Chatunga Hits Out At Jah Prayzah

Late former President Robert Mugabe’s son Chatunga Bellarmine Mugabe has cheekily scolded popular musician Jah Prayzah for alleged failure to endorse Nutty O’s new album which the dancehall star released hours earlier Friday.

Nutty O, real name Carrington Simbarashe Chiwadzwa, released his long awaited Mustard Seed, a 13-track compilation and his first album in his promising music career.

The album has been widely described as a masterpiece as the young, talented artiste took time to flaunt his lyrical prowess.

Using his twitter handle Friday, Chatunga said, “It’s now more than 5 hrs since Nutty O released his album still no sign of Jah Prayzah’s endorsement or congratulatory message have some shame JP.”

But the 24-year-old’s message was received differently among some twitter users who felt Jah Prayzah was under no obligation to be endorsing other musician’s albums.

Entertainment journalist Robert Mukondiwa felt Jay Prayzah had no obligation to comment his one-time protégé’s works.“Should he though? Does @jahprayzah owe him that congratulatory message?” he said in the Twitter thread. However, others felt as a big name in the industry, it would be courteous of Jah Prayzah to commend another musician for a good production.

Both Nutty O and Jah Prayzah were once under the Military Touch Movement, a vibrant ensemble that once housed music talents in the form of Andy Muridzo, ExQ, Tahle Wedzinza, Nutty O and producers DJ Tamuka and Daniel Chiweda before they decided to pursue solo careers.

Mliswa Offers 10 Beasts To Vengai Musengi If He Goes Beyond 30 Seconds In The Boxing Ring

By Jane Mlambo| Controversial Norton legislator Temba Mliswa has challenged Zanu PF Mashonaland West Youth Chairperson Vengai Musengi to a boxing match and has offered him 10 beasts should he go beyond 30 seconds in the boxing ring.

Mliswa said proceeds from the bout will go towards supporting party youths in the province impoverished by Musengi’s lack of leadership.

Mliswa claimed that Musengi called and threatened him over an issue he did not disclose.

“I was called by Mash West Youth Chair Vengi Musengi who threatened me. As a young person he seems to have too much erratic energy. Thus I have sought to channel that energy towards a constructive end. I have challenged him to a clean bout in the ring until one of us surrenders,” said Mliswa.

The firebrand former Mash West chairperson said the boxing match should be televised with front row seats going for US$100.

He added that if Musengi lasts more than 30 seconds in the boxing ring, he will get 10 cattle as an incentive.

“No machetes, guns and thuggish acts, just a refereed fight. We sign indemnity forms, he chooses whether we do gloves or bare hands or any martial arts discipline and people pay to watch. Live television& front row seats US$100. We channel the proceeds to charity.

“The money we realize from this will be shared between the youths in Mash West who have suffered his lack of leadership. The other half we give to Norton. As an incentive I have put 10 cattle on the table if he can last beyond 30 seconds,” added Mliswa.

FULL TEXT: Stop Washing Your Dirty Linen In Public, Women Groups Tell Chiwenga

As women’s rights organisations we are concerned and worried at the ongoing saga involving the Vice President Dr CGN Chiwenga and his wife Mary Chiwenga. We note that private matters such as divorce should remain within the realm of private life, it is equally important that parties involved treat these issues as such. It would be worrisome if parties used their proximity to State institutions to push these to settle personal challenges with their spouses.

Since the Chiwenga couple’s divorce proceedings commenced over the last several months, the nation has been gripped by what is turning out to be an embarrassing yet disquieting turn of events. It must be noted that the couple have had a blissful marriage life which has been blessed with children and prior to the ugly turn of events they appeared in public blossoming in the sunshine of their love. It is therefore disturbing that since their fall out things have turned terribly nasty especially for Mary Chiwenga.

She has been arrested and arraigned before the courts and eventually granted bail after long proceedings at the High Court. If she is guilty of the offences for which she was arrested for then justice will take its course but in the meantime, she should enjoy her presumption of innocence.

While we are not medical practitioners, our sense of humanity informs us that Mary Chiwenga is visibly unwell and in need of medical attention which may not be readily available in Zimbabwe. It is therefore in the best interest of her right to life that at a minimum she goes for treatment. We understand that this is a matter before the courts and will therefore only give our opinion and not instruct the courts as to the determination they must make on this matter.

Further, we appeal to the HHHonourable Vice President CGN Chiwenga to allow Mary Chiwenga access to their children. As women, some of us being mothers, we understand the pain of being separated from children hence our call for the couple to find common ground where they can share in the growth of their kids.

In the final call, we also note that State institutions must not be used to settle domestic differences. This is in respect of allegations by Mary Chiwenga that some sections of the security forces were used to remove her property from one of the couple’s homes. We therefore urge the couple, while stature attract national attention, to resolve their differences amicably and to give their children an enabling environment for them to grow and attain their full potential as they themselves have been able to do

Mines Minister Sucked In Mine Ownership Dispute

Sparks flew in the Ministry of Mines this week, as the long-running dispute over Ran Gold Mines, a 122-year-old asset in Bindura, took a new twist, with an angry party to the deadlock accusing Mines minister Winston Chitando of overturning a Supreme Court order.

The broadsides were fired after Chitando, who last week came under fire from the President’s Office to act on a sea of disagreements over minerals claims, ruled on Monday that the gold mine at the heart of confrontations between mining executive Jack Murehwa’s G&P Industries and Ran Mines and businesswoman, Angeline Munyeza’s Blackgate Investments belonged to the Murehwa consortium.

“The ground that Blackgate pegged was not open to prospecting and pegging according to Section 31 of the Mines and Minerals Act at the time that Blackgate purports to have repegged and subsequently registered the claim known as Kimberley 18, which belongs to Ran Mine and G&P Industries,” Chitando said in the determination, which came over a decade after the parties began fighting over the goldfields.

“In light of these findings, the certificates issued to Blackgate Investments were issued in error. I hereby cancel certificates of registration numbers 36 375 and 37 353 respectively,” Chitando said.

But yesterday, an angry Munyeza rejected the ruling. She accused Chitando of avoiding slipping into contempt by avoiding a key Supreme Court order in coming up with the determination.

She said the dispute over Ran Mines was fraught with irregularities from the start when “your ministry adamantly stood by the fraudulent ‘letter’ produced by Jack Murehwa in a hearing held on February 6, 2020.

“Your determination has made us question the constitutional adherence of your office as this action is detrimentally groundbreaking and unheard of. It implies the precedence of a minister overturning an order from the highest court in the land, thus depicting your office as a supposed superior arm of the law which acts above the law itself.

“It is rather baffling that a whole minister can use the word ‘error’ to adjudicate a dispute that has been ensuing for more than a decade and deem it as conclusive. We are a business which was built on a patriotic mantra and we believe that your decision could only be equivalent to staging a coup d’etat . . . this is appalling in professional conduct for a minister to overturn a ruling made by an esteemed bench of judges that sits in the highest court in the land. In culmination from our assertion your determination is unlawful in the sense that you have not fulfilled the Supreme Court order hence it renders the Ministry of Mines in contempt of court and continues to be the instigator of this never-ending spiral of injustice that prejudices the nation of the much-needed development,” Munyeza said.

Fighting reached a tipping point two weeks ago when G&P Industries said it was pressing ahead to extract its first bullion at the mine in 22 years, while rivals at Blackgate Investments warned that sinking shafts at the operation was illegal until the government makes a determination over ownership.

Documents seen by the Zimbabwe Independent indicated that Blackgate holds permits demonstrating ownership to the goldfields, which have now been cancelled.

The Independent reported last week that in a 76-page letter submitted to President Mnangagwa in December, Blackgate claimed that G&P Industries had warned them to tread carefully as the asset belonged to the feared late strongman, Robert Mugabe and his family. The letter claimed that after Mugabe unceremoniously left power in 2017, G&P somersaulted and claimed that Mnangagwa had taken over the asset, which collapsed in 1999 before attracting armies of artisanal miners.

G&P has indicated that it has a US$6,5 million war chest to rebuild Ran Mines, which made headlines in November, after its shafts collapsed under heavy flooding as torrential rains swept through Zimbabwe.

In her letter to Mnangagwa, Munyeza said Zimbabwe lost about US$500 million in potential gold exports during the prolonged dispute. She said Blackgate identified Ran Mines after previous owners left, but ran into problems after being swamped with complaints that it had intruded into G&P claims. She said in November the government took the warring to the mine, but she was shocked when G&P said she must “keep quiet because the mine belongs to the first family”. Munyeza is seeking clarity if it was true that Ran Mines’ ownership had transferred from Mugabe to Mnangagwa.

“It is in your best interest that I bring your attention to an issue of paramount importance that if left derelict, could derail and negate the efforts that are being made towards establishing a US$12 billion mining industry by 2023 — fighting the scourge of corruption that could ultimately result in the perpetuation of the abuse of your name and family by cunning, unscrupulous individuals within society,” Munyeza said.

“The dispute in question has been a prolonged one . . . emanating in 2008 . . . characterised by alarming levels of corruption within the Ministry of Mines and gross abuse of the name of the late President Robert Gabriel Mugabe as well as yours and your family members. These occurrences have led us to seek clarity…and…impartial recommendation as this matter infringes negatively on your reputation and integrity as you are the chief steward of the country,” Munyeza said.

Last week, presidential spokesman, George Charamba said there was a worrying trend of conflicts over claims that the Mines ministry has failed to address.

“I cannot confirm that we have received the letter as the President’s Office,” Charamba said.

“Maybe it is still on its way, but this is a clear message to the Ministry of Mines that the whole regime of assigning titles to claims must be tided up. I am sure there is a need for intervention from the high office,” Charamba told the Independent.

We Have Not Yet Recognized CCC- ZEC

THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has said it has not yet officially recognised the controversial Citizens Convergent for Change (CCC) as a political party in Zimbabwe, NewsDay Weekender has learnt.

On Monday, a Bulawayo resident with strong Zanu PF links, Varaidzo Musungo, wrote to Zec claiming ownership of the name CCC, which has been widely used by opposition Nelson Chamisa’s MDC Alliance.

Zec spokesperson Joyce Kazembe said it was impossible to acknowledge receipt of CCC as a political party because it did not provide enough details upon notifying the commission of its existence.

“Zec does not register political parties, but it simply receives notifications upon formations of new parties,” she said.

“The commission received a notification from the CCC political group, but since it was incomplete, we did not acknowledge its existence. There are no contact details such as emails or phone numbers, hence it was impossible to acknowledge receipt upon the notification of their existence.”

There has been debate around the need to register political parties in Zimbabwe, with some people advocating for conditions on party registration.

Former Zec commissioner Qhubani Moyo said the biggest challenge over years was that there were no regulations that defined the registration of political parties in Zimbabwe.

“There is no law to register political parties in Zimbabwe,” he said.

“Political parties are not registered. All you do is to just write to Zec and say, we are a grouping of names A or B, which is why some people have been advocating for registration of political parties so that a political party can be defined in terms of what constitutes the political party, organic composition and so many things.”

Moyo said the country should copy what other countries do when a new party registers to contest elections to avoid confusion.- NewsDay

Zanu PF Gold Medal At ZITF – A Case Of Absence Of Competent Exhibitors?

