Harare Pre-Budget Meetings Marred By Poor Turnout

City of Harare pre-budget consultative meetings have been marred by poor turn out prompting the city officials to re-schedule the meetings.

In Mufakose Ward 34, the meeting which was held Saturday 3 September at Area “A” Community Hall only saw 16 people attending. The low turnout saw the City officials, Councilor and residents agreeing to postpone the meeting to the 11th of September 2022.

On the other hand, in Highfields Ward 26 fifty-six (56) people attended yesterday’s meeting. Residents attributed the low turn out to back to school preparations, agricultural show and timetables that are not sensitive to religious practices.

“You cannot have a meeting on a Sunday and expect full participation, everyone knows that Sunday is a church day,” said a Highfields resident after the meeting.

Meanwhile the Combined Harare Residents Association will soon embark on a mobilization drive for the Budget Consultative Meetings this week in a bid to ensure representation of issues and full participation of residents at the budget meetings.

CHRA encourages all residents to participate at the pre-budget consultative meetings in their respective Wards, as the budget processes are key in determining service delivery priorities and scrutinize council expenditure towards service provision.

BREAKING: William Ruto Declared 5th Kenyan President

Kenya Supreme Court has upheld the election of William Ruto as country’s fifth president throwing out Raila Odinga’s petition.

“We’re satisfied that [electoral commission] carried out verification, tallying and declaration of results in accordance with constitution,” judges say in response to Raila Odinga petition.

ZEC Commits To Address Complaints Over Nomination Fees

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) says it will address complaints raised by political parties and individuals on the recent increase in nomination and accreditation fees.

Zec recently amended Statutory Instrument 53 of 2014 to declare the cost of fielding a presidential candidate was now US$20 000 up from US$1 000,US$1 000 from US$50 for aspiring legislators, US$200 from US$100 for senators and councillors from US$50 to US$100.

This raised concerns that the fee structure will block potential candidates from participating in future elections.

Some opposition political parties and aspiring candidates have protested against the electoral management body’s decision.

Obey Shava wrote a letter on behalf of Harare North legislator Allan Markham protesting against the increases, while opposition figure Egypt Dzinemunhenzva has also taken a legal route.

Zec deputy commissioner Rodney Kiwa told Shava that the election management body will soon meet to consider the complaints and requests.

“The contents thereof have been noted, we shall revert to you once the matter has been deliberated upon by the full commission,” Kiwa said.

With the new fees, some political parties have expressed fears that they may fail to participate in next year’s elections.

Gweru Councillors Block Mnangagwa’s Freedom Of The City Award

City of Gweru councillors are locked in a bitter fight over honouring President Emmerson Mnangagwa with a ‘Freedom of the City’ award.

Mayor, Hamutendi Kombayi (MDC-T) has been pushing to have the Zanu-PF leader granted the status but the move has been blocked by Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) councillors.

Councillor Josiah Makombe, who is a former mayor, is among the lead opponents of the proposal, arguing that Mnangagwa “is not worthy of any recognition as he has run the country down”.

“The mayor and councillors from MDC-T wanted to give ‘Freedom of the City’ to Mnangagwa which we resisted. We resisted it on the basis that as a community, as a city, and as citizens of Gweru, there is nothing to emulate in Mnangagwa’s leadership,” said Makombe.

“Mnangagwa has not done anything that is worthy for the citizens. Anyone who is given the freedom award would have served exceptionally in that city.

“The accolade is an honour given to that kind of person and to us there is nothing tangible which Mnangagwa has done that points to him as having done something for the people of Gweru,” he said.

The ex-CCC mayor added that the city was battling serious service delivery challenges, among them water shortages, potholed roads and uncollected garbage.

“In terms of service provision, there is nothing,” he argued.

“We are one of the worst cities in terms of refuse removal. He (Mnangagwa) is the one presiding over the economy which is bad, he is the one presiding over the country where people are suffering,” he said.

Mnangagwa hails from Midlands and regarded as the provincial godfather.

He then gave the girl a glass of water to drink water

After consuming the water, the girl then started to feel dizzy and could hardly see.

After some time, the girl is said to have woken up after she heard someone knocking and trying to open the door.

It is the State’s case that the girl saw Kafurira putting on his trousers and fastening the belt.

The girl is said to have noticed that she had been partially undressed and was feeling pain.

After committing the offence, Kafurira told the girl to dress up and leave the room.

The girl told close family members what had happened, leading to her lodging a police report.

Masisi Slammed Over Anti Sanctions Remarks In Zim

Opposition Botswana Congress Party (BCP) has slammed President Mokgweetsi Masisi’s blind calls for scrapping of sanctions imposed against Zimbabwe by the west while ignoring what brought the measures in the first place.

Addressing hundreds of Zanu PF supporters who thronged the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport to welcome him and his entourage Thursday, Masisi demanded the scrapping of sanctions which he said were tantamount to an act of sanctions against his own country.

The Botswana leader, with President Emmerson Mnangagwa on his side, said, verbatim: “Botswana continues to call for the removal of sanctions against Zimbabwe… We just came from our elective congress, and ZANU PF was represented very well…. The two ruling parties have relations, we are friends.”

However, his comments were received with consternation by opponents back home, who chastised their state leader for allegedly forgetting he was in fact on a state visit to Zimbabwe.

In a hard hitting statement Sunday, BCP Information and Publicity Secretary Mpho M. Pheko said his party was surprised at the partisan nature of Masisi’s welcome.

Read BCP Full Statement Below;

The Botswana Congress Party (BCP) is concerned by the insidious comments made by President Mokgweetsi Masisi during his recent State Visit to Zimbabwe.

Our indignation is resultant from President Masisi’s irresponsible commentary which utterly disregards the prevailing political and economic situation engulfing our neighbors.

The following are his words, captured verbatim: “Botswana continues to call for the removal of sanctions against Zimbabwe… We just came from our elective congress, and ZANU PF was represented very well…. The two ruling parties have relations, we are friends.”

President Masisi’s visit to Zimbabwe was a State visit, the BCP is therefore surprised at the partisan nature of his welcome, which is a foreign practice in the conduct of international relations, especially those of a sovereign nation.

President Masisi’s attempt to absolve ZANU PF and President Emmerson Mnangagwa from the Zimbabwean crisis is not only an affront and insult to the suffering people of Zimbabwe, but it is also an attempt to revise history in the most deceptive way. It is similar to convincing us that Idi Amin was an honorable man.

The fact is, the sanctions are only targeted at designated people in Zimbabwe, who are key members of the Mugabe regime, including Mnangagwa. How this affects the economy of Zimbabwe is yet to be explained. President Masisi must confide in Batswana before he tells the world that he speaks on their behalf.

We call upon the Government of Zimbabwe to introduce the necessary reforms that will allow for true democracy to thrive.

Repression of political opponents and intimidation of those that challenge the ZANU PF regime should be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

Instead of focusing on President Mnangagwa’s personal problem of sanctions, we pray the two must provide economic reliefs to Zimbabweans at home to scale down economic migrants in other countries.

Mnangagwa must stop repressive actions against citizens of Zimbabwe whose only crime is to offer alternative voice and express their democratic rights.

Provide a solution to the continuing cases of cattle rustling between the two countries. (Also required is) for the two to deliberate on democratic reforms that among others, would allow Zimbabweans in diaspora to participate in their country’s electoral processes, without having to cross borders.

The BCP believes that Zimbabwe can be better, and while the economic situation in Zimbabwe has trickle-down effect down south, blaming targeted sanctions, without resolving the above points, is not in the interest of an ordinary Zimbabwean.

Having noticed decline of democracy and the disregard of the rule of law in Botswana under the BDP government, the BCP hopes that the budding friendship between BDP and ZANU PF will not further undermine democracy in the two countries.

Yours Comradely,

Mpho M. Pheko

BCP Information and Publicity Secretary

ZOCC Sets Up Provincial Structures- 25 Members Elected

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Online Content Creators (ZOCC) has successfully established provincial structures after 25 members were elected to represent the association across the country’s 10 provinces.

According to article 1, section 4 of the ZOCC constitution, the provinces are called chapters and are defined by the geographical landscapes.

The 25 members were elected and endorsed to represent five (5) chapters – Northern, Southern, Eastern, Midlands and Central chapters as enshrined in the association’s constitution.

Meanwhile, Harare content creators are however not part of the chapter leadership due to their huge numbers and local influence, hence can only be represented in the upcoming national executive election, while Chitungwiza and areas around are represented under the central chapter.

These chapters cover the whole nation and are mandated to drive the interest of all members (both existing and potential) towards growth, capacitation and strengthening of the association.

This democratic gesture is aimed at achieving our internal devolution of power which gives full autonomy to various chapter leadership, to make key decisions affecting their areas of influence.

The chapters’ leadership are also mandated to recruit, capacitate and support local membership as they feed into the national structures.

As part of its mandate to capacitate its membership, ZOCC will in the coming weeks host the first chapter training under UNESCO and another joint partnership with Postal and Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) at national level.

These will kickstart many upcoming programs which will be focusing on professionalizing and capacitating all members of the association across the nation.

ZOCC is an association comprised of more than 180 active online content creators who have ultimate copyrights to their content. These include bloggers, vloggers and Social Media practitioners animators and digital creatives who are guided by a digital media code of ethics, which they all must abide to.

The recently elected leadership are as follows:

Northern Chapter:

Chapter director : Sheperd Chabata

Deputy director: Kudakwashe Vhenge

Chapter secretary: Alice Umali

Chapter organizer : Marsha Sengwe

Programs manager : Spanyoge Madziwa

Central Chapter:

Sikhala Poisoned In Remand Prison

By- Prison officials Sunday invited the family of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislator Job Sikhala at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison, asking for urgent help over suspected poisoning in his prison cell.

Sikhala, who has been arrested on several occasions, was said to be vomiting and the prison officials summoned the legislator’s family to bring a private doctor for urgent treatment.
The Zengeza West legislator’s aide Frederick Masarirevhu told NewsDay that Sikhala’s wife was called by prison officials over a suspected case of poisoning.
“It’s true, Sikhala is not okay. I spoke with his wife and she informed me that the legislator has been vomiting and we are in touch with doctors for urgent assistance.
“Mrs Sikhala is currently on her way to Chikurubi Maximum Prison and a team of doctors is expected to follow. This is surprising considering that I had an hour-long conversation with him on Saturday. From what I hear, he is not in good shape and we wait to hear the exact condition from the medical team,” Masarirevhu said.
Sikhala’s lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa confirmed the incident, but said she was out of the country.
No further information was made available at the time of going to print.
“That is what I have been told, but I have not seen him because I am out of the country,” Mtetwa said.

NewsDay contacted the ZPCS officials who failed to respond by the time of going to print.
Sikhala, who is the CCC vice-national chairperson, human rights lawyer and legislator, was arrested on June 14 after violence broke out in Nyatsime, Chitungwiza, during the funeral wake of Moreblessing Ali, a CCC activist who was killed by a suspected Zanu PF activist, Pius Mukandi Jamba.
Sikhala is in prison for allegedly inciting unrest and defeating the course of justice.
The State alleges that he posted a video on social media that was intended at misleading the police who were investigating the death of Ali.
He was arrested alongside Godfrey Sithole, a CCC MP for Chitungwiza North and 13 party activists.
The charge of obstructing the course of justice were levelled against him when he was already in remand prison.
He has applied for bail five times without success.

