One Man Robber Walks Away With Over US$100k

By A Correspondent- A lone gunman robbed the ZB Bank Victoria Falls branch on Wednesday afternoon and made off with an undisclosed amount of money – a source from the bank however said more than US$100 000 was stolen.

Sources told the Chronicle that the armed robber walked into the banking hall pretending to be a client and was wearing a wool hat and a face mask.

The suspect then proceeded to the counter and threatened bank tellers with the gun ordering everyone to lie down and they complied.

It is said that the suspect demanded cash which he loaded into a satchel that he was carrying and walked out of the banking hall.

“The suspect entered the banking hall as a client and was still inside when the bank closed. He threatened the security guard who gave in and he then went to the tills where pointed the gun and demanded cash which he loaded into a satchel and walked out through the back door,” said a source.

The suspect reportedly walked away after leaving the bank premises and started running and people outside did not suspect anything until staff from the bank came out and reported that they had been robbed. Pictures of the robbery incident started circulating on social media platforms after being captured on CCTV.

The Chronicle learnt that Glow Petroleum Service Station in Hwange was robbed by a single man on Monday using the same modus operandi.

It is reported that the suspect went away with about US$50.

Police could not readily comment on the robberies.

By A Correspondent- Handlers of Chillspot Records co-producer, Tafadzwa “Levels” Kadzimwe, have said they will comply with the authorities in their investigations.

A complaint has been lodged with the police over allegations the star record producer rap_ed his former girlfriend.

The matter has been reported at Borrowdale Police Station where Levels (33) is facing rap_e charges.

His former girlfriend, Ashley “Shashl” Moyo (23) is alleging Levels rap_ed her during the course of their relationship.

However, Levels’ handlers said they will not rely on social media reports in dealing with the issue.

“We cannot rely on social media speculation, we are still waiting to hear from the police.

“We will comply with the police once we have been approached,” said Levels’ legal representative.

The pair’s spectacular fallout has elicited in a flood of mixed reactions.

Levels and Shashl’s relationship appeared to have soured when the pair’s s_əx tape leaked over the weekend.

A number of celebrities have been fighting in Shashl’s corner.

Others are convinced Levels deliberately leaked the s_əx tape.

However, the saga took a new twist when it emerged Shashl has filed rap_e charges against Levels.

The docket has been circulating on social media with some people claiming the record producer was in hiding.

His legal representative cleared the air by saying they will comply with the authorities.

Reports yesterday appeared to suggest that Levels will give an exclusive interview with StarFM’s Ollah 7 today.

End Of The Road For Land Barons

Government has finally decided to act on land barons and illegal settlements by crafting a cocktail of strategies that include reviewing legislation and setting up courts to specifically deal with them.

The fight against land barons is also targeting illegal settlements on wetlands.

Acting Information minister Jenfan Muswere said devolution funds would be availed to the Harare City Council and other municipalities for the purpose of strengthening the local authorities’ law enforcement capacities.

“The relevant legislation is being reviewed for the Zimbabwe Republic Police and municipal police to work together more efficiently, and for the establishment of Municipal Courts,” Muswere said.

He said government had concluded mapping of settlements against approved layout plans.

The next stage involves verification of settlements to determine those which conform to approved plans to pave way for regularisation and issuance of title deeds.

“Government notes and sternly warns against the sprouting of settlements on some State-owned land. Strict action will be taken against those, including leaders, who are found in clear breach of the country’s rural and urban land use laws,” Muswere said.

“Relevant legislation will also be reviewed to allow for this.”

Muswere said 347 suspected land barons had been arrested and 91 cases were before the courts, while 57 had since been finalised, with six convictions having been secured.

Government has also rolled out a five-year plan on wetland restoration from 2021 to 2025.

Six wetlands covering a total area of 600 hectares have been rehabilitated.

With regard to housing co-operatives, a dispute resolution committee to assist the Registrar of Co-operatives has been established.

A total of 129 cases have been resolved in 2022 countrywide.

Frank Buyanga In Trouble Again

The High Court has set aside the cancellation of a warrant of arrest for South Africa-based controversial businessperson Frank Buyanga Sadiqi.

This follows an application by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe for review of Harare magistrate Judith Taruvinga’s judgment that cancelled the warrant of arrest earlier this month.

High Court judges Justices Pisirayi Kwenda and Benjamin Chikowero ruled that Taruvinga grossly misdirected herself in her judgment.

“In a masterstroke, she overturned two judgments of the superior courts … She failed to appreciate the difference between the procedure of setting aside an irregular proceeding and cancellation of an order,” the judges ruled.

“An irregular proceeding is a proceeding contrary to the law and is, thus, a nullity. Such a proceeding is a money event in the eyes of the law. It cannot be cancelled. It can only be set aside by a court of competent jurisdiction. When the magistrate thought she was merely cancelling a warrant of arrest, she was in fact setting aside her previous order thereby reviewing her own work. She had no jurisdiction to do so. She had become a functus officio.”

Functus officio refers to an officer or agency whose mandate has expired, due to either the arrival of an expiry date or an agency having accomplished the purpose for which it was created.

Justice Kwenda complained of harassment by Buyanga’s lawyers.

He said: “I could have reviewed the proceedings and if need be, obtained concurrence from another judge, peacefully in the comfort of my chambers. All hell broke loose when I decided to and did invite the legal practitioners who represented Frank Buyanga Sadiqi and the State in their capacity as officers of the court, to assist me with the legal issues which I had identified.

“As soon as they arrived, Frank Buyanga Sadiqi’s legal practitioners, three in number, ganged up against me and presented a furious argument aimed at ejecting me from the review process, accusing me of bias. If it was up to me and not a call of duty, I would have resolved never to do it again.”

Buyanga was arrested in South Africa on November 10, 2022 on charges of child trafficking, immigration law violations, forgery and contempt of court.

His arrest emanated from a protracted child custody wrangle with his ex-girlfriend Chantelle Muteswa.

The South African courts have so far denied him bail.

OFFENDING ZRP OFFICER RISKS GARNISHMENT OF SALARY OVER TORTURE

By A Correspondent- An overzealous Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer risks having
money deducted from his monthly salary to pay up damages amounting to ZWL400 000 as punishment for his misdemeanours after he severely assaulted and tortured Ednock Dube, a Chitungwiza resident, for allegedly violating curfew regulations.

Tinashe Chinopfukutwa of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) recently wrote a letter to ZRP Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga notifying him of his intention to apply in court for a garnishee order against the ZRP officer only identified as Chafunga and who is stationed at St Marys Police Station in Chitungwiza.

In the letter, Chinopfukutwa said payment of Chafunga’s monthly salary should be garnished by Salary Services Bureau, which processes government employees’ salaries, and channelled to offset a debt which he owes Dube.

Chafunga together with Matanga and Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Hon. Kazembe Kazembe were on 16 September 2022 ordered by Chitungwiza Magistrate Sheunesu Matova to pay ZWL400 000 in damages to Dube after holding them liable for the violation of the Chitungwiza resident’s fundamental rights.

The 46 year-old Dube sued Chafunga, Matanga and Kazembe in April 2021 for compensation for pain and suffering and embarrassment and humiliation after he was subjected to unlawful assault, torture and inhumane and degrading treatment at the hands of some ZRP officers who
included Chafunga.

Dube had been arrested by ZRP officers on 25 February 2021 while on his way home from work for allegedly violating the curfew regulations imposed by government in 2020 in a bid to stop the unnecessary movement of people and to curb the spread of coronavirus. He was taken to St Mary’s Police Station, where he was detained in the police cells while
Chafunga handcuffed him to a pole and assaulted him with a truncheon on his head and hands.

As a result of the assault, Dube ended up nursing a fractured finger and sustained injuries to his eye and thereby limiting his eyesight.

He was then assisted by Chinopfukutwa of ZLHR and successfully sued Hon. Kazembe, Matanga and Chafunga for damages at Chitungwiza Civil Magistrates Court.

Dube is the latest person to be assisted by ZLHR to garnish the monthly salary of some offending ZRP officers for their delinquencies.

In March 2017, a Mutare Magistrate granted an application to garnish $100 per month from Constable Crispen Chikazhe in satisfaction of a judgment debt, which was granted against the police officer for his barbarism when he tortured Brighton Sanyanga, then a 19-year-old pupil
at Pafiwa High School in Mutasa District in Manicaland province.

