Former ZBC Correspondent Opens Up On State Media Journalists’ Challenges

VETERAN journalist and former ZBC correspondent Tapfuma Machakaire has  shed light on challenges faced by state media journalists when covering Gukurahundi, saying they were only shown dead bodies accompanied by government press statements.

There have been questions on the role played by state media journalists at the time when late former president Robert Mugabe unleashed the North Korean trained Fifth Brigade to Matabeleland and Midlands to crackdown on dissent to his rule.

Government, through the state media, was in denial while the West downplayed the killings when news of the atrocities leaked. According to records, an estimated 20 000 people died in the atrocities, and many more suffered physical and psychological harm.

Machakaire bemoaned the challenges in covering Gukurahundi during a panel discussion on “journalism ethics in conflict situations” on the microblogging site, Twitter, hosted by the United States embassy last Wednesday.

“But how ethical could one be? We did not have access to information.

“The only information that one could get was the information from the government about operations that they were conducting, not necessarily operations about the atrocities that they were alleging,” noted Machakaire.

“None of the perpetrators have been held accountable for the atrocities of the 1980s.

“Those implicated include many who are now the ruling elites, including President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

“The little that Mugabe has said since the 1980s has been a mixture of obfuscation and denial, saying the massacres were a ‘moment of madness’.”

Machakaire said journalists were taken to sites to be shown dead bodies with no questions asked.

“And you can’t balance your story. You are just sitting there. You are shown bodies and they give you a statement and that’s it,” he added.

United States embassy charge d’ affaires Thomas Hastings said press freedom and respect for human rights are critical in preventing conflicts and ensuring peace.

“The United States seeks to prevent conflicts in part by promoting the democratic values that underpin a stable international system because we believe that system is critical to freedom and prosperity and peace,” Hastings said.

“A free media, especially plays an important role in conflict situations, in getting the word out to the rest of the world about what’s on the ground, in shaping public opinion and ultimately in helping to hold those responsible for violence to account.”

Former Washington Post Africa bureau chief and now journalism professor at Duke University Stephen Buckley said: “The fact of the matter is that covering conflict these days is more complicated than ever, in part because, first of all, wars are now fought both on the battlefield and via social media.

“And so that means that every conflict potentially is a conflict that we all get to participate in.”

Mnangagwa has opened public discussion on Gukurahundi, but there has been little movement on the ground on truth telling, exhumations and reburials and restorative justice as demanded by victims.-standard

ZBC Shuts Down Employees’ Whatsapp Groups

By A Correspondent- Workers at the loss-making state broadcaster, ZBC, are up in arms against Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Adelaide Chikunguru over many grievances, which include salary increment and Covid-19 allowance delays.

Sources at ZBC allege they have been trying to meet with Chikunguru since her debated appointment as substantive CEO in June last year, but she has been avoiding them.

The sources said things deteriorated sharply after she ordered the closure of all ZBC related Whatsapp groups on Friday last week, alleging they were being used to leak the company’s confidential information.

“She ordered the disbandment of all ZBC Whatsapp groups as she alleges that employees were leaking in-house communication to the press and social media influencers,” an employee who preferred anonymity for fear of reprisals said.

“ZBC had three groups in which employees engaged to discuss work related issues as well as their social issues. They were also useful in communication between employees and the workers committee. We also used them to mobilise funds to assist each other in times of need, say someone loses a family member,” the source said.

“The ban was communicated verbally during a works council meeting held on Friday. She ordered that these groups should be disbanded and those responsible for them have since complied,” the source added.

“The order was against the background of a letter that went viral on the social media regarding the delay of the March salaries and the controversy surrounding the purchase of 33 Nissan Navara vehicles which was leaked to the press,” the source further said.

Chikunguru denied the claims when contacted by NewZimbabwe.com Saturday.

“I do not think that is correct. Are you sure that you are talking to ZBC employees? I doubt your sources madam and I also doubt your intentions,” Chikunguru said.

But unbeknown to her, screenshots of messages confirming the ban had already been shared with NewZimbabwe.com.

“Good evening, everyone. Take note that we have been given an instruction to disband all ZBC app groups with immediate effect, so we are only implementing it as it is,” an administrator in one of the groups informed participants.

“We are writing to the authorities that we will physically address you on Monday giving you feedback on today’s works council. Further instructions clarifying the app groups position shall come thank you. This indiscriminately applies to all app groups, be it sectional or regional groups as long as they concern employees of the referenced company. Please stand guided accordingly,” the admin further posted.

ZBC employees also said they have been seeking an audience with Chikunguru over their US$75 monthly Covid-19 allowances which have not been paid for the past two months.

Zanu PF DCC Steals Donations

By A Correspondent- ZANU PF Shamva District Co-ordinating Committee (DCC) chairperson is being accused of stealing donations and fuel meant for President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s clean up campaign cum rally in Shamva, Mashonaland Central province.

DCC chairperson Obert Muchemwa is accused of stealing fuel and money adding up to US$800. party officials have said.

Officials who spoke to Bulawayo24.com said Muchemwa tried to cover his tracks by donating a cow worth US$200 to Mnangagwa.

“We are worried with the massive level of corruption by DCC Muchemwa who swindled donations worth US$800 and only gave the President a cow worth US$200 when he came for a clean up campaign a fortnight ago in Shamva,” said the source.

“It is against the tradition of the party to file a police report against party leaders but supporters are dismayed with his graft tendencies.”

Contacted for comment Muchemwa refused to comment and switched off his mobile phone.

However, a lot of underhand dealings and corruption is reportedly happening in Mashonaland Central with some officials name dropping President Mnangagwa in their shenanigans.

In Mazowe a village head stole 10 bags of fertiliser meant for the Presidential input scheme beneficiaries but where recovered after the culprit was ordered to return the loot.

Chamisa Goes Rural

By- Citizens Coalition for Change leader, Nelson Chamisa has shifted his focus to the rural areas.

Chamisa is targeting to increase the opposition’s rural vote, with a focus on mobilising the youth to register as voters.

In an interview with NewZimbabwe.com, CCC Midlands spokesperson Takavafira Zhou said Chamisa, who visited the Midlands structures on Friday, instructed leadership to campaign in rural areas. Said Zhou:

The President… highlighted the need to amplify CCC’s rural strategy and stressed that CCC’s major thrust would be on growing rural votes, with an immediate inundation strategy of rural areas to mobilise youths to register to vote.

He also stressed the need to reform Zec so that it can conduct free, fair and credible results.

But most importantly, CCC would ensure that people vote en masse for it and protect the votes in 2023.

His message was more on CCC accountability, transparency and equity; and servant leadership that would ensure better things for all Zimbabweans in order to fulfil the legacy of the liberation struggle.

Zhous said Chamisa was in Midlands Province to thank voters following the CCC’s victory in three constituencies in the province in the 26 March by-elections. Zhou said:

The president came to thank the citizens for firing yellow warning shots in a warmup or dress rehearsal for 2023.

Gokwe received the greatest commendation in light of the increased votes and rigging that ensued.

Out of 5 contested constituencies, CCC emerged victorious in 3 constituencies. President Chamisa reiterated the need to put citizens at the centre of CCC’s struggle for egalitarianism.

Candidate selection for CCC for 2023 would be determined by citizens before the end of 2022, and the days of double candidates would be a thing of the past as the President would directly sign for all candidates.

CCC candidates won Kwekwe Central, Mbizo and Mkoba but lost in Gokwe Central and Mberengwa South.

Chamisa Saves Khupe From Attack

By-Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has saved the former MDC-T deputy president Thokozani Khupe from being attacked by his party youths.

CCC youths attempted to block Khupe from attending a CCC Bulawayo provincial assembly meeting on Saturday, accusing her of being a sellout. One of the youths said:
Khupe, you are not welcome here. All along you were dining and wining with (President Emmerson) Mnangagwa, busy plotting the destruction our party.
You even recalled from parliament some of our leaders whom you want to meet today. Are you not ashamed of what you did?
Chamisa rebuked the youths for their intolerance, saying he did not invite Khupe to the meeting but as a citizen, she had a right to attend the meeting. Said Chamisa:
I am not a leader of a violent people; I am not a leader of a violent community and I will never accept violence.
This is why I left MDC to form a peaceful organisation with God-fearing supporters.
I do not want this coalition to resemble a Mnangagwa organisation or even that of Mugabe.
I am not happy with those youths who are blocking Khupe. I did not invite her, but she has the right, as a citizen, to be in this meeting.
Khupe later tweeted that she had attended her “first meeting as a CCC member addressed by President Chamisa in Bulawayo Macdonald Hall”.
Last month Khupe endorsed Chamisa and CCC candidates ahead of the 26 March by- elections.

CCC leadership is divided on whether to accept Khupe as a member due to her former close association with President Emmerson Mnangagwa when she was a member of the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD).

Chamisa Youths Block Khupe From Attending CCC Rally

By-Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) youths attempted to block former MDC-T deputy president Thokozani Khupe from attending a CCC Bulawayo provincial assembly meeting on Saturday.

The CCC youths barred Khupe from attending the meeting which was addressed by the opposition party’s leader, Nelson Chamisa, at McDonald Hall in Bulawayo, accusing her of being a sellout. One of the youths said:
Khupe, you are not welcome here. All along you were dining and wining with (President Emmerson) Mnangagwa, busy plotting the destruction our party.
You even recalled from parliament some of our leaders whom you want to meet today. Are you not ashamed of what you did?

MDC Councilors Plot Coup Against Mwonzora

By-MDC Alliance councillors in Bulawayo are said to be planning to dump their party President Douglas Mwonzora.

This came out of a caucus meeting of the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) two weeks ago.

The CCC caucus was chaired by former Bulawayo deputy mayor, Tinashe Kambarami and former Bulawayo Senator, Matson Hlalo.

The caucus reportedly discussed a possible move for the councillors to pass a vote of no confidence against the city’s Town Clerk, Christopher Dube and the Mayor, Councillor Solomon Mguni.

In leaked audio to the Councillors’ WhatsApp group, Clr Ndlovu accused MDC Alliance Councillors of being sell-outs, claiming that the majority are planning to ditch Mwonzora just before the 2023 general elections. Ndlovu said:

I have a question Bulawayo councillors, I will exclude two people or just maybe one from this group, and the person I will remove is the chief whip, Clr Silas Chigora.

I will exclude you chief whip because you stand for what you say. People have been accusing you of causing the recall of councillors until we realised that you are innocent and you have clearly stated that you are a member of the MDC-T.

What I would like to know is who exposed me that I attended the CCC caucus, who leaked, I am asking, who exposed me.

I would like to say the truth right now and right here that even the MDC-T president Mwonzora is dull, if he was clever he would recall all the sell-outs from Bulawayo.

In this group there is not even one councillor going with Mwonzora, the majority of you are saying they will leave him during the last days of your terms.

Ndlovu further claimed that there were some MDC Alliance Councillors who attended a meeting with CCC leader Nelson Chamisa in Harare, recently.

When contacted for a comment by The Sunday News, Ndlovu confirmed that she was indeed the one speaking in the audio and stood by what she said.

Reports suggest that the majority of MDC Alliance MPs and Councillors across the country now support Chamisa after Mwonzora’s party failed to win a single parliamentary seat or ward in the 26 March by-elections.

Chamisa Welcomes Khupe

By- The Nelson Chamisa’s Citizens Coalition For Change (CCC) party has welcomed the leader of the splinter MDC-T party leader, Thokozani Khupe

Khupe on Saturday announced that she was now a CCC member after she attended a meeting that was addressed by the party’s leader Nelson Chamisa at Macdonald Hall in Bulawayo. Tweeted Khupe:

Today I attended my first meeting as a CCC member addressed by President Chamisa in Bulawayo Macdonald Hall.
Khupe pledged her support to Chamisa’s CCC just before the 26 March by-elections.
However, some CCC members were reportedly reluctant to accept Khupe, warning that she might be a ZANU PF plant due to her previous association with President Emmerson Mnangagwa when she was a member of the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD).

CCC interim national chairperson Thabitha Khumalo recently said she will not allow Khupe to join the party unless she apologises for her role in destroying the MDC Alliance.
Khumalo told the media that will never forgive Khupe for initiating her recall from parliament when the latter was interim MDC-T president.

In an interview, CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere told NewsDay that the party was open to all citizens willing to join regardless of their political background. Mahere was quoted as saying:

We focus on values, actions and policies, not personalities. Chamisa said in his 2022 Agenda address that this is a year of action for change.
The guiding value is that we put the citizens first and they are at the centre of all decision-making.
The only qualification to join is that one is a citizen. The citizens will choose their leaders at the appropriate time.

Khupe through her spokesperson Ntando Ndlovu said she intended to join the CCC as an individual, not as a party leader. Said Ndlovu:
The former Deputy Prime Minister is of the view that to defeat an authoritarian government like ZANU PF, the opposition political parties must unite and form a formidable force against ZANU PF.
As it currently stands, the only capable alternative to Zanu PF is the CCC party and, therefore, she believes that opposition political players must coalesce under CCC and rally behind Chamisa.
Alliances have caused problems before. People must join as opposed to forming alliances.

