Mukamba Not At All Returning To DeMbare

DENVER MUKAMBA STOLE THE ATTENTION ON FRIDAY SESSION

A group of defenders, including new skipper Frank Makarati, listened attentively as coach Herbert “Jompano” Maruwa shared some defensive tactics.

On the other end of the pitch, club legend Murape Murape and Genesis “Kaka” Mangombe were working with attacking players.

Box-to-box midfielder Shadreck Nyahwa, who is recovering from a nagging knee injury, did some light training on the sidelines.

There was a lot of energy and a lot of enthusiasm among the players, who are eager to impress Dynamos’ new coach.

DeMbare’s new signing Tanaka Shandirwa has immediately drawn attention, not because of his tinted hair, but his skill and ability.

The former Yadah player, whose industriousness has earned him the moniker “Kante”, was very impressive during an 11 versus 11 session DeMbare held at Alex Sports Club on Friday.

However, the training session was soon to be halted following the arrival of Division Two side Mabvuku United, who had come for a sparring match with the Harare giants.

But attention soon switched to an all-too-familiar but pleasant surprise guest.

Denver Mukamba walked into the venue and greeted the security staff before having a long chat with Dynamos secretary Webster Marechera.

Whether the chat was business or social is still unclear.

However, Maruwa cleared the air on Mukamba, who has been heavily linked with a return to DeMbare after he was offloaded by Ngezi Platinum Stars.

Mukamba won the 2012 Soccer Star of the Year award with Dynamos, before his career took a nosedive due to disciplinary issues.

Since 2012, he has played for University of Pretoria, Jomo Cosmos, CAPS United, Chapungu United and Ngezi Platinum Stars.

He is now eyeing another sensational return to DeMbare.

“Nothing as yet concerning Denver (Mukamba). He just came to watch the game.

“If there is anything, we will let you know,” Maruwa told The Sunday Mail Sport.

While the future of the controversial Mukamba remains a subject of speculation, Ali Sadiki, who hails from the same neighbourhood in Highfield as the controversial player, has found a new home at Dynamos.

The 35-year-old linkman is the latest player to join DeMbare, who have been on a massive realignment exercise since the arrival of Maruwa.

“He (Sadiki) is now a Dynamos player; he has signed already,” said the gaffer.

Sadiki, who played for Simba Bhora in the Northern Region Division One league last season, becomes the ninth official signing.

Strikers Nyasha Chintuli (28) and Soccer Star of the Year finalist Eli Ilunga (25) are now at DeMbare.

Chintuli looked lively during Friday’s training session.

Emmanuel Ziocha (21), Shandirwa (23), Tendai Matindife (21), Arthur “Diego” Musiiwa (27) and the Moyo twins — Kevin and Elvis — are the other new signings who played a part in the practice match against Mabvuku United.

Musiiwa, who has joined DeMbare from Bulawayo Chiefs, is a skilful midfielder with an eye for that fine pass.

He scored the solitary goal when Chiefs beat Herentals in the 2022 Chibuku Super Cup final at Barbourfields Stadium in November.

“We need to build a team that can compete with the likes of FC Platinum and Chicken Inn, then see what happens.

“But so far so good. The new guys are giving us a lot of options,” said Maruwa.

The former Black Rhinos coach clocks exactly 40 days in charge of Dynamos today.

He replaced Tonderai Ndiraya, who led DeMbare to a third-place finish in the 2021/2022 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

And now Maruwa is aiming to do better than Ndiraya.

That is why he has been refreshing the squad with young and energetic players.

Thirteen players have already been shown the door.

Godknows Murwira, Keith Murera, Ralph Kawondera, Sylvester Appiah, Albert Eonde and Alex Orotomal are no longer at DeMbare.

Ageing striker Evans Katema and Ghanaian flop Martin Ofori have been transfer-listed, while Luke Musikiri, Claivert Tshuma and Stephen Chatikobo — who filled the Under-20 slots last season — have been released.

Some of the key players in DeMbare’s campaign last season — Taimon Mvula, Emmanuel Jalai and Emmanuel Paga — have been retained.

“In terms of endurance, the boys are almost 70 percent; we keep on pushing, and we are happy.

“We need a strong team that can compete and reduce the gap between us and defending champions FC Platinum.

“We need to make sure we are up there for us to compete.”

DeMbare are not yet done with signings.

“We need to keep on improving the team. We need to add two or so guys to make sure we have a solid team. Expect more signings.”

Maruwa has brought in a new approach at Dynamos, and discipline has become the buzzword.

The gaffer also wants to assemble a youthful side that can overrun opponents.

“It’s not about performance only, even discipline also counts,” he says.

As a result, some of the players were offloaded for indiscipline.

“We need a vibrant squad with an average of 25 years.

“We need a team with a lot of energy and speed; that’s why we are bringing in more youngsters. But we also have to balance the squad with some senior guys,” he said.

Mnangagwa In Bid To Capture Church Leaders

Tinashe Sambiri|Fearless and tough-talking preacher, Bishop Ancelimo Magaya, has implored the church to denounce Zanu PF barbarism.

In a strong statement at the weekend, Bishop Magaya challenged the church to remain firm and resolute in speaking out the truth to power.

Read the statement below…

The church’s recent efforts commendable.

We commend and applaud the church’s recent pastoral visit to the Murewa politically motivated victims of violence and their subsequent clear statement calling for peace and restoration of people’s freedoms.

The story of a Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) does not only ridicule a religion that does not take cognizance of the full worthy of the dignity of humanity as depicted by the Priest and Levite who “passed by on the other side”, but clearly models how the church should lead in good neighborliness.

At a time that many “church leaders” have opted to sing a song of a parot as written by Kenyan writer Ngugi Wathiongo, and sadly doing so for corruptible gold and silver, the true church should rise and be true to their calling. The church is exhorted to do more than statements. Let us overcome fear and be ready to be counted among the ancient prophets and apostles. It is ironic that many that call themselves apostles and prophets today do not have an aota of similarity with the prophets and apostles who have gone before us. If the church rises and be true to her calling, serving God and “holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience “ (1Tim 3:9), Zimbabwe will be transitioned into an era of socio-economic,justice bliss:a foretaste of what the new world under the rulership of Christ will be.

A warning to those who have opted to fear and serve the interests of the evil doers -strengthening their hands(Jer 23:14), God will expose you soon unless you repent from your blaspheming spree and be true to your calling. God save Zimbabwe.

Robbers Gun Down Man At Bank

A man was shot in the head outside a bank in Wick Street, Verulam, on Monday at 9am.

Prem Balram, of Reaction Unit SA, said the man was rushed to hospital in a critical condition and died on arrival.

He said the robbers made off with two bags of cash.

“The Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) Operations Centre received multiple calls from businesses and the public reporting a shooting in progress.

“On arrival, Rusa officers discovered the victim lying on the pavement, bleeding from a gunshot wound to his head.

“Rusa medics stabilised him on scene before expediting him to hospital in a critical condition.

“His condition rapidly deteriorated during the journey. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful and he was pronounced deceased on arrival at the hospital.”

Balram said that according to witnesses, the victim and a work colleague were a few metres away from the entrance of the bank when they were confronted by two armed males.

“One of the suspects fired two shots and stole two bags of cash before fleeing in their getaway vehicle.

“Some witnesses reported that either a black VW Golf or silver Toyota Corolla with an ND registration was used by the robbers.”

He said the second victim was not injured.

This weekend, a man was killed while walking with his daughter in Newlands East.

It is alleged that gunmen travelling in a VW Polo opened fire on them.

Both of them were hit and taken to hospital. The father died from his injuries.

Police said a case of murder and attempted murder was being investigated.

CCC Female Activists Fondled In Prison

By- Female CCC activists who are part of the 25 arrested last week in Harare’s Budiriro suburb complain they are being fondled in remand prison.

The female activists accused the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services wardens of transporting them in the same van with male prisoners who were not members of the party, which resulted in them being fondled along the way.

Their lawyers, Wilbert Mandinde, Kudzai Kadzere and Chris Mhike said that one of the accused persons acquired the COVID-19 virus while in prison and has been isolated for 10 days.
Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda ordered the State to investigate the abuse and bring the report to court by Friday.
Meanwhile, the defence filed the accused persons’ bail applications.
But the State said the accused might join their colleagues to commit similar offences if released on bail.
The defence insisted that bail was a constitutional right and the accused persons’ liberty must be preserved. They also submitted that the State failed to provide reasons for denying the opposition members bail.
The matter was postponed to today for bail application continuation.
Allegations are that on January 14, 2023, the accused persons responded to an invitation for a meeting at Budiriro MP Costa Machingauta’s house.
Last Saturday, the activists who were dressed in their party regalia gathered at Machingauta’s house where they chanted CCC party slogans.
It is State’s case that ZRP Budiriro received a tip off that the accused were gathered illegally and went to investigate.
“Upon arrival at the scene of crime, the police observed that the accused’s conduct was disturbing the peace of a section of members of the public. The police ordered the accused persons to disperse, but they resisted leading to their arrest. The accused had no lawful excuse to act in the manner they did,” the State submitted. Newsday

Zim Pastor Fired After Hiring Assassin To Kill Wife In Canada

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | A Zimbabwean priest for the Anglican church, Rev Tapiwa Gusha whose audio messages plotting to get his wife killed, has been fired, ZimEye is told.

While an official church statement was awaited Rev Tapiwa Gusha is heard in the audios narrating to a Mozambique based assassin transcribed below.

Sekuru Zandamela how are you?

My name is Tapiwa, I got your number from Sekuru Mapungwana from Inyanga.

I have a problem. I have a wife I separated from over 6 months ago. I am now staying alone, we are both in different areas of the same Canadian town. After separating, we parted ways with 2 boys, 8 years, and another who is 6 years.

So she is angry with me to the point of making to see the kids again, so I was seeking someone who can help me so that these kids can return to me to live with them. So I was seeking someone who can make her heart become dark (sedate through poisoning), so she can release the kids over to me, or that the wife herself goes forever, she dies (from poisoning) so that I don’t get into problems.

So I was given your number and decided to ask you for help and hear what is quickest and easiest for you. And myself what am I supposed to pay you? This is my story Sekuru, I would be happy to hear from you; thank you very much.

………………..

AT THIS POINT, THE PRIEST COMMUNICATES IN WRITING (WATCH VIDEO).

It is well Sekuru, I am hearing you.
Let me now send you my pictures, and my totem. I will send you my children’s pictures.
I will then send you my wife’s pictures. After you’ve inspected them, you will then inform me what is needed. If you work out a way to make her get blown over (sedate through poisoning) to make her lose the kids, she returns the children to me; so that she doesn’t take them back. But I was thinking that she might still bounce back, it will continue as a continuous war between us, so I was asking that if there is a way to just make her lose her life at once, so that we know that the war has ended. This is what I was thinking, but you can review which is the best way be fixed once and for all. This is what I was asking.

Mwonzora, Mudzuri War Escalates

By-Suspended former MDC-T vice president Elias Mudzuri has lashed out at the party president Douglas Mwonzora and accused him of destroying the once vibrant opposition.

The MDC-T National Council recently suspended Mudzuri together with six other party leaders for “indiscipline”.

The other officials who were suspended are provincial chairpersons Gift Konjana (Mashonaland West), John Nyika (Masvingo) Den Moyo (USA Province) Edwin Dzambara (Secretary for Education), and Edwin Kakora (national executive member).

In an interview with TellZim News Mudzuri said he was yet to receive communication on his suspension.

He said he only heard about the suspension from other members of the party who were in the meeting that resolved to suspend him. Mudzuri added:

Mwonzora is destroying the party with his actions. The party needs people for the 2023 elections but he is busy suspending; how is it going to stand a chance against ZANU PF?

Mudzuri, on his official Twitter account, claimed that the party had resolved to fire him for telling leaders that leadership should be chosen from grassroots structures. He wrote:

I am reliably informed that today (January 21, 2023) the illegitimate MDC National Council will expel me from the party.

How can a founder member be expelled for insisting that leaders must always be chosen by the base structures & not the elite & for merely chatting with customers at Duriro Bar?

Zanu PF Targets More Chamisa Top Aides

By- Zanu PF is targeting Top Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) officials to soil them ahead of this year’s elections.

The latest target is the party’s deputy President Welshman Ncube who has been dragged to the Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) by Vice-President Phelekezela Mphoko’s son, Siqokoqela, for allegedly stealing trust funds.

The state media report that the Mphokos are accusing the opposition leader of squandering part of the US$2,9 million they got as shares from Choppies Enterprises after they were bought out of the company.

