How Sisi Mellie Pushed Google Numbers in Search for Livingstone
By Showbiz Repkrter | The below is a trail of events since early June which ZimEye displays how socialite Mellie Maisva, fondly known as Sisi Mellie, launched the search for the missing St Matthias student, Livingstone Sunhwe.
Sunhwe’s remains were discovered on Friday by a group comprising police officers and several socialites in an operation that began early June.
Upon receiving news of how Livingstone’s mother had spent more than 6 months searching for her son, the first thing Sisi Mellie did was to launch an arsenal in defence of the mother during a time when members of the public were accusing her of coming out too late.
‘Where were you all this while, and why did you spend 7 months silent?,’ a hoarde of angry netizens lashed at the hurt mother. This allegation instantly produced wild suggestions that Livingstone fled the country and is now in South Africa.
To this, Mellie stood her ground deciding to telephone the mother so she comes public. The sociallite sprung to Mai Livingstone’s defence by questioning the suggestions of parental neglect saying (video), ” “The troubles that have befallen this mother one of these days will be on your side, and you will be back here yourself seeking help,” she pleaded.
She continued saying, “instead of spreading rumours against the mum, it’s better to keep quiet…there are some who are saying, ‘where was this mum for the last 6 months?’
“Who told you that she was quiet? The fact that she came on social media after noticing this was her last option means she had been trying so many others including the police,” said Sisi Mellie.
Soon after this, Mellie went on to call for Mai Livingstone to the fore. Mellie was joined by popular Facebook hottie, Jackie Ngarande who narrated how they “got to the Anglican Church diocese’s St Matthias School and were told they don’t know where Livingstone Sunhwe is, the headmaster also said he doesn’t know where Livingstone is,” said Ngarande as she narrated her toil looking for the missing 19y old lad.
Soon after this, many other contributors called in.
In the coming weeks, Mellie continued repeating live programs exploring a series of different theories, and in the first 5 days, the push led to the world’s largest search engine, Google registering the Livingstone search at the 100 fusemax marker.(see the trends graph below)-
The noise continued going louder and louder leading to a search event led by Madam Boss (Tyra Chikocho) on Friday afternoon finally discovered the remains of a teenage boy believed to be Livingstone.

Monkeypox Signs And Symptoms
Monkeypox is a disease caused by the monkeypox virus. It is a viral zoonotic disease, meaning that it can spread from animals to humans. It can also spread between people
Symptoms of monkeypox typically include a fever, intense headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, swollen lymph nodes and a skin rash or lesions.
The rash usually begins within one to three days of the start of a fever. Lesions can be flat or slightly raised, filled with clear or yellowish fluid, and can then crust, dry up and fall off.
The number of lesions on one person can range from a few to several thousand. The rash tends to be concentrated on the face, palms of the hands and soles of the feet. They can also be found on the mouth, genitals and eyes.
Symptoms typically last between 2 to 4 weeks and go away on their own without treatment. If you think you have symptoms that could be monkeypox, seek advice from your health care provider.
Let them know if you have had close contact with someone who has suspected or confirmed monkeypox.
Monkeypox can spread to people when they come into physical contact with an infected animal. Animal hosts include rodents and primates. The risk of catching monkeypox from animals can be reduced by avoiding unprotected contact with wild animals, especially those that are sick or dead (including their meat and blood). In endemic countries where animals carry monkeypox, any foods containing animal meat or parts should be cooked thoroughly before eating.
People with monkeypox are infectious while they have symptoms (normally for between two and four weeks). You can catch monkeypox through close physical contact with someone who has symptoms. The rash, bodily fluids (such as fluid, pus or blood from skin lesions) and scabs are particularly infectious. Clothing, bedding, towels or objects like eating utensils/dishes that have been contaminated with the virus from contact with an infected person can also infect others.
Ulcers, lesions or sores in the mouth can also be infectious, meaning the virus can spread through saliva. People who closely interact with someone who is infectious, including health workers, household members and sexual partners are therefore at greater risk for infection.
The virus can also spread from someone who is pregnant to the foetus from the placenta, or from an infected parent to child during or after birth through skin-to-skin contact.
It is not clear whether people who do not have symptoms can spread the disease.

Justice Minister Trashes Diaspora Vote
By A Correspondent- In a development that is not so shocking, but typical with Zanu PF, the Minister of Justice, Ziyambi Ziyambi, reportedly scorned the diaspora vote call, saying that there were no external constituencies to justify the diaspora vote.
The same Ziyambi Ziyambi in 2019 revealed that an international study would be commissioned the following year to establish how other jurisdictions are implementing the diaspora vote, adding that they expected to complete the study by June of 2020.
And it has not just been Ziyambi Ziyambi who has spoken about the need for diaspora vote. In 2018 while addressing Zimbabweans living in the United States on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, President Emmerson Mnangagwa told them that Government was working on implementing the diaspora vote in 2023.
The need for the diaspora vote can never be overemphasized. Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi certainly needs to have his head examined for making such a stupid statement that the diaspora Zimbabweans cannot vote because none of Zimbabwe’s 210 electoral constituencies are located outside the country’s physical boarders.
Ziyambi Ziyambi reportedly said this while responding to questions in Parliament by opposition legislator James Sithole who wanted to know what plans government was implementing to allow diaspora citizens to vote. In response to Honourable Sithole’s question, Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi should simply have explained that we need to amend the constitution and the electoral act in order to enable the diaspora Zimbabweans to vote. He should have given an update on the research he said should have been carried in 2019.
Zimbabwe has facilitated diaspora voting by Mozambique citizens who are based in Zimbabwe, so Ziyambi Ziyambi must know that it is possible for citizens of any country to vote outside the country.
Many SADC countries including Botswana, Eswatini, Mozambique, Namibia and South Africa allow their citizens in the diaspora to vote. Zimbabwe should not been an exception.
Temba Mliswa has of late been saying that President Mnangagwa is a good leader who is being let down by his cabinet. It is Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi who promised a study on diaspora voting patterns as far back as 2019, so his statement proves beyond reasonable double that he is incompetent.
If the President was at all sincere about the Diaspora vote when he addressed Zimbabweans in 2018, and has heard of Ziyambi Ziyambi’s plans of 2019, he should have long fired him for incompetence.
Reports indicate that President Mnangagwa is merely posturing when he addresses audience outside Zimbabwe. President Mnangagwa is reported to have thrown the Speaker of Parliament under the bus during a recent Politburo meeting when he said “we are a party united by our shared ideology and common values.
All of us are subject to the collective wisdom of the party. The correct party line must be adhered to once a collective decision has been made. Personal views and opinions must never be smuggled to assume the status of being a party policy.
Does this mean that he alone has the freedom to talk about the diaspora vote when he addresses gatherings, as he did when he addressed Zimbabweans in New York in 2018?
Zanu PF is said to be afraid of the diaspora vote because it is said the party thinks that the diaspora population is mostly opposition supporters. But what is wrong with a certain party enjoying majority support in some locations?
Why has Zanu PF not barred elections in the urban areas where the electorate votes for Zanu PF. Why have opposition parties not said we should not have elections in rural areas because Zanu PF has more support in the rural areas? Besides, Zanu PF also has supporters and in some cases structures in the Diaspora.
Zanu PF has given the sanctions excuse for refusing the diaspora vote. Sanctions have been applied on some individuals in Zimbabwe. I understand that less than 100 people are on the sanctions list.
Zanu PF wants to make the world believe that they will not be able to campaign in the diaspora if the diaspora vote has to be granted, but with only less than 100 of its officials on the sanctions list, and with structures in the United States of America and in the United Kingdom, it has a lot of human resource to deploy for its campaign in the diaspora.
Secondly, the Zimbabweans in the diaspora are not the ones who have applied sanctions on Zimbabwe. They are, instead, contributing to the economy of Zimbabwe through the investments and remitences they make.
The Minister of Finance and many other government officials have acknowledged the contribution to the economy by the Zimbabweans in the diaspora. The diaspora elections are meant for Zimbabwean citizens living abroad, not the British or the Americans, so the excuse for sanctions for not implementing the diaspora vote is out of place.
If Zanu PF was really serious about linking sanctions to the diaspora vote, they would bar only the Zimbabweans living in countries which have applied sanctions on Zimbabwe not to vote.
The United Nations, the African Union and SADC must take note of the shenanigans by Zanu PF around the diaspora vote issue. They must persuade Zimbabwe not to sanction its citizens by denying them the diaspora vote.
Zimbabweans in the diaspora must also fight for their right to vote. A few have made efforts, but they should mobilise each other and speak with one voice. The fight for a diaspora vote has to be sustained.
Finally, President Mnangagwa must realise that he is ruining his reputation and that of his party by not stamping his authority. Zimbabweans and the world are now seeing him as a hypocrite who preaches the diaspora vote to the world, but says something different in closed doors in Zanu PF politibro meetings.

Harare Motorist Fined ZW$100k For Attempting To Bribe Cop With US$2
By A Correspondent- A Harare motorist has appeared in court following his arrest for attempting to bribe a police officer at a checkpoint.
Jameson Manjokota (23) of Southview in Harare was dragged before Chinhoyi magistrate Batsirai Madzingira facing bribery charges as defined in Section 170 (l)(b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act chapter 9:23.
Following his conviction, Manjokota was ordered to pay $100,000 fine, failure of which would result in spending seven months in prison.
He was given up to July 29, 2022 to pay the fine.
The state case was that on June 22 this year at the 114 kilometre peg along Harare-Chirundu highway, Manjokota, who is not an authorised public transport operator, was carrying three passengers aboard his Toyota Passo.
Upon being stopped at the police checkpoint and requested to produce documents permitting him to carry passengers, Manjokota offered a police officer, Tapiwanashe Chikava, US$2 so he could let him go scot-free.
The cop took the money before immediately arresting the motorist, who was found guilty of “offering a gift or consideration to an agent who is an employee of Zimbabwe Republic Police as an inducement or reward for not doing an act in relation to Principal’s affairs or business.”
In a related matter, Grashan Mandaza (33) of Coldstream, Chinhoyi appeared before the same court facing similar charges after offering the same cop US$10.
Mandaza was stopped at the said roadblock and asked to produce a permit authorising him to operate a public service vehicle and failed.
He was carrying four passengers in his Honda Fit.
Mandaza also has up to July month-end to pay ZW$100 000 or languish in prison for seven months.
Clever Nyapfani prosecuted both matters.

