Fresh Details On Mai TT Chopper Crash

By- The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed a helicopter crash that occurred in the Mhondoro area on Sunday afternoon, killing the pilot on the spot.

The plane came down in Lothin Farm popularly known as kwaJojo in Mhondoro-Chivero, less than 100 metres from a homestead.

ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi on Monday said the deceased pilot was flying a private R44 helicopter.

Eyewitnesses who spoke to The Herald said the helicopter was flying low from the Mupfure River direction, heading towards Harare, before it crashed on a mountain. Musekiwa Mapunde said:

It seemed as if the pilot wanted to fly past trees in the mountain but failed, resulting in the helicopter hitting a tree branch and within seconds, we heard a loud bang.

The sound of the helicopter was just like that of small planes. I then rushed from my homestead as the helicopter had crashed near my neighbour’s compound.

We then discovered that the helicopter had crashed with wreckage all over the place, we tried to save the life of the pilot, but it was too late as he was dead.

Within minutes, a neighbourhood officer arrived and managed to get in touch with the police who then attended the scene.

Another eyewitness, Elson Mangani, whose homestead is the nearest to the crash scene, said he could tell the plane was flying low by its sound. He said:

I was inside my house and only heard the sound of the helicopter which was clear that it was flying low.

I was not taken aback since planes usually pass through the area. There was my son outside who witnessed the plane crashing and shouted while seeking protection.

At that moment I then rushed outside only to witness pieces of the helicopter hanging on trees in the mountain and its sound when crashing.

Reports indicate that the private helicopter was the same plane that ferried comedienne Mai TT to her wedding in Chisipite, Harare on Saturday.

Mwonzora MPs, Zanu PF Alliance Exposed

By- Binga North MP, Prince Dubeko Sibanda (CCC), has exposed the shenanigans which the Douglas Mwonzora MPs were doing in parliament.

Sibanda said parliament will now provide real oversight over Government departments following the election of nineteen (19) legislators from the opposition party.

Dubeko Sibanda claimed that Parliament had become a place of gentlemen’s agreement between ZANU PF and MDC-T after Douglas Mwonzora recalled dozens of MDC Alliance MPs.

Since the recalls started in 2020, the remaining MDC Alliance MPs have voted together with ZANU PF to approve Constitution Amendment Bill No.1 and Constitution Amendment Bill No.2.

Speaking in a recent interview with OpenParly, Dubeko Sibanda said CCC MPs will hold the Government to account and ensure that things are done the proper way. He said:

People were having challenges with oversight, over government departments in our communities. For example, if any government department was not doing things in a manner that they are supposed to be done people had nobody to resort to, but now with the MPs back it is easy to say to a government depart why are you not doing things in the proper way it is supposed to be done.

So, oversight is going to be seen again, representativeness is going to happen again. We know that Parliament had virtually become a circus immediately after the recalls to an extent that it had become a place of gentlemen’s agreement where ZANU PF and the other party were all agreeing and moving together without considering the will of the people.

So, we believe that now ZANU PF and its government are going to be made to be accountable because representatives of the people are back.

Sibanda garnered 10 130 votes, defeating Kudakwashe Mavula Munsaka of ZANU-PF who came second with 7 971 votes in the 26 March by-elections.

Chebundo Angers Mnangagwa

By- Former MDC-T legislator Blessing Chebundo has reportedly lost respect among President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s supporters in Kwekwe after the ZANU PF candidates for Kwekwe Central (John Mapurazi) and Mbizo (Vongai Mupereri) were defeated by CCC candidates in the 26 March by-elections.

Chebundo had promised Mnangagwa that he will use his vast influence in former MDC structures to deliver the two urban seats to ZANU PF.

ZANU PF lost to Settlement Chikwinya (Mbizo) and Judith Tobaiwa (Kwekwe Central) despite Chebundo’s promises to the ruling party. Speaking in an interview before the by-elections, Chebundo said:

Over 1 000 people defected from the opposition to join ZANU PF in Kwekwe. It is because these people had seen that ZANU PF is the only party that is going to take us to Canaan.

There is no way the opposition is going to win Mbizo and Kwekwe, I declare that I am taking Kwekwe Central to its rightful owners, which is ZANU PF.

I have no doubt that ZANU PF has what it takes and has a chance to win both Kwekwe Central and Mbizo.

I am going to work and make sure that we achieve what we target, to have those two seats going back to ZANU PF.

It’s the confidence that is making me say that and also looking at the kind of individuals fielded by the opposition and when I assess them l don’t see that they have the stamina to defeat ZANU PF.

Mbizo MP Settlement Chikwinya (CCC) said Chebundo has no influence within the opposition party.

He said Chebundo is seeking protection from ZANU PF officials after he broke the law.

Man On The Run After Stabbing Friend

Police in Shurugwi have launched a manhunt for one Hardlife Mudzingwa who allegedly fatally stabbed his friend following a misunderstanding over a woman.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Midlands Province Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said Mudzingwa stabbed Blessing Mxotshwa who was his friend after he discovered that they were dating the same woman. Said Insp Mahoko:

Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating a case of murder where a man was stabbed to death over a girlfriend in Shurugwi.

Hardlife Mudzingwa, aged 30, and Blessing Mxotshwa, aged 30, of Village 14 Tokwe 3 Valley, Shurugwi, were friends.

Hardlife, the suspect, in this case, discovered that they were in love with the same woman, aged 24.

Insp Mahoko said on Friday last week at around 7.50 PM, Mudzingwa allegedly visited his girlfriend at her home and she refused to open the door for him. Added Insp Mahoko:

This did not go down well with the suspect who forcibly gained entry, through a broken dining room window, and discovered that she was with Blessing Mxotshwa.

An argument arose between the suspect and Blessing Mxotshwa.

The suspect produced a knife and stabbed Blessing Mxotshwa once in the neck and fled the scene. – H- Metro

Centre No Longer Holding For Togarasei Mwonzora

By-MDC Alliance councillors in Bulawayo are said to be planning to dump their party President Douglas Mwonzora.

This came out of a caucus meeting of the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) two weeks ago.

The CCC caucus was chaired by former Bulawayo deputy mayor, Tinashe Kambarami and former Bulawayo Senator, Matson Hlalo.

The caucus reportedly discussed a possible move for the councillors to pass a vote of no confidence against the city’s Town Clerk, Christopher Dube and the Mayor, Councillor Solomon Mguni.

In leaked audio to the Councillors’ WhatsApp group, Clr Ndlovu accused MDC Alliance Councillors of being sell-outs, claiming that the majority are planning to ditch Mwonzora just before the 2023 general elections. Ndlovu said:

I have a question Bulawayo councillors, I will exclude two people or just maybe one from this group, and the person I will remove is the chief whip, Clr Silas Chigora.

I will exclude you chief whip because you stand for what you say. People have been accusing you of causing the recall of councillors until we realised that you are innocent and you have clearly stated that you are a member of the MDC-T.

What I would like to know is who exposed me that I attended the CCC caucus, who leaked, I am asking, who exposed me.

I would like to say the truth right now and right here that even the MDC-T president Mwonzora is dull, if he was clever he would recall all the sell-outs from Bulawayo.

In this group there is not even one councillor going with Mwonzora, the majority of you are saying they will leave him during the last days of your terms.

Ndlovu further claimed that there were some MDC Alliance Councillors who attended a meeting with CCC leader Nelson Chamisa in Harare, recently.

When contacted for a comment by The Sunday News, Ndlovu confirmed that she was indeed the one speaking in the audio and stood by what she said.

Reports suggest that the majority of MDC Alliance MPs and Councillors across the country now support Chamisa after Mwonzora’s party failed to win a single parliamentary seat or ward in the 26 March by-elections.

New COVID-19 Variant In Botswana

By – The government of Botswana has announced that it had detected a new covid-19 variant.

Below is the full statement by the Botswana government on the new covid-19 variant:

The Ministry of Health and Wellness wishes to inform members of the public that our scientists have been investigating new coronavirus mutations detected in Botswana.

On further analysis and verification, these mutations which have been so far detected in four people in Botswana, have been noted as a new sub-lineage of the Omicron variant.

The preliminary finding of this new sublineage in Botswana has been designated as Omicron BA.4 and BA.5.

The four cases are currently being monitored to gather more information about the potential impact on disease spread and severity.

The foursome comprises residents and non-residents aged between 30 and 50 years, two being non-residents who had a recent travel history.

The quartet is fully vaccinated and has been experiencing only mild symptoms. The same new sublineage has also been reported in three other countries.

The ministry, in collaboration with other stakeholders including regional and international bodies, is still studying the properties and characteristics of this Omicron sub lineage in order to gain more data and knowledge about its behaviour.

So far, no conclusions have been made yet, in relation to whether or not, the sub-lineage is more deadly and more transmissible than the known Omicron variant.

Similarly, investigations on whether COVID-19 vaccines are effective against this sublineage are ongoing.

Although it is common for viruses to mutate as they spread from one person to another, some mutations become responsible for high infection rates and cause severe disease.

This would be due to among others, changes in virus behaviour and characteristics. When this happens, the new variant could be determined as a variant of concern (VOC).

These new specific changes are always subject to further investigations and verification with the world scientific community.

The ministry awaits further guidance from World Health Organization (WHO) on how to manage its transmission.

At the moment, the ministry calls upon members of the public, not to panic but to continue being vigilant.

The public is further encouraged to vaccinate and take their booster shots, if eligible.

This is important because in the event new variants of COVID-19 emerge and spark a new wave of infections (fifth wave), the impact may be more severe for the unvaccinated.

The ministry will keep the public informed about any new developments in this matter.

Thank you.

Yours faithfully

Dr Christopher Nyanga

Mafume Wins Bounced Back

The CCC party’s mayor, Jacob Mafume (Harare) has won his case against removal from office.

The development follows multiple recalls of MPs and councillors from Nelson Chamisa’s party since 2020.

Mafume yesterday won his battle against Local Government minister July Moyo, with the High Court barring both the council and the minister from seeking to replace him.
Moyo had announced the vacancy, claiming that Mafume had been recalled by a faction of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The order followed an application by Mafume and Mutare mayor Simon Chabuka and Arnold Batirai Dube, a former Bulawayo councillor who challenged their recall by the PDP faction.

High Court judge Justice Munamato Mutevedzi upheld Mafume’s application.

Mafume, Chabuka and Dube had challenged their dismissal by Moyo.

The trio sought an order that their recall be declared null and void and unconstitutional.

Moyo said the PDP had notified him of the trio’s suspension through a letter dated March 28, 2022.

The trio had won the seats under the 2018 MDC Alliance pact, of which PDP was a member.

Moyo had instructed the town clerks of Harare, Mutare and Bulawayo to inform the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission of the vacancies in terms of section 278 of the Constitution, saying they had joined a new political party, the Citizens Coalition for Change.

But Mafume argued that they belonged to the PDP faction led by Tendai Biti, who had not recalled them.

They cited Moyo, the Harare, Bulawayo and the Mutare town clerks as respondents as they sought an interdict declaring the Local Government minister’s letters null and void.

They also sought an order on costs on a punitive scale.– Newsday

Mai Titi Pilot Chopper Crash

The helicopter that crashed near Chibhero Agricultural College in Mhondoro on Sunday was privately owned and resulted in the death of its pilot, officials said yesterday.
The chopper was owned by Chikopokopo Helicopter Tours in Victoria Falls and had ferried comedian Felistas Murata, popularly known as Mai Titi to her wedding in Chisipite, Harare, the previous day.

The pilot, who was alone when the crash happened, was identified as Peter Chirimuuto.

Chikopokopo proprietor Lloyd Muchaka yesterday confirmed to NewsDay: “Yes, it is true that the chopper belonged to us. The pilot was the only one on board and he was on duty.”

Contacted for comment by NewsDay yesterday, police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said: “I am waiting for a full briefing.”

In a Facebook post yesterday Mai Titi said she was traumatised by Chirimuuto’s death.

“Just this morning people called me saying your pilot crashed and passed away soon after dropping me, I am thinking it is just false rumours. I didn’t know him. I just booked for Chikopokopo services and when I went on board he opened the door for me, saluted and said: ‘I’m honoured to be taking you to your big day’,” Mai Titi said.

“May his family be comforted, this is a terrible time. Ah God, why? My brother, I don’t know what to say. May your soul rest in peace and thank you for the hospitality you gave me those few minutes I knew you,” she said.

Two police officers were guarding the wreckage, with some pieces from the wings seen hanging on a tree about 10 metres away.

An eyewitness, Mr Musekiwa Mapunde told The Herald that : “It seemed as if the pilot wanted to fly past trees in the mountain but failed, resulting in the helicopter hitting a tree branch and within seconds, we heard a loud bang.

“The sound of the helicopter was just like that of small planes. I then rushed from my homestead as the helicopter had crashed near my neighbour’s compound.”

Mr Mapunde said he then met eight other villagers who directed them to the exact site of the crash in the mountain.

“We then discovered that the helicopter had crashed with wreckage all over the place, we tried to save the life of the pilot, but it was too late as he was dead. Within minutes, a neighbourhood officer arrived and managed to get in touch with the police who then attended the scene,” said Mr Mapunde.