The matter is still pending before the courts.
According to summons filed at the Bulawayo High Court under case number HC 2906/19, the Mphokos want an order directing Prof Ncube to pay them about US$1,5 million being the outstanding balance of the money they received as shares from Choppies including a five percent interest calculated from January 16, 2019, to the date of full payment.
In papers before the court, Prof Ncube was cited as a defendant.
In a new twist to the legal wrangle, Siqokoqela wrote to LSZ appealing to the regulatory body of lawyers in the country to compel Prof Ncube to produce bank statements from his law firm with reference to funds he received under trust from Choppies Enterprises on their behalf.
Prof Ncube of Mathonsi Ncube Law Chambers represented the Mphokos before they ditched him for Mr Zibusiso Ncube of Ncube and Partners.
In his letter dated 17 January 2023, Siqokoqela said Prof Ncube, by virtue of being an officer of the law, breached the trust of the attorney and client in violation of the ethics of the legal profession.
Siqokoqela said Prof Ncube confirmed to him that he received on his behalf, the full amount from Choppies Enterprises.
Upon request, he (Prof Ncube) only paid me US$280 000 of my 25,5 percent shares from the amount transferred to Mathonsi Ncube Law Chambers trust account,” he stated in his letter.
Siqokoqela said Prof Ncube, while acting in his capacity as their attorney under a contract of mandate and having separately been contracted to do so in a written addendum to a settlement agreement signed between the Mphokos and Choppies on January 11, 2019, received the money.
He said as per the agreement, Prof Ncube was supposed to get US$100 000 for his legal services.
“Despite demand, Welshman Ncube has failed, neglected, and refused to pay me. I have also taken this matter to the High Court in Bulawayo and the matter under case number HC2906/19 is awaiting trial,” he said.
“I am appealing to the Law Society of Zimbabwe to compel Welshman Ncube to produce bank statements with reference to the funds under trust from Choppies Enterprises on my behalf in terms of the laws of the country.”
Siqokoqela said at the time of receiving US$2, 9 million from Choppies Enterprise, Prof Ncube was their family lawyer between January and February 2019 before they had a fallout.
“At all material times, I was a 25,5 percent shareholder in Nanavac Investments trading as Choppies Zimbabwe. The amount of money received by Ncube in trust involved a transaction where I was pressured to dispose of my shares in exchange for the withdrawal of fake criminal charges against me and my wife,” he said.

The Mphokos exited Botswana-based Nanavac Investments, trading as Choppies Supermarkets Zimbabwe, in January 2019 after offering to be bought out of the company to end a protracted ownership wrangle.
At the height of their legal battles, Choppies Enterprises’ chief executive officer, Mr Ramachandran Ottapathu alleged that the Mphoko family owned only seven percent shareholding.
He said the other 44 percent was given to them to fulfil the indigenisation laws of the country. However, Prof Ncube, who at the time represented the Mphokos, insisted that his clients held 51 percent of the shares.
The fight became messy when Siqokoqela and his wife Nomagugu were dragged to court on charges of interfering with the operations of Choppies Distribution Centre and Choppies Enterprises. This followed accusations that they swindled the businesses of a combined US$80 000.
Siqokoqela, who was a shareholder in the retail business and a non-executive director, was accused of abusing his power to “loot” US$50 000 in cash realised from sales at different supermarkets and replacing it with transfers.
Nomagugu was facing 49 counts of extortion after allegedly bulldozing various Choppies outlets in Bulawayo and demanding cash.
The two matters under case numbers CRB Byo 2431/18 and CRB Byo 2567/18 were subsequently withdrawn.
This was after Mr Ramachandran submitted an affidavit to the prosecution withdrawing charges against Siqokoqela and Nomagugu.

How To Know If CBD Capsules Are Of Premium Quality?

For individuals looking to make CBD an integral part of their wellness routine, premium-quality CBD capsules are the way to go. These capsules are designed with superior ingredients and backed by rigorous quality control standards. With premium quality capsules, users can be confident of powerful effects in a convenient form factor. Their convenience makes them perfect for discreet use without compromising potency or efficacy. All in all, depending on your unique needs and condition, buying premium quality Cannabidiol capsules may be the ideal solution to support your desire for optimal health and well-being.

Here’s How To Know If CBD Capsules Are Of Premium Quality

1. Look For A Certificate Of Analysis

If you are looking for premium quality CBD capsules, then the first thing you need to look for is a Certificate of Analysis. An independent lab test should always be carried out to guarantee that the product meets the correct standards and contains no harmful substances.

You can buy here

These tests will often look at things such as potency, terpenes, compounds, and vital contaminants to reassure consumers that these capsules have been produced safely and efficiently. This knowledge will give you peace of mind when choosing which product is right for you.

2. Third-Party Testing

Knowing if a Cannabidiol capsule is of premium quality comes down to one method; looking for third-party testing. Third-party testing goes beyond just seeing the capsule’s contents, but rather making sure the lab’s analysis complements each other, ensuring that not only are the ingredients in the capsules accurate but, more importantly, that they’ve been through rigorous quality tests to ensure safety and potency.

Furthermore, it can ensure that what is printed on the label is legally and accurately matched with its content.

Lastly, since every batch of products is unique, customers can have peace of mind knowing that each capsule can be verified using third-party tests through its batch number. Knowing this information provides certainty and assurance when purchasing premium CBD capsules.

3. Hemp Seed Oil

If you are considering taking these capsules as an addition to your daily routine, then knowing what to look for in terms of quality is essential. One evidence-based sign of premium quality CBD capsules is their ingredients list – look for hemp seed oil!

Although the human body does not make cannabinoids internally, the fatty acids contained within hemp seed oil help facilitate better absorption into our systems when taken in combination with other ingredients such as Cannabidiol.

Quality seal certifications from independent regulators and third-party laboratory tests can also serve as indicators of high-quality capsules, so research thoroughly before you place an order.

4. CO2 Extraction

Many CBD capsules can differ in effectiveness and quality, so it is important to understand the methods used in production. One of the key markers of premium-quality capsules is whether CO2 extraction was used during production.

This extraction method involves using a carbon dioxide gas, which allows for all beneficial components of hemp to be retained while preventing contamination. Since CO2 extraction results in a more concentrated product, you can rest assured that your Cannabidiol capsule provides maximum benefits. Therefore, if you want to know that your CBD capsules are of premium quality, look for those produced with the CO2 extraction method.

5. CBD Concentration

To identify if a CBD capsule is of superior quality, you should look at its concentration of cannabidiol. This can be found on the manufacturer’s product label or website and will typically be listed as an amount of mg per capsule.

Generally, these capsules that have higher concentrations often have more robust effects. However, you should take caution before taking high doses of Cannabidiol, as it may lead to undesirable side effects.

Researching a company’s reputation can also help ensure the safety and composition of its products, as they are expected to follow all necessary regulatory rules to guarantee the most effective outcomes.

6. Price Point

Finding CBD capsules of premium quality can be difficult, making price points a key consideration for any buyer. In general, premium products tend to cost more because production and ingredient acquisition involve complicated and costly processes.

For example, many manufacturers use CO2 supercritical extraction, which is one of the most expensive methods, to extract potent oils from hemp flowers.

Consequently, when investigating potential product options with similar results, buyers should note price points to identify those offering the highest possible quality. Furthermore, check that companies carry reputable certifications like the US Hemp Authority.

Why Should You Buy Premium-Quality CBD Capsules?

Premium quality CBD capsules offer several critical benefits to those taking them:

  1. This type of product has been carefully formulated and bottled in conditions that meet some of the highest standards available with modern advancements in cannabis product production.
  1. By opting for a premium quality option, you also gain access to laboratory-verified reports which underpin the safety and efficacy of the formula and ingredients.
  1. As with other health supplements, you learn that anything claiming to be part of your dietary needs is effective and trustworthy.

Are CBD Capsules Legal?

CBD capsules have become increasingly popular for various reasons, including convenience, the accuracy of dosage, and increased bioavailability. While its legality can be complicated due to various regulations at the state level, some helpful guidelines make understanding these laws easier.

There is no universal answer to whether or not these capsules are legal; it depends on many factors, such as the source of the product and its THC content. In most countries around the world, products made using industrial hemp extracts are considered legal, as long as they contain less than 0.3% THC.

When purchasing these capsules online or in-store, it is essential to research both federal and state laws to ensure you are dealing with a legitimate product. Doing this will ensure you purchase a legally compliant product that won’t put your health at risk.

Summing It Up

Buying premium-quality CBD capsules is undoubtedly a wise decision for anyone looking to maximize the potential benefits of this natural compound. These capsules contain higher levels of active ingredients than lower-grade products and are typically more convenient and less messy than other delivery methods. Additionally, because these capsules are generally easier to swallow than oils or tinctures, they may be preferred by those who find taking Cannabidiol in a liquid form difficult.

DRC Courts Clear Matiza’s Argus Company

Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) courts have cleared young Zimbabwe businessman Batsirai Matiza’s Argus Company to start operations.

This comes after Argus attracted the interest of international investors after spearheading successful acquisitions of Cobalt mining companies based in the DRC.

Argus had disputes with some interested groups but courts have resolved that Matiza’s Argus is the rightful owner and operator on the 40 claims located in an area north of Kinshasa.

Argus representatives have confirmed 50 percent of the $24 million investment is already on the ground in the form of equipment, real estate and personnel.

“Due to the dispute Matiza has increased personal security after threats coming from DRC based big wigs and previous miners on the claims,” close sources said. “He also advocated for more compliance in the industry which put Argus at odds with local businessmen.

Efforts to reach Matiza via phone and email were fruitless.

Matiza, using off-shore based Argus Group as the special purpose vehicle, has entered into deals which will see him partnering with international companies across the globe.

Argus has taken a unique approach by accepting cryptocurrency investment in conjunction with fiat currency, shielding its investors from the spotlight.

Sulemain Habib, based in dubai last year said the team has been pleased with Argus’s direction to date and looks forward to being welcomed to Zimbabwe in January 2022.

“We are happy to be working with him. He is young but very aggressive. That is what we need, especially in these unpredictable markets. Unfortunately I am not in a position to disclose the finer details as these are private investments and Mr. Matiza is now politically exposed.”

Batsirai who is the son of former Transport minister Biggie Matiza, has a strong finance background and network. He also recently became a member of the Central Committee, Zanu-PF’s Principal organ of the Party.

Matiza worked for Goldman Sachs in New York, the largest investment bank in the world, covering tech, media, and telecommunications companies in their prestigious Investment Banking Division.

“King Mswati Killed Prominent Lawyer”

Tinashe Sambiri|The Citizens Coalition for Change( CCC) Namibia has accused King Mswati 111 of killing top Eswatini lawyer Thulani Maseko.

See below CCC Namibia statement on the death of Maseko.

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Namibia blasts King Mswati 111 for the brutal murder of the Lawyer & Human Rights Defender, Thulani Maseko!

23 January 2023

Citizens Coalition for Change Namibia is infuriated by the continued human butchery of lawyers, political activists, students, and human rights defenders in eSwatini since 2021. As a pro-democracy movement, we urge SADC, African Union, and the United Nations to investigate the callous murder of the renowned lawyer and human rights defender ,Thulani Maseko.

Thulani Maseko was just fighting for the advent of constitutional democracy in eSwatini. It is not a crime to clamor for a representative democracy where people are allowed to participate in the national discourse. The people of eSwatini are longing for democratic elections that will see monarchism sinking into oblivion. Namibia district encourages SADC to speak out in condemnation of this gross abuse of the universal fundamental human rights in eSwatini. May the revolutionary soul of Thulani Maseko rest in power.

This culture of dictatorship in Southern Africa must be resisted with equal measure. All progressive citizens in SADC countries should amplify their revolutionary voices against state repression. The ruthless monarchist is the one who sent his hitmen to decimate the life of our diligent lawyer and human rights defender because of his advocacy for constitutionalism as well as the rule of law.

In the recent week in Zimbabwe, we saw human rights defender Kudzai Kadzere brutally attacked by the captured Zimbabwe Republic Police(ZRP). Citizens Coalition for Change Namibia condemns both the Harare regime and Mswati’s monarchy for their behavior towards social democrats and human rights lawyers . Lawyer Kudzai Kadzere was left with broken arms in the course of representing the arbitrarily arrested CCC Budiriro 26 who include Hon Amos Chibaya, Hon Costa Machingauta, CLR Mukwada, Star from change radio, and others.

Progressive inhabitants of SADC should unite against these monsters who don’t respect the sanctity of life. Firing two bullets in the head of the lawyer is beyond satanism. We demand justice for Thulani Maseko. These assassins must be brought to book. Mswati and his ruthless counterpart in Zimbabwe should face the fury of social democrats. It is sad to inform the globe that Hon Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala is still caged at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison on trumped-up charges since 14 June 2022. Sikhala has endured incarceration for more than 7 months now for demanding justice for Moreblessing Ali who was abducted and later murdered in cold blood by a ZANU-PF thug, Pius Jamba.

The battle against lawyers must be thwarted in its infancy. Job Sikhala was arrested whilst representing the Ali family. He was both the family spokesperson and lawyer who led a successful search for Moreblessing Ali. We demand justice for all political prisoners. Rest in peace Thulani Maseko, your blood shall water the freedom tree. Maseko was shot in the presence of his wife and children after the King had given a stern warning to those who were advocating for the democratization of eSwatini.

Babes Wodumo Reflects On Difficult Start To 2023

Musician Babes Wodumo has not had the best start to 2023 following the untimely passing of her husband Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo on Christmas eve.

While her family were still trying to adjust to their new normal, her mother-in-law, Zamanguni Gumede, passed away in January after suffering a minor stroke.

Gumede had been admitted to hospital before her son became ill and her health is said to have worsened after his passing.

Her funeral took place at L Hall KwaMashu on Saturday, January 21, and the singer and her family, the Simelanes, were in attendance.

Wodumo shared a video of herself holding her son, commonly known as Sponge, on Mampintsha’s Facebook page. She is dressed in black and can be heard singing a church hymn.

“Past few weeks have been a lot for me … Syabonga Nkosi ngokusigcine kuze kufike la, Syabonga ngokusilondoloza … If it was not for ukukholwa kwam ngabe asikho la …” she wrote on her caption.

