Warrant Of Arrest For Ailing Mary Mubaiwa After Failing To Climb Stairs

By A Correspondent- Human rights lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa wept in court yesterday after Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s ex-wife, Marry Mubaiwa was issued with a warrant of arrest for failing to climb stairs to the courtroom due to ill health.

Mubaiwa was meant to appear in court on charges of attempting to kill Chiwenga.

She applied for exception of the charges saying the Zimbabwe courts had no jurisdiction over the alleged crime which occurred in neighbouring South Africa,

Mtetwa asked magistrate Florence Chakanyuka to deliver her ruling on Mubaiwa’s application saying her client was seriously ill, and could not make it to the courtroom from her vehicle that was parked outside.

The human rights lawyer asked the court to adjourn and assess her condition outside before giving a ruling.

Mtetwa said she brought Mubaiwa to court despite her state because she was once issued with an arrest warrant while she was admitted in hospital. She had to be brought to court on a stretcher bed.

Prosecutor George Manokore did not oppose Mtetwa’s application to assess Mubaiwa’s health condition.

But Chakanyuka, after adjourning the matter, returned to say there were no provisions for the court to go outside the courtroom to assess Mubaiwa’s condition and issued an arrest warrant.

The Zimbabwean midfielder was omitted from the Sekhukhune squad for the 2022/23 season that was announced on Wednesday.

Tinashe Maphosa, Mai Titi Update

By Simba Chikanza | The following is a summary of the circumstances around the celebrity Mai Titi (Felistas Murata) who has raised several allegations against her estranged husband, Tinashe Maphosa.

Mai Titi was dating a US based man only known as Shepherd, and was looking for a US visa, and the latter applied for her visitors permit. After this, Mai Titi told Shepherd she now has a visa, and the man said, no wait, this is not the right time. At this moment, Mai Titi announced she is carrying Shepherd’s pregnancy, but he didn’t have money for the ticket.

VIDEO LOADING BELOW

https://youtu.be/ITkIua_Zbw4

Shepherd’s sister purchased a plane ticket for her.

Upon arriving in the US, Mai Titi had a misunderstanding with the man and she moved out and changed relationships. She started dating Tinashe Maphosa.

At one time, Tinashe caught the woman talking with Shepherd over the phone and he was not happy with her.

After 3 weeks of starting a relationship with Tinashe, she swiftly got married with him.

She then afterwards, flew to Zimbabwe, and there was plan to get customarily married in Zimbabwe. He followed her to Zim for the lobola ceremony. After the lobola, Tinashe flew to Zimbabwe 3 months later for the wedding. Mai Titi prepared the whole wedding, according to her claim.

Mai Titi now accuses Tinashe of using her own money to get married, and most of the lobola, she scoffs at him saying he borrowed most of the lobola-money. She spends hours filming herself on Facebook-live making a spectacle of him that he is not man enough to use his own money, most of it was borrowed.

Mai Titi says the wedding cost USD100,000 and from it she is claiming USD50,000 in refunds. These claims have caused a misunderstanding.

Mai Titi has been going to different online platforms making several allegations such as that:

1. Tinashe raped her many times; and that he even raped her during her menstruation.

2. Tinashe Maphosa wanted to stab her with a kitchen knife.

3. Tinashe Maphosa owes her USD50,000 from the wedding expenses.

THESE ARE THE AREAS ZIMEYE IS NOW INVESTIGATING WITH TINASHE MAPHOSA.

Mai Titi announces saying she is now on a mission to destroy Tinashe Maphosa. She complains saying she was blocked from entering the US embassy when she tried to enter so she can report him to the ambassador. She launched a hashtag titled, #Tinashemustfall.

Speaking to ZimEye, Mr Maphosa answered explaining why he had to record audio conversations with his wife, saying he had discovered that she lies.

As we prepare for the full grand interview, ZimEye presents the audios of Tinashe with Mai Titi’s UK based aunt, only known as, Mildred. ALL EXCLUSIVE UPDATES ON TINASHE MAPHOSA WILL BE PUBLISHED HERE ON ZIMEYE

Earthquake Hits Kariba

An earthquake of magnitude M4.3 occurred and was felt in the Kariba and surrounding areas at 22:03 hours (10PM) on 2 August 2022.

The epicentre was triangulated by the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) of Zimbabwe to approximately 50km South of Kariba Dam near Bumi Hills. Although this is a naturally active seismic area, it started experiencing increased seismicity after the filling of Lake Kariba in the 1960s. Accordingly, the earthquakes are normal and expected. They are referred to as “reservoir-induced tremors” because they are attributed to the presence of the lake.

In the last twelve months, two earthquakes of equivalent magnitudes and several others of smaller magnitudes occurred south of the Kariba Dam. Of note are magnitude M4.5 and M4.6 earthquakes that occurred on 9 August 2021 and 24 May 2022, with epicentres near Binga and below the Lake respectively.

We wish to assure the public and those domiciled in and around the affected areas that tremors of this magnitude are not expected to affect the structural integrity of the Kariba Dam. We further confirm that there were no unusual observations made from the inspections that were carried out on the morning of 3rd August 2022 nor from the analysis of dam safety data that is collected from several instruments that monitor the behaviour of the dam.

Mavaza: Chamisa A Dictator In Waiting

By Dr Masimba Masimba | Many Zimbabweans have been laying into the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).
Joined by many democratic countries, their disdain for the CCC’s approach to party governance and next year’s crunch elections, is based with the way the CCC is being run. It is a true replica of dictatorship and this has costed them some support from their original handlers. The absence of clearly laid out structures or a constitution has put CCC and Chamusa in the group of a dictatorship led party.

As a democratically elected leader, getting absolute power is no easy feat. Dictatorships are often characterised by some of the following: suspension of elections and civil liberties; proclamation of a state of emergency; rule by decree; repression of political opponents; not abiding by the rule of law procedures, and cult of personality.
Chamisa had managed to ring fence his ambitions by expanding his power base through nepotism and corruption and sexual favours. He has set a way to abuse his leadership for what ever he will do will not be in breach of any constitution since he does not have any constitution to respect. The question Zimbabweans should ask is What will Chamisa do once he is in the State house. His actions now demonstrate that if powerful he will always find ways to abuse his privileges. Be warned, though: You will eventually be rumbled, so corruption tends to work only in the short term. Will this be tje Zimbabwe we want where the president is not governed by any law. Where he does what he wishes whenever he does. Are we serious as Zimbabweans in even thinking that Chamisa should be voted into power.
Chamisa could not hold MDC together. Will he hold the nation together. Chamisa made sure to surround himself with loyal kin whom he can trust to do what’s best for him and his family.
The former minister of Higher Education and the brains behind CCC formation prof Moyo said he was being hard on the Nelson Chamisa-led outfit because it had positioned itself as the country’s main opposition party and alternative to ruling Zanu PF. In defending their aitocratic rule in CCC they said
“The CCC has resisted attempts to corner it into setting up party structures, maintaining their new strategy is bearing fruit and supporters will choose their representatives through their consensus.”
Chamisa has gone as far as blasting those pushing for structures, labelling them Zanu PF coaches. Ironically he said these words during a memorial service of a lawyer and an adent beliver in constitutionalism Alex Magaisa. It was not surprising because Chamisa has been known for turning any funeral into a power grab platform.
“Since CCC styles itself as the main opposition and the only democratic alternative in Zimbabwe; its constitution-less and structureless self raises public interest issues!” said Moyo in response to questions on why he was now against the party he helped to form. Obviously CCC was formed as an offshoot of a G40 but as greedy hamisa will prove Jonathan Moyo was to be sidelined together with anyone who poses as a threat to Nelson Chamisa.
Chamisa has Instigated a monopoly on the use of violence to attract international attention.
Party Dictators cannot survive for long without disarming the people and buttering up their executive.Yet democracies are not always more popular than dictatorships. In reality, members if the CCC prefer dictatorships because Chamisa has put the alternative is chaos. This explains the euphoria about Chamisa Chete Chete which a dictatorial slogan by nature.
Indeed, when given the choice in an experiment, people will desert an unstructured group (analogous to an anything-goes society) and seek the order of a “punishing leaderbwho knows it all alone. The lesson: Any aspiring dictator who restores order, even through coercion, is likely to earn the gratitude of his people. So Chamisa has earned the gratittude of the CCC members and he rules the party as his personal property. Can you imagine him as the president of Zimbabwe. God forbid.
Chamisa’s followers would always ask “Why are you going on and on about #CCC over its lack of a constitution and structures? Stop it”. And Prof Moyo said “Since #CCC styles itself as the main opposition and the only democratic alternative in Zimbabwe; its constitutionless & structureless self raises public interest issues”
Proffessor Moyo was last year touted as a likely addition to the CCC, having offered his services to train the party’s election agents on how to deal with possible rigging by Zanu PF.
The former Tsholotsho legislator had even offered to finance election agents in his former constituency as part of support for Chamisa and his CCC, then MDC Alliance.
Moyo was previously a strong proponent of change, using Chamisa’s hashtags and phrases but he has dumped all that and dismissed the popular #GodIsInIt phrase he had adopted. He has even suggested that the CCC be barred from running in future elections. The members of CCC executive were so much afraid of Moyo because he rendered their positions unsafe. Dor them to be believed by Chamisa they made him believe that there is no other leader but Chamisa.
Then Chamisa started to Curry favour by providing promising public goods efficiently and generously. He came up with tje plea” imbondipai nyika ino for one day inoerera uchi nemukaka. Benevolent dictatorship is being practised by Chamisa and his CCC. Chamisa believes that ordinary people could not be entrusted with power because it would corrupt them, he believes they must not even be allpwed to have a say in the runnings of their party. To that end he is refusing to have a constitution or simply guide lines. He is aware that economics is the major stabilizing force in society so he attacks Zimbabwean economy in order to starve the people of Zimbabwe to poverty. To this end, he effectively eliminated all opposition by using his foot leakers to expell thise suspected to ne against him. To implement his economic policies. CCC members are tolerating these restrictions on their freedom because they sre lied to that God is in it. The ways of a dictator are sleak. Chamisa hopes that his fake promises for restoring the economy and develop large infrastructural projects lile sparget roads will strengthen his power base. But he is forgeting that the Zimbabweans are now wiser. They work with what they can see.
Chamisa did try to Get rid of his political enemies and embreced some like Biti in the hope that the bear hug will neutralize them. So Chamisa has learnt to Keep his political enemies close to him.
Chamisa has resorted to Creating and defeating a common enemy Dictatorships feed on problems and other external help because these justify their existence. Chamisa would want the world to think that Zimbabwe is in serious trouble and is busy suppressing the descending voices. The truth of the matter is that a dictator in waiting will want to appear as a saviour.
More than half of 20th-century rulers engaged in battles at some point during their reign, either as aggressors or defenders. Among dictators, the proportion rises to 88 per cent. Democratic parties find this tactic more difficult to adopt because most wars are unpopular with voters. To attract support, the opposition must be perceived as a defender, not a warmonger
The point Chamisa is doing is to Start a war when your position as leader becomes insecure.