THE ruling Zanu PF party on Friday won a gold medal for having the second best stand at this year’s Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Bulawayo dominated by government departments and other State agencies.

The ruling party was named second best exhibitor after the Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development ministry.

The outstanding exhibition in the small-to-medium enterprises category also went to Zanu PF, where the ruling party was showcasing projects under its SME’s sector.

Other entities that won awards at the ZITF include Glytime Foods as a first-time exhibitor, Premier Services Medical Aid Society, Treger Products and TelOne. The trade exhibition began on Tuesday and ended yesterday.

However, while Zanu PF was rejoicing for clinching the award, there have been questions on the quality of exhibitions, where some exhibitors failed to even repaint or refurbish properties they occupied during the country’s annual trade showcase.

This year’s ZITF saw a number of universities, government agencies and departments occupying huge exhibition spaces compared to private local and foreign companies.

Critics have said the failure of local and foreign entities to exhibit at the ZITF 2021 edition mirrors the poor state of the economy where companies are struggling to stay afloat.

“It’s understandable to reminisce and be nostalgic about now-defunct local companies that used to exhibit at ZITF in years gone by. Those were the good, old days,” Philani Moyo, the director of Fort Hare Institute of Social and Economic Research, University of Fort Hare, South Africa, said.

“We all know the economic and political circumstances have massively changed over the years with various implications, but, my question is, does our generation lack innovators, creative and industrialists?” he equipped.

“Doesn’t the current economic and political situation (others call it a crisis) present opportunities for innovators and industrialists? What socio-economic problems can be solved by a new generation of innovators and industrialists in the current
context?”

This year’s ZITF also saw a drop in the number of countries exhibiting at the ZITF, from as high as 17 recorded in 2019 to the current 10.- NewsDay

Watford FC Academy is pleased to announce the signing of exciting young forward Jimiel Chikukwa.

The 18-year-old joins the Hornets after a successful trial period, following his departure from Leeds United in the summer.

Chikukwa has already scored in a Watford shirt, against both Hull City and Crewe Alexandra’s (2) Under-23 sides.

Chikukwa had played for Leeds since the age of 13, but decided it was time for a new challenge ahead of the ongoing campaign. He said:

I’m delighted, I’ve had to be really patient over the summer to get this done but I’m just buzzing that it’s happened now.

I was out of contract and looking for a club, and I got the opportunity to come down to Watford.

I’m willing to take any opportunity that comes in football because I love it, and I’m delighted the decision’s paid off.

I’ve settled in quite well, I’m enjoying it. It’s quite far from home but all of the lads have made me feel welcome.

Watford F.C. Under-23s and Academy which is the youth setup of Watford said both of Chikukwa’s goals against Crewe were from close range, demonstrating the youngster’s ability to burst into the six-yard box.

Chikukwa describes himself as a striker who “likes to run in behind, but also I’m a bit of a poacher, so those balls in and around the six-yard box I’m usually there.” He continued:

I’m pacey, I like to get on the ball and show what I can do, I can beat a man.

You Have No Excuse For Not Holding By-elections, US Tells Mnangagwa Regime

Tinashe Sambiri| The United States Embassy in Harare has challenged the Zanu PF regime to hold by-elections in line with the provision of country’s constitution.

In a brief statement posted on Twitter, the US embassy emphasized the need to respect voters rights.

The regime is baulking at the holding of by-elections fearing defeat…

The US embassy said:
“When will the Zimbabwean government resume by-elections? Long-standing parliamentary vacancies have left over 754 000 voters in 26 constituencies without elected representation.

Only by-elections will restore these citizens’ rights to representation.

Many countries have held elections despite the pandemic, including Zambia, South Africa, Malawi, and the United States, demonstrating that COVID-19-safe elections are possible. We are confident Zimbabwe can do the same #ZimsSafetoVote #ZimVotesMatter.”

Information secretary Ndavaningi Mangwana accused the US consulate of being “disrespectful” to the Zimbabwean government by publicly taking it to task over holding of by-elections.

“Surely, the US embassy knows where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is located,” Mangwana claimed.

1200 Pupils Test Positive For COVID-19

The Ministry of Health and Child Care on Friday 24 September 2021 reported that 1 281 pupils and 131 teachers had tested positive for Covid-19 since schools opened on 30 August up to 23 September 2021.

It said most of the cases were at boarding schools and were mild and therefore did not require hospitalisation.

While there has been a spike in COVID-19 cases in schools since reopening, there have been no deaths so far.

There were 330 new cases on Thursday, 229 of them at schools.

Authorities downplay the surge insisting that schools will not be closed prematurely adding that a raft of measures have been adopted to ensure the safety of learners, teachers and all other school staff. Measures being taken include:

Increased COVID-19 testing of all suspected cases on-site.
Isolation and management of all positive cases at the affected schools.
Quarantine of all learners that have been exposed at their schools.
Restriction of movement into and out of the affected learning institutions/ schools until there are no more new cases. This includes the prohibition of visitations by parents.
Enhanced public health and social measures including physical distancing, corhoting, hand washing and sanitization and proper wearing of face mask and exercising good hygienic standards.
Vaccination of eligible population within the schools and the surrounding communities.
Increased awareness on COVID-19 in the schools and surrounding communities.

Zimbabwe has approved the vaccination of teenagers from 14 which would cover most of those in secondary school upwards.

It has purchased enough vaccines to vaccinate over six million people but has so far administered just over 5.1 million doses with nearly 2.2 million people now fully vaccinated and just over three million having received one dose.- Pindula News

We Are Not A Choir- President Chamisa On Joining POLAD

Tinashe Sambiri|Only genuine and sincere dialogue can resolve the country’s political stalemate, MDC Alliance leader President Nelson Chamisa has said.

Speaking in an interview with Heart and Soult Tv in Harare on Thursday, President Chamisa described POLAD as a platform created by Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa to dictate his political will…

He also accused the Zanu PF regime of stifling meaningful development in local authorities.

“Zanu PF is stifling development in local authorities by politicizing the approval of key budgets. We cannot be be blamed for the problems that are affecting citizens in urban areas because Zanu PF controls the allocation of resources to local authorities.
If anything you can only blame Mr Mnangagwa’ s administration for sitting on budgets and initiatives.Roads are now rivers ( as it were) because of potholes. They are stealing ZINARA funds,” said President Chamisa.

He added:”Zanu PF has created its own opposition led by Douglas Mwonzora so you cannot say we have lost the right to use the MDC brand.

We have not lost the leadership dispute- don’t worry about Zanu PF surrogates. We are the real deal and we are the genuine game in town.
Actually Zanu PF is strengthening us.

They want to force us to disclose our strategies and we will not do that – don’t listen to Zanu PF political rhetoric. Zanu PF can convince you that monkeys are donkeys …
Mr Mnangagwa has subtly admitted that we are in charge.”

On the so called defections he said :”Who wants a basket full of bad apples ?
Mr Mnangagwa has failed to unite country- he is immature.
He cannot separate politics from national issues. He is only concerned about clinging to power.”

President Chamisa said POLAD was created to sanitize Mr Mnangagwa’s stolen mandate.

” It’s Mr Mnangagwa’s own creation, he is the prefect of the platform.
We are not puppets – POLAD is a discredited platform – we want honest dialogue facilitated by a neutral player.”

ZEC Humiliates George Charamba Denies Registering CCC

Joyce Kazembe

Barely a week after presidential spokesman George Charamba revealed that a-non-Nelson-Chamisa party has registered an entity called CCC, the electoral commission has ducked down the report saying none of that has happened.

Last Monday Charamba gloated saying Chamisa is has hit a brickwall because a party bearing his social moto, Citizens Convergence for Change has been registered.

All this happened when a Bulawayo resident known to support Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Zanu PF, Varaidzo Musungo, wrote to Zec claiming ownership of the name CCC, which has been widely used by opposition Nelson Chamisa’s MDC Alliance.

The registrant was in the same day revealed as a ZANU PF supporter, and the Charamba mockery backfired.

Responding to the development, Zec spokesperson Joyce Kazembe has since said it was impossible to acknowledge receipt of CCC as a political party because it did not provide enough details upon notifying the commission of its existence.

Moyo said the country should copy what other countries do when a new party registers to contest elections to avoid confusion.

“I am told that there is also another party that has written to Zec under the name Zimbabwe Alliance for Movement Unit, and I think this is the Chamisa brigade trying also to create confusion on the name of Zanu PF,” he said.

“In other countries, for you to qualify to be a political party that is successfully registered, you are supposed to have a certain number of registered members from each province. But as for Zimbabwe, there is no definition on what constitutes a political party since there is no registration for political parties.

“You can just decide today that you are now a political party and still contest for election. This is why we have so much confusion in Zimbabwe.” – Newsday/additional reporting

Man Swindled ZB Bank Worker US$18,000, Court Hears

A Harare man who was allegedly arrested for swindling a ZB bank employee of US$18 000 has appeared in court for trial.

USD5,000 – file copy

The suspect Michael Mutsvunguma, who appeared before Magistrate Chido Garwe denied the offence saying the complainant, Colleta Mhishi did not give him the money.

Mutsvunguma told Garwe that on the day Mhishi is alleged to have given him the money, he was away facilitating the processing of a forensic post-mortem of his father-in-law accompanied by Police Homicide team that included Constable Cherai, Sergeant Musakaruka and Earnest Arufaneti.

The complainant had alleged the money was for a Mercedes Benz the accused was selling.

But the accused denied saying he had no vehicle that was on sale, adding that the complainant had some deal with her sister Victoria Dhlamini, who is said to be on the run.

Mutsvunguma said the complainant wanted to take the vehicle illegally through misrepresentation.

The matter was postponed to today for trial continuation.

Allegations against Mutsvunguma are that on May 3 the complainant was approached by Dhlamini, who informed her that she together with the accused person were selling a Mercedes Benz E250 which she thought the complainant might be interested in buying.

It is alleged Dhlamini and the complainant arranged for the car to be brought by the accused person to the complainant’s office at corner Samora Machel and Rotten Row, Harare on May 10 for assessment and testing.

Dhlamini allegedly indicated that they wanted to sell to complainant at a giveaway price of US$18 000 so that they could raise money for a business deal in Shamva where they could make a huge profit enough to cover up for the under-priced car.

It is alleged that on May 9, the complainant went on to inform her car mechanic Russel Chiweza and asked him to pass by her office to do a mechanical check on the Mercedes Benz before complainant could make a payment.

The State alleges that on May 10 at 08:30hours the accused person came to complainant’s office car park with an unregistered white Mercedes Benz E250. He parked it and invited the complainant to come and see.

It is alleged that the complainant came with Chiweza, who inspected the car and concluded that the car was in perfect condition.

She then handed over US$18 000 to the accused as payment in the presence of her mechanic.

After the transaction, the complainant allegedly asked the accused person to go and clean, polish and do interior washing of the car.

It is alleged as a familiar family person, the complainant believed that the accused would do as agreed since he knew where complainant resided and the accused was expected to deliver the vehicle as agreed.

The accused person, however, allegedly failed to deliver the vehicle as per agreement.

It is alleged late Thursday in the evening, the complainant called Dhiamini through her cell phone inquiring whether the car had been cleaned and made ready for parking and she confirmed that everything was still above board and the car would be delivered as promised.

