Man Killed By Mutoriro

A 21-year old man from Tshabalala in Bulawayo died after a suspected overdose of crystal meth, one of the drugs that have wreaked havoc among youths, bringing to fore how the drug menace has continued to destroy communities in the country.

The death of Themba Mwanza at Mpilo Central Hospital last Saturday has now stoked tensions in the suburb with some residents baying for the blood of suspected drug dealers, as more young people in the area are getting hooked on the highly addictive and the potentially deadly drug.

Mwanza died after he complained of stomach pains a day after he took the drugs.

According to post-mortem results, Mwanza died as a result of a drug overdose. His death has inflamed tensions in a community where there is a belief that drug dealers are peddling crystal meth to the young and vulnerable.

When Sunday News visited Tshabalala last week, members of Mwanza’s family, together with some community members, were preparing themselves for a raid on one of the drug dens where Mwanza is said to have bought the deadly concoction of intoxicants that eventually claimed his life.

A community meeting, on how to tackle the drug scourge, was scheduled for yesterday.

Known scientifically as methamphetamine, crystal meth is a highly addictive stimulant used for its powerful euphoric effects.

The rock-like substance is usually decrystallised into a brown smoking smear, which is smoked using curved pipe made from fluorescent tubes from disused energy-saver light bulbs that are cleaned and sold to drug users.

Speaking to Sunday News, Mwanza’s uncle, Mr Godknows Ndlovu, said his nephew started complaining of stomach pains on Saturday afternoon.

He was drinking (alcohol) normally on Saturday during the day but towards the evening he started complaining of stomach pains. During that time, I noticed that his stomach was rock hard, as if there was something that had tied it in knots.

Throughout the night he was complaining about his stomach and in the morning, it was getting worse and that’s when we decided to take him to Mpilo,” he said.

At Mpilo, Mr Ndlovu said, health practitioners immediately told them that he was likely the victim of a drug overdose, as they had seen many young people exhibiting similar symptoms recently.

“They told us that he had probably overdosed on drugs because they had been taking in a lot of patients of a similar age who had overdosed. They also said the victims usually didn’t survive for long,” he said.

Mwanza passed away on Saturday afternoon, a few hours after being admitted. According to Mr Ndlovu, his friends later on revealed that they had taken crystal meth bought from a dealer in Sizinda.

“Initially we thought it was the alcohol that he had been drinking but as we spoke to his friends, they revealed that they had gone to Sizinda to buy the drugs in-between the drinking,” he said.

Mr Ndlovu, who described his nephew as a mild-mannered young man who did not like to pick fights with anyone, said they had repeatedly warned him and others against consuming some of the drugs now being peddled on the streets of Tshabalala.

According to other community members who spoke to Sunday News, users of the drug had a tendency to become overly aggressive and seemed to have boundless energy after a “hit”.

“We knew they were taking these drugs and we kept on warning them. This is now a problem that is widespread within the community and we want to raise alarm against its devastating effects. My nephew died in a painful way and I want his story to be heard,” said Mr Ndlovu.

Ward 21 Councillor Tinevimbo Maposa, bemoaned the widespread drug use in the community, while calling on law enforcement officers to act to nip the problem in the bud.

“It’s sad that we had such a development, losing lives due to drugs. We have a duty as parents, as communities as leaders in all spheres to do something about drug abuse before we lose a generation. Law enforcement agencies must also deal with those who sell or manufacture such drugs,” he said.

Mwanza was buried on Friday at Umvutsha Park Cemetery. Police could not immediately comment on the issue. -Sunday News

Reshuffle Cabinet To Avoid Defeat, Mutodi Tells Mnangagwa

Outspoken Goromonzi West MP, Energy Mutodi (ZANU PF), has urged President Emmerson Mnangagwa to reshuffle his Cabinet as a matter of urgency to avoid a humiliating defeat in the 2023 elections.

Mutodi is not convinced that some cabinet members have what it takes to help Mnangagwa solve the country’s economic challenges.

Said Mutodi:
ZANU PF will not be able to retain power with its current cabinet. President ED Mnangagwa is being called upon to take immediate and effective action to extricate the party from a humiliating defeat.

Mutodi is a former Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services.

Mnangagwa fired Mutodi on 20 May 2020 after a series of public clashes with the late then Foreign Affairs minister Sibusiso Moyo.

Mutodi had publicly criticised the then Tanzanian President John Magufuli’s handling of the coronavirus outbreak in the East African country, prompting Moyo to publicly criticise him.

Mutodi, however, did not accept Moyo’s public censure and accused the former military general of behaving like a prime minister.

He recently criticised Finance Minister Ncube in the National Assembly, asking why it took him such a long time to realise that buying and selling foreign currency has become the primary business in the country.

Mutodi also asked Ncube why Zimbabwe continued to use bond notes when he (Mthuli) has previously stated that “bad money drives out good money” before he became a Cabinet Minister.

Emmerson Ramakopa Registers “Ngaapinde Hake Mukomana,” Party

It’s never brains for Emmerson Mnangagwa’s party members, some who have copied Nelson Chamisa’s party moto, Ngaapinde Hake Mukomana as a politial party.

This is a fresh plot to confuse supporters of the Nelson Chamisa-led Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) after a shadowy political group notified the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) that it was registering one of CCC’s popular campaign slogans as theirs, a source said.
The unknown group using a Harare address is said to have notified Zec that a party known as Ngaapinde Hake Mukomana (NHM) loosely translated to “let him in” in English will contest future elections.

It indicated 95 Jason Moyo Avenue, Harare as its address.

A check at the address revealed that the building houses different retail shops and there was no office for a political party.

The letter signed by the purported new party’s secretary general one John Pindura claimed that a Frank Mandipa was their leader.

An online search of the two names yielded nothing, which could suggest that they are virtually unknown or might not exist at all.

CCC deputy spokesperson Gift Ostalos Siziba said the purported letter, now trending on social media, was an attempt by Zanu PF to derail CCC, which was formed in January.

The party went on to win the majority of parliamentary and local government seats in by-elections held in March and early this month.

Siziba said they were seeing a Zanu PF hand in the alleged attempt to torpedo Chamisa’s campaign ahead of the 2023 elections where he is set to contest against President Emmerson Mnangagwa for the second time.

“It is a sign that Zanu PF is desperate. It’s foolish for Zanu PF to think that they can hijack the revolution by using the NHM,” Siziba said.

“NHM is not a trademark of the CCC, but just a philosophical mass mobilisation watchword.”

He said the move proved that CCC was causing Zanu PF sleepless nights.

“The attempt to register a party in the name of our watchword is a sign that CCC is a popular party,” Siziba said.

“Zanu PF lacks intellectual rigour and that is why they are always following us trying to hijack every idea we have. We lead them in terms of ideas.

“We will not be worried about that anyway. We will always have new ideas.”

Effie Ncube, a Bulawayo-based political commentator, said the move to register a slogan associated with CCC as a name for another party could have been triggered by the performance of Chamisa’s party in the by-elections.

“There is no doubt at all that Zanu is spending sleepless nights worrying about the growth and the resilience of the CCC party. Therefore it is coming up with all sorts of shenanigans including forming political parties to try and disturb the inevitable demise of Zanu PF,” Ncube said.

Zanu PF director of communications Tafadzwa Mugwadi yesterday said the ruling party had no business sponsoring opposition parties.

“We have no business commenting on matters that have no bearing on our trajectory,” Mugwadi said.

“However, it would be a sad day in history if any political player were to frown on the formation of other new political players.

“The president is clear that we are a multiparty democratic state and everyone has a right to form what is formable.

“The ballot shall be the equaliser and we will teach them a lesson of their life in 2023 through the ballot.”

In 2021, another shadowy group calling itself Citizens Convergence for Change wrote to ZEC to register the CCC acronym which at the time was linked to Chamisa before he officially launched the party.

The outfit mentioned prominent Bulawayo lawyer Tavengwa Hara as the party’s legal representative. Hara, however, distanced himself from the party.

Zec spokesperson Jasper Mangwana said he could not comment on the latest developments.

“We can’t comment until we receive something on the notice of elections.” Mangwana said.

Mnangagwa Under Pressure To Implement Reforms

Tinashe Sambiri|The European Union has expressed concern at Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s unwillingness to implement electoral reforms.

EU says Zimbabwe is deeply reluctant to implement key reforms before polls.

The snail-slow pace at which the Harare regime is implementing reforms is worrisome, according to EU.

ZIMBABWE has failed to take steps to implement electoral reforms that would guarantee free and fair elections next year, a European Union observer mission (EUOM) said yesterday.

The EU mission made 23 recommendations after the hotly contested 2018 elections, including the alignment of the Electoral Act to the Constitution and ensuring the independence of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec).

In its follow-up assessment on the implementation of the recommendations, the EU noted that progress has been slow, especially as the country is due for polls next year, which will likely produce another contested result.

“To date the progress on the implementation of the EUOM recommendations has been limited, with the majority of the majority of the priority ones not yet adequately addressed,” chief of EU election follow-up mission Elmar Brok told journalists yesterday.

The EU mission met with Zec, civil society organisations, government ministries, the ruling Zanu PF party and opposition political parties among other organisations to check progress on implementation of its recommendations.

“If the authorities and the legislators do not address recurring problems related to vote registration, constituency delimitation, level playing field in the campaign, partisan behaviour of traditional leaders and public administration, freedoms of expression, assembly and of the media, they will undermine progress towards achieving an environment conducive to a greater level of public trust in the electoral process and peaceful elections,” Brok added.

