By- Zanu PF Bulawayo provincial political commissar Ruth Shelton has died.

Shelton succumbed to kidney failure on Wednesday.

Zanu PF Bulawayo provincial secretary for information and publicity, Archie Chiponda, said:

Bulawayo province has suffered a great loss of our provincial commissar Ruth Shelton.

In fact, Zanu PF countrywide has suffered a great loss of a dedicated and vibrant cadre.

She is somebody who served at provincial level both as a youth and now in the main wing.

The party both provincially and country wide will really feel this loss of a hard-working commissar. She was a good politician and good person.

Mnangagwa Junta Leader Humiliated

By A Correspondent- Former military commander Anselem Sanyatwe and his wife Chido are claiming to have been cyber-bullied.

This came out after a Nyanga district man appeared in court for allegedly harassing the two in a WhatsApp chat group.

Raymond Chari (39) from Ruwangwe, Nyanga, appeared before Mutare magistrate Perseverance Makala yesterday facing charges of cyberbullying and harassment as defined in the Data Protection Act.

He was granted $20 000 bail.
However, Chari, who was represented by lawyer Leonard Chigadza of Chigadza and Associates, is denying the charges.
Prosecutor Thurston Mubvumbi told the court that on May 14, Chari used unprintable words in a WhatsApp chat group insulting Chido and her husband.
They made a police report at Nyanga Police Station leading to his arrest.
Sanyatwe, a former Presidential guard commander, is the current Zimbabwean ambassador to Tanzania.
During August 1, 2018, post-election violence, he was the tactical commander of the force deployed to shoot opposition members protesting for the release of the July 31, 2018 elections. Sanyatwa’s troop killed six people on that day.

His wife is a Zanu-PF Nyanga North Member of Parliament.

Jonathan Moyo Savages ‘Unpresidential’ Mnangagwa

By A Correspondent| Professor Jonathan Moyo has mocked President Emmerson Mnangagwa saying each day he spends in office is proving to be costly to the country as he is unpresidential.

Mnangagwa has never ceased to amaze and give his opponents something to talk about through a series of blunders and diplomatic mistakes including appearing in a video drunk or being pictured with dubious personalities including Passion Java, Uebert Angel among others.

Posting on Twitter,Professor Moyo said everyone can now see that Mnangagwa is not presidential material.

“He’s a lot of things, some of which are unspeakably ugly, but one thing that everyone can now see beyond any doubt is that he is not presidential material; he is far from it, such that every day that goes by with him in that office is an unrecoverable loss to Zimbabwe’s recovery,” said Moyo.

The Rise Of Comedian Bhutsu

By A Correspondent| Gone are the days when the whole nation would wait for Mukadota, Gringo or Paraffin to crack their ribs on Monday nights during ZTV’s prime time drama series.

Kapfupi, Marabha and Bonjisi popularized street theatre.

Bhutsu

The internet has given birth to a new breed of comedians who thrive on producing video skits that are captivating and hilarious.

Through their P.O Box productions, Bhutisi and Kedha are probably the pioneers of this new type of comedy in Zimbabwe.

Bhutisi and Kedha caught the attention of the nation through their satirical skits which tackled several issues in society.

While Bhutisi and Kedha were still enjoying their time in the sun, another serious contender to their throne emerged from Epworth.

He was different from Bhutisi and Kedha who had graduated from film school.

He was raw and witty.

His first skit catapulted him to the limelight and a lot of companies stampeded to him to market their products. His name is Comic Pastor of the ‘shamhu’ fame.

However, as Bhutisi, Kedha and Comic Pastor grew their brands, they diverted into corporate emceeing.

Another comedian has been silently carving his name in the arts industry and his name is Garikai Chigaramadziro popularly known as Bhutsu.

Bhutsu has so far worked on two drama productions – Zvichazoveyi and Achaugara Ndiyani. He has several skits that have attracted viewers on his social media channels.

Bhutsu is a member of Tamba Madrama arts group which has been mesmerizing people at their weddings and private functions.

“I was born to entertain people. During my formative years at school, I was that popular kid who would make people laugh. Since then, I have never looked back. Acting makes me happy and I will continue to entertain people through my work,” Bhutsu.

The Mhondoro bred actor said his goal is to be a household name in the comedy industry.

“I am happy with the love and encouragement I am getting. My greatest wish is to be remembered as one of the greatest comedians Zimbabwe has ever produced,” he said.

“Industrial Action Will Cripple Education Sector”

By A Correspondent- The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has urged teachers’ unions to desist from embarking on industrial action to force the Government to address their grievances.

Unions representing teachers are reportedly planning a full-blown strike in protest over deductions of huge amounts from the salaries of educators who went on strike in February.

Thousands of teachers refused to report for duty when schools opened for the first term on 7 February citing incapacitation.

Primary and Secondary Education communications and advocacy director Taungana Ndoro told NewsDay that a strike by teachers will further disrupt learning in schools following disruptions caused by the novel coronavirus. Ndoro said:

We can’t afford to have another disruption from a job action after all those disruptions amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The issues should be resolved amicably.

The ministry does not encourage strikes to resolve the teachers’ concerns. The education system should thrive and it only thrives when children are learning in schools.

The teachers have their representatives who can sit down with the government and talk about their grievances.

There is a need for collaborative efforts to ensure that learners recover all the learning time lost during lockdowns.

In 2021, the Government announced that it was adopting the no-work no-pay policy after teachers went on strike.

This means that the Government will make deductions from the salaries of teachers who fail to report for duty without justification.

Public Service Commission (PSC) Permanent Secretary Jonathan Wutawunashe confirmed the deductions effected this month.

Zimbabwe Teachers Association (ZIMTA) chief executive officer Sifiso Ndlovu said that the PSC deducted between $11 000 and $17 000 from teachers.

Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe secretary-general Raymond Majongwe said that the PSC deducted up to $20 000 from the teachers’ salaries.-newsday

Zanu PF Reprimands Members

Zanu-PF members have been challenged to adhere to the party constitution when conducting party business.

Speaking at a workshop organised by Harare province meant to educate Harare provincial secretaries for administration from all structures, Zanu-PF Secretary for Administration Obert Mpofu said it is the constitution that builds the party.

“It is the constitution that builds the party. It is through the constitution that mould cardership of the party, it is through the constitution that the party becomes strong with a proper direction,” said Mpofu.

Mpofu was accompanied by Zanu-PF Director General Dickson Dzora.

The workshop takes place after the successful hosting of a similar workshop by the Matabeleland South Province in Beitbridge over the weekend.

He commended Harare province led by Goodwills Masimirembwa for organising the workshop, a platform meant to engage the leadership at all levels.

The operations of the party Mpofu said are guided by the constitution of the party.

He emphasised the importance of the Administration department as the leading organ in the professionalization of the party since the coming in of the New Dispensation.

When President Mnangagwa came into office 2017, he set up a permanent structure at the party headquarters to have full time members of the party.

Currently, the party is operating professionally, becoming an envy to the region.

He urged the party leadership to listen, learn, leave and love the people.

“We want leadership of unity, leadership of listening to your subordinates, leadership of respect to one another and dedication to the party,”.

The party is currently working towards mobilising 5 million voters ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections.

Mpofu said party leadership should not close the door for new membership.

“Since the dawn of the New Dispensation, the party is on a renewal, professionalisation trajectory as we move with the times. The Party needs to attract new members especially the youth and women as these constitute the majority of our country’s population demographics,”.

We should also bear in mind that because of our political foothold and resilience to all the socio-economic and political stresses and shocks, we have become so visible at a regional and global level such that we have attracted the wrath of our detractors,”.

“You should always be guided by the constitution in discharging your duties. The constitution is a tool for unity and allegiance to His Excellency President Mnangagwa and the party. When carrying party business, lets respect the constitution. You never go wrong if you follow the constitution,”

He called for unity of purpose among party members and wrestle Harare from the opposition and make it a Zanu-PF stronghold.

Zanu-PF Harare provincial chairman Masimirembwa said the province has embarked on a programme where they are inviting departmental heads of the party at national level to address various provincial structures.

“We want party members to interact with national leadership and at the same to learn from the national leadership of what is expected of them in their different portfolios,” he said.

Speaking at the same occasion, Dzora said the secretariat for administration is the cog of the party which directs, manages, coordinates, monitors, evaluates all programmes and activities implemented by the various wings

“The Administration department is the repository of the party and ensures that there is a seamless coordination in achieving party resolutions which are endorsed, be it at Congress, Conference, Central Committee and Politburo levels,” said Dzora.

