favours from anyone. I am doing this for POSTERITY.At a personal level I have come to the realisation that this is not what I signed up for when I willingly joined the struggle as a green horn teenager and gave myself to the service of the Motherland, foregoing all the luxuries of enjoying my young adult life, opportunities in both my academic and professional space that were lost as I pursued this struggle.
My Conscience, my Students Union Background and my Ideological inclination does not in any way allow me to continue to be part and parcel of a an excitable army that is creating and perpetuating a new type of Dictatorship, a POPULAR Dictatorship that conveniently hides behind the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to destroy people’s lives , batter people’s confidence , belittle people and causing emotional and psychological harm to people. I simply refuse.
A One-man band that has been given the leeway to transform itself into a fully-fledged dictatorship that does not value consensus building, conflict resolution and collective decision making cannot be tolerated in the 21st Century.
Conscious of the fact that our Zimbabwean politics is binary in nature , having weighed the advantages and disadvantages of just wanting to be seen to be politically correct by siding and aligning with the popular character of the day , I have decided to with immediate effect disassociate with partisan politics , by quitting politics and move away from the toxic politics of the day. I retreat into being a private citizen who will have nothing to do with the politics of the day. I will take this time to reconnect with my family and spent more time together as i compensate for the time lost over the years, I will also use this opportunity to pursue other passions.
As I round up I believe that Zimbabwe requires someone who can bring order and unity that will catapult us to economic, social and political stability. Zimbabwe is in dire need of a unifier, one who should carry the responsibility of uniting people across the political divide and propel this country to meaningful economic development in our lifetime.
Standing high on the shoulders of the departed fore fathers of this land who fought fearlessly to establish a unitary, liberated state, the next leader of Zimbabwe should be able to finish off the outstanding business of the liberation struggle which includes economic freedom and full democratisation of the state where the three levers of the state can be given the space to exercise their functions eely.
We need a leader who can navigate the complex terrain of power transfer , one who can manage state craft , one who can assure the military contingent, who can assure the business community, war veterans , women , elderly ,who can assure the “selectorates” and the political elites across the political divide , who can give confidence to the Judiciary that they are an important and equal arm of the state who should be allowed to freely undertake their work, who can assure the young boys and girls in this country that Zimbabwe can work again .
In short we need a broad based meeting of minds that transcends imaginary political lines , generations, tribes , race to make Zimbabwe work again. I find this lacking in Zimbabwe at the moment and I hope that even as I retreat into my shell and embark on life as a private citizen, God will raise one man or woman to take up this task.
God Bless Zimbabwe
I thank You
Comradely

Traditional Leader Enforces Ban On Prayer Mountain Gatherings

By A Correspondent

In Nyanga, Chief Saunyama, formerly Mr. Solomon Mapuranga, has issued a decree outlawing certain practices deemed contrary to local traditions and customs.

Installed by President Mnangagwa on November 2, 2023, Chief Saunyama aims to uphold the cultural heritage of the region, succeeding Mr. Victor Dahwa Saunyama, who served as acting chief for 13 years.

Under Chief Saunyama’s leadership, gatherings for the sale of wild fruits, such as mazhanje (sugar plum), praying in mountains, and wearing red clothing during the rainy season, are strictly prohibited.

These directives extend to the jurisdictions of Headmen Mushonga, Sanyamaropa, Madongonda, Ganje, Nyamutowa, Tsvito, and Nyamahumba.

Chief Saunyama emphasized the importance of respecting traditional norms and values to maintain harmony within the community.

The ban on the sale of wild fruits aims to preserve resources for both human and animal consumption, with penalties including the forfeiture of maize to be distributed to local wildlife.

Similarly, prayers conducted in mountainous areas are forbidden to safeguard sacred sites, some of which serve as burial grounds for traditional leaders and are integral to cultural rituals.

Additionally, the prohibition of wearing red attire during the rainy season is based on beliefs that such actions may provoke adverse weather conditions.

Headman Madongonda reiterated the significance of honoring local customs, underscoring the need for adherence to established norms despite individual rights.

Chief Saunyama’s measures seek to foster a deeper connection to cultural heritage while promoting environmental conservation and community cohesion.

President Mokgweetsi Masisi of Botswana described the demise of Dr Geingob as a blow to the region and continent, while South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said he will always cherish the lessons on governance given to him by his elder brother President Geingob.

Vice President of Angola’s MPLA Luisa Damiao also sent her condolence message to Namibia while confirming President Joao Lourenco’s attendance at the state funeral.

Dr Geingob, who has been described as a unifier, Pan-Africanist, freedom fighter, a dedicated and humble servant of the people of Namibia, SADC, and Africa, died on the 4th of this month after battling cancer.

He was first sworn in as President in 2015 after serving in various top political positions since Namibia’s independence in 1990.

The late Namibian President lived in exile for 27 years, spending time in Botswana, the US, and the UK, where he studied for a PhD in politics and came back to Namibia in 1989, a year before the country gained independence.