Sanyanga, who at the time was an Advanced Level student at Pafiwa High School, was tortured by Chikazhe, who had invited him to attend at Nyanga police station to answer allegations of malicious damage to property which had happened at the school after a demonstration allegedly staged by students. Chikazhe, in an effort to extract information from Sanyanga, tortured the student physically by exposing him to electrical shock and psychologically by threatening to kill him.

Sanyanga’s lawyer Peggy Tavagadza of ZLHR intervened by suing Chikazhe on behalf of the student to ensure that the law enforcement agent paid for his cruel actions.

Sangoma’s Hubby Brings Lover Home

By A Correspondent- A sangoma, Vuyokazi Mbisa (40) left her husband alone at home and went to thwasa – but he allegedly used the opportunity to bring a nyatsi into their bedroom.

But what he didn’t know is that sangoma Vuyokazi’s ancestors showed her everything about his nyatsi.

Sangoma Vuyokazi from Ramaphosa squatter camp in Philippi said in one of her visions she saw her husband drinking wine in her dining room with a light skinned young woman.

In the second vision she saw herself fighting with the same woman while people watched. She beat the woman up and tore off her clothes. In the third one, she was again fighting with the same woman and her husband was trying to intervene but doing so in favour of the nyatsi.

“I told my now ex-husband that he was cheating with a young woman and I even told him her name but he denied it. He said I was just jealous. I told him my ancestors don’t lie but he insisted that I was imagining things.”

Vuyokazi later caught the husband with the woman sitting in her shack drinking wine. She realised she was the one she saw in her dreams.

“That’s when I ended things with him. How on earth can someone bring a nyatsi into my house while I’m busy with ukuthwasa? The disrespect was not only directed at me but at my ancestors as well,” she said.

The husband had also allegedly sold a piece of their yard to someone who erected a shack on it.

“He told me he sold the land for R8 000 but I never saw a cent of it. I knew he used that money with his nyatsi,” she said.

Mbisa said she broke up with him early in 2021. The phone number of the ex-husband given to Daily Sun doesn’t work.

Grant Mashasha Opens Up On Ceiling Ordeal. Family

By A Correspondent- Grant Mashasha, who spent more than a decade indoors, including time in the ceiling of the family home in Zengeza 3, is beginning to emerge from his nightmare.

A family spokesperson said Grant spent four days hiding in the ceiling, and not more than a decade, as has been widely reported.

She revealed Grant was afraid that someone was after his life.

Nobuhle Mashasha told H-Metro that Grant, 39, is under the care of health experts, and is gradually opening up about his ordeal.

He was confined to his home, where he spent some time in the ceiling.

His mother Gogo Plaxedes Mashasha is in custody for failing to report the death of her husband.

“We managed to meet and talk to Grant upon our arrival from Gwanda,” said Nobuhle, his niece.

From how he looked on the day he was retrieved from the ceiling, Grant has changed completely, showing a healthy, handsome face.

“He feels stressed to quickly open up about how he came to be kept indoors for 10 years.

“He told us that he had been living in a room and slept on a sofa for 10 years, not 14, as reported.

“He spent four days in the ceiling, frightened by his mother’s threats that there were people after his life.

“He is beginning to understand that there is no one after his life and is now interacting with others.

“He is still scared of answering some questions thinking that someone might still be targeting his life,” said Nobuhle.

She said they read about the death of her grandfather in H-Metro, as her grandmother never informed anyone.

She also thanked the Zengeza residents for their support, and invited those who were free to join them at their rural home in Gwanda for her grandfather’s burial.

Journalist Charged For Communicating Falsehoods

NewZimbabwe.com journalist Leopold Munhende was on 28 November 2022 charged for publishing falsehoods in a story that the online platform published on 21 September 2022.

Munhende was charged for contravening Section 31 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act. He is accused of communicating falsehoods prejudicial to the State.

The police said they charged Munhende in his capacity as the editor of the publication. However, the law enforcement agents were informed that Munhende was in fact not the NewZimbabwe.com editor, they insisted on charging him for the crime.

MISA Zimbabwe deployed lawyer Chris Mhike to represent the stricken journalist.

The police specifically allege that Munhende published an article on NewZimbabwe.com that Mnangagwa had fled protesting Zimbabweans in New York. The article said dozens of aides had to shield the Zanu PF leader at the airport.

The police said Munhende knew or realised that there was a real risk or possibility that his actions or words may adversely affect the defence or economic interests of Zimbabwe.

In the warned and cautioned statement, Mundende denied the allegations, and questioned why the police arrested and charged him when he was neither the author of the article, publisher nor the editor of NewZimbabwe.com.

Munhende was released at 17:15 hours, after about five hours of interrogation.

Dear President Comrade Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa

Dear President, Comrade Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa,

A screaming headline “Government has failed us: Zec” comes up at a time when President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has just dished out half a million United States dollars to his Ministers, over one-third of a million United States Dollars to Deputy Ministers, and forth thousand United States dollars to members of Parliament as interest-free loans. Has the government become a financial institution to give loans?

A few days before the news broke out about the interest-free loans to government ministers, deputy ministers, and members of Parliament, the European Union Delegation had donated over US$5.9 million to the Zimbabwe Elections Commission (ZEC) towards the holding of Zimbabwe’s 2023 watershed elections.

A few days after the donation to ZEC, ZEC Chairperson narrated how her organization had struggled to hold by-elections due to resource constraints, to the extent that ZEC had failed to adequately pay their election agents, yet you, President Mnangagwa, where holding on to millions and millions of United States dollars to treat your ministers with half a million United States Dollars.

Members of Parliament had long complained of poor conditions of service. Parliament has long approved free loans for the purchase of vehicles by members of parliament, and as explained by Honourable Temba Mliswa, US$30 thousand of the loan was part of the approved US$80 thousand dollars that had been budgeted as car loans. Zimbabwean parliamentarians are reportedly the least paid in the region, hence some of them cannot afford to buy cars, justifying car loans for them.

And the members of parliament are poorly remunerated because of the corrupt Zanu PF government which has allowed your relatives to loot the country’s resources. Henrietta Rushwaya, for example, was exonerated after being caught red-handed trying to illegally smuggle gold out of the country, but she is a free woman who is a regular at your visits to churches.

Fifteen Billion United States Dollars worth of diamonds vanished under Zanu PF rule as acknowledged by the late President Mugabe. So parliamentarians, whether you are Zanu PF, MDC-Alliance or CCC, or Temba Mlwisa (Independent), your Zanu PF cabinet has caused you to suffer. You may deserve the US$40 thousand dollars loan to exhaust your car loan and get $10 thousand extra because the Zanu PF government has failed you.

It’s a big surprise to contemplate what the half a million dollars United States dollars given to Ministers is for. Government ministers and their deputies in Zimbabwe are given three vehicles each, hence there is no justification to give them car loans.

They have fees for their children, salaries for their domestic workers and their accommodation paid for by the Government, hence they do not deserve loans from Government, especially since there are a lot of other important things such as paying for the services of polling agents.

The Public now knows you for who you are, Comrade President. You don’t think like a human being.

I would encourage members of Parliament from across parliament to pressurize those who gave half a million United States Dollar loans to Ministers and over three-quarters of a million dollar loans to deputy ministers what the justification for such loans was for.

The heads of any members of parliament who don’t question the loans to ministers and deputy ministers whose welfare is well taken care of must roll. It would be good if all parliamentarians can petition the authority that approved loans to ministers and deputy ministers.

Zimbabweans at large, this is an opportunity to show bad leadership the red card. Vote Emmerson Mnangagwa out.

Yours hungry and angry citizen

Charles Dzimwasha

Chamisa Speaks On Zanu PF US$40 000 MP Bribes

By- The opposition leader, CCC Nelson Chamisa, has slammed President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government for its alleged misplaced priorities.

Posting on Twitter on Wednesday, Chamisa said it is “morally and ethically wrong” for the government to give out loans to “chefs” when the majority of the country’s citizens are suffering.

This comes after the government has offered a US$40 000 housing loan to each sitting Member of Parliament (MP), US$500 000 for individual ministers, and US$350 000 for their deputies. Said Chamisa:

In any public office, any decision that prioritises self over the served is morally wrong, especially in a context where poverty pervades with citizens so hard-pressed and in circumstances of lack! Wrong leaders usually have wrong priorities.

The role of a government is to address citizens’ most urgent and pertinent needs. When this is abandoned, such a government merits replacement.

Any government that prioritises ‘chefs’ over citizens is not fit for the purpose. #CitizensFirst.

