Chiwenga’s Aide Swindled

Former Alouvine Investments Private Limited company director, Rudo Sarudzayi Mapfumo, allegedly defrauded deputy Minister of Health and Child Care Dr John Mangwiro of money after she resold a property she had sold him sometime in 2012 without his knowledge.

Mapfumo is said to have resold stand No 16911D Old SPCA Complex along Seke Road to Funwell Zvenyika after initially selling it to Dr Mangwiro for US$38 855.

She also allegedly later forged the signature of a law firm’s secretary on a notice for set down of trial to earned herself a default judgment that allowed her to evict Dr Mangwiro from the property.

Mapfumo is expected to appear in court on October 24 on fraud and forgery charges.

Circumstances leading to her arrest are that sometime in 2012, Dr Mangwiro bought Alouvine Investments Pvt Ltd, which owned stand No 16911D Old SPCA Complex along Seke Road in Harare from Mapfumo for US$38 855.

They then agreed that Dr Mangwiro gives Mapfumo a Nissan double cab valued at US$6000, a bull and US$6 000.

It is said that they also agreed that Dr Mangwiro would settle Alouvine Investment’s outstanding ZESA bills of US$5 171.28 and US$10 905 to City of Harare.

After making full payment, Dr Mangwiro occupied the premises and built a bay with four compartments for hardware, a butchery, cold room, bathing room, toilet, a two roomed staff quarters, steel shed and a block of offices.

When Dr Mangwiro was in the process of changing ownership of the property, Mapfumo allegedly sold the same property to Funwell Zvenyika.

Upon hearing of the sale, Dr Mangwiro attempted to engage Mapfumo but to no avail, it is said.

It then prompted him to engaged the services of Mbidzo, Muchadehama and Makoni Legal Practitioners to handle the matter.

In 2016 Mapfumo allegedly applied for an eviction order at the Harare Civil Court against Dr Mangwiro for him to vacate the property saying he had failed to clear outstanding bills at City of Harare.

On October 10, 2016, Mapfumo allegedly forged the signature of Rudo Kurebgasekwa, who was a Legal Clerk at Mbidzo, Muchadehama and Makoni Legal Practitioners, to appear as if she had received the Notice of Set Down for trial on behalf of Dr Mangwiro.

Mapfumo then allegedly took the Notice of Set Down for trial with Kurebgasekwa’s forged signature to the Harare Civil Court and presented it as a return of service.

Resultantly, a default judgment ordering Dr Mangwiro to vacate Old SPCA Complex was granted, since he had failed to attend the hearing.

On April 3, 2017, Dr Mangwiro was evicted from the property by the Messenger of Court.

He later learnt that Mapfumo had forged Kurebgasekwa’s signature on the Notice of Set Down for trial and lodged a complaint with the police leading to her arrest.

Dr Mangwiro is said to have been defrauded on US$100 000 in the transaction.

Sikhala, Sithole Give Up Freedom Bid

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislators Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole have abandoned their planned appeal against a magistrate’s ruling denying them bail for the fifth time.

The two MPs, who are facing charges of inciting public violence, have now shifted attention to their earlier plea to be given State papers in order to prepare for their trial.

Sikhala and Sithole Thursday appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi and were remanded to October 20 for routine remand.

Their attorney Jeremiah Bamu told the court that his clients were no longer interested in appealing Tuesday’s ruling denying them bail.

“The accused have made a decision not to go further with the appeal of the case from yesterday but will be requesting for the copy of the ruling handed out yesterday and full case document,” he said.

Bamu further indicated that although in terms of the law the State can give the defence papers two days before trial it was a short period to prepare.

He said his clients were anxious to prove their innocence.

Bamu told the court that he hoped the State would give him the papers and the video that is going to be used during the trial.

“We seek that the state makes an undertaking on record when they can give us the copy of the video to be used in trial in view of the right to a fair trial,” he pleaded.

The State has in the past promised to give them the papers but has not done so.

Bamu accused the State of delaying proceedings on the pretext that the video in question was still being analysed.

“The state indicated at the initial stages of the case they had submitted  the video for forensic analysis and has taken them a long time. It is only fair for the accused to receive the video so they can submit it for analysis.”

“Except analysis cannot be done barely two days before trial therefore the accused should be notified before the trial,” he argued.

The State represented by prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti unrepentantly alluded to the fact that they would give the defence papers but should they fail, they were well within their rights.

“State will try to furnish them with the documents and video and if they can not it is still permissible by law,” said Mutsokoti.

The two are being accused of inciting public violence after the death of slain CCC activist Moreblessing Ali.

Mnangagwa “Captures ” Churches

By Fanuel Chinowaita

Emerson Mnangagwa forms Pastors for ED movement and deploys its members to some churches which are at undisignated places.
Hi
According to a reliable source who pressed a red button, there is a woman preacher who visited their church in Mutare and was given platform to preach.

The source added that at first the preacher was apolitical but ended up heaping all the praises on Mnangagwa which did not go well with the congregants.

In addition, the preacher asked to be added on church groups where she is asking for names and I’D numbers, promising to give youths some money for projects.

The woman declined to communicate with me when I asked her and she referred me to her boss called Evangelist
Idirashe Dongo.

Idirashe Dongo reviewed that she belongs to Pastors4ED Movement, which has a mission to mobilize and encourage Christians to participate I activities that support ordained leadership for it to deliver for the benefit of the nation.

Dongo also said that the movement was started by Mnangagwa.

She said, “It was an Inspiration from The President Cde ED Mnangagwa himself as we saw him building up relationship with Churches in the Land that he is Governing, and we said , when a King has called you to come and walk together for National Building & Peace, why not?”

However Evangelist Dongo rejects that their is political violence in Zimbabwe.

She said, “Was there ever an unfree and fair election in Zimbabwe before? The recent Election of 2018, even the Highest Courts of the Land allowed a Process on a disputed election, and a judgement was passed.

“I have never witnessed such ‘political violence’ , have you yourself, where?”

Meanwhile, some church members who raised a red flag have vowed to reject dragged into politics through fake prophets and evangelists who they say are satanists, who are send to destroy the churches of God.

Zambia Rescues Zimbabwe

Neighbouring Zambia has come to the rescue of Zimbabwe with 200 000 tonnes (t) of maize to feed millions currently facing hunger in the country, NewsDay has gathered.

Plans by Zimbabwe to import 200 000 tonnes of maize from Malawi in May did not bear fruit after the deal was contested by the Malawi Parliament in Lilongwe because tender procedures had reportedly been flouted.

Zambia’s Consumer Association confirmed the maize deal to NewsDay.

“According to the information, it’s more like a controlled export because we have some companies which have memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with Congolese and Zimbabwean companies in order to fulfil the MoUs,” the Zambian consumer body said in response to questions from NewsDay.

Insiders close to millers and the Zimbabwean government say there have been hurdles around importation of Malawian and Zambian maize.

“The Malawi delivery is proving to be a problem, but the Zambian one will soon be here because all permits have now been finalised,” a source close to developments told NewsDay.

A high-ranking official at the Grain Marketing Board said: “This maize is being imported by the Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ).”

Contacted for comment, Lands and Agriculture ministry secretary John Basera said: “This maize is certainly not being imported by the government; it has to be private players.”

He said Zimbabwe had enough grain.

“We have 1,5 million tonnes of maize from harvest this year plus 300 000t in small grain, then 500 000t carryover stock from last year that puts us at 2,3 million tonnes of grain versus our demand of 2,2 million tonnes,” Basera said.

He said millers who failed to fund 40% of their local requirements locally were importing grain from neighbouring countries.

Efforts to get an official comment from GMAZ president Tafadzwa Musarara were fruitless.

Despite gobbling billions in various agriculture handouts and subsidy schemes, like the Presidential Inputs Scheme, Pfumvudza and the Command Agriculture Programme, Zimbabwe remains food insecure with 5,4 million (36%) of its citizens facing hunger in the current season, according to the World Food Programme.

Zambian social media influencer and politician with the ruling United Party for National Development Joseph Kalibwe last Monday tweeted: “… tonnes of our Zambian maize will be received by our friends, the Command Agriculture publicity proponents on Thursday. Congratulations to our farmers who keep Zambia fed, exporting the rest to other lands and bringing the export money home for further growth.” —Newsday

Picture: President Chamisa Doing What Emmerson Mnangagwa Cannot Do

He has wronged citizens & is very afraid of them! Dictators are afraid of their own shadows!

Son Forced To Bed Own Mum By Armed Gang

In a strange incident, six robbers who broke into a house in Bulawayo’s Cowdray Park suburb allegedly forced a 22-year-old man to perform sexual acts on his mother after they reportedly stole a plasma TV, cellphones and a solar battery.