Mr Elson Mangani, whose homestead is the nearest to the crash scene, said his family escaped death by a whisker.

“I was inside my house and only heard the sound of the helicopter which was clear that it was flying low.

“I was not taken aback since planes usually pass through the area. There was my son outside who witnessed the plane crashing and shouted while seeking protection.

“At that moment I then rushed outside only to witness pieces of the helicopter hanging on trees in the mountain and its sound when crashing,” he said.

Another witness, Mrs Elizabeth Kacheche, said she remains terrified “even up to now”.

“I am yet to come to terms with the horrific incident since it is my first time encountering such experience,” she said.

Another helicopter was also forced to crash land recently after developing a technical fault in the same area.- state media

About Air Pollution

Almost the entire global population (99%) breathes air that exceeds WHO air quality limits, and threatens their health.

A record number of over 6000 cities in 117 countries are now monitoring air quality, but the people living in them are still breathing unhealthy levels of fine particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide, with people in low and middle-income countries suffering the highest exposures.

The findings have prompted the World Health Organization to highlight the importance of curbing fossil fuel use and taking other tangible steps to reduce air pollution levels.

Released in the lead-up to World Health Day, which this year celebrates the theme Our planet, our health, the 2022 update of the World Health Organization’s air quality database introduces, for the first time, ground measurements of annual mean concentrations of nitrogen dioxide (NO2), a common urban pollutant and precursor of particulate matter and ozone. It also includes measurements of particulate matter with diameters equal or smaller than 10 μm (PM10) or 2.5 μm (PM2.5).

Both groups of pollutants originate mainly from human activities related to fossil fuel combustion.

The new air quality database is the most extensive yet in its coverage of air pollution exposure on the ground.

Some 2,000 more cities/human settlements are now recording ground monitoring data for particulate matter – PM10 and/or PM2.5 – than the last update. This marks an almost 6-fold rise in reporting since the database was launched in 2011.

Meanwhile, the evidence base for the damage air pollution does to the human body has been growing rapidly and points to significant harm caused by even low levels of many air pollutants.

Particulate matter, especially PM2.5, is capable of penetrating deep into the lungs and entering the bloodstream, causing cardiovascular, cerebrovascular (stroke) and respiratory impacts.

There is emerging evidence that particulate matter impacts other organs and causes other diseases as well.

NO2 is associated with respiratory diseases, particularly asthma, leading to respiratory symptoms (such as coughing, wheezing or difficulty breathing), hospital admissions and visits to emergency rooms

WHO last year revised its Air Quality Guidelines, making them more stringent in an effort to help countries better evaluate the healthiness of their own air.

“Current energy concerns highlight the importance of speeding up the transition to cleaner, healthier energy systems,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “High fossil fuel prices, energy security, and the urgency of addressing the twin health challenges of air pollution and climate change, underscore the pressing need to move faster towards a world that is much less dependent on fossil fuels.”

Steps governments can take to improve air quality and health
A number of governments are taking steps to improve air quality, but WHO is calling for a rapid intensification of actions to:

adopt or revise and implement national air quality standards according to the latest

WHO Air Quality Guidelines;
monitor air quality and identify sources of air pollution;
support the transition to exclusive use of clean household energy for cooking, heating and lighting;
build safe and affordable public transport systems and pedestrian- and cycle-friendly networks;
implement stricter vehicle emissions and efficiency standards; and enforce mandatory inspection and maintenance for vehicles;
invest in energy-efficient housing and power generation;
improve industry and municipal waste management;
reduce agricultural waste incineration, forest fires and certain agro-forestry activities (e.g. charcoal production); and
include air pollution in curricula for health professionals and providing tools for the health sector to engage.

WHO’s Air Quality Guidelines

The evidence base for the harm caused by air pollution has been growing rapidly and points to significant harm caused by even low levels of many air pollutants. Last year, the WHO responded by revising its Air Quality Guidelines to reflect the evidence, making them more stringent, especially for PM and NO2, a move strongly supported by the health community, medical associations and patient organizations.

The 2022 database aims to monitor the state of the world’s air and feeds into progress tracking of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Call For Mine Workers to Register And Vote Opposition into Power

– last resort –
HARARE – As the momentum for the electoral cycle nears 2023 Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Government General Elections, workers and their dependants have been urged to register to vote as Union puts hope for economic relief of all mine workers in Zimbabwe in the wise casting of their vote.

by Maxwell Teedzai | “This Government does not see us as human because as miners and our dependants, we’re apathetic as far as involvement in general elections is concerned and that makes it hardly possible for us to effectively push for better working conditions for ourselves and my position as President of NMWUZ is for all mine workers to vote for President Nelson Chamisa and his ruling opposition CCC – Citizen Coalition for Change as last resort in our quest to deliver a living wage adjustment for all mine workers, a plea which the present Government has repeatedly refused to honor,” said Kurebwa Javangwe Nomboka, the President of the NMWUZ – Mine Workers Union of Zimbabwe.
Government has since availed US$98 million to the Zimstat – Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency for the 2022 population and housing census slated for April 21 this year.

However, NMWUZ has emphasised the need not to politicise the census results and called on nuetrality in the delimitation of constituencies so that demacations do not disadvantage one side while making the other a frog-leap ahead.

Nomboka added, “We’re worried that the 2022 census might be hi-jacked by manipulative elements, as media reports have been circulating that Zimstat is under siege from Zanu PF officials who are politicising the recruitment of youth enumerators for the upcoming census.”

Following a recent cabinet resolution to reserve a youth quota in the employment of census enumerators, Zanu PF youth league officials have annointed themselves recruiting officers, thereby overriding government employment protocols.

Meanwhile Minister of Finance Mr Mthuli Ncube has since introduced the new one hundred dollar note. The move has left many citizens bamboozled as to what value the raising of inflation will give to our already crippled economy.
“We do not understand what value the raising of our local economy will do with the coming of the new one hundred dollar note.”

Apparently, Government of Zimbabwe through the Finance ministry has recently hiked interest rate on all rtgs$ bank loans.
“The move by Government to increase interest rate of rtgs$ is severe blow to mine workers who are servicing their bank loans while their income has remained stagnant with insignificantly low salary adjustments”.
Ironically, the new hundred dollar note cannot buy a cob of roasted mealies. On a space of sixty days prices of basic commodities and public transport, including fuel have been increased by approximately three hundred percent.

The extractives sector is the biggest foreign currency earner in Zimbabwe yet mind workers are the poorest.

It is progressive that for serious economic recovery to take place in Zimbabwe, Government must take seriously the welfare of mine workers.

The 2016 USAID Strategic Economic Research and Analysis – Zimbabwe (SERA) Program on Wage Structure and Labour Costs in Zimbabwe: Analysis of Flexibility, Competitiveness and Equity noted that the recovery of the economy of Zimbabwe will been underpinned by the primary and resource sectors (agriculture and mining) and that the contribution of the mining sector to GDP rose from 8.1 per cent in 2009 to 10.4 per cent in 2013 and 15.2 percent in 2014 while the contribution of the agriculture sector declined from 15.1 per cent in 009 to 12.8 per cent in 2013 before improving to 14.8 per cent in 2014.

“The cost of living for mine workers is way down below the PDL – Poverty Datum Line and no wage package consistent with a dignified and decent lifestyle has been brought forth.”

The NMWUZ President has since called for immediate dialogue with Government (Finance ministry and the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor) to find the best way forward in recapacitating mine workers who are living in squalid conditions and starving in the midst of plenty. The areas to be dialogued include the need to scrap off import duty on vehicles and equipment, reducing interest rates on mortgages and special rtgs$ bank loans.

Soldier Runs Amock, Shoots Villager

By- A Beitbridge villager Knowledge Sibanda has been shot and injured by a soldier as he was driving near the now-defunct River Ranch Diamond Mine.

When police officers attended the scene, the soldier’s colleagues allegedly chased them away and destroyed evidence.

The incident happened last Thursday.

National police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said he can only get finer details about the issue on Monday.

“If you can call me tomorrow I might have details. At the moment I don’t have much,” Nyathi said.
“They fired at me and hit my car nine times. They had not even attempted to stop me, when I passed by they just started opening fire. When police based at Makakavhule Clinic tried to attend to the scene, the soldiers chased them away,” Sibanda told NewsDay.
“I was grazed by a bullet in the head, but I do not have serious injuries. These people (soldiers) are causing a lot of problems in our village, and we have no protection because they are a law unto themselves. You should have seen how they humiliated the police,” he said.
Confusion is reigning supreme in Beitbridge where an operation against smuggling has been on-going, and has resulted in people beaten up or dying in the hands of law enforcement agents.
In December last year, police detective Sergeant Sikhelele Ncube told the court that a tout called Abel Gumbo who operated at the border town was shot by the police in Lutumba in May this year after he was mistaken for an armed robber.
Gumbo whose family is yet to get justice was shot dead by a policeman who was part of a team deployed in an operation against smuggling. Newsday

Chebundo Fools Mnangagwa

Former Airforce Pilot Dies In Chopper Crash

By- A former Airforce of Zimbabwe pilot has died in a helicopter crash.

Captain Peter Chirimuuta was the pilot of a helicopter that ferried comedienne Mai TT, real name Felistas Murata, to her wedding in Chisipite on Saturday.
He was a SACAA Licenced Commercial Helicopter R44 and AB412 Pilot.

Chirimuuta was reportedly a former Squadron Commander and Military Pilot at the Airforce of Zimbabwe and was involved in many disaster rescue operations in the country.

AFZ public relations officer, Simon Matingwina has since confirmed the crash but said the helicopter was not theirs.
I know about the crash, but it was not our helicopter. I think Mhondoro police attended the scene.

In a Facebook post this Monday, Mai TT said she called the owner of the helicopter who confirmed the crash after receiving calls from several people asking about the incident. She wrote:
Just this morning people called me saying your pilot crashed and passed away soon after dropping me, I’m thinking it’s just false rumours.
I’m calling the owner of the Helicopters I booked from he confirmed it’s true he crashed and died the next day on Sunday as he was coming from picking up another client.
I don’t know him I just booked for Chikopokopo services and when I went on board he opened the door for me saluted and said I’m honoured to be taking you to your big day
Becky called at the same time and said can you delay coming to the venue by 20 minutes? He said no ma’am, I got to take you now because a dark cloud is coming was this the dark cloud he meant? I’m traumatized right now.
My brother I don’t know what to say, may your soul Rest In Peace and thank you even if I don’t know you personally for the hospitality you gave me those few minutes I knew you.
May his family be comforted this is terrible time. Ah God, why???
The helicopter crashed on Sunday, reportedly near Chibhero College in Mhondoro. The pilot was alone when the plane crashed.

Chamisa Aide Exposes Mwonzora MPs Shenanigans

Zanu PF Youths Displace Census Conducting Teachers

By-The Zimbabwe Statistical Agency (Zimstat) has released several teachers who had been hired and trained as enumerators for the national population census and replaced them with ZANU PF youths.

The teachers were fired from the programme for allegedly participating in the strike which took place in February when schools opened for the first term.

Teacher enumerators who had just completed training at Bulawayo Polytechnic told NewZimbabwe.com that they were asked to hand over their census material to ZANU PF youths and leave the venue on Saturday. One of the teachers said:

All along, the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency has been using state resources to train us, only to be told when we are about to be deployed that we were on strike and therefore we are not suitable for the job.

For starters, I have never been on strike. Now, who is going to pay me for the time I spent while undergoing the enumeration training?

Another affected teacher, who is now contemplating suing Zimstat for breach of contract, said the move is cruel, vindictive and illegal. Said the teacher:

The move to suspend teachers was declared illegal by the High Court.

Why are the government and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education so petty to the extent of denying the suffering teachers an opportunity to earn extra income for their children?

Zimstat spokesperson, Mercy Chidemo, said she had no information about the alleged incident at Bulawayo Polytechnic but said teachers who were deemed to be on strike were barred from participating in the census. She said:

I am not really sure about what happened, but I am sure you are aware of a memo that was sent to PSC [Public Service Commission] that they should not hire teachers who were on strike.

So, in this case, the PSC coordinators were responsible for recruiting the enumerators.

There were teachers that were on incapacitation/strike that had sneaked into classes.

So the PED (provincial education director) said they should not participate and they sent them packing yesterday evening.

They were replaced by other teachers from MoPSE (Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education).

Robert Mugabe Under Fire For Embracing Dad’s Tormentors

Credit: The Standard

By Dr Stop It !

I really don’t understand why Junior would want to be cozy with his father’s tormentors. The very people that Baba rejected on his dying bed.

I was tempted to think that he wants to destroy the party from inside, but then that’s an awful strategy.

Jonso with all his political acumen and big education tried that, but where is he today?

So destroying from inside is naive and I don’t think Junior has got what it takes.

That boy has Baba’s name, but he goes on to betray Gushungo in such fashion.

I need to have a word with him or I am disinheriting him for betraying Baba.

To be clear, these people tormented Baba when he was alive and now they are tormenting him in death.