No public funds can ever be received or transacted silently. Accountability must always be full!

Arguably, the majority of CCC supporters who have expressed their thoughts on social media have criticised the party’s MPs for accepting the loans, saying they are selfish.

Last month, Chamisa claimed that the ZANU PF-led government was bribing CCC officials to destabilise the opposition party ahead of the 2023 elections. He said:

Anything that is valuable is bound to be betrayed or sold out. Economic circumstances are not for the lily-livered and the weak-kneed. Some are very sensitive to poverty and this economic environment has been very harsh.

Some would go for farms, nice cars, cattle, (and) coupons, while others will betray their birthright for a mere bowl of soup.

What is the birthright? Freedom, democracy, success and prosperity, the transformation of our country, good governance, citizen dignity — they will surrender those for their personal benefits.

But we learn from the best. (The late MDC leader) Morgan Tsvangirai never betrayed Zimbabwe.

However, CCC has not publicly stated its position on the issue of the loans, and reports suggest that only Harare North MP, Allan Norman “Rusty” Markham, has rejected the loan. | NewsDay

You Must Go, Cde Mnangagwa – An Open Letter

Robber Storms ZB Bank, Snatches US$100 000

By-An armed robber raided a ZB Bank Victoria Falls branch on Wednesday afternoon and got away with an undisclosed amount of money believed to be more than US$100 000.

The armed robber walked into the banking hall pretending to be a client and was wearing a wool hat and a face mask, the Chronicle reported.

Unsuspecting bank staff watched as the suspect pretended to be completing bank slips until other clients left and that is when he pulled out a gun.

The suspect then proceeded to the counter and threatened bank tellers with the gun, ordering everyone, to lie down and they complied.

It is said that the suspect demanded cash which he loaded into a satchel that he was carrying and walked out of the banking hall. A source told the Chronicle:

The suspect entered the banking hall as a client and was still inside when the bank closed. He threatened the security guard who gave in and he then went to the tills where pointed the gun and demanded cash which he loaded into a satchel and walked out through the back door.

The suspect reportedly walked away after leaving the bank premises and started running and people outside did not suspect anything until staff from the bank came out and reported that they had been robbed.

Pictures of the robbery incident started circulating on social media platforms after being captured on CCTV.

Ramaphosa Faces Chop

By- An independent panel probing President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala scandal has found a case against the South African head of state.

This was so despite Ramaphosa maintaining his innocence.

The section 89 panel of experts said that Ramaphosa may have committed serious violations of the law and serious misconduct in terms of the constitution.

“I have endeavoured, throughout my tenure as president, not only to abide by my oath but to set an example of respect for the constitution, for its institutions, for due process and the law.

“I categorically deny that I have violated this oath in any way, and I similarly deny that I am guilty of any of the allegations made against me,” said Ramaphosa, reiterating what he said in his submissions to the panel.
His office said it noted the report, which is due to be considered by a sitting of the national assembly on December 6, before it determines the way forward.
His spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said Ramaphosa was also applying his mind to the report and he would make an announcement in due course.
The section 89 panel findings may cause a headache for Ramaphosa when he appears before the last sitting of the National Council of Provinces to answer oral questions on Thursday afternoon.
A press briefing by Magwenya scheduled to take place on Thursday morning was cancelled following the release of the panel’s findings.
Political parties have in the meantime wasted no time baying for Ramaphosa’s blood, calling for him to step down.
National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula appointed former chief justice Sandile Ngcobo, judge Thokozile Masipa and advocate Mahlape Sello to the panel that conducted a preliminary assessment of the African Transformation Movement’s (ATM) motion of no confidence against Ramaphosa.
ATM leader Vuyo Zungula submitted a motion for the assembly to initiate an inquiry into Ramaphosa’s removal on the grounds of serious violation of the constitution or the law and serious misconduct over the theft of millions in foreign currency at his Phala Phala farm.
Zungula told TimesLIVE that the party feels “vindicated.”
“We feel vindicated and we hope that on Tuesday the members of parliament will vote to protect the constitution and the country because we can’t have a sitting head of state who has been found by an independent panel of judges that there is prima facie evidence that he has violated the constitution.” Timeove

Chinese Hospital’s VP Chiwenga Asks Nurses To Work In Zimbabwe

The Chinese Hospital patient Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has said Health workers must consider the needs of their nation before they look for opportunities elsewhere.

VP Constantino Chiwenga

The Health and Child Care Minister said this yesterday while officiating at the graduation ceremony at the school of nursing and midwifery at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital.

Govt would continue to prioritise the welfare of health personnel, but at the same time health professionals should consider the resources available.

Zimbabwe has some of the best trained medical personnel in the world and as a result has seen others, including first world countries, seeking to snap up these skilled staff.

This demand and subsequent migration has taken a heavy toll on the country’s health delivery.

Against this background, Government is now moving in to reward professionals to fend off international interest.

Yesterday’s graduation also saw Government honouring local surgeons and their supporting staff who participated in the successful separation of conjoined twins.

Their success has led to requests from other countries to have their citizens with the same conditions attended in Zimbabwe, a move that dovetails with the vision of medical tourism.

On behalf of President Mnangagwa, VP Chiwenga yesterday unveiled the Medal for Meritorious Service on the hospital and all staff that participated in the delicate separation of the twins.

A senior member of the anaesthetic team, Dr Samson Shumbairerwa, who passed on a few weeks ago was honoured posthumously.

“Human capital development is one of the national priority areas of the National Development Strategy 1,” said VP Chiwenga.

“Therefore, human capital development within the health sector is a vital component for the attainment of the other priority area in the NDS 1, that is, health and well-being.

“Strengthening health workers’ training programmes will, no doubt, play a major role in producing high-quality professional and ethical healthcare professionals.”

The training at the hospital has contributed to the provision of able nursing support in theatre and intensive care that saw the hospital twice, in 2014 and 2021, performing the ground breaking operations to separate conjoined twins at the paediatric hospital.

“You are all aware that the aforesaid surgical feat earned special recognition by the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency, Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa,” said VP Chiwenga.

“The President bestowed the Medal for Meritorious Service on the hospital which I have just unveiled today, in recognition of those who participated in that surgical operation.”

Government continued to improve the conditions of service for health personnel through momentary and non-monetary incentives as well as availing a conducive working environment for health staff.

“In the year 2023, the Ministry is focusing on the re-equipping and refurbishments of our hospitals,” said VP Chiwenga.

“The Ministry is instituting a host of interventions to improve the welfare of our healthcare staff.-state media

Girls Come Out With Better Results Than Boys

Grade 7 examination results released by the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) yesterday produced a pass rate of 40,09 percent, marginally below the 41,13 percent of last year, but girls and their 43,66 percent pass rate did a lot better than boys with a 36,22 percent pass rate.
The reasons for the slight overall decline are still to be worked out, but could be partly due to the need for schools and pupils becoming familiar with the new continuous assessment programme. There were also more children writing the examination, about 5,4 percent more, and that could also affect results.

Speaking in Harare yesterday after the announcement of the 2022 Grade Seven public examination results, Zimsec board chair Professor Eddie Mwenje said the slight drop in pass rates was unexpected since there were far fewer disruptions this year, unlike the last two years of disruptions from Covid-19.

But he did not see the tiny fluctuation as significant.

“The reasons are sometimes very difficult to establish until you do a deep analysis of the results which we do normally just to advise the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education on certain aspects. Given that this year students received much more time for learning than in the previous year, they ought to have done better.”

Zimsec director Dr Lazarus Nembaware said continuous assessment learning activity (CALA) could be one of the factors.

“It could be other reasons, which we will look into but as of now, we also think that candidates are still settling in into the CALA component. This is the second year in which CALA has been part and parcel of the examination system so it could be that and we will look into those areas more critically after the release of these results,” he said.

Continuous assessment for part of the results forces pupils to be consistent throughout the year, rather than just swotting at the last moment, and so requires pupils to work steadily throughout the year, rather in surges.

But Zimsec recorded a higher number of candidates writing the exam that did so last year. “A total of 343 169 candidates sat for the 2022 Grade Seven examinations as compared to 325 573 candidates who sat for the same examinations in 2021, showing a 5,4 percent increase in candidature, that is an additional 17 596 candidates,” said Zimsec.

“Out of the 343 169 candidates who sat for the 2022 Grade Seven examinations, 177 466 were female while 165 703 were males. The pass rate for female candidates is 43,66 percent while that of male candidates stands at 36,22 percent. The results show that female candidates out performed their male counterparts.