The incident was confirmed by Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube and it happened at around 11.30 pm this week on Wednesday at a house owned by the 42-year-old woman who stays with her son in Cowdray Park suburb.

A family member who did not want to be named said the six robbers who were armed with an axe and a kitchen knife swooped on the house while the pair was sleeping.

The source told how the thieves broke into the house and stole cellphones and a TV.

“They smashed a kitchen window before three of them got inside and headed to the owner of the house’s bedroom. They demanded cash and threatened to stab her to death with a kitchen knife,” the source said.

They stuffed a piece of cloth into her mouth while repeatedly demanding money.

“She surrendered three cellphones to them but they demanded more. They force-marched her to her son’s bedroom and woke him before they ordered him to sit on the floor while wearing only underwear,” said the relative to the victims.

After that they sprung a shocker as they reportedly instructed her son to remove his underwear and have sex with his own mother.

“They battered him and he removed his underwear and just lay on top of his mother,” the relative said.

They took his two cellphones and gas cylinder and left in a huff.

The pair reported the matter to the police.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident and appealed for information that may lead to the whereabouts of the six thieves.

He said: “Those with information may contact any nearest police station or call them on 2922 -60358.” —B Metro

Black Stars Keen To Overcome Uruguay

Ghana national team captain Andre Ayew has revealed what his side is planning to do when they play Uruguay in Group H at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The two teams met in the quarterfinals of the 2010 edition when the Black Stars were denied a semifinal berth after Luis Suarez’s handball incident.

The former Liverpool and Barcelona forward prevented a goal-bound header from Dominic Adiyiah in the final minute of extra time.

The West Africans were awarded a penalty, but Asamoah Gyan’s attempt from spot hit the crossbar.

Ghana eventually lost the game through a penalty shootout and bowed out of the tournament.

Speaking in an interview with Al Jazeera, Ayew, who was part of the of the losing side in 2010, said he is not thinking about revenge when they meet the South Americans at the World Cup.

“As team leader, I don’t believe we should view this game as revenge. Instead, we must be smart enough to recognise that it is a match we need points from,” he said.

“We can’t ignore history, but what Luis Suarez [Uruguay footballer] did is something I could have done in the same situation [used his hand to stop a goal-bound shot in 2010]. It hurt us all. But that’s part of football and it happened years ago.

“We just want to win against Uruguay after everything that has been said in the media. As a player, if you go into a game with the intent of retaliation, you can make a lot of mistakes and be hyper. We just need to stay calm, follow the plan and try to win the game, or do whatever we can to advance to the next stage.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Madam Boss Collapses

By- Comedian and socialite Tarisai “Madam Boss” Chikocho, collapsed and wailed during a family meeting to discuss the crisis sparked by her husband’s extramarital affair.

The meeting was held in Chitungwiza on Tuesday.
Madam Boss collapsed as her husband, Ngoni Munetsiwa, begged her to allow his pregnant lover, Evangelista Zhou, to remain at their matrimonial house in Seke, until she finds alternative accommodation.
The meeting followed Evangelista’s decision to apply for a peace order against Madam Boss. Ngoni and his sisters tried to persuade her into giving Evangelista a period of time to vacate their Seke home. In return, Ngoni was to persuade Evangelista to drop her protection order application against Madam Boss.
A confident Ngoni said: “I have talked to my wife about this matter and we agreed on a way forward.
“Leave everything to me so that I make sure Evangelista remains safe since she is expecting,”said Ngoni.
The meeting was held at Madam Boss’ mother-in-law’s house. And, after recovering, Madam Boss even performed some house chores. Evangelista lost her job as a nurse at a private hospital when the initial story was published in March. She even threatened to commit suicide back then. It could not be established whether Evangelista had been persuaded to withdraw her application for a protection order against Madam Boss at Chitungwiza Magistrates’ Court.

Mnangagwa Confirms Vote Buying

By-Zanu PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa has read a riot act to his senior members to cow them ahead of the party’s Central Committee elections this weekend.

Mnangagwa said there is no room for chicanery, name-dropping, violence, or imposition of candidates ahead of these elections.

To fill positions in the Central Committee, which is the highest decision-making body outside Congress, President Mnangagwa said Zanu PF will have to stick to its democratic principles, which entail free expression, identification, and selection by relevant organs of the party.
The President told the 365th Session of the Politburo yesterday that relevant party departments and the National Elections Directorate must see to it that party rules and regulations are adhered to in the Central Committee elections.
“There is no room for chicanery of whatever nature and form. Vote-buying, violence, name dropping and imposition of candidates are not and will never be part of our political organisational DNA.”
To fulfil the party’s indispensable values of democracy that were soldered during the liberation struggle, culminating in the attainment of independence in 1980, President Mnangagwa said the Central Committee elections must be approached “with great diligence and, purpose and spirit of camaraderie”.
“This is more so as the Central Committee is the highest organ of the party in-between congresses. In light of this, every cadre of the party is reminded that there is no room for concessions with regard to matters of party principles, rules and regulations.
“We are a revolutionary party, which fought and delivered democracy and the utility of universal suffrage. At all times, we must practise and defend that democracy.
“As the only party that is representative of the people of this great country, we must continue to observe to the letter the provisions of our party constitution, party ideals and ethos.”
President Mnangagwa said all eligible members of the party had a right to participate in the elections, subject to the rules, regulations and procedures.
“I, therefore, call upon the relevant party departments and National Elections Directorate to ensure that the rules and regulations are well clarified, explained, understood and adhered to.”
The President also rallied Politburo members to remain resolute in providing sound, principled and consistent guidance and leadership as this will ensure the continued growth of the revolutionary party.
“Let us, thus, never shy away from making bold and sometimes uncomfortable decisions for the growth and continuous re-generation of our party. We are the only party with a revolutionary history; a people-centred agenda for the present and a vision for the future. As such, our organisational acumen, fluidity and strategies must reflect accordingly.
“As national leaders, individually and collectively, we must move in one accord. Our unity must never be tampered with. Violent and divisive elements must be denounced, exposed and rejected. We are servants of the party and the people of this great country.
“These are the ideals we set for ourselves from the formative stages of the revolution and our colossal mass party,” President Mnangagwa said.
Amid continued sanctions against Zimbabwe that are designed to dislodge the ruling party from power, the President said youths must be nurtured to remain the vanguard of the party as he commended Zanu PF structures and affiliates for the sterling work in mobilising and recruiting new members towards ensuring 5 million votes in next year’s elections.
“The mobilisation work by all leagues of the party alongside other affiliate organisations is applauded. The increased attendance by the youth at various Government programmes and the overall visibility of our party, through robust efforts of affiliates such as the Young Women for Economic Development; Men BelievED; ZICOSU; Teachers for ED; Councillors for ED and Mahwindi for ED, among others, should continue to be encouraged.
“The youth in particular must be nurtured to remain the vital contingent and vanguard of our party. Their role in the present national development agenda as well as the need for them to defend the rich liberation heritage should continue to be explained to them.
“This is more pertinent as our erstwhile detractors and their proxies continue to seek ways to capture and politically corrupt our young people. Zanu PF will never surrender its responsibility to guide, guard and provide for our young people.
“As we keep our organisational focus on the 2023 Harmonised General Elections, the revolutionary rallying call, ‘muZanu PF iwe neni tine basa,’ must galvanise our grassroots towards exponential growth of the party membership and resultant voters.”
President Mnangagwa said the onus is on every member of Zanu PF to work around the clock and ensure that the party resoundingly wins next year’s elections.
“No one should be allowed to divide our party. We are one, colossal, mass revolutionary party; hence every wing of the party, affiliate organisation and indeed member, is directed to work. Together in unity, from the village, ward, constituency, district and provincial level, we all shoulder the responsibility of ensuring a resounding and thunderous victory for the party in the 2023 Harmonised General Elections”.
A moment of silence was observed in honour of national heroes Brigadier General Charles Kaneta and de Highten Nkomo who passed on recently.

Mnangagwa Promotes Vigilante Groups

President Emmerson Mnangagwa Wednesday hailed the formation of groups, such as  MahwindiforED, in support of his re-election bid.

Mahwindi or touts are notorious for unruly behaviour, including harassing passengers.

His party has endorsed him as its presidential candidate in the 2023 election.

Addressing the Zanu PF politburo at the party headquarters in Harare, Mnangagwa said:

Meanwhile, the mobilisation work of all leagues of the party alongside other affiliate organisations or is applauded. Government programmes and the overall visibility of our party, through the robust efforts of affiliates such as Young Women for Economic Development, MenBelievED, TeachersforED and MahwindiforED, among others should continue to be encouraged,” he said.