Employees Want Respect From Their Employer
NEWS RELEASE
28 June 2022
What employees value most is respect, according to occupational psychologist Memory Nguwi. Also important are supportive leadership and leaders who live the organisation’s core values, he said.
He told participants in a two-day Chartered Governance and Accountancy Institute in Zimbabwe Winter School in Harare last Thursday that this was the finding of a survey on the culture elements most important to employees.
Another study showed there were few differences between different generations in terms of work performance.
Psychological safety, by which was meant employees feeling free to voice their opinions in workplace meetings and question management decisions or practices, was important, he said.
Often employees did not feel safe enough to speak freely in meetings, feeling it was safer to keep quiet or simply agree with their boss.
“When fear is at the core of your operations, your team members will give you their hands but never their hearts and minds.
“Good leaders create an environment where people can be themselves and where it is very safe to speak out and challenge issues,” he said.
“If you want people to follow you, you must respect them,” he added.
He said critical thinking was important but emphasised it should always be backed up with facts.
The winter school was well attended and stimulating, with presenters providing different perspectives on accounting and governance issues.
South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA) executive Rashied Small, who made his presentation virtually, said he doubted that anyone realised what an important role accountants play in a country. It had been found that in the fastest growing economies it was accountants rather than the government that was driving the economy, he said.
Accountants not only had a responsibility to their client but had to be accountable to the public.
“If you have to choose between the client and the public interest, the public interest must take priority,” Mr Small said.
“If you are not happy about certain information, you have a responsibility to investigate whether there has been any fraud or corruption,” he said.
With technology taking over some of the accounting functions, digital proficiency was important. The accounting profession was moving towards an advisory function, he said. Qualitative and non-financial information required integrated thinking.
Medirite Healthcare managing director Mugove Chideme shared his own experience in building a business. His first failed business venture taught him the importance of not using working capital to purchase expensive cars and of making profits before purchasing such cars.
He learnt from this experience. His current business is one of the major suppliers of healthcare products in the health sector.
He attributed his eventual success to having a passion for his business and daring to dream.
“Transform problems into opportunities,” he said. “For example, if electricity is always unavailable, look at how you can import solar products for power.”
July28 managing director Jackie Hussein explained the Metaverse and Web 3.0 concepts to winter school participants on Friday.
The metaverse would take working from home and virtual participation in meetings a step further by allowing one to interact with others, with an image of oneself and others interacting making it seem as if one was actually present with them in the office, a bar or anywhere else.
“It sounds far-fetched. The technology for the metaverse is still evolving and in many cases is already here,” she said.
Web 3.0 would give users control over their own data, unlike the present situation where others access a people’s data and use it without their permission.
Sabi Mines finance executive Alec Jemwa gave an insight into how to go about a forensic audit. Such an audit was carried out where there were suspicions of fraud. Its purpose was to establish whether there was such fraud and, if there was, to obtain evidence of it that would enable those concerned to be prosecuted.
It was an investigative process, he said, requiring investigative skills that were not required for a standard audit.
He suggested that the reason many forensic audits do not end up in a prosecution is that some of those conducting forensic auditing lacked the necessary investigative skills.
Another problem was that the person responsible for the fraud might be the one the report had to be presented to.
“Your report may go to the person who engages you, who may be the perpetrator,” he said.

UHURU Valencia Calls For Justice On The Massacre Of Africans At Melilla Border
Video footage has emerged and is circulating on social media of the massacre of
hundreds of Africans at the Melilla border.
On June 24 the world woke up to the horror of extreme police brutality by the Spanish and
Moroccan forces. Some estimates say 47 young people died and more than 100 people
transferred to local hospitals in extremely serious conditions.
However, from the body count, based on social media video footage captured at the scene, it appears over 100 dead. Police were also seen beating injured survivors with metal objects.
It appears that all the casualties were Africans fleeing war torn areas such as Sudan and seeking international protection due to the conflicts in their country.
By contrast the world has witnessed an outpouring of assistance to Ukrainian victims of the Ukraine Russia war whilst Africans are massacred rather than being allowed refuge.
Organizations such as Uhuru Valencia have totally condemned the incident and together with other associations are requesting “the opening of a serious investigation” to determine the circumstances of this atrocity and the guilty personnel prosecuted.
UHURU Valencia are calling on Africans living in Valencia to join their demonstration taking place today, Sunday, June 26 at 7:00 p.m. at Plaza Pinazos in front of the Government building.
This atrocity cannot remain unpunished under any circumstances and all political actors will have to take responsibility. This dismissive and abusive treatment of African people has to stop!! We demand to hear the voices of condemnation from all African countries and all countries desiring to do business with Africa.
It is not acceptable for Africans to be brutalized and murdered in this inhumane way at the hands of the same authorities who are supposed to be upholding human rights. The world courts and humanity must put a stop to it.
We stand with all the families who have lost loved ones in this incident in calling for an
investigation to assess to what extent the police and armed forces were directly or indirectly responsible for some of these deaths and mistreatment of the dying and wounded!!
The voices all migrants must be heard. Enough of the differentiated treatment of people seeking refuge based on colour.
We send our condolences to the entire Black African community of which we are a part and call on all the media and associations to join in the condemnation and support the call for an immediate investigation and firm action against all those responsible.
Video footage of the harrowing treatment and horror available on request.

