Moreblessing Ali’s life was cut short by the hands of violence, perpetrated by a Zanu PF activist, Pius Jamba.

Former St Mary’s MP, Hon Job Sikhala, has issued a statement regarding Moreblessing’s burial, inviting all friends, relatives, and colleagues to join in commemorating her life and bringing closure to this tragic chapter.

The burial is scheduled for Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Zororo Cemetery at 12:30 pm.

Outrage As Woman Gives Birth in Masvingo City Centre Amidst Health Crisis

In a harrowing incident that has sent shockwaves through Masvingo, on Monday afternoon, a young woman, whose identity remains unknown, gave birth in the heart of the city with no medical assistance in sight.

The distressing scene unfolded along a footpath leading to Masvingo Provincial Hospital, as bystanders looked on in horror while the woman endured the pains of labor.

Eyewitnesses recounted the chaotic events as the woman struggled through the birthing process without any professional help.

“Nobody attended to the young lady. She literally gave birth by herself.

What Does The Constitution Says About Mnangagwa’s Manouvres For A Third Term In Power?

By Mlondolozi Ndhlovu| On February 21, 2024, some leaders of the Zanu PF party in Masvingo province declared that they wanted President Mnangagwa to go beyond 2028, contrary to the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

But what does the supreme law of Zimbabwe say about these ambitions?

Section 95 of the Zimbabwe Constitution Amendment (No20) Act, 2013 (hereinafter referred to as “the Constitution”) states that the President’s term begins when he or she is sworn in and extends normally for five years until the next election when he or she is re-elected or a new president is elected.

Under the Constitution, in terms of Section 91 a president cannot serve more than two terms in office, so long as each of those terms lasts three or more years.

In Zimbabwe a president’s term is limited to two five-year terms after which he or she will be ineligible to run for presidency.

Can this constitutional position be changed?

The question that arises under this question is, can a president’s term be extended beyond the current position given at law.

Yes, it is possible but there will be a lot of hurdles to overcome in order to achieve that. The constitutional position can be changed.

How can a presidential term of office be extended?

There is a standard procedure to be followed in order to effect this change. Section 91(2) of the Constitution provides that;

“A person is disqualified for election as president or vice-president if he or she has already held office as president under this Constitution for two terms, whether continuous or not, and for the purpose of this subsection three or more years’ service is deemed to be a full term.”

The presidential term can, however, be extended beyond the two terms through triggering a constitutional amendment of Section 91(2).  Section 328(5) of the Constitution provides that a Bill to amend the Constitution must be passed by a two-thirds majority of the National Assembly and the Senate before it becomes law. In addition, if a Bill seeks to amend the declaration of rights or Chapter 16 (which relates to Agricultural land) it must be approved through a national referendum before it can become law.

Section 91(2) is not part of the declaration of rights nor does it fall within Chapter 16 of the Constitution so it can be amended by a two-thirds majority of both houses of Parliament to expunge the presidential limits.

What is the hurdle?

Despite the hurdle of acquiring the two-thirds majority vote, the amendment of Section 91(2) of the Constitution is not without a catch.

An amendment to a term limit provision which has the effect of extending the length of time that a person can hold in a public office such as presidency does not apply to anyone who held that office, or an equivalent office before the amendment.

This means that even if two-thirds of the Members of Parliament were to pass a Bill extending or revoking the term limits imposed by section 91(2) of the Constitution the Bill would not allow the President to stand for a third term in office.

The amendment will not benefit the President but his successor. This provision is carried under Section 328(7) which reads: “Notwithstanding any other provision of this section, an amendment to a term limit provision, the effect of which is to extend the length of time that a person may hold or occupy any public office, does not apply in relation to any person who held or occupied that office, or an equivalent office, at any time before the amendment.”

To further provide safeguards against presidential term limit extension, the drafters of the new charter came up with a provision stipulating that Section 328 could itself only be amended through a referendum [see Section 328(9)]. Hence to achieve the extension of the presidential term, an amendment of section 328(7) will have to be done before amending Section 91(2).

The constitutional amendment process

Zimbabwe falls into the group of “rigid” Constitutions in that the Constitution cannot be amended in the same way as any other legislation.  The whole Constitution is “entrenched” in the sense that the rigidity applies to all provisions of the Constitution.

There are four aspects, which make the process of amendment of the Zimbabwean Constitution an entrenched one.

First, no provision of the Constitution may be amended by implication.  Every amendment must be in express words.

Other statutes can be amended by implication.  This is less rigid than the position in other countries, such as South Africa, which insist on the Bill amending, the Constitution, not to contain any other provisions.

This is designed to achieve maximum transparency in the amendment of the Constitution in that provision, although express, which purports to amend the Constitution must not pass unnoticed by being hidden among unrelated issues.

In theory, a Bill amending the Zimbabwean Constitution may contain other provisions as long as the amending clauses are in express words.

Secondly, a Constitutional Bill must be published in the Government Gazette at least 90 days before it is introduced in Parliament. There is no such requirement for other Bills. The objective of the 90 days requirement is to call for and allow public debate on the proposed amendments.

Thirdly, at least two-thirds of the total membership of Parliament must vote in favour of a Bill for it to pass. Other Bills only require a mere majority of those “present and voting”.

Fourthly, a Constitutional Bill, requires to be accompanied by a certificate from the Speaker of the National Assembly confirming the two-thirds vote and the President cannot assent to the Bill unless it is so accompanied.

The Constitution reposes the amendment power in the Parliament of Zimbabwe. Parliament is made up of the National Assembly and the Senate.

The Constitution further prescribes a public consultation process before a Bill amending the Constitution can be adopted by the two houses of Parliament.

For a Bill amending the Constitution to pass validly, it should attain the votes of at least two-thirds of the Members of the National Assembly, and at least two-thirds of the Senators in separate sittings.

The President may then assent to the Bill, before it is gazetted and subsumed into the law of the land.

It is imperative to point that the Constitution cannot and should not be amended lightly.

The Constitution is the supreme law of Zimbabwe, governing relations between the government and its people, and between the different arms of government.

Because of its nature and the way in which it was enacted, it should not be amended except for the most compelling of reasons.