Chamisa is trying to Accumulate power by manipulating the hearts and minds of your citizens. Zimbabweans are being fooled by Chamisa even the Lunatic street pastor Chiwenga said it.
One of the first actions of any aspiring dictator should be to control the free flow of information, because it plugs a potential channel of criticism. So Chamisa is gifted by having the control of private media and has employed and deployed his click soldiers on Social media. He ha tUrned the social media into a propaganda machine for his CCC party like Hitler did. Democratically elected leaders of political parties are somewhat more restrained, but if they have enough powers, they can rig an election or do away with meddlesome journalists or, if money is no object, build their own media empire.
Unsurprisingly, these outlets and social media carefully manage Chamisa’s public image and shielded him from criticism. But Zimbabweans can nolonger be fooled. Aspiring dictators like Chamisa do realise that muzzling the media is most effective in an ordered society:
So Chamisa has been taught by his remaining handlers to Control the media or, even better, own the media. It’s as simple as that.
Like most dictators Chamisa has Created an ideology to justify an exalted position.
Throughout history, leaders have used or in some cases invented an ideology to legitimize their power. So Chamisa is trying to be both political leader and priest, who claimed to be communicating with the gods in order to bring about a victorioud election hence God is init mantra.
Conveniently, this ideology often passed as an explanation of why the Chamisa should occupy the role for life, and why the post should pass to his appointed person. Accordingly, this party CCC spends much time and effort talking about faith to give a formal structure to his power.
Dictatorship, or autocracy, is a system of ruling by one person with absolute power who has no legal restraints on his actions or decisions. He has no constitutional obligations to bind him. The term “dictatorship” comes from the Latin word “dictator”—a magistrate in the Roman Republic who was given absolute power for a short time to deal with a crisis.
A modern dictator is a national leader of a political system who wields absolute power in running his party. This does not fall very far from Chamisa.
The fear every Zimbabwean has is what will happen if Chamisa becomes the president. Hopewell Mbudzi yadhura CHIN’ONO will be the minister of information. Can you even begin to imagine what a nation under ten cruel Pharoes in one will Zimbabwe be.
The only way to stop a dictator like Chamisa from our government is to register to vote and vote for ZANU PF the party which fought for independence and freedom.

ANC Throws Foreigners Under The Bus

By James Gwati- The failing South African ruling African National Congress (ANC) party has joined that country’s opposition parties in an anti-foreign nationals campaign.

ANC shifted its position this week after its policy conference last week.

The party’s spokesperson Pule Mabe told his supporters during a protest against foreign nationals at Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court accused of raping eight South African girls that people would pounce on foreigners.

“We have taken a decision as the ANC that today, we are going to join the picket line at Krugersdorp Magistrate Court. We have come to register our own concerns, frustrations and anger around the issues of undocumented illegal immigrants who continue to commit heinous crimes around the question of rape and illegal zama zamas. We felt that, we now need to elevator thus. We need to make sure that we influence national conversations around issues faced by our people.
” Our people are boiling and we can not garrantee the safety of these undocumented and illigal foreigners, ” he said.

His utterances resulted in the brutal rounding up and attacks on alleged illegal miners in Kagiso Thursday.

ANC is under pressure from its citizens for failing to deliver services.

The sinking revolutionary party has also failed to unite the nation because of corruption, nepotism and factionalism.

Red Devils Seek Redemption

Following their trophy drought and top 4 miss last season, Manchester United will be hoping to step up and challenge for honours when they kick off their 2022/23 season this weekend.

The Red Devils will begin their campaign at Old Trafford on Sunday against Brighton and Hove.

Kick-off is at 3 pm CAT.

SuperSport TV will broadcast the match live across the Sub-Saharan region.

Matchday One Team News
Anthony Martial, who performed well in the pre-season, could miss the 2022/23 season opener due to injury.

The France international was seen holding his leg after being substituted in Saturday’s 1-0 friendly defeat by Atletico Madrid in Oslo.

Luke Shaw returned to training on Wednesday after missing both the Atletico Madrid and Rayo Vallecano games last weekend, while fellow left-back and new signing Tyrell Malacia started against the former so could make his competitive debut.

New coach Erik Ten Hag
With a new coach – Erik ten Hag – in place, the Red Devils are hoping to use the coming campaign for squad remodeling and revive the fortunes.

Club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjær, who led the project for two terms, was fired in November after a poor run of results.

His interim replacement Ralf Rangnick failed to get a tune out of the squad and finished in a disappointing sixth place, 13 points away from the top four places.

Unhappy Cristiano wants out
Rumors of Cristiano Ronaldo looking for a move away for Champions League football somewhat overshadowed United’s pre-season.

Ronaldo had high level talks with the club last week on his return from a prolonged season break.

The Portuguese striker’s first pre-season friendly was against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday but had a bad first impression with ten Hag.

The 37-year-old left the match venue at half-time and his early departure was branded as unacceptable by the new coach.

New signings and departures
United have parted ways with players such as Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata, Andreas Pereira, Nemanja Matić, Alex Telles (loan), Dean Henderson and Jesse Lingard in this current transfer window.

Left back Tyrell Malacia was the first signing followed by Christian Eriksen and Argentinean international defender Lisandro Martinez.

United are still actively in the market and are on the lookout for a striker to replace Ronaldo if he moves on.

PSL Receives Complaints About Poor Officiating

The Premier Soccer League has finally broken silence on the series of complaints regarding match officiating in the local top-flight.

In the past few months, some teams have felt hard done by the poor officiating in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, which has led to some games being abandoned and coaches getting fined for complaining.

The PSL leadership said the problem has come to their attention.

“The PSL has received official complaints from clubs regarding match officiating. We have forwarded these complaints to the Zimbabwe Football Association. We are confident that they will look into the matter,” PSL spokesperson Kudzai Bare said in a statement.

Last week at Baobab, Triangle coach Jairos Tapera stormed off the pitch in protest against Ngezi Platinum’s opener and bizarrely went to the ZTN commentary box, where he asked commentator Howard Musonza to see the replay.

Tapera has since been charged by the PSL.

“The PSL has charged Triangle United FC Coach Jairos Tapera for his inappropriate behaviour during their match against Ngezi Platinum Stars FC played at Baobab Stadium last Sunday.”- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

What Is Hepatitis?

World hepatitis day 2022 data

World Hepatitis Day
is observed each year on 28 July to raise awareness of viral hepatitis, which causes inflammation of the liver that leads to severe disease and liver cancer.

The world is currently facing a new outbreak of unexplained acute hepatitis infections affecting children. WHO, together with scientists and policymakers in affected countries, are working to understand the cause of this infection that does not appear to belong to any of the known 5 types of hepatitis viruses: A,B,C,D, and E.

This new outbreak brings focus on thousands of acute viral hepatitis infections that occur among children, adolescents and adults every year.

Most acute hepatitis infections cause mild disease and even go undetected. But in some cases, they can lead complications and be fatal. In 2019 alone, an estimated 78 000 deaths occurred worldwide due to complications of acute hepatitis A to E infections.

Global efforts prioritize the elimination of the hepatitis infections B, C and D infections. Unlike acute viral hepatitis, these 3 infections cause chronic hepatitis that lasts for several decades and culminate in over 1 million deaths per year from cirrhosis and liver cancer.

These 3 types of chronic hepatitis infections are responsible for over 95% of hepatitis deaths. While we have the guidance and tools to diagnose, treat, and prevent chronic viral hepatitis, these services are often out of reach of communities and are sometimes only available at centralized/specialized hospitals.

On World Hepatitis Day 2022, WHO is highlighting the need for bringing hepatitis care closer to the primary health facilities and communities so that people have better access to treatment and care, no matter what type of hepatitis they may have.

WHO aims to achieve hepatitis elimination by 2030. To get there, WHO calls on countries to achieve specific targets:

Reduce new infections of hepatitis B and C by 90%;
Reduce hepatitis related deaths from liver cirrhosis and cancer by 65%;
Ensure that at least 90% of people with hepatitis B and C virus are diagnosed; and
At least 80% of those eligible receive appropriate treatment.

Over 180 Nabbed Over Cross Border Crimes

By A Correspondent-The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced that it arrested 189 people on Sunday over cross-border crimes bringing the total number of people arrested since the launch of the operation code-named “No to Cross Border Crimes” to 169 139.