Loosely translated, this means: “Thank you Lord for keeping us until this point. Thank you for keeping us … if it was not for my faith we would not be here.”

According to a report by Daily Sun, during her speech at the funeral Wodumo revealed that she had carried the costs of her mother-in-law’s funeral.

This comes after she extended an olive branch to Gumede, who she had a rocky relationship with over the years.

Wodumo’s post was filled with comments of people praising her for her actions and many offering her words of support during her trying times.

Zimbabweans Tamper With Mental-Health As Witchcraft

By Dr Masimba Masimba| Zimbabwe now limps under a heavy frenzy of spiritualism and strong belief of witchcraft. Sadly Zimbabweans of all walks have taken witchcraft seriously. So many things which happens are now attributed to witchcraft.
If you get rich your community will explain your riches as use of some witchcraft associated ritual(kuromba).
If any person dies no matter what was his ailment he is said to have been bewitched. The most painful thing is that any deaths in the family or in the village the oldest person in that village is blamed and accused of witchcraft. According to the mindset of many people in Zimbabwe the most ugly old and dark in complexion are always the perfect suspects.
It is a sad situation to see people being dragged to a corner or brought before an angry crowd accused of being responsible for bringing the misfortune which is upon the village.
It is sad because Zimbabweans from ministers to a man in the street believe in witchcraft or getting money from some supernatural powers.
If anyone gets old and starts to hallucinate people are quick to say that person is a witch.
Hallucinations are experiences of perceptual force that are experienced in the absence of any actual external stimulus. They are generally resistant to voluntary control. Whilst traditionally associated with mental disorder they are now known to be common in the general population. They not infrequently have spiritual/religious content. But to a random Zimbabwean this condition is turned and the person is labelled a witch.
Spiritual experiences, including religious and mystical experiences, include a wide range of experiences, amongst which are perceptual phenomena such as hallucinations, which are of spiritual/religious significance.
Many old people are subjected to cruel torture they are tricked into confirming the witchcraft they are not aware of.

Everything which is not understood by a Zimbabwean it is given a spiritual definition. We might define spiritual experiences as in some way involving a relationship with the transcendent. Unfortunately Such experiences are necessarily subjective. We cannot know about them unless the person having them is willing and able to attempt to describe them. But sadly there are fake prophets who who pretend to explain hallucinations. Both the experiences themselves, and any written or verbal account of them necessarily involve interpretation, and this interpretation is vested in the witch doctor or a prophet. Experience is not separable from interpretation. From the very time of having the experience onwards, prior assumptions about the world, including spiritual/religious assumptions, both shape the experience and become incorporated in accounts of it.
People in Zimbabwe have failed to be themselves they want someone to interpret.
The concept of revelation generally includes some idea of communication with the Divine – whether directly or via some intermediary such as a saint, angel, or other spiritual being. Communities now stampede to get a spiritual clarification of some mysteries or dreams or literally want to know more about their future. Revelation or spiritual proclamations may be public, and thus shared with a community of faith, or else private and of significance only to the individual concerned. When it occurs by way of voices and visions, revelatory experience has usually, historically, been considered in some way or another as ‘supernatural’ or miraculous.
This mentality of some sort of super powers in the beyond world has resulted in many Zimbabweans running to the spiritual persons for revelation or clarification. There is no event in life which is not explained spiritually. This is a belief which has divided and destroyed families and relations.
The fake prophets and witch doctors have made Zimbabwe a nation under thousands blankets of paganism.
Old ladies and old men with dementia are dragged and paraded in-front t of communities and crowds accused of witchcraft.
Those suffering from dementia or mental health are all presented as candidates for witchcraft.
Many people who are accused of witchcraft turn to be suffering from dementia. Their lives are turned upside down and are left to be labelled as witches.
Some because of mental health say a lot of things which are confused as confession. Spiritual highs and mental breakdowns are both products of the same evolved brain system granting us the power to transform.
Dementia is a disorder which manifests as a set of related symptoms, which usually surfaces when the brain is damaged by injury or disease or by age. The symptoms involve progressive impairments in memory, thinking, and behavior, which negatively affects a person’s ability to function and carry out everyday activities. Aside from memory impairment and a disruption in thought patterns, the most common symptoms include emotional problems, difficulties with language, and decreased motivation. The symptoms may be described as occurring in a continuum over several stages. Consciousness is not affected. social relationships in general.A diagnosis of dementia requires the observation of a change from a person’s usual mental functioning and a greater cognitive decline than what is caused by normal aging. People who suffer from dementia are the ones who suffer more from accusations of witchcraft.
A story is told of a prophet who interpreted what a patient was seeing. He had seen a moon and explained that there will be a good time ahead. When he snapped out of his psychosis one night with a sudden realisation: the giant cross he saw covering the Moon, which he previously interpreted as a clear sign of impending catastrophe, was actually a visual illusion caused by the wire screen outside his hospital window. But the interpretation by these prophets is catastrophic. They will accuse the patient of witchcraft. Or that he has been bewitched.
The prophets claim that by virtue of their uninterrupted contact with forces that other people cannot perceive they then are the only ones who are able to see our future. But having seen and witnessed similar accounts of this nonsense by prophets the visions and revelations are far from unique.
Some prophets feel so close to God, believe to be inspired by His Spirit that in a sense they think that they are God. Some prophets claim to see the future, plan the Universe, save mankind; th utterly and completely immortal.
What is going on with our country with our people. These prophets must never be allowed to practice.
Many people are accused of being witches because they have worked hard and they have become rich. People do not have any explanation of wealth so they just say(munhu akaromba) meaning one has voodoo or juju
Unfortunately the man who cursed Zimbabwe should be dead. You will see the elite of the country believing that they will be rich by prayer. Some believe that they will be rich by using voodoo. No wonder why our industrial buildings are turned into churches.
The most knee shaking thing is when a person is accused of witchcraft because he has lost his mind. Pressure is piled on him so that he utters some form of confession.
It is natural that people do suffer from dementia due to age. Zimbabweans persecute the old and the mentally ill accusing them of witchcraft.
There are some social media YouTube stations who make money out of broadcasting and parading the vulnerable as witches.
Zimbabwe laws on witchcraft are governed by the Witchcraft Suppression Act. This Act is called the Witchcraft Suppression Act, 1957. The Act was amended so as to make it an offence for a person who pretends to exercise supernatural powers, to impute the cause of certain occurrences to another person; and to provide for incidental matters.- THE amendment of the Witchcraft Suppression Act has been welcomed as resonating with Zimbabwean culture and tradition. But this has opened doors to total abuse of the vulnerable. The new Act has become the free ticket to abuse of people suffering from mental health.
The new Act that took effect in July 2014 is a culmination of years of intense negotiations, now recognises that there is, indeed, the practice of witchcraft that had been deliberately downplayed by the successive colonial governments. Traditionalists say the amendments show that the country was finally waking up to calls from the people who felt the Witchcraft Suppression Act was stalling the genuine development of African culture in the country. It has become a norm that people who do not understand the effects of mental illness accuse the afflicted of witchcraft.
Until the amendment, it was a criminal offence to brand anyone a witch or wizard or to accuse someone of meddling in the supernatural, even where there was tangible evidence. This had given communities some sanity until the amendment.
The amended sections read: “Whoever accuses a person of witchcraft means to indicate that the person (is possessed by a spirit or) used non-natural means (witch-finding) to cause death, injury, disease or inability in any person. “Any person who engages in any practice knowing that it is commonly associated with witchcraft, shall be guilty of engaging in a practice commonly associated with witchcraft if having the intention to cause harm to any person. “Such practice inspires in the person against whom it was directed, a real fear or belief that harm will occur to that person or any member of his or her family, and be liable to a fine not exceeding level ten or imprisonment for a period not exceeding five years or both.”
To an extent the witchcraft act as amended supports the idea that witches are real. This gives the fake prophets to accuse the vulnerable without impunity.
In the new amendments the spoken words shall not constitute an act of witchcraft for the purpose of this section, unless accompanied by or used in connection with other conduct commonly associated with witchcraft. “For the avoidance of doubt, it is declared that any person who assists another person to commit the crime of engaging in a practice commonly associated with witchcraft, by giving advice or providing any substance or article to enable that person to commit the crime, shall be liable to be charged as an accomplice to the crime.
This section make it clear that social media led by YouTube activists do breach the law every time. They should be arrested.
The amendment also criminalises the hiring of witch hunters an d those convicted will be fined or jailed for periods of between one and five years. Analysts said it was good that the new amendment disqualifies murder, assault or any other crimes against an accused as it could be used to mete undue punishments on people before they could be tried in the courts of law.
While amending the witchcraft suppression Act was a giant step in recognising the cultural belief of the majority of the people in the country it has give unscrupulous people to take advantage of the vulnerable. As custodians of the country’s culture, we should see the amendment as a step in the right direction towards asserting our culture that has been trampled upon by successive colonial governments, but there are notorious people who take the amendment as a weakness. The government must deal firmly with bogus traditional healers, exorcists and witch-hunters or tsikamutandas.it is sad that the amendments made to the Act now recognises that witchcraft exists and was in practice in the country. It must be appreciated that there is the recognition of witchcraft as a social phenomenon that is in practice in the country and that it should never be recognised in the negative sense but also in the positive.
We are in the quandary because it is correct that by rejecting the existence of witchcraft, whites managed to destroy one of the tenets of African traditional beliefs as a way of disenfranchising the blacks of their religious bedrock,” said one analyst. Many Zimbabweans have been pressing for the amendment of the Witchcraft Suppression Act so that the country could recognise the existence of this phenomenon which was made illegal by colonial governments. It now remains to be seen whether the amended Act would bring out or not, some of the traditional values that have been suppressed for many decades under the colonial Witchcraft Suppression Act for the good of the society.
What we see now is the total abuse of the law along with its vulnerable people it is meant to protect.
We should realise that certain types of mental disorder and certain types of religious experience are alike attempts at reorganisation. The difference lies in the outcome. Where the attempt is successful and some degree of victory is won, it is commonly recognised as religious experience. Where it is unsuccessful or indeterminate, it is commonly spoken of as ‘insanity’.
We should know that Witchcraft, is a perceived facility to summon evil spirits and demons to do harm to others, this is linked to religion to the extent that the medieval Church had powers to punish those who dabbled in magic and sorcery. Its priests were able to exorcise those who had become possessed by malign spirits. And in our African culture the witch was punished by death or some form of torture.
It is sad that I’m this day and age many people still believe that witchcraft, rather than the workings of God’s will, offered a more convincing explanation of sudden and unexpected ill-fortune, such as the death of a child, bad harvests, or the death of cattle. Witch-hunting became an obsession in some parts of the country and many people have been made to believe it.
Colonial Parliament passed the Witchcraft Act which defined witchcraft or accusing another of witchcraft as a crime punishable by imprisonment.
Formal accusations against witches who are usually poor, elderly women has reached a peak in Zimbabwe and it must be stopped.
Many people in Zimbabwe now suffer from mental health. In their suffering they either become spiritual leaders or may be accused of witchcraft.
Many spiritual gatherings are led by unstable minds.
Many people have been accused of witchcraft by the finger of the mentally unwell.
The country is rolling very fast towards self destruction.
Mental health must be taken seriously and treatment must be recommended.

UN Condemns Assassination Of Eswatini Human Rights Lawyer

“They have intended to hurt us, to break our spirit, our moral strength and crush our resilience so that we succumb to their evil desires.” Excerpts from an open letter from prison written by Thulani Maseko in 2015.

We express our pain and outrage at the brazen assassination of renowned human rights lawyer, Thulani Maseko who was gunned down at point-blank range, in front of his wife and children at his home in Luhleko, Mbabane, on the evening of January 21, 2023. This atrocious, cowardly and cold-blooded act came a few hours after King Mswati had issued ‘stern warnings’ to those calling for democratic reforms in the country, and that his hired mercenaries would deal with them.

At the time of his death, Maseko was a senior member of Lawyers for Human Rights Swaziland, and chairperson of the Multi-Stakeholder Forum, a convergence of various stakeholders calling for constitutional reforms in Eswatini. As one of the founding members of SouthernDefenders, Maseko made an immense contribution to the advancement of justice and human rights not only in Eswatini but throughout the Southern Africa region. He has carried out several fact-finding missions to countries like Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi where he reported on the deterioration of civic space in the region.

A staunch believer in the rule of law and constitutionalism, Maseko used his professional legal skills to advocate for democratic reforms and peaceful transition. It is deeply saddening that his work and selfless dedication has been repaid in such a ruthless and callous act.”, said Professor Adriano Nuvunga, Vice-Chairperson of SouthernDefenders.

In Eswatini, many will attest that Maseko persistently preached the message of peace and love. In the face of great adversity, Maseko remained steadfast in the fight for freedom and justice, courageously raising awareness of the injustices suffered by the people of Eswatini. It is deeply saddening that he has paid the ultimate price with his life in this gruesome and callous manner.

While the government of Eswatini issued a statement condemning the murder of Maseko and its intention to investigate, SouthernDefenders asserts that, given the political environment, only an independent investigation can ensure that those responsible for the assassination of Maseko and many others brutally injured and killed are brought to justice and their families rightfully compensated. We, therefore, call on SADC, the African Union, and the international community to hold the leadership of King Mswati III accountable for the violence that continues to be meted against the people of Eswatini, merely for advocating for their recognized fundamental human rights, including political participation.