Although the Constitution states that it can be amended by a two-thirds majority of the membership of the National Assembly and the Senate [section 328(5)] the government should not proceed with an amendment unless satisfied there is broad support for it in the country.

Any political party using a two-thirds majority as an opportunity to amend the Constitution must realise that as soon as another party gets a similar majority it will also amend it, and so the Constitution will be debased by continuous see-saw amendments passed to suit the whims of the party in power.

The presidential term limit imposed by Section 91(2) of the Constitution can be extended or abolished altogether by a Constitutional Amendment Bill passed by two-thirds of the Members of Parliament.

Unless there is a Constitutional overhaul, the ruling President will be ineligible to stand in the 2028 elections. Such a Bill would not, however, permit the President to stand for a third term unless in addition it was approved through a national referendum.

Shadowy Man Threatens To Gun-Down Mnangagwa

By Political Reporter- A shadowy man has surfaced in a video, threatening to gun down President Emerson Mnangagwa, attributing the threat to the alleged mismanagement of the country and the neglect of its citizens.

The unidentified man, dressed in a black suit and a purple shirt, ominously brandished two pistols in the video while expressing grievances about the economic hardships faced by Zimbabweans.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched a search for the shadowy character.

In a public statement, the ZRP announced the initiation of a manhunt to identify and locate the individual responsible for the threat. The official statement posted on social media reads as follows:
“The ZRP is appealing for information which may assist in identifying and locating a man who is seen on social media brandishing two pistols while threatening to kill the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and some Government officials. The man is wearing a black suit and a purple shirt. Anyone with information is urged to report to the nearest Police Station.”

MDC-T Leader Douglas Mwonzora Accused of Neglecting 9-Year-Old Son, Court Orders Monthly Maintenance

By A Correspondent| MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora has been accused of neglecting his nine-year-old son with ex-lover Getrude Chuma.

The revelation came to light during a court hearing before Harare magistrate Meenal Narotam.

Chuma, the ex-lover, asserted that Mwonzora, a prominent political figure, should be held accountable for the well-being of their child.

She demanded a monthly payment of US$1,500 to cover the child’s upkeep.

Chuma argued that Mwonzora, with his position as a political party president, ownership of a farm in Nyanga, and directorship at a law firm, could easily afford the stipulated amount.

Adding to the accusations, Chuma disclosed that Mwonzora insisted on enrolling the minor in a private school, despite his failure to fulfill the financial obligations related to school fees.

It was further revealed in court that Mwonzora had allegedly blocked Chuma’s attempts to communicate with him.

In Mwonzora’s absence, Magistrate Narotam granted Chuma’s application, issuing a court order mandating the politician to pay a monthly maintenance fee of US$500.

Additionally, Mwonzora was directed to settle his son’s school fees in full.

The court’s decision underscores the gravity of the allegations against the political leader, placing him under legal obligations to provide for his neglected child.

Manhunt for Armed Assailant Who Threatened To Gun Down Mnangagwa

By A Correspondent| Zimbabwean police have initiated a manhunt for an unidentified gunslinger who brandished two pistols while issuing chilling threats against President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The assailant accused Mnangagwa of wreaking havoc and plunging the nation into turmoil.

The menacing individual, fluent in both Shona and English, asserted that President Mnangagwa surpassed the late former president Robert Mugabe in incompetence, thereby justifying the ominous warning of a potential assassination.

The explicit threat has prompted law enforcement authorities to take immediate action.

In an official statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) declared, “The ZRP is appealing for information which may assist to identify and locate a man who is seen on social media brandishing two pistols while threatening to kill the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and some government officials.

“The man is wearing a black suit and a purple shirt. Anyone with information is urged to report to the nearest police station.”

Mystery Surrounds Birchenough Bridge Death as Man Found Dead After Sexual Encounter

By A Correspondent| In a shocking incident, a male adult was discovered dead under mysterious circumstances near the Save River, with reports suggesting a sexual encounter may have led to his untimely demise.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police are currently investigating the incident, with preliminary findings pointing to an unusual sequence of events.

According to a police memo released on the 25th of February 2024, the informant stumbled upon the lifeless body at around 1500 hours while en route to his garden. Upon returning to the same location at 1800 hours, the body remained on the ground, showing no signs of life. The Birchenough Bridge police post was alerted around 1830 hours, and authorities were quick to attend the scene.

The deceased, a male adult, was found lying face down with his grey shorts halfway lifted. His attire included a black vest, grey shorts with the label “Lakers 23,” a yellow floral shirt, a blue pant, and white shoes. A black wallet containing US$1, ZWL$1,100, a brown bazooka radio, and a blue towel were discovered at the scene. Additionally, the deceased had a black power bank and an H mobile cellphone in his right pocket.

Initial investigations revealed that the deceased, whose identity has not been disclosed, had encountered Gracious Priscah Maruta, a 17-year-old resident of Kona clinic village Chief Musikavanhu, Chipinge. Maruta was searching for her boyfriend, Webster Nkomonde, at Birchenough Bridge and sought assistance from the now deceased, a tout at Musharu, Birchenough Bridge Business Centre.

According to Maruta’s account, she shared her transportation challenges with the deceased, who then offered to pay her bus fare in exchange for sexual favors. The deceased reportedly paid three dollars to Peter Tafirenyika, the probox driver, for the agreed-upon transaction. The duo boarded the probox and engaged in sexual intercourse near Birchenough Bridge Hotel, during which the deceased collapsed and became unconscious.

Maruta, in a state of panic, attempted to revive the now deceased but received no response. Fearing the consequences, she left the unconscious man and returned to Musharu Bus Terminus, where she later met her boyfriend.

Upon further investigation, no foreign objects were found at the scene, and Maruta, the last person to see the deceased alive, was brought in for an interview. She led the police to the location where the sexual encounter occurred, confirming the events that transpired before the man’s collapse.

The deceased’s body is currently at Birchenough Bridge Hospital Mortuary as authorities continue their inquiries into the circumstances surrounding this perplexing incident. The community awaits further updates as the police work to unravel the mystery behind this untimely death.