Teachers Flee School Over Goblins
By A Correspondent- Teachers at a school in Matabeleland North’s Bubi district have fled from the school after they were sexually attacked by mysterious things believed by locals to be goblins.
Majiji Primary School’s development committee chairperson (DCC) John Sibanda told Southern Eye that a prophet from an Apostolic sect was invited to perform a cleansing ritual at the school which has virtually shut down.
Sibanda said:
Unfortunately, the results did not satisfy the community members after the situation got worse. A meeting was held and it was decided that those with spiritual powers should be called in to assist remove the goblins.
Madzibaba visited the school last week and performed his magic, unfortunately, the ceremony did not yield the desired results because the abuse by goblins has escalated even more.
Sibanda said another meeting was held last week with different stakeholders at the school, which included village heads, the councillor and parents.
He said parents of learners at the school were fuming saying Madzibaba failed to remove the goblins. Added Sibanda:
He only captured a small snake from a male teacher’s cottage. The community now claim that the captured snake is the same as other snakes that are usually found at Majiji and other surrounding communities in Mbembeswana.
The school is now empty because lessons have been disturbed for a full week after teachers left to flee the goblins. The female teachers who were terrorised by the goblins came back last Sunday, but complained that the situation has actually gotten worse. They did not sleep last night.
Sibanda said different prophets were asked to assist, but only Madzibaba turned up.
Ward 4 councillor Danisa Siwela said more spiritual healers are needed to assist the school.
Villagers told Southern Eye that the owners of the goblins must be exposed.
“Move On And Forget About Betrayers in Love,” says Sifelilizwe “Fair” Shumba
….as rebranded “ Usamunamate” is thrown into the music market
Review by Tinashe Gumbo | After 21 years, Usamunamate resurrects.
As “Musorobhangu” album is still wreaking havoc on the national radio stations; YouTube and in the streets of Zimbabwe and the surrounding countries, Sifelilizwe Shumba and the Peps Kings have generously thrown back “Usamunamate”. Those who closely follow the Peps Kings Music, will remember the Unovhaira Nei (2000) album which carried the hit song, Usamunamate Haasi Gotwe Renyika.
I particularly vividly remember the song myself, as we played it in “Bagdad” Hostels at the University of Zimbabwe with my colleagues from Mberengwa, Tavonga Chipembere, Forget Mutemba and Masara Masara of Chivi. We were in our second year at the institution. Twenty-one years later, the rebranded Usamunamate song is back as a scotching “single”. In this short piece, I try to share my subjective interpretation of the song.
A few lines from Usamunamate
On 23 June 2022, I received a call from Shumba indicating that the Peps Kings have a new one from the oven. He shared with me the song as he always does, before it became public. I played it once, twice, and by the third time, I had been convinced that indeed, this is an “old but very new Usamunamate”. The voices, the guitars (lead, rhythm and bass) and the drums are now well arranged. Yes, I enjoyed the song back then in 2000, but certainly, the current version is a marvel to listen to.
I still felt the System (Fanuel) Tazvida flavor in the rebranded project. The Peps Kings have always worked hard to fill the gap left by the late great Tazvida of the Chazezeza Challengers (this is my subjective argument). Let me remind the audience of the central lines in the song:
Usamunamate uyooo x2; Haasi gotwe renyika x2; Ungazomupa manyemweee x2; Rega zviende izvooo x2; Hona imhepo yenyikaaa x2; Inotopfuura nenyikaaa x2; Inga nyika izere iyooo x2; Nevasikana vakanakaaa x2;….. Nevakomana vakatsvindaaa x2; Uchazochema mangwanaaa x2; Uchazodemba mangwana iweee x2;………; Awhwihwihwo! Peps Kings! From Mberengwa with Love!; …Ukandikanya ndodiniko dhiaaa x2; Ukandikanya ndoita Seiko iniii x2; ……
In some few lines as shown above, Shumba reminds his audience of his beloved community of Mberengwa. This has been his trade mark. He always makes sure that the word “Mberengwa” finds its way into all his projects and the idea has found favor with his home boys and girls from that community.
My Reading of Shumba’s Message
For me, Shumba comes in to console victims of betrayal in love relationships. He urges them to move on and forget about the betrayal. Shumba must have emotionally witnessed people in life who waste time trying to lure back their ex-lovers who would have betrayed them. He appreciates the pain that one undergoes after being betrayed by someone he or she called lover. This is what we call heartbreak, or its sister term, heartache. This is a serious matter that the Peps Kings front man is trying to deal with in his song. In a dismissive manner, Shumba urges the betrayed girl or boy to move on and never to think about this almost evil betrayer(lover).
While the Clergy will always preach about reconciliation in broken love partnerships, Shumba advises, that a “heart breaker” should never be worshipped, lest “Ungazomupa manyemweee”. The best is to let him or her go as he or she is just like the wind which blows past stationary objects without causing any effect to the same.
For Shumba, there is no need to worship a lady or a boy as the market (world) is full of beautiful girls and smart boys who can always fill in the gap left by the betrayer. Indeed, this particular betrayer is not the last born of Zimbabwe or Africa, if not the whole world. This is a strong consoling line in the song for all those currently feeling the pain of betrayal from their loved ones.
In fact, for Shumba, betrayal can be a blessing in disguise. Otherwise, if you insist to reconnect with such an unfaithful partner, you will regret it as he or she can repeat what he or she would have done to you. In Shona they say “Shiri ine muririro wayo haimuregi” (it is diffult to change one’s tradional behavior). The best thing is to move on and look for other partners who may be even better than this particular one who did not keep the promise. Indeed, “God does not save you from heartache, but he will save you in heartache” (Morris, 2019). Morris (Ibid) further indicates that “God does not save you from pain, but he will save you in pain”. Therefore, according to Shumba, one can only save him or herself from this painful situation by moving on instead of continuously trying to foster reconciliation which will not help the situation.
A bit on love relationship
When two people have the hots for each other, their brains experience a flood of chemical changes, rewiring them entirely (Kelly, n.d.). Love induces adrenaline in the brain. This explains why a person in love, might trip up on words, sweat uncontrollably, and has heart palpitations (ibid). Indeed, loving someone feels really good to that extent.
However, when a relationship goes astray, those feel-good chemicals all nosedive and wreak havoc on one’s love-high body. One can experience extreme depression when he or she is detached from one’s significant other. Common symptoms that follow include loss of appetite, insomnia, increased stress, and problems focusing (Kelly, n.d.). A brokenhearted person becomes a complicated creature to deal with. A lot can happen as one tries to help a person in such an emotional situation. Often, we just get tired of love and feel that love really sucks. We feel like it hurts us way too much. At times love brings all the sort of pain that goes mercifully beyond our powers of feeling. This is the situation that Shumba is confronting in his song, Usamunamate.
An analysis of Shumba’s advice in Usamunamate
When it comes to betrayal, nothing hurts more than being betrayed by a person you so much love and trust. It hurts like hell when a partner in love betrays you. It is normally difficult to accept this reality hence one will try to speak to everyone and do everything in search of solutions. In most cases, one will feel like is dreaming, only to realize that indeed, his or her loving partner is no longer interested in their love affair. In some cases, one starts to self-blame for his or her delusion. Thus, Shumba offers special advice in such painful cases, that is, to move on. In this case, Shumba’s advice seems to connect so well with Sam (2020)’s “effective ways to deal with betrayal”.
In the following few paragraphs, I try to analyze Shumba’s message based on the four ways of dealing with betrayal as shared by Sam (2020). These are acceptance of reality; ignoring reasons behind betrayal; regarding betrayal as lessons of life as well as avoiding betrayals in relationships.
Acceptance of Reality
Very often, people find it difficult to move on because they do not accept the reality that they have been betrayed (Sam, 2020). Shumba notes the same in his song such that he advises one to accept that he or she has to look for other potential lovers. Yet, the first step to heal one’s wound is to face reality and admit that one has a wound. To insist that you have to reconnect with the ex-lover, is dangerous because “Uchazochema mangwana” according to Shumba.
Never look for reasons behind it
Sam (2020) advises that it will be useless to try to find the reason behind any betrayal. In the same vain, Shumba, is also not interested in one finding the reason for the ex-lover’s decision. For him, this becomes an opportunity for one to move on and look for other girls or boys who may be even better than the betrayer. Attention, according to Shumba, should be paid to the next stage of life without “this one”. Sam indicates that instead of trying to answer the question “why”, one needs to pay close attention to the impact of the betrayal. If it is “severe and affects you financially, mentally and emotionally, ask yourself if it’s something you can live with, stay with and comfortably be with moving forward. If not, then why bother wasting your time to find the reason when you already know your decision”. This resonates well with Shumba’s main message in his song, to move on.
Consider it a lesson
Clearly, heartbreak is painful, and we are all not immune from it. It is part of our love life, unfortunately. In most cases, we struggle to take stock of how we would have treated the eventual heartbreaker and thereby ending up blaming ourselves. Shumba and Sam (2020) hold that never ever blame yourself for someone’s decision to leave you. Othwise, when it happens, it should be considered as a blessing in disguise. This will be a lesson for you as you enter into new love relationships.
After experiencing heartbreak, one should “always pay close attention to people’s action rather than their words because actions always speak louder than words. ….. start to listen more and speak less and do more reflections as it helps ..get a better understanding that quality is more important than quantity…” (Sam, 2020) in love. Shumba also notes the same when he emphasizes that “Rega zviende izvooo…. inga nyika izere… nevasikana vakanakaaa….nevakomana vakatsvindaaa…” He is simply indicating that one would have been given the opportunity to settle for better quality love partners as a result of this betrayal.
Moreover, there is no need to revenge because “what goes around comes around” (Sam, 2020). For both Shumba and Sam, best revenge, one can make is moving on, living well and achieving greater success in life because if one ever encounters one’s betrayer again in future, the later will have no choice but to regret.
Stay away from betrayals
Some people are tempted to reconcile with ex-lovers who would have betrayed them in the first instance. In some considerable number of cases, some might forgive betrayal and continue to be in a relationship or partnership with them. Yet, Shumba continues to caution that “Uchazochema mangwana”. Shumba is unapologetic about it. He urges his audience to move on.
Conclusion
What is clear from my understanding of Usamunamate (2022 version) is that there is great improvements from the earlier version. However, the message remains the same with some few areas of emphasis being made in the new version. The arrangement of the guitars and voices was a major improvement in the latest project. Shumba does not seem to believe in reconciliation between ex-lovers. His advice is clear, “move on” as this may be an opportunity to connect with better lovers than the one who betrayed you.