Demo Against Chinotimba Flops

A demonstration meant to pressure the ruling Zanu-PF party to act on Buhera South Member of Parliament Joseph Chinotimba flopped yesterday.

The protest, which had been planned to take place at the party’s Buhera district offices at Murambinda growth point, failed to materialise as police cordoned off the area.

Zanu-PF supporters are baying for Chinotimba’s blood after a leaked video circulated on social media platforms, in which the vocal MP told party supporters in Muchini village, ward 29 in Buhera South that Mnangagwa was plotting to remove him from Parliament and ensure he does not retain his seat in 2023.

“I have put electricity in most areas in my constituency and I have not stopped … now Mnangagwa wants to send his people to remove me. This country was fought for by war veterans,” Chinotimba was heard saying.

This courted the ire of Zanu-PF youth group, the Zimbabwe Revolutionary and Patriotic Youth Network, which wrote a letter on Monday demanding an explanation from Chinotimba, whom they accused of undermining Mnangagwa.

The letter, written by the group’s secretary for external affairs, Tendai Nyikadzino, was addressed to newly-elected Zanu-PF youth leader John Paradza.

Yesterday, there was heavy police presence in Buhera in anticipation of the demonstration against the outspoken legislator.

There were reports that Zanu-PF Manicaland provincial leadership led by Mike Madiro ordered the police to block the demonstration. Madiro yesterday said: “I don’t want to comment on that, you can write what you want.”

Manicaland police spokesperson Inspector Nobert Muzondo said he was not aware of the demonstration.

Zim Teachers Paid $2 Over Strike?

By A Correspondent- Government has courted the ire of teachers after it reportedly deducted huge amounts from salaries of educators who went on strike when schools reopened last year.

NewsDay understands that some teachers got as little as $2 after the deductions.

The development has triggered anger among teachers, who are now planning a full-blown strike in protest over the deductions, which they said were in violation of the Constitution and labour laws.

Public Service minister Paul Mavima only said: “The issue of the deducted funds is purely an administrative issue. I deal with policy issues, so the Public Service Commission (PSC) is better placed to respond to your questions.”

Government last year announced that it was adopting the no-work no-pay policy after teachers went on strike to demand pre-2018 United States dollar salaries or its equivalent at the interbank rate.

Thousands of teachers were also suspended.

Efforts to get a comment from PSC secretary Jonathan Wutawashe were in vain as he was not taking calls.

Unions, however, accused government of victimising the educators for exercising their constitutional right to engage in job action demanding better salaries and improved working conditions.

Government has failed to provide payslips to civil servants for the past two months to enable them to see what has been deducted and why.

Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe secretary-general Raymond Majongwe said the teachers would challenge the no-work no-pay policy.

“We are not aware of the modalities that were used by the government as it deducted different funds on the teachers who were on strike during the same day,” he said.

“Government deducted up to $20 000 from the teachers’ salaries. I know of a teacher in Warren Park who got $2 as his salary. The issue will not go unchallenged. We are in the process of filing a paper against the act.”

Zimbabwe National Teachers Union chief executive Manuel Nyawo said: “What pains us most is that the deductions came as a shock and have left us poorer than before. We have written to seek clarification from the employer on why that move was taken outside our members’ knowledge. We are very bitter with the employer and we hope this is the first and last time we experience this worrisome and most painful development.”

The Zimbabwe Teachers Association (Zimta) also said it would “continue making noise” until government respected the teachers’ rights.

“We are very much alive to the concerns that have been raised by our members who did not get their salaries this month without any explanation from the employer,” Zimta secretary-general Goodwill Taderera said.

“As Zimta, we will not fold hands and watch. It is worrisome that in this case, PSC failed to follow the due process in charging members who it accused of misconduct.”

Primary and Secondary Education ministry spokesperson Taungana Ndoro said: “We can’t afford to have another disruption from a job action after all those disruptions amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Gvt Deducts Teachers’ Salaries Over Strike

The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has threatened a full-blown strike by teachers after the Government deducted salaries from teachers.

According to various teachers’ unions, the Public Service Commission (PSC) deducted between $11 000 and $17 000 from teachers’ salaries.

ARTUZ also claimed that the Government hiked salaries for soldiers at a time it was deducting the earnings of teachers who failed to report for duty in February due to financial incapacitation. ARTUZ said:

The Government] increased salaries for soldiers but deducted salaries from [teachers]. This provocation will force teachers to go on strike.

The threats and implementation of no work no pay will not stop a full-blown strike. We have waited for a solution but this Government doesn’t care.

On Monday, the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) said other Government employees (presumably soldiers), had been paid $80 000 each while teachers’ salaries were deducted. PTUZ said:

Teachers have just been deflated by salaries ranging from RTGS$5k-19k four days after other government employees got circa $80k.

The discrimination is resident evil type… Clearly, education matters very little.

PSC Permanent Secretary Jonathan Wutawunashe confirmed the deductions. He said:

It is true that Government is serious about the no work no pay principle because it is the only one that is fair to those who show up at work.

There’s no justice and there is no logic in treating the civil servant who reports for duty the same way you treat the one who does not show up.

Wadyajena Granted Freedom To Make Noise In Borrowdale Brooke

Gokwe-Nembudziya MP Justice Mayor Wadyajena (Zanu-PF) has won a case against the Borrowdale Brooke Homeowners Association (BBHOA) that was accusing him of violating rules governing the residence.

Wadyajena was sued by the association for disorderly conduct and making noise at night, disturbing the peace of other residents.

BBHOA chairperson Shingi Munyeza wrote a letter reprimanding the MP before the association deactivated his vehicle tags and relegated him to using the visitors’ entrance.

Wadyajena then sued the association saying his rights had been infringed.

After hearing the case, High Court judge Justice Never Katiyo ruled: “Whereupon after reading records filed of record and hearing counsel, it is ordered that by consent, the BBHOA shall immediately restore applicant’s access rights to the Borrowdale Brooke Estate by fully reactivating Wadyajena’s access tags. The BBHOA and its employees are hereby interdicted from deactivating Wadyajena’s access tags without following due process or the authority of a court order.”

The association had instituted disciplinary measures against the legislator.

But in a letter addressed to the BBHOA through his lawyers, Machingura Legal Practitioners, Wadyajena challenged the disciplinary measures saying they were “illegal and arbitrary”.

“My family and I continue to be inconvenienced because entering and leaving the estate as a visitor is unduly cumbersome because of the vetting and security checks,” Wadyejena submitted.

“To make matters worse, it appears that security personnel at the gate has received instructions to be extra tough with me as they try to make things difficult by asking frivolous and vexatious questions as if they never met or saw me before. Their goal is to embarrass me and this is an injustice a resident should not continue to suffer.”

Ex-army Chef Anselem Sanyatwe Cyber Bullied

By A Correspondent- Former military commander Anselem Sanyatwe and his wife Chido have been victims of cyber bullying after a Nyanga district man reportedly harassed them in a WhatsApp chat group.

The man, Raymond Chari (39) from Ruwangwe, Nyanga, appeared before Mutare magistrate Perseverance Makala yesterday facing charges of cyber bullying and harassment as defined in the Data Protection Act.

He was granted $20 000 bail.

Chari, who was represented by lawyer Leornard Chigadza of Chigadza and Associates, is, however, denying the charges.

During the August 1, 2018 post-election violence, he was the tactical commander of the force deployed to deal with demonstrations following the July 31, 2018 elections. Six people were killed.

Gokwe Pastor Killed After Reproaching Imbiber

A Gokwe pastor was murdered on Sunday after he reproached an imbiber for drinking beer at a funeral church service.

In a statement yesterday, police said: “Police in Gokwe are appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of Leon Muringi and Pritchard Muringi, both of Njikeni village, Nembudziya, in connection with a case of murder and attempted murder which occurred on May 5 this year in Dzingisai village.”

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident.

He said Tapiwa Ziyambi (37), of village Dzingisai under Chief Chireya, died after he was stabbed with a knife in the back reportedly by Pritchard.

He had reprimanded Pritchard for drinking beer during the church-led funeral service.

Tapiwa’s two brothers are battling for life at Gokwe District Hospital after they were also struck with a machete by Pritchard’s sibling, Leon.

“It is alleged that Ziyambi, who was in the company of his two brothers, Tererai (32) and Shepherd (35) of village Dzingisai, headman Chikore under Chief Chireya in Nembudziya, Gokwe, were conducting a church service at a funeral in the village,” Mahoko said.

“According to reports, Ziyambi saw Leon and Pritchard, who were among the mourners, drinking beer and cautioned them. This did not go down well with the suspects.”