The State alleges that on the 14th of May 2021, both accused person and Dhlamini were no longer reachable on their cell phones and were also not responding to complainant’s calls.

The complainant then made a police report. Newsday

Bring Back Marry Chiwenga’s Kids

State Institutions must not be used to settle domestic challenges.

As women’s rights organizations we are concerned and worried at the ongoing saga involving the Vice President Dr. CGN Chiwenga and his wife, Mary Chiwenga.

It is therefore disturbing that since their fall out things have turned terribly nasty specially for Mary Chiwenga.

She has been arrested and arraigned before the courts and eventually granted bail after long proceedings at the High Court. If she is guilty of the offences for which she was arrested for then justice will take its course but in the meantime she should enjoy her presumption of innocence.

Therefore, it is distressing that Courts should seem to be working on a presumption of guilty so much as to deny her the much needed medical attention she requires.

Further, we appeal to the Honourable Vice President CGN Chiwenga to allow Mary Chiwenga access to their children. As women, some of us being mothers, we understand the pain of being separated from our children hence our call for the couple to find common ground where they can
share in the growth of their kids..

In the final call, we also note that State institutions must not be used to settle domestic differences.

This is in respect of allegations by Mary Chiwenga that some sections of the security forces were used to remove her property from one of the couple’s homes. We therefore urge the couple, whose stature attracts national attention, to resolve their differences amicably and to give their children an enabling environment for them to grow and attain their full potential as they themselves have
been able to do.

Mnangagwa Says: Judicial Independence Guaranteed

NATIONAL, BUSINESS, BREAKING

Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday told the Southern Africa Chief Justices’ Forum jointly hosted by Zimbabwe and Zambia in Victoria Falls that the Second Republic would continue respecting the independence of the Judiciary and the principle of separation of powers in line with the tenets of constitutional democracy.

He said Zimbabwe had one of most transparent systems in Africa in terms of the appointment of judges of the superior courts.

Prospective judges were subjected to public interviews in terms of Section 180 (4) of the Constitution.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has to invite nominations of qualified and experienced lawyers, and members of the public can make these nominations, who are then short-listed for interviews, which are held under public glare.

While promotions from the High Court to the Supreme and Constitutional Courts no longer required interviews, those moved up had track records that everyone could see.

“Allow me to emphasise that my Government respects the principle of separation of powers and the independence of the Judiciary as a cornerstone of a constitutional democracy. We have one of the most transparent judges’ appointment systems in which prospective judges are subjected to public interviews by the Judicial Service Commission,” he said.

“Government, therefore respects the decisions and orders of the courts and has put in place mechanisms to enforce those orders. This is indeed a fundamental aspect of the rule of law.”

The President said the need to respect the independence of the Judiciary did not however, imply that judges should not be held accountable.

“An accountable and transparent Judiciary is one that people can have uttermost confidence in and one that is free of corruption while also expeditiously dealing with and finalising matters before the courts,” he said.

“Judiciary independence is guaranteed as the essence of the rule of law on condition that the principles of transparency and accountability are observed in the performance of judicial functions.”

But Zimbabwe has constitutionally entrenched provisions for security of tenure provisions that also protect the Judiciary from the perceptions of victimisation. Dismissal of a judge before retirement age is a complex process involving a recommendation and then an independent tribunal to investigate.

President Mnangagwa said the Judiciary provided an essential service and implored delegates drawn from 11 countries to embrace information communication technologies and harness its potential in light of Covid-19.

“Even in such difficult times, you have an obligation to ensure that the wheels of justice do not grind to a halt. Justice must be kept alive and accessible to all. There is therefore need for the Judiciary to be innovative and come up with ways to continue dispensing justice,” said President Mnangagwa.

He said ICT was a key strategic focus area of the Second Republic underpinning Vision 2030 which sought to achieve an upper middle-income status for the country’s economy.

He said there was a compelling need for expeditious hearing and finalisation of commercial disputes by the courts as part of reforms for ease of doing business.

“As such, my Government facilitated the establishment of a stand-alone commercial court which specialises on commercial disputes. In addition, an integrated electronic case management system that allows for e-filing of documents, amongst other digital functionalities has been adopted,” said President Mnangagwa.

The e-filing seeks to take full advantage of the benefits of flexibility and automation of court processes which foster efficiency, transparency and improved access to justice.

Court procedures will be expedited while minimising direct human contact at certain stages of the process, thus eliminating opportunities for corruption. “This will undoubtedly contribute to the efficiency of our courts in line with best international standards.”

The President said a “needs-based approach” was essential where specific requirements of particular communities were to be catered for.

“Wholesome implementation of the new technology-based innovations without taking into account such special needs of rural populations, has capacity to undo all our efforts towards breaking barriers to the access to justice. In undertaking your work as the judiciary, you have an obligation to ensure that no one and no place is left behind,” he said. “Our technological innovations must therefore be appropriately customised to meet those basic requirements.”

The President warned that security in the face of cyber-crime, which may threaten the efficacy and credibility of the systems, must be at the forefront when deploying computer-based technology in the administration of justice. -Herald

MDC A Uses Marry Chiwenga-Case To Abuse President Mnangagwa

Dr Masimba Mavaza

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | In the past weeks the social media was awash with words of sympathy for Mary Chiwenga who is said to be being unfairly treated by the Vice President of Zimbabwe. Many women in the UK believe that the treatment of Mary Chiwenga reflects the government treatment of women.

It is one of the points taken up by the MDC in the UK who are adding that on the list of their grievances and demonstrate against cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa when he comes to Scotland.

This is one of the clear signs of desperation exhibited by the MDC and all those who purport to be human rights advocates.

The starting point is that the Mary Mubaiwa issue has nothing to do with govt. Chiwenga despite being the VP, has a private life and it must be respected. We must all understand that where an individual may be considered by some to be a role model, that individual’s private life may not be less deserving of protection than yours or mine. Behind Gen Chiwenga there is a human being and his personal life and which wife he marries must not reflect a policy on women. Zimbabwe does not need to be measured by personal actions of one man.

The respect of women by the Zim government is far beyond the way they are respected in other countries. We as Zimbabweans must beat our chest with pride for encompassing the women and women’s rights.

The VP decided to end his relationship with Madam Marry Chiwenga; that was his choice it has no input from the government.

Ending a long term relationship is always hard but sometimes it gets ugly really ugly despite the most courageous efforts for it to be otherwise.

It doesn’t always take two to tango unless you count one to set the pace and one to get dragged along in a savage tailwind. Of course, when there are two people acting to maim, the ugliness will be all the uglier, but it only takes one person being nasty, unreasonable and manipulative to turn a relationship malignant.
Ending a bad relationship doesn’t make the toxicity immediately wash away. Sometimes it will get worse before it gets better but always, if the relationship was a bad one, it will be worth it. Walking away takes self-respect, self-love and courage and is the only way to position yourself (and your kids if you have them) for the life you deserve. Gone are the days when divorces are only done and managed by men. These days women do cause and make the divorce ugly.

You can’t change other people, but you would know that by now it’s probably this wisdom that walked you out the door. If your divorce has turned into a slugfight, there are ways to look after yourself (and your kids) until you reach solid ground which you will.

Sometimes as a father you have this need to protect your children so you keep them away from the battle ground. This is important. It’s also really hard to keep your children away from their mother but we can not blame Constantino Chiwenga without looking at the case on the ground. Ask yourself, with an open heart, if you will be doing everything you can to be reasonable in a divorce. None of us are perfect and a divorce can make the best of us act how to put it without losing you in ways that we might not be proud of.

In every divorce, high emotion, shame and heartache can steal you some people do hand over their dignity by acting in ways that are beneath them. Sometimes it’s the only thing they can’t touch. Be honest, brave and always self-respectful.

Many times people divorce but we never put the cruel tag on their companies they work for. Why do we put a tag on ZANU PF for a personal war in the Vice President’s bedroom.

A divorce is many things, politics is not one of them. The end of a relationship doesn’t mean your decision to be with your ex-partner in the first place was flawed. The success of a relationship isn’t determined by how long it lasts. The investment of love and energy in a relationship will always be worth it, but it won’t necessarily guarantee forever. The past is the past and sometimes love, time, commitment and desire don’t stretch as far ahead in years as we’d like them to – and that’s okay. People change. Circumstances change. Relationships change. Psychology researcher Daniel Gilbert and colleagues found that “people underestimate how much they will change in the future. We change a lot. Sometimes it’s in the same direction as the person we love and sometimes we veer sharply in a different one.

Sometimes we wake up next to each other and realise we couldn’t be further apart. It happens. It’s part of being human.” So Chiwenga and Marry made their decision, which cannot be measured by the party or nation Chiwenga represents. Zanu pf has a limit. It ends where your door starts. Once you are in your house it is not a rally or a parliament. It is a house.

In Zimbabwe you have the right to live your life privately without government interference and without the press dragging your life to the public domain.
This covers things like your right to determine your sexual orientation, your lifestyle, and the way you look and dress. Life changes sharply when a relationship breaks down. You don’t have to do everything the way you used to. You don’t have to do everything, fullstop. You just have to do enough. Figure out what that looks like and go with it. You deserve the freedom that comes from that. So people must not expect Marry Chiwenga to be given the treatment she got when she was the 2nd Lady.

Before we judge Chiwenga we must remember that when a marriage or relationship breaks down it will likely bring shame, and breathe life into every fear of not being good enough, normal enough, successful enough and perhaps most heartbreakingly, loveable enough. People have all sorts of responses to shame, some of which are completely unfathomable to those of us looking in from the outside. When shame is involved, people will do anything to protect themselves.
Being the wife or husband of the President of a country can’t exactly be an easy role to take on and yet the partners in the first or second families have no other option. Having a husband who is the head of a country comes with its own benefits, sure, but it also comes with a lot of pressure and public scrutiny. It has to be especially tough for the partners divorcing while they are used to live in the spotlight.
People tend to make decisions and judge without looking in the case on the round.
Presidential partners also have to follow a strict set of rules and guidelines that affect everything from how they act in public, to where they go, to their daily life at home. Some of these rules can be, and have been, broken by the president’s wives but that decision can come with a lot of backlash.

Marry Chiwenga nee Mubaiwa is an ex-model and the ex wife of Vice President of Zimbabwe, Constantino Chiwenga who is a Retired Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces. She was once married to Shingi Kaondera, a footballer who played for Caps United Football Club. She was the patron and chairperson of the Miss Zimbabwe Trust until her resignation in February 2018.
In December 2019, Marry Chiwenga was arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission on fraud, money laundering and misrepresentation charges. The laundering charge involved buying a home in South Africa. The misrepresentation charge emanated from an apparent misrepresentation of her husband, vice president Chiwenga.

The problems of Marry Chiwenga and the law have nothing to do with her former husband the Vice president. The fact that the courts are making it hard for Marry to see her children and that the court demands her to come to court as and when she is wanted does not mean that the courts are compromised.

Chiwenga has no control of what happens in the courts. What is happening in the courts now simply shows the world that Zimbabwe respects the rule of law. Every one in Zimbabwe is equal before the law. Even if you are the ex of the Vice President you will be required to submit to the law. In this case there’s probably been a shift in power from one ex-partner to another. It’s likely Madam Mary will be feeling disempowered, ineffective and small. Cruelty is an attempt to reverse this by shrinking her ego.