Malema Intensifies Pro-Zimbabwe Support Campaign

By- The Economic Freedom Fighters leader, Julius Malema, has told party members to avoid becoming part of the narrative that Zimbabwean nationals are stealing jobs from South Africans.

Speaking at an EFF provincial conference in Klerksdorp, North West, on Sunday, Malema said EFF members should focus on the land issue and occupy strategic economic positions instead of yearning to be employed by white people. Said Malema:
Today, you are fighting with Zimbabweans. You are all fighting to be negros. You are fighting to work for a white man.
You are not fighting for the land. All of you to join forces together against Zimbabweans. What’s wrong? No, they are taking our jobs. Why? Because you want to be workers.
You don’t want to be the owners of strategic sectors of the economy. All you are fighting for is jobs. Who is going to give you these jobs? It’s a white man.
You are all fighting to work for a white man and you are proud of fighting to work for a white man. Why should you fight people for jobs?
We should fight people for the land and that we want our land because, with our land, we will not be workers.
We will be the owners of the land and we will produce for ourselves and for all.
Malema’s speech comes after Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi granted Zimbabwe Exemption Permit (ZEP) another six months to regularise their stay in South Africa.
Meanwhile, Operation Dudula, an anti-immigrant group in South Africa, said the extension of ZEPs is an insult to South Africans.
Operation Dudula’s Kwena Molekwa said they can’t continue to feel sorry for Zimbabweans considering that almost half of South Africans are unemployed.

Structureless CCC Defeats Zanu PF

Yesterday, structureless Citizens Coalition for Change heavily defeated structured Zanu PF in Bulilima by elections

As Zanu PF cabinet members bus Zanu PF supporters to vote in Bulilima by elections

As Highfield East CCC members celebrate victory against Zanu PF

Wezhira Munya

Zanu PF lost in Bulilima for the first time since 1980. Under able leadership of President Chamisa CCC break Zanu PF dominance in Bulilima.

Popular President Chamisa’s party Citizens Coalition for Change defeated Zanu PF and other parties in Bulilima by elections yesterday.

Congratulations , Amhlope and Makorokoto to CCC.

President Chamisa has congratulated CCC candidates , CCC supporters and voters in Bulilima for winning yesterday by elections.

Dr. Thokozani Khupe, ward 4 Bulawayo urban councillor Anorld Batsirai Dube and other CCC leaders who were leading mugwazo and campaign in Bulilima deserve great appreciation for a job well done for working hard to defeat Zanu PF in rural Bulilima.

Also, Bulilima CCC leaders did a super job for mobilizing and recruiting people to vote for CCC.

All Bulilima voting stations had vigilant CCC election agents who protected votes.

In yesterday’s by elections Citizens Coalition for Change won 2 wards out of three and Zanu PF won one ward.

Following are the elections results duly announced by ZEC:
ward 16 won by CCC female candidate Moyo Makhadi with 131 votes, defeating Zanu PF candidate Moyo Jane 118votes and Ncube Hitman ZAPU with 34 votes. 50, 35% voted in this by election.

Ward 1, was also won by President Chamisa’s party. CCC candidate Ephraim Moyo won with 385 votes defeating Zanu PF candidate Ndlovu K. Phapha with 315 votes, Moyo Dalton of PPP with 12 votes and Nyoni Lindiwe with 7 votes.

50, 80% total votes casted.

Lastly, Zanu PF won ward 14: Dube Experience with 459 defeating CCC candidate Moyo Ephraim with 332 votes and Moyo Linos ZAPU with 18 votes.

53, 24% voted.

Zanu PF lost ward 16 for the first time since 1980 to opposition. CCC candidate Moyo Makhadi broke 42year history by win this ward.

This is a great loss to Zanu PF because in 2018 Zanu PF won these three wards.

It’s Citizens Coalition for Change 2 and Zanu PF 1.

The narrative that rural areas are Zanu PF stronghold was nullified yesterday after Bulilima rural voters rejected Zanu PF president Mnagangwa and his Zanu PF candidates.

Yesterday Zanu PF cabinet ministers Evelyn Ndlovu and Dingumi Phuti tried to rig by elections through busing people to vote at Malalume Secondary School. Interestingly, the bused voters end up voting for Citizens Coalition for Change candidates.

Zanu PF cannot win elections without using violence. In Bulilima there was no violence and Zanu PF lost. Contrary in Gokwe- Kabuyini Zanu PF used violence to win this parliamentary seat few weeks ago.

The once mighty MDC T party under Mwonzora failed to field candidates in Bulilima. Mwonzora has presided the death of MDC T party that defeated Mugabe in 2008. MDC T is now a laughing stock under Mwonzora.

On the other story, CCC winning Highfield East Member of Parliament Eric Murai and Highfield East CCC members are holding by election victory celebrations in Zimbabwe Grounds today.

Hon Eric Murai and CCC councillors defeated Zanu PF in March 2022 by elections.

Botswana Police Tortured Me

A Zimbabwe man, Prosper Mabureki, is claiming unlawful detention and harassment at the hands of Botswana police over a crime that he did not commit.
Mabureki told the media that he was repeatedly tortured while his phone was confiscated during his 48-hour detention on July 18 and 19, 2022.

His crime was being a friend to one of the gang members arrested by Botswana police on armed robbery allegations.

“I am guilty by association,” Mabureki said, who has all the legal paperwork needed to live in Botswana.

Mabureki’s troubles came after the arrest of four Zimbabwean nationals on July 17, 2022 in Tatisiding.

Police in Botswana had arrested the quartet, Donald Casper Sibanda (38), Leaviet Ian Ndlovu (32), Rodrick Mutaurwa and Michelle Monica Mangisi (21) following a raid at a house.

They found two unlicensed guns and live ammunition.

The three men were later be charged for a robbery that took place in Francistown on March 18, 2022.

Mabureki told the media that when police found his contacts on one of the suspects’ phones, they tracked him down to his house in Tatisiding.

“I wasn’t home. They found my wife, who gave them my number and eventually I reported to the police. When I arrived, they immediately handcuffed me because I had admitted knowing Rodrick.

“I could not deny knowing him because I do. I don’t necessarily subscribe to his life choices, but he’s my homeboy and family friend,” Mabureki said.

Relating his 48-hour ordeal inside the cell, Mabureki said the police accused him of having played a part in the crimes committed by the quartet.

Francistown Central Police Station commander, Lebalang Maniki told the media that he was not aware of the matter. -Newsday

Magistrate Jailed Over USD20

Former Karoi magistrate Amanda Muridzo and clerk of court Shelter Kachirika have each been sentenced to an effective one year in prison after they were convicted of taking a US$20 bribe to tilt a maintenance claim in favour of a defendant.
The defendant, David Mazowi, will join them in prison for an effective six months for paying the bribe.

Muridzo and Kachirika were each sentenced to 18 months in jail when they were convicted by Harare regional magistrate Mrs Bianca Makwande for bribery.

But Mrs Makwande set aside six months of the terms for five years on condition they do not commit a similar offence within that period.

Mazowi had a larger slice of his sentence suspended. He was initially jailed for 12 months before also having six months suspended on condition of good behaviour.

The trial also marked the widening of prosecutions, whereby those who pay bribes are seen by the law as guilty as those who receive them.

Agreed facts are that on August 27, 2018, Sinafi Chidoko, former wife to Mazowi, filed an application for a maintenance order for herself and two minor children she had with Mazowi.

The claim was for US$250 monthly maintenance and the case was set down for hearing on September 11, 2018.

During that same month, prior to the maintenance claim hearing, Mazowi and Kachirika met and agreed to try and get Muridzo to favourably determine the maintenance case in favour of Mazowi.

Kachirika approached Muridzo and sold the plan.

When the application was heard on September 11, 2018, Muridzo granted the maintenance claim, but reduced the amount to US$50 from the US$250, which was sought by Chidoko.

On October 1, 2018, Mazowi filed an application against Mrs Chidoko and Muridzo again ruled in his favour. On October 2, 2018, Mazowi sent Kachirika US$20 by Ecocash and Kachirika then transferred all the money to Muridzo.

An anonymous caller told Mrs Chidoko that money was changing hands between her ex-husband and the court and that she would never win a case against Mazowi.

She reported the matter and investigations followed, and they revealed that there were indeed cash transactions among the three. -Herald

Sikhala Falls Seriously Ill In Jail

By Farai D Hove | The incarcerated Zengeza West MP Job Sikhala has fallen seriously ill in prison.

“Witchcraft” Haunts Nyanga Family

A family in Nyamahumba Village, Nyanga has been experiencing mysterious happenings for the past few months, with snakes and lizards appearing out of nowhere whenever they prepare their meals.

In February this year, the family brought the matter before Acting Chief Saunyama’s court where it was alleged that the family’s patriarch, Sekuru Johannes Nyamahumba’s money-making charms are behind the family’s misfortunes. He, however, is denying the allegations.

Matthew Nyamahumba told The Manica Post that his brother, Sekuru Johannes Nyamahumba, should pay what he owes to the person who gave him the charms so that their problems will go. He said:

All the traditional healers we have consulted have told us in Mukoma Johannes’ presence that he is the culprit behind all this. He is supposed to pay what he owes to the person who sold him the charms.

He even confessed and promised to pay the spiritual healer with some of his cattle. However, when we went back home, he moved his cattle to an unknown place behind our backs

That is when the situation worsened. The reptiles started multiplying. Our homestead is now infested with reptiles and can be seen everywhere, including in pots on the stove as we prepare food.

They are also in our bedrooms and in my baby’s napkins. This is terrifying. We often have to throw away the food that we will be preparing because of the reptiles.

We are being forced to share our homes with these reptiles because we have nowhere else to go. We are suffering because of our brother, Johannes’ greediness.

He acquired lucky charms and failed to pay the supplier. I have lost my child because of this. My brother, Lovemore, also lost a child recently, but Johannes keeps dilly-dallying on paying the spiritual healer. We fear that the whole family will be wiped out.

Acting Chief Saunyama said Sekuru Nyamahumba is yet to pay the fine for defiling the area and the spiritual healer he owes. He said they will have to wait until he changes his mind.

Sekuru Nyamahumba was in default when the family appeared before the traditional court last week on Friday.

When he previously appeared before the same court, Sekuru Nyamahumba denied that he was behind the family’s misfortunes. He said:

Matthew’s son was electrocuted after climbing on an electricity pole. How can this be wizardry?

There was no electricity when he climbed the pole but the supply was restored before he had descended the pole. They now accuse me of causing his death.

I am innocent and want my good reputation in society to be restored. I am prepared to appear before any traditional healer or spiritualist to clear my name which is being dragged in the mud.- Manica Post

” Son Accuses Me Of Bedding Drinking Mates”

After the death of her husband two years ago Grace Ngwenya’s life took a turn for the worst. Her son, Trymore Ngwenya has been tormenting her. Whenever he is from a booze, he makes noise and brands her a pr0stitute.