The operation was launched on the 1st of July 2021. The operation targets illegal border crossing, and smuggling.

Police have also advised that 124 people were arrested on Sunday under the operation, “No to machete gangs” bringing the cumulative arrests since January this year to 33 764.

Meanwhile, police national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi has urged motorists to be cautious this Heroes and Defense Forces holiday to avoid road traffic accidents. Nyathi said:

The police are in full force to ensure that motorists observe road regulations during the holiday as there is increased movement. The holiday started on a bad note, but we do not want to lose more lives because of reckless drivers. Transport operators should ensure that their vehicles are road worthy so that they do not put travellers at risk.

Passengers should know that they have a right to report drivers who will be breaking road regulations. This is one way that accidents can be avoided. The public should work together with the police to ensure we avoid accidents and the loss of lives.

The holiday starts on a sad note after five people died in an accident which occurred along the Harare-Masvingo highway on Saturday when a Nissan Note vehicle collided with a truck.

Police Says They Are Fair In Banning CCC Rallies

Police claim they have been fair in implementing provisions of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act (Mopa), and have instead blamed opposition parties and civic society organisations (CSOs) of failing to adhere to the Act’s provisions when applying to hold rallies or protests.

On several occasions, police have blocked opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) rallies and planned protests by CSOs.

Ruling Zanu-PF party events have, however, never been barred or disrupted.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi told NewsDay that some of the reasons opposition rallies and protests by CSOs are barred included their failure to employ marshals, and to stick to scheduled times, which police believe pose security threats.

Nyathi also said the opposition and CSOs were failing to advise local residents of their planned events.

“There is a difference between notifying and working on the security modalities with the police, if you are to go by Mopa,” he said.

“There are certain parameters which conveners of meetings, public gatherings and demonstrations have to comply with on their part. Merely notifying does not mean that a person has fulfilled all the conditions that are outlined under Mopa. The public must be adequately advised on the security measures they have put in place when they want to do some of these gatherings in consideration of the rights of others. It is not just a matter of notifying and ending there. There are security considerations that have to be made by the conveners. When they go to the police and are told that they have not met these security considerations, they start complaining.”

Last week, police used Mopa to ban a CCC event in Glen Norah, where the party’s local legislator Wellington Chikombo wanted to celebrate his March 26 by-election victory.

Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) had also planned a protest on July 22, but it was stopped under Mopa.

CiZC president Peter Mutasa said: “We submitted our notification after engaging a group of law experts to craft the notification to ensure that we did not err. But we failed, despite that which shows that the law enforcement officer wants to effect a blanket ban on protests. Section 8 of Mopa allows for negotiation and consultation of the concerned party with the police. The law appreciates that not every ordinary person could be fully cognisant of it.”

The opposition CCC feels that Mopa was now a new tool of oppression.

Party spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said: “It’s not correct that we do not adhere to the requirements of Mopa. Rather, when we do invoke the provisions of this statute, we are met with flimsy reasons for the banning of our rallies such as the fact that there isn’t enough manpower or misrepresentations, and that someone else is using our chosen venue when this is not true.

“What is beyond doubt is that the playing field is not free and fair, but that will not stop us from escalating our nationwide mass mobilisation programmes.”

Mutsvangwa Called To Order For Defending ED Over Susan Mutami Allegations

By Tendai Mbofana| I never desire to wade into these sexual indiscretion scandals, or sexual abuse accusations, which have hounded well-known Zimbabwean leaders of late – both from the ruling and opposition formations – since, I vehemently believe these are matters largely based either on allegations (and, requiring substantiated evidence), or are of a legal nature, whose outcome should be determined by the criminal justice system.

I have a strong aversion to running to conclusions on any issue, unless and until incontrovertible proof, which is beyond any reason doubt, is presented before me – and as such, make it a point of principle not to publicly express my personal opinions on any subject I am not absolutely sure about.

Nonetheless, it becomes my business, and the rest of the country’s citizenry, when such emotive issues – which either expose a lack of self-control, moral integrity, and trustworthiness, as well as having the potential of being pure criminality – are treated with frivolity and flippancy, as if they were of no consequence or even a big sick joke.

Let it be clear that, how one behaves in their private life, has a most significant impact and bearing on the concerned individual’s or perpetrator’s suitability for an office of responsibility and leadership.

That is why, on 19 December 1998, the then US (United States of America) president William J. Clinton was formally impeached by his country’s House of Representatives – although, later acquitted by Senate – for his romantic encounters with White House intern, Monica Lewinsky, between 1995 and 1997.

As much as these were consensual, the fact that this was a married man committing acts of adultery, seriously jeopardized his good standing, and made him unsuitable for a position of leadership – that carries with it high standards of integrity, and should be bound by exceptional levels of virtue.

Besides, why should a nation trust someone who cannot even remain faithful to his or her sacred vows of marriage, and cannot be depended upon to fulfil his or her promises, or be committed to values of honesty – since, such untrustworthiness can easily be transfered to his or her work ethics?

Therefore, it would be the height of disingenuousness for anyone to attempt to trivialize, or even outrightly dismiss and disparage any such allegations of sexual indiscretions, or sexual abuse – whether these have been substantiated or not.

No matter whom these allegations have been made against – the gravity of their significance can never be taken lightly – especially, being based on one’s political leanings.

Which is the most disturbing scenario we worryingly witness in Zimbabwe, as these accusations are either readily accepted or rejected purely premised on which political entity made them, or against a culprit from which side.

So, if the person being accused is from my political party, the allegations have to be false and baseless – most likely the work of political opponents.

And, if the victim is from my political party, then the allegations have to be true, and accepted at face value.

If this is how we are to deal with issues of such magnitude, then we are in serious trouble as Zimbabweans – and, exposes immaturity of the lowest order.

“Why Should The Nation Support Someone Who Is Unfaithful To Their Vows”

I never desire to wade into these sexual indiscretion scandals, or sexual abuse accusations, which have hounded well-known Zimbabwean leaders of late – both from the ruling and opposition formations – since, I vehemently believe these are matters largely based either on allegations (and, requiring substantiated evidence), or are of a legal nature, whose outcome should be determined by the criminal justice system.

And, if the victim is from my political party, then the allegations have to be true, and accepted at face value.

If this is how we are to deal with issues of such magnitude, then we are in serious trouble as Zimbabweans – and, exposes immaturity of the lowest order.

For instance, the most recent shocking utterances by the ruling ZANU PF spokesperson Chris Mutsvangwa – in response to damning accusations made by Australian-based socialite, Susan Mutami, to the effect that she was repeatedly sexually violated by Zimbabwe President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, from the age of 15 years – cannot go unchallenged.

Instead of either keeping his mouth firmly shut, and refusing to comment on a matter whose details he may not be well informed – Mutsvangwa elected to ridicule the claims, by wondering why a huge deal was being made over the matter, yet “even trees and birds had sex”!

Need he be reminded that, these serious allegations are to do with sexual abuse, and were never based on consensual encounters, considering that the law frowns upon those who commit statutory rape – which is now regarded as pure rape, as she was supposedly still under the age of sexual consent.

Needless to say, even had these been consensual – between two agreeable adults, as we witnessed with the Clinton-Lewinsky case, when one of the parties was married – this still translates into gross immorality and untrustworthiness, that is not to be expected from a person occupying a position of authority.

For Mutsvangwa to dismiss the rape claims, out of hand, as insignificant, inconsequential, and even comedic – since the country had other more pressing matters to attend to, such as economic development – smacks of gross arrogance, and an affront on the broader fight against gender-based violence and sexual abuse…a scourge that has torn apart the fabric of our society as Zimbabweans.

What, then, does this say about the ruling party itself, and the government as a whole – with regard their perception of sexual violence?

Maybe, this is a silly question – considering that this is the same entity that was severely enraged, after a May 1996 movie depicting the country’s armed liberation struggle, ‘Flame’, captured the rape of female combatants by male ZANLA guerrillas.

Yet, these were real events that took place – with some female war veterans having even confided in me about what happened to them during the war – and, therefore, should never be ignored, denied, or swept under the carpet.

What more, this is the same regime that has been severally accused of using sexual violence as a weapon against female opposition activists.

Why, then, should we be particularly shocked when a very senior ruling party official – in fact, not just any official, but the face and voice of ZANU PF – pokes fun at grave allegations of sexual abuse at the hands of their own leader?

Any party that wants to be taken seriously by the citizenry should have expressed their disapproval and disgust of any incidents of sexual abuse, or at the very least, refused to be dragged into this issue, and distanced themselves from the matter.

By choosing to turn this into a comic matter – exposes a deep-rooted sickening trait within the psyche of the ruling party in Zimbabwe.

How, then, is the country expected to come out of the ravenous demon of sexual abuse, with such people in power?

Zanu Pf MP Survives Road Accident

By A Correspondent- Zanu-PF Mutasa South legislator Misheck Mugadza survived a road accident on Wednesday afternoon after his vehicle was involved in a head on collision with a haulage truck in Macheke, Mashonaland East province.

He was on his way to Harare.

Mashonaland East deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Misheck Denhere confirmed the accident to NewsDay yesterday.

“I can confirm the accident, but I cannot give you finer details because I am out of office,” Denhere said

Mugadza, who is also a Zanu-PF Manicaland provincial member, is reportedly admitted at West End Hospital in the capital.

Zanu-PF Mutare District Coordination Committee chairperson Binali Yard yesterday said Mugadza’s condition was stable.

“Mugadza was involved in a road accident with a haulage truck, but he is in a stable condition,” Yard said.

“We are overwhelmed by the number of people who want to find out how Mugadza is copying after the accident.”

Mugadza won the Mutasa South constituency after defeating Citizens Coalition for Change candidate Regai Tsunga in the March 26 by-elections.