But this is not done by the Party.
Marry Chiwenga must know that she is not out of control – just out of his control. Any choice she makes in independence will send a message like a slap that your’re no longer under their influence. As with anything, when what people have always done (control, disrespect, manipulate) stops working, they will do it even more before they stop. It’s human nature. Now we have the MDC manipulating the Chiwenga saga to their own advantage. The MDC now wants to use a private case as a reason to demonstrate in Scotland. Manipulation is a way for people to get what they want without being rejected, by taking away the option to say, ‘no’. For people who manipulate, ‘no’ doesn’t feel like a rejection of a request, it feels like a rejection of them. As a result, they’ll do whatever is necessary to get their needs met without putting themselves in the position of being rejected.

What is happening with Marry Mubaiwa and Constantino Chiwenga is a messy divorce. A messy divorce is one that’s particularly complicated, either through the couple’s ties to each other, or their varied attempts to sever them.

So trying to draw parallel lines between a private life of Chiwengas and government policy on women’s rights is too low even for the MDC. We must not measure the human rights levels of Zimbabwe with the happenings in Chiwenga’s private life.

Barcelona Lean Spell Continues

FC Barcelona’s problems continue, after they were held to a disappointing goalless draw away at Cadiz last night, a situation which has put coach Ronald Koeman under scrutiny yet again.

The Catalan giants have not won a game in September- they were demolished 0-3 by Bayern Munich in Champions League, drew 1-1 with Granada before last night’s goalless stalemate.

They have won only two of their opening five matches in the 2021/22 LaLiga season.

Koeman, for the umpteenth time, bemoaned ‘poor officiating’ after him and midfielder Frenkie de Jong were sent off in the second half.

Reports in Spain suggest that the Dutchman’s job is hanging by a thread, with club former midfielder Xavi, believed to be the favourite to replace Koeman, should he be shown the exit door.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Nakamba Set For CR7 Showdown

Warriors star Marvellous Nakamba is set for a Cristiano Ronaldo showdown as his Aston Villa take on Manchester United at Old Trafford tomorrow.

The Zimbabwe international took part in Villa’s 3-0 demolition of Everton last week, and was superb after coming on for Scottish international John McGinn.

He also played in the Carabao Cup third round defeat to Chelsea yesterday and was brilliant in the middle of the park despite his penalty in the shootout being saved by Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa.

Tomorrow, Villa take on a United side powered by a free-scoring Ronaldo.

The five-time World Player of the Year has scored four goals in three matches for United, since his triumphant return to the club.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

COVID-19 Not An Excuse For Postponement Of By-elections – US Embassy

President Chamisa Tears Into “Immature” Mnangagwa

FULL TEXT: Women Groups Finally Speak On Chiwenga-Marry Mubaiwa Feud

We therefore urge the couple, while stature attract national attention, to resolve their differences amicably and to give their children an enabling environment for them to grow and attain their full potential as they themselves have been able to do

the statement was issued by the following organisations, WALPE, FEMPRIST, Rural Young Women Support Network and CHITREST.

Gender Commission Descends On Johanne Marange Church

Following the recent death of Anna Machaya (14) at the Johanne Marange Apostolic Church shrine, Zimbabwe Gender Commission has descended on the church as part of its investigations into matters surrounding harmful religious practices which perpetuate sexual exploitation and abuse of women, a local weekly has revealed.

The commission’s chief executive officer, Ms Virginia Muwanigwa, confirmed the ongoing investigations and said they are not limited to one denomination, but the apostolic sect sector as a whole.

She said they would soon publish a Government Gazette notice inviting members of the public to make submissions.

Anna Machaya recently died while giving birth at the Mafararikwa Shrine, resulting in the arrest of her ‘‘husband’’ —Hatirarame ‘‘Evans’’ Momberume — on murder and sleeping with a minor charges. Momberume is in remand prison awaiting trial.

“In terms of the Zimbabwe Gender Commission Act, we are mandated to investigate systematic barriers prejudicial to gender equality, gender equity or gender mainstreaming.

A systemic barrier means any barrier, practice, custom, law or other impediments prejudicial to the achievement of gender equality, gender equity or gender main-streaming.

“Institutionalisation of sexual exploitation and abuse of women and child marriages constitute a major barrier to the realisation of full gender equality.

The harmful effects of child marriages in inhibiting their full potential and exposing them to GBV and STIs as well as HIV cannot be overemphasised.

“The Commission has over the past years been seized with the matters surrounding harmful religious practices which perpetuate sexual exploitation and abuses of women and child marriages as part of its broader mandate.

The investigation is, therefore, not limited to Marange as a church, nor the parties involved in the Anna Machaya case only,” said Ms Muwanigwa.

Probed on their preliminary findings, Ms Muwanigwa said: “From our preliminary inquiry targeted at Johanne Marange Apostolic Church, we observed that there is strict adherence to the literal interpretation of the Bible which places women as people of lower standing to men insofar as religious processes and rites are concerned.

Women have no right to address the church gathering and cannot occupy leadership positions. It is this ideology which breeds various other gender rights violations.

“The sector is closed to the outside world. Only parishioners are privy to the church rites and protocols. The members are highly indoctrinated and do not reveal the information to outsiders.”

She added: “We also observed the existence of several other practices outside child marriages which severely impair the dignity of women and young girls including, but not limited to compulsory virginity testing, betrothal, pledging, forced marriages and denying women access to sexual and reproductive health rights.

“The identified rights violations are rooted in the beliefs, doctrines and ideology and require involvement of the members, leadership and protocols to try and trigger change so that the right to religious beliefs is exercised in line with the confines of the Constitutional imperatives on gender equality and women’s rights.”

She said although at policy level the church leadership has expressed interest in abiding by the country’s laws as its leader (High Priest Noah Taguta) has on many occasions denounced child marriages, the practice still persists unabated.

In a recent interview, Marange Apostolic Church co-ordinator and spokesperson, Mr Nyasha Marange, said: “We do not condone child marriages.”

‘‘When individuals commit offences, the church will not protect them. We have suffered a lot of bad publicity because of individuals’ misdeeds and I want to reiterate that our High Priest, Noah Taguta, always speaks strongly against child marriages.

“We are a law-abiding church and we urge the police to thoroughly investigate all child abuse cases and bring all perpetrators to book.”

However, Ms Muwanigwa, said: “Most members interviewed who are part of the church were not willing to divulge information. Women who are part of the church are afraid to be seen talking to outside people for fear of being labelled sell-outs.

“Secondary information obtained so far points to the existence of child marriages in the sect. We, however, want to make it categorically clear that the practice is not peculiar to the Johanne Marange Apostolic Church alone as several other religious denominations, indigenous and non-indigenous, have rites and practices which breed child marriages and forced marriages.

It is also important to note that the practice has also surged even outside the faith-based sectors. The Covid-19 pandemic and the socio-economic situation has worsened the situation in a big way.

“Coming back to Marange, there was information to the effect that the culture and norms of the church have become so engrossed that even children now voluntarily give themselves away to men. Poverty is also a driver in these state of affairs.

‘‘Child marriages have become so common in the Marange area that even those who are not followers of Johanne Marange Church are also now into the harmful cultural practice,” said Mrs Muwanigwa.

She called for continuous engagement of all stakeholders and religious leaders to end child marriages.

“There is need to address the current legislative regime with regards to marriages of young persons, sexual intercourse with minors and harmonisation of the customary and civil marriages.

Currently there is no harmony between the Marriages Act, Domestic Violence Act and Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act,” she said.

Speaker Told To Reinstate Biti And Five Other Legislators Recalled By Mwonzora

By A Correspondent| The High Court has ordered Speaker of Parliament Advocate Jacob Mudenda to reinstate recalled MDC Alliance legislators including Tendai Biti, Willias Madzimure and three others.

This follows a High Court ruling which nullified the recall instituted by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) led by Lucia Matibenga.

The court ruled that the recalled MPs who include Vice President Tendai Biti and five others were not part of the party which recalled them.

Earlier, Mudenda refused to reinstate the recalled legislators following an earlier default ruling made by the High Court after PDP failed to file opposing papers to the appeal.

Shock As Minor Boy Rapes 5 Other Minors

By A Correspondent- A Lower Gweru juvenile allegedly raped two sisters and three cousins aged between six and eight years, and ran away when the crimes were discovered.

The boy allegedly raped his two sisters aged seven and eight respectively as well as three cousins, one aged seven and the other two, six years.

Both the boy (15) and the complainants lived with their grandmother when the alleged rape incidents occurred.

According to a police memo from the Gweru Rural Police Station addressed to the officer commanding Gweru rural district, the boy disappeared after the alleged last rape incident on September 8.

It is alleged that on the day he disappeared at around 11pm at a plot in Lower Gweru, the 60-year-old granny heard the five minor girls making noise in their bedroom hut.

One of the children said she had screamed during a rape ordeal, waking the others up.

Upon being discovered, the juvenile took off and was never seen again.

The other children also narrated their ordeals at the hands of the juvenile.

On September 14, the granny went to Insukamini police base where she filed a report.

Two police constables took the girls to Gweru Provincial Hospital for medical examination.

The matter is being investigated under Gweru rural RRB number 4629720.

#Ngaapinde Hake Mukomana Takes Masvingo By Storm

By Jeffryson Chitando

President Chamisa

“#Ngaapinde Hake Mukomana! has taken Masvingo by storm as it has become the fashionable greetings in the high density areas of Mucheke , Runyararo, Chesvingo and Rujeko.

The youths and adults can be heard shouting at each in high celebratory mood to one another “#NgaapindeHake Mukomana” and the other replying ” Kutadziswa neiko Ngaapinde Mukomana or ” Bholato PaMukomana ipapo.

The mood which the hastag has created is likely to shake rural areas in a very short space of time as it is spreading like veldfire.

By A Correspondent- Tapiwa Makore Senior, who was arrested last September in Murehwa on accusations of killing his Seven-year-old nephew and namesake Tapiwa Jnr, was Thursday denied bail pending trial by the High Court.

The judgement was delivered by High Court judge Justice Mhuri, who said that there is a probability that Makore would try to escape the consequences of his crimes which are likely to be serious.

“Applicant is facing a murder charge of a juvenile aged 7 … murder by its nature is a very serious offense which invariably calls for a very severe penalty, and as submitted by respondent may attract a death penalty, life imprisonment or a very long definite prison term. This will induce the applicant to abscond,” Justice Mhuri said

Justice Mhuri had further decreed that granting Makore bail would not be welcomed by the public and it would make people lose confidence in the courts and judicial system.

“…it is my considered view that it will not be in the best interest of justice to grant the applicant bail. Granting applicant bail will lead the public to lose confidence in the criminal justice system. I am persuaded that there are compelling reasons not to grant the applicant the liberty he is seeking pending his trial. To that end therefore, I will not grant the indulgence he is seeking. It is, in the result, ordered that the application for bail pending trial be and is hereby dismissed,” the judge said.

Makore, was arrested and jailed last year together with his twin brother Thanks, their sister-in-law, Maud Hunidzarira and a herdsman by the name of Tafadzwa Shambawere. They were accused of abducting the boy while he was attending to the family’s vegetable garden on Sept 17.

After his arrest, Shamba confessed to the police that he kidnapped, drugged, and mutilated the boy so he could sell his body parts to a witch doctor for $1,500 (U.S.).