Mwonzora Aides Flock To Chamisa

By- Douglas Mwonzora’s MDC-T top officials are said to be deserting the party and joining the Nelson Chamisa led CCC.

Reports say that this has left the CCC political grouping in a quandary as to whether to admit or reject defectors

Chamisa has extended the olive branch to former colleagues within MDC-T since the launch of CCC in January this year.

Reports suggest that more MDC-T members are keen on joining CCC after the Mwonzora-led party failed to win a single parliamentary seat or ward in the 26 March by-elections.

Mwonzora’s former close ally, Fungai Chiposi, recently defected to CCC, with other former MDC-T high-ranking officials willing to join CCC.

MDC-T former vice-president Thokozani Khupe has endorsed Chamisa and Abednico Bhebhe (ex-organising secretary) has already joined CCC.

However, CCC interim national chairperson Thabitha Khumalo has declared that she would not allow Khupe’s admission to the CCC, calling her a snake in the house.

In an interview with NewsDay, CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said the opposition did not discriminate against anyone and every citizen is free to join. Said Mahere:

We focus on values, actions and policies, not personalities. Chamisa said in his 2022 Agenda address that this is a year of action for change.

The guiding value is that we put the citizens first and they are at the centre of all decision-making.

The only qualification to join is that one is a citizen. The citizens will choose their leaders at the appropriate time.

Meanwhile, Khupe through her spokesperson Ntando Ndlovu, on Friday told NewsDay that she wants to join CCC as an ordinary member.

Introducing ZW$100 Note Is Ill-Advised: Biti

Former Zimbabwe Finance Minister Tendai Biti has said the move by the Reserve Bank to introduce a ZW$100 note is ill advised and a waste of time.Biti said the fact that the note can not buy anything on its own is a testimony that it will not solve matters.

“Introducing that note is a mere waste of time, it will not solve anything, the whole currency is useless, inflation is rising everyday, so how will the note which cannot buy anything on its own solve anything? Said Biti

Biti who is regarded as one of the finest finance Ministers Zimbabwe has ever had said the only solution to Zimabwe’s financial crisis is dollarizing or having a strong currency which has a strong backing.

“RBZ should just dollarize or establish a strong local currency but that should be backed with exports and currently the country is not producing anything so the solution is to dollarize,” said Biti

Recently, during at Zimbabwe Public Debt Indaba in Harare recently, Biti called for the disbandment of RBZ saying it has now become a liability to the nation, has become the government and is failing to attend to its core business.

Economists and the business community are sceptical over the introduction of a new note saying the new denomination is too little given the chronic hyperinflationary environment the country is operating in.

During the days of Gideon Gono as governor of RBZ, Zimbabwe had a banknote with a denomination of one hundred trillion Zimbabwean dollars.

Economist Prosper Chitambara said the introduction of the ZW$100 note, would do little to bail out Zimbabwe out of the prevailing economic situation.

“It is a welcome development but ZW$100 in my view is too little and has been overtaken by the chronic hyperinflationary developments. It will not do much to enhance confidence and convenience in the local currency.”

If we convert the new denomination into US$ at an official rate, we get about 68 cents and using the parallel market rate we get about 40 cents, thus ZW$ 100 is not enough to buy a loaf of bread or a newspaper,” said Chitambara.

Another economist Vincent Muswere said historically the introduction of higher denomination bills has always rendered small denominations valueless.

“The introduction of the ZW$ 100 banknote is well overdue given how prices are ever-rising. I will not even be surprised if we have at some stage gone up to ZW$200 like what South Africa has done.

However, there is always an impact when introducing higher denomination notes, business people make up prices at a round figure, so there is inherent inflationary pressure by introducing higher denomination notes.

“Also there is an impact on lower denomination notes. When the ZW$50 note was introduced, the ZW$5 suddenly disappeared, in this case, the ZW$10 note might become a thing of the past,” said Muswere.

Another economist Caleb Gwaindepi said the move from an economic perspective would translate to the continued loss of value on Zimbabwean currency.

“In the past when Zimbabwe had hyperinflation, the authorities introduced bigger denominations of the local currency as a way of enabling people to hold on to money and ensure convenience.

Basically, in economic terms it means the currency continues losing value hence it is an issue of credibility of the currency.”

If the currency continues losing credibility and they continue introducing more bigger denominations, like tomorrow it would be 200, the next time it is 500 or 1000 up to millions, billions or trillions like what happened in the past, basically what it means is that the monetary authorities do not expect their currency to hold value and therefore such introduction might only be done on the pretext of trying to ensure convenience on the part of people to have access to money, but there is no need to introduce larger denominations when you have money.”

Considering that the world is going towards plastic/electronic money, once we see government introducing more paper money or higher denominations, it seems as if they do not expect people to accept their bills because we would have expected that they encourage electronic transactions but given that they are continuing to introduce more and more paper money, it means it is becoming physical where people are not expected to go electronic and not expecting other countries to accept your currency.

As a result they want usage of that currency to be limited within national boundaries as it cannot be used outside as convertible money. In short the situation foretells a bleak future in as far as local currency is concerned and the country may sooner or later revert to the use of millions, billions or even trillions,” said Gwaindepi.

Collen Jonasi who is also an economist is downbeat with what government has done saying the move is going to cause more instability in the market.

“Given what the government has done, the market will react. This is going to cause more instability in the market. The economic participants especially the ones in the informal sector will make sure that the smallest item will be selling at that ZW$100 note. In my view, it is not a good idea for government to introduce a bill that does not buy any significant commodity like bread. It is the wastage of resources printing those bills.”

Also, the first people we shall see having that bill first are the illegal foreign currency traders on the streets, once that money floods the market, the next thing is the skyrocketing of exchange rates,” he said.

Masvingo-based business person is of the view that the move by government to inject the ZW$100 into the already fragile economy is meant to mop US$ from the informal market.

“It is an additional injection of printed money that may be meant to facilitate mopping of additional US $ from the informal market.”

The introduction of the ZW$100 note coincides to support war collaborators that are being currently vetted. The outcome is a further weakening of the local currency that results in increased prices for RTGS pegged goods,” said the business person.

Consumer Council of Zimbabwe(CCZ) Masvingo regional manager Ndumiso Mgutshini is upbeat about the introduction of the new denomination saying it will ease the burden on consumers.

“It is a welcome move as some lower notes like ZW$5 are no longer accepted in the market. The new note will ease the burden on consumers of carrying large sums of notes as we are currently witnessing that some are carrying in paper bags and satchels,” said Mgutshini.

The RBZ on April 06 2022, issued a notice announcing that it is going to introduce a new banknote as gazetted in Statutory Instrument 68A of 2022 by the Minister of Finance and Economic Development.

Grant Looting Of Public Funds Exposed In Auditor General’s Report

Auditor General Mildred Chiri has tabled her 2020 report to Parliament, and it again lays bare the mismanagement of tax dollars by Government.

Payments were made with no paper trail, goods – from cars to teachers’ blankets and cutlery – were paid for but never received, and government officials aren’t listening to what the AG is recommending on how to fix the repeated accounting problems.

In 2020, Treasury recorded foreign direct payments worth US$300 599 941 behalf of 16 Ministries, but there was no reconciliation with the departments.

“However, I noted that a number of Ministries were not aware of these payments and did not acknowledge these transactions. As at November 15, 2021, five line Ministries disputed Treasury disbursements from Direct Payments totaling US$183 638 970,” the report says.

Payments worth US$20.7 million were made to suppliers on behalf of the Ministry of Finance in 2020, but not uploaded in the Public Financial Management System.

In 2020, three Ministries paid for cars worth Z$117 042 902.

By September 2021, the cars had not been delivered. The Ministry of Information paid for seven cars from Solution Motors and 17 from Motor City.

The Ministry told auditors that “delivery of motor vehicles was delayed due to some technical challenges faced by the suppliers”.

The Ministries of Housing and Justice bought three cars apiece, all six were not delivered.

The Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation had also not received two cars they paid for in 2017, a matter already raised in the 2019 audit report, but ignored.

The Tourism Ministry paid for 13 laptops, 13 Samsung Galaxy tablets and 50 school desks in 2020.

None of these were delivered. At the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, government ordered 260 blankets and kitchen utensils for teachers’ hostels.

It also ordered tables and chairs. The blankets never came, and the furniture delivered was not the type paid for.

Auditors found that the office tables were smaller than the type that the Ministry had ordered.

The Ministry told the auditors that one of the suppliers, Michmart Investments, said it delivered the wrong furniture because “he indicated that prices had gone up and (supplier) had the intention to request for price variation, which they did not do.”

Dead-end road projects*Government has made roadworks one of the centerpieces of its infrastructure programme, but it is failing to fund them properly.

The government is taking on many projects, but not completing them, the AG found.

In 2020, Ministry of Transport planned for 37 road development projects.

This included repair of roads damaged by Cyclone Idai and other roadworks. But 15 of those projects were not put on the budget properly, resulting in Z$9.7 billion from the unallocated reserve from an initial budget of Z$2 billion.

There were 13 other unbudgeted for road projects, which cost Z$185 million.

According to the AG, these irregular payments “may result in having a number of projects partly done if the few resources are spread on too many projects at one go”.

Out of money, the Ministry of Transport asked for more funding from Treasury to complete 15 suspended projects.

Treasury approved another Z$936 million for these 15 projects in September 2020, but only five of them were completed by the end of the year.

Eric Knight Rallies Zimbabweans To Register To Vote In 2023

By Eric Knight on fb
Hello Zimbabwe!
Hello Citizens!

Just to make the record straight.
When I speak, I speak out of passion, affection and dedication to my country. I don’t do insultive or personal politics.

I don’t want any position or role that’s not God ordained and I am not going to contest for any position.
I am not angling to be an MP, a Councillor, a Ward Leader, a Senator or Mayor. Not at all!

I’m even prepared to sit at the corner of a street and sell bananas in a free and happy Zimbabwe than wear a tie and suit to work in an office that oppresses people.

Ask my brother, friend and Change Champion In Chief Nelson Chamisa, I told him and intelligent as he is, he understood.
It’s not about Positions and Posts, it’s about People and Progress at national level.

It’s about citizens and communities combining comradely and coordinating for a course as a country.

When we say citizens, we don’t mean only our CCC supporters, we mean every Zimbabwean, you, me, your parents, your children, your grandparents and grandchildren children.

When we say citizens, we mean Doctors, nurses, teachers, farmers, war vets, students, CEOs, soldiers, police officers, cleaners, domestic workers, civil servants, vendors, pastors and businessmen.

Remember when there is misgovernance and a bad economy, it affects every citizen directly or indirectly.
When the economy is good and there is good governance, equally it benefits every citizen directly or indirectly.

This is not a time to play Party politics. Parties come and go but your country is your permanent heritage that even your children will depend on when you are no longer there . Don’t mess around with it!

When we say 2023 is the Year of Citizens, it’s not just a Party gimmick. We are saying as you vote, vote considering your life and other citizens.
Vote with a sober mind. Look around the country and ask yourself, is this the Zimbabwe you really want to see?

Think deeply and go down Memory Lane as far as 40years back if you were born or even 20years back if you are younger, compare with the other countries you have been to before you vote.

Ask yourself again, do you think we are being governed properly, is the country getting better or worse?

Don’t be blinkered by Political Party spectacles and don’t be Political Party prisoners by voting blindly just because its your Party.
Even if you were once Zapu, ZanuPf, ZUM, NPF before, come and stand with the Citizens. It is wisdom to change for the better in any life aspect.

Don’t feel ashamed.
Don’t feel defeated.
You only win when your country is well governed, not when your Party wins.
Otherwise we are all losers.
Don’t say what will people say.

It’s not being unpatriotic when you demand a change that is good for your country.

Why change.. because there has been no meaningful progress since we attained independence in 1980.

The philosophical definition of foolishness is, Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting the same results.’
We gave these people in government many chances.
Zimbabwe needs a fresh leadership.
You as a citizen must have a say.

Let’s reason together. It’s not just about Nelson Chamisa. It’s about you, me and us.

He is just the figurehead and the symbol of hope as our leader for now. He needs you.
That is why it’s a coalition of citizens who crave to see change.

And Yes I advise you to vote for Change.

Fake Title Deeds All Over

If you recently bought a property, are you sure it is properly registered in your name?
Well, there might be need to verify this with the Department of Deeds, Companies and Intellectual Property.

Of late, several people have been duped by a sophisticated network of criminals that fraudulently sold them properties whose owners had either relocated or died.

The Deeds Registry is currently streamlining its procedures through the introduction of a new digital system that is meant to curb corruption.

The system will create a paperless office and facilitate the electronic storage of deeds.

Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Permanent Secretary Mrs Virginia Mabhiza said this will improve efficiency and curb fraud.

“Automation is already in progress and the system will allow for stronger security and easier retrieval of files,” she said.