He also said Zimbabweans in the diaspora are welcome to join the ruling party assuring them, “that they are welcome home.” He added:

The Zanu PF government will never abandon any of our citizens, no matter where they may live.

In addition, I commend our party structures in the diaspora, particularly in the United States of America and Canada for organising very vibrant meetings for me to address party structures on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

His remarks came amid rising anti-Zimbabwean immigrant sentiments in South Africa. Zimbabweans have been targets of xenophobic attacks in the neighbouring country.

It is estimated that millions of Zimbabweans fled to South Africa, the UK and other countries seeking economic opportunities and a better life away from poverty.

On Tuesday, the government said 900 000 nationals had crossed the borders between 2020 and 2021.

Who Will Win 2022 Soccer Star Of The Year Award?

There are only five games to go before the curtain comes down on what has been a dramatic Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season.

Manica Diamonds started the campaign like a house on fire, but fizzled-out before many could label them as serious title contenders.

From then, it appeared as though it would be a two-horse race between Dynamos and Chicken Inn, who traded blows at the summit of the table before FC Platimum came out of nowhere to dislodge them.

Norman Mapeza’s charges ascended to the top of the table in July, after their 3-0 demolition of Chicken Inn and have been there since.

The Platinum miners’ incredible resurgence might result in a number of their players being on the Soccer Star of the Year calendar.

That being said, there are a number standout performers from other teams, who might even take the big prize home.

Unless the last five games produces other heroes, the Soccer Star of the Year may be named from the list of five below, though naturally, not everyone will agree.

William Manondo (CAPS United)

The former Harare City striker is a strong contender for the Soccer Star of the Year accolade.

He is the league’s top goal scorer, having scored 15 of Makepekepe’s 28 goals in a season those in the green half of the capital would want to quickly forget.

To score 15 goals for a team like CAPS United and how they have fared this season, is remarkable.

Manondo is 5 goals shy of the personal target he set, 20.

Brian Muza (Chicken Inn)

The speedy striker has had a brilliant season for the Joey ‘Mafero’ Antipas-coached side.

He has 11 goals to his name, in a campaign the Gamecocks were hoping to win the title.

The 23-year old former Talen Vision striker added the much needed impetus in the Chicken Inn attack was arguably the missing link in their jigsaw puzzle.

Walter Musona (FC Platinum)

The former Polokwane City striker returned to Zimbabwe when most thought his once promising career was headed towards the end.

He has been brilliant and was one of the key drivers of the Platinum miners’ revival.

The former Young Warriors star has 10 goals for the FC Platinum this season and a couple of assists too under his belt.

His top-drawer free kick in stoppage time against Highlanders at Baboufields last Sunday might have impressed even those rooting for Bosso.

Platinum winning the league, which is now a question of when not a matter of if, may work in Musona’s advantage.

Tymon Mvula (Dynamos)

He has been instrumental in the Harare giants’ quest to end their 7-year wait for the league title.

The former Hwange goalkeeper has kept 16 clean sheets for DeMbare this season.

The only time Mvula has put a glove wrong was when his mistake cost Tonderai Ndiraya’s charges three points against Black Rhinos at Vengere last month.

Mvula’s only problem as far as pushing for the golden glove is concerned, is that he is currently injured, therefore Donovan Bernard and Wallace Malagane, who are on 15 and 13 clean sheets respectively, can eclipse his number in the remaining five games.

Frank Makarati (Dynamos)

One of the most consistent players in the PSL.

Makarati has been one of the standout players for Dynamos this season.

He has been a key in the Dynamos back line, in a campaign which captain Partson Jaure was not that consistent.

Makarati scored very crucial goals in big matches too. He was on target against CAPS United, Chicken Inn in Bulawayo and it was his solitary strike which propelled DeMbare to a 1-0 victory over Manica Diamonds last week.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Facts About World Mental Health Day

Whilst the pandemic has, and continues to, take its toll on our mental health, the ability to reconnect through World Mental Health Day 2022 will provide us with an opportunity to re-kindle our efforts to protect and improve mental health.

Many aspects of mental health have been challenged; and already before the pandemic in 2019 an estimated one in eight people globally were living with a mental disorder. At the same time, the services, skills and funding available for mental health remain in short supply, and fall far below what is needed, especially in low and middle income countries.

The COVID-19 pandemic has created a global crisis for mental health, fueling short- and long-term stresses and undermining the mental health of millions. Estimates put the rise in both anxiety and depressive disorders at more than 25% during the first year of the pandemic. At the same time, mental health services have been severely disrupted and the treatment gap for mental health conditions has widened.

Growing social and economic inequalities, protracted conflicts, violence and public health emergencies affect whole populations, threatening progress towards improved well-being; a staggering 84 million people worldwide were forcibly displaced during 2021. We must deepen the value and commitment we give to mental health as individuals, communities and governments and match that value with more commitment, engagement and investment by all stakeholders, across all sectors. We must strengthen mental health care so that the full spectrum of mental health needs is met through a community-based network of accessible, affordable and quality services and supports.

Stigma and discrimination continue to be a barrier to social inclusion and access to the right care; importantly, we can all play our part in increasing awareness about which preventive mental health interventions work and World Mental Health Day is an opportunity to do that collectively. We envision a world in which mental health is valued, promoted and protected; where everyone has an equal opportunity to enjoy mental health and to exercise their human rights; and where everyone can access the mental health care they need.

WHO will work with partners to launch a campaign around the theme of Making Mental Health & Well-Being for All a Global Priority. This will be an opportunity for people with mental health conditions, advocates, governments, employers, employees and other stakeholders to come together to recognize progress in this field and to be vocal about what we need to do to ensure Mental Health & Well-Being becomes a Global Priority for all.

After Abandoning Marry Chiwenga, Mudiwa Says I’m Ready To Become Another Woman’s Keeper

By Showbiz Reporter | IS THIS NDINYENGEIWO PART 2? – Lorraine Guyo appeared to throw in her charm for artist, Mudiwa Mtandwa after the rapper had announced he is looking for a love mate.

The suggestive chatter started after Mudiwa, who has failed to defend his own ailing cousin, Marry Chiwenga, had said he is looking to become another woman’s keeper.

“I’m now ready to be someone’s husband,” said the sunglassed rapper who also lodges in Marry Chiwenga’s father’s house.

Throughout Marry Chiwenga’s struggles in which her health has deteriorated and her kids taken away for 3 years to date, Mudiwa has not responded to calls for assistance for his cousin who was once the nation’s Second Lady, and used to support him when she wielded power.

To this, Lorraine said, “same thing over here, I am only failing to find the right person for me – Same same kuno ufunge. Munhu ndiye asipo Mudiwa Hood,” added Guyo.

Mudiwa Hood was still to comment following 3 years of follow up calls.

Suspected Zanu PF Hooligans Attack CCC Member In Gutu

Tinashe Sambiri| Suspected Zanu PF hooligans raided CCC Gutu East member Desire Tichazorwa’s house and vandalised a constituency campaign vehicle on Wednesday night.

Tichazorwa is managing projects that have been implemented by businessman and banker Gift Gonese in Gutu East Constituency.

Commenting on the attack, Tichazorwa blamed Zanu PF thugs for attempting to disrupt CCC programmes.

” I heard a loud noise last night and as I tried to collect what was taking place, the intruders smashed windows of our constituency vehicle and deflated its tyres.

Zanu PF is afraid of the impact we are making in Gutu East.

When I shouted at the thugs, they ran away. They had a calculated mission to vandalize the constituency car.

There is no doubt that Zanu PF thugs raided my house. We are proceeding with our projects despite the attack,” said Tichazorwa.

Gonese said the attack would not stop a series of projects he is running in the area.

” While we are not happy with what happened, there is no going back. Our wave of development is unstoppable,” said Gonese.

On the question of the democratic alternative: A short treatise

By Pride Mkono| Politics is a socially constructed process of consuming power for purposes of appropriating scarce resources. It is through politics that complex modern societies are managed to either progress or stagnate even crumble. As a reality, power works though structures such as laws, institutions and relationships between those wielding it and those who must consent to be governed. This process results in the creation of a State and its institutions.

Most modern societies exercise political power through organs of the State popularly known as the three estates. These are the legislature, which makes laws, executive, which implements laws and judiciary, which interprets laws and adjudicates disputes. Democracy is a process to try and have the affairs of the State managed by consent of the majority of the population. This consent is derived through free, fair and credible elections and other checks and balances within the system. In its most advanced form, democracy also guarantees the protection of minorities and the vulnerable through State institutions and policies. It also entails the rule of law and equality of all citizens before the law. I have given these simple working definitions so that we can be on the same page as I present my argument on the case for a democratic alternative below.