The seat had fallen vacant after Tsunga was recalled from Parliament by then MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora.

Meanwhile, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi yesterday said there had been a 22% increase in road accidents since the beginning of this year.

Officiating at the launch of the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) Heroes and Defence Forces Safety campaign, Nyathi said:  “There is need for change of mindset if we are to achieve road safety. The country has had a 22% increase in road accidents since the beginning of the year, with 2 480 hit and run accidents resulting in people getting injured and loss of life taking place.”

TSCZ chairperson Kura Sibanda urged motorists to minimise accidents during the holidays.

“As we launch the 2022 Heroes Holiday Road Safety Campaign, we do so under the shadow of a dark cloud, which is a stark reminder of why we should redouble our efforts to arrest the carnage on our roads. A week ago, six people died after two heavy vehicles collided along the Masvingo Highway,” Sibanda said.

He said the Highway Code would be translated into Shona and Ndebele.

By A Correspondent- United Zimbabwe Alliance (UZA) President Elisabeth Valerio has said the recently announced Budget Review statement fell short of expectations as it failed to address the key economic fundamentals fueling inflation.

In a twitter thread, President Valerio said Finance minister, Mthuli Ncube was very ambitious on the revised growth projections that contradict inflation projections and balance of payment performance.

She said:

“The economy has self dollarised and institutions have debased their budgets to USD using the official exchange rate resulting in over priced services in USD.

The minister was expected to make policy announcements about how government will address the chaos.”

Earthquake Shakes Kariba

By-An earthquake has hit By-Kariba and its surrounding areas.

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) of Zimbabwe estimates that the epicentre was approximately 50km South of Kariba Dam near Bumi Hills.

In a statement, MSD said earthquakes were a common phenomenon in the area.

Reads the statement:

Mnangagwa Turns To HH For Economic Rescue

By-The Emerson Mnangagwa administration is now focusing on Zambia for assistance to resurrect the suffocating economy.

The state media reports that Mnangagwa’s envoy to Zambia, Charity Charamba, is in diplomatic talks with Lusaka for business collaborations.

Harare wants local firms, including small to medium enterprises (SMEs), to trade, with Zambia.

Speaking in an interview after more than 30 Zimbabwean firms took part at the 94th Zambia Agriculture and Commercial Show (ZACS), which ended on Monday, Ambassador Charamba said local firms must take advantage of the proximity between the two countries as well as the fact that both countries are members of SADC and COMESA.
Trade development and promotion body, ZimTrade, facilitated the participation of the local firms and because of the high level of organisation and the quality of products on display, the Zimbabwe Pavillion was awarded the Best Recognition to International Exhibit.
Winning the award, according to Ambassador Charamba, was “a thumbs up for Zimtrade and the country at large”.

“We are excited but at the same time, it actually underscores that our products are highly competitive,” said Ambassador Charamba.
Some of the local products on display included those from large firms such as Dairibord, Tanganda, Cairns, Zimplow, Agricura, Windmill, AE Electricals, and Turnall as well as those from small to medium enterprises such as Good Hope Leather Products, Das Foods, Millenium Footwear, Bernard Remegious, and Triple Tee Footwear.
Ambassador Charamba said the participation of local firms shows that as a country “we have identified markets here.”
She said some of the visitors and buyers that came to the Zimbabwe Pavilion “had actually indicated that they want our companies to set up base in Zambia”.

ZEC Rejects CCC Dialogue Request

By-The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has turned down the opposition CCC’s calls for bilateral dialogue on alleged electoral malpractices.

Last Wednesday, the CCC wrote to ZEC requesting dialogue to address its concerns over the electoral body’s alleged lack of impartiality in discharging its mandate.

However, ZEC spokesperson Jasper Mangwana said they only recognised talks on electoral issues under the multi-party liaison committees. Mangwana tweeted:

Electoral malpractices are an offence in terms of the Electoral Act. They can be corrected by making a report for investigation to the police, Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission and the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission where a docket should be opened for prosecution.

Alternatively, any aggrieved party is at liberty to approach the Electoral Court for redress.

ZEC is always open to dialogue with all its stakeholders using the multi-party liaison committees (MPLCs) which are decentralised to all 10 provinces and 63 districts.

ZEC does not meet individual stakeholders at the exclusion of others. MPLCs are the dialogue vehicle for electoral issues.

Dialogue is a central part of ZEC’s mandate provided it is inclusive of all stakeholders.

CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere challenged Mangwana’s assertions saying there is no law that prohibits ZEC from engaging in an exclusive dialogue with the party raising issues of concern. Said Mahere:

ZEC is a constitutional commission that has a constitutional obligation to consult all stakeholders and receive complaints from the public and respond to them accordingly.

They have a peremptory legal duty to address the concerns of the citizens whether in a bilateral or multilateral process.

There is no law prohibiting it from engaging bilaterally on electoral concerns. This is the basis upon which we have engaged them and submitted a detailed dossier containing empirical and wide-ranging evidence of electoral manipulation which irregularities they have previously claimed they were unaware of.

This is all in the spirit of driving the electoral reform agenda and ensuring that we do not have another disputed, problematic election in 2023.

ZEC has in the past dismissed allegations of rigging elections in ZANU PF’s favour and has demanded evidence from disgruntled parties to back their claims.

Chinese Embassy Becomes First Ever To Defend Crimes

The Chinese ambassador to Zimbabwe, Guo Shaochun, yesterday became the first ever to defend its citizens’s crimes.

The ambassador to Zimbabwe, Guo Shaochun, yesterday shot down claims of abuse of workers by Chinese employers, describing the conflicts as “mere misunderstanding and cultural clashes”.
There have, however, been several reports of physical abuse of workers at Chinese-owned companies while mine workers have complained about low wages being paid at Chinese operations.

Addressing the media yesterday, Guo said Chinese employers were doing everything above the law, adding that the “few” incidents were fuelled by misunderstanding.

“Most Chinese employers keep good relationships with local workers. Some allegations of improper practices by a few Chinese employers are mainly because of misunderstanding or cultural differences. The embassy’s position is clear that all Chinese companies are encouraged to do more for local people and must comply with the laws, regulations, culture and customs of the host country,” Guo said.

He called for strengthening of relations between foreign investors and locals must be strengthened.

“Wrongdoers must be held accountable. The embassy also encourages and supports the Zimbabwean government, the media, local communities and other stakeholders in promoting mutual understanding and good relations between Chinese employers and local workers,” he said.

“For years, Chinese companies have not only created thousands of local jobs, but also actively conducted their social responsibilities for the local communities by building hospitals, schools and roads, drilling boreholes and donating foodstuffs.”

The embassy also refuted claims that Chinese businesses do not bank money in the country and write their invoices in Mandarin to avoid paying taxes.

“Chinese companies have been investing in and growing with Zimbabwe for years. They have created thousands of local jobs, increased the country’s tax revenues and forex inflows, upskilled local workers and generated business opportunities for local companies.

“Our basic position is clear. All businesses, including those from China, must comply with the laws and regulations in the host country. Wrongdoers must be held accountable. We support Zimbabwe in strengthening its regulatory framework and law enforcement,” Guo added.

“We call for compliance monitoring teams composed of government officials, local councillors, and community representatives to be set up in foreign-invested companies. If anyone finds the possible wrongdoings of Chinese companies in Zimbabwe, he or she is welcome to file official complaints to the relevant Zimbabwean authorities, but we suggest such complaints consist of necessary basic elements.” Newsday

Mnangagwa Jets Into Moza

Emmerson Mnangagwa today joins Sadc regional leaders for a high-level meeting that will culminate in the signing of a declaration providing for the protection of indigenous forests from rapid exploitation.

The President arrived last night to attend the High-Level Session of the Regional Conference on Sustainable and Integrated Management of Miombo forests.

He was welcomed at Maputo International Airport by Mozambican Foreign Affairs and Co-operation Minister Verónica Macamo and Zimbabwean Ambassador to Mozambique Victor Matemadanda.

Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Mangaliso Ndlovu was already in Maputo as part of an advance delegation.

President Mnangagwa was accompanied by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister, Ambassador Frederick Shava, and Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet (Presidential Communications) Mr George Charamba.

In an interview, Forestry Commission general manager Mr Abedinigo Marufu said the conference will culminate in the signing of a binding declaration enjoining parties to the agreement, to protect the Miombo woodlands.

Miombo woodlands are tropical and subtropical grasslands, savannas, and shrublands biome located primarily in Central Africa.

“We are talking about management of our indigenous forests; you know we have been talking about planting trees, primarily exotic trees,” said Mr Marufu.

He said Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi came up with an idea to look after the Miombo woodlands.

“These are woodlands where we have trees such as Munondo, Musasa and Mupfuti, among many others.

“In Zimbabwe, if you go to the Mashonaland provinces you will see vast areas of those woodlands, which provide livelihoods to communities.”

Mr Marufu said Miombo woodlands were fast disappearing on account of deforestation.

In Zimbabwe, a lot of tobacco farmers are using Musasa trees to cure tobacco, he said, resulting in the loss of vast forests.

“So the (SADC) region — nine countries that are here which have got those species — is discussing how we can manage those trees which are very good for our bio-diversity.

“Our forests are also good for tourism so we want to protect them. We want to grow them and make sure that we deal with climate change.

“So this is a grouping of like-minded countries, including Zimbabwe, who are saying let’s come together and sign a declaration which is what we came here to do.”

Mr Marufu said President Mnangagwa will sign the declaration on behalf of Zimbabwe.

He is also expected to meet his Mozambican counterpart, President Nyusi.

The two leaders are expected to discuss a range of bilateral issues, including power imports.