Hopewell Contradicts Self Multiple Times While Claiming UK Embassy Cleared Him Over Money Laundering

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | The controversial activist, Hopewell Chin’ono (HC), contradicted himself multiple times during a Sunday night spaces engagement he hosted with UK-based online presenter Gerald Belts (GB).

In less than 15 minutes, he claimed he would not insult those he disagrees with, yet in the same breath, he used terms like “bullshit” to respond to a request for the name of a UK lender he claimed financed his first property with a GBP 50,000 loan in the form of a sports car. Rather than simply revealing the funder’s name, Chin’ono hurled a barrage of insults, dismissing the request as nonsensical.

Additionally, Chin’ono contradicted a letter from a UK embassy staff member addressing a political accusation by falsely claiming it was a standard criminal records check. He asserted that the letter, authored by a secretary responsible for political communications, stated he “is not a fugitive from justice,” when in fact the letter contained no such wording. It related to allegations of his political persecution. The document mentions Hopewell Chin’ono’s new identity, under which he has visited the UK. This identity was one of many assumed by deported Zimbabweans who exploited the vacuum created by changes to the DNA system after the September 11, 2001 bombings. Investigations reveal that during the period of his unexplained property acquisitions, Chin’ono operated under a different name before his sudden relocation to Zimbabwe.

In December, Chin’ono who has failed proceeds of crime tests as the one done by his former employer, Geoff Nyarota,  changed his own story over the source of his funds.

But, we shouldn’t get to a point where we can’t engage with each other.

GB: Right. And also, I have received so many questions I am not realising now I have received so many questions.

HC: No, no, please please, these questions, I’m ready to answer them. We don’t do this every day.

GB: Let me, I want to acknowledge the people that I have added, I will come to you Gari. There’s a question here that says ask when he last spoke with Chamisa was it way before the leaked audios that is one question and then another one is saying.

Hopewell Chinono(HC): I want to address the issue of the audio, which Simba-Chikanza of ZimEye keeps bringing out. That is, that that.

GB: On top of that is there is the question of the safe houses as well, reported that you reported to Chiwenga, you know, if you can put that together.

Hopewell Chin’ono (HC) Yes, yes yes, that question that’s a ghost account of Simba-Chikanza asking you and I am happy to answer, it let me answer it. Aah, the first question is that Simba knows very well that those audios were doctored. Ah. They don’t represent a conversation that happened; but the most important thing is that I think I hope I will be able to look for it, but anyway, what Simba keeps posting that I exposed people it’s a lie. The what happened was that I was taken to have a conversation in 2018 which I publicly talked about. In that conversation there was the British ambassador, the EUAmbassador, a Congolese businessman called Kala Mpinga, vice president Chiwenga, and then we were taken to the president of the country, Emmerson Mnangagwa. It had nothing with all this bullshit that Simba posts about. Simba has gone to a point of asking me to account for a car that I drove 30 years ago, LAUGH LAUGH LAUGH, I assume that people have common sense you know. Eeh. And and and, and, so, in that regard I was never going to answer all this nonsense uncle Ged, but, you know if you ask me to account, eeh for a car that I pot, bought 30 years ago because you hate me so much, you don’t like me you know, you hate me so much. Eeh I have more money in my current account than all those figures that he talks about and that money I can account for it, so I think it’s very petty as Zimbabweans to really, you know, imagine if I get into an argument with Kuda Musasiwa over something else, and then I start asking him to account for a car that he bought 30 years ago.

I start asking him to account for a house. You know I’ve been asked to account for my house more than 1000 times ago, more than a thousand times I mean, not ago, eeh, the British embassy has had to issue a public statement that I am not a fugitive from justice but that is how petty Zimbabweans are. Erin, I will post it right away. The British embassy has had to issue a statement to say “Hopewell Chinono is not a fugitive from justice in Britain,” but in a country that has no single working radiotherapy machine that has no clean drinking water that has no decent roads, that has no pensions for its pensioners, every day Simba-Chikanza tweets about the sports car that I drove and he lies about how I am a fugitive from justice and all that it’s a shame; it’s a shame because it shows the rest of the world; I want to tell you Uncle Ged, I want to tell you about how this is so shameful. I was invited for coffee, aah in PARKTOWN NORTH in Johannesburg by Geoff, who is the correspondent of the Canadian Globe, aaah in Johannesburg and he said to me, you know, aah, let’s have drinks, aah, Geoff York and he said to me this guy keeps writing about you. What’s going on? Is everything okay? But this is how the rest of the world sees us, as a people. You know, you are chasing after a 52 year old guy and you asking him to account for how he bought a house for 60,000 in Chisipite. You’re chasing after a 52 year old guy and you’re asking him to account how he bought a Toyota Supra in 1996 and today is 2024. I have never worked for Govt. I don’t earn public funds. I have never stolen anything from the state but a whole supposedly website spends two years chasing after a guy asking him; what if I tell you that I have £3 million in my account today, that I have worked for that I can account for that has been paid into that account by British institutions like ITV news that I have worked for and you’re asking me about £50,000 when I have £3 million in my account; when I live in a 4 million eh, eh Rand house in Johannesburg; when I live in a US$600,000 house in Harare and the whole struggle is reduced to talking about how a man bought a car worth US$50,000 or pounds 30 years ago ; It just shows how petty we are. It shows how.

GB: But, eh, why don’t you engage him in that aspect in a conversation?

HC: no no no no I’m never going to do that uncle Ged.

GB: because we are now being caught in a crossfire no no I think what we need to do. I think

GB: what we need to do so we host both of you?

HC: no no no no I think what we need to do a sensible people is to focus on sensitive sensible issues. If we start degenerating into, into these stupid things, then there is no reason why foreigners have to respect us because if we can’t respect ourselves, why do we expect strangers to respect us?

GB: right, so on that issue your clarification when it comes to those issues that he has raised…?

HC: No there is no clarification. I just said, I just said things in passing. I don’t owe that guy anything, as I said to you, I am not a public figure. I have more money than he talks about. I have no obligation to tell anyone how I have earned that money I have never worked for Govt. I’ve worked my whole life for private media. You know who I have worked for. If you think that what I have I didn’t earn it to go to ITV news. Those are my employers. Those are the people that were paying me money if you think that I did not earn what I have got like I live in a nice house and I don’t deserve it go to ITV news. Those are my employers, they say it publicly that they employed me. HC: I have no reason to apologise to my brother Nelson because everything I said was based on facts, and eeeh, what that person needs to do is to come and say to me what you said about Nelson or about CCC on this particular instance is wrong and here are the facts.