That whole exhumation ruse is the continuation of Baba’s tormentation.

Why Junior would want to even associate with these people beats me.

And that profit that he spends his time with really gets on my nerves.

I did well with Bona, but I feel with the boys I have been a terrible parent.

Baba is surely turning in his grave.

Speaking of children, whatever happened to Bertha, Dougie’s daughter, she’s gone silent. I’m beginning to worry about her well-being.

You see, Bertha was very vocal about her father’s supposed political support.

In fact, she thought he was going to be the next president.

But the March by-elections have put Dougie in his place and effectively silenced his loudmouth daughter.

Just like her father, her silence on Twitter has been deafening since that epic harvest of zeros.

To be fair, I’m not attacking Dougie’s family and I’m not being personal, but Bertha is fair game because of the way she was toxic on social media where she hallucinated about her father’s supposed support.

The by-elections were a rude awakening and I don’t think we will be hearing from Madam Bertha for a while.

Did she really think her father would win elections or was she doing it for “likes” on social media, kkk?

Maybe I’m being hard on her, let’s wait for 2023, maybe their fortunes will improve.

A key question though is what’s next for Dougie. The posturing is over and his support or lack thereof is now clear.

In fact, he is now literally a footnote in Zimbabwe’s political history.

Zimbabweans do love distractions and petty arguments.

In the past few days the debate has been whether CCC is a new party or not.

CCC say they are a new party formed before the by-elections. They lost their name, money and parliamentary seats to Dougie.

While this may seem unimportant, it gives them bragging rights that a one-month old party achieved as much as they did in the by-elections.

On the other hand, Zanu PF argues that CCC is nothing but old wine in a new cask. The faces are the same, the strategy the same, they argue.

I won’t get involved in the argument, but just to say if the CCC isn’t new, what is new about the so-called new dispensation?

Launchmore has been part of the government for 42 years.

Oppah, Kembo, Mudenda etc have all been in the echelons of power for donkey years and today you want to tell me there’s anything new about them.

What a joke, kkk.

I hope you now realise why this is a silly debate.

My sincerest condolences to the family of Elvis Nyathi.

Nyathi died in the most gruesome manner possible, first being pelted with rocks before being burned.

Nobody deserves to die in such a cruel manner.

One thing though that we have to discuss is that if Zimbabwe had employment opportunities, people like Elvis would not have found reason to go to South Africa.

Everyday we are bombarded with statistics of how well the economy is doing and how low our unemployment rate is.

If these stats were any true, then there would be more jobs created and there would be no reason for people to go to South Africa for jobs.

The death of Elvis is regrettable and would have been avoided if this country provided economic opportunities for its citizens.

That Elvis died in South Africa is a stain on the conscience of all Zimbabweans and is an illustration of this government’s endemic failures.

Don’t get me wrong, migration to South Africa is as old as colonialism, but what’s worrying is the sheer volumes of people that are leaving Zimbabwe for neighbouring countries.

Instead of posturing and issuing pointless statements, there is need for soul searching from the government.

As long as the economy isn’t conducive, more Zimbabweans will trek to South Africa and this will give rise to xenophobia.

Bulawayo City Coach Claims Players Were Bribed

Bulawayo City coach Philani “Beefy” Ncube has claimed that some of his players engaged in match-fixing after his side lost 2-0 to FC Platinum on Saturday.

City conceded the goals in the second following howlers from both the defenders and keeper Bhekimpilo Ncube.

The goalie was later replaced by Reward Muza.

Speaking after the match Ncube said: “You cannot rule out match fixing considering how we conceded those goals.

“A seasoned goalkeeper comes out when the striker and the defender are 50/50, he cries that the ball is his, we concede again the next thing we substitute him, he limps.”

The gaffer added: “We played a team (FC Platinum) that perhaps outplayed us for the entire game. The way they played and the way we played, we deserved to lose. We failed to come out of our shelves and hence we conceded two stupid goals.”

The defeat was City’s seventh defeat in this season, with their only win of the season coming against Highlanders at the end of February.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Caps United Dismiss Yadah

CAPS United jumped into the seventh position after beating Yadah 1-0 in a matchday 11 encounter played on Sunday.

The Green Machine got their winning goal in the 38th minute through Phineas Bamusi, who slotted home a loose ball off Valentine Musarurwa’s corner-kick.

The home team managed to hold on to their lead until the end of the game but were reduced to ten-man when Marshall Machazane received a straight red card for a crude challenge on an opponent.

Meanwhile, Yadah remains in the drop zone following the result in Harare.

Elsewhere, Highlanders came from behind to salvage a 2-2 draw against Cranborne Bullets.

Bosso conceded two quick goals in the early stages of the half and were later forced to make a tactical change just after the half-hour mark.

The team soon launched their comeback, with the equaliser coming in the 77th minute through Lynoth Chikuwa.

In another Matchday 11 encounter, Bulawayo Chiefs drew 0-0 against Manica Diamonds in Mutare.

Jordan Zemura Suffers Terrible Injury

Jordan Zemura suffered an injury on Saturday when he limped off in Bournemouth’s 0-0 against Sheffield United.

Zemura hobbled off during the closing stages of the game, and according to coach Scott Parker, the 22-year-old suffered a hamstring problem.

Asked for an update on the player’s injury, Parker told the Daily Echo: “It doesn’t look great. I’m not surprised, because you’re asking a human being to do a three-game week, two away games.

“The turnaround is remarkable. Today, 12.45pm kick-off or whatever it was.

“These players are humans and soft tissue injuries come through fatigue, come from overwork and it looks like Jordan maybe have suffered with a bit of a hamstring injury.

“I worried about that a little bit before the game. Those were the things on my mind really in that sense.

“I know how fit my squad are – we are the fittest factually in this division.

“The intensity we play at, I know those demands are pretty high. It’s just a shame that today one has had to suffer a little bit in Jordan, just back-end.”

This is the second time this season that Zemura has suffered an injury. He spent over a month on the sidelines after suffering a leg injury in November.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Liverpool, Manchester City Share Spoils

Liverpool twice came from behind to keep the Premier League title race on a knife edge with a pulsating 2-2 draw at Manchester City.

Kevin De Bruyne’s deflected effort gave champions City a sixth-minute lead but the visitors were back on terms seven minutes later at the Etihad Stadium through Diogo Jota.

Gabriel Jesus — a surprise selection — sprung the Liverpool offside trap to score his first Premier League goal since September in the 37th minute, but Mohamed Salah played in Sadio Mane to give the visitors a flying start to the second period.

There was no let-up in the attacking intent but neither side could find a winner, meaning Pep Guardiola’s men remain a point ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s side at the summit with seven games remaining.

Guardiola opted for an aggressive front three of Raheem Sterling, Phil Foden and Jesus and, after Sterling drew an early save from Alisson at close quarters, De Bruyne’s strike spun off Joel Matip to leave the Liverpool goalkeeper with no chance.

Liverpool responded impressively, with Trent Alexander-Arnold knocking Andy Robertson’s floated ball back across goal for Jota to score his 15th Premier League goal of the season.

But it was City’s attacking full-backs who were the story of the opening period. Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo each rampaged forward and the Portugal international’s lovely floated pass found Jesus’ probing run for him to lift a clever finish beyond his compatriot in the Liverpool goal.

Foden flashed a couple of dangerous balls across the face of the Reds’ box and Klopp’s men needed half-time. After the break, they were transformed.

Salah ducked into midfield to produce a delicious pass. Walker played Mane onside and a dead-eyed finish followed.

Jota forced a sharp stop from Ederson shortly afterwards but, although it was a more even contest in the second period, the better chances still fell City’s way.

Sterling coolly rolled the ball home, only to be denied by a VAR offside after the hour and a newly emboldened Jesus lashed wastefully into the side netting.

Perhaps the best chance arrived deep into stoppage time as the indomitable De Bruyne strode through midfield and released City’s top scorer Riyad Mahrez. The substitute spied a Hollywood moment but sent his chip sailing over.- Sporting News

Health Tips: Air Quality Guidelines

WHO Air Quality Guidelines;
monitor air quality and identify sources of air pollution;
support the transition to exclusive use of clean household energy for cooking, heating and lighting;
build safe and affordable public transport systems and pedestrian- and cycle-friendly networks;
implement stricter vehicle emissions and efficiency standards; and enforce mandatory inspection and maintenance for vehicles;
invest in energy-efficient housing and power generation;
improve industry and municipal waste management;
reduce agricultural waste incineration, forest fires and certain agro-forestry activities (e.g. charcoal production); and
include air pollution in curricula for health professionals and providing tools for the health sector to engage.

Munopenga, Dr Stop It Rubbishes Mnangagwa, Robert Mugabe Junior Pact

Malawi Police Arrest Journalist, Demand Source of Information

Malawi police on 4 April 2022 raided the offices of Platform for Investigative Journalism (PIJ), where they arrested the outfit’s managing director Gregory Gondwe.

The police confiscated Gondwe’s computers and phones in what they described as a normal crime-busting exercise.

The police also demanded that Gondwe release the names of his sources.

Nyasa Times reported that National Police publicist, James Kadadzera, confirmed the arrest, saying the investigative journalist was picked over a story published in relation to huge sums of money the Anti-Corruption Bureau reportedly paid to businessman, Zuneth Sattar, against the advice of the Attorney-General, Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda.

Gondwe was released a few hours later, without any charges being preferred against him. His gadgets have since been returned.

The Malawi Human Rights Commission has since indicated that it will investigate Gondwe’s arrest.

MISA is worried at the increasing number of arbitrary arrests of journalists in Malawi.

Of particular concern to MISA is that the law enforcement agents demanded that Gondwe reveal his sources.

Malawi’s Access to Information Act protects the rights of whistleblowers and in this regard, the police should not have arrested Gondwe demanding him to reveal his sources.

Furthermore, MISA calls on the Malawian government to enact laws that have clauses that specifically protect journalists’ sources.

This promotes transparency and accountability and enhances access to information.

For instance, Section 61 of the Zimbabwean Constitution protects the confidentiality of journalists’ sources of information.

MISA urges the MHRC to leave no stone unturned in investigating the circumstances leading to Gondwe’s arrest and all those implicated should be brought to book.

Opposition Activist Who Was Sprayed With A Dangerous Chemical Removed From Remand

By A Correspondent| Two Harare residents Lengwani Mavhunga and Munyaradzi Mafararikwa have been set free today and removed from remand after they were arrested, detained and tortured in April 2021 before being charged with obstructing or endangering free movement of persons or traffic.

Mavhunga and Mafararikwa, who were represented by Webster Jiti of the ZimbabweLawyers for Human Rights, were hospitalised at Parirenyatwa Hospital after they were assaulted and tortured in detention while Mavhunga’s face was sprayed with a white substance.

In removing the duo from remand, the Magistrate ruled that Mavhunga and Mafararikwa have a right to a fair trial and public trial within a reasonable time of which they were not tried since they were arrested on 15 April 2021.

Prosecutors were ordered to proceed by summoning the two if they intend to prosecute them again.

Second Voter Registration Exercise Launched

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) on Monday launches the second phase of its mobile voter registration exercise after the first outreach in February.

ZEC registered 81,742 new voters in the first exercise which ran between February 1 and 28.The latest campaign, which has fewer registration centres, will end on April 30.In a statement on Sunday, ZEC said centres would open from 7AM until 5.30PM.

Masvingo province will have the most registration centres, 276 in total, while Bulawayo has the least – 81.Prospective voters must be 18 or over. They are required to carry proof of identity – an ID card or passport – as well as proof of residence, in the absence of which they would be required to fill out an affidavit.

The latest phase of the mobile voter registration exercise coincides with a similar exercise being carried out by the Civil Registry Department to issue out IDs.

The government has lifted some of the cumbersome requirements to obtain identity cards, a cabinet minister told parliament last Wednesday.

Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, who is also the leader of government business in the National Assembly, said: “President Mnangagwa went to Tsholotsho some time. He also sent the minister of local government to the San community and they faced more or less the same problems.”

After that, a discussion was done in cabinet and he directed that everyone without a national identity document must be given one.

So there is no problem, everyone, you can take anyone to the Registrar General’s office and give them the surname Biti, Biti, Biti, it is now allowed, the president has allowed it.

“Ziyambi’s comments appeared to suggest that past requirements for people to present their parents’ IDs or death certificates to obtain identity documents have been removed where one is unable to get the documents for whatever reason.

Deputy home affairs minister Ruth Mavhunga-Maboyi said there was a “waiver for those who are staying in rural areas,” adding: “We have the sabhukus, we have headmen, we have chiefs, they are going to write letters in order that these issues be addressed.”

Ramaphosa Condemns Vigilantes Kicking Out Undocumented Foreigners

By A Correspondent- South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has condemned vigilantes in his country for demanding that foreign nationals produce identification.

In a letter to South Africans, Ramaphosa reminded his compatriots that only a police member or immigration officer can ask for identity documents.

This comes after a Zimbabwean national, Elvis Nyathi, was brutally murdered by a mob in Diepsloot, Johannesburg on Wednesday last week after he failed to produce identity documents.