He does not stop at that as he would hurl insults at her and threaten to poison her and her grandchildren. Grace said efforts to talk to her son have been in vain because Trymore does not want to have a word with her.

Sadly, when she engages him, an argument always ensues and he would beat her and even threaten to set her on fire in her sleep.

These threat have caused her much fear, forcing her to dash to Western Commonage Court to apply for a protection order.

In her affidavit she said: “I’m applying for a protection order against my son who is tormenting me because whenever he is from a booze, he accuses me of being involved in s3_xual affairs with my drinking mates. I have tried by all means to tell him that I’m not in love with them but he does not believe me.

“He insults me by calling me a pr0stitute and when I try to explain to him he beats me up and he even threatened to poison me and my grandchildren as such I fear that he will kill me. I pray that the court will grant me a protection order.”

The presiding magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube granted the troubled Grace a protection order. Trymore was ordered to desist from physically and verbally abusing his mother.

Put More Effort, Zwane Tells Billiat

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has urged Khama Billiat and other attackers in the squad to pull their socks up and be consistent in helping the team to perform well.

Amakhosi dropped points on Saturday after playing a 0-0 draw against AmaZulu.

The Soweto giants missed several chances that could have stopped them from going two league games without a win.

“I think we didn’t have that killer instinct. Yes we did create enough chances you know but we were not clinical enough one,” Zwane told SuperSport TV, as cited by Goal.com.

“Two, I think we started very slow and I believe if we put them under pressure from the first whistle we were gonna get one.

“And you could see with (Kgaogelo) Sekgota, we needed consistency with that, we needed ‘Ash’ (Ashley du Preez) to do more of that and Khama (Billiat) as well.”

Billiat is yet to score this season and has only made one assist in his seven appearances.-Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

He reduced Chippa’s deficit today while they were trailing 1-3 in the 67th minute when he pounced on a spill by the Arrows goalkeeper and fired home.

What Is Poliomyelitis?

Poliomyelitis (polio) is a highly infectious viral disease that largely affects children under 5 years of age.

The virus is transmitted by person-to-person spread mainly through the faecal-oral route or, less frequently, by a common vehicle (e.g. contaminated water or food) and multiplies in the intestine, from where it can invade the nervous system and cause paralysis.

In 1988, the World Health Assembly adopted a resolution for the worldwide eradication of polio, marking the launch of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, spearheaded by national governments, WHO, Rotary International, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), UNICEF, and later joined by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. Wild poliovirus cases have decreased by over 99% since 1988, from an estimated 350 000 cases in more than 125 endemic countries then to 175reported cases in 2019.

Of the 3 strains of wild poliovirus (type 1, type 2 and type 3), wild poliovirus type 2 was eradicated in 1999 and no case of wild poliovirus type 3 has been found since the last reported case in Nigeria in November 2012. Both strains have officially been certified as globally eradicated. As at 2020, wild poliovirus type 1 affects two countries: Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The strategies for polio eradication work when they are fully implemented. This is clearly demonstrated by India’s success in stopping polio in January 2011, in arguably the most technically challenging place, and polio-free certification of the entire WHO Southeast Asia Region in March 2014.

Gvt To Recruit Over 2.9k Headmasters, Deputies

By A Correspondent- The Government is set to recruit 2 988 headmasters and deputies to fill primary and secondary school vacancies in a massive recruitment drive set to improve pass rates and maintenance of infrastructure at educational institutions across the country.

The recruitment of heads and deputies began on 30 August, with prospective candidates set to have handed in their applications by 21 September.

According to a memorandum from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education seen by Sunday News, Government is seeking to employ a total of 1 318 primary school heads, with Bulawayo (8), Harare (5), Manicaland (247), Mashonaland Central (154), Mashonaland East (171), Mashonaland West (125), Masvingo (109), Matabeleland North (210), Matabeleland South (160) and Midlands (129) all set to get appointees for the vacant posts.

For secondary schools, a total of 532 school heads are set to be appointed, with Bulawayo (7), Harare (17), Manicaland (27), Mashonaland Central (5), Mashonaland East (16), Mashonaland West (23), Masvingo (10), Matabeleland North (33), Matabeleland South (12) and Midlands (23) all set to get new appointees.

Across the country, 965 deputy primary school heads are set to fill vacant positions, while 173 secondary deputy school heads will also get appointed.

In Bulawayo, in addition to the eight primary school heads that are set to be appointed, 23 deputy primary school heads, two secondary school heads and seven deputy heads are also set to get new briefs. The primary schools without school heads in Bulawayo are St Bernard’s, Waterford, Helemu, Lozikeyi, Hope Fountain, Inkanyezi and Mhlali. Deputy school heads will be appointed for St Peters, Khami Prison, Hope, Mazwi, Mbuyazwe, Thembisa, Babambeni, Dumezweni, Robert Sinyoka, Henry Low, Kumalo, Fairbridge, Mthombothemba, Kensington, Lochview, Mgiqika, Nketa, King George VI, Sigombe, Mafela, Sibantubanye, Mgoqo and Gampu primary schools.

Tennyson Hlabangana and Maranatha are the two secondary schools in Bulawayo that are set to get substantive heads while Pumula South Secondary, Pumula High, Amhlophe High, Masotsha High, Founders, Emakhandeni and Gifford High School are all set to get deputy heads.

Primary and Secondary Education communications and advocacy director Mr Taungana Ndoro said the Government was embarking on the recruitment drive after realisation that there were many vacancies in those positions across the country. He also said the appointment of new school custodians would improve standards of learning and consequently pass rates as pupils geared for examinations across the country.

“The significance of these appointments is that there are a lot of headmasters or deputies that are currently in their roles on an acting capacity because in most cases, the incumbents would have moved elsewhere, retired or promoted. So, by appointing substantive heads, we are making sure that there is binding responding that comes with the role because once appointed, a head becomes the custodian of whatever institution that they lead.

As we approach a crucial part of the education calendar, we intend to make sure that pass rates go up as well is make sure that school infrastructure are well maintained which is the responsibility of those in positions of leadership,” he said.

Mr Ndoro said as the third term beckoned, the Government was also assessing possible teaching vacancies that needed to be filled.

“We are yet to see where we are in terms of vacancies for teachers. A lot of the headmasters and deputies are also teaching heads so they will also assume duties in the classroom while running the school. Afterwards we will then assess to see where we stand in terms of vacancies and then we shall see what the Public Service Commission allows to do to remedy those vacancies should they be any,” he said.

Zimbos In SA In Quandary

By A Correspondent- Multitudes of Zimbabweans engaged as domestic workers, or doing other menial jobs, remain in a quandary over their future as immigrants in South Africa after it emerged they were unsure of what exemption they could seek from the Department of Home Affairs.

Most Zimbabweans who were due for deportation at the expiry of their residence permits, commonly known as Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP), in December 2022 were given a six-month grace period to regularise their stay following a Cabinet directive freezing deportations.

In a statement Friday, South Africa Home Affairs Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi, said the Departmental Advisory Committee (DAC) decided to extend an olive branch to affected neighbours, noting that only a few had submitted applications to renew their permits.

“With the powers bestowed upon me in terms of section 31(2)(b), read with section 31(2)(d) of the Immigration Act, decided to extend the Zimbabwean exemptions granted to Zimbabwean nationals for a further period of six (6) months in order to allow the holders thereof to apply for one or other visas provided for in the Immigration Act that they may qualify for, hereby direct that this decision should be implemented as follows, during the further six months’ period, from 31 December 2022, ending on 30 June 2023,” Motsoaledi said.

“No holder of the exemption may be arrested, ordered to depart or be detained for purposes of deportation or deported in terms of the section 34 of the Immigration Act for any reason related to him or her not having any valid exemption certificate (i.e permit label/ sticker) in his or her passport,” the minister said.

But, Zimbabwe Community in South Africa chairman, Ngqabutho Mabhena told NewZimbabwe.com that while his organisation welcomed the moratorium on arrests and deportations of immigrants, most affected individuals, particularly unskilled labourers, did not know how to apply for exemption.

“We welcome the extension of the grace period by the Minister of Home Affairs from 31st of December 2022 to 30th of June 2023,” said Mabhena.

“This brings a sigh of relief to holders of ZEP as the majority of them had not applied to move to other VISAs. The reason for them not to apply is because of confusion in terms of the requirements.

“Most people that are ZEP holders are people of low skill, and according to the Immigration Act, such individuals will not qualify. Even if people are asked to apply for a waiver, others are not sure what it is they should ask the Department to waiver.”

Mabhena said his organisation would take opportunity of the deportation freeze to engage South African government authorities.

“So, we believe with this extended grace period, we will be able to engage the Department of Home Affairs so it gives clarity to say ‘if a person ia of low skills working as a domestic worker or a driver in the construction industry, what assistance can they get and what are the requirements that need waiver for them to qualify for a general working VISA,” Mabhena added.

Zanu-PF SA chapter spokesperson, Kennedy Mapesa Mandaza concurred with Mabhena, adding the reprieve had eased tensions amid fears of xenophobic attacks.

“It is a decision that has brought relief to many of our people who were being faced by the possibility of deportation at the end of the year,” said Mandaza.

It has eased the tension and frustrations that we’re simmering among Zimbabweans both in South Africa and Zimbabwe. The reprieve will give the majority of the Zimbabweans to continue to seek regular permits that are provided under the South African Immigration laws.

“More importantly it gives our people ample time to repatriate their property to Zimbabwe without a lot of hustles especially now that those who may not get the permits may do so after the busy festive season.

“During this period we urge our two governments to continue to engage and find lasting solutions on the issue of Zimbabwean migrants so that we have a resolution that accommodates the concerns of the migrants.”

Operation Dudula Blasts ZEP Extension

By A Correspondent- Operation Dudula, an anti-immigrant group in South Africa, said the extension of Zimbabwean Exemption Permits (ZEPs) is an insult to South Africans.

On 02 September 2022, South Africa’s Home Affairs Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi announced the extension of the application period to 30 June 2023.

Motsoaledi, however, warned that there will be no further extensions.

Operation Dudula’s Kwena Molekwa said the South African government has betrayed its people by extending the deadline. Said Molekwa:

But what is heartbreaking is the continuous betrayal of the ANC government toward the South African people because prioritising South Africans in South Africa seems like a wild concept…labour laws of this country have been undermined under this ZEP that is being placed illegally.

Molekwa said they can’t continue to feel sorry for Zimbabweans considering that almost half of South Africans are unemployed. Said Molekwa:

Yes, we did sympathise with the Zimbabwean people but we can no longer continue looking at the unemployment of South Africans, looking at 46% of South Africans that are on grants.

On Saturday, Motsoaledi revealed that to date, the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has received 9 000 visa waivers and 4 000 applications. | EWN

Mthuli Ncube Fires Warning Shots At Companies Failing To Remit Tax

By A Correspondent- Companies and banks failing to timeously remit tax will be penalised, Finance minister Mthuli Ncube has warned.