Earlier, President Mnangagwa was seen off at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, Cabinet ministers, Service Chiefs and senior Government officials. -Herald

Video: ZEC Reluctant To Encourage Citizens To Vote

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC has pointed out that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission is not at all concerned about spreading the voter registration process to all citizens.

Speaking at a media briefing in Harare on Thursday, CCC officials Fadzayi Mahere and Ian Makone challenged citizens to push for reforms from all angles.

About Breastfeeding Concept

As global crises continue to threaten the health and nutrition of millions of babies and children, the vital importance of breastfeeding as the best possible start in life is more critical than ever.

This World Breastfeeding Week, under its theme Step up for breastfeeding: Educate and Support, UNICEF and WHO are calling on governments to allocate increased resources to protect, promote and support breastfeeding policies and programmes, especially for the most vulnerable families living in emergency settings.

During emergencies, including those in Afghanistan, Ukraine, Yemen, the Horn of Africa, and the Sahel, breastfeeding guarantees a safe, nutritious and accessible food source for babies and young children. It offers a powerful line of defense against disease and all forms of child malnutrition, including wasting.

Breastfeeding also acts as a baby’s first vaccine, protecting them from common childhood illnesses.

Yet the emotional distress, physical exhaustion, lack of space and privacy, and poor sanitation experienced by mothers in emergency settings mean that many babies are missing out on the benefits of breastfeeding to help them survive.

Fewer than half of all newborn babies are breastfed in the first hour of life, leaving them more vulnerable to disease and death. And only 44% of infants are exclusively breastfed in the first 6 months of life, short of the World Health Assembly target of 50% by 2025.

Protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding is more important than ever, not just for protecting our planet as the ultimate natural, sustainable, first food system, but also for the survival, growth and development of millions of infants.

That is why UNICEF and WHO are calling on governments, donors, civil society and the private sector to step up efforts to:

prioritize investing in breastfeeding support policies and programmes, especially in fragile and food insecure contexts;
equip health and nutrition workers in facilities and communities with the skills they need to provide quality counselling and practical support to mothers to successfully breastfeed;
protect caregivers and health-care workers from the unethical marketing influence of the formula industry by fully adopting and implementing the International Code of Marketing of Breast-Milk Substitutes, including in humanitarian settings; and
implement family-friendly policies that provide mothers with the time, space and support they need to breastfeed.

Court Frees Mnangagwa Critic

By-High Court Judge Justice Rodgers Manyangadze has freed the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe President Obert Masaraure.

In his ruling, Judge Manyangadze said that the previous Judge had misdirected himself in opposing bail because Masaraure is a flight risk.

Masaraure was seeking his release from remand prison on charges of defeating and obstructing the course of justice.

Justice Manyangadze ordered Masaraure to pay ZW$50 000 and report once every fortnight to Harare Central police CID Law and Order.

He had spent 27 days at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison.

Masaraure had been jailed on charges of inciting public violence after he posted on his Twitter that the CID Law and Order department was being weaponised to paralyse ARTUZ operations.

In a statement released following Masaraure’s release, ARTUZ said:

Finally! President @OMasaraure has been granted bail of 50 000RTGS and to report once every fortnight to CID law and order between 8 am and 4 pm.

In our conscience, we maintain that freedom delayed is freedom denied. President Obert is not a criminal and therefore all charges laid against him should be dropped.

Chamisa Offers Practical Economic Recovery Path

By- Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader has laid out a comprehensive economic recovery plan.

The proposal has several measures which he said could stabilise the economy.

Below is Chamisa’s proposal he offered after last weeks Finance minister Mthuli Ncube’s empty mid-term budget review.

The following must be done immediately:

a) Dollarisation which will immediately eliminate distortions, forward pricing and multiple pricing;

b) Restoration of the US$540 as a starting salary;

c) Holistic tax reform. Reduce the tax burden on citizens and the business in general. As part of the tax reforms, we will remove the 2% tax and streamline taxes; d)Remove distortions esp in the agricultural sector and construction sectors which has created a casino economy

e) The elimination of the Currency Auction and reforming the RBZ through limiting the power of the central bank. Separating the roles of central banking and financial services supervision.

f) Reforming the budgetary process, so that the budget comes from parliament and not from ministry of Finance. The budget must come from the Citizens -a Citizens-centered budget.

g) Radically dealing with the corruption pandemic and instituting special mechanisms to eliminate and punish the corrupt.

h) Holding credible, free and fair elections preceded by a comprehensive pact on electoral reforms.

i) Only a leadership change will rescue our beautiful country and in no time turn and transform this Zimbabwe from ruins to greatness. We are new leaders. #RegisterToVoteZW

London Foes Palace, Arsenal Clash In EPL Opener

The English Premier League action will return this weekend when the 2022/23 season begins.

The new campaign kicks off on Friday 5 August, with the first fixture happening at Selhurst Park between Crystal Palace and their London rivals Arsenal.

The opening round will continue over the following two days with newly-promoted side Nottingham Forest travelling to Newcastle United, while fellow newcomers Fulham will take on Liverpool.

The Bournemouth versus Aston Villa clash at the Vitality Stadium could leave a historic mark in the Zimbabwean football.

The country will this term be represented by the Cherries defender Jordan Zemura and Villa midfielder Marvelous Nakamba.

If both players are in action on Saturday, this would be the first time in over two decades that two fully-capped Zimbabwean players are on opposite sides in the English top flight.

The other time this happened was in the mid-90s when Peter Ndlovu was at Coventry City while Bruce Grobbelaar had settled at Southampton.

Even if the two fail to meet on Saturday, history could still be made if Zemura makes his EPL debut to become the latest Zimbabwean player to feature in the top-flight.

The young fullback could join the likes of Saturday’s nemesis Nakamba, ex-Manchester City striker Benjani Mwaruwari, Peter Ndlovu (Birmingham City) and Bruce Grobbelaar (Liverpool) as fully-capped Warriors internationals to play in the EPL.

Zimbabwe left-back Brendon Galloway played for Everton but did so while representing England’s junior teams.

Elsewhere, champions Manchester City face a trip to West Ham United, while Chelsea will be up against Everton.

SuperSport TV will show all the games live across various channels.

Meanwhile, this season will be unique in that the campaign will take a mid-season break for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, with the last match set to happen on the weekend of 12 November.

The action will resume on Boxing Day, just eight days after the World Cup final in Lusail.

First round of fixtures in full:

05/08/2022 — 21:00 Crystal Palace v Arsenal

06/08/2022 — 13:30 Fulham v Liverpool
06/08/2022 — 16:00 A.F.C. Bournemouth v Aston Villa
06/08/2022 — 16:00 Leeds United v Wolverhampton
06/08/2022 — 16:00 Leicester City v Brentford
06/08/2022 — 16:00 Newcastle United v Nottingham Forest
06/08/2022 — 16:00 Tottenham Hotspur v Southampton
06/08/2022 — 18:30 Everton v Chelsea

Voters Roll Very Perfect, Says ZEC

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) yesterday claimed that its voters roll was “very perfect” after only 1% of registered voters made corrections to their details.

Statistics released by Zec yesterday show that the turnout for the delimitation voters roll inspection was 50,03%, with 2 904 253 voters out of 5 804 497 registered voters confirming their details.

Of these, 789 967 (27,20%) physically visited polling stations to inspect their details and 2 114 286 (72,80%) used the Unstructured Supplementary Service Data service.

Zec said it received 27 788 (0,96%) requests for corrections on name changes, spelling errors and addresses, among others.

The exercise ran from July 17 to 27.

Zec spokesperson Jasper Mangwana told NewsDay that the few number of errors showed that the voters roll was perfect.

“27 788 queries came from the people that needed corrections. Some changed names, surnames and some were just typo errors, which is 0,96%. It means that the voters roll is very perfect and there is no reason to continue to worry saying the voters roll is

in shambles when the owners of the details have inspected them,” Mangwana said.

“50,03% (turnout), that’s a huge number. If you’re the owner of information coming to inspect and you’re happy with it, it means that what the commission is doing is in compliance with the level of accuracy needed by a lot of people.”

Mangwana said Zec had since started effecting the corrections.

But opposition parties, political analysts and election watchdogs said the voters roll could only be said to be clean if Zec addresses concerns raised by civil society organisations.

“It will be premature to validate the perfectness of any voters roll before it is subjected to a comprehensive audit and public scrutiny to ascertain its completeness, currency, and accuracy,” Citizens Coalition for Change interim deputy secretary for elections Ellen Shiriyedenga said.

“The public has not had sight of the updated delimitation voters roll. There is a potential under-registration of over two million eligible voters.”

Zimbabwe Election Advocacy Trust executive director Ignatius Sadziwa said: “The voter inspection turnout figures are far from pleasing despite a mobile searching platform which we hoped was going to ease the process.

“It’s incumbent on all stakeholders to engage and build consensus around citizens on such important national issues.”

I Do Not Know Boss Pangolin: Sekuru Banda

By A Correspondent| Popular Harare based traditional healer Sekuru Banda has denied assisting the late Tafadzwa Boss Pangolin Murengwa who was buried yesterday after committing suicide early into the week.

Sekuru Banda’s response followed circulating messages alleging that Boss Pangolin left a suicide note with instructions which includes having the celebrated traditional healer being consulted to remove some unnamed things left in the late dealer’s house.

In a statement released yesterday, Sekuru Banda said he has received numerous calls from people wanting to know if he indeed assisted Boss Pangolin.

“I have received numerous calls and enquiries from the media and ordinary citizens on the circulating message alleging that I am supposed to go and remove certain things from the late boss Pangolin’s house.

“While the authenticity of the circulating message has not been verified, I want to categorically state that I do not know Boss Pangolin and I do not remember him coming to my shrine.