Anti-immigrant activists under Operation Dudula have also been moving door-to-door in several parts of South Africa kicking undocumented foreigners out of their homes.

Ramaphosa assured South Africans that his government was prioritising the enforcement of migration legislation. Part of his letter read:

No private citizen may assume the role of immigration or law enforcement authorities by demanding that foreign nationals produce identification.

Under Section 41 of the Immigration Act, only a police member or immigration officer can ask someone to identify themselves as a citizen, permanent resident or foreign national.

If these officers believe, on reasonable grounds, that the person is in the country unlawfully, they may be detained while an investigation into their status is conducted.

When doing so, law enforcement authorities must respect that person’s rights and dignity. They may not do so in a manner that is degrading or humiliating.

Enforcement of migration legislation is a priority for the government. We are working to ensure that syndicates perpetrating immigration fraud in collusion with corrupt officials are brought to book. This year alone, several people implicated in passport fraud have been arrested.

No private citizen or group has the right to enter businesses and demand its owners produce proof that their businesses are registered or legal.

This is the competence of municipal, provincial or national authorities, including inspectors from the Department of Employment and Labour and the South African Revenue Service.
Like all other businesses, foreign-owned businesses must obey the relevant laws, including health and safety regulations, have all the required permits and licences, and pay the necessary taxes.

We are a democracy founded on the rule of law. Acts of lawlessness directed at foreign nationals, whether they are documented or undocumented, cannot be tolerated.

Attacking those we suspect of wrongdoing merely because they are foreign nationals is not an act of patriotism.

It is immoral, racist and criminal. In the end, it will lead to xenophobia, whose consequences we have lived through in previous years.

We do not want to go back there because in the main the people of South Africa are not xenophobic.

Russia, Ukraine Conflict Reverberates Globally

By A Correspondent- The Russia and Ukraine conflict, which has spawned a surge in global food prices and disruption of world markets and supply chains, has been a wake-up call for Zimbabwe on the need to ensure food security, President Mnangagwa has said.

In his weekly column published in The Sunday Mail yesterday, President Mnangagwa said a new world order was emerging, and Zimbabwe must respond appropriately and creatively to keep abreast with fast moving global events.

“Foremost, Zimbabwe must be a food-secure nation. This means ensuring our agriculture is modernised through mechanisation for greater efficiencies and productivity. We will not stop at anything to achieve food security for our nation,” he said.

“For that to happen, we need to secure vital inputs for our agricultural sector. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine, with the resultant turbulence in global food prices, is a wake-up call to us all. Global supply chains both for fertilisers and grains stand imperilled by that conflict situation.”

President Mnangagwa said Russia and Ukraine were big players in the global economy, principally in the key sectors of technologies, agriculture and energy.

“The ongoing conflict between them has reverberated globally, including disrupting world markets and supply chains, all against post-pandemic fragilities already afflicting the world,” he said.

President Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe will have to respond appropriately to the developments taking place.

“A new world order is emerging, and Zimbabwe must respond appropriately and creatively, so it is not sidelined or placed on the receiving end of these fast-paced global changes.

Our activities in the past two months, and going forward, should be understood from that broad, regional, continental and global perspective,” he said.

President Mnangagwa noted that Zimbabwe had equally been a victim of unilateralism where illegal sanctions were imposed by the West just as NATO was provocatively making an eastward expansion.

Zanu Pf Tears Into Herman Mashaba

By A Correspondent- The ZANU PF Youth League has urged the ANC Youth League to push the South African government to bring to justice the people who murdered a Zimbabwean national, Elvis Nyathi, in Diepsloot, Johannesburg on Wednesday night.

In an open letter to the ANC Youth League, the ZANU PF Youth League’s Acting National Deputy Secretary for Youth Affairs, Tendai Chirau criticised opposition politician Herman Mashaba and Operation Dudula for allegedly inciting xenophobia. Said Chirau:

The ZANU PF Youth League registers with utter horror, the unchecked rise of xenophobia, ethnic brutality and Afrophobia being carried out against African non-South African citizens by vigilantes calling themselves “Operation Dudula”, inspired by inflammatory utterances from charlatans like Herman Mashaba, and fronted by Rhodie pawns such as Nhlanhla Lux.

This depravity recently culminated in the brutal and needless lynching of Mr Elvis Nyathi, a Zimbabwean national in Diepsloot, Gauteng province.

As the ZANU PF Youth League, we remain forever alive to the fact that black South Africans, including all fellow Africans, are our brothers and sisters with whom we share a bond of history, identity and culture which predates the artificial boundaries and ethnic divisions forced upon us by the racist colonial powers during the 1884-1886 Berlin Conference, which our ancestors were never a party to.

We are all Bantus who migrated from one point of origin, and our “Ubuntu” ethos has consistently united us against all forms of adversity. Africa is the home for all indigenous “brown” people.

Nyathi (43), was dragged from his shack in the slum area after he failed to produce identity documents and the R300 that was demanded by the vigilantes.

The mob assaulted him and set his body on fire just a few metres from home.

Air Force Helicopter Crashes In Mhondoro

An Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) helicopter reportedly crashed yesterday near Chibhero College in Mhondoro, but police and army officials were coy on details about its passengers and possible casualties.

Impeccable sources told NewsDay that the crash occurred yesterday afternoon near Chibhero College in Mhondoro.

Police sources also confirmed the crash, which saw top officials attending the crash site.

Military and police details also cordoned off the site, making it inaccessible.

The sources said the crash took place in the area where a helicopter carrying President Emmerson Mnangagwa was forced to crash land after developing a technical fault while he was returning to the capital from his Precabe Farm in Kwekwe.

“The crash was in the same area where Mnangagwa’s helicopter almost crashed,” the source said.

“The road leading to the accident scene was cordoned off, and no one was allowed there. We are not yet aware who was involved in the accident, and if there were any casualties.

“Zimbabwe National Army spokesperson Colonel Alphios Makotore said he could not comment on the matter.”I am not in the air force, I am in the army,” he curtly said yesterday.

AFZ public relations officer, Simon Matingwina yesterday acknowledged the crash but said it was not an air force helicopter.

“I know about the crash, but it’s not our helicopter. I think Mhondoro police attended the scene,” he said last night.

Efforts to get a comment from police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi were fruitless as he was not picking up calls.

This is not the first time that an air force chopper has crashed in the country.Last April, an AFZ helicopter — Agusta Bell AB 412 — crashed in a farming area in Arcturus, 30km east of the capital killing three crew members and a child as it came down on a house.

Two months later, another chopper, an Mi-35 helicopter gunship, with five aircraft technicians on board crash-landed near oil expresser Surface Wilmar in Chitungwiza.

Mai Titi Vows Leave Hubby In Tears

Mai Titi and Tinashe Maphosa

By A Correspondent- Comedienne and musician Felistas ‘Mai TT’ Murata’s vows left her husband Tinashe Maphosa in tears on Saturday.

She received a standing ovation from guests when she described Tinashe as her last destiny. She thanked him for wiping away her tears, restoring her dignity and comforting her and promised to be faithful until her death. Tinashe, fixing his eyes on Mai TT’s face while holding her left hand, could not hold back his tears as his bride spoke.

He removed his spectacles, wiped off his tears, looked at Mai TT and cried even more

Marriage officer, Reverend Musasa of Apostolic Faith in Zimbabwe, had given the couple time to dedicate their vows.

“I want to give the bride and groom time to give their vows, expressing what they feel and what they can promise each other,” said Rev Musasa.

Mai TT arrived at the venue in a helicopter, in the company of her two children.

The wedding lived up to its US$100 000 value tag. Mai TT followers, who failed to make it among the 400 invited guests, thanked H-Metro for keeping them updated with the proceedings, through the newspaper’s live coverage of the event.

Local artists and South African songstress Kelly Khumalo did not disappoint the guests with their performances

Mnangagwa Falls Into Coup Dangers Triggered By July Moyo

Emmerson Mnangagwa  has fallen into coup danger  caused by Local Govt Minister July Moyo, Parliament heard last week.

Minister Moyo was accused of creating tribal divisions in what now jeophadizes national security. This was during a debate with Norton MP Temba Mliswa, and below is the transcript.

HON. J. MOYO: Madam Speaker, the Constitution, regarding the devolution agenda that is captured in the Constitution of 2013 is in two Chapters.  There is Chapter 14 of the Constitution which deals with all the political and administrative set up of the devolution institutions, both at provincial and local authority level. The financial provisions are in Chapter 17 and every time the Minister of Finance comes to this august House, he presents that this House adopts, which is debated and adopted and it is in that Chapter where he has been given the powers to finance devolution funds to provincial and local authorities.
The local authorities and provincial council are there, what has not been there is the metropolitan councils. The Provincial Councils and Administration Act is still not repealed and therefore it is still there. We can make amendments of that Act but it is an Act of Parliament which was passed here, which is called the Provincial Councils and Administration Act. We can amend it as we are doing to comply with the provisions of the Constitution and we are doing exactly that.
HON. T. MLISWA: The law does not work in anticipation because you are changing this law and you do not use it. You use the current law. The law requires you to talk about what is there before it is amended. The point here is, the provincial councils have been set up and Members of Parliament are members of the provincial council. Some are being paid. Why do you pay others and others you do not pay? You have not sworn anybody in. You are totally violating the Constitution. Hon Ziyambi will tell you that the law does not work in anticipation. The current law that we have which has not been changed is very clear that there must be an enabling Act which comes through.
You hate Members of Parliament with a passion and we understand that. It is the law that put them there. You cannot say these other members, you pay and other members you do not. When did you swear in those that you are paying Hon Minister? The question that you have got provincial councilors who are being paid were not sworn in. They are not sitting. You are creating the biggest violation of the Constitution ever.
THE HON. DEPUTY SPEAKER: Hon. Mliswa, please, ask your question.
HON. T. MLISWA: My question is that he cannot continue to disburse money to pay other provincial members selectively without the Bill coming here. This is the very same section which got the late President Mugabe out of power – this devolution one. It is one of the reasons why he was removed from power because he was not constitutional. You are putting the President in trouble again. Being a lawyer, I hope he sees that. Hon Ziyambi, advise the President honestly. This is the biggest scam of looting funds. This Minister has been looting funds.
THE MINISTER OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND PUBLIC WORKS (HON. J. MOYO): I want to say and I want to repeat that Chapter 17 of the Constitution gives the Minister of Finance the right to finance those institutions which are there and the Minister of Finance in the Blue book which your Parliamentary Legal Committee has looked at, is giving provincial councils monies to local authorities. My job as Minister, once that allocation has been made, is to make sure that the monies are used properly. The law that we are using is the Provincial Councils Administration Act; the law we are using for the Rural District Councils is the Rural District Councils Act and the law we are using is the Urban Councils Act. That is what we are doing – [HON T. MLISWA: Arikuba mari mudhara uyu. Jeri rinorwadza wachembera.] – Madam Speaker, I need your protection – [HON MEMBERS: Inaudible interjections.]-
THE HON. DEPUTY SPEAKER: Hon Members to my left side, please behave like Hon Members in Parliament. I will not allow you to continue that behaviour Hon. Members. Hon. Mliswa, you said this old man is stealing money, please withdraw that statement.
HON. T. MLISWA: Madam Speaker, I listen to you very much. There are so many old men in this House. Which old man?
THE HON. DEPUTY SPEAKER: The one who was speaking.
HON. T. MLISWA: Does he not have a name? I know him as Sekuru July Moyo. Because I respect you, I withdraw what I said that the old man is stealing some funds.
HON. T. MLISWA:  On a point of order Madam Speaker, the Hon. Minister diligently articulated how he is going to bring the Bill here.  So why are you bringing the Bill here when you are telling us what you are doing is right?  I told you that you cannot bring a Bill here if you are doing the right thing.  Minister, this august House must be known to have said no to the disbursement of devolution funds because certain things were not in place.  The devolution money is being looted.  Central Government is paying directly to companies instead of using a proper structure.  Provincial councillors are responsible for monitoring and evaluating of that money.  Who is monitoring those funds if the provincial councillors are not there?  Minister, you are contradicting yourself.  He is disbursing this money willy-nilly for him to benefit and he has been very inconsistent.  The Minister must know that we are watching and he has been running away.  Tsuro magen’a haaite totomubata chete tsuro wacho.  Today we caught the hare.  You are here today and until we conclude this issue, nothing is going to happen in this country.  The President is being told corruption is there because it is being said we are not doing our oversight role.  We are doing our oversight role and this Minister is failing to respond to issues of money which are of a corrupt nature.  Jeri haridi makura kudai sekuru munevhudzi rewhite – [HON. MEMBERS: Inaudible interjections.] –

*On the motion of HON. TOGAREPI, seconded by HON. TEKESHE, the House adjourned at Three Minutes past Six o’clock p.m. *

Ramaphosa Cancels Operation Dudula

South Africa’s president, Cyril Ramaphosa on Monday morning used his Presidential authority to order a cancellation of the notorious operation Dudula which aims at carrying out violent attacks against foreigners.