“A total of 323 candidates with special need sat for a range of subjects from 5 to 6. Of these, 208 wrote 6 subjects while 91 candidates with hard-of-hearing sat for 5 subjects. The pass rate for the special needs candidates in 2022 was 30.43 percent as compared to 54.88 percent recorded in 2021.”

Zimsec advised that the collection of results from regional offices would start today while the online viewing platform was activated yesterday. Heads collect the results for their school from the Zimsec regional offices from today.

The link for online viewing is reached via the Zimsec website, www.zimsec.co.zw. The 2022 examination writing session was restored to the traditional times of October after the lifting of the Covid-19 restrictions which disrupted the school calendar for the past two years, said Zimsec.

Meanwhile, the examinations for the O-Level and A=Level ended this week with Zimsec saying marking was now set to begin. -state media

Sugar Intake And Oral Health

A new Global Oral Health Status Report published today by the World Health Organization (WHO) provides the first-ever comprehensive picture of oral disease burden with data profiles for 194 countries, giving unique insights into key areas and markers of oral health that are relevant for decision-makers.

The report shows that almost half of the world’s population (45% or 3.5 billion people) suffer from oral diseases, with 3 out of every 4 affected people living in low- and middle-income countries.

Global cases of oral diseases have increased by 1 billion over the last 30 years—a clear indication that many people do not have access to prevention and treatment of oral diseases.

“Oral health has long been neglected in global health, but many oral diseases can be prevented and treated with the cost-effective measures outlined in this report,” said WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “WHO is committed to providing guidance and support to countries so that all people, wherever they live and whatever their income, have the knowledge and tools needed to look after their teeth and mouths, and to access services for prevention and care when they need them.”

Rapid increase of oral diseases

The most common oral diseases are dental caries (tooth decay), severe gum disease, tooth loss and oral cancers. Untreated dental caries is the single most common condition globally, affecting an estimated 2.5 billion people. Severe gum disease ̶ a major cause of total tooth loss ̶ is estimated to affect 1 billion people worldwide. About 380 000 new cases of oral cancers are diagnosed every year.

The report underscores the glaring inequalities in access to oral health services, with a huge burden of oral diseases and conditions affecting the most vulnerable and disadvantaged populations. People on low incomes, people living with disabilities, older people living alone or in care homes, those living in remote and rural communities and people from minority groups carry a higher burden of oral diseases.

This pattern of inequalities is similar to other noncommunicable diseases such as cancers, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and mental disorders. Risk factors common to noncommunicable diseases such as high sugar intake, all forms of tobacco use, and harmful use of alcohol all contribute to the global oral health crisis.

Barriers to delivering oral health services

Only a small percentage of the global population is covered by essential oral health services, and those with the greatest need often have the least access to services. The key barriers to delivering access to oral health services for all include:

Oral health care requires high out-of-pocket expenditures. This often leads to catastrophic costs and significant financial burden for families and communities.
The provision of oral health services largely relies on highly specialized providers using expensive high-tech equipment and materials, and these services are not well integrated with primary health care models.
Poor information and surveillance systems, combined with low priority for public oral health research are major bottlenecks to developing more effective oral health interventions and policies.
Opportunities to improve global oral health

The report showcases many promising opportunities to improve the state of global oral health including:

adopting a public health approach by addressing common risk factors through promoting a well-balanced diet low in sugars, stopping use of all forms of tobacco, reducing alcohol consumption and improving access to effective and affordable fluoride toothpaste.
planning oral health services as part of national health and improving integration of oral health services in primary health care as part of universal health coverage.
redefining oral health workforce models to respond to population needs and expanding competencies of non-dental healthcare workers to expand oral health service coverage; and
strengthening information systems by collecting and integrating oral health data into national health monitoring systems.
“Placing people at the heart of oral health services is critical if we are to achieve the vision of universal health coverage for all individuals and communities by 2030,” said Dr Bente Mikkelsen, WHO Director for Noncommunicable Diseases.

She added: “This report acts as a starting point by providing baseline information to help countries monitor progress of implementation, while also providing timely and relevant feedback to decision-makers at the national level. Together, we can change the current situation of oral health neglect.”

CCC Mourns Thabita Khumalo’s Mother

Tinashe Sambiri| CCC’s Thabita Khumalo has lost her mother.

This was announced by the party in a brief statement on Tuesday.

We are with her and the family at this difficult time,” CCC deputy spokesperson Gift Ostallos Siziba said.

USA Progress To Second Round

U.S. men’s national team coach Gregg Berhalter likened the squad’s last group match at the 2022 World Cup to a knockout game, and he wasn’t wrong.

It took every last second—including that in the nine minutes of second-half stoppage time—but the U.S. beat Iran in a match it had to win, riding Christian Pulisic’s 38th-minute goal to a 1–0 triumph and a second-place finish in Group B. England, a 3–0 winner over Wales, topped the group, meaning the Three Lions are set for a date with Group A runner-up Senegal. The U.S., meanwhile, will face the Netherlands on Saturday in what will actually be a knockout game.

Berhalter made two changes from the lineup that started against England on Friday, giving Cameron Carter-Vickers his World Cup debut in place of Walker Zimmerman, while Josh Sargent was restored to the XI after sitting vs. the Three Lions in favor of Haji Wright. Gio Reyna, whose lack of playing time has become a talking point surrounding this team, remained an option off the bench, but did not play. Carter-Vickers didn’t play at all in World Cup qualifying, and he had never partnered with the U.S.’s other center back, Tim Ream, before Tuesday.

Three of the U.S. starters (Weston McKennie, Sergiño Dest, Ream) were carrying yellow cards that they saw in the opener vs. Wales, but all remained unscathed from picking up a second, which would have resulted in a suspension for Saturday.

The U.S. avoided the worst imaginable start in the opening minute, after Iran won a free kick in the U.S. half. The curled-in service was cleared, but it also signaled how nerve-wracking an occasion this could be, each set piece an opportunity to secure the edge needed to tilt the scales.

The U.S. answered with an immediate counterattack spearheaded by Pulisic, but he took perhaps a touch too many instead of trying to find Sargent to his right, with Iran taking the ball off him and stopping the threat.- si.com

Lions Of Teranga Date Three Lions

Kalidou Koulibaly proved an unlikely matchwinner as Senegal reached the last 16 of the World Cup with a 2-1 victory over Ecuador, who are out of the tournament.

Senegal will now play the winners of Group B – the group which England currently top – on Sunday night.

The Chelsea defender’s superb volleyed winner came only two minutes after Moises Caicedo had pulled Ecuador level from a corner, a result which would have taken the South Americans through in their place.

The African side fully deserved to qualify from their World Cup group for the first time in 20 years, largely in part to a first-half performance where they blew away Ecuador, who came into the match knowing they only needed a point to progress.- Sky Sports

Mnangagwa Pleads With HH For Electricity

The Zimbabwean government is reportedly negotiating with neighbouring Zambia for additional power imports.

The development comes after indications that Kariba South Power Station might switch off due to low water levels.

Acting Information Minister Jenfan Muswere told a post-Cabinet briefing yesterday that deliberations had been made and Energy minister Zhemu Soda would update the nation soon.

Apart from the Zambia deal, Zimbabwe is banking on the expected coming online of Hwange unit 7 with an additional 300 megawatts (MW) next month.

Tests are reported to have been run although indications are that after the formal commissioning, the plant will run gradually until it optimises.

Zambia and Zimbabwe have a combined generation capacity of 2 130 megawatts at Kariba, which is on the Zambezi River that separates the two countries.

In July, Zambia declared that it had a surplus of about 1 000 MW.

According to the Zimbabwe Power Company website, Hwange Power Station is generating just 245MW, while other power stations Harare, Bulawayo, Munyati and Kariba are generating 11MW, 0MW, 14MW and 854MW, respectively, to give a total of 1 124MW, against a peak demand of 2 200 MW.

The move to engage Zambia comes after the Zambezi River Authority (ZRA) chief executive officer Munyaradzi Munodawafa said Zimbabwe had exhausted its 2022 water allocation necessitating the shutdown of the Kariba South Bank Power Station.

However, former Finance minister Tendai Biti said Zimbabwe needed a fresh 2 000MW on its national grid to meet rising demand. He told NewsDay:

You should just strike off Kariba, forget about it and look at new projects such as Batoka which can give you 2 000MW split in half between Zimbabwe and Zambia.