Political power in Zimbabwe has been enjoyed by the ruling party, ZANU PF, since independence from white minority rule in 1980. For over four decades ZANU PF has ruled using authoritarian methods as opposed to democratic best practices. The consent of citizens has been obtained through coercion and State institutions have been captured to centralise power in a deep state controlled by a few elites in ZANU PF, state security apparatus, private businesses and international cartels. As an alternative, the opposition has campaigned on the back of establishing a democratic State. The most fierce challenge to ZANU PF’s stranglehold on power came from the MDC and most recently the CCC. Over the years and more importantly recently, questions have been raised on whether the opposition itself will be able to free the State from authoritarian tentacles towards a more democratic dispensation. These questions are not without basis because Zimbabwe has a history changing only faces yet the repressive authoritarian system has stayed intact and even becoming entrenched. ZANU PF fought the liberation struggle from white minority rule vociferously declaring that in a free Zimbabwe democracy shall reign. Its leader, Robert Mugabe, eloquently articulated this vision, yet he ruled for over three decades with an iron fist. The current President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, seized power on the back of a military coup which deposed Mugabe and he too pontificated about returning to democracy but the lived reality is that he has become a brazen autocrat. Therefore questioning if the opposition will govern differently is not a matter of casting aspersions but a genuine and rational exercise. As the adage goes, once between, twice shy. Zimbabweans seeking democratic alternatives must ask this very important question.

In asking this question, I want to look at four aspects which can help illuminate if we are able to sufficiently answer the question of the democratic alternative in Zimbabwe.

Ideological grounding

History teaches us that those fighting for a democratic alternative must ground themselves in a progressive ideology. From the declaration of independence of the United States of America, to the demands of a republican government of the French revolution, to communist war of national emancipation in China, to the fierce fight for freedom from apartheid in South Africa and to our war of national liberation, progressive ideological grounding provided a campus in all those instances. A democratic alternative can not be born out of reactionary and right wing populism. The phenomena of political pentecostalism, where a political movement is guided by fervent appeals to judio-christian values cannot result in a democratic alternative.

Democracy demands tolerance of religious freedoms and therefore a political movement based on the advancement of judio-christian values cannot produce a tolerant State that will respect those of alternative faith or those who interpret the principles differently. European history is awash with religious wars amongst those who professed belief in the same faith but interpreted it differently. Local Christian cults and churches regularly engage in violence over interpretation of the same faith. This is not to say those leading the opposition must not have religious freedom to the contrary, the beliefs must remain private and politics public. Therefore, without a clear progressive ideology shared by the masses it is impossible to attain a democratic alternative.

A vibrant political institution

The State is governed by institutions and organs. Authoritarian regimes undermine and erode the effectiveness of these institutions to provide checks and balances which are important for democracy. A democratic alternative must therefore have a vibrant political institution guided by rules and procedures that promote internal democracy. Put simply, it must have structures where decisions are discussed and reached at, structures to implement decisions, structures to manage membership and get feedback, structures to hold those implementing decisions to account and structures to manage external communication and resources.

A truly democratic alternative cannot function on the basis of arbitrary decisions of its leader or the consensus of a clique surrounding its leader. In fact the leader of a democratic alternative must seek mandate from its structures and membership. One cannot just declare themselves as a leader even if they have formed a political organization, unless the whole thing is like a pentecostal cult.

If a political movement is formed and functions like a pentecostal cult then it cannot lead to democratic outcomes and this is not to say it cannot attain power. In fact the biggest public danger arises when such a political formation takes power as it is bound to subvert institutions of the State so they function like it has been doing while in opposition. A real democratic alternative must exercise the democracy it will exercise when in power, its vibrant institution ought to serve as a training ground for democratic governance.

Must belong to the larger family of democrats

Struggles for democracy involve a wide range of players like civil society, labour, regional and international solidarity networks. A democratic alternative must be part of this large ecosystem of democratic champions. Within such an ecosystem, the democratic commitment of the political organization is put to test by its peers.

A political organization which doesn’t engage or consult others in the broader democratic ecosystem cannot learn to do so when in power. Arbitrary actions and top-down approaches can never be changed when a political organization is at the zenith of State power. Leaders of the democratic alternative need to learn the art of consensus building by engaging before they are in power. Such engagement is more important when developing blueprints and policies that are supposed to be national in nature. Authoritarian regimes abhor consulting citizens because they lack legitimacy so those in the democratic alternative must do the exact opposite.

Offer solidarity

Fighting authoritarian regimes is fraught with risks. Those leading and the most vocal are subjected to overt and covert strategies of coercion. Abduction, enforced disappearances, murder, and unlawful arrests and detention are some of gruesome methods applied to silence dissent. There is very little that individual citizens can do when the might of the State in the hands of a tyrant falls on them. However, it is the duty of the collective democratic ecosystem to organise solidarity responses as the case maybe.

Therefore, a political organization pushing for a democratic alternative must offer solidarity. At all times it ought to identify with the victims of state abuses, it must actively work to amplify the voices of the most downtrodden and poor. Solidarity should not be used as a moment of political posturing but as a deep moment to show collective humanity and people power.

The four aspects I have discussed above are not conclusive, but when applied can illuminate if a political organization in the opposition like CCC can be a democratic alternative. By offering these aspects I am not in any way insinuating that these are the deficits in the mainstream opposition but should they be then it’s an opportunity to correct. Finally, this is part of my contribution to the collective effort of building democracy in Zimbabwe, which is everyone’s responsibility.

Just In – Harare Municipal Police Assault Student

Tanatsiwa Dambuza

By A Correspondent- Harare municipal police this afternoon assaulted a student accusing him of taking pictures of their brutality against vendors.

Tanatsiwa Dambuza was beaten with clenched fists and boots by the municipal police officers and left with a red eye and swollen face.

Tanatsiwa Dambuza

Narrating his ordeal to Zimeye, Dambuza said:

“I was walking near Copacabana market when I witnessed the municipal police officers in uniform harassing a deaf and dumb woman after they had confiscated her wares.

One of the officers accused me of taking a picture of them pushing and shoving the vendor who was visibly at pains to communicate with them.

One of the officers then waylaid me and held me by the belt and trippled me. When I fell, they pulled me into their truck.

They ganged up on me and started accusing me of being a public nuisance.

They moved with me inside their truck while doing the rounds in Harare CBD and they were beating me up. They took my phone and deleted all pictures in my gallery.

They poured water on me and poured cool drink on my body. They also splashed me with strawberries that they had confiscated.

I sustained a swollen eye and face from the ordeal before they dumped me at Harare Central police station and told me to go.”

He is yet to make a police report.

Efforts to get a comment from Mayor Mafume was work in progress by the time of writing.

Fraud Suspect Given Greenlight To Contest Zanu PF Central Committee Elections

Zanu-PF has given the nod to socialite Mike Chimombe’s candidature to stand in the weekend elections for the ruling party’s Central Committee (CC).

The polls are being fiercely contested amid allegations of vote buying, rigging and intimidation.

Chimombe, popularly known as Boss Mike, was recently arrested for allegedly defrauding a Harare man of US$16,500 in a botched residential stand deal. He is out of custody on bail.

According to a leaked Zanu-PF Mashonaland West list submitted and endorsed by the party’s Politburo at its Wednesday meeting held in Harare, Chimombe will fight it out for one of the four Makonde district slots alongside equally wealthy businessmen and former councillors, Charles Mutisi and Simba Kanzou.

Information Deputy Minister, Kindness Paradza also made it onto the list of successful candidates to challenge incumbent Makonde CC member, Phineas Makumbe in one of the impending plebiscites.

According to sources, Paradza and Local Government Deputy Minister, Marian Chombo of Zvimba North, both have President Emmerson Mnangagwa to thank after he reportedly intervened to save them from being labelled “rebels” and removal from the contestants’ list for their previous flirtations with opposition parties.

Paradza once joined yester-year finance minister Simba Makoni’s Mavambo/Kusile/ Dawn party, while Chombo was a top-ranking official in the National Patriotic Front (NPF) led by embittered former vice president, Joice Mujuru.

Another top Zanu-PF official and former Cabinet minister, Prisca Mupfumira accused of grand corruption involving over US$90million at the National Social Security Authority (NSSA), will contest the Makonde women’s quota slot against Martha Tafirenyika, who according to sources initially had her curriculum vitae (CV) suspiciously going missing.

In an interesting turn of events, some key Zanu-PF members, including outspoken Chegutu West lawmaker Dexter Nduna, former information deputy minister Bright Matonga and ex-finance deputy minister Terrence Mukupe had their candidatures disapproved for various reasons.

“Nduna was disqualified for pending disciplinary matters and the vetting panel recommended him to be enrolled at the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology in order to whip the rebellious MP into line,” a Zanu-PF insider told NewZimbabwe.com Wednesday.