Zimbabweans went to the polls for the first time under COVID-19 on March 26 to fill 28 parliamentary and 122 local government seats mainly because of recalls of MDC Alliance legislators and councillors.

Zec attracted attention over its handling of the polls after data experts unearthed a number of inconsistencies in the voters roll, including fake names and addresses, with critics accusing the elections body of rigging.

The commission disowned its own voters roll, shockingly claiming it had been tampered with.

Analysts said the polls were a precursor to the 2023 elections.

“The election follow-up mission welcomes that stakeholder consultations on some legal reforms have taken place or are ongoing but note with concern that the adoption of important reforms, such as amendments to the Electoral Act, remain outstanding,” Brok said.

Electrocution Of 3 Children: ZESA Blamed For Negligence

ZESA’s alleged negligence has been blamed for the electrocution of three children by collapsed electricity cables on Tuesday in Ingwizi village.

The three learners from Kweneng Primary School in Mangwe, Matabeleland South, were electrocuted when they came in contact with collapsed electricity cables while coming from school.

The three learners (aged 8, 9, and 10) whose sexes have not yet been established, are receiving treatment at the United Bulawayo Hospitals.

According to villagers who spoke to CITE, the cables are said to have been down since 2020 following the collapse of supporting poles.

The villagers said despite making numerous reports to the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) about the matter, nothing has been done to date.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Matabeleland South Province, Inspector Loveness Mangena confirmed the incident. She said:

The incident occurred on 17 May 2022 between 1300 to 1400 hours.

They (children) were coming from Kweneng Primary School on their way home.

So along the way, they were electrocuted by two ZESA overhead cables that connect Ingwizi centre and Kweneng Primary School, which had fallen down.

The case was reported to ZRP Mphoengs and the victims were ferried to Brunapeg Hospital where they were later transferred to UBH and their condition is said to be serious.

One of the Ingwizi villagers told CITE that the cables have been lying down for more than two years now. He said:

In fact, this line from Gwanda to Ingwizi is a problem and these ZESA people do not want to help us.

These people are very negligent. Even here in Bulu, we have a line from Patse turn-off to Mphoengs, poles are also down.

We are sick and tired of these ZESA people. We have an electricity connection but it is as good as a useless white elephant.

Once power lines fall, they come and dismantle to terminate the line and stay for a very long time without fixing the fault.

CITE reported that ZESA public relations officer, Prisca Utete requested that questions be sent to her via WhatsApp, which was done, only for her to say, “Noted.”- CITE

Lean Spell For Prince Dube

Prince Dube has endured a prolonged goal-drought since returning from a long-term spell on the sidelines early this year.

Having missed the opening part of the season with an injury, Dube reclaimed his first team berth but has struggled to found the back of the net.

He netted his first goal in February and had to wait until April to get on the score sheet again.

In the previous season, the Warriors international played as a centre striker and managed to score fourteen goals despite spending two seperate long spells on the sideline through injuries.

But a position switch this term seems to have aided to his barren spell.

The 25-year-old is now playing as a winger after the coaches shook things up to accommodate Zambian striker Rodgers Kola in the central position.

From this new position, Dube has bagged a couple of assists.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Munetsi Extends Reims Deal

The Zimbabwean midfielder’s contract was set to expire in 2024 after joining the club from Orlando Pirates in 2019.

Reims confirmed the news in a statement on Friday, saying: “A few weeks away from celebrating his 26th birthday, Marshall Munetsi, midfielder with a Red and White heart since the summer of 2019, is extending his adventure for two more years. He will be with Stade de Reims until 2026!”

The statement further states that the midfielder’s contract renewal is part of the club’s future plans.

Munetsi impressed in his first two seasons at the club and has recorded brilliant stats in the current campaign after hitting five goals from midfield this season in 23 appearances.

His other contract extension with Reims happened a year after his arrival when he signed a new four-year deal.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

About Formula Milk And Your Baby’s Health

Formula milk companies are paying social media platforms and influencers to gain direct access to pregnant women and mothers at some of the most vulnerable moments in their lives. The global formula milk industry, valued at some US$ 55 billion, is targeting new mothers with personalized social media content that is often not recognizable as advertising.

A new World Health Organization (WHO) report titled Scope and impact of digital marketing strategies for promoting breast-milk substitutes has outlined the digital marketing techniques designed to influence the decisions new families make on how to feed their babies.

Through tools like apps, virtual support groups or ‘baby-clubs’, paid social media influencers, promotions and competitions and advice forums or services, formula milk companies can buy or collect personal information and send personalized promotions to new pregnant women and mothers.

The report summarizes findings of new research that sampled and analyzed 4 million social media posts about infant feeding published between January and June 2021 using a commercial social listening platform. These posts reached 2.47 billion people and generated more than 12 million likes, shares or comments.

Formula milk companies post content on their social media accounts around 90 times per day, reaching 229 million users; representing three times as many people as are reached by informational posts about breastfeeding from non-commercial accounts.

This pervasive marketing is increasing purchases of breast-milk substitutes and therefore dissuading mothers from breastfeeding exclusively as recommended by WHO.

“The promotion of commercial milk formulas should have been terminated decades ago,” said Dr Francesco Branca, Director of the WHO Nutrition and Food Safety department. “The fact that formula milk companies are now employing even more powerful and insidious marketing techniques to drive up their sales is inexcusable and must be stopped.”

The report compiled evidence from social listening research on public online communications and individual country reports of research that monitors breast-milk substitute promotions, as well as drawing on a recent multi-country study of mothers’ and health professionals’ experiences of formula milk marketing. The studies show how misleading marketing reinforces myths about breastfeeding and breast milk and undermines women’s confidence in their ability to breastfeed successfully.

The proliferation of global digital marketing of formula milk blatantly breaches the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes (the Code), which was adopted by the 1981 World Health Assembly.

The Code is a landmark public health agreement designed to protect the general public and mothers from aggressive marketing practices by the baby food industry that negatively impact breastfeeding practices.

Despite clear evidence that exclusive and continued breastfeeding are key determinants of improved lifelong health for children, women and communities, far too few children are breastfed as recommended. If current formula milk marketing strategies continue, that proportion could fall still further, boosting companies’ profits.

The fact that these forms of digital marketing can evade scrutiny from national monitoring and health authorities means new approaches to Code-implementing regulation and enforcement are required. Currently, national legislation may be evaded by marketing that originates beyond borders.

WHO has called on the baby food industry to end exploitative formula milk marketing, and on governments to protect new children and families by enacting, monitoring and enforcing laws to end all advertising or other promotion of formula milk products.

EU Puts Pressure On Mnangagwa To Implement Reforms

Boardroom Coup To Topple Matabele Leader Backfires On Chamisa

By Israel Dube- When it comes to tribalism in Zimbabwe, CCC aka MDC and ZANUPF lead. To put it in other words, ZANUPF is the first anti- Matabele Shona project and first home for Shona supremacists in Zimbabwe and CCC aka MDC is the second Shona project and second home for Shona supremacists.

Blinded by tribalism and anti- Matabeleism that seems to be fashionable in these two Shona supremacist projects, many in the above political parties are ignorant or simply do not care about the dire consequences of practicing tribalism in Zimbabwe.

Tribalism and tribal hate as promoted and perpetrated by the ZANUPF led government, has culminated in Matabele genocide and tribal oppression of Matabeles in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe is on the brink of splitting into two states that will give birth to the Republic of Matabeleland and Zimbabwe aka Mashonaland. Matabeles are calling for the breakaway of Matabeleland from Zimbabwe and there is no going back.

Those who think this is some kind of joke must ask themselves why, Mr Mnangagwa, in two of his rallies in March this year, referred to those advocating for the restoration of Matabeleland state as being possessed by the legion (many demons). They must also ask themselves why, in the same rallies, he threatened to “shorten the lives” of those who are peacefully calling the restoration of Matabeleland.

Beside tearing the MDC into many useless and politically infective splinter groups, tribalism has finally destroyed it. Out of the MDC rubble, a fragile CCC has arisen. The same Shona supremacists, the same tribalists and the same anti- Matabele leaders have regrouped in the CCC, making it vulnerable to the splitting sword of tribalism.

What is crystal clear is that, CCC is not home for Matabeles, will not bring any change. It is following on the huge and ugly ZANUPF foot print of tribalism. The people of Matabeleland must fight to liberate themselves from both oppressive Shona projects, CCC and ZANUPF.
The revolution is the people and the people are the revolution.

The so called yellow revolution that operates without a constitution and led by unelected leaders is a fly by night. It is not owned by the masses and they are not even aware that they do not own it. But one Big Brother owns it. It is named after him -CCC- Chamisa Chete Chete. The logo carries his picture, so are the T- shirts and any other CCC material. What a dangerous personality cult being built around one person!

CCC is part and parcel of Nelson Chamisa. During rallies he is the main speaker, pastor and master of ceremonies. He alone does the talking and other leaders are called on to the stage one by one, by him, strictly to “greet the people” nothing else and nothing more.
CCC leader, Nelson Chamisa is worse than dictators like Adolf Hitler, Mussolini and Robert Mugabe for they knew that the constitution was, is and will always be a fundamental document which a party must have. And that an elective congress gives someone some form of legitimacy.

Chamisa has no regard for the constitution, neither is he a fan of the elective congress. He capitalises on the poor masses who have been oppressed for a long time to an extent that they do not know how to choose between good and bad. They do not know the ABC of politics and place their hope on anyone who promises to deliver them. To Chamisa people are mere objects- a means to an end.