There has been an alarming increase in fake title deeds over the past three or so years.

A syndicate made up of bogus estate agents, lawyers and officials from the Deeds Registry is believed to be behind the scandal.

Corrupt or bogus police officials are in some instances roped in.

“The Office has so far discovered 24 fake title deeds for individually owned properties. Three fake company-owned title deeds have also been unearthed,” said The Registrar of Deeds, Ms Elizabeth Nyagura.

“The figures are for Harare only. Scanning of historical records is also underway in other towns and cities, but we are still to verify and make public our findings.”

While some fake documents have been discovered through the ongoing exercise, others have been discovered through due diligence by clients.

“We are also discovering some of the fake title deeds when a client brings a copy of the document he or she would have received from the purposed owner for verification.

“Most of these cases bear imitated Registrar’s signature or forged victim’s identity, leaving the other details of the original documents unchanged,” added Ms Nyagura.

According to reports, more than 10 suspects, including two lawyers, were arrested for forged deeds in Harare last year.

Naturally, the police are concerned and urging the public to be cautious.

“We have a number of fraud cases involving tampering with title deeds. The public needs to be vigilant when buying properties by following all the necessary verification steps to avoid falling prey,” said Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi.

Ms Nyagura added that they are also mulling introducing a Property Alert Service.

Under the system, a subscriber or property owner will receive an email or mobile notification to alert them each time there is an attempt to sell or mortgage their property.

“Our legislation has already been amended to enable the establishment of an electronic registry as well as having a securitised paper for those documents that still need to be done on paper. It comes with advanced features and will reduce the risk of imitations,” she explained.

Plans to amend Section 9 of the Deeds Registries Act, which gives the public access to title deeds and allow them to make photocopies, are also afoot.

The provision was largely made for banks and companies, but criminals are also taking advantage.

But the amendment will limit the application for copies strictly to the owner under strict guidelines.

“We have held several public awareness programmes to disseminate information to the public on how to identify fake title deeds and guard against fraudulent transactions. Our staff has also been trained on how to identify fake deeds and what to do when they discover one,” added Ms Nyagura.

The Maphosa siblings from Old Luveve, Bulawayo, were last year left counting their losses after buying a US$40 000 property with forged title deeds.

The property was said to be owned by Mlibazisi Ndebele.

However, a month later, the Deeds Office discovered their title deed was fake through the ongoing verification exercise.

It was discovered that the property was in actual fact owned and registered under the late Martha Mathe.

The duo was arrested, while Ndebele, who claimed ownership of the property and received payment, has since vanished.

In Harare, Martha Gwashure is currently embroiled in a battle to recover her late father Isidore Gwashure’s company after losing directorship to a ring of fraudsters.

Martha’s father died in 2003, leaving behind a company and a farm to his son MacDonald.

The late Gwashure’s attorney and the two siblings handled the estate as combined executors.

Years later, the attorney relocated, leaving Linda Banda as his replacement.

As fate would have it, MacDonald also died in 2019.

The grieving family did not promptly follow up on the estate.

A year later, Banda mysteriously withdrew from the estate and the family appointed Martha as the new executor.

It is then that Martha later discovered that the directorship of the company had been changed into a new name without any of the family members’ knowledge.

“We waited for some time but Banda did not do much and it got us all frustrated. It was only after I visited the Deeds Office that we discovered our title deeds had been tampered with.

“I also discovered that some crucial files were missing. We then tried to get in touch with Banda for clarification but she was no longer available. Up to now, no one knows where she is,” said Martha.

Spirited efforts by this publication to get in touch with Banda were also in vain. -Sunday Mail

War Between Fantan And Killer

The ongoing tussle between Chillspot Records and Zimdancehall chanter Silent Killer, whose real name is Jimmy Mudereri, has opened a can of worms.

Several artistes have come out in defence of Silent Killer, while labelling DJ Fantan (Arnold Kamudyariwa) a ‘tyrant’ and ‘crook’.

DJ Fantan is the co-owner of Chillspot.

The relationship between Silent Killer and DJ Fantan turned sour last year after the former assaulted the latter’s younger brother, Tinashe Kamudyariwa.

Chillspot then severed ties with the controversial chanter a few weeks ago.

Blot, real name Takura Chiwoniso, came out guns blazing following the announcement.

The talented muso was also fired from Chillspot a couple of years back after some serious disagreements over payment issues.

“Chillspot were wrong in the way they addressed Silent Killer’s issue. I have worked with them before and understand their brutal nature,” said Blot.

“I don’t like the way they are treating artistes under their stable. DJ Fantan and his colleagues behave like demigods or kingmakers. They act like they own our talent and we cannot excel without them.

“My demise was directly caused by Chillspot. I fell out of favour with them over monetary issues and they started sidelining me, suffocating my career. That is what they do when you stand your ground.

“I faced serious sabotage and they shifted their focus to Jah Master, who they used to replace me.”

Blot reckons DJ Fantan was supposed to compromise on Silent Killer’s issue.

However, DJ Fantan dismissed Blot’s allegation, describing him as “a reckless and undisciplined guy”.

“Chillspot Records does not hate anyone. There is no way we can just wake up and fire our artistes because we invest a lot in them. The decision will have been reached after serious considerations,” explained DJ Fantan.

We have guiding rules and regulations, and we cannot tolerate any artiste who does not respect them.”

In a country teeming with budding talent, he added, they could not be patient with rogue chanters. “Music talent is in abundance in this country. Our studio is overwhelmed as we speak. So, when someone fails to abide by our guiding principles, we simply severe ties with them,” said DJ Fantan.

However, most Zimdancehall artistes are sympathising with Silent Killer, though they are not willing to directly confront DJ Fantan. -Sunday Mail

Holiday Lessons Ban Continues- Govt

State Media: Govt has warned schools against offering extra lessons during the holidays, reiterating the position that such lessons remain illegal.

Director of communication and advocacy in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Mr Taungana Ndoro said extra lessons are illegal even for classes that will sit for public examinations later in the year.

“We have noted a trend that these schools are trying to circumvent the system by coming up with fancy names for these extra lessons,” said Mr Ndoro.

“Some are terming them vacations, others are saying they are retreats, but what won’t change is that these remain as extra lessons and extra lessons remain illegal for this term.

“Schools must stop misleading parents and pupils that they applied and got clearance from the Ministry, that is not true and any school that conducts these extra lessons must be prepared to face the consequences. Even if they apply they will never get the clearance this term,” said Mr Ndoro.

He said extra lessons were banned because they could potentially fuel the spread of Covid-19.

“The danger with these holiday lessons is that there won’t be proper monitoring taking place at these schools to ensure adherence to the Covid-19 prevention protocol.

“Hence they might expose both the learners and the teachers to this pandemic.” -Sunday Mail

Was Mai Titi Right To Employ South African Musicians While Elvis Nyathi Is Murdered And Zimbabweans Kicked Out Of SA?

By Dorrothy Moyo | Was comedian Mai Titi right by chosing to employ a South African musician for her wedding while her own people are being kicked out of South Africa? Tafadzwa Madhonko comments saying:

What is COGNITIVE DISSONANCE?

It is when Zimbabweans fully book South African artists like Kelly khumalo and Makhadzi to perform in Zimbabwe, allowing them to enjoy the aesthetics of freedom of work and association , whilst our very own people are continuously being maimed and slaughtered in South Africa for seeking the equity that will bring the same feels to life.

Kelly khumalo and Makhadzi are working in Zimbabwe But Zimbabweans are being denied the same feels in South Africa ?

The folly of Zimbabweans is in thinking it will not happen to me, Elvis did not wake up knowing He was going to be killed.

One day I want to write about a farmer who kept quiet when he saw an ox being gored because he thought the ox belonged to his neighbour. It was only when he looked closer that he came to realise it was indeed his Ox being gored.

I have sat with my anger the past few days until today she told me her real name was grief
Elvis should not rest in peace, what peace ??

Kaitano Tembo’s SuperSport United Crash Out Of Nedbank Cup

Zimbabwean coach Kaitano Tembo’s is once again under the microscope at SuperSport United, after his side surrendered a two goal lead last night, to lose to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) and crash out of the Nedbank Cup in the process.

The Pretoria-based side was leading 2-0 in the 62nd minute but TTM fought back to force the clash into extra time, and eventually won itl 3-2.

Last night’s result will likely pile more pressure on Tembo, whose position has been under scrutiny for weeks.

Reports in South Africa indicated this week that the SuperSport executive was hoping to lure former AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy to the club.

A source at the club told Soccer24 last night that the Stanley Matthews-led administration will deliberate on Tembo’s future soon.

“Look, everyone knows the team is not performing to its full potential, that may be due to a lot of factors, which may also be beyond the coach’s control but ultimately when things don’t go as planned, he will be the first to be scrutinised,” said the source.

“The executive will sit down with him and find out what is going on and also discuss his future.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

About Tuberculosis

On World TB Day, WHO calls for an urgent investment of resources, support, care and information into the fight against tuberculosis (TB).

Although 66 million lives have been saved since 2000, the COVID-19 pandemic has reversed those gains.

For the first time in over a decade, TB deaths increased in 2020. Ongoing conflicts across Eastern Europe, Africa and the Middle East have further exacerbated the situation for vulnerable populations.

Global spending on TB diagnostics, treatments and prevention in 2020 were less than half of the global target of US$ 13 billion annually by 2022.

For research and development, an extra US$ 1.1 billion per year is needed. “Urgent investments are needed to develop and expand access to the most innovative services and tools to prevent, detect and treat TB that could save millions of lives each year, narrow inequities and avert huge economic losses,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “These investments offer huge returns for countries and donors, in averted health care costs and increased productivity.”

Investments in TB programmes have demonstrated benefits not just for people with TB but for health systems and pandemic preparedness. Building on lessons learnt from COVID-19 research, there is a need to catalyse investment and action to accelerate the development of new tools, especially new TB vaccines.

Progress towards reaching the 2022 targets set in the UN High Level Meeting political declaration and the WHO Director-General’s Flagship Initiative Find.Treat.All is at risk mainly due to lack of funding. Between 2018–2020, 20 million people were reached with TB treatment.

This is 50% of the 5-year target of 40 million people reached with TB treatment for 2018-2022. During the same period 8.7 million people were provided TB preventive treatment. This is 29% of the target of 30 million for 2018-2022.

The situation is even worse for children and adolescents with TB. In 2020, an estimated 63 % of children and young adolescents below 15 years with TB were not reached with or not officially reported to have accessed life-saving TB diagnosis and treatment services; the proportion was even higher – 72% – for children under 5 years. Almost two thirds of eligible children under 5 did not receive TB preventive treatment and therefore remain at risk of illness.

COVID-19 has had a further negative and disproportionate impact on children and adolescents with TB or at risk, with increased TB transmission in the household, lower care-seeking and access to health services. WHO is sounding the alarm on World TB Day for countries to urgently restore access to TB services, disrupted due to COVID-19 pandemic for all people with TB, especially children and adolescents.

“Children and adolescents with TB are lagging behind adults in access to TB prevention and care”, said Dr Tereza Kasaeva, Director of WHO’s Global TB Programme. “The WHO guidelines issued today are a gamechanger for children and adolescents, helping them get diagnosed and access care sooner, leading to better outcomes and cutting transmission. The priority now is to rapidly expand implementation of the guidance across countries to save young lives and avert suffering”

Updated guidelines for the management of TB in children and adolescents
Updated guidelines for the management of TB in children and adolescents released by WHO today highlight new patient-centred recommendations for diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The most recent recommendations are:

Diagnostic testing has expanded to include non-invasive specimens, such as stools.
Rapid molecular diagnostics are recommended as the initial test for TB diagnosis for children and adolescents.

Children and adolescents who have non-severe forms of drug-susceptible TB are now recommended to be treated for four months instead of six months, as well as TB meningitis, where a six-month regimen is now recommended instead of 12 months. This promotes a patient-centred approach that will reduce the costs of TB care for children, adolescents and their families.
Two of the newest TB medicines to treat drug resistant TB (bedaquiline and delamanid) are now recommended for use in children of all ages, making it possible for children with drug-resistant TB to receive all-oral treatment regimens regardless of their age.
New models of decentralized and integrated TB care are also recommended, which will allow more children and adolescents to access TB care or preventive treatment, closer to where they live.
TB remains one of the world’s deadliest infectious killers. Each day, over 4 100 people lose their lives to TB and close to 30 000 people fall ill with this preventable and curable disease. Ending TB requires concerted action by all sectors. On World TB Day, WHO calls on everyone- individuals, communities, societies, donors and governments to do their part to end TB.

Mnangagwa Responsible for Elvis Nyathi’s Death

By Israel Dube | While we do not condon the killing of foreigners in SA by South African mobs that have taken the law into their own hands, the death of Elvis Nyathi at the hands of vigilantes in South Africa and many others who have died before either crossing the Limpopo river or when they are already in the country must be blamed on the Shona supremacist government of Zimbabwe. The silent killer is in Harare, Zimbabwe AKA Mashonaland!