The four were remanded in prison by Harare Magistrate and were advised to file for bail at the High Court.

Thanks and Hunidzarira were granted bail application by the High Court in December last year and Tapiwa senior also approached the court with the application of his own arguing that there was no real risk he would abscond as he has a family and is of fixed abode and wanted to be treated the same with co accused persons.

Boy Mauled By Hyena Finally Gets A New Nose

Rodwell Khomazana

By A Correspondent- It was an exceptional long weekend for 9-year-old Rodwell Khomazana, as he received his prosthetic nose at the Capital Prosthodontics and Henk Cronje of Dura Art Dental Laboratory in Pretoria.

The brave Zimbabwean boy was ecstatic to receive this gift after he was brutally attacked by a hyena at a night vigil he had attended with his grandmother outside Harare late in May.

The Smile Foundation and outstanding medical practitioners, who included Dr Avish Jay Jagathpal and his team, sponsored Khomazana with a prosthetic nose and made sure he received pro bono services throughout his implanting surgery.

“From the day I had met Rodwell, I knew that making him a prosthetic nose will be a challenge. The biggest hurdles to overcome were the multiple grafts from different parts of his body that introduced many different colours to the palette, and his age meant that the size of his face will change drastically over the years to come,” said Jagathpal.

It had taken three weeks to record the positions of the missing nose, the topography of the grafted skin, and the positions of each of the implants, he said. And when Khomazana puts it on, it forms a seal that enables him to breathe through it.

“The maxillofacial surgeon had fortunately placed implants into the upper jaw that we had used to construct a cobalt-chromium bar with magnets on it.

“This bar would remain in place over the years, but the silicone nose would easily be changed with time as his grafted skin shrinks and his face grows,” explained Jagathpal.

His mother, Shamiso Mabiko has been educated on how to clean the inside magnetic bar – the nose clips on and off like a magnet.

“My son’s confidence has been restored after the procedure. I am very happy about Rodwell’s new nose. He gave a big thumbs up for a successful operation,” said Mabiko.

In a few years’ time, Khomazana will undergo reconstructive surgery for a new nose. The medical experts who have been on his journey to success describe him as a “hero without a cape”

Cheating Byo Man Who Impregnated Married Woman Slapped With Lawsuit

IF you’re the unfaithful, get it, read it and carefully consider the advice. If you’re the betrayed, give it to your unfaithful spouse.

Never sleep with a married person.

In a devastating turn of events, a Bulawayo man, who allegedly bedded and impreg_nated a married woman, got more than what he had bargained for when he was slapped with a US$50 000 adultery lawsuit by his alleged lover’s husband.

Mthulisi Dube from Nkulumane 14 suburb came to realise that there is no joy in bedding a married woman when he was sued by Lawrence Mqondisi Ncube for allegedly engaging in an adulter0us relationship with his wife Cynthia Ncube (nee Muzamba).

In his summons filed by his legal practitioners, Sauramba SP Attorneys at the Bulawayo High Court under case number HC1293/21 Lawrence who is based in South Africa, said as a result of the adulter0us relationship between Dube and his wife he lost the services and comfort that come with a “blissful” marriage.

He said the tryst between his wife and her lover started sometime in 2019.

“Plaintiff (Lawrence Mqondisi Ncube) was married to Cynthia Ncube nee Muzamba on the 8th of August 2016 at Bulawayo in terms of the Marriage Act (Chapter 5:11). The marriage still subsists.

“Since 2019 defendant committed adult_ery with plaintiff’s spouse. The adult_ery resulted in a child and breakdown of the plaintiff’s marriage. Plaintiff has instituted divorce proceedings,” Lawrence’s summons read in part.

As a result of the adult_ery plaintiff has suffered the following damages.

“Contumelia inflicted upon the plaintiff in the amount of US$25 000 payable at ZWL equivalent at the bank rate prevailing on the day of payment and loss of consortium in the amount of US$25 000 also payable at ZWL equivalent at the bank rate prevailing on the day of payment.

Drama As Father Nearly Chokes Own Daughter Over Vir_ginity

By A Correspondent- There was drama in Nkulumane suburb when one man almost killed his 14-year-old daughter by choking her after suspecting that she had lost her virgi_nity.

The minor was reportedly saved from Coolboy Sikhumbuzo Moyo’s grip by two men who were passing by.

After the incident, the girl’s grandmother, Naomi Ndlovu immediately applied for a protection order barring Moyo from physically and verbally abusing his daughter.

In Ndlovu’s application, the girl also took the opportunity to narrate the horrendous incident: “It was on 11 June 2021, at around 3pm when I was coming from the shops in the company of my friend when I met my father by the gate of our home.

We greeted him and he greeted us back then he immediately told my friend to go away and that he did not want to see her near me,” she said.

She added that as she was talking to her father he began twisting her arm, at the same time asking whether she was still a virg_in or not.

“I felt the pain and loosened myself from his grip and opened the gate trying to get into the yard, but he got hold of me again,” she said.

She said her father only released her when her grandmother intervened.-BMetro

When It Comes To Zimbabwe’s 41yrs And Counting Of Rigged Elections- It Takes Three To Tango

By Wilbert Mukori- When it comes to Zimbabwe’s rigged elections – it takes three to tango. The ruling party Zanu PF, the MDC opposition and the ordinary Zimbabweans have all played a part in historic fact that Zimbabwe has never ever held free, fair and credible elections. Never ever, so far!

“One man, one vote!” was the blacks’ rallying call in the fight to end white colonial oppression and exploitation.

Every black Rhodesian, as the country was called then, understood why they needed a vote; blacks were third class citizens whose economic and social needs were considered last after those of the first and second class citizens. As third class citizens, blacks had no political rights, notably no vote and thus no meaningful say in the governance of the country.

The blacks were the native of Rhodesia, not the white colonialists; this was the blacks’ ancestral land. How can they then be denying a meaningful say in the governance of their own ancestral land!

“One man, one vote!” was notion that was both simple and logical it is no surprise that it was universally embraced by all blacks in Zimbabwe and, indeed, all blacks in Africa.

“Seek ye first the political kingdom and all else will follow.” said one of Africa’s most illustrious Black Nationalist and philosopher, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President.

It is now 41 years after Zimbabwe gained her independence, marking the end of white colonial rule, and yet the country is yet to hold its first free, fair and credible elections. After 41 years, “One man, one vote!” and the right to having a meaningful say in the governance of the country still remains an  aspiration. Why?

By the time Zimbabwe held her first elections where blacks were allowed to vote, Robert Mugabe and his fellow Zanu PF nationalists, had already decided they wanted independent Zimbabwe to be a one-party, Zanu PF, state. Zanu PF’s campaign message in the 1980 elections was that if the party did not win the elections, the bush war would continue.

Of course, the people voted to end the war. And, of course,  that was the very antithesis of a free, fair and credible elections and a meaningful say in the governance of the country.

Mugabe launched the 1983 to 1987 Gukurahundi massacre whose primary purpose was to force the late Dr Joshua Nkomo and his PF Zapu party to join Zanu PF and thus setting the stage for the imposing of the de facto one-party dictatorship. On paper, the country was a multi-party democracy and so Zanu PF was obliged to hold regular elections, which the party rigged and won.

The 2008 elections have become a land make elections in that Zanu PF had to resort to blatant cheating and wanton violence, the worst the country had ever seen, to retain power.

“What was won by the gun cannot be undone by the ballot!” thundered Robert Mugabe, as the war veterans, the party militia and the thousands of Army, Police and CIO personal behind the wanton violence ran amok.

Robert Mugabe and now Emmerson Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies have always viewed Zimbabwe as their country by conquest and they and they alone have the divine right to govern the country as they see fit. They could therefore never uphold “One man, one vote!” and its sanctimonious and uncompromising demand for “meaningful say” because it conflicted with their cherished goal of one-party state and no regime change!

By the late 1990s, it was clear to most Zimbabweans that as long as Zanu PF continues to enjoy the carte blanche dictatorial powers to rig elections, they, the ordinary people, will never have a meaningful say in the governance of the country. The national consensus was that the nation needed to implement democratic changes to stop Zanu PF rigging elections. The nation needed to restore “One man, one vote!”

Morgan Tsvangirai and his friends launched their political party in 1999 to ride on the popular demand for democratic change and it was no surprised they called the party Movement for Democratic Change (MDC). The people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb to elect MDC leaders into power on the understanding the party will deliver democratic change.

After 22 years, 5 of which in the 2008 to 2013 Government of National Unity (GNU), MDC has failed to implement even one token democratic change. Mugabe bribed Tsvangirai and company to forget the reforms during the GNU, when the country had its best chance ever to dismantle the Zanu PF dictatorship.

Ever since the 2008 to 2013 GNU MDC debacle and sell-out, the party has all but abandoned all hope of implementing any democratic reforms and deliver the long awaited “One man, one vote!” Chamisa and company cannot call for the implementation of democratic reforms without having to answer why they failed to implement even one reform when they had the golden chance to do so during the GNU.

Ever since the GNU Nelson Chamisa and his MDC friends have participated in flawed and illegal elections, knowing fully well that Zanu PF was rigging the elections, for the sake of the few gravy train seats Zanu PF was giving away to entice the opposition to participate. By participating the opposition is giving credibility to the flawed process and, by extension, give vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy.

The people themselves have been their own worst enemy in that they have never taken the trouble to understand what it would take to guarantee “One man, one vote!” Ever since the national consensus on the need for democratic change; the people have repeated the MDC slogans calling for change without ever what the changes are much less how they would be implemented.

Of course, if the people knew what the democratic changes were, etc. then they would know the GNU was a golden opportunity to end the Zanu PF dictatorship and thus comprehend the full import of MDC’s betrayal. They would also understand the sheer folly of participating in these flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy.

As it is, the people have, at best, inkling the 2023 elections are not going to be free, fair and credible and still they are as keen as mustard to participate. They have bought into Nelson Chamisa and MDC A lie that the opposition has devised Winning In Rigged Elections (WIRE) strategies.  All attempts to show these WIRE strategies are nothing but recycled arguments that have been tried and failed, have been dismissed with impatience and even hostility!

“All you ever talk about is rigged elections and the need to implement reforms! Talk about something different!” If I have heard that said once, I have heard it said a hundred thousand times!

An illustrative example straight out of children story of the buffoon who would not clean his ears. When he was stone-deaf and still he insisted there must be another cause and not ear wax although he had by then a mushroom stock sticking out of each ear like a tortoise emerging out of its shell!

You cannot have free, fair and credible elections, “One man, one vote!” and meaningful say in the governance of the country and still allow Zanu PF carte blanche dictatorial powers to rig the elections. The children’s story buffoon will never hear a sound as long as the tortoise wax dwell in his ears.

Free elections go with good governance as rigged elections go with bad governance and the two concepts are mutual exclusive!

Zimbabwe had failed to hold free, fair and credible elections because all the three key players in Zimbabwe politics; the ruling party Zanu PF, opposition MDC and the ordinary Zimbabweans themselves; have, disregarded “One man, one vote!” for selfish reason or have failed to fulfil its demands. All three have been found wanting for Zimbabwe to be a healthy and functioning democracy able to hold free, fair and credible elections.