Speaking on Saturday in an interview with the state media, Ncube said while there has been a significant rise in domestic remittances, the increase is not being reflected in Treasury inflows because companies are delaying giving the government its IMMT on time forcing the government to borrow in order to fund development projects.

He said:

These delays then force Government to borrow through instruments such as Treasury bills so that we can fund development projects currently underway.

The delay in remitting taxes to Treasury by money transfer companies forces the Government to borrow through such instruments as Treasury bills to fund development projects.

But the problem with remittances due to Treasury is not unique to money transfer companies alone. Even banks are guilty of this.

Treasury through the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) is currently owed about US$6 million by banks in Value Added Tax remittance

My Ministry will soon begin to penalise them if they hold onto funds due to Treasury for longer than necessary.

Proposed penalties will be twice what they should remit to Treasury if they delay.”

President Chamisa Celebrates Bulilima Victory

By A Correspondent- Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has expressed gratitude to voters in Bulilima after the opposition party won two out of three wards under Bulilima Rural District Council in by-elections held on 3 September.

Bulilima RDC wards 1, 14 and 16, fell vacant following the resignation of two ZANU PF councillors, Tonny Mlotshwa and Ntungamili Dube and the death of Delani Mabhena, also of ZANU PF.

But CCC, formed in January this year, managed to snatch wards 1 and 16, while ZANU PF retained Ward 14.

Posting on Twitter this Sunday, Chamisa also thanked the party’s foot soldiers as well as Zimbabweans based in the diaspora for assisting the party to make electoral gains in rural Matabeleland. Wrote Chamisa:

THANK YOU BULILIMA… A BIG WIN against all odds, CCC won 2/3 of the wards previously held by ZANU PF in yesterday’s by-elections.

We’re a CITIZEN’S MOVEMENT. Thanks to our ground forces, the Change Champions. Kudos to the diaspora for the support. All glory be to God!

According to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), voter turnout was slightly above 50 per cent in the three wards.

CCC’s Makhadi Moyo and Ephraim Moyo won wards 16 and 1 respectively, while ZANU PF’s Experience Dube won Ward 14

Zim Man In SA Hosts Party Before Killing Self

By A Correspondent- A South African-based 24-year-old Zimbabwean national reportedly committed suicide after hosting a party for members of the community in Thandanani, Verulam in KwaZulu-Natal.

The man, who has not been named, locked himself in a room after ordering his girlfriend to move out and then set the building on fire on Saturday.

A local South African publication reported that the deceased’s neighbours contacted private security, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at around 9:41 AM after the man’s wood and iron home burst into flames with him inside.

RUSA members were immediately dispatched and on arrival discovered the home completely burnt down.

The charred remains of the self-employed tiler were discovered in the debris.

RUSA spokesperson, Prem Balram, said the man’s girlfriend, who was drunk, said the deceased bought large quantities of meat and beer to host a braai on Friday afternoon.

He reportedly partied throughout the night with members of his community and his girlfriend.

Balram said that when the man returned home on Saturday morning he discovered his girlfriend in his bed. He added:

He informed her that he loved her and asked her to leave as he intended on ending his life.

He then forced her out of the residence and locked the door. The informal home thereafter burst into flames.

The deceased could be heard screaming for several minutes before the structure collapsed. The motive for the suicide was not immediately established.

Police Launch Operation Targeting Law Breaking Transporters

By A Correspondent- Police in Bulawayo have launched an operation targetting public transporters operating from undesignated points in the city.

Police say that have impounded 21 buses, 45 commuter omnibuses and 15 private cars since then.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Bulawayo Province, Inspector Abednico Ncube, told journalists on Friday that the impounded vehicles were taken to Ross Camp Police Station while the drivers were arrested. He said:

Most of the vehicles we have impounded are not registered or have outstanding fees with the city council.

For them to be cleared, they will have to undergo inspection by the relevant authorities.

Insp Ncube urged members of the public and bus operators to desist from operating in undesignated areas.

He reiterated that the police shall continue with the operation until order is restored in the city.

In Bulawayo, long-distance bus crews pick up and drop passengers along Bulawayo–Harare Road, Leopold Takawira Extension opposite Centenary Park and along Bulawayo–Plumtree Road at Jonh Love Motor, among other undesignated points, thereby disrupting the smooth flow of traffic.

ZEC Silent On Hefty Nominal Fees

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has refused to say whether it will reduce its hefty nomination fees for aspiring candidates or not after the majority of opposition political parties expressed their disapproval.

A letter by ZEC in response to a challenge on the fees indicates a meeting will soon be called to consider grievances raised by three activists represented by the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR

Rusty Markham, an MDC Alliance MP, Egypt Dzinemunhezva, a former presidential candidate, and student leader Tapiwa Chiriga lodged a complaint with ZEC and gave it a 72-hour ultimatum to withdraw Statutory Instrument 144/2022 gazetted by government.

The letter, signed by ZEC deputy chairperson Rodney Kiwa, indicated that the elections management body will sit and consider the nomination fees. It reads:

Reference is made to the above subject matter and to your letter dated 23 August 2022 regarding the same.

Five People Feared Dead In Horror Crash

By A Correspondent- Five people are feared dead after a head-on collision involving two Honda Fit vehicles along the curve just after Mutare Teachers’ College in Mutare on Sunday morning.

John Mutakura, who was one of the first people to arrive at the accident scene told The Manica Post that five people died on the spot. He said:

The accident occurred around 5 AM. One of the vehicles was heading towards the city while the other was coming from the direction of Dangamvura.

We saw five people that were already dead when we got to the scene. It is a sorry sight. We had to cover the dead with blankets.

Many people have died in accidents on the same spot which is characterised by rugged terrain and is now considered a black spot.

Police in Manicaland Province could not comment on the accident, saying traffic cops have been deployed to attend the scene.

No Further ZEP Extension- SA Home Affairs Minister

By-South Africa’s Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi said his government would not extend the Zimbabwe Exemption Permit (ZEP) beyond 30 June 2023.

On Friday, Motsoaledi announced the extension of the validity of the ZEP Visa by another six months, from 31 December 2022 to 30 June 2023.

Speaking on SABC News this weekend, Motsoaledi said ZEP holders should take advantage of the extension of the deadline to regularise their stay in South Africa. He said:

There will never be any other extension. If anybody doesn’t want to take advantage of this extension, after 30 June 2023, then that is the end of the whole exemption permit.

Motsoaledi also revealed that to date, the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has received 9 000 visa waivers and 4 000 applications.

DHA said the reason for the extension is due to the low number of applications received from Zimbabweans to regularise their stay in the country.

At least 178 000 Zimbabweans are holders of the permit and those who fail to get alternative visas will have to leave South Africa.

Khupe Behind Chamisa Bulilima By-Elections Victory

CCC won two of the three wards that previously belonged to Zanu PF.

Khupe has been conducting grassroots campaigns in these wards.

When she joined CCC, she was initially viewed with suspicion, but party supporters have warmed up to her.

Bulilima RDC wards 1, 14 and 16 fell vacant following the resignation of two Zanu PF councillors, Tonny Mlotshwa and Ntungamili Dube and the death of Delani Mabhena, also of Zanu PF.

Results released by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), CCC won wards 1 and 16, with Zanu PF taking Ward 14 of Bulilima District Council (RDC).

Top Soldier Plots Coup, Smuggles 31 AK-47 Rifles

By- A senior member of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Colonel Leonard Matambo, has been arrested for smuggling 31 AK-47 assault rifles and 62 magazines.

Matambo smuggled the weapons into the country through the Beitbridge Border Post for a suspected coup plot.

He appeared before magistrate Stanford Mambanje last week and was remanded in custody to Tuesday for bail ruling.

Prosecutor Tafara Chirambira told the court that on an unknown date between 2019 and August this year, Matambo connived with Guguluthu Mabhena of Bulawayo to smuggle a consignment of 31 AK-47 rifles as well as 62 magazines from South Africa.

On August 29, Mabhena was allegedly found carrying the guns in his Toyota Hilux king-cab vehicle at Manica Transit Shed in Beitbridge.

Police investigations established that the firearms had been smuggled from South Africa.

On hearing that the firearms had been intercepted at the border post, Matambo allegedly wrote to the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority’s regional manager requesting that Mabhena, of Spartan Arms International, be allowed to clear the consignment pending submission of relevant clearance documents which he claimed were being processed by the Zimbabwe Defence Industries.

In opposing bail, police Inspector Victor Mukohwa told magistrate Mambanje that Matambo was likely to commit a similar offence and endanger the safety of the general public.

Mukohwa expressed fear that more firearms could have been smuggled using the same modus operandi; hence police required more time to investigate the matter while Matambo and his accomplice were in custody.

South Africa Explains Reason Behind Extension Of Zim Permits Exemption

South African Government says it was compelled to grant a six-month extension for special permits allowing Zimbabwean nationals to live and work in the country, this is because of the few applications received so far from people to regularize their stay in the country.

A spokesperson for Home Affairs Siya Qoza said the Departmental Advisory Committee under the direction of Dr. Cassius Lubisi to evaluate the visa applications submitted by the impacted Zimbabweans.

Additionally, it sought legal counsel to help it deal with court challenges stemming from the decision to not prolong the exemptions given to Zimbabwean nationals.

“Dr. Lubisi gave the Minister of Home Affairs a progress report. According to the report, the DAC convened its most recent full-day meeting on September 1, 2022, after holding multiple meetings to carry out its mandate”.

South Africa plans to end most special permits for foreign nationals as it revamps its immigration policies to manage an influx of economic migrants.

At least 178 000 Zimbabwean nationals faced deportations from the country after the expiry of their special permits due on December 31st.

Africa’s most industrialized nation has been a magnet for people seeking better economic opportunities from across the continent, particularly from the Southern African Development Community countries.

According to Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi, arrivals ballooned in 2008 as the global financial crisis combined with an economic collapse in Zimbabwe triggered mass migration.

The presence of foreigners in South Africa has sparked resentment among some locals, who see them as competitors for scarce jobs, health care, and housing, and the country has been wracked by intermittent xenophobic violence.

History made! Zimbabwe upset Aussies in stunning win

Zimbabwe pulled off one of the biggest ODI upsets in recent memory, shocking Australia with a three-wicket win after Ryan Burl’s maiden five-wicket haul, on a history-making day that also saw Mitchell Starc set a new world record.

After being outclassed in the opening two matches, losing by five wickets and by eight wickets, Zimbabwe’s response in the third Dettol ODI was emphatic with the ball, bowling out the hosts for 141.

It was Australia’s lowest-ever score against Zimbabwe and the first time in 33 ODIs that the Chevrons had claimed all 10 Aussie wickets in the format.

Josh Hazlewood did all he could to bail Australia out with 3-30, and Starc became the fastest man to reach 200 ODI wickets and eclipse a 23-year-old benchmark,  but Regis Chakabva (37no off 72 balls) guided Zimbabwe to a famous victory in a nervy chase.Warner in a class of his own with attacking 94

The tourists’ captain Chakabva won the toss for the first time this series and gave his side first crack with the ball, much to the delight of the healthy crowd at Riverway Stadium.

However, the spectators would’ve expected a mountain of runs from the men in yellow and not regular wickets from pace bowlers Richard Ngavara, Victor Nyauchi and Brad Evans.