The Zimbabwe government behaves like a brood parasitic bird that lays its eggs in other birds’ nests for its young to be hatched and raised by other birds.

We have in Harare a bunch of chest- thumbing tribalists who boast that they are the most educated people in Africa yet the everlasting political and economic crisis in Zimbabwe sells them out as the most incompetent in the whole African continent if not the world.

Zimbabwe, led by Shona people who claim monopoly to education and knowledge, has now become an unofficial 10th province of South Africa with political and economic refugees from all over Zimbabwe flooding into South Africa through means illegal and legal to survive. This has caused high competition with South Africans having to compete with foreigners especially Zimbabweans in the labour market. Health care, education and other institutions are overburdened leading to frustration and anger on the part of the citizens of South Africa.

Zimbabwe which is run by the people who claim to know it all is a failed state which is:

1) precariously sitting on the verge of a split into two states that will give birth to Matabeleland state which will join the family of nations as The Republic of Matabeleland

2) saddled with an unpaid and growing dept of over US $20 billion and burgeoning interest rates of US$13billion making a total sum of US$33billion.

3) without its own currency that officially collapsed on 12 April 2009

4) nose diving economy that has sent even the Shona people who claim to be the sole owners of Zimbabwe running to neighbouring and other countries

This is all due to unfettered and uncontrolled looting and plundering of national resources by Shona leaders who have a DNA of theft and corruption. These selfish and greedy people have insatiable appetite for opulence and extravagant life.

All the protests beatings and killing of foreigners in South Africa should be a rude awakening for Matabele people who are stateless. It is a fact that when the Shona supremacist government of Zimbabwe unleashed Zimbabwe National Army 5th Brigade in the 80s, you ran to South Africa to seek refuge and you were accepted. When the Shona supremacist government of Zimbabwe tribally segregated you in the labour market, educationally, economically and socially you ran to South Africa to seek refuge.

Perhaps this warm reception in South Africa has made us forget that we have our own country Matabeleland which is in the hands of black colonizers from Mashonaland. Remember, we are now in a sorry corner of statelessness where we are not welcome both in South Africa and Zimbabwe. This is not time to look for sympathy but to stand up and fight for our freedom from Zimbabwe. Why suffer in foreign lands when we have our country The Republic of Matabeleland, with vast land enough for all Matabeles, so rich in natural resources and mineral wealth that is currently being looted and plundered by foreigners from Zimbabwe?

We now have three options. Face the raging flames of anger in South Africa, face the raging tribal hatred in Zimbabwe that usually escalates to genocide or fight for the restoration of Matabeleland and break away from tribally oppressive and abusive government of Zimbabwe.

Fighting for the restoration of Matabeleland state is best. Home is best. We remind all Matabeles that the source of all our problems is the Shona supremacist government of Zimbabwe not South Africa. As we all know, freedom is too expensive. The highest price for freedom is blood. It (freedom) is never given on a silver platter but it has to be fought for by any means possible.

We have to take up arms and fight for our freedom. It is not a crime to take up arms and fight for your freedom, it is not a crime to take up arms and fight for what rightfully belongs to you. It is not a crime to take up arms and fight for your God given rights.

MLO has already prepared the ground by serving the government of Zimbabwe with a notice of demand.

1) we demand the restoration of Matabeleland state as at 3 November 1893 that will join the family of nations as The Republic of Matabeleland

2) payment of One hundred Billion United States dollars reparation for Matebele Genocide committed by the Zimbabwe government through the Zimbabwe National Army 5th Brigade, Central Intelligence Organisation ie CIO and Zimbabwe Republic Police Support Unit in 1981-87. This is a crime against humanity

Having said that we urge all Matebeles who are in South Africa legally and illegally to respect all laws and by laws and citizens of South Africa and avoid confrontations everywhere and everytime. All Matebeles in South Africa must desist from criminal activities never mind how tempting.

Separate yourselves from Shonas. Do not join them in all their criminal activities in South Africa, suspicious meetings and spreading of negative and provocative propaganda against South Africans. You Know their un-african, nefarious and nebulous Southern Africa Grand Plan to colonize, loot and plunder Southern Africa which is yet to be known by other brothers and sisters in Southern Africa. Their Grand Plan must be made to fail.

Last but not least, on behalf of MLO President, Cde Paul Siwela and MLO Supreme Council, I express my heartfelt condolences to the Nyathi family and relatives. May Elvis Nyathi’s soul rest in peace.

Further details were not available at the time of writing.

“Documented Or Not. Leave”: South Africans Tell Zimbabweans

By A Correspondent- Angry South Africans say they want all Zimbabweans, documented or otherwise, to leave the country as soon as possible or face more xenophobic violence.

This follows the callous murder of Zimbabwean father of four, Elvis Nyathi, Wednesday night.

A mob stormed his dwelling and pulled him from his hideout in Diepsloot, a massive slum settlement north of commercial capital Johannesburg, before stoning and setting him aflame to his gory death.

Speaking during an all stakeholders meeting co-chaired by police minister Bheki Cele and his home affairs counterpart Aaron Motsoaledi Friday, South Africans took turned to blame Zimbabweans as being responsible for all the crimes taking place in the shantytown.

Words were not minced as they demanded that the police’s Special Tactics Response Teams (TRTs) should urgently search, arrest, detention and deport any Zimbabwean.

South Africa Police Services (SAPS) and immigration officers launched an operation targeted at illegal immigrants Friday morning, arresting some and detaining them at the Diepsloot police station for processing.

“South Africans must start walking around with identity cards, our police are failing us we demand the TRT to start a stop, search and arrest operation. They should be allowed to ask who you are, where you are from and for your documentation,” one visibly angry resident said.

“It is not bringing back apartheid, South Africa for South Africans, that is how we want it as residents of Diepsloot. The police should search everyone. A solution will come from South Africans, we do not want Zimbabweans to intervene or assist us in coming up with a solution. We are the solution and we are saying they must leave, they must fokof, that is all. We do not want them to be part of the stakeholders meeting,” the man, sporting an unkempt moustache, said.

He said other people from other countries are not committing crimes.

“We want all Zimbabweans to leave because the ones that are documented are the ones that are bringing the undocumented here. Zimbabweans are killing us, they are entering our houses, our shacks. I reside here and know what I am talking about,” he said.

Nyathi, a gardener, was killed as a result of the ongoing Nhlanhla Dlamini-led Operation Dudula which is calling on residents to remove foreigners from their homes.

His gory end was captured on video and shared on social media

January Disease Threatens Chipinge Cattle

By A Correspondent- An outbreak of theileriosis, popularly known as January Disease, threatens to wipe off cattle in Chipinge District, with cases having been recorded in Wards 16, 20 and 22.

Chipinge District Livestock Promotion Officer, John Mwandifura confirmed the development, saying a team from the Veterinary Services Department is on the ground to assess the situation.

Chipinge Rural District Council’s Ward 20 Councillor Charles Mugidho told The Manica Post that a number of cattle have already succumbed to the disease but few farmers are reporting cases to the Vet Department. Said Mugidho:

We have received a number of cases where cattle are succumbing to January Disease.

The situation needs urgent intervention as villagers are losing their cattle to the disease every day.

We were told by a local Veterinary Services Department officer that the disease is caused by not dipping our cattle.

We have discovered that only a few farmers are reporting the outbreak of the disease to officials.

Some of them are selling their sick animals to local butcheries for a song.

Others are slaughtering the beasts and selling the meat to fellow villagers, thereby risking so many people’s lives.-ManicaPost

ED Challenger Summoned By The Police

By A Correspondent- Zanu-PF activist Sybeth Musengezi, who challenged President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s legitimacy at the High Court in 2021, has been summoned by the police.

Musengezi last year filed papers at the High Court seeking nullification of the November 19, 2017 Zanu-PF central committee resolution that confirmed Mnangagwa as the acting party president.

In court papers, Musengezi said Mnangagwa’s ascendancy was fraught with irregularities.

But Musengezi has accused police of intimidating him ahead of the High Court ruling after they summoned him for questioning over an undisclosed issue.

His lawyers, Ncube Attorneys, on January 7, 2021 wrote to the police requesting them to disclose why they were looking for him.

In response, one detective Mirimbo in a letter dated April 6, 2022 did not specify why they wanted to question Musengezi.

“Reference is made to your letter dated January 7 2021 in connection to the above subject. We are kindly inviting you and your client Sybeth Musengezi to come to Law and Order Harare for interviews. May you please treat this issue as a matter of urgency,” Mirimbo wrote.

Musengezi yesterday said he would go for the interview.

“I shall co-operate with the plice and hand myself in for the ‘interview’,” he posted on Twitter.

In his founding affidavit, Musengezi also argues that Mnangagwa’s leadership of the country was illegitimate because he rose to the post through an “unconstitutional” November 19 central committee session.

Vehicle Scam Haunts Gvt Ministries

By A Correspondent- A vehicle scam has hit the government, with several ministries, including Information and Justice, spending millions of dollars in purchasing vehicles that were not delivered, in a development that exposes gross corruption within the regime.

Millions of dollars were used since 2015 to 2019 to buy vehicles for government ministries, but it emerged the most of the cars were not delivered, while others were not registered and open to abuse by senior officials.

Those delivered were often bought at inflated prices, with the government paying way beyond the quoted prices.

In her Appropriation Accounts, Finance and Revenue Statements and Fund Accounts, for the year ended 2020, Auditor-General Mildred Chiri revealed that the ministry of Information bought 29 vehicles, but only received five.

By the time of the audit, the rest of the vehicles were yet to be delivered.

“According to the General Conditions of Contract (GCC) 19.1 of the Contract of Sale entered into between the Ministry and Vehicle suppliers during 2020, the date for completion of the delivery of vehicles or the period within which the delivery was expected to be done was four weeks from the date of issue of the purchase order,” reads the audit report in part.

“Audit noted that on June 3, 2021, the Ministry had not yet taken delivery of a total of 24 out of 29 vehicles paid for to Solution Motors (7) and Motor City (17) despite that the dates for completion of delivery of vehicles agreed in the contract of sale with both suppliers lapsed on October 23, 2020.”

The Auditor-General raised fears that the purchased vehicles may be concealed if delivery takes too long.

The issue of vehicles is also haunting the ministry of National Housing which bought nine new vehicles but received only six by the time of the audit, raising fears that some government officials may be colluding with suppliers to siphon money from state coffers.

Chiri also found that there was a price variation between what was paid by the government and the contract value, which was in contravention of the General Conditions of Contract 29.1 of the Contact of Sale signed between the ministry of Information and four vehicle suppliers in 2020.

The contract states that any variation of the contract that may be as a result of changes in statutory requirements, macro-economic environment or a shift in government policies should be agreed to by both parties through an addendum to the contract. This was not done.

In case the addendum is added, the agreement states that the price adjustment would only be allowed after 60 days “and the increase shall not exceed 20%.”

“I noted that the Ministry paid an amount of ZW28 334 774 (149%) above the contract value of ZW$19 044 519 for the supply of 12 vehicles. The Ministry paid a further amount of ZW$26 047 176 (82%) above the contract value of ZW$31 573 531 for the supply of other 17 vehicles,” observed Chiri.

“Both payments were made on September 25, 2020 after the lapse of 60 days. There was no evidence availed to audit in the form of an addendum to the contract with details justifying the increase in excess of the 20% allowed in the contract.”

Chiri said there was a risk of wasteful expenditure or fraud being committed.

She recommended that the excess payment be recovered and said the ministry should pay as per the contractual agreements to ensure effective use of public funds.

It also emerged that the ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture also bought 14 vehicles valued at $617 863 in 2017 from Canon Motors but two Nissan NP 300 single cab motor vehicles are yet to be delivered. No explanation was given.

In 2020, the ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs also bought 14 vehicles for $17 140 759, but three of those were yet to be delivered.

“I was not furnished with explanations as to why the vehicles remained undelivered and there was no evidence of follow-up with the supplier on the outstanding vehicles,” Chiri said.

The Auditor-General also noted that the Chiefs Council has failed to address the contentious issue raised in the previous audit in which vehicles were paid at a hugely inflated price.

“The issue of four vehicles bought at a cost of US$499 999 instead of US$202 000 had not been addressed,” the audit reads.

Vehicles bought for the Industrial Training and Trade Testing Fund 2018 under the ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education remain unaccounted for, with one, a Toyota Landcruiser, bought in 2015 for $100 449, vanishing.

A Toyota Hilux 310 D4D acquired in 2016 was allocated to a senior official who took it to the Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund and it is yet to be returned.

The vehicle saga has confirmed suspicions of gross corruption, theft and lack of transparency in government departments as it also emerged that besides vehicles, many public assets have not been accounted for.-Newshawks

Mwonzora Defectors Confuse Chamisa

By- MDC-T defectors are said to have divided the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) top leadership which feels uncomfortable with party leader Nelson Chamisa extending an olive branch to his rivals in opposition circles.