After the funeral, the three Ziyambi brothers met the Muringi siblings along a foot path and a confrontation ensued over the censure.

Leon attacked Tererai with a machete and Tapiwa intervened and was stabbed with a knife in the back and died on the spot.

According to Mahoko, Leon also stabbed Shepherd all over the body with a knife.

Tapiwa’s body is at Gokwe District Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem.

Zanu Pf Stalwart Jailed Over R_ape

By A Correspondent- Notorious Zanu-PF member and businessman, Mike Mhangura, has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for raping a Chinhoyi woman last December.

He will, however, spend an effective nine years in jail after regional magistrate, Ignatius Mugova, conditionally suspended three years.

Mhangura was convicted of raping a 38-year-old married woman whom he had offered a lift from the burial of a deceased party member.

The convict, from Gadzema township, Chinhoyi, owns several properties he inherited from his late mother, and is also a Chinhoyi Stars Football Club board member.

The complainant lives in Mapako Phase 1, Chinhoyi.

The state’s case, led by prosecutor Nyasha Sibesha, was that on November 25, 2021, around 6pm, Mhangura and his friends attended the same funeral as the complainant.

The court heard that following the burial proceedings held at Chemagamba Cemetery, he offered the woman a lift back to the deceased’s house in Mzari Suburb.

Mhangura then allegedly drove towards the industrial area and went to Down Town Liquor Wholesale, where his friends bought alcohol and proceeded to Zanu-PF Makonde District coordinating committee (DCC) vice chairman, Tapera Mutovido’s residence, where the funeral wake of his late wife was being held.

After dropping off his friends, Mhangura convinced the woman he would pass through her house enroute to Orange Groove Police Camp, where he was headed to.

He, however, diverted the route and started driving around with the woman until they reached Zuva Fuel Station, situated in the industrial area, where he assaulted her with open hands on her face several times, accusing her of refusing to disclose her name.

Mhangura then drove to Hillside, parked the vehicle at his shop and raped her once.

He then threatened the complainant with death, saying she had no power over him since he was a powerful politician.

The court also heard Mhangura ordered his victim not to shave her pubic hair, and not to have a love affair with another man.

The following morning, Mhangura went to the woman’s residence and had a brief conversation with her, which she managed to record on her cell phone.

Complainant disclosed her ordeal to her husband, children, nieces, and friends through audio recordings she posted on WhatsApp.

The matter was reported to ZRP Chemagamba, leading to Mhangura’s arrest.-newsday

Zimbabwe Sugar Association Speaks On Looming Sugar Shortage

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Sugar Association (ZSA) has dispelled fears of a looming shortage of sugar saying there are adequate stocks of all types of sugar within the country.

ZSA chairman Muchadeyi Masunda said that reports claiming that the country’s major sugar producer, Tongaat Hulett, has suspended production are false.  In a statement, Masunda said

The Zimbabwe Sugar Association is aware of misleading reports in the media stating that there is a looming shortage of sugar in the country due to the suspension of production by Tongaat Hulett, the country’s major sugar producer.

We wish to advise all our valued stakeholders that these reports are unfounded and incorrect.

There are adequate stocks of all types of sugar within the country following the successful resumption of the milling season in April 2022.

The sugar industry has been operating smoothly without any interruptions and does not expect any disturbances to sugarcane farming, sugar production or the distribution logistics which are currently in place.

We would like to assure our valued customers and stakeholders that the Zimbabwe Sugar Industry remains committed to producing enough sugar for the local market.

Mnangagwa Slammed For Harbouring Rwanda Genocide Fugitive

Harare east legislator, Tendai Biti, has blasted President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration for knowingly harbouring Rwanda’s most wanted genocide fugitive, Protais Mpiranya.

It recently emerged that Mpiranya, a former commander of the Rwandese Presidential Guard indicted for the slaughter of thousands of Rwandans, died in 2006 after hiding in Zimbabwe for four years.

His grave, buried under a false name, was found at Granville Cemetery just outside Harare, ending a 20-year long search for him.

According to the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT), an organisation tasked with tracking down fugitives, Mpiranya fled to Zimbabwe in 2002 together with his family and a few associates, and their entry was facilitated by local officials who ‘helped’ him evade capture till his death.

Biti told parliament on Tuesday that the nation deserves to know why the government provided a safe haven for the world’s most wanted brutal killer.

“I rise on a matter of national interest in terms of standing order No. 62, I humbly request that if the minister of Foreign Affairs can present to this honourable house a statement of clarification to help our country.

“Honourable speaker, you know that almost a million people were killed during the Rwanda genocide in April 1994.

“Life is important, no one wants genocide, particularly given our own history in Zimbabwe.

“We learnt with sadness that the United Nations (UN) has excavated the body of a wanted genocider known as Protais Mpiranya here in Zimbabwe. Mpiranya was one of the main perpetrators of the 1994 Rwandese genocide.

Biti added: “So, we kindly ask the minister of foreign affairs to come to this August house to explain why he was in Zimbabwe. Why was he using the false identity, why was he buried in Zimbabwe and why was he not surrendered to the UN Commissions on Rwanda?”

Responding to Biti, the speaker of parliament, Jacob Mudenda, said he will have a conversation with Foreign Affairs minister, Frederick Shava.

In a statement on Sunday, Shava denied the allegations, saying Zimbabwe “will never harbour criminals”.

Police Save Chinotimba From Zanu PF Youths Violence

By- The police blocked Zanu PF activists from staging a demonstration against Buhera South Member of Parliament Joseph Chinotimba on Wednesday.

The protestors had planned to march to the party’s Buhera district offices at Murambinda growth point but failed to do so after police blocked access to the area.

Chinotimba angered Zanu PF activists after a leaked video circulated on social media platforms in which he alleged that President Emmerson Mnangagwa was planning to remove him from Parliament.

The outspoken MP made the remarks while addressing party supporters in Muchini village, Ward 29 in Buhera South. Chinotimba said:

I have put electricity in most areas in my constituency and I have not stopped … now Mnangagwa wants to send his people to remove me. This country was fought for by war veterans.

On Monday, a Zanu PF youth group calling itself the Zimbabwe Revolutionary and Patriotic Youth Network wrote a letter on Monday demanding an explanation from Chinotimba. They accused him of undermining the President.

The letter was written by the group’s secretary for external affairs, Tendai Nyikadzino and addressed to newly-elected Zanu PF youth leader John Paradza.

Zanu PF Manicaland provincial leadership led by Mike Madiro reportedly ordered the police to block the demonstration.

However, Madiro refused to comment to NewsDay on the matter while Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Manicaland Province Inspector Nobert Muzondo said he was not aware of the demonstration.

Mugwadi Says US Plotting To Strangle Zimbabwe

In what could pan out to be a reincarnation of the diabolical Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act (Zidera), the US is mulling enacting legislation that will impose stiff penalties on African countries that will be deemed diplomatically sympathetic to the Russian Federation.

Tafadzwa Mugwadi

The latest piece of legislation by the US, known as the “Countering Malign Russian Activities in Africa Act”, gives Congress power to probe African countries that are deemed to be leaning towards Russia and proposes to punish sovereign African states for associating with Moscow.

Ironically, there are no such limitations on the US on the African continent where it brazenly interferes in African countries’ domestic affairs through the unilateral imposition of sanctions that have been strangling nations like Zimbabwe for over two decades now, retarding economic growth and general development.

According to the draft Bill, the US Congress will have a carte blanche to “regularly assess the scale and scope of the Russian Federation’s influence and activities in Africa that undermine US objectives and interests, and determine how to address and counter such influence and activities effectively, including through appropriate United States foreign assistance programmes; and to hold accountable the Russian Federation and African governments and their officials who are complicit in aiding such malign influence and activities”.

Furthermore, the Bill, which analysts have described as “condescending”, also seeks to monitor deals between African countries and Russian companies in the exploitation of natural resources and extractive industries, and also Russia’s military activities on the continent.

The Bill that comes in the wake of the six-week Russian/Ukraine conflict where African countries have steadfastly refused to take sides and condemn Russia, is regarded by political observers as a carrot and stick approach to enslave African countries by the US when it comes to voting on the United Nations.

It was sponsored by Republican Gregory Weldon Meeks who chairs the House Committee on Foreign Relations and was first put to a vote in the US Senate on April 27 where 415 senators voted in favour and nine against.

The Bill is yet to be signed into law.

Zanu PF director of information and publicity Cde Tafadzwa Mugwadi said Zanu PF will never pander to the dictates of a foreign country, especially imperialistic laws from America.