On the same pitch as was used for the first two matches, Zimbabwe found just enough seam movement to trouble Australia’s high-profile top order.

But it was leg-spinner Burl who did most of the damage, claiming a career-best 5-10 from three overs.Evans delivers Zimbabwe a famous ODI victory

He was the sixth bowler called upon by Chakabva and it proved to be a masterstroke from the visiting skipper.

At 5-129, the partnership between David Warner and Glenn Maxwell had passed 50 (off only 40 balls) and threatened to take the game away from Zimbabwe when Burl was brought into the attack.

With his fourth ball, the leg-spinner floated an 82.3kph delivery onto leg stump which Maxwell couldn’t resist, with the allrounder skying a catch that Burl gratefully snapped up.

Two balls later, Ashton Agar hit a full toss straight to mid-wicket to leave Australia 7-129.Smith shoulders arms in horror lbw dismissal

Warner had played brilliantly for his 94 off 96 balls and batted with an ease none of his teammates could find.

He smoked 14 fours and two large sixes to keep Australia’s innings from falling apart all together.

But even he fell victim to Burl when he attempted to bring up his century with a six, caught in the deep by a juggling Evans.

Warner scored 66.7 per cent of his side’s runs, the second-highest percentage of a completed innings in men’s ODI history.Burl stuns Australia with rapid five-wicket haul

The scorecard made for tough reading for the Australians, with only Warner and Maxwell (19) making double figures.

Australia lost 5-12 as Burl ran through the lower order, bowling Starc (2) and getting Josh Hazlewood (0) caught behind after a review.

Heading into the series, Burl had taken nine ODI wickets from 31 matches, but together with his 3-60 from the first match, he nearly doubled his wickets tally with 10 overs in Townsville.

Zimbabwe came out after the lunch break in an attack mood with opener Takudzwanashe Kaitano (brought in for Innocent Kaia) hitting a string of boundaries off the quicks.

But Hazlewood had other ideas, taking three wickets in eight balls to give Australia hope.

Kaitano (19 off 25), Wessly Madhevere (2) and Sean Williams (first-ball duck) were all undone by the pace and guile of Hazlewood, who has bowled well without getting the rewards all series.

The wickets continued for Australia with Sikandar Raza (8 off 19) falling victim to the pull shot for the third consecutive innings, caught off the bowling of an elated Marcus Stoinis.

As Zimbabwe looked to stabilise following Tadiwanashe Marumani’s wicket, Munyonga was given a chance by Aaron Finch at slip on seven.

Munyonga only added another 10 runs but together with Chakbva, the pair rode their luck in a slow but vital partnership of 38 runs.

With five runs required for the victory, Mitch Starc grabbed his 200th ODI wicket, becoming the fastest player ever to the milestone as Burl hit an easy catch to Cameron Green at mid-off.

But a punch through the covers from Evans sealed the unforgettable win with 66 balls remaining.

Earlier, Australia’s innings got off to a horror start, losing three wickets in the first nine overs.

Finch was out to left-armer Ngavara for the third time this series, while caught by Burl at second slip.

That was followed by returning quick Nyauchi trapped Steve Smith lbw, with the star batter letting the ball cannon into his pads and then review in a bizarre sequence of events.

Carey took the aggressive approach but it backfired as he was caught behind off the bowling of Evans.

Australia squad: Aaron Finch, Sean Abbott, Ashton Agar, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner, Adam Zampa.

Zimbabwe squad: Ryan Burl, Regis Chakabva (c), Bradley Evans, Luke Jongwe, Innocent Kaia, Takudzwanashe Kaitano, Clive Madande, Wessly Madhevere, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Tony Munyonga, Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava, Victor Nyauchi, Sikandar Raza, Sean Williams.

Before Everything Else, I’m A Father

FRANK Lucas, the Harlem drug dealer whose heroin operations used to rake in US$1 million per day at its peak, believes that the coat he wore to a Mohammed Ali/Joe Frazier fight in 1971 was the cause of his downfall.

Before that night, Lucas had been a low key figure, running a multimillion-dollar drug empire from the shadows of the criminal underworld.

The controversial set

After seeing lesser “hustlers” don expensive fur coats to another Ali fight in 1970, Lucas felt that he had to outshine them, and on that fateful night, he walked out of his home with a $100 000 chinchilla coat draped over his shoulders. To crown his majestic look, he wore a $25 000 fur hat.

It was an expensive costume that cost him more than money, something that meant very little at a time when his operation was at its financial zenith. It would cost him his wealth, peace and ultimately his freedom, as he began attracting the wrong kind of attention.

Everyone, from the paparazzi to law enforcement officers wanted to know who Frank Lucas was after that night at Madison Square Garden.

Leroy Sidambe, a businessman in South Africa, might not have donned a fancy chinchilla coat to a fight but he might find himself under the same kind of scrutiny.

A few weeks ago, few knew who Leeroy Sidambe was and, in a country prone to bouts of sometimes violent xenophobia, fewer still questioned his identity as a South African.

However, when news started filtering in that Leeroy, who is thought to be married to Mary Jane Sidambe, is now allegedly involved with Mihlali Ndamase, all hell broke loose. While Lucas had an attention-grabbing fur coat, Sidambe had a trophy girlfriend equally loved by the camera.

An influencer with an unparalleled social media presence, Mihlali has been the apple of Mzansi’s collective eye over the last few years, with her strikingly beautiful looks making one of South Africa’s most sought-after celebrities.

While Ndamase was previously untouchable, things have taken a turn for the worst since her alleged romance with Sidambe became public knowledge.

On social media, the girl who could do no wrong previously has now been commonly labelled as a husband snatcher, as Sidambe is thought to be still married to Mary Jane Sidambe.

While Mihlali battles slut-shaming and allegations of destroying another woman’s marriage on social media, for Sidambe, the consequences have just been as dire.

Since revelations that he is involved with Ndamase became public knowledge, Sidambe has been the subject of many attacks from those that claim that he corruptly got tender deals although he is a foreigner. This is despite the fact that some say Sidambe is a naturalised South African because of his marriage.

Sidambe is the chairman and Group CEO of the Sakhile Ezweni Group, a business that he describes as “a multidisciplinary group of entities, security, cleaning, events management, construction, bakery and project management.”

He is thought to have won some high-profile tenders, having been a part of events like the 2010 Fifa World Cup which took place in South Africa and the Nelson Mandela Memorial service at the FNB Stadium, nine years ago.

As if to prove that he is a Zimbabwean in hiding, some have dug into his biography, claiming that there are significant gaps that prove he is not originally from South Africa. Such gaps are thought to be associated with people who bought their identity.

A few weeks ago, the xenophobia-tinged online campaign against the businessman kicked into higher gear as some claimed that he is a foreigner that is ill-treating his South African workers. This was after a notice that salaries for workers would be delayed began circulating on social media.

While Leeroy has decided to deactivate his Twitter account and remain mum in the face of allegations that he is not a South African, he recently moved to protect his newfound sweetheart, revealing that he was now separated from his wife.

“Before everything else, I am a father, whose sole aim is to protect and provide for my two beautiful children. I have consistently shielded them from this period of change in our lives. They are the only reason I sought to have a quiet separation from my estranged wife,” read part of his statement.

“According to my understanding and that conveyed by my lawyers, this meant that my estranged wife and I were free to live our lives as we saw fit. Free to move on in whatever manner we chose as single individuals.”

Sidambe claimed that the cyberbullying was being instigated by his estranged wife and her friends.

“I met a woman I fell in love with. It has been heartbreaking to see her name dragged daily on social media for loving me loudly and boldly. The constant harassment she receives, instigated by my estranged wife’s associates, is unbearable and quite frankly not safe for anyone’s mental wellbeing.

“Mihlali Ndamase, like us all, is human and has a right to follow her heart on who she loves. She is a self-sufficient woman, who has astutely run her business, which does not deserve this kind of hateful intrusion upon her life and work.

“I can no longer turn a blind eye to the effect cyberbullying has had on her. The constant defaming of those who work in the public space has to stop.” Sunday News

Exposed: Regalia Donning Zanu PF Members Granted Free Access To Harare Agricultural Show

Zanu PF members were on Friday last week granted free access to the Harare Agricultural Show in order to ululate and cheer President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his Botswana counterpart Mogkweetsi Masisi as they officially opened the show.

According to leaked chats from a Zanu PF WhatsApp group, party members donning regalia were given free transport and free access to the show despite Zimbabwe Agricultural Society (ZAS) charging the rest of the public to get into the exhibition park.

ED’s Name Used To Commit Crime

Police has warned criminals abusing Emmerson Emmerson Mnangagwa and his family’s names for extortion and other criminal activities that they will face the full wrath of the law.

In a statement yesterday, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said names of suspects that have been arrested for masquerading as representatives of the First Family will be released soon.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police has received numerous reports of criminal acts being committed by suspects who are openly abusing His Excellency, President E.D. Mnangagwa, and the First Family’s names in extortion, fraud, theft and other related criminal acts,” he said.

“The suspects are duping members of the public who include individuals, businesspeople and companies on the pretext that they would have been tasked by the First Family or His Excellency, President Mnangagwa to fundraise or collect money for various activities.”

Asst Comm Nyathi said businesspeople and individuals were being fleeced of their properties, assets and cash by criminals that purport to be representing the Head of State.

“The ZRP strongly warns these individuals or groups that the law will take its course without fear or favour.

“Arrests are being effected and these include some land barons in Harare, Banket and other towns who are openly abusing His Excellency President Mnangagwa’s name for personal gain.”

Police said the public is urged to report anyone who approaches and claims to be conducting personal or business activities on behalf of the First Family on telephone number (0242) 703631 or WhatsApp number 0712 800 197. -Sunday Mail

School Exams Begin

The 2022 public examinations will begin this month, with all exams set to be completed before year-end, for the first time since the outbreak of Covid-19 more than two years ago.

Schools open for the third term tomorrow, amid high expectations of heightened return to normal learning on account of the subsiding global pandemic.

According to the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec), the number of candidates registered to sit for this year’s public examination has increased considerably as a result of dissipating effects of the pandemic.

While most public Covid-19 prevention protocols have been relaxed, the Government will this term continue to enforce schools’ Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) put in place to contain the contagion in learning institutions.

Grade Seven candidates will sit for their first examination on September 26 and finish on October 10.

Ordinary and Advanced Level candidates will kick off the exam season with practical tests on September 16 and finish on November 29.

Zimsec has also received most candidates’ submissions for the Continuous Learning Assessment Activities (CALA) components, with only one module remaining.

Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education director communications and advocacy Mr Taungana Ndoro said schools this term will focus on preparing pupils for examinations to help increase pass rates.

“There were fewer disruptions this year by the Covid-19 pandemic compared to the last two years, so we expect the examinations to be completed this year. The exams will not be spilling over to next year as what was happening over the past two years,” he said.

“So much focus will be on this year’s examination classes as well as next year’s examination classes so that we increase the pass rate.”

He said normalcy was slowly returning to schools after two years of disruptions.