“I wish to also state that the late Boss Pangolin’s family has not contacted me for assistance. In any way they will not contact me because my work does not involve ‘kurombesa’,” said Sekuru Banda.

He urged youths to avoid going after easy wealth saying it has dire consequences.

“While I acknowledge that there are people who seek quick means of getting rich, I discourage anyone including our youths from taking such a route.

“Young people should work hard and avoid falling into the trap of going the kuromba route. It has dire consequences and must never be an option. Our economy may not be performing well right now but let’s all be patient with time,” added Sekuru Banda.

ARTUZ Leader Granted ZWL$50k Bail

Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has been granted ZWL$50 000 bail by the High Court.

The High Court judge, Justice Manyangadze found it that the state misdirected itself in opposing bail on account that Masaraure is a flight risk.

The High court also noted that bail is a constitutional right and thus imperative to Masaraure’s case.

He was ordered to report once every fortnight at Harare Central police CID law and order between 8am and 4pm.

Another Bread Price Hike On The Radar

Zimbabweans should brace for another bread price hike after the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) increased the price of wheat by 30%, industry officials said yesterday.

NewsDay understands that GMB increased wheat prices from $239 000 to $310 000 per tonne in local currency, or US$680 at the interbank rate.

National Bakers’ Association of Zimbabwe president Dennis Walla said players in the sector would be forced to also increase the bread price to cover operational costs.

“Wheat is a major component in the baking of bread. So when GMB increases the price, it affects the pricing of bread,” he said in an interview.

A loaf of bread is currently pegged at $790 or US$1,75 using the interbank rate in retail shops. On the streets, bread is being sold for US$1 plus $200 to $300.

Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe corporate affairs manager Andrew Kunambura said they were trying to negotiate with GMB over the latest wheat price increase.

“I can confirm that there are price increases, but there are negotiations to try and find a way of preventing further increases in the bread value chain,” he said.

GMB chief executive Rockie Mutenha could not be reached for comment.

However, reports indicate that GMB has also increased the producer price of maize and traditional grains from $75 000 to $100 000, but maintained the price of US$90.

The producer price of a tonne of soya beans is now $228 666 up from
$171 495, but is unchanged at US$90 in foreign currency.

The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) said the looming bread price increase was a sad development for the country’s workforce, already grappling with the rising cost of living while salaries remain stagnant.

ZCTU secretary-general Japhet Moyo said further worsening the situation was that employers were struggling to keep pace with rising operational costs in an inflationary environment.

“Bread is a staple food. Every family relies on bread. Once you increase the cost of wheat, it automatically affects the majority of people. Those that are high class in society go out for lunch and dinner, but the majority survive on bread to get through the day,” Moyo said.

“Families might not be able to get the food that they always depend on. It is a sad development at a time when collective bargaining in various sectors has not been producing anything. There are deadlocks, people are not concluding any agreements. Employers are not raising wages.”

Inflation reached 256,9% in July, from 191,6% recorded in June, according to the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency.

National Consumer Rights Association spokesperson Effie Ncube said the bread price hike would increase hunger in the country.

“The increase in the price of wheat will inevitably drive up the price of bread and related confectioneries and as such, sink even more people below the food poverty line. This will contribute to increased hunger in the country, an outcome that will have devastating consequences,” Ncube said.

Marry Mubaiwa Protests Trial Delays

Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga’s former wife, Marry Mubaiwa, has protested delays in a trial where she faces charges of money-laundering.

Mubaiwa protested on Wednesday after the State further postponed the matter saying the docket was under consideration.

The State has failed to give a trial date for months, asking for further postponements.

Mubaiwa’s lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa accused the State of acting unprofessionally in Mubaiwa’s case.

“The State indicated that it will provide all necessary documents, but here we are, the State is making more excuses,” Mtetwa submitted.

“We request that for once, Your Worship, put the accused person rights’ first. The accused cannot come to court for three years for nothing.”

Mtetwa told the court that the State has to give compelling reasons for delaying taking the matter to trial, saying it is prejudicial to her client who has to keep reporting to police.

“The court should be seen to be implementing its ruling. Every prejudice is being suffered. We are opposing further postponement,” she argued.

Magistrate Stanford Mambanje postponed the matter to August 12.

Auxillia Mnangagwa’s Noisy Body Language As Grace Called ED A Paedephile

Journalists Charged With Publishing False Data Messages

Alpha Media Holdings editor-in-chief Wisdom Mdzungairi and senior reporter Desmond Chingarande were on the 3 August 2022 arrested and charged over a story they published pertaining to the legal squabbles relating to Glenforest Memorial Park in Harare.

The two are being accused of contravening Section 164C of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, as amended through the Cyber and Data Protection Act, which relates to publishing false data messages intending to cause harm.

Lawyer, Jeremiah Bamu, who was deployed by MISA Zimbabwe said the police recorded their warned and cautioned statements and advised that they would be notified of the court dates.

AMH are publishers of NewsDay, Zimbabwe Independent and The Standard newspapers.

MISA Zimbabwe position

MISA Zimbabwe reiterates its long-standing position that when journalists are undertaking their professional duties, they will be exercising their constitutional rights as stipulated in Section 61 of the Constitution and that they have a right to seek, receive and impart information.

Any limitation to this right should qualify under the three-pronged test, which requires legality, proportionality and necessity. It is also our position that criminal sanctions on false news are disproportionate and not necessary.

The Constitutional Court in the case of Chimakure and Others vs The Attorney General and Others, stressed this position with regards to Section 31 of the same Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act which criminalises publishing or communicating false statements prejudicial to the State.

The Court said that such provisions have a chilling effect on free expression. Quoting the UN Special Rapporteur, Deputy Chief Justice Malaba, as he then was, noted the following:

“In the case of offences such as publishing or broadcasting “false” or “alarmist” information, prison terms are both reprehensible and out of proportion to the harm suffered by the victim. In all such cases imprisonment as punishment for the peaceful expression of an opinion constitutes a serious violation of human rights.”

The civil claim of defamation is already in existence for persons aggrieved by a story published by a journalist or media house, or where they are of the opinion that the story was false.

This civil route equally applies to the provisions of Section 164C if a person suffers economic harm or psychological harm. If anything, Section 164C resuscitates criminal defamation which was already outlawed in the case of Madanhire vs Minister of Justice and Others.

In that regard, MISA Zimbabwe appeals to the legislature and other key stakeholders, including the Attorney General’s Office and the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs to do away with these unconstitutional provisions that continue to criminalise publishing of falsehoods.

Chamisa Lays Out Alternative Economic Recovery Plan

By- Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa, has laid out a comprehensive economic recovery plan.

The proposal has several measures which he said could stabilise the economy.

Below is Chamisa’s proposal he offered after last weeks Finance minister Mthuli Ncube’s empty mid-term budget review.

The following must be done immediately:

a) Dollarisation which will immediately eliminate distortions, forward pricing and multiple pricing;

b) Restoration of the US$540 as a starting salary;

c) Holistic tax reform.

Mai Titi In Embarrassing Wedding Debts

By- Socialite and comedian Felistas Murata, aka Mai Titi, has poured out her heart, disclosing that she is heartbroken and regrets marrying her United States-based husband Tinashe Maphosa.

The couple’s marriage has become rocky barely three months after they tied the knot.

The couple made headlines after they splashed over US$100,000 on a lavish wedding held at Royal Gates in Chisipite in April this year.

According to media reports, to book this picturesque venue, Mai Titi paid US$6,000.
The couple forked out over US$100k ahead of their big day.
Murata, breaking down the budget, said she paid US$4,500 for the gown, US$800 for décor and US$7,500 for the rings.
She vented in a live Facebook video post days after news of a turmoil over monetary issues went viral last week.
A fellow socialite Tatenda Karigambe, better known as Tatelicious, had set social media ablaze with a leaked audio recording in which Murata insulted a relative for kicking her out a family WhatsApp group.
The skit-maker fears her husband could be dating a friend’s daughter only identified as Panashe.
Shockingly, her husband, after blessing Mai Titi with a new house on her birthday, went on to give the keys to the controversial lady.
Panashe is now blocking every effort for Murata to take occupation or possession of the new house, in an eyebrow-raising situation.
Murata has vowed to fight for what is hers.
It has also emerged that she used personal funds for the lavish wedding.
Her husband had promised to settle the bills and debts but has made a U-turn on his promises and, according to Murata, each time she raises the subject, she gets threatened and blackmailed.
Sad as the situation is, no one believes her side of the story to an extent that even her parents regard her as the bad person.
“I’m suffering because no one is standing with me, my own parents have been manipulated by my husband who is known as a preacher,” said Murata.
She said even her husband’s relatives do not respect her.
“They have been given the power to insult me anyhow,” she said.
“I’m not at peace but if you see him preaching you will never know he is such a person. Ndaneta, I’m tired.. you have never seen this guy, angry, fuming. He would appear like a possessed person,” she said.
Murata also claimed that Maphosa was abusive.
“In the first place I didn’t even love him otherwise I had issues to solve. When I was in the UK I had no peace. The police once came to his house after he assaulted me but I covered for him and lied to the police yet he had assaulted me the previous night.
“I’m suffering; I am in pain. I will lose nothing by leaving him but I’m worried about the money he borrowed. He doesn’t want peace, he wants a war. People don’t know the animal in this man.
“I will talk, I’m only waiting for something. I’m just hurt why people come into my life to hurt me and lie to me. I try to be nice but people treat me badly only to play victim just because I am too vocal, ”she said.
Commenting about the monetary turmoil Murata said her husband had no money for their wedding although he was the one who had insisted that they wed.
“He would contribute money but could not afford exorbitant bills. I would settle those by myself, for example he wanted a helicopter for our wedding but could not afford. I paid for the helicopter myself,” she said.
She said she had put about US$50 000 aside for her house which she was building but diverted the money for their wedding.
Maphosa promised to pay back but never did.
“I took all the savings for my house because we wanted a beautiful wedding. When he came for the wedding he started stitching up stories that his debit card was not working, that his funds were not ready.
“He asked me to borrow. I had my reservations but I had no option. I have properties and I knew my property would be attached. Then I asked for money from our aunty and another friend.
“When he went back he blocked the people we borrowed the money from. He kept on giving empty promises.
“There are times he would send money, I didn’t use the money, I used it to settle the part of the debts,” she said.