“Zimbabwe under Zanu PF is sure never to toe that line. African states must stand together and be counted against those seeking to define African foreign relations according to US imperialist motives. Existentially and foundationally, Zanu PF’s ideological orientation and President ED Mnangagwa’s uncompromising revolutionary standpoint are anti-foreign interference.

“We do not have a puppet government in Zimbabwe. We are not beholden to, nor do we define our foreign policy using a US template. Be reminded further that Zimbabwe is under debilitating illegal sanctions from the US, so besides that, we will reject and refuse to toe the US line, this is not breaking news in Zimbabwe.

“Predictably, there will be gnashing of teeth in those countries which are beholden to the United States through US-Africom. It will be, however, a sad day in history if any single African country was going to bow down before this US proposal.

“Great African statesmen and the continent’s founding fathers will be turning in their graves if that were to happen. Imagine all our 52 nations being bound by a US law and its legal system. We shall see real and genuine African leaders and African states while puppets will be exposed,” said Cde Mugwadi.

The US law is being mooted ahead of the October Russia-Africa Summit that is scheduled to take place in St Petersburg under the theme, “For peace, security and development” and is viewed by analysts as a deterrent measure by the US to stop African countries from defining their destiny unencumbered by threats of sanctions.

Academic and researcher Mr Alex Munyonga said the “Countering Malign Russian Activities in Africa Act is nothing but a presentation of Africa as America’s toy and inferior other” in the geopolitics.

“The drive is to sanction any African country that does business with Russia. A telescopic look into such an endeavour unravels the reincarnation of Zidera but this time not targeted at Zimbabwe alone but Africa as a whole. Africa is being reduced to a fighting battlefield for Euro-American conflicts, a second-class continent. This is a fresh and camouflaged scramble for Africa, post-colonial colonisation of Africa.

“For the past two decades, Zimbabwe has been a victim of unjustified bullying from the US and her allies, with Zidera having been passed to punish the country after it had empowered its citizens through land redistribution.

“The success of the Zimbabwean Fast Track Land Reform programme could have catalysed African zeal to possess and own their own resources. Zidera was a hidden and hostile protectionist design meant to discourage any other African country from repossessing and owning their resources.

“The same shenanigans are being displayed in the wake of the renewed, ‘Countering Malign Russian Activities in Africa Act’. America is aware that Russia can evade American sanctions by trading with African countries. America is aware that vibrant trade between Africa and Russia has the potential of destabilising Euro-American economies,” said Mr Munyonga.

Making their intentions bare, US congressman Michael McCaul, who co-sponsored the Bill, said: “We must make every state choose between doing business with the free world or with the war criminal”, making an American standpoint the world’s view.

However, political analyst Mr Collin Mharadzano said such machinations by the US will not find resonance in a liberated world such as Zimbabwe.

“The United States’ predatory behaviour as evidenced by its intentions to enact the Countering Malign Russian Activities in Africa Act is ample testimony of its superior complex mentality where it perceives itself as the only real deal in world affairs. It is indeed contemptuous of other human species. It perceives itself as the Alpha and Omega of all activities political in the world.

“These are clear sanctions akin to Zidera which it unlawfully enacted to destabilise the political and economic affairs of a sovereign country. Russia is now its target hence the need for all nations to resist such an evil act which will hurt the ordinary people,” said Mr Mharadzano.

Unlike some countries which believe in unilateralism, Zimbabwe’s foreign policy is couched in engagement with all nations and the promotion of dialogue in resolving conflicts. -Herald

Cecilia, Joana Fail To Block State Witness

Chief magistrate Mrs Faith Mushure yesterday allowed a crucial State witness from Econet Zimbabwe to testify in the ongoing trial of CCC members, Joana Mamombe and Cecilia Chimbiri, on charges of faking their abductions in May 2020, on condition that prosecutors furnish the two with the witness’ police warned and cautioned statement before he gives evidence in court.
Mrs Mushure made the ruling after Mamombe and Chimbiri on Tuesday mounted a bid to block a crucial State witness from Econet Zimbabwe, Mr Godfrey Mangezi, from giving evidence saying they were not furnished with his warned and cautioned statement before the trial started.

The State led by Mr Michael Reza had called Mr Mangezi to give evidence on call history and data usage on numbers believed to belong to the two CCC members.

After Mrs Mushure’s ruling, Mr Reza then applied for postponement of the matter to May 23 to allow him to furnish the duo’s lawyers with the statement.

Mr Reza also said that he also wanted to furnish the two with another witness’ statement which he had not served them with.

Mamombe and Chimbiri, through lawyers Mr Alec Muchadehama and Mr Jeremiah Bamu, had sought to bar Mr Mangezi from giving evidence.

The lawyers said: “When the matter was about to be set down we were favoured with papers amongst them were witness statements. We were not given a statement from the witness the State intends to call.

“As a result we did not know he will be called as a witness. We were given a letter that the witness wrote after being asked certain questions by police. There is no proper statement recorded from this witness, which put us in an awkward position”.

Responding to Mr Muchadehama’s application, Mr Reza told the court that Mamombe and Chimbiri were aware that Mr Mangezi will give evidence from as far back as July 28, 2020.

“On exhibit A1 entry No.7 is a document that was submitted to defence and signed by Mr Bamu on July 28, 2020.

“It says Econet wireless response. It is the document that was prepared by the witness Mr Mangezi and it states the number of warrant of search and seizure.

“That warrant of search and seizure asked Mr Mangezi to provide subscriber details for 0773 519914, 07790140370, 0777570826.

“The information which was required was for Econet to provide subscriber details, registered owners as per EcoCash, and call history from May 1 to May 20, 2020.

“The defence was fully aware that Mr Mangezi was coming to testify on registered owners and data usage in respect of those numbers. He will also testify on call history of those numbers and those are the three areas of interest to the State,” he said.

Mr Reza told the court that Mr Mangezi would not give evidence that is not contained in the letter he prepared. He also told the court that the State had furnished the CCC members with a print-out of the date and call registers.

“He is not going to testify on anything other than that. Defence was fully aware of the letter. It is not, therefore, correct that they were not fully aware of what that man wanted to talk about. We supplied them with registered owners’ documents, data usages form print-out, and call history in respect of the two numbers,” Mr Reza said. -Herald

Cleric Exposes Kuda Mahachi “Lies”

Kudakwashe Mahachi told his sisters and a local pastor that his four-year-old son’s third-degree burns were a form of cancer that developed after the minor was assaulted by goblins.

Jabulani Nzimah-Ndlovu (Mfundisi Ndlovu) of Ekukhanyeni International Church of Christ in Cowdray Park suburb told B-Metro in an exclusive interview that one of Mahachi’s sisters called him to come and pray for the child soon after they realised that the minor was in a bad state.

Jabulani Nzimah-Ndlovu (Mfundisi Ndlovu) says Kuda Mahachi told him that his son had been attacked by goblins.

The sisters asked Mfundisi Ndlovu to intercede and pray for the child as Mahachi had made them believe that his son had cancer after he was beaten by goblins. Mfundisi Ndlovu says he found the child heavily bandaged.

I was called by Kuda Mahachi’s older sister after the child had been collected from a house in Emakhandeni suburb, where umalayitsha dropped him. They asked for my help because I am a pastor and I have always been there for the Mahachi family.

When I got there, the child was bandaged on the head and legs. I asked them what was happening and they said Mahachi told them the child had cancer and he convinced them that it was a result of goblins. I told them it’s not cancer, but burns and I advised them to take the child to hospital and to inform the child’s mother immediately.

I sent Mahachi a message and he said his son was hit by goblins. I told him that he was lying and he needed to say the truth, but he stuck to his story. Mahachi and his wife (Rose Mahachi) know what they did to the child and they should be honest with the world and stop playing games. I did not mince my words, I told him the goblin excuse was nonsense.

The church leader revealed that he interviewed the child and the minor told him without hesitation that his father had boiled water using a kettle and poured it on him.

The clergyman said the child’s mother, Maritha Ndlovu, her sisters and the grandmother had nothing to do with this.

Mfundisi Ndlovu also hit out at Prophet Blessing Chiza who claimed recently that the incident was a spiritual attack on Mahachi. He said:

Church leaders must not lie to people. Mahachi might be his spiritual son but he must condemn this. He has his reasons for standing with Mahachi but he must not lie to the nation about spiritual attacks. This was child abuse, nothing else and for him to say he believes Mahachi is ridiculous.

Latest On Mine Tragedy

By A Correspondent- All the seven bodies of the miners who had been trapped at Bux Mine in Gwanda have been retrieved.