Intelligence Officer’s Extortion Bail Ruling Deferred
By A Correspondent- Bail ruling for a divisional intelligence officer in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Leornard Mutandwa arrested last Thursday over extortion and fraud allegations has been deferred to today.
Mutandwa (48) was arrested together with Charles Benjamin Chari (57) and another Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) operative Godknows Ganyani, who is on the run.
The accused persons yesterday appeared before Harare magistrate Stanford Mambanje. The complainant in the matter is co-director of Welli-Will Industries Wilbert Makonese.
It is alleged that sometime last year, the complainant supplied goods worthUS$392 000 to the Primary and Secondary Education ministry, but payment was delayed.
Makonese was in dire need of money to repay a loan that his company had taken from the Industrial Development Bank of Zimbabwe.
The accused then offered to assist in the processing of the payment from the ministry and introduced themselves as members of the CIO.
It is further alleged that Mutandwa, Ganyani and Chari misrepresented that Makonese should pay “something” so that his company could be assisted. They allegedly showed Makonese a text message on Ganyani’s phone, purportedly originating from higher offices.
Makonese succumbed to the pressure and gave the accused US$1 500.
On November 22, the trio duped him again after misrepresenting that the President’s Office had directed Makonese to donate US$10 000 to a certain charitable organisation which was not named in the court documents.
Makonese gave the accused US$4 000 as a donation.
The trio allegedly further demanded US$500, claiming that it was facilitation fee and hey shared all the money.
Makonese was also forced to pay for one of the accused, Ganyani’s travel expenses from Chiredzi, including hotel bills amounting to US$4 000 and clothes worth US$450.
It was further alleged that on June 21 this year, the trio demanded US$30 000 from Makonese, claiming that it was payment for having facilitated prompt payment of the money which Makonese was owed by the ministry.
However, Makonese had not received the payment from the ministry as claimed by the trio. They threatened unspecified action on him after he refused to cooperate.
Makonese, however, became suspicious of the authenticity of the trio’s claims and he reported the matter to the police.
Investigations were carried out and on June 22, Mutandwa went to Makonese’s business premises intending to collect the money and was arrested.
Mutandwa then led the police to the arrest of Chari.-NewZimbabwe
Biti Dismisses Guvamatanga’s GNU Salary Claim
By A Correspondent- Former finance minister, Tendai Biti, has told off current treasury permanent secretary, George Guvamatanga, after he claimed civil servants are better paid now that they were during the government of national unity (GNU).
Guvamatanga, who was speaking to journalists at finance minister Mthuli Ncube’s press conference Monday, claimed civil servants never received US$540 in monthly wages during the coalition government when Biti was finance minister.
“I want to dispel another notion that has been shared widely, that previously, during the GNU, the minimum salary was US$540,” said Guvamatanga.
“That is not correct, because we know at that particular moment in time the exchange rate was US$1:ZW$2.50.
“If you want to work out the correct US dollar salary you have to take that US$540 and divide it by ZW$2.50.
“If you take the US$175, we are currently paying plus the ZW$60 000, as the minimum salary, we are paying we are not even far off from what civil servants were getting.
“The real value (of their salary) was around US$200.”
The Zimbabwe dollar was not in use during the GNU, which was in place from 2009 to 2013. It was only brought back in 2016 as a surrogate currency, bond notes, three years after the GNU.
Biti, who oversaw revival of the Zimbabwean economy in the GNU, after a decade in the doldrums, said Guvamatanga’s statement was ridiculous.
“The suggestion that there was an exchange rate in 2013 is so zany . It can’t be made by a senior civil servant. A parallel exchange rate only emerged fully in 2018 upon introduction of the surrogate currency we call the RTGS$ or the Bond Note, shame,” said Biti.
“When one has nothing to say one must shut up. Today’s presser was a tragic expression of the humongous levels of deceit, dishonesty, incompetence and hypocrisy of this regime. It is not news that the multi-currency system will continue. Fact is, the economy self-dollarised a long time ago.”
The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) vice president maintained government should adopt the US dollar as the main currency if it was not going to oversee another economic meltdown similar to the one witnessed around 2008.
Added Biti: “The Willing Buyer, Willing Seller (WBWS) exchange, like the auction rate, represents yet another rigged rate, hence the huge difference between same and the rate on 4th street. The RBZ should have no role in determination of exchange rate. Truth is the central bank long outlived its usefulness and should be abolished.
“Solution is simple, use the US dollar as a transitional mechanism. Float Zimbabwe dollar, eliminate export surrender requirements, pay civil servants US dollars, deal with debt burden, deal with corruption, pursue fiscal consolidation, fund the social sector and attend to gross capital formation.”
Ncube is battling to arrest a downward spiral of the economy that has seen Zimbabwe topping inflation rates across the globe, a steep rise in prices of basic goods and job action by civil servants who are demanding better wages in the favoured US dollar.
ZRP Probes Zanu PF Leaders’ Deaths In Nyatsime
By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched investigations into the death of two senior ZANU PF officials in the Nyatsime area of Chitungwiza.
One of them is alleged to have been poisoned, while the other reportedly succumbed to a stress-related illness.
The two officials are former Manyame district chairperson Tina Gweshe, who is suspected by her family to have been poisoned after she attended a party last week, and George Murambatsvina, the ZANU PF chairman for Nyatsime.
In an interview with The Herald on Monday, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said police have begun the investigations. He said:
We are conducting investigations with a view to find out what exactly happened and we would like to urge the public to cooperate with the police. There is need for police to maintain law and order especially considering what has happened and the investigations being conducted.
Murambatsvina is expected to be buried in his rural home in Gutu while Gweshe will be buried at Zororo cemetery.
The duo was reportedly among ZANU PF officials who blocked supporters of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) from attending the memorial service of their slain colleague, Moreblessing Ali a fortnight ago.
CCC supporters reportedly burnt Murambatsvina’s house following the blockade prompting ZANU PF members to burn some 26 homes belonging to CCC activists in the area.
Meanwhile, Zengeza West legislator Job Sikhala and Chitungwiza North legislator Godfrey Sithole, have since been arrested over the violence.
Inflation Humbles Mnangagwa, Mthuli Ncube, Return US Dollar
By- Inflation has humbled President Emerson Mnangagwa and his Finance minister, Mthuli Ncube and forced them to revert to the use of the United States dollar.
Mthuli admitted yesterday and said they will enact legislation to entrench the multicurrency system, which makes the US and Zimbabwe dollars legal tender for all local transactions.
He also indicated that the Government would craft legislation to support the use of the willing-buyer willing-seller exchange rate market price discovery in the setting of prices on the local market.
Ncube said the Government had recently taken significant steps to stabilise the Zimbabwe dollar exchange rate as announced by President Mnangagwa and other fiscal and monetary policy measures.
He said the confidence deficit among economic agents as a result of the past hyperinflation experiences had resulted in increased demand for US dollars as a store of value.
Ncube said lack of confidence and high inflation expectations had incentivised economic agents to engage in parallel market bench-marking of prices and skewed preference of US dollar for commercial transactions and forward exchange rate pricing.
By so doing they were creating a vicious cycle of increasing prices, which is self-fulfilling, and is generating higher month-to-month levels of inflation as well as fuelling adverse inflation expectations.
“Based on the above economic facts, the Government is putting in place the following additional measures to build further confidence in the economy. One, entrenching the multicurrency system into law.
“Government has clearly stated its intention of maintaining a multicurrency system based on the dual use of the US dollar and the Zimbabwe dollar in the main.
“However, the market’s lack of confidence in the multicurrency system is causing us challenges and I want to assure you that this multicurrency system is here to stay into the foreseeable future,” he said.
“And to eliminate any speculation and arbitrage-based activities, Government has decided to embed the multicurrency system and continue to use it or to make sure that the US dollar is used as a transaction currency in law for a period that includes the five years that covers the NDS 1 (National Development Strategy 1) period, so this will be in place for the entire NDS1 period.”
Ncube said the interbank market exchange rate is now going to be determined by banks on a willing-buyer willing-seller basis and the utilisation in all economic transactions of this formal rate is now made mandatory by law.
While economic agents are free to price their goods in US or Zimbabwe dollars, he said the equivalence of the US dollar prices and Zimbabwe dollar prices of commodities should be strictly based on the current exchange rate as determined by the willing-buyer willing-seller rate.
Lawyers Challenge Sikhala, Sithole’s Continued Persecution
By- Lawyers representing the detained CCC deputy chairman Job Sikhala and his counterpart, Godfrey Sithole, have approached the High Court seeking their release.
In a Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) statement, the duo argued that Deputy Chief Magistrate Mandaza erred in denying bail to their clients.
Jeremiah Bamu and Alec Muchadehama are representing the two senior CCC members.
Below is the statement:
INCARCERATED SIKHALA, SITHOLE TAKES FREEDOM BID TO HIGH COURT
THE High Court will on Wednesday 29 June 2022 hear an appeal filed by two opposition legislators, who are seeking their release from prison on bail.
In an appeal filed on Monday 27 June 2022, Zengeza West constituency legislator Hon. Job Sikhala and Chitungwiza North constituency legislator Hon. Godfrey Sithole, asked the High Court to overturn Deputy Chief Magistrate Godfrey Mandaza’s decision denying them bail.
On Wednesday 22 June 2022, Deputy Chief Magistrate Mandaza denied bail to Hon. Sikhala and Hon. Sithole after ruling that the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) parliamentarians were not suitable to be released from prison pending commencement of their trial as they were repeat offenders, had breached previous bail conditions, were persons of means and had supplied transport to persons who had perpetrated acts of violence.
Deputy Chief Magistrate Mandaza further stated that the two legislators were a danger to society hence their release on bail would undermine or jeopardise the bail system.
But through their lawyers Jeremiah Bamu and Alec Muchadehama of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, Hon. Sikhala and Hon. Sithole, argued that Deputy Chief Magistrate Mandaza mistook the facts by denying them bail on the basis that they were people of means when this reason does not constitute a compelling ground for the denial of bail.
Deputy Chief Magistrate Mandaza, Hon. Sikhala and Hon. Sithole argued, acted on a wrong principle in denying them bail in circumstances where no fears of absconding trial had been established, it being the primary purpose of the bail system.
The two opposition party parliamentarians were arrested on 14 June 2022 by Zimbabwe Republic Police officers, who charged them with incitement to commit public violence as defined in section 187(1)(a) as read with section 36(1)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
Prosecutors argued that Hon. Sikhala recorded and circulated a video urging people to commit acts of public violence in seeking revenge for the death of Moreblessing Ali who was murdered in Nyatsime area in Beatrice.
Hon. Sithole and Hon. Sikhala, prosecutors charged, supplied some vehicles which allegedly ferried some CCC party supporters from Chitungwiza and Epworth to Nyatsime, where they attacked some ruling ZANU PF party supporters and also destroyed property at shops and beer halls and looted groceries and electrical gadgets including burning a one-roomed house belonging to George Murambatsvina, the ZANU PF party Councillor for Nyatsime.
The two parliamentarians want the High Court to set aside Deputy Chief Magistrate Mandaza’s decision denying them bail and to be admitted to bail on conditions which include paying a bail deposit of ZWL15 000 and to be ordered to report once a fortnight on Fridays at Harare Central Police Station until their matter is finalised.

Harare Celebrity Make-Up Artist Faces Murder Charges
By-A popular Harare celebrity make-up artist is to be interviewed as a suspect by police after her husband was found dead at their rented Greendale home early Saturday.
Tawanda Gregory Bobo, 41, was found hanging from a guava tree with two neckties at the Greengroove Drive house. Police believe the scene was staged after Bobo was found in a sitting position, with the jeans he was wearing disposed of in the dump 15 meters away.
ZimLive reports that police have now identified Bobo’s wife Deliwe Chipo Mutandiro, 30, as a suspect, and her sister Debra Fungai Mutandiro as an accomplice to murder for allegedly assisting in the attempted cover-up.
Tawanda, Deliwe and Debra had attended a party in Borrowdale on Friday night and only returned home at around 2 AM on Saturday, according to family sources.
A row ensued between Tawanda and Deliwe, she said after she refused to have sex with him because she was tired and had work the following day.
Reports of a fight were corroborated by the couple’s maid, Chipo Maguta, who revealed that at one point Deliwe “sought refuge” in her room and Tawanda followed her and their argument continued until Debra helped restrain him.
Maguta said Deliwe left her room and she did not know where she slept, although sometime after 3 AM she heard what she thought were footsteps in the passage and the two sisters apparently whispering to each other.
Deliwe and Chipo have told investigators they left for Goromonzi at around 5 AM. Deliwe, who said she slept with their three children in another room, said she observed that her husband did not sleep in their bedroom and assumed he slept in the lounge.
It was not until 8 AM that Maguta stumbled on Tawanda’s body. She called Deliwe and an ambulance was summoned but he was confirmed dead at the scene.
Police said they responded to reports of suicide on Saturday morning. They have now opened a murder investigation.
Mnangagwa Cornered
Zimbabwe’s worsening economic situation has reportedly ratcheted pressure on President Emmerson Mnangagwa from within his ruling Zanu PF party to find quick solutions as the country heads into the election season.
The spectre of the grim 2008 era defined by hyperinflation is looming large in the southern African country after the year-on-year inflation shot up to 191,7% in June from 131,7% in May according to the latest official figures.
Price increases have become a daily occurrence, leaving desperate workers unable to cope as wages and salaries fail to keep pace.
A panicked Mnangagwa promised on Friday to announce fresh “concrete measures to tame inflation, and unwarranted increases towards securing the incomes and savings of our people, especially women”.
He said this while officially opening Zanu PF’s 7th national women’s league congress in Harare.
Mnangagwa appears stumped, unable to deal with the rampaging inflation or halt the slide of the local currency against the United States dollar.
Finance minister Mthuli Ncube is likely to announce the measures at a Press conference this morning.
On the parallel market, the rate was US$1:$650 at the weekend, compared to $360 on the official market.
Party organs are reportedly increasingly becoming restless, worried that the economic meltdown could cost the ruling party dearly in elections expected next year.
There are also strong indications that the Cabinet is sharply divided over how to deal with the situation, with some ministers calling for dollarisation, while others are advocating for the status quo to stay.
Big wigs in the party are also reportedly piling pressure on Mnangagwa to reshuffle the Cabinet and fire some ministers they accuse of sabotaging his vision of a middle class population by 2030, insiders said.
The Zanu PF women’s league on Friday implored Mnangagwa to put in place stringent measures to stem corruption that now infests his cronies, which has emerged as the major force bleeding the economy.
“My President, we want you to introduce stiffer penalties against perpetrators of corruption by even cutting one finger, if not two,” women’s league secretary Mabel Chinomona said at the conference.
At a Press conference recently, Zanu PF youth national secretary for administration Tendai Chiwetu said he was aware of ministers and legislators who were working against Mnangagwa.
“We have people who seem to like President Mnangagwa, but they don’t like him. We are going to make sure that they don’t retain as central committee members as we approach the elections,” Chiwetu said.
Mnangagwa has previously attacked “saboteurs” for the economic malaise.
Last month, he announced a raft of measures aimed at controlling the spiralling inflation, which included a ban on bank lending, but the measures boomeranged and forced government to backtrack.
Economists attributed the current economic mess to poor monetary policies and fiscal policy failure, insisting that dollarisation was the only way to forward.
“There is no room for other economic measures to rescue the economy other than dollarisation. Owing to this ever rising inflation, the minister (Ncube) may need a supplementary budget, but with what currency? Is he prepared to use the local currency, we will have a $2 trillion dollar budget because naturally, if you look at what has been happening, the official exchange rate has tripled from December last year yet the budget did not take into account of that,” economist Gift Mugano said.
“Expectation was that by the end of the year, the official exchange rate would be around 200, but now it’s already 350. As we get to December, the rate would be above 500.
“So government is in no capacity to put any measure to tame inflation other than dollarising. It’s a raging fire. Economic agents are restless. Whatever is happening in the economy is self-fulfilling.”
Political analyst Sydicks Muradzikwa described Mnangagwa’s efforts to resolve the economic crisis as “political rhetoric”.
“The economic fundamentals that are prevailing cannot be addressed by political gimmicks. He has to make sure that he implements genuine political reforms. There are outstanding key political issues that are threatening to tear this economy apart,” he said. Newsday