“Matonga wanted to contest for the Mhondoro-Ngezi slot but had his CV thrown out for being a security threat while Mukupe was not cleared because he didn’t have a transfer letter from his former Harare province.”

Former Hurungwe legislator, Franco Ndambakuwa was reportedly disqualified due to a rape conviction.

Other unsuccessful candidates were Clever Kunonga of Chegutu West, who was struck off the list for his history in the opposition NPF, while Tsikayi Sungano, who wanted to contest against former health minister, Douglas Mombeshora in the Mhangura polls, was barred for failing to meet the minimum five years threshold at senior party level.

Town Clerk Frogmarched Out Of Office

By A Correspondent- Residents Association of Victoria Falls on Tuesday frogmarched Town Clerk, Ronnie Dube, out of his office after he was suspended for alleged abuse of office.

The association mobilised residents to physically remove Dube from his Council office following his suspension by the Mayor.

“Today, we stormed Council premises and locked Ronnie Dube’s office and put a key blocker.

“Dube is under investigation by ZACC for corruption and illegal Council deals.

“After we left, some Council security personnel tried to remove the key blocker, but failed.

“It seems Ronnie wants to hide all evidence, but the police have warned that any security guard who removes the key blocker will be arrested,” said a source.

In the suspension letter, Dube is accused of five counts of alleged incompetence.

“On May 26, you wrote a letter to Jackberry Investment instructing them to make a payment towards one-month rentals into City Council Account number 4572-033912-202 held at ZB Bank to the tune of ZW$8 251 522.65.

“There is no Council resolution to allocate the brewery to the said investor.

“The purported lease being drawn in the same letter is illegal. You acted ultra vires your express and/or implied terms and conditions of service.

On February 25, you unilaterally allocated the Council dumpsite to Greenline Africa, in partnership with Mosi oa Tunya Waste and Landfill (Pvt) Ltd without a Council resolution.

“In your letter dated February 25, you stated that management had no authority to lease out the said dumpsite/landfill site or sewerage pond area.

“You acted outside the scope of your mandate and powers by usurping Council powers.”

Added the letter:

On August 4, as the Town Clerk of the City of Victoria Falls, you caused the transfer of                           US$84 000 from a Council account.

“There was no cause for this transfer.

“Council neither authorised such nor does it have an agreement with you authorising the transfer of the said money.

“This is theft of trust property.

“In June, 2022, you misrepresented to Council a proposal arising from the tender to sell stand number 8300.  The purpose of selling land, through the tender system is to get the competitive maximum value available on the open market.

You misled Council to award the tender to Zambezi Properties, whose bid of US$4.2 million was lower than the highest bid of US$5.7 million.

“You failed to discharge your duties diligently and effectively in line with the express or implied conditions of your contract of employment.

“In your capacity as Town Clerk, you have failed to solve perennial service delivery challenges, namely water shortages.”

Angry Mourners Bash Mom Of Minor Who Died While Giving Birth

By A Correspondent- Angry mourners yesterday bashed the mother of a Grade 7 pupil who died while giving birth at an apostolic church shrine in Bikita.

Muparadziwo was assaulted by some mourners, who demanded to know why she didn’t accompany her pregnant daughter, Nokutenda Hwaramba, 15, to Bikita, where she died in labour.

Nokutenda was taken to Bikita by her father, Bernard Hwaramba, to his church’s shrine for prayers, when she complained of being unwell.

One mourner told H-Metro that the family was heartless, especially the mother.

“We are mothers who know how painful it is from pregnancy to delivery,” she said.

Nokutenda was a young girl and her condition was described as demonic by church members.

“Instead of taking Nokutenda to the clinic to save her life, they decided to follow their church doctrine.

“Furthermore, Loice did not bother to accompany Nokutenda to Bikita even though she was also pregnant.

We are waiting for a better explanation from Bernard and we do not want to see their church members here.

“They caused Nokutenda’s death by not taking her for medical assistance, describing her condition as evil spirits.

“Mai ava tanga tichida kuvarovera nyaya yekudzivirira murume wavo.

“Bernard has been abusing Nokutenda and we are aware of that.

“He blocked Nokutenda from being taken to her lover after neighbours discovered that she was pregnant

Hwaramba had been staying with Nokutenda, and two other children, following his separation from her mother Muparadziwo.

Muparadziwo has since remarried.

Hwaramba is expected to accompany his daughter’s body from Bikita.

Meet Victoria Falls Safari Spa Manager Avalon van Leent

Victoria Falls Safari Spa manager Avalon van Leent is excited to be bringing a new standard to spas in Victoria Falls and putting Zimbabwe’s leading tourist attraction on the map as a wellness destination.

“It’s exciting because it’s the first purpose-built spa in Victoria Falls and marks a new milestone in the wellness industry in Zimbabwe, with Victoria Falls now catching up with the rest of the world,” Avalon said.

Victoria Falls Safari Spa, nestled in peaceful indigenous woodland, rich in birdlife, with the occasional bushbuck or warthog passing by, will feature three stand-alone treatment rooms, and a main area with a hair and make-up studio, a polish bar, a splash pool and café.

The African tented safari camp style spa will offer massages, facials, manicure and pedicures, as well as many other treatments, with mini options available for children. Its offerings will include half day and full day packages and wellness weekends.

“People are very much about creating memories when they travel, so spa treatments, which can be enjoyed with friends or your partner, will be a wonderful way to do this,” Avalon, 36, said.

She believes Victoria Falls Safari Spa could potentially extend stays in Victoria Falls, as it adds another element to the destination, and while men may choose to play golf or go fishing, women may opt for a spa treatment.

Born in Masvingo, Avalon studied Holistic and Spa Therapies with Camelot International in Johannesburg, where she gained a CIDESCO qualification, the world’s most prestigious qualification for Aesthetics and Beauty Therapy.

After her studies, Avalon joined a 5-star cruise ship called The Quest, part of the Yachts of Seabourn, to gain international experience and travel the world as a spa therapist, before moving to Australia and gaining further experience in the wellness industry.

But it was always her dream to return home, bringing her knowledge and experience to Zimbabwe, and after she and her husband Martijn’s travel plans were disrupted during the Covid-19 pandemic they moved to Victoria Falls.

Avalon will head up a team of four therapists when Victoria Falls Safari Spa, which will use all natural, plant-based Africology and Cashmere & Co. products, opens on November 1.

Madam Boss Collapses Over Hubby’s Pregnant Lover

By A Correspondent – Madam Boss collapsed as her husband, Ngoni Munetsiwa, begged her to allow his pregnant lover, Evangelista Zhou, to remain at their matrimonial house in Seke, until she finds alternative accommodation.

The meeting followed Evangelista’s decision to apply for a peace order against Madam Boss. Ngoni and his sisters tried to persuade her into giving Evangelista a period of time to vacate their Seke home.

In return, Ngoni was to persuade Evangelista to drop her protection order application against Madam Boss

A confident Ngoni said:

“I have talked to my wife about this matter and we agreed on a way forward.

Political Analysts Speak On Sikhala Detention

Political analyst and academic, Alexander Rusero, says the continued incarceration of firebrand Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislator, Job Sikhala is a ploy by Zanu-PF to instil fear on dissent ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections.

Rusero was speaking during a press briefing on organised violence and torture convened by the Research and Advocacy Unity (RAU) in Mutare on Tuesday.

His remarks come at a time legislators Sikhala, Godfrey Sithole and other CCC activists have locked up four months in pre-trial detention.

Rusero said this was unimaginable, blaming the ruling party for lacking democracy.

“In some way Job’s spirit is being broken. That is violence; imagine being separated from your family for more than 90 days without being tried,” Rusero said.

He said the message being communicated is that, in politics, one cannot survive without any backup.

“Zanu-PF is a competitive authoritarian regime which strikes a balance between certain things that are very progressive. There are certain progressive things that Zanu-PF does that one can envy but you cannot take the bush out of them,” he said.

“The bush will always be in them, hence they are striking fear. Competitive authoritarian regimes strike a balance between what is acceptable and what is not; hence that balance retains some minimum degree of legitimacy that they want.

“You can not separate Zanu-PF from organised violence and torture because that was the modus operandi of liberation movement connotations which viewed people in binary characteristics, you either with us and you are Patriot or against us and you are an enemy.

Rusero said the “problematic aspect” of treating citizens as enemies and others as patriots has resulted in organised violence and torture.

“When you hear Zanu-PF saying asingazive ngaadzidziswe (those who don’t know must be educated), what is it they want to teach you and what is the methodology of such a teaching.