It’s reported that the miners got trapped on Saturday in the 240-metre deep shaft.

The first body was retrieved on Tuesday morning.

Speaking after the retrieval of the bodies, Cleopas Karima, the rescue team captain said the situation is not pleasant. He said:

It is a hard situation. Look the bodies have been in the water for a long time and the smell may not be pleasant and the sight of blood and flesh in the water, but there is nothing you can do. It is your job to rescue people.

After the retrieval of all the bodies, safety at mines is now the major talking point.

Philemon Mokoeli, Zimbabwe Miners Federation Secretary-General said:

It is unfortunate that most of the miners take safety issues for granted, and when we call meetings or workshops to teach them these things they don’t cooperate. We need to do more. We have been having these cases in the province, we have engaged the School of Mines to train miners on safety.

Preliminary results from the investigations into the accident that claimed the lives of the seven reveal an oversight on safety issues by the mine owners. Chief government mining engineer, Michael Munodawafa said:

In terms of the law, the equipment they are using should be commissioned by the chief government mining engineer and that did not happen because if it had happened, I would not have accepted a situation where they use the 8mm rope on a cork pan.

Polite Kambamura, the Deputy Minister of Mines and Mineral Development said the incident is saddening and unfortunate.

Kambamura urged the community around to adhere to all safety standards to make sure that such things won’t happen in future.

Meanwhile, the police are still verifying the deceased’s identities.-statemedia

Musengezi Spends Sixth Night Behind Bars

Zanu PF activist, Sybeth Musengezi Tuesday spent his sixth night  in jail as his bail hearing drags on.

The activist is accused of misrepresenting his residential address to the Zanu PF party for personal gains.

His bail proceedings have been dragging since last week as the state fears that he will abscond if granted bail.

Prosecutors allege that his residential address is not known, so he might use his political links to skip the country if granted bail.

His lawyer, Douglas Coltart, however argued that his client has travelled less than 10 times since his passport was issued in 2015 and also that he can never interfere with the state’s witnesses because he does not know them.

According to court papers, on an unknown date in 2012,  Musengezi, Allen Chisuko and Taurai Mutimbanyoka allegedly misrepresented to Zanu PF that they resided at House Number 4315 Hatcliffe Extension, Harare.

By doing so, Musengezi fraudulently became a member of Zanu PF, Muzinda 1A District.

In 2019, Musengezi allegedly lied again that he was within the cells of Zanu PF political party, Mai Chitepo Branch Muzinda 1 District and that he resided at house number 4461 Hatcliffe Extension, Harare.

Musengezi then became eligible for election to a Zanu PF Branch position, a preserve only for Zanu PF political party members who would be appearing in the cell structures.

He was therefore elected as the Zanu PF, Mai Chitepo Branch’s Muzinda 1 District Youth Wing Vice Chairperson.

Musengezi is said to have prejudiced the Zanu PF political party of its reputation as he allegedly enjoyed participation in Zanu PF political elections and programs that are supposed to be benefited by members only.

Seven Bodies Of Trapped Miners Retrieved In Gwanda

All the seven bodies of the miners who had been trapped at Bux Mine in Gwanda have been retrieved, amid efforts by government to prioritise safety at mines.

The gory scenes of water with some pieces of human flesh and blood and the anxiety among relatives who endured three cold nights after of pumping water without any meaningful results could be the worst situation that anyone can be and not be dead.

The silence that met the sight of the first body reaching the shaft entrance this Tuesday morning could mean one thing, life could be a nightmare that never ends.

“It is a hard situation. Look the bodies have been in the water for a long time and the smell may not be pleasant and the sight of blood and flesh in the water, but there is nothing you can do. It is your job to rescue people,” said Cleopas Karima, rescue team captain.

After the retrieval of all the bodies, safety at mines is now the major talking point.

Philemon Mokoeli, Zimbabwe Miners Federation Secretary General said, “It is unfortunate that most of the miners take safety issues for granted, and when we call meetings or workshops to teach them these things they don’t cooperate. We need to do more. We have been having these cases in the province, we have engaged the School of Mines to train miners on safety.”

Preliminary results from the investigations into the accident that claimed the lives of the seven reveal an oversight on safety issues by the mine owners.

“In terms of the law, the equipment they are using should be commissioned by the chief government mining engineer and that did not happen because if it had happened, I would not have accepted a situation where they use the 8mm rope on a cork pan,” noted chief government mining engineer, Michael Munodawafa.

Governments has included a thematic area on decent work in the National Development Strategy One as a measure to address incidences like the Bux Mine accident.

Honourable Polite Kambamura, the Deputy Minister of Mines and Mineral Development said, “As government, we are saddened by the unfortunate incident that has claimed lives of miners. We urge the community around to adhere to all safety standards to make sure that such things won’t happen in future.”

Meanwhile, the police are still verifying the deceased’s identities.

Beitbridge Farmers Counting Losses After Rodents Outbreak

The recent outbreak of rodents in Beitbridge has left communal farmers counting losses.

Farmers in Madzibe communal area of Beitbridge are under siege from ravaging rodents, which are not only attacking crops in the fields but also stored grain.

For farmers, the unusual population of a notorious breed of mice, has left them counting losses.

“We are out of ideas on how we can control these ever-multiplying rodents. This year I quit my field because of these mice,” a local farmer said.

Another noted, “These are so vicious. The damage they cause is shocking. We have nowhere to store our grain because they are causing havoc in our granaries.”

Beitbridge Acting District Agritex Officer, Mrs Cecelia Chakanyuka urged farmers to use natural controlling measures for the rodents.

“We have received worrying reports from wards in Beitbridge-West. We urge farmers to use natural means like bucket water traps. To avoid storage damages, farmers should construct secure granaries with concrete to keep away mice,” she said.

Some of the affected areas are Zezane, Madzibe and Chamnangana.

Glenview Shock Over Pomona Dump Money | FULL TEXT

Glenview Residents Shocked by the City of Harare’s Call for a Stakeholder Meeting on the Pomona Waste and Energy Project.

Glenview residents are shocked by the call for a stakeholder meeting by City of Harare after the Pomona Waste and Energy deal was signed and is being implemented without consulting the residents of Harare.

Glenview residents petitioned the City of Harare on the 5th of April 2022 over the dubious deal but the petition has not been responded to.

The controversial “deal” which was signed and now being effected has seen the City of Harare surrendering its Pomona Dumpsite to Georgenix at no cost and then the local authority pays around US40,000.00 for dumping 1000 tonnes of waste at Pomona Dumpsite.

Sources say as of yesterday Georgenix had taken over Pomona Dumpsite and charging waste dumping in United States dollars to private companies and individuals, while billing the local authority. Scores of residents and private companies returned back with their waste to find better options.

According to Glenview residents, the City of Harare is conducting a stakeholder meeting in “an attempt to sanitize the dubious and scandalous deal.” – CHRA

Parly Launches Full Scale Investigation On Tobacco Firm

By A Correspondent- Parliament has launched a full-scale investigation into Premium Leaf Zimbabwe operations and the quality of its tobacco exports.

The company executives yesterday appeared before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Lands and Agriculture.

Members of Parliament asked the company executives to explain why the company was chased away from Malawi in 2009 during former President Bingu wa Mutharika’s reign.

Allegations are that the company connived with four tobacco companies in Malawi to sabotage the southern African nation’s economy.

“I wasn’t working for the company (at the time). However, from what I have gathered, the companies that were asked to leave Malawi were not following government directives,” Premium Leaf Tobacco managing director Grant Campbell explained.

Lands committee chairperson Justice Mayor Wadyajena said the committee needed to scrutinise the company’s documents and launch a proper investigation on the matter.

“We are going to engage the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe and other relevant authorities first,” he said.

Premium Leaf Zimbabwe is a subsidiary of The Premium Tobacco Group, which has branches in Uganda, Tanzania and Malawi.-newsday

Lawyer Absolved

By A Correspondent- The Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) has absolved Harare lawyer Kudzaishe Gama of wrongdoing for facilitating transfer of a property at the centre of a dispute with a client.

LSZ recently instituted investigations on Gama following allegations that he had facilitated transfer of a property into his client’s name, but failed to remit money to beneficiaries.

Gama was probed for violating sections 20 and 21 of the Code of Conduct; Statutory Instrument 37 of 2018 after Nobert Njazi, the owner of the property, reported the matter.

Njazi was sued by the CBZ Bank for loss of its security bonds amounting to US$80 000.

Gama, of Gama and Associates, was hired as a conveyancer to transfer a stand, Lot I of Subdivision A Lot H of Lots A & B called Adylinn of Bluffhill belonging to Njazi into his client Frank Rudolph’s name.