Before everyone’s eyes, Chamisa violated the MDC T constitution and staged a coup to take power because he could not wait for the congress to be elected officially. He is not a product of the constitution nor elective congress but an over ambitious power grabber like Emmerson Mnangagwa.  And now, since CCC is his own property, he has decided to do away with the constitution and congress. Laughable is it not?

It is in the public domain that Nelson Chamisa seized political power in the MDC through a board room coup that was very much influenced and fuelled by tribalism and fear of being led by an Matabele leader. Ably assisted by anti- Matabele Shona supremacist leaders in the MDC T, Nelson Chamisa successfully grabbed power through unconstitutional means soon after the death MDC T founding President, Morgan Tsvangirai.

We are told that the new party is Citizen Coalition for Change. What change when the party is building a dictator like Mugabe? What change when the party is operating without a constitution? What change when the party is not interested in changing the culture of tribalism, theft and corruption, violation of constitution and witchcraft that has split Zimbabwe into two states? Change my foot!

CCC is divided into two groups. The first one is composed of young turks who are hungry for power and success but are still learning the ropes and a few old people who worship Chamisa like a god. That is, Thabitha Khumalo, Charlton Hwende and others.  Amongst the turks are two ventriloquist’s dolls, Fadzai Mahere and Ostellos Siziba who are cast in the game deception. They are struggling to defend a fly by night party that has no constitution.
The other group is made out of the old guard who are lawyers by profession. That is, Tendai Biti, Job Sikhala, Welshman Ncube, David Coltart and others.

Look who is back! Madam Khupe is not a lawyer but she can stand and ague for her rights like a lawyer. All of them are not only brave but they have been in the political playing field for some time. Believe you me. They know dictatorship when they see it. They will not allow Chamisa nonsense to go on. It’s only a matter of time.

A genuine audio of Tendai Biti ravaging CCC as a “personalised and privatised entity” is trending on social media. And one can safely say, tribal triple CCC is an accident waiting to happen!

As for us Matabeles we do not need Shonas to lead us in Matabeleland, we have our own competent and capable leaders.

We do not want to be part of genocidal, tribalistic and chaotic Zimbabwe, we have our own country, The Republic of Matabeleland.

Mnangagwa Admits Failure

By- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has admitted that he had failed to run the country and turned to Political Actors Dialogue (Polad) members to help him arrest the economic turmoil characterised by sky-rocketing prices of goods and services.

Speaking after meeting the Polad principals on Thursday at State House, Mnangagwa acknowledged that the country was in an economic mess which he blamed on “economic saboteurs”.
POLAD was set up by Mnangagwa after the disputed 2018 elections and is made up of losing presidential candidates from opposition political parties. The president pleaded:
Help me to find economic saboteurs and deal with them.
We have established that some members of the business community were involved in fuelling the parallel market, thereby destabilising our local currency.
Our economy has been under attack from unscrupulous and nefarious individuals and syndicates bent on sabotaging our way of life.
Some basic commodities such as cooking oil have disappeared from supermarkets while others have been priced beyond the reach of many as the local currency keeps falling in value.

NewZimbabwe.com reports that the Consumer Council of Zimbabwe this Thursday said a consumer basket for a family of five had shot to $120 000, up from $98 000 in April.
In a bid to arrest the economic decline, Mnangagwa announced a cocktail of measures such as banning banks from lending but later reversed the decree following an outcry.
Early this week, the government lifted import tariffs to allow Zimbabweans to buy groceries across the borders.
Political analysts said POLAD was an illegal platform since it was not provided for by Zimbabwean laws and urged Mnangagwa to report to Parliament rather.

Smuggling Of Stolen Goods Haunts Police

By A Correspondent- Police in South Africa have raised concerns over an increase in the smuggling of stolen goods from South Africa to Zimbabwe and or vice versa through the Beitbridge border.

There has been an increase in the smuggling of vehicles and illegal cigarettes either from South Africa or Zimbabwe.

Limpopo Police Commissioner-General Thembi Hadebe who was part of a crime prevention operation on the N1 road between Musina and the Beitbridge border post explained that the operation is aimed at reducing the smuggling of goods.

The police and other law enforcement agencies carried out a crime prevention campaign in Musina and surrounding areas of the Beitbridge border post.

Hadebe also said there were roadblocks at the border post to curb the smuggling. The South African quotes Hadebe as saying:

These roadblocks are aimed at curbing the illegal crossing that is happening from us to Zim and from Zim to us.  There is an illegal crossing of all stolen vehicles that cross the river, and there is a lot of illegal cigarette traffic on this particular road.  There was a 3-million Mercedes Benz that was impounded trying to cross the border.

Meanwhile, taxi drivers have expressed concerns over stop and search operations. They believe that this project is negatively impacting their businesses.

Over 100 people have been arrested through the stop and search operations for numerous reasons.

Cancelling CCC Congress Will Not Only “Keep Infiltrators Stewing” But Citizens And Democracy Itself Too

By Wilbert Mukori- KEEP THEM GUESSING & TOSSING, STEWING & ROASTING! THROW THEM OFF BALANCE … Remember they infiltrate, manipulate and capture using 4 things ..1.Structures 2. internal Processes 3. Law-fare 4. Ambitious/hungry characters. Be so unpredictable so they can do nothing but assume.” Twittered Nelson Chamisa.

He was in reply to calls for CCC to hold primary elections elect candidates for the upcoming 2023 elections. A few weeks ago, he similarly dismissed calls for the party to launch its constitution and hold a party congress to elect the leaders giving the same reason – he is fearful of infiltration.

When Chamisa launched the party in January 2022, he insisted it was not rebranding MDC Alliance because the Citizens Coalition for Change was a democratic and people’s party as the name implied. What does a people’s party mean?

It was the Greeks who proposed democracy as a system of government in which the citizens themselves instituted the rules governing how society would live, enforced the rules and for their own benefit. Hence the reason democracy is defined as government of the people, by the people and for the people.

The greatest threat to democracy comes from within as human history would testify. It is irrelevant how one got into a position of power and authority but having got there they primeval instinct is secure power for themselves. Even those who had praised the merits of democracy and even benefit from the system will suddenly develop the jitters concerned by the consequence of ordinary people making key decisions.

Of course, the Greeks too were concerned the dangers of democracy producing an amateur government. And, instead of the country excelling in every field of human endeavour as Greece did, the Golden Age; see the country dragged into misery or worse because of the mediocre governance. The resolved to save themselves from amateur government in two ways;

  1. First and foremost, they placed great emphasis on the need to educate all their citizens and what better vehicle to achieve that than freedom of the individual, freedom of expression, open debate and meritocratic competition – the essence of the Olympic games.
  • Second, no one individual or group was ever entrusted with absolute power and authority and, even when, for whatever reason, someone was granted or seized absolute power, the whole society was restless to have power restored the back to the rightful owners – the people.

For all Chamisa’s claims that CCC is a people’s party he is clearly hell bent in ensuring that it is not by adopting the very measures that would make it a people’s party. When the Greeks wanted citizens   educated Chamisa is busy stifling all discuss and debate. The decision not to hold the party’s congress was made by him alone as there is nothing to suggest even the interim leadership was consulted.

Zimbabwe is in this political and economic mess precisely because the country has had the great misfortune of have political leaders with not aa drop of democratic blood in the veins. Mugabe stifle debate and competition at a party level and surrounded himself with utterly useless individuals who said nothing when the dictator pursued voodoo economic policies and even when he committed such heinous crimes as Gukurahundi massacre.

At a national level Mugabe imposed the de facto one party dictatorship that stifle all debate and democratic competition driving away all quality men and women out of politics and hence the country’s political paralysis. There are no quality leaders in both the ruling party and the opposition.

As much as Nelson Chamisa would want to claim to be a democrat, his track record tells its own different story. By stopping party elections and congress you are not only keeping infiltrators stewing and roasting most important of all the citizens too!

Just as a good tree cannot bear bad fruit and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. So far there is nothing in CCC to suggest it is a citizens’ party, a people’s party. Nothing!

ZRP In Joint Operation With Interpol

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is conducting a joint operation with the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) targeting top-of-the-range vehicles believed to have been stolen in neighbouring countries and smuggled into the country.

The operation is also being conducted in the region at large as police seek to stop the theft of luxurious vehicles that are often smuggled to foreign nations.

Most of the vehicles are smuggled using fake documents before their engines and chassis numbers are tampered with to obtain genuine documents.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed to The Herald that the police were participating in such an operation. He said:

We are not only targeting posh vehicles but stolen and unregistered vehicles and those that were not cleared properly. On unregistered vehicles, we are saying there is no reason whatsoever that they should be driven without number plates because the Central Vehicle Registry (CVR) informed us that they have no backlogs and that they have adequate registration number plates in stock.

Nyathi said the CVR had notified the police that once someone applied for registration number plates, they will be able to get them within 48 hours.

A team of detectives from the CID Vehicle Theft Squad and other sections countrywide has since been deployed to conduct the blitz that is targeting the luxurious vehicles.

ZRP will soon release statistics of vehicles it has impounded so far.

In 2014, Interpol and ZRP conducted an operation code-named “Usalamu” targeting stolen Isuzu trucks and Toyota Fortuner SUVs, which were being smuggled in and out of the country.

Nearly 7.2 million cars were reported stolen in 127 countries worldwide in 2013. Most of the vehicles were lost through car-jacking while others were stolen from parking lots

WHO Speaks On Monkeypox

By A Correspondent- As cases of the monkeypox increase, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has said monkeypox cases have mainly, but not exclusively, been identified amongst men who have sex with men (MSM) seeking care in primary care and sexual health clinics.