Ramaphosa was speaking 2 days after ZimEye revealed how the killing of foreigners is destroying the South African economy. Below is his full statement:

FIGHT CRIME, NOT MIGRANTS

Dear Fellow South African,

Twenty-five years ago, our new democratic Constitution came into effect. In adopting this Constitution, we affirmed our commitment to a society based on democratic values, social justice and human rights.

We were also making a complete break with our past. This was a past of race-based social engineering that manifested itself through influx control, job reservation, group areas and the dreaded dompas. When our forebears drafted the Freedom Charter in 1955, whose principles have been incorporated in our constitution, and declared that South Africa belongs to all who live in it, they were seeking a society free from ethnic chauvinism, tribalism, racism and sexism.

It is therefore deeply disturbing how the recent incidents of anti-foreigner sentiment in parts of the country echo our apartheid past.

We have seen people being stopped on the street by private citizens and being forced to produce identification to verify their immigration status. We have seen some political leaders making unscientific statements about immigrants to exploit people’s grievances for political gain.

We have seen marches being led on people’s homes and their dwellings raided for evidence of criminal activity. We have seen people being attacked, hurt and even killed because of how they looked or because they have a particular accent.

This was how the apartheid oppressors operated.

They said some people could only live in certain areas, operate certain businesses or take certain jobs. Under apartheid, black people were deemed suspects by default and stopped by police when found in so-called white areas. Black people were forced to produce a dompas and if they could not do so, they were jailed.
We cannot allow such injustices to happen again.

The events in the Gauteng township of Diepsloot last week were a tragedy. In the course of a single weekend, seven people were killed, sparking protests. This loss of life is deplorable, as is the killing of a fellow African from Zimbabwe allegedly at the hands of vigilantes.

Crime is a serious problem in this country. It affects all communities and people are justifiably tired of living in fear of criminals.

Contrary to what is claimed by some anti-immigration groupings and individuals, the perpetrators of crime are both black and white, male and female, foreigner and citizen.

Crime, not migrants, is the common enemy we must work together to defeat.

We cannot defeat crime through incitement, violence, intimidation and vigilantism aimed at foreign nationals, and specifically nationals from other African countries.

We acknowledge many communities are frustrated by the apparent inability of the police to deal with criminals. Among the measures we are taking to capacitate the police is the recruitment of an additional 12,000 additional police officers.

We are also re-establishing community policing forums (CPFs) across the country. These forums bring communities and police representatives together to improve local safety and hold police accountable. Communities need to work with the police by actively participating in CPFs and reporting suspected acts of criminality.

Even as we intensify our fight against crime, there is no justification for people taking the law into their own hands.

At the same time, we recognise that illegal migration poses a risk to South Africa’s security, stability and economic progress. Illegal migration affects service delivery and places additional burdens on essential services such as health care and education.

Like any sovereign nation, we have the right to implement policies and measures that guarantee the integrity of our borders, protect the rights of South Africans and provide that all who reside in our borders have a legal right to be here.

Controlling migration is the responsibility of government.

Enforcement of migration legislation is a priority for government.

Attacking those we suspect of wrongdoing merely because they are a foreign national is not an act of patriotism. It is immoral, racist and criminal. In the end, it will lead to xenophobia, whose consequences we have lived through in previous years. We do not want to go back there because in the main the people of South Africa are not xenophobic.

I want to appeal to all South Africans, but particularly to younger South Africans who thankfully never experienced the true brutality and dehumanisation of apartheid. Let us not become like the ones who oppressed us, no matter how legitimate the grievance.

Let us work together to resolve our country’s challenges without resorting to violence or vigilantism. Let us resist those who want to exploit the problems of crime and unemployment for political gain.

Today, our anger may be directed at nationals from Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Nigeria or Pakistan. Tomorrow, our anger may be directed at each other.

Let us heed the words of Martin Niemöller’s famous poem about the Nazis in Germany:

“First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out –
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out –
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out –
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me – and there was no one left to speak for me.”

Let us focus on defeating crime, no matter who commits it.

With best regards,

Chamisa Openly Displays World’s Fastest Bullet Train, As ED Goes for Chinese ZUPCO Buses | WHO’S INSPIRING?

It’s Emmerson Mnangagwa who regularly sends time in China who should be bringing for the masses, pictures of working bullet trains to inspire his citizens, but since the Nov 2017 coup, for nearly 5 years, the 79y old has spent the half decade trying to change the transport system using mere ZUPCO buses, a technology the Rhodesian government had in the 1950s.

Recently Mnangagwa who destroyed the Harare Bus company and then nationalised it, moved to nationalise all private owned commuter omnibuses, in what now means all investors’ assets are now mandated to operate only under the corruption ridden government operator, ZUPCO.

Meanwhile, his opponent spent his Sunday yesterday, displaying moving pictures of the world’s fastest bullet train, and telling Zimbabweans, you can do it, we can have our own easily.

Chamisa Invades Zanu Pf Strongholds

By- Citizens Coalition for Change leader, Nelson Chamisa has shifted his focus to the rural areas.

Chamisa is targeting to increase the opposition’s rural vote, with a focus on mobilising the youth to register as voters.

In an interview with NewZimbabwe.com, CCC Midlands spokesperson Takavafira Zhou said Chamisa, who visited the Midlands structures on Friday, instructed leadership to campaign in rural areas. Said Zhou:

The President… highlighted the need to amplify CCC’s rural strategy and stressed that CCC’s major thrust would be on growing rural votes, with an immediate inundation strategy of rural areas to mobilise youths to register to vote.

He also stressed the need to reform Zec so that it can conduct free, fair and credible results.

But most importantly, CCC would ensure that people vote en masse for it and protect the votes in 2023.

His message was more on CCC accountability, transparency and equity; and servant leadership that would ensure better things for all Zimbabweans in order to fulfil the legacy of the liberation struggle.

Zhous said Chamisa was in Midlands Province to thank voters following the CCC’s victory in three constituencies in the province in the 26 March by-elections. Zhou said:

The president came to thank the citizens for firing yellow warning shots in a warmup or dress rehearsal for 2023.

Gokwe received the greatest commendation in light of the increased votes and rigging that ensued.

Out of 5 contested constituencies, CCC emerged victorious in 3 constituencies. President Chamisa reiterated the need to put citizens at the centre of CCC’s struggle for egalitarianism.

Candidate selection for CCC for 2023 would be determined by citizens before the end of 2022, and the days of double candidates would be a thing of the past as the President would directly sign for all candidates.

CCC candidates won Kwekwe Central, Mbizo and Mkoba but lost in Gokwe Central and Mberengwa South.

As Elvis Nyathi Is Killed, Mnangagwa Announces Zim To Protect Entire African Continent’s Workers

As the South Africa based Elvis Nyathi was murdered last week, the coup leader Emmerson Mnangagwa who commented nothing about it, rushed to announce saying his administration will will this year protect the entire continent’s workers.

Addressing the Africa Diamond Producers Association in Victoria Falls on Thursday, Mnangagwa celebrated Zimbabwe’s taking on of the baton stick for the continental body.

Mnangagwa said his country will now protect the entire continent’s workers. He said in full:

“For too long, Africans have not been in control of our own resources – meaning we did not have control of our own destiny.

“Zimbabwe says no more to this exploitation.

“As incoming Chair of the ADPA, Zimbabwe will work relentlessly to protect African workers and African companies in the industry.”

READER COMMENTS:

The office of the president is highly esteemed hence people expect real and factual communication not propaganda all the time. On the ground the Chinese and Zanupf elites have replaced the western colonialists, we have new masters in town. They are ravaging our economy and displacing local people from their ancestral land, bribing their way through and have become untouchables. Chinese and Zanupf employers are abusing their workers and reports are made daily but nothing is changed. In Zimbabwe independence is still a pipe dream.

Convicted Fraudster, Kenny Kunene Says: Foreigners Without Passports Must Be Arrested- SA

“All over the world you have to carry your passport if you are in a country as a foreigner…” – Kenny Kunene

By Farai D Hove | The convicted South African scammer, Kenny Kunene, has announced his backing of xenophobic actions by the police services, saying any person who fails to produce a passport must be arrested.

He did not condemn the murder of Zimbabwean father, Mr. Elvis Nyathi who was set burnt to death alive in front of a police watch last week.

Researchers have expressed concerns of the decline in human rights since 2005 that directly coincides with a sharp fall in GDP that has pushed the economy to become number 3 largest producer, down from its all time 1st position.

Speaking on Sunday night following concerns over an SAPS operation  in Diepsloot  areas, Kunene said, ” the police in Diepsloot were doing their work, they were fulfilling their constitutional duty, to make sure whoever is in South Africa is here in this country legally so.

“All over the world you have to carry your passport if you are in a country as a foreigner.

“In the event you don’t have it in your person; it is at the hotel, you get arrested, until somebody can show that you are there legally.

” 2 South Africans let a state away from political correctness,  we are in desperate times, our communities are suffering from illegal immigrants,” he said.

Jordan Zemura Keen To Assume New Role

Jordan Zemura says he has no problem taking either an attacking or defensive role while playing in the left-back.

The Bournemouth defender has been employed in both roles at the club and also in the Warriors national team.

He has made 30 appearances for Cherries this season, scoring three goals and creating one.

Discussing his performance this term with the Bournemouth Echo newspaper, Zemura said: “I feel like first and foremost I’m a defender, I’m a full-back, I play left-back.

“Of course, in the modern day it’s easy to see full-backs as attacking players and stuff like that, and you have a big input on the attacking side of the game.

“But for me, I like both sides of it. I don’t like shirking my responsibilities. I’ve got to defend.

“I’ve got to do better for the first goal, the ball goes over my head – I need to try to win it better.

“Obviously, when I can go forward, I like to help the team, of course, I enjoy that very much.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

USD1,3 Billion Vanishes

The Auditor-General (AG) Mildred Chiri has decried continued failure to account for public funds by ministries and government departments, which resulted in more than $1,3 billion expenditure not being properly accounted for in 2020 to prove that the recorded transactions really occurred.

In her 2020 report on Appropriation Accounts, Finance and Revenue Statements and Fund Accounts which were recently tabled in Parliament, Chiri exposed gross irregularities whereby several payments amounting to millions of dollars (in foreign currency and Zimdollar) were done on behalf of ministries without supporting documents, which resulted in millions of dollars not being accounted for.

Mildred Chiri

Chiri said several government ministries failed to provide enough documentation for purchased assets, making it difficult to verify the accuracy of the expenditure they reported.

“Expenditure amounting to $1 309 482 199 was not supported by documents such as acquittals, invoices, receipts, delivery and goods received notes as proof that the recorded transactions really occurred. This is contrary to the provisions of section 59(15) of the Public Finance Management (Treasury Instructions) 2019, which states that payments should be adequately supported,” the report read.

The AG also revealed that dual payments amounting to $9 384 085 were made to suppliers in 2020 resulting in unnecessary expenditure.

“The Finance ministry processed various payments to suppliers of goods and services on behalf of ministries without adequate supporting documentation. For example, direct payments amounting to US$22 024 406, R6 403 830 and Pula 8 359 434 were made by Treasury on behalf of the Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement ministry and Transport and Infrastructural Development ministry.

“In addition, direct payments amounting to $376 019 364 were made on behalf of the Home Affairs ministry without detailed documentary evidence of how the transactions were recorded and reported in the accounting records, which were also not availed for audit,” Chiri said.

“A number of ministries had expenditure variances between the figures reported in the Appropriation Account and those in the Public Financial Management System (PFMS), the computerised system used by the government to process payments.

“The reported expenditure should be in agreement with what is reflected in the system as all payments are supposed to be processed through the PFMS. Where there is a variance, reconciliation should be made to establish the cause.”

Chiri said in most instances, reconciliations were not done, making it difficult to validate the accuracy of expenditure by ministries and government departments, an issue which she also reported in 2019.

“The Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare ministry made unauthorised transfer of funds amounting to $3 602 710 from the child welfare and the older persons funds to support the ministry’s Appropriation Account activities without authorisation from Treasury.

“This was contrary to section 116(6) and (9) of the Public Finance Management Act (Treasury Instructions), 2019 which prohibits utilisation of fund monies to meet Appropriation Account expenditure without Treasury approval. As a result, the objectives of the funds on the development and promotion of welfare and protection of young persons were compromised.”

She said there were also dual payments made by ministries to suppliers.

“Refunds for the double payments were still to be received at the time of concluding my audit in 2021. Consequently, the value of money is lost due to inflation and lapse of time. Dual payments are indicative of weaknesses in internal controls.”

The AG also expressed concern over some ministries and commissions that fail to submit their revenue returns, a situation that resulted in limited scope for the audit. Newsday

Mnangagwa, Musengezi Battle Intensifies

Tinashe Sambiri|Zanu PF man Sybeth Musengezi says he is determined to fight for democracy within the former revolutionary party.

Musengezi is challenging Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa’s questionable legitimacy.

Musengezi has been summoned by police for questioning.

“I shall cooperate with the Police and hand myself in for the (police) interview,” said Musengezi.