In a letter seen by NewsDay, LSZ dismissed the issue saying Gama did not need to seek consent from CBZ
Bank.

“Council at its meeting held on November 9, 2021 considered your complaint and the respondent’s responses. Council noted that the respondent did not need to seek consent from CBZ Bank,” the letter, dated December 17, 2021, read.

“The respondent was not instructed by Saitana Enterprises and, therefore, was not accountable to them for the proceeds of the sale. In Council’s view, you had no locus standi to complain on behalf of Saltana Enterprises or the respondent’s client,” LSZ ruled, adding that Gama was not guilty of any unprofessional conduct.-newsday

“Appoint VP”: ED Told

By A Correspondent- An opposition MP yesterday said that President Emmerson Mnangagwa should appoint a second Vice-President to fill in the void left by former Vice-President Kembo Mohadi who resigned last year after a sex scandal.

The post of the second VP was created following the 1987 Unity Accord between Zanu-PF and the former PF Zapu party led by the late Vice-President Joshua Nkomo.

Since then the country has had two VPs, but former Vice-President Joice Mujuru served alone from 2009 to 2014 following the death of Joseph Msika from the former PF Zapu side.

In the National Assembly yesterday, Magwegwe MP Anele Ndebele (MDC Alliance) said: “It is my duty as a representative of my people to make this demand … It is ironic that the independence celebrations where held in Bulawayo, but we the people of Matabeleland feel and bemoan the effects of exclusionary politics.”

Ndebele said the second VP should be appointed in line with the Unity Accord, which is irrevocable.

“In the politics of our country, the Presidium is a very powerful body in matters of national unity and devolution and decentralisation.  The appointment of a second VP is needed now more than ever because our society is highly polarised,” he said.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated matter, Harare East MP Tendai Biti (Citizens Coalition for Change) demanded that Foreign Affairs minister Frederick Shava should issue a ministerial statement in Parliament to explain how Zimbabwe harboured the world’s most wanted Rwandan fugitive, Protais Mpiranya.

“We kindly ask the Minister of Foreign Affairs to come to this House to explain how he was killed, why he was using a false identity, and why he was buried in Zimbabwe,” Biti said.

HOSTING OF THE AFRICAN ELEPHANT CONSERVATION CONFERENCE AT HWANGE NATIONAL PARK: 23 26 MAY, 2022

The Minister of Environment, Climate, Tourism, and Hospitality Industry, Honourable Mangaliso Ndlovu, updated Cabinet on the Hosting of the African Elephant Conservation Conference at the Hwange National Park from 23 to 26 May, 2022. Cabinet noted the Report.

The nation will recall that Cabinet earlier on approved the hosting of the Conference, which is primarily meant to discuss and prepare for the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) 19th Conference of Parties (COP 19), scheduled for November 2022 in Panama. The African Elephant Conference will also provide technical scientific research on African elephant conservation and management as well as assess the successes and failures recorded in that regard. Furthermore, the Conference will galvanize support on measures to improve African Elephant conservation in Southern Africa and agree on a framework for wildlife management.

Overall, a total of 150 participants are expected to attend the event, including:
Responsible Ministers from 16 Southern, Central, Eastern and Western African countries;
Diplomats accredited to Zimbabwe;
Non-State Actors, such as the CAMPFIRE Association, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the Food and Agriculture Organisation; and
Chiefs and local community representatives.

Cabinet wishes to further highlight that the Elephant Conference programme involves a two-day meeting of technical officials from 23 to 24 May 2022, followed by a one-day Ministerial Meeting on 26 May 2022. The key output of the Conference will be a Ministerial Declaration on African Elephant Conservation in Africa that is to be referred to as the Hwange Elephant Declaration.

Government emphasizes that the CITES COP 19 is critical in the countrys wildlife conservation and management programmes, especially that of elephants and stockpiled products. The outcome of the African Elephant Conference should, therefore, be mutually beneficial to all parties, including communities, wildlife, the environment and Government. In particular, there is need to look objectively into the issue of trade in elephant products as well as human-wildlife conflict issues in affected communities, and this Conference provides the appropriate discussion platform.

PROPOSAL ON THE SMART CITY PROJECT

The Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Honourable Dr. Jenfan Muswere, presented a Proposal on the Smart City Project, which was adopted by Cabinet.

The Smart City Solutions proposal relates to the strategic area which will introduce operational efficiencies in law enforcement and city administration through the use of Information Communication Technologies (ICTs). Implementation of the Solutions is spearheaded by the Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services. The current proposal relates to the Smart Traffic Management System that is Monitoring and Surveillance with Cameras; and Integration of Systems under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development.

In terms of the Smart Traffic Management System, a country-wide system is set to be deployed throughout the country in partnership with capable technical partners. The System aims to install cameras on all controlled intersections and strategic points in all cities for gathering information and monitoring traffic flow within cities. It will create a platform for the real-time electronic monitoring of roads, receipting, reconciliation of fines, docket management, and analysis of traffic information and statistics across the whole country. The System will be integrated with relevant electronic platforms at the Central Vehicle Registry (CVR), Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (ZINARA), Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA), INTERPOL and other relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

The Integration of Systems under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development will link a number of operational systems as well as those to be installed in the Ministry. A Committee was set up to work on the linkage of all the systems to the National Data Centre. The targeted systems are in the CVR, ZINARA, ZIMPOST, Vehicle Inspection Department (VID) and other relevant Departments in the road and vehicle management area.

Cabinet advises that the Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services will directly engage Ministries, Departments and Agencies and Technical Partners for the deployment of the Smart City Solutions across the country. Under this arrangement, the selected partners will fund the procurement of equipment and implementation of smart solutions on a revenue-share basis, with investment recouped from revenues generated by the respective project on a Build Operate Transfer basis. This will expedite implementation of the projects.

The Smart City Project has many benefits. It will ensure that all criminals who skip red traffic lights and commit similar crimes are easily traced and brought to book. The Project is also expected to reduce road carnage attributable to human error, while improving operational efficiencies in the administration of local authorities and law enforcement agencies. Crime detection and enforcement will be enhanced, while revenue collection will also be increased through optimized systems.

STRATEGIES TO STANDARDIZE ZIMBABWES FUEL PROCUREMENT SYSTEM

Cabinet received a report on Strategies to Standardise the Fuel Procurement System as presented by the Minister of Energy and Power Development, Honourable Zhemu Soda.

Cabinet wishes to inform the nation that the instability in Eastern Europe has increased the uncertainty in fuel supply. Government has, therefore, increased efforts to improve the Strategic Fuel Reserve, with US$40 million worth of fuel having been procured in the last six months. The intention is to maintain at least a 30-day stock cover, which, at the current consumption levels, translates to 150 million litres. This fuel would be released onto the market to plug supply gaps or to stabilize prices.

The nation is informed that in the immediate term, Cabinet has adopted the following strategies:
Resumption of petrol blending at E10 from 25 April 2022, which has reduced the pump price of petrol by US$0.04 per litre. The blending will go up to E20 by end of May 2022, which will lead to a higher reduction in the price of petrol by US$0.07 per litre;

Government intends to set up a Fuel Price Stabilisation Fund, to cushion consumers from sharp increases in fuel prices. Discussions are on-going on the modalities and timing of the Fund. Government will come up with measures to stabilize and ensure a consistent supply of fuel.

Mnangagwa Duo Denied Bail

By A Correspondent- Two siblings who were arrested for conspiracy to commit armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms three weeks ago denied the charges yesterday, saying they were framed.

The duo, Tawanda Mafidi (35) and Vengesai Mnangagwa (45) were denied bail at the High Court by Justice Benjamin Chikowero.

They are facing conspiracy to commit armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms charges.

Tawanda is a squadron leader in the Airforce of Zimbabwe while his brother is a farmer in Marondera.

They are also mining partners at Litapet Mining Syndicate together with their mother, Lita Gomo.

Allegations are that on April 14, this year members of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) received a tip off that the duo was conspiring to commit an armed robbery at Plot 5 Overlaw Farm, Muzvezve in Kadoma.

They were intercepted and searched along Bulawayo Road near Norton and CID officers recovered an AK-47 rifle containing 30 rounds of ammunition.

During a search at their residence, police found a Tokarev pistol.

In denying the offence, the duo claimed that the firearm was planted by the CID.

They told the court that they were framed by one Chifamba, a serving member of the Zimbabwe National Army, who allegedly conspired with them to commit the armed robbery.