Cases of monkeypox were first recorded on 13 May 2022 in Europe and North America and now about 12 WHO member states that have in the past not regularly reported the monkeypox virus, across three WHO regions.

WHO says the virus is endemic in some animal populations in a number of countries, leading to occasional outbreaks among local people and travellers. The recent outbreaks reported across 12 countries so far are atypical, as they are occurring in non-endemic countries. Said WHO in a statement Saturday:

Epidemiological investigations are ongoing, however, reported cases thus far have no established travel links to endemic areas. Based on currently available information, cases have mainly but not exclusively been identified amongst men who have sex with men (MSM) seeking care in primary care and sexual health clinics.

The objective of this Disease Outbreak News is to raise awareness, inform readiness and response efforts, and provide technical guidance for immediate recommended actions.

The situation is evolving and WHO expects there will be more cases of monkeypox identified as surveillance expands in non-endemic countries. Immediate actions focus on informing those who may be most at risk for monkeypox infection with accurate information, in order to stop further spread. Current available evidence suggests that those who are most at risk are those who have had close physical contact with someone with monkeypox, while they are symptomatic. WHO is also working to provide guidance to protect frontline health care providers and other health workers who may be at risk such as cleaners. WHO will be providing more technical recommendations in the coming days.

Description of the outbreak

As of 21 May, 13:00, 92 laboratory-confirmed cases, and 28 suspected cases of monkeypox with investigations ongoing have been reported to WHO from 12 Member States that are not endemic to monkeypox virus, across three WHO regions. See the table below:

How Does it Spread & Symptoms:

i). Monkeypox spreads through close contact, therefore, people who closely interact with someone who is infectious are at greater risk for infection: this includes health workers, household members and sexual partners.

ii). Contact with live and dead animals through hunting and consumption of wild game or bush meat are known risk factors.

iii). Monkeypox can be transmitted by droplet exposure via exhaled large droplets and by contact with infected skin lesions or contaminated materials.

iv). The incubation period of monkeypox is usually from 6 to 13 days but can range from 5 to 21 days.

v). The disease is often self-limiting with symptoms usually resolving spontaneously within 14 to 21 days.

vi). Symptoms can be mild or severe, and lesions can be very itchy or painful. The animal reservoir remains unknown, although is likely to be among rodents.

Deputy Minister Nabbed Over Inputs

Deputy Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement, Douglas Karoro, has been arrested on allegations of diverting to personal use farming inputs from Presidential inputs schemes.

Karoro reportedly grabbed 700 bags of fertiliser, US$18 000 worth of maize seed and 5 000 vegetable seed kits and sold them.

The inputs came from the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) Mushumbi Pools Depot in Mbire, Mashonaland Central Province, and were intended for farmers.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi Thursday night said three people suspected to be his runners were also arrested.

What transpired:

a). The state alleges that last month, Karoro approached Jeremy Phiri and told him that he was looking for buyers for 700 bags of Compound D fertiliser at US$16 per 50kg bag.

b). Phiri allegedly contacted Widdorn Chiodza, who was interested in buying the fertiliser.

c). On April 21, Phiri met Chiodza who handed over US$10 700, almost the full price.

d). Phiri then allegedly took this money to Karoro, who told him that the fertiliser was at GMB Mushumbi Depot.

e). Karoro called depot manager Ngowe and told him that he was sending trucks to collect his Compound D.

f). Ngowe allegedly asked for details of the trucks and was given contact details for Dean Zimunya and the following day Zimunya took Chiodza and three trucks to Mushumbi Pools Depot and loaded the 700 x 50kg bags of fertiliser, with Ngowe issuing goods dispatched vouchers in the name of Karoro.

g). Chiodza is said to have returned to Harare and offloaded the fertiliser at his place in Kuwadzana.

h). The following day, Chiodza allegedly received a call from Zimunya telling him to return the fertiliser saying the deal had gone sour.

i). Chiodza refused, whereupon Zimunya and Karoro allegedly then engaged Mugove Chidamba to help them recover the fertiliser from Chiodza.

j). After negotiations on April 24, Chidamba managed to recover 400 bags and refunded Chiodza US$6 400.

k). Karoro and Chidamba allegedly hired transporter Richard Tsiga to ferry the recovered 400 bags to GMB Aspindale purporting that they wanted to swap it with Ammonium Nitrate. To get the full 700 bags Chidamba went out and bought another 300 bags of Compound D from Farm & City.

l). Karoro allegedly personally escorted Tsiga with a truck loaded with 400 bags of Compound D fertiliser to GMB Aspindale for the first part of the swap deal. However, GMB Aspindale refused to accept the fertiliser on the grounds that the documentation was not properly done.

m). Karoro intervened and negotiated for the swap with the Aspindale GMB chain supply manager Obert Zhoya who then instructed Ngowe at Mushumbi to raise a depot-to-depot transfer so that they could accept the fertiliser at GMB Aspindale, which Ngowe did and sent the paperwork to Aspindale, which then accepted the 400 bags.

n). Tsiga’s truck was then loaded with 400 AN bags and he was sent to GMB Mushumbi depot, but they never arrived and this was when the whole deal started unravelling.

o). The matter came to light later when Karoro allegedly sent another truck with the extra 300 bags of Compound D bought commercially in Harare to GMB Aspindale for the second half of the swap.

p). This time Aspindale opted to use their own truck to ferry the swapped 300 bags of AN to GMB Mushumbi with a depot-to-depot transfer voucher.

q). On April 29, Ngowe confirmed receipt of the 300 bags of AN from GMB Aspindale. But that was when GMB Aspindale’s chain supply manager Zhoya quizzed Ngowe on the whereabouts of the first truck which was loaded with 400 bags of AN destined for Mushumbi depot. He was told it never arrived.

r). GMB Aspindale asked Karoro to return those 400 bags of AN to GMB Aspindale, as the swop had not taken place. Karoro contacted Tsiga, who told him that the fertiliser was offloaded at Chidamba’s place where it had been sold.

s). Karoro then went to Mbare and recovered 200 bags of AN, before engaging Tsiga to take them back to GMB Aspindale and asking Chidamba to look for the remaining 200 bags of AN.

t). On April 30, Chidamba went to Dzivaresekwa where he bought 69 bags of cotton calcium AN and 132 bags of calcium AN, which were then transported back to GMB Aspindale in the presence of Karoro.

The stolen fertilisers were worth US$27 300 and 501 bags of fertiliser, suspected to be fake, were recovered.

On the maize seed dealings, Ngowe received seed maize worth US$18 030 in March which was meant for Presidential Input Programme to benefit the Mbire Constituency.

The Herald reports he allegedly connived with Karoro and they converted the seed to their own use.

In March, Karoro allegedly received 5 000 vegetable combo kits from Valley Seeds (Private) Limited, which were supposed to be handed over to GMB Mushumbi under the Presidential Inputs Programme. He that Karoro connived with Ngowe and they converted the seed to their own use.

Karoro and Ngowe ordered GMB Mushumbi depot inputs clerk, Honesty Nyathi and security guard, Manyara Manuwere, to fraudulently book the consignment to appear as if it had been received and despatched to Karoro.

Three Pupils Electrocuted

By A Correspondent- Three learners from Kweneng Primary School in Mangwe, Matabeleland South, were electrocuted Tuesday by collapsed electricity cables in an incident that villagers blame on the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA)’s negligence.

The cables are said to have been down since 2020 following the collapse of supporting poles and villagers say numerous reports made to ZESA about the matter have not yielded any fruit to date.

This is not the first time people in the area around Ingwizi have been electrocuted by the same cables as two more incidents have been recorded earlier.

The three learners (aged 8, 9, and 10) whose sexes could not be immediately established, are receiving treatment at the United Bulawayo Hospitals.

Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Loveness Mangena confirmed the incident adding investigations were underway.

“The incident occurred on 17 May 2022 between 1300 to 1400 hours,” said Mangena.

“They (children) were coming from Kweneng Primary School on their way home. So along the way, they were electrocuted by two ZESA overhead cables that connect Ingwizi centre and Kweneng Primary School, which had fallen down. The case was reported to ZRP Mphoengs and the victims were ferried to Brunapeg Hospital where they were later transferred to UBH and their condition is said to be serious.”

Ingwizi villagers who spoke to CITE had no kind words for the power utility

“These cables have been lying down for more than two years now,” said one villager

He said they had spoken to the ZESA person on the ground and even reached out to their provincial and regional offices in Gwanda and Bulawayo respectively to no avail.

“They have not been willing to help us,” he decried.

“In fact, this line from Gwanda to Ingwizi is a problem and these ZESA people do not want to help us. These people are very negligent. Even here in Bulu, we have a line from Patse turn-off to Mphoengs, poles are also down.

He added: “We are sick and tired of these ZESA people. We have an electricity connection but it is as good as a useless white elephant. Once power lines fall, they come and dismantle to terminate the line and stay for a very long time without fixing the fault.”

ZESA public relations officer, Prisca Utete requested that questions be sent to her via WhatsApp, which was done, only for her to say, “Noted.”

However, when a follow-up was made she did not respond.

Mawarire Exposes Zanu PF

By-Journalist-cum- politician Jealousy Mawarire has exposed the failures of Local Government Minister July Moyo to capacitate the Harare City Council.

July Moyo is a senior Zanu PF Member.

Mawarire, at the weekend, posted pictures of uncollected garbage at the Charge office in the CBD. Harare city council is failing to provide service delivery because Moyo is not allocating the local authority enough resources.

He posted:
Whoever is responsible for ensuring our city is clean, whether it’s CCC led council or Minister July Moyo, pliz musatijairira, just clean up this mess! We can’t have this in the city centre at Charge Office along Angwa Street, No! No!