We are gravely concerned that the killing of Maseko signifies an increasingly dangerous deterioration of the political crisis in Eswatini. It is terrifying to observe the monarch clamp down on the people it is meant to serve and protect. Eswatini as a member of SADC and signatory to its Treaty is bound to uphold Article 4 of the Treaty which explicitly states that the principles guiding the acts of its members are human rights, democracy and the rule of law. Article 5 of the Treaty further requires all states to promote and defend peace and security. SouthernDefenders reminds Eswatini that as a member state of SADC, its government should comply with the principles and guidelines to which the region is bound. The state of affairs in Eswatini is a clear reflection of the failure of the country’s leadership to defend and maintain peace, security and transparency for its citizens. SADC cannot continue to stand by and watch.

We wish to express our heartfelt condolences to Thulani Maseko’s wife Tanele, their children, the Maseko family, and the human rights community in Eswatini. We reassert our support for and uncompromising solidarity with the people of Eswatini in their continued quest for democracy. We call on the greater Africa and its friends to stand in solidarity with us on behalf of Maseko. His unshaken commitment to the achievement of justice and freedom will be our beacon for all time.

We strongly urge the Eswatini government to:

*Immediately allow for an internationally supported, thorough, independent and expeditious investigation into the circumstances of the killing of Thulani Maseko and others killed since 2021, to ensure justice and full accountability.
* Respect, protect and promote the rights of all under the jurisdiction of Eswatini to freedom of expression, association, peaceful assembly and political participation even if they hold opposing views.
*Release all political prisoners and refrain from the excessive use of force to disperse protestors and refrain from the arbitrary arrest, detention, harassment or intimidation of pro-democracy activists and others expressing opposing views.
*Immediately end the violent rhetoric against pro-democracy activists and human rights defenders.
*Immediately allow for an inclusive and genuine political dialogue to usher in a democratic dispensation in Eswatini.

Man Killed For Proposing Love To Minor

By A Correspondent- A 31 year old man was hauled to court for allegedly killing a man who had pr0p0sed l0ve to a 15-year-old girl he stays with.

Obvious Matake was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure.

was advised to approach the High Court for bail application since he is facing a third schedule offence.

He will be back in court on March 1 pending finalisation of investigations.

It is the State’s case that sometime in December last year, the now deceased pr0p0sed l0ve to Rutendo Zinyama, who stays with Matake.

The court heard that Rutendo is the daughter of the deceased’s girlfriend, Mazamanga Elizabeth.

It is alleged that Rutendo told Matake that the deceased had pr0p0sed love to her.

This did not go down well with Matake, who told Rutendo to pretend as if she had accepted his pr0p0sal.

It is further alleged that Matake told Rutendo to lurǝ the deceased into her r00m.

The deceased agreed and entered Rutendo’s r00m. He started undrǝss!ng her, and Matake and Tashinga Mhungu, who is still on the run, budged into the room. It is alleged that Matake and Mhungu accused the man of slǝǝp!ng with the girl’s mother and her at the same time.

They started assaulting him with sticks and bottles.

It is alleged that they took about two hours assaulting the deceased telling him that they wanted to teach him a lesson.

After the long attack, Matake and Mhungu carried the now deceased, who could no longer walk, and dumped him at the cemetery.

He was found lying writhing in agony and was rushed to hospital.

It is alleged that on January 10, his health deteriorated and he was rushed to the hospital by his wife, but he died upon admission.

Matake fled when he saw the police approaching him for the first time, despite them firing a warning shot.

He was later apprehended and detained.

Matake is an ex-convict and the State submitted that he has an unquenchable thirst to commit crime, hence he should not be granted bail.

Meanwhile in another matter, a 37-year-old man also appeared in court facing murder charges.

George Hungwe is being accused of killing a fellow reveller during an altercation.

It is alleged that on December 31 last year, the now deceased bought a bottle of whisky at a shebeen and took another bottle of whisky belonging to another patron and vanished.

The court heard that other patrons followed him to his place and accused him of stealing whisky.

They took him back to the shebeen where he had a misunderstanding with Hungwe, who owns a pool table at the same premises.

It was stated that Hungwe assaulted the man and left him lying on the ground.

The following day, the body of the man was found hanging from the window with a deep cut on the left thigh and foot.

Investigations led to Hungwe’s arrest.

Hungwe denied the charges in court.

“Yes, I understand the charges, but how it transpired is different from what actually happened,” he said.

The magistrate advised him to wait for trial.

Essel Zinhiva appeared for the State.

Abdul Latif Afridi, 79, a vocal critic of the powerful military and a former president of the Pakistan’s Supreme Court Bar Association. He was shot from close range by a colleague dressed in a judicial robe.

“We have arrested the attacker immediately after the attack,” police said. The suspect was identified as Adnan Sami Afridi, a junior lawyer distantly related to late Afridi. He shot the victim six times in the chest and did not flee after the attack. According to police there was a case pending against deceased Afridi alleging his connection in the murder of the father of the attacker.

Abdul Latif Afridi, who served as a legislator in the national assembly from 1997 to 1999, was declared dead at a nearby hospital minutes after the attack.

Osama Malik, a leading Human rights lawyer, told OCCRP that “Afridi’s killing, in broad daylight, within court premises, has shocked the legal fraternity. It is a monumental loss for human rights activists, lawyers and all supporters of democratic norms.”

“He was a mentor to lawyers like me, and we learned a lot from him every time we got the opportunity to meet him,” Malik said. Afridi’s murder is a blow to the country’s human rights activists community, he added.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the killing, saying that Afridi was “a seasoned jurist and a brave politician who was known for his righteousness.”

CCC Female Members Fondled In Prisons Van

By A Correspondent- Lawyers representing 25 members of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) who were arrested last week in Harare’s Budiriro suburb have accused the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services wardens of transporting female prisoners in the same van with male prisoners who are not members of the party, which resulted in the females being fondled along the way.

The lawyers, Wilbert Mandinde, Kudzai Kadzere and Chris Mhike added that one of the accused persons acquired the COVID-19 virus while in prison and has been isolated for 10 days.

Mwonzora To Beat Chamisa In 2023, Own Words

MDC-T president Douglas Mwonzora says he will win the 2023 Presidential election with a 66 percent winning margin.

Speaking on Zimpapers Television Network (ZTN) programme, The Chase, on Thursday, Mwonzora also claimed that his party has a membership of over 500 000. He said:

I am going to contest for the presidency of Zimbabwe, come election time. I am contesting not with the intention to accompany others but with the intention to win.

We are going to garner 66 percent of the Presidential vote, record it, we are going to garner 66 percent.

Mwonzora said the win percentage margin is based on research his team did. He said:

I asked them to do research on the political strategy and should it work, and that is a critical assumption as well, it should generate such a vote.

Since Mwonzora took over the MDC-T presidency in 2020, the party has failed to win a single local government or a parliamentary seat in by-elections held since March 2022.

In the 2018 presidential election, MDC-T candidate Thokozani Khuphe managed just 45 573 votes equivalent to 0.95 percent.

MDC Alliance candidate Nelson Chamisa garnered 44.93 percent of the votes, while ZANU PF candidate President Mnangagwa polled 2 460 463 translating to 51.48 percent of the total votes cast.

By A Correspondent- A Harare man landed in the dock over the weekend for allegedly attempting to rob a family using a toy gun.

Clive Chamanga was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi.

Allegations are that on January 19 at around 7pm, Chamanga and three accomplices still at large went to the complainant’s house and tried to force open the front door.

The complainant and her son Francis Mavhunga unlocked the door and went outside to check who was at the door.

It was alleged that the gang charged towards them with Chamanga pointing the toy gun at them, but the two dashed into the house and locked the door, and alerted neighbours.

Chamanga and his accomplices fled, but one of the neighbours bust Chamanga hiding in a maize field and apprehended him.

He was taken to the police and found in possession of the toy gun.

Pardon Dziva appeared for the State.

Chamisa Deputy In Trust Funds Theft Storm

By- The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) deputy President Welshman Ncube has been dragged to the Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) by Vice-President Phelekezela Mphoko’s son, Siqokoqela for allegedly stealing trust funds.

Prison Officers Accused Of Molesting CCC Women

Lawyers representing 25 members of the opposition CCC who were arrested last week in Harare’s Budiriro suburb said their female clients were molested en route to the Harare magistrates court.

The lawyers accused the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) wardens of transporting female prisoners in the same van with male prisoners who are not CCC members, which resulted in the females being fondled along the way.

The lawyers, Wilbert Mandinde, Kudzai Kadzere and Chris Mhike also alleged that one of the accused persons contracted coronavirus while in prison and has been isolated for 10 days.

Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda ordered the State to investigate the abuse and bring the report to court by Friday.

The CCC members were arrested for allegedly holding a political gathering in Harare without police clearance.

Allegations are that on 14 January 2023, the accused persons responded to an invitation for a meeting at Budiriro MP Costa Machingauta’s house.

Prosecutors submitted that ZRP Budiriro received a tip-off that the accused were gathered illegally and went to investigate.

Upon arrival at the scene of the crime, the police observed that the accused’s conduct was disturbing the peace of a section of members of the public.

The police ordered the accused persons to disperse, but they resisted leading to their arrest. The accused had no lawful excuse to act in the manner they did.

Manhunt For Serial R_apist Targeting Minors

By A Correspondent- Police in Harare have warned residents that there is a serial rapist on the loose in the city’s western suburbs.

The rapist has been breaking into houses and raping girls in Glen View and Budiriro for the past month.

In a statement, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Harare Province, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, said five similar rape cases have been reported. He said:

Police have noted with concern the number of rape cases involving a man targeting minor children for the past month.

The similarities of the cases in how the perpetrator breaks into houses and rapes minor children shows that it’s the same person.

In five cases recorded, the perpetrator broke into houses, threatens the girls and asks if they have engaged in any sexual activities before.

If the girls say no, he rapes them and then flees.

Insp Chakanza appealed for information that may lead to the arrest of the rapist.
He also implored parents to monitor their children.

Said Insp Chakanza:

We are urging parents and guardians to closely monitor children day and night, especially those who sleep in separate rooms from them.

We are also appealing for information from members of the public that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.

Beitbridge Hospital In Flames

By- Fire broke out in the theatre recovery room at Beitbridge District Hospital Monday morning, destroying equipment and infrastructure worth an estimated US$3,5 million and damaging stores in the rest of the 20-room theatre complex.

The hospital is urgently seeking replacement equipment and stores from the provincial hospital in Gwanda so that it can resume work quickly. It normally carries out an average of five small theatre operations a day, including around 30 Caesarian deliveries a month.
The 140-bed hospital is a referral centre for nearly 300 000 residents under the town and the surrounding rural area of the district.
In addition, it caters for close to 15 000 people in transit through the Beitbridge border post daily and scores of patients from neighbouring Gwanda, Mberengwa and Mwenezi districts. The hospital sees 350 babies delivered each month.
Beitbridge District Medical Officer Dr Lenos Samhere said they had sent a list of their requirements to Gwanda for urgent deployment of equipment.
“The situation is very bad, we are now just like an ordinary clinic without a theatre,” said Dr Samhere.
“So, as a stop gap measure we are mobilising equipment from the provincial hospital in Gwanda so that we may in the interim use the small theatre in our out-patients department to handle critical cases.
“With the help of other local technocrats from the Public Works Department, we are investigating the cause of the fire and compiling a bill of quantities on what we would need to get the theatre working again.”
He said besides the theatre equipment and the infrastructure being destroyed, most of the consumables in the 20-room theatre complex were damaged by the smoke.
No one was injured since the medical staff was still preparing the facility ahead of scheduled procedures.
The operating theatre nurse who was the first to notice the fire, Sister Patience Bere, was busy preparing for surgery when she saw some smoke coming from the recovery room.
“I rushed to inspect the origins of the smoke and saw that it was coming from one of the electrical beds in the recovery room. I alerted the hospital management who then called in the fire services department who contained the fire. Fortunately, some patients who had come for surgery were still outside the building and it was easy to move them to a safer place,” she said.
Beitbridge’s Head of Emergency and Fire Services, Mr George Maseko said the cause of the fire was still under investigations although they strongly suspected it was due to an electrical fault.
He said when the firefighters arrived the whole building was engulfed with smoke and it was difficult for them to see where the fire was coming from. But after breaking windows and doors to one of the rooms they saw the source and moved in fast.
“It took us less than seven minutes to contain the fire after picking up its source. However, the theatre recovery room which had several items of delicate equipment was extensively damaged.
“We had to strategically manage the fire so that it could not spread to other 19 rooms within the theatre. You will note that most equipment and consumables were adversely affected by the heat and the smoke.”
The local head of Department of Public Works, Mr Admore Tlou, said they had started working on assessing the structural damages to the building.
He said the fireproof ceiling in the recovery room where the fire had started had slowed down the spread of the fire across the whole buildings. Damaged equipment had already been moved from the theatre building.
A resident of Kwalu 1 suburb, Mr Innocent Mudau said it was critical for the Beitbridge Municipality and the local civil protection committee health cluster to engage their counterparts in Musina over prospects of taking some critical cases for operations south of the Limpopo River.
“We are appealing to authorities to liaise with their colleagues in Musina considering that they are just 12km away. Transporting patients could be easier compared to driving for over 300km to the next facility in Bulawayo,” he said.
Ms Veronica Moyo of Vhembe View Suburb appealed to community members to mobilise resources and facilitate the urgent transport of those patients already at the hospital who need to undergo surgeries.