“So we expect to slowly start returning to our normal school calendar. We will, however, continue with our online lessons which include radio lessons.”

He said pupils will continue to wear face masks indoors, while some high-risk sporting activities remain suspended.

“We are guided by the National Covid-19 Taskforce, therefore, masks will continue to be worn indoors at schools as well as enforcement of other Covid-19 protocols such as basic hygiene of sanitising, hand washing and avoiding overcrowding,” he added.

“In terms of sporting, at the moment we will continue to use the circular that was issued during the second term and we will be guided by the Covid-19 taskforce and Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation.”

Zimsec Board chairperson Professor Eddie Mwenje said the number of pupils who registered for this year’s exams has increased compared to the last two years.

“We are still compiling the figures and they will be ready next week (this week),” he said.

“However, we expect the numbers to increase. For instance, there is an increase in the number of English Language candidates this year compared to last year,” he said.

“This indicates that Covid-19 had a negative impact on the education sector on communities and on teachers. This affected learning and examinations.”

National Association of School Heads (NASH) president Mr Arthur Maphosa said Government’s Basic Education Assistance Module (BEAM) programme was responsible for the increased enrolment.

He said there were limited disturbances caused by Covid-19 and job action by teachers this year. -Sunday Mail

Zanu PF Plot To Kill Citizens Exposed

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa says Zanu PF’s Emmerson Mnangagwa lacks genuine love for citizens.

In a statement on his official Facebook page, President Chamisa bemoaned the escalation of violence in the country.

“Politics has left me with many scars yet I have zero bitterness within me. Violence is barbaric and stone age. Peace is modern. Peace is a builder. A New Great Zimbabwe is loading…Blessed friday beloved.#Godisinit #fakapressure.”

He added :
“PEACE MEANS LOVE… Where there is love there is no violence. Violence is simply the absence of love.

There is just no violence where there is love. Peace is inclusive. #Peacemeanslove.”

President Chamisa’s party has pointed out that Zanu PF is plotting acts of violence and terror.

“VIOLENCE ALERT: The regime in Harare recently held a secret meeting with various stakeholders where they discussed on how to silence the citizens through the use of violence,” CCC said in a statement.

CCC Seeks Victory In Bulilima By-elections

Today, By elections: Citizens Coalition for Change fights to win 3 wards from Zanu PF in Bulilima

As today, Masvingo urban ward 3 council Rock Kamuzondo holds pool tournament in his ward to help youth fight drug abuse

3 September 2022

Wezhira Munya

Today, Citizens Coalition for Change is fighting with Zanu PF and other three political parties in today’s by elections in Bulilima.

The three wards were won by Zanu PF during 2018 harmonized elections.

Will CCC win these by elections in rural Bulilima?

CCC champions led by Hon Thokozani Khupe, councillor Arnold Batirai Dube and other Mungwazo cluster leaders were leading massive by elections campaigns in Bulilima.

FIVE political parties are contesting in the Bulilima district by-elections for three vacant local government seats in Mat. South.

Ward 1, 14 and 16 seats fell vacant following the resignation of two Zanu-PF councillors Tony Mlotshwa (ward 1) and Ntungamili Dube (ward 14) and the death of Delani Mabhena (ward 16).

Zanu-PF seeks to retain the seats in the polls contested by Zapu, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) and little known People’s Patriotic Party (PPP) and Constitutional Generation for Change (CGC)

Ward 1 candidates are Darlington Moyo (People’s Patriotic Party), Ephraim Moyo (Citizen Coalition Change), Cousam Ndlovu (Zanu-PF) and Lingiwe Nyoni of the Constitutional Generational Change.

Ward 14’s candidates are Experience Dube representing Zanu-PF, Ephraim Moyo (CCC) and Moyo Linos (Zapu). In ward 16 there is Moyo Jane of Zanu-PF, Ncube Hitman of Zapu, and Moyo Makhadi of CCC.

In another story, Masvingo urban ward 3 youthful CCC councillor Rocky Kamuzondo is sponsoring a pool tournament among youth today. The tournament kicks today at 10am in Runyararo West high density suburb. The purpose of the tournament is to help youth fight drug abuse.

Councillor Rocky Kuzomuka will give awards to the winners.

ZBC Staffers Lament Poor Diet

By Staff Reporter- Staff at Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC)’s Pockets Hill in Harare and Montrose Studios in Bulawayo are reportedly surviving on a daily diet comprising sadza, beans and cabbages, NewZimbabwe.com can reveal.

Sources said the trend has continued for over a year now.

Media personnel covering the ongoing Zimbabwe Agricultural Show (ZAS) in Harare, were denied allowances to buy lunch for themselves, and are surviving on a burger, 500ml of water and a fizzy drink, the whole day.

With no transport allowance and knockoff time falling way after Public Service Commission (PSC) buses have stopped ferrying commuters, some of the station’s big names at the annual event are being forced to walk into town to get alternative transport.

According to the journalists, ZBC chief executive officer (CEO) Adelaide Chikunguru was to blame.

A letter shared with newsrooms by one of the journalists paints a sad picture of the situation at the public broadcaster.

“When Chikunguru declared war against employees she really meant it and did not waste an opportunity to display her evil heart,” reads the letter.

“She has made it a policy that no one receives an allowance for the ZAS event and that food will be tranported from Pockets Hill to the Showground. The meal consists of a burger, a 500ml fizzy drink and 500ml of mineral water.

“Employees who are toiling in the sun are expected to have this for the whole day, that is 0800hrs-1630hrs; that is if you are lucky to get it because the meals are not even enough for everyone on the ground.”

Others who spoke to this publication on condition of anonymity said they could not afford to buy better meals for themselves as their salaries were very low.

“We are not paid enough to afford our own lunch,” said the journalist.

“We do not even understand how such a station could find itself in this situation where it fails to feed its own employees as was being done by past administrations.

“If our viewers and listeners knew how some of those they love so much are treated, they would not believe it.”

Poor administration at ZBC has resulted in a demotivated and poorly paid workforce whose quality of work has been evidently shoddy.

Coached Zanu Pf Youths Rewarded For Youth Service Public Hearing

By A Correspondent- ZANU PF reportedly offered to transport its youths to the ongoing Zimbabwe Agricultural Show (ZAS) and reward them handsomely in return for them making rehearsed contributions at a public hearing by parliamentarians.

The Parliamentary Committee on Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture on Friday held a public hearing in Epworth, a largely informal settlement outside Harare, to discuss the reintroduction of the National Youth Service (NYS).

A local publication reported a source as saying ZANU PF youths were promised food and free transport to the show if they submitted coached contributions during the meeting. Said a youth:

First, we were asked to regurgitate coached submissions at the public hearing, and thereafter go to the showgrounds.

A ZUPCO bus has been organised specifically for us, but if they do not give us transport to the show and the food they promised us, we will boycott the next ZANU PF event. They cannot take us for fools.

After the public hearings had adjourned, a ZUPCO bus was spotted ferrying the ZANU PF youths to the ZAS official opening ceremony.

Meanwhile, the majority of the youths that attended the public hearings in Epworth intermittently disrupted the proceedings.

Top Junta Up For Smuggling 31 AK-47 Rifles

By- A senior member of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Colonel Leonard Matambo, has been arrested for smuggling 31 AK-47 assault rifles and 62 magazines into the country through the Beitbridge Border Post for unknown purposes.

Matambo, who is being charged with smuggling and possession of dangerous weapons, yesterday appeared before magistrate Stanford Mambanje, who remanded him in custody to Tuesday for bail ruling.

Mukohwa expressed fear that more firearms could have been smuggled using the same modus operandi, hence police required more time to investigate the matter while Matambo and his accomplice are in custody.

Reprieve For ZEP Holders

By- Reprieve for Zimbabweans in South South Africa as the government extends the validity of the Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP) Visa by another six months to mid-2023.

According to a statement released by the Department of Home Affairs, the next expiry of ZEP permits is now 30 June 2023 instead of the original 31 December 2022. Reads the statement:

ZIMBABWEAN NATIONALS GRANTED EXEMPTIONS IN TERMS SECTION 13(2)(b) OF THE IMMIGRATION ACT 13 OF 2002

1. As previously communicated, the Department of Home Affairs (“DHA”) appointed the Departmental Advisory Committee (“DAC”) led by Dr Cassius Lubisi to assess the visa applications lodged by the affected Zimbabwean nationals. The DHA also appointed an outside legal firm to handle all court challenges relating to the decision not to extend the exemptions granted to the Zimbabwean nationals and related matters.

Progress report

2. The Minister of Home Affairs (“Minister”) received a progress report from Dr Cassius Lubisi. The report states that the DAC has met on several occasions in order to execute its mandate, and their last meeting was held for the whole day on the 1st of September 2022. The DAC recommended to the Minister that in view of the progress thus far, it will be prudent for the Minister to consider extending the period within which the affected Zimbabwean nationals will have an opportunity to apply for visas and/or waivers for a further six months.

3. The Minister has carefully considered the request and decided to extend the period by a further six months, that is, 31 December 2022 to 30 June 2023.

Another factor considered by the Minister is that few Zimbabwean nationals have thus far applied for visas and/or waivers. To this end, the Minister has issued another Directive annexed hereto marked “A”

4. The Minister is committed to affording the affected Zimbabwean nationals another opportunity to apply for one or other visas and/or waivers provided for in the Immigration Act.

5. The Directive containing the decision of the Minister will be communicated through diplomatic channels to the Zimbabwean Ambassador in South Africa.

6. The DHA calls upon all the affected Zimbabwean nationals to make use of this window of opportunity and not wait for the last moment to lodge their applications as is the case now. There will be no further extension granted by the Minister.

ZEC Taken Aback As Twitter Poll Goes Otherwise

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission created a poll to ask citizens if political parties should be registered or not.

The poll created at a time pro-Zanu PF members have been pushing to have political parties registered before they participate in elections in what has largely been targeted at the newly formed Citizens Coalition for Change led by Nelson Chamisa.

ZEC took the debate a step further and created a poll possibly to test waters but they got a rude awakening after Twitter users flatly rejected the idea with 57 percent of the 5963 people who voted saying NO to registration of parties while 38 percent said YES. 5 percent said May Be.

Did South Africa Heed Chamisa’s 400 Day Plea?

South Africa yesterday extended the deadline for Zimbabwean permits to 30 June 2022 in what has been a major reprieve to hundreds of thousands of Zimbo who were at risk of being deported after 31 December 2022.

In a statement released on Friday, the department says Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motosaledi received a report from the committee which stated that he should consider extending the validity period for the permits.

“The Minister has carefully considered the request and decided to extend the period by a further six months, that is, 31 December 2022 to 30 June 2023,” they say.

Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson Chamisa recently begged South Africa to give Zimbabwe 400 days to sort out its mess.

“Fellow Africans in South Africa, we note your frustrations and economic constraints.I kindly ask for your support to Zimbabweans in these trying times. Help us as we do our best to fix Zimbabwe for a prosperous future. In less than 400 days our pains, agonies and fights will be a thing of the past.We will win Zimbabwe for change.