Chamisa’s CCC announced its intentions to win big in the 2023 elections after grabbing 19 of the 28 contested seats in the just-ended by-elections.

MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora, who claimed all the MDC symbols resulting in Chamisa rebranding to the CCC two months ago, did not win a single seat in the March 26 by-elections.
Insiders told NewsDay Weekender that the question of whether defectors from Mwonzora’ camp could be accepted or rejected had divided opinion in the top echelons of the party.
Mwonzora has been facing rebellion after the electoral defeat, with other party members, including his former close ally Fungai Chiposi, defecting to the CCC.
However, a move by Chiposi and other former MDC-T members, including former vice-president Thokozani Khupe and Abednico Bhebhe (ex-organising secretary), has unsettled some high-ranking CCC executives ahead of the party’s inaugural congress.
Bhebhe has already joined CCC.
CCC interim vice-president Welshmam Ncube is reportedly pushing for unconditional admission of Khupe into the party.
But CCC interim national chairperson Thabitha Khumalo has declared that she would not allow for Khupe’s admission to the CCC, describing her as divisive.
Other high-ranking members from Mwonzora’s MDC Alliance are reportedly set to defect to CCC after suffering heavy defeats in the March 26 by-elections.
In reaction to Chiposi’s announcement, CCC youth leader Cecilia Chimbiri also expressed disapproval and tweeted: “One who said we faked an abduction, one who rewrote my ordeal together with @JoanaMamombe @MarovaNetsai. One who added salt to injury? It’s personal for me because I still have wounds on top of that, being persecuted. I’m supposed to smile and just welcome because …”
In an interview, CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere told NewsDay Weekender that the opposition did not discriminate against anyone regardless of their political background.
“We focus on values, action and policies, not personalities. Chamisa said in his 2022 Agenda address that this is a year of action for change,” she said.
“The guiding value is that we put the citizens first and they are at the centre of all decision-making. The only qualification to join is that one is a citizen. The citizens will choose their leaders at the appropriate time.”
Mahere added: “The movement is currently focused on important next steps after we managed to successfully trounce Zanu PF and MDC in the by-elections. This was despite the odds and the process revealed that Zec [Zimbabwe Electoral Commission] is not fit for purpose.
“We are working on holding them to account through litigation and political pressure. We are focused on building the machine to ensure we win six million votes in the presidential election, a two-thirds majority in Parliament and clean sweeps in local authorities.”
Party supporters expressed mixed feelings over the defectors, with some warning the party leaders to guard against possible infiltration.
Khupe pledged her support to Chamisa’s CCC just before the by-elections, which triggered outrage among CCC supporters.
Yesterday, Khupe through her spokesperson Ntando Ndlovu said she intended to join the CCC as an individual not as party leader.
“The former Deputy Prime Minister is of the view that to defeat an authoritarian government like Zanu PF, the opposition political parties must unite and form a formidable force against Zanu PF,” Ndlovu said.
“As it currently stands, the only capable alternative to Zanu PF is the CCC party and, therefore, she believes that opposition political players must coalesce under CCC and rally behind Chamisa. Alliances have caused problems before. People must join as opposed to forming alliances.” Newsday

MDC-T Top Officials Desert Mwonzora

Mnangagwa To Hand-Over Power- Madhuku

By- President Emmerson Mnangagwa is more likely to relinquish power compared to former President Mugabe if defeated in an election, NCA leader Professor Lovemore Madhuku has said.

Madhuku said this when he launched his 2023 election campaign at Matambudze Business Centre, in his home district in Chipinge on Saturday.

Madhuku argued that because Mnangagwa knew life both in and outside the presidency, it made him more likely to accept defeat in an election than Mugabe who only knew life as a President since returning from Mozambique in 1980.

“The late President was never for a minute led by another person since his return from Mozambique. For him, it was inconceivable that he could be ruled. However, the current president has had a president rule him for 37 years. He knows life as a president and life under somebody else.
“Therefore, we don’t expect him to refuse to be defeated,” argued Prof Madhuku.

He told scores of supporters that the NCA was going to contest council, Parliamentary seats and the Presidency in 2023 and said that there was no opposition that has the capacity to run the country alone.

Chipangayi in Middle Sabi is part of the area where Madhuku gave Mukonyowere villagers free legal service when they faced eviction from their land at the hands of greedy Government officials. Madhuku appears to enjoy immense support in the area because if the empathy he showed.
“We are all agreed that ZANU PF has failed to give basics to the majority of the people in Zimbabwe over the past 42 years. Now, as NCA, we present ourselves to you to vote for us in the 2023 elections. We will have men and women up for council, national and presidential elections in each area of Zimbabwe,” he said.
Madhuku told the gathering not to be coerced into attending meetings of political parties.
“We are throwing our hat in the ring for 2023. Our message is clear on our strategy and programmes. We are ready to win the next elections,” he said.
Madhuku took the opportunity to set up local party structures after the meeting.
Fadzai Hama was elected the chairperson of the ward. Madhuku was accompanied Vrande Jambaya who is a national executive member of the NCA.

SA Government Accuses Zimbas Of Killing South Africans

By- South Africa’s Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi and Police Minister Bheki Cele have accused Zimbabweans of killing South Africans.

The two ministers said this Friday while answering questions from journalists on the sidelines of a public address by the two in Diepsloot, Johannesburg.

This followed the death of Elvis Nyathi, a Zimbabwean national who was brutally murdered by a vigilante group in that area on Wednesday.

Motsoaledi and a visibly angry Cele were in Diepsloot where they held an hours-long meeting with community leaders before addressing residents over the high crime rate in the area.

The two ministers said that South Africa is not targetting foreign nationals but all criminals regardless of their nationalities.

Dudula Leader Mocks Murdered Zimbabwean

By- Operation Dudula leader Nhlanhla “Lux” Dlamini, says he doesn’t regret the brutal murder of a Zimbabwean national by vigilantes in Diepsloot on Wednesday.

Posting on Twitter this Friday, Lux, whose real name is Ntlantla Mohlauhi blamed South African media and the country’s government for giving more attention to the murder of the Zimbabwean national than seven South Africans allegedly murdered by Zimbabweans. Lux said:

[I] can’t cry for this [one] [Zimbabwean] guy [because] my tears ran out crying for the [seven] South Africans that were killed by Zimbabweans.
It’s disgusting how this [one] death is enjoying more media, political attention [and] sympathy over the [seven] SA deaths.
May they ALL [the South Africaans and Zimbabweans] rest in PEACE!
This comes after a Zimbabwean domestic worker, Elvis Nyathi (43), was assaulted and then set alight by a mob in Diepsloot, a slum area in northern Johannesburg, on Wednesday night.

Lux and his movement accuse foreign nationals of “stealing our jobs”, selling illicit drugs and committing other crimes in the country.
He joined a protest by residents of Diepsloot earlier on Wednesday. Speaking at the demonstrations, he said:
I am not here as Operation Dudula, I am here because I am a South African. We are here to support the community. I have relatives living here and they deserve to be safe in this area.

Nudes WhatsApp Pix Teacher Acquitted

By- The Kumalo Primary School headmistress who was facing charges of posting pornographic material on WhatsApp has been acquitted.

Stella Mhlanga was charged for contravening Section 26 of the Censorship and Entertainment Control Act Chapter 10:04 (Possession of prohibited articles).

Allegations were that she accidentally shared a revealing picture of her private parts on her WhatsApp status.

In her defence outline, Mhlanga through her lawyer Byron Sengweni of Sengweni Legal Practice argued that she was never in possession of the alleged pornographic content.

She said she received the phone from her sister Sibusisiwe Moyo who is based in South Africa.

Mhlanga further stated that before her sister handed over the phone to her, she cleared the phone memory and when she received the phone there was absolutely nothing in it.

In acquitting her, Bulawayo magistrate Marygold Ndlovu ruled that the State failed to establish essential elements of the charges levelled against Mhlanga. The magistrate ruled:

In the court’s view, the fact that the images were only recovered through forensic software makes the accused person’s defence that everything was cleared at the time she received the cellphone reasonably possibly true.

It is equally possible that these images had been deleted prior and were not visible in the gallery with a naked eye.

Further, the evidence led on behalf of the State did not prove whether these are the same images posted to the accused person’s WhatsApp status.

Had the State led evidence to prove that these were the same images posted on the accused person’s WhatsApp status the court could have been persuaded that the accused had been in possession of the images at that time and had deleted them to conceal evidence.

In case the court finds no reason to dismiss the accused’s defence as not reasonably possibly true.

In the premises, the State has failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt and the accused person is accordingly found not guilty and acquitted.

Prosecutors had alleged that on 2 August 2021, the Provincial Victim Friendly Unit received a tip-off to the effect that Mhlanga had posted pornographic material on her WhatsApp status.

On realising her error, Mhlanga allegedly immediately removed the picture but some of her contacts including teachers and parents with children at her school had saved it and forwarded it to their friends.

Mhlanga was eventually arrested following investigations by the police.

Investigators also seized her cell phone Samsung N910F Galaxy Note taken to the police station.

The cellphone was then referred to CID National Cyber Forensics Laboratory, Bulawayo for examination.

During the forensic examinations, four pornographic images were allegedly retrieved from Mhlanga’s phone.

Meet And Find A Way Forward, ED, Ramaphosa Told

By A Correspondent| Ideas Party of Democracy (IDP) leader Herbert Chamuka has urged President Emmerson Mnangagwa to urgently meet his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa to find a solution to xenophobic attacks that recently claimed the life of a Zimbabwean Elvis Nyathi who was set ablaze in Diepsloot.

Speaking from his base in South Africa, Chamuka said a meeting between Mnangagwa and Ramaphosa would help in easing tension that has resulted in foreign nationals being targeted for attack by angry South Africans.

“I am calling for an emergency meeting between Cyril Ramaphosa and Emmerson Mnangagwa to agree on a mutual plan on how to co-exist as neighboring countries”Countries such as Botswana, Mozambique, Swaziland, Namibia, South Africa, Malawi are neighbors who should be working together in times of war and drought among other regional problems,” said Chamuka.

“But its showing as if South Africa wants to be independent which doesn’t want to contribute ideas towards solving problems in other Southern African countries,” added Chamuka.

He blasted South Africa for being insincere on Nyathi’s death saying it’s statements on the issue shows lack of genuine care for the safety of foreigners living and working in their country.

“South African government is not sincere, its behaving like a crocodile which mourns its prey, Cyril Ramaphosa as a leader of South Africa is the main problem because he seems to be supporting those perpetrating xenophia,” added Chamuka.

He said the dudula leader who is leading onslaught against foreigners, is a rebel in the league of the late Islamic rebel leader Osama Bin Laden.

Zanu PF Statement On Killing Of Zim Man Irresponsible: South Africa Police Minister

By- South African cabinet ministers have condemned a statement issued by ZANU PF’s South Africa District criticising the neighbouring country’s government for alleged failure to combat the killing of foreign nationals.
Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi and Police Minister Bheki Cele described the statement as irresponsible.

ZANU PF-SA’s statement came after Elvis Nyathi, a Zimbabwean national was brutally murdered by a vigilante group in Diepsloot, Johannesburg, on Wednesday night.

While ZANU PF-SA said it respects the South African security services and other government departments, it questioned how such a crime could be committed “unchecked”. It said:
It is therefore worrisome that a group of people can take the law into their hands and harass foreign nationals from African countries with impunity.
How vigilante groups in a country that has a whole functional police service and home affairs department, carry out unsanctioned activities unchecked resulting in loss of property and lives is unfortunate.

Motsoaledi and a visibly angry Cele were in Diepsloot on Friday where they held an hours-long meeting with community leaders before addressing residents over the high crime rate in the area.
The two ministers said that South Africa is not targetting foreign nationals but all criminals regardless of their nationalities.

Chamisa Councillors Sworn In, Vows To Stop July Moyo, Auxillia Land Deals

Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) councillors say they will immediately swing into action and stop all dubious deals linked to First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa and some scandalous agreements involving Local Government minister July Moyo.

But their threats may come to naught if Moyo strikes first by suspending councillors who are facing criminal abuse of office charges as threatened last week by government officials who spoke to The NewsHawks as the minister is said to be stopping at nothing to block all attempts to threaten his multi-million ventures endorsed by the MDC-T councillors.

This also came as CCC councillors were this Friday expected to elect a new acting mayor to take over from MDC-T’s Stewart Mutizwa who has been acting in the absence of suspended Herbert Gomba and Jacob Mafume.

Full council has not convened in the recent past after failing to constitute a quorum, meaning most of the “dubious” deals were yet to be endorsed.

Councillors told The NewsHawks that their immediate task will be to look into the deals that have raised eyebrows, including the US$400 million Pomona Waste Management agreement.

The continuous use of resources to fund Auxillia’s programmes will also be reconsidered.

“We will look into all deals they entered into and we know most of them are dubious. We can’t say more now before we settle and our way of settling is the motion we moved to elect a new mayor on Friday,” one of the councillors said.