He said the balance comes from alternative sources, including wind, solar and independent power producers.

England Too Strong For Wales

England booked a last-16 tie with Senegal at the World Cup after thrashing Wales 3-0 at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium.

Two goals from Marcus Rashford in the second half sandwiched Phil Foden’s strike, vindicating Gareth Southgate’s decision to start the pair. Wales were hoping for an upset and the Iran versus USA result to go their way, but Rob Page and co will head home from Qatar after picking up just one point.

Wales XI: Ward; N Williams, Mepham, Rodon, B Davies; Allen, Ampadu; Bale, Ramsey, James; Moore- The Mirror

Hazard Denies Talk Of Infighting After Belgium Loss To Morocco

Eden Hazard has denied being involved in a dressing room bust-up with team-mates Kevin De Bruyne and Jan Vertonghen.

The three senior Belgium squad members reportedly clashed after the Red Devils’ 2-0 defeat to Morocco on Sunday and Romelu Lukaku had to pull his teammates apart.

Reports in Europe suggested that the violent altercation emanated from Manchester City star De Bruyne’s claims when he told reporters before the match that Belgium were ‘probably too old’ to lift the World Cup title.

But the Real Madrid forward has denied the claims of a major falling out among the Red Devils.

Hazard said during the pre-match press conference: “We had a good talk among the players. A lot has been said. We talked for an hour about good things and less good things. Now we want to win against Croatia. We now have two days to prepare.

“We have to be ready. Nothing happened in the dressing-room. Only the coach (Roberto Martinez) spoke. I spoke to Kevin De Bruyne, he does believe in the group.”

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois also warned: “If we find out whoever leaked this, it will be his last day in the national team.”

Belgium will face Croatia on Thursday in their final Group F game. The Red Devils need nothing short of a victory to qualify for the Round of 16.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Parents Bash School Head Over S*x With Pupil

PARENTS are up in arms after a Limpopo secondary school was hit by allegations of s_əxual activities involving a pupil and the deputy principal.

This comes after the deputy principal allegedly slept with a 19-year-old matric pupil.

The deputy principal was seen leaving the school on Thursday, 24 November with the pupil during a matric camp session.

When the camp ended on Friday, the school invited parents to come and collect their children’s belongings. That’s when it was discovered that the pupil was nowhere to be seen.

“The parents went to the deputy principal’s house in Lebowakgomo on Monday and found him in bed with the girl nak_ed,” said a 45-year-old villager.

The deputy principal was then beaten at his home and later taken to the school where the beating continued.

A video of the deputy principal being assaulted is doing the rounds on social media. In the video, he can be seen being stripped nak_ed and bleeding.

The angry parents can be heard saying: “You are sleeping with our children. You are ruining our school.”

Some of the pupils said most of the matric camp is no longer serving its purpose.

“They give pupils and teachers the opportunity to do wrong things. This incident is disappointing and embarrassing,” said a pupil.

Limpopo education spokesman Mike Maringa said he has seen the video on social media.

“I’m investigating it and also waiting for a formal report. If the incident is true, the man will be suspended and will undergo a disciplinary hearing,” he said.

Bus Driver Explains Coca-Cola Accident

The driver of a bus, which caused the pile-up near Coke Corner along Seke Road in Harare yesterday said he deliberately hit a Honda Fit car in front of him to avert a serious accident that could have killed many people.

There were no reports of fatalities.

Matthew Maphosa, the driver of the bus that was involved in the accident, told H Metro that he had no choice but to hit the car in front of him.

“When I applied brakes when approaching the traffic light, the brake pedal broke,” he said.

“I felt that the brake pedal was no longer working and saw that if I went the other way, I would kill people so I chose an option that would stop the bus.

“I decided to use the Honda Fit in front of me.

“I don’t know where the Isuzu came from, I just saw it on top of the Honda Fit.”

An Inter Africa bus collided with a haulage truck near the Munyati River yesterday

Maphosa said he hit the Honda Fit intentionally trying to protect the 66 people he had in the bus.

“Had I gone the other way, I was going to kill people so I was trying to avoid such a scenario and hit the Honda Fit so that the bus could stop since the brakes were no longer working,” he said.

Meanwhile, an Inter Africa bus collided head on with a haulage truck near the Munyati River yesterday.

There were also no reports of fatalities as passengers escaped with minor injuries.

Marry Mubaiwa’s Lawyer, State Clash Over Postponement Of Trial

Constantino Chiwenga’s former wife, Mary Mubaiwa, is seeking postponement of trial in a case where she is accused of the attempted murder of the State and ruling Zanu-PF party vice president.

Prosecutors accuse Mubaiwa of trying to kill Chiwenga back in 2019 when was he was hospitalised and critically ill in Pretoria, South Africa.

She denies the charges.

Mubaiwa appeared before a Harare magistrate Tuesday and, through her lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa, sought delay of the case citing a pending review at the High Court.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), opposed the delay request saying it lacked merit

“We contacted state counsel who happens to be dealing with the matter,” said the NPA representative.

“He advised that there is no application pending before the superior court, but condonation. This is no basis to seek postponement.”

Mtetwa hit back, saying, “The State prosecutor’s advice is false.

“We have now gotten to understand that not all animals are the same. What’s so special about this case that it just cannot be postponed?”

The State cited shortage of resources as one of the major reasons for opposing the defence application.

In response, Mtetwa charged; “How can you mention costs of getting two CIOs (central intelligence operatives) from town (centre) to this court?

“It would be cost ineffective for us to transport six witnesses from Pretoria, South Africa to “Zimbabwe and (pay for) their stay for approximately six months only to hear that this court has no jurisdiction to handle the matter.”

Mtetwa claimed that the two State witnesses are CIO representatives, describing one as  Chiwenga’s bag carrier, whilst the other is a former nurse.

Magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka who heard the application for postponement said a ruling would be delivered this Thursday (December 1).

Speaking after the hearing, Mubaiwa, who was in high spirits, said she was confident that “justice would prevail”.

ZEC In Desperate Bid To Silence Pachedu

In a litmus test against cyber terrorists, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) yesterday reported an anti-Zimbabwe shadowy group Pachedu to the police on a litany of allegations ranging from hacktivism to cyberterrorism.

This comes as the group, which has alleged links to some United States citizens, has openly boasted its ability to hack and manipulate the websites of not only ZEC, but also other Government departments.

In the past few weeks, Pachedu has been burning the candle to discredit ZEC ahead of next year’s harmonised elections, in an attempt to influence the manner and handling of the much-awaited polls.

The clandestine actions from Pachedu, which is linked to the CCC, include hacking of the electoral management authority’s ICT infrastructure.

This prompted ZEC yesterday to report the group to the police in a case that has been opened at Harare Central Police Station under IR111760.

ZEC spokesperson Commissioner Jasper Mangwana confirmed reporting the matter to the police.

“We have made a police report on hacktivism, impersonification, unauthorised data mining and cyberterrorism/bullying at Harare Central Police Station,” he said.

In the past, Pachedu has been red-flagged by ZEC for its covert cyberwar, especially as the group has a habit of publishing voters’ information, which is a breach of the country’s laws.

Any abuse of the security of the voters consequently attracts legal action, with ZEC charged with safeguarding the voters’ private information.

According to the Data Protection Act, any person who, “knowing or suspecting that he or she must obtain prior authority to access data, computer programme, computer data storage medium, or the whole or any part of a computer system in question; and intentionally, unlawfully and without such authority, secures access to such data, programme, medium or system; shall be guilty of hacking and liable in any of the aggravating circumstances . . . to a fine not exceeding level 14 or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding ten years or both such fine and such imprisonment..”

Using similar tactics, Pachedu in 2018 released a doctored voters roll as they tried to poke holes in the Zimbabwe electoral management body’s capacity.

Yesterday, experts said Pachedu, a group that operates in the shadows, had become a threat to Zimbabwe’s elections and called for appropriate action to be taken to flush out the “cyberterrorists”.

The alleged claim of hacktivism is thought to relate to claims that Pachedu “hacked” the ZEC website, which the group denies.

The impersonation claim, first raised by exiled former Zanu-PF politburo member Jonathan Moyo, is linked to Pachedu’s logo used as a profile picture on Twitter and looks almost similar to the ZEC logo.