Brothers Kill Own Father Over USD15
Two siblings were arrested last Friday in Marondera after they allegedly killed their father during a quarrel over US$15 stolen from a shop.
The duo, Eric (28) and Brian Kagoro (25) of Nyagambe Farm, outside Marondera, were nabbed by villagers and handed over to the police for the alleged murder of their father Zivanai Kagoro.
On Saturday, they were arraigned before the Marondera Magistrates Court and were remanded in custody to Friday.
It is alleged that on June 19, the suspects’ 15-year-old brother saw a villager stealing money from a shop at Dhenzi business centre. He informed Brian about the theft.
Brian and the villager who had stolen the money then tried to bribe the boy by promising that they would share the money. The boy (Brian’s young brother) refused, which resulted in a misunderstanding. Brian then assaulted his younger brother.
This prompted their father to caution Brian. They went back home, but while there Brian teamed up with Eric and they accused their father of favouring their younger brother.
This then resulted in another misunderstanding and the two brothers began assaulting their father.
The following morning, the father collapsed in the yard due to the injuries he had sustained during the assault. He was taken to Marondera Hospital where he died the following day. -Newsday

State Media (FULL TEXT) -The Zimbabwe Republic Police have launched investigations into the death of two senior Zanu PF officials in Nyatsime area of Chitungwiza with one of them alleged to have been poisoned, while the other reportedly succumbed to a stress-related illness after his house was recently burnt down by CCC supporters rampaging after the murder of a woman by a violent ex-boyfriend, now in custody.
The two officials are former Manyame district chairperson Cde Tina Gweshe, who is suspected by family to have been poisoned after she attended a party last week, and Cde George Murambatsvina, the Zanu PF chairman for Nyatsime, whose house was set ablaze by CCC supporters in Nyatsime about a fortnight ago. Cde Murambatsvina suffered serious injuries and stress from the violent attack.
In an interview yesterday, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said police have begun the investigations over the deaths of the two Zanu PF officials, but now needed the results of the post mortems to ascertain the causes of the deaths.
“We are conducting investigations with a view to find out what exactly happened and we would like to urge the public to cooperate with the police,” he said. On the heavy police presence, Asst Comm Nyathi said, “There is need for police to maintain law and order especially considering what has happened and the investigations being conducted.”
The Herald yesterday visited the area where Zanu PF supporters were still mourning their two leaders.
Senior party officials also visited the area where they handed over food and goods to the bereaved families.
Seke Constituency legislator Cde Munyaradzi Kashambe also reiterated the need for peace and applauded police for ensuring that there is order in the area. Cde Kashambe said he was saddened that after the CCC supporters had unleashed violence, they then lost one of their hard working senior party members.
“A few days ago we also lost another comrade, Cde Gweshe who was also known as ‘Greenhouse’. As a party we have, however, then decided to donate food to the two families.
“I would also want applaud the unity that has been displayed between the party supporters in both the province and also at national level during this period. I would also want to thank you for maintaining peace. Even our President, Cde ED Mnangagwa, has always emphasised the need for maintaining peace as we head towards the 2023 elections,” he said.
Mashonaland East Zanu PF provincial vice chairman Cde Kudzai Majuru said Zanu PF was a peaceful party and it was his hope that the law will take it’s course. Cde Majuru said they had decided to assist the two families with maize meal, rice, cooking oil, flour, salt and various groceries.
“As Zanu PF we are a peaceful party and we have allowed the law to take it’s course. Following the loss of our two officials, as Zanu PF we have decided to assist with some groceries and cash for the bereaved families. We will continue to assist them and even the families left behind,” he said.
Cde Murambatsvina is expected to be buried in his rural home in Gutu and Cde Gweshe at Zororo cemetery.
Zengeza West legislator Job Sikhala and his Chitungwiza North legislator Godfrey Sithole, have since been arrested on charges of incitement to commit violence after the violence by CCC supporters in Nyatsime, remarks they are alleged to have made before that violence and allegations of involvement in assembling supporters.
Sikhala, who is also the CCC deputy national chairperson, and Sithole are accused of mobilising their party supporters to unleash violence in Nyatsime during a memorial service for Moreblessing Ali, who they claimed had been killed by a Zanu PF member, when in fact she was killed by her former lover.
Ali, who the CCC said was a supporter, was abducted outside a nightclub in Nyatsime on May 14 and her dismembered remains were discovered in a disused well at a farm in Beatrice about 10km away from where she was taken. The chief suspect in her murder, Pius Jamba (31), was arrested five days later and is remanded in custody.
On Sunday, Zanu supporters also held a peaceful demonstration at Chibhanguza Shopping Centre where they castigated the opposition supporters including Sikhala and CCC leader Nelson Chamisa.- Herald

Understanding Monkeypox

COVID-19 Daily Update

Mnangagwa Splashes Cash For Polls
Zanu PF has revealed that members of the party’s women’s league conference in Harare were showered with cash and fuel coupons amid indications that the ruling party is already well oiled ahead of the 2023 elections.
The elective conference ended yesterday with Senate president Mabel Chinomona retaining her position as secretary of the Zanu PF women’s league.
Outgoing secretary for transport and social welfare Marben Nkatazo told delegates 31 Zupco buses were hired to ferry delegates from across the country before laying out the benefits the delegates got for attending the conference.
“His Excellency, we had 31 Zupco buses which ferried people.
“We only had one challenge when the Manicaland bus had a breakdown,” Nkatazo said.
“We have cash points for politburo members and central committee members, who are going to get allowances and coupons.
“Members are booked in hotels, lodges, and higher tertiary institutions.”
Zanu PF also funded foreign guests from sister parties in the region by paying for their accommodation, air-tickets and food.”
In his closing remarks, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said Zanu PF was “roaring like a lion” ahead of next year’s elections where he would be seeking a second full term.
“We don’t want corruption, Zanu PF is the king of the jungle,” Mnangagwa said.
“We are roaring and we are kicking and Zanu PF is everybody’s party and we should always expose the lies on social media.”
Mnangagwa said the ruling party had enough resources to mobilise for next year’s elections at a time the country is battling a harsh socio-economic crisis.
“Go to your provinces, we have resources to mobilise for support,” he added.
Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa said he was not aware how much was spent for the conference.
“It has been a well-organised conference,” Mutsvangwa said.
“In my view, they will go with election message and I wouldn’t know on the budget and number of delegates because there is another department, which is doing that.”
Zanu PF’s official reports have always shown that the party is struggling financially, but its election campaigns are often funded by businessmen that benefit from government contracts.
In the last elections, the wealthy businessmen bought the party dozens of cars.
In 2020 Zanu PF moved to expel its youth political commissar Godfrey Tsenengamu, who revealed that most of the ruling party’s financiers were embroiled in corrupt activities that were contributing to Zimbabwe’s economic problems.-Standard

CCC Activists On The Run As Police Swoop On Sikhala, Sithole
By A Correspondent| Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activists are on the run after police swooped on Zengeza West and St Marys legislators Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole over the violence that broke out at the funeral of Moreblessing Ali.
14 other activists from Nyatsime area have also been arrested and currently detained together with the two legislators.
In an interview with ZimEye, CCC spokesperson accused the police of targeting opposition members when the people who murdered Ali were walking scot free.
“It’s sad that our police always take sides, instead of investigating the murder of our member Moreblessing Ali, they connived with Zanu PF members to disrupt the funeral.
“Instead of arresting Zanu PF members who attacked our members at the funeral, they chose to go for our members
“That is why we have always insisted that Mr Mnangagwa’s administration does not respect rule of law,” said Mahere.
One of the CCC members who attended Moreblessing Ali’s funeral Hazel Chipunga told ZimEye that she survived by hiding in a nearby bridge as the police and Zanu PF thugs attacked everyone wearing a yellow t-shirt.
Chipunga who is the CCC branch secretary for Zengeza West said since the Nyatsime violence incident, she has been receiving calls from suspicious telephone numbers threatening her with violence.
“I have been receiving calls from people claiming to be police officers asking me to report to St Mary’s police station but surprisingly, they would call in the middle of the night,” said Chipunga.
Another CCC member from Marondera, Audius Makomatsi also had his home, car and shop burnt down by Zanu PF members and is on the run.
“They destroyed my car, my shop and my home and instead of arresting the people who did that, they are targeting me, I don’t know why,” said Makomatsi.
Mahere confirmed Makomatsi and Chipunga’s predicament adding that Sikhala’s wife had her car impounded by the police.
“We are receiving reports that the home, car and shop of CCC member, Audius Makomatsi have been burnt in Nyatsime following the memorial service of Moreblessing Ali who disappeared & was murdered. Nobody has been arrested for the murder.
“We are advised that the wife and relatives of Hon @JobSikhala have been denied access to Central Police Station where Hon Sikhala is being held. His car has reportedly been impounded,” said Mahere in a tweet.