Mnangagwa Closes 300 NGOs

By- The government has deregistered 291 private voluntary organisations for not submitting their annual returns to the authorities.

Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Paul Mavima told the state media that the PVOs were deregistered for different reasons but mainly because of their failure to submit audited financial statements.

He said:
The reasons for deregistration vary from one organisation to another, but basically, most of them failed to submit the needed annual returns as mandated by the Act.
Typically, you will find that on rare occasions there are issues of national security, but those are very rare.
The main problem was people biting off more than they could chew.
People just register but they do not deliver on their mandate, and also some cannot keep up with the requirements for reporting, and therefore they end up being deregistered.
For example, they say they want to provide services to vulnerable people, maybe children, maybe elderly people.
They bring brilliant ideas, but on implementation, they find that they cannot get the resources that are needed and they cannot keep up with the requirements.
That is to say bring the report on an annual basis, and bring audited financial statements.
As a result, they fail to comply, let alone deliver on the mandate so they end up being deregistered because they have not fulfilled the requirements for registration.
The registrar of the PVOs had earlier announced the cancellation of the certificates of the delisted organisations for not complying with what the Act required. It said in a statement:
The Registrar of Private Voluntary Organisations in conjunction with the Private Voluntary Organisation Board has noted with concern that a number of registered private voluntary organisations are not complying with the prescribed expectations of their operations, as outlined in terms of the Private Voluntary Organisation Act (Chapter 17:05).
Accordingly, the Registrar of Private Voluntary Organisations and the Private Voluntary Organisation Board have therefore deregistered 291 organisations that were found to be non-compliant with the provisions of the Private Voluntary Organisation Act.

Revealed : How Vapositori Tried To Avert Muvhevhi Terror

The Hwedza apostolic church leader who was allegedly killed by former police detective Jaison Muvevi met his death while conducting rituals at his shrine to forestall the tragic events of January 13, his followers say.

Chrispen Kanerusine (48) who was popularly known as Madzibaba Sirage from the Johane Masowe Chishanu Nguwo Chena sect was the first person to be killed by Muvevi in the Negombwe area.

The officer-in-charge of Hwedza police camp Inspector Maxwell Hove (43) and 27-yearold Munashe Majani, who was a barman at Ruzema Bottlestore, Mukamba Business Centre were also shot to death within hours of Sirage’s cold blooded murder. A fellow apostolic sect leader Edison Moyo, also known as Madzibaba Eddie, told Standard People that Kanerusine had prophesied his demise.

“A week before, he prophetically told congregants that he saw a flag at half-mast near the shrine,” Moyo said.

“He said efforts to raise the flag from the half-mast were in vain.”

On the fateful day, some men from a different apostolic sect shrine are said to have made a prophecy about the bloody events at Kanerusine’s shrine.

They allegedly warned the sect’s members to stop attending meetings involving Kanerusine and said blood was going to be shed at the shrine.

The men performed some spiritual divination acts including going around the shrine three times.

“After that, Madzibaba Sirage took over and that is when Muvevi came and shot him dead,” Moyo said.

“If the three men had travelled earlier the death could have been avoided, we could have prayed fervently but like what he had told the people, the flag refused to be raised higher.”

Sect members said Kanerusine was well-known for his “gift” in foretelling the future as well as assisting those with afflictions spiritually.

He was also a trader who, when not at the shrine, would move around villages and business centres selling different wares among them leather belts.- The Standard

ZEC Refuses To Release Electronic Voters’ Roll

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has argued in court that it is within its rights to refuse to issue electronic copies of the voters’ roll claiming recipients can tamper with them.

This comes after a local independent watchdog, Project Vote 263, took the electoral commission to the High Court for refusing to issue them with a soft copy of the roll.

Project Vote 263 contended that it was their decision whether to have a hard or soft copy and that ZEC’s refusal precluded them from participating in election processes because a voters’ roll is a constitutional requirement.

The watchdog argued that Section 21 (3) of the Electoral Act obliges ZEC to offer a soft copy and was unreasonable for them to offer a hard copy, which is quite expensive and voluminous.

Section 21(3) states “the Commission shall within a reasonable period of time provide any person who requests it, and who pays the prescribed fee, with a copy of any ward or constituency voters roll, either in printed or in electronic form as the person may request.”

In their notice of opposition to Project Vote 263’s founding affidavit, ZEC, through its Chief Elections Officer, Utloile Silaigwana, said the request for the soft copy, using Section 21 (3) of the Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13) by the applicant, was incorrect.

“That subsection of the Electoral Act, contrary to the averred position by the Applicant, does not give rise to the absolute rights and immutable obligations expressed by the Applicant’s deponent,” read ZEC’s opposing affidavit

Silaigwana stated that where a voters’ roll is to be furnished in electronic form in terms of, inter alia, Section 21(3), the roll may be formatted so as to prevent it from being altered or otherwise tampered with, and the Respondent can impose reasonable conditions on the provision of the roll to discourage it from being used for commercial or other purposes unrelated to an election.

According to the Electoral Act Section 21(7) –”Where a voters roll is provided in electronic form in terms of subsection (3), (4) or (6), its format shall be such as allows its contents to be searched and analysed: Provided that-

(i) the roll may be formatted so as to prevent its being altered or otherwise tampered with;

(ii) the Commission may impose reasonable conditions on the provision of the roll to prevent it from being used for commercial or other purposes unconnected with an election.”

These “reasonable conditions,” as emphasized by ZEC, do not imply a refusal to provide a soft copy of the voters’ roll, as the electoral commission is required to ensure that the copy of the voters’ roll is in such a format.

According to ZEC’s statement, the commission has concerns and must employ Section 21(7) to address them.

“The effect of Section 21(7) is to expand the mandate of the respondent under section 20 of the electoral act that is the mandate to keep and maintain voters roll, to include a mandate to ensure that those rolls that are kept and maintained in electronic form are I a form that does not permit alteration of any form of tampering and to formulate conditions that prevent the misuse of the voters roll. These are all legitimate and legislated obligations of the respondent,” said ZEC.

To demonstrate its concerns, ZEC cites breaches by an online team of data analysts known as Team Pachedu, which exposed a number of anomalies in the voters’ roll, warning that they could lead to another disputed election in 2023.

ZEC also cites the Cyber and Data Protection Act (Chapter 12:07) in supporting its decision not to release the voters roll, claiming provisions of Sections 13 and 18 of same act impose obligations upon the commission, “as a repository of millions of Zimbabweans personal data and information, to ensure that the data is protected from negligent or unauthorised destruction, negligent loss unauthorised alteration or access and any other unauthorised processing of the data.”

However regional framework on elections and data protection, for instance the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights guidelines on access to information and elections in Africa says, “the voters’ roll must be provided with the necessary details, such as full name, identity number, photograph (where it exists), gender and age of each voter and any subsequent amendments to this information.

Last year in November, ZEC charged US$187 000 for a hard copy of the voters’ roll after the Election Resource Centre (ERC), an independent election watchdog, gave the commission seven-day ultimatum to release the document.-Cite.org.zw

IT Boss Takes Away $28mln

THE owner of a Zimbabwean company selected by FBC Holdings to renew the security licence for its emails allegedly took the advance payment of almost $28 million needed to push the transaction through the auction system and spent it.
Morden Niche Digital Consulting and its director Mark Tanyaradzwa Maraire yesterday appeared at the Harare magistrates court on allegations of defrauding FBC Holdings of $27 857 850.

Maraire and his company were not asked to plead to the charges when they appeared before magistrate Mrs Evelyn Mashavakure, who remanded them to February 16.

Maraire is the majority shareholder of Modern Niche Digital Consulting Africa Private Limited and the sole signatory to the company’s bank account, the State alleges.

On August 11 last year, FBC engaged Maraire and his company for renewal of the bank’s email security licence. The court heard FBC Holdings was satisfied that Maraire’s company was registered as partners of Proof Point, the British company that provides the licence. The deal was done well in time as the FBC lience was due to expire in September last year.

Maraire and his company allegedly quoted $27 857 850 but needed prepayment. On October 14 FBC Holdings transferred $27 857 850 into Morden’s FBC Bank account for an application to the Reserve Bank auctions and pay for Proof Point security system services to be made. The auction system requires applicants to have the local currency in their bank account, and to supply the invoice so that the foreign currency is transferred to the foreign payee.

But when the money flowed into the Morden account, Maraire did not apply for foreign currency at RBZ as expected, but instead allegedly converted all the money to his own use. -stat media

Govt Collapses 291 NGOs

Stat media- Most of the 291 private voluntary organisations recently deregistered by the Registrar of Private Voluntary Organisations had not bothered to submit their annual returns as required by the Private Voluntary Organisations Act, Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Professor Paul Mavima has said.
These returns and, for those raising money from donors for their work, audited financial statements are required so that everything is above board, genuine PVOs are able to continue doing their needed and valuable work, and vulnerable communities are not manipulated by self-seekers after donor funds.

Prof Mavima said the PVOs were deregistered for varying reasons, chief among them being departing from the mandate on which they were registered, failure to submit audited financials as per the dictates of the law and annual reports of their work.

“The reasons for deregistration vary from one organisation to another, but basically most of them failed to submit the needed annual returns as mandated by the Act,” said Prof Mavima.

“Typically, you will find that on rare occasions there are issues of national security, but those are very rare.

“The main problem was people biting off more than they could chew.

“People just register but they do not deliver on their mandate, and also some cannot keep up with the requirements for reporting, and therefore they end up being deregistered.”

“For example, they say they want to provide services to vulnerable people, maybe children, maybe elderly people. They bring brilliant ideas, but on implementation they find that they cannot get the resources that are needed and they cannot keep with the requirements.

“That is to say bring the report on an annual basis, bring audited financial statements. As a result they fail to comply, let alone to deliver on the mandate so they end up being deregistered because they have not fulfilled the requirements for registration,” said Professor Mavima.

In an earlier statement, the registrar of the PVOs announced the cancellation of the certificates of the delisted organisations for not complying with what the Act required. The reports are not onerous, but include the need to list all executive or committee members and detail any financial transactions. Some organisations quietly collapse during the year and the degregistration simply removes these from the lists.

“The Registrar of Private Voluntary Organisations in conjunction with the Private Voluntary Organisation Board has noted with concern that a number of registered private voluntary organisations are not complying with the prescribed expectations of their operations, as outlined in terms of the Private Voluntary Organisation Act (Chapter 17:05),” said the statement.

“Accordingly, the Registrar of Private Voluntary Organisations and the Private Voluntary Organisation Board have therefore deregistered 291 organisations that were found to be non-compliant with the provisions of the Private Voluntary
Organisation Act.”

The organisations were asked to go to the office of the Registrar of Private Voluntary Organisations and surrender their certificates.

The number who failed to follow the basic requirements of the Act are a small percentage of those who are registered, most of which routinely year after year send in the annual returns, and when those who run them decide there is no longer a useful purpose for the organisation they wind it up properly, close the bank accounts and tell the registrar what they have done. -state media

Cleric Slams Mnangagwa Regime

Ziyech To Leave Chelsea ?

Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech is reportedly pushing for his exit at Chelsea before the transfer window closes next week.

The Moroccan international has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge after struggling to find consistent form since his arrival from Ajax in 2029. He has had an underwhelming 2022-23 campaign thus far, managing just one assist in 14 appearances in all competitions.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, the Blues are ready to to letting Ziyech leave and have offered him to Barcelona as part of their attempts to sign Kessie this month.

Reports in Italy have also linked the star with AS Roma, as he is now considered the ideal replacement for Nicolo Zaniolo.

The Serie A side is said to be in contact with Ziyech’s agent

Muvhevhi Horror : Madzibaba Predicted Own Death

SA-Based Zim Couple Dies Soon After Wedding

By-A South African-based Zimbabwean couple perished in a car crash in South Africa just 11 days after tying the knot back home.

Shadreck Masuku (40) and Thabitha Mbambo (26) exchanged their wedding vows on 27 December 2022 in Bulawayo and died in a car accident in South Africa on 7 January 2023.
The couple, alongside Thabitha’s sister, Nkosinothando Sibanda (42), died on the spot following a car accident at Kranskop, Limpopo Province.
An unknown friend of the couple who had asked for a lift also died in the accident.
The couple’s one-year-11-month-old daughter was critically injured and left fighting for her life at a South African hospital.
Former ZBC presenter Ezra “Tshisa” Sibanda speared efforts to raise funds to bring Nkosinothando’s body back home as she had no funeral policy.
Three hearses led hundreds of people to the Umvutsha Cemetery in Bulawayo, where the trio was laid to rest.
Sithabile Tshabangu, a representative of the Mbambo family, said it was a tragedy to lose the two siblings at once. She said:
The two girls are my sister’s daughters. They were, however, brought up by their grandmother, who is my mother. We never thought we would lose them like this and at once.
The couple had just gotten married and was preparing for their traditional wedding which was supposed to take place in April.
We are deeply wounded as a family to have buried them today.
A resident from Entumbane only identified as MaNdlovu said news of the two sisters’ death came as a shock. She said:
The two girls were inseparable. Even when they were growing up, we would see them together everywhere.
It is sad they had to end up dying together. We also greatly lost as a community because they were our children.

Police Deny Bashing CCC Lawyer

By-The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said they did not beat up a human rights lawyer, Kudzayi Kadzere, attending to some members of the opposition CCC who were arrested and detained at Budiriro 2 Police Station on Saturday, 14 January 2023.