The State alleges that Tawanda sold the plan to commit the robbery to Chifamba and requested him to provide firearms for the purpose.

Chifamba pretended to go along with the idea, but he alerted his superiors.

The duo, however, maintains that it did not even know that Chifamba was in possession of the AK-47 rifle and 30 rounds of ammunition.

They argued that Chifamba boarded their car at the Harare Exhibition Park saying he was going to Chegutu, and they did not know that an AK-47 rifle had been hidden under the seat.  They also claimed that the Tokarev Pistol was planted by police at Tawanda’s residence.

Justice Chikowero said their trial would be at the regional court in Harare.

“The first applicant (Tawanda) resides under his own roof on a piece of land allocated to him in Waterfalls, Harare. He stays with his family. He is a serving member of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces. He holds business interests in a mining claim located in Kadoma. The second applicant is a farmer residing at a fairly big piece of land situated in Marondera allocated to him by the relevant minister. He stays with his family. He also holds business interests in the same mining claim,” Justice Chikowero said.

“The applicants did not dispute the offence of conspiracy to commit robbery in aggravating circumstances, which is a serious offence which on conviction invariably attracts a severe custodial sentence.”

Justice Chikowero said their robbery charge might attract imprisonment for life (section 126 (2) (a) of the Criminal Code).

He said the State had a very strong case against the duo.

“It appears that the verdict will turn on the sufficiency of evidence and the credibility of the witnesses. In my opinion, the prosecution appears to have at its disposal an array of witnesses apparently bringing forth a chain of strong evidence against the applicants. On the other hand, their defence strikes me as weak. It seems to have self-evident gaps,” Justice Chikowero ruled.

The judge also dismissed their application for bail pending trial, saying there was a possibility of them absconding trial in fear of lengthy custodial sentences

Staffer Swindles Zanu PF Affiliated Pastor

By A Correspondent| A senior staffer at ZANU PF-affiliated pastor Obadiah Musindo led Destiny for Afrika Network (Danet) has appeared in court facing allegations of swindling his boss shares in a company they co-founded.

Musindo and Wilson Masokovere co-founded Boltspeed security services in 2018, but their relationship has since gone sour.

Masokowere along with Temba Sauramba appeared before Harare magistrate Yekui Dzvuda facing allegations of fraud for swindling shares from Musindo.

According to court documents, Masokovere removed his boss from the company structures by allegedly forging his signature and replacing him with his friend, Saurombe.

State papers indicate that in October 2021 Musindo discovered that the accused persons had tampered with company documents for Boltspeed Security Services.

Musindo was removed as the director of the company in May 2018 barely three months after its inception.

According to court documents, Masokovere changed the shareholding structure for the security company before giving himself and Sauramba a 49% stake each while one Munangi is the minority shareholder with just 2%.

Boltspeed Security Services is a subsidiary of Bolt Speed Contractors.

At inception, the directors were Musindo, his daughter, Glorious, Masokovere, Gerald Mabika and Sauramba.

The two will be back in court on June 28 for trial and are out on bail.

Masokovere also faces separate allegations of stopping an audit of Danet projects in Manicaland amid allegations of embezzling funds.

The matter is in court.

Independence Day Accident Victims Struggle To Settle Medical Bills

By A Correspondent- Accident victims injured in an accident that happened in Kariba on Independence Day are failing to pay medicals bills prompting some residents to cry foul.

Two Kariba residents Maxton Kanhema and Samson Coffee have since approached Mashonaland West minister of State Mary Mliswa-Chikoka for assistance for the victims, who happen to be civil servants.

In a letter to the minister seen by NewsDay, Kanhema and Coffee said:  “We are writing to you with heavy hearts and troubled souls. Some members of our Kariba community were involved in an accident while on national duty on Independence Day and some were unfortunate to lose their lives. Our main worry is the neglect the injured survivors are being subjected to.

They said the victims were failing to pay hospital bills.

“Hon minister, it cannot be business as usual in your province when some of our compatriots are being neglected and with little to no help. Independence Day and other national events will definitely lose relevance if this is the official attitude by our leadership.”

The petition asked Mliswa-Chikoka to assist with funds for the victims’ hospital bills. Some of them lost limbs.

Efforts to get a comment from Mliswa-Chikoka were fruitless. She also did not respond to text messages from NewsDay.

By A Correspondent- Police at Sadza growth point, Mashonaland East province are hunting for a 54-year-old man who allegedly raped his 13-year old niece who brought food to his room while he was ill.

The man from Chief Neshangwe, Chikomba district, is on the run after he reportedly raped his niece before threatening to kill her with a machete.

Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachii confirmed the case yesterday.

Police are appealing for information on the whereabouts of the suspect in connection with a rape case. The public should also know that relatives and neighbours are potential abusers,” he said.

The alleged rape happened sometime in April when the complainant was sent to serve food to the ill man by her mother.

The suspect then took a machete from under the bed, forced the girl to lie on the bed and raped her once.

He threatened to kill her if she reported the matter, but on May 11, the complainant told her mother about the rape and a police report was filed.-Newsday

Lawyer Cleared Of Looting

The Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) has absolved Harare lawyer Kudzaishe Gama of wrongdoing for facilitating transfer of a property at the centre of a dispute with a client.

In a letter seen by NewsDay, LSZ dismissed the issue saying Gama did not need to seek consent from CBZ Bank.

In Council’s view, you had no locus standi to complain on behalf of Saltana Enterprises or the respondent’s client,” LSZ ruled, adding that Gama was not guilty of any unprofessional conduct.– Newsday

Mliswa Exposes Mnangagwa Gold Dealer

By- Out-spoken Norton MP Temba Mliswa has exposed President Emerson Mnangagwa’s Gold runner Scott Sakupwanya, for lying that he would freely bring former American boxer Floyd Mayweather to Zimbabwe.

Scott, who claimed to had a business meeting with Mayweather in Dubai recently, said he convinced him to come and invest in Zimbabwe.

Commenting on Scott’s statements Mliswa said the former American boxer would not do free public relations for Harare. He said:
It should be understood that these Americans like Floyd Mayweather are very conscious about marketing and image rights. They don’t do anything for free. He isn’t some Pan African ideologue to glow over. He is just another mercenary out for a payday.
You want him to come here you pay. To meet him you pay. It’s not like he believes in anything about this country or is conscious of any ideological agenda which he wants to support. No! He is simply making his money. He would do anything for Zimbawe as for any other country.
We should focus on practical measures to make the country attractive for investors and foreigners NOT through paying them to speak about us!! Of course Scott is doing it also for his company, Better Brands but for the country, this is a damp squib, there is no value.

Workers Run Amok, Burn Sugarcane Fields

By- Tongaat Hulett Zimbabwe (THZ) has been forced to listen to its workers after they torched plantations of unripe cane in protest over low wages.

Last week the company had to increase salaries for the disgruntled workers after the sad incident.

The incident occurred after the company and unions representing the employees reached a deadlock during a collective bargaining process that began in March this year, with unions threatening to urge their members to down tools until their concerns are heard.

Plantations in Area 1 and 2 with various sections including 2, 9 and 13 saw several unripe cane fields being torched between 3 and 4 May, a development which saw several fire tenders being mobilised to tackle the blaze. The fields which were targeted had eight-month-old sugarcane which was not ready for harvesting. Cane is harvested after 12 months, but the company was forced to harvest the torched fields.

Two days after the fire, THZ called a meeting with three unions representing the workers and it raised the salaries all workers by 73.8% more than what they were offering before the fires.

The lowest-paid worker in grade A1 is now getting a monthly salary of ZW$54 000 and the highest-paid worker in grade B5 is now getting ZW$126 997.69, according to a collective bargaining agreement signed by the Zimbabwe Sugar Milling Industry Employers’ Association, Zimbabwe Sugar Milling Industry Workers’ Union (ZISMIWU), Sugar Production and Milling Industry Workers’ Union of Zimbabwe (SPAMWUZ), Sugar Milling and Allied Workers’ Union of Zimbabwe and the National Employment Council for the Zimbabwe sugar milling industry on 6 May 2022. The increase was backdated to 1 April this year.

However, employees are not happy with the increase after the company removed the cost of living allowance late last year as well as the removal of a United States dollar component, leaving them receiving only the local currency which is vulnerable to inflation.

SPAMWUZ secretary-general Adonia Mutero confirmed the agreement to The NewsHawks, but said workers are not happy with the increase which can cushion them for only a month. He said the removal of the forex component from the workers’ salaries will leave them in abject poverty, considering the current economic challenges affecting the country. He added that as unions they are not aware of the identities of people who torched the sugarcane fields, but said workers were angry during the collective bargaining period.

