Professor Ncube Sparks Controversy As Intra-Party Turmoil Grips CCC

By A Correspondent| The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), Zimbabwe’s prominent opposition party, is currently embroiled in internal strife following a controversial tweet by Professor Welshman Ncube, a former Vice President of the Movement for Democratic Change Alliance (MDCA) and key figure within the party.

Yesterday, Professor Ncube responded to a question on whether he is in the leadership of CCC with an answer that has sparked controversy within the movement.

“As of 22 Jan 2022, I was VP of MDCA, which on that date by resolution of its National Council resolved to reconstitute itself as CCC and participate in the March 2022 by-elections under that name. At that meeting, the National Council didn’t resolve to dissolve itself.”

This tweet has ignited a firestorm of confusion and accusations within the party, with some members alleging that Professor Ncube is bitter about the restructuring and is allegedly behind Sengezo Tshabangu’s mission to recall legislators and councillors elected on a CCC ticket.

Tshabangu’s actions have reportedly played into the hands of the ruling party, Zanu PF.

The internal conflict centers on the interpretation of the National Council’s resolutions and the direction the party should take in light of the upcoming by-elections.

While some party members argue that the National Council’s decision did not include a dissolution clause, others believe that a restructuring of this magnitude inherently implies a dissolution of the MDCA.

Sengezo Tshabangu, who has been actively involved in recalling legislators and councillors, has become a divisive figure within the CCC, with some accusing him of being a Zanu PF puppet.

The confusion surrounding the party’s internal dynamics has led to concerns among supporters and stakeholders about the unity and effectiveness of the CCC as they seek to remain a force post the Tshabangu skirmishes.

I Know The Pain, Mliswa Speaks On Ngarivhume Release After 8 Months In Jail

By A Correspondent| In a series of tweets, former Norton legislator Temba Mliswa expressed his concerns over the recent release of Jacob Ngarivhume, who spent six months in detention.

Mliswa described Ngarivhume’s release as the latest example of what he perceives as “unbelievable levels of persecution” in the country.

Mliswa, drawing on his own experiences, revealed that he had been arrested over 70 times.

He empathized with the pain that such ordeals bring, acknowledging that, over time, individuals can become desensitized to the point where they “don’t care what happens next,” leaving their fate in the hands of a higher power. He emphasized the need for individuals to possess a strong character to withstand such pressures, acknowledging that not everyone may be as resilient.

The former legislator appealed for professionalism among law enforcement officers and authorities, urging them not to become pawns in what he described as “painful political games.” Mliswa warned that the consequences of such actions can linger even after retirement, emphasizing the long-lasting impact on individuals’ lives.

Turning his attention to Jacob Ngarivhume, Mliswa expressed deep respect, hailing him and Job Sikhala as “true warriors” in the face of adversity. He commended their commitment to standing up for their beliefs and labeled them as true leaders who prioritize the well-being of the country over political affiliations.

Mliswa concluded his series of tweets by emphasizing the importance of prioritizing the interests of the nation over political allegiances. He welcomed Jacob Ngarivhume back, acknowledging his resilience and commitment to the greater good.

“God is pleased with ED win”: Wutaunashe

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe Indigenous International Council of Churches (ZIICC) Chairman Andrew Wutaunashe has said God is pleased President Emmerson Mnangagwa won August’s elections.

Wutaunashe, who founded and leads the Family of God (FOG) church, was speaking at Wednesday’s National Day of Prayer held at State House in Harare.

He is one of a number, especially apostolic sect leaders who openly aligned and allied with Zanu PF ahead of the contested General Elections which he said in his speech were free and fair.

“The church is thankful that God gave us free, fair, and transparent elections and we thank God that the work he started through you and the Second Republic can now continue,” said Wutaunashe.

“It has pleased God that you continue leading the nation. We continue to pray for you that you are given health and life and you are guided as you lead the nation.”

Zimbabwe’s elections were marred by anomalies that included delays in availing voting material in perceived opposition strongholds, voter intimidation, unfair access to publicly owned media, and bans on over a hundred Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) rallies in the run-up.

Election Observer Missions (EOMs), including the SADC, European Union, and The Commonwealth condemned how the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) managed the poll.

Mnangagwa showered praises on the church in a speech inundated with Bible verses and calls for an end to targeted restrictions which he said were affecting development.

“We must continue defining and controlling our destiny. This is despite the clandestine machinations of those who have sought to hinder our progress and development, including the illegal sanctions designed to cripple our economy,” said Mnangagwa.

“I commend the resilience and hard work of our people, the private sector and other stakeholders. Our nation is a testimony that in every circumstance when facing plenty or lack, abundance or need, we can do all things through Jesus Christ who gives us strength, Philippians 4 vs 12-13.

“Both our rural and urban communities must be urged to work harder in their respective areas for increased production and productivity. According to Psalms 90 vs 17, the Lord our God will establish the work of our hands.”

Gvt drags feet on devolution

Government is still working on legislation and policy guidelines on devolution years after its introduction to ensure transfer of powers and responsibilities from central government to provincial and metropolitan councils and local authorities.

Local Government and Public Works minister Winston Chitando revealed this when he made his virtual presentation during a devolution workshop held in Bulawayo yesterday.

He said government decided to introduce devolution as espoused in the Constitution, adding that authorities had underscored the need for the country to fully embrace it to facilitate rapid economic growth.

“Currently, we are in the process of implementing devolution as prescribed by the Constitution. Devolution will see the transfer of powers and responsibilities from the central government to provincial councils, metropolitan councils and local authorities,” he said.

“The powers and responsibilities to be devolved include powers to formulate budgets and implementing them effectively and on time in order to produce the requisite services.

“All the decision-making powers pertaining to the planning and implementation of provincial development projects and programmes will be vested in councils themselves.”

Chitando said communities would have participatory democracy, deriving benefits from the exploitation of resources in their areas.

“The constitutional provisions on devolution are yet to be fully implemented, subsidiary legislation and policy guidelines are still being crafted. In the same vein, citizens have high expectations on the prospects of devolution to improve transparency and accountability,” Chitando said.

He said devolution had been implemented since 2019, adding that government was committed on supporting areas such as water, sanitation and hygiene and the construction or rehabilitation of roads, schools and clinics, among other projects.

“It should be noted that this has created thousands of jobs for the youths and the government has so far injected billions of dollars into these programmes and projects to date.

“These infrastructure projects being implemented have tremendously improved the living standards of the majority of the people who mainly reside in the rural areas.

“During the year, the Thematic Working Group engaged development partners, namely, the United Nations Development Programme for technical and financial support,” Chitando further noted.

However, Speaker of National Assembly during the Government of National Unity Lovemore Moyo said the delay in implementing devolution was not a coincidence, but deliberate act by the ruling Zanu PF regime.

“It’s abundantly clear that the Zanu PF regime does not fully subscribe to a nationally devolved system of governance as espoused in the Constitution,” he stated. “In fact, it prefers a centralised system of governance, which allows monopoly and looting of State resources.

“Consequently, the government’s legislative agenda excludes the enactment of an Act of Parliament that will fully operationalise devolution.”

He said government preferred to continue manipulating devolution processes.

“Accordingly, people are extremely disappointed that the government continues to pay lip service to the implementation of devolution, and there’s no comprehensive framework in place since the adoption of the new Constitution in the year 2013,” he said.

FULL TEXT- Presidential spokesperson threatens Pashor Sibanda

SITUATING PASHOR SIBANDA: PASHOR is not important as a person; if anything, he is a mere deviant boy who is yet to secure any form of employment in his life.

PASHOR is important as an incarnation of Triple C’s desperate rethink, buttressed by resolutions of what is termed the Southern AfricaHuman Rights Defenders’ Network which held its “summit” in Namibia from 22 to 24 November, 2023.

At that meeting – which the State covered – there was a decision to change tact towards more confrontational politics, with Triple C getting direct funding, as happened to MDC during Tsvangirai days, and to Hichilema’s UPND before the Lungu defeat.

More important, a decision was taken to found a more youthful and militant leadership for the opposition, with four names suggested as foremost. I shall have occasion to reveal them. A follow-up meeting was scheduled for 5th December, in Lusaka, Zambia.

Again, I will apprise at an appropriate time. Essentially this Western outfit is a Third Force in the making, which is why Chamisa is very worried.

It threatens to supersede him, forcing him to go suicidal through dull brawn actors like Pashor and Mkwananzi.

Of course these boys of brawn will soon learn – like the proverbial burnt child – to dread fire!!!! Ndapedza; vanzwa vatonzwa!!!!!!

“To pull out or not” CCC turns to citizens

By A Correspondent- The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) yesterday said it was consulting its supporters on the way forward as it mulls pulling out of Parliament in protest over the “sham” December 9 by-elections.

CCC candidates belonging to the main faction led by Nelson Chamisa were barred from contesting in the by-elections which were prompted by the party’s self-proclaimed interim secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu after he recalled more than a dozen CCC Members of Parliament elected in the August 23 and 24 harmonised elections.

Zanu PF bagged seven out of nine contested seats which were previously under the CCC.

CCC spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi told journalists yesterday that the party’s highest decision-making body, the citizens national assembly, had resolved to consult its supporters on the way forward.

The assembly resolved not to recognise the unlawful conduct and outcome of the December 9 by-elections and directed the appropriate bureaus to seek the setting aside of the charade,” Mkwananzi said.

“The assembly resolved to further consult the citizens on the party’s continued participation in Parliament and local authority. There are processes that are going to be unveiled to complement the parliamentary processes.

“Importantly, we are going to see a lot of activities in constituencies that were denied the opportunity to vote for the candidates of their choice.”

He added: “There are going to be activities taking place there,  with voters demanding the right to vote and demanding their MPs back and demanding that if there is a by-election, people have a right to be voted for.”

CCC lawyer and Hatcliffe legislator Agency Gumbo said the party would also not abandon court processes despite expressing concerns over the Judiciary’s handling of its cases.

“The position that we have taken as a party is that we shall not abandon the legal processes in the quest to resolve the ongoing issues around capture of the people’s will and restoring the democratic tendency in this country,” Gumbo said.

“We believe in the courts as the institutions of the Constitution. We believe in constitutionalism and we have the right to make comments where we believe there is an overarching effect of the Executive in the Judiciary.”

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission yesterday gazetted the legislators who won in the December 9 by-elections.

Another set of by-elections is scheduled for February 3.

Murder suspect acquitted

By A Correspondent- A murder suspect Tafadzwa Mudavanhu has been acquitted by the High Court in a case he was accused of killing a passenger.

Mudavanhu landed in the dock on allegations of killing one Spinora Kamungeremu in Budiriro three years ago.

High Court judge, Justice Rodgers Manyangadze cleared Mudavanhu at the close of State’s ruling that the case against him was too weak for a reasonable court to convict him.

It was alleged that on 19 October, 2020, he struck Kamungeremu dead with a brick at a shopping centre in the Budiriro suburb of Harare.

Prosecutors were alleging that on the day in question, Kamungeremu was at Current Shopping Centre, Budiriro 5 B.

He was in the company of his two friends, Elia Svova and Jephart Chizura.

They were in Chizura’s motor vehicle which was parked at the shopping centre.

Kamungeremu left the vehicle for a nearby supermarket.

Whilst he was away, a lorry driven by one Darlington Bvindi rammed into Chizura’s vehicle.

Chizura confronted Bvindi, who appeared to have been drinking.

An argument erupted between the two, over the latter’s alleged drunk driving.

Kamungeremu then returned to the car.

Bvindi attempted to flee before the deceased tried to block him.

Mudavanhu was accused of having picked up a brick and struck the deceased once on the head.

The deceased lost consciousness and was ferried to Parirenyatwa Hospital, where he died on 3 November 2020.

To substantiate these allegations, evidence was led from Elia Svova, Jephart Chizura, Addmore Musiza, Decent Shuche and Bernard Kaiche.

Musiza and Kaiche were police officers.

Svova said after the altercation a mob responded.

He said Mudavanhu was in front of this mob and was the one who attacked his friend.

Chizura said the name given as that of the assailant was Chamunorwa Bvumba.

He is said to have hit the deceased with a beer bottle on the head.

The officers also said it was Bvumba who assaulted the deceased.

The judge however ruled there were serious and unresolved contradictions in the key witnesses’ statements.

“This left the investigation officer, and even the OIC, in grave doubt as to whether it was the accused or Bvumba who assaulted the deceased.

“What this means is that they submitted a docket for prosecution which they did not have confidence in.

“The prosecution had no easy task adducing evidence from the various witnesses it called.

“They simply could not explain the shift from Chamunorwa to the accused as the suspect in this matter.

“The evidence became so manifestly unreliable that the only reason for putting the accused to his defence is to get him convicted through self- incrimination,”said the judge.

“This case had an unusual number of police witnesses.

“Of the five witnesses who took the witness stand, three were police officers involved in the investigation of the case in one way or the other.

“As already indicated, all the officers were puzzled as to why their supposedly key witnesses, being the two civilian witnesses, ended up saying it was the accused who assaulted the deceased with a brick, when initially they had said it was Chamunorwa who assaulted the deceased with a beer bottle on the head.”

Chamunorwa’s whereabouts, up to the time of the trial, remained unknown.

The judge also noted that Bvindi was never placed under arrest as he managed to escape soon after the offence.

Sikhala challenges state over witnesses

By A Correspondent- Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislator Job Sikhala says he was never in Nyatsime, Chitungwiza, on the day violence broke out at the funeral of slain opposition party activist, Moreblessing Ali.

Sikhala, who has been in remand prison since June 2022, is being charged with inciting public violence to avenge Ali‘s murder.

He is being jointly charged with former CCC legislator Godfrey Sithole. They both appeared before Harare magistrate Tafadzwa Mhiti for trial continuation yesterday.

Sikhala and Sithole are being represented by Harrison Nkomo, Jeremiah Bhamu  and Oliver Marwa.

Sikhala challenged the State to bring witnesses who saw him driving to Nyatsime area on the day in question.

He denied instructing any member of the public to cause violence.

Sikhala said he had no idea of the identity of the owners of the vehicles which are alleged to have ferried people to Nyatsime to commit violence.

The court heard that State witnesses  are failing to prove how Sikhala was linked to alleged videos in which he is said to have incited public violence.

Sikhala questioned why the State was failing to produce the WhatsApp number which posted the videos in question.

He said State witnesses were giving different versions on the length of the videos.

The duo is being accused of inciting public violence by posting videos encouraging party supporters to avenge Ali’s death.

According to the State, they hired lorries to ferry people to Nyatsime to commit violence.

Ali’s dismembered body was found stashed in a disused well at a plot owned by the mother of her murderer, Pius Mukandi alias Jamba who was recently convicted at the High Court.

The matter was postponed to December 19 for trial continuation.

Mzembi, Kasukuwere Criticize China’s Weapon Donation to Zimbabwe

By A Correspondent| Former Foreign Affairs Minister Walter Mzembi and disqualified 2023 presidential candidate Savior Kasukuwere have both taken to social media to voice their shared concerns over China’s recent donation of weapons to Zimbabwe.

Mzembi took to X to convey his disapproval of China’s decision to supply weapons to Zimbabwe.

He drew a vivid analogy, stating, “A friend who arms you with spears and knobkerries when your house is in conflict is a very bad friend. Any loss of life, injury to your children & family, he will be held responsible!”

Mzembi further emphasized the irony of accepting weapons from a friend while simultaneously taking away the family silverware.

He suggested that this act contradicts the expectation of friendship and support, especially when the children are hopeful for intervention and reconciliation from the influential friend.

“The irony is you are taking the family silverware from the same, and you bring to the same father weapons, where the children are actually expecting you as a friend to the father who bears the greatest influence to intervene and reconcile them with their dad,” Mzembi tweeted.

Responding to Mzembi, disqualified 2023 presidential candidate Savior Kasukuwere expressed skepticism about the appropriateness of the weapon donation in the context of internal conflicts, stating, “You mean they have received new knobkerries for disciplinary process in the feuding Dzimbadzamabwe! No flowers ? but bullets and tankers.”

Kasukuwere emphasized the need for support in crucial development areas rather than the provision of weapons.

“We need support for irrigation development, technology transfer, health delivery support and not lithium for slings and bullets,” he remarked, underscoring the importance of focusing on sustainable development, technology advancement, and healthcare.

“Local banks fleecing depositors”

By A Correspondent- Local banks are reportedly fleecing depositors through high bank fees and exorbitant withdrawal fees of about 3% of the amount being withdrawn from 1% charged a few months ago.

Depositors are also being charged about 2.5% for withdrawals done on Automated Teller Machines.

The government is concerned that this would discourage people from making bank deposits and has warned financial institutions against the practice.

quoted the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, George Guvamatanga, as saying:

Banks please, your charges [are exorbitant]. Someone commented that we no longer have banks in this country but we now have real estate companies masquerading as banks

Banks are collecting rent from customers every month.

[Banks now say], you have an account where you pay me a rental of U$25 every month and or US$20 every month.

When you withdraw US$100 000 for example, there is a 2% -3% commission, and other charges, you walk away from the bank with US$97 000 so the question is are we encouraging depositors to bank their money?

There is always an argument that there are different accounts, there is a deposit account, and savings account but look at ways of encouraging the depositors to have their money in those accounts which do not attract this US$25 or US$15.

Guvamatanga demanded that banks slash their charges and desist from “robbing” depositors. He said:

I think the other place where there is almost robbery is with your own Visa and Master cards, those foreign cards.

You deposit your money and you attract a commission for depositing your cash.

I pledge with you to sit down within the remaining two weeks of this year and when you come back in January 2024, whilst still in office so that when you come back your charges should encourage people to put their money into the bank.

Banks are the biggest problem as far as confidence is concerned because they are all focusing on this non-funded income instead of the core business that you lend and you get interest.

I was looking at the financial results [banks], and most are now at 60%/70% non-funded income.

I know they (banks) have restructured their businesses with a 70% non-funded income that’s not achievable anywhere in the world.

It shows that the cost of banking in this country is just too high. It’s something we have not spoken about. I hope banks will look at it and make adjustments.

De-Mob Season is Over, CCC Threatens?

Hatcliffe legislator Agency Gumbo Issues Stark Warning

By A Correspondent| In a decisive and resolute tweet shared on X, Hatcliffe legislator and legal counsel to the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), Agency Gumbo, declared an end to what he termed the “De-Mob Season.”

This proclamation came in the wake of a CCC National Consultative meeting convened to strategize on the way forward in response to the tumultuous political developments affecting the Nelson Chamisa-led faction due to recalls.

“Political parties are established to gain political power, not relinquish it! Our pursuit of legitimacy and democracy in this nation is intensifying, and this struggle extends beyond the confines of Parliament or Council. It is deeply rooted within the masses. The De-Mob season is officially over!” Gumbo’s tweet emphatically declared.

The CCC now faces extensive deliberations on the most prudent course of action in the face of ongoing challenges orchestrated by Tshabangu, who, with the support of the judiciary, continues to disrupt Chamisa’s party.

While some advocate for the CCC’s withdrawal from parliament and local authorities as a protest against state interference, an equal number argue against such a move, emphasizing the importance of persisting to represent the electorate who chose the movement.

The internal debate underscores the complexity of the decisions ahead for the CCC in navigating the political landscape.

Moyo’s Shallow & Desperate Political Stunt On The Tshabangu Zimdaily Cartoon Will Fool No One!

By Brighton Mutebuka

  1. There can be nothing more incendiary than an undeserving individual who seeks to exploit & profit from an incident where agency only exists by reason of being contrived.
  2. You are clearly pulling Tshabangu’s strings in the background & working to unashamedly advance the current incumbent’s political agenda.
  3. It is a matter of public record that the party that you currently support and its leader stand accused of having committed egregious human rights violations against the same region during Gukurahundi & carrying out decades long policies which marginalise, offend, humiliate and discriminate against the region, amongst other things, to such an extent that some accuse it of treating them as second class citizens.
  4. Is there any more contempt that can be displayed against a people than joining hands with a much despised incumbent to criminally reverse their electoral & democratic choices via the representatives that they elected in Parliament to replace them with the regime’s to facilitate an extended stay in power?
  5. @ZimDaily
is a corporate body & separate legal personality with the capacity to sue and be sued in its own name. It has rightly taken responsibility for its oversight committed in a febrile political environment.
    @CCCZimbabwe
‘s agency has not been established in your rant.
  6. The idea that the threshold for establishing agency in this context can simply be met on the basis of an editorial policy which is favourable to a political organisation or any other entity is desperately shallow, misinformed, mischievous and preposterous.
  7. You should be appreciative of the fact that
    @ZimDaily
has apologised. When was the last time you demanded an apology from ED? Have you apologised for your long & destructive association with ZANU PF?
  8. Do you take responsibility, via your role in Tshabangu’s revolting saga – for causing rancour, division & disaffection across the national divide?
  9. Is it not you & Tshabangu who have sought to whip the Matabeleland region into a frenzy on account of false charges of fighting in its corner when you are pursuing narrow & selfish personal interests on behalf of the current regime?
  10. I am putting it to you that you are exploiting genuine grievances from the region, gas lighting them & using them as a Trojan Horse (while hoodwinking any gullible folks from the region who are prone to be emotive due to the sensitivity of the subject) to try & destroy
    @CCCZimbabwe
    for the regime’s benefit.
  11. Those who are truly concerned about national healing, unity and integration will see through this desperate and shallow political stunt for what it is – which is to drive a wedge between
    @CCCZimbabwe
and its Matabeleland base on the premise that it endorses the undertones portrayed by the cartoon / caricature.
  12. You and Tshabangu are playing a dangerous political game. You are playing with people’s emotions and your antics are clearly provocative and their effects will be far reaching – straddling many generations.
  13. Under your political stewardship, Tshabangu falsely claimed to be seeking to address long simmering regional grievances & to ringfence his shenanigans to that region only but what did he do? Using what mandate?
  14. So the cartoon should rightly be condemned but alongside you & Tshabangu for the roles that you have played in creating conditions which have provoked many peace loving Zimbabweans. Their ire should only be directed against you & Tshabangu, not the whole region! You clearly thrive on Schadenfreude. History has got a long memory. You will be held to account for your actions when the time comes! We will see if this sycophancy will be adequate to earn safe passage to Vene’s Kingdom!

Pastor Kasi: I Didn’t Pay Bribes To Get Law Practice Certificate

Pastor Admire Kasi and Ivy Kombo Deny Bribery Allegations in Law Practice Certificates Scandal.

Admire Kasi, and wife, Ivy

Agencies- Gospel musician Ivy Kombo and her husband, Pastor Admire Kasi, who are currently facing fraud allegations related to the purported illegal acquisition of law practice certificates through a $1,100 bribe, have vehemently distanced themselves from the accusations. The couple insists that they followed proper procedures and did not engage in any bribery.

Yesterday, during the ongoing trial, Kasi, represented by lawyer Mr Everson Chatambudza, cross-examined a key witness, Shorai Mupunga, a former employee at the Council for Legal Education (CLE). Kasi produced documentation demonstrating his legitimate acquisition of the certificate, stating that he applied in 2019 and received a letter from the council’s chairperson, Justice Slyvia Chirau, in 2022, granting him exemption from eight conversion examinations. He made the necessary payment on October 31, 2022, leading to the issuance of his conversion certificate.

Chatambudza argued that this process followed the proper legal channels, leading to a legitimate certification.

Mupunga, the witness, concurred with the defense’s position, acknowledging the apparent legitimacy of Kasi’s application process. She, however, maintained her earlier claim that she facilitated the issuance of certificates through monetary transactions involving Huggins Duri, the suspended executive secretary of CLE.

In her testimony, Kombo stated that she received her conversion certificate from CLE, signed by Justice Chirau, and had no reason to suspect any fraudulent activity as she underwent all required procedures. Her lawyer, Mr Admire Rubaya, emphasized that Kombo obtained her certificate from a reputable institution, arguing against her involvement in any investigative role.

The allegations suggest that the couple approached Mupunga, a CLE official, for assistance in registration and examination procedures. Mupunga allegedly liaised with Duri, offering to expedite the issuance of conversion certificates for a fee of $1,100. The couple purportedly paid this amount through Mupunga, leading to the processing of certificates indicating they had passed eight conversion subjects.

The trial is set to resume on Monday, with further cross-examination of the witness by Duri’s lawyer, Mr Oliver Marwa, who has taken over representation after other lawyers renounced agency.

Top Pastor Slams CCC For Remaining Inside ED’s Tshabangurized Parliament | ONE PARTY STATE

When respected lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa risked her life marching against the political imposter Sengezo Tshabangu she didn’t know that the CCC would ‘upset her wishes’ one day.

By Dorrothy Moyo | A leading pastor has criticized Nelson Chamisa’s CCC party, asserting that their recently announced resolutions sound as if they are aligning with Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ZANU PF party. Reverend Kenneth Mtata contends that the resolutions from the CCC’s Citizens’ National Assembly resemble those indicative of a one-party state.

Mtata’s comments come at a time when voters expected CCC MPs to withdraw from parliament as a gesture of disgust over the Tshabangu recalls, potentially undermining Emmerson Mnangagwa. Contrary to expectations, the CNA has resolved to take the opposite stance.

In a post titled “OPPOSITION KILLING MULTIPARTY DEMOCRACY?,” Rev Mtata expressed his concerns, stating:

  1. “I believe in MULTIPARTY democracy everywhere and in my own country.”
  2. “I recognize the challenging conditions under which opposition parties operate.”
  3. “However, this level of incompetence by CCC is an affront to MULTIPARTY democracy. These are not resolutions. What is going on here?”

It’s Another Bleak Christmas For Zimbabweans

Mr Mnangagwa How Can You Wish Zimbabweans A Restful Christmas When Country Is In A Mess?

REMARKS BY THE PRESIDENT, HIS EXCELLENCY, CDE. E. D. MNANGAGWA, AT THE FINAL CABINET MEETING OF 2023: STATE HOUSE

12TH DECEMBER, 2023

Honourable Vice Presidents, General (Rtd.) Dr. C.G.D.N. Chiwenga and Colonel (Rtd.) Cde K. C. D. Mohadi;

Honourable Ministers and the Attorney-General;

Chief Secretary, Dr. Martin Rushwaya

Distinguished Members of Cabinet, today’s Meeting is the last for this calendar year. You will recall that following our Party, ZANU PFs resounding victory in the 2023 Harmonised General Elections held in August, we were able to seamlessly continue with the business of Government.

This is testimony that our country continues to entrench constitutionalism, deepen democratic practices and improve bureaucratic efficiencies as we march forward towards Vision 2030 guided by our development philosophy, “Nyika inovakwa, inotongwa, inonamatigwa nevene vayo. Ilizwe lakhiwa, libuswe, likhulekelwe ngabanikazi balo”.

While much work lies ahead; we must continuously do more in our quest to modernize, industrialize and grow our economy while improving the quality of life for our people.

The growth of the economy notwithstanding, all Ministries must work harder for the achievement of impactful results in our various programmes and projects.

As such, Cabinet must now accelerate the implementation of National Development Strategy 1 so that our National Vision 2030 of “an empowered and prosperous upper-middle income society”, is attained much earlier. Your work is therefore, cut out for you.

Hence, Cabinet recess does not mean that we close our offices completely, Government business must not be disrupted and your availability to attend to issues, remain integral.

Meanwhile, I want to assure the nation that Government is closely monitoring the weather, with signs increasingly confirming the El-Nino prediction of a normal to below-normal rainfall season. Government is putting in place the necessary measures to mitigate the adverse effects of the undesirable weather phenomenon.

I, also wish to point out that the overriding principle of the Cabinet system is collective responsibility, which ties in well with the Whole-of-Government, Whole-of-Society Approach and our endeavor to leave no one and no place behind. To this end, we convened the Government High-Level Retreat on 14 September 2023 and thereafter, Induction Sessions for Ministers and Permanent Secretaries, were done.

These platforms have adequately unpacked the key tenets of collective responsibility, mandates and roles as well as my expectations thereto, towards ensuring that Government work is properly coordinated.

Recently, you also shared experiences with colleagues from the United Arab Emirates, as part of strengthening our administrative apparatus.

Bench-marking against best practices, we should therefore strive to be robust, agile, responsive and anticipatory in meeting the needs of the people as well as in responding to attendant challenges.

In terms of the specific Cabinet programmes, I am reasonably satisfied that we were able to go through most items set for this session. We should be able to conclude outstanding matters as soon as we resume.

Meanwhile, it is heartening to note that we completed all the Mid-Term Reports on the Third 100-Day Cycle Priority Projects, despite the changes in the nomenclature of various ministerial portfolios. This shows the continuity inherent in Government programming under the Second Republic.

I, however, call upon members to seriously look into matters which they wish to table during the forthcoming session. These should be aligned to the overall thrust I have outlined above.
Further, this exercise is crucial as it ensures that Cabinet discussions are more focused.

The Chief Secretary will soon issue the relevant Circular calling for items you may wish to put on next years Cabinet programme.

In 2023, it was displeasing that some items were not discussed due to non-submission of the relevant Cabinet Memoranda, this was, in spite of having been proposed for consideration by Ministers. Such oversights or dereliction of duty should not be repeated in the coming year.

Another critical area of concern is the increasing tendency by some Ministers to table substantive matters under “Any Other Business”. This practice must stop. Equally, the late submission of Cabinet Memoranda is retrogressive to constructive debate and to good administration, transparency, collective responsibility and accountability. Please adequately liaise with the Chief Secretary on such matters and be guided accordingly.

Be advised that, going forward, you are called upon to regularly undertake critical and succinct self-evaluation of programmes and projects under your portfolios, to inform focused and coordinated programming.

Ladies and Gentlemen;
The expectations on us to deliver are high after the new mandate to govern bestowed on us by the electorate in the August 2023 Harmonized General Elections. We must not be found wanting in this regard.

I also wish to thank the Chief Secretary and the Cabinet Secretariat for coordinating Cabinet exceptionally well, and urge them to continue consistently providing high-quality service.

With these remarks, I wish you all a restful and rejuvenating recess and a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous 2024.

God bless you all.
God Bless Zimbabwe.
I thank you.

Mnangagwa Blames Zimbabwe’s Struggles On God’s Will

Emmerson Mnangagwa has declared that Zimbabwe’s current state is a testament to the divine will of God. Speaking at the National Day of Prayer at State House, the President asserted that the nation’s trials, including Western sanctions, were part of God’s plan.

Despite facing economic hardships and international sanctions, Mnangagwa expressed confidence in the nation’s ability to overcome challenges, citing Philippians 4 Verse 12-13. He urged the people to define and control their destiny, standing strong against those hindering progress.

The irony of blaming God for the country’s dilapidated state while simultaneously emphasizing resilience against external factors did not go unnoticed. The President’s statements sparked mixed reactions, with some praising the emphasis on faith and others questioning the responsibility placed on divine intervention.

The National Day of Prayer, marked by heavy rains, took an unexpected turn as the President’s words added a layer of complexity to the event. Religious leaders and government officials joined hands in prayer, creating a scene of unity amidst the controversial remarks.

In a separate development, Zimbabwe received military support from China, valued at US$28 million. The aid aims to modernize the Zimbabwe Defence Forces and enhance the nation’s capabilities, particularly in addressing emerging global threats of terrorism.

The donation was accompanied by President Mnangagwa expressing gratitude to China for its consistent friendship. The military aid is seen as a continuation of the strong relations between the two countries, emphasizing mutual support and cooperation.

As Zimbabwe navigates both economic challenges and international partnerships, the President’s juxtaposition of divine influence and international support adds a layer of complexity to the nation’s narrative.

Incompetent Mnangagwa Demands Results From Own Ministers

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has challenged cabinet ministers to spearhead the industrialisation and modernisation of the country’s economy by accelerating the implementation of the National Development Strategy One.

The need for ministers to accelerate the implementation of NDS1 to grow the economy and transform livelihoods took centre stage during the last cabinet meeting of the year in Harare this Tuesday.

Addressing cabinet ministers at State House, President Mnangagwa said cabinet adjournment does not mean the close of government business.

“While much work lies ahead, we must continuously do more in our quest to modernise, industrialise and grow our economy while improving the quality of life of our people.

The growth of the economy notwithstanding all ministries must work harder for the achievement of impactful results in our various programmes and projects, as such cabinet must now accelerate the implementation of National Development Strategy 1 so that our national vision 2030 of “an empowered and prosperous upper middle-income society” is attained much earlier. Your work is therefore cut off for you. Cabinet recess does not mean we close our offices completely, government business must not be disrupted and your availability to attend to issues remain integral,” he said.

The head of state highlighted that a raft of measures is being put in place to cushion citizens against the adverse effects of climate change.

He added, “Meanwhile, I want to assure the nation that the government is closely monitoring the weather with signs increasingly confirming the EL Nino prediction of a normal to below normal rainfall season. The government is putting in place the necessary measures to mitigate the adverse effects of the undesirable weather phenomenon. I also wish to point out that the overriding principle of the Cabinet system is collective responsibility which ties in well with the whole of government, whole of society approach and our endeavor to leave no one and no place behind.”

President Mnangagwa noted that expectations are high for the government to deliver in the coming year.

“In 2023, it was displeasing that some items were not discussed due to non-submission of the relevant Cabinet Memoranda, this was, despite having been proposed for consideration by Ministers. Such oversights or dereliction of duty should not be repeated in the coming year.”

“Another critical area of concern is the increasing tendency by some Ministers to table substantive matters under “Any Other
Business”.

This practice must stop. Equally, the late submission of Cabinet Memoranda is retrogressive to constructive debate and good administration, transparency, collective responsibility, and accountability,” he said.

Zimbabwe has scored major milestones in wheat and tobacco production this year, while the El Nino-induced lean season has seen the government advocating for short-season varieties and expansive growing of traditional grains.

What You Need To Know About Drug Abuse

Let’s embark on a deeper exploration of the intricate and multifaceted world of substance abuse and its close companion, denial. Denial, in the context of addiction, is not a mere assertion that one is free from substance abuse issues or can quit at will. It is a complex psychological phenomenon that often extends its reach far beyond the substance itself, influencing behaviors, circumstances, and belief systems.

Addiction, particularly when fueled by potent substances like crystal meth, exerts a profound impact on an individual’s psyche. It brings about a cascade of behavioral changes, effectively robbing them of empathy and sympathy, two fundamental aspects of human connection. What emerges from this transformation is a cocktail of aggression, anger, and various negative behaviors that become the new norm for someone trapped in the throes of addiction.

The paradox lies in the fact that, while these individuals may manifest increasingly hostile and irritable behaviors, they are often oblivious to these changes. In their self-deceptive state of denial, they may perceive themselves as harmless, even as they unwittingly push away their loved ones and make themselves inaccessible to support and understanding.

This state of denial extends to their belief system, where they staunchly maintain that their actions and substance abuse do not affect the people in their immediate environment, whether it be their coworkers, family members, or friends. They may remain steadfast in their conviction that their late-night activities in the garage, for example, are harmless, despite the disturbances they cause to those around them.

It is only as individuals progress in their journey toward recovery that the veils of denial begin to lift. These layers of self-deception gradually peel back, revealing the stark reality beneath. As they move through the steps of recovery and engage in a structured program, they slowly start to recognize the profound impact their behaviors have on those in their lives, as well as their own well-being.

For instance, take the case of an individual laboring late into the night, driven by the influence of crystal meth, blissfully unaware of the disruptions they cause to their family’s sleep and the peace of their neighbors. In their altered state, they genuinely believe they are diligently working, seemingly impervious to the harm they inflict on their surroundings.

In essence, denial is a formidable adversary, an intricate and pervasive barrier to self-awareness and change. It is not restricted solely to the quantity of drugs used or the belief that quitting is an easy feat. Denial extends its tendrils into every aspect of one’s life, reshaping perceptions and behaviors, and only begins to crumble as individuals confront their beliefs and embark on the path to recovery. As they progress in their journey, the truth gradually becomes evident, and the stronghold of denial loosens its grip, making way for a brighter, more hopeful future.

Honourable Vice Presidents, General (Rtd.) Dr. C.G.D.N. Chiwenga and Colonel (Rtd.) Cde K. C. D. Mohadi;

Honourable Ministers and the Attorney-General;

Ladies and Gentlemen;

Dr Mavaza Accuses Chamisa Of Childishness | FULL TEXT

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | In 1998, upon his arrival, Nelson Chamisa found himself surrounded by like-minded individuals, sharing assumptions about Zimbabwe’s future. As the nation underwent significant transformations, the opposition, including CCC, failed to adapt, leading to a history marred by bloodshed. Despite commanding a majority in towns and contributing to Mugabe’s removal, the opposition, especially under Chamisa, struggled to deliver meaningful democratic change in the last 23 years, including the 5-year GNU period.

Chamisa’s attempt to unite the opposition resulted in increased division, isolation, and economic decline within CCC. The entrance of Sengezo Tshabangu exposed Chamisa’s weaknesses, marking the end of his political career.

The adage “give them authority and see how they treat subordinates” underscores Chamisa’s alleged failure during his ministerial career, characterized by complaints of abrasiveness and difficulty working with civil servants. His decision to sideline figures like Biti and Welshman NCUBE led to his political downfall.

Despite media attention and scandal, Chamisa’s political achievements remain notably absent, a fact not lost on his constituents who have run out of patience. The failure to implement democratic reforms during the GNU further tarnished his image.

The image of MPs fleeing Parliament during the opposition’s calamitous end underscores Chamisa’s apparent failure to grasp ZANU PF’s imminent success, with accusations of self-delegation of critical issues adding to the critique. Despite bullying and incompetence, Chamisa remains significant for representing failure.

Chamisa’s extensive role within CCC, holding various portfolios without adequate knowledge, raises questions about the party’s decision-making. Journalists question how CCC members allowed this situation to unfold.

Sengezo Tshabangu’s challenge to CCC, along with imprecise attempts to link him with ZANU PF, is labeled a political blunder. Despite the appearance of stability after an election, Chamisa’s failure as a politician became brutally clear, exacerbated by the polarizing algorithms of Twitter and Facebook.

Amid plummeting public trust in institutions and a bleak outlook for future generations, Mavaza calls for a distinct vision, asserting that lamenting populism or nostalgic sentiments is insufficient. February 2018 marked a turning point when members of the MDC party replaced TSVANGIRAYI with CHAMISA, leading to the departure of senior MDC leaders under Chamisa’s regime.

To navigate internal conflicts, CCC and Chamisa contemplate donating Sengezo Tshabangu to ZANU PF, a move Mavaza labels as characteristic of failed politics. The final blow to the opposition in Zimbabwe is witnessed, signaling the end of Nelson CHAMISA and his student politics.

In a bold move, Chamisa, known for his trademark failures, plans to establish a new political party with a purple color, hinting at a leader ready to form a new country in the face of challenges.

Mavaza-Mthuli Triumphs As Best African Finance Minister Of 2023

By Dr. MASIMBA MAVAZA | On December 8th in London, Finance, Economic Development, and Investment Promotion Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube secured the title of the best African Finance Minister of the Year. This achievement was further embellished as Mthuli was honored among the 100 Most Reputable People at the two-day Global Reputation Forum, Reputable Bank, and Fintech Awards in Westminster, England.

The award bears witness to Zimbabwe’s endeavors to break free from the web of poverty and propel itself into economic development. Professor Ncube graciously accepted his accolade, presenting a paper and delivering a keynote address at the forum. Notably, this recognition follows the acknowledgment by Reputation Poll International, commending the Second Republic for sustaining over three percent economic growth post the devastating Covid-19 era and sanctions.

Guided by President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe navigated through economic free fall, deploying resources to combat the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite facing persistent propaganda and attacks, Professor NCUBE emerged as the best Finance Minister in Africa. Lord John Waverly, Chairman of Reputation Poll International, emphasized Mthuli’s ability to manage the Covid-19 crisis with minimal human losses despite a limited budget.

The Best Minister Award lauds government ministers demonstrating excellence in the public sector and successful initiatives for socio-economic advancement. Mthuli is now celebrated alongside finance greats like the late Bernard Chidzero for his daring and substantial microeconomic reforms, inspiring open debate and intellectual energy in the Treasury.

Mthuli’s acknowledgment in England was a testament to his national contribution. As he proudly received his award, flanked by the Zimbabwean ambassador to the UK, His Excellency Christian KATSANDE, Mthuli left an indelible mark in the halls of honor. Devoted to public service, Mthuli’s calm expertise and honesty guided Zimbabwe through the tumult of the global financial crisis, stabilizing the economy against all odds.

In financial services, Professor Mthuli earned praise not only for his achievements but also for being a gentle minister with a razor-sharp sense of humor. His success transcends personal glory, standing as a national achievement. Regardless of political views, Mthuli’s efforts during the financial crisis were pivotal in preventing Zimbabwe, if not the regional financial system, from collapsing.

Barely a year into his tenure, Mthuli navigated the worst financial crisis of the century, averting potential economic depression. Despite doubters and naysayers, Mthuli’s judgment was vindicated as he was voted the best minister in Africa. The Global Reputation Forum, Reputable Bank, and Fintech Awards celebrate officials effectively stimulating growth and stabilizing economies, recognizing Zimbabwe’s recent advances despite challenging circumstances.

Under Mthuli’s leadership, Zimbabwe’s economic profile significantly improved, witnessing a reduction in public debt and an enhanced credit rating. The country’s outlook upgraded from neutral to stable in the second half of the first term under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Finance Minister Mthuli.

Addressing a function attended by members of the House of Lords in the United Kingdom, Professor Ncube highlighted Zimbabwe’s steady economic growth and improved critical infrastructure under the Second Republic, even in the face of economic sanctions. The recent presentation of a (2024) Budget proposal aims to further improve Zimbabwe’s economy.

In an interview, Professor Ncube expressed his delight at being honored as the African Minister of the Year 2023 in the Global Reputation Poll. He emphasized the recognition of the Treasury team’s work in implementing economic policies and financial management, focusing on domestic resource mobilization to fund government programs.

Dignitaries at the high-level global forum included Bank of England’s Mr. Peter Kolade Fashesin-Souza, the Right Honourable Baroness Sandip Verma, Members of the House of Lords, global Transformational Expert Mr. Pierre Montersino, and Liberia’s senior adviser Mr. Joe Gene Mulbah.

Despite facing unwarranted criticism, Mthuli’s imaginative and courageous reforms significantly boosted Zimbabwe’s competitiveness and improved living standards. Zimbabwean economist Dr. R Sinyoro, commenting from the UK, applauded the award for validating President MNANGAGWA’s foresight in cabinet selection.

In conclusion, Mthuli’s recognition brings a pleasant Christmas surprise to Zimbabwe, underscoring his dedication to steering the nation toward economic triumphs.

Zim Dollar Collapses

By- The Zimbabwean dollar continues to lose value against the United States dollar, as reported by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) in its recent Foreign Currency Auction.

The exchange rate on Tuesday was ZW$5,903.3898 per USD, compared to ZW$5827.7972 per USD recorded on December 5, 2023.

This depreciation of the Zimbabwean dollar has been ongoing since its reintroduction in June 2019, following a period of hyperinflation that led to its abandonment for ten years.

The continuous devaluation of the currency has resulted in macroeconomic instability, characterized by high inflation rates.
To address the collapse of the local currency and stabilize the macroeconomy, the government implemented various measures. One such measure was making it mandatory for certain taxes to be paid in Zimbabwean dollars, aiming to create demand for the currency and maintain its value. However, economists, like Tinashe Murapata, argued that this demand was only superficial.
Unfortunately, these measures have not yet yielded the desired results, and the economy remains unstable. There are concerns that the situation may worsen in the coming year. Nevertheless, the government assures the nation that it is taking necessary steps to prevent a further deterioration of the economy.
The continuous depreciation of the Zimbabwean dollar against the US dollar raises concerns about the purchasing power of individuals and businesses, as well as the overall economic stability. It highlights the need for effective measures and reforms to address the underlying issues and restore confidence in the local currency. The majority of workers, particularly government workers are paid in Zimbabwean dollars which means inflation will erode their incomes.

Zahara Was “Poisoned”

By- The family of the late Musician Zahara has said that a jealous relative could have poisoned the musician.

It’s reported that the Loliwe hitmaker was poisoned by a family member just days after or during her lobola negotiations.

Moreover, the family also believes that the singer was bewitched which led to her hospital stay. According to ZiMoja, a close family member opened up about what may have led to the singer’s health complications and ultimate hospital stay.

The source allegedly revealed that they suspect that Zahara was poisoned by one of her close relatives, supposedly at her lobola celebration.

Zahara’s fiancé, Mpho Xaba, had just paid off lobola for his bride, and their families came together to celebrate. However, just days after the festivities, the Umthwalo singer was sent to the hospital.

“A relative must have gotten upset after hearing that the Xaba family had returned to pay off the outstanding amount for lobola. We suspect that Zahara was either poisoned or muthi was put into her drink.”

Security Scare As Hail Storm Destroys Whawha Prison

By-A Hail storm has blown off the roofing of a section of Whawha Prison in Gweru, exposing the jail to possible escapes.

The officer in charge of the correctional facility, Superintendent Tineyi Makeredza, told ZBC News that prisoners had to be moved to buildings that remained intact. He said:

The heavy winds came at around 2 PM. They blew away the roofs of nine cells. Around 100 prisoners had to be moved to other cells.

Our carrying capacity is 1 200 and we already had 1 460 prisoners, meaning we were overcrowded already. The situation has been worsened by this unfortunate incident.

Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) Midlands Province Deputy Officer Commanding, Assistant Commissioner Clemence Chigogo said:

It is a very sad situation that occurred at this prison. My officers are still quantifying the amount of loss incurred.

We also have around 20 families of officers whose houses were affected in the camp.

This is the second time we have experienced such as it also happened sometime in 2016.

We didn’t anticipate this and as such we need materials from the corporate world so that we rectify the problem.

Chigogo said that alternative accommodation for affected officers and families has since been provided.

Zimbabwe is experiencing increased rainfall activity, with most of the rainfall events violent in nature.

Weather forecasts are predicting rainfall almost daily until after Christmas for much of the country.

Facts About Drug Addiction

CCC Leadership Deliberates On Way Forward

THE Citizens Coalitions for Change (CCC) leadership is meeting yesterday to deliberate on the way forward after the party was barred from participating in Saturday’s by-election which saw Zanu PF winning seven of the vacant nine National Assembly seats.

The ruling party also gained four council seats, three in Bulawayo and one in Masvingo, in the elections marred by poor voter turnout.

The by-elections were called after self-imposed CCC interim secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu recalled several legislators and councillors elected in the August 23 to 24 harmonised elections.

The main CCC faction led by Nelson Chamisa successfully renominated the recalled MPs and councillors, but Tshabangu applied to the High Court to have them removed from the ballot paper. His application was granted and the candidates failed to participate in the by-elections.

The situation has reportedly thrust the opposition party in a dilemma on the way forward as some party members are reportedly mobilising for withdrawal from Parliament in protest over the electoral fisaco.

In an interview with NewsDay, CCC organising secretary Amos Chibaya said the party’s national assembly would meet in the capital to discuss the way forward.

“The citizens national assembly is going to meet tomorrow (today) in the capital. This is where we are going to come up with a decision we are going to take and we are going to call a Press conference after the meeting,” he said.

Meanwhile, in a statement following announcement of the by-election results, CCC national spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi said the party took all necessary measures for its party members to participate in the weekend polls.

“The just ended Zanu PF masterminded by-elections gave the full picture of the regime’s brazen determination to undermine democracy, shred the Constitution and deny citizens their inalienable right to vote for representatives of their choice,” he said.

“The ill-fated elections are a sham as evidenced by an unprecedented low voter turnout and unusually high number of spoilt ballots both signalling the people’s anger and growing impatience with the regime’s shenanigans.”

Mkwananzi also said the party took all necessary legal steps to ensure the inclusion of its candidates on the ballot in the by-elections.

“It is sad that more than 40 years after independence citizens have to approach the courts to be on the ballot paper and actually be denied that effectively denying citizens the choice to vote for the removed candidates,” he said, adding that CCC would file a formal complaint with the Judicial Service Commission.

In October this year, CCC ordered all its parliamentarians and councillors to temporarily disengage from Parliament and local authority business, pursuant to a resolution of citizens national assembly on the recalls.

Bruising Showdown Between Malaba, Opposition Parties

Chief Justice Luke Malaba and opposition political parties could be headed for a bruising showdown after he reportedly ordered court registrars to furnish his office with information on all election-related cases prior to them being filed at the courts.

A circular seen by NewsDay written by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to registrars stipulates the procedures to be followed in managing electoral matters. Titled: Practice Direction Number 2 of 2023: Management of Electoral Matters, the circular was dated November 30 and signed by Justice Malaba.

The new development comes after the main opposition Citizens Coalitions for Change (CCC) accused the Judiciary of being captured by the ruling Zanu PF party as all judgments were going against the Nelson Chamisa-led party.

However, JSC secretary Walter Chikwanha said he was not aware of the circular when contacted for comment yesterday.

According to the circular, the registrars should immediately, and not later 24 hours, notify Malaba and issue directions on the management of the matters.

The circular purported that post-election matters arising from declaration of poll results should be finalised within two months and not more than 90 days.

“Upon filing an electoral matter, a registrar shall immediately and in any event, no later than twenty-four hours from the time of filing place the matter before the Chief Justice, Judge President or senior judge as the case may be, for giving of directions on the management of the matter. The Chief Justice, Judge President or senior judge shall forthwith issue directions on the matter,” partly read the circular.

The circular said where it was fit, the Chief Justice, Judge President or senior judge would, accordingly, direct the registrar to invite the parties to a case management meeting.

Malaba, two years ago presided over the swearing in of Judge President Justice Mary Zimba-Dube who replaced Justice George Chiweshe.

“Upon the referral of a matter to him or her in terms of paragraph 3.1 above, Chief Justice, Judge President or senior judge shall allocate the electoral matter to a judge or judges.

“In post electoral matters, that is any electoral matters arising after a declaration of the result of an election has been made, the timelines shall be such that matters are finalised within two months after filing and in any other cases, not more than ninety days from the declaration of the electoral result.

“A finalised electoral matter is one in which a final judgment has been passed and the reasons thereof, if any handed down,” the circular noted, further stating that judges dealing with electoral matters at the first instance should, in determining the timelines for hearing and finalisation of the matter, take into account the possibility of a subsequent appeal or review that may be made.

“In the pre-electoral matters, that is any electoral matters arising before an election had been conducted, the timelines shall be such that matters are finalised within a week of their filing and, insofar as it may be possible not less than twenty-one days before the election.

“In electoral matters arising during an election, matters shall be managed with the utmost urgency so as to ensure that they are disposed of insofar as it may be possible within two days of the date of filing and before the conclusion of election or the declaration of the results of the election,” the circular added.

Strict instructions on case management procedures are also highlighted in the circular which insists on strict timelines within which electoral matters are to be prosecuted.

Baptism Of Fire For Tshabangu Candidates

Parliamentary candidates endorsed by Sengezo Tshabangu in the recently concluded by-elections reported facing extensive smear campaigns and insults from members of other parties, adversely impacting their performance in the polls.

As a result, one of Tshabangu’s candidates claimed he was forced to report fellow party members in the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) to the police for name-calling and tampering with his electoral messages.

Tshabangu fielded candidates for the five vacant seats after recalling the elected CCC MPs who were then barred by the High Court from contesting, but only two of these were successful, while the other three seats were won by Zanu PF.

The two CCC candidates who won were Charles Moyo with 1 632 votes in Mpopoma-Mzilikazi and the other Tendayi Chitura Nyathi who polled 1 648 votes in Lobengula Magwegwe.

However, these Tshabangu candidates claimed they were subjected to a massive disinformation campaign by fellow CCC party members, who manipulated electoral posters and urged voters not to vote at all.

“As far as challenges are concerned, we faced a lot of decampaigning from our rivals within our party in CCC,” said Vusumuzi Chirwa, who was running in Cowdray Park in an interview with CITE.

Chirwa received 1 560 votes losing to Zanu PF’s Aurther Mujeyi who received 1 765 to be the Cowdray Park MP.

Chirwa stated there was only one CCC, but accused some party members of acting as if there were now two CCC parties, with one led by Tshabangu.

“There is only one CCC, I want to make that clear. CCC is led by Advocate Nelson Chamisa. He’s my president and is the president of CCC. There is no other CCC,” he said, claiming he was one of the initial candidates who had expressed interest to run for Cowdray Park before the national elections.

“I am here because someone was recalled. There are no two CCCs and there was one candidate in the beginning, the legitimate and official one, which was me – Vusumuzi Chirwa.”

However, Chirwa narrated that following the recall debacle, they faced numerous challenges from within the party.

“There was a lot of smear camping as people were told all sorts of lies about my candidature. The truth is people in Cowdray Park know I have always been an opposition member from time immemorial. but what we saw in the lead up to by-elections is violence in nature. There was editing of my posters, tempering with the electoral posters to read that voters must not vote at all,” he said.

“That is criminal and is cyberbullying, which I condemn.”

Chirwa claimed the disinformation campaign targeting him became so bad that he eventually went to the police and opened a case.

“I reached a point where I had to report some of the criminals behind that to the Law and Order Section of police, hoping the law will take its course. This affected us a lot in our campaign as people were saying wrong things,” he said.

“We are clear and I’m clear right now that the CCC president is Advocate Nelson Chamisa. He’s the only president and there is no other CCC. This is one single party.”

Chirwa went on to say the ‘disgruntlement’ that people were witnessing was “side drama” caused by other party members.

“We stepped up and I came in to fill a vacancy that arose in Cowdray Park following the recall of a former MP,” he said.

Another Tshabangu candidate, Ambrose Sibindi, who ran and lost in Nketa Constituency, agreed that he was subjected to a barrage of insults.

“As you know in CCC we had challenges. I experienced some people who passed some very derogatory marks towards me as a person,” he said.

“I managed these by not responding. Eventually, the public will see I am mature, I am a leader. Eventually towards the election because I was not responding the remarks died down.”

Sibindi received 1 439 votes but was defeated by Zanu PF candidate Tawanda Albert Mavunga, who received 1 550 votes.

According to Sibindi, “information and talk circulating that people should not vote” affected attendance.

“People were not flowing in as we were expecting. There was a bit of apathy. However we all know by-elections in Zimbabwe are always like that,” he said as he lamented the poor turnout in the by-election.

Zim Man Lands Top UN Job

Zimbabwean Thompson Chengeta (38) has been appointed to the United Nations Secretary General’s 15-member advisory board on disarmament matters.

Born in Shurugwi and growing up in the villages of Nhema, Hwinya and Chachacha, where he used to look after cattle barefooted, he has been appointed by UN Secretary-General Mr Antonio Guterres.

Mr Chengeta’s key areas of expertise and interest lie in examining the disarmament implications of military artificial intelligence, including autonomous weapon systems from a human rights law perspective.

He received his internship at the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The UN Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters was established in 1978 according to paragraph 124 of the Final Document of the Tenth Special Session of the General Assembly. It received its current mandate under General Assembly decision 54/418 of December 1, 1999.

Functions of the Board are to advise the UN Secretary-General on matters within the area of arms limitation and disarmament, including on studies and research under the auspices of the UN or institutions within the UN system, and to serve as the board of trustees of the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR).

In his invitation, Mr Gutteres said Mr Chengeta’s experience and knowledge will enhance the work of the Board.

“Your experience and knowledge will enhance the work of the board, both in its advisory capacity on disarmament issues and in its role as the board of trustees of the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR),” said Mr Guterres.

In his response, Mr Chengeta expressed his appreciation for the honour and said he eagerly looks forward to contributing in his new capacity.

“As one whose life began in the rural areas of Shurugwi in Zimbabwe, in the villages of Nhema, Hwinya, Chachacha etc, where my little cracked-bare feet more fully followed the flock than they tracked to far away schools, this appointment is an honour and truly appreciated.

“Now that one of my key areas of expertise and interest lies in examining the disarmament implications of military AI, including autonomous weapon systems, from a human rights law perspective, I’m equally pleased that last October, the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution A/C.1/78/L.56 requesting the UN Secretary-General to seek the views of states and other stakeholders on the humanitarian, legal, security, and ethical challenges posed by autonomous weapon systems,” he said.

Plumtree Man In Hot Soup For Calling Police Officers ‘Dogs’

A 56-year-old Plumtree man has been dragged to court after reportedly calling police officers “dogs”.

Norman Mpofu appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware facing a charge of disorderly conduct.

Mpofu was granted free bail and will be back in court on January 9 for trial continuation.

Prosecutor Selestine Madziwa said the complainant was Blessed Sande (28), a Plumtree-based police officer.

Madziwa said on November 8 this year, Mpofu was driving his Honda Fit vehicle at around 10am near Plumtree High School when he came across Sande who was on duty in the company of his colleague Laston Chivasa.

Mpofu allegedly took photos of Sande without his permission. When Sande asked him why he was taking the photos without his consent, Mpofu insulted him.

He allegedly said: “Liyizinja lina Mapholisa.” Loosely translated, this means “you police officers are dogs.”

The police officers arrested Mpofu for the utterances.

Former Mabvuku Legislator Kufa Out On Free Bail

Citizens Coalition for Change  (CCC) former Mabvuku-Tafara MP Munyaradzi Kufahakutizwi has been released on free bail by Harare magistrate Esther Chichera.

Kufahakutizwi is facing malicious damage to property charges after he allegedly smashed the windows of a vehicle belonging to Pastors 4ED affiliate which was being used by Zanu PF supporters who were campaigning for his opponent, Pedzai ‘Scott’ Sakupwanya in the build-up to Saturday’s by-elections.

Sakupwanya was later appointed the new Member of Parliament uncontested after Kufahakutizwi was removed from the ballot by the High Court for having filed nomination papers under CCC which had recalled him.

Kufahakutizwi is also facing assault charges.

Prosecutors allege he assaulted a Mabvuku man for having confronted him and other mourners at a funeral, for stepping on his lawn.

In the first count, the complainant is Patrick Chiremba aged 45.

According to the State, on 21 November 2023, Chiremba authorised one Douglas Matadi the National Administration Officer for Pastors in Action 4ED to use his Toyota Hiace registration number ADC 9140 to campaign for the 9 December 2023 By-elections ZANU PF National Assembly candidate for Mabvuku Tafara Constituency, Pedzai Sakupwanya.

“On the same date at around 1300 hours, while the complainant and his colleagues were parked at Kamunhu Shopping Centre, Mabvuku, the accused and his accomplices who are still at large approached the complainant while aboard a yellow and black Toyota Baby Quantum and block the complainant’s vehicle.

“Unknown four male adults disembarked from the accused’s vehicle and force opened the complainant’s vehicle doors and demanded to see one Morgan Mupfurutsa.”

Court papers further read, “The accused who was seated at the back of the Toyota Hiace, instructed his accomplices to destroy the complainant’s vehicle uttering in vernacular language that “aya mapastors for ED ngavazive zvevhangeri chete, pwanyai mota iyoyo”, loosely translated to say pastors4ED should stick to preaching not politics, destroy their car.”

In the assault allegation, the complainant is Michael Nyasulu a male adult aged 35 years residing at house number 72 Shashe Crescent New Mabvuku Harare.

According to the state, on the 18th of November 2023 at around 1400 hours at number 59 Shashe Crescent New Mabvuku Harare, there was a funeral opposite where the complainant resides.

There was a huge crowd of mourners who had gathered to attend the funeral and some mourners seated in the garden destroyed it.

Stanbic Named 2023 Bank Of The Year By The Banker

Harare, 12 December 2023 – Stanbic Bank has been selected 2023 Bank of the Year in Zimbabwe by world renown London-based magazine, The Banker, cementing its place as one of the country’s leading financial services institutions.

The award for Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe also saw five other Standard Bank Group (SBG) country banks across Africa named as African leaders in the prestigious Banker magazine’s annual global awards held in London recently.

Stanbic Bank was named as the best bank in Zimbabwe and was one of those selected from a field of more than 400 global entrants to win honours in the prestigious awards.
The other SBG operations that were named the best in their countries were: Standard Bank Angola; Standard Bank Lesotho; Standard Bank Namibia; Stanbic IBTC Nigeria; Stanbic Bank Zambia.

The Banker magazine is widely considered as an “authoritative source of global financial analysis and data-driven intelligence.”

The Banker is renowned for having dedicated content pillars which share new banking trends as well as having expert editorial analysis, in-depth research and succinct summaries of key topics affecting the banking sector.

Stanbic Bank Chief Executive (CE), Solomon Nyanhongo, said The Banker noted that the institution weathered an increasingly challenging operating environment characterised by high inflation and shortage of foreign currency.

“The judges were impressed by the bank’s support for the all-important agricultural sector. With the foreign currency shortage set to threaten the viability of the tobacco selling season and with the support of its parent company, Standard bank Group, Stanbic arranged offshore lines of credit worth USD385m which helped tobacco merchants fund the growing and purchasing of tobacco,” said Nyanhongo.

He said the offshore lines of credit helped the farmers receive their sale proceeds in a timely fashion, ensuring that input costs were covered. The tobacco-selling season commenced in March 2023 and before the auction floors had been opened, Stanbic Bank had pursued its strategic initiative of increasing its point of representation during the season for the convenience of tobacco farmers.

Nyanhongo said more than 33 000 new accounts were opened for farmers ahead of the season. Stanbic’s offshore lines of credit, contributed to the improved quality and volumes of tobacco that were delivered at auction floors.

An aggregate of 296 million kgs of tobacco was produced in 2023 up from 212million that was delivered in the previous season.

“The award reflects not only the strength and depth of operations and skills but also the calibre of both our people and our clients in the jurisdictions in which we operate. The award, therefore, is something that we can all be proud of, as we all played a part in securing it for Stanbic bank,” says Nyanhongo.

The Banker noted that winners of the award from various countries in Africa, Asia-Pacific and the Americas had proven their mettle in the face of series economic headwinds and market volatility during the past year, developing innovative products and services, modernizing their infrastructure and delivering bottom line results.

The focus on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues was a common thread in all wining submissions.

The Banker commented that, “Sustainability is no longer a “nice to have” but vital for the future success of each and every bank.”

“This year we made awards in 140 countries. We received more than 400 submissions, with the highest number coming from Africa, followed by Asia-pacific and the Americas,” said The Banker.

The award for Stanbic Bank comes hard on the heels of four other accolades won by the financial services institution last month.

Last month Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe scooped four prestigious awards – two at the Banks and Banking Survey sponsored by financial services institution, FCB and publishing company, Alpha Media Holdings, one at the Contact Centre Association of Zimbabwe (CCAZ) as well as one from ESG Network Zimbabwe.

The Standard Bank Group subsidiary won the Overall Best Performing Bank, Best Bank Customer Service, Winner in the Banking Sector – Service Excellence Awards and Outstanding Contribution to Health & Education Support Award.

Zanu PF Goes For Chamisa Aide

By- Zanu PF in Harare has caused the arrest of the main opposition Citizens Coalition for Change, senior official Munyaradzi Kufahakutizwi, who was running as the party’s candidate for the Mabvuku-Tafara constituency in the 23-24 August 2023 harmonised elections.

Kufahakutizwi was arrested by the Police Tuesday and charged with assault and malicious property damage, according to Prosper Mkwananzi, the party’s spokesperson. Said Mkwananzi on X:

Alert: Hon @KufaMunyaof Mabvuku-Tafara constituency is currently held at Harare Central Police and will soon be taken to Rotten Row Magistrates Court on trumped-up charges of assault and malicious damage to property.

Kufahakutizwi who was elected Member of Parliament for Mabvuku-Tafara Constituency in the 23 August 2023 harmonised elections recently called on Zimbabweans to defend themselves against Zanu PF’s disregard for the constitution.

He was commenting on the High Court order which barred him from contesting in the Mabvuku-Tafara constituency by-election to fill the vacant post which became vacant when he was recalled from Parliament by Sengezo Tshabangu. He said:

They are squeezing us to the bone and pushing us towards a One-Party State.

We believe that they did this to attain a two-thirds majority so they amend the constitution and allow President Emmerson Mnangagwa to be a life president.

As Zimbabweans, it is high time we stand up because we cannot continue being ruled by this heartless government. People are really angry.

They took away the life of an innocent pastor who was campaigning; if they had known that they would just take the seat they should have spared his life because now they have destroyed his family’s future.

He was referring to the murder of Tapfumaneyi Masaya, a clergyman and activist for the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party, who was abducted and later found dead in Harare. The CCC claims that Masaya suffered severe injuries and his body had decomposed due to the injection of a harmful substance.

Masaya was abducted while campaigning for Kufahakutizwi who had been recalled by Tshabangu who claims to be the CCC’s interim secretary-general.

Zimdaily Cartoon Exposes Fadzayi Mahere for Helping Mnangagwa Breathe

The hot-caking Zimdaily cartoon seems so true of CCC MPs like Fadzayi Mahere who’re lying that they are waiting on their leader, Nelson Chamisa’s orders before they exit Mnangagwa’s nonsensical parliament, when truth is they want to remain in there eating crumbs of the GoldMafia. This is a banging cartoon by @Zimdaily, revealiing that Parliament is neither a zone of autonomy or of power especially when it’s illegal from inception; and for 46 years running, no one has ever taken state power from participating in illegal parliamentarism.

By Simba Chikanza | Power is outside and the most ordinary citizen has ability to seize power not through any demo or special effort, but through the most simplistic of methodologies. Emmerson Mnangagwa for instance, did not join Ian Smith’s Parliament, he left the country, and while his (Mnangagwa’s) technique was traveling outside Zimbabwe to Zambia to bed Tongogara’s sister on Smith’s instructions, so to get power from 1977; for me Human Rights Watch’s local director reports how I removed a sitting State President in a single phonecall interview while outside Parliament and outside the country in 2021, and in the last year alone I have controlled Mnangagwa’s wife, Auxillia via phone for 2 days on full colour videocall; In the whole month of August 2023, I controlled a Zambian Presidential candidate who is the nation’s former Foreign Affairs Minister via phone for nearly 3 weeks, and in the first week of Dec 2023, I have single handedly run both Scott Sakupwanya’s and Sengezo Tshabangu’s Office operations via phone while 6,000 miles away.

Is this not clear evidence that power is outside not within illegal system carrots?

Will CCC be able to handle the GoldMafia implicated, Scott Sakupwanya in the August house whose only work experience and method of engagement is ‘typed down’ as machete-based-conversations? How will Scott behave once he is in Parliament? The late Joshua Nkomo drew a violent massacre onto tens of thousands of innocent civilians by participating in a marriage with the violent Mnangagwa run ZANU PF security system, and his MPs began receiving raids from around Nov 1980 at their Harare houses when ZANU PF chased them down as a method of concluding Parliament debates, violently. The violent debates later spread down to the Entumbane battlefields to kill thousands of innocent lives.

On numerous occasions I have illustrated that the Zim people have state power already and it is right in their hands not inside the Chinese built Parliament building. And after Mnangagwa’s illegalities have been exposed by SADC, AU, and now the IPU, there is no more reason for CCC MPs to hope on thinking they can do better than Joshua Nkomo. It is time to break out of illegal institutions and lead the masses in revolutionary methods, that are really simple approaches of taking and excercising the state power they possess in their hands lest they end up transferring it to illegals.

Like Morgan Tsvangirai learnt when Hele regained his now fading state power, by boycotting in 2009, state power will never come from illegal systems, or their despotic leaders. Despots will never give power to the masses. State power is in the hands of the most ordinary citizens who take advantage of it and it comes from simply realising it and exercising it.

Power is obtained from the masses, not from despots or their illegal parliaments. The closer you are to despots, the farther you are away from power. – Simba Chikanza, ZimEye

Algeria FA Boycotts CAF Awards

The Algerian Football Federation didn’t attend the 2023 CAF Awards in Morocco on Monday in protest over Riyad Mahrez’s exclusion in the final three nominees for the CAF Player of the Year.

Mahrez missed out in the final shortlist which had Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah and Moroccan defender Achraf Hakimi.

Osimhen was the eventual winner at the awards ceremony, picking his first ever CAF’s top award.

President of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) Walid Sadi boycotted the event and even called on fellow Algerians to disregard the ceremony in solidarity to Mahrez.

“I will not attend the CAF Awards ceremony. I have informed CAF of my decision, and, with the grace of God, no Algerian will be present at this event in solidarity with Riyad Mahrez and the Union Sportive de la Medina d’Alger,” he said at the press briefing ahead of the awards, as quoted by Draiz Tube.-Soccer24 News

Incompetent Mnangagwa Tells Ministers Not To Be Incompetent

“President Mnangagwa’s Call for Competence: A Closer Look at Governance in Zimbabwe”

Gwanda tender loot, Wicknel Chivayo with Emmerson Mnangagwa

By Farai D Hove | In a recent cabinet session chaired by President Mnangagwa, the leader demanded accountability and efficiency from his ministers, urging them to maintain a high standard of governance as the country progresses towards its Vision 2030 goals. However, this call for competence raises eyebrows when considering the President’s own alleged involvement in Goldmafia gold smuggling, which has wreaked havoc on African nations since 1990.

The President’s emphasis on ministers’ responsibilities comes at a time when reports suggest that his administration has been plagued by incompetence and corruption, particularly in the form of gold smuggling that has negatively impacted African countries for over three decades. Critics argue that the President’s demand for excellence from his subordinates seems hypocritical given his alleged involvement in activities detrimental to the region.

While addressing the cabinet, President Mnangagwa highlighted concerns about ministers neglecting their duties, citing instances where critical items were not discussed due to the non-submission of relevant Cabinet Memoranda. Ironically, critics argue, the President’s own involvement in gold smuggling may be a significant factor contributing to the nation’s challenges, further undermining his position to reprimand others.

The President’s scientific approach to governance, underlined by performance-based contracts for ministers, raises questions about the effectiveness of such measures when the leader himself is allegedly embroiled in illicit activities. The call for ministers to undertake self-evaluation is seen as ironic, considering the President’s own need for self-reflection on his role in activities that have destabilized the region.

As President Mnangagwa urges ministers to align their agendas with the broader Government Vision, critics argue that his alleged involvement in gold smuggling undermines the very vision he promotes. The demand for accelerated implementation of the National Development Strategy 1 and the attainment of Vision 2030 goals may ring hollow when the leader is accused of contributing to the challenges faced by the nation.

Despite the President’s assurance that the Cabinet recess does not imply a complete closure of government offices, skeptics point out that the administration’s commitment to continuity may be overshadowed by the shadows of alleged misconduct at the highest levels. The President’s assertion that the country continues to entrench constitutionalism and democratic practices is met with skepticism, given the allegations surrounding his involvement in activities detrimental to the democratic fabric of the region.

In conclusion, President Mnangagwa’s recent call for competence and accountability from his ministers raises serious questions about the leader’s own credibility, particularly in light of allegations related to Goldmafia gold smuggling. As Zimbabwe strives towards its development goals, the nation faces a crucial challenge in reconciling the demand for excellence from its leaders with the need for transparency and integrity at the highest levels of government.

ED Govt Boasts Saying It’s Got Enough Grain to Feed Country for 10 Months

Zimbabwe’s Government Faces Accusations of Concealing Decades of Mismanagement in Food Reserves

In a latest revelation, it has been exposed that the Zimbabwean government’s claim of having enough grain reserves to sustain the nation for the next 10 months is marred by a decade-long history of shambolic food reserves management.

Despite official statements by Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services Minister, Dr. Jenfan Muswere, the reality behind the scenes tells a different story. The government asserts that the Grain Marketing Board currently holds 235,095 tonnes of grain, ensuring 10.2 months of food security. However, critics argue that this proclamation masks a history of inefficiency and neglect.

Sources reveal that the private sector imported a staggering 313,719 tonnes of wheat and maize between April 1 and December 3, casting doubt on the government’s ability to effectively manage and distribute essential food resources. The revelation suggests a stark contrast between the claimed reserves and the actual imports, leaving citizens questioning the transparency and competence of the authorities.

The livestock crisis in Matabeleland, Masvingo, and Midlands provinces further highlights the government’s failure to address the adverse effects of weather conditions. While Minister Muswere outlined measures such as borehole drilling and disease management, reports from affected areas indicate a dire situation with an estimated 5,000 cattle already lost due to shortages of pastures and water.

Moreover, the delayed planting season, with only 95,156 hectares planted as of December 10, 2023, compared to 465,707 hectares in the same period last year, exposes a lack of preparedness and strategic planning. Dr. Muswere’s urging of farmers to plant ultra-early maturity varieties due to the anticipated short cropping season raises concerns about the government’s responsiveness to climate patterns.

As the nation grapples with these revelations, questions arise about the efficacy of the Pfumvudza/Intwasa model, touted as critical for climate-proofing. Dr. Muswere insists that the country has sufficient seed stock, but critics argue that the stark difference in planted hectares reveals a potential crisis in food production.

The government’s plan to finance the agricultural sector with support from both public and private entities, including banks, further raises skepticism about the transparency and accountability in managing critical resources. Zimbabweans are left questioning the validity of the government’s assurances and demanding immediate action to address the apparent mismanagement that threatens the nation’s food security.

About Mutoriro And Addiction

Super Eagles Walk Tall

It promises to be a sleepless night in Nigeria after the West African country dominated the CAF 2023 Awards held in Marrakech, Morocco this Monday.

A new name in Victor Osimhen helped Nigerians taste Men’s Player of the year glory, whilst Asisat Oshoala extended her record on the female’s end.

Osimhen wrote a piece in history after breaking a two-decade-plus jinx by winning the 2023 African Footballer of the Year award in Morocco this Monday.

The 24-year-old striker, who guided Napoli to their first title in 33-years, also delivered an exorcism for his country by bringing an end to a 24-year-old spell which has seen no Nigerian player bagging Africa’s premium football award.

Nwankwo Kanu was Nigeria’s last recipient of the award in the year that Osimhen was born, but the Napoli star beat his age-mate-record to become the sixth Nigerian to win the award.

The 24-year-old who finished eight in the Balon d Or is the highest African goal scorer in Serie A and currently holds the record for the most goals scored by an African in a single season.

Osimhen beat 25-year-old Achraf Hakimi and two-time winner Mohamed Salah to the award following a sumptuous 2022-23 season with the Serie-A side.

It was certainly a night to remember in Nigeria as lethal striker Oshoala received the 2023 Women’s Player of the Year for a record sixth time.

The West Africans were not done yet as Chiamaka Nnadozie was named the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year whilst their ladies team was also named the 2023 Women’s National Team of the Year, as the West African nation were the biggest winners of the day.

Meanwhile, South African international, Percy Tau was crowned the 2023 Men’s Interclub Player of the Year after a brilliant season with Egyptian giants Al Ahly, while his club was named the 2023 Men’s Club of the Year.

It was a good day in the office for South Africans as Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis was named the 2023 Women’s Coach of the Year, whilst South African outfit Mamelodi Sundowns were crowned the 2023 Women’s Club of the Year.

Senegalese international, Lamine Camara also walked out with smiles after winning the 2023 Men’s Young Player of the Year award.

The host nation also ensured they won’t be left with nothing as Morocco were named the National Team of the Year for their exploits at thr World Cup in Qatar, whilet their coach Walid Regragui was honored as the 2023 Men’s Coach of the Year.

Their goal minder, Yassine Bounou got the Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year for 2023 award.

Heavy Winds Blow Off Whawha Prison Roof

HEAVY rains which were accompanied by strong winds have left a trail of destruction at the Whawha Prison complex in Gweru, leading to overcrowding of prisoners at the institution.

Whawha Medium Prison Officer in Charge, Superintendent Tineyi Makeredza said, “The heavy winds came at around 2 pm. They blew away the roofs of nine cells. Around 100 prisoners had to be moved to other cells. Our carrying capacity is 1 200 and we already had 1 460 prisoners, meaning we were overcrowded already. The situation has been worsened by this unfortunate incident.”

Prison authorities say assistance from various stakeholders is welcome to improve the situation.

“It is a very sad situation that occurred at this prison.

My officers are still quantifying the amount of loss incurred. We also have around 20 families of officers whose houses were affected in the camp. This is the second time we have experienced such as it also happened sometime in 2016.

We didn’t anticipate this and as such we need materials from the corporate world so that we rectify the problem,” said ZPCS Midlands Province Deputy Officer Commanding, Assistant Commissioner Clemence Chigogo.

Alternative accommodation for affected officers and families has since been provided as prison authorities are working round the clock for possible solutions to the problem at hand.

Proposed Way Forward For Zimbabwe | By Dr Marunda

By Dr Elizabeth Marunda | Opening Remarks
With respect to our current political economy of Zimbabwe, “It is the responsibility of each living individual to stand up humbly against the Machiavellian Approach to life and politics, persuading those wishing and working towards the sustainable control of others, to
stop in their tracks, and empathize with humanity”
A Proposal
A proposal to how those interested in change may contribute:
1. The supermarket offer reasonable discounts for mealie-meal,(M) surf (S)and vim (V) AND
2. Those feeling the desire to contribute buy the product whose making process is described below in 3.
3. That some interested people and recall affected MPs buy those three items. mix the above ingredieants in the the following propotions 3 cups/3 plates/3bucketsThen 1tablespoon surf/1 table spoon vim) NB: I have changed the ratios because mealie meal alone is very effective. It can remove all the rusty appearance that might have accumulated at the bottom of the toilet sink
4. Let there be a cell phone advertised so that people in Zimbabwe can make their donations of as little as USD0.50 which can be transparently distributed among the affected members in question.
5. Since the recall has rendered the opposition member-less??, it would not hurt to swallow pride and think of coming up with an old name, like MDT as already proposed by one member, or a name like Zimbabwe Democratic Alliance for People (ZDAP) and more suggestions on names made, so that the leadership can settle on one.
5.1 Then on the basis of the ten provinces( Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, Bulawayo, Manicaland, Mashonaland East, Mashonaland West, Mashonaland Central, Harare, Midlands, and Masvingo THEN Zimbabwean Diasporeans in the Asian Continent, Australia, Americas and Europe (ie 14 “Provinces” standing for 14 Ministries- that can quickly be brainstormed, a list of examples is below.
1. Ministry Of ECD, Primary, Secondary And Higher Education
2. Ministry Of Health, Social Welfare, NSSA And Pensions
3. Ministry Of Land Audit, Valuation, Agricultural Training And Land Allocation
4. Ministry Of Agriculture, Water And Irrigation
5. Ministry Of Value & Culture Based Entrepreneurship , Youths, Women, Diaspora-Student- Working-Adults-And-Professional Returnees, Differently Abled, Refugees And Out Of Correctional Service.
6. Ministry Of Infrastructure , Green Energy And Sustainable Aesthetics(Innovative Re-Afforestation And Landscaping)
7. Ministry Of Industry, Commerce and Foreign Affairs
8. Ministry Of Tourism, Transport, Environment, Sport, And Recreation
9. Ministry Of Home Affairs, Defense And The Prison Service
10. Ministry Of Urban And Rural Planning, Construction And Housing
11. Ministries-Based Research, Policy Development & Analysis, , Monitoring And Evaluation
12. Ministry Of Publication, Literary And Expressive Arts, Film Industry And Entertainment
13. Ministry Of All Local Languages Regional Languages, International Languages And Exchange Programmes
14. Ministry Of Benchmarking, Engineering, Model Making Of Solar Panels, Solar Batteries, Solar Cars, Electric Cars, And Novel Electrical Appliances And ITC Based Technologies
What is being said here? Each of the 14 ‘Provinces’ is allocated a Shadow Minister with relevant qualifications. (This is a Leadership Assignment) Then each Minister through the relevant recruitment committee from the Commission Of Human Capital Development, Human Resources Recruitment and Monitoring, As Well As, Outside Professional Placements) carries out the staffing of newly needed personnel in Ministries and Parastatals
Two critical Factors for Consideration:
Please note that the Equality and Fairness to opportunities will be enjoyed with conscious development and implementation of recruitment policies. In addition to relevant qualifications, among other recruitment criteria, often complained about, but ignored on the ground, are:
• Gender composition
• Ethnic composition (15)
• Youths
• Differently Abled
• Individuals Out of Correctional Services
THIS IS FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Chamisa In Renewed Plan To Tackle Mnangagwa

By A Correspondent- The leadership of the main opposition, the Citizens Coalitions for Change (CCC) leadership, met today to deliberate on the way forward after the party was barred from participating in Saturday’s by-election which saw Zanu PF winning seven of the vacant nine National Assembly seats.

SA’s Anti-ZEPs Minister Rushed To Hospital

By James Gwati – South Africa’s Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has been admitted to the Steve Biko Academic Hospital for an undisclosed medical procedure, prompting concerns about his availability in the coming days.

The Department of Home Affairs issued a statement confirming the hospitalization, indicating that the Minister’s absence may extend for an unspecified period. The specifics of Motsoaledi’s condition and his expected stay duration remain undisclosed.

Ministerial spokesperson Thabo Mokgola conveyed the information in a brief statement, revealing that Motsoaledi entered the hospital on Monday, December 11, 2023, for the medical procedure.

Mokgola stated, “The Minister of Home Affairs, Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi, has today, December 11 2023, been admitted to the Steve Biko Academic Hospital for a medical procedure. The Minister may be unavailable for a while.”

Motsoaledi, who previously served as the Minister of Health for a decade before assuming his current role, has been a notable figure among Zimbabweans due to his persistent attempts to terminate Zimbabwe Exemption Permits (ZEP) and repatriate Zimbabwean nationals.

Despite multiple efforts, Motsoaledi’s endeavours to terminate the ZEP program have faced repeated setbacks, with the courts consistently dismissing his proposals for more merit.

The Minister’s stance on ZEP termination has generated controversy and garnered attention from various stakeholders.

What’s Wrong With VP Chiwenga Being Gay?

“Vice President Chiwenga Addresses Speculation on Personal Bond with President Mnangagwa”

Constantino Chiwenga

By Farai D Hove | In a recent statement, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga addressed speculation surrounding his private relationship with President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, sparking discussions about the possible revelation of a same-sex connection at the highest levels of Zimbabwean politics.

Chiwenga’s assertion, “President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa and I are one. We are bound together. He has my blood and I have his blood. He is part of me and I am part of him,” has left many intrigued about the nature of their connection.

While Chiwenga did not explicitly address the suggestion of a romantic involvement, his words have nevertheless sparked conversations about LGBTQ+ visibility in Zimbabwe. Some interpret his remarks as an opportunity for the LGBTQ+ community to feel encouraged to express themselves openly and without fear.

The message from the vice president could potentially serve as a catalyst for breaking down societal barriers, fostering acceptance, and empowering individuals to embrace their identities. However, it is crucial to note that Chiwenga’s statement may have intended a symbolic or metaphorical meaning, emphasizing a deep personal and professional connection rather than a romantic one.

As discussions unfold, it remains to be seen whether this moment will have a lasting impact on the perception of LGBTQ+ rights in Zimbabwe, a country where such issues have historically been sensitive and met with mixed reactions. The reaction from the public, political figures, and advocacy groups will likely shape the narrative surrounding this revelation and its implications for the broader discourse on diversity and acceptance in the nation.

Kelvin Kaindu Returns To Bosso

Bulawayo giants Highlanders have appointed Kevin Kaindu as their new head coach.

The Zambian gaffer replaces Baltemar Brito after the Bosso hierarchy announced they would not renew the Portuguese mentor’s contract when it expires on December 31, 2023.

“Highlanders Football Club is delighted to announce Kelvin Kaindu as the head coach for the club’s first team,” Highlanders said in a statement.

“Kaindu is not new to the club, having previously played for Highlanders in 1997, before he was entrusted with the Bosso dugout between 2012 and 2014.

“The entire management and the club would like to extend a warm welcome to Kaindu and wish him all the best as he opens yet another chapter with Highlanders Football Club.”- Soccer24 News

Parliament’s Neither A Zone Of Autonomy Or Of Power Especially When It’s Illegal

Parliament is neither a zone of autonomy or of power especially when it’s illegal from inception, and for 46 years, no one has ever taken state power from participating in illegal parliamentarism.

On numerous occasions I havd illustrated that the Zim people have state power already and it is right in their hands not inside the Chinese built Parliament building.

Algeria Fume Over Mahrez Failure To Win Player Of The Year Award

Mutoriro And Addiction

Mwonzora Gets Top Post In Fringe Opposition Coalition

Douglas Mwonzora, the president of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), was elected as the spokesperson for the National Electoral Reforms Agenda (NERA) in Zimbabwe on January 18, 2024. NERA is a coalition of 25 political parties, including some that did not participate in the 2023 elections. Mwonzora explained that NERA aims to advocate for electoral reforms in the country, given Zimbabwe’s history of disputed elections. He said:

“The aim of NERA is to spearhead electoral reforms in the country. Our country has a history of disputed elections, and we need to stop that. Membership of NERA is open to all political parties whether they participated in previous elections or not.”

Mwonzora’s MDC party did not take part in the 2023 elections citing the need to implement electoral reforms. They specifically contested and lost the delimitation exercise, which Mwonzora believed was unfairly biased in favour of the ruling party, Zanu-PF.

Previously, Nelson Chamisa, the current leader of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), the main opposition party, had threatened to boycott elections until electoral reforms were implemented. He has, however, contested in all previous elections.

Electoral reforms were also recommended in the Mothlanthe Commission report, which investigated the August 1, 2018 shooting incident in Harare. During the incident, six civilians protesting against the delayed release of presidential election results were fatally shot by the police and army.

Zimbabwe’s history of disputed elections has strained its relations with Western powers and other countries. These entities now demand electoral reforms as a prerequisite for re-engagement. Notable elections, such as those in 2008, 2018, and 2023, have been marred by allegations of Zanu-PF violence against opposition supporters and claims of election result manipulation in collaboration with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

Some political analysts argue that the ruling party, Zanu-PF, lacks the motivation to implement electoral reforms as the current system benefits them.

There are concerns among some observers that the National Electoral Reforms Agenda in Zimbabwe may not achieve its intended objectives. They speculate that the hidden agenda might be to financially benefit its members rather than bringing about substantial reforms.

Dexter Nduna Disqualified From Contesting For Chegutu West By-Elections

Outspoken former Chegutu West Member of Parliament (MP), Dexter Nduna has had his quest for another bite of the cherry as a parliamentarian dashed after Zanu PF disqualified him from contesting a primary election to choose a party representative.

Zanu PF primary elections will be held this Wednesday, December 13, ahead of by-elections in Chegutu West and Zvimba East, as well as Chinhoyi Wards 9, 10 and 12 on February 3, 2024.

Zanu PF Mashonaland West Provincial Chairman, Mary Mliswa-Chikoka on Sunday presided over a potentially explosive meeting at Rukawo Hotel, where tempers flared following the announcement of Nduna’s disqualification.

Speaking to NewZimbabwe.com on the sidelines of the meeting while mobbed by his supporters, Nduna expressed optimism to reverse the adverse decision reportedly made by the Politburo, the party’s highest authority outside congress.

As a result of Nduna’s jettisoning, aspiring Zanu PF candidates for Chegutu West, whose CVs sailed through vetting include Shaky Timburwa, Brian Chinyama and Timothy Masviba. At the same time, Last Farai Chigavazira pulled out of the race under unclear circumstances.

Meanwhile, Mliswa-Chikoka’s whirlwind Sunday tour took her to Northcot Hall in Mt Hampden, Zvimba East constituency where another by-election is scheduled following the recall of the surprise winner in the August 23 election, Oliver Mutasa of Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC).

Former Zvimba East legislator, Francis Mukwangwarirwa, who narrowly lost the predominantly rural constituency in the just-ended August 23 and 24 harmonised elections, is facing a stiff challenge from three others namely, Gibson Chihaka, Antony Magama Dube and Kudakwashe Decide Mananzva who also wishes to replace the recalled CCC MP.

In Chinhoyi Ward 9, Edward Besu squares off against Job Mavata in a bid to get the right to replace a recalled CCC councillor.

Godfrey Muzhandamuri, Angeline Rupere, West Chinembiri and Elias Mhako battle to win the right to represent the revolutionary party in Chinhoyi Ward 10. The ward seat became vacant following the recall of CCC’s Lovemore Kurwakumire by self-styled interim secretary general Sengezo Tshabangu.

Zanu PF Youth League officials Ketty Chanetsa, Patrick Nyamayaro, Innocent Simba Chakaodza and Viola Moyo face off in Ward 12, which fell vacant following the recall of former Chinhoyi mayor Dyke Makumbi.

Addressing Zanu PF supporters, Mliswa-Chikoka implored candidates to put aside their differences and rally behind winners of impending primary elections to be held Wednesday.

“It would be prudent to agree on the best candidate and avoid divisive primaries, but just because Zanu PF is a democratic party, where there is more than one aspiring candidate there would be primaries. The main goal is to reclaim seats from CCC which is currently in disarray.

“We must choose candidates who possess the stamina and political clout to win the electorate’s hearts despite their financial standing. The best candidate is not always the one splashing cash…,” said Mliswa-Chikoka.

Ivy Kombo, hubby trials kickstarts

The trial of gospel musician Ivy Kombo and her husband Admire Kasi who allegedly fraudulently acquired fake certificates to practise law in Zimbabwe started yesterday before Harare magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka.

The couple is being represented by Shylet Mapanje and Admire Rubaya.

Prosecutor Anesu Chirenje led the first witness, Joe Zimba, who is the finance and administrative manager at the Council for Legal Education. Zimba said the third accused person Huggins Duri, was the superior at the organisation, when the alleged crime was committed.

He told the court that Duri, whose duties included creating contracts and organising meetings for the Council of Legal Education, was responsible for sending the list of certificates for printing at Fidelity Printers.

The State tendered the application form which is alleged to have been submitted by Kombo as evidence before the court.

Zimba told the court that the couple’s names did not appear on the consolidated schedule list for August 2022 which carries names of students who sat for the examination. Zimba said if the name did not appear on the list, it was an indication that one did not write the examination.

He noted that if one passed the examination, it would be highlighted on the schedule list.

The court heard that Kombo and Kasi’s names did not appear on the students’ collection list for those who successfully passed the examination, indicating that they did not pass the examination.

Zimba denied that one can obtain a certificate if their name does not appear on the certificate collection schedule. He expressed ignorance over where Kombo and Kasi obtained their certificates to practise law.

Kombo is denying committing the alleged offence in her individual capacity or in connivance with anyone in the manner alleged or at all.

The defence argues that Kombo was exempted from writing the examination since she had a masters in law degree acquired at a university in 2014. Rubaya said at the time Kombo engaged the Council for Legal Education there were no conversion examinations for students who had a masters in law degree.

He further argued that Kombo was advised by a Council for Legal Education official, only identified as Ncube, that she was eligible for exemption since she was a holder of masters in law degree.

Dexter Nduna shown middle finger

“I am told that my CV (curriculum vitae) for aspiring MP, so that l go into the primary election, was removed. So l have been told to appeal,” said former lawmaker.

Questioned what could have precipitated the removal of his credentials, Nduna said he was equally in the dark.

“I have not been told. Be that as it may, l am still going to stand,” he vowed.

As a result of Nduna’s jettisoning, aspiring Zanu-PF candidates for Chegutu West, whose CVs sailed through vetting include Shaky Timburwa, Brian Chinyama and Timothy Masviba. At the same time, Last Farai Chigavazira pulled out of the race under unclear circumstances.

The ill-fated elections are a sham as evidenced by an unprecedented low voter turnout and unusually high number of spoilt ballots both signalling the people’s anger and growing impatience with the regime’s shenanigans.”

BREAKING- Another CCC member arrested

By A Correspondent- Opposition CCC member Munyaradzi Kufahakutizwi has been arrested for malicious damage to property.

This was revealed by Gift Ostallos Siziba in a tweet where he said:

“Hon @KufaMunya has been arrested over Trumped Up Charges of Assault and Malicipus damage to property. This is the continuation of the crack down and closure of democratic space in Zimbabwe.”

CCC in crunch indaba

By A Correspondent- The Citizens Coalitions for Change (CCC) leadership is meeting today to deliberate on the way forward after the party was barred from participating in Saturday’s by-election which saw Zanu PF winning seven of the vacant nine National Assembly seats.

Zimbabweans Astonished By Mthuli Ncube’s Dubious Award

Many Zimbabweans have reacted with astonishment after Mthuli Ncube was named “Best African Finance Minister of the Year” despite the country’s economic turmoil.

One user on X, formerly known as Twitter, said the award was “akin to applauding a captain for steering a ship straight into an iceberg”.

Another user called it “the greatest joke of the decade”.

Zimbabwe’s unemployment rate is as high as 85%, economists say.

Up to 80% of transactions are carried out in US dollars because of a lack of confidence in the local currency, according to the Reuters news agency.

Reputation Poll International – an organisation that says it “manages reputations” – gave Mr Ncube the award on Sunday.

The minister, who was appointed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in 2018, told the state-controlled Herald newspaper that he was delighted to receive the honour.

He said it was recognition of the work he and the Treasury team had done that has “spearheaded the transformation of the economy”.

However, activist Hopewell Chin’ono said on X that the award was an “insult” to Zimbabweans.

He expressed incredulity especially after Mr Ncube’s recent budget, that Mr Chin’ono dubbed “the most anti-people national budget that Zimbabwe has ever had”.

This will see an increase in taxes, and hike passport fees to $200 (£160), up from $120, making it the most expensive in the region.

Mr Chin’ono added that Mr Ncube was “presiding over the worst economy in the world” brought about by his “misguided and corrupt policies”.

Zimbabwe’s economy has been struggling for decades. The Zimbabwe dollar was withdrawn in 2009 after inflation reached a staggering 231 million per cent, meaning prices were changing by the hour.

Critics blame mismanagement by the ruling Zanu-PF party, first under Robert Mugabe and then Mr Mnangagwa. They have in turn blamed sanctions imposed by Western countries.

Over the weekend Zimbabwe held controversial by-elections after MPs from the main opposition party, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), were recalled.

Zanu-PF candidates won seven of the nine by-elections but remains three seats short of the two-thirds parliamentary majority required to change the constitution.

Man drags 2nd wife to court over upkeep

A Harare man has approached the civil courts in Harare demanding that his second wife should pay 50% of their household expenses.

Norman Takawira told Harare magistrate Ayanda Dlamini that his wife Chipo Choga was causing chaos in their polygamous relationship after she claimed maintenance last month which prompted his first wife to plan claiming the same payment.

“We have been living peacefully as I provided for both my wives and four children, but the respondent decided to drag me to court claiming US$60 in maintenance,” Takawira told the court.

“My other wife has also been hinting that she will also approach the courts and claim her own share of maintenance since I am paying (the other wife),” Takawira said.

He told the magistrate that because he had since lost his means of income, his second wife should chip in caring for the family.

“She is the one who is currently employed among the three of us in my family. She earns a good salary which comprises of a US$ component and RTGS (Zimdollar),” he submitted.

Takawira accused the respondent of lying about her income.

“She was not honest about her salary the last time we appeared in court. She can afford to contribute towards the families’ upkeep more than me,” he said.

Takawira pleaded that the US$60 maintenance he was ordered to pay in November be revised downwards.

Choga opposed her husband’s application arguing that he was seeking to avoid paying maintenance.

“I am tired of him because we were in here two weeks ago, but he is already dragging me back to court,” Choga said.

Dlamini dismissed Takawira’s application for the reduction in maintenance.

Magaya reveals Chitungwiza plans

By A Correspondent- After the successful commissioning of his Heart Stadium by President Emmerson in Waterfalls on Sunday, PHD leader Walter Magaya now wants to turn his attention on constructing similar facilities in his hometown Chitungwiza.

The 5 000-seater facility was officially opened at a ceremony that was attended by top government officials, ambassadors, businesspeople, Premier Soccer League bosses, coaches, and past and present footballers, among others.

Magaya revealed that he sold four houses, two luxury cars and 64 residential stands to fund the Heart Stadium project, a facility replete with unique features including trendy dugouts, world class dressing rooms equipped with 100-inch television sets and other modern electronic devices, VIP enclosure and directors/corporate boxes.

It also has a sophisticated suspended playing pitch.

Magaya said he was humbled by the support he received on Sunday, although he expressed disappointment that the Zifa Normalisation Committee, who are the custodian of local football, decided to stay away despite being formally invited.

Speaking to the media after the ceremony on Sunday, Magaya said he wants to replicate the Heart Stadium success elsewhere, including in Chitungwiza, where he wants to construct at least two stadiums to help talented young footballers in the dormitory town realise their dreams.

“I was a very talented footballer growing up, and I featured for the Under-13 national team, but could not realise my potential in football because we didn’t have facilities. I don’t want the same to happen to the current and future generations,” Magaya said.

A few years ago, Magaya proposed a deal to the Chitungwiza Town Council to renovate Chibuku Stadium which he wanted to use as a home ground for his Premiership side Yadah FC.

However, council officials said they were not ready to give him a long lease, which he wanted, and the deal collapsed.

But he is not ready to give up, and on Sunday, Magaya appealed to Mnangagwa to intervene.

“Your Excellency, we have approached different city councils, looking first at Chitungwiza where I come from. I wish to construct a stadium in Chitungwiza and replicate the same that is here, at Chibuku Stadium. I have engaged the Chitungwiza City Council, but the response is not yet favourable. It is my prayer that I assist Chitungwiza. If they give me a greenlight today, I will start work the next day,” he said.

Magaya went back for another meeting with the Chitungwiza City Council to try and revive the deal, the third time he had such a meeting, but still found no joy.

“I want to build two stadiums there. I have the stadium plans, and everything is ready, but they (councillors) are slow. They don’t react, I don’t know why. I want to renovate Chibuku Stadium, I want to construct a stadium in Zengeza. I’m ready, I have guys behind the scenes who are ready to sponsor. I have big plans for Chitungwiza, I want to build that city. I went there four years ago; I went there again two years ago so this was my third visit there. I met the full council and I told them I want to build Chitungwiza and bring it to life. There are a million people in Chitungwiza and these guys need help, so my dream is to build them stadiums.”

Border jumpers nabbed in Limpopo

Police in Limpopo said they have intercepted a convoy of motor vehicles which were travelling from Zimbabwe and heading to Polokwane, carrying more than 100 undocumented foreign nationals.

Limpopo police spokesperson, Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said the vehicles were allegedly loaded with 133 undocumented children, women and men before they were intercepted by the Limpopo provincial tracking team.

“The police operationalised on information received and managed to locate 11 motor vehicles travelling along the N1 North bypass gateway, outside Polokwane,” said Mashaba.

“The vehicles were tactically approached, stopped and searched and found to be overloaded with 73 underage children between six months and 17 years, including 60 adults,” he said.

“The passengers could not provide the legal documentations for being in the country and were placed under arrest on the spot. Most of the passengers could not establish where they were going and were suspected to be victims of human trafficking.”

Mashaba said police also seized eight Toyota Quantum vehicles, two Toyota Hilux GD6 double cab bakkies, with canopies, and a Toyota Fortuner.

“The police and other stakeholders comprising the Department of Home Affairs and Department of Social Development have been summoned to process the undocumented foreign nationals and suspected victims of human trafficking. Police investigations are continuing,” he said.

Last week, IOL reported that two Zimbabwean nationals were arrested over human trafficking charges after being found transporting 14 children to Cape Town. The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, also known as the Hawks, said the duo could face additional charges as the investigation continues.

Tafadzwa Nakakurwa, 46, and his 41-year-old alleged accomplice, Beulla Maruza, appeared in the Kimberley District Court on Thursday.

Hawks spokesperson, Tebogo Thebe said the two were seen boarding a bus, Big Sky Intercity Coaches, owned by Intercape, in Midrand with the undocumented children, aged between six and 14.

“Police were alerted to the incident by a vigilant passenger in a bus from Midrand in Johannesburg en route to Cape Town. The bus made a stopover in Kimberley. The passenger called an off-duty police officer who, in turn, alerted the multi-disciplinary team.

“The suspects claimed to be taking the kids to their parents in Cape Town, information the police could not verify, leading to the arrests.

“The victims (eight boys and six girls) were inspected and looked dirty and without any additional clothes or bags. They were also hungry. A Provincial Trafficking in Persons rapid response team led by the Department of Social Development was contacted to assist with placing the kids at a place of safety and providing food,” said Thebe.

Zimbabwe Prisons Unlawfully Detaining Jacob Ngarivhume

By A Correspondent| The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services yesterday failed to release opposition leader Jacob Ngarivhume despite the High Court quashing both his conviction and sentence.

According to Transform Zimbabwe, the prison officer at Harare Central prisons told them that a warrant of liberation had not been issued by the High Court hence his continued detention.

Ngarivhume, the leader of Transform Zimbabwe political party, had been serving an effective three years in prison after he was convicted on Friday 28 April 2023 by Harare Magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka for incitement as defined in section 187(1)(b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act and sentenced to serve four years in prison. Magistrate Chakanyuka then suspended one year, which meant that the Transform Zimbabwe political party leader, would serve an effective three years in prison.

Ngarivhume’s conviction and sentence came after he was arrested by Zimbabwe Republic Police officers on Monday 20 July 2020 and charged with incitement to participate in a gathering with intent to promote public violence, breaches of peace or bigotry as defined in section 187(1)(b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act as read with section 37(1)(a)(i) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

The opposition political party leader was also charged with incitement to commit public violence as defined in section 187(1)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act as read with section 36(1)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

During trial before Magistrate Chakanyuka, prosecutors alleged that Ngarivhume incited people to revolt against President Mnangagwa’s administration during some countrywide anti-government protests called for on 31 July 2020.

In convicting Ngarivhume, Magistrate Chakanyuka ruled that the opposition political party leader tweeted a message that was inciting and reasonably foreseeing the possibility that the public could be incited by that.

But on Monday 11 December 2023, High Court Judges Justice Pisirayi Kwenda and Justice Fatima Maxwell upheld Ngarivhume’s appeal and set aside his conviction and sentence.

Justice Kwenda and Maxwell ruled that Magistrate Chakanyuka had grossly erred and misdirected herself when she convicted and sentenced Ngarivhume to serve jail time.

Ngarivhume becomes the latest person to be exonerated by the High Court after being arrested and put on trial on charges related to freedom of expression and freedom to petition and demonstrate after former Zengeza West legislator Hon. Job Sikhala, award winning and renowned novelist, filmmaker and
cultural activist, Tsitsi DangarembgaParere Kanyenzura, the Bishop of Mirirai Jehovha Apostolic Church and some of his church congregants, constitutional lawyer and opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change legislator for Mt Pleasant Advocate Fadzayi Mahere and freelance journalist Hopewell Chin’ono among others.

Mahere, who represents Mt Pleasant in Parliament, explained her decision on X (formerly Twitter), stating that a withdrawal by CCC legislators could potentially grant ZANU PF the leeway to amend the Constitution unchecked, potentially leading to the establishment of a one-party state.

“I can assure you that if the @CCCZimbabwe’s Citizens’ National Assembly resolves that we should withdraw from Parliament, we will,” Mahere affirmed in her statement.

This announcement stands in contrast to the sentiments expressed by Darlington Chigumbu, the CCC Member of Parliament for Budiriro. Chigumbu voiced his willingness to quit Parliament, emphasizing his concern for CCC leader Nelson Chamisa, stating that he does not want to see Chamisa accused of actions he has not committed.

The backdrop of these decisions is the tumultuous political landscape since the November 2017 coup, with accusations against Mnangagwa’s party ranging from changing election results arbitrarily to engaging in outrageous conduct.

Mahere’s remarks come as Chigumbu broke ranks to express readiness to leave Parliament.

“President @nelsonchamisa is one person I know who listens to other people’s views.

“If the electorate is to be angry with anyone regarding tomfoolery happening at Parly then that anger must be directed to US the MPs not the president. It is us who must be clear and leave Parly,” wrote Chigumbu.

As discussions within the CCC unfold, the contrasting perspectives within the party highlight the complex considerations surrounding the decision to either remain in or withdraw from Mnangagwa’s parliament.

The Illusion of Parliamentary Power: Examining ZANU PF’s Unchecked Authority in Zimbabwe | ANALYSIS

In the face of mounting challenges to the democratic process in Zimbabwe, the claim that parliamentary presence can curtail ZANU PF’s stranglehold on power appears increasingly dubious. Fadzayi Mahere contends that staying in Parliament can prevent constitutional amendments, yet a closer examination of recent events paints a starkly different picture.

The recall of elected MPs, orchestrated by ZANU PF, exemplifies the party’s ability to manipulate parliamentary dynamics to its advantage. Despite Mahere’s optimism, the party has successfully implemented outrageous changes, such as the recalls, undermining the efficacy of parliamentary resistance.

Historical precedents reveal a troubling pattern of ZANU PF’s blatant disregard for parliamentary oversight. The 2017 removal of President Robert Mugabe through military intervention and the subsequent 2018 overthrow of Nelson Chamisa’s government underscore the party’s willingness to circumvent established democratic processes.

The tragic events of January 2019, where ZANU PF responded to fuel price protests with violence, killing 17 and subjecting over 50 women to rape, further highlight the party’s ability to act with impunity. Despite parliamentary pressure, ZANU PF proceeded without restraint, calling into question the efficacy of parliamentary influence in halting such atrocities.

The controversial 2023 elections, marked by ZANU PF’s use of army personnel within the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to manipulate results, serve as another stark example of the party’s unhindered actions. The ability to alter election outcomes and distribute parliamentary seats with impunity undermines any claim that parliamentary presence alone can act as a deterrent.

In light of this troubling history, Mahere’s assertion that her presence in Parliament can prevent ZANU PF from changing the Constitution seems increasingly unfounded. The stark reality is that ZANU PF’s actions have consistently demonstrated an ability to operate beyond the reach of parliamentary influence, raising critical questions about the effectiveness of the current democratic framework in Zimbabwe.

Tshabangu Sneaks Sandra Ndebele Into Bulawayo Council

By James Gwati- Self-imposed CCC interim secretary general, Sengezo Tshabangu, has assisted yester-year musician and Zanu PF activist Sandra Ndebele in getting into the Bulawayo City council.

Ndebele was elected Councillor for Ward 20 in Bulawayo during the by-elections caused by Tshabangu and held on 9 December 2023.

The Zanu PF councillor had previously lost to Simbarashe Dube of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) during the general elections in August 2023.

Ndebele received 1,106 votes in the by-election, defeating Dube, who received 782 votes.

Other candidates, Michael Gumede of CCC and Nomagugu Ndlovu of ZAPU received 57 and 11 votes respectively.

These by-elections were held to fill vacant positions after Sengezo Tshabangu, the self-proclaimed interim secretary general of CCC, recalled several CCC officials from Parliament and local governments, claiming that they no longer belonged to the party.
More by-elections are scheduled to take place on 3 February 2024.

ZANU PF Celebrates Hu-Bangu Hwa Tshabangu Election Result

In a jubilant celebration, ZANU PF marked its triumph in the condemned Tshabangu by-elections, securing seven out of nine parliamentary seats left vacant by recalls initiated by the CCC. The party’s Secretary General, Dr Obert Mpofu, dismissed opposition claims of orchestrating the recalls to secure a two-thirds majority, labeling them as “foolish talk.”

Dr Mpofu asserted, “We didn’t cause these by-elections. Our duty was to react to calls for democracy after CCC’s recalls due to their in-house wars, which we have nothing to do with.” He emphasized that any constitutional amendments would follow due parliamentary and transparent processes.

The by-elections held in Bulawayo, Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, and Harare’s Mabvuku-Tafara resulted in ZANU PF winning seven seats, reinforcing its position in Parliament. CCC’s interim secretary general, Mr Sengezo Tshabangu, instigated the recalls, alleging that the concerned legislators had ceased to be members of their party.

ZANU PF’s victories included Bulawayo South, Cowdray Park, Nketa, Binga North, Lupane East, and Beitbridge West. Notably, the party increased its figures in Matabeleland North from the previous August elections.

With these wins, ZANU PF now holds 184 legislators out of 280, anticipating further gains in the upcoming February 3, 2024 by-elections in Pelandaba-Tshabalala, Goromonzi South, Chegutu West, Mkoba North, Seke, and Zvimba East.- Agencies

LEAKED AUDIO: Mnangagwa Likely Took How Much Bribe for Russia To Donate Fertilizer?

**Investigating Potential Bribery Scandal: $20 Million Donation Raises Eyebrows**

By Farai D Hove | Recent revelations from a leaked audio recording of a ZANU PF official, Simbarashe Marumahoko, alleging that Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa demanded a $20 million bribe in 2019 have resurfaced, creating a stir in light of a $20 million donation of fertilisers from Russia’s Uralchem Group.

Marumahoko’s accusations, made nearly three years ago, have remained unaddressed by Mnangagwa’s spokesperson, George Charamba. The official claimed that Mnangagwa sought the bribe as a precondition for accepting a previous $20 million donation of food aid.

The current fertiliser donation from Uralchem Group, announced at the Russia-Africa Summit, raises questions about potential parallels between the two instances. The timing and amount are uncannily similar, prompting speculation about the motives behind the Russian company’s generous contribution.

While there is no direct evidence linking the fertilizer donation to any illicit activities, the circumstantial nature of the allegations from 2019 has ignited suspicions. As Zimbabwe faces increasing agricultural demands, the fertiliser shipment from Uralchem Group aligns with the nation’s efforts to bolster food security.

President Mnangagwa expressed gratitude for the Russian donation during the summit, emphasizing the strong ties between the two nations. However, the historical context of the alleged bribery demand adds a layer of complexity to the situation.

The Uralchem Group, through its Head of Special Public Relations Projects, Emin Bayramov, clarified that the fertiliser shipment is part of their collaboration with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). The company aims to address global hunger and support sustainable agriculture, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goal Number 2.

As the fertilisers make their way to Zimbabwe, facilitated by WFP and UNCTAD-led efforts, the potential bribery scandal from 2019 hangs in the background, prompting calls for transparency and accountability. With Mnangagwa’s spokesperson yet to respond to the historic allegations, the spotlight remains on the intersection of humanitarian aid and political controversy.

What Is Drug Addiction?

Source : Fight Against Drug Addiction

  1. Loss of control: The drug user is unable to predict what will happen when he uses the substance. One day he may be able to stop after one drink, or after one line of cocaine; the next day he may not be able to control his use at all.
  2. Compulsive preoccupation: The drug addict spends a great deal of time thinking about the substance he consumes.
  3. Continued use despite negative consequences: If drinking or drug use causes problems but the individual still continues to consume the substancet, the individual is tempting drug addiction or is already addicted. The person has lost voluntary control over the use of that substance.

A nonuser or casual alcohol/drug user may have difficulty understanding why drug addicts dont just stop.

Use and abuse of psychoactive (mood-altering) drugs seem to be voluntary; drug addiction seems to be characterized by involuntary, compulsive use. In most cases, drug addicts dont stop because they are addicted, they just cannot stop on their own.

The drug addict lies to family and friends, things start missing and disappearing around the house.

The dishonesty conveyed is proportionate to the severity of the drug addiction, but these things are all apparent to the person living with a drug addict in their life.

Our experiences show that the drug addict or alcoholic is usually an intelligent and most often creative person with much hope for the future, which only adds to the calamity of their downfall. As the drug addict slips down the drug addiction spiral, their loved ones try to deny the problem exists, sometimes for years. This is a part of the vicious cycle of addiction.

Avoid Mutoriro

Zahara Has Passed Away

By Dorrothy Moyo | A government minister has announced that 35 year old singer, Zahara has died.

The Loliwe hitmaker was admitted in hospital with liver complications two weeks ago. A source close to the family said the singer passed away just before 9pm on Monday night. She was a humble, lovely and larger than life character with deep rooted personal issues, promoter Ezra Tshisa Sibanda said in a tweet.

The award-winning singer and songwriter, Bulelwa Mkutukana, known by her stage name Zahara. Born on November 9, 1987, Zahara is currently in hospital battling a liver condition.

Zahara’s musical journey began when she signed a record deal with TS Records, leading to the release of her debut album, “Loliwe,” in 2011, which achieved double platinum status. The success continued with her second album, “Phendula” (2013), featuring chart-topping singles like “Phendula,” “Impilo,” and “Stay.”

The talented artist’s third album, “Country Girl” (2015), reached triple platinum status. Following her departure from TS Records, Zahara signed with Warner Music, releasing her best-selling album, “Mgodi” (2017), which was certified platinum.

Her most recent album, “Nqaba Yam” (2021), not only peaked at number 1 on iTunes but showcased her enduring impact on the music industry. Zahara’s accolades include an impressive 17 South African Music Awards, three Metro FM Awards, and a Nigeria Entertainment Award.

Zahara’s influence extends beyond music; she was recognized on the BBC’s 2020 list of 100 Women and served as a guest judge on the seventeenth season of Idols South Africa in 2021.