In a statement, ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Kadzere jumped off a moving police vehicle and sustained injuries. Reads the statement:

CLARITY BY THE ZIMBABWE REPUBLIC POLICE ON ALLEGATIONS OF ASSAULT ON LAWYER, KUDZAYI KADZERE

The Zimbabwe Republic Police wishes to set the record straight and clarify the exact position with regards to allegations of assault on lawyer, Kudzayi Kadzere by police officers.

It is a fact that the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)’s Costa Machingauta convened an unsanctioned gathering at house number 9293 Mvumba Crescent, Budiriro 5A, Harare.

The local Zimbabwe Republic Police station received information and reacted to the scene.

Police Officers observed that nearly 500 supporters had gathered for the meeting clad in their party regalia.

The supporters had blocked Mvumba Crescent, Dehwe Road, Magodo Road and Budiriro OK Rank.

This affected the movement of motorists and other members of the public who wanted to pass through.

The police officers engaged Costa Machingauta to disperse the supporters.

However, there was open resistance, with supporters chanting obscene and derogatory songs to the police officers.

In the process, the CCC youths went on to damage the doors of a certain house as they resisted arrest and allegedly stole a cellphone.

Twenty-four supporters were arrested. Costa Machingauta escaped arrest and later on handed himself to the police on 18th January 2023.

Suddenly Kudzayi Kadzere appeared on the scene in a private vehicle and clashed with the Police Reaction Group members who were taking the suspects to Budiriro Police Station.

Kudzayi Kadzere was then arrested for contravening section 46 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23. He was then put in the police truck.

In a bid to resist arrest, Kudzayi Kadzere jumped off the police truck. He sustained an injury on the right hand.

Police officers rearrested Kudzayi Kadzere and took him to Budiriro Police Station.

On arrival at the police station Kudzayi Kadzere openly declined to lodge a report against police officers.

He insisted that he was not assaulted by the police officers during the misunderstanding. Kadzere was then released to seek medical attention.

On the 15th of January 2023, Kudzayi Kadzere came back to Budiriro Police Station and had his warned and cautioned statement recorded.

On 17th January 2023, Kudzayi Kadzere changed his mind. He made a report of assault and theft at Budiriro Police Station.

This is despite the fact that he had initially declined to make a police report on the 14th of January 2023. The case is now under investigation.

It is clear that the information given to CCC members and later posted on social media platforms is tailor-made to suit a certain agenda whilst ignoring the real facts on the ground.

Kudzayi Kadzere knows the truth about what actually transpired between him and the police officers.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has engaged Kudzayi Kadzere from 14th January 2023 up to the time he decided to change his mind.

The public should take note that, what Kudzayi Kadzere said to the police and the information which he is allegedly giving to the media, his peers and CCC leadership are not consistent.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police reaffirms its readiness to interact and engage members of the legal fraternity in an open and transparent manner without facts being twisted to suit various agendas.

Zimbabweans Remember Tuku

By-The music fraternity today celebrates the legacy of the late music superstar Oliver Mtukudzi four years after his death.

Tuku, as the late icon was affectionately known internationally, died of diabetes at Avenues Clinic on 23 January 2019 aged 66.

One of the most celebrated Zimbabwean musicians ever, Mtukudzi’s glittering career spanned nearly four decades with 67 albums under his belt.

His daughter Selma took to microblogging site Twitter to remember her father. She said:

“4 years since you left dad, we miss you dearly.”

Gospel musician Mathias Mhere wrote on Facebook:

“Four years ago on this day, we lost a legend. Dr Oliver Mtukudzi, continue to rest in peace baba vedu, our hero. Ndakaita rombo rakanaka ndikaimbawo song navo.

Veteran broadcaster Ezra Sibanda described Tuku as a legend whose legacy goes beyond music.

He wrote on Facebook:

“It’s been 4 years since you left us Nzou. No amount of time can heal the sorrow of your passing away. It’s hard to accept the fact that you aren’t here anymore. Not a day goes by that you don’t cross my mind. You left this world for long years ago, but your memories are still fresh in our minds. The great legendary and iconic musician Oliver Mtukudzi was not only a musician but a humanitarian, a unifier and sought to strengthen his community through deeds as well as music. May you rest peacefully in heaven.

Mtukudzi was declared a national hero and was buried in his Maziwa rural home.

ZEC Drops Exposed Election Rigging Plot

By-The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has admitted that it will revise the disputed l delimitation report.

ZEC is now under pressure to revise the report, which should be ready by mid-February in line with Constitutional provisions.

Speaking at State House last week after receiving from President Emmerson Mnangagwa Parliament’s report on the preliminary delimitation report, Chigumba said:

The President called us today for him to formally hand over the report approved by Parliament, which was written by the ad-hoc committee, which was formed by Parliament.

We have received the report and we have assured him that we will have a look at all of the recommendations and concerns which were raised by Parliament.

In terms of the way forward, we are still to receive corrections from the President himself which we anticipate he will do in the course of next week, and thereafter, we will gather as a commission and look at all of the recommendations holistically and look at those we can accede to and those we cannot accede to and we will compile our report for His Excellency where we will state our reasons for acceding to certain recommendations and perhaps not acceding to some.

The Parliamentary ad-hoc committee made several recommendations that it wants ZEC to address. Some of the recommendations are:

  • ZEC should take into account the entire population as shown in the census, not just the adult population because wards serve other purposes apart from elections.
  • ZEC should revisit boundaries where it did not take into account community interests between voters.
  • ZEC should ensure that there is an equal number of voters in constituencies and wards, with variations limited to 20% as required by section 161 of the Constitution.
  • ZEC should apply consistent principles when transferring voters from constituencies and wards with large numbers of voters to those with fewer.

Chelsea To Offload Ziyech

Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech is reportedly pushing for his exit at Chelsea before the transfer window closes next week.

However, that move is strictly dependent on Zaniolo’s departure.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

What Is Cervical Cancer?

Key facts

Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women globally, with an estimated 604 000 new cases and 342 000 deaths in 2020. About 90% of the new cases and deaths worldwide in 2020 occurred in low- and middle-income countries (1).

Two human papillomavirus (HPV) types (16 and 18) are responsible for nearly 50% of high grade cervical pre-cancers
HPV is mainly transmitted through sexual contact and most people are infected with HPV shortly after the onset of sexual activity. More than 90% of them clear the infection eventually.

Women living with HIV are 6 times more likely to develop cervical cancer compared to women without HIV.

Vaccination against HPV and screening and treatment of pre-cancer lesions is a cost-effective way to prevent cervical cancer.
Cervical cancer can be cured if diagnosed at an early stage and treated promptly.

Comprehensive cervical cancer control includes primary prevention (vaccination against HPV), secondary prevention (screening and treatment of pre-cancerous lesions), tertiary prevention (diagnosis and treatment of invasive cervical cancer) and palliative care.

Overview
Worldwide, cervical cancer is the fourth most frequent cancer in women with an estimated 604 000 new cases in 2020. Of the estimated 342 000 deaths from cervical cancer in 2020, about 90% of these occur in low- and middle-income countries. Women living with HIV are 6 times more likely to develop cervical cancer compared to women without HIV, and an estimated 5% of all cervical cancer cases are attributable to HIV (2). Moreover, in all world regions the contribution of HIV to cervical cancer falls disproportionately on younger women.

In high-income countries, programmes are in place which enable girls to be vaccinated against HPV and women to get screened regularly and treated adequately. Screening allows pre-cancerous lesions to be identified at stages when they can easily be treated.

In low-and middle-income countries, there is limited access to these preventative measures and cervical cancer is often not identified until it has further advanced and symptoms develop. In addition, access to treatment of cancerous lesions (for example, cancer surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy) may be limited, resulting in a higher rate of death from cervical cancer in these countries.

The high mortality rate from cervical cancer globally (age standardized rate among women: 13.3/100 000 in 2020) could be reduced by effective interventions at different stages of life.

HPV and cervical cancer
A large majority of cervical cancer (more than 95%) is due to the human papillomavirus (HPV).

HPV is the most common viral infection of the reproductive tract. Most sexually active women and men will be infected at some point in their lives, and some may be repeatedly infected. More than 90% of the infected populations eventually clear the infection.

Cervical cancer is by far the most common HPV-related disease. Nearly all cases of cervical cancer can be attributed to HPV infection.

Although most HPV infections clear up on their own and most pre-cancerous lesions resolve spontaneously, there is a risk for all women that HPV infection may become chronic and pre-cancerous lesions progress to invasive cervical cancer.

It takes 15 to 20 years for cervical cancer to develop in women with normal immune systems. It can take only 5 to 10 years in women with weakened immune systems, such as those with untreated HIV infection.

Cervical cancer control: a comprehensive approach
The Global strategy towards eliminating cervical cancer as a public health problem, adopted by the World Health Assembly in 2020, recommends a comprehensive approach to cervical cancer prevention and control. The recommended actions include interventions across the life course.

Cleric Challenges Church Leaders To Denounce Zanu PF Barbarism

Gvt Ties With China

By A Correspondent- The Government looks forward to continuing its close ties with China to further consolidate the bilateral cooperation between the two nations, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Monica Mutsvangwa, has said.

In a speech at the Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations, she said the new season offers an opportunity for the nations to solidify the strong bond of friendship and solidarity that exists between the two countries and people.

“Allow me to take this opportunity to profoundly express my appreciation of the excellent bilateral relations that exist between Zimbabwe and the People’s Republic of China.

“As you may be aware, Zimbabwe-China relations were elevated from ‘all weather friend’ to “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership”, to appropriately reflect the depth of our relations which date from the period of our liberation struggle.

“Over the past few years, we have witnessed increased investments in Zimbabwe by the Chinese Government and Chinese companies,” she said.

Minister Mutsvagwa said the Chinese Government and business community have transferred technical expertise and created employment opportunities for tens of thousands of Zimbabweans.

“The investments have helped to increase the country’s Gross Domestic Product and volume of exports. I cannot over-emphasize the contribution that Chinese companies have made towards boosting production in the economy and in the same vein transforming the livelihoods of Zimbabweans.

“The investments have been buttressed by the successful completion of several projects in a number of fields, including mining, agriculture, infrastructure development, energy and the environment.

China has also assisted Zimbabwe with human resource development through provision of scholarships for Zimbabwean students to study in China.

“This has seen our nationals being trained in companies such as the Chinese tile factory in Norton and the Onsen Iron and Steel Company in Manhize,” she said.

Mliswa Exposes Zanu PF Projects Ahead Of Elections

By-Norton MP Temba Mliswa (Independent), has exposed Zanu PF projects which emerge a few days before elections.
.
Mliswa claimed that Zimbabwe’s political arena “has become a field of dull people” who really do not care about the welfare of the people.
The former Zanu PF Mashonaland West chairman identified Democratic Union of Zimbabwe (DUZ) leader, Robert Chapman and the former leader of the Alliance for People’s Agenda (APA) Nkosana Moyo as some of the politicians who emerged out of nowhere with nothing to offer.

Below is Mliswa’s full thread on Twitter:
It’s unfortunate for us as a country when clowns continuously emerge from bushes on the eve of elections and start showering the public with effervescent nonsense about what they will do when they win.
Do these people understand that politics is about people’s lives?
That’s why our politics, in Parliament and Councils, has become a field of dull people some of whom don’t even know what is going on.
It’s all a game to them they have no serious regard for the interests of the people. But as happens in anything, a clown will also get followers.
Politics is about power& wealth distribution. If we are a people who continuously entertain adventurists, flexing their middle-age fantasies, where are we going?
Serious politicians should be looking to maximize where there is strength to provide a formidable alternative.
Somebody like @DrivenChapman has never been a Councilor or MP, jets in from the blue, has no party & no structure, and starts promising to rule the country.
How do we entertain such characters seriously if serious about our country? It’s all a pastime to him& he knows it himself!
Dr Nkosana Moyo had a mile better political portfolio and emerged just like this. How did he perform?
It shows the futility of such middle-aged expeditions. It’s a waste of time, people’s hopes, and an obscene ridicule of the efforts of all those in the trenches for long.
Politics isn’t a circus. Of course, you can be a clown & have an audience of your own happy clappers.
It’s like POLAD. Filled with Chapmans. What has it achieved? Zilch. It’s a waste of taxpayers’ money.
They have abused their democratic right to be a burden on the whole nation.

Robert Chapman Is A Clown, Says Mliswa

By A Correspondent| Norton legislator Temba Mliswa has ripped into new kid on the bloc Robert Chapman who fronts the Democratic Union of Zimbabwe (DUZ) saying he is a clown just emerging from the bush without an understanding of politics.

In a Twitter thread, Mliswa says Zimbabwean politics is now filled with dull people who take it as a game yet is about people’s lives.

“It’s unfortunate for us as a country when clowns continuously emerge from bushes on the eve of elections and start showering the public with effervescent nonsense of what they will do when they win. Do these people understand that politics is about people’s lives?

“Politics is about power& wealth distribution. If we are a people who continuously entertain adventurists, flexing their middle age fantasies, where are we going? Serious politicians should be looking to maximize where there is strength to provide a formidable alternative,” said Mliswa.

He urged Zimbabweans not to entertain Chapman saying he has never held a public office but promises to rule the country.

“Somebody like @DrivenChapman has never been a Councilor or MP, jets in from the blue, no party& no structure, and starts promising to rule the country. How do we entertain such characters seriously if serious about our country? It’s all a pastime to him& he knows it himself,” added Mliswa.