Latest On Fraudulent Allocation Of Land By Harare City Council Boss

Own Correspondent

From the 14th of March ZimEye.com published articles on rot and corruption at Harare City Council.

One Rita Chipo Barbara Mugocha (45), the Principal Town Planner was swindling unsuspecting residents of thousands of dollars through her loverboy and “Ben10” Kudzai Elton Mawondo(33).

ZimEye.com received audios and chats of their schemes. Mugocha had also started harrassing and victimizing some of the witnesses who had evidence against her.

This was evidenced by how she then rushed to apply for a peace order against a certain woman making allegations against her.

Mugocha claims she is being targeted by people who nurse grudges against her.

Mugocha claimed her offices were searched in her absence but how is that possible at Cleveland House a council building guarded by municipal police and who in right senses would leave an office door open, not locked at a public building?

Sources at Cleveland House say Mugocha’s office has tight security settings.

Another media house took the story and portrayed her a victim as she declared in court before Magistrate Sharon Mashavire that Council had conducted investigations and nothing was found.

However, sources at Harare Municipal Workshop have revealed investigations are already underway under an officer named Mr Zihumo.

A source at the city council argued:
“So why did Mugocha lie before a magistrate if for a fact she did not know someone was protecting her at the top in council?”

“Mugocha never made a report to ZRP or Council Police for the alledged abuse which later proved to us all this she had done rushing to civil court was trying to intimidate a witness wanting the matter to be swept under the carpet,” added the source at Harare City Council.

As all this was raging on, Mugocha for the past 7 years has been in an illicit affair with Kudzai Elton Mawondo while legally married.

According to court documents, her marriage was only terminated on the 2nd Of June after she filed for divorce which was uncontested on the 30th of March.

Not only is Mugocha corrupt but for the past years she was a despicable cheating wife.

As she bellowed and declared in court how she was being abused in the background she was now trying to cover her tracks of infidelity and just being an unscrupulous women with no dignity in her.

Close sources say Mawondo from the age of 25, was already a live- in boyfriend of Mugocha who constantly assaulted him over infidelity.

At some point, neighbours vividly explained how Mawondo was beaten up and had flour poured on him with his clothes thrown outside as he was kicked out of Mugocha’s Hatfield house .

An elderly woman showed concern and wondered if Mawondo had no family.

The neighbours also mentioned how Mugocha constructed a perimeter wall and put up a big gate .The neighbours also believe the allegations are true.

On the settlement she then mentions Stand No. 548 Amsterdam Township , Southley Park, Harare that she states is hers and should be put in her 3 kids names in equal shares and states the husband should be awarded usufruct until she remarries or dies.

Usufruct meaning the right to use and enjoy the use of one’s property short of destruction.

Though at the same time Mugocha stays at 49 Scott Road Hatfield which is her house that she built and completed.Somehow she chose not to mention that property in her divorce application nor did she use her personal address as it is clear she wanted it concealed from the world.

Commiting perjury before Judge Tsanga who presided over the matter as the house and stand at 49 Scott Road Hatfield was purchased and built during the course of her marriage.

On then speaking to one of the witnesses further information was relayed to us.How there is also talk of another stand in Waterfalls at Stoneridge in her name which the witness did not deny or brush off as Mugocha’s Ben10 is famous for approaching young girls and lying to them wasting their time pretending to be an eligible bachelor who stays in a one bedroom flat in Waterfalls yet he stays with Mugocha in Hatfield where he is looked after as he has no job or source of income except stealing from citizens caught unaware promising them land.

So how does a Council employee with a council salary get to build 2 to 3 houses in her name and still be labelled clean? 49 Scott Road Hatfield and 548 Amsterdam Townships Southley Park are both in her name and properties developed by Mugocha. Is it not now clear that some people are now protecting her as clearly they have deals that they could have done together and it’s now difficult to put Mugocha in line as she will not go down alone?

How is her wealth amassed explained yet she is fulltime employee at Council and no side occupations?

It is very clear Rita Chipo Barbara Mugocha nee Mbanga has a number of properties in her name that are being occupied by relatives or persons of interest.

“We have written to council for an explanation and we hope we will be responded to as it has been revealed everyone investigating or going after Barbara Mugocha is either suspended or victimized at council. We hope the docket will see the light of day in court and not just being swept under the carpet,” a representative of a residents’ forum said on Wednesday.

By putting the Southlea stand in her kids names she is trying to cover up so that when stands in her name are traced they will not find anything .

Sundowns Offload Lunga?

Divine Lunga has rejoined Golden Arrows on a season-long loan deal from Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Zimbabwean left-back has left the Pretoria-based club a year after his transfer from Arrows.

The loan move comes after the player struggled for game time in his first year at Sundowns.

Lunga failed to break into the first XI, making just six starts in the league.

The number of foreigners in the Sundowns squad following the arrival of Chilean midfielder Marcelo Allende, Ethiopia forward Abubeker Nassir and Moroccan centre-back Abdelmounaim Boutouil also worsened the situation.

The bloated foreign quota could not guarantee the Zimbabwean to be registered for next season, leading to his release.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

“Prophet” Introduces New Love Potion From Ghana

It is believed the charm entices a man to do whatever a lady wants.

The preacher also said his latest love potion would be distributed for free and his target” is to make every man to bow down before his wife.”

For the past three years different people have been testifying about Makomichi’s love and lcharms.

Matron Posts P*rn On Parents Group

By- A Matron at St Anne’s Goto Mission High School in Wedza is under fire after posting pornographic material in a parents’ WhatsApp group.

The group is meant to share issues concerning the school and the welfare of students.

Rambisai Nguruve shared pornographic content twice before pleading for forgiveness.

However, her pleas fell on deaf ears as parents lambasted her for her unacceptable conduct.

The parents were not happy with her behaviour, especially coming hard on the heels of the school making unwelcome headlines for the alleged abuse of female students by the chaplain.

The chaplain was accused of allegedly forcing girls to lift their skirts, for him to see whether they were not wearing skin tights.

Efforts to get a comment from the matron were fruitless.
The person who was answering the phone claimed to be her sister.

“Varidzi vephone vabuda, mirai vadzoke. She is my sister,” said the woman.
However, Nguruve apologised in the WhatsApp group.
“Sorry vebereki, phone yabatwa nevana veschool vandapa, sorry vabereki.
“Yanga ine vana veschool sorry vabereki.
“Vana vabereki, sorry inga ndikukumbira ruregerero.
“Sorry mubereki vana vandapa.
“Mhepo zvadzinoita dzinotungamira pamunenge usingade deadly hazard.
“Inga ndikuti sorry handina kuziva kuti vanga vachitambisa phone ndavasiyira, sorry vabereki.
“Ndaibvisa varipo ndofunga vaiona sorry coz vanga vakandiunganira, sorry.
“Vana vacho vabva vaita delete for me saka harichaita manje ndokumbirawo muite delete vabekeri,” she wrote.
But a fuming parent had no kind words for the matron.
“Parents, whether you support me or not, I do not care.
“Seeing what is happening at Goto is unacceptable, let’s help each other, don’t witness things such as these.
“If a woman can keep such material in her phone, and give the phone to children, what does it mean, we don’t like this.
“We don’t want our kids to copy such behaviour.
“Let the leaders lead by example. “Why would she keep such content, don’t support things which are wrong?
“Our wives are watching such content, what’s she sorry about? This is bad,” he said.

Corruption Killing Economy- President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri| CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa has dismissed Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube’s Mid Term Budget Review.

In a statement released on Wednesday, President Chamisa challenged the regime to focus on real issues affecting citizens.

Below is President Chamisa’s full statement:

The recent MID TERM BUDGET review confirms that Zimbabwe is in a serious leadership crisis and citizens are exposed to extreme poverty and suffering. I say this for the following reasons:

At a time where inflation has reached 257% in July and people in extreme poverty are 7.9 million (49%), the budget disbursements to social is extremely low, e.g., ministry health has been given 27% of the budget by June instead of a min of 50%.

When the consumer basket for a family of 5 has topped ZWL$140K, government raises salary of the lowest paid civil servants to $35K (excluding the US$175) and raise the tax free threshold to $50K, both of which are far below the consumer basket & poverty datum line;

There is just unrestrained indiscipline in gvt upon rampant galloping corruption.

The condonation of ZWL$ 107 billion for 2020 & 2019 fiscal years is testimony to this. The gvt has created distortions in the foreign currency markets &now gold coins, the havens for corruption.

We face a major economic collapse and prospects of the bleakest Christmas season this year. USD:RTGS is now at 1:approx 800. The leadership failure is dramatic, gigantic and encyclopedic.

The following must be done immediately :

a)Dollarisation which will immediately eliminate distortions, forward pricing and multiple pricing;

b)Restoration of the US$540 as a starting salary;
Holistic tax reform. Reduce the tax burden on citizens and the business in general. As part of the tax reforms, we will remove the 2% tax and streamline taxes;

Remove distortions esp in the agricultural sector and construction sectors which has created a casino economy.