He added :
“Last Saturday in Harare with my lawyer Nqobani Sithole
@nqoebs20
mapping way foward on the Musengezi vs ZANU PF matter.

Mnangagwa’s henchman (Nguni) finally responded so we’re ready to submit our Heads of Arguments now. We’re going foward with the matter.”

“Either Cde Mnangagwa’s apologists are foolish or they want to embarass him. Firstly it was about my membership to ZANU PF, then some residential address jiberish and now they’re saying am out of the country after skipping the border & shud be arrested upon return Nhema dzacho,” declared Musengezi.

Soldier Guns Down Villager

A-BEITBRIDGE villager Knowledge Sibanda was last Thursday shot and injured by a soldier as he was driving near the now defunct River Ranch Diamond Mine.
When police officers attended the scene, the soldier’s colleagues allegedly chased them away and destroyed evidence.

-Newsday

TB: The Facts You Need To Know

On World TB Day, WHO calls for an urgent investment of resources, support, care and information into the fight against tuberculosis (TB).

Although 66 million lives have been saved since 2000, the COVID-19 pandemic has reversed those gains.

For the first time in over a decade, TB deaths increased in 2020. Ongoing conflicts across Eastern Europe, Africa and the Middle East have further exacerbated the situation for vulnerable populations.

Global spending on TB diagnostics, treatments and prevention in 2020 were less than half of the global target of US$ 13 billion annually by 2022.

For research and development, an extra US$ 1.1 billion per year is needed. “Urgent investments are needed to develop and expand access to the most innovative services and tools to prevent, detect and treat TB that could save millions of lives each year, narrow inequities and avert huge economic losses,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “These investments offer huge returns for countries and donors, in averted health care costs and increased productivity.”

Investments in TB programmes have demonstrated benefits not just for people with TB but for health systems and pandemic preparedness. Building on lessons learnt from COVID-19 research, there is a need to catalyse investment and action to accelerate the development of new tools, especially new TB vaccines.

Progress towards reaching the 2022 targets set in the UN High Level Meeting political declaration and the WHO Director-General’s Flagship Initiative Find.Treat.All is at risk mainly due to lack of funding. Between 2018–2020, 20 million people were reached with TB treatment.

This is 50% of the 5-year target of 40 million people reached with TB treatment for 2018-2022. During the same period 8.7 million people were provided TB preventive treatment. This is 29% of the target of 30 million for 2018-2022.

The situation is even worse for children and adolescents with TB. In 2020, an estimated 63 % of children and young adolescents below 15 years with TB were not reached with or not officially reported to have accessed life-saving TB diagnosis and treatment services; the proportion was even higher – 72% – for children under 5 years. Almost two thirds of eligible children under 5 did not receive TB preventive treatment and therefore remain at risk of illness.

COVID-19 has had a further negative and disproportionate impact on children and adolescents with TB or at risk, with increased TB transmission in the household, lower care-seeking and access to health services. WHO is sounding the alarm on World TB Day for countries to urgently restore access to TB services, disrupted due to COVID-19 pandemic for all people with TB, especially children and adolescents.

“Children and adolescents with TB are lagging behind adults in access to TB prevention and care”, said Dr Tereza Kasaeva, Director of WHO’s Global TB Programme. “The WHO guidelines issued today are a gamechanger for children and adolescents, helping them get diagnosed and access care sooner, leading to better outcomes and cutting transmission.

The priority now is to rapidly expand implementation of the guidance across countries to save young lives and avert suffering”

Updated guidelines for the management of TB in children and adolescents
Updated guidelines for the management of TB in children and adolescents released by WHO today highlight new patient-centred recommendations for diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The most recent recommendations are:

Diagnostic testing has expanded to include non-invasive specimens, such as stools.
Rapid molecular diagnostics are recommended as the initial test for TB diagnosis for children and adolescents.

Children and adolescents who have non-severe forms of drug-susceptible TB are now recommended to be treated for four months instead of six months, as well as TB meningitis, where a six-month regimen is now recommended instead of 12 months. This promotes a patient-centred approach that will reduce the costs of TB care for children, adolescents and their families.

Two of the newest TB medicines to treat drug resistant TB (bedaquiline and delamanid) are now recommended for use in children of all ages, making it possible for children with drug-resistant TB to receive all-oral treatment regimens regardless of their age.

New models of decentralized and integrated TB care are also recommended, which will allow more children and adolescents to access TB care or preventive treatment, closer to where they live.
TB remains one of the world’s deadliest infectious killers.

Each day, over 4 100 people lose their lives to TB and close to 30 000 people fall ill with this preventable and curable disease. Ending TB requires concerted action by all sectors. On World TB Day, WHO calls on everyone- individuals, communities, societies, donors and governments to do their part to end TB.

Mnangagwa Says: We’ve Fallen Into Hunger Because Ukraine Was Feeding Zimbabwe

By Agencies | Zimbabwe’s-coup-President Emmerson Mnangagwa has announced saying Zimbabwe has fallen into hunger because the wartorn, Ukraine was feeding Zimbabwe before Russia invaded it.

Mnangagwa said ‘Zimbabwe will have to respond appropriately to the developments taking place,’ as “the ongoing conflict between them has reverberated globally, including disrupting world markets and supply chains, all against post-pandemic fragilities already afflicting the world.”

Somewhat criticising the invader, Russia, Mnangagwa said “a new world order is emerging, and Zimbabwe must respond appropriately and creatively, so it is not sidelined or placed on the receiving end of these fast-paced global changes.”

He continued voicing: “Our activities in the past two months, and going forward, should be understood from that broad, regional, continental and global perspective,” he said.

Despite being the world’s fastest growing cro economy from 1976, Zimbabwe today relies on Ukraine for among other things, wheat, and cooking oil produces.

Mnangagwa however also claimed Zimbabwe has equally been a victim of unilateralism where illegal sanctions were imposed by the West just as NATO was provocatively making an eastward expansion.

“Zimbabwe, itself already a victim of Western unilateralism, is in the full glare of all these global headwinds. Against NATO’s provocative eastward expansion in Europe, and Russian Federation’s robust response to that threat of encirclement by NATO, a new situation has arisen which requires that we re-map the world with a view to finding our own place and securing our interests,” he said.

“Like in the case of Zimbabwe which has endured more than two decades of illegal sanctions, the conflict raging in Eastern Europe has made many nations realise how powerful nations and global interests still function on old and archaic notions of “spheres of influence”, and that they will not hesitate to use unilateral economic coercion to bully independent-minded states unwilling to kowtow to their whims and interests.”

Mnangagwa said the situation called for great changes where nations engage, reach out for safe and gainful partnerships, transact internationally, relate or submit to global regulatory frameworks and institutions.

“Fortuitously, Africa had a premonition of this meltdown in world affairs, and had already embarked on a robust framework for continental free trade, underpinned by Agenda 2063.

This was a stroke of far-sightedness, indeed a new trajectory which must find justification and impetus in the ensuing global turbulence. Russia and Ukraine, the two nations in conflict, are big players in the global economy, principally in the key sectors of technologies, agriculture and energy,” he said.

Mnangagwa said the fact that Russia was now demanding payment in domestic currency, just as China was equally challenging the dominance of the United States dollar, demonstrated a shift in the global epicentre.

“The hitherto unchallenged currency and medium of international trade is being shaken as a key global player. Russia, demands payment in its domestic currency. The Chinese Yuan is also challenging dominance of the United States dollar. All this points to a shift in the global epicentre,” he said.

Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe has escalated its international engagements consistent with its policy of engagement and re-engagement coupled with its economic policies such as the National Development Strategy 1.

“The changing global situation, which is increasingly being shaped by conflict and unilateralism, enjoins us to look to ourselves, to our region and to our continent primarily.

“Beyond ourselves, our region and our continent, we face growing uncertainty which we can only offset through creative and responsive diplomacy,” he said.- State Media/Additional Reporting

DeMbare Claim Pole Position

Dynamos climbed to the top of the log following their goalless draw against Ngezi Platinum Stars at the Baobab Stadium on Saturday.

The match had a cagey start with both teams failing to create clear cut chances, but it was the visitors who sought to control the early pace.

Ngezi, on the other ender, only picked up the momentum later on in the game, forcing their opponents to drawback.

But all the possession and build-ups went in vain as the first half finished without goals.

Nonetheless, the first real chance from either side came in the 70th minute when Ngezi’s Denver Mukamba was denied by the keeper in a 1-v-1 situation. This was followed by another effort from Marvelous Mukumba, which was cleared off the line two minutes later.

The home team continued to knock around, but they never found the breakthrough, and the match finished goalless.

The result put Glamour Boys on twenty-three points, and are now separated from Chicken Inn, who drop to the second position, courtesy of a superior goal difference.

The Gamecocks surrendered the top post after losing 3-0 to WhaWha. The loss ended their eight-match undefeated run, which stretched from November 2021.

Elsewhere, FC Platinum beat Bulawayo City 2-0, while Herentals overcame Triangle United 1-0.

Black Rhinos cruised to a 2-1 victory against ZPC Kariba.

Zimbabweans No Longer Wanted In Diepsloot

Home Affairs minister Aaron Motsoaledi gives reasons to this unidentified man why he should not be part of a meeting between government and community members of Diepsloot. Image: Antonio Muchave

A Zimbabwean man was ejected from a meeting between South African government officials and community members of Diepsloot, Johannesburg on Friday.

Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi and Minister of Police Bheki Cele were in Diepsloot, a slum area in Johannesburg, to find a lasting solution to the challenges that resulted in violent protests this week and the killing of Zimbabwean national Elvis Nyathi.

The man was asked to leave the meeting soon after he introduced himself as a Zimbabwean communist party representative.

The Zimbabwean man was reportedly led out of the meeting by the police and followed by Motsoaledi, who explained to him why he could not be part of the meeting.

The man told Motsoaledi outside that he was from Fourways and that he was invited to the gathering. Motsoaledi said:

This is a community meeting of people who stay here only… People are angry. We ask you to leave because this is a meeting of the community.

Now we are unable to continue with the meeting because they are very angry.

I’m just asking you to leave very peacefully. Tell whoever has invited you that they invited you to the wrong meeting.

Residents of Diesploot blame foreign nationals for the high levels of armed robberies and murders in the area.

Meanwhile, addressing journalists in Diepsloot on Friday, Thabang Molefe a convener of ANCYL structures demanded that all Zimbabweans should leave the area once and for all. He said:

I represent young people in this community. It is the young people that are asking why are you allowing these Zimbabweans to kill us.

We are not joking here. We have invited the minister here. Zimbabweans must leave once and for all.

We are saying that South Africans must start walking around with ID documents.

We are calling for operation stop, search and arrest. Police must randomly search [and ask] who are you, where are you from, where is your documentation…That is how we want it in Diepsloot.

Musengezi Unmoved By Police “Interview”

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has summoned ZANU PF activist Sybeth Musengezi, who challenged President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s legitimacy at the High Court in 2021, for an interview.

In a letter dated 6 April 2022, one detective Mirimbo requested Msengezi to avail himself at Law and Order Harare as soon as possble. Read the letter:

Reference is made to your letter dated January 7 2021 in connection to the above subject.

We are kindly inviting you and your client Sybeth Musengezi to come to Law and Order Harare for interviews.

May you please treat this issue as a matter of urgency.

In a post on the microblogging site Twitter, Msengezi on Friday said he will cooperate with the police and hand himself in for the “interview”.

Last year Msengezi filed papers at the High Court seeking nullification of a ZANU PF central committee resolution on 19 November 2017 that confirmed Mnangagwa as the acting party president.

He also argued that Mnangagwa’s presidency is illegitimate since his elevation by the ZANU PF central committee was in violation of the party’s constitution.- NewsDay

President Mnangagwa Crash Site: Another Military Chopper Crashes, Passenger Named Kept Secret

Barely a year later, an Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) helicopter crashed yesterday near the place where another chopper carrying President Emmerson Mnangagwa was forced to crash land.

Indentities of the passengers were not disclosed at the time of writing.

The aftermath …chopper crash

The accident happened at Chibhero College in Mhondoro, but police and army officials were coy on details about its passengers and possible casualties.

We are not yet aware who was involved in the accident, and if there were any casualties.”

Zimbabwe National Army spokesperson Colonel Alphios Makotore said he could not comment on the matter.

“I am not in the air force, I am in the army,” he curtly said yesterday.

This is not the first time that an air force chopper has crashed in the country.

Last April, an AFZ helicopter — Agusta Bell AB 412 — crashed in a farming area in Arcturus, 30km east of the capital killing three crew members and a child as it came down on a house.

Two months later, another chopper, an Mi-35 helicopter gunship, with five aircraft technicians on board crash-landed near oil expresser Surface Wilmar in Chitungwiza. Newsday

Harassment Of Zimbabweans In SA Continues

Police Summon Mnangagwa Challenger

Community Gang Up Suspected Armed Robbery Accomplice

By A Correspondent- Esibomvu villagers in uMzingwane District, Matabeleland South province have banished one of their community members after allegations that he was involved in the raiding of illegal miners by the armed robbers last month.