Botswana Endorses Discredited ZEC

By A Correspondent

As Botswana gears up for its own electoral process, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has embarked on a benchmarking mission to Zimbabwe, observing the preparations for the upcoming General Elections scheduled for October this year.

In a briefing held in Harare this Tuesday, Mr. Utloile Silaigwana, Chief Elections Officer of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), outlined the objectives of the visit, emphasizing a focus on the management of electoral activities and the conduct of elections.

“The delegation comprises of the Chief Public Relations Officer and the Policy Development and Voter Education Manager.

The benchmarking exercise will mainly focus on the management of electoral activities and the conduct of elections.

ZEC will also illustrate publicity activities such as its radio programmes, use of social media platforms and website as well as rebranding initiatives to the visitors,” he stated.

Mr. Silaigwana further underscored the significance of the visit, portraying it as an acknowledgment of the professionalism demonstrated by ZEC during the August 2023 general elections.

“Despite aspersions cast by some election observers on Zimbabwe’s elections, the visits are an endorsement of professionalism characteristic of ZEC’s electoral management especially in the conduct of credible elections,” he elaborated.

The delegation from Botswana follows in the footsteps of several regional electoral management bodies in Africa, including the Independent Electoral Commission of Lesotho and the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia, who have undertaken similar visits in the past.

The exchange of knowledge and experiences between electoral commissions across borders underscores a commitment to improving electoral processes and upholding democratic principles within the region.

As Botswana looks to strengthen its own electoral systems, the insights gained from Zimbabwe’s experience could prove invaluable in shaping the future of democracy in the country.

Time To Refurbish Giant National Sports Stadium

FORMER footballers have called on responsible authorities to learn from Cote d’Ivoire, after the West African nation showcased some of the best football stadiums on the continent during the just ended African Cup of Nations tournament.

This comes at a time when Zimbabwe has no football stadia to host international matches after all the local match venues failed to meet the minimum standards.

Played across six cities in Cote d’Ivoire, the delayed 2023 AFCON tournament was not just at exhibition of footballing talent, but also a showcase of the investment that country has made towards sporting infrastructure.

The Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan was the biggest with the capacity of 60,000 seats, followed by the 40 000 seater Bouaké Peace Stadium.

The other match venues for the tournament were: Félix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in Korhogo, Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro, andLaurent Pokou Stadium in San Pédro.

This has attracted the attention of former footballers who believe Zimbabwe needs to take a leaf from the West African nation, adding that the country has had enough of the humiliation of hosting international matches away from home as was the case in November last year when the Warriors played their World Cup qualifier against Nigeria in Rwanda.

“These are the lessons that we should learn as Zimbabwe, that as long as we organise well and have enough or good infrastructure everything goes well. Cote d’Ivoire are not the richest in the world but they managed to come up with six grand stadiums to host the AFCON and the standard of play was also influenced by the quality of the pitch even the atmosphere, the stands was brilliant and this is what we should learn to do and see the biggest picture that sport unites people. All we are lacking is organised skills, we need that,” said Former Warriors and CAPS United striker, Alouis Bunjira.

“We have seen beautiful stadiums in Cote d’Ivoire in the just ended AFCON tournament, i think as the hosts they are proud and it also improves tourism, revenue with so many people coming and as a country they really gained,” noted Former Dynamos Captain, Justice Mujabvi.

The Minister of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Dr Kirsty Coventry last week said the National Sports Stadium will be ready to host international matches by 30 April this year.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Football Association Normalisation Committee has announced the appointment of Jethro Hunidzarira as the association’s new technical director.

Hunidzarira, who is taking over from Wilson Mutekede who parted ways with the local football mother body four months ago, is aware of the task that lies ahead.

“This will give us good quality of players because if you look at the players that we have now, the crew that went to the AFCON we can follow their track from the youth where they were playing up to where they are in the senior so we need to bring back this quality which comes from the development of the grassroots,” he said.

Hunidzarira is not new on the football scene after turning out for Zimbabwe Saints and is a holder of a CAF A coaching licence.

Caught In The Act

A Mutare pharmacy till operator found himself on the wrong side of the law, his deceptive actions laid bare by the unblinking eye of CCTV. Patrick Makande, the operator in question, was brought before Mutare Magistrates’ Court last Thursday, facing serious allegations of theft that shook the community and his place of employment, Gray Pharmacy, located in the heart of the Mutare Central Business District.

The magistrate presiding over the case, Mr. Tafazdwa Mhlanga, delivered a swift verdict, finding Makande guilty of theft. The judgement came with a fine of US$400, a sum that pales in comparison to the trust and integrity squandered by Makande’s actions. The prosecution, led by Mr. Tinotenda Muzondo, painted a damning picture of deceit where Makande orchestrated a scheme involving his acquaintances. These individuals were seen collecting cash and medical supplies directly from the till, under the guise of legitimate transactions—a ploy unraveled through careful scrutiny of the pharmacy’s CCTV footage.