“It is not like they will take you to the classroom, the approach is actually organised violence and torture. Looking at organised violence and torture in Zimbabwe precisely with regards to elections, Zanu-PF has been to a larger extent very complicity in being the culprit.”

The Nyatsime16 were arrested four months ago for allegedly inciting the violence which erupted during a memorial service for slain CCC activist, Moreblessing Ali.

Sikhala was representing Ali’s family following her gruesome murder and was on the forefront demanding justice.

Ali’s family vowed not to bury her decapitated body until Sikhala is freed.

Minor Dies While Giving Birth At Shrine

By A Correspondent- There is shock and outrage in Norton after a Grade 7 pupil died on Tuesday while giving birth at a shrine in Bikita, Masvingo.

Nokutenda Hwaramba died together with her baby, at a shrine, where she was being cared for by unidentified prophets.

She was 15.

Her parents, Bernard Hwaramba, 41, and Loice Muparadziwo were not with Nokutenda at the shrine where they dumped her for prayers.

Nokutenda’s mother, Loice, told H-Metro that she also had a miscarriage on the day her daughter died, while in labour.

Nokutenda was said to have been impregnated by one Aaron from our neighbourhood.

“She got sick and would just fall as if possessed by evil spirits.

“Her father consulted prophets from his congregation and later took her to Bikita for more prayers.

“He left Nokutenda in the hands of the intercessors and she died while giving birth at the shrine.

“The church doctrine did not allow us to take Nokutenda to a clinic, or hospital, to give birth or for any medical treatment.

I failed to accompany them to Bikita because I  had a miscarriage and was at Norton General Hospital on the day Nokutenda passed away,” said Loice.

Aaron was reported to have vanished from Norton after Hwaramba learnt that he was responsible for his daughter’s pregnancy.

He said the family intends to collect Nokutenda’s body from Bikita and take it to Mt Darwin for burial.

Mourners are gathered at Hwaramba’s homestead in Katanga, Norton.

The tragedy has left the town of Norton in shock and anger.

In January this year, a pregnant 15-year-old Marange girl died after bleeding excessively, under the watch of a faith healer.

Ferby Munyafi of Chiadzwa Village in Chief Marange’s area, was married to 29-year-old Arthur Chitombo, of the same village.

Chitombo was arrested and charged with having sexual relations with a minor.

The two got married in April last year and, when the teenager got pregnant, she did not register her pregnancy at the clinic.

On January 9, she started experiencing labour pains and was rushed to a faith healer in Mafararikwa Village.

The police report indicated that on January 12, Ferby bled profusely as she was in labour and died before she could give birth.

Toddler Drowns In Rusape

TWO people, including a toddler, drowned in two separate incidents that happened last weekend in Nyanga and Rusape respectively.

In the first incident that happened in Rusape, a toddler (2) died after she crawled away from her father who had fallen asleep and fell into a well.

The toddler’s mother, Aquiline Samu, had left the deceased in the company of her husband who fell asleep and left her unattended.

ED Denounces Violence

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has denounced violence and vote buying as his ruling Zanu-PF party gears up for its central committee elections this weekend.

Central Committee elections are a precursor to the Zanu-PF’s congress which will be held later this month.

The build-up to the central committee elections has been marred by reports of party bigwigs looking to secure posts in the most powerful arm of the ruling party without being contested.

In his opening remarks at Wednesday’s Zanu-PF politburo meeting President Mnangagwa warned against underhanded actions in this weekend elections.

“The Central Committee election process must be approached with great diligence and purpose and spirit of Camaraderie,” he said.

“The Central Committee is the highest organ of the Party in between congresses. In light of this, every cadre of the Party is reminded that there is no room for concession regarding party principles, rules and regulations.”

He added;

“We must observe the provisions of the party constitution. All eligible members of the Party have the right to participate in the central committee elections.”

Party members have been jostling for positions in the central committee with indications top leaders were targeting certain positions to be reserved for them.

The ruling party is organising itself as it looks to maintain its stranglehold on power being winning general elections scheduled for next year.

President Mnangagwa said party procedures and regulations must be followed during the weekend elections.

“In light of the beckoning Central Committee Elections, all eligible members of the Party have the right to participate in the elections, subject to the rules.

“Candidates must be identified and selected by the appropriate organs of the Party. There is no room for chicanery of whatever nature and form.

“Vote buying, violence, name dropping and imposition of candidates are not and will never be part of our political and organisational DNA.”

Mnangagwa demanded unity and challenged the party to ensure “resounding” victory in next year’s general elections.

“No one should be allowed to divide our party,” he said.

“We are one, colossal, mass revolutionary party; hence every wing of the party, affiliate organisation and indeed member, is directed to work.

“Together in unity, from the village, ward, constituency, district and provincial level, we all shoulder the responsibility of ensuring a resounding and thunderous victory for the party in the 2023 Harmonised General Elections”.

He added; “We are the only party with a revolutionary history; a people-centred agenda for the present and a vision for the future.

Mliswa Says Mapfumo Is Right To Fear Coming To Zim

By Jane Mlambo| Controversial Norton legislator Temba Mliswa has backed Chimurenga music icon Thomas Mapfumo who last week said he was not able to come to Zimbabwe to bury his brother and former band member Lancelot Mapfumo due to fear of arrest.

Mliswa said with the way the Zimbabwe government is using state institutions to victimize its opponents including Zengeza West legislator Job Sikhala and St Marys parliamentarian Godfrey Sithole as well as renowned author Tsitsi Dangarembga, Mapfumo is justified to be avoid visiting the country.

“Thomas Mapfumo’s fear to return to Zimbabwe, even for his brother’s funeral is very valid and he is well within his right to do so. For some of us who have experienced what its like to be victimised using state apparatus we can understand him. It’s better to be safe.

“We endured the pain of victimisation because we were younger, he can’t survive it at his age. Look at @JobSikhala1, Dangarembga, etc the system has been pursuing them& using state institutions to victimise them. He must avoid that. Once orders are given from above it’s bad for,” said Mliswa while posting on Twitter.

Fraud Accused Chimombe Given The Nod To Contest Zanu Pf Elections

By A Correspondent- Zanu-PF has given the nod to socialite Mike Chimombe’s candidature to stand in the weekend elections for the ruling party’s Central Committee (CC).

Killer Zivhu Rips Into Makandiwa

Controversial politician and former Chivi South legislator Killer Zivhu has accused popular prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa of paying a blind eye to the suffering his members are going through while endorsing supporting corruption by the elites.

Speaking during a church address, Makandiwa said, ‘corruption is corruption, but the one of chopping down half of the amount, USD5billion, is not at all corruption if the roads are constructed.’

Zivhu hit back saying Makandiwa’s life was going on well yet thousands of his church members had retreated to rural areas after going broke while seeding to him.

“Makandiwa their Prophet deleted my comment yesterday, but let me say it again, Mufundisi zvenyu zviri kufamba chose, from Chitungwiza to madheudheu, but do know kuti thousands of your church members are now moving kuinda kumusha, mari dzakapera vachiita seeding ku church,” said Zivhu.

Meanwhile, self exiled former Zanu PF cabinet member Professor Jonathan Moyo has also accused Makandiwa of being a rolling stone.

Tagwirei Wants To Buy Rufaro Stadium

By A Correspondent | Businessman Kuda Tagwirei wants to purchase the country’s first-residents-money built-giant-stadium, Rufaro, ZimEye has learnt.

This comes at a time when it also emerged that the former Douglas Mwonzora led Harare City Council had by last year leased out Rufaro to Tagwirei’s Sakunda company.

In the latest development, Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume, who has battled out the takeover of the Pomona Dumpsite by the alleged “Mabelreign-armed robber” Delish Nguwaya’s Geogenix BV company, has put his foot down saying he will not sign off any council properties during his term.

Sources told ZimEye, Tagwirei has been secretly bidding for the city’s 2nd stadium which was built by Harare residents in 1972 and commissioned by a junior Councillor (picture). Properties built with residents’ money cannot be sold off to businesspeople who became billionaires in the same city that made them prosper, says Mayor Mafume.

Rufaro Stadium, built by Harare residents in 1972 and commissioned by a junior Councillor

Said Mayor Mafume:

“I am tired of phonecalls, I am tired of candestine meetings…

https://youtu.be/QReccPtACTU
Harare Mayor speaking to residents yesterday

“We are not going to surrender council property to people who have made money in Harare, and they want to take the inheritance of all the residents and give it to their children and they say we were cleverer than other residents, so that your children inherit properties that belong to the city.

“What kind of businesspeople are they? We don’t need them. What we should be doing is properly charging then rates and taxes, so that they understand that it is not their money.

“How do you take things that have been inherited by residents from the 1970s and we want to give to an individual company?