One of the villagers, Bhekimpilo Mhlanga confirmed the developments.

“There was a group of about five armed robbers which was going around raiding illegal miners. This trait started from December last year until last month the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) started hunting for the group,” he said.

“The group fled the borders to South Africa to sort refugees before selling out one of their colleagues who remained in Zimbabwe in the Sibomvu area. After hearing the allegations that one of the community members was involved in these raiding, the villagers then took the matters in their hands.”

Mhlanga said the villagers beat up the resident before banishing him from the village.

“The villagers had always suspected him of social ills in the community. He came from nowhere and no one in the village knew his history,” he said.

This battle had risked lives of many people in the community as people were living in terror.

Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena said they have not recorded any case concerning the matter.

Call For The Ban Of Traditional Libido Enhancing Supplements

By A Correspondent- Lupane men have called for a ban on the use of traditional sex enhancement supplements, saying they are fuelling new HIV infections.

Zimbabwe is in a drive to end new HIV infections by 2030, and the National Aids Council (NAC) is trying to tackle and curb challenges that bring about new infections.

After the realisation that men are lagging behind when it comes to participation in health-related issues, including HIV, NAC has implemented a brother-to-brother programme meant to engage men on HIV related issues.

When asked about the key drivers of HIV during a brother-to-brother session at Ndamuleni village in Lupane, some cited imbiza/isgubhu (traditional sex enhancement supplements) as the key driver.

Ndamuleni headman Mr Philani Ncube said isgubhu boosts a man’s energy, making them hyperactive, but the men of today do not understand the reason why it was used long back.

“Isgubhu makes a man visible in the bedroom, it actually gives them existence all the time. Men of today do not understand that isgubhu was used by our forefathers because they had many wives whom they had to satisfy. They just drink it while they have one wife, resulting in them sleeping around because women cannot stand the roughness that comes with it. Therefore, the spread of HIV is more likely,” said Mr Ncube.

Mr Mdibhisi Dube said isgubhu changes one’s bedroom game, and pressure from friends leads to men drinking it all the time.

“Men are easily swayed, so once one hears that their friend is using isgubhu and it’s working for them, they also want to try it. When one does not trust themselves and hears of this, they will always use it regardless of the disadvantages it bears,” he said.

Mr Dube said the other reason men use isgubhu is to cover up for cheating so that their partners don’t become suspicious.

“When I go out with my side women and I do not want my wife to find out, I will drink isgubhu. Once I drink it, I will still have the usual or more energy even if I’ve used some on someone. With isgubhu, a condom will surely break, it comes with too much energy and roughness, thus leading to the spread in HIV,” he said.

Mr Ignitious Sibanda said isgubhu tends to take over one’s thinking capacity.

“These things tend to make hormones overcome someone’s thinking capacity and chances of one thinking about protection are very slim. Isgubhu pushes them to do whatever satisfies the body at that moment. The assumption is that the supplements actually boost a man’s confidence and help them earn respect. It has killed the nation because a man who uses imbiza is not safe from HIV,” he said.

Village head Mr Siqalekiso Sibanda said the supplements should be banned if the country wants to achieve its target.

“Isgubhu should just be banned or at least there should be efforts to teach people about it. There are no dosages and men drink it until they feel like it’s working, yet they will have overdosed.

Rise In Car Thefts Irk Police

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have expressed concern over the rise in car thefts across the country.

Police made the remarks in their Twitter account. They said several vehicles were reported to have been stolen across the country in the past few weeks.

On the first of this month, Police in Hwange recorded a case of theft of a white Toyota Hilux Revo vehicle registration number AFF 8145 at Sino Hydro, Hwange.

Police said the vehicle was stolen by someone who allegedly impersonated a company employee.

“The culprit has not been identified yet” said the police

In a related matter on a Saturday this month at 11pm a male motorist (35) lost his Toyota Runx Vehicle ACN 6920 to an unknown suspect after he parked the vehicle along the road to relieve himself while the engine was running near Pamuzinda, Harare.

In most cases male motorists have been stolen while parked while owners are relieving themselves and this puts many at risk of being carjacked or robbed.

In another similar incident, police stated that recently a Harare man (37) lost a white Nissan Tiida vehicle AFB 1746 after parking along the road for recess along Tynwald Drive.

An unidentified passenger whom the owner of the vehicle had picked along Harare-Bulawayo Road jumped onto the driver’s side and drove away.

They also said recently a Harare man (39) lost a silver Corolla Crystallite vehicle AEP 9435 after leaving it parked at a barbershop in Mbare with the keys on the ignition.

Police said they later recovered the vehicle at George Stark High School with some missing car accessories which include a car radio, speakers, battery and a Samsung cellphone.

Last month, the police in their Twitter page confirmed the car theft which occurred on March 15 at around 1PM in Bulawayo CBD.

Police said they are investigating a case of theft of a motor vehicle which occurred in Bulawayo on 15 March at about 1PM.

“The complainant parked and locked the doors of her grey Toyota Wish vehicle (AEW 6351) along Jason Moyo, between 10th and 11th Avenue while proceeding to a bank. She came back after about an hour and discovered that the vehicle had been stolen,” said the police.

DeMbare Shoot To PSL Summit

Jordan Zemura Reveals Comfortable Role

Global Facts About Tuberculosis

Ndebele King Tells Zimbos In SA To Return Home

Self-styled Ndebele King Bulelani Lobengula Khumalo has implored Zimbabweans living in South Africa to return home amid ongoing violence against foreigners in the neighbouring country.

Bulelani, himself living in South Africa, said Zimbabweans have been living in South Africa for too long and this has worn out the patience of their hosts. He said:

These people have given us asylum and accommodation so that we fix our own things, but we continue involving ourselves in illegal activities yet it is up to us to follow the laws of this land.

This is the time to go back home to fix our things. The situation back home is not getting better because we are not doing anything about it.

Our neighbour is tired of taking care of us, he is saying enough is enough and is reaching a boiling point.

These people have given us asylum and accommodation so that we fix our own things, but we continue involving ourselves in illegal activities yet it is up to us to follow the laws of this land.

Bulelani said it is disappointing that some South Africans view their African brothers as foreigners.

Elvis Nyathi (43), a Zimbabwean national, was assaulted and set alight by vigilantes in Diepsloot, Johannesburg last week for not having a passport

Bulelani said Gukurahundi made some Zimbabweans fail to obtain documents and this has left them at the mercy of xenophobes in South Africa.

He called on the South African government to help solve the Zimbabwean crisis.

“Its Because Of The Language Barrier”: Chinese Rep Defends Compatriots

By A Correspondent- A top Chinese business representative has blamed the rampant violation of Zimbabwean investment laws by some of his compatriots on language barriers.

Speaking at a panel discussion in Harare on Friday, African Empire Group chairperson Steve Ke Zhao said local media was unnecessarily stereotyping Chinese investors while failing to separate “the bad apples” from the lot.

The candid discussion forum, themed “The state of Chinese business investments in Zimbabwe and future of Sino-Zim relations”, was organised by China-Africa Economic and Culture Exchange and Research Centre.

Earlier, media expert Tawanda Majoni had acknowledged the positive role played by the Chinese in sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, health, mining, and advancing loans to Zimbabwe.

Majoni said China’s investment portfolio in Zimbabwe could not be matched by any country since 2000 but was quick to add, “the positives are now overshadowed by the bad boy tag that the Chinese have been associated with”.

“When people see what they see as impunity, there is a tendency for people to start to be emotional about it,” Majoni said.

“People don’t think the problem is with the Chinese only, of course they also blame the government for overprotecting these people. People tend to think government officials are getting bribes from the Chinese.”

Majoni also said the Chinese have not done themselves any favour by abandoning their public relations portfolio, which has left their operations open to all manner of speculation by both the public and the media.

“There is a vacuum in terms of connecting with the media and therefore there is lack of information, sometimes journalists find it difficult to go and get accurate information from the Chinese…” he said.

In his response, Zhao pointed out that, “In each and every community, there are always bad apples, there are good and bad people… So I cannot say in the Asian community everyone or every company is perfect, but look at the majority (of investors).”

Zhao said a lot of media reports focusing on Chinese investment were never informed by what is happening on the ground.

“Some of the issues and I have to say that again, language is the problem.

“So, some of the people that came in as Chinese investors, they cannot really understand Zimbabwean laws.

So, that’s why from the Chinese companies, we work with government officials, we have more workshops to make people understand the policies in the country.

“So, follow the law in Zimbabwe, follow the policies; that’s one of the things in the Chinese community.

“So, recently in the Chinese companies, we have already started saying if you don’t want to follow the laws in Zimbabwe, please go back to China, we also don’t want you to be here.

“We want clean projects, we want benefiting projects coming to Zimbabwe.”

“Cancer Treatment In Shambles”

A radiographer at one of the country’s major hospitals Adriana Rutendo Mafukidze Zanga said that linear accelerators (devices most commonly used for external beam radiation treatments for patients with cancer) at government hospitals are not working.

Posting on Twitter on Saturday, Zanga said the last functioning linear accelerator (linac) broke down in January when there was already a huge backlog due to previous long machine downtimes. She wrote:

Thank you. My fellow radiation therapists and I are hoping for the repair of ALL the linear accelerators (linac) at both govt institutions.

Before the last functioning linac broke down in January we already had a huge backlog due to previous long machine downtimes.

There have been conflicting claims on social media platforms about the state of cancer treatment in Zimbabwe.

Award-winning journalist, Hopewell Chin’ono, last week claimed that the country’s public hospitals don’t have a single working radiotherapy cancer machine. Chin’ono tweeted:

Farai Hativagoni died today from cancer because Zimbabwe’s public hospitals don’t have a single working radiotherapy cancer machine.

There are real people with names who are dying daily because Mnangagwa’s regime has refused to care about cancer patients due to LOOTING.

However, pro-Government activists on Twitter have accused Chin’ono of lying and making unfounded statements meant to tarnish the image of the country.

In a post on Facebook on 27 January this year, Zanga said asked a rhetorical question. She said:

Is a DOG in Alabama more likely to receive Radiotherapy than our children with cancer in Harare?!!!!!

In another post the following day, Zanga said the country needs lasting solutions to the frequent breakdowns of cancer machines.

She also implored churches, universities, healthcare funders, civil society, everyone across the political divide, banks, and philanthropists, among other stakeholders to work together to find a solution to the crisis. She said:

In my post yesterday when I posed the question, “Is a dog in Alabama more likely to receive Radiotherapy than our children in Harare”, something in me snapped.

As a mother myself, I did not want to imagine what it feels like to be stuck with a child with cancer at home due to a machine breakdown.

I hence decided that as a citizen and a cancer caregiver I cannot keep on venting without offering solutions.

As a cancer caregiver, I am also tired of being heartbroken by these episodes that I have experienced for the 12 years I have served my community.

This must be everyone’s concern – churches, universities, healthcare funders, civil society, everyone across the political divide, banks, philanthropists etc.

The cancer burden is growing and access to care must urgently be everyone’s baby

Here are my 3 points :

1. As individuals and corporates we have been doing well to raise cancer awareness through walks etc. This year’s theme for World Cancer Day is “Close the care gap”.

It is therefore my humble request for corporates and individuals to organise around this theme. Let’s talk about access to Radiotherapy, Chemotherapy, Surgery, Counseling, Nutrition etc for cancer patients this year.

Try to actively seek out where the gaps in cancer care are and seek ways to close these.

Public Relations Officers in public sector hospitals are able to assist with information as well as guidance in initiatives you may want to engage in.

A tour of the Radiotherapy and Oncology facilities can be requested.

2. The proposed cancer levy motioned in parliament by Dr Khupe did not sail through due to reasons I do not have the full knowledge and expertise to fully explain BUT according to Dr Ngwaru in the Herald article titled “Parly mulls cancer levy” he says, “As it stands about 50 per cent of cancer diseases are an overlap from HIV. What it means is that the burden of cancer must be the burden of HIV.”

I agree with the above statement by Dr Ngwaru of the National Cancer Alliance of Zimbabwe (NCAZ).

What can be done for our Radiotherapy Centres to benefit from the AIDS levy? Can a cancer council be set up which is directly funded by the National AIDS Council?  If this is not feasible/practical please offer suggestions.

3. There is a growing sentiment that Radiotherapy and Oncology Centres must stand alone and be funded directly by Treasury because of the high cost of purchase and maintenance of linear accelerators which may exceed hospital and Ministry budgets.

AFTER MUGABE, ZIMBABWEANS SUFFER OVER ANTI-MNANGAGWA JIBES

HRDs Alert
31 March 2022

A 48 year old Zimbabwean authorities are intensifying their onslaught against dissent with several people across the country appearing in court answering to charges of undermining authority of or insulting President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

In Shurugwi, 48 year-old Maria Mapfumo was recently arrested by some Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers, who charged her with undermining authority of or insulting President Mnangagwa in contravention of Section 33 of the Criminal Law (Codification and
Reform) Act.