This breach of trust and blatant theft by Makande resulted in a reported loss of US$200 for his employer, a significant amount for any business, especially one serving the healthcare needs of the community. The evidence provided by the state, supported by the visual testimony of the CCTV footage, left little room for doubt regarding Makande’s guilt in these deceptive transactions.

The incident has sparked a conversation about the need for stringent oversight and the implementation of more robust security measures in businesses to prevent such breaches of trust. It also serves as a cautionary tale about the potential vulnerabilities within retail operations, highlighting the critical role of surveillance systems in uncovering and deterring criminal activities.

As the community grapples with the fallout of this incident, the case against Patrick Makande serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of undermining the trust placed in individuals by their employers and the broader community. It underscores the importance of ethical conduct and integrity in all professional dealings, especially in sectors as sensitive as healthcare.- state media

Headmaster Found Guilty

Former Hartzell High School Head Convicted of Corruption.

In a significant development in the fight against corruption within educational institutions, Shorwi Kawadza, the former head of Hartzell High School, was convicted on charges of corruptly concealing personal interest in transactions during his tenure at the esteemed United Methodist Church-run learning institution. The conviction was handed down yesterday by Mutare Regional Magistrate, Mrs. Pethukile Msipa, who has since remanded Kawadza in custody pending sentencing scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday.

Details emerged in court revealing that between 2019 and 2022, Mutrue Investments Private Limited Company, co-directed by Kawadza, his wife, and son, engaged in business dealings with Hartzell High School, supplying a variety of goods including firewood, tomatoes, peanut butter, and vegetables. This period of undisclosed conflict of interest has raised serious concerns about the ethical governance of the institution.

The prosecutor, Mr. Tirivanhu Mutyasira, outlined that according to the United Methodist Church Operations Policies and Procedures Manual, any business transactions between Mutrue Investments and Hartzell High were classified as related party transactions. Such dealings required explicit authorization by the United Methodist Church Agencies of Annual Conference, a procedure Kawadza failed to follow, thereby violating the institution’s trust and policies.

Kawadza’s failure to declare his personal and familial interests in Mutrue Investments to the Church Agencies meant that there was no formal approval for these transactions. Furthermore, the court was informed that the Procurement Committee of Hartzell High School, which is responsible for overseeing such transactions, had not selected Mutrue Investments as an official supplier, nor had it deliberated on purchases from the company.

This conviction sheds light on the crucial importance of transparency and integrity in the management of educational institutions. Kawadza, represented by Mr. Victor Chinzamba of Mugadza, Chinzamba, and Partners, was found guilty of contravening Section 173 (a) (i) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform Act), Chapter 9:23.

As the community awaits the sentencing, this case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of breaching ethical guidelines and the importance of upholding the principles of fairness and accountability in all professional conduct.

President Chamisa Exposes Zanu PF Hypocrisy

Tinashe Sambiri

Zimbabwean opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa has issued a stark warning about the dire state of the country’s economy, citing alarming increases in the cost of living and a plummeting national budget.

In a statement addressing the nation, Chamisa highlighted several concerning developments that have unfolded within a remarkably short period, attributing them to what he describes as “broken politics” and flawed electoral processes.

Chamisa’s statement underscores the profound impact of economic instability on ordinary Zimbabweans, particularly regarding the affordability of essential goods and services.

He points out that in just one month, the budget required to sustain a family of five has more than doubled, soaring from approximately ZWL$3 million in December 2023 to ZWL$6.2 million per month in January 2024. This staggering escalation places an enormous financial burden on households, especially considering that many workers are only taking home a fraction of this amount after deductions.

Furthermore, Chamisa highlights the alarming depreciation of the national budget, which has been slashed in half within the span of a month due to a significant decline in the official exchange rate.

This sharp devaluation has left the government incapacitated, struggling to meet crucial financial obligations and essential payments.

Perhaps most concerning is the exponential rise in annual inflation, which has surged by approximately 323%, reaching a staggering 1347% in the first week of February 2024.

Such hyperinflation erodes the purchasing power of citizens, exacerbating poverty and economic hardship across the nation.

Chamisa attributes these alarming economic trends to what he perceives as the consequences of fraudulent elections, disputed national processes, and a broader landscape of broken politics.

He suggests that these systemic issues have created an environment of instability and uncertainty, undermining investor confidence and perpetuating economic turmoil.

The opposition leader’s candid assessment serves as a sobering reminder of the urgent need for political reform and economic revitalization in Zimbabwe.

As the country grapples with mounting challenges, Chamisa’s words resonate as a call to action for leaders to prioritize the welfare of the people and work towards meaningful solutions to address the root causes of the economic crisis.

In conclusion, Nelson Chamisa’s impassioned plea draws attention to the human cost of political dysfunction and economic mismanagement.