“So let’s stop promising people properties that belong to the city…

“So tell them, many of them to stop coming to my office, to the councillors trying to persuade them…even you, avoid promising people properties that belong to the city.

“And those business people, we have made you rich as a city, we have made you billionaires not only in Zim, but across Africa and the world, if you want to give back, give back properly…”

The most popular sports in Africa apart from Football

https://unsplash.com/photos/B85A8-GHjoI

Football is the world’s game and nowhere is this more apparent than on the entire African continent. People from all over Africa have a deep and historical love for the beautiful game and it will most likely stay that way for a very long time into the future.

But at the same time, interest in other sports across the continent is growing. Part of this is because of internet streaming that makes it possible to watch international sports in different ways than before. Today a person in Zimbabwe or South Africa can take part in the March Madness picks on the same level as someone in America.

In this text we’re going to share some of the most popular sports across Africa as a whole, apart from football. Maybe you will find something interesting to watch after the world cup is over.

Rugby

Rugby is a great sport enjoyed by many in Africa, and just in South Africa alone there are 600 000 registered players with the national federation. South Africa is without a doubt the powerhouse of African rugby as a whole, even though Kenya has started to produce some very impressive players and results in recent years. Rugby is just like football, a very accessible sport to pick up and play, and one can expect to see more and more quality players coming from more countries in the coming years.

Athletics

Ever since the first ever African gold in the olympics in 1908, Africa has been one of the strongest contenders in the world when it comes to athletics. Even though athletics as a whole is very popular, the biggest impact on the international stage has been in the field of running, where countries like Kenya has time and time again proven to be the best in the world.

Basketball

Basketball was first played on the African continent in the middle of the 1960’s, and today it’s a popular sport among young people across many countries. According to the international power rankings Nigeria is by far the best country with Tunisia in second place. Africa has had a couple of players make it all the way to the NBA, something that without a doubt has led to many young boys and girls dreaming of playing in the NBA one day. Today it’s not uncommon to see youngsters wearing sweatshirts and jerseys to support their favorite team or players, even though those players live halfway across the world.

Chaos In Zanu PF Ahead Of Weekend Elective Meeting

Khama Billiat has been named in the Confederation of African Football Champions League Team of the Decade.

Billiat made the team following his performance during the 2015/16 season when he was still with Mamelodi Sundowns.

He won the Champions League trophy in that campaign and CAF named him the second best Africa-based player of the year behind the then Sundowns teammate Denis Onyango.

Billiat also played in another Champions League final in 2021, with Kaizer Chiefs, but lost to Al Ahly.

Katsande Defends Billiat

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande has backed his former teammate and fellow countryman Khama Billiat, who is struggling to reach top form.

Billiat is enduring his worst run in the South African top-flight after managing just one goal and two assists in 17 league appearances, stretching back to the previous campaign.

The slump in form has attracted criticism from all corners, with the club’s supporters and former players expressing their discontent with the Zimbabwean forward’s contribution.

But Katsande feels that Billiat brings value to the team beyond goals and assists.

“I know Khama is a big boy, he’s my little brother and I always spend time with him, always telling him how important he is to the club and the setup,” Katsande said, according to KickOff.com.

“I always tell him, ‘You are our spearhead, you are our best player, so you need to know that you are the best. We are coming from five months without playing football, so obviously there’s a little bit of rust, but what you can do is contribute towards the team.’

“So, at the moment, yes, he’s not getting there where we know him, but look at his contribution to the club and the team, he’s very, very useful and that’s why he’s always selected to play.

“Goals will come, we just need to be patient with him and give him confidence, which is what he needs at the moment, and we will try to put him in a comfortable position whereby all he thinks about is just playing well and helping the team.

“The most important thing, as much as you are a good player, you need to be a team player. So, basically, this guy is a big player but he’s a team player.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

ZRP Cop Trapped Inside Married Woman’s House

CHIPINGE – A cheeky Police officer is bundled at the house of a Chipinge woman he arrested and detained for hours on September 18, 2022 but then started sending love and steamy messages immediately after her release.

Chipinge Times is reliably informed that Julius Mucheri was trapped at the Kositina homestead in Mugiyo Village in Ward 8 Chipinge last night. His captors tied his hands and legs together after they overpowered him and Police had not yet collected their colleague since yesterday.

The Officer Commanding Chipinge/Chimanimani, chief Superintendent Godfrey Chinyanganya professed ignorance over the incident.

“I am not aware of the incident. We will investigate that,” he said.

However, Memory Mandaa the woman the cop proposed love to confirmed the incident to Chipinge Times.

She said that Mucheri is stationed at Mabheka Police Base and he was handling a land dispute case between the Madoza and Kositina family when he started proposing love to Mandaa who is married to one of the Kositina sons who works in South Africa.

On September 18, 2022 Mucheri allegedly arrested Mandaa and her mother-in-law for breaching a peace order between the warring families. The two allegedly spent the whole day detained at Junction Gate Police Base.

“I was shocked when Mucheri started calling me after our release. He called me and asked if we had travelled well and then immediately afterwards started proposing love to me. I explained my marital status to him but he would not stop.

“I called my husband in SA and he advised me to trap him. I then agreed to Mucheri’s advances and allowed him to come home for quality time,” said Mandaa.

Some of the messages read;

Last night Mucheri then came and entered Mandaa’s bedroom but all hell broke loose before he had even warmed up to sex.

“I secretly beeped my in-laws who were hiding outside and they rushed in and found Mucheri in the room. He tried fighting them as he wanted to run away but he was overpowered and his legs and hands tied. We called the Officer in Charge Chipinge and told him the story. Police still hasn’t arrived to pick him up since last evening,” she said. – Masvingo Mirror

Mendy Bounces Back

Edouard Mendy is back in the Chelsea but coach Graham Potter has refused to guarantee him a regular first XI berth in the coming weeks.

Mendy missed the Blues’ last two matches with a knee injury.

The goalkeeper has recovered from the setback and will be available for selection in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash at home to AC Milan.

But due to a heavy fixture that will follow, Potter is hoping to rotate his players, with Kepa Arrizabalaga set to start in goals in some games.

“I think if you look at what we’ve got over the next six weeks, it’s an incredible schedule,” Potter told the media on Monday ahead of the AC Milan encounter.

“So I’m in no rush to label anyone one or two or anything like that. I want to help Edou get fit and ready to play, which he’s done really well so far.

“Then we’ve got two goalkeepers, and in an ideal world you want football to decide. We’ve got two we really believe in and that’s a really good situation for us.”

Potter also revealed that N’Golo Kante is making progress on a hamstring injury that’s kept him out since August.

“My focus at the moment is to help rehabilitate N’Golo in a good way so he’s available for us, because when he’s on the pitch he’s a huge asset for us,” said the gaffer.

“The other stuff is between the club and him. My focus is to help him get fit, get him enjoying his football, because there’s not many players in world football like NG.

“So the quicker he’s back for us the better. So that’s where I’ll leave my focus.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Maswanhise has now scored in both appearances in the competition, while also boasting of a five-goal tally in the Premier League 2 campaign.

In the China Super League, Nyasha Mushekwi took his season total to eight goals after helping his Zhejiang Greentown side to a 2-1 victory over WH Three Towns.

Mushekwi also extended his record as the club’s all-time top scorer to forty-four goals.

The left-back, who’s on a season-long loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, has started in all the last seven games for Arrows.

THE KEEP WALKING:

AFRICA TOP 30 LIST
Celebrates African creatives who are boldy pushing culture forward across the continent and abroad.

Johannesburg, October 5th, 2022 – Johnnie Walker and Trace have partnered in an innovative new initiative, KEEP WALKING: AFRICA TOP 30, a definitive list recognising next generation cultural shapeshifters from across the African continent.

The List will identify and celebrate 30 next gen African cultural pioneers and visionaries who are not always recognised for it but are boldly pushing culture forward and making impact on the continent’s creative economy across music, film, media, fashion, and art.

The list of nominees will be revealed in October while members of the public are also encouraged to vote for cultural shapeshifters who they believe have given impetus to and moved culture forward, both across Africa and abroad.

“The culture is shifting across Africa in the most amazing ways, and we want this list to be a true reflection of the best next generation of cultural innovators from across the continent. We want creators to know that we see them, we hear them, and we celebrate them for their excellence. Trace is delighted to be partnering with Johnnie Walker™ in bringing this new awards platform to life,” says Valentine Gaudin-Muteba, Trace Managing Director, Southern Africa.

Committed to a spirit of progress and moving forward for over 200 years – and today working with some of the world’s top artists – Johnnie Walker™ celebrates stories of creative energy, determination and pushing boundaries. This legacy continues with the KEEP WALKING: AFRICA TOP 30 platform in which Johnnie Walker™ and Trace have worked with top talent managers and industry leaders across the continent to identify a definitive list of pan-African cultural shape shifters.