Twenty-two out of the 23 CCC councillors were sworn in on Thursday with Pedzai Sakupwanya, a gold dealer and Zanu-PF official, was also sworn in.

Gomba was the only recently elected CCC councillor who was not sworn in and will take the oath at a given time.In the absence of Chamisa’s councillors who were at the time recalled, councillors loyal to MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora endorsed a resolution of the education, health and housing committee of 29 July 2021 that paved the way for partnerships between the First Lady and council in her project that include (i) Nhanga/Gota/Ixhiba and Nharirire Yemusha.

Council then approved, albeit in retrospect, the participation of council officials and further authorised participation in the forthcoming programmes being organised by the office of the First Lady in what observers said was to get favours from the Zanu-PF government via PresidentEmmerson Mnangagwa’s wife.

It also emerged that urban local authorities across the country were recently forced to contribute $32 million towards the construction of the first lady’s orphanage in Chiredzi.

The new Chambuta Children’s Home was constructed through her Angels of Hope Foundation, with councils contributing.

On the multi-million Pomona deal that council signed under Moyo’s close watch, Chamisa’s councillors vowed to scrutinise the deal with a view to blocking it as it was arrived at without following tender processes.

The deal was entered into between council and a German company, Geogenix BV, linked to a close ally of the first family, Delish Nguwaya, who is said to be its local representative, and is set generate up to 22 megawatts of electricity under the deal frowned upon by some councillors.

Unsure who would be in charge of Town House post the 26 March by-elections, council was forced to enter into a an agreement with a clause not to change anything in the event of political changes and it remains to be seen how Chamisa’s councillors will stop the deal.

Titled “Concession agreement to design, build and operate the Harare Pomona waste management facility and waste energy power plant”, the deal signed in the presence of Moyo and Nguwaya has come under scrutiny amid fears the residents will be burdened with paying back the money that Mnangagwa loyalists are looking to benefit from.

There was drama during the swearing-in ceremony, snubbed by Mwonzora councillors, when Mutizwa was booed by CCC supporters who accused him of occupying the chair illegally.

Mutizwa remained calm despite the hostilities and left immediately after the swearing-in without mingling with his CCC counterparts.

Sakupwanya, a strong Mnangagwa ally who won a council seat he described as historic in the last polls, was also not spared the booing by CCC supporters who swarmed Town House for the event.

Councillor Kudzai Kadzombe is set to take over as acting mayor after the elections, but is facing competition from Enock Mupamaonde.

Black South Africans Seek Asylum In Zimbabwe | RETROSPECT

Under Apartheid, South African black people border jumped and flocked to Zimbabwe in their numbers as social, economic and political refugees running away from the evil Apartheid regime. They did not have any legal papers on or with them, whatsoever!!! Not even a Dome Pass! But we did not treat them as illegal, undocumented, law breaking immigrants!

As fellow black African brothers and sisters, we understood their situation, took them in, and gave them legal documents which did not only allow them to stay indefinitely in our country, but also allowed them to move to other countries. Thabo Mbeki and his Brother Moletsi are some of them! But today, what are our South African black brothers doing to similar social, economic and political refugees from Zimbabwe? They are killing them for allegedly being illegal and undocumented immigrants!!! In the name of our Good Lord God, the Almigthy, the Omnipotent, Ominipresent and the Omniscient, I pray, Amen! – Dr Cleopas Chitapa

Ndiraya Keen To Punish Former Paymasters

Dynamos coach Tonderai Ndiraya believes they are up for a big test when they face Ngezi Platinum Stars in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League tomorrow.

The two sides meet at the Baobab Stadium, where DeMbare have not won since 2016 and Ndiraya reckons the recent appointment of former Warriors coach Benjani Mwaruwari as Madamburo coach, will make their mission to break that jinx more difficult.

“It’s a difficult one in the sense that they have a new coach whom I respect. We all know what happens when a new coach is appointed, the players tend to have more energy, fighting for positions so that is going to make our life more difficult. But we are prepared for all those things,” he told the media after the team’s training yesterday.

Despite that, Ndiraya insists his charges are gunning for maximum points, and getting what will be their sixth consecutive win.

“We are looking to break that jinx (not winning at the Baobab since 2016) on Saturday if we put up a solid performance. So a solid performance is what we are looking for and hope to finally come out with a very good result,” he said.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Khupe: I’m Joining CCC As An Ordinary Member

The MDC Alliance former trouble maker, Thokozani Khupe, has announced that she is joining the CCC party as an ordinary member, not a leader as earlier assumed.

Her statement through her spokesperson, came at a time when she was being accused or trying to penetrate Nelson Chamisa’s structures again as done in 2020 when she nearly shut the latter’s career and shattered the hopes of 14 million Zimbabweans who support him.

Her statement also comes at a time the CCC party was debating to or not to admit former Mwonzora spokesman Fungai Chiposi.

Her spokesperson Ntando Ndlovu said she intends to join the CCC as an individual not party leader.

Ndlovu said: “The former Deputy Prime Minister is of the view that to defeat an authoritarian government like Zanu PF, the opposition political parties must unite and form a formidable force against Zanu PF,” he told the daily Newsday.

He continued saying:

“As it currently stands, the only capable alternative to Zanu PF is the CCC party and, therefore, she believes that opposition political players must coalesce under CCC and rally behind Chamisa. Alliances have caused problems before. People must join as opposed to forming alliances.”

President Chamisa Party Sues ZEC

Tinashe Sambiri|Citizens’ Coalition For Change has taken the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission( ZEC) to court for rigging elections.

CCC Mutasa Central (15) has a raised a litany of irregularities in court papers.

See statement below:

Citizens Coalition For Change Mutasa Central Ward 15 takes ZEC to court over vote rigging.

07 April 2022

Citizens Coalition For Change (CCC) Namibia would like to register its continuous solidarity with Mutasa Central Ward 15 which suffered from electoral malpractices on the 26th March by-elections.

The district supports the ward’s resolution to take ZEC to the Electoral Court contesting a festival of irregularities before, during and after the poll. It is now imperative to give all the moral, material and financial assistance to our foot soldiers who are enduring unprecedented torture, inhuman treatment and intimidation of voters in the motherland.

We have noted with fury that Zanu PF bases were dotted around 8 polling stations in Mutasa Central Ward 15. These bases were used to intimidate voters coercing them into voting the clueless ZanuPF.

What perturbs yellow revolutionaries in Namibia is that one polling station alone registered 210 assisted voters, a centre that under sane circumstances recorded 8-10 assisted voters. The huge discrepancies in the number of assisted voters between 2018 and 2022 elections are quite hypnotising and transfixing.

In 2018, Mutasa Central Ward 15 exhibited only 8-10 assisted voters but all of a sudden the ward witnessed astronomical numbers amounting to 349 voters out of 1461.

Remember that Zimbabwe is undoubtedly one of the most literate countries in Africa and the world with approximately over 90% literacy rate. It boggles the mind to witness people being compelled to be illiterate so that ZanuPF thugs could vote for them.

Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia urges Mutasa Central Ward 15 to exhaust all remedies to defeat rigging of the people’s voice.

In addition to that, our people were frogmarched to ZanuPF meetings organised by traditional leaders who are being abused by the satanic Harare regime. We demand the neutrality of traditional leaders and the independence of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to avoid contested election results.

The assisted voter phenomenon became the game changer in Mutasa Central Ward 15 hence the need to approach the courts for justice. Defending the vote should start now before 2023! It is foolhardy to believe that with a literacy rate of about 96%, we have 10% voter disability! We demand free, fair and credible elections in Zimbabwe.

We applaud Mutasa Central Ward 15 for embracing our agenda 2022 which is quite clear on the need to have citizens’ action for change. The people’s vote needs protection from the captured state institutions. According to our yellow leadership in the ward, the presiding officers were informed about these irregularities but nothing was done to address that. Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia is cobra-headed after giving all the moral , material and financial assistance to defend the vote. The district supports the initiative to take these rigging shenanigans head on. There is need to do everything peaceful in our means to defend the votes.

Furthermore, Mutasa Central Ward 15 is not the only one that suffered from this electoral fraud. Before the election, we saw Mboneni Ncube butchered in Kwekwe and dozens injured. The district witnessed incessant banning of our rallies in Gokwe, Marondera and Masvingo which is rigging in its own right. Our polling agents were being harassed and beaten by the satanic ZanuPF thugs on the election day in various parts of the country such as Epworth, KweKwe, Mwenezi, Gokwe, Chivi only to mention but a few.

In Makoni North, specifically Maruma Primary School Ward 4, our agent refused to sign the V11 forms because the elections were marred by rigging and vote buying. ZanuPF members including MP James Munetsi were gathered at 320 metres from the polling station coercing and intimidating yellow revolutionaries compelling them to pretend to be illiterate. This muzzling of the people’s right to vote must be resisted with equal measure. Let’s support Mutasa Central Ward 15 in its effort to promote an even political field which is free from voter manipulation by the sadist regime.

It’s very sad that the outcome of the poll did not reflect the will of the people. Voters were threatened, intimidated and coerced into surrendering their fundamental basic human right to elect candidates of their choice. We should pursue court petitions all over the disputed results across the breadths and lengths of the motherland. Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia demands the independence of the judiciary.

Hopewell Responds To Defamation: Masarira Just Needs Water, Towel, Soap

By Farai D Hove | Controversial political leader, Linda Masarira received a digital slap from investigative journalist Hopewell Chin’ono yesterday when she had insulted him saying he is a mediocre.

Linda Masarira

Masarira alleged that Chin’ono has called for sanctions during his trip to Switzerland. Chin’ono has been attending the Geneva Summit at the UN Watch NGO, where he told of his life story, career, and the troubles of day to day Zimbabwean life.

A day after he had delivered two speeches, Chin’ono was met with an allegation that he has called for sanctions. Masarira said Chin’ono is a person who hates himself.

Her tweet was responded to with a slap, with the journo saying, she needs soap, a towel, and water.

Below was the tweet interaction:

Self hate created the Hopewell we have seen on these streets & in Geneva. No one other than a native Zimbabwean can fix whatever this country will be going through. Calling for further sanctions on Zimbabwe is the highest level of mediocrity considering the high levels of poverty

JUSTICE FOR ELVIS NYATHI

The Citizens’ Coalition for Change strongly condemns the murder of Elvis Nyathi who was stoned and burnt to death in Diepsloot, Johannesburg earlier today. We extend our sincere condolences to Mrs. Nyathi and the entire family of Elvis Nyathi who were tragically robbed of a husband, father, friend and loved one.

Zimbabweans woke up to horrific images of a pile of ashes, ashes that were the remains of our fellow citizen, killed for no reason. His murder was avoidable, horrific and Nyathi was a Zimbabwean citizen who was a victim of the forced migration crisis caused by the bad governance of Zanu PF.

Having settled in South Africa to seek a better life, he has become the tragic victim of the indiscriminate door-to-door raids by a vigilante group that targets African foreign nationals outside the confines of the law and without due process. There is no room for a barbaric murder of this nature in a constitutional democracy.

The murder of Nyathi is a regrettable affront to ubuntu and a direct violation of Article 5 of the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights which binds the whole continent and provides that every individual has the right to the respect of the dignity inherent in a human being and to the recognition of his legal status. All forms of degradation of man including cruel, inhuman or degrading punishment and treatment are prohibited.

We call for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators to ensure that justice is done.

We further call for the de-escalation of the anti-immigrant rhetoric by public figures and shadowy groups who are fomenting the abuse, extortion, and violence against African nationals.

The death of Elvis Nyathi is a stark reminder that Zanu PF has failed the citizens of Zimbabwe. Citizens like Elvis Nyathi have been forced out of Zimbabwe because of man-made poverty, injustice and corruption.

No Zimbabwean should lose their life because they have been driven out of the country by failed leadership. The regime in Harare has failed in its obligation to serve and protect citizens at home and abroad.

Under a CCC Government, the root causes of the forced migration crisis will be addressed as a priority, the citizens will be returned to the centre of all decision-making and the dignity of Zimbabwean people will be restored.

Senior Cleric Defends President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri|Bishop Ancelimo Magaya of Zimbabwe Divine Destiny has said Zimbabwe needs a God-fearing and humble character who can lead the nation to prosperity.

Bishop Magaya described President Nelson Chamisa as a principled man following the Citizens’ Coalition For Change leader’s strong Christian views.

Last week President Chamisa wrote on his official Facebook page:

“WE CONSULT OUR GOD…

When men tell you to consult the spirits of the dead and the spiritists who whisper and mutter, shouldn’t a people consult their God instead?

Why consult the dead on behalf of the living? Isaiah 8:19-20 Happy Sabbath beloved! #Godisinit.”

Below is Bishop Magaya’s statement:
Advocate Nelson Chamisa is spot on!

The recent bold utterance by CCC leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa regarding our allegiance to the only one God is the first-ever to be coming from a political leader.