His message serves as a rallying cry for change, urging stakeholders to come together in pursuit of a more prosperous and equitable future for all Zimbabweans.

Special Tribute To Morgan Tsvangirai

By A Correspondent

Morgan Tsvangirai, a prominent figure in Zimbabwean politics, left an indelible mark on the nation’s struggle for democracy and social justice.

Born on March 10, 1952, in Gutu, Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), Tsvangirai’s journey from a trade union activist to Zimbabwe’s prime minister epitomizes resilience, courage, and a steadfast commitment to democratic ideals. On this day, February 14, 2018, we remember Tsvangirai’s legacy as the doyen of democracy, whose contributions continue to inspire generations.

Early Life and Union Activism

Tsvangirai’s early life was marked by hardship, yet he persevered, driven by a desire to support his family. Leaving school prematurely, he entered the workforce, eventually finding his calling in trade union activism.

His ascent within the ranks of the Associated Mineworkers Union and later as the secretary-general of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) showcased his leadership acumen and unwavering dedication to championing the rights of workers.

Defiance Against Authoritarian Rule

Throughout his career, Tsvangirai fearlessly opposed the oppressive regime of Robert Mugabe, challenging his policies and advocating for democratic reforms.

The historic 2008 elections stand as a testament to Tsvangirai’s resilience in the face of adversity.

Despite widespread intimidation and violence targeting his supporters, Tsvangirai emerged as a symbol of hope for a nation yearning for change.

Quest for Democracy

The aftermath of the 2008 elections underscored Tsvangirai’s unwavering commitment to democratic principles.

Despite securing a significant portion of the vote, Tsvangirai’s path to presidency was obstructed by electoral irregularities and violence orchestrated by the ruling party.

His decision to participate in a runoff election despite the risks demonstrated his unwavering belief in the democratic process and his dedication to serving the people of Zimbabwe.

Legacy of Courage and SacrificeTsvangirai’s leadership extended beyond political office; it embodied the aspirations of a nation striving for freedom and justice.

His courage in the face of persecution, his steadfast resolve in pursuing democratic ideals, and his unwavering commitment to the people of Zimbabwe leave an enduring legacy that transcends borders and generations.

As we commemorate the life and legacy of Morgan Tsvangirai on this day, let us reaffirm our commitment to upholding the principles of democracy, justice, and human rights for which he so tirelessly fought.

Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all those who continue to strive for a better, more equitable world.

Morgan Tsvangirai, the doyen of democracy, will forever be remembered as a beacon of hope and a champion of the people.

Chinoputsa Quits Politics

President Nelson Chamisa Reveals How Emmerson Mnangagwa Is Punishing Citizens

Nelson Chamisa Is President Tsvangirai’s Chosen Successor

Remembering Morgan Tsvangirai , the icon

By Luke Tamborinyoka

Today, marks the sixth anniversary of the death of Morgan Tsvangirai, Zimbabwe’s doyen of the democratic struggle. Tsvangirai loved his country and its people and it may have been epiphanic that he died on Valentine’s day; on the day that the consuming power of love is celebrated worldwide.

Tsvangirai left a rich legacy that is being strenuously torn asunder by the treacherous and mercenary lot among us; the wicked motley that has chosen to be Zanu PF’s willing tool in the macabre plot to decimate the people’s democratic project.

The Morgan Tsvangirai I know must certainly be violently turning in his grave at this unbridled treachery and the annihilation of his legacy by these latter-day Judas Iscariots who jointly and severally are now hobnobbing with . ZANU PF to undermine a struggle he founded, cherished and nurtured till his death on St .Valentine’s Day in 2018.

Facts are stubborn. It is trite to state that the story of Zimbabwe cannot be written without according veneration to the name of Morgan Richard Tsvangirai.

For there is no debate that Tsvangirai deserves his own space in the national narrative for the significant role he has played in shaping the country’s post-liberation politics.

Fate is a capricious woman and the whole journey was never planned, as the man himself often told me. It was fate that often tended to throw him to the deep end.

As he always told me, it all started during midnight conversations at the national labour federation’s elective congress in Gweru in 1988. He did not even want to run for office and most delegates at that elective congress, including Tsvangirai himself, had tipped veteran journalist Charles Chikerema to clinch the powerful post of secretary-general of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions.

Albert Mugabe, the brother to former President Robert Mugabe, had been leading the ZCTU and everyone at the congress was convinced that Chikerema, yet another relative of Mugabe, would ascend to the powerful post of secretary general of the ZCTU.

But the conversations among the delegates on the ominous eve of the elections in Gweru expressed doubts on whether Chikerema would be able to wean off the ZCTU from the firm clutches of government, where previous leaders had unwittingly left the country’s labour federation.