Mnangagwa Fails To Rig Economy

By- The consumer basket for a family of six (6) has increased by $22000 in May up from $98 000 recorded in April.

According to the Consumer Council of Zimbabwe’s (CCZ) latest report, the monthly basket for a family of six (6) now stands at $120 83.

This has been caused by the Zanu PF government’s bad economic policies.

Mnangagwa Has Failed

By-CCC President, Nelson Chamisa, said the rising cost of living results from Zanu PF’s failure to run the country.

Chamisa said the solution is in the ballot box next year.

CCC posted on social media, urging people to register to vote and remove Zanu PF from power.

Posted CCC:

The URGENCY of the Zimbabwean situation requires robust, brave, radical & proactive responses, solutions & actions. A CCC govt will offer a smart response with actions & solutions to the current economic crisis.

Zanu PF Activists Target Chinotimba

By- The police have blocked Zanu PF activists from staging a demonstration against Buhera South Member of Parliament Joseph Chinotimba.

Zanu PF activists, Wednesday, had planned to march to the party’s Buhera district offices at Murambinda growth point but were blocked by the police.

Chinotimba angered Zanu PF activists after a leaked video circulated on social media platforms in which he alleged that President Emmerson Mnangagwa was planning to remove him from Parliament.

The outspoken MP made the remarks while addressing party supporters in Muchini village, Ward 29 in Buhera South. Chinotimba said:

I have put electricity in most areas in my constituency and I have not stopped … now Mnangagwa wants to send his people to remove me. This country was fought for by war veterans.

On Monday, a Zanu PF youth group calling itself the Zimbabwe Revolutionary and Patriotic Youth Network wrote a letter on Monday demanding an explanation from Chinotimba. They accused him of undermining the President.

The letter was written by the group’s secretary for external affairs, Tendai Nyikadzino and addressed to newly-elected Zanu PF youth leader John Paradza.

Zanu PF Manicaland provincial leadership led by Mike Madiro reportedly ordered the police to block the demonstration.

However, Madiro refused to comment to NewsDay on the matter while Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Manicaland Province Inspector Nobert Muzondo said he was not aware of the demonstration.

“KEEP THEM GUESSING & TOSSING, STEWING & ROASTING! THROW THEM OFF BALANCE…

Remember they infiltrate, manipulate and capture using 4 things…1.Structures 2.internal Processes 3.Law-fare 4.Ambitious/hungry characters.

Effects Of Formula Milk

Zanu PF Heavyweight Succumbs To Kidney Failure

ZANU PF Bulawayo Province has announced the death of party provincial commissar Ruth Shelton.

Shelton succumbed to kidney failure on Wednesday.

ZANU PF Bulawayo provincial secretary for information and publicity, Archie Chiponda, said:

“Bulawayo province has suffered a great loss of our provincial commissar Ruth Shelton.

In fact, ZANU PF countrywide has suffered a great loss of a dedicated and vibrant cadre.

She is somebody who served at provincial level both as a youth and now in the main wing.

The party both provincially and country wide will really feel this loss of a hard-working commissar. She was a good politician and good person.

Ruth was known for her vibrancy, honesty and ever having a smile on her face hence her nickname vatete vemsangano.

No one in ZANU PF particularly in Bulawayo and probably countrywide would say they didn’t know her.”

Mourners are gathered at 13409 Pumula South. Shelton is survived by her daughter. – The Sunday News

Basic Commodities Disappear

By- Basic commodities such as cooking oil have virtually disappeared from shop shelves as the monthly food basket shot to $120 000.

The Consumer Council of Zimbabwe (CCZ) yesterday said a family of five now required $120 000 a month to survive, up from $98 000 in April as the local currency tumbles and prices of basics and services skyrocket.

“The monthly bread basket for a family of six now stands at $120 834. The rise in the prices has been influenced by speculation where consumers created shortages as they hoarded commodities following the announcement of the bank lending ban by President Emmerson Mnangagwa,” CCZ spokesperson Christopher Kamba said.
The majority of workers in the private and public sectors are earning less than half
the figure, with civil servants now pushing for United States dollar salaries.
“This created artificial shortages and when the demand is high, the price will always go up. The economic measure put in place by the government to allow citizens to import goods and services will not necessarily see the price of the family basket going down, but it will stabilise the prices of basic commodities,” Kamba added.
Government has put in place measures aimed at stabilising the economy, including allowing ordinary citizens to import basic commodities.

However, Oil Expressers Association of Zimbabwe (OEAZ) chairperson Busisa Moyo said acute shortages of cooking oil were likely to persist for a very long time.
The OEAZ is a grouping of seven producers who supply 95% of the country’s edible oils.
“The shortages have been exacerbated by shortage of crude oil on the international market. The other thing is that the farmers are still harvesting their grains, so there is also a shortage of inputs,” Moyo said.

“However, the main reason is shortage of foreign currency. We have been saying the auction system is not working.”
Confederation of Retailers Association of Zimbabwe president Denford Mutashu said: “There is a general global shortage of cooking oil arising from the geopolitical impact of the Russia-Ukraine war as supply chains have been disrupted. We ought to invest locally and reduce the dependency.”
The shortages of basics evoke bad memories of 2008 when shop shelves were empty when the country was hit by record breaking hyperinflation of 500 billion percent.
Inflation is currently racing away and is at 94% as of last month.
Lands, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Development minister Anxious Masuka in January said Zimbabwe was importing between 55 000 and
65 000 tonnes of crude sunflower oil from South Africa annually.
National Consumer Rights Association co-ordinator Effie Ncube said government needed to adopt a stronger currency to protect consumers from over pricing and price disparities.

Govt In Desperate Move To Block Nurses From Leaving For Greener Pastures

Government has tightened screws on nurses wishing to resign from the civil service as it battles to stem the massive exodus of health workers.

Hundreds of nurses are leaving the country for greener pastures following government’s failure to remunerate them fairly and improve their working conditions.

The exodus has almost brought the country’s health delivery to its knees.

Last month, government hiked fees for verification letters, a prerequisite for nurses to be employed in foreign countries, from US$150 to US$300.

The US$300 cannot be paid at its equivalent in the local currency.

To complete the verification process, nurses now have to go through numerous office stopovers, which can take up to five months for them to get the verification letters from the Nurses Council of Zimbabwe.

Nurses told NewsDay that the process was cumbersome, adding that it was a government ploy to discourage them from resigning.

They said public health institutions were under-staffed, while in some cases nurse aides constitute the highest nursing staff complement.

Health secretary Jasper Chimedza yesterday confirmed that nurses were leaving the country for greener pastures in droves, but referred further questions to the Health Services Board (HSB) and the ministry’s public relations department.

“Yes, nurses are leaving,” Chimedza said. “As to what the government is doing to resolve that, the national Health Service Board will respond. Send further questions to the public relations department,” he added.

For the past three years, nurses have been fighting with Chimedza and Vice-President and Health minister Constantino Chiwenga, who they accuse of running the ministry military style since they were all former army officers.

Nurses have been engaging in endless strikes, demanding improvement of wages.

To avert further strikes by health personnel, Chiwenga introduced the Health Services Amendment Bill, which seeks to bar health professionals from participating in strikes.

The Bill has, however, been heavily criticised as undemocractic.

Zimbabwe Nurses Association president Enock Dongo said: “Nurses have lost hope that the government will address their grievances as the authorities had shut them out from dialogue, hence the massive exodus.

For almost two years now, despite the various grievances that the nurses have, we have not had an opportunity to talk to the authorities.”

He said Chiwenga and Chimedza were not ready to entertain the health workers.

“They are difficult to reach. Nurses are heavily disgruntled, but they are defying the odds despite attempts by government to bar them from resigning. Due to the cumbersome process to get verification letters, nurses are resigning to be employed as nurse aides abroad. Some are selling their property just to get the US$300 to pay for the verification letter,” Dongo said.

He said some countries were considering waiving demands for verification letters.

Karoi Local Authority Bosses Nabbed By ZACC

By A Correspondent- Karoi acting town secretary Tongai Namisala has been charged with criminal abuse of office alongside housing director Admire Jimu following their arrest by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC).

Namisala and Jimu appeared before Karoi magistrate Moreblessing Makate who remanded them out of custody on $50 000 and $20 000 respectively.

It is also alleged that sometime in 2019 an advert for the sale of industrial stand number 2381 was placed in the local newspaper.

According to the Karoi town housing policy, the stand was supposed to be sold through a tender process.

However, Namisala went on to acquire Industrial stand number 2381 without going to tender.

In May 2020, Namisala paid $12 678.75 for the industrial stand.

According to the State, Namisala, being the substantive director of finance when he acquired the stand, acted unprocedurally as the stand was supposed to be sold through a tender process.

Namisala is also accused of acquiring a number of commercial stands in 2010 under questionable circumstances.

Jimu is also accused of criminal abuse of office.

It is alleged on April 25, Jimu wrote a letter to the housing director directing that stand number 7892 Flamboyant infill be allocated to Tawanda Madondo.

It is alleged on the same day, Madondo paid $ 100 000 to the council before he was even allocated the stand.

He paid another $100 000 on April 26.

The housing director however refused to authorise the sale of the stand citing unprocedural issues.

Madondo was then allocated the stand without the knowledge of Mujuruki

Wadyajena Workers Barred From Borrowdale Brooke

By A Correspondent- Security at Borrowdale Brooke has blocked Gokwe-Nembudziya MP Justice Mayor Wadyajena’s construction workers from entering the estate.