The utterance wherein he referred to the infallible and inerrant word of God which is the final law in all matters of faith, conduct and doctrine are significant at more than one level.
First, given that this is not ordinarily a populist statement, Chamisa demonstrates with clarity his deep sense of priority on matters of faith and politics.

If there are any who would feel offended by his reference to Isaiah 8 vs19, ′a portion of scripture from which I have been preaching since my high school days to current) to the extent that they would withdraw their vote in 2023, then I am certain that Chamisa would not mind losing votes for the sake of his unambiguous Christian stance.

Second, from my reading of his twit, it is clear that Chamisa has quoted that which is in the bible and has not condemned to immediate death those that consult the dead, neither has he suggested that he does not embrace them as equal citizens. He has just quoted scriptures.

Any conclusion that his utterance is divisive is driven by hatred of scriptures, hatred of Chamisa, and more than an excessive appeasement mindset. The remarks that I have heard to have come from some church leaders scandalizing Chamisa because of his love for scripture is ironically more descriptive of themselves than the Chamisa they are making a parody of, as they play to the gallery of those on whose behalf they display their anger.

It is tragic to speak it, yet true to say that these church leaders view Chamisa as a politician who should leave the matters of Christian faith to the church whilst they have not only remained mum when politicians within the ruling ZANU PF have lynched with impunity and made statements insinuating violence, but have also made statements regarding how they think the church should conduct itself: a matter that they know nothing about. THIS IS SAD.

It is also important to note that quoting scriptures and urging the citizens to adhere to the same is not a business that is restricted to the ordained Pastors. Chamisa has the right like any other believer whether Pastor or not to quote from the word of GOD.

Third, the reference to scripture by Nelson Chamisa has been an acid test on the church’s principles. It is clear that s church leaders’ foundations on the Christian faith are pathologically faulty. it should be noted that our Christian faith is anchored on GOD’s historic activity of calling out an assembly from Egypt which activity is quintessentially the antecedent of GOD’s formation of the church. Subsequent to the said historic calling out of the Israeli assembly, GOD made a covenant with them which covenant entails, interalia, that:

  1. Isreal would walk perfectly before GOD
  2. Isreal will serve no foreign gods
  3. They would not consult the dead on behalf of the living.

These remain fundamental today

It is actually sweet to the ears and heartwarming when a politician, moreso an aspiring national leader makes a statement that is anchored on the Holy scriptures.

Let us all learn to rise beyond myopic partisan lines and learn to affirm the light as we condemn darkness. GOD SAVE ZIMBABWE

DeMbare, Ngezi Platinum Clash

CCC Condemns Murder Of Zimbabwean Man In SA

Tinashe Sambiri|Human rights defenders have condemned the brutal murder of Elvis Nyathi in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Citizens’ Coalition For Change has also denounced xenophobic attacks on Zimbabweans in South Africa.

CCC deputy spokesperson Gift Ostallos Gift Ostallos Siziba wrote on Facebook:
“We condemn the brutal murder of Elvis Nyathi in South Africa.

It must never be tolerated in our African continent that a brother finds pleasure in the murder of the other.

We are one people, we are one nation Africa.

As Zimbabweans we must stand together as one and resolve the domestics challenges that has led to the ill-treatment, harassment and murder of our people in South Africa.”

“We face danger and home and danger abroad. We must fix our country, show love always and stand shoulder to shoulder to make the world a better place.”

Human rights defender
Liam Kanhenga said:
“The death of Elvis Nyathi is a sign of how institutionalized violence and self hate among black people are destroying our societies .

Then looking into operation Dudula

The act of vigilante justice is itself criminal and wrong. However it reflects on how the existing criminal justice system in South Africa and the general governance machinery are failing the local people while desperate foreigners take the hits .

Operation Dudula is an act of terror covered in the excuse of an immigration crisis. The SADC and AU shld start acting against institutionalized and sytemized violence against black bodies on the continent .”

Brutal Murder Of Zimbabwean Man In SA Unacceptable

South Africa’s International Relations Minister, Naledi Pandor, said that her government will not condone violence against foreign nationals.

Pandor made the remarks while speaking on SABC after a 43-year-old Zimbabwean man, Mhbodazwe Elvis Nyathi was stoned and set alight in a mob attack in Diepsloot north-west of Johannesburg overnight.

The attack followed a day of protests as residents of Diepsloot embarked on a protest, barricading roads with burning tyres, over escalating crime.

At least eight people were shot dead and 14 others wounded in Diepsloot over the past few days resulting in the protests. Said Pandor:

We have to document everybody who is in the country. I must say I admire the people of South Africa because we had never separated communities of Africans from elsewhere living in a refugee camp.

We have always allowed those who come into our country to live within the community.

So, I do think as a government you have to listen to the people but you can not tolerate violence against any person.

Meanwhile, community leaders in Diepsloot have sent their condolences to the family of Nyathi.

Community leader Sicelo Shezi described the murder as pure vigilantism and urged the community not to take the law into their own hands.

A man who was killed in Diepsloot has been identified as Elvis Nyathi. No arrests have been made in connection with his killing. Ayanda Nyathi speaks to the deceased man’s partner.

Nyabinde, Paralysed, Loses EyeSight

By-Mutare-based jazz musician, Bob Nyabinde, is now paralysed and visually impaired due to diabetes.

ln an exclusive interview with The Manica Post in Mutare last weekend, Nyabinde said it was sometime in 2018 when he started feeling dizzy while performing at a private function at Leopard Rock Hotel in Vumba after being invited by Tsitsi Mutasa.

Nyabinde said he was unable to continue with his performance, and the following day, he went to see his doctor who said his sugar levels were abnormally high.

The musician said he was also having problems with his eyesight and proceeded to a Harare-based optician.

He was told that his diabetes had destroyed 20 per cent of his vision. Added Nyabinde:

I learnt about my condition that year, 2018 to be precise. Since then my condition has been deteriorating.

I suffered a stroke at the beginning of 2019 and I completely lost my sight. My hand and leg also got paralysed.

Things have never been the same for me but I find hope in my friends, family, relatives, show promoters and Government through the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Arts and Recreation.

All these people have been extremely supportive in my journey.

Nyabinde, who now uses a walking stick, said he has not quit music entirely. He said:

I can’t leave music. Some promoters usually call me for private functions and I sometimes attend.

Sometimes I won’t perform, but will simply attend the event and play a cameo role. But just seeing my face makes my fans happy.

I recently had an excellent event organised by the prominent promoter, Josh Hozheri, where artistes such as Victor Kunonga, Mwenje Matope, Selma, Chipaz, Josh and Prudence Katomeni, among many others, performed. I felt humbled.

Nyabinde is a trained teacher having obtained his teaching diploma at Mutare Teachers’ College.

He became a headmaster at several schools before resigning and venturing into music full time in 2007.

His popular songs include “Pane Nyaya”, “Chabuda Hapana”, “Terera”, and “Ndiratidze Mumwe Chete”.

SA Ministers Rubbish Zanu PF’s Zim Murdered Man Statement

Operation Dudula Leader Declares War On Zimbabwean Nationals

Ramaphosa, Mnangagwa Must Meet And Address Problems Causing Xenophobia

Chamisa Mourns Zimbabwean Stoned To Death In South Africa

By- The leader of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), Nelson Chamisa has mourned the condemned murder of a Zimbabwean, Elvis Nyathi, in South Africa.

In a statement prepared by the party spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere, Nyathi’s death is a reminder of how the governing Zanu-PF has failed the citizens.
Below is the full statement:
7 April 2022

Mnangagwa Gold Front Man Sworn In

By- Twenty three Harare councillors, including President Emmerson Mnangagwa’ Gold dealer, Scott Sakupwanya, have taken the oath of office.

The swearing-in of the councillors took place yesterday at Town House.

After the swearing-in ceremony, Citizens Coalition for Change’s Denford Ngadziore moved a motion to hold mayoral elections within 24 hours to replace recalled Jacob Mafume.

“Since Mafume’s recall, there was no properly constituted full council meeting to elect the mayor. Under those circumstances, it’s the duty of the full council to do that. That’s why we have called for an urgent special council meeting. There are urgent issues that need the attention of the mayor,” he said.
The motion was seconded by Kudzai Kadzombe.

Mafume has filed a High Court application challenging his recall.

Kaitano Tembo Speaks On McCarthy Move To SuperSport United

SuperSport United coach Kaitano Tembo has responded to media reports claiming that Benni McCarthy is wanted by the club.

The former Dynamos defender’s future at the Pretoria-based club appears to be uncertain, with South African publication Far Post claiming yesterday that the Stanley Matthews-led hierarchy is considering roping in McCarthy.

Tembo said he is not losing sleep over the issue, as it is just speculation which he has no control over.

“I’m not in control of that, all I have to do is to focus on the job at hand. That’s the only important thing to me,” Tembo said.

“What is being said out there has nothing to do with me, and [yes] anything can happen in football, so it’s normal, it happens.

“As long as I’m here, I will keep on giving my best. That’s all I can do,” he added.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Cleric Commends President Chamisa’s Unwavering Faith

Activists Threaten To Shut Down SA Investors In Zim

Zimbabwean activists under the banner of One Africa Movement have threatened to shut down all companies that are owned by South African investors in Zimbabwe over the gruesome murder of one Mbhodazwe Elvis Nyathi in the neighbouring country’s Diepsloot township.

Speaking to this reporter on Friday the  Zimbabwe Coordinator of One Africa Movement Zibanayi Sibanda said his organization was holding a meeting on Friday to determine a program of action that will make sure the South African government and investors feels the pinch of allowing lawlessness and promoting afrophobic vigilantism to abound.

“One Africa Movement will convene a special council meeting on Friday 8 April 2022 to discuss the way forward in light of this barbaric act and these Donald Trump like characters who want to score cheap political points through hurting others and propagating hate in the name of patriotism and putting South Africa first.” Sibanda said.

He added that Afrophobia was ignited by power hungry politicians who wanted to ride on anti-foreigner sentiment to win the 2024 elections.

“None of us made a conscious decision to be born in our countries of birth and none of us made a decision to be African. We all deal with the hand we have been dealt in the best way possible.  Afrophobia is a cancer that has been brought back to life by Operation Dudula and some power hungry characters like Herman Mashaba who spread hate as if that will solve the economic challenges faced by individuals.

“The death of Elvis Nyathi is an unforgivable sin as nothing said or done will bring him back to life. His blood is on Nhlanhla Lux’s hands , Herman Mashaba, Gayton Mackenzie and everyone who spews Afrophobic hate all have a share in the blood and death of Elvis Nyathi.”

Recently, African National Congress Spokesperson Pule Mabe  said they supported the activities of the extremist xenophobic vigilante group Operation Dudula because it resonated with the generality of South Africans.

Sibanda said his movement had identified the following South African investment companies operating  in Zimbabwe which will be shut down until justice for Elvis Nyathi is achieved.

The Mnangagwa-legitimacy-challenger, Sybeth Musengezi has been summoned to the ZRP Law and Order division for interviews.

Musengezi has taken Mnangagwa to court saying his take over of the ZANU PF Presidency was illegal and therefore invalid, and just yesterday he was photographed meeting his lawyers over the case.

Goblins Unleash Reighn Of Terror In Nkayi

By A Correspondent- Randy goblins have unleashed a reign of terror in Nkayi’s Hojeni Village, with their insatiable sexual attacks forcing teachers at Hojeni Primary School to flee their dwellings amid claims by villagers that the creatures belonged to villagers that sought wealth through black magic.

The situation became so bad that Matabeleland North education authorities threatened to close the school if the community failed to exorcise the institution and the community of the troublesome creatures.

The now visible objects include snakes and some creatures called ondofa(goblins) in iSiNdebele which are reported to have been having sex with teachers forcing them to abandon their cottages.

A number of them had sought shelter from villagers as the creatures did not give them rest during the night.

School pupils are said to have been fainting at school which saw Nkayi district education officials calling a meeting in which they threatened to close the school if the community did not take action.

Councillor for the area Vinika Ncube confirmed the development and said the cleansing ceremony would be ongoing until the whole village was cleansed.

“We had a problem at Hojeni Primary School as teachers were complaining of being sexually harassed during the night by invisible things.

Some of them left the school while others were now sleeping at villagers’ homesteads. The education officials threatened to close the school so the community came together to find a solution. People contributed money to bring people who can help us and we found a Bishop Sweswe.

“We have seen snakes and other objects which you cannot believe exist. You should come here and see for yourselves what is happening. The people who owned these things have confessed without duress that it is their things and we hope once the whole village is cleansed we will have peace,” said the councillor.

A village head from the area Anderson Matikiti Sibanda said the situation had gone out of hand.

Some of the things wanted food from teachers while others abused them sexually. Since we brought Bishop Sweswe from Gwanda all villagers are being vetted and while others come clean others have been found with the things you saw circulating on social media platforms.

Other items recovered

Some of the villagers have run away to Bulawayo and other areas in fear of having their creatures exposed. We will escalate the issue to the headman and chief because everyone attended the meeting where a decision was taken to bring the bishop,” he said.