South African Mercenaries Accused Of Killing Eswatini Rights Lawyer

Former South African legislator Phumzile Van Damme has revealed that she has a detailed list of South African mercenaries who were allegedly hired by Eswatini leader King Mswati to assassinate human rights lawyer Thulani Maseko.

Maseko, a human rights lawyer, was shot dead on Sunday night at his home in Luyengo, Eswatini.

Van Damme has since the let the cat out of the bag saying she has classified information on the people behind Maseko’s murder.

He was also a columnist who had a pending court battle with King Mswati III over the move to rename the country Eswatini by decree.

The human rights lawyer also chaired the Multi-Stakeholders Forum (MSF), a collaboration of political parties and civil society groups working to amplify calls for democratic reforms.

‘Captured ZEC Is An Appendage Of Zanu PF’

Civil society organisations have accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa of refusing to implement electoral reforms in order to gain an unfair advantage in this year’s hamornised elections.

The claims were made at a meeting hosted by the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) last week to discuss the delimitation process and the environment ahead of the polls.

Mnangagwa last week handed over Parliament’s report on the delimitation preliminary report by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec), which has raised controversy because of alleged shoddy work.

“Zec remains captured and continues to work as an appendage of Zanu-PF and this points to discredited elections in 2023,” the groups said in a communiqué.

“In some areas of the country there has been a deliberate attempt to frustrate potential voters and a huge number of citizens remain disenfranchised.

“Electoral reforms remain a pipe dream in Zimbabwe with the country’s elections failing to meet guidelines of the African Charter on Elections, Democracy and Governance (ACDEG).

“The CSOs indaba noted that issues relating to the technical aspects and the general political environment point to yet another flawed election that will certainly fail the credibility test and thus result in yet another legitimacy crisis in Zimbabwe.

They added: “Zimbabwe is yet to implement recommendations from previous electoral observer missions including recommendations of the Motlanthe Commission of inquiry relating to the conduct of credible elections.”

The CSOs said Zec’s preliminary delimitation report pointed to a “flawed” process that may lead to unsatisfying election results. They also accused Zec of attempting to rig elections in favour of the ruling Zanu-PF party.

“Issues around access to the voters’ roll point to a deliberate attempt to rig the 2023 elections and expose the collusion between Zec and Zanu-PF. There is a deliberate attempt by the state to entrench authoritarianism and move towards a one-party state,” the organisations added.

“In light of the above-mentioned challenges, the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition shall continue with mobilisation efforts at the grassroots level to empower citizens to demand free, fair and credible polls. This includes ensuring citizens reject a flawed process with pre-determined outcomes.

“The Coalition shall intensify advocacy campaigns at regional and international levels and this also includes pushing for long-term observer missions ahead of the 2023 elections.”

Mnangagwa’s Poor Human Rights Record Riles International Rights Group

Southern African leaders have come under sharp criticism in the Human Rights Watch (HRW) 2023 report, with claims that they have failed to address the abuse of civilians.

The report, which was released on Thursday, cited the refusal of Eswatini’s King Mswati III to engage in dialogue, South Africa’s failure to protect migrants, Mozambique’s ongoing conflict with insurgents in Cabo Delgado, and Zimbabwe’s lack of meaningful steps to uphold rights.

Last year, Eswatini continued to experience pockets of resistance from pro-democracy activists calling for the king’s removal from southern Africa’s last absolute monarchy.

In 2021, the king was brought to the negotiation table by President Cyril Ramaphosa to agree on a national dialogue.

At the time, Ramaphosa was chairperson of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

In principle, the king agreed. But along the way, he found a way to remove Eswatini from SADC’s agenda.

“In April (2022), the king removed Eswatini from the agenda of the SADC Organ’s Troika meeting where the national dialogue was supposed to be discussed. The July SADC extraordinary summit was postponed without further notice due to the unavailability of Eswatini, which was on the agenda,” HRW said.

The non-governmental organisation cited this as the highlight of Eswatini’s failure to address the ongoing human rights crisis.

Eswatini will hold Tinkhundla elections this year, an electoral system that serves as a form of governance on the basis of traditional administrative subdivisions.

But the Mass Democratic Movement (MDM), under the Swaziland Multi-Stakeholder Forum, adopted the eBundu Declaration at a two-day gathering in Mpumalanga, South Africa in December last year to outright reject and boycott the elections.

Mwonzora Says He Will Beat Chamisa And Mnangagwa In Presidential Elections Race

Mwonzora Dreams Of Occupying State House

By-Opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) leader, Senator Douglas Mwonzora, has declared himself the unanimous winner of the yet-to-be-held 2023 Presidential election, claiming he will get the keys to the State House with a 66 percent winning margin.
Speaking on Zimpapers Television Network (ZTN) program, The Chase, on Thursday, Sen Mwonzora also claimed his party has a membership of over 500 000.
“I am going to contest for the presidency of Zimbabwe, come election time. I am contesting not with an intention to accompany others but with an intention to win,” he said.
“We are going to garner 66 percent of the Presidential vote, record it, we are going to garner 66 percent.”
Sen Mwonzora said the percentage margin is based on a number of postulations that his research team did.
“I asked them to do research on the political strategy and should it work, and that is a critical assumption as well, it should generate such a vote,” said Mwonzora whose party has since 2022 recalled 165 councilors and 32 legislators.
He said while it was hard to say with certainty how many members his party has, when he was secretary general of the party in 2020, the figure was at 560 000.
“I think we are plus or minus that figure,” said Sen Mwonzora.
In the 2018 elections, MDC-T, then led by Dr Thokozani Khuphe managed just 45 573 votes equivalent to 0,95 percent while the ruling party candidate, President Mnangagwa garnered 2 460 463 translating to 51,48 percent of the total votes cast.
Mr Nelson Chamisa’s Movement for Democratic Change Alliance (MDC-A) accounted for 44,93 percent of the votes.

Gold Dealer Linked To Zanu PF Forced To Close ‘Death Trap’ Mine In Penhalonga

Zanu PF benefactor and prominent gold dealer Pedzisai Scott Sakupwanya’s gold operations at Redwing Mine in Penhalonga, Manicaland province, have been closed by the Environmental Management Agency (Ema) following reports of numerous fatal accidents involving artisanal miners.

Sakupwanya through his company Better Brands Mining has been defying Ema’s directive to stop operations until civic groups threatened to picket at the mine.

In a joint statement yesterday, the Centre for Research and Development (CRD), Ziva Community Empowerment Trust, and Penhalonga Youth Development Ratepayers Trust claimed  that 100 artisanal have died at Sakupwanya’s mine since 2020.

Sakupwanya is a key Zanu PF member and is expected to finance the ruling party’s 2023 election campaign.

He has also been previously pictured with President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House.

Sakupwanya has become the biggest gold dealer in the country amid reports that he was using his close links with the First Family.

He is also the ruling party’s councillor for Mabvuku-Tafara in Harare.

NewsDay is in possession of a letter written by Better Brands dated January 20, 2023, confirming the company’s decision to halt operations in compliance with Ema’s directives.

“Better Brands hereby advises its valued stakeholders that all surface mining operations shall be suspended with immediate effect due to the concerns about the increased number of fatalities, and environmental degradation.

“Better Brands Mining shall take this opportunity to restructure and rehabilitate the mining field in preparation for the resumption of surface and underground mining,” the letter read.

But CRD director James Mupfumi said the temporary stoppage was meant to hoodwink the world into believing that Sakupwanya respects the rule of law.

“It is a temporary ban meant to fool the country from demanding accountability. It has happened twice with lies on promises to return to safe mining practices. We are approaching the government and Parliament to summon Better Brands.

“If the government fails to heed our call, we are approaching the United Nations (UN) human rights to express our concern on government’s failure to protect citizens from militia mining that is taking place at Redwing Mine. Zimbabwe is a signatory to the UN on the sanctity of human life and government protection,” Mupfumi said.

George Charamba Continues To Stalk Chamisa

By A Correspondent| President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s trusted lieutenant George Charamba continues to stalk opposition Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson Chamisa while abandoning his duty to speak on behalf of his boss.

In one of his social media posts, Chamisa promised a ‘new great Zimbabwe’ while showing a picture of a road interchange.

But Charamba could not let it go without commenting, accusing while opposition led councils of failing to provide basic services in urban areas.

This is despite the fact that Local Government minister July Moyo has literally rejected every developmental project proposed by opposition led municipalities while imposing dubious investors like Dellish Nguwaya on the cash-strapped city.

Chamisa wrote; “Imagining a different Zimbabwe. In a New Great Zimbabwe, its possible. It’s doable.”

Charamba described Chamisa’s dream as un-achievable.

“Selling an illusion; the bane of an incompetent opposition and unthinking opposition supporters who forget Zimbabwe has no seafront; has an incompetent opposition which has ruralised our cities and towns,” said Charamba.

Madzibaba Foretold His Death

By A Correspondent- The leader of an apostolic sect in Hwedza who was allegedly killed by former police detective Jaison Muvevi on 13 January this year had reportedly foretold his death.

Chrispen Kanerusine (62), who was popularly known as Madzibaba Sirage from the Johane Masowe Chishanu Nguwo Chena was shot dead at point-blank range while ministering to his congregants at his shrine.

A fellow apostolic sect leader Edison Moyo, also known as Madzibaba Eddie, told The Standard that Kanerusine had prophesied his death. He said:

A week before, he prophetically told congregants that he saw a flag at half-mast near the shrine.

He said efforts to raise the flag from half-mast were in vain.

Moyo said on the fateful day, some men from a different apostolic sect shrine made a prophecy about the bloody events at Kanerusine’s shrine.

They allegedly warned the sect’s members to stop attending meetings involving Kanerusine and said blood was going to be shed at the shrine.

The men are said to have performed some divination rituals including going around the shrine three times. Said Moyo:

After that, Madzibaba Sirage took over and that is when Muvevi came and shot him dead.

If the three men had travelled earlier the death could have been avoided, and we could have prayed fervently but like what he had told the people, the flag refused to be raised higher.

Those who frequented Madzibaba Sirage’s shrine said he had a gift for foretelling the future as well as assisting those with afflictions spiritually.

They said besides exercising his spiritual gifts, Madzibaba Sirage would move around villages and business centres selling different wares among them leather belts.

He was buried on 18 January 2023 at his homestead in the Negombwe area in Mukamba village.

Hopewell Chin’ono Embarrasses Mnangagwa, Sources 50 Dialysis Machines From UK

By- Journalist Hopewell Chin’ono, has secured 50 dialysis machines for Zimbabwe from one of his contacts based in the United Kingdom.

Dialysis machines are artificial kidneys that perform most, but not all, kidney functions for patients with permanent or temporary renal failure.

According to an online source, the machines use hemodialysis to cleanse the blood and balance its constituents.

Posting on Twitter this Sunday, Chin’ono said he received a call from a Zimbabwean lady working for the British public health system, the National Health Service (NHS), saying she wants to give 50 dialysis machines to Zimbabwe. Said Chin’ono:

I got a phone call from a Zimbabwean lady working for the British @NHSEngland in Birmingham managing dialysis machines.

She has 50 machines that she wants to give to Zimbabwe.

Harare Council and other councils run by the opposition can get these machines to save our people.

Harare City Council has 12 Polyclinics that can be turned into part dialysis centers.

The council then only buys dialysis machine consumables, and Zimbabweans living with kidney disease can live normal lives again.

This requires competent councillors and mayors in cities.

Our people are dying yet these machines are affordable going for as little as USUS$8 000.

Chin’ono, a critic of the government, has over the past few years been exposing the rot in the country’s public health delivery system.

In 2020, he was arrested after he exposed the looting of public funds in the procurement of COVID-19 test kits and other medical sundries.

Nakamba Remains In Wilderness

Aston Villa coach Unai Emery has snubbed Marvelous Nakamba in his matchday squad for the Premier League game against Southampton this evening.

Nakamba, who is yet to play this season, will watch the encounter from the stands.

The snub comes just a day after Emery revealed that he told the midfielder to look for a new club in this transfer window.

“In other positions as well we are speaking about how we can improve, some players like (Marvelous) Nakamba, I told him to leave,” the gaffer said in his pre-match press conference.

Elsewhere in the EPL, it’s a different story for Jordan Zemura, who will bag his twelfth EPL start for Bournemouth this season.

The Warriors international has been named in the Cherries’ starting XI versus Nottingham Forest, marking his return to the team after sitting out in the last two league games.

Kick-off for both games is at 5 pm CAT and live action will be available to watch on DStv’s SuperSport TV.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Muvhevhi Terror: Fresh Details Emerge

Jaison Muvhevhi
FORMER police detective, Jaison Muvevi — who is accused of killing three people in Hwedza last week and trying to kill two others — is facing a fourth murder charge after he allegedly shot and killed another person at a Harare car sales last November.

Detectives probing last week’s shootings established that Muvevi (42) could have been behind the November 19, 2022 killing of Nyarai Round in Eastlea, Harare, as the suspect apparently used the same weapon in the commission of the Hwedza offences.

Muvevi yesterday appeared in court facing four counts of murder and two of attempted murder after he also shot and injured a police officer in Hwedza before shooting at another man in Mutare whom he narrowly missed.

He was not asked to plead to the charges when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Evelyn Mashavirakure, who remanded him in custody to February 6.

Muvevi was advised to approach the High Court for bail application.