Some within the ZCTU wanted the labour body to break away from the firm clutches of government control and they were convinced Tsvangirai would be the man to drive the ZCTU to full autonomy, given the way he had run the mine workers’ union. Emissaries from the various affiliate unions spent the whole night in Morgan Tsvangirai’s hotel room seeking to convince him to run for the powerful post of secretary general of the ZCTU, the national labour federation. .

Morgan Tsvangirai, then a leader of the mineworkers’ union, eventually agreed to run after fellow delegates had made what he seemed to be legitimate arguments throughout the night about the unsuitability of Chikerema. The delegates had their misgivings on whether the veteran scribe would give the ZCTU its deserved autonomy from government control, given his relationship to Robert Mugabe.

It was almost morning when Tsvangirai finally agreed to run for the post of secretary-general, which he won a few hours later, setting the stage for a 30-year tenure in the national limelight as a doyen of both the country’s national labour union and the democratic struggle.

When I heard the news of his death at exactly 1737hours on Wednesday, 14 February 2018, I mused over how this journey that started in 1988 had painfully ended 30 years later, some 24 days before his 66th birthday.

His life was a tenuous journey in which he was prejudiced of the Presidency following his watershed victory in the elections held on 29 March 2008. Given his mammoth love for the country and its people, he humbled himself and settled for the junior post of Prime Minister.

Morgan Tsvangirai was to rescue the country from a debilitating crisis and poise the nation for stability, growth and development in a mere four years as premier of Zimbabwe. Driving a stability and growth agenda through the Government Work Programme that was steered by the Prime Minister’s Office, Tsvangirai showed his competence on the wheel of government during his four year stint as Premier of Zimbabwe. Indeed, the song Dollar for two yakauya naTsvangirai will forever stand as testimony to the verdict by ordinary Zimbabweans that the man’s tenure as Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister was synonymous with affordable prices of basic commodities and a “livable” country.

As the nation stood on the cusp of a crucial election in which he was expected to win resoundingly, fate again intervened. This time, cruel fate took him to the grave, leaving a despondent nation shell-shocked.

He was a man I knew so well, a man I served for a decade as his spokesperson until his death.

A father.

A boss.

A friend.

We travelled the world and across the country together. We spent many times talking about the country and the people he so much loved.

Tokyo, Washington, London, Canberra, Beijing, Paris, Berlin, the Swiss Alps in Davos and many other world capitals, I had the privilege of accompanying him as his spokesperson. During those trips across the globe, he often charmed the world and gave revered speeches to bemused audiences, especially during his stint as Prime Minister of Zimbabwe and leader of the country’s main opposition.

We travelled together to Windhoek, Pretoria, Luanda, Maputo, Nairobi, Accra, Dar es Salaam, Abidjan, Lagos and many other African capitals. Across the whole of Africa, I saw for myself the respect African citizens gave to this courageous African who had chosen to confront—with nothing but his bare hands and an unstinting tenacity—the murderous regime of one of Africa’s entrenched tyrants.

In the country, we travelled together from Plumtree to Chipinge, from Nyanga to Chirundu and from Mt. Darwin to Binga down in the Zambezi escarpment as he engaged in his favourite pastime—-meeting ordinary people and getting their input into how the democratic struggle ought to be prosecuted.

The last time we traversed the country together for one-and-half months—sometimes sleeping in the car—-was the period between January and February 2017 when we sought the ordinary people’s input into the MDC’s 2014 Congress resolution to enter into a formidable alliance with other political players.

We sat together until late in the night after that tour as we penned his piece after that highly informing jaunt. We titled the piece ” I Heard You ” in keeping with his natural disposition as a listening leader.

The people had unanimously and unequivocally endorsed the formation of an Alliance. This is how the MDC Alliance was formed, which Alliance was fought and eventually captured, thanks to the treacherous lot that sought to betray both Tsvangirai’s legacy and with it the hope of the generality of the people of Zimbabwe.

Tsvangirai was a boss any rational person could wish for; the only boss I know who could afford to attend funerals of relatives of his underlings, as he did in 2015 when he came unannounced to my rural home in Domboshava for the burial of my grandmother, Martha Tamborenyoka Gombera.

He was a leader who would wait to give an ear to everyone, whatever their social station. He often had tiffs with his security personnel, whom he always wanted to relax their tight protocols and allow ordinary people to shake his hand and to speak to him.

Party members and ordinary villagers would come from as far away as Mt. Darwin and be granted an ear at his residence, first in Strathaven and later in Highlands; even against the advice of security personnel who often wanted to refer these ordinary party members to channel their grievances and concerns through their respective provincial leaders.

Not with Tsvangirai, who would insist he wanted to get the untainted, raw concerns from ordinary supporters, undiluted by the strictures and drudgery of officialdom, party hierarchy and bureaucracy.

That was vintage Tsvangirai. Always a man of the people.

His death came as a shock….especially against the background of my last two moments with him.

The first of our last two personal and direct engagements was on Friday, 5 January 2018 after his meeting with Emmerson Mnangagwa who had come to visit him at his Highlands home.