18/24 Given that @PacheduZW is targeting state institutions in general – and @ZECzim in particular – to incite a nationwide RESISTANCE campaign, it should be recalled that at its formation in 2018 – to signal its regime change agenda – #Pachedu adopted #ZEC colours onto its logo! pic.twitter.com/9vxIm9GuCd— Prof Jonathan Moyo (@ProfJNMoyo) November 24, 2022

ZEC also claims illegal data mining by Pachedu, allegedly because it obtained a voters roll for examination outside the country. In a November 24 tweet posted without context, Mangwana said the Cyber Security and Data Protection Act does not allow the transfer of data to a third part in a foreign country without official authorisation.

Some of Pachedu’s known current and former members include Tafadzwa Sambiri, an IT expert; programmer and web developer William du Plooy; biomedical scientist and software engineer Freeman Chari; investment analyst and IT enthusiast Runyararo Mherekumombe and Election Resource Centre founder Topper Whitehead.

In its own public disclosure, Pachedu said it had five other members whose identifies were not revealed – one a political scientist; an auditor and statistician; a data scientist; a linguist and editor and a bio-statistician and research consultant.

ZEC chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba would approved the decision to report Pachedu to ZRP. Few believe there is a prosecutable case, with the intention appearing to intimidate Pachedu and other activists.

Zimbabwe holds key elections expected in the second half of next year as the opposition and election transparency activists continue to voice disquiet about ZEC’s alleged lack of impartiality in carrying out its election management role.

SA Authorities Raid & Shut Down Zim School

By- Authorities in South Africa have shut down a school operated by Zimbabweans.

South Africa’s Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) raided the school in Ivory Park, Johannesburg, for operating illegally.

The department last week closed down Milton Park English Foundation school which had been operating since 2018, according to IOL.

GDE spokesperson, Steve Mabona, confirmed to IOL the owners of the school were Zimbabwean nationals.

He added the department officials went to the school with the intention of closing it down but by then the owners had already fled the premises.

Mabona added the illegally-run school had been offering tuition for learners from Grade R to Grade 9, with a learner enrolment of 111 and most of them being Zimbabwean nationals.

He said according to the information they had received, the school had been operating for the past 5 months in the latest location. Mabona added:

However, the owners have been operating illegally from different densely populated locations, moving each time they are identified and closed. The said illegal school was previously shut down in 2020, whilst operating from a different location.

The officials visited the school to assess learners, a meeting will be facilitated to inform parents of developments regarding the school.

Officials will continue with such a process, however children of school going age, should be in a classroom, and as such documents or lack thereof will not be a barometer.

The department launched Operation Vala and warned the GDE would closely monitor the situation to ensure that closure is affected.

Mabona said the learners from the bogus school would be placed at neighbouring schools.

Former education MEC Panyaza Lesufi last year shut down about 20 other unregistered schools which were operating in Ivory Park.

Gospel Artist Nyaree Chanel Releases New Music Video Featuring Ti Gonzi

Gospel artist Nyaree Chanel has released a new music video for the single Ndiri Wenyasha, from her latest album, My Calling.

The UK-based singer, who released her 13-track album earlier this year is broadening her list of collaborations, teaming up with rapper Ti Gonzi.

Nyaree said: “This song is special because it speaks about how God protects us even in the gravest of circumstances.

“Working with Ti Gonzi on this project was special because in many ways the song resonates with a part of his journey as a survivor. It was also a chance for us to reach out to the younger generation particularly at a time where crime is rife – and to remind them that they have purpose beyond a life of violence.”

Directed by a Bulawayo based arts company, Afri Art and produced by Oskid, Nyaree explains that she chose Ndiri Wenyasha as her first music video project because of how poignant and relatable it is following the pandemic.

“The last three years have been challenging for us all and now, having the opportunity to not only celebrate God’s protection and grace over our lives, but the chance to work and showcase the talent we have in the music industry, especially in Zimbabwe, is a blessing.”

Plans for the future

Nyaree, who is planning to release music videos for Dhingu Satani and Shoko renyu, in the new year, is working on an EP titled I am the Anointed, due to be released before Christmas.

She is also working on a number of singles with Ti Gonzi which will be released in 2023.

Nyaree’s latest album is now available on all digital platforms, including Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify and Deezer. You can also find her music on YouTube.

Harare Magistrate Threatens Biti

By- A Harare magistrate Mrs Vongai Muchuchuti on Tuesday threatened CCC deputy President Tendai Biti after he had submitted his defence in an assault case he is facing.

Muchuchuti said Biti was repeating submissions already on record in his application for referral of his assault matter to the Apex Court.

Biti is facing charges of assaulting a Zimbabwean investor Mrs Tatiana Aleshina at the Magistrates Court in 2020.
The magistrate’s warning came after a strong objection from Deputy Prosecutor Mr Micheal Reza who told the court that Biti was repeating submissions that are already on record.
This prompted Mrs Muchuchuti to warn Biti through his lawyer Mr Alec Muchadehama.
The matter was deferred to Friday where Biti is expected to finish his application.
It’s been four months now with the State complaining against Biti for trying to smuggle in irrelevant evidence to this case.
Mr Reza is on record telling the magistrate that Biti was taking back the court to the 20th century which is irrelevant in the current assault matter. “I thought I had heard everything until today where a 2020 assault case is referred back to irrelevant things that happened in the 20th century,” said Mr Reza. Vic Falls Kingdom Hotel Shuts Down

The country’s largest hotel group, African Sun Limited (ASL), has announced the closure of the 294 roomed Kingdom Hotel in Victoria Falls effective 5 January 2023.
In July, the hotel group announced its pending exit citing the lease tenure with property owner- First Capital Bank (FCB).

According to the July notice, the hotel group said it had hoped to secure at least a 10 year lease but FCB was offering two years.

The hotel has been under the African Sun stable since 1966 and was leased from Makasa Sun (Private) Limited.

In a letter dated 24 November, African Sun chief executive officer, Mr Peter Saungweme said: “Further to the formal announcement, which African Sun Limited (African Sun) released to the market on 4 July 2022, we would like to inform you that the Kingdom at Victoria Falls Hotel (“the Hotel”) shall be closing for business with effect from 5 January 2023,” he said.

The letter, which is addressed to the Travel Trade Partner, adds: “we would like to thank you for your past business and support over the years and look forward to continuing working with you at our other ten hotels, which include the Victoria Falls Hotel and Elephant Hills Resort and Conference Centre, which are also situated in the City of Victoria Falls.”

In the July notice, Africa Sun said the exit is coming after it had been successful in the 2021 tender for the hotel’s lease.

“However, despite this success, a mutually agreeable lease tenure could not be reached, with the landlord only willing to offer a lease of two years against the group’s ask of a tenure of at least ten years in its tender.

“The ten-year lease tenure was and is still considered as being the minimum the company would need to recoup and realise a return from its envisaged investment in the hotel,” reads the notice.

“The decision to exit the hotel has not been an easy one for the board, but was necessary and unavoidable to protect shareholder value in the circumstances.” -Chronicle

Lions Of Teranga Roar Into Round Of 16

Marry Tackles Chiwenga

By- Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga will face his ex-wife Marry in the trial of a case in which he is accusing his former wife of attempting to kill him in South Africa two years ago.

Marry Mubaiwa, Beatrice Mtetwa is representing, Chiwenga’s ex-wife in the trial, which kicked Tuesday.

She faces several charges that include money-laundering, and trying to fraudulently upgrade her marriage without Chiwenga’s knowledge.
Mubaiwa was recently acquitted of assault charges.
The State will be represented by George Manokore and Lancelot Mutsokoti.
Mubaiwa had questioned the jurisdiction of the matter which is alleged to have happened in Pretoria, South Africa.
Mtetwa argues that she must be tried in the province or region where the alleged offence was committed, adding that the case lacks jurisdiction.
“The accused contends that from the State’s allegations, the alleged offence was wholly committed outside the borders of Zimbabwe and there is no allegation or other legal contention that the alleged offence had impact or intended impact on Zimbabwe which would clothe the court with the necessary jurisdiction,” Mtetwa said.
Sometime in June 2019, Chiwenga was airlifted to South Africa for medical attention accompanied by Mubaiwa, his security team comprising provincial intelligence officer John Allen Lifa, Major Blessing Muringi, one Major Nyoni and Sergeant Andrew Mugari, as well as medical health staff comprising Warren Sibanda and Health deputy minister John Mangwiro.
On arrival, Mubaiwa allegedly kept Chiwenga at Sheraton Hotel in Pretoria for more than 24 hours without taking him for medical treatment, leading to his health condition deteriorating.
Security forced its way and took the VP to Netcare Hospital, where he was placed under intensive care by one Doctor Sieling.
He had an intravenous giving set and central-venous catherer inserted in his body to sustain his life for weeks in a private ward.
On July 8, at around 2000 hours, Mubaiwa allegedly tried to harm Chiwenga after ordering his security officers, Mugari and Nyoni to excuse her, indicating that she needed privacy.
It is alleged that she removed Chiwenga’s life support machines, which resulted in Chiwenga bleeding profusely, and his condition further deteriorated.
She left the ward and was allegedly intercepted by hospital security personnel as she exited the door.
Hospital security then alerted nursing staff which took Chiwenga back to his hospital bed and reconnected the lifesaving machines.