In one video which is circulating, the bishop and his team can be seen dealing with a black and white snake that has a “cobra” head.

After pouring what appears to be water several times while the “snake” lifts its head ready to strike, the bishop pushes its head down before subduing it.

While he does this, there is singing of a Zion Church song with just one word “Amen” which is repeated and transformed several times.

In another picture, the bishop is seen with what appears as a python snake rolled in his hand which he holds by his hand.

“One woman who had creatures taken from her house actually confessed that the creatures were seriously sexually abusing her day and night resulting in her developing sores in her private parts. She pleaded for help. Some of the snakes and these creatures were being kept in bedrooms under beds.

Before removing the creatures he would call us as village heads to see the creatures and we bolted from the houses in fear. Some of the things you can’t even describe,” said village head Matikiti Sibanda.

A villager, Mark Ndlovu, said the whole village was in support of what was happening as the situation was also affecting villagers.

“We have never seen this in the village. People are in disbelief seeing the creatures that are coming out of their neighbours’ homesteads. It’s sad the extent some people go to in search of a good life instead of working hard. We have one family which just became rich overnight with cars and cattle and we thought they were working in South Africa not knowing that it is the creatures which are bringing them money,” he said.-BMetro

Missing Filabusi High School Teacher Found Dead

Credence Ncube

By A Correspondent- A Filabusi High School teacher who went missing on 1 April this year was found dead on 7 April, with his body in an advanced state of decomposition.

The teacher, Creedence Ncube (41), was driving a Mazda Demio car which is still missing.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Matabeleland South Province, Inspector Loveness Mangena, confirmed the development. She said:

I can confirm that we recorded a suspected murder case where Creedence Ncube’s body was found in an advanced state of decomposition at Hayhill plot in Filabusi.

Ncube left his home on 1 April driving a Mazda Demio going to the business centre.

He didn’t return home and his family filed a missing person’s report at Filabusi Police Station on 3 April.

His remains were found on 7 April in an advanced state of decomposition while the vehicle he was using hasn’t been recovered.

Investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of his death but we suspect foul play.

We appeal to members of the public with information that could assist in the investigations and recovery of his car to contact the police.-statemedia

Elvis Nyathi Killing: Zim Community In SA Speaks

It is with deepest sadness that we have learnt of the brutal murder of an innocent Zimbabwean compatriot Elvis Nyathi by a mob who had been going door to door demanding documentation.

We have learnt that Elvis Nyathi tried to run away from this mob fearing for what might happen to him if he were found without documents.

The mob then chased after him and brutally beat him up and demanded R300 from his wife whom they also beat up.

At failing to produce this R300 and only managing to give them R50, she was told they would take him away and see what do with him, of which they callously murdered him by pouring petrol on him and burning him alive until his demise.

It is very sore on us that such barbaric acts by such obvious criminal elements is left to continue.

Such attacks on our people are evil and unwarranted.

It is even more shocking that we hear insensitive statements that our people deliberately do not want to be documented, when as the current state of document renewal stands, the extension of the ZEP documentation regime has been revoked and thousands of our people who have been forced by both economic and political circumstances which they hardly have control over suddenly face uncertainty about their futures.

It is also disingenuous to claim all undocumented migrants are criminals.

It’s very unfortunate that some of our nationals are not documented and as an organization at the forefront of documentation we can boldly say, we know our compatriots want to be documented!

As an organization which seeks to protect the interests of our fellow compatriots we call upon the South African government to act with haste to protect all the people under its borders and that law enforcement be the only enforcer of law.

This vigilantism has cost us a fellow brother who was a hard worker and not involved in any criminal activities.

We also call upon the South African community to have compassion and understanding that it’s not very easy to fix our country as some claim. It is not out of lack of trying. The inhuman treatment is very painful to us.

Lastly, we DEMAND that all those of our compatriots that are involved in any criminal activities which may be invoking the anger and hate we are receiving from our hosts must CEASE and DESIST from this and call on those of our compatriots who may be aware of such criminal activities to inform the Police and if they do not trust them to approach our crime fighting desk which works with Crime Policing Forums we established after our anti-crime summit we held in Hilbrow just before lock-down.

Auditor General Redflags Mines Ministry Accounts

By A Correspondent- The Auditor-General’s (AG) office has redflagged the ministry of Mines and Mining Development’s financial accounts citing a possible understatement of an amount disclosed as public financial assets.

According to the AG’s 2020 report, the Mines and Mining Development ministry failed to produce an accurate return on public financial assets, which might indicate misuse of funds.

The opening balance of ZW$630 656 405 (US$4,3 million) as of January 1, 2020, was different from the closing balance of ZW$104 386 597 (US$700 000) as of December 31, 2019.

“There was no explanation on why there was a variance of ZW$526 269 808 (US$3,6 million),” AG Mildred Chiri said in the financial year ended December 2020 report.

Chiri stated that the funds that were unaccounted for are public funds that should benefit the country.

In addition, the reconciliation of funds used in line with the Hwange Colliery investment was reported to be still pending at the time of the audit. According to the AG, the reconciliation of the Hwange Colliery is underway and the ministry had based its return on the information supplied by the coal miner with corrective measures to be taken. The report noted that the ministry had made progress in addressing the audit’s findings for the previous year (2019) in the collection of outstanding revenue as seen in the decreased numbers to ZW$166 457 861 (US$1,1 million) as at December 2020 from $257 927 409 (US$1,8 million) in 2019.

The ministry’s loan fund meant to promote the production of minerals was noted in the report to have been presented fairly with its financial performance and its cash flows for the year recorded in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Practice (GAAP).

The report further noted that the omission of some transactions in the Public Finance Management System (PFMS) was another overor understatement of expenditure resulting in misstatements in the financial statements. “The ministry should reconcile the differences and ensure that all expenditure is captured,” Chiri advised.

During the year under review, the Mining Industry Loan Fund had account receivables for plant and equipment hiring amounting to ZW$228 501 (US$1 600) although the loan for the plant expired as far back as 2012 to 2015.

The plant and equipment had not been collected from the debtors despite that the loan period had expired.

“Out of the total debt ZW$114 175 (US$800) was for debtors who had returned the plant and equipment, and ZW$114 326 (US$800) for the plant and equipment was still to be collected since the loan period had expired. There was no evidence that the fund management issued reminders and follow up letters to clients,” Chiri said.

The Auditor-General recommended that the ministry should use debt recovery strategies such as sending reminders to clients to get back plants from debtors, who are still in possession of the equipment.

The Mines and Mining Development ministry, Chiri added, should seek treasury authority to write-off some of the long-standing debts that have proved to be irrecoverable.-ZimIndependent

Cooking Oil Shortages Loading…..

Zimbabwe is facing fresh cooking oil shortages following a sharp increase in   edible oil prices on the international markets and foreign currency shortages leading to viability challenges for the sector, Business Times has learnt.

Despite the spike in edible oil on the international market the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) still gives oil expressers the same amount from 2020.

Some oil companies are now forced to source the forex from the parallel market, where premiums are higher, insiders said this week.

Consequently, the price of cooking oil has shot up to about ZWL$1,115 per 2 litres bottle from about ZWL$920 two weeks ago.

“We have silent cooking oil shortages in the country as there are some areas where there is no cooking oil on the shelves and in instances where prices are now way above ZWL$1,000 per 2 litre bottle.

“RBZ continues to give us US$500 000 per week since 2020 yet it knows that edible oil prices have gone up 111% to ZWL$2000 per tonne from US$950. This is a recipe for shortages,” a source close to the developments said.

Harare-based cooking oil companies are mainly supplying the northern side of the country with United Refiners Limited supplying the Bulawayo side.

Oil Expressers Association of Zimbabwe president, Busisa Moyo told Business Times that the cooking oil players are facing viability challenges.

“The industry faces various challenges hence it is not surprising if the supply is outstripped by the demand,” said Moyo, the United Refineries Limited (URL) CEO.

In a survey conducted by this publication the URL manufactured cooking oil, Roil, has not appeared in Harare shelves since the start of the year.

“We have serious viability challenges as our supplies can only reach Shangani from Bulawayo with other areas not covered,” Moyo said.

Oil expressers are currently producing less than half of the 2m litres of cooking oil required per week.

The cooking oil sector requires between US$8m and US$12m a month but it has gotten US$3m for foreign payments from the RBZ.

This has left a deficit of between US$5m and US$8m a month which is not so good for the industry.

The oil expressers are looking forward to soyabeans output as the 2021/2022 summer cropping is slowly coming to an end.

Despite the erratic rainfall patterns, the soyabean hectarage was said to be better than last year with output also expected to be good.

But the sector is wary of the soyabean prices which have gone up to around US$640 a tonne from US$350 last year, a situation which will push cooking oil prices.

It could not be established how much money the RBZ was considering to allocate to the cooking oil producers for foreign payments backlogs as the RBZ governor John Mangudya’s mobile number went unanswered by the time of going to print.

Robert Jr’s Passion Java, Mnangagwa Links Anger Grace Mugabe

PRESIDENT Robert Mugabe’s widow, Grace, is fretting over her son Robert Jnr’s newfound acquaintances who have nudged him into embracing his father’s “tormentors” in Zanu-PF, amid fears he is being exposed to danger.

Robert Jnr hit the headlines after appearing at the Zanu-PF St Mary’s rally two weeks ago in the company of self-proclaimed prophet Passion Java and other socialites.

This has seen the former First Lady fearing that her son is being dragged into the dangerous internecine fights, given how she and Mugabe were hounded out of the ruling party.

Mugabe was ousted via a military coup plotted and orchestrated by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga who was then Commander of the Defence Forces.

After he was hounded out of the party, Mugabe declared he would not vote for his tormentors ahead of the July 2018 national elections.

The ousted leader added that upon his death, he would not want them pontificating at his funeral.

This signalled his deep-rooted anger against Mnangagwa and other loyalists in the military and government who had betrayed him.

“She is worried and very angry with him at the same time,” a Mugabe family source told The NewsHawks this week.

“The former first lady only learnt about the Passion Java, Robert Jnr links a few weeks ago and she is not happy with that. Not only Amai is unhappy about that, but the whole family,” the source said.

It emerged that although some of the Mugabe family members are said to be struggling to access their money, part of the US$10 million left in a nostro account at a local bank, Robert Jnr had his money facilitated easily, with sources saying the former first lady was even called to block the transaction, but refused, grudgingly saying her son was old enough to handle his life.

“Some officials called Grace for her to stop the transaction, but she refused. She said he was a grown up and should not be taught about his life. She said that out of anger and she is still angry with him,” the source said.

In an interview with a local online platform, Robert Jnr confirmed his relationship with Java, whom he described as “a spiritual figure in my life”.

“Our relationship is just natural,” Mugabe’s first son with Grace said.

“I first saw him on social media and thought he was a funny guy. He is smart and I always wanted to meet him and it so happened we were in Zimbabwe at the same time. One of my friends who knows him linked me and we linked up and we now spend a lot of time almost every day.”

“He is a spiritual guy, a decent and straight per[1]son and I look at him as a mentor. He is like a spiritual figure in my life. He is wise, a wise guy,” Robert Jnr said.

It remains unclear how Java has amassed the riches he often flaunts on social media, raising suspicion he could be involved in illicit deals, hence the source of Grace’s fears about her son, who says he has interests in mining, agriculture and other businesses.

Robert Jnr made a surprise showing at President Mnangagwa’s St Mary’s rally recently, where he took the opportunity to greet his father’s former deputy, who then asked him how his mother was doing.

He received a rapturous welcome by thousands of Zanu-PF supporters when he was introduced by his uncle, the ruling party’s national political commissar, Mike Bimha. Mnangagwa, however, did not mention him in his address.

Exiled former Zanu-PF national political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere said the rapturous welcome Mugabe’s son received at the party meeting was clear testimony of how the former Zanu-PF strongman’s name remained a factor in Zimbabwean politics and the ruling party’s internal dynamics.

Affirmative Action Group (AAG) sources told The NewsHawks on Thursday that the sacking of Java and his executive, including the grouping’s president Mike Chimombe and his whole presidium followed alleged attempts by unnamed individuals to extort money from Robert Jnr, amid promises to protect his business ventures and lining up a meeting with Mnangagwa.

AAG founding president Philip Chiyangwa, who on Monday announced the new AAG team led by Scott Sakupwanya, was not immediately available to comment, but indicated this week that his organisation deserved people of integrity, who do not solicit money from individuals.

Commenting on the late former President’s last days, Robert Jnr said: “My dad was sick for a long time, for like 10 years, so it was just like a matter of time, so for those years we knew as a family that anytime the doctor would tell us he has a couple of days or months to live, but that day never came.”

“When 2017, 2018, 2019 came, when I went to Singapore, he came for his treatment and stayed a couple of months, but those five to six months he was there, he was very ill, he was not coming out of bed, didn’t want to eat and we would push him in a wheelchair. It’s a lot, seeing someone who used to take care of you, they are vulnerable, it is painful.”