“I can confirm that the employer agreed to increase our wages by 73.8%, which is way below what we were expecting. Our situation was worsened by the removal of the foreign currency component from our salaries. We were receiving part of our salaries in foreign currency for two or three years but that was removed late last year and the employer is saying it removed it after a directive from Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe. We are aware that some of the sugarcane plantations in Triangle were torched, but as unions we cannot tell the identities of the assailants, but truly speaking workers were angry. We will continue lobbying for better pay which will allow us to live a decent life since the current salaries will see most of the workers living in poverty,” said Mutero.

Tongaat Hulett corporate affairs and communications executive Dahlia Garwe promised to call back The NewsHawks when contacted for comment, but she was later unreachable on mobile phone.

A senior THZ employee told The NewsHawks that the sugar-milling giant realised that employees were angry after the torching of unripe sugarcane fields and adjusted upwards what it had offered during the collective bargaining process. He said the company was offering ZW$37 000 for the lowest grade but later settled for ZW$54 000 after the unexpected fires which targeted the eight-month-old plantations.

“The company acted quickly after the fires but they wanted to play down the issue as if the fire was targeting ripe fields which were ready for harvesting. I can tell you that fire tenders were mobilised in a bid to put out the fire, but surprisingly they called unions for continuation of the negotiations where they offered more than what they were offering. This increment is nothing because we are now only getting the local currency,” said the senior employee.

With 19 000 employees at its peak, THZ is the country’s single biggest employer outside the government, making Chiredzi district the main cog in Masvingo province’s economic machinery.

Civil Servants Injured On National Duty Failing To Settle Medical Bills

54yr Old On The Run Over R_ape

By A Correspondent- Police at Sadza growth point, Mashonaland East province are hunting for a 54-year-old man who allegedly raped his 13-year old niece who brought food to his room while he was ill.

The man from Chief Neshangwe, Chikomba district, is on the run after he reportedly raped his niece before threatening to kill her with a machete.

Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachii confirmed the case yesterday.

Police are appealing for information on the whereabouts of the suspect in connection with a rape case. We also urge members of the public to quickly report rape cases so that victims can be quickly assisted to get treatment.

Mnangagwa Challenger Languishes In Custody

By- A Zanu PF senior youth member who challenged President Emerson Mnangagwa’s ascendency to power was Monday further remanded in custody after the state requested a postponement to Tuesday.

Sybeth Musengezi was arrested last week for allegedly obtaining a Zanu PF membership card fraudulently.

When Musengezi appeared yesterday before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda, his lawyers, Nqobani Sithole and Douglas Coltart, argued that their client should not continue to be detained further because of continuous delays in hearing the case.

Sithole argued that Musengezi should be released because he was not a flight risk and was in constant communication with the police.

According to NewsDay, Sithole also argued that Musengezi had no business interests outside the country having travelled less than 10 times since 2015. Sithole further averred:
The documents that were submitted before this court were authored by Zanu PF, which manipulated them.
The investigation officer in the matter, however, said Musengezi could use other means to skip borders and travel outside of the country. The state alleges that:
a). in 2012, Musengezi, Allen Chisuko and Taurai Mutimbanyoka allegedly misrepresented to Zanu PF that they resided at House Number 4315 Hatcliffe Extension, Harare. Musengezi fraudulently became a member of ZANU PF, Muzinda 1A District.
b). In 2019, Musengezi allegedly lied again that he was within the cells of ZANU PF political party, Mai Chitepo Branch Muzinda 1 District and that he resided at house number 4461 Hatcliffe Extension, Harare.
c). Musengezi then became eligible for election to a ZANU PF Branch position, a preserve only for Zanu PF political party members who would be appearing in the cell structures.
d). He was, therefore, elected as the ZANU PF, Mai Chitepo Branch’s Muzinda 1 District Youth Wing Vice-Chairperson.

In 2021, Musengezi filed a court application, challenging the constitutionality of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ascendancy to Zanu PF leadership in 2017 after the late former President Robert Mugabe was removed from power in a military coup.

Mnangagwa Brothers Denied Bail

Mugabe Successor Fails To Pay Debt

By- The late President Robert Mugabe’s preferred successor Sydney Sekeramayi, has been sued for failing to repay a debt he got from a friend.

The former Defence and State Security Minister is in financial difficulty and is failing to repay the US$250 000 he borrowed from a friend.

The Zanu PF Politburo member was sued by his friend, Exevia Maoneke, who wanted to force him to repay the loan.

According to court papers seen by NewZimbabwe.com, Maoneke gave the money to Sekeramayi last year, who promised to repay by 28 February this year.

Sekeramayi was given the money in two batches: he received the first batch of US$150 000 on 18 August 2021, and later US$100 000.

The politician offered a stand in Marondera, measuring 4 199 hectares as collateral security.

Sekeramayi was supposed to pay U$150 000 on 4 December 2021 while the remaining balance of US$100 000 was supposed to be paid on 28 February this year.

His failure to repay the loan prompted Maoneke to seek the High Court’s intervention.

High Court judge, Justice Slyvia Chirawu-Mugomba, ruled that Sekeramayi should repay the loan. She said:

Whereupon, after reading documents filed of record and hearing counsel, it is ordered that the provisional sentence be and is hereby granted against Sekeramayi.

Sekeramayi shall pay Maoneke US$250 000 plus interest at the prescribed rate of five per cent from the date of filing of the summons until the date of payment.

The immovable property called stand 722 Marandellas Lands, measuring 4 199 square meters, held under deed of transfer No’ 10120/1997 dated November 25, 1997, be and is hereby declared executable.

Justice Chirawu-Mugomba also ordered Sekeramayi to pay a collection commission in terms of the Law Society of Zimbabwe Tariff being 10 per cent of the capital.

Makamba Chased Out Of A Zanu PF Meeting

By-Businessman and former Zanu PF chairman for Mashonaland Central Province, James Makamba, has been chased out of a party meeting.

Makamba was on Sunday chucked out of a Zanu PF Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) held in Bindura by a party politburo member Kenneth Musanhi.

Sources who witnessed the incident said Musanhi, ordered Makamba to get out of the meeting when he (Musanhi) was about to give a vote of thanks.

The sources said Makamba was chased away because the praesidium did not clear him to be a provincial member.

“Makamba was given marching orders by Musanhi after he attended a PCC meeting on Sunday. Musanhi said he was not eligible to be in the meeting since the presidium is not at peace with him,” he said.
The businessman has made several attempts to be recognised by the party including campaigning on a Zanu PF ticket in the Mt. Darwin South and provincial elections but was disqualified on both incidents allegedly for his G40 links.
Contacted for comment Makamba did not pick his calls.

PSL Suspended Due To Barbourfields Chaos

The Premier Soccer League has suspended the Castle Lager Premiership season following the violent scenes that marred the match between Highlanders and Dynamos at Barbourfields Stadium.

The Sunday encounter at Barbourfields Stadium was marred by crowd trouble on seperate occasions in the second half.

The first interruption happened at the hour mark and lasted for fifteen minutes after the home team threatened to invade the pitch after Bill Antonio’s challenge left Andrew Tandi with a broken leg.

The incident also saw players and officials from both sides clashing, and Antonio received a straight red card.

Another lengthy stoppage followed when Highlanders took the lead in the 93rd minute through Washington Navaya’s header.

The home team’s fans then invaded the pitch to celebrate while Dynamos players surrounded the referee, protesting his decision to allow the goal.

The visitors felt Shadreck Nyahwa was fouled during the build-up to the goal, and there was another rough challenge on keeper Taimon Mvula.

As the Dembare players confronted the referee, their supporters on the Mpilo End joined in and invaded the pitch, uprooting the goalposts and tearing the nets.

The incidents led to the abandonment of the encounter before the fulltime.

In a statement the league said: “The Premier Soccer League has suspended all Castle Lager PSL matches with immediate effect until further notice following incidents of violence and hooliganism that continue to take place in our football.

“The PSL strongly condemns such acts as they can only serve to tarnish the beautiful game of football.

“We are currently engaging all key stakeholders to find lasting solutions to these challenges. We have scheduled a meeting with Security Officials including the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Club Security Officers and Marshals as well as stadium owners on Friday 20 May 2022.

“Meanwhile, we have requested Highlanders FC, Dynamos FC and the ZRP to furnish us with reports detailing the events that transpired at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday 15 May 2022. We will take disciplinary action after receiving the said reports.

“We take this opportunity to apologise to all football loving fans, our sponsors and stakeholders. We hope to address these challenges before resuming football matches.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe
