Zanu PF Women’s Commissar Declares War On Wadyajena

By A Correspondent| Zanu PF Women’s National Political Commissar Senator Maybe Mbowa has declared war on Gokwe Nembudziya legislator Justice Mayor Wadyajena ahead of the party primary elections rerun.

Zanu PF politiburo ordered a rerun of primary elections in areas that experienced violence and claims of rigging including Gokwe North where Wadyajena was able to prove manipulation of outcome in favour of Flora Bhuka.

In a circulating audio she shared in a Zanu PF group, Senator Mbowa revealed a plan to block Wadyajena from accessing Nembudziya ahead of the primary elections re-run as announced by the party’s politiburo meeting.

“Form a team that will be positioned at Kuwirirana, another one at Mutora, even if Mai Bhuka does not campaign, people must be campaigned,” she said.

She also revealed a plan to block Wadyajena from entering Gokwe including chasing his polling agents in what could result in another disputed primary election.

“Even if it means people block him at Sanyati, the better, if it means his polling agents are chased away…” added Mbowa.

She accused Wadyajena of being imposed by Zanu PF top chefs while inciting the people of Gokwe North that they should never allow the youthful politician of not developing the area.

“Some big fish with interests want him back, he is like an undersized pant that is being forced on us, “We are faced with a python, with an evil one…,” added Mbowa.

She incited youths to unleash violence on Wadyajena as a way of stopping him from winning the primary elections rerun.

Harare Zanu PF Deputy Chair In Land Grab Storm

Reports filtering in are that Harare Province Zanu PF vice chairman Ephraim Fundukwa has been using the party’s name to grab land across the province.

Sources who spoke to this publication said Fundukwa allegedly got land from the council disguising that it was mearnt for the ruling party benefit when it was for his personal gain.

“Fundukwa used the name of the party to seek permission to built vending shops from Council There are about 600. Out of the 600, a number of 360 are his. The others he gave to his few friends. He sells one at a cost of US$1500, but to those who want to rent its US$300,” revealed the source.

He is accused of also parceling out land around the first Masvingo Highway Tollgate.

“Fundukwa took land near Tollgate and put people there, getting money ranging from US$100 to US$6000. That land was supposed to be used to allocate people from Hopley who were affected by the Mbudzi Interchange construction,” added the source.

The Zanu PF Harare province vice chairperson was also in the controversial pegging of land in the Granville Cemetery.

Election Dates Revealed

By A Correspondent- This year’s harmonised elections will be held between July 26 and August 26, Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi has revealed.

President Mnangagwa is expected to proclaim the election date soon.

Preparations for the polls are, however, at an advanced stage.

“The preparatory work for holding this year’s harmonised general election is at an advanced stage,” Minister Ziyambi told The Sunday Mail.

“The next step that awaits the electorate is the announcement of the election date, through a proclamation by His Excellency, President Mnangagwa.

“It is anticipated that the elections will be held between July 26 and August 26.

“This is in line with Section 158 (1) of the Constitution, which provides that a general election must be held so that polling takes place not more than 30 days before the expiry of the five-year period upon swearing in of the President and/or Parliament.

“Consequently, this will result in the dissolution of Parliament at midnight on the day before the first polling day.”

The last harmonised elections were held on July 30, 2018, with President Mnangagwa being sworn into office on August 26.

Treasury, Minister Ziyambi said, was presently mobilising additional resources for the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), which has tabled a $130 billion budget.

“As you are aware, the Government has budgeted $76 billion for the 2023 harmonised elections, to which $53 billion is earmarked for the elections,” he added.

“We urge ZEC to utilise the available resources set aside for it in order to ease the burden on the taxpayer. With that said, Treasury will try its best to mobilise adequate resources for the process.”

The Government, he said, was fast-tracking the enactment of the Electoral Amendment Bill before dissolution of Parliament.

The Bill sets out to, among other things, stop the use of driver’s licences as proof of identity for purposes of voting.

It also provides for the election of 10 youths into the National Assembly, in line with Section 124(1)(c) of the Constitution, as amended in 2021.

Further, the Bill seeks to extend the women’s quota in the National Assembly, under a party-list system, while also providing for the election of women on a party list to provincial councils and local authorities, in terms of Section 277(4) of the Constitution.

Currently, the Bill is at the second reading stage in the National Assembly.

After passing through the National Assembly, it will be transmitted to the Senate for debate.

“It is my hope that the Senate stage shall be swift but thorough,” said Minister Ziyambi.

After completion of all parliamentary processes, the Bill will be placed before the President for his assent.

“The Electoral Amendment Bill, as a Bill of paramount significance in light of the upcoming harmonised election, is receiving the due urgency it deserves.”

Electoral reforms

Minister Ziyambi said Government was satisfied with the electoral reforms since the last polls.

It is believed that platforms such as the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD), which brings together all political parties that participated in the 2018 elections, have enhanced participation of a cross-section of stakeholders in the reform process.

“Furthermore, citizens have also been accorded a voice through parliamentary consultations, despite the fact that their elected officials debate constantly the electoral reforms that affect their political rights,” he added.

“In addition, there has been a lot of civic society contributions that have also been taken on board.

“Dialogue has been held among POLAD, ZESN (Zimbabwe Election Support Network), ERC (Election Resource Centre) and ZLHR (Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights) on a possible laymen’s bill on elections.”

Government, he added, has also engaged the European Union in a political dialogue “that has had issues around electoral reforms considered”.

“Zimbabwe’s ratification of the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance testifies to the strengthening of our electoral process beyond domestic standards of a truly democratic electoral process,” said Minister Ziyambi.

Observers

Government will be guided by the Electoral Act when inviting and accrediting election observer missions.

In particular, Section 40I (1) of the Act provides that an application for accreditation as an observer must be made no later than the fourth day before the first day of polling for the election of the President, constituency members of the National Assembly or councillors.

“Our law does not really require invitation and places no limitations to this end; rather, it opens up the electoral space to all.”

Last week, ZEC concluded the final national biometric voter registration.

Man Murdered Over Infidelity

By A Correspondent- A 68 year old Maphisa District man was allegedly killed by two men after being accused of having an affair with one of the suspect’s wives.

According to Police, they have since arrested Member Nyathi (62) and Bruce Ngwenya (22) following the death of Robert Maphosa.

“ZRP Maphisa arrested Member Nyathi (62) and Bruce Ngwenya (22) for a case of murder in which they fatally attacked Robert Maphosa (68), accusing him of having an affair with Member Nyathi’s wife. The suspects allegedly struck the victim all over the body with axes before burying the body in a shallow grave in a sorghum field to conceal the offence,” police confirmed on Twitter.

Stranger Than Fiction- Body Parts Retrieved 41yrs Later

By A Correspondent- The popularly used ‘stranger than fiction’ phrase was brought to life this afternoon in Mutasa after the alleged private parts of a man who was allegedly murdered for rituals 41 years ago were retrieved from under a disused shop.

When The Manica Post news crew arrived, hundreds of villagers in Maondo Village and other neighbouring villages under Chief Mutasa had come out in their numbers to witness the retrieval of private parts, eyes and tongue which were alleged to the late Tukai Kujeke’s from the Dangarembwa shop at Maondo Business Centre.

Kujeke was allegedly murdered in 1982 and buried with missing body parts.

It is alleged that he was murdered by Oneday Manyarara and James Dangarembwa, who are both now late and whose families appeased Kujeke’s avenging spirit with seven cattle each this afternoon.

Led by Nyanga traditional healer, Sekuru Shingirai Mukotsanjera, the retrieval team found the parts in a small calabash, about two metres deep just outside the Dangarembwa shop.

Afterwards, the body parts were taken to the cemetery where Kujeke’s body was buried and were also placed in his grave to rest with his body.

The shop, which has been unused for years, is alleged to have been haunted by the late Kujeke’s spirit since the 80s.

Zimbabwe Red Cross Training Nurse Aides Nationally

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Red Cross is training nurse aides across the country on basic first aid and related primary health care skills.

Mr Elias Hwenga, Zimbabwe Red Cross Secretary General, said they have trained 90 Adolescent Girls and Young Women on basic nursing skills in Beitbridge, Mangwe and Gwanda districts in Matabeleland South.

He said the program was being supported by the Zimbabwe Health Interventions through the DREAMS (Determined: Resilient: Empowered: AIDS-free: Mentored and Safe) RISE Program.

In a speech read on his behalf by Mr Stambuli Kim, the organisation’s communication manager, during the graduation of 20 nurse aides in Beitbridge, Hwenga said:

Through this partnership, we have managed to train 20 Nurse Aides in Mangwe District, 20 in Gwanda and another 30 who are in the final stages of the nurse aide program. We have also managed to populate the importance of First Aid in different spheres which include schools, workplaces and even for ordinary citizens.

The accredited nurses, now with CPR certifications, will bring knowledge and new skills to help the community when needed.

Acquisition of Basic First Aid skills is fast becoming a global trend after the realisation that lives were being lost needlessly when there are ways and means to save these precious lives.
Zimbabwe Red Cross also said the nurse aides underwent all the stages of training as well as the prerequisite three months’ attachment at various health facilities.
In summary, Hwenga mentioned that:
i). graduating nurse aides were taught first aid skills to help in various medical situations as a humanitarian act.
i). properly administering first aid can prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed and allow them to focus on more serious cases.
iii). the training also helps community members to confidently assess their surroundings during disasters, promoting a sense of safety and well-being.
iv) first aid is a lifesaving skill that everyone should have basic knowledge of since emergencies are a daily occurrence.
Sister Monica Mbawa, the Nursing Officer in Beitbridge District, explained that the DREAMS program aims to equip adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) with essential skills such as vocational training, work readiness, soft skills, and technical skills. The program follows a positive youth development framework.

“Indications are that the accident happened when a minibus taxi overtook unsafely on a barrier line and collided head-on with a light delivery vehicle.

“Five men and three women died as a result of the accident while eight other people who sustained injuries were transported to nearby health facilities for medical attention”.

More than 40 Zimbabweans have died on the N1 Highway due to road accidents in the last 12 months.

Armed Robbers Run Out Of Luck 6 Months Later

Five alleged armed robbers have been arrested after being on run for over 6 months. They are believed to have been part of the group that allegedly raided Koala Estate in the manner of a movie last September and made off with $30,000 before committing a number of other armed robberies.
The suspects at Koala also managed to escape with a Toyota Land Cruiser, an Isuzu car, cellphones, Tatenda Madzudzo (28), Munyaradzi Gumbo (42) and Happiness Mutsago (41).

Two of the defendants, Mukavi and Charles Muzvidzwa, are suspected of kidnapping a complainant in February of this year after they had rented his truck from N Richards Wholesale in Tynwald.

Horror As Teenager Stabs Colleague To Death

THE Zimbabwe Republic Police(ZRP) is investigating a bullying incident that turned fatal at Churu Farm in Glenview, Harare on Monday.

In a statement on their Twitter page, the ZRP said the incident occurred on the 27th of this month after a student aged 17 allegedly stabbed a fellow 17-year-old student with a broken glass.

The case comes after a similar incident in Bulawayo last month when a Form four student was fatally stabbed in a suspected turf war involving boys from Hamilton and Founders High Schools.

Another bullying incident was reported in Harare last month after two Churchill Boys High School students appeared on social media being forced to slap each other while tied with their shoelaces.

There are fears that cases of bullying are driven by drug and substance abuse among youths. – ZBC News

Freedom Of City Status For Emmerson Mnangagwa

Thousands of people gathered at Gweru Civic Centre to witness the official conferment of the Freedom of the City to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The council later went into session, following the President’s admission as an Honorary Freeman of the City of Gweru.

The President was applauded for his statesmanship exhibited in successfully maintaining unity, peace and prosperity in the country and for his efforts in re-engagement and amalgamation within the international community of nations.

The council also commended the excellent and visionary leadership by President Mnangagwa as shown by his efforts to improve the lives of citizens of Zimbabwe underpinned by Vision 2030 which seeks to eradicate poverty and endeavours to achieve an upper middle-income economy.

Earlier, President Mnangagwa signed the Visitors’ book in the presence of His Worship, the Mayor of the City of Gweru, Councillor Hamutendi Kombayi.

The Freedom of the City status is a high civic honour given to prominent people for their contribution towards the development of a city.

The honour is given through a council resolution and allows the individual to enjoy certain liberties and might be exempted from certain by-laws of the city.

This comes after the city of Gweru went through massive transformation after getting devolution funds from central government.

This includes acquisition of refuse trucks and water treatment chemicals.

The government has also availed funding for the procurement of water pumps at Gwenhoro Pump Station in a move that eventually eased perennial water shortages in the City of Progress.

A number of health institutions also got a major facelift through devolution funds and these include the Ascot Infectious Disease Centre and Iven Beerhall, which was turned into a council clinic.

Government has also taken over the rehabilitation of several roads in the city of Gweru after the local authority had failed to deliver its mandate.- ZBC News

Avoid Too Much Salt

A first-of-its-kind World Health Organization (WHO) Global report on sodium intake reduction shows that the world is off-track to achieve its global target of reducing sodium intake by 30% by 2025.

Sodium, an essential nutrient, increases the risk of heart disease, stroke and premature death when eaten in excess. The main source of sodium is table salt (sodium chloride), but it is also contained in other condiments such as sodium glutamate. The report shows that only 5% of WHO Member States are protected by mandatory and comprehensive sodium reduction policies and 73% of WHO Member States lack full range of implementation of such policies.

Implementing highly cost-effective sodium reduction policies could save an estimated 7 million lives globally by 2030. It is an important component of action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal target of reducing deaths from noncommunicable diseases. But today, only nine countries (Brazil, Chile, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Spain and Uruguay) have a comprehensive package of recommended policies to reduce sodium intake.

“Unhealthy diets are a leading cause of death and disease globally, and excessive sodium intake is one of the main culprits,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “This report shows that most countries are yet to adopt any mandatory sodium reduction policies, leaving their people at risk of heart attack, stroke, and other health problems. WHO calls on all countries to implement the ‘Best Buys’ for sodium reduction, and on manufacturers to implement the WHO benchmarks for sodium content in food.”

A comprehensive approach to sodium reduction includes adopting mandatory policies and WHO’s four “best buy” interventions related with sodium which greatly contribute to preventing noncommunicable diseases. These include:

Reformulating foods to contain less salt, and setting targets for the amount of sodium in foods and meals
Establishing public food procurement policies to limit salt or sodium rich foods in public institutions such as hospitals, schools, workplaces and nursing homes
Front-of-package labelling that helps consumers select products lower in sodium
Behaviour change communication and mass media campaigns to reduce salt/sodium consumption
Countries are encouraged to establish sodium content targets for processed foods, in line with the WHO Global Sodium Benchmarks and enforce them though these policies.

Mandatory sodium reduction policies are more effective, as they achieve broader coverage and safeguard against commercial interests, while providing a level playing field for food manufacturers. As part of the report, WHO developed a Sodium country score card for Member States based on the type and number of sodium reduction policies they have in place.

“This important report demonstrates that countries must work urgently to implement ambitious, mandatory, government-led sodium reduction policies to meet the global target of reducing salt consumption by 2025,” said Dr Tom Frieden, President and CEO of Resolve to Save Lives, a not-for-profit organization working with countries to prevent 100 million deaths from cardiovascular disease over 30 years. “There are proven measures that governments can implement and important innovations, such as low sodium salts. The world needs action, and now, or many more people will experience disabling or deadly—but preventable—heart attacks and strokes.”

The global average salt intake is estimated to be 10.8 grams per day, more than double the WHO recommendation of less than 5 grams of salt per day (one teaspoon). Eating too much salt makes it the top risk factor for diet and nutrition-related deaths. More evidence is emerging documenting links between high sodium intake and increased risk of other health conditions such as gastric cancer, obesity, osteoporosis and kidney disease.

WHO calls on Member States to implement sodium intake reduction policies without delay and to mitigate the harmful effects of excessive salt consumption. WHO also calls on food manufacturers to set ambitious sodium reduction targets in their products.

Bosso, Platinum Lock Horns In Explosive Tie

Highlanders coach Baltemar Brito has refused to read much into past records ahead of their Sunday’s Castle Lager Premiership Matchday 3 encounter against defending champions FC Platinum.

Mahere Tears Into Kirsty Coventry

Prominent lawyer and opposition Citizens for Coalition for Change (CCC) spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere has blasted Sports Minister Kirsty Coventry for being insensitive to the plight of football players.

Mahere’s sentiments come in the wake of Coventry revealing in Parliament that her ministry and the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) do not want to have the FIFA suspension lifted at this point.

Zimbabwe was suspended by FIFA for government interference after the SRC suspended the Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA administration for several allegations.

FIFA’s only condition for the embargo to be lifted is the unconditional reinstatement of the Kamambo-led board but Coventry insists there are “cleaning Zimbabwean football” and having the suspension lifted is not a priority.

Mahere took to microblogging site Twitter to criticize Coventry, accusing her of arrogantly dealing with the issue.

Mnangagwa Regime Lacks Credibility, Integrity – President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri

It is every citizen’s duty to fight for freedom from Zanu PF oppression.

This was said by CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa.

According to President Chamisa, Mr Mnangagwa’s administration lacks integrity and credibility.

“LEADERSHIP SETS AND DEFINES THE STANDARDS…

What falls before anything else falls or fails is government.

Once the standards, integrity and credibility of government fall or fail everything else collapses. Let’s fix it,” said President Chamisa in a statement on Twitter.

On Saturday President Chamisa wrote on his official Facebook page:

SEEK GOD NOT GOLD…No one can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else. he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. Matt 6:24 Blessed Sabbath beloved! #NewLeaders #NewNation #bettertomorrow

Chiwenga, Mudenda Bootlick Mnangagwa, As The President Grabs Gweru

By- Vice President Constantino Chewnga and the speaker of Parliament, Jacob Mudenda, have hero-worshipped President Emerson Mnangagwa and said that God sent him to rule.

The two praised Mnangagwa at an event held for his freedom in Gweru.

At the event, attended by a sizeable gathering that included traditional leaders, Cabinet Ministers and Zanu PF supporters, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga said the conferment was a special honour for the Head of State and Government.

“This is indeed a special honour in recognition of a man who has contributed to the growth and development of Gweru. The conferment of Freedom of the City symbolises the confidence the people of Gweru, Midlands province and indeed the generality of Zimbabweans have in your leadership. This is not just an achievement but a celebration of the highest order in appreciation of the impact that you have made in improving the livelihoods of your people,” said VP Chiwenga.

“For us privileged to work with you on a daily basis, we are convinced that there is no better leader to take us to the Zimbabwe we all want and desire. The Lord must be smiling that the leader that he bequeathed to Zimbabwe has made great strides and has achieved so much in stabilising and consolidating the social and political gains made since the advent of the Second Republic.”

He commended Gweru City Council led by Mayor Hamutendi Kombayi, saying they have demonstrated love and appreciation for the leadership of President Mnangagwa.

Clr Kombayi, commended President Mnangagwa for what he is doing to improve local authorities.

“His Worship, the Mayor, Councillor Hamutendi Kombayi and his entire council and the people of this city have demonstrated the greatest love and affection to you by bestowing this honour of the Freedom of the City and we join them blissfully. The fact that the conferment was done when council was in full session shows that the President is a distinguished leader and deserves this high honour,” VP Chiwenga said.

He said President Mnangagwa stood tall among other luminaries and this made Gweru City Council and Zimbabwe as a whole to place him in the annals of strategists.

“I also want to say to the city of Gweru and the people of Gweru, that after what you have done, can you also demonstrate it in the forthcoming election by observing peace, unity, love and harmony. We are all Zimbabweans and this is our only motherland, we were born here and we will die here,” said VP Chiwenga.

Speaker of the National Assembly, Advocate Jacob Mudenda, said President Mnangagwa deserved the honour.

“You more than deserve this coveted civic recognition especially on account of your illustrious contribution to the development of urban local authorities including Gweru city, let alone the entire Zimbabwe,” said Adv Mudenda.

He chronicled the origin of the name Gweru which he said originated from Ndebele settlement which meant a steep place, in itself symbolic to President Mnangagwa’s high position as a leader.

“Today you have been honoured at the euphemistic steep place of Gweru river. You are at the steep place as the Head of Government,” said Adv Mudenda.

He said President Mnangagwa was at the centre of driving economic growth to achieve Vision 2030 anchored on the National Development Strategy 1.

Clr Kombayi, commended President Mnangagwa for what he is doing to improve local authorities.

He said on November 28 last year, the full council resolved to confer President Mnangagwa with Freedom of the City.

“We have benefitted from devolution funds. They have helped us a lot. The funds did not come on time and slightly affected our operations but they indeed helped us, you also helped us to get water pumps,” said Clr Kombayi.

He said the city’s population had outgrown its infrastructural capacity.

“The infrastructure was for 300 000 people but in Gweru we now have a population of 1,2 million,” said Clr Kombayi.

Residents of the town commended the President for transforming their lives through his policies.

“Most of our roads have been improved. Some of them were impassable but now we see tangible works on the ground. We pray for continued support on the remaining roads,” said Mrs Chipo Makoni of Mkoba 9. Mr Daniel Mapolisa of Ascot said he was encouraged by the unity of purpose shown by Gweru City Council.

“Gweru city council is constituted by councillors from different political parties but they resolved to confer the honour on President Mnangagwa,” he said.

8 Perish In Musina

By A Correspondent- Eight people (8) some of them believed to be Zimbabweans were killed in a road traffic accident near Musina town on 1 April 2023.

The now-deceased were travelling on a Toyota Quantum when it collided head-on with a delivery van.

The incident occurred before the Baobab Tollgate along the N1 highway at around 5 AM.

The Chronicle reported Limpopo’s Traffic and Community Safety spokesperson, Tidimalo Chuene as saying the driver of the minibus made an overtaking error resulting in the crash. She said:

Indications are that the accident happened when a minibus taxi overtook unsafely on a barrier line and collided head-on with a light delivery vehicle.

Five men and three women died as a result of the accident while eight other people who sustained injuries were transported to nearby health facilities for medical attention.

The road was reportedly temporarily closed for emergency services to attend to the scene.

report in 2022 said there are more than 800 000 road accidents in South Africa every year, translating to roughly 2 200 crashes every day.

Many road accident deaths were attributed to drivers and passengers not wearing seatbelts, speeding, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

6 Subjects For BEAM Students

By A Correspondent- Learners whose fees are paid through the Basic Education Assistance Module (Beam), have reportedly been told to top up examination fees.

Beam is a government programme which pays tuition and examination fees, and levies for underprivileged students. It was introduced in 2001.

Bulawayo provincial education director Jane Ndebele yesterday, however, told Southern Eye that the Beam programme pays for only six Ordinary Level (‘O’ Level) subjects. Beam students doing more than six subjects have to pay for the extra subjects.

“Through Beam assistance, students can only register six subjects. Those who have been asked to pay on their own are probably doing more than six subjects,” Ndebele said.

“The claims that Beam is no longer paying fees for ‘O’ Level students probably came from parents who do not understand that the programme pays for six subjects (only),” she said.

In September last year it was revealed that some schools in Bulawayo were demanding top-up school fees from pupils under the Beam facility, resulting in alleged double collection of fees.

In 2022, government increased the Beam allocation to $5,6 billion to cater for an increasing demand for assistance after many people lost their livelihoods due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Government is targeting to assist 1,5 million children under the facility.

Bindura Detectives Nabbed

By A Correspondent- Two detectives from CID Bindura appeared in court yesterday on allegations of extorting money from a suspected armed robber whom they had helped secure bail, but then started demanding more money until in the end he went to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission who set the trap that led to their arrest.

Detective Constable Petros Kambalazaza and Detective Assistant Inspector Elvis Magaya appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court charged with extortion.

They were not asked to plead to the charges when they appeared before Harare regional magistrate Mrs Vongai Guwuriro, who remanded Kambalazaza to Monday for his bail application while Magaya was granted $50 000 bail.

They allegedly initially extorted US$1 000 from suspected robber Godfrey Chimupanje of Katarira, Mutyoramwendo village under Chief Chiswiti and then while he was on bail tried to extort more. The State led by Mr Zebadiah Bofu alleges that on December 7 last year Kambalazaza, Magaya and a third officer identified only as detective Charuma, and who apparently was not involved in the later extortion, arrested Chimupanje on allegations of robbery and they took him to CID Bindura for questioning.

On December 12 the two now charged took him to Bindura Magistrates Court for initial remand where he was remanded in custody to December 23. But the next day, December 13, Kambalazaza and Magaya visited Chimupanje at Bindura remand prison where they booked him out for indications, a normal police procedure at this point.

But then the two allegedly became bent coppers. They took him to CID Bindura offices, where they did not get out of the car but allegedly told him that they could make the charges vanish if he gave them US$1 000.

Chimupanje told them he could not get the money and could not phone his wife since investigators had taken his wife’s phone. The two police detectives told him to call his mother-in-law so that he could speak to his wife and ask her for money.

Kambalazaza allegedly called Chimupanje’s wife who promised to get the money two days later on December 15. Kambalazaza then told Chimupanje’s wife that he would take him back to remand prison until she was able to get the money for her husband.

It is alleged that Chimupanje’s two wives later contributed US$400, which they took to the two cops.

Chimupanje was booked from Bindura remand prison and taken to Kambalazaza’s office at CID Bindura where the wives handed over the US$400.

Kambalazaza told them not to disclose the amount to his colleagues as he wanted to pocket US$200 and share the remainder with others. Kambalazaza then promised Chimupanje’s wives that he would arrange for his release.

On the same day at around 2pm, Kambalazaza booked Chimupanje from remand prison and took him to Bindura Magistrates Court, where he was granted bail and was remanded to December 23.

On December 22, Kambalazaza called Chimupanje and advised him to bring the balance when he attended court. Still paying the bribe in installments, Chimupanje gave the detectives US$300 on Decembet 23 and was remanded to January 10 this year.

The day before that routine remand, January 9, Kambalazaza allegedly called Chimupanje demanding the final installment of US$300 the next day. Chimupanje told him he did not have the money but could get it around 2pm on the same day.

The court heard that on January 26 Kambalazaza called the Chimupanje reminding him to bring his balance. He was remanded to February 28.

At the next remand the two detectives called asking where he was and he told them that he was in Harare.

They later met him at the court gate and they angrily asked why he had lied and told him to get into their car.

They told him that as punishment they were preparing summons for him to reappear in court since he had no money. They allegedly made him sign a document indicating that he would appear in court on March 15.

The court heard that they searched his pockets and took his personal documents and warned him that if he did not bring the money they now wanted they would ensure that he languished in remand prison.

They allegedly went further and threatened him that if he failed to bring the money, they would stage a robbery and plant his identity documents at the scene to incriminate him for the robbery.

Chimupanje promised to sell his stand to ensure that he gave them the money and they agreed to let him go.

On March 15 Chimupanje reported the alleged extortion to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission.

On March 28 a trap was set leading to the arrest of the two detectives.

Grade 4 Learner Pregnant

By A Correspondent- A Grade Four learner at Kaitano Primary School in Nyanga District is heavily pregnant after she was sexually abused by her uncle, a cousin and a schoolmate.

The girl, who turned 13 on 6 January this year, is now six months pregnant.

In an interview with The Manica Post on Monday, with the consent of her father, the girl said he was intimate with her uncle, who is in his late 40s; her 23-year-old cousin and a 15-year-old schoolmate.

The abusers were identified as Alison Mabvundisa, Joseph Mabota-Mabvumba, and a 15-year-old teenager (name withheld).

The girl’s uncle is a known artisanal gold miner. It is believed that he sexually abused the girl to enhance his gold mining initiatives, a ritual act known as kupinga gomba.

The detestable practice is done with the help of traditional healers. Said the girl:

I slept with Baba vaTalent (Mabvundisa). This happened while I was alone at home.

I also slept with my schoolmate (name withheld) and Joseph Mabota-Mabvumba.

In a separate interview with The Manica Post, the Grade Four learner’s father, (name withheld to protect her identity) said:

We were informed of her pregnancy by the school authorities. In fact, we were summoned to the school and they told us that she is pregnant.

We are being assisted to handle the matter by a local childcare worker and we have been to the clinic with her. She is six months pregnant now.

The school allowed her to continue attending lessons and will only be excused to give birth.

She will continue with her education soon afterward. Her uncle is said to be the one responsible for the pregnancy.

He said he has not talked to his brother about the issue as he is no longer coming to the area.

The local childcare worker, Dudzai Matiwenga told The Manica Post that the matter was reported to the police. She said:

I received the report of this child’s pregnancy after the school authorities referred her to the clinic.

Teachers discovered that she is pregnant during a sports event.

When I contacted the Social Services Department, I was advised to take the child to the police.
The father had to sell a goat to raise the bus fare for us to go to the police.
Unfortunately, the child has difficulties explaining what really happened to her.
Two of the alleged perpetrators (the teenager and Mabota-Mabvumba) were initially arrested, but have since been released.

When we went to the clinic, we were told that it is too late to terminate the pregnancy.

The child told us that she was in love with her schoolmate and Mabota-Mabvumba. She said the schoolmate was her long-time boyfriend.

She said he would visit her at home and force her to be intimate with him several times.

She also told us that she met Mabota-Mabvumba on her way from fetching water while he was going to the tuck shop.

They got intimate that day. Later, the issue of her uncle, who is in his late 40s, then surfaced.

Matiwenga said she was now facing daily threats from the families of the accused persons.

She said the situation has been compounded by the questionable mental state of the Grade Four learner and her parents.

Woman Seeks Peace After Being Accused Of Witchcraft

A WOMAN from Cowdray Park suburb in Bulawayo is living in palpable fear after her neighbour who is in the habit of accusing her of practicing witchcraft sensationally claimed that she unleashed black cats to cast a spell on his daughter.

As if that was not enough Msizikazi Moyo said her neighbour Mosva Manjokota was also accusing her of trying to kidnap his other minor child.

Moyo said the witchcraft accusations being levelled against her by Manjokota had tarnished her reputation in the suburb.

Moyo said on the first encounter her neighbour confronted her last week on Tuesday at around 8am and shouted at her branding her a witch while also accusing her of sending black cats to bewitch his daughter.

Manjokota claimed that his daughter screamed in the middle of the night and complained that she was seeing Moyo in her dreams unleashing black cats at her.

Moyo who is now being labelled a witch in her suburb said on the second occasion her neighbour once again confronted her while accusing her of stalking his other daughter with an intention of kidnapping her.

The troubled Moyo engaged elders in the community to talk to her troublesome neighbour but their efforts were fruitless.

She then applied for a peace order against him at the Western Commonage Court. In her affidavit which read in part she said: “I’m applying for a peace order against my neighbour who is accusing me of bewitching his daughters.

“He claimed that his daughter saw me in her dreams while bewitching her and he also said on the same night his other daughter failed to sleep claiming she was seeing two cats that I had sent to torment her.

On another occasion he confronted me at my house and claimed that I was stalking his minor child with the intention of kidnapping her during the night.”

In response Manjokoto said: “I once saw her following my children and after that they started to experience strange dreams and they fell sick. When I saw her stalking my children that is when I asked her to refrain from doing that.”

The presiding magistrate Sikhethile Moyo granted Moyo a peace order. Manjokoto was ordered not to insult Moyo or visit her at her place.

He was also ordered not to make false accusations against his neighbour.

Common Cholera Symptoms

Cholera is an acute diarrhoeal infection caused by ingestion of food or water contaminated with the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. Cholera remains a global threat to public health and an indicator of inequity and lack of social development.

Symptoms
Cholera is an extremely virulent disease that can cause severe acute watery diarrhoea. It takes between 12 hours and 5 days for a person to show symptoms after ingesting contaminated food or water (2). Cholera affects both children and adults and can kill within hours if untreated.

Most people infected with V. cholerae do not develop any symptoms, although the bacteria are present in their faeces for 1-10 days after infection and are shed back into the environment, potentially infecting other people.

Among people who develop symptoms, the majority have mild or moderate symptoms, while a minority develop acute watery diarrhoea with severe dehydration. This can lead to death if left untreated.

History
During the 19th century, cholera spread across the world from its original reservoir in the Ganges delta in India. Six subsequent pandemics killed millions of people across all continents. The current (seventh) pandemic started in South Asia in 1961, reached Africa in 1971 and the Americas in 1991. Cholera is now endemic in many countries.

Vibrio cholerae strains
There are many serogroups of V. cholerae, but only two – O1 and O139 – cause outbreaks. V. cholerae O1 has caused all recent outbreaks. V. cholerae O139 – first identified in Bangladesh in 1992 – caused outbreaks in the past, but recently has only been identified in sporadic cases. It has never been identified outside Asia. There is no difference in the illness caused by the two serogroups.

Epidemiology, risk factors, and disease burden
Cholera can be endemic or epidemic. A cholera-endemic area is an area where confirmed cholera cases were detected during the last 3 years with evidence of local transmission (meaning the cases are not imported from elsewhere). A cholera outbreak/epidemic can occur in both endemic countries and in countries where cholera does not regularly occur.

In cholera endemic countries an outbreak can be seasonal or sporadic and represents a greater than expected number of cases. In a country where cholera does not regularly occur, an outbreak is defined by the occurrence of at least 1 confirmed case of cholera with evidence of local transmission in an area where there is not usually cholera.

Cholera transmission is closely linked to inadequate access to clean water and sanitation facilities. Typical at-risk areas include peri-urban slums, and camps for internally displaced persons or refugees, where minimum requirements of clean water and sanitation are not been met.

The consequences of a humanitarian crisis – such as disruption of water and sanitation systems, or the displacement of populations to inadequate and overcrowded camps – can increase the risk of cholera transmission, should the bacteria be present or introduced. Uninfected dead bodies have never been reported as the source of epidemics.

The number of cholera cases reported to WHO has continued to be high over the last few years. During 2020 323 369 cases, 857 deaths were notified from 24 countries 3. The discrepancy between these figures and the estimated burden of the disease is due many cases not being recorded due to limitations in surveillance systems and fear of impact on trade and tourism.

Prevention and control
A multifaceted approach is key to control cholera, and to reduce deaths. A combination of surveillance, water, sanitation and hygiene, social mobilisation, treatment, and oral cholera vaccines are used.

Soccer Star’s Dad Slams Barca

The father of Ansu Fati is furious with Barcelona and wants his son to leave the club.

The 20-year-old forward has struggled for game time this season. He has made 38 appearances in all competitions under coach Xavi Hernandez, but 27 of them have come as a substitute.

Bori Fati – who manages his son’s career alongside agent Jorge Mendes – believes Ansu deserves more minutes.

“If it was up to me, I would take him [to another team] but [Ansu] wants to stay at Barcelona,” Bori told Cope on Tuesday.

“He does not want to sign for another club, but I want to see him succeed. As a dad, I am angry. Seeing Ansu play so little winds you up a little bit and sometimes I think as a father, not a coach.”

He added: “At Barca they tell me that they have bet a lot on Ansu, they tell me that clearly.

“When I sat down with Jorge Mendes, the first thing he told me was that Ansu wants to stay and will continue playing for Barcelona.

“But I, as a father, thought otherwise, and Ansu doesn’t agree with that.

“What bothers me is how they are treating Ansu for minutes. One minute, two minutes, three minutes, that’s what bothers me.

“If it carries on like this, I will go [back] to [the family home in] Seville and that’s that. I didn’t go to the game against [Real] Madrid. I won’t go to the stadium anymore. The other day Ansu asked me why I didn’t go, he thought I was there. I told him I didn’t fancy it.”- Soccer24 News

By John Burke | As ZHRO, we have added part one of this damning exposition regarding money laundering to the extent of USD $1 billion and Gold Smuggling by the creation of a link to the ZHRO YouTube Platform called “ZHRO – Crime Report” CLICK HERE

We are now planning demonstrations, further petitions and other campaigns to bring the crimes of the Zanu PF ‘regime’ in Zimbabwe to the greater public attention, for the express benefit of the Nation and Citizens of Zimbabwe.

Part One released 23rd March 2023 {View part 1 of 4 here at this link}.
Part Two released 30th March 2023 {View part 2 of 4 here at this link}

Background: It mainly started in 2021, however endemic corruption and ruthless exploitation of the wealth of the natural resources of Zimbabwe has been going on for DECADES! Probably back to the {So Called} Independence on  18th April 1980!

Background: It mainly started in 2021, however endemic corruption and ruthless exploitation of the wealth of the natural resources of Zimbabwe has been going on for DECADES! Probably back to the {So Called} Independence on  18th April 1980!

2nd Nov 2021 COP26 DemonstrationsHowever in 2021 the new President {after a military coup to replace Mugabe in 2017 and a rigged election in 2018 and European Union Assessment of the 2018 Elections}, was slated to visit the United Kingdom {under the auspices of the United Nations} for the Climate conference COP26 – Oct-Nov 2021. As ZHRO, ZAPU, ROHR and the then MDC(A) {now re-branded as CCC} we took our demonstration, firstly to the door of 10 Downing Street with a petition to {Boris Johnson} and also to the COP26 conference itself in Glasgow on the 1st and 2nd November 2021.

Even then we {ZHRO and VUKA} had created the banner stating “ZANU PF MUST GO” and ROHR had created “The Face Behind- Corruption etc” We all knew that Zimbabwe was being {and had been} plundered for her natural resources – for the exclusive benefit to the Zanu PF “elite” – including the arch criminal President Mnangagwa himself READ OUR OCTOBER 2021 PETITION HERE – we did not want Mnangagwa to enter the United Kingdom under any circumstances.

We had reminded the UK Government, that Mnangagwa was head of security under the 1983-87 Gukhurundi genocide {petition in July 2018 for that issue} and as the “Chief Strategist” as named by the United Nations in their 2002 report regarding the wholesale looting of diamonds from the DR Congo! It’s not as if this was all news to the British Government.

So the Criminality of the Zanu PF {Party} regime in Zimbabwe since 1980 has been an ongoing slide into depravity, all at the expense of the citizens and infrastructure of Zimbabwe. The current decline of routine maintenance of Power Generation, Sewage, Water supply, Roads, Railways, Dams etc etc, has led to some saying that Zimbabwe has returned to the “Stone Age” as simply nothing works any more. Regular power outages, non-functioning Sewage systems {leading to outbreaks of Typhoid and Cholera}, water supply, roads and rail completely dilapidated in most of Zimbabwe.

52751731981 1a668e203c cHowever the outrage is not limited to just election rigging and corruption. Zimbabwe happens to be one of the few remaining nations who have NOT signed for the UN Convention Against Torture… That should indicate that the Zanu PF regime uses violence, abductions AND torture to oppress the citizens of Zimbabwe and have done so, again for decades!

So, fast forward to the 16th March 2023 and our petition to Rishi Sunak, for the release of Opposition Vice Chair, sitting MP and Lawyer, Job Sikhala – who still remains in the High Security prison without charge, and denied bail over 16 times for {today 24th March 2023} 283 days! We even had the Co-Chair{ of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Zimbabwe}, Lord Jonathan Oates, from the House of Lords, as a joint signatory!

So now, we are starting our campaign planning for the implications exposed by this “Gold Mafia” four part series – an under-cover exposition of money laundering and Gold smuggling in Zimbabwe, and Internationally by the Zanu PF regime and its “ambassadors”. This first installment has galvanised Zimbabweans, both at home and in the global diaspora into action – to try and rescue their Nation and put the wealth back into the hands of the citizens – where it has always belonged.

Something we are currently planning for the “Independence Day” event on the 18th April 2023 – 43 years of oppression, so nothing to celebrate.

We have some provisional items planned and will be engaging with various aspects of the UK Administration, Met Police Diplomatic Unit, HMRC (Tax Office – VAT, Income and Corporation Tax investigations), Fraud Squad, Home Office, etc.

Our findings and the responses of the authorities listed will be communicated as they develop.

We also have a small demo planned on April Fool’s Day – Saturday 1st April as this year its Zanu PF who are clearly the fools!!

Flyer Mk3 April Fools

April Fools Day, is an annual custom on 1st April consisting of practical jokes and hoaxes. Jokesters often expose their actions by shouting “April Fools!” at the recipient. Mass media can be involved with these pranks, which may be revealed as such the following day. The custom of setting aside a day for playing harmless pranks upon one’s neighbour has been relatively common in the world historically.

An 1857 ticket to “Washing the Lions” at the Tower of London in London. No such event ever took place. Although the origins of April Fools’ is unknown, there are many theories surrounding it. In the 1957 the BBC Panorama included a feature on the “Spaghetti Harvest” in Italy, the reporters had even hung uncooked spaghetti from trees to perpetuate the fraud!

A disputed association between 1st April and foolishness is in Geoffrey Chaucer‘s The Canterbury Tales (1392). In the “Nun’s Priest’s Tale“, a vain cock Chauntecleer is tricked by a fox on “Since March began thirty days and two,” i.e. 32 days since March began, which is 1st April. However, it is not clear that Chaucer was referencing 1st April since the text of the “Nun’s Priest’s Tale” also states that the story takes place on the day when the sun is “in the sign of Taurus had y-rune Twenty degrees and one,” which would not be 1st April. Modern scholars believe that there is a copying error in the extant manuscripts and that Chaucer actually wrote, “Syn March was gon“. If so, the passage would have originally meant 32 days after March, i.e. 2nd May, the anniversary of the engagement of King Richard II of England to Anne of Bohemia, which took place in 1381.Next article: Zimbabwe to Join BRICS?Next

Mnangagwa Publicly Says “Uebert Angel Remains At Large,” No One Will Touch Him

By Farai D Hove | Presidential Spokesperson, George Charamba has tweeted saying the self confessing cash machine hacker, Uebert Angel, remains an ambassador of the government of Zimbabwe.

This contradicts pro government economist Eddie Cross who last night said he had been stripped of his Diplomatic Passport, to avoid jail time.

Angel is exposed in the ongoing Al Jazeera documentary, #GOLDMAFIA which recorded him arranging money laundering operations and confessing to executing other such illegal operations while altogether working hand in hand with the Reserve Bank Of Zimbabwe.

Wrote Charamba early Thursday morning in a thread titled, “CLARIFYING ON THE STATUS OF AMBASSADOR-AT-LARGE HUBERT ANGEL” : Following claims circulating in the social media that Zimbabwe’s Ambassador-at-Large, Ambassador Hubert Angel has been stripped of his ambassadorial status, kindly be advised that His Excellency the President, Dr ED …who is the sole appointing authority of all Ambassadors representing the State of Zimbabwe, HAS NOT TAKEN SUCH A STEP. The Ambassador – at -Large remains in that status and executing all his duties as outlined at the time of his appointment.

Please be so advised.

Mavaza: The Al Jazeera Documentary Has Failed To Impress

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | The opposition has been trying to build a mountain out of the Aljazeera’s much trumpted documentary. Before its publication the documentary was hailed as a smoking gun allegedly to expose Zanu PF and its leaders as engaged in gang crime looting and money laundering.

The opposition is making calls for the President to comment on this documentary. It is not for them to tell the President when to comment. If the documentary is revealing the truth then the culprits will face the music. It is therefore foolish for the opposition to demand an official government response.
The documentary turned out to be worse than a dumb squib. In fact it turned out to be a pathetic and sorry attempt at election campaigning by and on behalf of CCC and some detractors. Zimbabwe is under attack.
It is not the first time Aljazeera coming up with a documentary to a country just towards elections, this shows that there is an intention a well calculated one to control the outcome of the elections. It tried the same tactic in Namibia but failed to remove the revolutionary party. It then means those who are sponsoring Aljazeera have ulterior motives. They have a regime change agenda.
The second segment dubbed Gold Mafia Part 2 became a loud sounding nothing. It highlighted jilted lovers moaning for the lost love and bitter former employees trying to settle a score. Nothing was said or shown about Zimbabwean government except nefarious acts of one Cleopas Chidodo and a little known Aleck Yasini.
To the disappointment of the detractors part 3 focused on South African Bank’s corruption. While the stinking corrupt financial institution’s cup was dropped at the South African bank South Africans did not blame ANC a sharp contrast with Zimbabweans who just make noise for the sake of noise.
We are reliably informed that part 3 will be concentrating on Dubai and those who were hoping to have Zimbabwe embarrassed are now left with egg shells in their faces.

The documentary is its own critic. Its contents demolishes any semblence of credibility in the sad piece of work.
“The whole hullabaloo about illicit gold is plain codswallop and balderdash “to quote from Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa. “The country‘s detractors coalesced around George Soros and his Open Society Institute of Southern Africa are clearly miffed and terribly disappointed that Zimbabwe has reverted to and resurrected gold as the reference anchor of the United States Dollar.”
For years, hyperinflation has been the bane and bugbear of the besieged Zimbabwe economy. The Ango-Saxon world and its European kith and kin launched a concerted economic attack. The goal being to force Zimbabwe to its heel so it could cry ‘Uncle‘. The fiat US dollar as the infant global currency of new baby America was deployed to mercilessly decimate the Zimdollar fiat money inherited from colonial Rhodesia. The desperate currency scenario called for creative innovation.” Cde Mutsvangwa added.
We should however appreciate that in politics every country has its own scandals.
With nearly 43 years of Zimbabwean history post independence accounted for, it’s perhaps no surprise that the nation’s political life has had its good and bad moments. Political scandals have dogged Harare from the beginning, and continue to this day — a fact of which the nation was reminded by the Aljazeera document.
It’s too soon to conclude where the Gold Mafia report and surrounding saga will fit in the history of Zimbabwean political scandal, but other moments have firmly solidified their places in that past. Zimbabwe navigated through embarrassing scandals. The Willowgate and the Warvet war compensation. In all these serving ministers were involved and many were fired some resigned and we lost some who died in the process. But we soldiered on. This Gold Mafia does not implicate any serving member and the fact that there was a mention of the President does not implicate him.
Corruption is a cancer and we all know Mnangagwa’s stand against corruption. In his first term a lot of ministers some very close to him have been arrested for abuse of office. Mnangagwa has always acted fast in dealing with corruption and that is his primary concern. It is therefore strange that the opposition tries to use the Gold Mafia documentary to tarnish the image of the president and the party.
In America now almost coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the impeachment proceedings of President Bill Clinton, who was almost brought down Monica Lewinsky. This led to the second impeachment trial in America’s history.
America has a history of corruption back dating from the creation. What happened: During the French Revolution, American President John Adams sent a delegation to Paris to work out some issues after the French started searching U.S. ships that were en route to England. But the three French diplomats involved wouldn’t negotiate unless they were bribed. The U.S. officials refused and returned home. Amid questions over the perceived lack of progress, Adams made the meeting notes public, and the American people were outraged by the behavior of the French representatives — who showed up as X, Y and Z on redacted documents. This led to an undeclared, two-year naval war known as the Quasi War. A private citizen, Philadelphia doctor George Logan, took it upon himself to engage in private negotiations with French leaders, suggesting to them ways they could counter his government’s position. This led America to create the law to stop citizens to engage foreign entities.up to this day it is called the Logan law.
This shows us the two corrupt countries in the middle of the sea. So corruption did not start today. Americans again must remember the Eaton Affair
Though very much of its time, the Eaton Affair shows how seemingly minor personal matters can have major political implications amidst the volatile blend of politics and society in the nation’s capital.

There have been many Presidents who have been linked with sexual scandal in America Clinton, JFK, Warren G. Harding to name but a few. Whilst Clinton’s nearly cost him his time in office, there is one scandal that nearly prevented a President’s time in office completely.
Described as ‘the most despicable sex scandal in American political history’, the acts of President Grover Cleveland stand shamefully above those of any of his fellow Presidents. So there is nothing in the Aljazeera document which points to the president. Our President remains on high moral ground than his world counterparts.
We have realised that there are People in the media sector and in government who are selling the administration to the highest bidder, using their journalistic power or government power to exploit bad positions to make a lot of money,They are not interested in the national interest; they are interested in their self-interest.
Five years ago, corruption was seen as the necessary price of doing business and something so deeply ingrained that exposing and fighting it was regarded as futile and even harmful. We live in a different world now which was introduced by the new dispensation citizens, media and politicians across all regions actively condemn abuses of power and corruption. Such attitude change is partly due to exposure to past scandals and their consequences and the commitment of president Mnangagwa in fighting corruption. He instigated the exposure of the biggest corruption scandals over the last 25 years that inspired widespread public condemnation, and put ZAAC to action and sent people to prison. The Aljazeera scandals involve individuals across political parties and from the highest reaches of mining sector staggering amounts of bribes and money laundering of epic proportions.
In the wake of many of these scandals, our government will be committed to or will implement anti-corruption reforms, counted and, in some cases, recover losses.
While much progress has been made to improve accountability, raise awareness about how corruption happens and change norms and perceptions, we still have a long way to go to learn from these scandals and fight corruption effectively.
ZANU PF and Zimbabwe do not frown at this Aljazeera documentary but get some lessons to be learnt. While corrupt activities profited, the corrupt the affected countries pay the costs of overpriced necessities such as roads and power plants and massive loss of revenue. Zimbabwe will survive this scandal with its reputation intact and in many regards, the scandal will soon be somewhat relegated to the history books.

Zanu PF Orders Primaries Re-Run

By-Zanu PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa has ordered a re-run of primary elections in areas where there were incidents of violence.
Mnangagwa made the directive while addressing the politburo at the party headquarters in Harare on Thursday.
Addressing journalists after the politburo meeting last night, ZANU PF Secretary for Information and Publicity Christopher Mutsvangwa said Mnangagwa condemned the violence. Said Mutsvangwa:
One aspect which came out is that if there were any instances of violence in any particular constituency or ward, the President is a hardliner, he is on record for zero tolerance to violence and was very clear that charity begins at home.
If there were instances of violence carried [out] by either or both of the candidates there could be some disqualifications. If the violence was mutual there are going to be some re-runs
I am not going to announce when the re-runs will be because we would like to have a comprehensive list, when the whole process is done we will come to you.
ZANU PF held primaries last weekend and there were reports of gunshots having been fired, kidnapping, and rape in some areas.
Some cabinet ministers and ministers of State for provincial affairs and long-serving members of parliament lost in the primaries.

Lumumba Faces Arrest Over Defamatory Posts

By A Correspondent| Controversial social media personality Acie Lumumba, real name Gerrald Mutumanje faces arrest for posting malicious claims on social media against prominent corporate lawyer Zweli Lunga.

Lumumba whose marriage is teetering on the brink of collapse accused the lawyer and a Harare businessman for snatching his wife while he was battling cancer.

Lunga’s lawyers have hit back at Lumumba for trying to get public sympathy on social media using false allegations and demanding him to retract failure of which attracts arrest.

In a letter to Lumumba, the lawyers argue that Lumumba should deal with his marital woes without involving a professional legal practitioner who was engaged by his wife Lilian Madyara for a professional transaction.

This is after the controversial Lumumba went on social media and posted ““my wife confessed she was having an affair with Zweli Lunga and … friends and business associates I had known for over 10 years … Zweli got her to sell all my assets which I have no issues with, I will rebuild it all. The real issue is her twi lovers are so hell-bent over proving a point they are using all influence to restrict me from access to my son ….” –

The lawyers argue that Lumumba was malicious in his conduct and he cannot go unpunished if he refuses to retract.

“We advise you that if you had done your investigation well, you would have discovered that our client is a faithful and happily married man who has no time to indulge in extramarital affairs, more so, with a married lady.

“Our client has only associated with your wife on professional grounds and has never asked her out nor dated her as alleged. The allegation that our client is your wife’s lover is hogwash for he is not her lover, has never been her lover, has no intentions to ever be and will never be her lover,” the lawyers wrote.

The lawyers further stated that their client, Lunga, is not involved in the Lumumba, Madyara custody battle.

They said custody issues should be taken to court and not social media as there is no remedy there.

The letter further stated that the lawyers will be confronting Madyara over the claim that she confessed to Lumumba about the alleged affair.

“0ur client is a professional and ethical Legal Practitioner who does not mix business with his social life. If you are relying on the alleged “confession”, if there was ever such, our client asserts that the purported contents of the alleged confession are false. Put differently, if your wife ever said that to you, she would have clearly lied to you.

“We shall proceed to confront your wife to ascertain if she indeed made that false representation that our client was her lover in the manner that you have alleged and published.”

“Our client instructs us to give you free advice that you should desist from the practice of dragging other people into your marital issues with your wife. It is elementary that if you want to have access of your child in the event of resistance from the custodian parent you simply approach the Children’s Court. If you do not know where it is located, you can knock on our door and we will assign a legal clerk to show you. An order granting access to your child is not obtained on Twitter or Facebook but from a Court of Law of competent jurisdiction.

“For information our client is not involved in the matter which relates to your son. A mere perusal of the relevant court papers shows that our client is nowhere near that case and he wonders why you directed all that venom to him,” the letter reads.

Lumumba is also alleged to have gone on twitter claiming Lunga had defrauded Madyara on the guise of investment.

“Our client asserts that it is highly unethical of you to seek public sympathy on the basis of falsehoods. Our client was never given the net proceeds of the sale of Stand 9089 Glen Lorne Township 23 of Lot BC Kambanji. In actual fact, your wife collected the sum of US$230,016.00 on the 10th of March 2023 from our client’s firm. In the circumstances, our client challenges you to prove that he defrauded your wife in the manner alleged and/or that our client duped your wife in the name of investing the purchase price of the property in question,” the letter reads.

The lawyers said they will not hesitate to cause Lumumba’s arrest if he does not retract.

“We enjoin you to take these allegations seriously, failing which you will only have yourself to blame. In the event that you fail to retract and delete defamatory statements as demanded, our client shall proceed to issue summons and claim damages for defamation as well as lodge a criminal complaint against you without any further notice to you” the lawyers said.

Al Jazeera Corruption Documentary Devides Government

By- The ongoing series of Al Jazeera corruption documentaries has divided the Zanu PF administration, with government officials issuing conflicting statements.

This came out after Friday, George Charamba, the presidential spokesperson, said Uebert Angel remains Zimbabwe’s Ambassador-at-Large and has not been stripped of his ambassadorial status.

Charamba earlier intimated that the self-proclaimed prophet, who was appointed Zimbabwe’s Ambassador at Large and Presidential Envoy to Europe and the Americas in 2021, has lost his role.

He was responding to one Ba’Zuva on Twitter who had asked why “Uebert Angel have his diplomatic status revoked if the Al Jazeera documentary, #GoldMafia was much ado about nothing”. Charamba, using one of his accounts “Tinoedza Zvimwe”. He said:

Appointment to a diplomatic post means you further the interests and image of the country which appoints you as a representative of the Head of State of that country.

Once your actions run counter to both objectives, you are stripped of that title and all which goes with it.

This basic remedial ADMINISTRATIVE ACTION stands quite apart from any legal action your actions might attract. It is that simple.

You serve at the mercy of the appointing authority for as long he retains trust and confidence in you and in your competence to keep and protect the dignity of the STATE! Understood?

But in another Twitter post later on Friday, Charamba, using the same Twitter handle “Tinoedza Zvimwe”, said:

CLARIFYING ON THE STATUS OF AMBASSADOR-AT-LARGE HUBERT ANGEL:

Following claims circulating in social media that Zimbabwe’s Ambassador-at-Large, Ambassador Hubert Angel has been stripped of his ambassadorial status, kindly be advised that His Excellency the President, Dr. ED who is the sole appointing authority of all Ambassadors representing the State of Zimbabwe, HAS NOT TAKEN SUCH A STEP.

The Ambassador-at-Large remains in that status and executes all his duties as outlined at the time of his appointment. Please be so advised.

Angel was recently exposed by undercover Al Jazeera journalists allegedly offering to launder US$1.2 billion using his diplomatic cover.

In the first episode of the Al Jazeera documentary, titled “Gold Mafia: The Laundry Service”, Angel is seen calling Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) president Henrietta Rushwaya in the presence of the undercover reporters.

Angel made the calls in an attempt to convince the “investors” that he was able to facilitate the laundering of more than a billion US dollars in cash.

Damning Dossier Exposes Harare HR boss’ Stink Malfeasance

Suspended Harare City human resources boss Dr Cainos Chingombe who has been pushing for reinstatement, has been exposed in dossier for various malpractices he engineered over the years.

The dossier gleaned by this publication shows how Dr Chingombe defrauded the city council of millions of dollars in a scandalous vehicle scheme.

“The former senior employee is also accused of taking advantage of the presence of a Caretaker Council sometime in 2013 and misled the Caretaker Council by prospering a report which had the effect of changing the then existing conditions of service and recommended that Town Clerk be given authority to negotiate conditions of service for executives, which was in violation of good corporate governance.

This resulted in Dr. Chingombe and then then Town Clerk illegally varying the conditions of service resulting in the executives being allowed to purchase council vehicles using Council funds but registering the vehicles into their own names which was against good corporate governance and which arrangement exposed Council to loss in the event that the beneficiaries were to be in breach of the terms thereof, “reveals the dossier.

Allegations are that Chingombe was the chief ‘architect’. ” Dr. Chingombe was the architect of this prejudicial policy which he and the other directors eventually implemented resulting in them purchasing vehicles with Council funds and registering in their own names.

This also formed the basis of his dismissal by Council after he and other named officials abused the newly–crafted but prejudicial policy to pocket money arising from the funds that were meant to purchase Council vehicles for their use, “states the dossier.

There is also accusation that the suspended HR boss led the council to bungle in a retrenchment exercise in 2014 that cost the municipality a fortune.

” Sometime in 2014, Dr Chingombe misled Council by carrying out an unwise and ill-timed retrenchment exercise which resulted in the costly retrenchment of several Directors notably the Director Housing and Community Services and his Deputy Assistant Director Chiyangwa, the Director of Urban Planning, Psychology Chiwanga, the Director of Finance Cosmas Zvikaramba, the City Treasurer M. Mubvumbi, the Director of Amenities, Mr Chibanda among other notable senior officials.

” Dr. Chingome went on to pay millions of United States Dollars in retrenchment packages to the senior executives without seeking Council authority as per procedure, resulting in loss of Council funds.”

Some of the positions which had been abolished through the unlawful retrenchments were eventually reinstated on the Council structures and people being employed such as the position of Director of Housing and Community Services, Director of Works barely a year after the retrenchment- a clear case of lack of proper Human Resources planning and competence to say the least, “outlines the dossier.

Chingombe apart from gross inefficiencies, he also faces sexual abuse allegations were he said to have sexually assaulted students on attachment in exchange of jobs after college.

He was reported but allegedly used his proximity to power to evade arrest.

Contacted for comment a ZACC official confirmed there several dockets for chingombe which are almost ready but refused to shed more light.Chingombe declined to comment.

FULL TEXT- WESTPROP HOLDINGS LTD KENNETH SHARPE STATEMENT

STATEMENT BY WESTPROP HOLDINGS LTD CEO MR KENNETH SHARPE

It is with honour and respect that I speak to you today on this defining historic moment, the pinnacle of our history at WestProp.

We have turned a page and opened a new chapter in the book of our future. As has already been alluded to we have successfully migrated from being a private company to a publicly listed company on the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange.

It is with this in mind that I confirm WestProp Holdings Ltd is now a public company and encourage members of the public, pension funds and investors to invest by buying shares and take up a stake in the company and join us in our journey of a billion bricks. Why do I talk about a billion bricks?

If you look at the press pack you will find a 4 min video labelled WestProp Strategy Statement where our entire team shows how each person has bought into this vision.

This was developed over the last 4 years and during my study time at Havard Business School which resulted in us being able to proudly say “By 2050 we will pioneer world class, vertically integrated, premium lifestyle communities in Zimbabwe. Using technology and innovation, we operate in a high performance culture of excellence delivering a trusted customer centric ecosystem to live, work, shop and play.”

It is not a coincidence that we have targeted one billion bricks, in fact if you look at our projected construction for the projects we have designed, it will take one billion bricks and US$5 billion to complete them.

Every day, we are putting bricks into the ground working towards the vision where we know that within the next 27 years we will have laid one billion bricks. We have made great progress over the past few years with limited resources and as such I can confirm as of last Monday we had laid 5,298,975 bricks and have 55,626,972 as committed bricks from our existing sales.

As the public joins hands with us we can achieve much more this year by opening up new markets, new products and fabulous exciting new projects like the Mall of Zimbabwe, the Hills Golf Estate and Pomona City which is about bringing Dubai to Zimbabwe.

An investment in our company and property portfolio ensures you can own a home and inheritance for your spouse and offspring. A house can be used as collateral when you want to do other investments.

The difference with our property portfolio and projects is that when you buy in you are investing into a lifestyle community which means when you decide to sell you are not only selling the built structure but also a certain lifestyle.

We believe in creating and delivering an affordable lifestyle of luxury for people to live in comfort, style and safety where our smart cities encompass the live, work, shop and play model which means we provide social amenities like shopping malls, sporting facilities, crèches, churches and many other recreational facilities in a safe 24 hour secure gated community. Buying into our vision and creating the lifestyle estates increases the selling price of the properties and in turn the value of your shares.

To date, we have done exceptionally well and had consistent growth in a market that everyone else had written off. We now want to share the success so that everyone can benefit from our exceptional business growth and profitability.

Not only is the importance of this IPO for the public to benefit from our growth and profit, but more importantly, the reason why we’re offering shares is for three benefits:

  1. Firstly, it is safe. It’s a secure investment where someone who’s investing $50 will know that their $50 will still be there in one month, in one year and in five years’ time. It’s an alternative to the banks. There’s no cost we deduct for holding that value on behalf of the investor, and they are guaranteed that their investment is safe with us.
  1. Secondly, once they’ve invested with us, the investment doesn’t just stay at the $50 that they invested. We give a solid return. The reason why we’re able to give them an expected return in excess of 10% a year in USD is because we are highly profitable. Our company is on a huge growth trajectory and we’re making super profits. We’re one of the few companies in Zimbabwe that are making significant profits today, and that’s the second reason that our investors benefit from our success and we’re sharing in that benefit to them.
  2. The third reason, the most important reason is the journey of building Zimbabwe together. We are saying that together with the public, we can join hands and build Zimbabwe because the opportunity to invest with us will allow us and the public to come together, to hold hands and to build our country brick by brick. We are doing this today through IPO and the listing, benefiting yourself in becoming a shareholder with us, you are joining hands in owning the assets that we own. You’ll be owning part of the Mall of Zimbabwe and Millennium Heights and Office Park together with us. You’ll own the Hills Golf Estate with us. You will own Pomona City together with us. This is the time to get in. The time is now to get your share. In this day and age where the majority are crying over eroded pensions and
banked money losing its value; we provide the best and safest way of keeping and growing the value of your money over time. For example if you invest as little as US$50 with us you are assured that the amount will not depreciate. We will not charge you handling fees. We are an alternative to the formal banking system. Your money grows with us. Let us join hands on this Journey of building Zimbabwe together. It is for the love that I have for Zimbabwe that I have decided with my family and partners to open up the listing of WestProp for this once in a life time opportunity to participate in our IPO which is the listing of the company on the Vic Fall Stock Exchange. We really want the people of Zimbabwe to benefit from our growth and success. We believe in the future of Zimbabwe and see everyone as being part of the initiative to rebuild our beloved country. When I look at the future I do not see tomorrow or next week, nor next month nor next year but I see a

Zimbabwe in 10, 20 and 50 years from now. We believe people can participate in our offering and can partner with us. I announce the offering today of one million ordinary shares at $10 each and 5.4million preferential redeemable convertible shares at $5 each.

The preferential shares allow investors a period of 5 years to decide to become ordinary
shareholders during which time they will benefit from a minimum guaranteed return of 7.5 percent per year as well as dividends from the company’s profits. This is likely to result in excess of 10 percent per year being paid out which is an amount that no other listed company or bank in Zimbabwe is currently offering investors. Over five years the value of shares is likely to also go up.

We have a goal of taking our company from the current annual sales of US$40 million to over US$100 million within seven years and to create a balance sheet that will exceed US$1 billion in value which is more than 5 times the one today. All the shareholders will benefit from this growth. We know It is achievable and within our grasp.

I would like to thank you for the opportunity that the market has given us, the management team and consultants that have worked tirelessly for the past few months including Itai Chirume from MMC who is our lead financial advisor and stock broker, Sternford Moyo from Scanlen Holderness who are our legal advisers, Grant Thornton the auditors who worked tirelessly on our books for three solid months and CorpServe the transfer secretaries as well as to all the team at WestProp.

My sincere thanks to the entire VFX management team and listing committee with a special mention to their CEO Justin and Robert and their teams for being extremely professional and efficient, allowing us to showcase what the future of Zimbabwe will look like.

As mentioned by our Chairman the VFX allows trades to be exclusively in forex, has zero capital gains tax as being in a SEZ which is a tax free economic zone and minimal fees to buy and sell shares.

In closing, like I often say, the French poet Victor Hugo said there’s nothing as powerful as an idea whose time has come. And I often say, “If not me then who and if not now then when?”

My message to all of you today is: If not us, then who is going to build our country? Because truthfully this listing today is not about us as a company, it’s not even about us as a community of investors, it’s really about us as a country.

About moving our country forward, about doing the best we can to produce a result that our posterity, our future generations will be proud of.

Join us and make Zimbabwe proud.
Thank you, Tatenda, Siyabonga. Makorokoto.

Wicknell Chivhayo Trashes Al Jazeera Documentary : FULL TEXT

The Rubbish Al-Jazeera Documentary ;

Over the past week, there has been some unnecessary public euphoria on the so-called exposé by Al Jazeera on cross-border trading of Zimbabwean gold with the international market. I have watched the documentary at least twice, after assuming that I might have missed certain basic media practice, research principles and journalism ethics which must be observed in the creation of documentaries of this nature. I could not help but observe the following;

a) Information source and its credibility

Throughout the sensationalised documentary, there is constant reliance on unsubstantiated and alarmist comments by a senior politician from an opposition party. Without an ounce of evidence, the same politician who was part of a cabal that solicited for the imposition of illegal sanctions on Zimbabwe over two decades ago, alleges that about a USD1 Billion is being “smuggled” out of Zimbabwe through what he terms a “gold mafia”. These unsubstantiated claims are obviously bizarre considering the quantities that would have to be involved to meet the alleged value of USD1 Billion to be “smuggled”. What however raises the most suspicion is that Al Jazeera conveniently avoided interviewing Government officials at the Ministry of Finance, RBZ, ZIMRA or any senior politician from the ruling Party, ZANU PF. The documentary is therefore not balanced, but rather tilted in favour of the opposition.

b) Timing of the Documentary

Al Jazeera alleges in the documentary that the so-called “gold-mafia” has always been plying its trade in the Country since the days of former President Mugabe (MHSRIP). What boggles the mind however is that Al Jazeera only saw it fit to publish the deceptive documentary around four (4) months before the much-awaited 2023 harmonized elections in Zimbabwe. Can this be mere coincidence, especially considering the prominent role played by opposition figures in the documentary? VERY unlikely!!! If you ask me, the documentary is just but a rouse and ploy by opposition handlers to discredit the SECOND REPUBLIC as ably led by HIS EXCELLENCY, PRESIDENT E. D. MNANGAGWA. No amount of campaigning through international media houses can discredit the MASSIVE DEVELOPMENT that the RULING PARTY has achieved under the Second Republic.

c) Substance of the documentary

Apart from making sensational allegations of corruption and smuggling, the documentary carries no substance at all. It admits on one hand that all gold is declared to Fidelity Refineries, yet on the other it claims that there is no process to monitor outflows of the yellow metal. It further confirms that all gold is declared to and approved for export by the RBZ (and even produce what they understand as certificates from the Central Bank), but claim that the gold is smuggled out of the Country ??. The inconsistency simply goes to show the desperate attempts by opposition benefactors to decampaign efforts by ZANU PF to develop ZIMBABWE through transparent exploitation of its natural resources.

The documentary conveniently ignores the fact that ZIMBABWE is now nearing a USD12 BILLION mining industry by virtue of the gold exports through Government. Export earnings from gold trade have funded unprecedented infrastructure development in the Country such as Road Rehabilitation, Dam Construction, devolution programmes, etc. Vanhu ngavataure zvavanoziva please !!!

d) Attack on the Ambassador at Large

The criticism of the AMBASSADOR AT LARGE is from a position of pure ignorance. Without taking away the position as clarified in the Ambassador’s Statement, people must know that where BILLION DOLLAR DEALS are being negotiated, quick and authoritative decisions must be made. Umwe haasati ambo pinda mudhiri re US$1000 , how can you understand the language used in big money transactions ? We say and over promise anything and everything when interacting with billionaires.

e) My sweet advice

Ini hangu I have personally never been involved or interested in gold buying or trading. Handitozive kuti gold rakaita sei. The only gold I know is on my US$100,000 Rolex watch. But for a big media house such as Al Jazeera to attempt scoring political goals on behalf of a dying opposition political outfit is low and embarrassing. To make matters worse, the documentary creates an illusion that wese afamba ne Emirates, especially EK714 to Dubai anenge akatakura GOLD ????. TOTYA here kukwira EMIRATES because the COURT of PUBLIC opinion will think we are “Gold Mafia” or ma runners ema shefu? ??

My advice especially to the YOUTH is that your future is MUCH SAFER in the hands of HIS EXCELLENCY, PRESIDENT E. D. MNANGAGWA! ZANU PF is leaving NO-ONE and NO-PLACE behind by putting all mineral export proceeds to develop our beloved ZIMBABWE. Once commerce and trade in agriculture, mining etc is supported at Government level, zvichasvikawo kwatiri tese and we benefit as a Country. Let us fully support our Government as it endeavours to create a middle income economy by 2030.

Witchcraft Allegations Haunt Byo Woman

President’s Spokesman: Uebert Angel Remains Govt Ambassador | BREAKING NEWS

Lawyers Condemn Bullying And Censorship Of Journalists

Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) have condemned bullying and censorship of journalists on social media in the wake of an Al Jazeera documentary which exposes gold smuggling and money laundering in Zimbabwe. In a statement seen by Pindula News, ZLHR said bullying journalists stifles them

ZLHR CONDEMNS BULLYING AND CENSORSHIP OF JOURNALISTS

ZIMBABWE Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) strongly condemns the brazen bullying of journalists in a desperate attempt to undermine efforts to hold influential and powerful people accountable for their alleged misdemeanours and unduly limit freedom of expression and ultimately curtail access to information.

In what amounts to a bizarre act of extraordinary intimidation, one faceless social media enthusiast, who identifies himself as Tinoedzazvimwe on micro-blogging website, Twitter, blatantly threatened media practitioners and labelled them as “reckless journalists” simply for reporting on the contents of a corruption-exposing documentary broadcast by Al Jazeera Investigative Unit and calling on those implicated to be held to account for their actions.

The social media enthusiast chillingly warned journalists not to repeat and report what is contained in the documentary titled Gold Mafia, which according to Al Jazeera Investigative Unit, was recorded after the Infiltration of four gold smuggling gangs and reveals a giant money laundering and sanctions-evasion scheme in Southern Africa-and warned that some undisclosed “brickbats” would visit those who elect to do so.

There is no excuse to bully, intimidate, threaten, censure and endanger media practitioners. Such threats to journalists curtail freedom of expression and freedom of the media, which is one of the most fundamental rights guaranteed in section 61 of the Constitution and also stifles access to information, which is enshrined in section 62 of the Constitution and all of which are vital to a functioning democracy.

ZLHR is convinced that this stifling of journalists by some self-important gatekeepers, who are desperate to defend and please some authorities, is a failed attempt to stop the publication and consumption of perceived offensive media reports, which apparently reflect the flow of corruption in Zimbabwe.

Such gatekeepers need to understand that suppressing journalists will neither change people’s opinions nor generate public support for the commission of corrupt activities.

It is no coincidence that the intimidation of journalists is being done in the run-up to general elections.

Bullying of journalists not only puts the lives of journalists in danger but also makes it difficult for journalists to do their work freely.

This pattern of repression of journalists is not new in Zimbabwe, and ZLHR has, over the years, documented numerous violations by senior government employees and gatekeepers of the late Robert Mugabe and his successor President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

ZLHR is appalled by the audacity with which journalists are being attacked, and government should not protect authorities or public figures from criticism. Still, it should instead promote space for public debate and free expression in the face of shocking revelations of corruption linked to the pillaging of the country’s natural resources.

It is worrying to see the space for dissent and providing information of public importance rapidly shrink in Zimbabwe, yet freedom of expression is a cornerstone of democratic rights and freedoms.

Zimbabwean journalists have faced severe obstacles to executing their professional work for several years, including threats, harassment, intimidation, assault, arbitrary arrest, detention, prosecution and abduction. It is time to dismantle continued impunity.

Zimbabwean authorities must bring those responsible for the shameless attacks on media practitioners to justice and ensure that all journalists can do their jobs without fear of intimidation or reprisals.

ZLHR is concerned that this case of threats to the life and safety of journalists could be facilitated by, and form part of, a broader climate of intolerance towards free speech in Zimbabwe. The bullying of media practitioners shows further proof of direct attacks on the civic space in Zimbabwe.

It comes at a time when Zimbabwe is already hogging the spotlight for all the wrong reasons after introducing retrogressive amendments to the Private Voluntary Organisations Amendment Bill and introducing so-called patriotism provisions amendments in the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, which have the effect of curtailing and stifling the operations of non-governmental organisations.

Although Zimbabwe was removed from the ‘Grey List’ by the Financial Action Task Force in March 2022, the country risks severe consequences if the government does not promptly and adequately address these money laundering allegations. Especially given that such allegations arise barely one year after Zimbabwe was removed from the ‘Grey List’ by the global money laundering and terrorist financing watchdog.

“No Extra Lessons During The School Holidays”: Education Ministry

By A Correspondent- The ministry of primary and secondary education has announced that there will be no extra lessons over the school holidays.

In a statement ministry of primary and secondary education, permanent secretary Mrs Tumisang Thabela said the ministry came to the decision, as lessons were not interrupted during the term. The Chronicle cites Mrs Thabela as saying:

This decision is informed by the fact that lessons have not been interrupted this term hence the need to give pupils time to rest.

Some schools in Zimbabwe have been offering extra lessons during school holidays to help students catch up or get ahead.

For years, there have been discussions and policies in Zimbabwe regarding the regulation of extra lessons.

In 2019, the Zimbabwean government announced that they would be banning all forms of extra lessons and holiday schools, to promote equal opportunities and reduce the burden on parents to pay for additional education.

Some schools and or teachers have, however, continued with extra lessons.

Poll Re-run Over Violence In Primaries

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has ordered a re-run of Zanu-PF primary elections in areas where violence was recorded.

Mnangagwa said this while addressing the politburo yesterday. The party primaries, which were characterised by violence and intimidation, may see some candidates being disqualified.

Addressing journalists after the politburo meeting last night, Zanu-PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa said Mnangagwa was very clear on the issue of violence.

“One aspect which came out is that if there were any instances of violence in any particular constituency or ward, the President is a hardliner, he is on record for zero tolerance to violence and was very clear that charity begins at home,” he said.

“If there were instances of violence carried [out] by either or both of the candidates there could be some disqualifications. If the violence was mutual there are going to be some re-runs,” added Mutsvangwa

“I am not going to announce when the re-runs will be because we would like to have a comprehensive list, when the whole process is done we will come to you,” he added.

“Zanu-PF is a big house and anybody can come to the house,” he said.

Violence was reported across the country in the Zanu-PF elections which were held last week. In some areas there were allegations of gunshots having been fired, kidnapping and rape.

Several Zanu-PF bigwigs fell by the wayside in the weekend bloodbath which has resulted in acrimony within the party.

George Charamba Slammed For Seeking To Gag Journalists

Human rights lawyers group, the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) has condemned Presidential spokesperson George Charamba over his recent threats against journalists who reported on the Al Jazeera documentary exposing gold smuggling and money laundering.

Charamba chillingly warned journalists not to repeat and report what is contained in the documentary titled Gold Mafia, which according to Al Jazeera Investigative Unit, was recorded after the “infiltration of four gold smuggling gangs and reveals a giant money laundering and sanctions-evasion scheme in Southern Africa” and warned that some undisclosed “brickbats” would visit those who elect to do so.

In a statement, ZLHR said threats by Charamba were a desperate attempt to stop the publication and consumption of the documentary that revealed intricate details around the gold dealings involving influential people close to the executive.

“In what amounts to a bizarre act of extraordinary intimidation, one faceless social media enthusiast, who identifies himself as Tinoedzazvimwe1 on micro-blogging website, Twitter, blatantly threatened media practitioners and labelled them as “reckless journalists” simply for reporting on the contents of a
corruption-exposing documentary broadcast by Al Jazeera Investigative Unit and calling on those implicated to be held to account for their actions,” ZLHR said.

The rights advocacy group said gatekeeping antics by Charamba would not change people’s opinions or generate public support for corrupt activities happening in the gold sector, adding that government should not protect public figures from public scrutiny.

“Such gatekeepers need to understand that suppressing journalists will neither change people’s opinions nor generate public support for the commission of corrupt activities,” ZLHR added.

ZLHR urged the government to bring those responsible for the shameless attacks on media practitioners to justice and ensure that all journalists can do their jobs without fear of intimidation or reprisals.

The bullying of media practitioners comes at a time when Zimbabwe is already hogging the spotlight for all the wrong reasons after introducing retrogressive amendments to the Private Voluntary Organisations Amendment Bill and introducing so-called patriotism provisions amendments in the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, which have the effect of curtailing and stifling the operations of non-governmental organisations.

Armed Robbers Raid Kwekwe Abattoir

Armed robbers got away with a total of US$11 000 in cash after raiding an abattoir and a homestead in two separate incidents in Kwekwe.

According to Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko both incidents occurred on Wednesday night.

In the first incident, about eight men armed with pistols, iron bars, and machetes arrived at Bellevue Abattoir just outside Kwekwe CBD and threatened workers and security with death.

“They demanded cash while threatening the workers and security guards, prompting the workers to surrender US$3 511 cash. They proceeded to blast open a safe which was in the store room and took US$813 and vanished after tying the workers with cables,” said Inspector Mhaoko.

In the second incident, a group of about six men armed with axes, machetes, and iron bars broke into a house in Redcliff’s Millennium Park suburb.

“They threatened the five occupants who were in the house demanding cash. They ransacked the house and took US$6 243 and seven cellphones before vanishing into the darkness,” he said.

Police are now appealing to anyone with information which may lead to the apprehension of the suspects to approach the nearest police station.

ED Throws Uebert Angel Under The Bus

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has stripped presidential envoy and ambassador-at-large self-styled Prophet Uebert Angel of his diplomatic status in the aftermath of a major fallout from Al Jazeera’s corruption-busting investigation on gold smuggling and money laundering.

Mnangagwa’s spokesman George Charamba wrote on Twitter:

“Appointment to diplomatic post means you further the interests and image of the country which appoints you as a representative of the Head of State of that country.

“Once your actions run counter to both objectives, you are stripped of that title and all which goes with it.

“This basic remedial ADMINISTRATIVE ACTION which stands quite apart from any legal action your actions might attract. It is that simple.

“You serve at the mercy of the appointing authority for as long he retains trust and confidence in you and in your competence to keep and protect the dignity of the STATE!!!! Understood?”

CCC Councilor Nabbed Over Criminal Abuse Of Office

By A Correspondent- Harare City Council’s acting town clerk Phakhamile Mabhena Moyo and Citizens Coalition for Change councillor Happymore Gotora appeared in court yesterday facing criminal abuse of office charges.

Moyo, who was represented by Obey Shava, was remanded in custody to Monday after the lawyer filed a notice to challenge placement on remand, while Gotora was released on $100 000 bail.

On Wednesday, five councillors appeared in court over similar charges after they allegedly unlawfully allocated themselves industrial and commercial stands.

It is alleged that the accused persons executed their plan in two meetings held on November 14, 2022 and December 14, 2022.

The State alleges that in executing their plan, they devised a plan whereby they would deliberately abscond meetings in which the issue of the allocation of stands to themselves was being discussed.

Duo Nabbed Over Marijuana

By A Correspondent- Police in Macheke, Mashonaland East province, have arrested two neighbouring farmers who allegedly cultivated more than 100 marijuana plants in their maize fields.

Kudakwashe Jarasi (37) and Suprise Chitate (age not given) of Plot 13 and 12, Mt Pleasant Farm, are currently assisting police with investigations.

Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi confirmed the arrest of the two and applauded the community for taking part in the arrest of the farmers.

“Police arrested two men in Macheke and discovered a number of dagga (mbanje) plants in maize fields with an average height of two metres. We applaud the community for notifying police which led to the arrest of the suspects,” Chazovachiyi said.

On March 28, at around 9am, police went to the area after receiving a tip off that the two farmers were cultivating mbanje.

The law enforcers recovered six plants in a maize field at Chitate’s plot.

After further searches, police found more plants in their gardens before discovering already harvested plants of dagga in a scotchcart.

Police proceeded to Plot 13, owned by Jarasi, where they allegedly recovered 82 plants in the  maize field and more plants in his garden.

The plants were uprooted and the two were arrested.

They went on to recommend the illegal allocation of commercial and or industrial stands in various locations to a total of 14 councillors and 14 senior council officials and one Member of Parliament.

On November 29, 2022, the 1914 ordinary council meeting adopted the recommendations by the committee chaired by Mande to allocate the commercial and industrial stands.

It is alleged that in terms of Ministry of Local Government circular 12 (cross referenced CX/7) dated March 18, 2020, a councillor who does not have a residence within his or her ward is entitled a single residential stand.

If they need a commercial or industrial stand, they have to follow the normal process like any other person.

The State alleges that in acting the way they did, the accused persons unduly favoured themselves.

MPs Demand Ministerial Statement Over Media Threats

By A Correspondent- Legislators have asked for  Information and Publicity minister Monica Mutsvangwa to issue a ministerial statement explaining why government has threatened journalists reporting on the Al Jazeera documentary which exposes alleged money-laundering and graft in the gold sector.

The threats were made on Wednesday by presidential spokesperson George Charamba, who described the Al Jazeera exposé as a “phoney documentary” and warned that journalists could be charged for amplifying it.

Opposition Member of Parliament (MP) Edwin Mushoriwa (CCC) raised a matter of national interest in the National Assembly yesterday, demanding to know why journalists exposing alleged corruption in the country were being threatened.

“The presidential spokesperson issued a chilling threat to the media fraternity in respect to the Al Jazeera documentary. The warning given to the media reminds us of what resulted in the bombing of the Daily News in 2001.

On Wednesday, we were waiting for the Information minister to come to the House so that we ask her questions over the issue, but she did not come. In our view this is an important issue to Zimbabweans and the media. We want the minister to explain whether or not our own government is no longer committed to the freedom of the Press. Mutsvangwa must come and give us an explanation on this matter,” Mushoriwa said.

Zanu-PF chief whip Pupurai Togarepi then exchanged harsh words with Mushoriwa demanding that he must withdraw his statement.

“Mushoriwa cannot talk about people that are not in Parliament,” Togarepi said.

Acting Speaker of the National Assembly, Tatenda Mavetera responded:  “When the minister comes, can you pose that question to her.”

Business Operators, City Council Clash Over Shop License Fees

BUSINESS operators in Harare are up in arms with the city council after the local authority hiked shop licence fees by over 1 000 percent.

It never rains but pours for small to medium-scale enterprises in Harare that are at loggerheads with the local authority over the recent shop licence fee hike.

A survey conducted by ZBC News in Harare’s Central Business District indicated that non-factory shops and food purveyors are now required to part with over ZWL1 million, up from an average of ZWL200 000.

“I used to pay ZWL200 000, but when I went to pay my shop license fees for this year, I was asked to pay US$1 100,” said Business operator, Killian Muzorori.

Several shops are on the verge of closing and moving out of the central business district.

“We are on the verge of closing shop because we are failing to pay the shop licence fees. Our plea is that the responsible authorities review downwards the operator’s fees or else we are left with no option, but to close our shops which are sustaining a lot of families,” noted another business operator, Mr Chris Manguni.

Harare City Council Director of Health Services, Dr Prosper Chonzi confirmed the increase in licence fees over the phone, saying they are implementing their 2023 budget.

The Harare City Council was recently forced to review vehicle clamping fees downwards from US$137 to US$57 after a public outcry over the high clamping fees.

Many believe the opposition-led city council which has been dogged by corruption is now cashing in on innocent citizens to replenish its dry coffers by charging exorbitant fees and fines.- ZBC News

Citizens Ready To Rebuild Country

Tinashe Sambiri

Citizens are ready to rebuild the country and restore the nation’s glory days.

Kirsty Coventry Says FIFA Ban Must Remain In Place

Minister of Sport, Arts and Recreation Kirsty Coventry says that her ministry does not want to have the suspension of Zimbabwe by FIFA, lifted at this point.

FIFA suspended Zimbabwe from international football for ‘third party interference’, after the country’s sports regulatory body, the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC), suspended the Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA administration for several violations, chief among them failure to account for public funds.

The world governing body has reiterated that the suspension can only be lifted upon the unconditional reinstatement of the Kamambo-led board, while the SRC insists having the embargo lifted is not a priority, as there are more “pressing issues ” to deal with in the administration of the game.- Soccer24 News

Ansu Fati Dad Blasts Barcelona

Furore As Harare Hikes Shop License Fees

Parly Boss Arrested Over Laptop Tender Corruption

By-The clerk of Parliament, Kennedy Chokuda, has been arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission for approving a US$9K per laptop tender.

The tender was awarded to Blinart Investments but was eventually cancelled following public outrage.

ZACC says Chokuda’s actions constituted Criminal Abuse of Duty as a Public Officer.

The Ministry of Finance and Economic Development issued statements to the effect that it had cancelled two tenders to supply laptops and desktops arguing that the suppliers had overpriced the commodities.

Blinart Investments which had been awarded the tender to supply laptops was selling each laptop at USD9 264.49 and the government would have paid US$1 602 755.77 for 173 laptops.

The other company, Mid-End Computers and Hardware (P/L), demanded US$243 052.36 for 79 desktops as each was priced at USD3 076.61.

Members of the public criticised Parliament for awarding the tender saying this was grand corruption.

It also emerged that some companies, Lacheln for instance, submitted bids for the Laptop tender at Parliament for as low as $213 655 but Parliament opted for Blinart which had tendered for $1.6 million.

Blinart’s managing director, Elizabeth Muchenje, has since appeared before Parliament to explain how the company levied US$9 264.49 per laptop to the Parliament of Zimbabwe.

Addressing the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) committee, Muchenje said the laptop prices reached a price of US$9 264.49 each because they were high-end laptops with seven other accessories per laptop.

Muchenje said there was the search HP Spectra 32GB laptop, Laptop Stand, Laptop Backup, HDMI Adapter, USB Adapter, Wireless Mouse search HP, Laptop pouch, and search Microsoft Professional Office 2019.

What Are TheSymptoms Of Cholera?

Nick Mangwana Dressed Down-In-Public By Grace Mugabe Brother

Former First Lady Grace Mugabe’s cousin, and the new ZANU PF National Political Commissar Dr Mike Bimha has dressed down govt spokesperson Mangwana. Bimha says preliminary results of the party’s primary elections will only be final after being endorsed by the Politburo, reversing Mangwana’s earlier statement.

He said this as preliminary results for ZANU PF primary elections held at the weekend continue to trickle in.

Briefing journalists at the party headquarters in Harare this Monday, Dr Bimha said only the national command centre has the mandate to announce results, adding that any other results outside that channel are not official.

“The official results of the primary elections are announced by the national command centre at the party headquarters. There could be other sources giving information through Twitter, but those results are not official. We need to be very thorough and verify these results. In most areas, results are posted at the centre and they remain unofficial. These results are preliminary as they are subjected to discussion in the Politburo, after that, they can be final results,” he said.

Dr Bimha said a special adhoc tribunal will meet this Tuesday to consider complaints, some of which might affect the results.

“We allowed people to lodge complaints, an adhoc special tribunal will be meeting tomorrow, and outcomes of these complaints will affect results,” he added.

The ZANU PF primary elections attracted an overwhelming response in terms of voter turnout, forcing the party to extend the voting period in some areas to give all party members an opportunity to exercise their democratic right.- ZBC News