Zimbabwe Exemption Permits Latest

By- A court case in which the Helen Suzman Foundation (HSF) is challenging the termination of the Zimbabwe exemption permits(ZEP) has been moved to April 2023.

The case was set down for Monday, and will now be heard in April, Times Live said quoting Nicole Fritz the director of the foundation.

Nicole Fritz said a three-bench panel of judges would hear the matter when it resumed. Said, Fritz:

We are disappointed that hearing dates could not be secured earlier in that we are anxious to have the matter heard by the courts and for a just resolution to be determined.

HSF is challenging Home Affairs minister Aaron Motsoaledi’s decision to terminate the ZEP on June 30, 2023.

The HSF wants the high court in Pretoria to declare the decision by Motsoaledi to terminate the ZEP — and his limited extension to the permit — unlawful, unconstitutional and invalid.

The application is being opposed by the home affairs minister.

On the case only being heard in 2023, Zimbabwe Immigration Federation chair Luke Dzviti said:

For now it’s not a train smash, I am not really disappointed because we still have a grace period. It’s fine as long as it happens before Zimbabwean nationals who are ZEP holders become illegal immigrants.

Dzviti said they were fine with the home affairs directive which says no one can be arrested or deported.

Mighty Brazil Progress To Round Of 16

A superb finish by Casemiro is enough to give Brazil victory over Switzerland and guarantee a place in the knock-out stages of the football World Cup in Qatar.

Brazil’s coach, Tite, had named nine forwards to his squad, but it took a defensive midfielder to break the scoreless deadlock in the 83rd minute of Monday’s match. Casemiro made an audacious strike from the outside of his boot, which took a tiny deflection off defender Manuel Akanji’s backside.

The result at Stadium 974 means Brazil, five-time world champions, qualify comfortably for the round of 16 with a game against Cameroon still to play in the group stage of the tournament.

Switzerland sit second in Group G after a thrilling six-goal draw between Serbia and Cameroon earlier in the day left both teams with a point each.

Brazil forward Neymar stayed at the team’s hotel, treating a right ankle injury sustained in the opener against Serbia. Team doctors have not yet given a timetable for his return – or said if he will return at all. In his absence, former Watford striker Richarlison took centre stage in Brazil’s attack but couldn’t find a way to score and was substituted for Gabriel Jesus in the 74th minute.

Switzerland managed not a single shot on target but were able to keep Brazil at bay for the majority of the match. The scoreless first half was a fairly even-handed affair.

Vinicius Jr thought he had given Brazil the lead with a shot from inside the area after a pass by Casemiro in the 64th minute, but a video review spotted Richarlison offside in the build-up to the strike.

After Casemiro’s lightning 83rd minute goal, Brazil looked likely to score a second – despite a brief flurried counterattack from the Swiss – as Vinicius Jr tried to take on Akanji when he could have passed. Moments later, he instead fed a ball to Rodrygo, only to see the forward’s shot blocked out for a corner.

Brazil, who have not lost a World Cup group stage game in 17 matches, are the second team to qualify for the round of 16 after defending world champions France.- Al Jazeera

Black Stars Overcome South Korea

AL ARRAYN, Qatar, Nov 28 (Reuters) – Ghana survived a furious late siege of their goal to revive their World Cup chances in a dramatic Group H clash on Monday, holding off South Korea to secure a 3-2 victory that was greeted with as much relief as it was celebration.

The African side earned their first points of the tournament and can still reach the second round on the back of two goals from Mohammed Kudus and desperate defending in a roller-coaster match at the Education City Stadium.

Mohammed Salisu scored the opener and Kudus headed home as Ghana took a 2-0 halftime lead, only to allow South Korea to fight back with two goals in three minutes from Cho Gue-sung, who epitomised his side’s fighting spirit by attacking the ball to head home twice in quick succession.

Ghana snatched back the lead within seven minutes, however, taking advantage of their one chance in the second half for Kudus to deliver the winner.

“It was emotional with the ups and downs. South Korea did very well, pushed and pressed us,” said Ghana coach Otto Addo.

“We were struggling, we wanted to stop the crosses, but we didn’t put enough intensity into stopping the crosses. There was passionate defending and very good goalkeeping … in the end we were a bit lucky.”

MIXED EMOTIONS

Ten minutes of stoppage time only served to heighten the drama, culminating in a contrast of emotions at the final whistle as an exhausted Ghana celebrated and the Koreans were left in tears.

They had fought back in spectacular style, making only one second-half error which ultimately proved costly.

Ghana’s first-half lead was down to two perfect crosses from the left delivered by the right-footed Jordan Ayew – both perfectly weighted and with the requisite pace to catch out the Korean defence.

The first in the 24th minute caused chaos and Salisu snapped up the loose ball to score and the second 10 minutes later found Kudus who glanced a header into the net. – Reuters

Marry Faces Chiwenga

By- Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga will face his ex-wife Marry in the trial of a case in which he is accusing his former wife of attempting to kill him in South Africa two years ago.

Marry Mubaiwa, who Beatrice Mtetwa is representing, was remanded Tuesday for trial.
Chiwenga was later flown to China where he recovered and came back to the country and filed a report on November 27, 2019, to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission.
Mubaiwa was arrested on December 14, 2019, but she denied the allegations.

Police Name Mwenezi Poison Victims

By- The four Mwenezi villagers who died of suspected chemical poisoning have been identified.

They include a woman, her octogenarian mother, her son-in-law, and a neighbour.

The Herald reports that the four died within two days from suspected chemical poisoning amid fears they might have inhaled a fumigant pesticide used to preserve grain in Chitanga communal lands.

Flora Siziba (56) of Masisinyani village in the Mateke Hills area died last Friday together with her mother Raila Gula (90) at the former’s homestead in a space of a few hours last Friday after the pair allegedly started complaining of severe stomach pains before sweating profusely and vomiting.
Siziba’s neighbour Thomas Ndavani (age not given) who visited her homestead after learning of her tragic death also allegedly died a few minutes after his arrival when he also complained of severe stomach pains before starting to sweat heavily and vomiting.
The bodies of Siziba, her mother and Ndavani’s were taken to Neshuro Hospital for a post-mortem on the same day after police had attended the scene.
However, tragedy struck again on November 26 after Siziba’s son-in-law who stayed at her homestead, Shepherd Mukachana (age not given) also started complaining of stomach pains and was rushed to Gezani clinic where he was treated and discharged together with Siziba’s daughter-in-law one Vimbai Chirelele.
Later on the same day, Mukachana’s condition allegedly deteriorated as he also complained of severe stomach pains before starting to sweat heavily and vomiting. He died around 3pm.
According to police, Chirelele is still in stable condition and recuperating at home.
Mwenezi police have since dispatched a team to Siziba’s homestead to collect Mukachana’s body and for a post-mortem at Neshuro Hospital.
Police said they suspect the deaths were caused by chemical poisoning linked to inhaling a fumigant pesticide though conclusive investigations are still underway.
Masvingo Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident and referred all queries to national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi.

Zanu PF Nolonger Has People On The Ground

Zanu-PF district co-ordinating committee (DCC) elections in Chikomba, Mashonaland East province, failed to take off at the weekend due to a low turnout by district chairpersons.

The elections were meant to elect a new district chairperson following the suspension of Alfred Pedzisa who was accused of insubordination, among a litany of other charges.

Pedzisa has since appeared before a provincial disciplinary hearing where it was recommended that he be relieved of his duties.

Senior party officials said the elections had to be postponed and blamed the low turnout on miscommunication.

“The elections were postponed due to low turnout. We were expecting some chairpersons to be around for a smooth flow of the process, but that was not the case. Maybe there was miscommunication, moreover the agricultural season is now upon us, our members are busy with planting,” said a senior party official who refused to be named.