A row ensued between Tawanda and Deliwe, she said after she refused to have s*x with him because she was tired and had work the following day.
CCC Remembers 2008 Political Violence Victims
By- The opposition CCC party has remembered its activists who lost their lives in June 2008 to Zanu PF political violence.
Zanu PF maimed more than 200 opposition activists in June 2008 after the ruling party’s President Robert Mugabe had lost to MDC Presidential candidate Morgan Tsvangirai.
CCC posted on Twitter, remembering these activists:
17/ On the 27th of June 2008, Zanu PF ran a solo election after the late Dr RM Tsvangirai had pulled out of the rerun due to continued violence and torture targeted against his supporters by suspected Zanu PF thugs. #Remembering27JuneVictims
What Is Monkeypox?

Zimbabwean Singer Performs At Real Madrid Star’s Wedding
For any Zimbabwean who loves football, seeing the Real Madrid squad on television is normal.
The record 14-time Champions League winners have won Europe’s premier club competition four times in the last six years, hence one is bound to frequently bump into them on TV.
But Zimbabwean singer and songwriter Tina Masawi got the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to not only see the Madrid players in person but they also watched her perform.
Masawi sang at Los Blancos defender Dani Carvajal’s wedding on Friday.
The Spain international married his partner of many years Daphne Cañizares, in the Spanish city of Segovia.
For Tina, who is based in Barcelona and sings R’n’B, blues, pop, afro beats and house music, this was a dream come true.
But how did the opportunity come about?
“Their wedding planner reached out to me on their behalf, they found me online I imagine,” she revealed.
“I was asked to perform at an FC Barcelona footballer’s wedding a couple of years back and couldn’t go due to another commitment and I was hoping another opportunity like that would come around so I am very glad that it did,” added Tina.
The ceremony was attended by Carvajal’s Real teammates, including Marco Asensio, Thibaut Courtois, Federico Valverde, Nacho, Lucas Vasquez, and Jesus Vallejo.
Tina, who sang a classic English song for the newly-weds, admits nerves got the better of her at first, but she eventually pulled herself together.
“It felt amazing and yes I was a little nervous beforehand as it was a very intimate moment but as soon as the spotlight came on, I did what I know how to do best, felt right at home. It was an amazing experience,” she said.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Caps United Succumb To 7th Consecutive Defeat
Struggling Harare giants CAPS United’s woes continue after they succumbed to their 7th defeat on the trot when they were edged 0-1 by ZPC Kariba at the National Sports Stadium.
Lloyd Chitembwe’s charges last won a league match on April 10, when they edged Yadah 1-0.
The Green Machine has been plunged into a financial crisis which has seen some players leaving while the remaining ones have at times played well but just can’t get the job done.
Even a stakeholders meeting held during the two-week PSL break could not inspire the Phineas Bamusi-captained side to return to winning ways.
Heading into today’s encounter, Makepekepe had last scored a goal on the 24th of April, in the 1-2 defeat to Triangle at Gibbo.
They did score today but in the wrong net.
Defender Marshall Machazane tried to intercept a goal-bound pass in the 66th minute but sliced the ball past his goalkeeper Tatenda Munditi to give ZPC the lead and ultimately, the winner.
Chitembwe was naturally disappointed by the result.
“It’s very deflating and disappointing,” he said in a post-match interview.
“From a results viewpoint, it’s extremely disappointing. This will rank among the poorest phaces in my football career, very disappointing.
“Sometimes you look at it performance-wise and I thought it was a decent performance but it needed us to have more than just a decent performance; more guts, it needed us to have more courage, much more character and knowing what is at stake.
“It was a decent performance and I’m extremely disappointed by the way we conceded. I thought the situation was under control but well, one or two mistakes and failure to communicate and it obviously costs you a game of football, added Chitembwe.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe
DeMbare Kicked Out Of Nakamba Tournament
Dynamos have been disqualified from the inauguration Marvelous Nakamba U-17 invitational tournament in Bulawayo for age cheating.
The tournament is being played at White City Stadium in the City of Kings and bankrolled by the Aston Villa midfielder through his Marvelous Nakamba Foundation (MNF).
Dynamos, who had progressed to the semi-finals set for today after collecting nine points in Group A, have been disqualified from the tournament for using an over-aged player.
Soccer24 has it on good authority that the player in question was part of the national U-17 team disqualified from the 2020 Cosafa U-17 tournament, and that triggered suspicion.
One of the organisers of the tournament, who asked not to be named, confirmed that DeMbare have been disqualified.
“Yes, they have been disqualified. And it’s sad for the game and unfortunate on the debate as a brand. They will be replaced in the semi-finals by the team which finished third in their group” he said.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Tinashe Sambiri| Police have arrested individuals linked to the murder of CCC activist Langelihle Zonda Dube.
Dube, popularly known as Mr Tuesday, was brutally murdered in Bulawayo on June 8.
It remains to be seen whether the murder was linked to robbery as police claim.

” Bulawayo CID Homicide Section have arrested suspects who killed Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) member Langelihle Zonda Dube known as Mr Tuesday.
On the 8th ofJune, the marauding machete gang pounced at Dube’s Lobengula home at around 2am demanding money, killed him and later robbed his wife of US$25 before disappearing,” former Radio Zimbabwe presenter Ezra Tshisa Sibanda wrote on Facebook.

CCC Remembers 27 June 2008 Political Violence Victims
By A Correspondent- The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has remembered victims of the violence that preceded the 2008 presidential re-run election which the Nelson Chamisa-led party blames on the ruling ZANU PF.
Many people were tortured and or killed while some lost their homes as the ruling ZANU PF’s campaign dubbed “27 June VaMugabe muOffice” was implemented by ZANU PF’s Border Gezi-trained Greenbombers, state security forces and war veterans.
Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) leader, the late Morgan Tsvangirai, pulled out of the presidential race following violence against his supporters. Pindula News presents the CCC’s Twitter thread – #Remembering27JuneVictims:
Today, the 27th of June, we remember the opposition members who were murdered, tortured and maimed in 2008 on account of politics
The violent attacks on the opposition members by suspected Zanu PF thugs took place after the late Dr Richard Morgan Tsvangirai had resoundingly won the March 2008 presidential elections against the late Robert Mugabe.
This electoral outcome threatened to bring Robert Mugabe’s grip on power since independence to an abrupt end. The opposition, for the first time since independence, also took control of parliament.
The regime through the abuse of the state institutions particularly ZEC released a tampered election result outcome after a very long time, and subsequently resulted in a rerun.
In a callous effort to reverse the presidential election result, suspected Zanu PF unleashed terror and violence against opposition members.
According to the ZEC results which took more than a month to be released, Morgan Tsvangirai of the MDCT garnered 47.9 % of the total vote to upstage Robert Mugabe of ZANU-PF who allegedly garnered 43.7 % of the total vote.
A re-run was ordered to take place on the 27th of June 2008 to determine a winner. The 27th of June 2008 would become the rerun date.
Before the re-run could take place, politically motivated violence broke out across the country which left more than 200 opposition supporters dead, over 200 reported cases of rape, destruction of property and livestock and over 20000 people displaced.
The election was widely contested and rejected by the international community. After several talks mediated by South Africa’s Thabo Mbeki, ZANU PF and two MDC formations formed a Government of National Unity (GNU).

New Statutoty Instrument Complels Debtors To Repay In Forex.
By A Correspondent- The government has announced the introduction of a new Statutory Instrument that will compel debtors to repay in the currency they would have borrowed, for instance, those who borrow USD will repay in USD.
The announcement was made by Finance and Economic Development Secretary, George Guvamatanga at a press conference held in Harare this Monday.
He said the Statutory Instrument will be issued today (27 June 2022).
He said the legislation is introduced after financial institutions including banks have been complaining that people are borrowing USD and would repay in Zimbabwe dollars.
This would put them at a disadvantage considering that the local currency is shedding value against the United States dollar and other currencies.
4m Learners Failing To Pay Fees
By A Correspondent- Four million children are failing to pay fees and are now clamouring for government’s Basic Education Assistance Module (Beam) programme, the Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development (Zimcodd) has said.
In its latest report released last week, Zimcodd also said 30 000 students failed to register for their final examinations last year after failing to afford Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) fees.
“Although government’s efforts are commendable, it is sad to note that approximately four million children are in need of Beam, but only 160 782 managed to receive government assistance, pointing to the meagre spending towards HCD [human capital development],” Zimcodd said.
“Parents across the country failed to pay for their children’s school fees leading to a mass dropout in 2021. A 2,03% decrease was witnessed with 49 128 candidates as compared to 50 287 in 2020. The reduction in numbers of students who registered with Zimsec for Advanced Level did not come as a surprise to Zimcodd, as one of its weekly reviews in 2021 lamented how 30 000 students had failed to register. This points to weak social protection policies with respect to education.”
Zimcodd said as of August 2021, government had only paid for 160 782 children fees, amounting to $432 834 468.
Zimcodd said it had carried out the rapid survey to determine if government had increased Beam uptake and if it was releasing the Beam funds on time.
The survey established that while government was paying Beam, many schools had not received Beam fees for the first term, although a few had received and the last payments having been made in March.
The survey also determined that the low number of Beam beneficiaries indicated that government was either unwilling or failing to support the vulnerable children.
Zimcodd implored the Primary and Secondary Education as well as the Finance and Economic Development ministries to prioritise education by adequately funding Beam to ensure that every vulnerable child gets an equal opportunity to learn.
Public Service minister Paul Mavima said: “Government is only giving assistance to one and a half million children this year. President Emmerson Mnangagwa said by next year, the government will start State-funded basic education, so all the children will be taken care of next year.”-Newsday
Declining Economic Situation Haunts ED
By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe’s worsening economic situation has reportedly ratcheted pressure on President Emmerson Mnangagwa from within his ruling Zanu-PF party to find quick solutions as the country heads into the election season.
He said this while officially opening Zanu-PF’s 7th national women’s league congress in Harare.
The Zanu-PF women’s league on Friday implored Mnangagwa to put in place stringent measures to stem corruption that now infests his cronies, which has emerged as the major force bleeding the economy.
“My President, we want you to introduce stiffer penalties against perpetrators of corruption by even cutting one finger, if not two,” women’s league secretary Mabel Chinomona said at the conference.
At a Press conference recently, Zanu-PF youth national secretary for administration Tendai Chiwetu said he was aware of ministers and legislators who were working against Mnangagwa.
There are outstanding key political issues that are threatening to tear this economy apart,” he said.-Newsday