This came a day after the High Court granted the Zanu-PF lawmaker full access to the residence.

Wadyajena approached the High Court after he was denied full access to the residence, including having his vehicle tags deactivated and being forced to use the visitors entrance.

He has written to lawyers representing Borrowdale Estate Residents Association, Mangezi, Nleya and Partners, protesting over the decision to bar his construction workers from entering the premises.

“The barring of our client’s construction workers is unlawful as our client is in full compliance with the estate’s architectural and planning regulations,” Wadyajena’s lawyers Machingura Legal Practitioners wrote.

If your client insists on the contrary, then we challenge your client to the strictest proof of its claim. We also challenge your client to produce our client’s master file kept at the estate association offices within 24 hours hereof so that its contents are inspected and the duly approved plans, submitted several years back, are uplifted.”

Wadyajena threatened to approach the High Court if his construction workers were denied entrance to the premises within 24 hours.

“Further, in the event that our client’s building contractors are not allowed to enter the estate and continue with their work within 24 hours hereof, our client shall approach the High Court on an urgent basis, seeking appropriate relief,” the lawyers wrote.

“The cost thereof, and any financial prejudice our client may suffer as a result of yours’ unlawful conduct, will no doubt be for your client’s account. Be warned accordingly.”

Wadyajena is at loggerheads with the residents association after he was reprimanded for disorderly conduct and making noise with his vehicles at night, disturbing the peace of other residents.-newsday

Kereke Heads Back To Court

By A Correspondent- Convicted child rapist Munyaradzi Kereke is heading back to court to hear his appeal against sentence and conviction at the Supreme Court.

The former Bikita West Member of Parliament and adviser to former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor Gideon Gono is serving a 10-year jail sentence after four were conditionally set aside.

Kereke was accused of raping his 11-year-old niece at gunpoint.

NewsDay gathers that his record is now with the High Court for inspection. The victim’s lawyer Charles Warara has already inspected the record, and signed it.

This was after the High Court Registrar sent an invitation to both parties to inspect the record on May 9 this year.

They were given a 10-day deadline to inspect and sign it.

He was granted $500 000 bail by Supreme Court judge Justice Mwayera in August 2021 pending appeal following his conviction in 2016 by Harare magistrate Noel Mupeiwa.

Kereke was found guilty of raping his niece, but was acquitted on the other count of indecent assault purportedly committed against his older
niece.

Kereke denied the offence saying the lower court erred and misdirected itself on several grounds he proposed in the notice of appeal he filed before the High Court.

But Warara proved that Kereke raped the minor at gunpoint and she did not tell anyone about it.

Kereke’s legal battle had many twists and turns until he was convicted after his case had been parked for six years at the Prosecutor-General’s Office.

His case was a landmark case to be privately prosecuted.

Kereke’s case had to proceed through private prosecution after the then Prosecutor-General Johannes Tomana refused to prosecute him, claiming there was no evidence linking him to the offence.

MDC T Stalwarts Fume Over Removal Of Larney Maho

By A Correspondent- MDC-T officials in Bulawayo Province are not happy with the removal of Larney Maho who was nominated as the MDC Alliance public relations person in Parliament.

Senior party member Alex Gumede told Southern Eye that Maho’s removal and the imposition of another candidate by some top officials were unprocedural.

Said Gumede:

Party president Douglas Mwonzora sent an envoy to Bulawayo to deal with the matter.

However, the team was told lies and misled. The top leadership should learn to respect the electorate and supporters.

If they ignore this issue we will demonstrate until they resolve the matter.

We are currently writing a petition and we are going to hand it over to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, the MDC Alliance and the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission.

UK Based Zim Couple Establish Recruitment Agency

By A Correspondent- A Zimbabwean nursing couple based in the United Kingdom has established a recruitment agency targeting Zimbabwe’s health workers.

Mqondisi and Shine Ndebele established a recruitment agency, “GoodNews For Life” targeting Zimbabweans from Bulawayo and Matabeleland region in particular.

They registered their organisation with the National Health Services (NHS), which handles health workers’ employment issues in the UK.

Shine, who is the company’s chief executive officer, said Zimbabwean health workers have over the years fallen prey to fraudsters. She said:

My husband and I are nurses and we came here last year. While I came to the UK on a spousal visa, meaning I didn’t face many challenges as my husband was already here, his experiences are what prompted us to start this company.

He spent almost a year trying to get a reputable organisation to bring him here, which causes a lot of desperation.

So from those experiences, we realised that there is a gap that exists that can be exploited.

So, we decided to set up our own agency. Most of the recruitment agencies are not run by Zimbabweans and this is part of the problem that we want to address.

She urged her compatriots to exercise due diligence before migrating to other countries for economic opportunities to avoid being exploited by human traffickers.

Said, Shine:

If someone is offered a job, they should make sure they thoroughly check if the company that is offering them employment opportunities is in existence, is registered and all the necessary information.

These days through information communication technology it is easier to conduct background checks on organisations for their authenticity.

There is no need to rush, people have to be patient because as a result of the pressure of seeing others leaving some people end up being desperate and falling into wrong hands.

We have heard of cases where people end up getting into trouble while trying to seek employment outside the country.

She said they will be recruiting nurses, social workers, radiographers, scientists and health care assistants in line with the NHS expectations.

Ethanol Content Raise Fails To Stop Fuel Price Hike

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has increased ethanol blending from 10 to 15 percent but the move did little to stop another round or fuel price hikes.

In the local ZWL, diesel now costs ZWL$499.56 while petrol is selling at ZWL$481.02.

Victory For CCC Linked Businessman

By A Correspondent-  Kadoma businessman linked to the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has been given the nod by the courts to return to his rented shop after he was evicted for supporting the opposition.

Nicholas Marufu recently filed an application for spoliation against a Kadoma businesswoman Memory Simango at the Kadoma Magistrates Court after Simango evicted him from the butchery for his links with the CCC party.

Marufu then sought a court order to compel her to allow him access to the shop and refrigerators.

He cited Simango and the messenger of court as respondents.

The court granted the application and ruled that Simango should immediately, upon receiving the interim order, restore Marufu’s access to the shop for full operation pending her application to oppose the ruling.

The interim court order dated May 11 states: “A rule nisi returnable to the court sitting at Kadoma on May 27, matter may be heard calling upon respondent to show cause if any, why a final order should not be made that the first respondent (Simango) be, and is hereby ordered to allow applicant and his agents possession and undisturbed occupation, use of the refrigerators, butchery and shed at Tandara Shops, Prison Turnoff, Ingezi, Kadoma.”

The court further stated that Simango be ordered to allow applicant access to utilities essential to run his business. She was also ordered to meet the costs of the suit.

The interim court order noted that the landlady should remove any impediments that may hinder Marufu’s access to the shop and utilities and remove padlocks from the refrigerators.

It further stated that if she defied the order, the messenger of court would be ordered to enlist the services of a locksmith and a welder to use force to remove all impediments to allow Marufu to operate.

Simango should respond to the ruling by May 27. However, on Wednesday, Marufu said she had already complied with the interim order.

“Sanity has finally prevailed; Simango has complied with the court order. She is no longer preventing me from operating,” Marufu said.

He said the problem started on April 23 when CCC supporters were seen buying meat from his butchery while wearing party regalia. Following the incident Marufu was then given notice to vacate the property.

Simango, however, disputed Marufu’s claims, accusing him, instead, of being a bad tenant.

“He has not been paying rent for four months. He is supposed to pay US$50, but is failing to do so. People also complained that the business premises were being used for political gatherings.

“I called him to discuss the matter, but he failed to turn up. I later locked the fridge at the shop hoping that he would come to meet me so that we could talk, but he did not. He, instead, shamelessly went to the shop and broke the fridge lock. He is a problem. Worse still, he has no butchery or shop licence; he rides on mine,” Simango said.-newsday

Tongaat Hulett Zim Raises Workers’ Salaries

By A Correspondent- Tongaat Hulett Zimbabwe (THZ) was recently forced to raise its workers’ salaries after the workers set unripe sugarcane on fire after salary negotiations reached a deadlock.

According to The NewsHawks, plantations in Area 1 and 2 with various sections including 2, 9 and 13 saw several unripe sugarcane fields being torched between 3 and 4 May.

The company had to harvest the burnt unripe sugarcane which was eight-month-old. Under normal circumstances, sugarcane is harvested after 12 months

Just two days after the fire, THZ called a meeting with three unions representing the workers and it raised the salaries of all workers by 73.8%. The increase was backdated to 1 April this year.

The lowest-paid worker in grade A1 is now getting a monthly salary of ZW$54 000 and the highest-paid worker in grade B5 is now getting ZW$126 997.69.

THZ signed an agreement signed with the Zimbabwe Sugar Milling Industry Employers’ Association, Zimbabwe Sugar Milling Industry Workers’ Union (ZISMIWU), Sugar Production and Milling Industry Workers’ Union of Zimbabwe (SPAMWUZ), Sugar Milling and Allied Workers’ Union of Zimbabwe and the National Employment Council for the Zimbabwe sugar milling industry on 6 May 2022.

SPAMWUZ secretary-general Adonia Mutero confirmed the agreement to The NewsHawks. He said:

I can confirm that the employer agreed to increase our wages by 73.8%, which is way below what we were expecting.

Our situation was worsened by the removal of the foreign currency component from our salaries.

We were receiving part of our salaries in foreign currency for two or three years but that was removed late last year and the employer is saying it removed it after a directive from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe.

We are aware that some of the sugarcane plantations in Triangle were torched, but as unions, we cannot tell the identities of the assailants, but truly speaking workers were angry.