The elimination of the Currency Auction and reforming the RBZ through limiting the power of the central bank. Separating the roles of central banking and financial services supervision.

Reforming the budgetary process, so that the budget comes from parliament and not from ministry of Finance. The budget must come from the Citizens -a Citizens-centered budget.

Radically dealing with the corruption pandemic and instituting special mechanisms to eliminate and punish the corrupt.

Holding credible, free and fair elections preceded by a comprehensive pact on electoral reforms.

Only a leadership change will rescue our beautiful country and in no time turn and transform this Zimbabwe from ruins to greatness. We are new leaders. #RegisterToVoteZW

Govt: No Hurry To Remove Masks

Govt says it is in “no hurry” to relax mandatory wearing of face masks despite a decline in new COVID-19 infections in the country.

Monica Mutsvangwa

On Tuesday, Information and Publicity minister Monica Mutsvangwa told a post-Cabinet media briefing that the average new infections stood at 16 per day in the past week, with no COVID-19 cases recorded in schools.

“The overall number of new COVID-19 cases continued to decrease, with 112 cases having been recorded, compared to the 133 recorded the previous week, marking a 16% decline,” Mutsvangwa said.

“Cabinet reports that a total of 17 new admissions were recorded during the week compared to 13 the previous week. No patients were admitted in the intensive care unit. This indicates that the COVID-19 pandemic remains under control.”

Government introduced mandatory wearing of face masks in May 2020 at the height of the first wave of the pandemic.

Regional countries like Botswana and South Africa have since lifted the mandatory wearing of face masks.

National COVID-19 taskforce chief co-ordinator Agnes Mahomva said government was closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation.

“Yes, the numbers are going down and we are so proud as a country that we are doing exceptionally well than other counties in the region and even globally,” she told NewsDay.

“Despite various challenges, we remained focused. This is one of the main reasons why we will not to be so quick to relax some of the measures to protect people. We are just coming out of winter, but we are keeping our eye on it to see that we are completely out of it before we review and decide what we need to do with face masks. We are giving it a few weeks.”

She said with schools closing this week, there was no hurry to remove the face mask mandate as the country was still in the winter season where respiratory infections are common.

“Law enforcement agents are still enforcing proper wearing of masks, as long as we are recording cases of COVID-19, masks are necessary. It is not about what other countries are doing — South Africa, United Kingdom or America — it is about what we are seeing on the ground,” she said. -Newsday

Mpofu Nearly Duped USD2,700

Police have arrested two men who allegedly tried to swindle Zanu-PF Secretary for Administration, Dr Obert Mpofu, of US$2 700.

One of the suspects approached Dr Mpofu on Monday claiming that he was Croco Motors’ chief executive officer Dr Moses Chingwena and wanted to donate an assortment of farm equipment but needed US$1 700 to pick up the implements in Polokwane, South Africa.

Later, he demanded US$2 700.

According to a witness who is an aide to Dr Mpofu, the suspect, Phillip Nenyamani phoned Dr Mpofu’s personal assistant, Mrs Vimbai Shumba, and introduced himself as Dr Chingwena of Croco Motors.

He said he wanted to give Dr Mpofu farm implements which included tractors and combine harvesters but the equipment was in Polokwane.

Mrs Shumba phoned her boss to inform him about the development and Dr Mpofu immediately phoned Dr Chingwena to thank him for his “kindness,” only for Dr Chingwena to express ignorance about the donation.

“He, in fact, warned Dr Mpofu to be careful as he had previously heard that there were conmen who were going around using his name to claim that they could deliver farm implements and all they needed was money for transport,” said Mr Mthabisi Mthimkhulu, Dr Mpofu’s aide who witnessed the dramatic arrest of Nenyamani.

Mr Mthimkhulu said Dr Mpofu informed the police who set a trap.

He informed Nenyamani to come to his offices at York House in the city centre to collect the money.

“It did not take long for him to come to the offices where detectives were already on site.

Upon arrival he changed his story and said he now needed US$2 700 which he was given and acknowledged by appending his signature as proof of payment.

“The moment he put the money in his pockets, an arrest was effected and during interrogation he said he was sent by one Fungai Chinobva who has offices at Bradfield Shopping Mall,” said Mr Mthimkhulu.

Police raided the offices, arrested Chinobva and seized some documents and laptops.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed receiving a report but said more details will be released today. –Herald

What Is The Role Of Our Wills?

Sabbath School Summary

By Elder Dr Masimba Mavaza

Struggling With All Energy

Lesson 6
Memory Text: “To this end I strenuously contend, struggling with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me” (Colossians 1:29, NIV).

INTRODUCTION
The Week at a Glance: What is the role of our wills, and willpower, in the battle with self and sin? How can we avoid the mistake of letting our feelings rule the decisions we make? Why must we persevere and not give up when in the crucible?

Am an and woman sat together on a talk show. Both had expe-rienced the murder of a child. The woman’s son had been murdered 20 years before, and her anger and bitterness were as great as ever. The man was totally different. His daughter had been murdered by terrorists a few years earlier. He spoke about forgiveness toward the killers and about how God had transformed his hurt. However terrible the pain, this man had become an illustration of how God can bring healing to the darkest moments of our lives.

How can two people respond so differently? How does spiritual change occur in the life of a Christian, enabling that individual to mature through life’s crucibles rather than being completely overwhelmed by them?
SABBATH: Not everyone hurts the same way? A man & a woman on a talk show all had a child murdered. The woman’s son was murdered 20 years ago & the daughter of the man was murdered by terrorists a few years earlier. The woman was bitter & angry while the man spoke of forgiveness & how God healed him from hurt. The same pain but different reactions. How? God can help us mature in life’s crucibles.

SUNDAY: Every man that comes to Christ will find that Christ is able to save him. But why do our lives remain the same even when we’ve prayed to God to transform us? A reason is that although God’s Spirit has unlimited power to transform us, we can restrict what God can do. He knocks & we’re to open. We have free will (John 16:5-15). God told Adam & Eve the truth about the “tree” but did not force them.

MONDAY: “Rome was not built in a day.” They were laying bricks every hour. Likely, your great feats in life did not happen while you idled in bed. So is our walk with Christ. To be a great disciple of Christ, you have to labor together with God (Col. 1:28, 29). We cannot build ourselves. God bestows His gift & we use it. Paul worked with God to a point of exhaustion (Deut. 4:4, Luke 13:24, 1 Cor. 9:25, Heb. 12:4).

TUESDAY: Some crucibles in life are self-inflicted. Our five senses were given by God for His glory. If left undisciplined, our feelings can lie to us (Jer. 17:9), create a false image of what’s real, & lead us to make bad choices which land us in crucibles of our own making (Gen. 3:6; 2 Sam. 11:2-4; Gal. 2:11, 12). We’re to go through life with faith & not feeling. Thus, we must give God our minds (1 Pet. 1:13).

WEDNESDAY: God desires radical disciples, radical commitment, & a radical faith (Matt. 5:29, 30). In a sin-sick world where we can easily drift away from God, we’re to take conscious steps to avoid sin. The little sins are what grow into giants & led us astray. Small steps in sin takes us far away from God. Often, we sin in our hearts first before we act. Jesus calls us to control our minds & hearts no matter the cost.

THURSDAY: Jacob is an epitome of perseverance (Gen. 32, 27, & 28). He never gave up on claiming his blessings in life amid the perils of life. He had tricked his brother & father & was on the run for his life. He was scared that he’d not gain God’s blessings even after he saw God’s glory in the form of a ladder. As he “fought” Jesus & had his hip dislocated, he chose to hang on till he was blessed (Gen. 32:26).

FRIDAY: Satan can strongly have an influence on our will because of the sin that led to the Fall. We lost our dominion to Satan & he ever since exercise control over our will. Man must see his need for help & the truth that his help only comes from God. By prayer, efforts, & a transformed mind, God will be able to change us to do His will. Only by determined efforts can we avoid sin. God won’t do what we can do.

—Ellen G. White, “The Night of Wrestling,” pp. 195–203, in Patriarchs and Prophets; “Consecration,” pp. 43–48, in Steps to Christ & Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 248.

Keywords

Free Will & The Great Controversy- If God did compel us in even the slightest way, we would lose our free will, and Satan would accuse God of manipulating our minds and hearts and would thus be able to accuse God of cheating in the great controversy.

Human & Divine Effort- God will not do what man can do. He bestows us with His gift/power and we’re to use it. He knocks our hearts & we’re to open. He opens the door of repentance & we’re to enter. We need to work with God for His power to enter in and transform us. God won’t act differently today as He was with Adam & Eve. He shows us the way & we’re to walk on it.

Christian Misconception- Some people falsely believe that if you just believe, the Holy Spirit will fall upon you with amazing supernatural power and perform great miracles. But this is a dangerous half-truth. We need to work with God & not sit & wait for miracles.

Jacob’s scar- His dislocated hip to outside appearances it was a weakness, but for Jacob it was an indication of his strength.

Discussion Questions

? To what extent do you think that we actually recognize that our wills were “at the Fall given into the control of Satan”? How, by focusing on the character of Jesus, can we better understand just how fallen we are and how great God’s grace is toward us?

? Read the story of Jesus in Gethsemane (Matt. 26:36–42). What were Jesus’ own feelings and desires, as opposed to God’s will? What can we learn from this example?

? As a class, talk about the distinct things in your own culture that can work to break down our defenses and leave us more vulnerable to Satan’s attacks. What can we do to help other church members be aware of these dangers, as well as help those who feel the need for help?

? Do you know someone in your church who hasn’t been there for quite a long time, who might be getting ready to give up or already has given up? What can you do as a group to encourage this person, to help him or her not turn away from Jesus? What practical things can you do to help?