It was at that meeting at his residence that he intimated to me the details of his private discussion with Mnangagwa.

At the same meeting, he told me to tell the world that he was about to leave the country and he would leave Vice President Nelson Chamisa as acting President and he asked me to call Chamisa who arrived a few minutes later.

The other two, VP Mudzuri and VP Khupe had previously acted in his absence and this was going to be Chamisa’s first stint as acting President.

That Friday Chamisa declined to be the acting, saying Khupe hated him so much and it was not going to be good to have a sulking Khupe publicly throwing all sorts of invective when the boss was not in good health. Chamisa said he did not want an impression of a fight in the cockpit when the President was being treated in hospital. Chamisa declined and suggested that his acting Presidency be passed over to Mudzuri.

It was then that President Tsvangirai told me while we all sat in his lounge to issue a statement communicating to the world that VP Mudzuri would be acting President.

For the record, present in the meeting in his lounge that Friday afternoon when Chamisa declined to act as President, apart from Tsvangirai himself, was his wife Elizabeth, his brother Manaseh Tsvangirai, President Tsvangirai’s uncle innocent Zvaipa and myself. .

President Tsvangirai’s lawyer, Innocent Chagonda, also arrived during the meeting.

It is ironic that after I had issued the communication that Mudzuri was the acting president, Khupe took issue with me, saying that as the only VP elected at Congress, she was the one who should always act in the President’s absence. I referred her queries to the President, under whose authority and direction I had done the communication.

President Tsvangirai just laughed off the whole matter and said if Khupe had issues around the acting Presidency, she should contact him.

Ironically, a month later, Mudzuri, for whom Khupe had raised concerns when he was chosen to act, was to dispute my communication of the President’s directive that Chamisa was now the acting party leader.

President Tsvangirai gave me the directive to communicate that Chamisa was now the acting President on the 7th of February 2018 after he learnt that Khupe, Mudzuri and Mwonzora were meeting with amai Joyce Mujuru in Cape Town to sculpt an alliance without his knowledge, and without the involvement of Chamisa, the VP he had given the mandate and responsibility to negotiate with other political leaders on his behalf.

My last face-to-face meeting with my boss was the following Monday, 8 January 2018, the day before he left for South Africa, never to come back alive.

The previous Friday, he had asked me to draft a belated New Year’s message to the people of Zimbabwe, in which he was hinting at his imminent retirement.

He told me that it was important to signal to the world that he would not hold the nation at ransom; that he would not hold on to the party presidency if his doctors told him his health would not permit him to withstand the rigorous of an election campaign.

He wanted to give advance notice to the people of Zimbabwe on the possibility of his retirement, which he would only confirm upon his return after consulting his doctors.

He perused his script, made minor corrections and certified that I distribute it, only for the same script to cause a major furore in the party, with some misguided elements lying that the statement did not have president Tsvangirai’s blessings.

It is important to state that present at the foyer of his Highlands residence as he authenticated that statement hinting at a possible retirement was his brother Manasseh and Jameson Timba, who later arrived as the President and I were finishing the work on his script, in which he hinted at handing over the baton to others. It was a possibility which he said he would only confirm upon his return depending on the advice from his doctors.

Sadly, he was to return with his body lying in the soft requiem of death; the inimitable raspy and raucous laughter never to be heard again at Harvest House or anywhere else for that matter.

Yes, he left for the infirmary in South Africa on Tuesday, 9 January 2018 aboard a South African Airways flight, never to return alive to the country and the people he loved so much. He regularly phoned and at one point asked me to come over to South Africa so we could discuss a lot of issues.

I told then acting president Mudzuri that president Tsvangirai wanted me in South Africa.

The then acting president promised to facilitate my trip before logistical impediments were deliberately thrown in the way to ensure that the trip never materialized.

President Tsvangirai later called to express his regrets that I had failed to turn up in South Africa.

On Wednesday, 7 February 2018, he called again using a hospital staffer’s cellphone and told me that he had learnt and had even seen pictures to the effect that Mudzuri, Khupe and Mwonzora had left the country for a meeting in Cape Town without even the courtesy of informing him, leaving Chamisa as the only VP still in the country. He said he was reverting to his first position on Friday, 5 January 2018 when he had delegated Chamisa to be the acting Though he spoke in an uncharacteristically low voice, I could tell he was angry at the team that was in SA without his knowledge when he asked me to issue a statement communicating that Chamisa was now the acting President until his return from South Africa.

President Tsvangirai told me from South Africa that his health was slowly failing him and that the thrust of the book we were working on— Service and Sacrifice —should change into a valediction and not to remain as a simple story of the party’s capacity to deliver to the people as shown during the era of the inclusive government.

I felt tears swelling in my eyes before assuring him that he would be fine and he would rejoin us in the struggle soon.

Alas, that was never to be.

My father.

My boss.

My friend.