“Help us to hold credible elections. We need free and fair elections to permanently resolve our politics and the economy. Many are not in your country out of mischief but on account of poor leadership, bad governance and deadening poverty. Zimbabweans mean no harm to you. After all, we are decent and great neighbors,” said Chamisa.

Govt Pegs Vehicle License In USD

Vehicle licence fees have now been set in US dollars converted at the interbank rate of exchange on the day of payment for the majority who pay in local currency with owners of vehicles under 1 500kg paying $11 200 a four-month term at yesterday’s exchange rate.

In terms of Statutory Instrument 156 of 2022, the 25th amendment to the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Regulations gazetted by Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Felix Mhona, the old Zimbabwe schedules have been replaced by new schedules denominated in US dollars.

However, the amendment makes it clear that the fees listed “may be payable in local currency (Zimbabwe dollars) for locally registered vehicles at the ruling exchange rate of the day”.The new fees came into effect yesterday, the day they were gazetted.

The tables giving the tariffs now allow for longer periods than just one term, with vehicle owners given the options of: 4 months, 6 months, 8 months, 10 months and 12 months. The tariffs are identical per month regardless of the length of licence cover desired, there being no discount or premium if longer or shorter periods are chosen.

The shift to US dollars follows other changes in Government fees, with the same proviso that the US dollar rates can be converted on the day of payment to local currency at the official rate, which is now set as the interbank rate for all Government transactions. This can change every business day.

The switch means that gazetted rates will be valid for far longer as inflation adjustments will be far less frequent.Besides the fees to maintain licence cover, the regulations also list the fees for first time registrations and for change of ownership, with much higher fees when the change involves changing the number plates.

For the continuation of licence cover the new fees for a four month term are:

Up to 1 500kg US$20,

1 501kg to 2 250kg US$25,

2 251kg to 3 000kg US$30,

3 001kg to 3 750kg US$60,

3 751kg to 4 250kg US$75,

4 251kg to 5 000kg US$90,

5 001kg to 5 750kg US$100,

5 751kg to 6 250kg US$105,

6 251kg to 7 000kg US$120,

7 001kg to 7 750kg US$130,

7 751kg to 9 250kg US$140,

9 251kg to 10 000kg US$150,

10 001kg to 10 750kg US$200, and

10 751kg and above US$300.

The fees for six months are one and half times the four-month rates, for eight months are twice the four-month rates, for 10 months are 2,5 times the four-month rates and for one year are three times the four-month rates.

Reprieve For Zimbabweans In South Africa

South Africa’s Minister of Home Affairs, Aaron Motsoaledi has extended the validity of the Zimbabwe special permits by another six months.

The permits were set to expire at the end of this year, leaving thousands of Zimbabweans in the country with no choice but to return home or face being in the country illegally.

Civil society organisations, including the Helen Suzman Foundation, had turned to the courts to reverse the minister’s decision to terminate the Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP).

Motsoaledi has since appointed a Departmental Advisory Committee to assess the visa applications by affected by Zimbabweans.

The committee was led by Director-General, Dr Cassius Lubisi.

In a statement released on Friday, the department says Motosaledi received a report from the committee which stated that he should consider extending the validity period for the permits.

“The Minister has carefully considered the request and decided to extend the period by a further six months, that is, 31 December 2022 to 30 June 2023,” they say.

“Another factor considered by the Minister is that few Zimbabwe nationals have thus far applied for visas or waivers. To this end, the Minister has issued another directive,” reads the statement.

The department says the minister remains committed to affording affected Zimbabweans nationals another opportunity to apply for visas or waivers.

However, there will be no further extension.

“The department calls upon all the affected Zimbabwe nationals to make use of this window of opportunity and not wait for the last moment to lodge their applications as is the case now.”

Chipinge’s Only X-Ray Machine Down Since March

Chipinge District Hospital has been operating without an X-Ray machine for almost five months now.

According to The Manica Post, the hospital’s X-Ray machine broke down in April and patients seeking X-Ray services are being turned away.

The digital machine reportedly broke down in April when the hospital was attending to Chimanimani Bus Disaster victims which claimed the lives of 43 Zion Church of Christ (ZCC) followers.

Chipinge District Hospital receives at least 20 patients seeking X-Ray services daily but they are being referred to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital in Mutare.

Chipinge District Medical Officer, Dr Brian Makumbe confirmed the dire situation at the hospital. He said:

Our X-Ray machine is not working. The part that broke down is very expensive to replace.

The money we are receipting is not enough to repair or buy the new part.

We are engaging our superiors to have this issue addressed.

Chipinge District Hospital’s catchment area is quite huge, covering Chipinge rural, Birchenough Bridge, Rusitu and neighbouring Mozambique.

A patient, Tenson Semwayo, told The Manica Post that he had to fork out US$40 at a private surgery in Mutare to access X-Ray services after travelling all the way from Manzvire in Chipinge South last week.

He implored authorities to urgently repair the X-Ray machine at Chipinge District Hospital.

Military Man Arrested For Smuggling Weapons

A senior member of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Colonel Leonard Matambo, has been arrested for smuggling 31 AK-47 assault rifles and 62 magazines into the country through the Beitbridge Border Post for unknown purposes.

Matambo, who is being charged with smuggling and possession of dangerous weapons, yesterday appeared before magistrate Stanford Mambanje, who remanded him in custody to Tuesday for bail ruling.

Mukohwa expressed fear that more firearms could have been smuggled using the same modus operandi, hence police required more time to investigate the matter while Matambo and his accomplice are in custody.

Matambo’s lawyer Tonderai Bhatasara said his client was not a flight risk and that he has an immovable property in Gweru.

Bhatasara also said his client’s wife was a senior member of the Air Force of Zimbabwe, currently on a United Nations mission in South Sudan.

Bhatasara said the consignment belonged to the ZDI.

Matambo said he wrote the letter authorising the release of the firearms after being given the nod by ZDI general manager, one Air Commodore Mutizwa.

Mukohwa told the court that Mutizwa’s whereabouts were not known, adding that police were yet to receive a complaint for the ZDI over the matter.

The firearms, ammunition and the vehicle were confiscated and will be produced before the court as evidence.– Newsday

Chamisa Dupes ZANU PF

Scores of Zanu PF supporters were left with egg on their face yesterday after their plans to disrupt Citizens Coalition for Change (CC) leader Nelson Chamisa’s campain rally in Chivhu, Mashonaland East province, turned into a wild goose chase amid reports that the opposition leader had sold them a dummy.

Over 80 placard-wielding Zanu PF members camped at the Chikomba Rural District Council offices in the morning baying for Chamisa’s head, only to disperse later in the day after it emerged that the purported rally was a hoax.

CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said: “Zanu PF is desperate and seeing shadows and ghosts everywhere. The CCC is focused on mobilising the masses to win Zimbabwe for change in 2023. Anything else is a sideshow.”

A CCC senior member in Chivhu, who said he was not authorised to speak to the media, confirmed the development.

“We received a tip-off from Zanu PF insiders on Thursday that there was a planned protest against Chamisa, whom they thought would visit,” the official said.

“But we are confusing detractors. That is our new strategy. We have realised that Zanu PF has a tendency of disrupting our meetings and we are very cautious of that. We also need to ensure safety, not only of the leadership, but of our supporters because they have been victims.”

A senior Zanu PF official in Chikomba, Rangarirai Matono, who was part of the Zanu PF group, confirmed the planned protests in an interview with NewsDay Weekender.

“I am not very sure why the protests did not succeed,” he said. “I am out of town. I got engaged with another business.”

Chamisa last week advised his supporters to lie low in the face of the escalating violence ahead of the 2023 elections, urging them to adopt what he termed “Operation Mango — green outside and yellow inside”, where they pretend to be Zanu PF supporters in public while remaining opposition at heart.

Since last year, most of Chamisa’s rallies have been violently disrupted by ruling party activists, with his motorcade often attacked.

Last week in Gokwe, Midlands province, scores of opposition supporters and journalists from the private media were severely assaulted at illegal roadblocks mounted by Zanu PF supporters along the Nemangwe-Chitekete Road, where Chamisa was scheduled to address a campaign rally for the party’s Gokwe-Kabuyuni parliamentary candidate Costin Muguti.

The CCC leader had to call off the rally after top Zanu PF officials took over the venue claiming they had booked it for their rally. -Newsday

Govt Promises To Collect Fees In ED Dollars

TREASURY has directed all Government ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) as well as local authorities to collect all fees and levies in Zimbabwe dollars only, except where specified, as the Government steps up measures to promote the use and desirability of the local currency.
This comes as measures instituted by Treasury and the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) have started yielding the desired impact that has manifested in exchange rate and inflation stability.

In a directive to all MDAs and local authorities, Secretary for Finance and Economic Development, Mr George Guvamatanga, said: “Any collection of fees and levies for services rendered in foreign currency by Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, as well as local authorities, is illegal and should be in local currency at the prevailing interbank rate, unless granted exceptional approval by Treasury”.

The directive from Treasury comes as some Government institutions, including local authorities, had started demanding payment of fees and levies exclusively in foreign currency, especially in light of the then resurgent inflation.

Earlier last week, the City of Harare announced that some of its services would be billed in United States dollars (USD) starting September 1, 2022.

In the notice, the local authority said the move sought to ensure continued service delivery.

The notice read: “Council wishes to advise its valued residents and stakeholders that certain fees chargeable by council are now payable exclusively in United States dollars (USD) with effect from the 1st of September 2022.

“The fees exclude all charges that are accessible through the monthly bills, i.e. water consumption, sewerage, refuse collection and rates. The above-mentioned charges will remain open to being payable using multi-currency as may be opted by the client.

“This development is in line with council’s resolution made on the 3rd of August 2022 and the need to capacitate council to continue sustaining service delivery. The US dollar tariffs will remain as contained in the 2022 approved budget or Schedule 25A.”

But Mr Guvamatanga, citing the law, said: “Section 78 (1) of the Public Finance Management Act (CAP 22:19), empowers Treasury to prescribe or issue instructions or directions to ministries, whether individually or collectively, concerning the determination of any sales of fees, other charges or rates relating to revenue accruing to the Consolidated Revenue Fund.”

He added that notwithstanding the current trends where service providers and traders have been allowed to charge prices for goods and services in both foreign currency and local currency, the Government has the mandate to provide services at cost recovery levels, cognisant of the need to ensure affordability and accessibility to the general citizenry.

Ostensibly, some public institutions had misconstrued Government’s intentions when it gazetted a law entrenching the use of a multi-currency system for the duration of the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), which runs for five years through 2025.

All MDAs and local authorities that had placed such notices prescribing exclusive payment in forex have been ordered to immediately withdraw them and revert to a pricing framework which is guided by the Government policy position.

The Government has previously instituted measures aimed at promoting the use and desirability of the local currency, among them payment of most duties and levies for Government services and royalties by mining firms, in local currency.

Economist Mr Eddie Cross, a known strong advocate of the local currency, said due to challenges being encountered in a dual currency system, the best way forward should be to “de-dollarise completely and float or allow the US dollar to find its range freely”.- state media

Tinashe Sambiri|
Former Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko’s son has been arrested by police in Bulawayo .

Mr Siqokoqela Mphoko is facing
rape charges. He is expected to appear in court on Thursday afternoon.