According to the State, Muvevi killed Round (33) of Domboshava, Chrispen Kanerusine (48) of Wedza, the officer-in-charge of Hwedza Police Camp Inspector Maxwell Hove (43) and 27-year-old Munashe Majani, who was a barman at Ruzema Bottlestore, Mukamba Business Centre, Wedza.

Muvevi allegedly attempted to kill Tendai Mugova, a police officer at Wedza Camp and Raphael Nyahwema at Mutare Boys High School where he was seeking food as he sought to escape to Mozambique.

It is the State’s case that on November 19 last year at around 9:30pm, Nyasha Eusen was in the company of Round at Clan Court in Eastlea, Harare.

It is reported Muvevi approached the pair and withdrew his pistol and shot Round once on the head for no apparent reason.

Nyasha Eusen tried to run away, but was caught before being forced into a Toyota Allion sedan.

Muvevi then drove to Huruyadzo Shopping Centre in St Mary’s, Chitungwiza, with two other men.

The court heard that Eusen managed to escape.

On January 13 this year, at around midday, Kanerusine, who was the leader of Johanne Masowe eChishanu Apostolic Church, was at the church shrine with other congregants.

Muvevi arrived in the company of Shupikai Muvevi and was ushered into the shrine by senior church members, who gave him a white wrapping cloth to cover himself since his dress code was deemed inappropriate for the shrine.

Muvevi joined other congregates while Kanerusine was preaching.

After two minutes, Muvevi stood up and proceeded to his car and fetched a gun.

He allegedly hid it under the garment before he shot Kanerusine in the head, forcing other congregants to flee.

Muvevi then sped off from the scene.

The matter was reported to ZRP Wedza where the late Insp Hove was the officer-in-charge.

Hove mobilised a team of police officers and left ZRP Wedza for Negombwe Village to attend the scene.

As the police officers were driving along Wedza-Murambinda Road, they spotted Muvevi parked at the 25km peg talking to an unidentified man.

Police officers blocked his vehicle and as they were disembarking from the car, Muvevi opened fire and shot Hove thrice in the head while he was seated in the passenger seat.

He also allegedly shot Detective Constable Tendai Mugova three times on the pel_vis and abdomen, leaving him seriously injured, according to the charge sheet.

Other police officers ran away for their dear lives, leaving the two lying on the ground.

The fleeing police officers are said to have dropped an FN rifle with a magazine and 10 rounds and a CZ pistol.

Muvevi then drove to Mukamba Business Centre where he went to Ruzema Bottle Store.

He then saw Majani seated outside the bar in the company of Given Pambeni and Tinashe Musangano.

Muvevi is said to have called Majani and had a brief chat with him before shooting him.

Muvevi is said to have sped off heading towards Mutare.

On January 14, he went to Mutare Boys High School where he confronted Nyahwema and fired three shots towards him after he refused to give him food. He missed him.

Muvevi then skipped the border into Mozambique where he was arrested on January 15 before being sent back to the country.

Man Invents Application That Tracks A Cheating Partner

A world without the excruciating heartache and vital-organ-shattering devastation of discovering that your partner whom you l0vǝd with every fibre of your being, was just whiling away time with you as they were in other relati0nships.

That world may not be so far away following the launch of the Bae Tracker App.

All in the name of the Biblical seventh commandment of God, which goes ‘Thou Shalt Not Commit Adul_tǝry’, Walter Mbano (31) from Pumula South suburb launched the app to deal with umj0l0, the pandemic that has led to an upsurge in depression and suicide cases.

Telling B-Metro about the app, Mbano said Bae Tracker helps people track cheat!ng partners before investing in a relati0nship.

“The application uses phone authentication to sign up. It then gives you an option of searching where you add your partner’s particulars that entail their full name, surname, age and date of birth. The information is stored on the application’s data base.

“If anyone searches for your registered partner on the application, it sends you a notification. It then provides a platform where you pay a fee to have a chat with that person on the app and find out how they are related to your bae,” said Mbano.

Information about the app on Google Play Store reads: “an app to find out if bae is loyal. The app helps you to track who claims to date your boyfriend or girlfriend or who has a crush on them…”

Mbano said the motivation behind designing the app was that umjolo has become a problem that needed to be addressed.

“What inspired me is that l identified umjolo as a societal problem where a number of people invest so much in a relationship only to discover that their partner is cheating.

“This app helps whenever you start a relati0nship, as you are able to search if your partner is in a relati0nship or not. It solves a lot of problems,” said Mbano.

A Bulawayo couple Munashe and Charlyn Zengeni, who are already signed up for the app said the development will ensure accountability in relati0nships.

“I think the app is quite interesting and fascinating. If people join in, it will lead to faithful relati0nships as it ensures that you give some form of accountability. We need to look at the bigger picture of this app, it’s fun and exciting and more exciting if you are faithful.

“This is going to be revolutionary to relati0nships and society as relationships will be restored and mended. We will have healthier relationships, less heartbreaks and reduction of suicide cases,” said Munashe.

Charlyn said she hoped the bae tracker will provide an option of uploading pictures soon.

“I am also hoping that in the future bae tracker is going to have more options like all the tech apps. We are going to upload pictures of our partners and get advice on relationships,” she said.

A sceptic who declined to be named said fake relati0nships were better left unexposed as bringing them to light could lead to bloodshed.

So far, the newly launched app that is rated suitable for people aged above 12 years has no reviews on play store.

Arnold Nhema

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Arnold Nhema, a man who was incredibly kind, compassionate, gentle, and loving. Arnold was taken from this world far too young at the age of 43 and leaves behind his loving wife Vee and his beautiful children Munashe, Ryan, Tadiwa and many, many friends, co-workers, and extended family members.

At the time of his passing, Arnold had been working as a Registered Nurse in the United Kingdom while his family remained in Canada. Originally from Zimbabwe, Arnold and his wife Vee lived in the United Kingdom for many years and were trained as Registered Nurses there prior to moving to Calgary, Canada with their three children in 2018. The past 5 years have been difficult for their family as they have worked tirelessly to become licensed as RNs in Canada. Arnold worked as a long-haul truck driver to make ends meet and travelled back and forth to the UK for weeks at a time to keep his nursing hours up. Meanwhile, Vee remained in Canada navigating a difficult and frustrating process to obtain her own nursing license, which required her to relocate to Kelowna, BC where she now lives with her 3 children. Arnold was expected to return home to Canada for good on Monday, January 23, 2023, as he and his wife would finally have finished their nursing licensure in Canada and begin the next chapter in their lives. Sadly, it was not meant to be.

Arnold began to feel unwell the week of January 9th, 2023, with mild respiratory symptoms. He last spoke with his family on Friday and the following morning he was admitted to the hospital through the Emergency Department. Within 24 hours he was transferred to the ICU. He rapidly became unstable and was deemed unsuitable for transfer to the Royal London Hospital. He passed away peacefully in the ICU a day later with his wife and children mourning his tragic loss half a world away.

Given that Arnold’s untimely death crosses international borders, this has become a very challenging process for Vee, her children, and Arnold’s extended family who are spread across the world in Australia, Canada, the UK, and Zimbabwe. In addition to the personal loss, there is a significant financial loss, and we want to help Vee and her children during this difficult time. Vee continues to work towards obtaining work as an RN; however, this process has now been interrupted by Arnold’s passing as Vee focuses on funeral arrangements and her children’s needs. Their support networks remain largely based out of Calgary since they had only just moved to Kelowna in July of 2022.

Please prayerfully consider donating to this precious family in memory of a man who was loved by many and missed by all. Above all, please keep this family in your prayers and reach out to them personally if you feel prompted to as they begin to pick up the pieces of their life and move forward.

No Respite For Nakamba

Brazil To Appoint New Coach

Brazil Football Confederation (CBF) has reportedly identified the top candidates that have the potential to take over the national team following Tite’s exit.

The 61-year-old Tite stepped down as the Selecao boss following their shock quarter-final exit at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

For the past month, the South American giants have been linked with several names that include Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti and French gaffer Zinedine Zidane.

According to UOL Esporte, as cited by Goal.com, the CBF has come up with a shortlist and the football body’s president Ednaldo Rodrigues – who is in charge of appointing the national team coach – is due to travel to Europe in the coming week to meet prospective coaches.

Among those being courted include former Spain and Barcelona coach Luis Enrique.

Rodrigues will also meet Ancelotti despite the Italian gaffer insisting that he intends to honour his long-term contract with Los Blancos.

Roma manager Jose Mourinho is also on the list and will be considered for the job.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Effective Malaria Prevention Methods

Key facts

Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes.

It is preventable and curable.

In 2021, there were an estimated 247 million cases of malaria worldwide.
The estimated number of malaria deaths stood at 619 000 in 2021.
The WHO African Region carries a disproportionately high share of the global malaria burden. In 2021, the region was home to 95% of malaria cases and 96% of malaria deaths. Children under 5 accounted for about 80% of all malaria deaths in the Region.
Overview

Malaria is an acute febrile illness caused by Plasmodium parasites, which are spread to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. There are 5 parasite species that cause malaria in humans, and 2 of these species – P. falciparum and P. vivax – pose the greatest threat. P. falciparum is the deadliest malaria parasite and the most prevalent on the African continent. P. vivax is the dominant malaria parasite in most countries outside of sub-Saharan Africa.

The first symptoms – fever, headache and chills – usually appear 10–15 days after the infective mosquito bite and may be mild and difficult to recognize as malaria. Left untreated, P. falciparum malaria can progress to severe illness and death within a period of 24 hours.

In 2021, nearly half of the world’s population was at risk of malaria. Some population groups are at considerably higher risk of contracting malaria and developing severe disease: infants, children under 5 years of age, pregnant women and patients with HIV/AIDS, as well as people with low immunity moving to areas with intense malaria transmission such as migrant workers, mobile populations and travellers.

Disease burden
According to the latest World malaria report, there were 247 million cases of malaria in 2021 compared to 245 million cases in 2020. The estimated number of malaria deaths stood at 619 000 in 2021 compared to 625 000 in 2020.

Over the 2 peak years of the pandemic (2020–2021), COVID-related disruptions led to about 13 million more malaria cases and 63 000 more malaria deaths.

The WHO African Region continues to carry a disproportionately high share of the global malaria burden. In 2021 the Region was home to about 95% of all malaria cases and 96% of deaths. Children under 5 years of age accounted for about 80% of all malaria deaths in the Region.

Four African countries accounted for just over half of all malaria deaths worldwide: Nigeria (31.3%), the Democratic Republic of the Congo (12.6%), United Republic of Tanzania (4.1%) and Niger (3.9%).

Prevention
Over the last 2 decades, expanded access to WHO-recommended malaria prevention tools and strategies – including effective vector control and the use of preventive antimalarial drugs – has had a major impact in reducing the global burden of this disease.

Vector control
Vector control is a vital component of malaria control and elimination strategies as it is highly effective in preventing infection and reducing disease transmission. The 2 core interventions are insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) and indoor residual spraying (IRS).

Progress in global malaria control is threatened by emerging resistance to insecticides among Anopheles mosquitoes. As described in the latest World malaria report, other threats to ITNs include insufficient access, loss of nets due to the stresses of day-to-day life outpacing replacement, and changing behaviour of mosquitoes, which appear to be biting early before people go to bed and resting outdoors, thereby evading exposure to insecticides.

Preventive chemotherapies
Preventive chemotherapy is the use of medicines, either alone or in combination, to prevent malaria infections and their consequences. It requires giving a full treatment course of an antimalarial medicine to vulnerable populations (generally infants, children under 5 years of age and pregnant women) at designated time points during the period of greatest malarial risk, regardless of whether the recipients are infected with malaria.

Preventive chemotherapy includes perennial malaria chemoprevention (PMC), seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC), intermittent preventive treatment of malaria in pregnancy (IPTp) and school-aged children (IPTsc), post-discharge malaria chemoprevention (PDMC) and mass drug administration (MDA).

These safe and cost-effective strategies are intended to complement ongoing malaria control activities, including vector control measures, prompt diagnosis of suspected malaria, and treatment of confirmed cases with antimalarial medicines.

Vaccine
Since October 2021, WHO also recommends broad use of the RTS,S/AS01 malaria vaccine among children living in regions with moderate to high P. falciparum malaria transmission.

The vaccine has been shown to significantly reduce malaria, and deadly severe malaria, among young children.

South Africa Follows Zimbabwe, Adopts Permanent Load-Shedding

By-South Africa’s power utility, Eskom, has announced that it would permanently implement load-shedding for the next two years.

Eskom chairperson, Mpho Makwana, said power cuts between Stages 2 and 3 are planned for the next two years.

Makwana said this will create “some predictability” and allow the power utility enough room to perform maintenance and increase the Energy Availability Factor (EAF) enough to put an end to load shedding within the next two years. Said Makwana:

The global average for EAF is about 86%. We’re looking to grow from our current 58% EAF to 70% in the next two years.

The planned journey to 70% is hoped to take place on the following timeline:

  • 60% EAF — end-March 2023
  • 65% EAF — end-March 2024
  • 70% EAF — end-March 2025

The outgoing Eskom CEO, Andre de Ruyter, said the possibility of Stage 8 load shedding is receding but an “inherent risk” remains. He said:

The possibility of stage 8 load-shedding is receding, which is comforting and positive.

However, there is always an inherent risk, and for that purpose, we have to protect our diesel reserves.

Eskom Chief Operating Officer, Jan Oberholzer, said 43% of the utility’s electricity-generating units are currently offline due to breakdowns and planned maintenance. | My Broadband