We will continue lobbying for better pay which will allow us to live a decent life since the current salaries will see most of the workers living in poverty.

The NewsHawks reported a senior THZ employee as saying the company was offering ZW$37 000 for the lowest grade but later settled for ZW$54 000 after the unexpected fires.

Said the official:

The company acted quickly after the fires but they wanted to play down the issue as if the fire was targeting ripe fields which were ready for harvesting.

I can tell you that fire tenders were mobilised in a bid to put out the fire, but surprisingly they called unions for the continuation of the negotiations where they offered more than what they were offering.

This increment is nothing because we are now only getting the local currency.

At its peak, Tongaat Hulett Zimbabwe had 19 000 employees, making it the country’s single biggest employer outside the government.

Chinotimba Apologised To Mnangagwa Over Leaked Video

Underfire loudmouth Buhera South Member of Parliament Joseph Chinotimba has reportedly apologised to President Emmerson Mnangagwa over a leaked video in which he was heard attacking him for allegedly orchestrating his removal from his position.

Chinotimba’s utterances in the video angered Zanu-PF supporters who planned a demonstration at the Buhera district offices at Murambinda on Wednesday saying he had disrespected the President.

The demonstrations, however, flopped after police cordoned off the area.Sources in the ruling Zanu-PF party told NewsDay yesterday that Chinotimba has since apologised to Mnangagwa. This also followed a leaked video and photos of Chinotimba together with Mnangagwa.

“Yes, Chinotimba has apologised to President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House, after he was put under pressure.  Mnangagwa might have accepted the apology,” the source said.”

Remember Mnangagwa is a crocodile. He clapped hands when he was savaged by the former First Lady Grace Mugabe and he even went on to give a vote of thanks at one of the events.

Remember former Manicaland Provincial Affairs minister Mandi Chimene also enjoyed directly attacking Mnangagwa, but where is she now?”The source added that it was possible for Mnangagwa to pretend that he has forgiven Chinotimba, but could eventually act.

Contacted for comment on the issue yesterday, Chinotimba refused to say much, insisting that he did nothing wrong.

“I know nothing about the demonstration. Please ask those people who were behind the demonstration to give you a response.

On the issue of me apologising, l don’t know because l have never done anything wrong. I have no comment,” Chinotimba said.

33 Schools record Zero Passrate

By A Correspondent- Thirty-three (33) schools in Manicaland Province recorded a zero per cent pass rate during the 2021 Ordinary Level ZIMSEC examination.

This was actually an improvement as forty-five (45) secondary schools in the province recorded a zero per cent pass rate in 2020.

Manicaland Deputy Provincial Education Director (Secondary Schools), Charles Muganhu said most of the schools with a zero per cent pass rate are satellite schools. He said:

It is a complicated matter – we have 33 secondary schools with a zero per cent pass rate, and as a result, a comprehensive approach is needed to evaluate the situation and intervene so as to eradicate the zero per cent pass-rate cancer.

Most of the affected schools are satellite schools. They are still upcoming and are confronted with serious infrastructural and operational challenges.

Some of them are not yet registered and do not have substantive administrative structures which means that they are manned by ordinary teachers.

This is unacceptable because parents are not getting the expected returns on their investments after a four-year cycle.

Muganhu said the onset of COVID-19 contributed to pupils’ poor performance as they lagged behind due to lost learning time during the national lockdowns. Said Muganhu:

We are visiting each of these schools to see how best we can help them and ultimately eradicate the zero per cent pass rate. We cannot prescribe a one-size-fits-all solution if we are to increase our pass rate.

In fact, our vision as a ministry is zero tolerance for zero per cent pass rates. It means that as a ministry we must provide quality, relevant and wholesome education which makes sure that all our learners pass, and there is no school that should record a zero per cent pass rate.

After the tour, we will then implement befitting strategies to eradicate the zero per cent pass rate.

We expect our teachers to put extra tutorial support, learners to pull up their socks and commit to studying, while parents play their part at home to ensure that every child excels.

Chamisa Hints On New Tactics Of Booting-Out Mnangagwa

By-Citizens Coalition for Change President Nelson Chamisa said he will keep Zanu PF guessing how his party will choose candidates for the 2023 elections.

Chamisa said this Friday, responding to recent stories claiming that Zanu PF wanted CCC to hold primary elections and use the chance to infiltrate the movement.

CCC has since announced that it would not hold primary elections but would have leaders chosen by the communities.

Posted Chamisa on Twitter:

Kazembe admits Police Demanding Bribes

By-Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe said that the most effective way to deal with corruption is for members of the public to stop paying bribes.

Speaking in the Senate on Thursday, Kazembe admitted that corruption was pervasive within the Zimbabwe Republic Police but unwittingly blamed the public for abetting corruption in the police force by paying bribes. Said Kazembe:
Yes, corruption is indeed a scourge and it’s totally unacceptable. I do admit that we do have some rogue cops amongst the police.
Not every cop is corrupt but definitely yes, that issue is there and it’s a challenge.
It’s illegal and it should be dealt with. There is no way one person can be corrupt by themselves, it takes two or more to corrupt.
This then points to citizens – we are aiding corruption; police cannot corrupt themselves.
If they are corrupt, it’s because they are being paid by us. If we all take collective action and say we don’t want corruption, it will end today. Nobody will offer a bribe to the police.
The latest Transparency International Zimbabwe (TIZ) national bribe payers index study for 2021 ranked ZRP as the country’s most corrupt government department.

Nyaradzo In Trouble Over Mutilated Corpse

By-The family of a deceased 46-year-old woman is demanding answers from Nyaradzo Funeral Services after her body was found with a sliced lip and disfigured nose.

The deceased woman, Patricia Mhizha (46), of Zvishavane, died last Saturday.

Mhizha’s burial was delayed after her family realised, upon collection of her body from Nyaradzo, that it had a sliced lower lip and a disfigured nose.

Patricia’s twin brother, Patrick Mhizha, told ZimLive that his sister had battled heart disease for 14 years until her death. He said:

They cut her lip off and it’s sad because I’m the one who attended to my sister when she died.

We identified her and her body was intact before Nyaradzo took her remains to Harare.

Nyaradzo called us on Sunday informing us that the body had arrived safely and that we should bring blankets and clothes for the dressing.

On Monday this week, at the Nyaradzo Herbert Chitepo branch, I was asked to verify an unusual defect on the corpse after my cousins had gone in first.

I was shocked to see my sister had her lip cut off and nose disfigured.

I asked them about it and the driver who took the body from Zvishavane denied knowing anything saying the corpse was transported in that state.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner, Paul Nyathi, confirmed receipt of a report from the bereaved family. He said:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has received a report involving a corpse at a funeral parlour, which is currently under investigation.

As police, we are appealing to members of the public and the media to allow the current enquiry process to proceed smoothly before meeting any conclusion.

Meanwhile, Nyaradzo Group released a statement on Tuesday saying the body was referred into its care from a hospital mortuary in Zvishavane on Sunday. Read the statement:

On the 15th day of May 2022, we transferred into our care, from a Government hospital mortuary in Zvishavane, the body of one female deceased who had passed on at a private medical centre in Zvishavane, albeit with lower lip and nose lacerations.

Collaborative efforts are underway between ourselves, her family, the place of initial care, the police as well as the forensic pathology unit to ascertain the facts of this.

Zanu PF Thugs Mobilise Against Chinotimba

Chamisa Supporters Killer Roasted On Social Media

By A Correspondent- Former Presidential guard commander Anselem Sanyatwe and his wife Chido have reported a case of cyber bullying.

This came out after a Nyanga district man appeared in court for allegedly harassing the two in a WhatsApp chat group.

Raymond Chari (39) from Ruwangwe, Nyanga, appeared before Mutare magistrate Perseverance Makala yesterday facing charges of cyberbullying and harassment as defined in the Data Protection Act.

He was granted $20 000 bail.
However, Chari, who was represented by lawyer Leonard Chigadza of Chigadza and Associates, is denying the charges.
Prosecutor Thurston Mubvumbi told the court that on May 14, Chari used unprintable words in a WhatsApp chat group insulting Chido and her husband.
They made a police report at Nyanga Police Station leading to his arrest.
Sanyatwe, a former Presidential guard commander, is the current Zimbabwean ambassador to Tanzania.
During August 1, 2018, post-election violence, he was the tactical commander of the force deployed to shoot opposition members protesting for the release of the July 31, 2018 elections. Sanyatwa’s troop killed six people on that day.

His wife is a Zanu-PF Nyanga North Member of Parliament.

“Repeal The Backward Sodomy Law”: GALZ

By Sofia Mapuranga- Homophobia rhetoric against LGBTIs is still prevalent in Zimbabwe and there is need to sensitise communities to unlearn these sentiments.

The late former president Robert Mugabe is on record publicly attacking LGBTIs describing them as worse than dogs.

Gays and Lesbians Zimbabwe (GALZ) programs director Sam Matsikure said stigma and discrimination instigated by community leaders had ripple effects on the lives of LGBTIs.

“The homophobia is still there and communities refer to the hate speech said by their leaders who shape opinion.

More needs to be done to sensitise communities to become tolerant and accept and co-exist with LGBTIs .”

According to GALZ, an association of LGBTI people in Zimbabwe established in 1990 to serve the needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex community , greater acknowledgement of sexual and gender diversity promotes and protects human rights.

Said the organisation in a statement on International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia on May 17:

“There is need for implementing tangible action towards inclusivity of all citizens regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression and sexual characteristics in civic processes.

Our plea is that government must ensure healthcare that is inclusive, adequate and affirming of all gender identities.