I have no reason to apologise to politicians. I never apologise to politicians. Nelson Chamisa and all the other politicians and I talk to all of them. Today today today, eeh, eeh, I went to have my haircut and and the person who told me where I could get my hair cut was Saviour Kasukuwere I am in Johannesburg at the moment. And, and and I talk to all of them and I don’t hide that.

I talk to Saviour Kasukuwere, I talk to Welshman , I talk to Nelson Chamisa, I talk to Nkosana Moyo. Nkosana Moyo has been to my home in Zimbabwe , has been to my home in Johannesburg. These are my brothers these are my sisters.

I was speaking to Tadini’s president, Valerio, she sent a message to say I owe her a response. I speak to everyone these are Zimbabweans. You know we should not intimidate each other by saying, don’t talk to so and so, don’t talk to so-and-so because our resolutions only come from all of us to put together. This idea, politicians lie to you.

They say don’t talk to someone so but they talk to so, so I know it so President Nelson Chamisa will never say to me. Don’t talk to so and so but because he is the guy who told me to talk to everybody. So why shouldn’t I talk to? If you come to South Africa you see President Raposa talking to Julius Malema you will see him talking to Hellen Ziller. You will see him talk to
Steenhuisen. Why shouldn’t I not to talk to my brothers and sisters? I will talk to Tadini. I will talk to Makomborero. I will talk to Nelson. I will talk to even to ED. I will talk to him, I have no problem. You see, our lack. I think we need to introduce politics as a subject at high school, so that people understand what it involves. If you go to ENGLAND today, this animosity does not exist. Tendai Biti Convicted, Faces Jail

By Political Reporter-Tendai Biti, the rotational acting President of the Citizens Coalition for Change, has been found guilty of verbally assaulting Russian national and investor Tatiana Aleshina in 2020.

Biti, a lawyer by profession, staunchly denied the allegations, contending that the charges against him did not constitute a criminal offence.

The conviction stemmed from an incident at the Harare Magistrates Court, where a heated exchange of words occurred between Biti and Aleshina.

According to a report by NewZimbabwe.com, Aleshina, who was a witness in criminal cases, claimed that she and her colleague at Pokugara Properties (Private) Limited were victims of Biti’s unsolicited verbal abuse and assaults, describing them as gross professional misconduct. Aleshina detailed the incident, stating:
“While attending to these matters at Harare Magistrates’ Court, I and my colleague…have been victims of Mr. Biti’s unsolicited verbal abuse and assaults which amount to gross professional misconduct.

It was clear to all people who were in the court gallery that Mr. Biti took delight not only in verbally abusing me but in trying to intimidate me…”
In her complaint, Aleshina highlighted Biti’s attempts to belittle her as a woman and a foreigner, alleging a violation of her rights. She claimed that Biti’s conduct, including swearing, shouting, and pointing at her face, constituted a clear act of verbal assault.

Harare magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti, presiding over the case, emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that individuals cannot be allowed to freely hurl derogatory terms at each other. She noted:
“What remains critical is that she went to receive medication. She was prescribed some medication although she refused to be admitted. It is not in dispute that the accused and complainant had a verbal altercation on the day in question and the accused called the complainant a stupid idiot.”

Magistrate Muchuchuti acknowledged the evidence presented, emphasizing that Biti’s actions were corroborated by multiple credible witnesses.

She concluded that Biti’s guilt had been established and stated:
“For those reasons, I find the accused person guilty.”
Biti is scheduled to be sentenced at 10 AM on
Tuesday, facing the prospect of a fine, a prison term of up to 10 years, or a combination of both. His legal representative, Alec Muchadehama, has expressed the intention to appeal the conviction.

Commercial banks’ reserve ratios were raised, and interest rates saw an upward adjustment earlier this month.

These measures were strategically deployed to counteract a decline in the Kwacha, which had been contributing to an uptick in inflation.

Commenting on this stellar performance, Danny Greef, Co-Head of Africa at research firm ETM Analytics, remarked, “The Kwacha’s performance this year has been remarkable.” Analysts are quick to note, however, that the sustainability of the Kwacha’s strengthening hinges on the nation’s ability to attract more foreign investment.

Zambian officials have identified the prolonged debt restructuring, now entering its fourth year, as a significant impediment to foreign investment and a weakening force on the Kwacha.

Despite governmental efforts to stimulate the sector, copper production—the primary foreign exchange earner for Zambia—has also experienced a decline.
Addressing these challenges at a recent public forum, Bank of Zambia governor Denny Kalyalya stated, “The measures that we have taken… are meant to stem some of the demand, which we thought was excessive as we anticipate supply, which mainly comes from the mining sector.”

Although the Kwacha witnessed a marginal weakening last week, slipping from 22.5 to $1, it remained resilient, boasting a strength exceeding 20% compared to the record low of 27.23 recorded on February 6.

The Zimbabwean musician BaTroy crashed a Toyota Aqua gifted to him by Chivhayo.

Details about the accident are still sketchy, and it remains uncertain whether the singer was present in the car at the time of the accident or if he sustained any injuries.
However, he took to social media to share images of his severely damaged car. In one of his posts, he expressed his sorrow over the loss of his car, which, based on the picture he shared, appears to be extensively damaged.

This accident came barely a month after wealthy businessman Wicknell Chivayo bought him the car.
In January, BaTroy made a public plea to Wicknell Chivayo to buy him a car.
In a video recorded during his commute on public transport, BaTroy humbly requested the businessman’s help, citing the undignified nature of his current mode of transportation.
Responding to the video, Wicknell said he was touched by the BaTroy’s plea. He disclosed that he was going to buy him an Aqua Toyota.

Speaking inside Chikurubi Maximum Prison, Katsande said he failed to pay someone his money and will serve until June if he fails to pay the money.

I am in prison because i failed to pay someone his money, so i need to pay that person his money, if i fail to pay him, i will be released on the 12th of June,” said Katsande.