Command ED Rally For Nyatsime Residents
By A Correspondent- Zanu-PF councillor Masimbi Masimbi, who torched a heated controversy after declaring the Nyatsime area in Chitungwiza a ruling party territory, has ordered all residents in the area to attend a rally set to be addressed by President Mnangagwa on Wednesday.
Masimbi made headlines two weeks ago when he banned Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activists from mourning their murdered colleague Moreblessing Ali while wearing CCC party regalia claiming that the Nyatsime area was a Zanu-PF territory.
The area was later turned into a battle field as CCC and Zanu-PF supporters clashed.
In a Saturday evening audio sent on WhatsApp group “Regularise Nyatsime Trust 2”, Masimbi, who is ward 9 (Nyatsime) councillor, said he was targeting an attendance of 20 000 people.
“I have come back again Nyatsime residents. I want to speak firmly on this issue. We are expecting the President on June 29. We want to shock the nation by a high turnout as we welcome our President. We want to show him that we are behind him, we will vote for him. Five million votes will come from this area,” Masimbi said.
“We need to show him that we are his children and everyone needs title deeds. His visit and that of the whole province is a big blessing to the ward. That day, schools should close for people to go and welcome our President and prove that five million votes can come out of Nyatsime.”
This did not go down well with some residents in the group who said this kind of communication should have been done in a Zanu-PF WhatsApp group.
“Comrade, why don’t you go to your party’s group. Respect that people in this group have different political affiliations,” said one of the group members.
Masimbi replied: “I did not speak politics, I said let’s go and welcome the country’s President and tell him our concerns which made this group to be created such as the issue of title deeds. That’s the main purpose of the group. Know that comrade.”

Mnangagwa Splashes Cash For 2023 Polls
Teachers Union Exerts Pressure On Mnangagwa To Release Masaraure
Tinashe Sambiri|Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe ( ARTUZ) has vowed to confront the Zanu PF regime over the arrest and detention of its president Obert Masaraure.
In a statement on Sunday, ARTUZ secretary general, Robson Chere, accused the Zanu PF regime of using the persecution by prosecution gimmick to silence dissenting voices.
“He is not with his family right now , he is in prison for the simple reason of Fighting for labour rights.
Lets join hands and demand justice for him. As a Union we are also not going to fold hands and allow our President being persecuted .
FreeObert #justiceforobert,” Chere posted on Facebook.
CCC welfare officer Maureen Kademaunga on Saturday denounced the incessant persecution of political activists by Zanu PF.
Kademaunga said:
“Was at Chikurubi to visit Hon Job WiwaSikhala, Hon G. Sithole , Masaraure Obert , Jeche, Guzha and Makoma. I am sore.
The regime can’t abuse us like this and we carry on with life as usual.
Our lack of active solidarity is trechorous and may corner us into breaches of culpability.”

This did not go down well with some residents in the group who said this kind of communication should have been done in a Zanu PF WhatsApp group.
Know that comrade.” –Newsday
2 Nyatsime ZANU PF Leaders Drop Dead And Herald Says It’s Poison | FULL TEXT
A dark cloud has engulfed the Nyatsime area of Chitungwiza following the death of two senior Zanu PF officials under unclear circumstances, with one of them alleged to have been poisoned while the other succumbed to a stress-related illness after his house was recently burnt down by CCC supporters.
The two officials are former Manyame district chairperson, Tina Gweshe, who is believed to have been poisoned after she attended a party last week, while the other one is George Murambatsvina, the Zanu PF chairman for Nyatsime, whose house was set ablaze by CCC supporters in Nyatsime about a fortnight ago.
Murambatsvina had suffered serious injuries and stress from the violent incident.
Zengeza West legislator, Job Sikhala and his Chitungwiza North Constituency counterpart Godfrey Sithole, have since been arrested on charges of incitement to commit violence.
Sikhala, who is also the CCC deputy national chairperson and Sithole, are accused of mobilising their party supporters to unleash violence in Nyatsime during a memorial service for Moreblessing Ali, who they claimed had been killed by a Zanu PF member, when in fact she was killed by her former lover under unclear circumstances.
Ali, who the CCC claimed was its member, was abducted outside a nightclub in Nyatsime on May 14 and her dismembered remains were discovered in a disused well at a farm in Beatrice, about 10km away from where she was taken.
The chief suspect in her murder, Pius Jamba (31) was recently arrested and is remanded in custody.

Man Falls From Hospital 3rd Floor ED-Style
For eight months, a family from Bulawayo’s Emganwini suburb did not bury the body of a loved one who died at the United Bulawayo Hospitals after he fell from the third floor of a building at the institution.
Welcome Moyo’s family is not happy about the circumstances surrounding his death at the hospital and is now demanding compensation, even after burying him two weeks ago.
Authorities said disciplinary action is being taken against some staff members following the death but the institution is not able to compensate the family.
The deceased’s mother, Mrs Rodah Moyo said her son was admitted for epileptic fits on a Saturday in September last year but hospital staff left him unattended, and he fell from the third floor to the ground.
Nurses did not inform the family or doctors about the fall but put him back on his bed and he died.
Family members first visited him in hospital a day after Welcome’s admission and were told he would be discharged the following day.
When they returned to the hospital to take him home, he was dead.
“The fact that they never phoned informing us that our son had fallen makes everything suspicious. The rumours that we refused to bury him are not true, because we would never do such.
We just asked for compensation but the hospital held the body,” she said. “The pain I am feeling is so out of this world, I’m still alive in flesh but deep down I am dead. What happened has taken away all the peace from me and my family. Eight good months with a child in the mortuary, I could not sleep.
“Whenever I closed my eyes, I would think of him, and tell myself that if my son could see what was happening, he would say we hated him to the core, yet we did not have the power to bury him on time.”
The deceased’s father Mr Collen Moyo reiterated that they did not refuse to bury their son but the hospital held on to the body.
Our son had some periodical epileptic fits attacks which did not last long and used to attack him after three months intervals.
On Saturday September 25, he endured the attacks and we agreed to take him for medical attention at UBH, where upon arrival he fully recovered but was admitted for monitoring.
They said he would be discharged the following day but because it was a Sunday, they could not discharge him, it’s their policy.
“That Sunday, two of his sisters visited him and they stood by the word that they found him well, playing draughts with others waiting for his discharge,” he said.
“On Monday September 27, we did not visit him in the morning because we planned to go once to take him home since he was being discharged.
The two sisters went to the hospital in the afternoon to bring their brother home only to get news that he had passed on.
They were confused, and asked his doctor for explanations.
They were only told that he fell while visiting the toilet.”
Mr Moyo said they were then shown the body on Tuesday.
“The statement that they were investigating the case made us believe that they were holding on to the body so we could not go on with the burial until cleared by them.”
He said they wrote to the hospital in February demanding compensation and only buried the deceased two weeks ago after police intervened on the matter.
However, in an interview, Bulawayo PMD, Dr Maphios Siamuchembu said the family refused to take the body when they were told about the death and was demanding compensation.
“ They said they were not happy that they were not told when he fell, they were not told at the time he died.
I am in possession of a letter in which they were demanding US$50 000 compensation before they could agree to take the body,” he said.
Dr Siamuchembu said it was clear right from the beginning that health workers, specifically the nurses, who had attended to him from the time of admission to the time of his death, had done something wrong.
He said the hospital management sought advice from the Ministry of Health and Child Care on how to handle the issue and the ministry gave the hospital permission to, among other things, assist with funeral expenses.
The family was also being assisted with food periodically before the burial.
He said the hospital will not compensate the family.
“The hospital is a government entity.
It has no resources, and no mandate to stand alone as a legal entity that can be made to pay compensation.
Asking the hospital to pay compensation is asking the government to pay compensation, and that is beyond my scope as PMD to comment.
What the hospital has done is to apply internal disciplinary measures to the wrong doing health workers involved. What these measures are, I think, is not for public consumption,” said Dr Siamuchembu.-Chronicle

Panicky Zanu PF Claims CCC Leaders Are CIA Agents
ZANU PF national secretary for finance Patrick Chinamasa has invoked the spirit of Mbuya Nehanda as Zimbabwe faces another possible onslaught from the United States of America.
Chinamasa also accused CCC leaders Nelson Chamisa and Tendai Biti of doing the United States’s bidding and vowed that they will never rule Zimbabwe, adding that the spirit of Mbuya Nehanda will not allow it.
In 2002, the United States passed the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act( ZIDERA), a law which imposed economic sanctions on Zimbabwe, allegedly to provide for a transition to democracy and to promote economic recovery.
Chinamasa said on 29 April 2022 the U.S. Government, through its embassy in Harare, wrote to Zimbabwe, asking the southern African country “to take additional immediate action to forego military-technical cooperation with Russia in response to Russia’s massive, unprovoked invasion of Ukraine”.
He accused the United States of supporting the illegal Ian Smith Regime in Rhodesia and going as far as passing the Byrd Amendment to circumvent the UN sanctions against Rhodesia. Said Chinamasa:
… the US communication of 29 April 2022 must be understood for what it is, a call to Zimbabwe to publicly disarm itself.
Zimbabwe should never allow foreign forces to dictate who its friends should be.
We thank Our President Cde ED Mnangagwa for his resoluteness in refusing emphatically to do the Bully’s bidding.
Thank you for making it clear that under no circumstances will quislings and CIA agents in the name of Mr Chamisa and Mr Biti ever rule this country come what may!

Zanu PF Nyatsime Stalwart Dies Mysteriously
Zanu-PF chairperson for Nyatsime, George Murabatsvina, the man who amongst others barred Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) supporters from mourning their slain colleague Moreblessing Ali at her home in Nyatsime has been confirmed dead.
Murambatsvina is said to have died after a short illness.
Together with another Zanu-PF official, Masimbi Masimbi, Murambatsvina declared the area a no-go-area for opposition supporters soon just before there were running battles between the two main political parties.
Opposition supporters have taken to social media in “celebration,” arguing the late Ali’s “unsettled spirit” is avenging.