In court, prosecutors accused Mapfumo of using derogatory language to insult President Mnangagwa during an altercation with Bernard Dangi, a ZANU PF Councillor under Tongogara Rural District Council in Shurugwi, wherein the 48 year-old woman allegedly stated that Dangi and President Mnangagwa were murderers who can connive to kill her
husband. Mapfumo’s husband, who is employed as a teacher had been accused by Dangi of abdicating his teaching duties and engaging in political activities.

Mapfumo, who was represented by Hillary Garikayi of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), was also charged with criminal insult as defined in Section 95 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act for allegedly impairing the dignity of Dangi.

In Hwange, Mehlo Mpala, a 42 year-old man recently appeared at Dete Magistrates Court answering to the same charge of contravening Section 33(2)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act for allegedly undermining or insulting the authority of President Mnangagwa.

Mpala, who is employed as a train engineer, was accused of acting unlawfully after he criticised Nyambe Mathe, a war veteran and the ZANU PF party Chairperson for Ward 16 while at Cross Dete Business Centre for wearing ZANU PF party regalia comprising of a T-shirt and a cap emblazoned with a picture of President Mnangagwa, whom the train engineer accused of causing a lot of suffering for Zimbabweans.

Prosecutors alleged that Mpala told Mathe that he was wearing a good pair of shoes and trousers except for the cap and T-shirt which he said was “rubbish” stuff and that President Mnangagwa’s picture on his party regalia was not good.

ZLHR lawyer Jabulani Mhlanga, who represented Mpala challenged the prosecution of the train engineer without obtaining authority to prosecute from the Prosecutor-General and he was removed from remand and the State was ordered to summon him should it still want to proceed with prosecuting him.

In Bindura, Tinotenda Majuru, a 24 year-old man is scheduled to stand trial on 12 April on the same charges of undermining authority of or insulting President Mnangagwa after he allegedly snatched beer and a ZANU PF party branded cap from another resident at Chiwaridzo Business Centre.

Majuru, who is self employed as a car washer at Chiwaridzo Business Centre, was accused of using some derogatory words in criticising President Mnangagwa during an altercation with Samson Waraza.

Majuru, who was granted free bail by Magistrate Samantha Dhlamini, is represented by Ernest Jena of ZLHR.

On 4 April 2022, Clapaton Redi, a 42 year-old man will be on trial at Mbare Magistrates Court on charges of undermining or insulting the authority of President Mnangagwa.

Redi, who was arrested in December 2021 and is represented by Paidamoyo Saurombe of ZLHR, is accused of insulting President Mnangagwa on 14 December 2021 in Mbare high-density suburb by uttering some disparaging comments about the ruling ZANU PF leader.

In Seke, 27 year-old Leonard Mutsa Mukuya will appear at Chitungwiza Magistrates Court on 8 April 2022 answering to charges of undermining authority of or insulting President Mnangagwa as defined in Section 33 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act after he allegedly made some utterances which some law enforcement agents claimed would engender feelings of hostility towards the ZANU PF party leader.

Prosecutors claim that Mukuya on 12 February 2022 and at Damview Recreational Centre in Chitungwiza unlawfully and with intent to cause hatred, contempt and ridicule towards President Mnangagwa used offensive language in criticising the country’s leader during a
conversation with Takudzwa Chitiga.

Mukuya, who is represented by Gift Mtisi of ZLHR, allegedly approached Chitiga, who was wearing a ZANU PF party T-shirt which had President Mnangagwa’s picture on it, and questioned him for supporting the ruling party.

“Africa’s Climate Related Health Emergencies Soar”: WHO

Brazzaville, 7 April 2022 – Climate-related health emergencies are on the rise in Africa, accounting for more than half of public health events recorded in the region over the past two decades, a new analysis by World Health Organization (WHO) shows.

The analysis found that of the 2121 public health events recorded in the African region between 2001 and 2021, 56% were climate-related. The region is witnessing an increase in climate-linked emergencies, with 25% more climate-related events recorded between 2011 and 2021 compared with the previous decade.

World Health Day is being marked on 7 April under the theme “Our Planet. Our Health.” WHO is calling on governments to, among other recommendations, prioritize human well-being in all key decisions, stop new fossil fuel explorations and subsidies, tax polluters and implement WHO air quality guidelines.

“Climate change is one of the greatest threats to humanity. The entire foundation of good health is in jeopardy with increasingly severe climatic events. In Africa, frequent floods, water- and vector-borne diseases are deepening health crises. Although the continent contributes the least to global warming, it bears the full consequences,” said Dr Matshidiso Moeti, WHO Regional Director for Africa.

The WHO analysis found that water-borne diseases accounted for 40% of the climate-related health emergencies over the past two decades. In Africa, diarrhoeal diseases are the third leading cause of disease and death in under 5 children. A significant proportion of these deaths is preventable through safe drinking water, adequate sanitation and hygiene.

The analysis also showed that vector-borne diseases, notably yellow fever, accounted for 28% of the climate-related health emergencies, while zoonotic diseases, specifically Congo-Crimean haemorrhagic fever, were the third most prevalent. Congo-Crimean haemorrhagic fever is a viral disease transmitted to people from ticks and livestock and has an outbreak fatality rate of up to 40%.

Natural disasters have also spiked dramatically since 2010, with 70% of all-natural disasters occurring between 2017 and 2021. Floods were the most frequent event, accounting for 33% of all the reported natural disasters.

Africa is also grappling with other significant health impacts linked to climatic shocks including malnutrition and hunger due to adverse weather on agricultural production, long-term health and development challenges in children, as well as other infectious diseases such as malaria.

In Africa, climate change is likely to expand the range of malaria high-risk zones, according to a report by the Netherlands-based Global Centre on Adaptation. Even though malaria mortality has decreased from 840 000 deaths in 2000 to 602 000 deaths in 2020, the disease remains a major health challenge on the continent.

Climate change impact is also likely to slow the progress against hunger, with an additional 78 million people in Africa facing chronic hunger by 2050, according to the report.

WHO is supporting countries to reinforce their health systems to adapt, be more resilient and better cope with climate-linked emergencies. The measures include assessing health system weaknesses, developing and implementing measures to cushion people’s lives and health from the adverse consequences of climate-related health crises.

The Organization is also assisting governments to ensure that their ministries of health can effectively coordinate, improve understanding and monitor climate change risks and impacts on health. Progress is being made. For instance, in Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania, WHO has worked with the health authorities to set up an early warning and response system to predict the risk of vector- and water-borne disease and respond effectively.

WHO takes a “One Health and All Hazards” approach to climate-related public health events. The approach is based on the premise that human, animal and ecosystem health is interconnected and requires a coordinated approach to tackle and resolve the challenges. As such WHO works closely with experts and partner organizations in public, animal, plant and environmental health to reduce public health risks attributable to climate change.

“We Need New Leaders, Not A New Currency”

The country’s inflation continues spiralling under President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s  government due to the imminent introduction of a new currency Z $100 note by the central bank  note as the local currency continues to plunge into the economic abyss.

By Leonard Koni- The centre is not holding. What kind of a country which always introduces a new currency every year? If we really had the strongest currency in the country surely we shouldn’t be introducing a new currency annually.

The country’s economy is again spiralling downwards without any hope of recovering. Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube is always blowing hot and cold and does not even have iota of an idea on how to fix the problem.

Be biggest scam of our generation was to believe that Mthuli was the best Finance Minister.

The so called strongest currency has become a mockery to the nation.

The appetite for looting the country’s resources is out of this world. All these economic challenges we are facing today were authored by this bogus government masquarading as the people’s government.

It’s unfortunate that we are slowly being thrown to the deep end of Gedion Gono’s hit and run economic policies.

No signs of life in the economy. There are not even plans set aside to refurbish or modernise our delapitating infrastructure and hospitals around the country. Some of our hospitals were built during the Ian Smith regime and are in a sorry state.

This deep economic crisis does not listen to party sloganeering or moved by party regalia but needs a leadership which will put all the hands on the deck and confront the challenges. It does not need political hallucinations from the likes of Obert Mpofu who said Zanu-PF will lead forever.

It is not about introducing new currency but it’s about introducing new inclusive ideas of politics through embracing other people’s ideologies and building strong democracies thus instilling confidence in the market.

Zanu-PF government has no capacity to steer the country to an economic powerhouse. This government is averse to stability.

Zimbabwe has a lot of emerging vibrant leaders fit for global hegemony but the country is being dragged backwards by political leaders who think they have a right to the title deeds to this nation.

“Stop Subverting The People’s Will Through Recalls”

Dear Editor,

When the MDC split for the first time in 2005, no Member of Parliament was recalled. They were all allowed to freely take sides with either the group which included Professor Welshman Ncube and the late Gibson Sibanda, or the one led by the late Dr. Morgan Tsvangirai.

I recall Blessing Chebundo initially going with the late Gibson Sibanda’s group but later returned to the Morgan Tsvangirai-led group.

This was a gentlemen’s agreement and a preferred way of resolving issues. It should be noted that at this point in time, Mr. Douglas Mwonzora was not in the leadership ranks of the MDC.

Fast forward to 2013/14, the MDC-T led by Dr. Tsvangirai split again, this time, Mr. Tendai Biti and Mr. Elton Mangoma led one faction while Dr. Tsvangirai led another. By then. Mr. Mwonzora had an influential role in the party.

Unlike the gentlemen’s agreement of 2005 where there were no recalls, this time Mr. Biti and those who were on his side were recalled from Parliament. Would one say it was the influence of Mr. Mwonzora, given that the same had not happened in 2005?

Reflecting on the two scenarios above, and in my analysis of the situation, recalls should not apply where splits occur in political parties where a large number of MPs choose to separate, such as the split which separated Advocate Nelson Chamisa and Mr. Douglas Mwonzora.

Interestingly, Mr. Mwonzora told a press conference held after the announcement of the 26 March by-election that he was not going to recall more MPs, saying the process to recall sixteen Councillors announced just before the 2022 by-elections had begun way back in September of 2021, and there was no intention to recall more people from councils, parliament or senate.

MDC-T Chairman Morgan Komichi admitted that the people had rejected the MDC-T. The people who elected parliamentarians and councilors who were recalled had shown the Douglas Mwonzora led MDC-T that Mwonzora and his team were in the wrong direction.  With this in mind, Mr. Mwonzora, Mr. Komichi, and the rest of the MDC-T leadership must allow parliamentarians who the people want back to where they are to go back to where the people who elected are, to the new Citizens Coalition for Change without recalling them.

Importantly, the recall legislation does not say a political party must recall parliamentarians who cross the flow, but it says they can. Given this is a split, and taking into account the wishes of the people who elected them, those members of parliament who are called back to the party which represents the wishes of the people who elected them, by the people who elected them, should not be recalled.

Politics is the people, not the leaders, so when you find that the larger percentage of the people after the split of a party is not on your side, you should concede to the fact that yours is not the party that sponsored those parliamentarians and councilors.

Mr. Mwonzora, please stick to your post-election press conference message of not intending to recall any more parliamentarians and councilors. Please allow the parliamentarians to reconsider the people who elected them, and go join them where they are without them losing their seats.

This will demonstrate political maturity, such as the maturity that Morgan Tsvangirai and Gibson Sibanda had when they decided that parliamentarians should freely align themselves with the side they wanted to belong to without being recalled.

It is sheer cruelty to keep hostage because they fear losing their parliamentary seats, which to some are their only source of income. In any case, you will be destroying yourself from within by keeping disgruntled officials around you, and just let them go and make them and the people who elected them happy without punishing them, as long as you retain the allocation of money due under the Political Parties Finance Act

I hope this piece of advice falls on some listening ears. Please be a gentleman and respect the wishes of the people so that your political shelf-life is extended.

“Stop Terrorists Hiding Under Dudula Before It Is Too Late”

Please can you stop the killing of helpless Zimbabweans on the streets of South Africa. Images of Zimbabweans being set alight and being killed in broad daylight are becoming so common.

There is a perception that these are state sanctioned killings. We now have a terrorist organisation called Dudula that is publicly declaring war on Zimbabweans.

Surely, there is something wrong. Imagine a Zimbabwean organisation declaring war on South Africans on  national TV. What will be the reaction of the South African government?

Why is the Zimbabwean government quiet? Why are they not doing anything about these atrocities? For how long is our government going to allow them to be assassinated like wild animals?

Why is the South African government not condemning the action of Dudula? No African should be killed because of his or her nationality.

The silence of the South African government is a true indication that they support this dangerous terrorist organisation called Dudula.

I kindly request our President His Excellency ED Mnangagwa to immediately request the South African government to ACT NOW and stop the killing of Zimbabwean people immediately.

We have South Africans and South African businesses operating in Zimbabwe and if the South African government does not stop these mindless atrocities.

Watching our fathers and brothers being set alight and killed on the streets of South Africa will definitely lead to Zimbabwe’s retaliation which will have very serious repercussions for both countries.

We have pick n pay, unki mine, Nampak, etc South African business operating in Zimbabwe. If this trend continues Zimbabwe will call for some kind of sanctions by the locals.

As a citizen of Zimbabwe NO ONE should lose their life because they are Zimbabweans, the killings and harassment should STOP immediately. “PAPA STOP THE WAR.”