From 1980 to 2008, Zimbabwe is de facto one party dictatorship. From 2013 to present it is still a de facto one party dictatorship masquerading as a multi-party democracy thanks to the opposition whose participation in flawed elections is giving the dictatorship democratic legitimacy. Both Zanu PF and MDC are benefiting from this marriage of convenience.

It is for the ordinary Zimbabweans to open their eyes, remove the tortoise wax out of their ears and learn what “One man, one vote!” means and what it will take to become a reality in Zimbabwe. Free elections, democracy and good governance demand an informed and diligent electorate not a naive and gullible one particularly when it was has to dismantle a ruthless autocracy like this Zanu PF dictatorship.

Juvenile Rapes 5 Minors, Goes Awol

Goblins Target Minor Girls At Hospital

By A Correspondent- Health officials have engaged traditionalists and churches following reports that suspected goblins are se_xually abusing minor girls at Tsholotsho District Hospital, a development that has resulted in the community shunning the health facility for services.

Three staff members’ families who share a house within the hospital cottages are alleged to have been tormented by the goblins for the past two weeks.

Three minor girls staying at the house have reportedly been seeing “strange things” and each morning there would be blood stains on their privates.

Hospital authorities with the help of Tsholotsho Senator Cde Alice Dube, District Medical Officer Doctor Mbonisi Nyathi and the District Development Co-ordinator’s office have found alternative place of residence for the three girls at a guest house at the Tsholotsho Centre.

Dr Nyathi said hospital services have not been affected so far although some members of the public are now generally scared to visit the health facility.

“These things are confined to the three families living at that house and others are not affected. So far stakeholders and local leadership are helping and have engaged traditionalists while churches are also conducting prayer sessions,” he said.

Senator Dube said the minor girls need help.

“What’s happening is painful. I visited the hospital last Friday and the girls are really tormented, they need help. I saw it happening with my own eyes as one of the girls started screaming that it was tying her legs and we could see her being tied yet we couldn’t see the creature. We wait to hear from traditional leadership and we hope a solution will be found soon,” she said.

The goblins are said to be so daring such that at one point they tied one of the girls’ legs with some earphones code in full view of a crowd during a prayer session.

In another incident, the goblins allegedly locked one of the girls in a toilet and tied her hands with a string before gagging her and se_xually abusing her.

Community leaders have since sought assistance from churches and traditionalists with a cleansing prayer ceremony planned for Wednesday next week.

A group of Zionist prophets have been conducting prayer sessions at the hospital for the past few days.

A tsikamutanda who was engaged last week reportedly failed to exorcise them.

The suspected goblins have been throwing mostly kitchen utensils out of windows.

The Chronicle was told that the goblins followed the girls to the guest house and their families found a strange written warning note threatening to kill them if they are not returned to the house at the hospital.

The girls were then taken back to the hospital but have since gone back to the guest house after the intervention of prophets.

Chief Magama said:

“There is real trouble here. We have tried all avenues and we await to see what will happen. We have brought in church pastors and traditionalists but nothing has happened so far. A hospital is an important place for services hence we can’t have such things happening as this will disturb services. Zionists prophets have arranged a service on 29 September and we hope this will be solved,” said Chief Magama.

Security Guard Drowns While Poaching Fish

By A Correspondent- A 33 year old Mazowe Henderson Research security guard drowned yesterday at Mazowe dam where he was allegedly caught poaching fish by Zimbabwe National Parks (ZimParks) officials.

Martin Chisimba’s body was retrieved this afternoon by the police sub-aqua unit.

A witness who identified himself as Moto told a local publication that Chisimbe was illegally fishing in the dam using nets and a canoe when Parks officials approached him using a speed boat and he drowned after being told to go outside the dam.

“PARKS Officials who were using a speed boat approached the guard who was fish poaching and ordered him to go outside the dam and as they drove off Chisimbe drowned we are not sure if he drowned as a result of a splash of the wave from the boat or it was just fear.”

According to Parks and Wildlife Act the use of fishing nets without a permit is a criminal offense under section 85.

“Borrowed Robes Are Temporary”: President Nelson Chamisa Opens Up On Mwonzora

By A Correspondent- MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa said his party would get back everything it lost to a rival faction, including the party’s Morgan Richard Tsvangirai (MRT) headquarters.

He said the MDC Alliance did not react radically to the “illegal State-assisted” takeover of the party headquarters by the Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC-T faction because it wanted to give peace a chance.

Speaking in an interview with HSTV, Chamisa opened up on his relationship with Mwonzora, disclosing that he had to negotiate with Giles Mutsekwa to step down and pave way for his former secretary-general turned tormentor to be Senator for Manicaland after he begged him.

“If you have people getting open support from the State to take over illegally and criminally the headquarters of the party and of course, we are waiting for the Supreme Court to determine this issue, you know that kind of act is criminal, flagrant violation of the law,” Chamisa said.

“We have not responded in a radical manner because we want to give peace a chance, but we will get back everything that was taken away from the organisation.”

The MDC-T took over the MRT house last year with the aid of the military and armed police after a controversial Supreme Court ruling that declared Chamisa’s presidency of the opposition party illegal.

The MDC Alliance challenged the takeover of the party headquarters and the Supreme Court is still to make a determination.

Chamisa said he served Mwonzora embarrassment after he had lost primary polls to represent the people in Manicaland. Mwonzora, Chamisa said, begged him to accorded a senatorial position.

“I am the one who appointed Mwonzora on bended knees after he had failed to secure a seat as a Member of Parliament in Nyanga,” Chamisa said.

“He then came to me and said, look, Mr President, can you accommodate me on the list of proportional representatives in the Senate because I don’t have where I would serve the people of Zimbabwe from.

“I said fine, that’s fine, we had to convince Giles Mutsekwa in Manicaland because he was the one on the list after provincial consultations to actually step aside for Mwonzora because he was senior in the party.

Chamisa said he did the same for Morgen Komichi and Elias Mudzuri.

“They pretend as if they were parachuted from nowhere to be senators, we appointed them, but you know borrowed robes are very temporary, watch this space,” he said.

Referring to the 2014 congress held in Harare where Chamisa lost to Mwonzora for the secretary-general post, MDC Alliance said the MDC-T leader never won against him.

“Which election, we don’t want to go into it. They know what they did in 2014 when they claimed they won. I don’t want to speak ill of the dead,” Chamisa said.

“They know what they did, including the role of the State. They released money at night without following procedure from CBZ and the Reserve Bank and that money was released to some people in the party as a way of stopping Chamisa. This project of trying to fight the people’s representatives started way back.”

Chamisa said after his defeat to Mwonzora, he had talks with Tsvangirai over the issue.

He said Zanu PF had always targeted the MDC for infiltration.

“I have said that because we are a big organisation, the bigger the size, the bigger the risks and hazards of infiltration, an elephant will always have an elephant of problems, a rat will always have a rat’s problems. Size determines the size of your challenges,” Chamisa said

Trio Nabbed Over Murder Of Byo Businessman

By A Correspondent- Three men have been arrested in connection with the murder of Bulawayo businessman Mr Bevan Peters in January this year.

Mr Peters, the owner of Peter’s Bargain Centre, was attacked by Clever Dube (29) of Pumula suburb, Brian Mutandwa (22) and Jabulani Ngwenya (25) both from Entumbane suburb and they got away with US$12 000 and two gold watches.

On Saturday police received a tip-off that Dube was the one who went with his team to the Bellevue suburb where they killed Mr Peters and stole his money. Bulawayo provincial spokesperson Inspector Abedinico Ncube said:

Police reacted to the tip-off and managed to arrest the accused person who admitted that they committed the offence. Dube implicated the other three as his accomplices and two were arrested in their houses.

The trio admitted that they robbed and killed the now deceased.

It is reported that Dube, Mutandwa and Ngwenya entered Mr Peters’ house using the kitchen entrance and struck him with a golf stick on his head and they dragged him into a corridor where they killed him.

They went to Mr Peters bedroom where they opened his fitted wardrobe and stole his money, cellphone and a watch and left him for dead in his corridor.

Mr Peters was found dead by his friend, facing upwards, blood oozing from one side of the head and his legs and hands were tied with a rope.

Neighbours made a report to the police, who took the body to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) mortuary for post-mortem.

Police expressed gratitude to members of the public for providing information that led to the arrest of the accused persons and appealed for information on the whereabouts of the fourth accused person Thembani Ncube.

National Hero Status For Mugabe Ally

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF has declared the former Public Service Commission chairman, Mariyawanda Nzuwah, a national hero.

Nzuwa died in Harare on Tuesday.

He was 68.

Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe announced the conferment of the status on Nzuwah.

“I have received the message that Dr Mariyawanda Nzuwah has been declared a national hero,” said Minister Kazembe in a brief statement.

Nzuwah succeeded Mr Malcolm Thompson in 1992 as chairperson of the then Civil Service Commission and served for 26 years before his retirement in 2018, making him the longest-serving member of the Commission.

Police Round Up 100 000 Border Jumpers, Makorokoza

By A Correspondent- Police said they had arrested 50 301 people under an operation aimed at fighting cross border crimes and 48 235 others under an operation targeting illegal mining activities.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said police would continue to intensify efforts to apprehend suspects under these operations.

The two operations were launched in January as part of efforts to contain cases of smuggling and border jumping that are rampant in the country as well as illegal mining activities and violence being caused by machete gangs.

“There is an operation which is ongoing where we have deployed our personnel to man all the country’s points of entry and exit. We have also increased patrols in mining areas. As at 20 September we had arrested 50 301 since operation, ‘No to Cross Border Crimes/ Fhasi Ngamilandu Yamukanoni Yamashango/Mhosva Pamiganhu Ngadzipere/Amacala Kawaphele Emingceleni Yelizwe,’ began in January 2021,” he said.

“We also arrested 48 235 people under the operation, ‘Chikorokoza Ngachipere/ Isitsheketsha Kasiphele’ and No To Machete Gangs. “

He urged members of the public to alert the police whenever crimes are being committed.

Government continues to lose millions of dollars in potential revenue as unrelenting smugglers and border jumpers continue to defy Covid-19 lockdown regulations by escalating their illegal activities. With borders closed many traders have resorted to smuggling their goods into the country for sale.

Illegal crossing points are used as major conduits for smuggling goods in and out of the country such as cigarettes, beer, groceries and household property among other commercial goods.

The country also continues to record cases of violence in mining areas caused by machete gangs. The gangs will be targeting miners intending to rob them while in some instances the violence is caused by tensions among rival mining groups. Chronicle

Chamisa Pockets Back Lost Parliament Seats

By A Correspondent- The High Court reinstated MDC Alliance vice president and former finance minister Tendai Biti and five other former PDP officials as MPs recalled from parliament early this year by MDC-T.

The high court ruled that the six’s recall from parliament by Mwonzora was null and void.

Biti who was in 2018 elected the Harare East legislator was together with other People’s Democratic Party (PDP) parliamentarians recalled in Parliament in March this year.

The Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda said he had received notice from the PDP recalling Biti and several other opposition lawmakers.

In April, Justice Amy Tsanga ruled that Benjamin Rukanda, the man who initiated the recall of Biti, William Madzimure of Kambuzuma, Settlement Chikwinya — Mbizo, Kucaca Ivumile Phulu — Nkulumane, Sichelesile Mahlangu — Pumula and Regai Tsunga — Mutasa South was not a legitimate member of the PDP.