Chicken Inn Extend Lead At PSL Summit
Chicken Inn opened a four-point lead at the top after beating Cranborne Bullets 4-1 in the Castle Lager Premiership Matchday 18 encounter on Saturday.
The Gamecocks recovered from an early scare after the hosts had taken the lead through Tadiwa Chibunyu at the quarter-hour mark. Malvin Hwata scored the equaliser in the 23rd minute before Bret Amidu completed the turn-around on the stroke of halftime.
Brian Muza stretched the lead with fifteen minutes to go, and Munashe Pini sealed the triumph just moments before the final whistle.
The extended-gap at the top of the table was aided by Dynamos’ slump against Yadah in the capital.
The Glamour Boys fell behind the leaders after succumbing to a late Ralph Matema’s goal.
The Harare giants spent the majority of the first half of the season at the top of the table. A boardroom decision to give Highlanders their matchday 15 encounter on a 3-0 scoreline plus the latest defeat put them in second place and four points behind Chicken Inn.
Elsewhere, Ngezi Platinum Stars bounced back to winning ways in style after thrashing Bulawayo City 3-0.
Madamburo had failed to pick maximum points in the last two games, but second-half goals from Bruno Mtigo (49′), Denver Mukamba (56′) and Delic Murimba (85′) ended the winless streak.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe
Orlando Pirates To Offload Dzvukamanja ?
Terrence Dzvukamaja’s future at Orlando Pirates is reportedly in doubt amid rumours the club could release the Zimbabwean forward in this window.
Dzvukamaja failed to reach top form at the Soweto giants and only managed two goals in thirty-five appearances last season.
According to the South African outlet Daily Sun, the 28-year-old is among five players expected to leave Pirates.
“The club confirmed the players who are no longer needed, but there’s still more,” an unnamed source revealed to the newspaper.
“Other players, who have struggled with game time, such as Tlolane, want to leave. Negotiations are still underway with certain players.”
However, the publication adds that it’s still unclear whether the club will release them outright or loan them out.
So far, seven players- Kwanda Mngonyama, Abel Mabaso, Justice Chabalala, Elson Sithole, Wayne Sandilands and Thabang Monare – have already been shown the exit door.
They joined Thulani Hlatshwayo, who became the first player to leave the club.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Safe Blood Transfusion Tips
World Blood Donor Day takes place on 14 June each year. The Day was created to:
raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion;
highlight the critical contribution voluntary, unpaid blood donors make to national health systems;
support national blood transfusion services, blood donor organizations and other nongovernmental organizations in strengthening and expanding their voluntary blood donor programmes by reinforcing national and local campaigns.
The day also provides an opportunity to call to action governments and national health authorities to provide adequate resources to increase the collection of blood from voluntary, unpaid blood donors and to manage access to blood and the transfusion of those who require it.
Blood and blood products are essential resources for effective management of women suffering from bleeding associated with pregnancy and childbirth; children suffering from severe anaemia due to malaria and malnutrition; patients with blood and bone marrow disorders, inherited disorders of haemoglobin and immune deficiency conditions; victims of trauma, emergencies, disasters and accidents; as well as patients undergoing advanced medical and surgical procedures. The need for blood is universal, but access to blood for all those who need it is not. Blood shortages are particularly acute in low- and middle-income countries.
To ensure that everyone who needs transfusion has access to safe blood, all countries need voluntary, unpaid blood donors who give blood regularly. An effective blood donor programme, characterized by wide and active participation of the population, is crucial in meeting the need of blood transfusion during peace time as well as during emergencies or disasters, when there is a surge in demand for blood or when the normal operation of blood services is affected. While an enabling social and cultural atmosphere with strong solidarity facilitates development of an effective blood donor programme, it is also widely acknowledged that the act of blood donation contributes to generating social ties and building a united community.
Focus of this year’s campaign
For 2022, the World Blood Donor Day slogan is “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives” to draw attention to the roles that voluntary blood donations play in saving lives and enhancing solidarity within communities.
The specific objectives of this year’s campaign are to:
thank blood donors in the world and create wider public awareness of the need for regular, unpaid blood donation;
highlight the need for committed, year-round blood donation, to maintain adequate supplies and achieve universal and timely access to safe blood transfusion;
recognize and promote the values of voluntary unpaid blood donation in enhancing community solidarity and social cohesion;
raise awareness of the need for increased investment from governments to build a sustainable and resilient national blood system and increase collection from voluntary non-remunerated blood donors.
A particular activity that countries in the world are encouraged to implement for this year’s campaign is to disseminate to various media outlets stories of people whose lives have been saved through blood donation as a way of motivating regular blood donors to continue giving blood, and to motivate people in good health who have never given blood to begin doing so.
Other activities that would help promote the slogan of this year’s World Blood Donor Day may include donor appreciation ceremonies, social networking campaigns, special media broadcasts, social media posts featuring individual blood donors with the slogan, meetings and workshops, musical and artistic events to thank blood donors and celebrate solidarity, and colouring iconic monuments red.
Your involvement and support will help to ensure greater impact for World Blood Donor Day 2022, increasing recognition worldwide that giving blood is a life-saving act of solidarity and that services providing safe blood and blood products are an essential element of every health care system. Participation of interested partners is welcome at all levels to make World Blood Donor Day 2022 a global success.

Mnangagwa Pampers Loyalists With Cash As Nation Burns

S.A Fuel May Rise To R40 A Litre
The ongoing war in Ukraine is costing South Africa billions in lost revenues and added costs, and trade officials are concerned that further widespread disruptions to the local economy are likely.
The crisis led to a meeting last week between Western Cape agriculture MEC Ivan Meyer and the Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry at which Meyer outlined some of the key concerns and interventions stemming from the conflict, the Sunday Times reports.
Some of the specific concerns raised during the meeting include:
– The price of fuel may rise to as high as R40 a litre, with wheat farmers reporting a 100% increase in fertiliser prices;
– Scanning for explosives and weapons in Russia-bound containers increased transit time to St Petersburg from 23 days to 90;
– Moscow’s suspension from the Swift (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) global payments system delayed payment for exports to Russia.
“It goes without saying that rising fuel prices and the price of wheat-based commodities like bread will continue to rise if this is not nipped in the bud soon,” said Jannie Venter, business development/trade-lane manager at ISS — Global Forwarding SA and vice-chair of the Western Cape Exporters Club.
More hikes coming
Early forecasts show that South Africa is facing another steep petrol price in July, with other prices increases also set to take effect, said Investec chief economist Annabel Bishop in a research note on Wednesday (22 June).
Bishop said CPI inflation in June is expected to rise above 7.0% y/y on the R2.33/litre hike in the petrol price, base effects, food price pressures and potentially some second-round effects of rising inflation on rentals/owner equivalent rent and other categories.
“High commodity prices are flowing through rapidly to consumers in South Africa via higher transport and food prices, and another petrol price hike is currently building for July of R1.92/litre.
“We expect CPI inflation to average 6.5% y/y for this year, as the Russian/Ukraine war continues for longer than expected and the effects of the war, and deglobalisation, intensify on price pressures, causing inflation expectations to rise globally and domestically.”
She further warned against expectations for food and energy price collapses in the near term, with the Russian invasion of Ukraine intensifying, and so sanctions against Russia, and NATO now warning that the war could last for years, providing no end in sight for related price pressures.
Additionally, adverse weather conditions persist in some regions globally and domestically, and indeed are expected to intensify as climate change strengthens, she said.-BusinessTech
Police Uniformed Zanu Pf Thugs Terrorise CCC MPs In Nyatsime
By A Correspondent- Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Saturday claimed Zanu PF thugs in police uniforms were terrorising their legislators in Nyatsime, with one of them being robbed of a vehicle.
Nyatsime has been a no-go-area since the body of late CCC activist Moreblessing Ali was discovered dismembered, stuffed in sacks and thrown in a well.
Ali was killed by a suspected Zanu PF supporter for her anti-regime stance according to the opposition.
“Violence Alert: Suspected Zanu PF thugs in @PoliceZimbawe uniforms are terrorizing CCC legislators, councilors and other members in Chitungwiza and Nyatsime. The thugs robbed Hon Chimbaira of his car. They’re being persecuted for demanding justice for Moreblessing Ali,” said the CCC on Twitter.

Senior CIO Chef Hauled To Court Over Fraud, Extortion
A senior Central Intelligence Organisation officer Leonard Mutandwa appeared in court on Friday charged with fraud and extortion.
Mutandwa (48), the Divisional Intelligence Officer, was arrested alongside Charles Benjamin Chari (57) while another operative, Godknows Ganyani is allegedly on the run.
The complainant is a co-director of Welli-Will Industries Wilbert Makonese.
According to the police investigations, sometime in 2021, the complainant supplied goods worth US$392 000 to the Primary and Secondary Education ministry and received no payment.
Makonese was in dire need of the payment to enable him to repay a loan his company took from the Industrial Development Bank of Zimbabwe.
It is alleged that Mutandwa got wind of Makonese’s predicament, and hatched a plan to defraud and extort money from him.
Mutandwa and his co-accused offered to assist in the processing of the payment from the relevant ministry, but demanded kickbacks for their efforts.
Makonese succumbed to the pressure and gave the accused US$1 500.
On November 22, the trio duped Makonese again after misrepresenting that the Office of the President wanted him to donate US$10 000 to an unnamed charity organisation.
The complainant gave the trio US$4 000 towards the donation.
The trio further demanded another US$500 claiming it was a facilitation fee.
Makonese was also forced to pay for Ganyani’s travel expenses from Chiredzi, including hotel bills totalling US$4 000 and US$450 to buy new clothes.
It was also alleged that on June 21 this year, the trio demanded US$30 000 from Makonese, claiming that it was a payment for having facilitated prompt payment of the money which he was owed by the ministry.
But Makonese had not received payment from the ministry.
The trio started threatening Makonese, saying he would face unspecified action if he failed to pay them the money.
Makonese became suspicious of the the trio’s claims and threats and realised that he had been duped.
He filed a police report and a trap was set, leading to the arrest of Mutandwa on June 22 at Makonese’s business premises where he had gone to collect some money.
Mutandwa then implicated Chari.-standard