Katsande is not a stranger to controversy as he dragged before the Harare Magistrates court for violating copyrights.

He was sentenced to two years in jail for stealing the song that gained him fame, from a fellow church member.

The court also banned the chart topping track from getting airplay after finding Katsande’s defence not convincing

In a disturbing turn of events, Emmanuel Muzeza (40) is facing charges of maliciously damaging property after allegedly setting fire to his former sister-in-law’s vehicle in a vengeful act. Appearing before Harare regional magistrate Mr. Stanford Mambanje, Muzeza was remanded in custody to March 7th as investigations continue.

The feud between Muzeza and Ms. Nelliah Mandlokuwa (38) escalated to a dangerous level, stemming from Muzeza’s belief that Mandlokuwa played a role in his divorce from her younger sister. Tensions simmered between the two, reaching a boiling point when Muzeza, accompanied by accomplices Tafadzwa and Tichaona, purportedly executed a plan to seek revenge.

Reports indicate that on February 4th, in the dead of night, the trio allegedly armed themselves with a 2-liter container of petrol and unknown explosive material before proceeding to Mandlokuwa’s residence. With malicious intent, they set fire to her Nissan AD van, parked dangerously close to her bedroom window, causing extensive damage valued at US$6,500.

Mandlokuwa and her husband narrowly escaped harm as the flames threatened to engulf their home, forcing them to flee for safety. Shocked and shaken, Mandlokuwa recounts hearing a loud explosion before witnessing her car ablaze through the window.

Authorities were able to trace Muzeza’s movements through his mobile phone records, revealing discrepancies in his alibi. Despite purportedly being in Shurugwi, Muzeza’s phone signals placed him near the scene of the crime in Harare, leading to his arrest on February 21st.

Instead of responding, Karembera posted pictures of himself in blue colours demonstrating his undying loyalty to his leader, Nelson Chamisa.

Mutoko Man Fatally Assaults Uncle Over Witchcraft

In a sad incident, a 36-year-old Mutoko man was dragged to court after he fatally assaulted his uncle over witchcraft allegations.

Sigareta Nyamadzi was not asked to plead to a murder charge before Mutoko magistrate Chiedza Gatsi.

Gatsi remanded Nyamadzi in custody to March 8 and advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.

The state led by Nathan Majuru alleged on February 22 at Nyamadzi village, chief Chimoyo in Mutoko the suspect approached the now deceased Peter Nyamadzi and accused hm of being a wizard.

The angry suspect picked a stone and struck Peter on the head.

Peter fell down and the suspect picked a hoe and struck him twice on the head.

He further took a machete and struck him twice again there by killing him on the spot.

A police report was filed leading to the arrest of the suspect.

The Zimbabwean environmental rights group, PAZ (People Against Litter), is calling upon the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) and the City of Harare to take immediate action to address the issue.

The burning of refuse at the dump, which originates from vendors, commuters, residents, and city clean-ups, is causing significant air pollution and releasing harmful toxins into the surrounding environment. Residents living westward of the dump, along Seke Road/Chaminuka Street in Majorburg, and commuters using the termini are particularly affected by the smoke.

“We are deeply concerned about the health risks associated with this constant smoke,” said a spokesperson for PAZ. “The toxic pollutants being released into the air can have serious consequences for respiratory health, especially for vulnerable groups like children and the elderly.”

PAZ is urging the City of Harare and EMA to take the following actions:

  • Extinguish the fire: Immediate steps need to be taken to extinguish the fire currently burning at the dumpsite.
  • Implement consistent refuse collection: Regular and frequent collection of refuse is crucial to prevent the build-up of waste that leads to burning.

“We urge the relevant authorities, particularly the City of Harare and EMA, to heed this call and take immediate action to address this public health and environmental concern,” concluded the PAZ spokesperson.

The BCC’s comprehensive report indicates the highest-valued residential property in the city stands at US$115,000, considerably below the wealth tax threshold. Army To Get Special Lessons From Belarus

Belarus has pledged to further strengthen bilateral ties with Zimbabwe, through sharing its military expertise and skills with the country’s defence sector.

Emerging from a meeting with Zimbabwe’s Defence Minster in Harare this Friday, Belarus Minister of State Authority for Military Industry, Honourable Dimitriv Pantus said skills transfer will be done within the shortest possible time.

Honourable Dimitriv Pantus said, “We discussed several key areas, particularly looking at how we can assist with skills transfer and support the military sector with the latest and modern technology. We are looking to implement in the very shortest time.”

If successfully implemented, the cooperation will be a critical pedestal to bolster security in the country, especially porous border points.

“We are happy to be exploring such ventures which help us better prepare against external threats. We have been under sanctions for a long time and this was having negative impacts on our preparedness against any security threats. But if we get such assistance, this will be very critical to enhance our military systems and address the challenge of porous border points,” said Honourable Muchinguri-Kashiri.

President Hage Geingob Burial Set For Sunday

MEMORIAL services are being held across Namibia as the Southern African country prepares for the burial of the late President, Dr Hage Geingob on Sunday.

The nation of Namibia was plunged into mourning after the death of its revered leader on the 4th of February.

A drive around the capital Windhoek revealed the somber mood that has engulfed the Southern African nation.

Billboards with messages bidding farewell to Dr Geingob remind visitors and citizens of the late President.

A memorial service was held Thursday evening by the ruling SWAPO party, where those who attended described President Geingob as simply the best, reflecting on his dedication to uplifting the lives of ordinary people.

“He was just the best, he was concerned about making the lives of ordinary people improved,” said one of the nationals.

Another added, “He would dance with us as the youth. He was just a good leader, he brought unity amongst the people .”

Another memorial service will be held at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek this Saturday, with more than 20 heads of state expected to attend.

The event will be followed by the burial ceremony on Sunday at the Heroes Acre.

Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Namibia, Her Excellency Melody Chaurura told ZBC News that President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the First Lady, Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa are expected to attend the funeral.

“About 27 delegations are expected, with confirmations still coming through. 20 heads of state and government. We are expecting the President to arrive on the 24th and we expect he will be accompanied by Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa,” she said.

She added, “It’s important for the President to attend. The two revolutionary parties share ties, the two countries have continued to solidify relations. There is a lot that is going on.”

Meanwhile, a procession with the remains of the late President has been held in Windhoek this Friday.

The procession started from the State House and went through several routes which include Laurent Desire Kabila Street, Robert Mugabe Avenue, Jan Jonker Street and Rehobother Rd.

The procession also passed through the Casa Rosalia, the late Namibian President’s private residence.

The procession ended at the Parliament Gardens where his body will lie in state ahead of burial on Sunday.

Girlfriend Murders Married Boyfriend

By Crime & Courts Reporter – A 40-year-old Chitungwiza woman, Sharon Chidamba, is facing accusations of murdering her married boyfriend, Edward Chakanetsa, who tragically lost his life at her residence on Christmas Day last year. 

The shocking incident has taken a sinister turn, revealing a complex tale of a deadly dispute.

Chidamba made her appearance at the Chitungwiza Magistrates’ Court, where she was granted bail set at US$100. 

The State alleges that the fatal altercation transpired after a heated disagreement between Chidamba and Chakanetsa, triggered by a festive beer session.

The prosecution asserts that Chidamba attacked Chakanetsa with an unidentified object, causing a fractured skull that ultimately proved fatal. 

The circumstances leading up to the incident are murky, with Chidamba under suspicion due to conflicting statements given to Chakanetsa’s relatives, who grew suspicious of foul play.

In one version of events, Chidamba claimed that Chakanetsa had ingested rat poison, rushing him to a local hospital where he succumbed to the toxicity. 

However, discrepancies emerged following the post-mortem results, which indicated that Chakanetsa’s demise resulted from a blunt force trauma rather than poison.

Chidamba was taken into custody on January 6, following mounting doubts and the family’s decision to report the case to the police.

 As the legal proceedings unfold, Chidamba is set to return to court, while police investigations into the murder continue.

Supreme Court Nullifies Welshman Ncube Mabvazuva Grub

If the Supreme Court of Zimbabwe nullified the MDC Alliance Election Results of 2019 in 2020, on what legal ground can people claim to be CCC Vice-Presidents.

Dear Editor,

Following the resignation of Advocate Nelson Chamisa as CCC President towards the end of January 2024, two CCC leadership camps have emerged – one which will be co-chaired by Professor Welshman Ncube, Advocate Tendai Biti and Lynette Kerenyi-Kore, according to information given at a press conference by Advocate Jacob Mafume, which is collaborated by Professor Welshman Ncube in subsequent media interviews he had after the Mafume Press Conference. The other faction is led by Mr. Jameson Timba, which justifies its authenticity through the argument that the CCC is managed through the Citizen National Assembly.

My recollection of the Supreme Court Judgement of 2020 which gave control of the MDC to Dr. Khupe is that it confirmed the May 2019 decision of the High Court that Dr. Tsvangirai’s appointment in July 2016 of Advocate Chamisa and Engineer Mudzuri as additional Deputy President was in breach of the MDC Constitution and therefore null and void; that the appointment of Advocate Chamisa as Acting President of the MDC by the party’s National Council after Mr. Tsvangirai’s death in February 2018 and his subsequent election as President of MDC were likewise null and void. That would also mean that every other position elected at the 2019 Congress and all the structures endorsed by that Congress are null and void.

If the positions elected at Gweru were null and void, the persons elected into those positions can therefore not claim to be in the same positions in the CCC. That does not mean that Professor Ncube, Advocate Biti, Karenyi-Kore and Mafume faction are not entitled to claim leadership as they are part of the CCC, just as the Timba lead faction, but to claim leadership basing the argument on positions that were nullified by a court of law does not sound right, so these colleagues have started on the wrong footing, and the sooner they realise that and find an alternative justification for their claim to leadership may be the best thing for them to do.

The truth of the matter is that there are factions that have been created following the resignation of Advocate Chamisa. In my view, the CCC was a new party, which should not have carried over the structures that were declared null and void by a court of law. While it took two years for the nullified Gweru Congress leadership to admit the court ruling and form something new, they finally did. I recollect that when members of the public complained that Professor Ncube was not speaking against Tshabangu’s recall of legislators, Professor Ncube asked in what capacity he was expected to comment as he did not have a position in the party, so for Professor Ncube to now claim a leadership position makes the general public question his integrity.

If it is true that the Citizens National Assembly was the way decisions were made in the CCC, Timba’s team has a good argument.

Unfortunatelly for Tshabangu, he was neither the Secretary-General after the 2019 Congress, nor was he part of the Citizens National Assemly after the formation of the CCC.

I encourage the factions to reflect deeply on the issues I have raised and find a way forward. If they cannot agree on things, then they should agree to part ways amicably as happened in 2005, when people chose to belong where they felt more aligned to without the fear of being recalled from parliament. I remember the likes of Blessing Chebundo initially going with the Gibson Sibanda lead faction, only to change positions and went with the faction lead by the late Dr. Tsvangirai later, taking along his parliamentary seat with him in the process.

Chivayo, associated with the ZANU PF party, had been gifting top-of-the-range vehicles to various individuals, directing them to Victor Matiyenga’s Exquisite Cars Dealership for collection. This pattern of generosity inadvertently thrust Matiyenga into the limelight and led to the creation of an X account under his name, which became a source of controversy.

While investigators probe suggestives of money laundering, Victor Matiyenga himself has spoken out against what he said was a misuse of his identity, emphasizing the negative impact on his reputation and business. “This unfortunate incident has forced me to take legal action to protect my name,” Matiyenga declared, highlighting the seriousness of the situation. The scheme took a sour turn when an offer made through the contentious X account to Karembera, implied he could receive a car in return for publicly renouncing his political leader, Nelson Chamisa.

Karembera’s response was a resolute show of support for Chamisa, a move that not only refused Chivayo’s perceived manipulation but also signaled a broader resistance against attempts to politicize philanthropy.

The X offer to Karembera has since disappeared overnight in a huge embarrassment to both Victor and Chivayo. Karembera’s stance serves as a sreminder of the potential for backlash when philanthropy is entangled with political motives. “These tactics will not deter us from our path,” Karembera stated, his loyalty unwavering amidst the unfolding drama

On Friday businessman, the “Victor” X account publicised a message saying Madzibaba WeShanduko (Godfrey Karembera) must travel to his offices to collect a car, but only after denouncing his leader, Nelson Chamisa. The temptation was huge, but Godfrey Karembera stood fort.  

Instead of responding, Karembera posted pictures of himself in blue colours demonstrating his undying loyalty to his leader, Nelson Chamisa.

Married Man Dies At Girlfriend’s House

By-A Chitungwiza woman is being accused of murdering her married boyfriend, who died at her house on Christmas Day last year.

Sharon Chidamba (40) appeared at the Chitungwiza Magistrates’ Court where she was granted US$100 bail.

The State said Chidamba was engaged in a dispute with the late Edward Chakanetsa after a beer drink.
Chidamba is believed to have attacked Chakanetsa with an unknown object leaving him with a fractured skull leading to his death.
Prior to her arrest on January 6, Chidamba was accused of giving conflicting statements to Chakanetsa’s relatives, who suspected foul play.
In one of her alleged accounts, Chidamba claimed Chakanetsa downed rat poison before she rushed him to a local hospital where he later died.
However, the family made a police report after post mortem results showed that Chakanetsa died from an attack by a blunt object.

Coltart Embarrasses Biti & Welshman, Backs Chamisa

By Political Reporter- Bulawayo Mayor David Coltart has exposed the former MDC and PDP members who hijacked the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party.

Welshman Ncube and Tendai Biti are the leaders of the MDC and PDP, who appointed themselves as rotating presidents of the CCC last week after frustrating Nelson Chamisa.

Coltart’s expose’ comes after Harare Mayor, Jacob Mafume, who claims to be the CCC’s spokesperson, said Coltart was the party’s Treasurer-General.

Mafume and his allies who include Welshman Ncube and Tendai Biti, purport to have revived the MDC Alliance structures elected by the 2019 Gweru Congress to run CCC.

Coltart, who was elected MDC Alliance Tresurer-General, was among the party’s former bigwigs who snubbed a recent meeting of CCC members who sought to revive the structures from the Gweru Congress.

Responding to an X user who had asked to know his position regarding the remarks made by Mafume, Coltart said he ceased being Treasurer General a long time ago. He said:

That is news to me. I ceased being Treasurer General ages ago. As I wrote in my statement recently I refuse to be drawn into any zero-sum game. The future of Zimbabwe depends on all genuine democrats finding each other and working jointly to defeat tyranny.

Commenting on Coltart’s stance, journalist and government critic Hopewell Chin’ono said opposition political activists must resolve their differences and work together. He wrote on X:

This is why Blessed Mhlanga’s question was important and relevant to the current opposition drama, 

@DavidColtart has rejected Jacob Mafume’s assertion that he is the current Treasurer-General.

This now leads to more questions that need to be asked, questions asking who else was named and yet is not part of the CCC leadership structure in the faction represented by Jacob Mafume as party spokesman.

As the man he has always been, @DavidColtart has maturely advised anyone opposed to ZANU-PF corrupt rule to not fight to kill each other.

He realises that these opposition fights have only one beneficiary, ZANU PF.

Controversial Preacher Uebert Angel’s Aide In Vehicle Smuggling Scandal

A Harare man arrested last year for smuggling two Ford Ranger vehicles and affixing them with number plates from the President’s Office is controversial prophet Uebert Angel’s aide.

Angel, the founder of Spirit Embassy, is President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Presidential Envoy and Ambassador at Large to Europe and the Americas (OPEAAL). 

Terrance Madiro was part of a syndicate that included Aleck Dzepatsva, Brian Matongo and Elvis Jieman that was involved in smuggling different types of high-end cars from South Africa.

They allegedly fraudulently acquired exempted number plates from the Office of the President and Cabinet to avoid paying customs duty as well as enabling free passage at tollgates and police roadblocks.

Madiro, whose case has been separated from his co-accused, will be back in court for trial on 10 April.

His co-accused are back in court on 10 March.

Madiro is accused of smuggling a white Ford Ranger vehicle double cab in 2020, chassis Number AFAPXXMJ2PHK28914.

He allegedly affixed registration number AFB 5575 belonging to the Fleet of Office of the President to the vehicle.

Madiro obtained the number plates from Brezhnev Mutambo who is believed to have been employed by the Department of the President’s Office. 

Madiro gave the car to his ex-wife Francisca Madiro for use in transporting their children to and from school.

He smuggled another Ford Raptor Ranger double cab in July 2023 from South Africa and fitted them with registration numbers, AGE 0461 from the Office of the President according to court papers.

Both vehicles were not found in the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority and Vehicle Registry databases.

Investigations by The Standard have proven that Madiro, who is listed in court papers as Sentrigo Security, is linked to Angel where he is identified as the chief protocol officer in the cleric’s office, according to the website for the Presidential Envoy and Ambassador at Large to Europe and the Americas.

A Facebook account under the name of Terrence Madiro was updated in 2014 with a picture of Angel and his wife, showing the close connections between the two.

Bill Antonio Signs New 3-Year Contract With Belgium Side KV Mechelen

Bill Antonio has signed a new contract at Belgian Pro side KV Mechelen.

Antonio’s two-year contract, which he signed when he joined the club from Dynamos in 2022, was set to expire at the end of the season.

His new deal will last until 2027, the same time his fellow teammate Munashe Garan’anga’s contract will also end.

A statement by the club confirmed the development, saying:

“Bill Antonio has signed a new contract until 2027 with an option for an extra year. The 21-year-old wing attacker has been convincing within the first team in recent weeks and is thus rewarded for his hard work.”

Antonio spent his first year at KV Mechelen Academy before finally breaking into the first team in recent months.

He has since becoming a regular a regular in the first XI, together with Garan’anga.

Speaking after the signing of his new contract, Bill said: “I had to adapt to football here. But I just kept working hard. I feel great with the club, my teammates and the supporters.

“My goal is to help the team move forward. It’s great that I can continue to do that in the Malinwa equipment in the coming years.”

Mechelen sporting director Tim Matthys added: “Bill still had an option in his contract that would allow him to stay with us for another 2 years, but that is not how we operate as a club.

“Bill has developed fantastically and is now showing what we had in mind for him. We can only be happy about that, and we want to reward him for that.”

Shock As Elderly, Youths Targeted In Zim’s Renewed Evictions And Displacements

By A Correspondent| Several elderly people, who are in their advanced age are among dozens of villagers, who are being prosecuted in Gwanda in Matabeleland South province, on charges of illegally occupying state land without lawful authority.

The 180 villagers, who include a nonagenarian, octogenarian, septuagenarians, sexagenarians and youths, were apprehended by Zimbabwe Republic Police officers on 7 February 2024 during a dragnet arrest and summarily charged with occupying gazetted land without lawful authority as defined in Section 3(1)(4) as read with Section 5 of the Gazetted Land Consequential Provisions.

Prosecutors alleged that the 180 villagers, who reside in Nyandeni community in Gwanda North in Matabeleland South province, unlawfully held, used or occupied land at Hollins Block Estate in Gwanda, which is gazetted land and without lawful authority.

Upon their arrest on 7 February 2024, the 180 villagers endured two nights in police detention and were only set free on 9 February 2024 after prosecutors declined to prosecute them when their lawyers Jabulani Mhlanga of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights and Mitchell Chigova of Mabhikwa and Partners Legal Practitioners, challenged the manner in which their arrest had been effected as falling short of the provisions of section 50 of the Constitution and the lack of documentary evidence, which informed the arrests as they were merely done to investigate than to prosecute.

The villagers were then summoned to appear at Gwanda Magistrates Court on 23 February 2024, where prosecutors filed an application seeking to formally place them on remand.

However, their lawyers challenged the prosecutors’ bid to place the 180 villagers on remand.

The court was yet to hand down its ruling on the state’s bid to place the villagers on remand by late Friday.

What Caused The Chegutu Market Fire?

By Farai D Hove | In a devastating incident at Chegutu Bus Terminus, a fire outbreak has obliterated eight market stalls, resulting in substantial financial losses for the stallholders involved. The blaze, which erupted around midnight on Tuesday, has left vendors in despair, with damages estimated nearly at US$50,000. The cause of the fire remains undetermined, adding to the distress of those affected. .

Stallholders, grappling with the sudden destruction of their livelihoods, are in dire need of support to resume operations. “We do not know how we are going to recover from this devastating blow. I lost an inventory worth about US$6500,” shared one of the vendors, highlighting the immediate impact on individuals who relied on the market for their income.

The fire’s intensity was such that it left nothing behind, consuming not only the wares but also the infrastructure, including the roofing material. Mr. Jealous Phiri, the Chairperson of the market, expressed his dismay, stating that the Chegutu Fire Brigade’s efforts were insufficient to curb the inferno’s wrath, leading to a total loss.

In response to the tragedy, Chegutu West legislator Cde Shakemore Timburwa visited the site to evaluate the damages and extend his support to the victims. “What we see here is painful, and we are here to see how best the affected families can be helped to recover,” Timburwa remarked. He emphasized the need for future protective measures, suggesting collaborations with insurance companies to develop tailored packages for vendors, ensuring their resilience against such calamities.

Livestock Thief Jailed

In a stark lesson for potential livestock thieves, a 36-year-old man from Grandville Farm, Zvishavane, received a hefty 54-year jail term for stealing 49 cattle in the Lalapanzi area near Gweru.

Magistrate Constance Mutandwa handed down the sentence to Tinodakufa Hove, who was found guilty on six counts of stock theft.According to the State, in July 2021, Benedict Mugari (81) of 22 Nantes Village, Gwanza, Lalapanzi, released his herd of cattle to graze.

On the same day, Hove allegedly stole seven cattle belonging to Mugari and transported them to Grandville Farm.

Hove faced additional charges for incidents on March 29, 2022, where he reportedly stole seven cattle from Methias Toperesu’s MZ4 Tokwe farm in Lalapanzi, and on June 24, 2022, where he again stole seven cattle from Nantes village, Gwanza, Lalapanzi, driving them to his farm.

Further offenses occurred on March 27, 2023, when Hove allegedly stole 12 cattle from Farm 4 Gwanza in Lalapanzi owned by Eliot Matumbu, and in the same month, when he reportedly took nine cattle from Nomsa Munyimi’s open grazing lands. Additionally, on July 25, 2023, Hove was accused of unlawfully taking seven cattle from Mushava Brenda’s kraal, transporting them from Gwanza West Village to the Gamwa area.

Delta Renews PSL Sponsorship

DELTA Corporation has cemented its relationship with domestic football after unveiling another three-year sponsorship package for the Premier Soccer League in Harare this Thursday.

The marriage that began in 1962 is set to go for yet another three years after Delta Corporation announced that it is going to add a sponsorship package of US$3 390 000 to the Premier Soccer League and that sponsorship will cover the next three years of the PSL competitions that is the Castle Lager PSL as well as the Chibuku Super Cup.

After completing a hat-trick of three-year sponsorship deals, Delta Corporation this Thursday announced the renewal of their domestic league sponsorship after unveiling a new deal with the Premier Soccer League, stretching to 2026.

The league’s principal sponsor has over the years’ consistently injected funds into the development of the local game.

“You have seen through various sponsorship packages like we introduced the Chibuku Super Cup and the Castle Challenge Cup how that has helped to uplift the sport and that has been really one of the major driving forces,” said Delta Corporation Limited Marketing Director, Irimayi Muzorewa.

Local football administrators are in awe at how relations between domestic football and Delta have stood the test of time.

PSL Chairperson, Farai Jere said, “Statistics don’t lie this is one of the biggest sponsorship packages it’s ranked number nine in Africa, the sponsorship we’re getting from Delta Beverages. So it’s something that we need to protect like an endangered species.”

“Delta Beverages have been with football for years even when we were players we always knew that Delta will stand by us.

I’m very happy that they remained true and continued to sponsor football. This has a lot of downstream effects for our local football,” said ZIFA Normalisation Committee Chairperson, Lincoln Mutasa.

As the 2024 Premiership season is set to kick off on the 24th of this month, the good news is that the partnership between Delta Corporation and the Premier Soccer League is going to continue and there is three more years that have been added to this partnership.