We also call on government to guarantee law enforcement that is dynamic and constantly learning for the avoidance of brutality over the sexuality of private citizens.”

The organisation also called for non-punitive laws based on the principles enshrined in the Bill of Rights.

“We ask for the revision of the Criminal Code and explicit repeal of the backward Sodomy law.

These few asks call for engagement with the communities in question to ensure their needs are met as citizens of Zimbabwe. Only then will the hard-won democracy espouse the spirit of the Constitution, and represent rights.

GALZ’s vision is “a just society that promotes and protects human rights of LGBTI people as equal citizens in Zimbabwe.

Lunga Ready To Shine In SA

Divine Lunga has vowed to fight for his place as a left-back in the Mamelodi Sundowns first team.

The defender was shifted to the centre-half position as a cover-up in the game against against Kaizer Chiefs nine days.

The game marked his first time he featured in a league match since November last year. The 26-year-old has made a mere eight appearances in the campaign plus three in the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup competitions.

There has been a thought Lunga might consider shifting to the central position permanently to plug the gap and get more chances to play.

But the Zimbabwe international doesn’t have ambitions to switch from left-back to centre-back.

“It’s football. I have to take any chance that’s given to me as a player irrespective of where I play but I am a left-back. The team had a problem where most of the centre-backs were injured, so I had to play as a centre-back to help the team because the team is [more] important than me. However, my aim is to fight for my position as a left-back,” Lunga told Sowetan.

The Warriors international admitted he is facing stiff competition from Lyle Lakay and Aubrey Modiba in the left-back position but believes this has helped him to push harder.

“I love competition. Lyle and Aubrey have been brilliant. Their brilliance has helped me not to relax. It’s hard to break into the XI at Sundowns but at the same time this stiff competition pushes you to work until you become a regular.

“Our target now is to win the Nedbank Cup to complete the treble. Sundowns is a big team in SA, so we must win each and every trophy available,” Lunga added.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Chamisa Is ‘A Pastor’ Not ‘A PowerStar’ Like ED And Jacob In The Bible: Mavaza

CCC leader, Nelson Chamisa is a very good pastor and not a ‘powerstar’ like Emmerson Mnangagwa and Jacob in the Bible, said analyst, Masimba Mavaza, in an emotive debate with whistleblower Sheperd Yuda on Thursday night.

Chamisa always goes after nice hot soup, while Mnangagwa targets the inheritance, Mavaza went on to suggest, while arguing that the CCC leader’s supporters should stop complaining about why Mnangagwa met the new Corby, UK mayor just after his inauguration last week. Mavaza further alleged that the CCC founder shuns away other politicians who have won elections outside the country.

Mavaza received his match from Yuda who questioned his comments and said CCC was not even in existence in 2021.

My Son Attacked By Goblins- Mahachi

Kudakwashe Mahachi told his sisters and a local pastor that his four-year-old son’s third-degree burns were a form of cancer that developed after the minor was assaulted by goblins.

Jabulani Nzimah-Ndlovu (Mfundisi Ndlovu) of Ekukhanyeni International Church of Christ in Cowdray Park suburb told B-Metro in an exclusive interview that one of Mahachi’s sisters called him to come and pray for the child soon after they realised that the minor was in a bad state.

Jabulani Nzimah-Ndlovu (Mfundisi Ndlovu) says Kuda Mahachi told him that his son had been attacked by goblins.

The sisters asked Mfundisi Ndlovu to intercede and pray for the child as Mahachi had made them believe that his son had cancer after he was beaten by goblins. Mfundisi Ndlovu says he found the child heavily bandaged.

I was called by Kuda Mahachi’s older sister after the child had been collected from a house in Emakhandeni suburb, where umalayitsha dropped him. They asked for my help because I am a pastor and I have always been there for the Mahachi family.

When I got there, the child was bandaged on the head and legs. I asked them what was happening and they said Mahachi told them the child had cancer and he convinced them that it was a result of goblins. I told them it’s not cancer, but burns and I advised them to take the child to hospital and to inform the child’s mother immediately.

I sent Mahachi a message and he said his son was hit by goblins. I told him that he was lying and he needed to say the truth, but he stuck to his story. Mahachi and his wife (Rose Mahachi) know what they did to the child and they should be honest with the world and stop playing games. I did not mince my words, I told him the goblin excuse was nonsense.

The church leader revealed that he interviewed the child and the minor told him without hesitation that his father had boiled water using a kettle and poured it on him.

The clergyman said the child’s mother, Maritha Ndlovu, her sisters and the grandmother had nothing to do with this.

Mfundisi Ndlovu also hit out at Prophet Blessing Chiza who claimed recently that the incident was a spiritual attack on Mahachi. He said:

Church leaders must not lie to people. Mahachi might be his spiritual son but he must condemn this. He has his reasons for standing with Mahachi but he must not lie to the nation about spiritual attacks. This was child abuse, nothing else and for him to say he believes Mahachi is ridiculous.

Mahachi declined to comment.- B-Metro

Basic Commodities Prices Soar As Economy Collapses

By-Prices of essential commodities are rising every day with the government failing to bring in solutions to the arrest the devaluating currency.

Fraudster Registering Intl Domains to Crook Zimbabweans

By Jacob Mutisi

Another fraudster has registered http://zimpassports.online to defraud Zimbabweans who are desperate for the elusive Zimbabwean passport. According to the website https://who.is whoever registered the domain zimpassports.online has decided to keep his/her identity hidden while they keep the domain active. The Zimbabwean government needs to move away from Zimbabwe’s beurractratic system that allows online fraudsters and hackers to take advantage of domains and domain extensions that have not been secured by the relevant organisations. More and more cyber criminals are registering, look-alike domains that are identical or nearly identical, slightly altered domain names, registered with intent to deceive their intended targets.

They are also taking advantage of domains where companies and organisations are not protecting their identities by registering domain extensions like .online , .com etc. Cybercriminals register hundreds of thousands of look-alike domains each year with the goal of impersonating legitimate organisations and making money, usually by committing fraud. These look-alike domains are used for a variety of attacks including creating or cloning fraudulent websites, web traffic diversion, malware delivery and phishing emails. Look-alike domains are created to mislead and to give clients the false impression that they are interacting with trusted organisations which results in financial losses, and data compromise for established enterprises. This process of creating a cyber attack is inexpensive, and if threat actors move quickly to evade detection, they can make a massive return on their time and money.

In Zimbabwe companies do not buy similar domains or domain extensions to protect the identity of their organisations and they should make it a priority to register their domains or domain extensions. For example, if you are OK Zimbabwe which currently uses www.okzim.co.zw they should buy www.ok.co.zw, www.ok.org, www.ok.com, www.ok.org.zw, www.ok.ac.zw, Zimtiles is using zimtile.com should buy zimtiles.com, zimtiles.co.zw and Schweppes which uses www.schweppes.co.zw should buy www.schweppes.org, www.schweppes.com, www.schweppes.store, Tvsales can also register www.tvsales.org and tvsales.store to secure their identity. SPAR is currently using www.spar.co.zw, can consider securing www.spar.com, www.spar.org and www.spar.store. The idea is to protect the identity of your company from email impersonators and fraudsters who will use it for phishing.

This is now a common cybercrime and is now so common and a major cyber threat to businesses. Some of the attacks are email-based impersonation scams or phishing. The attacking scheme involves cyber criminals mimicking business owners and executives through the use of phishing emails. With the recent news headlines https://www.herald.co.zw/hackers-fleece-supermarket-of-22m/ where TM pick n Pay lost $22million. The cybercriminal domain registered the www.tmsupermarkets.com and emails created to impersonate included the finance manager’s email address Raymond Matsetswa [email protected]. In most cases fraudsters or cyber criminals typically pose as personnel in positions of authority and ask their victims to perform money transfers, pay invoices, or to send the attacker sensitive data.

Zimbabwean companies should now make it a priority to protect their businesses by registering and buying domains and domain extensions. Cyber criminals are now on the lookout for Zimbabwean companies that do not have domain extensions that are protected. With the .com being the most sought after domain. Criminals can buy a .com in a space of 5 minutes clone the organisation website so that it looks like the original website and create the emails and they are ready to loot. The cyber criminal then in turn uses phishing. Phishing is a type of online scam where criminals impersonate legitimate organizations via email, text messages, advertisements or other means in order to steal from clients and collect sensitive information. This can be done by including a link that will take you to the company’s website to fill in your information, but the website is a clever fake and the information you provide goes straight to the criminal behind the scam.

In the case of http://zimpassports.online the intention of the cyber criminal is to trick their victims into making a payment but the person is actually paying into the scammers account. In some cases the scammers trick their victims into doing money transfers, or paying invoices to defraud a business. The idea may be to force you to send back sensitive data related to your business or your clients.

It is time for Zimbabwe’s organisations including government institutions to protect their online identities by registering their domains and domain extensions.

Zanu PF Byo Boss Dies

By- Zanu PF Bulawayo provincial political commissar Ruth Shelton has died.

Shelton succumbed to kidney failure on Wednesday.

Zanu PF Bulawayo provincial secretary for information and publicity, Archie Chiponda, said:

Bulawayo province has suffered a great loss of our provincial commissar Ruth Shelton.

No one in Zanu PF particularly in Bulawayo and probably countrywide would say they didn’t know her.

Mourners are gathered at 13409 Pumula South. Shelton is survived by her daughter.

Mnangagwa Junta Leader Humiliated

By A Correspondent- Former military commander Anselem Sanyatwe and his wife Chido are claiming to have been cyber-bullied.