The provincial leadership also suspended Murewa DCC chairperson Israel Maliki, accusing him of disrespecting village heads.

Zanu-PF Mashonaland East provincial spokesperson Tatenda Mavetera said: “There was miscommunication, it was requested that chairpersons come as observers and they did not understand that, and few came. We have again invited them to come and enhance efficiency and transparency of elections.”

Mnangagwa Unqualified To Speak Of Political Tolerance, Says Musengezi

Controversial Zanu-PF member, Sybeth Musengezi, has once again dragged President Emmerson Mnangagwa over hot coals labelling him a hypocrite, who was unqualified to speak of political tolerance when he presides over persecution of his opponents.

Musengezi rose to infamy after challenging Mnangagwa’s legitimacy in the 2017 coup aftermath, arguing he assumed the presidency through unconstitutional means.

The matter is still pending before the courts.

In his latest affront, Musengezi questioned Mnangagwa’s sincerity in calling on aspiring candidates in 2023 harmonised elections to exercise political tolerance at a time politicians like Zengeza West lawmaker, Job Sikhala are languishing in remand prison.

He also mentioned of the unfair treatment of little-known Perere Kunyenzwa.

He was responding to a report by South African television station, eNCA, that the 80-year-old Zanu-PF leader was urging for political restraint among contestants to ensure peaceful polls.

“What political tolerance is Mnangagwa talking about when Hon Sikhala and Perere Kunyenzwa are languishing in remand prison on political charges,” Musengezi tweeted.

“Opposing voices are being arbitrarily arrested, killed, beaten up, harassed and petrol bombed. Hypocrites indicate right then turn left.”

Sikhala has been in remand prison since June following his arrest on charges of inciting violence that rocked the funeral wake of slain Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) activist, Moreblessing Ali.

Godfrey Sithole and 14 other CCC activists charged alongside Sikhala were recently admitted to bail, a move viewed as persecution of the firebrand opposition politician.

Mliswa Demands Answers On Doug Munatsi’s Death

By A Correspondent| Norton legislator, Temba Mliswa has demanded that government act and deliver on investigations surrounding the mysterious death of Zimbabwe Investment Development Agency (ZIDA) Chief Executive Officer Douglas Munetsi saying his family deserves to know for closure.

Munatsi died on 29 November 2021 after fire broke out at his apartment in the Avenues area of Harare central business district.

Posting on Twitter, Mliswa said;

It’s a year, today since Doug Munatsi was found dead and we still don’t know what really happened to him. It’s disturbing that such a high profile figure died under such suspicious circumstances and yet the Gvt cannot account for what happened.

His family deserves to know what happened for closure. I was close to Doug& regarded him as a brother, it’s very disturbing that we remain in the dark. This leads to conspiracy theories& unhealthy speculations. Answers should be given on what happened.

‘Unexplainable’ Harare Accident Breaks The Internet

A traffic accident that happened in Harare at the corner of Seke and Diepe Road has shocked Zimbabweans who are failing to understand what caused the accident.

According to ZBC News Online, the accident involved 11 cars including an Isuzu pick-up truck that landed on top of a Honda Fit which collided with a bus and another Honda Fit Wagon.

With the accident pictures circulating on social media, there is no explanation on what could have caused the accident and the cars ended up like they are appearing on the widely circulated images.

There is a general suspicion though that most accidents on Zimbabwean roads are caused by Honda Fit, mythically believed to be one of the strongest cars around.

Women Turn To ZGC Over Magaya

By A Correspondent- A number of women who were allegedly sexually abused by Walter Magaya have responded to the call made by the Zimbabwe Gender Commission (ZGC) for them to make submissions, according to The Herald.

The leader of the Prophetic, Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries church is accused of sexually abusing several women and girls.

Speaking during a recent press briefing on the preliminary findings of the national inquiry on sexual exploitation and abuse of young girls and child marriages, ZGC chairperson Commissioner Margaret Mukahanana-Sangarwe said:

There have been some complainants that have come through but we can not share at the moment how many they are.

We have had some responses in terms of some people coming forward and we are still waiting for more responses. We will inform you as we get more responses from the complainants.

Investigations into allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse of women by Magaya started last month, according to ZGC.

Previously the probe had been halted in 2019 after Magaya filed an urgent application at the High Court questioning the validity of the investigations.

However, the courts ruled in favour of the Commission paving way for the continuance of the probe.

The Commission is still calling on members of the public who might have complaints against the clergyman to come to present their grievances.

Magistrate In No Show As Mahere Awaits Judgement On ‘Publishing Falsehoods’ Case

Judgement in a case Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) spokesperson, Fadzai Mahere is accused of publishing falsehoods has been postponed for the fourth time.

The presiding magistrate Taurai Manuwere was in no show Monday and no explanation was given for his failure to turn up.

This became the fourth time progress stalled since the State closed its case in August this year.

Mahere said this is disappointing.

“Its only in Zimbabwe you get arrested and jailed for tweeting against police brutality. We applied for discharge at the close of the State case in August…

“The magistrate did not show up. We were advised to come back on 8 Dec at 11.15am. No reason was given for his non-attendance. Last time, we were advised the matter had been mis-diarised and the ruling wasn’t ready. This is the 4th time we’ve attended and judgment isn’t ready,” she complained.

It has been two years after Mahere‘s arrest, with prosecution having dragged due to non-cooperation of State witnesses.

Mahere is accused of publishing falsehoods in a case involving a woman whose child was erroneously reported to have been struck and killed by a baton wielding Harare police officer who was enforcing the country’s lockdown rules earlier during the month.

The mother of the child is one Rebecca Musariri.

Also charged with the same offence are CCC lawmaker Job Sikhala and government critic, Hopewell Chin’ono.

ZRP refuted the claim and said the child at the centre of the storm was alive.

A video of the incident went viral in 2020, with the mother wailing while holding onto a police officer who “allegedly assaulted her baby to death.”

ED, Chiwenga “Bags” $69.2million In Salaries

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy Constantino Chiwenga will take home $69,2 million as their combined basic annual salaries in 2023, the latest proposed estimates of expenditure (Bluebook) have revealed.

Finance minister Mthuli Ncube announced the national budget last Thursday.  estimates of expenditure show that Mnangagwa and Chiwenga will earn $5,8 million each as monthly salaries. The wages are equivalent to US$8 964 at the prevailing official rate.

The estimates of expenditure show that in 2022, the unaudited out-turn to September under the President and Vice-Presidents’ salaries and wages vote stood at $18,6 million, while the revised estimate was $10 million more, at $28,1 million.

For the year 2021, the unaudited out-turn was pegged at $32,2 million with indicative estimates for 2024 for Presidential salaries pegged at $95,1 million and $105,9 million, respectively.

In terms of section 102(1) and (2) of Chapter 5, as read with the Sixth Schedule, part 4(20) of the Constitution, which deals with remuneration of Presidents and Vice-Presidents, their salaries must be charged upon and paid out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund.

“I Am Not Well At All”: Marry Mubaiwa

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s ex-wife, Marry Mubaiwa is returning to her old elegant self if any of her recent pictures are anything to go by.

Marry was spotted earlier today at Harare Magistrates Court looking classy, a development that has reminded many of her modelling days.

This comes a few weeks after she warned that she is contemplating suicide and people should not be surprised if she takes the route.

Mubaiwa has been critically ill for several months after she was diagnosed with acute lymphoedema. Her several applications to seek treatment outside the country were rejected by the courts which led to her right arm being amputated in September.

The former model and video vixen said that she was considering suicide due to the extreme pain that she is in adding that she is not mentally well as she is suffering from depression.

Speaking to a South African publication, Sunday Times, Marry Mubaiwa said,

“I am not well at all, and I feel that if I had gone out of the country to seek better treatment, I would be better, but the court refused to give me my passport as part of bail conditions.

“Especially not seeing my children is very painful to me. Sometimes I start having thoughts of committing suicide — and don’t be surprised [if I do]. I have not spoken to my kids, and I have not seen them since 2019.”

The former second lady added,

“Our children have nothing to do with what is happening between us … These are young children. I always ask myself what he says to them about me. These are kids who need their mother.”

Mubaiwa also insisted that she is innocent of all charges laid against her.

“I spent nights and days crying, asking God: ‘Why did you let this happen to me?’ Everything I am accused of, I didn’t do it.”

“Right now, I am so sick. I am having challenges with my legs that are swollen and so painful, and the doctors told me after the amputation of my right arm that my body has too much fluid.”