He was a close friend who would at times call me and my wife for dinner and to assure me that he took cognizance of my loyalty and committed service to the party and to himself, oftentimes with no salary. He once invited me and my wife to his house for dinner where he shared many of his thoughts on a variety of issues in a convivial atmosphere. Also present at that meeting at his house in June 2017 was a mutual friend, Sydney Masamvu.

As the party and the nation mourned him, I could help but reminisce on the many moments we shared; the many thoughts he intimated to me on subjects such as family politics, succession and his vision for the future.

In our last conversation when he called from South Africa, he told me he had instructed the medical executives at the hospital where he was receiving treatment that apart from the members of his immediate family, I was also to be informed about his health. That is how the medical staff kept in contact with me until they called to relay the tragic message that he had passed on.

In his final moment, I would have loved the leadership then to give this man a befitting send-off. I sincerely hoped that the needless cockpit stampede should have been
put in abeyance, at least in the veneration of this hero of our time.

His will remain a story of fortitude and tenacity and there is no doubt that Morgan Tsvangirai left ineradicable footprints on the sands of the country’s history.

Botswana Electoral Commission Seeks Lessons From Discredited ZEC

Hopewell Says Chamisa Can’t Be President Cause He’s Got No Money, And Chinono Fails To Disclose The UK Dealership He Says Made Him Sportscar Rich At 25

“…Emmanuel Macron won in France and not in Africa, the realities of the two political landscapes should be studied and not compared without nuance.

Now lastly, Macron was a senior civil servant in France in the Inspectorate General of finances, he also worked as an investment banker at Rothschild Bank, after that he worked as deputy secretary general President Francois Hollande and became his advisor.
He became Minister of Economics, Industry and Technology, put simply, he was no ordinary guy.
He understood the political system and the global economic system so he was backed by solid money and not by random donations as candidates turn to do in Africa.

Contrary to what many also say, he actually ran under the banner of the En Marche, a centrist and pro-European political movement he founded in 2016.

It is important for anyone running as an independent presidential candidate to understand the unique political dynamics and differences between countries like France and Zimbabwe, and to understand that Macron was not just by himself.
What should be accentuated is that he didn’t use the traditional political parties, but he did have a vehicle.

Successful presidential campaigns in Africa require more than popularity, they require a strong and well organised political structure to scaffold the candidate and also financial backing because in fighting a ZANUPF candidate, you are essentially fighting the whole state.

Can one man fight a whole State and win in Zimbabwe or Africa?
No such chance and attempting to do so will show a lack of seriousness if one ever tried do it in-spite of all the evidence around us showing that doing so is a total lack of local political foresight…” – Hopewell Chin’ono.

Activist Hopewell Chin’ono says Chamisa can’t be president because unlike Emmanuel Macron, he has no money and no structures | Chin’ono, who changed his own name when his best friends were convicted of cheque fraud in UK, is still to disclose the dealership he claims made him property rich through a £50,000 sports car loan in 1996.

The activist who calls self by the gangsterish TB Joshua style “Daddy” title, has spent the last 6 years advising the Zimbabwe military to descend on Nelson Chamisa led tortuted activists he accuses of causing tension in the country.

He says he is the nation’s Daddy who alone exposes corruption, and he was catapulted into political stardom after the military regime he supports slapped him with charges of incitement to violence in July 2020. In the period 2021 to 2023, he has operated layers of accusations against Chamisa which include his prediction that Chamiaa was going to split his party and to lose the 2023 elections because according to him he did not conduct register to vote rallies in 2022.

https://x.com/zimeye/status/1736094271973872117?s=46

Chamisa ran nearly a thousand such rallies in 2022 alone. This time, Chin’ono has shifted to say Chamisa split his party because he is against structures.

Remembering Morgan Tsvangirai: A Champion of Democracy

President Nelson Chamisa Reveals How Emmerson Mnangagwa Is Punishing Citizens

FULL TEXT: Long Serving Opposition Cadre Quits Politics

I thank You

Comradely

Thanks for the memories, Pakuru .

Rest in power, gallant son of Zimbabwe.

I Feel For July Moyo, Says Kasukuwere

Self-exiled former ZANU PF political commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere, has urged the Government to review the Communal Lands Act so that traditional leaders, councillors and land officers work in sync to prevent the sprouting of illegal settlements across the country.

The former Local Government Minister also said while “it is not an easy task to preside over the demolition of homesteads”, if it is not done, chaos will continue unabated.

Kasukuwere made the remarks after the Government launched operation, “No To Land Barons and Illegal Settlements on Land” which has resulted in the arrest of 3 775 people as of 12 February 2024.

He posted on X:
A holistic review of the Communal Lands Act is now imperative to arrest the chaos we are witnessing.
Unplanned settlements have cropped up everywhere and because of corruption, the situation is truly out of control.
The state should move swiftly to align the land authorities, from the Village Head, Chief, Land Officers, Councillors, the Ministry of Lands and the Ministry of Local Government.