Rukanda then appealed against the order by Justice Amy Tsanga but the appeal was dismissed by Justice Tawanda Chitapi who found that it failed to comply with the rules.

Mwonzora has been recalling MDC Alliance MPs and Councillors since the March 2020 Supreme Court ruling on the MDC leadership crisis
which observed that Nelson Chamisa had violated the party’s constitution to attain the presidency.

MDC Alliance accuses the ruling Zanu PF of orchestrating the recalls to weaken the opposition party.

We Are Not Afraid Of By-elections: Zanu PF

THE United States of (US) embassy in Harare yesterday criticised President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government over continued suspension of by-elections, arguing that elections could be held safely despite the COVID-19 pandemic as has been proven in other African countries.

Government banned elections early last year, citing the COVID-19 outbreak, but critics accuse Mnangagwa of using the pandemic to asphyxiate the MDC Alliance while propping up the smaller MDC-T faction led by Douglas Mwonzora, which is seen as a Zanu PF proxy.

But government officials reacted angrily to the call, and accused the superpower of disrespect and interference in the affairs of a sovereign State.

The US embassy noted that the suspension had left 754 000 people in 26 constituencies with no representation in Parliament, after recalls of the legislators aligned to the Nelson Chamisa-led MDC Alliance party by MDC-T.

The purges also affected over 80 councillors, paralysing operations of some local authorities.

Posting on Twitter yesterday, the US embassy questioned why Zimbabwe continued to suspend by-elections when other countries allowed the running of polls.

“When will the Zimbabwean government resume by-elections? Long-standing parliamentary vacancies have left over 754 000 voters in 26 constituencies without elected representation. Only by-elections will restore these citizens’ rights to representation,” the US embassy said.

“Many countries have held elections despite the pandemic, including Zambia, South Africa, Malawi, and the United States, demonstrating that COVID-19-safe elections are possible. We are confident Zimbabwe can do the same #ZimsSafetoVote #ZimVotesMatter.”

In response, Information secretary Ndavaningi Mangwana said the US consulate was being “disrespectful” to the Zimbabwean government by publicly taking it to task over holding of by-elections.

“Surely, the US embassy knows where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is located,” Mangwana responded on Twitter.

“Should there be a need for a conversation on this subject, you can easily engage them and get a briefing. These highly inflammatory tweets are as disrespectful as they are unnecessary.”

Zanu PF acting spokesperson Mike Bimha told NewsDay that: “We are not scared of the by-elections. We are a political party and the decision on when to hold the elections lies (with) Zec.

“No political party dares us, because we have become stronger than ever. I am currently at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair at our party stand, where queues for new members who want to join our party are winding. We have also seen defections of several members from (opposition MDC Alliance leader Nelson) Chamisa’s party to Zanu PF, proving our party to be strong. Therefore, even if the elections are to be held today, we are confident of our victory.”

Government has, however, on several occasions eased lockdown restrictions, in the process allowing the resumption of normal business operations under strict COVID-19 protocols.- NewsDay

Korokozas Fined $40,000 Each

EIGHT (8) gold panners who were recently arrested while searching for gold along the Mazowe River, at Dillion farm, Shamva have been fined $40 000 each by a Bindura Magistrate.

The suspects appeared in court this week. National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the developments.

“The ZRP confirms the arrest of eight suspects who were found mining alluvial gold along the Mazowe River, at Dillion farm, Shamva. The suspects have since appeared before Bindura Magistrate where they were sentenced to a fine of $40 000 each.

Meanwhile, police arrested 80 people across the country for engaging in illegal mining activities.

So far 48 235 arrests have been made under the operation, Chikorokoza Ngachipere/ Isitsheketsha Kasiphele and No To Machete Gangs.

In September last year, gangs armed with machetes and knobkerries resurfaced countrywide, targeting mines and individuals keeping large amounts of cash, prompting police to relaunch “Operation Chikorokoza Ngachipere” and “No to Machete-Wielding Gangs.”

This came a few months just after police had restored order in mining areas after taking on the gangs, arresting large numbers and thwarting a wave of violence.

The violence had claimed the lives of several people and left many injured.

Criminal activities by the marauding gangs of machete attackers have seen reports of murder, rape, assault, housebreaking and stock theft.- Herald

Tragedy As Security Guard Drowns While Poaching Fish

A 33-YEAR-OLD Mazowe Henderson Research security guard drowned yesterday at Mazowe dam where he was allegedly caught poaching fish by Zimbabwe National Parks (ZimParks) officials.

Martin Chisimba’s body was retrieved this afternoon by the police sub-aqua unit.

A witness who identified himself as Moto told Bulawayo24.com that Chisimbe was illegally fishing in the dam using nets and a canoe when Parks officials approached him using a speed boat and he drowned after being told to go outside the dam.

“PARKS Officials who were using a speed boat approached the guard who was fish poaching and ordered him to go outside the dam and as they drove off Chisimbe drowned we are not sure if he drowned as a result of a splash of the wave from the boat or it was just fear.”

According to Parks and Wildlife Act the use of fishing nets without a permit is a criminal offense under section 85.- Bulawayo24

Gumbura Wives Humiliate Prophet

By Own Correspondent |
Widows of the late Martin Gumbura say they will not love any man because they are still attached to their late husband.

This comes after one prophet-cum-magician Isaac Makomichi said Gumbura widows must contact him on his number +263777469342 for prayers to get love charms.

Last month Makomichi addressed several media houses claiming he wanted to help the widows get married again.

The pastor is known for performing controversial miracles…

His followers claim he filled dry wells with water and can make people rich through his so called green powder.

However, sceptical believers describe him as a magician not a prophet.

Gumbura widows turned down Makomichi’s invitation.

“We are not going there, we don’t love any man and we will remain loyal to our late husband forever. Makomichi must leave us alone and focus on his church. We don’t judge him and we don’t even want to see him as well, we have heard a lot about him but we were shocked when he instructed us to get married again.

We didn’t even take his number, it’s not like we want to humiliate him but the thing is we still love our late husband,” Said one lady who identified herself as herself as one of Gumbura’s widows.

Some church leaders doubt the source of Makomichi powers and they accuse him of using secret powers to confuse people.

About Suicide And Mental Disorders

Key facts

More than 700 000 people die due to suicide every year.
For every suicide there are many more people who attempt suicide. A prior suicide attempt is the single most important risk factor for suicide in the general population.
Suicide is the fourth leading cause of death in 15-19-year-olds.
77% of global suicides occur in low- and middle-income countries.
Ingestion of pesticide, hanging and firearms are among the most common methods of suicide globally.
Every year 703 000 people take their own life and there are many more people who attempt suicide. Every suicide is a tragedy that affects families, communities and entire countries and has long-lasting effects on the people left behind. Suicide occurs throughout the lifespan and was the fourth leading cause of death among 15-29 year-olds globally in 2019.

Suicide does not just occur in high-income countries, but is a global phenomenon in all regions of the world. In fact, over 77% of global suicides occurred in low- and middle-income countries in 2019.

Suicide is a serious public health problem; however, suicides are preventable with timely, evidence-based and often low-cost interventions. For national responses to be effective, a comprehensive multisectoral suicide prevention strategy is needed.

Who is at risk?
While the link between suicide and mental disorders (in particular, depression and alcohol use disorders) is well established in high-income countries, many suicides happen impulsively in moments of crisis with a breakdown in the ability to deal with life stresses, such as financial problems, relationship break-up or chronic pain and illness.

In addition, experiencing conflict, disaster, violence, abuse, or loss and a sense of isolation are strongly associated with suicidal behaviour. Suicide rates are also high amongst vulnerable groups who experience discrimination, such as refugees and migrants; indigenous peoples; lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex (LGBTI) persons; and prisoners. By far the strongest risk factor for suicide is a previous suicide attempt.

Methods of suicide
It is estimated that around 20% of global suicides are due to pesticide self-poisoning, most of which occur in rural agricultural areas in low- and middle-income countries. Other common methods of suicide are hanging and firearms.

Knowledge of the most commonly used suicide methods is important to devise prevention strategies which have shown to be effective, such as restriction of access to means of suicide.

Prevention and control
Suicides are preventable. There are a number of measures that can be taken at population, sub-population and individual levels to prevent suicide and suicide attempts. LIVE LIFE, WHO’s approach to suicide prevention, recommends the following key effective evidence-based interventions:

limit access to the means of suicide (e.g. pesticides, firearms, certain medications);
interact with the media for responsible reporting of suicide;
foster socio-emotional life skills in adolescents;
early identify, assess, manage and follow up anyone who is affected by suicidal behaviours.,
These need to go hand-in-hand with the following foundational pillars: situation analysis, multisectoral collaboration, awareness raising, capacity building, financing, surveillance and monitoring and evaluation.

Suicide prevention efforts require coordination and collaboration among multiple sectors of society, including the health sector and other sectors such as education, labour, agriculture, business, justice, law, defence, politics, and the media. These efforts must be comprehensive and integrated as no single approach alone can make an impact on an issue as complex as suicide.

Challenges and obstacles
Stigma and taboo
Stigma, particularly surrounding mental disorders and suicide, means many people thinking of taking their own life or who have attempted suicide are not seeking help and are therefore not getting the help they need. The prevention of suicide has not been adequately addressed due to a lack of awareness of suicide as a major public health problem and the taboo in many societies to openly discuss it. To date, only a few countries have included suicide prevention among their health priorities and only 38 countries report having a national suicide prevention strategy.

Raising community awareness and breaking down the taboo is important for countries to make progress in preventing suicide.

Data quality
Globally, the availability and quality of data on suicide and suicide attempts is poor. Only some 80 Member States have good-quality vital registration data that can be used directly to estimate suicide rates. This problem of poor-quality mortality data is not unique to suicide, but given the sensitivity of suicide – and the illegality of suicidal behaviour in some countries – it is likely that under-reporting and misclassification are greater problems for suicide than for most other causes of death.

Improved surveillance and monitoring of suicide and suicide attempts is required for effective suicide prevention strategies. Cross-national differences in the patterns of suicide, and changes in the rates, characteristics and methods of suicide, highlight the need for each country to improve the comprehensiveness, quality and timeliness of their suicide-related data. This includes vital registration of suicide, hospital-based registries of suicide attempts and nationally-representative surveys collecting information about self-reported suicide attempts.

WHO response
WHO recognizes suicide as a public health priority. The first WHO World Suicide Report “Preventing suicide: a global imperative”, published in 2014, aims to increase the awareness of the public health significance of suicide and suicide attempts and to make suicide prevention a high priority on the global public health agenda. It also aims to encourage and support countries to develop or strengthen comprehensive suicide prevention strategies in a multisectoral public health approach.

Suicide is one of the priority conditions in the WHO Mental Health Gap Action Programme (mhGAP) launched in 2008, which provides evidence-based technical guidance to scale up service provision and care in countries for mental, neurological and substance use disorders. In the WHO Mental Health Action Plan 2013–2030, WHO Member States have committed themselves to working towards the global target of reducing the suicide rate in countries by one third by 2030.

In addition, the suicide mortality rate is an indicator of target 3.4 of the Sustainable Development Goals: by 2030, to reduce by one third premature mortality from noncommunicable diseases through prevention and treatment, and promote mental health and well-being.