KEEP WALKING: AFRICA TOP 30 comes at a time when trends for Africa’s creative economy are overwhelmingly positive. “These figures all indicate that now is the moment for African creatives to showcase their talents and be acknowledged both on the continent and globally. Our intention for the KEEP WALKING: AFRICA TOP 30 list is to not only recognize them but to be an inspiration to all African creators to take bold steps in shifting the continent’s culture, especially as the world re-opens after lockdown,” says Adrian De Wet, Category Brand Manager, Beer and Reserve – Partner and Emerging Markets.

“In the spirit of our founder, John Walker, who had to innovate the status quo of how Whisky was blended, packaged and delivered to the world and which revolutionized the Whisky world forever, we applaud and celebrate those who tread their own paths and leave big steps in their wake.”

Mental Health A Global Priority

“Ballot Is Stronger Than Bullet”

Tinashe Sambiri| The Citizens Coalition for Change( CCC) believes the ballot is stronger than the bullet.

The vibrant party has dismissed Zanu PF’s notion that elections will not change anything in the country.

Zanu PF is accused of attempting to rig polls by discouraging young people from voting.

CCC’s Last Maengahama on Tuesday said:
“Your Vote is your Voice…”

Stephen Sarkozy Chuma a CCC youth leader last week declared:
“Your vote is your power, never surrender your future into the hands of the few.

Young must take part and take charge.

Never be apologetic!

Our struggle is about a generation whose mission and objective is to change the concrete lives of the suffering masses of Zimbabwe.”

Croco Motors Case Wrongful Arrest | FULL TEXT

The Commissioner – General
Zimbabwe Republic Police
Police General Headquarters Harare.

19 September 2022
Hon. Commissioner sir ,
Re: ANONYMOUS REPORT AGAINST ABUSE OF POLICE FORCE AND STATE
MACHINERY.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has been dragged and used to victimize a Zimbabwean woman who is embroiled in a legal battle with Croco Motors. We have observed that there was :
1. Wrong arrest and detention with the intention of intimidating her out of a court case
2. Docket was not properly compiled
3. The accused person was not notified of her charges, she was denied CRB number and also denied a chance to see the docket or what she was being accused of
4. There was over reach , abuse of state resources and heavy handed apartheid policing tactics where employed in a bid to intimidate and cause emotional damage to the accused person
5. The police harassed accused person and her lawyer , the accused person was later released after spending a night in the cells at Marlborough police station. , they were given a copy of a ZRP form 390whose serial number is 0019841CID ref 90/03/22but did not have a CRB number
It is our strong conviction that someone at CROCO MOTORS abused their personal relationship with a member of the police force or bribed a member of the police force to institute the aforementioned allegations on a woman who is embroiled in a legal fight with CROCO motors.
The ordeal was disturbing and tainted the reputation and image of the Zimbabwe Republic Police. This appalling behavior has prompted that we raise this issue with you as an anonymous complaint as we are members of the police force who witnessed this from a distance and felt a need to fight for the victimized woman.
We do hope that your office will look into the matter accordingly
Kind regards

Controversial Shadaya Wins New Fan Across Zambezi

By A Correspondent| Controversial social media personality Shadaya Knight has won a new fan in Zambia’s motormouth politician Joseph Kalimbwe who said he was charmed by his views about men and women.

Posting on Twitter, Kalimbwe said Shadaya had a sober mind urging other young people to tap into his wisdom.

In Zimbabwe, Shadaya always divides opinion with some agreeing that his views are what most men believe though they may not have the guts to say it while some feel he is just an anti-women activist who is bitter over some unrevealed issues.

Coming To Zim Not Safe At All – Mukanya

By A Correspondent

Chimurenga music guru Thomas Mukanya Mapfumo will miss the burial of his brother Lancelot as he fears for his life.

Lancelot is one of the founding members of the Blacks Unlimited and a brother to Mukanya, who died last month in the US.

In an exclusive interview with the Standard from his United States base on Friday, Mapfumo said he will not make the trip to Zimbabwe for the burial of Lancelot. He said:

Lancelot was my brother, workmate and friend. I and the band have lost someone we worked with throughout our lives. It won’t be possible to fill his gap.

Lancelot will be buried in Zimbabwe, his homeland. We are making arrangements to bring his body from here.

Unfortunately, I won’t make the trip to Zimbabwe because of political reasons, as you know I am not a favourite of the government.

I fear for my life and safety if I come to Zimbabwe.

Mukanya has been living in the United States for many years after fleeing persecution during the Robert Mugabe era. He was a critic of the regime.

Mapfumo is also critical of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s regime.

He says Zimbabwe is not moving forward adding that the current government has failed the people and the gains of liberation have been wiped off. He added:

I am totally against the Mnangagwa regime. People, the young people should take into the streets and remove Mnangagwa.

I hate an oppressor, that’s why I am in exile. If it was to me I would be living large in Zimbabwe with farms and stealing money like they do, but I decided to stand with the people.

He said he stands with the oppressed, a message inherent in his music.

Mapfumo was imprisoned during the Smith regime and after independence criticised the new black government led by Robert Mugabe for corruption.

He was targeted and harassed prompting him to move to the United States in the late 1990s.

After Mugabe’s overthrow in 2017, Mapfumo returned to Zimbabwe in 2018, to a massive show named ‘Homecoming Bira’ in the capital.

He returned to his base after a four-month-long visit, but Mapfumo now claims that he is not safe from political danger.

Retracing President Chamisa’s Struggle Against Zanu PF

Decades of naked contact with repression.

By Gift Ostallos Siziba

Came across this interesting yet so revealing piece of history of our Change Champion in Chief, Advocate Nelson Chamisa , frontline fighters and anti regime crusaders.

In September 1999, Advocate Chamisa and a team of pro democracy students confronted the regime and its masquerades at a local tertiary institution.

“You’re implants of Zanupf who are masquerading as genuine, nonpartisan commissioners” Chamisa said.

Being in the frontline of a struggle without dithering or falling for the trappings and trinkets of the regime is a very important virtue of leadership.

It is never an easy road but we must focus on the goal and central objective- that is to bring genuine Change to the citizens of Zimbabwe.

We keep the focus knowing pretty well that we shall finish what we started.

A man has appeared in court before Chitungwiza magistrate Ms Tendai Mutamba for allegedly beating up his two children using an electric cable as a form of discipline as the two were fighting over food that had been served.

Claudius Zuva (30) is being charged with two counts of ill treatment of children.

He was granted $10 000 bail and was instructed not to interfere with witnesses.

The trial is expected to start tomorrow.

Prosecuting, Mr Malvern Mwendera told the court that on September 27, the complainant Alvin Kamwanza aged eight was sharing food with his younger brother Adrian Zuva at around 6pm and had a quarrel over the quantity of food.

The younger brother felt he had been given a smaller portion and he began to cry.

When the father got into the house, he asked why they were making noise and the two explained. This did not go down well with Zuva, who beat them up with an electric cable because they had eaten sadza before the stipulated supper time.

The children sustained some injuries.

The two were rescued by their fellow tenant Vimbai Musugandi.

The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Zuva.

Robbers Snatch 11Kgs Of Gold From How-Mine

By-Armed robbers Tuesday intercepted three security vehicles transporting Gold from How Mine about 10 kilometres from the mine, and got away with 11 kgs of Gold.
How Mine is located in Matebeleland-South province, about 30 kilometres southeast of Bulawayo in southern Zimbabwe.
Sources said there was a gunfight involving security officers from a cash-in-transit truck and the suspects whose vehicles were left riddled with bullet holes.
Eyewitnesses told the Sunday News that the armed robbers were using three vehicles, a Toyota GD 6, a Nissan March and Nissan Hard boy single cab.
It is alleged, How Mine’s internal security manager (name withheld) was following the three cash-in-transit (CIT) vehicles using a Toyota Fortuner from a distance when the ambush took place.
The security manager then pursued the three armed robbers’ vehicles.
A shootout ensued and he managed to shoot the Nissan Hardbody which they then dumped while firing at the security manager.
The manager then pursued the other two vehicles (Toyota GD6 and Nissan March) until Ekusileni Hospital (Hillside) towards the Bulawayo city centre, where the armed robbers managed to escape.
How Mine’s security manager’s vehicle was left with numerous bullet holes.
A revolver gun was recovered from the Nissan Hardbody which was abandoned.
Officials at the mine sent out a distress call warning nearby communities to be on the lookout for the two getaway vehicles.
The Gold which was destined for Fidelity Printers is worth about US$581 555 on international markets as of Tuesday 04 October 2022.