There are a raft of acts that regulate the land and more often than not, they don’t speak to each other hence the chaos.

The then Ministry of Cooperatives, Rural District and Urban authorities all have a responsibility to administer the land.

Hundreds of villagers are facing eviction from their ancestral lands for allegedly occupying gazetted land without lawful authority.

According to the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), some of the villagers have been in occupation of their land for more than 40 years and made tremendous improvements to their land.

Kasukuwere called upon the Cabinet to urgently set up a committee to review existing laws and harmonise them. He said:
I suggest that the Cabinet urgently sets up a committee to review the legal instruments at hand and harmonise them.

Secondly, identify and plan how the affected families can be assisted and resettled legally.

I need not remind you of the need to give appropriate title to citizens to avoid the chaos we are seeing.

The road ahead is littered with huge obstacles for the Ministry and they must communicate effectively for society to appreciate their intentions.

Kasukuwere, however, did not condemn the demolition of villagers’ homes, a development that is taking place in the middle of the rainy season.

He said:
I feel for the Minister of Local Govt at present because it is not an easy task to preside over the demolition of homesteads and exposing vulnerable children and elders. On the other hand, if it’s not done, the chaos will continue.

Destroying a homestead is a difficult undertaking for any leader. In the absence of a clearly defined process that citizens can follow should they require land, the pain and chaos will be with us for some time to come.

President Nelson Chamisa Bemoans Soaring Cost Of Living

Gold Mafia Kingpin in Desperate Bid to Sanitize Soiled Image

By A Correspondent| Controversial businessman Simon Rudland has embarked on an image restoration campaign following revelations that he is the kingpin of a money laundering cartel that is plunging Zimbabwe’s economy into oblivion. Rudland, regarded as one of Zimbabwe’s richest men, was exposed last year in an Al Jazeera documentary titled “The Gold Mafia,” which sent shockwaves across the globe.

In a video clip circulating on social media, Rudland is seen attempting to portray his business empire as sustained by his farming ventures, cigarette business, hard work, and good rapport with his employees.

“As you can see in the video, SR (Simon Rudland) is a farmer at heart and truly cares and appreciates his employees. Our goal is to continue to spread the truth about SR,” he wrote, captioning the video on Twitter before adding, “our goal is to continue to spread the truth about SR.”

However, the stunt was met with mixed emotions, with a section of netizens berating the public relations efforts.

“Why is this guy not in jail?” Twitter user Trojan Horse commented.

“SARS should deal with this one for money laundering and other predicate crimes,” said user @TriggermanTTT.

While others could only see the gold mafia kingpin portrayed by Al Jazeera.

“Gold Mafia in Chief,” said @Tanya Zhou.

“What a guy. Mafia in Chief,” added @MandereJohn.

However, a different section praised the man.

“Simon is like that for real. He has a charming character even among his workers. Your normal kind of guy,” commented @Dudi.

“But Simon, mukomana guys. Anotsvaga mari muchinda uyo zvimwe ndezvimwe. I admire his tenacity,” said @Tongai Kasukuvere.

SA Opposition Party Targets Zimbabwean Students In New Xenophobic Attacks

By A Correspondent| In a surprising turn of events, South Africa’s opposition Patriotic Alliance (PA) party has shifted its focus to schools, alleging enrollment of Zimbabwean students and sparking fears of potential xenophobic tensions.

The party, known for its recent controversial border patrols, now seeks an audit of permits, residence documents, job visas, and asylum seekers dating back to 1994.

In a recent incident, PA members, led by deputy president Kenny Kunene, made headlines by storming Esikhisini School in Pretoria, protesting the alleged enrollment of Zimbabwean learners.

Kunene, also campaigning for the Gauteng province premiership, took to social media, confirming their visit and expressing concerns about the teaching of Shona at the school.

The PA claims that foreign students, particularly Zimbabweans, are taking spots that should go to South African nationals.

Kunene, a former teacher and businessman-turned-politician, vows to express his displeasure at education offices and, if elected, discourage schools from enrolling foreign nationals altogether.

This controversial move by the PA comes amid longstanding tensions between South Africans and the over a million Zimbabweans who have sought refuge in the country due to economic challenges.

Accusations of job displacement have fueled xenophobic sentiments, leading to deadly attacks on migrants.

Kunene’s history, marked by involvement in student politics and a prison stint in the 1980s, adds complexity to the narrative.

Despite his past, he is confident in winning the Gauteng premiership and aims to implement policies discouraging schools from admitting foreign students.

This development echoes previous incidents, such as the 2022 remarks by Limpopo Member of the Executive Committee for Health, Phophi Ramathuba, who berated Zimbabwean patients and even considered billing President Emmerson Mnangagwa for health services provided to immigrants.

These actions continue to strain relations between the two nations, prompting responses from the Zimbabwean embassy in South Africa.