Mnangagwa Admits COVID-19 Cases Are Rising In Schools

The government has resolved to keep schools open despite a surge in COVID-19 cases in some schools since early this month.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting minister Monica Mutsvangwa said Cabinet noted that the increase in infections was insignificant to warrant schools closure.

In a post-Cabinet Press briefing on Tuesday, Mutsvangwa said:
The meeting, however, noted that out of a total school enrolment of 4,6 million, the number of COVID-19 positive cases detected is insignificant. All cases are being well-managed in line with the standard guidelines for the co-ordinated prevention and management of COVID-19 at all learning institutions in Zimbabwe.

Furthermore, most cases among learners are asymptomatic or have only mild symptoms. Accordingly, Cabinet resolved that schools will remain open. Learners, who are isolated, will be provided with alternative learning
platforms.

A number of schools have been hit by COVID-19 infections, with teachers claiming the government prematurely reopened schools before creating a conducive environment in learning institutions.

Minister Mutsvangwa also said the government had resolved to enhance surveillance and contact tracing at schools and the surrounding communities and to increase on-site COVID-19 testing of all suspected cases.

The government will also restrict movement into and out of the schools affected until the outbreaks have been controlled. She added that there will be vaccination of all eligible populations in schools and also in the surroundings.- NewsDay

“Police reacted to the tip-off and managed to arrest the accused person who admitted that they committed the offence. Dube implicated the other three as his accomplices and two were arrested in their houses,” said Bulawayo provincial spokesperson Inspector Abedinico Ncube.
They all admitted that they robbed and killed the now deceased.
Dube, Mutandwa and Ngwenya entered Mr Peters house using the kitchen entrance and struck him with a golf stick on his head and they dragged him into a corridor where they killed him.

The trio went to Mr Peters bedroom where they opened his fitted wardrobe and stole his money, cellphone and a watch and left him for dead in his corridor.
Mr Peters was found dead by his friend, facing upwards, blood oozing from one side of the head and his legs and hands were tied with a rope.
Neighbours made a report to the police, who took the body to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) mortuary for post-mortem.
Police expressed gratitude to members of the public for providing information that led to the arrest of the accused persons.
“Police would like to thank members of the public for providing us with vital information that led to the arrest of the three accused persons. We are also appealing for anyone with information that can assist on the arrest of the fourth accused person Thembani Ncube to contact any nearest police station,” said Insp Ncube.
It was reported that Mr Peters used to take care of old people in Bellevue suburb by paying their bills and sometimes throwing parties for them during holidays.

Victory For Chamisa As High Court Returns His Six Chopped MPs to Parliament

By A Correspondent- MDC Alliance has retained its six parliamentary seats, which it had lost after Douglas Mwozora had recalled the MPs from parliament.

Chamisa’s MDC Alliance regained the seat Thursday after the High Court reinstated MDC Alliance vice president and former finance minister Tendai Biti and five other former PDP officials as MPs.

US$24 000 Exhibit Money Vanishes From Police Station

By A Correspondent- Police in Chipinge have failed to account for US$23 940 that they seized as an exhibit in a fraud case.

The complainant, Desire Tevera, said he made fruitless efforts to recover his money over the past 15 months prompting him to approach the High Court.

He cited Police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga as a first respondent while Detective Sergeant Madhibha and an officer commanding Chipinge CID were, cited as second and third respondents.

Court papers show that Tevera was arrested last year in Chipinge but the state, however, failed to prosecute him within the 21 days as stipulated by the law.

He was later told that he was no longer a suspect in the case but could not be given back his bag containing the money and his mobile phone which was being kept by the police as exhibits.

He said:
On the 5th of April 2020, police officers in Chipinge from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) seized and took possession of my money being US$23 940. The police alleged verbally to me that my money was in connection with a fraud case.
I had anticipated that I was going to be summoned to court or I was going to be advised of trial date. I made several attempts to get clearer details and it came as a surprise when police officers advised me that I was now required to appear as a witness in a case of fraud.

He said that he realised that he had been turned from being an accused person into a witness which means the police had no case against him.
The matter is yet to be heard.

Kaitano Tembo Apologises For Altercation With Benni McCarthy

SuperSport United coach Kaitano Tembo has apologised for the heated exchange of words he had with his AmaZulu counterpart Benni McCarthy during a DStv Premiership clash between the two sides last week.

The two coaches were in a heated exchange in the dugout, with McCarthy caught on camera yelling at Tembo.

The Zimbabwean has broken silence on the issue and apologised.

“Us as coaches we have an obligation to lead by example. I think on my part its one area where I’d like to apologise for whatever happened there,” he said on SAFM’s Sport On.

“I think the other party has been the one little bit talking more than me, but at the same time when we want to lead by example we need to show a little bit of class in terms of how we handle ourself.

“So on behalf of myself and the club, I’d like to apologise of whatever happened there. Because it’s very key for us as coaches. I don’t think as coaches we should be caught in a situation whereby we exchange in words like that.

“But I think we should be putting those behind us and make sure it doesn’t happen again. Make sure we do well for the image of South African football,” added Tembo. – Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Chipinge Women Resort to Stokvel, Societies To Beat COVID-19 Hardships

By Cheriel Dzobo| As the Covid 19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns hit hard on Zimbabwe and the rest of the world, women in Chipinge have turned to stokvel and societies to escape from poverty and hunger.

Results of a survey conducted in Machona village, Chisumbanje ward 26 of Chipinge South, lockdowns have seriously affected women enterprises due to low economic activity.

In an interview a number of women including single mothers and widows, life has become harder as a result of COVID-19 induced lockdowns.

The situation was worsened by arbitrary displacements of villagers from their communal lands at the instigation of Green Fuel, a giant ethanol production company operating in Chisumbanje.

Ruramai a mother of three lamented that her situation was worsened when she lost her spouse.

“Ma lockdowns aya andirwadza hupenyu hwakaoma , nekuda kweCovid kufamba ndichitengesa hakuchaite zvachose dei ndiine munda ndaiita zvekurima zvangu but azvichakwanisike takatorerwa munda ngeve Green Fuel ava, raramo nevana yakurwadza kunyanya ndirindega kudai seshirikadzi, ” she lamented

A group of 12 women in Chisumbanje have since created #SHANDAUGUTE# a Stokvel project they use to generate money to use to jumpstart each other in their businesses.

“ I am a widow and when my husband passed on my children were so young yet when my husband was alive we were farmers and we survived from it, Green Fuel took my 16 hectares and I was so depressed, so I started selling but that was affected by COVID 19 restrictions,.

We then thought of ways of empowering each other, so we formed Stokvel groups which helped us to buy what we lacked,” said Vengai Mazowe from Chisumbanje.

”#SHANDAUGUTE yakandisimudzira semunhukadzi ndaiva ndisina kana mudziyo wemumba zvawo zvakare ndakadzidzawo kuchengetedza zvinhu,” said another Stokvel member Edna Ndlovu.

Tendiwe Peni from Machona village in Chisumbanje said they were trained and empowered by a local community based organisation Platform for Youth and Community Development Trust on how to run Stokvel groups, something she said has been a game changer in her struggles to make ends meet.

Suicide And Mental Disorders

LIVE LIFE, WHO’s approach to suicide prevention, recommends the following key effective evidence-based interventions:

limit access to the means of suicide (e.g. pesticides, firearms, certain medications);
interact with the media for responsible reporting of suicide;
foster socio-emotional life skills in adolescents;
early identify, assess, manage and follow up anyone who is affected by suicidal behaviours.,
These need to go hand-in-hand with the following foundational pillars: situation analysis, multisectoral collaboration, awareness raising, capacity building, financing, surveillance and monitoring and evaluation.

I Will Remain Loyal To My Husband -Gumbura Widow “Shames” Masvingo Prophet

Kwekweza, Zimudzi Freed Over Protest Agaist Tinkering With The Constitution

HARARE Magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti-Guwuriro has set free two pro-democracy campaigners who had been on trial on charges of promoting public violence after they were arrested for allegedly protesting against the holding of public hearings for some proposed constitutional amendments.

Namatai Kwekweza and Esther Vongai Zimudzi were arrested by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers on Friday 19 June 2020 and charged with participating in a gathering with intent to promote public violence, breaches of peace, or bigotry as defined in section 37(1)(b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

Kwekweza and Zimudzi, who were represented by Rudo Bere and Tinashe Chinopfukutwa of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, were accused of gathering at New Government Complex in Harare, where they intended to hand over a petition to Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Hon. Ziyambi Ziyambi in which they were protesting against the holding of some public hearings into proposed amendments to the Constitution.

Prosecutors claimed that Kwekweza, who is a member of WeLead Organisation for Young People and Zimudzi, who is a member of Section 20 Organisation, displayed placards which read; “A senseless charade in the name of the Constitution Amendment No. 2 Bill public hearing, Minister you are out of order”; “!!!#Ngazvitangidzwe!!!”; “3.3 million Zimbabweans were consulted about the Constitution in 2013, 94.4% voted yes”; “Don’t amend the Constitution until you consult 3.3 million Zimbabweans”; “#Stop cosmetic Constitutions” and “Don’t take advantage of COVID-19”.

The prosecutors charged that Kwekweza and Zimudzi’s actions were abusive, insulting and intended to provoke the breach of peace.

However, Magistrate Muchuchutu-Guwuriro on Friday 17 September 2021 set free Kwekweza and Zimudzi after their lawyers applied for discharge at the close of the State case.

Magistrate Muchuchuti-Guwuriro ruled that the State failed to prove a prima facie case against the duo and also stated that the placards which they allegedly held during the protest were not produced in court to show that a crime was committed.

Mutare Mayor Shock Delegates With ED Praise

While the MDC Alliance is blaming Zanu-PF for using Local government minister July Moyo to interfere into the operations of the councils under its ambit, MDC-T mayor for Mutare Blessing Tandi, last week, surprised delegates when extolled President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s virtues, crediting him for working hard to restore the confidence in the economy.

Tandi crossed floor to Mwonzora led MDC-T after he was threatened with a recall in March last year by MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora.

He was later saved by Local government minister July Moyo after he apologised for being associated with MDC Alliance members, according to MDC sources.

While addressing delegates who attended the inaugural State of THE City Address at Mutare Hall on Tuesday, Tandi said his administration appreciates role being played by President Mnangagwa with his cabinet to restore confidence in the economy.

“At the national level, we would like to appreciate the role played by our President H.E Emmerson Mnangagwa, and his team of men and women who are working to restore confidence in the economy,” said Tandi.

The mayor went further to applause the Second Republic for the ongoing disbursement of the devolution funds, saying they have helped the cash strapped local authority to roll out several developmental projects that are improving service delivery in the city.

“We want to appreciate the extended olive branch which came in the form of devolution grants that have assisted us to roll our developmental projects. We received some funds for the renovation of Mutare Infectious Hospital courtesy of devolution funds and work has not been completed,” said Tandi.

He said the local authority has since aligned its operation in line with government`s stance of promoting the ease of doing business in order to attract more investment into the eastern border city.

“In line with the Second Republic mantra, Zimbabwe is Open for Business, the city of Mutare is Open for Business, the City of Mutare started to adopt the ease of doing business reforms in 2018.Major achievements include the reduced timeframe in approval of licences,”said Tandi.