“Siqokoqela Mphoko was this morning arrested by police in Bulawayo and will appear in court today. He was arrested over rape charges and that is all we can release as information,” police said in a statement published by a State paper.

In a video clip posted on Ezra Tshisa Sibanda’s Facebook, Mphoko said :

“Good morning to everybody, my name is Siqokoqela Mphoko. A praying man, a God-fearing man and a family man. Today… Yesterday actually, I was called to the Hillside Police Station and a rape charge laid against me. No investigations were done, but that’s still fine. Yesterday, I ran away from the police station because I felt that there was no fairness in my case. I felt that things were not done properly and I felt that there was a hand behind it that is not Government.

I believe in the judiciary system, so now I’m on my way to Hillside Police Station to hand myself in as we speak. I’m asking for your prayers and I’m asking for your support.

I thank you for your love and your understanding. Thank you, God bless, you.”

Mnangagwa Hates Own People

Masisi Glorifies Murderous Mnangagwa

Tinashe Sambiri| The President of Botswana, Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi, has stunned all and sundry after failing to utter a single word on the political crisis in Zimbabwe.

Masisi described the Zanu PF leader Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa as a “dear brother.”

Political analysts say Masisi’s remarks have sanitised the violation of human rights in Zimbabwe.

Below is the President of Botswana’s statement:

Dumelang Batswana.

We had private discussions followed by official talks with my dear brother His Excellency, Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa yesterday.

We discussed a wide range of issues that affect our two countries and we did this with honesty, respect and most of all with the interests of the people we lead at heart. We later addressed the media and the question on our position on the economic sanctions placed on Zimbabwe arose.

Our position as Botswana is unequivocal. These sanctions are hurting the people of Zimbabwe and they must be lifted. We are equally affected by their repercussions. The West must engage Zimbabwe and find a solution.

Train Crushes Boy To Death

A CHIKANGA teenager was this morning crushed to death by a goods train after failing to hear the hooting locomotive because of the headphone he was putting on.

Although the identity of the deceased was not readily ascertained, those who witnessed the tragic incident told The Manica Post that the boy could not hear the sound of the train as he had headphones on, which are believed to have been on high volume.

Mr James Mutimbanyoka said: ”The train was coming from Harare and we all heard the sound apart from the horn which was so loud. Some of us thought it was just the normal horn as the railway line crosses the road which is used by pedestrians around that area. But somehow, I think the engineman had actually noticed that the young man had not sensed that the train was coming. He was instantly crushed to death in our full view.”

Contacted for comment, Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said they would get finer details tomorrow (Friday).

“It is unfortunate we cannot confirm nor comment on that now. We wait for procedure and we can only confirm that tomorrow,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.

Mnangagwa Aide Terrorises Gokwe Villagers

By- President Emerson Mnangagwa’s former aide and Gokwe-Kana MP, Owen Mudha Ncube is wreaking havoc by targeting opposition supporters in Gokwe.

Reports by NewZimbabwe say that Mudha is doing the same in Gokwe-Kabuyuni, where Zanu PF won a by-election with wide margins.

“Mudha” Ncube is the Gokwe Kana MP, while Gokwe-Kabuyuni was last week won by Spencer Tshuma of the same Zanu PF party.

Tshuma garnered 10 727 against CCC’s Costin Muguti, who polled 4 800 votes in by-elections held on 27 August 2022.

Villagers who requested anonymity for fear of victimisation said that Mhudha is targetting people who voted for Muguti in Gokwe-Kabuyuni.

Said one of the villagers:

Ncube has directed Zanu PF supporters to hunt for the 4 800 who voted for CCC candidate Costin Muguti and all those who supported his campaign locally.

We do not know how they are going to do that, but we hear they have a list of people they are targeting.

I am sure this is the beginning of violent attacks on opposition supporters and those who will be unfortunate or suspected of supporting the CCC.

This is very scary because if two teams are expected to compete then the other starts stopping the other from entering the field of play, which raises fear.

Another villager said the thugs are not afraid of “avenging spirits” as happened in the case of MDC-T supporter Moses Chokuda who was killed in cold blood in 2008. Said the villager:

Already a lot of people in Gokwe are traumatised by what they witnessed in 2002, 2003 and 2008.

Zanu PF supporters have already begun to threaten people, saying they will beat them or burn their homes.

They do not fear a repeat of what happened in 2008, in the case of Chokuda because we hear some of those tormenting us are artisanal miners and touts, who do not fear spilling human blood as they are now used to it.

Chokuda was killed at the height of the 2008 politically motivated violence by Farai Machaya, son of then Midlands provincial governor, Jason Machaya, and his two friends Edmore and Bothwell Gana.

Chokuda’s body reportedly “refused” to be buried for years until Machaya was forced to compensate the Chokuda family with 70 cattle and US$15 000.

Meanwhile, screenshots of messages taken from a ZANU PF constituency group, allegedly sent by Owen Ncube read:

Which are the main areas dominated by CCC? Who are their ring leaders, list them. Are there any members from town in your area who are giving assistance to CCC? Do they have a car? If so, where do they park during the night?

Who is sponsoring CCC in your home area? Does he have a shop? Who is the aspiring candidate for CCC as a councillor or MP?

Ncube refused to comment on the screenshots when he was contacted for comment by NewZimbabwe.com.

Posting in another WhatsApp group, Zanu PF supporter Godwin Nkatha, urged members to identify CCC supporters so that they undergo ideological reorientation. He said:

4 000 is too much for CCC, those people who voted for Chamisa must be identified and vadzidziswe gwara remusangano (they need indoctrination on the party line).

Those three places might be cancerous to other places. They need to be grouped starting now and be taught Zanu PF ideology.

We must close the registration of new voters because it will be disastrous.

Ramaphosa Aide Speaks On Harassment Of Zimbabweans

By-South Africa’s minister in the presidency Mondli Gungubele has warned that preventing foreign nationals from accessing healthcare could negatively affect patients, the public health system and the country’s citizens.

He said:
We understand the public health system is overburdened. However, doctors and healthcare workers have an obligation to provide healthcare to those in need.
The Hippocratic Oath guides the actions of doctors, which includes them not withholding services because of religion, nationality, race, politics or social standing.
Government is hard at work to improve our healthcare system and deal with challenges.

Zambian Currency Tops Africa, Threatens USD

By James Gwati-As of September 1 2022, the Zambian Kwacha was the best in Africa and had overtaken the world’s best performing currencies.

Some of the best currencies overtaken by Kwacha included the Russian Ruble.

The Kwacha has been on a steady growth since 24 months ago, and observers attribute the trajectory to the ascendancy to power of President Hakainde Hichilema.

The government’s spokesperson, Joseph Kalimbwe, said this Thursday on Twitter:

The Zambian Kwacha has now overtaken the Russian Ruble to become the best-performing currency in the world, as of today September 1 2022. Our country still has a long way to go, but many thanks to everyone for voting for our party. The UPND is making steady progress!!!

How the Ruble rose:

Around May, the Russian Ruble was the best-performing currency despite wide-ranging sanctions imposed for its invasion of Ukraine.

i). The rise came when Russia insisted that European Union countries that purchase natural gas from Russia make payments in rubles, rather than in dollars or euros.

ii). The Central Bank of Russia on February 8 raised its interest rates to 20% in an emergency move. This means anyone who is looking to sell rubles for dollars now has an incentive to hold the Russian currency, which would in turn cushion the fall in the Ruble.

iii). The Russian government forced export-focused businesses to convert 80% of their foreign currency into rubles triggering significant demand for the Russian currency, thus also helping to prop it up.

Zambian Kwacha’s rise is attributed to:

a). Restored mining bullishness –  In addition to political stability, the rise of the Kwacha is attributed to Mining which has long been a cornerstone of Zambia’s economy. The global copper market is tightening, so new mines are difficult to find. Consequently, the Zambian kwacha has been in high demand, as revenue from the country’s exports increased by 14.2 per cent to $5.9bn in 2021. According to the Bank of Zambia, copper contributed $4.4bn to the country’s total earnings that year.

b). Massive debt relief – Zambia’s dollar debt, including arrears and state-owned company liabilities, rose to $17.3 billion by the end of last year. On July 30, Zambia’s official creditors, led by China and France, agreed to negotiate a restructuring of their debts. Consequently, Zambia got final approval from the International Monetary Fund for a $1.4 billion bailout. Following this news, the Zambian kwacha advanced to its highest level.

c). Increased forex supply – Economist Patrick Chileshe says the other reason why the Kwacha has been gaining against the US dollar is increased forex supply. To guard against the volatility in the exchange rate, the central bank was offloading an average of $13 million per day in June. He said:

We have seen the Kwacha gain strength, and that was driven by increased foreign exchange supply to the market by the Bank of Zambia which was consistent in the market, whereas the demand for US dollars has been low, and that led to the appreciation of the Zambian Kwacha.

The Zambian kwacha is the best-performing currency in the world against the US dollar, rallying over 18.5% from January 22 to September 1.

While continental peers South Africa, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Ghana, Malawi and Kenya have been unable to control rising inflation and plunging currencies, Hichilema’s government has managed to reduce the inflation rate from 24.4% in August 2021 to 9.7% in June this year.

Zanu PF Conducts Secret Torture Trainings

By James Gwati- Zanu PF is holding secret torture training sessions ahead of the next year’s elections.

According to the opposition CCC, at these torture seminars, the Zanu PF militia is trained on how to attack opposition supporters.

Unearthing these secret meetings, CCC posted on social media that they were now fearing the abductions of their members.

VIOLENCE ALERT: The regime in Harare recently held a secret meeting with various stakeholders where they discussed how to silence the citizens through the use of violence

Mudha Hunts Down Chamisa Gokwe Supporters

By- Former Spy minister Owen Mudha Ncube is wreaking havoc in Gokwe-Kana by targeting opposition supporters.

Reports by NewZimbabwe say that this is also happening in Gokwe-Kabuyuni, where Zanu PF won a by-election with wide margins.

Bogus Stands Agent In Trouble

A suspected bogus residential stands agent who was allegedly illegally selling land to people in Spitzkop outside Harare has been nabbed and locked in custody.

Gilbert Kanyongo of Vevhu Development Marketing Company and his company secretary Nomatter Rukawe are accused of misrepresenting to be agents of Vevhu Resources (Pvt) (Ltd) and selling land to people collecting over US$60 000 yet their contract had been ended in 2017.

The two were not asked to plead to fraud allegations when they appeared before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda.

Kanyongo was denied bail while Rukawe was released on $20 000 bail with the court saying there is a strong case.

The court heard that from 2017 up to date, the two connived and misrepresented to land seekers that they were agents of Vevhu Resources and they would sell and allocate stands to people.

Rhe State alleges that the two knew that their company’s contract to represent Vevhu Resources had been terminated.

Claims are that clients continued to pay and being allocated stands without the authority of Vevhu Resources, the owners of the land.

It is said the two were arrested on August 30 after a trap was set and led to the arrest of Rukawe who was found in possession of trap money comprising of two US$100 notes which was received from one Svodai Gonorenzou as payment for a stand.
